He’s completely zonked out. Poor guy. He was so determined to make it to midnight. Well, he got to see midnight… in london. Which was genius on your part. But wiley really wanted to stay up and ring in the new year here in port charles. Well, there’s always next year. Why did you want to come here for dessert instead of staying at the restaurant? Because nothing on their menu looked as good to me as an ice cream sundae. And I hope that doesn’t disappoint you. Nothing with you ever disappoints me. I’m just glad it’s just the two of us. Yeah. Then maybe we can wake up the baby, and all four of us can ring in the new year together. Because nothing says “happy new year” like a screaming baby. Well, maybe our daughter will be a night owl, and she’ll like staying up at midnight. Then you can be the one to get her back to sleep. Okay. You have my solemn promise. Well, a lot of it has to do with when I found ava after she had been stabbed. And I just felt so helpless. I just didn’t know what to do to help her. And then I realized that I can learn what to do. So I decided to submit my application to switch my major to pre-med. Wow. That is amazing. You’re going to be an incredible doctor. Good for you for going through something terrible and finding a positive way to take action. Thank you. And, god, I hope the police find esme and locks her up and throws away the key. Yeah. Look, I want to catch the hook killer, too, but we don’t know that it’s esme for sure. And we both know what happens when we jump to conclusions, right? What am I missing? Where is she? Here’s the list of stuff that esme is gonna need in the coming weeks. I’ll take care of it. And i will take care of her. I really appreciate all you’re doing. I’m not doing this for you.

[ Doorbell rings ] Mother. Happy new year. It’s not a good time. I’m sorry to hear that.

[ Footsteps approaching ] Spencer, sorry. Were you waiting long? Definitely worth the wait. You look beautiful. Thanks. You, too. Well, you know.

[ Laughs ] By the way. I know that was your contribution. You know it. What’s a party without hunky, half-nude servers, huh? Yes. [ Laughs ] And, maxie, everything looks gorgeous and stunning. [ Chuckles ] What possessed you to do that? He said that he had some information about our family, and, well, I guess it just got me to wondering what else I don’t know. About cyrus? About you. You told me that you betrayed all the people you loved the most. Can you tell me exactly what you meant by that? You care so much for this baby, and yet you won’t do a thing to help me, even though you know I didn’t hurt anyone. Maybe you didn’t kill anyone, but you’ve hurt a lot of people, my son included. Oh. So this is revenge, after all. It’s not. The way I see it, you have two options — you can either stay in this tower, or you can face prosecution for the slew of crimes you’ll be charged with if I turn you in. Well, there is a third option. Set me free so I can leave town and raise my baby. And why would I do that? It wasn’t that long ago that you threatened a hunger strike and refused to take your prenatal vitamins. Because I’m desperate. Can’t you see that? Elizabeth, I swear I will take care of this baby, but I-I need to be free so we can be safe. On the run, no family or resources, constantly looking over your shoulder — how is that any safer than a roof over your head, nutritious meals, and consistent care? Because I won’t have to live with the fear that nikolas will kill me as soon as I give birth.

Go just now? Oh, no, don’t pay any attention to me. Hey. What are you — it’s a celebration, and I refuse to be a buzzkill. You can tell me anything, you know that. Where’d you go? It’s — oh, my god.

[ Laughs ] What? Just thinking about my — I was thinking about my brother, I was thinking about nelle, and how I don’t get to see wiley anymore. And my family is very small, and the thought of losing britt maybe in a few years is… just… I get it. I lost my dad. I lost brando. Now I can’t see michael. I can’t see wiley. And now michael is going to have another child, and what now? Yeah. Am I gonna be able to see that child? Probably not, right? Well, you have to pay a really big price, having me in your life, don’t you?

The last thing I expected when I flew over there was to fall on my sword so anna devane could get away.

[ Laughs ] Well, you know, I think you’re pretty lucky that the wsb let you get away with just a fine. Yeah. Something fishy about that. In any case, for all the good it’s done me — from one prison to another.

[ Sighs ] Well, at least you’re not behind bars in this one. Yeah. You know, you didn’t have to come. Oh, come on. And to answer your remaining question, I am flying out tonight, right after the party. Why is this the first I’ve heard of this vacation? It was a spur of the moment idea. I got a good deal. It’s obvious from the way he was able to meet with spencer in the prison library. We also know that victor never gets his own hands dirty. One of his agents did the actual work to get spencer’s release. So… and this agent also works for you. I’m sorry to tell you, dear sister, that you have a mole in the mayor’s office. You mean along with the snake? I feel it’s my duty, as your brother, to warn you that your deputy mayor, eileen ashby, is working for victor. The research I was doing was for the wsb. I only later discovered it was corrupted by the cassadines. Specifically victor and helena. Yes, as well as your old nemesis, liesl obrecht. Yeah, well, there’s not many, but there was a photojournalist who was trying to do a whole story and got shut out, but managed to get a photo of josiah, the commune leader. So I had brian do a whole background check on all the josiahs in the tri-state area that matched around the same age. And unfortunately, there’s no evidence that any of them were part of the commune. So our best bet is to take their photographs and compare it with the one that we have of josiah. And see if any match. Yeah, I mean, that’s our best bet of finding this guy and seeing what he knows about willow’s birth. Mommy, are we going sledding? Not today, sweetie. But you promised. We will go sledding another day. Okay? It’s just, daddy and I have to go to the doctor right now. You’re always at the doctor. Hey, wiley, how’s this? I will take you sledding when mommy and I get back. Okay? But I want mommy to come, too. I know. I know you do, wiley.

I already did a search on babies and pregnant women that went missing in the tri-state area, and I got nothing there. I-I don’t understand. How does a child disappear without any record of it?

Britt, I know people say this all the time, but it’s true — if I could go back, I would, becau– the more time I spent with you, the more I started enjoying it, the more I started enjoying you. Who wouldn’t? You’re incredible, britt. There’s no excuse for my actions. No, there isn’T. But I did start to develop real feelings for you. So no pressure there.

[ Baby coos ] Why do you always do that? Do what? Someone tries to give you a compliment or pat you on the back, and your first response is that you don’t deserve it. Well, that’s easy. Because I don’T. Okay, so what we’re talking about here is a state-of-the-art diagnostic tool that’s been recently federally approved. And its ability to locate cancer cells and other potentially life-threatening illnesses is so cool. I-it’s remarkable. Sounds great, but I’m gonna beat britt to the punch and ask how much. [ Speaks indistinctly ] Sorry. As someone who’s been falsely accused myself many times over the years, I always root for the underdog. The conditions weren’t ideal, but I know you’re an experienced ob trained for anything, right? No, no, no amount of training prepared me for how I felt. Here at the hospital when you have a breech baby, we usually opt for a c-section. At the quartermaines’, I had to deliver the baby breech. Do you have any idea all the things that could have gone wrong? After I delivered that little girl and I put her in her mother’s arms, it was the first time ever I realized life is a miracle and it should never be taken for granted. What? Suddenly you’re agreeable. Then you start talking about miracles. Were you visited by three ghosts last night, showing you how your life might turn out? Okay, chosen family, if you know britt so well, tell me why this party is so important to her. I’m not sure. There are some things even drinking buddies don’t share. But britt did mention to me that she wanted to be remembered as more than the woman who wound up getting knocked into the metro court pool when cody parachuted into town. Remembered? Is she planning on leaving port charles? Nah, I think it has to do more with her birthday and the reminder she’s not getting any younger and she just wants to make the most of every second. Hmm. [ Sighs ] Okay. Deejay, for sure. You know, I actually know this guy from the foam party circuit who’s a genius and totally ripped and… wait. Do not even go there. That’s the theme. Foam party! You know, it’s too bad you didn’t turn out to be mine, because if you were, I would have talked some sense into you a long time ago. So you’re a fan of tough love or something? I don’t know a lot about your past, but it’s clear to me that you’ve been burned before and you’re letting that define who you are today. Because honestly, all love is tough, and a lot of people fail at it. The trick is to get back on that horse. Am I right? A skintight white suit and some platform heels? You had me at skintight. Now, maybe you were just joking, but that actually sounds like a lot of fun and super hot. I mean, you would look fantastic in glitter eye shadow and farrah fawcett hair. That will never happen. Okay, okay, both of you. Time-out. This party is supposed to bring people together, not launch a twitter war. I asked you both to help me plan this. So it’s time to forget your differences and work side by side as friends.

[ Inhales deeply ] I had my eye on the prize, so to speak. And you used her to get to that prize? You put it that way, I sound like a real horse’s ass. No, you sound like that kid with a chip on his shoulder that I knew back at camp.

[ Sighs ]

[ Baby crying ] Our lives sure have gone in different directions, though, huh? I mean, you’re a police detective in a healthy relationship with sam, a bunch of kids between you. I’m still chasing after shiny objects instead of what really matters. Like a little baby britta noelle. Y-you know, for a minute there on christmas day, britt and I put our egos and agendas aside, focused on something that was higher and better than both of us. And to be honest, we made a damn good team, too. Well, hey, I mean, you did it once. What’s to say you can’t do it again? Maybe you and britt have a chance. You might even go into 2023 on a high note. I get it. The two of you may never become friends. But one day, you’ll look back on my party and I hope you’ll remember how much it meant to me that you were both there. That the two of you helped me make it happen. And if you can work together to create one magical night, then maybe you can look out for each other when I’m not around. Why? Where are you going? Yeah, you going somewhere?

Since you blackmailed georgie’s father. Spencer: Hey, I, uh, I brought presents. Oh, goody. Something extravagant, I hope. Um… although I know molly’s about to say it’s the thought that counts. Because it is. Dante: Hey, let us, uh, take these. Oh, thanks, but I don’t — -yes, you do. -Okay. Sam: The kids are upstairs making videos for their social media. Whatever you do, do not engage. And yes [Sniffles] I’m sad… and scared, but being here with all of you, I know I’m lucky, too.

No matter what, we should know where we stand going into the holidays, right? And where do you think that is? I don’t know. I don’t know where you’re at. For me, I know I messed up. I was trying to hold on to you, but I think I might have driven a wedge between us. The wedge was already there, and I think you know that. I didn’t know we were doing presents tonight. Uh, well, we let the kids open one present each. Oh. I was starting to think that we weren’t going to see you before the show at rice plaza tonight. Well, I have a couple minutes before I have to go. Nothing’s more important than family at christmas, right? What? Yes, family is important. But so are other loved ones. Like… leo: Brook lynn! Yeah? Where’s chase? I want to show him my book. He’s, um, with family at the moment. I’m gonna go read my book. Bye. Uh, is — is — is chase coming to get you here, or are you going to meet up at the show? Chase isn’t coming. Not here. Not rice plaza. Nowhere that I am. Look at us, all together on christmas. There was a time I thought I’d never spend the holidays with my sons, much less my beautiful granddaughter. We’ve come so far. I-I’m sorry. I’m not really in the holiday spirit. Maybe I should just go.

[ Sighs ] Now that you’re not performing tonight, you’re free to spend time with your family. Brook lynn completely screwed me over, okay? Look, I’m so sorry, bro. What brook lynn did was wrong. It was beyond wrong. She cost me my badge when she took it on herself to make decisions about my life. You know, the more I think about it, I’m so happy that I backed out of the gingerbread jam. Not to mention, I get bonus time with wiley. Yeah, and who can resist that? Ah. Do you think willow’s okay? She’s really pale, and she seems to be having a really hard time with this pregnancy. Yeah, unfortunately, I think finding out that her birth mother was dead really added on the stress. But now that we know denise was lying, I am not gonna stop until I find her birth parents. Or at least find out what happened to them. You are a man on a mission, aren’t you? We got to tell her. We got to tell her that there’s still hope that her family’s out there. I think that would be a really big mistake. Why? Hey, thanks for helping me out. Of course.

I just think you should wait until you have all the facts before you hit willow with more bad news. Like the suspicion that harmony stole willow from her birth parents? Yeah. I mean, let willow enjoy christmas before you put all that on her. Will my little sister be here next christmas? Oh, she sure will. Will we open presents together? I want to have a life outside of my family, to stay away from my father and even uncle victor. But I can’t find a permanent way out. So I need you to tell me.

[ Sighs ] I was supposed to be with rory’s family tonight. I told him I’d go… before… I was on my way to tell rory that I didn’t love him.

[ Voice breaking ] All because I can’t shake my feelings for spencer. And he might have broken up with me. But I’ll never know. Rory is gone, and he’d still be here if he’d never met me.

we’ve all been workingreally hard to help trina, and she is absolutely our number-one priority. But, portia, honey, this is our first christmas as an engaged couple in our home. Mm-hmm. The only person responsible for this is the monster who killed rory. You’re right. I know you’re saying it, but I don’t think you mean it. Listen, it’s human nature. When things get really, really bad, we try to make sense of them, and we’re willing to accept answers from anywhere, even if that means believing the worst about ourselves. And you think that’s what I’m doing? It is what you’re doing.

[ Sobs ] And blaming yourself… it’s only gonna hold you back. And rory would not want that for you. Rory would want you to keep moving forward. Come here. Look, I appreciate you owning what you did. That proves to me that you can still be a good man… which is why I was drawn to you in the first place. Well, uh… helping a woman deliver a baby in the woods when she’s being chased by a crazy nurse… make anyone look like a hero. But, see [Sighs] That’s where the root of our problem is. When I met you, I was trying to save my own life, trying to save my daughter’s life, and trying to survive the most traumatic relationship I had ever been in. And there you were, like a guardian angel. We went through something huge together, and we became really important to each other really fast. So fast that I think lines were blurred. Trauma bonding is a real thing. And…

[ Sighs ] You know, fate brought us together, but… but we’re not meant to be. Um… we — we need to tell willow that there’s still a chance that her birth parents are out there. She clearly needs some hope. Well, it’s not particularly hopeful to hear that you’ve been taken from your family. I mean, when you’re pregnant, your hormones just compound everything. And that’s what’s going on with willow. Hey, there’s nothing to worry about. Broo k lynn: I got so caught upin what I wanted, I convinced myself it’s what chase wanted, too. Now chase is gone, and I… I have to live with that. What are you gonna do about the show tonight? You’ll be in breach of contract if you don’t show up with an act. Then I’ll just have to get a different act. Dad, you. You can take chase’s place.

[ Laughs ] Oh. Hey. That’s your color. Really? Okay. I’m gonna take your word for it. Can we do the advent calendar? You bet. Why isn’t there one for the christmas day? Who needs chase when I’ve got eddie maine? Brook lynn. What linc and blaze signed up for and what the rice plaza bookers agreed to was a performance by two up-and-comers. You can’t just change the terms at the last minute. Well, this is an emergency. They won’t see it that way. Now, look, if there’s no way you’re gonna get chase to do this, you need to be honest with the people that you made an agreement with. Tell them I can’t deliver. Unfortunately — dare I say it? Mm, please don’T. You have to face the music. Look, carly, I… I-I still don’t feel good keeping this from her. All we have is a theory, and an extremely disturbing one at that. Okay. Okay. [ “God rest ye merry, gentlemen” plays ] I’m gonna take this to my room. You’re doing a good job hiding your pain from violet. Wasn’t so sure if what you told me the other day. Your performance has improved. Thanks? I’m not trying to pry. I know there are elements of your breakup you don’t want to discuss, but… violet loves her aunt elizabeth. I know, I know. And no matter what happens between us, elizabeth will always be a part of violet’s life. I’m proud of you for not leaning into despair when it would be so easy to. Well, you know, I’ve had a lot of practice. You know, I think I finally learned my lesson this time, dad. You know, I’m not cut out for love or relationships. I… as much as I try, some sort of tragedy follows me everywhere. I know you’ve experienced your share of darkness. We’ve had our share of darkness as a family, as well. But it would be a mistake to ignore all the joy we’ve had, too. Is this the part of the conversation where you say, “everything happens for a reason”?

[ Laughs ] I wouldn’t dream of being so cliché. Mm. But the journey you’ve been on has put you on the path that brought violet into your life. Would you change that? Of course not. Not — not for a minute. So maybe don’t throw in the towel yet. Sorry about that. Listen, the ccrb is gonna revisit your reinstatement. They’re gonna take another look at your case at the next meeting in the spring. That’s great! Fantastic. Yeah. It was supposed to be a done deal. Yeah, it was, but I don’t know. [ Sighs ] You don’t get drawn in by our family. You’re not dependent on us. You don’t get sucked into the drama and the scheming and the treachery. We’re still connected to them. I-I fully expected victor to walk through that door and refer to this gathering as it were some, like, “little soiree,” while he’s lecturing us about family. Right. You can’t escape being a cassadine, spencer, but you can survive it. Okay. How? The girls and I, we have our own lives, right? Because I insisted on that. They insisted on that. And that wasn’t easy, but it just looks easy on nights like this. And, yes, victor has a special interest in you, and I am advising you to be very cautious about that. And if you have questions that he can’t answer, you ask me instead. Mm. Because this band of psychopathic murdering megalomaniacs are ours. They’re our family, and they always will be. So basically, I’m doomed, like a brontosaurus in a tar pit then.

[ Sighs ] This place that you live in is always gonna take space up in your head. But the key is to just accept that. And if you do that, it’ll just be easier to forge your own path. Is that how you do it? Is that how you’re able to always rise above the insanity that is our own family? Because that is all I want to do. I remember that genetics don’t dictate your actions. You’re your own person. And you can never not be a cassadine, but you can ground yourself in other things. Such as? Find out what makes you feel alive. You. Spencer. Not spencer cassadine. Does that make sense? I’m not sure. I want it to. Find out what makes you happy, figure out what that is, and then hang on to that, and let that be your guide. And I promise you, this is not gonna last forever. At some point, you will be able to ignore their attempts to pull you in, and you will just follow your own heart.

Well, I, too, am beginning to realize that there is more to life than work. I have organized a charity clothing drive to benefit struggling lgbtq+ youth. -You organized that? -Yeah. It starts tomorrow. I realized that helping other people gives my life purpose. And I never would have realized how much I needed that if I didn’t have a job that allows me the time to explore it. It seems like you’ve all found the things that make you feel alive. Oh, well, yeah, that’s a lovely way of putting it, spencer. I guess we’re lucky that way. Merry christmas, everybody. [ Chuckles ] Honey, this is such a lovely idea. You’re so thoughtful. Rory holds a special place in my heart, and it’s important for me to keep his memory alive, even while I move forward. Oh. It just needs one final touch.

[ Laughs ] I know it’s corny. No. But the day we met, the police had been questioning me for a while, and he brought me a soda. Then when I was exonerated, he brought me another one. And because I’m ridiculous, I saved the tab. You are not ridiculous in any way, shape, or form. You know what that is, sweetheart? That’s perfect. Okay. I need to go. -This is darth vader. -It is?
