Alex wanted Stephanie to come over so he could tell her about Joy’s paralysis. He said the paralysis was probably temporary, but the recovery is going to take longer than they thought. Stephanie didn’t want him to touch her. She said she felt like his last priority. Alex tried to convince Stephanie that she wasn’t his last priority, but she walked out. At the pub, Brady told Xander and Sarah about the clues on Stefano that led to Dominic buying the Kiriakis mansion. Outside of the pub, Kayla told Steve that the hospital would be in receivership with the state without a buyer. Brady came out and told Steve about Dominic. Stephanie showed up to talk to Kayla about Joy. She told Kayla that she didn’t think Joy was paralyzed. Kayla told Stephanie that Joy’s paralysis was impossible to fake. Stephanie told her that she was afraid that her marriage wouldn’t survive a continued separation.

In the town square, Steve told Brady would send him everything the ISA had on Dominic who was on their radar. He told Brady that Dominic didn’t have a criminal record and wasn’t on social media. Steve said Dominic rarely left the island unless he went to Rome. Brady went back to the pub to tell Xander and Sarah what Steve found out about Dominic. Xander wasn’t sure if they should go with the devil they knew (EJ) who would get everything or the devil they didn’t know. Theo went to DiMera to find out why Johnny met with George behind his back. Johnny told him about an anonymous complaint that was brought against DiMera about the coriseal. Theo told Johnny that they had to cooperate with the FDA’s investigation. Johnny said they wouldn’t find anything. Theo said he believed Johnny thought he was doing the right thing for everyone. When Theo was alone, he wrote his letter of resignation.

Gabi tried to keep Philip calm about the poker game. They ended up kissing. While they were kissing, Dante Vitalli came into the room. He introduced himself as their host and Sami’s fiance’. Sydney, Otto, and the dealer showed up for the game. During the game, Sydney told everyone that Roman taught her how to play poker. She said she won at boarding school. Gabi brought up Ava during the game. Dante said he wasn’t close to his cousin, but he wasn’t going to let anyone insult her. When Otto said he won the round, Gabi said he cheated. Dante ended up throwing him out of the game. He suggested that they play two additional hands and wanted it to be winner take all. When the game was down to Dante and Philip, Dante bet 10 million dollars. Philip went all in and beat Dante. After the loss, Dante, left the room. Philip thanked Gabi and kissed her. He realized that it wasn’t enough money.

While Belle and Chad searched Dominic Marino’s mansion, a mystery man watched them on a tablet. Belle was afraid that the door being open was a trap. While they were searching the mansion, they found a chess set that looked like the set Stefano left for John and Marlena. EJ showed up at the mansion. He let Chad and Belle know that he wasn’t following them. EJ said he wanted to know why Dominic was buying the Kiriakis estate and what his intentions were in Salem. They all wondered if Dominic had a connection to anyone in Salem. The man watching them was wearing Stefano’s ring. EJ found Stefano’s things around the room. Chad found a key in the chessboard’s hidden panel and opened the board. There was a picture of Stefano and a blonde boy from 1992. They wondered if Dominic was the boy in the picture. Dante was in the room with the mystery man who was still watching Chad, Belle, and EJ. He let the mystery man know that everything worked out as planned. Dante said he didn’t have to bust Otto since Gabi did it. He said without Otto’s chips, the pot wouldn’t have been big enough for Philip to pay off the loan which led to saving Titan and the mansion. Dante told Dominic that he did a good job.

Sarah, Xander, and Brady were at the pub and realized that Johnny knew more about the Coriseal than he was letting on. She wanted to force the DiMeras hands by filing a motion against them with the FDA because they disposed the Coriseal at Smith Island. Xander was afraid that EJ would know Sarah did it. He was upset that Brady would allow Sarah to put a target on her back. Sarah informed Xander that no one forced her to do anything. The decision was hers. Brady noticed that Sarah seemed to regret not telling Xander about her plan. He realized they still needed Xander’s help if he wanted to do it. Xander wanted to help to make sure that EJ paid for his crimes against his family. Johnny met with George and found out about the anonymous complaint. He told George that he didn’t have anything to do with it. George reminded him that he was the co-CEO now so it was his problem. He realized that Sarah was probably the person who made the complaint. George thought Johnny could bring the company down, and he and EJ could go to prison. He thought that Johnny should do the same thing EJ did. George thought he should deny and deflect.

Gabi and Philip were excited about his win during the poker game. Philip didn’t think it was enough to pay back the loan to EJ. Gabi didn’t think it was a good idea to keep playing, but Philip wanted to do it. Philip played at the roulette table. He bet everything on red 18 since that was his father’s birthday. It turned out to be a good idea because Philip won the bet. They celebrated his win. Gabi warned him not to gamble anymore. He didn’t need to gamble since he had everything he needed. Philip leaned in close to her. They went back to the hotel to celebrate his win. Philip informed Gabi that he kept the $5 million from the roulette bet in case he lost it. He wanted to give it back to her.

Maggie went to Titan and saw Xander packing up the office. She let him know that they had until the next day to sign the papers transferring ownership of the mansion to Mr. Marino. Xander felt guilty for what happened to the company and the mansion. He was glad Victor wasn’t around to see it. Maggie thought that Victor would rise above it, and he would do the same. Xander didn’t think he deserved her kindness. Maggie has seen how he changed especially when it came to Victoria and how he handled Sarah’s relationship with Brady. He felt foolish thinking he and Sarah were getting closer again. Xander could accept that she was in love with someone else, but he would never love another woman. Maggie hoped he would find the happiness he deserved.

Gwen was upset and told Leo that she lost the hospital bid because Rafe sent the board her letter admitting to what she and EJ did to Dimitri. She looked in Leo’s direction. Leo assured her that he didn’t tell Rafe about the letter. He remembered talking to Cat about the letter. EJ ignored Cat’s call. Cat went to Rafe’s place. She was worried that EJ was suspicious now that she used to work the ISA. Rafe gave her good news. He told her that Gwen’s letter kept her from getting the hospital bid. Cat walked away as Gwen pounded on Rafe’s door. Gwen was upset that Rafe made it seem like she was working with EJ, and his experiments. Rafe reminded her that she was involved with EJ. He also reminded her that he offered her protection in exchange for what she knew about EJ. Gwen knew EJ would never pay for his crimes.

Holly saw Arianna talking to Mason, and he was rude to her again. After he left, Arianna found out that her internship was over. Arianna stormed off to the pub to tell her grandmothers about it. Kate tried to console her even though she was the reason her internship ended because Gabi wanted it to end. It turned out Mason was in the military and going to school on the G.I, bill. Marlena said that Mason volunteered at the mental health hotline she oversaw. Arianna approached him about his attitude when it concerned Holly. Mason said Holly was responsible for the death of someone he knew. Marlena sat with Kate and asked her if the Celtic knot meant anything to her. It didn’t mean anything to Kate. Marlena got upset because she wanted to know what it all meant.

Philip tried to get a feel or the poker room while it was empty. Gabi was afraid that he would keep chasing the high, but he assured her that he had it under control. Philip approached her because he wanted to start flirting with her to get started on their cover as a couple. They were about to kiss when Sydney (EJ and Sami’s daughter) arrived. She wanted to check out the room before the poker game started. Sydney said that her mother’s fiance was hosting it. He allowed her to have a spot at the table since he knew she was a good poker player. Sami’s fiancee. bought her a seat at the game in exchange for a cut of the money. Gabi and Philip wanted Sydney to keep quiet about the game so Kate wouldn’t find out about it. Sydney agreed not to say anything.

Chad and Belle didn’t have much luck with the chessboard mystery at the hotel they were at so they wanted to plan their next moves. He wanted to have a romantic moment while they were in Italy. They kissed in front of the fountain where John and Marlena were married. EJ left a message for Sydney to meet up. Cat called him so he answered the phone. They briefly flirted and then he became distant with her. EJ thought about Cat telling him that she used to be ISA. He told her that he didn’t hold it against her, but he hung up the phone. EJ found Chad and Belle and wanted to know if he knew that Cat was ISA. Chad was shocked to find that out. He didn’t think Shane would have her pretend to be Abby. EJ wanted Belle to ask Paul if the ISA was after him. He looked down at his finger and noticed that Stefano’s ring was missing. EJ called Rita and demanded that she find the ring. There was a man onscreen in a business suit sitting near Stefano’s picture. He got the ring from an envelope and put it on his ring finger.

Leo asked Gwen what she knew about DiMera’s black market deals. Gwen didn’t want to answer the question because she was afraid of EJ’s wrath and didn’t want to lose her investment. She told him about buying the hospital. Leo thought it was a bad and dangerous idea. He got called away for a meeting. Cat showed up and talked to Gwen. Kate agreed to revoke Arianna’s internship at DiMera Enterprises for Gabi. Gabi agreed not to let Philip do anything stupid during their trip. Leo met with Kate at the pub. She let him know that she was The Spectator’s new editor. Leo got excited that she wanted him to start a podcast.

Xander thought about Sarah moving on with Brady. Sarah showed up. They had a nice time together. She realized he was struggling with their situation. Xander said he wished things worked out differently. George ripped into Johnny for sending Theo in his place for the board meeting. He told Johnny that despite Theo being co-CEO, he’s the one who’s supposed to deal with anything coriseal related. George said he wasn’t taking the fall for anything. Steve and Brady found evidence that Johnny was the one who left the clue that saved Holly. They realized that he was involved in the cover up. Later on, Brady told Sarah what he and Steve found out about Johnny. They struggled with what to do and how to prove EJ’s guilt. Sarah thought it was time to put pressure on EJ.

After Johnny’s meeting with George, Xander showed up to check on Chanel. While they were talking, Xander warned Johnny about the decisions that he made. He warned Johnny that the wrong decisions could cost him. Johnny wanted to apologize to Xander for EJ’s actions and how it cost his family everything. Stephanie told Kayla that she couldn’t handle what Alex was telling her. She told Kayla that she and Alex haven’t had much joy since they have been married. Stephanie wondered if it was a sign that she and Alex weren’t supposed to be together. Kayla tried to convince Stephanie that it wasn’t true, but it didn’t do any good. At the hospital, Alex was with Joy. She got the news that there were no complications from the surgery. Joy realized that she couldn’t feel her legs. Sarah told her that it was normal to feel that way. Later on, Joy still couldn’t feel or move her legs. Joy wanted to know if she was paralyzed. Kayla said her paralysis was most likely temporary. Alex said he would be there for her and Kelsey.

At the hospital, Joy looked at the custody papers. Kayla showed up in her room with Kelsey. She was upset that Kelsey was with Steve and Kayla so Alex and Stephanie could spend time together. While Joy and Kayla were talking, she was worried about her surgery. Joy wanted to sign an advance directive in case something went wrong. When Kayla left, Joy called Melinda. Alex spent time with Stephanie. After they spent time together, Alex went to the hospital to see Joy. He brought Joy flowers from Stephanie. Joy was appreciative of the flowers. She ripped into Alex for not telling her that Steve and Kayla were watching Kelsey. Instead of focusing on that, Joy wanted to talk about the custody agreement. Joy wanted to reassess Stephanie’s mental health to make sure she’s safe to be around Kelsey since they couldn’t agree on anything. Joy let him know that if he didn’t agree on the terms, Chloe would have full custody of Kelsey if something goes wrong with the surgery. Alex was upset about it. Joy said she wanted peace before her surgery.

At DiMera Enterprises, Johnny couldn’t convince Theo to let him take the meeting with George O’Halloran. Theo told him to be with Chanel. He wanted Johnny to promise that he wouldn’t keep secrets from him. Later on, Theo told Stephanie that he thought Johnny was keeping something from him. Stephanie told him she was there to listen if he needed to talk about anything. Later on, Alex ran into Stephanie. He told her that he signed an agreement stating that she had to stay 10 feet away from Kelsey for one year. Alex said he hoped he and Joy could revisit the agreement once she got out of surgery. Stephanie said she didn’t think it would make a difference. She walked away from him. Paulina was with Chanel during her chemo appointment. While they were talking, Paulina brought up that Johnny should be at the appointment. She also mentioned that Johnny was in the situation he was in because of EJ. Chanel defended Johnny. Marlena ran into Johnny at the hospital. She tried to convince him to tell Chanel the truth about the secrets he was keeping from her. Johnny said the risk would be too great for his father, the company, and the family. When Marlena went to her office, she thought about the Celtic knot clue in the chessboard mystery. Marlena realized she saw it on Stefano’s island.

Leo met with Gabi to talk about the counterfeit bag. He found someone selling them on the Dark Web. Leo wanted to track down the supplier, but he needed $25,000 to convince the seller that he’s legit. Gabi wasn’t happy about it, but she was willing to do it. Leo said counterfeiting provides funds for other criminal enterprises. He was afraid they could be doing something dangerous. Leo wasn’t sure what the DiMeras were up to. Gabi wanted to get Chad’s help. Chanel wasn’t happy when a gift from EJ arrived at the apartment. Johnny thought things were okay with EJ. Chanel reminded him that there were supposed to be boundaries with him. Now that he’s close with EJ, she wasn’t sure she could trust him. Chanel told him that she overheard his conversation with Marlena. She knew he was hiding something from her. Chanel wanted to know what EJ dragged him into. Johnny didn’t admit to anything. He promised her that he wouldn’t do anything for his father. Chanel believed he was telling the truth.

Marlena wasn’t happy about Belle going to Italy. She knew about the Celtic knot and that Stefano was obsessed with Colleen Brady who was from Ireland. Belle admitted that she wasn’t sure if she was following Stefano’s clues carefully, but they had to start somewhere. Marlena hated the idea, but she was going to help her decipher the clues. She looked at the Celtic knot on Belle’s phone, and it froze. Belle claimed it didn’t meant anything to her. Marlena was afraid she was going to get hurt.

Everyone was getting ready for the father/daughter dance. Brady met up with Sarah and asked her if she wanted to move in with him. He confronted her about almost kissing Xander. Sarah denied it, but Brady noticed how close she was with Xander and Victoria during the dance. Brady asked her if she still loved Xander. Sarah admitted that she’s still in love with Xander. She downplayed her feelings for Xander. Sarah told Brady that she and Xander know that love wasn’t enough for them. She wanted to be with Brady because she loved him. Xander heard Sarah talking to Brady. Brady was convinced that Sarah loved him and kissed her.

Alex told Joy about Kelsey’s ear infection, and she was going crazy staying in the hospital. Philip arrived to see Joy. Alex took Kelsey out of the room and left Philip and Joy alone. Philip wanted to know why Joy didn’t tell Chloe anything. He said he just talked to her, and she didn’t tell him anything. Philip was determined to get answers from her. Joy didn’t want her parents anywhere near her, and Chloe was on a cross-country tour. Philip finally understood once Joy turned down getting help with Kelsey. He realized that Alex would have to keep Kelsey all the time which meant that Stephanie had to stay away. Philip knew that Joy was enjoying it. Joy got upset with him and told him to stay away from her. Stephanie talked to Steve about Kelsey’s ear infection just when Alex showed up with her. She had to leave once they arrived. Steve offered to watch the baby so they could be alone. It took some convincing, but Alex finally agreed to it. Philip went to the pub and ran into Brady. They talked about Joy. Brady wanted to smooth things over things. He was worried about Chloe’s sister. While they were talking, Philip mentioned how upset Xander was about Sarah and Brady living together. He let it slip that Xander and Sarah kissed in the wine cellar. Philip let out parts of the story. He did enough to make Brady upset.

Dr. Patel (Chanel’s doctor) went to Chanel’s room to tell her Johnny that there weren’t any signs of cancer in her placenta, and it hadn’t spread from the initial site. She told Chanel and Johnny that the tumor shrunk and that she could go home. Abe went to visit Chanel so he could see the baby. He had a gift for Olivia. Things became awkward because he didn’t know how to sign the card. Johnny and Chanel assured him that he would always be a grandfather to their children. Paulina came up, and Abe thought he didn’t have the right to ask anything of Paulina.

Lani, Paulina, and Marlena were at Chanel and Johnny’s to get ready for their homecoming. Paulina was excited for Chanel and Johnny, but miserable over Abe. Lani wanted to go to Sweet Bits to give Marlena and Paulina a chance to talk. Paulina told Marlena that she didn’t need Abe in her life and he didn’t need her in his. Marlena felt like Paulina was protesting too much. Paulina felt like Abe should have reached out if he wanted to talk to her. She felt like being Abe’s second choice would always sting. Marlena told her that her relationship with Abe was different from his relationship with Lexie. Paulina talked to her about Johnny keeping secrets from Chanel. She felt like he was keeping more from her. Marlena thought she was right about that. Johnny and Chanel arrived home so Marlena wanted to focus on them. Paulina took Chanel in the bedroom. They talked about how much they hated Johnny keeping EJ’s secrets. Johnny noticed that Paulina wanted Marlena to talk to him about something. She wanted to talk to him about Holly. Johnny was shocked that Marlena mentioned that. Marlena wanted to know what EJ did and how much he knew about what he did. Holly was at the town square and ran into a man named Mason. He and Holly were about to buy the same book. Julie introduced them. Mason told Holly that they’ve met before. He walked off. Some guy watched while Julie gushed over Holly’s necklace. He stood up and followed Holly when she left. The guy caught up with Holly and demanded that she give him the necklace. Holly refused to give up her father’s necklace. He pulled out a switchblade when Lani arrived. She tackled him to the ground. Mason arrived and praised Lani for what she did to the mystery man. Johnny pretended not to know what Marlena was talking about, and she snapped at him. She refused to keep up the charade if he wasn’t going to tell the truth. Marlena was there to help him if EJ put him in a bad position. Chanel overheard them talking.

Cat met with Rafe, and they talked about EJ. She said that EJ was desperate, and Rafe thought that made him dangerous. Cat was convinced she had everything under control for now. She talked to him about her therapy session and that she told EJ in the past that she was ISA. Rafe was upset about that. He told her to be prepared if EJ remembered that. Philip wanted to “propose” to Gabi and used Maggie’s ring to do it. Maggie walked in as he was about to slip the ring on Gabi’s finger. They were shocked to see Maggie. Melanie was staying with Melissa so she wanted to say goodbye to her home. Gabi offered her condolences to Maggie and left. Maggie used the private time to figure out of Philip was up to something. She was worried because she knew Philip was gambling. Maggie reminded him that Victor would rather lose everything than see him gamble. Gwen called EJ out for not telling her that Lexie died. It was the first time she heard anything about the miracle drug failing. EJ let her know that he tried to tell her, but she wouldn’t listen to him. They insulted each other back and forth. Gwen let him know that she was tired of living in fear. She informed him that she had the chance to throw him under the bus with Rafe, but she didn’t do it. EJ reminded her that they had dirt on each other. He would support her decision to buy the hospital and keep quiet about her involvement. Gwen also had to cut him in on a deal. Cat walked in before Gwen could say anything. Gwen planned to get back to him with an offer. She walked out of the DiMera mansion.
