Nick: I wish I’d filmed that kid during Christmas. Did you see how hard Christian was trying to keep up with all the big kids?

Victoria: Yes, I did. From what I could tell, he did a fantastic job. You know when all the cousins get together, watch out.

Nick: After all the ice skating and snowball fights and the constant running around, by the time I got him home, he was talking to me — mid-sentence, he falls asleep.

Victoria: [Chuckling] You’re kidding me. Aw. Poor Christian.

Nick: Yeah. It’s like somebody unplugged him. He was totally done. I don’t think he moved an inch the rest of the night.

Victoria: Well, I’m very glad that he had a good time.

Nick: Yeah. We all did. Uh, Johnny and Connor were inseparable. Seems like that’s going well.

Victoria: I’m proud of the way that Johnny’s navigating the situation with Chelsea since she took it upon herself to disclose that she’s his biological mother.

Nick: I feel real good about my gift choice for you.

Sally: Oh. Good. Me too. You’re really gonna love your coffee mug. It’s got a really funny quote on it. I would tell you what it says, but I don’t want to ruin the surprise, you know?

Nick: Yeah. Okay. Well, I know you’re just gonna love your book of sudoku. I mean, it’s hours of entertainment.

Sally: Ooh. It’s snowing.

Nick: Wow.

Sally: [Chuckles]

Nick: Seems like, uh, perfect timing.

Adam: Hey. Can you stand some company?

Sally: It’s the holidays, and I’m feeling generous.

Adam: [Clears throat] So, remind me — which holiday did you celebrate while, um, the rest of us merrymakers were sipping our eggnog?

Victor: Hey, son. Good to see you. Have a seat. Gives me a chance to tell you how much I appreciated you and Connor coming by and spending time with us at Christmas.

Adam: Well, thank you for including us…

Victor: Yeah.

Adam: …And not being too overbearing with Chelsea and Connor.

Victor: [Chuckles] What? Your father overbearing? When the hell did that happen? And I promised you I’d behave, and I did, right

******”***********”*””””””””””””””””””””

Billy: Yeah, I know life can feel like it’s moving a million miles a minute, but you seem to be doing great on the outside. Is that true?

Chelsea: Having a safe space has made everything more tolerable for me. I have to be honest with you. Christmas at the ranch was a bit overwhelming, though, with all the Newmans and Adam. It felt like a collision of all my problems at once. And Victoria was there with Katie and Johnny. Before you ask, everything went great. It was fine. You know, Johnny and Connor are inseparable these days, and it’s wonderful.

Billy: Yeah, I agree. It’s great. I’m really proud of those boys. But you do seem to be glossing over the elephant in the room. Victor. I’ve been telling everyone…

Chelsea: Victor tried to be on his best behavior, but it was still very clear that he doesn’t trust me. But Adam was there, and he was by my side and very supportive, kept checking in, making sure I was okay.

Billy: Well, Victor doesn’t trust anyone, so it sounds like your visit went par for the course. However, I am grateful that Adam was watching out for you.

Chelsea: You’re grateful to Adam. Well, this is a first.

Billy: Keep that down, please. Don’t tell anyone I said that. More importantly, it sounds like you held your own.

Chelsea: To be honest with you, the day was great. The night was not. I just started getting these nagging, racing thoughts. My therapist calls them a thought spiral. So, she gives me techniques to try to manage them.

Ashley: Hi. Hi.

Phyllis: Hey.

Ashley: I came as soon as i got your message. What’s going on?

Phyllis: Diane’s back.

Ashley: Ugh! And I was hoping we were finally rid of her.

Phyllis: Mnh. She never really ran, by the way. That was just to cover so jeremy stark would leave town looking for her. And the worst part for me is my own daughter blew me off for christmas so she could spend it with diane and her husband so he could, you know, live out his childhood dreams with his mom.

Ashley: I am so sorry. That must have been very painful.

Phyllis: I’m not done. There’s more. Ashley, my daughter has always confided in me. She’s always trusted me before diane corrupted her. And my daughter let everybody in town think that I was the one who chased diane out of town, when, really, there was — i don’t know — a jabot-sponsored motorcade bringing her up to the abbott cabin.

Ashley: Listen, I understand your anger because jack did the same thing to me.

Phyllis: Seriously?

Ashley: Yes. He lied right to my face, telling me that diane had fled genoa city in fear. He continues to defend her, and he continues to blame us.

Phyllis: Ashley, what are we gonna do? We’re all in danger now.

Diane: Now that he’s taken the bait, I need to make sure that jeremy doesn’t have any doubts that I want to be with him again.

Jack: No, he has to believe that you’re all-in, that you’re ready to be part of his criminal activities again.

Diane: Well, I also need to make him believe that I’m drawn to him, that I missed him, and that I want to be with him romantically.

Jack: He doesn’t seem to be the kind of guy who trusts easily, if he trusts at all.

Diane: Well, it’s true.

Jack: Well, you’re gonna have to be pretty convincing to persuade him that you’re still attracted to him.

Diane: That’s the plan. Jack, are you worried that i won’t be able to pull this off? Or that I will?

Devon: Hey, look who it is!

Abby: Hi! You want to go see dad?

Devon: How you doing, buddy?

Abby: Yeah!

Devon: Mmm! How you doing? Oh! It’s good to see you. How you doing? Is it cold out there?

Abby: So cold.

Devon: We’re gonna get you all warmed up. How’s mommy?

Abby: Sorry it took us so long.

Devon: Oh, don’t be sorry at all. Gave me a chance to get it all cleaned up around here.

Abby: [ Chuckles ]

Devon: Look at you. Look at this jacket. Look at your hat.

Abby: Ooh, I can get you one.

Devon: It’s very cute. Can you?

Abby: Mm-hmm.

Devon: I’d love that. Same size, please. I want to match this guy.

Abby: Daddy is so silly. What are we gonna do with him?

Devon: Want to get you out of this? Let’s get you out of this jacket, huh?

Abby: Tucker’s not here yet.

Devon: No, no. He’ll be here any second. But, uh, I appreciate you being okay with him spending more time with dominic.

Abby: Yeah. You know, I’ve thought about it, and I want to dominic to know his entire family. It’s the right thing to do.

Devon: Well, it means a lot to me. It really does. And I think that the more love he gets, the better, right?

Abby: Exactly.

Devon: Yeah.

Abby: Yeah. Hi.

Devon: Doesn’t mean that I’m not gonna protect this little guy. I don’t care if it’s family or not. I’m always gonna be there for him.

Abby: I would like to be here for the visit, though, if that’s okay.

Tucker: That is quite a sight.

Jack: You know what? It doesn’t matter how I feel about your plan.

Diane: Well, you’ve made it clear that you hate it.

Jack: Well, the point is, I played my part. I pretended to be outraged that you came back to town only because you couldn’t stand to be away from jeremy stark any longer. The only reason I went along with this scheme is because there didn’t seem to be a viable option to getting this man out of our lives.

Diane: Jack, I promise it will work and I will be safe.

Jack: How can you say that when you’re dealing with a man like stark?

Diane: Because I know how to handle him.

Jack: You just finished telling me he can’t be trusted. Now you’re putting yourself in a situation where you have to convince him you really want him back in your life. I’m not comfortable with any of this.

Diane: [ Sighs ] Well, try to keep your personal feelings out of this and just focus on making the plan work.

Jack: I think I can do that.

Diane: I know you can. Just look at it this way. My job is to make jeremy think that he’s in control.

Jack: Yeah. And when this is over, you will be free of him forever.

Diane: Right. And if I’m going to make my act convincing, I think I need to get back to my hotel.

Jack: Well, no. No, that’s is the last place you should be — under the same roof with this man you don’t trust, alone? No. I want you to stay here.

Ashley: But, see, I’m not surprised by this because i didn’t believe for a second that diane would actually walk away from her meal ticket. In fact, after she had “left town,” I asked jack if he’d actually stashed her away someplace and was getting his kicks by being the hero, you know?

Phyllis: He denied it, of course.

Ashley: Much worse.

Phyllis: Yeah?

Ashley: His righteous indignation was absolutely epic. He expected me to apologize for my part in getting her to leave town. The lies just keep rolling off his tongue. It’s unbelievable.

Phyllis: She has him completely fooled.

Ashley: It makes me wonder. I mean, how far is he willing to go to protect her?

Phyllis: He’s blind. They’re all blind.

Ashley: I know.

Phyllis: I mean, instead of stark being a threat to her and her leaving town, she’s used this to dig in even further.

Ashley: I guess it doesn’t really do any good to remind you I wasn’t a big fan of him.

Phyllis: Well, I know you weren’t — because he was a threat.

Ashley: Yeah.

Phyllis: Jeremy stark was a threat. But she spun this whole thing to her advantage. Really. And she’s manipulated your entire family and my daughter to think that anybody…

Ashley: I know.

Phyllis: …Who points out the truth…

Ashley: I know.

Phyllis: …Is the enemy. She is a sociopath. Her plan is working.

Ashley: I know.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ]

Summer: Mom. I’ve been trying to get in touch with you.

Phyllis: I can’t imagine why.

Summer: Can we please talk?

Phyllis: It’s not a good time.

Tucker: This does my heart such good, being here with you guys. Dominic, you’re one lucky guy.

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Abby: Well, we make sure to tell him that every day, whether he’s at my place or here with his dad.

Tucker: And believe me, i know how fortunate I am to do this — ’cause I know I wouldn’t be able to if you weren’t on board with it. So I want you to know how much i appreciate it. Ah, you’re gonna change the world one day, aren’t you?

Abby: Aww.

Devon: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Abby: Poor baby.

Devon: Got to get a full night’s sleep before he changes the world, huh?

Tucker: Yeah.

Abby: I think he’s starting to wind down.

Tucker: Yeah.

Devon: You know what? I’m gonna try and calm him down a little bit. You don’t want to hang out with anybody while you’re tired. Right?

Tucker: Thank you, dominic.

Abby: Aw.

Devon: Let’s get you relaxed.

Tucker: And thank you for letting me be in his life.

Abby: Well, you’re his grandfather.

Tucker: Mm.

Abby: I think it’s important for dominic to know his entire family. In fact, I would like to get reacquainted with his grandfather. So, what have you been up to?

[ Both laugh ]

Tucker: Geez. Where do I begin?

Abby: Well, I know you have business interests around the globe, so I’m sure you have many things clamoring for your attention.

Tucker: Mm, nothing as important as being with family.

Abby: Mm. Do you have any plans for your business while you’re in town?

Tucker: Nothing set in stone.

Abby: How long are you gonna be in town?

Tucker: I haven’t decided yet.

Devon: Hey.

Tucker: Hey.

Devon: I think he’s done for the night. I’m gonna put his pajamas on.

Tucker: Oh, sure. Okay.

Devon: So…

Abby: I love you.

[ Smooches ]

Tucker: Good night. Sweet dreams.

Devon: Say “night, night.”

Tucker: Night, night.

Devon: Say “night, night.” I’ll be right back when he’s asleep.

Tucker: Okay. Well, take your time. We got a lot to talk about.

Devon: Alright.

Abby: Do we?

Tucker: Yeah, we’ll start with the big issue. You don’t trust me. And, frankly, you shouldn’T.

Abby: [ Breathes deeply ] How do I do it all?

Abby: This isn’t about whether or not I trust you or your intentions. I just know what it takes to run a business like the one that you’ve created.

Tucker: Ah. Do tell.

Abby: Well, you’ll do whatever it takes to get what you want, very driven. God help whoever stands in your way.

Tucker: [ Chuckles ] Yeah. That’s a, uh — [ Chuckles ] That’s painfully accurate of the way I lived in my life. But notice I used the past tense there because the man you just described — that’s not the one standing before you now.

Abby: What’s changed?

Tucker: Hmm. Well, uh, I experienced an event that, uh, made me reevaluate everything. It kind of, um, changed my outlook, gave my life a deeper meaning. I guess you could call it a — a revolution in perception.

Abby: Hmm. I assume you’re talking about your time in ashram?

Tucker: You don’t believe that?

Abby: No, I believe you were there. I’m just wondering if it was more of a corporate maneuver or a way to sway public opinion.

Tucker: No, it was very much real and very much enlightening.

Abby: I assume that you understand why I’m so protective of dominic.

Tucker: Of course. Oh, my god, yes. But I would never — I would never do anything to hurt him. I — ever.

Abby: Mm. But I’m sure you said the same thing about my mother.

Summer: Ashley, I’m sorry to interrupt.

Ashley: No, it’s — it’s fine.

Summer: Mom…

Phyllis: Hmm?

Summer: …This is important.

Phyllis: Well, whatever it is, it’s gonna have to wait. I’m having a meeting right now.

Ashley: No, actually, this — this can wait, okay? Call me. It’s fine.

Summer: Mom, you can’t avoid me forever.

Phyllis: I can’t have this conversation with you right now.

Summer: Why not?

Phyllis: Because, um — well, because I’m devastated.

[ Chuckles ]

Summer: Okay. That’s fine. But can you just listen to me, then, please? Mom, I am so sorry. I don’t even know what’s going on with this whole diane and stark thing from minute to minute. It’s overwhelming, and I’m just trying to keep my family safe.

Phyllis: I’m your family.

Summer: I didn’t mean for it to sound like I was excluding you. I’m not. It’s just, I’m — I’ve just been so worried about harrison and kyle.

Phyllis: Ah. Okay. I understand that. Because you would do anything for them, right? You’d bend over backwards for them. But would they treat you like trash? Would they make you think that maybe you don’t matter?

Summer: I’m sorry that I made you feel like I don’t value you.

Phyllis: I am your mother. I don’t care what diane is feeding you. But i am your mother. I know I’ve made mistakes. I know I’ve screwed up. But I [Voice breaking] Would move mountains for you. Mountains, summer. I’d walk through fire for you. I would do anything for you.

Summer: Mom, I know that. I do, okay?

Phyllis: You keep on believing diane over me. I don’t know how to forgive that anymore, summer. I don’t know what to say.

Daniel: Hey, you two. Uh, how about I get us a round of drinks?

Phyllis: Oh, no, I — I have to go, uh… I have a meeting to go to.

Summer: Where? What —

Phyllis: Yeah. I-I just have to be anywhere but here, you know?

Summer: Mom, wait.

Phyllis: Yeah. No. I-I just — I have to — I have to go. Please. I-I can’t talk about this anymore.

Daniel: What the hell was that all about?

Diane: I appreciate the invitation, jack, but I can’t stay here.

Jack: I am not taking no for an answer.

Diane: Well, think about it. I’d be putting everyone at risk.

Jack: We will find some way to work around that.

Diane: What, and — and uproot an entire household? Send them away until it’s safe to come back? You know you can’t do that. And if jeremy got the slightest idea that I ran to you for protection, it would totally undermine the fight that we staged earlier. No!

Jack: You could use that to your advantage. You tell him that you moved in so you could make sure I gave him the second half of that fortune I promised him.

Diane: Which you never should have done. Why did you offer him so much money?

Jack: I honestly thought i was buying your freedom.

Diane: Well, I fully intend to get that money back. I mean it. Every cent.

Jack: Don’t — don’t worry about that. Right now, we have to stay focused on how we get there.

Diane: Exactly.

Jack: So, you let him know that you’re willing to use me and my resources, that you’ll use your role as mother and grandmother to manipulate all of us.

Devon: Alright, devil’s advocate — why would you let me back in after the fight we had at crimson lights?

Jack: Because I have a forgiving nature. Because there’s nothing you will do that I won’t excuse. Hell, half the people in my life already believe that. That should be an easy sell. Besides, this — this feeds into the story that part of you is still attracted to that jet-setting criminal lifestyle. You’ll do anything for stark, including put the family you love in danger.

Diane: No, jack. I’m sorry. It won’t work. We have to do this my way.

Ever notice how stiff clothes can feel rough on your skin?

Diane: I can’t tell you what it means to me that you’re willing to risk so much for my safety.

Jack: Of course we are. We’re talking about your life here.

Diane: But I need to make this look real. I need to walk the walk, live the lie. Everything hinges on me selling this to jeremy.

Kyle: How can we help?

Diane: [ Sighs ] Well, the first thing I’m going to do is tell him that I found an apartment where I’ve been hiding when I ran and, while I’ve been there, I’ve decided what I want to do next.

Kyle: Which is?

Diane: To move back into my suite at the grand phoenix.

Kyle: You can’t go back there. There’s no security.

Diane: Kyle, there’s no other way. There’s no other way. I have to be smart. I have to think five steps ahead. Jeremy will never think I’m on his side if I was to stay here.

Jack: Well, you’re not planning on cutting off all contact with us?

Diane: No, no, of course not. I will also tell him that just because I’m working with him that I’m not going to abandon my family, that I’ve — I’ve tried too hard to reconnect with my son and having my grandson in my life is too important.

Jack: And when stark questions that choice?

Diane: Well, then I’ll let him know that I’m aware of the inherent risks, but I’m confident that I can pull it off. I mean, after all, if I can make everyone believe that I was dead all those years, there’s nothing I can’t do.

Jack: [ Groans ]

Diane: I’m sorry, but it is imperative that I sound cold and calculating, or jeremy will never believe that I’m the person who used to launder money for him. He needs to know that I can work some kind of scam with him while keeping it a secret from the people I’m closest to.

Kyle: This seems like a bad idea. What do you think?

Jack: Oh, I agree with you. I don’t like it.

Diane: But it’s necessary. And I can’t pull any of this off unless I know that the two of you trust me.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] Will you at least let me drive you to the hotel?

Diane: No. I should be careful with every move I make. I don’t want him to see you dropping me off.

Kyle: I don’t like you staying in the same place as this guy.

Diane: I will be fine. Do you two trust me?

Kyle: [ Sighs ] Of course we do.

Jack: It’s stark we’re concerned about.

Diane: I’m going to make this work. I have to. It’s the only way I’ll ever be part of this family.

Daniel: You ready to tell me what I walked in on between you and mom?

Summer: We were arguing about diane again.

Daniel: Ah. What’s the latest?

Summer: Diane wanted it to look like she left town out of fear for this criminal from her past.

Daniel: But in fact…?

Summer: She was at the abbott cabin while jack and kyle tried to figure out a way to deal with the situation.

Daniel: Still doesn’t explain why mom was so furious with you.

Summer: [ Chuckles ] I didn’t tell her what was going on. So I guess that means that I’m choosing diane over my own mother.

Daniel: Yeah, well…

Summer: What?

Daniel: That’s what it looks like from the outside. I can only imagine how she feels.

Summer: Daniel, I’m stuck in an impossible position between kyle’s mom and my own. And I have a child of my own to protect now. Are you — what am I supposed to do? This criminal rolls into town. He’s capable of anything. He’s making threats. And mom was the one that got that ball rolling, by the way.

Daniel: How?

Summer: She made an anonymous call that led him here so that he could find diane.

Daniel: Look, I get it. I can see why you’d be upset with her.

Summer: Thank you.

Daniel: But it does sound like mom was right about diane. So, why would you just ignore that fact and blame her for everything?

Summer: I don’T. I blame diane.

Tucker: Abby, I come in peace. I would never mean any harm to ashley or dominic — or anyone, for that matter.

Abby: [ Sighs ] Look, I want to believe that you’re this changed man, that you have a new outlook on life. But let’s look at the facts. You only reappeared in genoa city after diane returned. The two of you had some sort of relationship in los angeles. You never bothered to tell any of us that she was still alive. So it seems more like a familiar pattern than a brand-new way of living.

Tucker: I’m not sure I see your point.

Abby: I have a reason to be skeptical. I’m the one who walked in on you and diane when you cheated on my mom — for the first time. And then, of course, there was the next time you cheated on her with devon’s mom — harmony. And I told my mom not to reconcile with you.

[ Chuckles ] So, when I see the two of you together — mnh — the alarm bells start going off. So, you can sit there and you can tell me that you’ve changed, that you love my mom, that you would never hurt her, blah, blah, blah, but those are just words. They mean nothing to me.

Tucker: You’re absolutely right. Trust needs to be earned. And until I can demonstrate that I am worthy of your trust, all i ask of you is… that you give me the gift of neutrality, considering the situation we find ourselves in. I mean, after all, you and devon are gonna be in each other’s lives forever.

Abby: What’s that supposed to mean?

For your most brilliant smile,

crest has you covered.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Tucker: No, I just meant that since you and devon had dominic together, you’ll be forever bound by that connection.

Abby: Of course.

Tucker: How’d it go?

Devon: Oh, it went alright. He went right to sleep.

Tucker: Nice, nice.

Abby: Hopefully he’ll sleep through the night.

Devon: Yeah, I hope so, too. I apologize. I’m sorry you didn’t get spend more time with him.

Tucker: Oh, no, no, no. I treasured every second.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Devon: You gonna check that?

Tucker: No, no. I know who it is. It can wait. Hey, thanks so much for including me here. It means a lot to me.

Devon: Absolutely. It means a lot to us, too. The more love that boy has, the better.

Tucker: Mm. Yeah. Well, uh, you two enjoy the rest of your evening.

Devon: Thank you. You too.

Tucker: I think I’m gonna go put myself to bed.

[ Laughter ]

Devon: Well, don’t be a stranger.

Tucker: Oh, you know I won’T.

Devon: Thanks for coming.

Tucker: Okay. Good night.

Devon: Night.

Abby: Good night.

[ Door opens ]

[ Door closes ]

Devon: Sorry that I left you guys down here so long together.

Abby: Ah, no. Why — why do you think something’s wrong?

Devon: Well, the look on your face when I came back, for one.

Abby: Mm. No, um… no, we were just having an honest conversation, you know, which I think is important since we’ll be spending more time together.

Devon: I like the sound of that. What happened between you guys?

Abby: What do you mean?

Devon: What do you mean, what do I mean? When I came down here, there was a clear vibe going on. So, you gonna tell me about it?

Kyle: As if this plan wasn’t dangerous enough already, on top of everything else, phyllis found out my mother is back in town. Dad, this concerns me.

Jack: Yeah, she was already feeling ostracized and angry. This only makes phyllis more of a wild card.

Kyle: And hopefully summer can help put out that fire. She went to track down her mother to apologize for keeping her in the dark.

Jack: So, what’s your sense? Does phyllis have a frame of mind to accept an apology?

Kyle: I sure hope so. I mean, I will do whatever it takes to get jeremy stark out of my mother’s life, but this is starting to put my wife in the middle of things, trying to balance her relationship with phyllis while supporting me in my relationship with my own mother.

Jack: Yeah, summer has really been there for you, hasn’t she?

Kyle: It’s been tougher than she’s been letting on, but she knows my mom needs our support right now.

Jack: I am sorry that summer and her mother are at odds, but I don’t feel a moment of sympathy toward phyllis. She played dirty, and it backfired. She’s done it before, and knowing phyllis, she’ll do it again. She’s impulsive, and she goes to extremes without considering the consequences.

[ Pounding on door ]

Open up! It’s jeremy!

Diane: [ Scoffs ]

Tucker: It’s tucker! Sorry. I just couldn’t resist. Hey.

Diane: You’re a son of a bitch.

Tucker: Uh-huh. Ah, I see.

[ Door closes ] So, first you couldn’t pack because you were in such a panic to get out of town, and now you’re packing because…? Hmm? I think I know. You’ve booked a finely appointed suite at the abbott house.

Diane: Go to hell. Just between us, you know what’s better than mopping?

Summer: I mean, did mom call stark and tell him where he could find diane? Yeah. But everyone’s forgetting a very important fact. Stark is a criminal. It was only a matter of time before he found diane all by himself. They have unfinished business.

Daniel: That’s a good point. Sounds like everyone was being way too hard on mom.

Summer: I agree. But…how do I tell my husband that the mother he is so grateful to have back in his life has brought nothing but nonstop misery and chaos to our doorstep? You know, I’ll give him that harrison loves her, and, yeah, she’s great with him, but it doesn’t change the fact that she’s the reason our child is now in danger. And she is the reason that our marriage is now complicated beyond belief.

Daniel: It’s, uh… it’s a lot. Sorry, I had no idea that things had gotten this bad.

Summer: That’s because I have been trying really, really hard to just keep everything inside. I mean, I have just been going along with everything that kyle wants for the sake of our marriage.

Daniel: So, what are you gonna do now?

Diane: What are you even doing here?

Tucker: I need to know when jeremy stark is leaving town.

Diane: Why? You getting nervous?

Tucker: I got big plans, and he could mess them up, so I want him gone.

[ Clicks tongue ] Make it happen.

Diane: I’m trying. But in case you haven’t noticed, my life is in danger.

Tucker: You have such a flair for the dramatic. You’re far better off than you’d care to admit.

Diane: [ Scoffs ]

Tucker: By the way, I just think you did a spectacular job with jack. Remarkable, what you’ve been able to accomplish in such a short time. I should really pat myself on the back for aiding you in your quest, though.

Diane: How the hell can you say that you’ve been helping me? When I told jack about my past with jeremy, you lost your hold over me. You couldn’t force me to be your spy and give you intel about jabot’s financials, so you turned on me. You told ashley all about jeremy being released from prison, knowing full well she was involved with that coven who was doing everything they could to run me out of town. You know, you set this in motion, tucker. You put all the people I care about in danger in the process. You were sacrificing all of us just so you could, what, win over ashley?

Tucker: And yet here you are, back in the saddle.

Diane: Yeah. Yeah. Forced to deal with jeremy stark, to eliminate the threat that you brought to this town. I mean, I’ve become toxic to my family. So, as a matter of fact, to answer your question, I’m checking back in to this hotel.

Tucker: Something tells me jack will find a way to turn things around.

Diane: No. I’ve — I’ve lost him.

Tucker: Oh, give me a break. You got him wrapped around your finger. You know, diane, I’m starting to think that I could learn a thing or two from you.

Diane: [ Scoffs ]

Tucker: Well, may we both get the abbott of our dreams. See you around.

[ Chuckles ]

[ Door slams ]

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Abby: Tucker just pointed out that you and I will always be connected…because of dominic.

Devon: He’s not wrong.

Abby: You know, I don’t think it would be the worst thing in the world for dominic and tucker to spend time together, occasionally, to be in each other’s lives.

Devon: Yeah. Well, you’ve clearly had a change of heart.

Abby: Mm. This is purely for your sake, not for your father’S.

Devon: I still appreciate it. How you doing otherwise?

Abby: You know, when we’re with each other… things just feel so… uncomplicated and easy. It just — it feels right. What? [ Laughs ]

Devon: No, it’S… I feel exactly the same way. Dry skin is sensitive skin, too.

Devon: I really want you to stay.

Abby: I want to stay.

Phyllis: [ Slurring ] Amanda, why didn’t you answer? Ugh, I’m having a hard time. I miss you. You’re the only one who gets me. I have abandonment issues. You know that about me.

[ Chuckles ] My daughter turned her back on me. You moved. So… I need to talk to you. Call me back. Or just move back here. Alright. I’ll talk to you later. I love you.

Tucker: Sounds like you could use someone to talk to.

[ Chuckles ]

Phyllis: I’m impervious to your charm, okay? That’s never, ever gonna change, tucker. You know?

[ Sighs ] If I need a friend, I will go find… one of mine.

Tucker: I see. Well, you know, we don’t have to be friends to have a mutually beneficial relationship.

Summer: I mean, I deserve an award for all the acting I’ve had to do. Every day is this massive production about protecting and defending diane, and I have to sit here and pretend like i believe that she’s the victim. This is a woman that burned her own life to the ground before she faked her death and stayed away for years, living a life of crime. And jack and kyle — they’re operating under this delusion that our mom is the problem, that she’s the one that created this whole mess. And you want to know what’s even more infuriating?

Daniel: Oh, there’s more?

Summer: Diane convinced kyle to lie to me about a piece of her past. I mean, he told me the truth anyway, eventually, and I was sure to let her know that. I told her not to come between me and kyle.

Daniel: What did she say?

Summer: She said all the right things. She always says all the right things. Every conversation with her is so carefully curated.

Daniel: How’s kyle handling all this?

Summer: Great. I’m hiding all my feelings, and he believes every word she says. She’s his mother.

Daniel: Mm. But how could he forgive her for abandoning him when he was a child?

Summer: He thinks she’s changed, that she’s incapable of being that same person that she was decades ago when she left him.

Daniel: Well, this can’t be easy for you.

Summer: I feel like I’m holding my breath 24/7. And it’s not like I can even go to mom and unload any of this. I literally have no one to talk to. I’m just… I’m glad that you’re here so i can finally be honest with someone.

Daniel: Look, I’m happy to listen. I will always listen. I don’t think you should have kept it all bottled up in the first place.

Summer: I’m dealing with this the only way that I can. I mean, kyle and I have managed to stay strong, so…

Daniel: Because you’re lying to him.

Summer: Only by omission. I’m protecting him. I’m protecting our marriage.

[ Sighs ] You’re right. It’s gonna get a lot more difficult now that diane has decided to stay and drag my husband even deeper into her mess. I don’t know how much longer kyle can just ignore the havoc that she’s caused before his blindness about his mother starts to come between us.

[ Door closes ]

Diane: I’ve unpacked. Hopefully everyone will think that I’ve returned to genoa city to be with jeremy stark.

Kyle: Did you see him?

Diane: No, not yet. I just wanted to get back here to reassure you guys that I’m okay.

Kyle: You need to know that even though I hate this plan, I’ve got your back. I’ll do whatever you need, help however I can.

Diane: I couldn’t ask for a better son.

Kyle: I couldn’t ask for a better mom. Now that you’re okay, I’m gonna go check on harrison.

Diane: Okay.

Jack: I can see that this is already wearing on you.

Diane: Mm. Well, I need to keep my game face on and, uh, not be so transparent with jeremy if I’m going to pull this off.

Jack: Which is all the more reason you should rely on me. What you’re doing isn’t easy. You can let your guard down with me.

Diane: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: You can talk about this, identify problems, hone the plan…

Diane: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: …Find the perfect way to get jeremy stark out of your life for good.

Diane: Thank you, jack, for everything.

[ Door opens ]

Ashley: Come on.

[ Door slams ] I mean, really, what is going on?

Jack: [ Sighs ]

Sharon: Thank you. You know, it’s been quiet around the house with Faith being away, but I know she is having the time of her life in Europe.

Noah: When did she get so old? I feel like just last week Faith was this little girl getting lost in the woods, needing to be rescued.

Nick: That’s what happens when you get older. Time moves very quickly.

Mariah: But seriously, when did she get so sophisticated? She’s like a jet-setter now.

Tessa: And by “sophisticated,” you mean more sophisticated than us?

Mariah: Yes. Yes. I would love to be skiing in the alps.

Tessa: Babe, you don’t ski.

Mariah: I would like to be doing something in the alps.

*************************************

Mariah: Okay, I have to ask. How tough was it to get him to sleep tonight, on a scale of 1 to 10?

Nick: Christian’s a cakewalk compared to that dude.

Mariah: Wow!

Sharon: Oh, yeah, that is true. Noah, you were the worst.

Nick: The absolute worst. It took forever to get him to go to bed, and then at about 3:30, he’d come knocking on the door.

Tessa: 3:30?!

Nick: Yep. Some years I’d feel like I just got my head on the pillow, and he’d come in screaming and hollering, saying he was ready to open presents.

Mariah: So, how did you get Christian to sleep tonight?

Nick: Easy. Christian likes to know things. So, first we just kind of checked out, you know, online what reindeers prefer, oats to carrots.

Mariah: Mm.

Tessa: Carrots, obviously.

Noah: How is that obvious?

Nick: Well, you’ve done your own research. Then we checked out the Santa tracker. Christian realized Santa was still really far away, and he also knows that Santa doesn’t show up until he’s asleep, so he went right to bed.

Mariah: Well, hopefully he doesn’t wake up at 3:30 like his brother used to.

Nick: Oh, man, let’s hope. But as annoying as it was, it was also really fun. You know, it’s the joy of the holiday season. I’m sure Sharon can vouch for this, and you guys will all realize it someday, but there’s just nothing like seeing Christmas through the eyes of a child.

Nick: Thanks for meeting me. Sorry I could only fit in coffee today.

Sally: It’s no problem. I know it’s close to Christmas and you have a lot of family obligations.

Nick: Yeah, I got a lot going on. I’ll tell you, Christian is starting to ask me some pretty tough questions.

Sally: Uh-oh. Like, “what’s in the eggnog?” Or, “how do you make those little popcorn strings for the tree?” Actually, I want to know the answer to the eggnog question.

Nick: Egg yolk, milk, whipped cream, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. And then throw in some alcohol if you want the big-boy version.

*****************************************

Sally: You really are great at the whole dad thing. And your children obviously adore you.

Nick: Eh, it’s not always easy, but my kids are absolutely everything to me.: It’s Faith’s first Christmas away from the nest, isn’t it? How are you doing with that?

Nick: Miss her like crazy.

[Chuckles] But that’s the thing with parenting — you know, your job, if you do it well, is to send your kids out into the world, you know, help them be independent. And if they do that, success, sadly, is not having them around much.

Sally: Yeah. Yeah, I could see how that could be hard.

Nick: Yeah. I’m happy for Faith, you know? Getting to spend the holidays in the Swiss alps with her roommate is awesome for her. But it means I don’t get to have her here with me, and I hate that.

Sally: Yeah, it makes perfect sense.

Nick: You got to let them go, you know? And if you get lucky, they come back, you know, for a while. Noah’s proof of that.

Sally: Yeah. I mean, you have one son who runs his own nightclub and another one who keeps pressing you on the logistics of Santa’s mission. It’s a — it’s a pretty big age range.

Nick: Yeah. You calling me out for that?

[Both laugh]

Sally: No, no, not at all. I-I’m calling you versatile. A man who can pal around with his adult kids, raise his young ones, and knows the recipe for eggnog? Geez, man. Sign me up.

Nick: That’s a good save. I’ll take it. Each of my kids is an incredible gift. You know, being a parent is the best thing I’ll ever do. You know, I have to admit, I’ve never actually seen it up close, a parent who actually loves being a parent.

Tucker: Yeah, I did. I took a shower earlier, but in between, I grabbed a workout. The gym here is unbelievable. Have you seen it?

Ashley: No, I haven’t had the pleasure.

Tucker: Yeah, sometimes i take multiple showers in a day. Please don’t tell my, uh, water-conservationist friends.

Ashley: Yeah. Okay. Your secret is safe with me.

Tucker: You know what I love? You remembered that intimate detail from our conversation. Did it spark any memories?

Ashley: Of what?

Tucker: Uh, maybe you and me in the shower years ago?

Ashley: No.

Audra: You know, it’s not exactly in my job description to hide in bathrooms. But I guess neither is our “colleagues with benefits” arrangement.

Tucker: I appreciate your discretion. Thank you. So, uh, before we… you were talking about striking out on your own.

Audra: I was. But after seeing how you handled Ashley Abbott, maybe you’re not so far from, you know, achieving your personal goal, which means that you’re one step closer to getting what you want on the business front, too. Perhaps I underestimated you.

Tucker: Wouldn’t be the first time, would it? Hey. Stick with me. If you do, I promise you I’ll get you that reward you dese

Chloe Will you quit monopolizing my business partner’s time? Can you not tell how busy we are?

Nick: Okay, okay, I can take a hint.

Update written by Barbara

On the patio of Crimson Lights, Danny gives Daniel some words of encouragement and mentions that he shouldn’t feel that he needs to push back his emotions. Father and son hug as Danny prepares to head to the airport.

After Daniel leaves and Danny is still at the coffeehouse, Christine comes by to meet with Mariah and Tessa about their impending meeting with Delphine, the woman whose baby they might wind up adopting.  Danny agrees to stick around so he and Christine can talk after she finishes with her meeting with Mariah and Tessa. Danny can’t help but listen in to part of Christine’s conversation with the prospective new parents, telling them to put themselves forward and speak from the heart.

Hearing this, Danny flashes back to both good times and turbulent times during his past with Christine.  When Christine joins him at the Crimson Lights patio, she lets Danny know she is not pleased about Phyllis’s post on social media with theof her with Danny and Daniel.

Christine mentions that she didn’t know that Phyllis and Daniel are still in such close touch over the years. Danny downplays things and says they’re not really very close, just teammates and co-parents. Christine continues, going on about being unable to fortie of for    she literally almost caused Christine her life.

Danny says he is sorry about the pain Phyllis caused her and takes her hand in his. Christine says they were both adversely affected by Phyllis and she’s glad they were able to move on and find happiness, even though they didn’t find it together. Danny comments about her marriage to Paul approaching ten years and the deep connection Christine and Paul have and he’s really happy that things are going well for her.

Christine asks Danny if he has anyone special in his life and he tells her that he is seeing someone on a casual basis for now. He is quick to let Christine know that he always has room in his life for a dear friend.

They agree to stay more in touch and Christine says that she and Paul will come to see one of Danny’s concerts in Chicago. Both she and Dannt feel that they have more to talk about so he takes Christine up on her offer to give him a ride to the airport.

At Newman Media, Nate and Victoria are having a meeting and he notices that Victoria seems off and just not quite herself. Nate offers to get them coffee from the breakroom and listen to whatever Victoria wants to share. She opens up in a general way, saying that there are some very complicated factors going on with Johnny.

Nate mentions that although he’s not a parent himself, he was a child once, and did plenty of things that displeased his parents.  He encourages Victoria to give Johnny some space and in doing so, she might be able to prevent him from pulling away.

Billy comes by Chelsea’s apartment, claiming to be there for an update on Connor’s school project with the egg drop device. However, Chelsea senses that Billy is distracted and unhappy. Eventually, he tells Chelsea that Lily thinks that she and he may be done, and Chelsea becomes alarmed and worried that the rift  in his relationship with Lily is due to Billy spending too much time with her.

As a result, Chelsea strongly suggests to Billy that he meet with Lily and let her know how much she means to him.  Chelsea tells Billy that she got a second chance, now he deserves one. With Chelsea’s encouragement, Billy texts Lily to ask if they can get together.

Meanwhile, Lily is at Society, where she runs into Nick and joins him at a table. Lily is cautious about telling him anything regarding her relationship with Billy, seeing as how Billy had been Nick’s brother-in-law at one point. So, Billy and Nick have small talk, talking about how their holidays were.

Nick then apologizes for Newman Media’s decision to fire Sally and instate Nate as CEO with the company. Lily lets him know that it’s fine because she knows he was not involved with what happened with Nate and Victoria. Nick doesn’t mention anything specific, but Lily says that his silence is giving her answers about the overall situation.  She lets him know that when she gets hurt, she can roll with it. Nick asks if they’re talking about Nate or Billy at that point. He offers to listen to whatever is troubling her but she declines.

After Nick leaves, Lily gets a text notification on her phone. It’s from Billy, saying that he wants to meet up with her. She agrees to get together with him at the Glam Club. When they are there, Billy tells her that he wants to save their relationship. After some tense words between him and Lily, he admits that he messed up.

He tells her that he will do anything that needs to be done to salvage their relationship, saying that he will make an appointment for couples counseling and do anything else Lily requests. She and Billy agree to improve their relationship rather than abandoning it.

At her apartment, Chelsea gets a text from Connor asking if they can have pizza with Johnny that week. Chelsea starts typing a text about it to Billy, but deletes what she had been typing. Instead, she texts Victoria to ask her about it. When Victoria gets Chelsea’s text asking if Johnny could join her and Connor for pizza sometime, Victoria doesn’t want that. So, she starts typing a reply to Chelsea, saying that Johnny has too much homework.  Victoria hesitates, then changes her mind and deletes what she was typing. Instead she lets Chelsea know that she will get back to her about setting up a night that works for all of them.

Young & The Restless Update

Y&R logo

Update written by Barbara

At Crimson Lights, Jack and Adam are sitting at a table talking, and Jack tells Adam that he has accomplished quite a lot at Jabot in the short time he has been there. Adam downplays Jack’s compliments, saying that his work has been adequate and it’s not that big of a deal.

Jeremy comes into the coffeehouse and heads over to the patio. Adam notices how Jack starts looking uncomfortable and asks Jack if he knows “that guy”. Without saying who Jeremy is, Jack tells Adam that the man is a thorn in his side. When Adam asks if it’s business or personal says it’s the latter. He mentions  that the man is someone Diane used to know.

Adam is intrigued and asks if he’s an old flame of Diane’s. Jack says it’s nothing like that and lavishes praise on Diane, saying that she has been forthright, admitted her sins, changed her life around and what she’s done is very valuable.

Adam observes that Jack is very protective of Diane. Jack tells him that this is because she’s Kyle’s mother and Harrison’s grandmother. Adam asks how Diane got him to forgive her completely. Jack says that it wasn’t easy, but she came through and earned his forgiveness.  Adam tells Jack that he worries about Jack because he doesn’t to see him get hurt.

Meanwhile, at the Abbott house, Diane lets Kyle and Summer know that Jeremy bought her story about wanting to reunite with him. Kyle is not in favor of what she is planning next, it’s a huge risk, but she assures him she’ll be fine. As the three of them are talking, Diane gets a text from Jeremy asking her to meet him at Crimson Lights.

When Diane opens the front door to head over to the coffeehouse, Phyllis is there. Phyllis is shocked and appalled that Diane is back. She asks if Diane ever really left. Diane deflects, saying that she has to be somewhere, and leaves.

Phyllis asks what Diane is doing there and if Kyle, Summer and Jack have been lying to her about where Diane has been. Kyle tells Phyllis it’s none of her business. Phyllis counters that it is her business, with all the lying that’s been going on.

Phyllis lets Summer know that she came to the Abbott house to see and talk to her because she doesn’t like how things are between them. Phyllis chokes back tears, mentioning to Kyle and Summer that she has come to terms with them firing her from Marchetti. She also reminds Summer that they did not see each other on Christmas, nor did Summer even call her. Summer knows this hurt her mother and looks uncomfortable.

Jeremy is seated at a table on the patio at the coffeehouse, having a heated discussion with Jack when Diane arrives. Jeremy tells Jack that he’s not sure he’s still interested in Jack’s cash offer. Jack becomes irrate and demands to know what changed. Diane enters the patio and says “I’ve changed”.

She and Jack then put on a performance for Jeremy, with her telling Jack that she’s back with Jeremy and she can take care of her own life.  Jack pretends to be aghast by this news and says he cannot believe that she would go back to “that criminal”. He shouts to Jeremy and Diane that they are each other’s problems now, and they better not do anything to harm Kyle, Summer or Harrison and storms off.

Jeremy tells Diane that he’s not sure Diane meant what she told Jack about wanting to be with him, not Jack. Jeremy says that he thinks she gave a great performance, and says that he needs more from her. He says that she has to take a loyalty test to prove her allegiance to him.

Jeremy and Diane go inside Crimson Lights where Diane is putting cream and sugar in her coffee. When she turns around, Jeremy caresses her cheek.

At Sally’s suite, Chloe has come over with the pregnancy test Sally requested. She asks Sally if she even got any sleep and Sally says that despite her anxiety, she slept all night, totally conked out, in her clothes.

Sally takes the pregnancy test and heads for the bathroom, asking Chloe to stay with her while she takes the test. She tells Chloe that she doesn’t want to be alone when she looks to see what the result is. Chloe is more than willing to stay around.

While Sally is in the bathroom, Nick shows up at her suite. Chloe answers the door and speaks loudly, referring to Nick by name and thereby alerting Sally that he is there. When Sally comes out of the bathroom, Nick he tells her that he stopped by because he wanted to check on her and see how she’s doing. She tells him that the soup and ginger ale did the trick and she’s feeling better. Nick invites Sally out to eat, but she tells him that she can’t because she and Chloe have a lot of work to catch up on since Sally had a “stomach bug”. Once he leaves, the women wait for the result of Sally’s pregnancy test.

Sally starts pacing while waiting for the pregnancy test result. Chloe gently tells her to calm down and relax. Chloe then looks at her phone and tells Sally that it’s time to look at the test. Sally picks it up and tells Chloe that it shows she’s pregnant.

Chloe is surprised that Sally is remaining so calm and how she doesn’t even want to try to deal with it. Sally says there’s nothing to deal with because her cycles have always been irregular, she’s not that late, and the test is unreliable. Chloe suggests to Sally that she is in denial, which Sally says is not the case. She then mentions that she is okay and wants some time alone to refocus. Chloe agrees to leave.

At Society, Mariah, Tessa and Sharon are reminiscing about how Sharon and Rey had their New Year’s Eve wedding and their first anniversary there. Sharon jokes around, saying it feels nice to get out of the coffeehouse. She says that it feels like that’s the only place she ever go. She also shares with them how she failed at cooking Rey’s mother’s tamale recipe.

Mariah’s phone pings but the text is not from Delphine, the woman whose baby might be the one for Mariah and Tessa. They have been waiting to hear from her. Another text comes in and it does turn out to be Delphine, apologizing for not getting in touch with them sooner. Mariah and Tessa breathe a sigh of relief because they had been worried that Delphine had changed her mind. Quite the opposite, Delphine says that she wants to meet with them the next day. Tessa happily prepares to book their flights.

At Crimson Lights, Jeremy is not sure that Diane meant what she told Jack about wanting to be with him, not Jack. Jeremy says that he thinks she gave a great performance, and he needs more from her. He says that she has to take a loyalty test to prove her allegiance to him.

At Newman Enterprises, Nick comes into Victoria’s office looking for her and finds Victor there. Nick turns to leave but Victor stops him, saying he wants to talk. Victor lets Nick know that he doesn’t want him being with Sally Spectra. Nick angrily tells his father to stop meddling in his personal life and let him take things with Sally on his own terms. Victor says that he can’t help but want the best for Nick, Victoria, Adam and Abby.

After leaving Victoria’s office at Newman Enterprises, Nick goes to Society, where he runs into Sharon, Tessa, and Mariah at the club. They invite him to join them and he does.

Victor goes to Jabot to see Adam and talk about Connor. Victor lets Adam know that he’s aware that he doesn’t want Connor living at the ranch full time, and Victor just wants Connor to be a bigger part of Nikki and his lives. Adam tells Victor that he will talk to Chelsea and work out a schedule. Victor comments that Adam is quite protective of Chelsea and asks if he and Chelsea are going to get back together. Adam says no, and that he’s just concerened about her welfare.

Just as Phyllis is leaving the Abbott house after a weepy conversation with Summer, Diane and Jack come in after her meeting with Jeremy. Phyllis angrily says that this is “the icing on the cake”, further evidence that Diane did not flee in fear of Jeremy. After Phyllis leaves, Jack tries to talk to Summer about the situation, but she tells him that while she appreciates his concern, she loves her mother and the two of them will work things out.

Kyle asks Diane and Jack how his meeting with Jeremy went. Diane says she thinks that he believed her and he requested some kind of loyalty test from her. She says that she has no idea what this could be, and tells Jack, Kyle and Summer that she will do whatever it takes to get rid of Jeremy.

In her suite after Chloe leaves, Sally throws away the bag that the pregnancy test had been in. After hesitating for a moment, she tosses the test itself into the trash.

Jack: You’ve accomplished quite a lot in your short time at jabot.

Adam: Ohh. Come on. It — it was adequate.

Jack: Nah, this is no time to be modest.

Adam: I made a few simple decisions to streamline our processes. It’s not that big of a deal, jack. You know, you don’t, uh, applaud the tenor for clearing his throat, do you?

Jack: [ Chuckles ] I suppose not. I take it that means you have bigger plans for 2023.

Adam: Um…I do. I do, and I look forward to sharing those with you soon. But I just… you know, as we begin this new year, I just — I want to thank you again for giving me this opportunity. You know, I was in a place in my life where I needed somebody to have faith in me, and you stepped up. I appreciate it.

Jack: It was a very easy decision to make.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Well, now who’s being modest? I know the rest of your family was very strongly opposed to the decision.

Jack: All water under the bridge, adam.

Adam: Well, you’re the only one I’ve heard from, so I guess I’ll have to take your word for it. Maybe all my haters are reserving judgment to wait to see how I do on the mctavish deal.

Jack: Oh, speaking of mctavish, there is a binder on my desk with hard copies of all the information you’re gonna need.

Adam: You know that guy?

Jack: He is a thorn in my side I can’t wait to get rid of.

Adam: Is it personal or is it business?

Jack: Personal. Someone diane used to know and had hoped to forget.

Summer: So, your plan is in motion?

Diane: It is. When I talked to jeremy yesterday, I made it clear that I wanted to rekindle our relationship, and that way he’ll think we’re getting back together and he will leave the abbotts alone.

Kyle: I’m still not crazy about this idea. It seems too dangerous.

Diane: Your father and i think it’s the best way to neutralize him.

Summer: And he bought that you want to get back together with him as a couple?

Diane: I know jeremy well enough to know that this is a game to him. He’s intrigued by it, and he thinks he’s in the power position, but actually I’m the one calling the shots.

Kyle: I am impressed by your strength, but you know you don’t have to keep up the act around us. This has to be taking a toll on you. I mean, did you even sleep last night?

Diane: A little. Enough. Look, I appreciate what you’re saying, but this whole thing depends on me convincing jeremy that I want to be with him. If I let my guard down, even for a moment —

[ Cellphone pings ]

[ Sighs ] It’s him. He wants to meet with me now.

Sally: I am so glad to see you.

Chloe: I’m sorry I didn’t make it back last night. I hit up a couple stores, but they were closed early because of the holiday, and then kevin called. Miles was wired. Bella wouldn’t go back to sleep until I got home. And then I called you, but it went to voicemail. So…that’s my story.

Sally: Yeah. I-I-I didn’t even hear my phone ring. I didn’t think I was gonna be able to get any rest last night, but I totally passed out in my clothes.

Chloe: Well, that’s what anxiety does. It’s exhausting. But the good news is… I got what you wanted. Your pregnancy test.

Sally: [ Sighs ] Thank you so much. You are a life-saver. I… man, I really hope this puts an end to my anxiety.

Chloe: Fingers crossed.

Sally: You’re gonna stay with me while I take this test, right?

Chloe: Of course. Whatever you need.

Sally: Okay. Thank you.

[ Knock on door ]

[ Door closes ]

Chloe: Nick.

Nick: Hey, chloe. Didn’t expect to see you here this morning. I guess we both wanted to know how sally was doing. Hope she got over that bug. Where is she? -What’s he doing? -He’s cleaning the trash cans.

Sharon: Good morning!

Mariah: Hi! Good morning. Good to see you.

Sharon: Mwah! You too. Thanks for having me.

Mariah: Thank you so much for meeting us for breakfast today.

Sharon: Well, it’s nice to get out of the coffeehouse. I feel like that’s the only place I ever go.

[ Laughter ]

Tessa: Well, you did so much for everyone at christmas. We felt like we should buy you some french toast.

Sharon: Ah, you girls are so sweet.

Mariah: I have to say, though, I am sort of surprised that you wanted to come here so close to new year’S.

Sharon: Because this is where rey and I had our new year’s eve wedding.

Mariah: Yeah. I just — I didn’t want it to bring up any bad memories for you.

Sharon: Well, I don’t have any bad memories of our wedding. We exchanged our vows right over here. And there’s where we celebrated our one-year anniversary. I may — I don’t know — shed a tear, but I have only happy memories of our wedding. This place makes me happy. I don’t want to run away from that. I want to embrace those memories, and I’m really glad that you girls are here to help me do that.

Adam: Well, you seem very protective of diane.

Jack: Well, she’s kyle’s mother. She’s harrison’s grandmother. That seems reason enough to want to look after her well-being.

Adam: I don’t know, jack. It seems like there’s a little more to it than that. I mean, who is this guy on the patio? Is this an old flame or —

Jack: You know what? No, this guy doesn’t even matter. No, the point is, diane has made the sacrifice. She’s done the work to build a new life for herself. That’s to be admired. That’s to be protected.

Adam: Wow. Wow. How did she get you to forgive her completely? I mean, that’s — that’s no small task.

Jack: Why do you ask? You’re just curious?

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Um…let’s say I’m — I’m asking for a friend.

Jack: So, this is just a case study for you. You’re wondering what her strategy is. Well…it wasn’t easy. She was completely forthright. She acknowledged her sins. She admitted her regrets. She did her penance.

Adam: Hmm. Wow, your capacity to forgive, it’s — it’s pretty admirable, jack.

Jack: I’m sure some would say it’s a weakness.

Adam: No, I — not to me. I mean, if it wasn’t for your forgiveness, I wouldn’t be here. So I’m grateful to you, jack. I just… you know, I worry about you.

Jack: Worry about me? Why?

Adam: I don’t want to see you get hurt. I think it’s notable that you have chosen to forgive diane, but you couldn’t do the same with phyllis or sally.

Jack: Oh, no, the situations aren’t even comparable. Look, my — my friendship with sally — and that’s all it ever was — was short. It was — it was a moment in the grand scheme of things. My history with phyllis [Sighs] Was epic and exhausting, a long road strewn with broken promises and heartbreak after many, many second chances. No, I can’t — can’t spend any more energy making myself vulnerable to her. It’s a one-way ticket to disappointment.

Adam: And yet you find diane trustworthy.

Jack: I have seen diane work hard to be a better person. I’ve seen her change. She needs someone to back her up. And I’m the one to do it.

[ Cellphone pings ]

Diane: I’ll be fine. Believe me, I can handle jeremy stark. And jack will be there, so there’s really no need to worry.

Kyle: Yeah, that’s easy to say, but I can think of a couple dozen reasons.

Diane: [ Exhales sharply ] Then wish me luck.

Summer: We’ll be waiting to hear from you and jack.

Diane: We’ll be sure and give you the details.

[ Sighs ] You have a visitor.

Phyllis: You’re back. Did you ever leave?

Diane: I don’t have time for this.

Phyllis: What’s going on? Trelegy for copd.

Sharon: Rey’s mom was so protective of that recipe.

Mariah: I think she was more protective of rey.

Sharon: You know, that may be. It felt like an honor that she trusted me with it. But I followed that recipe precisely! I made two platters of tamales!

Tessa: What happened?

Sharon: Rey took one bite, and his eyes got so big. He was like a cartoon character. It took him like five minutes to swallow.

Tessa: Oh, no!

Sharon: And, you know, he tried to pretend that they were edible, but it was a total disaster. I couldn’t even eat one of them. And to this day, I have no idea what I did wrong. But rey just said, you know, i needed some practice and we’ll work on it together.

Mariah: Well, he loved you for trying.

Sharon: He did.

Tessa: Rey was the best. To rey.

Mariah: To rey.

Sharon: To rey.

Mariah: You know, we should all follow rey’s example when we are trying to experiment in the kitchen.

Tessa: Yes. Positivity and patience.

Sharon: Two words to live by.

[ Cellphone vibrating ]

Mariah: Uh, no, it’s — it’s not her.

Sharon: Not who?

Mariah: Delphine.

Sharon: The woman who’s considering you as parents for her child?

Mariah: Yep, that’s right.

Sharon: She sent a sonogram to you on christmas day.

Tessa: Yeah, but we haven’t heard anything since.

Sharon: Oh. Well, her message said she was looking forward to meeting you. What happened?

Mariah: We don’t know. And we’re not sure what that means.

Sally: [ Breathes deeply ]

[ Exhales heavily ]

Chloe: [ Loudly ] Yes, she’ll be out in a minute, nick.

Nick: I hope she’s feeling better. How’d she seem to you?

[ Door closes ]

Sally: Hi. Hi. Nice to see you.

Nick: Nice to see you, too. How’s your new year treating you?

Sally: Uh, so far, so good. Yeah, the soup and the ginger ale really did the trick. I feel like I could run a marathon. But I won’t, though, ’cause, you know, it’s far too cold.

Nick: Good. Maybe we could get together for a bite or something.

Sally: I would love that, but this bug made me fall behind on my work.

Chloe: It’s true. We are, you know — we’re — we’re just really busy. We’ve got a lot to catch up on, and I don’t want to point any fingers at who’s responsible, but…

Nick: What did I do?

Sally: Will you quit monopolizing my business partner’s time? Can you not tell how busy we are?

Nick: Okay, okay, I can take a hint.

Chloe: That wasn’t really a hint. I was just two seconds from telling you to get the hell out of here.

Nick: Really good at taking obvious hints. Got it. Um… maybe I’ll call you later.

Sally: We’ll talk this afternoon.

[ Sighs heavily ] Thank you so much. I probably do not tell you that enough.

Chloe: No, you don’T. And you’re welcome.

Sally: [ Sighs ]

[ Exhales heavily ]

Chloe: All we can do now is wait.

Phyllis: I thought your mom left town because she was scared to death of jeremy stark. I mean, that’s what you told me. Have you guys been hiding her?

Kyle: I don’t think any of this is your business.

Phyllis: Oh. It’s not my business that you’ve been lying to me and everybody else in town? Why don’t you just say you want to protect your mom?

Summer: Mom, can we please not talk about this right now?

Phyllis: Okay. When you want to talk about it?

Summer: You came here for a reason, right? What was it?

Adam: Everything alright?

Jack: Yeah, everything’s fine. My next appointment just got bumped up.

Adam: Uh, well, I think we covered everything, right?

Jack: Yeah, you’ve got that mctavish meeting to get ready for.

Adam: Uh-huh. I think I have a handle on it, so I’ll give you an update later.

Jack: Good to see you.

Adam: Good to see you.

Jack: Stark.

Jeremy: Jack. Didn’t want to disturb you and your friend. But I’m so glad we have a chance to chat. I was wondering when I was gonna see you again. You did promise that second payment, incentivize me to leave town.

Jack: I did. It’s taken a little longer to get that much cash together.

Jeremy: Is that right?

Jack: It is the holiday. I think you know I’m good for it.

Jeremy: Sure. I understand. Don’t put yourself out.

Jack: I didn’t take you for a patient man.

Jeremy: I’m not. I just don’t think I have much interest in your offer anymore.

Jack: Whoa, whoa, whoa. What does that mean?

Jeremy: Things have changed.

Jack: Wait, we had a deal, an agreement.

Jeremy: A deal? A notarized, signed contract? I don’t remember that.

Jack: You don’t say “things changed.” That’s not enough. What changed?

Diane: I changed, jack. I came back for him. (Vo) red lobster’s finer points of fun dining:

Nick: Hey, dad. Where’s vick?

Victor: Hey, son. She and your mother are having a breakfast meeting with marketing.

Nick: Alright. I’ll stop by later, then.

Victor: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait a minute. Is that it?

Nick: Yeah. Why?

Victor: Just that you… seemed to have a lot to say about adam and sally spectra the other day.

Nick: Well, you didn’t exactly hold back.

Victor: Oh, did you think i would?

Nick: No, but I’m not proud that I lost my temper the way i did. Sorry about that.

Victor: I appreciate that. And I’m sorry for having told you about the dossier that i compiled on sally spectra, you know? But, yeah, son, I just want you to be successful and happy and all that, you know? And sometimes I guess I don’t know how to go about ensuring that.

Nick: Well, you could just let me figure it out on my own.

Victor: Oh.

[ Chuckles ] I never thought of that. So… being a father ain’t easy sometimes, is it? Hmm? I just am having conflicts with your brother, and I don’t want to have another one with you.

Jack: Wait, you came back to him?

Diane: Jack, you need to understand —

Jack: When did you come back to town?

Diane: Yesterday.

Jack: And you reached out to him? Not me? Not your son?

Diane: Could you just listen? This is the right thing to do. I was scared, and so I ran off. And I shouldn’t have done that. I left you to clean up the mess I made, just like I did all those years ago. You know, I understand that you offered to pay jeremy off again?

Jack: Yes, that’s right. I did.

Diane: Well, you shouldn’t have to pay for my behavior.

Jack: Oh, now you’re taking the high road.

Diane: No, I’m trying to make things right. Reconnecting with you and kyle and — and meeting harrison has meant so much to me. But you all need to move on without me. I don’t want to hurt anyone anymore.

Jack: You don’t think this is cowardly and hurtful?

Diane: And I don’t want you to worry about jeremy. We left a lot unresolved when our relationship ended.

Jack: You mean when he was arrested and imprisoned?

Diane: That’s right. But he knows now that I had nothing to do with that.

Jeremy: Diane feels it’s time for us to reconnect.

Jack: You can’t be serious.

Diane: We have a complex history that I don’t think you’ll ever understand.

Jack: No, you’re damn right. I will never understand that.

Diane: But this is my life and my decision, and I’m asking you to stay out of it.

Phyllis: So, diane’s supposed to be gone, but she’s still here. Do you not see a pattern? She was dead. She turned out very alive.

[ Chuckles ] You want to keep the spotlight on me? Is that what you want to do?

Summer: It’s not like that, mom. I promise you.

Phyllis: It really is, but it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter. That’s not [Sighs] Why I came here. Um… I didn’t like how we left things, so I just wanted to talk to you about it.

Summer: Neither do I. I hate all of this negativity between us.

Phyllis: I do, too. I do, too. And, um, I — I thought about all the reasons you fired me from marchetti. I just went over it and over it, and, um…

[ Voice breaking ] I just want you to know I came to terms with it.

Kyle: You have?

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. Yeah. I totally understand.

Summer: Mom, that’s a relief. I know that you are gonna be so much happier working with daniel, and I just feel like a little bit of space from all of this — it’s gonna be healthier for all of us.

Phyllis: You know what? To be clear, though… it wasn’t just me, okay? It wasn’t just me. All the hostility and animosity, your mom was with me all the way, okay? And I had my doubts about her. I had my doubts and suspicions that she was hiding something. And it turns out I was right.

Kyle: We’re aware she left out pieces of information.

Phyllis: “Pieces of information.” Okay. That’s a sweet way to say it. Your safety and well-being is all I cared about. Okay? So, it’s all good. It’s all fine, okay? Um…so I don’t work with you anymore. And I understand. And I just got — whew — so tired of fighting and being the lone voice against diane. And I think it’s just best for all of us that, um, I’m not at marchetti anymore. So, um, I felt really good about that. I felt so good about this… until I walked in this room just now. Listen, I’m done settling. Because this is my secret.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Phyllis: Seeing diane here just now — that’s a punch to the gut. Neither of you have denied that you’ve been hiding her. I guess it’s hard now to look me in the eye when you were deceiving me, right?

Kyle: Okay, there’s no point in trying to figure out who told the most lies or who’s most at fault.

Phyllis: Yeah, I don’t want to do that.

Kyle: You came here with good intentions, so let’s just try to stay on that path.

Phyllis: Sure, let’s stay on that path. Okay. So, um, you’re both mad at me that I lured jeremy stark into town, right? He’s a criminal. He would have come looking for diane whether I got in touch with him or not. He wanted to know who ratted him out, and he would have found her. So, if diane really wanted to protect the family, she would have left and she would have stayed away. But she didn’t do that. She’s still playing the victim. She’s putting every single member of this family in danger, including harrison.

Summer: You don’t know the whole story, mom.

Phyllis: You know, I don’t know the whole story, and i don’t care. I know this is killing you, summer.

[ Voice breaking ] I know you, and I know this is killing you. We didn’t spend christmas together.

Summer: [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: I didn’t even hear from you. I didn’t get to see harrison open any of the gifts that i got him. You said you were having an abbott family christmas, and i believed you. Were you with diane? Wow. I mean, your brother’s here. You haven’t seen him in, like, forever. We didn’t spend any time together, the three of us. I get it. Listen, I don’t want to go on and on about this. I understand what’s going on. Diane is calling the shots, and you’re both allowing her.

Jack: Wow, you are something. All this talk about changing, and you’re taking off with this criminal?

Diane: It’s what’s best for everyone.

Jack: Is he forcing you to do this? Did — did you threaten her?

Diane: No one’s forcing me to do anything. This was my decision.

Jack: If you think you’re gonna pick up where you left off with this man after taking his money, you are a fool.

Jeremy: Hey, hey, hey. Now, that’s enough. You heard her. She’s no longer your concern.

Jack: Okay, fine. I will go. If anything you do harms any member of my family, there will be hell to pay!

Jeremy: Are you threatening her?

Jack: Fine. I’m done. I wash my hands of you. That’s your problem now. And you stay away from my son and my grandson. You hear me?

Nick: I don’t want to fight with you either, dad. I hate it. There’s no reason to let this situation linger. There is a very simple solution to end it.

Victor: What’s that?

Nick: Just let me live my life. Stay out of my personal relationships. If I’m gonna make a mistake, then let me make it. There are gonna be things and people that we just don’t agree on. It’s inevitable. But if we accept it and move on, things will be a lot better for us.

Victor: Well, my boy, you don’t expect me not to care about you or victoria or adam or abby. I’m your father, and because I’m your father, I can’t stop caring about you. You understand that, don’t you?

Sally: I mean, the test is gonna be negative, right? And then we’re just gonna laugh about how I got worked up over nothing.

Chloe: It might happen like that.

Sally: Okay. That did not sound very convincing. Do you think it’s gonna be positive? What am I gonna do then?

Chloe: Those are all really good questions, but I think the most important question is, who is the father, adam or nick?

Sally: I really cannot think about that right now.

Chloe: Okay, well, this level of anxiety is really not good for you. So you need to just calm down.

Sally: Okay, well, you’re the one who asked me who the father was.

Chloe: Okay. I was just trying to prepare you, not freak you out.

Sally: I am freaked out, chloe, okay? The uncertainty of it all.

Chloe: Well, there’s only one way to fix it. And it’s time.

Sally: [ Breathes deeply ]

[ Sighs ]

[ Door opens ]

Chloe: Sally? What is it? – Bedtime!! – Bedtime.

Tessa: We are still hopeful.

Mariah: We’re just trying to keep our hopes in check because we’ve had the rug pulled out from under us before.

Tessa: So, we are up for anything, and we are gonna keep trying no matter what.

Mariah: I mean, the sonogram that delphine sent us — it made a huge impact because, you know, the baby isn’t just a concept anymore. She’s real, and she’s beautiful.

Tessa: Yeah. It’s hard not to take it as a good sign.

Sharon: Well, I’m here to do whatever I can. I’d like to help.

Nick: Good morning. Happy new year.

Sharon: Hey!

Tessa: Oh, hello!

Sharon: Are you meeting someone?

Nick: No. Just solo.

Sharon: Okay. Well, why don’t you sit with us?

Nick: Well, you are three of my favorite people, but I don’t want to intrude.

Mariah: Nick, sit.

Nick: Wow. You are getting bossy.

Tessa: Oh, no, she’s always been bossy. What?

[ Laughter ]

Sharon: So, how’s 2023 treating you so far?

Nick: Good. Um, I think sally’s feeling better, so I’m probably gonna see her later. And I just had a conversation with my dad that wasn’t combative.

Sharon: [ Gasps ]

Mariah: Wow. Imagine that.

Nick: Right? As far as I’m concerned, we’re off to a great start.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Wrong building?

Victor: [ Chuckles ] Right.

Adam: You know, if you’re looking for ashley, she might be down in the lab.

Victor: No, son, I’m looking for you.

Adam: What do you want?

Victor: I want to talk to you about connor.

Adam: Okay.

Victor: I know you don’t want the boy to live at the ranch full time, but I hope that you grant me and nikki a lot of visits with the boy.

Adam: Mm-hmm. I see.

Victor: You know he loves it at the ranch. You know that, don’t you?

Adam: I know. I know his grandparents are an important part of his life, so I’ll talk to chelsea. We’ll work out a schedule.

Victor: Ah.

Adam: I’ll handle it, so you don’t need to bother her.

Victor: You seem rather protective of chelsea.

Adam: I’m just looking out for her.

Victor: Are you trying to rekindle your relationship with her now that you and sally spectra are no longer an item?

Diane: I wasn’t prepared for a scene with jack like that. He’s normally so buttoned up and composed.

Jeremy: He was emotionally invested. It was inevitable.

Diane: You’re probably right. Better to get it out of the way now.

Jeremy: It was all very convincing.

Diane: What do you mean?

Jeremy: You. You were so passionate, determined to be with me.

Diane: Because I am.

Jeremy: [ Chuckles ] It was one hell of a performance.

Diane: What are you saying?

Jeremy: I’m gonna need more solid proof that you’re on my side.

Diane: I’ve already told you how I feel. What more can I do for you?

Jeremy: I’m just gonna put you to the test.

Summer: Mom, wait. Please don’t go. Let’s just try to figure this out. I love you so much.

Phyllis: Hey, listen, babe. I love you. I love you. That’ll never change, okay? That’s why this kills me, okay?

[ Door closes ] Look at this — the icing on the cake.

[ Scoffs ] You’re gonna regret this. I guarantee it.

[ Door closes ]

Jack: Summer, are you alright? What did we interrupt?

Summer: Jack, you know my mom and I are having some difficulties right now. We’re just not seeing eye to eye. I don’t want to talk about it.

Kyle: I think we would rather hear about how things went on your end.

Jack: I guess it went alright.

Diane: Yeah, he bought it, which is what we were hoping. And he wants to give me a loyalty test.

Kyle: What test?

Diane: I don’t know. But this is phase two of our plan, and we can use this to turn the tables on him.

Adam: It’s 100% none of your business, but chelsea and I are not getting back together.

Victor: Mm-hmm.

Adam: And I would never use her as some sort of consolation prize because sally and I are over. I get it.

Victor: You get what?

Adam: Why you’re so concerned with my personal life. Now that nicholas is with sally, I’m sure you wish we never broke up. Hell, you might even have been supportive of our relationship if you had known she was gonna be with the golden boy.

Victor: [ Chuckles ]

Adam: It’s funny how one’s perspective can change so quickly.

Victor: I primarily came here because I wanted to ask you to make sure that nikki and I can continue seeing connor every so often, okay?

Adam: Mm.

Victor: But having said that, I got to be honest with you. I truly wish that both of my boys — you and nicholas — had been involved with someone other than sally spectra. You have a nice day.

[ Door opens ]

Nick: I know it’s gonna happen for you eventually. It may not happen this time, but it will happen. I promise. And I know the two of you are just gonna be the best mothers ever.

Mariah: Thank you. And I’m sorry for being so bossy earlier.

Nick: Oh, no, it’s all good. It’s one of the reasons why i think you’re gonna be such a great mom.

Tessa: [ Laughs ]

[ Cellphone vibrates ]

Mariah: It’s delphine.

Tessa: Hmm? Okay, well, we’re prepared for anything, remember?

Mariah: Okay. Um… she says she’s sorry about not texting sooner. She wants to meet tomorrow.

Tessa: Okay, well, tell her that we’ll book the plane tickets, like, right now.

[ Both laugh ]

Mariah: I know that she hasn’t said yes yet, but this is the farthest that we have gotten. And it just — it means so much. This could be our baby.

[ Both laugh ]

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Chloe: Sally, what does the test say?

Sally: A — a plus sign. It says I’m pregnant.

Chloe: Wow. Um… that’s huge. I like how you’re remaining so calm, but when you’re ready, if you want to talk…

Sally: Uh, it’s — it’s okay. You can go. I’m — I’m alright.

Chloe: You don’t want to deal with this?

Sally: I mean, there’s nothing to deal with. You know, my cycle’s unpredictable. I’m not — I’m not even really that late, and… I mean, this could be a false positive. The test isn’t reliable.

Chloe: It seems like you’re in denial.

Sally: No. No, that’s not what’s happening. Before, I was overreacting, and now I’m fine. Really. We — we have a lot of work to do, and — and I would really appreciate it if I could just have some time to refocus and get my head together.

[ Sighs ]

Chloe: Are you sure you want to be alone?

Sally: [ Sighs ] I’m okay. Thank you, chloe. I owe you.

[ Sighs ]

Transcript provided by Suzanne

Is this seat taken?

Traci: Um, actually, no. I’m on my own tonight. Go ahead. Thank you.

Well, we’ll see if we can fix that.

Traci: Danny?

[ Gasps ]

[ Laughs ]

Chelsea: I think you’re on the right track! Keep at it.

Connor: Trying to save eggs from breaking is a lame way to spend new year’s eve. Can’t I just use the one in the closet?

Chelsea: How did you know about that?

Connor: I was looking for more bubble wrap, and there it was — a completely done egg-drop device. I figured you’d made it in case mine didn’t work.

Chelsea: Wrong. Billy and I just got carried away playing with the art supplies and were testing out your new project. You will be handing in your own schoolwork.

Connor: Fine. Be that way.

Chelsea: [ Laughing ] You’ll thank me later.

Connor: Billy’s cool, isn’t he?

Chelsea: He can be.

Billy: Hey.

Lily: Hey.

Billy: You’re just in time.

Lily: For what?

Billy: To celebrate the new year.

Lily: Here?

Billy: Yeah. You know, we could have went the more traditional route and went to a fancy dinner and went to the clubs after, but — I don’t know — getting dressed up and making a big deal out of it — it didn’t feel like the right thing to do this year.

[ Knock on door ]

Sally: That is a lot of soup.

Nick: I’m gonna hook you up. I got everything. I got soup, herbal tea, ginger ale. I got a heating pad guaranteed to cure an ailing stomach.

Sally: Wow, you thought of everything.

Nick: How you feeling?

Sally: I am feeling a little better. You did not have to go through all this trouble.

Nick: I like taking care of you.

Sally: I know this isn’t the new year’s eve you had in mind.

Nick: That’s why I went for plan B. Ginger ale bubbles for our midnight toast instead of champagne.

Sally: [ Chuckles ]

Jeremy: Thank you.

Diane: So, should I go on? Is my offer of any interest?

Jeremy: [ Chuckles ] Frankly, I’m surprised. I thought I made myself crystal clear. The only way to settle this is for you to pay me back what you took from me. Now, that’s what I would find, uh, desirable.

Diane: If only it were that easy. But as I explained, the money is gone. So, I have a better idea. And we start by laying our cards on the table, all of them.

Jeremy: Challenge accepted. You go first.

Diane: Alright —

Jeremy: Tell me the truth about the fbi. Did you turn state’s evidence to put me away? She is fearless

Traci: [ Laughing ] Oh, danny! Oh, my gosh, this is the most fabulous surprise. I’m so glad to see you.

Danny: It’s good to see you, too, traci.

Traci: [ Chuckles ] So — so, when did you get to town?

Danny: Oh, christmas eve, yeah. I spent the holiday with daniel and phyllis.

Traci: Oh. That’s so special. Can — can you join me?

Danny: I’d love to. Come on. Hey, let’s sit over here.

Traci: Okay. Here. We’ll get you one of these, too, okay?

Danny: Oh, please.

Traci: [ Laughs ] Oh, my gosh. There we go. So, how long are you here for?

Danny: Uh, well, I’m afraid it’s a short visit between tour dates, yeah. In fact, I’m staying here and just came down to grab a glass of champagne for new year’s eve.

Traci: I am so glad you did.

Danny: You look fabulous.

Traci: [ Laughs ]

Danny: Tell me. Alright, come on. How’s life treating you? I want to know everything. Don’t hold back.

Traci: Oh!

Danny: You’re holding back. Come on!

Traci: No, I’m just —

Danny: What?

Traci: I’m just marveling at you, at us, how we just sort of fall back into sync, just like we always did, you know?

Lauren: Wait a minute. What’s going on here? Are you two getting the band back together without me?

[ Laughter ]

Traci: Oh, my gosh! What are the chances?

Danny: We’ve been thinking about it.

[ Laughter ]

Connor: Could I just do all bubble wrap? Like, until it’s the size of a bowling ball?

Chelsea: I mean, you can try anything and see if it works. That’s the whole point of the project, right? You need to experiment, use your creativity.

Connor: Really? I thought it was to see how many omelets you can eat in a week. I mean, got to do something with all the broken eggs.

Chelsea: You’re a wise guy.

[ Knock on door ]

Connor: I’ll get it.

Chelsea: Okay. Make sure you ask who it is first.

Connor: Who is it?

Adam: It’s your father.

Connor: Dad. Man, am I glad you’re here. If I have to see one more messed-up egg…

Adam: Oh. What, uh — what did I miss?

Chelsea: We are working on a school project.

Adam: Oh.

Connor: I’ve got to figure out how to protect an egg so it won’t break when you drop it.

Adam: I see. Engineering 101. That sounds like a lot of fun.

Connor: If you say so. Mom and billy already made one that works, so now it’s my turn.

Chelsea: Well, you keep working on it. You’re gonna get there.

Connor: Billy made mom smile. So, that’s a good sign, right?

Billy: Just thought maybe we’d get out of our comfort zone a little bit, you know, see things from a different perspective, and from this side of the park, we’re gonna be able to see the fireworks perfectly.

Lily: I think the different perspective we need has nothing to do with the view. @A

Billy: I’m worried about us, lily.

Lily: Me too.

Diane: Jeremy, I swear i would never turn on you like that. I also know how furious you’d be at anyone foolish enough to betray you. And not to mention, remember i was living a lie. The last thing I needed was to draw any unwanted attention from the authorities.

Jeremy: [ Chuckles ] I want to believe you’re being straight with me.

Diane: I am. 100%. And I’m going to tell you something else you might have a hard time believing.

[ Sighs ] After you were arrested, i missed the excitement that you brought to my life. I tried to tell myself it was enough to be back with my family, but I’ve been kidding myself. I’m climbing the walls.

Jeremy: Hmm. I have to admit, I thought a lot about you when I was locked up. Angry thoughts, sure… but good ones, too, the times we shared together, before you figured out what I tricked you into doing.

Diane: Well, there were a lot of good times before and after I knew the truth. It was thrilling. It made me feel alive.

Jeremy: What exactly are you suggesting?

Diane: I want to get back that excitement…with you. I brought in ensure max protein

Sally: I appreciate everything that you’ve done, but I don’t expect you to sacrifice your entire night for me.

Nick: Trust me, I’m fine spending new year’s eve here with you instead of going to the glam club.

Sally: I appreciate the offer, but we’re taking things slow, remember? I don’t think I’m ready for you to watch me dribble soup on my shirt or turn green.

Nick: Do you remember how many kids I have? Nothing fazes me.

Sally: Okay. That may be the case, but I — I don’t like to show people my sick side. And besides, I’m — I have a thing about celebrating holidays.

Nick: Alright. We’re gonna work on that. As for tonight, I will honor your wishes and leave. But if you change your mind and you want some company, I’m just a text away.

Sally: Thanks.

Nick: And since I’m not gonna get a chance to tell you later, happy new year. Feel better.

Sally: Thank you.

[ Door closes ]

[ Sighs ]

Billy: Look, I know this whole ordeal with chelsea has thrown us off balance, lily. I get that.

Lily: Oh, god, billy, my issue is not with chelsea. It’s with you. I mean, tonight you were supposed to plan something special for us, and yet we’re standing here in the freezing cold waiting for fireworks that aren’t gonna start for hours.

Billy: I’m sorry. I know I should have planned something more. It’s just, you know, the week got away from me and…

Lily: [ Scoffs ]

Billy: [ Sighs ]

Lily: I mean, do I love that you have spent time with chelsea every day over the holidays? Of course I don’T. But I can understand it.

Billy: Really? Because I’m not sure about that.

Lily: [ Sighs ] Billy, I really feel like our issues started long before chelsea’s crisis.

Billy: I don’t feel that way.

Lily: I do. I mean, you’ve been going in a different direction for months, and I don’t know how we get back on track.

Billy: But we do, right? I mean, we’re gonna work on it. We start couples therapy next week.

Lily: Yeah, but I even thought that suggesting therapy was gonna be a wake-up call for you. And you haven’t even changed your behavior since then. And that breaks my heart.

Billy: Lily —

Lily: I mean, if you’re not gonna meet me halfway, then what’s the point? You didn’t even think that we had an issue when I brought up going to therapy. So, like, what, were you just gonna go through the motions then?

[ Exhales sharply ] I just… I realize that trying to back you into a corner to try to fix things — it was just the wrong thing to do.

Billy: It almost sounds like you think what we have is too far gone.

Lily: I don’t want to believe it, either, but I’ve been going over and over it in my head. And I’ve realized that we’ve always had work in common. And that’s what we had to fall back on when things got bumpy. And so now that that’s gone, it’s like so is the spark that we felt when we first found each other again.

[ Voice breaking ] And I hate saying that. I really, really do. But you know it’s true because without that glue, it’s like… we’re just two very different people with two very different goals. And I don’t know if we have enough in common to keep us together.

[ Gasps ]

Jeremy: Assuming you’re saying that you want to start things up again, that would be a huge risk.

Diane: On so many levels. But like you always said, risks make life worth living.

Jeremy: Why did you leave?

Diane: Alright. I won’t lie. I was afraid, and I ran on instinct.

Jeremy: [ Chuckles ] Oh, you’re good. But I don’t think that’s true. You took yourself out of the picture long enough for jack abbott to try to buy me off again.

Diane: Jack offered you money while I was away? That’s news to me. No, I — I panicked, and I ran on my own volition.

Jeremy: And here you are, not looking the least bit frightened, proposing that we start things up again, all very conveniently timed to coincide with my acceptance of jack’s offer.

Diane: Yeah. You can think what you like. I came back because I realized that it cost me too much the last time I left. And I returned to face you. And whatever deal jack made was to protect his family, not me.

Jeremy: So, you’re claiming you have no allegiance to the abbotts anymore?

Diane: No, no, I’m not saying that at all. I — I would hate to see any of them get hurt. But I also know that I can’t stop thinking about you. We have an unbreakable bond.

Jeremy: Even though I’m risky?

Diane: [ Laughs ] The excitement makes it worth it. Jeremy, this town is killing me. This quiet life I chose for myself is nothing like the way it used to be for us — getting away with things that nobody else could, staying one step ahead of the law. Come on. You remember how thrilling it was. And we could have that again. The risk and the reward.

Jeremy: This is a very interesting proposition.

Chloe: Oh, well, you’re looking a little better.

Sally: Come in.

Chloe: What’s all this?

Sally: Oh, nick brought over a care package.

Chloe: Ah. What a guy. Making time for a little bedside manner on new year’s eve? He’s just the best. What’s wrong? Are you feeling sick to your stomach again?

Sally: No. I-I just can’t get your comment out of my head. I’m just too caught up in the insane possibility that you might be right. The virus that causes shingles is sleeping…

Chloe: Okay. Back up. Which comment and what insane possibility?

Sally: The one that’s got me feeling super paranoid ever since you put the idea in my head.

Chloe: Oh.

Sally: Yeah. “Oh.”

Chloe: Okay, well, why are you so paranoid? I didn’t even say the “p” word.

Sally: Okay, yeah, maybe not, but it’s exactly where your mind went whenever you started in on what could be causing my nausea.

Chloe: Okay, I swear I never seriously thought that you were pregnant. I mean, are you having any other symptoms?

Sally: No. But I checked my calendar, and it’s not out of the question.

Chloe: Okay. Well, I assume that you and nick were careful, right?

Adam: If this was my project, I would want to use a combination of the materials, not just the bubble wrap. Really wow your teacher with your creativity. And I bet you would get a higher grade.

Connor: Dad, you’re making it harder.

Chelsea: [ Laughs ] Your dad’s right. You do have to put some extra effort into it, sweetie.

Adam: Well, uh, I didn’t want to overstay my welcome. I just wanted to wish you guys a happy new year. 2023 is gonna be great for all of us.

Chelsea: I have a feeling you’re right about that.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Connor: Cool. Johnny just posted a new year’s video. Can I go check it out?

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] Make it quick, please.

Adam: [ Sighs ] So, uh, is billy coming back later to do connor’s math homework or…?

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] I could tell hearing about our little project bugged you.

Adam: What was your first clue?

Chelsea: Adam, it was nothing. It was a silly diversion. It helped keep me from getting wrapped up in my own head.

[ Sighs ] Look at the bright side. At least connor’s so busy with this, now he’s not so focused on trying to force his parents to get back together, right?

[ Both chuckle ]

[ Sighs ]

Lauren: So, it is fenmore’s, marchetti, and jabot, all under the same umbrella — the perfect setup.

Danny: Wow. So, you got fashion, cosmetics, and the stores that sell them. You got all your bases covered. You’re brilliant.

Lauren: [ Laughs ] Well, thank you. And you know what? The new spokesmodel for marchetti is a musician named tessa porter. Maybe you’ve heard of her?

Danny: I have. Yeah. She’s a real talent.

Lauren: Good. So, maybe she could open for you one day or she could record a duet with you once her voice recovers?

Traci: Lauren, come on! What are you trying to do, get a bunch of free publicity?

Lauren: Well, why not?

Traci: Because there should be one day out of the year where danny just gets to relax and he doesn’t have to think about or talk about business.

Lauren: Traci’s still the protective fan club president. You’re not still the fan club president, are you?

Traci: [ Chuckles ] Lauren! Just a very dear friend.

[ Light laughter ]

Michael: Wow. This looks like homecoming week. Come here! Mwah!

Traci: Mwah!

Danny: Michael!

Michael: Oh, my goodness!

Danny: Happy new year.

Michael: Ohh, same to you! Lauren didn’t mention that you were in town.

Lauren: I just found out a couple minutes ago.

[ Both laugh ]

Danny: Well, I’m between shows and did a little detour to surprise daniel.

Traci: And us.

Michael: Oh, it is terrific to see you! How’s the kidney?

Danny: It is in fine working order, thanks to you.

Michael: Mm! [ Chuckles ] Well, that is excellent news. It looks like our new year’s eve plans have been expanded.

Lauren: And what better way to ring in a new year than with old friends?

Michael: Mm!

Jeremy: I have to say, you caught me off guard with this. I never would have thought you would suggest we reconcile.

Diane: Well, I won’t pretend it’s love, but we did get along rather famously. I miss that spark in my life.

Jeremy: And you’d rather have me as a friend than an enemy. Trust me.

Diane: Good point. And together, we could find a creative, risky way to score back the money I owe you.

Jeremy: If nothing else, it would make this coming year a hell of a lot more interesting and lucrative than my last six.

Diane: Is that a yes?

Jeremy: I’ll consider it and get back to you.

Diane: [ Exhales sharply ] Jack. How long have you been here?

Jack: I’ve been here the whole time. I couldn’t let you go through this alone.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Billy: We are different in a lot of ways, but I don’t see that as a negative. And I definitely don’t want to give up on us.

Lily: I don’t, either. I really don’T. This isn’t easy for me. But I have always been the pragmatic one, and that is what I’m doing.

Billy: What are you doing? I mean, what are you saying exactly?

Lily: I think we should take some time apart.

Billy: God. Lily —

Lily: I’m not — I’m not saying this is the end, okay? I’m not. I just think that we need to take some time to see what’s really left between us.

[ Breathes deeply ]

[ Sniffles ]

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Diane: I should be angry with you.

Jack: I know you wanted to take on stark alone.

Diane: Yeah, but you didn’t think I could handle it. Which I get. And now that it’s over, I’m — I’m grateful that you were here looking out for me.

Jack: For what it’s worth, you gave a masterful performance.

Diane: Well, I hope so. It wasn’t as effortless as it might have seemed, and i suddenly feel the need for a shower.

Jack: Yeah, I understand that. But as far as I could tell, he was buying your act. You were in complete control.

Diane: I’m glad you think so. But I can’t be sure that jeremy believed me — because with that man, anything is possible.

Adam: Look who’s back.

Billy: It’s none of your concern.

Adam: Oh, billy, the hell it isn’T. What is with this — this endless fixation on chelsea? I mean, did your new year’s eve plans fall through, or were you always planning to bail on lily to hover over my ex-wife at midnight?

Sharon: Mm!

Nick: What was that for?

Sharon: It’s your birthday hug, soon to be followed by a birthday brownie. You didn’t think I’d forget, did you?

Nick: No chance. Um, I know today’s a pretty significant day for you, as well.

Sharon: Yeah. It’s my wedding anniversary to rey.

Nick: Hope you’re okay.

[ Breathes deeply ]

Sharon: It’s hard. But you know what? I don’t want to dwell on it, especially on a night like tonight. It’s supposed to be filled with hope and promise. So, come on. Sit down.

Nick: Alright.

Sharon: Why are you not out celebrating your birthday or the holiday — or both?

Nick: Well, I had some big plans, but they got derailed, uh, by a stomach bug. Sally’s sick.

Sharon: Clearly, things must be progressing if you’re making “big” new year’s plans.

Nick: Oh, you know, after 30, birthdays are all just a blur.

Sharon: Yeah. That’s so true, isn’t it?

Nick: I didn’t even want to tell sally it was my birthday. She may have tried to rally, you know, no matter how sick she was, and she may have pulled it off. She’s a force of nature.

Sharon: Well, your face lights up when you talk about her.

Nick: Yeah, there were some rough times in the beginning, you know, with all the drama surrounding adam, but, uh, it seems to be over with. I like her. She’s, uh — she’s great. I’m having fun.

Sharon: I like seeing you smile. And I hope that 2023 brings us all a reason to smile like that.

Nick: Yeah.

Chloe: No wonder you’re freaking.

Sally: You think? Also, I am normally really diligent about taking the pill, but, um, I think that I have been a little more stressed out than I would like to admit. There’s been a lot going on and, I can’t believe I’m gonna say this out loud, but I forgot… a couple times.

Chloe: Look, I just… I’m just asking this just to be sure. You didn’t “forget” on purpose, right?

Sally: As in, trap him into a surprise pregnancy? No, that’s not my style. Not anymore, at least.

Chloe: Whew. Okay. Good. Sorry. I just — I know that plan doesn’t work out so well. Trust me. I know.

Sally: Yeah. Yeah, trust me. I know, too. The old me almost tried that ploy when I was back in L.A., But thank god I came to my senses.

Chloe: Look, my advice is — relax. I think you’re just getting ahead of yourself. You probably just have a stomach bug or whatever is going around. You just… you know, you just need to calm down and enjoy your soup.

Sally: I just — I don’t have an appetite with this weighing on me.

Chloe: I mean, can I just say one thing? It’s not the worst thing in the world if you have nick’s kid. I mean, he makes beautiful babies.

Sally: Yeah, I wish it were that simple.

Chloe: Why isn’t it that simple?

Sally: Because nick wasn’t the only one. If it turns out that I am… pregnant, the baby could also be adam’S. Can I return this love-hate relationship with cookies?

[ Laughter ]

Danny: Hey, I’ve got a concert in chicago in a couple months. I could get you all front-row seats.

Traci: Oh, that sounds fabulous!

Michael: Oh, that sounds like a date, yes!

Lauren: Oh, can we have dinner afterwards?

Danny: Sold!

Lauren: Alright.

Danny: Yes. Although, you know, I do have a lot keeping me busy right now. I’m writing some music for a project that daniel’s working on.

Lauren: Oh, really? That sounds intriguing.

Danny: I’m pretty excited about it.

Michael: Will you be sticking around long enough to see paul and christine when they get back from their ski trip?

Danny: Um…I’m not sure. Yeah, I, uh — I mean, this was a last-minute detour. I was supposed to see my son in georgia, and then daniel surprised us with his move back to genoa city. Uh, but, yeah, I mean, I — I do hope I get a chance to see cricket before I go. If she’s back in time.

[ Chuckles ]

Chloe: Okay. You need to take some deep breaths because you’re not thinking clearly. There is no way adam could be the father because you haven’t been together in months. It’s been months, hasn’t it?

Sally: Adam and I had kind of a moment a few weeks ago — for closure.

Chloe: Goodbye sex? Are you kidding me?

Sally: It proved to both of us that we — it was way too late to get back what we once shared, okay? And afterwards, we both agreed to go our separate ways. It was spontaneous. But that is why I can’t help but feel a little panicky.

Chloe: Look, I-I just don’t get it. I mean, after everything that he has put you through. And you just allow him to suck you back in, even for the sake of just closure?

Sally: I didn’t regret it in the moment. It ended a chapter for both of us. Unless it didn’T. I just — I have to put these doubts to bed.

Chloe: Well, for the sake of your own sanity, I tend to agree.

Sally: Will you go get me a pregnancy test? Please? I cannot go into the new year without knowing one way or the other.

Billy: If you’re trying to start something, I’m not in the mood.

Adam: Well, that wasn’t my intent. But I strongly suggest that you back off and leave chelsea alone. She’s having some good one-on-one time with connor.

Billy: [ Sniffs ]

Chelsea: Well, hello there.

Billy: Hi. What’s up?

Connor: Happy new year.

Billy: Yeah. Right back at you, buddy.

Chelsea: Connor was craving some hot chocolate. He’s hoping to stay up till midnight this year.

Billy: Mm. Well, good luck with that. Hey, how’d the little, uh, egg-drop contraption go?

Connor: Not as good as yours. Yet.

Chelsea: Busted.

Billy: Uh, alright. Well, you’ll get there.

Connor: Unless you can help me convince mom to turn in your device instead.

Chelsea: [ Gasps ]

Billy: Excuse me. Connor, that would be cheating.

Connor: I prefer to think of it as making the most of my time off. I’m supposed to be resting and recharging, right? Having to do homework is the exact opposite.

Chelsea: I don’t know where he gets it from.

Connor: I’m being logical. Please? Come upstairs. We can work on her together.

Chelsea: Uh, you’re welcome to come and join us. So, three hot chocolates?

Billy: Yeah. Why not?

Connor: Yay! I’ll go order.

Billy: [ Chuckles ]

[ Sniffs ]

Jack: I can get you some tea. It might calm your nerves a bit.

Diane: [ Sighs ] It’s — it’s not so much that jeremy rattled me. It’s that I’m ashamed at how weak I was, the — the — the way I compromised myself and stayed so long under that man’s thumb.

[ Sighs ] I mean, fortunately, I’m stronger now, partly because I did the work, but also because you’ve been so supportive of me.

Jack: I don’t know. As I remember it, I was a lot harder on you than you deserved.

Diane: Oh, I don’t see it that way. You’re kind, but you don’t coddle me. You’re never dismissive, and you don’t treat me like I’m this horrible person out to ruin people’s lives. No. I mean, the truth is, I — i like who I am when I’m with you. And that hasn’t been the case for a really long time.

Jack: I happen to like who i am with you, too.

Diane: [ Sighs ] Ever leave your clothes in the dryer

Michael: Five…

Together: Four, three, two, one! Happy new year!

Michael: Yes!

[ Laughter ] Oh!

[ “Auld lang syne” plays ]

Danny: Should auld acquaintance be forgot

Together: And never brought to mind?

Should auld acquaintance be forgot

and auld lang syne?

For auld lang syne, my dear

for auld lang syne

we’ll take a cup of kindness yet

for auld lang syne

Billy: Happy new year.

Nick: Happy new year.

Sharon: Happy new year.

Jack: Happy new year.

Next week on

“the young and the restless”…

Daniel: I had no idea that things had gotten this bad.

Summer: I mean, I have just been going along with everything that kyle wants for the sake of our marriage.

Daniel: So, what are you gonna do now?

Sally: Why are you being so nice to me?

Adam: I think you know.

Christine: Thanks for waiting.

Danny: It was worth it to have some time with you.

Update written by Barbara

At Chelsea’s apartment, she and Connor are working on the egg drop device for his school project. The device is supposed to protect an egg from dropping and breaking. While they’re working on the device, Connor lets it slip that he knows there’s a completed one in the closet because he saw it when he went to get his bubble wrap. Connor turns to Chelsea and says, “Billy’s cool, isn’t he?” She smiles and answers that he can be.

Adam comes by the apartment and Chelsea tells him that she and Connor are working on a school project. Connor explains the egg drop device to Adam, and tells him that Billy and Chelsea already built a device that works and now it’s his turn.  He tells Adam that Billy made Chelsea smile and says “so that’s a good sign, right”?

Adam sits down on the couch next to Connor and suggests that Connor make the device especially creative, really wow the teacher, and probably get a higher grade. Connor protests that Adam is making it harder. Adam says that he doesn’t want to overstay his welcome, and he just wanted to wish them a Happy New Year and says that 2023 is going to be great for all of them. Chelsea agrees.

Meanwhile, Billy is at the park talking with Lily about the sad state of their relationship. As they stand in the freezing cold, and Billy tells Lily that he’s worried about the two of them. Lily mentions that she is, too. He reminds her that they will be going to couple’s therapy in the New Year, but she is crying, and tells him that the spark they felt when they first found each other again is gone.

She says that they have always had work in common but now that this is gone, they’re just “two different people with two different goals”. She mentions that she doesn’t know if they have anything in common anymore and she thinks they should take some time apart. She emphasizes that this is not the end, but they have to figure out if there’s anything left between them.

Nick arrives at Sally’s suite with soup, herbal tea, ginger ale and a heating pad. Sally mentions that he didn’t have to do this for her and he replies that he likes taking care of her. She also pushes him to celebrate New Year’s Eve without her.

At Society, Diane meets up with Jeremy. He turns down her offer and says that he wants her to pay all the money she took from him.  He asks her about the FBI and if she turned state’s evidence to put him away. She says no, but Jeremy is leery.

Diane goes into flirting mode, telling Jeremy that after he was arrested, she missed the excitement he brings into her life, and that she misses that spark in her life. Jeremy lets her know that he has had angry thoughts about her, but good ones, too. He mentions that there were good times they shared together before she figured out what he had tricked her into doing.

Jeremy is caught off guard by her suggestion that they reconcile. She says that they got along rather famously and she misses that spark in her life. She adds that she thinks they can find a creative, risky way to score back the money she owes him.

When Jeremy mentions Jack’s offer, Diane pretends to be surprised about it and says it’s news to her. Jack is lurking nearby, watching Diane and Jeremy from the hallway leading to the restaurant’s kitchen. Once Jeremy has left Society, Jack goes over to Diane, telling her that she put on a masterful performance and that Jeremy appeared to have bought it.

Shortly after Nick leaves Sally’s suite, Chloe comes there to check on her. Chloe sees the things by the couch and asks where they came from. Sally tells her that Nick came by with a care package. Chloe waxes on about how great Nick is.

Sally tells Chloe that she thinks Chloe’s right and she could be pregnant. She mentions that she checked the calendar and being pregnant is a “definite possiblity”. She also lets Chloe know that she forgot to take the pill a few days that month, and it was not on purpose.

Chloe urges Sally to relax and calm down because she may not be pregnant, adding that she thinks it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world if she has Nick’s “kid”. Sally lets her know that it could be Adam’s child and Chloe says that this is impossible because she hasn’t been with him in months. Sally admits that she and Adam were together recently for closure, and Chloe refers to it as “good bye sex”.  Sally asks Chloe to get her a home pregnancy test kit.

At Crimson Lights, Billy sits in the patio, clearly miserable. Adam runs into him there and greets him with sarcasm, asking him what’s going on with his endless his fixation on Chelsea. Billy says that if Adam wants to start something, he’s not in the mood. Adam strongly suggests that Billy back off and leave Chelsea alone.

Connor and Chelsea come to the patio at Crimson Lights and she mentions that they are there for hot chocolate. Chelsea says that Connor is hoping to stay up until midnight this year. Connor asks Billy to come upstairs and help him convince Chelsea  that he can turn in the egg drop device that she and Billy made. Chelsea invites Billy to join them for hot chocolate and Billy accepts. Connor says “Yay! I’ll go order.”

Sharon and Nick get together at the coffeehouse and he is supportive when she reflects on how it would have been her and Rey’s first anniversary that day. It’s also Nick’s birthday, so Sharon gets him a birthday brownie. He tells her that he didn’t mention his birthday to Sally because he didn’t want her to try to rally when she’s feeling sick.

At the Abbott house, Jack offers to get Diane some tea to calm her nerves after her meeting with Jeremy. She tells him that it wasn’t so much that Jeremy rattled her, it was her feeling  ashamed at how weak she was, the way she compromised herself and stayed with Jeremy as long as she did under his thumb. As they talk, she says that she likes who she is when she’s with Jack  He says that he happens to like who he is when he’s with her, too.

Traci is sitting by herself at the bar in The Grand Phoenix lounge when Danny comes in. Traci is thrilled to see him.  He tells her that she looks fabulous and to let him know what’s been going on and to not hold back. Moments later, Michael comes in, clearly overjoyed to have Danny there for the New Year’s Eve celebration.

Lauren and Danny fill each other in on their business lives. Lauren tells him that the new spokesmodel for Marchetti is a musician named Tessa Porter, maybe he has heard of her. Danny says that he has, and she’s a real talent. Lauren suggests that maybe Tessa could open for him one or she could record a duet with him once her voice recovers. Traci pipes up and kids around with Lauren about her trying to  get some free publicity. Traci says there should be one day out of the year when Danny can relax and he doesn’t have to think about or talk about business.

After ringing in the New Year with Lauren and Michael, Danny and Traci sing Auld Lang Syne and Lauren joins them. Meanwhile, Lily is alone sitting on the park bench, crying and shivering in the freezing cold. When she gets a Happy New Year text from Daniel, she does not respond … Chelsea wishes Billy Happy New Year as he leaves her apartment … Sally stands in her suite looking out the window pensively …  Adam nurses a drink at the bar in an otherwise empty Society … Sharon and Nick are seated at a booth in Crimson Lights, having pastries and enjoying themselves, chatting, laughing, and toasting the New Year with mugs of coffee … at the Abbott house, Jack takes Diane’s hand and wishes her a Happy New Year. They lean in to kiss and the kiss becomes passionate.

At Newman Enterprises, Nick is in Victoria’s office telling her all about how well Christian did with his older cousins on Christmas Day at the ranch. Nick gives her props for how she is handling the situation with Johnny and Chelsea. Victor comes into the office, sits down at Victoria’s desk and tells her and Nick that he ran into Adam earlier and the conversation was disheartening. He mentions that the goodwill he and Adam had at the Christmas Day party is gone.

Nick tells Victor that Adam will never change. Victor snaps at Nick, saying that this is coming from someone who has become his brother’s romantic rival. He asks Nick when the hell he is going to stop cavorting around with Sally Spector. Nick becomes frustrated, says that he’s had enough of the conversation and walks out.

After Nick leaves, Victor asks Victoria if she is still attempting to acquire Chancellor-Winters.  Victoria informs him that she no longer has her inside source of information and has lost the element of surprise, along with her leverage.  He also mentions that he wants her to learn how to let things go and step back when situations arise that necessitate it.

At Crimson Lights, Sally is sipping herbal tea while flashing back to her date with Nick and being  sick to her stomach. Adam comes into the coffeehouse and saunters over. He sits down with her, sees that there’s something bothering her and asks what’s wrong.  He asks her since when does she drink herbal tea at this time of day when she has triple espresso for her afternoon pick-me-up.

Chloe comes by to talk with Sally about their fledgling interior design business so Adam excuses himself and gets a coffee to go. Surprisingly, like Adam, Chloe notices that Sally is drinking herbal tea.  Chloe chomps on a huge cinnamon roll that she offers to share with Sally, who turns it down and looks queasy.

As the women start preparing their business proposal for Chancellor-Winters, Chloe becomes concerned, observing that Sally is not feeling well. She wonders if Adam is upsetting her. Sally can’t answer because she has to get and up to run to the bathroom.

At Society, Summer and Phyllis talk about recent happenings in their lives. Phyllis tells Summer that Danny is in town and Summer is thrilled. She says that she hopes he’ll have time for a visit with her.

Phyllis lets Summer know that Daniel has offered her a job, then hesitates to say anything further. Summer can tell that this is because Phyllis has been hoping that Summer will change her mind about firing her. Instead, Summer tells Phyllis she thinks Daniel’s job offer is  a perfect fit for Phyllis, given her computer skills and gaming experience.

Summer says that Daniel’s job offer is great and urges her to go through with her tentative acceptance of it. Phyllis tears up and becomes very emotional, crying about how she has lost her daughter. Summer tries to reassure her this is not the case, but Phyllis isn’t having it. She leaves in a state of distress.

At the Abbott house, Jack, Kyle and Diane strategize about Jeremy and how they can get rid of him. Jack does not like that Diane left the cabin and returned to Genoa City with Kyle, Summer and Harrison. Diane counters that it’s of no matter because they must stop Jeremy. To asuage Jack’s concern, Diane reminds him that she got away from Jeremy once before, so she could do it again if she needed to.

In his suite, Jeremy looks at the briefcase full of cash that Jack left and flips through a roll of bills. His phone rings and it’s Diane. She starts setting a trap by telling him she wants to talk to him, but not over the phone, it has to be in person. Jeremy wants her to come over to his hotel room, but Diane says that it’s too risky, opting for a public place. Jeremy agrees to meet her at Society. Jack is not in favor of this but Diane is confident that Jeremy will take the bait and Kyle says that he thinks his mother will be able to pull it off.

Adam is sitting at the bar in Society when Nick comes in. Nick gives Adam props for doing an excellent job at Newman Media and setting a solid foundation there for Sally. The men share beers and talk about tricky things that are part of being a Newman, with their father feeling he has to put his fingerprint on every part of their lives. Later, Adam goes for a walk in the park and flashes back to his conversation with Victor and how Victor told him that he’s nothing.

Over at Crimson Lights, Sally apologizes to Chloe for having to leave and get to the bathroom. Chloe leans in and asks Sally if she could be … and stops her sentence. Sally knows what Chloe is implying and tells her there is no way she could be.

Diane meets with Jeremy at Society and immediately starts fake flirting with him. Jack lurks near the entrance to the kitchen watching with an expression of grave concern on his face.

When Sally returns to her suite feeling sick, she takes out her phone to look at the calendar, and becomes deep in thought. There’s a knock on the door and it’s Nick arriving for their date. He reminds her that they’re supposed to have drinks. Sally tells him she can’t make it because she’s feeling under the weather.

Jeremy is seated at Society, looking at his phone when Diane comes in and joins him. She tells him she is there to broker a truce and she can do something to settle her debt and wipe the slate clean. Jeremy asks her what that would be, as Jack lurks near the hall leading to the restaurant’s kitchen.

Transcript provided by Suzanne

Nick: I wish I’d filmed that kid during christmas. Did you see how hard christian was trying to keep up with all the big kids?

Victoria: Yes, I did. From what I could tell, he did a fantastic job. You know when all the cousins get together, watch out.

Nick: After all the ice skating and snowball fights and the constant running around, by the time I got him home, he was talking to me — mid-sentence, he falls asleep.

Victoria: [ Chuckling ] You’re kidding me.

Nick: I think I’m more curious about how you’re dealing with it.

Victor: Hi.

Victoria: Is something wrong?

Victor: [ Sighs ] At christmastime, you asked me to have a conversation with mcfadden, right?

Victoria: Is everything okay?

Victor: Yeah.

Nick: I think she’s asking because it seems like maybe you didn’t get what you wanted for christmas.

Victor: I didn’T.

Nick: What’s wrong?

Victor: Nothing. Really.

Victoria: Oh, come on, dad. You can tell us.

Victor: [ Sighs ]

Sally: [ Exhales sharply ]

Nick: I feel real good about my gift choice for you.

Sally: Oh. Good. Me too. You’re really gonna love your coffee mug. It’s got a really funny quote on it. I would tell you what it says, but I don’t want to ruin the surprise, you know?

Nick: Yeah. Okay. Well, I know you’re just gonna love your book of sudoku. I mean, it’s hours of entertainment.

Sally: Ooh. It’s snowing.

Nick: Wow.

Sally: [ Chuckles ]

Nick: Seems like, uh, perfect timing.

Adam: Hey. Can you stand some company?

Sally: It’s the holidays, and I’m feeling generous.

Adam: [ Clears throat ] So, remind me — which holiday did you celebrate while, um, the rest of us merrymakers were sipping our eggnog?

Sally: How was your christmas?

Adam: Connor had a blast. Got a lot of gifts he wanted.

Sally: What about you?

Adam: I spent the day with my family, biting my tongue the whole time. But being with connor made it worth it.

Sally: Kids.

Adam: Mm-hmm. What about you? How was yours?

Sally: It was good. Quiet.

Adam: What is going on with you?

Jack: I just checked in on harrison. He is sound asleep.

Kyle: Yeah, long car rides always seem to knock him out.

Jack: So, where is summer?

Kyle: She went to wish phyllis a belated merry christmas.

Jack: So the three of us can talk. Look, as thrilled as I am you had a wonderful holiday gathering…

Kyle: Oh, it was incredible.

Jack: …I think we need to discuss your decision to come back to genoa city, diane. Whose crazy idea was this?

Diane: It was mine. Jack, I know the lengths you went to, creating a cover story and keeping it alive that I fled town because I was terrified of jeremy stark. But now I know that you’re not sure that he’s going to take the deal you offered him, how could I stay in hiding?

Jack: Look, we should have at least discussed this before you came back.

Diane: There wasn’t any time. We need to get the upper hand with this man now.

Jack: My deal with stark stands. I am following through with my part of the bargain. I offered to double my initial payoff. The money is ready.

Kyle: My mom has a different idea.

Diane: We don’t go to him. We make jeremy come to me. Can I return this love-hate relationship with cookies?

[Swords clashing]

Jack: I don’t like it. There are too many variables, too many things that can go wrong, given how unpredictable stark is, especially if he disbelieves your claim that you had nothing to do with him being sent to prison.

Diane: I got away from him once before, and I will never let him control me again now that I have my family back.

Jack: I don’t see how this is gonna work out.

Diane: It’s our only option.

Jack: Kyle, reason with her, please.

Kyle: I did, all the way back from the cabin, but she has a point. You said yourself you didn’t believe stark would take the money and hold up his end of the deal to leave us all in peace. I’m with mom. We have to stop playing defense, and I think that she can pull this off…but not alone.

Diane: Look, I understand jeremy stark better than anyone. I know how his mind works and what he wants in and — and what he’s willing to do to get it. And I can use that knowledge to set my trap, and I’m confident that he will walk right into it.

Jack: He’s not gonna take anything you say at face value. His guard is up. He’s already suspicious.

Diane: Jack, I’m asking you to trust me that I can handle this.

Jack: I will. But kyle is right. We do this together.

Sally: Why would you think something’s going on with me?

Adam: On what planet do you drink herbal tea at this hour? I mean, usually it’s a triple espresso for the afternoon pick-me-up.

Sally: I’m starting early on my new year’s resolution.

Adam: Quitting caffeine?

Sally: It is for the best. Believe me, it has been making me jittery.

Adam: Hmm. Well, I guess that’s a good thing because I would never hire a jittery interior designer.

Sally: Why is that?

Adam: Uh, because it would appear they had something to hide. Anyway, what’s new on that front? Unless you don’t want to jinx it, that is. How’s the new company going?

Sally: Chloe and I are still crafting a business plan for our potential corporate clients, like chancellor-winters.

Adam: Well, I am sure they will jump at the chance to partner with you.

Sally: Mm. From your mouth to jill’s ears.

Adam: I wish you luck.

Chloe: Oh, she doesn’t need it. She has me. And we have work to do.

Adam: Then I will leave you to it.

Sally: We just ran into each other.

Chloe: [ Chuckles ] Nothing is ever simple with adam. And you, of all people, should know that by now.

Victor: I just ran into your brother. And it seems the goodwill he and I shared at the christmas party has vanished.

Victoria: Oh. Well, that’s hardly a surprise.

Victor: He was belligerent and argumentative, blamed the state of his life on everyone but himself.

Victoria: That’s what adam does. That’s who he is. I don’t know why you would expect anything different. Look, dad, I know that family is a point of pride for you and that you want adam to feel the same way, that there’s something that you could do or offer or say that would make him respond, but he’s so entrenched in playing the role of the misunderstood outsider.

Victor: What you don’t understand is that he’s my son, okay? And I will never give up hope.

Nick: But you keep setting yourself up for heartache by continuing to reach out to him.

Victoria: How many times is he gonna threaten to change his name and leave town and never look back?

Nick: Or how many times has he said he wants to be better, to earn our love and respect? I mean, yeah, there are times when he does the right thing. He saved faith’s life. I will never, ever forget that. But his transformations don’t last long.

Victor: Well, I guess I keep on hoping for a different outcome.

Nick: He’s never gonna change, dad. You need to let that dream go, and this is coming from someone who actually wanted to believe that change was possible.

Victor: This is coming from someone who has become his brother’s romantic rival.

Nick: Excuse me?

Victor: When the hell are you gonna stop cavorting around with sally spectra? Trying to control my asthma felt anything but normal.

Nick: I understand you are upset about whatever it is adam has done, but I have done nothing but demonstrate my loyalty and commitment to this family.

Victor: And you make that sound as if it was a hardship.

Nick: I’ve had my reservations about joining the company, but I was able to overcome those because I wanted to put myself in a position where I can contribute on every level, where I can do everything I can to protect what you have worked so hard to achieve, and I will do that. You’ve given adam the same opportunities. What has he done with it? He throws it back in your face every single time. But you want to make this about sally? Okay. I’m not getting a lot of support over there.

Victoria: I think that dad has a point.

Victor: Son, if you won’t listen to me, listen to your sister, alright? There’s an inherent danger in getting involved with a woman of that ilk!

Nick: I won’t even dignify that with a response.

Victor: Did you even look at the dossier that I compiled about her?

Nick: I didn’t need to look at it. Sally gave me the highlights. She was willing to talk about as much as I wanted to.

Victor: Oh, come on.

Nick: But I’m getting sick and tired of you interfering in my personal life. And if you keep it up, watch what happens.

Victor: Be careful, son.

Nick: You know what? I look forward to spending even more time with sally so I can prove that the two of you are wrong about her.

Victoria: So, you’re going to continue to see her just to prove a point? That’s very mature.

Nick: I think I understand why adam is the way he is, why he turns down all of your offers at face value — because they always come with strings attached. I’ve stayed away from this company because of that, because of your incessant need to manipulate the lives of everyone in this family.

Chloe: Are you sure you don’t want something to eat?

Sally: No, I’m good, thanks.

[ Clears throat ] Um, as I was saying, if we could round out this pitch, then maybe we can give jill a taste of…

Chloe: A taste of what our interior design could do for chancellor-winters’ properties.

Sally: What is — what is that smell? I-I can’t quite — [ Sniffs ] I can’t quite place it.

Chloe: Well, it’s probably this. Do you want some? I mean, look at this ooey, gooey deliciousness. I mean, get a smell.

Sally: No. Really. I’m good. Thanks. I’m —

Chloe: Really? You want a piece?

Sally: I’m really full. Thank you.

Chloe: Okay. Okay, so, uh, where were we? Okay. Right. So, we have to walk in there and knock her off her feet with our design experience. And how do we do that?

Sally: I don’t know.

Chloe: Okay, I’m thinking that we do a mock-up online of a couple of rooms — an office, a hotel suite, a spa, a lobby. And that way, we can show and tell how our company can seamlessly reinvent any environment, from, you know, the — the textiles and the furnishings. And then we can show a number of color stories, you know, how, like, we’re loving, like, that warm honey, vanilla, and exotic ambers and — oh! — Like, a bright grapefruit. You get the idea.

Sally: Mm-hmm. Yep.

Chloe: Okay, out with it.

Sally: Out with what?

Chloe: Whatever it is that you’re not saying. Do you not like my ideas?

Sally: No, I — I love them.

Chloe: I mean, are you having second thoughts about launching this new company and starting a new career? Is it freaking you out?

Sally: Nope.

Chloe: Okay, so, then it must be adam that’s got you thrown, which is all the more incentive for us to get this company off the ground and get an actual office. And then you won’t have to worry about running into someone who’s gonna make you sick all the time.

Sally: I — excuse me.

Chloe: What is…

[ Sighs ]

Summer: Hi, mom.

Phyllis: Hey. Ooh. Hey. Merry christmas.

Summer: Merry christmas. Uh, I’m so sorry that we didn’t get to spend any time together. I know that that was our plan.

Phyllis: Oh, you know, plans change.

Summer: It’s just that kyle and I — we were so busy trying to make the holiday special for harrison. It was his first one with the abbotts.

Phyllis: Oh, wow. Wow. Well, I’m sure you made it unforgettable for him.

Summer: I bet yours was special, too, getting to spend the day with daniel.

Phyllis: It was really great. Yeah. It was, uh, filled with surprises. There were a couple significant surprises, um…

Summer: Oh.

Phyllis: Yeah. Well, the first one is danny came into town to spend it with daniel.

Summer: Oh, my gosh, that’s fantastic.

Phyllis: Yeah, on the holiday. Yeah.

Summer: Wow. How long is he here for?

Phyllis: Um, I don’t know. You know, he — he tours all the time, so…

Summer: Yeah.

Phyllis: Yeah.

Summer: I hope he gets a chance to squeeze me in.

Phyllis: Me too. You have a lot of family obligations, so hopefully he can — you can see him.

Summer: What was the other surprise?

Phyllis: Um — ah. Well, you know, the other surprise is, uh… daniel offered me a job.

Summer: Really?

Phyllis: Yeah.

Summer: [ Chuckles ]

Phyllis: Yeah.

Summer: Wow.

Phyllis: It’s really cool. Yeah. It’s, um… you know, he — he is heading up the — the gaming division at chancellor-winters.

Summer: At chancellor-winters. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He was telling me about that. He didn’t get a chance to give me all the details, but — wow.

Phyllis: Yeah.

Summer: Cool.

Phyllis: It’S… I can only reveal a little bit, of course. I’ll be, um, leading —

[ Chuckles ] I’ll be leading, um, the team of tech specialists, so…

Summer: That is so great, mom.

Phyllis: Yeah.

Summer: Wow.

Phyllis: Yeah. Yeah. It’s really cool. I’m beyond flattered, of course. It’s a dream come true to work with my son.

Summer: So, what did you tell him?

Phyllis: Well, um… tentatively, I said yes.

Summer: Oh.

Phyllis: Yeah. I just wanted to go over everything with you before I — I made it definite.

Summer: Ah. In case I wanted to reconsider firing you from marchetti. Welcome to my digestive system.

Summer: Mom, I hate that things have gotten so tense between us.

Phyllis: Oh, so do I.

[ Chuckles ]

Summer: I hate that it even got to the point where I felt like I had to fire you from marchetti.

Phyllis: Okay. Um, listen, summer. Um, listen. I, uh, loved working with you. I loved it. I loved contributing to your dream and this incredible company that you’re building.

Summer: I know. That’s why this is so difficult to say. I still think it’s for the best.

Phyllis: I don’t — I don’t really understand that, because diane is gone.

Summer: But this new opportunity with daniel — i mean, that’s the perfect fit, mom. You get to put your computer skills and your gaming knowledge to use. I mean, this is — this is good.

Phyllis: Is it?

Summer: Yes. To get away from the place where things got so complicated? Yes.

Phyllis: I’ve lost you, haven’t I?

Summer: No, you haven’t, mom.

Phyllis: Yeah. Yeah, I have. I’ve lost you. I don’t know what happened. I was so excited when you came back into town and, um [Sighs] Decided to put down roots here and we could work together. It was like I had my soul companion, you know, my — my fierce defender and the one person who understood me when nobody else in this town seems to, and — like mother, like daughters, you know?

Summer: Mom, you know how much I love you.

Phyllis: I-I-I don’t understand. It’s like you and your husband are still blaming me for what happened with diane. I don’t get it.

Summer: [ Sighs ] Mom, y-you don’t understand.

Phyllis: No, I don’T. I don’T.

[ Voice breaking ] Help me understand, summer. See, because this is the one thing I was afraid of. Let me tell you something. And I want you to remember this. Diane was chased out of town because of her past and her past alone. Has nothing to do with me. You turned your back on me. You break my heart.

Summer: Mom —

Phyllis: You break my heart.

Summer: [ Sighs ]

[ Cellphone ringing ]

Jeremy: [ Scoffs ] What a lovely surprise to hear from you, taylor. Oh. I mean diane. Old habits die hard, don’t they? Tell me — have you changed your name yet again?

Diane: I am sure you know the answer to that.

Jeremy: No. You haven’t had enough time. Or maybe you have a bag stashed, packed and ready to go in the dead of night, a secret escape plan for when this day came.

Diane: But is there anywhere I could go that you wouldn’t eventually find me?

Jeremy: You know me too well. So, why’d you call? What do you want?

Diane: [ Sighs ] Seeing you again brought back a lot of memories.

Jeremy: So you ran away?

Diane: I was afraid.

Jeremy: Of me?

Diane: Who else? You came to town believing that I was responsible for sending you to prison, but — you know, actually, um, this isn’t something that I want to talk about on the phone. Why don’t we continue this conversation in person and I can tell you what I have in mind?

Jeremy: Hmm. So, you’re here? Come to my hotel room.

Diane: That’s too risky. Uh, let’s meet in public.

Jeremy: Okay. Whatever makes you comfortable. Name the place.

Diane: Society?

Jeremy: Sounds good.

Diane: [ Exhales sharply ] It’s on.

Kyle: I’m going with you.

Diane: No.

Jack: It’s kyle or it’s me.

Diane: You guys, that would wreck everything I’m trying to accomplish. This first meeting has to be one-on-one. And jeremy is too smart to try anything while we’re in public. And I think he’s enjoying this too much to let it end so soon. But I’ll be safe. And if he takes the bait, we’ll — we’ll all be involved.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Victoria: Okay. Thanks a lot. Yeah. We’ll talk soon. Sorry. Sorry about the interruption, daddy. Where were we?

Victor: I was asking if you had abandoned your plan to acquire chancellor-winters.

Victoria: I have lost my inside source, the element of surprise, and not to mention leverage, now that I no longer have the shares that nate was going to provide us.

Victor: Interesting how you’re avoiding the question.

Victoria: Are you asking me if I still stay awake at night dreaming about ways to gain the majority share of chancellor-winters? Well, what kind of ceo would i be if I didn’t?

Victor: It was a good plan, you know. But now your plan fell through, my baby, for reasons beyond your control. So you must learn to let things go.

Victoria: Is that what you would do if you were in my place?

Adam: [ Sighs ]

[ Clears throat ]

[ Sighs ] You didn’t leave after seeing me here.

Nick: Maybe I’m looking for a fight.

Adam: Is there something you want to get off your chest?

Nick: [ Sighs ] Nah. Just some office stuff.

Adam: Mm. Over the holidays. That sucks.

Nick: Yeah. How are things at jabot?

Adam: Job’s fine. I go in, I do my thing, I leave. But sometimes I feel like I’ll never fit in there. You know, this is where the king of dad jokes should say something like, “adam, you will never fit in anywhere.”

Nick: First off, that’s not a dad joke. Second, that’s just too easy for me. And third… where’s the bartender?

Adam: No. Come on. What were you gonna say?

Nick: Alright. Uh…

[ Chuckles ] Actually, I was gonna say that i thought you did an excellent job at newman media. A lot of the things sally was able to accomplish are due to the groundwork that you put in place.

Adam: That — that sounded like a compliment. I-I assume that there’s a dig coming?

Nick: No. I meant it.

Adam: Alright. Well, um, what the hell happened to make you say something like that?

Nick: I don’t know.

Adam: Office stuff?

Nick: [ Sighs heavily ] Yeah. Uh… you know how dad does that, uh, manipulation thing, where he feels like he needs his fingerprints on every part of your life?

Adam: No. No, I have no idea what you’re talking about, nicholas.

Nick: [ Chuckles ] Well, I’m beginning to understand why you got fed up and walked away.

Adam: Let me guess. Victor wants you to cut sally loose.

Sally: Sorry about that.

[ Clears throat ] Um, where were we?

Chloe: Ohh. You’re really not feeling well.

Sally: I’m the picture of health.

Chloe: A scary picture. I mean, is it serious? I mean, can you keep anything down? Is the room spinning? Wait. Do you smell burnt toast?

Sally: Do you smell burnt toast?

Chloe: Are you hungover? No judgments. Look, I hate sounding like everybody’s mom, but we have a lot riding on this interior design deal, and any little slip-up is… wait, sally. Is there a possibility you might be…?

Sally: Oh, my god. No. Look, don’t be ridiculous, okay? Can — can we just get down to work?

[ Sighs ]

[ Wrapper crinkling ] When you’re ready to go, but static says “whoa.”

Adam: So, let me just make sure that I’m following along. You feel we have a certain kinship because victor asked you to stop seeing the woman that i proposed to. If you’re looking for someone to commiserate about the old man meddling in your personal life, I think you’ve come to the wrong place, nick.

Nick: Clearly.

Adam: Mm-hmm. You know, I actually agree with victor on this one. You don’t belong with sally. You’ll never love her the way i do.

Nick: [ Chuckles ] You know what, adam? I’m actually sorry that things didn’t work out with you and sally, but that was her choice. And that has no bearing whatsoever on my feelings for her ’cause I like her. I like her a lot. I like spending time with her. And there isn’t anything that anybody is gonna say that’s gonna change that.

Adam: Well, I wish I could believe you, but my instincts tell me that you’re gonna break her heart.

Nick: And by “instincts,” we’re talking about your jealous streak or your never-ending desire to compete with me, right?

Adam: Oh, yeah. Of course you would reduce this to a contest.

Nick: Hey, you’re the one who said I’m only with her to get back at you. Mm-hmm. Sally told me that. And you’re wrong, by the way.

Adam: I know you, nick. See, I see what’s under the “aww shucks” good guy demeanor, just so diplomatic, without a whiff of passion or desire. “I like sally. I like spending time with her.”

Nick: Is there something wrong with that?

Adam: Yeah. You like your doctor or your neighbor. But a woman like sally! I mean, what did you tell her? You guys shouldn’t rush it? Should get to know each other a little better? I mean, I’m sure you said all the appropriate things, making her think that you two have a future together, that she’s the one. But we both know she never will be, that that’ll never happen.

Nick: Well, what are you gonna do now? Bring up my history with sharon?

Adam: [ Laughs ] I didn’t have to.

Nick: [ Sighs ]

Sally: I am not hungover or physically ill from seeing adam, okay? Come on. Really?

Chloe: It’s happened to me. I thought it was a thing.

Sally: There’s a stomach bug going around, okay? It’s no big deal.

Chloe: Are you sure?

Sally: Look, we’ve already spent too much time talking about it, okay? And I-I-I refuse to let anything slow us down. We have a company to build. Are you with me?

Chloe: Every step.

Sally: Okay, so, let’s get down to the task at hand, alright? We need to know what impact supply-chain issues are gonna have on the materials and furnishings that we’re gonna need for an undertaking this enormous.

Chloe: Alright. Well, what’s more exciting than supply-chain considerations? Am I right?

Sally: [ Chuckles ] I have some numbers here.

[ Clears throat ]

Summer: [ Sighs ]

Kyle: Come here.

Summer: That was so hard.

Kyle: Mm.

Summer: My mom hates me.

Kyle: No, phyllis could never hate you.

Summer: Yeah. She does. And I don’t blame her.

Kyle: Okay, tell me what happened.

Summer: Well, daniel offered her a job at the gaming division that he’s launching.

Kyle: That sounds like good news.

Summer: Yeah, but when she told me about it, it was like she was hoping that I would ask her not to take it — because what she really wants is to come back and work at marchetti.

Kyle: You’re supposed to forget that she’s the one who contacted jeremy stark and told him my mom was the one who turned them into the feds?

Summer: [ Sighs ] Which, you know, diane did.

Kyle: Yeah, but phyllis didn’t know that.

Summer: Kyle, she’s my mom. I don’t want things to be like this. And what makes it even worse is I can’t even tell her what’s actually going on with diane. And now she thinks I’m punishing her.

Kyle: Okay, did it occur to her that maybe she should face the consequences of her own actions?

Summer: [ Scoffs ]

Kyle: Listen. I’m sorry. I know you want to find a way to heal this rift, but look at the way she’s turning all of this around, making you feel guilty, as if she was let go for no good reason and as if it was all up to you and my dad didn’t want her gone. And I feel the same way.

Summer: Still, I can’t help but feel responsible.

Kyle: Hey, you have nothing to apologize for. And the fact that Phyllis is making you feel like you’ve done something wrong, after everything she’s engineered, it proves we made the right decision.

Jeremy: Diane. I’d forgotten what a pleasure it is to watch you walk into a room. Please.

Diane: I hope you’ll feel the same way when you hear what I’ve come to say.

[Lock whirs, disengages]

Sally: [ Exhales sharply] [Sighs] [Breathing heavily] [Sighs]

[Knock on door]

Sally: Nick.

Nick: Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten. I was pretty convinced I was unforgettable.

Sally: [Stammers] Of course. I remember.

Nick: We were supposed to have drinks.

Sally: Um… I can’t. I’m sorry.

Nick: Oh, it’s okay. Everything alright?

Sally: Yeah, I’m just a little under the weather. I think it’s just something I ate, probably.

Nick: I’m sorry to hear that.

Sally: I’m sorry.

Nick: That’s okay. But I know just the thing for you.

Adam: [Breathes deeply]

Victor: You’re your own worst enemy, son. All the hurdles in your path have been created by you. What other than your son do you have? You have nothing, son. Nothing! And it’s your own damn fault.

Victor: Far be it from me to tell you how to run this company. You have done a hell of a job, I got to tell you. I’m proud of you.  We have grown, made bigger profits.

Victoria: Yes. Thank you, Daddy. Thank you for saying that.

Victor: But — but take a step back every so often. Take a deep breath. Look at what you’ve accomplished, alright?  And your next move — I promise you – will, whether you like it or not, reveal itself.

Victoria: Well, you know waiting has never been my forte.

Victor: I know. I know. I know. You’re my daughter. You want to go after the big fish, no matter how treacherous the waters are, right?

Victoria: Yes. It’s in my DNA.

Victor:  I know whereof you speak. But I’m telling you sometimes it’s necessary to take a step back, alright?

Victori:  Don’t allow that restlessness to prompt you to make foolish decisions.

Diane: I’m here to broker a truce.

Jeremy: And what would that involve?

Diane: Something I could do for you. Something that would settle my debt and wipe the slate clean.

Jeremy: Mm, something I would find, um… desirable?

Update written by Barbara

At Newman Enterprises, Nick tells Victoria about how well Christian did with his older cousins at the Christmas Day gathering and how he was exhausted from all the activity. He also gives props to Victoria for dealing so well with the situation involving Johnny finding out that Chelsea is his bio mom.

Victor lets Nick and Victoria know that he had a conversation with Adam earlier that day, which did not go well because Adam has no desire to return to the family company. Nick says that Adam will never change to which Victor replies that this is coming from someone who is competing with his brother       romance. He adds that Nick needs to stop cavorting around with Sally Spectra. Nick becomes frustrated, tells Victor that if this type of talk continues, he won’t like how things will be between them, and leaves.

Afterward, Victor lets Victoria know that he thinks she’s doing a fantastic job running Newman Enterprises.  He adds that he wants her to learn how to take a step back, take a deep breath

At Crimson Lights, Sally is sipping tea and flashing back to her date with Nick when they sat on the park bench and she started feeling nauseous. Adam comes into the coffeehouse, sees her and saunters over. He notices that she is drinking herbal tea and asks since when does she drink that because she has triple espresso for her afternoon pick-me-up. Adam notices that there’s something off about Sally so he asks her what’s wrong.

After a short while, Chloe comes into the coffeehouse for a business meeting with Sally so Adam excuses himself and gets a coffee to go. Like Adam had, Chloe notices that Sally is drinking herbal tea and wonders why.

Chloe is eating a huge cinnamon roll and when she offers to share it, Sally says no, that she’s fine with just the tea. She also mentions that the aroma is bothering her.

The women get down to work, preparing their business proposal for Chancellor-Winters.

At Society, Summer and Phyllis talk about the latest happenings in their lives.  Phyllis tells Summer that Danny is in town and Summer excitedly says she hopes he’ll have time for a visit with her. When Phyllis mentions to Summer that Daniel has offered her a job with his gaming platform,  mentions that Daniel has offered her a job with his gaming platform for Chancellor-Winters. Phyllis tells her that she has been hoping that Summer would change her mind about firing her and rescind the notice of termination.

Summer says that Daniel’s job offer is a perfect fit for Phyllis and is great, but Phyllis lets her know that she was hoping that she would change her mind about firing her and rescind the notice of termination. Since this isn’t going to happen, Phyllis tears up and gets weepy, telling Summer that she has lost her daughter. Summer tries to assure Phyllis that this is far from the case, but Phyllis isn’t having it. She gets up and leaves the restaurant.

At the Abbott house, Jack tells Diane that she shouldn’t have left the cabin and returned to Genoa City with Kyle, Summer and Harrison. This doesn’t matter to Diane as she says that they must stop Jeremy. Trying to assuage Jack’s concerns, Diane tells him that she got away from Jeremy once before and she can do it again. She wants to set a trap for Jeremy to get rid of him.

In his suite, Jeremy looks at the briefcase full of cash, picks up a roll, and flips through it. His phone rings and it’s Diane. She tells him that she wants to talk with him, but not on the phone. She wants to meet with him in person.

Victor asks Victoria if she is stll trying to acquire Chancellor-Winters. Victoria tells him that she lost her inside source of information about the company, and she has lost leverage.

At Society, Nick sits down at the bar with Adam. Nick gives props to Adam for doing such a good job at Newman Media and laying down a solid foundation for Sally there.

Over at Crimson Lights, Sally apolgizes to Chloe about having left abruptly to use the bathroom. Chloe asks Sally if she could be … and does not complete her sentence. Knowing what Chloe is implying, Sally says it’s not possible.

When Sally returns to her suite, continuing to feel sick, she looks at the calendar on the phone There’s a knock on the door and it’s Nick arriving for their date. He mentions that they’re supposed to have drinks and she cancels, saying she’s feeling under the weather.

At Society, Jeremy is waiting for Diane at a table, doing something on his phone. Diane shows up and he is happy to see her. She tells him she wants to broker a truce, something to settle her debt and wipe the slate clean. Jeremy asks what she has in mind, as Jack lurks in a corner in the hallway leading to the restaurant’s kitchen.

Transcript provided by Suzanne

Victor: Hey, son. Good to see you. Have a seat. Gives me a chance to tell you how much I appreciated you and connor coming by and spending time with us at christmas.

Adam: Well, thank you for including us…

Victor: Yeah.

Adam: …And not being too overbearing with chelsea and connor.

Victor: [ Chuckles ] What? Your father overbearing? When the hell did that happen? And I promised you I’d behave, and I did, right?

Adam: As I said, I appreciate it.

Victor: Yep. If you don’t mind my saying so, I thought that chelsea seemed a little fragile.

Adam: She’s going through a few complicated things lately, but overall, she’s — she’s doing well.

Victor: But, you know, I thought about it. Maybe while she is dealing with whatever problems she has, not necessarily a good idea that connor spends a lot of time with her, is it?

Chelsea: Billy, it’s me. I hope I’m not interrupting your post-christmas celebration. I was just wondering if you had any time to get together.

Phyllis: Say, “rock star.”

Danny: Rock star!

Daniel: Rock star!

Phyllis: Okay.

Danny: Oh, good note.

[ All laugh ]

Phyllis: I’m going to tag you. I’m going to post this, okay? I’ll tag both of you. Alright.

Danny: Can I just say how thankful I am that I had a break in between gigs and freed up my schedule to be with you for the holidays?

Daniel: I’m thankful, too. You know, being able to be around my family has meant the world to me at this time of year.

Phyllis: Yeah. So, you must miss lucy, heather. Did you call them on christmas and wish them a merry christmas?

Daniel: Unfortunately, no, I, um, haven’t had the chance.

Christine: “Genoa city’s very own rock star has returned for a limited time only. Glad to spend time with the people he loves most. We love you, too, danny.”

Danny: You know what? This married business — I really like it a lot.

Christine: Oh, you do, huh?

Danny: Yes, I do. Last year, this place was just an apartment. And this year, because of you, it’s a home.

Christine: [ Sighs ]

Devon: Lily.

Lily: Hi!

Devon: How you doing?

Lily: Good. Oh, where is my nephew? I want to see him.

Devon: Shh-shh-shh!

Lily: What?

Devon: He’s napping. He’s taking his afternoon nap.

Lily: Oops! Sorry!

Devon: It’s okay.

Lily: My gosh, I didn’t know he was sleeping.

Devon: Uh-huh.

Lily: Oh, my god. He’s so adorable! Did he have a good christmas?

Devon: Yeah, I’d say so. Got more toys than he has time to play with.

Lily: Aw, I know. I wish I had more time to spend with him. Christmas eve was not enough.

Devon: Well, speaking of family time, you’ll never guess who I spent christmas day with.

Abby: [ Sighs ] Hi.

Chance: Hey.

Abby: You should know, um, I got the divorce papers this morning. Can I return this love-hate relationship with cookies?

provided by…

Chance: I’m sorry. I requested for the divorce papers to be sent after the holidays.

Abby: I appreciate your consideration.

Chance: How was the rest of dom’s christmas?

Abby: It was good. We spent the morning with my mom and traci and uncle jack. And then, in the afternoon, we went over to the ranch. It was kind of crazy. All my siblings were actually together, so dominic got to spend some time with his older cousins.

Chance: That’s great.

Abby: Yeah.

Chance: All I can hear is what you’re not saying. I’m sure that you two also got together with devon.

Lily: I don’t know. Who did you spend christmas with?

Devon: I spent it with nate.

Lily: Really?

Devon: Mm-hmm.

Lily: I mean, last I checked, you two couldn’t be in the same room as each other.

Devon: Well, it wasn’t my idea, that’s for sure. Abby and elena talked to each other and tried to use christmas and the christmas spirit to force us into a truce or something.

Lily: Well, I mean, is that sincere, if you two were kind of forced into it?

Devon: Exactly. Who’s to say? I mean, if anything, it was nice to spend a day and not get into a fight with him. You know, just because before he started working for the company, we had gotten our relationship back to being somewhat decent after everything that happened with elena, which I thought we had both moved on from. But I was clearly wrong about that.

Danny: Look, I don’t mean to push too hard, but I am really curious about what’s going on with your family. And I know that lucy’s your pride and joy.

Daniel: She always will be.

Danny: And, you know, sometimes relationships with partners don’t work out. I mean, that happens, right? But that should never be the case with a parent and child.

Phyllis: Yeah. Hey, obviously, something’s going on. You know, you can talk to us, right?

Danny: Absolutely. And you can turn to us for any kind of advice, support, whatever you need. We’re here for you.

Phyllis: Daniel, you’re obviously troubled. Talk to us.

Chelsea: I like being here. It’s comforting, being able to see people’s faces. And I know if I get overwhelmed, I can just go upstairs, feel safe and sound in my apartment. It’s reassuring.

Billy: That’s good. And how are they working?

Chelsea: I just don’t understand why I can’t control it. Maybe I’m not working hard enough. I don’t understand why something as normal as a holiday dinner should be so difficult for me.

Billy: See, I object to that description. There’s nothing normal about spending any time with victor newman, even on a holiday.

Chelsea: [ Laughs ] Oh, I knew calling you was a good idea.

Adam: Chelsea is great with connor.

Victor: Uh-huh.

Adam: He loves the nights that he gets to spend with his mother.

Victor: Bet he does, you know? But I think it might be a good idea if he spent some more time at the ranch, away from her, giving chelsea time to deal with whatever she’s dealing with.

Adam: Look — I promise you. Chelsea is doing just fine.

Victor: Son, I hate to remind you that chelsea is very good at covering up whatever is bothering her. Remember how long she faked her paralysis before anyone noticed?

Adam: She’s come a long way since then. I think connor’s more comfortable having his mother around, and she prefers to have him with her. It’s the best thing for both of them right now.

Victor: Well, to be frank with you, adam, I wouldn’t mind if he spent some more time at the ranch, because then you would have to visit more often. And I think it would be wonderful if you spent some more time with your family.

Lily: I will say I am happy that you and nate were able to put your differences aside, at least for the holiday.

Devon: Yeah.

Lily: I mean, who knows? Maybe the three of us one day can get together and try to work. No?

Devon: No. You don’t need to do any of that. It was one day of us being nice to each other. You don’t need to make more of it. What’s — what’s happening with work? What’s new?

Lily: Well, I know you have your doubts, but jill wants to move forward with the ipo.

Devon: God. Why?

Lily: Why? What do you mean why? I don’t understand. What is your concern?

Devon: You know exactly what my concern is. We’d be giving up too much control of the company.

Lily: Yeah.

Devon: I’ve said this to you many times. We’ll be having to answer to a board of people that we don’t know and that we may or may not agree with. I’ve never been a fan of giving up something that we’ve worked this hard to build. I was just talking about this with tucker the other day.

Lily: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. I’m sorry. Tucker? He has a say in our business ventures now?

Daniel: Yes, you’re right. There is a lot going on, but it’s nothing that you need to worry about.

Phyllis: Okay. Um, maybe you and heather are having problems. Alright. You didn’t talk to your daughter on christmas day. I mean, what’s going on?

Daniel: Fine. Probably time that I come to grips with the fact that i failed both as a father and a partner.

Phyllis: No, I’m not buying that. It can’t be that bad.

Daniel: I wouldn’t be so sure about that. I, um, hit a bit of a rough patch recently. Hid it all from you when you came out to visit because I was just too upset with myself.

Danny: Daniel… what happened?

Daniel: My painting career stalled, you know? So, I got frustrated. I got bitter… sitting there watching heather’s career continue to grow and thrive. I just… I don’t know, just failed to handle everything properly, i guess. Should have been more supportive of her success and not resented it.

Phyllis: Oh, hey, come on. You’re human. I mean, we all have moments of jealousy.

Daniel: It’s not an excuse. I was seeing myself as less of a partner and less of an equal contributor, less of a father. I just… I got really angry. You know, I don’T… I don’t know why I was angry at stupid things. I was angry at little things, sometimes nothing at all. Basically, I made their lives so miserable that they just couldn’t take it anymore. Heather, she wound up taking a job in europe. Lucy, she got into this great boarding school that was right where heather was working and um… hey, I pushed them to the brink, and then I let them slip away, right? Eww, the toilet sneeze.

Phyllis: Daniel, you’re not a failure. We all go through rough patches, right? I mean, I’ve been through a few myself.

Danny: Coddling him won’t help. Our son knows he’s not a failure. But he did fail at being the kind of partner and father he vowed to be. But he recognizes it now, right? He’s coming to terms with it. You are working on it, aren’t you?

Daniel: Yes, I’m working on it. Of course I am. I’ll admit after they left, things got bad for a while. You know, I was drinking too much. I was partying too much. I was basically doing anything I could to keep my mind off the fact that I tanked my relationship and my career all at once.

Phyllis: Why don’t you let me know? I would have been on the first plane down to savannah.

Daniel: Come on. I couldn’t face you. Hell, I couldn’t even face myself. And then, you know, I really just kind of bottomed out. I was feeling lost and lonely. And this one day, I was digging through this box of games and trinkets of lucy’S. And I came across this video game, one that we used to play together when she was younger. And I just, you know, I got obsessed with it. It’s going to sound dumb, but it’s like I thought if I could just finish the game, I don’t know, maybe I could get back to those happier times in my life, you know?

Phyllis: I-I get this. I understand what you’re saying. I have been known to escape in video games myself. It helps de-stress me. So, I understand.

Daniel: Anyway, you know, as part of the game’s resolution, there was this message about finding hope by using your inner strength. It was simple, very simple, but just profound. And that was it. It was like a light switch, you know, a turning point for me. I…I don’t know. It set me on this path to create something mammoth and enriching.

Phyllis: Yeah. I mean, you wanted to turn your life around. It helped you with that. I get that. That’s what the grand phoenix did for me.

Daniel: Exactly.

Phyllis: Yeah.

Daniel: That’s when I came up with “finding princess louisa.” It’s going to be the debut title for the chancellor-winters’ gaming division. It’s for younger kids. But, you know, the gamer, they’re going to travel through this mysterious, mythical landscape in search of missing princess.

Danny: Like you’re missing princess lucy. Daniel… are you hoping this will bring heather and lucy back to you?

Daniel: You know, of course, I wish that I could have them back, but I have this new career now. This is going to be my way back up from rock bottom. I can only focus on and control myself — not heather, not lucy, not anyone. It’s just all got to start with me.

Billy: I’m happy to hear that you’re listening to your doctor. That should always be your first line of defense. But just know that I will be there waiting in the backfield just in case anything gets through. What I mean is I will always be there for you, just in case anything slips through the cracks.

Chelsea: I get it. I know football.

Billy: Okay. What’s going on today? Should we do something fun? Should we go watch a movie or go for a walk or something?

Chelsea: Actually, I had something else in mind.

Devon: No, I’m not letting tucker in on any of our business decisions.

Lily: But you’re telling him company plans and letting him act as some sort of advisor?

Devon: No. What do you mean, advisor? I’m just talking to him. I’m having conversations. I haven’t told him any privileged information.

Lily: Okay, good. I would hope not, because it wasn’t that long ago that you thought he was trying to steal the company from us.

Devon: I remember that. I do. And I was wrong about him, okay? I still believe that nothing is worth the risk of losing control of our company. We literally almost had somebody take everything from us, who we were supposed to trust, right? Can we not learn our lesson from that?

Lily: I thought we were past this.

Devon: Well, I’m not.

Lily: Look — jill wants to do this, okay? It is not a matter of if. It’s a matter of when.

Devon: And I think that if we do, we’re going to live to regret it.

Abby: We did stop by devon’s, but it’s only because i wanted dominic to see him on christmas.

Chance: No point in hiding it. I understand the guy is going to be around. He’s dominic’s other father. Plus, whatever’s going on between you is none of my business. I was actually hoping I could come by the house today and see dom. Is that cool?

Abby: Actually, dom’s not home. He’s still over at devon’S.

Chance: [ Scoffs ] Yeah, well, alright. Well, my request still stands. Guess we got to get used to this new dynamic, right?

Adam: I’m surprised that you would admit that outright, that you wished I’d come around more.

Victor: Son, I am too damn old to beat around the bush. I would love you to spend some more time with your family, alright?

Adam: Well, I’m not going to get all sentimental about a little holiday visit. I can assure you, it was purely for connor’s sake.

Victor: Right. If that had been the case, you would have dropped him off and picked him up later. I think you miss your connection with your family.

Adam: What connection are you talking about, father? The one that is tethered and severed, depending on your mood, where at any time, at the convenience of the rest of the newman clan, I can be dropped? There’s nothing I miss about that. I’m jonathan lawson Dealdash.Com the fair and honest bidding site. This kitchenaid mixer sold for less than $26. This I-pad sold for less than $43. And this playstation 5 sold for less than a dollar. Go to dealdash.Com right now and see how much you can save. You spend the holidays making everyone else smile,

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Danny: I am proud of you, son. I am. You took a pretty bad spill. But you know something? Character isn’t revealed through how we fall, but it’s through how we get back up. It’s all about learning from our missteps and finding your way to move forward. And that’s the beautiful thing about mistakes. It shows us what we still have left to learn.

Daniel: That is a good way of looking at things, dad.

Danny: And if there is any way that I can help you through this journey of yours, you just, just let me know, okay?

Daniel: Really? You know, I’m — I’m glad you brought that up, because there is actually something I could use your assistance with. You know, this game I’m developing, it’s going to need a score. I know you’re a famous rock star out there, touring all over the world, but if you can maybe find some time to write a little music for it, your number-one fan here would be forever in your debt.

Danny: I don’t really know if you can afford me. Okay, okay, a joke, bad joke. For you, we will work on a family discount. What do you say?

Phyllis: You better not charge him at all.

Danny: No, it’s a deal.

Phyllis: You can’t charge him at all! Oh, my goodness. You guys already have a hit collaboration. That picture I just posted, 5,000 likes. Wow!

Danny: That was quick.

Phyllis: You’re superstars.

Danny: I violated our commitment, our marriage vows, our love, and our trust. I couldn’t live with my own betrayal. But that was only part of it.

Christine: I’m listening.

Danny: The woman made some threats. She threatened to go public with the story of our affair. She promised to drag you into this whole thing. I couldn’t let that happen. I couldn’t do it to you, christine. This had nothing to do with you.

Christine: How can you say it had nothing to do with me? I was your wife! But, you know, you’re right about one thing. I did need to hear this. But the fact is, it doesn’t change anything. I can’t believe that over a year ago, I was all packed for new york. I was ready to leave my career and my job for the man I loved. And then you called, and you said, “don’t come,” that you’ll get back to me. Well, you got back to me, alright. You said you wanted a divorce, never a reason, not even a hint. Do you have any idea what those words did to me? The hurt and the pain, the utter disillusionment? And now you walk back in here, and what do you want me to say? “Hi, honey. I’m so glad to see you. Let’s pick up right where we left off”? The truth is, I don’t even know what your life is about anymore. Are you married or… you know what? Don’t answer that because I don’t care. I don’t want to know because it is over between us. It is — it’s over.

Danny: I said what I came here to say. Again, I’m sorry.

Christine: This pregnancy, um, was there a baby? Is — is there a baby?

Danny: Yes.

Christine: Do you have a son or a daughter?

Danny: A son.

Christine: Get out. Alright, just leave. Just get out!

Danny: You can’t know how sorry I am, christine. Goodbye. I want to be with you. I have always wanted to be with you.

Christine: We missed our chance.

Danny: We’re single. We’re both consenting adults.

Christine: Who have different lives very far apart.

Danny: Okay, maybe, um, maybe it’s not my most realistic idea. I would have shown you the time of your life.

Christine: I have no doubt. You have a plane to catch. Got to go.

Danny: Yeah. Good luck with your case and, you know, everything.

Christine: Okay. You too, huh? Okay.

Danny: Alright, you take care, okay?

Christine: Yeah.

Danny: Okay.

[ Sighs ]

[ Cellphone rings ]

Devon: Abby, hey. Dominic, mommy is on the phone.

Abby: Hi. Um, I actually just ran into chance at the park, and he wants to stop by and see dom for a visit.

Devon: Okay. Uh, sure. That’s fine. I can… I can take myself somewhere and have the nanny with you guys.

Abby: Actually, that’s not necessary. Chance thinks that we should get used to being around each other for dom’s sake.

Devon: Yeah, I agree with that, but I would just prefer if it not be today, if you don’t mind. So, I’ll go and run an errand and have the nanny get dominic dressed and ready for some hang time.

Abby: Okay. Thanks. Alright. We can go whenever you’re ready.

Phyllis: This is nice. I like this. I’m glad you were honest with us. I hate that you were going through this alone.

Daniel: You don’t have to worry about me. I’m strong, and I’m focused now, and I’m definitely not alone. I mean, I’m with my family. I’m with people who know and love and respect me. I feel empowered.

Danny: As you should.

Daniel: And now with dad on board, I feel unstoppable. I’m gonna make a success out of this business and myself.

Phyllis: Yeah, you are. That’s for sure. You’re my son. You’re confident, and you are powerful.

Daniel: You know, I’ve just got a few loose ends that i still need to tie up. Got to make sure I secure the right people around me. I’ve been patient. I’ve been waiting, you know, a few days now. But it’s time to move forward. So, mom, what is your answer? Will you come work with me? Who says you have to spend more on skincare

Victor: I know you better than you realize. You’re a newman. You love competition. You want to build something big. It’s in your blood.

Adam: Where is this going, dad?

Victor: What the hell would it take for you to come back to our company, to our family, huh? Some new role, some business? You don’t belong at jabot, son.

Adam: Oh, man. This — wow. This — this might be your most blatant attempt to buy my loyalty and love. How is it that you still don’t know all it would have taken, dad, is for you to just provide me with some actual loyalty and some actual love?

Chelsea: Whew!

Billy: You know, with all these supplies, connor’s going to be able to make five different projects. Extra credit, maybe?

Chelsea: Hmm, I don’t think my son is going to sign up to do more than one egg-drop device.

Billy: Okay, explain to me exactly what is an egg-drop device?

Chelsea: You really want to know? Because you’re going to be in for a crash course.

Billy: Hit me.

Chelsea: It’s a hand-crafted contraption designed to protect an egg in case it falls, you know? Gives it another day. Makes it more than just a raw yolk and cracked shell on the sidewalk.

Billy: Well, you’ve got my attention now. Let’s get to building.

Chelsea: [ Laughs ]

Phyllis: As much as i appreciate your offer, I just, um, I have to be honest. I’m still sort of holding out hope that summer will come to her senses and rescind the notice of termination.

Daniel: Well, you know, if I’m being honest, it just seems like most of the issues you’re having are really because of jack and diane. So, why would you want to get caught up in the middle of that?

Danny: Yeah, I remember diane was a sticking point for you in the past, and you’re not one to let bygones be bygones. Hey, daniel came clean with us. Now it’s your turn.

Phyllis: [ Chuckles ]

Danny: Come on.

Phyllis: Um, diane has truly pushed me to the edge. Um, she has definitely wormed her way back into the abbott family and…into my daughter’s life.

[ Clears throat ] I… I don’t understand how they just ignore the fact that she is duplicitous and deceitful. I just don’t get it.

Daniel: How can you be sure about that?

Phyllis: Really? You too? I’m sure about it because ever since she’s come into town, it’s been one lie after the other. I’ve uncovered it. Not only that, she did horrendous things in los angeles, but they’re all just ignoring it.

Daniel: It sounds like you’re right to feel the way you do about her.

Phyllis: Yeah, I’m 100% right. But somehow I’m the bad guy. I-I’m the one who’s wrong. I lost my job. I mean, the only thing I’m guilty of is just trying to protect my family. That’s it.

Danny: Hey… I know how frustrating this must be for you, okay? No one likes to feel like they’re the scapegoat. And you have worked so hard and come so far. You deserve better.

Daniel: Yeah, you do deserve better. Why the heck would you want to go to marchetti and deal with all that drama? I mean, I’m offering you a brand-new career. This is a role you’d be perfect for, a job that you were born to do, not to mention the added bonus of getting to work with a family member that, you know, actually wants you there.

Danny: I got to say, daniel’s right. Sounds like the perfect venue for you. Did you know, some ordinary cold medicines can raise your blood pressure?

Abby: I’m really sorry. I shouldn’t have brought you here. It was too soon.

Chance: It’s not your fault. I thought I was ready. I’m not. I’ll call you when we’re on our way back.

Abby: Okay.

[ Sighs ]

Danny: To your new game.

Daniel: To the new game.

Danny: Hear, hear!

Lily: What a cute, little family photo. Danny! Hi! Oh, my god. It’s been so long. I haven’t seen you.

Danny: I know. It’s good to see you.

Lily: Yeah, you too.

Danny: You look great, lily.

Lily: Thank you.

Daniel: Uh, I have some amazing news. Danny romalotti will be scoring “finding princess louisa.”

Lily: No way. You’re kidding. That’s fantastic.

Daniel: Do we have other good news to share?

Phyllis: Well, after hearing your passion for what you’re doing and your passionate plea to have me work for you, I am on board.

Daniel: I cannot wait to start working with you.

Lily: Yeah.

Daniel: Now that I got the key part of my creative team in place, it’s full steam ahead.

Phyllis: Speaking of which, I have to get my team together, because — well, I’ll leave that there. I have to bring my son’s incredible dream into fruition. That’s for sure.

Danny: I’ll head out with you. I’ll be seeing the two of you later? Yep?

Lily: Yes. Yeah. And thank you so much for scoring our game. I mean, honestly, that’s — that’s huge for us. Thank you.

Danny: You’re very welcome. Alright. See you.

Phyllis: Um, listen.

Danny: Yeah.

Phyllis: As much as i resented you — I hated you for taking daniel away from me when he was a baby…

[ Voice breaking ] You laid a really amazing foundation for him.

Danny: Hey, I should never have taken him away from you for so long. But you know what? In spite of all that, you’ve done pretty incredible work, finishing the job of raising him. You know that?

Daniel: You want to get something to drink?

Lily: Um, sure.

Phyllis: Thank you for saying that to me. Who’s going to take credit for the man he’s become?

Danny: You know what? I think daniel deserves the credit himself on this one. What do you think?

Daniel: Can you believe it? Both my parents are on board.

Lily: Yeah. Are you sure it’s a good idea to bring phyllis into this?

Daniel: I know. I know a lot of people don’t trust her, but she needs this. You know, she’s going to be good at it, too. And I can’t tell you how much it’s going to mean to me just to have her be a part of this venture.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Yeah, well, I mean, it’s your project, so you can staff it how you see fit.

Victor: There’s just no winning with you, is there?

Adam: That’s the thing. This isn’t supposed to be a game.

Victor: It isn’t a game, son. I’m telling you that you have a father who cares about you deeply.

Adam: Really? Just name me one time, just one time, when you have treated me like someone you consider to be a priority.

Victor: I made you an offer right now. I offered you a chance to reconcile with your father, to come back to his company. You turned me down.

Adam: You want me to quit my job so I can take a position working for you, where I would be victoria and nick’s subordinate. Why would I say yes to that?

Victor: [ Sighs ] You’re your own worst enemy, son. All the hurdles in your path have been created by you. What other than your son do you have? You have nothing, son. Nothing! And it’s your own damn fault.

Young & The Restless Update

Update written by Barbara

At Crimson Lights, Chance comes in too late to help Sharon put together Christmas boxes for Noah to deliver to the local shelter.  When he asks Sharon if there’s anything else he can do, she has him help her with some cleanup, starting with sweeping the floor.

Once they’re both done with their cleaning, Sharon and Chance sit down at a table. She tells him that she misses Rey very much and how she had no idea she would only be spending one Christmas – last year’s – with him as a married couple.  She grieves the family unit she had with Rey and her children, and Chance mentions that his family unit has taken on a shape  he never imagined.

Nate and Elena run into Abby and Dominic  in the hallway outside Devon’s penthouse. Abby realizes that they don’t know about her marriage to Chance being over so she fills them in about the impending divorce. Nate and Elena are shocked and saddened.  While they’re talking, Devon opens the door, saying that he thought he heard them in the hall, all the while glaring at Nate. Abby and  Dom go into Devon’s penthouse for a visit.

Once Nate and Elena are in their penthouse, Nate says that he was thinking about what Abby told them about her and Chance. He also brings up Abby spending Christmas Day with Devon, even for Dom’s sake.  It is apparent that Nate wonders about the timing of Devon and Amanda’s split and Chance and Abby’s breakup. Elena asks if he thinks there’s something going on between Devon and Abby and tells him that he’s jumping to a huge conclusion.

Elena also says that Devon and Amanda’s breakup is none of their business and she doesn’t get why he’s spending the time to speculate about it. Nate says it’s because Devon has gone out of his way to condemn him for being deceitful and duplicitous and wonders if Devon could be described the same way. Elena points out that Nate is trying to turn Devon into a hypocrit. She tells Nate to let it go and try to fix things with his family.

Across the hall in Devon’s apartment, Abby texts Elena about getting the four of them together for a drink at Devon’s.  Abby doesn’t say anything to Devon and Elena doesn’t tell Nate, but the women are optimistic that the men will be on board with it.

Shortly thereafter, Nate and Elena go over to spend time in with Abby and Devon in his penthouse apartment. Things between Nate and Devon start off tensely, but the tension dissipates somewhat when they start talking about old photos and treasured family memories.

At the cabin, Kyle takes Harrison outside to build a snowman. While he’s gone, Summer goes off on Diane about keeping secrets, such as the one Diane pleaded with Kyle not to tell, that being how she actually worked with the authorities to convict Jeremy. Diane is surprised that Kyle told Summer about this. Summer adds that Diane put him in a horrible position, asking him to lie to her like that.

Diane brings up Summer’s mother, Phyllis, who has gone beyond the pale causing trouble for Diane. Phyllis is responsible for Jeremy Stark coming to Genoa City and causing Diane to hide out in the cabin to begin with. Diane tells Summer that she feels for her regarding how Summer has to split her feelings between being loyal to her mother and being supportive of Kyle.

Summer tells Diane not to underestimate her again and to please not put Kyle in a position where he has to choose between his mother and his wife.  Summer adds that there will be a serious problem if Diane inserts herself in a way that causes this to happen again.

When Kyle and Harrison return to the cabin, Kyle gets a call from Jack, who lets him know that  Jeremy claims  he will leave town after he gets the second installment of Jack’s money. Kyle replies that his mother is still in danger.

At the Abbott house, Tucker comes over wearing a Santa hat, bringing presents for the whole Abbott family in a large red sack.  He invites Ashley out to lunch and she accepts. After they’re gone, Traci talks with Jack about how she’s concerned that their family has become unsettled.

Ashley and Tucker arrive at the door to Society, and realize that Abby closed the restaurant for Christmas Day.  However, Ashley tells Tucker that she has a key to the place that Abby gave her in case of emergencies. She says that she doesn’t think Abby would mind if she and Tucker use the kitchen, provided they clean up after themselves.

Tucker and Ashley have fun preparing their meal, then chat and laugh as they eat. Tucker tells her that an opportunnity has presented itself and he has created a business plan for the venture, a brand new company entirely theirs, no ties to Jabot, no ties to the Abbotts. He adds that it would be a dream come true for her.

After leaving Society and arriving at the front door to the Abbott house, Ashley lets Tucker know that she’s not prepared to even consider leaving Jabot, but is flattered by his efforts to lure her away.  Tucker leans in to give Ashley a kiss, she responds, then pulls way, grinning.

When she goes inside, Jack is in the living room and she says that she presumes he saw the close moment between her and Tucker. A frustrated Jack tells her she’s making one mistake after another and Ashley says she wishes he would just trust her for once.

At the cabin, Kyle tells Diane that he brought Summer up to speed on Jack’s news and lets Diane her know it will be a lot harder to get rid of Jeremy than they thought. He adds that if they can’t buy him off then he has another reason to stick around Genoa City.  Diane tells them that she refuses to just sit there and fall apart. She mentions that they need another way to neutralize Jeremy as a threat and she has an idea for how to handle him.
