Sally: Hot sauce! You do love me.

Nick: Yes. I know how you get when you run out, so I brought you a few others to try.

Sally: Oh, do not get between a girl and her scoville units. “Made with devil’s tongue and habanero peppers.” Yeah, baby. You’re awesome. Thank you.

Nick: You’re welcome. So, how was your meeting with chloe?

Sally: It was actually really uplifting.

Nick: Yeah?

Sally: Yeah. We talked about desks. And work ergonomics. And I totally got out of my head space for a change, it was really great.

Nick: There you go. Good design, something you’re passionate about. What better way to get back in the swing of things?

Sally: Yeah. Little by little.

Nick: Whatever it takes.

Sally: Okay. Come on. It’s your turn now. You mentioned something about a meeting with victor. What’s that about?

Nick: My dad offered me a job.

Sally: Doing what?

Nick: Working with adam.

Kyle: Gerard, it’s kyle abbott. I’d like to have some flowers delivered. No. No, not to marchetti. These are for an audra charles. She’s staying at the athletic club. Uh, I’m thinking something a little wild, gorgeous, unique. That sounds good. And the note, um… from one overachiever to another. Thanks for showing me your moves. No name. She’ll know. Oh, oh, oh, gerard, um, I’d like some earrings as well. I’m thinking diamonds.

Audra: You seem very pleased about something.

Kyle: I am if you are.

Tucker: For immediate release.

Ashley: We’re toasting?

Tucker: Yes. To us, to new business venture and to that provocative bit of pr that just went out.

Ashley: To our joint success.

Tucker: And then some.

[ Diane sighing ]

Jack: Thank you.

Diane: Yeah. I feel so badly for kyle. I’m afraid that both he and summer are in for some tough times.

[ Phone chiming ]

Jack: Are you kidding me? I don’t believe this. Four delicious pieces of chocolate.

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Ashley: Jack’s phone should be pinging any second with our press release.

Tucker: You’re gleeful.

Ashley: I can’t help it. I wish I could see his face when he finds out that we’ve started our own company. It’s gonna make his head explode.

Tucker: Now that I would like to see.

Ashley: He deserves it. A taste of his own medicine. I just hope it’s as traumatic for him as having diane shoved down my throat has been for me.

Tucker: Well, you have been in a righteous fury for months, so it’s gonna take jack some catching up before he joins you in the anger stage.

Ashley: The anger stage?

Tucker: Yeah, you know, the kubler-ross. The five stages of grief?

Ashley: Oh.

Tucker: Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance.

Ashley: Well, jack is definitely in denial, thinking that diane is capable of change.

Tucker: Yeah. And when he finds out we’re teaming up, he’ll start on a whole new sequence of trauma.

Ashley: Why? Why? You think the press release is going to trigger him into the anger phase?

Tucker: Oh, absolutely. I can already hear it. Ashley, that you would– you would– that you would– uh– uh– betray our family for this– this flim-flam man. This charlatan. It’s an outrage. You’ve gone too far.

Jack: Tucker and ashley in business together? That’s outrageous.

Diane: What? The two powerhouses of jabot and mccall unlimited are forming an iconic new health and beauty company, with close ties to the creme de la creme of today’s social media superstar influencers…” oh, this can’t possibly be real.

Jack: I need to make a call.

Kyle: Iced tea, please. Do you want anything?

Audra: I’m good.

Kyle: Thanks. Mm. They look great on you.

Audra: My new earrings?

Kyle: Just like I knew they would.

Audra: Thank you for the compliment. And for my earrings. They’re exquisite, by the way. Although, they’re ridiculously extravagant.

Kyle: I figured, why the hell not?

Audra: And the flowers they were gorgeous as well.

Kyle: Glad you liked them.

Audra: Even though I received them in front of your wife. Not the most cautious move in the world, kyle. You’re not the least bit worried I might have told summer who sent me that bouquet?

Kyle: Should I be?

Audra: Or was that the plan all along? To make her jealous?

Kyle: Summer didn’t factor into this at all.

Audra: Mm-hmm. For some reason, I believe you.

Kyle: Well, you said you might call me. Or you might not. I figured if you didn’t call, then the flowers would be a fond farewell. But if you did call, the earrings would be a sparkly, “hello, again.”

Sally: Ugh! Your father is unbelievable! First, he hands adam a company, then he won’t even let him run it? And what? Does he actually think he’s helping, or– or is he just trying to pick a fight? I’m sorry. I just find that man absolutely infuriating.

Nick: You’re not the only one who feels like that.

Sally: I mean, it was one thing when he tried to bribe me into handing over my child, but I assumed maybe this is just a test, so I tried to let it roll off my back. But now here he is again, trying to suck you into his drama with adam and stir the pot. Because I guarantee you, adam is not going to want you to work with him because he has way too much pride and he’s way too selfish to share in any of the glory. But, for some reason, he makes people want to help him and fix him, but it can’t be done. So, why even try?

Sharon: Double shot?

Adam: Uh, make it three.

Sharon: Okay. Whipped cream?

Adam: It’s not really a whipped cream kind of day.

Sharon: No whipped cream then, coming right up. So… you got any plans for the weekend?

Adam: Uh, just work.

Sharon: Well, that kind of defeats the purpose, doesn’t it?

Adam: What about you?

Sharon: Yeah, tessa and mariah and I are going to aria to the park. It will be her first picnic.

Adam: Hm. Nice.

Sharon: Do you have any plans for summer? Maybe a trip with connor? Has he been camping? I bet you he would love that.

Adam: Connor’s at sports camp at walnut grove right now. He’s very busy. And I’m throwing myself into things, as well.

Sharon: What things?

Adam: Thank you. Keep the change.

Sharon: Adam… lactaid is 100% real milk,

Nick: I mean, I knew you’d have something to say about my dad’s offer, but I didn’t think you’d be this upset about it and what were you saying about fixing adam? Was that in the letter that he wrote to you? Did you finally read it?

Sally: You know, adam is irrelevant. He’s not in my life anymore and I would prefer if you did not deal with him either. I’m sorry, I know he’s your brother. I did not mean to make demands. That’s not at all how I wanted this to come out.

Nick: Your feelings are raw. It’s okay. I get it. I don’t like my dad’s suggestion either. But my dad’s really afraid that adam’s gonna start spiraling again. He can go to some dark places, as I’m sure you know.

Sally: Yeah. I’m not really the right person to discuss this with. Adam is trouble, and he’s only going to get worse. And I meant it when I said I do not want this guy a part of my life anymore.

Audra: Aren’t you the charmer?

Kyle: I assumed if I’d overstepped, you would have told me off right away, but you’re wearing the earrings, so…

Audra: Well, sparkly happens to be my favorite color. I appreciate pretty things. They make me happy. You know, and those flowers you sent, just breathtaking. You know, they really brighten up my suite. You should come up and see them.

Kyle: Yeah, I think I’d like to see them.

Audra: You know, I really admire your attitude, not giving a damn who might see us together. It’s refreshing.

Kyle: I have nothing to hide.

Audra: Well, that’s you. I prefer to keep my personal life personal. I don’t need the hotel staff and everyone else here knowing my business.

Kyle: Is that because you want to keep your options open? Or you don’t want anyone to think you’re slacking off when there’s work to be done?

Audra: It doesn’t matter why. It’s just the way it is.

Kyle: I promise not to act suspicious. I’ll follow you shortly.

Jack: No, you’ve been very helpful, jim, thanks. Unbelievable.

Diane: Who did you call?

Jack: A buddy of mine at the chronicle. He works at the business desk. Apparently, it’s legit.

Diane: I don’t understand this. The last we knew, ashley was trying to line up board members to stage a coup.

>>Jack: Yeah, in the meantime, they have been building a company. Out of thin air. How did it even get this far?

Diane: Well, I can’t help but feel somewhat responsible.

Jack: No.

Diane: This whole rift started when you and I got back together. And I have– I have tried to be civil with ashley and to ignore her constant attacks, but I’m– I’m going to admit, there are times when I’ve fought back.

Jack: Listen to me. You are not to blame for this. There have been times in ashley’s life where she has done things that are mystifying to me. This is one of them.

Diane: But jack, the timing–

Jack: Ashley and I worked very hard to get things back to a good place after our last falling out. It almost didn’t happen, but she folded her company back into jabot. No, this is not your doing. This is tucker mccall’s doing. And I am through putting up with it. And him.

Ashley: Okay, I wanna see angry jack again. You’re upset with your sister. Do it again. For her.

Tucker: This is an outrage! Have you no shame? How could you think of doing this to us? To me! Your brother.

Ashley: Okay. Okay, you are weirdly good at this. It’s– it’s a little disturbing.

Tucker: I don’t know. I think it needs a little work.

Ashley: No, it’s pretty good. So, next level? Next stage?

Tucker: Bargaining.

Ashley: Bargaining.

Tucker: I assume that’s right around the corner. He’ll– he’ll offer you an upgraded title or maybe a big bonus to try to get you to stay. Maybe he’ll fire billy, free up some space. Give you the old man’s room.

Ashley: My father’s office. Oh, he’d have to be very desperate to do something like that.

Tucker: Or worried.

Ashley: Yeah, as worried as I’ve been. About diane and what she could do to jabot if she gets enough power.

Tucker: Ah. Speak of the devils. I was stuck.

Kyle: Oof. Business casual takes on a whole new meaning.

Audra: Well, you know, I thought you could see the earrings better this way. You know? No distractions.

Ashley: Well, hello there. Are you here to congratulate us on our new announcement?

Jack: I want to speak to tucker.

Ashley: You know I make my own decisions, jackie. And if you’ve got a problem with my plans, you can talk to me and not my business partner.

Tucker: Don’t forget, your fiance.

Ashley: Oh, yes, my fiance. So here I am, speak to me. Right here, right now. This very moment.

Jack: You are so predictable. As soon as you can’t get your own way, you pick up your toys and leave us all hanging.

Ashley: Is that your really sweet way of telling me that you’re gonna miss me?

Jack: I’m not gonna have this conversation with you.

Ashley: Oh, really?

Tucker: All right. I’ll have this conversation with you, jack. I am curious to know what my future brother-in-law has to say about this.

Diane: Are you sure you want to do this, ashley? Go to war against your brother just because you don’t like me? Oh, come on, what will it take to end this?

Ashley: It sure didn’t take long to get to the bargaining stage.

Nick: Nobody asked what happened that night. But adam, honestly, I’m really glad that you were there to do whatever you could.

Adam: You mean take a kick in the teeth so my big brother can shine?

Nick: Here we go.

Adam: No, really. I would really like to know how that feels. To be the guy in the spotlight when the credits roll. You know, saved his family from a lunatic. And what does nick do on his victory lap? He swoops in to fix what adam couldn’T. I mean, you’re a hero. And I just get shoved back in the corner where I’m expected to stay until I’m needed.

Nick: That night took its toll on all of us.

Adam: Yeah, but you came out of that store smelling like a rose, even though I did everything right. It all fell apart. How does that happen, nick? No, really, I would like to know because I just– I really want to get this right for next time. And we both know there’s going to be a next time. Someone’s gonna need me to do their dirty work, the stuff that they just don’t have the stomach for, you know, the unspeakable stuff. The decisions that nobody ever wants to make.

Nick: It was an awful night for everybody.

Adam: Yeah. Well, it was worse for some.

Nick: And just so you know, I have told sally that she needs to find some way to forgive you, for something that’s not your fault. But this is up to sally, all right? Wherever this goes from here is completely up to her. Now, she has decided that because the baby is sadly no longer here, there is nothing left between the two of you. So, if you ever cared about her, then you will respect that and stay away from her.

Nick: You know, why don’t you tell me about your meeting with chloe? Let’s talk about business or something.

Sally: I just can’t, nick.

Nick: You can’t what?

Sally: I’m just really tired, okay? I– I– I can’t talk anymore. I hit a wall or something. I just really need to rest.

Nick: All right. So what do you want to do? Do you want to, uh, watch a movie or something? Maybe some mindless comedy? How about that nature show that you love so much, with the british dude with the soothing voice?

Sally: Yeah, maybe another time.

Nick: All right, um, we could–

Sally: Look, I just need some space, nick. I– I don’t know if it’s leftover hormones or the fact that I haven’t really slept in days, but I am on a hair trigger all of a sudden and I really do not want to say something to hurt you. Or to hurt us. So, please, can you just go?

Nick: Yeah, of course.

Sally: Nick. I can tell you’re trying. And I really appreciate that.

Nick: Feel better.

[Music playing] Subject 1: Cancer is a long journey.

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

What can you do

with sensitive skin?

Kyle: I feel like I’m 20 again, back in new york.

Audra: You can be a bad boy anywhere.

Kyle: I pretty much was.

Audra: And now, you’re all tamed and domesticated.

Kyle: Oh, no, no, no. That’s not what you were saying five minutes ago.

Audra: True.

[ Audra sighing ] You know, feels like I had to give up this big part of myself to become successful. Always putting in the hours, paying your dues. No time to be playful or spontaneous.

Kyle: Then, before you know it, you have a family and responsibilities.

Audra: Not in here. Here, we can be carefree.

Kyle: Oh, but until the next meeting, the next spreadsheet.

Audra: That’s when you don’t love your job. When you do, it’s magic.

Kyle: You really like it at newman, don’t you?

Audra: I can’t remember the last time I was this excited to go in the office in the morning.

Kyle: I worked there, learned a lot. In terms of a job, it was valuable, but… as far as the newmans themselves, watch out. It’s hard to trust any of ’em.

Audra: Look, I understand there’s no love lost there, but I’m running newman media, with all the autonomy I could ever want and I need a right-hand man. Interested?

Nick: So, I guess you didn’t decide to sell off kirsten’s company and retire to a tropical island just yet?

Sharon: No. The idea is to use it for as much good and as many people as possible. So, no island for me.

Nick: All right. Got it.

Sharon: Your usual?

Nick: You know what? Let’s get crazy. Instead of regular lemonade, why don’t you put a little raspberry syrup in it?

Sharon: Ooh. Good choice.

Nick: Yeah, let’s go.

Sharon: So, how’s sally? Everything okay?

Nick: Yeah, not so much.

Sharon: Oh.

Nick: I managed to upset her.

Sharon: Wow, I’m sorry. What happened?

Nick: Instead of doing what victoria wants me to do, which is take some time off. Dad thinks it would be a perfect time for me to go and help adam.

Sharon: Help him at mccall?

Nick: Yeah, or a better way to describe it would be to insert myself someplace where I know I’m not wanted.

Sharon: Why?

Nick: Dad thinks that adam’s gonna channel his pain from sally and losing the baby into some war with the family. He thinks he’s going to go after newman media and victoria.

Sharon: Do you think that victor’s right?

Nick: Adam is not hiding his true intentions regarding newman media. He thinks he built up that company and he wants it back. And vic’s like, “bring it on.” So, dad thinks there needs to be some buffer or there’s going to be complete chaos.

Sharon: So, what did you say to victor?

Nick: I told him I’d think about it. Then, I made the mistake of bringing it up to sally and it really set her off.

Sharon: Mm. I’m sorry.

Nick: Yeah. Thank you. She just doesn’t think adam deserves any help and she’s blown away that I’m even considering it.

Sharon: Well, I haven’t spoken with sally directly, but I would imagine she’s struggling and I feel for her. She’s probably trying to find her equilibrium after a trauma and that’s hard.

Nick: So, what’s your take? You think I should work with adam?

Jack: If you actually have some genuine affection for ashley, you will call off this foolishness. Forget the wedding. Forget the new company. Don’t you see you are dragging her away from a family company she loves?

Tucker: You’ve really lost your perspective, jack. Jabot is just that. It’s just a company. Nothing more. It’s a profit-and-loss sheet. And it was never john abbott’s heart and soul. Family was, right? So if you want to honor your father, wish your sister well. Toast her new beginning and embrace her impending marriage because that’s what she wants.

Jack: Wow, you can still spin it with the best of ’em, can’t you? You gave up your company, so ashley should give up hers. You selfish son of a bitch. You want everybody else’s life to be as empty and meaningless as yours.

Diane: Okay, sure, I’m bargaining. Whatever you want to call it. I’ll do whatever I can to make jack’s life easier. So, what will it take?

Ashley: Well, a week ago, I would have said just leave, you know. Dump jack and get out of dodge. But now I actually want to pursue this.

Diane: Oh, please.

Ashley: It’s only a matter of time before you do something stupid that undermines my father’s company. Meanwhile, tucker and I will be nurturing our company. Watching it grow and flourish, while jabot fails and flounders because of you. And then we will be there to lend a helping hand.

Diane: You can’t be serious.

Ashley: I am serious, yeah. And then jack will cut you loose because he’ll realize you are the reason why jabot is failing. It will be too late, but you know, at least it’ll happen. And he won’t want to accept our help, but he will remember that our father’s company and our family is the most important thing, diane. And see, you’re never gonna be a true member of our family. You will never be an abbott. Not ever. For as long as you live. For copd, ask your doctor about breztri.

Sharon: The only ones who can decide if it makes sense for you and adam to work together is you and adam. I mean, would he even want that? Did victor ask?

Nick: Didn’t sound like it.

Sharon: Figures.

Nick: I know adam has been emphatic about turning things around on his own. You know, he really wants to turn mccall unlimited into a media powerhouse. Dad keeps offering him advice, but adam just keeps batting it away.

Sharon: Well, if that’s the case, what could you hope to accomplish by working side-by-side with him?

Nick: Keep the peace? Maybe prevent adam from making any bad decisions?

Sharon: If he would be open to that kind of influence. Do you think that adam might take this as a– a sign of lack of faith from victor? Imagine how much that would hurt him.

Nick: Look, I know adam already thinks dad pulled a bait-and-switch. You know, he gave him this conglomerate, but he’s second-guessing everything he’s doing. If you throw me into the mix, as paranoid as adam is, he’s probably gonna think that was what dad’s plan was all along. He might even think dad planted me there as a spy so I can report back on his activities.

Sharon: Sounds like you have quite a few reasons why it simply won’t work.

Nick: Yeah, I mean, it’s a lot of red flags.

Sharon: But you want to do it.

Audra: You have so much to offer newman media, okay? And I need a strong second-in-command, and you have the perfect skill set. You know, finance, operations, so I can concentrate on acquisitions and the creative side of things. Look, I guarantee you, it will be a lot more fun than working in fashion.

Kyle: Not as narrowly focused.

Audra: Exactly. And here’s the kicker. Adam newman is looking to use mccall as a weapon to come after us.

Kyle: You’re kidding me.

Audra: Look, I used to work with tucker, okay. So I know exactly what resources adam can bring to bear. If he can miraculously make a go of it, then newman media might be in peril. So, we need to swing first and swing fast. And I think you’re the perfect man for the job.

Kyle: Well, adam isn’t my favorite person. I like the idea of crushing his plan.

Audra: Then say yes.

[ Kyle sighing ] Why’re you hesitating?

Kyle: For one, my family.

Jack: If you had half as much influence over ashley as you want everyone to think, you would do something about this unhealthy fixation she has on diane.

Tucker: You want to know what I find fascinating, jack? So, dina leaves the family, right? Diane does too, although in a much more gruesome fashion. And just as dina came back–

Jack: I don’t want to hear my mother’s name out of your mouth again. This is about you manipulating my sister.

Tucker: Come on. You don’t actually believe that. She’s so tough and I think that you’re just scared to go toe-to-toe with her. That’s why you out here coming after me. And we both know, she’s just gonna do whatever the hell she wants anyway. Okay? Just admit it. ‘Cause the sooner you do, the sooner you’ll be on your journey to acceptance. Martial arts is my passion.

Nick: I don’t know what I’m thinking yet. But I do know I want your input instead of you dodging the question.

Sharon: Well, like I always say, there are pros and cons to every situation.

Nick: See, there we go. Come on.

Sharon: I suspect you already know what my advice would be.

Nick: Yeah, you think I should do it? Because adam’s grieving. And because he’s my brother. And when he’s like this, he’s a powder keg waiting to explode. So, even if I don’t do it for his sake, I should do it so I can prevent anyone else from becoming collateral damage.

Sharon: So what will you do?

[ Adam sighing ]

[ Sally sighing ]

[ Sally sighing ]

Adam: I don’t want the darkness to win. I want to believe that there can be healing. And I don’t know, maybe it’s ava’s spirit that’s making me write this letter. She knows that we’ve suffered her loss together. And just as creating her bound us here on earth, losing her binds us for eternity. But I want to be in your life, in the here and now, to support you through this. I’ll be waiting downstairs until noon if you want to talk. Please, don’t let this be goodbye. Adam.

[ Sally sighing ]

Audra: Listen, I’m happy in whatever role your sister deems best for me. And I’m ready to take you down in a corporate battle, if that’s what you’re determined you’ll have.

Adam: Good to know.

Audra: Hm. Well, it’s past noon. I think you’ve been stood up by whoever you’re waiting for.

Adam: You know, you have made a big mistake underestimating me and I hope you get ready for the biggest battle of your life.

Diane: Well, ashley’s in rare form today.

Jack: You shouldn’t have to put up with that.

Diane: Yeah, let’s just go somewhere else, okay?

Ashley: So diane tried her hand at bargaining. She really sucks at it.

Tucker: Yeah and the news hit jack pretty hard.

Ashley: Yeah?

Tucker: It would appear that he’s going to be reaching the depression stage in record time.

Ashley: Oh, boy. You know what? This celebration has gone even better than I was hoping for. Come here.

Audra: You know, maybe it’s time you broke away from the family, the family business. You know, grabbed some freedom. It’s so much easier and cleaner when you go after what you want when you want it. And to hell with expectations.

Kyle: That’s quite an offer. I’m intrigued. Newman media’s going places, that’s for sure. But uh, it’s not really a decision I can make on the spur of the moment.

Audra: Hm. It’d be a lot more palatable than working with your estranged wife.

Kyle: Do you know what I would like to talk about?

Audra: What?

Announcer: Next week on the young and the restless…

Tucker: That is a secret weapon. You can also consider it your wedding gift.

Adam: Why in a million years would you think it’s a good idea for the two of us to partner up?

Summer: What’s the news? How’s our mom?

Michael: Brace yourselves. I think she’s ready for her comeback.
