Abby: Well, I am happy to report that you are officially magic.

Chance: Oh, yeah? What’d I do?

Abby: Playtime with daddy went so well that Dom was tuckered. I mean, he fell asleep as soon as I put him down.

Chance: [ Chuckles ] Yeah, he had a good time or, you know, at least it seemed like he did.

Abby: Of course he did! He was spending time with his dad.

Chance: Yeah, well, there’s a lot more to being a good dad than acing tummy time.

Abby: Parenting has a steep learning curve. Look, there’s new challenges every day. I’m always wondering what’s right. Most of the time, I am just faking it. I mean, I have my own questions and fears.

Rey: You know, you keep spoiling me like this, I’m gonna have to add extra time to my workouts.

Sharon: That wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Rey: Oh, really?

Sharon: Oh, I know a good way you can work off extra calories.

Rey: Tell me more.

Chloe: Wow. Looks like someone broke in and had a party.

Adam: Very funny. I was just working late.

Chloe: Really?

Adam: Yep. If the success of the platform means I have to put in some overtime, I’ll do it, ’cause it’s important to strike while the iron’s hot. Now’s the time to line up more ad sales and sponsors.

Chloe: Good answer. Though it’s a little hard to believe your nose was to the grindstone, given the caviar, the bottle of the vodka, and two glasses.

Adam: Chloe, I don’t need to explain myself to you, okay

***************

Victoria: You had a spectacular New Year’s Eve. Wow. Well [Clears throat] I would’ve thought that spending the holiday without Nick, you know, it would’ve been hard, given that you’ve just broken up and, I mean, it was my brother’s birthday. Guess you move on pretty quickly, don’t you.

Phyllis: I’m resilient.

Victoria: Hmm. Well, you didn’t spend the evening with Jack because I know he’s out of town. I wonder who you did spend it with. Maybe Amanda. Mm, although Devon probably wouldn’t have wanted you tagging along. Oh, Lauren and Michael. They let you be their third wheel, didn’t they?

Phyllis: When I was talking about my spectacular evening, i was referring to the hotel. We actually killed. We did very, very well. You know, I wasn’t here because I was having, you know, a fabulous dinner, but the feedback was great and it made me realize that all of my hard work has paid off. You know, our rooms are booked, the ballroom was packed. I had to hire more masseuses, and a number of women enjoy their time at the escape club.

Victoria: Oh, yes, well, I can see how some women might want to usher out a bad year and start off the new one with an escape fantasy. But I’m not one of those women because 2021 turned out pretty well for me.

Devon: Now, how do you just keep getting more beautiful?

Amanda: [ Laughs ]

Devon: How’s that work?

Amanda: Well, all of the credit needs to go to my hair stylist, but she’s also the reason why I’m a little late.

Devon: Oh, you are definitely worth the wait.

Amanda: Oh, New Year’s Eve is really bringing out the sweet talker in you, huh?

Devon: Oh, you’re bringing it out of me. All you. And that’s all I want tonight to be about — just you. No legal work, no family drama, just us dancing to jazz music in the ballroom and me showing you how much I love you.

********************

Sharon: Well, you know what would make the New Year even better? As if you and I just spent more time together.

Rey: Mm.

Sharon: The two of us.

Rey: Mm, I think we can make that happen.

Sharon: And some travel would be good, too.

Rey: Yeah. I’d like to get down to Miami again.

Sharon: Yeah, we should do that before the spring because I’d love being in the hot weather knowing everyone back here is in the freezing cold.

Rey: Mm, no argument here.

Sharon: We should take a trip in the fall, too. Maybe Europe.

:Rey Oh. Okay. I like that idea. Tell me what else is on your list.

Chelsea: And thank you for the gift you sent him. Oh, my gosh! Chicago Blackhawks jersey. Wow. I mean, he put it on as we’re opening gifts and he’s yet to take it off.

Rey: Well, I’m glad he liked it.

Chelsea: Yeah, yeah. Connor’s really into hockey these days, so it was perfect. Very thoughtful. Thank you.

Rey: He’s a great kid.

Chelsea: He is. You know, Connor worships the ground you walk on and he thinks you walk on water.

[ Chuckles ] As leery as I am about Victor having, you know, as much access to him as he wants, it’s really comforting to me knowing that you live close by.

Rey: Well, he seems to be doing well. I saw him getting in some practice on the ice with Noah the other day, and, you know, he may be new to the sport, but he’s definitely got some skills.

Chelsea: Oh. Says the guy from Miami.

*****************

Mariah: You are not gonna win this one, Tessa. She’s determined.

Sharon: I just want everything to be perfect for you.

Tessa: I mean, it is — perfect size, perfect location.

Mariah: Complete access to the best coffee in town and close to you.

Sharon: Sounds like you’re trying to butter up your landlady.

Mariah: We were thinking more like… grandma.

Phyllis: Hey. Are you back on work mode after the holiday?

Nick: Just a quick meeting.

Phyllis: Ah.

Nick: I see you in boss mode, too.

Phyllis: No, I mean, hotels don’t close during this time, so, anyway, I didn’t have any time off. That was fun, our video chat with Summer and the gang.

Nick: Yeah, well, it was pretty clear Harrison liked your Christmas gift the best.

Phyllis: Oh, no. You know, it’s not a contest. But if it were, I’d win.

Nick: I’m actually wearing the gift you gave me right now.

Phyllis: I know. I smelled your essence. So don’t expect a birthday gift from me. I didn’t plan that far in advance.

Nick: I will lower my expectations, yeah. Besides, I gave myself the best birthday gift ever. I’m gonna go and see Summer.

***************

Victoria: Why do you want me to think the worst of you? Are you trying to make me feel guilty because you lost your job? Is that what’s going on here? Because, if so, that’s the most passive-aggressive thing that I’ve ever witnessed. Not to mention it’s completely ineffective.

Billy: Well, you’re onto something there. It’s damn near impossible to get a Newman to feel guilty about anything. It’s like the empathy gene skipped a few generations.

Sharon: It’s a slow night.

Noah: Yep.

Sharon: People usually come here for hot chocolate or coffee after skating and shopping. I mean, where are they all? This place is usually packed before Christmas.

Noah: Absolutely.

Sharon: Of course, I did sell those eight carrot cake muffins to the portly gentleman wearing a red and white fur coat. He was buying them for his reindeer.

Noah: Oh, well, that’s good.

Sharon: I’m so glad you’re home, Noah. You know, I was getting tired of you ignoring me in London. Now you can just ignore me right here in Genoa City.

****************

Sharon: Are you sure you can’t be pulled away from your computer for a moment to talk to your family?

Nick: Yeah, Noah, you can continue to ignore us. I mean, we are just your parents. I’m sure you have other — actually, you don’t. We’re it. We’re your parents, man.

Noah: Come on, stop, stop.

Sharon: Well, we’re here. We’re ready to bond with you.

Noah: Oh, yeah? You guys have important information you want to share? ‘Cause I’m pretty sure you were talking about carrot cake muffins before dad walked in.

Sharon: Oh, so you were listening a little.

Recap written by Eva

Nick returns from Milan determined not to get involved in Newman family drama.

Nick asks Noah to come and work for him instead of taking the job at Newman Media.

Abby tells Devon that she and Chance have decided not to change the original visitation agreement because it would confuse Dominic when he gets older and also interrupt Chance’s efforts to bond with the baby. Devon isn’t happy, but he doesn’t want to go to court and sue for custody like Amanda keeps encouraging him to do. Devon is confident that since Abby and Chance told him he can see Dominic anytime he will spend a lot of time with Dominic.

Abby is concerned that Chance wants to go back to work too soon since he has been discussing active cases with Rey. Abby is unaware that Chance asked Rey to talk to Paul and try to persuade him to let him return to work.

Chance: No, that’s so different. Are you kidding me? I watch you with dom, and I’m just always in awe of how instinctively you respond to him. It’s so special.

Abby: Hey. You are being hard on yourself. Look, I know that your connection with him is just gonna grow, and you guys are gonna be just as close. Dominic is gonna get older, and you guys are gonna start doing guy things together, like playing catch and running around.

Chance: Yeah, hope you’re right.

Abby: No. I know I’m right. We just have to focus on our family and growing that connection with dominic. I have faith in you.

Chance: Well, thank you for believing in me.

Abby: I love you. We’re a team.

Chance: Mm. Well, then we need to put our heads together. We have to make a decision about devon’s request to play a bigger role in dominic’s life.

Amanda: That is not a work face. You thinking about dominic?

Devon: I just can’t get over how abby and chance reacted to me wanting to spend more time with him.

Amanda: Yeah, I know. I’m sorry.

Devon: It’s like they treated me like I was attacking their parenting skills.

Amanda: Well, in their defense, your request, it probably came as a huge shock. This is a complicated situation, devon. I mean, there’s a lot of emotions involved.

Devon: Oh, yeah, there certainly are, ’cause they got very, very defensive.

Amanda: I’m sure that they did. But they also know that you’ve been there from the very beginning. Okay, you were the one who volunteered to be the donor that they needed to make that beautiful baby boy. Right? And you were also the one who helped them track down the guy who kidnapped mariah. You were there when he was brought into this world. You saw him take his first breath. You have been a part of this child’s life. He has a life because of you. They know that.

Devon: Well, they’re my friends and you know what I’m up against, so what do you suggest that I do?

Amanda: Well, what was the last thing that you told them?

Devon: I told them that we can talk about it when they’re ready to. Is that not the right move?

Amanda: I get that you’re trying to give abby some time to process things, but you decided to put a pin in the conversation as soon as things got tense.

Devon: I — yeah, ’cause I-i felt like, if I pushed, you know, for them to make a decision, that would jeopardize my future with dominic or our friendship. So I don’t know what to do, and I would love your honest opinion. If you were in my shoes, what would you do?

Amanda: Well, I think that what you’re asking for is perfectly reasonable. Do not let this go.

Sharon: Fresh out of the oven.

Nick: Don’t get up. I brought gifts.

Sharon: Hey. You should be the one receiving gifts, not giving them. Happy belated birthday, and welcome home.

Nick: Thank you. I hope christian wasn’t too much trouble for you guys.

Rey: You kidding? We loved having him. What’s in the bags?

Nick: Whoa, no, no, no. Some of the best chocolates, pastries, and cheeses you will ever experience.

Sharon: [ Laughs ] I can’t wait.

Rey: Who says we have to?

Nick: Hey! Buddy, hands off the merchandise. Come on.

Sharon: Speaking of sweets, faith says it is not officially your birthday until she gets to make you a cake.

Nick: I agree with her. Just tell her to pick a day, and I’ll be there.

Rey: How was your trip?

Nick: Amazing. Best present I’ve ever given myself.

Chelsea: [ Sighs ]

[ Sighs ]

[ Breathing deeply ]

Noah: Chelsea?

Chelsea: Sorry. It’s been a day. Already.

Noah: Everything okay?

Chelsea: I’ve been looking up these breathing exercises you can do in order to reduce stress. I’m thinking about asking adam to turn one of the offices into a peaceful space.

Noah: “The breathing room.”

Chelsea: Yes. I like it already. I envision myself spending a lot of time there. Unless something changes.

Noah: Is there anything going on at newman media I should know about, you know, before I get in too deep?

Chelsea: Oh, you know, just office politics. It’s always something, right?

Noah: Considering who you’re working for…

Chelsea: Your uncle.

Noah: Your ex. I’m not surprised there’s politics. You guys have a lot of history. And now sally spectra’s in the mix, too, so…

Chelsea: Do you know her?

Noah: No, no, not well. But she and adam seemed pretty close at the wedding in tuscany.

Chelsea: [ Breathes deeply ] I just heard something amazing!

Noah: I really hope I didn’t hit a nerve.

Chelsea: It’s okay. It’s not your fault.

Noah: Look, I am no fan of sally’s and I’m only recently on speaking terms with adam again. I figured he deserved another chance after what he did for faith. So tell me, how bad are things at newman media?

Chelsea: I’ll save you a cushion in the breathing room.

Noah: Great. Yeah, now that I signed on, I’m wondering if that was the right thing to do.

Chelsea: Because of adam?

Noah: No, that’s only part of it. I’d also be jumping back into a family business that I thought i needed to escape.

Chelsea: What made you come back?

Noah: [ Chuckles ] That is the million-dollar question. I don’t know. Maybe — maybe I wanted to figure out if I was running away from gc for all the wrong reasons. Is trying to prove I’m nothing like my corporate suit relatives a good enough reason?

Chelsea: You’re an artist. You’re cut from different cloth.

Noah: Yeah, but did I have to move across the ocean to prove my point?

Chelsea: Well, london has other things going for it besides being victor-free. You got your freedom. You’re able to spread your wings, make a name for yourself.

Noah: Things in london didn’t really turn out the way i thought they would. You know, maybe that was karma’s way of showing me I shouldn’t have run away in the first place. Who knows? Maybe I should my last name to the test. Jump into the viper’s nest at newman media.

Chelsea: Well, I hope you don’t see me as one of those vipers.

Devon: I just can’t stop kicking myself for not taking your advice when we were originally drawing up the agreement. ‘Cause all you were trying to do was help me protect my rights from the get-go, in case, and i was so sure that nothing would go wrong.

Amanda: Yeah, but the baby was just an idea back then. Not this living, breathing child who’s staring back at you. You had no idea that your feelings were gonna change this way.

Devon: Yeah, you did.

Amanda: Well, my sole concern right now is you. I hate seeing you hurt like this.

Devon: I just — I don’t think that I should push abby any more, given how upset she got.

Amanda: Turned into mama bear, huh?

Devon: It’s amazing how just one little life can change everything.

Amanda: Dominic never changed you.

Devon: Don’t think so?

Amanda: No. Just amplified everything that was already in there. Your love, compassion, strength. All the good things. Your heart has always been in the right place. You just want to make sure that that little boy gets all of the love that he deserves. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Okay?

Abby: Maybe when devon said it was a bad idea bringing up shared custody, that we should just forget about it. I mean, maybe he thinks that we shouldn’t make any changes to the agreement.

Chance: Yeah, that’s — that’s one possibility.

Abby: Well, what do you think?

Chance: I don’t think he’s backing off. He probably thought talking about it right then and there was a bad idea, so he hit the pause button. I mean, which was the right move. He didn’t want to cause a scene right in the middle of crimson lights.

Abby: I didn’t take it that way.

Chance: But wanting to spend more time with dominic, I — i don’t think that’s something that’s gonna change, abby.

Abby: Okay, but, I mean, i have to tell him something. What am I gonna say?

Chance: Uh…I don’t know. But this sense of limbo is definitely unsettling, I’ll tell you. I mean, after everything devon’s done for us and dominic, we just need to tell him where we stand, be honest.

Abby: Yeah. I mean, he’s been amazing with dominic. And I can’t imagine how devon’s feeling. It doesn’t take long for our son to grow on people.

Chance: Yeah.

Abby: And mariah went through something similar. I mean, she got very attached to dominic, and, well, she just had to take some time away, and then it brought her some — some relief, some peace. I mean, maybe the same thing will happen for devon.

Chance: And if it doesn’t?

Abby: Then we do what’s best for dominic. That’s our job as his parents.

Chance: Yep, yep, yep.

Abby: And we were just talking about how important it is, now that you’re home, we’re together as a family, that you’re gonna be the best dad that you can be. Any disruption in that, that would just be weird. Babies need stability and consistency. Dominic needs to know that we’re there for him, always, to meet all of his needs. When he cries, we hold him. When he’s hungry, we feed him. I mean, and spending more time at devon’s place, the older he gets, I mean, any sort of ambiguity, I mean, that would just be confusing. He needs to know that this is his home. We are his parents.

[ Sighs ] I mean, we can’t change the agreement.

Chance: But devon can still come visit any time he likes. He needs to know that.

Abby: Yes, yes, but any changes to the legal visitation, I mean, shared custody? That’s not gonna happen.

Chance: [ Sighs ] He’s gonna be disappointed.

Abby: I know, and I’m sorry about that, but we are coming at this from a place of love. For our son and our family. You don’t know how much pressure you put on your septic system.

Sharon: So tell us why milan was such a gift.

Rey: Oh, it had to be the food.

Sharon: Or was it seeing summer and kyle?

Nick: It was all of it. The change of scenery just really allowed me to figure out some things.

Sharon: That’s so great.

Nick: Summer is doing awesome. She and kyle have built a great life there. Marchetti loves her. Harrison is speaking italian like a native.

Sharon: Wow. Well, sounds like summer’s really coming into her own. Hey, when are we going to milan?

Rey: [ Chuckles ] You know, I would love to pursue this topic of conversation — thank you, nick — but right now I got to go talk to chance.

Sharon: Oh, okay.

Rey: We shall revisit later.

Sharon: Yes, we’ll talk about this later. So, something seems a little different about you. You seem more relaxed.

Nick: I am. You know, I took a long look at summer’s life, and I realized that the distance from the family has allowed her to grow and challenge herself.

Sharon: Did she say that?

Nick: She didn’t have to. I can see it in her. The freedom from the familiarity has done wonders for her, and it’s made me realize that being a newman shouldn’t define any part of who I am.

Chance: Thanks for meeting me like this, man. I know you’re a busy guy.

Rey: Yeah, but I always got time for my old partner. What’s up? You made it sound important.

Chance: Well, I might have oversold it a little bit. But it is important to me, at least.

Rey: Alright. Lay it on me.

Chance: I’m ready to get back to work.

Rey: I thought you were taking more personal time.

Chance: Yeah, I know, and i know I’m supposed to take things slow and ease back in to the workflow, yeah.

Rey: And the last time you spoke to the chief, he was a little reluctant.

Chance: Well, that’s where you come in handy, partner.

Rey: [ Chuckles ] Okay, I see. You want me to convince him that you’re ready.

Chance: That’s why you’re the second-best detective around.

Rey: Ahh.

Chance: Come on, man. You clearly need me and my skills. Let me put them to good use.

Rey: You sure you’re ready to sign back up for fighting crime, bad coffee, and long nights?

Chance: It’s what I was made for.

Rey: What about abby and the baby? I know how important it is for you to reconnect with them.

Chance: Come on, man. You know abby. She’s more than supportive. Enough about me. Fill me in on this case you’re working on. I’m all ears.

Amanda: What do you think about lasagna? Or I can pull out all the stops and I can make my famous duck dish. Or the salmon and grits that you like. Hmm?

Devon: Sounds like you’re trying to distract me with food.

Amanda: Distract you? Hmm, why would I do that?

Devon: Can you do that? You’re more than welcome to try.

Amanda: Yeah?

Devon: Yeah.

[ Knock on door ]

Devon: Are you expecting somebody?

Amanda: Oh, no. Stay right there.

Devon: Okay.

Amanda: Abby, hi.

Abby: I’m sorry for just popping in. Is now a good time?

Devon: Absolutely. Come in, please.

Amanda: I’m gonna head out. I’m — I got to grab some things for dinner, so I’ll be back, okay?

Devon: Okay. I love you.

Amanda: Love you, too.

Abby: I’m sorry. I probably should’ve warned you that I was stopping by.

Devon: It’s completely fine. You’re always welcome here. Can I get you anything? Drink or…?

Abby: No, no, I’m good. Thanks.

Devon: Yeah. I’m glad you’re here, ’cause i wanted to apologize for how tense everything got last time we talked. I didn’t mean for that to happen at all.

Abby: No, I’m the one who’s sorry for the way I reacted.

Devon: Mm, it’s okay.

Abby: I actually — I want to thank you for giving chance and I some time to think it over and talk about it.

Devon: Yeah, of course. We’re — we’re all friends, and I don’t want that to change.

Abby: You’re more than just a friend. We both know that. And I am eternally grateful for everything that you’ve done. You’ve gone above and beyond. That’s just who you are.

Devon: You know, I would do anything for dominic.

Abby: I know that, and I know that you love him deeply. But chance and I, we have decided…we’re not gonna make any changes to the visitation agreement. Dominic has a home with his mother and his father. I always had a connection to my grandfather…

Devon: Okay. Um…abby, I hope that this is not a misunderstanding, ’cause i am not trying to take chance’s place as dom’s dad. That’s not my intention at all.

Abby: And I hope that you know that dominic is adored by his mother and his father. He will have a supportive family the rest of his life. We’ll make sure of it.

Devon: Yeah, okay. So what are you trying to say to me?

Abby: Devon, you are always welcome in our home, but…we don’t want anything that might be confusing to dominic right now, especially since chance is trying to make up for the time that he lost with his son.

Devon: Well, I’m not asking for anything that’s gonna get in the way of that. I just want to spend more time with dominic.

Abby: Do you remember when we talked about creating a child?

Devon: Of course.

Abby: That’s when we all sat around and we created boundaries, and chance and I, as dominic’s parents, think it’s important to adhere to those.

Devon: Yeah, I hear what you’re saying, but you realize that when we started this journey, we had no idea of what path we’d end up on, right?

Abby: Right, I mean, I was certain that chance would be by my side for most of the pregnancy.

Devon: Yeah, and then he wasn’t for the whole time.

Abby: I would give anything for chance to have been home before dominic was born, but i guess we don’t always get what we want.

Devon: Yeah, no, I guess not.

Abby: And when I thought that chance had died in that explosion, that he might never get to meet his son, I… I’m very thankful that you were there to help me through that.

Devon: I wouldn’t have had it any other way, abby.

Abby: But chance is home now, and my family is together. Dom’s dad has been through hell, and it’s important for him to connect with his son. He needs time to bond with him. And I refuse to let a single thing disrupt that. I hope you understand.

Rey: 30-year-old male, never late for work, dependable. Leaves his home to get in his car for the 10-mile drive to his office. No one’s seen him since then.

Chance: You check airports?

Rey: Yeah, rental cars, trains, everything.

Chance: Passport?

Rey: At home.

Chance: Debit, credit cards, anything?

Rey: Hasn’t been used since the night before he disappeared. There’s no blood or struggle at his home, and his friends have all been interviewed.

Chance: Significant other?

Rey: Yeah, that’s when things start to get interesting.

Chance: Okay, hold on. Give me a second.

Rey: You alright? You need to take a break there?

Chance: Are you kidding me? If we’re gonna solve this thing, I got to take some notes.

Rey: Ooh.

Chance: Alright, one more time, from the beginning.

Rey: [ Chuckles ]

Nick: I know I’ve had this awakening before about my family, but like they say, every time I think I’m out, they pull me right back in.

Sharon: So you’re still trying to find a way to be free.

Nick: I thought I was able to accomplish that with a career change or just trying to keep them out of my personal life, but I realized that’s just surface stuff, you know? It’s not something I felt deep down in my gut or in my mind. Um, but this time, it feels like it’s true and complete and profound.

Sharon: Well, I’m proud of you.

Nick: Before you begin your round of applause, there’s something I need to admit to you.

Sharon: Oh, no. What did you do?

Nick: No, it’s more like what I didn’t do. I wasn’t completely honest with you when you asked me about that dream I had on christmas eve.

Sharon: Yeah?

Nick: Cassie was in it.

Sharon: [ Gasps ] I haven’t dreamt about her in so long. Tell me everything. How did she look?

Nick: She was beautiful, radiant, and content. I told her how much I missed her. She said that she was always gonna be in my heart and our families. She said that life is about change and that an unexamined life isn’t worth living.

Sharon: Such an old soul. She always was.

[ Sighs ] You know…I’d like to believe that this was really a message from her.

Nick: It was very inspiring. But she wasn’t the only one in my dream. Noah and faith were in there, too. And they told me that I just needed to look inward and to follow my heart, and that my heart is where my roots are, and I just need to allow myself to get back there.

Sharon: What do you think that meant?

Nick: I don’t think they were talking about, you know, the roots of my family tree. I think they were talking about the roots that I’ve created. You know, the ones that I’ve planted. My family — that is the thing that’s going to keep me grounded. Noah and faith and summer and christian. And you. I’ve been emotionally drifting for so long and — and constantly searching, but i finally think I’ve found what I’m looking for.

Wait, oh, yes

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Can you save water running a

less-than-full dishwasher?

Abby: Look, I, um — I know that this is hard to hear and it’s not the answer that you wanted.

[ Sighs ] But please, just say something. Anything. I mean, good or bad, I can take it.

Devon: What’s left to be said? You know how I feel. I know how you guys feel, so there you go.

Abby: Well, if there’s anything that we can do to help.

Devon: Can’t imagine what that would be.

Abby: I know mariah, she needed some space, some distance, so I guess we would understand if you need that, too.

Devon: No, I’m — I’m not going anywhere.

Abby: Good, because we would miss you. Dom’s dad and I, we just — we want to make sure that you know that you will always have an important role in dominic’s life. Always. You’re always welcome. And we don’t want that to change. Dominic’s on a walk with louise right now, but he’ll be home soon if you want to stop by and say hi.

Devon: Nah. I’m okay.

Abby: Okay, well, um…when you want to come see him, dom will be therE. Okay. I’ll see you soon, I hope.

Devon: Yeah, of course.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Sharon: How am I part of your grand realization about life?

Nick: Because you are always going to be a big part of my life. But I’m talking about moving forward, and the way I’m gonna do that is by recommitting to my family, by putting my children first.

Sharon: But you’ve always done that.

Nick: I’m talking about even going further. This idea that I have involves noah, and I think it’s gonna be good for him and give him some stability, too.

Chance: Hey, nick.

Nick: What’s up, man?

Chance: How you doing?

Nick: Good. How’s my sister and handsome nephew?

Chance: I’m on my way home to them right now. I’ll send your love.

Nick: Please do.

Chance: Hi.

Rey: Alright, brother.

Chance: Hey, thanks for everything, man. I really appreciate it.

Rey: I’ll see you later.

Chance: Yes, sir.

Rey: So what’d I miss?

Nick: You know what? We’re gonna grab some beers and catch up on all that when you get a chance.

Rey: I’m gonna hold you to that.

Sharon: Are you leaving already?

Nick: Yeah, I got to go talk to noah, but we’ll catch up soon.

Rey: Alright, buddy. Take care, man.

Nick: Yeah.

Sharon: Hey, nick.

Nick: We’ll finish this conversation later, I promise.

Sharon: Okay.

Rey: We’re alone at last. What did I miss?

Sharon: Well, nick had a holiday epiphany about family, and it has more to do with noah, but he didn’t give me any details, so I’m kind of curious.

Amanda: Hello.

Devon: Hey.

Amanda: I can tell that your talk with abby didn’t go the way that you wanted.

Devon: [ Sighs ] YeP. Long story short, she said no to my request. She and chance are against giving me any kind of official visitation outside of their house.

Amanda: What reason did she give?

Devon: Doesn’t want to confuse dominic.

Amanda: Spending time with his godfather is confusing? Now, that’s a stretch. I’ll tell you what’s confusing — having his mother run away to a foreign country without telling anyone where she was going or why. I’m sorrY. Continue.

Devon: Nah, that’s okay. She said that she wants the three of them to focus on bonding as a family, and she’s worried that I will interfere with chance creating a real connection with dominic. And according to her, what I’m asking for is unnecessary ’cause he already has a mom and a dad.

Amanda: You have every right to be angry and disappointed. And you also have options.

Devon: Yeah, what options do I have?

Amanda: You can take legal action.

Abby: How lucky am I that i ran into you and ms. Louise, huh? Huh? And now…I got to take a picture of you because you look so cute all bundled up. Yes, you do. Yes, you do. Who is cuter than you? Let me tell you — nobody is cuter than you.

[ Gasps ] Can you smile for me? Can you give me the smile that you only give mama?

[ Gasps ] Oh. Your little face, it makes everything better. You know who else takes all the sad things and just puts them away, huh? Your dad. If you ever have a problem, you can always go to him. But where is your dad? I did not see his car outside. Should we call him? Voicemail. Hmm. Where did your daddy go? Wet dishes?

Chelsea: It’s brave of you to try to prove something to yourself, but we both know what kind of damage the newmans can cause.

Noah: True.

Chelsea: If you ask me, which you didn’t, my advice to you would be just don’t make yourself miserable.

Noah: Oh, well, being miserable definitely isn’t part of the plan. But if it comes to that, obviously I would — dad.

Nick: Chelsea.

Chelsea: Nick. Hi.

Nick: Wow, you look fantastic. How you doing?

Chelsea: So far, so good. Being back with connor again was exactly what I needed.

Nick: How does working at newman media fit into things?

Chelsea: Well, sometimes you just have to prove to yourself you can do something. And adam and I, we’re just, you know, figuring it out day by day.

Nick: Yeah, it’s good, i guess.

Chelsea: Yeah. But speaking of, I actually have to get work, start some designs.

Nick: It’s great seeing you.

Chelsea: It’s really good to see you, too. Bye, noah.

Noah: Welcome back, world traveler. How was milan?

Nick: It was illuminating.

Noah: Oh, yeah. How so?

Nick: I’ve got some ideas. All I ask is that you keep an open mind.

Devon: I don’t want to take chance and abby to court. It’S…

Amanda: It’s just an option. But let’s look at the facts. This has never been a typical donor situation.

Devon: I know that, but still, that’S…

Amanda: You are close friends with abby. You have been for years. She not only invited you into that boy’s life, but she entrusted you with him when she left the country. That is an indicator that she considers you dom’s de facto father.

[ Sighs ] I mean, she left you a note. She had no idea when she was gonna be home, and you dropped everything to be the father that that boy needed. You rearranged your life. You put your job on hold just to be there for that boy every minute of every day.

Devon: I know, can’t argue with that.

Amanda: So then just at least consider what I am proposing. I can’t make any promises, but there are some factors that are working in your favor.

Devon: The way you’re talking about this, have you, like, researched it or what?

Amanda: No, but having worked on the original contract, I know what we can use to build an argument.

Devon: Well, hypothetically, what would you say?

Amanda: You’re the biological father. You can petition the court for visitation just like many grandparents do with much success. Plus, chance was not there when you signed the original contract.

Devon: Well, does that help us or hurt us?

Amanda: It complicates things, but your legal agreement was solely with abby.

Devon: No, I hear everything that you’re saying, but…I’m not even entirely sure where abby’s coming from in all this. I don’t know if there’s a deeper reason that she’s fighting me or, you know…

Amanda: What do you mean?

Devon: I don’t know. I don’t know if she feels threatened or if she’s trying to protect chance. Either way, the only thing i know for certain is that if i take them to court, it’s gonna affect everybody, including dominiC.

Dominic: [ Crying ]

Abby: I know. That’s how I felt when I had to talk to your godfather. Yeah, so he might not be coming to visit anytime soon. But it was the right thing to do. And how amazing is it that your dad is home and he is safe. We’re all together.

[ Gasps ] And look, there he is. There’s your daddy. Say, “hi, daddy.”

Chance: Well, hey, gorgeous.

Abby: Hi. Are you gonna say hi to your son?

Chance: Yes, I am. Hey, there, buddy. Hey, there, buddy. Are you having a good day? Yeah, ’cause your daddy sure is, right?

Abby: Well, that’s good to hear. I know, I know. We were so worried about you when we got home and you weren’t here.

Chance: Oh, yeah, I’m sorry about that. I was with rey.

Abby: Oh?

Chance: Yeah, yeah, you won’t believe this case he’s working on, abby. It’s — it’s cool stuff. It’s fun stuff.

Abby: Wait. You’ve already gone back to work on the force without telling me?

Rey: Oh, looks like you’re setting up shop here.

Chelsea: I promise I’ll buy a ton of coffee.

Rey: Being cooped up at an office all day can’t be good for your creative energy or whatever you need to sketch.

Chelsea: Ooh, listen to you, sounding like a real design expert.

Rey: [ Chuckles ] What I’m saying is you could probably use a change of scenery, huh?

Chelsea: Oh, you have no idea.

Rey: How’s the new job?

Chelsea: It’s not going the way I imagined. I knew working with adam would present its fair share of challenges, but there are other surprising downsides.

Rey: Like what?

Chelsea: You really want to know?

Rey: Well, I’m asking. I’m interested. That’s kind of how it works.

Chelsea: You know, usually when someone gets poisoned and they encounter the person responsible, they’re not this nice. But look at you, asking me about my job, about my creative process.

Rey: Well, should we talk about the weather instead?

Chelsea: It’s a miracle you’re even talking to me. No one more of a reason to hate me than you. Yet you invited me to join you on your anniversary and new year’S. Here you are reaching out again. You’re a really good guy, rey.

New vicks vapostick. Strong soothing vapors…

Rey: Yeah, I’m not such a great guy. In fact, there are more than a few people behind bars who have the opposite opinion of me. So back to the original question.

Chelsea: What’s bugging me at work that drove me to turn crimson lights into my own personal workspace?

Rey: That’s the one.

Chelsea: I mean, who wouldn’t want to work here, right? The constant parade of people, the aroma of coffee and pastries in the air.

Rey: You know, when I get an answer like that during my interrogations, it usually means a person’s being evasive.

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] What’s bothering me doesn’t really matter, you know? There’s nothing I can do to change it anyway. But you asking me about it, especially out of more than just politeness, I appreciate that. Thank you.

Rey: I don’t know why it’s such a big deal.

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] I was feeling sorry for myself because I don’t have a ton of people I can talk to these days, so I’m not gonna repay you for your kindness by boring you with my issues. Maybe I’ll take you up on the talking thing some other time.

Rey: Whenever you want. I’ll let you get back to work. What are you smiling about?

Sharon: She’s right. You really are a good guy.

Noah: So let’s hear about these grand ideas that you hatched while you were in milan.

Nick: Some of them relate to you.

Noah: Okay.

Nick: Just tell me, is it too late to talk you out of working for your grandfather and adam?

Noah: Huh. You see, that’s — that’s funny, ’cause last I checked, you said you were supportive of me making my own decisions. Did something change?

Nick: No, you are a man. You can do whatever you want. But I’m still the best father in the world.

Noah: That’s all true. So what’s up?

Nick: Maybe there are greener pastures out there for you.

Noah: Where would that be?

Nick: Right here. Come work for me.

Chance: No, I haven’t put my badge back on yet, I promise. I was just getting the lay of the land, you know, getting a feel for what’s happening since I’ve been gone so that when I do decide to go back, I’ll be caught up, you know?

Dominic: [ Crying ]

Abby: [ Speaks indistinctly ]

Chance: Sorry.

Abby: Well, that’s a relief.

Chance: Yeah, yeah, I mean, i would never go back without talking to you about it. Are you serious? Come on, but I’m not gonna lie, abby, it was — it was nice to get my feet wet again. I mean, rey’s working on this case that’s, like, right in my wheelhouse, right up my alley, so it just got me excited to get my detective skills back to use again, you know?

Abby: Well, I haven’t seen you this excited in a long time.

Chance: I know, I know. It’s the case, abby, it’s just got me pumped. You won’t believe it, it’s this guy, he’s — he’s missing right now, and, uh… well, you know, I’m not gonna burden you with all the details. I’m probably not supposed to talk about it anyways, but I got some theories on my own that i want to put to test when I get back to the force officially.

Amanda: I am not trying to tell you what to do. This is your decision to make, and you know abby a lot better than I do, so…

Devon: Yeah, but I still want your perspective on the situation.

Amanda: Well, it concerns me that chance and abby are drawing a line in the sand. It makes me wonder what their next move will be.

Devon: I don’t think they’re gonna retaliate.

Amanda: Do you know that for sure?

Devon: I mean, abby went out of her way again to promise me I’m always gonna have a place in dom’s life. You know? And at the end of the day, I’m the one who agreed to father their child without any written stipulations on visitation. So that’s — that’s on me. Back then, all I wanted was to just help them start a family.

Amanda: A loving family that you would be a part of. Isn’t that what they said?

Devon: Yeah. I just need to continue being there for dominic, however i can.

Lily: [ Blows noisemaker ]

[ Chuckles ] I’d ask you what’s on your mind, but I think I already know, ’cause I’ve been thinking the same thing. Victoria and her demands.

Billy: Once she was onto us, there was no way to know how she was going to react. I didn’t expect this.

Lily: Well, I’ll tell you one thing, the woman sure knows what she wants.

Billy: Whole purpose of this plan was vindication. To get victor and adam to admit that they set me up.

Lily: Right, that’s the only reason why I went along with this plan to begin with.

Billy: Except now, for victor and adam to do that, they’re also going to have to admit that the allegations about ashland’s past are true.

Lily: Which victoria will never allow.

Billy: And I will not get my opportunity to expose victor and adam as the criminals they are.

Lily: Here’s a thought. Why don’t we just forget about the whole thing? Right? Just forget about the revenge plot. Let’s just move on with our lives.

Billy: [ Sighs ]

Lily: Come on, just at least consider it.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Billy: [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: Oh. I guess you all had too much fun last night you couldn’t clean up.

Victoria: Phyllis.

[ Clears throat ] I hope you had a wonderful new year’s eve.

Phyllis: Yes, it was wonderful. You know, champagne and dinner. It was spectacular, actually.

Chelsea: I’m surprised to see you up and out so early.

Sally: I could say the same thing about you. Double espresso to go, please.

Chelsea: I had a quiet night at home. Now I’m just killing time while I wait to pick up connor. What about you? Did you ring in the new year in style? With anyone special?

Sally: Ta-da!

Adam: Was the emergency that you ran out of tape for the decorations or…?

Sally: The emergency is that it is almost midnight.

Adam: Right. And we said that we were not doing anything for new year’s eve.

Sally: Right. And as you can tell by the decor, we are not even acknowledging new year’S. All of the other holidays, sure, but there were no rules about that.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Okay, so this is a loophole.

Sally: Yes. But the clock is ticking, and we’re running out of time if we want to not celebrate before midnight.

Adam: [ Chuckles ]

Adam: Chloe, I don’t need to explain myself to you, okay? Want your clothes to smell freshly washed

Lily: What is so important that we have to meet victoria right now on new year’s day? Like, I don’t appreciate her ordering us around like this.

Billy: I hear you, believe me. I do not like the fact that clearing my name is now in victoria’s hands. But I’ve got to swallow my pride right now and think about the bigger picture. It’s still possible to get vindication if adam comes after me. And I hit him with a libel suit that cripples newman media, victoria takes over their company, and I get to run it.

Lily: What makes you so sure she’s gonna hold up her end of the bargain? I don’t think ashland’s gonna be too keen on you running his former media company.

Billy: I feel like I know victoria well enough to trust that she wouldn’t betray me in that way.

Lily: [ Scoffs ] Right, well, I wish I were as sure as you are.

Billy: Lily, I’ve gone over all the options. This is still the best one.

Lily: Right, and when you say “all the options,” does that include you coming to chancellor with me?

Billy: I can’t do that.

Lily: Why not?

Billy: Because I need to earn that job. Because right now my reputation is in shambles, and if I go work with you at chancellor, it’s gonna feel like a hand-me-down, and I cannot stomach the fact that victor and adam are gonna get off scot free. At least this way it cripples newman media, okay? And they have to suffer the humiliation of watching me run their former company. So I’m gonna go meet with victoria. And I really hope that you come with me.

Phyllis: But, victoria, you can’t — you can’t be serious that you found your dream man in ashland locke, I mean, given all the information that nick found out about him. Okay. Uh, no one’s perfect. Yeah, no one’s perfect. So, anyway, you’re saying that you’re so deliriously happy, but yet, on the first day of the year, you’re here bright and early.

Victoria: Would you please have someone send over a carafe of coffee? Three cups.

Adam: Why are you here?

Chloe: To save you from making a huge mistake that could destroy everything you’ve been trying to build.

Adam: What are you talking about? Newman fashion is doing great.

Chloe: You know that’s not what I’m talking about. Sally and chelsea.

Adam: Okay. Let’s not go there, okay?

Chloe: Well, I wish I didn’t have to, but sally was here last night, wasn’t she? I have been warning her to steer clear of you, but she just won’t listen to me, and I’ve been telling the same to chelsea, but it’s like yelling into a void. So here I am to try to persuade you.

Adam: So you are the voice of reason, chloe.

Chloe: In this case, I am. I need you to stay away from sally and chelsea for your own good. They are ticking time bombs. If you take up with one of them, the other is going to blow up your life, and you won’t have to worry about finding new sponsors or selling ads because your fashion platform is going to implode.

Adam: Okay, that sounds like a bit of a threat.

Chloe: No, it’s a fact. If this work situation turns into a love triangle, I don’t think I’m gonna be able to keep these two women away from each other’s throats. And I, for one, want to see newman fashion succeed, and you would be a fool not to want the same thing, too. We have become one of your most profitable divisions. And it won’t look good if you’re business renaissance crashes and burns because you weren’t able to keep your personal and professional life separate. I would appreciate it if you would take my warning seriously.

Sally: I was with adam until the clock struck midnight.

Chelsea: Working till midnight on new year’s eve.

Sally: Yes, actually. We got caught up discussing some new design ideas, but it was all above board.

Chelsea: Oh, of course, of course. I wasn’t implying anything. Adam made it very clear to me he has zero romantic interest in you, so you don’t have to explain yourself to me. I’m just happy that you didn’t have to be alone on new year’s like you were alone on christmas.

Sally: Thank you.

Chelsea: I’m guessing adam felt sorry for you, too.

Sally: Yeah, yep, yep. Adam took pity on me. I had all this vodka and caviar and no one to celebrate with, so after we finally got done working, he agreed to share it with me.

Chelsea: Nice.

Sally: Mm-hmm.

Chelsea: Well, since I’m here and I’ve got some free time, why don’t you talk me through the ideas you and adam discussed — before the booze and caviar came out. Hey, come here!

Phyllis: Thank you, crystal. Amazing. Look at that. So, victoria, can I get you anything else, like a fruit cup or a croissant? Imaginary friends?

Victoria: Oh, that’s alright, because my party is here. Thank you guys for coming.

Lily: We almost didn’T.

Phyllis: Oh, wow, lookit. Your new year’s resolution to bury the hatchet is already going awry.

Victoria: I ordered coffee, not unsolicited commentary.

Phyllis: Oh. I’ll be right over here.

Victoria: Please, have a seat.

Billy: So, vick, what is so important that you’ve got here this early?

Lily: On new year’s day.

Victoria: I received word that adam is having a meeting here today. I thought that it would be a good opportunity for us to kick this plan into overdrive so that we can get some real results.

Billy: I didn’t know you had so much intention on taking such an active role in this plan.

Lily: And what do you mean by “overdrive”?

Victoria: I just think that we need to stop making this all about how badly billy is spiraling, because it’s old news. That’s why adam has not taken the bait.

Billy: Mm-hmm.

Lily: Okay, and so what do you suggest that we do instead?

Victoria: I suggest that we start pushing other buttons, pinpoint his vulnerabilities, hit him where it hurts. And then he will retaliate.

Billy: Well, I know how to do that. If I’m being honest, I actually enjoy it sometimes, but I didn’t think about how to do that right here, right now.

Lily: Yeah, or why you would be involved.

Victoria: When adam gets here, I’ll set the stage. I’ll go after you for something like not showing up for some holiday thing with the kids before they went to boarding school, and then you can take it from there. You can tell him that he must know exactly what it’s like to be a bad dad.

Lily: Wait, I’m sorry. We haven’t even discussed this. And why does it seem like all of a sudden you think that you’re in charge now?

Victoria: Uh, because I am.

Sally: Well, I know chloe is keen to launch the design part of the business, so I was thinking that maybe we could start off with a line of resort wear, and if we work like crazy, we could get it ready by next season.

Chelsea: That’s a hard market to break into, not to mention a shrinking demographic.

Sally: I think it’s more of a niche, ready for a fresh approach. And we have the attention of people who go on expensive vacations because of my wedding dress design. Yes, the demo is a bit smaller than most, but they spend money.

Chelsea: You make a decent argument, but I’m just not feeling it. What are your other ideas?

Sally: Well, while we are gearing up to design our first clothing line, we still have to feed the beast, so the platform needs content.

Chelsea: What are your thoughts on that?

Sally: I would love to do a feature pairing makeup with different looks, like how food magazines does wine pairings. Like what lipstick goes well with the season’s hottest trends. We could do “lipstick and lingerie” or “does this eyeshadow make my dress look fab?”

Chelsea: Mm, you know, I’m not really a fan of cutesy headlines. I think we need to focus on doing fashion well before we branch off into makeup, so it’s a bit off-brand.

Sally: Honestly, I think you’re being a little too limited in your thinking. The content that I have created so far is what’s made the platform a success, so I think i know what the site needs, especially if I’m gonna be the face of the brand.

Chloe: Hi. I got your text about meeting for a coffee. I didn’t realize sally was gonna be here.

Chelsea: We decided to have an impromptu company meeting.

Sally: Mm-hmm, and she just shot down all my best ideas, including the lipstick pairings, which you loved.

Chloe: Okay, well, I can see why chelsea, at first glance, might want to tweak some of your ideas. All ideas could be made better. So why don’t we, you know, listen to her thoughts and try to incorporate her input? It’ll be a win-win.

Chelsea: Okay, you know what? You can take it from here. I’ve got to pick up connor anyway. We’ll do coffee another time.

Lily: You realize that none of this goes anywhere without billy and me, so I think you can dial back the orders.

Victoria: Oh, come on, don’t be so sensitive. This is my plan now. I mean, hey, look, the pressure’s off the two of you. You can just relax. Adam’s here. Let’s do this.

Billy: Okay, stop. Not so fast. Okay everyone,

Billy: Hey, what are you doing here?

Traci: Well, hello to you, too, billy.

Billy: I’m sorry, traci. I didn’t mean it that way. I just didn’t expect to see you.

Traci: Am I not allowed to be here? Are you up to something you don’t want me to know about?

Billy: Excuse me?

Traci: These are rhetorical questions. Jack has told me exactly what you’re up to.

Billy: Why the hell did he do that?

Traci: Because he didn’t want me to worry that you were wrecking your life again. And I’m actually grateful that one of my brothers thought to include me and put me in the loop. Look, I’m going to leave you with a little warning. I will be keeping an eye on things to make sure that they don’t get out of control, but I am not here to keep tabs on you. I know it’s a shock, but I do have a life. I’m here to make a massage appointment, so please excuse me.

[ Sighs ]

Billy: We need to stand down.

Victoria: Why?

Billy: Because traci knows. Jack told her what I’m up to.

Victoria: Hold on a second. Back up. How did jack find out?

Lily: Because I told billy to tell jack ’cause I thought it was cruel to let his brother think his downward spiral was real.

Victoria: Oh, whereas it was fine for me to believe that you were going off the rails?

Billy: No, but I also knew that I couldn’t trust you with the secret.

Victoria: And yet you felt like you could trust jack? Who told traci? Uh, who else did jack tell?

Billy: Traci is the only problem right now, but it is a big one because there is no one that hates lies and deception more than she does, and if I try something in front of her, she will call me out in a heartbeat.

Lily: Which is why I think that we shouldn’t move forward with this at all. There are way too many variables for this thing to go off track.

Victoria: No, I disagree. Now that I have the tangible goal of getting newman media away from adam, I want to move even more quickly. I’m not throwing in the towel because of one little hiccup.

Lily: Oh, I’m sorry, you’re not throwing in the towel? I mean, you’ve been part of this plan for, what, two seconds?

Victoria: Yes, and you’re just gonna have to accept that because I’m not going anywhere. And honestly, the two of you are lucky that I got involved because billy’s plan was so transparent, I saw right through it. In fact, clearly, you need me to make this work. And if I know billy, which I do, when he gets an idea, I’m guessing that he is not gonna give up.

Billy: Okay, can we just take a breath right now and, you know, put a stop to this next level? Because there is a real possibility that traci could blow this thing out of the water.

Traci: And I would like the works — nails, facial, and a massage.

Phyllis: Okay, that sounds great. You know what? Um…let’s set that up, but it may take a bit.

Traci: Oh, that’s perfectly fine. I’ll be able to relax here with a cup of coffee right by the bar.

Phyllis: Okay, great. Let’s talk to henry. He’s the spa manager, and we’ll get you the best masseuse.

Traci: Thank you. Well, happy new year, adam. Oh, my gosh, I haven’t seen you in ages.

Adam: Hello, traci.

Traci: I’m here for a day of pampering and beauty. How about you? I bet it’s not the exact same agenda.

Adam: Eh, I was supposed to have a meeting, but I don’t think the guy’s gonna show up.

Traci: Oh, I’m sorry to hear that.

Adam: Mm.

Traci: Now, in spite of your mishap with your meeting, I hope the new year has brought you happiness and I hope you’re well.

Adam: I am doing pretty well. Compared to some people.

Chloe: So what happened with chelsea and what did you say to her?

Sally: All I did was pitch her ideas, and all she did was tell me that they stink. She’s obviously jealous of me. That is her problem, not mine.

Chloe: What kind of jealousy are we talking about — professional or personal?

Sally: A little bit of both.

Chloe: Okay, I could buy a bit of professional envy. She has been out of the game for a little bit and you’ve been getting a lot of attention, but why would chelsea be personally jealous? You promised me you weren’t going to cross any lines with adam.

Sally: I didn’t cross any lines. Yes, okay, I spent some time with adam last night, but that’s it. I got the sense that chelsea already figured as much, so i thought that it would be best to just tell her. But I assured her that it was strictly work.

Chloe: You promised me that you were gonna stop chasing adam and you were gonna focus on your work. So what, have you been lying to me?

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Sally: I promise you, nothing happened with adam last night. It was not a date, and I went to great lengths to make sure that was crystal clear.

Chloe: Yeah. Nothing says work like a bottle of vodka and caviar.

Sally: How do you know about that?

Sally: I stopped by the office to tell adam that he was playing with fire when it comes to you and chelsea. I am just at my wit’s end with all of you. I have done everything to try and deescalate the situation, but you just won’t listen to me. So am I going to regret trying to make things work between you and chelsea?

Sally: I think you’re overreacting. Yes, there’s a rivalry, little bit, between me and chelsea right now, but it’s gonna affect our job performance. If anything, it’s gonna push us to be even better.

Chloe: You know, I wish that I could believe that. If I thought that you were just trying to get ahead, I would chalk it up to the drama of working in fashion, but that’s not all it is. Do you have actual feelings for adam that you can’t let go of?

Sally: This is not high school. I am not trying to steal your bff’s boyfriend. Alright, so why don’t we just put the personal stuff aside and focus on the business? I have to get back to the office to rework some of my ideas that chelsea just torpedoed.

Chloe: [ Sighs ]

Traci: I can’t help noticing that you keep glancing at my brother.

Adam: Hmm. I assure you that I plan to steer clear of billy.

Traci: Well, that’s good, because I have no illusions you two will ever be friends, but i think you can keep a safe and civil distance.

Adam: You really do see the good in everyone, don’t you? I like that about you, but unfortunately, not everyone is good.

Traci: Yes, I know that. But I hope you’re not saying anything specific about billy.

Billy: Oh, no, it was just a general observation.

Traci: I’m glad, because my brother has fought his way back from the same kind of darkness that you have embraced.

Billy: I’ve done my best to change.

Traci: Oh, I know, and what you’ve done for faith newman, just incredible. And you’re in business with victor, that’s a new chapter for you, right? Yeah, but I have a feeling that you like the battle too much. I think you live for conflict.

Phyllis: Traci’s right.

Adam: I could say the same thing about billy.

Traci: [ Chuckles ] Yes, and it would be true. But I’ve given him the same advice. I really hope that you two will just stop. One of my wishes for the new year is that you will drop this feud.

Adam: I feel the same way.

Phyllis: Hey, adam, looks like you’ve been stood up. Maybe you can find your colleague back at your place of business.

Adam: No, I have an assistant and a cellphone, so I’ll be okay.

Phyllis: Yeah, well, you’re fraternizing with one of our guests, and this isn’t just any guest, this is traci abbott, world-renowned author.

Traci: [ Laughs ]

Adam: For the record, she struck up a conversation with me.

Traci: I did, I did.

Adam: Yeah. But I don’t want to incur the wrath of the billy abbott fan club, so I’ll take off. But just wanted to let you know, everything that happened with gaines, it was billy’s fault. He brought it on himself. He’s his own worst enemy.

Traci: You know, for the longest time, people said the same thing about you.

Adam: That is true. That’s why I had to work hard to repair my reputation.

Phyllis: [ Clears throat ]

Adam: And surprising that the two champions of billy don’t see him in a downward spiral. He’s in a tailspin, even if you don’t want to see it. Victoria. What an interesting way to start the new year. It’s odd that you have spent the morning with your ex rather than your spouse. Must be something big to bring you all together like this.

Billy: You know what, adam? It’s really got nothing to do with you. But we are talking about our parenting plans for the kids next break. Totally innocuous. Of course you are going to have your eyes peeled just in case i make another misstep.

Adam: Well, they’re kind of hard to miss these days. I’m getting an early start on my day, too, so I will see you all later.

Billy: See you later.

[ Sighs ] Thank you for not saying anything.

Victoria: It wasn’t the right time.

[ Sighs ] But this isn’t over.

Traci: Hey, thanks for having my back with adam.

Phyllis: Yeah, my pleasure.

Traci: He’s right, you know. Billy does bring a lot of this on himself.

Phyllis: Uh, yes, I did. I understand. We’re a lot alike in that way. Um…you know, I’ve tried to change. I’ve made mistakes.

Traci: Is there something specific you’re talking around?

Phyllis: Um, what does that mean?

Traci: I just happen to know that you were supposed to spend christmas eve with jack, but you never showed up.

Phyllis: I mean —

[ Sighs ] Wow, look at you, you just waltzed in here and made a spa appointment and then decided to drop this bomb. I’m impressed. Good work.

Traci: [ Sighs ] I know that your history with jack is really complicated. So is your present. But one thing is for sure — the two of you are very good friends. That will never change. Especially not because of his nosy sisters. How did olay top expensive creams?

Victoria: I’ll be in touch. In the meantime, I think you need to be on the lookout for the next opportunity to advance our goal.

Billy: Sure, we’ll get right on that.

Lily: Or maybe not.

Traci: Hey, everybody. It’s great to see you all up bright and early, seizing the day and the new year.

Lily: Well, you know, early bird catches the worm and all.

Traci: [ Chuckles ] Yes.

Billy: You know, traci, um, let me just be clear. Victoria knows all about the plan, and she is in support.

Traci: Is that so?

Billy: Yes, and I know that jack is not thrilled, but I’m hoping that you can see this from my perspective and understand that it is harmless.

Traci: All I see is the potential to do a bunch of damage.

Billy: Clearly you have your reservations, but I’m hoping that you’re not gonna say anything to adam or anyone else.

Traci: I don’t know, billy. Come on, I could just blow it any moment. I could explode trying to keep back the truth.

Billy: Thank you for the vote of confidence.

Traci: I’m sorry, honey, but please, why would you do this? Why would you want to engage with adam? Couldn’t you just step back and enjoy your beautiful children, your amazing partner, the blessing of a healthy relationship with the mother of your kids? Come on, billy.

Billy: I have my reasons, which I’m not gonna get into right now.

Traci: Victoria, please, for johnny and katie’s sake, would you rethink this?

Victoria: I always put my children first. And I have complete faith in billy. So, now that we have made our stances clear, I need to get back to the office.

Chelsea: Hey. Am I interrupting something?

Adam: [ Clears throat ]

Chelsea: I’m on my way to pick up connor at his friend’s house, but I just wanted to pop in if you had a minute.

Adam: Yeah, of course. Listen, I’m sorry about last night. I know that you were upset, and I hated having to rush out of there like that and leaving you alone.

Chelsea: Don’t worry about it. I was overly emotional. I think the holidays just bring up a lot of memories for me, and I momentarily got caught up in them, but in the bright light of day, I’m doing fine. In fact, I was thinking we could take connor to lunch, since he’s leaving for school in a couple days.

Adam: Yeah. Yeah, let’s do it. His holiday break has gone by very fast, so we need to grab as much time as we can with him.

Chelsea: Yeah. So did everything work out with your work emergency last night? Should I be worried?

Adam: It was nothing that you need to concern yourself with. But I do have some exciting news for you.

Chelsea: Lay it on me.

Adam: Jack and I were discussing jabot possibly coming on board as a sponsorship for the fashion platform.

Chelsea: Huh. Really? Well, that’s odd timing because I just saw sally spectra, and she pitched me a similar idea. The whole fashion-makeup tie-in. I told her it was a stretch, considering we need to focus on fashion and not spread ourselves too thin with makeup, but now — now it makes sense that you guys discussed it because she was so confident when I told her i opposed the idea.

Adam: We talked about it briefly. But, look, I’m just looking for new revenue streams, so if you think jabot’s a bad idea, I will defer to you and chloe.

Chelsea: Okay, okay, I’ve had enough mind games for one morning, so I’m just gonna come out and say it. I know sally was your “work emergency” last night. She told me the two of you rang in the new year together.

Adam: I don’t know why she felt the need to mention that.

Chelsea: Well, she acted like she was trying to be transparent, but I think she was trying to mark her territory.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Chelsea, I don’t belong to anybody.

Chelsea: I just wish you had been honest with me about why you left my place last night.

Adam: I didn’t know entirely what was going on when I got that text. And, chelsea, you were upset. I did not want to make the situation worse.

Chelsea: I hate that you ended the year thinking that i was such a mess.

Adam: I don’t think that. It’s normal to have a little angst around the holidays.

Chelsea: Well, apparently, according to sally, you two weren’t melancholy at all. In fact, you were brainstorming, coming up with a lot of ideas, being really productive.

Adam: Yeah, yeah, I guess we did do some of that.

Chelsea: Some of that? What, there was more to it?

Adam: [ Sighs ] We ended up watching an old movie, that’s all.

Chelsea: I need to know how serious this is, adam, because i have to work with this woman, so if there’s something going on between the two of you, that’s gonna be a problem for me.

Adam: There’s nothing serious going on between me and sally. And even if there were, it isn’t your concern anymore. You need to let go of the past and move on. My personal life is not your business anymore until it involves connor, and this isn’t like that at all.

Chelsea: But it might be in the future? Sounds like you’re leaving the door open for that. Are you falling for sally spectra? Are you tired of clean clothes that just don’t smell clean?

Adam: Chelsea, we can’t keep circling back to this. I told you, I am not dating sally. So if it’s gonna be a problem for the two of you work together, you have to figure it out.

Chelsea: Fine, I will.

Adam: Good.

[ Clears throat ] Is there something else that you wanted to discuss?

Chelsea: Yes, actually. I have officially decided to sell the penthouse. After last night, I realize it’s too painful for me to live there, and it’s not good for connor either.

Adam: I understand. It’s your decision.

Chelsea: You know, and for the record, sally doesn’t deserve you. I know the type. I’ve seen go-getters like her my whole life. They can’t see beyond what’s in it for them, and frankly, I am shocked that you haven’t been able to figure this out about her yet.

Sally: Chelsea, I thought you were headed off to get connor.

Chelsea: I am. I had to discuss something with adam first.

Sally: Great. Hey, I think I left a file in here earlier. Do you mind if I look for it?

Adam: Go right ahead.

Chloe: You know, you could just come back later.

Chelsea: I’ll see you when we have our date with connor.

Adam: Yep.

Chloe: Chelsea, chelsea. Look, I know that you’re not that happy with me right now, but I am just trying to keep the peace.

Chelsea: Sally is the one putting on a show in there.

Chloe: Well, you two are constantly goading each other.

Chelsea: I beg to differ. I have been pleasant, yet direct, with a woman who works for me. Sally doesn’t seem to realize that I’m her boss. You know, I shot down a couple of her ideas earlier, and she’s being insubordinate because she thinks she has adam on her side.

Chloe: That’s a problem, and we will make sure that it doesn’t happen again.

Chelsea: Well, I know how we fix it. We fire her.

Sally: Chelsea’s a bit moody today, huh?

Adam: Just cut it out. Right now.

Billy: Believe me, I don’t like it anymore than you do, but victoria’s right. We need to force adam into action. Going after him as a father does not sit well with me at all, but exposing his relationship with his dad, that is where adam is vulnerable. I mean, he keeps talking about me falling into old patterns. The amount of times that victor’s betrayed him, he keeps running back to him like a scared little animal. He’s going to fail at newman media, okay? He does everything else. And…[Sighs] You are being awfully quiet. What are you thinking?

Lily: I don’t like this. Everything has changed — everything. Suddenly this is now victoria’s chess game, and you and I are the pawns. Like, I’m not — I’m not doing this. I refuse to let either one of us be used by her.

Victoria: Traci. What are you doing here?

Traci: [ Sighs ] You left before we had a chance to finish our conversation before.

Victoria: I thought that i made my position very clear.

Traci: Oh, you did. But you didn’t give me a chance to articulate mine. This plan of billy’s, it seems to me very dangerous, and if you’re supporting him in this because you’re serving some personal agenda, I am not gonna stand by and do nothing.

Victoria: You know that i have the utmost respect for you, but this is between billy and me.

Traci: No, you know, I don’t think it is. Billy is my brother. I love him and I feel an obligation to do everything in my power to protect him, even if it’s from himself.

Victoria: Well, I think it’s wonderful that you care about billy, but when jack told you what’s going on, I think he painted an inaccurate picture of the situation.

Traci: It used to matter to you, too, to protect billy. I mean, we worked together to help him overcome his gambling addiction. And now, I hate to say it, but i think you’re using him.

Victoria: No, you are underestimating him. Billy and I are equal partners in this. We both stand to benefit if we take adam down.

Traci: Well, I hope that’s true, because if billy suffers at all from anything that’s about to happen, it’s on your conscience.

Chelsea: I keep wondering how we messed things up so badly. What we had was extraordinary. I mean, our family, this beautiful home…and we let it all just fall apart. I mean…how could we do that?

Adam: Chelsea, I don’t think that revisiting our break-up is gonna do either one of us any good. Okay? I own all the mistakes I made, and I caused you a tremendous amount of pain. I was toxic for you.

Chelsea: You’re taking responsibility for the damage?

Adam: I am.

Chelsea: Okay, well, that’s — that’s very noble of you, adam, but we both know my actions are what finally broke us. I just… I have so many regrets. I just wish I could go back and fix things.

Adam: But you can’T. And there’s no value in going down this road, chelsea.

Chelsea: Just listen to me, okay? I have to say this. I know there is still something between us. Can you honestly tell me there is no chance we can recapture the love and connection we once had?

Chance: Yeah, keep on sleeping, buddy. You keep on sleeping. Your mom’s had a lot on her plate lately, so I want to show her a really special night tonight, okay? My man.

Abby: [ Sighs ] Happy new year!

Sharon: Same to you.

Rey: Hey. Place looks great.

Abby: Thank you. We dressed it up a bit to rise to the level of our guests. Sharon, you look incredible.

Sharon: Oh, thank you. That’s so sweet.

Abby: Let me show you to your table.

Rey: Thank you. We didn’t think you’d be here tonight.

Abby: Well, I am headed home to chance and the baby right after this. I just wanted to make sure our most important guests were taken care of. We have a special menu for the evening, including a signature cocktail.

Rey: Ooh.

Sharon: Oh, wow, I feel so important.

Abby: Well, please, enjoy your special night.

Sharon: We will.

Rey: Thank you.

[ Clears throat ] Happy anniversary.

Sharon: Happy anniversary.

Amanda: Mm.

Sharon: Hard to believe it’s been a whole year.

Rey: Yeah. We haven’t gotten very far in that time.

Sharon: What do you mean?

Rey: Well, it feels like we haven’t traveled more than a couple feet since our wedding, since it happened right over there.

Sharon: Yeah, that was a magical night.

Rey: It was. And our love grows stronger with each passing day.

Sharon: I agree. And I have very high hopes for 2022, also.

Rey: Mm, I don’t know, i can’t imagine being happier than I am right now.

Sharon: Well, you know what would make the new year even better? Is if you and I just spent more time together.

Rey: Oh. Okay. I like that idea. Tell me what else is on your list.

Sharon: I’m pretty content right now. I’m just glad that we’re both healthy and happy, and I want more of the same. And for the kids, too. Faith is in a much better place now than she was a year ago, and mariah and tessa are starting a family together. I know that the adoption process will be a lot, but I think they’re up for it, and I just think that they’re gonna make great parents.

Rey: I think you’re right about that. It’s been nice having noah here, too.

Sharon: Yeah, I know he’s been going through a lot, and he’s still not ready to talk about whatever happened in london, but I think he’s doing better now than when he first arrived.

Rey: Yeah. You know, whatever’s going on with him, between you and nick and everybody here that cares for him, he’s in the right place.

Sharon: Nick’s been struggling himself latelY.

Rey: Ah. He’ll figure it out. You and the kids are a source of strength for him.

Sharon: Well, he values your friendship, too. That’s why he was best man in our wedding.

Rey: Yeah, well, we’re family. And there’s nothing that family can’t get through when we work together.

Sharon: And you have a way of making me feel like everything’s gonna be okay.

Rey: [ Chuckles ] It is the start to a new year. No better time for optimism. Anything’s possible.

[ Door opens ]

Abby: Hi.

Chance: Hey.

Abby: [ Gasps ] Look at all of this!

Chance: You like it?

Abby: Uh, I love it. You did all of this while I was at society? I was not gone very long.

Chance: I move fast.

Abby: You certainly do.

Chance: Mm-hmm, and there’s dinner in the oven.

Abby: But, I mean…

Chance: Oh, no, don’t you even worry. Dominic is fast asleep, and he actually agreed that you needed some pampering tonight, so he’s giving you the night off.

Abby: He can do that?

Chance: Yeah, yeah, sure. He was actually really adamant about you having a good time tonight. You should’ve seen him — so forceful.

Abby: Well, you didn’t have to go to all this trouble, but I’m glad you did.

[ Chuckles ] Oops, we forgot to put away an ornament.

Chance: Oh, well, yeah, that — that’s a special one, huh? I couldn’t just throw it up in a box in the attic. Just couldn’t do it.

Abby: It’s my favorite.

Chance: Yeah.

Abby: I remember when you gave it to me. Yeah, it seemed like a distant dream.

Chance: [ Chuckles ]

Abby: And now we have a new beginning with baby dom. I’m just so grateful that we were able to celebrate this holiday season together as a family.

Chance: Oh.

Adam: Chelsea, we have talked about this. Okay, we will always share a connection, but we’re in a different place now. And I think that is a great place. Don’t you think?

Chelsea: Sure.

Adam: Okay, well, then getting back together, even if there are some feelings between us, would be a mistake.

Chelsea: I understand you’re worried about what would happen if we try and we fail, but this can’t be the end of our story, adam. I mean, we — we could end up stronger than ever.

Adam: I think you need to ask yourself if this is really what you want. I mean, is this really about rekindling our relationship or is this about trying to prove to yourself that you’ve — you’ve healed emotionally?

Chelsea: Why can’t it be both? I understand that in order to have a future together, I have to prove to you and to myself that I’m in a better place. It will take time and it will take a lot of work, but…I’m willing to do it. It’s worth it. Isn’t it?

Adam: [ Sighs ]

Chelsea: Adam. We owe it to ourselves to see what is possible. And I have to tell you, spending time with you and connor over christmas, I mean, it made me so happy — happier than I’ve been in a really long time — and i got the sense that you felt the same way.

Adam: [ Sighs ] I had fun. It was a great time, really. And it meant a lot to me to see connor and how happy he was seeing us all together, chelsea, but —

Chelsea: Our son is proof that together, adam, we can make something perfect, something so beautiful.

Adam: Chelsea, that is not enough of a reason.

Chelsea: When connor looks at us, he sees all good things. Despite everything we’ve been through, despite all of the mistakes we’ve made, our soon looks at us and he sees love. I want to be like him. I want to focus on the positive. I want to concentrate on all of the ways that we are great together, because there are so many of them. Can we go back? Can we go back to the time that we believed in each other when nobody else did?

Devon: You can go ahead and admit that those shoes are killing you.

Amanda: I’m finE.

Devon: You’re not fine. I saw your face on the dance floor. You were grimacing in pain.

Amanda: Okay, maybe it is possible that wearing a brand-new pair of heels tonight was not the best idea that I’ve ever had.

Devon: Hey, you think so? You should wear sneakers next time and be comfortable.

Amanda: Oh, no, no, no. I’ll just grab another glass of champagne — it will dull the pain — and then I will be back in the ballroom.

Devon: I’m in no rush.

Amanda: What are you thinking?

Devon: Nothing about anything. Nothing important.

Amanda: Oh, come on. What’s on your mind?

Devon: Nothing. Really. I meant what I said earlier. I want tonight just to be about you.

Amanda: Oh. Well, then in that case, you have to do everything I say, right?

Devon: Mm-hmm.

Amanda: And I want to know what’s going on inside. No matter what, I promise, it won’t spoil the mood.

Devon: Okay. Well, I just can’t but wondering how abby and chance are spending new year’s eve with dominic.

Abby: Well, that was delicious. My compliments to the chef.

Chance: Ah, well, if I ever meet him, I’ll pass it along. I just warmed it up.

Abby: Well, you turned on the oven all by yourself. That’s very impressive.

Chance: True, true.

Abby: You know, you are the kindest, sweetest, most generous man in the world.

Chance: Oh, stop. You’re going overboard.

Abby: No, I’m not. See, you don’t even know how wonderful you are.

Chance: Why are you being like that?

Abby: Like what?

Chance: Well, you’re being all effusive in your praise, you know? It’s like you’re compensating for something.

Abby: I guess I’m just in the holiday spirit.

Chance: [ Chuckles ] Okay. Well, then let’s pretend it’s not new year’s eve for a little bit. Tell me what’s going on.

Abby: I just want to have a good night, celebrate with my amazing husband.

Chance: You know, abby, you’re allowed to be honest and open, too. Just like you tell me. It’s a two-way street, girl.

Abby: Yeah. You’re right. I guess there is something on my mind.

Chance: Yeah, I know. You’re thinking about what happened with devon earlier and how he legally wants more time with dominic. I get it, it’s upsetting.

Abby: It is, yeah, but, um… that’s not what’s on my mind tonight.

Chance: No? What is it then?

Abby: I’m concerned about what’s going on with you.

Adam: We can’t go back, chelsea. Okay, it would be unfair to all of us to pretend like we could do that.

Chelsea: Great.

Adam: What?

Chelsea: I don’t want to go back either, adam. I want to move forward. Together. In the past, we’ve hurt each other, we’ve always found our path of forgiveness and happiness when no one thought it was possible.

Adam: Okay, that — that’s one way to look at our history, but, chelsea, every time that we’ve reunited, we ended up hurting each other. I mean, if we could’ve parted ways for good a long time ago, we could’ve spared each other so much pain.

Chelsea: You are focusing on the negative.

Adam: Yes, because it is very real. Chelsea, I mean, last new year’s, I came and I found you unconscious on the floor. The result of a head injury that I was responsible for. I literally can see you right there. I thought you might’ve been dead. Okay, I was scared out of my mind.

Chelsea: But I survived.

Adam: Yeah, but it was an omen, it was a sign that the whole year was gonna be filled with pain, chelsea, and you know what? It was.

Chelsea: No, we made it through, adam, and now I’m grateful. We have another chance to start over.

Adam: Yes, and I am, too. You realize it is a miracle that we have managed to get where we are now.

Chelsea: Yeah, yeah, because miracles happen.

Adam: Look, I’m — I’m so glad that you are in a good place. You know I want the best for you. And I want you to be successful at newman media. I want you to be an incredible mother to connor, and I’m gonna do everything I can to help you at work and as a co-parent, but that — that has to be enough, because, if we try for something more, something romantic, we’re gonna hurt each other and we’re gonna hurt connor. And we will regret it.

[ Cellphone vibrates ] I have to go.

Chelsea: What is it?

Adam: Something’s come up at the office.

Chelsea: What? On new year’s eve? Who’s working this late?

Adam: I don’t know, but i have to go check. I have to go. Look…I’m sorry that tonight did not turn out the way that you hoped it would. But I know you have many great days ahead of you.

Chelsea: I believe that, too.

[ Sighs ]

[ Sighs ]

Who’s on it with jardiance?

Abby: I’m worried about you.

Chance: Why?

Abby: I saw how distressed you were earlier when you couldn’t get dominic to stop crying, when you couldn’t get him to calm down. I know that you’ve been struggling with some of the details of becoming a parent.

Chance: Yeah, well, i couldn’t get my son to stop crying. It’s not really a detail. It’s pretty basic, I feel like.

Abby: No. That happens to everyone. It takes time to learn how to soothe babies and what works in different situations.

Chance: Well, how long is it gonna take?

Abby: I don’t know. I mean, I can’t give you an answer. I just feel like this has been harder than you than you’d like to admit. And if it is, then we’ll work on it. I just — I — I need to know how you’re feeling.

Chance: [ Sighs ]

Abby: [ Sighs ] Hey.

Chance: Look, baby, I… I realize how lucky I am. I am truly blessed, and I thank god every day that I’m here with you and our friends and our family and around people who love and support me. You know, I appreciate that. I-I do. But — but sometimes it just feels like — like, I don’t know, that I’m at sea. I feel disconnected. You know, it’s like there’s a wall between me and what I think my life should be right now, and I…I don’t know. Does that make any sense?

Abby: Yeah. I mean, of course. You can’t just come back here after being away for months and have it be normal. I mean, everything’s changed. We have a new baby, and, well, I mean, you can’t just figure everything out overnight.

Chance: I don’t need to figure everything out. I just need to figure out some of it. I mean, any of it.

Abby: I am so sorry. I did not realize how hard this was for you. Look, I want to help you. I really do. I’ll do whatever it takes. Unless…

Chance: Unless what?

Abby: Unless you think that i can’t help you. I mean, that distance that you were talking about, does that apply to me, too?

Chance: [ Sighs ]

Sharon: Chelsea. Happy new year.

Chelsea: Hi. Oh, same to you. Looks like you’re having fun tonight.

Sharon: We are. What are you up to?

Chelsea: Well, connor is at a friend’S. Chloe invited me to go out with her and kevin, but I’m looking forward to a quiet evening tonight.

Sharon: I understand, believe me.

Chelsea: Yeah. So I’m just gonna get some takeout and video chat with my mom and get to bed early. I mean, I’ve been so busy since I got back, it’s — it’s exactly what I needed, you know.

Sharon: Yeah, I completely understand wanting something more mellow. Um, but if you do want some company, you’re welcome to join us.

Chelsea: Oh, that’s — no, I couldn’t intrude on your evening.

Sharon: It wouldn’t be an intrusion if you have an invitation.

Chelsea: That’s very nice of you, sharon, thank you. But I should probably just —

Rey: Chelsea. Why don’t you join us? Make it a party.

Adam: Sally.

Sally: Ta-da!

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Uh…was the emergency that you ran out of tape for the decorations or…?

Sally: The emergency is that it is almost midnight.

Adam: Right. And we said that were not doing anything for new year’s eve.

Amanda: You don’t need to feel bad for thinking about dominic. He’s on my mind, too.

Devon: It’s just ’cause i haven’t gotten a response yet from abby and chance, you know? But I need to let that go for tonight.

Amanda: No, no. I’m not letting you wiggle your way out of this.

Devon: Mnh-mnh.

Amanda: Mm.

Devon: This is new year’s eve. I don’t need to be worrying about something that I can’t control or the fact that me wanting to spend more time with dominic has put abby on edge.

Amanda: But you can’t help it, and that’s one of the reasons why I love you.

Devon: You do?

Amanda: Mm-hmm.

Devon: You also love my inability to relax and clear my mind?

Amanda: I love that you care so much about this little child.

Devon: Mm. Not — not everyone in your situation would be as supportive as you’ve been, and I really appreciate that.

Amanda: I know that I’m bringing my own history into this, but when I see you with dom, it reminds me of my own father. A man that I — I never knew, i never got to meet, but he never stopped searching for me. He never stopped wanting to be my dad. He just never got the chance.

Devon: Well, I take that as a huge compliment.

Amanda: Sometimes I feel like this may get a little too personal for me. Maybe I’m trying to rewrite history, you know, and I lack perspective.

Devon: I don’t think so. I think that your experiences give you amazing perspective when it comes to me and dominic.

Amanda: Yeah, well, his situation is nothing like mine. Dominic is — he is loved, he’s wanted, he’s cherished. But every child deserves all of the love in the world. And you are a better father than I have ever known, so I want to help you on this journey.

Devon: I’m not his father, though.

Amanda: Yeah, you are. It is exactly what you have been from the day that he was born. And a child deserves his father’s love. And that’s chance’s and yours.

Devon: Thank you for saying that. You know what I want to do now?

Amanda: What?

Devon: I would like to go home so we can finish this celebration in private. How’s that sound?

Amanda: Oh.

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

[Upbeat acoustic music throughout]

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Devon: Welcome to our own private party.

Amanda: Oh, is that what this is? A party.

Devon: Yes, it is. See, ’cause I promised you a night of dancing and champagne, and we’re gonna keep that going here.

Amanda: Okay.

Devon: I just didn’t want anybody to intrude on our time together. I knew those shoes were killing you.

Amanda: [ Laughs ] Well, the good thing about dancing at home, I get to do it barefoot.

Devon: That’s right.

[ Chuckles ] Mm.

[ Jazz playing ] I know I told you that I was gonna show you how much I love you, but I know that you’re a woman of words, so I should probably start by telling you just how brilliant I think you are and how incredibly beautiful and strong you are. And how patient you are.

Amanda: I am also a woman of action.

Devon: Oh, yeah?

Amanda: Mm-hmm. See, I think that this is the part of the evening where I get to show you…

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Amanda: …How much I love you.

Devon: Oh, yeah?

Amanda: Mm-hmm.

Devon: I can help you with that.

Amanda: Yeah?

Devon: Yeah.

[ Both laugh ] Mm.

Sharon: So I heard from noah that connor is becoming interested in hockey.

Chelsea: Yes. Yes, and noah has been so great with him. Connor just loves spending time with his cool older cousin.

Rey: You’re not worried about how rough hockey can be?

Chelsea: Not until you just mentioned it, rey.

[ Laughs ] I’m just kidding. I’m just kidding. I was concerned in the beginning, but noah’s assured me that it’s safe and it’s not as dangerous as everybody says.

Sharon: Yeah, I remember bumps and bruises, but no serious injuries.

Chelsea: Yeah, I mean, I’m just surprised at how fired up connor is about hockey all of a sudden. First it was soccer, then it was lacrosse, and now he’s all about pucks and skates, and just this game of hockey. It’s crazy.

Sharon: Oh, believe me, noah was the same way. He played three sports, and if you asked him which one was his favorite, he’d just say whatever one he played that day.

Chelsea: Were you like that?

Rey: I liked other sports, but soccer was always my first love when I was young. Now it’s only second to sharon.

Sharon: Aww. That’s sweet. Now, I knew I was in your top two, but I didn’t know I came before your team.

Rey: You kidding? I adore you so much, it doesn’t even come close.

Sharon: [ Laughs ]

Rey: [ Laughs ]

Chelsea: Well, you know what? It’s getting late, so I should go home.

Sharon: Oh, are you sure?

Chelsea: Yeah, yeah, I have to video chat my mom before it’s too late.

Sharon: Well, the time just flew by.

Chelsea: It did. This was fun. Thank you for asking me to join you. It was very kind, sharon. It means more than you know. Good night. Happy new year.

Sharon: Happy new year.

Rey: Happy new year.

Adam: No champagne, huh?

Sally: Mm, it’s a little too new year’s-Y.

Adam: Now, I do remember you saying something about pizza. Is that still happening?

Sally: So I have something a little more interesting — caviar and smoked salmon.

Adam: Fancy.

Sally: Hey, goes a little bit better with a hitchcock movie, don’t you think?

Adam: Well, now, that depends. What are we watching?

Sally: Okay, well, I have “north by northwest” cued up. Or “to catch a thief” or “notorious.”

Adam: I’m kind of sensing a little pattern here.

Sally: Well, if cary grant in a pristine suit is a pattern, then, yeah. I could literally watch that guy do anything. He is sublime. There’s never been a more perfect man.

Adam: Well, no argument here.

Sally: Plus, there are beautiful women wearing beautiful clothes, so it also counts as newman fashion research.

Adam: Excellent. It’s a very efficient use of our time. And I have to say that I vote for “north by northwest.”

Sally: Terrific choice. Alright, well, then I will get the snacks ready and we will proceed with the motion picture momentarily.

Adam: Sounds good. I have to say, I am — I am very impressed by the measures you’ve taken to make sure that this, it’s not a date.

Sally: Well, I’m a woman of my word.

Adam: No, I was not expecting to be summoned to the office. I was kind of glad for the interruption.

Sally: What exactly did i interrupt?

Adam: Just some family stuff. Smart choice of venue.

Sally: Yeah, well, made the most sense. My apartment is not appropriate for our non-date. And we couldn’t go to the ranch because of nikki and victor and all the looming security. So the office was perfect. It is a cold, sterile work environment with not a hint of anything romantic. Which is exactly what we wanted, right?

Adam: Right.

Sally: Alright. Well, let’s get to it. Gordan ramsey

Chance: Abby, I hope you know that you are the one thing that I am certain about.

Abby: I’m the only thing?

Chance: Yes, and it kills me every time I think about what i put you through. I mean, I was the one that wanted to rush into marriage. I was the one that wanted the baby right away, and then I left you. I left you here all alone for months.

Abby: But you’re back now. And we have everything that we talked about.

Chance: I know. I’m here, but I’m not the man that you and dominic deserve. I mean, I have screwed so many things up lately, and I do not want to screw this up. But when it comes to being a father, I… abby, I just feel like I’m failing.

Abby: No. Chance, don’t say that.

Chance: Just listen. Just listen to me. There’s a void where my paternal instincts should be, and I’m not like devon. I’m not. Who just automatically knows what to do all the time. He knows exactly what dominic needs. I’m constantly asking myself what to do. And I don’t know if it’s because I wasn’t here when dominic was born or…maybe it goes further back than that, I don’t know.

Abby: What do you mean?

Chance: My father left us when I was little because he couldn’t handle being a dad.

Abby: Okay, just stop. That’s a completely different situation. I understand why you are thinking about your father right now, but, no, it’s not the same. Phillip was a teenager when he had you. He wasn’t ready for a baby. And he felt overwhelmed and he had issues that he had to deal with, and he left, but, no, he…he came back. And he built a relationship with you — a good relationship.

Chance: Years later, when i was a grown man.

Abby: He’s still your father. And you love him, and he loves and supports you.

Chance: I know, and I’m not blaming him. See, abby, I’m just trying to figure out what’s going on inside of me right now, what’s missing. You know, because as much as i love dominic — and I do… I just don’t think I have what it takes to be a good father.

Rey: Thank you. What is this?

Sharon: It’s dessert. I ordered something ahead of time, but I didn’t want them to bring it out when chelsea was here, so we had to wait.

Rey: You know, what you did, inviting her over like that, that was — that was very compassionate and generous.

Sharon: Well, it’s really hard to be alone on the holidays.

Rey: Mm-hmm.

Sharon: But my generosity only goes so far, because this needs to be enjoyed by just the two of us, so open it up.

Rey: Okay.

[ Chuckles ] Wait a minute. Is this… is this our wedding cake?

Sharon: That’s right. They say it’s good luck to save a piece for the first anniversary, brings you prosperity.

Rey: Year-old cake?

Sharon: Yeah, it’s been frozen all this time, and now thawed.

Rey: [ Laughing ] Okay, okay. Well, I am all for prosperity, so let’s dig in. Come here.

Sharon: That’s a big bite.

[ Both laugh ]

Rey: [ Laughs ] Mmm. I could use some milk. Yeah?

Sharon: What do you think? How is it?

Rey: Mm. Mm, it tastes a little like our freezer.

Sharon: I agree.

Rey: [ Laughs ] But it’s good. It’s good. I mean, it’s — it’s not as delicious as it was on our wedding day, but I like the tradition.

Sharon: I do, too.

Rey: You know, when I think back on our wedding day, my favorite thing wasn’t the cake.

Sharon: Oh, shocker. What was it?

Rey: Let me show you. Dance with me.

Sharon: I would love to.

Sally: Okay. I have to pause it.

Adam: What? Why? We haven’t even gotten to eva marie saint yet.

Sally: Well, I need a refresher on my drink, and then we can talk about how ridiculous stylish all of the stars of this film are.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Well, I know that you are dying to, so do I even have a choice?

Sally: Not really.

Adam: I still don’t understand why we need to sit so close to each other.

Sally: Well, the movie is on my laptop, which is on a small screen. I guess we could go to the conference room or try and hook it up to the tv, but it’s just so technical, you know? But I guess we can try, if you’re uncomfortable.

Adam: It’s fine. Why do dermatologists worldwide recommend la roche-posay?

Chance: This was supposed to be a fun and sexy night. I turned it into a therapy session. I’m sorry I dumped all that on you.

Abby: Hey, no need to apologize. I wanted to know how you were feeling, and I’m glad I know what’s going on.

Chance: Yeah, but, you know, it’s almost midnight, and I feel like I kind of killed the mood, huh?

Abby: All that matters is this. Ending 2021 with the man that i love. I know this new year is gonna be fulfilling and rewarding for us. I’m gonna help you overcome your fears. We’re gonna work through this together. I love you.

Chance: I love you more.

Devon: Oh, it’s almost time.

Amanda: [ Chuckles ]

I couldn’t take mine off of you

I felt my heart

beat through my chest

I could’ve sworn

you stole my breath

I can feel you

a thousand miles away

I won’t let go

Elena: Sharon. Just the person I was looking for.

Sharon: Oh, well, that phrase can sound ominous, but coming from you, sounds like a delightful invitation.

Elena: Yeah, I keep missing you. Our schedules this holiday season haven’t aligned.

Sharon: It’s such a hectic time of the year. I hope you and Nate had a nice Christmas.

Elena: We did. Actually, that is part of the reason why I wanted to talk to you. But I didn’t want to do it over the phone.

Sharon: Oh, what’s going on?

Elena: I have to give notice on the apartment upstairs.

Sharon: What? Is everything okay?

Elena: Yeah, everything’s great, actually. Nate and I decided to move in together.

*************

Devon: What are you doing, man? Figured you’d be clearing stuff out of your place to make room for Elena.

Nate: [ Laughs ]

Devon: Come in.

Nate: Okay, are you implying I have junk that I need to get rid of?

Devon: No, I’m not implying anything. I’m saying it.

Nate: Well, I’ll have you know that I just dropped off several bags of clothes at the New Hope donation center.

Devon: Oh, wow. That’s very nice of you. Did you get rid of those ugly purple lamps you have?

Nate: No, those were expensive. I kept them.

Devon: However much you paid, they ripped you off. Elena’s gonna throw those things away the first day she gets there.

Nate: I am so glad I came by here to check in on you, so i could get critiqued about my interior decorating skills.

Faith: Suck it up, Santa. It’s your big night. You’ve got a long way to go to get ready for tomorrow.

Nick: Not this year.

Faith: Oh, really?

Nick: Mm-hmm. I got all my shopping done before Christmas Eve.

Faith: You brag, but is everything wrapped?

Nick: Mm.

Faith: Ha! Yeah, I knew it.

Nick: Well, don’t you worry your pointy little ears, sassy elf. I got it covered.

Faith: If you say so.

Victoria: So, how did the conversation with dad go once mom was able to get you two in the same room? I hope that it was at least productive.

Victor: I told Nicholas what an excellent father he is. Far more connected and present with his children than I ever was with mine.

Adam: That’s an understatement.

Victor: And I’m proud to see him with his children.

Nick: Well, it’s more complicated than that. It always is.

Nikki: Well, we are family.

Victor: And it is Christmas.

Adam: That magical time of year where we get together to dwell on how dysfunctional we are.

Young & The Restless Update

Y&R logo

Recap written by Christine

Sally entered Adam’s darkened and empty office with a suitcase.

At the penthouse, Chelsea said she didn’t understand how she and Adam lost the beautiful relationship they had. He didn’t think it was beneficial for either of them to revisit their breakup. He owned his mistakes and admitted he was toxic for her. She said that was noble of him, but they both knew her actions were what broke them. “I know there is still something between us. Can you honestly tell me there is no chance we can recapture the love and connection we once had?,” she asked. He reminded her that they talked about this – they’d always share a connection, but they were in a different place, and he thought it was a great one. He said getting back together, even if they had lingering feelings between them, would be a mistake. “This can’t be the end of our story, Adam,” Chelsea insisted. He asked if this was really about rekindling their relationship or about proving to herself that she’d healed emotionally. She asked why it couldn’t be both. She was adamant that they owed it to themselves to see if it was possible to be together. She was so happy at Christmas, and she thought he felt the same way. He did enjoy Christmas, and he’d liked seeing Connor so happy. She said that their son was proof they could make something beautiful. He told her that wasn’t enough. She said when Connor looked at them, he saw love, and she wanted to be optimistic like their boy. She asked if they could go back to the time they believed in each other and nobody else did.

Adam said they couldn’t go back. Chelsea said that was fine, because she wanted to move forward with him. He said every time they reunited, they hurt each other. He thought they could’ve spared each other a lot of pain if they’d parted ways for good a long time ago. Last New Year’s Eve, he came home and found her unconscious on the floor, a result of a head injury that he was responsible for. She said she made it through, and now they could start over. He was glad she was in a good place, and he would help her at work and as a co-parent, bu that had to be enough, because if they tried for something romantic, they’d hurt each other and Connor. He got a text from Sally saying there was an office emergency, and he told Chelsea that he had to go, because something was up at work. She questioned who’d be at work at this time of the night, on New Year’s Eve. He did not say the text was from Sally. He was sorry tonight didn’t turn out how Chelsea hoped.

Abby was at Society acting as hostess. She showed Rey and Sharon to their table. Rey was surprised Abby was there. Abby wanted to see to her special guests before she went home. She left the table. Rey took Sharon’s hand, and they wished each other a happy anniversary. It was hard for her to believe it had been a year. It was a magical night for her. He agreed and said their love grew stronger by the day. She wanted to spend more time with him in 2022. They planned for a trip to Miami and somewhere in Europe. She was glad her kids were in a good place – Faith was better, Mariah and Tessa were starting a family, and they’d make great parents. Rey thought it was nice Noah was back. Sharon said Noah wasn’t ready to talk about London, but he seemed to be doing better. Rey thought it was good for Noah to be back around Sharon, Nick and everyone who cared about him. Sharon said Nick was struggling. Rey was sure Nick would figure it out, given that Sharon and the kids gave him strength. Sharon said Nick valued Rey’s friendship, and that’s why he was best man at their wedding. Rey said they were family, and they could get through anything. Sharon said Rey had a way of making her feel like things would be okay. Rey was optimistic for the new year.

At his home, Chance planned a special evening for Abby with strawberries and champagne. He looked at the baby monitor and hoped Dominic would sleep through the night. Abby came home and was impressed with all Chance did in the short time she was gone. She saw the Baby’s first Christmas ornament on the couch. He said he couldn’t just throw it in a box in the attic. It was her favorite. She remembered when he gave it to her, it had seemed like a distant dream, and now they had a new beginning with the baby. Later, they had dinner. Chance didn’t cook it, but he bought it and heated it in the oven, and Abby gave him credit for that. Abby was very effusive with her praise about what a good man Chance was, and it made him question whether she was compensating for something. She said she just wanted to have a good night with her amazing husband. He told her she could be honest with him. She admitted she was concerned about what was going on with him.

Abby saw how distressed Chance was earlier when he couldn’t get Dominic to stop crying. Chance was still down on himself about it, and Abby tried to assure him that it took time to learn how to soothe babies. She wanted to know how he was feeling. He felt blessed to have her and their family and friends, but sometimes he felt disconnected. She thought it was natural for it to take time for him to get used to things. She asked if he felt distant from her too. He said she was the one thing he was certain about. It killed him what he put her through. He was the one who wanted to rush into marriage, and he was the one who wanted the baby, then he left her here alone for months. She said he was here now, and they had everything he talked about. He aid he was here, but he wasn’t the man she and Dominic deserved. He felt like he was failing as a father. She told him not to say that, but he wanted to get this off his chest. He felt that there was a void where his paternal instinct should be, unlike with Devon, who knew exactly what Dominic needed. Chance was constantly asking himself what to do, and he wasn’t sure if it was because he missed Dominic’s birth or if it went further than that. “My father left us when I was little because he couldn’t handle being a dad,” Chance said. Abby was adamant that it wasn’t the same. She said Phillip was a teenager when Chance was born, and he wasn’t ready for a baby, and he had issues to deal with. Abby said Phillip came back and built a relationship with Chance. Chance said he was an adult when Phillip came back. Chance didn’t blame Phillip. Chance was trying to figure out what was missing. He loved Dominic, but he didn’t think he had what it took to be a good father. He was sorry their fun and sexy night turned into a therapy session. She was glad he opened up to her. He said it was almost midnight, and he killed the mood. She said all that mattered was that she ended 2021 with the man she loved. She vowed to help him overcome his fears so they could get through this together. They kissed.

Chelsea went to Society. Sharon talked with her and invited her to join them. Chelsea was hesitant. She didn’t want to intrude, but when Rey also extended the invitation, Chelsea accepted. They talked about how Connor and Noah played hockey. Chelsea mentioned that Connor kept getting fired up about different sports, and Sharon said Noah used to be the same way. Chelsea asked if Rey was like that as a boy, and he said that soccer was always his first love, but now it was second to Sharon. Rey and Sharon started getting lovey-dovey and Chelsea excused herself. She thanked Sharon for the kind invitation and headed out. Chelsea glanced back at the table and saw Sharon and Rey holding hands.

After Chelsea was gone, the waiter brought out dessert. It was something Sharon arranged ahead of time, but she didn’t want them to bring it out while Chelsea was here. Rey thought Sharon had been very compassionate and generous. Sharon said it was hard to be alone on the holidays. They lifted the lids on their plates, and it was slices of their wedding cake. It was good luck to eat a piece on your first anniversary, so she had it frozen. They fed each other a piece, and it tasted like the freezer, but he liked the tradition. The favorite part of his wedding day wasn’t the cake. He said he’d show her what it was, and he asked her to dance with him. She did, and they shared a New Year’s kiss.

Adam went to his office. Sally had put up decorations for every holiday except New Year’s. She also had several Hitchcock movies, and all of them starred Cary Grant. Adam caught the pattern, and Sally said Cary Grant was sublime. He chose North by Northwest. He was impressed by the measures she took to ensure this wasn’t a date. He was also kind of grateful she’d interrupted what he was doing and summoned him to the office. She felt that this was the right venue, since her apartment wasn’t the right choice for a non-date, and they couldn’t go to the ranch because of Victor and Nikki.

Sally paused the video because she wanted to refill her drink and talk about the fashion in the movie. They were sitting close to each other on the couch, and he didn’t understand why. She said it was because they were watching it on her laptop. She offered to set it up on the conference room screen if he was uncomfortable. He said this was fine. Chelsea walked up and saw Adam and Sally in what looked like a romantic moment. Her mouth fell open, and she left without being noticed. When it was New Year’s day, Sally and Adam looked deep into each other’s eyes, but they both sipped their drink instead of kissing.

Chelsea rushed home, and she was upset. She poured herself a drink.

Devon and Amanda were at The Grand Phoenix for New Year’s Eve. He wanted to put aside everything else and spend the night focused on themselves. The party was in the ballroom, and he said they’d dance, and he’d show her how much he loved her. They kissed. Later, after dancing, they went to the lounge because her new shoes were hurting her. She could tell something was on his mind, and she pulled the information out of him, even though he didn’t want to take away from the moment. He couldn’t help but wonder how Abby and Chance were spending New Year’s Eve with Dominic.

Amanda didn’t want Devon to feel bad for thinking about Dominic. He was thinking about it because he hadn’t gotten a response from Abby and Chance, but he thought he needed to let it go. He said he shouldn’t be worried about something he couldn’t control tonight, or the fact that him wanting more time with Dominic put Abby on edge. Amanda loved that he cared so much about Dominic, and that was one of the reasons she loved him. He appreciated her support, and he knew not everyone else would be. When she saw him with Dom, it reminded her of her own father, and the way he never stopped searching for her and wanting to be her dad. Sometimes she felt like this got a little too personal for her. He thought her experienAdam went to his office. Sally had put up decorations for every holiday except New Year’s. ce gave her amazing experience when it came to him and Dominic. She said Dominic’s situation wasn’t like hers – he was loved and cherished, but every child deserved all the love in the world. “You are a better father than I have ever known, so I want to help you on this journey,” Amanda said. Devon said he wasn’t the father, but Amanda disagreed. She said he had been Dominic’s father from the day he was born. Amanda felt that children deserved their father’s love, which meant Chance’s and Devon’s.

Devon wanted to go home for a private celebration. At the penthouse, Amanda kicked off her shoes, and danced barefoot with Devon. He told her she was brilliant, beautiful and strong. She kissed him they began to disrobe. When they saw that it was time, they shared a deep New Year’s kiss.

Recap written by Christine

At her office, Victoria told Ashland she was worried that Billy was waffling on the plan, because he wasn’t answering any of her messages. Ashland thought it was always risky to rely on Billy something so important, but Victoria didn’t think Billy was a problem yet. Ashland said there were more powerful ways to undermine Adam and force Newman Media to sell. He thought Billy was unpredictable, but she wasn’t ready to cut him loose just yet. She relished the idea of Adam realizing Newman/Locke took over Newman Media. Ashland wondered why Victoria was going after Adam, since they hadn’t had any huge issues lately. She said this was just business, and it had nothing to do with sibling rivalry. It seemed to Ashland that Lily was trying to protect Billy.

Victoria said she had no desire to control Billy. She added that it was Billy’s demand to be put in charge of Newman Media. Ashland said there was no denying that this would put Billy back in Victoria’s orbit. Victoria was sure that wasn’t Billy’s motive. Victoria said she had no intention of putting Billy in charge. She called Billy a useful tool with a plan that was already in motion. Ashland thought this plan was more likely to fail than succeed. Victoria knew her working with Billy was a sore point for Ashland, but she said he could trust her. Ashland wasn’t going to tell Victoria what to do, but he thought she was making a foolish move that he didn’t understand.

At their place, Billy tried to get Lily not to quit the plan. She didn’t want to be part of it now that Victoria had taken over. Lily thought that Billy was worried he couldn’t pull this off without her. That wasn’t how he felt; he just wanted to work together, because that’s when they were strongest. Lily agreed that they were strongest together, but not when Victoria was in the mix. Lily felt that the stakes had changed, but Billy said this was still about getting back at Victor and Adam. Lily countered that the original goal was about Billy repairing his reputation, not building Victoria’s empire. He said if he got his hands on Adam’s company, he could prove he was capable of running a business. Lily pointed out that there was no way to know Victoria would uphold her end of the bargain, and if she did, that would mean Billy was working for Victoria instead of with Lily. Lily thought Billy and Victoria were falling back into their old patterns, and she wanted no part of it. She ended the debate by leaving the house.

Moses and Faith were at Crimson Lights, and he was wearing the sweater she got him for Christmas. He apologized about his gift for her, because it wasn’t romantic. Nate got a book for Elena, and Moses had followed his cousin’s lead and done the same for Faith. Faith said she loved the book. Adam arrived and said hi. Every time Moses saw Adam, he thought of Adam saving Faith’s life. Adam continued on to the counter. Moses was embarrassed about the lame thing he said, but Faith thought that it was sweet. Faith said the situation with Adam was weird, he was either a great guy who did horrible things, or a horrible guy who did good things. Moses was just glad, for Faith’s sake, that Adam did something good to her. Adam glanced back over at the teens.

Elena arrived, and Moses went over and talked to her. He returned to the table and said he’d be back later. Faith asked if Moses was leaving with Elena. He said no, but he and Elena walked out together, and Faith saw it. Noah arrived, and Faith told him what was going on. She didn’t understand why Moses lied. She knew their relationship was solid, she and Moses liked all the same things, and he made everything better, but she was still worried. “People hold back the truth. I mean, think about our parents,” Faith said. Noah told Faith that she had to be strong enough to roll with the punches, and when things fell apart, you had to suck it up. Faith started to think Moses wasn’t coming back. Noah said to just text him instead of jumping to conclusions. Just then, Moses and Elena returned. She went to the patio, and Moses came inside. Noah joined Elena. Moses had another gift for Faith. Elena and Noah smiled as they watched from the patio. The gift was a charm bracelet with chess pieces, a reminder of the game they played at the hospital. She loved it, but she wondered if Elena picked it out. He said it was all his idea, but he needed Elena’s help finding a jewelry store.

Elena and Noah thought the teens were adorable. Elena said she and Noah met at one romantic event – the Tuscan wedding, and now they were witnessing another. Noah wouldn’t go that far – Moses and Faith were cute, but they were just kids. Elena didn’t think they should knock young love – it was just as important even if it didn’t last forever. Noah said sometimes adults couldn’t make it work either.

Billy went to the dive bar, and the objections to his plan from Lily and Jack echoed in his head. Sally showed up in her blonde disguise. Billy told her that the jig was up. Sally pretended to be someone else, so Billy pulled the hat off Sally’s head and told her that she was embarrassing herself. He said to get up because they were going to see her boss.

Billy and Sally went to Adam’s office. Adam said he didn’t have time for this. “Save it Adam. You’re not a good enough actor to pretend you don’t want to hear what I have to say. Especially after all the work you went through to get 00-nothing to spy on me,” Billy said. Adam pretended Billy was just being paranoid. Billy knew that this all started when Sally saw him having a drink in the middle of the day at Society. Sally said she’d been concerned. Billy asked if she was so concerned that she recorded him talking to Victoria about the kids going to boarding school and his fight with Lily and gambling at the Empty Glass. Adam was surprised Billy remembered those moments, given how drunk he was. Billy revealed that he didn’t have any drinks. Adam scoffed. Billy pulled out receipts from the bar and threw them at Adam. It proved he only bought apple juice. He also had a recording from his friends at the Empty Glass when he said he said he wasn’t gambling tonight, but he’d buy them a round of drinks. Billy said he never went on a bender, and Adam had only witnessed what he’d wanted to witness. Adam asked Sally to leave. Sally said she was genuinely glad Billy was okay, and she left.

Adam asked what the point of the supposed grand charade was. He didn’t understand why Billy was gloating about publicly humiliating himself. Billy said that Adam had been played, and he was so desperate and stupid that he took the bait. Billy revealed that he’d planned to sue Newman Media when they inevitably published an article about his downward spiral. Billy was going to offer Adam mercy if he’d come clean about what he, Victor and Ashland did to Billy and his company. Adam admitted it wasn’t a completely terrible plan, but he said Billy shot himself in the foot by revealing his hand too early. Billy changed his mind about the plan. Adam thought it was on brand for Billy to quit before he accomplished anything. Billy realized that Adam wasn’t worth anything to anyone. “You will always be the runner up Newman. The epic failure,” Billy said. Billy reasoned that he couldn’t bring Adam down further than Adam had already brought himself. Billy had a life to live. “Not much of one anymore,” Adam said. “I’m gonna get over what you did to me, and I will redeem myself on my own. And you will continue to sit there wallowing in the truth of who you really are. Knowing that I could’ve taken you down. And that’s gonna haunt you more than if I actually did,” Billy stated. He left.

Sally returned to apologize about getting busted by Billy. She had no idea Billy was just acting. Adam didn’t blame Sally, since the act was pretty convincing. Sally recalled Adam saying he took no satisfaction in seeing Billy relapse, so she assumed this was good news. Adam didn’t respond to that. He shifted gears and said he thought she’d said she was finished spying on Billy. She didn’t remember saying that specifically, because based on their last conversation, she thought Adam wanted plausible deniability. He said the spying was done, and she should stop trying to score points with the boss and focus on the job she was paid to do. She left.

Billy went to Victoria’s office. She was glad he finally decided to respond to her messages, but she said it didn’t require an in-person visit. Billy said that he did need to do this in person. He announced that he told Adam everything, minus Victoria’s involvement. It felt good to tell Adam that he was walking away. Victoria mockingly clapped and said Billy had a mini moment to gloat. Victoria thought that Billy abandoned the plan because he was mad Victoria commandeered his plot. He said she was giving herself too much credit. She stated that she knew him too well. She was sure this was just another one of his knee jerk reactions. “It’s symptomatic of a long history of inconsistencies, and I will tell you – this is why you will never have what it takes to play in the big leagues,” she stated. He sarcastically thanked her for supporting his emotional development.

Ashland returned, and Victoria said he was right – she was foolish to count on Billy. Ashland was relieved Billy pulled out of the plan. Victoria said that she realized it would be a mistake to put someone so unreliable in charge of Newman Media. Billy stated that the people who actually cared about him were worried about this plan, given his history, and they had his best interest at heart, and not the business’s. Billy said that Victoria’s priorities were selfish, and he was sorry to say that her father would be extremely proud. Later, Billy was gone. Ashland hoped Victoria didn’t let Billy’s words get to her. She said she refused to waste more time on Billy. She wanted to find another way to get Newman Media. Ashland said they’d have to contend with Victor and Adam. Victoria thought she had a way to get Victor on their side.

Billy went home and told Lily everything. He said he felt like a massive weight had been lifted off his shoulders. She was proud of him. He gave her the lion’s share of the credit. He was so grateful she always had the courage to tell him the truth, even when he didn’t want to hear it, and the patience to hope it’d sink in. he loved her so much and he was so happy she was in his life. She loved him too. She knew it was a huge step for him and their relationship, and she wasn’t worried. She knew he’d find a new career path. He wanted to work with her at Chancellor and be there to support her as her wingman. She kissed him.

Devon and Amanda were at home. He turned down her offer to make him breakfast. She’d noticed that he slipped out of bed last night and didn’t return, and she was concerned that he wasn’t eating or sleeping because of Dominic. He appreciated her concern, but he said it wasn’t necessary. He helped her into her coat, but she said she could have Imani cover all the new client meetings and stay here with him. He didn’t want her to miss out on meeting her first clients at her new law firm. He wished her good luck, and she left. Amanda ran into Lily in the hallway, and they said hi as they parted ways.

Lily brought pastries, and she was there to check on Devon. Nate told her Devon was thinking of asking about revisiting the custody agreement. Devon said he already asked, and they shot him down. Devon had been told he could see Dominic whenever he wanted, just on Abby and Chance’s terms. Lily asked what more Devon wanted. Devon wanted more than occasional visits, and he was worried about Dom’s well being. Devon said Chance needed time to heal, and it was taking away from his ability to parent. Lily felt for everyone involved. Devon didn’t blame Chance, but he felt the need to protect Dominic from the emotional turmoil. He didn’t know how to show Abby that he was trying to do what was best for Dominic and what was fair to Devon. He thought Lily might feel differently because Mackenzie carried the twins. Lily actually thought Devon had the right to be a protective presence in Dom’s life.

At their home, Abby found Chance reading on his tablet, and she thought he was reading about a case, but he was actually reading some parenting articles. He acknowledged that he’d gotten excited about a case yesterday, and he guessed that annoyed her. Abby wasn’t annoyed, just disheartened by it. Chance was sorry; he just felt a rush of adrenaline after he talked about the case. After he came down off the high, he recalled that Abby wasn’t crazy about the idea of him returning to the force. He decided to talk to the chief about extending his leave indefinitely. She was relieved, but she didn’t want him to feel like she was pressuring him into it.

Chance said he made this decision all on his own, but Abby did play a big part. He heard what she said the other day, and he wanted to focus all his energy on her and Dom. He felt healthy enough to go back to work, but the pull toward the force would only emotionally take him further from her and Dom, and he didn’t want that. Abby wanted to make sure that this was what Chance wanted. He was certain, and he said with her by his side, he could conquer fatherhood. She called him strong and brave. She didn’t have all the answers to parenting, and they’d struggle, but they were in it together, and that was all that mattered. They hugged. Abby and Chance took Dominic to Society. She praised him for getting Dominic out of his car seat without making the baby whine, which was something she still struggled to do. She went to the back. Devon arrived and saw Chance playing with Dominic and making him laugh. Devon left without being noticed.

Amanda dropped by the house to pick something up. Devon said he saw Chance and Dominic, and he’d made up his mind. He wanted to pursue legal rights to be with his son. Meanwhile, Chance and Abby were at the restaurant marveling at the baby and unaware of what was to come.

Recap written by Christine

Elena and Nate were online rug shopping at Society when Imani approached to say hello. Elena was cool toward Imani. Imani was unfazed and immediately began complimenting Nate’s appearance. Nate thanked her. Elena made it a point to mention that she and Nate moved in together. That put a damper on Imani’s good mood. She adopted a strained smile as she congratulated the couple. Nate said he and Elena were very happy. “I know billable hours are important to lawyers so we wouldn’t want to get in the way of your work,” Elena said. Imani saw her takeout order was ready. She mentioned again that Nate’s shirt looked good on him, then she left the table. Nate said Elena brought the claws out. “Just reminding her of our relationship status so she can stop flirting with you,” Elena said, raising her voice enough for Imani to hear her. Imani left. Nate thought Elena did a good deed.

Nate got a call from the hospital. One of the board members was upset Nate took Elena as his date to a hospital fundraiser. Roland, the board member, thought it was inappropriate for a department head to date a first year attending physician. Nate couldn’t believe Roland had the nerve to call him and criticize him about his personal life. It made Nate wonder if being chief of surgery was worth the hassle. Elena asked if Nate wanted to quit. He didn’t, but he also didn’t realize how much politics this job involved. Elena thought Nate was doing great things for the patients in that role. He knew, that was why he was determined to make it work. He also liked working with her, even though it made some peons uncomfortable.

Amanda and Phyllis were together at The Grand Phoenix. Amanda was in the middle of telling Phyllis how great things were going at her new law firm when a courier came up and served Phyllis. Amanda looked through the paperwork. Someone was suing Phyllis for fraud and mental distress because they didn’t enjoy their Escape Club experience. Phyllis looked over the paper and remembered the girl and said she was a freak. The woman was still bitter over a bad break up, and she’d written a fictionalized account of the split so that she could get closure. She’d wanted people at the hotel to act out the script. Phyllis had to explain to this person that The Grand Phoenix employees weren’t actors. Amanda wanted to see the script. It was so crazy that Phyllis saved it. She emailed it to Amanda.

Phyllis and Amanda took turns reading the script, which was about a woman confronting her cheating boyfriend. At the end of the script, the ex was supposed to get hit by a bus. Amanda understood why Phyllis couldn’t provide that experience. Phyllis said she never promised this woman she’d hit her ex with a bus. Amanda noted that people got vengeful after breakups. Phyllis could relate – she’d been so filled with rage and jealousy that she had to hit someone with her car. “You mean fantasize about it,” Amanda assumed. “Sure,” Phyllis responded. Phyllis shifted gears and said she stood Jack up on Christmas Eve, and now he was out of town, and they weren’t talking. She felt like she relied on him too much. Amanda said it was okay to rely on a friend, especially when they relied on you. Phyllis knew she was selfish though, and she’d taken more from him than she’d given to him. Amanda thought it was good that Phyllis was trying to be a better friend. Phyllis changed the subject to the lawsuit. Amanda promised to take care of it, but Phyllis wanted to handle it in her own way outside the legal system. Amanda was apprehensive until Phyllis said she was going to give Beck a free year of membership at the escape club. Amanda thought that was a good idea.

Phyllis called Becky and de-escalated things. Imani showed up and asked why Amanda didn’t tell her Nate and Elena were living together. Amanda didn’t think Imani needed to know. Imani said it could’ve saved her an awkward and disappointing conversation. Amanda introduced Imani and Phyllis and said Imani had been openly thirsting after Nate for awhile. Both ladies had heard a lot about each other, through Amanda. Imani said she’d heard Phyllis was a great friend and a bit of a hell raiser, which made Imani think they’d get along great. “Well, we just might,” Phyllis said, sounding uncertain. Once Phyllis was alone, she called Jack, and it went to voice mail. She said she just wanted to say hi. She hoped the call went to voice mail because he was busy and not because he declined her call.

Chelsea found Sally pacing around outside Adam’s office and asked why she was loitering. Sally explained that she just met with Adam. Chelsea tried to get Sally to go back to her own office, and Sally, in turn, tried to stop Chelsea from going into Adam’s office. Chelsea stated that this was about their son, but Sally warned Chelsea that it wasn’t a good time to talk to Adam. Chelsea went in anyway.

Adam was brusque, thinking it was Sally, but Chelsea yelled “It’s me.” He looked up at her and complained that nobody knocked anymore. Chelsea wanted to know what happened, and Adam said it was nothing, but Chelsea said to save that for someone who didn’t know him. He groused that Billy came in here acting like he won the lottery, even though everyone knew he was an utter failure and always would be. Chelsea thought Adam had everything going for him, so she didn’t understand why he couldn’t let this battle with Billy end.

Adam said there was no battle with him and Billy – in his warped way, Billy called a truce. Adam said Billy concocted a scheme that fell apart, so Billy failed once again. Chelsea wondered why Adam looked like he lost, and he said it was complicated. Chelsea thought Adam should celebrate his business success and forget about Billy. He declared that it was forgotten. Chelsea was here for help, because Connor was having trouble adjusting to selling the penthouse. Adam thought Connor was having trouble with the memories at the penthouse, just like Chelsea. Chelsea said he was until he truly understood they were leaving the house for good. Connor cried. Adam thought that was odd, since Connor rarely cried anymore. Chelsea said that was how badly it was affecting their son. Chelsea needed Adam to help her make this okay for Connor. He said he’d do anything he could.

Chelsea and Adam went to the ranch and talked with Connor. They tried to put a positive spin on the changes in Connor’s life. Connor didn’t want any more changes. He wanted the penthouse to remain Chelsea’s. Last Adam recalled, Connor was struggling with the memories there. Connor said they made new good memories, like when they were all together on Christmas, and they could do that again. Adam stated that he and Chelsea weren’t together anymore. Chelsea said she and Connor could be happy anywhere – they could have a yard, or they could move into a place with a game room. Connor wanted Chelsea to move to the ranch. Adam thought Connor was smart enough to know that couldn’t happen.

Connor just wanted to be a family again. Adam said he and Chelsea were friends, but they weren’t going to live together again. Connor said that if they wanted him to be happy, they should try living together again. Adam tried to explain that, while they wanted him to be happy, he was going to have to accept this change. Connor had an outburst and stomped to the other side of the room. Chelsea told him that they didn’t have to live in the same house to be a family. Connor just wanted them to spend time together. Chelsea promised they’d spend a lot of time together, but she still had to find a new place to live. She asked him to help, and he agreed. They hugged.

Sally met with Chloe at Society. Chloe said they had to re-evaulate what was going on with Sally and Chelsea. Sally contended that Chelsea felt threatened by her, personally and professionally. Sally thought that Chelsea was the one with the problem and that if anyone left, it should be Chelsea. Chloe said that Sally’s negative attitude was impacting the platform Chloe created. “it’s messing with my dreams which makes it my problem. So, you work for me, which makes it an even bigger problem for you. Do we understand each other?,” Chloe asked.

Sally didn’t think it was a big deal that she hung out with Adam on New Year’s Eve. Chloe said it was affecting their jobs, which meant it was an enormous deal. Sally said she didn’t force Adam to hang out with her, but Chloe said that wasn’t the point. Sally thought the problem was that Chelsea wouldn’t let Adam go, even though he wasn’t interested in her. Sally called Chelsea angry and vindictive. Chloe said Chelsea was her best friend, a spectacular designer, and Sally’s boss, so it was dumb for Sally to say all this about her. Chloe thought Sally and Chelsea were talented ambitious women, but they wouldn’t be able to work together if Sally continued on her current path. “So fix it,” Chloe ordered. Sally protested, and Chloe said it wasn’t a suggestion. Chloe left.

Sally went back to Adam’s office just as he and Chelsea were returning. Sally wanted Adam to look over some paperwork, but he said it wasn’t a good time. He went into the office. Chelsea said not to take it personally and that Adam’s main priority would always be his family. Sally said she understood. After talking with Chloe, Sally had to get something off her chest. Sally hoped she didn’t give Chelsea the impression that she was after Adam. Sally just saw Adam as a boss. All she wanted was to work with Chelsea. “For me,” Chelsea corrected. Sally also wanted to learn from Chelsea. Chelsea was happy to hear that, and she said she and Sally both wanted the fashion platform to be a success.

Billy and Lily were at home basking in the afterglow after celebrating him abandoning the plan to go after Newman Media. He said if this was his reward, he’d ditch his plans more often. She asked if he was sure he wanted to work with her at Chancellor. He told her people would kill to be her COO. He promised no one would be more devoted to her as he was. He couldn’t be more proud to help her take over the world. He thanked her for helping him see that it wasn’t a good idea to try and get to run Newman Media. Lily said Victoria was using Billy. Billy didn’t want to be anchored to the soul-sucking anger that fueled Adam’s existence. It felt good to tell Adam that he wasn’t worth it. Billy realized Adam had taken up too much valuable real estate in his life and mind. He deserved better, and he thought Lily deserved a better him. She said she couldn’t love him more or be more proud.

Billy and Lily put their clothes on, and he said he had to go make amends with his mother. Jill was in Chicago this week, and Billy was going to go apologize in person. Lily offered to go too, but he thought he needed to do this alone. Billy invited Traci over and let her know that he’d abandoned the plan. He said that he realized the plan wasn’t healthy for him, and he appreciated Traci and Lily for showing him the light. Traci was relieved, and she knew Jack would be too. Traci admitted she’d confronted Victoria about the plan. Billy tensed up about Traci interfering and asked if she didn’t think he could handle things on his own. Now that Billy had put an end to the plot, Traci realized he could handle things himself. Billy just wished Traci would stop treating him like a wayward child.

Traci knew Billy was as an adult, which was why she held him accountable for his actions. He asked if she ever felt the need to go to Victor and tell him to leave Jack alone. Traci didn’t, but she’d called Jack out on his behavior countless times, because that ridiculous feud did devastating things to their family. It made her sad and angry that he was holding Jack and Victor’s feud up as an excuse for his behavior. Lily said it was better for Billy to have someone who cared too much for him than too little. Billy apologized, and Traci started crying. She hoped he’d call Jack with this good news. She also suggested that he go back to Jabot, which would’ve made their father happy. He said he was going to work with Lily, and that made Traci very happy. She was proud of her brother, and she knew things would go just great for him. He said he loved her, and he’d see her soon. He went upstairs to pack. Traci asked Lily if Billy was doing as well as he said he was.

Lily assured Traci that Billy was fine. He was doing great until Victor and Adam cut him off at the knees, she said. Lily thought the plan was outrageous, but she supported it because she knew Billy needed to regain what he lost. Lily loved Billy, and she knew he needed someone to believe in him. Everything was going great until Victoria had to insert herself into it. Lily had worried Billy would revert to his destructive behavior, but he didn’t. Lily thought Traci could start to trust Billy and let go. Traci did trust him. She was grateful Lily was in Billy’s life and that she could protect him in a way he didn’t resent. Lily said she and Billy got each other, maybe because they were friends for so long before they got together. Traci looked at Lily and it made her think about what Colleen might be like at her age. Lily had been thinking a lot about Colleen too, lately. Lily and Traci reminisced about the time Colleen and Lily got tattoos and nose piercings, as teens. Lily said neither of them could’ve guessed Lily would become Chancellor CEO. Traci knew her daughter would be proud of her friend. Ever since Lily was little, Traci could tell that Lily was capable of great things. Traci thought Billy was fortunate to have Lily.

Later, Traci was gone, and Billy was all packed. She offered to go to Chicago again, but he knew she needed to stay and prepare for her new job. He promised he’d be back before her first day. They kissed and said their goodbyes, then he left for his flight.

Back at Newman Media, Billy’s insults rang in Adam’s head. He remembered Billy calling him worthless a runner up Newman. Adam grabbed his phone.

After Billy left, Lily got a text from Adam wishing her luck at Chancellor.

Recap written by Christine

Abby put Dominic down for a nap after he had playtime with Chance. Abby tried to assure Chance that it was natural to be unsure about parenting. She said most of the time she was faking it. She told him he was doing well with the baby and that his connection with his son would continue to grow. He didn’t seem convinced, but he appreciated her faith in him. He shifted gears and said they had to make a decision about Devon’s request to have a bigger role in Dominic’s life. Abby recalled Devon saying this was a bad idea, and she thought he may have changed his mind about wanting to amend the agreement. Chance, however, didn’t think Devon was planning to let it go. Chance said that Devon probably meant that it was a bad idea to have the discussion at Crimson Lights.

Chance and Abby acknowledged all Devon had done for Dominic. Abby noted that Mariah got very attached to Dominic, and when Mariah took some time away, it brought her some peace. Abby thought the same thing might happen to Devon, but if it didn’t, they had to do what was best for Dominic. Abby felt that they needed to be together as a family, so Chance could be the best father he could be, and their family time shouldn’t be disrupted. She didn’t want Dominic to be confused about where he lived and who his parents were. Chance said Devon could visit whenever he wanted. Abby agreed, but she was adamant that shared custody was out of the question. Chance said Devon would be disappointed. Abby was sorry about that, but she felt that this was best for their son and their family.

Devon was at home with Amanda. He stared at the framed copy of Dominic’s footprints. He couldn’t get over how Abby and Chance treated him for asking for more time with Dominic. He said they acted like he was attacking their parenting skills. Amanda thought Abby and Chance were in shock. She said it was a complicated situation. He said that Abby and Chance got defensive. Amanda noted that Abby and Chance also knew that Devon was the one who stepped up as a donor and helped track down the man who kidnapped Mariah, and he was there for the baby’s birth. “[Dominic] has a life because of you. [Abby and Chance] know that,” Amanda stated. He was giving Abby and Chance time to process things, because he didn’t want to push and jeopardize the friendship or his chances with Dominic. He wasn’t sure what to do though, and he wanted Amanda’s opinion. Amanda thought Devon’s request was reasonable, and she told him not to let it go.

Devon was kicking himself for not taking Amanda’s advice when she was originally drawing up the agreement. She said the baby was just an idea back then, and he’d had no idea his feelings would change. He said she knew. She hated seeing him hurt like this. He didn’t think he should push Abby anymore, given how upset she got. He thought it was amazing how one little life changed everyone. Amanda didn’t think Dominic changed Devon, she felt that the baby amplified the love, compassion and strength Devon already possessed. She hugged him and said there was nothing wrong with his request. Amanda offered to cook for Devon, and he said it was like she was trying to distract him with food. He wanted a distraction, so they began to kiss, but Abby showed up. Amanda left.

Devon apologized for how intense everything got. Abby apologized for her reaction. Abby said Devon was more than a friend, and she was eternally grateful to him. He said he’d do anything for Dominic. She knew, but she and Chance decided not to change the visitation agreement. “Dominic has a home with his mother and his father,” she stated. Devon wanted it to be clear he wasn’t trying to take Chance’s place as Dominic’s dad. Abby assured Devon that Dominic was adored by his parents, and he’d have a supportive family for the rest of his life. She said Devon was always welcome in their home, but they didn’t want to confuse Dominic, especially since Chance was trying to make up for the time he lost with his son. Devon didn’t want to get in the way of that. Abby reminded Devon that when they talked about creating a child, they all sat down and created boundaries. As the parents, she and Chance thought it was important to adhere to those boundaries. Devon said when they started this journey, they had no idea what path they’d end up on. Abby conceded that she’d thought Chance would be around for most of the pregnancy. She was thankful that Devon was there to help when she thought Chance died, but now her family was intact. She said that Dominic’s father had been through hell, and he needed time to bond with the baby. “And I refuse to let a single thing disrupt that. I hope you understand,” she stated.

Abby knew that wasn’t what Devon wanted to hear, but she asked him to say something; anything, good or bad, because she could take it. He didn’t think there was anything left to say. She was willing to help if she could. She knew Mariah needed some space, and she said she’d understand if he needed that too. He said he wasn’t going anywhere. She was glad. She said that he was always welcome at the Chancellor house. She invited him by today, but he declined. Abby left.

Amanda returned, and Devon brought her up to speed. Amanda scoffed at the notion that it’d be confusing for Dominic to spend time with his godfather. “I’ll tell you what’s confusing. Having his mother run away to a foreign country without telling anyone where she’s going or why,” Amanda griped. Devon said, according to Abby, his request was unnecessary because Dominic already had a mom and dad. Amanda stated that Devon had every right to be angry and disappointed, and he also had options. He was curious about that, and she said he could take legal action.

Devon didn’t want to take Abby and Chance to court. Amanda said this wasn’t a typical donor situation. She noted that Abby and Devon had been friends for years. Amanda thought that the fact that Abby entrusted Devon with Dominic when she left town showed that she considered Devon the de facto father. Amanda said Devon dropped everything and rearranged his life to take care of Dominic while Abby was gone. Devon wanted to know how a court case would go, hypothetically. Amanda said that, as the biological father, Devon could petition for visitation, just like many grandparents successfully did. Amanda said Chance wasn’t there when Devon signed the original contract. Devon asked if that helped or hurt his position. Amanda stated that it complicated things, but it meant Devon’s agreement was with Abby and not Chance. Devon wasn’t sure if there was a deeper reason Abby was fighting him on this. He didn’t know if she was trying to protect Chance or if she felt threatened. He said if he took Abby and Chance to court, it’d affect everyone, including Dominic.

Amanda wasn’t going to tell Devon what to do. He wanted her take, though, so she said it concerned her that Abby and Chance were drawing a line in the sand. It made her wonder what their next move would be. Devon didn’t think Abby and Chance would retaliate – Abby promised he’d always have a place in Dom’s life. Devon acknowledged that he chose to father the child without any stipulations on visitation. Back then, all he’d wanted was to help Chance and Abby start a family. Amanda noted that Chance and Abby had promised Devon he’d be part of that family. He said he needed to be there for Dominic however he could be.

Sharon and Rey flirted at Crimson Lights until Nick came in with gifts for them from Italy. He hoped Christian wasn’t too much trouble. Sharon and Rey loved watching him. Nick’s trip was amazing, and it was the best present he ever gave himself. The change of scenery helped Nick figure some things out. Summer was doing great and she and Kyle were building a great life there with Harrison. Chance came, and Rey went to the patio to talk with him. Sharon noticed that Nick was more relaxed. He took a look at Summer’s life and saw that the distance from the family gave her a chance to grow and challenge herself. It made him realize being a Newman shouldn’t define any part of who he was.

Nick knew he had this awakening about his family before, but they kept pulling him back in. It felt different this time. Sharon was proud of Nick. Nick admitted he hadn’t been completely honest with Sharon about his dream from Christmas Eve. He said Cassie was in it. Sharon hadn’t dreamed about Cassie in so long. She was curious to know what Cassie had been like in the dream. Nick said Cassie had been beautiful, radiant and content. Cassie said an un-examined life wasn’t worth living. Sharon stated that Cassie was always an old soul. Sharon wanted to think the dream was a message from Cassie. Nick said that Noah and Faith were in the dream too, and they encouraged him to follow his heart and get back to his roots. He thought they were talking about the roots he planted. He said his family would keep him grounded – Noah, Faith, Summer, Christian, and Sharon. He’d been drifting for so long, but he finally thought he found what he was looking for.

On the patio, Chance was ready to go back to work, even though the plan had been for him to take it slow. The chief had been a little reluctant to take Chance back soon, so Chance wanted Rey to put in a good word for him. Rey asked what about Abby and the baby. Chance said Abby was supportive, then he changed the subject and asked what case Rey was working on. Rey walked Chance through a missing person’s case. Chance immediately became invested in solving the case, so he took notes on it.

Sharon asked what role she was going to play in Nick’s plan for his life. He told her that she’d always be a big part of his life. Nick was going to recommit to his family and put his children first. Sharon said Nick always did that. Nick’s new plan was going to go further, and it involved Noah. Chance and Rey returned, and Chance and Nick said hi as he left. Nick left too. Sharon told Rey about Nick’s holiday epiphany.

Abby ran into Dominic and his nanny at the park, and she brought her baby home. She told Dominic that he and his dad made everything better. She wondered where Chance was, and her calls went to voicemail. Dominic cried out, and Abby said that was how she felt when she had to talk to his godfather. She wasn’t sure they’d see Devon anytime soon, but she said she’d done the right thing. She thought it was amazing that his dad was home and safe. Chance came home and greeted Abby, and she told him to say hi to the baby too. After Chance cooed at the baby for a bit, Abby said that she’d been worried when she got home, and Chance wasn’t there. Chance said he was with Rey. His eyes lit up when he began to tell Abby about the case. She asked if he’d already gone back to work without telling her. Chance hadn’t put the badge back on. He was just getting the lay of the land at the station, so he’d be caught up when he did go back. He promised he’d never go back to work without talking to her. He admitted it was nice to get his feet wet again. He brought up the case again, and he was very enthusiastic about it. She said she hadn’t seen him this excited in a long time. That seemed to bother her.

Chelsea did some deep breathing at Society to relax. Noah approached her, and she said it had been a day. She mentioned work stress, and he said he wasn’t surprised about that, since she worked for Adam and with Sally. When Noah mentioned that Sally and Adam seemed close in Tuscany, Chelsea had to do her breathing exercise again. Noah was second guessing his decision to work at Newman Media, partially because of Adam, and partially because he’d once thought he needed to escape from the family business. Chelsea asked what made Noah return. He said maybe he wanted to figure out if he was running from Genoa City for the wrong reasons. Things in London didn’t turn out how he thought, and he considered that it might be karma’s way of saying he shouldn’t have run away. He said maybe he should jump into the viper’s nest at Newman Media. She hoped he didn’t see her as a viper. They smiled. While Chelsea thought it was brave of Noah to try and prove something to himself, she said they both knew what kind of damage the Newmans could cause. He agreed. Her advice was not to make himself miserable. Nick showed up, and he told Chelsea she looked fantastic. He asked about her working at Newman Media, and she said she and Adam were working it out day by day. Chelsea left for work. Nick asked Noah to come work for him.

Chelsea was working on the Crimson Lights patio when Rey joined her. She said her job wasn’t going the way she imagined. Rey was interested in hearing about it. Chelsea thought it was a miracle Rey was even talking to her after she poisoned him. She said he was a really good guy. Rey said he wasn’t such a great guy and that there were people behind bars who’d disagree with her. He was curious what made her decide to work at Crimson Lights. She said what was bothering her didn’t really matter, since there was nothing she could do to change it, but she appreciated him asking. She didn’t have many people to talk to these days, so she wasn’t going to repay his kindness by boring him with her issues. He said he’d let her get back to work. Rey went inside, back to Sharon. She kissed him on the cheek and said he really was a good guy.

Recap written by Christine

Adam was at his office, which was still filled with the holiday decorations Sally put up. He flashed back to last night with Sally and smiled. Chloe arrived and said it sounded like someone broke in and had a party. Adam said he was just working late. Chloe didn’t believe Adam was working, because she spotted vodka and caviar sitting on the desk. Adam said he didn’t have to explain himself to her. He asked why she was here. She was here to save him from making a huge mistake that could destroy everything he built. She’d tried, unsuccessfully, to get Sally and Chelsea to stay away from Adam, so now she was here to try and persuade him. She urged him to leave the women alone for his own good. Chloe stated that Sally and Chelsea were ticking time bombs, and if Adam took up with one of them, the other would blow up and destroy his life, and his new fashion platform would implode. He thought that was a threat, but she said it was a fact. If this job turned into a love triangle, Chloe wouldn’t be able to keep the women from each other’s throats. She said that she wanted to see Newman Fashion succeed, and he’d be a fool not to, since they were one of his most profitable divisions. She said it wouldn’t look good if Newman Fashion crashed and burned because he couldn’t keep his personal and professional life separate. She left.

Chelsea ran into Sally at Crimson Lights and asked if she rang in the new year with anyone special. Sally said she spent New Year’s with Adam talking about Newman Fashion, and it was all above board. Chelsea said Adam told her he had zero romantic interest in Sally, so Sally didn’t need to explain herself. Chelsea was just happy Sally wasn’t alone on New Year’s like she was on Christmas. Chelsea guessed Adam took pity on Sally, and Sally said that was indeed what happened. Chelsea wanted to hear the business ideas Sally and Adam discussed. Sally threw some ideas out there, but Chelsea wasn’t keen on any of them, and she rolled her eyes when Sally brought up the success of her wedding dress design again. Sally’s other idea was to pair makeup with outfits for a feature on the site. They could pair lipsticks and lingerie, or do an article called “Does this Eyeshadow Make my Dress Look Fab.” Chelsea thought the headlines sounded too cutesy, and she felt that Newman Fashion should work on doing fashion well before branching into makeup. Sally thought Chelsea was being a little too limited in her thinking. Sally stated that the content she created so far was what made the platform a success, so she thought she knew what it needed, especially if she was going to be the face of the brand.

Chloe showed up because she got Chelsea’s text about meeting for coffee. She didn’t realize Sally would be here. Chelsea said this was an impromptu company meeting. Sally stated that Chelsea shot down all her ideas, including the lipstick pairings. Sally noted that she’d previously run the lipstick idea by Chloe, and she’d loved it. Chloe said they’d try to incorporate Chelsea’s input into the idea. Chelsea decided to leave. After she was gone, Sally said Chelsea was jealous of her, professionally and personally. Chloe reminded Sally that she promised not to cross the line with Adam. Sally said she didn’t. Sally revealed that she did spend some time with Adam last night. Sally told Chelsea about it, because she got the feeling that Chelsea already knew. Chloe was frustrated because Sally promised to stop chasing Adam and focus on her work.

Sally promised nothing happened with Adam last night. Chloe saw the vodka and caviar in Adam’s office when she went by to tell him that he was playing with fire when it came to Sally and Chelsea. Chloe was at her wits end with everyone. She wondered if she was going to regret trying to make things work with Sally and Chelsea. Sally thought Chloe was overreacting, and she didn’t think this would affect their job. Chloe asked if Sally had feelings for Adam that she couldn’t let go of. “This is not high school. I am not trying to steal your BFF’s boyfriend,” Sally said. She thought they should put the personal stuff aside and focus on the business.

Billy was in his living room looking pensive. Lily came downstairs and blew a party horn from New Year’s Eve. She knew what he was thinking about – Victoria was on to his plan, and she’d made demands. Billy set this plan in motion to get vindication, to get Victor and Adam to admit they set him up. That would mean getting Victor and Adam to admit that the allegations about Ashland’s past were true. And Victoria would never allow that. Billy said he wouldn’t get his opportunity to expose Victor and Adam as the criminals they were. Lily suggested that Billy forget about the revenge plot, so they could move on to their lives. Just then, Victoria texted Billy and told him and Lily to meet her at The Grand Phoenix so they could set the next part of their plan in motion.

Lily wondered what was so important that they had to meet Victoria on New Year’s Day. Lily didn’t appreciate being ordered around. Billy didn’t like that clearing his name was now in Victoria’s hands, but he was swallowing his pride and thinking about the bigger picture. He said he could still be vindicated if Adam went after him, Billy sued for libel, crushing Newman Media, Victoria bought it and let him run it. Lily wasn’t convinced Victoria would hold up her end of the bargain. Lily didn’t think Ashland would be too keen on Billy running Newman Media. Billy felt like he knew Victoria well enough to trust that she wouldn’t betray him that way. Billy had weighed the options, and this was the best one. Lily brought up working with her at Chancellor, again. Billy felt he needed to earn that job. Right now his reputation was in shambles, and if he went to work with Lily, it’d feel like a hand me down. He also couldn’t stomach the fact that Adam and Victor were getting off scot free. He was meeting with Victoria, and he hoped Lily would go with him.

Phyllis was at the Grand Phoenix, and she grumbled about the champagne cork someone left on the floor after the celebration last night, instead of cleaning it up. Victoria arrived and said she hoped Phyllis had a wonderful New Year’s Eve. Phyllis said it was spectacular. Victoria was surprised, since Phyllis wasn’t with Nick anymore, and New Year’s Eve was his birthday. Phyllis stated that she was resilient. Victoria wondered who Phyllis spent the evening with. She knew it wasn’t Jack, because he was out of town. Smirking, Victoria theorized that Lauren and Michael let Phyllis be a third wheel. Phyllis said she meant the hotel had a spectacular evening; they got great feedback, and it made her realize her hard work paid off. Phyllis wasn’t there, because she was having a fabulous dinner, but the hotel was packed, and a number of women enjoyed the escape club. Victoria understood why some women would want to usher out a bad year with an escape fantasy, but she wasn’t one of them, because 2021 turned out pretty well for her. “You can’t be serious,” Phyllis said, while laughing. She pointed out that Victoria had found out secrets about her dream man, Ashland. Victoria narrowed her eyes, and Phyllis dropped the subject. Phyllis wondered why Victoria was here bright and early on January 1st, if she was really so deliriously happy. Victoria ordered a carafe of coffee and three cups, then she went to the lounge.

Phyllis followed Victoria and asked if she could get anything else for Victoria and her imaginary friends. At that point, Lily and Billy arrived, so Victoria put an end to the snippy conversation with Phyllis. Phyllis left the area. Victoria had received word that Adam was having a meeting here today, so she thought it was time to kick the plot into overdrive. Victoria felt that it was time to stop focusing on Billy going off the rails – Adam wasn’t taking that bait because it was old news. She believed they should pinpoint Adam’s vulnerabilities to get him to retaliate. Billy knew how to do that, and he sometimes enjoyed it, but he didn’t think he’d have to do it here and now. Lily expressed annoyance that Victoria was involved. Victoria said that when Adam got here, she’d set the stage. She was going to go off on Billy for missing an event with the kids, before they went to boarding school, then Billy could tell Adam that he knew what it was like to be a bad dad. Lily asked why Victoria thought she was in charge now. “Because I am,” Victoria replied.

None of this goes anywhere without Billy and me, so I think you can dial back the orders,” Lily said. Victoria contended that this was her plan now, so Lily and Billy could just relax. Adam arrived, and Victoria was ready to get things going, but then Billy saw Traci walk in, and he said to stop. Adam continued to another section of the hotel. Billy approached Traci and asked what she was doing here. She asked if he was doing something that he didn’t want her to know about. It was a rhetorical question, because Jack told her what Billy was up to. Billy wasn’t happy about that, but Traci said Jack did it because he didn’t want her to worry that Billy was wrecking his life again. Traci was grateful that at least one of her brothers thought to include her. Traci intended to keep an eye on things and make sure they didn’t get out of control, but she wasn’t here to keep tabs on him. She had her own life, and she was here to make a massage appointment. She excused herself. Billy went back to his group and said Traci knew, because Jack told her. Victoria asked how Jack found out. Lily explained that she thought it was cruel not to tell Jack. “Oh, whereas it was fine for me to believe that you were going off the rails?,” Victoria asked. Billy said it wasn’t fine, but he didn’t know if he could trust her with the secret. She noted that he trusted Jack, who told Traci. Billy said that Traci hated lies and deception, and if he tried something in front of her, she’d call him out. Lily thought that they should scrap the entire plan. Victoria refused to throw in the towel because of one hiccup. Lily scoffed and said that Victoria had been in the plan for two seconds. Victoria said she wasn’t going anywhere, so they’d have to get used to it. She said Billy’s plan was so transparent that she saw right through it, so it was clear that they needed her to make it work. Victoria knew Billy enough to know that he wouldn’t just give up on this idea. Billy said that there was a chance Traci would blow this plan out of the water.

Traci talked with Phyllis, who said it might take some time to arrange her spa day. Phyllis departed. Adam returned, and Traci greeted him warmly. He said that the guy he was meeting didn’t show. She hoped he was well. He glanced at Billy and said he was doing pretty well compared to some people. Traci couldn’t help noticing that Adam kept glancing at her brother. He assured her he planned to stay away from Billy, and she was glad to hear that. Adam said Traci really saw the good in everyone, but unfortunately, not everyone was good. Traci hoped Adam wasn’t talking about her brother. He wasn’t. Phyllis walked up. Traci was glad Adam wasn’t referring to Billy, because Billy fought his way back from the same kind of darkness that Adam had embraced. Adam said he’d tried his best to change. Traci knew, and she thought what he did for Faith was incredible. She had a feeling Adam liked to battle too much, though. Phyllis thought Traci was right. Adam said he could say the same about Billy. Traci agreed, which was why she gave Billy the same advice. She wished the men would drop the feud. Adam felt the same way. Phyllis wanted Adam to stop bothering Traci and leave. Adam said that Traci started a conversation with him. He added that Billy brought everything that happened with Gaines on himself – he was his own worst enemy. Traci noted that people used to say the same thing about Adam. Adam agreed, which was why he worked hard to repair his reputation. He was surprised that Billy’s two champions, Traci and Phyllis, didn’t see that he was in a downward spiral.

Adam went over to the trio and wondered why Victoria was spending New Year’s day with her ex instead of her husband. Billy said they were discussing the children, totally innocuous. Billy wasn’t surprised Adam was watching for Billy to make another misstep. Adam said they were kind of hard to miss, then he left. Billy thanked Victoria for not saying anything. She said it wasn’t the right time, but she wasn’t giving up on the plan.

Traci thanked Phyllis for having her back with Adam. Traci admitted Adam was right though – Billy brought a lot of this on himself. Phyllis understood, since she and Billy were a lot alike. She said she’d tried to change, and she made mistakes. Traci said that she knew Phyllis was supposed to have Christmas Eve dinner with the Abbotts, then she didn’t show up. Traci knew that things between Phyllis and Jack were complicated, but they were good friends, and that would never change, especially not because of Jack’s nosy sisters.

Traci went over to talk with Billy, Lily and Victoria. Billy revealed that Victoria knew about the plan and supported it. He hoped Traci could see that this plan was harmless. Traci thought it had the potential to do a bunch of damage. He hoped she wouldn’t tell anyone. She felt like she might explode and say something at any moment. She was sorry, but she didn’t understand why he wanted to engage with Adam. She asked if he couldn’t just enjoy his beautiful children and amazing partner, and the blessing of a healthy relationship with the mother of his children. Billy had his reasons, and he wasn’t going to get into them. Traci implored Victoria to rethink this, for Johnny and Katie’s sake. Victoria always put her children first, and she had complete faith in Billy. She left for the office.

Chelsea went to Adam’s office. He was sorry about last night, and he hated having to rush out and leave her there upset. She said she was fine and that she just got emotional because it was a holiday. She thought they could take Connor to lunch, since he was leaving for school in a couple of days. He agreed. She asked about the work emergency last night, and he said not to be concerned about it. He shifted gears and said he and Jack were discussing the idea of Jabot possibly coming on board as a sponsor for the fashion platform. Chelsea tensed and said Sally pitched the same idea for a fashion/makeup tie in, and Chelsea had turned it down. Chelsea thought that Sally had been so confident about the pitch because she’d already discussed it with Adam. Adam said he and Sally discussed it briefly, but if Chelsea didn’t like the idea, he’d defer to her and Chloe. Chelsea snapped that she’d had enough mind games. “I know Sally was your “work emergency” last night,” Chelsea announced. Chelsea said Sally told her. She thought Sally was trying to mark her territory. Adam said he didn’t belong to anyone. Chelsea wished Adam had been honest with her when he left her place last night. He said he didn’t know exactly what was going on when he left, and she’d been so upset that he didn’t want to make the situation worse. She hated that he ended the year thinking she was such a mess. He said he didn’t think that. Chelsea said she had to work with Sally, so she needed to know how serious things were with him and Sally. He said that there was nothing going on, and even if there was, it was none of her business until it involved Connor. “Are you falling for Sally Spectra?,” Chelsea demanded to know. Adam said he wasn’t dating Sally, and he told Chelsea that she and Sally would have to figure out their work issues. Chelsea said she decided to sell the penthouse, and Adam said he understood.

Chelsea said Sally didn’t deserve Adam. Chelsea was familiar with go-getters like Sally, and they only cared about what was in it for them. Frankly, Chelsea was shocked Adam couldn’t see it. Chloe and Sally arrived. Chelsea said she’d see Adam for their date with Connor, then she left. Chloe followed Chelsea. Chloe felt that Sally and Chelsea kept goading each other. Chelsea maintained that she’d been pleasant with her employee and that Sally didn’t seem to realize that Chelsea was the boss. Chelsea said she shot down some of Sally’s ideas earlier, and Sally was insubordinate because she thought she had Adam on her side. Chloe said they’d straighten things out. Chelsea wanted Sally to be fired.

Back in the office, Sally took down the decorations and said Chelsea was a bit moody today. Adam told Sally to cut it out right now.

Billy and Lily went home. Billy didn’t like this any more than Lily did, but he thought Victoria was right. The idea of going after Adam as a father didn’t sit right with Billy, but he thought they could go after Adam’s relationship with his own father. Billy said that Victor kept betraying Adam and Adam kept running back to him like a scared animal. Lily was unhappy that this was suddenly Victoria’s game, and Lily and Billy were her pawns. Lily was quitting.

Traci went to Victoria’s office to say her piece. Traci felt that this plan was dangerous, and she thought that Victoria might be supporting this out of a personal agenda. If that was the case, Traci wasn’t going to stand by and do nothing. Victoria respected Traci, but this was between Victoria and Billy. Traci said that Billy was her brother, and she had an obligation to do everything in her power to protect him, even if it was from himself. Traci said that protecting Billy used to matter to Victoria too, and they’d worked together to help Billy overcome his gambling addiction. Traci hated to say it, but she thought Victoria was using Billy. Victoria accused Traci of underestimating Billy. Victoria stated that she and Billy were equal partners who both stood to benefit if they took Adam down. Traci hoped that was true, because if Billy suffered at all, it’d be on Victoria’s conscience. Traci left.

Phyllis: Okay, I think that’s it. Here. That’s good, jeremy. Thank you.

Lauren: Hey.

Phyllis: Hey!

Lauren: [ Laughs ]

Phyllis: Happy last day of the year.

Lauren: Right? How are you doing?

Phyllis: I’m good, I’m good. I just talked to summer. And nick had a great birthday apparently. Kyle and summer took him to all their hot spots and favorite restaurants and stuff.

Lauren: Oh, I’m glad that went well and that summer is doing really wonderful. So it’s new year’S…

Phyllis: Mm-hmm.

Lauren: …And, um, you know, I know jack is out of town, not an option, so…

Phyllis: Okay, well, jack was just an option to you.

Lauren: Really? Was he? You know, you can keep saying that, but, alright, so do you have plans tonight?

Phyllis: Um, no. I really don’T. I mean, crystal’s taking care of all the festivities here.

Lauren: Well, good. Then you’re gonna have dinner with michael and me.

Abby: [ Gasps ] Yummy, yummy, yummy. Yummy, yummy, yummy. My little boy. My little guy.

[ Sighs ]

Chance: What would you like to change?

Devon: I mean, for starters, I would just like to spend more time with dominic.

Abby: Well, you know you’re always able to come over here and visit whenever you’d like.

Devon: I do. I was thinking, though, more in terms of — of time, you know, scheduled for just the two of us, where we can plan it out and we can, you know, look forward to it. I was even thinking, too, i mean, he can — he can have his own room in my place for when he stays over.

Abby: Correct me if I’m wrong, but it sounds like you’re asking for shared custody.

Devon: Practically speaking, yeah, that’s what I’m talking about.

Chance: Hey. You’re up. I thought you two were taking naps.

Abby: [ Chuckles ]

Chance: I’m so sorry if he woke you. I totally would’ve grabbed him if I would’ve heard him cry.

Abby: No, there were no tears. I went and checked on him when i woke up, and he was just in there playing with his little fingers and his little toes and being absolutely adorable.

Chance: He’s just too cute.

Abby: Yeah. And besides, that nap was not nearly enough to make up for all the sleep I lost last night thinking about devon’s request. I mean, he wants to change the legal agreement that we made before dominic was born.

Chance: Yeah, I know. He blind-sided both of us there, huh?

Abby: If he had broached the idea of shared custody before, I mean, I think that would’ve changed a lot of our decisions.

Chance: Mm.

Abby: We all agreed to a plan.

Chance: I know, I know, but, you know, that plan didn’t really take into account all the crazy things that happened this year. You know, nobody could have predicted any of that.

Abby: I know. And [Sighs] I know we owe devon so much. I’m incredibly grateful to him, not just for being the donor, but for loving our boy so much and for wanting to be a part of his life.

Chance: Yeah, it’s gonna be really important to dom as he grows up.

Abby: I would never want to do anything to jeopardize that.

Chance: So does that mean you’re thinking about agreeing to devon’s request?

Nate: Is that coffee for me?

Elena: Yes. It’s the least I can do since you’re helping me move today.

[ Both laugh ] Although I have to admit, I am going to miss living above crimson lights. Coffee always at the ready.

Nate: Well, I’ll tell you what, I will buy you an espresso machine and anything else you need to keep you happy in your new home.

Elena: Oh. Well, I don’t need things, silly. I just need you.

Nate: Oh, okay, I’ll just take back those new high-thread-count sheets you bought us, then.

Elena: Don’t you dare.

Nate: [ Chuckles ]

Elena: Can’t wait to sleep in those.

Nate: Mm, I’m looking forward to it, too. But not as much as I’m looking forward to waking up with you in my arms. The perfect start to a new year.

Chloe: My mom came up with the most brilliant idea for tonight. She’s setting all the clocks four hours ahead so the kids can still ring in the new year and make bedtime.

Chelsea: Sounds like fun. I don’t think connor’s gonna fall for that, though.

Chloe: Oh, so you guys are going to be enjoying the actual countdown. Drinking an apple cider toast to 2022.

Chelsea: Actually, connor is spending the night at a friend’s house tonight.

Chloe: Oh, well, I didn’t realize that you were gonna be alone. Why don’t you come out with kevin, lauren, michael, and me.

Chelsea: Oh, thanks, but I’m actually looking forward to a quiet evening at home. I might invite adam over to watch the fireworks, you know, ’cause I have such a great view.

Chloe: [ Sighs ] Chels, I don’t know if that’s such a great idea.

Sally: Aha. Great minds. I was just coming to get something to go, too.

Adam: Sally.

Sally: Have you considered my proposal to do nothing for new year’s eve? We can just hang out and do nothing together.

Adam: Well, it all depends on what the “nothing” is that you want to do.

Sally: So I’ve given it some thought. It’s actually a little overwhelming. There are a lot of ways to not do anything.

Adam: Hmm. Well, do tell.

Sally: Well, we could not plan to go to dinner and just happen to run into each other, you know, same place, same time. Or we could not go to a jazz club and countdown to 2022 in 5/4 time.

Adam: But is that really keeping in the spirit of this whole thing? I mean, getting dressed up and going out, it kind of steers towards the doing-something end of the spectrum.

Sally: Mm-hmm.

Adam: Don’t you think?

Sally: Yes, totally get it, and I really appreciate your commitment to the concept — you know, the whole inertia of it all. A body at rest stays at rest, in which case, maybe just hanging out would be our best option? You know, watching a movie, having some pizza. It’s really, truly the definition of doing nothing.

Adam: Mm-hmm. Can’t be a new year’s-themed movie, though.

Sally: Couldn’t agree more, because, as we said, we are not celebrating the holiday.

Adam: Right, right, right. It’s got to be a movie that we would watch any night of the year.

Sally: Like a slasher flick.

Adam: Really?

Sally: Okay, then, what about hitchcock? Can never go wrong with that. “The birds,” “psycho.”

Adam: “North by northwest,” “vertigo,” “marnie.” As it turns out, I am a huge hitchcock fan.

Sally: Cool. Well, then maybe you’ll hear from me. Or not.

Chelsea: Please don’t make a big issue about me inviting adam over tonight. You were fine with the fact that we spent christmas together.

Chloe: Well, that was totally different, and you know it. It was all about connor. Lots of co-parents suck it up for the holidays for the sake of their kids.

Chelsea: “For the sake of their kids” — what are you trying to say, that adam’s just tolerating my presence to keep connor happy? That if it wasn’t for our son, he’d want nothing to do with me?

Chloe: That is not what i meant.

Chelsea: We’re friends, okay? Even after everything I put him through. He hired you, then he hired me, trying to re-launch my career. I mean, it’s got to be a sign of something.

Chloe: Well, if you ask me, it was a sign of his guilty conscience over what he put the mother of his child through.

Chelsea: I know the difference. He cares about me, and it’s from his heart, not from some misguided sense of obligation.

Chloe: Okay, so we’re talking about a lovely, genuine, platonic friendship. And that’s where it stops, right? No. No, no, no, chelsea. Please tell me that you are not going down this path again.

Chelsea: I can’t help how i feel.

Devon: [ Sighs ] Hey, guys.

Nate: Hey!

Devon: Here I am. Here to help out. Put me to work.

Elena: Devon, I didn’t realize you were helping me move.

Nate: Well, I didn’t mention it because I wasn’t sure cuz here was even gonna show. He was pretty noncommittal when I asked him.

Devon: Oh, no, you guys always know that I’m down to help out.

Elena: Great. Nate, why don’t you get us all fresh coffees, and I will go box up the last few things.

Nate: Alright.

Devon: Sounds good.

Nate: [ Sighs ] So, how’s it going? Thinking about you and dominic, wondering if abby and chance got back to you about spending more time with him?

Devon: Not a word yet. And the more time that goes by, the less optimistic I am.

Abby: The more I think about what devon is asking of us, the worse I feel. I mean, I could have asked anyone to take care of dom while I was away. I mean, a number of people would have wanted to do it, but, no, I-I chose devon.

Chance: Well, because you trusted him. You knew he’d take good care of our son.

Abby: Yeah, but if he had told me he was having a hard time maintaining emotional boundaries…

Chance: Well, it might’ve not been an issue then. You know, maybe it wasn’t until I got back and he saw me struggling to adjust, maybe that’s when he started having concerns.

Abby: No. I don’t think he would hold that against you. He knows everything that you’ve been through and he knows that you’re doing your best. If anything, I think he has an issue with my parenting.

Chance: [ Sighs ]

From the very first touch,

Phyllis: That’s very sweet of you, lauren. Thank you very much. But you know I’m — I’m me. You know, I’m not a third wheel. I’m not going to crash your romantic dinner with michael.

Lauren: No, no, no, you wouldn’t be a third wheel. Chloe and kevin are gonna be there.

Phyllis: Ugh. Nice. That doesn’t make it more appealing, just so you know. I mean, besides, I’d be a fifth wheel, crashing with two couples. No.

Lauren: Mnh-mnh. Look, this is not a pity invite. I actually really need you. I need you to referee between chloe and me ’cause there’s still tension after she allowed sally to pull that whole thing with victoria’s wedding dress.

Phyllis: Oh, you know I’m on your side with that, and I would encourage you to call her every name in the book.

Lauren: Thank you. So I will be hurling insults in your ear all night long, getting it out of my system so I don’t ruin michael and kevin’s good time.

Phyllis: Huh. Trash talking with an occasional side-eye.

Lauren: Exactly.

Phyllis: That could be fun.

Lauren: Right? So you in?

Chance: Abby, I can’t imagine devon or anyone questioning your parenting. I mean, everyone knows how much you love dom.

Abby: Well, maybe it wasn’t clear when I dropped our baby off at devon’s doorstep and headed off to spain. Maybe he thought that was incredibly irresponsible. I mean, even you, you had some concerns about that. You can’t argue that point.

Chance: Abby, I was concerned about your safety. Okay? I understood why you felt compelled to come look for me, and I’m sure devon does, too. Especially since your instincts were right.

Abby: Maybe he thinks a good mother would never abandon their baby, under any circumstances.

Chance: I have never heard him say anything like that.

Abby: He wouldn’t have to say it. He wouldn’t have to say it. He would do exactly what he’s doing right now, by asking for a bigger role, wanting to be a bigger influence in dominic’s life, wanting to be his protector.

[ Scoffs ] And let’s not forget that he witnessed me letting stitch back into our lives, which shows terrible judgment.

Chance: Hey. No one can blame you for what happened with stitch, okay? There’s no way you could’ve known any of that was gonna happen. Are you kidding?

Abby: Devon knew that something was off. Maybe his protective instincts are better than mine.

Chance: Hey, relax. Breathe. Okay, all of these thoughts are coming up because you’re exhausted, you’re upset. Take a second.

Abby: Yeah. Maybe you’re right. Maybe that’s what it is, but what happens if we tell devon no? How’s he gonna react?

Chance: I don’t know. I — I mean, you know him better than I do. How far do you think he’d take this?

Chelsea: Can we please skip the same old argument about why adam and I shouldn’t get back together?

Chloe: You would think that after everything that he’s put you through, I wouldn’t have to remind you.

Chelsea: I understand your points. I really do. I understand. In the past, our relationship has been very toxic and it caused me to almost lose my mind, but I’ve learned from my mistakes. I’ve learned from them. I’ve left them in the past.

Chloe: Why do you have such tunnel vision when it comes to this guy? There are so many men out there. Beautiful, sweet, non-toxic men who would make you so happy.

Chelsea: I don’t doubt they exist, but what adam and I have is unique.

Chloe: What is it, chels? Do you think that you’re incapable of having a healthy relationship? Do you think that you’re unworthy of it?

Chelsea: You didn’t see us at christmas, okay? It was normal and it was special. It was two caring, mature adults doing what’s right for our son.

Chloe: [ Scoffs ] That was the point — for your son.

Chelsea: No, but — no, it was for us, too. I haven’t felt this happy or more at peace in a really long time, chloe. That’s got to stand for something, right?

Chloe: I am really glad that you were able to spend a few hours together without being destructive. Yes, it is a huge improvement. And that you got through it for the sake of your son, but it doesn’t prove that everything is going to work out in the long run.

Chelsea: I am convinced adam has changed, and I’m not the only person who thinks that. He’s made amends with his father, with his siblings. He’s — he’s calmer, less selfish, more settled. And I’m different. I’ve changed. I’ve worked so hard on myself. I’m not gonna fall into those same traps.

Chloe: And that is great and all, but it doesn’t mean that you should get back with him.

Chelsea: Well [Sighs] If it makes you feel any better, adam is skeptical about us working, as well, you know? Of course he’s gonna be a little gun-shy, considering what I did, but I really think that if i give him some time, he will learn to trust me again.

Chloe: Okay, you seem like you are very determined and anything I say is not gonna keep you from going down this pipe dream, so, please, please just for tonight, will you just come out with your friends and have some fun for new year’s eve? Okay, you can call adam tomorrow.

Chelsea: Why is it so important to you that I don’t see adam tonight? Do you know something I don’t?

Chloe: What? I-I don’t know why you would — why you would say that.

Chelsea: Tell me. Does adam have plans already?

[ Gasps ] Does adam have plans with sally? I brought in ensure max protein,

Chloe: I don’t know what adam is doing tonight. Why would I? We don’t discuss our social calendars.

Chelsea: Does sally have plans with you and kevin tonight?

Chloe: No, no.

Chelsea: But not because you didn’t invite her. You did, didn’t you? What was her excuse?

Chloe: She was very vague about the whole thing. She only said that she had plans, which made me wonder why she was being so evasive.

Chelsea: [ Gasps ] Her plans are with adam, aren’t they?

Chloe: I do not know, and I’m not going to speculate.

Chelsea: Well, I can’t imagine what else she’d want to hide.

Chloe: Don’t be so sure of that. Sally is quirky. She could be up to lots of weird stuff.

Chelsea: Well, exactly, and usually she’s brag about it. I’ve spent enough time with her. I’ve realized she’s not quiet about anything unless she has a reason, and she didn’t want to admit she was ringing in the new year with adam because you’ve warned her a bazillion times to stay away.

Chloe: Oh, just as many times as I’ve warned you.

Chelsea: That’s totally different. Adam and I share a history. We share a child.

Chloe: Yeah, and I keep telling you to just leave the past in the past. I don’t want either one of you to get mixed up with this snake.

Chelsea: I get it, chloe. I get it. I know exactly how you feel about adam.

[ Sighs ] So, how do you plan to put a stop to this?

Chloe: What do you mean? I have no say in the matter. Adam does not need my permission as to who he can go out on a date with.

Chelsea: Whoa, so it is a date?

Chloe: [ Sighs ] It was wrong — it was wrong choice of words. Sally specifically said that she was not going out on a date.

Chelsea: Who cares what sally says? She’s obviously trying to get her hooks into adam.

Chloe: [ Sighs ] You know…what does it matter anyway? What does it matter? The last thing you should be doing is sitting here by yourself stewing over what adam is up to. Please, please just come out with your friends. Let’s have fun tonight. We’ll throw our hair down, party like it’s 2022. You being here alone is just not — it’s not a healthy choice.

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] You’re right. Definitely wouldn’t be.

Chloe: Great. Okay, so kevin and I will be by around 9:00. We’ll pick you up.

Chelsea: Sorry, but, like our friend sally, I’ve got plans now.

Elena: Hey.

Nate: Hey.

Elena: Is everything alright with devon? He seems a little off.

Nate: [ Sighs ] He’s still waiting to hear back from abby and chance about increasing his visitation time with dominic.

Elena: Does he think they’re gonna have a problem?

Nate: They’ve gone all day without giving him an answer. I mean, it’s possible his request didn’t go over so well, and I don’t feel too great about it.

Elena: Why?

Nate: I’m the one who convinced him to talk to them about his feelings. And now it seems like it might have backfired.

Elena: Well, I mean, don’t you think it’s too soon to assume the worst? Maybe they’re talking to their lawyers about amending the legal agreement. It’s pretty hard to track those people down during the holidays.

Nate: You would think newman-abbott-chancellor lawyers would make themselves available 24/7. But [Sighs] Maybe you’re right and this doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll turn devon down. That would be a tough blow. Little dominic means so much to him.

Abby: I mean, I can’t even believe that we’re having to think about this. Devon has been so supportive through this whole process, from the very beginning. I mean, up until now. And now we have to think about how far he’ll go.

Chance: I know, I’m sorry that I even mentioned it. Look, I bet the contract that you guys have is totally solid. I bet it’s fine.

Abby: Yes, yes, it is. I mean, christine and I went through it line-by-line. Although I-I hope it’s not gonna be an issue that I handled it while you were gone.

Chance: No, no, and I doubt we get to the point where we even have to worry about any of that, okay? Whatever we decide, though, we have to handle it in a way that’s respectful for devon, you know, and his feelings, ’cause he’s real sincere, the way he talks about dom. He wants to protect him.

Abby: Yeah, yeah, he is, and even though we’ve assured him time and time again that he will always have access to dom, I mean, I guess it must be scary for him that he has no — no legal guarantee. But, look, we have to do what’s best for our son and our family.

Chance: I know, I know. Hey, let’s take a break from all this, okay? Let’s clear our heads, get some fresh air. How about a walk?

Abby: Please, yeah.

Chance: Come on.

Abby: Yeah.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Adam: Hey, chelsea.

Chelsea: I need to talk to you. It’s important.

Adam: What — are you okay? You sound upset. Is connor okay?

Chelsea: I don’t want to discuss it over the phone. Can you come to the penthouse?

Adam: Uh…sure.

Chelsea: Soon?

Adam: Yeah, yeah. I’m leaving right now. Do you struggle with occasional nerve aches

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Elena: I got you guys some snacks to keep your energy up.

Nate: Mmm. Oh, look who’s here. Baby dominic.

Abby: Oh, and abby and chance, too.

[ Laughter ]

Elena: Hi to abby and chance, too.

Nate: Sorry, guys, baby trumps parents every time.

Abby: Mm.

Chance: Guess we got to get used to that, huh?

Nate: Oh, we almost missed you guys. We’re actually in the process of moving elena’s things to my place.

Abby: How wonderful.

Chance: Congrats, man.

Nate: Thank you.

Elena: Hi, baby dominic. I missed you so much.

[ Laughter ]

Dominic: [ Giggles ]

Elena: You guys, I think he remembers me. He’s smiling.

Abby: Yeah, he probably does. I mean, devon was telling us that you checked in on him while we were in europe.

Elena: Yeah, we also spent thanksgiving together. Really had a chance to bond with this little guy.

Nate: [ Chuckles ]

Devon: Wondering what took you guys so long. Hey.

Nate: Hey, devon. Elena got us some snacks for helping her move.

Devon: Oh, thank you. I’m all set, though. Appreciate it.

Nate: [ Clears throat ]

Elena: Uh, nate, um, can you help me with something?

Nate: Sure, babe.

Elena: See you guys.

Abby: Yeah, bye.

Nate: See you guys later.

Chance: See you.

Devon: How’s my little guy doing? What’s going on, buddy?

Chance: Oh, you know, just out for a little walk, grabbing a little hot chocolate. Hate to tell you, man, but we don’t have a decision for you yet.

Devon: Oh, that’s — that’s more than fine. I want you guys to take all the time you need. Alright? I’m gonna — I’m gonna get back up there and start helping out before they think I ditched them. So, see ya.

Abby: Actually, devon, can i have a word with you privately for a moment?

Devon: Yeah, of course you can.

Phyllis: Yeah. Uh, okay, I decided. I’ll get all dressed up. I’ll spend new year’s eve with you and michael and chloe and kevin.

Lauren: Oh, yay! It’s gonna be fun.

Phyllis: Yay! It will, it will. Friends, champagne, a potential cat fight between you and chloe — it’s great. What better way to ring in the new year.

Lauren: Right. I mean, there is a way that you could improve it.

Phyllis: Why? How? What’s that?

Lauren: Well, you could call or text jack happy new year, and let him know that even though you rejected his christmas eve invitation, that things are good between the two of you.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] Things are good between us. Listen, I only know he was out of town because you told me. He didn’t tell me himself.

Lauren: Well, maybe he doesn’t know that it’s okay to contact you and that you’d want to hear from him. Alright, just think about it, okay? Think about it. And I’ll see you tonight.

Phyllis: It’ll be fun.

Lauren: I know, so much fun.

Kevin: Huh? Look. Miles is gonna love laughing at me wearing these. And…how cute is our little princess gonna look wearing this? Almost as cute as her mom would look. Alright, what’s going on with you? You don’t seem like you’re ready to ring in the new year.

Chloe: I’m worried about a work situation. It hasn’t impacted work yet, but it has the potential to cause a boatload of issues down the line.

Kevin: Explain.

Chloe: Okay, here goes. Despite my best efforts to dissuade sally, she is determined to flirt with disaster in the form of adam newman.

Kevin: Not this again. What has she done now?

Chloe: Well, she won’t admit it, but I assume that she’s already made plans with adam for the new year’s eve, and normally it wouldn’t be that bit a deal — it would just be annoying — but now chelsea suspects what’s up and she’s not happy about it.

Kevin: Why would chelsea even care? I thought she and adam were through.

Chloe: I wish. No, she still considers adam her destiny. Go figure.

Kevin: Hmm, nothing to worry about there. It’s not like chelsea has a history of overreacting or anything when she gets jealous, just ask sharon.

Chloe: Now you understand why I’m freaking out.

Kevin: How did chelsea even find out about it? Don’t tell me that adam was cruel enough to rub it in her face.

Chloe: Nope. It’s on me, actually. I did my best to steer my dear friend in the opposite direction, but she — she just saw right through me, and now she’s got this plan, presumably to keep adam away from sally.

Kevin: Do you know what it is?

Chloe: No. She made me leave without telling me anything, and that’s why I am so nervous right now.

[ Sighs ]

Chelsea: Thanks for coming.

Adam: What happened? Where’s connor?

Chelsea: Oh, connor’s fine. He’s spending the night at a friend’s house.

Adam: Okay. So what has you so upset?

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] It’s nothing specific. It’s just…

[ Sighs ] It’s just all been building up, and I can’t take it anymore. I have to get out of here. This is a gamechanger, Aside, and can we please justmanipulative narcissist in the

Kevin: I get why you’re nervous. Two reckless, impulsive women competing for the same manipulative narcissist in the same workplace? That is a recipe for disaster.

Chloe: Thanks. That’s so reassuring.

Kevin: But the good news is there is nothing you can do about it tonight, so put it aside, and can we please just enjoy our last date night of the year?

Chloe: I wish I could. I’m so sorry. I really do, but I have put so much time and energy into building this platform from scratch. I can’t just sit back and watch this whole thing blow up.

Kevin: Well, even if the worst thing happens, right, would it be so terrible if you lost this job and never had to worry about sally or adam again, huh?

Chloe: I know that I only got involved because it was mostly about having a safe place for chelsea to land after everything that she had been through, but I’m so invested in this now. I can’t stand by and watch all of the hard work that I’ve done just go down the drain because of some jealous rivalry.

Kevin: Don’t you think sally and chelsea are worried about that, too?

Chloe: Oh, no. No, no, they are just so nonchalant about the whole thing.

[ Scoffs ] Chelsea keeps saying, “oh, don’t worry about it.” “Oh, everything’s gonna be fine,” sally keeps telling me. Meanwhile, they are both on this collision course of epic proportions.

Kevin: And you’re stuck in the middle, trying to make sure tragedy doesn’t strike.

Chloe: How can two such incredible, beautiful, amazing, talented women who have so much going for them just get sucked into thinking that adam, of all people, is worth fighting for?

Kevin: Wish I knew. Obviously they see something in him we don’T.

[ Chuckles ]

Chloe: After everything he’s done. He doesn’t deserve to have anybody care about him. He deserves to be alone and miserable for the rest of his life.

Kevin: Be sure to tell him that.

[ Chuckles ]

Chloe: Maybe that is the solution. Instead of trying to have to get through to either of the women in this bermuda triangle, maybe I can convince adam to distance himself from both of them. Even if it’s out of his own self-interest, and of course it would be, because that’s all he ever cares about. Great idea. Thanks for the suggestion.

Chelsea: You of all people should understand why I’m upset. My reasons for wanting to leave this penthouse are the same as yours. The memories — I mean, they — they permeate through every inch of this place. They haunt me in every room.

Adam: I totally get what you’re feeling.

Chelsea: And I’ve tried — I’ve tried to get past it, adam. I really have, for connor’s sake, because I know he loves it here. I know he loves being back in his old room. But he doesn’t know everything that’s happened here. He doesn’t have to live with the ghosts lurking around every corner.

Adam: Yeah, I felt them, too.

Chelsea: All the times we hurt each other. All those days I spent trapped in my own mind, silently screaming to get out. I wish I could just go back in time and shake myself and force myself to get rid of all the negativity and the anger and the bitterness and realize — realize what I was throwing away before it was too late.

Adam: [ Sighs ] I’ve been exactly where you are, and I have felt the same feelings. And you’re right, it was easier for me to move out than to live with the constant awful reminders. So if you’re asking me for permission to move out, you have it. When I gave you the penthouse, i said you can do whatever you want with it.

Chelsea: I’m not asking for permission.

Adam: Then what? Forgiveness? You have that, too. I have zero desire to punish you for the mistakes of the past, chelsea. Okay, we have suffered enough already, and connor, too. I mean, I thought I made that clear enough already.

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] What hurts more than the dark memories are the beautiful ones. All the loving ones, filled with so many promises that we just didn’t keep.

Abby: So chance and I have been talking a lot and thinking about what you asked us.

Devon: Well, know that I’m not trying to rush you into any kind of decision, okay? I want you guys to take your time, and if you have any questions for me —

Abby: Yeah, yeah, I have a lot of questions because we just — we did not see this coming.

Devon: To be honest, abby, i didn’t see it coming either. I really didn’T. Um, but I certainly didn’t mean to just spring it on you like i did.

Abby: Are you mad at us about something? Is there something that we did and you just never said anything until now?

Devon: No, no, of course not. I told you guys, it’s not — it’s not about anything you guys did. This is about me just wanting to spend more time with dominic. Honestly. And also, I want to be a support for you and chance. I want to be someone that you guys can both rely on the same way that dominic can.

Abby: [ Scoffs ] So, when you say that you want my son to be able to rely on you, is that because you think he can’t rely on me?

Devon: No, not at all.

Abby: Devon, just, please, be honest with me. Is this about spain? Did you feel like I abandoned my son, that I let him down?

[]

Adam: I don’t think it’s a good idea for either of us to dwell on the past, chelsea.

Chelsea: Well, it’s easy for you to say, adam. You moved away from this place and all the memories. Tonight is new year’s eve, and i can’t help but think back on that night two years ago.

Adam: Do you really want to go back there right now?

Chelsea: I can’t help it. You stood right there, all alone. I walked in. We connected eyes. We didn’t have to say any words. I fell right back into your arms. You remember the fireworks that night? They were pretty spectacular. I knew right then that I was exactly where I needed to be. The next day, we decided to put our family back together.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Chelsea, a lot has changed since then.

Chelsea: There was so much hope and excitement and — and love between us. What happened, adam? How did we lose it all?

Abby: Abby, you’re completely taking this the wrong way, ’cause I’m not criticizing your parenting skills or chance’S.

Abby: You trusted us to take care of our son alone before, I mean, and now it seems like something’s changed.

Devon: Nothing’s changed at all. No one said that I don’t trust you. That’s not what this is about. I know that you guys are going through a lot right now, especially chance being back home, right?

Abby: Chance told me about your conversation.

Devon: Okay.

Abby: And, yes, he’s not used to taking care of a baby, but he will learn.

Devon: Of course he’s gonna learn, and I think he’s gonna end up being a great parent, too. I’m just trying to help you.

Abby: There is more to this than just that, and we both know it. You’re not asking to babysit. You’re asking for shared custody, for legal rights to my son.

Devon: You know what? If you and chance are feeling so defensive about this, that’s not my intention. This was a bad idea, okay?

Dominic: [ Crying ]

Abby: I-I need to get back to dominic.

Chance: It’s okay, it’s okay, buddy. Hey! Hey, you guys are good. We’re totally fine. We’re totally good.

Abby: Yeah, you got it. You got this.

Chance: Hey, buddy. You’re alright, you’re alright, you’re alright.

Dominic: [ Crying ]

Chance: You’re alright.

Devon: I’m gonna take off, guys, alright?

Chance: Yeah, see?

Abby: Hey.

Devon: Hey, guys, I know that I said that I’d help out today, but something came up and I got to take off. I’m sorry.

Nate: Yeah, cool. No problem.

Elena: I guess that didn’t go well.

Next week on

“the young and the restless”…

Lily: Why does it seem like all of a sudden you think that you’re in charge now?

Victoria: Because I am.

Nick: Maybe there are greener pastures out there for you.

Noah: Where would that be?

Nick: Come work for me.

Adam: My personal life is not your business anymore until it involves connor, and this isn’t like that at all.

Chelsea: But it might be in the future? Sounds like you’re leaving the door open for that. Are you falling for sally spectra?

[ Knock on door ]

Sally: I am here on a mission. The latest video of billy abbott —

Adam: The one sent by an anonymous friend?

Sally: Yeah. I wanted to see what came of that.

Adam: Um, nothing…yet.

Sally: You know, I just have to say, you seem to know the guy pretty well. He showed up at the dive bar, just like you said he would, and he seemed very interested in the poker action.

Adam: Well, the way that billy’s been acting out and drinking, predicting his next move wasn’t that much of a feat. But you captured it all. Well done. You’re the best.

Sally: “Best,” yes. Yes, I know. I got the text after the video I sent you.

Adam: It was much appreciated.

Sally: Then maybe you wouldn’t mind telling me what you plan to do with the information that I’ve given you.

Adam: Shouldn’t the satisfaction of watching me turn the tables on adam be enough for you?

Victoria: Well, assuming that he buys this act of yours that you’re drinking and gambling again and spinning out of control.

Billy: Oh, he will. And when he does, he’s gonna use newman media to shame me. And that is when I threaten to sue him and his company into oblivion.

Victoria: If you didn’t think billy could pull this off, you wouldn’t be here making demands in exchange for your silence.

Victoria: Well, let’s just assume that everything goes according to plan and adam takes the bait and he goes scorched earth on you in the press.

Billy: You know him. He won’t be able to resist.

Victoria: I won’t tip off adam or my father if, and only if, you go through with this lawsuit. And I don’t mean just threaten him. I mean hit him hard. Demand a crushing amount of money.

Billy: This isn’t about money, victoria, and there’s no guarantee that newman media would have to pay out a dime.

Victoria: Yes, but the damage to the reputation would be devastating. It would be enough.

Billy: All I want is an admission from adam that he set me up. That would be vindication for me. And I think you know I deserve that.

Victoria: Vindication would mean public acknowledgement that the story that you published about ashland, about his criminal activities, was true.

Billy: It is true.

Victoria: It would require my husband to take a hit for things that he did in the distant past. Why would I go along with that, billy?

Billy: You want to use my lawsuit to scoop up newman media, the company your father snaked out from you when you were trying to acquire it.

Victoria: I’m simply giving you the terms for my silence.

Rey: Thank you.

Chelsea: Hey, there.

Rey: Hey. How’s it going?

Chelsea: It’s good. It’s good. Although I seem to have misplaced my gloves, so I was circling back to check the lost and found.

Rey: Well, when my waiter comes back with my takeout order, we can ask him.

Chelsea: Sounds good. So how was your christmas?

Rey: You know, it was really nice. All of sharon’s kids were there, so that was a lot of fun. How was yours?

Chelsea: It was wonderful to be with connor again. You know, he was just so thrilled to be able to spend time with both of his parents, even if it was just for a day.

Rey: Yeah, I’ll bet.

Rey: [ Laughs ] Right. Needless to say, I was super impressed.

Chelsea: Yeah. Listen, I’m just glad connor has a passion. It’s both fantastic and terrifying, given all of the blades and flying pucks, but I’m excited for him.

Rey: So how are you?

Mariah: So how soon after elena moves out, could we move in?

Sharon: Um, well, I want to just shampoo the rugs and steam-clean the upholstery, paint the place.

Tessa: I mean, I think it looks perfect the way it is.

Sharon: Okay, well, then I’ll keep it the same color. But, you know, there’s a process I go through any time I turn the place over for a new tenant, and I would do the same for you girls.

Mariah: Tessa and I have always talked about raising a child together someday.

Tessa: I mean, we’ve both had separate conversations with you about that.

Sharon: Mm-hmm. So this is a ways off?

Mariah: It was.

Tessa: Not anymore.

Mariah: Yeah, we decided that we want to get the process started now instead of down the road.

Tessa: And by process, she means adoption.

Sharon: [ Gasps ] I see.

Tessa: Yeah, I mean, we just wanted to start seeing how it all works. I mean, what the legalities are, how long it’s gonna take.

Mariah: And when tess’s new album comes out, I mean, she’s gonna be on the road all the time.

Tessa: Yeah, not the best time to conceive.

Mariah: And the doctor said I should wait at least a year before getting pregnant, so, realistically, adoption made the most sense to us.

Sharon: Well, it sounds like you’ve given this a lot of careful thought, which I’m happy to hear.

Mariah: This is a decision that tessa and I made together. You know, we did not take this lightly. We had a lot of long, in-depth conversations about this, you know, what I went through, how it affected me, taking on the responsibility of bringing another life into this world.

Tessa: I mean, I never thought that this would be possible for me, until mariah, because of how big our love is. It’s big enough to fit a child into our little family. So that’s where this is coming from. It’s an expression of our love and commitment to each other.

Mariah: We wouldn’t be going into this if we both weren’t ready, genuinely sure. And now we are.

Adam: No decision has been made.

Sally: Meaning you’re not gonna use what I sent?

Adam: [ Sighs ] Would it really matter to you either way?

Sally: Honestly, I’m kind of ambivalent about the whole thing. Seeing him gamble, secretly spying on him, knowing that he’s an addict, it’s not exactly taking the high road.

Adam: Okay, well, let me just get one thing straight. I don’t take any pleasure about watching the man relapse. It’s not something that i wanted. It’s not something that i caused, as much as billy tries to proclaim that when he’s had a few too many. When he came after ashland, he pushed people that he knew would push back. He took a gamble, and he lost, and his career took a major hit.

Sally: Yeah, it sure seems that way.

Adam: And still, it’s not like billy’s out on the street. He’s a trust-fund baby that has lots of opportunities. He could jump on the executive team at jabot or chancellor if he wanted to. But unfortunately, he’s the kind of guy that doesn’t like to cut his losses and walk away after he’s had a big loss.

Sally: Yeah, I mean, that fits with everything I’ve observed.

Adam: Mm-hmm. More often than not, he’ll end up doing something even more reckless. I mean, he threatened me openly. And some people might write that off as his anger or his booze, but I think it would be a mistake not to be prepared.

Sally: So the information that I’ve been feeding you is basically protection in case billy comes after us somehow?

Billy: I think there’s a way for both of us to benefit here.

Victoria: How?

Billy: If or when you get newman media back, you let me run it.

Victoria: You?

[ Laughs ] Oh, please.

Billy: Why do you say it like that?

Victoria: Oh, billy, do i have to spell it out for you? I mean, you failed at running chanccomm. Do you think I’m gonna give you a shot at a repeat performance?

Billy: Victoria, I did not fail. I was a victim of a very carefully orchestrated plan by victor and adam to destroy me, when they insisted that the story about ashland wasn’t true, but we all know it is. Nonetheless, I never planned on publishing that story. Ashland’s lawsuit was enough to cripple us. So I swallowed every ounce of pride that I had, and I made a very public retraction, and i stepped down from chanccomm to not watch it be sold or dismantled right in front of me. Then I came up with this plan to force victor and adam to acknowledge what they did. This is about salvaging my reputation, my credibility, my name. Don’t take that away from me. You owe me this much.

Victoria: Well, you make a very compelling case.

Billy: Do we have an agreement?

Victoria: I wasn’t expecting a counterproposal.

Billy: So what were you anticipating? That I was just gonna do whatever you said, as long as you agreed not to screw me over?

Victoria: I’m willing to look the other way while the game is afoot, providing that you follow through with your threat, file suit, go after real damages. Give me something to work with, billy.

Billy: Right, so you end up with newman media and chanccomm, and I’m out in the cold with victor and adam?

Lily: That’s a clever strategy.

Billy: It is, isn’t it?

Victoria: I haven’t said no to anything, have I?

Billy: No, but you haven’t said yes. It feels like you’re giving yourself a little wiggle room.

Victoria: Oh, I see. So now you’re critiquing my choice of words. That’s not really a good way to get me to go along with your plan.

Billy: Yeah, but see, the fact that I pay attention to words should prove that I’m able to run a media company.

Victoria: Oh, come on. You want to be ceo, not copy editor.

Billy: I believe you should be able to run every aspect of your company.

Victoria: I don’t disagree with that, but a good leader also shows good judgment, and you’ve given me plenty of reason to doubt you.

Billy: You know what this is, vick? A classic victor move. Or maybe this is about ashland, because he wishes he sold cyaxares to you to begin with.

Victoria: Don’t worry about my motivation. One word from me, and your plan is — it’s finished.

Billy: Let me ask you something. Are you enjoying my downfall? Are you enjoying your father strutting around talking about what a loser I am? Adam lapping it up, enjoying every minute of it?

Victoria: My personal feelings are beside the point.

Billy: That’s very convenient for you, because this is my life, this is my reputation. And we have worked very hard to make sure that our kids are not affected by this. You want them to find all this out? Because they will. Is that what you want? Look, you want to be the tough negotiator. That’s fine. Let me say this — me running newman media is good business. I can continue the good work that I did at chanccomm for both of your companies.

Lily: Billy, you’re losing sight of what this plan was about in the first place.

Billy: After everything that adam has done to me, after everything victor has done to me, everything that I’ve been through, I deserve this.

Victoria: I’ll take everything that you said under consideration.

Adam: This evidence of billy drinking and gambling, it’s nothing new. Given how many times it’s happened in the course of his life, it has lost its shock value.

Sally: That’s sad.

Adam: Yeah, it is. And I understand why you’re on the fence about exposing his behavior after seeing it up close. And while I am grateful that you captured on video for the good of the company, what happened doesn’t warrant a preemptive strike.

Sally: Well, I am really relieved to hear you say that, because I was not looking forward to a big war that could mess up the plans that we have for newman fashion.

Adam: No, that is the last thing that I want, so you have nothing to worry about. Just keep doing your job and coming up with great ideas. I expect 2022 is going to be a breakout year.

Sally: Yeah, I have a feeling that it’s gonna be a good one. How do you plan to ring it in? Do you have any plans for new year’s eve?

Adam: [ Exhales sharply ] Actually, no. You?

Sally: No, I don’t have anything going on either.

Adam: Well — well, aren’t we exciting?

Sally: You know, here’s a thought. What if we did nothing together? Like as friends, of course, and work colleagues.

Adam: It’s very original.

Sally: Mm. Just like me.

Chelsea: I’m happy because my son is happy.

Rey: I asked about you. You can be honest with me, chelsea.

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] You’re one of the few people I feel I can tell the unvarnished truth to, which is saying a lot considering our history.

Rey: Mm. Well, I’ve seen you climb out of that dark place you were in, get your life back together, be the kind of mom that connor needs you to be. Says a lot about you.

Chelsea: I’m still finding my way. I don’t feel settled back into my life here yet.

Rey: That’s understandable. You just got back.

Chelsea: Not to mention, I’m living in a penthouse where there are all these memories of adam and I. I mean, we lived there together, and now I just signed a contract to start working at his company. I mean, this whole situation is just loaded with landmines.

Rey: Yeah, that’s — that’s not easy.

Chelsea: It’s worth it, though. For connor.

Rey: I can imagine he’d love to have his parents back together.

Chelsea: Adam and I have made it clear to him that won’t be happening.

Rey: I hope that’s true. I’d like for you to be able to look back on your life now, without adam, and see how much better you are without him.

Sharon: I’m happy for you both, that you want to embark on this together. But you have to understand that the adoption process can be long and difficult.

Mariah: We are aware.

Tessa: Which is why we wanted to start investigating it sooner rather than later.

Sharon: I think that’s very wise.

Mariah: And look, we know that it’s probably gonna be harder for us, considering we’re a same-sex couple, but you know what? We’re up for any obstacles they throw at us.

Noah: Hey, guys.

Sharon: Hey.

Tessa: Hi.

Mariah: What’s going on?

Noah: Want some good news?

Sharon: Absolutely.

Noah: I have the final artwork for tessa’s album cover right here.

Tessa: Fantastic.

Sharon: That’s great.

Mariah: How did it turn out?

Noah: Brilliant.

Mariah: Oh, and you’re not biased at all?

Noah: No, no, of course not. You guys want to see it?

Tessa: Um, [Clears throat] Actually, we were just in the middle of something.

Mariah: No, no, no. Go for it. I’ll be there in a second.

Tessa: Are you sure?

Mariah: Absolutely. Go.

Tessa: Okay.

Mariah: Alright. So tell me the truth. You’re worried about this, aren’t you? How did olay top expensive creams?

Lily: You know, from the beginning, I thought that your plan was outrageous.

Billy: Unorthodox.

Lily: But I was willing to go along with it, because I do believe that it’s justice for what adam and victor did to you. And I think you have a real shot at clearing your name. I mean, I was willing to play the aggrieved girlfriend because I love you and I believe in what you’re trying to do. But then victoria, she comes waltzing in here, she makes her demands. And your plan takes on a whole new dimension, and you don’t even discuss it with me.

Billy: Lily, she knows I’m lying. She holds the cards.

Lily: She wants you to keep putting on a public display of being a relapsing addict so that she can take control of newman media.

Billy: [ Sighs ] I’m trying to make this work for everyone.

Lily: No, no, you are at her mercy. Do you really think that she’s gonna give you control of a media company after you tried to stop her wedding? After what you tried to do to her husband? I mean, do you really think that you can trust her with anything?

Ashland: So billy has been faking the whole time.

Victoria: You don’t sound so surprised.

Ashland: I’m not. I mean, it’s exactly the kind of stunt he’d try to pull. Although I have to admit there’s a certain warped elegance to the whole thing.

Victoria: [ Scoffs ] Well, that’s one way to put it.

Ashland: Although now that you’ve uncovered the truth, the element of surprise is gone, right? The game is over.

Victoria: Unless I stay quiet, let it all play out. Let adam and newman media fall into the trap. A lot of things would have to go right for that to work.

Ashland: And even if it does, we have to admit that there’s a couple of things that might be quite damaging, including the fact that the article written about me is true.

Victoria: I think I might have found a way around that.

Ashland: Oh?

Victoria: Yes. I offered to keep quiet on one condition — when billy files suit against newman media, that he goes after them, making them ripe for takeover. Just like chanccomm.

Ashland: A takeover. By newman/locke.

Victoria: Have I ever told you how sexy you are when you read my mind?

Ashland: [ Chuckles ] Wanting to best adam, okay. But do you really think it’s wise to go up against your father?

Victoria: Well, I did it once before with cyaxares. Adam and my father, they won that round, but I don’t think my father ever liked the fact that I sold off our media division to chancellor industries. And I predict that once he gets over the initial shock of it all, I think he’ll admire me for it.

Ashland: Mm. With you manipulating billy to do it. And even if he wants to go forward with his plan, why would he want to hand newman media over to us?

Victoria: Billy wants us to put him in charge.

Ashland: Well, I hope you’re not considering that, after all that billy has tried to do to hurt us and discredit me, and he hates me for wanting to go along with victor and adam’s plan.

Victoria: I know, but listen to me. Nobody knows billy better than i do, and I promise you, he’s not gonna be a problem. And just think — think about what we’re gonna get out of it.

Ashland: So keep your enemies close, and take everything.

Victoria: Precisely.

Ashland: God, I love the way your mind works. I find it incredibly attractive.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] Well, then I can’t wait till you to hear my ideas about improving corporate synergy.

Ashland: Mm, I love it when you say that. But before I get overwhelmed with my lustful thoughts, I have some good news of my own to share, some very good news.

Sharon: I’m behind your decision.

Mariah: But?

Sharon: It’s such a beautiful, hopeful thing to want to raise a child in a loving home. But the process of adoption —

Mariah: I know, it’s rough.

Sharon: It can be pretty daunting, put it that way. Sometimes things just don’t work out, and you’ve already experienced so much heartache.

Mariah: I am touched by your concern, truly. I know that you just want to protect me.

Sharon: Part of being a parent. That never goes away.

Mariah: Yeah, and I know things will be complicated and there are risks. But, I mean, that’s sort of life, isn’t it?

Sharon: It’s true.

Mariah: And as far as the obstacles, [Sighs] I mean, my motto is bring it on. That’s always been my way, and I’m really, really lucky to have a partner who is strong and independent and supportive, who is also just as scrappy as I am.

Sharon: Well, if you do decide to go through with this together, after you’ve done your research, you’re gonna need each other to lean on through all the waiting and the disappointments you’ll encounter, until you get to the other side.

Mariah: We’re ready.

Tessa: Wow, you weren’t kidding.

Noah: Oh, about being brilliant? No, no.

Tessa: Mm-hmm. I mean, I remember when you first told me about the idea. You described it to me and everything you envisioned. It’s all there.

Noah: Look what I had to work with. Everything you bring to the table — your passion, your fearlessness, how vulnerable you’re willing to be. And you put all that in your music. It’s one of the many reasons i adore you. As a friend, like a fanboy.

Mariah: Alright. The suspense is killing me. Let’s see this epic album cover.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Mariah: I don’t want to inflate your ego by telling you how talented and amazing you are.

Noah: But you’re going to anyway?

Mariah: Noah, this is truly incredible. You have done something so special, especially now that you took tessa’s enlarged eyeball out of it, like…

Noah: Yeah. Yeah. Okay, that was a joke, but thank you.

Mariah: But honestly, how hard could it have been? You have an ideal subject.

Noah: Yeah, I did.

Mariah: Alright, so, tessa, what do you think? Is it all you hoped for?

Tessa: I mean, yeah. As I told noah, I was blown away. Everything he envisioned, it’s — it’s all there.

Mariah: Okay, but I’m sure noah would want to get your unfiltered feedback, you know, about his work.

Noah: You know, there’s a step in the creative process when you spend so much time with something, you’ve put so much energy into it, your heart and soul, that you step back and you think like, “damn, I did that.” I don’t want to put tessa on the spot. I sent her an e-mail with the images attached, and I want her to live with it for a couple of days. There’s still time to change things, so… anyways, I am gonna take my fragile-yet-massive ego and go get ready for a meeting with adam. It was good seeing you two.

Mariah: I’ll see you soon. And again, fantastic work.

Noah: Thank you.

Mariah: Okay. What’s wrong? And don’t say nothing, because i can tell something is.

Tessa: I mean, I-I love — I love the album artwork. It looks amazing. It’s just that I feel — I feel kind of weird walking away from that important conversation with sharon. Do you think that she’s, like, not as excited about our decision to adopt a baby?

Chelsea: Adam is a good dad, and that’s all I can ask for, that we peacefully coexist and work together to do what’s best for our son. Adam has not always been the best role model, but he’s definitely making changes in his life.

Rey: Hmm. He certainly wants people to think so.

Chelsea: Well, there’s one thing I am certain of, and that’s that he loves his son. He’s proving it, and I’m grateful. I mean, he’s not like you, rey. He’s not constantly a good guy and always a great role model.

[ Both laugh ]

Rey: Yeah, I’d like to think that I would have been a good dad.

Chelsea: Is that off the table? Having kids?

Rey: You know, I think that time has passed for sharon and me. But I do love being a stepdad.

Chelsea: Well, faith has the best dad in the world, but she’s really lucky to have you in her life, too.

Rey: I really appreciate you saying that. Well, my order’s up.

Chelsea: So it is.

Rey: Well, if I don’t see you before then, I hope you have a happy new year.

Chelsea: You too, ray. May it be a good one for both of us.

Rey: Yeah.

Chelsea: [ Sighs ]

Nikki: To what do we owe the pleasure of this visit?

Ashland: We wanted to discuss plans for new year’s eve.

Victoria: But we also have some really good news to share, and we wanted to do it in person.

Victor: You do? Well, don’t keep us in suspense.

Ashland: I got the latest test results back, and they’re more encouraging than the last ones.

Nikki: So the treatment is working?

Ashland: Better than I ever could have hoped for. It seems to have stopped the cancer in its tracks.

Nikki: Oh, ashland, that is wonderful news. I’m so thrilled for you.

Victor: Very happy for you, ashland.

Ashland: Of course, it’s only one test result.

Victoria: Yes, but things are trending in the right direction, and that’s what counts, right?

Ashland: Exactly.

Victor: You know what that means, don’t you?

Ashland: Besides the obvious?

Victor: Well, that means you have to stop kicking back and smelling the roses.

Ashland: [ Laughs ]

Victor: It’s time to get out of the back room of newman/locke. You should put another chair into the boardroom, you know.

Ashland: Put the “power” back in “power couple.”

Victoria: That would be an answer to my prayers.

Ashland: [ Laughs ]

Adam: Well, well. Looks like the gang’s all here.

Ever notice how stiff clothes can feel rough on your skin?

Chloe: We have a lot to talk about.

Sally: We do?

Chloe: I just had an excellent meeting with chelsea about the direction we’re going to take the fashion platform in.

Sally: Great. Yeah, fill me in. I’m dying to hear.

Chloe: Well, chelsea’s triumphant return has the fashion world buzzing. I mean, who doesn’t love a good redemption story?

Sally: Right?

Chloe: We’ve been getting a ton of interview requests from all of the major trade publications wanting features. And naturally, I mean, they’re all wanting an exclusive.

Sally: Naturally.

Chloe: Anyway, it occurred to both chelsea and me that since we’re launching our own video platform, why are we giving away our biggest story? Hello?

[ Chuckles ] Earth to sally. Did you hear anything I just said?

Sally: Sure. Yeah, no, keep — keep going. I’m — I’m fascinated.

Sally: Oh, you’re just — you’re fake smiling and bobbing your head, but you’re really just tuning me out. What’s the problem? Are you feeling threatened by chelsea being your boss? Because you know it is all in writing now.

Sally: Not in the slightest.

Chloe: It’s your personal life. I know. I think I know what it is. You don’t have a date for new year’s eve. You know what? I have the perfect solution.

Sally: To what?

Chloe: Well, instead of just sitting at home, watching the ball drop, killing a bottle of wine, you’ll hang out with kevin and me.

Sally: No, chloe. I couldn’t possibly.

Chloe: Don’t worry, my mom’s gonna be watching the kids and we’re gonna have a fun night out with michael and lauren, and this will be a great opportunity for you to finally make nice with her after the whole wedding dress fiasco.

Sally: I’m sorry. I can’T.

Chloe: Of course you can. Don’t worry, kevin won’t mind.

Sally: This is really sweet of you, but I actually do have plans for that night.

Adam: Looks like I’m crashing the party. I just came by to tell you about some plans I had for newman media. Wanted to start the new year off with a bang.

Victor: [ Chuckles ] I suggest we table that conversation. Right now you join us for a drink.

Adam: Oh, no, I don’t want to intrude.

Victor: Well, we have something to celebrate.

Nikki: Yes, we just got some fabulous news. We’ll have ashland and victoria fill you in. Darling, can you help me with the champagne?

Victor: I certainly can. Okay.

Victoria: Ashland, he got his lab results back, and it appears that the treatment he received at the clinic in peru has been working.

Adam: That’s phenomenal. Very delighted for you both.

Victoria: Thank you. We’re elated about it.

[ Sighs ] Which is why it’s particularly disconcerting to see billy drinking at a bar in the middle of the day again.

Adam: Yeah, I’m sorry you had to go through that.

Victoria: Yes, well, thankfully the kids will be off to boarding school soon, so they won’t have to watch their father imploding.

Adam: It’s all too predictable.

Victoria: The way you say that, I hope that you’re not planning on exploiting this. Although I’m sure that you feel that billy has it coming after publishing that exposé on you.

Adam: I mean, billy’s not doing anything we haven’t seen him do before ad nauseum. It’s kind of grown tiresome. There’s not a whole lot to exploit.

Billy: Once victoria realized that I was faking, that was game over. Or at least it could have been. Now I’m just trying to salvage something, and this could be a win-win.

Lily: [ Scoffs ] Billy, if you believe that, you are hopelessly naive.

Billy: Come on, lily.

Lily: I cannot believe how easily you’re giving up on your plan and giving into victoria’s demands without even putting up a fight.

Billy: I’m trying to be realistic here, okay? I lost all my leverage. And let’s be honest, running a company with newman in the name, that’d be pretty satisfying, and it would drive victor and adam crazy.

Lily: Oh, okay, so now your goal is revenge.

Billy: No, I’m trying to roll with the punches.

Lily: Okay, you realize your best-case scenario here with everything working out has you working for your ex and her husband who has every reason to hold a grudge against you.

Billy: Yeah, I realize that, but I will say that we’ve all been able to raise johnny and katie together, so I think that we can do this, too. Look, victoria, she was talking tough earlier, okay? She’s trying to negotiate. I believe that she respects my business acumen.

Lily: Oh, my god, billy. She’s using you. She’s using you and you’re letting her do it. Once victoria has what she wants, she’S… okay, you know what? It doesn’t even matter. It doesn’t matter because your cover is blown with someone who has proven they cannot be trusted. You are all pawns to her — her father, her husband, her brother, you. You’re all pawns in her game to out-victor victor. And do you realize that for this to work, you now have to trick adam into doing something to allow him to get sued? And say what you want about him, but he’s not a fool. He clearly has no interest in your return-to-the-gutter act.

Billy: Tell me how you really feel.

Lily: Yeah, I will. So please tell me, what are you gonna do? Do you struggle with occasional nerve aches

Mariah: My mom is concerned, but not in the way that you’re thinking. No, she’s not freaked out or anything. She just basically said what she said before, which is adoption is gonna be challenging.

Tessa: But we’re so strong, and we’re so in love.

Mariah: And we’re scrappers, which is exactly what I told her.

Tessa: And we’ve dealt with so much. We’ve overcome so much. We can do this, mariah. We can make a family.

Noah: Yeah, I should have it to you after the first of the year. Okay, thank you. Take care.

Sharon: Don’t forget this.

Noah: Thank you. I will see you at home.

Sharon: Okay. No, wait. How did mariah and tessa like your final cover design?

Noah: Can I fill you in later? I’m late for a meeting.

Sharon: Yeah.

Noah: Alright, bye.

Rey: Hey, man.

Noah: Good to see you.

Sharon: Hey.

Rey: Hurricane noah?

Sharon: Tell me about it.

Rey: Is there a problem?

Sharon: There’s just a lot going on with the kids today.

Sally: It is nothing big or even exciting.

Chloe: Is it a date? You might as well tell me. I’m not gonna give up.

Sally: No date. But I really appreciate the offer. It was a very sweet invitation.

Chloe: Well, this is me not being sweet. Who exactly are you not going on a date with on new year’s eve?

Sally: Chloe, I’m telling you, the evening that I have to look forward to would bore you to tears.

Lily: I’m surprised you noticed.

Billy: Can we table this for now? Nothing’s gonna happen till after the new year. Can we just enjoy the holiday? Can we agree on that? Please?
