Chad: I’ll just spin it. I’ll tell shin that I thought ej was guilty and that I didn’t wanna let him get away with it. That I was serving the course of justice.

Kate: [Sighs] Shin doesn’t care about serving the course of justice, okay? He just cares about market share. And when one co-ceo is trying to send the other co-ceo up the river, well, that just looks really bad for the corporate image.

Chad: Well, I-I have to– I have to take my chances. I mean–I mean, ej’s been a real son of a bitch since you got back to town, but– but he’s my brother, and he welcomed me into the family when he didn’t have to, so I’m sorry, but I’m gonna have to, um, I’m gonna have to tell them that he didn’t do it. Tell them the truth.

[Apprehensive music]

Melinda: You’re counsel for mr. Dimera? I was under the impression that he’d be representing himself.

Belle: Oh, well, you were misinformed. About a lot of things, actually.

Melinda: This is hardly standard procedure.

Belle: Well, it is well within my client’s rights. Oh, I didn’t make it official. Mr. Dimera, would you accept my services as your counsel?

Ej: Oh, I’d be happy to.

Melinda: Well, isn’t this an interesting arrangement. One that I can’t imagine will go over well with the board, considering your new client was ousted from dimera.

Belle: Oh, melinda. I think you should be focusing on coming up with a new strategy because you’re gonna need it.

Rafe: This doesn’t make any sense. What the hell is going on here?

Shawn: Everything all right, boss?

Rafe: Not exactly.

Shawn: Now what’s got you so upset?

Rafe: I’m being set up. Someone’s got it in for me.

Gwen: Oh, for god’s sake! Oh, ava.

Ava: Hey.

Gwen: Hi.

Ava: Bad day?

Gwen: Yeah, you could say that.

Ava: Let me guess. Xander still hot on sarah’s trail?

Gwen: [Sighs] Hotter than ever. And now he’s teamed up with my little sister.

[Doorbell ringing repeatedly]

Abigail: Hold your horses, I’m coming!

Xander: Took you long enough. You have to answer the door around here?

Abigail: It happens to be harold’s morning off, and, you know, you might have called first.

Xander: I didn’t wanna waste any time after I got your message, so out with it. What’s going on?

Abigail: I may have a lead on sarah.

Steve: No, brady, I’m sorry. I don’t have any leads on kristen yet. But I’m on the case, and i should have something to report soon. Yeah, you’ll be the first to know. All right. Sweetness? Just about ready in there?

[Suspenseful music]

[Soft orchestration]

Kayla: Uh, how do I look?

[Chuckles]

Steve: You are a vision. Even as a bride of christ, you’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. Oh. But you’re still having doubts, aren’t you, baby?

Kayla: How could I not? Dressing up as a nun? It’s blasphemous, steve.

Steve: Sweetness, it’s for a noble cause. I think the big dude upstairs will forgive you. Besides, we don’t have many options. We need a way into that convent if we’re gonna find kristen. And this is it.

Xander: You have a lead on sarah? Why didn’t you just say so?

Abigail: Well, I just did.

Xander: Well, what is it?

Abigail: Well, I went to the dimera travel department to see when the jet was last used for non-dimera business.

Xander: And when was that?

Abigail: Well, it-it wasn’T.

Xander: Wait, that’s your lead? How is that a lead?

Abigail: Well, because we have more than one jet. The company keeps several older models as a part of their fleet that can be reserved for personal use, and apparently, one of them was used for non-official business around the time that sarah disappeared.

Xander: Oh, my god, was sarah on that jet? Did you–did you show the pilot a picture?

Abigail: I’m afraid that I couldn’T.

Xander: And why not?

Abigail: Because he’s gone.

Belle: [Clears throat]

Ej: Not that I don’t appreciate this, but just the other day, you went on and on about not wanting to represent me, yet here you are. What made you change your mind?

Belle: Mm, someone may have convinced me that you might be innocent.

Ej: And to whom am I indebted for rising to my defense?

Belle: Nicole walker.

Ej: Nicole stood up for me?

Belle: Yeah, but she still hates your guts, and that’s pretty much a quote.

Ej: And I don’t blame her, but I’m grateful that she convinced you to do the right thing, even though defending me will, in all probability, risk your position as general counsel at dimera.

Belle: Hmm. I can handle the board.

Ej: And what about your other concern?

Belle: Don’t worry. I can handle sami too. This is the sound of nature breathing.

Barnes: The court will now hear the case of the state versus elvis dimera. Are all parties present?

Melinda: Da melinda trask for the people, judge barnes.

Belle: Isabella brady for the defense, your honor.

Barnes: So the defendant has chosen not to represent himself?

Ej: That’s correct, your honor.

Barnes: Well, I applaud your decision. Now that we have a lawyer squared away, we can start with jury selection.

Ej: Actually, your honor…

Belle: Ej, what are you doing?

Barnes: I’ll allow it. What is it, mr. Dimera?

Ej: If it pleases the court, I would like to waive my right to a jury trial.

[Suspenseful music]

Steve: Listen, baby, if you’re still having second thoughts about this…

Kayla: No, no, it’s important, and it’s, uh, it’s for a noble cause, like you said.

Steve: Definitely.

Kayla: Yeah, and, um, and so I’m just gonna put my worries of blasphemy aside, and I’m– I’m going to impersonate a nun. And whatever it takes to find kristen, I am–I’m all in. Do you really–do you really think that kristen’s at that convent?

Steve: Well, she hid out there once before. Stands to reason she’d try it again.

Kayla: Yeah. Yeah, that makes sense.

[Apprehensive music]

Steve: Let’s get this show on the road, sister.

Xander: The pilot’s dead?

Belle: No, no, he’s not dead. He just–he quit, and apparently, not that long after the non-official flight possibly transporting sarah to god knows where.

Xander: Now, that’s not suspicious at all.

Abigail: It does seem to suggest some sort of payoff. Or that he at least knew how to get out while the getting was still good.

Xander: He? So you have a name?

Abigail: Unfortunately, that’s all I have.

Xander: Well, that’s a start. Let’s hop online and track him down.

Abigail: Oh, yeah, him and along with everybody else that’s got the same name.

Xander: Well, how do you suggest we narrow it down?

Abigail: Well, obviously, I’m gonna go back to the dimera travel department, and I’m gonna see if he left any contact information.

Xander: So why do you need me?

Abigail: I don’T.

Xander: You called me.

Abigail: To update you. I’m–it’s your big idea to come and show up here.

Xander: Fine, and I am very grateful for the opportunity, but, uh, I don’t wanna slow you down, so I’m gonna go. Please call me as soon as you learn anything, yeah?

Abigail: Yeah, I–yes. Will do.

[Scoffs]

Gwen: Of course, abigail says their looking into sarah’s disappearance has nothing to do with me. That she’s just trying to look for her long-lost cousin, but you know what, I don’t buy that for a single minute.

Ava: Mm. Little miss goody two shoes, right?

Gwen: Those are the ones that you need to look out for the most. And especially with abigail, it’s all–pfft. It’s a big act.

Ava: Really? Well, you should know.

Gwen: I do. I do know. I’ve seen her dark side. I’ve seen her vengeance. I’ve seen her cruelty. How she revels in payback.

Ava: Oh. Well, that’s something we have in common. Because I am reveling in payback, myself right now.

Shawn: All right, so both of these perps are saying that you planted evidence against them?

Rafe: So they claim.

Shawn: But I mean it’s– obviously, they’re lying, right?

Rafe: Of course they’re lying. Really, you even have to ask that? I’d never do anything like that. Even if I did, you know, in all the years in my career, I have never had one complaint against me, and now I’ve got two in the same damn day?

Shawn: So you’re sure these guys don’t know each other?

Rafe: Right now, I’m not sure of anything. You know, as far as I can tell, no, they never crossed paths on the outside, but I mean, once they’re in the system, who knows?

Shawn: Well maybe–I don’t know, maybe they ran into each other and they realized they had something in common. You know, punish you for– for whatever reason, and they, you know, decided they would, i don’t know, help each other out. Or…

Rafe: Or what?

Shawn: Or someone put them up to it. We hit the bike trails every weekend

Rafe: So you think someone put these clowns up to this?

Shawn: Well, it makes about as much sense as two perps at the exact same time claiming that you framed them.

Rafe: Yeah. Sure does.

Shawn: So can you think of anybody who has something against you? One that might, you know, wanted to get revenge?

Rafe: No. No, not off the top of my head. I mean, look, as commish, you always got the target on your back.

Shawn: That’s right. This person–I mean, this person’s gotta have a real axe to grind.

Rafe: Yeah. Sure does feel personal.

Shawn: So can you think of anybody who might have a grudge against you?

Gwen: So you plan to get revenge on rafe for sleeping with nicole?

Ava: You disapprove.

Gwen: Oh, come on, you know me better than that. I’m just very interested to hear how you’re going to do it.

Ava: Well, it’s already in motion. And let’s just put it this way: Rafe is going to find himself in a little bit of trouble at work.

Gwen: What kind of trouble?

Ava: So I, uh, have a connection with a few gentlemen who have found themselves recently wrongly incarcerated, and I may have convinced them to file a report saying that a certain commissioner planted evidence on them.

Gwen: Whoa.

[Laughs] I mean, that’s a–that’s a fairly serious crime, is it not?

Ava: You bet your ass it is. Cops go to jail for that.

Gwen: So you want to send the man that you say that you love to prison?

Ava: Okay, look. This is just between us, okay? I need you to keep your mouth shut about it.

Xander: Hello, ladies. What does gwen need to keep her mouth shut about?

Abigail: Hello.

Chad: Hey! Hey, what are you doing here?

Abigail: I just stopped by travel to, uh, see what they got going on, but, uh, departmental meeting, so it’s a ghost town.

Chad: Ah, sounds like the new editor in chief at “the spectator” is hard on the trail for sarah horton.

Abigail: Doing my damndest. It’s mostly for aunt maggie.

Chad: Yeah.

Abigail: So you wouldn’t happen to have any information about one of dimera’s old pilots, would you? Guy named ned grainger?

Chad: Uh, ned. Yeah, he was here for years until last spring.

Abigail: Do you know why he left?

Chad: I don’t, but it was pretty sudden if i remember correctly.

Abigail: I don’t suppose you’d happen to have any of his contact information, would you?

Chad: I do not. Yeah, but now that I think of it, it was a headache for payroll. Grainger’s last check was returned, and they were never able to track him down.

Abigail: Well, damn.

Chad: Yeah. Why, what’s going on?

[Knock at door]

Steve: Excuse me. Mother superior?

Mother superior: Good evening, father, sister. What can I do for you?

Steve: Well, reverend mother, we’re in need of assistance, and we’re hoping you can help us.

I may have moderate to

severe rheumatoid arthritis.

Mother superior: Well, of course, I’d be happy to help in any way I can. You are visiting here, I assume?

Steve: Yes, yes, we are.

Mother superior: Would you like some water?

Steve: No, thank you. You see, sister mary elizabeth has been part of an exchange program with a small parish in the tuscan countryside. Very small, in fact, and I’m afraid their convent was lost in a fire.

Mother superior: Well, how dreadful. Was anyone hurt?

Steve: No, no, no, thank god. But there is a matter of lodging. Everyone else besides the sister has been relocated to convents temporarily.

Mother superior: I see.

Steve: And I am scheduled to fly back to the states in just a few days, so I would hate for sister mary elizabeth to be forced to cut her mission short. So I’m hoping and praying that you can take her in.

Gwen: Hi, I um, uh, thought you were on your way to go and see abigail.

Xander: I already did.

Gwen: Oh. Right, well. Okay, you know ava, don’t you?

Xander: In a way.

Ava: Unfortunately, when we knew each other, I was a bit worse for wear.

Xander: In my former life as a caregiver. But don’t worry, those days of altruism are long behind me. So what exactly were you two discussing that gwen needs to keep her mouth shut about?

Ava: Oh. Rafe’s surprise party. His birthday is in a few weeks, and I am getting a jump-start on planning, so I was swearing gwen here to secrecy.

Gwen: Trust me. My lips are sealed.

Ava: Thank you. You too. All right, need to get out of here, I got a lot of things to do, so I will see you later.

Gwen: Good luck with the party.

Xander: That was strange.

Gwen: What was?

Xander: You two. Chatting away? How do you even know each other?

Chad: Hey, I’m sorry I couldn’t be more help, but I really gotta go. I’m due in court.

Abigail: Oh, ej’s trial. Yeah.

Chad: Yeah, I’m the first witness, so I don’t wanna be late.

Abigail: Look at you all excited to bury your brother.

Chad: Yeah, no. I’m starting to think that he might be, uh, might be innocent.

Abigail: Really? You were ready to burn him at the stake, what happened?

Chad: I–look, ej’s been an ass. The whole thing with johnny’s movie, coming onto you to try to get under my skin, trying to undermine me here at dimera. I was–I was angry, but I may have overreacted a bit. Everything ej’s pulled, he doesn’t deserve to go to prison.

Abigail: You found proof that he masterminded sami’s kidnapping. He deserves to go to prison for that, and he will. After you testify.

Chad: Not necessarily.

Barnes: Mr. Dimera, did I hear you correctly? You waive your right to a jury trial?

Ej: I do, your honor.

Belle: Judge barnes, may I have a moment to confer with my client?

Barnes: It would certainly help if the defendant and his counsel were on the same page, so we’ll take a five minute recess. Not a minute longer.

[Gavel bangs]

Belle: What the hell are you doing? I am the attorney; you are the client, which means you sit there and shut up and let me do my job.

Ej: I’m just saving us a lot of time.

Belle: By opting out of a jury trial?

Ej: I’d rather take my chances with the judge.

Belle: Ej, you are an attorney; you know full well it is harder to sway a judge than a jury!

Ej: Considering I’m innocent, I shouldn’t have to sway anyone. Besides, I think he’ll be fair.

Belle: Really? Why?

Ej: I’m feeling lucky, i guess, and again, I’m innocent, so how could I lose?

Belle: What is going on here, ej?

Ej: What’s the big mystery? I trust the system, and I’m willing to let it work.

Belle: Oh, please. You don’t trust anyone or anything. So what is it, you think that you’re gonna get to the judge? Or have you already?

Ej: I just think barnes seems like a reasonable person. And given the details of this case, I certainly trust someone who has passed the bar than the hoi-polloi of this town who would love nothing more than to bring down a one-percenter.

Belle: Oh, god, do you know how arrogant you sound?

Ej: I’m simply speaking the truth.

Belle: Okay, well, then do us all a favor and stop speaking. Okay, we are gonna run this defense my way, or I’m out.

Ej: I am very grateful to have you on my side, belle. So I will leave my fate in your very capable hands.

Abigail: So you’re not necessarily gonna testify about what you know? I don’t get it.

Chad: I’m gonna give my testimony, and it will be up to the courts to decide what to do with him.

Abigail: But that’s an obvious decision–I mean, you have hard evidence that ej is guilty as charged, so I mean, when the court hears that– oh, my god. Don’t tell me you are thinking about lying on the stand.

Chad: I didn’t say that.

Abigail: But you are thinking about it. Oh, my god, chad, no. I mean…

[Sighs] Whatever twisted loyalty dimera thing you feel like you have with your brother, you cannot possibly be thinking about perjuring yourself.

Chad: Look, I’m well aware of my legal obligations. I have to go.

Abigail: [Sighs] I’m coming with you.

Chad: I thought you were tracking down information on grainger.

Abigail: I gave him a message to get back to me. I can’t do anything till they respond.

Chad: You don’t have to go just for me.

Abigail: I’m not. Reporter I assigned to the trial is sick, so I’m covering it for “the spectator.”

[Sighs]

Gwen: How do I know ava? Um, through her son, charlie.

Xander: Charlie dale? My former intern who turned out to be a rapist?

Gwen: Yeah. Yes, that-that charlie. After he died, um, I wanted to offer ava my condolences. It was such a horrible tragedy, after all.

Xander: Did you know him?

Gwen: No, not well, um. We sort of just bumped into each other once or twice. Ended up sharing sob stories. Turns out we both know what it feels like to be an outcast. We sort of bonded, really.

Xander: Oh, so you bonded with a psychopath.

Gwen: Look, I’m not defending what charlie did, I’m just saying that I–well, I saw that he had this other side to him. He just seemed lost. Like he was sensitive, and i felt that ava deserved to know that her son wasn’t just some soulless monster. You know what I mean?

Shawn: Well? Someone come to mind?

Rafe: [Sighs] Okay, this is gonna sound weird, but there’s, uh, there’s this stuffed bear that nicole and i kinda shared custody of.

Shawn: Duke?

Rafe: You’ve met?

Shawn: Well, I-I might’ve, you know, caught a couple of the hand-offs, so.

Rafe: Right, okay. Well, um, yeah, nicole found him on her desk without a head.

Shawn: What? Oh, poor guy.

Rafe: She was totally upset, which, uh, obviously, was the intention, and, you know, the grudge may have been against nicole, but since, you know, I kinda owned duke as well…

Shawn: Well, I mean, it’s worth looking into.

Rafe: Yeah.

Ava: Hi.

Rafe: Hey.

Ava: Hope I’m not interrupting.

Steve: So reverend mother, may we impose on your generosity and ask you to provide a room for sister mary elizabeth?

Mother superior: We’d take in all god’s creatures if we could. In fact, we actually have had several guests staying with us these past few months.

Steve: You don’t say?

Mother superior: And it would certainly be a shame for your– for your mission to be cut short.

Kayla: Well, completing this mission would mean the world to me, mother superior.

Mother superior: Such dedication. Oh, of course, the sister and i will do everything possible to find you a place. I just need to speak with them first. May I get back to you?

Steve: We’d be so grateful.

Kayla: Yes.

Steve: You can reach me at this number.

Mother superior: I’ll call you as soon as I have an answer. God bless you, sister. And you, father…?

Steve: Nichols.

Mother superior: Oh, father nichols.

Steve: Right.

Kayla: Thank you.

Steve: Good night.

[Pensive music]

[Knock at door]

Mother superior: Enter.

Kristen: Excuse me, mother superior. I just saw your visitors leave. May I ask who they were? My plaque psoriasis…

Mother superior: Father nichols was hoping we could take in sister mary elizabeth. I told him I’d have to talk to the sisters, as is our practice, but I do hope we can give him some good news. After all, we do try to find a place for everyone, as we did for you.

Kristen: Yes, and I am so grateful, especially since you’re allowing me to wear this habit, even though I don’t deserve it, given that I’m not one of the sisters.

Mother superior: Well, we do care about you, dear. Even though we would have loved if we’d brought you back in the fold, we understand that your life took you in another direction.

Kristen: Yes, yes, it did. I am–I deeply appreciate you letting me lie low here. I mean, wearing this habit, it makes it less conspicuous.

Mother superior: I understand, and we will always do our best to protect you.

Kristen: Means so much to me.

Mother superior: Well, that pile of papers will still be waiting for me in the morning, so…

[Both laugh] So I think I’ll retire for the evening.

Kristen: Uh, mother, would you mind if I use phone?

Mother superior: Oh. Help yourself, dear. Good night.

Kristen: Good night.

Steve: Well, that went well.

Kayla: I think it did. Don’t you?

Steve: Well, yes.

Kayla: Yeah.

Steve: You were an awesome nun, sweetness.

Kayla: Oh, I hardly said a word.

Steve: Oh, yeah, but your demeanor was right on target.

Kayla: Yeah?

Steve: Yeah, and i appreciated how deferential you were to father nichols.

Kayla: Oh, really? Something you’re not used to.

Steve: No, it’s new. I-I kinda liked it. Change of pace.

Kayla: Mm. Well, so what now?

Steve: Now it’s pretty much a waiting game.

Kayla: That’s kinda how it is in pi, right?

Steve: Yeah, yeah, usually.

Kayla: Yeah.

Steve: But, uh, it’s not usually in a room this nice. With a partner as beautiful as you.

Kayla: Ah. But not deferential.

Steve: No?

Steve: [Sighs] Well, truth is, I like it better when you don’t defer.

Shawn: I’m gonna get some coffee.

Rafe: Ava.

Ava: Yeah.

Rafe: What are you doing here?

Ava: Well, I just thought I’d bring you some food from the bistro. But if you’re busy…

Rafe: Yeah, yeah, actually, yeah, I’m kinda in the middle of something that’s demanding my attention.

Ava: Mm, big case?

Rafe: Yeah.

Ava: Oh.

[Chuckles]

Rafe: Can’t really get into it right now.

Ava: Got it.

Rafe: Yeah.

Ava: Okay, so why don’t i just go drop this off in your office for later? I mean, if that’s okay.

Rafe: Okay.

Ava: Yeah?

Rafe: Sounds great. Thank you.

Ava: Mm-hmm.

[Chuckles] Bye, shawn.

Shawn: Bye. Everything all right?

Rafe: I don’t know.

Shawn: What you thinking?

Rafe: I could be way off-base here, but, uh, I’ve got the feeling that ava is involved in this.

[Suspenseful music]

Ava: Ah, rafe. You hypocrite. Look at you, showing the world what a devoted boyfriend you are while all the time, you are just having sex with nicole on the damn conference table. I thought rafe was one of the good guys, that I had to be a better person for him. Thought nicole was my friend. But she’s just a two-faced whore. They completely humiliated me. I’ll tell you this, pardner. Oh, they are not gonna get away with it. Oh, I hope it was worth it, rafael, ’cause you’re gonna pay for it now.

[Cell phone ringing] Ava vitali.

Kristen: This is kristen dimera. Ava, damn it! Did you sic your little friend patch on me?

Barnes: Ms. Brady, the five minutes are up. So if you and your client are done conferring, I’d like to begin this trial.

Belle: Your honor, I, um, would like to ask for more time.

Melinda: More time? That’s unbelievable!

Belle: My client deserves the best defense I can provide, and I just got the case this morning.

Melinda: Your honor, this is outrageous.

Belle: All I am asking is that we adjourn for the day and begin calling witnesses tomorrow.

Melinda: Judge barnes, mr. Dimera is obviously very pleased with his counsel’s confidence, and he’s clearly waived his rights to a jury trial, so I see no reason whatsoever to delay these proceedings.

Barnes: I’m inclined to agree. Ms. Trask, you may call your first witness.

Belle: Her first witness isn’t even here, your honor.

Melinda: The prosecution calls chad dimera to the stand.

[Tense music]

Get ready. It’s time for

the savings event of the year.

Barnes: Mr. Dimera, nice of you to join us.

Chad: I’m, uh, I’m sorry I’m late, your honor.

Ej: If it isn’t judas himself. Do you see that? My own brother has come to bury me.

Abigail: You ready?

Chad: As I’ll ever be. Uh, there’s something I want you to know before I testify–

[Gavel bangs]

Barnes: Mr. Dimera, the court is waiting. If you would take the stand, please?

[Suspenseful music]

Kayla: I-I can’t– I can’t do this.

Steve: What’s wrong?

Kayla: I just–I just can’t– I just can’t be kissing you in a nun’s outfit. It’s sacrilege!

Steve: Oh, come on! If we were a real priest and nun, I would understand, but come on. Come here. Come on, baby.

Kayla: Mm, ugh.

Steve: Not happening?

Kayla: It’s just– this is weird.

Steve: [Sighs] Okay. Not that I expect you to defer to me on this, but is there any reason you can’t go and get into something more comfortable? Doesn’t make you feel ke you’re being blasphemous and sacrilegious, hmm?

Kayla: I think I could manage that.

Steve: Okay.

Kayla: And it’d be good, too, because then I wouldn’t have to do a whole slew of hail marys or anything like that for kissing in a nun’s outfit.

Steve: Yeah, yeah.

Both: Okay.

Kayla: I’ll be right back. Okay.

Ava: Kristen, what are you talking about? Of course I didn’t sic steve on you.

Kristen: Then why did he and kayla show up here tonight?

Ava: Where’s here?

Kristen: [Groans] It doesn’t matter. Just answer the question.

Ava: Well, I-I-I don’t know. All right? Although…

Kristen: What?

Ava: Well, I know that xander wanted to hire steve to find sarah horton. I thought he turned him down, but I don’t know, maybe he took the case after all.

Kristen: Sarah horton? Damn it. It’s the last thing I need right now is that little caper coming to haunt me. Is there anything else?

Ava: Nothing. Except that gwen is desperate to get xander off sarah’s trail. She’s convinced that if he finds his ex, that he’s gonna leave her.

Kristen: Yeah. I know exactly how that feels.

Xander: Well, no matter my feelings about charlie, it was very kind of you to offer your condolences to ava.

Gwen: Well, she lost a child. I know what that feels like.

Rafe: No, no, no, that’s all it is, it’s just, yeah. We’re just friends. Just, uh, ava can get worked up.

Shawn: Vitalis tend to do that.

Rafe: Yeah, and I also made the mistake of accusing her of killing duke.

Rafe: Not well, no. She was very upset and insisted I apologize, and then I felt like a jerk for, uh, having accused her of that.

Shawn: So now you’re circling back around?

Rafe: Yeah, I don’t know. I don’t–you know, maybe it’s just my imagination running wild, but..

[Sighs] You know, it–maybe ava did tear the head off of duke, you know? But for her to send those perps after me? I mean, she could ruin my entire career.

[Dramatic music]

Belle: Hey. Did you get those contracts I left at your place last night?

Chad: I did.

Belle: Great.

Chad: Signed and initialed.

Belle: Thank you. And I’m glad I caught you before ej’s trial. You’re going, right?

Chad: I have to. I’m a witness for the prosecution.

Ava: Nicole.

Nicole: Oh, uh, hi.

Ava: Hey. Well, what a surprise. You know, rafe and I, we were just going in for some breakfast. Why don’t you join us?

Nicole: I would love to, except I’m running late. I was just gonna grab something from sweet bits. So maybe another time, okay?

Ava: Okay, that was a little odd, don’t you think?

Rafe: Hm? What do you mean?

Ava: Well, I could have sworn she was going into the brady pub and… you don’t think she’s avoiding us, do you?

[Dramatic music]

Melinda: Oh, look who’s here.

Tripp: Hey, melinda.

Melinda: Sorry to tell you, looks like you wasted a trip, tripp.

Tripp: Ha. Yeah. It’s weird, they should have opened, like, half an hour ago.

Melinda: Yeah, I know when they should have opened. I also know that I just came all the way across town just to cool my heels for the last 20 minutes.

Tripp: Well, sorry.

Melinda: It’s not your fault. Adequate baked goods. Completely unprofessional management.

Tripp: Hey, come on. Don’t– don’t post that, okay?

Melinda: Why shouldn’t I?

Tripp: Well, for one, it’s not true. And mainly, it’s not fair. You have no idea why they’re late.

Melinda: And you do?

Tripp: Yeah, kinda. And, look, I’m telling you, this morning… chanel doesn’t need any more grief, okay?

[Tense music]

Allie: Oh, my god. Last night, that wasn’t– that wasn’t a dream? We…

Chanel: Yeah. We did.

[Soft orchestration]

Chanel: You’re freaking out, aren’t you?

Allie: No.

Chanel: You’re playing with your hair. You only do that when you’re freaking out. Horton. What’s going on? Talk to me. Whatever it is, just say it. I know last night was your first time with another girl.

Allie: Yeah. Yeah, it was.

Chanel: And you’re weirded out, aren’t you?

Allie: No. No, not really. Being with you last night, it felt…natural.

Chanel: Well… it did for me too. But I want you to know that what happened last night, it wasn’t planned. When I asked you to stay, I did not intend for that to happen.

Allie: I know. But it did. We…made love, and it was… in the moment, it was so wonderful.

[Sighs] But… this morning, I just– I can’t help thinking about–

Johnny: You got me. Sometimes I talk to nonno. Crazy, right?

Ej: [Chuckles] Only if you hear him answer back. Telling him about last night, were you?

Ej: Oh, you know, dumping your new bride in front of a room full of people including her own mother.

Johnny: You think I was… indiscrete?

Ej: Indiscrete, melodramatic, self-indulgent. That would be your mother in you.

Johnny: Might have been a little melodramatic, but effective. I just–I hate those long, drawn-out post-mortems. “It’s not you, it’s me.”

Ej: Effective, calculated, and although there were moments where you did seem genuinely contrite… it was still very cruel.

Johnny: And that would be my father in me.

Ej: Touché.

Johnny: Hey, come on. This is your “I told you so” moment. You should be relishing. Your humbled son coming to you saying, “oh, father, I was wrong. You were right. If only I’d listened to you the whole time.”

Ej: Because you never listen to anyone.

Johnny: I never used to, I admit. But… upon reflection, I have come to see that that was immature. Downright juvenile.

Ej: Mm. Not buying it.

Johnny: Oh, no? Well, I’m glad you’re sitting down then, because I’m about to do a complete 180. You weren’t just right about chanel. You… you were right about me.

Ej: Really?

Johnny: Really. I’ve been running from my legacy. I was just telling nonno right before you walked in what I’m about to tell you now. My future, my place in this world, is not in hollywood, it’s here… at dimera.

Belle: I knew you and ej weren’t getting along, but to testify against him? That’S…pretty harsh, don’t you think?

Chad: I don’t really have a choice. I’m the one that found the payments made to the goons who were guarding sami, so…

Belle: Well, yeah, but according to ej, those payments were planted. Someone intended them to be found.

Chad: Yeah. Of course ej’s gonna say that.

Belle: Okay. So you’re saying that you think not only did he make the payments, but he did it with corporate money and then recorded it?

Chad: Wouldn’t be the first time his arrogance trumped his common sense.

Belle: Well, I’m sure that’s exactly the case that melinda trask will make.

[Clears throat]

Chad: Uh, so let me ask you this. If he is convicted, what kind of sentence do you think he’s gonna get?

Belle: I don’t know. Maybe eight to ten?

Chad: Eight to ten years?

Belle: Yeah. It’s a felony offense.

Chad: I just thought it would be less than that.

Belle: Really? I mean, he had his wife kidnapped and held her in isolation so she didn’t know where she was or what was gonna happen to her. God, if you ask me, if ej did do it, he deserves that and a lot more. Woman: I have moderate to severe plaque psoriasis.

Ava: I mean, come on. You must have seen that. I mean, nicole was headed for the door until she saw us. How lame was her excuse? It’s not even 9:00, I– how could she be running late?

Rafe: Okay, ava. Maybe she didn’t have time for breakfast. Maybe she was just, I don’t– getting something to go.

Ava: Yeah, from here. But then she decided to go to sweet bits. It’s like she can’t be in the same room with you. For my sake. And I don’t know. I mean, how many times have i told her it’s okay? I know the two of you are friends.

Rafe: Ava. I think you’re making too much of this, okay?

Ava: Am I?

Rafe: Mm.

Ava: Because sometimes I feel like… I feel like she just sees me as some overly possessive nutjob.

Chad: No. She does not see you that way.

Ava: Yeah, well, I’m not so sure.

[Sighs] Which means that we both need to work harder at making her feel comfortable around us. I mean, the two of you have gone above and beyond to make sure that I know how much you care about me. So… I don’t think either one of you needs to suffer any longer.

[Emotional country music]

[Door opens]

Belle: Hey.

Nicole: Hey.

Belle: All right, I got chad’s signature. I just need yours. Oh, you’re reading about ej’s trial, huh?

Nicole: I just can’t stop thinking that ej should not be representing himself.

Belle: [Laughs] I think he’s having the same realization. Last night he asked me to represent him.

Nicole: Are you going to?

Belle: No. No. I turned him down.

Nicole: Why?

Belle: Well, I work for dimera, so it would be a professional conflict of interest. Not to mention the personal one.

Nicole: Meaning sami would lose her mind if you took his case.

Belle: Exactly.

Nicole: [Laughs] Seems to me like a really good reason to do it.

Ej: Damn it, johnny, would you sit down? I feel like there’s a vulture circling overhead.

Johnny: [Chuckles] Sorry. Aren’t you gonna eat anything?

Ej: It’s like my mother’s still here. “Aren’t you gonna eat anything?”

[Sighs] No, I’m the one who’s sorry.

[Clears throat] Not in a great mood this morning.

Johnny: It’s okay. I get it. You’re about to stand trial for kidnapping. And that’s the morning that your son who’s been acting like kind of a jerk the last year or so decides to tell you that he is a changed man, that he’s seen the light.

Ej: Don’t say you were acting like a jerk.

Johnny: You don’t think I was?

Ej: Of course you were. But don’t admit it.

Johnny: Right. An apology is an admission of guilt. Learned that one on nonno’s knee.

Ej: So why the change in heart? What happened to your dream of becoming the next fellini?

Johnny: I just… I decided that I… didn’t wanna make movies about other people. I wanted to be the star of my own movie. I also realized that I still have a lot to learn from… you.

Ej: Well, as swell as that is to hear, your timing’s unfortunate. If the da has her way, you’ll be visiting me in statesville.

Johnny: But wouldn’t it be nice to have someone looking after your interests at dimera?

Ej: Such filial devotion.

Johnny: Okay. I’ve also realized that my interests are very closely tied with your interests. “Oh, daddy, I wanna be just like you when I grow up.”

[Both chuckle]

Ej: So tell me, is that why you offloaded the missus last night?

Ej: To do what I wanna do, I need to be… unencumbered.

Ej: And so to hell with chanel?

Johnny: I do feel for her. How will she ever find someone to take my place?

[Phone ringing]

Allie: What do I do?

Chanel: Well, answer it. You don’t want him get worried.

Allie: Okay. Hi, tripp.

Tripp: Hey. I stopped by the bakery to see you, but it’s closed.

Allie: Yeah. Um, I knew chanel was not gonna be in any shape to work today, and I just–I didn’t feel like running things by myself. It was kind of a long night.

Tripp: Yeah, I can imagine. Well, good thing for chanel that she had you. I imagine it was pretty intense.

Allie: Yeah. Yeah, it was.

Tripp: So where are you now?

Allie: Um, I’m home.

Tripp: Great. I have some time before work. I’ll come right over and see you.

Allie: Actually, I, um– I’m running out the door ’cause I’m gonna go check on chanel. I just wanna, you know, make sure she’s okay.

Tripp: Oh, uh, okay. That’s really nice of you. Well, please tell her how sorry I am about what your jerk of a brother did.

Allie: Yeah, I will.

Tripp: No, I’m sorry. That just slipped out.

Allie: No, I understand.

Tripp: It must be kinda hard not to say, “I told you so” to chanel, you know? I mean, it’s not like you didn’t warn her about him.

Allie: Um, tripp, I have to go.

Tripp: Right. Sorry. I’ll stop by, though, after my shift.

Allie: Great. I’ll see you then.

Tripp: I love you.

Allie: I… love you too.

[Sighs]

Chanel: What did he– was he suspicious?

Allie: No. Not at all. He was completely understanding which just makes it clearer that I am the worst person on the planet.

Chanel: You’re being too hard on yourself.

Allie: I cheated on my boyfriend.

Chanel: Well… I cheated on my husband. Not that he gives a damn.

Allie: And now I’m lying to him. I feel sick.

Chanel: I’m sorry.

Allie: I know what i have to do. I have to tell him the truth.

Ava: Hey, stranger.

Tripp: Hey, mom.

Ava: Oh. Now that you are a full-fledged doctor, I feel like I never get to see you anymore.

Tripp: I am putting in a lot of hours.

Ava: You busy right now?

Tripp: No.

Ava: Great. I’m gonna go to sweet bits, get you a coffee and one of chanel’s muffins.

Tripp: Actually, the bakery is closed today.

Ava: Really? Where’s allie?

Tripp: She’s got her hands full with chanel.

Johnny: So honestly, how do you think the trial’s gonna go?

Ej: [Grunts] To my mind, they don’t have much of a case. And the way I live my life, I’ve built up an enormous amount of goodwill with the citizens of salem.

Johnny: A real pillar of the community. Now, do you wanna level with me?

Ej: [Sighs] It’s bad. Trask hates kristen with the heat of a thousand suns, and kristen made her look like a fool. She wants me to pay for my sister’s sins.

Johnny: And putting away a dimera wouldn’t do her political career any harm.

Ej: Exactly. And my dear brother chad will do anything and everything to help her achieve that end. Would you please stop fiddling with that? Put it down.

Johnny: Sorry. I was just thinking about nonno. Chess, strategy, the move after the next move.

Ej: My god. You’re so full of dimera this morning, aren’t you?

Johnny: I am. And I’m thinking if you do go to prison, I am the only one left to get you out. Deal with fredo– I mean chad. And make damn sure that dimera enterprises has a aaa buy rating by the time you get out and I hand you back the reins.

Ej: Quite an agenda. And how do you propose to be able to do all that?

Johnny: Well, I haven’t worked out all the details yet. But I know where it starts. You need to sign all your shares over to me.

Belle: I wouldn’t take ej’s case just to spite my sister.

Nicole: Okay. Then how about a more noble motivation? How about stopping an innocent man from being railroaded?

Belle: You think ej is innocent?

Nicole: I know he is.

Belle: Why, because he’s such a good guy?

Nicole: Oh, god, no. I don’t think–

[Sighs] Look, I know that ej is more than capable of kidnapping sami. And I also know that if he had, he would have never let sami escape. And he sure as hell wouldn’t have left that paper trail at dimera enterprises.

Belle: You really believe that, don’t you?

Nicole: I do. And this is coming from a woman who really freakin’ hates his guts right now.

Belle: Why?

Nicole: Because he dropped me like a hot potato for sami and didn’t have the guts to tell me. And I had to hear it from her.

Belle: [Laughs] And I’m sure sami broke the news with grace and tact.

Nicole: She was insufferable. Ej knew that she would tell me and that she would rub my nose in it.

Belle: Wait, so you think ej planned that?

Nicole: I do. And being the kinda gal I am, I want ej to pay for what he did to me. But he didn’t kidnap sami and he shouldn’t have to pay for that.

Kate: Good morning, hamlet. Something is rotten in the state of dimera?

Chad: You know there is.

Kate: No, I don’t know that. Ej may be facing trial for something he might not have done, but in the history of dimera family business, that’s like pilfering office supplies.

Chad: We both know he didn’t do it and that I’m the primary reason he was charged with it.

Kate: Yes, well, I suggest you wait and see if he’s convicted before you don your sackcloth and your ashes.

Chad: Oh, he’s gonna be convicted. For one thing, he’s defending himself like A… like an idiot. Just now belle told me that– that he could get eight to ten years.

Kate: What’s the sudden attack of conscience? You were totally fine with him taking the fall.

Chad: Well, I thought I was. You know, I figured in my place, ej would do the same thing.

Kate: Yes, he wouldn’t think twice about it.

Chad: Right. But the thing is if I do what ej would do, then– then I’m just like him. And I can’t let that happen.

Kate: Oh, my god. What are you saying?

Chad: That maybe I should tell him that it was lucas that really kidnapped sami.

Kate: Oh, my god. My plaque psoriasis…

Chanel: [Sighs] Okay, you need to calm down and think about this. Are you sure telling tripp what happened is a good idea?

Allie: Well, it’s the right thing to do.

Chanel: I don’t buy that. You tell tripp what happened and one, you really, really hurt a great guy, and two, you could blow what the two of you have out of the water.

Allie: But I’m lying to him.

Chanel: No, you’re protecting him. Look. What happened between us last night, it was a one-time thing. And it was special. You were there when i needed you. But you still love tripp.

Allie: Yeah, I do.

Chanel: And… and don’t you dare laugh– I still love johnny.

Allie: Even after what he did to you?

Chanel: That was not the johnny I know.

Allie: Well, it’s sure as hell the johnny I know.

Chanel: Okay, look, right now we just need to focus on you and tripp. And I really, really don’t want last night to mess that up.

Allie: Well, he could– he could forgive me.

Or he could say “deuces” and kick your ass to the curb. Look, for god sakes, horton, just keep your mouth shut. For both your sakes.

Allie: Like my mom did? She didn’t tell ej when she was with my dad, and by the time she did, it was way worse then if she had just been honest from the start. Okay, no. No, I have to tell tripp. I don’t have a choice.

Ava: Wow, poor chanel. You know, I’m a vitali and i even think the dimera’s are cruel bastards.

Tripp: Yeah, and allie agrees with you. She’s been trying for months to get chanel away from johnny.

Ava: Really?

Tripp: Yeah. At least allie was there last night. I mean, she’s the one who got chanel home. And I just talked to her now and she’s on her way over there to see how she’s doing this morning.

Ava: Hmm. What a good friend.

Tripp: Ma.

Ava: What? You’re the one who told me there was a bit of sappho in that relationship.

Tripp: Okay, note to self: Never tell you anything ever again.

Nicole: You don’t think jason said what the highest bidder told him to say? Come on, the giant sleuth that cracked the case was chad? The little brother, the co-ceo, that ej effectively neutered? Oh, I’m sorry, marginalized.

Belle: Wait, so you think chad is setting him up? I’m not sure it was him, but I am sure someone’s orchestrating things to frame ej. And I’m also sure that if ej’s not careful, it’s gonna work.

Kate: You knew that I had qualms about this from the very beginning and you convinced me to keep quiet.

Chad: Well, I was angry at him.

Kate: Of course you were angry at him. He’s been trying to stab you in the back from day one. I mean, worming his way into giovanni’s movies so he could have sex scenes with abigail just trying to get under your skin.

Chad: Right, which is why i had no problem getting him fired. But letting him rot in prison for something he didn’t do? That’s too much.

Kate: If you tell the truth, lucas is going to be in that prison.

Chad: The difference is lucas actually committed the crime, so maybe he’s the one that should pay for it.

Tripp: We are still talking about allie and chanel, right?

Ava: Of course.

Tripp: It just seemed to me that little tirade sounded pretty personal. Is everything okay with you and rafe?

Ava: Yeah. Perfect. And you know what, it is personal. Because you are my son and i don’t want anyone hurting you.

Tripp: You don’t have to worry about me, mom. Chanel is not a threat. Allie and I are in a– we’re in a really good place.

Chanel: Okay, my mom is gone so the coast is clear.

Allie: Okay. But before I go, I just wanna make sure… are you okay?

Chanel: No. But I will be. Mostly thanks to you. It’s just…

Allie: What?

Chanel: I told you that I’m worried that what happened last night might screw things up with you and tripp. But I’m also worried about us.

Allie: Why?

Chanel: Because… I already lost my husband and… I–I don’t know what I’d do if I lost my best friend too.

Allie: Never. Never. You are never going to lose me. Okay? I’ll see you later, okay?

Chanel: Yeah.

Allie: Okay.

Chanel: Bye, horton.

[Emotional music]

Ej: You want me to sign over my shares to you?

Jonny: Dad, if you go to prison, the second you enter that cell, chad’s going into action. I’m gonna need the power to vote your shares in order to fend him off.

Ej: You already have shares of your own. And on your last birthday, you became old enough to vote on the board, so–

Johnny: No, but that’s not enough to counteract any moves chad might make. And tell me you don’t believe uncle tony and kate are gonna angling for all they can get.

Ej: When I gave your mother power of attorney, she used it to screw me and take over dimera.

Johnny: Trust me. I will look out for you and sydney. And I will make sure that when you’re out you can pick right back up where you left off.

Ej: Well, you’re right about chad and the others. But I–I–

Johnny: Dad. I know. I’m asking you to have faith in me and I also know that I haven’t done much lately to inspire that faith. But bottom line, I’m what you’ve got.

[Tense music]

Ej: Okay, fine. I’ll sign them over temporarily. And only if I actually go to prison.

Johnny: Of course, of course. And I’m hoping that this entire conversation is moot, that you’ll be cleared of all the charges. But we have to be prepared for the worst.

Ej: No, you’re right.

[Sighs] Okay, I’ll do it.

Johnny: Dad, I promise… you won’t regret this.

Kate: I know what lucas did was misguided, but you can’t say anything.

Chad: Misguided? He locked up sami for three months. Now she’s travelling the world with her kidnapper. I think that deserves a word a little stronger than “misguided.” Criminal? Sociopathic?

Kate: Okay, just stop. All right, stop. You said yourself that lucas wasn’t dangerous. He loves sami. He’s trying to protect her. He would never hurt her. But if ej finds out, he’ll kill him. And then he’ll go to jail anyway.

Chad: Okay, you know what? That is really twisted logic even for you, kate.

Kate: Could you… could you just stop and hear me? You know what ej will do if he finds out. Philip is missing. Philip is probably dead. So if I lose lucas too, I’m sorry, but that’s on your head.

Chad: That’s not fair.

Kate: I’m fighting for my son’s life here.

Chad: Okay. I’ll say that I planted the evidence. And I’ll keep lucas out of it.

Kate: You’re gonna lose your job if you do that.

Chad: Maybe I should. Maybe that’s the only way I can keep myself from turning into ej. Into father.

Kate: [Sighs]

Chad: I have to do what’s right, kate.

Kate: Even if you lose everything? Woman: I have moderate to severe plaque psoriasis.

Rafe: This is insane. I didn’t plant evidence on this guy. I didn’t need to. One more conviction, he goes away for 30 years. Listen, this guy would say or do anything to get out from under this. By the way, it’s not a new story, okay? It’s been done time and time again.

Melinda: It’s funny you should say that, because he’s not the only one making this particular complaint against you. This guy says the same thing.

Rafe: What?

Melinda: These are very serious allegations, commissioner. I had no choice but to investigate.

Rafe: “Had”?

Melinda: I already forwarded the matter to internal affairs. For your sake, I hope you’re telling the truth.

Ava: Hey.

Nicole: What are you doing here?

Ava: Well, you said you were gonna get something from the bakery, but I found out that it was closed today, so… figured you might be hungry.

Ava: Full disclosure, though, I did have ulterior motives. I think it’s time you and i had an honest conversation about what’s going on between you and rafe.

Johnny: I know you’re a busy man, so I’ll make sure all the papers get drawn up.

Tripp: Hey, allie. I didn’t expect to see you till after work.

Allie: I know. Um… but I just wanted to know if you had a few minutes to talk.

Tripp: Yeah, yeah, sure. What’s up? I thought you were going over to see chanel.

Allie: Um, I was. But after what happened last night, I had to come see you right away. This is the sound of nature breathing.

Nicole: Ava, I– I told you a million times that rafe and i are just friends.

Ava: That’s exactly my point. You’re both friends and you’re staying away from each other and it’s not right.

Nicole: Well… we’re just trying to be sensitive to your feelings.

Ava: I know. But it’s unnecessary. I was silly to be so insecure. You know, I really do trust both of you and I just– I don’t want you to stay away from rafe on my account, okay?

Nicole: I’m not staying away from him. I’m just, you know, busy.

Ava: So busy– too busy for old friends? I mean, you and I are still friends, aren’t we?

Allie: I am. Um… last night, chanel and I…

Tripp: Go on.

Allie: We had a really long talk. And the more she was talking to me about johnny, the more that i realized that I am so lucky to have you.

Tripp: That made you upset?

Allie: Yeah. Because, I don’t know, I feel like I don’t tell you that enough. And maybe I sometimes take you for granted.

Tripp: You–you don’t have to tell me anything. I mean– when it’s the real deal, you just know. No words necessary. Okay?

[Tense, emotional music]

Johnny: I wish you would have warned me you were coming by.

Chanel: Oh, sorry, did i displease you? I wouldn’t wanna get on your bad side.

Jonny: Look, I’m busy and we really have nothing left to talk about, so…

Chanel: I agree. So…think fast.

[Ring clinks]

Johnny: Thanks. And while you’re at it, could you leave the keys to the house?

Chanel: Oh, I’m way ahead of you. And giovanni? Go to hell.

[Dramatic music]

Johnny: Been there, done that.

[Laughs]

Chad: I’ll just spin it. I’ll tell shin that I thought ej was guilty and that I didn’t wanna let him get away with it. That I was… serving the course of justice.

Kate: [Sighs] Shin doesn’t care about serving the course of justice, okay? He just cares about market share. And when one co-ceo is trying to send the other co-ceo up the river, well, that just looks really bad for the corporate image.

Chad: Well, I–I have to… I have to take my chances. I mean… I mean, ej’s been a real son of a bitch since he got back to town, but… he’s my brother and he welcomed me into the family when he didn’t have to. So I’m sorry, but I’m gonna have to, um… I’m gonna have to tell them that he didn’t do it. I have to go to court, tell them the truth.

Melinda: [Laughs] You’re here early. Nervous?

Ej: Just trying to avoid the media.

Melinda: Oh, if you wanted to avoid the media, you shouldn’t have had your wife kidnapped.

Paulina: When that pile of glass was about to come raining down on me, you–you called out to me, told me to look out.

Lani: Yeah.

Paulina: Yeah. You called me mom.

Paulina: It happened fast, but I’m pretty sure that’s what I heard.

Lani: Oh, um, hm. I guess I did.

Paulina: Well, I suppose my question is why?

Tripp: Hey there. I hear someone banged up her ankle tonight. Must’ve been some wedding reception.

Lani: You could say that.

Tripp: So tell me what happened.

Paulina: Johnny dimera happened. I could wring that boy’s neck for hurting my baby. And I would have too if that tacky chandelier hadn’t almost fallen on me.

Tripp: Wait. A chandelier almost fell on you?

Lani: Yeah. Long story.

Tripp: And what did johnny do to chanel?

Paulina: What did he do? Oh, that pompous trustafarian, he broke my daughter’s heart.

Chanel: [Crying] I don’t know what I’d do without you, horton.

[Sniffling] I’m so wrecked, I can hardly stand.

Allie: That’s–that’s what we do for each other. It’s what we’ve always done since london. When the world gets one of us down, we hold each other up.

Chanel: You and me against the world.

Allie: Yeah. You and me.

[Romantic music]

Susan: And why would you call me “grandma” when we both know that you are not my grandson?

Johnny: What do you mean I’m not johnny?

Susan: I mean you are the mean, mean, mean devil himself. And as god is my witness, I am gonna put an end to your reign of terror once and for all!

Johnny: Grandma susan, i think you should go lay down. You’re obviously not yourself.

Johnny: Don’t be silly. You don’t have to be afraid of me.

Susan: I am not afraid! I’m not afraid! I’m not afraid because I’ve got god on my side.

Johnny: You’re being– you’re being ridiculous. It’s me, your dear, sweet johnny.

Susan: Oh, there is nothing sweet about you. I can smell the brimstone on your breath.

Johnny: What? You’re not– you’re not making any sense.

Susan: Oh, I’m making so much sense. I am because I can feel it. I feel it in my bones. And you–you must’ve jumped out of dr. Marlena evans and into my sweet johnny during the exorcism. And you can’t fool me. You can’T. Not anymore.

Johnny: [Scoffs] Oh.

[Demon voice] I guess you’re not as dumb as you look.

Susan: Oh! It’s you! Beelzebub! I knew it! I knew it!

Demon johnny: Congratulations, susie Q. You figured it out. So now what are you gonna do about it?

Tripp: Johnny dumped chanel at their wedding reception in front of everyone?

Paulina: Hm. I thought nothing could be worse than my wedding to abe, but this was way worse.

Tripp: What did– what did chanel do?

Paulina: Well, she ran out in tears, and I would have chased after her, but–

Tripp: So she’s alone right now?

Lani: No, no. Allie went to find her.

Tripp: That must be why she hadn’t returned my call.

Paulina: Yeah, she’s probably busy consoling my poor girl. Oh, she’s a good friend, that one.

Tripp: Yeah. Yeah, she is. Look, I’ll go get this x-ray ordered, and I’ll give her another call, check and see how she and chanel are doing.

Paulina: Oh, do me a favor, dr. Tripp. Don’t tell chanel anything about my injuries. She’s–she’s got enough to worry about. Mm.

Allie: I’m so sorry.

Chanel: For kissing me or for pulling away?

Allie: I’m sorry about what my brother did to you, but I’m–I’m committed to tripp. Okay?

Chanel: Horton.

Allie: No, I have to go.

[Dramatic music]

[Phone vibrates] Hey.

Tripp: Hey there. I just heard what happened at the reception. Is chanel okay?

Allie: She’s–she’s upset, of course. I mean, beyond upset, she’s furious, heartbroken. But she’ll be all right.

Tripp: You’re with her right now?

Allie: Yeah. I– I just put her to bed.

Tripp: At your place?

Allie: No, I’m at her mom’S. But I’m gonna head home now.

Tripp: Okay. I’ve got to get back to work, but just tell chanel that I’m thinking about her.

Allie: Okay, I will. Um, I’ll see you tomorrow. Love you.

Chanel: Horton, please. Don’t go. Don’t bail on me the way your brother did. As a dj, I know all about customization.

Ben: Here’s what I propose.

Ciara: Hmm.

Ben: We lay out the pros and the cons of opening the envelope in an orderly fashion. And then each of us pick a side and we argue–

Ciara: Oh, let’s just open it!

Ben: Whoa. Are you sure?

Ciara: Yes. No. Yes. I–mm, I don’t know. Maybe.

[Groans]

Ben: Great. So it’s settled then.

Ciara: Oh, why is this so hard, babe?

[Knocking on door]

Ben: Maybe we should just ask whoever’s on the other side of this door.

Ciara: Yes, that is a good a plan as any.

[Sighs]

Ben: Shawn.

Shawn: What’s up? Hey.

Ciara: Amazing. Yes or no?

Shawn: Uh, yes or no what?

Ciara: Just pick one, yes or no.

Shawn: I’ve learned never to give an answer without knowing the question first, so.

Ciara: Fine, be boring. Be that way.

Shawn: Is there a problem? What’s going on? I mean, how was the doctor’s appointment?

Ciara: Good. Better than good. It was perfect. It was great.

Shawn: That’s great.

Ciara: Yeah.

Shawn: So do you have any news?

Ben: Well, we had the sonogram appointment today. And a doctor was able to determine the sex of the baby.

Ciara: Mm.Shawn: That’s excellent! So what’s going on? Am I gonna have a niece or a nephew?

Ciara: Oh, we have no idea.

[Groans]

Chanel: I shouldn’t have compared you to your brother.

Allie: It’s okay. I know how bad he hurt you.

Chanel: No, it’s not okay. You and johnny may be twins, but you are nothing alike. You are kind and thoughtful. And you would never humiliate the person you claimed to love. You would never do that.

Allie: Dupree.

Chanel: Please, don’t tell me not to cry.

Allie: I was just going to say that my brother isn’t worth your tears.

Chanel: I know I took it too far before, but if you could, please, just stay, as friends. I don’t want to be alone tonight.

Belle: [Exhales deeply] Wow.

Ej: Mm-hmm.

Belle: I can’t believe johnny would do that to chanel. Man, that is brutal, even by dimera standards.

Ej: First of all, the boy is half brady–

Belle: Half sami brady.

Ej: And what would you have him do, stay in a loveless marriage?

Belle: Of course not. I just wish he would found a more humane way to end things. Or I don’t know, realize he wasn’t ready for marriage in the first place.

Ej: Well, we all can’t be as perfect as you and shawn.

Belle: Wh– hang on. Are you proud of what johnny did?

Ej: Proud?

Belle: Yeah. When I walked in here, you were having drinks with your father. And maybe you and that vampire were toasting to johnny’s cruelty.

Ej: You sound like my mother with all that vampire talk.

Belle: Mm.

Ej: And you don’t seem to mind cashing your sizable retainer from the company that bears said vampire’s name.

Belle: Yes, that reminds me, is chad here? Because I do have contracts for him to sign.

Ej: I’m not the keeper of my brother’s calendar. I have far more pressing matters on my mind.

Belle: Ah, you mean your kidnapping trial starting tomorrow?

Ej: Yes, that.

Belle: Well, from what I understand, the evidence of you abducting sami is pretty flimsy. So I’m sure your attorney will mount a credible defense.

Ej: I don’t have an attorney.

Belle: What?

Ej: I represented myself at the bail hearing. I figured I’d continue to do so at the trial.

Belle: [Scoffs] You have heard the saying, “he who represents himself has a fool for a client.”

Ej: All right then, counselor, why don’t you represent me?

Belle: [Huffs]

Susan: See, everyone thought you were gone, lucifer. But I knew it. I knew that you hadn’t gone back to that fiery pits of h-e double-hockey-sticks where you belong!

Demon johnny: Do you want an award, maybe some ice cream?

Susan: No! I want you gone, devil!

Demon johnny: You know, I’ll give you credit. You are much more clever than one would assume. It’s too bad you won’t live long enough for anyone else in salem to find out.

Susan: See, I’ve faced you before. I am not afraid of you.

Demon johnny: See, now– now you aren’t sounding smart.

Susan: I’m not afraid of you because you can do anything you want with this body, you can, but you can never, ever touch my immortal soul.

Demon johnny: No offense, but who would want to do anything to that body? I mean, it ain’t exactly built for sin, if you know what I mean. Why do you think I had to turn you into kristen dimera in order to seduce john black?

Susan: And how did that work out for you?

Demon johnny: He is a stubborn, stubborn man. I’ll give you that.

Susan: Mm-mm. Mr. John black, he is strong, and he is loving, and he is loyal. Everything that you– you, demon, are not.

Demon johnny: And yet, I’m still here.

Susan: All right. Now what?

Demon johnny: Good question. Um, well, let’s see. I could turn you back into kristen dimera or a cat. Or maybe– maybe I’ll turn you into a bug so I can squash you underneath my cloven hoof. It’s my 4:05 the-show-must-go-on

Tripp: Okay. So we should have the results of your x-rays back soon.

Paulina: So allie said chanel is doing okay?

Tripp: Yeah, she said she just put her to bed, and now she’s headed home.

Lani: A good night’s sleep will help.

Paulina: I bet she doesn’t sleep a wink, ’cause when she wakes up, that heartache will still be there. I got to– I’ve got to be there for her!

Tripp: I understand that, but we need to get this ankle treated first, okay?

Paulina: Well, can’t you just, you know, wrap it up and let me get out of here?

Tripp: Not just yet, okay? I’m gonna go check on your x-rays. Make sure she won’t make a break for it?

Lani: I will do my best.

Paulina: Ooh. Nothing I hate more than feeling helpless.

Lani: I know. And I know how worried you are about chanel. I am too.

Paulina: I remember when she was little, I used to think, “oh, I’ll be so glad when she gets older, so I can worry less.” But you’ll find this out when your twins get older, a mother never stops worrying about her children, all of her children.

Chanel: Horton, I know I made it weird before, but nothing has to happen between us if you stay. I swear. I just– I don’t want to be alone right now.

Allie: Dupree.

Chanel: My whole life was ripped apart in front of everyone I care about, and I just feel sad, humiliated, lost.

Allie: I would never want you to feel that way.

Chanel: Then you’ll stay?

Allie: Yeah. Yeah, of course I’ll stay.

Chanel: [Sighs] Thank you. You have no idea how much this means to me.

Allie: I just have to call nicole and let her know that I’m not gonna be coming home, see if she’s okay with watching henry.

Chanel: Thank you. And I’m–I’m sorry, again, for what I said before.

Allie: I know you didn’t mean it.

Chanel: Sometimes I can’t believe that you and johnny are twins.

Allie: Yeah, me neither. I hate him for what he did to you. I don’t think I’m ever gonna forgive him for it.

Chanel: I thought he loved me. I thought that we were going to spend the rest of our lives together. I don’t understand how I could have been so wrong about him.

Susan: You can make me a bug, but you cannot crush my spirit, because I have the father, and the son, and the holy ghost on my side. Not to mention mr. John black.

Demon johnny: Is that supposed to make me nervous?

Susan: Ugh! It should! It should, because we’re gonna stop you cold and save my poor grandson from this wicked possession of his body.

[Huffs]

[Door slams]

Demon johnny: See–see, now– now you say you don’t care what I do to you, but what about those you love?

Susan: [Whimpers] What do you mean?

Demon johnny: Well, let’s talk about your beloved elvis. Perhaps it’s time I make good on my threat to dispose of him.

Susan: [Stammering] Stay away from him!

Demon johnny: Oh, I don’t want to hurt ej. Like his father before him, he’s always been so willing to do my handiwork.

Susan: Elvis is such a good boy.

Demon johnny: Well, he’s far from good. But if you force my hand, I won’t think twice about walking downstairs and ripping his beating heart out of his chest.

Belle: I can’t represent you.

Ej: Why not?

Belle: I’m dimera’s corporate counsel. That would be a conflict of interest.

Ej: We can get around that.

Belle: Okay. What about the part where you’re being prosecuted for my sister’s kidnaping?

Ej: That’s a plus. My alleged victim’s own sister believes my innocence.

Belle: Who says I think you’re innocent? Besides, chad and shin would never go for that. I’d be fired on the spot.

Ej: You leave chad and the dimera board to me. I’ll make them see that it’s in the company’s best interest to have these ridiculous charges against me dropped.

Belle: Okay. Maybe you haven’t noticed, but the company is doing everything it can to distance itself from you and this case.

Ej: Cowards.

Belle: I’m just saying, they’re not gonna want me anywhere near it.

Ej: I don’t know about that. What if you’re my best chance at making this whole thing go away?

Belle: I think you’re asking the wrong question. Even if by some miracle the board did approve it, what makes you think I’d want to represent you?

Shawn: Okay, so do either one of you have a preference as to whether or not you want a boy or girl?

Ciara: No. Of course not. As long as the baby is healthy.

Shawn: Ben?

Ben: Same.

Shawn: Okay, so then why don’t we just open it and find out so you can get started on what color to paint the nursery?

Ciara: Okay, well, first of all, we are painting the nursery a neutral color because we are not about gender stereotyping our child.

Shawn: Right. Of course.

Ciara: And we’re even gonna teach them that they can choose their own pronouns when they get old enough.

Shawn: Okay. And I’m totally cool with all that, so why don’t we open the envelope so we can find out, right? Woman: Life’s been hard enough.

Ej: Look, I understand your reluctance to represent me. We’ve had our differences. And I realize honesty hasn’t always been my strong suit.

Belle: You think?

Ej: However, I assure you I’m telling the truth when I say I did not have samantha kidnapped. Someone framed me.

Belle: Even if I believed you, and I am not saying that I do, sami thinks you’re guilty. And so I would be betraying my own sister if I represented you.

Ej: It’s not as if sami hasn’t betrayed you, over and over again.

Belle: It doesn’t make it right.

Ej: Look, I’m fighting for my life here. If you don’t wanna help me for me, then do it for your niece and nephew. Do you really think johnny and sydney’s father should go to prison for a crime he didn’t commit?

Belle: Think of the children? That’s your pitch?

Ej: Think of the children.

Belle: Only problem is johnny is not an innocent child. He proved that here tonight.

Susan: Oh. I am not gonna fall for that twice. Mm-mm.

Demon johnny: Fall for what?

Susan: You bluffing about killing my elvis.

Demon johnny: And what makes you think I’m bluffing?

Susan: Because most people think that you’re gone, and that’s just the way you like it, because you’re not gonna kill my elvis, uh-uh, not in the middle of the dimera family mansion. There are witnesses downstairs.

Demon johnny: [Laughs] You think I care about witnesses?

Susan: Yes. I do. I do because you can wreak more havoc on the– on the down low like you did tonight.

Demon johnny: Or maybe people will just think johnny went off the deep end.

Susan: Uh-uh. ‘Cause even if they do, my johnny, my sweet, sweet johnny would never hurt his daddy! Uh-uh. He–he–he would never, ever kill him. And if the second he did– the second he did, people would know that satan is still in salem, and then mr. John black and his hunky stepson, father eric, and all the forces of good are gonna come, and they are gonna vanquish you again, buster! Right?

Allie: Thank you so much. Give henry a big kiss for me, okay? All right, I’ll see you first thing in the morning. Yeah, night. Hi, it is totally fine with nicole if I stay here.

Chanel: Thank you again for doing this. I swear, if you weren’t here–

Chanel: I’m so, so grateful to have you.

Allie: Okay, so I’m just gonna go sleep on the couch, but I’m right outside if you need me.

Tripp: You’re lucky it’s just a sprain, but I want you to stay off of it for a few days, okay?

Paulina: Will do. And, you know, dr. Tripp, you got a nice bedside manner.

Tripp: Thank you.

Paulina: And I’m sure you are going to be a top-notch physician.

Tripp: Well, I have a great role model in my stepmom– chief of staff, dr. Kayla johnson.

Paulina: [Gasps] Right. Well, I’m sure she is as proud of you as I am of my girls.

Tripp: And now I’m gonna go get started on your discharge paperwork and prescriptions. I’m also gonna give you a cane, that’ll help steady yourself while you heal, okay? I’ll be back in a few.

Tripp: Oh, I’m sorry. Does that hurt?

Susan: No, no, sir. I just get the tickles real easy.

Tripp: Sorry. I’ll be done in just a minute.

Susan: Okay.

Tripp: Ms. Banks, you mentioned that you had a vision right before you had this attack. You don’t remember anything else that could have contributed to to the pain, your nausea?

Susan: No, I mean, it came on all of a sudden, it just–

Marlena: Susan, you okay?

Susan: Are those new shoes, doc?

Tripp: Why do you ask?

Susan: I already upchucked all over poor dr. Marlena’s blue suedes, and I’d sure hate to ruin two pairs in the same night.

Abe: [Chuckling] Two pairs. Jacks over deuces.

John: Thought you were bluffing.

Abe: I know you were bluffing.

John: Well, not this time, buddy, because I got three sixes, boom, boom, boom. And the pot is all mine.

Abe: 666, the devil’s hand.

John: Don’t go there, abraham.

Johnny: And now, it is my turn and I’d like to start by paying homage to my nonno. And there he is, the formidable stefano dimera whom I loved and revered, and miss to this day. He gave me everything a kid could ever want, and he taught me that nothing was more important than family. You know, they say parents and grandparents, they shouldn’t pick favorites. He ignored that rule. He let me know without question, that I was his favorite, his little giovanni. And I thought he was the greatest, but then as I got older, I realized some people thought he was a terrible person. Some even said he was evil. I never saw it that way. I saw stefano dimera as a man who knew what he wanted and he didn’t let anything stand in his way. I don’t consider that evil. I think it’s smart, something to be admired. And it’s taken me a while to figure out what it is that I want, but I finally have. And chanel, I have come to realize it’s not you.

Chanel: What?

Johnny: I’m sorry, chanel. I don’t wanna be married to you anymore.

Chanel: G, what are you saying? What do you mean you don’t wanna be married to me anymore? Is this some sort of joke?

Johnny: No, chanel, I’m dead serious.

[Dramatic music]

Marlena: Are you still feeling nauseous?

Susan: A little, you know, it’s like I told you before, sometimes I get this way before a premonition. Bad timing, huh? I mean, I’m not gonna be able to go to that big party that my son is throwing.

Tripp: I assume you’re talking about the wedding reception of chanel and johnny dimera.

Susan: Yeah, yeah. Darn, I’m gonna miss it. I bet you it’s gonna be one heck of a bash.

Tripp: Right, I’m sorry to be missing it myself.

Paulina: You don’t wanna be married to my daughter? You little swine, what the hell are you trying to pull?

Johnny: Just owning my truth.

Paulina: Oh, you arrogant twit, how about you take your damn truth, and you just–you stick it where the sun don’t shine.

Chanel: Oh, I think I’m gonna be sick.

Allie: Johnny, what is going on? Why are you doing this?

Johnny: Well, turns out you were right all along, sis, I’m just not that good at relationships, you know. I thought this one might be different, but I was wrong, obviously.

Chanel: My god, this cannot be happening.

Johnny: I’m genuinely sorry to be upsetting you like this, chanel. I know before we got married in italy, I did everything I could to sweep you off your feet. But now that we’re standing here in this room, surrounded by our loving families, my nonno’s portrait reminding me of his adoration for me, and mine of him, is urging me to not let anything hold me back. And I realize now that I need my freedom. And then there was my father’s toast. I believe the essence of what he said was that we dimeras are strong-willed, passionate, determined. And right now, I’m determined to undo a mistake that I made, a very hurtful one, as it turns out.

Ej: As I said, my son is his own man. He makes his own decisions.

Johnny: Indeed, I do. And though my father oftentimes disagrees with said decisions, I know he respects my independent spirit. So yes, I chose to marry chanel, and now I’m choosing to end that marriage.

Chanel: End the marriage? Oh, my god, so you’re saying–

Johnny: I’m saying that it’s over, chanel. I want a divorce.

[Tense music]

John: Scariest fight of my life. But I’m happy to say the demon’s gone. If he knows what’s good for him, he’ll stay gone.

Tripp: I’ll have the lab put a rush on this.

Tripp: But your vitals are good so it’s probably like what you said, something that you ate or maybe even a stomach virus.

Susan: Or a premonition.

Paulina: You end the marriage like this in front of all these people?

Pauline: You heartless bastard, I have a mind to just wring your neck.

Chanel: Mama, please, stop. Johnny’s daddy just said how johnny can speak for himself, and mama, as much as i appreciate you having my back, your daughter can fight her own battles.

Paulina: Okay, you go, girl.

Chanel: But, johnny, upstairs just before this party, you told me and you showed me how much you love me. I looked into your eyes, and I saw inside of your heart that all you wanted was to be with me. So maybe this is just cold feet or jet lag–

Johnny: It’s neither, it’s neither, chanel; it’s much more profound than that.

Johnny: It goes deeper is what I mean–look, chanel, you are an incredible woman, and from the moment I met you, I was struck by your beauty, your intelligence–

Anna: Then why do you want to divorce her?

Tony: Anna.

Johnny: But I realize we’re both young. There’s so much more we need to explore, to experience.

Chanel: You can speak for yourself.

Johnny: No, no. I mean, not really. I guess I was just trying to convince myself that I was capable of loving someone, that I could commit myself to that someone. But as soon as this marriage became a reality, which it did tonight at this party with everyone addressing us as husband and wife, I realized I’m just not there yet. I’m so sorry, chanel.

Chanel: Yeah, yeah. Well, I’m not. You see, what I’m feeling is grateful as hell that I found this all out now. Because, if this is who you are, if you can turn on a dime like this and toss me out of your life at what was supposed to be a celebration of our marriage, then you are the last man on earth that I would wanna be with. Susan: This is the last place I thought I’d end up tonight.

John: See the thing is marlena’s still struggling with all this guilt she feels about all the people she hurt when she was possessed.

John: Well, true, true, and I’m sure she knows that on one level, but she’s still carrying it with her. And she’s going around, she’s making amends, so just fyi, she’s probably gonna come knocking on your door, apologizing for blowing up your wedding to paulina.

Abe: You know, no apologies are necessary, especially since the devil, I think might have done me a favor letting me know the truth about paulina before I made the mistake of spending the rest of my life with the wrong person.

Paulina: Chanel, baby, wait.

Allie: No, I’ll go. Johnny, how could you do this to her? What are you doing?

Johnny: You can’t be that surprised, allie.

Chanel: Hey, horton. I’m calling because my mom is throwing johnny and me a wedding reception here at the mansion. And I was hoping that you and tripp could come.

Allie: Yeah, of course. When is it?

Chanel: In a couple of hours.

Allie: Talk about short notice.

Chanel: Sorry. I meant to call you earlier, but johnny’s been distracting me.

Johnny: You ready for another round?

Marlena: John, I appreciate your caring, but you don’t have to keep on calling me. No, no, I’m fine, I’m fine. You go ahead and enjoy your poker game with abe and roman. I’m just gonna finish my tea and–and just relax. Yeah. I love you, too. Okay, bye-bye.

[Knocking on door]

Susan: Out, demon! Be gone from dr. Marlena evans once and for all.

[Light piano music]

[Soft orchestration]

Paulina: Okay if I come in?

Lani: Actually, um, eli and i were just settling down for a quiet evening, so.

Paulina: Well, I hate to disturb you, but I just wanted to come by in person to tell you that I’m throwing a wedding reception for your sister. Tonight.

Lani: Tonight?

Paulina: Mm-hmm. Well, just family. And I want–wanted to tell you in person ’cause it would mean the world to chanel if you could attend. It would mean the world to me, too.

Lani: Thank you for including us. But since I’ve been back at work I only get a few hours a day with the twins, so.

Paulina: Well, you–you know, you wouldn’t be gone that long. You come by, just raise a glass. You’ll be back with those little angels before you know it.

Lani: Sorry, paulina, but it’s a no.

Eli: Paulina, we–we appreciate the invite, but lani’s had a tough day, so we’re gonna sit this one out.

Paulina: Oh. Oh. Oh. Yeah, well, okay. So, well, let’s just get the family together soon for a celebratory dinner.

Eli: Yeah, sounds great. Hey, please, give chanel– give chanel our love.

Paulina: Mm-hmm. Yeah. I will. And you two, you– you have a nice evening.

Eli: You too.

Lani: “Sounds great”?

Eli: Just trying to be nice.

Lani: I get that, eli, but you can’t say things like that to her. You have to remember with her it’s always the same thing. You give her an inch, she takes a mile.

Paulina: [Sobbing quietly]

Anna: Come on, ej, this is happy news. You need to stop being so cynical.

Tony: I’m gonna agree with anna. ‘Cause regardless of how you must feel about this young woman, johnny must love her and you’ll only alienate him further if you do not support this union. So why don’t you just put on a happy face and give these kids your blessing?

Ej: Even if I think it’s a match made in hell?

Chanel: Horton, I gotta go. Why are you looking at me like that?

Johnny: ‘Cause you’re the sexiest woman alive. Let’s make love again.

Chanel: You’re joking, right?

Johnny: Not at all. I feel like I could go forever.

Chanel: That’s great. But just this morning you were completely wiped out. And now it’s like– it’s like you’re unstoppable.

[Tense music]

[Eerie chuckling] Johnny? You suddenly seem so far away. Is everything okay?

Johnny: Uh, yeah. Yeah, it’s fine. I just– I was trying to figure out how I went from being so out of it this morning to feeling like I can take on the world. Must be because I’m crazy in love with my wife.

Chanel: Well, I’m crazy in love with you, too.

Johnny: Yeah?

Chanel: Mm-hmm. And pretty soon a whole bunch of people will be here to celebrate our love, so we need to get ready.

Johnny: Okay. But before we do.

Tripp: So the party’s tonight, huh?

Allie: Yep. Totally last minute. But chanel really wants both of us there.

Tripp: Sounds really fun, but I am on call tonight.

Allie: Can anyone cover for you?

Tripp: Maybe if I was still in med school. But now that I’m officially a doctor, if they need me–

Allie: You have to show up. I get it.

Tripp: But of course I’ll still go to the party, okay? Just know there’s a chance I might have to get called back to the hospital.

Allie: Okay. Well, maybe we’ll get lucky. I really, really want you there with me.

Tripp: For moral support because you’re still on the fence about this marriage? Or to celebrate because you’re really okay with it now?

Allie: I am really okay with it now. I just feel bad about the way I reacted when I first heard.

Tripp: Johnny and chanel accepted your apology.

Allie: I mean they claimed to. But tripp, I said some really hurtful things. I mean, I told my best friend that it was just a matter of time before my brother broke her heart.

Tripp: Hey. You were caught off guard. Okay? And from what you’ve told me about johnny’s past, you had good reason to be worried.

Allie: You know, my brother might have been a serious player back in the day. But I think for the first time he’s–he’s really in love. Just like I’m really in love with you.

Tripp: Hmm. But we don’t wanna be late. So, we should go shower. Together?

Tripp: That is a fantastic idea. Yes.

Susan: Begone, beelzebub! And if this doesn’t work — how about this? Burn, baby, burn.

Marlena: Susan, stop. Susan, stop. Look, I appreciate your concern, really, I do. But it’s marlena. The devil is gone.

Susan: I wanna believe you, I do, I do. But you know what lucifer can be. He can be a crafty son of a gun. And–and he can sneak up on you when you least expect it.

Marlena: Yeah. No, no, no. No more holy water.

Susan: No, I need–I need to vanquish evil.

Marlena: Oh, please, all you’re doing is vanquishing my makeup. Please, please, please stop. I promise you, it really is me. Woman: I have moderate to severe plaque psoriasis.

Susan: Okay, okay, I believe you, all right. You know– you are dr. Marlena evans, not the devil in disguise.

Marlena: And that’s true. So thank you. Thank you for believing me.

Susan: Oh, I do, I do, finally. You know what? You can have the holy water just in case. Here you go. I’m gonna keep the cross. It gives me comfort.

Marlena: Yeah. Well, come in. You know, after what you’ve been through, I can understand you being afraid.

Susan: Thank you. Thank you for understanding.

Marlena: Susan?

Marlena: John told me what I did to you. I’m so sorry.

Susan: Oh, hey, I don’t blame you, not one bit. I mean, it wasn’t you who turned me into kristen dimera and that little kitty cat. That was him.

Marlena: It must’ve been horrible.

Susan: Oh, I mean the kitty cat, that wasn’t so bad. But kristen, yeah, that was another story.

Marlena: Yeah. You know, the reason he wanted you to be kristen was so that you could seduce john.

Susan: Oh. You know what? There was no chance of that, nope. Zero, zilcho, zip that it was gonna happen because you know what? John black is true blue.

Marlena: I know. Even in my darkest hour, I never stopped believing in him. I never stopped believing in our love.

Eli: Lani, I know how you feel about paulina. But I don’t see the harm in going the family dinner or the party.

Lani: Don’t you get it? That’s not how she operates. You say yes to her once and next thing you know, it’s–it’s every week. Didn’t you see how she just barreled in here? She has no respect for boundaries. She doesn’t care about what we want. It’s all about what she wants.

Eli: Right now it’s all about chanel.

Lani: And I want to do something nice for chanel. But guess who bought the entire registry?

Eli: The best gift that you could give chanel is to be there for her.

Lani: Well, I wanna be with the kids.

Eli: You– we just put them down. I’m sure they’re– they’re out for the rest of the night.

Lani: Well, where are we gonna find a babysitter this late?

Eli: You’re looking at him.

Lani: What?

Eli: Wha–wait, you should go to the party yourself.

Lani: Oh, hell no. Mm-mm.

Eli: Hey, look, I know that you’re angry with your mother–

Eli: Listen, chanel didn’t do anything wrong. I’m sure that she’ll be very hurt that you’re not there.

Lani: Do you have any idea what it’s like to be married to someone who’s always right?

Eli: I don’t– I don’t know about always but in this case, yes.

Lani: [Laughs]

Eli: Go–go get dressed. Be there for chanel.

Lani: Thank you.

Eli: Go, go.

Lani: Okay. I’m going.

Tripp: Wow. You look incredible.

Allie: And you look super hot in scrubs but even hotter in regular clothes. Not to mention out of them.

Tripp: I do love you.

[Phone rings] It’s the hospital. Dr. Johnson. I’m on my way.

Allie: No, it’s my fault for mentioning scrubs.

Tripp: Hopefully, this won’t take too long. And as soon as I’m done, I’ll head straight to the party. Okay?

Allie: Okay.

[Sighs]

[Dramatic music]

Johnny: I love you so much, chanel. And that is why I am so excited for this party tonight. So that both of our families can see that.

Chanel: They think we moved way too fast.

Johnny: Who cares? We know we made the right decision. Look at this. These rings, they mean that we belong to each other. We’re committed. And we’re in love. And we want the whole world to see that. And that’s what tonight’s about. It’s about going down there, and showing everybody that we are proud of the decision that we made. And that we couldn’t be more excited about the incredible life that we’re gonna build together as husband and as wife.

Chanel: Come on, G. Let’s get ready to go see our families.

Johnny: Okay. Let’s get down there and let’s torch any doubts in their minds.

Tony: A match made in hell? What a dreadful way to speak about your son’s marriage.

Ej: It’s the truth. Johnny is being taken for a ride by a con artist.

Anna: Now hang on here a minute, ej. Tony has met chanel and he thinks she’s a lovely young woman.

Tony: It doesn’t matter what I think. Johnny is obviously in love with her, made a commitment to her. I’m at least willing to give her a chance.

Ej: How much of a chance? One that costs us a million dollars? Ten? Twenty?

Anna: Oh, would you stop with the suspicions. You know, not everyone is after the dimera fortune.

Ej: It’s not speculation, I assure you. Chanel married xander cook when she thought he was wealthy. When she found out he wasn’t, she had the marriage annulled. It lasted all of one day.

Tony: Fine. But we don’t know the whole story now, do we? Not to mention the fact it happened some time ago. I mean, doesn’t chanel have her own successful business? And from what I’ve heard, she’s already an heiress. Her mother is very wealthy. A real estate mogul.

Ej: Yes. But it’s new money. I mean, look at that hideous banner and these decorations. I’d say paulina’s taste is a little– well, you get the picture.

Paulina: Well, not me. I don’t get the picture. Could you describe it to me, ej? Spell it out, huh? This is the sound of nature breathing.

Susan: I just admire you so much, dr. Marlena evans. I mean, you’re so wise and, I mean, you’ve helped so many people. And just talking to you right now, I mean, I feel like I can handle whatever comes my way. Like the party at the mansion.

Marlena: Party?

Susan: Uh-huh. To celebrate our sweet johnny getting married. You know, ms. Paulina price, she–that’s the bride’s mama, now she put it together real last-minute.

Marlena: I see.

Susan: I mean, since you’re johnny’s grandma, too, I mean, you should come. We should go together.

Marlena: No, no, no. I can’t do that.

Susan: Why the heck not?

Marlena: You’re not the only person that I hurt when I wasn’t myself. I actually, well, destroyed paulina’s wedding. And I don’t think she would want me there to celebrate her daughter’s wedding.

Paulina: What were you saying about my taste, ej? It’s, like, what? Cheap? Chintzy? Tacky?

Ej: Of course not. I’d call it…festive.

Paulina: Mm-hmm.

Anna: Paulina, hi. I’m anna dimera, ej’s sister-in-law. And this is tony, my husband, ej’s brother.

Tony: Nice to meet you.

Paulina: It’s a pleasure to meet you both.

Anna: I can’t tell you, we’re so over the moon that your daughter and our nephew found each other. Can’t wait to meet your chanel. I’ve heard such nice things about her.

Ej: Tony, I could use your help with the champagne. Come along.

Tony: Excuse me.

Anna: Please, paulina, you have to ignore ej when he’s in a bad mood, which is most of the time.

Paulina: He’s not as enthusiastic about chanel becoming a dimera as you are.

Anna: Well, I just don’t– I don’t think he’s upset about your daughter. I think he’s more in a bad mood because he just got booted out of the family company and he might be going to prison.

Paulina: Oh, I heard about that.

Anna: Mm. And don’t listen to a word he said about your taste. I think the decorations are fabulous.

Paulina: Well, thank you. You’re staying for the party?

Anna: Oh, absolutely. I love celebrating young love. Or any kind of love.

Paulina: I am with you on that, anna.

[Doorbell rings]

Chanel: Horton! Wow, girl. You look beautiful.

Allie: Thanks. And you just take my breath away. Wow.

Demon johnny: We are looking so hot tonight, giovanni. If you’d just stop fighting me, we could set this whole town on fire. The world is full of make or break moments.

Chanel: Where’s tripp?

Allie: He’s on-call tonight.

Chanel: Oh, that’s sucks.

Allie: Yeah, I know. He said he might try and come over later though if it’s not too late when he’s done.

Chanel: Cool. And, horton, I want you to know I’m really glad you’re here.

Allie: I am too.

[Both giggle]

Tony: So when will chad and abigail arrive?

Ej: They’re not coming.

Tony: They declined your invitation?

Ej: I didn’t extend one. It’s bad enough that my home’s been transformed into a vegas wedding chapel. But if I also had to look at our brother’s smug face all evening, I might give the authorities a real reason to lock me up.

Tony: Cheer up, will you? Ej. This is a party.

Ej: Not one I wanted to have.

Paulina: You know, your brother-in-law got one thing right.

Anna: Really? What was that?

Paulina: It is festive!

Anna: Yes.

Paulina: And wait till you try the food, oh! I hired the top-notch caterer. Most amazing reviews. Oh, chanel! Allie!

Chanel: Hi, mama.

Paulina: Baby, oh! You look stunning. Oh, you both do.

Allie: Thank you. So do you, ms. Price.

Paulina: Well, thank you. Chanel darling, this is johnny’s auntie, ms. Anna dimera.

Chanel: Oh, it’s very nice to meet you.

Anna: You too. Same to you. And she’s right, you do look gorgeous. You both do. Aren’t they just adorable?

[Laughter]

Paulina: Oh, that they are.

Anna: Yeah, I mean it. It’s like the minute you walked in, I thought, “holy moly. These two have something really special going on.” I don’t know how else to say it but you just look so right together.

Paulina: Of course they do. They’re best friends, they’re business associates, and now sisters-in-law. But we better get this party started, but we can’t without the groom. Where is your husband, baby?

[Eerie music]

Johnny: No, no. This can’t be happening.

Demon johnny: Oh, but it is, giovanni. I know you can feel my power coursing through your veins. And I know you want it. And you know you want it. Stop fighting. Just give in to it. Give in to it now!

[Thunder booms]

Marlena: Susan? Susan? You’re pale as a ghost. Are you all right?

[Eerie music]

Marlena: Oh, oh, my goodness. No, no, susan, that’s okay. You just stay calm. I’m gonna take you to the hospital.

Susan: Oh, no, no, no. The party?

Marlena: Oh, you are not going to a party.

Susan: I have to. I have to. It’s for our grandson.

Marlena: No, no, no. The only place you’re going is a hospital. But I will–I will call ej and let him know what’s going on.

Susan: No, no, no, no, no. You know what? I’ll go to the hospital, all right, but please, please don’t tell ej. Don’t scare him, please.

Marlena: Okay, I won’T.

Ej: Marlena?

Marlena: Ej, hi. I’m here with your mom and she has a bit of an upset stomach and so she wants me to let you know she won’t be able to make it to the party.

Ej: Oh, that’s too bad. Is there anything I can do?

Marlena: No, thanks. I will keep an eye on her.

Ej: Thank you. Give her my love.

Marlena: I will. Bye.

Susan: Did he buy it?

Marlena: He bought it.

Susan: Okay.

Marlena: And now we’re gonna go to the hospital.

Chanel: I better go see what’s keeping johnny.

Paulina: I do. I do. But I wanna tell you something first. I invited your sister, but she can’t make it.

Chanel: Can’t? Or doesn’t want to? Mama, you can tell me the truth.

Paulina: Lani doesn’t wanna come because she doesn’t wanna be around me. It has absolutely nothing to do with you. She loves you. She loves you, baby. It’s just that her not being here–

Lani: We couldn’t get a babysitter tonight, so eli is gonna stay with the kids. But, chanel, congratulations. I am just so happy to be here for you.

Ej: Here you go. I just got word that my mother can’t make it. So everyone’s here except your husband. Any idea when he might deign to join us?

Chanel: What was up with that entrance?

Johnny: Pretty great, right? I assume you got the reference.

Allie: “The shining.” Yeah, we got it. It was a little much, don’t you think?

Chanel: Yeah. I think you kind of freaked everyone out.

Johnny: Well, come on guys. It was a joke. Are those not allowed at wedding receptions? Should I not smile, either?

Chanel: You know I love your smile. But it’s just that, you know, I feel like you’re on a roller coaster. This–this morning you had zero energy. And then a few hours later, you were like a stallion.

Johnny: Well, I thought you rather enjoyed our afternoon romps.

Chanel: You know I do. It’s just that I’m worried that you’re running on fumes.

Johnny: Trust me, I’m fine. I feel like a million bucks.

Paulina: Well, enough with this chitchat now. Let’s get this party started.

Johnny: I’m sorry I’m late. But this place looks amazing, and so do you. It’s gonna be a great party, paulina.

Paulina: Oh, no, no, no, no. You call me mama. Oh, mama price. We’re family now.

Johnny: Well, okay, mama.

[Laughter]

Anna: Attention everyone. The father of the groom has a few words he’d like to say.

Ej: Thank you, anna. Good evening, everyone. Thank you all for joining us tonight to celebrate the marriage of my son johnny and his beautiful bride chanel dupree dimera. Please.

[Applause] Relationships between fathers and sons aren’t always easy, especially in the dimera family. We’re a strong-willed lot. Passionate. Determined. And our convictions about what’s right and what’s wrong can sometimes lead to conflict… it’s no secret that my son and I don’t always see eye to eye on everything. I don’t always agree with his choices. But johnny, you’re a grown man now, fully capable of making your own decisions. And whether or not I agree with them, always know that I will love you with all my heart and I want nothing more than for you to be happy. And it’s also so very clear that you, chanel, make my son very happy. Welcome to the family. Mm, we have someone special to thank for organizing this wonderful party, the mother of the bride. Paulina, please, the floor is yours.

Paulina: Well, as you all know, I’m painfully shy.

[Laughter] Well, okay, obviously that’s not the case. Shy I am not. But just a little– it’s a little overwhelming to see your baby get married. And I’ve had a great, great career and I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished, but I am most proud of my family. And all I’ve ever wanted in my life was for my daughters to be happy and it looks like, thank god, they are now. And I have such confidence in chanel. And more important, she has confidence in herself. And she’s just like her mama, she knows her own mind and it wants johnny. And it’s safe to say that the rest of her does too.

[Laughter] So, young man, it’s all because of you. And let me tell you something, you do your mama price a favor and you keep it that way, okay? Or otherwise, you’re gonna have to answer to me.

Johnny: Ooh, I’m scared.

Paulina: All right, enough of that now. Who’s next? Chanel, right? Then johnny?

Allie: Actually, before they speak, there is something that I would like to say. I’ve lost count of how many asthma attacks I’ve had.

Allie: When johnny and chanel first got back from italy and announced they’d been married, I wasn’t exactly supportive. And I apologized, but I know that it hurt badly. And so I’m here to apologize again, publicly. And let all of you how overjoyed I am that my brother and my best friend have found true love with each other. And I’m so lucky to have them both in my life. To johnny and chanel, I hope that you are happy together forever.

Lani: Um, what she said.

[Laughter] But seriously, chanel, I wish you and johnny a wonderful life together. I am so honored to celebrate you tonight. And I couldn’t be happier to have you as a sister.

[Baby crying]

Tripp: And earlier in the day you felt fine? No dizziness, fever, or nausea?

Susan: No, no sir. But this morning I did have one of my visions.

Marlena: That’s why she contacted me.

Tripp: And is that– is that unusual, having–having a vision?

Susan: No. No. I have them all the time. But this one–this one, it was completely different. I have never experienced anything like this in my life. It was so powerful, I felt it from the tippy, tippy top of my head all the way down to my toes. I haven’t the foggiest idea what it was, but it literally, literally made me sick.

[Eerie music]

Johnny: And now it is my turn. And I’d like to start by paying homage to my nonno. And there he is. The formidable stefano dimera. Whom I loved and revered and miss to this day. He gave me everything a kid could ever want. And he taught me that nothing is more important than family. You know, they say parents and grandparents they shouldn’t pick favorites. He ignored that rule. He let me know, without question, that I was his favorite. His little giovanni. I thought he was the greatest. But then as I got older, I realized some people thought he was a terrible person. Some even said he was evil. I never saw it that way. I saw stefano dimera as a man who knew what he wanted. And he didn’t let anything stand in his way. Well, I don’t consider that evil. I think it’s smart. Something to be admired. It’s taken me a while to figure out what it is that I want, but I finally have. And chanel, I have come to realize it’s not you.

Chanel: What?

Johnny: I’m sorry, chanel. I don’t wanna be married to you anymore.

Paulina: I’m talking about a good old-fashioned wedding bash.

John: All right, dishes are done. Can I get you a refill on that tea?

Marlena: No, honey. It’s cooled down just fine. Thanks.

John: Sure?

Marlena: Yeah.

John: Okay. Comfortable? Maybe an afghan here? How ’bout another pillow, hm?

Marlena: John, I appreciate all you’re doing for me. Really, I do. But I’m–I’m just fine. I’m fine.

[Knock at door]

John: I got it.

Marlena: No, you know what–

John: Doc, come on.

Marlena: I’ll get it. Look, this nightmare is behind us now. The devil is not coming back. I promise you we’re done with all that. I’ll get the door.

John: Hey.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Gwen: What is it that you want to say?

Jennifer: I just want to say I’m so glad that you and jack worked things out. He loves all three of his children so much, and I know how much it means to him to have you in his life.

Gwen: Means a lot to me, too.

Jennifer: I’m sure it does. And listen, I know that it might not be easy, but I was just hoping that maybe you could stay on good terms with abigail.

Gwen: All I can say is that I will try.

Jennifer: I mean, maybe it would be easier if you and I got to know one another. I–I have been gone so long settling my mother’s estate. We never really got to work through what my mother did to you all those years ago. What happened in your room the day she died?

Gwen: Yeah, okay. I get it. All this “getting to know you” business was just setting me up.

Jennifer: Wh–what? I don’t know what you mean.

Gwen: You want to know if I killed your mom.

Ej: Chad, perhaps you’d be good enough to enlighten me. I’m not counting on it, though, since you were the one telling kate to remain silent. Seems you’re going to have to spill the proverbial beans.

Kate: All right. I’ll tell you. It’s about lucas.

Marlena: Johnny, how good to see you.

Johnny: It’s good to see you too.

Marlena: Come in here.

Johnny: Hey, grandpa john.

John: Hey, kid.

Marlena: And to what do we owe the pleasure?

Johnny: Of me being here? I–I had to see how you were doing.

John: See? It’s not just me. Everyone wants to make sure that you’re all right.

Marlena: Thank you. I understand. But if you start waiting on me hand and foot, you’re out of here.

Johnny: Okay, no problem. No problem.

Marlena: You know, I don’t think I’ve seen you since christmas.

Johnny: Yeah. And that wasn’t exactly a fun day.

John: That’s a fact. But it’s a new year, so that horrible ordeal is behind us now.

[Eerie music]

Marlena: Johnny? Is something wrong? (Man 1 vo) I’m living with cll

Xander: Look, I can understand why you don’t like the idea of me and gwen being together.

Abigail: I don’t give a damn about that. What you do in your personal life, none of my business.

Xander: And yet you say that me helping you find sarah is a bad idea. What aren’t you telling me, abigail?

Abigail: [Sighs] Look, I just came from my parents’ house. Gwen was there, and I happened to mention that I was going to be looking into sarah’s disappearance. She accused me of trying to create trouble between the two of you regardless of me trying to convince her that I was actually concerned whether or not my cousin was alive and well. So for whatever reason, she didn’t believe me.

Xander: [Sighs]

Jack: Gwen, jennifer’s not accusing you of doing anything to cause laura’s death.

Gwen: The police questioned me that day. I told them everything that happened.

Jennifer: Yes, but you never told me. I didn’t mean to put you on the defensive. That was not my intention. I just want to hear what you told the police.

Gwen: All right. The truth is that I was in quite a state. When I discovered that your mother had paid off my mother to disappear, that decision completely changed the course of my life. So I was quite displeased when laura showed up at my door. And the truth is, yes, we did argue quite a bit, but laura getting hurt, getting killed… that was an accident. I swear, jennifer, it was an accident. I never intended any harm upon your mother, and I only hope that you can believe me.

Marlena: What just happened? Are you all right?

Johnny: Um, yeah. Yeah, I’m fine, grandma. I’ve just been a little off since I got back from italy. Probably just jet lag.

Marlena: Well, but recovering shouldn’t take that long.

John: You made that trip with your girlfriend, right?

Johnny: I did, yeah. But chanel is not my girlfriend anymore.

John: What?

Johnny: She’s my wife.

John: What?

Marlena: Oh! You’re kidding.

Johnny: No. Yeah, no. We got married while we were in italy.

John: Kid, kind of sudden, isn’t it?

Johnny: You know what? Chanel and I, we really love each other. And yeah, we could’ve waited ’til we got back here, but seemed a lot more romantic to tie the knot in italy, you know?

Marlena: And to the groom, we say congratulations.

Johnny: Thank you, grandma.

John: Well, you know, allie just keeps telling us what a fantastic person chanel is.

Johnny: That’s true.

John: Yeah.

Johnny: I am very lucky to have found her.

[Laughter]

Marlena: I’m so happy for you.

Johnny: Thank you.

Marlena: Oh, my goodness. And I wish you both a lifetime of happiness.

Johnny: I’m sure that we’ll have one. Thank you, guys, for being so great about this.

John: Yeah. I mean, why wouldn’t we be?

Johnny: I don’t know. My parents didn’t exactly have the same reaction, so–

Chanel: You don’t have to throw johnny and me a party.

Paulina: If you think that I’m gonna miss a chance to celebrate my little girl’s marriage, oh, you don’t know me very well.

Chanel: But you’ve already been so generous.

Paulina: Well, I wasn’t at the wedding. Please? Please, let me give the reception?

Chanel: Oh, okay.

Paulina: Oh! We can do it tonight.

Chanel: Tonight?

Paulina: Mm-hmm. No time like the present. Ooh, I think I’ll call johnny’s mother. Oh, maybe she’d like to get in on this.

Chanel: You can’t call sammy.

Paulina: Why not?

Chanel: She left town with allie’s dad.

Paulina: Get out. Ooh. Mm. I still don’t understand your hubby’s family tree.

Chanel: It’s complicated.

Paulina: Well, then I’ll call johnny’s dad.

Chanel: Oh. No, please don’T. He’s got a lot on his plate already.

Paulina: What? What could be more important than celebrating his son’s marriage to a beautiful, charming young woman?

Chanel: Actually he’s facing kidnapping charges.

Ej: This is about lucas?

Kate: Yes, it is. And you’re not going to like it.

Ej: I already know.

Kate: You what?

Chad: What? How?

Ej: From nicole.

Kate: Nicole knows?

Ej: Mm-hmm. Allie told her that lucas and samantha left town together.

Kate: Well, there you go. Chad was just trying to delay the inevitable.

Ej: You thought I’d find this news upsetting?

Chad: Yeah. Am I wrong?

Ej: No. I was not amused to find out that my wife skipped town with an ex-husband. What perplexes me, though, is why you didn’t want me to find out. And don’t tell me that you’re trying to spare my feelings. It’s my 4:05 the-show-must-go-on

Xander: You’re not the one that gwen’s upset with.

Abigail: I sure felt like I was.

Xander: Nah, it’s me. She’s not happy that I’m trying to figure out what happened to sarah, even though I keep telling her that it’s over between me and sarah.

Abigail: And she’s not buying it?

Xander: I told her the same thing you did, but I just want to know sarah’s all right, you know, for maggie’s sake.

Abigail: For maggie. Really?

Xander: Yeah, really. Maggie already lost one daughter this last year. I’d hate to see her go through that again. That’s the only reason I’m looking for sarah.

Abigail: You sure?

Xander: I’m with gwen now, and I’m gonna make her see it.

Abigail: Okay. Well, you’ve got your work cut out for you.

Xander: Well, that’s my problem. Are you gonna let me help you?

Abigail: I suppose I could use someone doing the leg work. I do have a daily paper to get out.

Xander: How do we start?

Abigail: I want to know how she left. I want to know where she went. I mean, apparently maggie said her car is still parked in the kiriakis garage.

Xander: Well, she did have frequent-flyer miles with three different airlines that fly out of the salem airport.

Abigail: How do you know?

Xander: We were planning a honeymoon.

Abigail: Right. Well, we could look at her trip history if we had her username and passwords.

Xander: We do. Right here.

Gwen: Your silence speaks volumes.

Jennifer: No, gwen, please. Please. Please, don’t go. I–I just–I needed just a minute. It’s hard to hear about the end of my mother’s life.

Gwen: Of course.

Jennifer: But I do believe you.

Gwen: Really?

Jennifer: Yeah.

Gwen: Thank you. Thank you.

Jennifer: You don’t have to thank me.

Gwen: Regardless of how i felt about laura, you loved her, and I know that that must have been a hideous way to lose her.

Jennifer: I did love her. I know she wasn’t a perfect person. My mother really struggled with mental illness when I was young, and… there’s something else. Our marriage was really on shaky ground when your mother showed up, and that was really upsetting for my mother. So she told me that she lied to your mother because she wanted jack and i to be happy. But you are not to blame for that. That is no excuse for the way that she treated you, and I am so, so sorry for that.

Chad: I had a very good reason to keep you from finding out about sammy and lucas.

Ej: Really? I’d think you’d be reveling in my unhappiness.

Chad: Personally, sure. I’ll always do what’s best for the company. I mean, the last time sammy cheated on you with lucas, you kidnapped her, so god knows what you’re gonna do next.

Ej: [Chuckles] The problem with your reasoning is that I did not have samantha kidnapped.

Chad: That’s your story and you’re sticking to it?

Ej: I swear to you. I did not do it. And I’m sorry to inform you that the person who did is lucas.

Kate: Lucas? Where the hell is that coming from?

Ej: I don’t have any proof yet.

Chad: Surprise, surprise.

Ej: But I know lucas kidnapped samantha and framed me for it, and now chad is taking advantage of that so he can remain in charge of the company. I advise you to think about something. I gave you your job here. How long do you think it will be before he sacks everyone I hired? If I were you, I wouldn’t let him get away with that.

Marlena: So you had a chance to tell your mom about the elopement?

Johnny: Before she left with lucas? Yeah.

John: And I take it that she wasn’t real happy about that.

Johnny: I hope she and lucas stay gone long enough for her to cool off. Still got to deal with dad, but–

Marlena: So he didn’t congratulate you and welcome your wife into the family?

Johnny: No way. But I mean after what he did to my mom, I could care less what he thinks.

Marlena: You think he kidnapped sammy?

Johnny: You don’t?

Marlena: Well, I would say it looks bad.

Johnny: It looks that way because he did it.

John: Johnny, you know that he’s gonna go to prison if he’s found guilty.

Johnny: Good. Chanel and i don’t have to face him across the breakfast table. I don’t want anything to do with him or his money, and I’m giving back everything he sunk into the movie so he’s got nothing to do with that either.

John: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Back up a second. You’re not still thinking about making that movie, are you?

[Eerie music]

Xander: Nothing.

Abigail: So sarah did not fly from the salem airport.

Xander: Nah, all we really know is that she didn’t use frequent-flyer miles to purchase the ticket.

Abigail: Okay, so she might have still flown from here, or–or she could’ve taken an airport bus out to o’hare.

Xander: Or a train anywhere.

Abigail: But if she paid cash for her ticket, then there’s no way we’re gonna be able to track her.

Xander: There must be a way. She left home. She didn’t use her car.

Abigail: She might have rented one. They would have a record.

Xander: Your family owns a newspaper. Can’t you just get all the passenger lists for that day?

Abigail: Well, I would have to convince them that the public had a right to that information, and I don’t really think I’ll be able to make a case for that.

Xander: Well, maggie has a right, doesn’t she?

Abigail: Okay, um, let’s look at this another way. So the night before the wedding, the night that you left sarah, was there anything off about her at all? Just–just really think hard.

Xander: I mean, she was as happy as I was. Honestly, I just wish that i hadn’t let her talk me into sleeping at the inn that night.

Abigail: Did she just want to keep things traditional?

Xander: No, it was more that, you know, she was just superstitious, didn’t want to tempt fate. She even shooed me out before chloe could deliver the wedding dress. Didn’t want me to see that.

Abigail: Hm. And you’re sure she was telling you the truth about why she wanted to get rid of you?

Xander: I’m sure. And then the next morning she’s just–it was like she was another person.

Abigail: I am at a loss here. Ugh. Well, there is– there’s another way I could track her.

Xander: What? Tell me.

Abigail: I mean, if she happened to charter a private plane, but that just doesn’t sound like sarah.

Xander: No, I agree, but like I say, she was another person that day.

Jennifer: When your mom came here, I was in the kitchen giving abigail supper, and I wonder what would have happened if I would have answered the door instead of my mom.

Gwen: Do you think you would’ve done something differently? You would have invited jack’s bastard child into your home?

Jennifer: I can’t say for sure, but I would really like to believe that I would’ve thought about it rationally and realized that no matter how I thought about jack’s behavior, that you are not to blame in any of this, and I would like to think that we would’ve talked about it and made you a part of our lives, gwen.

Gwen: Well, it’s pretty to think so anyway.

Jennifer: But what I couldn’t do then, I can do right now. And I want you to know when we come back, you are always welcome in this house.

Gwen: Thank you.

Jack: My wife is not in the habit of saying things she doesn’t mean, so we’re gonna be in touch when we get to boston. And if you need anything–

Jennifer: Yes, anything, please let us know. Anything.

Gwen: Yeah, I’ll try. I should go. Um, thank you. Thank you for what you said.

Jack: Bye, sweetheart.

Gwen: Bye, dad.

[Both sniffling]

Ej: You must have some loyalty to me. I ousted jake from this company after he broke your heart.

Kate: You ousted him by one vote. Mine.

Ej: And I rewarded you with a position that allowed you to demonstrate your worth to the company. If you can prove that lucas framed me, I can convince shin to put me back in charge, and your position here will be much more secure than it is at the moment.

Chad: That’s not true. Kate and I, we go way back, don’t we? As long as I’m here, she’ll have a job here.

Kate: Sorry, ej, but I know my son. I know lucas isn’t capable of kidnapping the mother of his children and keeping her imprisoned for months. Chad has no reason to do it, so that just leaves one person who is capable of doing that, and that would be you.

Paulina: Oh. I saw the headlines about ej getting arrested, but I figured it was white collar crime or something.

Chanel: More like dimera payback.

Paulina: Well, what do you think about that, mrs. Dimera?

Chanel: Well, my in-laws aren’t the only dysfunctional family in salem.

Paulina: I’m gonna ignore that remark.

Chanel: I figured you would.

Paulina: [Sighs] Well, both families need to host this party. Now, ej, he’s out on bail, right?

Chanel: Are you forgetting that he didn’t exactly welcome me into his family with open arms?

Paulina: Don’t you worry about that.

Chanel: Oh, yeah. Right.

Paulina: No, I mean it. I’ll get him straight.

Chanel: What did you say?

Paulina: It’s plain to see how johnny feels about you, and ej had better get on board if he doesn’t want to lose his son.

John: Johnny, I just asked you a question. Are you still planning on making that movie?

Johnny: Uh, no. No. There’s no way I would make it now. No.

Marlena: How far had you gone with it?

Johnny: It’s just in the planning stages. Although I did have a deal with a studio to distribute it, but I’ll just tell them I’m shelving the project.

Marlena: I see.

Johnny: Grandma, come on. I told you that I would not make that movie without your blessing, and when you gave it to me, you weren’t exactly you.

Marlena: Yeah. I just hate to see you have to give up on your dreams.

Johnny: Ah, I’ll just find another story to tell. Look, I want you both to know right now, the demonic possession story is officially dead and buried. This is the sound of nature breathing.

Abigail: So if sarah did charter a private plane, it’s going to make her harder to find. Of course, you know, maybe that’s what she wanted.

Xander: Yeah, seems to be. I mean, she did lie to maggie about where she was for a year.

Abigail: Right.

Xander: You know… that airfield where uncle vic keeps the company jet, there’s a bunch of private hangars there. I wonder if the kiriakis pilots know what’s going on with them.

Abigail: Hmm. Dimera uses the same airfield. I could interview both crews.

Xander: You know, some of those other outfits are dodgy.

Abigail: Dodgy how?

Xander: Well, you know, for the right price, some of those pilots will take you wherever you want to go no questions asked.

Abigail: How do you know that?

Xander: Don’t ask.

Abigail: Oh, god. God, I hope sarah did not get mixed up with one of them.

Xander: Yeah, me too. Look, while you talk to the dimera and titan crews, I’ll have a go with the other lot.

Abigail: Okay. Well, I’m gonna head to dimera then, and I’ll talk to the travel department and see what information I can get.

Xander: I’ll get started with the other guys.

Abigail: Great. Okay. Are we done here?

Xander: [Sighs] I just want to say one thing. I know I’m not your favorite person, and you’re only doing this to help maggie and sarah, not me, but I still want to thank you.

Abigail: You don’t have to thank me. All you have to do is help me find sarah.

Jennifer: How’s gwen?

Jack: Stirred up. So am I.

Jennifer: I think it was really good, though, that we cleared the air before we leave.

Jack: You deserve to hear her version of what happened with laura, and you were–you were incredibly decent about it.

Jennifer: The coroner said my mom’s death was an accident, and gwen said the same thing.

Jack: But?

Jennifer: Only my mother and gwen know the absolute truth, and I just have to trust that gwen isn’t hiding something from me.

Jack: It’s getting late. We have one more stop to make.

Jennifer: Yeah. I’m dreading it already, jack.

Paulina: Don’t worry, baby. By the time I’m through with ej dimera, oh, he’ll be as excited about this reception as I am. Now go on. Fix yourself up. Put on your prettiest dress. Oh, you’re going to a party.

Chanel: Look, I know you want it all to work out, but I know ej better than you do. And you may think you got him in line, but he hates the idea of johnny and I being married, and he’s used to getting his way.

Paulina: So am I. And I’ve tangled with the devil. Ugh. And compared to him, ej dimera, he’s a pussycat. How about I give you a ride home?

Chanel: Johnny’s picking me up.

Paulina: Well, text him back you’re coming with me. I’m itching to talk to ej face to face.

Ej: I’m disappointed in you, kate. I don’t know if you’re being mercenary or just stupid. Don’t think for one second I’ll forget this betrayal anytime soon.

Chad: That sounds like a threat.

Ej: How does the saying go? “It’s not a threat. It’s a promise.”

Chad: What’re you doing here? I–I really don’t want to have to call security on you.

Ej: I have the right to remove my personal possessions.

Chad: They’ve been boxed up. They’re waiting for you at the front desk. Oh, wait, except for… this.

Ej: Enjoy that desk while you can, little brother. I’ll be back behind it before you know it.

[Dramatic music]

[ Coughing and sneezing ]

Kate: Well, that could’ve been worse.

Chad: Yeah. You’re telling me. I started freaking out when you started talking about lucas. I thought you were gonna tell him the truth for a minute.

Kate: Yeah, well, I considered it, and then I thought about what ej would do if he found out that you and lucas conspired to frame him.

Chad: You did the right thing.

Kate: I don’t know about that. But I do know one thing.

Chad: What’s that?

Kate: Somewhere out there in the universe, stefano dimera is looking down at you and saying, “that’s my boy.”

[Tense music]

Jack: Well, that was something. Doug’s heart was breaking. He was trying to keep me from seeing that.

Jennifer: Yeah. Even julie held it together as opposed to myself.

Jack: This has been a hell of a day for you.

Jennifer: I just lost track of how much I love this town, jack, and every single person in it.

Jack: Well, come on. This isn’t forever. We’ll get that paper up and running, and we’ll come right back. And boston’s just a three-hour flight away.

Jennifer: Oh, I know. I know. Just– this is my home. And no matter how many times I’ve done it, it is always so hard to say goodbye.

Marlena: I know I’m lucky to have such an understanding grandson.

Johnny: Hey, I’ve got you. I’m the one who’s lucky. And I’m really glad you’re feeling better.

[Phone chimes] Oh. Oh, sorry, I’ve got to run. The wife’s on her way home, so–

John: How does it feel to call chanel your wife?

Johnny: I’m still getting used to it, but I like it.

Marlena: With any luck, you’ll be saying that they rest of your life.

Johnny: Thank you for being happy for me.

Marlena: We are. Mm, darling. Now, if you don’t start feeling better, I want you to promise me you will see a doctor.

Johnny: Grandma, relax. Look, like I said, I’m just a little tired. That’s all.

John: Get some rest, kid.

Gwen: I’m sure that’s what did it, then. So is steve going to look for sarah?

Xander: He can’T. He already took on another big case.

Gwen: Oh. I’m sorry. What’re you gonna do now, then?

Xander: Well, turns out there is another person who wants to find sarah just as much as I do.

Gwen: Let me guess. Would that be my adorable little sister?

Abigail: Hi, this is abigail dimera. I’d like you to pull all of the contact information for the company’s pilots, and I have a question. I– if they decide they’re going to fly for somebody outside of the company, they have to get that cleared, right? Okay. Okay, good. All right. Well, I’ll be down there in a while to pick up whatever you have. Thank you.

[Chuckles]

Chad: Come in.

[Gasps] What a nice surprise.

Abigail: I thought I would drop by and see how your first day without ej was going.

Chad: Well, it wasn’t without ej. He showed up to get his stuff.

Abigail: Oh, how’s that?

Chad: Frosty.

Abigail: [Chuckles]

Chad: But it’s over now.

Abigail: Are you sure you’re not gonna miss having someone share the workload?

Chad: Well, as it turns out, I think I’m gonna be able to count on kate.

Abigail: Hm.

Kate: Oh, no. Who died?

Jack: No one.

Jennifer: Jack and i are heading to the airport to run a local newspaper in boston.

Kate: Well, that’s very–that’s very exciting. Too bad I didn’t get here earlier. We could’ve gotten– I don’t know. All caught up over coffee.

Jennifer: Sorry I missed that.

Kate: [Sighs] Are you still angry over the sad, little fling that jack and I had?

Jack: Kate–

Jennifer: No. Jack, don’T. How could I be angry over something so insignificant?

Kate: Have a nice flight.

Jack: [Sighs] Touché.

Jennifer: Couldn’t help myself.

Ej: Chad got to kate, father. I’m sure of it. They’re all conspiring against me. It seems I have no other choice but to take them all down.

Ej: On what exactly?

Paulina: We’re throwing a wedding reception.

Paulina: Mm-hmm. Johnny and chanel. They never had one.

Ej: Ah, I see. And do you have a particular venue in mind?

Paulina: Yes. This is a family affair, so we’re going to have it right here.

Demon johnny: Stop fighting me, johnny. You and I have so much to do together. Give in to me, and I will make you a star. That’s what you want, isn’t it?

[Chuckles] This is gonna be so much fun!

Chanel: Johnny?

John: Nice of the kid to stop by, wasn’t it?

Marlena: Mm-hmm. That kid is a married man.

John: That bothers you?

Marlena: No, no. It’s just–I don’t know. He just didn’t seem quite like himself today.

Chanel: Johnny? Are you okay?

Johnny: Fine.

Chanel: I hope you mean it because my mom has decided to throw us a wedding reception. Tonight. And I know you haven’t been feeling great, so–

Johnny: Actually, I’m feeling much better.

Johnny: Definitely. And I think that a party in our honor sounds like all the fun in the world.

Xander: There’s no harm done. Actually, matter of fact, can I buy you a beer?

Gwen: You’re working on a story about sarah horton?

Abigail: I just decided. Yeah, aunt maggie hasn’t been able to reach sarah, and she’s starting to think that something might really be wrong, because her phone is no longer in service.

Jennifer: Okay, so that is why xander stopped by steve and kayla’s when we were there.

Jack: Steve had just agreed to take another case, so i assume he’s not gonna be able to help find sarah.

Abigail: Well, then I guess it’s up to me to find her.

Gwen: What? Why on earth would you do that?

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Kate: Well, I’ve seen power change hands here once or twice. I’d advise you not to be too cocky.

Chad: Wait, ej was the one that was cocky. No, I’m not gonna feel guilty for enjoying his downfall. He brought it on himself.

Kate: So, you think that he arranged for sami’s kidnapping?

Chad: Well, I mean, it sure looks that way based on the evidence.

Kate: Yeah, the evidence you found in the company ledgers and promptly brought to shin?

Chad: And I would’ve been negligent if I hadn’T. Ej was using company funds to pay for a personal vendetta.

Kate: Yeah, well, I mean, that just seems so incredibly stupid and, you know, easily traceable. You know, kinda surprising. Added to the fact that the discovery was so conveniently timed.

Chad: Are you accusing me of cooking the books to get ej?

Ej: So, you’re still angry with me?

Nicole: [Chuckles] Why would I be angry? Hm? Just because you unceremoniously dumped me behind my back? Ugh! But you know what? I really don’t wanna get into that right now, because like I said, now is not a good time.

Ej: Because you’re mourning a stuffed animal?

Nicole: At least he had sentimental value.

Ej: [Chuckles] Clearly. After I threw him in the trash, you, what, fished him out?

Nicole: Yeah, I fished him out. And who the hell are you to throw something out that belongs to me?

Ej: The bear was a connection between you and rafe, a connection you said you wanted to break. I thought you meant it.

Nicole: Oh, and I thought you meant it when you said you were done with samantha. But I guess you took her back in, even though she cheated on you. I guess–I guess she does have some redeeming qualities, right? I mean, she’s obnoxious and self-absorbed, and not to mention, she likes to behead stuffed animals.

Ej: [Laughs] You think samantha’s responsible for that?

Nicole: Who else would do something so loony? I’m telling you, that woman is starting to scare the hell out of me.

Ava: I really don’t know why you would think I would destroy a cute little stuffed bear. He never did anything to me.

Rafe: It’s not him. It’s what he represents.

Ava: Which is?

Rafe: My friendship with nicole. You know, you haven’t exactly made it a secret that it bothers you.

Ava: You and nicole keep telling me I don’t have anything to worry about, and I believe you.

Rafe: Okay. Good.

Ava: Although if you think I mutilated poor old duke, then has something changed? Do I have a reason to be jealous?

Rex: Why would you wanna buy me a beer?

Xander: Well, the last time you and I ran into each other, we didn’t get to finish our conversation.

Rex: We did as far as I’m concerned.

Xander: Look, rex, I– I loved sarah, and I still don’t really understand what happened with you two, so…

[Sighs] Come on, it’s one beer. What could be the harm?

Abigail: Sarah’s my cousin, gwen. She’s family. Why shouldn’t I help find her?

Gwen: [Sighs] I mean, you’re–you’re a reporter, you’re not a private detective.

Abigail: Well, I can draw attention to the fact that nobody knows where sarah is, not even her own mother.

Gwen: She’s a grown woman, right? She’s a doctor, isn’t she? I mean, she said to rex that– that she–she wanted to have time to work on herself. Obviously that means that she wanted to have that time to work alone.

Abigail: Gwen, that was almost a year ago.

Gwen: Yeah, but, you know, when you’re having a difficult time, you don’t wanna tell your mum all the details, do you? Why imagine the worst?

Abigail: I promised aunt maggie that I would try to find out where sarah is, and I intend to live up to that promise.

Gwen: Oh, please, that is not what this is about, and you know it. You were just trying to get back at me.

Rafe: Ava, you have nothing to worry about. Nicole and I, we’re just– we’re old friends. That’s all.

Ava: Okay, so, why corner me about the bear?

Rafe: Listen, you said that you were going to basic black the other day to see nicole.

Ava: To invite her over for new year’s eve. And when I got there, she was out, so I left, without laying a hand on the bear.

Rafe: Okay, okay, fine. I’m sorry, all right. It’s just, uh, I’m a cop. You had means, opportunity.

Ava: But no motive. Nicole has been a really good friend to me, and you are the man that I love. I would never do anything to hurt either one of you. And I know that neither one of you would do anything to hurt me.

Ej: Believe me, I know samantha can be vindictive. I just can’t imagine her taking her revenge on a stuffed animal.

Nicole: Well, sami doesn’t want me to forget how much she hates me.

Ej: I think she conveys that rather clearly with her words.

Nicole: [Scoffs] Okay, you don’t wanna take me seriously, fine, but don’t come crying to me when you find a horse’s head in your bed some night.

Ej: If you really think samantha did this, I’ll just ask her.

Nicole: [Chuckles]

Ej: [Clears throat] As soon as we’re on speaking terms again.

Nicole: Well, that won’t be for a while. Sami left town.

Ej: Excuse me?

Nicole: Oh, you didn’t know? Sami packed up and rode off into the sunset with lucas by her side.

Kate: I mean, ej’s a lot of things, but he’s very rarely careless. I find it very hard to believe that he would leave a paper trail for you to follow.

Chad: Well, kate, it’s not like the, uh–it’s not like the payments were in a file labeled “samantha’s kidnapping,” right? There was a–a fair amount of digging that was involved.

Kate: Uh-huh. So what prompted that digging?

Chad: Well, uh, the kidnapper told the cops that–that, uh, ej was the mastermind, so, for the sake of the company, I decided to find out if it was true. I wasn’t gonna let him take all of us down with him.

Kate: I see. Well, I mean, that makes sense, you know. [Chuckles] But I don’t believe it. So why don’t you just tell me the truth? You planted the evidence, didn’t you?

Abigail: Gwen. [Scoffs] I wanna find my cousin, okay? This has nothing to do with you.

Gwen: But it has everything to do with xander, okay? The man that I love. Now, he was hurt terribly by sarah, and all of this is just gonna stir up all those memories again.

Jack: Wait a minute, let me see if I hear you correctly. You are saying that abigail should forget that sarah’s missing and make no effort to help locate her, because you’re thinking that it’ll make it easier for xander?

Gwen: Yes, he’s gonna have to read about it in the paper, in “the spectator” every day, and what good is that gonna do? It’s just a local paper anyway.

Abigail: A big story like that could get picked up by a chicago paper.

Jack: Or the wire service!

Gwen: What big story? Come on. Sarah decided at the last minute that she did not want to marry xander.

Abigail: And that’s the reason that he’s with you now.

Gwen: How dare you?

Abigail: That’s why you don’t want sarah to be found.

Gwen: Oh, my god. Do you hear that? Do you hear that? She’s out to get me.

Abigail: Ugh, you always think that I’m the source of all your problems.

Gwen: Because you are always trying to undermine me. You are always trying to keep me from the people that I love. You first did it with our father…

Jack: That is not true!

Gwen: And now you’re doing it with xander, and I will be damned if I let you succeed.

Rex: And when sarah and i met up to go to the airport, she dumped me, just like I told you before.

Xander: Do you remember her exact words?

Rex: She said that she realized that she was not prepared to spend the rest of her life with any man, that she just needed some time to figure out what she did want.

Xander: I mean, it just doesn’t make any sense. All right, the night I left sarah before the wedding, we were so happy. We couldn’t wait to get married. And then she torpedoed all of that to be with you. And then what? The next day she does another 180? I mean, that’s not the sarah I know.

Rex: I don’t– I don’t understand it either. But I’ll tell you this, she had her mind made up. She basically warned me not to come looking for her.

Xander: This whole situation is…

Rex: Bizarre?

Xander: Right? Especially when you factor in the whole kristen, susan bit.

Rex: What are you talking about?

Xander: [Sighs]

Rafe: Why don’t we just go on home, okay?

Ava: Okay, you know what? I think that you owe me an apology first, ’cause I am offended that you would think that I would do something so deranged.

Rafe: Okay. Okay, you’re right. All right, I’m sorry, okay? I am sorry that, uh, I was suspicious of you.

Ava: Thank you.

Rafe: You know what? For whatever it’s worth, nicole thinks it’s sami that did it, and she’s probably right.

Ava: Huh. You know, now that you mention it, I did see a bottle blonde getting onto the elevator as I was leaving. I didn’t get a close look, but I suppose it could’ve been sami.

Rafe: Oh, yeah? Do you remember what time it was?

Ava: No. Why do you ask?

Rafe: ‘Cause there’s security cameras all over that building, so maybe I can get a closer look at, uh, whatever you saw.

Ej: Samantha… and lucas?

[Scoffs] You must be joking.

Nicole: Rafe heard it from allie. And she said that sami decided that she wants to be with lucas. You know, her first love. So they left town so they could be alone together.

Ej: I–I can’t believe this. I–I mean, I knew samantha was upset with me, but to go running back to lucas?

Nicole: Oh, yeah. It kinda reminds me of– of our situation, you know, you running back to sami. The only difference is I really don’t care. In fact, I’m relieved to be rid of you.

Ej: It’s insane.

Nicole: That I’m relieved to be rid of you?

Ej: That samantha went back to lucas. He was the one who had had her kidnapped.

Nicole: According to the police, that would be you.

Ej: You said you believed me.

Nicole: I also believed you when you said that you were done with sami and you wanted to be with me, but, what– what the hell do I know, right?

Ej: I did not have samantha kidnapped. It was lucas. That little weasel set me up.

Nicole: You got any proof?

Ej: No, but I–

Nicole: No, no, yeah. Well, I guess the evidence is piling up. And the dimera board thinks so too now that you’re out of a job.

Ej: [Chuckles] The latest so-called evidence is nothing but a pack of lies that were manufactured by my own brother.

Chad: I had no reason to plant the evidence. Really?

Kate: Hm.

Chad: Kate, you think that I’m that vindictive?

Kate: [Laughs] Well, I mean, I do know that you were very bothered by the fact that ej was able to worm his way into johnny’s movie, which meant that he would’ve been having sex scenes with abigail.

Chad: Yeah, and he did that to get under my skin.

Kate: It worked. So, framing ej would be perfect payback.

Chad: Yep, you are right. After everything ej has done, I would be completely justified in planting the evidence against him. But I didn’T. So, maybe this conversation should just be over then.

Kate: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. This is a very dangerous game that you’re playing, because if ej can prove what you’ve done–

Chad: He can’t, because I didn’t!

Kate: [Sighs] I want you to swear on your father’s grave that you’re telling me the truth. Oh! I knew it. I knew it.

Chad: Okay, you know what? Yeah, fine, you know what? Yeah, the evidence was planted. But guess what, it wasn’t by me. It was by lucas. That’s right, it was your son. -We are here! -For new homeowners,

Jack: Gwen? Gwen? Would you please calm down? Abigail is not trying to come between you and xander.

Gwen: God, you’re taking her side. Why am I not surprised?

Jack: I’m not taking anyone’s side. This is a bad situation. We’re very worried that something terrible might have happened to sarah.

Abigail: I swear to you, I am only looking into sarah’s disappearance because I’m genuinely worried about her.

Ava: And if it wasn’t for the two of us, right, she’d be in statesville right now. She’s not gonna double-cross us.

Gwen: I helped her escape, because she said to me that if I didn’t, she would go and tell xander where sarah is. If she finds her–

Ava: Okay, I’m telling you, no one is gonna find her, okay? You don’t need to worry.

Abigail: I–I–I think I should go now, so…

Jennifer: Uh…

Jack: Um…

Abigail: That little paper in boston is so lucky to be getting the two of you. I hope you have a wonderful time. Make it successful again. And just remember your promise that you’re both coming back here soon?

Jennifer: Absolutely, baby.

Jack: Absolutely, and you tell the kids again how much we love them, and please bring them out to see us.

Abigail: Of course, yeah, as soon as you get settled, so…

Jennifer: I love you so much, baby.

Abigail: I love you too.

Jack: Goodbye, sweetheart.

Abigail: Dad, see ya.

Jack: Love you.

Abigail: Sorry.

Jack: It’s all right.

Jennifer: Um, I’m gonna walk you out.

Jack: Okay.

[Sighs] Gwen? Gwen? What’s really going on here? Why are you so afraid that you’re gonna lose xander?

Xander: And while kristen was pretending to be susan, she tipped me off about you and sarah being in bed together.

Rex: Wait, so you didn’t know you were hearing it from kristen?

Xander: Yeah, not until susan told me a few weeks ago. I went straight to the police to have it out with kristen. I had to know if she had something to do with sarah leaving me.

Rex: Well, what did she say?

Xander: That she didn’T. That she only did it for the pure satisfaction of being the one to break the bad news to me.

Rex: That would be kristen.

Xander: I can’t believe i fell for her act.

Rex: Hm. She’s creative, I’ll give her that. You know, the dimera’s have this secret deserted island that they use to get rid of people permanently. Kristen was planning on shipping my mother off there.

Xander: What, she thought kate’s family wouldn’t notice that she was gone?

Rex: No, no, she had that covered too. She had this–this mask that made her look exactly like my mom. She wore my mom’s clothes. She showed up here to break up with jake dimera loudly. My dad was telling me that she wanted everyone in here to– to hear her say, “I’m through with jake, I’m through with salem, and I’m–I’m leaving town.”

Xander: So, the story would get around, and no one would ask any questions about where kate was, at least for a while?

Rex: Yep. It’s a nifty way to get rid of someone who figures out what you’re up to. You’re lucky it didn’t happen to you.

Kate: Nope, nope. Lucas wouldn’t do that, not even to ej.

Chad: Yep, I caught him red-handed. I walked in, and he was sitting at that computer.

Kate: He doesn’t have a password, chad.

Chad: He had yours, kate.

Kate: Ugh! Oh, my god.

Chad: Yep. He was the one that made it look like ej was using company funds to pay off sami’s kidnapper.

Kate: Are you sure?

Chad: I am positive. I confronted him. He said that it would be in both of our best interests if we let ej take the fall.

Kate: Oh, my god, so, he wanted ej out of the way so he’d have a chance with sami?

Chad: Mm-hmm.

Kate: Which actually worked, because sami turned her back on ej, and lucas and sami left salem this morning. I–

[Sighs] Oh, my god. But what I don’t get is why would lucas go through all the trouble of framing ej? I mean, they pressed charges against ej already for the kidnapping.

Chad: Well, he was charged, but I don’t think he’s guilty.

Kate: Okay, what does that mean?

Chad: It means that I’m pretty sure that the kidnapper was lucas.

Nicole: So, chad actually framed you, huh?

Ej: Do you honestly believe I’d be sloppy enough to leave a paper trail?

Nicole: No.

Ej: Chad concocted those payments to samantha’s kidnapper, so he could put the final nail in my coffin. He’s always wanted to run the company on his own. But he knew shin would never get rid of me.

Nicole: So, in your version of events, lucas kidnapped sami. Then why did the hired goon point the finger at you?

Ej: On lucas’s orders, I’m sure.

Nicole: And chad phonied up evidence to make you look guiltier?

[Chuckles] That is some conspiracy theory.

Ej: I’m telling you, I’m innocent. I didn’t have samantha kidnapped, so therefore I’d have no reason to make those payments.

Nicole: I don’t care…

Ej: [Scoffs]

Nicole: Okay? ‘Cause it’s over between us, both personally and professionally, and now that you’re out at dimera, I suggest you leave before I have you thrown out.

Ej: Not until I do what I came here to do.

Nicole: [Sighs] I shudder at what that would be.

Ej: I have to tell you how sorry I am for hurting you. I’m praying that you’ll find it in your heart to forgive me.

Ava: Sorry, rafe, I was– I was just rushing around. I have no idea what time I left nicole’s office.

Rafe: That’s okay. It’s fine. Actually, you know, all I have to do is look at the footage from the one camera that covers the elevator, and I’ll just– I’ll scroll through the last 24 hours.

Ava: Are you seriously gonna go to all that trouble over a stuffed bear?

Rafe: It could have been someone sending a message to nicole.

Ava: You just said yourself that it was probably sami, so, what are you gonna do if you see her on those tapes? Are you gonna arrest her?

Rafe: No, I’m not–no, I’m not gonna arrest her. I’m not gonna do anything, because she left town this morning.

Ava: Oh, well, then you better call the isa, because the stuffed bear killer is on the loose.

Rafe: Okay, I overreacted, all right? But cutting up that bear, it’s a little juvenile and petty, even for sami.

Ava: Excuse me? Nicole slept with sami’s husband.

Rafe: Estranged husband.

Ava: I don’t care. I mean, if you ask me, nicole is lucky sami didn’t do much worse.

[Tense music]

Rex: Well, look, I have a flight to catch, and I haven’t even packed yet.

Xander: Going back to chicago?

Rex: Yes, my doctors without borders tour is over.

Xander: I just wanna thank you for making the time to talk to me. Wasn’t that bad, right?

Rex: Beer makes you easier to take.

Xander: Rex? If you hear from her, will you let me know?

Rex: I will. You do the same?

Xander: Deal.

Rex: I hope you find sarah. You deserve to get some answers.

Xander: [Sighs]

Gwen: I was awful to abigail.

Jack: Yeah. Yeah, you were.

Gwen: It’s just that… I have never, ever loved anyone the way that I love xander. And nobody has ever had my back the way that he does. And, well, he makes me laugh, which is why I’m so scared of– I’m so scared of losing him.

Jack: Why? Why is that? I mean, it seems like the two of you have a really good thing going.

Gwen: He told me how much he loved sarah. He told me all about her. And if she were to come back into the picture–

Jack: Whoa, whoa, wait a minute, wait–there is something really important that you need to remember. Sarah dumped xander on the morning of their wedding, and when she did it, she told him the reason was because she realized that she could never forgive him for switching her baby with kristen’S. And you need to understand that even if sarah does come back, that’s not the sort of thing you can just forget. Why don’t you just calm down and believe that everything’s gonna work out just fine? You have nothing to worry about.

Kate: You think lucas had sami kidnapped? Lucas?

Chad: Yes, lucas. He basically admitted it.

Kate: [Stammers] Why? Why would–why?

Chad: Why? To keep sami away from ej. What do you think? You know–you know how much lucas loves sami, and love makes you do really crazy stuff.

Kate: No, no, no, no, no, no, I–no, I–no. I don’t believe it.

Chad: Look, I know that it’s hard right now, especially after what happened with philip.

Kate: What do you mean by that?

Chad: Well, you know, one son went missing, and then the other one kidnapped his ex-wife. So, must be a very hard time for you.

Kate: It is a hard time for me, because this means that I’ve failed two sons.

Chad: Well, I mean… I’m not gonna tell anybody. So, the truth never has to come out.

Kate: Yeah, well, maybe it should.

Nicole: Thank you for your apology. But as far as me forgiving you, that’s gonna be a hard no.

Ej: I know I made a mistake.

Nicole: Oh, a mistake? You humiliated me in front of sami, and you let her prance around and gloat that you chose her over me again.

Ej: Everything was happening so fast.

Nicole: Oh, okay. Sami said that you ripped up the divorce papers before you were arrested. Was she lying?

Ej: No, I–

Nicole: No, no. Okay, do you remember christmas day? Remember me taking time away from my daughter to come see you in jail? Do you remember the very long conversation we had about, “who could possibly have railroaded you”? And do you remember in that conversation, we were talking about sami being kidnapped, and it didn’t occur to you to tell me that you weren’t gonna get a divorce?

Ej: I was focused on proving my innocence.

Nicole: Oh, and you couldn’t stop thinking about yourself long enough to tell me that you were gonna work it out with your wife?

Ej: I realize now that was wrong of me.

Nicole: Congratulations. I know. I know why you kept your mouth shut about sami. Just in case she dumped you. Well, she did. And now you’ve come crawling back to me. Well, I am sorry to disappoint you, because I sure as hell will not be your consolation prize. Hi susan! Honey?

Jack: Let’s not forget that xander found sarah in bed with rex on the morning of what was supposed to be their wedding, and she told him she wanted him out of her life. Why would he want her back now?

Gwen: Why wouldn’t he?

Jack: [Laughs] Because he cares deeply for you. He covered for you when that whole mess came up about the drug running.

Gwen: He did that for you. He did, he–he–he wanted you to think well of me.

Jack: You don’t know that.

Gwen: Yes, I do. He told me.

Jack: That man was ready to go back to prison for you. For you. He wouldn’t give up his freedom for some girl he cares nothing about. I know him. I know how deeply he loves you. There’s nothing in the world, not even sarah, that’s gonna change that.

Ava: Oh, hey, did you get a warrant for sami brady’s arrest?

Rafe: No, I resisted that temptation.

Ava: Mm? Well, you were gone a long time.

Rafe: Yeah, well, I was getting you this.

Ava: [Chuckles] You already apologized.

Rafe: I did. I just wanted you to know I’m really sorry. I jumped all over you, and I made you feel like I didn’t trust you.

Ava: Yeah, well, most people don’t trust me, so, I’m used to it.

Rafe: Sorry, it’s just, uh, someone breaking into nicole’s office and destroying her personal property just made me uneasy.

Ava: Well, I wouldn’t worry about nicole too much. That’s one woman who knows how to take care of herself.

Ej: I–I should’ve told you I was thinking of reconciling with samantha. It was disrespectful and dishonest.

Nicole: And don’t forget cowardly and craven.

Ej: Hm. The whole thing was a major lapse in judgment. I–I never should have torn up those divorce papers. I shouldn’t have even entertained the thought of getting back together with her.

Nicole: [Scoffs]

Ej: But it did accomplish one thing. It made me realize that you’re the one I truly want.

Nicole: [Chuckles] Oh, yeah. Because sami dumped you for lucas.

Ej: I don’t want you because samantha is with him. I want you because you’re an extraordinary woman.

Nicole: Oh, please, would you just stop it? Please just stop. Do you know how many times I have heard that? Oh, sure, sure, you want me right now, but ultimately you will choose sami. Eric wanted me, but ultimately he chooses god. And rafe! Rafe wants me too, but you know what? In the end, he’s choosing ava. Do you know how sick and tired I am of men wanting it both ways? When is someone gonna put me first?

Ej: Nicole–

Nicole: You know what, no, just, mm–just leave, okay?

Ej: No, I think we should talk about this.

Nicole: I don’t want to talk about it. I’m calling security.

Ej: Please don’t do that. Please.

Nicole: Fine. You stay. I’ll leave.

Kate: I mean, of course I don’t wanna betray lucas. I mean, that is the last thing I wanna do. But to frame ej? I mean, he didn’t do this.

Chad: Okay, look, lucas finally has everything that he’s wanted for so long. He has sami back. Yet if you take that away from him, he is never gonna forgive you. I mean, ever. And more importantly, you’re probably gonna be sending him to prison, or bayview if–if he plans on, you know, pleading temporary insanity. Would you really do that to your own son?

Kate: No! Of course I wouldn’T.

Chad: Okay.

Kate: I mean, really? The point is are we gonna send ej to prison for something he didn’t do? I mean, actually he doesn’t deserve that.

Chad: Look, sure, ej may not have kidnapped sami, but it’s not like he is some noble, wonderful guy. I mean, you know damn well that he’s ruthless and corrupt, and he’s caused a lot of pain to a lot of people. You think lucas is– is a good guy, right? I mean, sure, he went off the rails a little bit with this whole kidnapping thing, but he did it for love. He’s a–he’s a devoted father and a loving son. I mean…

Kate: [Sighs]

Chad: Or do you disagree?

Kate: No, I don’t disagree.

Chad: Okay, then. But, kate, please, keep what I told you a secret. Can you do that? Woman: I have moderate to severe plaque psoriasis.

Rafe: So can we get past this? Can you forgive me for acting like a jerk?

Ava: [Chuckles] No, I can’T. You can take your apology and shove it!

[Dramatic music]

Rafe: Ava? Ava, did you hear me? Do you forgive me?

Ava: Yes, of course I forgive you.

[Both chuckle]

Rafe: Aww.

[Soft tense music]

Jennifer: Is everything okay in here?

Gwen: [Clears throat] Yes, um, I just wanted to say that I’m sorry for how I– I treated abigail. I’m– I know today has been a very difficult day for the three of you, and I’ve made it a lot harder.

Jack: If you need anything, you need me to stick around? Put off the flight to boston.

Jennifer: Yeah, we can.

Gwen: No, you don’t need to do that. And I promise I will stay out of abigail’s way.

Jack: If you need anything, call me.

Gwen: Thanks, jack.

Jack: You can call me dad.

Gwen: [Chuckles] Thanks, dad.

Abigail: Right, yeah, I am.

Xander: I wanna help.

Abigail: You know, I was gonna call you, actually. I’m hoping that you’ll tell me everything you remember about the day that sarah left town.

Xander: I was just talking to rex about that day. He was probably the last person to see her.

Abigail: Tell me everything that you know.

Xander: [Sighs]

Kate: If I keep lucas’s secret, and roman finds out that I let sami leave town with her kidnapper, he’s never gonna forgive me.

Chad: Whoa, okay, first of all, you keep calling lucas her kidnapper. You–you know as well as I do that–that lucas would never hurt sami. I mean, he’s crazy about her. And secondly, you know, you’re worried about roman finding out the truth, so, you’re gonna choose your own happiness over your own son, your own blood?

Kate: That’s not fair at all. I’m thinking of lucas too, chad.

Chad: Yeah? How?

Kate: How? Lucas kidnapped sami. He kept her a prisoner for a long time. That’s not like him. He might need professional help.

Chad: Well, you know, he didn’t seem unbalanced at all when I talked to him.

Kate: [Sighs]

Chad: You–you know as well as I do that sami’s in a sick relationship with ej, so, in my opinion, just in my opinion, I think he did what it–what it took to break ej’s hold on sami, you know, because he loves her so much. So if roman finds out, you just– you just tell him that. The best thing that you can do for lucas is just pretend that we never had this conversation.

Kate: Really? I don’t think I can keep quiet about this.

Ej: Keep quiet about what? I’d be very interested to know.

Rafe: Ava?

Jennifer: You’re not talking very much. Are you having second thoughts?

Jack: I have been thinking… and I’ve decided that our baby will be in good hands with our other baby.

Jennifer: I agree. I agree, jack.

Abigail: Psst. Happy new year, aunt maggie.

Maggie: Oh, it is so good to see you. Happy new year to you too, my darling.

Abigail: I hope it’s okay I came over here this early on a holiday.

Maggie: Oh, you know you’re always welcome here, but I did wonder you wanted to talk to me. You sounded pretty urgent on the phone.

Abigail: Yeah, I just wanted to tell you about a story we’re working on that’s a little sensitive.

Maggie: Oh, okay.

Abigail: It’s about philip’s disappearance. The paper decided they wanted to focus on that, and I just wanted to give you and victor a heads-up.

Maggie: I see. I see. Well, I’m glad you told me that.

Abigail: And I want to let you to know that if we do find out anything, anything that could upset victor, that I will let you know. That way he doesn’t have to read about it in the paper.

Maggie: That’s very thoughtful of you. Let me ask you something, okay? While you’re out trying to find out what happened to philip, would you help me find sarah?

Gwen: Bloody…what?

Xander: I know.

Gwen: Know what?

Xander: That you played dumb. It’s over. I know where sarah is. She’s been there for months, and you knew about it all along.

Gwen: I can explain.

Xander: Explain what? How you kept your mouth shut while the woman I love, the woman you know that I love is out there somewhere being terrorized by a sociopath?

Gwen: Xander, no, wait…no.

Xander: And you also knew that sarah never betrayed me with rex. No, that was that lunatic kristen who orchestrated that, and she told you all about it. Didn’t she? Didn’t she?

Gwen: Yes.

Xander: You decided i didn’t need to know about that. It didn’t fit in with your plans for me to know about that, did it?

Gwen: Please, please, you have to hear my side of things. Kristen threatened me, and I– I just loved you. I loved you so much, and i thought that you loved me too.

Xander: That was before I knew who you were, what you were, I mean. My god, no wonder your own father doesn’t want anything to do with you. I thought I was a bad person. I want you out of this room today.

Gwen: Where are you going?

Xander: Where the hell do you think I’m going? To find sarah.

Rafe: You seemed upset when I came in; is everything okay?

Ava: Yeah. We’re out of espresso, I had to settle for a regular.

Rae: I can go to the store and get more.

Ava: It’s a holiday.

Rafe: Right. It’s just that the look on your face seemed more intense than, “I don’t like this coffee,” so you sure there’s not something else?

Ava: Don’t you know by now I overreact to most things? So what are we gonna do today? Should we do something with gabi and jake?

Rafe: You’re voluntarily offering to spend time with my sister?

Ava: It’s the holidays; we are supposed to spend time with family. Okay, we can invite over tripp and allie and henry, maybe nicole and holly.

Rafe: Do you know what? Actually, I was hoping that you and i could just spend time together alone for once, you know, watch the parades, maybe you can condescend to me while I watch football.

Ava: [Chuckles] Sounds wonderful.

Rafe: Okay.

[Phone rings]

Ava: It’s nicole.

Rafe: Yeah. I’ll call her back later.

Ava: No, you should get it. It’s a holiday. She wouldn’t call you if it wasn’t important.

Rafe: Okay. Nicole, what’s up?

Nicole: Oh, rafe, I need you to come over to basic black. It’s an emergency.

Rafe: Uh…all right. Well, I’ll be right there. Yeah. She says it’s an emergency.

Ava: Oh. Well, then you better go.

Rafe: You sure?

Ava: Yeah, of course. Go. Go, go. We can–we can catch up later.

Abigail: So xander told you that rex and sarah left salem but not together. And they’ve not been together since they left?

Maggie: Right. And now her phone is out of service.

Abigail: Okay. Well, have you gone to the police with any of this?

Maggie: Yeah, I called shawn.

Abigail: And?

Maggie: Well, he said that since sarah left town on her own free will and that since she has contacted me that it would be really hard to classify her as a missing person.

Abigail: Right. Okay. And I imagine everything that’s going on with marlena and brady and philip that the salem pd is probably pretty swamped.

Maggie: Yeah, that’s exactly what he said. So that’s why I’m turning to you. Abigail, I’m worried. I’m really–I’m beyond worried. I’m just– I’m very frustrated that there is something very wrong. So if you and your paper could help me try to find sarah…

Abigail: Of course I can. I will do everything that I possibly can.

Maggie: Oh, well, that’s a relief. Bless you, sweetheart. And if there’s anything I can do, any questions that I can answer, I mean, if I can help you in any way in your search…

Abigail: Right. I think–I think right now the first thing I need to know is just when was the last time that you actually did hear from sarah?

Maggie: [Sighs]

Gwen: No. Sometimes I dream that I’m a little girl again. It’s not surprising I had that dream last night. Life wasn’t always great for me, but holidays were really awful.

Xander: I’m so sorry.

Abigail: No, don’t be. All I have to do is just wake up next to you, and I know that that’s all in the past and that I won’t be alone again.

Xander: Well, at least not for more than a couple of hours.

Gwen: Well, where are you going? We have all morning.

Xander: I’m sorry, but I have to go and see your uncle steve.

Gwen: On new year’s morning? Why?

Xander: I’m gonna hire him to find sarah.

Kayla: Oh, you have everything you need?

Steve: Yeah. I think so. I’m sorry, baby. This isn’t the way I wanted to start the new year.

Kayla: You can’t put it off even a couple days?

Steve: No, I’m afraid kristen might have too much of a head start already.

Kayla: You know, it’s been hammered home again and again that there’s nothing that kristen wouldn’t stoop to.

Steve: Yeah?

Kayla: But I think in her sick, weird way she really loves brady. And he is rachel’s father. I just have a hard time thinking that she would frame him for philip’s murder.

Steve: Well, maybe she has some twisted reason we are not aware of.

Kayla: And what reason would that be?

Steve: [Sighs] You know how stefano was always banging on about chess? “The move behind the move behind the move.” Maybe kristen’s making some kind of chess move.

[Doorbell rings] Hey.

Jennifer: Hi.

Kayla: So good to see you.

Jennifer: Oh, my goodness. How are you guys? Oh, wait, I hope we’re not too early.

Steve: No, no, actually, you’re just in time, because I’m on my way out of town on a work trip.

Jack: Well, that’s a coincidence, because we’re leaving salem too. This is the sound of nature breathing.

Rafe: Damn it, nicole. This better be good. What happened?

Nicole: That happened.

Ava: Happy new year, nicole. Oh, what a surprise. “Oh, my little bear has a boo-boo. I need you, rafe.” Yeah, didn’t see that one coming. Oh, and in other news, rafe goes flying to her side. Wonder if he’ll be able to find a way to comfort her. Bet they’re on that conference table as we speak.

[Knock at door] Just a minute.

Gwen: Thank god you’re here. Who were you talking to?

Ava: The gods of vengeance. What are you doing here? We can’t be seen together.

Gwen: I know; I had to come. You’re the only one who can help me.

Abigail: And so there’s nothing after this last text?

Maggie: No. I’ve left messages but nothing.

Abigail: Hmm. Could you forward these texts to me?

Maggie: Yes. Of course. See, what I– what I don’t understand is, if sarah didn’t leave town with rex, why didn’t she tell me that? It doesn’t make any sense. Sarah’s always told me everything. Well, almost; we’re very close.

Abigail: I know that. So I think I’m gonna try to get sarah’s phone records so I can find out who else she has been in contact with.

Maggie: But you’re still gonna keep looking for philip, because I’m also terribly worried about victor.

Abigail: That’s so you. Here you’re going through the same thing he is, and you’re worried about him.

Maggie: Well, for all of his blustery, he’s just not as strong as I am.

Abigail: I don’t think many people are.

Maggie: Oh. Thank you.

Abigail: Although I do hope– I hope I’ve got just a little bit of your strength, I think I’m gonna need it.

Maggie: Really?

Abigail: Oh, yeah, I’m running the whole paper now.

Maggie: Well, that’s wonderful. You’re gonna do a great job. But what about your dad?

Abigail: Well, actually, he and my mom have other plans.

Kayla: So tell us more about this boston newspaper?

Jennifer: Well, I started reading it while I was there with mike settling my mom’s estate, and I mean, it’s just a small, you know, local, old-fashioned newspaper just dedicated to local news. But apparently, it is going to go under if we don’t take it over.

Kayla: So there’s an urgency to this? You need to save the paper.

Jennifer: Yeah, definitely. And I mean the owners are relieved, not that we’re just taking it over, but that we’re going to keep it exactly the same. We’re not gonna slash the staff, we’re just gonna– just kind of beef up their tech and social media. I mean, it’s gonna be complicated for sure, but…

Jack: Yeah, I mean, small newspapers are challenged all over the country. So we just figured let abigail take care of the “spectator,” and we’ll have a new mission.

Kayla: So you’re moving.

Jennifer: Well, no, no, no, not permanently.

Jack: No.

Jennifer: We’re gonna come right back as soon as we have it going on its feet.

Jack: Right.

Steve: Good.

Kayla: Because we’ll all miss you so much. But I’m impressed. I’m so impressed as always with what you’re doing.

[Knock at door]

Jack: Oh. Hey, let me get that. Oh, xander. How did you know I was here?

Xander: I wasn’t looking for you, jack. I need to talk to steve.

Maggie: Well, I am gonna miss your folks, but the paper’s in good hands. Listen, if you don’t have time to look for sarah.

Abigail: I will make time, okay? And I’m gonna talk to xander. I understand he wasn’t real happy with her when she left.

Maggie: Well, honestly, xander’s the one who came to me. He’s very worried about sarah. But he’s moved on with someone else.

Abigail: Yeah, gwen. I know. You know, any port in a storm.

Maggie: Yeah, well, I think it’s more than that. He seems pretty serious about her.

Abigail: Well, if that’s true, god help him.

Xander: I’m sorry to interrupt, steve, but can I talk to you alone for a minute?

Jennifer: You know, actually, we’re heading out. We’re gonna meet abigail at the house before we go to the airport.

Jack: Yeah.

Xander: You’re going on a trip?

Jack: Oh, well, we bought a newspaper in boston, and we’ll be there for a while.

Xander: Leaving town? Does gwen know? Oh, wait, I know that she doesn’t know. Would you like me to tell her for you?

Jack: No.

Xander: So what, have a nice life?

Jack: Well, you have a nice life too, xander. I–look, I mean it. I mean, it. I really do hope things work out for you.

Jennifer: He really does mean it. Gwen has not made it easy for jack to have a relationship with her. He’s not the villain here.

Xander: You’re right. I–so one more time, do have a nice life. I’ll never forget that you were my mate when I really needed one.

Jennifer: Oh, gosh, now we gotta do this before I start crying.

Jack: Hey, listen, come to boston, world-class orchestra, you know, the symphony.

Steve: I can’t wait.

Ava: No. His bitch of a sister isn’t around, and rafe has been summoned by his sidepiece.

Gwen: What?

Ava: Yes. He’s probably on the conference room table with her right now.

Gwen: He’s having an affair?

Ava: Yes. And today I have provided him with his cover story. She called him to show him the dead body that I left in her office.

Rafe: This is sick. Oh, my god. Who– who the hell would do such a thing?

Nicole: You and i both know exactly who did this. My nunormal?

Rafe: She should be on her knees grateful for what you did.

Ava: Yep. Rafe and nicole share custody of him.

Ava: No, not really. So again, what the hell are you doing here?

Gwen: It’s xander. He’s not gonna give up until he finds sarah.

Ava: Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Calm down; calm down. When kristen makes sure that people disappear, she’s really good at it, and so wherever she’s got sarah, she’s gonna stay there.

Gwen: Yeah, I keep telling myself that, but…

Ava: Okay, and if it wasn’t for the two of us, right, she’d be in statesville right now. She’s not gonna double-cross us.

Gwen: I helped her escape, because she said to me that if I didn’t she would go and tell xander where sarah is. If he finds her–

Ava: Okay, I’m telling you, no one is gonna find her, okay? You don’t need to worry.

Gwen: Except for the fact that xander wants to hire steve to help find her now, and he’s good, isn’t he? He’s really good.

Ava: Yeah. Yeah he’s good. Okay. You do have to worry.

Kayla: Well, I thought that sarah was working with rex for doctors without borders.

Xander: Well, he was, alone. And he had no idea that everyone here thought she was with him.

Kayla: But maggie’s heard from her, right? Does maggie know about this?

Xander: Yeah, I told her.

Kayla: She must be a wreck.

Xander: Oh, she’s pretty tough. But we both just wanna know for sure that sarah’s all right. So what do you say?

Steve: Let me ask you something. Isn’t it possible that sarah just decided to move on from your relationship?

Xander: That suddenly? On the day we were supposed to be married?

Steve: It happens.

Xander: Not in this case. And believe me, I–I really did talk myself into thinking that’s what happened, but now that I know she’s not with rex and rex has no idea where she is, I– look, I think something is very wrong.

Steve: Well, I’m sorry you’re so worried and that maggie is too. God knows I’d do anything for her, but I’m on another case; I’m on my way out of town. Maybe you should talk to my partner.

Kayla: John, after everything that he’s been through with marlena?

Xander: Well, I’m gonna ask anyway. I’m sorry, but I just have to know what happened to sarah.

Maggie: So I called melissa, nathan, and melanie, and no one has heard anything from sarah.

Abigail: Hmm, I bet they’re pretty worried now too.

Maggie: Yeah, very.

Abigail: We’re gonna find her, aunt maggie. I promise.

Ava: All right, if steve finds sarah without any involvement rom kristen, then no one is gonna know that you knew anything about what happened to her.

Gwen: Great, so xander won’t kill me, and then he’ll just ride off into the sunset with her. He’ll let me down gently and ride off into the sunset with her. And either way I– I still lose him.

Ava: Well, no, you don’t know that; he could choose you.

Gwen: Me?

Ava: Mm-hmm.

Gwen: Over the perfect, sainted dr. Horton? No, that’s very bloody unlikely.

Ava why are you selling yourself so short? What’s so special about her anyway?

Maggie: You said it; I didn’T. Besides, abigail has already said she needs to talk to you. She’s not gonna let anything get in the way of her trying to find sarah.

Steve: Don’t worry, sweetness, it’s still me. Not marlena, definitely not the devil. Oh, I’m sorry. Too soon to joke about it?

Kayla: Kind of.

Kate: [Laughs]

John: Happy new year, doc.

This is going to be our best year ever.

Marlena: Thanks to you, we have this year and many more to come. You know, I wouldn’t be here without your love.

John: No, doc, you wouldn’t be here without the love of your entire family.

Sami: So, what are you thinking?

Lucas: I was just thinking that this is going to be a really great year… if you meant what you said.

Sami: Yeah. I meant it, every word. I’m done with ej for good, and I wanna be with you… if you’ll have me.

Allie: Happy new year.

[Chuckles]

Chanel: At least for you guys, it’s happy.

Allie: I thought johnny was going to be down in time to toast with us.

Chanel: That’s what he said, but obviously he’s not here, so whatever’s keeping him must be more important than his first kiss on new year’s eve with his wife.

[Ominous music]

Demon johnny: Happy new year, salem. You didn’t think you were getting rid of me that easily, did you? Oh, marlena, I can’t wait to see the look on your face when you find out I haven’t gone anywhere. And I can promise you, as well as anyone else who thought i was gone for good, it’s gonna be a hell of a new year.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.

[Soft orchestration]

Lucas: What do you mean “if I’ll have you”? Of course I’ll have you. I love you. You know how much I love you. You’ve always known that.

Sami: Right, but I just kept pushing you away.

Lucas: But this time is different. I mean, it is different, isn’t it?

Sami: It is different, okay? I–I know what I want now.

Lucas: All right, just to be clear, all right, you’re not kissing me and making big plans because you’re frustrated that ej kidnapped you, right? I mean, this is about us. It’s about you and me. It’s not about payback or–or revenge or–or the clock striking midnight. Okay, that was a really good answer. But–but listen to me, please. I was 100% in when we started this, when we reconnected. And you were ashamed. You were humiliated. You didn’t wanna tell anybody, and you told me you never wanted it to happen again, and now here you are.

Sami: Yeah, well, I’m all in now, okay? I just felt guilty, so guilty, for cheating on ej that it just blinded me to the truth… that I love you and I respect you, and–and you respect me, and that is so important to me. Okay? You’re my soulmate, and you always have been.

Lucas: I know that, i believe that, but do you believe that? Or are you going to go running back to ej again like you always do? And–and then he becomes your soulmate all of the sudden. Then what happens to me? What happens to me? I’m left nursing a broken heart again because of you?

Kayla: Uh, kate, I’m–I’m glad that you’re celebrating with us tonight.

Kate: So am I. It’s–it’s nice to be included.

Kayla: Well, it’s no secret that you and I have had our differences, but you make my brother happy, and so I am happy for both of you.

Kate: Well, that’s very gracious of you.

Roman: Yes, it is. It means a lot, little sis.

Steve: How about another toast?

Roman: Speaking of which, i have business for black patch. I’m hoping I can hire you to… find kate’s son.

Allie: Maybe johnny still hasn’t forgiven me for being a jerk about you guys getting married.

Chanel: No, you heard him, it’s all good. And I know he’s really glad you guys came over to make peace.

Tripp: Maybe it’s just that he’s still not feeling well.

Chanel: Yeah, yeah, it could be that he’s sicker than he let on. You know what, I–I–I’m going to go check on him.

[Dark ambient music]

[Eerie notes]

Demon marlena: Whoa! No!

John: Doc? Doc?

Marlena: John?

John: Doc, is it really you, honey?

Marlena: It’s me. It’s me. You saved me. You all–you all saved me.

Demon johnny: That sanctimonious family and all their drivel about love. Well, they may have driven me out of marlena but her grandson is all mine now, and he and i pick up right where marlena and I left off.

[Maniacal laughter] Ah… this is the sound of nature breathing.

[Ominous music]

Chanel: Johnny? Hey. Hey, are you all right?

Johnny: Uh, yeah, yeah. Fine.

Chanel: Okay, good. I–I was afraid that you still weren’t feeling well.

Johnny: No, no, no, I’m– I’m–I’m–I’m totally fine now. It just, uh, took me a while to get dressed. How do I look?

Chanel: You look great. And that suit! That suit is fire. But johnny, you missed the midnight toast and our kiss.

Johnny: What? Is it–it’s that–it’s that late already? I’m sorry, I must have, uh, lost track of time. But, um, nothing says that you and I can’t have our new year’s moment right now. Happy new year, mrs. Dimera.

Kate: You don’t need to hire steve to–to look for philip.

Steve: Well, actually I’m already on the case.

Kate: So, what does that mean? That someone else hired you to look for philip?

Steve: I got a call from brady earlier today, and he wants me to track kristen down.

Roman: What’s that got to do with philip?

Steve: Brady and chloe believe that kristen framed brady for philip’s murder. Now, if that’s true and I can track her down, she might have the answers we’re looking for.

Sami: I know this seems out of nowhere, and I know that i can be impulsive, but lucas, I–I promise you this time it’s different, okay?

Lucas: God, I hope so.

Sami: I know so. I do. I finally see ej for who he really is. It’s what you’ve been saying to me all along. And now that I’ve seen it, I can’t unsee it. I mean, he’s the kinda man who would kidnap me and throw me in a–a locked room for months. I couldn’t see my family. I couldn’t see all the people that I love. I can’t love someone who would do that to me.

[Tense music]

I’m gonna get you back, ej. Whatever it takes. Gabi? Is anyone home?

[Gasping] Lucas? What’s wrong?

Steve: So the theory is that kristen is so mad at brady for ending things with her, she staged the whole thing.

Kate: There was so much blood.

Roman: Yeah, but, you know, whatever kristen was guilty of in the past, you know, her, uh–generally her M.O. Was not to kill. She’s more into hiding people.

Steve: That’s true. And that’s why I think that kristen is holding philip prisoner somewhere while this thing plays out.

Kate: So you believe that philip’s still alive?

Steve: That’s the premise I’m working off of. And I’ll do everything I can to bring him home to you.

Roman: You okay?

Kate: I’m–I’m sorry, I just–it’s–it’s–it’s just a lot to absorb.

[Sighs] Do you–do you mind if we just call it a night?

Kayla: Of course not.

Kate: Thank you.

Kayla: It was great to see you…

Roman: Okay.

Kayla: And happy new year.

Roman: Yeah.

Steve: Okay. Kate, if philip’s alive, I’ll deliver him to you personally.

Roman: [Exhales] Well, that’s great news. If anybody can find philip, steve can.

Kate: Steve’s not going to find philip.

Roman: You don’t know that for sure.

Kate: I do know it. I know exactly what happened to philip, and I know exactly where he is.

[Soft music]

Allie: This is the best new year’s I’ve had in a really, really long time, maybe ever.

Tripp: Me too.

Allie: But I am wondering what happened to chanel and johnny?

Tripp: If johnny really is sick, maybe I should go check on him.

Allie: He seemed fine before. Maybe we should give them their privacy.

Tripp: Well, that would give us a little more time to celebrate on our own.

Chanel: Hello. What are you doing?

Johnny: I’m trying to make love to my wife. Can you think of a better way to ring in the new year?

Chanel: No, but you’re the one who invited allie and tripp to stay to share a midnight toast that you never showed up for.

Johnny: Oh, yeah. Right, uh…sorry, I–I must have forgot.

Chanel: Are you sure you’re okay?

Johnny: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Fine. So, what do you say we go celebrate this new year?

Lucas: Wrong? There’s nothing–nothing wrong, not at all. I mean, do you have any idea how long I’ve been waiting for this moment?

Sami: [Chuckles] Oh!

[Laughs]

Lucas: This is gonna be the best year ever. It’s gonna be a great year.

Sami: Yeah, it is. And I’m so glad, lucas. I’m just so happy I know that i can trust you, I know you’re gonna be honest with me. You are the best man I know.

Lucas: Well, don’t make me out to be a saint, because I’m not, so…

Sami: I know you’re not a saint, but you are my rock. You were there for me during the whole allie situation. I mean, oh, my god, that whole thing that happened with charlie dale? You kept me sane.

Lucas: Well you plead guilty to a crime you didn’t commit, so, eh, not so sane there.

Sami: Yeah, well, maybe sane is a relative term. But then when we were locked together in that dimera dungeon I really thought we were going to die, and–and you were there for me, you comforted me, made love to me. And like an idiot, I still went back to ej. I’ve wasted so much time, and i don’t wanna waste another second.

Lucas: All right, so, what does that mean? What are you saying?

Sami: I wanna leave salem. Now.

Get ready. It’s time for

the savings event of the year.

Roman: [Chuckles] So philip framed brady for his own murder? And that’s why you’ve been holed up in your room? You were hiding philip?

Kate: Yes. Yes, I was. And now victor and I are doing everything we possibly can to get him the help he needs.

Roman: Yeah, well, I’m–I’m all for philip getting help, all right, but are you sure this is the way? There are a lot of people worried about philip, mourning him even. Are you really okay with letting those people think that philip is dead?

Kate: Roman, I am so sorry about it. I really, really am. But…philip is my number one priority, and it’s just a decision I had to make.

Roman: Yeah, a decision you didn’t think you could come to me with?

Kate: Roman, I just didn’t wanna burden you with it. I didn’t wanna force you to lie.

Roman: Kate, listen to me–

[Sighs]–You could’ve told me. You, your well-being, that is my priority.

Kate: Well, you know now along with lucas and–and victor.

Roman: Yeah, would you have told me had I not asked steve to look for philip? Or did that force your hand?

Kate: Roman I feel so guilty about not telling you, I–i really, really do, but you know now, you know, and I–I can’t tell you what a relief it is to me, because now we can go into the new year and there are no secrets between us, none. But please, I have to ask you not to tell anyone about this, because if you do, philip and i could be in a world of trouble.

Marlena: Mmm, you know, I’ve never felt safer than I do right now.

John: Mmm.

Marlena: I love you so much.

John: Only half as much as i love you, doc.

[Knocking on door] Oh, brother.

Marlena: What? What?

[Laughter]

John: Coming! Coming!

Marlena: That better be a pizza.

John: Coming.

Steve: Happy new year!

Kayla: Happy new year!

Steve: Hope we’re not stopping by too–too late.

Kayla: We were driving by, and we saw the light on, and we thought we’d like to say happy new year in person.

John: Never too late for you–we’re just enjoying a quiet little celebration at home. Get in here, get in.

Kayla: How are you doing?

Marlena: Um–oh. Oh–[Chuckles]

Kayla: [Chuckles]

Marlena: I’m glad you’re here. You know, john has been filling me in on some of the things that happened, and, uh, I just owe you such a huge apology.

Kayla: You don’t owe us anything. As a matter of fact, you’ve already apologized so many times.

Marlena: I couldn’t apologize enough. You know, as I said, john was filling me in on stuff and some of it I remember, and there are so many things that I’ve clearly never realized or–or forgotten. Maybe it’s a very good thing that I’ve forgotten those.

Allie: Well, since johnny and chanel are so occupied, maybe we should just head home.

Tripp: Hm.

Johnny: You don’t wanna ring in the new year with your favorite brother?

Tripp: Oh, there you guys are. We were starting to worry.

Allie: Wow, where did you get the suit?

Tripp: Yeah, that is some kinda sartorial statement.

Johnny: Well, chanel and i just got back from the fashion capital of the world. What better souvenir? Except maybe this.

Chanel: [Laughs]

Allie: Well, you seem to be feeling better.

Johnny: Like a million euros, so, uh, let’s get on with the celebrating, shall we?

Allie: Yeah better late than never.

Johnny: Yeah, sorry about that, uh, memory lapse. I totally spaced on the toast thing, um…

Tripp: Hey, nah, I’m glad to see you made a speedy recovery.

Johnny: Absolutely. Nah, it’s just jet lag. Uh, but what better way to cure some jet lag than celebrating with my loved ones? Wife?

Allie: I’d like to make a toast.

Johnny: Ooh, can I stop you there before…

Allie: Okay, very funny. To two of my favorite people in the world, my brother and my sister-in-law, which is so weird to say, but I will get used to it. I wanna apologize again for being a jerk. I love you both so much, and i sincerely hope that you guys have a very long and very happy marriage.

Chanel: [Chuckles]

Johnny: Brava. Salud.

Lucas: Hold on, hold on, uh, of course I wanna be with you. I would do anything to be with you. But why do we have to move? We live here. Our family’s here. Our daughter’s here. Our grandchild?

Sami: Yeah but this is about you and me right now. We should be able to be together with no distractions.

Justin: As in ej you mean?

Sami: Well, yes, fine, ej. I mean, he’s out on bail. When he finds out that we’re together, he could come after you the same way he came after me.

Lucas: Fine, let him come after me, I don’t care. I can handle ej. I don’t sweat it.

Sami: I know that you can. I’m just saying, we don’t have to put up with him, right? We could go to europe if we want to. We’re adults, we can do whatever we want. We could go to phoenix and visit will and sonny and ari. We could buy a house somewhere out west.

Lucas: Wait a minute, you wanna buy a place?

Sami: Yeah, sure, why not? But you know what, I don’t care where we are, lucas, as long as I’m with you.

Lucas: As long as we’re not here, you mean.

Sami: You know what we could say goodbye to everyone first thing tomorrow morning and be gone before ej even realizes what happened. What do you say?

Woman: Life’s been hard enough.

Roman: Kate… I would never wanna do anything to hurt you, but if brady went to jail?

Kate: No, no, no, no, no. That won’t happen. After victor and I rescinded the document we signed to declare philip dead, it forced trask to drop the charges against brady. So brady’s free, philip’s getting the help he needs, and victor and me and lucas and you are now the only ones who know that philip’s alive.

Roman: Yeah. I just wish the people who care about philip could know the truth too, just for their own peace of mind.

Kate: It’s too risky.

Roman: Yeah. Yeah, I know that, yeah. I’m just glad you trust me enough to open up to me like this.

[Sighs] You’re a mother who is just trying to protect her son, and I definitely get that. So, yes, kate… I promise. I will keep your secret.

[Solemn music]

Marlena: You know, what– what I–what I do know about the havoc that I wreaked just terrifies me. And I don’t know how I ever apologize for putting tripp in a–in a coma or–or–or what i did to you.

Steve: No tripp’s just fine.

Kayla: And-and I’m fine too. It was a–it was a simple bump on the head, nothing more. I’ll tell you what really shocked more, was when…

[Suspenseful music]

Marlena: Was when what?

Kayla: Never mind, you know, I really shouldn’t have brought it up.

Marlena: No, it’s all right. You were shocked when…what?

Kayla: When you kissed me.

Marlena: When I what?

Chanel: I’m so happy you came over, horton.

Allie: I wasn’t sure how you guys would feel about us just showing up, but I felt horrible for going off on you and johnny and the way that I did, so i had to come over and make things right.

Johnny: This just sealed the deal.

Allie: Well, I’m just happy everything’s cool with us again. You too, dupree.

Tripp: Is that still your name or, uh, are you a dimera now?

Chanel: Mmm, I do love being mrs. Dimera.

Johnny: Yeah but it’s such a hassle to change your ids and–

Chanel: Not for a woman in love.

Allie: Well, whatever you decide, I’m still going to call you dupree, because dimera just doesn’t have the same ring.

Johnny: Well, I don’t care what anybody calls her, as long as I can call you “wife.”

[Clears throat]

Chanel: Are you sure you’re feeling okay? You still seem a little off.

Johnny: Busy few weeks. I’m just–just tired.

Tripp: Are you sure? I can–I can check you out.

Johnny: Uh, no, no, it’s fine. Just–like I said, just, uh–

[Exhales]–A little jet lag. A little sleep’s all I need, especially with my beautiful wife next to me.

Allie: All right, well, I’m going to take that as our cue to go.

[Laughs] You do know how lucky you are, right?

Johnny: I do.

Allie: And you do know how brave you are, right?

[Both laugh]

Tripp: Well, congratulations you guys. I can’t think of a better way to start the new year than mr. And mrs. Dimera.

Johnny: Thanks.

Tripp: Happy new year.

Johnny: You too. And now this is the first time all year that I have had my wife all to myself.

Chanel: [Chuckles]

Lucas: It–it–it sounds amazing.

Sami: Fantastic, now let’s get you packed, we gotta go.

Lucas: But wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.

Sami: What? What?

Lucas: We need to think this through a little bit, you know?

Sami: What is there to think about?

Lucas: I–I just think we’re going too fast is all.

Sami: Too fast?

Lucas: Yeah.

Sami: Lucas, you and I have known each other for more than half of our lives. I love you, you love me. What’s stopping us? What’s stopping you?

Lucas: Nothing, nothing is stopping me.

Sami: Nobody knows you better than I do, lucas roberts and that is definitely your “something’s bothering you” face. What is it?

Lucas: And despite all the pain that ej’s put her through, she’s–she’s not ready to give up on him yet.

Allie: I just don’t get that. I mean, she’s put up with so much mistreatment from him, but to kidnap her? I mean, to keep her locked away against her will for all that time? It’s–it’s just cruel. Sadistic, really. I don’t know about mom, but i will never forgive him for it.

Sami: Okay, look I know it’s hard, but we can’t screw this up again, okay? If this is going to work, we have to be honest with each other, both of us. And I know it’s sometime really hard, but we’re going to do this right, okay? So, lucas… what’s bothering you?

Marlena: So…

[Chuckles] I kissed you? I don’t–I don’t under–what– how did that happen?

Steve: Well, um, the devil transformed into me, and then–

Kayla: And as soon as the kiss was over, he transformed back into you.

Kayla: Like I said, I–i shouldn’t have brought it up.

[Chuckles] I just have always thought of myself as enlightened, and… this is a first.

Kayla: For me too.

Steve: Are these two just friends?

Kayla: Oh would you stop it? Honestly.

Steve: I’m sorry. Kayla thinks it’s too soon to joke about it.

Marlena: Well, I’m glad we can talk about it, you know, just as adults, talk about what happened and be open and frank with each other, and, uh, you know, if it’s awkward, we can even make a joke about it. So, to answer your immature and insensitive question…

John: [Chuckles]

Marlena: No, we’re just friends.

John: [Chuckles]

[Laughter]

Steve: Well…okay.

[Light music]

Tripp: Hey. Hey, how’s henry?

Allie: He’s sleeping like an angel.

Tripp: Well, I hope you aren’t too sleepy.

Allie: What did you have in mind? That’s exactly what I was thinking.

Tripp: Mm, that’s good to know. Maybe we can keep this celebration going all day tomorrow.

Allie: And miss the bowl games?

Tripp: Aww, you’re right, you’re right, I did promise henry I’d watch the parades with him.

Allie: You’re so good to him and me.

Tripp: I might be very good to you right now.

Johnny: [Clears throat]

Chanel: Mm–okay, you are going straight to bed.

Johnny: Ooh, yes please.

Chanel: I meant sleep. But first I wanna make a toast.

Johnny: Okay.

Chanel: To our first couple of weeks as a married couple. I have never been happier.

Johnny: To making you happy every single day for the rest of our lives.

Chanel: [Gasps] Johnny, are you okay?

Johnny: [Groans]

Lucas: Listen to me, I am all for honesty. I am, it’s important. It’s–it’s very important. There’s something that you need to know–

Roman: Happy new year.

Sami: Oh!

Kayla: Are the two of you celebrating new year’s together?

Roman: Yeah what’s going on?

Sami: Well, I wanted to wish lucas actually a happy new year because I think this is going to be the best new year in a very long time for both of us…at least I hope so. What do you say, lucas?

[Tense music]

Lucas: Well, I say that, um, you guys are the lucky ones. You know, um, you’ll be the first to find out that sami and I are back together, and not only that, we’re, uh–we’re leaving salem…tomorrow.

Serena: It’s my 3:10

Roman: So, you two are back together again? Since when?

Lucas: Just now.

Sami: [Laughs]

Kate: And you’re leaving town tomorrow?

Sami: We are.

Kate: But isn’t that a little…

Lucas: Impulsive, it is.

Kate: Ah, well, that’s one word for it.

Lucas: Right, I know it might seem like that, but you know sami and I have loved each other forever. You know, we’re just uh, trying to make up for wasted time, right?

Sami: [Laughs] Just like you and kate, dad.

Roman: Yeah, well, uh, guess it runs in the family.

Sami: Kate… I hope you can be happy for us.

Kate: If lucas is happy.

Roman: Well, then I am thrilled for both of you.

Sami: Thanks, daddy.

Allie: You hear that?

Tripp: What?

Allie: Silence. Peace. Right now in this moment, everything is perfect. And after the year we had, i mean, with all the scary stuff, wouldn’t it be great if it was always like this?

Tripp: Well, then that is my new year’s resolution, to make life as perfect as I can for you.

Allie: You already do.

Marlena: I must say, for the first time in a very long time, I’m feeling relaxed and calm. Looking forward to the future, a wonderful life with the love of my life.

John: Amen to that.

Kayla: Yeah, well, I’m just, uh–I’m–I think all of us just want things to be a little less exciting around here.

[Laughter]

John: Yeah, well look–look, um, before you two go, I wanted to, uh–I wanted to thank you. Um, you know, there were times in this madness here when I–i thought that I had lost her forever. Hell, there were–there were times when I didn’t know if i was even going to survive, or any of us, but… you just need to know it was your love and support that pulled us through to the other side, so, thank you.

Kayla: Well, we’re just grateful that you’re both back.

Steve: And we thank god that the devil’s reign of terror is finally over.

[Soft music]

Chanel: May–maybe I should take you to the er.

Johnny: Uh, no, no, just, uh–it’s probably just the franciacorta going straight to my head.

[Clears throat]

Chanel: Okay. Well, if you won’t get checked out, then the sooner we get you tucked in, the better.

Johnny: You go on up, I’ll– I’ll be there in a second.

Chanel: You promise?

Johnny: Yes, I promise.

Chanel: I love you, husband.

Johnny: And I love you, wife.

Chanel: [Chuckles]
