Lani: I have chased down a lot of perps, but this was ridiculous. I think I ran down every alley in salem.

Eli: Well, detective price, tonight you are gonna stay off of these feet.

Lani: Only if t twins don’t wake up.

Eli: What? Am I not capable of getting them back to sleep?

Lani: Of course you are, but we take turns.

Eli: Not tonight. Not tonight, my love.

[Knocking on door] Whoever that is, I’m gonna tell them it’s a bad time.

Lani: Yeah.

Eli: Yeah.

Paulina: I hope this isn’t a bad time.

[Dissonant note]

Anna: Oh, look, tony, how wonderful! They’re throwing a party to welcome us home from europe.

Tony: Oh, it’s not meant for us, darling. It says “congratulations.”

Anna: Oh. Well, maybe they wanna congratulate us on how well we did flying commercial. Can you believe how loud that woman across the aisle from us was?

Tony: And yet you were remarkably restrained.

Anna: Really? You think so?

Tony: I meant after you fell asleep. Ej.

Ej: Welcome back, you two.

Anna: Oh, we are so glad to be back. Especially if we get invited to this party.

Ej: Actually, it’s a wedding reception for my son and his wife.

Tony: Johnny got married?

Ej: Mm.

Tony: Oh. Who’s the lucky girl?

Ej: She’s a gold-digger, actually. And I predict my son is going to have to pay a small fortune to get rid of this one.

Chanel: G, you were right about italian sheets. They are the bomb.

[Dramatic music]

[Line rings]

Allie: What’s up, dupree?

Chanel: Hey, horton. I’m calling because my mom is throwing johnny and me a wedding reception here at the mansion. And I was hoping that you and tripp could come.

Allie: Yeah, of course. When is it?

Chanel: In a couple of hours.

Allie: Talk about short notice.

Chanel: Sorry. I meant to call you earlier, but johnny’s been distracting me.

Johnny: You ready for another round?

Marlena: John, I appreciate your caring, but you don’t have to keep on calling me. No, no, I’m fine, I’m fine. You go ahead and enjoy your poker game with abe and roman. I’m just gonna finish my tea and–and just relax. Yeah. I love you, too. Okay, bye-bye.

[Knocking on door]

Susan: Out, demon! Be gone from dr. Marlena evans once and for all.

[Light piano music]

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Paulina: Okay if I come in?

Lani: Actually, um, eli and i were just settling down for a quiet evening, so.

Paulina: Well, I hate to disturb you, but I just wanted to come by in person to tell you that I’m throwing a wedding reception for your sister. Tonight.

Lani: Tonight?

Paulina: Mm-hmm. Well, just family. And I want–wanted to tell you in person ’cause it would mean the world to chanel if you could attend. It would mean the world to me, too.

Lani: Thank you for including us. But since I’ve been back at work I only get a few hours a day with the twins, so.

Paulina: Well, you–you know, you wouldn’t be gone that long. You come by, just raise a glass. You’ll be back with those little angels before you know it.

Lani: Sorry, paulina, but it’s a no.

Eli: Paulina, we–we appreciate the invite, but lani’s had a tough day, so we’re gonna sit this one out.

Paulina: Oh. Oh. Oh. Yeah, well, okay. So, well, let’s just get the family together soon for a celebratory dinner.

Eli: Yeah, sounds great. Hey, please, give chanel– give chanel our love.

Paulina: Mm-hmm. Yeah. I will. And you two, you– you have a nice evening.

Eli: You too.

Lani: “Sounds great”?

Eli: Just trying to be nice.

Lani: I get that, eli, but you can’t say things like that to her. You have to remember with her it’s always the same thing. You give her an inch, she takes a mile.

Paulina: [Sobbing quietly]

Anna: Come on, ej, this is happy news. You need to stop being so cynical.

Tony: I’m gonna agree with anna. ‘Cause regardless of how you must feel about this young woman, johnny must love her and you’ll only alienate him further if you do not support this union. So why don’t you just put on a happy face and give these kids your blessing?

Ej: Even if I think it’s a match made in hell?

Chanel: Horton, I gotta go. Why are you looking at me like that?

Johnny: ‘Cause you’re the sexiest woman alive. Let’s make love again.

Chanel: You’re joking, right?

Johnny: Not at all. I feel like I could go forever.

Chanel: That’s great. But just this morning you were completely wiped out. And now it’s like– it’s like you’re unstoppable.

[Tense music]

[Eerie chuckling] Johnny? You suddenly seem so far away. Is everything okay?

Johnny: Uh, yeah. Yeah, it’s fine. I just– I was trying to figure out how I went from being so out of it this morning to feeling like I can take on the world. Must be because I’m crazy in love with my wife.

Chanel: Well, I’m crazy in love with you, too.

Johnny: Yeah?

Chanel: Mm-hmm. And pretty soon a whole bunch of people will be here to celebrate our love, so we need to get ready.

Johnny: Okay. But before we do.

Tripp: So the party’s tonight, huh?

Allie: Yep. Totally last minute. But chanel really wants both of us there.

Tripp: Sounds really fun, but I am on call tonight.

Allie: Can anyone cover for you?

Tripp: Maybe if I was still in med school. But now that I’m officially a doctor, if they need me–

Allie: You have to show up. I get it.

Tripp: But of course I’ll still go to the party, okay? Just know there’s a chance I might have to get called back to the hospital.

Allie: Okay. Well, maybe we’ll get lucky. I really, really want you there with me.

Tripp: For moral support because you’re still on the fence about this marriage? Or to celebrate because you’re really okay with it now?

Allie: I am really okay with it now. I just feel bad about the way I reacted when I first heard.

Tripp: Johnny and chanel accepted your apology.

Allie: I mean they claimed to. But tripp, I said some really hurtful things. I mean, I told my best friend that it was just a matter of time before my brother broke her heart.

Tripp: Hey. You were caught off guard. Okay? And from what you’ve told me about johnny’s past, you had good reason to be worried.

Allie: You know, my brother might have been a serious player back in the day. But I think for the first time he’s–he’s really in love. Just like I’m really in love with you.

Tripp: Hmm. But we don’t wanna be late. So, we should go shower. Together?

Tripp: That is a fantastic idea. Yes.

Susan: Begone, beelzebub! And if this doesn’t work — how about this? Burn, baby, burn.

Marlena: Susan, stop. Susan, stop. Look, I appreciate your concern, really, I do. But it’s marlena. The devil is gone.

Susan: I wanna believe you, I do, I do. But you know what lucifer can be. He can be a crafty son of a gun. And–and he can sneak up on you when you least expect it.

Marlena: Yeah. No, no, no. No more holy water.

Susan: No, I need–I need to vanquish evil.

Marlena: Oh, please, all you’re doing is vanquishing my makeup. Please, please, please stop. I promise you, it really is me. Woman: I have moderate to severe plaque psoriasis.

Susan: Okay, okay, I believe you, all right. You know– you are dr. Marlena evans, not the devil in disguise.

Marlena: And that’s true. So thank you. Thank you for believing me.

Susan: Oh, I do, I do, finally. You know what? You can have the holy water just in case. Here you go. I’m gonna keep the cross. It gives me comfort.

Marlena: Yeah. Well, come in. You know, after what you’ve been through, I can understand you being afraid.

Susan: Thank you. Thank you for understanding.

Marlena: Susan?

Susan: Hmm?

Marlena: John told me what I did to you. I’m so sorry.

Susan: Oh, hey, I don’t blame you, not one bit. I mean, it wasn’t you who turned me into kristen dimera and that little kitty cat. That was him.

Marlena: It must’ve been horrible.

Susan: Oh, I mean the kitty cat, that wasn’t so bad. But kristen, yeah, that was another story.

Marlena: Yeah. You know, the reason he wanted you to be kristen was so that you could seduce john.

Susan: Oh. You know what? There was no chance of that, nope. Zero, zilcho, zip that it was gonna happen because you know what? John black is true blue.

Marlena: I know. Even in my darkest hour, I never stopped believing in him. I never stopped believing in our love.

Eli: Lani, I know how you feel about paulina. But I don’t see the harm in going the family dinner or the party.

Lani: Don’t you get it? That’s not how she operates. You say yes to her once and next thing you know, it’s–it’s every week. Didn’t you see how she just barreled in here? She has no respect for boundaries. She doesn’t care about what we want. It’s all about what she wants.

Eli: Right now it’s all about chanel.

Lani: And I want to do something nice for chanel. But guess who bought the entire registry?

Eli: The best gift that you could give chanel is to be there for her.

Lani: Well, I wanna be with the kids.

Eli: You– we just put them down. I’m sure they’re– they’re out for the rest of the night.

Lani: Well, where are we gonna find a babysitter this late?

Eli: You’re looking at him.

Lani: What?

Eli: Wha–wait, you should go to the party yourself.

Lani: Oh, hell no. Mm-mm.

Eli: Hey, look, I know that you’re angry with your mother–

Lani: Don’t call–no, don’t call her that, eli.

Eli: Listen, chanel didn’t do anything wrong. I’m sure that she’ll be very hurt that you’re not there.

Lani: Do you have any idea what it’s like to be married to someone who’s always right?

Eli: I don’t– I don’t know about always but in this case, yes.

Lani: [Laughs]

Eli: Go–go get dressed. Be there for chanel.

Lani: Thank you.

Eli: Go, go.

Lani: Okay. I’m going.

Tripp: Wow. You look incredible.

Allie: And you look super hot in scrubs but even hotter in regular clothes. Not to mention out of them.

Tripp: I do love you.

[Phone rings] It’s the hospital. Dr. Johnson. I’m on my way.

Allie: No, it’s my fault for mentioning scrubs.

Tripp: Hopefully, this won’t take too long. And as soon as I’m done, I’ll head straight to the party. Okay?

Allie: Okay.

[Sighs]

[Dramatic music]

Johnny: I love you so much, chanel. And that is why I am so excited for this party tonight. So that both of our families can see that.

Chanel: They think we moved way too fast.

Johnny: Who cares? We know we made the right decision. Look at this. These rings, they mean that we belong to each other. We’re committed. And we’re in love. And we want the whole world to see that. And that’s what tonight’s about. It’s about going down there, and showing everybody that we are proud of the decision that we made. And that we couldn’t be more excited about the incredible life that we’re gonna build together as husband and as wife.

Chanel: Come on, G. Let’s get ready to go see our families.

Johnny: Okay. Let’s get down there and let’s torch any doubts in their minds.

Tony: A match made in hell? What a dreadful way to speak about your son’s marriage.

Ej: It’s the truth. Johnny is being taken for a ride by a con artist.

Anna: Now hang on here a minute, ej. Tony has met chanel and he thinks she’s a lovely young woman.

Tony: It doesn’t matter what I think. Johnny is obviously in love with her, made a commitment to her. I’m at least willing to give her a chance.

Ej: How much of a chance? One that costs us a million dollars? Ten? Twenty?

Anna: Oh, would you stop with the suspicions. You know, not everyone is after the dimera fortune.

Ej: It’s not speculation, I assure you. Chanel married xander cook when she thought he was wealthy. When she found out he wasn’t, she had the marriage annulled. It lasted all of one day.

Tony: Fine. But we don’t know the whole story now, do we? Not to mention the fact it happened some time ago. I mean, doesn’t chanel have her own successful business? And from what I’ve heard, she’s already an heiress. Her mother is very wealthy. A real estate mogul.

Ej: Yes. But it’s new money. I mean, look at that hideous banner and these decorations. I’d say paulina’s taste is a little– well, you get the picture.

Paulina: Well, not me. I don’t get the picture. Could you describe it to me, ej? Spell it out, huh? This is the sound of nature breathing.

Susan: I just admire you so much, dr. Marlena evans. I mean, you’re so wise and, I mean, you’ve helped so many people. And just talking to you right now, I mean, I feel like I can handle whatever comes my way. Like the party at the mansion.

Marlena: Party?

Susan: Uh-huh. To celebrate our sweet johnny getting married. You know, ms. Paulina price, she–that’s the bride’s mama, now she put it together real last-minute.

Marlena: I see.

Susan: I mean, since you’re johnny’s grandma, too, I mean, you should come. We should go together.

Marlena: No, no, no. I can’t do that.

Susan: Why the heck not?

Marlena: You’re not the only person that I hurt when I wasn’t myself. I actually, well, destroyed paulina’s wedding. And I don’t think she would want me there to celebrate her daughter’s wedding.

Paulina: What were you saying about my taste, ej? It’s, like, what? Cheap? Chintzy? Tacky?

Ej: Of course not. I’d call it…festive.

Paulina: Mm-hmm.

Anna: Paulina, hi. I’m anna dimera, ej’s sister-in-law. And this is tony, my husband, ej’s brother.

Tony: Nice to meet you.

Paulina: It’s a pleasure to meet you both.

Anna: I can’t tell you, we’re so over the moon that your daughter and our nephew found each other. Can’t wait to meet your chanel. I’ve heard such nice things about her.

Ej: Tony, I could use your help with the champagne. Come along.

Tony: Excuse me.

Anna: Please, paulina, you have to ignore ej when he’s in a bad mood, which is most of the time.

Paulina: He’s not as enthusiastic about chanel becoming a dimera as you are.

Anna: Well, I just don’t– I don’t think he’s upset about your daughter. I think he’s more in a bad mood because he just got booted out of the family company and he might be going to prison.

Paulina: Oh, I heard about that.

Anna: Mm. And don’t listen to a word he said about your taste. I think the decorations are fabulous.

Paulina: Well, thank you. You’re staying for the party?

Anna: Oh, absolutely. I love celebrating young love. Or any kind of love.

Paulina: I am with you on that, anna.

[Doorbell rings]

Chanel: Horton! Wow, girl. You look beautiful.

Allie: Thanks. And you just take my breath away. Wow.

Demon johnny: We are looking so hot tonight, giovanni. If you’d just stop fighting me, we could set this whole town on fire. The world is full of make or break moments.

Chanel: Where’s tripp?

Allie: He’s on-call tonight.

Chanel: Oh, that’s sucks.

Allie: Yeah, I know. He said he might try and come over later though if it’s not too late when he’s done.

Chanel: Cool. And, horton, I want you to know I’m really glad you’re here.

Allie: I am too.

[Both giggle]

Tony: So when will chad and abigail arrive?

Ej: They’re not coming.

Tony: They declined your invitation?

Ej: I didn’t extend one. It’s bad enough that my home’s been transformed into a vegas wedding chapel. But if I also had to look at our brother’s smug face all evening, I might give the authorities a real reason to lock me up.

Tony: Cheer up, will you? Ej. This is a party.

Ej: Not one I wanted to have.

Paulina: You know, your brother-in-law got one thing right.

Anna: Really? What was that?

Paulina: It is festive!

Anna: Yes.

Paulina: And wait till you try the food, oh! I hired the top-notch caterer. Most amazing reviews. Oh, chanel! Allie!

Chanel: Hi, mama.

Paulina: Baby, oh! You look stunning. Oh, you both do.

Allie: Thank you. So do you, ms. Price.

Paulina: Well, thank you. Chanel darling, this is johnny’s auntie, ms. Anna dimera.

Chanel: Oh, it’s very nice to meet you.

Anna: You too. Same to you. And she’s right, you do look gorgeous. You both do. Aren’t they just adorable?

[Laughter]

Paulina: Oh, that they are.

Anna: Yeah, I mean it. It’s like the minute you walked in, I thought, “holy moly. These two have something really special going on.” I don’t know how else to say it but you just look so right together.

Paulina: Of course they do. They’re best friends, they’re business associates, and now sisters-in-law. But we better get this party started, but we can’t without the groom. Where is your husband, baby?

[Eerie music]

Johnny: No, no. This can’t be happening.

Demon johnny: Oh, but it is, giovanni. I know you can feel my power coursing through your veins. And I know you want it. And you know you want it. Stop fighting. Just give in to it. Give in to it now!

[Thunder booms]

Marlena: Susan? Susan? You’re pale as a ghost. Are you all right?

[Eerie music]

Tackling tough messes can

Susan: Oh, god. Oh, your shoes. Dr. Marlena evans, your shoes.

Marlena: Oh, oh, my goodness. No, no, susan, that’s okay. You just stay calm. I’m gonna take you to the hospital.

Susan: Oh, no, no, no. The party?

Marlena: Oh, you are not going to a party.

Susan: I have to. I have to. It’s for our grandson.

Marlena: No, no, no. The only place you’re going is a hospital. But I will–I will call ej and let him know what’s going on.

Susan: No, no, no, no, no. You know what? I’ll go to the hospital, all right, but please, please don’t tell ej. Don’t scare him, please.

Marlena: Okay, I won’T.

Ej: Marlena?

Marlena: Ej, hi. I’m here with your mom and she has a bit of an upset stomach and so she wants me to let you know she won’t be able to make it to the party.

Ej: Oh, that’s too bad. Is there anything I can do?

Marlena: No, thanks. I will keep an eye on her.

Ej: Thank you. Give her my love.

Marlena: I will. Bye.

Susan: Did he buy it?

Marlena: He bought it.

Susan: Okay.

Marlena: And now we’re gonna go to the hospital.

Chanel: I better go see what’s keeping johnny.

Paulina: Excuse us a moment.

Chanel: I thought you wanted to get the party started.

Paulina: I do. I do. But I wanna tell you something first. I invited your sister, but she can’t make it.

Chanel: Can’t? Or doesn’t want to? Mama, you can tell me the truth.

Paulina: Lani doesn’t wanna come because she doesn’t wanna be around me. It has absolutely nothing to do with you. She loves you. She loves you, baby. It’s just that her not being here–

Lani: Sorry, I’m late.

Paulina: Lani.

Lani: We couldn’t get a babysitter tonight, so eli is gonna stay with the kids. But, chanel, congratulations. I am just so happy to be here for you.

Chanel: And I’m so happy that you’re here.

Ej: Here you go. I just got word that my mother can’t make it. So everyone’s here except your husband. Any idea when he might deign to join us?

Johnny: Here’s johnny!

[Eerie music]

(Man 1 vo) I’m living with cll

Johnny: How’s it going, ladies?

Chanel: What was up with that entrance?

Johnny: Pretty great, right? I assume you got the reference.

Allie: “The shining.” Yeah, we got it. It was a little much, don’t you think?

Chanel: Yeah. I think you kind of freaked everyone out.

Johnny: Well, come on guys. It was a joke. Are those not allowed at wedding receptions? Should I not smile, either?

Chanel: You know I love your smile. But it’s just that, you know, I feel like you’re on a roller coaster. This–this morning you had zero energy. And then a few hours later, you were like a stallion.

Johnny: Well, I thought you rather enjoyed our afternoon romps.

Chanel: You know I do. It’s just that I’m worried that you’re running on fumes.

Johnny: Trust me, I’m fine. I feel like a million bucks.

Paulina: Well, enough with this chitchat now. Let’s get this party started.

Johnny: I’m sorry I’m late. But this place looks amazing, and so do you. It’s gonna be a great party, paulina.

Paulina: Oh, no, no, no, no. You call me mama. Oh, mama price. We’re family now.

Johnny: Well, okay, mama.

[Laughter]

Anna: Attention everyone. The father of the groom has a few words he’d like to say.

Ej: Thank you, anna. Good evening, everyone. Thank you all for joining us tonight to celebrate the marriage of my son johnny and his beautiful bride chanel dupree dimera. Please.

[Applause] Relationships between fathers and sons aren’t always easy, especially in the dimera family. We’re a strong-willed lot. Passionate. Determined. And our convictions about what’s right and what’s wrong can sometimes lead to conflict… it’s no secret that my son and I don’t always see eye to eye on everything. I don’t always agree with his choices. But johnny, you’re a grown man now, fully capable of making your own decisions. And whether or not I agree with them, always know that I will love you with all my heart and I want nothing more than for you to be happy. And it’s also so very clear that you, chanel, make my son very happy. Welcome to the family. Mm, we have someone special to thank for organizing this wonderful party, the mother of the bride. Paulina, please, the floor is yours.

Paulina: Well, as you all know, I’m painfully shy.

[Laughter] Well, okay, obviously that’s not the case. Shy I am not. But just a little– it’s a little overwhelming to see your baby get married. And I’ve had a great, great career and I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished, but I am most proud of my family. And all I’ve ever wanted in my life was for my daughters to be happy and it looks like, thank god, they are now. And I have such confidence in chanel. And more important, she has confidence in herself. And she’s just like her mama, she knows her own mind and it wants johnny. And it’s safe to say that the rest of her does too.

[Laughter] So, young man, it’s all because of you. And let me tell you something, you do your mama price a favor and you keep it that way, okay? Or otherwise, you’re gonna have to answer to me.

Johnny: Ooh, I’m scared.

Paulina: All right, enough of that now. Who’s next? Chanel, right? Then johnny?

Allie: Actually, before they speak, there is something that I would like to say. I’ve lost count of how many asthma attacks I’ve had.

Allie: When johnny and chanel first got back from italy and announced they’d been married, I wasn’t exactly supportive. And I apologized, but I know that it hurt badly. And so I’m here to apologize again, publicly. And let all of you how overjoyed I am that my brother and my best friend have found true love with each other. And I’m so lucky to have them both in my life. To johnny and chanel, I hope that you are happy together forever.

Lani: Um, what she said.

[Laughter] But seriously, chanel, I wish you and johnny a wonderful life together. I am so honored to celebrate you tonight. And I couldn’t be happier to have you as a sister.

[Baby crying]

[Light music]

And of course, I am very happy to have johnny as a brother-in-law.

Johnny: Well, hey, I’m lucky to have such a hot sister-in-law.

Chanel: Thank you, lani. And thank all of you for being here and for your beautiful words. And I appreciate johnny’s father for letting us know that he respects our decision, even though he doesn’t agree with it. And, mama, thank you for this amazing party and for all of your love and support. And horton, you’re already the best friend I could ever ask for. And now we’re sisters. I mean, how cool is that? And to the whole dimera family, thank you for opening up your home and your hearts to me. I’m so grateful. And I can’t wait to know you all even better. And now I would like to toast to my handsome, brilliant, amazing husband, who I am head over heels in love with. To johnny.

All: To johnny.

Anna: Well, go on, johnny. Kiss the bride.

[Laughter]

Tripp: And earlier in the day you felt fine? No dizziness, fever, or nausea?

Susan: No, no sir. But this morning I did have one of my visions.

Marlena: That’s why she contacted me.

Tripp: And is that– is that unusual, having–having a vision?

Susan: No. No. I have them all the time. But this one–this one, it was completely different. I have never experienced anything like this in my life. It was so powerful, I felt it from the tippy, tippy top of my head all the way down to my toes. I haven’t the foggiest idea what it was, but it literally, literally made me sick.

[Eerie music]

Johnny: And now it is my turn. And I’d like to start by paying homage to my nonno. And there he is. The formidable stefano dimera. Whom I loved and revered and miss to this day. He gave me everything a kid could ever want. And he taught me that nothing is more important than family. You know, they say parents and grandparents they shouldn’t pick favorites. He ignored that rule. He let me know, without question, that I was his favorite. His little giovanni. I thought he was the greatest. But then as I got older, I realized some people thought he was a terrible person. Some even said he was evil. I never saw it that way. I saw stefano dimera as a man who knew what he wanted. And he didn’t let anything stand in his way. Well, I don’t consider that evil. I think it’s smart. Something to be admired. It’s taken me a while to figure out what it is that I want, but I finally have. And chanel, I have come to realize it’s not you.

Chanel: What?

Johnny: I’m sorry, chanel. I don’t wanna be married to you anymore.

[Eerie music]

Xander: And that’s all I know so far about the day sarah left salem.

Abigail: All right. Well, you’ve given me a lot to think about. Thank you. I’m gonna go ahead and walk you out.

Xander: Hang on. I–I want to help you find her, abigail.

Abigail: I appreciate that. You’re definitely one of my sources.

Xander: No, I want to be more than a source. I want to do what ever I can to bring sarah home.

Abigail: [Sighs] Um, I just don’t think it’s a very good idea given the circumstances.

Xander: Oh, if you’re talking about me and your dad, it’s fine. We’re pals again.

Jennifer: I just want to say I’m so glad that you and jack worked things out. He loves all three of his children so much, and I know how much it means to him to have you in his life.

Jennifer: I’m sure it does. And listen, I know that it might not be easy, but I was just hoping that maybe you could stay on good terms with abigail.

Gwen: All I can say is that I will try.

Jennifer: I mean, maybe it would be easier if you and I got to know one another. I–I have been gone so long settling my mother’s estate. We never really got to work through what my mother did to you all those years ago. What happened in your room the day she died?

Gwen: Yeah, okay. I get it. All this “getting to know you” business was just setting me up.

Jennifer: Wh–what? I don’t know what you mean.

Gwen: You want to know if I killed your mom.

Ej: Chad, perhaps you’d be good enough to enlighten me. I’m not counting on it, though, since you were the one telling kate to remain silent. Seems you’re going to have to spill the proverbial beans.

Kate: All right. I’ll tell you. It’s about lucas.

Marlena: Johnny, how good to see you.

Johnny: It’s good to see you too.

Johnny: Hey, grandpa john.

John: Hey, kid.

Marlena: And to what do we owe the pleasure?

Johnny: Of me being here? I–I had to see how you were doing.

John: See? It’s not just me. Everyone wants to make sure that you’re all right.

Marlena: You know, I don’t think I’ve seen you since christmas.

Johnny: Yeah. And that wasn’t exactly a fun day.

John: That’s a fact. But it’s a new year, so that horrible ordeal is behind us now.

Xander: Look, I can understand why you don’t like the idea of me and gwen being together.

Abigail: I don’t give a damn about that. What you do in your personal life, none of my business.

Xander: And yet you say that me helping you find sarah is a bad idea. What aren’t you telling me, abigail?

Abigail: [Sighs] Look, I just came from my parents’ house. Gwen was there, and I happened to mention that I was going to be looking into sarah’s disappearance. She accused me of trying to create trouble between the two of you regardless of me trying to convince her that I was actually concerned whether or not my cousin was alive and well. So for whatever reason, she didn’t believe me.

Xander: [Sighs]

Jack: Gwen, jennifer’s not accusing you of doing anything to cause laura’s death.

Gwen: The police questioned me that day. I told them everything that happened.

Jennifer: Yes, but you never told me. I didn’t mean to put you on the defensive. That was not my intention. I just want to hear what you told the police.

Gwen: All right. The truth is that I was in quite a state. When I discovered that your mother had paid off my mother to disappear, that decision completely changed the course of my life. So I was quite displeased when laura showed up at my door. And the truth is, yes, we did argue quite a bit, but laura getting hurt, getting killed… that was an accident. I swear, jennifer, it was an accident. I never intended any harm upon your mother, and I only hope that you can believe me.

Marlena: What just happened? Are you all right?

Johnny: Um, yeah. Yeah, I’m fine, grandma. I’ve just been a little off since I got back from italy. Probably just jet lag.

Marlena: Well, but recovering shouldn’t take that long.

John: You made that trip with your girlfriend, right?

Johnny: I did, yeah. But chanel is not my girlfriend anymore.

John: What?

Johnny: She’s my wife.

John: What?

Marlena: Oh! You’re kidding.

Johnny: No. Yeah, no. We got married while we were in italy.

John: Kid, kind of sudden, isn’t it?

Johnny: You know what? Chanel and I, we really love each other. And yeah, we could’ve waited ’til we got back here, but seemed a lot more romantic to tie the knot in italy, you know?

Marlena: And to the groom, we say congratulations.

Johnny: Thank you, grandma.

John: Well, you know, allie just keeps telling us what a fantastic person chanel is.

Johnny: That’s true.

John: Yeah.

Abigail: I sure felt like I was.

Xander: Nah, it’s me. She’s not happy that I’m trying to figure out what happened to sarah, even though I keep telling her that it’s over between me and sarah.

Abigail: And she’s not buying it?

Xander: I told her the same thing you did, but I just want to know sarah’s all right, you know, for maggie’s sake.

Abigail: For maggie. Really?

Xander: Yeah, really. Maggie already lost one daughter this last year. I’d hate to see her go through that again. That’s the only reason I’m looking for sarah.

Abigail: You sure?

Xander: I’m with gwen now, and I’m gonna make her see it.

Abigail: Okay. Well, you’ve got your work cut out for you.

Xander: Well, that’s my problem. Are you gonna let me help you?

Abigail: I suppose I could use someone doing the leg work. I do have a daily paper to get out.

Xander: How do we start?

Abigail: I want to know how she left. I want to know where she went. I mean, apparently maggie said her car is still parked in the kiriakis garage.

Xander: Well, she did have frequent-flyer miles with three different airlines that fly out of the salem airport.

Abigail: How do you know?

Xander: We were planning a honeymoon.

Abigail: Right. Well, we could look at her trip history if we had her username and passwords.

Xander: We do. Right here.

Gwen: Your silence speaks volumes.

Jennifer: No, gwen, please. Please. Please, don’t go. I–I just–I needed just a minute. It’s hard to hear about the end of my mother’s life.

Gwen: Of course.

Jennifer: But I do believe you.

Gwen: Really?

Jennifer: Yeah.

Gwen: Thank you. Thank you.

Jennifer: You don’t have to thank me.

Gwen: Regardless of how i felt about laura, you loved her, and I know that that must have been a hideous way to lose her.

Jennifer: I did love her. I know she wasn’t a perfect person. My mother really struggled with mental illness when I was young, and… there’s something else. Our marriage was really on shaky ground when your mother showed up, and that was really upsetting for my mother. So she told me that she lied to your mother because she wanted jack and i to be happy. But you are not to blame for that. That is no excuse for the way that she treated you, and I am so, so sorry for that.

Chad: I had a very good reason to keep you from finding out about sammy and lucas.

Ej: Really? I’d think you’d be reveling in my unhappiness.

Chad: Personally, sure. I’ll always do what’s best for the company. I mean, the last time sammy cheated on you with lucas, you kidnapped her, so god knows what you’re gonna do next.

Ej: [Chuckles] The problem with your reasoning is that I did not have samantha kidnapped.

Chad: That’s your story and you’re sticking to it?

Ej: I swear to you. I did not do it. And I’m sorry to inform you that the person who did is lucas.

Kate: Lucas? Where the hell is that coming from?

Ej: I don’t have any proof yet.

Chad: Surprise, surprise.

Ej: But I know lucas kidnapped samantha and framed me for it, and now chad is taking advantage of that so he can remain in charge of the company. I advise you to think about something. I gave you your job here. How long do you think it will be before he sacks everyone I hired? If I were you, I wouldn’t let him get away with that.

Marlena: So you had a chance to tell your mom about the elopement?

Johnny: Before she left with lucas? Yeah.

John: And I take it that she wasn’t real happy about that.

Johnny: I hope she and lucas stay gone long enough for her to cool off. Still got to deal with dad, but–

Marlena: So he didn’t congratulate you and welcome your wife into the family?

Johnny: No way. But I mean after what he did to my mom, I could care less what he thinks.

Marlena: You think he kidnapped sammy?

Johnny: You don’t?

Marlena: Well, I would say it looks bad.

Johnny: It looks that way because he did it.

John: Johnny, you know that he’s gonna go to prison if he’s found guilty.

Johnny: Good. Chanel and i don’t have to face him across the breakfast table. I don’t want anything to do with him or his money, and I’m giving back everything he sunk into the movie so he’s got nothing to do with that either.

John: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Back up a second. You’re not still thinking about making that movie, are you?

Abigail: So sarah did not fly from the salem airport.

Xander: Nah, all we really know is that she didn’t use frequent-flyer miles to purchase the ticket.

Abigail: Okay, so she might have still flown from here, or–or she could’ve taken an airport bus out to o’hare.

Xander: Or a train anywhere.

Abigail: But if she paid cash for her ticket, then there’s no way we’re gonna be able to track her.

Xander: There must be a way. She left home. She didn’t use her car.

Abigail: She might have rented one. They would have a record.

Xander: Your family owns a newspaper. Can’t you just get all the passenger lists for that day?

Abigail: Well, I would have to convince them that the public had a right to that information, and I don’t really think I’ll be able to make a case for that.

Xander: Well, maggie has a right, doesn’t she?

Abigail: Okay, um, let’s look at this another way. So the night before the wedding, the night that you left sarah, was there anything off about her at all? Just–just really think hard.

Xander: I mean, she was as happy as I was. Honestly, I just wish that i hadn’t let her talk me into sleeping at the inn that night.

Abigail: Did she just want to keep things traditional?

Xander: No, it was more that, you know, she was just superstitious, didn’t want to tempt fate. She even shooed me out before chloe could deliver the wedding dress. Didn’t want me to see that.

Abigail: Hm. And you’re sure she was telling you the truth about why she wanted to get rid of you?

Xander: I’m sure. And then the next morning she’s just–it was like she was another person.

Abigail: I am at a loss here. Ugh. Well, there is– there’s another way I could track her.

Xander: What? Tell me.

Abigail: I mean, if she happened to charter a private plane, but that just doesn’t sound like sarah.

Xander: No, I agree, but like I say, she was another person that day.

Jennifer: When your mom came here, I was in the kitchen giving abigail supper, and I wonder what would have happened if I would have answered the door instead of my mom.

Gwen: Do you think you would’ve done something differently? You would have invited jack’s bastard child into your home?

Jennifer: I can’t say for sure, but I would really like to believe that I would’ve thought about it rationally and realized that no matter how I thought about jack’s behavior, that you are not to blame in any of this, and I would like to think that we would’ve talked about it and made you a part of our lives, gwen.

Gwen: Well, it’s pretty to think so anyway.

Jennifer: But what I couldn’t do then, I can do right now. And I want you to know when we come back, you are always welcome in this house.

Gwen: Thank you.

Jack: My wife is not in the habit of saying things she doesn’t mean, so we’re gonna be in touch when we get to boston. And if you need anything–

Ej: And I rewarded you with a position that allowed you to demonstrate your worth to the company. If you can prove that lucas framed me, I can convince shin to put me back in charge, and your position here will be much more secure than it is at the moment.

Chad: That’s not true. Kate and I, we go way back, don’t we? As long as I’m here, she’ll have a job here.

Kate: Sorry, ej, but I know my son. I know lucas isn’t capable of kidnapping the mother of his children and keeping her imprisoned for months. Chad has no reason to do it, so that just leaves one person who is capable of doing that, and that would be you.

Paulina: Oh. I saw the headlines about ej getting arrested, but I figured it was white collar crime or something.

Chanel: More like dimera payback.

Paulina: Well, what do you think about that, mrs. Dimera?

Chanel: Well, my in-laws aren’t the only dysfunctional family in salem.

[Sighs] Thanks for always being there when I needed you.

[Knocking on door] Ugh, what are you doing here?

Ej: I thought we needed to talk.

Nicole: Well, now’s not a good time. I’m mourning the death of a friend.

Ej: I thought I tossed him months ago.

Nicole: You did, and you know what? As it turns out, the one who should have been tossed is you.

Ava: Let me get this straight. Somebody cut the head off of that bear that you and nicole passed back and forth, and… you think it was me?

Rafe: Was it?

[Tense music]

Ava: [Chuckles]

[Scissors snap] Why would I do a thing like that to something that means so much to you and nicole?

Rex: Oh, sorry about…that.

Xander: There’s no harm done. Actually, matter of fact, can I buy you a beer?

Rex: [Sighs]

Gwen: You’re working on a story about sarah horton?

Abigail: I just decided. Yeah, aunt maggie hasn’t been able to reach sarah, and she’s starting to think that something might really be wrong, because her phone is no longer in service.

Jennifer: Okay, so that is why xander stopped by steve and kayla’s when we were there.

Jack: Steve had just agreed to take another case, so i assume he’s not gonna be able to help find sarah.

Abigail: Well, then I guess it’s up to me to find her.

Gwen: What? Why on earth would you do that?

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Kate: Well, I’ve seen power change hands here once or twice. I’d advise you not to be too cocky.

Chad: Wait, ej was the one that was cocky. No, I’m not gonna feel guilty for enjoying his downfall. He brought it on himself.

Kate: So, you think that he arranged for sami’s kidnapping?

Chad: Well, I mean, it sure looks that way based on the evidence.

Kate: Yeah, the evidence you found in the company ledgers and promptly brought to shin?

Chad: And I would’ve been negligent if I hadn’T. Ej was using company funds to pay for a personal vendetta.

Kate: Yeah, well, I mean, that just seems so incredibly stupid and, you know, easily traceable. You know, kinda surprising. Added to the fact that the discovery was so conveniently timed.

Chad: Are you accusing me of cooking the books to get ej?

Ej: So, you’re still angry with me?

Nicole: [Chuckles] Why would I be angry? Hm? Just because you unceremoniously dumped me behind my back? Ugh! But you know what? I really don’t wanna get into that right now, because like I said, now is not a good time.

Ej: Because you’re mourning a stuffed animal?

Nicole: At least he had sentimental value.

Ej: [Chuckles] Clearly. After I threw him in the trash, you, what, fished him out?

Nicole: Yeah, I fished him out. And who the hell are you to throw something out that belongs to me?

Ej: The bear was a connection between you and rafe, a connection you said you wanted to break. I thought you meant it.

Nicole: Oh, and I thought you meant it when you said you were done with samantha. But I guess you took her back in, even though she cheated on you. I guess–I guess she does have some redeeming qualities, right? I mean, she’s obnoxious and self-absorbed, and not to mention, she likes to behead stuffed animals.

Ej: [Laughs] You think samantha’s responsible for that?

Nicole: Who else would do something so loony? I’m telling you, that woman is starting to scare the hell out of me.

Ava: I really don’t know why you would think I would destroy a cute little stuffed bear. He never did anything to me.

Rafe: It’s not him. It’s what he represents.

Ava: Which is?

Rafe: My friendship with nicole. You know, you haven’t exactly made it a secret that it bothers you.

Ava: You and nicole keep telling me I don’t have anything to worry about, and I believe you.

Rafe: Okay. Good.

Ava: Although if you think I mutilated poor old duke, then has something changed? Do I have a reason to be jealous?

Rex: Why would you wanna buy me a beer?

Xander: Well, the last time you and I ran into each other, we didn’t get to finish our conversation.

Rex: We did as far as I’m concerned.

Xander: Look, rex, I– I loved sarah, and I still don’t really understand what happened with you two, so…

[Sighs] Come on, it’s one beer. What could be the harm?

Abigail: Sarah’s my cousin, gwen. She’s family. Why shouldn’t I help find her?

Gwen: [Sighs] I mean, you’re–you’re a reporter, you’re not a private detective.

Abigail: Well, I can draw attention to the fact that nobody knows where sarah is, not even her own mother.

Gwen: She’s a grown woman, right? She’s a doctor, isn’t she? I mean, she said to rex that– that she–she wanted to have time to work on herself. Obviously that means that she wanted to have that time to work alone.

Abigail: Gwen, that was almost a year ago.

Gwen: Yeah, but, you know, when you’re having a difficult time, you don’t wanna tell your mum all the details, do you? Why imagine the worst?

Abigail: I promised aunt maggie that I would try to find out where sarah is, and I intend to live up to that promise.

Gwen: Oh, please, that is not what this is about, and you know it. You were just trying to get back at me.

Rafe: Ava, you have nothing to worry about. Nicole and I, we’re just– we’re old friends. That’s all.

Ava: Okay, so, why corner me about the bear?

Rafe: Listen, you said that you were going to basic black the other day to see nicole.

Ava: To invite her over for new year’s eve. And when I got there, she was out, so I left, without laying a hand on the bear.

Rafe: Okay, okay, fine. I’m sorry, all right. It’s just, uh, I’m a cop. You had means, opportunity.

Ava: But no motive. Nicole has been a really good friend to me, and you are the man that I love. I would never do anything to hurt either one of you. And I know that neither one of you would do anything to hurt me.

Ej: Believe me, I know samantha can be vindictive. I just can’t imagine her taking her revenge on a stuffed animal.

Nicole: Well, sami doesn’t want me to forget how much she hates me.

Ej: I think she conveys that rather clearly with her words.

Nicole: [Scoffs] Okay, you don’t wanna take me seriously, fine, but don’t come crying to me when you find a horse’s head in your bed some night.

Ej: If you really think samantha did this, I’ll just ask her.

Nicole: [Chuckles]

Ej: [Clears throat] As soon as we’re on speaking terms again.

Nicole: Well, that won’t be for a while. Sami left town.

Ej: Excuse me?

Nicole: Oh, you didn’t know? Sami packed up and rode off into the sunset with lucas by her side.

Kate: I mean, ej’s a lot of things, but he’s very rarely careless. I find it very hard to believe that he would leave a paper trail for you to follow.

Chad: Well, kate, it’s not like the, uh–it’s not like the payments were in a file labeled “samantha’s kidnapping,” right? There was a–a fair amount of digging that was involved.

Kate: Uh-huh. So what prompted that digging?

Chad: Well, uh, the kidnapper told the cops that–that, uh, ej was the mastermind, so, for the sake of the company, I decided to find out if it was true. I wasn’t gonna let him take all of us down with him.

Kate: I see. Well, I mean, that makes sense, you know. [Chuckles] But I don’t believe it. So why don’t you just tell me the truth? You planted the evidence, didn’t you?

Abigail: Gwen. [Scoffs] I wanna find my cousin, okay? This has nothing to do with you.

Gwen: But it has everything to do with xander, okay? The man that I love. Now, he was hurt terribly by sarah, and all of this is just gonna stir up all those memories again.

Jack: Wait a minute, let me see if I hear you correctly. You are saying that abigail should forget that sarah’s missing and make no effort to help locate her, because you’re thinking that it’ll make it easier for xander?

Gwen: Yes, he’s gonna have to read about it in the paper, in “the spectator” every day, and what good is that gonna do? It’s just a local paper anyway.

Abigail: A big story like that could get picked up by a chicago paper.

Jack: Or the wire service!

Gwen: What big story? Come on. Sarah decided at the last minute that she did not want to marry xander.

Abigail: And that’s the reason that he’s with you now.

Gwen: How dare you?

Abigail: That’s why you don’t want sarah to be found.

Gwen: Oh, my god. Do you hear that? Do you hear that? She’s out to get me.

Abigail: Ugh, you always think that I’m the source of all your problems.

Gwen: Because you are always trying to undermine me. You are always trying to keep me from the people that I love. You first did it with our father…

Jack: That is not true!

Gwen: And now you’re doing it with xander, and I will be damned if I let you succeed.

Rex: And when sarah and i met up to go to the airport, she dumped me, just like I told you before.

Xander: Do you remember her exact words?

Rex: She said that she realized that she was not prepared to spend the rest of her life with any man, that she just needed some time to figure out what she did want.

Xander: I mean, it just doesn’t make any sense. All right, the night I left sarah before the wedding, we were so happy. We couldn’t wait to get married. And then she torpedoed all of that to be with you. And then what? The next day she does another 180? I mean, that’s not the sarah I know.

Rex: I don’t– I don’t understand it either. But I’ll tell you this, she had her mind made up. She basically warned me not to come looking for her.

Xander: This whole situation is…

Rex: Bizarre?

Xander: Right? Especially when you factor in the whole kristen, susan bit.

Rex: What are you talking about?

Xander: [Sighs]

Rafe: Why don’t we just go on home, okay?

Ava: Okay, you know what? I think that you owe me an apology first, ’cause I am offended that you would think that I would do something so deranged.

Rafe: Okay. Okay, you’re right. All right, I’m sorry, okay? I am sorry that, uh, I was suspicious of you.

Ava: Thank you.

Rafe: You know what? For whatever it’s worth, nicole thinks it’s sami that did it, and she’s probably right.

Ava: Huh. You know, now that you mention it, I did see a bottle blonde getting onto the elevator as I was leaving. I didn’t get a close look, but I suppose it could’ve been sami.

Rafe: Oh, yeah? Do you remember what time it was?

Ava: No. Why do you ask?

Rafe: ‘Cause there’s security cameras all over that building, so maybe I can get a closer look at, uh, whatever you saw.

Ej: Samantha… and lucas?

[Scoffs] You must be joking.

Nicole: Rafe heard it from allie. And she said that sami decided that she wants to be with lucas. You know, her first love. So they left town so they could be alone together.

Ej: I–I can’t believe this. I–I mean, I knew samantha was upset with me, but to go running back to lucas?

Nicole: Oh, yeah. It kinda reminds me of– of our situation, you know, you running back to sami. The only difference is I really don’t care. In fact, I’m relieved to be rid of you.

Ej: It’s insane.

Nicole: That I’m relieved to be rid of you?

Ej: That samantha went back to lucas. He was the one who had had her kidnapped.

Nicole: According to the police, that would be you.

Ej: You said you believed me.

Nicole: I also believed you when you said that you were done with sami and you wanted to be with me, but, what– what the hell do I know, right?

Ej: I did not have samantha kidnapped. It was lucas. That little weasel set me up.

Nicole: You got any proof?

Ej: No, but I–

Nicole: No, no, yeah. Well, I guess the evidence is piling up. And the dimera board thinks so too now that you’re out of a job.

Ej: [Chuckles] The latest so-called evidence is nothing but a pack of lies that were manufactured by my own brother.

Chad: I had no reason to plant the evidence. Really?

Kate: Hm.

Chad: Kate, you think that I’m that vindictive?

Kate: [Laughs] Well, I mean, I do know that you were very bothered by the fact that ej was able to worm his way into johnny’s movie, which meant that he would’ve been having sex scenes with abigail.

Chad: Yeah, and he did that to get under my skin.

Kate: It worked. So, framing ej would be perfect payback.

Chad: Yep, you are right. After everything ej has done, I would be completely justified in planting the evidence against him. But I didn’T. So, maybe this conversation should just be over then.

Kate: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. This is a very dangerous game that you’re playing, because if ej can prove what you’ve done–

Chad: He can’t, because I didn’t!

Kate: [Sighs] I want you to swear on your father’s grave that you’re telling me the truth. Oh! I knew it. I knew it.

Chad: Okay, you know what? Yeah, fine, you know what? Yeah, the evidence was planted. But guess what, it wasn’t by me. It was by lucas. That’s right, it was your son. -We are here! -For new homeowners,

Jack: Gwen? Gwen? Would you please calm down? Abigail is not trying to come between you and xander.

Gwen: God, you’re taking her side. Why am I not surprised?

Jack: I’m not taking anyone’s side. This is a bad situation. We’re very worried that something terrible might have happened to sarah.

Abigail: I swear to you, I am only looking into sarah’s disappearance because I’m genuinely worried about her.

Ava: And if it wasn’t for the two of us, right, she’d be in statesville right now. She’s not gonna double-cross us.

Gwen: I helped her escape, because she said to me that if I didn’t, she would go and tell xander where sarah is. If she finds her–

Ava: Okay, I’m telling you, no one is gonna find her, okay? You don’t need to worry.

Abigail: I–I–I think I should go now, so…

Jennifer: Uh…

Jack: Um…

Abigail: That little paper in boston is so lucky to be getting the two of you. I hope you have a wonderful time. Make it successful again. And just remember your promise that you’re both coming back here soon?

Jennifer: Absolutely, baby.

Jack: Absolutely, and you tell the kids again how much we love them, and please bring them out to see us.

Abigail: Of course, yeah, as soon as you get settled, so…

Jennifer: I love you so much, baby.

Abigail: I love you too.

Jack: Goodbye, sweetheart.

Abigail: Dad, see ya.

Jack: Love you.

Abigail: Sorry.

Jack: It’s all right.

Jennifer: Um, I’m gonna walk you out.

Jack: Okay.

[Sighs] Gwen? Gwen? What’s really going on here? Why are you so afraid that you’re gonna lose xander?

Xander: And while kristen was pretending to be susan, she tipped me off about you and sarah being in bed together.

Rex: Wait, so you didn’t know you were hearing it from kristen?

Xander: Yeah, not until susan told me a few weeks ago. I went straight to the police to have it out with kristen. I had to know if she had something to do with sarah leaving me.

Rex: Well, what did she say?

Xander: That she didn’T. That she only did it for the pure satisfaction of being the one to break the bad news to me.

Rex: That would be kristen.

Xander: I can’t believe i fell for her act.

Rex: Hm. She’s creative, I’ll give her that. You know, the dimera’s have this secret deserted island that they use to get rid of people permanently. Kristen was planning on shipping my mother off there.

Xander: What, she thought kate’s family wouldn’t notice that she was gone?

Rex: No, no, she had that covered too. She had this–this mask that made her look exactly like my mom. She wore my mom’s clothes. She showed up here to break up with jake dimera loudly. My dad was telling me that she wanted everyone in here to– to hear her say, “I’m through with jake, I’m through with salem, and I’m–I’m leaving town.”

Xander: So, the story would get around, and no one would ask any questions about where kate was, at least for a while?

Rex: Yep. It’s a nifty way to get rid of someone who figures out what you’re up to. You’re lucky it didn’t happen to you.

Kate: Nope, nope. Lucas wouldn’t do that, not even to ej.

Chad: Yep, I caught him red-handed. I walked in, and he was sitting at that computer.

Kate: He doesn’t have a password, chad.

Chad: He had yours, kate.

Kate: Ugh! Oh, my god.

Chad: Yep. He was the one that made it look like ej was using company funds to pay off sami’s kidnapper.

Kate: Are you sure?

Chad: I am positive. I confronted him. He said that it would be in both of our best interests if we let ej take the fall.

Kate: Oh, my god, so, he wanted ej out of the way so he’d have a chance with sami?

Chad: Mm-hmm.

Kate: Which actually worked, because sami turned her back on ej, and lucas and sami left salem this morning. I–

[Sighs] Oh, my god. But what I don’t get is why would lucas go through all the trouble of framing ej? I mean, they pressed charges against ej already for the kidnapping.

Chad: Well, he was charged, but I don’t think he’s guilty.

Kate: Okay, what does that mean?

Chad: It means that I’m pretty sure that the kidnapper was lucas.

Nicole: So, chad actually framed you, huh?

Ej: Do you honestly believe I’d be sloppy enough to leave a paper trail?

Nicole: No.

Ej: Chad concocted those payments to samantha’s kidnapper, so he could put the final nail in my coffin. He’s always wanted to run the company on his own. But he knew shin would never get rid of me.

Nicole: So, in your version of events, lucas kidnapped sami. Then why did the hired goon point the finger at you?

Ej: On lucas’s orders, I’m sure.

Nicole: And chad phonied up evidence to make you look guiltier?

[Chuckles] That is some conspiracy theory.

Ej: I’m telling you, I’m innocent. I didn’t have samantha kidnapped, so therefore I’d have no reason to make those payments.

Nicole: I don’t care…

Ej: [Scoffs]

Nicole: Okay? ‘Cause it’s over between us, both personally and professionally, and now that you’re out at dimera, I suggest you leave before I have you thrown out.

Ej: Not until I do what I came here to do.

Nicole: [Sighs] I shudder at what that would be.

Ej: I have to tell you how sorry I am for hurting you. I’m praying that you’ll find it in your heart to forgive me.

Ava: Sorry, rafe, I was– I was just rushing around. I have no idea what time I left nicole’s office.

Rafe: That’s okay. It’s fine. Actually, you know, all I have to do is look at the footage from the one camera that covers the elevator, and I’ll just– I’ll scroll through the last 24 hours.

Ava: Are you seriously gonna go to all that trouble over a stuffed bear?

Rafe: It could have been someone sending a message to nicole.

Ava: You just said yourself that it was probably sami, so, what are you gonna do if you see her on those tapes? Are you gonna arrest her?

Rafe: No, I’m not–no, I’m not gonna arrest her. I’m not gonna do anything, because she left town this morning.

Ava: Oh, well, then you better call the isa, because the stuffed bear killer is on the loose.

Rafe: Okay, I overreacted, all right? But cutting up that bear, it’s a little juvenile and petty, even for sami.

Ava: Excuse me? Nicole slept with sami’s husband.

Rafe: Estranged husband.

Ava: I don’t care. I mean, if you ask me, nicole is lucky sami didn’t do much worse.

[Tense music]

Rex: Well, look, I have a flight to catch, and I haven’t even packed yet.

Xander: Going back to chicago?

Rex: Yes, my doctors without borders tour is over.

Xander: I just wanna thank you for making the time to talk to me. Wasn’t that bad, right?

Rex: Beer makes you easier to take.

Xander: Rex? If you hear from her, will you let me know?

Rex: I will. You do the same?

Xander: Deal.

Rex: I hope you find sarah. You deserve to get some answers.

Xander: [Sighs]

Gwen: I was awful to abigail.

Jack: Yeah. Yeah, you were.

Gwen: It’s just that… I have never, ever loved anyone the way that I love xander. And nobody has ever had my back the way that he does. And, well, he makes me laugh, which is why I’m so scared of– I’m so scared of losing him.

Jack: Why? Why is that? I mean, it seems like the two of you have a really good thing going.

Gwen: He told me how much he loved sarah. He told me all about her. And if she were to come back into the picture–

Jack: Whoa, whoa, wait a minute, wait–there is something really important that you need to remember. Sarah dumped xander on the morning of their wedding, and when she did it, she told him the reason was because she realized that she could never forgive him for switching her baby with kristen’S. And you need to understand that even if sarah does come back, that’s not the sort of thing you can just forget. Why don’t you just calm down and believe that everything’s gonna work out just fine? You have nothing to worry about.

Kate: You think lucas had sami kidnapped? Lucas?

Chad: Yes, lucas. He basically admitted it.

Kate: [Stammers] Why? Why would–why?

Chad: Why? To keep sami away from ej. What do you think? You know–you know how much lucas loves sami, and love makes you do really crazy stuff.

Kate: No, no, no, no, no, no, I–no, I–no. I don’t believe it.

Chad: Look, I know that it’s hard right now, especially after what happened with philip.

Kate: What do you mean by that?

Chad: Well, you know, one son went missing, and then the other one kidnapped his ex-wife. So, must be a very hard time for you.

Kate: It is a hard time for me, because this means that I’ve failed two sons.

Chad: Well, I mean… I’m not gonna tell anybody. So, the truth never has to come out.

Kate: Yeah, well, maybe it should.

Nicole: Thank you for your apology. But as far as me forgiving you, that’s gonna be a hard no.

Ej: I know I made a mistake.

Nicole: Oh, a mistake? You humiliated me in front of sami, and you let her prance around and gloat that you chose her over me again.

Ej: Everything was happening so fast.

Nicole: Oh, okay. Sami said that you ripped up the divorce papers before you were arrested. Was she lying?

Ej: No, I–

Nicole: No, no. Okay, do you remember christmas day? Remember me taking time away from my daughter to come see you in jail? Do you remember the very long conversation we had about, “who could possibly have railroaded you”? And do you remember in that conversation, we were talking about sami being kidnapped, and it didn’t occur to you to tell me that you weren’t gonna get a divorce?

Ej: I was focused on proving my innocence.

Nicole: Oh, and you couldn’t stop thinking about yourself long enough to tell me that you were gonna work it out with your wife?

Ej: I realize now that was wrong of me.

Nicole: Congratulations. I know. I know why you kept your mouth shut about sami. Just in case she dumped you. Well, she did. And now you’ve come crawling back to me. Well, I am sorry to disappoint you, because I sure as hell will not be your consolation prize. Hi susan! Honey?

Jack: Let’s not forget that xander found sarah in bed with rex on the morning of what was supposed to be their wedding, and she told him she wanted him out of her life. Why would he want her back now?

Gwen: Why wouldn’t he?

Jack: [Laughs] Because he cares deeply for you. He covered for you when that whole mess came up about the drug running.

Gwen: He did that for you. He did, he–he–he wanted you to think well of me.

Jack: You don’t know that.

Gwen: Yes, I do. He told me.

Jack: That man was ready to go back to prison for you. For you. He wouldn’t give up his freedom for some girl he cares nothing about. I know him. I know how deeply he loves you. There’s nothing in the world, not even sarah, that’s gonna change that.

Ava: Oh, hey, did you get a warrant for sami brady’s arrest?

Rafe: No, I resisted that temptation.

Ava: Mm? Well, you were gone a long time.

Rafe: Yeah, well, I was getting you this.

Ava: [Chuckles] You already apologized.

Rafe: I did. I just wanted you to know I’m really sorry. I jumped all over you, and I made you feel like I didn’t trust you.

Ava: Yeah, well, most people don’t trust me, so, I’m used to it.

Rafe: Sorry, it’s just, uh, someone breaking into nicole’s office and destroying her personal property just made me uneasy.

Ava: Well, I wouldn’t worry about nicole too much. That’s one woman who knows how to take care of herself.

Ej: I–I should’ve told you I was thinking of reconciling with samantha. It was disrespectful and dishonest.

Nicole: And don’t forget cowardly and craven.

Ej: Hm. The whole thing was a major lapse in judgment. I–I never should have torn up those divorce papers. I shouldn’t have even entertained the thought of getting back together with her.

Nicole: [Scoffs]

Ej: But it did accomplish one thing. It made me realize that you’re the one I truly want.

Nicole: [Chuckles] Oh, yeah. Because sami dumped you for lucas.

Ej: I don’t want you because samantha is with him. I want you because you’re an extraordinary woman.

Nicole: Oh, please, would you just stop it? Please just stop. Do you know how many times I have heard that? Oh, sure, sure, you want me right now, but ultimately you will choose sami. Eric wanted me, but ultimately he chooses god. And rafe! Rafe wants me too, but you know what? In the end, he’s choosing ava. Do you know how sick and tired I am of men wanting it both ways? When is someone gonna put me first?

Ej: Nicole–

Nicole: You know what, no, just, mm–just leave, okay?

Ej: No, I think we should talk about this.

Nicole: I don’t want to talk about it. I’m calling security.

Ej: Please don’t do that. Please.

Nicole: Fine. You stay. I’ll leave.

Kate: I mean, of course I don’t wanna betray lucas. I mean, that is the last thing I wanna do. But to frame ej? I mean, he didn’t do this.

Chad: Okay, look, lucas finally has everything that he’s wanted for so long. He has sami back. Yet if you take that away from him, he is never gonna forgive you. I mean, ever. And more importantly, you’re probably gonna be sending him to prison, or bayview if–if he plans on, you know, pleading temporary insanity. Would you really do that to your own son?

Kate: No! Of course I wouldn’T.

Chad: Okay.

Kate: I mean, really? The point is are we gonna send ej to prison for something he didn’t do? I mean, actually he doesn’t deserve that.

Chad: Look, sure, ej may not have kidnapped sami, but it’s not like he is some noble, wonderful guy. I mean, you know damn well that he’s ruthless and corrupt, and he’s caused a lot of pain to a lot of people. You think lucas is– is a good guy, right? I mean, sure, he went off the rails a little bit with this whole kidnapping thing, but he did it for love. He’s a–he’s a devoted father and a loving son. I mean…

Kate: [Sighs]

Chad: Or do you disagree?

Jennifer: Is everything okay in here?

Gwen: [Clears throat] Yes, um, I just wanted to say that I’m sorry for how I– I treated abigail. I’m– I know today has been a very difficult day for the three of you, and I’ve made it a lot harder.

Jack: If you need anything, you need me to stick around? Put off the flight to boston.

Jennifer: Yeah, we can.

Gwen: No, you don’t need to do that. And I promise I will stay out of abigail’s way.

Jack: If you need anything, call me.

Gwen: Thanks, jack.

Gwen: [Chuckles] Thanks, dad.

Ava: Okay, well, best be going then.

Jack: You remember what I told you. Sarah made her choice. She left xander of her own free will, and he knows it.

Abigail: What are you doing here?

Xander: Well, maggie said that you were maybe looking into what happened with sarah?

Abigail: Right, yeah, I am.

Xander: I wanna help.

Abigail: You know, I was gonna call you, actually. I’m hoping that you’ll tell me everything you remember about the day that sarah left town.

Xander: I was just talking to rex about that day. He was probably the last person to see her.

Abigail: Tell me everything that you know.

Xander: [Sighs]

Kate: If I keep lucas’s secret, and roman finds out that I let sami leave town with her kidnapper, he’s never gonna forgive me.

Chad: Whoa, okay, first of all, you keep calling lucas her kidnapper. You–you know as well as I do that–that lucas would never hurt sami. I mean, he’s crazy about her. And secondly, you know, you’re worried about roman finding out the truth, so, you’re gonna choose your own happiness over your own son, your own blood?

Kate: That’s not fair at all. I’m thinking of lucas too, chad.

Chad: Yeah? How?

Kate: How? Lucas kidnapped sami. He kept her a prisoner for a long time. That’s not like him. He might need professional help.

Chad: Well, you know, he didn’t seem unbalanced at all when I talked to him.

Kate: [Sighs]

Chad: You–you know as well as I do that sami’s in a sick relationship with ej, so, in my opinion, just in my opinion, I think he did what it–what it took to break ej’s hold on sami, you know, because he loves her so much. So if roman finds out, you just– you just tell him that. The best thing that you can do for lucas is just pretend that we never had this conversation.

Kate: Really? I don’t think I can keep quiet about this.

Jennifer: You’re not talking very much. Are you having second thoughts?

Jack: I have been thinking… and I’ve decided that our baby will be in good hands with our other baby.

Jennifer: I agree. I agree, jack.

Abigail: Psst. Happy new year, aunt maggie.

Maggie: Oh, it is so good to see you. Happy new year to you too, my darling.

Abigail: I hope it’s okay I came over here this early on a holiday.

Maggie: Oh, you know you’re always welcome here, but I did wonder you wanted to talk to me. You sounded pretty urgent on the phone.

Abigail: Yeah, I just wanted to tell you about a story we’re working on that’s a little sensitive.

Maggie: Oh, okay.

Abigail: It’s about philip’s disappearance. The paper decided they wanted to focus on that, and I just wanted to give you and victor a heads-up.

Maggie: I see. I see. Well, I’m glad you told me that.

Abigail: And I want to let you to know that if we do find out anything, anything that could upset victor, that I will let you know. That way he doesn’t have to read about it in the paper.

Maggie: That’s very thoughtful of you. Let me ask you something, okay? While you’re out trying to find out what happened to philip, would you help me find sarah?

Gwen: Bloody…what?

Xander: I know.

Gwen: Know what?

Xander: That you played dumb. It’s over. I know where sarah is. She’s been there for months, and you knew about it all along.

Gwen: I can explain.

Xander: Explain what? How you kept your mouth shut while the woman I love, the woman you know that I love is out there somewhere being terrorized by a sociopath?

Gwen: Xander, no, wait…no.

Xander: And you also knew that sarah never betrayed me with rex. No, that was that lunatic kristen who orchestrated that, and she told you all about it. Didn’t she? Didn’t she?

Gwen: Yes.

Xander: You decided i didn’t need to know about that. It didn’t fit in with your plans for me to know about that, did it?

Gwen: Please, please, you have to hear my side of things. Kristen threatened me, and I– I just loved you. I loved you so much, and i thought that you loved me too.

Xander: That was before I knew who you were, what you were, I mean. My god, no wonder your own father doesn’t want anything to do with you. I thought I was a bad person. I want you out of this room today.

Gwen: Where are you going?

Xander: Where the hell do you think I’m going? To find sarah.

Rafe: You seemed upset when I came in; is everything okay?

Ava: Yeah. We’re out of espresso, I had to settle for a regular.

Rae: I can go to the store and get more.

Ava: It’s a holiday.

Rafe: Right. It’s just that the look on your face seemed more intense than, “I don’t like this coffee,” so you sure there’s not something else?

Ava: Don’t you know by now I overreact to most things? So what are we gonna do today? Should we do something with gabi and jake?

Rafe: You’re voluntarily offering to spend time with my sister?

Ava: It’s the holidays; we are supposed to spend time with family. Okay, we can invite over tripp and allie and henry, maybe nicole and holly.

Rafe: Do you know what? Actually, I was hoping that you and i could just spend time together alone for once, you know, watch the parades, maybe you can condescend to me while I watch football.

Ava: [Chuckles] Sounds wonderful.

Rafe: Okay.

[Phone rings]

Ava: It’s nicole.

Rafe: Yeah. I’ll call her back later.

Ava: No, you should get it. It’s a holiday. She wouldn’t call you if it wasn’t important.

Rafe: Okay. Nicole, what’s up?

Nicole: Oh, rafe, I need you to come over to basic black. It’s an emergency.

Rafe: Uh…all right. Well, I’ll be right there. Yeah. She says it’s an emergency.

Ava: Oh. Well, then you better go.

Rafe: You sure?

Ava: Yeah, of course. Go. Go, go. We can–we can catch up later.

Abigail: So xander told you that rex and sarah left salem but not together. And they’ve not been together since they left?

Maggie: Right. And now her phone is out of service.

Abigail: Okay. Well, have you gone to the police with any of this?

Maggie: Yeah, I called shawn.

Abigail: And?

Maggie: Well, he said that since sarah left town on her own free will and that since she has contacted me that it would be really hard to classify her as a missing person.

Abigail: Right. Okay. And I imagine everything that’s going on with marlena and brady and philip that the salem pd is probably pretty swamped.

Maggie: Yeah, that’s exactly what he said. So that’s why I’m turning to you. Abigail, I’m worried. I’m really–I’m beyond worried. I’m just– I’m very frustrated that there is something very wrong. So if you and your paper could help me try to find sarah…

Abigail: Of course I can. I will do everything that I possibly can.

Maggie: Oh, well, that’s a relief. Bless you, sweetheart. And if there’s anything I can do, any questions that I can answer, I mean, if I can help you in any way in your search…

Abigail: Right. I think–I think right now the first thing I need to know is just when was the last time that you actually did hear from sarah?

Maggie: [Sighs]

Gwen: No. Sometimes I dream that I’m a little girl again. It’s not surprising I had that dream last night. Life wasn’t always great for me, but holidays were really awful.

Xander: I’m so sorry.

Abigail: No, don’t be. All I have to do is just wake up next to you, and I know that that’s all in the past and that I won’t be alone again.

Xander: Well, at least not for more than a couple of hours.

Gwen: Well, where are you going? We have all morning.

Xander: I’m sorry, but I have to go and see your uncle steve.

Gwen: On new year’s morning? Why?

Xander: I’m gonna hire him to find sarah.

Kayla: Oh, you have everything you need?

Steve: Yeah. I think so. I’m sorry, baby. This isn’t the way I wanted to start the new year.

Kayla: You can’t put it off even a couple days?

Steve: No, I’m afraid kristen might have too much of a head start already.

Kayla: You know, it’s been hammered home again and again that there’s nothing that kristen wouldn’t stoop to.

Steve: Yeah?

Kayla: But I think in her sick, weird way she really loves brady. And he is rachel’s father. I just have a hard time thinking that she would frame him for philip’s murder.

Steve: Well, maybe she has some twisted reason we are not aware of.

Kayla: And what reason would that be?

Steve: [Sighs] You know how stefano was always banging on about chess? “The move behind the move behind the move.” Maybe kristen’s making some kind of chess move.

[Doorbell rings] Hey.

Jennifer: Hi.

Kayla: So good to see you.

Jennifer: Oh, my goodness. How are you guys? Oh, wait, I hope we’re not too early.

Steve: No, no, actually, you’re just in time, because I’m on my way out of town on a work trip.

Jack: Well, that’s a coincidence, because we’re leaving salem too. This is the sound of nature breathing.

Rafe: Damn it, nicole. This better be good. What happened?

Nicole: That happened.

Ava: Happy new year, nicole. Oh, what a surprise. “Oh, my little bear has a boo-boo. I need you, rafe.” Yeah, didn’t see that one coming. Oh, and in other news, rafe goes flying to her side. Wonder if he’ll be able to find a way to comfort her. Bet they’re on that conference table as we speak.

[Knock at door] Just a minute.

Gwen: Thank god you’re here. Who were you talking to?

Ava: The gods of vengeance. What are you doing here? We can’t be seen together.

Gwen: I know; I had to come. You’re the only one who can help me.

Abigail: And so there’s nothing after this last text?

Maggie: No. I’ve left messages but nothing.

Abigail: Hmm. Could you forward these texts to me?

Maggie: Yes. Of course. See, what I– what I don’t understand is, if sarah didn’t leave town with rex, why didn’t she tell me that? It doesn’t make any sense. Sarah’s always told me everything. Well, almost; we’re very close.

Abigail: I know that. So I think I’m gonna try to get sarah’s phone records so I can find out who else she has been in contact with.

Maggie: But you’re still gonna keep looking for philip, because I’m also terribly worried about victor.

Abigail: That’s so you. Here you’re going through the same thing he is, and you’re worried about him.

Maggie: Well, for all of his blustery, he’s just not as strong as I am.

Abigail: I don’t think many people are.

Maggie: Oh. Thank you.

Abigail: Although I do hope– I hope I’ve got just a little bit of your strength, I think I’m gonna need it.

Maggie: Really?

Abigail: Oh, yeah, I’m running the whole paper now.

Maggie: Well, that’s wonderful. You’re gonna do a great job. But what about your dad?

Abigail: Well, actually, he and my mom have other plans.

Kayla: So tell us more about this boston newspaper?

Jennifer: Well, I started reading it while I was there with mike settling my mom’s estate, and I mean, it’s just a small, you know, local, old-fashioned newspaper just dedicated to local news. But apparently, it is going to go under if we don’t take it over.

Kayla: So there’s an urgency to this? You need to save the paper.

Jennifer: Yeah, definitely. And I mean the owners are relieved, not that we’re just taking it over, but that we’re going to keep it exactly the same. We’re not gonna slash the staff, we’re just gonna– just kind of beef up their tech and social media. I mean, it’s gonna be complicated for sure, but…

Jack: Yeah, I mean, small newspapers are challenged all over the country. So we just figured let abigail take care of the “spectator,” and we’ll have a new mission.

Kayla: So you’re moving.

Jennifer: Well, no, no, no, not permanently.

Jack: No.

Jennifer: We’re gonna come right back as soon as we have it going on its feet.

Jack: Right.

Steve: Good.

Kayla: Because we’ll all miss you so much. But I’m impressed. I’m so impressed as always with what you’re doing.

[Knock at door]

Jack: Oh. Hey, let me get that. Oh, xander. How did you know I was here?

Xander: I wasn’t looking for you, jack. I need to talk to steve.

Maggie: Well, I am gonna miss your folks, but the paper’s in good hands. Listen, if you don’t have time to look for sarah.

Abigail: I will make time, okay? And I’m gonna talk to xander. I understand he wasn’t real happy with her when she left.

Maggie: Well, honestly, xander’s the one who came to me. He’s very worried about sarah. But he’s moved on with someone else.

Abigail: Yeah, gwen. I know. You know, any port in a storm.

Maggie: Yeah, well, I think it’s more than that. He seems pretty serious about her.

Abigail: Well, if that’s true, god help him.

Xander: I’m sorry to interrupt, steve, but can I talk to you alone for a minute?

Jennifer: You know, actually, we’re heading out. We’re gonna meet abigail at the house before we go to the airport.

Jack: Yeah.

Xander: You’re going on a trip?

Jack: Oh, well, we bought a newspaper in boston, and we’ll be there for a while.

Xander: Leaving town? Does gwen know? Oh, wait, I know that she doesn’t know. Would you like me to tell her for you?

Jack: No.

Xander: So what, have a nice life?

Jack: Well, you have a nice life too, xander. I–look, I mean it. I mean, it. I really do hope things work out for you.

Jennifer: He really does mean it. Gwen has not made it easy for jack to have a relationship with her. He’s not the villain here.

Jennifer: Oh, gosh, now we gotta do this before I start crying.

Ava: Yes. And today I have provided him with his cover story. She called him to show him the dead body that I left in her office.

Rafe: She should be on her knees grateful for what you did.

Ava: Yep. Rafe and nicole share custody of him.

Gwen: It’s xander. He’s not gonna give up until he finds sarah.

Ava: Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Calm down; calm down. When kristen makes sure that people disappear, she’s really good at it, and so wherever she’s got sarah, she’s gonna stay there.

Gwen: Yeah, I keep telling myself that, but…

Ava: Okay, and if it wasn’t for the two of us, right, she’d be in statesville right now. She’s not gonna double-cross us.

Gwen: I helped her escape, because she said to me that if I didn’t she would go and tell xander where sarah is. If he finds her–

Ava: Okay, I’m telling you, no one is gonna find her, okay? You don’t need to worry.

Gwen: Except for the fact that xander wants to hire steve to help find her now, and he’s good, isn’t he? He’s really good.

Ava: Yeah. Yeah he’s good. Okay. You do have to worry.

Kayla: Well, I thought that sarah was working with rex for doctors without borders.

Xander: Well, he was, alone. And he had no idea that everyone here thought she was with him.

Kayla: But maggie’s heard from her, right? Does maggie know about this?

Xander: Yeah, I told her.

Kayla: She must be a wreck.

Xander: Oh, she’s pretty tough. But we both just wanna know for sure that sarah’s all right. So what do you say?

Steve: Let me ask you something. Isn’t it possible that sarah just decided to move on from your relationship?

Xander: That suddenly? On the day we were supposed to be married?

Steve: It happens.

Xander: Not in this case. And believe me, I–I really did talk myself into thinking that’s what happened, but now that I know she’s not with rex and rex has no idea where she is, I– look, I think something is very wrong.

Steve: Well, I’m sorry you’re so worried and that maggie is too. God knows I’d do anything for her, but I’m on another case; I’m on my way out of town. Maybe you should talk to my partner.

Kayla: John, after everything that he’s been through with marlena?

Xander: Well, I’m gonna ask anyway. I’m sorry, but I just have to know what happened to sarah.

Maggie: So I called melissa, nathan, and melanie, and no one has heard anything from sarah.

Abigail: Hmm, I bet they’re pretty worried now too.

Maggie: Yeah, very.

Abigail: We’re gonna find her, aunt maggie. I promise.

Ava: All right, if steve finds sarah without any involvement rom kristen, then no one is gonna know that you knew anything about what happened to her.

Gwen: Great, so xander won’t kill me, and then he’ll just ride off into the sunset with her. He’ll let me down gently and ride off into the sunset with her. And either way I– I still lose him.

Ava: Well, no, you don’t know that; he could choose you.

Gwen: Me?

Ava: Mm-hmm.

Gwen: Over the perfect, sainted dr. Horton? No, that’s very bloody unlikely.

Ava why are you selling yourself so short? What’s so special about her anyway?

Xander: You know, I just thought of something. Maybe abigail won’t want to work with me to find sarah, because of how, you know, she feels about gwen.

Maggie: Well, of course she will. Abigail is totally professional. And she can control her personal feelings.

Xander: Unlike gwen, right?

Maggie: You said it; I didn’T. Besides, abigail has already said she needs to talk to you. She’s not gonna let anything get in the way of her trying to find sarah.

Abigail: Oh, well, I only spoke with maggie. I just–I felt like it would be better for her to tell victor that we were gonna cover the disappearance of philip.

Abigail: Yeah. And I picked up another story, one that’s very important to me. It’s also very important and urgent for aunt maggie.

John: Happy new year, doc.

This is going to be our best year ever.

Marlena: Thanks to you, we have this year and many more to come. You know, I wouldn’t be here without your love.

Sami: So, what are you thinking?

Lucas: I was just thinking that this is going to be a really great year… if you meant what you said.

Sami: Yeah. I meant it, every word. I’m done with ej for good, and I wanna be with you… if you’ll have me.

Chanel: At least for you guys, it’s happy.

Allie: I thought johnny was going to be down in time to toast with us.

Chanel: That’s what he said, but obviously he’s not here, so whatever’s keeping him must be more important than his first kiss on new year’s eve with his wife.

[Ominous music]

Demon johnny: Happy new year, salem. You didn’t think you were getting rid of me that easily, did you? Oh, marlena, I can’t wait to see the look on your face when you find out I haven’t gone anywhere. And I can promise you, as well as anyone else who thought i was gone for good, it’s gonna be a hell of a new year.

[Soft orchestration]

Lucas: What do you mean “if I’ll have you”? Of course I’ll have you. I love you. You know how much I love you. You’ve always known that.

Sami: Right, but I just kept pushing you away.

Lucas: But this time is different. I mean, it is different, isn’t it?

Sami: It is different, okay? I–I know what I want now.

Lucas: All right, just to be clear, all right, you’re not kissing me and making big plans because you’re frustrated that ej kidnapped you, right? I mean, this is about us. It’s about you and me. It’s not about payback or–or revenge or–or the clock striking midnight. Okay, that was a really good answer. But–but listen to me, please. I was 100% in when we started this, when we reconnected. And you were ashamed. You were humiliated. You didn’t wanna tell anybody, and you told me you never wanted it to happen again, and now here you are.

Sami: Yeah, well, I’m all in now, okay? I just felt guilty, so guilty, for cheating on ej that it just blinded me to the truth… that I love you and I respect you, and–and you respect me, and that is so important to me. Okay? You’re my soulmate, and you always have been.

Lucas: I know that, i believe that, but do you believe that? Or are you going to go running back to ej again like you always do? And–and then he becomes your soulmate all of the sudden. Then what happens to me? What happens to me? I’m left nursing a broken heart again because of you?

Kayla: Uh, kate, I’m–I’m glad that you’re celebrating with us tonight.

Kate: So am I. It’s–it’s nice to be included.

Kayla: Well, it’s no secret that you and I have had our differences, but you make my brother happy, and so I am happy for both of you.

Roman: Speaking of which, i have business for black patch. I’m hoping I can hire you to… find kate’s son.

Allie: Maybe johnny still hasn’t forgiven me for being a jerk about you guys getting married.

Chanel: No, you heard him, it’s all good. And I know he’s really glad you guys came over to make peace.

Tripp: Maybe it’s just that he’s still not feeling well.

Chanel: Yeah, yeah, it could be that he’s sicker than he let on. You know what, I–I–I’m going to go check on him.

[Dark ambient music]

[Eerie notes]

Demon marlena: Whoa! No!

John: Doc? Doc?

Marlena: John?

John: Doc, is it really you, honey?

Marlena: It’s me. It’s me. You saved me. You all–you all saved me.

Demon johnny: That sanctimonious family and all their drivel about love. Well, they may have driven me out of marlena but her grandson is all mine now, and he and i pick up right where marlena and I left off.

[Maniacal laughter] Ah… this is the sound of nature breathing.

[Ominous music]

Chanel: Johnny? Hey. Hey, are you all right?

Johnny: Uh, yeah, yeah. Fine.

Chanel: Okay, good. I–I was afraid that you still weren’t feeling well.

Johnny: No, no, no, I’m– I’m–I’m–I’m totally fine now. It just, uh, took me a while to get dressed. How do I look?

Chanel: You look great. And that suit! That suit is fire. But johnny, you missed the midnight toast and our kiss.

Johnny: What? Is it–it’s that–it’s that late already? I’m sorry, I must have, uh, lost track of time. But, um, nothing says that you and I can’t have our new year’s moment right now. Happy new year, mrs. Dimera.

Kate: You don’t need to hire steve to–to look for philip.

Steve: Well, actually I’m already on the case.

Kate: So, what does that mean? That someone else hired you to look for philip?

Steve: I got a call from brady earlier today, and he wants me to track kristen down.

Roman: What’s that got to do with philip?

Steve: Brady and chloe believe that kristen framed brady for philip’s murder. Now, if that’s true and I can track her down, she might have the answers we’re looking for.

Sami: I know this seems out of nowhere, and I know that i can be impulsive, but lucas, I–I promise you this time it’s different, okay?

Lucas: God, I hope so.

Sami: I know so. I do. I finally see ej for who he really is. It’s what you’ve been saying to me all along. And now that I’ve seen it, I can’t unsee it. I mean, he’s the kinda man who would kidnap me and throw me in a–a locked room for months. I couldn’t see my family. I couldn’t see all the people that I love. I can’t love someone who would do that to me.

[Tense music]

I’m gonna get you back, ej. Whatever it takes. Gabi? Is anyone home?

[Gasping] Lucas? What’s wrong?

Steve: So the theory is that kristen is so mad at brady for ending things with her, she staged the whole thing.

Kate: There was so much blood.

Roman: Yeah, but, you know, whatever kristen was guilty of in the past, you know, her, uh–generally her M.O. Was not to kill. She’s more into hiding people.

Steve: That’s true. And that’s why I think that kristen is holding philip prisoner somewhere while this thing plays out.

Kate: So you believe that philip’s still alive?

Steve: That’s the premise I’m working off of. And I’ll do everything I can to bring him home to you.

Roman: You okay?

Kate: I’m–I’m sorry, I just–it’s–it’s–it’s just a lot to absorb.

[Sighs] Do you–do you mind if we just call it a night?

Kayla: Of course not.

Kate: Thank you.

Kayla: It was great to see you…

Roman: Okay.

Kayla: And happy new year.

Roman: Yeah.

Roman: [Exhales] Well, that’s great news. If anybody can find philip, steve can.

Kate: Steve’s not going to find philip.

Roman: You don’t know that for sure.

Kate: I do know it. I know exactly what happened to philip, and I know exactly where he is.

[Soft music]

Allie: This is the best new year’s I’ve had in a really, really long time, maybe ever.

Tripp: Me too.

Allie: But I am wondering what happened to chanel and johnny?

Tripp: If johnny really is sick, maybe I should go check on him.

Allie: He seemed fine before. Maybe we should give them their privacy.

Tripp: Well, that would give us a little more time to celebrate on our own.

Chanel: Hello. What are you doing?

Johnny: I’m trying to make love to my wife. Can you think of a better way to ring in the new year?

Chanel: No, but you’re the one who invited allie and tripp to stay to share a midnight toast that you never showed up for.

Johnny: Oh, yeah. Right, uh…sorry, I–I must have forgot.

Chanel: Are you sure you’re okay?

Johnny: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Fine. So, what do you say we go celebrate this new year?

Lucas: Wrong? There’s nothing–nothing wrong, not at all. I mean, do you have any idea how long I’ve been waiting for this moment?

Sami: [Chuckles] Oh!

[Laughs]

Lucas: This is gonna be the best year ever. It’s gonna be a great year.

Sami: Yeah, it is. And I’m so glad, lucas. I’m just so happy I know that i can trust you, I know you’re gonna be honest with me. You are the best man I know.

Lucas: Well, don’t make me out to be a saint, because I’m not, so…

Sami: I know you’re not a saint, but you are my rock. You were there for me during the whole allie situation. I mean, oh, my god, that whole thing that happened with charlie dale? You kept me sane.

Lucas: Well you plead guilty to a crime you didn’t commit, so, eh, not so sane there.

Sami: Yeah, well, maybe sane is a relative term. But then when we were locked together in that dimera dungeon I really thought we were going to die, and–and you were there for me, you comforted me, made love to me. And like an idiot, I still went back to ej. I’ve wasted so much time, and i don’t wanna waste another second.

Lucas: All right, so, what does that mean? What are you saying?

Sami: I wanna leave salem. Now.

Get ready. It’s time for

the savings event of the year.

Roman: [Chuckles] So philip framed brady for his own murder? And that’s why you’ve been holed up in your room? You were hiding philip?

Kate: Yes. Yes, I was. And now victor and I are doing everything we possibly can to get him the help he needs.

Roman: Yeah, well, I’m–I’m all for philip getting help, all right, but are you sure this is the way? There are a lot of people worried about philip, mourning him even. Are you really okay with letting those people think that philip is dead?

Kate: Roman, I am so sorry about it. I really, really am. But…philip is my number one priority, and it’s just a decision I had to make.

Roman: Yeah, a decision you didn’t think you could come to me with?

Kate: Roman, I just didn’t wanna burden you with it. I didn’t wanna force you to lie.

Roman: Kate, listen to me–

[Sighs]–You could’ve told me. You, your well-being, that is my priority.

Kate: Well, you know now along with lucas and–and victor.

Roman: Yeah, would you have told me had I not asked steve to look for philip? Or did that force your hand?

Kate: Roman I feel so guilty about not telling you, I–i really, really do, but you know now, you know, and I–I can’t tell you what a relief it is to me, because now we can go into the new year and there are no secrets between us, none. But please, I have to ask you not to tell anyone about this, because if you do, philip and i could be in a world of trouble.

Marlena: Mmm, you know, I’ve never felt safer than I do right now.

John: Mmm.

Marlena: I love you so much.

John: Only half as much as i love you, doc.

[Knocking on door] Oh, brother.

[Laughter]

Marlena: That better be a pizza.

Steve: Happy new year!

Kayla: Happy new year!

Steve: Hope we’re not stopping by too–too late.

Kayla: We were driving by, and we saw the light on, and we thought we’d like to say happy new year in person.

John: Never too late for you–we’re just enjoying a quiet little celebration at home. Get in here, get in.

Kayla: How are you doing?

Marlena: Um–oh. Oh–[Chuckles]

Kayla: [Chuckles]

Marlena: I’m glad you’re here. You know, john has been filling me in on some of the things that happened, and, uh, I just owe you such a huge apology.

Kayla: You don’t owe us anything. As a matter of fact, you’ve already apologized so many times.

Marlena: I couldn’t apologize enough. You know, as I said, john was filling me in on stuff and some of it I remember, and there are so many things that I’ve clearly never realized or–or forgotten. Maybe it’s a very good thing that I’ve forgotten those.

Allie: Well, since johnny and chanel are so occupied, maybe we should just head home.

Tripp: Hm.

Johnny: You don’t wanna ring in the new year with your favorite brother?

Tripp: Oh, there you guys are. We were starting to worry.

Allie: Wow, where did you get the suit?

Tripp: Yeah, that is some kinda sartorial statement.

Johnny: Well, chanel and i just got back from the fashion capital of the world. What better souvenir? Except maybe this.

Chanel: [Laughs]

Allie: Well, you seem to be feeling better.

Johnny: Like a million euros, so, uh, let’s get on with the celebrating, shall we?

Allie: Yeah better late than never.

Johnny: Yeah, sorry about that, uh, memory lapse. I totally spaced on the toast thing, um…

Tripp: Hey, nah, I’m glad to see you made a speedy recovery.

Johnny: Absolutely. Nah, it’s just jet lag. Uh, but what better way to cure some jet lag than celebrating with my loved ones? Wife?

Allie: I’d like to make a toast.

Johnny: Ooh, can I stop you there before…

Allie: Okay, very funny. To two of my favorite people in the world, my brother and my sister-in-law, which is so weird to say, but I will get used to it. I wanna apologize again for being a jerk. I love you both so much, and i sincerely hope that you guys have a very long and very happy marriage.

Chanel: [Chuckles]

Johnny: Brava. Salud.

Lucas: Hold on, hold on, uh, of course I wanna be with you. I would do anything to be with you. But why do we have to move? We live here. Our family’s here. Our daughter’s here. Our grandchild?

Sami: Yeah but this is about you and me right now. We should be able to be together with no distractions.

Justin: As in ej you mean?

Sami: Well, yes, fine, ej. I mean, he’s out on bail. When he finds out that we’re together, he could come after you the same way he came after me.

Lucas: Fine, let him come after me, I don’t care. I can handle ej. I don’t sweat it.

Sami: I know that you can. I’m just saying, we don’t have to put up with him, right? We could go to europe if we want to. We’re adults, we can do whatever we want. We could go to phoenix and visit will and sonny and ari. We could buy a house somewhere out west.

Lucas: Wait a minute, you wanna buy a place?

Sami: Yeah, sure, why not? But you know what, I don’t care where we are, lucas, as long as I’m with you.

Lucas: As long as we’re not here, you mean.

Sami: You know what we could say goodbye to everyone first thing tomorrow morning and be gone before ej even realizes what happened. What do you say?

Woman: Life’s been hard enough.

Roman: Kate… I would never wanna do anything to hurt you, but if brady went to jail?

Kate: No, no, no, no, no. That won’t happen. After victor and I rescinded the document we signed to declare philip dead, it forced trask to drop the charges against brady. So brady’s free, philip’s getting the help he needs, and victor and me and lucas and you are now the only ones who know that philip’s alive.

Roman: Yeah. I just wish the people who care about philip could know the truth too, just for their own peace of mind.

Kate: It’s too risky.

Roman: Yeah. Yeah, I know that, yeah. I’m just glad you trust me enough to open up to me like this.

[Sighs] You’re a mother who is just trying to protect her son, and I definitely get that. So, yes, kate… I promise. I will keep your secret.

[Solemn music]

Marlena: You know, what– what I–what I do know about the havoc that I wreaked just terrifies me. And I don’t know how I ever apologize for putting tripp in a–in a coma or–or–or what i did to you.

Steve: No tripp’s just fine.

Kayla: And-and I’m fine too. It was a–it was a simple bump on the head, nothing more. I’ll tell you what really shocked more, was when…

[Suspenseful music]

Marlena: Was when what?

Kayla: Never mind, you know, I really shouldn’t have brought it up.

Marlena: No, it’s all right. You were shocked when…what?

Kayla: When you kissed me.

Marlena: When I what?

Chanel: I’m so happy you came over, horton.

Allie: I wasn’t sure how you guys would feel about us just showing up, but I felt horrible for going off on you and johnny and the way that I did, so i had to come over and make things right.

Johnny: This just sealed the deal.

Allie: Well, I’m just happy everything’s cool with us again. You too, dupree.

Tripp: Is that still your name or, uh, are you a dimera now?

Chanel: Mmm, I do love being mrs. Dimera.

Johnny: Yeah but it’s such a hassle to change your ids and–

Chanel: Not for a woman in love.

Allie: Well, whatever you decide, I’m still going to call you dupree, because dimera just doesn’t have the same ring.

Johnny: Well, I don’t care what anybody calls her, as long as I can call you “wife.”

[Clears throat]

Chanel: Are you sure you’re feeling okay? You still seem a little off.

Johnny: Busy few weeks. I’m just–just tired.

Tripp: Are you sure? I can–I can check you out.

Johnny: Uh, no, no, it’s fine. Just–like I said, just, uh–

[Exhales]–A little jet lag. A little sleep’s all I need, especially with my beautiful wife next to me.

Allie: All right, well, I’m going to take that as our cue to go.

[Laughs] You do know how lucky you are, right?

Johnny: I do.

Allie: And you do know how brave you are, right?

[Both laugh]

Tripp: Well, congratulations you guys. I can’t think of a better way to start the new year than mr. And mrs. Dimera.

Johnny: Thanks.

Tripp: Happy new year.

Johnny: You too. And now this is the first time all year that I have had my wife all to myself.

Chanel: [Chuckles]

Lucas: It–it–it sounds amazing.

Sami: Fantastic, now let’s get you packed, we gotta go.

Lucas: But wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.

Sami: What? What?

Lucas: We need to think this through a little bit, you know?

Sami: What is there to think about?

Lucas: I–I just think we’re going too fast is all.

Sami: Too fast?

Lucas: Yeah.

Sami: Lucas, you and I have known each other for more than half of our lives. I love you, you love me. What’s stopping us? What’s stopping you?

Lucas: Nothing, nothing is stopping me.

Sami: Nobody knows you better than I do, lucas roberts and that is definitely your “something’s bothering you” face. What is it?

Lucas: And despite all the pain that ej’s put her through, she’s–she’s not ready to give up on him yet.

Allie: I just don’t get that. I mean, she’s put up with so much mistreatment from him, but to kidnap her? I mean, to keep her locked away against her will for all that time? It’s–it’s just cruel. Sadistic, really. I don’t know about mom, but i will never forgive him for it.

Sami: Okay, look I know it’s hard, but we can’t screw this up again, okay? If this is going to work, we have to be honest with each other, both of us. And I know it’s sometime really hard, but we’re going to do this right, okay? So, lucas… what’s bothering you?

Marlena: Well, I’m glad we can talk about it, you know, just as adults, talk about what happened and be open and frank with each other, and, uh, you know, if it’s awkward, we can even make a joke about it. So, to answer your immature and insensitive question…

John: [Chuckles]

Tripp: Hey. Hey, how’s henry?

Allie: He’s sleeping like an angel.

Tripp: Well, I hope you aren’t too sleepy.

Allie: What did you have in mind? That’s exactly what I was thinking.

Tripp: Mm, that’s good to know. Maybe we can keep this celebration going all day tomorrow.

Allie: And miss the bowl games?

Tripp: Aww, you’re right, you’re right, I did promise henry I’d watch the parades with him.

Allie: You’re so good to him and me.

Tripp: I might be very good to you right now.

Johnny: [Clears throat]

Chanel: Mm–okay, you are going straight to bed.

Johnny: Ooh, yes please.

Chanel: I meant sleep. But first I wanna make a toast.

Chanel: To our first couple of weeks as a married couple. I have never been happier.

Johnny: To making you happy every single day for the rest of our lives.

Lucas: Listen to me, I am all for honesty. I am, it’s important. It’s–it’s very important. There’s something that you need to know–

Sami: Oh!

Kayla: Are the two of you celebrating new year’s together?

Roman: Yeah what’s going on?

Sami: Well, I wanted to wish lucas actually a happy new year because I think this is going to be the best new year in a very long time for both of us…at least I hope so. What do you say, lucas?

[Tense music]

Lucas: Well, I say that, um, you guys are the lucky ones. You know, um, you’ll be the first to find out that sami and I are back together, and not only that, we’re, uh–we’re leaving salem…tomorrow.

Serena: It’s my 3:10

Roman: So, you two are back together again? Since when?

Lucas: Just now.

Sami: [Laughs]

Kate: And you’re leaving town tomorrow?

Sami: We are.

Kate: But isn’t that a little…

Lucas: Impulsive, it is.

Kate: Ah, well, that’s one word for it.

Lucas: Right, I know it might seem like that, but you know sami and I have loved each other forever. You know, we’re just uh, trying to make up for wasted time, right?

Sami: [Laughs] Just like you and kate, dad.

Roman: Yeah, well, uh, guess it runs in the family.

Sami: Kate… I hope you can be happy for us.

Kate: If lucas is happy.

Roman: Well, then I am thrilled for both of you.

Sami: Thanks, daddy.

Allie: You hear that?

Tripp: What?

Allie: Silence. Peace. Right now in this moment, everything is perfect. And after the year we had, i mean, with all the scary stuff, wouldn’t it be great if it was always like this?

Tripp: Well, then that is my new year’s resolution, to make life as perfect as I can for you.

Allie: You already do.

Marlena: I must say, for the first time in a very long time, I’m feeling relaxed and calm. Looking forward to the future, a wonderful life with the love of my life.

John: Amen to that.

Kayla: Yeah, well, I’m just, uh–I’m–I think all of us just want things to be a little less exciting around here.

[Laughter]

John: Yeah, well look–look, um, before you two go, I wanted to, uh–I wanted to thank you. Um, you know, there were times in this madness here when I–i thought that I had lost her forever. Hell, there were–there were times when I didn’t know if i was even going to survive, or any of us, but… you just need to know it was your love and support that pulled us through to the other side, so, thank you.

Kayla: Well, we’re just grateful that you’re both back.

Steve: And we thank god that the devil’s reign of terror is finally over.

[Soft music]

Gabi: Oh, okay. Well, this is it. You need to sell shin on getting victor a seat on the dimera board. And then that way in return, victor will make me in charge of titan. And then in the long run, we’ll be running both companies and I will be ceo of titan. You’ll be on top of dimera.

Jake: Can I get a word in, please?

Gabi: Yeah. What?

Jake: We need a new plan.

[Knock at door]

Rafe: Yep.

Ava: Hi, rafe.

Rafe: Ava. Hey.

Ava: Hey.

Rafe: Ah, everything okay?

Ava: Yeah, I was just–I was in the neighborhood, and I thought I’d stop in, say hi.

Rafe: Well, perfect, actually, because I was just about to call you about making plans tonight.

Ava: Oh, you mean with me?

Rafe: Yeah, of course with you. Who else would I be making plans with on new year’s eve?

Ava: I just thought you might have other plans.

Sami: What did you just say?

Ej: That lucas is the one who kidnapped you.

Sami: Ej. That is crazy. What would make you even think that?

Ej: Actually, because of nicole.

Nicole: I was just spitballing. Look, I even told ej that I regretted putting that in his head because I was sure it was not lucas. And if he had thought about it–

Ej: I have. And the more I do, the more convinced I am it’s true.

Chad: How did you get into that computer?

Lucas: I just–I–I borrowed my mom’s password.

Chad: Why?

Lucas: Why? Well, as you know, your brother was arrested for kidnapping sami, and he managed to make bail. And you and I both know that he’s guilty as sin.

Chad: So what does that have to do with you sneaking in here?

Lucas: I’m not sneaking in here. Not at all. I’m extremely worried about sami right now.

Chad: Why? Sami’s back. She’s safe now.

Lucas: No, she’s back, but she’s definitely not safe.

Chad: What makes you say that?

Lucas: Ej. Ej makes me say that. You know, he–she is determined to give him the benefit of the doubt. She flat out refuses to believe that he’s the one who kidnapped her. So, you know, and now she’s gonna be in danger. And when she’s in danger, she’s gonna go back to him. But she doesn’t believe that she’s in danger. So I actually have to find the proof. That’s what I’m doing right now. I’m looking for the money trail.

Chad: So that’s why you decided to hack in. What the hell are you really up to?

Brady: Well, it’s a holiday for you too, yet you’re burying yourself in work.

Brady: Yeah. Well, it’s time that I start pulling my own weight around here. I mean, I’ve been mia for a while now. In and out of the hospital, jail, I mean, helping marlena.

Chloe: How is she doing?

Brady: She’s good. She’s gonna be released from the hospital today.

Chloe: Wow. That’s a miracle, isn’t it?

Brady: It’s literally a miracle. Yeah, I just pray that that’s the last time the devil appears in salem.

Chad: Did you make these fund transfers?

Lucas: I did not. No. Look at the dates that. That was weeks ago, man.

Chad: Well, I didn’t authorize them, and nobody has access to this account except for ej and kate.

Lucas: Well, my mom hasn’t logged into those accounts in eons. It wouldn’t be her. Note the recipient and the recurring–all those payments. Look at all the payments, recurring payments. Went to the–what is this? Jason smith first bank of milwaukee, come on.

Chad: Who is jason smith?

Lucas: He’s one of the guards that held sami captive when she was a prisoner.

Chad: Well, I’m sure there’s a lot of jason smiths in wisconsin.

Lucas: Look at the account number. It’s the same thing. It’s the same one every time. I’m positive that that is the guy who was keeping sami prisoner. I know it. And this just proves it, man. This proves that your brother’s behind kidnapping sami. He stole dimera funds. He committed a crime. He thought he was gonna get away with it. He didn’t think anyone was gonna find out. He almost implicated you and your whole company, chad, you realize that?

Chad: This is unbelievable. It’s maybe a little too unbelievable.

Sami: Why would lucas kidnap me?

Ej: Why else? He wants you all to himself. And a desperate, depraved plan was his only shot.

Sami: Okay. It’s an interesting theory. But do you have any proof that lucas laid a finger on me?

Nicole: He laid more than a finger on you.

Sami: All right. That’s enough. Look, ej, we’re back together. You don’t have to go around making wild accusations.

Nicole: Excuse me? What do you mean you’re back together?

Sami: Oh, yeah. Ej and I had a good talk, and he ripped up the divorce papers.

Nicole: No, you did that, sami.

Sami: Right. No. Yes. I ripped up the first set. And it was very upsetting, but ej had more were drawn up, and then he ripped them up himself when he changed his mind about us. Oh, you hadn’t had the chance to tell her yet? Oh, this is awkward.

Brady: Chloe, I’ve been–I’ve been–I’ve been thinking about you nonstop. I’ve been worried about you.

Chloe: I’m hanging in there. It’s okay. But I’m just really relieved that trask dropped those charges against you.

Brady: Yeah. Thanks to you for going to bat for me with kate. I mean, that couldn’t have been easy.

Chloe: Well, it was worth it.

Brady: Well, I am very, very grateful to you.

Chloe: Well, like I said before, brady, I know who you are. I know your heart. I–I know that you’d never be capable of killing philip or anyone else for that matter. Oh, but all this waiting, being in limbo, not knowing if I’ll ever have answers or knowing whether philip is alive or dead, it’s just–it’s hard. You know, it’s been–it’s been really hard.

Gabi: A new plan, you came up with this, it’s genius. What are you talking about?

Jake: Gabi, she–

Gabi: No, jake, listen to me. Shin agreed to meet us here. Victor’s on board.

Jake: Victor? Victor hasn’t returned any of my phone calls.

Gabi: Because his son is missing.

Jake: Right, and maybe that’s causing him to have second thoughts.

Gabi: About taking over dimera? No, his entire family could go missing and he would not have second thoughts about that.

Jake: Can you just hear me out for a second? All right. On the way over here, I got to thinking that maybe there’s a more direct way to get what we want.

Gabi: Well, will you hurry up and tell me what it is before shin gets here?

Shin: Hello, friends.

Rafe: Why would you think that I have other plans tonight?

Ava: Well, I thought that if you had wanted to hang out with me tonight, you would have said something about it sooner.

Rafe: Yes, yes. You’re right. You know what? And I’m sorry about that. Because I was supposed to maybe have to cover for eli, but now I’m off the hook. So a little last minute, but I’m sure we could maybe get reservations somewhere and do something fun if you’re interested.

Rafe: Sure.

Ava: What do you have mind, commissioner?

Rafe: Oh, well, dinner, fireworks.

Ava: Or we can invite a couple of friends over to ring in the new year with us.

Rafe: Okay.

Ava: Of course, I only have one real friend, but she’s your friend too.

Rafe: You’re talking about–

Ava: Nicole.

Rafe: Yeah. Do you have a problem with that?

Nicole: Oh, sami. At some point, this just becomes pathetic.

Sami: Oh, I agree completely. And I think you hit that point about a thousand walks of shame ago.

Nicole: You can click your heels together and say ej wants you back as many times as you want.

Sami: He does want me back.

Nicole: Really? Then why is it just a few days ago ej said that you deluded yourself into thinking that you still had a chance?

Sami: I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that you surprised ej by showing up here. I mean, it’s not like you had new year’s eve plans. Am I right?

Nicole: He just got out of jail.

Sami: And the first call he made was to me.

Nicole: While he was arrested for supposedly kidnapping you.

Ej: Which I did not do.

Nicole: Wow. He speaks. Is that all you’re gonna say?

Sami: He had a lot more to say to me when he told me that he loved me, he can’t live without me, and that I am the one true love of his life, and nicole will do in a pinch.

Ej: That is not what I said.

Sami: It was not what he said, not those words exactly. But it was the sentiment.

Nicole: [Chuckles] Oh, my god. It’s true, isn’t it?

Ej: [Clears throat]

Lucas: Ej is definitely behind this. You know it; you saw the payments. What’s there not to believe?

Chad: Well, my brother swears he’s being framed.

Lucas: Yeah. Really? By who?

Chad: By you.

Lucas: By me? That’s totally insane. Come on.

Chad: Yeah. I thought so too. But then I left this office for a few minutes, and in that time you managed to hack into my accounts and find a smoking gun.

Lucas: I got lucky. All right?

Chad: Police didn’T.

Lucas: What?

Chad: Police. Yeah, the police. I mean, I gave them access to those very same accounts. They combed through ’em for hours, but they didn’t manage to find anything.

Lucas: Well, what can I say? They’re cops, you know, maybe they didn’t know where to look.

Chad: Yeah. Or you planted the information. And the only way you would have that information is if you were the one that paid that person who kidnapped sami. My brother was right. You did it. One of the worst things about a cold sore

Brady: If philip is missing because of kristen, chloe, all I can say to you is, I’m so–so sorry.

Chloe: It’s not your fault.

Brady: Yeah, it is. If kristen went after philip, it was only because she wanted to get back at me for leaving her or she wanted me out of the way to try to take rachel again.

Chloe: Well, a part of me really hopes it is kristen, because her specialty is making people disappear.

Brady: Yeah. Kristen could be holding philip somewhere.

Chloe: And as strange as it sounds, I’m praying for that. I just hope she has him, you know, locked up in a warehouse or wine cellar somewhere and he figures out how to escape or we find him and bring him home.

Brady: Sure, sure.

Chloe: And I remember all that blood all over your body, so–

Brady: Chloe, chloe, chloe, as much as I never wanna see kristen again, I’m gonna do everything in my power to find her, everything I can do. I owe that to philip. I certainly owe that to you.

Gabi: Mr. Shin, thank you so much for coming.

Jake: Hope you had a nice flight.

Shin: Eh, no complaints. It’s nice to see you both in this fine establishment.

Gabi: Yeah. It’s not exactly the ritz, right? But we just wanted to keep this meeting under the radar.

Shin: Well, you said it was important that we speak in person. So what is it we’re speaking about?

Jake: Just follow my lead. Mr. Shin, gabi and I are well aware that your time is valuable. So I’m gonna cut right to the chase here. We think you need to remove ej as ceo of dimera.

Shin: Well, you’ve thought that from the moment he and chad ousted you from the company.

Jake: Right. But now that he’s been arrested for kidnapping his own wife, I think we can all agree that doesn’t look very good for dimera.

Shin: Hmm. Not only do I agree, ej does as well, which is why he’s allowing chad to run the company solo until his name is cleared.

Gabi: Oh, excuse me. But what if his name is never cleared? I mean, ej’s legal battles could go on for months, even years. And the pr would be devastating. We would lose deals, clients. Stockholders would lose confidence. And jake and I, as board members, we are extremely worried about the future of the company.

Shin: Mm-hmm. We all are. And while ej was not my choice for ceo, profits have soared under his leadership.

Jake: Okay. But let’s be honest here. The economy’s hot, right? Ej’s leadership skills not so much. I mean, you’ve seen the projections for next quarter. They’re already down.

Gabi: Probably because ej is so distracted with all the drama in his personal life. I mean, it’s one tabloid story after the next.

Jake: Right. So how could he put any energy toward running dimera? I mean, he’s risking everything we’ve worked for.

Gabi: Bottom line, mr. Shin, is, he has to go.

Shin: I assume you have someone in mind to replace him. Yourself perhaps?

Gabi: Oh, yeah. Jake has been the best eo that dimera has ever had. I mean, you yourself put him there when chad resigned.

Shin: Speaking of chad, have you looped him in?

Jake: On what?

Shin: Your plan to make him collateral damage in a hostile takeover?

Chad: Admit it. You kidnapped sami.

Lucas: No, I didn’t kidnap sami. I’m the one who rescued her, remember?

Chad: Yeah, maybe you wanted to play the hero. You know, you save her life. You bring her home to her kids. That would score you a lot of brownie points.

Lucas: Why are you so damned determined to let ej off the hook after everything he did to you? The way he screwed you over? Don’t we want the same thing here?

Chad: Yeah. What’s that?

Lucas: For ej to get what he deserves, for him to be out of our lives.

Ej: Nicole, I’m sorry.

Sami: Me too. I’m really sorry. This must be humiliating for you.

Nicole: Oh, no, no, not humiliating. In fact, I’m actually grateful to be reminded of what an amoral, shallow, insensitive son of a bitch ej is. And I am done wasting my time with you. So you can have him back, because you deserve each other. And by the way, I never really wanted ej. I just wanted to make you miserable. Looks like you don’t need any help. Ej will take care of that.

Ej: Nicole–

Nicole: No, no, goodbye and good riddance. Enjoy making each other miserable for a lifetime or however long this will last again.

Sami: Happy new year.

Chloe: How would you even start to look for kristen? The police have been trying for months.

Brady: Mm. Let’s just say I have methods of getting to her that the cops don’T.

Chloe: Well, please be careful, because if anything ever happened to you, I couldn’t take it.

Brady: Well, hey, hey. Kristen–kristen would never hurt me. Well, not physically anyway. I don’t think she would hurt philip either, not the way I did.

Chloe: What are you talking about?

Brady: Philip is in love with you. He has been forever. He just wanted your relationship to work. And I just made things worse, is what I did.

Chloe: That’s not true.

Brady: I think we both can admit that it is at this point. I mean, he said, “brady, you know, you had your chance with chloe, and you blew it.” And then he said, “you couldn’t accept it. So you just tried to screw up my chance at happiness with her.” And he was right. I mean, I was selfish. I was petty. And I just want to apologize to the man.

Chloe: Well, me too.

Brady: Why would you need to apologize?

Chloe: Because I knew that you and i being close drove him nuts.

Brady: Chloe, you and i are friends.

Chloe: I know that. But he also knew that you had feelings for me. And even though I tried to reassure him that that didn’t matter, that I was secure in our relationship. I guess truth is, I don’t know if I was very clear about how I felt, because I wasn’t sure about how I felt. And he might have thought–

Chloe: I don’t know if kate said something to philip, but–

Chloe: Well, kate was under the mistaken impression that you and I had sex on this conference table.

Rafe: Why are you suggesting that we have nicole over? You know that–I mean, you know she and i are trying to keep our distance.

Ava: Come on, rafe. This is silly. All right? We are adults. I think we can handle celebrating new year’s eve with someone we both consider a good friend.

Rafe: Yeah. Well, it– but she’s also–she’s dating ej now, and I can’t stand that guy’s guts, and I really don’t want to ring in the new year with him.

Ava: Yes, but ej’s in jail.

Rafe: Oh, no. He just got out on bail.

Ava: Okay. Well, I can’t imagine that she’s gonna stay with him after that, after the terrible thing that he did.

Rafe: Well, you know, ej has done plenty of terrible things to her, and yet she’s willing to go another round.

Ava: Okay. Well, I’m sure it’s over now. I am. And honestly, I– I’m actually surprised that she ended up dating him again because she seems like she’s into the nice guys these days. You know, I’m gonna go over to basic black. I’m gonna check on her, see how she’s doing. And if all she has planned tonight is some lonely, sad night at home, you don’t mind, right, if I invite her over to join us, no?

Rafe: Of course not, no. Of course. Of course.

Ava: You’re the best.

Ej: You didn’t have to enjoy that quite so much.

Sami: Well, it’s not my fault nicole was here. And you could have let her off the hook a lot sooner.

Ej: I’ve been a bit too busy fighting bogus felony charges. But I was going to tell her about us.

Sami: What us?

Ej: Oh, for god’s sake, would you make up your mind? Yes. No. What is it that you want?

Sami: Depends on whether or not you’re the one who kidnapped me, ej, and held me for what seemed like an eternity.

Ej: You’re just clinging to that as an excuse to push me away, because you’re upset I slept with nicole.

Sami: No, look, it wasn’t my deal that nicole was here, but that’s not about that. Ej, I just–I need you to look me in the eye and tell me you’re not the one who kidnapped me.

Ej: I didn’t kidnap you, samantha.

Lucas: This could be the final nail on ej’s coffin if you want it to be.

Chad: No, I want you to leave me the hell out of this.

Lucas: Just hear me out. Hear me out for a second, okay? All you’ve got to do is take this evidence to the police or the dimera board. And in a matter of days, you’d be running dimera solo.

Chad: Yeah. You think that if ej was gone, sami would come running back to you.

Lucas: Well, this way we both get what we want. Snacking can mean that pieces get stuck under mike’s denture.

Chad: Before I walked in here, what was your plan to get the information to sami while keeping your hands clean?

Lucas: I didn’t have a plan before I came in here. I didn’t know what I was gonna find, but maybe it’s best if you keep my name out of it. You know, maybe it’s best for both of us. You’re not saying anything. Does that mean you’re in?

Chad: I just–I need to think about it.

Jake: I never said anything about getting rid of chad.

Shin: But you were thinking it.

Gabi: Oh, mr. Shin, you know jake so well. I mean, of course you do. You’ve always been his biggest champion. If it were up to you, he’d still be running the company all on his own.

Shin: True. But a change this big, it’s–

Jake: Yeah, it’s enormous. Which is why we gotta take it one step at a time. Right? Step one, we get rid of ej as ceo.

Gabi: I mean, seems pretty easy given the circumstances.

Shin: Well, not as easy as you might think. Ej has ardent support from the board, and he’s innocent until proven guilty, which means I have no cause to fire him…yet.

Jake: Ah, yet. All right. Look, gabi and I put together a proposal. We’d like to send it your way. It’s got some stuff in it that’s gonna have you very excited. So if you could take a look at it and get back to me, that’d be great.

Shin: Of course.

Jake: All right.

Shin: Oh, I have to take this. It was lovely to see you both.

Gabi: Well, you know, because we’re changing things now. We’re not going after titan. Just makes me think, where does that leave me?

Rafe: Nicole.

Rafe: Hey. Ava and i were just talking about you. Actually, she’s on her way to meet you at basic black.

Nicole: Well, I’m off today. Was it anything important?

Rafe: Oh, well, I was just telling her that ej had gotten out on bail, and she was worried about you. And have you seen him yet?

Nicole: I sure have.

Rafe: Oh, that doesn’t sound good.

Nicole: You mean that ej kidnapped sami or that he’s getting back together with her and conveniently neglected to tell me?

Ej: [Chuckling]

Sami: Well, you’re not doing yourself any favors by going around making wild accusations against lucas, you know. What would his motive even be?

Ej: I told you. To keep us apart.

Sami: We were already apart. You had kicked me out. You told me that you never wanted to see me again.

Ej: Perhaps he knew it wouldn’t stick. I mean, it never does, does it?

Sami: Never does. But wait, you’re forgetting. Lucas is the one who rescued me, much to your dismay.

Ej: I was not dismayed.

Sami: Well, you certainly seemed dismayed.

Ej: He happened to be standing there when you called allie for help. What other choice did he have, but to play innocent. To pivot to the role of hero and rush off to fetch you, when in truth, he would have preferred to keep you in that room indefinitely.

Sami: I just don’t buy it. He’s the father of my children. I just don’t think he would really do something like that.

Ej: I’m the father of your children too, and you think I would.

Sami: Well, the cops think you did.

Ej: Apart from the kidnappers dubious statement, there isn’t a shred of evidence against me.

Chad: I wouldn’t be so sure about that. If you’re washing with the bargain brand,

Brady: Kate thought that we slept together. Why in the hell would she think something like that?

Chloe: She said she was here for a meeting a few weeks ago and she overheard how we were talking about nicole having sex on that conference table.

Brady: Oh, no.

Chloe: Yeah. And kate jumped to the very wrong conclusion that we were talking about you and me. And I don’t know if she told philip or not, but I had to convince her that it wasn’t true.

Brady: And how did you do that?

Chloe: Oh, I had to swear on parker’s life, but if I didn’t, you could still be facing murder charges.

Brady: Well, I’m glad you smoothed that over. I mean, I know nicole did not want secret getting out. We agreed that we weren’t gonna tell anyone.

Chloe: I know, but I didn’t feel like I had much of a choice. At least, I didn’t tell kate that nicole slept with rafe.

Rafe: What a pig. I can’t believe that ej would do something like that to you. Actually, I can. I can’t actually believe that sami would take him back.

Nicole: Sure, you can.

Rafe: Nicole, I have told you so many times you deserve so much better. I know one of the reasons that you went back to ej was because of me.

Nicole: Oh, stop. You are not responsible for the latest of the many, many horrendous choices I’ve made.

Rafe: You’ve been under a lot of stress. You’re doing the best you can.

Nicole: Really?

Rafe: Yeah.

Nicole: Because I think I’m a hot mess. I cheated on the love of my life with a man I detest. I blew up my marriage and drove eric back into the priesthood for god’s sake. And I slept with you, a man who is in a committed relationship with one of my best friends. And I run to a guy who has burned me twice and is in love with a woman I hate with a passion.

Rafe: Okay. So that’s a little messy.

Nicole: You think? Okay. That’s–it’s enough. Just go enjoy your new year’s eve.

Rafe: I hate to leave you alone like this. You are upset.

Nicole: I’m fine, rafe.

Rafe: You got plans tonight?

Nicole: Well, I’m not gonna be with ej; that’s for sure.

Chad: Yeah, no, I think sami’s gonna wanna see this. I found this while I was auditi dimera’s quarterly expenses, this large recurring payment to jason smith laundered through the company and signed by your husband.

Sami: Oh, my god. You lying bastard.

Jake: Look, getting you into titan is the next step. I just figured we had such a great opening with ej’s arrest… here’s hoping it goes well.

Gabi: Where are you going?

Jake: Got a couple errands to run, but you stay here. Finish that drink, enjoy it. And hopefully we will have something to celebrate come midnight. Bye.

Ej: Let me see that. I never made these payments.

Chad: I might have believed you if all the cops had was a statement from the guy who held sami as hostage. But now we have that statement and this. I would say we have you dead to rights.

Sami: So would I. Do you have any idea what I went through in there, how horrible it was to be trapped alone, and I didn’t know where I was; I didn’t know if I was ever gonna see my family again?

Ej: I am being framed.

Sami: Right. You are trying to pin this whole thing on lucas? Do you understand he wouldn’t do something like this?

Ej: Samantha.

Sami: But I know that you would. I know that you are capable of this, and I bet you loved every minute of it. I bet you loved knowing how much I suffered and that you were the cause.

Ciara: Seriously? I thought that old married couples went to bed as soon as the sun went down.

Ben: Your grandparents know how to party.

Ciara: Yeah, well, with what happened there on christmas eve, I’m kind of done with all the excitement for now.

Ben: So you’re saying you want us to be the old married couple?

Ciara: What I’m saying is, I want to stay here and watch the ball drop with you and our baby.

Chanel: Hi.

Johnny: Oh, hey.

Chanel: I thought you were working out.

Johnny: Oh yeah, I–I stopped halfway through all of a sudden, I just felt like I got hit by a bus.

Chanel: Oh, no, are you feeling sick?

Johnny: Eh, it might just be jet lag, or maybe it’s the after effects of going ten rounds with il diavolo.

Chanel: As dramatic as that sounds, you’re probably just fighting a cold.

Johnny: Yeah, well, definitely fighting something. Look, I don’t think I’m gonna be very much fun tonight. Maybe you should just go ahead without me.

Sami: I just got proof that ej is the one who kidnapped me.

Tripp: You don’t need to do that, okay? I know that everything that happened wasn’t your fault. It was him.

Marlena: Yeah, him.

Tripp: And I have to admit that when I first heard the stories about this happening to you before, I–I didn’t believe them.

Marlena: Well, I’m not sure I would have either. Kind of a lot to take in, you know, devil possession and battle between good and evil not exactly based in science.

Tripp: Well, you’ve certainly made a believer out of me.

Jake: You don’t look like you’re getting ready for a big night out.

Ben: Oh, you’re looking at a big night out.

Jake: Come on, it’s new year’s eve and the last new year’s eve you’re not gonna have to search for a babysitter,

Ciara: Yeah, well, it’s not like I can really go out partying.

Jake: But you can still have fun, can’t you? So come on, losers, get out of that bed. Come out with me and gabi.

Gabi: Ej kidnapped you?

Sami: My husband, the man who’s supposed to love me and our children.

Gabi: I wish I could say he’s not capable of doing that, but he’s ej dimera, the most morally bankrupt human being on this planet.

Allie: I didn’t mean to eavesdrop, but you know, when you’re talking to yourself in public…

Allie: Yeah, like you were confessing something. Look, just instead of pouring your soul out to great-grandpa and great-grandma, why don’t you just talk to me about it.

Chanel: Hmm-hmm. Well, then when you’re sick, you’re stuck with me, and I am stuck with you.

Ciara: Tempting, but I’m sorry, jake, we’re out.

Jake: You sure?

Ben: We’re sure.

Jake: You two are about as fun as a case of scabies, you know that?

Ciara: Yeah, well, in my defense, a few days ago, the devil did try to steal my unborn baby.

Jake: I’m sorry, what?

Ben: Oh, it’s news to you that marlena evans was possessed by the devil?

Jake: No, no, no, I heard about all that, but I didn’t know she wanted to take your kid.

Ben: Good times, huh?

Jake: Man, what the hell does she want with your child, anyway?

Marlena: I know that what happened was beyond my control, but people were hurt. Tripp: But we’re all fine now. And it’s nothing compared to what you went through. I’m really glad to see you on the other side. I know how worried allie was about you.

Marlena: Thanks for saying that, and I’m glad she has such a nice young man in her life.

John: And I couldn’t agree with that more.

Tripp: Hey, john. How you doing?

John: Tripp, good to see you up and about.

Tripp: Yeah, yeah. I have to say that it really means a lot that you both approve of my relationship with allie.

John: Well, it’s kind of like what doc said, we’re just very grateful that she has you in her life.

Tripp: Listen, well, I am very lucky that she is in mine.

Marlena: We won’t keep you from her, except to say happy new year, tripp.

John: Yeah, happy new year, kid.

Tripp: Happy new year to you both. You deserve it.

[Elevator dings]

John: Yes, we do.

Lucas: Well, you know, I–I feel guilty, because I’m the one who had to talk to your mom. I had to get her to accept the fact that ej is the one who kidnapped her.

Allie: Right, that couldn’t have been easy for her.

Lucas: No, it wasn’T. It broke her heart. And despite all the pain that ej’s put her through, she’s–she’s not ready to give up on him yet.

Allie: I just don’t get that. I mean, she’s put up with so much miss treatment from him, but to kidnap her and to keep her locked away against her will for all that time, it’s– it’s just cruel, sadistic really. I don’t know about mom, but i will never forgive him for it.

Gabi: How did you find out it was ej who took you?

Sami: Chad, he found this record of a financial transaction ej had used dimera funds to pay this guy, jason smith, who was his accomplice after telling me that he had no idea who that guy was, had never heard of him in his entire life.

Gabi: Pretty dumb to leave a paper trail.

Sami: Yeah, ej’s not stupid. He’s just arrogant. He didn’t think he was gonna get caught. I’m the one who’s dumb.

Gabi: No, don’t say that.

Sami: I believed him when he told me that I was the love of his life. I believed him.

Gabi: Well, maybe that isn’t a lie.

Sami: The worst part is…

Gabi: What? Go on.

Sami: The worst part of it, he’s still the love of mine.

Gabi: You still feel that way?

Sami: So–so if ej and i are over, what am I supposed to do with the rest of my life? We hit the bike trails every weekend

Gabi: Look, I’m probably the last person that should be giving any relationship advice. I mean, I’ve always dated the wrong kind of men, men who didn’t respect me, who lied and cheated. It took me years, but I finally learned my lesson.

Sami: And jake treats you right?

Gabi: Yeah, yes, he does. He respects me. And more importantly, it doesn’t matter what happens between him and I. I learned that I will never settle for a guy who does not see me as his equal.

Sami: Good for you. Neither will I.

Gabi: Well, I don’t–i don’t think there’s a guy out there who’s your equal, but you definitely deserve better than ej dimera. I mean, he’s–the guy is hateful. I mean, the way he ousted jake from dimera. It was disgusting. Snake.

Sami: So not a fan?

Gabi: No, not a fan, but I am one of your biggest fans.

Sami: Thank you. Gabi, that’s really nice of you. That means a lot.

Gabi: Yeah, you know, you really helped me through some of the roughest times in my life. And I learned how to stand up for myself because of you.

Sami: Well, you are a quick learner.

Gabi: Still got a long way to go, but thank you. I know that we’ve had our differences, but you’re will’s mom. You’re ari’s abuela. I’ll always have your back. Remember that, okay?

Jake: So marlena tricked you into taking her to the cabin so she could steal your child?

Ciara: Mm-hmm. And we still have no idea what she wanted with our baby.

Ben: And frankly, I don’t give a damn. I’m just glad that ciara is okay and the threat of the devil is no more. John and everybody else who loves marlena cast him out.

Ciara: Mm-hmm.

Ben: Mm-hmm.

Ciara: That poor devil never had a chance. Your try to come between us and our baby, you’re gonna get all types of hell. I don’t care who you are.

Jake: Yeah, lucifer didn’t know who he was messing with, right?

Ben: The prince of darkness. That’s no match for my pregnant wife. Look at her.

Ciara: Uh-uh, and he’d better not forget it.

Jake: All right, so I guess that’s a good enough excuse to lie low tonight.

Ben: Yeah, you and gabi are gonna have to celebrate without us, my man.

Chanel: And besides it gives me a good excuse to skip work for the next few days, so…

Johnny: You know, chanel, I can probably manage to avoid my sister well into the new year, but you, you own a business with her, you know? You’re gonna have to talk to her eventually.

Chanel: Yeah, but it doesn’t mean I have to seek it out and not after the way she went at us for getting married.

Johnny: I probably didn’t help things by accusing her of being jealous of wanting you for herself.

Chanel: Yeah, that was awkward.

Johnny: Sorry.

Chanel: You do know that there’s nothing going on between us, right?

Johnny: Yeah, yeah, no, it’s just–

Chanel: Allie and I are just friends, nothing more.

Johnny: Yeah, you know, my sister and I, we–we’ve just been so competitive, you know, since we were babies with toys, friends, our parents’ love, but this one, competing for your heart was a new one. And I’m just not sure allie’s over the fact that she lost.

Allie: I wish they were around long enough for me to get to know them.

Lucas: Me too. They were the best. So everything okay with you and tripp?

Allie: More than okay.

Lucas: Really?

Allie: Yeah.

Lucas: What’s going on?

Allie: Well, remember how you were telling me about trying to save mom from ej?

Lucas: Yeah, yeah.

Allie: I kind of tried to do the same thing with chanel and johnny. When they told me they’d gotten married, I was completely blindsided.

Lucas: So wait, let me guess. You didn’t give them your blessing?

Allie: No, kind of sort of cursed their union.

Lucas: Oof, you cursed their union? That’s not like you; come on.

Allie: Well, it’s not just chanel that I’m worried about. I mean, I don’t want to see johnny get hurt either.

Lucas: No, I get it. I get it. I get it. They’re both young. They haven’t been together that long, but when it comes to matters of the heart, you know, people make their own choices. You don’t agree with those choices, then there’s a chance they’re gonna cut you out of their life.

Allie: Even if it’s bad choices?

Lucas: Yeah, even if it’s bad. I mean, johnny’s your brother, and she’s your best friend. I would hate to see you lose both of them. As a professional bull-rider

Sami: You know, ej had every right to be mad at me. I cheated on him with lucas.

Gabi: I’m sorry, but did he have the right to put your life in danger to make you suffer like he did?

Sami: I thought we were beyond all of that.

Gabi: Doesn’t surprise me. You know, I just hope that one day you will be grateful that you finally walked away from that sadistic creep.

Sami: Yeah, and I am. You know, a part of me is already. It’s just that… a part of me misses him.

Gabi: And that’s–sami, that’s okay, girl. Cry it out. There’s no shame in that.

Sami: Yes, there is. I hate it. I hate that I miss him after what he did to me. It just makes me feel weak.

Gabi: Hey, come on. You are a lot of things, sami, but weak is not one of them. So yes, you’re going to mourn as long as you need to, and then you’re gonna pick yourself up, and you’re gonna figure out what you really want in life.

Allie: I know I have to make peace with johnny and chanel, but what are you going to do about mom?

Lucas: Well, there’s some things–

Tripp: Hey, found you.

Allie: Oh, hey, you.

Lucas: Hey, tripp, how you doing?

Lucas: Good to see you. So what’s going on? You guys got big plans for tonight or what?

Tripp: Well, nicole has offered to babysit, and so we’re gonna get dressed up and see what kind of trouble we can find.

Allie: Yeah, what about you, dad? Got any plans tonight?

Lucas: You mean for new year’s eve? Yeah, I got plans. I got–I got big plans. I’m gonna go home and watch tv and snuggle under a blanket. It’s gonna be great. You guys go out and be young and have a great time.

Allie: Okay, well, happy new year’s, dad. I love you. And be easy on yourself. You don’t have anything to feel guilty about.

Lucas: Thank you. I love you too.

Johnny: So I guess we have managed to alienate ourselves from both of our families.

Chanel: Well, it wouldn’t be a first time for me.

Johnny: Me neither.

Chanel: Although my mom, she did start a wedding registry at three different department stores. She’s already bought half the stuff herself. Pretty soon we’re going to be swimming in crystal and china.

Johnny: Well, that’s nice of her, I guess, right?

Chanel: Buying gifts is just her way of saying she’s sorry.

Johnny: I knew I’d win her over eventually. What do you think it was, my–my charm or just my good looks?

Chanel: I think it was probably your good looks, ’cause you’re not that charming.

Johnny: Hey, hey, I’m sick, remember? I don’t want you to catch what I’ve got.

Chanel: If what you got is contagious, then I’m pretty sure I’ve already got it after what we did this morning.

Johnny: That is an excellent point.

Johnny: Go ahead and start our own holiday traditions.

Ciara: Oh, and what game is this between two teams that you’ve never cared before–

Ciara: Oh, yes, you’re right. You are correct. The point is, I’m pregnant with your child. So I get one and a half votes, baby, and that means that ceramic countertops and floor plans win.

Ben: Fine. But we are switching during commercials.

[Knock at door]

Marlena: John told me that I was encouraging the two of you to have a baby.

Ciara: Yeah, yeah, well, I’m–I’m pretty sure we would’ve done it anyway, but…

Ben: I mean, I–I had my concerns, but ciara made me see how amazing it could be. And she convinced me that we could be good parents.

Ciara: And we’re gonna have a beautiful life with this little one.

Marlena: Ahh, yes, you are. I’m so proud of you both.

Ben: It’s good to have you back.

Gabi: Hey, you know, jake and I, we’re gonna have dinner at the bistro tonight. Why don’t you join us?

Sami: Oh, I don’t know if being a third wheel is really good for my mental state right now.

Gabi: All right, I’ll ditch jake.

Gabi: That an old friend needs me. He’ll understand.

Sami: No, that is seriously the nicest thing ever, but I cannot allow it. It is new year’s eve, gabi, and I am irish and incredibly superstitious. So it is your job to get a great kiss at midnight, ’cause it gives you good luck the whole year round. It’s a complicated thing. So please be with a man that you love and the man that loves you.

Gabi: Thanks. Well, what about you?

Sami: Me? I have big plans. I’m gonna go home to my mother’s, which is an amazing thing to say at my age. And I’m going to cry all night into a pillow on new year’s eve.

[Laughs]

Chanel: Oh, no, tarantino, you are not picking the movie this time.

Johnny: What? Why not? I have great taste.

Chanel: Yeah, if you like zombies eating people’s faces or demons dragging teenagers to hell.

Johnny: I wasn’t gonna choose a horror movie for new year’s eve. I chose a classic.

Chanel: Yeah, that’s what you called, “vampire dingoes from outer space.”

Johnny: First of all, australian indie horror is underrated. Second of all, this is not that. I chose something with heart, with romance. Just give it a chance, please. For your husband.

Chanel: Oh, you’re pulling the husband card now are we?

Johnny: “In sickness and in health.”

Chanel: And I’m–I’m pretty sure that “until death do us part” is also part of those vows.

Johnny: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Chanel: Yeah, well, that’s what might happen if this movie that you’re picking gives me nightmares.

Johnny: Okay, there will be no nightmares. I promise. Now…

[Indistinct chatter on tv]

Chanel: [Sobbing] She kept the painting.

Johnny: She did.

Chanel: And he thought she ghosted him at the empire state building. She really never stopped loving him.

Johnny: Mm-hmm, I told you.

Chanel: So beautiful.

Johnny: “An affair to remember” is a classic. Cary grant, deborah kerr. What more can I say? What– what are you doing?

Chanel: I don’t want to wait till next year to watch it again.

Johnny: You want to watch it again right now?

Chanel: Mm-hmm.

[Knock at door] Who’s that?

Johnny: I don’t–come in.

Allie: Hi.

Johnny: Did you guys come here to let us know what horrible people we are and how our marriage is doomed?

Allie: No, I came here to apologize.

Chanel: Really?

Allie: Yeah, when you told me you guys were married, I–I was just caught off guard, and I reacted really badly.

Johnny: Did tripp put you up to this?

Tripp: It wasn’t me. She said she couldn’t enjoy our night unless we stopped here first.

Allie: I don’t want to lose you, either of you. And if I could have a do-over, I would go back. I’d take it all back, and I would just say congratulations. And I’m hoping that as the sister of the groom and the best friend of the bride you guys would do me the honor of ringing in the new year with us, and we drink to your happiness.

[ Echoing ]

Allie: Well, I am very happy to hear that.

Johnny: Just a little rundown. I feel like I might be fighting something, but I think we can probably manage to rally. Ooh, franciacorta. Nice.

Allie: Italian sparkling wine seemed appropriate considering we missed your wedding in italy.

Chanel: That’s very thoughtful of you, horton.

Allie: Yeah, well, you deserve only the best, dupree.

Johnny: Finally something that my twin and I can agree on. Now, maybe you two could run downstairs, see if you can find a couple of glasses for this fine bottle of spirit.

Tripp: Absolutely.

Johnny: And I will hop in the shower, and we’ll meet you downstairs for the countdown at midnight.

Tripp: Sounds like a plan.

Johnny: Allie, thanks.

Gabi: When they say seven courses, they really mean it.

Lucas: Well, that’s good news. At least I cost ej his job. That’s something, I guess. Oh, well. No sense hanging around here for new year’S. Not gonna matter that much to me anyway. Sami, hey, what are you doing here?

Sami: Chad found proof that ej is the one who kidnapped me.

Lucas: Oh. Oh, man, I’m–I’m sorry. What–what does that mean?

Sami: It means I am through with ej for real this time, and I am never going back to him.

Lucas: Well, I can’t say I’m sorry to hear that. What, did you come in here for a drink?

Sami: No, I came to tell you about ej, not just that I’m finished with him but that I want to begin again with you.

John: Okay, so according to dr. Taylor, you’re not supposed to have any champagne, so I bought some strawberries and whipped cream in the fridge for a backup.

Marlena: Oh, that sounds heavenly.

John: All right. Let me grab them, and I’ll be right back. Don’t go away.

Marlena: I–I’ll be fine if you’re gone for a minute.

John: Yeah, but will I?

[Television static crackling]

Jack: Well, look who’s here.

Jennifer: Oh, aunt maggie, hi.

Maggie: Hello.

Jennifer: Oh, we missed you so much on christmas

Maggie: Oh, I’m so sorry that I couldn’t join you, but I wanted to stay close to victor.

Jennifer: Yes, of course. Is there any word on philip?

Maggie: No, I’m afraid not. But we’re doing our best to stay positive and– I noticed you took down the tree.

Jennifer: Yeah. We were up early, so we thought we would just pack it all up for next year. And this sweet angel, do you remember her?

Maggie: Oh. Yes. Oh, my goodness.

Jack: It was laura’s and, you know, when we heard about what happened to julie’s angel, my angel of a wife decided to give it right back to julie.

Maggie: What a lovely gesture.

Jennifer: Listen, I’m just so glad that– that marlena is okay and– oh, let me get you something to eat.

Maggie: No, no, really, really, I’m not here for that. I’d like to talk to you, jack.

Jack: Me? About what?

Maggie: Gwen.

Xander: Something could be really wrong.

Gwen: We don’t know that, do we? But what I do know is that if we do not go to the airport now, we will not make it in time to london for the holidays, so–

Xander: You’re joking.

Gwen: Joking about what?

Xander: I can’t possibly leave now, gwen. I have to find sarah and talk to her directly.

Gwen: Are you really–

Xander: She lied to me about where she’s been, about where she went. I have to find out why.

Gwen: Poor sarah. Stuck on a deserted island somewhere. Pining for you, I’m sure. I can’t let you find out. Because I would lose you.

Chad: I thought the kids were supposed to be doing that, cleaning up the puzzle.

Abigail: Yeah, well, it was obviously a rush job.

Chad: Yeah, now they’re on a playdate with jackson and rosie. I saw the nanny pick them up.

Abigail: Hmm, no wonder it’s so quiet around here.

Chad: I do miss hearing them laughing and playing. You know what I don’t miss? Is ej crowing about all his brilliant business decisions.

Abigail: Oh, come on, surely you miss his delightful company at dinner.

Chad: Not in the least. It has been downright peaceful and homey since he landed himself in jail on christmas eve. And a little bonus– it’s been an entire week since we had to listen to his stupid accent.

Abigail: [Laughs]

Ej: Oh, you don’t like my accent?

Sami: Lucas, we need to talk.

Lucas: All right, what is it? Is it your mom? Is she okay?

Sami: No, my mother is fine and devil-free.

Lucas: Well, then, what’s wrong?

Sami: I went to the police station. I went to see that guy jason smith, the son of a bitch who held me captive after I had been kidnapped.

Lucas: Well, that wasn’t a smart move. You need to stay clear of that guy.

Sami: After everything that I have been through, I deserve to look him in the face and make him tell me why he did it.

Lucas: And what did he say?

Sami: He said that you’re the one who hired him.

[Tense music]

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Lucas: Wait, wait, what, me? No, no, why would I hire someone to kidnap you?

Sami: You tell me.

Lucas: There’s nothing to tell, it’s insane.

Sami: Don’t try to deny it. Lucas, you’re the one who chloroformed me outside of rafe’s house, you dragged me to some cabin in wisconsin, and then you hired that animal to keep me there.

Lucas: Wait a minute, sami, listen to me, okay?

Sami: And then now you’re trying to blame ej? The hell’s the matter with you, lucas? How could you do something like that? What is wrong with you?

Lucas: Listen, I love you. I love you more than anybody I’ve ever loved in my life.

Sami: So you decided to keep me hostage in the middle of nowhere?

Lucas: I had to do it, I had to keep you away from ej.

Sami: Oh, my god.

Lucas: I never meant to hurt you.

Sami: Lucas, you are keeping me by myself away from everyone that I love and you thought that wasn’t gonna hurt me? I thought I was never gonna see my children again.

Lucas: I’m sorry, okay? I was desperate.

Sami: Well, rafe is on his way here now. And he’s gonna arrest you. And then you’re really gonna know what desperate feels like.

Lucas: Wait a minute, wait a minute. You and me, we had something really good, sami.

Sami: You and me? Lucas, there is no you and me. I want you out of my life forever. I hate you, lucas. I hate you. Lucas? Hello?

Lucas: What? I’m sorry, what’d you say?

Sami: Where did you just go? I told you that I went to see that jason guy and you totally checked out on me.

Chad: What are you doing here, ej?

Ej: I live here.

Chad: Yeah, last I heard you were arrested for kidnapping. Shouldn’t you be in a cage?

Abigail: Did sami drop the charges?

Ej: She didn’T. But the courts are backed up during the holidays and the judge finally got around to granting me bail.

Chad: Why would any judge grant you bail?

Ej: Isn’t it obvious?

Chad: You bribed him.

Ej: I was set free because I’m innocent. Not only are these kidnapping charges against me completely bogus, I was framed.

Chad: What are you talking about? Who would frame you?

Ej: Oh, there’s a long list of suspects. And at the top of it is you.

[Dramatic music]

One of the worst things about a cold sore

Abigail: That’s a ridiculous accusation. Why would chad set you up?

Ej: Why else? So he can run dimera.

Chad: I already run dimera.

Ej: We run dimera together– an arrangement that you detest. And so putting me in prison would pave the way for you to have the position all to yourself.

Chad: Yeah, but I don’t need to cook up some legal scheme to do it. I’ll just keep doing my job better than you.

Ej: Then perhaps your motive is more personal. I mean, correct me if I’m wrong, but you didn’t seem all too pleased that I cast myself as john black opposite abigail’s marlena.

Abigail: Do you really think this is about johnny’s movie, which might not even happen? Given everything that marlena just went through, why would anyone move forward making a movie about her being possessed?

Chad: Any more stupid theories, ej?

Ej: Well, damn it, somebody set me up. And there’s no shortage of other suspects.

Abigail: Like who?

Ej: Well, there’s our brother, jake, there’s rafe hernandez… and then there’s lucas horton.

Lucas: I’m sorry I just spaced out a little, I was, you know, thinking about my brother.

Sami: Oh, lucas, you must be so worried about him. Any sign of him?

Lucas: No, no, not since they found his leg. But, you know, getting back to what you were saying earlier, you know, you said that you went to see the guy who held you prisoner?

Sami: Yeah, yeah, I went to the police station and I saw him in jail. I thought if he was lying about ej being the one who hired him, he wouldn’t be able to just say that right to my face. But he stuck to his story.

Lucas: Well, you know, what do you expect? Ej’s been known to make irrational decisions from time to time, right?

Sami: I suppose.

Lucas: But now that you have proof about what your husband did, does it change the way you feel about him? Are you ready to give up on him now?

Nicole: Hey, father.

Eric: I’m sure you weren’t expecting this.

Nicole: Come in. Actually, I just read about it. Looks like you took your vows in the nick of time, huh?

Eric: I’m just glad I could be there for my mom when she needed me most.

Nicole: I’m glad marlena’s okay. But, you know, even if I hadn’t read about your return to the priesthood, it really wouldn’t surprise me because it is your true calling.

Eric: I spent a lot of time debating whether it was the right choice, but after I made it, I felt peace with it. Not that our marriage was the wrong choice.

Nicole: Our problems were not because of your devotion to god. Besides, I take great comfort in the fact that I ruined you for all other women.

Jack: So xander asked you to put in a good word for gwen.

Maggie: Well, I know it may seem insufficient considering everything that she’s done.

Jack: Willfully so.

Maggie: Look, I hate that gwen caused abigail so much pain. And I’m not here to make excuses for her. I came here because of xander. I care about him. And I can’t help but feel responsible for the broken heart that he suffered through.

Jennifer: So this is about sarah?

Maggie: Yes. My daughter. My daughter hurt him badly. I mean, honestly, I don’t understand why she did what she did. And I can’t defend it. She seemed like she loved him. But… if gwen reconciling with her father would make xander happy, and I can make that happen, then I suppose I would feel like I was repaying sarah’s debt.

Gwen: How do I do this? How do I get you off of the sarah track?

Xander: [Grunts] Morning.

Gwen: Morning.

Xander: [Sighs]

Gwen: Did you sleep all right?

Xander: Oh, like the dead. Yeah, I mean, this room, it cost a fortune but I can’t complain about the thread count.

Gwen: Yeah. Well, it’s a good thing that you’re rested because we’re probably gonna be up very late watching the ball drop and drinking lots and lots of champagne.

Xander: New year’s day. Time to let go of the old and embrace the new.

Gwen: I wholeheartedly agree.

Xander: So is that what you meant when you said you need to get me off the sarah track?

[Tense music]

Xander: So whenouay t with the old, scifically.U kn, at good si hla m all right? Not forever, just until all of this gets resolved.

Ej: And how long will that be? Damn it, chad, I’m innocent. Why the hell should i back away from dimera?

Chad: Did I not just explain it?

Ej: I won’t do it. I don’t like it.

Chad: Well, whether or not you like it is completely irrelevant. What is relevant is you need to do what’s best for the company and right now that is keeping a low profile. And me being the face of dimera.

Lucas: Are you seriously asking me why your husband didn’t kidnap you sooner?

Sami: I’m just saying it doesn’t make any sense. I mean, he had already busted me for cheating, you had just left, he had me all alone in the mansion. Why didn’t he chloroform me right there and then?

Lucas: There are plenty of reasons, I’m sure.

Sami: Such as?

Lucas: Well, off the top of my head, you know, maybe he didn’t decide to kidnap you until after you left.

Sami: You mean it was a spur of the moment idea?

Lucas: Well, you said yourself you were going to see gabi at rafe’s house. You know, to try to persuade her to let you back into the mansion. So that’s probably when ej started stewing. You know, showed up at her house and put the rag over your mouth and boom, lights out. Who else could it have been?

Gwen: Look, all I’m saying is that before maggie got sober, I’m sure that her addiction caused plenty of trust issues between her and sarah. I’m sure it damaged their relationship unbeknownst to her.

Xander: I mean, I’ve never seen anything like what you’re describing. They’ve always been very close and maggie’s been a good friend to me–and you.

Gwen: What has she done for me?

Xander: I told you. She agreed to put in a good word with jack.

Gwen: And apparently that was an epic fail, wasn’t it? Unless I missed the note that he left at the front desk? “Oh, dear gwen, all is forgiven. Love, dad.”

Xander: Well, to be fair, maggie never actually told me how that went. Maybe I should go and talk to her, yeah?

Gwen: So you can ask her about sarah?

Xander: Yeah. Look… the sooner I figure out what’s going on, the sooner you and I can… let go of the old and embrace the new.

Maggie: Well, it was lovely seeing you both.

Jennifer: Yes, aunt maggie. I love you so much. Give our best to victor. We’ll be praying for you guys.

Maggie: Thank you. Thank you.

Jack: Happy new year, maggie.

Maggie: Oh, thank you, jack. Same to you. Bye.

Maggie: Take care.

Jennifer: Yeah. Love you.

Jennifer: Wow. That was, uh, unexpected.

Jack: Maggie going to bat for gwen? I’ll say.

Jennifer: Did it work? I mean, jack, I know that there’s issues with gwen but she is your daughter, you can’t just write her off.

Jack: Write her off? You make it sound so final.

Jennifer: And I do agree with my aunt maggie. The holidays are really a time for families to come together. But I also understand it’s a really big decision, so I want you to know that I support you no matter what.

Jack: The question is… will abigail?

Chad: Well, are you gonna do the right thing for dimera? Ej, come on!

Ej: Fine, fine! I’ll keep a low profile, for now. I’ll work behind the scenes.

Chad: Okay, good. Well, I’m glad you’re on board.

Ej: For now. But make no mistake, I have no intention of slinking off into the shadows. As soon as I clear my name, I’ll be back behind my desk.

Chad: I am sure you will. But for now, I’m gonna have to go into the office and update shin.

Abigail: Okay. I’m gonna come with you. I want to stop by my parents’.

Chad: Ej… happy new year.

Ej: [Sighs]

Lucas: Ej did this, sami. I know you don’t want to think about it, I know you don’t belie it, but he did the motive and the means.

[Phone rings]

Sami: It’s ej.

Lucas: What are you doing? Don’t get it.

Sami: Well, I– ej, I thought you were in jail.

Ej: I was just released on bail. It’s good to hear your voice, samantha.

Sami: Why are you calling me?

Ej: I need to see you. Can you come by the house?

Sami: I’ll be right there.

[Line disconnects]

Lucas: Be right where? Where are you going? Don’T. He’s gonna feed you a bunch of lies, you know it.

Sami: I just want to hear what he has to say.

Lucas: She doesn’t believe that ej’s guilty. I gotta put the final nail in the coffin. But how? Ah. Bingo.

Jack: How do you think abigail will feel about me reconciling with gwen?

Jennifer: I have no idea, jack. And the only person who can answer that question is abigail.

Abigail: Well, then it’s a good thing I’m here. Hi.

Jack: Hey, sweetheart, hi.

Abigail: Hi, what’d you want to ask me?

Jennifer: Uh–

[Phone rings] Oh, excuse me. Sorry. I have to take this. Hello?

Jack: Uh, well, actually, I– I am the one with the question and I have to tell you right now, it is not an easy one.

Abigail: Well, then I’m guessing it’s about gwen.

Jack: Yes, it is. I am thinking of reconciling with gwen. But, honey, I know how much she has hurt you. I know. And I’m not gonna do anything until you tell me how you feel about it.

Xander: Henderson let me in.

Maggie: Hello. I’m really glad you’re here. I just came from talking to jack. Put that good word in that you asked me to.

Xander: Thank you. Thank you, maggie.

Maggie: Listen, I apologize for not doing it sooner.

Xander: It’s no worries. How did he respond?

Maggie: Best to give it some time, okay? Yeah.

Xander: Regardless of the outcome, I’m very appreciative of the effort. And I’m sure gwen will be too.

Maggie: Yeah.

Xander: But I’m actually here about sarah.

Maggie: Sarah? Why?

Xander: I ran into rex the other day and he told me they’re not together anymore.

Maggie: What? They’re not?

Xander: In fact, he told me they never were. They didn’t even leave town together.

Maggie: Wait a minute, I can’t believe this.

Xander: That’s why I wanted to talk to you. Didn’t you tell me that you were receiving texts from sarah saying how happy she was overseas with rex?

Maggie: Yes, I had been, but–hmm. You know, I haven’t heard from her in quite a while.

Xander: She didn’t text you on christmas?

Maggie: No. I texted her, but I didn’t get a reply. I just– wow, I just assumed that she was busy or that she was someplace where there was no cell signal. But now, I mean– oh, xander, this is– this is very strange. And this is very worrisome. Oh, god. [Breathes sharply] What could’ve happened? Why didn’t sarah tell me?

Ej: You can do this, ej. Just tell samantha the truth. She loves you. She’ll believe you.

[Doorbell rings]

Ej: Nicole!

Nicole: Don’t be too excited.

Ej: Sorry, I–

Nicole: You were expecting someone else.

Ej: I was just surprised, that’s all.

Nicole: I saw on the news that you made bail so I just wanted to come by and see how you were doing.

Ej: Very well now that I’m on the road to clearing my name.

Sami: What the hell is she doing here?

Chad: Don’t worry, shin, I’ve made it very clear that ej needs to stay away from dimera. Well, he’s not happy about it, but he understands it’s the right thing to do. Absolutely. I actually have a meeting with the pr team here in a few minutes. So… yes, I’ll keep you updated. Great. Thanks.

[Suspenseful music]

Okay, we’re not gonna ask for

Abigail: You’re right, gwen did hurt me. And, honestly, you know, I’d be happy if I never saw her again. But if I forbid you from seeing her, then that hurts you and I don’t want to do that. So if you want to rebuild your relationship with gwen, I’m not gonna get in your way.

Jennifer: How’s it going over here?

Jack: Well, my very gracious and understanding daughter has given me her blessing to try to repair my relationship with her sister.

Jennifer: You really okay with that, honey?

Abigail: I mean, we’re moving into a new year and I just wanna do whatever I can to make it a really good one for us.

Jennifer: Amen to that.

Jack: Amen to that. Well, I’ll tell you what, I’m gonna try and give her a call right now. And we’ll just see what we can do, okay?

Jennifer: Wait, wait, jack, but before you do that… I have some really big news that is going to have a big impact on all of our lives.

Xander: Look, why don’t you try and call sarah now, see if you can get to the bottom of it?

Maggie: Yeah, I’ll try, yes, but, you know, in the last couple of weeks it’s just gone to voicemail.

[Phone beeps]

[Line ringing] Oh. Come on.

Automated voice: We’re sorry, the number you have reached is not in service.

Xander: What? What happened?

Automated voice: Try your call again.

Maggie: Oh, my god.

Xander: Maggie, what? I can tell she didn’t answer, but why didn’t you leave a message?

Maggie: Because it, um… it didn’t go to voicemail. I got a recording. It said, “this number is no longer in service.”

Ej: Nicole just stopped by to see how I was doing.

Nicole: Should’ve locked the door behind me. Kept all the riffraff out.

Sami: Will you please ask her to leave?

Ej: Nicole can hear what I have to say. Which is I’m not the one who kidnapped you, samantha. I was framed.

Sami: Really? Who do you think framed you?

Ej: Isn’t it obvious? It was your ex-husband, lucas.

Sami: [Scoffs]

Lucas: Sorry, mom, if you didn’t want me using your password, you shouldn’t have written it down in your planner. I have no choice, I have to do this. It’s the only way I can make sure that ej goes down for sami’s kidnapping.

Chad: Of course, I forget everything that I– lucas? What are you doing in here?
