It reminded me of the time I helped britt with that miracle baby born on christmas eve. You know, if you think about it, I guess every life is a miracle.

[ Chuckles ] Yeah. So, uh, what brings you to the q stables so bright and early? Mac has been trying to reach you. He’s in the middle of an investigation. Otherwise he would have come here to tell you himself. Tell me what? I am so sorry, cody. Britt died last night. Maxie jones, you and britt westbourne were friends and related by marriage, right? Do you have a comment on her tragic death? Can you please have the decency to let us grieve before you hound us with questions? Hey! Hey! Leave her alone! Whoa, whoa, whoa. This is my hotel. My favorite security guard looked the other way again and covered for me while I slipped out for a little night air. And where’d you go? Oh, you know, this way and that. It’s just so tragic and unbelievable. And [Sighs, chuckles] She wasn’t just my boss. I-I respected her. She was my friend. I know. It is tragic, baby. Because… this morning when I woke up, I watched you sleep. And, baby, I was just… I was overcome with gratitude for you and for us. Look, life goes on. Just has to. [ Chuckles ] That is a calathea. The florist says it symbolizes new beginnings. Well, that gave me hope. Because you and i are a new beginning. Britt got nicked by the hook and — and — and the venom poisoned her. So she died on the night of her first birthday party. It’s tragic. It’s hard to make sense of it. Yep. W-w-why would the hook target her? From what I understand, the attacker was targeting someone else. Britt stepped in and saved one life, only to lose her own. Yeah, but she was a doctor. She was destined to save so many more lives. Her poor mother.

[ Sighs deeply ] Does dr. Obrecht know? Britt died in her mother’s arms. At least she wasn’t alone. This is just so unbelievable. I mean… you know, as smart and as beautiful as britt was, she… life never seemed to give her a break. That sounds like someone else I know. Thank you both for — for meeting me here. Um… I had — I talked to the funeral home and they need something for britt to wear.

[ Sighs ] And aunt liesl, she’s not up to it, of course. And honestly, I’m not sure I am, either. Did anyone talk to the police? Are they okay with us going to her room? Y-yeah. I talked to mac and he said it was fine because britt was not the intended target. She… she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Wrong for her, but she did manage to save someone else’s life. Britt would have loved to hear people talk about her as a hero.

[ Chuckles ] Yeah.

[ Chuckles ] And I could just s-see her lapping it up. Making all the haters eat every nasty word they ever said to her.

[ Exhales deeply ]

[ Voice breaking ] Why isn’t she here? My whole life I was always a loner. I didn’t make many friends, and then to meet your bff in your 30s… how can I live in a world without her?

[ Sobbing ] Hey. Remember the last time we saw her? How hard she pushed for us to become friends? Let’s honor her in that way. And — and let’s spare liesl from having to pick out her last outfit. So, apparently britt had some of her things shipped on her birthday, I’m guessing, to wherever she was going on vacation. Her entire wardrobe? The front desk also said that she arranged to have a bunch of her clothes delivered to G.H. Charities. It’s almost like britt knew she wasn’t coming back. No, no, no way. She had just thrown herself this huge birthday party. Yeah. Yeah. But why have us plan it and insist that we become friends? When we’re so obviously not. Yeah, but the point is, britt wanted us to be. It was really important to her. It’s almost like she knew we would need each other. Wait. Her will. She said she’d just written one and was leaving everything to me. I mean, who — who does that at her age? And then plans a vacation out of nowhere? Not to mention her giving cody the heave-ho. It’s like she was burning all of her bridges. Yeah, but why? And why couldn’t she share that with me? We were friends. Best friends, but… I guess I never really knew britt at all. Okay. All right. Britt had something that I wanted and I thought that I could ma– [ Sighs ] You know, it doesn’t really matter what I thought. Truth is, I used her until she caught on and then rightfully kicked me to the curb, which was a smart decision on her part. Except now she’ll never know. Brit will never know what? Um, that I learned too late, that all I really wanted was her. For some time, britt knew that she had a ticking bomb inside her. What does that mean? Well, it means that she inherited something from her father. Britt had huntington’s disease. Oh, my god. When I was working at G.H., I saw people with huntington’S. It took a terrible toll on their lives. Well, why didn’t britt tell us? Why — why’d she face this alone? No. Well, she wasn’t alone. She wasn’T. She had her mom, and scott knew. Yeah, but why wouldn’t she tell me o-or brad? Well, she didn’t actually tell me. It was aunt liesl. And aunt liesl told me when she — she was just overwhelmed with everything that britt was facing. She had to talk to someone. Wait a minute. Austin knew, too, didn’t he? The birthday gift he gave her? The photos of her life? That’s why he did it. Yeah. Seeing all the people that she loves gave her courage.

[ Sniffles ] At my worst moment when the baby switch came out, britt didn’t walk away from me, and I never would have walked away from her.

[ Voice breaking ] I didn’t need her to be brave. I just need her in my life. I still do.

[ Exhales sharply ] We all do. Liesl, I’m really sorry that you have to hear this from me. I-I-I begged britt to open up to you, but she just [Sighs] She couldn’t, I guess. I don’t know. I mean, the only reason that I know that she was leaving town for good was I happened to catch her in a particularly vulnerable moment. You don’t understand. I’ve never been prouder of mein britta.

[ Exhales sharply ] You see, my relationship with britta was… complicated, to say the least. There were times she hated me and times that I felt she betrayed me. But somehow, despite all that, we — we found our way back together, not just as mother and daughter, but as good friends.

[ Laughs ] It’s just like her to spare the rest of us and sail off into the sunset alone. But you said she came back for us? Why? What changed her mind? You’re sure you don’t remember my twin brother? He’s kind of hard to forget. Is he as kind as you are, doctor?

[ Chuckles ] Well, I guess you could say he’s being kind at the moment because he has no other choice. You actually used to take care of him. I did. Was I a nurse? Mm. No. You, uh — you had an internship. Elizabeth: The patient is in with dr. Collins. Not for long. Martin? I’m in the middle of counseling a patient. Yeah, well, that’s the problem. One man’s counseling is another man’s third degree. I’m afraid I have to ask you to cease and desist immediately. On whose authority? By the authority of the superior court of port charles county. This poor, unfortunate soul may be your patient, but as of… one hour and 15 minutes ago, she’s my client.

All that’s left is an empty hotel room. God, she must have felt so alone and so scared.

[ Breathing heavily ] You know what? Don’t worry about it. I’ve got it handled. This is gonna be britt’s last look ever.

[ Sniffles ] I’m not letting you choose some boring dress at wyndham’S. Well, if you think I’m letting you dress her in some fast fashion trash, you’ve got another thing coming.

[ Sighs ] Come on, maxie. She needs something with style and — and impact. Maxie: Style? Yes! I would like to spend some more time observing esme and consult with the neurologist that dr. Ashford brought in. But my initial assessment… is that esme has suffered significant memory loss. Permanent? No way to tell. But if so, we may never know where she’s been or who’s been taking care of her. Well, at seven months pregnant, esme was in no condition to be able to take out an officer or kill britt westbourne on the pier last night. So the more pressing question is, who really is the hook killer? I don’t believe that britt’s murderer will go unpunished. I don’t know if you know this, but the police have a suspect, here in G.H. Under guard 24/7. All I remember is waking up in here. I-I haven’t killed anyone. I couldn’t! You do believe me, don’t you? It’s okay. The best thing you can do for yourself is just rest. Nurse baldwin. Yes? You do believe me, right? Nikolas, my priority is finding lucy. I haven’t got time for this. Hey, you may have been assigned the case pro bono, but I will double your normal fee. The mother of my child, she must be kept safe, not hounded by the police until she gives birth. And then what? Triple your normal fee.

[ Scoffs ] Deal. Esme is in good hands with uncle martin. I am so happy we had this little talk. I will just find another hook, and then we are back in business. Uh, what happened to the first hook? [ Chuckles ] Well, because you know him, you know. Y-you probably know him better than anyone else now. And I just was hoping maybe you could shed some light on why he seems so afraid. [ Monitor beeping ] What happened? Well, you’re being treated for hypothermia. Hypothermia? Why? I was hoping you could tell me. That, and also, uh, where you’ve been hiding out the last six months? But I also remember a time when the two of you shared everything. Yeah, I thought so, too. But now I’m — I’m questioning everything. Even the happy moments. Well, I know for a fact that he regrets his choices. And, well, if I’m being perfectly honest, I have a few regrets, too. Keep your voice down. You think you can keep this a secret? Esme will wake up, and when she does, she is going to blow you out of the water. I don’t know how pregnant she is, but I definitely know that it’s not mine, which leaves you. I-I think the whole hospital hears you. At best, esme is a conniving liar w-who drugs people and torches cars. And films people without their knowledge. And frames an innocent person for it. But I cannot give you any answers yet.

[ Shivers ] 10 minutes until I say goodbye to port charles. Maxie: Well, that’s it. Mostly everyone went to go see the fireworks at pier 47. That was a good party, if I do say so myself. No broken glass, broken furniture — maybe a broken nail or two. Since britt waited a lifetime to have a birthday party, at least she had a good one. Yes, maxie. It was a wonderful party. I’m sure britta cherished every moment. Yeah, she seemed to. That’s why I’m kinda surprised she cut out early.

[ Scoffs ] I knew I was late, but I didn’t think I was that late. Now, I’m not complaining, but why are we back out here again? Weren’t you cold before? The more pda, the better, right? Again, I am not complaining.

[ Buoy bell ringing, waves crashing ] We were convincing with our act, weren’t we? Mm-hmm. Do you think people suspect we’re more than friends? Well, maxie certainly does. Did you see how she looked at us?

[ Chuckles ] And I saw a few double takes when we went inside. Me too. And the G.H. Crew was here. And my mom says they love to gossip, so I’m sure somebody will be spilling the tea about trina robinson getting close with the infamous, recently jailed spencer cassadine.

[ Laughs ] Along with that photo that ran in the invader of the two of us with my grandmother. Right. Yeah. The post you made of us from the party. And before you know it, people will think we’re a couple. Well, our interest is in a party of one — esme. This is why esme kept begging for a tree. She didn’t care about christmas. She just wanted a diversion so she could get away. Get away? Yeah. Esme set a fire. When I ran to put it out, she took off. Nikolas, where is she now? I have no idea. Mmm. Still too warm? No, it’s hot. Oh. Hence the name hot cocoa and not warm cocoa. Well, why couldn’t we have just gone back to our place and had warm cocoa in our kitchen?

[ Breathes sharply ] Uh, I could say that we were out of whipped cream or the cocoa packets we have is full of chemicals and really old. Or that, here at kelly’s, the new year’s double chocolate peppermint cocoa is the best. Hm. Um, or I just could be honest and tell you that I didn’t want to ring in the new year doing…dishes. Okay, just so you know, I didn’t want you ringing in the new year doing dishes, either. But I did want a — an excuse to get us back to the house so we could ring in the new year doing…other things. Why didn’t you say so… to begin with? Well, because, I don’t know. Just didn’t wanna — oh, what’s up, man? You got the night off? Happy new year. Same to you guys. How’s the — how’s the job — working for my father?

[ Grunts ]

Guess I’ll skip the hot chocolate. Dante. Are you trying to build a case against your father? Oh, no! Man! I missed it.

[ Sighs ] That’s what happens when you show up later than late. I’m sorry. I thought I could kinda sneak in at the end of britt’s party. Looks like a good time was had by all. That it was. You and carly really missed out. Sorry, wh– what was that about carly? Like you, carly also arrived too late for the festivities. I’m surprised you didn’t run into her on the deck with the pier. Oh, yeah, no, I… can’t really speak for carly, but I was working. I was on a call with a couple of reporters trying to track down an important lead. Well, shame on you for working on new year’s eve.

[ Chuckles ] I know. I know. I really did, uh, intend to be here to celebrate britt. I wanted to — I wanted to tell her how much I admire her. She made a crucial difference when we were trying to escape cassadine island.

[ Breathes deeply ] She still here by any chance? She left. She left. Well, I’m sorry I missed her. But you gotta be so proud, liesl. You raised a brave and gallant lady.

[ Fireworks exploding ] Oh! I love fireworks.

[ Chuckles ] But not if they delay my boat.

[ Chuckles ] I can see why you guys like each other. Yeah. When my father and britt were engaged, I was thrilled.

[ Fireworks exploding ] Britt seemed to me like the perfect stepmother. She wasn’t motherly by any stretch of the imagination, more like the world’s coolest friend. But she never talked down to me. She got me. She still does.

[ Buoy bell ringing, waves crashing ] Mm. In a way, I guess I’m glad that my father and britt never made it to the altar.

[ Fireworks exploding ] It would have hurt too much when…they inevitably broke up. You never expect anything good to last, do you? How can you have no idea where esme is? Because esme made her way to the turret and she jumped! She jumped? Yeah! She went into the water! And she did this to herself? She just dove off the turret? Elizabeth, I did not push esme. She spread her arms, and she pitched herself backward. She went into the water. I went down to the shore, and I searched. There’s no sign of her. I don’t know if esme drowned. Or — or she may be hiding on the island. Or — or maybe she made her way to the mainland. I don’t see how that’s possible. Well, she’s done it before and survived. Well, she wasn’t in her third trimester, and it wasn’t january. The harbor is freezing. I don’t see how she could possibly survive this.

[ Grunting ]

[ Gasping, panting ] Help! Help! Help!

[ Breathes sharply ] Seeing you is the perfect way to celebrate. Seeing? Come on, we can do better than that. You know, josslyn wasn’t completely wrong about my father. I know, but joss has her reasons to be angry with sonny. They shouldn’t be your reasons. Right. And they’re not. They’re not. But I-I am struggling with knowing what he did to dex. It’s — it’s put a spotlight on the conflict I have around my father. That’s a fine line. I mean, you’ve been walking it for years. Why would you change your mind now? I-I look at chase, and I see how badly he wants his job back. And I remember being like that. You know? I feel for him. I wanted to be a cop long before I found out sonny was my father. I-I believed in the job. You know, I wanted to help people. I wanted to protect people. And, yeah, sure, there’s all sorts of crimes and criminals and mitigating circumstances and intolerance and injustice. But I — I feel like I’ve — I’ve found a way to use my discretion when I can, as long as it’s within the bounds of the law. I know you do. And that’s one of the reasons why I admire and respect you — because you are solid, dante. You define what it means to be a good cop. You’re strong. You’re fair. You’re compassionate. You’re not a bully with a badge. You just want justice. That’s what I’m wrestling with right now. Like, what does — what does justice look like when it’s applied to my father? It was very kind of drew to stop by. [ Chuckles ] I appreciated the things he said about my britta. He’s a good man and a brave one. He and britta stood up to peter on cassadine island. They saved my life. I try not to think about peter and the time I spent with him. Or all the harm he caused. But he did give me bailey lou. She is a joy and a miracle. And I can’t regret that. I understand. I curse the day I laid eyes on cesar faison. But I can’t regret the children I had with him. Nathan and britta were my saving grace. Thank you for giving my daughter this party. Britt threw herself the party. Brad and I — we just helped. I never realized she longed for a birthday party as a child. I wish I’d made better choices as a mother, found a way to keep nathan with me, given britta the love and support she deserved. I squandered so much time. And now nathan’s gone and britta’S… what about britt?

[ Shouting ]

[ Groans ]

[ Weakly ] Britt, you saved my life.

[ Gasping ] I couldn’t have gotten away if you hadn’t showed up. She would have killed me. Thank you. You’re welcome. But let’s face it — we’d both be toast if it wasn’t for this guy.

[ Breathing sharply ] Okay, I yelled at you, but I am so grateful. I just wish you would have done the world a favor and put an end to that psycho. It wasn’t a clear shot. I didn’t want to risk hitting you. Well, thanks for that.

[ Sighs ] Guess we should call the cops. Wait. Not so fast. S-sonny’s a-a-a criminal by profession. Yet he walks around with this air of respectability, importing coffee and funding hospital wings, and we all walk around like we don’t know who he really is, which is a mob boss. And it’s not like he’s some desperate criminal who’s gotta rob a store to survive. He chose this life. Yeah, sure, maybe — maybe circumstances kind of threw him into the criminal world in the first place, but — but he’s older, he’s wiser, he could have cut out and — and gone legit years ago, and he chose not to. Okay, it’s not only about greed, power, and ambition. Sonny can’t just resign from organized crime, dante. You know that. And, also, sonny fills some sort of a void. I think he’s a better alternative than anyone who might take his place.

[ Sighs ] And many have tried. And I would go after them and I would take them down just like I was eager to take down sonny when I first got to town. I understand where michael’s coming from right now — I really do, but over the years, you know, getting to know sonny, my father, I’ve come to love him and the — I can’t even fathom the thought — it keeps me up at night — of having to build a case against him one day. But isn’t that injustice? Isn’t that the definition of it — applying the law to some and not others? Isn’t that a betrayal to my oath, to my badge, to everything I supposedly stand for? Britta and I are in a much better place now. But for ye ars, I was –I was harsh and critical. I didn’t make her feel valued for the amazing person she is. We only ge t one childhood,and britta’s could have been…

…should have been better than it was. That’s my great shame. But that’s also in the past. I see the love you two share now. That’s what important, liesl.

[ Breathes deeply ] I’m so glad nathan married you. And I’m thankful my grandson has you as his mother. You’re everything to your children that I wasn’t to mine — warm, supportive, loving. You value them for who they are, not what they can achieve. Maybe it’s because it took me a while to get myself together. Of course I want to give my kids the world… but I want them to figure out how they define success. I want them to feel fulfilled and have purpose in their life. They have to figure out how to do that. All I can do is support them through their successes and failures and love them as they find their own path in life. Nathan would be so proud to hear you say that. I can see why he loved you so much.

[ Buoy bell ringing, waves crashing ] Do you remember where you were a year ago tonight? On the bridge with you. Yeah, I remember.

[ Chuckles ] I don’t think I could ever forget. That’s when — that’s when everything started to turn for me. How so? Well, you know, coming back was harder for me than I thought. Everywhere I looked was just a reminder of what I’d lost, what I couldn’t get back. But then…

[Inhales deeply] I wound up on the bridge, and there you were. Mm. Feeling pretty miserable, if I recall. Mm. For good reason. But talking to you that night — it was just so easy. And it was…so real. And I could… relax, be myself. And when I was looking into those gorgeous blue eyes, I saw that a future was possible. A positive future with hope and with some laughter, and that’s when I stopped being angry and I started looking forward. And then now, a year later, I’m still looking ahead. I still see such a positive future… …in those same beautiful eyes. Elizabeth: This is all our fault. We pushed esme to the brink. I wasn’t gonna kill her. She didn’t know that! I have no idea what you said to her, but obviously she was so desperate to escape, she was willing to risk her own life and the life of her child. Oh, my god, I have no idea all the names of the crimes I’ve committed. There’s kidnapping and false imprisonment and aiding and abetting and assaulting. Elizabeth! Elizabeth, stop. Hey. The crimes don’t matter because no one is ever going to know. I know that I have lived a life of privilege. I have had every material thing just for the asking. So I’m not expecting you to feel sorry for me. Don’t worry. I don’T.

[ Buoy bell ringing, waves crashing ] I’m not making excuses, trina. But my mother died the day I was born, and my father has been inconsistent. People have come and gone from my life, people who I’ve cared about and who I wanted to count on. And the only person who has stayed has been my grandmother, and she has been nothing short of wonderful. But aside from her, nothing good has ever really lasted. Just because it’s been that way up to this point doesn’t mean it’s gonna be that way forever. You could still find something good to hold on to.

[ Breathes sharply ] Well, when you say it… I almost believe it.

[ Door opens ]

[ Woman shivering ]

[ Shivering violently ]

[ Shivering ]

[ Groans ] Um… she’s freezing, but she has a pulse. Um… yeah, she’s breathing. She’s pregnant! Her lips are blue. I think that she has hypothermia. We need to get her to a hospital. Okay.

[ Grunts ]

[ Groans ] I still love nathan. I do n’t bring him up oftenbecause it hurts so much. But I think about him all the time. Nathan was such a calm presence. He was never jealous or vindictive or manipulative. He gave me such a feeling of security, one that I — I haven’t felt since. And you miss it? I miss him. Maybe that’s why I tried to rush to fill that void — you know, with peter and then with austin. Not that you could ever compare the two of them. I’m sorry you were let down, maxie. Peter presented himself as a good man, and you wanted to believe it. Austin seems like a good man, but he’s just not the man for you. And I hope you know, if I ever do find the right man… …t hat doesn’t mean I willever forget about nathan. I know, maxie.

[ Breathes sharply ] I am so grateful you and I are still in each other’s lives. And I, too, see nathan living on in our dreams.

[ Laughs ] Will you please stop beating yourself up over britt? All parents make mistakes, liesl. And you obviously [Sniffles] Made some good choices because britt is awesome. And I see how much she loves her mom. Have you ever covered upa crime that sonny’s committed? No. Never. I-I mean, maybe I’ve…

[Breathes deeply] Avoided asking certain questions I didn’t want to know the answers to. And the department, they — they know that cops are human and have conflicts of interest, right? Of course. Of course. And every cop has to bow out of a case if they know they do have a conflict. Have you ever done that? Every time when it’s a direct conflict of interest, yeah. So you’ve done your duty, and you will continue to do so. You’re not dishonoring your badge by [Breathes deeply] Loving your father. And the fact that you are worried about this right now just goes to show me what a decent and responsible cop you are. Thank you. No, I mean that. You have a way ofcanceling out the noise… …and helping me see things clearly. It’s a gift.

[ Cellphone ringing ] I-I’m supposed to be off the clock. No, no, no. It must be important. Take it.

[ Ringing continues ] Falconeri.

[ Sighs ] Are you the one who reported a hook sighting? I didn’t just sight her, I fought off that maniac. Ma’am, we’ve had at least 10 hook sightings tonight. Stories in the invader have people jumping at shadows, you know? No shadow drops that. Nor did a shadow ruin my favorite bag!

[ Police radio chatter ] Notify csi and get them down asap. And secure the area. We can’t have any evidence compromised. Get some more uniforms here. Keep any strollers away, all right? This is a crime scene. Ma’am, what’s your name? Dr. Britt westbourne. Dr. Westbourne, can you tell me what happened? I was on my way back to the haunted star when I heard the sounds of a struggle. When I got here, I saw the hook was about to stab this young woman, so I whacked her with my bag. Wait, s-so there was another victim? Where is she? I don’t know what happened to her. By the time I drove the hook off, she was gone. I don’t know about you, but I could use a drink. Scotch okay? Yeah, sure.

[ Bottle opens, liquid pouring ] Ow.

[ Bottle thumps lightly ]

[ Sighs ] Thank you.

[ Breathes sharply ] Never had scotch before, have you? First time for everything.

[ Sighs ] Take it easy. You’re still coming down off the adrenaline. You saved britt’s life. And mine. I owe you. You don’t owe me anything, joss. God, I can’t believe you had britt cover for us. That maniac needs to be captured. We should have stayed and given the police a statement. Okay, and told them what? Can you identify the hook? No. They were wearing a mask. Probably because diane had seen their face. Right, and I only saw her from the side. So what good would our statements have been? Britt can stay and tell them about the mask. Britt didn’t shoot the hook. You did. Right. I did, with a gun sonny gave me.

No one knew esme was here except for us and demetrius. I’ll send demetrius back to greece immediately. It’ll be like none of this ever happened. I don’t know how I let myself get pulled into this. I agreed to take care of esme, and I didn’T. And I didn’t take her desperation seriously. And because of it, this happened. And now you want me to cover it up and pretend like none of this happened? and they’re on their way. Carly: You know what I remember about that night? Hm? I remember that it was the first time in months that I wasn’t hurting.

[ Buoy bell ringing, waves crashing ] That I wasn’t choking on anger or disappointment or everything that had happened with sonny. And I remember how good it was to see your smile and to hear your laugh. And I was so shocked that I was laughing, too, because…

[Sighs] …I never thought I was gonna be happy again. You know? Sonny broke my heart last year, and he broke what was left of our marriage, and he almost broke me. But I was able to come back to myself. And you were a large part of that. So, it all started last new year’s eve on that bridge. And I could never imaginethat we would be here right now. Hm. But I get to do now what I couldn’t do then. And what’s that? This. The police should know to be on the lookout for a woman with a gunshot wound in her arm. I don’t even know if I hit her, but if I did, she’s not gonna go to the hospital for treatment.

[ Sighs ] No, I guess not. Look… there is nothing we can tell the cops that will help them catch the hook. But they will confiscate the gun for which I have no license. And it can’t be traced as far as I know, which is also suspicious. What is that? The shell casing. I’m pretty sure from the trajectory that the bullet either went into the hook or into the water. So, either way, there’s no evidence a gun was ever fired. Nothing that can be tracked back to sonny. Right. You got to protect the boss at all costs. Because I don’t need problems with sonny, especially if it gets between you and me.

[ Breathes sharply ] Let’s make that a new year’s resolution. Really? You know, new year’s resolutions are meant to be broken, but you’re really good at keeping promises, and I’m learning, so, okay.

[ Chuckles ] Let’s promise each other to meet somewhere private and warm… mm. Mm-hmm. …And really, really soon. That’s a promise. In the meantime…

[ Breathes sharply ] …To celebrating new year’S… mm. …You and me together — last year, this year, and many, many more to come.

[ Glasses clink ] Sam! Hey! Hey. How — mind if I join you? I’m waiting for my rideshare, but they can’t pick me up for another half an hour. Oh, congratulations. Mine is 45 minutes out. So I think you’ve got me beat by like 15 minutes. Oh, well, cancel. You can share mine. Let me guess — you and dante were celebrating, and he got called into work. Mm. [ Sighs ] Okay. I wonder who the father could be. Hey, trina, spencer, you guys found esme prince, yeah?

[ Elevator bell dings ] Do you want to tell me what happened? Well, she found us. We were on the deck of the haunted star. Britt’s party had ended, and we were still hanging out and talking. And then we heard someone approaching. And then we looked up, and esme was standing there, soaking wet. Did she said anything? I mean, she just looked at us and passed out. How did you guys know to come down here? I called. Um… esme had attacked elizabeth a few weeks ago, and I thought that she should know that she didn’t have to worry anymore. What about you, nikolas? Elizabeth and I were together when she got the call. And I wanted to be here for my son.

[ Door opens, closes ] Hey, doctor,I’m detective falconeri. Can you tell me about esme prince’s condition? Miss prince is being treated for hypothermia. Otherwise, there are no signs of injury. She’s resting comfortably and should wake up any time. Okay, she’s a person of interest in an investigation. Can I see her, please? Certainly. Want to get something to drink? Yeah, maybe you should go with trina. I’ll text you if there’s any changes. I’d like to believe that you’re here out of concern for me, but I know that you always have an ulterior motive. So what is it? This is everything she had with her.

[ Monitor beeping ] She had this with her? Must have. We took everything off her and bagged it. It’s standard protocol. Thanks.

[ Beeping continues ]

[ Dramatic music plays ]

[ Laughs ] Okay. We should go in. People will wonder why we’re not there. That is the point. To make people wonder about us so that word gets back to esme. Did he wake up? Oh, no. He’s completely zonked out. Poor guy. He was so determined to make it to midnight. Well, he got to see midnight… in london. Which was genius on your part. But wiley really wanted to stay up and ring in the new year here in port charles. Well, there’s always next year. Why did you want to come here for dessert instead of staying at the restaurant? Because nothing on their menu looked as good to me as an ice cream sundae. And I hope that doesn’t disappoint you. Nothing with you ever disappoints me. I’m just glad it’s just the two of us. Yeah. I’m really sorry to make you wait out here. I just need some privacy to talk to cam. Take as long as you need. Thanks. What, are you trying to match me?

[ Laughs ] Hi. Hey. Happy new year. Happy new year. What brings you to kelly’s on new year’s eve? I’m not just worried about you. I’m worried about spencer. If you know something, you should tell me. [ Cheers and applause ] Whoo! Elizabeth. Hey, I know this is none of my business. But I’m still a doctor, and I — I still care about you. You know that drinking this early in your pregnancy isn’t good for the baby. Finn, there is no baby. We should join the party. Hey, just a little longer. We want everyone to miss us, remember? Spencer… this is a very dangerous game. It’s not all a game. I-I came to talk to cam. Oh, joss, cameron’s not here. He’s filling in for one of the catering crew. Oh. Do you know when he’ll be back? Sit here and what, guzzle champagne while you go without? No. I am very happy with my sparkling cider. So am I. We can have champagne next year. I thought we were going to celebrate with wiley next year. Well, we can do both. Champagne for us and cider for wiley. Then maybe we can wake up the baby, and all four of us can ring in the new year together. Because nothing says “happy new year” like a screaming baby. Well, maybe our daughter will be a night owl, and she’ll like staying up at midnight. Then you can be the one to get her back to sleep. Okay. You have my solemn promise. Michael… what if I’m not here next year? I’m so sorry for your loss. Thanks. I wouldn’t blame you if you said this was poetic justice. I would never say that. You know, you and — you guys could try again. What happened with nikolas was never going to last. Ava knows, but I never told the boys. Not that you owe me anything, but — they won’t hear it from me. Yeah, our new year’s resolution is a do-it-yourself remodel of the den. That’s impressive. What about you? Any resolutions? To become a doctor. What? Yeah. Wow. Since when? Well, a lot of it has to do with when I found ava after she had been stabbed. And I just felt so helpless. I just didn’t know what to do to help her. And then I realized that I can learn what to do. So I decided to submit my application to switch my major to pre-med. Wow. That is amazing. You’re going to be an incredible doctor. Good for you for going through something terrible and finding a positive way to take action. Thank you. And, god, I hope the police find esme and locks her up and throws away the key. Yeah. Look, I want to catch the hook killer, too, but we don’t know that it’s esme for sure. And we both know what happens when we jump to conclusions, right? What am I missing? Well, for a while there, sony thought that dex was behind the killings. Right, joss? I should have never come back to port charles. I would have done everyone a favor if I just — I stayed dead. No, don’t say that. Don’t you ever say that. Nikolas, I was heartbroken when I thought that I had lost you. And spencer, that’s when he began to spiral. And actually, I don’t think he ever really recovered from it. We need you to fight for yourself and to fight for us. You know, if you give in to victor now, he will never let go, honey. What if it’s too late? It’s not. It is not too late. I will back you up with every possible resource I can muster. Everything, I promise you. Look, if you could have a clean slate, wipe it clean and start over, would you do it? Is it possible? Yes, it is possible. It is never too late. It can start tonight. All you have to do is decide — do you belong to victor or do you belong to yourself? Trina: I hope joss and cam join us before midnight. Spencer: Yeah. They will if he can get off work on time. You care so much for this baby, and yet you won’t do a thing to help me, even though you know I didn’t hurt anyone. Maybe you didn’t kill anyone, but you’ve hurt a lot of people, my son included. Oh. So this is revenge, after all. It’s not. The way I see it, you have two options — you can either stay in this tower, or you can face prosecution for the slew of crimes you’ll be charged with if I turn you in. Well, there is a third option. Set me free so I can leave town and raise my baby. And why would I do that? It wasn’t that long ago that you threatened a hunger strike and refused to take your prenatal vitamins. Because I’m desperate. Can’t you see that? Elizabeth, I swear I will take care of this baby, but I-I need to be free so we can be safe. On the run, no family or resources, constantly looking over your shoulder — how is that any safer than a roof over your head, nutritious meals, and consistent care? Because I won’t have to live with the fear that nikolas will kill me as soon as I give birth.

There’s two reasons people want ship under cloak of darkness — either what they’re moving is dirty or what they’re moving is being supplied to dirty people. In this case, both. This deal is extremely lucrative for sonny, but also extremely dicey. This is it. This is how we bring sonny down. This isn’t like busting sonny on rico violations. Pikeman had contractors in afghanistan. They’re heavy hitters. Just think twice before messing with them. Are you backing out? The other day, you were worried. Well, that was a lovely memorial for rory yesterday. It really was. Thank you for being there. Oh, of course. I’ll do anything to support you. You know that. Yeah, I know I can count on you. Well, my question is… can you count on spencer? Ah, spencer. Glad I caught you. Uncle victor, I was just on my way to — please, join me, won’t you? Promise I won’t keep you long, and then you can go off and join your friends for the new year’s celebrations. Although it is a little early, isn’t it? I have some things to get done before britt’s birthday party tonight. I have to say, I’m a little surprised you’re attending that. She was a very good friend to me when I was a kid, so luckily, we’ve remained friends. Ah, good. Well, anyway, I just wanted to make sure that you’ll be available tomorrow afternoon. I thought I’d get the family together for a nice brunch — you know, usher in the new year. Forgive me, uncle, but under no circumstances will I be having brunch with my father. I have every intention of turning 2023 into a fresh start for myself, which means that once I move out of wyndemere, I will hopefully never speak to or lay eyes on my father again. Well, I tell you, when you called me from a jail cell in ireland — oh! Oh, listen, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you riding to rescue, interceding on my behalf. Oh. Well, of course. That was very brave of you. Oh, no. Bravery had nothing to do with it, believe me. Nobody’s more surprised than I was. The last thing I expected when I flew over there was to fall on my sword so anna devane could get away.

[ Laughs ] Well, you know, I think you’re pretty lucky that the wsb let you get away with just a fine. Yeah. Something fishy about that. In any case, for all the good it’s done me — from one prison to another.

[ Sighs ] Well, at least you’re not behind bars in this one. Yeah. You know, you didn’t have to come. Oh, come on. After everything you just did for me, you think I was gonna let you face our wayward brother alone? What do you think he wants — sister! And is this my brother I see before me? [ Laughs in disbelief ] Your father and nurse baldwin are both consenting adults. Everyone knows that she’s been struggling. She checked herself into shadybrook. I’m sure that she turned to him for comfort and support, and he went ahead and he used her trust to get her into bed. Oh, you don’t know what happened between them. It’s disgusting! And I hope that cameron’s mother comes to her senses and kicks him out of her life for good. You have to be realistic, spencer. There’s no way elizabeth can cut ties with nikolas now. Why not? Which plan? I have so many. Demetrius informed me that you barely touched your lunch, and you still haven’T. Worried about me? The baby needs nourishment. I just wasn’t hungry, okay? [ Door locks ] Anna, you didn’t tell me that your contact was the esteemed dr. Maddox. If I had known you’d be here, I might not have showed. Okay, so here’s the thing — uh, I have to clear my name, and we also want to bring down victor. So all of that is more important than any past conflicts. I need your help. I need yours. I’ve decidedto go on a little vacation. Where are you going? When are you leaving? Why don’t I have your itinerary? A whole bunch of places I will send you postcards from as soon as I get there. And to answer your remaining question, I am flying out tonight, right after the party. Why is this the first I’ve heard of this vacation? It was a spur of the moment idea. I got a good deal. So you think that somehow victor’s trying to frame laura with all of this? Victor has a lot of sway here in pentonville. It’s obvious from the way he was able to meet with spencer in the prison library. We also know that victor never gets his own hands dirty. One of his agents did the actual work to get spencer’s release. So… and this agent also works for you. I’m sorry to tell you, dear sister, that you have a mole in the mayor’s office. You mean along with the snake? I feel it’s my duty, as your brother, to warn you that your deputy mayor, eileen ashby, is working for victor. The research I was doing was for the wsb. I only later discovered it was corrupted by the cassadines. Specifically victor and helena. Yes, as well as your old nemesis, liesl obrecht. I’m more interested in your interactions with the cassadines. In particular, obviously, victor. I had to give the occasional progress report on our various dealings. So I had brian do a whole background check on all the josiahs in the tri-state area that matched around the same age. And unfortunately, there’s no evidence that any of them were part of the commune. So our best bet is to take their photographs and compare it with the one that we have of josiah. And see if any match. Yeah, I mean, that’s our best bet of finding this guy and seeing what he knows about willow’s birth. Mommy, are we going sledding? Not today, sweetie. But you promised. We will go sledding another day. Okay? It’s just, daddy and I have to go to the doctor right now. You’re always at the doctor. Hey, wiley, how’s this? Right, the christmas miracle baby everyone’s been buzzing about. Isn’t she spectacular? Do you know her name? Britta. Britta noelle. Oh, that’s quite a special name. Yeah, well… she’s named after a very special woman. “Join me for my first ever birthday party on new year’s eve.” Britt, you wanted to see me? Excuse me? I got a message to meet here. So, what’s up? I have no clue. I got the same message. I assumed it was from my co-chief of staff. If this is somebody’s idea of a joke — oh, good. You’re both here. Can we take care of a little piece of business? And what business is that?

[ Door closes ] Well, the business we’ve all chosen, dr. Westbourne — the business of saving lives. Brussels sprouts? That is so 2022. Maxie? What are you doing here? Oh, I’m meeting with britt to go over the menu and details about her big birthday party. What’s your excuse? Uh, actually, britt wants my opinion to make it a birthday bash this town will never forget.

[ Chuckles ] No offense, but I’m the professional party planner. And I’m a professional party animal, so, uh, move over. Hmm. Heather: Hello?! How long do you have to wait to see a doctor in this hospital?! I’m a very important pers– oh, my. If it isn’t detective dreamboat. You didn’t have to get all dressed up just to see me, you know. Oh, I didn’T. Oh, you were at that memorial, weren’t you? I read about that in the paper. That brave young officer killed in the line of duty. I do so wish that you’d let me help you find his killer. And then, you know, you could maybe help me in return.

[ Footsteps approaching ] Another mourner. Ooh, that’s a really nice dress, doc. Is that armani? Ugh. You let me know when I can take this one back where she belongs. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. No, detective, though, think about it. Seriously. I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine. Just to be clear, this is a court-appointed evaluation. Right. This is gonna help the judge determine whether you are sufficiently rehabbed so that you can return to custody at d’archam. You know, the only thing is my neck still really hurts, um, dr. Robinson? Yes. Oh. Are you by any chance related to that lovely young girl who was on trial earlier this year? That’s my daughter, yes. Please look right here. Pcpd. Did rory proud. But I’m surprised his — his family didn’t attend. Oh, well, commissioner ashford told me that she invited them personally, but they were just too upset to come. They’re having a private burial just for family, which I totally get, ’cause this is still really hard to believe that it’s happening. Good morning, trina, curtis, marshall. Trina, I just want to assure you that whoever took officer cabrera’s life will be made to pay the price. That I solemnly promise. This killer’s already claimed too many lives. Makes you wonder, when’s it gonna end? It ends when we find esme. Who’s we?

I just meant we, the people of this great city. Hello, laura, curtis. Hey, sam. Trina, how are you? I’m getting through it. Thanks for asking. You know, spencer, I think it’s very nice of you to be here to support your friend, but I just want to say to everyone it’s very important that we all stand back and let the pcpd do their jobs. Of course, grandmother. I’m a cassadine, not a cop. The last thing that I want to do is stick my neck out there and, well… spencer, it is best if you stay in your lane.

[ Cellphone rings ] Dante? Yeah. Where are you? Hey. I was just in with hannah webber. She’s dropping hints like she could give us some information on the hook.

But it’s gonna come

with a price tag. How much? I don’t think she’s talking about money. Got it. On my way. Robert, is dante okay? Oh, overworked, underpaid. Yeah, he’s fine. Does he have a lead, I hope? Well, that remains to be seen. But if there is one, you’ll be the first to know. No text from britt. Or did she text you? Nope. Hm. Wonder what’s keeping her. Well, I’ve already started preparing a wish list for the party. From swag for the guests to a signature cocktail. Don’t bother. I already designed a cocktail for britt. Bourbon, rice wine, and ginger. And what’s it called? The britch. What else? And what makes you the expert?

[ Chuckles ] She’s my best friend, as well as my drinking buddy. Okay, well, I’m family — mother to her nephew. I know britt’s likes and dislikes. I’m family, too. Chosen family. Congratulations. Oh, she’s not — oh, hey, it’s you. I heard what you did. I guess the saying is true. It really does take a village to bring a new life into this mixed-up world.

[ Monitor beeping ] Yeah, well, britt, you know, dr. Westbourne, she — she did all the heavy lifting. Honestly, I was just trying not to pass out. Really? Because the way I heard it, you pitched in until the paramedics could get through the snowstorm and deliver mother and child here to G.H. To be honest, I was scared to death. I mean, I-I’ve delivered a foal to a nervous filly before, but [Sighs] This was a whole new ballgame. To top it off, the — the pregnant woman, she was dressed as mary on christmas eve. So no pressure there.

[ Baby coos ] Why do you always do that? Do what? Someone tries to give you a compliment or pat you on the back, and your first response is that you don’t deserve it. Well, that’s easy. Because I don’T. Okay, so what we’re talking about here is a state-of-the-art diagnostic tool that’s been recently federally approved. And its ability to locate cancer cells and other potentially life-threatening illnesses is so cool. I-it’s remarkable. Sounds great, but I’m gonna beat britt to the punch and ask how much. Um, yeah, I’m not gonna lie. It’s — it’s pricy. But I think it would be a great investment for G.H. How much? Low six figures. You don’t have to say it. We can’t afford that. Um, yeah, you’re right. You know, we — we can’t — we can’t approve that big of a purchase. So why don’t we just recommend it to the board and pull the trigger? Wait, wait. What is happening? Normally, when I zig, you zag, that’s our deal. Now, all of a sudden — I zig, you zig, we zig together. Are we done here? No, britt, stop. You’re not going anywhere until you tell me what’s really going on. The only good thing about d’archam is we do get access to the media. And your daughter’s trial was a really big deal in the padded cells. You know, ’cause it was so salacious. College student taping her best friends doing the dirty and then sending the sex tape to the entire university? The inmates really ate that up. You know, ’cause it was so juicy. It must have been so hard for you, you know, as trina’s mother, to watch, right? I mean, of course, I knew right from the beginning she was totally innocent. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Open up. Say ahh. Ahh.

[ Speaks indistinctly ] Sorry. As someone who’s been falsely accused myself many times over the years, I always root for the underdog. And besides, I mean, it was obvious from the beginning she was totally set up. What was the name of that, um, other suspect again? That was esme prince. Right, esme prince, yeah. The girl that’s gone missing. So tell me, dr. Robinson, does your daughter ever talk about that esme?

This doesn’t make any sense. Always when it comes to spending, you’re squeezing every dime. And now suddenly you’re all about letting the money flow? This isn’t you, britt. So what gives? Britt, you want to tell her, or should I? Tell me what? Okay. N-n– you know, everyone thinks that terry is some great healer, and I’m just ebenezer scrooge in charge of the budget. Well, you know what? I delivered a miracle breech baby on christmas with the roads blocked by snow assisted by two doctors who are not ob-gyns, the quartermaine family, and their — their lame… stable bum. Okay. The conditions weren’t ideal, but I know you’re an experienced ob trained for anything, right? No, no, no amount of training prepared me for how I felt. Here at the hospital when you have a breech baby, we usually opt for a c-section. At the quartermaines’, I had to deliver the baby breech. Do you have any idea all the things that could have gone wrong? After I delivered that little girl and I put her in her mother’s arms, it was the first time ever I realized life is a miracle and it should never be taken for granted. What? Suddenly you’re agreeable. Then you start talking about miracles. Were you visited by three ghosts last night, showing you how your life might turn out? Okay, chosen family, if you know britt so well, tell me why this party is so important to her. I’m not sure. There are some things even drinking buddies don’t share. But britt did mention to me that she wanted to be remembered as more than the woman who wound up getting knocked into the metro court pool when cody parachuted into town. Remembered? Is she planning on leaving port charles? Nah, I think it has to do more with her birthday and the reminder she’s not getting any younger and she just wants to make the most of every second. Hmm. Well, I guess that is our job to make it happen. So, what are you thinking about for music? Show tunes? No. I meant should we have a deejay or a live band?

[ Sighs ] Okay. Deejay, for sure. You know, I actually know this guy from the foam party circuit who’s a genius and totally ripped and… wait. Do not even go there. That’s the theme. Foam party! You know, it’s too bad you didn’t turn out to be mine, because if you were, I would have talked some sense into you a long time ago. So you’re a fan of tough love or something? I don’t know a lot about your past, but it’s clear to me that you’ve been burned before and you’re letting that define who you are today. Because honestly, all love is tough, and a lot of people fail at it. The trick is to get back on that horse. Am I right? I’m assuming you’re in your formal dress for the memorial service for that cop who was killed in the line of duty. Is that what you told the others? Honor officer cabrera by getting back on the horse or squad car? That’s what he would have done? It’s a good speech. Wish I would’ve thought of it. For what it’s worth, even if it wasn’t me, I genuinely wish you had a good dad growing up. Every kid deserves that. If I’d had a good dad like you, I hope I would’ve listened to him. Might have spared me from doing something I’ll always regret. You know, that’s the second time you made a reference to a bad decision. Do you want to talk about it? Um, sorry to interrupt. A killer, I might add, that the pcpd has been clueless to track down so far. Doctor, do you feel that our friend here is ready to go back to d’archam? Without a doubt. I see no ill effects from the crash of the transfer van. I don’t see why she can’t be back in her cell by tonight. That is so what I wanted to hear. Oh, robert, come on. Wait. I’ll tell you what you want to know. Why do I feel there’s a “but” in there somewhere? Smart as a whip and handsome. Just like I remember. Come on. Just pull up a chair and we’ll see how we can help each other. Toda y’s ceremony was toughon everyone, but I know that it was especially tough on you, trina. Yeah, it was. But I keep telling myself that rory won’t be forgotten and his killer will be found. Mayor collins. Raymond mcavoy with the invader. Any thoughts on the hook killer claiming another victim? Officer cabrera represented everything that was good and fine in port charles. And as his good friend trina robinson just told me, rory will never be forgotten. Officer rory cabrera was in his rookie year… now is as good a time as any to put our plan into action. Unless you’re having second thoughts. Not one. If we have to make ourselves the targets to catch rory’s killer, then so be it. Esme’s gonna pay. Hey, thanks for helping me out. Of course. They let me paint. And it’s also where I got to know ryan chamberlain. What about ryan chamberlain? What is it about a man in uniform? Heather feels she can get ryan to open up. What can I say? [ Monitor beeping ] Dante, did you, uh — did you tell mac about the small little part I played in delivering that little bundle of dynamite? Yeah, I did, man. I thought you deserved a gold star. And not just for delivering a baby, but you got — you got me and sam face to face the other day. Well, you were grieving a fellow cop who died doing his job. Yeah, but I don’t — I don’t think I knew how much I needed sam to pull me through that. And you stepped in. So thank you. Hey, that’s what friends are for. Don’t worry, terry. I’m not gonna order a christmas turkey and say “god bless us, everyone.” Tiny tim. He lived, remember? Yeah. It’s a sweet story. That’s all it is. A story. We started out on the wrong foot, but knowing we had to make it work allowed me to see britt’s strengths. Her drive, her dedication, her refusal to give up on a patient. I’ve grown fond of her myself. Yeah, I mean, knowing britt has made me a better doctor, better person. I know what you mean. Seriously? A foam party? You do know that scott baldwin is gonna be there, right? Do you really want to see him drenched? He could slip and break a hip. Well, for britt’s very first birthday party, we ain’t gonna go with simple and tasteful, all right? Britt westbourne is all about glitter and go-go boots, disco and drama. The girl wants to party like it’s 1977 when the bee gees’ number-one song was “stayin’ alive.” Now you want a disco-themed party? What are you gonna wear? A skintight white suit and some platform heels? You had me at skintight. Now, maybe you were just joking, but that actually sounds like a lot of fun and super hot. I mean, you would look fantastic in glitter eye shadow and farrah fawcett hair. That will never happen. Okay, okay, both of you. Time-out. This party is supposed to bring people together, not launch a twitter war. I asked you both to help me plan this. So it’s time to forget your differences and work side by side as friends.

[ Scoffs ] Friends? Who? Us? We are definitely not friends. Okay, but you’re both my friends, so can’t you just fake it for my sake? Look, britt, brad and I, we’ve been trying, but we do not have the same taste. In anything. Well, get over it. You two have to get along. Don’t you see that? No, not in the slightest. [ Sighs ] You know something we don’t? Look, ryan may only be able to communicate by blinking, but he can help you find esme prince. The gossip around spring ridge was they had some chemistry when she was an intern there. You know, you might call them two psycho peas in a pod. But, hey, look, if you don’t want to stop esme prince before she murders another cop, I mean like she did that poor officer — I don’t want to hear you say rory cabrera’s name. Do you understand me? Easy, mac. I respect the thin blue line. But if you want to find his killer… I’m your best hope. And I think you know that. What makes you think spencer and I are up to something? Well…I saw you step aside together for a bit. 10 seconds later, you were posing for pictures with the mayor. We just wanted to hear what my grandmother was saying about rory. Since when are your cousin and trina on speaking terms? I don’t know. I guess you would have to ask them. Trina just lost someone she cares about. She’s vulnerable. I’d hate to think your cousin would take advantage. No. Spencer has been through a lot of loss. He knows what it means to grieve. I don’t think he would ever take advantage of trina. Yeah, well, his track record says otherwise. Hey, look, I — I get it. I’m sure when you look at spencer, you see a rich and spoiled kid who you can’t sympathize with. But think about what he did. He went on the stand for trina, gave her an alibi, and even got himself sent to pentonville for his trouble. Yeah, he did the right thing on that occasion. Give him a chance. He’ll do the right thing now. Spencer. May I have a word with you? I know you’re hurting, trina, and I know your friends mean a lot to you, but might I recommend that you stick with joss and cam and remind yourself how spencer has treated you since he’s come back to town? I haven’t forgotten. Don’t you forget either. Forget what? Boundaries. Remember? I guess I can’t help myself. It’s because I — I know. I love you, too. And I’m grateful that you care. But I know what I have to do. I hope so. Hey, son, if you want to join portia, I’ll see to it that trina gets home safely. Does that fit with your boundaries? It does. Tell mom I love her. Will do. But you’re not my grandfather. I’ll be your step-grandfather. Look, trina, just remember, whatever else he is, that boy is still a cassadine. Be careful. Don’t worry. I will be. I’ve learned my lesson about spencer. You must have lost what little is left of your marbles if you think we’re going to cut a deal with you. Wait, wait, wait, now. Let’s not be hasty, little brother. I mean, uh, she’s right about one thing — w-we’re short on new leads. So… if ryan came to care about esme, why would he want to give her up? What’s your plan b? You tossed ryan’s room at spring ridge and came up empty. Now all you’ve got is a little earring that links one of ryan’s earliest victims with the murder of officer cabrera. So what? So I can take esme’s place in ryan’s world, become his nanny, his buddy. Whatever he needs. I’ll work him hard and fast, and I promise you I’ll get him to squeal for me. And when he does, I pass the information on to you. You can track down esme prince and end this nightmare. So, boys, we have a deal or don’t we? Wish I’d been a better friend to britt. I was less than up-front with her from the start. About what? Not to get into the gory details, but I-I knew she might be in possession of something that rightly belonged to me.

[ Inhales deeply ] I had my eye on the prize, so to speak. And you used her to get to that prize? You put it that way, I sound like a real horse’s ass. No, you sound like that kid with a chip on his shoulder that I knew back at camp.

[ Sighs ]

[ Baby crying ] Our lives sure have gone in different directions, though, huh? I mean, you’re a police detective in a healthy relationship with sam, a bunch of kids between you. I’m still chasing after shiny objects instead of what really matters. Like a little baby britta noelle. Y-you know, for a minute there on christmas day, britt and I put our egos and agendas aside, focused on something that was higher and better than both of us. And to be honest, we made a damn good team, too. Well, hey, I mean, you did it once. What’s to say you can’t do it again? Maybe you and britt have a chance. You might even go into 2023 on a high note. I get it. The two of you may never become friends. But one day, you’ll look back on my party and I hope you’ll remember how much it meant to me that you were both there. That the two of you helped me make it happen. And if you can work together to create one magical night, then maybe you can look out for each other when I’m not around. Why? Where are you going? Yeah, you going somewhere?

[ Sighs ] I’m just saying things change. People change. Like you and cody. Y-you guys can still patch things up.
