Tripp: What the hell is that supposed to mean?

Johnny: You know what it means. Your girlfriend here wants my wife all to herself.

Allie: What are you talking about?

Johnny: What do you think I’m talking about? You’re still in love with chanel, allie.

[Dramatic music]

Brady: Thank you for getting the charges dropped.

Belle: Well, don’t thank me. They shouldn’t have been filed in the first place.

Brady: Yeah. Well, they were, and I spent christmas in a jail cell. So thank you.

Belle: Well, then you should also thank chloe. She’s the one who got victor and kate to drop the declaration of philip’s death.

Brady: Yeah. It’s the first time, I think, chloe has ever been successful changing either one of their minds.

Belle: Yeah. And without that declaration, the da really didn’t have a case. Everything was circumstantial.

Brady: Yeah.

Belle: So you’re in the clear.

Brady: I’m in the clear. It’s all I wanted for christmas this year was to get out of jail. It’s a little christmas miracle I guess.

Belle: Let’s hope for another one.

[Phone ringing]

Brady: Marlena?

Belle: Yeah. Now that she’s been caught, dad is gonna try an exorcism.

Brady: And you’ve had all this on your mind, and yet you’re still down here for my sake. Come here. I’m sorry, belle. I’m sorry.

Belle: Well, at least here I can do something.

Brady: Yeah.

Belle: I’m really scared, brady.

John: Oh, thank god you’re here, kid. Please come in.

Eric: As soon as we hung up last night, I booked my flight. How’s mom?

John: I honestly don’t know. ‘Cause we’re not dealing with your mom, we’re dealing– we’re dealing with “it.”

Eric: Are you alone?

John: Lucas and sami are here. They’re in there with her now. Hopefully… holding the devil at bay.

Sami: What is my mom talking about? Have you been lying to me?

Lucas: It’s not your mom, it’s the devil, and he’s trying to stir up trouble.

Demon marlena: Yeah. Well, that’s true ’cause that’s what I do. But the truth is you are keeping a secret from her, and we both know it. For starters, I ow what you did. See, people think of you as the boring one, but I know what a little bad boy you are.

Lucas: Yeah, I’m so boring that your mind games won’t work on me.

Demon marlena: Really? You see, I know that you’re the one that kidnapped sami and held her captive. That’s not very boring. So she’s going to find out one way or the other. Do you want to tell her? Or should I tell her?

[Chilling music]

[Soft orchestration]

Allie: That is ridiculous.

Johnny: Is it?

Allie: Yes, okay? I am in love with tripp.

Johnny: Then why are you so against me marrying chanel?

Allie: Because I know you, and I know your history. She’s my best friend. I don’t want to see her get hurt.

Chanel: Except I’m not your best friend anymore.

Allie: What?

Chanel: I’m your sister-in-law. And I was really hoping that you would be happy for me. For us. Do you think you can do that?

[Dramatic music]

Sami: Lucas, just tell me. It can’t be that bad.

Demon marlena: I wouldn’t count on that.

Sami: You shut your mouth, or you’re going to get a face full of holy water.

Demon marlena: Ungrateful sow!

Sami: [Sighs] Lucas, please. Just tell me whatever it is.

Lucas: You want the truth? The–the truth is– is that I’ve been lying to you.

Demon marlena: Good start. Come on, now. The truth will set you free.

Sami: Ignore her.

Lucas: I’ve been lying to you– I’ve been lying to you about my feelings for you. You see, I– I love you so much.

Sami: Yeah. Of course you do.

Demon marlena: “Of course you do”?

[Laughs] What hubris!

Sami: Lucas, you’re not lying about that. You and I have talked about it. I know.

Lucas: Sami, there’s something more. There’s something you don’t know.

Demon marlena: Here we go.

[Tense music]

Eric: I’m so sorry you’re having to go through this for a second time.

John: Ah, don’t worry about me. We just have to focus on casting this demon out so we can get your mother back to us.

Eric: Is there any luck so far?

John: I’ve read scripture on casting out the devil, but he has such a strong hold on her. And he doesn’t– he doesn’t fight fair. He doesn’t come right at you. He surrounds you.

Eric: John, you must be exhausted.

John: I can’t afford to be, eric. I just needed to take a moment here just to try to recharge a little bit.

Eric: Well, you have backup now. And I happen to be well-suited for the job.

[Dramatic music]

Allie: I wish I could be happy for you, chanel, but you’ve made this mistake before–xander?

Johnny: You’re comparing me to xander now?

Allie: Well, there are some very striking resemblances.

Tripp: Allie–

Chanel: Okay, horton, listen to me. Johnny and I are in love. He’s been there for me like no guy ever has, and we are in this for the long haul.

Allie: Dupree, I’m sorry, but you’re wrong, okay? He’s gonna break your heart sooner or later. It’s just a matter of time.

[Dramatic music]

Kayla: I still can’t believe that tripp was the one that was in that hospital bed and not jan. I mean, thank god he’s all right.

Steve: Thank god. Well, shawn is taking jan back to statesville where she belongs. So things are looking up.

Kayla: Well, not quite. We still have to get the devil out of marlena.

Steve: John said he’s gonna try an exorcism today.

Kayla: Is there anything we can do to help?

Steve: I guess all we can do is pray and have faith that john and family can get marlena back.

[Dramatic music]

John: You know, when you told me last night you went back to the priesthood, it just– it just seemed to me that god must’ve had a hand in this, that he was giving us just what we need to get your mother back just when we need it.

Eric: I agree. It was god’s will.

John: So why now?

Eric: Well, when everything was blowing up with nicole, there was something– something she said that really hit home. She said when I decided to take the collar off a few years ago, it never really changed who I was. So when I went back to the congo, I inquired to the church. I just didn’t want to say anything till it was a done deal.

John: Well, your timing couldn’t be better because you have the strongest faith of any man I’ve ever known. And, by god, son, you’re gonna need it.

Lucas: What you don’t know is how much I love you.

Demon marlena: How deep is the ocean? How high is the sky?

[Sizzling] Ow! Oh, you little brat!

Sami: Okay. Lucas, you have to do this faster, okay? What? What is it?

Demon marlena: Oh. Look what the cat dragged in.

Eric: Sami.

Sami: You’re a priest again?

Eric: Yeah. Maybe you heard nicole and I broke up.

Sami: You–eric, I’m so sorry.

Eric: Not now. We have more important things to do. It is written that, “you should not put the lord, our god, to the test.”

Demon marlena: And are you my lord? Are you my god?

Eric: Let’s just say I work for him.

Demon marlena: You know, I’m kind of surprised. I mean, I thought you were busy sharing your wondrous gifts with strangers in a strange land and to hell with your own family.

Eric: Actually, it’s going to be to hell with you.

Demon marlena: Cozy as it is down there, my work here is not finished yet.

Eric: You’re finished. My mother is coming back to us.

Demon marlena: I’m afraid it’s too late for that.

Eric: You’re afraid I’m right. You’re outflanked. She’s not given up. She’s in there, but she is fighting you with all she’s got. My boss and I are going to make damn sure she wins.

Johnny: You know, I am sick and tired of you constantly trashing me. I’m your twin. You’re supposed to be on my side no matter what.

Allie: Okay. Well, I’m sorry that us sharing a womb for nine months doesn’t give you a free pass, johnny!

Allie: Chanel, it’s not you that I’m mad at.

Chanel: This is christmas morning, and this isn’t very merry. Come on, johnny.

[Emotional music]

Allie: God. My brother is such a jerk.

Tripp: Maybe. Was he right?

Eric: I think it’s best if I do this alone.

Demon marlena: Yeah, right. Right. Those two aren’t exactly the god squad, are they?

Lucas: Come on, let’s go.

Demon marlena: Hey, lucas, remember–remember that a relationship built on lies is just like a house of cards. Remember I–

Sami: Get our mom back for us.

Eric: I’m gonna try my best. I think you should go too.

John: You’re sure that I can’t help?

Eric: You can pray. For now, I need to do this alone.

Demon marlena: You’re gonna do this alone, huh? Isn’t that a little arrogant?

Eric: I’m not doing this alone. “The lord god is in our midst. And he is mighty to save.”

Demon marlena: You arrogant little man. You really think all that’s gonna help you? Let me warn you, if you try to challenge my power, you will die.

[Chilling music]

Sami: I hope eric knows what he’s doing, what he’s up against.

John: Well, I’m praying that he’ll be all right. If he needs our help, he’ll let us know.

Belle: Look who I found!

John: Oh!

Sami: Brady!

John: Hey, kid.

John: You’re out? You’re free?

Brady: I’m out. All the charges are dropped. So–

John: Nice.

Brady: Lucas, um, look, I don’t–I don’t know what happened, but I didn’t do anything to hurt philip, I swear to you.

Brady: Thank you ’cause it’s the truth. How’s marlena?

John: Eric’s here. He’s with her right now.

Brady: He’s alone?

John: Well, there’s–there’s something you don’t know. Eric went back to the priesthood. So, no, he’s– he’s not facing her alone.

[Dramatic music]

Eric: In the name of the father, and of the son, and the holy spirit, amen.

[Chilling music]

Demon marlena: Tell me something, handsome, is that a halloween costume? I thought they defrocked you years ago.

Eric: I’ve been reinstated.

Demon marlena: Oh. Well, I guess it’s all right for the church to forgive you, but what about all of those poor parishioners who had to sit through that video of you fornicating with that ridiculous foul woman? What’s her name? Oh, yeah, kristen.

Eric: For something to be a mortal sin, it needs to be committed with knowledge and full awareness. Kristen had drugged me.

Demon marlena: Oh, I get it. So if you had been drugged, that lets you off the hook, huh?

Eric: Even then, the cardinal gave me permission to return to the priesthood. I turned him down because I felt that I had lost my calling.

Demon marlena: Hmm. Now you’ve found it again?

Eric: That’s right.

Demon marlena: Well, that’s funny. Because based on that video, I would have thought that your true calling was the adult entertainment business.

Eric: You can throw that video in my face all you want. I’ve put it behind me.

Demon marlena: Oh, have you?

Eric: Yes.

[Dramatic music]

Tripp: Come on, allie, you have to admit that your reaction was a little more emphatic than that.

Belle: Eric went back to the priesthood?

Brady: That wasn’t long. I mean, he just got his divorce finalized a little while ago.

Belle: Did he say why he did that?

Sami: If anyone could make a man swear off women, it’d be nicole.

John: I think it was more a matter of faith.

Belle: Well, whatever the reason, it’s really good for mom. Is he doing the exorcism?

John: He just started, yeah.

Brady: Dad, I don’t know. Priest or no priest, I don’t think he should be in there alone fighting the devil.

[Dramatic music]

Eric: How did you–

Evil kristen: Father, you of all people must know that the devil can take many forms.

Eric: No. You’re just an illusion.

Evil kristen: I don’t think so.

Eric: You’re just–

Evil kristen: I’m a lot more real than you think. Why don’t you come a little closer and see for yourself?

Eric: I’m not interested.

Evil kristen: You were hesitant the first time too. But eventually, you came around.

Eric: No. I was drugged.

Evil kristen: So maybe that’s why things are a little hazy. Perhaps this will jog your memory.

[Bright tone]

[Dramatic music]

Eric: I wasn’t myself.

Evil kristen: I think that you were the real you, without all of your priestly inhibitions.

Eric: No.

Evil kristen: Just give in, eric. No one will ever know.

Brady: Eric, don’t listen to her. It’s just another one of the devil’s tricks.

Evil kristen: Oh, brady, you don’t have to be jealous. I’ll always have a special place in my heart for you. You want me to prove it?

Brady: That’s a hard pass.

Eric: You’re right. He’s absolutely right.

Brady: Eric, what are you talking about? We’re not giving up on this.

Eric: No, no, we’re not giving up. We’re just gonna take a whole new approach to this.

Sami: So you found shawn in bed with jan spears?

Belle: Well, the devil made her look exactly like me.

Sami: Right. We should have used that excuse with ej.

Belle: It’s not funny, sami.

Sami: No, sorry. I’m just–

Belle: Jan wouldn’t even be back in our lives if it wasn’t for you. I mean, you broke her out of shady pines while she was still dangerously nuts.

Sami: Okay, if you wanna blame someone, blame nicole. She’s the one who was trying to steal my grandchild away from me.

John: You stop it.

Belle: Of course. Right.

Sami: Okay–

[Dramatic music]

[Phone rings]

Demon marlena: Oh, marlena. Looks like your loved ones are circling the wagons. And the fight for your soul is about to begin.

[Chilling music]

Tripp: Oh, nothing, nothing. Every christmas the hospital throws a party for the kids that can’t go home. And since johnny is otherwise engaged, you want to come with us?

Tripp: All right. My dad is actually dressed up as santa claus, so it adds a little bit to the fun, right?

Chanel: Definitely. And I’m sure he’ll pull it off great.

Johnny: Looks like we both got the same call.

Allie: Look, about before–

Johnny: Look, look, it’s– today’s about grandma, okay? Everything else can wait.

[Knocking on door]

Sami: Oh, hey!

Sami: I’m so glad to see you! Oh, look at you. You’re both here. Oh, I’m so glad that we could be together. I wish it was under different circumstances. Johnny, would you go on in? I want to talk to allie for a second.

Johnny: Sure.

Sami: Hey, um, I know this isn’t the right time for this conversation, but, well, chanel’s mother told me something that I wanted to talk to you– I wanted to verify with you.

Allie: You’re right, mom. This is not the time. Not the time at all.

Sami: Oh. Right. No, of course. Let’s go in.

Allie: Uncle eric? I didn’t know you were back.

Eric: Yeah. Well, it’s–I’ll explain later. But right now, we need to focus on saving your grandmother.

Lucas: You know what? I think I’m gonna go. This is definitely a family situation. I’ll be praying for everybody. Call me later, okay? See you soon.

Sami: Thank you, lucas. Johnny, listen, I know things didn’t end well–

Johnny: Look, like i told allie, today’s about grandma.

Sami: Thank you.

Johnny: So what are we doing?

Eric: An exorcism. I want you to all know upfront that this is gonna be very emotionally and physically exhausting… and very dangerous. If there’s anybody who doesn’t want to be a part of this, please, let me know now. There’s nothing wrong with saying no.

Allie: On the way over here, I was just thinking about everything she’s done for us. I’m not leaving.

Johnny: If she can take it, so can I.

Eric: I think it’s a good sign that we’re doing this on christmas day, the day that god sent down his only begotten son to save us. And I know that allie is not alone when she’s thinking of all the good things that mom has done for us. So now it’s time for us all to come together in her hour of need.

[Dramatic music]

Demon marlena: Well, well, well, the gang’s all here. Even the grandchildren. I suspect johnny is here to do some research for his movie.

Johnny: I’m here for my grandmother.

John: Johnny, don’t engage her.

Eric: Let’s begin.

Sami: [Mouthing words]

[Mouthing words]

Eric: Let’s join hands as we say the lord’s prayer.

All: Our father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread…

[Eerie tone] And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen!

Demon marlena: You can pray all you like, but nothing is going to bring back your precious marlena. She’s mine! She’s mine for eternity!

[Cackles]

[Laughing deepens]

[Chilling music]

Demon marlena: [Screaming]

[Chilling music]

Sami: [Pants]

Demon marlena: [Cackling] Is that all you’ve got?

Belle: Oh my god, this is so much worse than I thought it was gonna be.

Demon marlena: Oh, belle, were you about to throw in the towel? I figured you’d be the first to fold. And, remember, you were the first to give up on your mother when she was in a coma. How’s your marriage? How many times have you betrayed your husband? You’re nothing but a cheap slut!

Sami: Don’t talk to her like that!

Demon marlena: Oh, my, it’s the professional slut defending the junior slut.

Eric: Don’t engage! Everyone, focus! Talk to her–talk to marlena. Speak to her. Pray to god that she will hear you.

Eli: Yeah, it sure does. You know, grandma, looking at this beautiful tree, you would never guess that the devil tried to burn it down last night.

Julie: It’s going to take more than demon possession to stop this family or your grandmother from having the horton christmas tree. That reminds me I have something for you.

Eli: Okay.

Julie: Yeah. You hear that? Well, actually, it’s for you and lani. But actually, it’s for my precious grandbabies. Yes, it is. But you are a little small to undo the box. And so daddy is going to do the honors.

Eli: Maybe we should wait until lani’s done helping doug in the kitchen.

Julie: No. I’m too impatient. I want to see it now. Open it, darling.

Eli: Okay. All right. Grandma, thank you. Look. Guys, these are for you from your great-grandmother and you’ll put them on that tree there every year.

Julie: Can we hang out together? Just you and me right now? It would give me something so lovely to remember.

Ej: I was surprised when they told me I had a visitor. I thought you’d be with holly.

Nicole: Well, maggie and victor asked if they could have her. So I just dropped her off. Did you get any sleep at all?

Ej: Not much. The accommodations aren’t up to my usual standards. Why are you staring at me?

Johnny: Yeah. I mean, I don’t know. The cops must think so or they wouldn’t have arrested him.

Chanel: Wow. Wow. Okay. So, well, what do you think? You know your dad better than the cops do.

Johnny: Nothing my dad does really surprises me, you know. He is a dimera.

Chanel: So are you.

Johnny: Starting to have second thoughts about marrying into my crazy family?

Chanel: No way. I’m in for the long haul.

Johnny: Hey. What do you say that we forget about my parents’ latest drama and go see allie. It’s time we gave her the good news.

Nicole: Well, I heard the cops caught one of the guys who was guarding sami. Why would he say that he worked for you?

Ej: Because he’s lying. Someone is setting me up.

Lucas: Your mom set fire to the horton christmas angel?

Sami: Yeah. Right out of currier and ives, isn’t it?

Lucas: That angel’s been in my family for generations. Doug and julie must be freaked out. You know, they’re scared of your mom right now.

Sami: Well, they have every reason to be. She’s pretty scary. John keeps reminding me that it’s the thing in her that did this, not her. But it looks a lot like her.

Lucas: I can’t–i just can’T.

Sami: It’s happened before, you know. I mean, as it turns out, my mother is the devil’s favorite place to go for the holidays.

Lucas: Well, I just didn’t think it would happen again is what I’m saying.

Sami: Me neither. I just hope john knows what he’s doing. I hope that we get my mom back before it’s too late.

Chanel: No. No, it’s not that. It’s just I’m worried about how she’ll take it.

Ej: I’ve made more than a few enemies here in salem. Victor kiriakis blames me for titan’s financial problems. Melinda trask hates me for making her look like a fool in court. And then there’s–

Nicole: Okay. You might want to narrow down your list to one possible name that you can give the police.

Ej: As a matter of fact, I already have.

Sami: John’s been in there for a long time. I hope she hasn’t turned him into a goat or something.

Lucas: Turn him into a goat. You’re wearing out the rug. Come on, sit down for a second. Take a look. Well, so I don’t–I don’t know–I don’t know a lot about exorcisms, but I’ve seen a couple movies about them, you know, and i just know it takes a while. Right?

Sami: Exorcism. You know, my–my mother should be enjoying her christmas with her children and her grandchildren.

Lucas: I know.

Sami: Instead she’s in there battling for her immortal soul. If anyone deserves to be possessed by the devil, it’s me.

Lucas: Would we be able to tell the difference if you were possessed by the devil? Would we be able to decipher that? I’m just kidding. Trying to keep your mind off things. Okay. I’m try and change the subject, that’s all. I know that you’re very scared for your mom right now, but we should probably talk about this ej situation, right?

Sami: No. Lucas, I don’t want to talk about that.

Lucas: What do you mean you don’t want to talk about your very own husband kidnaps you, hold you against your will? Please tell me you’re done with that guy. People everywhere living with

Johnny: I still can’t believe that dad would do that to mom.

Allie: And then he found out that she was cheating on him.

Abe: Johnny and chanel, are they really married?

Paulina: Oh yeah. I’m trying to make the best of it, but–

Abe: But you’ve heard a lot of far-out stories about the dimera family.

Paulina: Yes, I have. Although I know your–your late wife. She was a dimera. So–so that makes your son theo half-dimera, so–well, there’s obviously some goodness in that gene pool.

Abe: Definitely. Besides, every family has its problems.

Ej: And there’s chad. He wants dimera enterprises all to himself. He makes no secret of that. Jake knows that I organized the campaign to oust him as ceo. Gabi hates me for that and for throwing her out of my house–

Nicole: Okay. I thought you said you narrowed your list down to one name.

Ej: But out of all those people, I don’t think anyone hates me more than rafe does.

Nicole: [Scoffs] Rafe? Oh, don’t be ridiculous. First of all, he would never do that to sami. And second of all, he wouldn’t break the law just to get to you.

Ej: He’s always been jealous of me and it’s even worse now that I’m with you.

Nicole: Rafe?

Ej: Mm-hmm.

Nicole: Jealous? That is patently absurd.

Ej: I disagree.

Nicole: Okay. Well then since we’re sitting here talking about people who hate your guts, what about lucas horton?

Sami: Look, I’ve heard chapter and verse about how you hate ej. I don’t need to hear it anymore. Listen, I have to be here for my mother right now.

Lucas: I know. I get that. Okay. But he–he did kidnap you for weeks and weeks. He held you there and he tortured you. Why would you go back to a guy who tortured you? How’s that going to help your mother?

Sami: We don’t know that it was ej.

Lucas: Yes, we do. Why would the salem pd arrest him? They wouldn’t arrest him for nothing. And please tell me you’re not still fighting the divorce.

Sami: Well, ej doesn’t want a divorce now.

Lucas: He what?

Sami: Yeah, he was just telling me that he–mom.

John: Very impressive. Even shackled to the bed, you have telekinetic powers, but I have god, our father, the son and the holy spirit on my side, not to mention marlena’s love. Shall we begin? Johnny: Samantha, it’s not her. It’s the devil just playing with you. It’s not her.

Demon marlena: Sami. Sami, help me.

Sami: John, I can’t stand to see her scream.

Demon marlena: Not so fast, mr. Horton. You and I have to chat alone for a moment.

Ej: You actually think lucas horton has the brains and the nerve to set me up?

Nicole: No. All I said was lucas hates you, not as much as rafe does. I don’t think either one of them would do this to you. I think you’re just grasping at straws.

Ej: I don’t know about that. I didn’t put lucas on my list of suspects because he always seems so ineffectual. But maybe it was him.

Lani: Let’s go.

Paulina: Can I at least wish you a merry christmas?

Eli: Merry christmas, paulina.

Lani: The kids have probably worn doug and julie out by now. We should go pick them up and I still have a lot to do for our christmas dinner. Dad, we’ll–we’ll see you later tonight, right?

Abe: Of course you will.

Paulina: Well, I thought you want to know you have a new brother-in-law.

Allie: So you guys are really married?

Johnny: Yes, we are. Yes.

Allie: When did that happen?

Johnny: While we were in rome. Do you remember that church that mom used to take us to? That little church.

Allie: What do you know about real? Our giovanni here is always the leading man in his own movie. The plot is always the same. It’s just the girl who changes. Okay. They go for romantic strolls by the tiber, and then they walk over to the piazza navona. That’s your regular route. Wasn’t it? And then he takes her to the one trattoria where they know him and he orders for her in italian. Sound familiar? I guess you needed a bigger ending for your movie this time ’cause you married the girl before you broke up with her.

Johnny: Are you done yet? Or you still–okay.

Allie: No, I’m not done. The movie’s over. Okay? You’re back in salem now. What happens when those magic feeling goes away and you’re stuck with a guy who’s bored of being a husband?

Sami: [Crying]

John: Hey. Here you go, kid.

John: Look, I know how hard this is on you and I know how much you hate what I’m doing because I hate it too. But a successful exorcism is the only chance I have of bringing your mother back to you.

Sami: I understand. And I brought grandma carolyn’s rosary, ’cause I wanted to help, but it just so hard. It’s really hard to see her like that.

John: That wasn’t her. That was satan preying on your love of her. He wants you to stop me.

Sami: I just–I love her, you know, that right, john? I love her so much, even though I don’t always show her how much I love her–

John: She understands that. Sweetie, wherever she is right now, she can feel that love.

Sami: Wherever she is?

John: You know–whether you realize it or not, what you’re doing right now is helping her. It’s making her stronger and I need you with me on this right now. I need you to be 100% all in.

Sami: Okay.

John: It says in the bible that, ‘a house divided against itself shall not stand.’ And we’re up against the forces of darkness here, so we–we have to be a united front. All in, samantha.

Nicole: Okay. Just slow down a little bit here. Okay? I don’t really see lucas as the kidnapping type.

Ej: Why not? He pretended to have a brain tumor so he could get close to chloe lane.

Nicole: No, no, no. Sami put him up to that. Because your lovely sister said that she would tell the whole world about sami and lucas if sami didn’t get chloe away from brady.

Ej: What about the fact that lucas almost let samantha receive the death penalty for a murder he committed? He didn’t need prodding from kristen then.

Nicole: Well, lucas finally manned up and stopped the execution.

Ej: With seconds to spare. I’m sorry, but lucas horton is more malicious than you give him credit for.

Lucas: There’s nothing I can do for you. So stop playing games and open up the door.

Demon marlena: No. We’ve got a few things to get settled first.

Lucas: You and me? What do we have to talk about?

Demon marlena: For starters, I know what you did. People think of you as the boring one, but I know what a little bad boy you are.

Lucas: Yeah, I’m so boring that your mind games aren’t going to work on me.

Demon marlena: Really? You see, I know that you’re the one that kidnapped sami and held her captive. That’s not very boring.

Lucas: You don’t know anything about me.

Demon marlena: I know you’re an imbecile and I know that I gave you the idea.

Lucas: Wait a minute. You made me kidnap sami?

Demon marlena: “The devil made me do it”? That’s going to be your defense? I’m sorry to disappoint, but I didn’t make you do it.

Lucas: What the hell did you do?

Demon marlena: Well, I just planted the idea in that little booze soaked brain of yours. The rest of it, you did yourself voluntarily because you couldn’t resist the temptation.

Lucas: Oh, my god.

Demon marlena: Oh, and lucas, if you don’t get me out of here, I’m gonna tell sami everything. Are you tired of clean clothes that just don’t smell clean?

Lani: So chanel ran off to italy and married herself a dimera. That girl knows how to keep life interesting.

Paulina: Mm-hmm. You can say that again.

Lani: Thank you for telling me about chanel and johnny. I will send them a wedding present.

Paulina: Speaking of presents–

Lani: I thought I made it clear to you that I don’t want anything from you.

Paulina: Even if they for my grandchildren?

Nicole: When am I going to learn to keep my big mouth shut? You cannot pin this on lucas

Ej: If it isn’t him, then who is it? Samantha didn’t kidnap herself.

Nicole: Actually, I wouldn’t put it past her.

Ej: Don’t be ridiculous.

Nicole: Well, in case you’re interested, you still haven’t convinced me that it wasn’t you.

Sami: I am with you, john. You have my attention now. I am with you 100% all in.

John: We can do this. You know, we’re not gonna stop until we save her and we’re going to need all the support we can get. We’re going to need it from our kids. We’re going to need it from our friends and especially from the man upstairs.

Sami: Yeah, especially from him. And speaking of our kids, you know what, lucas, maybe you could call–lucas. Where is he?

John: I don’t know. He was right behind us when we left the bedroom.

Demon marlena: All you have to do is untie me and I can make sure that your–your precious sami never knows you kidnapped her. I can do things like that, you know.

Lucas: If I set you free, that means you can do whatever you want to marlena. Sami will hate me. Everybody would.

Demon marlena: Well, everybody’s going to hate you anyway, once they find out that you kidnapped sami and you–you framed– you framed ej.

[Laughs] You’re just– you’re screwed no matter what you do. So why don’t we do this my way? You know what? I’ll make it easy for you. Just–just untie one hand. I’ll do the rest.

[Unsettling music]

Sami: Lucas! Lucas! Lucas, what the hell are you doing? How did olay top expensive creams?

Chanel: I need to talk to allie alone.

Tripp: You want to go take a peek at your nephew?

Johnny: Sure, I do.

Allie: You didn’t hear a word I said, did you?

Chanel: Like I don’t know that johnny’s had girls before me?

Allie: A lot of them.

Chanel: I’m telling you, this is different. Yeah, it was a spur of the moment thing, but it was real.

Allie: Okay. Well, johnny is not the only one who does think spur of the moment, chanel. All right. You remember your what a day and a half as mrs. Xander cook? What was that, five minutes after you got to salem?

Chanel: That was a scam. This is love.

Allie: Are you sure about that?

Johnny: Damn it, allie. I love chanel. Chanel loves me. We got married. Why can’t you just accept that?

Allie: Who cares if I accept it? It’s your life.

Johnny: You’re my sister. I thought you might like to see me happy, but I guess not.

Allie: I do want to see you happy, but I’d also like to see chanel happy and I feel like you’re going to make her miserable.

Johnny: I just–you know what? I had a thought. I’m starting to think that maybe this isn’t about me at all. Maybe you’re just jealous.

Tripp: What the hell is that supposed to mean?

Johnny: What do you think it means? It means your girlfriend wants my wife all to herself.

Paulina: It’s kaleidoscopes of pictures of your–your big mama and paw-paw when they were first married. And me and tammy as little girls. You and chanel when you were babies. The whole family.

Abe: That is very thoughtful of you, paulina.

Paulina: Me and tammy had them when we were little and I made one for chanel too.

Lani: My mom made me one. I used to stare at that thing for hours.

Paulina: Sort of a price family tradition.

Lani: I’m sorry. I-I can’t accept that.

Eli: Come on, baby. It’s christmas.

Paulina: Please. Please let me do this for my grandbabies.

Nicole: You and I have gone out to dinner several times and we’ve had sex once. I still don’t know who this new ej is and what he’s capable of.

Ej: I told samantha our marriage was over and that I wanted a divorce. She was sobbing–sobbing when I ordered her out of my house. Do you think I’m such a sadist that I also had her kidnapped?

Nicole: Well, when you put it like that, no. No, I don’t think you’re a sadist.

Ej: So you believe me now.

Nicole: Yes.

Ej: Thank you.

Nicole: Don’t thank me yet. We still have to figure out who kidnapped sami or you could be ringing in the new year at statesville.

Lucas: I was on my way out and she loosened the restraints. I didn’t want her to break loose.

Sami: Really? Oh no.

Demon marlena: He’s lying about everything.

John: Heavenly father. I know it says that you never put more on us than we can bear. But this is a lot. I don’t know if I have the strength to see this through, so I need your help, lord. I just need–I need you to give me a sign that it’s your will that doc’s soul will be saved for a second time.

[Knock at door]

Ben: Is that okay?

Ciara: Well, it makes me feel much better knowing that there’s a little angel watching over you two after we leave.

John: God, you don’t know how good it is to see you.

Gabriel: I have some idea. You didn’t think that I would stay away, did you? Not when you’re going through such a trying time.

John: Gabe, I’m telling you, I have never in my life just felt so helpless and so scared.

Gabriel: I understand. But you must remember that god is always with you, even if you can’t see him.

John: Well, you know, I need god to do more than just see me right now.

Gabriel: I know that you do. I’m not supposed to get involved in people’s affairs, but these circumstances are… extraordinary, to say the least.

John: Oh, marlena is in such terrible trouble. I’m starting to believe that only divine intervention is going to save her.

Gabriel: Then I guess it’s a good thing that I’m here.

John: You can help me find her then, right? Because I don’t have any idea where to start!

Gabriel: Marlena is leaving carnage in her wake wherever she goes, a trail of pain that is pretty easy to follow.

John: Well, that’s easy for you to say. Now, look, gabriel, I know that you’re not supposed to interfere here, but I don’t have time for riddles, so just tell me– me, where’s my wife?

Ben: You’re not laying a finger on my wife. I won’t let you.

Abigail: Okay. Well, then I guess we better get them upstairs, get them wrapped before they realize we’ve got a very, very close working relationship with the old santa claus.

Jack: Ah, the mad rush to hide the last-minute gifts for the kids on christmas eve! I remember it well.

Chad: I thought when you called us you said that you couldn’t get a flight because of the storm.

Jack: Well, yes, yes. There was a storm, and I was looking at spending a very sad christmas in the airport hotel, but luckily, the weather changed, and we were able to catch the first flight out.

Abigail: We?

Jennifer: Merry christmas!

Abigail: Oh, my god!

[Both screaming]

[Overlapping chatter]

Jennifer: Hi, baby. Oh, my gosh. Hi!

Jan: Awkward!

Shawn: What the hell is this? Belle, I swear, I swear i thought that was you.

Belle: Obviously, but how did this happen?

Shawn: I don’t know. I got a text message. I got a text message to come to this room, and then, and then you–you answered the door.

Jan: No, I opened the door.

Shawn: No. Belle, you saw her, you saw her–she looked exactly like you– exactly!

Oh, I’ll take that as a compliment, although I’m a lot more fun.

Shawn: Belle, belle, I swear, I swear I didn’t know anything about this.

Belle: I don’t understand. After everything that happened with kayla and steve, you didn’t think to check that this was me before you jumped into bed?

Shawn: I thought I was being careful! I was afraid that the devil was going to pull some illusion thing, and then– I even called–I called rafe. Rafe said that you just left the station and that you had a surprise for me for our– for our anniversary, so I came here.

Jan: Spoiler alert, I don’t think that was rafe on the phone. See, as much as I would love to take all of the credit, I had A…partner.

[Eerie off-notes]

Shawn: Oh, my god.

Belle: The devil is working with jan spears.

Steve: When was the last time you saw tripp?

Allie: Last night. He told me he was working an overnight shift, and he was supposed to come meet me this morning.

Steve: But he never showed up?

Allie: No. I mean, I just that maybe he got pulled into some sort of emergency, so I came to check on him.

Steve: You know, I called him a couple of times to see if he wanted to join us for christmas eve, but he never got back to me.

Allie: Okay. Well, have you talked to any of the staff?

Steve: Yeah, I checked with the nurse, and she said that he never clocked out of his night shift.

Allie: But if he never clocked out, then wouldn’t that mean that he’s still here?

Steve: I don’t know. But I know how we can find out.

John: Please, gabe. I really need you. Every day that goes by, I can feel her just being pulled further and further away from me, so please tell me if you know where she is.

Gabriel: If ever there was a time to make an exception, it’s now.

John: Then you do know.

Gabriel: She’s with your friends, doug and julie.

John: She tried to hurt them before. I’ve got to go to them.

Gabriel: No, wait. Take this with you.

John: Saint benedict medal?

Demon marlena: I let that happen. I’ve been so generous with all of you. It’s as though you’ve forgotten who I am.

Julie: Oh, we know exactly who you are.

Belle: Then who the hell was in the hospital?

Jan: Does it really matter, belle? The point is your husband and i just shared a wonderful moment. On your blessed anniversary, no less.

Abigail: What an amazing surprise–I didn’t even know you were coming home.

Jack: That’s why it’s called a surprise.

Abigail: But are you here for good, like, home, home? Are you all finished with grandma’s estate?

Jennifer: Almost, almost. I just, I couldn’t wait to get here to spend christmas with my family. So tell me, what’s happening? What’s on the agenda for tonight? I’m ready.

Abigail: Well, we’re just, we’re going to get the kids ready after we get the presents stowed, so…

Jennifer: Great. For what?

Abigail: Don’t tell me you even have to ask. It’s almost time to go hang the ornaments with doug and julie.

Steve: Okay, here we go. Now, kayla’s at home resting after her run-in with your grandmother. She said it was definitely okay to use her computer to look for tripp.

Allie: And you can pull up security footage?

Steve: Yep. Should tell us exactly what time he got here, if and when he left.

Allie: There, there he is. He’s coming through the front entrance.

Steve: 6:55 P.M. That makes sense. He said he had an overnight shift.

Allie: Yeah, he was supposed to get home 7 A.M. This morning.

Steve: All right. Let’s fast-forward. Hang on.

Allie: Why did the screen go blank–did you go too far?

Steve: No, recording’s still playing, but there’s nothing there. It’s like it was erased.

Allie: But why would the hospital erase security footage?

Steve: They wouldn’T. Just go back. Okay. 7:22 P.M. That’s when the recording went blank.

Allie: Okay.

Steve: That is right after I found kayla unconscious in this office after marlena attacked her.

Allie: Are you saying that– that my grandma is the one who erased the tapes?

Steve: Or worse. I think she might have done something to tripp.

Jan: Are the cops really necessary, shawn? Although, they would have been fun back in the hotel room, am I right?

Shawn: Shut up and sit down.

Jan: Yes, sir.

Shawn: Now, you’re gonna sit there until I find a cell available for you.

Jan: Fine by me. I have some delicious memories to keep me occupied.

Belle: Enough of your games. How did you do this, and where is my mother?

Jan: Oh, you mean my new bestie, the prince of darkness?

Belle: Where is she?

Jan: Well, satan doesn’t exactly share her schedule with me, and even if she did, I wouldn’t tell you. After all, I have her to thank for this whole glorious day.

Belle: Oh, shut the hell up!

Shawn: Belle, we’re gonna find your mom, and jan’s gonna pay for what she’s done.

Jan: Oh, please, shawn. Don’t act like you didn’t have any fun. I bet you were surprised by some of belle’s new tricks.

Belle: Oh, you crazy bitch.

Shawn: The only fun I’m going to have is seeing you locked up for good.

Jan: You can deny it all you want, but the chemistry we had was real. It always has been. So go ahead, lock me up. It’s not gonna change what happened.

Demon marlena: I heard there was a party. The gang’s all here, and they’re going to roast chestnuts on an open fire. Or maybe…maybe they’re just gonna roast.

Ben: Right before you got here, she was threatening to set us all on fire.

John: Never gonna happen.

Demon marlena: More empty promises.

Julie: We are stronger now. John is with us.

Demon marlena: I wouldn’t count on that. John is not your savior. Ask him about how I nearly choked him to death the other day.

John: And yet I’m still here.

Demon marlena: And yet belle isn’t here to rescue you this time.

John: So what are you bloviating about now?

Demon marlena: Let’s just say that belle is otherwise occupied.

John: What’d you do?

Demon marlena: Well, it wasn’t me. Not entirely. But, as we speak, her marriage is up in flames.

John: I said, what did you do?

Demon marlena: Oh, don’t get all bothered. But I actually am glad you’re here. Because now I can kill four birds with one stone.

Ciara: No, no!

John: God, protect us.

Demon marlena: Ha, you think you’re clever.

John: You’re not the only one with power. I’ve got god on my side, and with his help, I am taking you out.

Demon marlena: Where’d you get the medal?

John: From my friend.

Demon marlena: [Baby voice] Oh, your fwiend? Gabriel? Kind of thought so. You know, he’s not meant to get involved.

John: Neither are you!

Demon marlena: I’m still stronger.

John: And with the strength of god, I will not let you hurt the people that I love. Forgive me, doc!

Julie: Oh. John.

Demon marlena: [Exhales]

John: Begone!

Ciara: Are you okay?

Ben: Yeah, I’m fine. We’re fine. John and I got marlena into the car.

Doug: Did she wake up?

Ben: No, thank god.

Julie: Do you think john is safe to be alone with that-that creature?

Ben: He insisted that he do this on his own. I’m just glad that ciara’s safe.

Ciara: She came for me, ben. She came for our baby.

Ben: I know. But you are safe now, okay? You’re safe.

Julie: Yes, you are safe, ciara, because if anyone can drive out that demon, it’s john. Because of his great love for marlena.

Doug: And the power of our love, kid.

Doug: So, on christmas eve, we have shown satan that there are powers greater than the ultimate evil.

Allie: What could my grandma have done to tripp? I mean, do you think she hurt him, or worse?

Steve: We don’t know that yet. First we need to find him.

Allie: Okay, well, we know he was here in the hospital, and no one saw him leave, so that does that mean that he’s still around here somewhere?

Steve: [Sighs]

[Phone rings] Belle, is everything okay?

Belle: Oh, thank god you answered.

Steve: What’s wrong?

Belle: Well, you know how you thought my mom was going to use jan to hurt shawn and me?

Steve: Yeah. She told kayla it would be a fate worse than death.

Belle: Yeah, well, she wasn’t bluffing. Shawn and I are at the police station–shawn is booking jan right now.

Steve: What? We just saw jan in the hospital yesterday. She was still in a coma.

Belle: Well, you might wanna check who’s in that bed, because it sure as hell isn’t jan.

Steve: Oh, no.

Julie: Well, I don’t know how everybody else feels, but after everything that’s transpired, I’m looking forward to a quiet christmas.

Doug: And a peaceful new year.

Ciara: Man, this was supposed to be such a wonderful day, decorating the tree, spending time together, hanging up the ornaments and the stockings, and now look. She torched our angel.

Ben: Well, at least nobody got hurt, and I still have you here with me.

Julie: Exactly. The devil himself tried to ruin our holiday, but we’re still going to have a horton family christmas.

Jennifer: Did I hear someone say “horton family christmas”?

[Squealing, chatter]

Abigail: Ben?

Ben: Hey, abigail. Listen, it’s okay. I don’t want to make a mess of your christmas.

Chad: Look, this holiday’s about family coming together, celebrate joy and hope.

Ben: Really?

Thomas: Where’s the angel?

Julie: The angel got a boo-boo.

Julie: The angel is resting on a little pink cloud. That’s where angels always rest. And you know what? You two got here just in time because we’re going to hang the ornaments, and you can help me figure out what we’re going to put on the top of that tree.

Abigail: Shouldn’t we wait for eli and lani?

Jennifer: And aunt maggie.

Doug: With philip missing, maggie wanted to stay close to victor.

Julie: Mm-hmm. And I heard from eli that the twins were not feeling so great, so he and lani thought they should rest to be nice and fresh for christmas day. Which means the two of you are going to get to hang their ornaments, too.

Jennifer: Yay!

Abigail: Whoo.

[Chatter]

Shawn: Police, open up!

Jan: What should we do?

Sami: Ej, when we were in italy and I was looking after you, I was happy to do it. I was happy to do it body and soul. I wanted to help you. And it was probably the most unselfish thing I’ve ever done in my whole life. There was no schemes, no agenda. I love you. And even when you were cold and mean, I still love you.

Ej: I have expressed my remorse for how I treated you. But I’ll say it again. Samantha, I am so, so, sorry. I wasn’t in my right mind. That’s not an excuse, just a reason.

Sami: I’m not asking you to apologize again. Because I have forgiven you for that. I truly have. The way that you looked at me then, it hurt. But nothing like how it hurt when you looked at me when you found out that I had lied to you and that I had slept with lucas. And I just need to make sure you’re never gonna look at me like that again.

Ej: I’m not doing that now, am I?

Sami: No, but I need to understand what changed. And I need to make sure that that change is real.

Rafe: You can’t be too careful, especially with the devil among us. But it’s christmas eve, shawn. Take the rest of the night off. Spend some quality time with that beautiful wife of yours.

Rafe: All right. I’ll go call the public defender’s office and let ’em know.

Belle: You know, if you’re as smart as you think you are, you’ll make that deal.

Shawn: I just–I’m sorry, belle. I just–with everything that’s been going on in salem, and it’s like, you know, philip is missing, he’s presumed dead. And your mom, your mom, your mom’s possessed, and she’s wreaking havoc everywhere. I just–I feel like we shouldn’t be doing this. I mean, I feel–i just–I don’t know, I feel like this is selfish.

Jan as belle: Oh, come on. You know what? You know how you should think of it? What does the devil hate more than anything else?

Shawn: I don’t know. What, christmas?

Jan as belle: Yes, and love. And I love you more than life itself. And I can’t think of a better way to stick it to old satan than for you to take me to bed and have your way with me.

Shawn: You’re right. I just–this is our anniversary. I mean, we should be cebrating. I mean, damn to the devil.

Julie: Another cookie, benjamin?

Ben: You know what, julie, I think I’m good for now. But thank you. And, you know, we really should probably get back to the safe house.

Julie: Oh, of course we were hoping you could stay and hang the ornaments with all of us. But I understand.

Ciara: Well, would it be okay if ben and I hung up our ornaments now?

Ben: You know something. I never told you this before. Last year when I thought I’d lost you, and everybody thought you were dead, doug asked me to hang your ornament, and I was so upset that I couldn’t do it in front of everyone.

Ben: No, it wasn’t sad. I mean, at first it was but then after when I was alone I did it. I felt your hand on top of mine just like mine is on top of yours right now.

Ej: It wasn’t about impressing her. After everything that went down, chanel needed time away from her family. So what did I miss while I was gone?

Ej: [Clears throat]

Lucas: I already got what i wanted for christmas this year.

Sami: What’s that?

Lucas: Pompous ass probably drawing up papers right as we speak. Or he probably gave ’em to you already.

Lucas: You know what? I don’t have time to hear about your love life right now, actually. I’m on my way to check on my mom; she’s upstairs.

He’s my little brother. And I know our relationship wasn’t perfect, but I still love him and I still miss him. And I still don’t know if I’m gonna see him ever again. So come on, open the door.

Belle: No, uh, and you know what? I really can’t talk about this right now. I have to get this suit over to brady before his–

Belle: He’s not doing great. He was just arrested for murder.

Sami: But he has you to defend him, right? So–so that’s good. I’m just really worried about mom. Hasn’t john called? Has he given you any information? How is he doing?

Belle: Uh, he hasn’t called yet. I’m sure it’s ’cause he’s out on the search. And steve’s with him. And shawn’s at the safehouse with ben and ciara, and–

Sami: I just don’t even know what good that’s gonna do. Mom can turn herself into a cat or a pumpkin or a christmas tree. I mean–

Belle: Yeah, well, got any other ideas?

Sami: No. No, I don’T. When I called her, when I finally managed to reach her when I was kidnapped and she told me what was happening, I felt so desperate to help her, to do something. And there’s just nothing we can do.

Belle: Yeah, no. There’s nothing we can do right now.

Sami: I hate that helplessness. I hate it so much, belle, which is why I wanna hire you.

Belle: Hire me? To do what?

Sami: To help me save my marriage.

Ej: Remember you told me that chanel felt marlena wanted her to drop that bombshell at abe and paulina’s wedding? That somehow your grandmother was insisting that she tell everyone paulina’s secret.

Johnny: Yeah, I’m still shocked actually that grandma would even share that secret with chanel–that paulina is not just chanel’s mom, but she’s lani’s mom too.

Johnny: Of course she did. As a patient talking to a therapist. I mean, for grandma to share something like that with someone, especially somebody with such a personal connection, that’s–that’s not like her.

Paulina: I thought you went away with johnny to process what happened at the wedding, not to get busy all over italia.

Philip: I don’t know. I figured… no one would really miss me that much.

Lucas: Oh, really? Did you hear what I just said outside there?

Philip: That’s why i opened the door. It meant… it meant so much to me. But lucas, you can’t tell anyone I’m alive. You can’t

Lucas: All right. All right, man, I won’T. Relax. But what are you gonna do?

Philip: I don’t know. Mom just went to talk to my father. She said she has a plan to fix this–fix me. But I don’t know that I’m fixable. My god, look at what I’ve done.

Lucas: Hold on, hold on. Just relax, all right? You’ve been under a lot of stress the last few months. You’ve been pushed to your limit. It’s not your fault.

Philip: A lot of it is. You know, the gambling. Getting involved with ava vitali. Twice. I made some terrible choices.

Lucas: Who hasn’t? Come on.

Philip: [Sighs] But being with chloe was supposed to turn all that around. You know, it was supposed to be a whole new beginning like I told you and mom at the pub that day. I was giving up on the jealousy, the paranoia, the blowing up over nothing. And I had it all under control until…

Lucas: What? What? Until what?

Philip: When I left the pub that day, I went to basic black and I overheard brady and chloe talking about having sex on the conference table. And it took me right back to high school. You know, brady moving in on my girlfriend, taking what’s mine. I don’t know. Something inside me just snapped.

Lucas: Well, of course you did; they were having an affair under your nose.

Philip: Except they weren’T. Chloe told my mom it was all a misunderstanding. She and brady never slept together.

Lucas: And you believe that?

Philip: I don’t know. But if I really love chloe, shouldn’t I trust her?

Lucas: I don’t know. Not necessarily. Not when it comes to brady.

Philip: Well, but even if she did cheat on me, what I did was worse– was much worse.

Lucas: Philip, come on.

Philip: I let the people I love think I was dead. I set brady up to go to prison for a murder he didn’t commit.

[Sighs] I’ve done so much damage. And now how do I undo it, lucas?

Victor: Why would philip fake his own death?

Kate: [Sighs] And he also framed brady for the murder. But trust me, victor, he was not in his right mind when he did it.

Victor: It’s because of that trollop, chloe lane. She–she–she drove him to this.

Kate: I mean, he believes that everything he’s done he’s failed at. He believes that no one loves him. I’m afraid he really thinks that life is not worth living. He needs help.

Victor: What he needs is a damn good lawyer.

Kate: Oh, god. He’s fragile. Just the stress of a trial would be too much. I mean, not to mention a prison sentence.

Victor: What are you saying, kate? Is he going to live in the room over the brady pub for the rest of his life?

Kate: What I’m saying is that you and I need to make him disappear so he can get the help that he needs.

Victor: Mm, I can’t do that. We do it every night.

Victor: I would do anything in my power to help philip. But brady’s my grandson. I can’t let him go to prison for a murder he didn’t commit.

Kate: Okay. Well, there has to be something to make this mess go away for both of them, then.

Victor: And what would that be?

Kate: I don’t know. I’m not sure yet. But we need to figure it out together.

Lucas: Listen, I’m sure that mom and victor can help you in some way.

Philip: They can’t fix everything. My future with chloe is probably over. If I ever had one. Brady’ll probably get out of this and somehow convince chloe that he’s innocent. She’ll give him another chance and he’ll win.

Lucas: Well, don’t do that. Don’t go there.

Philip: She’ll want nothing to do with me and I’ll have no other choice but to walk away. But I’m just not sure that I can.

Sami: There’s no way in hell I am giving up on my marriage, belle. Anyway, ej only wants to divorce me over some “dimera pride” I know he still loves me, okay? And I’m gonna fight like hell. I’m ready to do whatever it takes to save my marriage. What?

Belle: I just can’t believe you’re thinking about yourself at a time like this.

Sami: Come on, belle. I came over here to get an update on mom.

Belle: Right. But since there isn’t one, why not just ask for a favor for yourself.

Sami: Is it a crime to ask my sister to help me save my marriage?

Belle: Oh, my god. Sami, mom is possessed, philip might be dead, and brady is facing prison for murder. And you’re thinking about your marriage?

Sami: Yeah. I am also worried about my marriage. And as a married woman, I would think you’d appreciate that it is not exactly a trivial matter. We have two kids together. He is the love of my life.

Belle: Okay, okay, okay. Fine. I get it.

Sami: So you’ll represent me?

Belle: Even if I wanted to, I can’T. I work for dimera enterprises. It would be unethical for me to represent you.

Sami: Aren’t you representing your brother right now?

Belle: Yes, and he’s waiting for me. I’m sure that you won’t have any trouble finding another lawyer.

Sami: Belle, I don’t want another lawyer, I want you.

Belle: No, you want someone to make ej stay married to you.

Sami: Y-yes. That would be the point.

Belle: Okay, well, that’s exactly why I have to turn you down.

Sami: What? Why?

Belle: Because I don’t take cases I know I can’t win.

Johnny: So when the ouija board said that the devil was at the dimera crypt–

Ej: It was right on the money.

Johnny: And when I went there to scout it for my movie and I ran into grandma marlena outside, that wasn’t just a halloween costume she was wearing? She… she actually is possessed by the devil?

Ej: Satan had taken possession of her. And she locked john and your grandma susan in the crypt. You inadvertently tipped off steve johnson before you left town, otherwise they would have barely made it out alive.

Johnny: Well, are they okay now?

Ej: Physically, yes. My mother is still a little shaken up. She’s staying here, in fact, and would be delighted to see you.

Johnny: Yeah, no wonder grandma was so stoked about my movie. Do you this this is gonna derail the whole project? Uh, no, I’m s–never mind. That is–I’m sorry. That’s the last thing that matters right now. Um… does mom know about all this or is she still off the grid?

Ej: Actually son, there’s something else you should know.

Chanel: Johnny’s grandmother is possessed by the devil?

Paulina: Her evil eyes bore right into mine. And I lived to tell the tale.

Chanel: Oh, my god. Johnny has no idea.

Paulina: Well, I’m sure he does by now. The whole town– everybody else does. Probably the whole world. Were you living under a rock in italy?

Chanel: I told you, we were…busy. Actually, we–

[Knocks on door]

Paulina: [Chuckles] Hold that thought.

Chanel: I’ll get it.

[Light, tense music]

Hi susan! Honey?

Paulina: Oh, lani? Um, I’m glad you came by.

Lani: Um, chanel, I–I–I thought you were in italy.

Chanel: I got back this morning. And lani, I can’t say this enough, I am so sorry about what I did at the wedding.

Lani: It wasn’t your fault.

Chanel: Thank you for understanding. While I was away, I did a lot of thinking.

Lani: About what?

Chanel: How jealous I was because I thought you were mama’s favorite. It was stupid and petty and I’m over it now. I got something I always wanted–a sister.

Lani: [Chuckles]

Chanel: And no matter how you feel about me, I am so grateful.

Lani: So am I. Chanel, what we are, it may have changed, but…what hasn’t changed is that I love you very much. And I always will. Okay?

[Sentimental music]

Chanel: Mama feels the same way about you.

Lani: Yeah, um… it said that in the card that you sent with the flowers.

Paulina: Oh, so you got them.

[Chuckles] Uh, is that why you came by here?

Lani: Actually, it is.

Johnny: Mom was kidnapped? By who?

Ej: No one knows. After that clod lucas rescued her, she declined to file a police report.

Johnny: Why?

Ej: You’d have to ask her.

Johnny: Is she okay?

Ej: I’d guess it’s the kidnappers who are a little worse for wear.

Johnny: I’m calling her now.

[Cell phone beeps]

[Line ringing]

Sami: Johnny?

Johnny: Mom. Hey, dad just told me what happened. Are you okay?

Sami: Yes, yes. I’m fine. I’m just so happy to hear your voice.

Johnny: I’m a lot happier to hear yours. When can I see you?

Sami: Um, well, are you at home with your father now?

Johnny: Yeah.

Sami: I can come over now if that’s okay.

Johnny: That’s perfect. I’ll see you soon.

[Cell phone beeps] Mom’s coming over.

Ej: Now?

Johnny: Is that a problem?

Ej: No, not a problem. It’ll give me a chance to serve her with new divorce papers. She tore up the last ones.

Johnny: You’re still getting divorced?

Ej: Why do you sound surprised?

Johnny: I don’t know. I just thought after you found out what mom went through it might make you miss her. Make you realize what she means to you.

Ej: She cheated on me, johnny. I’ve moved on. I’m with nicole now.

Johnny: [Scoffs] Nicole? Really? Didn’t you cheat on nicole with mom?

Ej: Your point being?

Johnny: I guess we’ll see.

Ej: Mm.

Belle: You know, if you think getting in ej’s face every 5 minutes is gonna make him fall back in love with you–

Sami: I didn’t ask for your advice, counselor. But I’m gonna give you a tip. You messed with the devil’s plans when you showed up at that cabin. So if I were you, I’d avoid any black cats crossing your path.

Belle: Oh, yes. Thanks, sami. Appreciate it.

Sami: Oh, and happy anniversary.

[Phone rings]

[Phone beeps]

Belle: Hey, kate. Uh, sure. I’ll be right there.

[Phone beeps]

Kate: Okay, belle’s on her way. And don’t you look so glum. This is going to work.

Victor: Well, it better.

[Tense music]

– Oh…oh. – What’s going on?

Lani: The flowers were beautiful.

Paulina: I’m glad you like them. Took me a long time to pick out the arrangement.

Lani: Yeah, well… I will be taking them to the hospital tomorrow and give them to someone who actually wants them. And as for this card…

Chanel: Lani.

Lani: Chanel, I know you mean well, but this is between me and paulina. I want you to stop reaching out to me. Stop sending me gifts that I will either give away or throw in the trash. I know how much you don’t like to waste a penny of your hard-earned money.

Paulina: Lani. Lani. [Stammers] Merry christmas.

Lani: Bye.

Paulina: Please say happy birthday to those two beautiful little angels for me.

[Door shuts]

[Somber music]

Johnny: Look, if you’re uncomfortable being around mom, you can leave before she gets here.

Ej: Who’s uncomfortable? As I said, it’ll give me the opportunity to take care of our legal business. And then she’ll be out of my life once and for all.

Johnny: Fine, but chanel is coming over for lunch soon, so I would appreciate it if you two could keep it civil.

Ej: It seems chanel is accustomed to family drama. But–

Sami: Johnny! Johnny! Johnny! There you are!

Johnny: Mom!

Sami: Oh! It’s so good to see you.

Johnny: You too.

Sami: Look at your handsome face. I can’t believe you’re here and allie’s here and your father’s here. We’re all in salem together at once. It’s like a christmas miracle.

Johnny: Hasn’t happened since we were little.

Sami: Isn’t it just the most wonderful time of the year? There’s nothing more wonderful than having my family back together.

[Sobbing]

Lucas: Look, man, I don’t know. I don’t know what’s gonna happen with chloe. I really don’T. But you got other things to worry about right now.

Philip: Yeah. Okay, I won’T. I will focus on making things right.

Philip: It’s just… you know, what’s right is brady being with kristen. You know, she’s the love of his life. And for me… it’s always been chloe. Of course there was other relationships, but–

Philip: Sami.

Kate: There’s not going to be a bail hearing.

Kate: Victor and I have decided to revoke the document we signed having philip declared legally dead.

Victor: Without a body, trask has no case.

Kate: And she’ll have to drop the charges against brady.

Belle: That’s true.

[Laughs] I’m glad to see you’ve come to your senses, but why?

Jan: Talk about a merry christmas. And I owe it all to you. You got me out of that damn coma and gave me life again.

Demon marlena: What can i say, I’m just a giver. That’s as long as you do as I want.

Jan: Are you kidding? Mm, color in my cheeks, sparkle in my eyes. No one would ever guess that I’ve wasted six months of my life hooked up to machines. And no one will ever guess that I’m back, since you worked that voodoo you do so well.

Demon marlena: Jan–

Jan: I don’t know how you did it, and I don’t care. All I know is the joke is on everyone else. That twerpy little dr. Tripp is now chained to those machines, and I am free as a bird.

Demon marlena: Jan.

Jan: What?

Demon marlena: You’re only going to be free if you do exactly as I’ve asked.

Jan: And I will do you proud, since we want the exact same thing.

Demon marlena: Okay. We’ve got a lot to do if we’re going to destroy shawn and belle’s marriage on their first–and last wedding anniversary.

Belle: Hey, handsome. Happy anniversary.

Shawn: Hey, happy anniversary yourself, gorgeous.

Belle: [Chuckles]

Shawn: I missed you last night.

Belle: Yeah?

Shawn: Mm-hmm.

Belle: How did things go at the safe house?

Shawn: Well, no sign of marlena, or I should say the devil. And ben and ciara and the baby are safe for now. I’ve got my best guys guarding the place. What about you, what are you doing here? Are you here for brady’s bail hearing?

Belle: Oh, no, good news, I don’t think there’s gonna be one.

Shawn: Wait, what happened?

Belle: Sounds like kate and victor decided to revoke the document certifying philip’s death, so without that and, you know, without a body, I think I can get the charges dropped.

Shawn: I mean, that’s great, but hold on, I thought that kate was out for brady’s blood.

Belle: Not anymore.

[“Away in a manger” plays]

Roman: Kate!

Kate: Roman, I–I just don’t have the time–

Roman: Well, make time. Take a moment.

Kate: [Sighs] Wh–what?

Roman: Look, I know you’re grieving philip, and I respect your need for space, but kate, you shouldn’t be spending so much time alone, especially on christmas eve.

Kate: Okay, I–I understand, but I have–I really have to go.

Roman: Kate–and I need to say what the hell’s so important that you need to race up those stairs to get to it?

Kate: Why is this turning into an interrogation, roman?

Roman: Because I’m concerned, kate. Closing yourself off, bottling up your feelings like this, not good for you. And it’s not gonna bring back your son.

Kate: Okay, don’t talk about philip like he’s dead, because he’s alive.

Philip: You kidnapped sami? That’s crazy.

Lucas: This coming from a guy who faked his own death. I did what you said to do– “go after what you want. Reclaim the woman you love. Fight dirty if you have to.”

Philip: Ah, right, so it’s my fault you went off the rails?

Lucas: No, it’s not. It’s not, I just– I took your idea, and I ran with it.

Philip: But why? Why would you do something like that?

Lucas: I did it because I love sami. That’s why. I love her so much that there’s no way in hell I’m gonna let her go back to ej, not this time.

Sami: W–wait a second. Did you just say that you got married to a woman I just met for the first time a minute ago?

Paulina: For once in my life I’m totally speechless.

Ej: So that’s why you were so eager to fly off to italy on the company jet?

Johnny: It’s not like it was planned or anything. It just–it–

Chanel: It just happened. When johnny promised to cheer me up after I ruined your wedding, I had no idea I’d come back a married lady.

Johnny: We were walking by the san carlo of the four fountains, that– that little church you used to take me to when I was ten. And father bianchi’s still there.

Chanel: It was so beautiful and romantic.

Johnny: And all of a sudden, I was just down on a knee, proposing.

Chanel: And I said yes.

Johnny: Before we knew it, I mean, the padre was pronouncing us husband and wife. I–isn’t anyone gonna congratulate us or–

Ej: [Clears throat] Sorry, son. I, for one, think you’ve made a terrible mistake.

[Soft dramatic music]

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Johnny: Dad, I thought you like chanel.

Ej: Liking her and wanting her as my daughter-in-law are two entirely different matters. And I can’t ignore the fact that she recently, albeit briefly, was married to one of my clients, thinking he was very wealthy. Which leads me to believe that ms. Dupree is congratulating herself on getting it right this time, on landing a live one.

Chanel: What? No. That is so unfair.

Paulina: You damn right it is. Now, my daughter, she doesn’t need your family’s money.

Ej: One can never have too much, can one? But as you well know, son, i control the purse strings here.

Johnny: Mm. And what’s that supposed to mean, dad? You threatening to cut me off?

Ej: Not if you do the intelligent thing and get an annulment.

Lucas: You remember how ticked sami was when she found out that nicole gave ej the letter that kristen wrote. And they blamed me for breaking up her marriage.

Philip: Mm, that’s my bad, brother. I’m sorry I got into the middle of it. I thought giving that letter to nicole would help things. Instead, it made things worse.

Lucas: It doesn’t matter. It’s not the point. The point is it doesn’t matter how ej found the letter. What matters is–is sami tagged me as the bad guy when I yanked that letter out of the fireplace, not ej. Not the guy who treated her like crap all those years and kicked her out of the house. No, no, no. She still wants to be married to him. Idiot jerk.

Philip: I remember that conversation. You were pretty upset. That’s why I walked you home.

Lucas: Yeah, except I didn’t stay home. I went to gabi’s house, because I knew sami was gonna be there to ask gabi if she could move back into the dimera mansion. That was like a punch to the gut, man. I couldn’t do that. Sami and ej living under the same roof? I had to do something, man. I had to stop it.

Sami: I’m gonna get you back, ej. Whatever it takes. Gabi! Is anyone home?

[Muffled yelling]

[Eerie music]

Lucas: And after that, there was no turning back.

Shawn: Brady’s gonna be able to enjoy christmas without these charges hanging over his head.

Belle: Yeah. Great news.

Shawn: I feel like you don’t seem too thrilled about it.

Belle: Oh, I am. Of course I am. I–obviously, I–I’m just, uh– I don’t know, I’m having trouble getting into the christmas spirit with my mom being possessed by the devil.

Shawn: Yeah, yeah, um, about that, I, uh– well, I have news.

Belle: By the look on your face, it’s not good?

Shawn: No, no, it’s not. Look, your mom–or the devil morphed into steve. And he attacked kayla at the hospital last night.

Belle: Oh, my god. Is kayla okay?

Shawn: Yeah, yeah, she’s fine, but your mom stole her master key card.

Belle: Wh–doesn’t she already have one?

Shawn: No, no, but the codes were changed after snyder stole those drugs and jan woke up from a come and escaped to kill charlie dale.

Belle: Well, what would the devil want with a hospital key card?

Shawn: He might be using it in whatever plan that he has against us.

Belle: Against us? What do you mean?

Shawn: The devil doesn’t like that we’re in its way. He told kayla that he was gonna make us suffer a fate worse than death.

Belle: And somehow a hospital key card is part of that plan? I mean, what would the devil want in the hospital? Jan.

Shawn: That’s a theory. But when steve and kayla checked on her, she was still in her coma, so–

Belle: Okay, good. I hope she stays there forever. So where is my mom– or the devil?

Shawn: She’s still at large.

Belle: And we’re her next target.

Jan: So… what’s the plan? What? It’s been months. I deserve a little celebration.

Demon marlena: We can celebrate after the mission is accomplished.

Jan: I know how to do it. So we will make shawn and that bitch, belle, renew their wedding vows. We’ll knock her over the head, stash her body somewhere, and then I’ll put on her wedding dress and veil, just like I did last year, and reveal myself. Voil. Me again.

Demon marlena: The plan last year was an unmitigated disaster. Remember, you ended up in your second coma. Not to be confused with the last coma, your third coma, that I just had to get you out of.

Jan: So I don’t get to marry shawn?

Demon marlena: [Scoffs] Marriage is for suckers. No, you get to do the best part. You get to have sex with shawn.

Jan: Cheers!

[Laughs]

Jan: I love it. It’s perfect. But shawn hates me, so how are you gonna make him have sex with me? Mind control? ‘Cause I vote a big no on that one. I want him to do it out of his own free will, you know? I don’t want to force him.

Demon marlena: Really? You locked him up in a cage.

Jan: You really do know everything.

Demon marlena: That’s why you should believe me when I tell you that I can make things happen. For example… I could make shawn… see you, be wooed by you, throw you on the bed, and make mad, passionate love to you.

Belle: So the devil is after us now? Okay–oh, my god, shawn!

Shawn: Hey, I am sorry to frighten you. I just–I need you to know so you can keep your eyes open. I mean, trust me, if I had my way, I would take you home, I would lock you up, and lock you away from the world, including the devil.

Belle: Right. As if that’s gonna keep him out.

Shawn: Hey. Come here. Come here. We’re gonna get through this.

Belle: Okay. Yeah, we will. We will. Um, all right, I–I should go and get the charges dropped against brady, and then– you know what? Devil or no devil, we will celebrate our anniversary.

Shawn: I love you, belle.

Shawn: Hey. I need you to be careful.

Belle: I know. I will be. You too, okay?

Roman: So philip’s alive? They found him?

Kate: No. No, no. It’s nothing like that. It’s just that, uh– well, victor and I were talking, and we agreed that we made a mistake when we signed that document declaring philip dead, so we revoked it.

Roman: Well, I am glad to hear that, but what changed your mind?

Kate: I realized that wasn’t fair to brady, you know? Um, it was wrong and, uh, also it made me feel like I was giving up. And I’m not, because I really believe that philip is still out there, very much alive.

[Pager beeps]

Roman: [Groans] Delivery.

Kate: [Scoffs] Go– go do that. I tell you what, how about we have a little christmas eve lunch later?

Roman: I’ll make sure the mistletoe’s by the table.

Kate: [Laughs]

[Jazzy festive music plays]

Philip: You took sami all the way to wisconsin?

Lucas: I did. I did, but it wasn’t a great plan, okay? But I knew these two guys from prison. You know, when I did time back in the day when I– when I shot ej when I was trying to protect will? And these guys, they had this place. They had a cabin in the middle of nowhere. And I thought, this would be a great idea, right? I’ll pay them, and then they can just keep her prisoner for me.

Philip: For how long? What was the end game?

Lucas: Like I said, I didn’t have a great plan, I didn’t have an end game. Okay, and I thought about letting sami go, like, a million times. I did, man. But I knew for a fact, as soon as she came home, she’d go right back to ej like she always does.

Johnny: I’m not getting this marriage annulled.

Ej: You always did think with your heart. But this young lady understands commerce. Don’t you, dear? And you’re certainly no stranger to annulments.

Paulina: Excuse me. If anyone’s made a mistake here, it’s my little girl. You see, while your fool of a son is running around playing auteur and making little movies on his phone, my daughter, she started her own business from the ground up!

Chanel: Mama, stop! Look, you’re right. I’ve been a brat for a whole lot of my life. I was spoiled and entitled and I wanted to take the easy way out. And I made a lot of mistakes. But I’ve learned from them. I’ve learned what I want to do and who I want to be. And… I–I’m sure that allie has told you how well sweet bits is doing.

Sami: Yeah. I’m aware.

Johnny: Then show some respect.

Both: Johnny!

Johnny: Oh, but no, you can’t do that, can you? And you sure as hell can’t just be happy for me. That’d be way too much to ask, wouldn’t it?

Sami: Johnny, it’s just that it’s so sudden–

Johnny: Not for us! Look, I know about chanel’s past, and about her mistakes, and she knows about mine, and it’s only made us closer. I have zero doubt that chanel married me for love, not money. And we are 100% committed to each other.

Paulina: Are you sure about that?

Chanel: Mama!

Paulina: Now, now, baby, you brought up allie’s name. Now I didn’T. I just want to make sure that you’re really ready to– to marry allie’s brother, when not too long ago, you– you were kissing allie.

[Dramatic music]

Sami: Um, what did you just say?

Paulina: From the look on your face, I think you heard me.

Chanel: You–you know that allie and I were friends back in london. And we reconnected here in salem, and we got close. Really close. And we–we talked about it. We even talked about it with tripp and johnny. And we realized that we love each other as friends. And that’s it. Allie is in love and happy with tripp, and I am in love and happy with johnny.

Sami: So does allie know that you and johnny got married?

Lucas: And I didn’t know what to do. You know, because weeks started turning into months. And then the next thing I knew, ej was hooking up with nicole. And I thought ej was gonna move on with her, so I could let sami go. But before I could do that, sami stole one of my guys’ phones, and she called allie, and I happened to be with allie at the time. So I heard–I heard the– the fear and–and– and the desperation in sami’s voice, man, and I felt horrible about it. I did, but then I realized that I could actually save her, you know? I could rescue her.

Philip: Be the hero.

Lucas: That’s right, be the hero, and I was. Dude, I was. I knocked down the door, she gave me a huge hug. And then when I brought her home, she went right back to ej.

Lucas: You would think–you would think that sami finding ej in bed with nicole, you would think that would do it, right? You would think that would show her that the guy’s no good for her, but no. No, as of this morning, she’s– she’s fighting the divorce, she still wants to be with that idiot. And now, dude, I don’t know what to do.

Shawn: I heard that brady was arrested for murder. I’m so sorry.

Belle: Yeah, they just took him down to his cell.^

Shawn: Well, I know trask is on a war path, but I mean, come on, murder? I mean, we don’t even know if philip is dead.

Belle: Well, his parents just signed legal papers saying that he is. Even though, as you said, there is no body.

Jan: It’s not your fault. The person to blame for this is philip kiriakis. I was in a airfield with him and… chloe lane, and I had a gun. He threw dirt in my eyes.

Marlena: And he banged your head into a pole.

Jan: Stupid jerk.

Marlena: I wouldn’t worry too much about him. From what I understand, he’s– he’s gotten what’s coming to him.

Tripp: Did the police find your uncle’s body?

Allie: No. Just his prosthetic leg.

Tripp: Maybe there’s a possibility he’s still alive.

Allie: Yeah, that’s what I’m praying for. But I mean, if that was true, don’t you think that he would’ve contacted someone by now?

Kate: It’s late. What do you want?

Chloe: I heard that you and victor had philip declared dead, that you signed an official document.

Kate: Yeah. I mean, does that really surprise you? Philip’s been missing for days, his prosthetic leg was found in the river. Brady was covered in his blood. Even you should be smart enough to know that brady killed philip.

Chloe: No, I don’t know that, because there’s no body.

Kate: Nope. Just a body of evidence.

Chloe: It’s all circumstantial. There’s zero proof that philip is even dead. So you need to tell that da lady that you made a mistake by signing that document.

Kate: Why would I do that?

Chloe: Because trask is using it to railroad brady. She had him arrested.

Kate: Well, why wouldn’t she? She has a knife covered in brady’s bloody fingerprints, she has the text–the vicious text that he wrote to philip. He actually wrote that if philip didn’t cut you out of his life, he would do it. And he did, chloe.

Chloe: I don’t know what happened that night, but brady is incapable of anything like that. He swears he didn’t hurt philip, and I believe him.

Kate: [Scoffs] You’re a real piece of work, you know that? Your boyfriend was killed by brady in a jealous rage, and still you stand by him. That’s despicable.

Chloe: I care deeply for your son, but this is not fair, kate.

Kate: Oh, really? Really, is that why you and brady had sex on the conference table at basic black?

Chloe: Who told you that? Lila: Before I was diagnosed, there was nothing

Belle: So I wanted to run at theory by you about my brother’s situation.

Belle: Okay, so you know that brady and I are trying to piece together everything that happened the night that he allegedly got black-out drunk and attacked philip, right? So I went down to the pub, and I talked to rex about seeing the security footage.

Shawn: And?

Belle: And it was gone.

Shawn: I mean, well, a lot of places, they have their system set up to where it deletes the footage after a certain period of time. I mean–

Belle: Except everything else was on the tape. The only thing missing was the few hours around when brady was there.

Shawn: Okay, so, what, you think that it’s intentional? You think that somebody actually, like, purposely erased it?

Belle: I do. I am starting to think that brady’s being framed.

Shawn: By who?

Belle: Well, I’m not sure, but I have an idea.

Chloe: Answer me, kate. Who told you that I had sex with brady?

Kate: You did, chloe.

Chloe: What?

Kate: Yeah, yeah. I had a meeting at basic black, and I happened to overhear you discussing the details of how you betrayed my son.

Chloe: I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Kate: Yeah, of course you do. Because I heard you tell brady not to tell anyone about the fact that you had sex on a conference table.

Chloe: Oh, my god, that– that wasn’t us. We were talking about someone else.

Chloe: I don’t believe that. Now, brady may be jealous, he may have been drunk, but he’s not a murderer. And I for one am still holding out hope that philip is out there alive. Because the thought of losing him–

Kate: Is what? Is unbearable? I know. More so for me than for you. But we may have to just accept it.

Chloe: No, what I’m gonna accept is the truth. And if you let trask convict brady of a crime he didn’t commit, then we may never find out what happened that night. So will you please just go talk to her? And I’m not asking for my sake or for brady’s, but for philip’S.

Kate: I’ll think about it.

Shawn: So who do you think framed brady?

Belle: [Sighs] Okay. I know this sounds crazy, but what if it was kristen?

Belle: I don’t know, maybe– maybe this is a way to hurt victor too. I mean, she still hates him after he let her think that rachel was dead for an entire year.

Shawn: She had motive, and, I mean, she–she had opportunity considering she escaped police custody before this whole thing went down.

Belle: Someone went to a lot of trouble to frame my brother. If it wasn’t kristen, who else would go to such extremes?

Kayla: Ugh.

Steve: Baby. You really should get a nurse to take a look at this–

Kayla: No. No, no, no. I want to be right here with you. Look, I am so sorry. I swear, I swear marlena looked exactly–and sounded exactly like you do right now. I–I didn’t suspect anything until you kissed me.

Steve: I kissed you?

Kayla: Yeah, and that’s when you turned into marlena. She just–she just– she just seemed to take glee out of the whole thing. And she was–she–she thought the whole thing was amusing. And I was terrified. Seeing my old friend with evil in her eyes like that and that horrible voice. I thought she was gonna kill me.

Steve: Oh, thank god you’re all right. So what did she want?

Kayla: She just went on this rant, saying that you and I had been a thorn in her side, just like shawn and belle. And that she wanted them to suffer, that I was the key to helping her do that.

Steve: I wonder what she meant by that.

[Monitor beeping]

Jan: Dr. Evans, have you taken up smoking? ‘Cause your voice suddenly has this demi moore thing going on.

Demon marlena: I’m not dr. Evans. I’ve merely taken possession of her body.

Jan: Okay. You’ve clearly been smoking, and apparently more than just cigarettes.

Demon marlena: I’m not up for your juvenile jokes. I need you to start wreaking havoc on shawn and belle. And if you don’t, I’m just gonna put you back in your coma.

Jan: I’m not entirely convinced I’m awake.

Demon marlena: Don’t be ridiculous. I’m the one who brought you out of the coma.

Jan: Maybe I’m dreaming. Maybe I’m dead. If I run into philip, I swear to god.

Demon marlena: [Gasps] Don’t use the g word.

Jan: What did you just do with your eyes? They–they just turned yellow for a moment. Hoh! Wowza. You really are satan.

Demon marlena: Thank you. Don’t be afraid.

Jan: I’m not afraid. I’m delighted. God, or rather “g,” he clearly isn’t on my side, putting me in coma after coma. So it’s nice to know that someone has my back, even if it is the prince of darkness.

Demon marlena: Wow. You do have a strange way of looking at things.

Philip: What?

Kate: Look, philip, I don’t blame you for any of this, but I think it’s very clear that you misunderstood what– what brady and chloe were saying. They didn’t betray you.

Philip: No. No, I’ve seen how they are together. I know it’s true. I know it is.

Kate: Philip, maybe you want it to be true. Because otherwise everything–

Steve: I don’t understand. Marlena said she needed you to make belle and shawn suffer. So why did she knock you out and leave you here?

Kayla: I don’t know. She just kept saying that I was the key. The key, the key– my key card. It’s gone. Marlena must have taken my key card.

Steve: She wanted access to the hospital. That means she must still be here.

Kayla: What the hell is she up to?

Tripp: [Scoffs] I’m, uh, sorry to interrupt, dr. Evans. This door is usually locked, so when I saw it open, I thought I should check it out.

Jan: You seem familiar.

Tripp: Yeah, you, uh, killed my brother.

Jan: Oh. Right, you came to charlie’s door that night. Almost had to kill you too. Nothing personal.

Tripp: [Huffs] Wow, uh, when did you wake up?

Jan: Um, being comatose for months kind of messes with your sense of time, but I’d say 30 minutes or so, give or take.

Tripp: Well, that’s– that’s great news. Okay, and obviously dr. Evans has everything under control, so I’ll just leave you two alone.

[Eerie music]

Demon marlena: You’re not going anywhere.

[ Echoing ]

Belle: So detective, what’s your take on my theory? Do you think kristen could’ve framed brady?

Shawn: Well, I mean, it’s definitely her M.O. But it’s gonna be tough to prove since nobody knows where she is.

[Knock on door]

Belle: Oh, he’s in lockup for the night.

Chloe: He didn’t make bail?

Belle: Yeah, I’ll have to try again tomorrow. He said that you went to go visit my dad?

Chloe: Yeah, um, I told him that I’d talk to kate.

Belle: Oh, about what?

Chloe: Uh, trying to get her to reconsider having philip declared dead. I mean, of course she wants justice for her son. We all do, but, you know, I tried convincing her that incriminating an innocent man is not the way to do it.

Shawn: And how’d that go?

Chloe: Uh, she said that she would think about it.

Belle: Really? Wow. That’s surprising.

Chloe: Yeah, I mean, I know that kate hates my guts, but I think that maybe deep down inside, she knows that brady did not kill philip.

Philip: No, damn it, I didn’t misinterpret a damn thing! Sex on a conference room table, how do you get that wrong?

Kate: Okay, okay. Listen, just– did you actually hear brady and chloe say that they were the ones who had sex? Because they didn’T. Philip, they didn’t betray you.

Philip: Wait a minute, what are you talking about? You heard chloe, brady’s been arrested. He’s gonna spend the rest of his life behind bars for killing me.

Kate: Okay, but you are alive, philip. You’re alive.

Philip: Who cares? It’s what he deserves.

Kate: Oh, my god. Really? And so what are you gonna do with your life? What are you gonna do, hide yourself away? Are you gonna pretend you’re dead for the rest of your life? Because that would be jail too.

Philip: Maybe, but, uh, you know, if it destroys any chance that chloe and brady have at happiness, it’s well worth it.

Kate: Oh, my god, philip, no. It’s not worth it. Nothing is worth that. Nothing is worth throwing your future away. This has gone too far. This has gone way too far.

Philip: You are one to talk.

Kate: You’re right. You’re right. I have gone to extremes at times, I have. And it has been pushed by the same feelings that you’re feeling right now. That rage, that humiliation, that pain–and yes. I wanted people to suffer the way I had suffered, at any cost. But it never worked. It never does. And your suffering will only get worse, philip.

Philip: It’s not possible.

Kate: I know that you think revenge is the only way, the only thing you can do, but that’s not true. Okay? It’s not true. And you have to stop now. You have to stop now before it’s too late.

Philip: And let those two make a fool of me?

Kayla: Security’s gonna be on the lookout for marlena.

Steve: Hang on. Marlena works here. Doesn’t that mean she has a key card?

Kayla: No, but mine is different. Mine is more like a master key. I have access to all floors and all rooms. Marlena’s is–is limited, especially since we put in the new security protocols.

Steve: What new protocols?

Kayla: Well, just a few months ago, we really tightened things up around here. We didn’t want the rest of the staff taking cues from dr. Snyder and stealing pills or anything like that. Or any patients running off and murdering somebody, like jan spears.

Steve: That’s it. Marlena wanted your key card so she could get to jan spears.

Kayla: Jan is in a coma.

Steve: No one has made belle and shawn suffer the way that crazy woman has. She’s a part of marlena’s plan. I don’t know how, but she is. I got to find her.

Kayla: Not without me.

Steve: No, kayla, you’re not going anywhere.

Kayla: There is no way you are facing the devil without me. It’s final.

Steve: [Huffs]

[Monitor beeping]

Demon marlena: Tripp johnson. You are just too smart for your own good.

Tripp: I get that a lot.

Demon marlena: Mm. You thought you could fool me. But I realize that you know who I am.

Tripp: I didn’t believe it at first, but I’ve come around.

Demon marlena: You know, you should have realized it when I sent your brother, charlie, to visit you and allie.

Jan: You’re also quite skilled at bringing people out of a coma. This doctor’s got nothing on you.

Tripp: Okay, okay, dr. Evans, I need you to please hear me out. Okay, there are so many people who love you, including your granddaughter, allie. Allie, yeah. Okay, they need you to fight.

Demon marlena: Spare me the speech. Marlena is gone.

Tripp: No, I–I don’t– I don’t believe that, okay. Dr. Evans, just hang in there, okay, I’m–I’m gonna get you some help.

[Suspenseful music]

Demon marlena: Ah, don’t worry about tripp. I’ll put him to good use.

[Ominous music]

Steve: What the hell?

Kate: Philip. This isn’t about winning or losing.

Philip: The hell it’s not.

Kate: I can see how much you’re hurting.

Philip: You don’t understand.

Kate: Okay. Then help me understand. Talk to me.

Philip: [Exhales deeply] It’s like no matter how hard I try, no matter what I do, I lose. And I keep losing everyone and everything that matters to me most. Take belle and chloe. I loved them so much. And they both ended up choosing someone else.

Kate: Well, that was their loss.

Philip: And the children I thought were mine. I ended up losing them too. First claire, then parker. And I gave tyler away.

Kate: You signed off on the adoption rights because you weren’t ready to be a father, philip.

Philip: I’m such a hypocrite. Always complaining about how my father treats me. But I’m a stranger to my own son.

Kate: Sweetheart.

Philip: No, it’s the truth. And dad wasn’t wrong to want to disown me. I almost destroyed everything that he’s ever worked for in his entire life. But he gave me a second chance, you know, and–and did i make the most of it? Did I show him that I was, you know, ready for the responsibility and–and– and able to be trusted to– to not make any stupid mistakes ever again?

Kate: You were under attack at titan. Gabi and jake were trying to take you down.

Philip: No, I–I mean, I took myself down. I had my big, bright, beautiful future handed to me on a silver platter, and all I had to do was not screw it up. But I did screw it up. Like I always do. It’s, like, who I am. I’m some kind of screw-up.

Kate: Please don’t say that.

Philip: It’s true. And this new beginning with chloe was supposed to change all that, turn it all around.

[Sighs] I mean, if the most incredible woman on earth chose me, I’d be worthy of love, right? That would prove that, once and for all. But it didn’T. It proved the opposite. I– it’s like I’m worthless or damaged goods. I’m broken, in more ways than one.

Kate: [Sniffles] Don’t say that. You’re none of those things.

Philip: Then what is wrong with me? Why can’t I hold on to the people that I love? Belle, chloe, even dad. What does it take to get these people to love me?

Kate: [Sniffles] I can’t speak for anyone else, but I’m your mother, and I love you. I love you with all my heart.

[Crying]

Chloe: So you think that kristen set brady up?

Belle: Well, I think she’s definitely capable of it. I mean, I don’t think she killed philip, but I could definitely see her making him disappear.

Chloe: Oof, well, that makes a lot more sense than brady murdering anyone. He would never go that far.

Shawn: Yeah, but kristen would.

Belle: Besides, if she’s not the one that’s framing brady, who is?

Philip: [Crying] You’re right, I have made a huge mess. What am I gonna do?

Kate: [Sniffles] You are going to trust your mother. Okay? I don’t want you to worry about anything. I’m gonna fix it for you. Okay?

Allie: Tripp is so smart and funny and he’s amazing with henry.

Roman: Allie, after everything you’ve been through, it is great to see you so happy. It warms my heart.

Allie: Thanks, grandpa. Yeah, I never thought that i would ever meet someone i could feel so comfortable with. Me and tripp, the way we think, it’s like we’re in sync. You know, we even–we even bought each other matching bracelets for christmas.

[Monitors beeping]

Steve: If marlena wasn’t trying to get to jan, why would she steal your key card?

Kayla: I don’t know, but we need to keep looking for her.

Steve: You think she could still be here?

Kayla: Well, it’s a possibility. And if she is, who know what else is up her sleeve.

Xander: None of your damn business. Where’s sarah?

Kayla: Sarah horton hasn’t worked at university hospital for several months. I’m happy to give you a referral to another doctor if you’d like. Okay, well, if I can help out in any way, let me know. Okay, bye. So any news about marlena’s whereabouts?

Steve: Yeah, I talked to shawn, he and john, ben, and ciara had a pretty dramatic run-in with her.

Kayla: What happened?

Steve: You’re not gonna believe it.

Kayla: Try me.

Steve: From what I understand, marlena told ben and ciara that john was physically abusing her.

Belle: Here. How are you feeling?

John: Okay, considering.

Belle: I think you should have let me take you to the hospital.

John: Izzy, I don’t need a doctor I just need to find your mother.

Belle: Yeah, I still can’t believe what I walked in on. I-I mean, I know it’s not mom, but just seeing her choking the life out of you and ben.

John: Yeah, sweetheart. I’m just glad you showed up when you did. You probably not only saved my life, but you saved ben and your husband’s too.

Belle: Dad, we have to get mom the help she needs before we lose her forever.

John: Yeah, we will, sweetheart, I guarantee it. So has there been any news on philip? Have they found a body yet?

Philip: Something I’m sure dad’s been waiting to do since the day I was born.

Kate: Oh, don’t say that. Don’t say that. He was worried sick. We both were.

Philip: I find that hard to believe.

Kate: Well, I find all of this hard to believe, but you’re here. Oh, my god, you’re really here. Are you okay?

Philip: Don’t I look okay?

Kate: Yeah, you do. You look–you look perfect. How did you survive brady’s attack, philip?

Philip: Brady didn’t attack me. I went after him.

John: Okay, so it’s possible that philip’s still alive. That’s a very good thing.

Belle: Here. You need to support your head a little bit–

John: Sweetheart, my head is supported just fine by my neck. Will you just stop fussing about me, isabella? I’m gonna be a-okay as soon as we find your mother and bring her home safely.

Belle: Okay. Well, until mom is home and back to being herself, you’re just gonna have to accept a little extra tlc from your favorite daughter.

Belle: Hello? What? Okay, I’m on my way. I’ll meet you at the station.

John: [Sighs]

Kayla: I can understand ben believing the worst about john. Marlena saved his life. He is going to trust anything she says. But ciara, she has grown up with john and marlena.

Steve: Well, she was skeptical at first, but apparently, the devil made marlena morph to john, and then he threatened marlena right in front of them.

Kayla: Could this get any more horrifying?

Steve: Oh, it gets worse.

Kayla: I can’t imagine

Steve: The devil almost strangled ben and john to death without even touching them.

Kayla: Right, it is worse.

Rex: I hope he isn’t always this rude around you.

Xander: Answer my question, rex, where’s sarah?

Gwen: Xander.

Xander: You remember sarah, right? My fiancée? The one I found you in bed with on my wedding day. Just tell me where she is.

Rex: How the hell should I know where sarah is? I thought I was managing my moderate

Xander: What kinda game are you playing? You think this is funny?

Rex: I have no idea what you’re talking about.

Xander: Everyone knows sarah left town with you, rex.

Gwen: Xander, we really need to get to the airport now.

Xander: Just answer my question, what are you hiding?

[Light tense music]

Chloe: Hey.

Brady: Hi.

Chloe: Are you okay?

Brady: Well, I’ve been booked for murder, so I think I’ve had better days.

Chloe: I’m so sorry that this is happening.

Brady: It’s okay. Hey, it’s okay. How’d you get in here, by the way?

Chloe: Eli said it was okay if I just stay in here for a little bit.

Brady: Guess I owe him one.

Chloe: Well, I called belle, and she’s on her way down here too.

Brady: Thank you. I don’t know what good my sister’s gonna do, though. I mean, trask just has it out for me to book me for philip’s murder.

Chloe: And you really can’t remember anything that happened that day?

Brady: Chloe, I wish we could go back down to that river because I was starting to have flashes of memory, but they’re all just fuzzy. They’re all just out of reach. They’re on the edge, you know.

Chloe: I wish that there was some way that I could help you.

Brady: Actually, my dad’s probably climbing the walls right now.

Chloe: Okay, do you want me to go check on him?

Brady: If you could just stop by, let him know that I’m okay. Because everything that’s going on with marlena, I don’t want him freaking out about my situation, you know?

Chloe: Yeah. Okay. I can head down there right now and see if he needs anything.

Brady: Thanks. And I, um– I’m very thankful to you just for everything, especially for believing in me.

Chloe: Of course. I mean, brady, I know who you are, and I know your heart. We’re gonna get through this, okay, together.

Kate: Honey, brady attacked you. The police found him with the bloody knife. He was covered in your blood. He blacked out from drinking.

Philip: Pretty convincing, right?

Kate: What’s convincing?

Philip: I mean, I don’t blame you for thinking that brady killed me. That means my plan was a success.

Kate: Okay, I don’t understand.

Philip: I staged the whole thing, mom. The knife, the blood, the booze I set it all up to make it look like brady had killed me.

Kate: You bastard! Serena: It’s my 3:10

Gwen: Xander, if we miss that flight, there’s gonna be a huge rebooking fee.

Xander: It’s fine, gwen, let it go.

Gwen: Let it go?

Xander: This doesn’t make any sense. After I found you guys together. After sarah called off the wedding, she told me that she was leaving salem with you.

Rex: Well, it didn’t take her long to change her mind.

Xander: She changed her mind?

Rex: I thought we were going away together. That after everything I did, all my mistakes that I finally had her back. But when it came time to leave, she jilted me. Same way she jilted you.

Philip: Was that really necessary?

Kate: Oh, you are lucky it’s just a slap because we’re right now I feel like I could kill you myself.

Philip: Well, that’s extreme.

Kate: Philip, do you have any idea of what you’ve put me through? What you put all of us through? Why the hell would you do something like this?

Philip: Isn’t it obvious? Brady and chloe were having an affair behind my back. I had to make him pay by framing him for my murder.

Kate: Oh. Oh, I see. Because you had to torture brady and chloe, you could put the rest of us through hell?

Philip: I didn’t do it to hurt you.

Kate: To hurt me? Do you realize that I thought you were dead?

Philip: That’s why I’m here. I came back to let you know that I’m okay.

Kate: Well, gee, maybe you should have just told me beforehand or better than that, perhaps you just shouldn’t have done it at all, philip.

Philip: Mom, I’m really sorry for what I put you through, but come on. Aren’t you even a little impressed with how I was able to pull it off?

Kate: Impressed?

Philip: Don’t you wanna know how I did it?

Kate: No. No, I don’t care.

Philip: Not even a little?

Kate: Okay. Okay, fine. Philip, why don’t you tell me how you did it?

Philip: Good. Because I’ve been dying to tell someone. Okay, I’ll start it right here. I followed brady to the pub. I stayed hidden while he and chloe chatted it up. The way they were looking at each other, like I didn’t exist. But after a little while, she left, and he got a phone call.

[Phone rings] Brady was out there all alone. He never saw me coming.

[Tense music]

Kate: So you knocked him out in front of the pub?

Philip: Yep.

Kate: Philip, do you realize that anyone could have seen you do that?

Philip: Relax, I was careful.

Kate: Oh, my god. Okay, so how did you get him down to the river covered in your blood?

Philip: Patience. The story of brady black’s downfall is just beginning.

Belle: How are they treating you in here?

Belle: Okay, smart-ass, don’t take it out on me. You know you’re not the only one who’s dealing with drama.

John: I appreciate that. You know, belle just went down there, but I haven’t heard from her yet. So how’s he holding up?

Chloe: Well, he’s good, considering the circumstances.

John: Yeah, I’m fine. Just had a little run-in with el diablo.

Chloe: What?

John: Well, let’s just say that shawn, belle, ben, and I kind of mixed it up with marlena at the cabin. And as you can see, I’m a little bit worse for wear

Chloe: Well, do you need to see a doctor?

John: No, right now I’m more concerned about my son.

Chloe: Yeah, well, he’s concerned about you as well.

John: Of course, he is. So level with me here, what’s it looking like down there?

Chloe: Well, it seems like melinda trask is out for blood. So he’s kind of in a tough spot.

John: You know, how in the hell can trask even get an arrest warrant when we still don’t know if philip is alive or dead?

Kayla: Just when we thought it couldn’t get any more dangerous.

Steve: Sounds like john and the others are lucky to be alive. Most people don’t survive an encounter like that.

Kayla: Well, were they badly injured? I mean, how bad was the attack?

Steve: No, but you can imagine how shaken up they are to come face to face with a power like that. It makes you realize just how vulnerable you are.

Kayla: I just hope that you and john find marlena and get the help that she needs so that nobody else gets hurt.

Steve: I want that too, sweetness. More than anything.

[Romantic music]

Demon marlena: Now I know why they call you sweetness. Hi susan! Honey?

Kayla: Stay away from me.

Demon marlena: Really? After we shared that lovely, romantic kiss.

Kayla: You are sick.

Demon marlena: Really? I kinda thought we had some chemistry.

Kayla: What the hell do you want?

Demon marlena: Well, it’s a very big question. I want so many things.

Kayla: Why would you pretend to be my husband?

Demon marlena: Oh, come now. You’re a smart, respected doctor. Surely you can figure that out. What I can’t figure out is how long you would’ve let that kiss go.

Kayla: What have you done with steve?

Demon marlena: I haven’t done anything to your precious steve. Because it’s you I’m after.

[Eerie music]

Brady: Marlena would’ve killed them.

Belle: I don’t even wanna think about that. It was terrifying to see her like that. Just going crazy on the people that she loves.

Brady: Hey, hey, hey. You know, that’s not your mom.

Belle: Yeah, I know. I just can’t believe this is happening again. You know, we’ve heard the stories but to see it up close.

Brady: I know. Dad must be a wreck.

Belle: Yeah, which is actually why I’m here to see you. I know that the one thing that will help dad sleep easier is the getting you out from under this murder rap.

Brady: Yeah. Well, let’s talk about this. I mean, I wanna know how trask can have me arrested when all of this evidence is circumstantial?

Belle: Well, she was able to pull off something that changed everything.

Brady: They– you’re not telling me they found philip’s body. Is that what you’re saying?

Belle: No, no. But in the eyes of the law, philip kiriakis is dead.

John: Kate and victor had philip legally declared dead?

Chloe: Yes, they did.

John: All right. I can understand kate being out for blood here, but brady is victor’s grandson. Why the hell would he agree to something like that?

Chloe: I don’t know. I can’t understand why victor does anything that he does.

John: I mean, come on. He would’ve had to understand that she would use that against brady here. What the hell’s the matter with all them?

Chloe: John, it’s okay. Just try to stay calm, all right?

John: Calm down? How do you do that? My son was just arrested for murder, and my wife is running around out there with the damn devil in her.

Kate: I’ve had it with your cryptic riddles. Just tell me how you got him away from the pub without anyone seeing you.

Philip: See? You are interested in my story.

[Dramatic music]

Cheating bitch. Luckily for me, once I took brady down, it was just a matter of dragging that heavy carcass into the bushes.

Kate: You’re proud of yourself, aren’t you?

Philip: Hang on, hang on. I’m just getting to the good part.

While brady was lying there like a sack of old clothes, I fished his credit card out of his wallet. Then I went into the pub and charged a bunch of shots in brady’s name.

Kate: Okay. Wait, wait, wait, wait. The police said that brady had three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

Philip: Awfully high, right?

Kate: Yeah. Okay. So how did you manage that if you bought the alcohol that he supposedly got drunk on?

Philip: Oh, that was the easy part. I couldn’t exactly pour the liquor down his throat. So I cut out the middle man and injected the booze right into his system.

Kate: You could have killed him, philip.

Philip: That was a risk I was willing to take. People everywhere living with type 2 diabetes

Xander: Just to be clear, you’re saying you and sarah haven’t been together since you left.

Rex: What are you not getting about this? We were never together.

Xander: Just doesn’t make any sense.

Gwen: Xander, can we please go now?

Xander: Gwen, please wait.

Rex: Oh, look, it’s been real special reconnecting with you, sharing notes about how sarah dumped us both, but I really have to go. From the looks of things, so do you. So gwen, pleasure to meet you.

Gwen: Yeah, you too.

Xander: And I guess enjoy your trip.

Gwen: Right, well, now that that’s over, we really–

Xander: Rex, wait!

Gwen: What are you doing?

Xander: Rex, if sarah is not with you, then where the hell is she?

[Dramatic music]

Brady: So my grandfather sold me out. Can’t say I’m surprised.

Belle: I’m sure kate was the driving force.

Brady: Mm-hmm. That would explain why trask felt she had enough to arrest me.

Belle: Oh, that woman will do anything to get a conviction.

Brady: I know. So tell me, how do we avoid having me as another notch on her belt?

Belle: Well, I think we have to go through all the facts again. So let me just make sure I have this right. The very last thing you remember before waking up in the hospital is being at the pub, picking up lunch for dad.

Brady: Yeah, I was talking to chloe, ended my conversation with chloe. She walked away. I got a phone call, and then it’s blank. It’s blank. I started to feel like I was regaining some memories when I was down at the river with chloe earlier, but that was when trask showed up and arrested me.

Belle: Well, was it anything solid? Is it anything that would help your case?

Brady: No, it was sketchy. Belle, it was just voices, honestly.

Belle: Voices?

Brady: Yeah.

Belle: Yeah, well, trask is already trying to paint you as a rage-filled drunk. So I don’t think voices are gonna help.

Brady: I don’t think so either. I wish– I wish I had more to offer.

Belle: No, me too. We really need something concrete to help discredit all of the circumstantial evidence they have.

Brady: What, like, we need an eyewitness outside of the pub, right? Something like that?

Belle: Maybe we have a witness.

Brady: No, belle, who? There was nobody there that I remember.

Belle: No, not who, what. The pub has a security camera out front. Maybe it caught what happened to you after you blacked out.

Kate: You didn’t care if you killed brady.

Philip: I mean, I wasn’t trying to kill him. But don’t you see? I had to inject him with that booze. I needed him to be drunk enough to start sending those awful threatening text messages.

[Dramatic music]

I started to write angry, threatening texts from brady to me. And some of those messages I sent, or rather he sent, the guy sounded like a murderous psycho, the kind of person who’d stab his own uncle.

Kate: I’m almost afraid to ask what you did next.

Philip: The next step was stuffing brady into the trunk of my car. I drove him to that special place chloe and I planted our tree. The one to renew our love. What a joke, right? She was leading me on the whole time. So I left brady’s watch there for her to find later.

Kate: You said brady destroyed that tree in a jealous rage.

Philip: It wasn’t easy to make chloe believe that. I have to say.

Kate: Because brady didn’t destroy that tree, you did.

Philip: You know me so well, mother.

John: Oh, everybody is always trying to take care of me. I appreciate it, chloe, but I don’t need water. I just need my family to be safe.

Chloe: I know. And I don’t think I can really help you with the marlena situation, but I could try to convince kate to withdraw her request.

John: [Laughs] And you think you’re the right person for the job? I mean, no offense, but that woman hates your guts.

Chloe: And the feeling is mutual, but we both care about philip, and we wanna see whoever did this to philip be brought to justice.

John: And you don’t think that there is a possibility brady might have done it?

Chloe: In my heart, I think that he’s innocent.

John: So do I. I just wanted to hear you say it, chloe.

Chloe: And I’m not sure I can convince kate of that, but I’m gonna try.

John: My boy is lucky to have you in his corner.

Chloe: And brady’s been there for me so many times that I owe it him. He and philip. So I’m gonna pray for you and good luck to you, marlena. Okay?

John: Thank you. I’m gonna give my partner a call here and see if he’s got any word on her.

Chloe: Okay, good luck.

John: Thanks for stopping by, chloe.

Chloe: Thank you.

[Line ringing]

John: Come on, partner, pick it up.

Steve: This is steve johnson. Leave a message.

John: Well, better try kayla, again.

Kayla: Why are you here? What do you want with me?

Demon marlena: You know, ever since I came back to salem, you have been a thorn in my side. You, your ridiculous husband, your annoying nephew, and his oh so bothersome wife.

Kayla: Belle is marlena’s daughter, and she loves her with all her heart.

Demon marlena: Blah, blah, blah. I should have killed the lot of you when I figured out that you were trying to challenge my plans for john black and doug williams.

Kayla: John defeated you before, he’ll do it again.

Demon marlena: John is not as strong as he used to be. And I have become so much stronger.

Kayla: But he is not alone in the fight. I will not let you kill the people that I love.

Demon marlena: I’m not going to kill anybody. Yet. But I am gonna put shawn and belle through a fate worse than death. And you, my darling kayla, are gonna be the key to helping me do that.

Kayla: I won’t do anything to help you.

[Phone rings]

Demon marlena: Now you’ve really made me angry.

Kate: Honestly, I just cannot believe that you would go this far to punish brady.

Philip: Like mother, like son.

Kate: The hell that’s supposed to mean?

Philip: What the hell does that mean? Should I call vivian to ask her how far you’ve gone in the name of vengeance?

Kate: Vivian is a monster.

Philip: What about jake and gabi? Wasn’t that long ago you were pretending to be blind to punish them for their betrayal?

Kate: Okay, not the same.

Philip: Why not?

Kate: Because I caused jake to lose his job at dimera. I didn’t frame a family member for murder by drugging them.

Philip: Damn it, mom. Why– why do you and dad always take everyone else’s side? Did I make a mistake in thinking I could trust you?

Kate: No, no, philip, no. I’m sorry. It’s okay. Just finish your story, okay? It’s okay.

Philip: Thank you. Now, where was I? Oh, yeah, so after chloe left, that’s when I dragged brady’s body to the riverside. I couldn’t get the image of them together out of my head. Kissing, laughing at me. So I took out the knife, and I cut myself with it.

Kate: You cut yourself?

Philip: I had to. It was the only way that I could get chloe and the police to believe that brady had murdered me. So I opened up a nice little gusher, and I smeared the blood all over the knife and all over brady. And I carefully tracked blood down to the riverside, threw my prosthetic leg into the middle of the river. Luckily for me, I kept my old one when I got my replacement a few years ago. Pretty brilliant, huh?

[Dramatic music]

Belle: Hey, you!

Rex: Belle, hi.

Belle: I heard you were back in town.

Rex: It’s so good to see you.

Belle: Yeah, you too. Hey, I’m really sorry about everything that’s going on with philip.

Rex: Oh, man. Thank you. Yeah. And I hear that you’re defending brady.

Belle: Yeah, I am. Actually, that’s why I’m here. I wanted to talk to your dad about checking out the surveillance footage from the night philip disappeared.

Rex: Yeah, um, my dad isn’t here.

Belle: Oh. Well, do you think you could help me find it?

Rex: Belle, I don’t know how he feels about– I mean, look, philip is my brother, and you’re defending the guy who might have killed him.

Belle: First of all, brady didn’t kill anyone. And it’s because philip is your brother that you should wanna help me find out what happened to him.

Xander: I don’t understand any of this. Everything I thought I knew about why sarah left is a lie.

Gwen: Well, I-I suppose– well, I suppose, in the end, she just decided she wanted to be on her own.

Xander: Okay, I mean, I get why she’d lie to me, but what about her mother? Why text maggie pretending that she’s off with rex at doctors without borders and that they’re happy?

Gwen: Xander, are you sure that maggie wasn’t just playing along? You know, maybe she’s just trying to protect her daughter.

Xander: There’s no way she was acting, gwen. Maggie believed that sarah was with rex, just like I did.

Gwen: Well, I’m sure that there is a logical explanation for all of this.

Xander: I have to go talk to maggie.

Gwen: I don’t think that we should worry her unnecessarily.

Xander: Her daughter’s been lying about her whereabouts. Something could be really wrong.

Gwen: We don’t know that do, do we? But what I do know is that if we do not go to the airport now, we will not make it in time to london for the holidays.

Xander: Are you joking?

Gwen: Joking about what?

Xander: I can’t possibly leave now, gwen. I have to find sarah and talk to her directly.

Gwen: Are you really–

Xander: She lied to me about where she’s been, about where she went. I have to find out why. Hi sabrina!

Brady: Come on, man. You gotta tr– you gotta try to remember what happened. Phil, get your hands off me. Think. Think. Think. Come on, think. Hey, did you talk to roman?

Belle: Uh, he wasn’t there, so rex checked the security footage.

Brady: And?

Belle: Someone erased it.

[Dramatic music]

Kate: Okay. You know, the part that I really cannot wrap my head around is that you’ve done all of this because of chloe.

Philip: I loved her, and she said she loved me too. But they made a fool of me, mom. Even you said you thought she and brady were sleeping together.

Kate: Okay, I said that because I was hoping that you would break it off with her, not do something crazy like this.

Philip: Well, she lied to me, okay? Over and over and over again. I watched them walk into the salem inn together. I overheard them talking about having sex in the basic black boardroom.

Chloe: Brady, seriously, I mean it. You cannot tell anybody what happened here last night. I mean–

Brady: I know what you mean. I know you’re referring to the sex that happened on the conference table. Okay, listen to me, I’m not gonna tell a soul about it. It’ll be our secret, okay?

Philip: She made him promise to never tell anyone about their secret sex romp. They had sex on the conference table. Do you know how humiliating that is?

Kate: Okay, look, I never said that you shouldn’t feel humiliated and betrayed. Never said that.

Philip: What about them? That they should just get to walk away from this? I mean, don’t you see, mom, they’re getting exactly what they deserve, and they’ll never know that I’m behind it.

Kate: What does that mean? What are you saying? Do you think– are you gonna stay dead forever?

Philip: For now.

Kate: [Sighs] I don’t think I can keep a secret like that, philip.

Philip: Of course, you can.

Kate: Your father deserves to know that you’re alive.

Philip: The hell with dad. He told chloe that I’m dead to him.

Kate: Okay. You know he doesn’t mean that. He always says things like that. Philip, come on. Come on, do you realize how many people love you? Do you realize how many people are mourning your death right now?

[Knocking on door]

Chloe: Hey, kate? Are you in there? I need to talk to you.

Philip: Don’t answer that.

John: Hey, kay, it’s john. Again, listen, I’m sorry I’m leaving so many messages here, but I’m getting kinda worried. I’m trying to track steve down to see if he’s got any word on marlena. So could you please call me back as soon as you get this? Thanks.

[Sighs]

Melinda: Detectives, nice to see you have time to sit and chat.

Eli: [Sighs] I just spoke with the dive team. No further evidence of philip at the site.

Melinda: While they do their job, I suggest you that you do yours.

Lani: Meaning?

Melinda: Arrest brady black.

Both: No.

Chloe: No, philip has not been found yet. And no, there’s no updates after they discovered his leg in the water. I know, it’s–mom, it’s just–it’s really hard not to assume the worst about brady, but– you’re right. You’re right. We don’t–we don’t know anything for sure. Gwen: [Sighs] God, of all the stupid luck, rex brady back in town.

[Sighs] Come on, xander, how long does it take you to go get a newspaper? And why can’t you read it on a tablet like everyone else?

[Sighs] The last thing I need is you running into rex and finding out that sarah’s not with him. Please tell me you didn’t get a craving for the brady pub chowder. Oh, my god. Is that…rex? Bloody hell, how’s he right downstairs?

Maggie: Darling, hi. Cook is making you a rib eye steak for dinner, potatoes au gratin, a caesar salad to start, and chocolate mousse to finish. All of your favorites.

I know how hard this is for you, victor.

Victor: I can’t lose him, maggie. Dear god, if I do…

Maggie: Shh. Don’t think that way. We have to have hope. I know I do.

Victor: So do I. But he can’t be dead. He can’t be. I have to see him again. I have to tell him how sorry I am for the way I treated him.

Kate: [Sighs] That son of a bitch. I swear I could kill him. I swear I could.

Rex: Mom, if you’re talking about brady–

Kate: Well, who the hell else would I be talking about, you know? Plus, I told him to his face–i told him that if philip is dead, he’s dead too.

Roman: All right, whoa. You threatened brady? When?

Kate: This morning.

Roman: [Scoffs] You said you wanted to be alone.

Kate: Yes, well, I lied, and I snuck off to the hospital, and I confronted that bastard.

Rex: Mom, I-I know you’re upset, and that’s understandable, but there is no proof that brady did anything to philip.

Kate: Okay, there’s proof enough for me, okay? There’s proof enough to me, so don’t give me that condescending look, please. Please, don’t do that. And please, don’t tell me to calm down as well.

Rex: I didn’t tell you to calm down.

Kate: Okay, ’cause if I want to be crazy with worry, I’m gonna be crazy with worry. And if I’m going to be frightened and panicked, that’s what I’m gonna be. And don’t try to placate me!

Rex: Okay, okay, fine. I won’t do that, and I’m sorry.

Kate: [Sighs] No, I’m sorry. I’m sorry.

[Sighs] It’s just that philip has always been so hard on himself, and victor has always made him seem like he’s a huge disappointment, and I have been complicit in all of that.

Rex: No, no, no, no, no. Mom, no–

Kate: Yes, I have, rex. I have. I have. I’ve been critical of him. And now all I can hope is that he knows how much I love him, he knows that I love him for his strength and for his resilience and–[Sighs] And the fact that I just melt– I melt when he smiles.

Roman: Hey, of course he knows that.

Kate: [Sighs] And of course he’s gonna come back to us, right? They’re gonna find him, and he’s gonna be safe and sound, and then we can all see that beautiful smile again, right?

Xander: Gwen, how can who be right downstairs?

Gwen: The–the guy, the guy at the, um– at the coffee cart down there. Yeah, the man, he wolf whistles at me. I mean, last week, he even said to me that I have a nice ass.

Xander: What? Well, he’s not wrong, but the nerve. I’m gonna sort him out right now.

Gwen: No, no, no, xander, don’t do that.

Xander: Why not?

Gwen: Because what if he– what if he phones the police? You can’t get into trouble with the law again.

Xander: I’m not gonna beat him to death. I’m just gonna make sure he understands that he can’t wolf-whistle my girl or make comments about her beautiful body.

Gwen: Oh. No, no, just–just–just forget it, yeah, please?

Xander: You’re really upset about this.

Gwen: Yeah, well, you know, we finally have a chance for things to be really good between us, and…I really don’t want to mess it up. I–[Sighs] I don’t want anyone to take you away from me.

[Dramatic music]

Gwen: Okay, so you’ll leave it alone, then, yeah?

Xander: I will. But I am a bit peckish. What do you say we head out and get a bite to eat? It’s my 4:05 the-show-must-go-on

Chloe: Brady, hey.

Chloe: Aren’t you supposed to be in the hospital?

Brady: I was discharged an hour ago.

Chloe: And you decided to come to work?

Brady: Well, I figured I-I had to. It’s the only way that I could–I could see you. You’re not taking my calls, chloe.

Chloe: I’m sorry I ignored your call. I was just–I went down to the police station, and I ran into kate, who totally went off on me and said that whatever’s happened to philip is my fault because I pitted you two against each other.

Brady: Okay, okay, that’s not true, obviously. Kate is angry. She’s upset. I mean, who can blame her, right?

Chloe: How are you doing with all this?

Brady: [Sighs] Well, chloe, I-I have to make a confession to you. That’s why I needed to talk to you.

Chloe: Brady?

Brady: No, no, no, not that. Not that.

Chloe: Oh, thank god. Then what?

Brady: It has to do with something belle found out this morning about my credit card. Apparently, the night that you found me, I had bought six shots of whiskey.

Melinda: “No”? Are you refusing a direct order, detectives?

Eli: Technically, we report to rafe.

Lani: And with no proof that philip kiriakis is dead, we have no probable cause to arrest brady.

Melinda: We all know it’s just a matter of time before the dive team finds philip’s body. And since mr. Black was just released from the hospital, we need to make our move before he tries to flee the jurisdiction.

Eli: Which we can’t do without hard evidence.

Melinda: We have an artificial limb that was dredged up from the river, among other things.

Lani: That doesn’t mean philip was murdered.

Melinda: I should have known the two of you wouldn’t cooperate. But, then, you are kristen dimera’s bff, so why am I surprised?

Eli: You know, lani’s just following protocol, okay?

Melinda: Yeah, you weren’t too concerned with protocol when you tried to help her escape last year, were you? I don’t know, maybe you had something to do with her van detouring on the way to statesville the other day. So don’t preach to me about protocol.

Eli: We’re just going by the book.

Melinda: Then do something useful. Check in with the divers and see if they’ve found any new evidence.

Eli: I just told you that I spoke to the divers–

Melinda: Then speak to them again! Or are you no longer in the business of solving cases?

[Tense music]

[Scoffs] God.

Kate: To tell you the truth, I just don’t understand why they don’t charge brady with suspicion of murder.

Roman: Doesn’t work that way, kate. You know that.

Kate: [Sighs]

[Cell phone rings] Hello.

Melinda: Ms. Dimera, it’s da trask.

Kate: Yes, da trask. Is this about philip?

Melinda: I’m afraid I don’t have anything new to report, but I do have something I want to discuss with you. Do you have time to stop by the station again?

Kate: Yes, yes, of course I do. I’ll come by now.

Melinda: Good. I’ll see you soon.

Kate: Yeah, see you soon.

Rex: Well, does she have news about philip?

Kate: No, no, but she wants to talk to me about the case, so I’m going to go down to the station now.

Rex: Okay, well, we can take you.

Kate: No, no, I’ll be fine. I can go alone.

Roman: Okay. You will call if you need us?

Kate: Of course I will.

Roman: All right.

[Soft holiday music playing]

Victor: I’m done sitting around.

Maggie: Well, who are you calling?

Victor: Rafe hernandez. I figure if I can light a fire under his ass, maybe we’ll get some answers.

Maggie: [Laughs]

[Cell phone ringing]

Victor: Oh, speak of the devil.

Maggie: Is it rafe?

Victor: No, better. Melinda trask.

Maggie: Oh.

Victor: Da trask, I hope you have some good news for me.

Melinda: I’m afraid I don’t have any news. But if you have time to come by the station, I think I can make some progress on the case.

Victor: I’ll be right there.

Maggie: You’ll be where?

Victor: She wants me to come down to the station.

Maggie: Well, does she have any news about philip?

Victor: No, but she said she has a plan, and that could be a start.

Maggie: Well, I’ll go get my purse.

Victor: Maggie, if you don’t mind, I’d like to handle this alone.

Maggie: You don’t want me to go with you?

Victor: Well… I’d like for you to go to st. Luke’s and say a prayer for philip. I have a feeling that he’d listen to you rather than me.

Maggie: I can do that. I can do that, darling.

Gwen: You want–you want to go out? It’s a bit early for dinner, isn’t it?

Xander: Man cannot live by granola bars alone.

Gwen: Why don’t we order room service? You love that delicious fried chicken in here, don’t you?

Xander: Let me see. We’ve been holed up in this room all day.

Xander: And I’d like to go out again, please.

Gwen: Oh, wow, what a romantic thing to say.

Xander: Let me try this, then. You are beautiful and wonderful, and I can’t get enough of you.

Gwen: Oh. Where are you going?

Xander: To shower. Join me?

Gwen: In a minute.

Xander: I’ll be waiting. Oh, and don’t worry. You have given me reason to never want to leave this room again.

[Shower running]

[Tense music]

Gwen: Come on, rex, just choke down the bloody coffee and get out of there. You can’t stay in this town forever. Or can you? It’s not like I can keep xander locked away in this tiny room forever either or away from the pub’s blasted fish and chips. And then he might run into you, rex, and then what? Find out that sarah didn’t really run away with you. And then it’ll just be a hop, skip, and a jump away before xander learns that sarah’s stranded on a deserted island, and he’ll go sail the seven seas to go and find her. I won’t let that happen. I won’t lose you. I can’T. So I’ll just have to find a way to make sure that xander never finds out the truth.

Rex: I did not want to say this in front of mom, but…after finding philip’s prosthetic leg and all that blood all over brady, I just– it doesn’t look good, does it?

Roman: I have another theory.

Rex: Let’s hear it.

Roman: Philip has always been one to go his own way. So whatever may or may not have happened between him and chloe and brady, he’s also dealing with victor firing him from titan and not for the first time. So I’M… I’m thinking that had to be a huge blow. So maybe philip figured a way to disappear for a while, buy some time, clear his head, figure things out.

Rex: Or he fell into the river after brady attacked him, and he got swept away by the current.

Roman: That is certainly a possibility, but… I’m not going there yet.

Rex: I admire your faith, dad; I wish I had it. But look, I… I just think it’s doubtful that philip is going to be found alive again.

Chloe: So the night that philip disappeared, you drank six shots?

Brady: Oh, no, no, I bought them. I bought them. Belle checked my credit card receipt, and it was there in black and white. Chloe, I don’t remember buying them. I sure as hell don’t remember drinking them. That–and look, I know that doesn’t mean I didn’t do it. And I know you have your doubts about my behavior–

Chloe: Brady.

Brady: No, hey, hey, I understand. You have seen me at my worst. You were there. That is why I don’t want to hide one single damn thing from you. And that’s why I have something else I got to tell you, chloe.

[Dramatic music]

Kate: Victor.

Victor: You got a call from trask too?

Kate: So did she tell you what’s going on?

Victor: No, just that it has something to do with philip’s case.

Melinda: Good. I’m glad you’re both here.

Kate: [Sighs] Did you find philip’s body?

Melinda: As I mentioned on the phone, we’ve no new evidence since the divers recovered your son’s prosthesis. And though I’m obviously not able to arrest someone for murder based solely on an artificial limb, if I have proof of death, the man responsible could be cuffed within the hour. Which is why I need you both to sign this.

Xander: I was starting to prune waiting for you to join me.

Gwen: Okay.

Xander: Well, you know I’d love to whisk you away to the tropical paradise of our dreams, but we do still have that pesky lack-of-funds problem.

Gwen: Solved.

Xander: What, you found us a big bag of cash?

Gwen: I found us a free place to stay.

Xander: Tell me more.

Gwen: Okay. A return to the mother country.

Xander: What, britain?

Gwen: London. Okay, I have a friend there, yeah, and she’s got this amazing, huge, lovely flat with a lovely guest room, and she said that I’m welcome to come there anytime. And I have a load of miles that are about to expire, so I can get us two round-trip tickets to heathrow.

Xander: Yeah, I mean, that definitely solves the limited-funds issue. But do you really want to go to london right now? I mean, it’s not exactly balmy this time of year, is it?

Gwen: Well, it’s certainly warmer than the midwest.

Xander: Where isn’t?

Gwen: Oh, come on, xander. Come on, the city, london, is so lovely this time of year. It’s magical with borough market and the shops and the decorations and the eating hall at selfridges.

Xander: Now I’m hungry again.

Gwen: We can maybe go to a showing of “a christmas carol” at the old vic, and then we can watch fireworks together on the thames on new year’s eve?

Xander: I don’t know. We’re getting pretty good at making our own fireworks right here.

Gwen: Well, we can make our own fireworks in london, yeah? Variety being the spice of life. Come on.

Xander: Well, when you put it that way, how can I possibly say no?

Gwen: You can’T.

Victor: What the hell is this?

Melinda: As philip’s next of kin, you have the right to have him declared legally dead.

Kate: But you just said that you haven’t found his body.

Melinda: That is true. And while I know that you both have every hope that philip will be found alive, the truth is, with every minute that passes, that hope diminishes, and unfortunately, the case grows colder, and the murderer could get away. But by declaring philip dead, no matter how painful that may be, you give me the power to prosecute the man responsible.

Victor: And you believe that person to be brady?

Melinda: Every bit of evidence points to him. We have his threatening text messages on philip’s phone. He was found by the river soaked in philip’s blood next to a knife with his prints on it. And now, in that same river, philip’s prosthesis was found. If I were a betting woman, this would be an easy gamble. But like I said, without a body, it’s not enough to make an arrest. Which is why I urge you to sign that document. As soon as you declare philip dead, I can arrest the man who killed him, and you can have the justice that you deserve.

[Dramatic music]

Brady: Sit. About a week ago, I went– I went into a bar.

Chloe: You went to a bar?

Brady: I–yeah, I even ordered a drink. But I stared at it, chloe. I just looked at it. I even called maggie up to come join me to make sure I didn’t down it. She came, like she always does– bless her heart–to support me. And she thought we should go to a meeting; I agreed. And that’s when I found out that my dad was in the hospital.

Chloe: Why? I mean, what made you so upset that you felt like you needed a drink?

Brady: You.

Chloe: Me?

Brady: Yeah. You, all these feelings that I have for you that I haven’t been able to act on because you’ve been with philip. I even told maggie, out of my frustration, that I would love if philip was out of the way.

Chloe: You–you didn’t–

Brady: I didn’t–i didn’t mean it like that. I mean, I think I didn’t mean it like–like that. I’m beginning to wonder, chloe. I could never imagine taking someone’s life. I wouldn’t do anything like– I wouldn’t do that. But now I’m–I don’t know. Did I see you and go off the deep end and walk into the pub and order those shots and go down to the river? I don’t even know what I did anymore.

Chloe: Brady, don’t–

Brady: I’m–

Chloe: Don’t torture yourself over something you can’t even remember.

Brady: [Sighs] I think there’s a way I can remember, though.

Chloe: What do you mean?

Brady: I need to go back down to the river.

[ Echoing ]

Chloe: You want to go back to the river?

Brady: Yeah.

Chloe: We discussed this. It’s a terrible idea. And belle agrees with that. There’s gonna be cops there with a dive team. What are they gonna think?

Brady: I don’t care. I don’t care what they think. A man’s missing. He could be–he could be dead, chloe, I don’t–and maybe I had something to do with it. The only way I’m gonna find out is to get my memory back. It’s the only way I’m gonna get answers about this. And that means I got to go back down to that damn river and hope to god that something makes me remember what happened that night. I’m going.

Chloe: Okay, well, you’re not going alone.

Brady: I don’t want you in the middle of this.

Chloe: I already am. I’m going too.

Brady: Even if you think I might be guilty in this?

Chloe: Well, like you said, maybe–maybe there’s something down at the river that will tell us what happened that night.

Brady: Okay. All right.

[Dramatic music]

Melinda: This is a big decision, an emotional one. I’ll give you a moment to discuss it.

Kate: Thank you.

Melinda: Yeah.

Kate: Finally, some action. What are you waiting for?

Victor: She said, “take a moment to discuss.” Let’s discuss.

Kate: What’s there to discuss? We want her to go after the person who hurt our son, right?

Victor: Yes, of course. It’s–it’s just that I’m not ready. I’m not ready to accept the fact that my son is dead.

Kate: You think that I am? I’ve been desperately trying to convince myself that philip is still alive, but all of the magical thinking in the world is not gonna change the fact that…

[Somber music]

My heart is broken. I know your heart is broken too, but we still have to accept the horrible reality that philip is probably at the bottom of the river and brady is the one who put him there. I want to see him behind bars now. Oh, god, victor, because it’s brady, right? Family? Grandson? How many times did brady turn his back on you? Do I have to remind you of that? Do I have to remind you that he was more than willing to let kristen get away with nearly killing you? Now you’re willing to let him get away with murdering our son? Brady doesn’t deserve your loyalty. Philip does. So stop regretting what you can’t change and sign the damn paper!

[Tense music]

Melinda: Detectives.

Lani: Before you ask, we talked to the dive team. They still haven’t found a body or anything else.

Melinda: No harm in being thorough.

Eli: Well, if you don’t mind, we have other leads we need to follow.

Melinda: Any as promising as brady black? I’ll take that as a no.

Lani: Is there any new information?

Melinda: Why don’t you stick around? Depending on what’s happening in that room, I might have something for you to do.

Rex: No one understands mom better than you, dad. Which is why I’m so happy that you two are back together again, especially now.

Roman: Well, you are there for her too, son, and I am grateful for that, as is she. As she said, we’re both very glad to have you home. Refill?

Rex: No, I’m kind of coffee’d out.

Roman: Okay.

Rex: Thanks.

Roman: Tell you what. Why don’t we go back to the pub, wait for your mom there? I’m sure I can rustle up a couple of bowls of chowder.

Rex: [Laughs] Now, yes, that sounds good. I just–I want to know what trask is about to tell mom.

Roman: Yeah.

Rex: Let’s go.

[Zipper scratching]

Xander: And we are packed. In record time.

Gwen: Yeah, if we leave now, we’ll make it just in time for our flight.

Xander: You coming?

Gwen: [Clears throat] Yeah, sorry, I was just checking to see if the coffee guy was still there.

Xander: Well, is he? I could still give him a piece of my mind.

Gwen: Not that I don’t appreciate your chivalry, but his shift must have ended. So yes, he’s gone.

Xander: So what are we waiting for?

Gwen: [Sighs] Absolutely nothing.

Xander: [Chuckles] Come on.

Gwen: Right.

[Both chuckle]

Chloe: [Sighs]

Brady: Is it–this is where you found me?

Chloe: Yeah. Right here. You were lying right here, and you were covered in blood, and there was a knife lying right there. You don’t remember me finding you here?

Brady: I don’t, no.

Chloe: And you don’t remember why you came down to the river and what happened once you were down here?

Brady: Philip!

Chloe: Brady, what’s going on? Hey, are you remembering something?

Xander: Yeah, I’m impressed with us, how quickly we packed.

Gwen: Yeah, well, whatever we forgot, we can always get there, right? Marks and sparks has good bargains.

Xander: Rex brady?

[Tense music]

Maggie: Oh, you’re home. Hi, darling. You got back sooner than I thought. Although I suppose I-I took a little longer than I expected. I said two rosaries for philip.

Victor: Maybe I should’ve had you say one for me as well.

[Dramatic music]

Maggie: Victor, what happened at the police station?

Kate: Hey.

Roman: So there you are. What–what happened with trask?

Kate: Well, she wanted victor and I to have philip declared legally dead.

Roman: What?

Kate: Yeah, she said it was the only way she was going to be able to arrest brady for his murder. Of course, victor was his usual stubborn self.

Victor: Kate wanted me to sign the paper so that trask could use it to go after brady. Now, I want justice for my son, but signing away my grandson’s life to get it?

Roman: So what happened? Did victor sign or not?

Maggie: Victor, what did you do?

Victor: God forgive me. I signed the damn paper.

Chloe: Brady, what is it? Do you remember something?

Brady: Philip, your hands off me. Yeah, I do. It’s fuzzy, but it’s right there. It’s right there.

Chloe: Okay, what? What is right there?

Brady: Oh, god, chloe, I was–

Melinda: Mr. Black, returning to the scene of the crime? Thanks for staying in plain view of our divers. Made tracking you down very easy.

Brady: What are you talking about?

Chloe: What’s going on here?

Melinda: Justice. Brady black, you’re under arrest for the murder of philip kiriakis.

Chloe: No, you can’t do that.

Brady: You’re arresting me?

Melinda: Oh, I sure can. Detective.

Eli: Sorry, man. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford one, one will be provided for you.

Kate: I mean, it’s not like I want to believe that philip’s dead. It’s just that I had to do it to move the investigation forward.

Roman: You did what you thought was the right thing to do.

Kate: Yeah. Well, at least I don’t feel so helpless anymore.

Roman: Yeah. Well, tell you what. Why don’t you take a break? You still haven’t eaten. Now, you want me to bring you up something?

Kate: [Sighs] No, I-I just want to be alone.

Roman: Okay. Well, you know where I am if you need me.

Kate: I do.

Allie: Yes, dad. And I also told her that she’d end up a lot happier if she just dumped ej and went back to you.

Lucas: Yeah. And what did she say?

Allie: [Sighs] Well, she mostly listened, but she said she does love you. And I know she’s going to think about what I said.

Lucas: Okay.

Allie: I mean, it seems like a no-brainer to me. She walked in on ej in bed with nicole, and then he threw her out of his house.

Lucas: Right, right, right. No surprise there.

Allie: [Sighs] Right. And don’t get your hopes up, but I think there’s a decent chance that she’s signing those divorce papers as we speak.

Ej: What are you doing here, samantha? Do I have to threaten to throw you out again?

Sami: Oh, don’t bother threatening anything. I’m not going anywhere.

Ej: Then I’ll have to inform security that there’s an intruder in the house.

Sami: You know exactly what kind of papers these are, ej. They are the divorce papers that you promised to serve me with while you were in bed with nicole. Aren’t you gonna take them? Ben: Dr. Evans is possessed by the devil for a second time?

Shawn: But you’re not marlena evans anymore, right? You’re satan himself.

John: [Grunts]

Marlena: Don’t listen to him, ben. John’s obviously gotten to him. But he hasn’t gotten to you. After the way your father treated you and your mother, you know never to trust an abuser.

Shawn: It’s all lies, ben. John has never laid a finger on marlena. That is the demon inside of her trying to get you to trust her. And marlena, marlena is my mother-in-law, and I love her. And if she told me that john were hitting her, I would believe her. But this? This is not her.

Lucas: The point is, look, when I first found out about ej and nicole, I thought, “yeah, this is it. Your mom is finally gonna give up on him.” But then I realized– I realized it was just wishful thinking. Listen, nobody knows your mom better than I do. And the fact that ej and nicole slept together is just gonna make her more determined to fight for her man.

Sami: Huh. Why were you clutching your wedding ring like it was something that was really important to you?

Ej: I found it in my sock drawer. I was about to throw it in the trash before you barged in.

Sami: Hmm. But you didn’t want to throw it away in front of me or anything?

Ej: I didn’t want to give you the wrong idea.

Ej: Weren’t you about to hand me divorce papers? Thank god you finally came to your senses, hmm? These aren’t signed. Let me get you a pen.

Belle: Why is my mom at the cabin?

Ciara: Ben and I took her there.

Ciara: Well, because she showed up here on thanksgiving and she was being really frantic.

Belle: And that was on thanksgiving?

Ciara: Right. And, belle, she told us that john had been knocking her around and that she needed a safe place to go and hide.

Belle: My father would never, ever lay a hand on my mom.

Ciara: Right, right. But she said that it all started happening after john’s aneurysm, that his personality completely changed after that.

Belle: Wow. Well, she thinks of everything.

Ciara: We had no idea what was going on with her.

Belle: Do you now?

Ciara: Yeah. Yeah, shawn told me that she’s possessed by the devil.

Belle: Good. Well, I wasn’t sure how to break the news to you. So I’m glad he did.

Ciara: It’s really freaking me out, belle.

Belle: Yeah, me too. Believe me.

Ciara: And, you know, even when I didn’t know, I still had a really, really hard time believing that john would ever, ever hurt her. But then he came here. He showed up, and he was acting like a crazy person. He started pounding on the door. He started screaming like a maniac.

Belle: Yeah, I guess if she can turn susan banks into a cat…

Ciara: She did what?

Belle: Yeah, she can turn herself into my father to make you buy her story.

Ciara: Ben still doesn’t know. And I left him alone with her, belle.

Belle: Okay, maybe she wants to keep him thinking that she’s marlena. You know, she probably figures that ben will help her if she plays the victim.

Ciara: Mm-hmm. Yeah. No, that’s why–that’s why we took her to the cabin in the first place. But then she started getting really weird.

Belle: Weird how?

Ciara: Like, I told her that I had an appointment with my obstetrician, and she wouldn’t let me leave. I ended up sneaking out without telling ben or marlena.

Belle: Okay, good, good. You did the right thing. Oh, my god. I can’t believe I’m telling you you did the right thing by escaping my mom. Some thanksgiving, huh? Instead of eating turkey and watching football, we’re finding out that my mom is possessed again. Anyway, they have a apb out on her. I just don’t know what good that’s gonna do.

Ciara: I’m so sorry that shawn went there alone. You must be so scared. I wanted to go with him. I insisted to go with him, but he would not let me.

Belle: You’re pregnant, and he would want you to be safe.

Ben: Susan banks told ciara and me that our baby was in danger, and we thought she was off her rocker, but it was you.

Demon marlena: A brain cell has been detected.

Ben: Dr. Evans convinced us that if we had this baby, everything was gonna be all right, but that was you.

Demon marlena: Absolutely right again.

Ben: And you did that because you want our baby?

Demon marlena: I’m so glad you asked. This baby will be a perfect combination of brady goodness and weston evil. And I can corrupt that child to my black heart’s desire.

Belle: Oh, my god. So that’s why my mom was so excited when she found out you were pregnant.

Ciara: I am so scared. I’m terrified. And I have no idea what to do. What do I do? I can’t stay locked in here forever, belle.

Belle: Ciara, we know the truth now, and we’ll protect you. I’m gonna call shawn right now, actually.

[Phone beeps, line trilling]

Ciara: [Sniffles] Oh, god.

[Line beeps]

Belle: Straight to voice mail.

Ciara: Yeah, there’s not really much service up there.

Belle: Right. Well, I need to go up there in person, then.

Ciara: No. No, belle, you can’T.

Allie: If I found my husband in bed with another woman, I mean, I’d leave, and I’d never look back.

Lucas: Good, good. That’s exactly how I want you to act. But you’re my mom– she’s wired different, especially when it comes to ej. So she blames nicole and i for breaking up her marriage and not him.

Allie: Because of kristen’s letter?

Lucas: Yeah, yeah.

Allie: That’s so stupid.

Lucas: I know. Because she tried to burn it, and I’m the one who took it out of the fireplace.

Allie: Okay, yeah, but you threw it out. I mean, it’s not your fault that uncle philip gave it to nicole. Is there any word on him, by the way–uncle philip?

Lucas: No, no, he’s still missing.

Allie: And they think brady had something to do with it?

Lucas: Yeah, I guess.

Allie: Why?

Lucas: I don’t know. All I know is, is I was mad at my brother for interfering with my life. Now I might not see him ever again. My brother might be gone forever.

Nicole: Rafe was just telling me about philip’s disappearance. And I told him you should know.

Ava: Oh, why?

Nicole: Well, because you and philip are friends.

Ava: Well, I wouldn’t exactly call us friends. Business associates maybe. I already know about philip. Looks bad. I feel very sorry for his family, but, you know, working with philip, it turned out to be a terrible mistake. And I learned my lesson, and I already told rafe that I have put that life behind me for good.

Nicole: And rafe chose to stand by you.

Ava: Mm-hmm.

Nicole: And I think that’s wonderful. I mean it. I am so glad the two of you worked things out.

Ava: Oh. You’re such a good friend, nicole. I honestly don’t know what I’d do without you.

Ej: There’s a host of other reasons.

Sami: Like what? She’s not smarter than me. She’s not better-looking than me, and she certainly isn’t more loyal than me.

Ej: She’s better in bed.

Sami: You did not just say that.

Ej: You’re the one who forced the issue. And it’s true… hotter, more experimental.

Rafe: Yeah.

Ava: Oh, it’s not a surprise. I mean, for a not-so-small town, salem is kind of incestuous.

Ava: What was that all about?

[Dramatic music]

Sami: Well?

Ej: I’m sorry. I don’t feel a thing.

Sami: Oh, ej… your mouth can say whatever you want it to, ’cause your body is saying something else.

Lucas: Listen, my brother is missing, possibly dead. And either your grandmother is losing her grip on reality, or she’s really possessed by the devil. But either way, this is not the time to be worried about my love life, okay?

Allie: It seems like the perfect time to be focusing on whatever makes you happy. There’s nothing either one of us can do for uncle philip or grandma.

Lucas: Well, the one I feel sorriest for is john. I mean, he is so determined to find marlena, but what’s he gonna do when he finds her? I mean, what can he do?

Allie: Well, you said that he was the one who ended this last time. Maybe he can do it again.

Lucas: Yeah. I guess we can hope. All you and I can do is hope and pray.

Belle: I can’t just sit here, ciara.

Ciara: No, belle, it is bad enough that marlena can do something horrible to hurt ben or to hurt shawn. But shawn is a cop, okay? He has a gun. He can protect himself. Ben can protect himself. How are you gonna protect yourself, belle?

Belle: Ciara, you know, my dad keeps saying that love is the thing that can conquer evil. And I am my mother’s daughter, okay? That is the weapon that I have that shawn and ben don’t, and it’s time for me to use it.

Ciara: Okay, well, then I’m going with you.

Belle: No, that’s crazy.

Ciara: No, it’s not. It’s not crazy. I am the only person that the devil can’t hurt. I am carrying the baby that he wants.

Belle: You promised shawn you’d stay.

Ciara: No, I know I promised, but–

Ben: I’ll never let you anywhere near ciara or our baby.

Demon marlena: [Laughs] You already have, you fool. Do you think you have any say in what happens next?

Ben: You already told me yourself that I’m evil. Maybe that’s what it takes to get to you.

Ej: Are you saying I deserved what you did?

Allie: I pray every night for uncle philip and grandma. And I pray that mom comes back to you.

Lucas: I had no idea it was so important to you.

Allie: Look, mom and I have had our moments, like, every day of my life. But I had a front-row seat of the way ej treated her. I mean, he was pretty much a vegetable when she took him to italy, and you’ve seen him lately. I mean, she did all of that for him.

Lucas: Yeah, I know. I still don’t understand how he could treat her so badly.

Allie: Everything changed once he started getting a lot better. Like, if mom would tell him to take his meds or lie down, he would just tell her to mind her own business. It was like nothing that she ever did was right.

Lucas: Yeah, that’s what she told me.

Allie: She was so alone and miserable. And that’s why, like, her flipping out on you about the stupid letter, it’s just ridiculous. I don’t know why she holds you to such a different standard.

Lucas: Well, she always has.

Allie: [Sighs] And now I know that the day that ej kicked mom out of the mansion is the day that she got kidnapped. Obviously, mom was reaching when she pinned it on nicole, but what about ej?

Lucas: Yeah, what about him?

Allie: Think, dad. I mean, how do we know it wasn’t him?

Lucas: Well, I mean, I don’t know. Um, he said that it was over between them, and he kicked her out of the house. So why would he do that?

Allie: Do the wisconsin cops have any leads at all?

Lucas: Well, your mom was so hot to get back to ej that she didn’t want to go to the local police and make a statement.

Allie: Okay, well, did you make a statement? I mean, you saw one of those goons. You saw where they were keeping her.

Lucas: Yeah. I mean, I told the police. You know, they said they were gonna look into it and stuff. But I guess, because, you know, your mom wasn’t hurt that badly and she even came back to salem that they just lost interest in the case.

Allie: She was kidnapped, and nobody knows why. I mean, they could try this again, and this time mom– mom could get hurt.

Lucas: Listen, you know, a lot has happened in the last 24 hours. You know, I haven’t even had time to think.

Allie: Whoever ordered this kidnapping needs to get caught, dad. They need to pay.

John: Sweetheart! I know that you’re in there, and I know that you can hear me! And you know that I–

[Chokes] I can’t breathe.

Demon marlena: I think my work here is done. Time to be moving on.

[Suspenseful music]

Ava: Yeah, and that was years ago. And, you know, they’ve both been through a lot. Maybe they’re both older and wiser.

Rafe: No, no. Ej is gonna be a disaster for nicole.

Ava: I think they seem like a great couple.

Rafe: Do you have any idea the things that he has done?

Ava: How much do you know about what I have done? You talk about how you believe that people can change. And it sounds like you mean it, but do you? Are you just telling me what you think I want to hear?

Shawn: He’s gonna be a lot better once we get him untied.

Ben: No, she won’T. She got away. I know where she’s headed.

Ciara: Oh, my–my god, I’m still wearing this thing. You said it would protect me. You said it would keep me and my baby safe.

[Sobs softly, sighs] Mm.

Ben: She’s after ciara. I’m gonna get there first.

Belle: Oh, my god. Can things get any worse?

John: Oh, yeah.

Shawn: She’s on the loose again. Does scrubbing feel like a workout?

Rafe: Yeah, I think people can change. Look at gabi.

Ava: This is the new and improved gabi? ‘Cause you certainly wouldn’t know it by how she treats me.

Rafe: Okay, that was a bad example.

Ava: If you were having second thoughts about us, you’d tell me, right?

Rafe: Well, yeah. Why are you even asking me that?

Ava: Oh, no reason. It just–it just occurred to me.

Nicole: So you’re drawing up new divorce papers. Is that why sami’s been going so crazy?

Ej: What do you mean?

Nicole: [Sighs] Well, I mean, she showed up to my apartment with fire in her eyes ready to rip me from limb to limb. And allie showed up, and she didn’t even care. I mean, thank goodness I got holly off to school.

Ej: Samantha’s deluded. She’s insisting that there’s still a chance between the two of us.

Nicole: Ej, that doesn’t surprise me.

Ej: She’s wasting her time. I found the woman I want… the one that’s perfect for me right now.

Nicole: It’s funny you should say that. I was just thinking the same thing.

[Chuckles]

[Dramatic music]

Allie: Hey.

Sami: Hey.

Allie: Uh, if you’re here for a round two with nicole, she’s not home.

Sami: Yeah. No, I’m not here for that. Belle left me a message, but she must have been in her car ’cause I could only hear, like, two words, but I think it was about my mom. Have you heard anything?

Allie: No, sorry, but come on in.

Sami: Oh, thank you. What are you doing here?

Lucas: Uh, visiting my daughter and my grandson. I’m allowed to do that, right?

Sami: [Scoffs] Of course you are.

Allie: So did you go see ej?

Sami: Yes, I did.

Allie: And?

Lucas: And?

Sami: Okay, look, I tore up the divorce papers that he served me with, and I’m not gonna sign them, not now, not ever. I’m sorry you don’t want to hear that, lucas, but I’m not giving up on ej.

Lucas: No, it’s fine. It’s fine. You do you. But just so you know, I’m not giving up on you either.

Sami: [Chuckles]

[Keys jingling, lock rattling]

Ciara: Who’s there?

Ben: Baby, it’s me.

Ciara: You stay the hell away from me.

Ben: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Baby, it’s me. I swear to god. You can put the bat down.

Ciara: How do I know that it’s really you. I mean, she turned susan into a cat.

Ben: Ciara… I would not hurt you in a million years. I love you so much.

[Bat clatters]

[Sighs]

Ciara: Oh, god.

Ben: Oh, thank god you’re okay.

Ciara: Honey, I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry I left without telling you. I’ve been so scared.

Ben: It’s okay. It’s okay. I’m glad you ran away. I’m glad you ran away, because I know everything now. And I should have listened to you from the beginning.

Ciara: How did you get away? Is shawn okay?

Ben: Yes. So are belle and john.

Ciara: Wait, john was there?

Ben: He got there right after you left. I got away because dr. Evans… the devil took off. And I thought she was headed straight here.

[Sighs]

Ciara: I’m really happy that you got here first.

Ben: Baby, I don’t know how to tell you this, but…

Ciara: I know. The devil wants our baby. I know. Shawn told me.

Ben: I’m just as scared as you are. But at least we’re together now. And I promise you I will not let anything happen to you or our kid, okay? We’re gonna make our way through this, okay? We’re gonna make our way through this, I swear. I swear to you.

Ciara: Okay.

John: Thanks.

Belle: Are you okay, dad? You just got out of the hospital.

John: Yeah, I’m fine.

Shawn: If you hadn’t gotten here when you did, she might have finished us all off. John, what made you show up here?

John: You said the last time you talked to your sister was thanksgiving. So I figured marlena probably got to see her, and the most logical place to start looking was right here. I thought that I could get through to your mother, but that damn demon sure shut me up in a hurry.

Shawn: And now we’ve lost her.

Belle: How are we ever gonna stop her?

Demon marlena: I should’ve dealt with belle long ago. Now it’s time she and her cop husband pay a heavy price. And I think I know exactly how to make that happen.
