Chloe: Look, I know it’s a lot to read, but I added 178 pages of documentation that would answer every question the merino legal team could possibly have.
Kristen: Hmm. So how long did this take you?
Chloe: Almost three weeks.
Kristen: Mm, well, that’s too bad. You’re not gonna get paid for those three weeks.
Chloe: What?
Kristen: Well, basic black can’t afford to spend good money on unnecessary reports. And what ceo has time to read this busy work?
Chloe: Well, if it’s too complicated for you, I’m sure I can–
Kristen: Do you think insults are a good tactic at this moment? Boil this down to under 20 pages.

[Phone line trilling]

Gabi: I’m expecting a proposal from brady’s office this morning.

Johnny: It’s just the longer I waited, the harder it got and I just–

Ej: And I’m an officer of the court. If your friend, gwen, killed my sister-in-law–
Ava: Gwen didn’t kill anybody.
Ej: Oh, and I should just take your word for that because you’re such an upstanding citizen? I heard you accusing her just now. You have no idea what she did or didn’t do.
Ava: You asked me to give you one good reason why you shouldn’t call the cops. I did.
Ej: I didn’t expect us to be discussing the hearsay rule.
Ava: Oh. What did you want me to say?
Ej: That in exchange for my silence, you will sign jake’s shares in dimera enterprises over to me.
Marlena: Sounds to me like you had a really good time and a really good trip.
Brady: It was; my favorite part was getting to pick you up. Do you remember when I told you that I wanted to talk to grandma a little bit? Okay, could you maybe listen to some music on the couch over here and just hang out? It won’t be long, okay? Okay, here you go.
Marlena: I swear she’s grown 2 inches since I saw her last.
Brady: I think you’re right. Thank you for letting me bring her here. I wanted her to feel that this was a comfortable place, sort of a neutral territory.
Marlena: I’m not sure I understand what you’re getting at.
Brady: I’ve decided to give kristen a chance to see her.
Chloe: So for the last three weeks, you’ve been saying, “this is too vague,” or “you need to be more specific,” so I did what you asked, and now you’re asking me to pare this thing down to 20 pages?
Kristen: Chloe, if you don’t like my management style, you can just quit.
Chloe: I’m not gonna give you the satisfaction of driving me out. But even if you did succeed, do you really think that you can come between brady and me?
Kristen: You’re not the great love of his life, you know?
Chloe: That’s not what he said last night when we were making love– whoa, what are you do– were you gonna hit me?

Ej: With all the privileges and benefits accorded to my brother’s widow.
Ava: Oh, so it’s bribery and blackmail.
Ej: However you want to put it.
Ava: Oh, you got nothing on me. I mean, why would I break gwen out of prison? Hm, you know, I’m the one who ratted on her to the da.
Ej: Then why do I keep walking in on the two of you having tte–ttes in the living room?
Ava: Maybe because you’ve got such a well-stocked bar here.
Ej: Ava, dear. We both know what I heard. And I think rafe will be very interested to hear it.
Ava: Rafe is not gonna believe a word that you have to say. He hates you more than he hates me. But you know what, go ahead. Be my guest, make the call, waste rafe’s time, and make an enemy out of me. See where that gets you.
Johnny: I’ve been filled in on some of the stuff I did while I was, you know…
Gabi: Possessed by the devil?
Johnny: God, yeah, wow, as many times as I say that, I just can’t make it sound casual, and, anyway, it seems I did a number on you.
Gabi: Oh, you mean us almost having sex on my desk?
Johnny: Wait, that happened, and I don’t remember it?
Gabi: Do not worry. It was not memorable.
Johnny: Okay. Ow, that hurts.
Gabi: Good!
Johnny: Look, the thing I feel worst about is– I don’t know, I just feel like you and my uncle, jake, you might still be together if I–if the devil hadn’t–
Gabi: No, no, we wouldn’T. Jake’s dead, and you had nothing to do with it.
Johnny: Yeah, but the reason you guys broke up was because you thought he sold you out to victor kiriakis–it was me. And I am truly sorry for that.
Gabi: I appreciate you saying that, but, well, the truth is, you did me a little favor.
Johnny: How?
Gabi: Well, when jake refused to believe me, believe what I actually saw with my own eyes, I realized that he would never trust me. You know, why would he? We built our relationship on me wanting him to be somebody else.
Johnny: Stefan.
Gabi: Yeah, and then when jake died so suddenly, it brought back all those memories of the worst night of my life, of stefan dying so suddenly. So don’t feel bad about jake and me. I mean, I was out of his life for, what, 15 minutes before ava vitali was in his bed?
Johnny: And then he married her.
Gabi: Yeah, then he married her. Everything happened so quickly, I forgot about that, but it doesn’t matter because I’m with li shin, and we’re very happy.
Johnny: I’m glad, I’m glad. So does that mean you and me, we’re okay? I wish you and li the best.
Rolf: You went against your word, damn it! Turning off stefan’s life support.
Li: Temporarily.
Rolf: It would’ve been permanently had you not been caught. This, after you assured me you would not harm him! You said you only wanted to delay his recovery long enough to cement your relationship with ms. Hernandez.
Li: I had a moment of doubt, what can I say?
Rolf: Your moment of doubt would’ve caused all those years of my work to go up in smoke!
Li: You don’t care any more about stefan than I do. He’s a science fair project to you, a feather in your cap.
Rolf: And an obstacle to you.
Li: Hm, so basically, we’re on the same page.
Rolf: I assured kristen that you will not have an opportunity to get near her brother again.
Li: Oh, come on. Kristen’s show of sisterly love for stefan and jake is really a matter of shares of stock. So I proposed a slight change in the plan for stefan. She liked it.
Rolf: What is this plan?
Li: Once stefan has been miraculously brought back to life, I want him to immediately become attracted to–
Rolf: Chloe lane.
Li: So she told you?
Rolf: What does that have to do with business?
Li: Every story is a business story. Ms. Lane is getting in kristen’s way. And I need kristen to be happy and on my side. So can you make it happen?
Marlena: Brady.
Brady: Hmm?
Marlena: Are you sure you want to let kristen see her?
Brady: I do, and I don’T. I mean, kristen’s been asking for months, but when she was at statesville, I didn’t think that was appropriate to bring rachel there. But now that she’s out, I don’t have that excuse anymore.
Marlena: I understand.
Brady: She loves her mom. She keeps asking me why she can’t see her mom.
Marlena: Yeah, well, I understand that too. Kristen can be very unpredictable.
Brady: She can, but not so much when she’s with rachel. She adores her. I just–I don’t want to tell– I don’t want to tell rachel who her mother is and what she has done until she’s older.
Marlena: You’re such a good dad.
Brady: Well, I do know that I’m not being completely selfless in this. I mean, since kristen has gotten out of the joint, she’s been very noisy about wanting to revisit the custody agreement.
Marlena: Oh, dear.
Brady: And that’s not the worst of it. She’s installed herself at basic black under li shin, so she’s been lording her power over chloe ever since.
Marlena: What do you think she’s looking for in terms of custody?
Brady: She says– she says she wants joint, but I wouldn’t put it past her to go for full. Marlena, I cannot let that happen. I mean, maybe if I play nice, kristen will play nice in return.
Chloe: Whoa, you’re actually gonna kill me in this office? How would that work out for you?
Kristen: Well, if you haven’t noticed, chloe, I have a certain gift for getting myself out of jams.
[Phone ringing]
Kristen: It’s brady. Hi. Chloe and I were just talking about you.
Brady: You said you wanted to see rachel when she got back. She and I are at marlena’s office.
Kristen: Right now?
Brady: Yeah.
Kristen: I’ll be there. Time. It’s life’s most precious commodity,
Rolf: The problem is, I’m not sure I can do what you’re asking.
Li: Come on, you’re a genius. You kept a guy with no heart alive for four years.
Rolf: That is true.
Li: All I want is for you to make stefan forget he ever loved gabi.
Rolf: You think such a thing is easy? The emotion center of the brain is not my area of expertise!
Li: Don’t be modest. I heard you put a chip in hope brady’s brain, made her think she was a dead european princess.
Rolf: Yes, I did do that. But–
Li: I have faith in you, rolf. If anyone can make stefan fall back in love with chloe lane, it has to be you.
Chloe: Hey, I’m sorry, but we need to talk.
Gabi: Oh, that was fast.
Chloe: What do you mean?
Gabi: I just told your secretary I needed the merino report, and, well, here you are.I really need to talk to you
Gabi: What else is there? Kristen says this is not ready to go to the client–
Chloe: Kristen–kristen just tried to murder me.
Gabi: For real?
Kristen: Yeah, with a letter opener because she wants brady.
Gabi: Uh, did you go to the police?
Chloe: No.
Gabi: Okay, well, I mean, you’re not dead.
Chloe: I would be dead if she hadn’t gotten a phone call from brady; I’d have a letter opener through my heart. I’m sorry, just going to work now feels like I’m risking my life. I can’t sleep, I get stress headaches, and I don’t want to live like this. But I don’t think hr can handle this kind of a problem.
Gabi: Maybe you should just resign.
Chloe: No! I have a son to support.
Gabi: Okay, yeah, no, I get that. Maybe try not to escalate the situation, hm?
Chloe: And just do nothing?
Gabi: Well, you know kristen. She’s probably not even gonna be here that–
Chloe: Oh, she will be here. As long as brady and rachel are here, she’s not going anywhere. And she’s convinced that I’m the only thing that’s keeping them from being together.
Gabi: I just don’t think is the hill to die on.
Chloe: Can we not talk about dying? Please, I’m just asking you, can you talk to her? Can you tell her to leave me alone?
Gabi: If I do that, she’s gonna flip on me.
Chloe: That lady flipped like 20 years ago.
Gabi: It means she’s gonna side up with ej, and then he’s gonna kick me out of this office in about two seconds. Look, I’m sorry, I can’t do that. My hands are tied.
Ej: I suppose I don’t need to involve the police yet.
Ava: Good answer.
Ej: Given that leo stark currently occupies the suspect of the week cell at salem city jail.
Ava: He looks good for abigail’s murder, don’t you think?
Ej: Hmm, they all did. Until they had alibis. If stark has one as well, I’m making that call.
Ava: Ah, so we are right back where we started, except that now everything is out in the open. Look, I know the only reason you invited me to move in here was to get your hands on my dimera shares, but now you’ve completely shown your hand. Oh, and for the record, if I was going to let go of those shares, which is highly unlikely, the person I’d give them to would be your one and only sister, kristen. Because we actually do get along.
Brady: Do you think rachel could benefit from seeing a child psychologist?
Kristen: Rachel doesn’t need a therapist. All she needs is her mama.
Rachel: Mommy!
Kristen: Right, baby? Ha! Oh, my god. Everything is gonna be all right now, sweetheart, hm? Mama’s here, yeah. Oh, baby. Pool floaties are like whooping cough.
Ej: You’d be foolish to pit me against my sister right now. Her loyalty will always be to family.
Ava: Yeah, well, I’m family now too. And jake would be rolling over in his grave right now if he knew how you were treating his widow.
Ej: But he doesn’t know, does he? And he won’T.
Ava: Yeah, well, so much for the gracious host making me feel welcome.
Ej: You can always move out.
Ava: Oh, I’m not going anywhere, ej, and if you expect anything in return for your generosity–
Ej: You think you can live here indefinitely without offering me something in return?
Ava: You can go straight to hell.
Johnny: What’s going on here?
Ava: Ask your father.

Chloe: So you’re saying that if kristen murders me at the office, you won’t care?
Gabi: I’m just saying she doesn’t to get sent back to statesville. I mean, she lives for her daughter.
Chloe: Yeah, and for brady. And that little stunt she pulled today in the office was her showing me that she means business.
Gabi: I wish I could help you.
Chloe: Oh, you know kristen could hurt you too.
Gabi: How?
Chloe: You know she doesn’t give a damn about basic black, or this proposal, or the merger. All she cares about is pushing me out of brady’s life.
Gabi: Look, even if you’re right, she’s still a dimera, and I’m not. I have absolutely no power over her.
Chloe: Ugh. I guess I should’ve figured you’d do this.
Gabi: Sorry, what does that mean?
Chloe: Oh, come on, don’t tell me you’ve forgotten. Me and stefan? We were together, and we were happy, and then you just swooped right in, and you slept with him, and you took him away from me.
Rolf: Even if I could make stefan feel an attraction to chloe, how do you know chloe would return his feelings? I’m a doctor, not a matchmaker.
Li: I don’t care what chloe feels. I just want to keep stefan from going after gabi. Your friend kristen’s the one who wants stefan to break up chloe and brady. If that doesn’t happen, it’s her problem, not mine.
Kristen: Oh, you have grown up so much since the last time I saw you. You’re so pretty. Baby.
Rachel: I missed you, mommy.
Kristen: Not as much as I missed you. I got your valentine, and I really wanted to send you one, but I couldn’T. You know what I do? I keep yours with me everywhere I go. See? Yeah, and guess what else. I have in here a little present for you. It’s yours, open it up.
Rachel: It’s a necklace!
Kristen: Yeah. It’s a very special necklace. It’s called a locket. And see, we open it up.
[Gasps] Oh, and there we are. And that’s daddy, and that’s me, and the little baby I’m holding, that’s you. It’s when we were a family, the three of us together.

Ej: Oh, we were having a disagreement about the company.
Johnny: What does ava have to do with dimera enterprises?

Johnny: You know, it was pretty obvious from the get-go when you invited her to move in here that it wasn’t about taking care of your brother’s widow. It’s about controlling his shares.
Ej: Before you get too comfortable up there on the moral high ground, let me remind you that ava’s marriage to your uncle jake is highly suspect.
Johnny: How so?
Ej: Well, she did marry him shortly before he was shot to death.
Johnny: Are you saying you think ava is responsible for jake’s death?
Ej: No. And neither did the police. But I do believe the marriage is suspect.
Johnny: Because he was killed the same day she married him.
Ej: Of course.
Johnny: Yeah, man, she’s got to be shell-shocked.
Ej: Oh, believe me, that woman is always capable of thinking clearly. And she never stops acting in her own best interests.
Johnny: Or maybe she’s just trying to do what she thinks jake would’ve wanted, and maybe jake would’ve wanted gabi to stay right where she is. And it sounds like you’re asking her to just say to hell with what he wanted.
Ej: I don’t think ava really cares about what jake would’ve wanted.
Johnny: What does that mean?
Ej: That the poor widow isn’t as grief-stricken as you seem to think.
Gabi: What happened between stefan and me was not about hurting you. At first, I wanted to get back at him because he was part of the reason I went to prison for something I didn’t do. I never expected to fall in love with him. It just happened. I thought that I’d been in love before, but stefan was the first. He was the only man who ever really loved me back.
Chloe: Okay, I’m sorry. I was trying to make you feel guilty, and now I just– I feel guilty. Come on, please don’t cry, okay? I’m sorry, I just– I was just very hurt and angry when stefan dumped me for you. But realistically, he and I would’ve never lasted. I mean, good grief, vivian would’ve been my mother-in-law. Brady and I are together, and you and stefan were obviously meant to be.
Gabi: Till the day he died.
Rolf: Have you had a frank conversation with kristen about her plan for stefan and chloe?
Li: She’s a smart woman. She’ll figure out what to do. You said that she told you that she’s on board with my plan.
Rolf: More or less.
Li: Then it seems to me you have your marching orders. So why don’t you go back to your lab and start working on stefan right away.
Kristen: Would you like mommy to put this on you?
Brady: Sweetie? Sweetie, are you hungry? It’s probably time for a snack, right?
Rachel: No, I’m fine.
Marlena: Why don’t I take you to the cafeteria because I think they have that chocolate milk that you like, and you can tell me more about your trip?
Rachel: Can mom come with us?
Kristen: No, sweetie. I need to stay here and talk with daddy. But you know what? I’m gonna see you soon, I promise. You know, you go with marlena, okay, sweetheart? Here, hey. All right. I’ll see you soon.
Brady: What the hell are you doing?
Kristen: What do you mean?
Brady: The locket, really?
Kristen: You’re angry because I gave a present to my own child? I have been carrying that around with me for ages while I wait for a chance to see her. And I do–I thank you for giving me that chance.
Brady: You are making me wish that I hadn’T. Do you understand that that necklace is gonna put ideas into her head? Kristen: Okay–
Brady: That’s exactly what you wanted, kristen.
Kristen: What ideas, brady? It’s just a picture of the three of us.
Brady: That necklace is gonna give her hope that we are somehow gonna be a family again.
Kristen: Well, who says we won’t? No matter who you are,
Gabi: Let me take a look at that report.
Chloe: Yeah.
Gabi: Oh, wow. Well, this is pretty detailed. I mean, what was kristen’s problem with it?
Chloe: Well, apparently, my first draft was too vague, and now this one is too long. So basically, nothing I do is going to please her.
Gabi: It’s not about what pleases her. What’s all this footnote action at the end here?
Chloe: Almost 200 pages of documentation that kristen said that she wanted.
Gabi: All right, you know what, toss it, send it to me again asap please. And I’m gonna do what I can.
Chloe: Thank you.
Gabi: But you do know that kristen is just gonna come up with some new way to torture you.
Chloe: I know, but I’m not quitting. She needs to know that two can play at that game of hers. Kristen needs to know that she’s not the only one who can play hardball.
Brady: I can’t believe I have to say this to you again. I will. You and I are never getting together again, ever. I let you see rachel because that’s what rachel wanted, but make no mistake, if you start trying to turn her against chloe, or if you keep making these ridiculous promises to her about you and I–
Kristen: I did not make any promises. I did not make any promises, brady. I love her, and I would never use her to–
Brady: You would never– you would never use her? That’s exactly what you did. You haven’t seen her in months. The first thing you do is start rhapsodizing about how we used to be a family, like we were in some vine-covered cottage in some damn fairy tale, kristen. The truth is, she just didn’t understand the fact that we were on the run because her mother was convicted of stabbing her great-grandfather in the heart. Remember that?
Kristen: Brady, hey, you– you know why I did that.
Brady: Damn it, kristen, that little girl’s been through enough. She’s finally getting a little stability in her life. I really want to keep it that way.
Kristen: Don’t you think I want that for her too?
Brady: Make no mistake, just because she wants you in her life doesn’t mean that I’m gonna do whatever you want, okay?
Kristen: You cannot keep her away from me because that would be heartless and cruel.
Brady: Oh, that’s hilarious coming from you, the mother that wanted to kidnap her own daughter to keep her away from her father.
Kristen: I was wrong. And you– I was desperate, brady.
Brady: You’re always, always desperate.
Kristen: Where are you going?
Brady: I’m going to pick up our daughter, and I’m going to take her home because this visit is over.
Kristen: Okay, wait, just– oh, my god, just wait. When do I get to see her again?
Brady: When do you get to– I’ll tell you when you get to see her again. You get to see her again when you stop putting your needs in front of your daughter’S. You get to see her when you are the mother that she needs right now.
Kristen: How dare you speak to me that way!
Brady: I’m just calling it as I see it.
Kristen: [Groans]
Johnny: Ava, you decent?
Ava: Yeah. Oh, come on in.
Johnny: You all right?
Ava: Yeah, I will be.
Johnny: I’m sorry about the way my dad’s treating you. It’s not…
Ava: Yeah, well, he’s pressuring me to give him jake’s shares, and when I told him i wouldn’t, he said he was gonna kick me out.
Johnny: What’d you say to him?
Ava: Well, I’m no pushover, kid. I’m not going anywhere.
Johnny: Good. You know, my dad, he’s– he’s pretty much screwed it up with my mom, and I guess everyone else. So I think he’s just really one-track minded about getting the company back. But that doesn’t give him an excuse to walk all over you, right? You know, not after everything you’ve been through. I’m sorry he did that.
Ava: You’re sweet. I grew up in a mob family. I’m not gonna let ej dimera rattle me.
Johnny: He the reason you were crying?
Ava: Oh, no, no, no. It’s just been… these last months, years been kind of tough. You know, turning my back on my family and just bouncing around, and then… my youngest son went and got himself murdered. And my oldest son, my pride and joy, he couldn’t take it here anymore, so he just–he moved out west. Then my precious jake. You know, to lose him too, it’s– anyway, it was just, you know, it all just became a bit much, but I’m okay. I will be okay because I always am.
Johnny: If you ever need anyone to talk to, I’m here, so…
Ava: Thank you.
Johnny: Yep.
[Tense music]
We women are in the know about everything.
Johnny: Well, I just got back from a run, so I should probably go hit the shower.
Ava: Thanks for being here for me.
Johnny: Sure.
[Soft music]
Chloe: It’s such a cute picture. You were really a beautiful baby.
Rachel: Mommy says that picture is when we were a family.
Brady: Yeah, that was a long time ago, sweetie.
Rachel: I want to be a family again.
Marlena: I didn’t think you’d still be here.
Kristen: I was hoping brady would bring rachel back to say goodbye.
Marlena: No, no. No, she’s jet-lagged. And she wanted to see chloe.
Kristen: Oh, you said that to hurt me.
Marlena: I said that to help you face reality. Brady and chloe are together. They love each other. Nothing you can do could change that.
Rolf: I can’t promise to program stefan’s feelings in accordance with your wishes and kristen’S. I can only promise to do my best work.
Li: That’s all I can ask. I have faith in you, rolf. Please, keep me updated on your progress.
Rolf: I will.
Gabi: Why didn’t you tell me you were meeting up with this creep? What do you two have to meet about?
