THIS STILL NEEDS SOME EDITING!

[gentle music]

Hmm. What’s that wonderful smell?

Good morning, sleepyhead.

What are you cooking, chef?

Haggis with neeps and tatties.

[laughs] I’m sorry, come again?

Turnip and potato mash.

Mmm. So you’re making haggis for brunch. Was your New Year’s resolution to get in touch with your roots?

Well, I figured I’d have to surprise you. I was going to bring you breakfast in bed. I was actually kind of looking forward to that. I mean, I–I would have knocked first. I wouldn’t just presume to barge in there while you were, you know, in bed.

Actually, I– I wouldn’t have minded. You could have done that.

[romantic music]

[clattering]

[door unlocks]

Wendy, hey.

You’re home.

Finally. I’m–I’m really sorry I didn’t make it for New Year’s Eve. I got stuck at the hospital, and then it was a crazy night.

No, no, no, no, no, no. It’s okay. We can make up for it in Hong Kong when we celebrate Lunar New Year together.

[gasps] We are going to have such an amazing time, okay? Checking out all the fireworks and lantern displays. Oh, and I know the best street food stall to get dumplings and nian gao, which you are going to love.

[chuckles] And I’m happy to announce that the police department granted me an open-ended leave of absence.

That’s great.

Yeah, it is. Especially since, you know, I hope to come back someday. Of course, it all depends on my dad’s condition.

Right. Yeah, how is he holding up?

He’s still in rough shape. But luckily my flight leaves tonight, as you know, and then I’ll be there with him and my mom.

And I know they’ll both be so happy to see you.

And I’ll be so happy when I get to welcome you to Hong Kong. Speaking of which, have you made arrangements to take a leave from the hospital and join me soon?

[somber music]

About that. I’m sorry, Wendy. I–I can’t go.

Can’t wait to get you home, buddy.

Okay. I just got a call from the assistant district attorney.

I just got off the phone with the judge. He’s reversed his decision. Your bail has been revoked. I’m sorry, Tate. You’re not going anywhere except back into custody.

No. No, he can’t do that.

Well, unfortunately he can, because judges have a lot of latitude.

What? How can he do–how can he just change his mind? I mean, he just granted bail a half an hour ago.

Okay, okay. I just got to the bottom of it. Apparently EJ convinced the judge that Tate is a flight risk because of the family wealth, access to the jet.

He’s a–

That–that’s not true. It’s not fair.

Justin, EJ probably owns this judge. You know that.

I haven’t heard anything to suggest that. But EJ– as the district attorney, he holds a lot of sway.

Oh my God, this can’t be happening.

Please, can everyone just stop talking and tell me what’s going to happen to me?

[tense music]

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

Victoria is still– oh, thank you. Victoria is still sleeping, yeah?

Yeah, yeah. Once we got settled after her last bottle, she slept through the night. No fever, nothing. She’s–she’s doing so much better.

She’s a trooper.

Yeah, she is. Thank you for letting me stay last night.

Oh, of course. I mean, you know, after the whole fever scare last night, and me stupidly not having any baby amphetamine on hand.

[laughs] Acetaminophen. It’s infant acetaminophen. And it all worked out.

Yeah, because of you. I mean, thank God you’re her mum and a doctor to boot. I mean, if anything, I should be the one thanking you.

[gentle music] Especially since I ruined your New Year’s Eve plans.

Her temperature’s back to normal.

Oh, thank God.

[chuckles] Between the meds and your lullaby.

Oh, well, I doubt it had anything to do with the latter. But she’s feeling better. Maybe you have time to nip over to your party now.

Oh, no. No, I don’t care about the party. I’d much rather be here with my little girl. And you.

[fireworks bursting] I wouldn’t say ruined.

Sarah, I’m, uh– look, I’m sorry. About last night, if I–if I did anything–

[baby crying] I’ll go get her.

Are you sure?

Yeah, yeah. The food’s all ready. Just help yourself. I’ll be right back.

[crying continues] Shh.

But, Tripp, I thought we had already decided. And you were the one who wanted to go with me.

I know, but that was all before last night.

What happened last night?

Holly Jonas was brought into the hospital.

Nicole’s daughter?

She OD’d at the Bistro. She was found on the loading dock apparently, barely alive.

My God. Is she going to be okay?

It’s too soon to tell. But this isn’t exactly about Holly.

What is it about, then?

[tense music]

Well, when I got off duty, I went over to check on Mom to make sure she was okay.

And how’s she doing?

[sighs] I don’t know. She’s acting really strange.

Well, that’s understandable, isn’t it? I mean, it must have been traumatic for her to have someone OD on her watch.

No, this is more than that. I–I know my mom. I know when something’s not right. When she encouraged me to go with you to Hong Kong, I– I had this sinking feeling that there was something up with her.

Like what?

I don’t know exactly. I mean, I just think there’s something going on that she doesn’t want me to know about, because she was way too eager to have me , miles away on another continent.

Yeah. I don’t know your mom all that well, but that does seem to be out of character for her.

Yeah, it is. You know, because my mom is all about wanting to be close to me, you know, because I’m her only child now that my brother Charlie’s gone, but it’s her way of making up for lost time. You know my mom used to be in the mob.

Yeah, I do know that. Wait, you don’t think–

I don’t want to think anything but that she’s telling me the truth. And she adamantly denied being involved with drugs.

But you don’t believe her, do you?

No, I don’t.

Son, don’t worry about it. We’re–we’re not going to give up. We’re never going to give up, okay? We’ll figure something out.

They can’t do this. They can’t send my child to jail.

No, no. It’ll be juvenile hall, Theresa, not jail. Look, we will explore our options and fight for the best outcome.

What options? What options do we have? I mean, can we go to the judge and say that EJ is clearly a conflict of interest? I mean, this is a personal vendetta. That’s all this is.

The first thing we do, we file an appeal. And I will do that immediately. And then we will explore every avenue to challenge this decision.

Well, how about if I just put up times the bail that was set? Do you think maybe that would convince him to reconsider?

No. The legal system doesn’t work like that, Alex.

Well, can’t you make it work that way? You’ve been doing this a long time. You know the judges. Make it happen.

Oh, a pleasant afternoon to you all.

You son of a bitch!

No! Hey. Let’s not make this worse, okay, Brady?

Why are you doing this? Why are you doing this to my son?

[dramatic music]

Maybe you should get some sleep.

And miss you leaving? No way. No, I’ve been up hours. What’s a few more?

So… you think your mom’s back in the game, huh?

I don’t want to think that, but too many things don’t add up. Or maybe they do.

What do you mean? How so?

Well, for starters, she suddenly breaks things off with Harris, right? And then she kills Gil dead right here in this very apartment just before. And then out of nowhere, she’s managing the Bistro with Stefan DiMera?

And have you confronted her about all this?

Of course, but she’s got an answer for everything, you know? It’s like she’s prepared. Too prepared.

Right. And I understand why you’re so worried, Tripp, especially given your mom’s history.

Now that Harris isn’t in her life anymore–

She needs you. Now more than ever, whether or not she’ll admit it. And so without you here, who will take care of her?

That’s the burning question. This hurts just so much more because you’re being so understanding, which I love you for.

Because I know you and I love you.

I am so sorry, Wendy. I truly am. All of this is so unfair.

You know, I– I won’t say I’m not disappointed, Tripp. But family is obviously very important to you, and I respect you for that. You know, just like I feel like I have to take care of my parents now. I know you feel the same way about your mom.

[somber music] It’s just, now we have another issue.

Yeah. Yeah, I know. What does this mean for us?

Oh, you really enjoyed that, huh?

Yeah, can’t you tell? I cleaned my plate.

[chuckles] Well, just wait till our little Victoria gets a taste of her granny’s “skons.” She’s going to love them.

I’m sorry, what?

[laughs] Say that again.

What, “skons?”

Do you mean scones?

Some Scottish people pronounce it differently. Like John, gone, “skon.”

[chuckles]

Wow. It’s amazing. After all this time that we have known each other, I don’t think I’ve ever heard you say the word “scone.” “Skon.” It’s scone.

[laughs] I–you know, I do admit that I hope that she gets your accent.

Really? Why?

Because it’s– it’s charming, and I love it. And she is half-Scottish.

Mm, she is. But I don’t know, I was kind of hoping she’d take more after your side of the family.

Why is that?

Because I think the world of you, and of Maggie. And I happen to find your American accent very charming. In fact, I like everything about you, truth be told.

[gentle music]

Well, thanks.

[laughs] I–I should get dressed and pack up all of Victoria’s things. It is my night with her, as you know.

Right. How could I forget?

So I’ll be out of your hair in a jiffy, give you your apartment back.

[door closes]

Brady!

Brady!

Brady, don’t do it! Don’t. Don’t! It’s just going to make things worse for Tate.

Oh, let him go, Commissioner. I’m curious to see how far he’s willing to take it. Assaulting the district attorney? Perhaps some father-son time in jail would be a wonderful bonding experience.

Brady, no, no, no, no. We need you here with us.

Don’t make things worse.

I don’t think things could get worse.

Oh, I beg to differ, Theresa. Things can definitely get worse. Look at my family. Look at my wife, Nicole, broken at Holly’s bedside, very possibly about to lose another child. An innocent girl fighting for her life because she was influenced– probably pressured– into taking potentially lethal drugs by the amoral, entitled son of drug addicts.

That’s not– that’s not what happened. I told her not to do it. I told her it was a bad idea, but she didn’t listen to me!

Save it, son. Tate is nearly of age, and he has committed a serious crime that’s resulted in the grievous bodily injury of my stepdaughter.

You have no proof of that. What happened to being innocent until proven guilty?

Tate will be charged as an adult and held here at the local Salem jail with the other prisoners.

[tense music]

EJ, you can’t charge Tate as an adult for possession. The law doesn’t support that.

I’m well aware of the law, Justin. How about manslaughter or attempted murder for peddling a deadly batch of drugs that’s killing kids, and might have killed my stepdaughter?

He’s only . He can’t do this, can he?

I’m afraid he can. The district attorney can charge a minor as an adult if the crime is fitting.

EJ, please. EJ, he’s–he’s just a child. I mean, you’re a parent too. Can–can you just please have some compassion?

Theresa, I told you we should get another lawyer.

[scoffs] Justin should have changed the venue.

Alex, you are out of your element. You can’t change the venue until there’s a trial.

Well, the least you could have done was found a judge who wasn’t under EJ’s thumb.

Excuse me? What did you just say?

You heard me.

If you’re going to make an accusation, make it to my face.

How about I rearrange your face instead?

Oh, so now you’re threatening the DA while surrounded by cops. Brilliant.

I’m not scared of you, EJ. You don’t think the Kiriakises have friends in high places?

Stop! Everybody stop. Mom. Mom, I beg you, please, please don’t let them send me to jail. I–I can’t.

[somber music]

I know.

[sighs] I wish there was a way I could just stay here in Salem. You know, be here for you and your mom. But, as you know, my parents need me in Hong Kong. I feel like I have to go. I–

I get that, okay? Hey, they just lost their son, and you feel the responsibility to help them through that.

Yeah, I do.

And like I said, I totally understand. We need to talk about what happens next. I mean, are we going to try the long-distance thing?

Well, yeah. But it’s a really long distance, so it won’t be easy.

Right. I mean, it’s obviously, you know, too long to just spend weekends together here or there. But I mean, we can still talk and text, video calls. And then when there is more than a weekend we both have free, we can definitely visit each other.

Yeah, right. No, that all sounds nice and doable. I mean, making all these plans while we’re still in the same room. But we both once I leave and we’re separated by oceans, it won’t be the same.

Yeah, I guess it won’t be.

And, Tripp, I care about you so much, and I just want you to be happy. So I don’t want to stand in your way if you meet someone else, okay? I don’t–I don’t expect you to wait for me. I mean that.

I… I understand. I wouldn’t want you waiting for me, either.

I can’t believe we’re actually saying goodbye.

Look at me in my walk-of-shame outfit. Not that there’s anything to be ashamed of, just that your neighbors might talk.

Oh, my neighbors are terribly unfriendly. Whenever they pass me in the hall, they just look right through me. So I can’t imagine they’ll pay you any attention.

Ah. As much as I do love attention, I’m going to count on that.

And I have to say, if I may, that your walk-of-shame outfit is very becoming. Not that I’ve ever seen you look anything but beautiful, no matter what you wear or don’t wear.

[sultry music]

Well, um, thank you. Victoria’s diaper bag is all packed up. So as soon as she wakes up, I will head out. And in the meantime, I should help you with the dishes, because you’ve cooked.

Oh, no, stop. Don’t worry about that.

No, I don’t mind. Like I said–

Sarah, please, will you just forget about the dishes?

Okay. Is there something wrong?

No, it’s– earlier, when I was putting Victoria down, I– well, I couldn’t help but think that now that Chloe’s moved out, that there is, uh– there’s a spare room.

Right. Yeah, for Victoria. You–you’re making it into a nursery.

I am, yes. But you’ll notice that there is a regular bed in there too. I know you know, because you slept in it last night. I assume it was comfortable?

It was, yeah.

So I wonder–

[laughs]

If maybe it’s possible, if you would even consider–

Con–consider what?

Moving in here permanently, with our daughter.

You know, I can’t even imagine not having you in my life.

[gentle music] You’ve been my rock, my support. I don’t think I could have even survived my brother’s death without you. Not to mention you make me laugh, and I do love your shrimp tacos.

Well, you make me laugh too. I’m so impressed by your mind, how smart you are, how hard you work and do whatever you do. Just being around you lifts my spirits.

Even when I’m whiny and sad and sorry for myself?

You are never any of the above. You are brave and kind. You’ve taught me to believe in love again.

Xander, I– I don’t know what to say.

Say yes. Move in with me, with us.

[soft dramatic music]

I mean, sharing custody is hard. I miss her so much when we are apart.

Sarah, I totally agree. And come on, it has to be better for our little girl to have a permanent home rather than bouncing back and forth between two places all the time.

No, it would. It–it definitely would. But you know, uh, Konstantin is staying with my mom until his ankle is healed and he can leave town. And I like the guy, but I don’t exactly trust him, so I don’t know how I’d feel about my mom being alone with him all the time.

I mean, Maggie’s not really alone. There’s lots of people still live at the Kiriakis mansion. Henderson’s always there. It’s a–it’s a busy house. Plus, how can you keep an eye on your mum if you’re spending a good chunk of your day at the hospital?

That’s true. But maybe she could just volunteer more, you know, at the hospital. I mean–

Or maybe you could trust that she’s a big girl, and she can take care of herself. Unless–

Unless what?

Sarah, are you just looking for a reason to say no?

Please. Please don’t let them take me, Mom. Please.

Just please give me a minute. I need to speak to my son.

Look at me. Look at me. It’s going to be okay. We’re going to get you out of here as soon as possible.

I’m scared.

I know. Don’t be scared. You don’t have to be scared because you didn’t do anything wrong.

No. We know you’re innocent, and we are going to fight like hell to prove it. Don’t you worry.

[tense music]

Even if the drugs weren’t yours, Tate, the fact remains that you didn’t call when you found Holly, and that could mean the difference between whether she pulls through this or not.

I’m sorry. I’m–I’m so sorry.

Mm. Oh, it’s a little too late for sorry.

Okay. Maybe I am looking for a reason to not move in. It’s just, I think you can understand how complicated this is for me. You know, how I might feel conflicted about us living together.

Obviously I– but Sarah, let’s not ignore the -ton elephant in the room any longer. We kissed last night, and we haven’t talked about it. Sarah, are you worried that I only asked you to move in with me in the hope that maybe eventually we would sleep together?

[tense music]

Okay. Honestly, you know, our emotions were heightened. We were both worried that Victoria might be sick. And it was New Year’s Eve, and we did– we got caught up in the fireworks, and the celebratory feeling. And it was just–it happened in the heat of the moment.

That’s true.

Yeah.

But it’s also true that I’ve wanted to kiss you for a long time.

Well–

Well, what?

I wanted to kiss you too.

I can tell.

[laughs] Look, Xander, that kiss– it was– It was amazing. Yeah, all of our kisses are amazing. I’m just– I’m scared of going too fast and falling just madly in love with you again, and regretting it.

[sighs] So… guess my– my car should be here soon.

What? Oh, you shouldn’t have ordered a car. Cancel it. I’ll take you to the airport. We should be together till the very last minute.

Tripp, I don’t think it would be a very good idea for us to go together to the airport. I think it would just make it harder for us to say goodbye.

Yeah, but I want to take you.

Please, I’d rather you didn’t.

[somber music]

Okay. I understand.

I’m going to go freshen up before I go.

[phone beeps] Okay, my car is here a bit early, actually.

No, let me.

[crying]

[phone rings]

This is a nightmare. I mean, my son is innocent. And not just innocent, he is a good and caring person. He would never willingly hurt somebody, let alone somebody that he cares about.

Theresa, it’s going to be okay.

I don’t know if I can believe that. I mean, look–look– look at his eyes. Look at EJ’s eyes. I don’t see a husband who is grieving the loss of a child, or a man who is dying inside for his wife, because her daughter is suffering. I just– I just see bitterness and hatred.

[tense music]

Tate, we need to get you out of that suit. Officer Kelsey will help you with that.

I’ll go with Tate, make sure he’s taken care of.

Good. Counselor, a word?

Of course, Commissioner. Lead the way.

You know what, Alex? You were right. I should have listened to you. We should have gotten another lawyer.

Make this quick. I don’t want to miss the boy being hauled away in cuffs.

What the hell is the matter with you? Why are you doing this?

You can’t figure it out? I mean, as someone who was in Holly’s life at one time, I would think you and I would be on the same side of this, Hernandez.

On the same side?

Yes. –

[chuckles] When the hell was I ever on the same side with you on anything?

[tense music] I mean, for God’s sake. Okay, let’s say Tate did give Holly those drugs. He’s just a kid. He’s a kid who never meant for any of this to happen. Besides which, Holly took those drugs willingly.

That is a baseless assumption. Tate could have put them in her drink for all we know.

Oh, yeah. Yeah, sure. Well, soon we will know a lot more, because I’m going to go to the high school, and I’m going to interview eyewitnesses, and then we will get a clear picture as to what was going on with Holly. Maybe some things that you don’t even know about, but perhaps I should just share that with Nicole.

Stay away from my wife, and don’t you dare try and make the victim the criminal here.

All I am trying to do is to get you to see the reality of this tragedy! I mean, my God. Holly Jonas is in a coma. Her mother is in agony. And all you can do is lash out at this poor kid who’s already horrified and traumatized? You’re trying to make his pain worse. Does that make you feel good, EJ? Is it lifting your spirits?

This conversation is over.

Okay. Well, think about this, then. Think about Johnny when he was Tate’s age. Imagine if someone was doing what you are doing to Tate to him. How would that make you feel? Yeah, it’d make you go nuts. Think about it, EJ.

[dramatic music]

Sarah, if you moved in here with me, if you agreed to, we’d be roommates and co-parents. And I promise I would– I’d be a proper gentleman. I mean, I would respect your boundaries. That’s the modern way of putting it, right?

It is, yeah. It is.

And I’m sure that you would respect mine.

Your boundaries?

Mm-hmm.

Yeah, okay. Well, uh, what are they?

Well, let’s see. You should never, ever–

Oh.

Eat something from the fridge that I was saving for myself.

Ah. Yeah, okay. Any other boundaries?

Yes.

Oh.

Actually a very important one. You should– I would prefer it if you did not–

Mm-hmm.

Put my phone or tablet or laptop somewhere where I can’t find it. You know, in an effort to straighten up.

Yeah, no. I get that. I get that one, yeah.

So how about you? What are your boundaries?

Oh, man. Just too many to state right now, so I’ll probably just make a list, or some sort of a spreadsheet.

Oh, a spreadsheet. Yeah, that’d be helpful.

I think it would be, yeah.

So what’s your answer?

[gentle music]

I’d be willing to give it a shot, I guess. I mean, I would.

[laughs]

I was really hoping you would say that.

[keys jangle] Sarah, welcome to your new home.

Did you have these in your pocket the whole time?

[both laugh] You’re quiet.

[sighs] Tripp… I have to go. It’s time.

I know.

[somber music] God, I’m gonna miss you so much.

[sighs] I love you.

I love you too. Always.

[sobs]

[exhales]

Hey. Look at me. Hey. We have to have– we have to have faith that Holly is going to wake up, okay? And she’s going to make everything okay. She’s going to set things right.

We will do everything in our power to prove your innocence. We are going to fight this, Tate.

[tense music]

I never meant for any of this to happen.

Of course you didn’t.

I know.

Of course you didn’t.

Buddy, buddy, you are innocent. You’re innocent. And until we prove it– we will prove it. And we’re going to get you home as soon as we can, okay?

Come here. We love you. We love you so much, Tate.

Tate, I– I’m sorry.

Hey. I’m sorry to say, but it’s time for Tate to come with me.

We wouldn’t want to keep your new cellmates waiting, now would we?

You are a monster. I swear, if anything happens to my son–

All right, Theresa. Let’s not give him any more ammunition, okay? This guy’s not worth it.

Come here. You stay strong, all right? I’m going to move heaven and earth to get you out of here, you hear me?

[handcuffs jangling]

Come on. Tate, I’m sorry, but it’s protocol for the transfer down to the jail.

Okay.

Okay. Let’s go.

EJ… this isn’t over. Not by a long shot.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

Say I didn’t get a chance

[ Solemn music plays ] Thank you for the offer, but I won’t be doing this alone. Okay. Well, if you change your mind, let me know. I will call you immediately. And I’ll be there just as fast.

[ Voice breaking ] I know how much bobbie meant to you. And I know how much she meant to you. Are you sure you don’t want to take the day off? No. I thought about it. I just — I-I need to keep busy. I just can’t believe she’s gone. Neither can I. Um…I’ll call you when we’re finished.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

[ Sobbing ] Shh, shh.

[ Knock on door ] Greetings, boss lady. I was… what — what’s wrong? Everything. Oh, it’s so good to see you. Come in. How’s carly? She’s staying strong. She’s missing her mom. Yeah, I’m sure she is. You know, I didn’t know bobbie that well, but I did always admire her. You should give carly a call. Yeah, of course I will. And not just about that — about some other news that came out that I don’t really want to get into right now. Okay. Uh, I’m sure carly will catch me up to speed. A-and I know that I’m early to pick up scout to go buy her new uniform. Sorry I-I didn’t call first. Yeah, um, actually, I wish you had called. I could have saved you a trip. Why? Is she okay? Yeah, yeah. She’s fine. Well, if this morning doesn’t work, then it’s gonna have to be this afternoon. I don’t mean to rush everything, but she is starting at westwood academy a week from monday, so we got to — about that. Scout won’t be going to westwood academy. Hey, willow. It’s me again. Um, listen, I know that I’m probably the last person that you want to talk to right now, but I’m ask– I’m actually begging you to please let me just explain. And I know you’re probably sick of hearing me say that, but [Sighs] Call me. Please. If you could just call me. So pathetic. She’s not gonna call me, is she? Give her some time. Well, why would she call me? I mean, there’s no explanation. There’s no excuse for me doing what I did. That’s probably how willow feels. Wow. Thank you. Thank you for your honesty. Uh, and thank you for putting me up last night. I appreciate it. I really didn’t want to be alone. Any time. And when you do finally speak to willow, you’ll find the words. Laura? Sorry. Oh. Oh. Did you spend the night here? No. No, no, I didn’T. Kevin insisted that I go home. But then I couldn’t sleep, you know? So I just came back here first thing. I guess I just dozed off.

[ Chuckles ] I take it cyrus hasn’t regained consciousness.

[ Yawns ] No, I don’t think so. Not yet anyway.

[ Sighs ] But since my brother isn’t talking, perhaps you can fill me in, detective. Does the pcpd know who attacked my brother? I’m sorry, boss. I told her you said no visitors. Lois: And I told him you would make an exception.

[ Sighs ] Go ahead. Hmm. Make it fast, lois, ’cause ava’s at the gallery, the kids are at carly’s, and I just want to be alone. Oh, well, you will be, once I leave. Has the cleaning crew been here already? Why? Because I know you, of all people, would not take your new wife’s betrayal lying down. Yet I see no sign of a rampage and not a shattered glass in sight. People change, lois. Ha. Not that much. Ah, I see luggage. Yeah. So, what, you takin’ this act of yours on the road? I’m not going anywhere. Nina is. I’m really glad you’re here. Sure. Nowhere else I’d rather be.

[ Chuckles ] Yeah. Bobbie was your best friend as much as you are mine. She wouldn’t want you to do this alone. Thank you.

[ Sniffles ] Hey.

[ Crying ] You ready? No. I don’t know if I’ll ever be ready. Bobbie spencer died. I’m — [ Stammers ] I’m so sorry. I — I mean, I only met her briefly at the nurses’ ball, but, I mean, I’m really sorry you lost your friend. Yeah, but she was more than that. When I was a kid, she was married to my uncle tony. My cousin bj was her stepdaughter at first, and then she sealed the deal and adopted her. Long story short, bj died. A drunk driver plowed into their school bus, and she was gone. She was seven years old. That’s — that’s awful. I was six at the time, and I had been waiting on a heart for my heart transplant that I thought would never come, and… the heart that is in my body right now is from bobbie’s daughter. Because bobbie and my uncle tony gave it to me. Wow. Bobbie sounds like an incredibly strong, generous woman. I could go to her for anything. Especially all those years that my mom wasn’t around.

[ Sighs ] Now I couldn’t get rid of my mom if I tried, but bobbie was my go-to. She was everyone’s go-to. She lived to help people, but she wasn’t sentimental about it. She — and she did not mince her words. Like, if you did something wrong or made a mistake, she told you, but she did it because she cared for people. And now I can’t imagine port charles without bobbie spencer. Scout has been tied up in knots about this. She — she has nightmares. She’s a nervous wreck. Well, then I’ll go talk to her. Scout isn’t here. Oh. Rocco took her out for breakfast. I see. You see what? Well, if she’s got her appetite back, I’m assuming that means that you told her it was okay that she’s not going to westwood. No, you don’t understand, drew. She was so anxious. So you j-just made this decision unilaterally? There’s no phone call, no text to me, no discussion whatsoever, is that — no, actually, I had to make a choice! I could reassure our daughter right away or wait until I spoke to you, and I chose peace. I figured we would discuss it once you got here. After you told her it was okay that she wasn’t going. Doesn’t that seem a little backwards to you? You’re right. Yes, I should have spoken with you right away. Well, thank you. I’m glad we agree on that much. Just like you should have come to me before you pitched the idea to scout in the first place. Uh, so we’ve got our people canvassing the area outside the church and checking out all the traffic cameras. But so far, there is no suspect in cyrus’ attack. Yeah. And it’s not like he has any shortage of enemies, either, ’cause he’s done a lot of damage in this community. And yet here you are, sitting vigil. I guess, whether I like it or not, he’s a member of my family. And what I learned with my son nikolas is that even though I may not like the way he behaves sometimes, I still…have a need to let them try to do better. Mm. Well, I appreciate you sticking to your principles, especially since cyrus has never given you reason to. I think he’s waking up.

[ Monitors beeping ] Cyrus? Can you hear me? An angel with the face of my sister. No angels here. You’re still very much among the living. So I see. I’m gonna try to get your doctor. I’ll be back. Mr. Renault, can you, uh, tell me what happened to you? Someone seems to have brought me to general hospital. This is the second time the good people here have snatched my life back from the jaws of death. Yeah. You’re a pretty lucky man. Well, it’s not lucky. Blessed. Right. You know, you were the victim of a — of a brutal assault. Why don’t you help me lock up whoever did this to you?

[ Coughs ] Like the local constabulary cares. Try me. Give me a name. I’ll haul him down to the precinct by the end of the day. I’m not surprised you’re evicting nina, but, uh, the last thing I expected were two neatly packed suitcases. I figured you would just be throwing her stuff over the balcony. What are you doing here? Checking up on a friend. Well, you checked up on me. You can go ahead and go. And I needed to say I-I didn’t mean to blow up your life, sonny. I just thought you deserved to know the truth. I appreciate it. I wish other people in my life were as honest as you. So, where are you banishing nina to, huh? Outer mongolia? An ice floe? Buffalo? She owns a hotel. She can stay there for now. For now? What does that mean? You’re not done with her for good? Ready? When you are. Felicia: Look at all these. This was from your wedding to robert. Oh.

[ Chuckles ] Gosh. Beautiful. Yeah. She was loved by so many people. Because she loved them. She was always the first to show up for people, the first to extend a hand. Yeah. She was the anchor for her family

[Voice breaking] And for this hospital. Yeah. She was. These photos — they really tell the story of a life well-lived. Don’t they? Yeah. So, this isn’t about scout not going to westwood academy. This is about you getting back at me because I didn’t consult with you about it first? I di– no, of course not. I’m just pointing out the fact that you put me on the spot when you announced that scout was going to westwood in front of our daughter. Yeah, well… “well” what?

[ Sighs ] Nothing. You’re right. You’re right. I, uh — I did — I did blindside you. Exactly. Look, all I’m saying is that we can — we can both do better. And, of course, if I could do it over again, I would come to you first. Then why didn’t you? I mean, clearly, scout has been — has been feeling this way for a while. Well…I thought she would change her mind. Or at least I-I hoped that she would. But the closer it got, the more she seemed to dread it. And my immediate concern was for her — her well-being. And mine isn’t? Drew, that is not what I’m saying. Really? ‘Cause it sure sounded like that. Like what I want and what I say, that doesn’t matter at all. You think that you get the final word when it comes to what’s best for our daughter? Uh, doctor’s in with cyrus now. Oh, great. So, was he able to identify his attacker? Yeah, probably. But he’s not. He — why not? I mean, he was the victim. He said, and I quote, “as I await my eternal reward, so too shall law enforcement await my cooperation.”

[ Sighs ] You know, I think I liked him better before his conversion.

[ Laughs ] Did he say anything else? Yeah, he said his attacker was not to be blamed, that his so-called frailty was the reason his injuries were so bad. So what can you do with that? Nothing. I mean, we have no options, really. Without a name, without any evidence, we can investigate, but it’s not gonna go anywhere. Yeah. Without an account from a victim or an eyewitness, you can’t bring a case, can you? If only there was someone he trusted that he would tell the truth to, you know, like, say… his sister. You know what? I shouldn’t be here. I’m putting you in a really odd, awkward position. You know, you’re friends with willow and michael, and you’re on good terms with carly. And you’re… you know, sonny still thinks of you as family. Every last one of those people knows that I consider you family, too. Thank you. You’re not a fugitive. It’s not a crime for you to be here, so let’s stop acting like it is. Okay, okay. You know what? Once again, sasha, I’ve managed to make myself public enemy #1. Who cares what people think? You still have friends. What do you want from me, lois?

[ Sighs ] Oh! Hey, it looks like you did break something after all. What was it this time, a-a wall? Somebody’s face? A lot of things were broken yesterday. Yeah, yeah. As I recall, one of those things was your marriage. Yet you are still wearing your wedding ring. So what? So when you thought brenda betrayed you, she was dead-to-you dead, yet you still wearing that ring suggests that you’re not done with nina yet, suitcases or not. I gave up a lot to be with nina. It felt like the whole world was against us. Oh, I see, I see. So if you take off that ring, you throw it in the river, and, uh, you get rid of nina, you’re, what, proving all the naysayers right? I don’t care what people think. True that. Doesn’t matter what they think. What do you think? I thought that I fell in love with someone who made mistakes, who can own up to them, learn from them. But now…I find out nina is a traitor. She went against my family. For months. And lied to me. I will not forget that. Doctor says I’ll live, thanks to the grace of god. It wasn’t god who put you in this hospital bed, though. Cyrus, why don’t you just tell me what happened? Are you asking as the mayor or as my family? Both. Yeah. I mean, what kind of relationship are we going to have if you can’t tell me who beat you to within an inch of your life? Once you know the answer, you may well be sorry you asked. Why not let me worry about that? I was beaten by your friend sonny corinthos.

Rsv can severely affect

Arexvy is a vaccine

from rsv

Rsv can be serious

for those over 60,

includin sonny corinthos did this to you? Why the shock, sister? Because I don’t think that sonny is that easily provoked. Do we know the same sonny corinthos?

[ Sighs ] Okay, yeah, I know he has a temper. I’ve seen it. He yells. He — he — he throws things. He breaks things.

[ Laughs, coughs ] He’s been known to break more than “things.” Uh-huh. Well, still, I-it would be highly unusual for sonny to beat someone up himself, a-and randomly, to the point of putting them in the hospital. “Wrath is cruel and anger is outrageous.” Proverbs.

[ Sighs ] Sonny is a deeply unhappy man. He took his feelings of hurt and betrayal out on a convenient target — me. Why, though? What did you do to betray him? Oh, not I, sister. Sonny was sinned against by his spouse. Are you talking about nina? I was merely in the wrong place at the wrong time. And so sonny unleashed his frustrations on me. You must have assumed that carly and drew would end up in prison. And carly’s daughter donna is, what, five, six? Drew’s daughter, scout, is a few years older. However angry you were at the parents, it’s unlike you to do something hurtful to those girls. Yeah, it is. I mean

[Sighs] I wasn’t thinking. I had tunnel vision. I could only think about my pain, nobody else’S. And, yeah, why would anyone forgive me? Nina, after what I did to you, you should have never spoken to me again. And look at us. Here we are. If you could forgive me, then give others a chance to do the same for you. That’s what I want. Then let it happen, and don’t force it, like every instinct in your body is screaming for you to do. Just let it be and you might get what you want. Well, what I want may be very different than what I deserve. Nina tried to get carly locked up, separated from her children. D-donna is just a little girl. And not only that, but nina profited from carly’s misfortune, right? I mean, she ended up with her half of the metro court. That snake is lining her pockets with your ex’s misery. Now, I have never, never had much to say about carly, right? But this? She didn’t deserve this. Nina crossed the line — too many lines. And I mean, if she could do something so reprehensible to the mother of your children, what else is she capable of? I mean, could you even ever trust her again? Then again, I guess love just doesn’t disappear overnight. So, any issues with your pay?

[ Chuckling ] Oh. No, no, no. If I knew that I could make this much money without rigging poker games, I would have become a spokesmodel a long time ago. Sorry. Wait. What about poker games? Oh, that stuff — that’s just all part of my checkered past. Don’t you want to know how I’m gonna spend my honest living? Okay. How? Uh, real estate. Oh. What? Do you not think that’s a good idea? I was just surprised. I mean, I see why you want to move out of the quartermaine stables.

[ Laughs ] Hell no. No, their stables are nicer than most people’s homes. And I am a long ways away from giving up on mama q’s cooking. Mmm. I hear that. Yeah. I-I-I’m thinking about an investment property. Do you have a place in mind? Because lucy, with all her many professions, is also a real estate agent. Well, you know, maybe on the next one. But for now, I’m gonna start with serenity.

[ Chuckles ] That sounds like a commune. It does, doesn’t it? No. It’s, um — it’s the estate that I grew up on. Okay, I thought you said you had a tough childhood. Oh, yeah. No, it was the worst. Yeah, they treated me like the hired help. Okay, then why would you want to buy the property? Want to bring everything full circle. My — my mother was the original owner. Right. Because dominique was your mother, you’re the rightful heir to leopold taub’s fortune. A mug? Oh. Or a vase, maybe? Pen holder? It’s sweet.

[ Crying ] Look. She kept it all this time. Oh, my gosh. She’s so young. Did you ever see pictures of her in her first uniform? Yeah, yeah, I did. Gosh, those hats that they made the nurses wear back then.

[ Laughs ] Yep, but she pulled it off. She did. Yeah. I don’t know how that hat stayed on. She had all that mane of red hair. Well, we all had the hair. We did all have the hair. Oh, my god.

[ Laughter ] Yeah, we had the hair. Oh. I just realized I won’t ever get to laugh with her again.

[ Sniffles ]

I mean, like this… and doing this with you, it made all the difference. It was an honor to help. Bobbie once said that grief… …is more bearable if you can help someone else. And the way that we honor the ones that we’ve lost…

[Crying] Is to embrace the living.

[ Cellphone ringing ] Oh, sorry. No. Go for it. Okay. Hello? Yes, this is felicia scorpio. Oh. The results are ready? Okay, I’ll be right there. What is that about? The living. So according to cyrus, their confrontation was completely personal and not business-related at all. Yeah, it’s just not like sonny to settle old scores like that. No, I know. He, uh — he apparently was privy… to some information about sonny’s marriage — something that sonny didn’t know. Did your father say anything to you? Not a word. I’m not trying to impose anything on scout, and I’m not trying to get back at you. I’m just saying that we have to be on the same page when we make such a huge change in our daughter’s life. I know. You’re right. I, uh… I’m really sorry. I-I don’t know why I picked a fight with you. Then why did you? Drew, we don’t fight, especially over how to raise our daughter. Do you want to tell me what’s actually going on? I guess I just — I guess I feel hurt that, um, scout didn’t lead on to how she really felt about westwood academy. I thought that, you know, we formed a really good bond since I’ve been back. Come on. Of course you have. Well, then why did she tell you and that she didn’t tell me? She doesn’t feel like she can come to me? No. I think she saw how excited you were and didn’t want to disappoint you. Scout loves you. She loves being close to you. She doesn’t want that to change. And w– and what kept you from coming to me? I know how much you hated missing out on being scout’s dad, not being able to be her father all those years that victor had you locked up in greece. And now I lost even more time because of nina. Everyone told sonny, “nina, she’s a liar. Nina, she can’t be trusted.” And it’s like I went out of my way to prove them right. You know, I am not equipped or qualified to be someone’s mother or a grandmother or…a wife. That couldn’t be further from the truth, nina. Well, truth or not, you know, sasha, it’s what everyone believes. No, not everyone. Kristina and dante support your relationship. Kristina and dante supported it as long as I was making their father happy, which is definitely not the case anymore. I mean, dante will probably stay out of the fray, but kristina? She will gladly rain hellfire down on me every chance she gets. Okay, uh, what about the kids? They all love you. They do love me, and I love them. But that doesn’t matter anymore. That’s all over. Carly will make sure of that. It’s not entirely carly’s decision. Okay, it’s michael. He hates me. It’s willow. It’s sonny. I wouldn’t completely count out willow. Oh, you didn’t see her face when she found out what I did. Sasha, she recoiled, literally. And who blames her? My own daughter did that.

[ Sighs ] I’m so sorry, nina. I have no one to blame but myself. Look, what’s done is done. You have accepted it. That’s great. You’ve owned up to it. That’s even better. Now you just have to ask yourself, what can I do to fix it? Wow. I have had nina’s number since the day she came to port charles 10 years ago, and I know firsthand what that woman is capable of when she gets scorned. Wow. No wonder why you came in hot today. Well, thank you for giving me an out. But I think, to be honest, our issues have nothing to do with nina. I… I made decisions about scout’s life without including you, and — and that is not fair. Thank you for saying that. You’ve gone so far out of your way to include me in every aspect of scout’s life. That’s why I didn’t want to undercut the whole westwood thing. Even if you didn’t think it was a good idea? No, I never said that. I didn’T. Actually, I think westwood is a fantastic school. Molly and kristina loved it, and I think scout might love it one day, too. We give her some time and… maybe just a little space. And not uproot her in the middle of a school year. I see your point, finally. I think this is our first major difference of opinion… in raising our daughter. Wow. I don’t know what to do. I mean… where do we go from here? You know what, sonny? You’re right. And I’m sorry. I didn’t say anything. You didn’t have to. Your face said it all, and then your shoulders seconded it. I get it. It’s — it’s none of my business, you know. I don’t have a right to say how you live your life. You don’t judge me, do you? Of course I don’T. That is not what friends do. Now go get me some rubbing alcohol so I can tend to your knuckles. Go.

[ Knock on door ] What, the bodyguard’s on a coffee break? Morning, lois. Oh, hey, dante. Come in. Is, uh, my father here? Uh, yeah, he is. And I am so glad you’re here because sonny’s had a really rough morning. And you know what? He’s gonna be so happy to see his son here. Yeah. Not today, he won’T. Buying the estate, fulfilling your childhood dream of revenge just feels hollow. In what way? Well, like bobbie and her brother, luke. They had a very tough upbringing, too. And I asked her one time how she was able to move past it, and she said that nursing gave her a sense of purpose. So what I want to ask is, what is your purpose? Huh? Yeah, I… I’m not sure. I mean, I don’t even know if I have a purpose. Felicia: Nonsense! We all do. If you’refelicia. Hello. Sorry for eavesdropping. Occupational hazard. This is not still your occupation. Actually, though, I’m — I’m glad that you overheard us, ’cause you’ve — you’ve done a whole bunch of things, right? And then some. So maybe you could help me get some insight on finding my purpose. I sure can. First, you start by being honest with yourself and then you extend that honesty to others. Alright, well, that sounds easy enough. For instance, you could start by being honest about having your dna tested to determine if you are mac’s son. Mom, stop. I asked you to drop this. I know, maxie. I-I didn’T. Felicia, it’s like I said, the test came up negative. No, not that test. That was last year’s test. Oh. Well, then what are you talking about? I’m talking about the new test that I ran on you behind your back. I guess we’re just gonna have to figure out a way to navigate this. I’m sure we will. And then maybe we can revisit the whole westwood academy thing next year. I mean, if scout wants. A lot can happen in a year. Yeah, don’t I know it. I just… I hate the fact that she was worried about disappointing me. Ah, that’s just kids. Well, most of them anyway. Yeah. When I see her, I’m gonna make sure that she knows, no matter what she does, no matter what she says, that I will — I’ll always be her biggest fan. Well, she’s yours. Still? Always. Well, that’s something, right? Hey, drew? I know that you have had a really, really tough year. Scout’s not the only one who cares about you. So if you ever need to talk, I’m here. Thank you. I told dante. That couldn’t have been easy, especially given the high esteem in which you hold sonny. Look, this is not about me and sonny. This is about you, first and last. You flatter me. Fortunately, sins of pride have long since lost their allure. What about sins of omission? Because it’s clear to me that you’re holding back a lot here. What’s clear is that you will always be inclined to defend your friend corinthos, even after he’s attacked your own brother. I’ve known sonny for decades — decades. I’ve known you a lot less. As I’ve told you on several occasions, sonny corinthos is no better than the man I used to be.

[ Sighs ] Okay, look, cyrus, you know what my terms are with you. If you want to be a member of my family… more than anything. Okay. So you need to prove to me that you’re worthy of my trust. And that doesn’t mean running around quoting the bible all the time. No. It means proving it to me through your actions. Whatever you require of me, I shall do. I told willow that I noticed the two of you have one common virtue. Really? Well, it’s nice to know I have a virtue right now. What is it? You both have a great capacity for forgiving. I hope you’re right. I pray that my daughter will forgive me, especially since my husband never will. So, I’m sorry, dante, but whatever this is, it’s gonna have to wait. Lois. Lois. I need you to back off. Let me do my job, okay? Oh, sonny, look who’s here. It’s dante. I guess — I guess, uh, bad news travels fast. Yeah, I just heard about nina. I’m sorry. Yep. Appreciate it. I also apologize in advance for this. Officer carter. What?! Dante, he’s your own father. It’s alright, it’s alright. It wouldn’t be the first time for either of us. Not another word until your lawyer is present, okay? What is going on? Well, I just came from seeing cyrus renault at G.H. I really wish I didn’t have to do this, but I do. Michael “sonny” corinthos, I’m placing you under arrest for the second degree assault of cyrus renault. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.

Days of Our Lives Update

Days of Our Lives logo

Update written by Joseph

Chanel and Johnny wake up in bed together in Johnny’s room. They talk about feeling like they never left. Johnny credits Paulina telling Chanel not to come home as he was happy to bring her to his home and his bed. Chanel tells Johnny that last night was a first for her.

Paulina wakes up to find Abe made breakfast. Paulina at first gets excited that he remembered her favorites but Abe says he just made what was in the refridgerator. Abe apologizes but Paulina says it’s not his fault that he doesn’t remember anything. Abe clarifies that he’s sorry about last night.

At the police station, Theresa thanks Justin for coming and apologizes for calling him on a holiday but she’s so scared for Tate. Justin tells her not to apologize as he’s available 24/7 for family and he knows Alex is worried about Theresa and Tate. Theresa says she really appreciates that and says she didn’t know if things were okay between them since things were tense at Christmas dinner and because of Alex. Alex then arrives and brings Theresa a latte, noting that he did so even though she kicked him out of the hospital last night. Alex greets Justin and asks what he’s doing there. Theresa explains that she called him to take Tate’s case. Justin gets a text that Tate’s arraignment will be at 11 AM. Alex thanks Justin for taking care of that and then tells him that he can go now because he’s hired somebody else to represent Tate.

In the interrogation room, Brady reminds Tate that he and Theresa told him to stay far away. Tate responds that he was going to but he couldn’t let Brady take the fall for something he didn’t do. Brady argues that he wasn’t going to let Tate take the fall either, pointing out that the cops saw him with the pills. Tate shouts that the pills weren’t his. Brady says he knows that but it looks bad because the cops saw he and Holly at the scene. Brady knows Tate thinks he can handle this but he can’t. Brady warns that EJ is out for blood, so it’s better his than Tate’s. Tate argues that he would be tried in juvenile court while Brady won’t. Tate declares this is his battle and asks Brady to let him fight it. John enters and comments on things sounding tense. Brady says things are fine. Tate reveals that he asked John to bring him a suit for his arraignment. Brady complains about Tate being stubborn which John says sounds like someone else he knows.

EJ calls Rafe from the hospital and says he wants every detail on Tate’s arraignment as it concerns the citizens of Salem. Rafe comments on knowing EJ’s demands and mutters that it’s a personal vendetta but agrees to keep him posted. Rafe asks how Holly is doing. EJ informs him that she had another seizure but she’s stable now and Nicole hasn’t left her side. Rafe promises to give EJ any updates that he can and tells him to be with his wife because she needs him. EJ responds that he would, but Nicole has company as she’s with Eric.

Theresa questions Alex hiring another lawyer. Alex argues that family is not what Theresa needs right now and that she needs a high powered ruthless attorney which is not Justin’s style. Justin agrees and says his style is facts and fighting for what’s right. Alex says that’s all good but he made some phone calls but he used his resources to hire Tate the best and that’s what is happening. Theresa tells him no, that is not what is happening.

John tells Brady that they can only move forward and Tate is going to be arraigned, so they need to remain optimistic. Tate tells John to tell Marlena that he’s sorry for sneaking out and asks how Holly is doing. John says she’s about the same. Tate apologizes to Brady for not telling him when Holly showed him the drugs and for not calling 911 right away, explaining that he was so afraid of her getting in trouble when he should’ve been more afraid that she could die.

Johnny offers to make Chanel breakfast which she accepts. Johnny notes that he wouldn’t mind dessert for breakfast as they kiss until Chanel’s phone goes off. Chanel checks her phone and sees that it’s EJ, who says he’s been trying to reach Johnny. Johnny acknowledges that he left his phone on silent all night and checks it, finding out that everyone has been trying to get a hold of him. Johnny is shocked to find out that Holly overdosed and jumps out of bed to get dressed, saying he has to get to the hospital.

Abe wants Paulina to understand that he thought it would be wrong for them to be intimate when he doesn’t remember what they had. Paulina says she does understand and promises not to hold it against him. Abe assures that he loves the woman that he is getting to know as they kiss until Chanel comes home. Chanel apologizes for interrupting and asks if she should leave them alone.

Theresa tells Alex that she appreciates him wanting the best for them, but insists that they have that in Justin and he knows Tate. Theresa asks if this has something to do with dinner the other night but Alex claims it doesn’t. Theresa argues that she and Brady trust Justin and so does Tate. Theresa declares that Justin is going to be dealing with this case. Justin appreciates her confidence but says he’s open to having a consulting lawyer. Rafe comes over and agrees that might not be a bad idea. Alex points out that even the cops are saying they need to lawyer up more. Rafe acknowledges that it’s no secret that EJ is out for blood and he has an axe to grind with Tate. Rafe states that punishing Tate if he’s innocent is not going to help anyone.

John encourages Tate to stop blaming himself as it’s not going to change a thing. John says he and Brady will be right outside as he gets dressed for his arraignment. John tells Brady that he knows he’s trying to help but Tate needs to do this himself. Brady worries that John is fooling himself with EJ as the district attorney and declares there is no way that Tate will get justice.

Johnny goes to the hospital and asks EJ how Holly is and why he’s not in there with her. EJ responds that it’s not a good time. EJ informs Johnny that Holly is in a coma. Johnny asks if he can go see her. EJ repeats that it’s not a good time as Nicole is in there and she’s with Eric.

Chanel apologizes again for interrupting but Abe says she didn’t interrupt. Paulina says they were just having a lovely breakfast that Abe made for her. Abe decides to go get dressed and leaves the room while Chanel comments that it looks like last night went well. Paulina confirms that she and Abe had a long talk where she told him everything about her medical condition. Chanel is glad that she told him and asks how he responded. Paulina says that Abe was supporting, caring, and that he’s going to be there for her. Paulina adds that Abe told her that he loves her which Chanel calls wonderful. Chanel points out that Abe is still here and was in his pajamas but Paulina clarifies that they slept in separate beds. Chanel asks why. Paulina explains that it wasn’t the right time but they talked this morning and they are in a better place now. Paulina asks how Chanel’s New Year’s Eve was and where she went after the party. Chanel admits that she went back to Johnny’s place and thinks back to last night where her and Johnny were kissing and talking about how it had been two years since they had been together. Johnny ended up saying he was hungry and pulling out whipped cream which he said he was going to eat off of her. Chanel then informs Paulina that their New Year’s Eve was pretty sweet.

John and Brady come out of the interrogation room where Brady confronts Theresa about letting Tate come here to confess. Theresa explains that he snuck out while Brady argues that if Tate would’ve just gone back to boarding school like he wanted him to, none of this would be happening. Theresa blames Brady for letting Tate do what he wanted. Justin interrupts and says that Tate needs all of them on the same side. Alex says that’s not going to happen but he’s on Theresa’s side. John says to just focus on Tate. Justin talks about being optimistic since there is very little concrete evidence against Tate and the arraignment will be quick. Justin states that Tate will plead not guilty and the judge will set bail and a trial date while Tate will be released to a parent’s supervision which he assumes will be Brady which he confirms. Justin repeats that the hearing will be quick so he suggests going to court with Tate alone while they stay here. Brady and Theresa try to argue but Justin says based on what he saw here, it’s for the best because the judge will not tolerate outbursts. John agrees that they should let Justin do his job. Tate then comes out of the interrogation room and announces that he’s ready.

Johnny questions Nicole being in Holly’s room with Eric while EJ is just out here. EJ explains that Nicole is beside herself with worry, so he wasn’t going to just storm in and pull her out of Eric’s arms. Johnny calls that out of character for EJ. EJ acknowledges that Eric has been in Holly’s life for a long time so he is a great comfort to Nicole. EJ says that Nicole needs him to take care of business. EJ declares that Nicole has been blaming herself while this is all on the shoulders of Tate. Johnny questions Tate being responsible. EJ argues that Holly never used drugs until Tate came around. Johnny asks if he’s sure about that. EJ blames Tate’s parents and suggests the apple didn’t fall far from the rotten tree. EJ declares that Tate almost killed Holly, so he will never let him anywhere near her again.

Brady complains about waiting at the police station. John suggests they go get some fresh air and tells Theresa to let them know when Justin and Tate come back. Alex tells Theresa that he knows that he got under her skin last night and he’s trying not to be that guy, but he asks if she’s sure that Tate is telling the truth. Theresa says of course he is as she and Tate have talked many times about drugs, alcohol, and addiction and he would never go down that road. Alex argues that kids don’t always listen and they learn the hard way from their own mistakes. Theresa hears what he’s saying but says she can’t go down that road as she has to believe that her son is telling the truth. Alex apologizes for being cynical and decides that if Theresa believes Tate, so does he, as he then hugs her.

Brady and John walk to the park. Brady complains that Theresa should’ve locked Tate in his room. John feels they both could’ve handled things better. Brady asks how. John points out that trying to take the fall doesn’t always work out. Brady hopes he didn’t screw up Tate’s case. John assures that everyone knows he was trying to protect his son. Brady asks if it’s not possible after all that he and Theresa did to make sure that Tate did not follow in their footsteps and do drugs. John acknowledges that kids make mistakes, so if he did do drugs, the family will rally around him to get him the help he needs but his gut says that Tate is telling the truth. Brady prays that he’s right.

Johnny asks how EJ can be so sure that it was Tate that gave Holly the drugs. EJ calls Tate a punk who is nothing but trouble. Johnny reveals to EJ that Holly got drunk on Christmas Eve while EJ and Nicole were at Green Mountain. EJ questions not knowing about this. Johnny says that kids don’t tell their parents everything but he rushed over to make sure Holly was okay. EJ asks if he saw her drunk which Johnny confirms. EJ acknowledges that Nicole didn’t think it was a good idea to leave Holly alone on her birthday and it obviously wasn’t. Johnny explains that Holly was trying to be supportive of EJ and Nicole and didn’t want to be selfish. Johnny blames himself for not keeping a closer eye on Holly at the party. EJ insists that this is nobody’s fault but Tate’s.

Paulina tells Chanel that nothing makes her happier than seeing her smile. Chanel repeats that she’s sorry for interrupting her and Abe. Paulina tells her not to be, assuring that things were not going any further than the kiss that she walked in on. Paulina asks about Chanel saying she had a sweet night with Johnny and asks what they did. Chanel responds that they just shared a little late night dessert as she flashes back to that night with whipped cream. Chanel tells Paulina that Johnny said he’d love to have late night dessert more often. Paulina comments that it’s not always a good idea to have something rich so late at night.

Johnny tells EJ that if Holly was drinking and he didn’t know about it, he thinks it’s possible that she could’ve been doing other things too. EJ argues that Holly isn’t like that and is a good kid. Johnny says that good kids do drugs and it happens. Johnny points out that Tate was there for Holly. Johnny says that he told Holly to lean on Tate, so if EJ is going to be mad at Tate, he should be mad at him too. EJ then gets a call and steps away to answer.

Brady and John return to the police station where Alex tells them there’s no news yet. Brady apologizes to Theresa for jumping down her throat earlier as it was not her fault that Tate snuck out. Theresa understands that emotions are running high and thanks him. Justin and Tate return. Tate happily announces that he made bail, relieving everyone as Justin says he can go home.

Chanel sits with Abe and Paulina as Abe talks about wondering about Holly. Paulina calls it such a tragedy. Chanel notes that Johnny said he would call as soon as he can. Paulina is glad that Holly moved on from Johnny to Tate since he’s her own age. Chanel worries that if Tate gave Holly the drugs, he could be in some big trouble. Abe says his heart goes out to Holly as this drug epidemic is out of control and people are overdosing every day and dying. Paulina wishes she knew how to stop it. Chanel encourages that she’s doing the best she can. Paulina says when she got the report of another overdose this morning, she had no idea it was someone they knew and it hits close to home. Abe decides he should get to the hospital in case Nicole needs him. Paulina calls him a good man and says she will call to find out what exactly happened since Rafe should be able to tell her more by now.

Johnny walks through the park and calls Chanel. Chanel asks how Holly is. Johnny responds that she’s not good as she’s in a coma, hooked up to tubes, and almost died. Chanel asks what happened. Johnny informs her that she overdosed outside the Bistro right after they left. Chanel wishes they went with Tate to look for her. Chanel asks if Holly was using and if the drugs were Holly’s or Tate’s. Johnny says no one really knows and EJ seems to think Tate was responsible but he left and said he’d come back later. Chanel mentions that she’s home with Paulina and Abe and that Paulina told her about last night. Johnny invites Chanel to breakfast at the Pub. Chanel agrees to meet him there and says she wants to hear more about Holly and Tate. Chanel asks where Tate is now. Johnny responds that he’s not sure but he knows EJ is bound and determined to hold Tate responsible. Johnny worries that EJ is furious and enraged, so he hopes he doesn’t do anything crazy..

At the police station, Rafe comments that it’s like a New Year’s party as Theresa, Brady, and Alex thank Justin. Justin points out that it was just the arraignment while Brady notes that who knows what could’ve happened with EJ in charge. John decides to put on a big lunch for all of them and leaves the station. Brady asks if they can leave but Justin says he has to pick up the release papers from the court and exits. Rafe encourages Tate to get some rest. Tate says he really just wants Holly to be okay. Rafe gets a call and steps away to answer. Brady tells Alex and Theresa that he’d love it if they came to lunch at the house which they agree to. Theresa talks about being relieved as Tate says he just wants to get out of here. Brady says it’s one step at a time but Tate is coming home. Justin returns and announces that he just got a call from the assistant district attorney. Rafe returns and announces that he just got a call from the judge, who has reversed his decision and revoked Tate’s bail. Rafe reveals that Tate’s not going anywhere as he has to take him back in to custody.

Days Short Recap Thursday, January 4, 2024

Daytime Soap Opera Short Recaps

Days of Our Lives logo

Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

While Johnny and Chanel were in bed together, EJ texted Chanel. EJ texted her because he couldn’t get in touch with Johnny. Johnny checked his phone and realized EJ reached out to him. He found out Holly overdosed. Johnny wanted to go to the hospital. EJ told Rafe that he wanted to be kept informed about Tate’s arraignment. Rafe asked about Holly’s condition. EJ told him she had another seizure. Rafe suggested he be with Nicole. EJ said she was with Eric. Johnny showed up at the hospital and wanted to know about Holly. EJ said it wasn’t a good time to see her. Johnny thought it was strange of EJ to stand by and allow Nicole to be with Eric. EJ said he had to take care of things. He was convinced Tate had something to do with it and was determined to keep Holly away from him. Johnny said Holly got drunk on Christmas Eve, but EJ thought Tate was responsible for what happened. Theresa was grateful that Justin came to help Tate. Alex showed up and said the arraignment was scheduled soon. Alex said they needed a ruthless and high-powered attorney to help Tate. Theresa said she appreciated Alex’s help, but she and Brady trusted Justin to handle the case. Justin said he would have a consultant attorney on call.

Tate told Brady he didn’t want him taking the blame for something he didn’t do which was why he told the truth. Brady said he couldn’t handle it by himself. He said EJ wanted Tate’s blood. Tate said he wanted to fight his own battle. John brought Tate a suit for the arraignment. He told Brady to remain optimistic. Tate apologized for not calling for help when he found Holly unconscious. Brady said he didn’t think Tate would get justice with EJ as the D.A. Justin assured everyone that there was little evidence against Tate. He said Tate would plead not guilty at the arraignment and the judge would set a trial date and bail. Justin said Tate would be released into parental supervision since he was a minor. He thought Brady would assume parental responsibility for Tate. Justin said he would go to the hearing alone. Alex asked Theresa if Tate was innocent. She said she was sure her son didn’t do drugs. John and Brady went to the park. Brady was convinced that he might have hurt Tate’s case by taking the blame. It made it look as if Tate was trying to hide something. John said he was trying to protect his son. Brady questioned if Tate followed in his and Theresa’s footsteps and got involved in drugs. John said his instincts told him Tate was innocent. When everyone went back to the police station, Tate told them he made bail. Later on, Tate found out the judge changed the decision and revoked bail.

Young & The Restless Transcript

Transcript provided by Suzanne

Chance: Good morning.

Sharon and summer: Chance.

Sharon: Good morning.

Chance: What did I just walk in on?

Summer: Nothing. Nothing. We were talking about marchetti’s new fashion line that’s coming out soon. Uh, speaking of marchetti, I gotta get to work or else I’ll be late for a meeting.

Chance: Well, I, uh, I have a feeling that conversation wasn’t about fashion, was it.

Sharon: Why would you say that?

Chance: Well, I might not be a cop anymore, but I’m still enough of a detective to suspect that you guys were talking about me.

Claire: Victoria, how long have you been here?

Victoria: Not that long. How are you feeling?

Claire: I’m not sure how to answer that.

Nikki: Claire! What– what’s going on? Where am I? Oh, my god. No. No. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it! Get out of my head.

Audra: Nikki. Are you all right?

Sharon: Actually, we were talking about you. We were just singing your praises, talking about how handsome and charming you are.

Chance: Oh, yeah? Is that why you guys got real quiet and had some guilty looks on your face when I walked in?

Sharon: Well, we didn’t wanna feed any more fuel to that enormous ego of yours.

Chance: Mm. So, that’s your story? That’s what you’re sticking with?

Sharon: What? You don’t believe me?

Chance: No, I just got a totally different vibe when I walked in. Hey, I can take a hint. None of my business. I do appreciate the flattering cover story. Please feel free to tell me lies like that anytime you want.

Audra: Please don’t think I am being intrusive, but I know a little bit about your history, so I think I might have some idea of what you’re going through.

Nikki: Do you now?

Audra: You know, fighting alcoholism, it’s a never-ending war of temptation and willpower. I know how stress and trauma can have an effect on your ongoing fight.

Nikki: And how would you know this?

Audra: I lived on the battlefield with my father for a very, very long time. Until he lost the war.

Nikki: Oh, I’m so sorry. To lose your father in such a painful way.

Audra: He tried. We both did.

Nikki: It must be difficult sharing something so private from your past.

Audra: Yeah. I don’t want to make this about me. My point is that I understand if that’s part of what you’re going through. I know how difficult it can be. You know, the guilt, the fear, and the toll that can take on you and your family. So, if you ever need someone to talk to…

Claire: You brought me books?

Victoria: Yeah, I did. A couple of my favorites.

Claire: Were you reading to me from them when I was sleeping?

Victoria: No. No, I was just talking. It’s just an excuse to sit by you for a little while and ramble a bit. Or maybe if you heard my voice and you were dreaming, maybe that would bring you out of any nightmare you might be having.

Claire: Nothing can stop the nightmares. They’re waiting for me every time I close my eyes. Sometimes, even when I’m awake.

Victoria: So, is there anything you would want to talk about?

Claire: I was dreaming about the cabin. When nikki and jordan were fighting. In the dream, I– I shot my aunt and I killed her. In real life, I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t pull the trigger, but in the dream, it felt like I had no choice. Like it was all up to me to stop her.

Victoria: I’m so sorry that that’s what you have to go through when you’re trying to rest, but it does make sense.

Claire: That I become a killer?

Victoria: No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Not that. It’s just that maybe you– in your– your mind is trying to kill your connection to your aunt jordan, so that her hold over your life will be gone for good. Like sort of a release. It could be a positive sign.

Claire: Then, why do I feel so guilty about it?

Victoria: I don’t know. I imagine that you feel guilty about everything that’s happened. And it’s seeping into your dreams. But maybe this is your mind’s way of letting go. Getting beyond all the pain and the hurt. This is something that you could bring up at your next therapy session if you wanted to. I talked to your doctors. They’re really ready to help you. Have you had a chance to share anything with them yet? Are you starting to feel more comfortable here?

Claire: The only thing I feel is more and more frightened.

Summer: I still can’t believe that sally did all of this.

Daniel: Yeah. Is that your way of saying that you like it?

Summer: Well, you know, I’m, um, I’m just surprised, that’s all. It’s really modern, but still warm and inviting.

Daniel: Oh. Is that why you came over here? So you could critique my decor ’cause you know you saw all of this at christmas.

Summer: No, I, well, I wanted to say hi to you. I just, you know, I wanted to see you. I want to see lucy. I want to see how you guys were doing and how the break was going. If you guys are bonding and you know, doing winter activities.

Daniel: Okay. Okay, stop. Stop. What’s really going on?

Summer: Daniel, I just need a sane person to talk to. That’s it. And I– I just– I can’t talk to mom because I already know what her advice is. And it just– it doesn’t help me at all.

Daniel: Okay. So this is about chance, right?

Summer: Are you serious right now? Does everybody in this town know what I’m feeling without me saying it. I mean god, it’s embarrassing.

Daniel: No, I doubt everyone knows.

Summer: Oh, nice. So, you’re saying that most– most people know? Cool, cool. Yeah. You know what? That makes me feel a lot better. You’re the best brother ever. Thank you.

Daniel: You’re welcome.

Summer: I don’t know what I’m doing. I don’t know what I’m doing. I– I– I mean, I– I am a ceo. I’m a– I’m a mom. I– I do deals. I handle contracts. I help with school craft projects. I’m busy. I don’t have time for this. I don’t have time to be tied in knots over some guy, especially not one that’s involved with somebody else.

Daniel: Well, if you’re looking for advice, you’re asking the wrong person because I don’t know what to tell you. I’m a little busy being tied up with my own emotional mess.

Summer: Your emotional mess? What does that mean? What’s going on with you? I mean, is it lily?

Daniel: You know, I’d rather not talk about it right now.

Summer: Really? ‘Cause I think that you do wanna talk about it because you were the one that brought it up. Come on, daniel. What else are siblings for? This, this right here, it’s a safe space.

Daniel: I think that heather might be trying to start something up between us. Romantically.

Summer: Oh.

Victoria: Claire, you’re safe now. There’s nothing to be afraid of anymore. Know jordan is never coming back for you.

Claire: Just the thought of her terrifies me. But there’s so much more that scares me. This place. My life. My thoughts and my feelings. Everything about me. I’ll never escape my past. And the nightmares, I feel like I’m never really gonna sleep again. And I’ll never feel normal. I’ll never feel safe.

Victoria: I know. I know it feels that way now. And sometimes, when you’re hurting, it’s hard to see past the pain. It feels like it’s gonna be like this forever, but it’s not going to be. You just need some time and rest and therapy. And cole and i will be here for you.

Claire: How? How could you? How is that even possible? My entire existence has been about hating the newmans. About getting back at you for what I thought you had done to me. Never in a million years did I imagine that my mom, my real mom, would be sitting here at my bedside, trying to make sure that I’m okay. This wasn’t part of the plan. And I– I don’t know what comes next. And I don’t know if I’m strong enough to face whatever that is.

Victoria: What? No. You have survived so much already. I know it doesn’t feel like it, but you have. And you know what? That strength, that means that you’re gonna get through to the other side of everything you’ve been through.

Claire: But I’m so tired and it’s so hard and I hate the therapy sessions. I dread them. I don’t like talking about jordan. I don’t like talking about my childhood, or the lake house, or the cabin. I just– I wish I could just forget it all. Erase it from my brain. Erase my entire life.

Victoria: Well, I understand that. But what happened happened. And I mean, you can’t change it. You know, you just have to accept it and understand that it’s not your fault. And you can have a normal life. You can get stronger and better. Even if you don’t believe it. You will find real happiness again, I know it.

Claire: What if I don’t deserve happiness? What if I don’t even deserve to get better?

Audra: Look, I don’t mean to push or prod, but I have been to many al-anon meetings, so I understand the process. I spent what felt like a lifetime recognizing the signs of someone trying to cover their urge to drink.

Nikki: Well, it’s very kind of you to try to reach out, but you have misread the situation.

Audra: Have I?

Nikki: My family and I have just been through a very traumatic experience and we are dealing witit as best we can, together. So you needn’t worry, we will be fine. Thank you for your concern.

Audra: Understood.

Victoria: Claire, of course, you deserve to get better. You deserve happiness. You’ve deserved it your entire life. Jordan took that away from you, so now we’re gonna take it back. And doing that means you cannot blame yourself for what happened. You were emotionally manipulated. You were– in the worst possible way.

Claire: Even so, I’m not a child. I know better. I know the difference between right and wrong. Kidnapping, poisoning, attempted murder. I followed jordan’s directions. I stood beside her. I could have called someone. I could have done something, but I didn’T. I went along with it all, willingly. What I did was wrong in a million ways.

Victoria: Okay. Yes, that’s true, but what choice did you have? I mean, come on, really? Jordan raised you to– to rely on her. To trust and to respect her. She groomed you to do those things.

Claire: She is still locked up, right? She hasn’t been released on bail or anything like that, has she?

Victoria: Yes. No, she is still in custody. And I hope she spends the rest of her miserable life there.

Claire: But what happens if she gets out somehow?

Victoria: I promise you, I’m not gonna let that happen. She is going to pay for what she did for the rest of her life. Far away from you and locked up away from the rest of us.

Claire: Us? How can you be so supportive? How can you be so comforting? How can you even stand to look at me?

Nikki: Well, um, I would like a sparkling water with lime, please. Thank you.

Daniel: Wow. Nothing? Really? Well, you know, I’m gonna take it from your reaction or I guess I should probably say your nonreaction that you do think it’s a possibility that heather might want something more than a friendship.

Summer: Daniel, why wouldn’t she want to rekindle things?

Daniel: Why would she?

Summer: I don’t know. To be happy again? To be in love? To put her family back together like she probably feels it always should have been? Don’t you kind of want to see if there’s still a spark between you two?

Daniel: You know, a lot has happened since savannah. We– we both moved on with new people. Me with lily and heather sees that every single day.

Summer: Yeah, but that doesn’t stop people from feeling their feelings and acting on it.

Daniel: Really? Because it seems to have stopped you from acting on your feelings with chance.

Summer: Chance was never mine to begin with.

Chance: So, how’s the business? All things set on go?

Sharon: It is coming along masterfully, if I do say so myself. The launch is set for next week.

Chance: I’ll get my suit cleaned. If I’m invited, that is?

Sharon: You would be on the vip list, if there were one. What about you? Are you still looking at working at chancellor-winters?

Chance: Yeah, yeah. My grandmother’s very eager for me to come on board. I had a couple of meetings with her about the job and the actual start dates. And I met with billy too who volunteered to be my mentor, of all people, so…

Sharon: Why do you say it like that?

Chance: Well, I don’t think that’s the best idea.

Sharon: Well, billy, you know, he has a lot of experience in the corporate world. He’s worked in the c-suites of the most prestigious corporations in this town.

Chance: That’s a good point. Still, I don’t know, I just don’t think I want his particular brand of business sense influencing how I approach this, you know? From what I hear, he’s not the guy I need to be taking advice from right off the bat.

Sharon: Speaking of right off the bat influences, um, I have a question for you.

Chance: Okay. Ask away.

Sharon: If you and I weren’t dating and summer asked you out, would you be interested? If your moderate to severe crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis symptoms are stopping you in your tracks… choose stelara from the start… and mo ve toward relief after the first dose… with injections every two months.

Summer: The difference is, chance and I, we have zero history together. We haven’t even been on a date. You and heather, you were happy together for a long time. And honestly, if you hadn’t screwed up, you would probably still be together now.

Daniel: Yeah. No, I know that. And I kicked myself for a long time thinking about what I did. I mean, do you want the same thing for yourself? If– if you really like chance, are you willing to just pass this opportunity up?

Summer: Look, yes, I’m interested in chance, but what I’m not going to do is chase after him when he’s still hanging out with sharon. I don’t even know if we would be compatible as a couple.

Daniel: Yeah. I mean, you’re right. You know, our situations are different. I just– I feel like heather should respect that I’m in a new place emotionally now. You know, we have both moved on with new people. And just because her relationship didn’t work out, lily and I, we’re doing just fine.

Summer: Well, have you told heather that?

Daniel: Absolutely.

Summer: Okay. Well, then give her a second. Let it sink in. Just because she made a move once doesn’t mean she’ll do it again.

Daniel: You think so?

Summer: Yes. If you actually told her that you’re not interested in going back, then I do think that she’ll accept it. As long as you’re not sending mixed messages, then you’re good. And that is why I am not gonna make a move on chance because I know the situation. I know that he is still doing whatever he’s doing with sharon.

Daniel: Yeah, you keep coming back to that.

Summer: To what? What? What?

Daniel: It just– it sounds to me like you’re making an excuse for why you can’t make a move on this guy that you really like. Look, let me guess. You talked to mom. What did mom say? Go for it? If you want it to do whatever it takes, right? Something like that?

Summer: Hm. You know our mom.

Daniel: Okay. So, it sounds like you want a second opinion, but I guess the question is, are you hoping that I’m gonna contradict what she told you? Or are you maybe secretly hoping that I’m going back up the advice that she gave you.

Chance: Where did that come from, hm? This have something to do with what you guys were talking about earlier?

Sharon: It’s just something that I’ve picked up on.

Chance: And what’s that?

Sharon: Well, I noticed that summer was very happy when she went to the concert with you the other night. She enjoyed that so much, she couldn’t stop talking about it. And I think it was more than just the music that she enjoyed.

Chance: Well, I think you might be reading a little too much into that. That was one of summer’s favorite bands.

Sharon: Then, how do you explain the way she lights up when you walk in the room? I think that summer has developed feelings for you.

Chance: And I think you’re reaching a bit, sharon. We’re nothing but friends.

Sharon: All right. Humor me then. If you and I were not going out, would you be interested in dating her?

Chance: I have no idea how to answer that question. I’ve never thought about it.

Sharon: Totally hypothetical.

Chance: Sharon, I have no idea. However, there is something I do know.

Sharon: What’s that?

Chance: That I’m dating you. I like what we have.

Sharon: Then, tell me, just what is it we have?

Nate: Nikki. How are you?

Nikki: Hello, nate.

Nate: I hope you’re not upset with me.

Nikki: Well, you did tell my husband that you thought I was drinking again, so I’m not real thrilled with you.

Nate: Okay. But was I wrong?

Victoria: Look at me, claire. You know something? Looking into your eyes is not difficult for me. It’s not. And supporting you, it’s even easier. And do you want to know why? Because I want what’s best for you. That’s the least that you deserve. Do you know something? The more that I get to know you, the more I’m around you, the more I witness all of this courage and strength that’s inside of you.

Claire: How can i believe that?

Victoria: You can believe it because it’s true. You saved my mother’s life. And for that, I’m gonna be forever grateful. And standing up to your aunt, that– that was a remarkable act of bravery. And you can trust me when I say, I am so proud of you.

Claire: And the lake house? I saw your faces when you looked at me. There was fear and anger. What I did and the way that you felt, it’s always gonna be in the back of my mind. And I can’t imagine it’s not gonna be in the back of yours too.

Victoria: No, it’s not. It’s not gonna be easy to forget, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not being honest with you right now. I have faith in you and the life that you can have. I know– I know that maybe it doesn’t seem that way now, but maybe that’s something that we can work on, together.

Claire: Maybe you can’t see it because the shock hasn’t worn off yet. You just found out that you have a grown daughter who you thought died all those years ago. When you realize that I’m not that sweet, innocent baby that was taken from you, you’ll see who I really am. You’ll realize that there’s– there’s nothing left. Just a horrible, broken person who tortured you and tried to kill you. When that happens, seeing that look in your eyes, it might just kill me.

Victoria: Claire, please don’t say that. Don’t even think it. I swear to you, your father and I would never look at you that way. Never.

Claire: That’s not a promise you can keep because you can’t predict the future.

Victoria: Well, neither can you. Don’t do this. Don’t shut us out. We just found you. I mean, give us a chance to get to know you.

Claire: I’m sorry. It’s too hard. Every time I see you and cole, I just get this– just this knot in the pit of my stomach bracing for when you hate me again. Your baby died. Your baby eve died that day that she was taken from the hospital. Claire is someone else. Angry and alone. Rejected and abandoned and… I don’t know how I get past that.

Victoria: Look, I know it’s not gonna be easy, okay? But you have to know, you have to know that you’re not in this alone. We’re there with you. And we’ll– we’ll get through it, no matter how long it takes. We’ll just– we’ll get through it, together.

Claire: I’m not strong or brave like you think I am. These things that you think I can do, I just– I can’T. You will always be the parents that abandoned me. And I’m always gonna be the person who tortured you and your family.

Victoria: I don’t think that. I don’t think that and neither should you.

Claire: Please, go. And never come back.

Victoria: I should just– I should let you rest. I– I shouldn’t have come by.

Claire: You’re not listening.

Victoria: I should’ve… look, claire, I think we just need to take this one–

Claire: Just go! Leave! Okay? And do not come back! I’m gonna tell them not to let you visit, okay? This is it.

Victoria: Claire, please. Don’t do this. Let me in. Let me– please let me help you through this. Please.

Nate: Nikki, I alerted victor out of nothing other than concern for you. It wasn’t about malice or any kind of retaliation for letting me go from newman. It was just a doctor’s healing instinct. I guess it’s something you never lose.

Nikki: Well, I do appreciate that. Uh, it’s just that we have had a few family difficulties lately. I’m not going to get into details, but suffice it to say that my family is aware and supportive of my journey. And I am concerned about them as well.

Nate: I’m certainly sorry to hear that. Look, if there’s anything I can do–

Nikki: Thank you, but, uh, we will be fine. There’s no need for you to worry any longer. We will take care of it, together.

Nate: Okay. And um, stay strong and take care of yourself.

Summer: I don’t know what kind of advice I want. That’s why I’m here. But I am sick of dancing around it. I’m sick of feeling confused and I’ve tried everything. I’ve tried distracting myself. Like throwing myself into marchetti and focusing on harrison and doing all those things and– every time I see chance, all of the feelings and– and the questions just creep back in.

Daniel: Well, it sounds like you caught yourself a hard case of infatuation.

Summer: And honestly, I can’t help but wonder if it does go both ways.

Daniel: Well, then my next question is, do you have any reason to think that he and sharon are not happy?

Chance: You think something’s going on between summer and me?

Sharon: No. No, of course not. I– I think I know you better than that.

Chance: What is it? Then why all the questions? Do you think I’m developing feelings for summer?

Sharon: Well, I guess I couldn’t blame you if you did. She’s a beautiful, smart, successful woman.

Chance: And so are you. If not more so.

Sharon: Well, thank you for saying that. But this isn’t about me being insecure or jealous.

Chance: Okay. Then, what’s it about? If I didn’t know any better, it almost feels like you’re trying to provoke some kind of response out of me so you can make a move. Is this your sneaky way of ending things between us?

Sharon: No, that is not what I’m doing at all. Trust me, chance, I adore spending time with you. All of that charm and passion rolled into one sexy package.

Chance: You have a pretty sexy package too.

Sharon: But, I have to be honest with you. I’m not really looking for a serious relationship right now. I’ve just been through a lot in the last few years and I finally feel like my life is settling down and I just love the way that it is right now.

Chance: Well, I hope I haven’t given you the impression that I’m pushing for anything because I’m perfectly happy with the way things are.

Sharon: Okay. Good. Because I feel the same way. But, I know you have a big heart to share and I know that your last relationship got cut short, so it would only be natural that you’re still on the path of trying to find that one big love. And the last thing that I wanna do is lead you on or hold you back.

Chance: Hey, stop. I need you to understand that I am right where I want to be, doing exactly what I want to do, with you.

Summer: They seem pretty happy whenever I see them together, but I actually had this very strange conversation with sharon earlier today about all of this.

Daniel: What?

Summer: Yeah. I– I– I don’t want to get into it, but she basically said that– that they’re kind of just hanging out and having fun. And I got the impression that they hadn’t even discussed any type of future together.

Daniel: Wow. I mean, that sounds a lot like where things stand with me and lily.

Summer: Okay. Well, then that’s why heather thought that she could test the waters with you. And you know what? Screw it. I– I’m gonna do the same with chance.

Nikki: These numbers look good. Let finance know the project is approved.

Audra: All right.

Victoria: I’m sorry to interrupt, but I need to speak with my mother, privately.

Audra: Yeah, of course. Excuse me.

Nikki: Hi, darling. Is everything all right? You look– you look a little anxious.

Victoria: First of all, mom, how are you feeling? Are you sure that you’re ready to be back here at work?

Nikki: Well, I thought that I was. I thought the office would be a good distraction.

Victoria: Did something happen?

Nikki: I almost drank earlier. I– I got very overwhelmed and thought that I couldn’t go another moment without it.

Victoria: You said almost.

Nikki: Well, I consider it a small victory that I was able to stop, but victoria, it was so close.

Victoria: Thank god. That really took a lot of courage.

Nikki: Oddly enough, it was nate who pulled me back.

Victoria: Nate? I don’t understand? How did that happen?

Nikki: I ran into him at society. I don’t think he knew I was about to take a drink or maybe he did. I don’t know. Have you had any recent contact with him?

Victoria: No, not with everything that’s been going on. Besides, I don’t think he’s over being angry at me.

Nikki: Well, he didn’t seem angry at all. In fact, he seemed genuinely concerned for my well-being.

Victoria: Well, that’s not surprising. Despite what dad thinks of him, he is a very kind and compassionate man.

Nikki: Darling, what is it?

Victoria: It’s claire. I feel like maybe I’m losing my connection with her before it had a chance to grow. Mom, I’m scared. I’m scared that I might be losing her again, but this time forever.

Steffy: I still can’t believe it. I mean, what are the odds that he chooses you as his doctor? In all of L.A.? Do you think he came back here to stir up trouble?

Finn: For thomas.

Steffy: Well, could you think of another reason that he’d bring up emma’s death? Accuse my brother of murder?

Finn: I actually kinda had to pull it out of the guy.

Steffy: Well, when you did, xander didn’t hold back, right? He said that my brother is responsible for emma’s death. But he wasn’t, finn.

Thomas: Sure you don’t wanna change your mind? You’re allowed to reconsider. But not this time.

Hope: I’m sorry.

Thomas: No, I’m not. At least you didn’t throw the ring in my face. I’m serious! I just wanna be with you, so I can wait.

Rj: Hey, luna, can you hand me that sketch? Luna?

Luna: What? Oh. Sorry, I was just thinking about my mom.

Rj: Well, what are you– are you thinking about how the date’s going?

Luna: Look, I realize that bill spencer is not your favorite person.

Rj: Yeah, that’s– that’s putting it mildly.

Luna: Okay. But, my mom hasn’t had a man in her life in a really long time. So, who knows? Maybe bill could be the one.

Rj: The one?

Luna: Who changes her life forever.

Bill: I’m right, aren’t I?

Poppy: About what?

Bill: San francisco. Golden gate music fest. I realize it was a long time ago.

Poppy: Yes, bill. I remember. It was a wonderful night. One that I haven’t forgotten. Or ever will.

Rj: Wow. So, you’re expecting a lot from a first date.

Luna: No. It’s only if bill really does turn out to be the one.

Rj: The– the one who sweeps her mom off her feet?

Luna: Yeah. I mean, stranger things have happened.

Rj: Yeah. Especially when bill spencer’s involved.

Luna: Wait. What do you mean?

Rj: Let’s– let’s just say that he has quite, uh… a history with the ladies.

Luna: Should– should I be worried? Should my mom be?

Bill: I don’t know. I mean, I think that she can handle herself, but I don’t know her that well, so.

Luna: When it comes to my mom and men, I’ve always felt bad that my dad was never in the picture. I mean, not just for me, but… for my mom as well.

Bill: Thank you. So, you do realize I’ve got a million questions.

Poppy: That many?

Bill: All right. Maybe half a million. What’s that?

Poppy: Fortification. For all the intense questioning.

Bill: This is a date, all right? It’s not gonna be a cross examination.

Poppy: I’m joking. Hey, but this is all natural. It is guaranteed to put a smile on my face.

Bill: Fair enough.

Poppy: Can i admit something?

Bill: Sure.

Poppy: I was a little nervous about this date of ours and this will just take the edge off a little, much like your scotch.

Bill: So, back to that night all those years ago.

Poppy: Hm.

Bill: A chance encounter that turned into something more.

Poppy: Well, I don’t wanna put you on the spot, but I never heard from you again. You never called.

Bill: I meant to. I really did. It’s just that… after the festival, it was– it was back to work. Uh, at that time of my life, I was all about building my company into what it is today. You might even call it an obsession. I had no room in my life for anything else. And if that’s– that’s a lame excuse, I know.

Poppy: No, it isn’T. You had a life to live and so did I.

Bill: You’re very sweet to let me off the hook, but I am sorry, poppy. More than you know.

Thomas: You may not be wearing the engagement ring on your finger, but I think it’s wonderful right where it is, next to your heart. It’s kinda where it belongs. And in the mean time, I’ll keep reminding you how happy I can make you.

Hope: I am happy.

Thomas: I know, yeah. I am too, but think about how much happier we’ll be if we were like husband and wife and stuff. I’m not gonna push. I’m sorry. I’m not pushing. Uh, I know that you are not ready to marry me. Yet.

Steffy: Thomas is my brother. You need to support him.

Finn: Baby, I want to, but we can’t just ignore xander’s accusation.

Steffy: Xander isn’t as innocent as you think. He was part of the whole baby beth lie.

Finn: So, you think he’s making his accusations against thomas as payback?

Steffy: That’s exactly what I think. Look, what happened to emma, it was awful, but that accident wasn’t because of my brother.

Finn: So, you believe your brother?

Steffy: Yes. And the police.

Finn: Police?

Steffy: Xander went to the police and the police determined that it was reckless driving. It wasn’t thomas’ fault. Look, I didn’t say anything to you because there was already so many things stacked up against thomas in the past, but thomas didn’t do what xander said. You’re my husband, finn. You need to understand that.

Luna: I think bill seems like a nice enough guy. I know, I know. I know you’re not the biggest fan of him, but he is very successful and larger than life.

Rj: Is that your mom’s type?

Luna: I don’t know what my mom’s type is actually, but if bill and my mom’s paths really did cross years ago like bill thinks, I don’t know. Maybe he is her type after all.

Bill: Li never told you.

Poppy: You saved her from this horrible sheila woman? No, I had no idea. I mean, that’s amazing. My family and I owe you a lot.

Bill: Oh, no, no, no. You don’t owe me at all. The fact is, I owe you an apology. Look, I– I meant what I said. The impact you had on me all those years ago… and– and look at you. That same glowing, effervescent, free-spirited beauty. If I picked up the phone back then, who knows how different our lives could’ve been.

Thomas: I’m sorry that my proposal caught you off guard.

Hope: I hate to disappoint you.

Thomas: You didn’t disappoint me. I get it. You just– you couldn’t accept. You’re not ready to commit to me or to anyone. That’s okay. But when you are, and in the meantime, you’ll know, you’ll always know, that you are the only woman for me.

Steffy: You’re worried about my brother? Well, so am I. But not about what xander said. I’m worried that hope is using him. And if she ends it with thomas, like this could be really devastating for him.

Finn: Yeah, I agree. It could be a breaking point, but as concerned as I am for thomas, I mean, I’m even more concerned for hope. I– I’m sorry, honey, but I still think that thomas has issues. Hope needs to be protected.

Steffy: So, you’re taking hope’s side?

Finn: I’m not taking anyone’s side. Yes, thomas is family. He’s your brother. But, that doesn’t negate or forgive him for what he did to hope. Keeping baby beth from her, perpetuating the lie that she died during child birth. These are cruel things.

Steffy: So many people suffered. Hope suffered. I suffered. Yes, I adopted a child, not knowing it was hope’s baby.

Finn: Yes, exactly. He put you through hell because he didn’t come forward and tell you what he knew. And now, these accusations from xander–

Steffy: That’s exactly what they are. They are accusations. That’s all they are. He’s just trying to get back at thomas because he got axed from forrester, from our family, from thomas.

Finn: He’s convinced that thomas is responsible for emma barber’s death.

Steffy: That is not true. It was a tragic accident. I– I– I can’t believe we’re talking about this again.

Finn: No one in your family mentions it.

Steffy: It doesn’t mean we’re not haunted by it. Look, what happened to emma, it was terrible, but it was an accident. I will tell you it again, thomas is not to blame. It wasn’t his fault. So, drop it, okay? Please, baby, just drop it. I can’T. Woma

Rj: It must’ve been hard growing up without a father. I mean, you said that’s all you’ve ever known, right?

Luna: Yeah, it’s always just my mom and me. I mean, it’s not like my dad was in my life and he walked out on us, never to return.

Rj: Can’t miss what you’ve never known.

Luna: Yeah. Something like that. Though, I do have to confess, when I was younger, I did think about him a lot. Like, who he was.

Rj: Has poppy ever talked about him? Mentioned a name? Nothing?

Luna: Nope. All she’s ever said was that I was made from love.

Bill: So, I was doing a little poking around the forrester creations website.

Poppy: Hm?

Bill: Very impressed with luna.

Poppy: Thank you. I’m really proud of her.

Bill: Well, you should be. She’s making the most of her internship and that speaks well of her.

Poppy: Luna adores fashion. You know, it’s been her dream ever since she was little. To be a part of that world. She worked really hard to get there.

Bill: Well, they’re lucky to have her.

Poppy: Well, I’m just thrilled that she’s happy. Especially since she didn’t have the easiest childhood.

Bill: How’s that?

Poppy: Well, her father wasn’t in her life.

Bill: Oh. I– I’m sorry to hear that. Guy’s gotta be a total jerk.

Poppy: No, he isn’T. He never knew I was pregnant.

Bill: So, luna has no idea who her father is?

Poppy: Mm-mm. Nope.

Bill: But you do?

Poppy: All right. You’re getting kind of personal. We haven’t seen each other in 20 years.

Bill: Ah, I’m sorry. I don’t mean to pry. It’s just that, luna is really exceptional. Any man would be proud to call her his daughter.

Thomas: Hope for the future put on hold didn’t slow me down. What do you think?

Steffy: I think it’s nice.

Thomas: It’s nice. That’s all you have to say? Really?

Steffy: Actually, I have a lot more to say.

Thomas: Oh, no. This isn’t about hope and me, is it?

Steffy: No. It’s about xander. Xander avant.

Hope: Hi. I got your text. You wanted to see me?

Finn: Yeah. Thanks for coming.

Hope: So, I’m going to guess that this is about thomas.

Finn: Yeah. I’m worried more than ever about your involvement with him.

Luna: Imagine, bill spencer, a man from my mom’s past, could possibly be her future. I mean, wouldn’t that be surprising?

Rj: Anything is possible, I suppose.

Luna: Look, I’m not trying to play matchmaker, but if something really came of this and they really hit it off and somehow got involved?

Rj: Luna, it’s their first date and you’re hearing wedding bells. Come on.

Luna: No, no. Stop. Stop. I guess it’s just the romantic in me, but.

Rj: Ah.

Luna: I love happy endings and maybe, bill spencer could be the one to give my mom one, after all this time.

Bill: You are a very beautiful woman.

Poppy: Thank you.

Bill: As beautiful now as you were then. I just remember watching you dancing to the music and you were just so into it. I mean, the look on your face, the way your– your body moved, just so free and uninhibited. It was like nothing else mattered but that moment in time.

Poppy: My life was so different back then. I was so carefree, before I became a mother.

Bill: I still can’t believe you have a daughter luna’s age. I swear, I never forgot about you. In case you’re wondering, I would really like to see you again, poppy.

Thomas: Wow, talk about a small world in a very large city. Wasn’t xander in london?

Steffy: He was in london. Now, he’s back in L.A. He showed up at finn’s office and he freaked out when he found out that I was his wife.

Thomas: Oh, wow. I mean, I guess there’s no surprise there. His tenure at forrester didn’t exactly end well. Dad let him go.

Steffy: Yeah, part of that was because of the whole baby beth lie.

Thomas: Okay, so why are you bringing this up? So, finn saw xander as a patient. It’s no big deal.

Steffy: It is a big deal, thomas. He and emma were close and he hasn’t forgotten about what happened on mulholland. You and I know what happened to emma, it was an accident, but xander doesn’t think that. He told finn that he thinks you’re responsible for emma’s death.

Hope: While I appreciate the concern, finn, it is misplaced. There is nothing to worry about with thomas, as I have told steffy, as I have told everyone else over and over and–

Finn: I realize that and while steffy’s worried about her brother, I’m worried about you.

Hope: Okay, well, that’s– that’s sweet, but it’s unnecessary. I mean, I know better than anyone how much thomas has changed, so.

Finn: Are you sure about that, hope? Because I learned something pretty shocking today.

Hope: About thomas?

Finn: I, um, I saw a new patient and when he saw our wedding photo, he– he freaked out and he couldn’t believe that I was married to steffy forrester.

Hope: Well, I am sure that that was just a mistake or that he’s a fan. I mean, steffy has many fans.

Finn: No, he is not– he is not– he’s definitely not a fan. He’s a former employee of forrester. Does the name xander avant ring any bells?

Hope: You saw xander?

Finn: Yeah, and he made a pretty shocking statement. And I– I told steffy and she seemed to already know and I’m sensing that you do too. And yeah, it goes all the way back to one of the darkest chapters of your life, when your baby was stolen and you and liam thought that she was dead, and look– look, I’m really sorry to be– I’m bringing all this up, but I really wish I didn’t have to. I wish I could just forget what xander told me, but given the things thomas has done in the past… and look, I mean, steffy, she– she believes in thomas. He’s her brother, after all, but when xander accuses thomas of murder, now do you understand why I’m so concerned about you?

THIS STILL NEEDS SOME EDITING!

[dramatic music]

Good morning, beautiful.

Good morning.

[sighs] I missed this.

Yeah, me too.

You know, it’s–it’s crazy. There’s a part of me that feels like I never left here.

Maybe our hearts have been here the whole time.

Yeah, maybe.

I’ll have to thank your mom for banning you from coming home last night.

Oh, my God, that was a surprise.

I was more than happy to offer you refuge in my home… and in my bed.

You know, last night, that was a first for me.

It was not.

Not that part.

[giggles] The other thing.

Oh, right.

Mm-hmm.

Yes, the–the other thing.

Hmm.

Mmm.

Oh.

[chuckles] What smells so–so good?

[both chuckle] Oh, turkey sausage, fried eggs and tomatoes, Texas toast. All my favorites. You remembered.

Just made what was in the refrigerator.

Oh. Well, it all looks delicious.

Well. Uh, Paulina… I’m sorry.

Oh, no, you don’t need to be sorry. It isn’t your fault that you don’t– you don’t remember anything.

No, I mean I’m sorry about last night.

Thank you so much for–for coming. I’m–I’m really sorry to have called you on a holiday. I’m just so terrified for Tate.

Don’t apologize. I’m available – for family. And I know Alex is very concerned about both of you.

Yeah, I really appreciate that. I didn’t know if things were OK between us. There was a lot of tension at the Christmas dinner, and I know Alex can be a bit of a–

A bit of a thoughtful guy who brings lattes to the woman who kicked him out of the hospital last night.

[upbeat music] I’m sorry I didn’t bring you one, Da– Justin.

No, I’m fine. I’ve already had my morning coffee.

Good. So what are you doing here anyway?

I called him the minute I heard about Tate.

[phone beeps]

Oh, Tate’s arraignment starts at : a.m.

Oh, great, great. Thank you for taking care of that. But you don’t have to stay. You can go now.

I beg your pardon?

Well, I’m sorry to do this, and I say it with all love and respect. But I’ve hired somebody else to represent Tate.

Your mom and I told you to stay as far away from here as possible, Tate.

I was going to, Dad, but I couldn’t let you take the fall for something that you didn’t do.

And I’m not gonna let you take the fall for something that you didn’t do, either, all right? The cops saw you with those pills, Tate.

How many times do I have to tell you? They weren’t mine.

I know that. I know that. But it looks bad. Holly got those pills from somewhere, and the cops saw you and her at the scene. Son, I know you think you can handle this, but you can’t.

[dramatic music] Son, Holly’s stepfather is the DA. He wants blood. Better mine than yours, OK?

Yeah, but I’ll be tried in juvenile court. You won’t. This is my battle, Dad. Let me fight it.

[door clicks open]

Oh, God.

It’s sounding a little tense in here, gentlemen.

Oh. Dad, things are fine.

Got your suit, kid.

Thanks, Grandpa.

Yeah.

What is this, for the arraignment?

I asked him to bring it.

Wow, you just have this all figured out, don’t you? You are so stubborn. You know that?

Boy, beginning to sound like someone else I know.

[sighs]

I need to be kept up on every detail regarding Tate’s arraignment. Is that clear, Commissioner?

Oh, I am well aware of your concerns about this case, EJ.

I mean it, Rafe. This involves the safety of every citizen in Salem.

Yeah, certainly not a personal vendetta.

What was that?

What? I just said I’ll keep you posted. How’s Holly doing?

She had another seizure a little while ago.

Oh, man, I’m sorry to hear that.

She’s stable now. She was–she was with Nicole at the time, and Nicole hasn’t left her side.

Listen to me, EJ. I promise you that I will give you any updates that I get, OK? Go be with your wife. She needs you.

I would, but Nicole has company right now. She’s with Eric.

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

You hired another lawyer?

Family is not what you need right now, Theresa. What you need is a high-powered criminal attorney who is ruthless. And I’m sorry, that is just not your style.

No, no, ruthless is not my style. Facts are my style. Truth is my style. Fighting for what’s right is my style.

Yeah, and that’s all well and good. Nonetheless, I made some phone calls, and needless to say, I have hired somebody, and I have my resources to get Tate the very best. That’s what’s happening.

No, Alex, that is definitely not what is happening.

[sighs]

[tense music]

We can only move forward now, Brady. Tate is going to be arraigned, and we need to focus. We need to remain optimistic for the best possible outcome under the circumstances here, got it?

Yeah.

It–it looks great, Grandpa. Thank Grandma for me.

Well, you know, she steamed that herself. She wanted you to look your best.

And tell her I’m–tell her I’m sorry I snuck out.

No, you can tell her yourself when you see her.

How’s–how’s Holly doing?

She’s doing about the same.

I– last night when she showed me those drugs, I should have– I should have found you and told you. I just– I’m sorry, Dad.

Well, now that’s a lesson learned, isn’t it, kiddo?

I should have called right away too. When I found her lying out back, I just– I was so afraid of her getting in trouble. I didn’t– I wasn’t– I should have been more afraid that she could die.

You know, speaking of last night, I am a little hungry.

Wait, still?

Yeah. Would you like me to make you some breakfast?

Ooh. How about some biscuits with Southern fried eggs and gravy?

Mm. I was actually thinking a slightly… less ambitious alternative.

Such as?

I don’t know, maybe a… doughnut and some coffee.

What? Come on.

OK, OK, I’m kidding. I’ll make you whatever you like. But first…

[dramatic music] I wouldn’t mind a little dessert for breakfast.

[phone beeps] No, no, don’t do it. Don’t do it.

Mm-hmm, what if it’s Mama?

Hey, aah!

What if it’s Mama?

OK, fine.

[sighs]

It’s your dad. He says he’s been trying to reach you.

I– I left my phone on silent all night. Oh, jeez. Everyone’s been trying to… get ahold of me. Oh, no.

What? What–what happened?

Holly OD’d. I–I got to get to the hospital.

Oh, my God. Here, go. Go.

Paulina…

[dramatic music] I want you to understand. I felt it would be wrong for us to be intimate when I just don’t remember what we had.

[sighs] I understand.

Well, so you’re not upset?

I promise I won’t hold it against you.

[sighs]

[chuckles]

Now, just to be clear…

[chuckles]

I do love the woman I’m getting to know.

Oh.

[both chuckle]

[both smooch]

Oh, my gosh, I am so sorry. Should I leave you guys alone?

[sighs] Look, Alex, I really appreciate you wanting the best for us, but we have that with Justin. And he knows Tate.

And the attorney that I hired will get to know Tate too. More importantly, he knows how to rip apart the prosecution’s case.

So does Justin. What–what–what is this? Does this have to do with the silliness that happened at dinner the other night?

No, Theresa, no, not at all. It’s ouzo under the bridge.

What is the problem, then? Because Brady and I trust Justin. And so does Tate, and he does not trust easily. You know what? I–I don’t–I don’t know what–what this is. I–I don’t–I don’t care, because he is– he’s gonna be dealing with this case, period.

[sighs]

Thank you, Theresa. I appreciate the vote of confidence. But if it would satisfy Alex, I am open to having a consulting lawyer on call.

Thank you.

Yeah, well, that might not be such a bad idea.

OK, see, that’s not good news. Now the cops are telling us that we even have to lawyer up more.

Well, it’s no secret that EJ’s out for blood. He’s got an ax to grind with Tate. But punishing that kid, especially if he’s innocent, that is not gonna help anyone, least of all Holly or Nicole.

All right, kiddo, here’s the road map. First, you’re gonna stop blaming yourself. Number one, it’s not gonna do any good. Number two, it’s not gonna change a damn thing. You got it? All right. Now, you pull yourself together and get in your suit. Your dad and I will be right outside, OK? OK.

[sighs] I really wish that you had–

We’re done here. We’re–we’re done here. Let’s just give him some space here. Hey, I know you’re trying to help him. But Tate has to man up and do this himself right now. He needs to know that we trust the judicial system is gonna work for him.

Dad, Dad, Dad, the judicial system, really? With EJ as DA? You are fooling yourself. There’s no way that my poor kid is gonna get justice.

[elevator bell dings]

Dad. Hey, how’s Holly? Why are you out here? Shouldn’t you be in there with her?

It’s–it’s–it’s not a good time, son.

Is she–

She’s alive. She’s just–she’s in a coma.

OK, well, can I go see her?

As I said, it’s not a good time.

Why not?

Nicole is in there, and she’s with Eric.

Chanel, silly child, get on over here.

[chuckles]

I am so sorry I interrupted.

You didn’t interrupt anything.

[chuckles] We were just having a lovely breakfast that Abe made for me.

Mm.

Well, I’m going to go get dressed, so if you ladies will excuse me.

Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.

[both chuckle]

Happy New Year.

Yeah.

[sighs]

So…it looks like last night went well.

Mm. Mostly, yes. Abe and I had a long talk, and I told him about… everything. I mean, about my medical condition.

Oh. Oh, really? Mama, I am so glad you told him about it. How did he respond?

Oh, how do you think? He’s Abe Carver. He was supportive and caring, said he’d be there for me. And I said I didn’t want him to, and he said, too bad.

Yeah, that sounds like Abe.

And–and then… he–he told me he loves me.

Oh, Mama, that is so wonderful. OK, and then now he’s still here in his pajamas.

I dug up those PJs from the back of a drawer. We slept in separate beds.

Oh. OK, I might regret asking this, but why?

Oh, you know. Well, he lost his memory. I’m here. He’s there, blah, blah, blah. So it wasn’t the right time. But, you know, we talked this morning, and we’re in a better place now.

Good. I’m glad.

[sighs] So… how was your New Year’s Eve? Where’d you go after the party?

[dramatic music]

Oh, I… just went back to Johnny’s place.

[door clicks open] Thanks for lending me your shirt.

Suddenly that shirt is my all-time favorite.

[chuckles]

[sighs] So… now what? What should we do?

I don’t know, anything… everything.

[sighs] I can’t believe it’s been two years since we were together.

Two long years.

You know, it’s– it’s funny. We were married, so… why am I so nervous?

Hey, hey. You never have to be nervous around me. OK? You know what? I am…a little hungry.

Now?

Yeah, so it’s a good thing that while you were in the bathroom, I went downstairs… and brought up a little snack.

[laughs] You’re gonna eat that out the can?

No, not eat it out of the can. I am going to eat it… off of you.

Yeah, well, let’s just say our New Year’s was pretty…sweet.

Theresa, you let Tate get out of the house so he could come down here and confess? What were you thinking, huh?

I did not let him get out. He snuck out. Marlena and I thought that he was in his bed sleeping.

Well, that’s great. You know, if he would have just gone back to boarding school like I wanted him to, none of this would be happening to the poor kid.

Oh, really? Well, you’re the one who let him decide on what he wanted to do, Mr. Big Stuff. And he decides to stay, and you blame me?

OK, OK, listen. We–Tate needs all of us on the same side here.

I know.

[sighs]

Like that’s gonna happen. But for the record, I’m on her side.

Yeah, shocker.

Let’s just focus on–on–on Tate here. What’s the outlook?

Well, actually, I’m optimistic after reading the police report. I mean, there’s very little concrete evidence against him. So this arraignment this morning will be quick. Tate will plead not guilty to the charges. Then the judge will set bail and a trial date. And then, since Tate is a minor, he’ll be released into a parent’s supervision. And I assume that will be you, Brady.

Yes.

All right. So like I said, this hearing is gonna be quick. I suggest that I go into court alone with Tate and the rest of you remain here.

Whoa.

No, I don’t agree with that.

Justin, that’s not a good–

Please! Based on what I just witnessed here, OK, it’ll be for the best, because this judge will not tolerate outbursts of any kind.

So we’re gonna let Justin do his job here, right, everyone?

Yeah.

All right.

I’m ready.

So Nicole is in Holly’s room with Eric, and you’re just…out here?

She’s beside herself with worry. I wasn’t gonna storm in there and pull her out of Eric’s arms.

OK. Well, got to say, that’s a little out of character for you, Dad.

Eric has been in Holly’s life for a long time. He is, of course, a great comfort to her right now. No, what Nicole needs from me in this moment is to take care of business.

Take care of business? What does that mean?

It means she is in there torturing herself for not having seen the signs with Holly earlier, when in reality, it is not her fault in the least. No, this is all on the shoulders of that loser Tate Black.

Whoa. This–this is all Tate’s fault?

Holly never even used drugs until Tate came along.

You sure about that?

Oh, come, now. You’ve met his parents. I guarantee the apple hasn’t fallen far from those rotten trees. No, no, no, that–that– that druggie loser almost killed Holly. I will never let him anywhere near her again.

[dramatic music]

[sighs] This waiting is driving me crazy. I thought this was supposed to be quick, huh?

Yeah, I know. Let’s–let’s go out and get some fresh air. Theresa, let us know when they come back.

[sighs]

[sighs] Theresa, I know I got under your skin last night, and I’m trying very hard not to be that guy, but somebody’s got to say it. Are you sure Tate’s telling the truth?

Of course he is. Look, I know I sound like one of those naive parents. My son would never do that. I know. But he and I have talked many, many, many times before about drugs and alcohol and addiction, both his father and I. We both talked to him about it, and he knows. He would never, ever go down that road.

OK, OK, but did you always do what your parents warned you not to do? I know I didn’t. Kids, they don’t listen. They make their own mistakes, and they learn the hard way.

Alex… I hear what you’re saying. But I can’t go there right now. I just have to believe what my son is telling me.

OK. I’m sorry for being cynical. He’s your son. You know him better than anybody, and if you choose to believe him, so do I. Come over here.

[sighs]

Whoa, chilly out here.

Yeah, it was chilly in there. She should have locked Tate in his room.

Oh, stop it, will you? You both could have handled things a little bit better.

Me? How could I have handled things any better?

Oh. With trying to take the rap? That always works out well, doesn’t it?

I hope I didn’t screw up his case and make him look like he–he was trying to hide something.

Son, everyone knows that you were trying to protect your boy here. That’s what good parents do.

Dad, I– look, I got to say this out loud, or I’m gonna blow up. It’s not possible, is it? After all Theresa and I did to make sure that that kid did not follow in our footsteps, he did not do drugs with Holly, did he? It’s not possible.

You know sometimes kids make mistakes. Now, if–if Tate did do drugs, you, Theresa, and this army that you have as a family will rally around him to make sure that he gets the help he needs. But I’m telling you something, son. My gut says that young man is telling the truth.

I pray you’re right.

How can you be so sure it was Tate that gave Holly the drugs?

Because he’s a little punk. He’s nothing but trouble.

[sighs] OK, look, there’s something I got to tell you, Dad. On Christmas Eve, Holly got drunk while you and Nicole were at Green Mountain.

How do you know? You saw her?

She called me, completely plastered.

How come I didn’t know about this?

Because kids don’t tell their parents everything.

[sighs]

Anyway, I–I rushed over. I tucked her in, made sure she was OK.

And you saw her drunk?

Yes.

[sighs] Damn. Nicole didn’t think it was a good idea to leave Holly alone for her birthday, and it obviously wasn’t.

It’s just, Holly, she was just trying to be supportive, you know, of you and Nicole. She didn’t want to make a big deal out of it. She didn’t want to be selfish.

[sighs]

After that night, I just–man, I– I could have kept a closer eye on her. You know, I was at that party. I could have at least made sure she was OK.

Don’t–don’t be ridiculous. This is nobody’s fault but Tate’s.

Mm, nothing makes me happier than seeing that smile on your face.

You had a big smile on your face when I walked in on you two this morning. I’m really sorry I interrupted.

Oh, well, don’t be. Things weren’t going any further than that kiss that you walked in on. But you say that you had a sweet night with Johnny? What did you two do?

Oh, we just shared a little… late-night dessert.

[vocalizing]

[sultry music]

* Got to keep * * The dream alive *

[vocalizing] * Keeping the dream alive * * I’m keeping the dream alive * * Keep the dream alive * * Alive *

[vocalizing]

Yeah, and Johnny said that he’d love to have late-night dessert more often.

Mm.

[chuckles] Well, you tell him to be careful. It’s not always such a good idea to eat something rich so late at night.

* Keeping the dream alive *

What? What did I say?

* The dream alive *

Dad, if Holly was drinking and you didn’t know about it, isn’t it possible that she could have been doing other things too?

Holly’s not like that. She’s a good kid.

Good kids do drugs. It happens. OK, look, Tate was there for Holly. I’m the one who told her to lean on Tate. I’m just saying, if you’re gonna be mad at Tate, then you should be mad at me too.

[dramatic music]

[phone ringing]

I have to answer this.

Is there any news?

No, not yet.

Theresa… I’m–I’m sorry for jumping down your throat earlier. It was not your fault that Tate snuck out.

Thank you. Justin’s right. Emotions are really running high right now. Tate, how did it go?

Hey.

I made bail.

He made bail!

He can go home.

Oh, God.

Oh, thank God. Oh, thank God.

Oh, my God, thank God.

See, kid? It’s all right. It’s all right. It’s all right. It’s all right.

Thank you.

Mmm. Abe, that was so good.

Oh, well, thank you.

Mm-hmm. Yup, I’m gonna have to fix that for Johnny but with the biscuits and gravy, you know, how Mama taught you how to make last year. Remember?

But, oh, hey, who needs those added carbs, carbs, carbs?

I’ll have to learn how to make that again.

I’m really sorry, Abe. I am such a dope. I wasn’t thinking.

No, no, I’m just thinking about Holly. I was just wondering how she was doing.

I know. Such a tragedy.

Yeah, Johnny said he’d call. He was supposed to tell me how she’s doing.

Well, I’m sure he’ll call as soon as he can.

No, no, I’m just glad Holly moved on to Tate instead of mooning over Johnny. Oh, at least Tate’s her own age.

Yeah, but did Tate give her the drugs? Because if he did, then he could be in some big trouble.

Oh, I tell you, my heart goes out to Holly. I mean, this drug epidemic is just– just out of control. I mean, people–people are overdosing every day and dying.

I wish I knew how to stop it.

You’re doing the best you can, Mama.

[sighs] You know, when I got the report of another OD this morning, I had no idea it was someone we knew. Oh, this is so close to home.

You know, I better get over to the hospital and– Nicole might need my help.

Oh, you’re a good man, Abe Carver. I’m going to go and call and find out what exactly happened to that girl. Rafe should be able to tell me more by now.

[phone rings]

Hey, Chanel, it’s– it’s me.

Hey. Hey, baby. How’s Holly?

Not good. She’s in a coma. She’s hooked up to all these tubes. She almost died.

Oh–oh, my God. What–what happened?

She OD’d outside the Bistro on the back loading dock right after we left. They had to give her naloxone…twice.

Oh, God. I wish that we would have gone with Tate when he was looking for her.

Yeah, me too.

So–so she was using? Were–were the drugs hers or Tate’s?

I don’t know. You know, nobody knows. My dad sure seems to think Tate is responsible. I just–I left. I told him I’d come back later.

Oh, OK. Well, I–I’m here with Mama and–and Abe, and she shared with me what happened last night.

Interesting. We never got breakfast. Do you want to meet at the pub now?

Yeah, yeah, sure. I’ve already eaten, but I’ll meet you there. And I want to hear more about Holly and Tate. So–so where is Tate now?

[sighs] Not sure. All I know is that my dad is bound and determined to hold Tate responsible for what happened to Holly. He’s furious, enraged, actually. I just–I don’t know, I hope he doesn’t do anything crazy.

[dramatic music]

I know. I know you don’t.

Wow. Well, looks like a New Year’s party in here.

Oh, better than that.

Well, it is, thanks to Justin.

Yeah, congrats again, Dad.

Thanks, Alex.

Yeah, Justin, thank you so much.

Really, it was just the arraignment.

I know, but with EJ in charge, it could have gone wrong. Who knows what could have happened in there?

This is great news, and I’m gonna put on a big lunch for everybody here, especially you, kiddo.

[clicks tongue]

All right. So hey, can we–can we leave and get out of here?

Actually, no. You need to hang here. I got to pick up the release papers from the court. Be right back.

OK.

Tate, you need to get some rest, OK?

[phone ringing]

Yeah, yeah, but right now, I really just want Holly to be OK.

I hear you. Excuse me.

Well, Alex, Theresa, apparently, we’re gonna have a big old lunch over at the house. So I’d love to have you guys come.

Let’s do it. Thanks, man.

Sure.

I’m so relieved…for now.

Me too, yeah. I know we still have to go to trial and everything, but honestly, I just want to get out of here.

I know, I know. Hey, one step at a time. But, buddy, you, you’re coming home. You’re coming home.

[laughter]

I just got a call from the assistant district attorney.

And I just got a call from the judge. He’s reversed his decision, and your bail’s been revoked. Sorry, Tate, you’re not going anywhere. I’ve got to take you back into custody.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[ Door closes ] Curtis. Oh, my goodness.

[ Gasps ] What a wonderful surprise. Honey! What are you doing here? Ringing in the new year with the woman I love. Adam, this is joss’ room. Oh. That’s why the door was locked. We just got back from a new year’s eve party. Looks like you found one, too. Oh, no, no, no. I just — I just had A… I just had one kama– uh, vodka thing. I’m — I’m not sure. Maybe — maybe two. Okay. You better sit down before you fall down. No, just…

[ Groans ]

[ Door closes ] What’s going on, adam? You’re not a drinker. Adam. It’s over, joss. It’s all…over. My parents know the truth about me. Let me get this straight. You think that we — you and I — are gonna work together? Look at it as giving us closure. I think you’ll find it very… satisfying. I look at it as not happening. That ship sailed when you threatened my daughter. We both made mistakes, ava. Yes, I threatened to take avery in the heat of the moment, but as angry and as upset as I was, it was still wrong. Well, thank you for saying that. But you. You thought you killed me. And after a few minutes of calm reflection, you decided to ditch my body and walk away. I was not calm! At all! I was completely panicked! I-I couldn’t even think when I thought that I killed you. I just wanted to stop you from taking my daughter. I didn’t want you dead! Alright, well, that’s something, I guess. Mm? Come on. Our marriage wasn’t all bad, was it? We had our moments.

[ Chuckles ] Yeah, we did. We — uh, esme. We were talking about esme, right? And esme — she has no memory, you know? And, um, she’s completely devoted to her son.

My son. Do you think I’d forget that? You know I’m — I’m sorry about that. According to trina, so is esme. Esme will never change. Eventually, she will return to her selfish, spiteful ways. It’s who she is. But if we work together, we can get rid of her before she does any more damage. Just level with me, nikolas. Are you planning to kill esme? Get out of here. You have no place here. There’s a place for everyone in god’s plan. I’m never gonna buy your religious “saved” act. Stop pretending. You are so certain in your judgment, sonny. Have you never been wrong about someone? Not about you, cyrus! Tonight is not the night to be pushing me! Ah. She told you. A-a-at last. What are you talking about? I’m sure nina only did what she felt was right when she reported carly and drew to the sec. Let me start by saying… that I am sorrier than you could ever know. How did you find out? What are you talking about? Okay, carly, t-t-they’re waiting to hear back. I don’t know what — oh. Can you just handle it, please? Whatever you decide, I’m okay with. Are you sure? Yes, I’m sure. Okay. Okay. Alright. Um, nina, l-let me get the door. No. Please, please, please. Can you just listen? Can you just listen? I have something that I need to tell you. I don’t want to keep them waiting. It’s fine. I will handle nina. Are you sure? I’m sure. Yeah.

[ Sighs ] Okay. What’s so important, nina? Okay. As you know, I was very angry when willow was dying and I found out that you kept the truth about her being my daughter from me when she needed me the most. Oh, my god, is this why you’re here? Because I cannot do this again. I can’t do this tonight. I can’T. And I was beyond angry, okay? And so I wasn’t considering the conse– what I’m trying to say is that I’m done making excuses. I’m not gonna make excuses to myself. I’m not gonna do it to you. I am not your friend. And I am not your therapist. So, if you have something to say, please say it. I’m the one who tipped off the sec about your insider trading. Well, ace is still asleep, though, right? Great. I will be home right away. Laura, I am so sorry if I worried you. It sounds like a simple miscommunication to me. It happens. Here you go. That should warm you up. Oh, uh… I think you dropped this. Thank you. Um…probably won’t do me much good. I already lost the other one. Do you know where? I do. Wyndemere, when you broke in on christmas eve. I didn’t want to tell you o-or my dad what nina had done to my mom and drew, so I just — I thought it was — I thought it would be best to mitigate the damage. You went behind my back and you interfered with my relationship with my mother? Willow, I was just trying to protect our family. You were manipulating me! No, that’s not what I was trying to do — don’t! Just stop!

[ Gasps ] I mean, I-I don’t know where my relationship with nina was going to go, but instead of letting me make up my own mind, you blackmailed her?! I don’t — I don’t understand. If you were so worried about her influence on our kids, why wouldn’t you tell me the truth?! I’m sorry. You’re the one who called the sec? You’re the reason drew went to pentonville? You took him from his daughter. Well, you kept mine from me. You — drew was almost beaten to death, and you’re still the victim?! Listen. Listen. What I’m trying to say is the emotions were running high back then, okay? There was a lot of hostility. There was a lot of pressure. And I felt like your family’s punching bag, okay? And I reached my breaking point. I snapped and I lashed out. Children lash out! You were trying to get back at me. A-and drew was just collateral damage? I mean, that man has been nothing but decent to you, and you almost got him killed. Well, I didn’t know the judge was going to give him such a harsh sentence. Everyone was shocked by it. That shouldn’t have happened. He shouldn’t have been sitting in the courtroom to begin with, nina! Well, you did commit — he — okay, it doesn’t matter!

[ Shouts indistinctly ] It doesn’t matter! What I’m trying to say is, I know that you will never forgive me. I’m just trying to set the record straight. Why? Sorry? Why?! You were doing just fine keeping your mouth shut. Why? I mean, you had no problem letting everyone believe that ned called the sec. Why? Well, I — I did feel terrible about that. No, not terrible enough to tell the truth. Why tonight, nina? You know, I know you’re not gonna believe me, but the guilt was eating me alive. I regretted all of it. All of it. I just came to a point. I did not — I didn’t know how to fix it.

[ Chuckling ] Oh, god. Really? You don’t feel guilt or regret for anyone but yourself. Oh. You got busted, huh? That’s why you’re here. Who knows? Who knows? Sonny. What do you know about nina? In her time of distress, she also found her way to this place for guidance. I offered her my counsel. There should be no lies between husband and wife. I’m glad my simple truth could help you both. Whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

[ Groans ]

[ Breathing heavily ] I forgive you, sonny. Fight me back! Come on! God forgives you. Ohh! Come on, cyrus! Fight back! Fight back! Come on!

[ Grunts ] Of course. Is he the reason you came over here? Sonny suggested that I should apologize to you. He is very angry. Can you blame him? You’ve been lying to his face for months. And more importantly, you snitched on his family. I never meant for any of this to happen. You never meant to get caught. You’re not here to make things right. You’re not here to set things straight. You’re here because you don’t want to lose, sonny. No, I’m here because I want to make things right. You are the most selfish person I have ever met. You do nothing but hurt everyone around you, mostly the people you claim to care about. That’s not fair. Fair? You’re gonna talk to me about fair? It’s not fair that drew almost died in prison because you had a temper tantrum. It’s not fair that you get to show up whenever you want with a fake apology, because you want sonny to forgive you. You are nothing but a selfish bitch, and I hope you rot in hell! I won’t le curtis: Eckert’s full store was closed. But this donut window was open all night.

[ Squeals, laughs ] You never have to apologize for eckert’s lemon donuts.

Ahh!

[ Chuckles ] As you can see, I am not offering you any. Uh, yeah, I’ve noticed that.

[ Laughs ] Oh, this is the best. Babe, you’re the best. Well, honey, I got to say, I’m just impressed. There’s not many people that would be so happy to work on new year’S. Well, at least we won’t have to set an alarm. We can sleep in and make up for these late-night donuts. Sleep? Mnh-mnh. I don’t know if I’ll be able to sleep. I’m so excited thinking about your upcoming surgery. I mean, if this works, you could be on the road to walking again. Yeah. Yep, yep, yep. That’s the plan. What if it doesn’t work? I don’t want to kill esme. You can see why I’d be the tiniest bit skeptical, though, right? Yes, but I’ll settle for getting her out of my sons’ lives. Is that all? Do you truly think esme is equipped to raise a child?

My child? No. Obviously, I don’T. I just don’t know what you want me to do. What I want from you…

[ Exhales sharply ] I’m sorry. I — I have trouble concentrating when I’m around you. What are you doing?

[ Chuckles ] Remembering the good times.

[ Whispering ] And there were a lot of them. There were a couple.

[ Chuckles ] And those days are over. Is that why you don’t want to help me with esme? Because if we spend too much time together, then you might not be able to resist me? You were at wyndemere on christmas eve, weren’t you? Yes. I-I’m really embarrassed. You know, speaking of warming up, I’m gonna get a little more coffee and let you two speak privately. Thank you. Esme, breaking into wyndemere was dangerous and illegal. What were you doing there? Look, elizabeth baldwin told me that that is where nikolas kept me prisoner last christmas. And I thought that I-if i was there the same time of year, that it might help spark something to help me remember. I see. Look, I’m really sorry that I broke in, but I-I was really cold and… I-I was a little crazy, you know? And I never should have damaged the property. I’ll pay for the broken glass right away. I am sorry you had such a bad night. You should have called me. You can do that. I should have. But thank you for understanding. You’ve always been really good to me. Well, we’re family. And we all have our crazy moments. I’m glad it’s not just me. No. No, it’s not. Did it work? Sorry? Did you remember anything? What did your parents find out about you that was so bad you started pounding kamikazes? They know I lied about the internship I said I was gonna do over winter break. They just kept pushing a-and pushing about why I didn’t come home for the holidays as planned. Somehow, it all just came out. My lousy grades! I was sitting next to you when you got an “a” in organic chemistry. “A” minus is what I got. And there’s no way I can get away with that “b” I got in anatomy, right? Okay. That anatomy class is killer. A “b” in that class is like top of the curve. My parents — they don’t care. They’re threatening

[Breathes deeply] To pull me out of pcu and send me to a local college so I can live at home. They don’t want to waste their money paying for pcu if I’m not performing up to their standards. That’s crazy. That’s why I went to that frat party. I just wanted to forget for a while, you know? My parents were really mad, actually. Why am I such a scrub? I had every intention in exposing nina. I did. I went — I went to my dad first. I was gonna tell him, but… he was just — he was so happy. He was so in love. And I couldn’t do it. And I knew if I couldn’t tell him, I couldn’t tell you.

[ Sighs ] And then I realized, why should either one of you hurt any more because of nina? So I made a deal with her. I-I told her that I’ll keep quiet if she lets me decide when and if she can see you and the kids. You had no right. I-I know that, and, willow, I am — I am sorry. I truly am. But you’ve already been through enough. I’m not gonna apologize for trying to protect you. It is not that. Michael, you didn’t trust that I could protect myself.

[ Scoffs ] I thought we were partners. Oh, willow, we are partners. Neither of us acted like it. I didn’t tell you I had cancer. And you didn’t tell me what nina did. We’re not honest with each other. What kind of marriage is that? What I’m

trying to do,carly, is make things right. Oh, my god. Too little, too late! Drew went to prison because of you. So, you know what? You deserve every bit of payback that’s coming at you. You know, you should be thanking me. All the horrible things that you’ve done to me. I’ve made myself the bad guy for you. You’re welcome. You have no one to blame but yourself. And you coming over here trying to apologize — are you kidding me? There’s no way you’re coming back from this, nina. No way. I know that sonny values loyalty more than anything. Yeah. He sure does. I’m gonna be really clear here. I will never forgive you. Yeah, I know you don’t care. But willow? Your daughter is gonna see that you haven’t changed and that you’re still just as toxic as ever, and you’re never gonna see amelia and wiley.

Ever. I never meant for things to go this far. You never meant to get caught. I mean, come on! Let’s be honest! But you did mean to make me and drew suffer. Suffer how?

[ Keys clatter ]

[ Exhales heavily ] Drew, I’m the one — drew, nina is the one who called the sec. Is that right? I am so sorry about what happened to you. I had no intention for you to go all the way to — yes or no, nina? Are you the one who called the sec? Yes. Well, what am i supposed to do now? I don’t understand. Because I can’t do all the things that I would do if you were a man, right? I can’t — I can’t grab you, and I can’t hit you. But you are vile, nina. And you are the worst kind of hypocrite. Scout told me that she saw you at the halloween party. You were so nice to her. And the whole time, you knew that you put her father away in prison. Well, I had no idea that the judge was gonna be so harsh with your sentencing… and donna and wiley were there, and they have no idea, do they, that you tried to put carly away? But they will. No! Well, of course they will. Why — why shouldn’t they find out that they’re living a lie, that they think that you’re some kind of good and kind person when you’re not? I mean, you don’t even love your kids. Of course I do! No, you love the idea of being a mother and a grandmother. But you could never put your kids’ needs ahead of your own. And that’s what you need to do. Do not tell me how I feel about my daughter or my grandchildren. You guys are standing here like you’re so saintly. You did commit a crime, by the way! Let me remind you that. And you’re the one who set all this in motion anyway. You kept the truth from me about both my daughters, first nelle, then willow. You kept me away from willow for months! I mean… stop! Stop! I can’t handle this tonight. My mom died. Bobbie’s dead? Oh, my god. I’m so sorry. But you just go ahead and you barged in anyway — I didn’t know, drew. You didn’t care. You didn’t care. And you’re not here for me, and you’re not here for drew. You’re here for yourself. And you’ve said everything you needed to say, so get out of my house. Carly, I didn’t know, and I’m so — get the hell out of my house! Get out!

[ Crying ] How do I… how do I live in a world where nina gets to exist, but my mom can’t? Okay. Okay.

Party. Come again? Yeah, an why is she gone? Okay. Don’t flatter yourself. You are quite resistible. Then why are you running away? I’m not running anywhere. Oh, then you’ll help me get to esme? Well, I admit that I would be happier with her out of the picture. That’s great. Now all you have to do is throw a party. Come again? Yeah, and make sure esme’s among the attendees. I’ll get you a full guest list. Why would esme come to a party I throw?

[ Chuckles ] Ava. You have one of the most fertile imaginations I’ve ever known. It’s just one of your many alluring traits. Well, that’s true. But a party? I’m sure you’ll think of a reason to throw one. Who doesn’t love a party? Do you really expect me to believe that you’re not gonna hurt esme? Hand to god. And if you can’t take me at my word, who can you trust? I walked around wyndemere, and… nothing. I don’t remember a single memory. Were you still at wyndemere when I got there? Yeah, I was. I-I panicked and ran out before you saw me. Uh-huh. But you left your glove. It must have fallen out of my pocket or something. I-I’m really sorry. I-it’s kind of hard to explain, but I-I couldn’t risk getting arrested. I didn’t want to miss ace’s first christmas. Yeah. I mean, I understand. I do. I really do. But you broke the law, esme. You’re going to have to turn yourself in. Joss, hi. I’m sorry to disrupt your night, but your mom needs to talk to you. Can you come home? Yeah, of course. Is my mom okay? Yeah. She just, um… she’ll explain everything when you get here, okay? So, drive safe, a-and, um — and we’ll see you soon. Okay. Bye. Uh, that was drew. I have to go. My mom needs to talk to me.

[ Groaning ] I sh– I should go. Stay here. Don’t move.

[ Groans ] Want me to go with you? I can take adam back to his room first. I’m worried about leaving him alone like this in his condition. Will you? I promise. I will keep an eye on him. Thank you. Just text me when you can. I will. Look, we — we both made mistakes, but we — we love each other. We can get through this. Nina’s lies are one thing. But you’re my husband. Yours hurt so much worse. Look, I’m gonna need some time to sift through all of this. Okay. Yeah. Let’s — let’s — let’s go home. Look, I-I’ll do anything, anything I can to make this ri– I want you to sleep somewhere else tonight.

[ Cellphone rings ] Who’s calling at this time of night? Well, answer it. It might be about the kids. It’s drew. Take it. There’s nothing left to say. Not tonight. Willow…

[ Ringing continues ]

[ Sighs ] Hey, drew. What’s going on? The surgery is experimental. There’s no guarantees. If it doesn’t work, are you gonna be upset? Honey, I’m gonna be upset because I know how much you value your independence. But I love you. Honey, I’m gonna love you no matter what. Whether you can walk or not.

[ Sighs ] That’s it. That’s the truth. I do know that. So, how are you feeling about the procedure? I’m trying to not be too hopeful. Honey… I just want to be able to sweep my brilliant, kind, and absolutely beautiful wife off of her feet. You know, you’re doing that now. And carry her to our bedroom, where we make love. You, my love… you sweep me off my feet every single day with that smile.

[ Chuckles ] Mm-hmm. Yep. That’s the one. How is he? The nurse said that he was touch and go in the ambulance. Ah! I should call — no, I’ll make the call. Just go. Okay. Thank you.

[ Sighs ] I-I can’t go to jail. What about ace? I — okay, look. I think that you will be granted bail. You probably won’t even have to stay overnight. I don’t get it. I thought you understood. I — I do, I do. But actions have consequences. But if you turn yourself in and you admit to what you’ve done, you will probably just get some community service, maybe a fine. I should have known better. Yes, you should have. Breaking into wyndemere was a very foolish thing to do. But, esme — esme, look at me. If you take responsibility for what you’ve done, I think you’re gonna feel better. So, look, tomorrow morning we will go down together to the pcpd. Wait. You’re coming with me? Yes, of course I’m gonna go with you, dear. I wouldn’t make you do something so awful all by yourself.

[ Cellphone ringing ] Curtis? Hello? Hey, laura. Um, I hope I’m not bothering you, but you need to get down to the hospital.

It’s about your brother. You know, I never really felt like my parents saw me for who I was. I could have really used a friend like joss back then. It’s weird that… you can relate to my problems. I mean, you seem… you’re so together. Things got a lot better for me when I got out of my parents’ house. How’d you get out? I enlisted. I can’t do that. I’m not saying that you should. I’m just saying there’s a big world out there way beyond your parents’ judgment. You just got to stick with it until you can see it. Things do get better. Really think so? I know so. Any idea what this is about?

[ Sighs ] Only one way to find out. Hey. Thanks for getting here so quickly. Um, hi. Your mom’s in the living room. Go ahead.

[ Door closes ] Mom, what happened? Um…

[ Voice breaking ] It’s about grandma. She passed away. Sonny: You said you’d never lie to me. I know never is a long time. But you cracked pretty quick, didn’t you? And I hated every second that I kept you in the dark. Right. But not enough to come clean, right? Sonny… don’t throw away our life together because of one stupid mistake. I am so sorry. We’re stronger than — stop saying you’re sorry!

[ Door opens ] Sonny? What are you doing in the dark? Where is nina? Gone. Only daisy cottage cheese will do come on. Thank you, dex.

[ Sighs ] Happy new year. What happened? Well…

[ Sighs ] Grandma was staying at uncle luke’s apartment. She went to sleep and she never woke up. She passed away peacefully. She seemed fine when I talked to her on christmas. Yeah. She was happy.

[ Voice breaking ] She was happy. And you two were a big reason why she was.

[ Sighs ] Grandma always had my back, no matter how many times I screwed up. She was our rock. What are we gonna do without her? I don’t know. But we’re gonna get through this together. Come here.

[ All crying ] Curtis. Curtis. Hey, laura. Hey. Hey. Thank you for calling me. Glad I can help. So, what do you know about what happened? The paramedics said that the priest found cyrus at the all saints chapel. He was alone. He’s inside. No, no, I’m — I’m on my way — way home now. I’ll be there in 10.

[ Gasps ]

[ Monitor beeping ] How is he? I got him stabilized. But he hasn’t regained consciousness yet. Who did this to him?

[ Switch clicks ]

[ Gasps ] Hey, sonny. Why don’t you get that hand cleaned up, okay? Sonny, avery can’t see you like that, right?

[ Sniffs, sighs ]

[ Keys jangling ] How’s sonny? Did you tell him the truth about the sec? God, nina. You… I don’t think you should be here. H-he is in a bad way. I know. I just need to talk to him. Just for a minute. I-I told carly and drew everything. I just — I just came from there. If I could just talk… sonny. I…I… I just came…

[ Door slams ]
