Recap written by Christine

At the Grand Phoenix lounge, Chloe and Chelsea met to practice their pitch before seeing Lauren. Chelsea wasn’t feeling confident, so Chloe gave her a pep talk. Chelsea said that this wasn’t just a business deal, it was the start of a new beginning, and she needed to make it stick. Chloe thought it’d help if Chelsea took shots at Sally during the meeting, because Lauren had more issues with her than Chelsea did.

At Society, Jack showed Lauren pictures of Harrison learning to ski. Summer had been worried, but Kyle found the perfect instructor to teach the boy. Jack felt like he was missing out on so much. They talked about Phyllis possibly moving to Italy. Lauren said Jack was acting nonchalant, but she suspected he was hoping Phyllis turned the job down and stayed in Genoa City. Jack thought Phyllis should do what made her happy. Lauren asked why Jack was being so coy about his opinion. She said she’d be sad if Phyllis moved, though she’d understand why Phyllis needed a change. He vowed to support Phyllis no matter what, but he admitted he’d miss her if she left. He missed her now, even though she hadn’t been gone long. Lauren thought they were making progress, now that Jack was admitting he had feelings for Phyllis. He said his feelings for Phyllis were complicated and deep. She asked what he’d say if Phyllis walked in right now. He saw no reason to say anything, since that wasn’t happening. Lauren gestured toward the door, and Jack saw a smiling Phyllis walk in.

Phyllis just flew in, but she couldn’t sleep, due to jetlag. She wondered if she was interrupting a business meeting. Jack said he and Lauren were just catching up. Lauren had a meeting soon. At that moment, Chelsea and Chloe walked in. Everyone started chatting about Chelsea and Chloe’s business plans, and Phyllis approved when she learned that Sally was no longer in the picture. Phyllis heard Chelsea was staying at her hotel. “So, you got rid of Adam, you got rid of Sally. All that toxicity out of your life, good for you,” Phyllis said.

Lauren, Chelsea and Chloe went to their table and made their pitch. Chelsea showed off her sketches. Lauren asked what name they were thinking of using. Chelsea said they were leaving Chelsea 2.0 behind even though it was successful. Chloe said they were leaning toward Bella Milconno, the names of their kids. Lauren was impressed with the presentation, and she couldn’t wait to see what Chelsea and Chloe brought to Fenmore’s. Chloe said family gatherings would be so much smoother, because things would’ve been awkward if she’d turned them down. Lauren didn’t even think about that when she made her decision. Chelsea was glad to have this chance to rebuild her life. She said she was going to prove herself to Lauren. Lauren said if she didn’t think Chelsea had changed, they wouldn’t be having this conversation.

Phyllis told Jack her trip was wonderful, challenging and enlightening. It was great spending so much time with Summer, Kyle and Harrison. Initially, the job offer was intimidating to her. He didn’t buy that, because she was never intimidated by anything. He asked if she was taking the job. She said she’d have to be fluent in Italian, and she’d be overseeing a bunch of young hotshots and she’d be immersed in the fashion industry. He was sure she could do it. She knew she could, but did she want to? He noted that she’d been saying there was nothing tying her to Genoa City. She knew she’d been saying that, but she forgot that Genoa City was her home, and it made her who she was. She asked if she wanted to go to Milan and change who she was. He said that he’d wanted to tell her all those things before she left, but he figured she had to learn that for herself. He asked if she was going to stay. Phyllis loved the thought of working with her daughter, but she loved her life here, and she was staying. Working for a big fashion house wasn’t her dream, it was her daughter’s dream. Jack was glad to hear Phyllis was staying. He asked if she wanted to have that dinner now, and she said yes. As Lauren left the restaurant, she looked at Phyllis and Jack and smiled.

Phyllis gushed about how cute Harrison was. She wondered if he got his charm from his Grandpa. Jack said she didn’t have to flatter him to get what she wanted. She asked what she wanted. He thought she wanted dessert. After dessert, he offered to give her a ride home. He got a random text from an LA area code. It was just an address. He thought it was the wrong number, and he sent a message saying so. While Phyllis was getting their coats, he got another text. “No. This message is for you, Jack Abbott. You need to go to Los Angeles.” Jack asked why and who this person was. “Something you’ve been missing,” was the reply.

Rey met Abby at Crimson Lights. He was a bit surprised she reached out with everything going on with Dominic. She said they got good news – Devon was a perfect bone marrow match. There was nothing else she could do about that tonight, so she wanted to talk about Chance and the stakeout. She’d asked Chance what happened, and he said he wasn’t ready to go back to work. Abby sensed there was more to it, and she wanted Rey to tell her what happened that night. Rey didn’t feel comfortable breaching his partner’s trust. Abby understood that, but as Chance’s wife, she wanted to help, and she couldn’t do that if she didn’t know what was coming on. All Rey was comfortable saying was that it became clear to him and Chance that Chance wasn’t ready. Abby thought Chance didn’t open up because he didn’t want to burden her, but he could never be a burden, and keeping everything inside was the worst thing he could do. She urged Rey to talk to Chance, cop to cop, and convince him that he didn’t have to pretend everything was okay for his family’s sake.

Chance went back to the alley where he’d been on the stakeout. He flashed back to what happened that night. He’d had a panic attack when he heard breaking glass, and he never left his hiding spot to provide backup. Rey returned and said another officer got the perp. Chance had castigated himself because he’d choked, and Rey’s assurance that it was fine didn’t help. Chance said it was just like in Spain – his team needed him, and he let them down. Rey said this was nothing like Spain – no one got hurt. “You didn’t fail. You just came back too soon. You’re not ready to be on the job yet,” Rey said. Chance felt like he never would be. He apologized and left.

After Chance relieved the stakeout in the alley, he went home and saw Abby and Rey in the living room. Chance asked about the baby – he was sleeping. Chance was anxious for Dom to get the procedure. Abby asked where Chance went. Chance wanted to know what Rey was doing here. Abby said that she asked Rey about the stakeout. Chance testily asked what Rey said. Rey said he didn’t say much, because it wasn’t his place. Abby asked Chance to open up to Rey, then she left the room. Chance was angry Rey talked to Chance’s wife about him behind his back. Rey said he and Abby were both concerned. Chance snapped that he was fine, and he told Rey to go deal on his own family and let Chance deal with his. “My house is in order, partner. Yours is not,” Rey replied. When Chance argued against that, Rey pointed out that, even with a sick baby, Abby tracked him down and asked him to help Chance. Chance said Abby shouldn’t have come to Rey. Rey asked why Chance wouldn’t open up to Abby. Chance said Abby was already dealing with too much, because of the baby, and he didn’t want to add this to her plate. Rey said that Abby and Chance were in this together, and it was all one big plate. Chance said Rey didn’t understand. “I understand that if you don’t open up to her, she’s not gonna be in the picture at all,” Rey said. Rey told Chance to tell Abby what she was feeling, because she could help. Rey thought that if Chance kept suppressing his feelings, he’d explode.

Chance thought Rey and Abby were making too much of this. Rey disagreed. He knew that Chance had seen things most people couldn’t imagine, but whatever happened in Spain was too traumatic for one person to handle alone. Chance insisted he was handling it. Rey said that this was going to keep impacting Chance’s health until he dealt with it. Chance appreciated Rey’s concern, but this was between him and his wife. Rey agreed, and he said Abby needed to be part of this. “She needs all of you, man. Not just some hollowed out shell of what you used to be,” Rey said. Rey thought Chance needed to do a lot of work before he came to the force, and part of that included letting his guard down with his wife. Abby returned, and Rey left.

Chance told Abby that he didn’t want to stress her out, so he was trying to keep this away from her. She said she loved him, and she was going to worry, especially when he shut down. Her imagination was conjuring up all kinds of things about the stakeout because she didn’t know the truth. He was sorry. She didn’t want him to apologize or feel guilty. She reminded him that, the other day, he said they needed to lean on each other and do what was best for Dominic, which meant doing what was best for them. She wanted him to lean on her and let her be strong for him. He said it wasn’t that easy. She knew he wanted to handle this on his own, and she tried to step back and respect that, but things were getting worse, and she didn’t know what the next few months would look like for them and their son, but they were only going to get through this if they were a united front.

Chance told Abby that, as soon as he got to the stakeout, he pretended everything was okay, but it wasn’t. He’d felt tense and the fear rising up in him. He was reliving Spain. He spiraled and thought he was putting Rey and the others in danger and that he could get them killed, just like in Spain. He heard a loud noise, and he froze. He couldn’t back up his partner or do anything else. It scared the hell out of him. Abby hated that Chance went through that, but she was really glad he told her. She was adamant that he was strong and brave, but she said his family needed him to find a way to cope so he could heal, and they needed him to do it now.

Chelsea and Chloe went to Crimson Lights after their meeting. Chelsea wanted to get to work right away. While Chloe was placing orders, Chelsea looked over and saw Rey sitting in the booth. She remembered the time she dreamed that he kissed her. In reality, Rey approached Chelsea and asked why she was so excited when she came in. she told him about the business deal. He was glad her hard work paid off, and he thought it was great that she was out of Newman Media, away from Adam. He thought Chelsea should be proud of herself, and he knew Connor would be. He went to his table, and Chelsea and Chloe talked. Kevin got overwhelmed with the kids, and Esther was out with friends, so Chloe had to go home. Chelsea invited Rey to join her, and he did.

Devon: Hey.

Billy: Hey. Thank you for making this happen so early.

Devon: Absolutely. Absolutely. It all worked out well, given how iffy my day is going.

Billy: Yeah, I’m sure it’s a stressful time. Have you heard anything about what’s causing dom’s symptoms?

Devon: I have not. I have not. It’s not easy.

Billy: No, it’s not. I remember when delia had leukemia. We were looking for a bone marrow donor.

Devon: I forgot that you went through that at all.

Billy: Yeah. You know, it was a long time ago, but the memories are still very much vivid.

Devon: I can imagine. Getting together yesterday and talking about lily’s idea helped occupy my mind for a little bit, but just so you know, if abby or chance or the hospital calls, i might need to cut this meeting short.

Billy: Absolutely. What do you say we dive in?

Devon: Yes, please. Let’s do it.

Billy: Okay, so I put together a little something here. Take a look.

Devon: Oh, wow.

Billy: [ Chuckles ]

Devon: Goodness, man, you — it’s color-coded.

Billy: Yeah.

Devon: Look at that. You were not joking when you said you were thinking big.

Billy: Well, you know what? I woke up in the middle of the night, and I had a few ideas i wanted to jot down before they disappeared, and then everything else kind of kept flowing, so —

Devon: Hang on a second, you did this last night?

Billy: Yeah, pretty much.

Devon: So you were up late last night, the night before that, and two nights ago? Do you ever sleep?

Billy: [ Sighs ]

Lily: When I saw this, i couldn’t resist.

Amanda: Oh, “jazz baby.” That is the cutest.

Lily: I know. On dom, it’s gonna be adorable.

Amanda: Thank you. Thank you so much. That’s so thoughtful.

Lily: Of course. Any excuse to buy baby things.

Amanda: [ Chuckles ]

Lily: How’s he doing, by the way? Is he feeling any better?

Amanda: Well, according to devon, nothing has changed. He’s still lethargic. He’s not eating the way that he should.

Lily: Does the doctor know what’s going on yet?

Amanda: They’re still waiting on test results.

Lily: Well, I really hope it’s something easy to treat.

Amanda: Yeah, me too. But I’m assuming that you’re not just here to drop off a baby gift.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Well, no, I also wanted to chat with you one-on-one, see how you’re doing. And, you know, just wondering how your law practice is going.

Amanda: Good, good. It’s going really, really well. Um, it’s a little slow right now. That’s why I’m home today. But we did get a huge rush of clients in the beginning, so much so that we had to turn people away, but now the wave of cases are wrapping up, so…

Lily: Must be nice to have a breather.

Amanda: Yeah, but we are gonna need to drum up some clients soon to pay for this fancy office space.

Lily: Wow, that’s a lot of pressure.

Amanda: Yeah. I’m not overly concerned. My sister imani, she has a lot of political connections and we have friends and family who have agreed to, you know, refer clients our way, so…

Lily: Yeah, but are sutton’s cronies gonna want to work with the lawyer who helped bring him down?

Amanda: Why would you ask that? Because it sounds like you’re trying to make me have doubts about my firm.

Lily: No, I’m not. I just, you know, think maybe you should cast a wider net for clients.

Amanda: Well, I am doing some networking on my own. But if there was someone specific that you had in mind, i would love to hear it.

Lily: Well, actually, I do of a pretty big client looking for legal representation.

Amanda: Really?

Lily: Mm-hmm.

Amanda: Who is it?

Lily: It’s me.

Amanda: [ Scoffs ]

[ Cellphone rings ]

Rey: There we go — right over there, there’s our guy. You see him?

Chance: Yep.

Rey: He’s disabling the security system. Alright, so, I’m gonna circle around to the east side of the house. When I get there, you come at him from the other side, alright?

Chance: Yeah. Okay.

[ Smashing ]

Abby: Great, there’s coffee. I’m definitely gonna need this today.

Chance: How’s dom doing? How’s he feeling? Or how’s he seem?

Abby: [ Sighs ] Well, he’s sweet and affectionate. I tried to sing him that goofy song that he really likes — the one that always makes him laugh — and I could barely get a smile out of him. Then he went back to sleep. I mean, we have to figure out what is causing this.

Chance: Yeah, don’t worry. The doctors are on it. We should be getting these test results back any time now.

Abby: I’m just so thankful that you’re here and I have you to lean on. I mean, if this had happened while you were away, I would be losing my mind. I’m already close to it.

[ Sighs ] Just when you hold me in your arms, you make me believe that our little boy is gonna be okay.

Amanda: You need a lawyer? What for? Is there some kind of issue with your contract at chancellor industries?

Lily: No, no, jill’s been great. She accommodated all of my requests.

Amanda: Oh, wow, that’s nice.

Lily: Yeah, no, she really believes in my vision for the company, even though my method is less traditional.

Amanda: Well, I’m so glad to hear that because that is not always the case. You know, I remember my partner back in madison. He was fairly stuck in his ways, and that was so frustrating at times. That’s why I’m trying really hard with imani, since she’s a little less experienced, not to be so rigid about, “this is the way that it’s done.” It’s good to be open to new ideas, you know?

Lily: Yeah, no, it is. I mean, honestly, I wish more people were like it. I mean, we have some, you know, senior execs at chancellor that are great — they’ve been there for years — but, you know, they’re very resistant to change and innovation.

Amanda: Putting up road blocks, testing your limits.

Lily: Yes, absolutely, and then to top it all off, we had someone resign, someone that i had been hoping to promote to division head.

Amanda: I’m sorry. That must have been so disappointing.

Lily: Yeah, but, honestly, in the end, it’s for the best. I mean, billy and I want people there that believe in where the company is headed.

Amanda: Yeah, and you had that at chanccomm, and it produced great results.

Lily: I know that because you were one of my top people on the team. So when I said I needed legal representation, that’s what i had in mind. I want you to work with billy and me again, but this time, at the mothership — chancellor corporate.

Billy: You know what? I got too much going on right now. So I will sleep when I’m old.

Devon: I hope you’re kidding. I know lily wouldn’t want you to run yourself ragged making this project happen, that’s for sure.

Billy: I appreciate your concern, but really, it’s not a big deal. You know, it just — it feels like lately that’s where I’m getting most of my thinking done, where I’m feeling creative. I don’t know, maybe it’s the darkness, maybe it’s the fact that everyone’s sleeping and it’s actually quiet.

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Billy: Maybe that’s why they call it the witching hour, because anything’s possible.

Devon: Aren’t you exhausted when you go to work the next day, though?

Billy: Well, that’s the thing. It can be a little bit tricky, but it’s nice to work from home. Sneak in a little nap once in a while. Who knows, maybe I’ll turn out to be nocturnal.

Devon: [ Laughs ] I don’t know if lily would like that very much.

Billy: Well, it does have its benefits.

Devon: Does it?

Billy: Mm-hmm.

Devon: Like what?

Billy: Hmm. For instance, a few nights ago, I was up late, you know, thinking about things, putting some things down on tape, and lily came downstairs, and I let her listen to a little bit about it. And it really sparked an interesting conversation.

Devon: What was the topic of this conversation?

Billy: Life, you know? All those big questions, all those things that we feel. Should I slow down? Should I speed up? Should I go in a completely different direction? How do I make sure that fear and doubt don’t consume my life? You know, just stuff we all feel.

Devon: Sounds like a mid-life crisis without the actual crisis part, though.

Billy: Yep, you nailed it there. Um…but let me just be very clear, I am extremely happy where I am right now, and I want to do everything I can to make sure that I keep it that way.

Abby: [ Sighs ] Do you think I should wake up dominic, make sure he gets something to eat?

Chance: Maybe we should just let him rest till we know more.

Abby: Okay, if you think so.

Chance: Abby, you having any second thoughts about telling your family what’s going on? You know, maybe we could use some more support.

Abby: No, no, no, there’s no need to worry everyone possibly for no reason. And if there is something wrong… you know what? Let’s just forget that I said that, okay? I have all of the support that i need from you. Unless, well, did you ask me that because you need somebody else to talk to?

Chance: No. No, I’m okay.

Abby: Hey, it’s totally fine if you need to talk to a friend. I will not be offended. What about rey? Did you tell him what was going on when you were at the stakeout?

Chance: Yeah, you know, we — we talked about it briefly. He knows we took dominic to the doctor.

Abby: And that’s why he understood that you had to leave early?

[ Cellphone rings ] It’s nate. Maybe he has news. Nate, hey. Have you heard from the specialist? Are dominic’s test results back yet? I’m in love again with this!

Amanda: Lily, that is an amazing offer. I appreciate you thinking of me.

Lily: You are my first choice. I mean, honestly, you’re my only choice.

Amanda: And I am flattered. Thank you. But…the timing is just not right. I just started my own practice.

Lily: Yeah, but you just said that you needed more clients.

Amanda: I also said that I’m very confident we will find them, so…

Lily: Look, I’m really hoping this opportunity is too exciting for you to pass up. I mean, I am asking you to be my new chief counsel. I want you to be in charge of all of chancellor’s legal operations.

Amanda: Wait, that is a senior-level executive role.

Lily: Yes, which you are more than qualified for. You did amazing work at chanccomm.

Amanda: Yeah, that was a relatively small division of a larger corporation. We’re talking about chancellor. It’s huge — international.

Lily: Right, so think of it as a promotion, right? One that you have fully earned.

Amanda: Lily, you must have dozens of lawyers there who have decades of experience. Why wouldn’t you want to put one of them in charge?

Lily: Because no one has decades of experience in the areas that I want to focus on. The things I want to do didn’t exist five years ago, right? Like the podcast project that billy and devon are working on.

Amanda: Yeah, devon did tell me about that.

Lily: Yeah, I want to work with people that have grown up with advanced technology, people that are comfortable with the pace of innovation.

Amanda: You have really given this a lot of thought, huh?

Lily: I have. Look, I’ve come to realize that working at chanccomm was the perfect preparation for what I’m doing now. We always did stories on the future of business and technology, you know? And now I’m in a position to make sure that chancellor doesn’t miss out on that.

Amanda: Well, you are right about that.

Lily: Yeah, but I want to do it with a strong team behind me, with people like you who are smart and capable and forward-thinking.

Amanda: Okay, whoa, whoa, whoa. Lily, just — you got to just give me a second to catch my breath, okay?

Abby: Okay, yeah, thank you, nate. We’ll see you in a bit.

Chance: What’d he say?

Abby: Uh, he’s going to bring dr. Alston over here to personally explain the results. I guess I’ll call devon and ask him to join us.

Chance: They’re making a house call?

Abby: Nate thought that we would be more comfortable here, and that way we don’t have to disturb dom, since he’s not feeling well, or leave him.

Chance: Okay. Uh…okay, that’s very accommodating of them.

Abby: Yeah.

[ Sighs ] If this were good news or something minor, they would have just told us over the phone, right?

Chance: We shouldn’t speculate, okay? We’ll know soon enough. I mean, what did he exactly say, word-for-word?

Abby: Well, nate didn’t want to get into it because hematology is not his field. He said that dr. Alston will explain everything and go over all of our questions.

Chance: Okay, well, that’s what matters, right? Getting answers. So we’ll find out what’s wrong and what to do about it, and we’ll get dominic whatever he needs.

Abby: Yeah.

Billy: I think this right here, that might be one of my favorite ideas. You know, everybody loves a good q&a, whether it’s about, you know, parenting or relationships or your neighbors or your job or whatever. It would be our modern version of a classic newspaper column.

Devon: Sure, and that’s a time-tested format.

Billy: Yeah, absolutely. I mean, everybody’s — we’re all asking questions, we’re all trying to fix things about ourselves, and this would be very intriguing. It would almost be like living vicariously through someone else’s thoughts and feelings. We’d be like a fly on the wall. I think people would really like it.

Devon: I agree with you. I mean, I sought some chats and blogs on parenting that I found to be really helpful.

Billy: Because they are.

Devon: Yeah.

Billy: And once we get off the ground, people are gonna write in, and we’ll have no shortage of material.

Devon: Yeah, you’re right about that. I mean, it makes the possibilities endless for what we can talk about. And like you said, I mean, i think too, we’re all asking ourselves those big life questions every day, like you’re doing up late at night.

Billy: Yeah, exactly. You know, maybe I’ll start my own podcast.

Devon: That’s not a bad idea.

Billy: Oh, come on.

Devon: It’s not.

Billy: Actually, you know what? It is a good idea because if my midnight musings bore people to tears, we can flip it on its head and use it as a cure for insomnia.

Devon: Oh, come on.

Billy: I’ll acquire a upper-crust british accent and i will talk about my feelings.

Devon: You’re joking. I’m being very serious about it. I really am, ’cause you said that your soul-searching led to a really valuable conversation with lily, and you could be doing that for a lot of other people on a much wider scale.

Billy: I don’t know about that.

Devon: Nah, encouraging them to dig deep.

[ Cellphone rings ] Hang on one second.

Billy: Yeah.

Devon: It’s nate.

Billy: Take it.

Devon: Thank you. Hey, what’s the update? Okay, alright, I’ll be over right away. Thanks. So he and the specialist are heading to the chancellor mansion to fill everybody in on dominic’s condition.

Billy: Go, go. We’ll pick this up another time.

Devon: I appreciate that very much.

Billy: Of course.

Devon: This is great work. I really, really love your ideas, man.

Billy: Thank you very much. But listen, most importantly, i hope dom is okay.

Devon: I do too. Thank you, man.

Billy: Okay.

Devon: I’ll check in with you.

Billy: Yeah.

Devon: See you.

Billy: [ Sighs ]

If you have medicare

and medicaid,

Devon: We’re just here waiting for nate and the specialist to arrive.

Amanda: Okay, well, did you want me to join you?

Devon: No, no, you don’t have to do that. It shouldn’t take too long. But I’ll fill you in once we speak to the doctor.

Amanda: Alright, well, um, we’ll say a prayer on our end.

Devon: I appreciate that very much. I love you.

Abby: Oh, devon, you’re here.

Devon: Hey.

Abby: Hey.

Devon: Chance told me that you were up with dominic. How is he doing?

Abby: Uh, he’s okay. Um, doesn’t seem uncomfortable or like he’s in any pain, but he doesn’t have much energy or an appetite.

Devon: Okay. Well, listen, I think the fact that nate and the specialist didn’t tell us to rush dominic to the hospital after they got the results is a great sign. ‘Cause if it was a medical emergency, they would have done that, you know?

Chance: That’s a good point.

Abby: [ Sighs ] Nate’s car just pulled up. They’re here.

Amanda: [ Sighs ] It’s so hard waiting for news about dominic.

Lily: It’s okay, I’m sure we’re gonna have some answers soon.

Amanda: Yeah, I know, I know. I’m just — I’m not the most patient person in the world.

Lily: Okay, well, then let me distract you. Let’s keep chatting about you coming to work with billy and me.

Amanda: You are really persuasive, you know that?

Lily: It comes in handy, I’m telling you.

Amanda: Yeah, I see now how you were able to convince billy to be your second-in-command.

Lily: Well, no —

Amanda: I really — I just want to say, I did not think that his pride would have allowed him to do that, especially since you guys were on equal footing at chanccomm.

Lily: I know. Honestly, it was not easy. He turned me down the first couple times I asked him.

Amanda: Well, what made him change his mind?

Lily: Well, I don’t know. I think I just gave him some space and let him find his own path. You know, at first, he was just so focused on getting back at the people responsible for what happened at chanccomm, but then I think he realized it wasn’t making him happy and he was letting his ego get in the way of him, you know, doing something that was a great opportunity.

Amanda: And now he’s fully on board. He’s ready to be your lieutenant?

Lily: Yeah, I mean, I didn’t think it’d be easy, but it’s been great. We actually fight less now that there’s a, you know, very clear line as to who has the final say.

Amanda: Yeah, chain-of-command is a good thing.

Lily: Yeah, and billy knows that I love having him on board and that I actually want to hear his ideas. So now, if he brings me something and I’m not sold on it, he’ll either go and make a revision or he’ll, you know, let it go.

Amanda: Really? I mean, billy can do that? We’re talking about a man who has a lot of conviction about his own ideas.

Lily: I know. That’s a very nice way of saying that he’s stubborn as hell, which, yes, is true, but, no, he’s really excited about the transformation of chancellor, you know? We’re having a lot of fun.

Amanda: Well, I am glad that your partnership survived the shake-up at chanccomm, and i know that you two will do amazing things together.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Amanda: And I have to say, i am pretty impressed that billy has grown and evolved so much that he can embrace this supporting role, but the idea of giving up my new practice —

Lily: Okay, whoa, whoa, wait. Hold on. Don’t finish that thought, okay? I want to come with me.

Amanda: Where are we going?

Lily: Well, before you decide anything, there’s someone I want you to talk to.

Amanda: [ Scoffs ]

[ Groans ]

Chance: Thank you both for coming. Um, obviously, we’re really worried about our son here. We’re hoping you guys can shed some light for us.

Nate: Well, I’m going to defer to dr. Alston’s expertise.

Dr. Alston: Thank you, dr. Hastings. The first thing you need to know is that the results of the bone marrow aspiration showed no sign of leukemia.

Abby: Oh, thank god.

Chance: Yeah, that’s a relief.

Devon: That’s amazing we can rule that out.

Abby: I mean, are you any closer to finding out what is causing dominic’s symptoms?

Dr. Alston: We ran another test, and it revealed that dominic has a rare blood disorder. That’s what led to the low red blood cell count and the resulting fatigue and loss of appetite.

Abby: That sounds very serious.

Nate: Unfortunately, it is.

Dr. Alston: I recommend we treat this now, before it causes any other issues such as growth deficiencies, digestive problems, or frequent infections like pneumonia. Left unaddressed, this will likely lead to bone marrow failure.

Chance: Okay, so what does the treatment involve?

Devon: And what can we do to help?

Dr. Alston: The best way to combat this disease is a bone marrow transplant. Age-related macular degeneration may lead to severe vision loss.

“The young and the restless”

will continue. In here, it’s savings on a wide range of appliances.

Dr. Alston: In the best-case scenario, post-transplant, dominic will begin producing healthy bone marrow and red blood cells on his own.

Devon: And what’s the worst-case scenario? Does his body reject the donation?

Dr. Alston: Well, a lot of that depends on the compatibility of the donor.

Abby: Can I be a donor or devon? I mean, we are his biological parents. We must be compatible, right?

Nate: I’m afraid it’s not that simple.

Devon: Why isn’t it that simple?

Nate: It’s rare for a family member other than a sibling to be fully compatible. Although you both should get tested just in case. You’ll be half-matches at least, since dominic gets 50% of his genetic material from each of you.

Dr. Alston: There have been successful transplants using parental donors that are only half-compatible, but if we were to take that route, we would have to take special measures to reduce the chance of rejection.

Chance: I’m guessing the risks are higher in that case.

Dr. Alston: It’s not ideal, but it may be our best option.

Devon: Okay, so what do i have to do to get tested as quickly as possible?

Nate: Dr. Alston and I will head back to memorial and set that up for you immediately.

Devon: Good.

Abby: I’m gonna go too. I’m gonna go get tested. Thank you so much for coming over, explaining all of this to us, even though it was difficult to hear.

Dr. Alston: I understand you’re frightened. However, there is real hope for dominic to live a happy and healthy life.

Chance: Hey, are you okay?

Abby: Um, I guess it’s better to know what we’re up against, right?

Chance: Yeah. Um…let me get your coat and I’ll drive you.

Abby: No, no, I’m gonna drive myself.

Chance: What do you mean?

Abby: I think you should stay here in case dominic wakes up and he wants his dad to hold him.

Chance: Are you sure you want to go alone?

Abby: Just please tell me that this is all gonna be okay.

Chance: Hey, hey. I am here for you. Okay? No matter what. We will get through this as a family, I promise you.

Lily: Hello, hello. Surprise, surprise.

Billy: Whoa, yes. Please tell me this what it looks like it is. Tell me you’re joining the team.

Lily: Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold on. I haven’t closed the sale yet.

Billy: Come on.

Lily: I thought she should speak with somebody who also was very reluctant to join, but now is so glad that he did. So…

Billy: Yes, he is very glad that he did. Sit down, amanda. Look, what can I tell you, okay? This is where it’s at. Not here exactly. Of course, we’re working from home because our offices are being expanded, but I wish we could go to chancellor because you would actually feel the vibe. It’s electrifying. And the entire team is on board and ready to revitalize this business. And, you know, there’s nothing that can’t be challenged with us right now. Everything — if there’s something that somebody feels that they can do better, we don’t only welcome that, we actually reward it.

Amanda: Wow. Well, it sounds like the ideal work environment, and I’m not surprised. And I heard about your venture with hamilton-winters, so I know there’s some sharp thinking going on here.

Billy: There is, and I know you loved working with us. We loved working with you. And now you will have more autonomy, a bigger office, a bigger paycheck — what’s not to love about that?

Amanda: If you haven’t forgotten, I have all the autonomy that I could ever want. I just opened my own firm with my sister as my junior partner.

Billy: Yeah, we know that.

Amanda: Okay, guys, I know that you guys are used to working with family, but this is all so new to me and I can’t — I can’t just walk out on my sister.

Lily: No, amanda, we would never ask you to do that. We want you to know, there’s a place for imani at chancellor.

Billy: Yeah, absolutely. What kind of role do you think she would want? Maybe entertainment law or real estate or what about political lobbying? Or, hey, maybe she works directly with you, you as her mentor. Either way, there is a place for her.

Amanda: Okay, I never even considered the possibility that imani would be coming with me.

Lily: Yeah, we know that you’re a package deal. That suits us just fine.

Billy: The more, the merrier.

Amanda: If you’re serious…

Lily: Look, we would love to chat with imani and address any concerns she may have.

Amanda: Oh, god, you guys are making this really hard to say no. Okay, I’ll talk to her. I will talk to her and I will get back to you. Facing expensive vitamin c creams with dull results?

Lily: Thank you for backing up my recruitment efforts.

Billy: Of course. Happy to do it. I think it would be great if amanda was head of our legal affairs. Plus, if I ever get tempted to cross a line again…

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Well, I would love to believe that your questionable tactics are behind us.

Billy: I’m just kidding. But we both know it’s important to have a fantastic lawyer on the payroll.

Lily: Very true. How’d your meeting with devon go? Did you get through everything before he had to leave to meet with the doctor?

Billy: Yeah, we touched base on a few concepts, and I think he really dug them. And then he got a phone call and had to take off, but it was good.

Lily: Good. I really hope that everything’s okay with dom.

Billy: Yeah.

Lily: Devon loves that baby so much. If anything were seriously wrong —

Billy: Well, let’s just remember that that little baby’s cousin is one of the head honchos at memorial and his grandfather’s victor newman. He’s gonna get the best care possible.

Devon: [ Sighs ]

Amanda: There you are.

Devon: Hey.

Amanda: Did you get my message?

Devon: I did, yeah. I apologize for not getting back to you right away. But we had to — we had to go straight to the hospital from abby and chance’S.

Amanda: The hospital?

Devon: Yeah.

Amanda: Dom needed to go to the hospital?

Devon: No, dom didn’t need to go. Abby and me went to go get tested to be donors.

Amanda: What kind of donors?

Devon: [ Sighs ] Dominic has a blood disorder. And that’s why he’s been so tired all of a sudden. Some kind of issue with his red blood cell count, and according to the specialist that nate brought in, he needs to have a bone marrow transplant.

Amanda: Oh, my god. Oh, my god. What does that even entail?

Devon: Uh, the procedure’s actually pretty simple, but the hard part’s gonna be finding a donor.

Amanda: What if you can’t?

Devon: If we can’t or even if we do and it doesn’t work, they’re talking about complete bone marrow failure, where all these horrible things could happen to him and his whole young life would be a living hell.

Amanda: God, I am so sorry. I’m so sorry. What did the doctors say? Did they say that you and abby can be donors? What do they think?

Devon: I don’t know. We didn’t get the test results back yet, but we’re probably just gonna be a half-match.

Amanda: Why? Why can’t they get a closer match for dominic? He has so much family right here in town.

Devon: Yeah, and none of them are gonna have as close as a dna match as his biological parents. Usually the only other person that would be a sibling, which he doesn’t have, and if you want to get a perfect match, he’d have to have a —

Amanda: Identical twin. The only instance where two people share the same dna.

Devon: Right. So, you know, me and abby are probably gonna be as good as it gets, which isn’t optimal, and it’s just another way of saying that we might not be able to save him.

Rey: Hope it’s not a bad time. Just thought I’d check in, see how things were going. I remember you mentioned that dom was getting some tests run.

Chance: Yeah, yeah, we — we got the test results back.

Rey: I take it the news isn’t good.

Chance: No, he’s — something wrong with his bone marrow, his blood, and that affects everything — you know, immune system, growth, all that.

Rey: Is it treatable?

Chance: Yeah, he needs a bone marrow transplant.

Rey: [ Sighs ]

Chance: Abby and devon are at the hospital right now, seeing if they can donate.

Rey: I feel for you, man. I’ve been there twice before in similar situations. Once when lola needed a transplant and then again with faith. I know how terrifying it is just waiting for the news for a possible match. It’s hard, partner.

Chance: Thanks. You know, the doctor’s saying there’s hope, so hanging on to that.

Rey: Yeah. Well, sharon and I will keep you in our prayers. I’ll relay the message to paul. Obviously, nobody’s gonna expect you at work right now under these circumstances.

Chance: Yeah, well, that’s not the only reason.

[ Sighs ] On the stakeout, man, when I…

Rey: No, chance, you don’t need to explain.

Chance: Yes, I do. I do. I have to apologize because i let you down.

Rey: [ Sighs ]

Lily: Is that the graphic you made for your pitch to devon?

Billy: Yes, it is.

Lily: What’s — what’s that one? “Midnight musings”?

Billy: Ah. That’s actually kind of funny. Devon and I were joking around about me starting my own podcast based on the late-night ramblings that I’ve been having. I kept it there as a reminder because I thought you’d get a kick out of it.

Lily: Um…I kind of love that.

Billy: No, no, no.

Lily: Yeah.

Billy: We were kidding about it. At least I was kidding about it. It’s not really a thing.

Lily: Wait, did devon like it, too?

Billy: Um…I guess maybe. He just thought that I couldn’t be the only one that’s up late at night philosophizing with a scotch in my hand.

Lily: I mean, it’d be easy to get sponsorships. It’s plenty of liquor companies out there.

Billy: Okay, I am not interested in pouring my heart out for people to hear and, most importantly, judge.

Lily: What do you mean? Don’t be so quick to shoot this down. There’s ways for you to stay anonymous. You could have a pseudonym. You could, you know, write it but then have someone else tell it. I mean, this could be really good for you.

Billy: Okay, are we done? Can we move on?

Lily: Don’t delete that bubble.

Billy: [ Laughs ]

Lily: Do not.

Billy: Yes, ma’am.

Abby: Sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt.

Chance: No, no, no, no. Rey was just stopping by to see how dominic was. I told him everything that’s going on.

Abby: Oh. Thank you for taking the time to stop by.

Rey: Of course. And listen, if there’s anything that sharon and I can do, please let me know. We’ve been there before.

Abby: Yes, I remember.

Chance: I’ll walk you out.

Rey: I know the way.

Chance: Thanks, man.

Rey: Yeah.

Chance: How’d it go? How was the hospital?

Abby: Uh…they are gonna let me know soon if I’m a match.

Chance: Okay, okay, well, fingers crossed at least one of you are.

Abby: Um…so when I walked in, I couldn’t help overhearing you talking to rey. What was that about? I mean, you said something about letting him down.

Chance: Oh, honey, that — that was nothing. I was just apologizing, ’cause, you know, when I ducked out of the stakeout early, it was just poor form on my part. It was nothing.

Abby: Because you thought you were ready to go back, but once you were there, did something specific happen that changed your mind?

Chance: No, baby, stop. You were just right. It was too soon. Look, don’t worry about me. We have much more important things to worry about now.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Abby: It’s dr. Alston. Dr. Alston, hi. It’s abby. Did you get my test results back?

[ Sighs ] I see, so I’m only a half-match, as anticipated. Well, what about devon?

Amanda: We can handle this, okay? We will find out everything we can about this disorder. We will search the globe for donors if we have to. And you are not in this alone, okay? You have me, you have lily and nate and abby and chance and everyone else who loves that little boy. And we will get through this. We will get through this together, okay?

Devon: I know, thank you. I know that you’re right. I just hate that he has to go through any of it.

Amanda: I know.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Devon: It’s the hematologist. Doctor, hello. I’m doing alright. What’s the latest. Are you sure? That — hang on just a second. I’m 100% match for dominic.

Amanda: What?

Devon: [ Laughs ] [ Sighs ] Oh.

Adam: To two wrongs making something very right.

[ Glasses clink ]

[ Breathes deeply ] Uh, well, since you’re now newman media’s coo, we, um — we need to hit the ground running.

Sally: Alrighty.

Adam: Yeah. We need to organize our ideas and craft them into a specific plan.

Sally: Yeah. I guess you need to show the world that you made the smart choice in hiring me.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Well, I’m not worried about what the world thinks because soon everybody is gonna see what i do.

Sally: Well, I feel the exact same way about you. Soon, victor and victoria are gonna have to forget all of their doubts and their worries and accept you as the phenomenal ceo that you are.

[ Laughs ]

Adam: What?

Sally: I’m sorry. I can’t help but laugh. We both flipped out when we walked in here and we saw all of this, the — the flowers and the champagne and the chocolate-covered strawberries.

Adam: I honestly thought that you set all that up.

Sally: I thought it was you! I mean, we acted like it was some, like, terrible breach of our contract to keep things strictly professional.

Adam: Well, we’ve been clear about, um, you know, how we’re gonna make this partnership work. We swore that we were gonna make sure things are uncomplicated.

Sally: Mm-hmm. Yeah. And never, ever actually celebrate a holiday.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Yeah. There’s that. But, uh, would that really have been the, uh, worst thing in the world?

Sally: If I had brought you the chocolate-covered strawberries and the champagne?

Adam: You know what I meant.

Sharon: Hey.

Rey: Hey.

Sharon: How’s it going?

Rey: Well, I have some bad news. I have to work on that burglary case tonight, so I don’t know how late I’ll be home. Trust me — this is not how i wanted to spend valentine’s day with you.

Sharon: Well, that’s okay. I understand. I do. You know, if you marry a cop, you’ve got to expect there’s gonna be late nights and missed holidays.

Rey: Well, I promise I’m gonna make it up to you.

Sharon: I know that you would be wining and dining me if you could.

Rey: Mm.

Sharon: And besides, I like the sounds of making it up to me. I think that’s going to be more fun.

Rey: Wow, you really are an expert at turning lemons into lemonade, huh?

Sharon: Well, I know how much it means to you to catch this burglar. I was asleep when you came in last night after the stakeout. So, how is it working with your partner again? And how did chance do on his first day?

Rey: Well, I hate to say it, but he wasn’t ready.

Sharon: Oh. What happened?

Rey: Well, I’d rather just leave it at that. But it might have been a good thing that chance tested the waters. It’s clear he’s still dealing with a lot. Joining me may have given him the opportunity to realize that he was pushing too soon to return to work.

Sharon: Well, I’m sorry to hear that. But hopefully this will help him find his way and he’ll get the help that he needs.

Rey: That’s what I love about you, you know? You’re always looking on the bright side of things. Which is why I can’t bear for you to go all day without your gifts. You know, I have some time before I have to go in. And while I have you almost all to myself, maybe I can take the time to show you just how much I love you.

Sharon: Well, I like the sound of that.

Rey: [ Chuckles ]

Noah: You know, the meeting with the county review board went well.

Nick: Well, let’s just keep our eye on the ball, alright? We got a long way to go.

Noah: Hey, I mean, is there anything we can do to speed up the process a little bit? This project can help a lot of people. I mean, here it is, valentine’s day already, and we really haven’t made that much progress.

Nick: I mean, these things take time.

Noah: [ Sighs ] Yeah, I get it. I just — I don’t know. I’m just anxious to see it all come together. And these decorations, man — these decorations are really not helping my mood. It is just a constant reminder that you and I are in the same boat this year, S.S. Dateless.

Nick: Are you kidding me? This is a made-up holiday that forces suckers to buy a bunch of candy and flowers, and you aren’t missing anything.

Noah: Oh. Really? Yeah, I’d almost believe that if I hadn’t seen you go all out over the years. So, nice try. You talk a good game, though.

Nick: [ Chuckles ] Well, i guess you got me there. But trust me — I’m fine. Are you okay?

Noah: Yeah. Yeah. You don’t have to worry about me. But, hey, if you’re not doing anything, how about we hang out tonight while the rest of those suckers are out celebrating?

Nick: Yeah. Let’s do it.

Noah: Cool. Well, I should probably get going. I have an errand I need to run before the entire town is overrun with red roses and champagne.

Nick: [ Chuckles ] Yes.

Noah: See ya. Hey, what’s up, man? Good to see you.

Moses: You too. Hey, um, your assistant said you’d be here, and I really need your help.

Nick: Sure, man. What’s up? Sit down.

Moses: Thanks.

Mariah: Hey, you.

Tessa: Ooh. Hi.

Mariah: Aww.

[ Laughs ] Look at this! What a sweet valentine’s day gift.

Tessa: Oh, no, that’s not your gift. That’s just some ambiance to set the stage. I have something way better for you.

Allergies don’t have to be

Rey: So, what do you think? Any ideas? I cannot leave my beautiful wife without showing her how much i love her.

Sharon: You could clean out the walk-in refrigerator.

Rey: Oh. Yeah.

Sharon: Now, a gesture like that — that’s the sign of real love.

Rey: Mm, well, if that’s what it takes, I will do it. Where’s the mop? Let’s go.

Sharon: Wait. Stop. I was just kidding!

Rey: You know, I know. I know. I know what I’ll do. I can give you one of my world-class back massages. Hmm? Guess that wouldn’t look too professional, though.

Sharon: Well, I could lock the door and put the sign out and tell the world that we’re closed. It might be worth it.

Rey: Mm-hmm.

Sharon: You know what? No matter how late you get home, we will celebrate.

Rey: Mmm.

Faith: I am officially freaking out!

Sharon: Why? What happened?

Faith: The day is already half over, and I’ve got nothing. I wanted to get moses something perfect and special, but everything that I come up with is either too casual or too weird. Like, I’m not gonna get him a mug with a soccer ball and “world’s greatest…whatever” on it, like you probably got rey. I mean, that’s too lame.

Rey: A mug?

Sharon: Um, not even close.

Faith: It was just an example, okay? Look, I have been going back and forth about what to get him for so long, my head is going to explode. And now valentine’s day has snuck up on me, and it’s gonna be too late to do anything.

Rey: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Relax. There’s still time to get him something cool.

Faith: Yeah, but what? That’s the problem. I don’t have a clue.

Sharon: Well, he loved that sweater you gave him for christmas. You seem to know what he likes.

Rey: Yeah, or what about a t-shirt from something you two shared together, like a movie or a ball cap or — what’s wrong with a mug? You know? Hey, listen, it’s the thought that counts. He’s gonna love anything you get him.

Faith: Yeah, that’s just the thing. I want to get him something that looks like I put tons of thought into it.

Sharon: Well, you could always make him something. He would love that.

Faith: Seriously, mom? Poster board and glitter?

Moses: Look, I really hate coming to you like this, but I’m desperate. I haven’t gotten anything for faith for valentine’s day, and not only am I running out of ideas, but I’m running out of time, too. So, what do I do?

Nick: Okay, first let’s slow down.

Moses: Yeah, but — i wouldn’t come to you if I had anywhere else to turn. Devon is busy with amanda, and nate’s working. So, who knows faith better than her dad?

Nick: Okay, um, I think her mother might have something to say about that, but I do know faith pretty well. Um…I know she loves that bracelet that you gave her for christmas. And I know this because she wears it every single day.

Moses: Yeah. I mean, that was a really good gift, but it almost got screwed up when I blew it by giving her a book. I mean, what was I thinking?

Nick: [ Laughs ] Alright, I think I can help you. Um, I think the first thing we need to do is figure out what you’re trying to say with this gift. You know, the bracelet that you gave her with the charms and, like, the chess pieces — that said, “I know you. You know, this is something that matters to you, and this is where we are right now.” Right?

Moses: Okay. Yeah.

Nick: So, moses, what is it you’re trying to say with this gift?

Moses: [ Sighs ]

Chloe: Sorry I wasn’t able to work last night.

Chelsea: Oh, don’t be silly. Is bella doing okay after her nightmare?

Chloe: Oh, yeah, she’s fine. I finally got her back to sleep. You know, it’s just all part of the wonderful, unpredictable world of being a parent. Something you know all about.

Chelsea: I do. Connor has had plenty of sleep issues. Apparently now I have sleep issues, too. Yeah, I had awful insomnia last night. Couldn’t sleep. It was driving me nuts. So eventually I got dressed and went to crimson lights.

Chloe: After we talked?

Chelsea: Yeah. I actually bumped into rey there. We had a really nice, normal conversation. I know that doesn’t sound like much, but I’ve just had a hard time lately finding my footing, you know? Talking to rey — it was just nice, you know, to talk to somebody that wasn’t judging me. God knows rey has every reason to.

Chloe: Well, you better get used to it. You’re gonna find fewer people getting all judgey on you now. That’s what your new life without adam is going to look like.

Adam: I was simply agreeing with you about how we reacted to the, uh, champagne before we realized it was from an advertiser. Maybe we were overcompensating a bit.

Sally: Perhaps.

Adam: But look at us. We’re doing a good job of navigating the situation and working together.

Sally: Yes. Yeah, we are. So, uh, let’s stay focused on the big picture.

Adam: Mm-hmm.

Sally: Maybe we start with a list of our most pressing issues.

Adam: Well, the most pressing issue was acknowledging that there’s, uh, something more going on between us, but that we were able to compartmentalize those feelings so it doesn’t get in the way of what we’re trying to accomplish.

Sally: Are we?

[ Glass thuds ]

[ Lock engages ]

[ Objects clattering ]

Sally: [ Laughs ] Kim is now demonstrating her congestion.

[ Objects clattering ]

[ Both breathing heavily ]

Adam: [ Exhales heavily ]

[ Both laugh ] Oh, my god. Oh, my god, that was a surprise.

[ Both breathing heavily ]

Sally: And intense.

Adam: Mm-hmm.

Sally: I’ve waited a really long time for this moment, and I — [Sighs] I still wasn’t prepared for it.

[ Chuckles ]

[ Both breathing heavily ]

[ Both laugh ]

Chloe: Listen to me, chelsea. You are finally on the right track. You have to keep looking forward and focus on our upcoming pitch to lauren. Good things are on the verge of happening for us.

Chelsea: I just don’t think we should get our hopes up, not after what I pulled last time I worked for her. I mean, I basically stole from her. And when we pitched lauren our idea, she made it very clear that she’s not willing to just ignore that.

Chloe: She also made it very clear that she was willing to consider giving you another chance. She sees how hard you are trying to get your life back on track, and making a break from adam, putting that toxic relationship behind you — that is a big part of it. It is proof that you are serious about starting fresh, and i think lauren sees that.

Chelsea: It doesn’t mean she’s gonna be willing to trust me again.

Chloe: Stop it. Okay?

Chelsea: [ Sighs ]

Chloe: I believe in you. I believe in us, and now you need to start doing the same. You have to have high hopes and start dreaming big because no one out there is going to hand us anything. We need to go out there, and we need to get things for ourselves.

Mariah: Hmm. Okay. That’s it. I give up. I give up. I don’t know where it is, so just please tell me where it is.

Tessa: Your valentine’s day gift can’t fit into a box with a bow. It’s far too big for that.

Mariah: Okay.

Tessa: You know how much i love you. This song — it’s written specifically for you, inspired by you.

[ Soft music plays ]

We tried our best

time and again

[ Knock on door ]

Mariah: Oh, wow. That is lousy timing. No, no, no, please, please.

[ Music stops ] Don’t stop. Don’t stop. Whoever it is, they’ll go away if we just ignore it, so please keep singing.

Tessa: No, no, we can’t do that. What if it’s your mom?

Mariah: If it’s my mom? My mom would know better than to interrupt us on valentine’s day. Who does that?!

Tessa: [ Laughs ] Look, we started our celebration a little early. I promise I will start right where I left off.

[ Knock on door ]

Mariah: And I promise whoever this is, is going to go away immediately.

Tessa: [ Laughs ]

Mariah: Immediately!

Noah: Surprise!

Mariah: [ Chuckles ] Goal!

Mariah: Noah. Uh, come in. Come in. Yeah. This is — this is a surprise.

Noah: Sorry. I hope I’m not interrupting anything. It’s just, uh, I wanted to bring this belated house-warming gift. I guess now it’s more of a house-warming/engagement/ soon-to-be-parents gift.

Mariah: Uh, well, you mean not-so-soon-to-be parents. With everything we’ve learned from the adoption process, it’s going to be very long, very challenging.

Tessa: Yeah. But we really appreciate the sentiment.

Mariah: Yeah, this is incredibly thoughtful.

Noah: Okay, it looks like i definitely am interrupting something. Sorry. I, uh — I wanted to try to come by before the celebrating began. Um, I’ll just — I’ll just leave the gifts and go.

Mariah: No, no, no, no, no, no, please, please. It’s really fine. It’s fine.

Tessa: Yeah, yeah, yeah, please stay, I mean, at least until we open the gift.

Moses: Well, that’s the thing. I, um — I really like your daughter, sir. She’s special, you know?

Nick: I agree with you about that.

Moses: And I want to get her something that really shows just how special she is to me.

Nick: I think I know what you’re trying to say — or what not to say.

Moses: I don’t know how this happened. I mean, every day I’ve been thinking about what I want to get faith for valentine’s day. I’ve just been going along with school and my internship, thinking it over, and then, bam, the day is here and I’ve — I’ve got nothing.

Nick: No pressure, huh?

Moses: [ Sighs ]

Faith: Please, mom, you’ve got to help. This is a crisis.

Sharon: Okay, first of all, calm down. This is the good kind of problem to have. Actually, it’s not a problem at all. Finding the perfect gift for a person you care about can be fun.

Faith: You could give rey a mug and he’d do backflips.

Sharon: Again with the mug thing?

Faith: Seriously, mom. He would call you a gift wizard and drink out of it every single day for the rest of his life.

Sharon: [ Sighs ] It is the thought that counts. But I get what you’re saying about wanting it to have a particular kind of meaning.

Moses: I just kept figuring it would come to me when I least expected it, but when it got down to actually going to the store and picking the perfect thing…that just never happened. And now there’s, like, no time left.

Nick: Well, you obviously care about my daughter, and, uh, I think it says a lot that you’re willing to come to her father to get the perfect gift for her. That requires a certain amount of —

Moses: Desperation?

Nick: I was gonna say bravery.

Moses: [ Chuckles ]

Nick: Look, I think if we put our heads together, we can come up with some good ideas.

Moses: [ Sighs ] Thanks, man. I really appreciate that.

Sharon: Try not thinking about getting him the perfect thing, and instead just think about moses, who he is, what makes him happy. What was that? A thought already?

Faith: Yeah. Not exactly a gift. I was just thinking about his smile, the way he has of lighting up the whole world, like all of him is smiling, his whole being.

Sharon: There you go. Go with that. Think about where you were when that happened, what made him smile.

Moses: [ Sighs ] Thanks for talking this thing through with me. I really needed help figuring this thing out.

Nick: Not a problem.

Moses: Hey, you know something? You’re — you’re pretty cool.

Nick: [ Chuckles ] Wow. I mean, that is literally something my daughter has never said to me. Thank you. And I am glad to help.

Faith: Thank you so much, mom. I knew I could count on you to help me. This is gonna be great.

Sally: [ Sighs ] So…are things gonna get weird between us now? Did we make a mistake?

Adam: I have to admit that I have thought about this moment for a long time, too. But what I imagined did not come close to the reality. But a mistake? No, not at all. I don’t see it that way. Do you?

Sally: Are you kidding? I mean, that was…

Adam: Yeah.

Sally: [ Chuckles ] So, what now?

Adam: [ Laughs ] I really — I really don’t know. But you know what? We don’t have to figure it all out right now. We can just play it as it goes.

Sally: Sure. Yeah. Sounds good.

Adam: [ Breathes deeply ] But we should, um, probably get back to work.

Sally: Yeah. We do have…a lot to do.

Adam: Yeah. The truth is, I am starving right now. I am famished. What about you?

“The young and the restless”

will continue. I’ve got moderate to severe plaque psoriasis.

Mariah: Okay. Oh, noah. Oh, my goodness, this is… this is beautiful. Look.

Tessa: I love it.

Mariah: Oh, where should we hang it?

Tessa: Uh… oh, how about over there?

Mariah: Great. Alright, let’s try it. How does this look?

Tessa: That’s perfect.

Mariah: Noah, I… I — I just can’t thank you enough for creating this for us. It’s a masterpiece.

Noah: It was my pleasure. I really hope you guys know how happy I am for you and how much I’m rooting for your marriage and your adoption plans and everything else good coming your way.

Sharon: [ Laughing ]

Rey: You are amazing.

Sharon: I am?

Rey: Yeah. I saw you with faith earlier. Now, I know you’d like to admire your handiwork, but maybe we should give the kids some space, huh? Be a little more discreet?

Sharon: Um, look at that. The espresso machine needs attention.

Rey: Mm-hmm. And I will do that repair for you on the patio.

Sharon: Oh, you don’t have to do that.

Rey: I’m happy to do it. You can thank me later.

Sharon: I will thank you later.

Rey: Mm-hmm.

Moses: Happy valentine’s day, faith.

Faith: Happy valentine’s day. It’s kind of weird, when you think about it, that someone just picked a random day to make it love day and now it’s, like, greeting cards and candy bonanza.

Moses: Yeah, but if you think about it, it’s got to suck for people who don’t have anyone to love. The worst day of the year for them.

Faith: Yeah, that must suck.

[ Both laugh ]

Moses: But today is also a reminder — like, if you really care about someone, you can let them know and show them how much you care, which is pretty cool, right?

Faith: Yeah. I hope you didn’t feel, like, you know, forced to get me something.

Moses: Forced? No. I just wanted to make sure I got just the right thing for you.

Faith: [ Chuckles ] Wow. Did not see that coming.

Moses: Oh, no, that’s not for you. That’s for your dad.

Faith: [ Chuckles ] Okay.

Moses: It’s a joke. I’ll explain later.

Faith: Is this for me?

Moses: Yep.

Faith: [ Laughs ]

Moses: Thanks.

Faith: [ Chuckles ] What?! Concert tickets…

Moses: No way. Tickets to coltrane?

Faith: …To coltrane?

Moses: What? Wow. No way.

Faith: I know how much you love his music and that listening to his music was something that you shared with your dad.

Moses: Yeah. I remember the first time i played him for you.

Faith: You made me close my eyes so I could feel him with my whole body and really see the music. It was like magic.

Moses: Yeah. It felt that way, too, when my dad first played his album for me. And then it felt like I was listening to it all over again when I showed him to you. Feeling it through your heart, hearing it through your ears. Yeah. You nailed it — like magic.

Chloe: I love the direction you’re going with that. I feel like that could be the showpiece for the whole line.

Chelsea: Lauren did seem to like the idea of an exclusive new collection just for fenmore’S.

Chloe: Well, I talked with the accountant, and he’s putting together all the financials for her.

Chelsea: Great. What do you think?

Chloe: It’s amazing. You really have not lost your touch. I think lauren’s gonna love that.

Chelsea: Yeah. I plan to make metallic buttons a recurring theme in the new line.

Chloe: I love that idea. I feel like this is all coming together.

Sally: [ Sighs ] Oh, great. Just what we need.

Adam: Um…would you feel more comfortable going somewhere else?

Sally: Would you?

Adam: No.

Sally: Okay then. Let’s stay. I mean, I know this is all uncharted territory and there’s still a lot that we need to figure out, but this is definitely not the place and it’s definitely not the time.

Adam: Well, we don’t need to figure it all out right now. We agreed that we would play it by ear.

Sally: Yeah, and I am perfectly fine with that. I mean, after all, this is just a business lunch. It’s a perfectly normal thing for ceos and coos to do.

Adam: Hello, ladies.

Chelsea: Well, look who it is. The two of you are spending a lot of time together lately.

Adam: Well, that’s ’cause sally is my new coo.

Chelsea: Seriously? That’s the job you gave her?

Adam: Yes, she’s going to be amazing in the role.

Sally: It’s nice working with someone who recognizes and appreciates my skills.

Chelsea: Mm, I’ll bet he does.

Chloe: Congratulations, sally.

Sally: Thank you.

Adam: Yeah. She’s gonna have a real trial by fire with everything going on with newman media, a lot of details involved, as you can both imagine.

Chelsea: You’re doing on-the-job training? You’ve got your hands full.

Adam: Not so much. Uh, sally’s already shown she’s more than capable of holding her own.

Sally: I mean, we can’t spend all the time in the office, as much as I love all the energy and sparks that are flying around there.

Adam: Anyway, what is going on with you two? I hear you met with lauren for a possible collaboration.

Chloe: Yeah. We were just actually working on our final pitch, and it’s going rather well, if I do say so myself.

Sally: Mm, well, good luck with that. As someone, you know, who worked with lauren, I know what a stickler she can be, so make sure you cross all your t’S.

Chelsea: Oh, thanks, but I’ve worked with lauren before, too. We know exactly what she wants and what she needs.

Sally: Well, you know, if you need anyone to have a fresh set of eyes, to take a look at your pitch, or maybe give you some advice on your designs, you know, as someone with recent experience of the fenmore’s business model and strategy, I could… you know what? No. You guys are gonna be great.

Chelsea: I think we’re okay. Yeah, we’ve got a lot of exciting ideas, so we’re good.

Sally: Wow. It’s really wonderful that lauren was willing to give you a second chance. Not everyone’s fortunate enough to have that opportunity.

Chelsea: Well, it’s a good thing that we didn’t tie you up with a contract, considering you had this amazing opportunity just waiting for you around the corner — and with adam. It’s almost like we did you a favor.

Sally: You have no idea.

Tessa: That’s the perfect spot.

Mariah: That’s such a beautiful addition to our home.

Noah: I can’t begin to tell you how glad I am that you actually like it.

Mariah: We do. We really, really do.

Tessa: We’ll treasure it forever.

Mariah: And we get to say that we have our very own noah newman original.

Noah: You do. Enjoy it. Anyways, I should get going. I told dad I’d hang out with him tonight. So please get back to your celebration.

Tessa: Bye, noah. Thank you for stopping by.

Noah: See ya.

Mariah: Hey. Thank you so much for doing that for us. It — it means so much to the both of us.

Noah: See ya.

Nick: Young love. There’s nothing like it.

Sharon: Remember when we were teenagers?

[ Both laugh ]

Nick: I sure do. I even remember the first gift that you gave me.

Sharon: Really? You do?

Nick: Yep. Friendship bracelet. You made it yourself. And you know what? It worked. ‘Cause we’re still friends.

Sharon: Aww.

Nick: And now faith and moses are making some memories of their own. Man, moses came to me earlier in a panic. I guess he didn’t know what to get faith for valentine’s day.

Sharon: I can’t believe this. Faith did the same thing. She came to me in full drama mode. It was the worst thing in the world. She couldn’t think of what to get moses for valentine’s day.

Nick: Seriously? What’d you tell her?

Sharon: I told her to put less focus on the gift and more so on moses and what she likes about him, what makes him smile.

Nick: I pretty much said the same thing to moses. I asked him what he wanted the gift to say. I guess they’d just got done listening to a jazz record together, so…

Sharon: Coltrane? Oh, my god. And they shared a special moment?

Nick: Yeah.

Sharon: Because there was this flyer for a salute to coltrane concert. It was pinned up outside. It seemed perfect.

Nick: [ Chuckles ] We are good. Up top. My asthma felt anything but normal.

Adam: What do you know? Looks like everything turned out well for everyone. I have no doubt that sally’s gonna be an incredible coo for newman media, and I know you and lauren will be great business partners. But, um, if you will excuse us, we have some business to attend to, so we’ll let you get back to yours. Good luck with the, uh, pitch.

Sally: Yeah. Good luck with that.

Chloe: [ Sighs ]

Chelsea: Our presentation is going to blow lauren away. She will be so impressed with us, she’s gonna make that deal in a heartbeat.

Chloe: Damn right she will.

Adam: Hey. You good?

Sally: Are you kidding me? It’s the best valentine’s day ever.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[ Sighs ] Okay. Oh. Alright.

[ Sighs ]

[ Exhales sharply ] Okay.

[ Knock on door ] Oh. Oh. Come in! Good morning. Good morning. Carly corinthos? That’s me. You must be… rebecca diamond, esquire. I’m here to discuss your divorce. Britt! Nina. Hey. Britt. I take it you’ve heard. Uh, that carly and sonny broke up? Yeah, who hasn’t? So tell me, how’d you do it? Hello. Can I help you? We’ve met. I’m one of your freelancers. Smoltz, right? You remembered, yeah. I sent you a bunch of pitches, but I haven’t heard back. Check your e-mail. Huh? Oh, there you are. You didn’t take any of them. Alexis: No.

[ Sighs ] And here’s why. See, we have declared a moratorium on aliens invading the government, on severed heads in carry-ons, and, you know, celebrity sex lives, that sort of thing. Got it, not a problem. I’m here because I have a scoop. Crop circles? Classic noir love triangle involving the mafiosi and high-fashion. Worlds collide as nina reeves invades the marriage of sonny and carly corinthos. Boom. Hey. There something on your mind? The louvre, the eiffel tower, and the arc de triomphe. Willow, we will get to paris, even if I have to smuggle you.

[ Chuckles ] Which you might have to if I still don’t have a passport. Maybe we can get an update. Willow: Mom. Willow. Hey. Um, I would love to stop and chat, but I’m just in a hurry. Wait. You can’t spare a few minutes for your daughter? Wish I could. I’m sorry. I’m just so — I’m busy. Well, we’re all busy, but how hard is it to track down your daughter’s birth certificate? Hi. Look who’s awake.

[ Chuckles ] Hi. Hi. You seem to be doing better. I’m ready to get back to work, tracking peter and finding our granddaughter. Epiphany? No. She says no. I’ll be back. You make sure he stays in this bed.

[ Monitor beeping ] Have you heard anything? Have they found peter yet?

[ Sighs ] Peter’s still on the loose.

[ Both sigh ] And he’s taken a hostage. Please tell me it’s not anyone I know. Looking at her, you’d never know everything she’s been through. First, her psycho father kidnaps her from right under us, and then drops her at a firehouse then gets away with maxie. We just — we have to assume that maxie convinced peter to leave bailey behind and then agreed to go in her place. I’m just glad that felicia and mac have entrusted us with her for the last two nights, but now that mac’s on the mend… we always knew we were just a placeholder until maxie could be with her daughter again. First, they have to find her. What if maxie’s gone for good? We need to find peter so the authorities never do. Understood? Yeah, and I’ll expect a progress report soon, which means I expect some progress.

[ Knock on door ]Yep, coming. Where is she? I’m sorry, dr. Gatlin-holt. I’m rather busy at the moment. I’m gonna ask you one more time — and only one more time — where did your pal peter take maxie?

I promise you, willow, I’m doing everything I can. Well, then, what’s the holdup? Well, it’s like, you know, going to the dmv, but times 1,000 is what it’s like trying to get something out of the hall of records and — and we moved state to state, so… well, maybe this will help. I looked into it myself. Oh, looked into it how? I contacted all the hospitals in clairbourne county, but there was no record of any birth certificate. And I contacted somebody at the state department. State department? Yeah, they’re gonna do a global search, and that will — you know what? I actually have to go to my appointment, and I’m late already. It was good to see you. Wait, mom, if you could just give us the name of the doctor, that…would be great. I can’t believe it’s this hard to track down my birth certificate. Assuming your mom is even looking for it. You don’t believe her? Do you?

[ Beeps ] You’re recording this? It helps prevent misunderstandings. It also allows me to keep thorough track of my client’s wish list. Wish list? Houses, jewelry, other valuables, your portion of the portfolio, other assets, some of which may be offshore. Oh, and, of course, the children. Ms. Diamond, I thought I made myself perfectly clear on the phone. I invited you here just to go over my options. Is that your polite way of saying you’re not ready to divorce your husband? Britt: Last night, I was at the savoy, and carly shows up dressed to kill with her bestie felix on her arm and no ring on her left hand. She already took off her ring? Point being, she’s trying really hard to get over sonny. Well, I don’t — okay, listen, that’s not why I came looking for you. No? Then I have to get back to work. You probably — listen to me. You probably already know that maxie’s baby was found, but maxie is still missing, and the police think that peter took her hostage. You know peter. Do you have any idea where maxie and peter could be? I have it on excellent authority that the don of the eastern seaboard flew the missus to martinique, where he played musical beds with the editor in chief of crimson. Mm. Well, “a,” you got your facts wrong, “b,” we would never be able to do a story like that because, “c,” we would get our butts sued. So I’m afraid I’m gonna have to pass on that little gem, too. Sorry. Fine. I’ll just sell the story somewhere else. Good. Good. I hope they pay you a lot of money. Well, he didn’t seem happy. Well, you know, changing the perception of the invader is not as easy as it looks. Yeah, sometimes the past can be impossible to shake. I guess we’re not talking about

the invader anymore, are we? After everything maxie did to keep this baby safe, she still had to let her go. For the life of me, I just — I don’t know how she did it. It’s because maxie loves her little girl that much. We have to love her enough to do the same.

[ Doorbell rings ] Maybe it’s news about maxie. Here you go. Hey. Okay. Oh, dad? Olivia? Is everything okay? Yes, yes, we just came by to say hello to our soon-to-be former granddaughter. Of course. Come on in. There she is.

[ Door closes ] Hi. I know. Hi. There you go. Feels like more of a goodbye to me, too. Yes, you are. What on earth what makes you think I know where peter august is? You played me to get information, you found out where maxie’s baby was, and you fed that information to peter. Are you accusing me of endangering a child? What’d you get in return? What’s the price for an innocent human life?

[ Chuckles ] Why, you do have a melodramatic way of asking a question, doctor, but you don’t have a shred of proof. I don’t need proof. I’m not the police. Maxie’s gone. Peter has her. You tell me where she is. Or — or what? Remember, doctor, you took an oath to do no harm. I did. I took that vow. The problem is… …you’re not my patient. Dr. Obrecht: I would put the syringe away if I were you, herr doctor. Really, why would I do that? Because you are displeasing mein guter freund, herr glock.

this manicured weasel knows where maxie is. “Manicured weasel”? That’s right. What are we doing here? Go ahead. You — you brought a gun. Go ahead. Shoot him. Well, it wouldn’t be the first time. You shoot him. I’ll patch him up. How about that? Why do I need you when I can do both backwards and in heels? Now, put the syringe away, herr doctor, or I’ll shoot you and leave you to bleed out. Oh, why don’t you do it anyway? Good thinking, herr doctor. Ah, my dear liesl, I knew I could always count on you. I don’t know why you give this guy a pass. You don’t care about maxie? If it weren’t for you, maxie and her daughter would be safe and sound. Haven’t you done enough, or do you want to make things worse? If so, by all means, stay. I believe you know the way out, doctor. I will reunite maxie with her child. And you and peter are gonna share a cell. Do you think his bedside manner is any better than that?

[ Sighs ] I don’t know. I… I wasn’t listening. Oh, my dearest liesl. You came to my rescue. How can I ever repay you? Peter has maxie? I need to get out of here. No. Stop that. Felicia, I have to find her. No, no, you have to stay in your bed. Please lie back. Leave that bed too soon, and you risk a setback — maybe a fatal one. Then the bad guys win. Is that what you want? What I want is to get my daughter back. And how are you gonna do that by staggering around and bleeding all over the place?! You lie there, let your body heal, and I’ll let you know when you can go. Got it?! Got it. Thanks, epiphany. I’ll take it from here. Good luck.

[ Monitor beeping ] I hate that I’m stuck in here! Well, maybe some good news will help. Oh, please. Lay it on me.

[ Sighs ] Our granddaughter louise is alive and well.

[ Chuckles ] Can you come to your — to your grandma olivia? Or, your — sorry, your aunt olivia and your uncle ned? Oh, my sweet. Oh. Hey, how are you doing with all this? It’s hard, but it — it really is for the best. Now chase and I, we could go back to living our lives. It’s not like we set out to be parents. I mean, can you imagine the two of us at the pta? Olivia: Yeah. I can imagine it real easily, actually. I can, too. Chase. Yes, sir? I’ve told brook lynn how proud I am that she took responsibility for this beautiful little girl, but there’s something else that still needs to be said. I had you wrong. Dead wrong. I just ran into willow and michael, and she can’t understand why I can’t produce her birth certificate for her. Here’s a really crazy thought. Why don’t you tell the truth? What, that I forged it? No, that you — you were lost and you moved into this community and the community didn’t trust the government and so on? I’m sure that willow will understand that. Yeah, maybe, but it — it still doesn’t give her what she needs, which is proof of birth so she can get a passport.

[ Sighs ] Well, speaking of which, I did speak to my colleague friend, diane, and she confirmed what I already suspected. There really is no avenue that will allow you to substitute a fake for willow’s authentic birth certificate. Well, no legal avenue you mean? Like you said, how hard is it to find a birth certificate? Well, here’s hoping your contact at the state department will be able to track it down. I hope so, too, but it doesn’t change the fact that your mom has been avoiding you. I mean, what’s the mystery? What is she so afraid of? My marriage is over, and I am ready to move on. What I don’t want is to go to war. I’m not looking for a wish list or petty revenge. I want this over quickly and as painlessly as possible. You want to expedite this? Then you need to tell me everything — unsanitized, unvarnished, unabridged. Every gory detail.

[ Sighs ]

Peter and i barely know each other. I mean, I wish I had known that he was an unstable psychopath. I would’ve warned maxie. But then we wouldn’t have bailey. Or rather, louise, would we? My heart just breaks for maxie. Just when she thought she could reclaim her daughter. But, britt, what I can’t figure out is how did peter find out that bailey wasn’t brook lynn’s baby, that she was really his and maxie’s daughter? Who knew what maxie and brook lynn were up to? I knew pretty early on, but I would rather die than tell peter that information. I mean, I almost did. Well, someone else wasn’t so discreet. Someone who had something to gain — like victor cassadine. I don’t know about that. But if — if you’re right and victor told peter, then who told victor? Speak of the devil. Victor, I remember your affections fondly, but alas, I am spoken for. Well, I have no doubt mr. Baldwin offers you an amusing distraction, but then so does an accordion, if you’re in the mood. You should know by now you will not score points with me by disparaging

mein scott. Then tell me, dear liesl, how do I score points with you? By stripping down… yes? …And revealing… and? …Your humanity. Oh, is that what we’re calling it these days? Deny it if you want. Beneath the glib yet acerbic banter and your world-weary savoir faire, you are devoted to your own flesh and blood. Almost to a fault. Then you must know how much maxie’s disappearance pains everyone who considers her family. You know how much I hate seeing you in pain. Is there something I can do? There is. If I ever meant anything to you, victor, you’ll help me find maxie. I know what you’re doing. Is it working? What do you think? My heart is pounding. Feel it. Mm. Like an allegro timpani solo at the berlin philharmonic. You know how much I love philharmonic percussion. Then you’ll help me? I depends, my dove… …on what’s in it for me. Sir, if I am ever lucky enough to have a daughter of my own, I hope I can stand by her the way that you stood by brook lynn. He likes you. He likes bailey. I was just part of the package. Okay, my turn again. Okay, here you go. Here. Aww. Okay. Alright. Bailey — or louise — no matter where you go in life, no matter where you call home, you will always, always be a part of our family. You really are a miracle. You know that? Born in the woods, rescued at a firehouse, and you managed to bring out the best in every person around you. And even if we couldn’t see it at first, you showed us what was always there all along. That might be the biggest miracle of all.

[ Chuckles ] I just keep thinking there’s a way around this or past this — there is. You admit that you made a mistake, you let diane negotiate on your behalf to keep you from being incriminated, and then you and willow generate a legal document that will certify her birth. Right. Unless, of course, you don’t

want her birth certified for some reason. Alexis, thank you so much. I know you’re trying to help, but I just — I can’t do this. You know who you sound like? You sound like me when you were trying to help me not drink, and I resisted you. So w-why won’t you let me return the favor? My mother has constantly put her trust in the wrong people. After shiloh and cyrus renault, how could I forget? It taught her to distrust everyone, including the government. You, on the other hand, have contacts in the state department and the sec. You contact district attorneys in other states directly. Not everyone can do that. Okay, yes, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect transparency when it comes to something so straightforward as a birth certificate. Straightforward to you, but you’ve always had a stable, loving family — two stable, loving families that you know you can count on. The loving, maybe, but stable? I don’t know about that. Well, not anymore, anyway.

[ Sighs ] So, at sonny’s insistence, I show up at the haunted star for a romantic evening, and instead of being in the stateroom waiting for me, he was in bed with nina reeves.

[ Beeps ] You have just said more than enough to take sonny to the cleaners. Which is not my objective. I know. I get it. You don’t want his money. Now, with regard to building a case, I do wish you had consulted me before moving out. However, finding him in the sack with a woman who kept his existence a secret more than makes up for it. Now, you’ve just gotten a lot off your chest here. Maybe you want to press erase and it all ends now, which is certainly an option. Or we just leave it here in case you need to use it. Sonny’s a fighter. If I use what’s on that recorder — he’ll hurt you? Physically? No. But if I put him on the defensive, sonny’s gonna make this divorce very ugly, which, as I said over and over again, is the last thing I want. Let him do his worst. You have a secret weapon. What’s that? Sonny himself.

Let’s be honest. Your husband has a reputation. I know that. But there are also children involved, children who love him very much. And that is the beautiful part. We do not have to make a single negative allegation because any judge sitting on that bench knows the name sonny corinthos and will be predisposed to rule in your favor. You mean they couldn’t get him for an alleged crime, so they want to use me to punish him. Well, they got al capone on tax evasion, right? So you add on some lying, some infidelity, and other things that a great P.I. Can dig up, and I’m pretty certain I can get you sole custody of your minor child. I believe you said her name is donna. How’s that sound? Growing up, my life was just so messed up and bizarre that when I got to know your family, I kind of idealized them, maybe to the point of overlooking my own mother. I don’t always give her the credit she deserves for turning her life around. Yeah, even I have to admit she’s — she’s doing her best. And she’s been respecting our boundaries, not coming around all the time, not arranging surprise visits in public places. So I guess you’re saying we should cut her some slack.

Some slack. What are the odds that, out of all of wiley’s grandmothers, at this point,

my mom might be the most drama-free? Thank you for trying, alexis, but I — what? You ask me to help you and — and you won’t accept my help and I don’t know why. So why? Are you ashamed? Are you ashamed of your past? Because I stabbed a cop in the chest with a syringe on a vodka-fueled rage, and the only excuse I had was, “I was aiming for someone else.” Well, what I went to prison for is a hell of a lot worse. I’m sure kristina would agree. That’s a good point. Forging a birth certificate is not nearly as bad as what you actually went to prison for.

[ Sighs ] Listen, harmony, I found a support system in my daughters, and I think you’re underestimating yours. From everything I know about willow, she is open-minded, she’s kind, she’s compassionate, and if you would just tell her the truth, I’m sure she would understand. But she won’T. Harmony, whatever it is that you’re running away from, it will catch up to you. And then what? This was taken just after anna and chase found her at the firehouse. As you can see, louise is happy and healthy. Thank god.

[ Chuckles ] And brook lynn and chase have been looking after her the whole time? Yeah. Yeah, and they’re bringing her here today. And that’ll give you a chance to see for yourself that our granddaughter inherited maxie’s survival gene. And then we get to take her home? We do. Our newest granddaughter under our roof with her brother and sister, and we get to spoil her rotten. Well, that’s a tall order. She’s been living with the quartermaines all this time. Yeah, we can bring her back down to earth. Yeah, that’s more like it. We’ll give her everything she needs. Aye, aye, commissioner. Ah, that’s interim commissioner to you, lady. Ah, you’re starting to get your old, grumpy self back, I see. I won’t be myself until peter’s been caught and maxie has her daughter back in her arms again. Soon. Very, very soon. Dr. Westbourne is correct. It is my fault that victor figured out that maxie and brook lynn have been hiding louise in plain sight. Hey, wh-what? I mean, how — I can’t believe that you would give that information to victor deliberately. I didn’T. All I did was draw him a great, big map with an “x” on it, and then he figured out the rest on his own. Okay, so — and then victor gave that information to peter. And peter used the baby to lure maxie to him. Will the two of you please just stop? Stop kicking me in the teeth. Believe me, I’ve done it enough to myself over the last couple of days. Well, I’m probably not in the best position to judge because I could’ve told everyone that peter was alive and well when he showed up in nixon falls, but I kept my mouth shut. Well, not exactly. You did sic my mother on him. Well, that didn’t work. It didn’t work yet. My mother is nothing if she’s not persistent. She doesn’t relent. She adjusts and improvises. But you already know that, don’t you, dr. Gatlin-holt? You are incorrigible. But alas, my affections are off the table, for I am a one-man woman. Hm, how convenient. I’m only one man. Will you help me, victor, for old times’ sake? I need more. Fine. If you help me, it will enrage peter, and we can both revel in the schadenfreude of it all. Now you’re talking. I hate to see you suffer because of maxie, but I wouldn’t mind seeing peter suffer because of you.

[ Sighs ] I won’t be able to rest until maxie’s home again, reunited with her beautiful little kleine. The thing is, I have a long memory. I haven’t forgotten all the times you hurt me. Any more than I’ve forgotten all the times you’ve kidnapped, tormented, and nearly killed me and the people I care about while aiding and abetting my enemies. You make a fair point. Please, victor, for whatever good there was between us. I can’t promise, but I’ll do what I can. I knew I could count on you.

Let’s take a picture of the whole family, ’cause, damn it, that’s what we are. I’ll take it. Oh, no, slick… perfect. …You’re not getting out of things that easy. Get over here. I’m not really family. Well… you lived at monica’s house. You got your heart broken there. And tried to get one quartermaine to double-cross another. Trust me, you are part of the family, like it or not. Okay, let me get this. Ned: Alright, here we go. Okay. One second. Everybody say, “we love you, bailey.” All: We love you, bailey!

[ Camera shutter clicks ] Now I want to get one of the two of you with just bailey.

[ Camera shutter clicking ] Olivia: Okay, now I want to get a picture of the two you.

[ Clicking continues ] I’m the worst type of hypocrite. If you really believe that, you should get out more. I’ve been doling out advice to you about not letting your past define you, and here I am doing exactly that. Yeah, well, we’re all hypocrites. You know, I ask for help, and I really don’t want it. I’d rather just drown my sorrows in a bottle of booze, but, you know, we make unhealthy choices. Let’s stop doing that, huh? How about you help me, I help you, that sort of thing. That’s how friendship works. Ah, well, how am i supposed to know that? Harmony, I know you want the past to be in the past for willow’s sake, but if there’s more to this story than what you’ve told me, then don’t you think it’s better that willow finds out from you rather than from someone else? All yo ur mom did was misplaceyour birth certificate. Nina literally blew up my parents’ marriage. And my dad seems just fine with that. One more reason for us to expedite that passport and hop on a plane for paris, far away from all this insanity and closer to each other.

[ Cellphone ringing ] It is my contact at the state department. We may be one step closer to the eiffel tower. Hello? Sorry to do this, guys, but we’re on the clock. Already? Can’t we just have five more minutes? Unfortunately, mac and felicia are waiting. We just — we know it’s just gonna make it harder. Olivia: I wish I could say you were wrong. But you’re not. Ready? Okay. Hey, look at me. You will always have a home with us. Always.

[ Crying ]

[ Sighs ] Here. Let me get it. Bye, guys.

[ Sighs ] Mac: This is the best medicine ever.

[ Felicia giggles ] I’m sorry to disturb you, but the doctor’s ordered another test. Another test? What, are they looking for a reason to keep me here? Trust me, nobody wants to keep you here longer than necessary. How do you put up with him? Well, on the bright side, he’s definitely feeling better. There’s nothing wrong with me that seeing my granddaughter won’t cure. Oh, they’re probably on their way right now, so as soon as you get back from whatever this test is, I’m sure they’ll — test, test. Can’t we take this test another time? Some — I’m afraid not. Now, let’s get you out of this bed. No arguments. Yes, ma’am. I barely know your mother. Uh, not true. I was there when she gave you hell for clearing the way for peter to find maxie’s baby. Oh, wait, aunt liesl knows? Oh, well, I hope your affairs are in order. Here’s the thing. So — no, no. Don’t waste your time or oxygen on denials, okay? Just hear me out. I strongly advise you not to engage in shenanigans or cahoots with my mother. I am not a shenaniganist, and I’m not one to cahoot. Britt is right. Listen to her. With aunt liesl, there’s always collateral damage.

[ Elevator bell dings ]

Guete morge, britta dear. Nina, my pet. Would either of you mind if I borrowed the good doctor? Sonny and I went through an ugly divorce years ago, and we fought over our sons, michael and morgan. We hurt each other, and we hurt our children. I will never make that mistake again. And that is very noble and speaks volumes about your character. However, I have to ask, if you don’t want to punish sonny, there are plenty of attorneys in this town who can get you out of your marriage with shared custody and an agreement that you on your nicest day could call fair. So I want to know, why turn to me? What you wanted is for me to tell you that what happened between sonny and me in nixon falls could never happen again, but we both know that that would be a lie. If you don’t want sonny’s blood, what do you want?

Mother, why do you want to borrow dr. Gatlin-holt? I thought you were furious with him. Of course I was. But now we understand each other, don’t we, herr doctor? If you’ll excuse us. Mm? Well, we warned him. Uh, speaking of warnings, didn’t anyone ever tell you that carly’s a bad enemy to have? Yeah, it’s been mentioned to me 1 or 853 times. I’m just saying, you did keep her husband hidden for close to a year and then turn around and sleep with him. I’m sorry. I’m a little confused. Whose side are you on? Y-yours. I’m on your side. We’re family. And as family, I have to warn you, because if carly gets a chance, she will burn your life down. Thank you for the heads-up. But this has been a long time coming, britt. And if carly wants a war, I’ll give her a war. I would prefer not to fight with sonny. I’ve been down that road before, and it goes nowhere good. But the woman he cheated on me with? She’s the one I want to fight. I want nina reeves to pay for every lie she told, all the pain she caused, for everything she has stolen from me and my family. Can you give me that, rebecca? Well, we’ve got to start somewhere. Now, shall we talk about my retainer? If you want me to help you, you are going to have to tell me the truth. Now, both diane and I think that there’s more to this story. There’s something that you are not telling us. Is there? Yes, there’s more. Thank you for looking into it. Okay, bye. What did he say? Michael? Um… it doesn’t make any sense. There is no record of a birth certificate being issued to you in any of the 50 states or anywhere else in the world. According to the U.S. Government… I don’t exist? Olivia: Brook lynn and chase and the baby weren’t — weren’t here for very long, but, uh, it was already feeling like a home, and now it’s over. You know, one of the good things about this whole experience was that it brought us closer together as a family. And it taught us that brook lynn is far more selfless than we thought. Yeah, I’m sure no one was more surprised by that than she was. And now we know that, uh… that we will be there for your daughter whenever she needs us. Yeah.

[ Sighs ] Hi. Hello. Hello, there, beautiful girl. Okay, what’s up? I persuaded victor to let me get close enough to plant a tiny chip on his lapel. Should we have a listen? By all means. Victor: Johann, too many people are asking too many questions. We need to find our friend, mr. August, and silence him once and for all.

[ Indistinct conversations ]

[ Sighs ]

[ Tapping ] Long time, stranger.

[ Gasps ] Oh, my gosh!

[ Chuckles ] Ohh! I missed you! That’s because you’re so busy being a boss.

[ Chuckles ] Oh, yes, well, technically i am the boss. Mm-hmm. But what about you? Lucas told me you have so much going on yourself — singing in the choir… mm-hmm. …Volunteering

and mentoring? Mm-hmm. It’s amazing. So, are you here for dinner? Oh, I’ve eaten. My sister and I ate earlier. Taylor’s in town? Yeah, but she’s exhausted. She already went to her room. Ah. I understand. I’m about to go up to my room any minute. You’re staying here at the hotel?

[ Sighs lightly ] So you haven’t heard all the gossip. We have so much to catch up on. Happy valentine’s day, mom. Why, thank you very much. Mom just wished us a happy anniversary. Oh. Thank you so much, jordan. We love and miss you so much. That we do. We can’t wait for you to make it back to port charles. Any idea when that’ll happen? It feels weird being here when maxie’s god-knows-where with my insane brother. It’s alternate realities. It’s a terrible situation, no question, but what can you do about it, britt? Find peter and stop him?

[ Scoffs ] And what? Get killed in the process? Just trust in the professionals and… ah, yes! …Match me shot for shot. Are you still up for takeout later? Uh, okay. Oh, you want to try that new peruvian place? Sounds great. Right. Should we order enough for esme?

[ Sighs ] I suspect esme has other plans. Such as? Breaking the rules. As usual. Surprise, lover! Oh! Never sneak up on a guy in prison, esme. Sorry. Thought you’d be happy to see me. Had to use all my magic to get in here after visiting hours. Uh, well, it’s, uh, it’s good to see you. Um, sorry I’m so jumpy. Uh, being in here has been… an adjustment. Which is why I thought you might like a reminder of me and the comforts of home. Happy valentine’s day to me. Excuse me. Do you mind if I sit here? Not at all. Thanks.

[ Jacket unzips ] Teal shirt. Well, so far, I’m not disappointed at all. Oh, well, neither am I.

[ Door opens, closes ] Ah. I couldn’t wait for you to get home, my love! To see me or the gift I brought you? Oh! You brought me a gift? This day just keeps getting better and better. You know, not that I’m complaining, but what has gotten into you? Carly and sonny’s marriage is in the toilet. Happy valentine’s day! Any fantasies you have about pjs and fluffy slippers, forget about it. I want to hear all the tea, so I’m taking you out on the town. Oh [Chuckles] I would love to, but I am exhausted. It’s been a long day. And I really need to do some soul-searching.

[ Sighs ] Uh-huh. Go on up to your room. Put on something sparkly, short, and skin-tight — or all the above — and then meet me here in 15. Save the soul-searching for church. Tonight, we’re going to the savoy.

[ Sighs ] Is phyllis here? Uh, no, you just missed her. Oh, um, okay. How is she? I-I came to check in on her since it’s the first valentine’s day — without lenny. Yeah, I had the same idea. Yeah. But, actually, she’s doing really good. Well, lenny would have gotten a kick out of all this. Yeah. See, this is like a great tribute, right? Yeah, it is.

[ Sighs ] How are you? Um, I-I’ve been better. Anything I can do? I think you’ve done enough. Yeah. Um… I should go. Is that what you want, sonny?

what’s esme done now? Painting her nails while sitting on the couch. I specifically asked her not to do that. Ugh! You know, I — I don’t know if it’s a lack of etiquette or it’s just poor judgment, but there is a blatant disregard for the rules! I mean, really, it’s like — it’s like her sense of entitlement just knows no bounds.

[ Sighs ] You’re not wrong. And don’t think I’m defending her. I’m not. But she is a teenage girl navigating unusual circumstances.

[ Scoffs ] She’s a teenage girl who’s working my nerves.

[ Laughs ] Really. Have you — have you seen the guest bathroom? Yes. But I also think her bad habits are exacerbated by spencer leaving. I think she feels abandoned. And I guess she’s living with people who she has no real connection to. I get it. I know you do. Am I a bad person if I still think she’s kind of a little brat? No.

[ Both laugh ] Even just a little bit. I know you’re right. I do. It’s just maddening. I know. I know. Tell you what. I’ll talk to her. That way, I’ll be the heavy. There could be a reward for you in that. Reward? Oh. Mm-hmm. Should we put off dinner for a while? You’re gonna have to wait. Good things come to those who wait. Very good things. Just a little reminder of what you have to look forward to. You like it? “Like” is an understatement. Since, um, spring ridge doesn’t do conjugal visits, I figured this was the next best thing. I’ll have to guard this photo with my life, protect your honor. And if anyone tries to take it, just let samuel know. Your uncle victor was right — he’s a doll. Did you get my gift? The flowers were gorgeous. Where’d you find french peonies this time of year? It took some forethought and uncle victor’s connections, but I couldn’t let my girl think I didn’t care. I was wondering if you might be free to stop by my house tonight. Uh, now? If you don’t mind. It’s kind of important. I’ll text you my address. So I’ll see you later? Um, yes, I’ll be there.

Great.

Thank you so much. I’ll let my doorman know you’re on your way. You just made my night. I love you. What is it? Something good? She may be coming home sooner than planned. Oh, my god! T.J., That’s amazing! You must be so relieved. Absolutely. I’ve been monitoring her progress. I-I knew she was recovering well, but it is a huge win if she can come home early. I’ve got my freedom back, and I…am embracing it. Well, that’s great news.

[ Sniffs ] Whoa! Wow! Ugh.

[ Chuckles ] So does this mean you’re not terrified of aunty dearest? Oh. Please. I’m not worried about her. Especially while she’s out of town. But, I mean, what about her minions? She might have eyes here. No, no, no, no, no. No dice, dr. Downer. If eyes are here, they’ve already seen us together, so let’s make the risk worth it. Down the hatch. We’re doing this.

[ Feigns sobbing ]

[ Glasses clink ]

[ Coughs ]

[ Groans ] It’s nice to finally meet you. Uh, finally? I can see now I had no reason to be nervous. Well, going out solo on valentine’s day is nerve-racking, but this place is pretty non-threatening. I suppose so. I had only been here for a few minutes, and I started to wonder if you would show. As in, where have I been your whole life? As in, where were you five minutes past the hour? I didn’t see anyone in a teal shirt, and I thought maybe I’d been stood up. You’re looking for a guy in a teal shirt. Well, I figured shining armor might be a bit blingy.

[ Chuckles ] But, honestly, I’m glad we decided to meet up in person. Look, I — I-I mean, I admit, I was wary of that dating app, too. I thought it was wacky to try and connect with someone without exchanging pictures. But meeting you has made me a believer, tanner. I’m sorry. I’m not tanner. Terry? I think our table’s ready. Nina, I — I don’t — I’m not gonna get in the way of you wanting to come to charlie’S. So I’m just gonna go ahead — um, that’s — I’m s-sorry. That’s not the question that I asked you. Sonny, I — what are you doing? I just want to know, is — what are you do– is it causing you more pain to run into me? Is it complicating you trying to work things out with carly? There’s nothing to work out with carly. Well…

[Stammers] I probably think that she’s upset, right? And she’s hurt, understandably. You just give her more time. Time. Everybody wants me to give carly time. But it didn’t seem like she needed time when, you know, she decided that she wanted the — the — you know, our marriage to be over when she saw us in the — you know what I mean. No, I don’t know what you mean. What are you talking about? Carly’s divorcing me.

What makes you think that carly considering divorce?

[ Sighs ] She’s meeting with a divorce lawyer. What are you thinking? Sonny, it doesn’t matter what I think. Yeah, it does. No, it doesn’T. Yeah, it does. This is about you and carly. You got something to say, say it, nina. No, my point of view is immaterial. Why? Because I can’t be objective. We both know I have a vested interest. Wow! That was fast! Is spencer okay? Did something happen? He’s fine. He’s absolutely fine, sweetheart. I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to worry you. It’s just that… he asked me to mail this to you a few days ago, and I just haven’t had the chance. So…

[ Exhales sharply ] I brought you some more of that italian face cream you like and your favorite sweater. And samuel said it’s okay if you have this mini-speaker, as long as it’s not too loud. Uh, I don’t suppose that you had the chance to run back by the cabin and grab my headphones? No, I haven’t been back to the cabin. I haven’t even thought about it. Too busy being consumed with my boyfriend being in a prison facility. Don’t think that I don’t, uh, appreciate everything that you’ve done for me and everything that you continue to do. I’ve always been there for you, spence, and I always will be. You know that. Unlike your fair-weather friends. Have you seen them? Have they asked about me? No and no. Does it matter? Think about it, nikolas — how will the court view sonny as custodial parent if his marriage falls apart because of his own infidelity? This could be our chance to bring avery home here! Huh. Yeah, I hope you’re right. But? No “buts.” I just [Sighs] Get the feeling that your euphoria over the corinthos’ marital woes isn’t entirely about avery and maybe you’re slightly happy that it’s happened to carly? Maybe even more than slightly?

[ Crunches ] Are you accusing me of taking pleasure in someone else’s unhappiness? Maybe once upon a time, I wished carly ill, but lately we’ve been in a much better place. You and carly? Come on, ava. It’s me you’re talking to. Oh, alright.

[ Chuckles ] But don’t you think there is some serious karmic justice happening here? Do you have any idea the amount of crap I have taken from that woman over the years? It’s probably more than I’ll ever know. -Yeah. Damn straight it is. -Hm. And she and sonny, they have been insufferable — gatekeeping my child like I’m some kind of danger to her, giving me crumbs of time with avery, expecting me to be grateful, maligning our marriage every chance they get! Yeah, yet here we are still together. While their epic love story crumbles to dust. Britt: [Slurring] You’re kidding me!

[Slurring] True fact. Almost ten — ten percent of americans have broken up with someone on valentine’s day.

[ Scoffs ] You know what that means, don’t you? There’s a whole new crop of broken hearts that are just ours for the taking. Whew! We need shots! No! Clean up. Thank you. Thank you. Down the hatch!

[ Chuckles ] Okay! Wow, I guess there is something to going out tonight. Ah. You’re welcome.

[ Laughs ] Uh, I spoke too soon. I know. I’m not a fan of brad, either. But, uh, I won’t be chased out of here tonight. Neither will I. But I can’t say there won’t be trouble.

It’s perfect. Yeah? Mm-hmm. You always know what I need. Aww! [ Laughs ] Your gift is waiting for you at the honeymoon suite at the metro court. Oh! Tj! You didn’t! Happy valen-versary. Wanna dance? I could be talked into it.

[ Chuckles ] Ha!

[ Gasps ] Ooh. Wait.

[ Groans ] And here I thought I’d be safe. Aunt selina? Worse. Carly. Pfft. Don’t sweat it. I’m not. Besides, I haven’t had my dance yet. Wow. Brad and britt together again. -Some things never change. -Hm. The scenery’s changed. This is the savoy, not the metro court. And it’s — whoopsie! And it’s nice hanging out with my bestie. Even though I’m aware some people would rather he disappear back to pentonville. Britt — some might say brad got off easy, given what he did to carly’s family. I regret a lot of the things I’ve done. Felix, may I have a word with you? And then there were two.

[ Laughs ] Ironic, isn’t it? Hmm. What is? Us! Instead of being with the men we love tonight, we wind up with each other. Yeah. Happy valentine’s day to us. Sonny, you know how I feel about you. You do. Don’t you? Mr. Corinthos. It’s good to see you. We haven’t had much of a chance to talk since you got back. -Chet. -How are you? Yeah. How are you? Look. Listen. You’re doing a great job at the gym. How are you? I can’t complain. Thinking about calling tonight a wrap, though. You know. Single-guy problems. Well, I guess you don’T. Count yourself lucky. Oh. Nina — nina. This is chet. Chet, nina. He runs volonino’s gym for me. Yeah. It’s — you’re amy’s brother, right? It’s nice to finally meet you. Likewise. Um… so, okay. Well, I will let you get on with your evening. Alright, chet. Can I get another drink? -No. I don’t think it’s okay. -That’s — listen. If carly is meeting with divorce attorneys, I think it’s a bad idea for us to be seen out in public. The damage was done a long time ago, nina. Well, let’s not add fuel to the fire. I don’t — this is just…so unreal. When I got back, everything was great. Now how do — how did we get to this? We all played our roles, and I am so, so sorry for the part I played. I r-regret what went down, too. All of it? Because I can tell you this. There’s no part of me that regrets us sleeping together. Do you? Tanner: That’s why I appreciate that the app prioritizes the cerebral over the visual. Daters can scratch below the surface without having to worry about shallow concerns like the way someone looks or, uh, you know, whether they have a car or a career. But you do… h-have those things, right? No, I-I understand why a modern woman like yourself might feel pressured to join the capitalistic grind. Do you, now? Well, it might interest you to know that I don’t view the field of medicine through a capitalistic lens. No, it’s just that I’ve — I’ve chosen to vibrate at a higher frequency. I reject the expectations of society. I examine myself. I do the work. Avoid shirts with collars. I understand. But that all sounds like your excuse to avoid actual work. Well, if that’s what you heard me say, then you’re not listening. Oh. Please. Enlighten me. Laura: Actually, spencer wanted you to have this before he left for spring ridge. I’m so sorry for the delay. It’s just that so much has been happening lately. No, it’s fine. How’s he doing?

[ Sighs ] It’s still early days. I’m sure he appreciated his visit with you at ava’s gallery, though, before he had to report in. I… I appreciated it, too. Of course it matters if my friends are suddenly ghosting me. Your uncle victor reminded me that you can’t please all people all the time, which is exactly what I’ve been trying to do with your friends, and it’s gotten me nowhere. I mean, at least we still have each other, right? Isn’t that enough? Maybe coming tonight was a mistake. I’m just gonna go to the loo before I head out. Hey. Esme. What — don’T. Don’T. Thanks, samuel. You’ve been a doll. Hey, I, um — I know it’s late, but is there any way I could, uh, visit with ryan chamberlain before I go? Sorry. I’m afraid not. No worries. I’ll, um, just see him when I intern later this week. That’s not happening, either. Your access has been restricted. By whom? Kevin: By me.

I didn’t expect to see you here after visiting hours. Likewise. But it’s not unusual for me to visit a patient after hours. How did you get in? I, um… pulled a few strings. We’ll address that later. Right now I’d like to know why you’re trying to see my brother, especially when I warned you not to. I’m capable of handling it. I know you think so. Which is why I took measures to prevent you from “handling it.” Hm. This sounds more personal than professional. Are you sure you haven’t lost objectivity when it comes to your brother? What’s going on? I’d like to know that myself. So, esme, why is it so important for you to visit ryan? Ryan chamberlain? Why the hell would you want to see that psychopath? He remembered! Laura: Remembered what?

[ Breathes sharply ] I’m sorry. I…don’t want to pry. No. I-it’s fine. It’s okay. It’s just I’m kind of blown away right now. Really? I once told spencer I was a fan of this work, and he remembered. Wow. Well, that’s spencer, isn’t it? Oh, despite all of his antics, he’s got this other side. I know. A side that’s thoughtful and generous. Mm-hmm. You seem to have gotten to know each other pretty well. Mmm. Can anyone ever truly find happiness with sonny? You know, if you asked me a year ago, I would have said absolutely not. But he’s changed. Hasn’t he? Seems different. Especially with nina. It’s like he’s almost human. Well, finding your true mate will do that. Thank you, sweetheart. I agree. And I feel the same way. I’ve never really been able to be myself with anybody without feeling like I was being judged. And just… it’s so liberating and refreshing to… strip away the façade. You feel free to strip bare with me anytime. No. I’m — I’m — I’m being serious, though. I feel safe with you. Good. I love you. Just as you are. And everything you just said about how I make you feel… is how you make me feel. And they said we wouldn’t last.

[ Chuckles ]

[ Chuckles ] They — they have no idea what we have. Well, we don’t need them to know what we have. As long as we do. It’s you and me. Our love against the world. Hey. You know what? When we renew our vows, I think that’s how it should be. Just you and me. U-unless you really want to have guests. Al l I want, my darling…[ Glass taps lightly ] …Is you. I just want you to know I hate that I hurt lucas and so many others. Brad, this is gonna sound strange coming from me, but… you can’t keep beating yourself up. You have a real opportunity now that you’re out… to do good. Do you have any plans? Not yet. My future’s not entirely up to me. Well, there are worse things than being single on valentine’s day.

[ Gasps ] Like… your brother wreaking havoc on the entire town and abducting your sister-in-law. Yeah, or your husband disappearing for almost a year… ooph. …And then returning only to cheat on you. Or losing your last chance at love! And your best friend.

[ Sighs ] You know…he helped me pass out valentines last year at the hospital? I wish I could have seen that. Yeah. Turns out it was a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence. Okay!

[ Clears throat ] So…we could have a good cry or we could order more shots. I say shots.

[ Laughs ]

[ Fingers snap ] This round’s on me. Okay. N’neka! I regret that my life has come to this… and that my wife wants to end our marriage so quickly. Well, I don’t know. Maybe she’s just weighing her options, sonny, whether she wants to stay or go. That is not carly’s style. What — you — what do you think the odds are that carly hasn’t made up her mind? Wow. I’ve never been called a shill for pharmaceutical companies before! I just happen to ascribe to more eastern philosophies than western medicine. You do remember that I’m an asian doctor, right? A-are you anti-science? Science has its place. Yes, in medicine. And so does mysticism. And, in fact, it is a necessary part of the human spirit and has been so in every ancient civilization.

[ Scoffs ] And I have to say you came across more broad-minded on the app. Sorry to disappoint. Say, can you illuminate me on an adjacent topic? Be happy to. Did mysticism develop the technology behind your hair plugs, or was that science? Oh, that’s — yeah, that’s cute. We’re gonna need another round here, please! Don’t worry. It’s on me. Believing in science is good for something. Oh, yeah. See? There it is. Capitalistic.

[ Scoffs ] Okay. That’s enough. Can’t sit by and watch you do this anymore. Tanner: Who the hell are you?

I just wanted to observe ryan for my class, and dr. Collins won’t allow it. Why would you want to hang around that psycho kook, esme? Mental illness is not a joke. Besides, you don’t seem to care what I want these days. -What? -I mean, I came here tonight to see you, spence. You were my top priority, and something tells me that I am not yours. What did I do? I’m just trying to look out for her. She feels she can take care of herself. Can the same be said of you? -Who am I? -Yeah. Who the hell are you to interrupt our date? The boyfriend. I tried, baby, but I just can’t share you anymore. You know i always come back to you in the end. I’m sorry. This is not a match.

[ Door opens, closes ] Is it something I said? I guess I wasn’t magical enough.

[ Chuckles ]

[ Breathes deeply ] I’m terry. Chet. It’s nice to meet you, terry. Uh, sorry about the inconvenience earlier. Would a drink make up for it? And don’t worry — I can cover it. It’s a start.

[ Exhales sharply ] Has carly ever done something like this before? Carly and I have a lot of water under the bridge. Of cour– I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to — to pry. I know that you guys go way back. I know that. Yeah. It’s just — yeah. [ Sighs ] It’s — it’s ironic ’cause carly was so upset about not knowing your history with me in nixon falls, but that was only a couple months compared to the years and years that you two shared together. I know. I know. But I was just thinking…

[ Scoffs ] …I’m at a much greater disadvantage. Nina. It’s not a competition. Isn’t it? Hoo! How many of these have you had?! They grow on you. Two more, please!

[ Chuckles ] What are they still talking about over there? Oh. As long as brad stays away from me and my family, I could care less. Right. And if he doesn’t cross the street in time when he sees one of you, michael will just call his political friends and invent charges! Seriously? You want to go there? Let’s talk about your family. Peter. Obrecht. Faison.

[ Scoffs ] Not to mention — me. Don’t — don’t stop on my account. I was gonna say nina. She’s no slouch in the cheating, lying department. That’s for sure. Okay, I cannot discuss nina with you. Because you can’t defend her. Well, that truce didn’t last long.

[ Sighs ] No, it didn’T. Okay. [ Sighs ] Aren’t you tired of fighting? Are you? Yes. That’s why we should just keep drinking and forget everything! Are you talking about your parole officer? Who else would be in charge of your future? I just meant the — the consequences of my mistakes will determine my future.

[ Chuckles ] Brad, you were a good lab tech, but if you can’t go back to that, maybe you can find a new passion. You mean do my own thing? Find my purpose? Yeah. That would mean real freedom. Happy valentine’s day, mrs. Cassadine. Unless you feel the day doesn’t necessitate a gift. You know me better than that.

[ Chuckles ] You said you felt safe with me. I’m happy you see the good in spencer. Not everyone does. Well, his friends do. And I’m still his friend. Does he need anything? That’s sweet of you to ask. Um, esme brought him a few things today. Oh, good. I just hope it wasn’t some of the same old stuff. I mean, I know spencer likes his clothes and his accessories, but that’s not really what’s important to him. Really? Yeah. He likes music and poetry and art. Something you have in common. Well, he’ll need all that while he’s there… to keep his spirits up. I can see why spencer values his friendship with you so much. I’m very glad that he has you.

trina! Everywhere I go, there you are. Not anymore. I was just leaving. Thank you again, mayor collins. Oh, no, no. Thank you for coming over. I really enjoyed talking with you. Goodbye. Bye-bye.

[ Trina chuckles ]

[ Chuckles ] I think that belongs to you. How’s spencer? Okay. Did he say if he needed anything? Actually, there’s something. Something we both need. Could I help with that? Thanks, but I’ve got this. I’m gonna turn in, though. Early start tomorrow. For your internship at spring ridge?

[ Beep ] No, there is a really important errand I have to run in the morning first. I appreciate your chivalry. It’s rough out there. Phew. No kidding.

[ Laughs ] I was just telling my sister it’s easier being single. Not that it stops her from trying to set me up. I don’t have a sister, but I have well-meaning friends who are constantly trying to push me out of my comfort zone. Hence, the dating app. Oh, you plan on firing that up again soon? Based on tonight, I’m gonna go with…never!

[ Both laugh ] Maybe casual dating just isn’t in the stars for me. Oh, my god. Did that sound mystical?

[ Both laugh ] Uh, well, I hope not, because that would be a real waste. You’re cool. You’re smart. You’re beautiful. Well, you’re gallant and handsome. And teal is definitely your color. Along with shining armor. To never saying never. Never say never. There is, uh, one thing I can tell you about lucas. He really hopes you’ll be able to build a new life and be happy. I hope for that, too. Uh — [ Chuckles ] And judging by that, I guess, uh, anything is possible.

[ Carly and britt laughing ] Wow. Whoo! What are you doing? I’ll pay. I’ll — no. You don’t have to get that. The drinks. It’s okay. It’s — listen. I want to do it. Sonny. Whatever happens, I want the best for you. I wish you nothing but happiness. Happiness… luck… and love. If carly moves forward with this divorce attorney… I’m not having it. It’s over. Done. Boom.

[ Sighs ] No, um… listen. I’m not leaving. You’re drinking. You’re talking like that. Nina. I’m fine. You can go.

[ Sniffles ]

[ Deacon grunting ]

Deacon: Come on! Get–get up!

Brooke: Ridge! Ridge!

[ Ridge grunting ]

Brooke: Ridge! What are you doing? Stop it! Stop it! Deacon, are you all right? It was me, ridge. I was drunk! Deacon didn’t do a thing.

Ridge: He didn’t do a thing? He didn’t do a thing?

Brooke: Ridge, stop it! What are you doing?

Steffy: I honestly didn’t think brooke could surprise me anymore, but she really topped herself. Spending new year’s eve with deacon while my father was out of town, stranded in a snowstorm.

Hope: All right, you’re making it sound like an affair when it wasn’t, and it isn’T. It was one night. There was drinking. Mistakes were made.

Steffy: Oh, please. There is always an excuse for brooke. You know, my father could have been so happy with my mom, but instead he puts up with scandal after scandal with brooke. And now this? Deacon sharpe? I don’t think my father is going to stand for it. I have to believe brooke’s hold over him is coming to an end.

Taylor: Deacon came back that night. He didn’t leave until morning.

Ridge: Brooke wouldn’t do that to me.

Taylor: I don’t expect you to take my word for it. Go ask your wife.

Sheila: You must be psychic.

[ Taylor sighing ]

Taylor: Excuse me.

Sheila: You picked the exact right time to come home.

Taylor: The right time to come home? I’m not sure what that means. But, why are you here, sheila?

Sheila: I just– I just wanted to come over and tell you how excited I was for you. And, in case you didn’t know already, I am team taylor all the way.

Taylor: Happy for me, why?

Sheila: I spoke to deacon. So, I know all about brooke’s latest infidelity, which can only benefit you.&

Hope: I know how you feel, steffy. You barely tolerate my mother because you blame her for ridge leaving your family when in fact, ridge chose my mother. And, I think you underestimate his commitment to her and his ability to forgive her. She messed up.

Steffy: Come on, hope. Stop with the justifications. Your mom reverted to her old ways. She gets bored, I guess and she wants to shake things up by cheating on my dad. How can you defend what brooke did with deacon?

Deacon: Brooke, can you help me up?

[ Deacon grunting ] Okay. All right, thanks.

Ridge: Isn’t it funny? You rush in here and the first thing you do is check on deacon.

Brooke: It’s not what I’m doing, ridge. I’m trying to keep you from tearing each other apart!

Ridge: This guy got drunk with you.

Deacon: I tried to stop her–

Ridge: Shut up! What kind of a man does that? Drink with an alcoholic? Just so you can slither into her bed. And, what kind of a woman defends a man like that? Please, no more. Please.

Allergies don’t have to be

scary.

Sheila: And, poor ridge. When I think about everything that he’s gone through over the years, the blows to his pride delivered by the one person who promised to honor him.

Taylor: Sheila, I don’t feel comfortable standing here and bashing brooke with you–

Sheila: And, you know what? I–I wouldn’t expect you to. You’re a psychiatrist. It’s your job to stay neutral. And, just for the record, I am not bashing brooke. I am–I’m simply saying that the truth. I mean, come on, you know better than anybody how many times brooke cheated on ridge and how deep he dug to try and forgive her. And he did, and he would take her back just to have to do it all over again.

Taylor: Sheila, it’s ridge’s life. He makes his own choices.

Sheila: Yeah. Well, I’ll bet you there are a few that he’s– he’s wishing he hadn’t made as–as we’re speaking here. Ridge should have stayed with you, taylor.

Taylor: Well, thank you. I–I guess.

Sheila: You’re good. That calm demeanor, not giving anything away but I know underneath, you have got to be so excited. Your wishes might finally come true.

Taylor: My wishes? What wish?

Sheila: You’re still in love with ridge, taylor. Anyone can see it. I get it and you have history together. Why wouldn’t you want to reunite your family? And now that brooke did her– I just– I feel really confident that you and ridge are going to find your way back to one another.

Steffy: You’re twisting yourself in knots because you’re trying to justify all the shady things deacon has done because he is your father. But, can you really look me in the eye and say that what deacon and brooke did wasn’t a betrayal of my father, that they didn’t disrespect him? Deacon slept in my father’s bed. And you’re going to stand there and defend your mom for allowing that?

Hope: My mother relapsed after years of sobriety. Her judgment was impaired. She doesn’t even remember half of that night, and she’s been torn up about the entire thing.

Steffy: I understand that she relapsed, but that’s still no excuse for brooke and deacon hooking up.

Hope: Are you really going to stand there and act all high and mighty when you too have made mistakes that you regret?

Steffy: This could have been avoided. My father warned you. He warned brooke to stay away from deacon. But brooke ignored it. And, now this happened.

Hope: My father came to see me on new year’s eve, to be with my family. He was at my mother’s house because of me. So, if you want to blame anyone for what happened that night, then blame me.

Steffy: I’m sorry, but I can’t let brooke off the hook. And I can’t imagine my father will either.

Deacon: I think we’ve established that you’re angry–

Ridge: Sut up! Or I swear we’re going to finish this right now–

Brooke: No! Ridge!

Ridge: Why do you do this? Why? Do you not see this dude for who he is, what he’s done to your life? He’s ruined it almost twice already. You don’t remember what he did to bridget? What he did to you? Your relationship with your daughter? How do you stand there and defend this guy?

Brooke: I don’t want you fighting. It doesn’t do any good.

Deacon: Look, nothing happened. Doesn’t that count for anything?

Ridge: Oh, it counts for everything. That’s why you were drinking by yourself? I forgot.

Brooke: You can’t even comprehend how sorry I am for what happened that night. And, I don’t even know how it all happened, but I have to own it.

Ridge: I don’T.

Brooke: What?

Ridge: I don’t want this. I–I… I can’t take this anymore.

Brooke: Ridge, what are you saying?

Steffy: You’re wrong about your father, hope. Deacon hasn’t changed. He’s a snake, he’s manipulative, he takes advantage. That doesn’t make your mom less guilty. She still opened the door to that train wreck.

Hope: For me. She did that for me.

Steffy: Your mom got drunk and she had deacon spend the night in my father’s bed. Stop trying to defend her. It’s embarrassing.

Hope: You know what? Ultimately, your opinion doesn’t matter. It’s only ridge’s reaction that counts.

Steffy: You think he’ll forgive her?

Hope: I hope he does, yeah.

Steffy: Yeah. I mean, why would this time be any different, right? Your mother will do what she always does: She’ll cry. She’ll beg for forgiveness. She’ll say she’ll never do it again. She wasn’t really thinking. But, she and my father are destiny. But, she will do it again. She will play my father for a fool. It’s not right. My father is a good man and he deserves respect. He won’t get that from brooke, but he will always get that from my mother.

Taylor: I want to be very clear, sheila. I am not a home wrecker.

Sheila: Not like some people.

Taylor: I am not out to break up ridge and brooke’s marriage.

Sheila: That’s the beauty of it, though. You don’t even have to. You can just sit there and let brooke destroy her own marriage. Wait for ridge to come back to your arms. That’s what I’m talking about. Timing. I wish I could just sit at your feet and learn.

Taylor: God, sheila. What are you talking about? I–I–I came back because I–I missed my kids and my grandkids and I–

Sheila: Okay. Well, fine, fine. You can call it whatever you want. Timing, fate, it’s all the same. Fact is this you came back at a very precarious time in ridge’s marriage. Maybe his destiny isn’t with brooke.

Taylor: Ridge and brooke have faced many challenges in their relationship, so.

Sheila: Yeah… but everyone has a limit.

Taylor: Brooke made a mistake.

Sheila: You think?

Taylor: Yep, she made a mistake. She was drinking, she’s an alcoholic. She didn’t–

[ Phone dinging ] She didn’t know what she was doing.

Sheila: Yeah, I’m well aware of that. Now, inevitably, one thing leads to another. All the little pieces falling into place.

Brooke: Ridge, please. You have to know that I wasn’t myself that night. I was weak. I take full responsibility. I’m an alcoholic. I fell off the wagon.

Ridge: You didn’t take full responsibility. You didn’t tell me what happened.

Brooke: That’s because I knew exactly how you would react. Hurt and disappointed and mad at me, going after deacon!

Ridge: Poor deacon. Is he gonna be okay?

Brooke: Deacon is hope’s father and you are my husband. I don’t want either one of you to end up in the hospital or worse. He did nothing wrong.

Ridge: What do you mean he did nothing wrong? What does that mean to you?

Brooke: Look, I know you’re disillusioned with me. I get it. I am disillusioned with myself. And, I don’t know why I had that uncontrollable urge to drink, but I did. And, I don’t think I’ll ever find out. God, I just wish I could take it all back!

Ridge: So do I.

Brooke: But you said that you still love me. You said that we can get through this.

Ridge: I do love you. But you’re with him. And you didn’t tell me. We had to find out from a little boy. What am I supposed to do with that?

Brooke: I just want you to be able to forgive me. Please. I can’t imagine my life without you, ridge. Let’s just– let’s just work through this, okay? We can get past this. We can. Together. After my dvt blood clot…

Steffy: I’m sensing you have some disdain for my father.

Hope: What? No. I love ridge.

Steffy: Really? Well, where was all the love when he warned you about putting your faith in your ex-con of a father?

Hope: Ridge was judging my dad on his past when I was taking him at his word in the present. And, it’s worked out well for us.

Steffy: Awesome. Great for you and deacon. Too bad for my father. His heart’s going to be broken again.

Hope: Steffy, I am sorry that ridge got hurt. I am sorry that my mother fell off the wagon with deacon. And I am sorry that I pushed too hard to make everyone let deacon in.

Steffy: I think you should push harder, pull out all the stops. Go on a real campaign and get your parents back together. Because I think very soon brooke is going to be free. My father’s done with this.

Taylor: It is a bit of a mystery. You know, I– brooke–brooke was really committed to living a sober life. I mean, of course, alcoholics backslide. It happens. But I don’t know. Brooke was doing so well for so long. I just don’t know what happened.

Sheila: Well, like they say, “how the mighty fall”.

Taylor: You know, there– there had to have been a trigger. Something.

Sheila: Could that trigger have been deacon?

Taylor: Yes. Yes, of course. Especially if they drank together. Or not. I don’t know. We’ll probably never know why brooke relapsed.

Sheila: Does it really matter? Because the damage has already been done?

Brooke: I won’t give up on us, ridge. I won’T. And you can’t either.

Ridge: I told you I didn’t want this fool in their lives, coming and going whenever he pleased.

Brooke: Oh, god, nothing happened!

Ridge: Nothing happened? He slept in my bed! That is something–

Deacon: Please, don’t lash–

Ridge: Shut up! Stay out of it!

Brooke: Ridge, please!

Ridge: “Oh, please, ridge”. I’m sorry. Did I yell at your boy? I’m so sorry! Why can’t I ever “please,” I said–didn’t I say to you, “please, please keep this wrecking ball away from us? He’s gonna ruin everything”. You know, I have a breaking point. But you just kept going. Right? Maybe you didn’t hear me. Maybe you just didn’t care.

Brooke: No, of course I care. I was trying to support my daughter.

Ridge: How is– how is making out with this idiot on new year’s eve supporting your daughter? Explain that to me! Why couldn’t you just wait for me? Why am I not enough for you?

Brooke: You are, you are enough for me. You’re the only man that I love, ridge.

Ridge: I know I’m the only man you love unless bill spencer comes around the corner flexing at you. Or this clown comes and tells you he’s always loved you. I love you so much but this hurts and I don’t know what to do.

Brooke: I am so sorry. I never meant to hurt you. I didn’T. I’m so angry with myself, I’m so ashamed. I don’t know what made me drink in the first place. And, I just need you to forgive me, ridge, please. This one time. I can’t live without you.

Ridge: You chose deacon over me.

Brooke: No. No, I didn’t do that, no.

Ridge: I told you he was gonna put a wedge between us. I told you he was going to ruin everything. And, you invited him into our house. Into our bed, logan. Our bed. It’s gone. There’s nothing sacred. I love you so much. But, I’m tired and I can’t– I can’t do this anymore.

Brooke: No. No, don’T. Don’t–don’t go ridge, please. Ridge, I love you. Please don’t walk out! Damn it!

[ Brooke sobbing ] Why? Why?

[ Dramatic music ]

Ridge: Get up.

Deacon: Okay. All right. I deserve that. You get one free one. But you’ll never put your hands on me again.

Ridge: You violated my wife, our home and our bed. It ends today.

Taylor: I know about you and deacon.

Brooke: Yeah? Is that why you’re here? To rub it in my face?

Taylor: No, brooke. I’m concerned on so many levels.

Brooke: Sure you are, taylor. If you really were concerned, you would’ve come to me before running to ridge. You would’ve given me the chance to tell him myself.

Taylor: Is that what you’re telling yourself? Do not make me the bad guy in your story, brooke. You’ve had all this time to tell ridge the truth–

Brooke: And I was going to.

Taylor: And you didn’T.

Brooke: I just was about to, taylor. But guess what? You beat me to it.

[ Hope sighing ]

Brooke: I really thought

I could keep this secret,

but it’s tearing me apart.

I mean, ridge and I pride

ourselves on being honest

with each other,

no matter how painful.

Hope: So, you’re really

going to tell ridge

all of it?

[ Brooke sighing ]

Brooke: Yes.

I mean, what choice do

I have? Drinking with deacon

and the kiss…

spending the night together?

He needs to know, hope.

He deserves to know.

Steffy: Long day?

Hope: Why do you ask?

Steffy: You seem preoccupied.

Hope: I’m working.

Steffy: It’s not, uh, more than that?

Hope: What do you mean, steffy? Would you like it to mean more that?

Steffy: No. I actually feel kind of sorry for you.

Hope: Sorry for me, why?

Steffy: Because of who your mother is.

Hope: Excuse me?

Steffy: Brooke’s dirty, little secret? It’s no longer a secret.

Hope: I have no idea what you’re talking about, steffy.

Steffy: Save it. We all know about brooke and deacon ringing in the new year together.

Hope: Well, that’s hardly news. My dad was invited to spend time with me and liam and the kids.

Steffy: And brooke.

Hope: Well, yeah. Obviously. My mom was there. It’s her house.

Steffy: It’s my father’s house too.

Hope: Okay. I see the point you’re trying to make and yes, ridge actually already knows that deacon was there that night.

Steffy: But brooke failed to mention a few things that happened that night. But it’s all cleared up now. My mom, thomas and I, we know all the details. So does my dad. My mom told him.

Brooke: I’m not proud of myself, taylor.

Taylor: Yeah, I imagine not.

Brooke: I’m not. I’m actually ashamed of what I did with deacon. I don’t like to hurt ridge. I don’t want to let him down, but I’m not going to defend myself to you, of all people. I don’t owe you that.

Taylor: No, I didn’t say you did. You owe it to ridge. You owe ridge a lot of things, actually, brooke. Fidelity being at the top of that list.

Brooke: Yes, of course. And my husband and I will work through that together. We don’t need your input. It was a kiss. It was a moment of weakness that I take full responsibility for.

Taylor: Do you, brooke? Do you really? Or are you just saying that because you got caught.

Ridge: All right. No more lies. What did you do to my wife?

Deacon: I didn’t do anything to her. We kissed once!

Ridge: Did you spike her drink?

Deacon: What?

Ridge: Did you slip her something? Like drugs, alcohol–

Deacon: Whoa, whoa, whoa. What–are you–what do you–

Ridge: What did you do to my wife?

Deacon: Are you kidding me? No! Nothing! If you have copd, ask your doctor about breztri.

Steffy: Your mother was unfaithful to my father.

Hope: Trust me, she regrets the choices she made that night.

Steffy: I’m sure she does, now that she’s gotten caught.

Hope: My mother has been committed to her sobriety. I mean, we still don’t even know what triggered her to throw it all away.

Steffy: Well, she definitely threw away her marriage right along with it.

Hope: Well, I hope not. I hope ridge can find it within himself to forgive her.

Steffy: Mm. I wouldn’t hold your breath, hope. I think my father is fed up with brooke’s behavior. The drinking? He could forgive. But the cheating?

Hope: My mother has been wracked with guilt.

Steffy: She should be.

Hope: You know, you’re not in a place to judge. We both know that you’ve done things that you have regretted.

Steffy: Hope, this keeps happening. Decade after decade. At some point, you need to hold yourself accountable and your mom just doesn’t do that.

Hope: Well, she is now.

Steffy: My father has been really worried about brooke. He thought she was all out of sorts because she relapsed. But it wasn’t just that. She spent the night with deacon while my father was stranded in a snowstorm. Once again, brooke betrayed my father. But, I do think this is it. This will be the last time.

Taylor: I understand alcoholism, brooke. I do. It’s a constant battle. You can never let your guard down.

Brooke: My guard was up. This urge came out of nowhere.

Taylor: Okay, well, your actions speak for themselves. Turning to another man? Brooke, this is a pattern. This is a pattern that has been going on for years and years. Not too long ago, it was bill spencer, another one of ridge’s least favorite people.

Brooke: You know what? This isn’t a therapy session and I’m not one of your patients. I don’t need an analysis.

Taylor: Maybe you do. Maybe you do because I’m right. Do you see the theme here, brooke?

Brooke: Not sure what you’re getting at. I just thank god I don’t have to answer to you.

Taylor: No, you don’T. Just yourself. And ridge.

Brooke: Yes. Yes, of course. I still don’t know what happened on new year’s eve. I’ve been going over it in my head a thousand times. But, what would you care, right? You know, as a mental health professional, you really should have a little bit more empathy.

Taylor: Is that what I should do? That’s what I should do in this situation for you? Yeah, brooke, I’m trying. I really am.

Brooke: Deacon did spend the night and we only shared one kiss and none of that would’ve happened if there wasn’t alcohol involved. I wasn’t in my right mind, taylor. I–I don’t even know what it was that made me take that first sip.

Taylor: I do. It was you. You did it so you could have an excuse to cheat on ridge.

Ridge: You went after brooke. You got my wife drunk.

Deacon: No. She was drinking on her own. I tried to get her to stop.

Ridge: Oh, she just started drinking out of nowhere after all these years? Really?

Deacon: You know, you got a pretty good left hook, forrester. No, hope invited me over for new year’s eve. We had a nice family time. I left, I forgot my phone and I went back.

Ridge: So, because you came back, she threw her sobriety out the window?

Deacon: She was was already drinking. Eventually, I joined in, I admit it, all right? And I am sorry, but I didn’t spike her cocktail and I sure as hell didn’t drug her–

Ridge: Then what happened, deacon? What happened? How did you end up kissing my wife? Go with simparica trio it’s triple protection made simple!

Hope: I can see where this is heading, steffy.

Steffy: I can too, and it doesn’t look good for your mom.

Hope: See? Your mom this. My mom that. Look, I– I don’t want this to turn into another logan versus forrester debate.

Steffy: Of course you don’t because the logans always win.

Hope: That is not true.

Steffy: But it is though. Brooke has my father. Or so she thinks.

Hope: You’re really hoping this breaks them up, aren’t you?

Steffy: I just want my father to be happy. To be where he’s truly appreciated.

Hope: With taylor.

Steffy: I’m tired of watching my father struggle with a woman who always has one foot out the door.

Hope: My mom? Ridge is the love of her life. She had one bad night fueled by alcohol.

Steffy: It’s not just that. It’s more than deacon. It was the back and forth with my grandfather. With thorne. All the mistakes she made with bill. Like the list of affairs are like a mile long. We can’t pretend that’s not the case.

Hope: Like taylor has never hurt ridge? Because i can think of a few instances, but the point is, steffy, that we should not be keeping score or doing this tit for tat. We should just let them handle it themselves.

Steffy: I think my father will see that there’s only one way to handle this. By ending it today when he finally kicks her out once and for all.

Brooke: You are wrong about that, taylor.

Taylor: I–I don’t think I am, brooke.

Brooke: Wow. I am living this. This is my life. This is my marriage and nothing that occurred that night had anything to do with you whatsoever. Yet, you feel like you have the right come in here and lecture me.

Taylor: Yeah, see… ridge and I have children together and we have grandchildren. I will always care about his well being, always.

Brooke: Hm. I’m sure about that. And to go back to your little assumption, I didn’t drink that night to give myself permission to be with deacon. Something unusual took over me.

Taylor: Well, it certainly wasn’t your conscious, was it? This pattern has been going on for so long, brooke.

Brooke: Well, this is different. I haven’t had a pull to alcohol for so many years. It’s like it had control over me.

Taylor: Brooke, you said you’re not going to make excuses, but that’s what you’re doing. Y–you’re making excuses.

Brooke: Okay. Well, I don’t really care what you think, taylor. And I’m really sick of your judgements through the years. Please, ridge understands me and he trusts me.

Taylor: Does he?

Brooke: Yes, he does. He told me that he loves me and that we’re gonna work through this. I really hate to disappoint you. We’re gonna be fine.

Taylor: Speaking of ridge, where is he?

Ridge: You’ve always wanted brooke. Always. Even before you went to prison.

Deacon: We found ourselves alone unexpectedly. We started talking about the past, all right? The booze was flowing. We got caught up in the memories. We kissed once.

Ridge: Wow. You got my wife drunk, brought her up to her bed and then what happened?

To be a thriver with

metastatic breast cancer

Hope: It’s not right, steffy. Wishing for my mother and ridge’s marriage to end.

Steffy: I mean it, hope. I just want my father to be happy.

Hope: And you think that your mom is better for him than mine?

Steffy: Did you ever consider that might be true? My mother is a loving, reliable force in his life. In all of our lives. She’s really incredible. I mean, if your mom truly loved my father, she wouldn’t be looking at another man. She had deacon spend the night. The man that my father despises. For you to justify her decisions is like, it’s unreal, but I’m not surprised.

Hope: You know, no matter how you may feel about us, your dad loves my mom.

Steffy: Yeah, there’s no denying that. I’ll never understand it, especially when there’s another woman he can turn to.

Hope: Oh, my gosh. Here we go again. Do you ever hold ridge accountable for all those times that he left and his indiscretions? Or does he always get a free pass?

Steffy: My father doesn’t claim to be perfect.

Hope: Oh, and my mom does?

Steffy: We all know how manipulative brooke can be when it comes to getting her way.

Hope: Okay, you know what? Stop. Just stop. Stop bashing my mom. She’s never going to do anything like this again.

Steffy: I’ve heard that before. I’m just heartbroken for my father and I pray that he’s had enough of brooke. He’ll drop brooke and he’ll go back to my mother, where he should’ve been all along.

Ridge: You know it makes me sick, right? The thought of you and my wife in our bed?

Deacon: You know, I–I’m really trying to be patient with you here. I get that this would be a lot easier if you thought that I did something criminal.

Ridge: I think everything you do is criminal.

Deacon: Not anymore. I didn’t force her to do anything.

Ridge: Brooke was compromised. You took advantage.

Deacon: We were both drinking! Nobody was a victim here! You wanna blame me? That’s fine. Don’t blame brooke.

Ridge: I’ll always blame you for everything! Tell me I’m wrong!

Deacon: You know what I’ll tell you? I’ll tell you this. I have held back on kicking your ass so many times because hope and brooke were around. Well, I don’t see them here. So either get out of here or make a move.

[ Both grunting ] All right, man. You had enough?

[ Both grunting ] Really?

[ Both grunting ] Come on! Get up! Get up!

Brooke: Ridge? Ridge?

[ Deacon grunting ] Oh, my god!

[ Glass shattering ] What are you doing? Stop it! Stop it! Deacon, are you all right? It was me, ridge. I was drunk. Deacon didn’t do a thing.

Ridge: He didn’t do a thing? He didn’t do a thing?

Recap written by Christine

Victoria was pleasantly surprised when Victor dropped by the office. She asked what brought him by, and he asked if he needed a reason to visit his beautiful daughter and the company that bore his name. She assumed he was really there to ask if she knew about Ashland financing the company in Peru that developed his treatment. She said Ashland already told her. “So you’re realizing that he lied to you,” Victor replied. Victoria didn’t understand why Victor was scrutinizing Ashland’s treatment after he said he’d stop digging in Ashland’s past. It felt like a betrayal to her. He was actually there to ask how things were going with the merger. She said things were proceeding as expected, and Adam had been on his best behavior so far.

Victoria informed Victor that Adam made Sally his new COO. “Who the hell is she? What does she know about running a company?,” Victor snapped, then he griped about Adam making this decision without talking to him first. Victoria suggested that Ashland wasn’t the one Victor should be focusing on. Victor wondered if Adam was out of his mind, and he left. Victoria smirked. Ashland was in the hallway, and he got a text that said the American was still digging around the clinic. When Ashland walked in, Victoria said Victor claimed he wasn’t on a fishing expedition about Ashland. Ashland thought Victor was lying. Victoria said she turned the tables on Victor by refocusing him on Adam and his new accomplice, Sally. Victoria was beginning to wonder if things weren’t as solid between Adam and Victor as they both wanted her to believe.

Ashland thought that Victor still trusted Adam, since Victor insisted that Adam retain his position at Newman Media. Victoria suggested that Victor kept Adam in place so she could keep an eye on him. She said that Victor wanted to believe Adam could be trusted, but Victor knew it was a recipe for disaster. Ashland asked why Victor would give Adam power in the first place. “Maybe he wants Adam to learn his lesson from the best,” Victoria said. Ashland laughed and said Victoria really knew her father. Victoria said she’d been Victor’s pawn, his rook and even his queen. She’d watched Victor and she knew far more about how he played the game than Adam ever could. Ashland thought it’d be a grave mistake to underestimate Adam. Ashland didn’t think Adam played the game on Ashland and Victoria’s level. However, Adam didn’t like taking orders from them, and he wouldn’t sit back and accept his fate. “It’s not a question of if Adam is going to make his move. It’s when,” Ashland said.

Victoria said Adam was nothing but trouble, and she only kept him on to appease Victor. But once paperwork was done, and the merger was final… Ashland picked up where Victoria left off. He noted that there was nothing in the paperwork that said how long Adam had to stay, just a provision that there had to be due cause for his dismissal. Ashland smiled about Adam giving them just cause to fire him. Victoria suggested that, instead of waiting or Adam to screw up, they made sure that he did. Ashland smiled.

Victoria was relieved Ashland was on board. In the past, people had tried to stop her from doing something like this. He said they had to be careful, because it wouldn’t go well if Victor found out they were trying to undermine his son. Ashland said that once Adam and Sally were out, he’d be happy to oversee Newman Media again. She said it was a larger version of his former company. “I am quite used to maintaining a strong hand over everything I control,” Ashland said. “Everything you control?,” Victoria bristled. She pointed out that it wasn’t just his company – it belonged to both of them. He said he misspoke. “I was used to maintaining a strong hand in all I ever owned,” he corrected himself, but she still seemed guarded. He promised he was on her side, despite a slip of the tongue. She wanted to believe him, but his last confession had her a bit wary. He was sorry he didn’t tell her he financed the clinic in Peru. It was a stupid mistake, and he regretted it. He told her not to let her father sow seeds of doubt. “Adam is the untrustworthy one,” he stated. His phone rang, and he had to take it. He said he loved her and left. She still looked suspicious.

Adam was at his office. He picked up a cup off the floor and flashed back to his moment of passion with Sally. Sally was outside the door, and she also had a flashback. She knocked, and he said to come in. He wasn’t expecting it to be her, since he said she rarely locked. She said they fraternized and crossed many lines. He asked if she regretted it. She did not. He wanted her to relax, since nothing had changed except that they no longer had to pretend they didn’t want to rip each other’s clothes off. She disagreed; she said being together yesterday didn’t put water on the flames, it put gasoline on the flames. She said that things were going to be hot, and they’d stay that way when they were around each other. He said their valentines day celebration had a rare intensity – something you’d find in an earthquake. He said she wouldn’t believe how long it took to clean the office. She noted that there were aftershocks after an earthquake. He looked forward to it. She said when they ran into Chelsea, they were careful to hide the fact that things had progressed between them, but it was hard to hide something like this. He thought that was a good point. She asked how they were going to handle this. She also asked what “this” was.

Adam wanted to hear Sally’s opinion. Sally didn’t regret what happened. He said what happened was was spectacular. She just wanted to make sure it wasn’t a once-in-a-lifetime event. He thought they both knew it wasn’t just a casual hookup. He’d finally let go enough to be ready for this. “I want to be with you,” he revealed. He asked how she felt. She didn’t want to sneak around and be his dirty little secret. He didn’t want that either. He respected her too much to think of her like that. He thought about her last night, and he couldn’t get her off his mind. He’d thought of the way she smiled at her when she walked into the door without permission, the way that they did everything they could not to touch each other. He leaned in close to her and said he couldn’t think of any reason he’d want to keep her a secret. “I can,” said Victor, who’d walked in at some point.

Sally rushed away from Adam and picked up a name plate they’d knocked off the desk earlier. She tried to convince Victor that he’d misheard what he’d just heard. Victor told Adam that they were in a sensitive place, due to the merger, and they didn’t need distractions. Sally asked if Victor thought she was a distraction. Adam thought Victor owed Sally an apology. Victor addressed Sally and said she was more than an innocent distraction. He thought she’d had quite the career, from dress maker to Chief Operating Officer of a major company. He asked how she did it. She said the job offer took her by surprise as well, and only a fool would turn it down. Victor thought that only a fool wouldn’t realize they were punching way above their weight. Adam was confident in Sally’s abilities. He said she started a fashion house from the ground up and revived her aunt’s brand. Victor referenced a debacle at Forrester Creations and Sally’s duplicitous actions against his granddaughter. Adam said no one in this room had clean hands. Sally thanked Adam, but she said she could handle this.

Sally wouldn’t spend her life apologizing for the past. Victor assumed she had no regrets. That wasn’t what she meant. She said she made a move to get what she thought she deserved, and she was sorry people got hurt, but Summer landed on her feet. She said she’d turn Newman Media into a company people would pay attention to. Not because she had a bunch of degrees but because she’d spent her life making people sit up and notice her. She could do this. Victor wanted to talk to Adam alone, so Sally left.

Adam hoped Victor was satisfied Sally was the right choice. Victor was dissatisfied he wasn’t consulted first. Adam was frustrated that he now had to check in with Victoria and Victor. He said Victoria was counting the minutes until he failed, and it was clear Victor didn’t trust his judgment. He wondered if it was a mistake to stay at Newman Media. Victor said they hadn’t even finalized the merger. Adam was done justifying hiring Sally. “You’re really attached to this dress-maker aren’t you?,” Victor replied. Adam said Sally was more than that. Adam knew Victor had reasons to be suspicious, but Victor had only seen one side of Sally. Victor chuckled and guessed that Adam had seen all sides of Sally. Adam said that Sally wasn’t this self-serving mercenary; she was the right person for the job. Victor said he wouldn’t stand in the way as long as Sally was a team player and showed she could do the job.

Victor had a more pressing issue to deal with. He revealed that he’d never fully trusted Ashland. He said there were inconsistencies regarding the cancer treatment. Adam asked why Ashland would pretend to get better, unless he was trying to give Victoria hope. Victor didn’t think Ashland would do that, since Victoria had accepted his diagnosis before they got engaged. Adam suggested Ashland was pretending to be strong so that he could stay in the game. Victor instructed Adam to be vigilant with Ashland and report to Victor if he saw any contradictions in what Adam did. Adam said Ashland made it clear he hated that Adam was staying on and that he was keeping Adam on a short leash. Victor said that if Adam was on a short leash, he’d have a vantage point on how Ashland operated and whom he communicated with. Adam wondered if this was some kind of family loyalty test. “Are you hoping that I will decline your request to spy on Victoria’s husband, to prove that I won’t betray her?,” he asked. “If you love your family and your sister, you’ll do as I say,” Victor replied.

Sally returned after Victor left and asked if she needed to clean out her desk. Adam assured Sally that she was still COO. She wanted to shout it from the rooftops. He thought they should let PR handle that. She asked how Victor felt about her in-your-face stance. While Victor would never admit it, Adam could tell he was impressed. Sally said thanks for defending her. Adam was in awe, because not many people were brave enough to go toe to toe with Victor. She admitted she was internally shaking like a leaf. He didn’t notice, and he thought her outwardly cool demeanor was proof she was going to succeed. Sally wondered if Victor was going to try and sabotage her. Adam admitted Victor had done such things in the past, but he didn’t think it would happen this time, because Victor had something bigger to contend with. She asked if it was something good or bad. “Something interesting,” he replied.

Nick dropped by the ranch for a visit, and Nikki was surprised because it’d been awhile. She’d been wondering if he was avoiding his father. He said he and Victor were getting along lately. She mentioned that Victor was at Newman Locke. Nick assumed Victor went by to remind everyone who was still in charge. Nikki said Victor was an important part of the company, and he was there as an advisor. Nick thought it was inevitable that Adam and Victoria would fight, and neither of his siblings fought fair. He was concerned Nikki would get caught in the crossfire.

Nikki said she’d survived mergers, hostile takeovers etc. so she could handle sibling rivalry. She thought she might be able to even defuse a few situations before it got heated. Nick was there if Nikki needed to talk. Nikki said she’d never drag Nick into the corporate madness he’d escaped, especially when she saw how happy the choice made him. He was fired up about the work New Hope was doing. She was glad he was working with Noah and that he’d made peace with Victor, Victoria and Adam, to an extent. He said he was working hard to get along with everyone, even though they rarely made it easy. She noticed he seemed lost on the holidays, but his trip to see Summer helped. He said that spending time with Noah, Faith, Summer and Christian kept him on track. When he felt lost, he had four amazing reset buttons.

Nick told Nikki about Mariah and Tessa’s engagement party that Sharon threw and their plans to adopt a child. Nikki said she already knew because Faith always told her everything. Nikki smiled because soon she’d be able to call Sharon “Granny.” Nick wished Cassie would’ve gotten a chance to experience what Mariah was. Nikki said Cassie would always be with Nick, and she’d want him to celebrate the wonderful things coming his way. She said one day he’d have so many grandchildren he’d have to add a wing to the house. He thought that sounded awful. They shifted gears. Nikki knew who and what Victor was every time she married him, and she adored him, but there had been another entity in their marriage. Nick knew Nikki meant Newman Enterprises. She said Newman Enterprises was a part of all of them, even Nick, even though he chose another path. She wished Victor had been able to find a way to keep the family together through the company.

Nikki didn’t disparage Victor’s love for his family – his devotion had always been unparalleled. Nick said family was always Victor’s priority, but family and the business had always been intertwined. Nick said that he loved working with Noah, but if Noah wanted to quit, Nick would say he just wanted him to be happy. Nikki knew Victor had struggled with that. Nick said Victor always had something to keep him sane – Nikki – the love of his life. Nikki agreed she and Victor had something special. She said not every relationship was meant to last forever. Nick assumed Nikki was talking about his relationships. She admitted she wasn’t disappointed some of his relationships didn’t last. She wished him every happiness though. He said he was in a great place with the kids and New Hope. Victor came in and was happy to see Nick. Nick wanted to know about the merger. He asked if it was a good move to force Victoria and Adam to work together.

Victor was surprised Nick cared about the family business he walked away from. Nick said he left the business, not the family. Victor said that if Nick wanted to keep the peace between his siblings, there was a place for him at the business. Nick appreciated that, but he wasn’t coming back. He was more concerned about Victoria getting hurt than about the welfare of the business. Victor was glad to hear that, but he was keeping a keen eye on the business. Nick sensed there was a larger play in the works.

Ashland: You must be very excited.

Adam: About what, exactly?

Ashland: Your expanding universe. There are so many new possibilities for Newman Media.

Adam: More resources don’t always translate into more opportunities.

Ashland: Come on, that’s exactly what you were hoping for when you bid on ChanceCom yourself.

Adam: Not exactly.

Ashland: Okay, true enough. You probably weren’t anticipating working for your sister and you probably thought that you were gonna be running some independent venture, but I-I assure you, this is a scintillating time to be part of Newman/Locke. Great things are happening.

Adam: Well, you can consider me scintillated.

Ashland: I believe you will look back on this moment and be glad you came aboard when you did.

Adam: Well, I think that goes both ways. I think you and Victoria will look back and be very excited that I stuck around.

Ashland: [ Laughs ] Ooh, well, there’s that famous Newman confidence.

Adam: Hey, I’m just being serious. ‘Cause I actually have a proven track record of success in this field. And I have done a damn good job with Newman Media, and you have not had any complaints about my work.

Ashland: Fair enough, but the situation has changed.

Adam: Yes, but the work remains the same.

Ashland: Still, you are going to have to make some adjustments. You’ve been the — what, the sole decision-maker for a very long time. That’s not the case anymore.

Adam: Yes, I have accepted the fact that my father wants more of a say. And Victoria will occasionally want to weigh in, if, for no other reason, to remind me that she’s the boss.

Ashland: Not just your sister and not just occasionally. Adam. We own the company. We will be charting its course and giving you direction, not the other way around. Now, if you’re not comfortable with that, that’s fine. I would suggest you make a decision and move on.

*******************

Billy: Well, this has been very entertaining, trying to watch you take the high road. It’s kind of like watching those videos of cats playing the piano. You can’t really believe what you’re seeing, but you can’t take your eyes off it either.

Sally: Did you just compare me to a piano-playing cat?

Billy: Yeah, I don’t trust cats either. The point I’m trying to make is that Adam cost me my reputation and my job, which is the only reason I put that plan in motion in the first place. And I knew it would work because he loves to see people suffer. Wouldn’t be surprised if he had a fistful of popcorn as he watched the videos that you filmed.

Sally: I don’t know the person you’re describing.

Billy: No? Adam? About yay high, beady, untrustworthy eyes, brown hair to hide his devil horns on his head.

Sally: You’re wrong. Adam felt bad that your life was such a wreck, just like I did.

Billy: Yeah, but you still found the strength to keep filming me.

Sally: I don’t think Adam would have taken advantage of your suffering, which wasn’t real anyway, ’cause you’re obviously fine now. You’ve got this great new gig and you’re happy, which was the whole point of calling off your little scheme, right? To let go of the resentment that was eating you alive, right? Or am I mistaken?

Billy: So much for tip number one on getting a good night’s sleep. Nighty-night. Ahh. Process, reflect, and meditate on your thoughts. Process and reflect. What am I to process? I don’t feel like I have any fears. I don’t feel like there’s anything gnawing at me.

[ Sighs ] Meditate. Yeah. Let me see where that goes. Ahh. Okay.

[ Sighs ] Too lazy to type. Too wired to sleep. So, all you get is the sound of your own soothing voice. Some would say you like the sound of your own voice. Those people would be right. At least I know somebody is listening. Okay, so, how do we start? Who are you?

[ Chuckles ] What are you? Me.

[ Sighs ] You…are a man that had everything… and then lost almost everything.

[ Sighs ] And then you got most of it back except for the one thing that you miss the most — your sweet baby girl Delia. But what about all the other things that you lost? Because you were — because you were being an idiot, because you fought wars for no good reason, because you didn’t acknowledge what you had at the time. That is a tricky one. But that is a recipe for disaster. Have you learned anything? Have you learned anything?

*****************

Rey: I can’t imagine what that must have been like, with your mom involving you in all of her criminal activities. That must have been pretty scary for a little kid.

Chelsea: Not really. I didn’t know anything different, you know? It was just…normal. Dodging a bill collector? Sure. Skipping out on rent? Always. Working a con? Absolutely.

[ Laughs ] It was just the way to our next meal. I mean, most parents — they wake up in the morning and they go to work to put food on the table. Not Anita. No, no. Not my mom. She would stay up all night plotting how she was going to sucker some poor, gullible guy out of his hard-earned cash.

Rey: Pschew. Sounds rough, pretty lonely for a child.

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] Yeah. I guess it was. But Anita and I — we were a team. We didn’t have any other friends. We didn’t have any other family. It was just us. And she would remind me of that all the time that we needed to stick together, you know, not let anybody else into our world.

[ Sighs ] All outsiders could not be trusted. “Do unto others before they do unto you.” That was her motto.

Rey: Wow. Talk about imposing a warped sense of the world on a young mind.

Chelsea: I guess I… it wasn’t till I was older that the reality of it all started to set in.

Recap written by Christine

Lily got Dominic a onesie that said Jazz Baby on it, and she gave it to Amanda at the penthouse. Lily asked how things were with the baby, and Amanda said they were still waiting on the test results. Lily asked how the law practice was going. Amanda said it was going well, but slow. That was why she was home today. At first, there were so many clients they had to turn people away, but that had ended. They’d need more clients if they were going to be able to pay for the office space. She wasn’t overly concerned yet, because Imani had a lot of connections, and they had friends and family who’d agreed to send business their way. Lily asked if Sutton’s cronies would want to work with the lawyer who helped bring him down. Amanda got defensive, because she thought it sounded like Lily was trying to make her have doubts about her firm. Lily just thought Amanda should cast a wider net. Amanda was open to that. Lily said she was looking for representation.

Amanda asked if there was an issue with Lily’s contract. Lily’s contract was fine; Jill gave her everything she asked for, and she supported Lily’s vision for the company, even though her method was less traditional. Amanda was glad, because that wasn’t always the case. Amanda’s partner in Madison was stuck in his ways, and it was frustrating. That was why Amanda was trying not to be rigid with Imani. Lily said that there were senior execs at Chancellor who were resistant to change. Someone resigned that Lily had hoped to promote to division head. They talked about Amanda working with Lily and Billy at ChancComm. Lily wanted Amanda to work with them again at Chancellor Corporate. Amanda was flattered, but the timing wasn’t right. Lily said she was asking Amanda to be her new chief counsel, in charge of all of Chancellor’s legal operations. Amanda was caught off guard because that was a senior level executive role. Lily thought Amanda was more than qualified after her work at ChancComm. Amanda said that was a small division of a larger corporation, and Chancellor was international.

Amanda didn’t understand why Lily didn’t promote one of the Chancellor lawyers with decades of experience. Lily said no one had decades of experience in the areas she wanted to focus on. Lily wanted to do things that didn’t exist five years ago, like the podcast project Billy and Devon were working on. Lily wanted to work with people who’d grown up with advanced technology. Lily felt that working at ChancComm was the perfect preparation for what she was doing now. ChanComm always did stories about business and tech and now she was in the position to make sure ChancComm didn’t miss out on that. She wanted a strong team behind her, with people like Amanda, who were smart, capable and forward looking.

Chance was at home. He got a phone call that he ignored. He flashed back to the stakeout in the alley. He’d had a panic attack that rendered him unable to back Rey up. Abby walked in, snapping Chance back to the present. He asked how Dom was, and she said he was still lethargic. She was thankful he was there for her to lean on and that this didn’t happen while he was away on his mission. She said when he held her, he made her feel that their baby would be okay. She wondered if they should wake the baby up and let him eat. He thought they should let Dom rest. He asked if she was having any second thoughts about not telling her family. She didn’t want to say anything until they had answers. She said she didn’t want to worry anyone unnecessarily. She had all the support she needed from him, but she said she wouldn’t be offended if he needed to reach out to someone else. She asked if he told Rey. He said he told Rey about taking Dom to the doctor. “And that’s why he understood that you had to leave [the stakeout] early?,” she asked. Thanks to a phone call, Chance didn’t have to answer Abby’s question.

Nate called to say that he and another doctor were coming over to personally explain the results. Chance was surprised by the house call. Abby said that if this was good news or something minor, they would’ve been told over the phone. She mentioned that they should call Devon. Chance put a positive spin on it and said they were going to get answers and get Dominic the help he needed.

Devon met Billy at Society. Billy asked about Dom and empathized with how hard it was to have a sick child. He brought up the time Delia had leukemia and needed a bone marrow donor. Devon said he’d have to cut this meeting short if Abby, Chance or the hospital called. They started the meeting, and Devon was very impressed with the caliber of Billy’s presentation. Billy said he put it together last night. Devon recalled that Billy had been up a lot lately, and he asked if Billy ever slept. He said he’d sleep when he was old. Devon was sure Lily wouldn’t want Billy running himself into the ground. Billy said it wasn’t a big deal, and he was getting his best work done at night. He was working from home, so he got to sneak in a nap every so often. He said he let Lily listen to some thoughts he recorded, and it sparked an interesting conversation about life. Devon thought this sounded like a midlife crisis without the crisis. Billy said he was happy with where he was, and he’d do everything he could to keep it that way. One of Billy’s favorite ideas was a Q&A feature. Devon liked the idea too. He’d found a lot of help on parenting blogs. Billy joked that he’d start his own midnight podcast. Devon actually thought that was a good idea and that it might help people have the sort of deep conversations that Billy’s recording caused him and Lily to have. Nate called Devon to the Chancellor mansion, so he left.

Devon called Amanda from the Chancellor place with an update. She asked if he wanted her to join him, and he said no because it wouldn’t take too long. Abby came downstairs and hugged Devon. He thought it was a good sign that the doctors were coming here instead of telling them to rush Dom to the hospital. Nate and Dr. Alston arrived. Dominic didn’t have leukemia, but he had a serious rare blood disorder that needed to be addressed now before his bone marrow failed. He needed a bone marrow transplant. In the best case scenario, the transplant would lead Dominic to start making healthy bone marrow and red blood cells. Abby assumed she and Devon were compatible, since they were the biological parents. Nate explained that it was rare for a family member other than a sibling to be fully compatible, but Abby and Devon should still get tested, since they’d at least be half matches, since Dominic got half his genetic material from both of them.

Dr. Alston said that some people had gotten donations from their half-match parents. Chance assumed there would be complications if a half match was used. The doctor confirmed it wasn’t ideal. Devon wanted to be tested as quickly as possible, and Nate said he and Dr. Alston would go set things up. Abby wanted to go too. Abby thanked the doctors for explaining things. Dr. Alston assured everyone that there was real hope for Dominic to live a happy and healthy life. The guests left. Chance wanted to drive Abby to the hospital, but she said she wanted to go by herself. She wanted Chance to be home in case Dominic woke up and wanted his dad. She implored him to say everything would be okay, and he comforted her.

After Abby left Rey visited Chance. Chance told him the news on Dom. Rey could relate because Lola and Faith both needed a transplant once. He knew how terrifying it was to wait for a match to be found. He said he and Sharon would pray for Dom. Rey would also tell Paul, so no one would expect Chance at work. Chance wanted to explain what happened at the stakeout, and Rey said it wasn’t necessary. Abby returned as Chance insisted on apologizing for letting Rey down. Rey gave Abby his support, and he left. Chance asked how things went at the hospital. She said she’d find out soon if she was a match. Abby overheard what Chance said to Rey. He said he was just apologizing for leaving the stakeout, because it was poor form. Abby asked if something specific happened to make him realize he wasn’t ready to be there. He said she was right – it was too soon for him to go back to work. He didn’t want her to worry about him, when she had more important things to worry about right now. Dr. Alston called. Abby was only a half match, as expected. She asked what about Devon.

Amanda was having a hard time waiting for news on Dom. Lily said they could talk about the job offer as a distraction. Amanda now understood how the persuasive Lily was able to convince Billy to be her second in command. At first, Amanda didn’t think Billy’s pride would allow him to do that, especially since Billy and Lily were on equal footing at ChancComm. Lily said he turned her down the first couple times, but she gave him space and let him find his own path. At first, he was focused on revenge, but he realized he was letting his ego get in the way of a great opportunity. She said she and Billy fought less now that there was a clear chain of command. When Billy brought Lily something and she wasn’t sold on it, he’d make revisions or let it go. He was excited about transforming Chancellor, and they were having a lot of fun. Amanda knew Billy and Lily would do amazing things together. Amanda was impressed Billy had grown so much he could embrace a supporting role, but the idea of giving up her new practice… Lily insisted that Amanda come with her before finishing that thought.

Lily and Amanda went to Lily’s place. Billy was excited because he thought Amanda was joining the team. Lily thought Amanda should hear from Billy because he was hesitant at first, but glad he took the job. Billy said the vibe at Chancellor was electrifying, and the entire team was ready to revitalize the business. Amanda thought it sounded like the ideal work environment. Billy said Amanda would have more autonomy, a bigger office and paycheck. Amanda said that she couldn’t just walk out on her sister. Lily said there was a place for Imani at Chancellor. Billy stated that Imani could do entertainment law, or corporate lobbying, or Amanda could be her mentor at Chancellor. Amanda said they were making it really hard to say no. Amanda went to talk to Imani.

Billy said that Amanda would be great for Chancellor, and she’d also be helpful if he was tempted to cross a line again. Lily laughed and said she hoped Billy’s days of doing that were behind him. Billy confirmed he was just kidding. She asked about his meeting with Devon, and he said it went well. She hoped everything was okay with Dom. Devon loved the baby so much, and if anything was seriously wrong… Billy noted that Dom’s cousin was a head honcho at Memorial, and his grandfather was Victor Newman, so he’d get the best care possible.

Lily saw the graphic Billy made for his pitch to Devon. She asked about the thing that said Midnight Musings. He said he and Devon were joking about Billy making his own podcast based on the late night ramblings. He’d put it on the graphic because he thought Lily would get a kick out of it. Lily actually loved the idea of Billy having a podcast. Billy said it was just a joke, but Devon liked the idea too. Devon had reasoned Billy wasn’t the only one up at night philosophizing with a scotch in his hand. She said that it’d be easy to get sponsorships from liquor companies. He wasn’t interested in pouring his heart out for people to hear and judge. She didn’t think he should be so quick to shoot it down. She said he could stay anonymous. He still didn’t want to do it.

Devon went home, and Amanda was there. She asked if he got her message. He did, but he didn’t call back because he had to go to the hospital. He brought her up to speed on Dominic’s blood disorder. If they couldn’t find a donor, or even if they did, and the transplant didn’t work, Dominic’s life would be a living hell. She thought Dom should have a good chance of finding a match, because he had so many relatives, but he explained that the best chance was a sibling. For a perfect match, they’d need an… “Identical twin. The only instance where two people share same DNA,” Amanda finished Devon’ sentence. Devon said that he and Abby were Dom’s best chance, and since they were likely only 50% matches, that wasn’t optimal, because they might not be able to save the baby. Amanda hugged Devon.

Amanda said they’d find out everything about this disease, and they’d search the globe for donors, if necessary. She promised Devon he wasn’t in this alone – he had her, Lily, Nate, Abby and Chance, and they’d get through this together. The hematologist called, and Devon was elated by what he heard. “I’m a 100% match for Dominic,” he told Amanda, and they hugged.

Billy: Yeah, I apologize for missing our call this morning, but the dog ate my alarm clock, if you know what I mean. Right. Yeah. It happens to the best of us. Oh, they’re doing some work at the office, expanding them or doing whatever, so we’ve had to relocate and now we’re working from home for a little bit. On top of that, I didn’t sleep very well last night, so… okay, I appreciate you understanding. I’ll get Rita to reach out to you. Okay. Thanks again. Bye. Come on.

Amanda: [ Chuckles ] Speaking of tenacious, have you spoken with Phyllis?

Jack: Not yet. Milan is one of those cities that grabs hold of you and never lets you go. I’m sure Summer’s keeping her very busy. Last time I was there, it was nonstop.

Amanda: I have to say, you have quite the poker face.

Jack: I’ve negotiated my share of contracts.

Amanda: [ Chuckles ] Pleading the fifth, I see.

Jack: Why do I feel like I’m on the witness stand?

Amanda: I just really believe that you and Phyllis deserve happiness and I thought it would be together.

Jack: So did I, for a time. But you know what? Life is unpredictable.

Amanda: Yeah.

Jack: And so is Phyllis.

Adam: What brings you back here at this hour?

Sally: Remember how we were gonna discuss the details of the job you offered me at Newman Media?

Adam: Yeah. Um…sorry that our conversation got derailed earlier.

Sally: It’s okay. You had calls to take, people to meet. But I was hoping maybe we could talk now, because I don’t think I’m gonna be able to sleep until we do.

Adam: You sound worried.

Sally: Just more curious of the specifics of the job, like what exactly I’m gonna be doing on a day-to-day in a professional capacity and how that’s going to play out in reality.

Adam: You were so excited for us to continue to work together. You, uh, having second thoughts now?

***********************

Nick: I think we should order another batch of empanadas, and don’t tell me you’re not hungry. I mean, you wolfed down this whole first order. I barely got one.

Noah: Yeah, yeah, I can go for more. I think I can pass on whatever else you’re about to serve up.

Nick: Alright, what’s that?

Noah: I can’t help but notice that since we’ve gotten here, you have gone out of your way to keep the conversation on nothing but sports and movies. Nothing about the party we were just at, yet you’re watching my every move, trying to figure out what’s going on in my head. So I’m assuming the second course is coming with a big side of questions.

Young & The Restless Update

Y&R logo

Recap written by Christine

At Newman Media, sparks flew between Sally and Adam as they toasted two “two wrongs making something very right.” After Adam said this toast, he broke away from Sally’s gaze. He said they had to hit the ground running and come up with a specific plan. Sally said Adam would have to show the world that hiring her was the smart choice. He wasn’t worried about what the world thought. He was sure that everyone would soon see her as he did. She said that soon, Victor and Victoria would forget their doubt and accept him as the phenomenal CEO he was. They laughed about how they both thought that the other was responsible for the delivery of champagne and strawberries to the office. He noted that they agreed that they would make the partnership work by making sure things were uncomplicated. He asked if it would’ve been that bad if one of them sent the champagne and fruit. He thought that they may have overreacted earlier before they realized the champagne was from an advertiser, and he suggested they’d been overcompensating a bit.

Adam said there was something going on between him and Sally, but they were able to compartmentalize those feelings so it didn’t get in the way of what hey were trying to accomplish. “Are we?,” Sally asked. They decided to stop fighting things. He closed the door, and she locked it. Then they kissed. They moved throughout the room, pushing each other against things, sending objects flying to the floor, while kissing deeply. Things concluded with them under a blanket on the couch laughing about the intensity of it all. “I’ve waited a long time for this moment and I – I still wasn’t prepared for it,” she said. As they dressed, she wondered if things were going to get weird between them. “Did we make a mistake?,” she asked. He admitted he’d thought about this moment a long time too, and what he imagined didn’t come close to reality. He didn’t think it was a mistake. He asked if she did. “Are you kidding? I mean that was….” Sally began. She didn’t finish her sentence because she kissed him instead. She asked what now, and he said they didn’t have to figure it out right now.

At Crimson Lights, Rey told Sharon he’d have to work late. He felt bad because it was Valentine’s day. She knew that came with the territory of being married to a cop, and she liked the idea of him making it up to her later. She asked how Chance was on the stakeout. He was sorry to say Chance wasn’t ready to return. She hoped Chance got the help he needed. Since they were together right now, he wanted to show her how much he loved her. He asked what he could do, and she said he could clean out the walk in refrigerator. He was willing to do it, but he was kidding. She said she could close down the coffeehouse for a bit, so they’d have privacy. They kissed. Faith ran in and she was upset because the day was half-over, and she didn’t know what to get Moses. She said she wasn’t going to get him a mug with a soccer ball on it, like Sharon got Rey, because that would be lame. Sharon said that wasn’t even close to what she got Rey. Rey and Sharon made some suggestions, but none of them sounded right to Faith.

Sharon and Faith continued their talk on the patio. Faith said this was a crisis, and Sharon said to calm down because this wasn’t a problem. She said finding a gift for a person you cared about could be fun. Sharon told Faith to just think about who Moses was and what made him happy. Faith smiled when she thought about how Moses’s smile lit up the world. Faith appreciated Sharon’s advice, and she hugged her mom. Rey saw them from inside and smiled.

Nick and Noah talked about work at Society. Noah asked if they could speed up the project because it was going to help people. Nick said it took time. The Valentine’s decorations didn’t help Noah’s mood. Nick said the holiday was a shame made to part suckers from their money. Noah knew Nick didn’t really feel that way, because Noah had seen Nick go all out for Valentine’s day. Noah asked if they could hang out tonight, since they were dateless and Nick said yes. Noah left. Moses tracked Nick down, and he looked worried. Moses hadn’t figured out what to get Faith for Valentine’s. He came to Nick because Devon was busy with Amanda, and Nate was working. Nick asked Moses what he was trying to say with this gift.

Moses really liked Faith, and he wanted to get her something that showed how special she was to him. He thought an idea would just come to him, but it never happened. Nick thought it was clear Moses cared about Faith, and it said a lot that he was willing to come to her father about it. He thought Moses was brave to come to him. Moses appreciated Nick talking this out with him. He called Nick pretty cool. Nick said even Faith never said that to him. He was glad to help.

Moses met Faith at Crimson Lights. Sharon watched them with a smile until Rey came up. He told Sharon she was amazing, but perhaps the kids needed space. The adults decided to do chores in the back.

Faith thought it was nice that someone made this Love Day. Moses said it had to suck for people who didn’t have someone to love. Moses had a heart shaped box for Nick. He told Faith it was a joke he’d explain later. Faith hoped Moses didn’t feel forced to get her something. He didn’t. He just wanted to get the right thing. They both got each other tickets to Coltrane. She remembered that he liked Coltrane and that he listened to it with his dad. She recalled the first time he played Coltrane for her,he’d had her close her eyes so she could see the music. It was like magic. He’d felt that same magic the first time Neil played Coltrane for him, and he felt it again when he introduced Faith to the music.

Nick arrived and commented to Sharon on the young love. She brought up their teen years. He remembered the first gift she gave him – a friendship bracelet she made herself. He said it worked because they were still friends. He looked over at Faith and Moses holding hands. He said Moses came to him in a panic because he couldn’t come up with a gift for Valentine’s day. Sharon said that Faith did the same thing with her. Nick mentioned his advice to Moses. He said that apparently, Moses and Faith had recently listened to a jazz record together and shared a special moment. Sharon grinned because there was a Salute to Coltrane concert flier that was pinned up outside. They high fived when they realized they’d helped Faith and Moses choose the same gift. Nick put his arm around Sharon, just as Rey returned and saw them.

Tessa and Mariah were at home. Tessa had a Valentine’s day song for Mariah. Tessa serenaded with with a song about their life and love, but she was less than a minute into it when someone knocked on the door. Tessa looked disappointed. Mariah said they could ignore the person until they left. Tessa said they couldn’t do that, because maybe it was Sharon. Mariah said her mom would know better than to interrupt them on Valentine’s day. Tessa promised to start the song again once the person was gone. Mariah opened the door. It was Noah with a housewarming/engagement/soon-to-be-parents gift. Mariah said that they’d learned from the adoption class that this would be a long challenging process. Noah saw the candles and realized he was interrupting, so he decided to leave. He’d tried to come over early, assuming that they wouldn’t be celebrating yet. Mariah said it was fine and asked him to stay. Tessa echoed the sentiment.

Noah’s gift was a painting of Mariah and Tessa. He wanted them to know how much he was rooting for them and for their adoption plans. Mariah and Tessa put the picture on the shelf and told him how much they loved it. Noah decided to leave, and Mariah hugged him. After Noah was gone, Tessa sang to Mariah. “This isn’t perfect. Neither are you. Neither am I. But I choose this, every time,” was the hook. Mariah’s eyes filled with tears as she listened. At the end, they kissed.

Noah went downstairs and moped when he saw Faith kiss Moses on the cheek.

Rey was still in the doorway watching Nick and Sharon. Nick had the box of candy from Moses. Rey went over and joined Sharon and Nick, and they all grabbed candy from the box.

Chelsea and Chloe met at Chelsea’s hotel suite. Chloe was sorry she couldn’t come over last night, but Bella was fine after her nightmare. Chelsea said she had trouble sleeping last night too, and she ran into Rey and had a normal conversation. He didn’t judge her. Chloe thought a lot less people would judge Chelsea now that she wasn’t with Adam. Chloe told Chelsea to keep looking forward and focus on the upcoming pitch from Lauren. Chelsea didn’t think they should get their hopes up. The last time Chelsea worked for Lauren, she basically stole from her, and when they recently talked, Lauren made it clear she wasn’t willing to ignore that. Chloe thought Lauren saw how hard Chelsea was trying to get her life back on track, and making a break from Adam was proof Chelsea was serious about starting fresh. Chelsea wasn’t convinced, but Chloe said Chelsea had to start dreaming big, because no one was going to hand them anything, and they had to get things for themselves.

Chelsea and Chloe went to Society and they were in a good mood about their plans for their career. Sally and Adam walked in, and they saw Chelsea and Chloe. Sally and Adam checked in with each other and realized they were both okay with staying, so they did. Sally said there was a lot they needed to figure out, but this wasn’t the time or place. He said they didn’t have to figure it out now, and they could play it by ear. She noted that it was normal for CEOs and COOs to have a business lunch.

Sally and Adam went over to say hello to Chelsea and Chloe. Chelsea noted that Adam and Sally had been spending a lot of time together lately. He said Sally was his new COO. Chelsea was surprised that was the job Adam gave her. He said Sally would be amazing. Sally said it was nice working with someone who appreciated her skills. “I’ll bet he does,” Chelsea replied. Chloe congratulated Sally. Chelsea thought Adam would have his hands full with on the job training. Adam thought Sally had already shown how capable she was. Sally said they couldn’t spend all their time at the office, as much as she loved the energy and sparks that were flying there. He asked how things were going with Chloe and Chelsea. Chloe said they were putting together their final pitch for Lauren. Sally knew from experience that Lauren could be a stickler, so she advised them to cross their Ts. Chelsea said she’d worked with Lauren before too, so she knew what Lauren wanted and needed. Sally emphasized that her experience with Fenmore’s was recent, and she offered to take a look at their pitch. Sally then stopped making her offer and said that Chelsea and Chloe would be great. Sally thought it was fortunate that Lauren was willing to give Chelsea a second chance – an opportunity that not everyone got. Chelsea said it was a good thing they didn’t tie Sally up with a contract, since there was an amazing opportunity just waiting for Sally with Adam. “It’s almost like we did you a favor,” Chelsea said. “You have no idea,” Sally replied.

Adam said it looked like things worked out well for everyone. He knew Sally would be an incredible COO, and he knew Chelsea, Chloe and Lauren would be great business partners. He excused himself and Sally. Chelsea said that the presentation was going to blow Lauren away.

At their table, Adam asked Sally if she was good, and she called this the best Valentine’s day ever.
