The longer she takes, the more time I have to look for a new place. Moving? My rent is way too high. I really need to downsize. Yeah, I heard. You left deception. Wow. I mean, I’m sorry I didn’t text you about it. Not such a good friend, huh? It’s totally fine. I am doing great. Oh. Really? I mean — I mean, I know how much you put into that company. Yeah, with the — all the changes that were happening, it was time to go. And I’m really glad that I did. Okay. Well, the appearance on “home & heart”…? One-time thing. I don’t miss the job at all. I just haven’t quite figured out what to do next. Well, since you’re looking, would you be interested in working here at the metro court? Oof. Why are you putting that processed garbage in your body? You are running yourself ragged at the hotel, and then you are condemning everybody in this house to life in leftover manor. Clearly, it is time to hire a cook. Bite your tongue. Told you I was fine. I know. You keep saying that. And my doctor agrees. Last night’s little episode — the temporary paralysis. Temporary. Yes. I’ve made a full recovery. Is — is violet here? I don’t want to argue in front of her. No, no, she’s still at school. We’re not arguing, dad. I’m just looking out for you. You, uh — you need to lie down? No, the couch is fine. And — and don’t worry. I’ll take it easy the rest of the day. Now, aren’t you needed at the hospital? Dad. I think we’ve reached a point where you shouldn’t be left alone for long periods of time. What exactly are you saying? I think we should consider an in-home caregiver. Just in case anything like last night happens again. Mom. Got a minute? For you, always. [ Chuckles ] How do you feel about living with sonny? Did I hear my name?

[ Chuckling ] Oh, yes. Hi, sonny. What’s up? Uh, I need your help. B-both of you. Really? With what? Yeah, I-I want to commission one of your artists to, uh, create a piece so I can donate it — you ready for this? — To the city. What makes you think the city would be interested in that?

I appreciate your perspective. I realize that I have been a little overbooked lately. A little? I can feed my family. You need to face facts, olivia. You are spreading yourself too thin. You have reduced your son to eating “snackeroos” and peanut butter a la yuri. Okay. Carly’s back at the metro court, and — you’re missing the point! The quartermaine family has always had a cook. We need one. You trying to kick me out of my own kitchen?

[ Chuckles ] It’s “monica’s kitchen. Ugh. Alan gave it to her.” And you are not staff. You are a quartermaine. You live here, you don’t work here. And while I definitely admire your concerted effort, you cannot be responsible for feeding this family. I’m calling an agency. I’m getting referrals. No! I will agree to a cook… but only if I hire the cook. I’m co-owner of the metro court again. How did that happen? Nina sold her half. Wow. Well, congratulations. Thank you. I’m really happy for you. I-I’m just caught off-guard. Nina never told me anything about selling. Well, I think it happened pretty quickly. So…does that mean you would consider working for me? Of course I would consider it. I really appreciate the offer. But it’s not what you’re looking for, is it? I don’t know. I’m — I’m trying to look around and see what feels right. Yeah. I’ve been there. But you know what does feel right? You back here at the metro court.

[ Laughs ] Yes. And nina at crimson. Better there than here, yes.

[ Laughs ] I’m going to take these to a customer. Please, if you need anything, let me know. I’m happy to help. Thank you. I will. And I will definitely keep this place in mind. Thanks. Josslyn and krissy had another blow-up, and this time, josslyn had some very specific things to say about sonny. Kristina has very big feelings about her father. He’s her hero. Nobody knows that better than I do. I think that’s really why kristina was so upset, because deep down, she knows that the things josslyn was saying are true. And we talked, and she was calmer by the time she left. But then when tj found out that she’d come over so late and how wound up she’d gotten, now tj’s worried that all the stress is going to hurt our baby. And what did you say? I tried to defend kristina’s feelings. I mean, it is upsetting. I can’t even imagine, but there are other things to consider. The stress can’t be good for kristina or the baby. It certainly isn’t good for tj. Or you. It’s gotten to the point where prosecuting criminals is how I relax.

[ Chuckles ] Been there. So, I was hoping… could you talk to kristina? There are caregivers out there that can keep a low profile. There should be a babysitter when I’m alone with violet — for violet. Not for me. What if violet hadn’t been here last night? What if she hadn’t gotten you your ventilator? I knew something was wrong, and I asked violet to get the ventilator for me. If I had been alone, I would have called 911. And if that same paralysis had hit, and you were unable to dial? Well, fortunately, I’m not quite there yet. No, not — not this time. What about the next time? Because you and I both know it will happen again. And the time after that and the time after that. I don’t need to think about the time after that yet. I just need to be ready for the next time, and I will be, son. I promise. Dad? You know that’s not good enough. You know, I know we’re in your gallery, but couldn’t I have a moment alone with sonny? Yeah. By all means. It’s just you and me, laura. What’s on your mind?

Understand if you can’t seemy point of view, but… maybe you can see violet’S. I’ve never seen her more scared than what she was last night. Think about that. Put yourself in her shoes, watching her grandfather collapse. Running to get his ventilator. Watching him lie on the sofa unable to move. What do you think that did to her? So is violet afraid to be alone with me now? No. She’s not. She probably never will be. She loves you. She — she wants to spend all the time with you that she possibly can. What if things had been worse? But they weren’T. No. No, not this time. What about next time? What happens if you start to aspirate or collapse or convulse or pass out completely? Knowing violet, she’d probably try to save you. And if she couldn’t, she’d blame herself. I would never allow that to happen. At the risk of being the devil’s advocate, how would you stop it, dad? Look, we have a responsibility to make sure violet feels safe in her own home, right? That’s emotional blackmail. I know! It’s also the reality. It’s the reality that we have to accept. The bottom line, dad, is you need help. And when I’m not here, you need a caregiver. Period. Or what? Oh. Sasha.

[ Gasps ] Olivia, hi. This is perfect. Uh, you got a second? I do, yeah. What’s up? Okay. Well, first of all, I want to thank you for saving my neck the other day with the shepherd’s pie. Oh. It was absolutely delicious. Dante won’t stop talking about it. Frankly, I’m getting a little bit jealous. Well, I am very happy to give you the recipe. It’s one of those dishes that once you make it a couple of times, you can start to play around with it and add your own touches. Right. Right, right. Well, I do want the recipe. I can’t wait to make it. Uh, and that leads me to what I actually want to talk to you about. Um, ever since the last cook left at the quartermaines, I have been doing all the cooking. And when I get very busy, which does happen sometimes, the family’s sort of left to fend for themselves. So I’ve had to accept that — okay, it’s been pointed out to me that it’s time for the quartermaines to hire a new chef. You know, fend for themselves means different things to different people, like for — for leo and monica, it means that yuri makes eggs for breakfast and peanut butter sandwiches for lunch. Carly. May I have a moment?

[ Exhales slowly ] That depends. What’s it about? I got to find someone that I can work with, you know? I won’t go back — I cannot go back to the days when the quartermaines were banned from the kitchen, you know? I mean, b-before cook three left, I don’t think tracy knew where the kitchen was.

[ Laughs ] Well, that tracks. Yeah, I-I love cooking for my family. You know that. You know, I actually find it very, uh, therapeutic almost, you know? I feel the same way. There are people who find joy in life because of the labor intensity of my lasagna. Okay? Cooking to me has always been, I don’t know, peaceful. Grounding. Yeah. Yes. Uh, maybe it’s because I always cooked with my grandmother. Oh. The times that I spent in the kitchen with her, it’s — it’s definitely what I miss the most about her. Aww. You really loved her. Still do. And you love cooking through her, huh?

[ Chuckles ] Yeah. I guess I do. And you’re good at it. So what do you say? Women have earthquake hormones during pregnancy. Right? So they live through it. Babies ride through it. I know that intellectually. It’s just — I know you’re worried. I know you’re terrified. Pretty much. But on bright side, you know how thrilled your sister is to do this for you. And she is oddly thrilled about the ups and downs of the pregnancy. I am so grateful to kristina for doing this, and I love how excited she is about it. I really do. But there’s something more. So what is it besides josslyn’s crusade? Well, this would just all be a lot easier if tj could relax a little. I mean, kristina’s emotions go to 11 over sonny, and then tj’s go to 11 over kristina. And I can imagine tj’s 11 is a lot different than your sister’S. Well, yeah, ’cause he’s always been so even-keeled. Whatever that means. I think it has something to do with boats. Never mind. Go on. So when he’s this upset, it doesn’t look like a lot, but if you know him… it’s seismic. Yeah, and when he’s upset, I get upset. And then I start to maybe think that this is actually all my fault, because tj has spent years and years listening to my side of my arguments and disagreements with my sister. And so maybe because of that, tj doesn’t trust kristina. Sonny, what’s behind this latest burst of philanthropy? It’s for my kids. I mean, you know, port charles has always been their home, and if they visit, um, city hall and they see something beautiful that I donated, then they could feel as proud of the city as I do. And proud of you? And what if, one day, your little girls find out that you nearly beat a man to death with your bare hands, do you think it’s all going to be okay because you donated art? Why — why — why would you ask me that? Laura, w-we’ve been friends for how many years? And you’re gonna — you’re gonna turn on me?

I don’t think that tj thinks krissy is a bad person or that she would ever do anything to intentionally harm the baby. Molly, of course not. But she is who she is. And he is who he is. And the two of them, they are emotional opposites. That they are. Tj and i are both just so excited and nervous to be parents, and we’re just treating every bump in the road like it’s this huge mountain to overcome, but there are bound to be bumps. Oh, there are, and there will be. And kristina has every right to be worried about her father. But I just — I don’t know how she’s gonna handle it if things get worse for sonny. What did he do now?

[ Sighs ] Will you just check in with kristina? Do I have to? Please? Okay. Thank you. I got to get back to work. You want me to take that down? No, no, no, no, I got it. You go. Okay. I love you, mom.

[ Chuckles ] That’s so good, ’cause I love you, too. Ah. I see finn called in reinforcements. No, not this time. Should he have? Well, am I expected to believe you’re not here to check on me?

[ Chuckles ] That’s a ridiculous question. Of course I’m here to check on you. That’s what friends do. Are you trying to pick a fight with me? No. I’m not. You sure? I’m sorry, I just — I saw my doctor today. What’d he say? That I’m back to what passes for normal for me these days. Huh. No expert, but that sounds like good news. It is. But it’s not good enough for my son. No, no, finn is insisting that I hire an in-home caregiver to monitor me. That sounds sensible to me. It’s not sensible. It’s overreacting. And it’s not gonna happen. How about what? You — you want me to help you interview potential cooks? No! I want you to be the new cook. Me? Yes! Wow, that’s the second job offer today. What? Uh, never mind. Okay, okay, here’s what I need. I need someone to do breakfasts, lunches, including school lunches for the endless parade of kids going through that house, and dinners on weeknights. I will do dinners on weekends and any other time that I want, but I promise I will give you a proper heads-up. And, honey, I know. I know that cooking for the quartermaines is not the same as, you know, cooking for yourself, but I promise you that everyone will be very patient with you while you get used to the job. So what do you think? Wow. I mean, I know it’s a lot to take in. I know. Yeah, it is. I never thought I would end up in a kitchen again. Again? There’s a electrical problem in my office. Really? We can’t have that. What kind of electrical problem? We’ve been experiencing random surges. Have you? That’s terrible. And it’s been happening more and more frequently. Funny. That never used to happen until the “emergency maintenance” the previous co-owner ordered for no apparent reason. The reason was flooding. And yet nothing was wet. But you’re having an electrical issue. So you know what I’m gonna do? I’m gonna hire the contractors you used since you liked their workmanship so much. Great. As long as the problem is addressed. Oh, one more thing, carly. Jason may have bought the metro court back for you, but the person you should really be thanking is… ava. I don’t see how trying to tell you the truth means that I’ve turned against you. Okay. Fine. You want the truth? I’m just saying I think that’s the least you’re going to owe your kids. Okay, do you tell your kids the truth about everything? Well, the important things, I really try. Alright. Let’s say donna and avery come to me one day and they say, “dad, hey, look, why’d you beat that guy up?” I’m going to say that I lost my temper. I had my reasons, but I regret my actions. Is that okay? You know, it’s just that I haven’t really seen any evidence of that regret, sonny. Well, you and I both know that cyrus is not a victim. Yeah, I know what he’s capable of. I do. That’s the thing. I-I don’t think you do. He belongs in prison till the day he meets his maker. Do you really think you’re in a position to judge, to judge who deserves to be behind bars and who doesn’t? Since when do you care about cyrus? He’s been your brother, what, five minutes? It’s because of what you did to him. You and I are family. We’re blood. Connected through spencer and rocco. Yes, I know. That’s true, but that has nothing to do with this, sonny. I don’t even know why we’re talking about this. What we’re talking about is — sonny, what we’re talking about is a lifetime of crime and violence that I have looked past time and again, and I can’t do it anymore. I just can’T. Okay? And… I can’t turn a blind eye anymore to your business. The things that you’ve done, the crimes, the people you’ve hurt… people that you’ve killed. And putting a wing on the hospital and donating art to the city, it doesn’t just make all of that go away. Okay? They still happened. They’re still there. They matter. They matter. It doesn’t just disappear because you did your daily good deed.

Okay, what does ava have to do with jason buying the metro court? I didn’t accept the offer right away. I talked it over with ava first, and she led me to believe that sonny would like it if I sold the metro court to his best friend. Well, she sandbagged you. Ava was standing right there when sonny called jason a traitor and threw us both out of the penthouse. Yeah, I figured that, after the deal was done — too late to change my mind. Well, it’s a pattern with ava. She uses people until they’re no longer useful. That’s what she did with my son. In the end, all ava cares about is getting what she wants. Well, in ava’s defense, not everyone has a jason to get her what she wants. Like losing a hotel fair and square. So much for you earning the metro court back on your own. Hello? Yeah, come on in. Oh, hi. This a bad time? I hope so. If not, I’d have nothing to report. Hey, look, I’m really sorry to bother you at work. I just, I was on my way to a meeting, and I — just, uh — what — uh — what’s going on? My father had a seizure last night. No. Resulted in a sort of temporary paralysis. Oh, god. He’s okay. My dad’s okay. Sit, please. Alexis, when I walked in, and I saw him lying there unable to move, and violet beside him, terrified, not knowing what was going on — is she okay? I think seeing her grandfather collapse and just lying there, and she had to run and get his ventilator, I think it’s something she’ll never forget. But right now, she’s as good as can be expected. How is gregory? His als is… progressing rapidly, but my dad — you know, I get it. He wants to be — he wants to be independent. He wants to make up for all those risks he never got to take in life, jumping out of airplanes and whatever it is that makes him feel alive, but — but. I, uh… I talked to him today, and I told him that I — I think we need to get some sort of in-home help when I’m not there, and he just flat-out refused, and we had this big argument. I’m sorry. I’m not shocked, but I am sorry. Yeah, me, too. You know, and I get it, and I’m trying to do — I am. I’m trying to do everything I can to support him. But at some point, I have to put my daughter first. The day is coming when I will be completely helpless, when I’ll need people taking care of my every need, my every bodily function, watching over me all the time, every single moment, but I am not there yet. You’re not. Far from it. Thank you. So why is it such a sin for me to hold on to what little autonomy I can for as long as I can? It’s not. Okay. You’re being very agreeable. I find it suspect.

[ Laughs ] You have every right to hold on to your autonomy as long as you possibly can. Thank you. Just as finn has every right to have a safe emotional environment for his daughter. He can’t risk violet finding you unable to move or worse. You’re not telling me anything that finn hasn’t told me already. Good. Then I assume he’s already asked you the obvious question. And what question is that? What is more important to you? Your pride, or your granddaughter’s well-being? What am I supposed to do, laura? Confess to everything I’ve been accused of? Well, that depends. How many of the things you’ve been accused of are true? Well, I’ve done far less than cyrus. I can tell you that right now. Yeah, but cyrus’ crimes don’t absolve yours. He held you at gunpoint. Wha– and I’m the bad guy? I —

[ Sighs ] I think there are two bad guys. I’m sorry. You know, you showed me that by what you did to him. What I do is I do everything I can to protect my business, my family, and everybody that I care about. And guess what, laura? That includes you. You know why? Why? Because — so the bad guys don’t come after you. Yeah. Well, being a-a good man when you’re not committing a crime doesn’t absolve you from the times that you do commit a crime. And being really good at covering up your tracks does not make you less guilty. At some point, sonny, at some point, you have to be held accountable. By who, laura? Think of your children. Okay? Your little girls, donna and avery. What’s going to happen when they get old enough to figure out what their father does for a living? And they will. You’re not going to be able to keep that from him. What are you going to say, sonny? I’m going to do what I always do. Do everything in my power… …to protect them. Yeah, I know you will. But who’s going to protect them from you?

I worked as a line cook and a part-time chef a few summers in the hamptons. I’m telling you. Sasha, this was meant to be! I was never, never the head chef. I was the substitute sous chef when the real sous was out. But you worked in a busy restaurant. So cooking for the quartermaines is gonna be a piece of cake. I mean, you know, an overly ornate, five-tier pain in the butt kind of piece of cake. But still, it’s a piece of cake.

[ Chuckles ] Olivia, this is really, really flattering. But are you sure that you want to offer me a job based on one shepherd’s pie? Honey, you love to cook. You’re a great cook. We need a cook. It’s a match made in heaven. Or a opening in the universe, depending on your spiritual beliefs. Not to mention the fact that cody shows up for dinner several nights a week, and I’m sure he wouldn’t mind having you around. Tell me that I’m wrong. Tell me that I shouldn’t just give in to him and give him everything that he wants. I can’t tell you that. And I want to give him everything he wants. I do. I mean, listen. Go parasailing, you know? Go get shot out of a cannon. Go into space and see earth from orbit, alright? Let’s do all of these things. I’ll do them with you. But I don’t think my dad can do those things right now. So shouldn’t I just grant him this, give in to him, give him this one thing? Maybe. I mean, it’s certainly worth trying again to talk to him, but I don’t know that you’re going to end up with different results. You’re right. I’m — I’m going to go back and talk to him. Well, I-I thought you were going to a meeting. Yeah. Yeah. I-I can do that later. Okay, so when the oxygen mask drops from a plane, what do you do?

[ Sighs ] You — you put your mask on first, but this is — it is the same thing. This is as challenging as it gets, and in order for you to navigate through this, you’re going to have to take care of yourself, which means taking care of your sobriety. I-I know what you’re saying. I do. I get it, but in this moment, that just feels so selfish. Then be selfish. Can your dad wait for an hour for you to go to a meeting? I’m not sure. What do the doctors think? Probably. I don’t know. Listen. I understand your father’s need to hold on to his autonomy for as long as he can. But I also know that nothing is more important to him than violet. I never want violet to be afraid the way she was last night. I was scared, too. When something like that happens, you never know when it’s going to end, if ever. But even while I was trying to stay calm, the worst part was knowing that I couldn’t comfort my granddaughter. How do you think she felt, not able to comfort you? I understand what you’re saying. I do. But you and finn need to understand what I’m saying. Okay. There is another solution. Great. I’m all ears. First, you have to decide what’s most important to you. If it is, in fact, spending the time that you have left with finn and violet here in their home, then you have to abide by finn’s wishes. But if your independence is your top priority, then you simply move into an assisted living facility. Turning woods is supposed to be really nice, and you can have violet visit you there. Look, I didn’t intend for us to have this conversation here today, and I really didn’t mean for it to go like this, either. I hope you’ll take some of what I said to heart, sonny, please. Just think about it. Just think about doing the right thing. Okay. At any rate, uh, the city of port charles will not be accepting your donation of art. Not while I’m the mayor. What happened to laura?

[Panting] E the time at your meetingto give your dad some time to think things through. And then talk to him again, tell him that you and chase and violet are worried about him and want him to have someone to take care of him when you can’t be there. And I think sooner rather than later, he will see your wisdom. Here’s hoping. And whether he does or not, you cannot take care of your family until you take care of yourself first. Yeah. That’s good advice. Yeah, I’m good. I’m good.

[ Laughs ] You are. In fact, I’m so good, I’m gonna follow my own advice. Hmm? Would you like company at your meeting? I’d love it. Gregory: You’re good. Oh, you’re going to have to narrow that down a little bit. The art of persuasion. Oh, that. Obviously, if I have to choose between turning woods and here, even with a caregiver, of course I choose here. Gregory, that’s not persuasion. That’s just common sense. And by the way, if I were in your shoes, I would be handling this much, much worse. I wouldn’t sit for it. I wouldn’t stay. I’d run away to the far corners of the earth where my family can’t find me, to help me, to care for me. And no matter how miserable and lonely I got, I’d still have my dignity and my freedom. And no one to share it with. But luckily, you, my friend, are so much smarter than I am. You, tracy quartermaine, are the smartest woman I know. I can’t say it isn’t tempting. I left deception because i wasn’t satisfied there anymore. I want something completely different from what I’ve been doing. And working as a chef for the quartermaines would definitely be different. Honey, look, I don’t want to pressure you. Of course not. But I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you that this was a live-in position, which means that you would get free room and board in a beautiful mansion with all meals included. So I’ll get to eat what I make. Better. You get to eat what i make. And get paid for it. Come on, sasha. What do you say? I say… it’s exactly what I need right now.

[ Both laugh ] Other than fixing electrical issues that you brought on yourself, is there anything else I can do for you? I might as well just tell you. I signed the divorce papers. Sonny and i are no longer married. But ava is closer to him than ever. And from one ex-wife to another, I don’t think ava is good for sonny. In fact… I think that she could be toxic for him. I don’t agree with you on much, but I do agree with you there. She doesn’t want my gift to the city. Oh. Yeah. Well, I was surprised by laura’s reaction at first, but I thought you could talk her into it. Public art benefits everybody. Not when it comes from the wrong person, I guess. Since when are you the wrong person? You have been unfailingly generous to the city of port charles. There are wings at the hospital and playgrounds in the park because of you. Doesn’t matter to laura. She can’t get past what I did to cyrus. Does she know that he provoked you? That he orchestrated his own beating? It wasn’t your fault, sonny. She thinks it was. I owned up to it, and now she wants to punish me. I’ve been good to laura. I’ve been good to laura for — for so many years. And she’s, you know, I thought she was loyal to me, but… guess not.

[ Knock on door] mit the budget to the city council when it is done. I can’t submit… hey! …Until we have discussed the allocations to the school system. You know what? Block his number. I’ll call him back. Yeah. I’ll call back when I’m done being annoyed. Okay. Thanks.

[ Exhales heavily ] I’m sorry I interrupted. That sounded important. Oh, everything’s important right now. I’m sorry that my timing wasn’t better. Oh, no, no, your timing is perfect. Just ask ace. Right, ace?

[ Laughs ] Maybe he can fix the budget.

[ Both laugh ]

[ Yawns ] I thought you left before I got up and that’s why your side of the bed was empty. Not this time. What happened? Kristina came over late last night after brook lynn’s bridal shower bachelorette bash. Mm-hmm. She and josslyn got into a fight, and she was so mad, she was practically levitating when she got here. I didn’t want to disturb you after she left, so I just crashed out here. I don’t love the fact that kristina was out late and emotionally stressed. Well, it isn’t an every night thing for her. Brook lynn’s shower was a special occasion. I get that, but, I mean, is it — it’s reasonable, right, to expect a pregnant woman to change her habits somewhat? And she has, tj. You know, did you expect kristina to sit at home every night for nine months? Of course not, no. Kristina has to live her life. Brook lynn’s shower was a big deal, and she shouldn’t have missed it. Yeah. It sounds like the party was actually a lot of fun until she and josslyn got into it. Look, I hate to be the pregnancy police, but it worries me that kristina got so worked up. Carly: I am so happy and thrilled to be back with the best team in the business. I mean, you guys are the reason the metro court had a five-star rating and was considered the finest hotel in western new york. And you’re gonna be the reason we get that fifth star back, right?

[ Applause ]

[ Laughing ] Oh! I could it always tell how much you love the metro court. Oh! Even on your tough days, it always puts a smile on your face whenever you talk about it. Congratulations on getting it back. Thank you. I really missed this place, you know? I bet. Yeah. It’s so sudden, though. What happened to nina?

[ Knock on door ] Much as I wish you weren’t here, since you are, do you have any contacts at highmark stadium? Highmark stadium? Don’t see the bills drafting you anytime soon, so you might want to stick with what you know. I want to do a future crimson cover at the bills stadium. So, anyway, if you would like me to make the deadline for this issue, please take a number and wait. Anywhere. Anywhere. That’s not here. I expect you to make the deadline. I just thought you might want to know I ran into your daughter last night. Put in a good word for you. You saw willow? What exactly did you tell her? Well, I didn’t want her to get suspicious, so I kept it short and sweet, but… just figured you might need a boost after selling your half of the hotel and getting it back into carly’s hands. Well, here’s what’s gonna happen. If I fix it that means you’re out of a job.

[ Knock on door ] Bad time? Uh… no, it’s never a bad time when I see you. Mm, well, you may not feel that way when you see who I found waiting outside.

I can’t imagine trying to run a city and raise a baby at the same time. Yeah. I, uh, never imagined it this way, either. Sometimes I feel like I’m not doing either one of these things very well. I don’t know. For a baby that’s been through so many huge changes, ace looks pretty happy. So you must be doing something right. Oh, thank you for saying that, sweetie. I think I’m lucky that I can work from home whenever I need to. I’m also really lucky that jordan agreed to stay on as deputy mayor ’cause I could not do this without her. Where we going, darling?

[ Laughs ] You know, she’s my stealth weapon at city hall. Well, I think jordan’s probably like that wherever she works. Nobody sees her coming, and then when they do, it’s like, boom, it’s too late, you know?

[ Laughing ] Yes. I think it is true, absolutely true. But still, it’s kind of stressful because I’m trying to get the budget done… yeah. Nanny’s got the day off, and of course today’s the day that ace woke up on the wrong side of the crib and decided he didn’t like cereal at all. Well, maybe it doesn’t have to be that way. Oh, no, it won’t be. As soon as I get the budget done, it’s gonna get a lot easier for me. No, I mean maybe I can help.

[ Laughs ] I’d like it better if the surrogate carrying our baby was at home in bed instead of at a party, getting into a screaming fight with josslyn. A screaming fight? Okay, look, do I wish that kristina had been home in bed by 8:00 P.M. With a bottle of spring water in one hand, prenatal vitamins in the other, and a ruth bader ginsburg lecture streaming from her phone? Yes, that would be great. But it’s not gonna happen. I love the picture you painted, though. But it’s not a realistic picture. Not for saints who aren’t my sister, and that would make kristina miserable, which wouldn’t be good for the baby, either. No, it’d be bad for both of them. And, look, this wasn’t kristina’s fault. I mean, the alcohol was flowing and — wait. Kristina was drinking? No, no, no, no, no, no. Well, just — no. Of course not. Josslyn had been drinking. And after she’d had a couple, she just started going in on kristina about all the terrible things sonny has done. Okay, but are any of the things that josslyn said true? Do you talk about your patients? Fair enough. But kristina is an adult now, okay? She should have some idea about who and what sonny is by now. You would think so. But kristina is better than most at compartmentalizing. She knows he steps across the line every now and again, but the dad that she worships isn’t capable of flat-out cruelty. Look, sonny is not your dad. He’s not my dad. This one is not our problem. This is all kristina, okay? But it isn’T. Not really. Look, I know that it is a little late to bring this up now, but from the moment kristina offered to carry our baby, I’ve dreaded the day that we’d have to deal with sonny being in our lives. So, did sonny throw open his arms and let you run right in there? I have no idea what you’re talking about. It was so generous of you to sell your half the hotel to jason so that he could in turn give it to carly. Surely, sonny saw that selfless act and rewarded you accordingly. Wait. Did sonny not know that he was supposed to do that? I don’t know what sonny knows or what he thinks. Seems to be something missing. Two things, actually. Your wedding and engagement rings. I sold the hotel. I signed the divorce papers. I closed the chapter of my life that had anything to do with sonny. Happy? Good for you. That’s it? Expecting something else? Yeah, I was expecting you actually to leave, but since you’re still here, I assume that you want to gloat. So let’s hear it. And I’m very busy, so can you please give me your best shot, make it fast so I can get back to work? Sorry, I’m drawing a blank. If it’s true that misery loves company, then you and I really are made for each other. Nina’s back where she belongs, behind the desk at crimson. Yeah, that’s so great for crimson. I just know nina really did — she loved running the metro court, so I can’t imagine she gave this up without a fight. Yeah, well, no one forced her to sell. Her choice. Lot of money, though. How did you come up with the financing — okay, I’m gonna stop you right there. I’m not gonna discuss my finances with you. I’m sorry. It’s none of my business. No. It’s not. Yeah. Uh, but, um… my dad bought it back for you, right? No. And he wasn’t happy that I didn’t want him to help me. In fact, it got pretty heated. Really? That doesn’t sound like him. But it does now. Sonny’s always had a temper, but lately it’s gotten worse. He’s more reactive, more volatile. And honestly, ava’s a bad influence. Sonny: Why are you here? I need to speak with you. Yeah, we can talk if it’s about corinthos coffee business. No, it’s a non-business… family matter. Well, the thing is, since now you’re an fbi asset, an fbi asset has no connection to my family. How connected are you to your family these days?

it’s crazy. I — [ Sighs ] I thought I remembered everything, every moment, but, um, since I lost spencer, it seems like more memories come back every day. Yeah, I know what you mean. I hope the good ones outweigh the bad. When it comes to ace, they’re both. I see some of spencer in ace’s face. And spencer loved his little brother. But I also know that I wasn’t as supportive as I should have been. Well, I think that had everything to do with esme and nothing to do with ace. I was on my way to gallery, and I thought I’d pop by to see if there’s anything I can do for you today. Uh… no. I appreciate that. I’ll be fine. Okay. Well, then I’ll see you later tonight.

[ Door closes ] If you’re here to tell me you bought back carly’s half of the metro court to sign it over to her… I already know. And I don’t give a damn, so… what I do know is I can’t trust you and carly anymore. I know what you think about me. But you have a bigger problem. What’s that problem? Someone you still claim to care about. Well, I mean, maybe my dad has been a bit more on edge lately. But that makes perfect sense because of everything he just went through with nina, so… and it’s my dad.

[ Chuckling ] I mean, this is what people do. They exaggerate and they take one little thing that he did and they completely blow it up out of proportion. I was just at brook lynn’s shower, and josslyn was trying to tell me that my dad ordered dex to kill cyrus renault when he was in the hospital and helpless.

[ Sighs ] Kristina, your father and I have been divorced for a while now. I don’t know what he’s doing, and I don’t want to know. But I can tell you there are certain questions you don’t want to ask because you’re not gonna like the answers. What sonny does is his choice and is his responsibility. And if I were you. I’d stay out of it.

This time well, my day just got a lot better. Yeah, mine, too. You know, I’m meeting brook lynn in a few. Why don’t you join us? I’d love it. Oh, I can’T. I can’T. Hey, well, maybe we’ll talk later. I haven’t seen you since I left brook lynn’s shower to attend chase’s bachelor party. I know. Yeah. And we have so much to catch up on. I’ll call you this afternoon, and we can find a time. I just — I want to be able to focus and be with you and talk to you about everything in person. Are you sure? I can reschedule. Oh, no, no, no. Don’t be silly. That’s totally fine. Bye. Mwah. Look, sonny has lived in port charles a long time. He’s got a lot of exes and a lot of kids. I mean, it’s probably six degrees of separation between sonny and everybody in this town, but he isn’t a big presence in all of their lives. My mom had a baby with him, and he isn’t a big presence in hers. But he is in kristina’S. And after this baby is born, she can go on being daddy’s girl, and you and I will be here in our home, with our child. A child we wouldn’t have if it weren’t for my sister. I know. I know. And I’m not trying to sound ungrateful. I hope you don’t feel ungrateful. Or regretful? After andrea lost our child, I was heartbroken. I thought that we would never find another surrogate. And when kristina stepped up and offered, it was the answer to our prayers or at least it was to mine. Mine too. But we can’t forgive her history. And we won’T. But my sister — she’s not just our incubator. She’s also a human being with a job and friends and a life. And no matter what she’s done in her past, kristina would never do anything to endanger our child. That I know. I know that kristina would never mean to do anything even the slightest bit problematic. But running around, defending her dad — I mean, that’s not just emotionally stressful. That — that could be physically dangerous. Look, kristina and sonny have always had a special bond. And I think when she came here, it was just her last-ditch effort to get somebody to tell her that josslyn was wrong and the things that she said weren’t true. But you couldn’t tell her that, could you? Did my best. But I might end up prosecuting the man. I hope it doesn’t come to that. Me too. But it definitely won’t if I am late to court because I will not have a job.

[ Chuckles ] I love you. I love you. I know there was a time that I made spencer feel like that, um, I had to make him choose between me and ace. But it was really about esme. I was just so angry at her that I wanted her out of our lives, but that meant distance from ace. And by pushing spencer away from ace, I was really pushing him away from me. You know, honey, spencer was a very smart young man. He knew how difficult that dynamic was, and I am sure he understood. I hope you’re right. But, um, that got me thinking. Uh, it’s a really great day and it’s a nice day outside. Maybe I can take ace to the park. Oh! If you’re okay with that? I am very okay with that. Yeah? Ace loves to go to the park. Don’t you, sweetheart? Oh, one thing, though. Be forewarned — he’s at a phase where everything he finds he puts in his mouth. Well, I guess that builds up the immune system. I won’t be sorry to see that phase pass.

[ Laughs ] But, honey, are you sure you have time now to do this? Yeah, definitely. I mean, I’m not at the gallery every day, and you’re busy. Uh, well, yes, but, you know, you love working at the gallery, and I wouldn’t want you to give up anything that you love, but… you want to go to the park? Oh, yeah, I do love it. And I love ava. But… she’s really good at what she does and she doesn’t really need me and maybe I could talk to her about changing my schedule and, if it’s okay with you and ace, we can make this a regular thing? [ Sighs ] Well, I don’t know if we’re made for each other, but I think there’s, uh, some part of you that speaks to me and some part of me that speaks to you. Well, all the parts of me are saying, “please leave.” Really? ‘Cause I remember about 45 minutes that we were together that wasn’t, uh, exactly miserable. Well, that moment of weakness — that will never be repeated in this lifetime. Besides, you know, we’ve already reached the heights of not exactly miserable. What more is there to achieve, drew? Total misery? Oh, I think you and I both have already achieved that.

[ Sighs ]

With the schedule looking the way it does, I think a summer drop for the single is likely. What about your wedding? It won’t be a conflict. I promise.

[ Laughs ] Look, once the single drops online, we will decide on a venue and showcase it. And I have lots of ideas, but let me know what you’re thinking, okay? Will do. We’ll invite vips and really make a splash. And we’ll do it here. Really? Not in the city? No. Look, your single is going to be great. And anyone who’s anyone is gonna go wherever they have to, to hear it. Everyone goes to the city. Doing it in port charles is — is — is gonna make it more exclusive, more insider-Y. I ve it. I’m in. You know, you don’t have to prove yourself as a manager to me. I already have total faith in you. Thank you. That’s how I justify the faith — by working hard. Okay, but I saw you at your shower, and you were loving every part of the bride-to-be experience. I mean, don’t you want to embrace it? I am! Yeah, but you’re also taking care of me. I just — I just don’t want you to miss out on anything because you’re having to deal with my stuff. Stuff? You mean career?

[ Laughs ] If we push for a few weeks, my career will survive. And it’s not like I don’t have enough on my plate with all the deception photo shoots. Look, it’s very sweet of you to consider my personal schedule, but I can’t help but wonder if this is less about my wedding and more about whatever’s going on between you and your mom. I hope it’s okay I dropped in. Oh, absolutely. You’re welcome anytime. I ran into carly at the restaurant upstairs. The staff was welcoming her back. Yes, the once and future co-owner. I’m surprised you sold. I thought you really enjoyed owning part of the metro court. I did. I did. But, you know, people change. Their priorities change.

[ Chuckles ] And yours was getting my dad back. When I said that I would do anything to be back with your dad, I meant it. And jason offered to buy my half of the hotel, and I was led to believe that sonny would approve if I sold. It turns out that the opposite was true. What happened? Well, kristina, I just miscalculated in the most damaging way possible. That doesn’t sound like you. Well, we all have our blind spots, don’t we? And ava jerome was mine. Hi. I want your opinion. I just uncrated this one. Oh. What do you think? Uh, well, I’m no expert, but I like it. Yeah. Yeah. I like it, too. I’m taking a bit of a risk on this artist, but I really think they’re gonna hit and make it big. Ah.

[ Chuckles ] Does trina agree? Oh, well, I’ll be sure to ask her. Trina has an excellent eye. Even when she’s, um, not herself. She’s still grieving spencer. I do, too, every time I look at ace. Josslyn is convinced that you intend to eliminate her ex-boyfriend, dex. She’s convinced of a lot of things, and most of the time she’s wrong. Is she wrong about this, sonny? Carly and michael have done everything to make me look bad in her eyes. I guess they got what they wanted. Well, what about kristina? What about kristina? She’s pregnant. She’s carrying molly and tj’s baby. I don’t want her upset. Well, it might be too late for that. Josslyn told kristina that after you beat cyrus nearly to death… …that you ordered dex to finish the job.

Josslyn is just like her mother. She and carly should stay out of things they don’t understand. If anything happens to dex, josslyn’s gonna blame you, and so is kristina. What do you want me to do? Just — just be the man kristina thinks you are. Just leave the kid alone, sonny. The kid is a vet. He knows a lot of things. He’s a liability. Do you underst– if he becomes a cop, yes. Josslyn told me he applied. You were on the inside. You know what the stakes are, don’t you? I know that if dex did not give up anything yet, the odds are he’s not going to. I can’t take that chance!

[ Sighs heavily ] Sonny, you got to think about this. If anything happens to dex, joss, carly, michael — they know that you’re gonna be behind it, and so will kristina. What is that gonna do to kristina? Is that what you want? Kristina: I don’t get it. I — I thought that ava was your best friend. Oh, I did, too. It just — it turns out that she’s just really good at impersonating a best friend. See, I let myself forget something that I learned about ava a long time ago — that when ava jerome wants something, she doesn’t let a simple thing like friendship stand in her way. She wants what I have. Had. My dad. Um, now that the ink is dry on the divorce papers, ava’s exactly where she wants to — down the hall in sonny’s guest room. That is, when she’s not busy running interference and keeping everyone else away. My dad’s not gonna fall for that. Are you sure, kristina? Because I’ve got the divorce papers and ava’s got the room in the penthouse. And she was the one that floated the idea that I should turn in carly and drew into the sec. Now, I take responsibility. I did make the call. But I had help getting there. Ava’s been playing the long game beautifully. And I fell for it hook, line, and sinker. How could you not see spencer and nikolas every time you look at ace? He’s such a cute baby, though. Hopefully that eases a little bit of the pain? Oh, yes, it definitely does. Having ace makes things a lot easier. I think that’s why trina landed on my doorstep today. She wanted to take ace to the park, and I of course said yes. And then, if that went well, she wanted to take care of him on an ongoing basis. Spencer’s gone, and trina wants time with his baby brother, like, um… a last link to the boy she loved? Yeah. It crossed my mind, too. You’ve seen a lot more of her than I have. How does she seem to you? She’s up and down. Although I haven’t seen her too much lately. We’ve been on different schedules. I’m sure that you’ve heard the gossip? I can’t say that I have. Gossip about what? Some very small-minded people are trying to make something tawdry out of my living with sonny. And, really, all sonny is doing is opening his home to me and avery to keep us safe. But, um, I know that I’m getting off track here. We’re talking about trina, and… I know that there are several stages to grief, right? But eventually you have to start living your life again. I’m just not sure that’s what trina is doing. Is it possible that spending time with ace is her way of clinging to the past? The bubbles? Yeah! Tj: Trina. Hi. Tj, how are you? Good, good. I’m on my way to work, so nothing to complain about yet. Oh, well, I don’t think you’ve had the good fortune of meeting mr. Ace cassadine yet. Ace, this is dr. Ashford. Spencer’s little brother. Yeah. Pleasure to meet you, ace. Ace and I are just getting some air, and the mayor’s getting a well-needed break. Well, whatever you’re doing, you’re smiling a lot, and it’s nice to see. And I believe you’re the reason for that.

[ Both laugh ] Okay, we also need to put up the new bottles that just came in before the dinner rush. Okay. So, the rumors are true. Carly spencer’s back in the hotel business. She is, indeed.

[ Both chuckle ] Looks like you hit the ground running. Well, I may or may not have made a list of things I wanted to change if I ever got the metro court back. Well, it’s really good to see you back at the helm. I only wish I could have been the one to make it happen for you. Well, you know, you were always so generous. It — it didn’t feel right accepting. I’m assuming you got a better offer from jason.

Yeah. So, jason didn’t give me an opinion. I found out he bought the metro court when he handed me the signed paperwork. Well, good for him. And good for you for accepting it. I know how much this place means to you. And the only thing that really matters is that you have it back, right? I’m happy for you. Thank you. I’m happy for me, too. Your mother is an excellent business manager. But I just don’t understand what she’s thinking when it comes to your personal life. She says she doesn’t want anything to distract my fans from my music. But the relationship between fans and artists has changed. Social media has created an entrée into artists’ lives, and it’s made fans feel more connected and invested and even more loyal. I mean, it’s a good thing. She hasn’t come right out and said it, but I think my mom is really afraid that my fans will see my being gay as a negative. No offense, but what year does she think it is? It’s hard to know sometimes. Blaze, your fans love you. And this is the music industry. You’re hardly the only gay artist out there. My mom just doesn’t want to risk losing any fan support. Being honest about who you are is just as likely to expand your audience.

[ Sighs ] Oh, god. I’m sorry I got all wound up. Okay, I’m just gonna say one more thing, and then you can tell me to shut up. Are you kidding? I love wound-up brook lynn.

[ Laughs ] Fan base and potential ticket sales aside, don’t you think that being truthful about who you are will only make your life and kristina’s better? Every time I have been at my dad’s place, ava’s there. And let me guess — she’s talking about avery. She’s playing that mom card hard. Actually, avery — avery hasn’t even been there. But do you know that my dad’s drinking again? Yeah, I know, and I hate it. I don’t think he has a problem, but you made it clear that mixing alcohol and his meds was a bad idea. Well, it is. But he’s still taking his meds. That’s good. He’s just taking it with a shot of whiskey now. Well, maybe sonny forgets the risks when ava’s pouring. You know, I think people grieve on their own timetable and in their own way, and I think this is just trina’S. Maybe I should be ashamed to admit it, but when nikolas and I parted ways, I didn’t even turn around to wave. Well, I still feel the loss. But then again, I’m his mother. I’m not the woman who he cheated on, among other things. Among many, many other things. Yeah. I’m a little curious. Have you spoken to him at all? I declined a few calls from pentonville. Have you been in touch with him? Yeah, a little bit. They’re transferring him out of state. Oh, I’m sorry. I know that’ll make visitation very difficult. Yeah. And I know that he did horrible things, but he’ll always be my son. Of course. No, I completely understand. Yeah. And as far as trina goes, I guess we just have to let her find her way through this thing and, uh, be there to support her. Well, I’m fortunate that trina seems to find solace in work. Her extra hours here have been a huge help since sonny and avery need me at home. I thought you weren’t staying — wait a minute. Do you call sonny’s place “home” now? Stay away from my family. Stay away from my business. Sonny, if you have dex killed, you’re not just gonna be facing criminal charges. You’re gonna lose everything. You could lose kristina. Or you’re gonna have to lie to her. And you don’t like being lied to you. Are you prepared to do that? If dex dies and kristina looks you in the face and goes, “dad, did you kill dex?” What are you gonna say? Who are you to judge me? Like you haven’t done what I’ve done. I love kristina, and I love my kids. I’ll protect them. What about you? You disappeared on your sons. You abandoned them for more than two years. You have no right to tell me what to do.

Avery thinks of sonny’s place as home, and I’m glad about that. I would hate for her to feel like a guest at her dad’s, right? And of course sonny wants her to feel at home there, too. Yeah, I get it. I understand. And for obvious reasons, we feel very safe and secure there. And I didn’t realize how much I missed that feeling, since esme broke into wyndemere yeah. Well, I don’t think esme’s gonna be a danger to anyone anymore. No. But there were other incidents — and some having to do with sonny’s business — and he insisted that avery and I stay with him. Well, I’m glad he’s being careful, and I’m sure it’s, uh, nice for avery to be near her dad, but… what about you? What do you want? Yeah, this little guy makes everyone smile. Is it just me, or is he growing really fast? Oh, yeah, he’s definitely a big guy.

[ Chuckles ] No question. Makes me wonder about my own baby. When, uh — when’s kristina due? August. Can’t get here soon enough. Nervous father-to-be? I would be under any circumstance, but kristina has a way of making problems of her own. I mean, I’m grateful to her… mm-hmm. …But her family… look, don’t stress. Follow this guy. You know, stay in the moment and focus on the here and now. What do you say, ace? Trina thinks that you’ve achieved zen. If so, can you please show me how? He’s showing you.

[ Laughs ] I don’t know if my being out would make things easier for kristina and me. Our relationship is still very new, and I want to protect it, at least for a little while. I don’t blame you. So, maybe in a year — a year, five years, or never. It’s your call, not mine, and no one else’s, okay? I just wanted to give you a perspective that wasn’t coming from your mom. I appreciate that. Really. But I think for now, kristina and I are happy with the way things are. Thanks for understanding. When we were together, we just couldn’t get things quite right. But we sure did try. We sure did. Cost us, though, didn’t it? Assets, money, careers. Your freedom. But now we got a — we got a reset. Sort of back to normal. I mean, kind of a new old normal, I guess. Things are back the way they’re supposed to be. Almost. I’m sorry, kristina. Sonny’s not my problem anymore. The divorce is a done deal. If ava wants him, she can have him. Not if I have anything to do with it. Kristina. Kr– kristina, please, wait. Be careful. What do you mean? Well, ava hasn’t survived this long by playing by the rules, and she’s really good at making sure that no one sees it when she breaks them. My dad’s in a very vulnerable place right now because of his breakup with you and because he’s estranged from carly and michael. He used to really rely on them, and now, for whatever reason, he can’T. Ava is living there. She’s avery’s mom. My dad is letting his guard down at a time when he really shouldn’t be. He knows what ava’s capable of. My whole family does. Maybe ava looks at us and she thinks that we’ve forgotten about morgan and about connie falconeri, but we haven’T. Before you lecture me on what to do with kristina, try being a father to jake and danny. Sonny… too many people know that dex worked for you. Any move you make against him is gonna incriminate you. So, please, for your sake for everybody else’s sake, just leave dex alone. Or what?! I’ll have to stop you. You’ll die trying.

I mean, it was really nice of chase to invite me, but it might have been a mistake taking him up on it. Some of the cops got to you, didn’t they? I tried to shrug it off, but, yeah. I think we both might have underestimated how tough it was gonna be for me at the academy and in the department if I even get in. Thinking about giving up? Who is it? It’s your sister. It’s kristina. What’s wrong?

[ Exhales sharply ] What do you think would happen… what? …If a piece of “loot”…

[ Chuckles ] …Accidentally made it in the decorations bag? All hell would break loose! Live and her labeling gene. You know, she gets it from her grandmother. Brook lynn: Hm! Old mrs. Falconeri used to label everything. I’m surprised this kitchen isn’t labeled. “Refrigerator.” “Fruit bowl.” “Tracy.”

[ Laughter ] Yeah, it can be a little much sometimes, but how cute is it that she labeled my gifts “loot”? Thank you so much for tonight, ma. I was half-dreading my bachelorette/ bridal shower, but it turned out to be such a great night. Oh, anything from my girl. It was a great party. But some of your friends can’t hold their liquor. Not like you, huh, granny? Okay. On that note, I’m going to bed. Good night! -Night. -Sleep tight!

[ Laughs ] Wow. Tonight really was a blast. I just want to call chase and tell him all about it, but I don’t want to interrupt his party or wake him if he’s already home. Sitter had to leave 20 minutes ago, so hopefully dad and violet are already sleep. Daddy! You have to help grandpa! Hey, sweetheart. Okay.

[ Chuckles ] It’s just that I tell danny not to see his father. And what does he do? He goes straight from school and goes to see his father, and then I tell jason, “please stay away from danny.” And he spends time with him anyway.

[ Sighs ] Yeah. That’s frustrating. Look. Maybe just — I don’t know — take a breath.

[ Breathes deeply ] Jason seems like this stand-up, solid guy, right? But he broke my heart twice — twice — by falling off the face of the earth. And the first time, of course, I know it wasn’t his choice, but the second time, I keep asking him what happened, and he refuses to explain that to me. And that is hard enough for me as an adult to process that. But danny — he’s just a kid. He would be devastated if jason disappeared again. It is a difficult situation. I’m not saying you’re doing anything wrong, but you don’t want danny thinking that he’s doing something wrong by wanting to have a relationship with his dad, right? Well, that — that’s not what I’m doing. Am I? I was at brook lynn’s bridal shower. I was having a great time, and then josslyn comes over, and she just starts blatantly lying about my dad. Lying?

[ Stammers ] She is upset because she and dex broke up, and she blames my dad, of course, because s-she blames him for everything. Okay. What exactly did josslyn say? Josslyn said that my dad ordered dex to kill cyrus renault when he was beaten up and in the hospital. That is totally inappropriate for josslyn to do, especially at brook lynn’s bridal shower. I know. But, um, sonny doesn’t have a reputation for no reason. Molly, I’m not naive. I-I-I know… that my dad is who he is. But to order dex to kill cyrus, a broken-down old man, when he’s in the hospital? My dad just — h-he wouldn’t do that. There’s no way. I just couldn’t help myself. I mean, I just came right out to kristina, and I told her that her beloved father sent dex to kill cyrus.

[ Chuckles ] That shut her up quick. Drink that whole thing. I realize that you — you know you probably don’t know dex. I just figured you had heard his name. Anyway, we are very complicated. Dex and I have not met, but your mom told me a little bit about him. Did she tell you that dex risked his life protecting sonny? And then sonny decided that he was a traitor and turned on him? Listen. Dex is not the kind of guy that would kill someone for money. He’s just not. But sonny had him so screwed up that he — he actually considered finishing killing a man that sonny had already beaten half to death. That’s, uh — that’s dex’s decision. Nobody else can make that one for him. No, it’s not. It’s not dex’s decision. It’s sonny’s orders. And that’s been my problem with kristina because every time I see her, she’s out defending him or saying that he can’t do anything wrong. And I’m just sick of it. I just — I don’t understand how — how she can’t see him for what he really is. How can she be that blind? Because I think most people want to see their parents in a good light. And, uh, maybe you’re not seeing sonny very clearly right now. Chase: We need paramedics to 347 portside road, apartment number 9. My father has als. He’s having trouble breathing. We have the home ventilator, and he’s awake, but he is not moving. Sweetheart? Hey. Can you — can you tell me what happened? Me and grandpa were playing a game, and that’s when he started breathing funny. He told me to go get his machine from his bedroom ’cause he couldn’t get up. Hey. You know, you did great. Alright? I’m so proud of you. Hey, dad? Hey. It’s gonna be okay. Alright? Listen. I’m gonna ask you a few questions, alright? And if you can hear me, you just — you blink once for “yes,” twice for “no.” Are you in any pain? Okay. Good. Good. But you knew something was wrong, and that’s — that’s why you had violet go get your oxygen, right? Alright. Hey. Sweetheart, has — has grandpa been like this for a while, or did it just happen? T-this happens sometimes with people who have als, okay? Yeah. Yeah. And look. You were so brave. But why didn’t you, uh — why didn’t you call your dad when — when you saw this happen? Ma! Hm? Put the seating chart away and go to sleep! You’ve gone over it like a million times. It’s perfect. It was perfect until I found out that your cousin angela and your aunt patty are fighting again, so I had to separate the two of them. Otherwise, there would be a nasty cake-flinging incident, possibly. Anyway — but that’s my story. So why are you still up? Ohh. I’m just too excited. I’m gonna have full-blown insomnia by the time the wedding comes. What was it like for you and dad? Oh, well… as you know, I live in a permanent state of excitement. Of course. Um, but… yeah, I was exactly like you, you know, although our situations were a little different. I mean, I loved my wedding, and I will always love you father, but… ohh. Our situation was different than you and chase. What do you mean? Well, being truthful and keeping promises are not necessarily the quartermaines’ strongest suits. Present company excluded, of course. Of course.

[ Laughs ] But… harrison chase is a different story altogether. I mean, honey… if I could have chosen the perfect husband for you… and you know what? I wanted to do that many times over the years. I would have picked a man exactly like chase. Really, ma? Oh. Yes. I mean, he is sweet… and he’s gorgeous. He’s smart. He protects and serves. And I don’t know if you noticed this yet or not, but he has this beautiful, nice beard going on that not every man can pull off. No, I have noticed, and I agree the beard is so good. So good.

[ Laughs ] Ooh! Ohh! Aww. Hmm… mm. What was that for? I love you, ma. I’m really glad you’re here. Oh. Me too. How’s violet? She’s scared, but she was also exhausted, so she went to sleep. How’s dad? Ventilator’s doing its job. Dad’s — dad’s breathing’s good. Paramedics will be here any minute. Hey. Dad. You just close your eyes and rest if you want, alright? We got you.

[ Exhales sharply ] Finn: Okay. Chase: Hey, finn. Finn: Yeah? Is dad gonna be admitted to the hospital? I don’t know. I would think so. What are we supposed to do? I mean, we can’t get married next week if dad is paralyzed and in the hospital. That’s really between you and brook lynn, bro. Alright? Right now all I can think about is getting dad the help he needs and trying to comfort violet. Where the hell are these paramedics?! Josslyn: Just be honest with me. Do you think I’m a terrible person for saying what I said? No. No, you are not a terrible person. I’m not so sure.

[ Scoffs ] Maybe my mom was right about me. Well, look, your mom is right about a lot of things, but not everything. So, what’d she say? Well, I went off about sonny, and I told her that I didn’t understand how she could still possibly support him after everything. And she told me that all of this hatred that I have for sonny, it’s just poisoning me… and that all of this anger I have, it’s just hurting me. Well, do you think she’s right? I didn’t at the time, but after tonight, yeah, I think that she has a point. I should have never said that to kristina. And the look on her face… it just proved to me that… I can also be very cruel sometimes. I know the academy will be difficult if I even get in. Oh, come on. You know you aced the test. I just didn’t want to get ahead of myself and presume anything. Well, presume. Like, how do you think you’ll do? I plan to work and train and study as hard as possible. I will do whatever it takes to graduate. I just hadn’t taken into account how much resentment the other officers might have towards me because I worked for sonny. There were officers here tonight who clearly turned their backs on me. They don’t want me to join their ranks. Yeah. I’m sorry that happened. I can’t even blame them. Sonny is a mob boss, and I protected him. The other cops are wondering what my angle is here. I was just in this position with sonny, and I am in no rush to put myself back in a position where I’m constantly suspected and undermined by the people around me. Got it. Okay. Well, you know, trust is very important on the force. Your life, quite literally, is in your partner’s hands. So you agree this is gonna be a problem? Yeah. Have you changed your mind about me joining the pcpd? Should I just give up and forget about it? Absolutely not. No. I never said becoming a cop was gonna be easy. But it is certainly worth it.

All  fixed. There will be nocake flinging on my watch. I have — I have been going through the photographs from the shower. Who knew that willow could dance like that?! It’s always the shy ones. Is no one asleep in this house? Actually, I’m parched and I need to hydrate first. And olivia said that ned was already in bed when we got home. Oh! Well, that doesn’t surprise me. Men don’t know how to have fun at a party without shooting something or setting it on fire. I’m so glad I’m a woman. Pfft. I think I might need a glass of warm milk to help me sleep or maybe a glass of schnapps! Ooh! I don’t think schnapps is considered “hydrating.” Yeah, but it’s considered really delicious.

[ Laughter ]

[ Cellphone chimes ] Oh. Who could that be at this hour? Oh. Let’s see. Oh, it’s chase. He says, um, he’s been trying to reach you, but you haven’t been answering your phone, and he wants me to wake you up because he’s on his way over right now. What? I left my phone upstairs. If he’s coming over this late, it must mean something’s really wrong. Thanks, doc. We’ll take it from here. Finn: Okay. I’m gonna wait to see what they say and then I’m gonna go talk to brook lynn. Okay. Gregory: I’m getting feeling back. -Good. -Be careful, dad. Don’t push it.

[ Groans ] I’m okay. I — I don’t know what just happened, but it feels like it’s passing now. That’s great, dad. Okay, look. I’m glad you’re feeling better, but I want the paramedics to take you to G.H. And get you checked out. Absolutely not. What’s an E.R. Doctor gonna tell me that I don’t already know? Feeling a bit better at least? No. Honestly, I just keep sitting here thinking about what josslyn said, and it just makes me more and more upset. And, look — I-it’s common knowledge that my dad beat up cyrus renault on new year’s eve, but that was an extenuating circumstance. And — and cyrus is no angel. Yeah, cyrus is definitely not a great guy, but sonny shouldn’t have attacked him. No. Of course not. No one deserves that. Not even cyrus. I know that. Yeah. I’m glad. But it was a really bad night for my dad. I mean, he had just found out that nina had lied to him, and he was completely reeling from that, so cyrus — he must have done something or said something terrible to provoke my dad to attack him. And cyrus clearly knows that because he’s not pressing charges, so… that’s definitely a possibility. Right. I mean, I know my dad has a temper, but… josslyn just — she’s not right about this. My dad would never order dex to kill cyrus while he was in the hospital. He just — he wouldn’t do that. You know that, right? No, I’m telling you — hatchet throwing was invented in canada by a bunch of friends who got really drunk and bet which of them would be better at. Okay. That sounds completely made-up. Mnh-mnh. It’s true. It’s true. Check it out. Um… aww. That’s a cute picture. Your daughter’s adorable. Thank you. I agree. I mean, I’m biased, but, you know… yeah, she’s amazing. I love her more than anything else in the world. Okay. Can I confess something? Please do. Hatchet throwing is a safe space.

[ Laughs ] I am secretly hoping that tj and molly’s baby’s a girl because I want to buy a ridiculous amount of dresses for her. I don’t want you to take this the wrong way. Um… I don’t see it. See what? You as a grandmother. I mean, you’re just — you’re way too young and vibrant for that work.

[ Laughs ] Bless you. I know that danny was having problems before jason came back, and I understand that that comes with kids that are his age, but I was just hoping that things would get better. And now I don’t know. It’s like — danny can refuse to play by my rules because he has somewhere to go and someone to complain to about them. Yeah, but do you think jason would encourage that kind of thing? All I know is that it’s too dangerous for danny to be around his father right now. It’s why jason and I broke up in the first place. I wanted to keep my kids physically and emotionally safe. I won’t allow the danger that surrounds jason back into our life at our home. I’ve wanted to say what I said to kristina tonight for so long. I mean, it’s been on the tip of my tongue for months. But the second I said it and I saw the look on kristina’s face, I realized I’m not mad at kristina. I’m mad at sonny. And he’s not gonna listen to me. And he doesn’t care what I think. Dex is not working for sonny anymore, right?

[ Scoffs ] No. He went the opposite direction, and he’s becoming a cop. Dex is becoming a cop? Yeah. He applied for the pcpd academy. And I know that I should just be happy for him and — and be happy that he’s going legit and he’s gonna be on the right side of the law this time. But now all I can think about is sonny’s reaction. And I went to anna and I told her how angry sonny’s gonna be and to not let dex into the academy, but she wouldn’t listen to me. Yeah, I mean, sonny could definitely see dex becoming a cop as a threat to him. Yes, he absolutely will. And I’m terrified. I still love dex, and I’m gonna grieve him for the rest of my life if sonny has him killed.

You know, a similar thing happened to me recently, when I was reinstated as commissioner. Some of the — some of the officers, they weren’t all that happy with my past. And, uh, they let me know it. You know? They… made comments, and… some work was slow-walked. I’ve got to say, it was not pleasant. I had no idea. I’m sorry. Well, I mean, it’s not like I didn’t expect it. In all fairness, they had every reason to doubt me. Well, they all seem to respect you now. Yeah. How did you get them to change their minds? Well, I-I had to prove myself. You know? I had to show them that I want exactly the same thing that they do — to protect and serve. And I show them every single day. And I have every confidence that you will be able to do the same and you will succeed in winning over your fellow officers. I appreciate your faith. Originally, I wanted you in my department because of what you know about sonny and his organization. But I have to say I’m very impressed by your commitment. And now I just see a good man who will make a great officer. That really means a lot, having you in my corner. Unfortunately, it’s not gonna do you any good when detective bennet gets ahold of you over at the police academy. Hey. Look who woke up and wanted to see how much better you were doing.

[ Chuckles ] I’m so glad you’re okay, grandpa. Oh, thanks to you. You were so brave getting my machine for me and helping me put it on. I was really scared. Ohh. I’m sorry, honey. I-I didn’t mean to frighten you. But you didn’t panic. You did everything exactly right. You should be so proud of yourself for being such a smart girl. I love you grandpa. Oh, I love you, too, sweetheart. Hmm. Okay. I think it’s time for a certain young lady to get back to bed. Okay. Good night, grandpa. [ Sighs ] So… feeling back to normal in your limbs? I can’t let anything like this happen again. I won’t put violet through that. Okay. Okay. She’s, um — she’s okay. She’s alright. She — she feels better now that she’s seen that you’re better. Maybe so, but I-I saw the panic in her eyes when we were alone. I mean, I’m not —

[ Sighs ] I’m just not gonna be responsible for… doing that to her again. Okay. Hey. We can talk about it some more in the morning. Good. Where did chase go? My dad has done a lot of good, and I am sick and tired of people constantly attacking him! Hey. Hey. But it’s just josslyn. Right?

[ Sighs ] I mean, you know that she hates sonny. You and her have fought about your dad before. So the terrible things that she said couldn’t have been that much of a surprise, right? Yeah, I guess not. And josslyn is not in a position of authority. All she can do is talk. So I know it’s hard, but try not to let her get to you so much. I can’T. Josslyn went too far this time. My dad — he protects his territory. He defends himself. He defends port charles. He doesn’t go after innocent people without provocation. That is not who my dad is. My dad’s als symptoms have been getting worse, but this was by far the scariest health crisis. I-I don’t see how he’s gonna be able to officiate our wedding. That’s okay. We will figure out who else can do it, and we’ll go from there. Okay. The way I see it, we have two options, right? I mean, we could find another officiant. I can — I can call father tom over at st. Anthony’s, see if he can fly up, or we can talk to the pastor here or… or we cancel the wedding. Oh, that — don’t be ridiculous! First of all, another officiant should be a last resort, and there will be no canceling of this wedding. Gregory didn’t want to go to the hospital because he didn’t think it was necessary. He’s gonna be fine the day of the wedding. And you can’t cut the man out of officiating at his own son’s wedding without talking to him first and getting his prognosis!

really didn’t know whatto expect when I found out where this party was taking place, but I had fun tonight. Me too. Got to be honest — I was kind of dreading coming to a bachelor party just ’cause it’s not really where my head’s at right now. Yeah. Events like this are tough so soon after a breakup. That’s true. But it is kind of fun to remember the nice parts of love and to celebrate that. I know. Chase is so happy. He practically glows when he talks about brook lynn. Mm. She’s the same way when she talks about him. It really is — like, I genuinely appreciate the reminder of the excitement that happens in a relationship before somebody gets their heart broken. Ohh! You were so close to saying something positive.

[ Both laugh ] Yeah. I know it’s hard right now, but… you’ll get there eventually. I think maybe I understand a little bit of where danny’s coming from… growing up without a dad. Yeah, I had uncles a-and cousins, and they all tried to do dad stuff with me, but it wasn’t the same. Back then, all I wanted was to know my dad and for him to know me and to be proud of me. I’m glad you and sonny were able to make up for lost time, but… the situations just aren’t the same. Right. That may be the case, but danny’s not a kid anymore. He’s gonna form his own opinion about jason. I mean, unless you think jason would be, you know, manipulating danny, but… no, jason is a lot of things, but manipulative isn’t one of them. You’re not gonna reassure me and tell me that sonny’s not gonna have dex killed?

[ Exhales sharply ] I’m just not close to sonny anymore. And I can’t predict what he’s gonna do. Well — [ Chuckles ] Thank you for not telling me that I’m being too hard on sonny and that I should be grateful for sonny and that he thinks of me like his own daughter — because if I hear that anymore, I’m gonna scream. Well, you get to feel what you feel. How do you feel? It doesn’t hurt you how quickly sonny was to believe that you were the one who shot dante? Do you hate him for turning on you so quickly? No, I-I don’T. I don’t hate sonny. See, that’s what I don’t understand. Because he treated you so badly. And he should have known that you would never hurt dante. And sonny’s always preaching about loyalty, yet he showed no loyalty to you. Doesn’t that make you angry?

[ Breathes deeply ] Sonny’s never been a perfect person. But he’s changed. You know, how he’s acting right now is — is not how he would have acted before. We all want the wedding to go on as planned, but we have to be ready to adjust, so I will call the florist and the caterers in the morning, see what our options are in case your dad is too sick and we have to cancel the wedding. Honey, I could help. -Okay. -Thank you. I know this is the last thing you all were expecting tonight. You either.

[ Cellphone rings ] It’s gregory. Gregory, hi. Are you alright? Yeah, I am. I-I had a little episode earlier tonight, but I’m okay now. Ohh. I’m so glad to hear that. Thank you. Listen. I know my son is there. Yes, he is. He’s right here. Do you want to talk to him? Actually, no. I — [ Groans ] I want you to tell chase something for me. Okay. I’m sure that he and brook lynn are thinking about canceling the wedding. I want you to tell them that I won’t stand for it.

Dad doesn’t deserve this.My dad’s a good person. And he supports everyone in his life, including josslyn. And, yes, I admit — he has been on edge and — and a little harsh lately, but that’s only because he’s so heartbroken about what happened with nina. A-and he’s still trying to wrap his mind around jason coming back and the way that jason came back. So strange. And then on top of that, he has ava living in his penthouse saying god knows what to him. Well, I’m sure it helps to have you. He knows how much you love and support him. Thanks. I hope so. Ugh! Alright.

[ Grunts ] I need to get home, take off my makeup, and take these shoes off, put my feet up, and… maybe listen to those tibetan temple bells you sent me, which are surprisingly relaxing. Okay. Mozart and bach are good, too, played at a very low volume. I think I’m gonna stick to the bells. Thank you. I love you so much. Thank you for being there for me. I refuse to let my illness derail their plans. There’ll be no cancellation of the wedding, and there’ll be no replacing me, either. I’m going to be fine that day, if it kills me. And that’s not a joke. Gregory says the wedding will go on as planned, with him officiating. He is a grown man and he knows his body and he knows what he can handle. You are to stop treating him like a child. It’s disrespectful. Let him make his own decisions. I, uh — I embellished a little to make it sound better. I appreciate that. I plan to be on that altar marrying chase and brook lynn. And if ,god forbid, I have another episode, then someone — you, perhaps — can come up there and read the pages that I’ve written. But everything is going to be fine that day, and no one is going to be happier than me to watch my son and your granddaughter get married. Okay. Chase. You and finn are your father’s greatest achievement. He has been looking forward to this wedding since the day you proposed to brook lynn. He would be devastated if he were not there to officiate. So he’s ready, and he can handle anything that happens — with our help. So you are to honor his wishes because that’s the way it should be. If you love him, you’ll listen to him. Done. Thank you, tracy. What have you decided? You gonna give up becoming a cop because of an uncomfortable night? Not a chance. Good. What you’re setting out to do is important. You know? Societies… they need police officers for a reason — to have safe and livable neighborhoods and cities. You know, it’s an important job. There’s always gonna be a few bullies, no matter how hard we try to get rid of them, but you cannot let them get to you. I’ll do my best. That’s all I can ask. I think you’re going to prove to yourself what kind of a person you are. And you’re gonna do the same to the other officers. Good night. The night really flew by. Um, can i walk you out? Uh, you know what? My rideshare is almost here. And, you know, I was a cop. I can take care of myself. I know. That’s why I want your protection. I mean, it can be dangerous out there at night. Oh, come on.

[ Laughs ] The crazy thing about jason is it’s his openness and — and his honesty that makes him so approachable but such a big threat at the same time. I mean, danny thinks he’s “cool,” that jason “gets” him. And that stings a little bit? Yes, of course, it does! I don’t want to not be the cool parent.

[ Chuckles ] I want to be the fun parent. But, no, I’ve got to tell danny that he’s got to do his homework and — and pick up his room. Yeah, but that — that — what you’re describing — that’s, like, a normal parent/child relationship. I mean, the parent sets the boundaries, and the teenager tests them. Just ask my mom. I know. I know. But jason has no real experience of being danny’s father. He doesn’t know what danny needs yet. And the more time they spend together, I can feel danny pulling back from me, and I don’t want to lose my son. Okay. You’re not gonna lose your son, sam. You and danny are having a rough patch right now. That’s it. He loves you. He’s always gonna love you. That’s not gonna change. Promise. Yeah. I promise. Okay. I’m gonna choose to believe you. Okay. At least for tonight. Okay. That’s good. Can we get out of here? Let’s go. Alright. Alright. Let’s get you back to the dorm. Thank you. I’m not gonna sleep, though. Every time I close my eyes, I have this nightmare that I find dex dead with sonny standing over him, holding a gun, smiling. Yeah, nightmares are the worst. It’s all my fault. I should have never followed dex when he left port charles. I should have just let him go because then he’d be safe and he’d be out of sonny’s reach.

[ Sighs ] Look. I-I may not know dex. But I know you. And the fact that you care about him this much tells me that he’s a good guy, so I’m gonna make you a promise, okay? I’m not gonna let sonny kill dex. I’m gonna watch. I’m gonna listen. I’m gonna keep a close eye on sonny. I know what to look for, and I’m not gonna let it happen. I will keep dex safe. So you can get some sleep. Thank you. That’s not why I came here. Or maybe it was. But just — thank you.
