Except — and I really want you to hear me on this — sam way overstepped when she told harmony to stay away from you. I mean, she just assumed that your friendship would make me uncomfortable. But the real question is, are you into him? I mean, I think so, but it’s hard to tell when all I’m doing is lying to his face. I can see that being an obstacle. I can’t think about austin right now. [ Chuckles ] No, it’s just that, you know, ever since drew came back, sam and i have sort of been… having problems? No, see, that’s the problem. It’s not anything as tangible as that. We just — we had some good momentum going for a while, and then drew came back, and all that kind of stopped. And, you know, we were full-steam ahead for a little while there. But now you’re stuck in neutral. What is the mess in sam’s life now? Okay, maybe “mess” is too harsh. Let’s just say sam seems conflicted. And who can blame her? I mean, torn between two men? Oh. Kristina! I mean, if I were sam and I had to choose between dante and drew, it’d be tough. Both are charming. Both are handsome. Both are sincerely good guys. And drew is scout’s father, so he has that in his favor. But dante has been with sam for months, helping her rebuild after she and jason split. I hope you didn’t share any of this with sam. No, of course not. I mean, none of this is really any of my business, but you’re our mom, so… that’s true. I am your mom. And as such, I get a feeling you’re talking about sam in order to not talk about what you came here to talk about, and I think really, for once, we need to talk about it. [ Laughs ] You don’t need my permission to be friends with someone. It’s not just someone, and you know it. It’s harmony. You’re my daughter, and I love you, and hurting you, that’s clearly not an option. But I need to know how you actually feel about this. So let me give you an example. If you came home and, say, harmony were over for dinner, would that make you uncomfortable? Maybe give me a heads-up just until I get used to it. So, yes, you would be uncomfortable. I don’t know what you want me to say. I want you to say what you really feel. Seeing harmony brings up a lot for me. Everything that happened at dawn of day. How utterly stupid I was. You were not stupid. You were trusting. It’s different. Shiloh was a master manipulator. Intellectually, I know that harmony was just another one of his victims. But you can’t forget what she did. So, when do you go back to amsterdam, tracy? Actually, later today. Oh. And after the next memorial, then what? Well, I have some ideas, and I actually managed to remove a piece of the ice princess that I’m going to use to fund my future endeavors.

All I can say is I want to get to a point where seeing harmony doesn’t bother me. I just don’t think that I’m there yet. Fair enough. Sam told me she stopped you from drinking on new year’s eve. Harmony, not sam. When I was in prison, harmony was there for me when I needed someone to be there for me. Sounds like a good friend. She has been. Then you should hang out with her. I really want you to be sure about this. Are you sure? Shiloh preyed on harmony just like the rest of us. And let’s be real — I certainly wouldn’t want someone holding my past against me, so…permission granted. You deserve a great friend. I have a really great daughter. Mm. So, this austin was the new wingman you were talking about the other day. First, clubbing, now a coffee date. Is there something I should know? Oh, trust me, no. He has eyes for another woman. [ Sighs ] Dare I… ask about peter? He hasn’t relapsed or anything, right? You mean did you end up killing peter with that poison? No, peter’s fine. Enough to be heading back to pentonville tonight, anyway. I wonder if aunt selina will let him get there alive. We are here today to celebrate something really wonderful — the persistence of love. Every couple gets tested. Every couple has problems. It’s how we come through them that matters. Ned and olivia, you have come through yours stronger, more committed, and more in love than ever. Yeah, we have.

[ Chuckles ] Now, I have a sneaky suspicion that you have some things you’d like to say to each other.

I never expected you to be here. Ned invited me. Well, that, I expected. It’s that you decided to come. Yeah. I said no at first, and then I realized that I want to get to know my family. Well, most of them, anyway.

[ Chuckles ] Plus, I knew you’d be here. An added draw? Maybe. Yeah, who am I kidding? Definitely.

[ Both chuckle ] Congratulations! Thank you.

[ Sighs ] I knew you and olivia could find your way back. Well, thank you for believing that, even when I had my doubts. Oh, some couples are just built for the long haul. They bend, but they never break. Edward and lila were like that. So were alan and I, actually. And I think you and olivia fit that pattern. Then we’re in good company. Well, I would ask you how you’re doing, mom, but you’re absolutely glowing. Yeah, you look really beautiful. Thank you. Thank you, honey. I had no idea how official the whole thing would actually feel. I really feel like a new bride all over again. Well, he better treat you right this time, or he’s going to have to answer to me.

[ Chuckles ] This guy, I mean… I know. Right? Honey… I honestly could not love you any more than I do. I love you too, mom. We meet again. You okay? I just needed a breather. We were perfectly civil, and that’s what makes it so awful. You and sonny? Yeah, I mean, there was no screaming, there was no yelling. Clearly, we can be in the same room together. I mean, that should make me happy, right? That’s a pretty low bar for happiness. But that’s where I am these days. You know, just… trying to keep the peace for our family. Well, I’m going to do my part, and I’m gonna stay clear of sonny, just to be safe. Why? Did something happen between you and sonny? My dad was pract icallylevitating, he was so happy. [ Both chuckle ] Why don’t we both get her? Deal. I walked in on sonny and curtis having A… let’s just call it a heated discussion. At the savoy? Yeah, and I tried to intervene, but, man, I just made everything worse.

I’m your friend, sonny. Jason was my friend. You’re just a knock-off, a poor shadow of his brother.

[ Sighs ] Sonny was acting pretty erratic. In what way? And what was he even doing there? He was determined to, um… buy out the club for a night. I told sonny that I needed time, not some big, romantic gesture. But it’s okay. Curtis shut him down. It’s not going to happen. You know sonny. Once he sets his mind on something, it’s really hard to talk him out of it. You haven’t actually said much about your time in spring ridge. It was prison. It was light years better than pentonville, but it was still prison, and while I was paying my debt to society, it was hard, and there were a lot of lonely days. And harmony helped? She did. Because she had also done time in prison, so she could meet me where I was, as an equal. There’s tremendous relief in that kind of shorthand, because I don’t have to explain anything to her. She got me. She knew where I was coming from, and she knew what I would be going through when I got out. I think the most interesting realization for me was that, like you, harmony was shiloh’s victim, and like you, she was desperate for some enlightenment, and he used it. He weaponized it against both of you. But I give her a lot of credit for recognizing her mistakes. She gave testimony against him, and she didn’t do it in exchange for anything. She got no deal. She went to prison. She took her lumps. She did it because she knew it was the right thing to do. Kind of like you pleading guilty? Yeah. Kind of like that. I know you all thought I was out of my mind for doing that, but, you know, she understood why, and it’s nice to be able to be that honest with someone and have someone get you. You know, I mean, isn’t that the essence of a good friendship, to be honest with somebody? Sounds right to me. So, do you think your aunt’s going to try to kill peter again? Look, I don’t know her plans, and I don’t want to. Good. Because you need to focus on being the perfect parolee. Would you care? If you went back to prison? No. If peter died. The world would be a far better place. But I will say this — if peter meets with an accident of some kind, I don’t want gh involved in any way. Get that guy out of my hospital. Amen. I told him it was a bad idea, but he wouldn’t hear it.

[ Sighs ] Okay. You know what? I got to warn carly. Whoa, whoa! Maybe we should stay out of this. Ha. Okay, uh… I just heard something that I think maybe you should know about, uh… sonny’s planning something really big, isn’t he? Apparently, you already heard it. Yeah. Okay. I’m on it. Hey, sonny, can I talk to you for a minute? Yeah, yeah, of course. Privately? Yeah. You can go to the gatehouse. No one’s there. Okay. What do you think that’s about? Based on my mom’s tone? Nothing good.

The surprise was realizing you’re still not listening to me, sonny, and that stops now. Worried about witnesses? Nope. I just wanted a little privacy. You and I have barely had a chance to talk today. Yes, it has been a hectic day, hasn’t it? That was not a criticism. Everybody wanted to wish you well because they love you. I-I’ve never been to paris! Well, I-I’ve never been anywhere, but I’ve especially never been to paris! Well, alright. Start pricing berets.

[ Telephone rings in distance ]

[ Pills rattling ] Leo: Are you sure you want to do that? Wha– am I sure I want to take my medication? Are you sure you want to drink from a public water fountain? Why not? Leo! You can’t walk ahead of me like that. Hey, sonny. Ned. No, leo was just explaining to me that — that it’s dangerous to drink out of a water fountain. I need to know this. Why is it — why can’t you drink out of them? Water fountains are — are sanitized less often than toilets.

[ Laughs ] Okay. Hey. Oh, I am starving. Just gonna whip up something in the kitchen. Do you think trina’s hungry? I’m not sure. She won’t answer. [ Sighs ] Leo’s been playing a video game where he builds cities, so he’s gotten very interested in public works. Public works? Yes, he’s even advising olivia on infrastructure improvements at the metro court. I’m sure she appreciates that.

[ Chuckles ] She says she’ll put it in the budget. Hey, uncle sonny, could I come over to your house soon to play with avery? Uh, leo, you know what? [ Sighs lightly ] You okay? I ran into nina. How’d that go? I hate her. I hate her… and the part that kills me is that your father refuses to acknowledge the amount of pain that she has caused. I mean, how can sonny say that he loves me when he still has room in his heart for someone who hurt us like that? -What am I up to? Wow! -It’s a fair question. It’s not enough that you accused me of orchestrating this weekend to blow up your friendships — which you denied. Do you believe me? I want to. Oh, my god. Which is why I’m asking, what the hell did you hope to achieve with the questions you were asking during the drinking game?

[ Laughs ] A fun night! How was I supposed to know what would hit a nerve? I’m not the one who moved in on my best friend’s crush. No, but you are the one who threw that in joss’ face, even though that’s not what happened. Wasn’t it? Trina seemed to think so before she threw her little tantrum. Trina did not throw a tantrum. Offers to kids with asd, autism spectrum disorder. He loves it. And I’m learning a hell of a lot, too. That’s become our, uh, special father-son time. Seems like you and olivia are… finally getting it right. Well, it’s a work in progress. Like marriage. What does that mean? Well, I hope I’m not overstepping here, but our wives are so close that olivia filled me in on your troubles. And based on what you said to leo earlier, are you and carly back on track? Yeah, yeah, we’re good. Yeah. Especially after what I’ve got planned.

I made my position clear — nina should have paid for what she did and dad shouldn’t have gotten in the way of that. And he told you that he just wanted to put the past behind us. Yeah, maxie conspired with brook lynn to pass louise off as brook lynn and valentin’s child so that you would be convinced your child had been kidnapped and, poof, disappeared into thin air.

[ Door opens ] Peter: Oh, is this an official visit, or are you just stopping by as a concerned friend? Ha ha! No, peter, I’m here to tell you that, uh, you’re gonna be transferred to pentonville now tomorrow. They want to do some more tests, you know, make sure they dot the I’s, cross the t’S. Wait, they already cleared me to go. Right, but what’s a few more hours, right? You got someplace to be?

[ Chuckles ] Here’s my driver’s license. If you check bailey quartermaine’s file, you’ll see I am her father. I’ll be right back. Valentin, I couldn’t help but overhear you with the nurse. What would you want with bailey’s medical records? She’s not your daughter. Well, legally, she still is. For whatever reason, brook lynn hasn’t amended bailey’s birth certificate or medical records. Oh, wow. Makes you wonder, doesn’t it? Wonder what? Well, whether brook lynn is hiding something.

You know, don’t you ever knock? I’m sorry. Tj said that you were on five, and the nurse said you were in this room. She didn’t mention that you would be doing a strip routine. Well, that tends to happen when you’re getting a physical. Physical? Are you okay? Did you have a setback? My blood pressure stabilized, and I passed with flying colors. Oh, good. Which is ironic because if I wasn’t suspended, I’d be cleared from desk duty and I could go back out in the field. But the upside of being suspended, is I get more time with bailey. Isn’t that right, sweetheart? Gosh, you know, you are the best little workout buddy. I have never run so many miles so fast. You know, it’s too bad you’re her father in name only. A girl could get used to having you around. Come on, spence, say something. How is trina? Is she okay? No, she’s not okay. You saw her. She ran out of the room in tears. She won’t even come out of the room. I had to talk to her through the door. The alcohol hit her hard. Oh, the problem was not what was in the mug. It’s ancient history. Why would that bother her now? Maybe it never stopped bothering trina, or maybe she didn’t want to bother you two with that, or maybe trina’s just a drama queen. We had plenty of those in boarding school. I don’t think that trina’s being a drama queen. Okay, I think that she’s legitimately upset. You two must be thrilled. I mean, now you’ve even got spence doubting me. All roads lead to trina. I mean, trina’s got you wrapped around her little finger, and you can’t even see it. Did you hear her? How she’s trying to make this trina’s fault? What is wrong with you? Trina is your friend. She’s given you chance after chance. Why can’t you call esme out for the snake she is?! When you say marshall told you “everything,” what — what exactly do you mean? Well, um, he said that — he said that he got mixed up with some shady characters and he was afraid that they were gonna use his family as a bargaining chip to keep him in line. So marshall decided in order to keep his wife and kid safe that he would disappear and make everyone think that he was dead.

[ Sighs ] Aunt stella, are you okay? I mean, I know it comes as a shock. You have no idea. Marshall didn’t say it in so many words, but… I think my father was in the witness protection program. And you believe that? Are you saying I shouldn’t? You need to keep taking those new pills your doctor prescribed and focus on lowering your blood pressure, and I need to get back to work to finish my shift. My medication is working already. I can feel it. But, uh, why do you sound like the one with a problem? Is there a problem? No problem. The doctor that wrote your new prescription reminded me of something — that there are some dreams, no matter how sweet, that deserve to die. The only place I’m going is a courtroom, and the sooner, the better. My attorney is gonna get all these charges dismissed, and I can move on with my life. Your life? Peter, the only life you’re gonna have is inside a prison. The only question is, is it gonna be in pentonville or steinmauer? No, I fully intend to beat these charges. Oh. And then I plan on doing what everyone, including the pcpd, has failed to do — find my daughter. Okay. And what makes you think you can find louise when no one else has? Well, let’s just say I have some resources that have yet to be tapped into. Yeah? Like what? Well, I could tell you, but… then I’d have to kill you. Are you threatening a police officer now? Are you trying to entrap an innocent man?

[ Chuckles ] Come on, detective. Don’t we have some tests to run to secure my transfer? Or are you gonna run the risk of a charge of police brutality by compromising my recovery? What makes you think brook lynn is hiding something? Well, I’m not the one looking into bailey’s medical records. Think about it. Hang on. Yes? Victor, if I tell you something, can I trust you?

I don’t know what you want me to say, joss. Esme’s my girlfriend. Back at boarding school when I thought that my dad was dead, sh-she stood by me. When we came to port charles, she’s repeatedly had my back. She thought that she was gonna be living at wyndemere, and then when I told her that I decided that we were gonna be at my grandmother’s house, she didn’t complain at all. And you and trina, you’ve — you made it well-known that you don’t like esme. She doesn’t feel accepted by any of my friends. I know that esme has some kind of hold over you, but you have got to wake up. You’ve got to wake up and see all of the hurt that she’s done. If she’s not burning down a car, she’s burning down your friendship with trina. Cameron, what do you think? You’ve always tried to mediate, tried to see esme’s perspective. I can’t believe you have to ask me that. I saw how esme treated trina. The question is, did you? Perfect. I’m not saying you should doubt marshall’s story. It’s just — I-it really surprised me. I’m sorry if this upsets you, okay? But hey, at least now we know why marshall felt it necessary to disappear. But, you know, still, when I try to find out more, like who those guys were and if they’re still a threat, marshall tells me to back off. And it’s funny to me because I was the one that wanted no part of him, and now he’s telling me to lay off. Well, maybe you should do as marshall says and set aside your interrogation for a while. Wait a minute. You are my bible-scripture-quoting auntie who’s always reminding me that the truth shall make you free. So where is it written that marshall gets a pass? Dreams don’t die unless you give up on them. Now, I don’t know you that well, but you don’t strike me as a quitter.

[ Sighs ] See, the — that’s the thing. I thought I knew what kind of treatment you needed, but that wasn’t my place. Your place? Your place was to speak your mind. I’m grateful that you did. [ Chuckles ] I feel horrible for trina, but remember when we got drunk on the haunted star? The only cure for that is to sleep it off, so… I guess for now… it’s just the two of us.

[ Chuckles ] Very close. You know, the more I think about it, this whole getaway was esme’s idea. Yeah, so? So do you think this was her plan all along? To embarrass us and humiliate trina? I mean, I hope not. The funny thing is, is that I always thought esme was so… sure of herself. But after tonight… I mean, I-I realized how insecure and terrified she is of losing spencer. Here’s hoping by the time they’re down from the mountain, spencer’s realized that esme was trying to hurt his friends and he dumps her. You know what? I am tired of talking about esme and spencer. I think we should stop talking altogether. Honestly, until this moment, I-I never suspected marshall was mixed up in — in dirty business. Auntie, I’m not trying to upset you, okay? But now that you know, does that ring any bells? Can you think back 40 years ago… and remember any names or faces that might have been mixed up with marshall? Baby, I wasn’t even there. It’s really easy for young adults — new parents — to, um, lose their sense of faith, you know, with all the responsibility, but you can’t let that happen, for her sake, right? Because she will grow up in a better, safer, kinder world, a world where peter august can’t come back to haunt any of us. Amen to that. Anything to protect bailey. There’s no catch, marty.
