[ Elevator bell dings ] Hey. Hi. What are you doing here? I thought your shift ended a couple hours ago. Oh, it did, but I picked up another one that starts soon. It just made more sense for me to crash here than go all the way back home. Cameron’s with jake and aiden, so… huh. Hey, I, uh… I know the last couple days have been difficult for you. Yeah, my anniversary with franco, followed by the one year anniversary of his death. I don’t want to make any assumptions about how you’re feeling, but is working yourself to death really the answer?

[ Sighs ] I understand. The investors want us to hold off on the ipo until maxie is found. That makes total sense. It would sound too tone-deaf to proceed.

[ Sobs ] Oh, my god. Peter: Don’t you worry, maxie. Port charles, all those people back there standing in our way… that’s all in the past now. We’re going somewhere no one can ever find us.
What’s on your mind? Honestly? Um… I feel like you’ve been avoiding me ever since liam’s funeral. I-I barely see you. And when I do, you know, you got your nose buried in that tablet doing work. And, you know, I understand that that is your way of coping, and the last thing that I want to do is — is get in the way of you healing. And I’m — I’m glad that you’re managing all this so well, but… the truth is… …I’m not. Sorry. I just — I just wanted to pull myself together before I saw mac. Come on. If anyone would understand, it’s mac. You just made a very hard decision. Yeah. Giving maxie’s baby back to brook lynn — it was the right thing to do. It’s the only home that little girl has ever known. I’m a stranger to that baby. I mean, I know that, intellectually. And I’m feeling just a fraction of what maxie must’ve felt for all those months. To not be able to be with the child that you love and not be able to take care of her… I know — I know that that was the right thing to do. But I still wish that I just had some connection to maxie
[Voice breaking] With me right now. Okay.

And the pcpd already pulled prints from it, and they confirmed that it is hers. So, maxie left it there deliberately so her daughter would have something to remember her by. That is so maxie. I know. To be thinking ahead, even in the most impossible situation.
[ Both laugh ] Okay, you hold onto that.
[ Sniffles ] Alright? Yeah.
[ Voice breaking ] And you know that I will stop at nothing to bring maxie home. I do know that. Okay. Thank you. You need me to stick around? No, I’m gonna be fine. I just need a minute. Okay. You got this. Mm-hmm. You’ve been very quiet about where we’re going, and how you’re so confident no one will ever find us. Do you remember me telling you about my time in boarding school? Yeah. You said you were relieved when faison sent you away to school. Right. It was the only place you could really be yourself. Exactly. It was one of the happiest times I can ever remember. Well, until you and louise came along, of course. Most of the students at this academy, they would — they would go home for the summer holidays, and there were a few of us that stuck it out year-round, you know? And the school would send us off to this — oh — beautiful cabin off in the mountains. It was incredible. Anyway, last year, when I felt the walls closing in, I saw the academy was… listing the farm for sale. I arranged to buy it. I mean, not in my name, of course. Virtually untraceable, in fact, in case I ever need to disappear. I wish louise could’ve joined us. But who knows? If this estate is secure enough… we can send for her, maxie. I do appreciate your concern… but it’s none of my business, and if you needed my help, you’d ask for it, right? You’ll have to forgive me. It’s an occupational hazard. I can never stop diagnosing.
[ Chuckles ] You’re not totally wrong. I did have a good cry this morning. But I don’t have the luxury of curling up in a ball. Cameron has been so selfless, such a hands-on big brother over the past year. He deserves a chance to live in the dorms, which means I have to pick up extra shifts so I can afford it. Well, you know, I’ve been, uh, working on my listening skills. I’m actually taking a refresher course at the college, and, um…

So, I-I just wanted to let you know that I’ve asked the pcpd to increase patrols for brook lynn and chase’s protection just in case peter decides to circle back and make another attempt at taking louise. Thank you. Thank you. That’s very kind of you. Yeah. I hate that peter’s still a threat. I mean, I’m relieved the baby is safe with brook lynn and chase, but I hate that it comes at maxie’s expense. Obviously, we’re going after peter now, so… it would never have come to this if I’d just finished him off. I mean, I don’t know what I was expecting. Obviously, peter’s not gonna leave a copy of his travel itinerary. Plus, the police already canvassed the whole area. Yeah, I mean, but, you know, they could miss something. They’re not perfect. Really? Oh, no, no, no. That — that wasn’t a dig against dante. No, I-I understand. I get it. We’re all doing our best. Hey, how’s he holding up? And there’s a caretaker. Modern amenities. You know, it’s well stocked. It’s the best of both worlds. Everything we could possibly need, maxie, to build a life together until louise joins us. And, um, where is this place again? It’s best you don’t know. I mean, it’s for your own protection, trust me. Well, if you can’t tell me where we’re going, I’m not gonna know how long we’ll be in the car. So do you think we could pull over someplace so I could use the restroom? Is this a trick? I’m not gonna run. I know what our deal is. Yeah, I can’t do this anymore. I just — I… okay, listening to victor go about his daily business, it’s odd and exhausting. It’s a small price to pay after what you did. Your vendetta against brook lynn quartermaine is the whole reason maxie’s daughter’s identity was compromised. Consider this your penance. Yeah, you’re right. I would do anything to make it up to maxie. I just wish I could go back and not do the dumb thing that I did. I would do that. Vengeance seldom turns out the way one expects. [ Stammers ] Victor’s talking to someone. He’s talking to two people. Victor: Drew cain. And my dear niece. What brings the two of you down here? We’re trying to find maxie. What brings you down here? Oh, well, I was hoping to offer my financial resources to the authorities, help in the investigation. I thought maybe someone official would still be down here. And why would you offer them money? Well, truth be told, I do feel partially responsible for the horror that peter august has unleashed on us all. Well, there’s a good reason for that. You actually are responsible. Yes. Well, in retrospect, I do see that my dealings with peter were a bad mistake. And to that end, I have been making some small amends. I’ve, um — I’ve been reaching out to nikolas and spencer over the last few months, but I’m afraid our family’s still badly broken. And I left some phone calls for you, which you haven’t returned. Mm. I’m beginning to think you and your sisters don’t really want to get to know me. Wow, maybe you should be the P.I., Because you are right on the money. Um…I can only guess this was part of the tarot card deck that peter used to condition you. Ah. Uh, you should probably keep hold of that, just in case some unsavory character tries to take advantage of your conditioning. Mm, it’s not as simple as just grabbing and flashing some random card, but you should probably know that, considering that faison and helena kept me stashed at a clinic that you ran. Oh, I was always very prudent not to dig too deeply into what helena cassadine was up to with her various projects. But you, uh… it’s a pity you didn’t take advantage of your conditioning yourself, maybe gain access to some of those memories that have been out of reach. Wait a minute. You don’t expect us to believe this B.S., Do you? Sam, just… what? Want to give me just a few minutes with him, please? Are you sure? Yeah. [ Sighs ] Start anywhere. Come on. It’s me you’re talking to. Well, the — the search for peter and maxie is going to be grueling, but peter’s options are dwindling, and he’s going to make a mistake, if he hasn’t already. And my job is to be there when he makes that mistake so that I can pick up his trail. And I-I’ve got to… I got to end this, you know. I got to end this whole thing.
[ Sighs ] That all sounds great, really…great, but… …I was asking, how are you holding up? Oh, me? Mm. I don’t know. I mean, I’m alone.
[ Chuckles ] But I’m — I’m not lonely. Peter: Maxie, I’m right out here. I’m sorry to be standing guard at the door, but we can’t be too careful. No, we can’T.
[ Sighs ] Don’t worry. I won’t be long. Robert warned me over and over about peter. All this could have been avoided if I just believed him.
[ Monitor beeping ] Well, I didn’t see peter for who he was, either. As long as maxie was telling me that she was happy, I wanted to believe that. I wanted to make up for all the time that I didn’t spend with her and georgie when they were young. I willingly ignored the red flags. But I am done turning a blind eye, and I will never let anyone hurt my family like this again. Hey. Neither will I.
[ Woman speaking german ]
[ Peter speaking german ]
[ Sighs ] All set! I’m coming out now.
Elizabeth, I almost forgot. Someone sent this to the hospital. It’s addressed to you. Thank you. I do want to be there for you, brando. I never meant to make you feel otherwise. But if I stop moving forward, I’m afraid I’ll never start moving again. And you’re, uh… you’re a-avoiding me because I’m a reminder of what you lost? You flashed that tarot card and you were hoping to activate my conditioning. Well, guess what. Jason and britt watched peter use it to control me. And you thought you’d do the same. But you literally drew the wrong card. Don’t be ridiculous. I just showed you a playing card. Nothing magic in that, right?
[ Inhales sharply ] Look. You stay away from me, you stay away from my family, from sam, from maxie, from all of us. Do you understand that? Oh, message received and understood. I’m not gonna lie — there are times when I come home at night and I — I really miss finding you with your head buried in a medical tome somewhere, and…
[ Chuckles ] …And violet with her whole tea set all laid out, just waiting. The three of us together, you know, that was a really lovely time in my life. It was really nice. Ours, too. Good. I have to say, though, you know, I used to have this underlying tension, just like, uh… I felt like I was running to stand still, because I wanted to give you and violet all my love and attention, but then still reserve a little emotional bandwidth so I could do my work. But there were times that I just… I was really stretched thin and I — and I… I couldn’t give you both what you needed. You did the best you could. No. Sometimes my best wasn’t good enough. I know that. And I’m sorry. But, you know, the upside of being alone is that I do get to devote all of my time to finding peter and bringing maxie home, while not worrying that I’m — I’m neglecting you. Both of you. There’s A… there’s a kind of… odd satisfaction, isn’t there, in just pouring yourself into what you do well. It’s kind of like… …finding your power, in a way. Mm. Oh, god, finn. We both know that I’m a terrible muddle at relationships.
[ Laughs ] But I think that I’m a damn good spy. You are. And I’m going to use all of my expertise to… to just… clear up this mess that I’ve made here. Hey, don’t do that to yourself. Peter’s mess is his, and no one else’S. No. This all started because I believed in his redemption, and that was… no one can blame you for wanting peter to be better than he is. Well, you didn’T. I mean, you always had misgivings about him, and I should have listened to them. You know, we would be in a very different position if I had. Well, you know, even a broken clock is right twice a day.
[ Laughing ] I don’t even know what means. Well, in the analogy, I’m the broken clock.
[ Laughs ] But you… you know, your instincts… your instincts over the years have saved a lot of people’s lives. Don’t you ever forget that. Thank you. Yeah. That’s very sweet, to say that. You and elizabeth, how — how — how is it?

[ Cellphone ringing ] Uh, who’s calling me internationally? Hello? Uh, is this anna? Yes. Who is this? Uh, I’m in a ladies restroom in, um — in a rest stop, uh, near st. Gallen in switzerland. Some woman, uh, left a message to call you — ah, that she needs help. And she left an earring. Oh, god. Maxie!
Your daughter is bloody brilliant! You heard from maxie? No. Do you have that earring? Yeah, I have it right here. This was found in a rest stop in switzerland. Maxie’s earring. We found her. We found maxie.
[ Laughs ] Maxie, I’m sorry I-if I was hovering on you back at the rest stop. I just… we can’t take any chances, you know? I mean, I can’t have you trying to — well, not “escape,” you’re not my prisoner, but I — let’s just say I didn’t want you to… leave, you know, without saying goodbye. Yeah, I-I get it. Good. I’m glad my doubts were unfounded. I mean, the only reason I agreed to leave louise behind is because you promised that we’d spend the rest of our lives together. And here we are. Together again. Apparently, someone left a message on a mirror in lipstick, and it said, “help, call anna,” with my phone number underneath it, and this earring, which is an exact match for the one that maxie left with bailey. I mean… wow. …Louise. That’s our girl. Maxie’s telling us where to find her. Yeah. Okay, so, what’s the plan? I think we have to approach this from all angles, right? Sam, can you stay here and follow up on the victor connection? Yes, of course. Good. I will book a bureau flight for europe. And I’m going with you. Thank you. I’ll call dante, have him meet us at the airport. Great. Better reserve four seats on that flight. I’m coming with you. I assume you saw that mr. Cain had absolutely no reaction to that tarot card.
[ Sighs ] That sniveling weasel peter august lied again. Clearly, he has no intention of giving me control over drew. If I know what it is that you’re looking for, perhaps I can help. Alright, I suppose you’ve earned my trust. Drew’s memory has been altered. He once knew secrets that he no longer has access to. They’re memories that hold the key to everything. The key to my entire life’s work. What are you doing? Fix the signal! If necessary, contact that computer sprite who fathered georgie. No, I think the signal’s fine. I think that just, you know, something happened to the bug when victor was having that argument. Everything okay over here? Yeah. Everything’s great. We’re just having, you know, one of those normal, day-to-day, whispering, bickering conversations. The mayor might be the perfect person to involve in our undertaking. I don’t know if that’s a compliment or a threat. Depends. It involves a good friend of yours — victor cassadine.
[ Exhales shakily ] Elizabeth. What is it?
I just received this. Okay. “Thinking of you. We’re both thinking of him today — B.” Who’s — who’s b? If I had to guess, I-I would say betsy frank. It’s franco’s adoptive mom. I didn’t know you two stayed in touch. We don’T. Franco hardly had a relationship with her towards the end. Did she come to the funeral? She did. Uh-huh. We barely spoke two words to each other, and she left town the same day. Kind of a strange image for a sympathy card. Right? It’s very macabre. That’s betsy. That’s where franco got it from. [Voice breaking] I love you. I love you, too. I know you like to present yourself as a tough guy. You own a garage. You fought in a war. But let’s be real. You wear your heart on your sleeve way more than I do, and I admire that. But it’s just not how I operate. But I will make sure you never doubt how I feel about you ever again. [ Chuckles ] So, you think a tarot card can activate drew cain’s conditioning? Along with a certain phrase, yes. Okay. Well, we know that peter and victor were working together and that peter was the one who held drew captive for all those years. And now it seems very clear that victor wants something from drew. Right. But what? That is the question. I can’t help but wonder if this is the real reason that victor came back to port charles. Buried deep in cain’s memory is confidential information. Specifically, information as to the location of a long-buried cassadine secret. A secret I’ve been searching for for years. Now we’re just gonna have to find a new way to track that location. I’m ready to assist you in any way you need.
[ Sighs ] Wait a minute. What have we here? I do not think that this is a good idea for you to come with us on this search for maxie and peter. I just don’T. Why not? Brook lynn and chase are looking after louise and spinelli has georgie and james. Well, what about mac? He has robert. Maxie is my daughter. I need to see this through. Yeah, I understand that. But this could get dangerous, you know? I know it’s been a while, but this is not my first rodeo. Look, felicia, if you come with us, then my focus is going to be divided. I can’t look out for you and find your daughter at the same time. You have to trust me on this. Come on. Mac, I was telling felicia that I just think it’s better for her to stay here with you so that I can focus all of our attention on bringing your girl home. I know how badly you want to help maxie, but I think anna’s right. Bring our daughter back. Okay, I really think that we should get going, guys. Peter’s already got such a head start on us, plus the flight to europe’s gonna put us back even more. Okay. Sure. Get better. Thanks. Felicia, I know every bone in your body was telling you to go with anna. Mine was, too. But trust me, this is for the best. You don’t have to worry. I made a choice to be with you, and that’s not changing. I mean, I-I know it may take some time, but… I feel like I’m going to enjoy what’s in my future.
[ Chuckles lightly ] Drew: This is it. That wasn’t fun for me, you know — telling felicia that she would be a liability to us searching for maxie. But I need to know that you won’t be one, either, given what peter was able to do to you in the past. I-I’m gonna tell you what I told jason. If it comes down to it and peter finds a way to activate me for his uses, I trust you, anna, to do what needs to be done. Understood. Let’s go find maxie and put an end to this now.
