THIS STILL NEEDS SOME EDITING!

Mm. Yeah. Yeah, of course. I can swing by after I pick up Rachel from swimming. Oh, I don’t know, in a couple of hours? Yeah, I just have to pick up some supplies and– oh, hey, hey, hey, wait, wait. Can I call you back in a minute? Hey, Alex, Alex. Hi.

Kristen, hi.

Hi. Are you headed over to Titan?

That’s the plan, yeah, after I shower. Why? What do you need?

Well, um, I don’t know. We haven’t talked in a while. And I just was wondering how things were going over there.

Things are going good, you know, just working on creating a more unified brand, you know, clean and mean.

Oh, interesting. And how does Theresa’s latest escapade fit in with that new image that you’re trying to promote? I mean, I can see that, but clean? Hardly.

[laughs]

What are you implying, Kristen?

Oh, come on, Alex. Don’t play dumb with me. I know all about her little relapse.

Yeah, whatever you heard, that’s not–

Not what, true? Come on. Don’t deny it. Brady told me all about it.

Are you kidding me right now? What the hell is wrong–

[dramatic music]

[sighs] Mm.

[laughs] Well, good morning, handsome.

You know, you thought that you wouldn’t sleep, and you seem to have slept pretty well.

Well, last night’s activities, uh, definitely helped relax my mind.

Oh. Well, then, you know, maybe I can relax your mind some more.

Mm, go for it. Oh!

[chuckling]

[phone buzzing]

Yeah, what is it? No, I have not been informed of that. What the hell, man? That was not your decision to make. This is my business, and I’ll run it my way. I’ll deal with you later. Imbeciles. How could they let this happen? Oh, they’ll be damned sorry they did, though. Sons of bitches have no idea what I’m capable of. They’re about to find out.

[radio chatter]

[tense music]

Here. Thought you might need this.

[radio chatter]

How you doing, Goldman?

That’s a first for me, detective.

First time you shot somebody?

First time I’ve ever even discharged my weapon.

Have you released your firearm to the CS unit?

Yes, sir.

OK, good. It’s going to be OK. Why don’t you wait by your car. Phillips will stay with you.

Come on, Goldman.

[sighs]

She’s pretty shaken, huh?

This is bad, Jada. This is really bad.

[soft orchestration] – Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

What the hell is Brady thinking? Brady has no business speaking about Theresa’s personal life to you or anybody else.

So it is true she’s using again?

She’s not using again. She had a slip. Hey, hey! She has made a vow. She is consistently sober now, and it’s going to stay that way from now on. So maybe if you could just like, I don’t know, transform yourself into, like, a half decent human being for like a split second, maybe then you would recognize that she’s facing struggles. And you can leave her in peace.

Aw.

[laughs] Sorry. Look, I do feel for Theresa. Look, no, after all, we are both card-carrying members of the Brady Black baby mama club connected to the guy from here to eternity.

Please, don’t– don’t remind me.

Oh, come on, Alex. Brady is always going to be a part of Theresa’s life just like he’s going to be a part of mine. And it is very understandable why he talked to me about that situation. He’s worried about her.

Well, he’s worried about Tate.

Oh, no, not just Tate. I mean, don’t you get a sense of their strong connection?

I suppose I do, yeah. It has been made abundantly clear to me just how strong their little bond is. So yeah, but it’s out of necessity.

Oh, out of necessity. Are you sure about that? I mean, are you sure that there is nothing else going on between the two of them? Hm? Hm.

You bring me so much joy, Abraham. I’m so grateful that we get to be together like this again.

Have I told you lately how much I appreciate your patience of me, your understanding?

Oh. Well, we don’t have to rush anything. And the memories, they’ll come back. I know they will. In the meantime, we have the privilege of creating new ones.

Beautiful new ones. Perfect new ones.

[laughs] Oh. Mm.

But this was a good bust, right?

Yeah, I mean, in terms of drugs off the streets, it’s a great bust but–

I know we needed that dealer alive. I’m going to go check on Officer Goldman.

OK.

Talk to him.

Uh-huh.

How did this go so wrong, Rafe? This is the dealer with a direct connection to Clyde.

I know, Harris. But look on the bright side. We got kilos of drugs off the street. That’s a huge win.

There’s always going to be more drugs. We need the source.

[sighs] If only Goldman had–

No, no, no, no. This piece of trash pointed a gun at her, OK? It was a split-second decision– her life or his.

No, I understand that. But with this guy, Clyde would be off the street for good.

OK. But that’s fine. We’re going to get to Weston one– what the hell are you two doing here?

We’re just here to collect information, Commissioner.

Yeah, well, that’s not OK, Chad. This is an active crime scene. Besides that, how the hell did you get here so fast? This bust wasn’t on the radio.

I called them.

You what? Why?

To buy us some extra time to get to this bust before the Lucas story is published.

What? The Lucas story? What the hell’s a Lucas story?

Lucas Horton is a confidential informant for Salem PD. Put his life on the line to stop Clyde Weston’s hold on this city. That’s the story we’re going to tell.

When I was brought up to speed, the only thing I could do was negotiate the delay in publishing it in exchange for the scoop on the bust.

What the hell were you thinking, Harris? This is months and months of investigation. It could potentially all go up in smoke. What the hell made you think that this was the right call?

I’m not the one who made the call.

OK. Who made the call?

Look, I’m sorry. Lucas reached out to us unbeknownst to Detective Michaels.

Look, we’re all on the same team here, Commissioner, OK? We all want drugs out of Salem, and now we actually have an opportunity to move the needle in the right direction by working together.

Huh.

What do you say, Commissioner? We have to print the story with or without your statement.

OK, let’s get this over with then.

Great. You’re not going to regret this.

OK.

Commissioner Rafe Fernandez, can you tell us about the drug bust that occurred today here on Kingston Road?

Good morning. Today, we were successful in removing over kilos of dangerous drugs from the streets during a warehouse drug bust just on the edge of town and thus cutting off the pipeline of these highly addictive and dangerous drugs.

Can you tell us specifically what drugs were confiscated?

Well, that investigation is still ongoing, although I will say they are probably street drugs laced with opiates. I will say this, however. A bust of this magnitude sends a clear message that we are not going to stop until we reclaim our city from those who seek to profit only from misery and death.

Can you tell us, were there any injuries or fatalities in the raid?

[tense music]

Yeah, unfortunately, one of our officers was involved with a– a shooting. And, um, the deceased is an alleged drug dealer, although that investigation as well is still ongoing, and there will be a separate report released.

[sighs] We good now?

Good as gold. We’ll, uh– we’ll get out of your way now. Thank you.

[chatter]

Well, today the police made a major dent in the drug trade in Salem.

Red letter day indeed.

Now the real work begins.

Look, I am not trying to upset you, Alex. I know that you and Theresa are a thing, and, uh, I just hate to see you deluding yourself. Yeah. Look, those two are recovering addicts. And it’s like they’ve been to war together. And they share the battle wounds, and those wounds are very, very bonding. It’s kind of like Brady and my relationship, actually.

Are you kidding me right now? From what I see, you and Brady practically despise each other.

Affairs of the heart are very deceiving. And like Theresa and Brady, we’re forever connected and not just because we went through hell and back, but because of our child.

Your child?

Mm-hmm.

The one that you recently just got sole custody over and basically deprived her father from being a part of her life? And you think you and Brady have a strong connection?

Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me? I did not deprive Brady of being part of Rachel’s life. I was given sole custody because he threatened me with a gun in the presence of our daughter.

And I agree with you. That was not a smart move on Brady’s part.

Yeah, you think it would–

But did you have to go to such extreme measures?

Oh, and what the hell would you have done?

Not got the cops involved.

Oh, so I take it Brady didn’t tell you the whole story.

What’s the whole story?

Uh, it wasn’t me who called the cops. It was Rachel.

[radio chatter]

OK. So let’s go over exactly what went down earlier. You were with Officer Goldman when you entered the warehouse from the south side, correct?

Yep.

Did you notice anything unusual?

Not at first, but then I saw something flash from the corner of my eye.

What kind of flash?

I’m not sure. Next thing I knew, Goldman was taking off after the perp. And then– well, you know the rest.

What exactly did you see?

It’s not what I saw. It’s what I heard– two shots. By the time I caught up with Goldman, dealer was dead.

And Goldman?

She was shaken, definitely in shock. I noted the location of the suspect’s gun before I helped her. Put it on my report.

OK, Phillips. I’d do that now while memory is fresh.

Trust me, this won’t be something I’ll forget.

Neither will Goldman. Let’s go check on her.

[laughs] Well, look who we have here– my old buddy Chad DiMera. Who’s your compadre, Chad?

[suspenseful music]

Your family dynamic’s certainly interesting.

I could say the same about yours, too. I mean, talk about daddy issues.

[clears throat] OK, I’m sorry. Look, changing the subject, let’s just state the obvious. I’m going to state the obvious here, OK? Life is unpredictable, and it is complicated, as are relationships. So my advice to you? Be wary and, uh, don’t give your heart away too quickly.

OK. Well, enough about the subject of me and my heart. Let’s move on to you.

Mm-mm.

Are you seeing anybody?

[laughs] Oh, please, Alex, do– Do you know how dehumanizing those apps are–

Oh.

–the dating apps, right? You swipe left, swipe right. You know, it’s just– I’m just too old school for that.

Oh, well, I would hardly call you old school, but I know what you mean.

[laughs]

What about Brady?

What about Brady?

You ever think about getting back with big old Brady?

[laughs] Oh, come on. Come on. That ship has sailed.

So bring it back to shore, captain. He’s single. You’re single. You don’t have to worry about the little first date weirdness issues. You can just have somebody you know. You know all him. You know his flaws. And from where I’m standing, it’s obvious you still got feelings for the guy. So why not pursue it?

Huh. I know what you’re doing, Alex.

[laughs] You want Brady out of the picture so that you can have Theresa all to yourself.

[scoffs]

[laughs]

[gasps] Oh my Lord! Oh. Oh! With everything going on last night, I plumb forgot to tell you the very exciting news. Chanel and Johnny are getting married.

That’s wonderful.

[laughter] Well, congratulations to the mother of the bride.

Yes, that’s me.

[laughs] Oh, babe, I’m so happy for my baby girl. And you know, the more I see the two of them together, the more convinced I am that they– they’ve got what it takes.

Oh, young love.

Yeah, well, old timers’ love ain’t so bad, either.

Oh, well–

Oh, now, wait a minute. Oh, come on, now. Wait. These distractions have got to just wait now ’cause I’ve got– I got to write this announcement so I can get it in The Spectator ASAP.

Well, so have they set a date?

Indeed they have. They’re getting married on Valentine’s Day.

Well, you have your work cut out for you. So what can I do to help?

Oh, Abraham, you’ve done so much already.

Well, uh, we’re partners, right?

Mm-hmm.

So put me to work.

Well, for now, just tell me that today’s going to be a good day.

Every day with you is a good day, my dear sweet Paulina.

Mm.

[laughs]

[sighs] We’ll get each of the suspects into interrogation. I am guessing they will be up for conversation if they think it means staying out of Statesville.

Yeah, well, their boss isn’t going to be happy about this raid.

Yeah. Speaking of unhappy bosses, really not pleased that you kept me out of the loop on this press situation.

I know, Rafe. I’m sorry. I had to make a quick decision.

Mm-hmm. So Lucas is staying with you at the safe house?

I mean, it’s the best plan I can come up with to make sure that this raid would still go off without a hitch.

Yeah, so there was a hitch?

Yeah, Officer Goldman was a decorated marksman in her academy class.

OK, but there’s a big difference to shooting your gun on the range versus on the job.

[tense music] And now she’s going to have to visit with the department shrink before I can put her back on duty.

OK. We’re going to need all hands on deck. That’s for sure.

Yeah. Once this article comes out in the press, God only knows what the fallout’s gonna be.

Aren’t you going to introduce me to your buddy here, Chad?

Everett Lynch, editor in chief, The Spectator.

Lynch? I don’t recall that name. You must be a– a recent hire.

Fairly recent, yeah. Mr. Weston, we were hoping you might be able to spare some time to speak with us today.

Us? You mean like the two of you?

[laughs] Chad, are you pretending to be a journalist now?

I own The Spectator now, Abigail’s family paper.

I see. One of those, uh, jack of all trades, master of none things, right?

[chuckles] You know, your daddy, Stefano DiMera, he was a force to be reckoned with. But you, son, sorry to say, you’re just a waste of time, kind of like this meeting here.

Mr. Weston, taking pot shots at a man whose wife you brutally murdered, that’s the behavior of someone in a very, very bad mood, which makes sense in your case because you’re obviously having a horrible day.

A horrible day? What the hell you talking about?

[tense music]

Why don’t you enlighten me, Chad? Why am I having a horrible day?

Oh, you, uh– you must not have heard about the raid.

Raid? No, it doesn’t ring a bell.

Well, you have eyes and ears everywhere, don’t you, Clyde? OK, fine, we’ll, uh– we’ll play your game. And we’ll be the first to tell you that there was a very big raid this morning on the edge of town at a warehouse. Kingston Road, I believe?

Mm-hmm.

Yeah. But that doesn’t ring any bells? It was really quite a doozy.

One of the biggest raids in Salem history, from what I heard.

Yeah. How much did the police grab, Everett?

Over kilos, I believe, and still counting the cash when we left.

Well, that’s got to hurt, huh, Clyde?

I don’t know what you’re talking about.

How much does keys go for on the streets? My math is, um– it’s not very good.

Yeah, you know, by my calculation and adjusting for inflation, I’d say probably over a couple mil.

[whistles] A couple mil, huh? A couple mil, that is a lot. That is– that would make me very angry. I’d probably want to make somebody pay. What would you do, Clyde?

[phone buzzing] Do you hear that, Everett?

Yeah, I do. It sounds like a– like a phone on vibrate.

That’s funny because we had– I mean–

Yeah.

Yeah, we had to check our phones in when we– when we got here. Clyde Weston, do you have a contraband phone on you?

[phone beeps] You might want to check your messages.

You know, if I were a betting man, which I’m not, I would bet that it’s probably about the raid and all that lost product.

I bet you’re right. I bet someone is very nervous to have to pass that along. Go ahead. Check your messages, Clyde. It’s just us here. We won’t say anything.

Admit it. You want Brady out of the way so it’s smooth sailing for you and Theresa.

I’m also looking out for what’s best for you, Kristen, and for Rachel. Think about it. No, seriously, how nice would it be for her to have her parents back together again creating a nice family unit?

Well, you don’t give a damn about me and Rachel. Wow, you are really sweating bullets about Brady and Theresa, aren’t you?

Hey. Hey. I admit I have my concerns, OK, only because she’s been leaning on him a little bit more than I expected.

Co-addicts to codependency.

Yeah. Yeah, he’s been hanging around a lot more since the slip.

Yeah. Well, and also, they’re dealing with the fallout of Tate’s arrest and him going to juvie camp.

It’s like two little magnets getting drawn together every time I turn around.

[chuckles] Well, and if you don’t redirect Brady’s attention–

Then my relationship with Theresa is probably doomed.

All right. You know what, Alex, I think I can help you.

[tense music]

How are you doing?

I’m OK.

I wasn’t after my first shooting.

Really? What happened?

It was a domestic violence case when I was working in Seattle. I got a call that this guy was making threats at his ex’s workplace. So I show up. And I thought I had everything under control. Talking to the guy, you know, I’m trying to calm him down, or so I thought. And all of a sudden, he– he pulls a gun out, and he fired. I had no time to think. And there were too many civilians around, and I couldn’t take the chance of someone getting hurt. And that– that was the first time that I discharged my weapon on duty. I can still smell the gunpowder. I can still see the blood.

That’s all I can see–

[shivers] The blood.

You did the right thing, Goldman.

It was a clean shooting.

Yeah. Jada’s right. Based on our initial reporting, you did the right thing, Goldman.

But I took a life, sir.

Yeah.

I’m having a hard time reconciling that I did the right thing.

And it’s only natural that you would feel that way. But at the end of the day, you’ll come to accept that what you did, you did what you had to do. And just know that you are not alone. You will come out of this OK.

[tense music]

What do you think, Everett?

I don’t know. Not really what I expected. Not that tough, really.

Yeah, well, you know what they say. Prison can break some men. Is that what happened to you, Clyde?

What is it you two clowns want from me?

Well, truth is is I don’t even like to hear your name, let alone be in the same room as you. But our job is to tell both sides of the story.

We want to hear your version. We’re giving you a forum to speak your truth.

What the hell are you talking about?

Well, you claim you’re an innocent man, right?

Damn right I’m innocent.

OK. Can you expand on that?

Look, gentlemen, if you’d done your homework, you’d know that I’ve been a model prisoner here in Statesville ever since I started serving time for the brutal murder of Chad’s adorable wife Abigail. I’ll bet you miss her dearly, don’t you, Chad? I can still see her face, so scared and so beautiful, begging me to save her life.

Hey. Stay focused. Stay focused, OK?

[laughs]

[tense music]

Now, I still don’t know why you’re really here.

Because, Clyde, I wanted to see the look on your face when you learned that your empire was crumbling to the ground.

[chuckles] Good luck with that.

I don’t need luck, just facts. And the fact is your reign of terror is coming to an end. And when you lose all of that money and all of that power and everything that goes along with it, I am going to take great satisfaction with telling the world all about it on the front page of my newspaper. And you, Clyde, will be rotting away in prison like the rat that you are, never again to see the light of day.

You said so yourself. If I’m more present in Brady’s life and he’s less present in Theresa’s, then it is a win-win for everyone, right?

Yeah, I still feel like there’s a catch.

No, I mean, we’re just, um, helping them both out.

[laughs] That’s all. I mean, we both want to break the toxic chain between them.

Mm-hmm. But are you sure you’re ready to get back to Brady again?

I don’t know. Time will tell. I mean, it’s hard being hurt over and over and over.

Absolutely.

There’ll always be a place in my heart saved just for him. OK. I think it’s time for me to change things and focus on myself.

I’m liking where this is headed right now, truly.

[laughs]

Wow.

All right. So we are on the same page, right? And if we’re going to achieve the goal that we want, then you and I are going to have to be in communication with each other.

Sure, yeah. I mean, you’re not suggesting we spy and gossip about Theresa and Brady on, like, a regular basis, right?

Let’s not think of it as gossiping. Let’s think of it as intel.

Oh.

[laughs] I mean, the last thing either of us wants is for them to get together.

[humming] Voila!

[chuckling] Engagement announcement complete.

Excellent. Excellent. So what else is on the agenda for today?

Well, I have– I’ve got a conference call in half an hour to go over some details about the geocaching event.

Right.

Then after that, I need to start thinking about my mother of the bride outfit, so maybe a stroll through Saison with my best man?

Oh, it’d be my honor.

[both laughing]

Oh.

[phone ringing]

What is it?

[phone ringing]

University Hospital.

[phone ringing]

Yes, I’m aware. But what if the–

[deep breath] OK. OK. OK. OK. Yes, I understand. Thank you for letting me know.

Paulina, who is it? What’s going on?

That was my oncologist. They got the ultrasound results. The tumor has grown. They don’t want to wait. They’re moving my surgery up to the end of this week.

Then we have a plan.

Oh. But I just thought I’d have a little bit more time to prepare mentally. Oh, I’m going to be fine. I’m going to be fine, Abe. I’m going to be fine.

Yes.

Oh.

[panicked breathing] I got this. I’m going to deal with this. I’m going to deal with this.

[panicked breathing] I just– I know you know who I am. Even though I’m scared, you know, if you know anything about me, you know I’m not going to let my fear overcome me. You know that.

[panicked breathing] I have you. I do have you.

Yes, you have. And we’re going to go through this together. We are a team, remember?

Yeah.

What do you say about spending a little bit more time around Titan?

Oh, Alex, are you offering me a job?

I mean, would it be that far out of left field? You’re more than qualified to join my executive team.

True. I have more than a little experience.

Exactly. And we need somebody like you with your skill set to keep up with the new market trends. I’m telling you, Kristen, I have always seen you as a shrewd businesswoman.

Yeah, well, I’m not the Suzy Homemaker type. Ah, you know, I think, I can make this change.

Yeah?

Yeah.

And you’ll be in closer proximity to Brady.

Interesting proposition. I’ll consider it.

OK. All right. Well, if we’re going to make this little project work, we’re both going to need to contribute in and out of the workplace.

Meaning?

It means that we’re going to have to work at bumping up those visitation rights between Brady and Rachel, building it up to family sleepovers, creating more opportunities for bonding for the family, of course.

Of course.

We got the best motive here, Kristen, truly– happiness– mine, yours, Theresa’s, Brady, but, most importantly, Rachel.

OK, Alex, to happiness.

To happiness.

[laughs]

I think we’re done here. Chad?

Mr. Lynch, I’d like to suggest that you forget anything that you learned here today. It would be best for all parties.

Is that a threat, Clyde?

No. It’s, um, more like a warning from a concerned citizen who would hate to see anything bad happen to those who were close to you back in Salem.

Empty threats will not prevent the truth from coming out, Weston. You’ve had your chance to make a statement. Now it’s time for us to do our job. I’ll make sure you get a copy of the paper.

And when we do finally expose all the horror you’ve inflicted from killing people with tainted drugs to putting the DA’s stepdaughter into a coma, the justice system will make sure you serve two life sentences. You understand me?

Guard!

[ominous music]

It’s time to end this.

Let’s do it.

So close to nailing Weston.

I know. I know.

[sighs] OK, Goldman, walk me through it one more time.

OK. The suspect did not respond to our commands to stop, sir. I pursued. And once we got outside, he turned and fired. I returned fire to ensure that no other individuals would be hurt and– because– I didn’t want to die.

It’s OK. It’s OK. You followed protocol. We’re going to have to come at Weston from another angle.

And soon.

Yeah, soon, because once Clyde finds out about this, all hell is going to break loose. And he’s going to want somebody to pay.

[ Phone ringing ]

[ Chelsea sighs ]

Chelsea: Hello, adam.

Adam: Hi, I’ve given connor’s situation some more thought.

Chelsea: Me too.

Adam: So, how do you want to handle this, do you want to drive there together?

Chelsea: I don’t think we should go.

Adam: What is that supposed to mean?

Chelsea: The last thing he needs right now is you running up there.

Adam: He has to know that he has my support. If you don’t want to go, that’s your decision, but I’m going. I already called him.

Chelsea: You did what? What did you say?

Adam: I left him a voicemail and I told him to call me back. I want to talk to him directly and tell him that I’m on my way.

Chelsea: Adam, just do me a favor, okay? Do not speak to connor or go anywhere until we can discuss this together in person.

Adam: Fine. I’m at society.

Chelsea: Okay, I’ll be there as soon as I can.

[ Chelsea sighs ]

Billy: I take it that was adam and he hasn’t changed his mind.

Chelsea: No, he hasn’t changed his mind, he plans to go straight to the school and yank connor out.

Billy: Just like him. Add fuel to the fire.

Chelsea: I have to stop him.

Billy: I know. I get it. Just do me a favor, okay? Take a breath.

[ Chelsea breathes deeply ] Just enjoy the tea with me for a second. Because we both know if you go hard on adam–

Chelsea: He’ll dig in, and make things worse.

Devon: Well, sharon, we really appreciate all the presentations that your team sent over on how our companies can partner.

Nate: Yes, yes, you’ve done a great job positioning cassidy first technology.

Sharon: Well, thank you. We, uh, put a lot of time into these proposals, and I made it a priority because I really believe that we can do great things with chancellor-winters. Our tech and your content. But I know that pitch decks only go so far, so I wanted to meet in person to see if there’s anything else I can answer for you. Um, are we waiting for billy?

Devon: We’re not, no, just going to be us today, and i think you’ve already addressed our follow-up questions.

Sharon: Great. Well, I hope that means you’re ready to make a deal.

[ Traci sighs ]

Ashley: Ca va?

Traci: Oh, oh, oh.

Ashley: I’m sorry I’m late.

Traci: I’m so glad to see you, I was afraid maybe you had changed your mind about meeting here. I wouldn’t– I wouldn’t blame you, of course. You sure you don’t want to go somewhere else? This place must be very triggering, you know? A constant reminder of the fight with tucker.

Ashley: Well, actually, what’s triggering is being told that my memory’s wrong.

Traci: Yes, very upsetting, I’m sure, um, the possibility that you might have exaggerated tucker’s anger. Memories can be tricky.

Ashley: Yeah, I didn’t exaggerate anything at all. It’s good that I’m back here, so I can remember what happened. What really happened. I can look that– that waiter in the eye, and I know that he’s lying because tucker paid him off. Did I tell you that tucker actually suggested that I come back to this cafe, and question the waiter? Clearly, a setup.

Traci: Well, I certainly wouldn’t put it past tucker to try to pull something like that. It’s what he does.

Ashley: Exactly.

Traci: I do think that we should prepare ourselves for another possibility.

Ashley: And what would that be?

Traci: That he didn’t pay them. That they’re telling the truth.

Did you know…

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by… nothing brings us together like eggland’s best eggs.

Ashley: I can’t believe that you’re actually taking tucker’s side, and giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Traci: I’m not taking tucker’s side, I’m– I’m sure that his– his anger was terrifying. I’m just questioning whether he paid off the staff.

Ashley: Mm-hmm, well, you know that he’s capable of anything and everything, right?

Traci: Agreed, but did he do this particular thing this time?

Ashley: Of course he did, traci. When I called him to confront him, he basically doubled down.

Traci: You called him?

Ashley: Yes. He will do anything at all. He just wants to punish me. He wants to make me pay because I didn’t cut ties with jabot. And he’s such an egomaniac. He’s– he’s threatened by the thought that i could actually love anybody more than him.

Traci: Well, of course that’s absurd, ashley, you have a huge heart. And I am here to help you protect it.

Ashley: It would help me if you would trust that I know what I’m talking about.

Traci: Of course I trust you.

Ashley: Because he’s capable of anything, like I said. He would have no qualms paying off an entire waitstaff, let alone one waiter. His whole life revolves around revenge. That’s what he’s doing. He’s trying to make me think that something’s wrong with me just to get back at me. Well, it’s not going to work! I’m on to him! Sorry. I’m so sorry, I’m ruining this night, aren’t I?

Traci: No. No, it’s fine.

Ashley: I am. We’re in paris. I’m with my sister. I’m not going to let tucker ruin this, too, okay? I’m sorry. Let’s get some wine.

[ Traci laughs ] Garçon?

Devon: I’m glad that you wanted to meet with us in person because I know how easy it is to get distracted by outside concerns. But, uh, I think that we are ready to make some decisions about the deal today. Right, nate?

Nate: Yes, yes. Absolutely. Uh, we’ve run it by lily, but we’re still waiting on billy and jill’s final sign-off.

Sharon: They haven’t agreed?

Devon: They have to the partnership, but we still just need to run by the specific points with them, and I’m very confident we’ll be able to get you the paperwork you need by this afternoon.

Sharon: That would be amazing. I know no deal is really done until the paperwork is signed, but I have to say, I’m optimistic.

Devon: I am, too, I really am, as long as you guys like what we send to you, I don’t see why we can’t get this partnership solidified within the next few weeks.

Sharon: That sounds great. Okay, well, I better get back to the office, and prep my team.

Devon: Yes.

Sharon: This is exciting!

Devon: It’s very exciting. I think this partnership makes perfect sense. Thank you for having that dream.

[ Nate laughing ]

Sharon: Sometimes, our unconscious bubbles up some inspired ideas.

Nate: Well, with any luck, we’ll be sipping on some different bubbles very soon.

Devon: Yes. We’ll be in touch. Have a good rest of your day.

Sharon: You, too.

Devon: Well, congratulations, man, looks like this is the first big deal you’ve landed since being back.

[ Nate clears throat ] What the hell is going on between you and audra?

[ Nate sighs ]

Audra: Are you staring at me to distract from the fact that devon’s over there ignoring you?

Tucker: Is devon here? Ah, there he is. What do you know?

Audra: Yeah, very funny.

Tucker: I only have eyes for you right now.

[ Audra chuckles ]

Audra: Sorry, but this just doesn’t sound like the tucker I know.

Tucker: I’m serious. I feel so close to you right now. Closer than I ever have. Do you not feel the same?

Audra: I– I feel a shift in our dynamic. I just hope it lasts.

Tucker: “A shift in our dynamic,” wow. You’re such a poet, audra. I think you’re still on guard about ashley.

Audra: Oh, god. Yeah, well, I know you very well. And I’m realistic. So, yes, I am on guard.

Tucker: Give me your hand. Give me your hand. I meant what I said upstairs. I choose you in all ways possible. It’s you and me from now on.

Rsv can severely affect

Chelsea: Thank you so much. Yes, that approach makes sense. I will speak to his father and fill him in. Okay. Bye-bye. Oh, see? This is why I love that school.

Billy: They’re on top of things.

Chelsea: Yes, they said they will keep an eye on connor. They will work on getting him back to his sleep schedule, and they’ll make sure he’s eating again because he’s been so upset that he hasn’t been able to think about food.

Billy: That’s good. Just get him back to basics. He’ll be all right.

Chelsea: The way they explained things was really, really helpful, so I just have to make adam understand it’s not the right time to go visit connor. Let’s see if he takes their advice.

Billy: You want me to join you for moral support?

Chelsea: I would love that, but I think that would set adam off even more. Thank you for the tea and the advice.

Billy: Of course.

Sharon: Hey there.

Chelsea: Oh, sharon. Hi. Congrats again on your launch.

Sharon: Thank you. Thank you so much.

Chelsea: I want to hear more about it, but unfortunately, I have to run, I’ll– I’ll see you soon, though. Wish me luck.

Billy: I’ll check in with you later.

Chelsea: Okay.

[ Billy sighs ]

Sharon: So, how are things going?

Billy: Uh, yeah. Everything’s good. Chelsea’s just dealing with some co-parenting issues.

Sharon: Well, I hope connor’s okay.

Billy: I think he’s going to be just fine. Of course, adam is handling it the way you would expect adam to handle it.

Sharon: Is that why, uh, you weren’t at the meeting today with devon and nate?

Billy: What meeting?

Sharon: To finalize the partnership.

Billy: I wasn’t aware there was a meeting. And I don’t have anything in my calendar. Who set this meeting, sharon? Because I assume that I should have been a part of it.

Sharon: Well, I had reached out to devon, but I just assumed you’d be there.

Billy: Yeah, well, nothing’s getting finalized without me, so I assumed I should have been there, too. But I guess devon doesn’t agree.

Sharon: Oh, well, I don’t think it was anything like that. Um, and nothing has been finalized. He said that he’s going to run the numbers by jill and you, and then send them over later.

Billy: And yet no fresh emails, and my phone isn’t ringing.

Sharon: Are you and devon having some kind of a conflict? Because if there’s going to be issues before this partnership even gets off the ground–

Billy: It’s nothing like that. We’re just figuring out how to work together again. That’s all it is.

Sharon: As long as it’s not going to be contentious.

Billy: It’s all about collaboration for me.

Sharon: Uh-huh.

Billy: Look, if I get my feathers ruffled because of a missed meeting, that’s one thing. I just don’t want it to get to my mother, okay? So, I will remind devon that I need to be kept in the loop. Other than that, everything is going to be just great.

Nate: There’s nothing going on between audra and me.

Devon: Then, why do you keep looking over at her?

Nate: She and i worked closely together. I just hate to see her get sucked back into tucker’s drama again. I thought she’d finally shaken him off.

Devon: Yeah, but who cares? She’s a grown woman. And after everything tucker’s done, I’m sure she’s aware of it. And the fact that she’s sitting over there holding his hand should tell you all you need to know about her.

Nate: You may be right.

Devon: I am definitely right. And I would recommend that you steer clear of her. Because she’s nothing but drama. And you don’t need her drawing you back into a place that your family doesn’t want you to be in.

Audra: You’re not really a public display of affection guy.

Tucker: You haven’t pulled your hand away.

Audra: I don’t hate it.

Tucker: Mm.

Audra: But that doesn’t mean you can distract me from business.

Tucker: Ugh.

Audra: So, what happens now?

Tucker: Well, bringing you back changes my original plan, so I’ll have to do some thinking about it.

Audra: Work it out together? It shouldn’t be that hard. After all, I was going to run glissade when your plan was to fold it into jabot. So you must have had a plan when you first asked me to join you. Okay, come here. Look, everything you wanted to have with ashley, you can have with me. Only it will be real. Not some fantasy or unattainable ideal. Hey, if I’m in, I am all the way in. And you claim you are too.

Tucker: 100%. Never doubt that. And I’m glad to be there. But right now, can we just bask in the afterglow? Being us, over a nice lunch, without talking business?

Audra: Yeah, of course. Just remember, you make promises. And I’m going to make sure you remember every single one of them.

Tucker: Yes, ma’am.

[ Tucker sighs ]

Ashley: Sorry about that. Oh, tucker just upsets me.

Traci: I wish that you could see that when you let him do that, you let him win. I really don’t like that you called him. The only way to take back control is to not think about him at all.

Ashley: I was trying to do that, that’s why I came here, was to get closure. Instead, I was just faced with a bunch of tucker’s new lies. I just have to go in another direction.

Traci: Well, I hope that direction includes exorcising him from your thoughts and moving on with your life.

Tucker: I’m done. Goodbye, ashley. Go to hell.

Traci: Ashley? Pain hits fast.

Traci: Ashley. Oh, I knew that coming here was a mistake.

Ashley: I keep thinking about tucker’s version of what happened here and he’s wrong. It did not happen that way.

Traci: Okay, you know what? Why don’t we go get on that jet and go home? We’ve learned all we can here. Why stay the night?

Ashley: Yeah, I’m not ready to give up or go home.

Traci: But what else is there for us to do?

Ashley: If tucker can get the waiter to lie, then maybe I can get him to tell the truth.

Traci: And how are you gonna do that? Offer him your own bribe?

Ashley: Of course not. I could pay him for his time.

Traci: Ashley, any waiter who can be bought by the highest bidder is never going to tell you the truth. I think we have to face the possibility we’ve reached a dead end here.

Ashley: I’m not accepting defeat.

Traci: I wish you wouldn’t think of it as win or lose. How about moving on with your life? Ashley, the waiter lied or he didn’t lie. We’re not going to know unless we hook him up to a lie detector test.

Ashley: Well, I could make the suggestion.

Traci: Please, you’ve got to find a way to let this all go and I will do everything in my power to help you. And so will jack, and so will billy. Come on, let’s just go home.

Ashley: Please.

Traci: Surrounded by people who love you.

Ashley: Stop treating me with kid gloves, please. What, you think I’m going crazy?

Chelsea: Thank you for waiting.

[ Adam clears throat ]

Adam: Mm-hmm, of course. Nothing is more important than our son.

Chelsea: I know how much you love him, adam. And I– I know that’s why you get so, uh, intense.

Adam: Yes, yes, I overreacted when I first heard, I threatened to pull him out of the school, but it’s only because I care about him so much.

Chelsea: We both do. And that’s why we have to do what’s best for connor.

Adam: Agreed.

Chelsea: Okay, uh, well, i spoke to his guidance counselor and the head of the school, and they are going to put some protocols in place. They’re going to make some accommodations. Get him some more tutoring. And, uh, evaluate him to figure out what’s going on. So, it is a long process and when you’re diagnosing a learning difference, it does take time. And, um, it’s very specific. So they think that we should wait until parents weekend to go visit.

Adam: And you made all of these decisions already without me?

Chelsea: Um, no. Actually, I was just getting advice as to what to do here. Um, I just needed their advice as to what to do and make sure and clarify that we should wait before we go visit our son at school.

Adam: You mean you were getting more ammunition to back up your opinion?

Chelsea: I think that creating conflict is probably not a good thing for our son right now is what I’m saying.

Adam: Or, in other words, you think that I’m going to make a scene.

Chelsea: Adam, you just admitted that you overreacted when I told you about this in the first place.

Adam: That’s because I’m playing catch up, responding to partial information.

Chelsea: What are you talking about? I’m here talking to you so we can be on the same page.

Adam: Okay, do I get any input?

Chelsea: Of course you get input.

Adam: Connor called you, you called the school, and now you are making decisions about connor before anybody has consulted me.

Chelsea: If you just listen to me–

Adam: Chelsea, he has two parents. You don’t get to call all the shots.

Nate: You still think I’m one slip away from betraying our family again, after all I’ve done to repair things.

Devon: Well, listen, something caused you to betray us before, right? You didn’t just do it. And I suspect that your weakness has to do with the temptation of wanting more.

Nate: What is that supposed to mean?

Devon: It means that having ambition is fine and great as long as it doesn’t cloud your judgment and lead you to make bad decisions that only serve yourself and not the company that you work for. And victoria was the road to you doing that. And from what I’ve seen, it just– I feel like audra presents that same temptation.

Tucker: You think you’ll ever really trust me?

Audra: You’re the one who taught me to never fully trust anyone. I know you don’t trust me. You suspect I have my own agenda.

Tucker: Yeah. That’s part of the thrill. How alike we are. How we keep each other on our toes.

Audra: Well then, where does that leave us?

Tucker: Hm. In our happy place. Ah. I don’t want you to ever tell me your plan of your own accord. I want to figure it out on my own. It’s much more thrilling for me.

Audra: Look, I’m not sure being constantly suspicious of each other is as romantic as you think it is.

Tucker: Oh, well, what could be more romantic? We thrive on– on mystery, on piecing everything together. And there’s always the chance we could seduce information from each other. I certainly look forward to doing that with you. I look forward to everything with you.

Audra: Salud.

Tucker: Salud. (Vo) if you have graves’ disease,

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

Devon: All right. We should get back to the office so we can get jill and billy to sign off on these numbers and get them to sharon.

Nate: I’m actually surprised billy didn’t show up for this meeting. Was he tied up?

Devon: Uh, no. No he wasn’T. I just figured that you’d been running the numbers and working it, so we’d keep the meeting tight. What?

Nate: I mean, I’m flattered. I’m just wondering how billy would take that.

Devon: I mean, there’s nothing to take. There’s– there’s no reason for the three of us to meet. Sharon didn’t bring her executive team.

Nate: True, but she brought the idea to the two of you in the first place, didn’t she?

Devon: She did. Yeah. But this is just one of many meetings over the course of this partnership, so he’ll be at the next one.

Tucker: Yeah. Devon’s resolve is impressive. He doesn’t even glance my way anymore.

Audra: See? There it is.

Tucker: What?

Audra: I mean, you claim it doesn’t hurt, but you’re not as cold-blooded as you pretend to be.

Tucker: Hey, I– i tried to repair things with him. If he doesn’t want me in his life, I can’t force the issue. Nate, on the other hand, he couldn’t keep his eyes off you. I don’t think he liked, uh, you giving me the time of day. He seemed to hate it.

Audra: Or maybe he just hates you.

[ Tucker laughs ]

Tucker: But he wouldn’t be the first, would he? Nah, he’s obviously got a thing for you. Those, uh, those trysts you said you two were having. Truth?

Audra: Do you really want to know? Wouldn’t that break our rules of engagement, of keeping each other guessing?

Tucker: I think that applies just to business.

Audra: Ah. You’re jealous.

Tucker: Yeah. Maybe a little. He is younger and better looking than me. But I’m still curious as to why he was shooting daggers our way.

Audra: Nate’s just a friend. Yeah, I know you don’t know what those are.

[ Audra laughs ] But friends are protective of each other.

Tucker: And what is nate protecting you from, exactly?

Audra: You.

Tucker: Yeah. Little does he know, I’m putty in your hands.

Audra: Mm. He just wants to make sure you don’t wield any undue influence over me.

Tucker: Mm-hmm. And, uh, just how much influence does nate wield over you?

Audra: Never as much as you.

Adam: Thi– this is why I need to go to the school. And I need to talk to connor and the school staff myself because nobody seems fit to include me.

Chelsea: Oh, okay. I see what this is about. Your ego is bruised because connor called me first. For god’s sake, adam, he’s a kid!

Adam: Yeah, and that’s why he shouldn’t be alone to deal with this, chelsea.

Chelsea: You think I don’t want to run to that school and hug connor so tight and tell him everything’s going to be okay? Of course I do.

Adam: Okay. Then let’s do it.

[ Chelsea scoffs ] Why are you fighting me on this? Why are you acting like this is the worst idea in the world to go reassure our son who is hurting right now? You were the one who told me how upset he was on the phone. Okay, I need to see him, and I need to reassure him that everything is going to be okay.

Chelsea: It’s not about you! Ugh, adam, it’s no– it’s not about you. Put yourself in connor’s shoes. He is struggling. He was just told he needs learning accommodations at a school he was going to because he felt different. So, no, we’re not going. The school says it will make him feel worse, it will put a spotlight on him and that is the last thing he needs.

[ Chelsea sighing ] I’m sorry. I was trying not to lose my cool.

[ Chelsea sighs ]

Adam: No, it’S… you’re– you’re absolutely right. My late father-in-law lit up a room,

Chelsea: You think I’m right?

Adam: So is the school. Turning this into a big deal, making it some– some tragedy is not the way to go. It just kills me to think that he’s beating himself up over this or he’s depressed and he’s overwhelmed. And us not being there, it’s the worst.

Chelsea: But we will be there for him. In the right way, at the right time.

Adam: Thank you.

Chelsea: For going off on you?

Adam: For pushing me to– to see what’s best for connor.

Chelsea: Sometimes, it’s hard to know what that is. Adam, you don’t think I hate the fact that connor sought out this school in the first place because of me?

Adam: What? No, chelsea, no, I’m– I’m not going to let you blame yourself for connor’s issue. Okay, I get that instinct. I do it too. And sally helped me see that. You were right. Yes, I was upset that connor called you first, but it wasn’t because of my ego. It was because I felt like I let him down. If I had just been a better father, you know, hell, if I had– had just been there for him when he was little.

Chelsea: Sally’s right. Connor knows how much you love him. So do I. I have to be honest with you. I’m– I’m surprised to see you come around like this. In the past, you…

Adam: Probably would have dug in and doubled down.

Chelsea: Yeah, exactly.

Adam: I’m working on controlling my less than productive tendencies.

Chelsea: Oh, well look at you.

[ Phone ringing ]

Adam: It’s connor. What do I say? You want to wait? Should I call him back?

Chelsea: Answer it. Let’s talk to him together.

Adam: Connor, buddy. I’m here with your mom.

Billy: Hey.

Devon: Hey, billy.

Billy: So, I heard you had a meeting with sharon about finalizing the partnership.

Devon: Yes, we did. And it went really well, actually. And nate has some numbers to share with you and jill, so we can get them back over to sharon as soon as possible.

Billy: Seems like something I should have been a part of. Sharon agrees, actually. Is there a reason why I was excluded?

Devon: You weren’t excluded on purpose. The meeting just came together quickly and I knew we wanted to keep the ball rolling, so I made it happen. We didn’t sign any contracts or anything like that.

Billy: Well, you can’T. Not without me.

Nate: Uh, billy, if you have any issues with the numbers, uh, we can adjust. Nothing’s been set in stone.

Devon: Yeah, nobody’s making deals behind your back. We told sharon that we have to run all the points by you and jill. And I think you’re going to be really impressed, too, because nate’s done a fantastic job.

Nate: This is going to be an exciting venture. Lots of potential.

Billy: Great. Happy to hear that. So let’s just chalk it up to a scheduling mishap. Make sure it doesn’t happen again. Because this is all about collaboration, right? That’s how we keep chancellor-winters strong.

Devon: Yeah.

Nate: Agreed. Mm-hmm.

Billy: Great. Because I don’t think we’re free of tucker’s threat. So, let’s get this deal done as soon as we can, so we become so big that he can’t mess with us. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a meeting of my own. Give me those numbers when you can, and I’ll get to them. Thanks, guys.

Devon: Yep.

Traci: I swear, I am not implying there is anything wrong with your mental state. I’m just saying, tucker has worked his way into your head. He’s taking up undeserved space there. He’s not worth it.

Ashley: Damn right, he’s not.

Traci: And I really believe that it would just be better for you to move on, surrounded by your family. Staying here in paris, it’s just reminding you of the trauma.

Ashley: Yeah. You’re not wrong. This place has a lot of bad energy. I can’t wait to be rid of it.

Traci: Oh, thank god. Thank god. Let’s go home. I will call the jet.

Ashley: I’m not ready to go. I’m not leaving. To 50 years with my best friend.

Chelsea: Okay, mister. Well, we can’t wait to see you over parents weekend.

Adam: Yeah, you got this. We love you.

Billy: I take it that’s connor. How’s he doing?

Chelsea: Yeah, he sounded good, right?

Adam: Uh, he’s a little shaky, but I think he’s on board with the school’s plan.

Chelsea: Yeah, well, he sounded a lot better than the first time I spoke to him, so…

Billy: Great. Glad to hear that.

Adam: I think he’s relieved that there’s a solution. He seemed to relax a little bit when he realized that other kids deal with similar issues.

Chelsea: Yeah, and we’re going to set up a schedule for video calls so we can check in on him every once in a while.

Adam: Low-key. Not to make it seem like there’s anything wrong.

Chelsea: Yes. Just to show support and tell him how excited we are for our next visit.

Billy: Well, that’s great. Sounds like a very solid plan. I have to say, it’s really nice to see you both in a cooperative space.

Adam: In other words, you think I would revert to form and run up there and blow up?

Billy: In one word, yeah.

Adam: Well, luckily, chelsea helped me see that that was not the way to go.

Chelsea: Actually, I’m the one that went off on adam this time.

Adam: Well, in a good way, for good reason. I assume you know how lucky you are to have her in your life.

Billy: I do indeed.

Nate: Do you agree with billy about tucker still being a threat to the company? I’ve been focused on your personal relationship with tucker. Wasn’t thinking in terms of him coming after chancellor-winters.

Devon: Well, business and… personal, family, are one and the same for tucker, so…

Nate: So, you are worried?

Devon: I mean, I try not to worry about things I can’t control, but I’m not going to let my guard down. The plan is to keep him out of every part of my life, which he’s aware of, but he’s also aware that I’m keeping my eyes out for any moves that he makes.

Nate: I don’t know. I don’t see tucker as an imminent threat to chancellor-winters. He just fired the board at glissade, hired a new group of loyalists. There’s still a lot of damage control to do before he thinks of looking elsewhere.

Devon: Yeah, but his whole life is damage control, which he thrives on. So, I think we all just need to stay on alert.

Nate: Well, you know, if– if tucker is making a move, there could be an advantage to having audra as a friend.

Audra: Ah. Now that we’ve enjoyed our pleasant lunch, how about you tell me what your plans are for next steps at glissade?

Tucker: Patience is not your best attribute, is it?

Audra: Nor yours. Why can’t you just tell me, okay? Why are you stalling?

Tucker: Didn’t we say that keeping each other guessing is more exciting?

Audra: Sure. About the long game. But we’re talking short term. You can’t keep me in the dark, tucker. I need to know if I made a mistake opening up to you.

Tucker: You didn’T. I promise. Wow.

Ashley: I’m going to stay. I need to talk this out with someone.

[ Traci sighs ]

Traci: Okay, if that’s what you want, and that’s what you need, then that is what we will do. I will stay here with you, and I will listen.

Ashley: I want you to go. I need you to go. Please, alone. I’m going to stay here and talk this out with a friend of mine that’s in paris. I need peace of mind right now, more than anything. I need peace of mind.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

ladio, no, listen to me. Somebody tried to take me out on my own private island. And you haven’t found out who it is yet? Okay, listen.[ Knock on door ] I’m gonna give you 24 hours to find out who it is. If not, I’m gonna find a new head of security. Do you understand me?! Hey. Sonny. I can’t believe spencer’s gone. Yeah, I can’t either. Come on in. I’m sorry about spencer. Ah. He was, uh… well, he was one of a kind, right? Yeah. Um, how’s alexis holding up? Mom is doing what she does best and just diving into work.

[ Knock on door ] Come in. Just wanted to let you know that, uh, I’ll be unavailable for the next couple of hours. Okay. I’m taking tracy to a, uh, well, it’s either a late lunch or an early dinner. Whatever it is, it’s in the name of future in-law solidarity. Good. Have fun. Alexis, is everything okay? No, everything is not okay. My nephew, spencer, is dead. I need better… hay! Look at this. T-this is wrong. This is so, so very wrong. It’s coarse. It’s brittle. It’s dry. It’s icky. I know, we tried the artificial hay, but it was reading fake, so I put it back on the truck. Oh, I don’t care. You know what we’re selling? Come on, we’re selling rustic romance, not barnyard reality. I’ll get right on that. Oh, wait. Yes. Um, did martin happen to call for me at the office? No. Ah. Uh, but, you know, I really need for him to know where to find me. I left him a message about the photo shoot. Oh, great. Um, did you leave him all that — the time, the location, and my number, in case, for any reason, he couldn’t reach you. Okay. Thank you. Mm-hmm. Um, so, why are you still standing there? You know what we need? Oh. Giddy up. Go. Giddying up. Yeah. Giddy, giddy. Yahoo. Oh, martin, have you even called? No, not a text. Nothing. Fine. If you’re t gonna call me, then I will call you again and again. Oh, not to worry, lucy. I’m here. Yay. Great. Um, listen, I could really use some good news, so please tell me, how did it go with tracy and the flowers? I don’t know. I haven’t talked to her. That is not good news, is it? Well, I-I can’t get her to just call me. Well, why don’t you call her? Well, that would look desperate. Okay, then you could call her in a non-desperate way. And you need to make it fast, ’cause marty is so annoyed with me, you know? And I can’t really tell him what exactly we’re up to — our plan to take revenge on tracy. So could you please just call tracy and fast? Okay, lucy, take it easy.

[ Sighs ]

[ Line ringing ]

[ Cellphone ringing ]

[ Chuckles ] Unh-unh, scott. You’re gonna have to twist a little bit longer. Hello, martin. Are you okay? Actually, no. You’re gonna have to forgive me, ms. Quartermaine, but at present, I neither have the will nor the patience to entertain any of your constant insinuations about lucy and scott. As I’ve stated ad nauseam, lucy’s past is none of my business. Well, isn’t that just the problem? Lucy never puts the past behind her, and when she gets involved with someone, scott comes sniffing around just like he is now. You know, if you’re gonna ke the accusation, least you could do is provide some evidence. Oh, okay. You want evidence? Well…the other day, when you and lucy had your little public dustup… scott bolted off, abandoned me… to go comfort lucy. O’neill’s in custody. Oh, good. Jordan ashford… meet jagger cates. John, please. I’ve outgrown the old nickname. How do you two know each other? John is a friend of my daughter robin’S. Tell her she owes me an e-mail from six months ago. I-I’ll mention it. So, can you fill us in on this investigation? Well, I’m the special agent in charge, and you two are interfering. My agents told you to stay out of this. You should have listened.

[ Gasps ] Hello, mother. Nikolas. Oh, my god, thank god. Thank god you and ace are alright. Oh, thank god.

[ Voice breaking ] I heard that, spencer… is it true? Yes. Spencer’s gone. W-what happened? Come in. Come in. Spencer went overboard. He was on a ship on the seine. The french authorities weren’t able to find his body, but the evidence suggests that he couldn’t have survived that. Was it esme? Yes. Which means spencer is dead because I took ace. My son is dead because of me.

[ Sobs ]

If you don’t mind my asking, what did the two of you fight about? Actually, I do mind. That is personal. It’s between lucy and myself. Don’t tell me the two of you broke up. No, we did not. I am so sorry to disappoint you. I’m sorry. I’m sorry to see what lucy has done to you. Don’t you get it that scott and lucy cannot stay away from each other? And worse than that, they don’t want to. I don’t know why tracy cooled on me. You know, I thought I was making progress with her, you know? In fact, she even got a little jealous when she saw me paying attention to you and your dandy of a boyfriend. Your little squabble. You mean before you abandoned tracy in the middle of the metro court? Well, I was worried about you. Great. Well, how is being worried about me endearing yourself to tracy? Well, pardon me, lucy, for thinking about your emotional well-being. My emotional well-being is just fine. I am fine. Fine, fine, fine. I mean, it — it — it will be. I know marty is really angry, but I just think I can convince him to work things out with me, you know? Maybe you can. Maybe you can’T. I can, and I will. Is this guy really worth it? Yeah, of course he is. I mean, we’re just hitting a-a rough patch, you know? We — we really are good together. We are. Well, then… I hope you work things out. Do you really? No. I just want you to be happy. I gotta go. I-I gotta go right now. I need — I need to — to find marty now. Right this minute. I’m gonna go look for him. What about the tracy business? Oh, don’t worry. We’ll take care of it. Uh, you stay put. Um, I’ll be right back. Stay. I briefly spoke with trina. She’s broken up. She’s with ava right now. What’s happening with that? How long is ava staying here with you? It’s open-ended. I mean, ava’s is going through a lot right now, and at least we get more time to spend with — with avery. I’m amazed the two of you have been able to coexist this long. Well, you know, avery’s happy with her mother, and that’s what matters. How was the, uh, family vacation on the island? It had its moments. I’m afraid I’ve got to get going. Oh, I didn’t even offer you coffee. Can I — I’m — I’m good. I’m gonna check on my mom at the invader. Okay. Okay, I’ll — I’ll see you at home. Yeah. I love you. I love you, too. Bye, sonny. Uh, you want to tell me what’s really going on? Death is never easy, especially when you’re blindsided. I just can’t believe that spencer’s gone. No, I know, but, uh, it feels like maybe there’s something else happening. You got extra security? Was there some kind of threat? There was an incident on the island. An incident? What do you mean an incident? Somebody almost took me out. Curtis ashford is my ex-husband. He almost died in the shooting. I understand that, but neither of you are law enforcement. Not anymore. You’re not even deputized. So I’m telling you, stop pursuing this.

Or you could deputize us. Oh. Problem solved. That’s not happening. But don’t you understand? Jordan and I were there when curtis was shot. I don’t see how you could expect us to walk away. Because this is an fbi investigation. And curtis ashford’s shooting is only one part of something much… much bigger. We’d all have been much better off if esme had just left town. My nephew would be alive if I didn’t offer her that job. But you gave her a chance to prove herself. And she did. She proved to be a capable assistant. She proved to us all that she was a capable mother. All of that because of your generosity of spirit. No good deed. I don’t believe reaching out to someone else is ever a mistake. Well, it clearly was a mistake, wasn’t it? And now we’re all well down that road to hell that I helped build. Nikolas is god-knows-where with ace and spencer is dead. Ace is finally down for a nap.

[ Sniffles ] I didn’t want your son to see you that upset, nikolas.

[ Sniffles ] You mean my one remaining son. Thank you. I — I wasn’t thinking. It’s okay. You’re in shock. We all are. I thank god that you still have ace. That is something to be really grateful for. It’s so good that you came home. You need to be with your family now. I was afraid you’d slam the door in my face. I suppose I-I maybe should have after everything you put me through. You know that you should never have taken ace, right? I know. And it’s what led to my spencer’s death. Sit down. Please. Please sit down. This is important. Okay. I want you to listen to me. You are not responsibl for spencer’s death. You didn’t do that. Esme did it, okay? Esme was trying to attack trina, and spencer tried to stop her. I know, and he lost his life in the process. I know. I know I didn’t put him in the seine, mother, but my actions did put himin esme’s osshairs. And I-I-I don’t even know how you can look at me right now. You are my son. I love you. I will always love you. I will always be here for you. Always. Thank you.

[ Sniffles ] I know I… I don’t deserve your kindness. Yes, you do. Honey, you do. You did the right thing by coming back here. You’re not gonna stay, are you? I can’T. If I stay, I’ll go to prison. You held a pregnant woman captive for months. Has it occurred to you that maybe you belong in prison? I know it’s what I deserve, but I still have one son who needs me. I-I’m sorry, mother, but — but I have to go. Are you kidding me? If that’s the kind of man you are, if that’s the kind of father you are, he would be better off without you.

Hi. Um, your secretary told me where I could find you. I-I suppose I should be glad that you allowed her to tell me. Well, I needed a little space. And do you still? Yeah. As youish. Um, you know, before I go, I-I just need to say, um… it’s really hard to apologize to you if you won’t answer my phone calls. Honestly, I’m not sure there’s much to say. Oh, come on, for god’s sake. Really, it was just a slip of the tongue. I said I loved you, and I did. Before that moment, during this moment, at this moment, I-I love you. I don’t know what happened, I just panicked. I made a mistake. I think we both know how you meant it. No, pl– please just give me another chance. I don’t understand. Your island is like a fortress. How does someone get that close to you? We’re looking into it, dante. Looking into it? What do you mean? The shooter got away? I don’t want to talk right now. I don’t want any questions or anything. I’m not in the mood. I’m on your side. You know that, right? Well, really? ‘Cause it didn’t seem that way when I was being cuffed… okay. …And you were reading my rights. We already talked about that. You don’t want to be arrested, don’t beat people up in churches. Okay, I’ll take that as good advice. Hey, listen. You’re my father. No matter what, I love you no matter what. And I want to help you if I can. You’re right. You’re right. I-I… I shouldn’t have snapped. It’s just that I don’t know who to trust anymore. What are you saying? This was an inside job? Nikolas: You’re right. My — my taking ace wasn’t the only thing that led to spencer’s death. The loneliness that… led him to being vulnerable to esme in the first place… allowing him and all of you to believe that… that I was dead. Now, w-what kind of father does that to his little boy? Nikolas, this — no, ace is better off without me. Okay, I’m gonna — I’m gonna leave him here with you and kevin where he belongs, and I’m gonna disappear. It’s best if my son never sees me again. That’s not what I meant. You know that. I know, but I’m agreeing with you. I want ace to have a good life. Yes. He deserves to have a good life with his father. Nikolas, if you would just face the mistakes that you made and take responsibility for them, it’s not too late for you to have a good life, too.

I am so, so sorry. I have been distracted. I’ve been so worried about keeping my eyes on tracy and scott. But you got to believe me. It’s — it’s, um — it’s more about tracy, really, than scott. Well, this isn’t about scott. It isn’t? No. Buttercup, it’s about you and me. About us. You’ve been moving away from me little by little, inch by inch, for quite a while now, until finally, when bobbie spencer died, you…wanted to be with somebody else. With him, not me. No, it — it — it’s just because bobbie and scott and i have had a long and complicated, very turbulent history. That’s all. It’s kind of a tired euphemism for a garden variety love triangle, isn’t it? Doesn’t really matter regardless. I mean, whatever the reason is, simple fact is that now, whenever you require solace, your instinct is to turn to scott. That’s got to say something about you and me, doesn’t it? Gregory: Sorry to keep you waiting. Well, that’s okay. Uh, I’ve been kept waiting longer, believe me. I see you found something to keep you occupied.

[ Chuckles ] Those two? Who wouldn’t be curious? Given their expressions, I would imagine they’re discussing the same subject that held me up. What would that be? Uh, you don’t know? Um, I’m not sure how well you knew him, but, uh, martin’s great-nephew, spencer cassadine, was killed in paris. Thank you for coming. Yeah, just tell me what I can do to help. Apparently it’s incumbent on me to have to write spencer’s obituary, and I have no idea where to begin. Ooh, that’s a lot. Um… wow, mom, I don’t know. He had a lot of flair. He did indeed. And if I have to talk about him in the past one more time, I’m gonna lose it. I bet you I can make you smile with one word. No, I bet you can’T. Chupacabra. Chupacabra.

[ Chuckles ] Oh, I forgot about that. And it turned out to be heather webber hiding in the stables. And all along we thought it was spencer ’cause he insisted. Do you remember when spencer went all “phantom of the opera” at the nurses’ ball? Yeah, he dropped those sandbags on cameron, right? And then there was the, um… election tampering, where he sent his chauffeur into the harbor to retrieve the stolen ballot box. Wow. I think that covers the big ticket items from when he was about…10.

[ Both laugh ] Spencer was a dramatic child. Never ceased to amaze me. Damn right. He was a brilliant kid. And he had a lot to offer. And now all we have are memories. Out of professional respect for you both, I’m gonna bring you up to speed on a few things, if only to persuade you that we have this under control so you can let it alone. Got it? By all means. Please. The rifle that was used to shoot curtis ashford is one of a large number of unmarked weapons stolen from the wsb. Other weapons from the same cache have been used in a string of shootings throughout the us. I’m afraid that’s all I can tell you. Oh, come on. Don’t be ridiculous. Come on, anna, you know how much I respect you. And I’m aware of your exemplary record as police commissioner of port charles. Thank you. But again, neither of you are currently law enforcement. I can’t have you conducting your own investigation. Of course you can’T. Thank you for understanding. So bring us in. We can work together. No, it is too late for me. I made all the wrong choices. And in the process… I lost my son. But ace is still here. Instead of giving him up, do what it takes to deserve a place in his life. By going to prison. You have got to make this right, nikolas. You have to. You have to fix what you can. And you have to atone for the rest of it. I’m sorry, but it’s the only way. It’s the only way that you can go back to being the good man that you were. I don’t know if I can do that. You’ve got to try. For ace’s sake, you’ve got to, please. Please, nikolas. We’ve just lost spencer. Don’t make me lose you again, too.

You really still have faith in me? Always. Even if I was to run away today. That would break my heart. But I would still hold out hope that you would one day find the strength to come back, to be a good father to the child you have left. Hm. I’m amazed you think I have any strength. I know you do. Because I saw it in spencer. And he got it from you.

[ Sobs ] Come on now.

[ Sobbing ] Come on now. Thanks for letting me know. Your superiors need a little bit more convincing before they bring us in? Actually, I’ve just been informed that you two have blown my best lead. How could we possib– mr. O’neill. The gun dealer you met with tonight in your little citizens’ stinoperation. He was supplying the unsub with weapons. Well, he has just lawyered up and is refusing to talk without the promise of full immunity, which my boss will not sign off on. So thanks so much for your help. I am sorry about that. You being sorry doesn’t do me a lot of good right now. If you really want to help, tell me all about the meeting with the dealer. Did you get anything useful from him? I have been different since bobbie died, you know. Her death affected me in… ways I never even considered. You know, losing a loved one will do that to you.

[ Chuckles ] Don’t you see? That’s just it. We didn’t love e– I mean, we didn’t even like each other. I think probably sometimes we — well, maybe hates too strong of a word, but we certainly never got along. And it — it wasn’t just because of scott. There were so many other reasons. Well, one way or another, she was important to you. I-I — she was. Think about it. I mean, you saw each other at your best, but over the years, you got to know each other… intimately at your worst, and that forms some kind of bond. I guess I never really thought about it that way, but… yeah. Yes. Now…you lose that person, that bond gets broken. All of a sudden, you look at your life with a new sense that… time really is short. That it’s precious. You get to realize the importance of… letting go of something when it just… isn’t working anymore. And we’re not working. I’m sorry to be the one to tell you. I didn’t realize you and spencer were close. Well, we weren’t close. I-I hardly knew him. Well, I-I don’t know all the details, but apparently esme prince was involved. She’s also missing and presumed dead. That is all a tragedy. How’s alexis? Grieving. I’m sure. And blaming herself. For what? For taking a chance on esme. I believe esme was making a sincere effort to be a better person, and she was proving to be an excellent mother, much to everyone’s surprise, so… I mourn the loss of the person that she could have been if her father hadn’t manipulated her feelings, turning her into a bitter, angry young woman. The shooter knew the layout and security so well that he got past the guards. He even knocked one guard out. Well, now I can see why you think it was someone from within your organization. You got any ideas? Not yet. But we’ll see. What next, detective? We question suspects. You mean the people that are closest to me? Everyone. We question everyone, no matter how much it hurts. Everyone is guilty until proven otherwise.

Alright, so how do we distill “the best of spencer cassadine” in 450 words? Mom, I think you just focus on the positive. So we leave out his teenage crime spree. I think we focused on what made spencer spencer. His love for drama, obviously. Of all kinds. Yes. How about his love for horseback riding? His quick wit. Both in quips and schemes. His resiliency. You knowspencer acting all shallow and spoiled when he was little… he was pretending. It wasn’t real. He was just guarded. And he was fearful, and he had every right to be. But then he grew up, and he really opened up and allowed us to see who he really was. And he was… …a gift. So much has happened between you and me. But now there’s this thing with scott. No, I swear to you, it’s not what you think. No. It’s — it’s something. I swear it’s not. It’s not.Lucy, it’s something. And whatever it is tends to eclipse whatever we are… or might have been. Now…I’d be the first person to admit I haven’t always been the most honorable man. But I love you.

[ Inhales deeply ] Oh, I love you. More than I ever loved any of the w– the women I married. You know, and that’s, uh… that’s done something for me. Now, I know I don’t want to spend too much time looking over my shoulder wondering what the hell is going on. I think… I think I deserve better.

[ Inhales sharply ] Bye, lucy.

[ Stammering ] G-g-goodbye?

[ Sobbing ] Thanks. I’ll call right now. I am sorry, tracy. Um, my doctor’s referring me to a new specialist, and I have to make an appointment right away. That’s — go right ahead. Take your time. Thanks. And I — I — I am sorry. I didn’t realize that spencer’s death would affect you so much. Oh. Thank you. I’ll be fine.

[ Sobbing ] Oh, for crying out — lucy! What took you so long? Uh-oh. What happened?

[ Exhales deeply ] Marty broke up with me. He said… he said… wait a minute. If he insulted you, I will knock his teeth out. And then I’ll slap a lawsuit on the dentist that fixes them. No, he said that he deserves… better.

[ Sobbing ] Oh. So you did get something from our gunrunner friend. Yeah. We learn something about the unidentified subject. But rather than just give you that information… after which you almost certainly would discard us. …I propose that… we have an exchange of information. Like we tell you everything we learned from the dealer, and you tell us everything you know about the unsub so far. Everythingor everything is a fair trade. Yeah? I mean, look, for starters, obviously we don’t believe that curtis was the intended target. We think it was sonny corinthos. Well, believe it or not, the fbi did consider the possibility that the crime boss may have been a more logical target than the nightclub owner. Well, there you go. And sonny has reason to believe that whoever is after him is still trying. So whatever you can tell us about the unsub could be incentive for him to tell us what he knows. You want me to provide you with intel that you plan on sharing with sonny corinthos? The man should have been in prison decades ago. He doesn’t care about anyone but himself. Well, that’s the sonny that you remember. It’s not the one that I know. Only because that’s the sonny he shows you. Perhaps. But I can keep him in line. Really? Because nobody’s ever been able to put a leash on sonny corinthos. Maybe I’ll be the first. Thanks for coming through for me like this. Yeah, yeah. Of course. You know, things have just — they haven’t been easy. I mean with michael and nina. What I’m trying to say is I — it’s hard to trust anyone, but I know I can trust you. Yeah, you’re damn right you can. And I promise you, this stays between us.

[ Cellphone ringing ] Ah, it’s laura. Laura. Hey, what’s going on? I’m home. I need you to come over as soon as possible. Why? Is everything okay? I’m here with nikolas. He’s ready to turn himself in.

THIS STILL NEEDS SOME EDITING!

[sighs] This is so peaceful, huh?

Mm-hmm. It’s perfect– crackling fire, winter wind blowing.

You know, when I was a kid, I used to be afraid to come out here at night. I used to think that the ghosts of my DiMera ancestors would grab me and take me off to the crypt.

Mm, those creepy DiMera spirits…

[chuckles]

Are those the ones cursing anyone marrying into this family?

[soft dramatic music]

Could be. Honestly, nothing would surprise me.

Wait a minute. You’re not really afraid for us to get married, are you?

Oh, thank you so much for this evening, Abraham.

[chuckles] Oh great food, great food and even better company.

[chuckles] I had a wonderful time.

[laughs]

[tender music]

Well… You know, tonight doesn’t have to end right here. I mean, you could come inside.

Oh, no, no, no, it’s all right. It’s all right. I– Good night.

Wait, wait, wait, wait. Hold on.

I can’t believe you’re here again in my arms.

Mm.

You know, for two years, I had the same dream over and over. Actually, I was in a coma for a year, and I wasn’t really dreaming then. But for a solid year, I had this dream where late one night, you’d show up at my door, and I’d sweep you off your feet with my romantic declarations of love. We’d take each other’s clothes off and… well, you can imagine the rest, or I guess you don’t have to.

Mm.

[laughter] Wow. So tonight was your fantasy?

Actually, tonight was my dream come true. My fantasy is I’m a rugged ship captain, and you show up at my cabin door dressed as a sexy Viking warrior.

[gasps] Oh. I will have to remember that.

[laughs]

Yeah, you should remember that.

Yeah.

We’re out of the friend zone!

[laughter]

Oh.

Now, you see, I thought it was gonna turn out to be the scientist’s mentor who killed his wife. I mean, he was already upset that the protégé had eclipsed him, and so he offed the wife to set him up for the murder.

Mm-mm. I figured early on it was the mother. I mean, she was too obsessed with him, always had to know where he was every second. She wanted her son’s wife out of the picture.

Mm, well, you were right. Are you sure you haven’t seen this movie before?

I just know a thing or two about meddling moms.

[soft dramatic music]

Uh-oh. What has my mom done now?

Well, that happened.

Yeah.

Twice.

Yeah.

It was incredible.

Yeah.

And a big fricking mistake.

Yeah.

You don’t want to play games with me. What do you want?

Thank you for coming. Sit down, Mr. Black. You and I are going to talk.

Just tell me what you want. So why do you pretend to be a new client just to get me out here?

[chuckles] Would you have come if you’d known it was me?

Damn straight, I would have. Saves me the trouble of tracking your ass down because you’re right, Konny. You and I, we’re gonna talk. And you’re gonna tell me everything that you know about The Pawn.

[tense music]

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

I’m afraid I do not play chess, Mr. Black.

Knock it off. Steve told me everything. You told him you know about The Pawn. Now I want to know what you know, and I want to know right now. Is this about Stefano?

I do not know about this Stefano. No, John, this is about Victor and his Pawn.

[tense music]

Italian families can be pretty superstitious. I mean, for example, a lot of my ancestors used to wear this necklace charm called The Devil’s Horn to ward off the evil eye.

Evil eye?

Yeah. It’s called the malocchiocurse. And someone who’s jealous of you can give you the evil eye without even meaning to. Yeah, there’s a lot of Italian superstitions.

Oh, yeah? Give some examples.

Some examples? OK. Um, it is bad luck to have a pet bird in your house. It’s also bad luck to leave a loaf of bread upside-down. The number , obviously, bad luck. Ooh, here’s one. So when a newlywed couple moves into a house…

Mm-hmm.

It has to be exorcised, or at least blessed, to ward off any evil spirits left behind by the previous owners.

Ooh.

On the other hand, a cat sneezing in your presence is considered good luck.

[laughs] OK. Well, then we will just have to get a cat then.

[laughs] Oh, come on, G. You don’t actually believe all that stuff, do you?

I–

[sighs] Look, after what my uncle Chad said to me, my family’s history is riddled with women who have either been heartbroken or messed up for marrying a DiMera– I mean, from getting kidnapped to brainwashed to death.

[dramatic music] And look what happened the last time we got married.

Yeah, yeah, that did leave me pretty messed up and heartbroken.

So maybe we should just be, you know, happy being with each other, just being with each other.

Chanel, I–

I love you too much to risk ruining your life by marrying me again.

You know, when I came to Salem and I tracked you down, I didn’t really know what to expect because I’d sort of been obsessively looking at pictures and videos of you from…

[chuckles] From two years ago. And I’d look at them before I went to sleep. I’d wake up in the morning, and I’d maybe sort of look at them. Anyway, when I saw you in real life standing in front of me, I didn’t think it was possible for you to surprise me with how beautiful you are.

[tender music]

You want to know what I thought when I first saw you here in Salem after not having seen you for two years?

Are you kidding me? Of course, I want to know.

I thought… “There’s the guy that I was so madly in love with I could hardly see straight.” And in spite of how rattled I was, more than rattled, I was shocked.

But even so… I was hard for me to stop myself from running into your arms and just holding you so, so tightly. I wanted to tell you how mad I was that you disappeared but how relieved I was that it wasn’t by choice, how relieved I was that you found me again.

But as you know, I was– I was committed to someone else at the time. I was living with Chad, and so that obviously stopped me from acting on how I actually felt.

Understandably.

That’s the reason that I was able to show such…

[sighs] Remarkable restraint…

Until tonight.

You hungry?

Mm-hmm, starving.

You know what the nice thing is about living in a hotel?

[together] Room service.

Yeah. On it.

That mom comment just flew out of my mouth. I shouldn’t have said anything.

No, you can’t take it back now. Just– just tell me.

[soft dramatic music]

OK. I will. Your mom cornered me in the apartment and kind of grilled me.

[sighs] About?

Well, it started out with her reminding me how much you hate almond milk, and then it pretty much went downhill from there. Yeah, in a nutshell, she questioned my commitment to you, then warned me to not break your heart.

Wendy, I’m– I’m so sorry.

Look, you– you were right when you said your mom was kind of a handful. No offense.

No, I get it. Nothing– nothing new there. No, but it does rile me up that she would talk to you like that behind my back. But she is Ava Vitali. And you know, she is my mom, and I love her very much. I will never understand why the woman does some of the things she does.

[groans] Oh, God.

Ouch.

Oh, Gabi.

Oh.

You know…

When I first told Gabi about this fake affair, she was completely supportive. She says, “As long as it stays fake, mi amor.” Look at me now. What have I done? What is wrong with me? What’s wrong with you, huh?

Me?

Yeah.

Me? You’re the one who came– ow– over here. And you– you took my sushi from the delivery guy.

You’re the one who wound me up with all the phone sex talk.

Oh my– are you kidding? I mean, who– who was the one who said, “Let’s open another bottle of wine”? Huh?

Who was the one who said, “Let’s do shots?”

[shushing] Stop it. OK? Shh. We’re both responsible. OK, responsible. We were vulnerable, and it was a big screw-up.

Yeah.

Yeah.

No kidding.

Yeah. OK. So we’re just gonna figure out– we’re going to figure out a way to put this all behind us. OK? And there’s really nothing to figure out, right? Because the only way to deal with this is no one can ever know the truth.

[tense music]

Wait a minute. I don’t get all of this sudden panic about us getting married. Aren’t you the one who gave me the whole carpe diem spiel? And, “oh, Chanel, I love you so much. I don’t want to wait.”

I do love you so much, and I don’t want to wait. I also don’t want anything to happen to you. I mean, you can make fun of curses and superstitions all you want, but I was possessed by the devil. I’m pretty sure you recall. Who knows what the future can hold? I just– I just don’t know if I want you taking this kind of risk.

Yeah, well, life in general is pretty risky, as we both know. And, hey, if the devil couldn’t keep us apart, then the DiMeras sure as hell can’t. And I truly believe all we have to do is love each other and be honest. And that will keep us safe. So in short, I have zero worries about us walking down that aisle. But now suddenly you do.

I mean, it’s not all that sudden. It’s just the more I think about it–

Wait, wait a minute. Is this really about what Chad said? Or are you having second thoughts about something else?

[soft dramatic music]

I probably shouldn’t say this to a man with amnesia, but I’m having deja vu.

[laughs] So what are you remembering?

Just the many times that we’d lay together here just like this.

[tender music] Did anything feel familiar to you?

No. But I promise you, it was wonderful.

Hmm. So I guess for you, it was like the very first time.

It was. It was. You know the good thing about losing my memory?

Hmm?

I get to fall in love with you all over again.

[laughter]

And I told her the only opinions that matter in our relationship are yours and mine.

Wendy, I am so sorry that my mom put you on the spot like that. But no surprise, you held your own against her.

Oh, and once again, she tried to convince me that you and I need to take a vacation. And she even offered to help me plan a romantic getaway on her. Clearly, she’s still trying to get us out of town.

Even though I’ve told her that we’re not going anywhere?

Yeah, well, obviously she’s not listening. She really did not like it when I turned the tables on her and started quizzing her about Harris and Stefan.

What did you ask?

How she felt about them. I mean, she totally shut me down and wouldn’t say anything.

Yeah, of course, she wouldn’t. She has been spending a lot of time with Stefan lately, which is not a good sign. I mean, not only do I dislike the guy, but I think whatever my mom is messed up in, Stefan’s behind it, just using her like the leech that he is.

Yes, of course, this stays between us. Gabi can never find out. Nobody can ever find out the truth.

Exactly. It never happened.

It never happened.

We take it to our graves.

Yeah, you had better, especially because, me, I got a lot more at stake,

What? How so?

How so? Because I’m married, OK? You and Mr. Clean, you’re not even seeing each other anymore.

Oh, so it’s OK if he finds out. Look, I don’t want him to know the truth either.

He already thinks we’re sleeping together. What’s the–you know what? Fine. OK? Miss Fabio, no argument from me. But let me remind you, I got a hell of a lot more to lose than you do.

So, what’s The Pawn to you?

The Pawn changed my life forever.

How? Tell me what you know about me, about my past.

[chuckles] I wonder what is inside of you waiting to come out. I can see it in your eyes, the eyes of a killer.

Damn it, Konstantin. There are so many– too many things that I don’t remember about my past. And now you show up here taunting me?

That is the least of what you deserve.

Tell me what you know about me right now.

[suspenseful music]

It’s so good.

Mm.

Oh.

Sorry, they didn’t have pasta with meat sauce on the menu. I know that’s your go-to for recharging.

All right, can’t beat a grilled cheese as a late night snack on a cold winter’s night. And you remembered to get ranch for our fries.

How could I forget how you take your fries?

[laughs]

Also that you hate olives, love anchovies, prefer rye bread over white. I can keep going.

I am impressed.

I also remember…

Hmm.

[tender music]

[laughs] What? What else?

Every inch of you.

Hey, look. There’s our geocaching event.

Oh, Caching Cupid– they used your title. I hope it kills. The hospital could really use the funding.

Well, the website’s been getting a ton of traffic. I set it up to maximize search engine optimization.

Mm, OK, well, now you’re turning me on with all this techie talk.

Really? Well, have I told you about the geodetic data?

Hmm.

Keep talking like this, and we won’t be able to wait for the apartment.

HTTPS is an extension of the hypertext transfer protocol.

We better hurry, woman.

[laughs]

Hey, you know what? I don’t understand the hold that that guy has on you. It’s not like you guys are married. Yeah, you’re not even together. You don’t even love the guy.

[soft dramatic music]

[laughs] Oh, wait a minute. You love Harris.

Look, I never said that.

You didn’t have to. You are wearing it all over your sleeve.

OK. You know what? It really doesn’t matter anyway, right? You know, I’m going to request that you shut up and maybe finish getting dressed so we can get you the hell out of here, OK?

OK, fine. Where is my shirt?

We brought everything in here in case Wendy and Tripp showed up. Come on. It’s here.

Well, it’s definitely not in here.

If you know as much about me as you claim you do, you know that I won’t hesitate to put a bullet through a man’s eye.

Or a woman’s either.

[tense music]

What does that mean?

What does that mean?

You came at me, and Katerina got in the way.

I came at you? Whe–? Who’s Katerina?

[chuckles]

Tell me. Hands where I can see them.

I need you to see something and tell me what it means, and I will go away.

John. John? Are you OK? John.

[ominous music]

Who’s John?

[chuckles] If you are not John, then are you The Pawn?

I’ve been called that, yes.

Oh, finally. My God.

[speaks Greek] Finally, after all these years, I found you, the one who killed Katerina. There was a time many years ago in Greece, in Aria, you came to deliver a message, a message of death.

My beautiful Katerina.

John… someone must pay for that.

You know, it’s– it’s been a while since we’ve been together.

You’re not asking me to rate your performance, are you?

Oh, no, no, no, no. I was just– well, I don’t remember what you– don’t remember what you like or don’t like.

Oh, honey, I am not shy. You know I would tell you.

[laughter] But, well, I will say this, you were wonderful then, and you’re wonderful now.

[laughter] Oh, your side of the bed sure did miss you, Abraham. And so did I.

[tender music]

Chanel, I have zero second thoughts about marrying you, none whatsoever. OK, I just– I just want to make sure that you’re going into this with your eyes open.

Well, I told you that your big, tough family doesn’t scare me.

What about the other side?

You mean your mother?

No, although she can be quite scary. I was thinking more about my sister.

Your sister? You don’t really think that I still have feelings for Allie?

You did choose her once over me.

But I loved you first, and I love you last forever.

[soft dramatic music] What? You don’t believe me?

I just I can’t stop thinking about how crazy you guys were about each other.

Oh, my God. You’re worried that I prefer women.

You’re worried that I’m gay, aren’t you?

You know, I’m blown away that it’s been two years.

Mm. I mean, in some ways, it feels like it’s been forever, and in other ways, it feels like we’ve never been apart.

I mean, I haven’t been with anybody since the last time I was with you.

Well, you know my story. You weren’t in a coma for a year, so I think you get a pass.

Hmm. Thank you.

You want to hear something wild?

Hmm?

I think I grew more and more in love with you while we were apart.

An “absence makes the heart grow fonder” thing?

No, no, like a true love kind of thing. All I know is I have you back, and I am never, ever gonna let you go again.

You know, I should probably start thinking about getting out of this hotel room.

Oh, where would you go?

I don’t know. I mean, you could move out of your parents’ place. We could find a place on our own together, pick up where we left off. What do you say?

[tense music]

What the hell?

Tripp, Stefan, he was just–

I was just helping her out.

No, you save it. I’m not an idiot. OK?

You know what? I was just leaving.

Yeah, you better damn well leave.

OK, Tripp, calm down.

No, keep your paws off my mother, OK?

Tripp, Tripp, your mom’s a grown woman. She can be with whoever she wants.

No way. Not with this dirtbag.

Again, none of your business.

My mother is my business, OK? I’m not going to stand around and watch you use her. That is over. You hear me? You’re going to keep your distance from her from now on, or you are gonna regret it.

[tense music]

I wish we could lay like this forever… and all of our problems would just blow away.

[soft dramatic music]

Are you thinking about your surgery?

Actually, I went to the hospital this morning.

Why?

Well, because I think– I think the lump is actually getting bigger.

Why didn’t you tell me?

Oh, there’s nothing to tell yet. They did another ultrasound. I’m waiting to hear what they say. But, you know, being here with you like this, I feel like I can handle just about anything. And I forgot all about it for a little while. That’s no small thing.

[tender music] You have no idea how much this means to me.

Well, actually I do.

It’s overwhelming trying to navigate life with no memory, but you never gave up on me.

I was lost at sea. And you… you are my safe harbor.

And you’re mine.

Yes, I am. And I am going to be with you every step of the way now and always.

Look, I am not questioning your sexual orientation, OK? I’m just– I guess, if I’m being honest, I want to make sure, am I gonna be enough for you?

Johnny, listen to me, OK?

I am ready to commit myself to one person, and you are that person– you, OK? And no one else. You protected me even when we weren’t together, and you have shown me in a million ways that I am enough for you. And yes, Johnny, you are enough for me, more than enough, always and forever. I love you. I love you so much.

I love you too.

Whoa!

[laughs] Whoa! Slow your roll there, fella. Live together?

I’m boundary pushing again, aren’t I?

Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah, you are.

Yeah.

Look, I moved in with Chad too fast. That was a big mistake. And as any relationship self-help book would tell you– and I’ve read my fair share– just there’s no need to rush. Just enjoy each other. And if it’s real, it’ll last.

OK. All right. But for me, it’s real. I already know that. There’s no doubt in my mind you’re the only person in the world that I want to share my life with, and that will never change.

[soft dramatic music]

What about you? Is it real for you?

[ominous music]

Move that trashcan over here.

[chuckles] At last. Yes. My Katerina will be avenged.

Katerina will be avenged.

Raise your right arm. Now lower it. And now, Mr. Black, let’s try something much more high stakes, shall we?

Put the gun to your head and pull the trigger.

[suspenseful music]

OK. So are we done now? Have we checked off every box on the list of our potential concerns? And are we now ready to vow to be true and love each other until death do us part?

Yeah. Yeah. OK. All right, it’s settled. So, are you ready to be Mrs. DiMera?

I don’t know. It depends. Are you ready to be Mr. Dupree?

Oh, oh, OK. Well, I guess we never really talked about the name change thing. Is there something you want to do about that?

You know what? We have had enough discussions for tonight. I think that the only thing left for us to do is to just seal our love with another kiss.

Yeah, that sounds good– sounds good to me.

[laughs]

[tender music]

Mm. You know what? There is– I’m sorry– there is one other thing left to do on our to-do list.

What?

I was thinking, and just thinking, that we should seal our love with a little more than a kiss.

Mm-hmm. I’ll race you to the bedroom.

Oh. OK.

[laughter] Whoa. Whoa. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.

I don’t know how much sleep I’m gonna get tonight. I’ve got so much on my mind.

[sighs] But I am so very happy to have you back here, Abraham, in our bed.

It does feel right, doesn’t it?

Mm-hmm.

[sighs] You know, we could stay up all night and talk. We can do that. But I want you to know that I am– I’m here for you, Paulina, whatever you need, whatever you want.

Hey, please, let’s just take it slow, OK? There’s no rush. You’re not going to fall into another coma. And I’m not going anywhere. So let’s just live in the moment appreciate that we found each other again.

I do appreciate that beyond– beyond words.

And you’re right. You’re right. There’s no need to rush.

Except maybe– maybe to– to sleep. I have to meet Chad in a few hours.

Then why go to sleep at all?

Tripp, that is enough. Stefan, just– just– just– just go. Please, just– just go.

Fine, I– I will go.

OK.

Really?

I was– I was just– you know what? I’m not going to discuss this with my son. No. Uh-uh. No.

[soft dramatic music]

Stop. Not today. You will serve a purpose. You will be Konstantin’s Pawn, and I will have revenge for my Katerina. But not yet. You will go back to your lovely family. And in seconds, you will return to who you are, Mr. Black.

[ominous music]

Transcript provided by Suzanne

[ Upbeat music ]

Rj: Good morning.

Luna: Have you been awake long?

Rj: A while.

Luna: What? You’ve just been watching me?

Rj: It’s just really hard not to.

Luna: Last night was…

Rj: Yeah, it sure was.

Luna: It’s more than I could have ever dreamed of.

[ Eric sighs ]

Donna: Hey. Are you hungry?

Eric: Uh, no. Actually, thanks. Not right now. Not right now.

Ridge: Hey.

Eric: Shouldn’t you two be at the office? Don’t you have that big important meeting with ronaldo this morning?

Ridge: How do you know about that?

Brooke: Are you spying on us?

Eric: Yeah, if you’d let me come into the office, I wouldn’t have to.

Ridge: We’d love to have you in the office. It’s not the same without you there.

Eric: I should certainly hope not. +Brooke: We do miss you and your sunny disposition. But there is this issue of your health.

Eric: Yes, we should be getting some news about that pretty soon. Finn’s on his way over here with my… my long-term prognosis. But then you two already know that, don’t you? That’s why they’re here, isn’t it?

Donna: Because we said no more secrets.

Eric: Yeah. Well… I’m happy for the company. I’m just hoping for some good news.

Ridge: Dad, you fought hard. You deserve this.

Finn: Hey, eric. I… I just let myself in.

Eric: We’re expecting you. I need to hear this news. What’s the… what’s my long-term prognosis?

Luna: Mm.

Rj: What? What is it? What– what’s wrong? Are you– you don’t need to check your breath. You’re fine. Hey, luna. Seriously, it’s okay. Come on, with how close we are after last night?

Luna: Well, I wouldn’t want to do anything to turn you off.

Rj: Turn– that is impossible. Okay? You’re stuck with me.

Finn: So, I met with the medical team.

Eric: And?

Finn: And, you know, as you know, we’ve… had a battery of extensive testing.

Eric: So, what is it? I mean, am I gonna get better? I’m gonna get back to full strength? Am I– how’s my quality of life gonna be? What–

Finn: Eric, your markers are right in line.

[ Donna gasps ] They’re better than what we had hoped.

Donna: Oh! Crack the science of stronger hair.

Rj: How do you feel?

Luna: Um, truthfully?

Rj: Yeah?

Luna: I don’t really know how to put it into words. Like… all of these emotions are hitting me at the same time. The… waking up with you in your bed and lying in your arms. Um…

Rj: Go on.

Luna: Part of me wondered if I’d feel the same afterwards.

Rj: The same how?

Luna: I don’t know. Like, maybe I’d feel like I– I lost something? Something special that I’ve been holding onto for years, but… it’s not like that. I mean, it definitely doesn’t feel the same. Like… I feel different. Like… more of a woman. More connected to another person. More connected than I ever knew possible. It was beautiful. You’re beautiful, rj.

Ridge: So, this is it. We can all breathe again. The procedure was a success.

Eric: I– I think this is cause for celebration, really.

Finn: It most definitely is. But small note of caution, you need to remain diligent, okay? As wonderful news as this is, you need to keep on the right track.

Donna: Oh, he will, won’t you, sweetheart?

Eric: Of course.

Donna: Yeah.

Eric: And see, this is exactly what I would expect from a medical dream team.

Brooke: And you’re keeping bridget apprised too, I assume.

Finn: Oh, yeah, of course. And to say that she was delighted and relieved would be an understatement.

Brooke: Meanwhile, you have your whole family to support you.

Ridge: Or whatever else you need.

Eric: Yeah, well, what I need is to get back to work. I need to design. I need to be creative.

Donna: He was up early sketching away.

Eric: Yeah, but not too early, though, I know. I agree that I’m– I’m going along with getting a lot of rest.

Ridge: See, that is your model patient right here.

Finn: What your father has done, the effort, the determination, that’s what’s made the difference. I mean, that’s why he is where he is today.

Ridge: You hear that? The whole medical community is impressed by you.

Donna: Well, you certainly impressed all of us.

Brooke: We are all blessed, eric. It wasn’t so long ago when you were struggling, facing what you were. And in the darkest hour, finn really came through for us.

Finn: Everyone had a part. You know, everyone was pulling their own weight. Especially this guy. Right there.

Eric: Now, finn, you– you saved my life. You did. And I thank you for that. And I’m gonna live this life the best way I can. I promise you that. (Vo) welcome to lobsterfest. Is your party ready?

Eric: And just like that, finn has gone back to the hospital to save more lives.

Donna: No doctor is more dedicated.

Ridge: My daughter found herself a good one.

Brooke: I think we’re all grateful that finn’s a part of our lives, especially since he brought you back to us, eric.

Eric: I have to say, a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I was worried about this. Been a long journey, you know. Every step– every step of it, just so challenging, you know.

Donna: It’s true, but you faced it head-on, and look where you are now.

Brooke: You’re here. You’re here with family. The people who love you.

Ridge: You’re right. He’s loved. Deeply loved.

Donna: Okay, I know how excited we all are.

[ Laughter ] But, um, I really think that you should lie down and rest. You were up at the crack of dawn sketching that.

Eric: Yeah, I was. I’m still invigorated. I mean, that’s what happens when you get good news like this, you know, it’s invigorating and, you know.

Donna: Eric, please, honey bear.

Eric: Look, I want to celebrate this. I– I just feel wonderful. Why– why don’t we, uh… this is cause for a celebration. I want to have a party. That’s what I want to do. Let’s throw a party.

Donna: Okay, I– I understand your enthusiasm and, you know, I’m– we’re all feeling it.

Eric: Good, good.

Donna: But I’m just not sure a party’s a good idea right now. I mean, yes, we got some positive news, but, um…

Brooke: But I think you really need to take it easy.

Eric: I will. I’ll take it easy. I will. But, uh, I definitely think this is a reason for us to celebrate. Let’s have a party. Tonight.

Ridge: He’s right about that. He’s right.

Eric: I am, right?

Ridge: Tomorrow night.

Eric: Tonight. Tonight. Let’s do it.

Ridge: Not tonight.

Eric: Yes. I know it’s short notice and people are gonna have a hard time showing up. It can be small. It can just be us. That would be all right. My… my objective is to celebrate, and I don’t wanna just celebrate me. I wanna… I want to celebrate you. You’ve been standing next to me so close through all of this, and– and– and you’re a big reason that I’m here right now. And so… I love you, donna.

Donna: I love you too.

Eric: So I– I– I… I want you to be there, and I want you to be there, and I want, uh… I want katie to come too. She’s a big part of this too. So katie and brooke and you, the logan sisters. That would be a good party right there, wouldn’t it? And rj. Rj has to be here too. Absolutely.

Brooke: Of course. Yes, rj would love it.

Eric: Well, then, all right. I’m gonna call him right now. I’m gonna call him. Where’s my phone?

Rj: Can I get you anything? You want coffee or something to eat? I can– I’m not bragging, but I can make a very decent omelet.

Luna: Wait, I saw that post. It was, um, right outside of paris, right?

Rj: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I, uh– confession though. I– real life versus social media, I think it took me 11 tries to get an omelet that was, like, postable.

[ Laughs ]

Luna: Thank you. Good right here.

Rj: I’m sorry.

Luna: What?

Rj: I don’t know. I’m just staring at you. Literally, I cannot take my eyes off you.

Luna: I don’t want you to. I mean, I could stay like this forever.

Rj: Oh, yeah? Well, you know what that would mean? That would mean that we never get out of this bed.

Luna: Yeah, I think I could handle that.

Rj: Oh, yeah? You think you could handle that?

Luna: Yeah. [ Chuckles ] I feel so close to you. After last night. Closer than I ever knew possible.

[ Phone ringing ]

Rj: I’m so sorry. I would never answer this right now, I swear. I just– I know the ringtone. It’s my grandfather. I’d–

Luna: It’s okay. It’s okay. Go for it.

[ Ringing continues ] Hey, granddad. What’s up?

Eric: Finn was just here, yeah, and he gave me a clean bill of health.

Rj: Really? Oh, that’s– that’s awesome. Uh, tell me– tell me everything.

Eric: Well, I will, but first things first. I want to invite you to a forrester family party here tonight. I want you to be there.

Rj: Okay. Tonight? Yeah. I’ll definitely be there.

Eric: Good. Any chance luna’s there with you?

Rj: Um… yeah. As a matter of fact, she is. Uh, why?

Eric: Yeah, good. I want you to bring her with you, all right?

Rj: Really?

Eric: Yeah. You love her, don’t you?

Rj: I do.

Eric: Good. Look, if there’s one thing I’ve learned in the past few months is that, uh… in this life is that love is everything. If you love somebody, you hang on to her, all right? Don’t let her go.

Rj: That’s exactly what I intend to do. Thank you, granddad. I’ll, uh… I’ll see you tonight. And– and congratulations again on the news.

Luna: So, was that about your grandfather’s prognosis?

Rj: It was, and he got some great news, which is awesome.

Luna: Oh, that’s wonderful. I’m so happy.

Rj: Yeah. Uh, and, uh, he also said that there’s gonna be a forrester family party tonight to celebrate, of course.

Luna: That’s cool. You should definitely go.

Rj: Yeah. Well, I am. And so are you. ()

Brooke: So, rj’s coming?

Eric: Yes. It looks like luna will be too.

Ridge: Oh, well, she should. She found your trusty stapler.

Eric: Yes, she did. It’s a wonderful thing she did. Yeah, let’s give her a raise. What do you say? Right?

Ridge: Okay, I’ll look into it.

Donna: Okay, okay. I– I don’t mean to keep harping here, but, um, are you sure you’re up for this? I mean, we could just have a party in a week or two.

Eric: No, no, no, no. No waiting. I feel like this has been a long time coming.

Luna: Wait, so fill me in. What happened?

Rj: Granddad asked me if you were here, so I said yes, and then he invited you to the party.

Luna: Me?

Rj: Yeah. Well, it’s not the first one you’ve been to. You went to the last one.

Luna: Yeah, I know, but I just assumed that that was kind of like a courtesy thing. Or because we were dating or because I helped out on the line. So, you’re telling me that your grandfather, eric forrester, specifically invited me to the family party.

Rj: Yeah, he did. You know what else he asked me? If I love you. You know what I told him?

Luna: That you do?

Rj: It’s just the beauty and the brains, it’s just, it’s such a lethal combo, you know? He also said something really wise to me. That he learned over the last few months just how precious love is. And how I should hold on to the one I love and never let go.

Luna: I love you.

Rj: I love you too.

Ridge: Well, donna and brooke, they’re all in. They already figured out the menu for your party.

[ Eric chuckles ]

Eric: No surprise there. It’s gonna be a wonderful party, I have no doubt about that. It’s gonna be terrific. What?

Ridge: Nothing. It’s just, it’s nice to see you like this. Full of life, energy.

Eric: Yeah. I am full of life. Maybe not completely back. You know, I’m not sure that I’m ever gonna be… a hundred percent again, but, uh… I’m gonna do the best I can. I really am.

Ridge: But you do have the one thing that every person wants. You’re loved.

Eric: Yeah. Never gonna take that for granted again, I’m not. What happened to me changed my life forever.

Ridge: What happened to you? Like when you went on your little trip?

Eric: When I went to the other side, ridge. I went there. There was– there was a feeling of love and peace there that I’ve… I’ve never experienced anytime in my life, and it felt… I felt like I was truly home there. Seeing your mother and– and the people that I knew in my life. I felt like I was home there. And that I was loved there. And I just hope to bring that feeling of love and peace… here. To, uh… to the rest of my life.

Tucker: Now’s really not the best time.

Audra: Your moods are relentless these days. Now, what’s wrong?

Tucker: Nothing I’m prepared to discuss at this time.

Audra: Oh, you don’t need to. This is about Ashley, isn’t it? She’s yanking your chain yet again. And you’re letting it get to you.

***************************

Sally: You know kids. They don’t like to draw attention. Connor isn’t shutting you out. I’m sure he’s just trying to keep a low profile.

Adam: What– what if it’s deeper than that?

Sally: What do you mean?

Adam: He trusts Chelsea more than he trusts me for a reason. I wasn’t around for so long. For years that– that really matter to kids. He lived without a dad and he got used to it. But, I mean, hey, I was just keeping up a family tradition.

Sally: You’re not victor.

Adam: No, it’s more than that. My father grew up without his father and I grew up without my dad. So now what, it’s Connor’s turn? And, I mean, if he grows up resenting me for not being around, for feeling distant, or that he can’t depend on me, how can I blame him, or even Chelsea? All of this is on me.

Lucy: Hey, dad. We still on for later? Hello? Your daughter’s speaking to you.

Daniel: Hey, um, your father is listening. What’s up?

Lucy: You forgot.

Daniel: Forgot what?

Lucy: Really?

Daniel: Hey, I’m– I’m sorry. I just– I got this deadline. And– [ Sighs ]

Lucy: You’re not busy. You were just staring into space like– like this.

Daniel: Okay, cool. Thank you for the mockery. You have my undivided attention.

Lucy: So, you know how you want me to, like, talk about my feelings and stuff?

Daniel: Mm-hmm. Always.

Lucy: So, you should tell me why you’ve been so grumpy all morning. You yelled at the coffee machine earlier, and you’ve obviously forgotten that I don’t have school today, and we were going to go to the gallery show.

Daniel: Oh, yeah, right.

Lucy: You sound just like mom.

Daniel: What is that supposed to mean?

Lucy: I asked her if she was still planning on coming with us and she basically said the exact same thing. “Oh, yeah, right.”

***********************=************=***************

Tucker: Bonjour, Ashley. I know where you are. And I know what you’re doing. I’m trying to stay out of it but I just can’t. You could be at the bistro this very minute. And I hope you are, because the suspense is killing me. Not that there’s any question about what the staff would tell you. What I’m dying to know is how you’ll react to the truth, what happens when you finally come face to face with reality.

Ashley: Son of a bitch.

Tucker: Morning.

Nate: Morning. Coffee, please.

Tucker: So are you and Audra an item now?

Nate: Why do you ask?

Tucker: Oh, you seem pretty cozy up in her suite. I saw the sparkle in her eyes. She may have said something.

Nate: I seriously doubt that. But if Audra and I are an item or not, that’s none of your business

**†******************************************”””***

Tucker: You will never understand the bond that audra and I share.

Nate: But I do. You’re alone. You’ve got nothing, no one. So you cling to some fantasy that there’s more to that bond with audra than there actually is. You’re no good for her, tucker. So if you care about audra, you’ll let her go. Man, she is brilliant and talented, but she’ll never achieve her true potential with your dead weight around her neck.

Tucker: She’s gotten pretty far with my dead weight around her neck.

Nate: Oh, I’m sure she’d appreciate you taking all the credit.

[ Scoffs ]

Tucker: I have supported Audra all this time because I understand her. And she understands me. We understand each other. That’s why I know she’s got something in the works, something aimed at me. You know anything about it?

Nate: No clue.

Tucker: No clue. Her confidence is alluring, isn’t it? I have a sneaking suspicion that she thinks she can get one over on me, and she would be very insulted if I just let it slide. So please tell your friend– or your lover or whatever the hell she is for you– that I’m onto her. And if you’re thinking of throwing in with her in this little game, as smart as you think you are, you can’t beat me.

Phyllis: You seemed to enjoy yourself. I certainly did. There’s obviously a lot of heat between us. I think that we should explore what could come next.

Danny: There is no next. I’m not interested. says otherwise.

Danny: Look, would you just stop it, please? Whatever this– this flirtation, or whatever you want to call it, is completely one-sided and it can’t go anywhere.

Phyllis: It could if you let it.

Danny: I don’t want it to. Don’t you understand? There’s too much history and a lot of it bad and you’re still you. Look, I’m sorry if that sounds harsh, but you’re not listening, and I need to get through to you. I really do.

Phyllis: That’s not fair. That’s not fair. I’ve changed. You know I’ve changed. You know that. How many times have you said that lately that I’ve changed? So you see it. You believe it.

Danny: I want to, if only for Daniel’s sake. I have worked really hard to convince myself, and then you pull a stunt like this. Posting that video, implying that there’s something romantic going on between us when you know that there’s not. So, no. From my standpoint, no, you haven’t changed at all.

“””********************************

Danny: This is pointless.

Phyllis: I beg to differ.

Danny: Look, would you just forget the kiss, all right? That’s the least of it. Posting that video online, suggesting that we’re romantically involved? That was way out of line.

Phyllis: Are you kidding me right now? Really? You’re a rock star. People post videos of you all the time, Danny. Walking down the street, eating at a restaurant. As long as it’s respectful, it’s fine. Or maybe this is about something else. Is it? Is it about your precious Christine? That you want her to feel safe, and I feel–

Danny: Wrong.

Phyllis: Excuse me?

Danny: This isn’t gonna work. It doesn’t feel good. It doesn’t feel right. Maybe some version of friends, for Daniel’s sake, but… anything else, no. Never.

Danny: Hey, gorgeous. Boy, am I glad to see you.

Christine: Oh, wait. What, did Phyllis get called away on an emergency? Is that why you suddenly have free time? video of me at the piano

Tucker: There she is. Didn’t expect to see you so soon. Or ever, after our last conversation. Hi. Uh, just my usual, thank you.

Audra: I’ll put it on my tab, please.

Tucker: Oh, sweet. The deluxe apology.

Audra: What’s a few angry words between old friends

**********************************************

Audra: I had some time to think things through, that’s all.

Tucker: Uh-huh. This is a major reversal. You were very decisive up in your suite.

Audra: Yeah, I had a knee-jerk reaction to the mention of jabot.

Tucker: And Ashley.

Audra: But I’m calmer now.

Tucker: No, you’ve– you’ve pushed back before. This is different. And you– you– you were done with me, right? In all ways.

Audra: Well, I decided to leave Newman media. Effective immediately.

Tucker: Well, now.

Audra: There’s no upward mobility for me there. And it’s a closed shop. Only the Newmans are allowed in the inner circle, and that’s never going to change. I thought it was worth it to have it on my resume, but why bother now when there are other, much better options on the table?

Tucker: And you just realized this?

Audra: Yes. I just realized that.

Tucker: Same job it was a week ago. Something must have happened.

Audra: Think whatever you want. Is your offer still on the table?

Tucker: Maybe. Only if you’re honest with me.

Audra: About?

Tucker: Something tells me you didn’t quit. Something tells me you ticked Nikki off and she fired you. Hm?

[ Tucker laughs ] She did, didn’t she? What’d you do to lose your job, Audra?

Chance: Hey.

Summer: Hey, there you are. I thought for a second that maybe you were standing me up.

Chance: I’m very sorry I’m late. The night hasn’t even started and I’m already screwing up. It’s very typical.

Chance: Well, you know the motto, be prepared. And I’ve fallen short, I apologize.

Summer: Okay, you can relax. We both had to work late and I just got here too, so you’re fine.

Chance: Okay, well I did reserve one of the quiet tables, so that should make up for something.

Summer: Yeah, and if you help me with my coat, you’ll be well on your way to earning your first date badge.

**********************

Jack: Okay, I’m not asking you to give me newman enterprises secrets. I’m just saying we could share a drink. We do have a grandson in common. When was the last time you saw harrison?

[ Victor chuckling ]

Victor: Cute kid.

Jack: Yeah, he is. I’m still upset about kyle and summer.

Victor: Yeah, I must say. When one of one’s loved ones has a heartbreak, it affects me as well.

Jack: If I could take away their pain by feeling it myself, I would.

Victor: Yeah, but that’s what parenting and grandparentin isn’t it?

Jack: Yeah. So, what do you say? Have a drink together, old rivals, for old times’ sake?

Victor: All right. Bartender, kindly show me that same bottle of tequila you showed me before and pour a drink for each of us, all right? By the way, put it on his tab.

Summer: How are things for you, by the way, with all the changes in the C-suite?

Kyle: Ah, news travels fast, huh?*

Summer: Well, I guess that means that you’re now back where you belong in the co-CEO spot.

Kyle: Not quite.

Summer: Then who?

Kyle: My mom.

Summer: Diane is now co-CEO of Jabot? I mean, how do you feel about that? About your mom taking your job?

Ashley: Well, you’ve certainly convinced yourself that I’m the one with the problem, haven’t you?

Tucker: Uh, you are the one rewriting history.

Ashley: Mm-hmm. I know what you’re doing. I know exactly what you’re trying to accomplish.

Tucker: You’re trying to provoke me into losing my temper so I’ll turn over a table thus validating your story. No dice.

Ashley: I am not the one who is playing games.

Tucker: Ashley, if this was a game, wouldn’t that suggest that I’m deriving some pleasure from it? I’m having fun? I assure you I’m not.

Ashley: You are gaslighting me.

Tucker: Have you asked yourself why I would make you question your sanity? What do I stand to gain from that?

Ashley: It’s retaliation, Tucker. You’re trying to make me suffer.

Tucker: Listen to yourself.

Ashley: It’s because I changed my mind about leaving Jabot. I ruined your dreams and all of your expectations and now you’re trying to punish me.

Tucker: That’s incredible. You never really knew me at all, did you?

Ashley: No, I know you quite well. You are selfish. You are smug. You are narcissistic. You’re a son of a bitch.

Tucker: Yeah. Yes. I know I’m all those things, aren’t I? But I can tell you right now, I have never ever been motivated by the need to inflict harm on others and absolutely never on someone I loved.

Adam: Come on, Dad. We know that this is a temporary gig. Victoria waltzes back in here. She wants her job back. It’s gonna be musical chairs all over again and someone might end up out on their ass.

Victor: Son, I understand Victoria’s decision, but that doesn’t mean that I will use you and your brother as placeholders.

Adam: Okay. That’s easy to say now, but when the time comes, I assume all bets are gonna be off,

Victor: Sit down. I’m gonna say it once. Your place at my company is secure. You got that?

Adam: Understood.

Victor: But don’t you give me a reason to change my mind.

Adam: No, those days are gone, okay? I’m with you. All in, %. Things are going well in every facet of my life. Personal and professional. I’m not about to screw that up.

**********************************************

Victor: Good, son. in such a good mood?

Adam: Um, it was just, um…

Victor: Look, boy. I know you’re still seeing Sally Spectra.

Adam: Is this where you’re gonna make a dire prediction that she’s gonna be the ruin of me or Nick, or both of us?

Victor: Let me just say that I don’t think she’s good enough for either of my sons. And I don’t like the fact that she has hurt Nicholas as deeply as she has. But there’s a reason for that. She’s always cared more about you than about your brother. The heart wants what the heart wants, you know? It’s an unstoppable force.

Adam: That’s about as close of a blessing I can expect from you where Sally is concerned, so I’ll take it. Thank you.

Victor: As long as you trust her, I’ll try to do the same

Days Update Friday, February 2, 2024

Days of Our Lives Update

Days of Our Lives logo

Update written by Joseph

John and Marlena have wine at home after finishing dinner. Marlena tells John that she’s sorry he had a rough day. John says he was just putting out fires and asks about her day. Marlena says it was the same. They comment on the sound of silence until Brady comes home and says they would not believe the day he had as he spent the whole day putting out fires. John offers him leftovers and goes to get him a non-alcoholic beer. Brady tells Marlena that with everything on John’s plate, he’s still thinking about him. Marlena calls John a very kind man. Brady wishes he had John’s generosity of spirit and that he was as good of a dad as John is.

Xander and Sarah set up for dinner at home as they are having Maggie over. Sarah reveals they need to set one more place at the table because Maggie is bringing Konstantin but Xander declares that he will not share a dinner table with Konstantin.

Konstantin gets ready in his room at the Kiriakis Mansion. He picks up the card he has and wonders what it means to Steve and John. Maggie comes in to ask if he’s ready and tells him the car is outside as she doesn’t want to keep Sarah and Xander waiting. Konstantin asks if she’s sure this is a good idea since Xander is not his biggest fan and for very good reason…

Ava sits at home, reading a romance novel called “Forbidden Fantasies” until Stefan shows up at the door to deliver her sushi. Stefan hopes she got enough for two. Ava questions if he came for dinner. Stefan responds that he actually came to drink with her. Ava notes that it seems he already started drinking. Stefan says he doesn’t like drinking alone, so he bet she probably had a bottle of wine open by now. Ava asks if she has a choice. Stefan jokes that they can commiserate over how crappy their lives are. Ava decides she has nothing else to do tonight.

Stephanie goes to Everett’s room at the Salem Inn as Everett is finishing a call with Chad. Everett tells Chad that he’ll pick him up at 6 AM tomorrow and hangs up. Everett apologizes to Stephanie for not taking her call earlier as it’s been a crazy couple of hours. Everett says he’s glad she’s there. Stephanie says she came because she couldn’t find her ear bud and this was the last place she remembered having it. Everett finds it on the floor and returns it to her. Stephanie then asks Everett about picking Chad up at 6 AM and where they are going.

Marlena tells Brady not to be so hard on himself as he’s a wonderful father. Brady asks if that’s why his daughter is indifferent to him now and his son is in juvi rehab. John returns with his drink so Brady thanks him. The doorbell then rings. Brady guesses that’s Theresa to sign consent forms for Tate’s youth correctional wilderness trip. Brady answers the door. Theresa apologizes for interrupting but John and Marlena tell her to come in. Theresa says she has to sign registered mail in the morning and she used to be able to do it online but the juvi system was hacked. Marlena comments on Tate doing very well which Theresa says that is what they hear. Brady thinks they’ll actually get to see him on parental visitation. Theresa calls it a very long few weeks. Marlena says they have missed him as well. Theresa brings up all the times she got impatient with Tate or he would annoy her and now she’d give anything to have him annoy her now and be able to embrace him or tell him that she loves him.

Konstantin tells Maggie that he understands not being able to forgive someone who put their daughter in danger, even indirectly. Konstantin doesn’t know if Xander will ever trust him or feel comfortable with him. Maggie tells him that Konstantin will have to change Xander’s mind, especially since Xander is going to be part of her daughter’s life for a very long time. Konstantin questions if she’s implying that he is going to be a part of her life for a long time as well. Maggie says she didn’t mean that, so Konstantin questions what she meant. Maggie says it’s time to go as she doesn’t want to be late for dinner and exits. Konstantin smiles as he follows her out.

Stephanie asks Everett what he and Chad are up to, pointing out that she’s the PR consultant to she needs to know. Everett informs her that they got a big lead on the drug crisis so he and Chad are digging in to it tomorrow. Everett adds that it has major potential to get the Spectator national recognition. Stephanie calls it recognition for him as well and says she’s dying to hear more. Everett says she’ll have to wait until it’s in writing. Stephanie agrees to try to be patient and says she’ll be going now that she got her ear bud. Everett stops her and asks if she has plans, noting that he has a mini-bar of liquor bottles and invites her to stay for dinner.

Ava offers Stefan some sushi but he declines, saying he prefers to drown his sorrows on an empty stomach. Stefan jokes with her about the book she was reading. Ava tells him that she was messing with him in their phone call earlier and that she enjoyed making him crazy. Stefan remarks that he’s already halfway to crazy these days. Ava guesses he really misses Gabi. Stefan confirms that he does every minute. Ava relates to missing someone. Stefan guesses she misses Harris but says she doesn’t need to answer and he’s sorry. Stefan proposes a toast to lost loves and new friendships, asking if he can call this a friendship. Ava jokes that he annoys the hell out of her and she can only stand 10 minutes with him, but guesses they are friends. Stefan jokes that she annoys the hell out of him too and she makes him want to pull his hair out because she’s a tremendous downer, but in spite of all that, he does consider her sort of a friend. They toast to new friendships.

Brady and Theresa sign their papers. Theresa thanks him and says they will talk later. Brady asks how she’s doing. Theresa says she’s good. Marlena offers to give them a few minutes to talk but Theresa says no since it’s their house. John notes that it’s Brady’s house too, so they are going to give them some privacy. John and Marlena head to the bedroom. Theresa then asks Brady why Marlena offered them privacy. Theresa asks if they know, hoping that Brady did not tell them about her getting high.

Xander goes to leave his apartment as Maggie and Konstantin arrive. Maggie questions where he’s going and says it better be to the store. Xander asks her to try to understand. Maggie says she doesn’t as this night is about her, her daughter, and granddaughter, not whatever bad blood is between Xander and Konstantin. Xander then reluctantly invites Konstantin in to his home with Maggie. Xander mentions that Sarah is in the bedroom with Victoria, so Maggie says she’s going to join them and tells them to behave themselves. Konstantin comments on Xander having a lovely home which he calls warm and inviting. Xander thanks him but says to cut the chit chat. Konstantin asks what he would prefer to talk about. Xander says he wants to talk about Maggie Horton, the best person he knows, who he cares about deeply. Xander warns Konstantin about hurting Maggie. Konstantin responds that he’s wary of defending himself to Xander and others who are skeptical about his feelings for Maggie. Konstantin declares that he also cares very deeply about Maggie and he would never hurt her. Konstantin claims that he’s not the man that Xander thinks he is which Xander mocks.

Stefan and Ava finish their wine. Ava asks Stefan if he’d rather have Gabi in prison for decades like she is now or Gabi out of prison, but he never gets to see her again. Stefan calls it tough but says he would set her free so he would at least know she’s safe. Stefan brings out a third bottle of wine and opens it up while Ava calls for them to get hammered.

Stephanie thanks Everett for the offer but says she has a big day tomorrow and he has a very early one, so they can’t risk another all nighter. Everett responds that he’d risk an all nighter with her any day. Everett says he thought their discussion was really important and that maybe they understand each other a little bit better. Stephanie thinks they do. Everett says as they were lying in bed, all the Seattle memories were flooding back to him as he was remembering how in love with each other they were and how much fun they had. Stephanie jokes about when they got sick at a restaurant. Everett says he loves every memory with her including that. Everett talks about the first time that he told her that he loved her and how it took three weeks for her to say it back to him. Everett says when she did, it was the happiest moment of his life. Everett reminds her that he is still in love with her.

Brady asks Theresa not to be upset with him, but admits that he did tell Marlena. Theresa questions why he did that. Brady knows he shouldn’t have but says he needed to tell someone because he was worried about her and Tate. Theresa complains that Marlena already thinks she’s a colossal screw up. Brady argues that she’s a psychiatrist so she understands addiction and doesn’t judge. Brady promises that Marlena was just concerned. Brady asks Theresa not to be upset with him and apologizes. Theresa decides it’s okay but she’s sure Marlena told John, though he’s a really good guy too. Brady swears they won’t tell anyone. Theresa knows he’s right. Theresa brings up when they had their town house and recalls a time when she came over and interrupted Marlena and John. Brady bets she never made that mistake again which Theresa confirms. Theresa says the way John and Marlena look at each other is heart melting. Brady agrees. Theresa comments that her and Brady used to look at each other like that once upon a time. Brady acknowledges that but says now she’s with Alex and he really hopes that’s going well. Theresa doesn’t think he does. Brady insists that he does but Theresa thinks Brady wishes what she wishes, that they could’ve somehow made it work and they could’ve been the next John and Marlena.

Everett apologizes to Stephanie for not resisting the urge to declare his love for her again since he knows it makes her uncomfortable. Everett says he’s not waiting for her to say it back like last time. Stephanie comments on it being hot in here. Everett understands she has to go but Stephanie instead asks if his offer for liquor bottles and dinner is still on the table. Everett say it is. Stephanie says good because they need to discuss the whole friends thing. Everett knows he has trouble with boundaries but promises to stop. Everett knows he keeps breaking that promise. Stephanie says it’s not that and admits the whole friends thing isn’t working for her either.

Ava drunkenly tells Stefan how everything was really great for her and Harris when they came back from London and she was the happiest she had ever been, but then Clyde had to come along. Ava then remembers that Tripp has tequila, so they could do shots which they then do. They end up dancing together and spill some wine on Stefan’s clothes. Stefan says it’s fine as his clothes are like the rest of his life, one big hot mess. Ava goes to get him something to change in to and comes back with her robe which Stefan refuses as he removes his shirt. Ava tells Stefan not to sit on the couch with his wet stained pants so Stefan takes his pants off instead.

Everett asks what Stephanie means by the friend thing isn’t working for her. Stephanie instructs him to give her one of the mini bar bottles and chooses the rum which they then drink. Stephanie then tells Everett that after their conversation last night, all she could think about all day was how great it was when they were together in Seattle. Stephanie mentions their late night talks, how he made her laugh, and the sex. Stephanie decides she’d like to have more of those moments. Stephanie then turns out the light and says she wants to start now. Everett asks if she’s sure as they then kiss.

Brady doesn’t know if he ever thought he and Theresa could be the next John and Marlena as he doesn’t think any couple could reach that bar. Brady thinks Theresa is idealizing what they had a bit much and says they were a hot mess. Theresa feels they had good times but Brady argues that it wasn’t real as they were more addicted to each other. Brady apologizes. Theresa says there’s no need to be sorry if that’s how he remembers it. Brady admits he remembers some really nice times too, but that was then and they are different people now.

Maggie, Konstantin, Xander, and Sarah finish dinner. Maggie compliments the meal while Konstantin remarks that Xander is lucky to have Sarah. Sarah clarifies that the dinner was all Xander as he spent all day in the kitchen. Konstantin then says good for him and admits he enjoyed the meal very much. Maggie asks where Xander learned to cook. Xander explains that his mom taught him and that the most important ingredient is patience. Konstantin questions Xander being raised in Scotland, noting that he only knows him from his reputation in Greece where he did “business” with his father. Konstantin remarks that it explains a lot which Xander questions. Konstantin says he’s always found Scottish people to be cold and harsh. Sarah holds Xander back as Konstantin talks about growing up in Greece and learning the value and importance of being a man’s man. Xander remarks that he would never take advantage of a recently widowed woman. Konstantin resents his comments but says he will take the high road. Konstantin warns that Xander greatly underestimates him. Xander says no one could ever do that. Konstantin tells Maggie it’s time to go but Maggie says it’s not. Konstantin declares that he will not stay anywhere where he is so greatly disrespected. Maggie tells him to order a car then and she’ll see him at home. Konstantin says thanks for a memorable evening and storms out. Konstantin pulls the card out of his pocket and complains about these people and this town as he walks off. Xander apologizes to Maggie. Maggie says she’s sorry for bringing Konstantin and asks what she was thinking. Sarah hugs Maggie and tells her it’s okay.

John and Marlena return to the living room to say goodnight. Marlena tells Theresa it was nice to see her. Theresa stops them and says she knows Brady told them about her slip, so she just wants to say thank God for Brady for helping her get through it and now she’s back on track, going to meetings every day, and she’s determined to never let this happen again. John is glad she’s finally getting the support she needs. Marlena adds that they are there for her. John gets a text and says he has to get going on a new Black Patch client. Theresa says she should get going too so John decides to walk her out. Marlena tells John to be careful as he exits with Theresa.

Maggie tells Xander that she shouldn’t have forced Konstantin on him and she’s sorry it went so badly. Xander blames himself for going off on him. Sarah says it’s all over now but Xander says it’s not for Maggie since she’s going to see him at home. Maggie assures that she’s a big girl and she can handle Konstantin. Sarah asks if she’s sure since Konstantin was angry when he left. Maggie repeats that she can handle him and goes to say goodbye to Victoria. Sarah questions why Xander had to provoke Konstantin. Xander asks if he was just supposed to sit there while Konstantin ran down Scottish people. Xander notes that Maggie was clearly upset, so maybe she’s starting to see the light and realizing that this man who is basically living with her now is very bad news. Sarah feels the jury is still out on Konstantin but she thinks Maggie does need him right now, so she wishes Xander would accept that.

Ava tells Stefan that it’s getting late, so she should go to bed and he should call a cab. Stefan reminds her of her phone call this morning and admits she really got him with all the sexy talk. Stefan talks about her rubbing oil on her body and suggests he could help her finish the job as they start kissing and begin to undress to the words that Ava read in her romance novel earlier. They kiss onto the couch. Stefan asks what if Tripp comes home but Ava says not to worry as they are out late. Stefan then lifts her up and kisses her against the door.

Everett and Stephanie kiss in bed and begin to have sex.

Marlena tells Brady that she’s going to bed and asks about him. Brady decides he will stay up and watch a movie, suggesting Casablanca. Marlena asks if he’s in the mood for romance, noting that he and Theresa were getting along well which she’s glad to see. Brady acknowledges that they will always be linked by Tate. Marlena states that bond will never break and says goodnight as she heads to her room.

John goes to the park where he is approached by Konstantin. John tells him to take a hike as this place isn’t safe for him. Konstantin questions him being worried about him and calls that thoughtful. Konstantin guesses John is meeting someone dangerous. John warns that he doesn’t want to mess with him and asks what he wants. Konstantin thanks him for coming and tells him to sit down because they are going to talk.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

am I glad you’re home! Yeah. Glad to be home. Took forever to get here. What can I do? Hold me.

[ Sighs ] I kept picturing you on that boat in paris, in the dark. I should have been there. No. Come on now. You were in the hospital, recovering, and thank god for that. Thank god.

[ Sighs ] And there was nothing you could do anyway, you know. Well, there are few feelings in life worse than feeling helpless. Yeah. So, by the time we got there, um, the search-and-rescue thing, that was well underway, and, uh… and then at some point, dante came over… and he said that they couldn’t find them anywhere. And all I could think was, “there’s a mistake. That can’t be. It just can’t be.” It’s — not my spencer. Well, you were in shock. You probably still are. Yeah, I guess. Yeah , trina and I stoodon the — the deck of the boat for a very long time. She held on to hope so tightly. But then… as the search went on, I mean, we could both just sort of feel it slipping away. It’s good you were there for each other. Yeah, everybody was really supportive. And then curtis and dante, they took care of everything, every detail. I’m so grateful for that. I don’t know if I thanked them. I’m sure you did, but we’ll do it again. Kevin, I feel like I blinked and nikolas was gone. And then ace. And now spencer.

[ Voice breaking ] It’s like my whole family is just fading away before my eyes. Are you sure sonny’s not gonna come back anytime soon? Yeah, I’m positive. We walked in the door from puerto rico, he got a phone call, and he turned around and left. I hope the call is about whatever’s going on in paris. Yeah, I heard about that. You must be worried sick about trina. Yeah, well, I’m beyond worried. It seems the universe decided that one crisis at a time isn’t enough. Sonny and I… are lucky to be alive. What the hell is going on? Who is after you and sonny? Good coverage. Yeah. All we can do is be prepared. I’m hoping all of these precautions turn out to be unnecessary. For our target’s sake, so am I. Ok ay, well, it looks likeyou got things covered. I think I’ve got it under control for the moment, anyway. Great. Well, you know, if anything changes, please don’t hesitate to call me. I don’t want to do that. I know, but until I hire a manager, I’m the cavalry. So please call me. You got it, boss. Thank you, thank you. Oh, my god! Oh, hi. What are you doing here? Why aren’t you in paris? I would have let myself in. Um, I have my key, but, um… josslyn: Hey, what’s wrong? Spencer’s dead. Is laura back? She is. Come in. Is it true? Spencer’s gone. You think we can tru

I think we can count on his opportunism. You know, he doesn’t do anything that doesn’t work to his advantage. You and I, we’re in a position to help him. O’neill, the gun dealer, is not. Brennan gave us the right referrals, or o’neill would have never agreed to meet us. You know what, keep it short and sweet. If you can get him talking about his clients that have bought guns from him, great. If not, then we make the buy, and we spring our trap. Well, the threat of federal charges should be enough to make o’neill give up whoever bought the rifle that was used to shoot curtis. I hope so.

[ Knock on door ] Oh, my god. I am so sorry. Did I spill coffee on you? Not at all. How about you? Are you okay? No, no, I’m fine, I’m fine. Oh, gosh. This is not how I want to welcome people to my place. You own this place? Yeah. When did you change the name? Oh, recently. Oh. I used to work here when it was kelly’S. Really? I’m john. I’m embarrassed.

[ Chuckles ] Carly spencer. Is it too late to welcome you back? Not at all. And thanks. It’s good to be back. Well, en– enjoy your meal. Leo: Aunt carly! Oh, my goodness! Oh, it’s so good to see you. I haven’t seen you in forever. I know. You know what that means? I get an extra hug!

[ Laughs ] Aww! Hey, honey, why don’t you, uh, why don’t you go on in there and look at your book? I’m going to talk to carly about getting you some breakfast. Are you gonna talk about extra powdered sugar on my waffle? What do you think? Is this my first time or what? No, it isn’T. No, it isn’T. Why don’t you sit at this table right there? Okay? See ya. Thanks, buddy. What’s up? Just so you know, we’re not just here for the sugar rush. I wanted to check on you. Why? Well, I read the fashion article in the city gazette today. Written by gemma, someone or other. Gemma… she came by the office and asked me for a comment. Is that article out already? As of this morning. “Drew cain is leading withhis heart, not with his head.” Okay, this has nina’s fingerprints all over it. She quotes an anonymous source. Yeah, well, we know who that anonymous source is. I wish I could say I didn’t agree with you. I was really hoping that nina was going to try and make peace. That’s what’s best for everyone. Is that why you kept nina’s secret? It was “best” for everyone? If dex hadn’t warned usin time for sonny and me to dive for cover, I wouldn’t be sitting here telling you this story right now. Was avery with you? She was in her room. She didn’t know that we were in any danger. She thought the gunfire was fireworks. Thank god. Are you okay? Yeah. Just a couple of scratches. Oh, that’s more than a scratch. Are you in pain? No, no. It’s fine. Like I told the doctor, it’s nothing a good stiff drink can’t fix. [ Chuckles ] Does sonny have any idea who did this? Not that he’s talked about in any detail. You know sonny — he doesn’t really discuss his concerns. Right? He just gets very, very, very quiet. No, he doesn’t eat, he doesn’t sleep. He just moves on and deals with the next thing. I don’t know how he does it. I get the feeling, though, that sonny suspects that this was a second attempt by the people behind curtis’s shooting. Well, that means they’re not going to stop until they succeed. Oh, no, nina, don’t — don’t worry, though, because you know that sonny only works with the very best, and he takes every precaution. I’ve just got to remind myself he wouldn’t be where he is if he took chances. Right. And he wouldn’t have been there for so long. Right? So relax.

[ Chuckles ] You’re not going to be a widow anytime soon. Oh, ava. I don’t even know if I’m still a wife. And before I could even move… esme and spencer were already in the water. They had helicopters and divers, but nobody could find them. But they’re still searching. They can’t be rescued. It’s been too long. It’s impossible. But we can bring him home. No. The — the police, um… they don’t expect to find their bodies. They, um… they think that, um… esme and spencer were carried out to sea. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.

[ Sobs ] I’m sorry that I told you about spencer on the phone. It’S… that’s an awful way to find out. No, any time would have been horrible. It’s good to face the truth. Any update from the french police? They searched for the mandatory 48 hours. After that point, spencer and esme were presumed dead. Their… their bodies were, uh, taken by the current out into the english channel, and then… …they’re just gone.

[ Sobbing ] You’re gonna be fine, okay? Are you doing alright? I have to remind myself to breathe. If there’s anything I could do… there isn’T. If something comes up, just… it’s not going to. It’s good of you to come by, sonny. Laura?

[ Sighs ] This is very difficult for me. I-I get it. I-it’s not just about spencer. This is also about my brother. The way that you laid hands on him, that was unconscionable. I don’t think you know who he is. Oh, I do. I do, sonny, I know what he’s capable of. I thought I knew you. I thought that you were a different man. I am. Yeah, well, I’m sure that he goaded you. And I hope that you just lost control because you nearly killed him with your bare hands. I made a mistake. He — he played me. I went after him. I shouldn’t have done that. Is cyrus worth your trouble? I don’t know. But you are. Our friendship is. Or that’s what I thought. Look…

[ Sighs ] I think we owe each other the truth. So, I’m going to give it to you now. I ha ve had a lot of violenceand bloodshed in my life, and I can’t take it anymore. I won’t take it anymore. Friendship or no friendship. I get that. I hope you do. Cyrus: I h ave every right to be here! Impeccable timing. That must be your brother. Dex: I can’t let you in. It is not up to you! It is, and I’m not letting you in.

Call off your dog, sonny.I’m here to see my family. It’s not a good time. That– that’s why I’m here, so I can help my sister walk through this. You could start by respecting your sister’s wishes. I have nothing but respect for my sister and the profound loss she’s suffered. How’d you find out about spencer? I watched over spencer when he was in pentonville, and I continue to stay abreast of my family’s movements. Whether they wanted you to or not? I lament that I wasn’t able to protect spencer in the end. And I grieve with you and for you, dear sister. Nobody wants to hear that. Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted. Stop it! Stop it! This is not comforting me. Go. Just go. I-I just hope that you can find some comfort knowing that there is a coming glory. Oh! Stop it! It’s good that you’re staying here with sonny. We ll, I don’t knowhow good it is, but it’s safe. Guards everywhere. Avery’s happy to see her father every day. Yeah. Yeah, of course. Sonny’s such a great dad. Well, he talks about his family all the time, that’s for sure. Does he say anything else? Well, we don’t exactly sit down at the end of the day and chat about what happened at the office, you know? Does he, um, ever talk about his marriage? Oh. No. So rry, but he wouldn’t talkabout that with me, of all people, right? But I’ve noticed that he’s still wearing his wedding ring, though, so… oh, hey. Well, that’s something. That’s easy to take off. Yeah. So, if he’s still wearing it, there must be something inside of him that’s not ready to give up on our marriage. [ Chuckles ] I hope so. I-I really hope that things work out for you and sonny, I do. But… I just think that maybe you ought to… …prepare yourself for a life without him. No, I can’t think about that. I can’T. No, I can’t lose sonny. I can’t lose this family because they’re my family, too. I mean, I can’t lose willow, wiley, and amelia. They’re my world. I know. I know. You have that beautiful gallery. You have avery. I don’t have crimson anymore. And if I lose sonny and my daughter, my grandchildren, I have nothing. I wasn’t trying to protect nina. Really? Then who were you trying to protect? Because nina was the only one who benefited from your silence. Hey. You like animals? I’m not supposed to talk to strangers. Mm. That’s a good rule. I taught my son the same rule. But I did tell him that it was okay to talk to law enforcement. I’m agent john. Are you really from the fbi? Yes, sir. Then I’m leo falconeri. Hmm. Well, it’s nice to meet you, leo falconeri.

[ Sighs ] Alright. Whoa! Is this necessary? Can’t be too careful. I want to make a buy, not commit a robbery. Prepare for somebody’s capacity, not their intentions. Covering all my bases. No kidding. Buy me dinner first. No wire, no gun. Good start. So, who referred you? Malloy. But you already know that. How do you know malloy? Book club. You? Yeah, that’s what I thought. It’s probably neither of our business. Okay, so, we got a six lug magnum-length action, arca rail on the handguard, multi-chamber. Now, this baby’s accounted for two of the highest, longest verified sniper shots in history. Alright, let’s talk price. It’s not a negotiation. Since when? You’re paying for quality and confidentiality. This thing is untraceable. You’ll never know where it came from, and I’ll never know how you chose to use it. So, do we have an agreement or not? I heard the sirens from police boats, and I turned away from spencer, just for a second. He was saying something, but then he gasped, and when I turned around… he had — he had the strangest look on his face. He looked surprised, and — and he had fear in his eyes. And then I saw esme with the needle, and then she tried to come for me. And then somehow spencer found enough strength to grab her. And they both went in the water.

alright, let’s do this. What’s the routing numberfor the money transfer? Oh, I don’t do business on personal devices. It’s got to be an encrypted transaction. Okay, fine. Just give me whatever device you want to use, and I’ll make the transfer. I prefer human touch. I’m aware. You can make a transfer directly to my accountant. How quaint. Well, is he outside? On his way here? Afraid not. We’re going to him. You can call me leo. And there’s my mom, arguing with aunt carly. What makes you think they’re arguing? How they’re standing. What they do with their arms. Kind of like a threat display from an animal. Humans are animals. That is very true. What kind of animals are in your book? All kinds. Are there bears in there? Do you like bears? I do. Bears are smart, and they’re strong. I wouldn’t want to meet one in the wild, but I like reading about them. Drew had already gone to prison. Your accounts had already been frozen. Nothing that I knew could have changed any of that. Carly, all I could do was stop the damage that nina had already done from going even further. And the fact that you and ned were also victims of nina’s lies — that just didn’t matter? Of course it mattered. And have you forgotten how furious you were at me for accusing your husband? Because I haven’T. I haven’t forgotten. I think about it every day, carly. Then why?! Why would you shield the woman who was actually responsible? Nina stood back and let ned take the blame. Well, I never in a million years would have predicted that drew would remove you from crimson and replace you with carly. Yeah, he’s not the same person he was before he went to prison. He’S…harder. Putting carly in a position that you have held successfully for years, that just — that adds a lot of uncertainty and risk to crimson, that for no good reason… well, making me suffer is reason enough in drew’s book. Well, he’s making choices that he’s going to regret. That’s for sure. Thank you. You’re welcome. I’m just stating the obvious here. Well, I appreciate that, but I’m also thanking you because, you know, you don’t always agree with my choices, but you understand the reason behind it, and you don’t make me suffer. You don’t punish me for them. Oh, nina, nobody in this room has a monopoly on bad choices, you know. I’m just very grateful for your friendship and your loyalty, and I love you so much. And thank you. I love you, too. And you’re welcome. I shouldn’t be bothering you with this. I mean, you’re worried about trina. Well, I can worry and listen to you at the same time. And you’re still coming down from being shot at and attacked. Well, the first time somebody shoots at you, it does come as a bit of a surprise. But with time and experience, you kind of get used to people trying to kill you. You know, I’m very impressed by your resilience, more than you will ever know. But you must have been afraid in puerto rico. Avery could have lost both of her parents. I can’t always look out for sonny anymore, no matter how much I want to. And, ava, you have to promise me — please, please, promise me that you and sonny will always look out for each other. When we were in greenland and spencer went missing. Everyone lost hope. Not me. I didn’t believe he was gone. And now? I want to believe so badly, joss. But… …something tells me that this time… …this time there won’t be a happy ending. I meant no harm. I-I give you my word. Sonny: We all know what that means. Let me walk out with you. Laura, I’ll call you, okay? You may not believe in my spiritual awakening, laura, but I pray that you believe this. I cared about spencer, as I care about you. Yeah, okay. That’s nice. Let’s go. Come on. I gave you a pass on the assault charges, sonny, but just the one. I’m a believer, not a saint. That makes two of us.

You okay? Well, what are you gonna do? Are you gonna stay here, or are you gonna go back to paris? Maybe I could take some time off. No, I don’t even think I can go back to paris ever again. Look, I don’t want a new roommate. You should come here, and you should live with me again.

[ Sighs ] That is so sweet, joss, but, um, I’m gonna live with my parents for now, and I’m gonna take a semester off. I can’t even think about school. Like, all of this just seems so, like, trivial. Like, what’s even important anymore? I understand. It’s hard to act like there’s a tomorrow when you lose someone you love. Is that what it’s like when you lost oscar? Uh, kind of. Um… but, you know, he was sick, so it was peaceful in the end. It’s different than what you just went through. But, um, the feeling like you can’t breathe and, uh… the way that your heart actually hurts?

[ Voice breaking ] That’s the same. I feel like… …it took so long for me and spencer to finally be together. And then we finally were, and we were in a happy place. And then, like, in a heartbeat, all of that was over. Ned and I looked at the situation, and we made a judgment call. Exposing n ina wasn’t gonnahelp anybody or fix anything, and a huge blow-up would have just made everything so much worse. So, that’s what you and ned decided? Well, he took a little convincing, but, uh… actually, could — could youhold on just one second? The belitung island tarsier has the largest eyes in proportion to its overall body weight of any mammal. Those eyes are huge. Mm-hmm. They use them to look for prey at night. Who’s your friend, leo? This is john. Hmm. Hello, john. Uh, why don’t you go and wash your hands before your waffle gets here? He’s a great kid. Yeah. Is he on the spectrum? He has asd, yeah. So does my son. I’m — I’m sorry for approaching your boy, but I could tell he was getting agitated, watching you and, um, aunt carly. Oh, god. Yeah, I should have realized that he would see us out there and that would have bother him. It’s fine. I think I distracted him. Yeah, it looks like you did. Thank you for that. Um, how old is your son? He’s grown now, living independently. So, he’s doing well? He’s doing great.

[ Cellphone rings ] Would you excuse me a moment? Yeah, of course, of course. What’s the word? Nobody moves until I get there. Everyone and their cat knows you don’t go to a second location.

[ Scoffs ] Suit yourself. Lo ok, there’s got to be a waywe can make this happen right here, right now. You know, it’s unusual for a customer to make this hard a sell. Why does this deal have to happen before I leave this room? I thought I was paying for confidentiality. At the moment, I don’t know what you’re paying me for. Okay, well, that’s too bad. Sorry we couldn’t get this done. Hey. We’re done till you tell me who you really are. Remove your hand, or I will remove it for you. I forgot to ask you — have you talked to, uh, josslyn? Uh, not recently. Alright, you should go to her because she should hear about spencer from you. Go ahead, go ahead. I have a lot of protection. Everything alright? Yeah. It’s fine. I just wasn’t expecting you back so soon, that’s all. You got a problem with me being back? No, just — I’m a little jumpy, right? For obvious reasons. So, when you left earlier in such a hurry, was that about trina and spencer? Turns out spencer’s dead. No.

oh, my god. Sonny, I’m so sorry. Are you okay? No. Trina. Trina’s safe. What happened to spencer? He went over the side of a boat in paris. He and esme. Oh, I know how much you loved your nephew. I can’t imagine what you’re going through right now. I can’t do this right now. This will help you keep up your strength. Thanks.

[ Sighs ] Thought a little edge-cutter was in order. Yeah. I already regret losing my cool with cyrus, but the conversation with sonny was long overdue. Well, don’t beat yourself up over cyrus. What happened was understandable, especially given the loss you’re feeling. But I’m not the only one, am I? Esme was your niece. Kevin, I know you did everything you could do for her. We both did. Yeah. You know, the way she was with ace… I am never going to believe that that was an act. It wasn’T. Esme’s love for ace was genuine. That may be the only pure emotion she ever felt in her life. When nikolas took ace away, she was isolated, afraid… angry. And she chose the worst possible course of action. But I was the one who talked her into turning herself in for breaking into wyndemere. If I hadn’t done that — there is no way you could have predicted that would happen. You didn’t know that esme had regained her memory, and there was no way to know that nikolas would come back and convince spencer to let him run off with ace. There was no way you could know that. I hope you’re hearing me when I say that. I guess if I’m being honest, all I can hear is silence in a house that used to be filled with voices.

[ Sighs ] Yeah. Okay, so, uh, leo’s order is — is next up, and I did tell them extra powdered sugar. [ Laughs ] So… um, for what it’s worth… you’re gonna crush the crimson. I know you are. You’re — you’re wicked smart. Nobody can match your instincts. You make being a leader look easy. That’s why all the employees at the metro court are so loyal to you. And why you are going to make a whole new generation of customers fall in love with bobbie’S. Thank you for saying that. It’s just the truth, which I will never hide from you in the future. My other clients paid for silence, same as you’re supposed to. Yeah, well, we’re not your other clients. Sit. Yeah, you’re not as different as you might tell yourselves. Must be something in the water here. You know what? I’m under no illusion as to who or what I am. Wait a minute — what do you mean, “there must be something in the water here”? I didn’t mean anything. We’re not the only ones in port charles buying from you, are we? I can’t talk about my clients. It’ll end my business. Einstein, your business is over. You’ve been peddling guns stolen from the wsb. So, you have a choice to make. You can either tell us what we want to know, or you wait for the bureau to get here, and they’ll pick you up. And they’re not going to sweep this under the rug. What do you want to know? We need the names of every person who purchased a weapon from that wsb shipment. Freeze! Guns down! Drop your weapons! Put it down! Fbi. Drop your weapons now!

I didn’t want to makeyour night worse by being here. That’s — that’s not what I wanted. I’m sorry, sonny. I know how you feel about nina being here. It doesn’t matter. Nothing really matters. Wow. And spencer… ah, yeah. I’m so sorry. That’s just terrible. Trina must be absolutely gutted. I’m gonna — I’m gonna call her. Thank you. Does cam know? I doubt it. Um, the word hasn’t gotten out yet. We got to tell him. Cam. Hi, uh, it’s me. Um… I’m here with trina. And we have to tell you something. Um… we need you to hear it from us. You come and say goodbye to your aunt carly. She’s got to get to work. Yeah. Are you two done arguing?

[ Scoffs ] Sometimes friends disagree. Yeah. Carly and I haven’t been on the same wavelength for a while, but, uh, maybe, uh, pretty soon we can try and fix that. I think we’ve already started. I could tell. Your body language is better.

[ Chuckles ] You know what? You’re right. [ Laughs ] How’s this for body language? Come here.

[ Laughs ] Aww!

[ Laughter ] Okay, my colleague and I, we’re going to lower our weapons. Do that. Nice and slow. Look, man, I’m just a bystander. Shut up! Okay. So, I take it that you are the agent in charge. Don’t you recognize me, anna? Wait. Jagger?

[ Knock on door ]

[ Sighs ]

[ Gasping ] Hello, mother.

Billy: Hi. I’m sorry I’m late. How you doing?

Chelsea: I’m better now that you’re here.

Billy: Okay, so tell me what’s going on.

Chelsea: Connor just called. I don’t like the way he sounded.

Billy: I’m sorry. What happened?

Chelsea: It’s his grades again. His classwork is slipping. It’s so unlike him.

Billy: Well, I’ll go back to what you said a few days ago, right? He just needs time to settle in, to– to find a rhythm.

Chelsea: I don’t know. That’s what I thought at first, but now it’s not even about the grades. It’s how it’s all upsetting him. I mean, he’s so frustrated and embarrassed. He doesn’t understand what the teachers are saying, so then he goes to them to get help and he doesn’t understand it. He’s not absorbing it.

Billy: Chels, connor’s a very bright kid. I would go as far as to say, he’s ahead of the curve.

Chelsea: Well, that’s what we thought, but something’s getting in the way. And now, it’s really affecting his confidence.

Billy: Hey, we’ll handle it, okay?

Chelsea: We?

Billy: Yes, we. Always we. Now, did you talk to adam about this?

[ Adam sighs ]

Adam: This is supposed to be a specialized school that my son is attending, sally. Tuned into kids like connor who have unique emotional needs. They’re supposed to have faculty that’s trained to help them.

Sally: Yeah, and from what you’ve told me, they have an impeccable reputation, so I’m– I’m sure–

Adam: Look, shouldn’t they be on top of the academic issues, too? At least notice what this is doing to his mood? They should have identified the change, noticed what was causing it, and not let it get to this point.

Sally: Okay, look, maybe it hasn’t gone as far as you think? Okay, look, connor is an amazing kid who expects a lot of himself, you know? What if these is– these are just normal speed bumps that happen whenever school gets a little harder? How did connor sound when you talked to him?

Adam: I– I haven’t talked to connor. He called chelsea and chelsea called me. Comes down to who he feels safe talking to. And that’s not me.

Victor: Perhaps you misunderstood my question. What are you doing here?

Nikki: Victor, please. It’s nothing.

Jack: Yeah, nikki’s right. This is nothing. What is the problem?

Victor: First, you get the information out of my wife that our family was subjected to an enormous ordeal that’s none of your business. Then, you question me about it and now you’re here. What are you doing here?

[ Knocking on door ]

Tucker: I’m not here!

[ Knocking on door ] What?

Audra: Ooh, well, hello to you, too, tucker.

[ Audra sighs ] Hey… it’s me! Your dry skin!

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Tucker: It seems ashley flew to paris to confront the waiter in the café where we had our argument.

Audra: Hm. Shouldn’t you be thrilled? I mean, you swore it happened as you said. Or did they tell her something different?

Tucker: No. Just as I predicted, the waiter confirmed my version of events. Which you would assume would clear the whole thing up, right? Or at least inspire her to call me and apologize. But no, she called me–

[ Laughs ] She called me to accuse me of paying off the waiter.

Audra: Unbelievable.

Tucker: I know. Thank you.

Audra: Not ashley, tucker. You. You’re unbelievable.

Tucker: Why?

Audra: It’s bad enough that any of this surprises you, but the fact that it throws you into a snit like this? It’s pathetic.

Tucker: Thanks.

Audra: What happened to, “oh, I’m done with this whole thing, audra. You know, I put it all in my rearview mirror. Everything is behind me now”?

Tucker: That has not changed.

Audra: But every ounce of your passion is dedicated to ashley. It’s boring and insulting.

Tucker: This just happened, audra, okay? And I understand that it’s a laughable accusation. In fact, I laughed at her when she first accused me of it. Of course, I didn’t pay off the waiter. It just– it gets under my skin, is all. I’ll get over it.

Audra: No, you won’T. That’s the point. You know, ashley is so embedded in your brain cells, in all of your psyche that there is no way that you’re going to be able to cut off this connection once and for all. She’s always going to have a hold on you, isn’t she?

Tucker: Why do you care so much one way or the other?

Chelsea: I already spoke with connor’s advisor and the headmaster at the school. They said they’re going to come up with a strategy as to what’s next. They’re thinking maybe he has a learning difference, and that’s at the root of all this.

Billy: Well, there’s a lot of kids that go through that. I mean, even adults do. And it sounds like you and the school are doing the right thing.

Chelsea: Yeah, I hope so.

Billy: Are you sad for him?

Chelsea: Yeah, I am. I mean, going to the school in the first place was connor’s idea. And he was thriving at first. He was meeting all these kids that he became friends with, that he could relate to.

Billy: And we’ll get him back to that point, I promise you.

Chelsea: I don’t know how I’m going to do that.

Billy: Well, everything you told me about this school, it sounds like he’s in a good spot. And if there’s something going on with him, they sound equipped to– to figure it out. And if they do come up with that conclusion, they’re going to support him. Both academically and emotionally.

Chelsea: You’re right. I mean, they’re the pros, and connor can’t be the only person struggling. I just–

[ Sighs ] Billy, he sounded so sad. And his voice was so flat. It just– it reminded me of that time not so long ago when things were really awful for him. And the love of his mom and dad couldn’t fix it. It brought me back to that time, and it broke my heart.

Sally: Connor loves you. You know that. So please don’t read too much into it that he reached out to chelsea first. Look, he knows you, adam. He knows that you would do absolutely anything for him. Including just maybe–

Adam: Maybe what?

Sally: Getting angry at the school and making sure they know it.

Adam: Is that so wrong? I mean, they have one job, to look out for my son.

Nikki: Victor, I don’t know what you’re thinking–

Jack: No, no, nikki, I– I’ve got this. You don’t have to cover for me. Nikki’s right. There’s nothing covert, nothing mysterious about this. We ran into each other at an aa meeting.

Victor: What were you doing at the same aa meeting?

Jack: Perhaps you will remember that years ago, I fell into an opioid addiction.

Victor: What were you doing at the same aa meeting?

Jack: Aa is an important resource for all kinds of addictions, including pills.

Victor: You don’t say.

Jack: Nikki and I ran into each other at the meeting, we had some coffee, I walked her back here. That is what the hell I am doing. Simple as that. End of story.

When you shop wayfair,

Victor: Tell me, jack, you have a problem with me being concerned about my wife?

Jack: No. I want to know what part of your concern makes it all right for you to question my recovery and how I handle it.

Victor: Excuse me for a moment. You’re both addicts. You should be around him?

Nikki: Oh, victor, it was sweet of jack to go with me. This is where we simply say “thank you.”

Victor: For your information, I’m very happy that you’re still going to those meetings.

Nikki: Well, I– I need to. Not just for myself, but for everyone I love so that you all don’t worry about me.

Victor: Darling, I’m always worried about you. What happened today to upset you so much?

Nikki: You know that phone call you got last night at society?

Victor: What about it?

Nikki: That was about the fire at jordan’s prison, wasn’t it? And you didn’t say anything because you wanted to protect me.

Victor: It’s because I didn’t have enough information. I think this is the time when jack has to be on his way, right?

Nikki: Oh, yes, we’ve kept you long enough. Thank you again for escorting me back.

Jack: Anytime. Victor, always a pleasure. Nikki, let’s not let running into each other at a meeting be the next time we see each other.

Nikki: Oh, definitely not. Let’s arrange for a lunch.

Jack: Yeah, I’d like that.

[ Jack sighs ]

Victor: How’d you find out about the fire?

Nikki: Well, darling, it’s all over the internet.

Victor: Ah. I had wanted to tell you. It must have frightened you.

Nikki: Oh, it was shocking. A fire that large and so much damage? It just seems like jordan takes chaos and destruction with her wherever she goes. Apparently, she can’t just be locked up and forgotten, because now she is in my head and coloring every part of our lives.

Victor: She’ll fade out of our lives, I promise you. What I don’t like is that you need to confide in jack abbott. You know I don’t like it.

Audra: You don’t get to turn this around on me, put me on defense. This is about you, your fixation and your complete idiocy when it comes to ashley.

Tucker: It sounds like your fixation, actually. Why does it make you so irate?

Audra: Tucker, I left newman media for my future, okay? For our future. Because of your dramatic pitch that I should run glissade.

Tucker: I’m so sick of your I quit newman media story. That’s it. Nothing more to hide.

Audra: Oh, is this your offense as defense? I tell you you’re being a jerk and you’re accusing me of lying? Look, I told you, I saw the writing on the wall at newman media. I hit a dead end and I don’t do dead ends.

Tucker: Yeah, I’ve noticed.

Audra: And it wasn’t just the job offer. It was everything else you said.

Tucker: Which was what again?

Audra: Essentially…

[ Audra sighs ] …That I deserve the world and you want me to have it.

Tucker: Right. And you turned me down.

Audra: And I apologized.

Tucker: I seem to recall that. But you’re avoiding the question, aren’t you? Why do you care so much about how I feel about ashley?

Audra: Because before you got sucked back into her vortex, I could almost rely on you. Now, you bow to her every whim, which forces me to bow to yours. You know, I can’t believe I tricked myself into believing you meant a word you said to me.

Tucker: I did. I still do.

Audra: I’m what’s good in your life? I make your heart race. I’m the one you want to be with.

Tucker: Mm-hmm.

Audra: But here you are, desperately hoping ashley accepts your version of paris and she magically comes back to you. It’s insulting, tucker.

Tucker: Audra–

Audra: Look, I’m right here in front of you and I still don’t come first. That’s why I care. That’s why it matters to me, tucker. You know what? You can find someone else to jerk around while you pine away for ashley. You know, your goddess, your dream. I’ve had enough.

I have type 2 diabetes, but I manage it well

Tucker: Don’t go. Hold on. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. I’m sorry. You’re right.

Audra: I’m right about what?

Tucker: It was unfair of me to jerk you around like that. I meant every word I said about how I feel about you, audra. It’s– it’s profound. It’s like nothing I’ve ever experienced.

Audra: But?

Tucker: But you are right. This ashley thing does have a hold on me, but it’s not because I’m pining for her.

Audra: Then, what is it?

Tucker: It’S… I’m just afraid it’s going to be round two of her being convinced that I did something I did not do and then becoming obsessed by it. And she’s going to show up and she’s going to say, “why are you doing this to me, tucker? You’re just trying to punish me, tucker.” And then, what’s going to be next after this one? Call me petty, call me childish if you like, but I want her to confess that she is the one who has done wrong here, so we can be done with it all.

Audra: She’s never going to do that, tucker. Think about it. What did ashley do when that waiter backed up your version of the story instead of hers? You said it yourself. Did she call you to apologize? No, she didn’T. She accused you of bribing him. So, tell me the truth. Is she right? Did you do it?

Chelsea: I just want to run to connor’s school and hold on to him for dear life and tell him everything’s going to be fine. And tell him that his mom will take care of any problem he ever has for the rest of his life.

Billy: I hear you. Not very practical, but I do understand the instinct.

Chelsea: I know. But you’re right. He’s in the right place with the right people. He just has to trust that this is manageable and he has to work through it. And he’s got great friends there. He– he loves basketball, which keeps him moving. He just– he just has to trust his teachers that he’s going to get through this.

Billy: Any chance you told all that to adam?

Chelsea: I did.

Billy: Mm-hmm.

Chelsea: And I’ll give you one guess how he reacted. He blamed the school. He blamed the faculty. Oh, he even blamed walnut grove for not catching things sooner. And then he threatened to go straight to the school and pull connor out immediately.

Billy: Well, that’s adam for you, right? Any doubt of a situation and all you do is start a war. Except in this case, right now, connor is the one that’s going to get hurt.

Adam: The last thing that I ever wanted was for my son to feel like his father deserted him. But who knows? Maybe it’s already too late. I mean, look at where we are. He needs me. And true to form, where am I?

Sally: Here. Calmly talking it through with someone who thinks you’re a wonderful father.

Adam: Even though my son’s either worried that I’m gonna flip out or he just doesn’t even want to talk to me at all?

Sally: You’ll never convince me that your son doesn’t adore you, adam.

Adam: Gosh, I wish you had known my mother, sally. She was the best mom and the best person that anybody could have dreamed of. You would have thought a little of her magic would have rubbed off on me. I mean, how I was raised by that woman and became such a lousy parent.

Sally: Okay, enough. I’m going to stop you right there, all right? I cannot let you beat up on yourself like this.

Diane: Hi.

Jack: Hi.

Diane: Tough time with nikki? I’m– I’m sorry.

Jack: Nikki was doing just fine until victor showed up.

Diane: [ Sighs ] I’m sure that didn’t go over very well.

Jack: Yeah, he wasn’t happy to see me, I’ll tell you that. He insisted that I tell him what I was doing in nikki’s office, thinking I was up to something, whatever that was.

Diane: Well, what’d you tell him?

Jack: I told him a story about how I ran into nikki at an aa meeting, we went for a cup of coffee and I walked her back to the office.

Diane: Did he buy it?

Jack: Well, he dropped it, thank god. Look, sooner or later, keeping the information that I am nikki’s sponsor away from him is going to blow up in her face. I keep trying to convince her of this, but she says she doesn’t want to let him down. She doesn’t want to appear weak.

Diane: This is putting you in a terrible position, jack.

Jack: Oh, it was everything in me not to come clean when he pressed, but nikki was standing right there. I couldn’t just betray her. She’s fragile enough as it is.

[ Diane sighs ] Lord knows I could fill a library with negative things I could say about him, but no one can doubt the depth of that man’s love for his wife. I just wish she’d trust it. I wish she’d tell him what’s going on. Right now, this deception is freaking her out.

Diane: Well, selfishly, I wish she’d come clean for another reason. If victor finds out that you’re her sponsor some other way than from her, it’s not just going to blow up in her face. It’s going to blow up in yours as well. And then the epic battle between victor newman and jack abbott will start up all over again.

Nikki: You said you didn’t tell me about the fire because you wanted more information. What have you learned?

Victor: Nothing as of yet. But I don’t want you to allow that woman to drive you to drink again, all right? She’s not going to harm you again. I promise you.

Nikki: What if jordan set the fire as a means to escape? I wouldn’t put it past her.

Victor: I promise you this. If she comes around, tries to do any harm to you or to our family, she will not live long enough to regret it. I would’ve called yesterday.

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

When your gut is

out of balance,

Nikki: Why doesn’t your confidence spill over into me at times like this? You’re always so sure that no matter what happens, you can conquer it.

Victor: Yeah, I will. And so will you.

[ Nikki sighs ]

Nikki: Are you sure?

Victor: I’m sure, my baby, okay?

Nikki: Even when I’m not.

Victor: My sweet love, if you feel that you don’t have the strength, you lean on me.

[ Nikki sighs ]

Victor: Come on, my baby. I’m tired. Let me take you home, okay?

Nikki: As tempting as that sounds, I– I can’t go home yet. I have so much work to do now that audra’s gone.

Victor: Oh, well, I’ll just make a few phone calls and we’ll find a replacement for her in no time.

Nikki: Oh, thank you, darling, and I– I know that you could, but I’m already lining up candidates.

Victor: Are you not taking on too much?

Nikki: No, no. This is what I want to do. This time I want to personally vet them, not just on their skills, but compatibility.

Victor: Mm-hmm.

Nikki: So, I am fine. I want to work. I need to work.

Victor: Mm-hmm.

Nikki: You of all people should understand that.

Victor: I do. So, I’ll leave you alone now. I’ll be in my office if you need me, okay?

Nikki: Okay.

Victor: I love you.

Nikki: I love you.

Victor: Whatever happens, you come to me, all right?

Nikki: I will, darling.

Victor: All right. See you later.

Nikki: Okay.

Jack: Victor can be infuriating, but after all these years, it’s more about habit than it is about actual hostility.

Diane: Unless he’s provoked. I mean, it might just be habit for you, but for him, it would be very real.

Jack: Wow, you really are concerned I’m going to start world war iii, aren’t you?

Diane: Look, victor can be charismatic and charming when he wants to be, but I have seen up close what a bully he can be when he’s angry.

Jack: Yeah, you and i have both seen his ire up close.

Diane: I can’t believe I was married to him.

Jack: I can’t believe I was married to nikki.

[ Diane chuckles ] And here we are in our correct configuration.

Diane: Yes, but unlike victor and me, you and nikki have remained close. And I’m– I’m sure she’s glad she has you.

Jack: If somebody would have told me all those years ago that victor and I would tolerate each other enough to have a drink together, I would have laughed in their faces.

Diane: Well, maybe he’ll surprise you. I mean, you said yourself that he loves his wife very much. Hopefully, he’ll be as dedicated to keeping the peace as you are for her sake.

Jack: If I could just convince nikki to tell him why it is I am hanging around so much. Though it had to be difficult for her to watch me lie my way through that cover story, knowing how I feel about it. Maybe she told him after I left. Think I should text and find out?

Diane: Yeah, couldn’t hurt.

Jack: Got a voicemail from traci. Two hours ago. I asked her to call me with any news about ashley, and of course, I was too busy with nikki.

Diane: Is ashley all right?

Jack: I guess we’re about to find out.

Tucker: No, I did not bribe the waiter, audra, and I didn’t trash the place. Ashley will just– she won’t let up. I’m sick of it.

Audra: Okay.

Tucker: You weren’t there, she was. She witnessed everything that went down and she’s still acting as if she’s the injured party here.

Audra: Okay, just stop, okay? I can’t do this anymore. I am done listening to you obsess about ashley. You wanted to know why I care so much? I told you. You say that you want me, and always, forever. But I am still standing here when I could have walked out that door. And still, the only thing on your mind is ashley. You know, it’s time for you to pick a side. Right here, this minute.

Tucker: What are you saying?

Audra: Either cut ashley out of your life once and for all or never see me again.

Billy: Look, maybe it’s best I just butt out at this point.

Chelsea: What? No. Why? You’re a great sounding board.

Billy: Maybe, but I cannot be objective when it comes to adam. I’m sorry.

Chelsea: Billy, you didn’t say anything shocking. You just don’t want adam to fly off the handle and make things worse for connor.

Billy: No, I don’T. I’m not saying he doesn’t love his kid. Of course, he does. I wouldn’t doubt that for a minute, but–

Chelsea: No, of course not. I mean, I trust that adam loves his child very much. What I don’t trust is adam’s judgment when it comes to taking a beat before reacting, especially when it involves his son.

[ Sighs ] I told him we just have to stay calm and try to not make things worse for connor.

Billy: Is he going to listen to you?

Chelsea: Probably not. Adam’s probably already halfway there.

Sally: Do you want to know what I think?

Adam: Please, tell me.

Sally: I think you’re a pretty great dad. You’re supportive, unselfish.

[ Adam sighs ]

Adam: How do you figure that?

Sally: It’s not as if you sent connor away, adam. He chose a school that he thought could help him. You and chelsea looked into it. You made sure that it was what he needed. And even though it’s miles away, you showed him that you have faith in him. You trust his judgment and you respect his feelings. And ever since then, you have been in constant contact with him, calls, visits, video chats.

Adam: Yeah. And sometimes it’s still not enough. For me, you know, not for him. I miss my son.

Sally: That’s my point. You could have been selfish and said, “I don’t care what you want. I want you here in genoa city.” And other than this current bump in the road, connor has been loving every minute of it. Look at that gift that you gave him.

Adam: I know. It’s just– it’s so hard to know what is right. Like, am I going to find out in a few years when he says he never wants to see me again?

Sally: It’s never going to happen. I grew up without either one of my parents because they couldn’t be bothered to stick around. Do you know what it would mean to me if just one of them cared enough to show up and stand by me the way that you are standing by connor? So, don’t you dare think that it doesn’t matter to him. I can see it every time he looks at you. It matters more than you can ever imagine.

Traci: I’m so worried about her. She’s not answering her phone. If you hear from her, will you please let me know? And I will do the same for you.

[ Traci sighs ] Oh, jack. All right, um, I love you. Bye.

Jack: Damn it.

Diane: Nothing from ashley in there?

Jack: No missed calls, no voicemails, no texts.

Diane: This must have shaken her to her core.

Jack: And the waiter confirmed tucker’s version of the story of what happened at the cafe. How is that possible?

Diane: Well, only two ways I can think of. Either ashley is misremembering–

Jack: No. Look, there is no way she would make up an encounter like that.

Diane: Or tucker has found a way to pay off the waiter to back him up.

Tucker: I don’t react well to ultimatums, audra. You know me better than that.

Audra: Trust me, I know. I know you better than you know yourself.

Tucker: Oh, yeah?

Audra: Yeah.

Tucker: If that were true, then you’d understand why I’m so conflicted here.

Audra: Oh, I understand perfectly. You’re so conflicted because you’re too stubborn to accept the fact that ashley is just a fantasy, an imaginary ideal you refuse to let go of. You know, she’s not your reality. I am. Or at least. You keep telling me that. But I know what this is really about.

Tucker: Do you?

Audra: Yeah.

Tucker: Enlighten me.

Audra: You’re clinging to this whole ashley thing not because you love her, but because you can’t stand to lose. It makes you crazy. It turns your image of yourself upside down. Well, deal with it. Right here, right now, you are losing. You’re losing big. You’re losing me.

Tucker: No, no, no. Don’t go.

Audra: Then make a damn choice. I love your dress.

Tucker: Audra? I choose you.

Billy: Hey. What are you thinking right now?

Chelsea: I’m just thinking I am glad I didn’t run off to see connor when I was upset. I’m grateful you talked me down.

[ Sighs ] The problem is, no one is going to be able to calm adam down and I’m scared of what he might do in the name of protecting his son.

Billy: We’ll handle it, okay? We’ll handle it together, no matter what. And just to be safe, we’re not going to do coffee for the rest of the day, okay? Tea maybe, but no more coffee.

Chelsea: [ Chuckles ] Deal. You know, you’re really, really good for me.

Billy: Correction, we’re good for each other.

[ Chelsea sighs ]

[ Phone ringing ]

[ Phone ringing ]

Traci: Oh. Jack, you got my message.

Jack: Please tell me you have heard from ashley.

Traci: I have, finally. She just called a few minutes ago. She apologized for running out on me. She said she needed time to process and to plan.

Jack: Process and plan? What does that mean?

Traci: I have no idea, but she’s on her way back here to meet me at the bistro.

Jack: Wait, is that a good idea, going back there?

Traci: I wasn’t going to argue with her, jack.

Jack: Is she hoping to get a different answer from someone on staff there?

Traci: Well, if she is, I wouldn’t count on it.

Jack: Diane suggested that maybe tucker worked out a deal with this guy.

Traci: You know, ashley thought the same thing and she is trying desperately to believe it.

Jack: You don’t sound too convinced, though.

Traci: [ Sighs ] I’m not– I’m not sure of anything right now. Except this, I will watch out for our sister. And I will keep you posted. And I think I’m going to do a little investigating of my own.

Jack: Okay. Just be careful and be safe. We are talking about tucker mccall here.

Traci: [ Scoffs ] Will do. Love you.

Jack: Much love right back. Ashley is on her way to the cafe to meet traci there.

Diane: At least we know they’ll be together.

Jack: Oh, some part of me wants to get to the airport and fly to paris to be there for my sisters. Another part of me realizes nikki needs me here right now.

Victor: Hi. Listen to me. I want you to keep an eye out for my wife at all times. And I want you to make sure that she is safe. Is that clear? Another issue. Until we have a list of all the people who died in that fire up in oregon, I want you to keep a very, very close eye out for any glimpse of that woman, that jordan woman. You know who I’m talking about, right? You inform me as soon as you even get a glimpse of her. Is that clear? Okay.

[ Phone ringing ]

[ Phone ringing ]

Nikki: Hello.

[ Big band music plays ]

[ Phone ringing ]

[ Big band music plays ]

[ Phone ringing ]

[ Ringing continues ] Oh, god! I can’T. I can’T. I can’T. I can’T.

[ Nikki sighs ]

Announcer: Next week on the young and the restless…

Tessa: I was surprised that you wanted to meet with just me and not mariah.

Abby: I have a proposition for you.

Danny: I haven’t seen you since, uh…

Christine: Since I saw you kissing phyllis.

Victor: Baby?

Nikki: Oh, god, victor.

Victor: Yes.

Nikki: Oh, no. No, no, no. What did you do?

Thomas: Let’s do it, hope. Spend our life together. Take that ring off your necklace. Put it on this finger. The way we look at each other. We love each other. We want this. Raising the kids together, husband and wife. Say yes, hope. Say you’ll marry me.

Eric: Well, here’s what I’m hoping for. A positive prognosis tomorrow when we see the doctor. That’s what I want.

Donna: But you had some good ones back at the hospital.

Eric: I know positivity is very important. And I feel better. I feel– I feel better every day. I really do. Although, it’s, uh… it’s not like I’ll be running a marathon again very soon.

Katie: Again?

[ Donna scoffs ]

Eric: All right, ever, if you want to get technical about it. No, no, I do– I do feel better every day. That’s a good sign, right?

Donna: Of course, it’s a good sign, yes. Look, all the tests and the blood work and the meds, it’s all gonna be worth it.

Eric: Yeah.

Donna: Because this procedure worked and tomorrow, you’re gonna have a good prognosis.

Katie: You’ve been through so much. You both have. If anyone deserves a little good news, it’s the two of you.

Luna: First night in your new rental. You excited?

Rj: Yeah. Less about the place, though. More who I’m with.

Luna: Well, what I’m excited for is that we get to finally be alone together.

Rj: Finally.

Luna: Finally. [ Chuckles ]

[ Knocking ]

Rj: I’m just kidding. I’m joking.

Luna: Oh, my god.

[ Both laughing ]

Rj: We are absolutely… alone.

Katie: There’s no reason to think that tomorrow won’t be good. You’ve been back to the hospital several times now for check-ups, and finn is taking remarkable care of you.

Donna: Yeah, he certainly is. And I am eternally grateful to him and bridget.

Katie: Yeah.

Eric: Yeah, we all are. And we will continue to be.

Donna: You are not going anywhere, okay? You still have a lot more living to do, okay? Come here.

Rj: You know, I remember the first time that I met you.

Luna: What, at um, at your grandfather’s house?

Rj: Mm-hmm. I tried to hide it, but you took my breath away.

Luna: Well, I was too busy being a nervous intern walking into the forrester estate, so…

Rj: You know, I knew there was something special about you. I just had to prove it. Like, I just had to figure out what it was, but… now I’ve got all the proof I need. I feel so close to you.

Luna: I feel close to you, too. I always feel so safe and secure whenever I’m with you.

Hope: I adore you. And you are so, so important to me in my life. But thomas, I– I asked for some time and I still need some time.

Thomas: It’s okay. I understand.

Hope: Do you?

Thomas: Yeah, no, I do. We have plenty of time. Look, when you say yes, I want you to be fully committed to the idea of us. 100% in. And that’s gonna happen. I know it, ’cause I– I can see how we look at each other, how we love each other. Hope… I know we’re gonna spend the rest of our lives together. Hey… it’s me! Your dry skin!

Thomas: How settled in are you?

Hope: What do you mean?

[ Thomas clears throat ]

Thomas: Just, uh, I’m wondering if I can convince you to head over to granddad’s with me.

Hope: Of course, but is something wrong? I mean, I know he’s getting some news from the doctor’s tomorrow.

Thomas: Yeah, no, I mean, I don’t think anything’s wrong. Uh, look, my dad texted, and he was planning on going over to granddad’s with your mom, actually, but they’re stuck on one of those international calls that never ends, and so he asked me to go instead.

Hope: Well, I’d be happy to. And honestly, I think eric is probably feeling a little nervous about whatever he’s gonna find out tomorrow, so I’d love to be there for him. It would be nice for us to show a little family support. What? [ Laughs ]

Thomas: Just you. You’re so beautiful. Inside and out. It’S… every time I think about you, I think about your name, and… I know it’s cheesy. It is, but I want hope. Hope for the future. And that makes me think about the hope for our future. The future that we’re gonna share someday.

Zende: I was thrilled to get your text. I was like, party across the courtyard? Of course, I’m walking over.

Eric: No, no, I didn’t say “party,” I didn’t say that. I just thought if he wasn’t busy, he could…

Donna: Uh-huh. What’s this about a party?

Eric: No, well, ridge called and said that thomas might be coming over. And I thought that since katie’s here already, that we could just kind of have a get-together like that.

Katie: Well, I say, yes. Let’s turn the music on. This place just got a lot more interesting.

Donna: Okay, okay, all right. You should be resting.

Eric: Yeah.

Zende: It looks like I got you in trouble, granddad. Maybe I should just head on back to the office.

Eric: No, no, no, no. We have something to celebrate. I’m going to the doctor tomorrow, I’m gonna get a positive prognosis about all this stuff here.

Zende: Yeah, you got this, granddad.

Eric: Yeah, I do. Especially surrounded by this wonderful family.

Zende: Is rj coming too? I assume you texted him.

Eric: No, rj has plans tonight. Something with luna.

Luna: Mm, that was so good. Thank you. I mean, delivery from my favorite restaurant? You’re getting all the brownie points tonight.

Rj: I do have a confession, though. I was nervous about that order. I didn’t know if I got it right.

Luna: No, you did good. I mean, you know me so well.

Rj: Yes, I do. I, um, yeah, I still feel like I have a lot to learn, though.

Luna: What, about my food preferences?

Rj: Yes, yes. Those specifically. Just– you’re just beautifully fascinating.

Luna: Fascinating?

Rj: Yeah. [ Chuckles ] You know, I’ve– I’ve traveled the world and I’ve met so many people. Nobody has been able to capture my imagination and my heart like you do. You jimmys john’s still waking up

[ Hope laughs ]

Hope: I mean, it still amazes me. Every time we come in here, it’s like you’re happier and healthier than ever. I still couldn’t believe it when we walked in the other day and you were playing the piano.

Thomas: I know. Best feeling ever.

Eric: I got through a little bit of it before I had to quit.

Thomas: You definitely did.

Eric: Well, I’m doing better. I’m just– I’m not completely cured. I think I have a long way to go. I really do.

Donna: Well, hopefully when we hear from finn, it’ll be the first step in the right direction in a full recovery.

Eric: Yeah.

Hope: Um, actually, do you mind if I text rj and invite him over? I just– I think he would really love to be here.

Katie: I think he has plans tonight.

Eric: Yeah, a special evening with luna that I insisted he not change.

Thomas: Ah. Is he, uh, settling into the new digs?

>>Donna: Didn’t he, uh, rent from bill spencer?

Hope: Yep, the beach house.

Zende: Lucky for rj.

Eric: I agree with that. I think that’s terrific. I mean, any young person needs to move out of their parents’ house sooner or later. And with what’s going on with– with him and luna, you can imagine the, uh, the memories they’re gonna make. Young love. It’s wonderful.

Luna: I cannot believe my life right now. I mean, is this– is this really happening? I– I– I– get an internship at forrester, which is like my dream job. And then what happens? I meet the coolest guy. The guy that I just walked hand-in-hand with at the beach. In malibu. Malibu. Like, is this really happening right now? It’s like… in the blink of an eye, my entire world shifted.

Rj: I feel the exact same way. My world shifted, and… god, you’re just beautiful.

[ Luna gasps ]

Luna: Oh, my god. How did you…

Rj: I, uh, I just– I just wanted this to be beautiful. I wanted it to be everything that you ever imagined.

Luna: You’re everything I ever imagined. So kind and handsome and funny. Who understands me and… trusts and respects me. And loves me.

Rj: I love you.

Luna: I love you too. Hi, I’m greg.

Eric: Look at me waxing on about, uh, young love. Sometimes, the love you find later in life can be even more fulfilling, darling.

Thomas: Hey, zende.

Zende: Yeah?

Thomas: Did you, by chance, uh, get those designs over to rj, like I asked?

Zende: I did.

Thomas: Yeah? I actually got a good look at his new love shack. I was a bit surprised to learn that rj is renting a multimillion dollar house on the beach. He’s, uh, he’s an incredibly lucky guy, so I guess you can’t blame him for that, right? Everything just seems to fall into his lap. Including luna.

Hope: Oh. Well, I’m sure luna feels lucky to be with a sweet man like rj, and it is pretty clear that they care about each other.

Zende: Sure. Yeah, clear as day.

Luna: Rj, that was… wow.

Rj: Are you okay?

Luna: Yeah. That was amazing. You were amazing. I used to dream about this, you know? My first time, and what it would be like. But what we just shared, that was… that was more than I could have ever imagined.

Rj: You’re so beautiful.

Luna: I’ve never felt closer to anyone than I do to you right now. I just– I want you to hold me in your arms and never let me go.

Rj: I love you.

Luna: I love you too.

Transcript provided by Thane and Suzanne

THIS STILL NEEDS SOME EDITING!

Well, Doc, after the day I had, that dinner really hit the spot. Thanks.

It’s especially good when it’s delivered warm right to your front door. I’m sorry you had a rough day.

Mm. I’m just putting out fires. How about you?

The same.

Yeah. Listen to that.

Oh. Silence.

Beautiful, isn’t it?

Oh, you would not believe the day I’ve had. I spent the whole day just putting out–

Fires? Yeah.

Yeah.

So what can I get you, kid? I got plenty of leftovers from dinner. Would you like some?

No. You know what? I could probably use one of those non-alcoholic beers, but I think we’re out.

Actually, I picked up some on the way home, so I’ll be right back.

Dad, thanks.

Yeah.

Believe him? Everything that’s on his plate, and he’s thinking about me.

Your father is a very kind man.

Yes, he is. I kind of wish I had his generosity of spirit. And I also wish I was as good a dad as he is.

[soft dramatic music]

And we just need one more.

You, me, Maggie–

[tense music]

My mom is bringing someone.

When did that happen?

When you were in the shower. It’s Konstantin.

Well, then, we don’t need an extra space, love, because Konstantin is one man that I will not share a dinner table with.

What is this thing? What does it mean to Steve and to John?

[knocking]

Hey, you almost ready? We should be going.

Come in.

The car is out front. I don’t want to keep Sarah and Xander waiting.

Are you sure this is a good idea?

Why wouldn’t it be?

Well, Xander is not exactly my biggest fan, and for very good reason.

“She looked into his steely blue eyes, “now dark with desire and a longing that echoed her own. “He kissed her with a fierce intensity, “his tongue exploring her mouth as his hands touched her, caressing her curves.” Hmm. “As he lifted her up, she gasped, her breath ragged, “her legs wrapping around him as he pressed her against the wall.”

[knocking] Okay. All right.

Delivery for Miss Ava Vitali.

You’re my sushi delivery guy?

That’s me.

Oh, you don’t really look like a Gunther.

Fun fact, my middle name is actually Gunther. Stefan O. Gunther DiMera. But don’t worry, I took care of the guy. I tipped him even though the genius seemed to be a little confused on where to find the numbers on the doors. I hope you got enough in here for two.

Oh, you came for dinner.

Mm. [chuckles] No, I didn’t. Actually, I came here to drink with you.

Well, it seems like you already started drinking without me.

Yeah. Well, I don’t like drinking alone. And I thought to myself, I bet my little paisana– I bet she probably has a bottle of wine open by now. And lo and behold, so what do you say?

Do I really have a choice?

Come on. Come on. We can commiserate about how crappy our lives are.

All right. Look, I mean, what else do I have to do tonight? I’ll get you a glass.

I mean, this could be the nail in this guy’s coffin. I’ll be off in one second. I’m sorry, that wasn’t to you, Chad. Yeah. I mean, I really think this is going to be our Pulitzer. Okay, I’ll pick you up at : a.m. tomorrow. See you then.

[phone beeps] Hey.

Hey.

Hey. Sorry I couldn’t take your call earlier. I was–it’s been a crazy couple hours.

Clearly, a good crazy.

Yeah. But better seeing you. I’m glad you’re here.

I came because I couldn’t find my earbud. And this is the last place I remember having it.

Oh, yeah. Yeah. Okay.

Maybe it’s on the nightstand.

Yep. Good call. I don’t see it here. Not there.

[both chuckle] Oh, yeah. Hey, look.

Oh.

There it is.

I wonder how it got there.

I mean, these things are–you know.

Thank you. Wow, so you’re picking up Chad tomorrow at : a.m.? It’s like the crack of dawn. Where are you two going?

[soft dramatic music]

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

Brady, don’t be so hard on yourself. You’re a wonderful father.

Yeah? Is that why my daughter is indifferent to me now and my son’s in juvie rehab?

Here you go, buddy. Like I said, plenty of leftovers if you’re hungry.

Yeah, I’m good. Thank you.

Yeah.

[doorbell rings]

Oh, that’s probably Theresa. We have to sign some consent forms for Tate’s youth correctional wilderness trip. Hi.

Hey. Hi. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to interrupt your evening.

No, no, no, not at all.

Theresa, please come in.

I’m just here because I have to send this registered mail in the morning. You used to be able to do it online. But some tech-savvy teens hacked the juvie system, so–

Brady tells us that he’s doing very well.

Yeah. So we hear.

So we hear, yeah. I think we’re actually going to get to see him with our own eyes soon–a parental visitation.

Yeah, it’s going to be a very long few weeks.

Yes, I’m sure you’ve missed him so much. We’ve missed him as well.

Yeah. You know I think of all the times where I got really impatient with him or he would annoy me. My God, what I would give to just have him annoy me now and be able to embrace him and just tell him I love him.

[somber music]

Well, I understand very well not being able to forgive someone who put their daughter in danger, even if indirectly, which is why I don’t know whether Xander will ever trust me, let alone feel comfortable with me.

Well, you’re going to have to change his mind, Konstantin, especially since he’s going to be a very big part of my daughter’s life for a very long, long time.

Are you implying that I am also to be part of your life for a very long, long time?

Oh, no. No, I didn’t mean that.

What did you mean?

You know, it’s time to go. I don’t want to be late for dinner.

[soft dramatic music]

Come on, tell me. What are you and Chad up to?

Mm.

Hey, I’m your PR consultant. I need to know.

[chuckles]

Okay, okay, okay. I can tell you this much. We got a big lead about the drug crisis. And Chad and I are digging into it tomorrow.

I’m intrigued.

It’s got potential to be a major breakthrough– something that could get “The Spectator” national recognition.

Well, a recognition for you as well. I’m dying to hear more.

Well, you’ll have to wait till it’s in writing.

Fine. I will try to be patient. And now that I’ve got my earbud… I’ll be going.

Yeah. Wait. You have plans? I got a newly stocked mini bar chock full of those overpriced little liquor bottles. We could order some dinner. Stay.

[sultry music]

Mm-hmm. There you go. You want some?

No, I actually prefer to drown my sorrows on an empty stomach.

Suit yourself. It’s good.

What you got there?

Cucumber.

What you got there? What is that? You’re doing a little light, uplifting reading? Are you? Huh? Rubbing the hot oil all over your body got you in the mood?

You know that phone call earlier– you know I was messing with you, right?

I knew that.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Okay, because it didn’t really seem like you did– not at first, at least.

Hmm.

Yeah. At first, it seemed like, you know, you believed me. And I kind of enjoyed that. I kind of enjoyed just making you a little crazy.

Oh, yeah? Well, that’s okay because I’m already halfway to crazy these days.

You really miss Gabby, huh?

Every minute of every day.

I–I can relate. I mean, that is, to, you know, missing someone.

Yeah?

Yeah.

RoboCop, you miss him? You don’t need–you don’t need to answer that question. I am sorry. Okay? How about I propose a toast? To lost loves… and new friendships. Can I call this a friendship?

Well, I mean, considering that you really annoy the hell out of me, and I can only–

Oh.

Yeah. I mean, it’s true. I can only stand spending about minutes with you until I want to pull my hair out. So yeah, I guess we’re friends.

Well, for the record, you annoy the hell out of me.

Oh?

That’s right.

Yeah?

You do. And hanging out with you makes me want to pull my hair out.

Okay.

Because has anybody ever told you what a tremendous downer you are? I mean, you are. Bah, bah, that’s you. That’s you.

[laughs] Okay.

But in spite of all that, I do consider you a friend– sort of, okay?

Okay.

You know.

Yeah.

So… To new friendships.

New friendships.

[soft dramatic music]

[melancholy music]

Okay. Here you go.

Great. Thank you. And we’ll talk later, yeah?

Yeah, yeah. Hey, how are you doing? Good?

Yeah, good.

Why don’t we give you a few minutes to talk?

No, this is your house.

It’s Brady’s home too, so we’re going to give you a little privacy, okay? Come on, Doc.

[tense music]

Why did Marlena just say she’s going to give us some privacy? Do they know? Do they know that I got high, Brady? Oh, my God, you didn’t tell them, did you?

Hello. Where are you going? And your answer better be to the store.

Maggie, please try to understand.

I don’t understand. This night is about me, my daughter, and my granddaughter, and not whatever bad blood is being stirred up between you and Konstantin.

Welcome to our home.

A gracious thank you.

So where are the girls?

Oh, Sarah’s feeding Victoria in the bedroom.

Okay. Well, I’m going to join them. You two behave yourself.

[sigh]

You have a lovely home– so warm and inviting.

Thank you. Let’s cut the chitchat, shall we?

[dramatic music]

Okay, then. What would you prefer to talk about? Politics, climate change, artificial intelligence and how it is transforming the world?

No, I want to talk about Maggie Horton– the best person I know, who I care about deeply. So if you do anything to hurt that woman–

Well, Mr. Cook, though I am weary of defending myself to you and other cynical people who are skeptical of my feelings towards Maggie, let me state once again, and unequivocally, and I hope for the last time, I also care very deeply about Maggie. And I would never hurt her, hmm? I am not the man you think I am.

Hmm.

Oh, my goodness. Did I just see pigs fly?

Okay. All right. You got to pick, okay? All right? You got to pick one here. I got to watch– hey, whoa, hey. Hey now, hey, whoa, watch yourself.

You watch yourself.

Okay. All right. All right, choose now. So Gabby– she is in prison like she is now, but it’s, like, for decades, okay? Decades. Or Gabby out of prison, she’s free… But you never get to see her again.

That’s a tough one.

Mm-hmm.

So what do you pick?

Set her free. At least I know she’s safe. We’re out of wine.

[chuckles] And here’s another bottle– convenient.

[laughs]

[reads label in French] Let’s just open the damn thing up.

All right, you do that. Oops.

[laughs]

I was going to drink that.

Ahh! Let’s get hammered.

[laughs]

[snorts]

Somebody snorted. * Somebody snorted *

Thanks for the offer, but I’ve got a big day tomorrow. And you’ve got a very early one. We can’t risk another all-nighter like last night.

Well, I’d risk an all-nighter with you any night. Just having you stay over here, falling asleep in my arms, and our discussion– you know, I thought that was, like, a really important one and that maybe we understand each other a little bit better.

Yeah, I think we do.

It’s funny. As we were lying there, all these Seattle memories were just coming flooding back to me. I–just remembering how in love we were with each other, how much– how much fun we had.

You said at that time, we both got sick on oysters at that new restaurant, that seafood restaurant? God, definitely not my favorite Seattle memory.

Honestly, I love every memory that I have with you, even that one. Do you remember a few days after that, we went to that bluegrass festival. And the sun was going down. We were walking along the water. And it was cold, you know? And so I put my coat over you. And that was the first time I told you I loved you. It took three long weeks of me saying it before you said it back to me. But when you did, that was the happiest moment of my life.

[romantic music] I meant what I said last night, Steph. I’m still in love with you.

Please don’t be upset with me.

Oh.

Listen. I did–I did tell Marlena. I did.

Brady, why would you do that?

Because I needed– listen. Listen. I know I shouldn’t have, and I’m sorry about that. But I was concerned about you and Tate. And I needed to tell somebody about it.

God, I mean, she already thinks I’m such a colossal screw up.

No, she’s a psychiatrist. She understands it. Hey, she understands addiction. She gets it. She doesn’t judge. She was just concerned. That’s all. I promise. Theresa, look at me please. Don’t be upset with me. Sorry.

Okay. Okay. Okay.

Okay.

So you told your stepmother, and she’s a really good person. And she’s a psychiatrist, so okay. It’s okay that you told her. And I’m sure now she’s told John too. But he’s a really good guy, too, so–

[sigh] Okay.

Theresa, they’re not going to tell anyone. I swear. I promise.

I know. You’re right.

[sigh] God. Do you remember when we had our townhouse?

[tender music]

Yeah, how could I forget that?

Do you know that there was one time when I popped over unannounced to– I don’t know– borrow eggs or something. And Marlena answered the door. And it was very obvious that I had interrupted something between the two of them–

Oh, no.

In the middle of the afternoon.

Yeah?

I mean, I should have called before.

Yeah, probably. But I’ll bet you never made that mistake again.

No, I did not.

[laughter]

It’s funny.

Oh, but the way they look at each other, it’s heart-melting.

It really is.

Yeah.

You know, you and I used to look at each other… once upon a time.

Yes, we did– once upon a time. And now you– now you’re with Alex. And I really hope that that’s going well. I do.

I don’t think you do.

I do.

No. I think you wish what I wish– that you and I could have somehow made it work. That maybe you and I could have been the next John and Marlena.

I’m so sorry. I– I should have resisted the urge to declare my love for you again, especially because I know it makes you uncomfortable. I should have read the room. Just so you know, I’m not waiting for you to say it back like I was last time.

It’s hot in here.

Sorry. I know. You know what? I’m just sort of– I’m just talking, talking, talking. You have to go.

Actually… is that offer of overpriced little liquor bottles and dinner still on the table?

Yeah, definitely. Sure.

Good. Because there’s something we need to discuss.

Uh-oh.

It’s not bad. It’s about this whole “friends” thing.

I know I have trouble with boundaries, obviously. I did it last night. And I’m doing it again, but I promise that I’ll stop. Except I keep breaking that promise, don’t I?

It’s not that.

What is it then?

This whole friends thing– it isn’t working for me either.

And then, so when Harris and I, when we came back from London, everything was really great for us. You know? Yeah, like, I was really happy. I was probably the happiest that I have ever been in my entire life maybe. Yeah. And then… I felt hopeful.

[jazzy music]

And then Clyde had to come along.

Mm. Damn Clyde Weston.

Damn Clyde Weston. That firetruck and Mickey Fickey figlio di puttana.

Oh, my God.

What?

Tripp’s got “qe-tuila”.

“Qe-tuila?”

Yes. We could do shots. Are you in?

Limes!

Yeah!

Whoa, whoa. Whoa.

[giggling]

Okay, okay, okay, okay. So–

[laughs] Yes, in honor–honor of those–whoa– those very happy times in London.

Are you about to–

There it goes.

I mean, what are you–

Come on. Ready? Are you ready? Are you ready?

Yeah, as I’ll ever be.

All right.

[mellow sultry music] Yeah.

[both grunt]

Ha-ha.

[laughter]

Oh, London Bridge is falling down, falling down, falling down.

Come on.

* London Bridge is falling down, my fair lady *

* Build her up with gold and silver * * Gold and silver, gold and silver * * Build her up with * Okay.

Hey!

* Gold and silver, my fair lady *

Oh, hey. Oh.

Well, damn it.

It’s okay. It’s okay. I’ll get you some of Tripp’s.

It’s fine. It’s fine. My clothes are like the rest of my life now– one, big, hot mess.

Here, put this on.

[laughs]

That’s Tripp’s?

This is the first thing I could find.

That’s a lady robe. I’m not wearing a lady robe.

Hey, whoa, whoa, no, no, no. Hey, hey. No, no, don’t you dare sit on that couch with those wet, stained pants.

Fine.

Hey, put this on. Whoa, hey, what are you– stop that. Stop it. No, don’t. Don’t. Don’t. Don’t take off those pants.

I got to. They’re all wet.

[exhales] Okay to sit now?

What do you mean? The friend thing isn’t… working for you?

Give me one of those minibar bottles.

[tender music]

The rum.

Mm.

So… After our conversation last night… All I could think about all day today was… how great it was when we were together in Seattle. Late night talks. How you made me laugh. Not to mention the sex was–

Incredible.

On the floor of your apartment.

Remember that time in Whidbey Island?

At the tulip garden?

I thought they were going to find us.

And just knowing they might made it that much more exciting, right?

For sure.

I’d like to have more of those moments.

Starting now.

Are you sure?

I don’t know if I ever thought we could be the next John and Marlena. Well, they’ve set the bar pretty high. I don’t think any couple could reach that. I also think you’re idealizing what we had a little bit too much. Theresa, we were a hot mess.

We had our good times.

Yeah. But yeah, when we were high.

It was more than that.

I don’t–it wasn’t– it wasn’t really real. We were more addicted to each other.

[somber music]

I’m sorry. I’m sorry.

It’s okay. That’s how you remember it. No need to be sorry.

Hold on. Hold on.

I remember some really nice times too. Some really nice times. But that was then, and we’re different people now. Aren’t we?

Well, that was a delicious meal.

Xander is very lucky to have you, Sarah.

Oh, you mean as a cook? No, that was all Xander. He spent the entire afternoon in the kitchen.

Oh, well. Good for you, Xander. I enjoyed the meal very much.

Where did you learn to cook, Xander?

My mom, yeah. Not only did she teach me a bunch of great recipes, but the most important ingredient in any meal is patience.

She sounds like a wise woman. How old were you when you left Edinburgh?

Oh, you were raised in Scotland. I didn’t know that. I know you only from your reputation in Greece and when you did “business” with my father. But you’re Scottish, eh? Oh, that explains a lot.

What’s that supposed to mean?

Well, I have always found the Scottish people to be– mind you, this is only from my personal experience– to be cold and harsh, not to mention miserly.

[laughs]

Xander.

You see, I was born and raised in Athena, the seat of the Greco-Roman Empire. And when I was a boy, I would scamper up the steps of the Acropolis two at a time. I learned to love, to dance, to debate. And by virtue of the teachings of my elders, my parents, and by the great Hellenistic culture, I learned the value and importance of being a man’s man.

A man’s man?

Yes.

Like a strong, proud man who would never take advantage of a recently widowed and vulnerable woman.

Xander.

A man’s man as in honest, someone who would never deceive and manipulate in order to live off said woman.

I resent those comments deeply, Mr. Cook. But I choose to take the high road to say only, you greatly underestimate me, young man.

Oh, no. No one could ever underestimate you.

Oh, dear God.

Maggie, it’s time to go.

No, it’s not time to go.

I will not stay anywhere where I am so greatly disrespected.

Well, fine. Order a car. I’ll see you at home.

Thank you for such a memorable evening, Sarah.

[tense music]

These people, this town.

I’m so sorry, Maggie.

No, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have brought him here. What was I thinking?

It’s okay, mama. It’s okay.

Hey, you two. Doc and I are going to shut it down for the night.

Okay. Well, good night then.

Theresa, it was nice to see you.

Good night. See you, buddy.

Hang on. Sorry. Before you go, I just wanted to– I know that Brady told you about my slip, Marlena. And John, I assume that you know too. And I just– well, I just want to say, thank God for Brady, the way he helped me get through it. I am back on track. I am going to meetings every day. And I am determined to never, ever let this happen ever again.

Well, Theresa, we are just really glad that you are finally getting the support you need.

And we’re here for you.

[gentle music]

I gotta head out.

What? Now?

Yeah, a new Black Badge client.

Okay, I should get going too.

I’ll walk you out, Theresa.

Okay.

John, be careful.

Always, sweetheart.

I shouldn’t have forced Konstantin on you. And after such a delicious meal we had, I’m sorry it went so badly.

No, Maggie, it’s on me. I should have kept my mouth shut. It’s just my stubborn Scottish side and my proud Greek side ran smack into each other. And boom, I just–

Well, it’s all over now.

Well, not for your mom. She’s going to see him when she gets back to the house.

Listen. Like I said to you repeatedly, I’m a big girl. I can handle Konstantin.

Are you sure, mom? Because he was angry when he left.

And so was I. I can handle Konstantin. And then, I really should be going. I’d like to sneak one last kiss from that sweet little angel first. Okay.

I know. I know.

I mean, why did you have to provoke him in the first place? What was the point?

What am I supposed to do, Sarah? Just sit there while he tells me that all Scottish people are harsh and mean and cold and cheap?

Miserly was the word he used.

It’s the same thing. Look, I don’t– I don’t know what Maggie’s thinking now. But she was clearly upset by all that. Maybe she’s starting to see the light, that she’s beginning to realize that this man who’s basically living with her now is very bad news.

Well, I wish you wouldn’t characterize him that way. I feel like the jury’s still out on that guy. But look, whatever his flaws are, I think that she does need him right now. So I wish you would accept that.

Okay. You know, it’s getting late. And I should go to bed. You should get out of here. Go call a cab.

[sultry music]

Do you know that phone call this morning?

You really got me with all that sexy talk.

Yeah?

Yeah.

Yeah. I know.

You, hand on your back, on your bed, rubbing hot oil all over your body.

I was thinking… Maybe… I can help you finish the job. You know?

I put you on your back.

Yeah.

I rub the rest of that hot oil all over your naked body.

[intense music]

[both panting] – “He kissed her with fierce intensity, “his tongue exploring her mouth as his hands touched her, caressing her curves.”

What if Tripp comes home?

Don’t worry about it. They’re out late. What?

I’m gonna take the chance. – “As he lifted her up, she gasped, “her breath ragged, her legs wrapping around him “as he pressed her against the wall. “She clung to him, breathing in heavy gasps as they both moved towards the edge of pleasure.”

[gentle music]

Oh, well. Sorry, I’m going to– I’m going to turn in. How about you?

No, I think I’m going to stay up and watch a little movie– maybe “Casablanca.”

Oh, you’re in the mood for romance, huh? And I noticed that you and Theresa were getting along. Well, I’m glad to see that.

Well, we’ll always be linked by Tate.

That bond will never break, you know.

[somber music] Good night, Brady.

Good night.

[tense music]

Take a hike, Konstantin. This place isn’t safe for you right here.

You are worried about me. How thoughtful. You must be meeting someone dangerous. Oh, what am I saying? Of course, you are, Mr. Private Eye.

You don’t want to mess with me. What do you want?

Thank you for coming.

Sit down, Mr. Black. You and I are going to talk.
