[ Chuckles ] But look — look at you. You’re a working man. Congratulations. Congratulations for what? Landing a job that requires no experience and pays accordingly? Well, everybody’s got to start somewhere. I didn’t start at the top. But you’re working, right? How does it feel?

[ Scoffs ] Like I made the worst mistake of my life. Good morning, austin. Hey, maxie. What are you doing here? Weren’t you here last night? Um, yeah, I was. But, uh, bobbie’s car broke down, so I decided to give her a ride to work this morning and I thought since I’m in the building, I would come and say hello. But if you’re busy… right. No, no. I’M… yeah, I’m sorry. Had a really terrible night last night. It’s nice to see you. Okay. Good. Well, this saves me a trip to the deception office. I need to speak with both you and dr. Gatlin-holt. Yeah, we’re kind of in the middle of something right now. Something more important than finding maxie’s missing daughter? So, gladys is running around town with brook lynn’s corporate credit card and spending it in decidedly un-corporate ways. And then she let slip… that she thinks that brook lynn is pulling a scam on you. How do you do it?

[ Chuckles ] You’re clearly exhausted and yet you remain incredibly handsome. Gladys, what can I say? When you’re around, I perk right up. Well, good morning.

[ Chuckles ] Wow. Mm. Mm. Now it is.

[ Chuckles ] I’m still so happy for you. The audience’s reaction to the artist was amazing. I mean, the savoy was already on its way to being one of the best spots in town. But last night, oh, that kicked it into another gear.

[ Chuckles ] Yeah, in more ways than one. What do you mean? I might have some unwanted help that I need to get rid of. Trina: Here you go. Of course, the same ad has been running online for weeks. I just wanted you to see a hard copy. Ha! This looks terrific, trina. And thanks again for bringing this project to my attention. I should be thanking you and elq for underwriting the exhibit. It’s so important to me, and I’m thrilled that we get to be the gallery that displays it to the people of port charles. You know, when you run a large organization, you’re constantly approached for donations because people know they’re tax deductible. But it’s always nice when the project is so well-intentioned. I’m proud to see elq involved with this. You’re also doing this for your wife, right? Because olivia’s a big animal lover? I bet you can’t wait to see her face when you bring her here tonight.

I would like to ask you both questions about the night your daughter, louise, was kidnapped. We’ve already given statements and answered a bunch of questions. That was before peter resurfaced and claims he has no idea where his daughter is. Which brings us back to square one. Our best shot at finding your daughter is to revisit the people who were actually there the night she was born. And since fake nurse chloe is dead, that leaves the two of you. How do you know peter’s not lying? Nina reeves said peter was blackmailing her to help him find louise. Doesn’t sound like something he’d do if he was lying. Peter is malignant and ruthless. There isn’t anything he wouldn’t say or do to pursue his own agenda. “Do to pursue his own agenda.” That sounds like someone else I know. Okay, that’s enough. I can see you’re letting your personal feelings towards austin color your investigation. Do I need to report you to mac? Oh, come now, gladys. [ Sighs ] I, uh, walked in on her kissing robert scorpio. Oh, no, dad. Are you sure you didn’t misinterpret? I’m sure. And of course, I reacted like a jealous fool and punched him in the face. For all the good it did. I think it’s time that I, uh, face the fact that my marriage is over. We’re friends. We’re good friends. But there’s also something more. I mean, it’s a pull. It’s an attraction. Call it whatever you like, but I know now that — that you’ve kissed me that we can’t deny this any longer. I know. You’re right. And going to monte carlo with you, it… it just made it stronger. You know, as I recall, you were having a problem back then. Well, ned and I have been having problems for a while. You know, I-I, uh… I can’t help but notice that, um… you and I are drawn more to each other when you’re having issues. What are you saying? You seem to use me as an excuse not to deal with stuff with nedley. Do you still think that that music producer linc guy showing up… wasn’t a coincidence? No, I’m convinced someone sent him here as a front. Look, think about this. The band that I originally scheduled to play here live last night… mm-hmm? …Out of nowhere, they canceled with a flimsy excuse. According to brook lynn quartermaine, linc is a pariah in port charles, and he conveniently shows up with an artist that’s eager to perform at a club that was recently in the news for mob activity. Well, when you put it all together, it sounds way too convenient. I think someone wants me to owe linc favor. Who do you think would have sent linc? I think it’s just like dante warned. I do believe the mob is trying to get a foothold in the savoy. So, what prompted you to — to get the job? My dad put ava in charge of my trust and I refused to be under her thumb, so I renounced my inheritance and all that goes with being a cassadine, including my father. Well, I respect your decision not to take the easy way out. You’re being your own person. That’s amazing, right? I’m proud of you.

[ Chuckles ] Thanks, but don’t be too proud. I-I was those close to crawling back to my father. I was planning on telling him and ava whatever they wanted to hear, doing whatever they wanted. What stopped you? A friend called me out.

[ Door closes ] Wow. Trina, this is so exciting. I still have a lot to set up before the showing tonight. I’m so stoked for tonight. I’ll be here to cheer you on. Spence and i have it all mapped out. It’s disney+ day, so we’re gonna be watching “jungle cruise.” Really? Us too. Hm! “Us”? Yeah, joss and me, and maybe cam. After the exhibit, we’re gonna go back to our dorm room, microwave some popcorn, kick back, and stream the movie. It’s the perfect way to decompress. Spence and I are gonna watch “jungle cruise” before the exhibit. Interesting how our plans are the opposite of yours. I wouldn’t say the opposite.

[ Chuckles ] I would. Which is probably for the best. Spence and I need to do our own thing. Great. Well, enjoy the movie. I still have a lot to set up. Oh, uh, if you don’t mind, I have just one question first. Okay. I need to know exactly what’s going on between you and spencer.

Yeah, she made me realize that I really do value my self-respect, which is a lot more compelling in theory than the reality of working an eight-hour shift here. Is this sensitive information that i should know something about? You have your own assistant, don’t you? Yeah. Well, if he or she isn’t keeping you well informed, maybe it’s time to find a new one. You could always poach me from brook lynn. Gladys, last time you were here, you said you had something important to tell me, and then brook lynn came in and ushered you right out. Well, she’s not here now. What did you want to say?

[ Sighs ] It was nothing important. What was it? I can’t tell you, because if I do, somebody could get hurt. I’m tired of fighting. I just…. I just want to be happy. I mean, is that so wrong? Of course not. Come here. But… you’re not gonna find it with me. Why not? You make me laugh. I know you care about me. Both true. But you made no secret of the fact that you followed my career. You like the adventure, the — the danger. In your eyes, I’m this…hero — this, uh, larger-than-life character, this… ideal. Robert, come on, that’s just a bunch of bs. I know I haven’t been a mother for very long, but I do know that if a doctor tried to tell me there’s something wrong with bailey, my first reaction would be to be scared. Come on, dad. We all know that olivia is a terrific mother. So instead of telling her what to do and leaping into action, maybe just try listening to her. You know, help her face whatever fears she’s having. Well, how can I when she goes running off to robert the first chance she gets? She’s your wife. Not robert’S.

[ Sighs ] You’ve got to figure this thing out. Or are you telling me that you’d be okay with losing olivia? I have felt alone so many times in this marriage, robert. I mean, when valentin was trying to do the — the hostile takeover of elq, and ned just kept putting this damn company in front of his family, and he had the nerve to — to be angry with me for going to europe to try to save my own son, because his daughter happened to be in the hospital at the same time?

[ Scoffs ] And then when he wrongly assumes that we are having some kind of an affair, what does he do? Does he — does he give me the benefit of the doubt? Does he ask me? No, he jumps right in bed with alexis. I thought you’d worked that out. Yeah, we tried, and for a while, it seemed like ned was becoming a man that I could trust again. And then this whole thing with leo happens, and once again, he cannot take my side. But he thinks the world of leo. That’s — that’s never been in question. The point is, he’s not being a partner to me. That the problem? ‘Cause from where I’m standing, it looks like you’re scared. I know I made a mistake, and I’m paying for it now. I got this humiliating minimum-wage job. I turned down ava’s horrible deal, which would have made my life much easier, but I didn’t want to be under ava’s control. I feel like I’m doing a pretty good job manning up here. What else can I do to prove it to you? You — you broke my trust, so it’s gonna take a little while to earn that back. Really? That’s all you have to say? You can’t even give me a hint where to start? Stop looking for shortcuts. I always felt that your — your father gave you too many privileges. This isn’t about shortcuts. This is about working hard. Gotta get used to that. So if you tell me what you know, someone will get hurt. Who will get hurt? Uh, I-I — no. I just mean gossip in general. I mean, when people say things they shouldn’t, others can get hurt. No, no, the other day you had something very specific to tell me, but then brook lynn showed up and rushed you away. So I think it has something to do with her. Is it something that concerns me? N-no, you totally misunderstood what I was saying. Gladys, I don’t know why you’re being evasive, but there’s something you should know. I can be very generous to those kind enough to help me. That’s good to know. Likewise, I can be very uncharitable to those who cross me. So you need to ask yourself, do you want to be on my bad side? Do you see the sparkling water? Uh, yep, I see it. Whatever happened with that mystery man? Tj’s patient, who also ran into me and then came here, always asking questions about you. Did he ever show up again? Not that I’m aware of. Why? I don’t necessarily know if it’s worth mentioning. I don’t have any proof. It’s just a feeling that I’m getting. All right, well, I’m a big believer in feelings. So go ahead. A man shows up in town asking questions about you. Yeah. And now the mob seems to be making a move on the savoy. Could they be related? I just don’t know. According to n’neka, the man asked just as many questions about live music as he did about me. And on the other hand, I can’t rule anything out.

[ Watch beeps ] Ugh. I gotta go to work.

[ Cellphone rings ] Hey, linc. I’m glad that you got back to me so soon. Congratulations on your big success last night. It’s all over social media. Yeah, I’ve noticed that. You know, I couldn’t have done anything without your last-minute save. Well, the savoy is a great spot. My guys really loved playing there, and I’m just happy I could connect the two of you. Well, that’s exactly why I called you. Why don’t you come down to the savoy today and we can talk about a potential future partnership?

You know what? There’s alwaysmore than one option in life. You ever considered apologizing to ava?

[ Chuckles ] You didn’t just suggest that. Well, you know, she’s not my favorite person in the world, but she is the mother of my daughter. And it’s not about, really, ava. It’s about you. So you’re saying that if I apologize to ava, you’ll trust me again. No, no, no, no, no. This isn’t transactional. If you apologize to ava, it’s because you’re gonna do it sincerely because you messed up, and you’re gonna own up to that. I have owned up to it. Really? Yeah. Okay, listen, your behavior has hurt a lot of people, including my daughter. You’re not a kid anymore. Do you get it? You can’t just excuse everything away. You know better than that, ’cause if you don’t, I can’t help you. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you were threatening me. Gladys, I don’t want to threaten you, I really don’T. [ Knock on door ][ Door opens ] Hey. If you’re up for it, valentin, I have a few questions for you. You — you have good timing, detective. Valentin and I are done. Do I want to know? Must be happy hour somewhere. What can I do for you, chase? How well do you know austin gatlin-holt? You really went after chase there, didn’t you?

[ Scoffs ] He’s only trying to do his job. I think chase is a good guy. I’m just sick of everyone being so suspicious of you. It’s frustrating. I mean, my baby is out there somewhere, and the police keep focusing on the wrong guy. Thanks. Really lucky to have you in my corner. Likewise. Excuse me. Gladys, hey. You okay? Uh, I’ve had the worst morning. Oh, sorry to hear that. Want to get some coffee? You can tell me all about it. Ah, not today. I-I got a lot on my plate. Okay, some other day. Okay, gladys, does brook lynn know you’re not in the office? You should really try lightening up, maxie, or you’re gonna need a ton of deception’s wrinkle cream.

[ Elevator bell dings ] Okay. I didn’t know you were friends with her. Of course I don’t want my marriage to end. I love olivia. But if we can’t get on the same page, what chance do we have? I know you want what’s best for leo, and so does olivia. Maybe if you guys come together on that common ground, go from there. Well, it takes two people to make a marriage work, and I’m really starting to wonder if olivia’s heart just isn’t in it anymore. Olivia: The only thing I am afraid of is spending the rest of my life in a marriage with a partner who does not support me and doesn’t trust me. You don’t think for a moment here that ned may not be thinking the same thing? All right, think for one minute. What if ned is right about leo? I mean, you’ve simply got to do what he suggests, and if he’s wrong, then he’s gonna back off. It doesn’t sound so threatening when you say it like that. You know, I’ve always looked at you as a very brave woman. Are you prepared to be wrong in this case? I would do anything for leo. There you have it. You can be the hero in your own story.

Oh, sonny! Hi! Oh, gosh. I heard what happened to you. Yeah. Oh, my gosh. I’m so happy to see you with my own eyes. I’m glad you’re home safe. Yeah, so am I. Ah. Um, so, uh, michael says that, uh, you have a daughter. Yeah. Bailey.

[ Laughs ] She’s perfect. I swear, every day, I feel like she’s changing and discovering something new. I feel like I can’t keep up. Yeah, that’s a great age. It’s a magical age. Yeah. My kids were great. And then they start talking, which is even better. Uh, but you don’t want them to be teenagers ’cause then they start talking back at you, right?

[ Laughs ] So, listen, uh, bring bailey by the house so I can meet her ins-instead of, you know, watching valentin lurking around. You got it.

[ Chuckles ] Now that I’m back to work, I’ve been going over the investigation into maxie’s baby’s kidnapping. You’ve done business with austin, right? Yeah. Did he ever say anything about the case? Well, he was particularly helpful when anna and i visited pautuck investigating the case. He seemed legitimately interested in finding louise. Okay, thanks. Um, if you can think of anything else, you know where to find me. You bet. Oh, and I-I wish you a speedy recovery. You know, brook lynn would never admit it, but I know she misses having you around the house. Right. I know you two are tight, and, uh, I would never ask you to betray her trust, but, um, is she okay? She seems a little frazzled.

[ Chuckles ] Uh, that’s a good word to use. She’s definitely stressed about something. Seeing linc, her old music producer, at the savoy last night certainly didn’t help. Is he still around? He’s awful. Is she okay? Yeah, I stepped in, kept him away from brook lynn. I guess she gave yuri the slip, huh? She tends to do that. There was one night when she got yuri to build bailey’s crib, despite the fact that there were plenty other staff that could have done that. There was the night she snuck out for a girls’ night. And of course she ended up giving birth to bailey in a hotel room. If yuri had been there, he could have made sure she got to the hospital and I could have been there for the birth of my daughter, but didn’t happen. Brook lynn made sure she was all alone. I’ll always be here for you. Oops. Gotta go. What? Steal your boyfriend? I don’t know why you think that, but, no, that’s not me. Spencer and I are friends, and that’s it. And if you have a problem with that, you can take it up with him. Okay, then. We’re good. And I feel really silly at how much I needed to hear you say that. But you understand where I’m coming from, right? No, I don’T. It’s just that certain…friendships can push the boundaries of what’s appropriate and what’s not. Spence talking to you about his inheritance and his dad — that’s just… way too intimate. Wait. Are you telling me not to be friends with spencer? I’m just gently suggesting that the next time spence tries to engage you in such an intimate conversation, you just remind him that certain topics are off limits for A…friend of the opposite sex. Well, esme, I think we’re just gonna have to agree to disagree, because if any friend comes to me asking for advice, I’m gonna help them, no questions about it, because that’s who i am. Curtis: Thank you for coming in, linc. I know you’re a busy man as well, so I’ll get right to the point. Now that I’ve launched the savoy, things are going well, I am focused on my next goal. I want to make this the number-one place in port charles for people to listen to live music. In order for me to do that, I’m gonna need help — help from someone like you and all your many contacts. Yeah, I’d be up for that. Okay. Well, before we enter a partnership, I need to know that I can trust you. So I’m giving you this opportunity right now to tell me anything I need to know about the people you do business with. Wait. If you don’t trust me, I can’t partner with you. Okay, you know what? You’re not going anywhere, linc… until you admit that you weren’t here by coincidence the other night, that someone sent you. Okay. You’re right. I owe someone a favor, that’s all. Who? Someone who wants to remain anonymous. Linc, I used to be a cop, after that a P.I. I could go through all the skeletons in your closet if I wanted to. I’ll take that as a yes.

You obviously know this man. Who is he? I can’t say. You said he’s not with the mob. So what is he? Because I’m gonna tell you something, linc. There’s no way I’m letting some jerk muscle his way in on my business. Look, I’m just the messenger. Look, linc, whoever he is, he’s been asking questions about me and my family all over town. Ned: There’s an exhibit tonight at the jerome gallery. It’s being underwritten by elq charities. If you can make it, you should come. Elq is making a matching donation to the local animal shelter. Because, trina, I want you to know I respect you being such a good friend to spence, and I really appreciate you listening to what I had to say. I hope you’ll think about it. So, I ran into gladys at the savoy the other night, and we sat at the bar and we chatted, and she seems like somebody who could use someone to talk to right now. Okay, take my advice. Steer clear of gladys. She does whatever it takes to get ahead. This is ironic coming from the woman who calls brook lynn quartermaine her bff.

[ Gasps ] Yeah, I don’t know what you see in her. I don’t question it. I just accept it. You can’t afford me the same courtesy? I’m in your corner, remember? Gladys is shady. Well, at least she’s up-front about it. What was that comment to sonny about? I swear I haven’t told anyone valentin isn’t bailey’s father. Keep it that way, or paulie’s gonna be pissed. Who’s paulie? Yuri, brook lynn is in danger from peter august. It is imperative that you watch her every move — everyone she sees, everywhere she goes. It’s the only way we’re gonna protect her. I’m counting on you, yuri. Remember, I need to know every last detail of her day. We were just discussing some deception business. You know, just because you’re a detective doesn’t mean you can just sneak up on people like that. How long were you standing there? I just got here. Why are you lying to me? I have no idea what you’re talking about. You’re lying about the night bailey was born. All right, who’s not in? You know, I think I better be going. I have something in my eye. Would you cash me in– come on, spence– cash me in, scooter! Take it easy. I hope his eye’s ok. Well, this game is over. I’m outta here. Yeah, me, too. You know, I haven’t seen much of my wife this week.

[ Chuckles ] Yeah, well, unfortunately, they may have nothing to do but drink. Our band from detroit, it just canceled. Downtown? You’re kidding! I wish. And every band within a 50 mile radius is booked. N’neka, I’m afraid there won’t be any live music at the savoy tonight. Sam! You’re back! How was your trip? Wait, what are you doing at G.H.? Oh, um, I’m here to pick up my mom. Isn’t your mom in…

[Quietly] Prison?

[ Chuckles ] No, she’s, um — she’s been released. Uh, novak is undergoing tests right now. Yeah, I don’t — I don’t have a description of the attackers yet. I’ll do that later. I gotta go to the pcpd. Okay. Yeah. Uh — oh. Whoa!

[ Laughs ] Well, long time no see. And at charlie’s, of all places. What’s wrong with charlie’s? Nothing. Great pizza and bar snacks. Well, shawn butler, um, it’s a long story, but I am persona non grata at the metro court and A…pariah in town, generally. It’s the price I have to pay for choosing to stay in port charles. “Charlie’s pub.” It looks like a nice place, but I already told you, I’m not hungry. So what are we doing here? You’re about to find out. Hey, joss! I packed all your stuff. Hey! Oh, my gosh, thank you. I’m sorry that I couldn’t do this myself. Uh, volleyball practice ran late, and I could not make it back to the dorm on time. No, I’m sorry the room’s so cluttered with my photo ark exhibit. I’ll clean up so you don’t have to clear out. No, it’s okay. Uh, you should have the place to yourself to focus. You don’t need me in the room distracting you. Also, I’m gonna be home late tonight, so don’t wait up for me. And plus, I mean, you know, it’s semester one in college with full-time volleyball, and on top of that, cameron doesn’t even live on campus, so opportunities have been scarce. It was never spontaneously the right moment. So we need to make the right moment happen. And that’s what we’re gonna do tonight. Perfect. Cameron: Hey, do you like the banner? Jake supervised it. All the way from washington, D.C.? Mm-hmm. Aiden: On the phone. Well, it was sweet of him to take time out of his trip to collaborate on the banner. You guys, I can’t remember the last time the house was this dressed up. It was for your wedding anniversary with franco. Right. Silly of me to have forgotten.

[ Doorbell rings ] I’ll get it. Uh, the bo ys and violet,they really wanted to throw you this party. Bad idea? No, no. No, not at all. I love that the kids wanted to do this for me. Yeah? And you know, they threw me a surprise party at work. Oh. It’s really nice to be celebrated. Though ironic because I kind of hate parties. Nikolas: What’s this about hating parties? I’m sorry you’re having a difficult time. Thank you. But it’s nothing I didn’t bring on myself. Yeah, which may be true but doesn’t make the day-to-day any easier. I sympathize. That’s right, you went… that’s right. How does it feel being back in port charles? Uh, my family’s great. You know, but it’s — it’s been tough trying to figure out my future. Mm, tell me about it. Yeah, it’s been a while, but… well, things are going well. Good. Do you have any advice you’d like to share with me? Advice? Huh. They don’t do that at, uh, spring ridge? Apparently, you haven’t heard. Heard what? You being the victim, I would have thought that the department of corrections might have notified you, but I’ve been pardoned. Wait, your mom was released? That’s incredible. You and your sisters must be thrilled. Yeah, it’s, um… been an eventful few weeks. Yeah, I got your text that you had to go out of the country. Where did you go? Crete. As in greece? Didn’t anna and valentin go there? Wait, why were you there? So downtown’s booking agent just called and says that he accidentally double-booked the band, so they’re in ann arbor, michigan, right now.

[ Scoffs ] Will you get your money back? I’ll get the deposit back, but I’m out the money for the advertising and the liquor, but more importantly, my customers are out of a great experience. Hmm. I just don’t want the savoy to look unreliable. Like sometimes you get a live band, sometimes you don’T. But more importantly, I don’t want it to look like we’re doing the old bait-and-switch, you know? Hmm. Pull people in promising live music that never materializes. Portia: Not to worry… the show will go on.

cam and I have been letting life dictate our relationship. And suddenly, I realized that we’re missing out on something really important, and we need to commit. And what’s with this “suddenly?” Well, I don’t mean “suddenly” suddenly. I-I just mean lately. And what happened lately that made you decide now was the time to commit to sleeping with cam?

[ Laughs ] Okay, what’s with the third degree? This is just the next step. Joss, you know I support you in whatever decision you make. And if you say you’re ready to have sex with cam, then you’re ready. But I wouldn’t be your best friend if I didn’t tell you this feels impulsive. It actually feels like a knee-jerk reaction to…something. I get the feeling that there’s more to your decision than what you’re saying. What is it you aren’t telling me? Well, shawn butler, uh… to tell you the truth, I lost the love, friendship, and trust of someone that I care about a lot, and I don’t see it coming back anytime soon. Well, never say never. But until then, I could always use a friend. Might want to give that a second thought. Because you’re connected to one of the people that I wronged. Sonny, what’s going on? You looking to recreate your experience at the tan-o? No, no, no. The tan-o is irreplaceable. I just feel like if you have a bar with a restaurant, with people who enjoy it and somebody who can manage it right, you can make money. And I — you know, I checked the numbers here at charlie’s, and it’s a good investment. So I want you to tell me — you think there’s potential? Sure. It’s got a terrific, welcoming atmosphere. [ Laughs ] Because you’re a miracle worker with a bar, and this is a bar without a miracle worker.

[ Chuckles ] I know exactly what you’re up to. When you told me that your band canceled and you were having a hard time finding a replacement, I realized that I could help you. What are you, the member of a professional rock band and you never told me about it? Ugh, I wish. But I do have a patient who plays bass in a band called punchdrunk. They’re actually very popular. And they’re not available. I already checked. They are taking a break from touring, but isaac agreed to do the gig at the savoy tonight as a favor to me. Because you saved his life.

[ Laughs ] The point is, now he’s gonna save yours. No, no, no, no, no, no, you did. Oh, my god. Baby, I cannot repay you. Oh, you’ll think of something. Oh, you better believe it.

Uh, I wanna talk to you, and I don’t think you’re gonna like it. What’d I do now? Well, I haven’t had an update on liesl, and britt went off the radar, and anna won’t return any of my phone calls. And — I’m sorry. What does that have to do with me? Well — well, I want you to get your girlfriend to update me. We were looking for peter, just like anna and valentin, and we didn’t want to say anything to you because we didn’t find him. Maxie: Yeah, I figured you didn’T. Otherwise, you would’ve told me. Yeah, um, I-I would have. I’m sorry. We tried. You keep saying “we.” Who went with you? Dante. The pcpd sent dante to greece? That seems a little out of their jurisdiction. Well, he didn’t come with me as a cop. He actually went with me as a friend. Really? Yeah. I had a hunch, and he wanted to help. Okay, well, I’m glad you had backup. I know how dangerous peter can be. Yeah. I don’t know what I would have done without him. Sam, are you and dante… more than just friends? Like, are you guys an item? Nikolas lobbied the governor for a pardon. I did not advocate for one. I actually thought that I should serve out my sentence and don’t really think that I had the right to be free. Well, when I testified at your hearing, the only thing I asked you to do is take responsibility for what you did. I know. I understand. I do. And I promised you that I would. So… do you think you did? You think you kept that promise?

Nd I aren’t together anymore, and even when we were, she never talked to me about wsb business. What about you, nikolas? Greece, that’s your stomping grounds. You must have people over there that could help me find liesl. I’d help if I could. Well, come on. What about all those resources you promised me? They didn’t pan out. I’m sorry. [ Brush crunching ]

[ Loud clattering ] What the hell? Happy birthday! Esme invited me and cam on a weekend getaway, and she assumed that we’d want separate bedrooms. You’re losing your virginity because of esme? No! No, of course not. This isn’t about me and esme. This is about me and cam. We’re in college. We’re adults. I guess. But doesn’t that mean you should be making your own choices? I thought I was? She said with a question mark. Oh, look, I despise esme. You know that. Which means I extra hate the fact that she was the one to point out that cam and i aren’t having sex. I mean, I wanted to slap her in the face when she said it. But I also realized that she makes a valid point. I mean, cam and i have waited too long already, and we should be together. Why does it sound like you’re checking something off a bucket list instead of making a physical and emotional commitment to cam? I did try to keep my promise to you, and to my daughters, and to myself, most of all, to be accountable for what I did. No excuses. Well, you didn’t try. You did. Yeah, you pled guilty, you accepted your sentence, you went to pentonville. Hell, you even helped out prisoners there, like shawn butler. Right. But I didn’t serve out my sentence. I was released. So what? That wasn’t you. Other people made those decisions. When are you gonna stop carrying around that burden of guilt on your back? I wouldn’t call dante and me an item, but yeah, we do care about each other. Like good friends or something more? Okay, we might have come to realize that we may have a future together. Oh, my god. Um, okay. I never would have predicted this. Then again, I never would have predicted that my fiancee was a monster and I’d be separated from my baby girl. Okay, that’s an interesting comparison. What? When you just lumped my seeing dante with two negatives. Are you trying to warn me off of seeing dante because he used to be married to one of your best friends? I’ve heard good things about this place. Are you the owner? I am — curtis ashford. Linc brown. Nice to meet you. I’m looking forward to the entertainment tonight. I’ve been following downtown for a while. Yeah, I’m sorry to disappoint you, mr. Brown, but downtown just canceled. Luckily, we were able to schedule an incredible replacement. [ Laughs ] You are pretty good at this nightclub thing. Clearly, following your instincts and making a career change works for you. Just a man who knows what he wants.

[ Cellphone rings ] Oh. Isaac? Isaac, hi. I’m actually at the savoy right now. Let me let you talk to the owner so you can discuss the details. The band’s not coming? Why not? What do you think I’m up to? Distracting me, offering me an opportunity to feel vital again. There hasn’t been a second in your life when you weren’t vital. Well, maybe I fooled you, but after lenny died, I’ve just felt so… disconnected. Even before the tan-o burned down. Well, you know what, that’s normal. I mean, everything that was familiar is now up in the air. I guess we’re both navigating new lives. Yeah, and my new life is my old life. And how are you handling the transition? Well, it’d be a lot easier if you said yes

[Laughing] To managing charlie’S. I mean — look, listen, I trust you. Tell you what. Yeah? I’ll go freshen up. Mm-hmm. And when I return, I’ll see if charlie’s bartender was as good as the tan-o’S. Alright. You — what is — 7 & 7? Hmm. You’re off to a good start.

[ Laughter ] Nina: I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love, love bubblegum ice cream, but I forgot to cancel the grocery delivery, so when I got back, I opened up the freezer, and there’s, like, 50 gallons…

[ Cheers and applause ] Happy birthday, mom. Aww, thanks, baby. Aiden made the cake himself. All: [ Gasp ] So mom, how old are you now, really? Hey, watch it! I can’t wait to taste this cake. It’s not as good as the one franco and I made last year. Hey, don’t sell yourself short. It looks amazing. Yeah, aiden, you made the cake. Your mother’s gonna love it. [ Laughter ] It is so good to see you, my brother. It’s good to see you. You know, I’ve been meaning to get in touch with you, but, you know — ’cause I heard you got out. No, no, look. I’m pretty sure you’ve had a lot to deal with since you’ve been back. Uh, I owe you. Alright. Carly said that she offered for you to come back to the business. You didn’t want to do that. So what do you think? Are you gonna take the job? Are you gonna take his offer? ‘Cause I personally would be more than thrilled if you stayed in port charles. Phyllis, you just make everything better with your sheer faith and tenacity. And how about you? How is your faith these days? It’s a bit shaky. Wait a minute.

[ Stammers ] I’m just trying to say that life can be unexpected and hard, and it’s nice to have someone to be there for you during the rough patches. I would never begrudge you of that someone. Thank you. Wait a minute. What? Is dante the guy that you told me kissed you a while back? You know what? I have to go. I’ve gotta find my mom. Some place you gotta be? Elizabeth: I’m having such a good time with everyone. Do you think it’s okay if we take a rain check on our plans to go to the club tonight? Hey, what’s going on, kid? Same. So, one band cancels is bad luck. But a second band? That feels like something more. According to isaac, some of the other band members read some unsavory things online about the savoy attracting mob violence. Damn it, is this about that joey novak and carly corinthos thing? Because I handled that. I know. I know that. And so do your regulars.

[ Sighs ] Now I understand why downtown suddenly had a scheduling conflict. This is exactly why I didn’t accept protection from jason morgan. I didn’t want my club to be — to be associated with any kind of mob connections. How am I supposed to book any legitimate acts now? Mr. Ashford, excuse me. I don’t mean to overhear your conversation, but it sounded like there’s no live music tonight? I’m afraid not. Second act cancelled, too. Hmm. Well, where you see loss, I see opportunity. Do you believe in accidents, mr. Ashford? Because I sure don’T.

Hey. Hi. You sure you won’t change your mind about the savoy? I know you were interested in hearing the band that curtis booked. You know what? You’re right. It’s my birthday. There’s a great band playing. I’m gonna rally. Yeah? Yeah. Good for you.

[ Laughs ] Okay. Hey. Hey. So how can two cancelations turn into an opportunity? I happen to be traveling with a performer who has a gig in buffalo, and tonight is his night off. And you represent him? I’m his producer, but he loves jamming between gigs. It keeps him sharp. Lets him have a little fun without a set list. Sounds good. But what makes you think your artist would be interested in performing here? Well, he was already coming to hear downtown. It won’t take much to entice him to perform, especially in a venue of this caliber. There’s no time to draw up a contract. Whatever you had planned to pay downtown will work for my guy. Uh, mr. Brown — linc. As much as I appreciate your generous offer, I’m just not sure your artist would be a right fit for my clientele. Well, check his website. Decide for yourself. I’ll confirm with him, but I’m sure that this partnership will benefit us all. Incredible. Aren’t they? Ned quartermaine had the same reaction. Did ava tell you about the photo ark exhibition I’m putting together? I mean, not only did she tell me, she can’t stop bragging about how you came up with the idea, you made the connection, you got ned to underwrite the exhibit. Ava is very proud of you. Ava is a great boss and mentor. She’s so generous with the people she cares about. Yeah, you and my wife are a lot alike in that way. I mean, you care about your friends and ava. You even supported my son.

[ Laughs ] I’m not sure spencer would agree. I gave him an earful earlier at the gallery. Hmm. Do you know where my son is right now? I wanted to talk to him. I haven’t seen him since he left the gallery. Huh. I’m surprised he didn’t pick up a shift here tonight. Since spencer renounced his name and his inheritance, I thought he’d work every second to earn money. Did you convince my son that he didn’t need the family fortune? I kind of told him he needed to be his own man and not a money-grubbing little phony. Good for you. I mean, especially since my son listened to you. Maybe you’re the only person who can get through spencer. You’re facing some daunting challenges, nina, but if you keep one foot in front of the other, then one day, you’ll be able to look around and see how far you’ve come. What about you? Will you take the same steps… hm. …And accept sonny’s job offer? I wanna know that answer myself. The answer is… yes.

[ Laughter ] Thank you, sonny. I’ll be honored to manage your bar. A-and that’s even before the 7 & 7. So when do you want to start? As soon as I head somewhere quiet to share the news with lenny. Ahh. It’s good to see you both. Offering phyllis a job — brilliant. It’s much better than gifting her charlie’S. Yeah, you were right earlier when you said that, you know, she wouldn’t accept a — a gift of that magnitude. Yeah. She’ll just dip her toe into the water, see how it works out. Maybe this will all be permanent. She’ll stay in port charles. You know, you… care about the people that you love just as much as mike did.

Even if he hasn’t always been a good friend to you. I’m afraid my son may have learned his bad habits from me. Spencer learned his bad habits from spencer. I wish that were true. But in the past, I’ve made the mistake of not treating my friends and family well. But at least he has you in his life.  Well, it looks like a good crowd. Yeah, this night is turning out better than I hoped. Show hasn’t even started yet. And I can’t thank you enough for the save. Have you seen what’s going on outside? There’s a line around the block. You have a hit on your hands. You really went all out for my birthday. Well, you deserve it. You deserve this and — and much more. Well, that’s very appreciated. It’s nice being an adult and actually being out of the house for once, isn’t it?

[ Laughs ] And now josslyn and cameron can study for their midterms and have the place to themselves. Okay. We have regular salt, sea salt, himalayan salt, and kosher salt. I am very well prepared. Trina, I already told you that I have plans with cam tonight. Yeah, um, I-I haven’t changed my mind. And I — I know that you packed me some makeup uh, in my bag somewhere, but I — I can’t find that lip gloss that I like. Here, let me look for it. Yeah, I think I found it. If liesl comes back and she finds that her daughter is missing, fireworks. Britt’s a grown woman, right? So I’m gonna guess that obrecht respects her daughter’s choices.

You find out that phyllis is putting down roots in port charles, and now you’re gonna do everything you can to keep your distance from her. Sonny, you’re the one — that’s what I’m saying. [ Monitor beeping ] So, gladys is running around town with brook lynn’s corporate credit card and spending it in decidedly un-corporate ways. She treated me to drinks, plural, at the savoy. She must like you. And then she let slip that she thinks that brook lynn is pulling a scam on you.

I thought your mom would be home from the savoy a lot later than this. Well, it seems like she will be. Someone’s just using the driveway to turn around. Oh. [ Sighs ] You okay? You seem a little off. Too many pretzels, I guess. Joss, we — we didn’t have any pretzels. We don’t have to do this. No, I’m good. You sure? Yeah. Yeah, it’ll pass. Besides, don’t you want to? Linc brown, the band’s producer. Chase had him arrested a while back, and ned quartermaine ran him out of town. Why? Some– something he had against brook lynn quartermaine. You know, I’m beginning to think that his appearance here wasn’t a coincidence. So you think he deliberately came here to help you out when your original band canceled? I’m thinking someone put him up to it. What do you want? What do I want? For the information on brook lynn and gladys, you must want something. No, no, no, no, we’re good on that. I mean, I can kind of tell from the way we’re talking that brook lynn may soon find herself in the hottest corner of hell. That’s enough for you, is it? Yeah, brook lynn’s misery would be my joy. [ Laughs ] Hello, gladys. Oh, you remembered. Yeah. I’m flattered, because I certainly did not forget you. Uh, what’s with the plant? Thank you. Yeah, it’s my way of saying thank you for lifting my spirits when that awful joey novak tried to threaten me and carly at the savoy.

[ Sighs ] Joey has none of the charms of his uncle vincent. I heard they beat the louse up. How’s he doing? Not that I care. He’ll live. Too bad. If you ask me, he deserved it. Well, okay. Remind me never to cross you.

Ms. Wustepping up, I-I would’ve come home to a grieving family. No wife, no best friend. So to say our family owes mrs. Wu is an understatement. Yeah, no, I agree. Yeah, but you said that your conversation with her was not about business, that it was personal. Yeah, she wants, um, some consideration for someone in her family. Who? Uh, a nephew she’s close with. Yeah? Is he someone we know? I’m sorry to say, but her nephew is brad cooper. I know a little something about baby whales. Your mom and i moved around a lot, and we lived in a lot of different communities, and once we lived by the ocean, and that’s where I learned that baby whales, even when they learn how to swim and manage on their own, they stay with their mommies. Yeah. Yeah, they swim together. And then the baby swims in the mommy’s wake to make it easier and faster. Of course, people are not the same as whales. Whales have been found to have very high intelligence, a lot like human beings. Mom, is there something going on? Um…yeah. Um, an inmate got pardoned today at spring ridge. She’s so intelligent, but she’s an overthinker and she worries a lot, and, uh, I don’t know, she and I just have been having regular talks lately. And you’re going to miss your talks with her. That sounds so incredibly selfish. How can I be anything but happy for someone getting out of prison?

Obviously, whoever has louise is giving her formula. She might not even be interested in breast milk when she gets back. Still, it’s — it’s a really generous donation. You’re courageous and selfless. If you knew me better, you’d know I’d do anything to stay connected with my baby. I think we should fix that. I’d like to get to know you better. How is brad related to ms. Wu? He’s her brother’s son. He was given up for adoption. Ohh. And brad is coming up for parole. What, does ms. Wu think that you can use your influence to get him out? I told ms. Wu that I wouldn’t do anything to help him get parole because it would hurt you and wiley. Yeah, thank you. But we still owe mrs. Wu. Even though I told her that I wouldn’t do anything to help brad get paroled, I wouldn’t fight against it if he did get paroled. Dad, I respect your position. I do. But as a victim, I-I’m gonna be notified when — when brad’s hearing is set, and I plan on speaking against his release. I made it clear to ms. Wu that you had every right to speak, but you’re not gonna pull any strings or use your influence behind the scenes to block his parole. Dad, it’s my influence. And why shouldn’t I use it?

[ Sighs ] Why shouldn’t I use it to keep the man who stole the first year of my son’s life behind bars? I don’t have to be glued to michael’s side 24 hours a day. I like that he’s close to his parents. Maybe that’s something that, uh, we could shoot for in the future. I certainly don’t want us to be strangers. That’s not exactly a ringing endorsement, but I’ll take it. And I hope to get to know you better, too, wiley, because we already have baby whales in common. And, oh, I think I have something for you in my purse. Let’s see. Oh, here, wiley. It’s candy. I’m not supposed to take candy from strangers. Maybe it’s better if we just keep a respectful distance. This isn’t about brad. This is about his aunt. Her warning saved your mom and jason. Yeah. Yeah, I know. And, dad — dad, I will honor — I’ll honor your — your agreement with ms. Wu. I w-won’t pull any strings behind the scenes to deny brad parole. Okay. There’s another thing you have to consider. I-I assured ms. Wu that, uh, if he got out of prison and didn’t go near my family, that there wouldn’t be retribution or an eye for an eye. Carly: Okay. If you already made this promise to ms. Wu, why are we even having this conversation? Because I told her that I — that I spoke for the entire family. I j– I just need to know if we’re in agreement, if we’re all in agre– are we in agreement? Michael! Are we in agreement? Dad, I can’t just answer as your son. I have to answer as wiley’s father. Look, when I found out that — that nina was lying, that she knew that you were alive the entire time, I didn’t hesitate to have her arrested. It had a collateral benefit of keeping her away from wiley. So why should I look at brad any different? I agree with michael on this — I do. Nina hurt our entire family. Shouldn’t the same standard apply to brad? I’m not saying to forget what brad did! She promised me that he wouldn’t go near our family. And — and I have to trust that he’s gonna respect her and — and answer to her. I respect that you gave her your word, and I will honor your agreement with ms. Wu. But I’m telling you this — I-if — if brad does get paroled and he comes within a city block of my son, he’ll have to answer to me and I promise you both, it will not be pretty.

[ Sighs ] Ye s, you don’t take candyfrom strangers. That is a very important lesson, and I am so glad that your mommy and daddy taught you that, but even more so, that you are smart enough to listen. Sweetheart… that is the rule your daddy and I taught you. But this lady, um… this lady isn’t a stranger. You just don’t know her yet. Oh. This is harmony. And she’s my mommy. Yeah. Congratulations, peter. You’ve become the man our father never thought you could be. You’re just as powerful as he was. Because I finally stopped running from his legacy and embraced it. And now it’s your turn. Face it, britt. You and I… can never be like everyone else. You have to take what we want. Jason: You hear anything? Nothing. No, they’re gone, and they got no reason to check on us because they know we’re not going anywhere. How’s your arm?

Do you have to rub my nose in it? You know, you got me thinking, maybe I’m letting you off too easy. Excuse me. Maybe i should call my uncle sonny. [ Chuckles ] My mother was on her best behavior. What happened with your parents? Um…we’ll, uh — we’ll talk about it later. Suffice to say, wiley’s gonna need us now more than ever. It’s been a while since I’ve seen that side of michael. I’m proud of him.

[ Sighs ] Michael’s not like me. You know, he doesn’t lash out wildly and end up hurting himself. He finds an opponent’s weakness, and he exploits it. He found a way to go after nina for what she actually did, and I’m sure he’ll do the same to brad, if brad tries anything. I’d just be a lot happier if he’d just focus his energy on making his family happy. Well, obviously, michael feels it’s important to protect his family. Protecting the family is my job.

[ Voice breaking ] When you were gone… when we thought you were dead… …it changed everything. Everyone. And you coming back has brought on even more change. You know that saying — once the genie is out of the bottle, it’s really hard to put it back in. You’re not just talking about michael now, are you? Everything’s finally falling into place for me. Soon, I’ll have maxie back, and we’ll find louise together.

[ Sighs ] You have to be realistic, peter. There’s no way in hell you can get maxie here to cassadine island. Have you already forgotten the demonstration I just showed you? You know, maxie thinks she knows what she wants, but I have other ways of bringing about her happy ending, britt.

[ Scoffs ] Remember that.

[ Sighs ] Tarot cards? I saw the first one. It was a — it was a tower. Peter showed it to you and said, “you’re active.” T-that’s the same phrase helena used. And then he had one of the guards give you a knife and ordered you to put it to my throat.

[ Sighs ] I’m sorry, man. Why? I looked you in the eye. Y-you weren’t there. Peter puts you under, and — and you’re gone. No free will. Exactly. I can’t — I can’t stop myself, which is why you have to stop me. I-it’s not gonna come to that. But if it does… I’d rather die at your hands than have to carry out another one of his orders. Are we clear? Yes. So, you’ll do it? I will, but I’m not gonna have to. How can you be so sure of that? Because britt saw the second card — the one that brings you out. And we both heard the code phrase. What is it? “Stand down.” It’s that simple? It’s that simple. So we got him. Peter august is going down.
