THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[ Grunting, breathing rapidly ]

[ Groans ] Felty… I heard a lot about you. It’s all been A… a big misunderstanding. Oh, we are

way beyond that. You’ve been exploiting sasha gilmore, a grieving mother, pushing drugs on her. She asked for them!

[ Groans ]

[ Coughs ] I didn’t want to do that. Listen to me. I don’t want you to talk. I just want you to listen. You offend me… and people who offend me, they tend to disappear. You understand? Good evening, darling. If memory serves, you like roses. Oh, yes. Thank you. I also like champagne. Good. Then I’m two for two. Please, sit. Thanks. To you — the most beautiful sight I have ever seen. I can’t do this. I’m sorry. I can’t — um… I don’t want to put up with this anymore. Put up with what? The dishonesty. Ava: I’m gonna need your help. Anything. First martini. Yes? Yes. Okay. I have every intention of ordering a second, but under no circumstances should I be ordering a third. So don’t let me, okay? No matter how much I insist I need it. Why would you need a third martini?

[ Sighs ] To numb the pain of how badly trina’s trial went today. Oh, no. What happened? Uh, father, ava? Hey, spencer. Would you mind if I join you? It’s important. Aah! Gee, you, uh… really don’t look well.

[ Breathing heavily ] What did you do to me?

[ Pounding on door ] Hey, oz, open up. Oz? Hi, you. Hey, baby. What’s this? It is a smoothie… mm-hmm? …Loaded with greens and antioxidants for immune support. Mmm! Thank you. Yes, of course. You’re welcome. But… I meant “what’s this?” As in, what are you doing here? I thought you’d be tied up at the da’s office until way late. Yeah, well… I needed a mental health break. It was that bad? Trina’s trial has just become a glaring example of how broken our legal system is. Thanks for coming. Well, you said you had major announcements, so I wasn’t gonna miss that. Tell me that you’ve got a plan to get your half of the hotel back. Oh, it’s way more important than the metro court. Whoa. I guess it is pretty major, huh? Well… hey, guys! You, uh, here for the big announcement, too? Uh, actually, we…

are the announcement.

[ Carly chuckles ]

[ Chuckles ] I’m pregnant. Get out of here! It’s a true story.

[ Laughs ] Well, it’s about damn time this family had some good news. Oh, congratulations! Oh, no! I-I’ll do anything! No, you’ve already done too much, felty. Come on, dex.

[ Thudding ]

[ Groaning ]

We’re going to bury your body so deep… no one’s ever going to be able to find you, felty.

[ Breathing rapidly ] Please…

[ Thudding ]

[ Groaning ]

[ Groaning stops ] You bastard. A bullet would be letting you off too easy. Josslyn: You are so busted. I just recorded the whole thing, and you’re going down. Oz, I need you to wake up. I have a few questions to ask you about a phone you sold a young lady. Someone’s future depends on it. Oz? Oz? Shoot, man. You’re not hammered.

[ Gasps ] Oz, what did you take? Hey. There you are. What are you on, man? Look, oz, I’m just here to help you. What’d you take? Uh, don’t know. She gave me something. She? Who? What’s her name?

[ Groans ] Oz? Come on. Stay with me. Oh… damn.

[ Exhales sharply ] Yeah. I’m going to need an ambulance here right away. Will esme be joining us as well? Esme doesn’t even know that I’m here. Well, in that case, have a seat. Although, be warned, it’s been a very long and very terrible day. So if a sparring match is what you’re after… it’s not. What about you? Are you okay that I’m here? Of course. What’s going on? I was actually looking for ava. What happened at trina’s trial? Please sit down. What is the point? Please don’t end this evening before it’s had a chance to start. Please. Thank you. I haven’t lied to you. No, no, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Omission?

[ Scoffs ] Okay. Okay. Sure. I’ve held things back — things that I wish I could tell you, but I just can’T. Things like where you were when you were supposed to be at the clinic. “Supposed to be”? I contacted them, which I can do, and I know that you left the clinic weeks before you came back here. Where were you? When I was first assigned trina’s case, I was conflicted. Yeah, I remember. Could I do my job without being biased, or should I recuse myself? And you went with option one. Yeah, well, I made a choice to trust in the system. The way the system is supposed to work, the prosecutor makes the strongest case they can based on the evidence, and the defense makes the strongest case they can for innocence or extenuating circumstances, and the jury, with proper instructions from the judge, makes the call. Clearly, you put a lot of thought into this. Yeah, well, joke’s on me, because it turns out that my role as prosecutor was never up to me. What do you mean? Ada arden pulled some strings, and now I’m loaded down with all of these other assignments. She’s effectively moved me off the case. So instead of asking you to recuse herself, she just… did it for you?

[ Sighs ] God, I just loathe all of these behind-the-scenes politics. Like, that’s why I busted my butt for a law degree? No! I did it to pursue justice. That must be insanely frustrating, and I’m so sorry, baby. Thank you. But can I say something selfish? Sure. I’m glad you are not the one arguing to put trina away. Yeah. You and I had many conversations, sometimes arguments, when I joined the da’s office. I remember those, too. About whether it was really possible to change the system from the inside. I’m starting to think you were right. I’m fighting a losing battle. What are you doing here, jocelyn? Well, I had a very hellacious day in court today, so I decided to go for a run to let off some steam. And then I saw you get out of your car, and I thought that, a, it was weird that you were alone and, b, you were going down some sketchy alleyway. So I decided to follow you. And as a precaution, I pulled out my phone, and good thing, because I saw you and mr. No-neck over here beating the pulp out of some guy and threatening to kill him and — and — and gonna bury him where nobody will ever find him, sonny. And I’m pretty sure that’s assault and premeditation, which will send you to prison for the rest of your life. So…my hellacious day just got a whole lot better. Congratulations, you guys! I’m so, so happy for you both. Thanks, drew. Sparkling cider for you. Oh, thank you. Telling you, that’s one lucky kid in there. You just can’t be born into a family more loving than this one. Well, if you’re referring to michael, willow and wiley, then absolutely. But some of the other distant relations can be a bit prickly. And if you’re referring to the quartermaines, I think “prickly” is a little too kind. I’d go with backstabbing, blackmailing, and a whole lot worse than that. Okay. Ned and tracy, maybe, but that doesn’t apply to you guys. And we’ve already established that you followed lila’s tradition. You guys are the good q’S. Even though my mistake cost you? Stop. Uh, it’s our — our mistake, actually. Which — which wasn’t merging the companies, by the way, or attempting to merge the companies. No, that was a sound business strategy. Our mistake was… trusting ned. Amen. Setbacks aren’t final. Amen again. I mean it, mom. We will not stop until we’ve reclaimed what you’ve lost.

You checked up on me? I’m not proud of it, but…

[ Sighs ] I kind of really wrestled with how to proceed. And then in the end, I decided to trust but…verify. That’s how you know I lied about my time at the clinic? You don’t know the whole story. Okay. Everything I did, I did for charlotte. What does she have to do with you leaving the clinic early? I, uh, I left the clinic for the same reason that we put charlotte in boarding school. I developed a severe staph infection that spread to my spine. And as you can imagine, it’s particularly sensitive after all the corrective surgery that I’ve had. The first clinic wasn’t equipped to handle such a severe infection… so I was moved to a second clinic where I underwent 30 days of intravenous antibiotics… and then extensive physical therapy. It was a long and winding road, but… I made it. Things went very badly for trina in court today. You might be happy to know that. Why would that make me happy? Oh, because you’re seemingly loyal to esme, and esme framed trina. Come on, ava. I think it’s clear by now that spencer doesn’t wish trina ill. Exactly the opposite. At the same time, he can’t simply write off esme. My son is…caught in a difficult situation. Where are you taking him? Uh, to general hospital. Alright. I’ll meet you there. Okay. We’ll take it from here, sir. Curtis: I, uh, just wanted to check out the apartment. That’s our job. This is now officially a crime scene.

[ Police radio chatter ]

[ Sighs ] Okay. Enough shoptalk, you guys. We’re here to celebrate our growing family. Yes! Ooh! There you go. Thank you, thank you. Okay, so I just want to say that when nelle told us she was pregnant, it was difficult to find the joy. But she gave us wiley, so we will forever be thankful. Yes. But I want you to know… you are kind, loving, and generous… and I’m so grateful that you and michael found each other. And I’m so excited for the family that you’re creating and — okay, it’s enough. It’s enough. I don’t wanna cry. I just want to say cheers. Cheers. Cheers. Cheers. To family! To family! Let me get in there! Come on, now.

[ Laughter ] Cheers, guys. Josslyn, I don’t think you understand what you walked in on.

[ Scoffs ] That’s fair. I’ll leave it up to the cops for interpretation. You don’t want to do that, joss. No, I can’t wait. Okay, I know you’re angry, and — and I don’t like how it ended with your mom. I regret that.

[ Scoffs ]

Now you regret it? I don’t — the pain that the family’s going through — no, no, sonny. The pain that you put us through. Yeah, but if you have me arrested, it’s not gonna just hurt me. It’s going to hurt everybody else, especially donna and avery. Those little girls need their father. Donna and avery needed their father for all of those months that you were gone. But you didn’t remember them or you — you couldn’t care to. Josslyn, I didn’t know who I was. You know that’s not — michael told me that when you were on the stand at nina’s ridiculous visitation hearing, that you stopped asking where you came from. Right. Because you… you didn’t want to know? You were having too much fun with nina to care about those little girls. They got by without you fine then, and they will get by without you now.

repeat in 2 minutes if his o2 sat is not above 90%. Got it. Let’s also get an I.V. Bolus, a toxicology panel, cmp, cbc, blood gases. Yes. Dr. Ashford. Curtis. Hey. Hey, molly. Is everything okay? Well, I’m checking on a guy the paramedics brought in — oz haggerty. Oh, god. Is he a friend? No, but he could be a pivotal witness to prove that trina was framed. Whatever else you may think of me, I really do care what happens to trina. Can you please just fill me in on the trial? Ava: Maybe talking about it will help. For starters, scott baldwin had some kind of family emergency, so trina is now being represented by diane miller. That almost sounds like good news, though, right? Diane’s badass.

[ Cellphone chimes ] Yes, she definitely can be. But unfortunately, the ada went on the offensive by calling both josslyn and cameron as witnesses for the prosecution. But joss and cam have been saying trina is innocent from the start. I was in no condition to parent charlotte, and so, reluctantly, I trusted victor to take her to boarding school. Why didn’t you ask laura or nina? They have a good relationship, don’t they? At the time, nina was preoccupied with the sonny corinthos situation, and laura had extensive mayoral and personal responsibilities. Okay. I mean, they sound like valid reasons if we were talking about anyone other than your daughter. I know that you would do anything for her. I would. And too many people know that, and that makes her a target. And so as much as I despise victor — and I do — I felt that he was the best equipped to protect her. From who? Enemies from my past on both sides of the law, which there are many. I was flat on my back in a hospital bed, and I was fearing for my daughter’s safety. Why didn’t you tell me what was going on?

[ Laughs ] I love you, mom. I love you, too. And you take care of that bundle of joy. I will. Okay. Alright. Text me when you get home. See you, guys! Bye! Aah!

[ Laughs ]

[ Both sigh ] So… so… I, uh… I guess I should get going, too. If you have to. I don’t have to do anything. You can say what you want. You can, you know, think what you want. But if you send me to prison… you think kristina’s gonna thank you? Dante? Donna? Avery? I notice that you left michael off that list. And what about when those little girls are old enough to — to understand what happened? They’re gonna — they’re gonna see their father in prison, and you did that? I love how you’re making this my fault. Like I forced you to beat up some guy in an alleyway. That was all you, just like sleeping with nina and trashing our family was all you. Okay. You know what? I’m not gonna — I’m not gonna sit here and try to tell you there’s always two sides to every story. Punishing me and punishing your siblings are two different things. And I think you can tell the difference. Dex: Wait. None of this was my idea. I had no choice. Explain, then. But keep your distance. And just so you know, I have pepper spray.

I understand what it’s like to be scared for your child’s safety, to know that at any point they could be made to pay the price for stupid decisions that you’ve made in the past. I went through that with robin, and I could have helped you if you’d told me what was going on. I know. I know that. Why didn’t you? Because I was helpless. I was flat on my back in a hospital bed, and then I was hobbling around on a walker. And I just don’t like it when you see me like that, because it… it takes me back to when we first met… and all you felt for me was pity. There’s a situation at cassadine industries. I need to make a call. I’ll be right back. I don’t get what could have gone wrong at the trial. Josslyn would never say anything against trina. Well, she didn’t need to. It’s just the more joss tried to defend trina, the more damage she did. What’s this about? I was hoping that you would be able to restore my internship at spring ridge, but while I was waiting for you, I… what? I realized how much this secret we’re keeping is weighing on me, and I just… I can’t keep going like this. I want to come clean. You don’t mean that. I do. I’m sick of the cover ups, the lies of omission. I want to tell ava and spence that we slept together. The paramedic said a bystander found the patient and called 911. That was you? Wasn’t exactly a bystander. I went looking for the guy. Oz haggerty is a bartender at the highsider,

and he also sells black market phones like the one that was planted in trina’s bag. Trina has maintained from day one that the incriminating phone was planted, and josslyn has been just as adamant that spencer’s girlfriend, esme prince, is responsible for the revenge porn and is framing trina. Could this oz id esme as having bought the phone? That’s the hope. But when I found him, he was too out of it to answer questions.

[ Alarms beeping ] Doctor, he’s coding. If you turn that footage over to the cops, it won’t just be sonny who gets arrested. I will be, too. Well, maybe you should have thought about that before going to work for a gangster. Everything okay? Sure thing, boss. Sonny slapped my hand. I promised to be good from now on. Right. Look, you coming to the quartermaine estate was out of line. My family is off limits. I’ve heard that one before. Do I look like I’m joking? No. It’s just ironic, considering you hired me to take down your father. Look, my work situation is… complicated. You helped attack a man, and you clubbed him unconscious and planned to kill him. You deserve what you get. No, we weren’t gonna kill him. At least, I didn’t think we were. As far as I knew, we were just supposed to scare him. So… would you like more champagne? Who am I to say no to that? Nice. Thank you. You’re welcome. To the new baby. Wow. Can you believe it? Yeah, I can. Yeah, I guess I can do.

[ Laughs ] Mmm. So… how are you doing? I’m great. I mean it. How are you doing? Really?

[ Sighs ] Okay, well… I bounce from fury to frustration all day long. Oh, that sounds fun. Doesn’t it? It sounds lots of fun.

[ Laughs ] Fury and frustration over nina? Yeah. And the fact that she now owns my hotel. Half your hotel. But you know what? I’m so grateful for everything that I still have. I am. So it sounds like you’re kind of all over the place, huh? Yes. I am all over the place. But michael’s right. It’s just a setback. And as someone who’s been down this road, I would know. Wow. And why aren’t you throwing me out the window right now? What? I’ve had some bad things happen to me in my life, but nothing compared to you. Oh, my god. You’re right. That was outrageously insensitive of you. Come on. What are you doing? I’m getting ready to throw you out the window.

[ Laughing ] Oh, come on! What are you talking about? Look. Look at me. No comparisons. Okay? My past is behind me. And, yeah, sometimes I let myself think about it, but only to realize just how good I have it now. I agree. Of course, um… …you know, things could always get a little better. Yeah? Any idea how? One or two.

[ Door opens ] Sonny: Carly! What the hell? You got to get your daughter under control.

Esme, you need to think about this. I have. It’s all I can think about. Telling ava and spencer about our…encounter, it’s only going to cause unnecessary pain. Okay. It’s not like we have any feelings for each other. It was a one-time moment of vulnerability. It is better by far to put this behind us. I just thought I knew where my life was going, you know? Internship at spring ridge, studying psych at pcu. And now it’s all up in the air, and I feel like the only way I can get a fresh start is if I get the truth out. Okay, I get that. You do? Yeah. If the internship at spring ridge makes you feel grounded, then I’ll get you reinstated. I mean, what if it’s already too late? I — I might have missed my window to use it to get into the psych program. Give me until tomorrow. I promise you will get everything you wanted. I knew you’d come through. Josslyn said in her testimony that trina would never buy black-market phone. And then the ada called officer cabrera to the stand, who said that trina tried to do just that. He said that about trina. Why? Because apparently, joss and trina, they went to find the man who they believe sold esme the phone, and they tried to buy one themselves in the process.

[ Sighs ] So it’s ironic, though, isn’t it? That trina, she tried to prove her innocence and ended up making herself look more guilty. We’re not the same people that we were when we met all those years ago. I’m not — I’m not an angry young woman anymore, and you’re not… a scarred hunchback? Oh, don’t do that. That’s just… well… that’s part of your transformation. You know, I don’t have any illusions about you, valentin. I know that you’ve done regrettable things. So have I. But I have seen you work to be better, to grow, to be more honest, to try to make amends. Do you know how bad I wish I could make amends?

[ Sighs ] God, this is just… it’s always just going to be like this. We’re never going to walk a straight line, are we? This whole process, it’s just gonna be a series of stops and starts. And it feels like two steps forward, two steps back sometimes. Are we ever going to learn to trust each other? Did I just break that trust by checking up on you? Why’d you do it? Honestly? Because ever since you’ve come back, you’ve been different, and I wanted to figure out why. I hope you’re okay with my mom’s little announcement get-together thing. What? Did you think I wouldn’t be? I don’t know. She just kinda threw it on us. No, I loved it. Yeah? Could drew’s reaction have been any sweeter?

[ Chuckles ] Yeah. That was — that was great. I’m so happy you two are working together. Yeah. Well, it’s nice having someone in the trenches that I trust. And we’ll, uh, we’ll get aurora back in the black. I know you will. And your mom seems good. She’s moving on from the divorce… even from the loss of the hotel. Yeah, she seems freer. I mean, this is the strongest we’ve seen her in a long time. Does that change anything for you? What do you mean? Well, seeing your mom happy and moving forward, does that maybe leave some room for a little grace where sonny is concerned? Do you know brando corbin? Of course I do. He’s extended family. So this guy you think is so innocent, he’s been pushing drugs on brando’s wife. Okay, sonny was pissed and just wanted to make sure we scared him bad enough that he would leave sasha alone. Well, even if you’re telling the truth… I am. …There’s a chance that sonny wasn’t telling you the truth. I mean, he could have killed this man if I hadn’t shown up. And then what would you have done? Would you have stopped him? I don’t know. But I’m glad I wasn’t faced with that choice. This guy was pushing drugs on sasha, so I put the fear of god into this lowlife. And there’s — there’s josslyn. She’s filming the whole thing, and she’s gonna threaten to take the footage to the cops. Okay. What do you want me to do about it?

T.J.: I want him admitted to the icu. He’ll need to be monitored closely. Yes, doctor. Molly: Well? How’s he doing? I had to put him into a medically induced coma. His brain is swollen and it needs a chance to heal. When do you think he’ll wake up? I’ve requested a neuro consult, so once he’s been evaluated, we’ll know more. I also ordered a blood panel so we can see which drugs are in our system. You know, before he passed out, oz told me that a woman gave him something. Yeah. My guess is he was drugged on purpose to shut him up by none other than esme prince. Have you ever seen the two of them together? No, but I recently followed oz to spoon island. What the hell would oz be doing at spoon island if he weren’t meeting up with esme? It all fits. Yeah, well, there’s no way to prove it until oz regains consciousness. And trina is almost out of time.

[ Ringing ] General hospital? Yes. I, um, was notified that my father, oz haggerty, was brought into the er. Is he gonna be alright? Let me take down your information and I’ll have the attending call you. Please. I-I’m all the way in oregon. I can’t be there for hours. Can I just talk to him? I’m sorry. Your father’s been unconscious since he arrived. He is stable, though, and is being admitted to the icu. When will he wake up? You really need to speak to the neurologist. Neurologist? Is my father in a coma? I’ll take down that information whenever you’re ready. Sorry about that.

[ Sighs ] I hope your emergency wasn’t too dire. It’s a problem that requires immediate action, but it’s solvable. I really hope it goes better for trina tomorrow. Me too. But unless some miraculous witness drops from the sky to exonerate her, trina may very well lose everything. There’s a darkness in you… in your eyes. Ever since you came back, I don’t know. It’s like something is really bothering you. You hide it well… but it’s there. I love that you can read me like this. What’s going on? You’re right. There is something troubling me. But it’s no big mystery, and I don’t think it’s a thread that you and i should be pulling. Okay. I like you. And the closer we get… the more I know it’s gonna hurt when I lose you. Why are you going to lose me? A thousand reasons. But when you look at me like you are right now… …I don’t want to think about them. Let’s not think about… anything. Hey, I’m not advocating for you to reconcile with sonny, but maybe just… drop this vendetta against him. All this anger and hate, it’s not good for you, michael, and it could lead you to do something that you’ll regret. Oh, you want me to let it go? For your own sake, especially since it’s clear now that carly’s doing fine. Yeah, this isn’t about revenge. Isn’t it? Look, it’s about doing what’s right. And what’s right is for me and my — my family to just not have sonny in my life anymore. That will really make you happy? You know what? Look, you make me happy. Thinking about our future makes me happy. Us and wiley and the baby, you know that makes four? Maybe someday, I don’t know, five, six… oh, okay. Okay, slow down. The point is, is we got a lifetime of love ahead of us. You have an elevated white blood cell count. That’s it?

[ Exhales sharply ] I know from nurses training that it’s normal to have an elevated white blood cell count during pregnancy. And that’s true. Willow, from what I see, I don’T… I don’t think this is related to your pregnancy. I mean, how could you think of anything else? I can’T. If you turn that video over to the cops, sonny’s lawyer can maybe get him out of it, but not me. I will 100% be convicted. And not for nothing, but… it doesn’t feel like you took that video to uphold the law or prevent a crime. Feels like you did it to get back at your stepfather. And maybe sonny deserves it, but I don’t even know you. I’ve certainly never done anything to you. This could ruin my whole life. Please. Sonny’s ruined enough lives already. I don’t see a point in adding your name to the list. It’s gone. Thank you. I still think you’re an idiot to work for him. Noted. Guess we both got lucky tonight. Just call josslyn and have her delete the footage. She’s an adult. If josslyn witnesses a crime in progress and she chooses to report it, that’s her business. So if I get arrested, convicted and sent to prison, you think joss is going to feel good about that? You got to — you got to stop her now, carly. Isn’t it perfect how it works out what’s good for josslyn also allows you to get off scot free? Well, this is on you. You know that. How is this on me? Well, because you keep egging her on about me, and now she’s out of control. Oh, my god. Sonny, sonny, you should leave before this deteriorates any further. Are you telling me to leave out of my own house? It’s not your house anymore. Last time I checked, it’s not your house either. Unless you guys are moving in together. Enough. Enough. You don’t get to barge in my house and start barking orders. I will consider the situation and I will guide josslyn to do what’s best for her. And if it lands your ass in pentonville, then so be it. You don’t have to worry. They allow conjugal visits. You and nina should be just fine. I would pull back if I were you, because you already lost your hotel. There’s a lot more to lose.

[ Door slams ]

[ Sighs ] You okay? Yeah. I’m fantastic. I’ve got sonny right where I want him.

Kayla: [Scoffs] Was yesterday get out of jail free day?

[Scoffs] Have you seen this? Have you seen what our r neearn’s’sone? Did you see who he pardoned?

Steve: What, you don’t think sociopathic murderers deserve a second chance?

Kayla: Kristen dimera and orpheus have already had 327 chances.

Steve: [Sighs] Well, I really don’t think we should be joking about this, baby. Because you can bet the one thing kristen and orpheus share is an overwhelming thirst for revenge.

Nicole: [Inhales deeply] Good morning. I’m back. Where’s brady? Ugh. [Sputters] Okay, you know what? If I can haul my butt out of bed this morning and catch the first flight out of new york, uh, you’d think he could get here before 10:00.

Chloe: Nicole–

Nicole: ‘Cause it’s not like I don’t have good news or anything. Not only did I change schneider’s mind about pulling his business, I got him to double his order next quarter. We had a three-hour dinner at the soho house last night. It was great. You haven’t heard a word I said, have you?

Chloe: And obviously you haven’t heard the news.

Nicole: Well, I just told you. I’ve been on a plane since dawn, so what news?

Brady: Kristen called.

Chloe: What? What did she want? I’m sorry.

Brady: Same thing she always wants. She wants to see rachel.

Chloe: Mm. Well, I think we should make this a kristen-free evening. What do you say?

Brady: That’s a good idea.

Chloe: What do you want to watch?

Brady: Let’s just–

Chloe: Baseball or a movie?

Brady: I don’t care.

Chloe: Governor’s emergency press conference? Wonder what’s going on.

Mitchell: In addition, I am also issuing a full pardon to kristen dimera.

[Dramatic music]

Brady: Look. I want you to double the security at the inn, at my parents’ house, and the office. Then hire more guards, damn it. Just a–

Eric: Hey. Hey, whoa! Brady, it’s just me.

Brady: Sorry. Listen, just call me when everything’s in place, okay? All right. Sorry.

Eric: Yeah. You don’t really think kristen’s gonna come at you like that, do you?

Brady: Eric, I don’t know what she’s going to do, but I know that I’m not gonna get a hell of a lot of warning.

Jake: [Groaning and wincing]

Ava: Oh, oh. Oh, ooh, ooh.

Jake: Ugh, damn it. Oh!

Ava: Jake, another spasm? Hey, hey, hey–

Jake: [Groans] This happens every time I sleep on this air mattress. Every damn time.

Kristen: Oh, get over your tired self. Try sleeping on a cot in statesville.

Ava: She’s up.

Kristen: [Yawning] Oh, my god. [Inhales deeply] You woke me up in the middle of such a lovely dream.

[Sighs] And thanks to the enlightened governor, I’m gonna make those dreams come true.

[Sighing contentedly]

Jake: [Groaning sigh]

Kristen: Mmm.

Shin: Okay. You know I love you too.

[Soft tense music]

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Gabi: I hope you didn’t end that call on my account.

Shin: Oh, I’m sorry. Did I wake you? Some coffee?

Gabi: Sure. And then you can tell me who you were exchanging I love yous with.

Nicole: Pardoned? From the governor?

Chloe: That’s right.

Nicole: How the hell did she pull that off?

Chloe: [Sighs] I have no idea. Maybe she put on her governor mask and decided to hold a press conference.

Nicole: Oh, brady. Have you talked to him? Is he all right?

Brady: Look, I don’t– I don’t want to overreact.

Eric: I’m not sure it’s possible to overreact when it comes to kristen.

Brady: [Chuckles dryly]

Eric: Hey, what about rachel?

Brady: [Sighs]

Brady: Rachel. That’s what worries me the most.

Chloe: A couple of hours before we found out about the pardon, kristen had called brady from statesville asking if he would bring rachel there to visit her, and he said “no.” And then–

Nicole: Oh. And then?

Chloe: Well, she just kept pushing him, and so he just finally told her that rachel’s still in california with theresa and tate.

Nicole: Oh. So now kristen knows where rachel is.

Brady: So I talked to theresa. And she’s going to talk to shane about security just in case kristen plans on going down there, but that might not be the first thing on her agenda.

Eric: Do you think you know what that might be?

Brady: [Sighs] Eric, the only thing that I am sure about is that I never know what the hell kristen’s thinking.

Nicole: So is brady beefing up security?

Chloe: Yeah, that’s what he’s doing right now. But, you know, we could have all the security in the world.

Nicole: And it’s kristen. Mm-hmm. And after everything she’s done, I mean, if she could still get a full pardon, who knows what else she could get away with?

Brady: [Groans and yawns] Excuse me. Yeah, I didn’t get much sleep last night.

Eric: I can imagine.

Brady: I was up all night just waiting for kristen to walk through that door. Course, that’s not her style though. She would love the idea of me just waiting up, knowing she’s loose, and not knowing where she is. It’s a very special kind of hell.

Kristen: Mmm! My god, ava. This coffee is absolutely out of this world. Mmm! Really, I might never leave. And ava, sweetheart, thank you. Thank you for the loaner. It’s milano, right? Ooh, incomparabile. [Laughs] You don’t know how it feels compared to the prison-issue polyester blend. Jake, fratello, a splash more cream, per piacere.

[Kristen laughs] This is such an indulgence! Oh!

Jake: [Groans] Damn it.

Kristen: Oh, you know what? I’m sorry about your back. You know, you don’t have to get the cream. Ava can get it for me.

Jake: You’re such a peach.

Kristen: Hmm. I’ve had many people tell me that. And although I feel very bad about commandeering your bed, on the other hand–

Jake: On the other hand–

[Groans] Gabi and i both owe you for your vote the last dimera board meeting.

Kristen: Oh, gee. I’d forgotten all about that.

Jake: Yeah?

Kristen: [Laughs] As if.

Jake: Oh, so what? We’re even now?

Kristen: [Laughing] God. No, jake. Not even close. Uh-uh. Ava, sweetheart, you know what? You didn’t have to sleep on the floor. No, I mean, you were right next to me when I drifted off last night.

Ava: Yeah. Well, don’t take this the wrong way, but you’re the biggest cover hog that I’ve ever slept with.

Kristen: Oh. Well, that’s funny. No one else I have been in bed with has ever complained about that. Or anything else for that matter.

Jake: Or maybe they were scared. Kidding.

Kristen: [Soft, fake chuckle] You know what? As fabulous as this bed and the coffee and the company is, lounging around is not part of the agenda. Mm! I am going to stir up the pot around here and there and everywhere.

[Smooches]

Jake: Wow.

Kayla: You know, if orpheus on the loose, maybe we shouldn’t even be out in public.

Steve: No worries, sweetness. I’ve got my ear to the ground. I’m not about to be surprised.

Jada: Steve?

Steve: Jada? Hey, look at you. Oh! Why didn’t you tell me you were coming so soon?

Jada: It all happened so fast.

Steve: Kayla, this is jada hunter, marcus’ little girl all grown up.

Kayla: I really loved your dad, and he was a great doctor too.

Steve: A great man. My friend since the orphanage days. I still miss him.

Kayla: I was really sad to hear that he had passed away.

Jada: Thank you.

Steve: So when’s the interview?

Jada: Yesterday. I got the job.

Kayla: Oh!

Steve: That’s great. You know, I told you I recommended jada to rafe.

Kayla: That’s great.

Steve: When do you start?

Jada: Uh, yesterday. I hit the ground running. I didn’t even have time to call and thank you.

Steve: Rafe’s got you working already?

Jada: Yeah. He actually assigned me to your niece’s case.

Kayla: Oh.

Jada: As a matter of fact, you were my next call. Moderate to severe eczema still disrupts my skin.

Kayla: You were coming to see me? Why?

Jada: Sarah horton was brought in yesterday to answer some questions.

Kayla: Sarah? Why?

Jada: I can’t go into too much detail. I had questioned her about where she was the night of abigail dimera’s murder.

Steve: What reason would you have to question sarah?

Jada: I really can’t get into it. But I’m more concerned about her medical condition, her hallucinations.

Kayla: You don’t think that sarah–

Jada: I don’t “think” anything. I’m just trying to understand the situation, and in order to do that, I’m going to need to access dr. Horton’s medical records.

Kayla: I can’t just hand them over. I mean, there is such a thing as medical privacy.

Jada: And exceptions for law enforcement is also a thing.

Steve: I have an idea. Why don’t we talk this out at the pub over breakfast? My treat.

Eric: Listen, I get that you’re upset and how worried you are, but kristen is rachel’s mom, so maybe all she wants is contact.

Brady: [Scoffing] Yeah. That’s what kristen said on the phone yesterday.

Eric: Wait, wait, wait. You–you spoke to her?

Brady: Before I knew about the pardon. She wanted me to bring rachel to statesville to come visit her. Thank god that rachel’s in california. Gave me the perfect excuse not to do it. I don’t want rachel to have to go through a prison visit.

Eric: Yeah, but then–

Brady: Well, now that kristen’s out, I can’t stop her from going to california. Hell, I can’t even tell my daughter that she can’t see her mom.

Eric: Right.

Brady: I just–I need to find a way to control how and when she sees her.

Eric: Well, I’d get justin started on that as soon as possible.

Brady: Yeah, yeah. Well, it really bu–it really bugs me the way this whole thing started though.

Eric: Whoa, whoa, whoa, wait. Started?

Brady: When she got caught, I thought it was just because she got careless, because she was so desperate to see rachel. But eric, she got caught almost as soon as she got into town. Which makes me think, “did she plan that?” Right? And then, right–and now I sound paranoid, right?

Eric: Again, you are talking about kristen.

Brady: I just have a very, very bad feeling about all this.

[Soft dramatic music]

Kristen: Oh! Whoo! Well. [Laughs] That night on the air mattress really took it out of you.

Jake: What was your first clue?

Kristen: Uh, you know what? I’m gonna make it up to you. You’re gonna stay home, you’re gonna rest up in your little hovel, and i will make your excuses to gabi when I see her in the office.

Jake: Ah, you’re gonna go collect on that favor, huh?

Kristen: Yeah. I’m a quid pro quo kinda gal.

Jake: Okay. Just a heads up, gabi and shin aren’t gonna be as willing to give up their bed as we were.

Kristen: Mm. Well, I’m aiming a bit higher than a sleepover.

Jake: What’s that mean?

Kristen: Oh, my god. Think about it, jake.

[Chuckles] You know what? You’re my brother. You’re family. Gabi, blessedly, she means nothing to me. That makes my vote for her a sizable favor, and I think a sizable thank-you is in order.

Jake: So what exactly do you want from her, huh? Huh?

Kristen: Mm! Grr. [Laughs] Calm down, hmm? Don’t go all caveman about your little girlfriend.

Ava: Ex-girlfriend.

Kristen: Of course. Whatever you say.

Ava: I say “ex-girlfriend.”

Kristen: Fine, whatever. Anyway, I’m sure gabi is gonna be thrilled to see me and be ready to do whatever it takes to get me back on my feet. And I’m sure she remembers all the support that she got when she was released from prison. Mmm. Mm-mm-mm. Hmm? Oh! I’m just giving her the chance to pay it forward. Ciao!

[Door slams]

Jake: Well, that was fun.

Ava: Yeah, no. No, that was not fun.

Jake: [Groans] Ooh, hmm. Well, I’ll go take a shower. Long, long hot shower. See if I can unknot this thing, huh?

Ava: Mm.

Jake: Hey, ava? You think I should call gabi, warn her?

Ava: Jake, if she reads the paper, she already knows that kristen’s coming.

Jake: Yeah. You’re right.

[Sighs] My god. What a morning.

Shin: Is that a hint of jealousy I hear in your voice? Maybe I should be flattered. But don’t worry. I was just talking to my mother.

Gabi: Your mother?

Shin: [Laughs] You sound surprised. I do have one, you know.

Gabi: Well, we’ve been dating for over a month now and this is the first time I hear of her.

Shin: Hmm. Well, that might be because my father has such a huge presence. He tends to dominate any conversation has to do with my parents. Should I call her back? Would that convince you?

Gabi: [Scoffs] Great. Then you’ll resent me for not trusting you. If you’re genuine, that is.

Shin: Sounds like a standoff.

Gabi: No, no. I was just–well, I realize that a month in, I might not know you as well as I thought.

Shin: Hmm. A little mystery is a good thing. Keeps it interesting.

Gabi: So you whispering sweet nothing into another woman’s ear while I sleep is interesting? Hmm. Meanwhile, I’m an open book.

Shin: Says the woman who has an unusually close working relationship with her most recent ex.

Gabi: Jake? Oh, please.

[Scoffs]

Shin: In the beginning, he was put off that we were together, but no longer. Maybe he knows something that I don’T.

Gabi: He doesn’t care. He’s with ava now.

Shin: Does that bother you?

Gabi: [Chuckles and sighs] Let me show you how little that bothers me.

[Light music]

My moderate to severe plaque psoriasis…

Nicole: Just remember, whatever kristen tries to pull, brady loves you. He knows what that lunatic is all about.

Chloe: Yeah, I know, I know. You’re right. I do trust brady. It’s just that the two of them have this weird bond.

Nicole: Tell me about it. Ugh.

Chloe: It’s like she still has this hold over him, even when he knew that she was bad for him. I think that maybe, like, she’s still kind of under his skin.

[Sighs] But I guess you know what I’m talking about, right? Sometimes when you’ve both moved on, but you still have this pull to another person.

Nicole: Yeah, quite a pull. And it worked out great for us.

Chloe: Oh, you’re talking about rafe.

Nicole: Of course I’m talking about rafe. Who else would I be talking– oh, come on. Not you too.

[Sighs]

Eric: Been working really hard for those tips. It’s not really fair to just take it away like that, is it?

Greg: How do you know I wasn’t leaving a tip?

Eric: Because you were taking money out of it and not putting money in. Listen, we know what’s going on here, and it doesn’t have to be this bad.

Greg: Calling the cops?

Eric: Whoa, whoa. Hey, hey. Just hear me out. If you’re in a situation, if you need money, there’s people out there who can help. I can help. Let me just give you my card.

Greg: Shove your help, man!

Eric: Hey.

Steve: Whoa! Whoa, whoa, whoa. Dude! What did we miss?

Ava: Don’t be an idiot. Do not be an idiot.

Jake: What’d I miss? Why are you suddenly an idiot?

Ava: That was a private conversation.

Jake: All right. Well, what is it you don’t want me to know?

Ava: That I– that–okay, I’m trying really, really hard not to be the same jealous idiot that I was that screwed up my last relationships.

Jake: Huh. You’re jealous?

Ava: I’m trying not to be.

Jake: Okay, I’ll bite. You’re jealous of who? Come on, not gabi.

Ava: Okay, listen. I know I sound crazy, but when kristen called her your girlfriend, you did not contradict her.

Jake: You beat me to it.

Ava: Yeah, I know, I know. But then you wanted to call her and warn her that kristen was coming. I’m sorry, but that got under my skin.

[Chuckles] And the irony of all of this is the reason I went after you in the first place was to get under her skin. And now I think I’m falling for you, jake. Look, I didn’t plan it… but there it is. I just don’t want to set myself up for disappointment if you’re still in love with gabi.

Gabi: I think I made us a little late this morning, but it’s definitely worth it.

Shin: Gabi, there’s something you should know.

Gabi: What?

Kristen: Morning, sleepyheads. Your mission: Stand up to moderate

Jada: Who was that guy? Everything okay here?

Eric: Yeah, yeah. Everything is fine. Just a misunderstanding.

Jada: Have you got cctvs? I can track him down.

Eric: Um–

Brady: You could? I’m sorry. Who are you?

Jada: I–

Steve: This is jada hunter. Her dad was one of my oldest friends. She’s the newest member of the salem pd. Jada, this is brady black and eric brady.

Jada: So the brady pub is your place?

Eric: Ah, it’s my dad’S. Yeah.

Brady: It’s nice to meet you. Look, I gotta go. I got to make sure chloe’s okay.

Eric: Yeah, yeah.

Brady: Heard about the pardons? What the hell was he thinking?

Jada: Mm-hm.

Steve: I don’t know.

Kayla: Gabi heard about the pardons. Kristen and orpheus and the homicidal son.

Steve: It’s like the governor released a plague of locusts on us.

Gabi: What the hell?

Shin: As I was saying–

Gabi: Did you break out of statesville?

Kristen: No.

Gabi: Oh, you’re going right back. How stupid are you? You should hightail it to the border when you had the chance.

Shin: Gabi, wait.

Kristen: He’s trying to stop you from going off half-cocked and making a fool of yourself.

Shin: She was pardoned.

Gabi: What? Pardoned? They have enough on you to throw away the key.

Shin: The governor pardoned her yesterday.

Kristen: Ah. Kinda gives you faith in the political system, doesn’t it?

Gabi: Why would he do that? What did you–[Gasps] Did you– did you put one of his family members in your dungeon?

Kristen: Shh! Shh.

[Exhales deeply] We’re not going to talk about me, we are going to talk about business and how I can help you clean up the mess that you made of it.

Gabi: [Sighs]

Jake: You think I’m still in love with gabi?

Ava: I don’t know. But I do know that I have been second choice a couple of times, and I do not want to go down that road again. You know, with steve, it was always kayla hovering around, even when she wasn’t there. Rafe and nicole was the same thing. Deep down, I always knew. Ava vitali, also-ran. Consolation prize.

Jake: And you think that’s what you are to me?

Ava: I’m asking you if I am.

Jake: [Sighs] All right. When you said before that you got into this whole thing with me because you wanted to stick it to gabi, right? And if I’m being honest, it was the same for me. Probably not the best way to start a relationship, but… but I’m not steve. I’m not rafe. And you want to know the truth about me and gabi? I was an also-ran too.

Nicole: [Scoffs] Yet here I am, trying to tell you how happy rafe and I are, and you go there.

Chloe: I didn’t say that you don’t love rafe, but come on. You and eric?

Nicole: Okay, okay.

Chloe: All along, the both of you–

Nicole: You know what? I’ve already heard this from allie. What is it that I have to do, huh? Take out a billboard so everyone gets the message? Eric being here is irrelevant, collar or no collar. I am a happily married woman.

Brady: Chloe, you okay?

Chloe: Hey, yeah.

Brady: You’re okay. Okay.

Chloe: Oh, any news?

Brady: No. All is quiet on the western front so far.

Nicole: Hmm. Look how that turned out.

Brady: [Sighs] You’re back.

Nicole: Yes, and given what’s going on, maybe I should’ve stayed in new york.

Brady: [Sighs] Pool floaties are like whooping cough.

Kayla: So bo and roman are both my brothers.

Jada: Your father?

Kayla: Yeah, and they’re both cops. And shawn is bo’s son, and he’s a cop too. And this place has always been known as where the cops hang out as long as anybody can remember, right?

Eric: Yeah. You’ll feel pretty much at home.

Jada: You know, I’ve been here once before. I had a run-in with your dad’s short-order cook.

Eric: Clyde.

Steve: Oh, yeah. He’s a real charmer, isn’t he?

[All chuckle] Right at home in the hospitality industry.

Eric: My father believes in second chances.

Kayla: So how many miles did you run today?

Eric: None. I was on my way and I bumped into brady.

Jada: You’re a runner? Me too.

Eric: Really?

Jada: Mm-hmm.

Eric: Well, yeah. There’s some great trails that wind through the park and, well, if you ever have any time, let me know. I’ll show you.

Jada: Thanks. I will.

Eric: Yeah.

Jada: So what do you do? Sorry, I didn’t mean to pry.

Eric: No, no. You’re not prying. It’s just that, um–

Kayla: Um, he’s sort of between things.

Jada: Hmm.

Eric: That’s the brady irish american way of saying I used to be a priest. Now, I’m just trying to figure out what to do next.

Jada: Oh.

[Chuckles softly]

Nicole: I’m just kidding about the whole new york thing. Brady, you know that I have your back.

Brady: I know you have my back. I’m just worried about rachel. I mean, I was talking to eric this morning and–

Nicole: Oh, you saw eric?

Brady: Yeah, he was tearing out of the pub and headed for his morning run, and I was just–I was so on edge, I– I mean, I almost tackled him.

Nicole: Yeah, okay. Well, I’m sure you want to check in with theresa, and I’ll give you some privacy. I have an errand to run.

Brady: Hey, if you hear anything–

Nicole: Yeah?

Brady: About kristen–

Nicole: I’ll let you know. Bye.

Brady: Bye.

Chloe: Bye.

Brady: [Snaps fingers]

Chloe: [Sighs]

Brady: Are you okay?

Chloe: Well, now that you’re here, I am.

Kristen: Hmm.

[Sighs] You need to redo these projections.

Gabi: Why?

Kristen: Because they don’t account for inflation, and because… I told you to. I’d like you to remember why your name is on that door.

Gabi: I will never forget that it was you that made it happen, and I’m very, very grateful for that.

Kristen: Oh, as you should be, because if it wasn’t for me, you’d be out on the streets. You are intimately familiar with the bylaws, aren’t you? Now, correct me if I’m wrong. It’d be fairly easy to push gabi out, wouldn’t it? And all it would take would be another vote, one with slightly different results.

Jake: Look. Gabi had already found the one before I came into the picture. My twin brother stefan, okay? And the truth is, they’d still be together if he wasn’t dead. But that doesn’t mean that she didn’t love me and vice versa. But in the end, it was amazing how quickly, what we had, how it fell apart. Because we were all passion, all heat, nothing underneath. No foundation. So yeah, bottom line, we didn’t trust each other. And it hurt at the time, badly, but I realized that I wasn’t the love of her life, and she wasn’t mine. So if you’re asking if I’m still pining over gabi, I’m not. I’m over her. I have moderate to severe plaque psoriasis.

Ava: So you’re over gabi?

Jake: [Sighs] Yeah. Even her pawing all over shin doesn’t bother me that much. I got something better to think about. Wait a minute. Did you say you’re falling for me?

Ava: No, I–

Jake: Did I–

Ava: I-I-I think I said, “I think.”

Jake: Oh, you “think”?

Ava: Think I’m falling for you.

Jake: Okay. Well, I think that I’m falling for you. Scratch that. I know I am.

Ava: Yeah?

Jake: Yeah.

Ava: How?

Jake: [Scoffs] You want me to count the ways?

Ava: Mm-hmm.

Jake: All right, all right. I sit there at work and I stare at the clock counting down the time till I get to see you again. You know I got a speeding ticket the other day? Wasn’t paying attention. I just kept driving faster and faster the closer I got to home, to you.

Ava: Mm. I stare at the clock too, like a stupid little teenage girl just waiting for the phone to ring.

Jake: Hmm. Well… most people… they can’t see past that tough exterior you put up.

[Chuckles] But I? I see right through it. I see the woman who says what she means, means what she says. I’ve seen the real you. A woman who looks at you in a way like you’re looking at me right now. It makes you feel like you’ve won the damn lottery.

[Soft dramatic music]

Gabi: She can do that? She can force another round of votes?

[Chuckles] All right. Well, you want my job? Okay. Since you’re asking li about the bylaws, why don’t you also ask him what your chances are of getting voted to take my place? Because the odds are zero! Ej will never go for it and neither will chad.

Kristen: You’re right. They’d rather torch the place than hand it over to me, but that doesn’t mean I can’t throw all things dimera into utter chaos.

Gabi: [Scoffs]

Kristen: Gabi, sweetheart, we got off to a tense start, hmm? I am happy to have you in charge. I come in peace only to cash in on a favor.

Gabi: So you don’t want my job? But you do want something, something that’s in my power to grant you.

Kristen: You are so perceptive.

Gabi: All right. I have two questions for you. What exactly is it that you want, and am I going to end up in prison for giving it to you?

Eric: It was nice meeting you, ms. Jada.

Jada: Have a good run.

Eric: I will. I’m sure you two are going to be showing her around town?

Steve: Well, we offered, but she’s too busy with work.

Jada: Yeah, which hasn’t made it easy to find a place. I mean, the salem inn is nice, but it’s not sustainable on a cop’s salary.

Eric: What? My dad, he rents rooms upstairs that are pretty reasonable, I mean, if you can get past your issues with the cook.

Jada: Oh, thanks. I’ll keep that in mind. And maybe I’ll see you on a run.

Eric: [Chuckles] Sounds good.

Greg: Your purse, lady! Now! My a1c stayed here,

Ava: I don’t know why we’re here. I mean, kristen finally left. We have the place to ourselves.

Jake: Yes, but this is where the jewelry store is.

Ava: What do you want with the jewelry store?

Jake: They sell rings there, don’t they?

Ava: Rings?

Jake: [Sighs] Ava… I don’t like that you feel that I’m not serious about this relationship, and I really don’t want you feeling like an also-ran, because you’re not. I already told you gabi… is not the love of my life, and gwen certainly wasn’t either, but… maybe you could be. Maybe you are.

Ava: You’re saying you want to marry me?

Gabi: [Sighs] Well, that was something.

Shin: It could’ve been a lot worse.

Gabi: I had to give in what she wanted, but at least she’s someone else’s headache now.

Brady: So there’s no sign of her out there, right? Okay, good. Listen, theresa, please don’t say anything to rachel until I know exactly what kristen is planning.

Kristen: Well, that won’t be a long wait. So…who’s gonna get their new boss some coffee?

Jada: I should get going. About earlier, I know you’re loyal to your patient– your friend, and I’m not trying to make things tense. I just really want to see justice done for your niece.

Kayla: Right.

Steve: Good luck today.

Jada: You think I’m gonna need it?

Steve: A salem cop needs luck every day of the year.

Nicole: You stay back. I have mace.

Greg: If you did, you would’ve hauled it out by now. I’m not telling you twice. Your purse.

Nicole: Eric!

Eric: Hey, let’s all take a breath.

Greg: You just back off!

Eric: Hey, hey. Nobody wants– nobody wants any trouble. This doesn’t have to end badly.

Nicole: [Yelps]

Eric: Whoa, whoa.

Nicole: Oh, oh!

Greg: I said back off, and I meant it.

Finn: My mother is dead because of you!

Sheila: Need to calm down. No, you’ve, you’ve got to stay there.

Finn: No! What I have to do is what somebody should’ve done to you a long time ago.

Sheila: You need to get back in bed because you are not strong enou–

Finn: –Shut up! I’m leaving! I’m going back to my wife and son but not before I make you pay for what you have done to us, to my mother, the woman that you killed!

Bill: Here’s some more water. You’ve gotta be hungry. Is that why you were in the alley behind the restaurant? Were– were you looking for food? Look, I– I know that I’m a– I’m a total stranger but I– I’m really just trying to help you. You’re obviously traumatized. A little bit beat up. I– I wish you would let me take you to a hospital. Oh. Okay. Okay. Okay, okay. No. No hospital. Will ya– will you please just drink some more water? I… don’t want you to get dehydrated. Please. That’s it. That’S… there you go. There you go. Good. You think you’re ready to tell me your name? Do you remember my name? I’m bill. I told ya I have three sons? Two of ’em are grown and, one is off at boarding school. His– his name is, is will. I like to think that he’s a chip off the old block. He’s– he’s actually a lot smarter than I am. I think someday he’ll take over for me, you know, be a– be a titan of business. Or who knows? Maybe a world renowned doctor or something.

[Li gasps]

Bill: What? What? What? What? What– what is it? Tell me. Tell me. You can talk to me.

[Phone chimes]

Liam: Thank you so much. And that is hope letting me know beth and douglas are down for the count. Actually, I think she beat my best time. Look at that.

Wyatt: I don’t know how you guys do it, man. Work, parenthood, all the other things you guys got going on. It’s exhausting.

Liam: Yeah, well, yeah, it’s just teamwork. You know, it’s teamwork based on love and, and respect. I’m sorry, but weren’t– weren’t you and dad, like, just here?

Wyatt: Yeah. No, I’m– I’m not eating. Uh, but I really wanted you to see this place because even you would think their fish tacos are out of this world.

Liam: Wow. Really?

Wyatt: Yeah. Um, so uh, how you holding up?

Liam: Holding up?

Wyatt: Steffy and finn. Everything that happened with them. Um, I– I know you worry about her.

Liam: Yeah, I do. Um, especially now, given what I just learned.

Bill: What is it? You– you’re trying to tell me something? Well, whatever it is, if you do have a son, do you want me to contact him? Does he know what happened to you?

[Wyatt clears throat]

Wyatt: A depression rehab center?

Liam: Yeah. In monaco. I mean… ridge said that they brought the nanny but I’m still, I’m still concerned.

Wyatt: I thought steffy was doing okay.

Liam: Yeah, well, we all did, ’cause that’s steffy. You know, she wants everyone to think everything is just fine. She doesn’t want anybody to worry. But, um, you know, at some point, she must have realized it was– it was getting to be too much for her and she needed help.

Wyatt: I guess we all know who to blame for this.

Sheila: I told you, li’s death was an accident.

Finn: Oh, just like shooting me was an accident.

Sheila: Yes.

Liam: Nah, you wanted to kill steffy, the mother of my son, the love of my life. You know, it’s you who should be dead, not my real mother. Someone should’ve put a bullet in your head that night. But since they didn’t it’s up to me to take matters into my own hands to make sure justice is served, sheila! Oh!

Sheila: It’s okay. It’s okay.

[Thud]

[Grunting] Age-related macular degeneration may lead to severe vision loss.

Wyatt: Thanks.

Liam: Thank you.

Wyatt: So you think the cops are any closer to catching sheila or no?

[Liam sighs]

Liam: I don’t know– oh, actually, uh, there is one interesting development.

Wyatt: What? They have a credit card charge or did they spot her?

Liam: Oh, no– well, no, nothing cool like that. But there– but there is uh, some new information about the guy who helped sheila escape. Apparently, it– it wasn’t just some random guard. This guy was, like, sheila’s accomplice back in the day.

Wyatt: Really?

Liam: Yeah. Guy’s name is uh, mike guthrie. And, and ridge and brooke knew who he was. They remembered his connection to sheila, like, years ago. And, in fact, they went with baker to question the guy. And then he, you know, denied everything.

Wyatt: Oh, of course. Of course he did. Sure.

Liam: Yeah. I mean, and unfortunately, baker says that, that I guess all– all the evidence is circumstantial so he can’t do anything unless there’s some kind of, like, cctv footage or, or a witness. So there, like, he can’t– there has to be hard evidence. So until then–

Wyatt: He just gets off scot-free.

Liam: Uh, apparently, for now.

Wyatt: And sheila is just still out there, as dangerous as ever?

Liam: If not more.

[Beeping]

Sheila: Why can’t you just let me love you? Take care of you. Why do you have to lash out the way that you– you do. I’m your mother. I just want to love you.

[Banging]

Mike: It’s me! Open up.

Mike: Sheila!

Sheila: I’ve been trying to reach you and you haven’t been answering your cell phone.

Mike: I was questioned by the cops. Ridge and brooke were there, too.

Sheila: What?

Mike: They’re on to me, sheila. I am right in their cross hairs.

Sheila: And you decided to just come straight here? What were you thinking?

Bill: A little something here for you to eat. Okay. Ah, that’s good. Great.

[Knocking] Uh, it– it’s okay. It’s– it’s a doctor friend of mine. You didn’t want to go to the hospital. But you do need some medical attention. It’s okay.

Dr. Armstrong: Hello, bill.

Bill: Hey jordan. Thanks for coming by. Uh, hope I didn’t take you away from anything too important.

Dr. Armstrong: Nah. Just another fundraiser. Did me a favor.

Bill: Well, now you’re doin’ me a favor. This uh, this is the woman I talked to you about.

Dr. Armstrong: Hi. I’m dr. Jordan armstrong. Bill and I go way back. May I? Bill is really concerned about you. Can you tell me what happened? Well, I do see some cuts, abrasions. Did you injure yourself in some kind of an accident?

[Li grunting]

Li: Back off you crazy bitch!

Oh!

– Bedtime!! – Bedtime.

Sheila: How dare you come back here? Do you know the jeopardy that you have put me in?

Mike: No one followed me. I made sure.

Sheila: Right. You’re sure.

Mike: Don’t take that tone with me. I am doing you a favor alerting you to what’s goin’ on here.

Sheila: Do you realize the risk that you’ve just put me in?

Mike: Okay, fine. It was a risk. That doesn’t change the fact that the walls are closing in on both of us. We have gotta act quick if we’re gonna save ourselves.

Liam: You’re not wrong, this place has a good vibe.

Wyatt: Ah! See? I told you.

[Liam laughs]

Liam: Did dad agree? How was dinner with the old man, by the way? Did he spring for the check or did he make you pay? I feel like he made you pay.

Wyatt: He paid, he paid.

Liam: Okay.

Wyatt: Uh, actually, between you and me, I’m a little concerned about him. Well, he was gettin’ all… philosophical and compassionate and– that! I know! That’s not dad, right?

Liam: No.

Wyatt: I just, I don’t know. I– I’m worried about him living up in that big house all by himself.

Dr. Armstrong: I know we keep asking you this. But can you tell us how this happened? Okay. You rest. I’m going to talk with bill for a moment.

Bill: What do you think?

Jordan: She’s definitely been traumatized.

Bill: Well. I figured that out for myself, jordan. What– what I’m asking is, do you think she’s gonna be all right?

Dr. Armstrong: Physically? Yes. She doesn’t appear to have any broken bones or internal injuries. Although I’d rather get her to the hospital, run some tests and be certain.

Bill: It’s not gonna happen. She– she won’t go. That’s why I asked you to come here. What else?

Dr. Armstrong: Well, I did find some tiny shards of glass in her hair.

Bill: Really?

Dr. Armstrong: Like, pieces of a broken windshield?

Bill: So a car accident?

Dr. Armstrong: Well, again, I can’t be certain. But her cuts and abrasions, they’re consistent with that. Yes. At any rate, whatever happened to this woman, it must’ve been one hell of an ordeal. So much so that she’s completely shutting down.

Bill: And that’s why she won’t talk.

Dr. Armstrong: It’s my guess. Now, you said that she didn’t have any id on her, at all?

Bill: No, nothing. And when i gently questioned her about family, I got nothing. Except when I brought up a son, and then she was somewhat responsive.

Dr. Armstrong: Hm. Well, my friend, I commend you for helping this woman. Who knows what might have happened to her if you hadn’T.

Bill: Listen, she– she was so vulnerable and scared, huddled in that alley. I mean, who wouldn’t feel for someone like that? I just wish I knew what her story was ’cause I’m telling you this is not it. This is not who this woman is. Now I can only get so much out of her. I can only push so hard. I wish she would tell me her name. I wish I knew who you are. Hi, I’m denise.

[Alarm blaring]

Mike: We’ve got no time to lose. Any minute now. Do you hear that?

[Siren wails in distance]

Sheila: Hear what?

Mike: That noise outside. It’s a siren.

Sheila: You’re imagining things.

Mike: No. I just heard a siren now.

Sheila: Would you get a grip? You’re not helping the situation.

Mike: You wanna know what’s not helping? You, sheila. Thinkin’ this can go on. Holed up here playin’ doting, loving mama to the, the, the bed ridden, back from the dead son who just so happens to hate your guts.

Sheila: Finn does not hate me.

Mike: Oh, yeah? Well, maybe I’ll ask him. Okay? Finn–

Sheila: No, no, he’s resting mike. Stop.

Mike: Seems to be a little more than just resting. Did you– finn. Ya harpooned him with another syringe, didn’t you?

Sheila: I had to give him another sedative. I had to. I– he knows the truth about li, that she’s dead. He was very upset–

Mike: Whoa, whoa. Back up. Only way finn could’ve learned that is from you.

Sheila: I felt finn deserved to know the truth. So I told him– I told him how I chased li in my car and she lost control and you know the rest.

[Mike scoffs]

Mike: More importantly, so does finn now.

Sheila: I have never seen my baby more enraged. I needed– I needed to do something to calm him down, didn’t I?

Mike: Jeez-louise, sheila. This whole situation is getting way out of hand. You gotta see that.

Sheila: Okay, things aren’t going the way that I had planned but we’re just gonna make the best of it.

Mike: Well, maybe you will, but when the cops come bustin’ through that door, I’m not gonna be here. No freakin’ way does this guy wind up in the slammer.

Sheila: Don’t you dare bring the police to my doorstep, michael. I swear, I–

[Door slams]

Finn: The police are on to you, sheila. It’s only a matter of time before you’re caught. You’re finally going to pay for everything that you’ve done to me, steffy and my mother.

[Phone ringing]

Bill: Uh, it’s– it’s my son. I– I need to take this.

[Phone ringing] Hey, liam, what’s– what’s goin’ on?

Liam: Hey, yourself. Good time to talk?

Bill: No, actually, it’s, it’s not. I have someone here.

Liam: Oh, yeah. Who? Dad… everything okay?

Bill: Well, you– you know that wyatt and I, we– we had dinner earlier. Right?

Liam: Yeah, no, I know. I’m– I’m here with wyatt right now. Say, ‘hi.’

Wyatt: Hey, hey, dad. Are you all right? Yeah, I’m– I’m fine. But the woman I found in the alley after you and i had dinner isn’T.

Wyatt & liam: What?

Bill: Tried to help her, but she really wasn’t responsive.

Wyatt: Well, did you call an ambulance?

Bill: She refused to go to the hospital. Liam: Okay– well then, what– what did you do?

Bill: Um… well, i brought her home with me.

Liam: So is it– that’s who you’re with right now? The woman from the alley?

Bill: Yeah. Uh, i called a doctor friend of mine. I wanted him to examine her. Look, it’s clear that she has been through something extremely traumatic.

>>Wyatt: Okay…

Liam: You were not kidding.

Wyatt: Yeah.

Liam: Um, okay. Yeah. Uh, you know, just um, uh, be careful. You never know what you’re getting into.

Bill: Yeah. Don’t– don’t worry about it. I’m fine. Anyway, enough about that. I want you to tell me about steffy. How’s she doing?

Liam: Oh, uh yeah. Well, I’ll– I’ll spare you the details now but um, she’s uh– [Mouths “steffy”] She’s– she’s struggling.

Bill: Well, of course she’s struggling, liam. She lost finn. He was everything to her. She loved finn so much. Um, listen guys. I– I gotta go. What– what is it? What– what’s upsetting you? Let– let me help you.

Li: You’re a fighter.

Keep fighting.

Bill: Is it your family? Is there someone you love? Is… is it your son?

Finn: You will never

lose me.

Bill: If it’s your son, you– you just have to tell me something about him. Where– where is he? Is he– is he worried about you? Does he have any idea what happened? I– I will bring him to you.

[Li struggles to talk]

Bill: You have to tell me who he is. What is your son’s name?

Li: In…

Billy: You okay?

Victoria: Yeah, I-I’m fine. I-I’m sorry. I know, I jumped a mile.

Billy: It’s alright. You know, this old place. It cracks and pops when the wind blows. You remember how scared the kids used to get?

Victoria: [Chuckles] Yes, I do. Now they just make a game out of it.

Billy: Yeah. “What monster made that sound?” Is the, uh, the grumpy goblin — is that still the winner?

Victoria: Well, now that Katie’s in her sci-fi phase, she likes to speculate about an alien who’s taken up residence in the attic.

Billy: I do not believe that she is reading sci-fi. Seems like yesterday we were teaching her the alphabet.

Victoria: I sort of wish that we could just stop time — you know? — And keep them at this age where they’re old enough to not need us to hold their hand anymore, but they’re young enough to just be innocent and get excited about everything.

*************************

Victoria: [Sighs] What — what the hell are you doing out there?

Ashland: I was debating whether to even make my presence known.

Victoria: As opposed to what? Hiding out in the bushes and spying on me. What’s wrong with you?

Ashland: I just wanted to see you one last time.

Victoria: You shouldn’t be here right now. Maybe I should call the police. Do I need a restraining order against you?

Ashland: I’m sorry, okay? I didn’t mean to scare you. But after everything we’ve shared, I just…

[Sighs] I don’t know how to say goodbye.

Victoria: [Sighing] Ughh!

Days of Our Lives Update

Days of Our Lives logo

Update written by Joseph

Kayla sits in the town square, reading the news on her phone and asks if yesterday was get out of jail free day. Steve joins her. Kayla complains to him about what the Governor has done and the amount of chances Kristen and Orpheus have already gotten. Steve bets the one thing Kristen and Orpheus share is an overwhelming thirst for revenge.

Nicole joins Chloe at Basic Black. Nicole questions where Brady is and talks to Chloe about a positive business dinner she had, but then notes that Chloe is distracted. Chloe guesses that Nicole hasn’t heard the news. Nicole says she’s been on a plane, so she asks what news. Chloe thinks back to finding out that Kristen was pardoned.

Brady is outside the Brady Pub, calling for security to be doubled at the Salem Inn, his parents’ house, and the office. Eric approaches and startles Brady. Brady says to call him when everything is set up and hangs up. Eric asks if he thinks Kristen is going to come at him like that. Brady says he doesn’t know what the hell she’s going to do, but he knows he’s not going to get a lot of warning.

Ava and Jake wake up together on the air mattress in their apartment which Jake complains about. Kristen wakes up comfortable in the bed, remarking that he could try sleeping on a cot in prison. Krissten comments that she was having a lovely dream and thanks to the Governor, she’s going to make those dreams come true.

Gabi wakes up alone in bed. Li Shin is up in the room, finishing a phone call as he says “I love you too”. Gabi remarks that she hopes he didn’t end the call on her account. Li apologizes for waking her up. Gabi then questions who he was saying “I love you” to.

Nicole is shocked as Chloe reveals to her that Kristen was pardoned. Nicole questions how the hell she pulled that off. Chloe says she has no idea. Nicole worries about Brady.

Brady and Eric sit together in the Pub. Brady says he doesn’t want to overreact. Eric is not sure it’s possible to overreact when it comes to Kristen. Eric asks about Rachel. Brady responds that’s what worries him the most.

Chloe informs Nicole that Kristen had called Brady from prison a couple hours before the pardon, asking him to bring Rachel to visit but he said no and then told her that Rachel was still in California with Theresa and Tate. Nicole worries that Kristen now knows where Rachel is.

Brady informs Eric that he talked to Theresa, who is going to talk to Shane Donovan about security in case Kristen plans on going to California, but that might not be the first thing on her agenda. Eric wonders what the might be. Brady says the only thing he’s sure about is that he never knows what the hell Kristen is thinking.

Nicole asks Chloe if Brady is beefing up security. Chloe confirms that’s what he’s doing now but says they could have all the security in the world. Nicole says after everything Kristen has done, she could still get a full pardon, so who knows what else she could get away with.

Brady mentions not getting much sleep as he was up all night, just waiting for Kristen to walk through the door. Brady knows that’s not her style as she’d love the idea of him waiting up all night, knowing she’s loose but not knowing where she is. Brady calls it a special kind of Hell.

Kristen drinks coffee in bed and talks about how good it is, joking that she might never leave as Ava and Jake are annoyed. Kristen thanks Ava for letting her borrow clothes, talking about how it’s preferable to the prison wear. Jake brings up that he and Gabi both owe Kristen for her vote in the DiMera board. Kristen assures that she hasn’t forgotten. Jake asks if they are even now but Kristen says not even close. Ava comments on Kristen hogging the covers on the bed. Kristen jokes that no one else ever complained about anything with her in bed. Kristen then decides lounging around is not on the agenda, so she is going to stir the pot everywhere as she goes to get dressed.

Kayla worries to Steve if they should even be out in public while Orpheus is on the loose. Steve assures that he has his ear to the ground and he won’t be surprised. Jada then approaches and greets Steve, surprising him. Steve gets up and hugs her, asking why she didn’t tell him that she was coming so soon. Jada says it all happened so fast. Steve introduces Jada to Kayla. Kayla mentions loving Jada’s dad Marcus and calls him a great doctor. Steve agrees that he was a great man and his friend since the orphanage days. Steve adds that he still misses him. Kayla says she was really sad to hear he had passed away. Steve asks Jada about her interview. She reveals it was yesterday and she got the job. Steve says that’s great and mentions that he told Kayla he recommended her to Rafe. Steve asks when she starts. Jada reveals that she started yesterday and hit the ground running so she wasn’t able to call and thank him. Steve jokes about Rafe having her working already. Jada informs him that Rafe actually assigned her to Abigail’s case and that Kayla was going to be her next call. Kayla asks why. Jada explains that Sarah was brought in yesterday for questioning which Kayla questions. Jada says she can’t go in to much detail but she questioned her about where she was on the night of Abigail’s murder. Steve asks what reason she would have to question Sarah. Jada repeats that she can’t get in to it, but she’s more concerned with Sarah’s medical condition and her hallucinations. Jada says she’s just trying to understand the situation, so she’s going to need to access Sarah’s medical records. Kayla says she can’t just hand them over because of medical privacy but Jada points out exceptions for law enforcement. Steve suggests they talk this out over breakfast at the Pub on him.

Eric gets that Brady is upset and worried, but Kristen is Rachel’s mom, so maybe all she wants is contact. Brady says that’s what Kristen said on the phone yesterday before the pardon. Brady is glad Rachel is in California, so he had the perfect excuse to not have to take his daughter on a prison visit. Brady adds that now that Kristen is out, he can’t stop her from going to California and he can’t tell his daughter that she can’t see her mom. Brady needs to find a way to control how and when she sees her. Eric suggests to get Justin started that as quick as possible. Brady says it bugs him the way this all started because he thought Kristen got caught because she got careless and desperate to see Rachel, but she got caught almost as soon as she got in to town which makes him think she planned it but he knows it sounds paranoid. Brady states that he just has a very bad feeling about all of this. A tattooed young man sitting at the bar attempts to steal money from the tip jar but Eric catches him.

Kristen comes out of the bathroom as Ava is massaging Jake. Kristen remarks that the night on the air mattress really took it out on Jake. Kristen tells Jake that she will make it up to him by letting him stay home while she makes excuses for him when she goes to see Gabi at the office. Jake asks if she’s going to collect on that favor and warns her that Gabi and Li Shin won’t be as willing to give up their bed as they were. Kristen responds that she’s aiming a bit higher than a sleepover. Jake asks what that means. Kristen tells Jake that he’s her brother and family but Gabi means nothing to her which makes her vote for Gabi a sizable favor so she thinks a sizable thank you is in order. Jake angrily asks what exactly Kristen wants from Gabi. Kristen tells him to calm down and calls Gabi his girlfriend which Ava quickly corrects. Kristen is sure Gabi will be thrilled to see her and be willing to do whatever it takes to get her back on her feet, bringing up the support Gabi got when she was released from prison. Kristen says she’s just giving the chance to pay it forward as she exits. Jake tells Ava that he’s going to take a long, hot shower to see if he can un knot his back. Jake stops to ask Ava if he should call Gabi to warn her. Ava points out that if Gabi reads the paper, she already knows that Kristen is coming. Jake agrees and then goes to shower while Ava looks upset.

Li jokes about Gabi sounding jealous but tells her not to worry as he was just talking to his mother. Gabi questions that since they’ve been dating for over a month and this is the first time she’s hearing about his mother. Li blames his father’s presence dominating any conversation about his parents. Li offers to call her back to prove it to her. Gabi says then he would resent her for not trusting him. Gabi guesses she just doesn’t know him as well as she thought. Li responds that a little mystery keeps it interesting. Gabi remarks that she’s an open book. Li brings up Gabi’s unusually close working relationship with her most recent ex. Li says at first, Jake was put off that they were together but not anymore so maybe Jake knows something that he doesn’t. Gabi assures that Jake doesn’t care because he’s with Ava now. Li asks if that bothers her. Gabi says she’ll show him how little that bothers her as Li removes his shirt and they start kissing in bed.

Nicole reminds Chloe that no matter what Kristen tries to pull, Brady loves Chloe and knows what Kristen is all about. Chloe says she knows she’s right and she does trust Brady, but they have this weird bond like Kristen still has a hold over him, like she’s still kind of under his skin. Chloe guesses Nicole knows what she’s talking about as sometimes when you’ve both moved on, you still have a pull towards another person. Nicole says that worked out great for them. Chloe asks if she’s talking about Rafe. Nicole asks who else she would be talking about, and then says not her too.

Eric warns the man at the bar that he’s been working really hard for those tips. Eric tells him that it doesn’t have to be this bad and offers to help him. Eric goes to get his card to give him but the man instead shoves Eric aside and runs out the door, right as Steve, Kayla, and Jada arrive. Steve asks what they missed.

Ava paces, telling herself not to be an idiot. Jake comes out of the shower and asks what he missed and why she’s suddenly an idiot. Ava calls that a private conversation. Jake asks what she doesn’t want him to know. Ava says she’s trying really hard not to be the same jealous idiot that screwed up her last two relationships. Jake asks who she is jealous of and says not Gabi. Ava knows it sounds crazy but when Kristen called Gabi his girlfriend, he did not contradict her and then he wanted to warn Gabi about Kristen coming which got under her skin. Ava adds that the irony of all this is that she originally went after Jake to get under Gabi’s skin but now she thinks she’s falling for him. Ava admits she didn’t plan it but she doesn’t want to set herself up for disappointment if he’s still in love with Gabi.

Gabi and Li go to the DiMera Office. Gabi says they might be a little late but it was worth it. Li starts to tell her there is something she should know, but Gabi walks in to the office to find Kristen sitting at the desk.

Jada questions who the guy at the Pub was and if everything is okay. Eric says everything is fine and it was just a misunderstanding. Jada offers to track him down. Brady asks who she is. Steve introduces Jada as the daughter of one of his oldest friends and the newest member of the Salem Police Department. Brady says it’s nice to meet her but he has to go make sure Chloe is okay. Brady adds that he heard about the pardons and questions what the hell the Governor was thinking as he then exits the Pub. Steve remarks that it’s like the Governor released a plague of locusts on them.

Gabi questions if Kristen broke out of prison and says she’s going right back as she pulls her phone out. Li explains that the Governor pardoned Kristen yesterday. Gabi asks why he would do that. Kristen says they are not going to talk about her, but about business and how she can help Gabi clean up the mess she has made of it.

Jake questions Ava thinking he’s still in love with Gabi. Ava says she doesn’t know but she knows she’s been an also ran and second choice a couple times and does not want to go down that road again. Ava says that with Steve, it was always Kayla hovering around and Rafe and Nicole was the same thing as deep down she always knew. Ava asks Jake if she’s a consolation prize to him. Jake brings up Ava getting involved with him to stick it to Gabi. Jake admits that it was the same for him and that it probably wasn’t the best way to start a relationship but he’s not Steve or Rafe. Jake tells her that with he and Gabi, he was an also ran too.

Nicole complains to Chloe that she’s trying to tell her how happy she and Rafe are, yet Chloe goes there. Chloe says she’s not saying that Nicole doesn’t love Rafe, but brings up her and Eric. Nicole says she already heard this from Allie and asks what she has to do. Nicole assures that Eric being in town is irrelevant as she is a happily married woman. Brady arrives and hugs Chloe, making sure she is okay. Chloe asks if there’s any news. Brady says not yet. Nicole jokes that maybe she should’ve stayed in New York.

Steve, Kayla, Eric, and Jada sit together to eat at the Pub. Kayla explains to Jada how Roman and Bo are her brothers and both cops while Roman is Eric’s father. Kayla adds that Shawn is Bo’s son and a cop too, so the Brady Pub has always been known as the place where all the cops hang out. Jada mentions being here once before and having a run-in with Roman’s short order cook, Clyde. Steve jokes about Clyde. Eric says that Roman believes in second chances. Kayla asks how many miles Eric ran today. Eric says none as he was on his way but he bumped in to Brady. Jada points out that she is also a runner. Eric mentions some great trails through the park and offers to show her some time. Jada asks what Eric does. Kayla comments that Eric is sort of between things. Eric explains that he used to be a priest and is now trying to figure out what to do next.

Nicole assures Brady that she has his back. Brady says he’s just worried about Rachel. Brady mentions seeing Eric earlier. Nicole decides to give them some privacy and says she has an errand to run as she then exits. Brady asks if Chloe is okay. Chloe says now that he is here, she is, as they kiss.

Kristen gives Gabi a folder and says she needs to redo the projections because they don’t account for inflation and because she told her to. Kristen reminds Gabi of why her name is on the door. Gabi says she will never forget that Kristen made it happen and she will always be grateful for that. Kristen points out that if it wasn’t for her, Gabi would be out on the streets. Kristen warns that it would be fairly easy to push Gabi out with another vote with slightly different results.

Jake tells Ava about how Gabi had already found the one before he came in to the picture, in his twin brother Stefan, and they would still be together if Stefan wasn’t dead. Jake clarifies that it doesn’t mean they didn’t love each other but in the end, it was amazing how quickly what they had fell apart because they had no foundation. Jake admits they didn’t trust each other and that it hurt badly at the time, but he realized they weren’t the love of their lives. Jake assures Ava that he is not still pining after Gabi and that he is over her. Jake adds that Gabi being all over Shin doesn’t bother him that much because he has something better to think about. Jake then brings up Ava saying she’s falling for him. Ava clarifies that she said she thinks she is. Jake responds that he knows he’s falling for her, so Ava asks how. Jake talks about counting down the time at work until he gets to see her again. Ava admits she does that too. Jake says most people can’t see through her tough exterior, but he sees right through it and sees the real her as they then kiss.

Gabi questions Li if Kristen can force another round of votes. Gabi argues that the odds of Kristen getting voted in to her place are zero because EJ and Chad would never go for that. Kristen agrees that they’d rather torch the place than hand it over to her, but that doesn’t mean she can’t throw all things DiMera in to utter chaos. Kristen says they got off to a tense start but says she’s happy to have Gabi in charge and comes in peace, only to cash in on a favor. Gabi questions what Kristen wants that she has the power to grant her. Gabi asks what she wants and if she’s going to end up in prison for giving it to her.

Eric tells Jada that it was nice meeting her. Jada tells him to have a good run. Eric assumes Steve and Kayla will be showing Jada around town. Steve says they offered, but she’s too busy with work. Jada mentions that it hasn’t made it easy to find a place since the Salem Inn is not really sustainable on a cop’s salary. Eric points out that Roman rents rooms upstairs at the Pub that are reasonable. Jada thanks him and says she’ll keep that in mind. Jada tells him that maybe she’ll see him on a run. Eric then exits the Pub.

Nicole walks through the park when the tattooed young man from earlier at the Pub approaches and demands Nicole give him her purse.

Recap written by Christine

Nick was on Victoria’s doorstep. He knocked and called out to her. It was noisy out, due to high winds and barking dogs. Inside the house, Victoria asked Ashland what he meant when he said there was only one way for this to end. He was in a rage, and he took a step toward her, causing her to back away. Her eyes were filled with tears. Nick called, and Victoria said she needed to answer the phone, but Ashland said no. She glanced at the fireplace poker. Victoria said that it was her security detail, and if she didn’t answer within 15 minutes, they’d come inside. “Well then, we’re gonna have to make this quick,” Ashland replied.

Back outside, Nick saw the lights were on, but he thought Victoria might be asleep. He recorded a voice message asking her to call and let him know she was safe, then he left. Ashland didn’t buy Victoria’s bluff about the security detail calling her. He said she’d been lying to him for weeks, so he didn’t believe her now. He was sorry it had to end this way, but maybe it was inevitable. He said said that they were both unique powerhouses and driven, so maybe it was a mistake to think they could work this relationship out, because both of them couldn’t be on top – someone had to fall. She did not understand his ramblings, and she wanted him to leave. He pulled out the Loch family ring she gave him as a gift. He reminded her that she’d said it was supposed to represent their bright shiny future, but it only represented her lies and deception. He said he’d never wear it again, but he’d keep it as a reminder of how cruel people could be. “I’m cruel after everything that you’ve done?,” she shouted. He screamed that he loved her and she used that love against him. She began to point out that he started it, but he wouldn’t let her get a word in. He went on a tirade arguing that she was worst that he was, because he was willing to become a better person for her, and he walked through fire for her.

Victoria begged Ashland to calm down. He snarled that he risked his life pulling her from that burning car only to have her destroy his life. He wished that he’d left her to burn to death. “I should’ve let you die. Because maybe then I could still believe now that you loved me til the bitter end,” he said.

Victoria contended that Ashland only had himself to blame for how his life turned out. He advanced on her, ordering her to stop saying that because she sounded like Victor. She said even if she’d died in that crash, he wouldn’t have been loved because she’d fallen in love with who he pretended to be. “And who was that, Victoria? A stronger younger version of your dad?,” he asked. She said it wasn’t even close. She saw him for who he was now – he wasn’t the strong and powerful Ashalnd Locke, and he wasn’t anywhere near the man her father was, he wasn’t even poor pathetic Bobby DeFranco, who he’d left in New Jersey.

Victoria yelled at Ashland that he was pathetic, sad, ugly and disgusting, and no one could ever love him. Ashland grabbed Victoria by the upper arms and ordered her not to say that. She broke free and shoved him off, then she ran over and grabbed the fireplace poker. He approached again, but he backed up when she held the poker to his chest. “You bitch,” he snarled. Victoria ran toward the door, and Ashland followed, saying he wasn’t going to let her leave. Just then, Nick burst in and ordered Ashland to get back. Nick demanded to know what was going on. “Your sister and I are saying our final goodbyes,” Ashland said.

Nick got caught up to speed, and he positioned himself between Ashland and Victoria. Victoria said she’d repeatedly asked Ashland to leave. Ashland said he didn’t break the law since Victoria let him in. she pointed out that he’d been lurking outside. Nick told Victoria to call the police. Ashland said there was no need since Victoria said the security team was on the way, in spite of the fact that there was no intended malice on his part. Nick argued that everything Ashland did to the family had malice. Ashland groused about Nick breaking up a conversation between a husband and wife. Victoria pointed out that they weren’t married. Ashland rushed toward Victoria, screaming about their unbreakable bond, but Nick pushed him backward. “You keep your hands of me!,” Ashland ordered. Nick told Victoria to call the police, and she turned to get her phone from the kitchen, while Ashland demanded that she stay put. Nick told Ashland not to talk to Victoria like that.

Victoria stopped and stayed in the living room. She heard Ashland say he’d talk to her however he damn well pleased. Nick shoved Ashland and said if he didn’t leave, there was going to be a problem. Ashland maintained that he didn’t do anything wrong. Victoria countered that Ashland broke into her house, threatened her and grabbed her. Victoria went to get the phone. Nick snapped when he heard that Ashland had put his hands on Victoria. He punched Ashland in the face, and he fell and hit his head on the fireplace hearth.

Ashland was still. Nick didn’t believe Ashland was really knocked out, since he’d been faking since since day one. He kicked Ashland and ordered him to get up. Ashland remained motionless, and a concerned Nick knelt down by him. Victoria came running back in and asked what was wrong. Nick couldn’t feel a pulse. Victoria wrapped her hand around Ashland’s head to feel for a pulse too. She couldn’t find one either, and when she withdrew her hand, Nick saw that it was coated in blood. The siblings shared an alarmed look.

While Nick closed the patio doors, Victoria did CPR, then she told Nick Ashland was dead. Victoria never called 911, because she’d hoped Nick could get Ashland out without calling the authorities. Nick said to call them now, but Victoria wasn’t sure that was the right thing to do. She thought maybe they should call their father, but he said no. “I’m responsible. I hit him. We got to do the right thing. When has circumventing the law ever worked out for us?,” he said. Victoria brought up the consequences. Nick thought it was self defense – Ashland attacked Victoria, so Nick had to hit him, and he fell. Victoria wasn’t sure the district attorney would see it that way. Nick said to call Chance then, because he was family, and he could help. Victoria got on the phone while Nick went outside for air.

Chance was at Crimson Lights with Sharon. He wanted coffee because he figured it’d be a late night at work. He said when the weather got weird, things tended to happen. Sharon looked uncomfortable, and Chance apologized. She said it was okay. She acknowledged that Rey’s accident happened on a very foggy night, but the crash turned out to be unrelated to the weather. Chance didn’t want to bring up bad memories for Sharon. She said it was fine – she was thinking about Rey too. She asked how things were out there, and he said it was mostly fine, just some fallen trees. He hoped he was just being paranoid. Victoria called Chance and asked him to come by because Ashland got hurt.

Victoria went outside and stood with Nick. He told her how he’d been about to leave the house earlier, but something didn’t feel right, so he came in through the back door. He felt he needed to go over the night’s events to get his story straight for Chance. “He was coming after you again, so I hit him and then he fell down. I was just trying to stop him. Obviously, I didn’t want him to die,” Nick said. Victoria said it was an accident, simple as that. He didn’t think it felt that simple. He decided to go walk this off. He left.

Victoria followed Nick out into the woods. She told him he saved her life tonight. He wasn’t so sure. She said she could tell from the look in Ashland’s eyes that he was going to kill her. She repeated what Ashland said about last goodbyes and how he wished she died in the car accident. Nick thought that was sick. She said Nick did what he had to do to stop Ashland. Victoria was grateful. He was glad he was there for her, but he took a man’s life tonight and there was no changing that. She said he had her back, just like he’d always promised, and she’d do whatever she could for him. He knew. They hugged, and he said they had to get back to the house.

Victoria and Nick went back to the house. She asked what he was going to say to Chance. He said he’d just tell the truth. They noticed the patio doors rattling, and Nick thought he didn’t close them tightly enough. They soon noticed that Ashland was gone. There was just a small pool of blood on the floor and hearth where he’d fallen.

Nikki entered the Grand Phoenix. Victor called and relayed Adam’s warning that Ashland was out for blood. Victor wanted Nikki to be safe. She was more worried about Victoria. He reminded her that he had everything under control. The call ended, and Nikki met with Phyllis, who was hoping Nikki’s investigators came up with something on Diane. Nikki was disappointed to say that they hadn’t. Ashley texted that she couldn’t make it. She also told them not to worry about Diane using Allie, because Allie could hold her own. Phyllis didn’t have the same faith in Allie, because she was lovely and sweet, and Diane took advantage of people like that. Phyllis ranted about Diane, and Nikki asked what had her so riled up.

Phyllis was miffed because she met with Summer earlier, and Summer had acted like Diane deserved a medal for saving Harrison from Ashland. Nikki said that was ridiculous. Nikki was there at the park, and all Diane did was send a text to Michael. Phyllis said Diane probably did it so everyone would fall all over her. Nikki said you would’ve thought Diane saved Harrison from a burning building with the way Michael gushed over her. Phyllis wondered what was wrong with Michael. Nikki said Ashland gave Diane a look like she’d betrayed him. It made Nikki wonder if Ashland and Diane had an arrangement, and she double crossed him. Nikki said the worst part was Ashland got out of jail in a matter of hours, and now this situation made him even more furious.

Phyllis was sorry Ashland was pointing his anger toward the Newmans instead of someone who deserved it, like Diane. Nikki was sure Diane would walk away unscathed, since she inexplicably had a charmed life. Phyllis thought they should make it look like Diane was intentionally trying to sabotage Marchetti. Nikki really liked this idea. She said she knew she could count on Phyllis to think of something devious and underhanded. Phyllis said she was better at this than Nikki.

Phyllis said this would be tricky because they didn’t want to actually hurt the company or Summer. They also didn’t have anyone on the inside, because Ashley worked strictly at Jabot. Phyllis said that there were some people coming form Italy to work and some new hires. She said it was ironic because Summer offered her a job at Marchetti, and she turned it down. Nikki assumed Phyllis didn’t take the job because of Jack. Phyllis said she didn’t want to leave him. Nikki was sorry it didn’t work out. Phyllis alluded to the point that things had been going well between her and Jack until Diane’s arrival. That was why she was willing to do whatever it took to get that bitch out of their lives for good.

Phyllis thought it was too bad Chelsea didn’t take the job at Marchetti, because she could’ve helped them out, since she liked schemes. Nikki said they needed someone with an ax to grind toward Diane. Nikki thought Phyllis should tell Summer she wanted to work at Marchetti. Phyllis said that she couldn’t do that because she ran the hotel. Nikki thought the place could run itself. Phyllis had an idea.

The winds whipped around Diane on Jack’s doorstep, pelting her with leaves. Jack ushered her inside. He told her that when he was a kid they used to call summer wind that came out of nowhere wicked winds, and it was a bad omen. He said when wind like this kicked up, trouble was right around the corner. “And here you are,” he said, smiling. She was sorry to come unannounced, but she came to talk to Kyle. He said Kyle and Summer were gone. Jack thanked Diane for the situation at the park.

Diane modestly stated that she did what anyone would’ve done – she knew about the restraining order, so when Ashland showed up, she texted Michael. Jack said Diane still took a risk, and he knew Ashland was playing on her emotions. Diane said that Jack deserved some credit too because he warned her about Ashland. Jack thought Diane was brave to risk getting on the wrong side of Ashland. Diane didn’t think she was in danger. He didn’t know why she wasn’t just thanking him for the praise instead of arguing with him. She thanked him. He said Kyle was very pleased with the way she handled this. She said she’d do anything for Kyle. Diane had come to ask Kyle some work questions, but she wondered if Jack could help instead.

Jack said Marchetti was Kyle’s domain, so Diane should ask him. Diane said her questions were larger and not specific to Marchetti – things like protocol and early expectations vs. long term goals. Jack was sure those were rudimentary questions for Diane, who’d been in business the whole time they’d known each other. He was sure that pretending to be dead hadn’t taken away her ability to handle new situations. She said she might be rusty. He told her to fake it. He was sure she could bluff her way through this and hundreds of other situations. She asked if he was teasing or being mean. “I’ll never tell,” he replied. He offered her a drink, and she accepted. She accurately guessed the kind of drink he was going to make for himself, and he said she knew him well.

Diane was nervous about her job. Jack was surprised anything made her nervous. She said she didn’t let many people see that side of her. He was flattered. She saw no point in trying to fool him, given their history. She agreed with what he said earlier – she could fake her way through any scenario, but this job was different. She didn’t want to let Kyle down. He said Kyle would understand that she had to learn on the job. Diane said she also had to impress Summer and everyone else. Jack was sure Kyle would give Diane the benefit of the doubt every time, but Summer could be tougher. Diane said she couldn’t bluff or use her old bag of tricks with Summer. Jack asked if one of Diane’s tricks was showing up asking for Kyle when she actually only wanted Jack’s advice. “I’ll never tell,” she said, and they smiled.

Jack thought Diane should stop putting so much pressure on herself. She said she had a good thing going and she didn’t want to mess it up. He said that Kyle and Summer were intelligent, rational people who knew she wasn’t an expert in public relations. He thought all they expected was commitment and honesty. She thought being honest in PR was unusual, but he said not for companies under the Jabot umbrella. He guessed that was the hardest part for her. She hoped people would stop rubbing her history in her face. He said old habits died hard.

Diane didn’t take this job opportunity for granted. It meant a lot that she was going to work so closely with Kyle and Summer. She also appreciated Jack for not preventing them from hiring her. She was sure it was hard for him to see Kyle readily accept her. He said it proved something was missing in Kyle’s life, and her return filled a void. She was sure he must resent her for leaving him to raise Kyle alone. He said resentment was a waste of time and energy. She thanked him for his remarkable restraint. He wanted her to know it wasn’t for her benefit. She hoped that one day they could be friends. She’d made a bet with herself that she could pull that off. She asked what her odds were. “You don’t want to know,” he replied.

Later, Diane was pleased because she and Jack had gone upstairs and peeked in on the sleeping Harrison. Jack said their grandson could put a smile on your face. She loved hearing him say “our grandson.” She was so glad she decided to reclaim her life – even if it ended tomorrow, spending time with Harrison and Kyle made it worth it, even though Harrison didn’t know she was his grandmother. Jack said that was for Kyle to tell him. Diane decided to leave. The wind had let up, and Jack said maybe there was no trouble tonight after all.

[ Knock on door ]

Vick?

[ Knock on door ] Victoria, it’s billy.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Hey. Come in.

Billy: Hey. Thank you. I, uh, hope it’s not a bad time.

Victoria: What are you doing here?

Billy: Well, I went by your office, and your — your mother said I could find you here.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] What can I do for you?

Billy: I, uh — I just wanted to fill you in. I have to go out of town for work, to los angeles with billy, and so I’m not gonna be able to pick up the kids at camp. Just wanted to make sure that’s not a problem for you.

Victoria: Well, duty calls. If you’re gone, you’re gone.

Billy: You okay? You seem a little tense.

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Chloe: Hey, there.

Sally: Hi. Thank you for rearranging your evening to meet with me.

Chloe: No problem. So, is this about the job offer?

Sally: So, I have been given the go-ahead to bring you on as coo. But I need to be upfront with you about the situation you’re gonna be walking into.

Chloe: Transparency is good.

Sally: Okay, here’s the deal. Nick and victoria agreed to keep me on for a trial period of three months, at which point they will assess my performance. Which means that you, too, will be coming on, on a trial basis. So there’s no guarantees. Nothing is set.

Chloe: So, the pressure is on?

Sally: If you are not okay with being hired under these terms, I totally understand.

Chloe: Just to be clear, this isn’t you saying you’d rather I didn’t accept the original offer, that you would rather take on someone more palatable to victoria and nick, someone with more experience, a heavy hitter?

Sally: No, that is exactly what the newmans assumed that I would do. But you and I work really well together. I think we just click, and I trust you implicitly.

Chloe: I agree.

Sally: And I have absolute faith in your ability to rise to the occasion and learn the business in record time, which is exactly what I told them. So they said that I could choose my own right hand. So if you still want the job and you’re okay with living in the gray area —

Chloe: I am more than okay with it. Really?

Chloe: Really.

Sally: Hallelujah.

[ Chuckles ]

Chloe: I appreciate the offer and I accept the challenge.

Sally: Well, it will definitely be that.

Chloe: And for the record, I don’t just want this job because chelsea decided to end our partnership. It’s not about becoming unemployed. Well, only to the extent that I wouldn’t have been available otherwise.

Sally: Yeah, and I’m glad that you were. And now you’re taken. So welcome aboard, chloe.

Chloe: Ooh! Thank you. And I plan to work my tail off to get this right.

Sally: I know. That’s why I hired you.

Chloe: Well, I — I also have to live up to the standard that you’ve set. Clearly, you have made an impact at newman media, or victoria never would have kept you on, given that you’re involved with the former ceo, one of her least-favorite humans.

Noah: I wanted to wait until you were a little bit more settled at newman before I brought this up. Mom and allie, they kept saying that I should be honest with you. And it’s been weighing on me.

Nick: [ Chuckling ] Okay. Starting to worry me a little bit.

Noah: It’s — it’s not gonna be an easy thing to discuss with you, but [Sighs] Here it goes. First off, I need you to know that this decision has nothing to do with you and everything to do with what I want. Which if you would have asked me a month ago, I wouldn’t even be able to articulate to you, because I hadn’t figured it out yet.

Nick: Okay. Go on.

Noah: I’ve kept trying on different versions of myself and — and taking stabs at different career paths, hoping something would feel right and something would give my life direction, give it meaning. I think I finally found what that thing is.

Nick: I’m pretty sure I know where this is heading. You want out of new hope?

Noah: [ Sighs ]

Victoria: I just have a lot on my mind.

Billy: I’m sure you do. I heard ashland is back in town.

Victoria: Oh. He’s the least of my worries.

Billy: Well, still, he’s got no reason to be here. I mean, why’s he still hanging around?

Victoria: I imagine that it has to do with harrison.

Billy: I mean, he can’t honestly think that that door is still open. He lied to his son about having cancer. He let kyle take him to milan to raise him. He’s got a restraining order out against them.

Victoria: Which he violated today.

Billy: Are you kidding me? Did he get caught?

Victoria: The police arrested him in the middle of chancellor park. And from what I understand, ashland has already made bail.

Billy: Figures.

Victoria: Hopefully, he’ll — he’ll figure out that there’s nothing tying him here and he’ll leave.

[ Slam in wind ]

[ Sighing ] Ughh!

Noah: I love the work new hope does, and I have been proud to work alongside you and see that vision through. But — but, dad, it’s your vision. And I’m still happy to support the organization in any way that I can. But my heart’s just not in running at full-time.

Nick: Where is your heart?

Noah: I think when you hear what I have planned next, it’s gonna…surprise you.

Nick: Alright, well, I’m interested. How long have you been thinking about making a change?

Noah: Since around the time mariah and tessa got married. And putting together that whole unique experience for them, kind of art-directing it all, it — it felt good. It felt right.

Nick: Yeah, um, [Chuckles] I guess I thought that was kind of like a — you know, like a one-off thing — you know, this quirky, fun-loving couple tying the knot. And you just kinda —

Noah: No, I’m not talking about being a wedding planner, if that’s what you were thinking.

Nick: Okay, okay. Uh, alright, then, uh, what are you talking about?

Noah: [ Sighs ]

Victoria: [ Sighs ]

Billy: You okay?

Victoria: Yeah, I-I’m fine. I-I’m sorry. I know, I jumped a mile.

Billy: It’s alright. You know, this old place. It cracks and pops when the wind blows. You remember how scared the kids used to get?

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] Yes, I do.

Billy: I hear you. Although it’s nice to see the world through their innocent eyes. Cuts through the cynicism. Helps you see the bright side a little bit, doesn’t it?

Victoria: That’s true. It’s one of the many things that I’m looking forward to about them coming home again.

Billy: You know, vick, now that you mention that, I’m a little concerned about ashland being in town. I mean, he’s got no reason to set foot in genoa city.

Victoria: I agree.

Billy: And I’m sure getting handcuffed and thrown in the back of a car pissed him off. You got to wonder about his headspace.

Victoria: You know, I have no clue what’s going on in ashland’s head. And honestly, I don’t care.

Billy: Well, I do, vick. And honestly, I’m a little worried about you being home alone, especially with the kids coming back here. I mean, I don’t want them in the middle of all this.

Victoria: You’re making too much of this, billy.

Billy: Am I really?

Victoria: Yes, because if ashland is gonna be mad at anyone, it’s gonna be the abbotts. They’re the ones who had him arrested. And if anything arises, I’m sure that I can handle the situation. As you well know, my father has a security detail watching out for me.

Billy: Okay, well, for once, I’m grateful.

Victoria: Me too.

[ Sighs ] So you don’t have to worry about me. Now, let’s get back to your original question. I would honestly be happy to pick up the kids from camp on my own. Truly. I mean, if you need to go out of town for business, it’s fine. I can handle it. I’m actually looking forward to spending some time with them on my own.

Billy: What about work?

Victoria: Oh, it’s not an issue. Now that mom and nick are part of the executive team, it’s easier for me to step away from the office. So go ahead, please. Go to california with lily. And rest easy. Billy, seriously, I’m fine. You have nothing to worry about. But I do have a lot of work to do, so please just go.

Billy: Okay. I’ll let you get to it.

Victoria: Have a good evening. Safe travels.

Billy: Thank you.

Victoria: Alright.

[ Winds continues blowing ]

[ Sighs ]

Adam: Thank you.

Sally: Will you give me a minute? Order some drinks, and we’ll celebrate.

Chloe: Sure.

Sally: Adam, wait.% Don’t be a coward and run away from this. Talk to me. Please.

Adam: [ Sighs ]

Sally: Did you get my voicemail?

Adam: Sally…

Sally: Did you get my voicemail?

Adam: Look, let’s not do this again, okay? I don’t get any pleasure out of being cruel to you.

Sally: I want an answer. Are you destroying what we had to give me a chance to keep my job at newman media? Did you think, by breaking things off, victoria would have an easier time accepting me?

Adam: Were you not listening to me? This has nothing to do with victoria and it has nothing to do with your career.

Sally: I don’t want to be ceo under these circumstances. Not if it means losing you. So, in spite of your past and the person that you used to be, I’m not buying this, adam. I refuse to believe that you could just so easily shut off your feelings for me and throw it all away. Hi, I’m nancy.

Adam: I thought that I made it clear why I ended things. You were a liability. You were standing between me and everything that I want. Okay? My father’s approval — another chance for me to prove myself. And that’s something that’s never gonna happen if I am tied to you or — or newman enterprises. And honestly, sally, that’s what you should be focused on right now, is trying to prove yourself, not chasing after a man who doesn’t love you.

Sally: I refuse to believe that.

Adam: Well, suit yourself. Okay? I was a little surprised that victoria decided to let you stay, even though you do deserve it. So you need to make the most of this. It’s over, sally. Just accept it and stop wasting time — yours and mine.

Sally: [ Sniffles ]

Adam: Just do what you need to do to make the most of your life and what you deserve. Okay? That’s what I’m doing.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Chelsea: Everything alright?

Adam: We’re done here.

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Noah: I want to turn the top of the tower into an art-inspired nightclub — a lounge, bar, something in that realm.

Nick: [ Chuckles ] Wow. That is the last thing I was expecting to hear. But keep going.

Noah: I want to make a space where people can come and feel inspired. You know, they could come and they could have fun and relax and socialize. I could take my experience and knowledge from working at the underground and managing the top of the tower with all the things I learned while being in the london art culture. I could take my passion for art, video, photography, transforming spaces and — and just make something new and make something people can actually be excited about. So, what do you think?

Nick: Um, have you run this by your grandfather?

Noah: No. I wanted to talk to you first. I still need to sell grandpa on the idea that a nightclub would be more profitable for newman tower than some upscale restaurant, which means running the numbers, putting together a solid business plan to see the vision through.

Nick: Yeah, you’re definitely gonna need that.

Noah: And, dad, I promise I’m not gonna leave you or new hope in the lurch. I’m gonna honor my commitment. I’ll stay on until we find a replacement that you’re satisfied with. I know that you got to be disappointed. You thought that I was gonna step in at new hope while you took care of things at newman, and — and I hate that I’m letting you down.

Nick: No. Are you serious? You can never do that with me. Ever. And after hearing your pitch, I’m anything but disappointed.

Noah: [ Chuckles ] Seriously?

Nick: Yeah! I’m serious. I love seeing you like this. This is my guy right here. Look at you. Your eyes are all lit up. You’re animated. You’re excited about something. I can’t tell you the last time you were excited about something.

Noah: Thank you. I mean, if I’m telling the truth, it feels good.

Nick: It should. It’s an inspired idea. And this town has nothing like it.

Noah: That’s the dream.

Nick: Well, go out there and make it a reality, alright? I believe in you. You can do this. You have my support, and I love you. So bring it in. Come on, man.

Noah: Aww. [ Chuckles ]

Nick: I’m proud of you.

Noah: Thank you.

[ Wind blowing ]

[ Slam ]

[ Slam ]

[ Pen rolls ]

Victoria: [ Sighs ]

[ Gasps ]

[ Breathing heavily ] Truth is… I’ve never really known how to care for my hardwood floors.

Sally: Shall we toast to our new arrangement?

Chloe: Yeah, in — inn a minute. Um, what just happened with you and adam? Things seem pretty tense back there.

Sally: [ Sighs ] Adam and I are no longer together.

Chloe: Oh, I — I didn’t realize that.

Sally: Yeah, well, few people know.

[ Sighs ] But if you are about to say how happy and relieved you are, for my sake…

Chloe: Are you okay?

Sally: What I am is single-minded about my work and about the future at the helm of newman media. So a toast to saying yes when opportunity knocks, and the pair of us kicking ass and taking names together.

Chloe: Hear, hear.

Chloe: Um, I’m — I’m — I’m sorry, but, um… did adam expect you to walk away from the ceo gig in solidarity? Is that what came between you?

Sally: [ Chuckles ] Really doesn’t matter. What’s done is done. Let’s just move on, ’cause the clock is ticking. Our every move and decision is gonna be under victoria’s microscope, so we really need to start strategizing.

Chloe: I doubt that it’s gonna be as easy for you as you’re making it sound. I know how invested you were in that relationship.

Sally: Well, I refuse to let my personal problems make me lose this job, too.

Chloe: Good. Hold on to that. Because adam has a bad habit of keeping women in his orbit, making them feel like they have something special. Like you were the only one who truly understands him.

Sally: Thank you for that.

Chloe: I know that I have sounded like a broken record since you two started dating, but this is why. I knew it was gonna end badly. It always does. I have seen it happen multiple times, and it is infuriating to watch him treat people like this. You stay mired in that toxic mix, and adam will cost you everything. Don’t let him. Don’t give him that power. You are in this position because of who you are, because of your amazing talent and drive. So if adam says it’s over, let it be over. You have bigger fish to fry.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Chelsea: Oh! I can’t believe the way adam treated you just now. I feel terrible for you.

Noah: Whew. That’s a relief. I was — I was kinda worried about telling you.

Nick: [ Chuckles ] You know, how many career changes I’ve had? It would take a lot of nerve of me to be judging you right now.

Noah: Let’s just say I was prepared for this conversation to go in a very different way.

Nick: Listen, I can’t lie to you. I was really excited of, uh, the possibility of you continuing my work at new hope. But, son, what is far more important to me is that you’re happy, and if this is what it takes, then so be it. I hope you know that you will always have my support, no matter what. You know that, right?

Noah: Yeah. Yeah, it’s like someone reminded me, that this is probably how you’d react, to give me the guts to talk to you.

Nick: Well, that’s a smart person. You should keep them around.

Noah: Speaking of allie, I should probably go home and get changed. We got a date tonight?

Nick: Ooh. Alright. Well, keep me posted on the progress of your nightclub.

Noah: I will.

Nick: And you know I have an endless amount of fatherly advice on pretty much every topic, so I’m here.

Noah: Okay, okay. Good to know.

Nick: Have a good time tonight.

Noah: That’s the easy part. Hey, billy, how’s it going? Good to see you.

Billy: Good to see you, too. How you doing?

Nick: I’m good. No offense. I got to go.

Billy: Alright, well, I’ll cut to the chase and just tell you why I’m glad I ran into you.

Nick: Alright. Shoot.

Billy: Victoria? Is she okay?

Nick: In what sense?

Billy: She’s on edge, nick, and she’s covering it up.

Nick: I haven’t noticed anything like that.

Billy: Okay, well, I know ashland’s back in town, and he got arrested for violating his restraining order. And I also know what he’s capable of, and I’m pretty sure you do, too.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] What — what the hell are you doing out there?

Ashland: I was debating whether to even make my presence known.

Victoria: As opposed to what? Hiding out in the bushes and spying on me. What’s wrong with you?

Ashland: I just wanted to see you one last time.

Victoria: You shouldn’t be here right now. Maybe I should call the police. Do I need a restraining order against you?

Ashland: I’m sorry, okay? I didn’t mean to scare you. But after everything we’ve shared, I just…

[ Sighs ] I don’t know how to say goodbye.

Victoria: [ Sighing ] Ughh!

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Sally: I appreciate your concern, but chloe and I are in a meeting.

Chloe: Yeah, we can just catch up later?

Chelsea: What kind of meeting? What’s going on?

Sally: Chloe and I are working together.

Chelsea: Um, I know I — i put you in a jam, forcing you to find a new partner on such short notice.

Sally: Try “no notice.”

Chelsea: But I lined up an incredible designer from new york to take over for me and continue on at fenmore’S.

Chloe: Yeah, I heard about that, but —

Chelsea: Even if you didn’t hit it off with him, you’re gonna — you’re gonna have sally to join you? Come on, chloe, anybody but her. And I don’t understand how lauren would be on board with this.

Sally: Okay, I think you misunderstood. It’s the other way around.

Chelsea: You’ve lost me.

Sally: You see, chelsea, I’m still the ceo of newman media, so I’m bringing chloe on as my coo. Deal’s done. We’re just hammering out the details of her offer before we get down to work.

Chelsea: When I heard victoria was in charge again, I thought that meant adam was head of new media.

Sally: Well, he is not interested. He’s moving on… from everything.

Chelsea: Including you, apparently. Wow. That lasted about as long as I expected it to.

Nick: Billy, don’t lose any sleep over victoria, alright? Just stay out of it.

Billy: Wow. Congratulations. You’ve been back working on your father’s company for five minutes, and you already sound like the old man. Telling me not to worry about victoria. That’s not gonna happen, nick, for two reasons. One, she’s the mother of my children. And second of all, I have damn good reason to worry about her right now.

Nick: Well, you have this compulsion to play white knight to a woman who, frankly, has gotten over you years ago.

Billy: Look, I was just with victoria. I know her. She’s covering up how upset she is that that snake is slithering around. And he’s got to be desperate if he’s reckless enough to disobey a court order.

Nick: He’s an entitled jerk who thinks rules are for other people. There’s no surprise there.

Billy: Nick, what are you doing here? Okay, we’re talking about victoria’s safety. Ashland was put in handcuffs and thrown in the back of a car. You don’t think he’s gonna want to retaliate?

Nick: Against kyle, maybe. He’s the one with the restraining order.

Billy: Oh, that’s a very logical way of thinking about this. Unfortunately, there’s nothing logical about the way ashland thinks.

Nick: Look, billy, I appreciate your concern. I really do. But we’re done with this.

Billy: You know, it wasn’t that long ago we were on the same side, trying to show victoria the man that she was about to marry. We want the same thing here. Now, I’m about to go out of town with lily for work. I can stick around to keep an eye on victoria, if that would make it better.

Nick: You do not need to do that, because there’s nothing for you to do. I am not gonna let ashland hurt victoria. That is my promise to you. Now, go on your trip. Give my best to lily.

Billy: Go check on your sister. Make sure she’s okay.

[ Footsteps departing ]

Nick: [ Sighs ]

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Okay, fine. I-I’ll hear you out,% but only if you agree to finally leave me alone after this.

Ashland: Thank you.

[ Door lock clicks ] It’s so hard to see you like this. So wary. But it’s hard to stay away, too. Don’t you feel the same way? Isn’t there some part of you, after everything we’ve shared? The happiest days of my life. Yours, too. You told me so. Do you really look at me right now and feel that it’s all over between us?

[ Cellphone ringing ]

Victoria: It’s over. It’s been over. It’s past time for you to accept that.

Ashland: Your father. Your family. They’ve turned you against me.

Victoria: This is he talking, telling you there is nothing left between us. After new york, I thought you’d be certain about that. But you don’t like to lose.

Ashland: Don’t do that.

Victoria: Ashland —

Ashland: I will not be dismissed! With depression, you just feel…blah.

[ Music plays ]

[ Wind blowing ]

Noah: Whoo! That wind came up out of nowhere.

Allie: Yeah, reminds me of santa anas.

Noah: Good thing they put those barriers up around the deck.

Allie: So… how much longer do I have to wait?

Noah: For me to get us drinks?

Allie: No, silly, for you to tell me how the conversation went with your dad. How’d it go?

Noah: It was great.

Allie: Really?

Noah: Yeah.

Allie: Oh, I’m so happy for you, noah. And did he love the whole art-themed lounge?

Noah: Yeah, yeah, he sure did, but he said he was most excited that I was fired up about something again. He just wants to see me happy. So you were right.

Allie: Oh, wait, I’m sorry, i didn’t hear that. What did you say?

Noah: You were right.

Allie: Um, no, try again.

[ Laughs ] I’m so glad that everything worked out. Now time to celebrate.

[ Chuckles ]

Sally: First, you dump chloe with no warning, because of your own bizarre reason.

Chelsea: Is that what she told you? Because our partnership wasn’t working for her either. You made that very clear.

Sally: So, in other words, you screwed up, and chloe called you out on it.

Chloe: I completely understand that chelsea needed to do that for herself. You were feeling very overwhelmed.

Sally: And yet you can’t show her the same grace and understanding?? You can’t be happy that your dearest friend landed in such a good place without missing a beat.

Chloe: And it is. It’s — it’s a good place.

Chelsea: Really? Really? You like working with sally that much?

Chloe: We’re a good team.

Chelsea: So, you’ll replace me with her, of all people?

Chloe: It’s not like that.

Chelsea: I should have known you would do this, when you hired her to work for the fashion platform without even asking me.

Chloe: Because you weren’t even working at the company. I mean, you weren’t even in the same town.

Chelsea: Look how the tables have turned. She used to be your subordinate. Now she’s your boss. Do you see how manipulative she is?

Sally: Okay, you know what? I’m really sorry that your life is so empty and miserable that you have nothing better to do than spread your poison. But nobody at this table cares. So why don’t you just go spew it somewhere else?

Chelsea: You know what? I hate to disappoint you, but my life is going great right now. I’m also embarking on an exciting, new partnership. So good luck with the job adam gave you because you were sleeping with him at the time. At least he left you with something.

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Ashland: Your trust in me has been shaken to the core.

Victoria: Not shaken. Destroyed.

Ashland: You think I’m still the ruthless man I used to be? Okay, fine, I admit it. I never cared about anything I did in my past. I never felt remorse for anything I ever did. I knew I should, but I didn’T.

Victoria: Finally. Finally, you admit that your contrition was just all an act?

Ashland: Yeah.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ]

Ashland: It was, at first, but then you changed me, victoria! God, I’ve said this to you a hundred times! Your love, our marriage — it made me want to be a better person! And then you just took all of that away from me! And now I really am that lost man that you and your father have accused me of being all along. You were my whole heart and my soul.

[ Sighs ] And now they’ve — they’ve both been ripped away from me.

Victoria: I’m not gonna take the blame for that. You’ve brought this all on yourself.

Ashland: I feel pain because of you! Because you made me feel again! Don’t you understand that?! Because I believed you when you told me you would always love me, no matter what.

Victoria: Because you wanted to believe it. You wanted to believe that I would forgive and forget all of your monumental lies. That I would just forgive them and go on and — and love you as if nothing had ever happened.

Ashland: You just cannot accept the fact that something important has changed inside of me, can you? Oh, no, wait. Maybe it’s that you see the change, but you don’t care.

Victoria: Well, what really is the point? It’s over. There’s nothing left to talk about. There’s absolutely nothing left for you to fight for.

Ashland: And nothing left to lose. For people who are a little intense about hydration.

Allie: Alright, alright. You were right, too.

Noah: I’m usually right. So, what exactly was I right about this time?

Allie: This place is pretty chill at night.

Noah: Yeah, it’s a lot more mellow during the day.

Allie: Mellow is overrated.

Noah: Do you want to dance?

Allie: I thought you’d never ask.

[ Upbeat music plays ]

[ Slow music plays ]

Noah: I have a confession to make.

Allie: Oh?

Noah: I can’t stop thinking about our kiss.

Allie: I have a confession to make, too.

Noah: Oh?

Sally: What an utter witch.

Chloe: She has for moments.

Sally: What do you think is going on between her and billy?

Chloe: Oh, they’re just working together. Something about a podcast.

Sally: Okay, well, that’s just weird.

Chloe: Yeah, it did seem like a hard left turn. Something that I know nothing about. But, um, you know, if that’s what she needs to do to finish healing, then I wish her the best.

Sally: You are so generous towards her, even though she screwed you over.

Chloe: Well, you know, we might still be on the outs, but I do care about her. Anyway, you and I have more important things to think about, like proving to victoria that she couldn’t find a better team to run newman media.

Sally: Well, when you’re right, you’re right.

Chelsea: [ Laughing ] Oh, we’re definitely not doing a podcast on that. That’s for sure.

Billy: Well, you never know.

Chelsea: Alright. Whatever you say, boss.

Billy: Alright, enough with the “boss.” We’ve talked about this. We are partners. Let’s try and remember that.

Chelsea: Whatever you say, partner.

Billy: That sounds better. Um, I e-mailed you a few ideas for the podcast. I’d like to go over them when I get back. I got to go out of town for work.

Chelsea: Oh. How long will you be gone?

Billy: A few days. Depends on how well the meetings go. Maybe more.

Chelsea: Well, I look forward to hearing your ideas. I will have plenty of feedback for you when you get home.

Billy: Yeah, that — that, I am sure of.

Chelsea: Yeah.

[ Chuckles ]

Sally: I wonder what lily thinks of this new partnership.

Chloe: Yeah, I wouldn’t know. And frankly, it’s none of my business. So, uh, when can I start?

Sally: Uh, right. Yes. Sorry. Focus. Um, your first date can be tomorrow if it works for you.

Chloe: Sounds great. I’ll see you bright and early, hit the ground running.

Sally: That’s the spirit.

Chelsea: [ Laughing ]

Billy: I told you.

Chelsea: I believe it. Absolutely. I saw with my own eyes.

Billy: [ Chuckles ]

Chelsea: Mm-hmm.

Victoria: This conversation is over. I gave you your chance, and now I-I just want you to leave.

Ashland: I’m not finished.

Victoria: I didn’t have to let you in, but I did. Okay? I heard you out.

Ashland: And now I’m dismissed.

Victoria: There’s absolutely no reason to go around and around about this. Whatever you thought would happen when you came here, whatever fantasies you had about how this was gonna go, it didn’t happen, and I don’t want to hear any more. I just want you to leave my home. I want you to leave town. Do you understand what I’m saying?

Ashland: No, no. You want me gone because you can’t face up to what you did, to the sacrifices you made when you gave up on us.

Victoria: Stop it. You can’t manipulate me anymore. I stopped giving a damn about you the day that I realized who you were.

Ashland: And who am I?! Victoria, who am I to you?! Worthless? Pathetic? Something who could just toss aside, like so much trash? No, no. There’s only one way that you’re gonna be done with me. I see that now. Only one way… to end this.

Victoria: [ Sighs ]

[ Wind blowing ]

Nick: Vick, you in there?!

[ Wind continues blowing ]

Next week on “the young and the restless”…

Chance: An accident? Is anybody hurt?

Summer: How much of this sudden interest in working in marchetti has to do with the fact that kyle just hired diane?

Victoria: That’s my security detail. They check in with me every 15 minutes, and if I don’t answer it, they’re gonna be here in a hurry.

Ashland: Well, then… we’re gonna have to make this quick.

[Baby crying]

Shawn: Sorry, he’s–you know, he’s a little fussy.

Belle: Oh, no, no need to apologize, I remember when claire was that age. She was up like three or four times a night for the first year. I hope that won’t be the case with shawn christian.

Shawn: Yeah, well, we’re gonna see, I guess. I mean, last time, he only woke up once.

Belle: Oh, well, that’s good. I didn’t have a chance to tell you before, but I’m really gladyou got to bring him home.

Shawn: So am I. Look, thank you. Thank you for coming over.

Belle: Yeah, no problem. What did you want to talk about?

Shawn: I wanted to apologize.

Evan: Dad, the governor’s press conference just ended. It’s official. We’ve been granted pardons.

Orpheus: No thanks to you.

Evan: Look, I know I shouldn’t have told kristen dimera our plan, but it all turned out okay in the end, right? We’re all three getting out of here.

Orpheus: Barely, the governor was none too pleased by kristen’s special requests. That woman nearly tanked the entire deal.

Gwen: What happened to you?

Kristen: [Chuckles] I used the concrete wall as a punching bag. I don’t recommend it.

Gwen: Duly noted. Guess you’re having a bad day.

Kristen: Mm, I was, I was. But things are starting to look up.

Xander: Don’t worry, maggie. It’ll all be straightened out. Sarah will be just fine. I promise. Listen, I’ve got to go. I’ll keep you posted. Oi, commissioner! You need to let sarah out of here immediately. This is all terribly unfair.

Rafe: Oh, calm down, xander. We just need to ask her a few questions, that’s all.

Xander: Oh, and that couldn’t wait until after we finished our wedding? Your newbie detective came crashing in right in the middle of our ceremony and treated my bride like a common criminal. And my god, as if sarah would even ever say a harsh word to her cousin abigail, let alone murder her.

Rafe: Well, right now, sarah is just a person of interest. That’s all.

Xander: Whatever you want to call it, rafe, she shouldn’t be talking to the cops without a lawyer.

Rafe: Well, she insisted she didn’t need one. That decision is hers to make.

Xander: I just hope she doesn’t end up regretting that decision.

Jada: As I told you earlier, an eyewitness placed you at the scene of the dimera estate the night abigail dimera was killed.

Sarah: I know that you couldn’t tell me earlier, but now it’s just the two of us, can you tell me who the witness was?

Jada: It was lucas horton.

Sarah: I see.

Jada: But before we get into the night in question, I wanted to ask you something that you mentioned at your mother’s house.

Sarah: Yeah, sure. I’m happy to cooperate.

Jada: Great, you mentioned you’re on medication. For what?

Sarah: To help control the aftereffects of another drug that I was given.

Jada: And what are these aftereffects?

Sarah: Hallucinations.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Ava: I love you too, sweetheart. And I miss you so much. You too, bye.

Jake: That your secret lover?

Ava: No, dummy, it was my son.

Jake: Uh-huh.

Ava: You know I’ve only got eyes for you.

Jake: Mmm.

Ava: Mm-hmm, how was work?

Jake: Thrilling. Let me tell you, watching gabi and shin’s love fest makes you want to gouge your eyes out.

Ava: Mmm, so things are getting pretty serious with them, huh?

Jake: Looks like it. Anyway, enough about them. How was your day?

Ava: Well, before I was talking with my secret lover, I mean, tripp…

Jake: Uh-huh.

Ava: I was watching a pretty interesting press conference.

Jake: Sounds like a contradiction of terms.

Ava: Oh, so then I take it you haven’t heard the news.

Jake: About?

Ava: The governor issued several pardons just now, including one for your sister kristen.

Jake: Huh.

Kristen: It’s funny. I was pretty much resigned to finishing out my sentence here, with the occasional escape, of course, when this amazing opportunity for a full pardon just fell right into my lap. And I was never one to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Gwen: Well, congratulations. I guess this is goodbye then.

Kristen: Actually, it isn’T. No, see, you are coming with me.

Gwen: What?

Kristen: Yes, what, did you think I’m gonna leave you behind? No, hon–ouch. I got you a full pardon too.

Shawn: I spoke to chloe earlier. And she really helped me understand just how unfair that I’ve been to you since the moment that little shawn was conceived.

Belle: I don’t want to go back there.

Shawn: Belle, please, I just–let me just say this. I was wrong. I was wrong to let you believe that jan and I never had sex. I should have told you. I should have told you the moment that it happened so that you wouldn’t have gotten blindsided by her all those months later with her telling you that she’s pregnant. And I’m sorry. I’m sorry about the decisions that I made that affected the both of us. Letting jan move in, and telling you to keep your distance from her? Look, all I was trying to do was protect my unborn son. But you are my wife, belle. You’re my wife, and I should have involved you in every decision that was made. And I should have made it clear to you and to jan that you and I–that we’re a team.

Belle: Well, I didn’t really make that easy for you. The idea of jan having your baby just drove me crazy, and I shut down, and I shut you down.

Shawn: But I should not have let you. I should have worked with you. I should have worked harder to find a solution, a different solution. Like, to have jan–to have her live someplace else. Okay, but no, I didn’T. I put you in an impossible position. And for that, belle, I am so sorry.

Evan: Governor mitchell didn’t mention kristen’s two other demands when he started his announcement. I was worried he was going to renege on that part of the deal. But he managed to sneak them in at the end.

Orpheus: He was probably embarrassed by what kristen made him do. I can’t say that I blame him. I don’t know what that woman was thinking.

Rolf: I just heard the wonderful news! Ah! Thank you for securing me a pardon from the governor. I am so honored that you would even think of me. Of course, I did help you escape that one time. But you’ve been a little standoffish since they brought you back. I was starting to think you didn’t like me.

Orpheus: I don’T.

Evan: Dr. Rolf, your release was kirsten dimera’s idea, not my dad’S.

Rolf: Ah. I should have known the dimeras would once again come to my rescue.

Evan: I don’t get it. Why are you so loyal to that family?

Rolf: Stefano was the first person to acknowledge and encourage my scientific genius. Apparently, his daughter shares his wisdom and values my considerable talents as well. Ah, that kristen always was the shrewd one.

Gwen: Okay, let me get this straight. So you had evan tell his father that he need to secure a pardon not just for you, but also for dr. Rolf and for me?

Kristen: Yeah, I mean, I have a certain loyalty to dr. Rolf as well. Better yet, he may come in handy for me.

Gwen: Well, I get that, but why for me? Why would you ask for a pardon for me?

Kristen: Oh, silly, I’m a good and loyal friend.

Gwen: I didn’t realize we were friends.

Kristen: Of course we are. I mean, do you think I’ve forgotten how you helped me escape police custody?

Gwen: Because you blackmailed me.

Kristen: Okay, granted, our friendship didn’t exactly start on a level playing field. But you and ava, you know, you came through for me. And I felt I owed you one.

Gwen: I see. Well, this is incredible.

Kristen: Isn’t it? This must be how oprah feels. You get a pardon. You get a pardon. Everybody gets a pardon.

Gwen: Yeah, well, not everybody.

Jake: So my sister kristen’s a free woman now, huh?

Ava: Yep. Along with orpheus and evan.

Jake: Did the governor mention why he issued these pardons?

Ava: Yeah, I don’t know. Tripp called during the middle of the conference; I didn’t get all the juicy details.

Jake: You wouldn’t have anything to do with this, would you?

Ava: With kristen getting pardoned? Why would you even ask me that?

Jake: Because I would imagine that you still have a certain amount of influence over your old mob ties, right? You and kristen were friends. You helped her escape police custody, what, twice?

Ava: I had nothing to do with the governor’s pardon. Although, I kind of like that you think I got that kind of power, that I could pull off something like that.

Jake: Well, I think there’s no limit as to what you could pull off, ava vitali, what with your charm and your brains. You are a woman of many talents.

Ava: Yeah. And don’t you forget it.

From prom dresses

Xander: Well, can you at least tell me the name of this supposed eyewitness? Who’s claiming they saw sarah at the dimera estate the night abigail was murdered?

Rafe: Not at liberty to say.

Xander: Was it lucas? Heard some cops talking about some hypnosis session he had with marlena? Sounds totally bogus to me.

Rafe: I just told you I am not revealing the identity of the witness.

Xander: Of course it was lucas; who else could it be? He’s your main suspect, right? And what, he just happens to recall seeing sarah. Come on, it must be painfully obvious even to you that he’s just trying to point the finger at someone else.

Rafe: Okay. Let’s say you’re right. Let’s say it was lucas. Why would he implicate sarah, of all people?

Xander: I don’t know. Maybe it was the first name that popped into his wee head. But we’re talking about sarah, rafe. She’s a doctor. She took an oath to do no harm. Not to mention she’s the kindest person on earth. She would certainly never murder anyone, especially her own cousin.

Jada: Can you tell me some more about the drug that causes these hallucinations?

Sarah: It doesn’t have a name. It’s experimental.

Jada: Is it recreational?

Sarah: I didn’t take it willingly, if that’s what you’re asking. A woman named kristen dimera injected me with it.

Jada: Why would she do that?

Sarah: She was keeping me hostage in the dimera tunnels. I found the syringe on the floor, and I was planning on using it against her to try to escape. She overpowered me and used it on me instead.

Jada: Do you know how a drug-filled syringe would just happen to be on the floor?

Sarah: I did not know it then, but I have since learned that abigail left it behind.

Jada: Abigail dimera?

Sarah: Yes.

Jada: So, in a way, abigail was responsible for your hallucinations. I’m sure that made you very angry with her.

Sarah: No, no, of course not. This is all kristen’s fault. She’s the one that I’m angry with, and I am more than angry. She is a vile human being. She’s a sadistic bitch, and I hate her for what she did to me.

Kristen: What do you mean? I mean, who else was I supposed to get a pardon for? One of those lamebrains we see in the exercise yard every day?

Gwen: How about your bff lani?

Kristen: Yeah. Well, believe me, I would if I could have. But the governor doesn’t have jurisdiction now that she’s serving her sentence out of state.

Gwen: Well, that’s too bad. For her. But you and me, I mean, we’re really going home tonight.

Kristen: Yes, yes, we are!

Gwen: Really?

Kristen: Yes!

Gwen: Oh, my–ah! Oh, my god. Thank you.

Rolf: Well, I must go and gather my things if we are to leave this vile penitentiary tonight. What a delightful turn of events, huzzah!

Orpheus: What a freak show.

Evan: He’s excited. That’s all. He’s got his life back, and so do I, and as soon as I’m out of this hellhole, I’m going straight to shawn brady’s, and I’m gonna claim my child.

Orpheus: Well, if that’s your plan, you’re gonna need this. It’s the original results from jan’s paternity test. It proves that shawn brady is not the father of her baby.

Evan: Thanks. Although, I wish you’d told me the truth a lot sooner.

Orpheus: Right. Because you’re so discreet.

Evan: I get that I let you down. And I’m sorry.

Orpheus: It’s fine. Just go get my grandson. He belongs with us, not with marlena’s dimwitted son-in-law.

Belle: In the beginning, I wanted to lay all the blame on you, but I realize now that I can’T. I made some mistakes as well. I pretty much did what I always do when things are rough between us, and I sought comfort and assurance from someone else, when I should have been trying to work things out with you. Every time we fought, I turned to ej, even though I knew how much it bothered you. And I guess, on some level, that’s probably why I did it.

Shawn: Look, I know that part of you ran to ej to hurt me. But is that all that it was? Like, in the end, did– in the end, did you fall in love with him?

Belle: What–no, no. Ej was there for me, but it was never love. And I want you to know i didn’t file for separation so I could be with ej. I really did feel like we needed that space. But I do admit that having those separation papers helped me rationalize that it was okay to be with him. I told myself that I wasn’t betraying our vows because we were legally separated. But I do know that it was a betrayal. And I am deeply sorry I hurt you.

Shawn: We’ve established that you and I are both sorry. So where does that leave us now?

Jada: Do you still suffer from these hallucinations?

Sarah: I have them less often now that my medicine has been adjusted.

Jada: Can you give me an example of how these hallucinations manifest themselves?

Sarah: I imagined my stepfather was kristen, and she was holding a syringe, but it was just him with a pen.

Jada: I see. Any other incidents?

Sarah: I mistook a woman named nicole walker for kristen. And I attacked her.

Jada: Attacked her how?

Sarah: I grabbed her by the arm to try to get her away from eric brady. Xander stepped in and helped me realize that I was hallucinating, made me snap out of it. Nicole was fine. She wasn’t hurt at all.

Jada: Have you hallucinated that anybody else was kristen dimera?

Sarah: Xander’s ex-wife, chanel dupree.

Jada: And did you attack her the same way you did nicole walker?

Sarah: Sort of.

Jada: Sort of, can you please elaborate on that?

Sarah: I threatened her with a knife.

Xander: Sarah and I should be celebrating our wedding night right now. This very minute, we should be enjoying champagne, and cake, and lots and lots of newlywed sex.

Rafe: Yeah, well, I really don’t need to hear about your honeymoon plans.

Xander: Once again, all our plans have gone to hell. We were kept apart for so long by kristen and then gwen. I really thought this was our chance, finally, our big moment, our happily ever after.

Rafe: Okay, listen. Believe it or not, I am not completely unsympathetic to your feelings, all right, so if you could just put your frustration aside and have a little objectivity, okay? So if it turns out that sarah was at the dimeras the night abigail was murdered…

Xander: Which she wasn’T.

Rafe: Then we need to know everything that happened, right? And if it turns out that sarah is innocent…

Xander: Which she is!

Rafe: She might be able to shed some light on the investigation.

[Phone rings] Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to take this. Hey, abe, what’s up? No, I did not see the press conference. You’ve gotta be kidding me.

Shawn: I guess there isn’t an easy answer.

Belle: No, there isn’T.

[Cell phone beeps]

Shawn: I have to check this. It might be work, okay? What the hell?

Belle: What, what’s wrong?

Shawn: Governor mitchell pardoned five people. And you are not gonna believe who they are.

Ava: So did you figure out why the governor pardoned your sister?

Jake: No, it’s pretty vague about why he was letting her go. But I did come across a related piece of news you might be interested to hear.

Ava: Yeah, what’s that?

Jake: Well, toward the end of the press conference, governor mitchell announced that he was issuing two more pardons, one for dr. Wilhelm rolf, and the other for your own pal, gwen.

Ava: You’re kidding. So the governor pardoned orpheus, kristen dimera, evan frears, gwen rizczech, and dr. Wilhelm rolf. Talk about a rogues’ gallery. And as of tonight, they are all free to do whatever the hell they please. Research shows that people remember ads with young people

Jada: You said at your mother’s house on the night in question that you were planning on visiting abigail dimera.

Sarah: Yeah, dr. Evans suggested that I go speak to my cousin because abigail had had a similar reaction to the same drug.

Jada: So what happened when you went to visit her?

Sarah: I didn’t go, it turns out. I went to statesville to see abigail’s sister gwen rizczech.

Jada: And after your visit to statesville?

Sarah: I went to the salem inn. I needed to lie down. I was just–I was feeling off because my meds hadn’t been adjusted yet.

Jada: So you’re saying that you never went to the dimera estate that night.

Sarah: That’s what I’m saying.

Jada: Well, lucas said he saw you there.

Sarah: That’s impossible. So lucas is lying, or he’s mistaken. I don’t know.

Jada: I’m just telling you what he said he saw. He said he saw you fleeing down the stairs. You had an object in your hand. You dropped it.

Sarah: I couldn’t drop something if I wasn’t there.

Jada: I’m just telling you what lucas said. Even though he didn’t know what you had in your hand, allegedly, I think it was the knife, the same one that killed abigail dimera.

Rolf: Ms. Dimera, please accept my heartfelt thanks for securing my freedom. You have no idea how hard it has been for me to coexist with all those neanderthals in there.

Kristen: You are very welcome, rolf. I know father wouldn’t have wanted me to leave you languishing behind bars. And now you can continue his work.

Rolf: Indeed. And am I correct in thinking you may require my services in the future?

Kristen: Oh, you know me too well. I will get in touch soon. But until then, lie low and stay out of trouble.

Rolf: Understood. I shall await your instructions.

Gwen: So what services of dr. Rolf will you be requiring, ms. Dimera? What exactly do you have planned?

Belle: Well, please be safe. Okay, I love you too. Okay. My mom heard about orpheus, so they’re on the alert.

Shawn: That’s good. That’s good. Did you get ahold of brady?

Belle: Yeah, he knows about kristen.

Shawn: I left word for ben and ciara. Thank god they’re halfway across the world, where evan can’t get to them.

Belle: That’s a relief. All right, so everyone we love is safe.

Shawn: Yeah, and they’re gonna stay that way.

Evan: Sorry to interrupt. Door was open.

Shawn: What the hell are you doing here? If you’re looking for my sister, then–

Evan: I’m not. I’m here to get my son.

Shawn: Your son?

Evan: The one you call shawn christian. I’m sorry to tell you–actually, no, I’m not. I’m proud to say it. He’s not your son. He’s mine. After trying lots of things to manage her

Sarah: Look, abigail was my cousin, and I loved her. She rescued me from kristen. I’m profoundly grateful to her. Why in god’s name would I ever hurt her?

Jada: You obviously wouldn’t in your normal state of mind, but, dr. Horton, you’ve admitted that you’re subject to hallucinations. Isn’t it possible that you thought abigail was kristen dimera and felt that she was a threat? I mean, you’ve admitted to brandishing a knife against ms. Dupree. You could have done the same thing to abigail, except this time, I don’t think that anybody was there to protect her, to stop you from taking your revenge.

Sarah: Am I under arrest?

Jada: No.

Sarah: Then I’d like to leave.

Kristen: Oh, you know me, I always have a plan. But I’m not ready to share the details. Let’s just say I intend to get back everything I lost. And I assume you’ll do the same?

Gwen: Well, I might be able to repair my relationship with my father, but xander and I, we’re a lost cause, especially after what I did to sarah. I don’t think he’ll ever speak to me again, let alone take me back.

Kristen: Hey, you never know. At least you have a fighting chance.

Gwen: Good to know one of us thinks so.

Kristen: Oh, honey, I know so. You are beautiful, and smart, and definitely more interesting than that ditzy sarah horton. I can’t stand that moron xander. I never could. But for some reason, you love him. And we both have been given a second chance at freedom, and I think you and I need to go after what we want and not let anyone stand in our way.

Xander: What’s taking so long? Oh, you okay–what happened?

Sarah: Will you please take me home?

Xander: Of course.

Evan: Is that him? Shawn christian?

Shawn: You take another step towards my son, and I will kill you.

Evan: Look, I didn’t come here to fight with you.

Shawn: Okay, well do yourself a favor, turn around, and get the hell out of my house now.

Evan: I understand why you might not believe me.

Belle: Yeah, maybe because you’re a psychotic murderer.

Evan: But I swear I’m telling the truth. I’m the father of that baby, of jan spears’ baby.

Shawn: How do you even know jan?

Evan: She and I hooked up when she first came to statesville. We met in the infirmary. It got pretty hot pretty fast. I didn’t know at the time, but she wanted me to get her pregnant so she could pass the baby off as yours. I guess it worked out fine.

Shawn: Look, I have a paternity test that proves that I am that baby’s father.

Evan: Yeah, a test that my father helped jan alter.

Shawn: Orpheus? Why would he do that?

Evan: He had his reasons.

Belle: This doesn’t make any sense.

Evan: Look, I have the real results of the paternity test right here. It says that you’re not the father, as you can see.

Shawn: How do we know that that isn’t the fake, huh?

Belle: Yeah, even if these results are real, they don’t prove that you’re the father.

Evan: She named the baby after me. Christian is my birth name.

Belle: She also named the baby after shawn.

Shawn: She named my son after me.

Evan: Look, I’ll take a paternity test if you want to. In fact, bring it on. See, the sooner that we get this all sorted out, the sooner I can be with my son.

Jake: All right, so you remember the dimera board meeting a little while ago. Kristen attended virtually.

Ava: Mm-hmm, yeah, ’cause she was on the run, as usual.

Jake: Right, well, she voted against my brothers, which kept gabi in charge of the company, and in turn kind of saved my job too.

Ava: So in other words, she did you a major favor.

Jake: Right, and she called me afterwards and basically said that in exchange for that major favor, that maybe the two of us could collaborate, that we would do great things together.

Ava: Yeah, like what exactly?

Jake: I don’t really know. To be honest with you, I kind of forgot about it after she got arrested, but now that she’s free, changes everything.

[Knock at door]

Kristen: Hey, jake, open up. It’s your sister. It’s kristen.

From prom dresses

Sarah: I can’t believe our wedding was ruined again.

Xander: I’m so sorry, sarah. But it’s all gonna work out.

Sarah: Xander.

Xander: I promise you.

Sarah: How can you say it’s gonna work out? I’m a murder suspect.

Xander: Let’s just–let’s not talk about that right now.

Sarah: How can we not talk talk about it? This could change our whole life. I’m sitting here, and I’m worried about me when my cousin abigail was just… how could this happen? How could someone take her life?

Xander: It’s gonna be all right, okay? It’s gonna be okay.

Sarah: How could this day get any worse?

Gwen: Hello, xander, sarah.

Xander: Gwen? What the hell?

Gwen: Guess you haven’t heard. Yeah, the governor set me free. Full pardon. So I’m free as a bird. Isn’t that just the best news ever? Right, well, see you around.

Rolf: It’s good to see you again, stefano. As I’m sure you’re aware, my experiments were on hold for quite some time. But, thanks to kristen, I can finally get back to my important work. I hope I continue to make you proud.

[Dramatic music]

Jake: Ah, hello, kristen.

Kristen: Evening, jake. Hey, ava. Well, since your jaws aren’t hanging on the floor in shock, I presume you heard my wonderful news.

Ava: Yeah, we were just talking about your release. Congratulations. You must be so relieved.

Kristen: You have no idea.

Jake: So, kristen, I was actually just telling ava that you could be knocking at my door any minute ’cause i sort of owe you a favor.

Kristen: Oh, there’s no “sort of” about it. Matter of fact, since I saved your job, in my calculations, you owe my multiple favors.

Jake: How many is multiple?

Kristen: Well, as my lawyer would say, it depends. In any case, I’m here to call on my first one.

Ava: Which is…

Kristen: Which is, I need a place to stay. Yeah, and though it does fall a bit short of my personal standards, I think this little pied–terre of yours will do me just fine. Thank you.

[Sighs]

Evan: Should we all head over to the hospital now, get the ball rolling on the paternity test?

Shawn: Look, my son is not going anywhere.

Evan: Look, I understand you’re upset. Jan lied to us both. But I am telling the truth, and deep down you know that.

Shawn: What I know is that you need to get the hell out of my sight before I rip you to shreds.

Evan: I’ll go, for now. But I’m coming back with that court order for that paternity test.

Belle: Which we will fight.

Evan: Goodnight, shawn christian. Daddy will be back soon.

Jada: You really don’t need to buy me a beer.

Rafe: What–no, you had a great first day. You earned it. Plus, it’ll give me the chance to get you up to speed on the five felons that the governor pardoned today.

Jada: I read about that announcement.

Rafe: Yeah.

Jada: Why would the governor set so many dangerous criminals free?

Rafe: I–well, what do you know? Here comes one of them now.

Orpheus: Evening, commissioner.

Rafe: Yeah. Listen, I don’t know how you managed to pull this off, but you should know that I’ve got my eye on you. So if you came here looking to cause trouble–

Orpheus: Oh, no, no. Wouldn’t dream of it, no. No, from here on in, I’m gonna be a model citizen.

Rafe: Yeah.

[ Dramatic music ]

Taylor: Our poor daughter. What she must be going through.

Ridge: Well, at least she’s taking care of herself. Steffy and the kids are okay.

Taylor: Ridge, I’ve been trying to call her for days.

Ridge: Me too. I just thought she was busy.

Taylor: It’s the last thing in the world that we expected, is to get a call saying she is in a treatment center.

Ridge: I just didn’t know she was struggling that much. Well, at least she– she knew that she needed help and that’s good.

Taylor: Ridge, I should have never let her go by herself.

Ridge: Don’t do that, don’t do that. Do you really think it would make a difference if it’s here or there? It’s about the void that… that finn left. And it’s gonna take a long time to fill that.

[ Heart rate monitor beeping ]

Finn: Tell me you’re lying.

Sheila: I am so sorry, son.

Finn: No. No, no, no. There’s no– there’s no way–

Sheila: I wish it weren’t true, sweetheart. I know that this has got to be devastating for you to hear.

Finn: Where is my mother? What did you do to her?

Sheila: I didn’t do anything to her. Her car was sinking in the bay, finn. There was nothing I could do for her.

Finn: You’re saying that she’s really dead? You killed my mother?

Bill: You okay? Lady! Wow. You need some help.

Ridge: I thought steffy was doing okay.

Taylor: Me too. She just doesn’t want us to worry about her, so–

Ridge: I honestly had no idea it was getting so bad.

Taylor: God, ridge. She was doing all the right things. She– she was going to therapy, she has a grief counsellor.

[ Book slamming on table ]

Ridge: The whole world’s torn apart. All because of sheila.

Sheila: I can explain.

Finn: You really did it. You got rid of my mother.

Sheila: Li may be gone, but I didn’t touch her. She lost control of her suv.

Finn: Because you were hunting her down like an animal!

Sheila: I was preventing her from going to the cops.

Finn: You were protecting yourself!

Sheila: I was protecting us! You were in a bad place, finn. She needed me to help keep you alive, but she betrayed me. She said she was going to get your medicine. And I caught her trying to call the police.

Finn: Because you escaped from prison, sheila! Sheila: What about her? Hiding you. Making everyone believe you were dead. She was no saint. If only she had let us care for you together.

Finn: Oh, stop it! I don’t wanna hear anymore excuses! My mother is dead because of you!

Bill: Are you all right? It– it’s okay. It’s okay. I’m not going to hurt you. What’s your name? I’m bill. Bill spencer. Are you injured? It’s okay. You don’t have to be scared. You need some help. Will you let me help you?

Taylor: So, it looks like the rehab steffy checked into has a good reputation. And they– they specialize in treating depression, which is good. I think she’s in good hands.

Ridge: I just wish we could see her.

Taylor: Yeah, so do I.

Ridge: Well, maybe, you know, just call them. Get her on the phone so we can hear her voice.

Taylor: I would like that. I really would. She– she knows that we’re thinking of her, ridge. She– she also knows we’d be there in a heartbeat if she needed us.

Ridge: I think she does need us, so let’s go. Let’s just get a plane and go.

Taylor: Well, ho– ho– hold on, ridge. I have to respect what the doctor said. Flavia. She said that steffy is in the best possible hands and she doesn’t want us coming out there in the middle of her treatment.

Ridge: But, let’s– okay. But let’s– let’s try to remember that she put herself in treatment, right?

Taylor: Yes. And, you know, the kids are there. The– the kids are there, the nanny is there. You know one thing, I– I bet it feels really good to steffy to have her kids nearby.

Finn: You’re obsessed with me.

Sheila: You are my son, finn, and I love you. I would move heaven and earth for you. You think I would do this for just anyone? Risk everything?

Finn: I hate you, sheila!

Sheila: No, you don’T. No, that is just frustration talking.

Finn: I mean it. You are nothing to me. You’re just some crazy lady that I wish I never met. I gotta get outta here. I gotta go see my family.

Sheila: No, don’t do that. You’re going to hurt yourself:

Finn: No, don’t touch me. Don’t touch me. You’re–

Sheila: You are too weak.

Finn: You are just some crazy psycho.

Sheila: No. You don’t talk to me like that. You do not talk to your mother that way.

Finn: You are not my mother. You gave birth to me, that’s it. Li is my real mother. She always has been and she always will be.

[ Li whimpering ]

Bill: It’s okay. It’s okay. It’s okay. What happened to you? Did you get in a fight? Did somebody hit you? I think it’s best if I call an ambulance, call 9-1-1–

Li: No, no no.

Bill: Okay. Okay. Okay. Have you eaten today? Are you hungry?

[ Li whimpering ]

Bill: Are– are you sick? Oh, so you’re– you’re clearly in bad shape. You’ve got to let me do something for you. Get you some food, get you cleaned up, uh. I know you’re afraid. I don’t blame ya. It’s a crazy world out there. I get afraid sometimes.

Li: He– he– help me please.

Bill: Yes.

Li: Help me, please.

Bill: Of– of course I– I’ll help you. You won’t let me call an ambulance, so uh. I’m gonna take you to my home. All right? I’ve got everything you need there. I know you’re frightened, but it’s gonna be okay. You can trust me. I promise.

[ Li whimpering ]

Bill: It’s okay. Here you go. It’s okay. I’ll help you. I’ll help you. What can I du with less asthma?

Ridge: I’m trying to wrap my head around this still. I knew it was gonna be a long journey, I just was hoping that–

Taylor: I know. I know. We don’t want to see our daughter in pain, and–

Ridge: No. It’s my kid. I should be able to take her pain away. It’s my job.

Taylor: Oh, ridge. Don’t put this on yourself, okay? This is– this is steffy’s healing journey. She has to go through this.

Ridge: Yeah, it’s her healing journey, I know. But, she kept telling us she was getting better.

Taylor: Because that’s who she is. She has to be strong for everybody else. That’s what she does. But– but it’s taken a toll on her. All of this. Finn was the love of her life.

Finn: You’re a murderer.

Sheila: I didn’t kill li. She was driving too fast. She must’ve taken her eyes off the road. It was just a terrible accident.

Finn: Just like shooting me was an accident.

Sheila: Yes. Ooh. I love you, finn. All I ever wanted was to spend time with you and hayes. Why would I purposely hurt you? Think about it. Your mother, she’s a doctor. I needed li to take care of you, to bring meds for you. Yes, I– I chased her. I was trying to convince her not to turn me in, but… I never wanted to see her die. Please, you’ve got to believe me.

Finn: I will never believe a word you say again. Never.

Sheila: I won’t let you lose faith in me. I’m gonna continue to try to prove myself to you, but you just need to stay calm and patient because I don’t want to sedate you again.

Finn: Where’s steffy?

Sheila: What?

Finn: Where’s my wife?

Sheila: I already told you, she’s traveling.

Finn: So you say.

Sheila: Well, it’s true. She and the kids are out of town. I told you, they’re fine.

Finn: Are you lying to me? Did you do something to steffy?

Sheila: Steffy, do not

make that call.

[Gun firing]

Finn: Did you harm her? Answer me, sheila. Did you hurt my wife?

Bill: All right. Come on. It’s okay, come on. It’s all right. Yup. Keep going. Over to the couch. Sit down over there. There you go. It’s okay. It’s okay. Good. Good. That’s better. I’m just gonna sit here with you for a second. You okay? I know that you’re, uh, unsure about everything, but you are safe here. I– I’ve got security all over the place. There’s a staff that takes care of this entire property. No harm is gonna come to you. Certainly not from me. I just wanna provide some refuge. I wanna help you get better. And, to that end, you really need to see a doctor. Let them run some tests on you. Let me take you to the hospital. Okay?

[ Bill sighing ] Okay, okay. All right. We’ll just stay put here. Could you tell me your name? Anything about yourself? You must be hungry. Can I get you some food? At least some water? Look at me. If I could get you to trust me, just a little. Tell me who you are. Tell me what happened to you. I brought in ensure max protein

Taylor: I’ve been in denial.

Ridge: About steffy?

Taylor: Yes. I know she’s going through such a hard time knowing that– knowing that hayes will never see his father again.

Ridge: That’s the worst part. That poor little boy.

Taylor: Yeah. And steffy’s grieving, but she’s also grieving for kelly and hayes.

Ridge: Such a beautiful family they are and these beautiful kids.

Taylor: Yes, and finn, he was– he was so wonderful. He was… he brought so much to so many people’s lives.

Ridge: Especially steffy.

Taylor: The way they were together. They were so cute. The way her eyes would light up when– when she’d see him.

Ridge: Yeah. Never seen her smile so big.

[ Taylor sighing ]

Ridge: Even when he told his terrible jokes.

Taylor: Yeah, they were kind of bad sometimes, right?

Ridge: Awful. Oh, ridge, I can’t help but think what it would be like if finn was still alive. You know? For steffy, you know, the– the darkness in her heart would– would go away and her life would just light up again.

Finn: Where’s steffy?

Sheila: We’ve been over this ten times already.

Finn: No. Where is she, really? I need– I need to talk to her. She needs to see me. She needs to know that I’m alive.

[ Monitor beeping faster ]

Sheila: You need to calm down because you’re– your heart rate is going up.

Finn: You need to give me a phone.

Sheila: What?

Finn: You need to let me talk to her.

Sheila: No, not yet.

Finn: How long are you gonna make me stay here? I need to talk to– I need to talk to my family.

Sheila: No, no, no.

Finn: They need to know. Steffy is probably heartbroken.

Sheila: No, no, no. Just a few more days, that’s all, okay? Just let me nurse you back to health. Just a few more days.

Finn: This isn’t about me. This about you not going back to prison. This is about you not being behind bars. You deserve to be behind bars for the rest of your miserable life.

Sheila: No. You’re not listening to me, are you? Because I love you. I wanna make this up to you, finn.

Finn: Yes.

Sheila: I’m gonna make it up to you, baby.

Finn: I’ve got to make it out of here.

Sheila: No, don’t do that.

Finn: Make it up to me? You killed my mom.

Sheila: No, you’ve got to stay.

Finn: You killed my mom, so I can’t even–

Sheila: No. Stop.

Finn: You killed my mom.

Sheila: No, no, that’s not–

Finn: You killed my mom. You killed my mom!

Bill: Here’s some water for you. Can I? I’m just gonna put it right here. Okay. You’ve been through something very traumatic, that much I know, but if you won’t talk to me, I can’t help you. How did you end up in that alley? Is there anybody I can call? Any friends? Any family? Yes. You have some family? Brothers? Sisters? Do you have a husband? What about children?

Li: Yeah.

Bill: Yes? You– you have children? I– I have children. I have three boys. What about you? Do you have a daughter? Do you have a son?

[ Li whimpering ] You have a son? Yes, you have a son?

Li: Uh– uh– uh–

Bill: That’s good. That’s good. You’re trying to talk to me. That’s great. Go ahead.

Li: M– ma– ma

Bill: Yes, what is it? What are you trying to tell me?

Li: Uh– uh huh.

Bill: What is it?

[ Li stammering ] You have? You have? What?

[ Li stammering]

Young & The Restless Update

Recap written by Christine

Noah and Nick were at Crimson Lights on the patio. Noah said he’d wanted to postpone this conversation until Nick was more settled at Newman, but Sharon and Allie encouraged him to do this now. Nick started to worry. Noah started explaining how he’d been trying to find the right career path, and Nick caught on that he wanted to leave New Hope. Noah loved the work the charity did, and he’d been proud to work alongside Nick, but New Hope was Nick’s vision, not Noah’s. His heart wasn’t in running New Hope full time. Nick asked how long Noah had thought about making a change. Noah said putting together the unique experience for Mariah and Tessa’s wedding, like an art director felt good and right.

Noah wanted to turn Top of the Tower into an art-inspired nightclub. Nick was interested in hearing more. Noah wanted to make a place where people could have fun and relax. He wanted to incorporate the stuff he learned working at the Underground and managing the Top of the Tower with the stuff he learned in London art culture and make something new and inspiring. Nick asked what Victor said. Noah wanted to talk to Nick first, and he also had to put together a solid proposal to show Victor that a nightclub would be more profitable than the restaurant. Noah promised to stay on at New Hope until they found a replacement Nick was satisfied with. Noah hated letting Nick down, though. Nick said Noah could never disappoint him. He was also really happy to see Noah so excited about something, and he was fully supportive of this idea. They hugged.

Noah felt relieved at how Nick took the news. Nick said he’d made a lot of career changes, so it’d be hypocritical of him to judge. Nick had been excited about the possibility of Noah continuing his work at New Hope, but the most important thing was that Noah was happy. Noah said Allie told him this was probably how Nick would react, and that’s what gave him the guts to have this conversation. Noah mentioned he and Allie had a date tonight. Nick said he’d be there if Noah ever needed advice. He said to have fun tonight.

Victoria was shaken up when she got home. She made sure to lock the door immediately after she stepped inside, and she jumped when she heard knocking. Billy called out, and Victoria relaxed and let him in, relocking the door behind him. He wanted to let her know that he and Lily were going on a business trip to LA, so he wouldn’t be able to pick up the kids at camp. He noticed she seemed tense. There was a through-the-window shot of Billy and Victoria talking inside. Someone was watching them.

Victoria said she had a lot on her mind. Billy was sure she did. He heard Ashland was back. She said Ashland was the least of her worries. Billy asked why Ashland was back, and Victoria said she imagined it had to do with Harrison. Billy noted that Ashland lied to Harrison about having cancer and let Kyle take him to Milan. Victoria said Ashland got arrested for violating the restraining order against Harrison, and he’d already made bail. It was windy out, and something blew over, scaring Victoria.

Billy asked Victoria if she was okay, and he lightened the mood by reminding her that the house made so much noise when it was windy that the kids made up a game about it called the grumpy goblin. Victoria said that now that Katie was in her sci-fi phase, she theorized that an alien lived in the attic. He marveled that it seemed like yesterday they were teaching Katie the alphabet. Victoria wished they could stop time and freeze the kids at this stage where they were old enough to be independent, but young enough to be innocent and get excited about everything. He agreed that it was nice to see the world through innocent eyes. That was one of the things she was looking forward to about the kids coming home again. He was a little concerned about Ashland being in town. He thought they had to wonder about Ashland’s headspace. Victoria didn’t know or care what was going on in Ashland’s head. He was worried about her being home alone especially with the kids coming back. Victoria said if Ashland was mad at anyone, it’d be the Abbotts, because they had him arrested. She was sure she could handle things, and she said Victor had a security team on her. She said she could pick up the kids, and she looked forward to having them on her own. He asked about work, and she said that Nikki and Nick made it easier for her to step away from the office. She told him she’d be fine, and she asked him to go so she could get some work done. He left.

Billy caught Nick at Crimson Lights and told him that Victoria was on edge. Nick said he hadn’t seen anything like that. He told Billy not to worry about Victoria and to stay out of it. Billy commented that Nick had been back at Newman for five minutes, and he already sounded like Victor. Billy said Victoria was the mother of his kids, and he had good reason to worry. Nick said Billy felt compelled to play white knight to a woman who got over him years ago. Billy said he was just with Victoria, and he saw that she was covering up how upset she was that Ashland was still around, and Ashland was reckless enough to disobey a court order. Nick said Ashland was an entitled jerk who thought rules were for other people. Billy thought Ashland would want to retaliate. Nick said he might retaliate against Kyle, since he was the one who got the restraining order. Billy thought that was logical, but Ashland didn’t think logically. Nick appreciated the concern, but they were done with this. Billy reminded Nick that they were recently on the same side, trying to show Victoria what kind of man she married. Billy said he’d cancel his work trip to keep an eye on Victoria. Nick said there was nothing for Billy to do. He promised he wouldn’t let Ashland hurt Victoria, and he told Billy to go on his trip. Billy told Nick to go check on his sister. Nick called Victoria.

The wind whipped around outside while Victoria worked. She heard rapping on the patio door and opened the curtains to see Ashland glowering at her. Victoria opened the door and demanded to know what Ashland was doing spying on her. He said he’d been debating on whether to make his presence known. He wanted to see her one last time. She said he shouldn’t be here, and she wondered if she needed to get a restraining order. He wasn’t sure how to say goodbye after all they’d been through. Victoria agreed to hear Ashland out if he promised to leave her alone after this. She let him inside. He said it was so hard to see her so wary, but it was hard to stay away too. He asked if she felt the same way. He said their time together were the happiest days of his life. He knew she felt the same way, because she’d told him as much in the past. He asked if she really looked at him right now and felt that it was all over between them. Nick’s call came in, but Victoria didn’t answer it. She told Ashland that they were over. He said her family turned her against him. She strongly told him that these were her words – there was nothing between them. She thought he’d accept that after NY. She told him he didn’t like to lose. “I will not be dismissed!,” he snapped.

Ashland yelled about how he’d never felt remorse a day in his life until Victoria’s love changed him. He said her love and their marriage made him want to be a better person, then she just took all that away from him, and now he really was that lost man she and her father accused him of being all along. “You were my whole heart and my soul and now they’ve both been ripped away from me,” he said. She refused to take the blame for something he brought it on himself. He screamed at her that he felt pain because of her – because she made him feel again. He said he’d believed her when she said she’d always love him no matter what. She said he wanted to believe she’d forgive and forget all his monumental lies. He said she just couldn’t accept that something changed in him, or maybe she saw the change and she didn’t care. She yelled that there was nothing left for him to fight for.

Victoria asked Ashland to leave. He refused because he wasn’t finished. She said whatever fantasy he had about how this meeting would go, it wasn’t going to happen. Her voice shook as she told him to leave her home and leave town. She headed toward the door, but he jumped in front of her and walked toward her, causing her to back away. He yelled that she wanted him gone because she couldn’t face up to what she’d done and the sacrifices she’d made when she gave up on them. She told him he couldn’t manipulate her anymore. She said she stopped giving a damn about him when she realized who he really was. He felt that she thought she could throw him away like a piece of trash. He was just a few inches away from her now. “There’s only one way that you’re gonna be done with me. I see that now. Only one way to end this,” Ashland stated, ominously. Since Victoria didn’t answer the phone earlier, Nick showed up and knocked on the door and yelled out to Victoria.

Allie and Noah went to Dive Bar and commented on the wind. He pointed out the wind barriers around the deck. He told her about the talk with Nick, and she was really happy for him. He admitted she was right, and she had him repeat that a couple times, then she said it was time to celebrate. Allie said Noah was right that the GCAC rooftop was pretty chill at night. She accepted his offer to dance, and as they swayed, he said he couldn’t stop thinking about their kiss. She kissed him again.

At Society, Sally told Chloe that Nick and Victoria were giving her a three month trial period at work, which meant Chloe would also be coming in on a trial basis. Sally understood if Chloe didn’t want to take an offer that might not be permanent. Chloe wondered if Sally didn’t want her to accept the offer, so she could hire someone with more experience. Sally said she and Chloe worked really well together, and she trusted her implicitly. Sally had faith in Chloe’s ability to learn the job in record time. Chloe took the job, and Sally was glad. Chloe wanted to make it clear that she wasn’t just taking the job because Chelsea ended their partnership. Chloe said she had to live up to the standard Sally set. Chloe thought Victoria must be impressed with Sally to keep her on, despite her involvement with Adam, one of Victoria’s least favorite humans. At that moment, Adam walked through. He and Sally locked eyes, then he went and got his takeout and started to leave. Sally excused herself from the table.

Sally went after Adam, and she told him not to be a coward and run away from her. She asked if he got her voicemail. He didn’t want to do this again, because he got no pleasure out of being cruel to her. She asked if he destroyed what they had so she could keep her job at Newman Media. She said in spite of his past and who he used to be, she refused to believe he could so easily shut off his feelings for her and throw it all away. He thought he already made it clear that was a liability who was standing between him and a chance to prove himself to his father. He thought she should focus on her job instead of chasing a man who didn’t love her. He was surprised Victoria let her stay, even though she deserved the job. He told her to make the most of her opportunity and stop wasting her time and his. Chelsea walked up and saw Sally crying. She asked if everything was okay, and Adam left.

Sally went back to her table. Chloe wondered what was going on, and Sally said she and Adam weren’t together. Sally didn’t want to hear that Chloe was relieved. Sally said she was going to focus on work, and she raised a toast to the job. Chloe asked if Adam expected Sally to quit in solidarity to him. Sally changed the subject back to work. Chloe knew this was harder for Sally than she was letting on. Sally said she refused to let her personal problems let her lose this job. Chloe told Sally to hold onto that sentiment, because Adam had a bad habit of keeping women in his orbit and making them feel like they had something special and like the woman was the only one who truly understood him. In a sad tone, Sally said thanks. Chloe said she knew this relationship would end badly, because she’d seen it happen multiple times, and it was irritating to watch him treat people this way. Chloe said if Sally stayed mired in this toxic mix, Adam would cost her everything, and she shouldn’t let him. Chloe said Sally had this job on merit, so she shouldn’t worry about Adam.

Chelsea walked up and said she couldn’t believe how Adam just treated Sally and that she felt terrible for Sally. Sally brusquely said she appreciated the concern, but she and Chloe were in a meeting. Chelsea came to the wrong conclusion, and she was annoyed that Chloe asked Sally to work with her at Fenmore’s and confused that Lauren allowed it. Sally clarified that she was still CEO of Newman Media, and Chloe was her COO. Chelsea thought Adam was CEO of Newman Media now that Victoria was in charge again. Sally said Adam wasn’t interested and he was moving on from everything. “Including you, apparently. Wow. That lasted about as long as I expected it to,” Chelsea replied.

Sally said Chelsea dumped Chloe with no warning for her own bizarre reasons. Chelsea said that Chloe made it very clear the partnership wasn’t working for her either. Sally said in other words, Chelsea screwed up, and Chloe called her out on it. Chloe said she understood Chelsea needed to end the partnership, for herself. Sally thought that Chelsea should show Chloe the same grace and understanding and be happy for her. Chloe said she was in a good place. “You replace me with her of all people?,” Chelsea griped. Chelsea was mad that Chloe hired Sally at Newman Fashion without even asking Chelsea first. Chloe pointed out that Chelsea didn’t even work there then, and she wasn’t even in town when Sally got hired.

Chelsea noted that Sally had gone from Chloe’s subordinate to her boss. “Do you see how manipulative [Sally] is?,” Chelsea told Chloe. Sally said she was sorry Chelsea’s life was so empty and miserable that she had nothing better to do than spew poison, but no one at this table cared. Billy walked in. Chelsea said she was embarking on a new partnership too. She wished Sally luck with the job Adam gave her because he was sleeping with her at the time. Chelsea went with Billy.

Sally called Chelsea a witch. Chloe said Chelsea had her moments. Sally wondered what was going on with Chelsea and Billy, and Chloe told her about the podcast. Sally thought that was weird. Chloe wished Chelsea the best if the podcast was what she needed to finish healing. Sally thought Chloe was generous with Chelsea. Chloe said they were still on the outs, but she still cared about Chelsea. Chloe changed the subject to work and proving themselves to Victoria. They could hear Chelsea laughing.

Chelsea called Billy boss, and he said they were partners. He told her he was going out of town for a few days, and he’d emailed her some ideas for the podcast.

Sally wondered what Lily thought of this partnership between Billy and Lily. Chloe didn’t know, and she said it was none of her business. Chelsea laughed again, and Sally stared at her.

Update written by Joseph

Shawn takes care of baby Shawn at home as Belle walks in. They talk about when Claire was that age. Belle says she’s really glad that he got to bring the baby home. Shawn thanks her for coming over. Belle asks what he wanted to talk about. Shawn responds that he wanted to apologize.

Evan informs Orpheus that the Governor’s press conference just ended, so it’s official that they have been granted pardons. Orpheus says that’s no thanks to him. Evan knows he shouldn’t have told Kristen DiMera their plan, but says it’s all working out in the end as all three of them are getting out. Orpheus warns that the Governor was not pleased by Kristen’s special requests and she nearly tanked the entire deal.

Kristen returns to Gwen’s cell with her hand wrapped as she tells Gwen about punching the wall. Gwen guesses she was having a bad day. Kristen responds that she was, but things are starting to look up.

Xander is at the police station, on the phone with Maggie. Xander encourages that everything will be straightened out and promises that Sarah will be fine. Xander hangs up when he sees Rafe and tells him that he needs to let Sarah out immediately because this is all terribly unfair. Rafe tells him to calm down as they just need to ask her a few questions. Xander questions it not being able to wait until after their wedding because Jada crashed their ceremony and treated Sarah like a common criminal. Xander argues against the idea of Sarah murdering Abigail. Rafe says right now, she’s just a person of interest. Xander complains that Sarah shouldn’t be talking to the cops without a lawyer. Rafe explains that Sarah insisted on not needing one and that decision was hers to make. Xander hopes she doesn’t end up regretting that decision.

Jada talks with Sarah in the interrogation room, noting that an eye witness placed her at the scene of the DiMera Estate when Abigail was killed. Sarah asks if she can tell her who the witness was. Jada reveals that it was Lucas. Jada brings up Sarah mentioning being on medication and asks what for. Sarah explains that it’s to help control after effects of a drug she was given. Jada asks what these after effects are. Sarah admits they are hallucinations.

Jake comes home as Ava is finishing a call with Tripp. Ava kisses Jake and asks about work. Jake mocks watching Gabi and Li Shin’s love fest. Ava asks if things are getting serious with them. Jake says it looks like it and asks about Ava’s day. Ava informs Jake that she was just watching a pretty interesting press conference and guesses he hasn’t heard that the Governor issued several pardons just now, including one for Jake’s sister Kristen.

Kristen tells Gwen that she was pretty much resigned to finishing out her sentence here with the occasional upset when an amazing opportunity for a full pardon just fell in to her lap. Gwen congratulates her and guesses this is goodbye then. Kristen says actually it isn’t because Gwen is coming with her which she questions. Kristen tells her that she wouldn’t leave her behind and declares that she got Gwen a full pardon too.

Shawn informs Belle that he spoke to Chloe earlier and she really helped him understand how unfair he’s been to Belle since the moment baby Shawn was conceived. Shawn tells Belle that he was wrong to let her believe that he and Jan never had sex and he should’ve told her the moment it happened so that she wouldn’t have been blindsided months later by her pregnancy. Shawn is sorry for the decisions he made that affected both of them like letting Jan move in and telling Belle to keep her distance. Shawn says he was just trying to protect his unborn son but he should’ve involved her in every decision and made it clear that they were a team. Belle admits that she didn’t really make that easy for him because the idea of Jan having his baby drove her crazy, so she shut down. Shawn feels he should’ve worked harder to find a different solution, like having Jan live somewhere else but he put Belle in an impossible position and he’s so sorry for that.

Evan tells Orpheus that Governor Mitchell didn’t mention Kristen’s two other demands at the beginning so he was worried, but he managed to sneak them in at the end. Orpheus guesses he was embarrassed by what Kristen made him do and he doesn’t blame him. Dr. Rolf then excitedly enters the room and hugs Orpheus, thanking him for getting him a pardon from the Governor. Dr. Rolf mentions helping Orpheus escape one time and jokes that he was starting to think he didn’t like him. Orpheus says he doesn’t. Evan then clarifies that Rolf’s release was Kristen’s idea, not his dad’s. Dr. Rolf responds that he should’ve known the DiMeras would once again come to his rescue. Evan questions why Dr. Rolf is so loyal to the DiMeras. He responds that Stefano was the first person to acknowledge and encourage his scientific genius and apparently Kristen shares his wisdom and values his talents as well.

Gwen questions Kristen having Evan tell Orpheus that he needs to secure a pardon for herself, Dr. Rolf, and her. Kristen explains that she is loyal to Dr. Rolf and he may come in handy as well. Gwen gets that but asks why she would ask to pardon her. Kristen responds that she’s a good and loyal friend. Gwen didn’t realize they were friends. Kristen says of course they are and she hasn’t forgotten how Gwen helped her escape police custody. Gwen blames her blackmailing her. Kristen says they didn’t start on a level playing field, but Gwen and Ava came through for her, so she felt she owed her one. Gwen calls this incredible. Kristen jokes about everybody getting a pardon. Gwen says not everybody.

Jake asks Ava about Kristen being free now which she confirms along with Evan and Orpheus. Jake asks if the Governor said why he issued these pardons. Ava doesn’t know since Tripp called in the middle of the conference, so she didn’t get all the details. Jake asks if Ava would have anything to do with it. Ava questions why he would even ask that. Jake imagines that Ava still has some influence over her mob ties and she was friends with Kristen since she helped Kristen escape police custody twice. Ava tells him that she had nothing to do with the Governor’s pardon but jokes that she kind of likes that he thinks she has that kind of power to pull off something like that. Jake thinks there’s no limit to what she could pull off with her charm and brains. Jake calls her a woman of many talents as they kiss.

Xander asks Rafe who the supposed eye witness is but Rafe says he’s not at liberty to say. Xander asks if it was Lucas because he heard some cops talking about a hypnosis session he had with Marlena which sounds totally bogus to him. Rafe repeats that he’s not revealing the identity of the witness. Xander says of course it was Lucas and argues that he’s just trying to point the finger at somebody else. Rafe asks why Lucas would implicate Sarah of all people. Xander suggests it was the first name to pop in to his head. Xander argues that Sarah is a doctor, who took an oath to do no harm, and is the kindest person on earth so she’d never murder anyone, especially her own cousin.

Jada asks Sarah more about the drug that causes the hallucinations. Sarah says it doesn’t have a name as it’s experimental and she didn’t take it willingly as Kristen DiMera injected her with it. Jada asks why she did that. Sarah responds that Kristen was keeping her hostage in the DiMera Tunnels and she found the syringe on the floor, so she planned to use it on Kristen to try to escape but Kristen overpowered her and used it on her instead. Jada asks how the drug filled syringe just happened to be on the floor. Sarah explains that she didn’t know then but later learned that Abigail left it behind. Jada points out that in a way, that means Abigail was responsible for her hallucinations so she must have been angry with her. Sarah says of course not and declares that this is all Kristen’s fault, so she is the one she is angry at. Sarah calls Kristen a vile human being and a sadistic bitch, adding that she hates her for what she did to her.

Kristen asks Gwen who else she was supposed to get a pardon for. Gwen brings up Lani. Kristen says she would if she could have but the Governor doesn’t have jurisdiction now that Lani is serving her sentence out of state. Gwen says that’s too bad for her. Gwen exctiedly declares that they are really going home tonight and hugs Kristen.

Dr. Rolf calls this a delightful turn of events to be getting out tonight as he goes to get ready. Orpheus calls him a freak show. Evan says Dr. Rolf is just excited to have his life back. Evan declares that as soon as he’s out, he’s going straight to Shawn’s to claim his child. Orpheus gives Evan the original results from Jan’s paternity test that proves Shawn is not the father of her baby. Evan thanks him, but wishes he told him the truth a lot sooner. Evan gets that he let him down and he’s sorry. Orpheus says he’s fine and tells him to just go get his grandson, because he belongs with them and not Marlena’s dim-witted son in law.

Belle tells Shawn that in the beginning, she wanted to lay all the blame on him but she realizes now that she can’t because she made some mistakes as well. Belle says she pretty much did what she always does when things are rough between them and sought comfort and assurance from someone else, when she should’ve been trying to work things out with him. Belle admits that every time they fought, she turned to EJ even though she knows how much it bothered him. Belle guesses on some level, that’s probably why she did it. Shawn knows part of her ran to EJ to hurt him, but asks if that’s all it was. Shawn questions if in the end, did she fall in love with EJ. Belle assures that she did not and that EJ was there for her, but it was never love. Belle adds that she didn’t file for separation to be with EJ but because she really felt they needed that space. Belle admits that having the separation papers helped her rationalize that it was okay for her to be with EJ because she told herself that she wasn’t betraying their vows since they were legally separated. Belle cries that she knows that it was a betrayal and she is deeply sorry that she hurt him. Shawn says they have established that they are both sorry, so he asks where that leaves them now.

Jada asks if Sarah is still suffering from hallucinations. Sarah says not as much since her medication was adjusted. Jada asks for an example of how the hallucinations manifest themselves. Sarah explains that she imagined her stepfather was Kristen with a syringe but it was just him with a pen. Jada asks if there were any other incidents. Sarah admits she mistook Nicole for Kristen and attacked her by grabbing her arm but Xander stepped in and helped her snap out of her hallucination. Jada asks if she had any other hallucination. Sarah then admits there was Chanel. Jada asks if she attacked her the same way she did Nicole. Sarah says sort of, so Jada asks her to elaborate on that. Sarah then reveals that she threatened Chanel with a knife.

Xander complains that he and Sarah should be celebrating their wedding night right now, but once again all of their plans have gone to Hell. Xander says they were kept apart for so long by Kristen and Gwen, so he really thought this was their chance finally to be happily ever after. Xander kicks a chair in frustration. Rafe tells Xander that he’s not completely unsympathetic to his feelings and asks him to put his frustration aside and be objective. Rafe adds that if it turns out that Sarah was at the DiMera Mansion on the night that Abigail was murdered, then they need to know everything that happened and if it turns out Sarah is innocent then she might be able to shed some light on the investigation. Rafe then gets a call from Abe. Rafe says he did not see the press conference and can’t believe what he is told.

Shawn tells Belle that there’s not an easy answer which she agrees with. Shawn then gets a text that shocks him that Governor Mitchell pardoned five people and tells Belle that she won’t believe who they are.

Jake looks through his phone as Ava asks if he found out why the Governor pardoned Kristen. Jake says he was pretty vague about why, but he did come across a related piece of news that she might be interested to hear. Jake informs her that towards the end of the press conference, Governor Mitchell announced two more pardons, one for Dr. Rolf and the other for Gwen which shocks Ava. Ava calls them a real rogues gallery and says as of tonight, the five of them are all free to do whatever the hell they want.

Orpheus, Evan, Kristen, Gwen, and Dr. Rolf all walk out of the prison together.

Jada brings up that Sarah said she was planning on visiting Abigail. Sarah confirms that Marlena suggested it because of Abigail having a similar reaction to the same drug. Jada asks what happened when she visited her. Sarah responds that she didn’t go and instead went to prison to see Abigail’s sister, Gwen and then she went to the Salem Inn to lay down because she was feeling off since her meds weren’t adjusted yet. Jada questions Sarah saying she never went to the DiMera Mansion that night which Sarah confirms. Jada reminds her that Lucas said he saw her there. Sarah calls that impossible so either Lucas is lying or mistaken. Jada adds that Lucas said he saw Sarah fleeing down the stairs with an object in her hand that she dropped. Sarah says she couldn’t have dropped anything if she wasn’t there. Jada thinks what she had her in hand was the knife that killed Abigail DiMera.

Dr. Rolf thanks Kristen for securing his freedom and complains about prison. Kristen says she knows Stefano wouldn’t want him to languish behind bars and now he can continue his work. Dr. Rolf asks if Kristen will require his services in the future. Kristen says she’ll get in touch soon and tells him to lie low and stay out of trouble until then. Dr. Rolf says he will await her instructions and walks away. Gwen questions what services of his Kristen will be requiring and what exactly she has planned.

Belle finishes a call with Marlena and tells Shawn that they are on alert about Orpheus and that Brady knows about Kristen. Shawn says he left word for Ben and Ciara but thankfully they are halfway around the world where Evan can’t get to them. Belle states that everyone they love is safe then. Shawn assures they will stay that way. Evan walks in and says he’s sorry to interrupt but the door was open. Shawn questions what the hell he’s doing here and says his sister isn’t here. Evan reveals that he’s here to get his son which Shawn questions. Evan declares that he’s not sorry to tell him as he’s proud to say, Shawn Christian is not Shawn’s son, but his.

Sarah tells Jada that Abigail was her cousin and she loved her. Sarah adds that Abigail rescued her from Kristen, so she’s grateful to her and asks why in God’s name would she ever hurt her. Jada says she obviously wouldn’t in her right state of mind, but she’s subject to hallucinations so it’s possible that she thought Abigail was Kristen and felt she was a threat. Jada brings up that Sarah admitted to brandishing a knife with Chanel and could’ve done the same thing to Abigail but this time no one was there to stop her from taking her revenge. Sarah asks if she’s under arrest. Jada says no, so Sarah says she’d like to leave then.

Kristen tells Gwen that she always has a plan, but she’s not ready to share the details. Kristen declares that she intends to get back everything she lost and assumes Gwen will do the same. Gwen says she might be able to repair her relationship with Jack, but her and Xander are a lost cause after what she did to Sarah. Gwen doesn’t think Xander will ever speak to her again, let alone take her back. Kristen says at least she has a fighting chance. Kristen calls Gwen beautiful, smart, and more interesting than Sarah. Kristen adds that she could never stand Xander but for some reason, Gwen loves him. Kristen declares that they have both been given a second chance at freedom, so she thinks they need to go after what they want and not let anyone stand in their way.

Xander paces at the police station, wondering what’s taking so long. Sarah comes out of the interrogation room, so Xander asks what happened. Sarah asks him to just take her home so they exit the station together.

Shawn threatens to kill Evan if he takes another step towards his son. Evan says he didn’t come to fight with him. Shawn tells Evan to get the hell out of his house. Evan understands why he might not believe him. Belle calls Evan a psychotic murderer. Evan swears that he’s telling the truth that he’s the father of Jan’s baby. Shawn asks how he even knows Jan. Evan explains that the hooked up in prison after meeting in the infirmary. Evan says he didn’t know at the time, but she wanted him to get her pregnant so she could pass the baby off at Shawn’s and it worked. Shawn argues that he has a paternity test that proves he is the baby’s father. Evan reveals that was a test that Orpheus helped Jan alter. Shawn questions why Orpheus would do that. Evan says he had his reasons. Belle argues that this doesn’t make any sense. Evan presents the real paternity test results that says Shawn is not the father. Shawn asks how they know that’s not fake. Belle argues the results don’t prove that Evan is the real father. Evan explains that Jan named the baby after him since Christian is his birth name. Belle argues that she also named him after Shawn. Shawn insists that it’s his son. Evan tells him they can take another paternity test and the sooner they get this figured out, the sooner he can be with his son.

Jake reminds Ava about the DiMera board meeting awhile ago where Kristen attended virtually and voted against his brothers which kept Gabi in charge of the company and kind of saved his job too. Ava says that she did him a major favor. Jake reveals that Kristen called him after and basically suggested they collaborate and do great things together in return for that favor. Ava questions like what. Jake admits he doesn’t know and forgot about it after she got arrested, but now that she’s free, it changes everything. Kristen then knocks on the door, calling for Jake to open up.

Xander and Sarah walk through the town square. Sarah can’t believe their wedding was ruined again. Xander promises it’s all going to work out. Sarah asks how he can say that when she’s a murder suspect. Xander suggests not talking about that right now but Sarah says this could change their whole life. Sarah asks how this could happen and how someone could take Abigail’s life. Xander hugs her and insists it’s going to be alright. Sarah questions how this day could get any worse. Gwen then approaches them and greets them. Xander is shocked and asks what the hell. Gwen guesses he hasn’t heard that the Governor set her free with a full pardon, so she’s free as a bird and calls it the best news ever. Gwen says she’ll see them around and walks off.

Dr. Rolf returns to the DiMera Mansion and toasts to the portrait of Stefano, saying it’s good to see him again. Rolf says his experiments have been on hold for quite some time, but thanks to Kristen, he can finally get back to his important work. He hopes he continues to make Stefano proud. Dr. Rolf then pushes the button and enters the DiMera Tunnels.

Jake answers the door to see Kristen. Kristen presumes they heard her wonderful news. Ava confirms they were just talking about her release and congratulates her. Jake says he was just telling Ava that Kristen could be knocking on his door any minute because he sort of owes her a favor. Kristen says she saved his job, so he owes her multiple favors. Kristen declares that she’s here to call on her first favor as she needs a place to stay. Kristen says this falls short of her personal standards but it will do her just fine, making Jake and Ava uncomfortable.

Evan asks if they should all go to the hospital to get the ball rolling on a paternity test. Shawn argues that his son is not going anywhere. Evan understands Shawn is upset since Jan lied to them both but he’s telling the truth. Shawn warns Evan to get the hell out of his sight before he rips him to shreds. Evan agrees to go for now, but warns that he’s coming back with a court order for a paternity test. Belle says they will fight that. Evan tells baby Shawn Christian that daddy will be back soon as he walks out.

Rafe brings Jada to the Brady Pub. She tells him that he doesn’t need to buy her a beer but Rafe says she had a great first day, so she earned it, plus it will give him the chance to get her up to speed on the five felons that the Governor pardoned today. Jada says she read about that and questions why the Governor would set so many dangerous criminals free. Orpheus walks up and Rafe says here comes one of them now. Rafe doesn’t know how Orpheus managed to pull this off, but warns that he has his eye on him if he came to cause trouble. Orpheus remarks that he wouldn’t dream of it as from here on, he’s going to be a model citizen. Orpheus then walks away.

Sharon: Oh, I don’t know. Maybe it’s the look on your face whenever you’re around her or talking about her. Let’s see, what’s the word I’m looking for? Oh, I know — happy.

Noah: That’s very funny. But, yeah, yeah, I like her. She’s cool, easy to hang out with.

Sharon: She kind of took you by surprise, didn’t she?

Noah: Yeah, I can’t remember ever feeling so comfortable and so relaxed with someone this quickly.

*********************

Ashley: Okay. I’m glad. It’s so important to me that you have your eyes wide open where Diane Jenkins is concerned. Honestly, as long as her presence is here in this town, she will continue to inflict pain on our family. What is it? What are you thinking? I mean, honestly, express it, please. I promise you, it’s not going to affect our relationship at the lab or here. I promise.

Allie: Okay. Ashley, I just… I just want you to know that even though I may seem innocent or naive, I am anything but, and I won’t let anyone manipulate me. Not Diane. Not Phyllis. And not you. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go get ready for my date with Noah.

Recap written by Christine

At Crimson Lights, Sharon asked if the great thing Noah referenced had something to do with Allie. He said he liked Allie a lot, and he couldn’t remember being so comfortable and relaxed with someone this quickly. He was wondering if this thing with Allie could go anywhere. Noah had never been in a relationship like this before. He said first he and Allie irritated each other, then they became friends, and it wasn’t his usual thing. Sharon understood what was going on. She said that since Noah’s first girlfriend, he’d always been attracted to troublemakers and drama queens who had a lot of baggage and who were destined to break his heart. She didn’t judge, since she had her own history. She said he was raised by parents who had a complicated past, and maybe he grew up thinking that conflict in a relationship was normal and expected, but it didn’t have to be that way. She said she’d like to see him with someone who was smart, kind and honest and appreciated him. “Like what you had with Rey,” he said, and she agreed. She told him that a loving lasting relationship didn’t have to be contentious or a lot of hard work. She thought it was great that he and Allie got along. He thought that a healthy relationship sounded appealing. She told him not to over-analyze things or put too much pressure on figuring out where he and Allie were headed. Noah appreciated the advice. He had a date with Allie tonight, and he was going to live in the moment. Sharon told Noah to talk with Nick about New Hope before his date. Noah was hesitant. Sharon said that this was going to eat away at Noah, and Nick deserved the truth.

Victor went to Newman Enterprises and found Adam staring at Victoria’s portrait. Victor asked what it would take to get Adam back at Newman. Adam said Victor could’ve kept him in this very office, but instead, he chose Victoria. Victor asked why Adam was here. Adam was there to talk to Victoria about Sally. Victor heard Adam ended things with Sally. Adam was sure Victor was thrilled about that. Adam even realized getting involved with Sally was a mistake. Victor thought that was a sudden realization. Adam just hoped the family would give Sally a chance to prove herself at Newman. Victor asked if Adam broke up with Sally so she could keep her position at Newman. He said no – he broke things off because they weren’t working out. He didn’t want Sally to be punished because of their personal relationship. It pained Victor that Adam was going to such great lengths to protect Sally, but he was willing to walk away from the family and the company. “Do you dislike us that much?,” Victor asked. Adam scoffed and said there was so much more going on besides hatred – there was devastation, humiliation and betrayal. He’d thought they’d finally turned a corner, but he was wrong. Victor said Adam could’ve had another place at Newman, since he wasn’t happy at Newman Media; all he had to do was be patient. Adam said he’d been more than patient, but Victor had been jerking him around like a puppet. Adam felt like a second class citizen in this family who wasn’t good enough to be a real Newman, so he was through. Victor was adamant that he’d had Adam’s back the whole time. It upset him that Adam didn’t feel like he belonged in this family. Adam was frustrated because Victor never listened. Adam thought Victor expected to get his way all the time and assumed Adam would bow down to his will.

Adam said the situation with Locke should’ve ended when they paid him off, but Victoria just had to get the money back as a way to kiss Victor’s ring. Victor didn’t understand why Adam had a problem with Victoria returning the money to the family. Adam said Victoria humiliated Ashland and she made sure his cancer deception was exposed on the podcast, destroying Ashland’s chances of ever doing business again. Victor thought Ashland deserved worse than he got. Adam said that wasn’t how you put someone in their place – it was how you motivated them to get revenge. Adam noted that Victor set Ashland up to get arrested for seeing his son. Victor was unapologetic about setting Ashland up. Adam said Ashland was out on bail and gunning for a fight. Victor asked if Adam had been talking to Ashland. Adam was frustrated that Victor was questioning him instead of thanking him for the head’s up. Victor wasn’t worried about a potential threat from Ashland. “Let that bastard try whatever he wants to,” Victor said. However, Victor was concerned about Adam. Adam said Victor shouldn’t worry about him. Victor told Adam to take some time to come to his senses and realize he belonged here with his family. Adam gave up on getting through to Victor and left.

At Society, Victoria found Nick’s suggestion that Adam broke up with Sally so she could keep her job hard to believe. Nick said he wasn’t nominating Adam for sainthood, but he’d done selfless things, like saving Faith’s life. Victoria didn’t forget that, but she said Adam had done egregious things that far outweighed a few acts of kindness. She wasn’t going to give him the benefit of the doubt while he was making big moves like threatening to leave the family and company for good. She wondered if he broke things off from Sally because he had something bigger planned. Nick asked if Victoria thought Adam was plotting revenge against them. She didn’t know, but she didn’t believe he was sincere about walking away from the company for good. She said even when Adam was trying to stay on the straight and narrow, he was like a dark cloud hanging over Newman, and that wouldn’t change.

Nick thought Adam made some significant strides with his relationships in the family. Victoria didn’t blame Adam for how he was, given what they learned about his childhood. She conceded he’d been on comparatively good behavior, but she didn’t trust his loyalty because he was constantly flip-flopping, and he had an intense competitive streak, a constant need for Victor’s approval, and got resentful whenever he was shunned. She said those character flaws had always remained. Nick didn’t disagree. She said that was why there was no place for Adam at the new Newman Enterprises. She said time would tell what his true intentions were. Nick said soon they’d find out if Sally deserved her spot. Victoria was just glad to have Nick on her side.

Adam walked in and invited himself to sit with his siblings. He said he went by the office hoping to hear what the decision was on Sally, but he ran into Victor, who was no help. Nick said that Sally would remain interim CEO. Victoria was surprised when Sally made an incredible case for himself. Adam said Sally was right for the job, and they would’ve regretted cutting her loose. Nick noted that Adam didn’t regret cutting Sally loose. He said he’d had some issues and he informed Sally it was over, and it was no one else’s business.

Adam thought it was vicious to have Ashland arrested just for seeing his son at the park. Victoria said she and Nick had nothing to do with that, although it sent a very clear message. Adam said no one thought about the consequences now that Ashland was released on bail. Nick thought Adam should be warning the person responsible. Adam said he told their dad, but he wasn’t fazed. Nick got the feeling Adam had recently spoken to Ashland. Adam said he visited Ashland at the GCAC recently. Adam had gone there hoping to find a man fired up about Newman Enterprises. “I was hoping that [Ashland] was concocting some kind of corporate maneuver that would hit Dad back. I just wanted to let him know that I would be more than happy to lend a hand,” Adam said. Victoria wasn’t surprised by Adam’s revelation. She wondered why he was telling them this, not that they’d believe a word that came out of his mouth. She was sure they’d find out his agenda eventually. He said his agenda came to a screeching halt when he found out Ashland was out for blood, not revenge.

Adam said Ashland had been stripped of everything that ever mattered to him, and he wasn’t ranting or making threats, but he was pretty messed up, and he’d trashed his hotel room. Victoria was shocked because even at his angriest, Ashland had never done anything like that. The look in Ashland’s eye when he talked about “Victor’s darling daughter” gave Adam the chills. Adam wasn’t certain what Ashland was planning, but he just wanted to warn Victoria. Nick said he appreciated Adam telling them. Adam knew he was the last person they’d trust, and his feelings about them hadn’t changed either, but he didn’t want anyone to get hurt. He left.

Victoria hated to admit it, but Adam’s concern seemed sincere. She wondered if Ashland really had gone off the rails. Nick thought that Victoria should move to the ranch for the time being. She dismissed that idea because she didn’t want Ashland having that power over her, and she didn’t think he’d actually get violent with her. Nick thought the destruction of the hotel room was a sign of violence. She agreed to think about moving to ranch, but she said she refused to let Ashland scare her. Noah called and asked to talk to Nick. They agreed to meet up. Nick wanted to drive Victoria to work, but she said she wanted to take a walk. He was frustrated, because they’d just talked about her taking extra precautions, but she reminded him that their dad had his security detail watching her.

Victoria strolled through the park while conducting a business call. After the call ended, she tensed up and quickly glanced around. No one else was in sight, but she still rushed out of the park. Ashland stepped out of hiding, and he had a icy glare on his face.

Nick met Noah at Crimson Lights. Noah took his dad out to patio for privacy and asked him to sit. Nick had a feeling he wasn’t going to like what he was about to hear.

Ashley met Allie at the Abbott house. Allie was excited because tomorrow was her first day actually working in the lab. Ashley loved Allie’s enthusiasm and said they were both comfortable in the lab, just like Keemo. Allie said it must be in the genes. Ashley asked how getting to know the family was going. Allie said it was going better than expected – she’d been nervous and scared when she first got here. Ashley was sure it must’ve been strange for Allie to find out she had this whole family and that Diane orchestrated whole thing. Allie said it was a bit mind blowing, but she’d be forever grateful to be in this big loving family that she never knew she had. Ashley said Allie was a gift to the family, but this whole situation had to be very overwhelming. Allie sensed that Ashley was really talking about Diane.

Allie said that Phyllis had approached her and questioned her about the family, then Diane went on a fishing expedition with Allie too, now Ashley was here talking about Diane. Allie understood how people felt about Diane, but she didn’t want to be involved. Ashley was sorry if she made Allie uncomfortable, but she said she and Phyllis understood how manipulative Diane was. Ashley thought Diane did a great thing connecting Allie to the family, but Diane had an ulterior motive, and she used Allie. Allie knew that. Ashley didn’t want to see Allie get used again. Ashley said Allie didn’t know her well, but her concern was genuine. Allie didn’t question that. It was important to Ashley that Allie have her eyes open where Diane was concerned, because as long as she was here, she’d continue to hurt their family. Ashley wanted to know how Allie felt, and she promised it wouldn’t affect their relationship at the lab. “Even though I may seem innocent or naive, I am anything but, and I won’t let anyone manipulate me. Not Diane, not Phyllis and not you,” Allie said, then she excused herself to get ready for her date with Noah.

Allie came back downstairs in a summer dress for her date, and Ashley said she looked gorgeous. Allie mentioned that they were going to the Athletic Club pool bar. Ashley said that was definitely the most LA lifestyle-like place Allie could find here in town. Allie said Noah was more into the nightlife than she was. Allie asked Ashley to forgive her if she sounded harsh earlier. Ashley didn’t want Allie to apologize for standing up for herself. Ashley said she respected strong independent women – it was a family trait. She thought it would serve Allie well if she was able to hold her own against the strong opinions of this town.

Jack ran into Phyllis in the park, and they had polite, but awkward small talk. He was going to be meeting with the Marchetti board of directors later. They’d flown in from Italy. She knew, because Summer had booked rooms for them at the hotel. He was about to leave, but she stopped him and said she wanted to talk to him about his sister. She mentioned that she knew he told Ashley what happened between him and Phyllis. Phyllis stated that Ashley understood her reaction to Diane. “Ashley and I are on the same side. That’s a first,” Phyllis said. Jack said Ashley always had a unique perspective. He thought that Ashley and Phyllis were both determined to see the worst in Diane. Phyllis noted that Jack respected Ashley, so she asked if Ashley’s opinion on Diane didn’t change his stance. Phyllis really wanted Jack to know that Diane was never more important than her feelings for him. Jack said he had to go to work, and he rushed off.

Phyllis went to work, and Lily was there at the hotel bar, waiting for her. Lily had an offer. She was sure Phyllis knew Devon recently sold the GCAC. Phyllis thought that was good, since Diane was now living there. Lily didn’t know Diane that well. Lily thought Chancellor Winters needed a trendy hotel in this town for the artists on Devon’s label to stay at. Phyllis was open to a partnership. She loved the idea of The Grand Phoenix being the exclusive hotel for Chancellor Winters VIPs. Lily clarified that she wanted to buy the hotel. Phyllis said the hotel was named for her – she was the phoenix rising from the ashes. This hotel was her chance to show the world she was a legitimate entrepreneur and her slap in the face to all the people who didn’t think she amounted to anything. Lily understood this was more than a business for Phyllis. Lily said Phyllis’s commitment and drive made this place what it was – one that would net a hefty price. Lily told Phyllis to imagine what she could do with the money – she could have a new chapter in her life. Phyllis said the hotel was her new chapter, and she wasn’t ready to step away. Lily handed Phyllis a proposal anyway.

Phyllis’s eyes bulged at the offer, but she turned it down because it wasn’t about the money. Lily told Phyllis to think it over. As she was leaving, Jack arrived. He wasn’t there to talk to Phyllis – the Marchetti board wanted to meet at the hotel restaurant instead of at Jabot. He asked for the private dining room, and she said she’d make sure his guests were comfortable. She asked if she could get some business advice from him, and he said yes. She showed him Lily’s proposal, and he said the price was significantly above market value. She said she loved running this place and proving to the whole world that she did something successful. She also had good memories here. He said there were good memories and some that weren’t so good. He thought that she had to make a decision, herself. She said if it weren’t for Summer, she’d take this offer. She didn’t feel like she belonged in this town anymore.

If you are trying to back me into a corner it is not going to work. Stay in Genoa City. Go. Keep the hotel. Sell it. It is none of my business,” Jack firmly stated. “So the fact that I love you – that doesn’t matter,” Phyllis said. He said that was everything. “I have never stopped loving you. Why do you think it hurts so damned much?,” he replied. He stormed off.

Nick: Thank you.

Victoria: I’m sorry, but you really can’t seriously be giving adam this much credit. You think that he broke up with sally so that we wouldn’t fire her?

Nick: I’m not nominating the guy for sainthood or anything close to that. I’m just saying, there have been some times in adam’s life where he’s been selfless, like when he saved faith’s life.

Victoria: Oh, believe me, I haven’t forgotten that, but adam has also done some extremely egregious things that far outweighs [Scoffs] A few acts of kindness. And I am not going to give him the benefit of the doubt while he’s making all of these big moves, like threatening that he’s going to walk away from newman enterprises and from us for good. Breaking things off with sally, it makes me wonder if maybe there’s something bigger going on here, something that he has planned.

Nick: Like what? Some revenge plot against us?

Victoria: I don’t know, but I’m not buying that he’s walking away from the company for good. Even when he says he’s trying to walk on the straight and narrow, adam is like a dark cloud hanging over newman. It’s his nature. And that’s never going to change.

Adam: [ Sighs ]

Victor: Son. Hope you had enough time to think about your decision to step away from newman.

Adam: I’m sorry, dad. That’s just not the case.

Victor: And I recall that you had done that before, you know? Then you eventually came back. What would it take to convince you to stay?

Sharon: So there’s something great that’s going on with you. Can I assume that it has something to do with the lovely allie?

Noah: What can possibly give you that idea?

Sharon: Oh, I don’t know. Maybe it’s the look on your face whenever you’re around her or talking about her. Let’s see, what’s the word I’m looking for? Oh, I know — happy.

Noah: That’s very funny. But, yeah, yeah, I like her. She’s cool, easy to hang out with.

Sharon: She kind of took you by surprise, didn’t she?

Noah: Yeah, I can’t remember ever feeling so comfortable and so relaxed with someone this quickly.

Sharon: Why do you make that sound like it’s a bad thing?

Noah: It isn’T. Just makes me wonder if this thing with allie could really go anywhere.

Ashley: Hi.

Allie: Hey.

Ashley: I hope I’m not interrupting.

Allie: Oh, not at all. I was just looking over my materials from the jabot orientation. I want to be fully prepped for my first day at the lab tomorrow.

Ashley: I love how enthusiastic you are, and I’m sure you’re going to be more than ready.

Allie: I cannot wait, ashley. I also love that you and i are both so at home in the lab, just like your dad.

Allie: It must be in the genes.

Ashley: I think it has to be. So how’s everything going with you, getting to know the family and everything?

Allie: It’s been wonderful, to say the least. Better than what I was expecting. Not that I was expecting anything bad or anything. I was just… god, I was so nervous when I first came here. I didn’t know how you guys would feel about me, how I feel about you, what I would say. It was pretty scary.

Ashley: Yeah, I bet.

Allie: Yeah.

Ashley: And strange, too. I mean, the way you met jack in L.A., Right? And you found out you got a grandfather, and then you have this whole family, and — and then on top of it all, you find out that diane orchestrated the entire thing.

Allie: Yeah. Yeah, it was a bit mind-blowing, but I will be forever grateful to be in this big, loving family that I never knew I had.

Ashley: Yeah, well, just so you know, you are the gift to us, and I mean that from my heart. But it had to be very overwhelming, and I’m sure that it still is because there’s so many intense dynamics, right? I mean, I can only imagine what you think of all that.

Allie: Why do I get the feeling that you’re really asking about diane?

Phyllis: Hey, jack. Hey.

Jack: Hey, uh… good to see you.

Phyllis: Yeah. You, too. You just taking a walk or going somewhere in particular?

Jack: I have a meeting later with some of the original marchetti board members. They just flew in from italy.

Phyllis: Ah, that’s right. Summer had me reserve some suites for them.

Jack: Right. Of course.

Phyllis: Well, I won’t keep you.

Jack: Well, have a nice day.

Phyllis: Yeah, you, too. You know what, jack? Wait a second. There is something I want to say.

Jack: About?

Phyllis: About your sister. Alice loves the scent of gain so much,

provided by…

Jack: You want to talk about my sister? Ashley or traci?

Phyllis: Ashley.

Jack: I hope you two didn’t have any kind of a run-in.

Phyllis: No, not at all. She told me that — that you told her about what happened between us.

Jack: You have an issue with my confiding in ashley?

Phyllis: Well, no. I mean, of course you talk to your sister. Of course you would, but… I just want you to know that she understands the way I reacted to diane.

Jack: She told you that?

Phyllis: Yeah. Ashley and I are on the same side. That’s a first.

Jack: Yeah, that is a surprise, but ashley has always had a distinctively unique perspective on things.

Phyllis: Okay, well, she sees diane the same way I do.

Jack: I think she’s as determined as you are to see the worst in diane.

Phyllis: Okay, but you respect ashley. You respect her opinion, right? Does her stance on diane not change your mind at all?

Jack: You keep trying to make this a referendum on diane.

Phyllis: Okay, because this is about my alleged unhappiness, right, which is impossible right now for me to disprove.

Jack: I was just suggesting it’s more about us.

Phyllis: Okay, yes, jack, I really, really want you to know that diane was never, ever more important than my feelings for you, ever.

Jack: You know what? I have to get to the office.

Nick: Adam has made some significant strides with some of the relationships in this family.

Victoria: Well, don’t get me wrong, nicholas. I don’t even blame adam for being the way that he is, given everything we’ve learned about his childhood. And, yes, he has been on comparatively good behavior. But that doesn’t mean that I can trust his loyalty, because it’s always flip-flopping back and forth, not to mention his intense competitive streak, his constant need for dad’s approval, his angry resentment every time he’s shunned. Those character flaws have always remained the same.

Nick: I can’t disagree with that.

Victoria: Which is why there is no room for him at the new newman enterprises. Time will tell what is true intentions are.

Nick: And very soon we’re going to see if sally deserves her spot.

Victoria: But one thing i already know [Sighs] Is that it feels so good and so right having you back by my side at newman.

Adam: Oh, so now you want to know what it would take to get me back, huh? You know, you could’ve kept me in this very office, but you chose victoria, so I don’t think there’s anything else to say on that subject.

Victor: So then why are you here?

Adam: Well, for starters, I wanted to finish my earlier conversation with victoria about sally.

Victor: Ooh, I understand you ended your relationship with her.

Adam: I don’t doubt that you are thrilled about that. And you’ll be even happier to learn that I realized getting involved with her was a mistake in the first place.

Victor: Oh, well, that’s a sudden realization.

Adam: I just hope that victoria and the rest of you will give her a chance to prove herself at newman now that she has no connection to me. You guys would be fools not to keep her on.

Victor: Let me ask you, did you end your relationship with her because you wanted to protect her position here at newman media?

Adam: Absolutely not. I ended things because it wasn’t working out. Never should’ve begun in the first place. I just — I don’t want to see her punished professionally because of our personal relationship.

Victor: Pains me to realize that you go to such great lengths to protect sally spectra, whatever her name is, and yet you’re willing to walk away from your family and from newman. Do you dislike us that much?

Adam: [ Exhales sharply ]

[ Sighs ] Hi, I’m karen.

Adam: There is so much more going on besides hatred. I mean, try devastation. Humiliation. Betrayal. Okay, dad? I thought things had been going quite well for us, and I thought we had finally turned a corner, but, unfortunately, I was wrong about that.

Victor: No, you weren’t wrong about that. I thought things were going very well, and you just would’ve had another place at newman since you were unhappy at newman media. All you had to do is be patient.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] I have been more than patient, dad… but you’ve just been jerking me around this whole time, like I’m your puppet, and I’ve been dancing as fast as I can whenever you pull the strings. So many times I’ve tried to break free, and I have been pulled back and shown once again that I’m a second-class citizen in this family. I’m never good enough to be a real newman. But you know what? Not anymore.

Victor: I’ve had your back for all this time. For you to feel this way, that you don’t belong to this family… …that upsets me.

Adam: Dad.

Victor: You’re my son.

Adam: Why don’t you ever listen? Good god, dad, you and everybody else, you are so used to getting your way. You just assume everybody’s supposed to sit here and take what you dish out, that I’m supposed to bow down to your will? Well, you know what? Some people have limits, and they’re not going to accept defeat and just go quietly into the night. Like ashland locke.

Victor: What the hell does ashland locke have to do with anything?

Adam: [ Sighs ] Because you all are in for a rude awakening.

Sharon: Help me connect the dots here, because I feel like I’m missing something. Obviously, you and allie are in the beginning stages of getting to know each other, and there’s no way of predicting how things will go with you two in the future, but… why are you already questioning whether or not you have a future?

Noah: ‘Cause I’ve never been with anyone like allie before. I’ve never had a relationship start like this. At first, we irritated each other. Then we became friends. It’s just, it’s not my usual thing.

Sharon: Oh, I get it. Since your first girlfriend, you have been attracted to a certain type of woman. Troublemakers, drama queens, women who were dragging around so much baggage that they were destined to break your heart for one reason or another.

Noah: Ah, well, gee, mom, thank you. And when you word it like that, it makes it sound like I sure can pick them.

Sharon: I’m not judging. I mean, look at my history. You were raised by two parents who share a complicated past, so maybe, on some level, a part of you decided that conflict in your relationship is normal, to be expected. But I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be that way. I would love to see you with somebody smart and kind and honest, who really appreciates you for who you are.

Noah: Like what you had with rey?

Sharon: Exactly. I just want you to embrace the idea that a loving, lasting relationship doesn’t have to be contentious or full of conflict. It doesn’t have to be that much hard work. Well, of course you do have to work at it. That’s true.

Noah: I get it, okay?

[ Chuckles ]

Sharon: Good. I hope you do, because it’s really great the way that you and allie get along. And wouldn’t you rather skip over all of the angst stuff this time around?

Noah: You know, I think I just might. A healthy relationship sounds — sounds appealing.

Sharon: Good answer.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Sharon: You know, I don’t want you to overanalyze things or put too much pressure on yourself trying to figure out where you two are headed. Everything’s so new right now. Just enjoy the moments together. That’s what really matters anyway. Does that sound okay with you?

Noah: Yeah, it’s more than okay.

Allie: I’ve been very popular lately.

Ashley: What do you mean?

Allie: Well, the other day, phyllis was asking me all kinds of questions about the family and jack and, well, about everything. And then, of course, diane came for her own fishing expedition. And now here you are, probing me about her.

Ashley: Yeah, I’m curious.

Allie: Look, I get that diane has a lot of enemies in town, and I also totally understand why you feel protective about jack and kyle and why you don’t trust her. But, ashley, I don’t want to be involved.

Ashley: I understand. And I’m sorry if I’ve made you feel uncomfortable, but you have to realize that phyllis and I know how incredibly manipulative diane is. I know that she did a great thing by connecting you with jack. It was wonderful. But she had an ulterior motive. She used you to get to jack to help her reunite with kyle.

Allie: And I am fully aware of that.

Ashley: It worked for her. Do you understand? And I know her. We have not seen the last of diane’s scheming, and I don’t want to see you get used like that again.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ]

Lily: Oh, phyllis, hello.

Phyllis: Hey.

Lily: I’ve actually been waiting for you.

Phyllis: Oh, have you?

Lily: Yes.

Phyllis: Does chancellor-winters need the ballroom for another event?

Lily: No. No, no, no. It’s actually something bigger than that — an offer that I hope you’ll be very interested in. (Kid 1) where’s lucky?

Adam: This whole saga with locke should’ve been over when we paid him off. But victoria, she just felt compelled to take things further. She just had to get the money back as her special way to kiss your ring.

Victor: I don’t understand you. You have a problem with victoria returning the money to her family?

Adam: But she felt the need to rub his face in his loss and humiliation. And if that wasn’t enough, she decided that his cancer deception needed to be outed via the podcast, just completely destroying the guy’s chances of ever doing business again.

Victor: That bastard deserves worse than that after what he has pulled.

Adam: That’s not how you put somebody in their place. That’s how you motivate them to seek retribution, dad. And now you are here, you’re praising victoria’s actions?

Victor: Yeah. Why wouldn’t I? He got what he deserved.

Adam: And you thought that would be the end of it, right? Till he came back to town and you thought you had to make one more move to contain him.

Victor: Right.

Adam: So you put him in his place by having him arrested. You knew he was going to see his son, so you set him up.

Victor: You bet I set him up. I had michael baldwin put out a restraining order that I knew the bastard would cross. Of course, he did.

Adam: Well, now he’s out on bail, and he’s gunning for a fight. Why wouldn’t he be?

Victor: How do you know all this? Were you talking to ashland locke?

Adam: That’s your response after everything I said? Questioning me? You should be thanking me for letting you know. But, hey, don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Victor: Do you think I’m even one iota impressed with a potential threat from ashland locke? Give me a break, son. Let that bastard try whatever he wants to. Came to the wrong address. I’m concerned about you, however.

Adam: Me? Oh, I’m the last person you should be worried about, dad.

Victor: [ Sighs ] Son… take some time off, come to your senses, and realize that this is where you belong. This is your family.

Adam: [ Sighs ] I just… I give up with you, dad. There’s no getting through to you. Ever.

Phyllis: What’s your offer?

Lily: Well, as you know, devon sold the gcac a while ago.

Phyllis: Mm, yeah, and right in time, diane jenkins has checked in to the athletic club.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Well, I don’t know her that well, but if devon had waited till after the merger, I would’ve told him to hold off and update the property.

Phyllis: Why is that?

Lily: Well, because I think that chancellor-winters needs an upscale, trendy hotel in this town, you know, one where devon’s artists, our musical artists, their entourage, a place where they can stay.

Phyllis: I love that.

Lily: Yeah.

Phyllis: I really do. I would love to partner with you on that. I mean, if we could come up with something that is, you know, satisfactory to both of us, some agreement that we like. But I would love the grand phoenix to be the exclusive hotel of chancellor-winters for all your vips and rock stars. In fact, you know what? We can come up with a rock-star version to the escape club.

Lily: I’m actually not looking for collaboration.

Phyllis: Okay, then what is this about?

Lily: I want to buy your hotel and make it a chancellor-winters property.

Phyllis: [ Chuckles ] You want to buy my hotel?

Lily: Look, I know this is a surprise. I know it is, but I’m just asking you to at least consider it.

Phyllis: I mean, you know why I call this the grand phoenix. It was my story. I am the phoenix rising from the ashes. I mean, it was my chance to show the world that I was a legitimate entrepreneur. I mean, it was my slap in the face to all the people here who didn’t think I amounted to anything.

Lily: Yeah, look, phyllis, i get it. I understand. I do. I know this is more than a business for you. I mean, your commitment and drive are what have made this place to be what it is. One that will get a pretty hefty price in a purchase. I mean, that’s legitimacy, too. And think about it. Think what you could do with the money. I mean, the freedom you would have. You could live your life any way that you want. You’ve already done so much with your career, right? You’ve been a webmaster, you’ve run a magazine, you’ve been an executive. I mean, this could be a new chapter in your life.

Phyllis: Well, the grand phoenix is my new chapter.

Lily: Yeah, but, I mean, this is a grind. This is hard work, you know? Wouldn’t you want a simpler life of luxury?

Phyllis: Well, I’m not ready to step away.

Lily: Well, maybe that’s ’cause you’ve never had any other option — until now. This is a proposal, okay, outlining an agreement with what I think is a more-than-generous bid.

Victoria: Who would’ve thought the silver lining to this whole mess would be you and me coming back to work together as a team?

Nick: Look, I know you’ve got big plans for the company, but can we just enjoy this moment right now before we got to jump right back into the fray?

Victoria: Oh. It looks like our break is already over.

Adam: I just came from the office. I was hoping to hear what the ultimate decision was about sally, but I ran into dad, who was no help whatsoever.

Nick: Well, you’ll be happy to know that we’ve decided sally’s going to remain as interim ceo of newman media.

Victoria: Yeah. Much to my surprise, she made an incredible case for herself.

Adam: Well, I’m sure she did because she’s the right person for the job. You guys would’ve regretted cutting her loose.

Nick: But you didn’T.

Adam: Well, as I mentioned earlier, sally and I, we were already having issues, or rather that i was having issues, and I informed her that it was over. Beyond that, it’s really nobody else’s business.

Nick: Seems like a touchy subject.

Adam: It is. So why don’t we just drop it? You don’t need to worry about my personal life. Right now, you should be worrying about the hell that is going to rain down on you. A lot of folks ask me why their dishwasher

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Ashley: I realize that you don’t know me very well, but I hope you can feel that my concern for you is genuine.

Allie: Ashley, I’m not questioning that at all.

Noah: Voil. All done. Perfect espressos on demand.

Sharon: Thanks. I owe you one.

Noah: Ah, we’ll call it even. I appreciated the advice. Came at a good time, too. Allie and I are going to the rooftop bar at the athletic club, and [Sighs] I’m just going to live in the moment and enjoy myself. You see how good I listen?

Sharon: Very wise. But do you have a little bit of time before your date?

Noah: Yeah, sure, you need help with something else?

Sharon: No, but I do have another piece of advice for you.

Noah: Okay.

Sharon: Before you meet allie, you need to call your father and talk about new hope. You have to tell him that you don’t want to stay.

Noah: Mom, look, I know, but —

Sharon: It’s just going to keep eating away at you until you do this. And he deserves to know the truth about how you feel. You can’t keep putting it off.

Adam: [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: Well, this is a very lucrative [Exhales slowly] Business offer. Wow. Very persuasive.

[ Chuckles ] This place is not about the money for me, so no is your answer.

Lily: Alright, alright. Well, listen, I hear you. I appreciate your feelings. I accept your answer for now, because I know that I sprung this on you out of the blue. But listen, please, just look it over. Think about it. Go through it thoroughly. Alright? Maybe you’ll change your mind.

Jack: Ladies, good to see you both.

Lily: Hello. You, too. I’d love to stay and chat, but i have to run, but catch up soon?

Jack: Yeah, I look forward to it.

Lily: Think about it.

Phyllis: [ Clears throat ] Is there more you wanted to talk to me about?

Jack: Please don’t read too much into my showing up. I got a call from the marchetti board asking that we meet here rather than at jabot. I think they want to talk over a meal. Their body clocks are a little thrown off by the time change.

Phyllis: Oh, okay. I —

Jack: So is the private dining room in the restaurant available?

Phyllis: It is. It is. I will double-check, but don’t worry about a thing. I’ll make sure all your guests are comfortable, and, you know… hey, you know what? There is something that I would like to run by you.

Jack: Oh, okay. Go ahead.

Phyllis: It’s lily. She just dropped a bomb on me and offered me this deal. I could use some business advice.

Jack: Okay. I have some time.

Adam: No matter how much you hate locke, having the guy arrested for simply seeing his son in the park is a vicious move.

Victoria: Nick and I had nothing to do with that. Although, it did send a very clear message.

Adam: Oh, he got the message, but apparently nobody decided to think about the consequences now that he’s been released, and he’s even angrier than he was before.

Nick: Well, I’m sure he knows we weren’t involved. Shouldn’t you be warning who was responsible?

Adam: [ Sighs ] I told dad, and he wasn’t fazed. He doesn’t let anything ashland do get under his skin. He doesn’t see the guy as a threat.

Nick: Well, you seem to know a lot about this. I’m assuming you’ve spoken to ashland.

Adam: That’s right.

Nick: When?

Adam: I paid him a visit not too long ago at the gcac, where he’s staying.

Nick: And why would you do that, adam?

Adam: I was hoping to find a man that was fired up about sabotaging newman enterprises. I was hoping that he was concocting some kind of corporate maneuver that would hit dad back. Just wanted to let him know that I would be more than happy to lend a hand.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] Of course you were. What makes me wonder right now is why you’re even saying this to us. Not that we believe one word that comes out of your mouth, but, please, go ahead, finish what you were telling us. I’m sure it won’t be a problem later to find out what your true agenda is.

Adam: Well, my agenda came to a screeching halt when I learned he isn’t interested in the company. He’s going in an entirely different direction. I think he’s out for more than just revenge. I think he’s out for blood. For copd,

Nick: What do you mean ashland’s out for blood?

Adam: Look, I don’t know for sure. It’s not like he just came right out and admitted it, but the man has been stripped of everything that has ever mattered to him. He wasn’t ranting, he wasn’t raving or making threats, but he’s pretty messed up. He completely trashed his hotel room.

Victoria: My gosh. Even at his angriest, he’s never done anything like that.

Adam: Yeah, and when he mentioned “victor’s darling daughter,” he had a look in his eye that gave me a chill.

Victoria: Think he’s coming for me?

Adam: Like I said, he wasn’t specific, so I’m not certain what he will do. I just felt like you should know so you can be on guard.

Nick: Well, thank you for telling us, adam. I really appreciate it.

Adam: Yeah. [ Sighs ] Look, I know I am the last person you would trust about anything, and my feelings about you haven’t changed, either, but whatever our issues are, I don’t want to see anybody get hurt.

Phyllis: Chancellor-winters wants to buy the grand phoenix.

Jack: Really? Wow.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm.

Jack: Lily is not messing around here. This is significantly above market value. If you’re willing to entertain this, I don’t think you’re going to get a better offer, but it has to be something that you would want.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] I love running this place. And it’s not just about that. It’s just proving to the whole world that I did something successful. Plus all the memories I have here.

Jack: Yeah, there are some good memories. Some, not so much. I don’t think I can help you with this. This is a highly personal decision only you can make.

Phyllis: Right. Well, if it weren’t for summer, I’d definitely take this offer. But I just don’t feel like i belong in genoa city anymore.

Nick: Yeah, you’ll have that by the end of the day. Alright, bye.

[ Sighs ]

Victoria: You know, I hate to admit it, but adam’s concerns seemed very sincere, so do you think that ashland really has gone off the rails?

Nick: Yeah, my gut tells me adam was being real. I really think you should move to the ranch for the time being.

Victoria: No, nicholas, I am not going to let ashland have that control over me. Besides, I can’t imagine him honestly trying to hurt me.

Nick: You heard adam. It sounds like ashland has gone over the edge.

Victoria: Well, he may be upset, but that doesn’t mean he’s dangerously violent.

Nick: Adam said he destroyed his hotel room. This is something we have to take seriously. Just move to the ranch for a little while so we keep an eye on you.

Victoria: Alright, I’ll think about it. But I refuse to let ashland scare me.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Nick: Sorry. Excuse me. Hey, noah, what’s up?

Noah: Hey, just wanted to see if you were free right now.

Nick: No, but I can be. What’s going on?

Noah: I was hoping we can talk. I’m at crimson lights.

Nick: Yeah, okay. I’m on my way. That was noah. He needs to see me. I’ll drop you at the office.

Victoria: You go ahead. It’s a beautiful day. I think I’m going to take a walk.

Noah: What did we just talk about?

Victoria: Nicholas, you know that dad has a security detail watching me. They’re never that far away. So if something crazy happens, I’ll just call them. I’ll be fine. You don’t have to worry about me, okay? With depression, you just feel…blah.

Ashley: You look gorgeous. I hope you and noah have a great time tonight.

Allie: Thank you, ashley.

Ashley: Where you guys going to go?

Allie: We are going to the gcac rooftop pool bar.

Ashley: Ooh, nice. Definitely the most L.A.-Style nightlife you’re going to find around here, okay?

Allie: Trust me, noah is definitely way more into the nightlife stuff than I will ever be, but it seems like a pretty awesome place.

Ashley: I think it’s awesome that you found somebody you like to spend time with.

Allie: Ashley, please forgive me if I sounded harsh earlier.

Ashley: Please don’t apologize to me. Are you kidding? You were standing up for yourself, and you should. I have nothing but respect for a strong, independent woman. It’s a family trait.

Allie: Good. I’m glad that you weren’t offended.

Ashley: Not at all. You know, there’s going to be so many people with so many opinions in this town, and you being able to hold your own against all of that is going to serve you very well.

Nick: Here I am, as promised. Our boy did not say you were going to be a part of this conversation.

Sharon: That’s because I’m not. This is between the two of you. Can I get you something to drink? Maybe espressos since noah just fixed the espresso machine for me?

Nick: I’m good. Thanks. What’s up?

Nick: Why don’t we take it out to the patio so we can talk in private?

[ Sighs ]

Nick: This is a patio talk?

Noah: Yeah.

Nick: Alright, come on.

Noah: Thanks for coming by so quickly. Why don’t you take a seat?

Nick: Whew! So this is the patio talk, and you want me to sit down? Whatever you’re about to tell me, I’m not going to like, am I?

Noah: [ Sighs ]

Jack: If you’re trying to back me into a corner, it’s not going to work. Keep the hotel. Sell it. Stay in genoa city. Go. It is none of my business.

Phyllis: Okay, so the fact that I love you, that doesn’t matter?

Jack: No, it is everything. That is the problem. I have never stopped loving you. Why do you think it hurts so damn much?

Victoria: That’s right. I think that we can lower the budget by at least 25% if we simplify the building design. No, no, I know, I hate losing the atrium, too, but it doesn’t bring any real value to the project. Nothing worthwhile, anyway. We’ll talk about it tomorrow. Okay. Bye.
