[ Sighs ] …I just hope trina and i can get through it. I’ve always admired portia and trina’s relationship, and, subconsciously, I always knew that if I was to establish a relationship with trina, that it would be secondary, right? There’s something about knowing she’s my daughter, that — that I’m her father, her biological father, that just — just makes it different. Yeah, I get that. I mean, before you found out portia is what connected you, now you and trina have your own connection, whether you and portia stay together or not. I sure hope we do. Good. I just — I really hope that trina and I can, you know, learn to be father and daughter, you know, no matter what. You will. How can you be so sure? Because I know you. And that gives me faith that things will work out. Yeah. You know, sometimes, sam, you just… it just — it feels like it takes a lifetime to get to know someone, right? And then you look back and you realize…

He really helped me understand the whole manpower end of things, like how much staff I’ll have to hire and what tasks I can give out to volunteers to handle. That’s great. Yeah, I mean, it’s a lot, but I think now that i understand what I’m up against, I don’t know, mom, I think I can pull this off. I know you can pull this off, and I’m very, very proud of you. This may come as a shock to you — oh, gosh. What? Go ahead. I’m proud of myself, too. Mm. Yeah, getting this shelter off the ground is going to be a lot of work. Way more than I ever imagined when I first came up with the idea. But I’m going to see this through right to the end. See, I knew if you found the right thing, that you would soar. Well, I don’t know if I’m soaring necessarily. I don’t even know if I’m on the runway. There’s just so much I don’t know. Okay, so what you don’t know, you’ll learn. And if it’s too much to learn — and it most likely will be — you’ll hire somebody that can advise you. I know this is going to be great. You can do this. Thank you. Ever since I came back to work here, everything’s been so busy, and the deceptor’s blowing up, and I just… I wanted to prove myself as an asset to this company. So you were, what, trying to learn about the deceptor? I-I wanted to familiarize myself with the product so that I could create a-a social media campaign, you know, to solidify the deceptor as the must-have item of the summer. Okay, then why all the secrecy? It wasn’t a secret, per se. I mean, maxie was swamped when she was called away from her desk, and I was just trying to be proactive, so I used her computer to download the files. Files on a shared drive that you had absolutely no access to! I-I didn’t put two and two together that the information was under lock and key. Do you know the two words “trade secret”? Trade secrets. That’s what it is. Do you know what would happen if our competitors got a hold of this information? We could kiss our cash cow bye-bye. Ms. Quartermaine, with all due respect, whatever your opinion may be, I am in love with one ms. Lucy coe. So, as regards to your other forward offer, I’m just gonna have to say thanks, but no thanks.

[ Laughs ] Somebody thinks very highly of himself. I’m offering you a business challenge, not a romantic one. Oh. Elq is a dumpster fire, and there’s nobody to put it out. With valentin gallivanting off god knows where, and my son…mia — why would you care? I mean, I was given to understand that you’d completely divested yourself of any interest in the company, so… I have no interest in taking a leadership position. But it is my family’s company, and the situation is precarious at best. Disastrous at worst. So, with the ceo and second-in-command out of commission, it occurs to me that the next obvious choice to run elq… is you. Rough day? Yeah. I could use a new top. Oh, um, I’ll relocate. [ Chuckles ] Well, nothing worse than break room small talk. Well, I think that book would scare everyone away. Worms and food — it’s quite the mix. You’re kidding. It’s been a minute since someone’s given me flowers. Uh…as promised, though, I-I did — I-I talked to violet, and — and she understands she can’t be playing matchmaker like that, so, uh, you can rest easy. There’ll be no more… romantic evenings, uh, for us in the future.

I don’t want to talk about all that right now. I want to talk about drew. I heard he reported to prison. Yeah, speaking of fun… well, sorry, that was a terrible segue, but I’ve been thinking about scout. How is she doing? Not good. I mean, she’s taking it really bad. Well, how could she not? Maybe I could take her to the movies this weekend. Some aunt molly time. Um, you know, that’s really sweet of you, moll, but you have so much going on. Maybe another time. Yeah, y-you’ve got a lot on your plate. More than most. And that’s when I usually neglect my personal life. And I’m not doing that anymore. I want to focus on the things that matter again. Marshall: Tj, I am so sorry. Yeah, me, too, man. I can’t imagine how hard it is for both of you. It’s clearly worse for molly. She feels like her body has betrayed her. And I get that. Molly and i cannot go on like this. The last thing we need, do you understand, is any of our numerous rivals — if they were to duplicate our design and poach our sales, do you get how serious this is? This is a horrible offense! [ Exhales deeply ] Brook lynn was just trying to do her job, okay? She started right before we launched the deceptor, and what a whirlwind, right? I mean, it was so successful that I’m sure none of us took the time to talk to her about how proprietary it was. I certainly didn’T. Okay, fine. Neither did I. But this is still a great, big problem. Do you understand? Look, I’m really, really sorry. If I knew what we were dealing with, I obviously would have asked for permission. I cannot stress enough the value of this product. That is why, remember, our lawyers said, “do not share this. Just keep this between the executives.” Only us. We have access. And the information needs to stay in the office. Copy that. That we can still start a family, that we have options. She just might not be ready to hear that right now. But she will be. I think the hardest part is that she is not acting like herself. In what way? She passed off one of her big cases to a colleague, and then this morning, she decided she didn’t want to go to work, so she called out. Oh, t, people do that. People do. Not molly.You’re both grieving, son. You’re both grieving. And grief could do a number on us all. Good thing, though, it’s fleeting. You know that old saying, uh, “time heals all wounds”? Well, it’s true. I would never tell molly how to deal with her grief or when I think she should be done with it, but I’m worried that it’s more than that, and ultimately, it’s gonna tear us apart. And the files are being retrieved as we speak, so the crisis has been averted.

I would be lying, you know, if I said I hadn’t thought about elizabeth. My take? Sure, why not? Whatever residual feelings you have for elizabeth, you should squash them now. Things got messy once before. You know what they say about history repeating itself. And do you really want to risk violet losing her aunt again? She’s already lost her mother. Hey. Where — wait.
