THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

Hey, Sweetness. Greetings from La La Land. You’re in Los Angeles? Well, well, did you find Jerry Prentiss? No, not yet. After John and I missed him at the bus terminal in Salem, we hopped on a plane, took a gamble that he might be headed here to resume his acting career. Well, that sounds like a good bet. Yeah, we’ll see.

Bus from Chicago should arrive any minute. Well, hopefully he’ll be on it and you’ll be able to ask him what he’s hiding about Abe. That’s the plan. Okay, keep me posted. Oh, and Steve. I love you. I love you too, baby.

Figured you could use this since you didn’t sleep on the flight. Well, I noticed you were wide awake too. Well, we’ll rest once we get some justice for our buddy. Chicago bus just arrived. Keep your eyes peeled for our man.

Oh.

Oh. Oh. Hey. I came to see how you’re doing. Very kind of you. Come in. Hey.

So, I, I know that was difficult for you yesterday, but you got through it. Did my best. Yeah. Paulina, I’m here for you, okay? We, we’re all here for you. Whatever you need. I appreciate that, but, uh, right now I’m so worried about Lonnie. She left, right? She went back to prison? No, she did not go back to prison.

What do you mean? I mean, as of right now, I have no idea where my daughter is.

Good morning, everyone. Oh, who’s ready for breakfast? What a glorious day, and what a glorious way to start our day with a heart healthy bowl of oatmeal. And you know, I always take good care. Take care of you, Abraham, my darling, darling husband. We are just, we’re so blessed. First, we had a visit from your loving son and, and now we get to spend time with our beautiful daughter.

Well,

shall we dig in? Bon Appetit, everyone. There you go. Isn’t this nice? Well… Eat up!

Like sand through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.

So, Lonnie is missing? That doesn’t make any sense. It sure doesn’t. I, I, I couldn’t imagine, you know. What could have happened to her? Okay, okay, why don’t you just walk me through it, okay? So you told me that she, that after the funeral she wanted to stay in the park alone, right? To gather her thoughts? Yeah, but she knew she couldn’t stay too long because Rafe was coming here to take her back to prison.

The last thing she said to me was, Don’t worry, I’ll be there in time, but she never showed. She’s been MIA all night. Okay. Okay, but we both know that she would never run. Oh, no, of course not, Lonnie. Lonnie would never do anything that would keep her away from her babies one minute longer than she needs to be.

So, did she try to call? She’s on furlough. Doesn’t have a phone. Oh, it’s just, it’s killing me to just sit here and wait. Oh, oh, Rafe said there’s no need to panic, but how can I not? Well, and I’m sure Rafe has every available officer out looking for her. No, it’s just him and Jada and Theo. Rafe doesn’t want to get the Salem PD involved because then they’d be obligated to report Lonnie missing.

Of course, of course, I see. Rafe promised me that he would find my daughter before anyone realized that she was gone. But why can’t three people search an entire town? Helena, I am sure they’re doing their damnedest, you know? You’re just gonna have to give it a little bit more time. There is no time. The prison called yesterday, asking where Lonnie was.

Rafe, he’s trying to solve him. He’s doing his best to get this solved before it does become a police matter.

Hey, thanks.

I just came by to pick up a few things from my office.

Any word on the search for Lonnie? Nothing yet. Oh,

God. It’s the U. S. Marshal. Again. When they didn’t return Lonnie to prison last night, they brought out the big guns. This guy’s been blowing up my phone ever since. I don’t know how much longer I can stall him. Yeah, kind of tough not being able to use the department’s resources. It is. If we make this official police business, then this marshal’s gonna know what’s going on.

Yeah, and then Lonnie will be considered a fugitive. There’s just no damn way she would’ve run. Then how do you explain her going missing? I’ve only got one explanation. She’s in serious trouble.

Wasn’t it so nice for our daughter to come and visit us all the way from Maryland after being released from prison? Oh, oh, but she’s refusing to eat just like she did when she was a baby. Look at you. You were so, so skinny. Well, Mama’s just gonna have to help you out the way she did when you were a baby.

So, here we go. Here comes the airplane. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. Look what you made your poor mother do. You are not my mother.

Hi. Hey. Come on in. I was just texting John. Yeah, I just got off the phone with Steve. It seems that he and John are in Los Angeles trying to intercept Jerry Prentiss at the bus station. Let’s hope they succeed.

Dammit. Guess we’re wrong about Prentiss heading to L. A. Not much chance we’re gonna find him now. Oh, God.

Jerry Paredes. Who wants to know? Two of Abraham Carver’s best friends.

What’s this all about? How’d you find me? You were in a big hurry to leave Salem, weren’t you Jerry? I needed to get out here for work. The reason you shot out of your window so fast is so we couldn’t question you about Abraham. I already told the police everything I know. No, not everything. You didn’t tell them you were hanging around outside Abe’s hospital room the day he disappeared.

That’s because I wasn’t. That’s not what our eyewitness says, punk. What eyewitness?

Nurse King said she saw this young man hanging around Abe’s hospital room. The day that Abe disappeared, right. And you know, right from the get go, John and Steve thought that the whole thing didn’t add up, what happened to Abe. We all felt that way. Yeah, so they decided to look at everything again, starting with Nurse King’s statement.

You know, the day of his funeral, they laid everything out at our house, and they were looking at it again when Chanel stopped by. She just wanted to get photos for Abe’s funeral, but she gave them some new information. What did she say? That Nurse King seemed very interested in Abe. Maybe even obsessed.

What does that mean? Well, she worked as a volunteer on his campaign. She was at the park the day that he and Paulina exchanged vows. She watched the whole thing. And then, when Abe passed away, she personally went to Pauline’s apartment to give her condolences. Well, all those, all those things individually aren’t a concern, but when you put them together…

Right. It certainly aroused Steve’s suspicion, so he came here yesterday to talk to her. Oh. And is that when she brought up Prentiss? Yeah. Uh, and then she took off looking for me to tender her resignation. She’s resigned? Yeah. I mean, it’s surprising, isn’t it? I mean, she’s worked here for 15 years. She was a stellar employee.

There was beautiful, glowing reviews of her. Did she get a job that was better for her somewhere else? I don’t think so. Then why would she leave? Well, she said that, um, she wanted a fresh start. And that Salem wasn’t the same since Abe died. Well, that’s true. Does it seem a little odd to you that she would resign?

Right around the time that he died? Well, that’s what I thought. But she really talked about him like they were friends. I mean, maybe they were closer and she knew him better than we think. Look, Abe has hosted a number of engagements over the last 15 years. I’ve never seen her in any, and I don’t think I’ve ever heard him mention her name.

You think we should be worried? Well, no, I’m not, I’m not sure. I don’t think… I

just remembered. I treated her. She was a patient of mine. Lonnie, I know you grew up thinking that my sister Tamara was your mama. But I’m the one that gave birth to you. You’re insane. Oh, please don’t be upset. I thought we moved past all of this, remember? You know how sorry I am that I kept that secret for so long.

Now the truth is out. The truth. None of this is even remotely true. Please. Remain calm. Your father is still recovering. Recovering. He would recover a lot faster if you would stop shooting him up with drugs, keeping him catatonic. I take excellent care of Abraham. You are holding him prisoner while the rest of his family thinks he’s dead.

Yeah, that’s right. I spoke to your sidekick, Jerry Prentiss, and he told me all about how you’ve been pretending to be Paulina. You are a liar and a fake and not a thing like my mother. Lonnie’s

in trouble. I can feel it in my bones. Like you said, she’d never run. So, where in God’s name is she? She

just lost her father. You know, maybe, the thought of immediately going back to prison was too much for her. Maybe she just wanted to take a little time Rafe.

I know, but sometimes when we’re grieving, we don’t think straight, and we just, we do something spur of the moment without even thinking it through. Um, Lonnie knows better than anyone what missing that deadline would mean for her future. And besides, Rafe vouched for her, and there’s no way he’d let her down like this.

No, if my daughter isn’t making contact, it’s because she can’t. Look, um, just because she hasn’t contacted you doesn’t necessarily mean there’s anything wrong. You know, I stayed up all night thinking of a scenario where, when Lonnie wasn’t either hurt or in harm’s way and I couldn’t, not a single one. If you think Lonnie’s in trouble, then maybe we should use the department’s help.

I am still holding out hope that there’s a reason that she has gone AWOL. I know we’re under the gun here, but I don’t want to risk it. I don’t want to add time to her sentence and keep her away from her kids. Well then, maybe we’ll just have to find her ourselves. Thank you. Thank you for everything. But I got this, alright?

So you go on home. Get some sleep. Okay. You couldn’t even tell me to take it easy when you were my boss. What makes you think you can do it as a civilian? I’m sorry, that wasn’t funny. No. No, no, no. No, it’s okay. Like I said, I don’t regret anything that I have done. And if I had the chance, if I could go back, I would do it all over again.

And after we find Lonnie, I would love to do it again and again. All the time. Reef Hernandez? Yes. I’m Sam Gerard, United States Marshal’s Office. I understand you have my prisoner, Lonnie Grant? So, where is she?

Did you hear me, Commissioner? Where is Lonnie Grant? Inspector Gerard. I’m Detective Hunter. Why don’t I get you some coffee? You told the Maryland warden that you would have the prisoner back in her cell by Lights Out. Lights Out was at 11 last night. I’ve been trying to reach you since then. Left several messages.

Yeah, I’m sorry about that. I’m Yeah, um So what happened? The acting? Mayor here recently relieved me of my duties, so things have been a little hectic around here. The terms of Lonnie Grant’s release clearly state that she is to return to prison immediately following her father’s funeral. She is in violation of those terms.

You need to turn her over. Yeah, I’m afraid I can’t do that. Why not? Because I don’t know where she is.

It seems as if our little girl is confused. So tell her, Abraham. Tell her who I am. Daddy, you don’t have to do anything she says. She’s crazy. Wow. Not only is Lani confused, but she’s also very disrespectful. So while you’re clarifying things for her, remind her of the Fifth Commandment. Thou shalt honor thy father and thy mother.

Look, I have utmost faith in Rafe. He’s going to find Lonnie, no doubt in my mind. I’m surprised to hear you say that. Why? Look, I know Rafe is a good man and he cares about me and my family. I do not question his character or integrity. But, his detective skills, um. Oh, what about them? I’m trying to find a way to put this delicately.

Forgive me. Okay. Well, I mean, don’t worry about that. Whatever it is you have to say, just say it. I just don’t understand how you can be so sure Rafe is going to find my daughter when he failed to find your son.

My son?

Oh, he went missing a while back and the police still haven’t found him. Am I right?

Yeah, yeah. You’re right. You’re right. They didn’t find him.

And I’m okay with that. Because I know with absolute certainty that he’s alive.

Let me let you in on a little secret, fellas. Whitley King is a liar. I’m not surprised you tried to throw me under the bus. Well, here’s our little secret. We’re going to throw you under a bus, literally, unless you start cooperating. Wait, wait, wait. Why would Nurse King say that she saw you outside Abe’s hospital room if she didn’t?

Why else? Because she’s trying to throw suspicion off of herself. I mean, hello? She works there. She knows exactly how to get a patient past the security cameras. So you’re going on record right now saying Nurse King kidnapped Abe. What possible motive would she have to do that? You’d have to ask her. But probably because she’s freaking nuts.

Hang on a second. Are you saying that she killed Abe too? No, no, no, no, no, no. Nobody killed Abe. Your friend is alive.

Whitley King was one of your patients? According to our file, we had several sessions.

Sessions in the fall of 2021. Well, that explains it. Yeah. That’s why I am only remembering it just now. In the fall of 2021, you were possessed.

Our girl’s got a bit of the devil in her, doesn’t she? Look at her. All that fire in her eyes. Untie me, you delusional bitch, and I’ll show you fire. Oh, my. Listen to that language. We raised her to be God fearing, humble, and honest. The only one not being honest here is you. Lord, give me the strength to hold my temper and my tongue while my husband tells her the truth.

Go ahead, honey. Tell her who I

am. I, uh, I don’t know. I, I don’t know who anyone is anymore.

Daddy. You are Abraham Carver. You are my father and my hero. You are the finest man I have ever known. Dad, I’m your daughter. Lonnie Price Grant. I am your family. This woman is not. She is not my mother and she is not your wife. She’s a crazy psychopath who kidnapped you. Enough! Enough! Enough! Don’t you say another word to him.

Don’t you say another word. As God is my witness, you will be so sorry.

Lying to a federal agent is a felony. I’d arrest you right now. But I have a prisoner to find. We want Lonnie found just as badly as you do. I really hope that’s true. What is that supposed to mean? Grant is a friend of yours, yes? Yeah, I don’t see how that’s relevant. Sometimes we do favors for our friends.

But I might remind you. That harboring a fugitive is also a felony. Lonnie is not a fugitive. She’s missing, okay? So you’re telling me she didn’t run? No, absolutely not. As you know, Lonnie is a model prisoner. She’s up for parole in six months. She’s got two kids back home who she’s dying to see. She would never do anything to jeopardize that.

She already has. And this department is, at best, indifferent to, and at worst, complicit in her escape. If you would just listen to You deliberately deceived the Maryland Department of Corrections and the United States Marshal Service. And you helped him do it. So now, I am going to use the full force of my agency to apprehend the fugitive and make her return to prison.

She’ll remain for a very long time. Okay, Inspector Giroir. Listen, before you make that call,

hear me out, okay? Lonnie used to be a cop. And just, just like the three of us, she risked her life to protect and to serve. She’s a convicted murderer. She killed a man who abused and terrorized her mother. And then Lonnie did the responsible thing and she turned herself in. Lonnie is a good person and a model citizen so I am sure that she has a damn good reason for not being here.

Yeah, Detective Hunter and I, we spent all last night looking for her. Not because we thought that she had fled, because we were worried about her. Worried that something horrible happened. So please, just will you help us find Lonnie before it’s too late.

I’ll make a call. And track Grant using her ankle bracelet. Thank you. If I get a location, we’re gonna head over there together. So I can take your friend to prison. Be

so sure your son is alive if the police can’t find him. They can’t find him. Because I hid him. After I found out that he had faked his own death, to frame Brady for his murder. Oh God. It’s a really long, upsetting story, and after I had heard the whole thing and I knew what he had done and why he did it, I realized that he needed serious help, so his father and I had him sent to a Private psychiatric facility in Europe.

Oh, Kate. I’m so sorry. I had no idea. No, I know. I know. And the only reason I’m telling you now is so that you’ll understand that I do know what you’re going through. When I thought Philip was dead, the pain that I felt, I know that’s the pain you’re feeling now. And I don’t want you to feel that way. I don’t want anyone to feel that way.

But, I have to face facts. What if Lonnie is Lonnie? Lonnie is smart. And Lonnie is strong. And she’s resilient. And I think she’s fine. I just pray that you’re right. I am right. Because God never gives us too much to handle. And you have had more than enough heartbreak for losing me.

Abe’s alive. You told the police that you saw him fall into the river. I lied. I know. To do something like that. Okay. Okay. Nurse King hired me to fake Abe’s death. Okay. I, I planted the blood and the house would bracelet at the docks blood. Where’d you get his blood from? Her, but, but don’t worry. Okay. He, he’s fine.

Oh, uh, relatively. I mean, she’s had him at her home on some pretty heavy sedatives. Oh my god, I’m gonna kill this guy. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. So listen, let me get this straight. This woman paid you to make us all believe that Abe is dead. Why would you sign on to something like that? I signed on to what I thought was an acting gig, okay?

She, she hired me to, to play Abe’s son while she played his wife. And, and, I, I, I thought it was helping him out. I thought it was some kind of like, Or, or, or whatever. And when you realized it wasn’t, you didn’t go to the police? I mean, I wanted to, but she said the, the cops would never take my word over hers.

And that I would go to prison. And, uh, I’m surprised you guys don’t know all of this. I, I told Abe’s daughter already. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. You talked to Lonnie? When? Uh, yesterday. Uh, when she came to question me. Lonnie’s not a cop anymore. Yeah, well, she, she came to my door, uh, wanting to talk about Abe.

Wait, and you told Lonnie that Whitley King was holding her father hostage at her apartment? Yeah, and she ran over there to save him.

Alrighty, I suppose breakfast is over. It’s time for Paulina to clean up. You are not Paulina! Your name is Whitley King. You’re a nurse at University Hospital. Do you hear me? You are Whitley King. You’re a nurse. You are not my mother and that is not your husband.

Oh my God.

Nurse King, she was one of the patients that I treated when I was possessed. I shudder to think what I would have said to her. It wasn’t you, Marlena. You could not beat yourself up for the things that you said and did during that time. Let’s

see. Oh, dear God. A poor woman. What a horrible way to lose the man you love. Carbon monoxide poisoning. From a malfunctioning… Space heater, he went to sleep and never woke up. Oh, she and her husband, they had three cats. They died too.

I’m Whitley Kane. Yes. And you need help. I’m afraid you’re confused again. I’m the one that helps people. I helped your father. You kidnapped him. No, no, I saved him. There was this man who hurt him and he wanted to hurt him again, so I saved him. I brought him here and, and, and been taking care of him. He’s getting better.

Oh, Abraham, tell her. Keep telling me. You keep telling me to tell her something. You keep saying you’re, you’re my wife. I don’t know. I don’t know who you are. Daddy, it’s okay. This is all going to be over soon. Okay? I’m going to take care of you. No! I’m the one who takes care of him! Please! Nurse King, listen to me.

I used to be a police officer here in Salem. And I have a lot of friends on the force. Including the commissioner. Okay? If you let us walk out of here, I will go straight down to the station and I will explain everything that happened. I will make sure that nothing bad happens to anyone. Okay? But you, you have to do your part.

You have to set us free. No. Never. No.

When Phillip went missing, I just… I went into a deep denial. You know, I refused to accept that he was gone. Until that became impossible. Why? How so? All of the evidence continued to mount. The trail of his blood leading down to the river. The bloody knife covered in Brady’s fingerprints that was found at the scene of the crime.

I mean, the police couldn’t find his body, but of course now, I know why. But when they found his prosthetic leg in the water, I had to accept the fact that my son is dead. Until I found out that wasn’t true, that he’s alive and…

What are you thinking? That your son’s case… It sounds a whole lot like what happened to my Abraham.

Nurse King, this has to end. No it doesn’t. Nobody knows you’re here. As I’ve said, they are out there looking for me. And not just the police, the FBI, the U. S. Marshals. What are you talking about? They let me out of prison to go to my father’s funeral. But I was supposed to be back yesterday. And by now, I’m sure that there is a full fledged manhunt.

And with all those officers out there, it is only a matter of time before they find me. How? How? How will they find you? I’m wearing an ankle monitor. They can track my exact location.

Everything was fine. You ruined everything. Your father and I were building a beautiful life together until you showed up. You have ruined everything. Miss King, please let us go. No. No, you shut up. I’m not listening to you anymore.

Nurse King confessed in therapy that she woke up one morning for her shift at the hospital and their apartment was freezing. They’ve been having some issues with the heat for a while. Her husband wasn’t feeling well that day, so he stayed home from work. She set him up on the couch along with her cats.

Cut out the new space heater she’d bought. It was a ventless gas heater. Apparently, there was some sort of a malfunction. And the first time Whitney told anyone the whole story was in the session with you. Yeah. She never admitted that to the police. She was too ashamed. She believed that the death of her husband and her pets was her fault.

Well, but the devil did nothing to disabuse her of that notion. I’m sure that’s true. Probably toyed with her. Used her guilt to torture her, made her suffer as much as he possibly could.

I told you everything I know. And if you have any more questions, talk to Nurse King. Can I, can I go now? No. You’re not going anywhere, punk. Because you have aided and abetted a kidnapping. If you come back to Salem with us, I’ll let Rafe know he needs to get over to Nurse King’s right away. Rafe’s not on the force anymore.

Slipped my mind. I need a call.

It’s Steve. I got a location on Grant. Let’s go.

I am begging you. Please don’t do this. This will all be so much easier if you just close your eyes and drift away. So you’re gonna kill me, huh? What do you think that’s gonna do to my father? Believe me, I, I didn’t wanna do this, but you left me with no choice. No, no, no, no.

Left a message for Jada. We can’t sit around here and wait for a call back. No, you need to get ahold of someone in Salem. Tell him that Abe is alive and being held against his will and already on it.

Alina. I was just trying to reassure you. I know, I know you didn’t mean to get my hopes up about Abe. But Kate, there are a number of similarities between his case and Phillip’s. Abraham’s hospital bracelet. was found on the docks along with his blood. So everyone just assumed he drowned. Yes, that’s true.

But a witness saw him fall into the water, but his body just like Phillips was never found. All I’m saying is, it’s not such a huge leap to think that if your son can be alive, then my husband could be too.

That woman was in so much pain and she never got the help that she needed. It says here that her biggest regret is that she wasn’t there when her husband died. That she never had a chance to say goodbye. I wonder if Abe’s death somehow triggered that guilt.

Well, I don’t know whether she will take my call or not, but I do think I need to reach out to her, make sure she’s okay.

Lonnie was right about one thing. We can’t go on like this.

We were so ready to start our new beautiful life together, taking the kiddies and all. Starting a new life filled with happiness and love.

Oh, you’re right. You’re right. It’d be so difficult, especially when everyone’s out there looking for you and learning about the truth of what I did. Just not ready to give you up yet. No, I’m not. I can’t. I just can’t.

This is where Lonnie’s monitor pinged. That’s where Rave fell in the water. Where is she? There! Lonnie! Lonnie, where are you? Lonnie?
