Summer: You have ruined everything for mom. If the police take this seriously, then they’re gonna look for her and if they find her, they’re gonna throw her in prison before she has a chance to clear herself.

Daniel: But on the flip side, diane will be out from underneath a murder wrap and she’ll be free to live her life again.

Summer: It’s not a fair trade.

Daniel: Is it fair for us to keep sitting on this secret? Is it fair to keep lying to kyle?

Summer: I don’t know. I wish that I had all the answers, but I don’T. I have been trying to get in touch with mom on the number that she used to set up that meeting with me. I’ve left her messages, I get no response. I’m worried that she already knows that you’ve told half of genoa city and you’ve scared her away.

Daniel: I have told the people that need to know in order to get her the help she needs to come home.

Summer: You keep telling yourself that. I’m gonna live in reality where you have just made everything worse.

Lily: Hey, stranger.

Daniel: Hey, when did you get back?

Lily: I just got back from the airport right now. Come here.

Lucy: Oh, welcome back, lily. Dad must’ve missed you.

[ Lily chuckling ]

Devon: Uh, it was nice of the nanny to be able to stay late so we can have some time together.

Abby: Yeah, I agree.

Devon: Uh-oh. I recognize that look and that tone of yours. What’s wrong with you?

[ Abby sighing ]

Abby: I’m looking forward to a relaxing evening, but something is bothering me, a lot.

Devon: What’s bothering you a lot?

Abby: It’s about my mom and your dad.

Devon: Okay. I know you’ve been worried about them for a while now.

Abby: But now, I’m worried that she’s thinking about marrying him.

Tucker: Sorry to put you on the spot like that.

Ashley: You’re not. I mean, you kind of are, but that’s okay.

Tucker: Well, you did proclaim your love for me in front of jack and diane, rather loudly in fact. And then you informed them of our engagement without warning me first. So, I thought I played along rather brilliantly.

Ashley: You were good.

Tucker: If I must say so myself.

Ashley: You were terrific.

Tucker: And I– I know for you it’s just an act, but are any of the emotions behind it real? Because I– I think I deserve to know where things stand.

Ashley: You’re right, you do. You deserve to know how I feel.

Christine: Hey, I just wrapped up in court when I got your text. Do you have good news for me?

Chance: These days, I don’t really know the difference between good news and bad news.

Christine: Okay. Well, let me rephrase the question. Do you have anything to bolster my case against diane?

Chance: The evidence I’ve seen actually points in the opposite direction.

Christine: Evidence? From jack? Well, I guess his phone call really got to you the other day.

Chance: I heard him out.

Christine: And?

Chance: Well, what he found isn’t enough to close the case, but it did confirm my hunch that there could be more to this.

Christine: As in phyllis is still alive, watching diane twist in the wind?

Chance: Look, christine, if there is something going on, I want to find it. Either way, we should put our doubts to rest, don’t you think? Or are you gonna convince me not to investigate?

Summer: Hi there.

Sharon: Hi, you. It’s good to see you. I’ve been thinking about you. How’s everything going?

Summer: Oh, you know, some good days, some bad days.

Sharon: Well, that’s to be expected. As long as you know that you have a very large and caring support group. There’s a lot of people who love you, summer.

Summer: I do know that, it’s the only way that I’m gonna get through any of this.

Sharon: Good. It’s important to remember. What can I get you?

Summer: Um, two large coffees and like a bag full of carbs, please.

[ Summer sighing ] What is it?

Sharon: Just the way you said a bag of carbs just now reminded me of phyllis. And that’s– it’s a good thing. You know, it may not seem like it yet, but eventually you’ll get to the place where you’re very grateful for all the ways that you’ve learned how to keep her memory alive.

Summer: Yeah, I know my mom isn’t fading away any time soon.

Phyllis: Okay, supergirl, your mom needs you.

Daniel: Not that I didn’t miss you.

Lucy: Oh, good one. Right answer, dad.

Lily: So your dad told me that you were back in town. Can I take you guys to dinner tonight, maybe?

Daniel: Uh, no, actually the kid here and I, we already have plans.

Lucy: Wait, you should totally come with us.

Lily: Okay. Where am I going?

[ Lucy and daniel laughing ]

Daniel: I promise you, you’re gonna remember that you already have plans when I tell you what it is.

Lily: Oh, is it that bad?

Daniel: It’s dinner at society with johnny, connor, chelsea, and billy.

Lily: Um, that’s random. How did that happen?

Daniel: That is a very good question.

Lucy: Wait, what am I missing here?

Daniel: I promise the three of us will all go to dinner real soon.

Lucy: Oh, dad, come on.

Lily: I would be honored to come.

Daniel: Well, that doesn’t sound like sarcasm.

Lily: Well, no, it’s not. I– I’ll go, I mean, we can all be adults, right? It’s fine.

Lucy: Wait, be adults about what? Someone tell the kid what’s going on.

Lily: It’s fine. I will fill you in when we are on our way there. Let’s go.

Christine: So this strand of long red hair that jack found, how are we supposed to know it came from stark’s motel room? Is there security footage to back him up?

Chance: No.

Christine: Cell phone video? Anything? Are we just supposed to take jack’s word for it?

Chance: I poked the same holes in jack’s story, but something’s not sitting right with me. I want to follow up on it. I want to check out the motel room myself.

[ Christine sighing ]

Christine: Well, look, chance I can’t tell you to walk away from this because you’re not my direct report. And, I’m not gonna try and talk you out of it because I know how you are.

Chance: What’s that? Pigheaded?

Christine: Uh, tenacious. But I do trust your instincts. Look, the new chief won’t be too pleased if he thinks you’re taking time away from other cases.

Chance: It’s not gonna happen. I’m not even on duty right now.

Christine: Okay. Yeah, I don’t need to know how you’re gonna go about it, just tell me whatever I need to know, if anything comes up.

Chance: You’ll be the first.

Ashley: Must have been very strange and very confusing to hear me speaking so passionately and loudly about our love and our bond. I’m sorry about that. And I’m sorry that I can’t tell you what you want to hear.

Tucker: I see.

[ Tucker sighing ] So, we’re still in the friend zone then?

Ashley: Well, obviously we’re more than friends.

Tucker: How much more?

Ashley: Well, I’m attracted to you. What? Well… I like spending time with you.

Tucker: That’s sweet. Is there anything else?

Ashley: Every day, I trust you a little bit more. Every day, I feel like my heart is opening up a little bit wider. But as far as telling you, I love you the way a wife should tell her husband that she loves him, I– I– you’re asking too much of me.

Abby: My uncle jack was already in a sour mood when I got there, and then I asked to see my mom and he told me that she was out with tucker and that they have some big news to share.

Devon: What kind of big news?

Abby: I don’t know. Maybe it has something to do with this fake engagement. That would explain my uncle jack’s irritation.

Devon: Yeah, I still don’t know what to make of that. It’s weird.

Abby: I do, it’s insane. She’s clearly lost her mind.

Devon: I don’t know if I’d go that far. Your mom’s one of the sharpest people I know. But if she’s starting to trust tucker, maybe he’s giving her a reason to.

Abby: Or maybe he has her fooled. Look, I want to think that he is a changed man, that he’s evolved. Not only for our sake, but especially for our son’S.

Devon: But you’re worried if we let him in our life–

Abby: That he’s gonna disappoint us again. And when he skips town, like he always does, dominic is gonna lose his grandfather.

Devon: Right. No, I thought about that a lot too. And honestly, I don’t know if I believe his retirement story.

Abby: What do you mean?

Devon: I don’t think he can do it.

Abby: Well, I mean, he doesn’t have to work. He has enough money after selling mccall.

Devon: It’s not about the money. I don’t know if he’s able to actually live life without having action in it. I don’t know if he’s capable of that. Like hell, he could have some corporate scheme going on right now that we don’t see coming. And your mom’s the key to it. With moderate to severe plaque psoriasis,

Sharon: Any time. Summer, wait, you have change.

Chance: Oh, whoa, whoa, easy.

Summer: Oh, my god. I’m so sorry.

Summer: No, it’s uh, it’s for my team at marchetti. I want to show them that I haven’t forgotten about them. Some things need to go back to normal. Um, has there been any news?

Chance: The investigation into your mother’s death has officially been closed.

Summer: Okay, but unofficially, things are happening?

Chance: I’m trying to make some progress today. If anything solid develops, we’ll talk.

Summer: What do you mean, by progress?

Chance: I’m turning over every stone. So, trust me.

Summer: Okay. So, I’ll just wait to hear from you.

Sharon: My heart really goes out to her. She and phyllis were so close. But what can I get for you?

Chance: I’ll just do the usual. Make it a large though.

Sharon: Sure. Um, but first, do I by any chance owe you a thank you?

Billy: This is perfect. I’ll sit over here by chels and then you two– you can put that away, huh. Thank you very much.

Daniel: Hey, hey, look who I found wandering the streets,

Chelsea: Lily, hi.

Lily: Hi, how are you?

Chelsea: I’m doing well. How are you?

Lily: I’m good. Got back from new york, but happy to be home. So, you don’t mind that I’m crashing your party, do you?

Billy: No, no, not at all. Happy for you to join.

Lily: Okay, good, ’cause I’m starving.

Chelsea: We’ll just get you another place setting.

Lily: Okay.

Billy: Yeah, that’ll be a lot of bodies around this table, but uh…

Daniel: Do you want to just push two of them together?

Billy: Yeah, let’s do that.

Johnny: Or we can have two separate tables, adults here, kids there.

Lucy: I love it.

Connor: Okay by me.

Billy: Okay then.

Lily: Okay, well, this is fun, right?

Abby: So this so-called engagement, you think it’s part of tucker’s plan?

Devon: I think that we should wait and see if they’re actually engaged because we’re just speculating at this point.

Abby: They live together. He’s already proposed. It doesn’t sound speculative to me.

Devon: I guess not.

Abby: So what if my mom accepts? Whether it’s to mess with diane or if it’s actually real. And then what? They get remarried and he’s in the perfect position to hurt her again?

Devon: I just– I– I don’t think she’s gonna let that happen, abby. And I thought that you were warming up to tucker after you guys danced together the other night.

Abby: I probably was. But hell, maybe that’s a part of this whole scheme. He’s charming. He gets you to let your guard down and that, that is when he strikes.

Devon: Right. Well, the only thing we’re gonna be able to do is wait and see what happens.

Abby: And wait, back to this whole retirement thing.

Devon: What?

Abby: I mean, you’re right, a guy like tucker, he doesn’t just sell his company and then walk away. What if he is gonna go after jabot again?

Devon: I mean, that sounds like something the old tucker would’ve done.

Abby: Exactly, yes. He has gone after jabot before and if that is what he is going after again, I am not gonna let that happen. I will crush him first.

Tucker: You really are my better angel, you know that?

Ashley: Please don’t go that far.

Tucker: No, I am going that far.

Ashley: Stop it.

Tucker: Don’T. I’m never gonna give up on you, on us, ever. I just wish that… I wish you could love me for who I am instead of what I could be.

Phyllis: Hey.

Summer: Oh, my goodness!

Phyllis: Baby girl, there you are.

[ Phyllis laughing ] My a1c was up here; now, it’s down with rybelsus.

Johnny: And they’re paying.

[ Kids laughing ]

Lily: Ooh, they have that parmesan crusted halibut that I like, I’m gonna get that.

Daniel: I am trying to decide between the steak frites and the paella.

Lily: Um, do the steak frites and then you can have your fries.

Daniel: Done. What about an appetizer? Should we, um, should we get an artichoke dip? Split it for the table?

Billy: I don’t know. What looks good?

Chelsea: Everything.

Billy: I know the feeling.

Lily: Oh, come on. You’re gonna get your favorite, the crab enchiladas.

Chelsea: That’s your favorite?

Billy: Yeah, it used to be.

Johnny: Okay. Three burgers, tots, onion rings, bucket.

Connor: Love it.

Lucy: Love it.

Chelsea: Oh, sorry. It took me so long to decide.

Lily: That’s okay.

Daniel: It’s fine.

Billy: So, how’s charlie in new york?

Lily: Um, he’s good. He’s really good.

Billy: That’s terrific.

Chelsea: Did you do any shopping while you were there?

Lily: I didn’T. I had meetings and, you know, hung out with charlie, so that’s it.

Billy: You see any shows?

Lily: No, it was a pretty quick, in-and-out trip.

Daniel: Well, that’s a shame. I heard they’re reviving sweeney todd. It’s always fun.

Lily: Oh, sounds fun.

Billy: Yeah. Maybe not for lily. She doesn’t like musicals much.

Lily: Well, I don’t know. I could make an exception for sondheim.

Daniel: Lady has taste.

[ Lily chuckling ]

Lucy: So lily gave me the lowdown on the way here, but I feel like I only got half the story.

Johnny: Okay. Well, um, so connor and I are brothers but our mom’s only raising him.

Lucy: And that’s chelsea?

Johnny: And I have a different mom who was married to billy, my dad, but then they got divorced. And now I live with her and my sister, katie.

Connor: His dad and lily were a couple, but now he’s dating my mom. Plus, I’m getting a new baby sister. My dad, adam, and his ex-girlfriend, sally, who’s now a couple with my uncle nick, which is messed up, but after a while, it’s like whatever.

Lucy: Most families I know are like this, all blended and mixed up. It’s kind of the way things are now.

Johnny: Facts.

Lucy: My bio mom was pretty messed up, so dad didn’t stay with her for too long, thank god. So, dad and heather raised me, but then they broke up and she and I live in portugal. So, I don’t get to see my dad all too often. See, we’re all kind of in this weird messed-up club.

Connor: That’s cool. So can you speak portuguese?

[ Lucy laughing ]

Chance: I’m not sure I understand. Uh, thank you for what?

Sharon: Well, I received this bottle of champagne. Um, kind of a cryptic note. No signature.

Chance: Oh, okay. That’s odd.

Sharon: Nick advised me to just get rid of it, but first I wanted to see if you had sent it, but it sounds like you did not.

Chance: No, I’m so sorry. I wish I could take credit for that. I’ll tell you though, once things cool down at work, I’ll send you five champagne bottles. We can toast with that, okay?

Sharon: I like that.

Chance: It is kind of creepy though, getting a gift anonymously like that. You want me to look into it? I am a detective.

Sharon: No, no, no, no, it’s, um, it’s fine. I’m sure it’s fine.

Chance: Okay. Well, I’ll tell you what, if anything else comes up that troubles you, you let me know and I’ll handle it. Right now though, I got to take off. I gotta follow up on this investigation.

Sharon: Understood. Um, don’t let me keep you. I’ll see you later?

Chance: Count on it.

Phyllis: Did anybody see you come up here?

Summer: No, I was very careful. Nobody followed me.

Phyllis: Okay.

Summer: How has nobody followed you?

Phyllis: Well, I mean, did you know it was me when I slipped the key card in your pocket?

Summer: When did you do that, by the way?

Phyllis: I followed you for blocks and then you stopped and you looked at those shoes in the window at memoirs. That’s when I did it.

Summer: I brought you food.

Phyllis: Oh, good.

Summer: I didn’t know if you had been hiding in an alley or eating out of a dumpster–

Phyllis: Eating out of a dumpster? My goodness, your mother is more resourceful than that. Plus, um, jeremy made sure that I was financially set up to– to go anywhere. You know, far away if I wanted.

Summer: Well, still… you know, mom, this is really risky. You being in genoa city like this with all the charges that you could be facing.

Phyllis: I know that. I can’t run. I can’t be away from you. I saw how much pain you were in. I can’t do that to you. Right. I mean, what kind of mother can leave her children?

Summer: It would be okay, you know. I really just want you to be safe, even if that meant that you had to disappear for a long time.

Phyllis: No, I’m not gonna do that. You know, you’re much more brave than I am. You know that? It killed me to be away from you and your brother. And let me tell you something, I will never ever abandon you two again.

Ashley: But for now, maybe we should just focus on our fake engagement. Yeah. I mean, I think we need to be convincing, right? Because clearly jack and diane are a little skeptical and I probably shouldn’t have blurted it out, but I got caught up in the moment. But now we have to prove that we’re serious and I have some thoughts.

Tucker: Such as?

Ashley: I think we should start some extravagant wedding planning, right? And talk about all of our plans ad nauseam in front of jack and diane, right? We can make little goo-goo eyes at each other and just, you know, do that whole thing.

Tucker: So what’s your definition of extravagant? Just so we’re on the same page.

Ashley: Want to get married in a castle? Right? That could be fun. We could just arrive in a horse-drawn carriage. You could be black tie, I’ll be in an elaborate wedding gown, some horrible gown. That’s it really. Because then we can also talk about our fantastic honeymoon. You want to go to copenhagen, the countryside, see the northern lights maybe?

Tucker: I wanna do anything you want to do. Really, I’m open to anything.

Ashley: You seem a little smug.

Tucker: No, I’m riveted.

Ashley: What are you riveted by?

Tucker: Riveted by you. You just put so much thought into it already. I know that you’re not– you’re not there in the, uh, in the love department yet. It just seems like there’s at least a part of you that wants it to be real.

Abby: I swear to god, if that man comes near my family’s company–

Devon: Babe, babe, don’t stress about something that hasn’t happened yet. I didn’t mean to get you all riled up about this. I really didn’T. Even though I love seeing your feisty side, along with all your other sides.

Abby: Nice try, but you’re not gonna flirt me out of worrying about my mother. If tucker is winning her over, if your instincts are correct, we have to do something to protect her, fast.

Devon: Okay. Well, I might just have a way to do that.

Summer: Mom, this feels so good. It’s so good to just catch up with you.

Phyllis: Yeah, it’s amazing.

[ Summer sighing ]

Summer: I have a lot that I need to tell you. It’s not good.

Phyllis: All right, let’s hear it.

[ Summer sighing ]

Summer: I told daniel the truth. I felt like I had to.

Phyllis: I know you did. I called him. I had to hear his voice.

Summer: He knew that that was you.

Phyllis: Yeah, he knew it was me. Um, he just kept on pleading with me not to be mad at you for telling him and, summer, how could I be mad at you? I put you in an impossible situation. But I needed to hear his voice. How is daniel? I miss him. I’m missing him. I just want to tell him I love him. That’s all.

Summer: I know, mom, but I guarantee you you’re not gonna like what he’s done.

Phyllis: Okay. What has he done?

Summer: You were right to be wary of confiding in him. He…

Phyllis: He told people I’m alive.

Summer: Yeah. He told jack, michael, kyle. Jack told christine. Christine told chance, diane knows, lucy knows. Mom, it’s out of control.

Phyllis: Christine and chance. Do they believe that I’m alive?

[ Chance kissing his teeth ]

Chelsea: With all the troubled kids and teens out there, a game like this seems like a natural fit.

Lily: Yeah. And I think we do a teen version at first, but then maybe have a module where there’s parental controls to make it for younger kids.

Billy: Well, all this shop talk has got me craving sugar. Who’s up for dessert?

Johnny: Imagine having an entire video game based on you. That is so cool.

Lucy: My dad was kind of in a slump, as an artist. So, I’m really glad he was able to pivot to this.

Johnny: My mom says pivot a lot.

Connor: So does mine. Is that something adults do? They just pivot all the time?

Johnny: Basically.

Lucy: For me, it was my boarding school teacher. It was pivot this, pivot that, all day long.

Johnny: Until your eyes glazed over.

Lucy: Totally.

Chelsea: Lucy is so charming. I’m sure it’s comforting having her here during such a difficult time.

Daniel: It’s always nice having her around, even without a death in the family.

Chelsea: Yeah. No, I– I– I imagine it would be.

Billy: Yeah, selfishly. I don’t like it when johnny and katie are far away, you know. It doesn’t feel right.

[ Kids laughing ]

Lily: Well, they seem to know what they’re doing. Maybe we should follow their lead?

Chelsea: Actually having fun?

Lily: Yeah, worth a try, right?

[ Kids laughing ]

Billy: Well, let’s get some dessert, huh? Nothing more fun than a slab of chocolate cake and four forks.

Daniel: I love cake, I’m in.

Lucy: My boarding school’s okay. I made some friends there, but for the most part, it’s kind of lame.

Connor: Mine had a gazillions of rules, who can remember them all?

Lucy: Did you get in trouble a lot?

Connor: Some, I was glad to come home.

Lucy: I’m sure.

Connor: Although, I got sent there because my parents needed me out the way.

Johnny: Same. They say it’s for continuity and stability. I mean, they’re not really wrong ’cause stuff at home can change every five minutes.

Lucy: You and katie went to boarding school too?

Johnny: Hasn’t everyone? But recently, my parents have been more interested in sending me to my grandparents’ house, so.

Connor: Mine too. I can always tell when they’re having issues based on how often I get dropped at the ranch.

Summer: That’s your only question? Mom, I thought that you were gonna be furious.

Phyllis: Well, I’m upset that daniel blabbed. Of course, I am, but what’s done is done. I mean, that’s why I didn’t tell daniel, by the way. Let me ask you something. Is there a full-blown manhunt for me?

Summer: Christine doesn’t believe that you’re actually alive.

Phyllis: Of course, she doesn’t because she’s overjoyed at the idea that I might be dead. Why look for me? I guess all the years of pain and hell that I put that bug through paid off.

Summer: But jack, kyle, and michael, they’re still determined to prove that you are alive.

Phyllis: Of course they are because for them, it’s not about me. It’s about her.

Summer: Yeah, if you’re alive then diane’s free.

[ Phyllis scoffing ] And what kind of milk?

Chelsea: It sounds like you were having fun.

Johnny: Oh, yeah, definitely.

Lucy: It was really great meeting you, johnny, connor.

Connor: You too. It was great.

Lily: We’ll have to do it again sometime.

Connor: That’d be awesome.

Chelsea: Sounds like a plan.

Johnny: Oh, can i have your phone so that we’ll have each other’s numbers?

Lucy: Yeah, totally.

Johnny: Great. Thank you. And it is done. Oh, we have to hang out while you’re still in town.

Billy: You ready to get going? School night, we should get back to mom. You, uh, you okay? You need a ride home.

Chelsea: Oh, thanks, but no, we’re good. It’s such a nice night, I think we’re gonna walk.

Billy: That sounds nice. Okay, I will talk to you later.

Lily: I have to meet devon at the lounge, but, um, thank you guys for letting me tag along.

Billy: Yeah, it was really nice to see you.

Johnny: Okay, we will be out front.

Lucy: Yeah. Good night everybody.

Lily: Good night.

Daniel: We’ll talk tomorrow.

Chelsea: Sounds like a plan.

Billy: See you later.

Chelsea: Okay, bye. Are you okay? It seemed like you were having fun. Did something happen?

Connor: It was fine. Can we go home now?

Billy: Nice to see you both.

Lily: Yeah, you too.

Daniel: This was a nice distraction.

Billy: I’m glad you have lily’s friendship, especially now during your time of loss. Okay. Good night.

Lily: Good night.

Daniel: Night.

Ashley: Well, clearly there’s a difference between fantasizing about a wedding and fantasizing about a wedding to you.

[ Tucker chuckling ]

Tucker: I see. So all these– these specific ideas you’ve envisioned, don’t include me standing next to you at the altar?

Ashley: I asked you to move in with me because I wanted things to work out. I think they’re kind of working out, don’t you? So it’s not outside the realm of possibility that the– the rest of it could work out.

Abby: So, what are you thinking? How do we get out in front of this?

Devon: I’m thinking that I simply get closer to tucker. And I build up our relationship because I know he’s been dying to have this father-son bond with me and maybe if we have it, he might slip and say something and I can figure out what’s really going on.

Abby: You would do that for me?

Devon: I’d do anything for you.

Abby: Hm. We really are family. You’re even worried about my mom.

Devon: She’s family, of course, I am. And I also, I’m worried about you. I don’t want to see you stressed like you’ve been. So, if there’s anything I can do to help, I’m gonna do it. And if it turns out that he is playing your mom or if he’s going after jabot, I can crush him and you won’t have to do anything.

Chance: Hey, it’s chancellor. Give me forensics. Hi, maggie, it’s chance. How you doing? Yeah. Good, good, good. I got a question for you. I know we can get fingerprints off of a paper, but what if the paper’s been sitting around in the garbage for a few weeks? Okay. Let me ask you something else. Can we get dna off of a tear stain? Really? Even if there’s mascara in it? Okay. I’ll see you in a bit.

Phyllis: Okay, so if the D.A. Doesn’t believe I’m alive, that buys me time.

Summer: Daniel did me one favor.

Victoria: Now that we’ve broken ground on the semiconductor plant in hai phong, I would love to end our relationship with our partners in shanghai. They’re more focused on performance instead of security. And I think that’s a mistake given the current market changes.

Nikki: I thought you might feel that way. I already have the contract under review, so we can consider our options.

Victoria: Oh, of course, you have.

[ Laughs ] So, where do we stand with the deal in dubai?

Nikki: We’re right where we need to be. We expect to close next week.

Victoria: Mom, why are you staring at me? Something wrong?

Nikki: I’m just wondering what’s giving you that glow?

Audra: I would’ve preferred to do this in my office.

Kyle: Harrison would be all over this camp maradona.

Summer: Isn’t that a soccer camp? Don’t you think he’s a little young for that?

She let nate and I know exactly what she thinks of us, and she broke her contract, which I am more than happy to let her do.

Nikki: Oh. Well, I’m glad it didn’t get too ugly.

Victoria: Mom, you have been very vocal about your disapproval of me and nate and how we got together. I’m not proud that we hurt elena. I’m noT. I– it weighs on me. The guilt, the sneaking around. I’m glad that she knows about it now so that she can move on and have time to heal. And now nate and I can– we can live our relationship out in the open. And yes. Yes, it feels wonderful.

Nikki: So, your glow is about nate.

Victoria: Yes, it’s about nate. He’s a real part of my life now. And you and dad and nick, you need to learn how to accept it.

Kyle: What are you sorry for?

Summer: This tension between us. I hate it. And it’s all my fault.

Kyle: I’ve been worried about you. The distance between us, I feel like I’m losing a little bit more of you every day.

Summer: You have done nothing but love me and I’ve treated you horribly. I’ve just been so furious at diane and… that’s spilled over to you. I was looking for answers to my mom’s death, and I thought that you were in denial. So, I shut you out to protect myself, to punish you. I don’t know, but it was wrong. And kyle, I’m– I’m so sorry.

Kyle: Not gonna lie, I felt like the enemy. It hurts, but I know you were hurting more. Your grief and anger. Summer, your mom is alive. You can let go of that pain now.

Summer: How do I do that? I know that my mom is… supposedly alive, but… that grief, it’s just turned into terror. I don’t know where she is. I don’t know if she’s okay. And if the police, they go looking for her and they find her… or what if they don’t?

Kyle: Hey, hey. Come here. I know what will help. Seeing your mom with your own two eyes, that she’s not only alive, but that she’s home and safe where she belongs. I promise I will make that happen.

Jack: Of course, you take tucker’s side. You don’t even know what’s going on here.

Ashley: I don’t like the way you’re talking to me. Now stop it. What’s happening?

Tucker: No, I’m good.

Ashley: Out with it.

Jack: Okay. I won’t even ask if you were trying to stage a coup at jabot. I already know the answer.

Ashley: I’m shocked it took billy so long to talk to you, frankly.

Jack: Oh, you are hereby on notice. If you have any intention of following through with your plans, you will fail miserably. You will have no standing. You will lose all credibility. Your reputation will be trashed.

Tucker: A coup?

Jack: Oh, yeah, like he’s not part of it. Ashley found jabot documents in your hotel room back when she knew who our real enemies were.

Ashley: You know very well tucker has nothing to do with this. The only enemy our family has is your fiancéE.

Jack: You leave diane out of this.

Ashley: It’s impossible. All roads lead back to diane.

Jack: This is about your anger.

Ashley: No, it’s about me trying to protect our family’s legacy, jack.

Jack: This is about your efforts to try to bring diane down.

Ashley: I will not let our company and our family be diane’s latest casualties. And that’s what’s gonna happen if you don’t wake up.

Jack: The only threat to this family right now is you.

Ashley: She’s gonna drag us all down, jack. I’m not gonna let it happen.

Diane: No more. This has to stop. She found it.

Audra: You look like you could use a drink.

Nate: Not a bad idea.

Audra: What’s going on?

Nate: Elena showed up at victoria’s office while I was there. That’s what’s going on.

Audra: Yeah. I thought that’s where she might be headed. Um, I ran into her at crimson lights. She was locked and loaded.

Nate: And you sent her in our direction?

Audra: No, I just listened.

[ Nate sighs ] No blood, no bruises. Couldn’t have been too bad.

Nate: Well, she ripped into victoria and me and quit the podcast.

Audra: All wrapped in her self-righteous, wronged-woman fury. You know some people will never understand how the world works.

Nate: I do feel bad about how it all went down, audra.

Audra: Okay, it’s over, nate. Stop beating yourself up.

Nate: Ah, it’s hard not to feel guilty. And it didn’t help that devon ran into me and he piled on.

Audra: I mean, you do know that when you screw people over, you don’t get to feel sorry for yourself when they dump on you.

Nate: I’m just tired of being judged.

Audra: Please tell me there’s more news in this pity party you’re throwing yourself.

Nate: There is. And it’s very encouraging.

Audra: Finally, the good part.

Nate: Nick and victoria recently got into it. Apparently nick’s worried that I’m using my relationship with her to gun for his job, or nikki’S.

Audra: Oh, kudos to nick for reading your final agenda. But I mean, he couldn’t be more wrong. You know, any fool can see that you actually have feelings for victoria, as much as it pains me. Uh, not because I’m interested anymore.

Nate: Hmm. Then what’s the problem?

Audra: Well, it makes you vulnerable. And emotions can really mess with your head. Get in the way of the best-laid plans and blow everything to hell.

Nate: Won’t happen. I’m an excellent multitasker.

Audra: And you have me to watch your back. Well, you know, I have to say, I was expecting bigger news than nick’s nervous. And I don’t see how it’s a good thing. You know, nick’s gonna be more protective of his position and his sister, and more suspicious of you. None of this works in our favor.

Nate: Uh-huh. Nick’s and victoria’s relationship is increasingly acrimonious. He attacks me, she defends me. After their latest battle, victoria made it a point to let me know that nick is afraid that I want his job. Well, I let it be known that I wasn’t averse to the idea of moving up, at some point. And victoria didn’t have a problem with it… at all.

Nikki: Victoria, it’s not that I disapprove of your relationship with nate. I am concerned.

Victoria: There’s nothing to be concerned about.

Nikki: All I want is your happiness.

Victoria: Well, then just be happy for me, mom. Look, could you please just be the one person who at least tries to understand? Dad has interrogated me. Nick won’t let up about nate being too ambitious, being a threat to newman enterprises, not being trustworthy enough. I don’t wanna hear it anymore.

Nikki: Well, those are valid concerns.

Victoria: But they don’t know nate the way that I do. He has this energy and this openness. I– I can be myself around him. He’s not gonna judge me. And we build each other up. We inspire each other. We are so in sync with each other.

Nikki: Darling, you have had that same synergy before.

Victoria: Do not mention ashland, mom, or J.T. Or my horrible taste in men. Because nick has been happy enough to remind me of that already.

Nikki: What ashland did to you was devastating. And it has been a long time before you would even consider a romantic relationship, that you could trust your feelings again.

[ Sighs ] This glow, the sparkle in your eye, if nate is responsible for that, well, your happiness is what’s most important to me.

Victoria: Then I have your blessing?

Nikki: I’m your mother. I will always look out for you. But maybe it’s time that I let you look out for yourself and trust your instincts, trust your heart.

Victoria: Do you really mean that?

Nikki: I do.

Victoria: Thank you. And I promise you, I’m not gonna push things with nate. We’re in a good place and I intend to keep things as they are for now.

Nikki: Well, I think that caution and moderation are always good things. So, I’ll get back to those contracts.

Victoria: Mom, thank you for your support. It means more to me than you know.

Nikki: Oh.

Summer: You’ve been so supportive, I– I don’t deserve it.

Kyle: You’re my wife. I love you. And it wasn’t that long ago that you were helping me deal with my mother coming back into my life. There were a lot of pieces to pick up and you helped put me back together.

[ Phone ringing ] Oh, um, I’ve been waiting on this call. It’s our leather factory in argentina. I just need to okay the new production line. It’ll only take a second. Hey. Everything is gonna work out. I promise.

Daniel: Hey.

Summer: I am so not in the mood for another argument.

Daniel: Well, then let’s not argue. We have to talk about mom.

[ Sighs ]

Summer: I’m all talked out. Especially with you.

Daniel: Being angry at each other isn’t gonna solve anything.

Summer: There’s a lot more to solve after you opened your mouth.

Kyle: Hey, look who I found.

Summer: Lucy, hey, it’s good to see you back in town.

Lucy: Yeah.

Summer: Are– are you okay?

Daniel: It’s all right.

Lucy: I heard about what happened. I’m really sorry for what phyllis and that creep stark did to your mom.

Diane: We cannot go on like this. The constant arguing and– and yelling, it’s not healthy.

Ashley: I’ve got a solution.

Jack: Diane is not going anywhere.

Diane: Jack, that’s enough. We have chased kyle and summer into the pool house. Allie’s moved in with noah. Traci has escaped to new york. This is not a home. It’s a battleground. So, for all of our sakes, could you maybe do us a favor and try to show a little mutual respect and con–

Ashley: Okay, this is really rich coming from you.

Jack: Ashley, I’m warning you.

Ashley: No, you don’t get to warn me and you don’t get to give me orders.

Jack: Oh, but it’s fine for your boyfriend here to give me orders in this house.

Ashley: You want peace, diane? Why don’t we have summer and kyle move back into their home? The one that you chased them out of. We’ll make some adjustments to your ankle monitor and you move into the pool house. You’ll be very comfortable there. It’s almost exactly the same as it was before you burned it down.

Jack: Is there no level you won’t stoop to?

Ashley: Just trying to protect my family, jack.

Jack: After coming and going from this house, sometimes for years, treating it as little more than your pied–terre, you now wanna command it as your territory? I don’t think so. While you have been off on your adventures abroad, I have been living in this house, managing and maintaining this house as a family home! Diane is more family than tucker will ever be. If you can’t comply with the rules, if you need to attack her constantly, I suggest you rethink your living arrangements.

Ashley: Tucker’s a part of this family.

Jack: The hell he is.

Ashley: Diane is your fiancéE. Tucker’s mine.

[ Diane scoffs ] Want luxury hair repair that doesn’t cost $50?

Jack: Wait, you’re engaged?

Diane: Since when?

Jack: Is this some kind of joke?

Ashley: Why would I joke about something as amazing and wonderful as being engaged to the man I love?

Diane: Well, the man you love looks as surprised as we are.

Tucker: That’s only because we weren’t planning on sharing the big news yet.

Ashley: Right.

Tucker: But I couldn’t be happier hearing the words out loud.

Jack: He just moved in. You didn’t want him living in your room.

Ashley: Well, we didn’t wanna rush things. But, you know, when it’s right, it’s right. And when you’re this happy, why wait?

Diane: Yeah. All this happiness, why– why keep it a secret?

Tucker: We didn’t wanna risk a public announcement ’cause it’s so easy to get poisoned at those things, you know?

Ashley: Yes.

Jack: Is this another one of your nasty, petty little games? Making a mockery of marriage and love.

Ashley: That’s offensive because our engagement is a testament to our love for each other and to change and forgiveness.

Kyle: I appreciate you saying that, lucy.

Lucy: Maybe I– I shouldn’t have said anything.

Summer: No, it’s fine.

Lucy: I miss phyllis. I really do. But faking her death and– and framing your mom for it, why would her and that stark guy do something so terrible?

Summer: A lot of people feel the same way.

Daniel: Hopefully we can get this resolved soon. Get her back here with us.

Kyle: Summer and I were just talking about how much she needs to see her mother face-to-face.

Daniel: Um, don’t you have a manicure at the spa, kiddo?

Lucy: I just– I saw uncle kyle and wanted to know if there was an update about phyllis. I’m really sorry there isn’T.

Kyle: So are we.

Daniel: Well, I mean, you better scoot if you don’t wanna be late. Kyle, would you mind showing her where the spa is?

Lucy: Dad, there are signs everywhere.

Kyle: Hey. You’re gonna deny me a few extra minutes of catching up?

Lucy: No. That– that would be nice.

Daniel: Let’s do it. I wanna hear about portugal.

[ Daniel sighs ]

Summer: You told lucy?

Daniel: What did you want me to do?

Summer: Wait until mom was back. I mean, god, daniel, what are you gonna do next? Take out a full page ad? Tell the whole world?

Daniel: When are you gonna accept that telling the truth is the right thing to do for our sake and mom’s?

Summer: Not if it lands her in prison or a life on the run forever looking over her shoulder.

Audra: This could be a positive development. Now, victoria obviously trusts you. The closer you get, the deeper her divide with nick. We can definitely use that. And it doesn’t hurt that she already has the idea of you moving up in the ranks.

Nate: I didn’t push. Just finessed it. Which is the key to getting what we want.

Audra: I should probably give you a heads-up. Um, I once told victoria I was interested in your job someday. And I wasn’t particularly shy about it.

Nate: She told me.

Audra: She did?

Nate: She actually warned me about you. That craven ambition of yours.

Audra: Well, I meant it as more of a compliment to you and how amazing you are and how you’ll probably be promoted or poached by another company.

Nate: And you’d be more than ready to step in. For the record, I told victoria I admired your ambition.

Audra: Hmm.

Nate: But let’s be clear about one thing moving forward– no unilateral moves. We’re a team now. So, either we’re in this together or not at all.

Audra: I’m very in.

Adam: Yeah, well, to be competitive, we need to shift that service to an ott platform. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Research on my desk by the end of the day. Okay, great. Thank you. Victoria.

Victoria: Dining alone again?

Adam: Um, it’s how I get the most work done.

Victoria: You must be very busy these days, especially given from what I understand, you think that newman media might be a threat to your new company.

Adam: Huh. Do you deny it?

Victoria: Oh, absolutely not. We are most definitely a threat to you. You didn’t live this strong, this long to get put

Nate: Newman media may be headed for a showdown with adam newman.

[ Clears throat ] You have spoken to our father.

Victoria: Yes. As a matter of fact, I have. And he made it very, very clear that you intend to come after newman media.

Adam: Ah. Well, that’s good he gave you advanced warning. That way it can be a fair fight.

Victoria: No, it was more along the lines of dad wanting me to take pity on you and your ramshackle company.

Adam: I think you know mccall’s potential. You were gonna buy it for yourself. So, you know the threat’s real.

Victoria: No, I walked away. It wasn’t worth it to me.

Adam: Yeah, you ran because you knew dad was gonna put me in charge of mccall and you didn’t want to give me the win.

Victoria: You know, it really is a pity that dad would spend so much money buying a company for you, just so that you can run it right into the ground.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] And yet here you are, you’re calling me out. So, maybe you… you are a little bit worried.

Victoria: This is an act of mercy. You’re my brother. Newman media is stronger. It is far more cutting-edge. It has the full backing of newman enterprises. Mccall unlimited is a sad, failed company that should have been sold and raided for its few lucrative divisions that it has left. So, you can go ahead and pound your chest about coming after newman media, but you’re gonna be spending most of your time keeping mccall off of life support while we roll over you on our way to greater success.

[ Adam scoffs ]

Summer: I’m not just gonna accept what you’ve done when you have ruined everything for mom. If the police take this seriously, then they’re gonna look for her. And if they find her, they’re gonna throw her in prison before she has a chance to clear herself.

Daniel: You know, on the flip side, diane will be out from underneath a murder rap and she’ll be free to live her life again.

Summer: It’s not a fair trade.

Daniel: Is it fair for us to keep sitting on the secret? Is it fair to keep lying to kyle and let him be upset that his mom might be facing life in prison?

Summer: No. I just wish–

[ Sighs ] I don’t know. I wish that I had all the answers, but I don’T. I have been trying to get in touch with mom on the number that she used to set up that meeting with me. And I– I’ve left her messages. I get no response, nothing. I’m worried that she already knows that you’ve told half of genoa city and you’ve scared her away.

Daniel: I have told the people that need to know in order to get her the help she needs to come home.

Summer: You keep telling yourself that. I’m gonna live in reality, where you have just made everything worse.

Kyle: Lucy’s all set.

[ Daniel sighs ]

Daniel: Thanks, man. I– I appreciate it.

Kyle: That’s what uncles are for.

Daniel: I gotta go do some work, but, um… we should talk again– soon.

Kyle: When are you gonna cut daniel a break?

Jack: So, now you wanna take the moral high ground, with tucker mccall, of all people. I can’t believe you would even think of marrying him. Everyone knows who he is.

Ashley: No. I know who he really is. The old tucker would’ve left when he realized things weren’t going the way he thought they would. But he chose to stay. And I’ve seen him fight for the relationship with his son. I’ve seen him fall in love with his grandson. I’ve seen him be vulnerable and loyal and honest. And he surprises me every day, in a good way, with all the effort he makes to do the right thing.

Jack: He is conning you, ashley.

Ashley: Stop right there. Tucker never faked his death. So, don’t judge him. And don’t judge me for loving him. Your obsession with diane is nothing but pure selfishness. You’ve turned your back on summer and her grief, you’ve turned your back on our company. You’ve turned your back on everyone and everything in your life so you can fixate on being diane’s hero. I don’t get it, but it’s not gonna end well. I’m ready to go if you are.

Tucker: Yes.

Jack: No, no, it’s these– these unrelenting attacks from ashley against you. I swear if I could throw her and that idiot mccall out of this house, I would.

Diane: Well, you can’t completely blame ashley. I mean, she doesn’t know that phyllis is alive. So, she looks at me and sees a murderer.

Jack: Wait, you’re actually defending ashley after the barrage she just fired at us?

Diane: No, no, but you have to be honest. Come on. Ashley wasn’t wrong about everything.

Ashley: Could you believe my brother? That sanctimonious, self-righteous hypocrite. I mean, at least I was able to wipe some of the smugness off his face. And what about diane? She had nothing to say. And you know why? Because I was speaking the truth and she knew it. And thank you, by the way, for defending me to jack.

Tucker: Sure. You know the best part for me? Part where we’re engaged. We are engaged, right?

Audra: Newman media going head to head with mccall? We’ll crush them.

Nate: That’s the plan.

Audra: Hmm. And I’m your secret weapon. You know, all those years I spent working with tucker, I know everything there is to know about mccall. The corporate culture, their strengths, their many, many weaknesses. Now, I’ll be aware of any back alley moves adam might make.

Nate: That will be helpful.

Audra: Mm. You know, this could also be long and drawn out. So, I like to focus on a faster timeline, you know, for our personal corporate ladders.

Nate: Hmm. I guess I’m the half of this team that understands patience.

Audra: Yeah, no, I’m more from the “move fast and break things” school of thought. So, how do we fast-track this?

Nate: We don’T.

Audra: I don’t understand.

Nate: Think about it, audra. It won’t be easy to oust nick and nikki from their positions. It will take time to do it right. And I intend to use that time to put in the work. Really dig deep. I wanna get a feel for the company, get to know victoria on a much deeper level. Earn her respect. I wanna be fully prepared to help newman enterprises when the time comes.

Audra: You know, there’s an awful lot of “I” in there for a man who just told me we’re a team.

Nate: If you need to feel like you’re already winning, maybe you should find a new game.

Summer: I’m sorry, but I– I don’t think that my brother deserves a break. He told you, jack, michael before he told his own sister that our mom had contacted him. He even tried to convince you to not tell me at all.

Kyle: He only wanted to–

Summer: To protect me? I’m so sick of hearing that. And why am I the only person that is concerned with protecting my mom?

Kyle: You’re not the only one who–

Summer: Well, it feels like that.

Kyle: Okay. What can I do to help?

Summer: I have to go.

Kyle: Summer, wait. When you apologized earlier, I thought we were good, a team again. So, what is going on?

Summer: I have to take this.

Kyle: No. What could possibly be more important than what we’re discussing right now? My husband and I have never been more active.

Adam: Victoria, I have always admired your confidence. But I look forward to proving you wrong.

Victoria: Oh, I look forward to the challenge as well. Actually, you know what? Challenge is too strong of a word. I look forward to the bump in the road that you will provide me.

Adam: I’m a bump?

Victoria: You’re a bump.

[ Exhales ]

Adam: Here’s a tip. Go ahead and underestimate me.

Victoria: I’ve already assessed the threat. You’re too emotional.

[ Adam scoffs ] Business and victory requires a very cool, calm head. But you, my brother, you run very, very hot. You’re gonna make a mistake. You’re gonna take mccall down with you because it’s personal for you. And that is always fatal.

Adam: It’s not personal for you.

Victoria: No, it’s not. It’s business for me.

Adam: Ooh. Emotional hothead as I am, I also was the ceo of newman media, so I know the company’s inner workings better than anyone. So, I’m prepared for what’s ahead.

Victoria: You know what? I almost like you right now. Who knows? Maybe this could be fun.

Adam: Hmm. Let the battle begin.

Summer: Kyle, this is work.

Kyle: It can wait.

Summer: Hello? Damn it!

Kyle: I gotta get to the office. See you later.

[ Sighs ]

Phyllis: Meet me in an hour. Location tbd.

Summer: Mom this had better be you.

Jack: I– I don’t wanna think that anything ashley says is true.

Diane: She was right about my past. Some of the choices I made, the terrible things I’ve done. No, ashley has every right to be angry and she might never get over it. But that doesn’t take away the importance of family. The one that you and I share with kyle and summer and harrison, allie. And the one you grew up in, which includes ashley. So, we do our best to love and protect each other. And sometimes it’s ugly. But one day we might really be one big happy family.

Jack: You are a marvel that you can find that kind of generosity of spirit for someone who has treated you so badly. It makes me love you all the more.

Diane: And I love you.

Ashley: I have to hand it to you. It was a brilliant idea you had to mess with jack and diane. Did you see his jaw drop?

Tucker: So, you stole a page from my playbook.

Ashley: I did. Thank you so much for the idea.

Tucker: Happy to help. But, uh, you said other stuff there, too. Was the rest of it also to mess with jack? The whole… “become your better self” challenge to me, is that a game? String me along a little bit, have a little fun.

Ashley: That doesn’t make any sense. Why would I ask you to move in with me if that was the case?

Tucker: I don’t know. Why would you?

Ashley: I see the good in you. I– I saw it the other night when you were spending time with devon and when you showed me those videos of dominic in music class. You know, I– I see the man that you could be and– and I– I– what? I care a lot about that man. I’ve grown to care so–

Tucker: That’s not the word that you used back at the house. You said you loved me. So, was that just for dramatic effect, or can you look me in the eye right now and say it again?

Abby: Our boy never ceases to amaze me. I mean, that look that he gets in his eye and then he busts out laughing, it’s like the most adorable laugh ever. It gets me every time.

Devon: It gets me the same too.

Abby: Well, you seem preoccupied. What is that? Work?

Devon: Uh, yeah, it is. I’m sorry. I’ve just been playing catch up with lily out of town visiting charlie in new york, so I’ve had more work on my plate, but it’s all good.

Abby: Oh. Well, I love that you’re excited to go back to chancellor-winters. I think it’s a blessing the way everything worked out.

Devon: What do you mean by that?

Abby: Well, you know, I know tucker’s on his best behavior right now, but I think it’s good that you didn’t buy his company and get wrapped up in him and mccall.

Devon: Yeah, I agree with you. I’m very happy that tucker’s company is someone else’s problem.

Nate: I dug up a little background on mccall’s subsidiaries. There are a lot of vulnerable, weak spots. We should be able to find something we could take advantage of.

Victoria: Well, I’m really impressed. I love a business partner who is proactive and takes initiative.

Nate: Well, thank you. But you deserve all the credit. You have a way of inspiring the best in me.

Nick: Sorry to interrupt. I need to speak with my sister, if that’s all right.

Audra: Tucker mccall.

Tucker: Audra freaking charles. How do you do?

[ Both laughing ]

Audra: Still in genoa city I see.

Tucker: Yeah. Surprised?

Audra: Well, you know, I heard you were sticking around despite your declaration that you were running off to greener pastures.

Tucker: As– as you said, genoa city does have its appeal.

Audra: I doubt it’s the town’s charm that kept you here. And I double doubt you decided to spend your newly rudderless, company-less existence playing pickleball.

Tucker: Don’t be so sure. I have a pretty good backhand.

Audra: Well, I can only assume the reason you’re here is because you’re still pining for the love of your life, ashley. And yet, um, where is she?

[ Tucker laughing ]

Tucker: You’re so funny. I can’t tell if you’re trying to convince me you’re not jealous and you’re actually are. Or you’re not jealous in the least, but you’d like to give me the impression that you’re covering intense jealousy.

Billy: So this textile company that victor signed over to marchetti is performing very well. Definitely helping out the bottom line. Kyle did a fantastic job getting that under the umbrella. Next would be the new line, jabot men’s grooming collection. It’s finally in production and pre-sales have been very promising. And, uh, I am talking to myself, aren’t I? Seem to be. Jack?

Jack: I’m sorry, what? What’d you say?

Billy: I said what’s the point in having coffee and talking about business when the only thought you have is on diane? Don’t tell me this is a permanent condition.

Jack: I apologize. I have been distracted lately, but we’re working on something that’s going to really help her case.

Billy: Help how?

Jack: I can’t get into the details right now, but suffice to say I am more hopeful than ever that we can clear diane’s name.

Billy: That is good news. I’m happy to hear that.

Jack: Which means I can officially get focused again on jabot. So, what can I take off your plate? What, uh, what’s the most important thing I need to know before I jump back in? Ashley might be planning a coup. Feeling sluggish or weighed down?

Devon: No, I don’t at all actually. The only regret I have is not having enough time to spend with you this morning before I go to work.

Abby: I know. And dominic, we have a very busy morning together and then I have to go to society, and you just said that you have to cover for lily at work, so.

Devon: I know. I do.

Abby: Okay. You cannot keep looking at me like that.

Devon: What’s gonna happen?

Abby: We’re not gonna get anything productive done today.

Devon: Well, we could actually be very productive, but it seems like you’re kicking me out. I guess the honeymoon phase is over, huh?

Abby: Oh, no, no, no, no.

Devon: No?

Abby: No. The honeymoon phase has just begun. Hm. That’s why I don’t feel bad about kicking you out ’cause we have so much time to make lots and lots and lots of love. But right now you gotta go.

Devon: I gotta go?

Abby: Yeah, you gotta go.

Devon: I’ll go. Bye.

Devon: I love you.

Devon: Love you more. Whoa. What’s with all these boxes in the hallway?

Abby: I have no idea.

Devon: Looks like nate and elena are moving.

Victoria: I think you should increase your marketing budget on those podcasts to maximize awareness and drive more audience interests.

Nate: Right. Sounds good. Well, if you’ll excuse me, I will get that in the works.

Nick: We need to talk about some budget issues with some of our newest acquisitions.

Victoria: Oh, really? Is that what you’re so anxious to discuss with me? The budget issues?

Nick: Yes, vic. Actually, that is why I’m here.

Victoria: Because I get the feeling that you actually want to turn this into another lecture.

Nick: Why? Because I just happen to walk in on you and nate yet again?

Victoria: Walk in? On what? Some chemistry? Oh, how dare we.

Nick: I didn’t say that.

Victoria: No, no, you don’t have to say much. You just glare at me and grit your teeth. You know, I’m actually impressed you were able to hold back for so long. You obviously didn’t hold your opinion back from dad. He was more than happy to interrogate me after you riled him all up.

Nick: Well, it’s not like mom wasn’t gonna tell him about it anyway. And what’s the deal? Is your new hot relationship with nate a big secret? Well, elena knows about it and she’s certainly not keeping it to herself.

Victoria: It’s not a secret. But I would’ve appreciated the opportunity to share the news myself instead of being blindsided by dad.

Nick: Okay. You have a point. Maybe I did speak out of turn, but my concern is for the company right now.

Victoria: Really? Well, then please explain to me again how it was perfectly fine for you to see sally while she was working here, but me seeing nate is somehow a recipe for disaster?

Nick: You just love bringing up sally, don’t you? Trying to compare what was happening with us and what is going on with you and nate. But you refuse to acknowledge one big difference.

Victoria: Oh, yeah? And what exactly is that?

Nick: Sally was never gunning for my job.

Audra: Are you suggesting that I’m jealous of what your puppy adoration of a woman who clearly doesn’t feel the same way about you?

Tucker: I’m afraid you’re not up to speed on current events, in that case. I’ve made quite a bit of progress in that department since you and I last spoke.

Audra: Have you now?

Tucker: Yes, I have. I live in the abbott house.

Audra: Uh…

Tucker: Yes. What you got to say now?

Audra: What’s rent like?

Tucker: Rent free, baby.

Audra: Oh.

Tucker: Yeah. Ashley said, “come in. Live with me.”

Audra: Wow.

Tucker: Yeah.

Audra: Unrequited co-habitation. Good for you, tucker.

Tucker: Speaking of unrequited, how are things going with nate? You still banging your head against that wall?

Audra: Actually, uh, things are going surprisingly well. You know, I’d hope for a bit more, um, entertainment, but that was at first. Now, the situation as it stands, could work out better than I planned.

Tucker: That’s a fantastic way to look at it. I’m surprised though because I know how much you like to be entertained. And you’re at your most productive when you’re mixing quite a bit of pleasure with your business.

Audra: Nope. I am keeping things strictly business. You know, nate is hungry, smart, decisive. He’s exactly the kind of partner that I need and want at this stage of my career. He’s the right ticket to get me where I wanna be.

Tucker: [Indistinct], Baby.

Audra: Hm. You know, as opposed to a man who’s only occasionally useful, mildly charming, but indecisive and weak willed and then lost everything he has in an embarrassing fashion.

Tucker: Maybe you’ve forgotten who you’re talking to here. And what kind of milk?

Jack: A coup. I cannot believe ashley is planning on making this move. It’s not possible.

Billy: I said might be planning a coup. And coup is my word, not hers. But I know she floated the idea of convening the board in order to take a certain action against you.

Jack: I know she’s upset about diane. I just never thought she would go so far as to make this move.

Billy: Jack, she’s concerned about the way diane has wormed her way back into your life in record time, despite a very checkered past. She’s concerned about the undue influence that your fiancée seems to have over you.

Jack: I– I thought her threats were just, you know, something she’d blurted out in the heat of the moment, an intimidating tactic she had no intention of following through.

Billy: I don’t know if she’s done anything yet. But I have heard rumblings that she is gathering the troops in order to vote against you.

Jack: How is she justifying this? On what grounds?

Billy: Your unwavering devotion to diane, jack. She sees it as a sign of weakness. You’re too invested. You’re too concerned about a woman who could potentially end up in jail for a very long time.

Jack: Okay. Why are you telling me this now? You have a position on this. You agree with ashley? You also think I should step down as jabot?

Audra: Perhaps I misspoke. Our past collaborations have proved to be beneficial for both of us. We both got something out of it, in and out of the bedroom. That’s why there’s no need for insults. And besides, I doubt you would’ve even put out with me if you didn’t see something in my capabilities and respect my ambition.

Tucker: That’s true. On both counts.

Audra: Mm.

Tucker: Wow. I guess this is a parting of the ways for you and me. I wish you well, really. Newman media and all else.

Audra: And I wish you well with ashley, I guess.

Tucker: Oh, uh, do you mind if I give you a friendly word of warning for old time sake?

Audra: Yeah, sure. Warn away, old friend.

Tucker: Don’t get too cocky. Your new partner and the former dr. Hastings has proven on more than one occasion he’s not above turning on those he’s closest to. He can be ruthless if he feels you’re no longer useful. I wouldn’t get in his way.

Devon: Sharon, how are you?

Sharon: I can’t complain.

Devon: Good.

Sharon: You want your usual?

Devon: Yes, please.

Sharon: Got it.

Devon: Thanks. Sharon, I’ll be right back.

Sharon: Oh, take your time.

Devon: Thanks. Hey, you. It’s good to see you.

Elena: Good to see you too.

Devon: I saw all these boxes outside your apartment. You and nate moving and not letting me know?

Elena: No, those were my boxes, devon. Not nate’S.

Devon: Ah, what did he do?

Elena: I found out that nate’s been sleeping with victoria.

Victoria: So let me get this straight. You think that nate is after your job and that’s what you’re so worried about?

Nick: I didn’t say he was going to succeed, but he might try. It’s been my concern ever since what he tried to pull at chancellor-winters. What makes you think he’s not gonna try and do the same thing here?

Victoria: And you’re so damn sure that nate is up to no good with– without any proof of your suspicions and your accusations?

Nick: What about his track record of deceit and lies?

Victoria: At his former company on our behalf. That’s no reason to hold a grudge.

Nick: I’ll tell you what, let’s bring elena in here and ask her what she thinks about what nate did and just for fun, we could also bring devon and lily too.

Victoria: This situation is very different.

Nick: How about the fact that he’s always in here having these little meetings with you? Don’t you think he should be getting stuff done in his own office?

Victoria: Oh, please. He reports to me. Why wouldn’t we be meeting?

Nick: He’s been making himself very familiar with every division of newman enterprises. It seems to me he should be focusing on his own division first and foremost.

Victoria: So now you wanna penalize the man for smart thinking and broadening his knowledge of our company. You know that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with looking for more synergy under the newman umbrella. In my book, he should be commended.

Nick: I cannot believe you cannot see this giant red flag waving right in your face. Vic, we have been here before.

Victoria: I already told our father that there would be no repeat of the ashland locke affair. So just drop it, nick. I’m in control. Just move on. Or the only person who’s gonna have a problem here is you. One prilosec otc each morning blocks

Devon: Nate and victoria are sleeping together. That’s something I didn’t see coming.

Elena: Well, I did. And I warned him that I was suspicious of her motives and he just kept repeatedly denying it.

Devon: I’m sorry. You certainly don’t deserve that. Are you okay?

Elena: I mean, it’s been rough, but it’s also been a long time coming. I just thought that he was gonna go back to being the man that I loved. I really believed he would change.

Devon: I mean, I always thought that if anyone could get nate to do the right thing, it was you.

Elena: Yeah. I gave him a chance to turn his life around and try to be the man that I thought he was and instead, he just threw that trust back in my face.

Devon: I don’t know what he was thinking.

Elena: He wasn’T.

Devon: He was obviously caught up in something.

Elena: Yeah. And her name is victoria.

[ Elena laughing ] I wasted a lot of time trying to think if he was mesmerized by the power or the sex. And then it occurred to me that it was probably all of it rolled into one. Power, money, success and a woman who has the same priorities.

Devon: I mean, whatever the case is, she’s clearly changed over the last year. And I know that I don’t have any room to judge anyone really, but I hope that you know that you are a whole lot better than him and this.

Elena: Thank you. I do know that. Honestly, I’m just relieved to finally be done with nate. He is swimming with sharks now. And believe me, he better be careful because the minute victoria smells blood in the water, she’s gonna eat him alive.

[ Nick sighing ]

Sharon: Nick, what’s up? I can tell you’re all wound up about something.

Nick: Yeah, but I don’t wanna talk about it.

Sharon: Okay. Well, I have something–

Nick: Thank you.

Sharon: I can talk about that might just put a smile on your face. I got to babysit little aria last night. She is such an adorable sweetheart. And we had fun just hanging out.

Nick: It is very hard for me to imagine you as someone’s grandma. You seem more like a cool aunt to me.

Sharon: Well, they can call me whatever they want. I was just so happy to have that little angel in my arms. And her real aunt faith can’t wait to come home and meet her in person.

Nick: Yeah, I talked to her. I hope she finishes up her work with her professor as fast as she can so she can come home for some much needed family time.

Sharon: Well, you won’t have to wait much longer. Our little girl will be here before you know it.

Nick: I hope so. Hey, what’s up with the, uh, the champagne? Are you turning this place into a bar? Because if so, pour me a drink. Sometimes coffee just isn’t enough.

Audra: Girl, I was just thinking about you.

Elena: Yeah. Why?

Audra: I can’t believe your ex.

Elena: Devon? He was just here.

Audra: No, no. The latest one. Okay. He’s just sitting there acting like nothing’s changed and it’s driving me crazy.

Elena: Well, what did you expect? That he was gonna walk in shouting from the rooftops that he’s sleeping with his boss?

Audra: I guess not. Besides, he and victoria still haven’t gone public and I’m keeping my mouth shut. For your sake, of course.

Elena: For my sake? Thank you, but… you don’t need to worry about me.

Audra: You know, I just thought you didn’t want people to know how badly nate treated you. You know, I have a feeling it’s only a matter of time before nate and victoria get careless and everyone figures out what’s going on with them. Look, I’m sorry, but this is just not a way to run a business.

Elena: I really don’t need to hear the gory details.

Audra: Of course, you don’T. Look, I’m sorry for going on like that when you’re probably more interested in, you know, thinking about payback. Or do you plan to just walk away and let them suffer no consequences?

Nate: Hey, man.

Devon: Hey.

Nate: Just wanted to say, uh, thanks again for including me in the celebration for neil. It was really something special.

Devon: Yeah, it was. It was. I wish elena could have been there. I just found out earlier why she wasn’T.

Nate: I was gonna tell you.

Devon: Oh, yeah? What were you gonna tell me? That you couldn’t help ruining the only good thing you had left going on in your life?

Nate: Believe me, I am not happy about our relationship ending either.

Devon: You’re not happy? What, did somebody force you to have sex with your boss?

[ Nate laughing ]

Nate: I hope you’re not about to lecture me from the glasshouse you live in. Because if I can recall correctly, amanda caught you cheating, right? Literally with your pants down.

Devon: Right. Do you recall correctly how you got elena? Neither one of us can judge each other, nate. It’s just– it’s clear that you’ve lost your way in life.

Nate: Uh-huh. And I guess your life is right on track.

Devon: A little more than yours. You’re obviously not the man you were a year ago. Or hell, maybe this is you. Maybe the real nate has finally been unleashed. If your moderate to severe crohn’s disease

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue. The last thing I want is you ousted from our family company. You have steered this company through some very troubled waters in the past and you always bring us out the other side.

Jack: I’d like to think so.

Billy: You’ve done a fantastic job. And I think our dad would be proud. Me personally, I am honored that I am here right now and able to take some of that pressure off you in a time like this. So no, I am not planning a coup of my own.

Jack: Thank you. That means a lot.

Billy: I think it’s important you know where our sister’s head is at. She is genuinely worried that if diane gets off and she is free, she’s going to want a piece of the jabot pie. And when you two get married, she believes that diane is gonna force you to give her a leadership position in our family company, jack.

Jack: Ashley is completely irrational where diane is concerned. And it’s absurd that she thinks that jabot is in jeopardy.

Billy: Damn straight. This company’s in good, strong hands. There’s no doubt about that.

Jack: Yeah, no small thanks to you. You’ve stepped up. You came through at a time we really needed you and I personally thank you and I want you to know I respect your leadership as well.

Billy: Thank you. That means a lot. And to be honest, I debated whether I should bring this ashley thing up or not.

Jack: You actually considered the possibility of letting ashley ambush me.

Billy: No, it’s not that, but I was worried that this was gonna turn into a shoot-the-messenger type situation. Because jack, you know, no offense here, but you’ve been a little over the top where diane is concerned and I’m wondering if you’re aware how this looks to the outside world.

Jack: And what do you mean by that?

Billy: Well, let’s talk about it. You professed your love and got engaged in a very public manner to a woman who was almost immediately charged with the murder of your ex-wife. It’s not hard to think how the rest of the world could look at that, especially where jabot is concerned.

Jack: Yeah, that does look strange. Um, thank you for your honesty. I hadn’t looked at it that way. But don’t worry, I will handle everything from here.

Elena: Are you asking if I want revenge on nate and victoria?

Audra: Uh, payback isn’t unheard of.

Elena: I mean, of course, I’ve thought about it.

Audra: Does that mean you’re thinking about bringing jt to town or do you have a brand new idea?

Elena: Oh, I have considered everything including sabotaging nate and victoria. But I don’t wanna waste my energy on something like that. The two of them will probably blow themselves up.

Audra: Hm.

Elena: They will hurt each other more than I ever could.

Audra: There you go. Let them have at it. Just sit back and have the last laugh. You know, if victoria wants nate she can have him, right? I mean, you did tell her off when you found them together in L.A., Didn’t you?

Elena: No, not really. She actually got outta there pretty quickly.

Audra: Coward.

Elena: But I did get a chance to throw a drink on nate.

Audra: Really?

Elena: Mm-hmm.

Audra: I’ve always wanted to do that. That must must have been so satisfying.

Elena: I don’t know. I don’t remember how I felt. It was all a blur. But I didn’t wanna make a scene in a busy restaurant. It’s not really my style.

Audra: I see. You were probably glad when victoria left so quickly, so.

Elena: Maybe, but I still have a lot to say to her.

Audra: Oh, well, you know, she’s probably in her office right now. Not a lot of people there.

Elena: Hm.

Nate: Think what you want to, devon, but deep down, I’m the same man I’ve always been. But you probably haven’t had the chance to know this since with you, it’s always been about you, your relationships, your inheritance, your company, your family, while I was always somewhere off on the sidelines. A convenient cousin. Someone to turn to when you needed medical advice. Someone you never accept or respect at chancellor-winters.

Devon: Hey, you went behind your family’s back to try and sell out our company to your new girlfriend. You’re still trying to make it about me?

Nate: I think you can shoulder some of that blame, don’t you?

Devon: I don’t at all. And I hope you enjoy climbing the corporate ladder ’cause it’s all you seem to care about these days. And I hope it keeps you warm at night, all right?

Nate: You know what, devon?

Devon: What?

Nate: I just had an epiphany. You never really knew me at all.

Nick: What’s up with the champagne? Are you celebrating something?

Sharon: Um, I wasn’t planning to. It just was delivered to me without a sender’s name. And then I forgot all about it because of my evening with aria. That just grabbed all of my attention. But I do know that the champagne is not from any of the kids or adam because I asked.

Nick: How about chance? I know you two are getting closer since he and abby broke up.

Sharon: Mm, I don’t think it was chance because he would’ve signed it instead of including the rather cryptic note that came with it.

Nick: What’d it say?

Sharon: “Memories are what life is made of.” I don’t think that sounds like chance.

Nick: Yeah, me either. I mean, it’s a serious gift. Really nice vintage. Is this like a smudge of paint or something?

Sharon: Um, I’m sure it came like that.

Nick: I hate to say it, but it kinda looks like blood. My a1c was up here; now, it’s down with rybelsus.

Nate: I see you’re alone.

Victoria: Yeah. Well, not anymore. Lucky me.

Nate: I think I’m the lucky one.

Victoria: I guess we both are.

Nate: Uh, what’s going on with nick? He seems tense around me. Increasingly so.

Victoria: No, he’s fine. I, you know, it– somehow, he’s gotten it into his head that you’re gunning for his job.

Nate: What? Wow. That’s quite a leap.

Victoria: Well.

Nate: Where in the world did he get an idea like that?

Victoria: Often, uh, my brother has a hard time getting past other people’s transgressions, even though he has had a few of his own.

Nate: I mean, haven’t we all? I’d like to think that our past mistakes wouldn’t be misunderstood or held against uS. But to be honest, uh, nick isn’t completely wrong. I can’t say that I hate the idea of rising to the top here someday. I can think of much worse things than working side by side with you.

[ Knock on the door ]

Victoria: Come in.

Elena: Would you look at this? The two of you together and you have clothes on. Special occasion? Sorry to crash the party, but this just couldn’t wait.

Sharon: You really think that’s blood?

Nick: I mean, probably not, but what do I know? I’m not a forensics expert.

Sharon: Well, what is it then?

Nick: Probably just like a red wine stain from the store it came from.

Sharon: Hm. Nope. I doubt it. The color is off for it to be a wine stain. Who sends a brand new expensive, but damaged, bottle as a gift and then doesn’t include a signature?

Nick: Did you call the store it came from? Maybe they have some information on the anonymous sender.

Sharon: There was no information about a store or a return address. No postage or shipping information either.

Nick: No mailing label?

Sharon: I mean, there was the delivery guy, but I didn’t even think to ask him anything.

Nick: Yeah, I don’t know, sharon. I mean, if I were you, I wouldn’t drink it, just to be sure.

Sharon: This is kinda weird, hasn’t it?

Abby: Billy, hi.

Billy: Hi.

Abby: It’s been so long.

Billy: I know. I’m a terrible uncle. Even worse great-uncle. How are you? How is that beautiful boy, dom?

Abby: Me and the little man are doing great. How are you?

Billy: Pretty good, you know? Right now, I’m just happy I’m not living at the abbott family house. I mean, a lot of drama, a lot of tension going on there.

Abby: I can only imagine. All of those people, with all of their own agendas living under the same roof.

Billy: Yeah. I’m actually worried about summer. It’s gotta be a lot for her.

Abby: Yeah, my heart breaks for her. Um, you know, actually there’s something I’m a little bit more worried about with that whole living situation.

Billy: What’s that?

Abby: I’m afraid that tucker is on his way to completely winning my mom back.

Jack: Ashley, get down here now. Where is ashley? Trying to control my asthma felt anything but normal.

Nate: Elena, um, what’s going on? Is there something I can do for you?

Elena: As a matter of fact, there is.

Nate: Okay. Uh, let’s go somewhere else and talk.

Victoria: Oh, let elena say what she came here to say.

Nate: All right. Um, floor is yours. You have our full attention.

Elena: Wow. You two are so in sync now. And you, the great victoria newman, ceo of one of the world’s largest corporations. You really didn’t think people would realize what’s been going on in this office? Or notice that you two shared a room in L.A.? No. Because it’s your dirty little secret and that’s what makes it exciting, right? Although, it’s pretty careless. Even your brother knows what’s up. And he is not the only one. Everyone is catching onto it. So this is the image you’re portraying to your staff and the rest of the world. How professional. You’re ruining your reputation for a tawdry, little affair.

Nate: Okay. Okay. Elena, that is enough. If that’s all you have to say–

Elena: Not by a long shot, nate. I came here to tell you that I am quitting the podcast. The contract I signed, you’ll be letting me out of it with no questions asked. And that non-compete, I don’t wanna hear any nonsense about that. Even though it probably won’t matter because I will be putting my full focus back on practicing medicine. You know, a career that actually changes lives, saves lives and doesn’t destroy them. A career that actually helps people and doesn’t just care about bank accounts. You know, I should have known you were a lost cause nate when you left medicine. You just couldn’t handle not being the rockstar surgeon, could ya? And you think your job, your position, your office, you think they really mean something? It just means that you’re pathetic. The both of you are so damned pathetic.

[ Door slamming ]

[ Nate exhaling ]

Tucker: You know, I always figured the manners in this place would be more gentile. Sometimes, it’s like a truck stop on a friday night around here.

Jack: I have zero tolerance for your snide remarks right now. Where the hell is my sister?

Tucker: I don’t know. And even if I did, I don’t think I’d tell you.

Jack: Oh, why is that?

Tucker: ‘Cause you seem quite upset. And I don’t know want you going after her.

Jack: Oh, so you’re her protector now?

Tucker: That’s right. Do you remember your warning to me, jack? Don’t hurt ashley. Well, that warning goes double for you. You understand?

Jack: Who the hell are you to give me orders in my house about my sister?

Tucker: Have you forgotten what I’m capable of, jack? You’re gonna back off ashley. You do not wanna make me your enemy.

Nick: Sharon, it’s not kind of weird. It’s definitely weird. Who sends an expensive bottle of champagne like that anonymously?

Sharon: Well, I’d be a shame to waste it.

Nick: I mean, most wine stores would have some kind of label or address. Maybe it fell off in transit or maybe somebody at the store just forgot to slap the sticker on it. I mean, you probably have nothing to worry about, but if I were you, I would err on the side of caution.

Sharon: It was kinda cute when I first got it and now, something seems weird about it.

Nick: Could it possibly be the bloodstain?

Sharon: You said it was wine!

Nick: It is. It is. Or it’s paint. I don’t know. Just go with your gut. The thing is, if it really bothers you, just get rid of it. Good luck. I gotta go. Thanks for the coffee.
