[ Dramatic music ]

Thomas: I mean it, hope. You gave me my life back. Another chance at my career. I’m so thankful for you, and you letting me come back here.

Hope: [ Laughs softly ] Well, I– I’m glad I put my faith in you, because look at what you’ve– you’ve done for me. My line is thriving, and giving you another chance at hope for the future is easily one of the best decisions I think I’ve– I’ve ever made.

Thomas: It’s not just hope for the future. You gave me another chance at my family. Another chance with happiness.

Taylor: Hey, brooke. I did something sneaky.

Brooke: Uh-oh. What?

Taylor: Well, um… I convinced thomas to give me early access to his latest designs.

Brooke: Oh! Okay. You’re taking advantage of your connection, I see.

Taylor: Yeah. You can get in on it, too, if you’d like. I mean, have you– have you– have you seen anything that they’ve– they’ve done?

Brooke: Oh, yeah. Yeah, some beautiful pieces.

Taylor: Feels really good, you know? That everything’s working out for them. Don’t you think?

Brooke: Uh, yeah. Yeah. I– I think so, yeah.

Liam: Now, go over to the second column. Yeah, do you see how some of those numbers don’t line up? Right, well, that’s what I want to get– uh, just take a look at this for me, and– and get back to me in the morning. Of course. Okay.

Bill: You don’t have to hang up. I could have waited or come back, whatever.

Liam: No, no, it’s fine. Also, that guy’s obnoxious. Um, what’s– what’s up?

Bill: Well, I’ve been reviewing some of the deals you oversaw while I was… preoccupied with sheila.

Liam: Okay.

Bill: We need to talk.

Liam: Uh, yeah. No, we can definitely talk. I just want you to know, I can explain–

Bill: You did a phenomenal job in my absence. Wyatt as well. You were both saddled with a lot while I was having to deal–

Liam: Being a hero? Saving all of us from sheila?

Bill: I just wanted my– my family to be safe. Speaking of family, how’s yours? How’s it going with hope?

Taylor: You know, for the first time in a long time, I finally feel like I have nothing to worry about. And I just jinxed myself, didn’t it?

Brooke: Yeah, well, there’s a lot to feel positive about these days, that’s for sure.

Taylor: Yeah! Ol’ nine-toe is behind bars. Rj’s home. Hope and thomas’s line is– is doing great. And, uh, best of all, you and I buried the hatchet. And not in each other’s backs. Things are finally looking up for the logans and the forresters.

Hope: Well, that’s very sweet of you to say, but, uh… another chance at happiness, that’s– that’s not on me. That’s on you. It’s all the hard work you’ve been– you’ve put into turning your life around, into becoming the man that you knew that you could be, and– and, I mean, you’ve done it. I mean, you’ve proved that you can be a, um, dedicated artist, a father, friend. And it is… it’s impressive. I mean, it’s– it’s made me see you in a whole new way. Looking for a smarter way to mop?

Brooke: I agree, things are looking up for our families. There’s a lot to be grateful for. I just hope it stays that way.

Taylor: Me, too.

[ Phone ringing ]

Taylor: Oh! Better get that. Hold on. Oh, yes. Um, hi, yes. This is dr. Hayes. Thank you. Thank you so much for calling me back. I, um…

Hope: But i have not made your mistakes. No. I have a good husband, and I have a great marriage. I’m nothing like you, mom.

Brooke: I’m gonna get him out of here, and away from you–

Hope: Mom, mom. It’s not thomas, it’s me. Okay? It’s my feelings for him, it’s not… him.

Brooke: What?

Hope: I don’t want anything to do with him.

Brooke: But you just said–

Hope: No, mom. You asked for the truth, and that’s it. Nothing can ever between me and thomas. Nothing ever will happen, and that’s the end of the story!

[ Brooke sighing ]

Brooke: Hope, what are you up to?

Bill: Well, it sounds like you’re surviving the whole thomas situation.

Liam: Yeah, tryin’. Heh.

Bill: Too bad you can’t have cameras on him like I did with sheila.

Liam: Oh, my god, tell me about it. I w– I wish, I wish I could just chaperone every moment that the two of them are alone together, but it’s f– it’s fine. I just– I– I just have to trust that hope will, you know, keep him in line. And I do. If he tried anything, she would tell me about it.

Bill: You sure about that? I mean, I’m just saying that it’s possible that hope is shielding you from some of thomas’s illicit behavior. Not because she’s being deceitful, but because she loves and cares about you, and wouldn’t want you to get upset.

Liam: Well, I wasn’t worried about that, but now I am, thanks.

Bill: Well…

Liam: No, I mean– truth is, hope and I have actually done a really good job of connecting lately. She’s b– she’s been really cool about, like, carving out time where it’s just the two of us. We’ve had some really good, really intimate conversations. And I feel like if there were something to open up about, she’d open up about it.

Bill: Okay. Well, I hope you were doing more than just talking when you dropped the kids off to me the other day.

Liam: I did say “intimate,” didn’t I? [ Clicks tongue ] Um, by the way, uh, thank you for having douglas and beth over.

Bill: You kidding me? You don’t have to thank me. Love spending time with my grandkids. Especially because I have time to make up for from the–

Liam: Right.

Bill: Anyway.

Liam: Yeah.

Bill: Um, I love hangin’ out with them.

Liam: Well, I love hangin’ out with my wife. Uh, which I don’t get to do very often because of circumstances lately, so I– I appreciate it. And, you know, any chance I’m gonna have where it’s just the two of us, I’m gonna jump right on it.

Bill: Good. You have to work on your relationship, and… not take it for granted. Especially now that thomas is back in the picture.

Thomas: You do see me in a new way, don’t you?

Hope: Without a doubt.

Thomas: Yeah. I can sense it. And feel it. It’s nice.

[ Chuckles ] It’s nice, gives us, uh, somethin’ to look forward to. Healthy future, right? One where we’re not chained by the mistakes of the past. Bad decisions and desires and stuff. It’s like we can look forward. I think that’s pretty beautiful. I do respect you. I need you to know that. You and the life that you built, the marriage you have, the family. Okay, I’m gonna get back to work, ’cause those designs aren’t gonna draw themselves.

Hope: Mm.

Thomas: Well, actually, with all the, uh, chatbots we have now, maybe there’ll be an ai that comes out and takes my job from me.

Hope: Ah.

[ Laughs ] Well, uh, even if the robots do take over, I guarantee you that none of them will bring the artistry to the designs like you do.

Thomas: Ah, I guess we’ll see.

Hope: Yeah.

Thomas: [ Chuckles ] Oh. Hey, brooke. Um… all right. I’m gonna get back to the salt mines.

Brooke: Your father used to say the same thing.

Thomas: Oh, yeah. Both got that from granddad. The og salt miner.

Brooke: Mm.

Hope: Mm.

Brooke: Interesting.

Hope: Well, he heard all those terrible things that I said about him, and I feel horrible.

Brooke: Does that mean he heard what you said before that? That you have feelings for him? Did he hear that, hope? What is it? What is going on with you? Sweet pillows of softness!

Liam: So, I appreciate your concern. I even agree with it, but I’m thinkin’ maybe, are we projecting, like, a little bit, ’cause you’re talkin’ about how important it is to connect with my wife, and how I should never take that relationship for granted? And I know you’re speaking from experience, so I– I gotta ask. How’s it goin’ with katie?

Bill: Well, uh, she is probably hanging out with carter as we speak, if that’s any indication.

Liam: Huh.

Bill: But I’m not giving up. I think katie feels… safe with carter. You know, he’s a– he’s a good guy. Sensible. But I know my katie, and deep down, she doesn’t want sensible.

Liam: Are you saying that, uh, you’re the not-sensible choice?

Bill: Uh… I am saying that I am katie’s person. The father of her child. And there is nothing more important to katie than family, as it is to me. So, carter can give it his best shot, but there’s no history there. And I have to believe that eventually, that will bring my katie back to me.

Liam: Right on. I mean, unfortunately, in my case, there is history between hope and thomas, and family, because they– they share a son.

Bill: And thomas will use that to get into hope’s head. So, you be aware of that. Don’t let him get to her. Liam. Promise me. You will keep your guard up where thomas is concerned.

Taylor: Sorry that took so long– hi!

Thomas: Oh, hey, mom you–

Taylor: Hey!

Thomas: Expecting someone else?

Taylor: Well, yes! I was just in here talking to brooke, and she was–

Thomas: Oh, okay, all right. Before we get into anything, I want you to know, honestly, it just– it wasn’t that big of a deal.

Taylor: Okay. I– I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Thomas: Wai– I’m sorry, I– I assumed that brooke would have told you.

Taylor: Told me… what?

Thomas: I, um– I overheard, uh, brooke and hope talking, and the things hope was saying about me. Wait, seriously, your– your new bff didn’t tell you anything?

Taylor: No. But you better.

[ Thomas chuckling ]

Brooke: Okay, well, did he overhear you say you have feelings for him?

Hope: No. No, I was– I was trying to convince him that I didn’t mean what I said, and that’s it, okay? There was nothing else that happened.

Brooke: Why would there be anything else that happened?

Hope: Oh, my gosh.

Brooke: Uh, okay. This is what concerns me. If you want something to happen…

Hope: Mom. There is nothing to be concerned about, okay?

Brooke: Hope! I can’t help it. Earlier, you told me that you had feelings for thomas.

Hope: I–

Brooke: And then you turned it around, you denied it, you said he’s manipulative and that you would never want anything to do with him. Were you just overcompensating when you said those harsh things about thomas? You didn’t live this strong, this long to get put

[ Liam laughing ]

Liam: Let– let my guard down around thomas? Never.

Bill: Good. Very impressed with you, son. The husband and father you’ve become. The businessman.

Liam: Oh, man. Well, you know, had a great role model.

Bill: Ah. That’s a bit of a stretch, but I’ll take the compliment.

Liam: Dad. You’re the man I’m trying to be.

Bill: Come here, give me a kiss.

[ Liam laughing ]

Bill: All right, a hug. Come here, come here.

Liam: All right.

Bill: There, I snuck it in.

Liam: Gah, you did. I love you.

Bill: It’s a mutual admiration society, liam. I love you, too. And if I’m ever lucky enough to call katie my– my wife again, I am going to try to emulate you. As a husband, and how protective you are. Stay vigilant, liam. You keep your eyes on thomas and any feelings he might have for your wife.

Taylor: Okay, so how did all of this come about? Were– were you eavesdropping?

Thomas: No. No, no, no. It’s nothing like that. I– I was walking into the office, and… I overheard what hope was saying.

Taylor: Honey, what was hope saying?

Thomas: She was saying how unstable and manipulative I am.

Taylor: What?

Thomas: And she wants nothing to do with me.

Taylor: Okay, this doesn’t make any sense. Why… why would hope say that?

Thomas: I– I don’t know. Look, I– I was– I was gonna pretend like I didn’t hear it, um, but then… when she saw me and I walked in the office, um, she could tell that I overheard, and, uh, so she kind of freaked out, and started apologizing.

Taylor: Okay. That’s good, I guess. I–

Thomas: Yeah. Look, I– I’m– I– I– heh. She actually– she actually took it all back. And– and she said she didn’t mean it, and that she actually said some really sweet things. She believes I have changed now.

Taylor: Okay, I– I– um, but why would she– why would she say all the negative things that–

Thomas: I– I don’t know, maybe– maybe it’s ’cause she was talking to her mom. Right? And… brooke– brooke is still concerned about hope and me working together, and maybe that was just her way of reassuring her.

Taylor: So, hope threw you under the bus for brooke’s sake? Wow. My– my friend. You know, earlier, she had every opportunity to tell me what was going on and she didn’T.

Brooke: Oh, my god. That’s what you were doing. Overcompensating. Trying to hide your real feelings.

Hope: Mom. Stop. Please. I wasn’t overcompensating, I was just, I don’t know, I– I just– I shouldn’t have said those things. But after all the hard work that thomas has done to turn his life around, for him to overhear that? That hurt him.

Brooke: Did it? Or did he just want you to think it did?

Hope: What?

Brooke: Honey. He didn’t seem hurt at all when I came in here. You guys were laughing, and joking, and you had a connection going.

Hope: That’s because I did a little bit of damage control, mom. I tried to reassure him that I didn’t mean it.

Brooke: Mm. Okay. All of this sounds like a manipulation to me. It’s like the same old thomas. Liam was right. He’s just using this to get close to you.

Hope: Oh, my god, that is not who he is anymore.

Brooke: How can you be so sure?

Hope: Because I am, mom! You should have seen him when he walked in here. He was– he was genuinely hurt, okay? His reaction… look, anyone would be hurt in this scenario.

Brooke: Okay. Well, you said those things for a reason. I just wish I knew what they were.

Hope: Gosh, mom. Stop.

Brooke: Honey. You’ve been acting so differently lately. Coming to me and bringing up my past, and saying you don’t want to be like me.

Hope: And I– I apologized.

Brooke: I don’t need your apology. I just need to get to the bottom of this. You know right from wrong. You never wanted to be like me, ’cause you didn’t want to make the same mistakes that I made, and I understand that. But here you are, saying that you have feelings for thomas, and then you turn around and you deny it. Saying you don’t want to have anything to do with him. So, what is it, hope? And please, please don’t tell me you’re having feelings for thomas.
