Interview with TCA panel Zahn McClarnon, Kiowa Gordon, Jessica Matten, Rainn Wilson, Noah Emmerich, Chris Eyre and Graham Roland of “Dark Winds” on AMC/+ by Suzanne 2/10/22

“Dark Winds” premieres today, June 12 on AMC and AMC+. I’m most interested in its star, Zahn McClarnon (who plays Joe Leaphorn), because he was so great on “Longmire,” a show I loved. Noah Emmerich is also great (you might know him from “The Americans” on FX); and, last, but certainly not least, the cast also has Rainn Wilson, who’s always wonderful. This was a fun virtual panel back in February for the TV Critics Association.

Here is the introduction from the clip they showed us:

Our new series “Dark Winds” is 35 years in the making. It’s based on the popular Leaphorn & Chee Book Series by Tony Hillerman. Robert Redford optioned these books more than three decades ago and we’re honored that this remarkable series has found a home with us. Our dream team is comprised of Native American Director and Executive Producer Chris Eyre, Native American Actor and Executive Producer Zahn McClarnon, who also starred in AMC’s “The Son,” Native American Writer-Creator Graham Roland, and Redford as well as George R.R. Martin who also serve as Executive Producers. We’re proud of this show for so many reasons. For starters, Leaphorn & Chee are two iconic characters that will live right alongside Don Draper, Walter White, Rick Grimes, and others in the AMC Hall of Fame. It’s a thrilling murder mystery that takes place in and around the lands of the Navajo Nation in the Monument Valley, which hasn’t been accessed for filming since the days of John Ford. And also, the series features the rich and vibrant Navajo culture and community in ways it’s never been seen before. “Dark Winds” is set to premiere this summer on AMC+ and AMC.

Zahn McClarnon of "Dark Winds" on AMC+.Zahn told us that the cast and his experience on the show were “wonderful,” and he believes the series will be a hit because of George R.R. Martin and Robert Redford being Executive Producers. He’s excited to be working at this current time because not only are there more indigenous actors in TV shows that ever, but he hopes that this show opens doors for more indigenous talent behind the scenes of the shows. He’s glad to see it happening in our “unique time … with Native representation in media.”

Zahn was then asked a specific question about his role on the show as Joe: how torn is Joe as a “police officer trying to solve this crime” and as a member of his Native community? He was also asked if he had any trouble wearing two hats (that of actor and executive producer).

Zahn reminded us that Joe “is a Navajo tribal cop who is tasked to solve these double murders and also a bank robbery.” He pointed out that many tribal police members don’t get much cooperation from the people in “indigenous communities,” and they’re made to feel like they’re outsiders. Joe is also struggling with losing someone in his family and juggling all of these things at once. He has to make peace with both the people in his community as well as the FBI, and it’s very difficult for him. Zahn is new to being executive producer, but he admits that he was given a lot of support from his fellow cast. He learned quite a bit, which he found to be very positive. He hopes to be able to use his experiences next time, either in another season of this show, or in another show. He has his “fingers crossed” for all of that.

The other actors were asked about working with Zahn and how much they knew about him before filming the series.

Kiowa said that he met Zahn in 2013. “We were working on ‘The Red Road’ for Sundance TV and he immediately was just like the coolest guy ever. And I was taking a liking to him, and I followed his career throughout there. And he’s been a huge inspiration for me, so it’s great to be able to work with him in such a capacity.”

Jessica added that she met both Zahn and Kiowa on the set of the show “Frontier.” She commented that they’ve both been like family to her, so “it was a complete joy to hop on board this and do it with family. It’s been so collaborative.” She added about Zahn, “First and foremost, I knew him as a human being and a person, and he was wonderful. And then I was like, oh, he’s kind of a big deal.” There was a bit of joking around after that.

Jessica then continued seriously about how great it is to make these friendships and then to “uplift our community in the best way that we can.” She also admitted that she is a big fan of Rainn’s, so it was extraordinary to meet him. She also confided that she “drove almost two hours to set” to meet Rainn, even though she wasn’t shooting with him. She was very nervous, so she didn’t tell him that. She joked around a bit and then said that she called him “The Beyoncé of my life.” Rainn was amazed and flattered to hear this, and he made his own jokes.

Rainn thanked her and then went on to praise the show’s scripts, set design, costume design, etc. He especially loves the ’70s feel to it and said it’s “just such a pleasure to be a part of this show.” His part is a fun supporting role, which he describes as “the epitome of corruption, which was super fun.” He predicts that Zahn will win many acting awards because of his performance in this show.

Zahn thanked Rainn as well. He mentioned his age a few times during the panel but said that he feels like he must have worked with every single Native actor or actress in the TV and film community. He noted that the cast is “exciting,” and he can’t wait for us all to see the show.

Jessica Matten and Kiowa Gordon of "Dark Winds" on AMC and AMC+.Jessica went on to praise their director, Chris Eyre: “for us Native kids growing up, the film ‘Smoke Signals’ was a very big film.” She mentioned that it “really put Natives in a very contemporary setting, so it’s very full-circle for me to be able to work with Chris…because I grew up in awe of that movie and what he created. And to be able to work [in this], it’s just magical.” She gushed quite a bit, but it was very charming.

One journalist asked Rainn about his character, “Devoted Dan,” and how he compares to Rainn’s other characters from his past work. Rainn replied that he’s never played a character like this before. He joked a bit about showing some skin in the series. He also described him in this way: “he’s a car dealer, and a double dealer, and a born-again, and a preacher, and wherever there’s corruption happening around, you’ll find Devoted Dan right in the middle of it.” He also added, “I asked for the largest cowboy hat they could find and it dwarfed my already enormous head.” He said that he’s very happy to be part of the show.

The director agreed with Rainn and also pointed out how great Noah was in this show.

Noah also said that he was grateful to be part of it, “a project that is so fundamental in bringing unheard voices to light in our culture that have not been recognized, that have not been paid attention to, that Hollywood has sort of reduced and presented cliché. This is a full, three-dimensional examination of these characters and I just was grateful to be the outsider, to be the minority. It was a new experience.”

Zahn joked with Noah by saying that he was “around a long time, too” and also praised his long and impressive résumé. There was more joking around. Noah, too, loved Chris’ movie “Smoke Signals,” which he saw in the theater.

The moderator also asked everyone how they felt to be involved with the series, which took 35 years to get here. Of course, they’re all glad to be a part of it. Kiowa was somewhat philosophical about it, saying, “I’m just saying it’s a long time coming. Good things happen to those that wait and I think we’re all born to be here and making this right now, so here we are. So thank you all for coming together and making this awesome story.”

Jessica is Canadian. She said that up there, they’re called “First Nations” and have a small network called “the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network,” where they were able to tell many stories. However, getting past that into other networks has been difficult. She’s very grateful to AMC and the others to be their allies and to “continue to humanize the experience of being indigenous in this day and age or even in the 1970s where this show is taking place.”

Chris told us that the writers on the show were all “Native American writers,” including three that were of Navajo origin. They also had support from the president of the Navajo Nation as well as Navajo consultants. He also said, “It’s been 35 years in the making, but George and Bob were both fans of Hillerman, and all of us were as well. So, to bring that to the screen now is just a dream come true.”

Graham credited Chris for being on this project the longest, along with George R.R. Martin and Robert Redford. He added, “it shows the passion that Robert Redford had for this project and the importance he thought of getting a story like this put in front of a mainstream audience. So, a lot of credit goes to him for keeping up that fight for so long. ”

Another person from the press asked Chris a tough question. He thought that the show attacks the old western movie-making from the John Ford days and disparages the actors from them, and the hotel that had rooms named after the actors. He asked if there were some bad feelings about those days. He also asked about filming in the same areas where those old westerns were made. Chris took the second question, saying he loved those areas, such as Monument Valley, and the rest of the Southwest. He thinks of it all as part of the American story, and it’s all mashed together and seen through the eyes of their characters. He avoided the first question.

Graham answered the other question with great finesse. He pointed out that the hotel, which is based on a real one, had rooms with the names of the famous actors, but many of of them were white people playing the Natives. He was quick to point out that he loves those old westerns. They had to acknowledge in this series what it was in reality, and he doesn’t think that he went out of his way to intentionally put the westerns down. It was a great end to an amazing panel!

Young & The Restless Update

Y&R logo

Recap written by Christine

Devon and Lily were at Nate’s having a work meeting. Billy came in late and apologized, then he pulled Lily aside to talk. She quietly told him to focus on the launch instead of his ex. He didn’t like the way things ended last night. Lily said it wasn’t the time, then she returned to the meeting. Nate said that the business press was salivating for some details about Chancellor Winters’ plans. He wanted to make sure they were going to make some specific announcements about their project tonight at the party. Devon said they were going to tease the up and coming projects but the focus would be on the overall vision of the future – two companies and families uniting to carry on an amazing legacy. Nate was honored to be part of the legacy, but he didn’t think they should give the impression that this merger was a symbolic change. He thought they needed to give the reporters something juicy. He asked what Lily thought. She sided with Devon, saying that they should focus on the big picture instead of the details. Lily got a call about work, and she and Devon stepped away to handle the issue. Nate tried to get Billy on his side. Billy said that the CEOs already made the decision. Everyone started working on the problem with the party. Something that they needed for tonight wasn’t ready.

Billy, Lily, Nate and Devon went to The Grand Phoenix. Crystal, the hotel manager, apologized and said Phyllis wouldn’t be here tonight, because she was visiting her son. Lily said Phyllis already contacted her. Abby was taking over, and she was already in the ballroom. Billy and Devon were surprised Abby was doing a favor for Phyllis. Lily said that Abby was doing this for them, not Phyllis. Devon felt good that Abby was involved. Nate and Devon went to do a sound check. Billy held Lily back. She wanted to talk later, but he said no, because she said some harsh things last night, and she’d been avoiding the conversation ever since. She said she had work to do. He wanted to explain himself. Lily thought the simple solution was for Billy to let Victoria and Ashland go. She thought he should respect Victoria’s autonomy as a woman and a mother. He said he did. She told him to stop thinking that Victoria would endanger the kids. She felt there was no need to change the custody agreement and that he was only doing this to interfere. He denied that. She told him to stop trying to think he could fix Victoria’s life. She said Victoria wanted to leave town because everyone was trying to micromanage her.

Billy said he wasn’t trying to stay involved in Victoria’s life. He had legitimate concerns, mostly because he hurt Victoria in the past, until she finally had enough and got rid of him. Lily said that Billy was making this about himself, and Victoria would say it wasn’t about him. Billy said that could be true, but he couldn’t stop worrying about Victoria, and this could have massive effects on the kids. Lily said that Billy didn’t have the right to try and run Victoria’s life. Billy said he wasn’t the same person he was when he was with Victoria, but because of that experience, he could see how this was going to unravel, and he was trying to stop her from getting her heart crushed. Lily felt that Victoria should be free to make her own mistakes. She knew it was hard for him to watch this, but it wasn’t his job to fix it. She hated that they were talking about Victoria on a day when they should be focused on the event. Billy thought Lily was implying he still had feelings for Victoria. Lily didn’t think he had feelings for Victoria; she just thought he was way too involved in Victoria’s life and that it went beyond co-parenting.

Billy said he and Victoria had a big history, and he couldn’t just cut ties. Lily countered that she had exes who didn’t cause trouble for their relationship. He pointed out that her exes didn’t live in Genoa City. She reminded him that Victoria might leave town. She wondered if that was his problem with this. He said no – his issue was that Victoria couldn’t let go of that monster. Lily snapped that she was done talking about this, so Billy needed to let it go. Billy didn’t want this to come between him and Lily. He said maybe she was right and this had just as much to do with him as it did with Victoria. If that was the case, he admitted he’d have to come to terms with that and let Victoria live her life. Lily appreciated Billy saying that. She knew that had to be hard for him. He loved her, and he knew she loved him too. He said he was a fool, but he’d be the world’s biggest fool if he didn’t listen to her.

Amanda and Imani were at Crimson Lights. After they finished a work discussion, Amanda asked who Imani was bringing as a date to the launch party. Amanda mentioned a couple of coworkers who she thought had shown an interest in Imani. Imani thought Amanda was being transparent about trying to get her to focus on anyone but Nate. Imani asked if Amanda was afraid she’d cast a spell on Elena’s boyfriend. They looked over and saw that Elena was there, across the room. Imani said it wasn’t like Elena had anything to worry about. Elena walked over and asked the sisters how their mom was. Amanda was happy to report Naya’s Afib was under control. Amanda said it looked like Elena had a long night saving lives. Elena confirmed it had been crazy at the hospital. Imani admired Elena for what she did, even though it probably didn’t give her any time for fun. Elena said she found time here and there, but she loved what she did, and the long hours were part of it. Imani imagined it was easier when Elena and Nate were going through it together. Amanda glared at her sister. Elena said Nate was happy in his new job, and she was happy for him. Imani was sure Nate would understand if Elena was too tired to attend the launch party. “You do look exhausted,” Imani added. “Thanks,” Elena replied. Elena said she’d be fine after she had a nap. Imani thought it was sweet that Elena was willing to sacrifice for Nate. Elena said that a party wasn’t a sacrifice; she looked forward to going. Elena left.

Amanda and Imani arrived at the Grand Phoenix. Amanda asked if the dig Imani took at Elena was necessary. Imani pointed out that Amanda was the one who said Elena looked like she had a long night. Imani said that if she were Elena, the last thing she’d want to do was put on high heels and a fake smile for her boyfriend, no matter how fine he was. Imani got a text from her date for tonight, Giancarlo from marketing. Amanda was pleased – this was one of the guys she’d thought was interested in Imani. Imani said Amanda could relax, because Elena had nothing to worry about.

Imani ended up with Nate, who was excited about tonight. Imani told Nate he should be proud of the work he’d done. Nate felt proud, but he worried tonight would be a missed opportunity. He told her how he wanted to make some announcements, but Devon wanted to focus on the big picture. Nate thought this was the time to show the world exactly what the merged company was going to do, and let the business world see how Chancellor Winters was going to innovate and disrupt. Nate told Imani how nobody else would take his side. Imani was supportive of Nate’s idea. From across the room, Amanda watched the pair with narrowed eyes. Later, Devon, Lily, Billy, Amanda, Nate and Imani were together. Billy told Lily and Devon that this was their moment. Devon and Lily said it was all of their moment. Nate stepped away to take a call. Billy told Lily he’d meet her at the office, but he had something to do first. Her face fell when he wouldn’t tell her where he was going. He kissed her cheek and left.

Elena went home and looked in the mirror and realized she really did look exhausted. She told herself it was because she actually worked instead of sitting around plotting and scheming. She got a phone call with disappointing news. When Nate came home, Elena told him that two doctors called in sick, so she had to work tonight. He asked if she could get anyone to cover. She tried, but she couldn’t. He understood. She really wanted to be there tonight and show everyone how proud she was of him. She said she ran into Amanda and Imani earlier and made a big deal about how excited she was to go, and now she wouldn’t even be there. She was sure Imani would be glad about that. Nate said that Imani was invested in the launch, so she’d be focused on work. He said he’d miss Elena like crazy tonight, but maybe once they were home, they could have their own private celebration. They kissed.

Across the hall, Devon and Amanda kissed in their penthouse. She was really proud of him and all he accomplished with Hamilton Winters and with this expanded family business. She knew Neil was smiling down on him and Lily as they built this amazing company. Devon said he and Amanda had come so far since they met – living together, working together and embarking on a new adventure together. Amanda couldn’t wait. Devon thought tonight would change everything. They kissed too.

Billy met Lily at the office. She was dressed for the party, and he felt like the luckiest man in the world. He told her how proud he was of her. She said she could do this job without him, but it would be a lot harder and a hell of a lot more boring. Billy’s errand was to buy a gift for Lily. It was an amethyst ring, which represented faithful love. She loved it, and she loved him. He said he loved her more than he could ever say, and he dind’t want anything to jeopardize what they had. He was letting go of the past and focus on the future with her. She thanked him for prioritizing their relationship. She knew it was a big step. He said tonight was about the realization of a vision – the future of a united family enterprises and of his future with her. He said tonight would change everything. They kissed.

At Society, Nikki felt just sick about Victoria. She wondered if there was anything they could’ve done to make Victoria realize she deserved a much better man. Victor told Nikki that she couldn’t keep beating herself up over this. She didn’t understand why Victoria would choose a relationship based completely on lies over her family. She acknowledged that Victoria didn’t make the best choices with men – she’d been involved with Billy, who had a gambling problem, but she walked away from him. Nikki didn’t understand why Victoria didn’t realize this was worse. Victor was perplexed too. Nikki felt like they were losing their daughter, and there was nothing they could do about it.

Victor wanted Nikki to stop blaming herself. Victor said he spoke to Ashland last night, and he said there was nothing Victor and Nikki could do to stop him and Victoria. Victor punched his fist into his palm and said he wished he could’ve wiped that smug smile off Ashland’s face, but he knew that would’ve been playing into Ashland’s hand. If he’d hit Ashland, he would’ve played the victim, and Victoria would’ve been more sympathetic to him. Ashland had said it was Victoria’s idea to leave town and that it was her family’s fault for pushing her away. Nikki didn’t believe that. Victor didn’t understand any of this. He felt they’d always encouraged Victoria, but she’d let them know in the past that she didn’t think they respected her enough.

Victor and Nikki continued to fret. Nikki said they couldn’t just let Victoria walk out of their lives, but Victor felt they had no choice but to let this play out. He said they’d have to let Victoria go, and Nikki looked like she was about to cry. Nikki said that even if Victoria realized she made a terrible mistake, she might be too proud to admit it. Nikki worried that Ashland would break Victoria’s spirit. “Have you forgotten how strong our daughter is?,” Victor asked. Nikki was concerned Victoria might never forgive the family. Victor thought Victoria would come to realize that the family only wanted the best for her and that they’d welcome her back with open arms. Victor had an idea to speed up Victoria’s decision to come back home. “There’s the Victor Newman I know and love,” Nikki said.

Victor talked about how much Victoria loved running Newman. He said he was going to make a splashy announcement that Adam would be the new CEO of Newman Enterprises. He would leave Nikki on as co-CEO, and she would have the power to rein Adam in as she saw fit. Nikki thought she should step down and become COO again, that way she could keep an eye on things without diluting the impact of Victor’s decision. “You’re thinking like a businesswoman, baby. I like that,” Victor said. Victor predicted that when Victoria found out her brother was running the business, it’d be too much for her to bear.

Victoria packed up her office. She glanced up at her portrait on the wall. She flashed back to Nikki saying that Victor commissioned it to replace the one that Ashland gave her – the one Victoria destroyed. Nikki said Ashland may have broken her heart but he didn’t destroy her spirit or strength of leadership, and that was what the new portrait represented. In the present, Nick walked in. Victoria told Nick that he wasn’t going to talk her out of leaving. He promised that wasn’t why he came.

Nick said he wouldn’t make the mistake of interfering again. He knew he had to accept that this was what she wanted and needed. He couldn’t stand the idea of her leaving town when there was so much distance and anger between them. He was afraid he’d never see his sister again. Nick said that Victoria had always been an important part of his life and she understood him the way no one else did. He understood that, since no one else knew what it was like to grow up as the child of the Great Victor Newman, with all the complications and obligations that went along with that. Victoria said Victor gave them everything he didn’t have as a child, but he put a lot of pressure on them. Nick said they were always fighting for Victor’s approval and competing to be the chosen one and win the ultimate prize – Newman Enterprises. Victoria said she and Nick competed well, sometimes together. He added that they ran Beauty of Nature. She said they ran Newman for a time. “We were the best team,” he said. He admitted they fought like hell sometimes, like every sibling did, but they always supported each other. He said he’d always be here for her. She asked if he was expecting her to say things hadn’t changed for her either. He was just trying to be honest, and he hoped she would be too.

Victoria was just tired of the constant judgments and attacks on everything she did. She wished he’d understand why she was doing this. Nick admitted he was worried Victoria was turning her back on everyone who loved her, and he was also worried Ashland would hurt her. Victoria told Nick that he didn’t know Ashland would hurt her. Nick hoped things worked out, but he was going to worry because of who Ashland was and all the games he’d played. Nick said he and Victoria had always shown up for each other and helped each other through the most terrible things you could imagine. That was what she wanted him to do now. Nick said he and Victoria always supported each other’s choices, good and bad, but he couldn’t say the same for the rest of the family. He noted that Nikki didn’t want him to marry Sharon, but Victoria knew how happy Sharon made him. Nick said Victoria had a lot of issues with Sharon, but she put that aside. Nick thought it was the same way with Billy – Victor hated him, but Nick knew this was Victoria’s choice to make. Victoria said she chose Ashland. She asked if Nick would support her. “Of course I will,” he assured her. He would never understand this decision, but he would always protect, support and defend her, because she was his sister, and he loved her.

What Nick said meant a lot to Victoria. She thanked him. She wished he could share this excitement with her. She was starting a new chapter on her own, away from the family. She just wished everyone understood she needed a little air to breathe, to chart her own path. She said she was starting a new life, in a way, and she wanted to share her news with him. He said she could call him whenever she wanted. They hugged.

Update written by Joseph

Belle can’t believe EJ would casually say that Shawn’s baby might die and that would be a bright side to this as she pours herself a drink. EJ points out that Jan Spears having this baby is the reason that Belle and Shawn were separated. Belle stops him and asks what is wrong with him.

Shawn sits with Jan in the hospital as Jan worries about her stomach cramps. Shawn encourages that they are going to get her an IV to slow them down. Jan asks what if the baby comes today when it’s too soon.

Sarah goes to the hospital and asks Marlena if Kayla is on duty. Marlena responds that she thinks she might be in surgery. Sarah then cries that she needs help as she thinks the antidote is wearing off.

Lucas remains at the counter of the Pub, staring at the drink that Clyde left on the bar until Kate walks in and questions if he’s drinking. Lucas tells her that the drink is not his and that it belongs to Kate’s ex-boyfriend Clyde, who just left. Lucas swears he didn’t take a drink. Kate admits she saw Clyde leaving as she was coming in. Lucas complains about Kate not trusting him. Kate then takes the drink. Lucas tries to stop her by saying Clyde drank out of that glass but Kate says she needs the drink after just talking with Chad. Lucas asks what the big deal is. Kate reveals that Chad thought she should know that he told Abigail that Lucas is the one who kidnapped Sami. Lucas argues that she has to be kidding.

Abigail and Chad sit together in the town square. Abigail tells Chad about Gwen not being happy that she broke her mug and saying she would make her pay. Chad asks if Gwen said how she was going to do that. Abigail blows it off as Gwen just trying to scare her. Abigail tells Chad not to look so worried since Gwen is behind bars so there’s nothing she can do to her…

Gwen calls Leo from prison and says she needs to talk about Abigail. Gwen declares that if she doesn’t get to spend her father’s birthday with him, then neither does Abigail. Leo remains in the DiMera wine cellar and thinks she’s being a little dramatic. Gwen complains that she asked Abigail for one favor to get Jack the gift that she made for him for his birthday but Abigail smashed in to a million pieces. Gwen orders Leo to find the nearest, sharpest object and stab Abigail in the heart with it.

Marlena asks Sarah what makes her think the antidote is wearing off. Sarah tells her that she and Xander went to see Maggie to tell her that she got her memory back and that they were back together. Sarah states that while they were there, she had a hallucination of Kristen with a syringe and she thought she was coming after her but then she realized it was just Victor with a pen in his hand. Sarah says she didn’t let on because she didn’t want them to worry but admits she’s scared to death. Sarah asks Marlena if she knows what’s happening to her. Marlena encourages her not to panic. Sarah asks how to do that when she’s seeing things that aren’t there. Sarah asks if she’s losing her mind and what Gwen did to her.

Leo tells Gwen that this sounds a little extreme even for her. Gwen reminds him that their double wedding was supposed to be the day that changed their lives forever and then they got dumped by Xander and Craig. Gwen questions why they are always the ones that suffer while Abigail and Chad live their perfect lives together. Leo says he’s just as infuriated as she is. Gwen asks if he’s folding as she thought he wanted to inflict pain on all who hurt him. Leo brings up what he did to Chad and Sonny. Gwen blows that off as everyone knowing it was lies. Gwen declares that they need to hurt them the way that they hurt them. Leo says his phone is about to die. Gwen hopes so is Abigail. Leo then hangs up. Leo then picks up the knife from his breakfast tray and puts it in his bag.

Abigail tells Chad that Gwen will just sit around like she always does and it’s nothing new. Chad informs Abigail that he told Kate that Abigail knows Lucas kidnapped Sami. Chad admits that Kate was not pleased but he assured her that she would keep her mouth shut.

Lucas questions Kate as to why Chad told Abigail. Kate explains that he didn’t have a choice as Abigail got it in to her head that she wanted to solve the mystery and was planning to publish an article about it in the Spectator. Kate adds that Abigail already dug up Lucas’s friend Pete and was determined to go interview him in Wisconsin. Kate says that Chad couldn’t talk her out of it and was worried about what might happen if she went to investigate, so he thought the best way out of it was to tell her that it was her beloved uncle Lucas who kidnapped Sami. Kate admits that she can’t blame him. Lucas argues that he can blame him. Lucas asks what if they tell EJ or anyone else and worries that he would be screwed.

EJ reminds Belle that if Shawn told her immediately after he slept with Jan, that she would try to convince her to take the morning after pill. Belle argues that is not the same thing as that prevents pregnancy and doesn’t end one. Belle declares that this is a life and she does not and has never wished the baby dead, but it could die. Belle says she’s feeling sorry for herself while Shawn is probably freaking out at the hospital. Belle decides she has to go. EJ questions why she would do that. Belle responds that whether she likes it or not, this is Shawn’s baby and she would never forgive herself if she wasn’t there. Belle then rushes out of the DiMera Mansion.

Marlena encourages Sarah that she’s not losing her mind. Sarah asks why she thought she saw Kristen then. Sarah argues that the antidote is supposed to reverse the effects of Dr. Rolf’s drug. Marlena points out that it has set aside a lot of the damage she has been through but because of her dosage, there might be flare ups. Marlena knows Kayla has prescribed medication for her that helped Abigail, but the dosage may have to be increased. Sarah asks if these hallucinations are just something she’s going to have to live with for the rest of her life. Marlena hopes not but says it’s hard to give any guarantees. Marlena says they can adjust the dosage of her new medicine but she thinks they have reason to be optimistic. Marlena suggests Sarah talk to Abigail since she’s been through all of this. Sarah agrees that is a great idea and thanks Marlena for talking her down. Sarah then walks away as Belle arrives at the hospital. Marlena greets her and asks what she’s doing here. Belle informs her that she was with Shawn when she called to say Jan is in labor. Marlena confirms that Jan was admitted a little while ago. Belle argues that Jan can’t have the baby now since it’s so soon. Marlena agrees that it’s soon and they have given her medication to hopefully stop the contractions. Shawn then comes out and announces that Jan just passed out, so Marlena rushes to the room with Shawn.

EJ talks to the portrait of Stefano, saying he was too direct with Belle just now as he thought he was comforting her, but she left deeply offended. EJ supposes he should find a way to make this right as he finishes a drink. EJ then walks out of the living room. Leo then emerges from the tunnels and remarks that he thought EJ would never shut up and leave. Leo says it seems like everyone around here uses Stefano as a sounding board. Leo asks Stefano what he should do about Abigail or to Abigail.

Chad agrees with Abigail that Kate and Lucas have nothing to worry about. Chad thanks Abigail for agreeing not to say anything and apologizes for putting her in that position as he never wants to ask her to lie, especially to her own family. Abigail points out that Lucas is her mom’s half brother while she’s not related to Sami, unlike he and EJ. Chad states that keeping secrets from each other is part of his family’s favorite pastime but keeping secrets from his wife is not something he will ever do again. Abigail assures that there’s nothing he can’t tell her as she will always be on his side and she loves him. Abigail informs Chad that she is ovulating, so Chad suggests they get out of here.

Shawn comes back out and informs Belle that Jan has been rushed to the operating room as she had a placental abruption. Belle knows a woman in her office who had that and that woman lost the baby. Belle tells Shawn that she’s sorry and asks what Marlena said. Shawn says she agreed to stay with Jan since they wouldn’t let him go with her. Shawn worries that they were all so serious and he has no idea what’s going to happen to Jan or the baby.

Kate encourages Lucas that Chad gave her his word that Abigail is not going to say anything. Lucas questions her buying that. Kate insists that Abigail won’t send her own uncle to prison. Lucas points out that she sent her own sister there. Kate argues that he knows that’s completely different. Kate says that Abigail hates Gwen and loves Lucas, so she would understand he was desperate to keep Sami from going back to EJ. Kate admits that Lucas did a boneheaded thing but Abigail won’t send him to jail just because she feels like it when she’s a good person. Lucas worries about Abigail being an editor at a newspaper and she was working on Sami’s kidnapping story, so what happens if she decides to run the story anyway. Kate thinks it would solve all of Lucas’s problems if he just told Sami the truth. Lucas mocks the idea of that working out great for him. Kate argues that he doesn’t know and brings up how many times over the years that they have forgiven each other for doing horrible things. Kate asks why wouldn’t Sami eventually understand and forgive him. Kate adds that if Lucas is thinking of marrying Sami, he can’t live with this secret between them.

Sarah goes to see Gwen in prison. Gwen questions what she’s doing here. Sarah responds that they haven’t been properly introduced so she introduces herself and brings up Gwen borrowing her face to break up with Xander as her, so it must be like looking into a mirror.

Leo sneaks in to Chad and Abigail’s bed room. He then hears them coming so he runs to hide in the closet. Chad and Abigail enter the room and start kissing.

Gwen tells Sarah that she doesn’t want to get in to this now. Sarah says that’s too bad. Sarah complains that Gwen knew Kristen was holding her prisoner on that island and she left her there, stranded. Sarah adds that she would probably still be there if not for Abigail. Gwen blames Abigail for Sarah ever being sent to that island. Sarah asks how it’s Abigail’s fault. Gwen brings up the syringe and how Kristen never would’ve gotten it if Abigail hadn’t left it in the DiMera secret room where she was planning to use it on her. Sarah mocks the idea that Gwen’s the victim in all of this. Gwen argues that she didn’t kidnap Sarah, so she tells her to go find Kristen and tell her all of her troubles. Sarah says she plans to but thought she would start with Gwen first. Sarah talks about Xander getting her the antidote and how that didn’t work for Gwen, so she made sure she got a double dose of the crazy drug. Gwen argues that Sarah got the antidote and is now good as new. Gwen asks why Sarah is here bothering her.

Chad and Abigail lay in bed after having sex. Chad wonders if this is the day they made a baby. Abigail jokes that if they didn’t, it wasn’t for lack of trying, but she feels like they did which excites Chad. Abigail asks if Chad is hoping for another girl or another boy. Chad says twins. Abigail jokes that they would be seriously outnumbered. Chad says Thomas and Charlotte are old enough to help out. Abigail asks what Chad thinks about taking a little trip with the kids tonight since tomorrow is Jack’s birthday, so they could all fly to Boston together. Chad calls that a great idea but notes that it seems pretty sudden. Chad asks if they can leave in the morning which Abigail agrees to, asking what difference one night would make as they kiss.

Shawn asks what Belle was doing at the hospital anyway. Belle responds that she was worried about the baby and Shawn as he must be scared. Shawn admits that he is. Shawn calls it the baby he never wanted to happen but then he started thinking about whether it was going to be a boy or a girl and taking care of a new baby. Belle encourages that Jan has the best doctors and care here. Shawn brings up that the baby might be deprived of oxygen and nourishment so it’s going to be touch and go. Belle hugs Shawn and encourages him to keep believing the baby will be okay. EJ arrives and sees them. Shawn wonders how long it will be before he knows something. Belle declares that no matter how long it takes, she will be there for him.

Lucas tells Kate that he’s not going to tell Sami the truth and argues that if she found out that he held her against her will for months, she’ll send him to prison and then go back to EJ so fast. Kate says she gets it and she doesn’t want the information to come out either. Kate worries that Roman would never forgive her either if he found out she kept the information from him. Lucas knows holding a grudge is in the Brady DNA. Kate says it’s fine to not tell Sami, she just hates seeing this eat away at him. Lucas feels he has no choice. Kate suggests they meet back at the Pub for dinner tonight. Kate jokes that she will annoy him so much that he’ll forget all about Abigail. Lucas agrees to meet her later.

Chad gets dressed as their kids Thomas and Charlotte enter their room. Abigail asks what they think about a trip to Boston to surprise Jack for his birthday. Charlotte asks if they can take the DiMera Jet which Chad agrees to. Thomas asks about the Tooth Fairy and says it’s a he. Thomas asks what about Minions which Abigail questions. Chad explains that DiMera is doing a special screening of the new Minions movie and he said they could go. Abigail asks what time the screening is. Chad says it’s in like an hour so they can still make it. Thomas asks if Abigail can come too. Abigail says she’d love to but she still has to approve a layout for the paper and her assistant is going to send it to her in one hour. Charlotte questions her not going to the movie. Chad asks if it’s okay if he takes them which the kids agree to. Abigail hugs her kids and sends them to go change clothes. Abigail jokes with Chad about it being that easy to make the kids happy.

Sarah questions Gwen asking why she is bothering her and if she really has to spell it out. Gwen complains that Sarah got what she wanted. Sarah informs her that she had to relive the death of her baby and asks if she has any idea what that’s like. Gwen responds that she actually does. Sarah tells her to try doing it twice. Sarah confirms she got her memory back but she’s still having hallucinations. Sarah calls Gwen miserable. Gwen complains that she’s paying for it now as she’s stuck in prison and has lost everything from her family to her freedom to Xander. Sarah says she did it all to herself. Sarah declares that she and Xander are back together. Gwen blames that on Abigail stopping the wedding. Gwen argues that Xander loved her and they were going to get married. Sarah assures they sorted all that out and are now very happy. Sarah tells Gwen to think about that as she is taken back to her cell. Sarah then exits.

EJ approaches Shawn and Belle. Shawn questions what he’s doing here. EJ says he wanted to inquire about the baby. Shawn argues that he couldn’t care less about his baby. EJ understands how worried he must be. Shawn says EJ is the last thing he wants to deal with and tells him to get the hell out. Marlena comes back so Shawn asks what happened in the OR. Marlena confirms that they stopped the bleeding and Jan will be fine, but they had to deliver the baby. Marlena announces the baby is small, but alive, and that Shawn has a son. Marlena explains that the baby was rushed him to the NICU and will be there for quite awhile. Shawn asks if he can see him but Marlena says they are still evaluating him. Shawn asks about Jan. Marlena says she was taken back to her room. Shawn decides he should probably be there when Jan wakes up. Shawn thanks Belle for staying with him as he then heads to Jan’s room. Marlena decides to go check on more information on the baby and walks away. EJ tells Belle that it must have been a lot to take in and wishes she would say something. Belle asks EJ to just get her out of here. EJ asks where she’d like to go. Belle has tears in her eyes as she says anywhere and then leaves the hospital with EJ.

Gwen notices the prison guard has fallen asleep. She sneaks back to the phone and makes a call, saying she needs their help.

Chad and Abigail talk about being lucky to have great kids as they kiss. Chad asks Abigail what the whole Tooth Fairy thing was about. Abigail says she will tell him when he gets back. Abigail tells Chad that she loves him. Chad says he loves her and then exits the room.

Lucas remains at the Pub with a drink in front of him on the table. Lucas says to himself that for all he knows, Abigail could be writing that story right now. Lucas adds that Will, Allie, and Sami will hate him and he might be headed for prison. Lucas then gets up and goes behind the bar . Lucas grabs a bottle of alcohol and sneaks out of the Pub with it.

Abigail sits in her room with her laptop while Leo remains hiding in the closet.

Kate sits at the bar of the Brady Pub, waiting for Lucas. She pulls out her phone and texts him, asking where he is as she thought they were having dinner.

Lucas passes out in his bed at the Salem Inn with the bottle of alcohol in his hand.

EJ brings Belle home to the DiMera Mansion and asks if she’s feeling any better. Belle jokes that the second bottle of wine took the edge off. EJ apologizes for what he said earlier and being unfeeling about a child’s life. EJ calls it a very ham-handed attempt to make her feel better. Belle says she does want to. Belle then asks EJ to make her feel better as they start kissing.

Gwen tries to sneak back in to the prison visiting room but the prison guard catches her, noting that she missed bed check and questions where she’s been. Gwen claims she was in the library but he says they searched there. Gwen claims she fell asleep in a corner and just woke up. Gwen asks where else she could have been…

Leo rushes outside to a bench, sweating in a panic as he grips on to his bag.

Chad returns home from the movies, shocked to find Abigail’s bloody body on their bed.

Quinn meets Eric at home with martinis. She tells him that she’s missed him lately. She praises his time at the club as being good for his health and easing his tension. He tells her how much he cherishes their time together, especially the creativity and love of art that they share. They compliment each other, but Eric looks guilty when Quinn says that he’s loyal.

Recap written by Suzanne

Brooke objects to Taylor spending time with Ridge at his place. Taylor has brought food. She claims that she and Ridge need to spend together as parents, since Steffy and Hayes have run off. Brooke isn’t buying and knows what Taylor is up to. They keep arguing until finally, Ridge says that he needs time to decide what to do, but he needs to spend some time with Taylor. Brooke leaves, annoyed. Ridge and Taylor share Chinese food and flirt. They read their fortune cookies. Ridge’s is about being a best friend. He is worried that she might leave, but she assures him that she’s not going anywhere.

When Brooke gets home, Deacon is there. He asks about her visit with Ridge. He’s outraged when he finds out that Ridge sent her away. He assures that if she were married to him, he would always want her by his side.

Carter tells Quinn how much he misses her, dreams about her and thinks about her. She feels bad for him, although she understands because she misses him, too. She thinks that he’ll find someone worthy of his love one day, but she doesn’t think that Paris is that person. They both want to get back together, but she feels that after Eric forgave her that she owes him total devotion and fidelity.

Donna finds Eric waiting for her, but he doesn’t look happy. He’s been thinking about Quinn and feeling guilty. Donna jokes around to make him feel better. She mentions that she loves him. They lie in bed together. She talks about all of the great times they’ve had together, and we see clips of them in the past. She really hates that he’s unhappy. She says that she doesn’t want to be a homewrecker, but she urges him to leave Quinn.

Jack: So, what is this fabulous idea of yours?

Diane: I would love to treat everyone for breakfast, including Harrison if he’s here.

Kyle: He’s already down for his morning nap. Someone got him all wound up last night and it took forever to get him to sleep.

Jack: Guilty as charged.

Diane: Oh, who wouldn’t want to spend as much time as possible with that beautiful boy? As a fellow doting grandparent, I stand in solidarity with Jack.

********************

Diane: So, Phyllis is all the way in Savannah?

Summer: Visiting Daniel and his family.

Diane: Oh, well, that’s nice. I guess she’s a doting grandmother, too. Lucy, right?

Summer: I don’t know anyone who spoils kids better than my mom.

Diane: Oh, well then, let the games begin. I have lot of time and presents to make up for. I promise I am going to take advantage of every minute I get to spend with Harrison.

Review of “Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Complete Eleventh Season”

DVD Review!

"Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Complete Eleventh Season" DVD cover

“Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Complete Eleventh Season” Review by Suzanne 6/10/21

This is my favorite comedy, since “Frasier” left the air. Yes, “Seinfeld” was very good, but I liked “Frasier” better. “Curb” is better than both. In part, that’s because it’s on HBO. Larry David can come up with these great ideas that would never have worked on broadcast TV.  This season, they had some great guest stars such as Jon Hamm and Tracey Ullman.  One of the new characters, Maria Sofia (Keyla Monterroso Mejia), is polarizing among fans. She’s both annoying and hilarious. More importantly, she makes Larry funnier.  Leon is also one of our favorite characters, and he continues to make us laugh uproariously.

I hope you can enjoy these episodes as much as we did. Each season is only 10 episodes, and it’s hard to wait between seasons while Larry comes up with the ideas and perfects them.

The DVD, unfortunately, doesn’t have any features or extras.  At least, though, you shouldn’t have too much trouble taking off the shrink wrap.

Victor: You think it’s gonna be that easy? That you are gonna get what you want? Think again.

Ashland: Victoria’s the one who’s getting what she wants.

Victor: You’re not gonna get away with this. You will not take my daughter away from her home.

Ashland: I’m not taking her away. She’s coming with me. Victoria is leaving genoa city of her own volition. She is aware of my mistakes and she wants to be with me anyway. That is love.

Victor: That is bull. She will soon become aware that you’re nothing but a human parasite. As I’ve always suspected you were.

Ashland: Always?

Victor: Always. Don’t you think I checked up on you? Don’t you think I learned about the fact that you assumed your dead friend’s identity and stole a woman’s fortune to build your empire? You thought I was that naive? The one thing I regret, ashland locke, is that I allowed my wife to call the damn ambulance when you suffered a heart attack in my living room. I should’ve let you croak.

Victoria: I am telling you, I’m starting over for myself, nobody else.

Billy: [ Sighs ] Yeah, that doesn’t make sense because why would you leave newman enterprises at the peak of your success?

Victoria: Oh, come on. You know there’s more to life than succeeding at your job.

Billy: Oh, I would love it if you actually believed that. But right now, I want at least a thread of truth from you.

Victoria: I’m trying.

Billy: Really? What does ashland locke have to do with you running out of town?

Victoria: Look, I can’t lie to you. Ashland is integral to my decision.

Billy: Okay. Look, if you are embarrassed because you think people are talking about you around town, blaming you for half of his crimes, that’s not what’s happening, okay? Nobody blames you. You don’t let him run you out of town like this, if that’s what’s happening.

Victoria: Billy, stop. Stop talking. That’s not it.

Billy: Then what is it, vick? Why are you leaving?

Victoria: Ashland has shown remorse, and he’s shown me how much he loves me and how strong his love is, and I…I’ve forgiven him. We’re leaving together.

Chelsea: Huh. You have enough time to go for a run in the middle of the day. How nice.

Adam: It’s extremely nice.

Chelsea: Mm, yeah, sure it is. I get my cardio dashing between connor’s practices and playdates, my office, meetings.

Adam: Well, I’m happy to handle more pick-ups and drop-offs, or we could have him spend more time at the ranch if you’re feeling overwhelmed.

Chelsea: No, that’s okay. No, just a half-day at school today, so the logistics became a little more complicated, that’s alL. But connor’s at soccer practice right now if you want to stop by.

Adam: Yeah, I would like that. I’ll — I’ll stop over there.

Chelsea: I’m sure he’d love to see you. He can show off his new moves. Hey, do you know what a classic elastico is?

Adam: I have no idea.

Chelsea: Yeah, neither do I.

[ Chuckles ] Apparently connor’s perfected it.

[ Ghs si he seems to love his new coach, though. I think he reminds connor a lot of rey.

Adam: Chelsea, are you alright? Last time I saw you, you were kind of on edge.

Chelsea: I’m not falling apart, if that’s what you’re afraid of.

Sally: Summer.

Summer: Sally.

Sally: I heard that the newest star at marchetti was gracing genoa city with a visit. I’m surprised you were able to get away. Must be a pretty busy time.

Summer: It is. You’ve certainly had a meteoric rise after being kicked to the curb by lauren.

Sally: Yeah, well, always been resilient.

Summer: I was the first to admit that I really liked the wedding dress that you designed for my aunt victoria, but i could’ve never imagined that you’d be able to ride the train of that gown all the way to the coo’s office at newman media. What a stroke of luck.

Sally: [ Chuckles ] It wasn’t luck. It’s ambition — something that you and I both have a lot of, wouldn’t you say?

Jack: I keep seeing you at all my favorite spots.

Diane: Mm, it’s almost like i live in genoa city.

Jack: You really are here for the duration, aren’t you?

Diane: I’m here as long as kyle wants me to be, and our son has made it abundantly clear that I’m welcome. So why don’t you make yourself comfortable? Join me.

Adam: I’m not worried about you going off the deep end. I just — I know the signs when you’re trouble. I know it’s a stressful time. You’re working on a new line with chloe at fenmore’s —

Chelsea: Okay, okay, I’m gonna stop you right there. You don’t have to be so patronizing. I’m not troubled. Working with lauren and chloe has been a dream. There’s no ego, no in-fighting, no fear of getting stabbed in the back.

Adam: Oh, so, in other words, unlike your last employer.

Chelsea: Exactly. It helps me get out of bed in the morning.

Adam: Well, I’m — I’m glad to hear that. I know that it’s a lot of work, and doing something enjoyable can put just as much pressure on you as dealing with something difficult, and you’re dealing with both. You know, rey’s death was a shock, so I’m worried about you and connor.

Chelsea: And connor? Are you implying you don’t trust me around our son?

Adam: Chelsea, no, I’m not saying that. I know that you always putnnor fst. I’m just acknowledging that this is a tough time for you both. And I know how much connor liked rey, and we’re helping him get through this time. I just want to make sure that you’re taking time for yourself, that’s all.

Chelsea: It’s never just “that’s all” with you, adam. You always have an agenda, and i don’t need you to worry about me, okay? Because I’ve been taking care of myself my whole life.

Adam: Why are you being like this?

Chelsea: Being like what? I’m just saying, I don’t need your help during this difficult time. That’s all.

Adam: Chelsea, I’m just trying to make sure that you’re okay, alright?

Kyle: Is there a problem?

Billy: How do you forgive ashland locke for everything that he’s done?

Victoria: Gosh, I don’t know. I guess I’ve had a lot of practice. I’ve forgiven you many, many times.

Billy: Right, so you’re comparing your ex-husband, the one who lied to you for months about having cancer, to me? You think that’s fair?

Victoria: You know, billy, i thought that you of all people would understand. I mean, your podcast is all about redemption. You are all about giving people second chances right now, aren’t you?

Billy: Well, when ashland locke stole his best friend’s identity, then falsified a dying woman’s will, I think he ran out of second chances.

Victoria: Well, you know what? I believe that there is room for forgiveness when someone shows true contrition, which is exactly what ashland has done.

Billy: I mean, after everything he’s done? I have no idea what that would even look like. But what bothers me more is this hold that he has on you. That you would be willing to leave everything you have, your family, your company, including johnny and katie behind.

Victoria: Hold on a second. What are you saying?

Billy: What are you gonna say to the kids, vick? “Mommy’s leaving town with the man that’s been lying to her for months”?

Victoria: They don’t know about that, billy. As far as they’re concerned, we’ve been together this whole time. And they will always have a home with me. I will never, ever leave them behind.

Billy: Where are you going? Is it close by?

Victoria: Ashland and I would like to have a chance to get settled without you and my family monitoring our every move, so I will let you know where we land.

Billy: That’s very kind of you. You’ll let me know. And you expect me to sign off on johnny and katie leaving everything they know here to run off god knows where with ashland locke? That’s not gonna happen, victoria. I don’t want my kids anywhere near that monster.

Ashland: You can try to pull all the strings and control victoria’s life, but you cannot control her heart. Love triumphs over everything.

Victor: [ Chuckles ] Coming from you, that’s hilarious, man. It’s not love. You don’t even know the first thing about that. It’s a manipulative sham to convince my daughter to substitute the real thing.

Ashland: You know, I have to admit, I had given up. After the restraining order, i thought there was nothing left for me here in genoa city.

Victor: That was the idea.

Ashland: But then victoria came to me and told me she still loves me. Now, I can’t take all the credit for winning her back. Her loyalty to you and to the rest of her family runs deep, but, victor [Sighs] You blew it. You drove her away with your iron fist and your draconian methods, your conviction that only father knows best and your complete lack of respect for her intelligence and her independence. You tried to control every aspect of her life, and that’s what drove her back into my arms. Now, you can rant and rail against me all you want, but you need to know this — you have no one to blame but yourself.

Victor: You’re a hell of a talker, ashland. You’re good at that. But this is not over.

Meet ron.

Jack: So many options. Abby keeps changing the menu.

Diane: Mm, well, everything I’ve had here so far has been good.

Jack: To my mind, this is the best restaurant in town.

Diane: [ Sighs ] Whatever happened to gloria’s? I remember she was really proud of that place.

Jack: Glo-worm? Mercifully, it burned to the ground. Though they did have a dover sole with cream and capers that was pretty memorable.

Diane: Jack, we can do better than this.

Jack: What do you mean?

Diane: Menus, restaurants. What, are you gonna ask me about the weather next? We don’t need to make small talk. We have a son. We have a grandson. We have history together.

Jack: Most of it unpleasant. Come on, we can’t exactly walk down memory lane together without smashing into a boulder or two.

Diane: Fine. We can just sit here in silence.

Jack: [ Sighs ]

Diane: Or I could tell you about harrison and all the little things he does that reminds me of kyle.

Jack: You can’t really see that many resemblances. You haven’t spent that much time with him.

Diane: Well, that’s true, but I hope to fix that. He’s just so cute. Oh, come on, doesn’t he remind you of kyle as a boy?

Jack: [ Sighs ] The other day, I came home from work and harrison was so happy to see his grandpa jack. I’d had a tough day at the office, and suddenly everything was bright and…he shared his lemonade with me and asked me if I wanted my own cookie.

Diane: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: He’s a pretty great kid.

Diane: See? That’s what I told you. He’s kind and generous, just like kyle.

Adam: There is no problem, kyle. Just talking to chelsea about our son.

Chelsea: I appreciate your concern, but everything’s okay.

Kyle: Glad to hear it.

Adam: Well, you must be extra vigilant these days. Protecting harrison must be foremost in your mind.

Kyle: Yeah, things have gotten a bit unpleasant.

Adam: Well, you can relax now, ’cause locke’s leaving town. Looks like that restraining order that victor facilitated worked.

Kyle: Are you sure? I haven’t heard anything about it.

Adam: I know for a fact that locke is on his way out of genoa city.

Kyle: Forgive me if I don’t consider everything you say to be gospel, adam.

Chelsea: Wise man.

Kyle: Looks like you were in the middle of a run. Don’t let us interrupt you.

Chelsea: The nanny’s gonna bring connor home after his scrimmage, so if you want to see him, you should go now.

Adam: I will. Maybe we can catch up later.

Kyle: You sure you’re alright?

Chelsea: Yeah. Yeah, that was just a couple of exes arguing over their kid. Adam can’t help being adam, you know? He is who he is. He can be a lot, but I have years of practice, so…

Kyle: [ Chuckles ] Well, I guess connor’s wellbeing is the most important thing.

Chelsea: Yeah, adam is a good dad. Connor is his priority.

Kyle: That’s great to hear, ’cause being a father is my top priority as well.

Chelsea: Of course, and it’s so great. I mean, you and harrison back in town, and summer, too.

Kyle: Thanks. I hope I wasn’t overstepping.

Chelsea: No, not at all. I appreciate the interruption, actually. Can I thank you with a coffee for your chivalry?

Kyle: I could use some caffeine.

Chelsea: That’d be good.

Kyle: Yeah.

Chelsea: Shall we?

Kyle: Mm.

Sally: You know, we don’t need to get into a blow-by-blow of our career trajectories. Too many details.

Summer: You mean like you conspiring with tara locke to drive me out of town and away from kyle?

Sally: Yeah, mm-hmm, that’s one example.

Summer: You know, I can’t help but wonder if your ambition — as you referred to it — your ascension to coo of newman media has anything to do with you sleeping with the boss.

Sally: My point is, just think about how amazing it is that everything worked out. Both of us ended up right where we belong, doing what we love, our dream jobs with our dream guys. Genoa city.

Summer: I know you liked that I was on a different continent.

Sally: You wanted to be the creative director of marchetti. That is where they’re located, so you have to go where the work is, right?

Summer: You’re right. I was destined to be at marchetti, regardless of how i ended up getting the position. But milan was never where I was supposed to be. My home is genoa city. And I’m back for good.

Sally: You’re quitting your dream job?

Summer: No. We’re relocating marchetti to genoa city.

Victoria: Johnny and katie are off at boarding school, so their lives are not going to be immediately disrupted. And besides that, it’s not your call. We have joint custody.

Billy: Yeah, well, that agreement is based on the two of us living in the same city.

Victoria: Well, then it’s a minor adjustment. Divorced people relocate all the time. I will file a motion with the court and tell them that I’m moving out of ate. It’s not a big deal.

Billy: No, it is a big deal, ’cause I will fight that motion. I’m not letting you take our kids away from genoa city.

Victoria: Do you really think that I would do anything to put johnny and katie in danger?

Billy: No, I never thought you would do anything to put johnny and katie in danger. You always put them first, which is why this is so stunning, because you’re not thinking rationally. Ashland locke is a threat to our kids.

Victoria: Ashland would never do anything to harm them. They love him, and he loves them.

Billy: You know kyle and summer took out a restraining order to keep him away from harrison. You know that, right? So I’m not the only one that thinks he poses a threat.

Victoria: Yes, billy, I know. I heard all about it. I know. My father, he orchestrated the whole thing. He pulled some strings to get the judge to sign the paperwork. Believe me, that was the last straw for me.

Billy: Well, unfortunately for you, that court order is now public record, so good luck on trying to find a court to ignore it.

Victoria: Since when have you become such a fan of my father’s methods?

Billy: Got to do what you got to do to protect your kids, right?

Victoria: You know what? I did not come here to ask you for permission anyway. I came here to tell you, as a courtesy, what my plans are.

Billy: And you expect me to sign off and let you walk away, taking our kids with you?

Victoria: I expect you to be rational, to not want to put them through a tug-of-war, but i guess my expectations were too high.

Billy: Victoria. Victoria, you are making a mistake. Ashland locke crossed a line, a line that no one should cross or be allowed back from. He is going to hurt you again. You know that.

Victoria: Billy, I’m a grown woman.

Billy: Right, so you’re a grown woman. You can make your own mistakes. Good for you. But I am not gonna let your bad choices affect my children. I will fight you on this. Wipes. Wipes. Wipes.

Summer: Oh, you don’t seem happy to hear our news.

Sally: No, I’M…just surprised. But good for you, summer. You deserve it.

Summer: I can’t wait. It’s gonna be really fun. I’ll have full creative control of a fashion house, a loving husband, our adorable son, and a full life in my hometown, surrounded by friends and family. Turns out you really can have it all.

Sally: Yeah, guess you can.

[ Indistinct speaking ]

Summer: Speaking of which. Are you okay?

Sally: Yeah, fine. Never better.

Kyle: Hi, hi.

Chelsea: Hello, sally.

Sally: Chelsea.

Kyle: What’s going?

Summer: We were just getting re-acquainted.

Kyle: Mm.

Summer: Sally, you suddenly seem so skittish. Is something wrong?

Sally: You know what? I actually have to get going. Can’t sit around all day, chit-chatting. Have a lot to do at the office with all my responsibilities. Have to run, but it was really great to see you all. And let me know if your little fashion house needs a push from the giant media conglomerate adam and I run. I’d be glad to help.

Summer: Chelsea, it’s so good to see you, and I’m glad you guys came when you did. You rescued me.

Chelsea: Aw, well, there seems to be a lot of that going on today.

Jack: I said, “harrison, there are no frogs allowed in the house. Do you have one in your pocket?” He shakes his head, he looks at me like I’m crazy for even suggesting it. I said, “can I see what’s in your pocket?” He pulls out a frog. I said, “what is that?” He says, “it’s the tiniest dinosaur in the whole world.”

Diane: [ Laughs ] Aww. I can’t wait for him to get to know his deedee. I remember the early years of kyle’s life so well. And I realize that’s because I — I did miss a lot of his childhood, but the memories I do have I replayed over and over again.

Jack: Yeah, I’m sure.

Diane: And now that we’ve reconnected, I’ve noticed that kyle has inherited your sense of wonder.

Jack: What?

Diane: Yes, I see it in the way he plays with harrison. The same way you did with him when he was a boy. It warms my heart, truly. You know, we didn’t have a lot of time as co-parents, but we did have some good days when kyle was little. Oh, I remember when you brought over your childhood toys to entertain him.

[ Both laugh ]

Jack: I remember that.

Diane: Yeah. You were built for fatherhood, jack. I saw it in the joy in your face as you shared your favorites and making memories with your son.

Jack: It’s funny, the joy i get now is watching kyle do the same thing with harrison.

Diane: Oh, and we also had some good times by the pool.

Jack: Oh, kyle loved the water.

Diane: Oh, yeah, and phyllis was always lurking around in the background, keeping her eye on me, making sure I wasn’t honing in on her territory. Oh, I — I guess that’s one of those memory lane boulders you were talking about.

Jack: [ Sighs ]

Adam: Thanks for coming by to meet with me here. I hope I didn’t keep you waiting.

Victor: What is so important you wanted to discuss?

Adam: Well, in light of victoria’s decision, I think that we should talk. You know, if she’s to run off with locke…

Victor: It’s not a question of “if.” I just ran into that son of a bitch. She is leaving with him.

Adam: So there haven’t been any new developments?

Victor: Not that I know of.

Adam: Well, there are a couple of positives. He’s out of newman and he’s leaving town.

Victor: Yeah. He’s leaving with victoria. The guy’s latching onto her like a leech. She’s just lost all her senses. Now she’s gonna leave this company, leave our family.

[ Sighs ] It’s just the whole thing is inconceivable to me. I’m gonna get that bastard if it’s the last thing I do. -Fixed. -That’s my son.

“The young and the restless”

will continue. Got lingering odors?

Jack: You even bringing up phyllis proves this was a mistake to join you.

Diane: Jack, please.

Jack: Our history is too fraught to have pleasant conversation, as I predicted.

Diane: I apologize. I — I didn’t realize that bringing up phyllis would upset you like this.

Jack: Oh, it’s a lot more than that, and you know it. Reminiscing about that period of our lives is going to set off emotional fireworks of all kinds.

Diane: You’re right. I…I was out of line back then, but I —

Jack: We don’t need to go through all that.

Diane: No, no, let me say this.

[ Sighs ] I’m sorry for who I was and what I did. For taking kyle away so that you missed quality time with your son during his formative years. For — for abandoning you so that you had to raise him alone. For being petty and unkind and selfish. I’m sorry that I wasn’t stronger and braver in how I handled things. You deserved better than that. Jack, I have so many regrets and I have so many amends to make to all the people that I’ve wronged. But you have to believe, you are at the top of that list.

[ Sighs ]

Summer: So what other rescuing has been going on today?

Kyle: Chelsea’s just being nice about me butting in on what was none of my business.

Chelsea: That is not true. Your husband walked in on adam and I having a discussion, which quickly could have escalated into an ugly argument if kyle hadn’t shown up.

Summer: I bet things are tricky with adam these days.

Chelsea: Oh, things are always tricky with adam.

Summer: I have a feeling that there’s something more to it. When you guys interrupted the two of us, sally was clearly intimidated by you.

Chelsea: She has everything she could want right now. She couldn’t possibly be intimidated by me. Or could she?

Summer: Well, I’m guessing she did something to blow up newman fashion, which is such a shame, ’cause I really wanted to see what you and chloe were gonna do.

Chelsea: It actually wasn’t her fault that it shut down. That was a corporate decision when newman/locke bought newman media.

Summer: But still, it couldn’t have been easy working with sally.

Chelsea: I mean, it wasn’t all bad. Most of our arguments were usually about where we should put our focus.

Summer: Let me guess — her focus was on adam.

Chelsea: I don’t want to gossip.

Summer: But…

Chelsea: But she was the worst person you would ever want to work with. I mean, everything became about her. And then once she got her claws into adam, who was the boss, it all just became very uncomfortable.

Summer: I’m not surprised. She is a world-class opportunist.

Chelsea: Yep. But I don’t want to bad-mouth her. Let’s just say I am a lot happier working with chloe on our own to produce an exclusive line for fenmore’S.

Adam: Look, I understand why you’re so upset. You have invested a lot of time and energy and love into victoria. You’ve groomed her to take over the company, only to see her self-destruct. I mean, she’s been given every opportunity, and she’s just throwing it away.

Victor: Yeah. You know…I’ve only always wanted…what’s best for my children. I raised you all to be strong and self-possessed adults.

Adam: Of course. And yet, victoria, she’s lost her way. I know that has to be the most painful thing for you. You know, it’s always been clear to me and everybody else that you have viewed her as the heir apparent, so I know this has got to be an especially hard reckoning.

Victor: Yep.

Adam: And I’m not saying that out of self-interest. I’m not trying to take a jab at victoria. You know, after all, I’m the one that made the deal with locke, so I’ve done my part to get rid of the guy. But her decision to walk away from the family and the company after all these attempts to help her to be viewed as unwelcome meddling, I just — I don’t know how we reach her.

Victor: You know…I’m coming around to your way of thinking.

Adam: She’s headstrong. It’s usually a gift, but in her case, it seems to be a curse.

Victor: I just can’t get through to her, to make her realize that if she walks off with that son of a bitch and marries him, god forbid, it’ll have consequences. What if she fails? Comes back a broken woman? Your sister’s getting involved in something that may be irreparable. An irreversible mistake. Time. It’s life’s most precious commodity,

Summer: So you and chloe are happy with your partnership at fenmore’s?

Chelsea: Totally. Lauren has been wonderful to us.

Summer: When is the new line dropping? Have you settled on a price point yet? Are you doing all of the designing yourself or are you collaborating with fenmore’s in-house team?

Chelsea: This is starting to feel like an interview. What’s going on?

Kyle: Go ahead. You can tell her.

Summer: Jabot is buying marchetti. We’re relocating headquarters to genoa city.

Chelsea: Wow, that’s huge. Summer, that’s so exciting for you.

Summer: I know. We are so happy that everything is finally falling into place. But kyle and I were thinking about a collaboration between fenmore’s and marchetti.

Kyle: Especially when you consider we will own all of marchetti and jabot will own almost 50% of fenmore’S. Makes for greater profit margins.

Summer: Lauren’s on the board, so she knows that jabot is acquiring marchetti, but we haven’t talked to her yet about fenmore’s being an exclusive distributor, so this is just between us.

Chelsea: Of course. Of course, but why are you asking about the design side and process?

Summer: I just wanted to get a feel for things. It’s been a while since I worked in fashion in genoa city, and you are at the heart of it.

Chelsea: [ Chuckles ] Well, I’m intrigued. I love the idea of possibly working with you. Both of you.

Jack: Thank you.

Diane: Thank you. And thank you for joining me today. I’ve been spending a lot of my time alone. Guess I’m no one’s idea of a fun lunch companion.

Jack: It’s got to be pretty lonely.

Diane: [ Sighs ] Maybe. But it’s honest. Back in la, I hid my past. I was living a lie. I — I couldn’t get close to anybody because of it. And here in genoa city, I am dodging grenades, but I have to earn my conversations and my companionship. I have to face the damage that I’ve done, head on.

Jack: That is your mission.

Diane: Yeah. It’s going to take a while, i think. But being here with you today and talking about kyle and harrison and being open about my past, it…

[ Exhales sharply ] …Almost makes me feel normal. And gives me hope for my future. I have you to thank for that.

Lily: Hey. Everything is falling into place. The launch is gonna go off without a hitch. The pr team is doing great. We’re gonna get a ton of media coverage. I’m really happy with their work.

Billy: Yeah, that’s great. Everybody’s doing a great job.

Lily: Are you okay? Something happen?

Billy: Victoria was just here, and she informed me that she’s leaving newman and genoa city.

Lily: What? Why would she do that?

Billy: Because she’s forgiven ashland locke and she’s fleeing town with the man. The man that lied to her for months about dying from cancer in order to get control of her company. And he has now somehow convinced her that he is sorry for his mistakes, and she’s not only accepting of that but she’s fleeing town with him to start over, abandoning her entire life here. I don’t understand any of it.

Lily: Yeah, I don’t either, but I thought you decided to take a step back and let her family deal with it. I thought you realized that she can live her life the way that she wants to.

Billy: Yeah, that’s fine. But this is different. I mean, this is everything i feared. This affects my kids. She’s taking them god knows where, living under the same roof as ashland locke. I’m not okay with that. I don’t want my kids anywhere near that monster.

Lily: Okay, honestly? Enough is enough.

Dry skin is

sensitive skin, too.

Adam: Maybe victoria won’t fail.

Victor: Of course she will. There’s no future success involving ashland locke, i promise you.

Adam: That may be true. But she might surprise us all. She’s giving up a lot, but she is resourceful and she is smart. She could find a way to flourish out of your shadow. And who knows? Maybe this is her destiny — start over. In fact, maybe it’s an opportunity for everybody. Maybe this is a reset for the entire family. Maybe we could get out of the roles that we’ve been set in for so long and we can become something greater.

Victor: Maybe so.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ]

Ashland: I am ready to go.

Victoria: Me too.

Ashland: Looks like you’re traveling light.

Victoria: Yeah, I know, but, well, once we get settled in new york, I’ll just send for the rest of my things.

Ashland: Mm. You’re sure about this?

Victoria: Absolutely, I’m sure. Why do you ask me that?

Ashland: Well, your father stopped by for a visit. His fury was something to behold.

Victoria: Did he intimidate you?

Ashland: No. Not at all. It was sad, though, I think. You see, I’ve been emboldened by your love, but I also understand what it means to lost that love and the pain it can cause. That’s what I saw in your father’s eyes. He’s afraid he’s going to lose his beloved daughter.

Victoria: Well, he’s the one that drove me away.

Ashland: That’s exactly what I told him. And at some level, I think he knows that. But, victoria, as angry as you are at your father right now, your connection to your family runs deep. Victor’s gonna take advantage of that.

Victoria: That’s why we need to leave now. I just — I want to start somewhere fresh, outside of my father’s reach.

Ashland: I agree. I just want you to understand this is gonna be difficult.

Victoria: I understand that. I do, and I’m ready for it. The only problem that I have right now is billy. Turns out that he wants to fight me on custody.

Ashland: See, we talked about this. I can’t let you risk losing your kids.

Victoria: It’s okay. Billy does not have a leg to stand on, and I’ll fight him back twice as hard. I just — I hope that it doesn’t get too ugly.

Billy: I agree with you. Enough is enough. I’ve tried to be patient with victoria’s feelings for ashland. I’ve tried to live and let live, but I’m done. I’m putting my foot down. I need to do what I need to do to protect my kids from their mother’s bad decision.

Lily: I wasn’t talking about victoria, billy. I was talking about you.

Billy: What about me?

Lily: This is victoria’s decision to make. You can’t penalize your kids for it.

Billy: I’m not penalizing my kids. I’m protecting them, because ashland locke is dangerous.

Lily: Ashland is not a physical threat to johnny and katie, and you know that and you know victoria would never put their lives at risk.

Billy: I used to know that, but she’s not thinking clearly. We know what ashland locke is capable of, how far he will go. I don’t want my children to be the ones to find out.

Lily: This is not about your kids. This is about your inability to let go of victoria. Honestly, billy, it’s like you try to seize any opportunity you can to remain her protector. I mean, you know how much it bothered me in the past, and now, honestly, I am so fed up with this twisted push-and-pull routine. I am — I’m not putting up with it any longer.

Kate: You told abigail that lucas was the one who kidnapped sami?

Chad: I did.

Kate: Why did you do that?

Marlena: It was so good to see will. I miss him already.

Lucas: Yeah. Well, he’ll be back soon. It’ll be nice to have the whole family together.

Marlena: , That’s– that’s exactly what he said.

Lucas: Did he?

Marlena: He did.

Lucas: Hm.

Marlena: Yeah, before he left for the airport. And, in fact, he used that exact phrase, “the whole family.”

Lucas: Ah-huh.

Marlena: Uh-huh. And then roman gave you a wry little smile and said something about planning a party?

[Cell phone buzzes] Oh, looks like I have to get to an appointment. So you’re off the hook– for the moment.

Lucas: [Laughs]

[Sneaky music]

Shawn: Is there a problem with the couch?

Jan: It’s okay, I guess.

Shawn: Well, you’ve spent entire days on it before and you haven’t had a problem.

Jan: Today is different. Today, I have my first appointment with marlena.

Shawn: So?

Jan: So normally a patient travels to their therapist’s office, not the other way around. Of course, I can’t do that because of the bed rest and high-risk pregnancy, not to mention this lovely piece of jewelry.

Shawn: Look, if you think I’m taking that thing off of you–

Jan: No, I fully accept that I’m under house arrest. Houseas not designed for a person who’s about to undergo a major psychological breakthrough. With that said, I can make sure that the conditions are as close to perfect as possible.

Shawn: Well, like you said, it’s your first session, so I’d keep my expectations low.

Jan: I know I won’t become mentally healthy overnight. But mark my words, I will get there. I will be the mother our baby deserves.

Belle: I was just returning your robe. I didn’t know you were in here.

Ej: Obviously not.

Susan: Oh! Well, I’ll be. Th-there it is again.

Abigail: There’s what again?

Susan: Abigail, I just got this feeling, you know, this very powerful feeling that there is a foreign presence among us. Yeah, there’s someone here that’s not supposed to be in this house.

Abigail: Huh. Well, maybe it’s the tooth fairy.

Susan: Say what?

Abigail: Well, thomas said he was down in the basement playing hide-and-seek with his sister, and he ran into the tooth fairy.

Susan: [Groans] She and I are not on good terms.

Abigail: You had a falling out with a fairy?

Susan: She owes me a buck fifty for my wisdom teeth. Hmph. Do you think she’s flittering around down there still because, you know what, I’d like to have a word with her.

Abigail: You know, I think I’m gonna go down there and I’m gonna take a look.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Shawn: Thank you for making time to see jan.

Jan: Yes, dr. Evans, thank you so much. I have a really good feeling about this. And I promise I’m gonna be the best patient you’ve ever had.

Marlena: We’ll take it one step at a time and see how it goes.

Shawn: I’m gonna head out. I’m gonna, you know, give you two some privacy, okay?

Jan: Will you be at the police station? I’m not stalking him. I just like to know where he is in case something happens with our baby.

Shawn: Actually, I was gonna head to your place, marlena, see if belle’s there. See if I can get her to reconsider the separation papers that she had me just sign.

Marlena: Um, belle’s not at our place.

Shawn: Where is she?

Belle: I should go, and you should get dressed.

Ej: Did harold send up that breakfast tray? The steak and eggs I can’t wait for you to try.

Belle: Uh, no, actually, it seemed to have disappeared.

Ej: Disappeared?

Belle: Yeah, cook said he prepared the tray, and harold went to go get it, but it wasn’t there.

Ej: How odd.

Belle: Yeah. I don’t know what happened.

Ej: Perhaps a hungry little fairy stole it.

[Both laugh]

Abigail: I’m gonna go see if I can find this tooth fairy.

Susan: In that creepy basement?

Abigail: Yeah, thomas said he ran into someone who made him promise to keep quiet.

Susan: That’s very strange.

Abigail: It is, which is why I’m gonna go and I’m gonna check it out. So will you just let the nanny know where I am?

Susan: You sure you don’t want me to go down there with you? Like I said, I do feel a presence, and it could turn out to be mean, mean, mean.

[Cell phone rings]

[Shrieks] Jeez louise! That thing scared the dickens out of me! Ooh!

Abigail: Ugh. Statesville. Hello? Yeah, I’ll accept the charges.

Gwen: Abigail, I’m so glad you picked up.

Abigail: What do you want?

Gwen: I need to see you.

Abigail: Well, I don’t ever want to see you again.

Gwen: Look, I know that you hate me, but I’m hoping you’ll still come to see me today anyway. Please, it’s extremely important. With relapsing forms of ms,

[Smooth rock music playing]

Lucas: Hey, can I get a refill?

Clyde: Oh, sorry, man, I’m just about to take my lunch break. Care to join me?

Lucas: No. No, I don’t drink. But I thought that was you. I thought I saw you sneaking around the kitchen last night. I said to myself, “no way clyde weston works here, no way.”

Clyde: Well, gainful employment is a condition of my parole, and roman needed a cook.

Lucas: He couldn’t find someone more qualified to fill the position? He had to pick someone who terrorized the whole damn town?

Clyde: Nah, that’s all behind me. I’m a family man now. And from what I can tell, so are you. Saw you in here with your daughter last night.

Lucas: Yeah, that’s right. You can stay the hell away from allie, all right?

Clyde: No, no, I just meant to say that I couldn’t help but overhear part of your conversation. Sounds like you had a little dustup with ej dimera.

Lucas: Yeah, I did. What’s it to you?

Clyde: [Laughs] I ain’t defending the guy. In fact, you might say that any enemy of ej’s is a friend of mine.

Lucas: Really? Why would you say that? You had a problem with ej?

Ej: It seems the morning is quickly getting away from us.

Belle: Yeah, you know, I should get out of your hair. I’m sure you have a busy day.

Ej: Not as busy as I’d like since gabi is still in charge of dimera.

Belle: Ah. Yeah, I can’t believe your sister voted to retain her as ceo.

Ej: And chad and I have no intention of letting that stand, believe me.

Belle: Good. Well, maybe we can strategize about gabi and clyde weston?

Ej: You haven’t told anyone, have you?

Belle: What, that clyde weston had his sidekick shoot you, leave you for dead, and then let everyone believe some random mugger did it? No, I haven’t told anyone.

Ej: Good, because as I’ve told you, turning in clyde isn’t an option.

Belle: I know. I understand.

Ej: But I do have a plan to exact my revenge.

Belle: Yeah, so you say. But I think you should scrap that plan and let me come up with a way to bring clyde to justice legally.

Ej: Of course, of course. Tell you what. Since you’ve missed out on breakfast, perhaps we can scare you up some lunch.

Belle: Or we could call it brunch, and I could try that steak and eggs after all.

Ej: You won’t regret it.

[Soft dramatic music]

Marlena: Belle and I had a bit of a problem last night.

Jan: Oh, dear. Not about me, I hope.

Marlena: Yes, in fact, it was. Belle found out that I was treating her, and she was upset, and she didn’t come home last night.

Shawn: Where did she go, the salem inn?

Marlena: Uh, no. Actually, she spent the night at the dimera mansion.

Shawn: I got to go.

Marlena: Wait, shawn, wait!

Kate: Did we not just have a conversation about this where I said “do not say anything about the kidnapping?” And then you tell your wife?

Chad: I didn’t have a choice.

Kate: Don’t give me that. Don’t give me that. This is all about your guilt over the fact that you let your brother take the blame for a crime he didn’t commit, and then, what, it doesn’t matter at all what happens to lucas?

Chad: It’s not like that.

Kate: Okay, okay. So why don’t you tell me what it’s like then, why you would do something so incredibly stupid?

Chad: Because abby wanted to find out who really kidnapped sami. She wanted to make it her next investigative piece.

Kate: Okay. Why didn’t you just talk her out of it, chad?

Chad: I tried, but she refused to let it go. And then one of her leads panned out, she was able to track down the other henchman that lucas hired to kidnap sami.

Kate: The one who left town?

Chad: Yeah. He was arrested in wisconsin, unrelated charges. Abby had planned to go to milwaukee today to talk to him. I wasn’t gonna let her just leave the state to go find out the truth when I could tell her myself.

Kate: You just don’t know that she was going to find out the truth.

Chad: The guy was gonna talk, kate.

Kate: No. You don’t know that. You don’t know that he would open his mouth. Why did you?

[Scoffs]

Gwen: Abigail, please, I’m begging you. Can you please come out here today? I never would’ve phoned you, I promise. I never would’ve if it wasn’t really urgent.

Susan: Oh.

Gwen: H– hello?

[Sighs]

Susan: You didn’t say goodbye.

Abigail: [Sighing] Hmm. No, I didn’T.

Susan: May I ask who was on the horn?

Abigail: It was my sister, gwen. She wants me to come down and visit her in the prison, says it’s important.

Susan: It’s a good thing you put the kibosh on it. I wasn’t getting a good feeling.

Abigail: No, neither was I, but I never do with her. Damn it.

Susan: What? What’s wrong?

Abigail: She’s just– she’s in my head now, and I can’t help wondering what it is she wanted.

Susan: [Spluttering] You’re not gonna go down there, are you? Remember, curiosity killed the kitty cat.

Abigail: Well, then I guess it’s a good thing I’m not a “kitty cat.”

Susan: Oh, yeah, that’s what they all say.

Marlena: Shall we begin?

Jan: We shall. Can I ask you just a– a very quick question first?

Marlena: Go on.

Jan: Are belle and ej officially together now?

Marlena: Jan, if you’re not gonna be serious about this, I will not be treating you.

Jan: Oh, no, no, I am very serious. I just–it’s what you said before about belle spending the night at the dimera’S. I assumed she’s with ej, and so I was just curious how you felt about it.

Marlena: This conversation is about you, not about me, and certainly not about belle. Do you understand?

Jan: Yes. Forgive me, I’m just a little nervous. I just really need this to work, so I can be a good mother to my baby.

Marlena: Is that the reason you’re doing this?

Jan: Of course. I told you that. I thought you believed me.

Marlena: Well, I’d like to, but a part of me is afraid this might be a performance on your part, that you might be pretending to want therapy in order to appease shawn. And of course using me in the meantime to further that relationship.

Jan: No. I’m doing this for myself and for my baby. That is it. I swear, no other reason.

Marlena: Given your obsession with shawn and your attempts to try to break up shawn and belle, you can understand why I might be a little reluctant to believe you.

Jan: I do. But I can assure you, dr. Evans, that is over.

Marlena: All right. Well, if I see any sign at all that you are up to your old tricks, these sessions will end.

Jan: There will be no signs, I promise. All I want is to get better, just like ben weston did. And he told me that being in therapy with you was what really helped him more than anything.

Marlena: Ben’s worked very hard.

Jan: Right. And he explained to me that in order to get past the terrible things he did, he had to face them head-on.

Marlena: That’s true. And it wasn’t just a matter of ben thinking about what he had done. He had to think about how he’d hurt people. He had to empathize with them. He had to feel their pain. Are you willing to do that?

Jan: Yes. I’m more than willing to–

[Cries out]

Marlena: What is it?

Jan: Oh!

Marlena: What’s wrong? Jan–

Jan: I’m feeling their pain, and mine too. Oh, god! Oh, god!

Ej: [Clears throat] Uh, mother?

Susan: Huh?

Ej: Mother.

Susan: Oh, what? Oh, you don’t–don’t mind me. I’m just–I’m feeling for tooth fairy vibes.

Ej: Naturally.

Susan: Now, belle, I understand that you stayed over last night.

Belle: Uh, yes. I–how did you know that?

Susan: Oh, it wasn’t premonition, I can tell you that, but no, it was harold. Harold told me. Wh–ooh. Hoo. Ah, sheesh. I’m sorry, just getting–

Ej: Now what? Mother, what are you doing?

Susan: I’m sensing something. Just hold on.

Belle: Tooth fairy vibes?

Susan: Oh, no.

[Laughing] A different kind! Whoo!

Ej: And what kind is that?

Susan: The kind that tells me that something is going on between the two of you. Is there something going on between the two of you?

Shawn: You know, I’d like to know the answer to that myself.

Chad: Yeah, you’re right. I should’ve just stood by and done nothing while my wife went off to confront a violent felon about his role in a criminal conspiracy. What was I thinking, putting a stop to that?

Kate: Okay, okay. I get your point.

Chad: Thank you.

Kate: Don’t thank me yet though because I am going to need assurances that she doesn’t tell a soul.

Chad: She won’T.

Kate: All right, I– that’s not enough.

Chad: Kate, I need you to trust me on this.

Kate: Well, I need more then.

Chad: Like what? What, do you want me to have my wife sign a nondisclosure agreement?

Kate: Hm.

Chad: I was joking.

Kate: Well, I’m not joking, because it’s about lucas’ freedom. He could go to prison, chad.

Chad: For the last time, abby is not gonna say anything to anyone.

Kate: How do you know that?

Chad: Because she promised me she wouldn’T.

Gwen: Abigail. You came.

Abigail: Yeah, you know, it was the strangest thing. After I hung up on you, I realized I really did want to see you. I kind of missed you, gwen.

Gwen: Really?

Abigail: Of course not. What could I possibly miss about you? Your vicious lies? The endless number of ways you hurt people that I care about?

Gwen: Then why did you come?

Abigail: Because you said it was important. So I thought maybe you were gonna finally tell me what actually happened with my grandmother.

Gwen: That’s still eating away at you, is it?

Abigail: Whether or not you murdered her in cold blood? Yeah. It is, because I, unlike you, have some sense of humanity and decency.

Gwen: Well, sorry, sis, this isn’t about laura. It’s about somebody else who’s very, very important to you, someone that I’m sure you would not want to get hurt.

Abigail: I have zero interest in playing games, gwen. So tell me why I’m here or I’m gone.

Gwen: It’s about jack.

Abigail: What did you do to my father?

Gwen: Our father.

Abigail: What did you do?

Gwen: Oh, god, relax.

Abigail: Relax? You just– you just said he could get hurt.

Gwen: Yes, well, he can if he’s not properly celebrated.

Abigail: What?

Gwen: If I’m not mistaken, tomorrow is his birthday.

Abigail: And?

Gwen: Well, I can’t exactly throw him a party, can I? Or take him out for a nice meal. But I just–I– I want him to know how much I care for him and that I wish I could be with him and send him my love. So I made him a gift. And I’m hoping that you can deliver it to him.

Lucas: What’s your beef with ej?

Clyde: Did I say we had a beef?

Lucas: You implied you were enemies, so–

Clyde: Well, that’s probably too strong a word. See, I brought him a business proposition a little while ago, a very lucrative one. He turned me down cold, so I guess you could say I’m deeply disappointed.

Lucas: You’re tight enough with ej that you can pitch him business ideas?

Clyde: Well, we were cellmates at statesville for a while, got to know each other pretty well. That boy’s a talker, he is.

Lucas: Oh, I’ll bet. Bet he talked about himself the whole damn time, didn’t he?

Clyde: Actually, he talked a lot about you. He didn’t have a lot of nice things to say either.

Lucas: He talked about me? Why?

Clyde: He had to vent.

Lucas: About what?

Clyde: About your wife’s kidnapping. Wouldn’t shut up about it. Day and night, swore he was innocent. Said he shouldn’t be in prison. But that you should be… since you’re the one who really did it.

Belle: Shawn, what are you doing here?

Shawn: What, me? What are you doing here? Your mom said you stayed the night.

Belle: Well, she shouldn’t have; it’s not your concern.

Shawn: You’re my wife.

Belle: Well, we’re legally separated, so I’m under no obligation to tell you where I sleep, especially when you have a psychopath living in our house.

Susan: A psychopath?

Belle: Oh yeah. Jan spears. Haven’t you heard? She’s pregnant with shawn’s baby.

Shawn: It’s not what you think, okay? Look, belle, I know– I know that you’re upset.

Belle: No, I was fine until you barged in here and started interrogating me.

Shawn: Nobody is interrogating you. But, you know what, susan just asked a very good question. What’s up with you and ej?

Ej: You don’t have to answer him.

Shawn: Do you mind? I’m speaking to my wife here.

Susan: In my son’s house.

Ej: Thank you, mother, but I can handle this. You want to know what’s going on? Well, I’ll tell you. After a series of deeply upsetting events, belle needed a place to be to feel safe and comfortable. She chose to come here. And you’re welcome to stay for as long as you like. Now we were about to have brunch, so you can see yourself out.

Shawn: I was right.

Belle: About what?

Shawn: About why you wanted to get separated. You said that this had nothing to do with you and ej. And then five minutes after I sign those papers, boom, you move in with him.

Belle: I did not move in with him; I’m just staying here.

Shawn: Oh, are you seriously trying to argue semantics, counselor? Belle, you and I both know damn well what’s going on here.

Belle: Nothing is going on here except me trying to find a place I can stay where I don’t feel betrayed and/or insulted!

Shawn: Oh, and you sure figured that out, didn’t you? Oh, or maybe ej figured that out. Oh, and I’m sure that he is so pleased with himself, ’cause I know that he’s been trying to steal you from me for a while now. And you know what? He succeeded.

Belle: Shawn, you are so wrong.

Shawn: No, I–no, I am right on the money. Come on, let’s face it. All right, you go from– from working with him to living with him, and now? And now you’re sleeping with him, aren’t you?

Jan: Ah! Oh, god, it hurts! It really hurts!

Marlena: Can you describe the pain?

Jan: It’s terrible pain. Like nothing I’ve ever felt before. Help me, please.

Marlena: Jan, try to stay calm.

Jan: How can I stay calm? Dr. Evans, I think I’m in labor.

[Crying out] We hit the bike trails every weekend

Abigail: You made dad a gift? Hm, well, here I thought you were only capable of making trouble and misery.

Gwen: I happened to work very hard on this gift. I had to start it over three times just to get it right.

Abigail: You’re serious? You actually made something? What the hell is that?

Gwen: What’s it look like, abigail? It’s a mug. You know, for tea, coffee?

Abigail: Poisoned champagne?

Gwen: I made it in art therapy. Look, it says “dad” right there.

Abigail: [Laughing]

Gwen: Really? Really, you’re laughing?

Abigail: It’s just so pathetic.

Gwen: Will you give it to jack or not?

Abigail: Why don’t you just mail it to him?

Gwen: Mail it to him from here? Really? It would take months if I did that. Or he might not even get it at all.

Abigail: Something tells me he might be okay with that.

Gwen: Look, it might not be a cashmere sweater or a gold watch, but this was the best that I could do, okay? And jack has been very kind to me. He’s gotten justin to help reduce my sentence. So I just–I just want to show him my gratitude.

Abigail: Well, you know, you could always try not committing more crimes or not being the biggest bitch who ever lived.

Gwen: My god, you are doing this all just to punish me, aren’t you? You want our dad to think that I forgot about his birthday while you, what, get to all celebrate together in the horton house?

Abigail: Dad’s in boston.

Gwen: Oh. Well then, you being the perfect, lovely, great daughter of his then aren’t you gonna go fly out there and be with him on his birthday?

Abigail: You know, actually, I was thinking about flying up there to surprise him.

Gwen: Well, that’s great then. You can just put my gift in your carry-on bag, can’t you? Look, I know you hate me. But jack doesn’T. And he’s all I have left. So it would absolutely mean the world to me if you could just please just do this one favor for me. Please give him the mug.

Abigail: Okay. Yeah, fine. I’ll take your mug.

Gwen: Thank you.

[Tense music]

Abigail: Whoops.

Kate: Okay, so abigail promised you that she wouldn’t say anything. Why didn’t you tell me that right away?

Chad: Look, she hates lying. But in this case, she understands that it’s for the greater good. She doesn’t want to destroy my relationship with ej, and she doesn’t want to send her uncle lucas to prison. She knows it would destroy her mother.

Kate: Well, I mean, that’s an assurance, but it’s not a guarantee, right?

Chad: Well, it’s as close as you’re going to get.

Kate: Oh, my god.

Chad: You’re lucky I told you. I didn’t even have to.

Kate: Why did you tell me, chad?

Chad: Why else? Because I’m an amazing guy, heart’s as big as all outdoors.

Kate: Actually, that’s true, you know.

Chad: Yeah, right.

Kate: No, it is. I know that I’ve given you a number of reasons not to give a damn about me and, well, it seems like that you still do.

Chad: Yeah, I do. And I know this involves your child, and I can relate to that, so I want you rest assured you don’t have to worry about lucas. Okay?

Lucas: Ej told you I kidnapped sami, huh?

Clyde: Oh, yeah. Said it was a frame job. No doubt about it in his mind.

Lucas: Well, you know what? I’m not surprised, because when a person can’t live with their own guilt, they project their feelings onto others. So, you know.

Clyde: You could always sue him for slander. That is, if what he says is not true.

Lucas: I’m not taking ej to court. I don’t need that messy court battle. Plus, I don’t need the money right now anyway.

Clyde: Hm. Must be nice. You know that business opportunity I mentioned earlier, might be a blessing that ej turned me down.

Lucas: Why’s that?

Clyde: ‘Cause I think you’d be a much better partner.

Jan: [Groaning] Oh, god! This is the worst. Please help me.

Marlena: Okay, well, just try to stay calm. We’ll figure out what we’re dealing with. That’s good.

Jan: [Groaning]

Belle: I am not sleeping with ej. I’m sleeping by myself in a guest room. And the only reason I am is because I can’t spend another night at my mom’S.

Shawn: Okay, look, I get that you’re upset with marlena. But belle, you could’ve gone to the salem inn. You could’ve gone to any hotel. You knew that coming here would send a message.

Belle: Oh, well, I’m sorry I wasn’t really thinking about messaging. I was too busy dealing with the shock of being utterly betrayed by my entire family!

Shawn: Oh, belle, come on! Everybody is on your side. You’ve got to know that.

Belle: Oh, really? How would I know that? I mean, I was already living my worst nightmare. You know, the woman who has been terrorizing me for decades is having my husband’s baby and living in my house. And now my mom wants to be her therapist. And my husband and my father just go along with it.

Shawn: Jan needs help. She needs it. And if she doesn’t get it, that innocent baby is gonna suffer. Look, as hard as it is, I’m praying–I’m praying that your mom succeeds– for everyone’s sake.

Susan: And she will, she will. Dr. Marlena can work miracles. Okay, I’m sorry. It’s none of my business.

Belle: All right, fine. Let’s look at a fantasy future where jan is all better and isn’t a homicidal maniac anymore. What then? What? We’re all just gonna live happily ever after?

[Cell phone ringing] I’m sure that’s her now.

Shawn: No, it’s actually your mother. When I left the house, they were just starting their first session.

Belle: Oh. Well, maybe she’s calling to say she’s all cured.

Shawn: Marlena, hey. What’s going on? Is everything okay? Yeah. Okay. Yeah, I’m on my way. Okay. All right. I got to go to the hospital.

Belle: What? Why? What’s wrong?

Shawn: Jan’s in labor. We women are in the know about everything.

Clyde: You know that opportunity I mentioned. It’s very lucrative. You put a little money in, you take a whole lot out. You interested?

Lucas: I’d say there’s no way this opportunity is legal. So I’d like to stay out of prison.

Clyde: So far, so good, huh?

Lucas: Sorry, what was that?

Clyde: I’m just saying that if you change your mind, you know where to find me. And I got to say, if ej were going around saying that I’d committed a crime and I didn’t, I wouldn’t be too happy about it.

Lucas: I’m not happy about it either, but there’s nothing I can do.

Clyde: Oh, there’s always something you can do. You might just need a little help doing it. So who knows? Maybe we could help each other.

Lucas: Maybe.

Clyde: You think about it.

Gwen: What the hell did you just do that for?

Abigail: You should be thanking me; I put that thing out of its misery.

Gwen: That thing was a gift for our father, and you just deliberately destroyed it.

Abigail: You destroy everything that you touch! You hardly have a right to complain!

Gwen: What is wrong with you?

Abigail: With me? Are you joking? You tried to ruin my life! And when it didn’t work, you decided to torment me forever about the death of my grandmother! And you have the audacity to ask me for a favor?

Gwen: You didn’t have to bloody break it!

Abigail: Honey, you’re lucky that’s all I broke.

Gwen: It’s okay. I’ll just make another one.

Abigail: Great. Make a whole damn set. Lord knows you’re gonna have plenty of time for it.

Gwen: You selfish bitch! I am going to make you pay for this!

Abigail: Hm. Mm-hmm.

[Laughs]

Belle: Did he just say jan’s in labor?

Ej: I’m so sorry, belle.

Susan: I think I’m gonna shove off now.

Ej: What do you have planned for today, mother?

Susan: Uh, nothing.

Ej: Then you should join us for brunch.

Susan: Uh, no, thank you.

Ej: Not hungry?

Susan: Oh, no, I’m–I’m as hungry as a horse. It’s just I don’t want to be the third wheel on the buggy, if you catch my drift. Oh, elvis, I–I’d like to remind you of something, you know, the same thing that that dreamy detective reminded you of before. Huh? Belle brady– you know, mrs. Belle brady here, is still married, and you are still married to her sister. And I know, I know–I know your samantha has moved on, but I don’t think you have, son. And I am not the teensiest bit convinced that you are over her. So there. So.

[Playful music]

Shawn: Yeah, that’s right, ms. Spears didn’t violate the terms of her arrest. Her ankle monitor went off because she was admitted to the hospital. I’m on my way to see her right now. Yeah. Yes, I will– yes, I’ll clear everything up with her probation officer as soon as possible. All right. Thanks. Where’s jan?

Marlena: She’s just been admitted. She’s in a room up the hall.

Shawn: Okay. Thanks. With depression, you just feel…blah.

Kate: Lucas? What the hell are you doing?

Belle: [Sighs] God. No matter how hard I try to wrap my head around it, I just– I just can’t believe that jan is at the hospital right now about to deliver my husband’s baby.

Ej: It does seem as though you just learned she was pregnant.

Belle: Yeah. I’ve known longer than I’d like. But she went into labor a lot sooner than she was supposed to. This baby’s gonna be very premature.

Ej: Well, then, maybe there’s a bright side. Maybe this child won’t survive.

Jan: Shawn, thank god you came.

Shawn: Yeah. Of course I did.

Jan: It’s too soon. The baby can’t come yet.

Shawn: Look, it’s okay, all right? The doctors are gonna take good care of you.

Jan: And what if something happens? I already love this baby more than anything in the world. And I’m scared. I’m so scared, shawn.

Shawn: Everything’s gonna be all right, all right? I’m here. I’m right here.

Chad: So gwen asked you to bring a mug to your father, and you smashed it to bits?

Abigail: I dropped it. You know me. Butter fingers. It was an accident.

Chad: Really?

Abigail: Nope. Nope, did it on purpose. Gwen was not too happy about it. In fact, I would say she was positively horror-struck.

Chad: I bet. What’d she say?

Abigail: Only that she would, wait for it, “make me pay.”

Gwen: [Breathing heavily] It’s gwen. Who else would be bloody phoning you from prison? Look, I need to talk to you about abigail. If I don’t get to spend my father’s birthday with him, then neither does she.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

carly. Hey. Oh, great. You got my message. Yeah. What’s up? Well, I mean, it’s been a while since we’ve talked about your investigation into esme, and trina’s trial’s coming up, so… yeah, it’s even more important that we nail esme for making the video of joss and cam and putting it online. Right. So, what do you got? Fond or fraught? Your thoughts. Whatever they are, you’re totally absorbed. Wanna share?

[ Door closes ] Disappeared on me again. I promise not to make it a habit. I was just mailing a letter. So you haven’t changed your mind and decided to move out? Why would I do that when things are so much better between us? I thought you might have regrets about last night — agreeing to live with my father and ava. No regrets. Your father’s just been wonderful. Well, like father, like son. Something like that. Hey. Hey. Busy day. No more than usual. I got a client coming to pick this up later. Okay. Well, can you talk? Sure. What’s up? We are leaving port charles. You agree that I should suefor what you did? Never thought I’d hear you admit guilt. I’m recording this for posterity. No, no, no, no, no. You don’t want to sue me. I’m not the one you have the problem with. You made an unsafe parachute landing, dragged me in the pool. I was drenched…

[ Chuckles ] …Hemmed in by the parachute. I could have easily drowned. I’m pretty sure my problem is with you. All right, well, while you can drown in a few feet of water, most of the victims tend to be either unconscious or alone. And you were neither. Well, maybe we should let a jury decide. Here — look, you’re going about this all wrong. You don’t want to sue me, and you don’t want to claim some near-drowning that did not occur. No, what you want to do is go by the classic tale of corporations trying to take advantage of the little guy, or gal. Now, britt, you tell me. You the type of woman to stand for that? No!

[ Pills clatter ] What the hell just happened?

I have a lot on my mind since yesterday. I do, too. I can’t believe how close we came to ending our marriage. I’m just…relieved that we came to our senses before we jumped off that cliff. You left early this morning. Is everything okay? Yeah. I just had some work at the gallery. Did I wake you? No, it’s just nice having you in my bed again. Sleeping in the same bed feels like an important step, even if we are taking things slow. We have some things to work out. And we will. I know. I know we will. I love you too much not to. Mm. I love you, too.

[ Door opens ] Love is all around. Isn’t it wonderful? I’ve always wanted to study abroad, and I just figured, why wait, you know? We’ve been through so much freshman year. Going away just feels right. Sure does. We can head to europe next spring. That sounds great, joss — look, volleyball season will be over. You know, submissions — they’re due early next semester. Florence and barcelona — they’re my top two picks right now. They’re both great. But, you know, there’s other options that we can explore. Joss, stop. Why? I thought you’d be into this idea. I would love to go to florence or barcelona. But by next spring, I could be expelled from pcu or in prison. Probably both. I may have a lead on someone close to esme. Okay. Greetings and felicitations, lovely ladies. How are you two delightful women doing on this glorious day? More new clothes, huh? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Uh, do they meet with your approval? They’re nice. Nice. That — that’s — that’s the most gracious compliment you can muster? Nice? Uh… well, I was really used to your old look. Oh. Well, new look, new me. Hey, did, uh, sam tell you about the occurrence at the society setups event yesterday? Uh, the hotel staff filled me in. A skydiver crashed the party. Yeah, and straight into britt westbourne. Who was completely unharmed, by the way. Um, but I — the advent of the skydiver, right? It was — was pretty wild.

[ Chuckles ] What’s even more wild is the skydiver happens to be an old friend of dante’S. They went to summer camp together. His name is cody, but dante whisked him away from britt. And the three of us had dinner at charlie’S. Oh, wait, you did? I — I’m p-pretty sure I saw — pretty sure I saw dante put handcuffs on him and take him to the pcpd. No, no, it never actually got that far. Dante acted like he was arresting him for britt’s benefit. Oh, thank goodness. I-I just mean it wasn’t that poor man’s fault that he fell into britt. He didn’t do it on purpose.

[ Cellphone rings ] Yeah. Ooh. Uh, gotta take this. Yes? Is it just me, or is there something off with spinelli? No, it’s not just you. I noticed it at the fundraiser. Something is definitely off with spinelli. And it’s not just the wardrobe. I’m listening. What happened to you was wrong. My stunt never should have gone that far. And you know whose fault it is? Yours.

[ Chuckles ] I was a mere cog in the corporate wheel.

[ Scoffs ] The corporation being? Metro court, of course. Yeah. I mean, they were supposed to protect my landing zone. Instead, they let you and anyone else just walk right through. Did they hire you for the skydiving stunt? No, no. That would be society setups. They actually rented this whole place. They engineered the stunt, lured lonely schlubs like yourself here with free drinks… excuse me? Who calls anyone a schlub? …And orchestrated this dangerous marketing ploy in front of a party full of vulnerable losers. T-the metro court is responsible for the safety of all of its guests. The corporations have all the money. You need to take back your power, lady. Sue their socks off. It’s aspirin for my headache. Gladys: Aspirin? Right. Aspirin. Why did you slap it out of sasha’s hand? Well — well, the — the baby shoes were delivered, and — and — that she — she backordered them before liam, um…

[ Stammers ] And brook lynn took them… and she’s gonna donate them to charity. Sasha, I’m — I’m so sorry. I’m fine. Hey, it was just an accident. It’s no big deal. I’ll get a broom. But it is a big deal. What did you think sasha was taking?

Hey, we’ll talk about spinelli in a minute. I was about to give you an update on esme. Great. Come on. Sit down. Okay. Okay, so, you have a lead? Well, it’s a long shot, but esme had a nanny who helped raise her after her adoptive parents died, and apparently they were pretty close. Sounds promising. Yeah, I just — I haven’t been able to locate the nanny yet. Do you have her name? Maggie fitzgerald. I’m working on tracking her down, but all I have is that she was somewhere in london, and I don’t have an address yet. How did you find out about this maggie fitzgerald? Well, I have a source who is very familiar with esme’s upbringing, and the source said that esme and maggie had lost touch at some point. But this person also tells me that there’s more to the story. That’s great. Do you think this nanny will give us some dirt on the real esme? Yeah, well, I’m hoping so. I just have to track her down first. Well, can’t you ask your source? Who is it, anyway? Sorry for intruding. Esme and I should have knocked first. No need. This is your home. And I’m glad you decided to stay, even if you were bribed into doing so. Mm. The important thing is that we’re all here together. I totally agree, ava. Any big plans today? I was thinking car shopping. Since I’ve regained access to my trust fund, I’m looking for something new and italian for my girl.

[ Chuckles ] But first, esme and I have some errands to run, so… and, uh, we really must get going. It was nice seeing you. Ava: Not so fast. No one is going anywhere. Not until we hash things out. I truly believe that you’re gonna be found not guilty, especially because cam and I are gonna testify on your behalf. Look, I’m not trying to make light of the trial. I know that it’s gonna be rough, but this will give you something positive to look forward to. I mean, even if you’re right, there’s still a title ix investigation. You have a copy of the report. You know how bad it makes me look. Yes, I know. I flipped out when I read it. My mom made me sit down with diane because I knew the whole thing was total bull. I wanted to do something to correct it. What did diane say? She said that it was a finding of facts, so I can’t challenge anything in there if I wasn’t misquoted in my interview. And you weren’T. Oh, I’m afraid I wasn’T. But diane also said that just because something looks bad, it doesn’t mean that we know what the determination’s gonna be.

[ Sighs ] I’ve been so afraid of getting expelled. I’ve been only reading the worst in the report. Look, diane also told me that there’s no guarantee that pcu’s gonna expel you. You know, they could decide to offer you a sanction, you know, suspend you for a semester. I don’t know. Maybe. I-I told rory I just need to not think about it, just look for a distraction. Wait. You told rory? Why? What would you do if you were me? Oh, no, no, no. I’m — I’m not gonna go there. Oh, humor me. I’m giving you permission. Okay, well, hypothetically speaking, first I’d hire a good lawyer. Then I’d find a killer witness. There were a lot of people at the party, and the whole thing was recorded. Yeah, I mean, I was thinking someone more directly connected to society setups, someone with insider knowledge, you know, someone who could really hold up when their feet are put to the fire. Someone like you?

[ Chuckles ] You didn’t want sasha to take those pills. Why not? Gladys thought that I was back on drugs. The habit-forming kind. Your mother believes that I have relapsed. Why do you think sasha’s abusing pills? Because she knows that I’ve been having a hard time, with liam and then the accident with harmony miller, plus all the pressure from the ipo launch of deception. Gladys…overreacted. Um, some of sasha’s behavior triggered my memories of when you were struggling with addiction, how you would do anything for a fix. And when I saw sasha with the pill bottle, I got the wrong idea. And it is the wrong idea. I’ve told gladys before, there’s nothing to worry about. Wait, wait, wait. You’ve had this conversation before with my mother? Is that why you’ve moved in with us? Are you using again?

If your lawyer subpoenaed me, then I’d have to tell the truth. They’d probably want to know about zelda telesco. What’s a zelda telesco? You don’t know zelda? She’s the matchmaker who runs society setups. Ha! See — ugh. This company clearly cares more about lining their own pockets than getting you a date.

[ Scoffs ] Who knows how many other washed-up women zelda’s preyed on besides you? What’s your point? Point is, okay, if your lawyer subpoenaed me, I’d have to tell the judge about my meeting with zelda, the one in which my concerns about the skydiving stunt were left unheeded. And you would be eager to do that? No, no, I’m not eager. I don’t want bad blood with any employer. But I’d have to. I’d never lie under oath. Of course not. You get yourself a killer witness, you can win a big settlement.

[ Sighs ] And would this star witness want a percentage of my settlement in exchange for betraying their employer? I mean, who knows what motivates people? I know what motivates you. I told you, I’m not using drugs anymore. But I — I did move in because I was afraid sasha would relapse. And I wanted to prove to gladys that her fears were unfounded. Okay, why didn’t you come to me?

[ Sighs ] I didn’t want to worry you. And neither did I. Sasha I understand, but not you, ma. You’ve had no problems worrying me in the past. Don’t blame gladys. She confronted me with her suspicions, and I admitted I was having a hard time. Gladys was doing me a huge favor by keeping quiet. Look, if you were wrong about sasha, ma, why did you still move in with us? Because my mother wasn’t wrong. Okay. Um… listen, we’ll talk to dr. Collins, and we’ll find out what our options are together. Options? Yeah, so he can refer us to a good rehab facility or something outpatient here, maybe a group, whatever works — brando, no. Listen, you need all the support from us that you can get. I don’t need this kind of support. Listen to your wife, brando. You were the one that slapped a pill bottle out of sasha’s hands. I mean, you’ve kept things from me. What am I supposed to think? After all the lies you’ve told me, you owe me this one. Carly, you know I can’t reveal my source. You said it yourself that esme is dangerous. She’s crossed lines. I get it. I get it. You can’t risk esme finding out and retaliating, but if this was something I needed to know…? I would tell you. You’re worried about spinelli, aren’t you? It’s just, he’s not acting like himself. And then all of a sudden, he’s dressing like that. And that is not cheap. Well, do you think it’s because ellie left him? I don’t know. We haven’t really spent a lot of time together. Maybe he’s lonely, or maybe he’s missing his friends. But spinelli has always had his own unique style, which I loved. And this — this is… I don’t know. It’s different. It’s flashy, like he’s trying to be someone he’s not. Did you talk to him about it? Yeah, of course I did. He promised me nothing dangerous was going on. Oh. Well, that looks volatile to me. Rory and I hung out yesterday.

[ Chuckles ] Details, please. The only details that matter is that when he took me home — rory took you home? My dad was there and totally humiliated me… oh. …By telling rory that he’s breaking an unwritten rule of cop-dom by spending time with me while I’m waiting for my trial to start. What did rory say? Rory was great. But all the distractions in the world won’t change the fact that I have a criminal trial and a title ix investigation hanging over my head. I-I can’t visualize the future the way you do. I can’t think about classes or studying abroad or even this job and my friends. Not when things could be different by the end of the summer. Look, I don’t care what happens. I’m always gonna be here for you. And it sounds like rory will, too. If I’m in pentonville, the pcpd could order him to stay away from me. And while I appreciate your loyalty and support, I noticed that you left out cam. Yeah, well, I’m not sure if we can count on cam anymore. Ava: The four of us will be cohabitating for the foreseeable future. And I don’t think there’s a need to pretend there won’t be difficulties. Nikolas and I will be working on our marriage, and in the spirit of reconciliation, I think that we should all truly make an effort to get along. Absolutely. We should all want to be closer. And I, for one, am willing to do whatever it takes to make that happen. Whatever you say, ava. Thank you. Now, spencer and i have an arrangement. I give him an allowance from his trust fund in exchange for living here and working things out with his father. But I want to be clear about something. The allowance depends on how both of you behave. Ava, I-I’m confused, I thought the deal was between you and spence. Well, as long as you’re living here with spencer in our home, the deal must include you. Nice, ava. Just like you to change the terms of our agreement on a whim. Both of you have done horrible things to me and to people I care about. I’m just giving you a friendly warning. If either of you reverts to past behavior, the deal is off. You think I’m responsible for something that I-I didn’t do. What happens the next time your precious little trina lies about me? Are you kicking me and spence off to the streets? That won’t happen. You would do well not to mention trina’s name in my presence.

[ Chuckles ] I am not your puppet, ava. Don’t you dare try to control me. And if I do?

[ Indistinct arguing ] Should we step in? Yeah. Let’s go. Okay. Oh, ladies, uh, to what — to what do I owe the pleasure? Nice try, spinelli. I almost called security. Who was that guy? I — no — no one of concern. Uh, we saw what was going on, and it was very concerning. You are clearly in trouble, so I want you to stop lying to me and tell me what’s going on now. Did something happen between you and cam? It is nothing compared to what you’re going through. Forget comparison. There’s obviously tension between you and cam. You’re my friends. I care. So tell me all of it. Okay. Well… I think that there’s something cam’s not telling me, and he says there isn’t, but, trina, I swear there’s something going on. Any ideas? Well, it’s about spencer and esme. Cam’s attitude just makes no sense. He claims he knows esme’s guilty, but there’s never any follow-through. Well, cam gave spencer a second chance. Maybe he just feels stuck in the middle. No, it’s more than that. You know, cam’s not telling me something, and that’s bad enough. But what if he knows something that can affect your trial and he’s holding back? Why do you think he’d know something? Because I told him that we should break up spencer and esme, and he snapped at me and said we can’T. Did he say why? None of it made any sense. He just kept doing backflips to change the subject. And then later he texted me that he would set spencer straight about esme. Then I haven’t heard from him since. Look, we don’t need cam, okay? We can break spencer and esme up ourselves. You’re wrong. We can’t do that. Go on, esme. Tell me to go to hell, and then you can watch as spencer’s allowance dries up and he’s back to waiting tables at kelly’s, maybe with you taking orders right beside him. And why should you get to decide what constitutes good and bad behavior? ‘Cause I control the money. Okay, enough. I thought we were moving past the animosity. You and spencer — you came to an understanding. We don’t need to push the envelope. I’m sure that we can trust that esme will do the right thing. If we could, I don’t think she’d be so resistant. That’s enough, ava. I agreed to your terms. You’re the one changing the rules last minute to spite esme. But I love my father, and I don’t want to hurt him. So I’ll agree to your 11th-hour change. That’s fine. Thank you, spencer. All I want is what’s best for spence and mr. Cassadine. If you’ll excuse me. I need a martini. Maybe a double. I’ll get some ice. I was hoping you’d come find me. Who’s washed up now? What was that for? You really think I’m some lovelorn loser in the market to buy what you’re selling? Just trying to help. Help yourself, you mean? But I’m on to you. It’s gonna take a lot more than your pathetic pitch to get one over on me. Britt westbourne? Zelda telesco. I’ve been looking for you. Society setups zelda telesco? The one and only. I’ve been looking for you, too, cody. Yeah. Yeah. What’s going on between you and dr. Westbourne? Cody was just practicing his moves in preparation for his next party. Do you have my check? After I speak with dr. Westbourne. I gotta dry off, anyways. Let me buy you a drink and discuss yesterday’s unfortunate incident. Oh, you mean my total humiliation? That unfortunate incident? I’m here to make that all go away. When have i lied to you? After you came home from iraq and started using. Anyone with eyes could see you were spiraling out of control. But you insisted you were fine and said that

i was melodramatic for asking if you were taking drugs. You lied to me to my face every single day. I’m sorry. Yeah. So when I sawthe same signs in sasha and realized she was struggling, it scared me. I didn’t want to fail her the way I did you. And I thought I was also helping you because what’s best for sasha is best for you. Ma, can, um… can sasha and i have a minute? We made a vow, remember? For better or for worse. And I plan on sticking to that vow, no matter how dark it gets. I know. It’s one of the reasons why I married you. So please be honest with me. Is there any truth to my mother’s concerns?

I assure you both, there’s nothing to worry about. Too late. Spinelli, I’m worried. Hey, look, if you have crossed the wrong person, call drew. I know he will be happy to help. I mean, that navy seal background can be very persuasive, spinelli. Alright, I — that’s nice, but it’s — it’s fine. E-everything is — everything is under control. Spinelli, how long have we known each other? I mean, I know when something is wrong with you. Something is definitely wrong with you. I think that we should sit here and talk about it for as long as it takes. I think that’s a good idea. I’m seeing a therapist. Huh? Well, after my breakup with ellie, I — I’ve — I-I’ve been lonely, and I wanted to seek some professional help. So you meet your therapist here at the metro court? Well, that — that wasn’t my ther– that wasn’t my therapist. I, um — we were having a-a billing issue, and, um, doctor… my therapist sent a collection agent after me, and — and I surely did not handle that as well as I could, and that’s what you saw. But all — all is — all is settled now. All is — all is good, so, um… but time is a-wasting. Mm-hmm. So I must be off, but you — you two have a super day. Mm. Are you buying that? Not even a little. Breaking

up spencer and esmeis our best shot at isolating esme and proving that she framed you. Without spencer there to protect her, she’s gonna lose nikolas and victor and spoon island — and she’ll leave town because she knows she has no reason to stay in port charles. Esme knows she set me up. She knows we’re on to her. She’s also smart enough to know without the cassadines, she has nothing to fall back on when we prove her guilty. You really think she’ll just disappear? Slip through the cracks, hide away in some place where no one can find her, which is why spencer and esme need to stay together. But she set us both up. Trina, she put my private moments on blast and then framed you for it. What? We’re supposed to just let her get away with that? Now that you’ve had a day to process what happened between us, how are you feeling? Honestly, I’M… still a little overwhelmed. I’m sorry I let my emotions get the better of me just now. Ava took you by surprise. She has a way of doing that to people. Will our relationships ever normalize? I mean, everything’s so… complicated. Things are working between me and ava, just like they’re working between you and spencer. And what happened… between us — we were both hurting. We were looking for comfort, and… it doesn’t mean anything more than that. Right? Oh. Absolutely. I love spence, and you love ava. I meant it when I said they never have to know. I care about you, nikolas, and I don’t want what happened between us to complicate your life. Or yours. I’m going out later this afternoon. Do you need me to… pick anything up from the p-pharmacy? I have it all taken care of. I promise you, I want everything to work out. Since you felt free to renegotiate our deal, I have some changes of my own. Mm, don’t push it, spencer. Release me from my restitution at the gallery now. Why? Because it’s bad enough that I’m gonna be living here with you, forced to act civil, and now that extends to esme?

[ Exhales deeply ] I’ve repaid my debt to you. You haven’t begun to pay for the terror you put me through. You want esme to behave, don’t you? Working at the gallery with trina is only gonna provoke her more. After everything esme has done, her feelings are the last thing I care about. Then care about trina’S. You really think she wants me around while she’s with… that guy? What guy? Zelda: On behalf of society setups, I am mortified over what happened to you at our event. With all due respect, miss — zelda, please. You’re not half as mortified as I am. Being knocked into the pool by your skydiver — I won’t live that down. Cody is a bit rough around the edges. I should never have hired him in the first place. Whatever. I will no longer be attending any of the society setups events again. You’re frustrated that my service hasn’t been successful for you. How about I make it up for you by offering you the next six months for free and making you my top priority? I promise, you won’t have to waste any more time being alone. My check?

[ Sighs ] I’ll be in touch. Son of a bitch. Gladys

isn’t wrong abouthow much I’ve been struggling with deception going public right after losing liam and then the accident with harmony. Of course that tested your sobriety. But you didn’t have to hide it from me. I wasn’t using, so there was no need. I told you, gladys overreacted. Are you sure?

[ Sighs ] I don’t need that kind of help anymore. Not when I have this wonderful new life and the most amazing husband in the world. Including his shockingly caring mother-in-law?

[ Laughs ] Gladys has her moments. Believe me, brando. I — I don’t claim to be happy all the time. My life is good. My days are full of more good than bad. And right now,

you are my drug of choice. I’m still worried about you. And I need to do something about it.

I left to get ice. I should do that before ava wonders what happened to me. Then go. But, nikolas? I can tell keeping our secret from ava is taking a toll on you. And if you change your mind and decide that you need to tell her what happened between us, I’ll support you. You won’t be alone. The cop who’s been hanging around the gallery. Officer cabrera? He’s the one I’m referring to. Oh. The officer who is keeping trina from being harassed after your girlfriend made a sex tape of joss and cam and — and framed trina for it and then posted it for everybody to see — that cop? Cabrera’s interest in trina is far more than professional. And this creates such a problem for you that you — you can’t do your restitution at the gallery? Oh, so this attempt to work things out with esme — your heart really isn’t in it. You don’t know what you’re talking about. I love esme. Oh, you did, maybe, at one point. But I think now you’re — you’re far more invested in your feelings for trina. And they’re only growing. You don’t think that it kills me that esme believes that she’s winning? She’s not getting away with what she did to me, to us. But we’re playing the long game here, josslyn. And we’ve been going crazy trying to figure out how to get the proof against her. We just have to keep thinking. Something — something out of the box that we haven’t thought of before.

[ Cellphones chime ] It’s pcu. The title ix determination has been made. We should postpone our reception. Look, it’s one more stressful event that you don’t need right now. Life is stressful. But celebrating our marriage with friends and family would only make me happy. You aren’t just saying that? I want to show you off.

[ Laughs ] Besides…I love you. I love you, too. Okay. The reception goes on as planned. Thank you.

[ Both chuckle ]

[ Mouthing “thank you” ] Check shorter than you hoped? Yeah, well, the deal was my skydiving fee plus hotel accommodations and amenities. Zelda shorted me the $500 in amenities. You need to know anything else about how this company screws people over? You spent $500 in amenities? All right, skydiving’s very hard on the body. I needed a massage, and you can’t have a massage without wine. Right. Probably shouldn’t be drinking alcohol. Massages are dehydrating, and tap water is free. You’re really enjoying this, huh? You have no idea how much. Not all of us are rolling in money. You could just sue. Good luck finding a killer witness as desperate as you.

[ Slurps ] Something wasn’t right about spinelli’s meeting with that so-called bill collector. Yeah, but spinelli seeing a therapist does make sense. We were just saying that he might be lonely. Yeah, but spinelli’s getting money from somewhere. I mean, what billing issues could he possibly have? I don’t know. Maybe it was a misunderstanding. Big enough for the therapist to send a bill collector here to the metro court? I mean, come on. Therapists don’t do that. I mean, they call. Yeah, I know something’s not right, but what?

[ Sighs ] I don’t know. You know what? We need to take spinelli out and have him open up to us. We’ll take him hatchet throwing. Okay. Yeah. That — that sounds like a plan, because it is not like spinelli to keep things from me. Yeah, but this is spinelli we’re talking about. I mean, he can’t be in any real trouble. It’s handled. Britt westbourne won’t be a problem.

[ Sighs ] Good. It’s important that no one knows what I’m really up to.

[ Buzzer sounding ]

Sheila: Finally. Someone that can tell me why I’m here. I– I didn’t have any meetings scheduled with my attorney.

Baker: Well, I thought you’d appreciate getting out of your cell for a little bit, sheila. But, I’m happy to hear that you’re enjoying the accommodations.

Sheila: Can you jusasou my attorney to come in? Maybe she’s got good news for me.

Baker: Your attorney’s not here. There’s not much she can do for you anyway. We got your confession. We got the gun that you used to murder your son and to shoot steffy forrester.

Sheila: I don’t have to listen to this. Would you just tell me why I’m here?

Baker: You’ve got yourself a visitor.

Carter: This shouldn’t be a problem. Ridge and I are covering for steffy while she’s away. Zende said he’ll take on a few things as well.

Quinn: Yeah. After what steffy’s been through, I don’t blame her for wanting to get the kids out of L.A.

Carter: Yeah, I think we’re all still in a state of shock about the whole situation.

Quinn: Yeah, what sheila did was unspeakable. I mean, she ended a man’s life in an instant and it was her own son.

Carter: It reminds me of how precious life is. You really can’t waste a moment. So, I made my decision, quinn. I’M… I’m moving on, starting today.

Grace: I like that one of you two.

Zende: Dr. Buckingham, hey.

Grace: Oh, so many cute photos of you and paris.

Zende: Yeah. Yeah. We’ve had a lot of fun times together.

Grace: You can still make wonderful memories together. It’s not over. I see how much you love my daughter.

Grace: You’re not fooling me. It’s obvious you still have feelings for my daughter.

Zende: I’ll always care about paris, but she has made it clear that she is not interested in anything serious with me.

Grace: But there’s so much potential there. Potential for something real. And not like this silly crush she’s got on carter.

Zende: I am not sure that it’s just a crush.

Grace: Whatever you wanna label it, it’s not good for my daughter. It’s not good for paris. Carter had an affair with your grandfather’s wife. With quinn. He almost destroyed zoe, so no. A good mother knows what’s best for her children and that is you. You are a good man, zende, so don’t give up on her. And I will not let paris try to make a life with carter.

Carter: I know how I feel about you and I know how committed you are to your marriage.

Quinn: Making my marriage work is what matters most to me right now, carter.

Carter: I understand that now. You don’t want to hurt eric and neither do I. And that’s why I have to let you go for good, quinn. I can’t– I can’t go on like this any longer.

Quinn: Does this mean you’re going back to paris?

Sheila: I’m not in the mood for any visitors. The person I wanna see is my son.

Baker: Well, you should’ve thought of that before you put a bullet in him. Finn is dead, sheila, and unfortunately, none of us are gonna be seeing him again.

[ Buzzer sounding ]

Sheila: Li. What are you doing here?

Li: I had to see it with my own eyes. You, locked up in this hell hole. How does it feel, sheila? Knowing you will never be free again? I’ll make sure of it. You will pay for what you did to my son. (Asaad) when I was little,

Grace: Just give yourself and paris another chance.

Zende: I really did think that paris and I could have a future together.

Grace: And you can. It’s not too late, zende. Please. Come on. The door is still open.

Zende: At this point, I’m starting to wonder.

Grace: I can’t blame you. Paris has been giving mixed signals.

Zende: Dr. Buckingham, I don’t know what to tell you. It seems fairly clear to me that carter is the man that paris wants.

Grace: I know deep down inside, she has to know that he isn’t right for her.

Zende: Either way, that is not for me to decide. Paris is a strong, independent woman. She has to decide for herself.

Grace: If she would just get her head out of the damn clouds and start thinking clearly. I’m afraid she’s already been sucked in by carter just like… just like her sister was.

Zende: I don’t know about all that, but I told paris and carter that I would not stand in their way.

Grace: No! Come on, zende. Buck up! You have to keep fighting for paris, please! You have to keep fighting–

Paris: Mom. Stop. Look, I’ll always care about zende. He’s a great guy. But he knows how I feel about carter.

Carter: I know you’re devoted to eric and won’t jeopardize ruining your marriage.

Quinn: I owe that to him, carter.

Carter: And I owe it to him, too. Somehow, he found itithi w himself to forgive us, quinn, but it doesn’t mean I still don’t dream about wanting you. But I won’t interfere with your marriage ever again. And as for paris, well, she’s very intuitive. She’s already picked up on a few things.

Quinn: That doesn’t mean you have to jump back into a relationship with her.

Carter: Paris can cause problems for you if she goes back to eric. She can make him wonder if we’re sneaking around.

Quinn: But we’re not!

Carter: We know that. You just regained eric’s trust. I don’t want him to have any reason to doubt you again.

Quinn: I don’t want that either.

Carter: Exactly. So I have to stop paris from doing this to you. I have to shut it down.

Quinn: But– I– so– so you’re going to sacrifice your happiness by getting involved with a woman that you don’t love? No! Don’t do it, carter.

Baker: I’ll give you a moment alone. Once again, dr. Finnegan, I am sorry for the loss of your son.

Li: Thank you, chief baker.

[ Buzzer sounding ]

Sheila: If you’re here to lay into me, you may as well just save it.

Li: Oh, I haven’t even begun to give you a piece of my mind, sheila.

Sheila: I’m hurting too.

Li: You’re always playing victim, are you?

Sheila: I miss finn more than anything. And I’m– I’m paying for it now. I’m here, aren’t I? I– I am owning up to my mistakes.

Li: Because you have no other choice.

Sheila: Yeah, I’m really struggling here, li. I don’t have anyone to support me.

Li: I, I, I. Me, me, me. What a pathetic, selfish woman you are. I knew you were sick, but to shoot the man that you gave birth to? Then the mother of your grandchild?

Sheila: I didn’t mean to hurt him. I loved him. More than anything and I am haunted by what I did that night. All I ever wanted was… a chance to bond with him and hayes. And things were going so well. I– I was actually starting a relationship with him. Yeah, but now… my precious boy… I just can’t believe that… finn is gone forever. Everyone remembers the moment they heard…

Paris: I’m so sorry, zende.

Zende: No worries. It’s all good.

Paris: No. It’s not. My mom shouldn’t be in our business like this and putting you under so much pressure.

Zende: Paris, seriously, it’s okay. But, I feel like I should let you two talk. I’m not getting in the middle.

Grace: Zende, you don’t have to leave.

Zende: Really, it’s fine. I have some work I have to get done.

Paris: Mom, come on. That was embarrassing. I– I’m not a child. You can’t keep meddling in my life like this.

Grace: Sweetheart, I’m only looking out for your own best interest here.

Paris: You’re not understanding. I don’t need you to play matchmaker and think about how zende feels. You’re only making it worse for him.

Grace: I’m only trying to help.

Paris: No. Mom, stop. I can’t hear this today. I– I think you gotta leave.

Grace: Paris, come on now, sweetheart–

Paris: No, mom, I have– I have a lot to get done today. We can talk about this later.

Grace: Okay. I understand. I will go.

Paris: Thanks, mom.

Grace: But, I gotta say this. I think you’re headed for trouble.

Quinn: You don’t really want paris.

Carter: Because you know the woman that I really love. And I mean it, quinn. More and more everyday, but I know this– this– this between us, it can’t happen.

Quinn: No, it can’T. It’s– it’s a– it’d just be another betrayal to eric and to ridge. Do you really think they’re gonna forgive you for stealing zende’s girlfriend?

Carter: I’ll figure it out.

Quinn: Oh, come on. Listen to yourself. This is already so messy. Why are you putting yourself on the line for this woman? You– carter, you’re an incredible catch. You can have any woman on this planet.

Carter: Paris is beautiful. She’s incredibly intelligent, she’s talented, she’s caring, she has a lot of amazing qualities, quinn. I’d be lucky to be with a woman like her.

Quinn: Can you trust her with your heart?

Carter: I have to give it a shot.

Quinn: No, you don’t!

Carter: Don’t– don’t– don’t do that. Do not stand here knowing the way I feel about you telling me who I should be with.

Quinn: Carter.

Carter: No, no. Paris and I, we had something and even if it was just me trying to bury my feelings for you, even if that’s what I’m doing right now.

[ Carter sighing ]

Quinn: Carter, I hate to see you like this. I hate to know that I hurt you this badly.

Carter: Look, eric is totally committed to you. And I’m happy for you. I am, quinn, but I want that for myself.

Quinn: You deserve it.

Carter: And that’s why I’m doing this. That’s why I’m doing this, quinn. I’m tired of being alone, okay? I have to get on with my life.

Sheila: You’ve gotta hear me out. I– I never meant to hurt finn. It was– it was a terrible, terrible accident. I can’t live with myself like this. I don’t sleep at night knowing that I took the life of my boy.

Li: He is my boy. Mine. He will always be mine. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for finn. Nothing. For copd,

Paris: Carter?

Zende: I’ll make sure pierre schedules that meeting. I know steffy usually handles that kind of stuff, but we’ll all have to pick up the slack now that she’s gone for awhile.

Quinn: Steffy is too young to be a widow.

Zende: Yeah.

Quinn: You know, eric is so worried about his granddaughter. We just– you know, we all just want her and the kids to be okay.

Zende: Luckily, they realized it was sheila before she could hurt more people.

Quinn: I always knew she was dangerous, but this is next level psychotic.

Zende: Yeah, good thing she’s behind bars, off the streets, can’t ruin anymore lives.

Quinn: Hopefully, we never have to see or hear from sheila carter ever again.

Sheila: I never got to say goodbye to finn, see his final resting spot.

Li: And you never will.

Sheila: You don’t mean that.

Li: Oh, I do. More than you know.

Sheila: That breaks my heart.

Li: Yeah, I’m sure it does. You’re just angry that steffy didn’t die, leaving hayes without any parents.

Sheila: I would’ve raised my grandson.

Li: What a– what a horrifying thought that is. Thank god that precious baby will always be safe from you.

Sheila: I am not a monster, you know?

Li: You just keep telling yourself that, because you’re the only one who believes it.

Sheila: Finn believed in me. He believed I was a good person. Up until the very… last moment.

Li: God, you are delusional, aren’t you?

Sheila: Are we done yet?

Li: I heard they’re transferring you to a federal facility while you await your trial.

Sheila: Yeah, that’s what I’ve been told.

Li: I needed to see you before they shipped you away. In that jumpsuit. The loneliness in your eyes. That’s where you belong, sheila. Behind a barbed wire fence in a cold prison cell. That’s where you’ll be for the rest of your miserable life. And when the trial begins, I will be testifying and I will make sure that you rot in prison until the day you die!

Sheila: You are starting to get on my nerves.

Li: I don’t care. What you did was pure evil. Finn is a wonderful, young man.

Sheila: Is? Don’t you mean was?

Li: Yes. And he’s gone because of you, sheila. At least I know that finn is in a place where you will never hurt him again.

Officer: Time’s up.

Sheila: You haven’t seen the last of me.

Officer: Come on, sheila. It’s time to go.

Sheila: Mike.

Interview with Joel Kinnaman

TV Interview!

Joel Kinnaman of "For All Mankind" on Apple TV+

Interview with Joel Kinnaman of “For All Mankind” on Apple TV+ by Suzanne 6/2/22

It was great to speak with Joel. He’s one of my favorite actors, ever since “The Killing.” He’s wonderful in every show or movies he’s in. I only had 5 minutes to speak with him, but it was still great.  If you’re not watching this show, you should be…especially if you’re a fan of sci-fi or history. It’s a little slow at times but definitely worth the wait. Season 3 starts June 10! Keep reading below the interview for more information about Joel and the show.

Suzanne: So, can you tell us about your character this season?

Joel: Yeah, so,  we’re three decades into “For All Mankind,” and Ed Baldwin’s journey… You know, it’s fascinating to get to play someone over three decades. It’s a big chunk of a life. And, I think 10 years ago (something like that), I read a summary of this big study that three American universities (and I’m blanking on which ones they were), but they did this big study on personality where they studied personality over four decades. And what they realized was that every 10 years we’ve basically become a new person. That’s how much we change. So it was very fascinating to get to portray that. And, of course, we feel similar inside because we still carry the experiences, but we basically become new people. So that’s something that’s very present in my mind when I go into a new season here… you know, we change so much, but at the same time, we’re the same.

On our show, it’s been such a great journey on this because at the end of the first season, I think it was pretty hard for people to understand what the show really was, you know, because it doesn’t really reveal itself until the second and third season. I kept saying that on interviews after the first season: “Look, this is what it is now, but this is not the show.” It’s not like “Mad Men,” you know, in a NASA environment. This show is going to move really quickly in time. And every season is going to jump. It’s going to end up being the most grounded sci-fi show ever made. That’s where this is headed, and there’s going to be…there’s no official link, but at the end of this show, [it answers the question] how do you get from the space race of the late sixties to “Star Trek?” And “For All Mankind” might have something with that.

Suzanne: Hmm. That is interesting. Yeah. Thank you. I know you have to avoid spoilers, but is there anything in specific that you can tell us about what Ed goes through this season? I watched the first few episodes. I haven’t watched the rest yet, but…

Joel: Well, you know, Ed lost his son and, and then he lost his best friend. And his best friend’s son, Danny, was best friends with his son. So Danny should become his son [in Ed’s mind]. And that’s how Ed sees him, you know? Ed views him like, this is a chance for you to become my son. It has the potential to heal the wound and the void of Shane and also to give love and respect to his best friend, Gordo. But Danny’s just a different person and, and he doesn’t view Ed the same way that Ed views him. And I think the journey between Ed and Danny over the course of the third season is so fascinating. Also, because, you know, Danny’s very fascinated with Karen, Ed’s wife. Um, Fascinating. [In character] He’s fucked my wife! Ed doesn’t know about it, but…

Suzanne: Right. (Laughs)

Joel: (Laughs)

Suzanne: Well, thank you so much. I really appreciate you taking the time to talk with us today.

Joel: (Laughs) My pleasure.

Suzanne: All right. Talk to you later.

Lucas points out that he’ll be back soon and it will be nice to have the whole family together. Marlena points out that Will said that exact thing before he left for the airport. Jan complains that the house is not designed for a person who is about to go through a major psychological breakthrough, but she wants to make the conditions as perfect as possible. Shawn advises her to keep her expectations low. Jan knows she won’t become mentally healthy overnight but vows to get there and be the mother that their baby deserves.

Belle goes to EJ’s room, where he is coming out of the shower in just a towel. Belle says she was just returning his robe and didn’t know he was in there.

Susan enters the living room of the DiMera Mansion and tells Abigail that she got a powerful feeling that there is a foreign presence among them. Susan states that there is someone here that’s not supposed to be in this house. Abigail tells her about Thomas saying he ran in to the tooth fairy in the basement. Susan complains about not being on good terms with the tooth fairy and says she’d like to have a word with her. Abigail decides she’s going to go down there and take a look.

Marlena goes to see Jan. Jan and Shawn thank Marlena for making time to see her. Jan has a really good feeling about this and promises to be the best patient Marlena’s ever had. Marlena says they will take it one step at a time and see how it goes. Shawn says he’s going to head out to give them some privacy. Jan asks if Shawn will be at the police station, explaining that she likes to know where he is in case something happens with their baby. Shawn reveals that he was actually going to Marlena’s to see if Belle is there to try and get her to reconsider the separation. Marlena informs him that Belle is not there so Shawn asks where she is.

Belle tells EJ that she should go and he should get dressed. EJ asks if Harold sent up her breakfast tray but Belle says it seems to have disappeared. Belle doesn’t know what happened. EJ jokes that perhaps a hungry little fairy stole it…

Abigail tells Susan that she’s going to see if she can find the tooth fairy. Susan worries about the basement. Abigail says that Thomas said he ran in to someone that told him to keep it quiet. Abigail decides she’s going to check it out and tells her to let the nanny know where she is. Susan offers to go with her. Abigail then gets a call from Statesville Prison. It’s Gwen, who says she needs to see her. Abigail responds that she never wants to see her again. Gwen knows she hates her but she hopes she will come see her anyway, insisting that it’s extremely important…

Lucas sits at the counter of the Brady Pub and asks for a refill. Clyde turns around and says he’s about to go on his lunch break. Clyde invites Lucas to join him but he declines, noting that he doesn’t drink. Lucas says he thought that was Clyde when he saw him around the kitchen last night but he thought to himself there’s no way that Clyde Weston works here. Clyde explains that gainful employment is a condition of his parole and Roman needed a cook. Lucas questions not finding someone more qualified and having to pick someone who terrorized the whole town. Clyde says that’s all behind him and he’s a family man now. Clyde mentions seeing Lucas with his daughter last night. Lucas tells him to stay away from Allie. Clyde says he couldn’t help but overhear part of his conversation and it sounds like he had a little dust up with EJ DiMera. Lucas confirms he did and asks what it is to him. Clyde responds that any enemy of EJ is a friend of his. Lucas questions why he’d say that and if he has a problem with EJ.

EJ tells Belle that the morning is quickly getting away from them. Belle says she should get out of his hair as she’s sure he has a busy day. EJ says it’s not as busy as he’d like since Gabi is still in charge of DiMera. Belle can’t believe Kristen voted to retain Gabi as CEO. EJ assures that he and Chad have no intention of letting that stand. Belle suggests they can strategize about Gabi and Clyde. EJ asks if Belle has told anyone that Clyde’s man shot him and let everyone believe some random mugger did it. Belle confirms that she hasn’t told anyone. EJ reminds her that turning in Clyde is not an option but he does have a plan to get his revenge. Belle thinks he should scrap his plan and let her think of a way to bring Clyde to justice legally. EJ offers her lunch since she missed breakfast. Belle suggests brunch which EJ agrees to as she exits the room.

Marlena informs Shawn that she and Belle had a bit of a problem last night. Jan hopes it wasn’t about her. Marlena confirms that it was as Belle found out that she’s treating Jan and she was upset and didn’t come home last night. Shawn asks if she went to the Salem Inn. Marlena reveals that she spent the night at the DiMera Mansion. Shawn decides he has to go and rushes out of the house while Jan watches with a bit of a smile.

Kate reminds Chad that she just told him not to tell anyone about the kidnapping. Chad feels he had no choice but to tell Abigail. Kate argues that this is just about Chad’s guilt over letting EJ take the blame for a crime he didn’t commit. Kate asks if it doesn’t matter what happens to Lucas. Chad says it’s not like that. Kate questions why he would do something so incredibly stupid then. Chad explains that Abigail was trying to make it her next investigative piece to find out who kidnapped Sami and she refused to let it go. Chad adds that Abigail tracked down the other henchman that Lucas hired and she was going to go to Milwaukee to talk to him. Chad says he wasn’t going to let Abigail leave the state to find the truth when he could tell her himself. Kate argues that Chad doesn’t know that the guy was going to talk and questions why Chad did.

Gwen begs Abigail to come to the prison and promises she would never call her if it wasn’t really urgent. Abigail then hangs up. Susan points out that Abigail didn’t say goodbye. Susan asks who was on the phone. Abigail informs her that it was her sister Gwen, who wants her to come visit her in prison and said it’s important. Susan didn’t get a good feeling. Abigail says she wasn’t either but she never does with Gwen. Abigail complains that Gwen is in her head now and she can’t help but wonder what she wanted. Susan questions if Abigail is going to the prison, reminding her that curiosity killed the cat. Abigail guesses it’s a good thing that she’s not a cat then as she then exits the mansion. Susan remarks that it’s what they all say.

Marlena begins her therapy session with Jan. Jan stops to ask if Belle and EJ are officially together. Marlena warns her that she won’t treat her if she’s not serious about this. Jan says she is serious but she assumed Belle was with EJ, so she was curious how Marlena felt about it. Marlena asserts that this conversation is about Jan, not her or Belle. Jan apologizes and says she’s a little nervous as she needs this to work so she can be a good mother to her baby. Marlena questions that being the reason she’s doing this. Jan says of course and she told her that. Marlena says she’d like to believe her but part of her is afraid this might be a performance and that she might be pretending to want therapy to appease Shawn, while using her to further that relationship. Jan swears she’s doing this for herself and her baby, no other reason. Marlena brings up Jan’s obsession with Shawn and her attempts to break up Shawn and Belle as her reasons for being reluctant to believe her. Jan assures that is over. Marlena warns that if she sees any sign at all that she’s up to her old tricks, the sessions will end. Jan promises there will be no signs as she just wants to get better like Ben did. Jan mentions that Ben told her therapy with Marlena is what helped him more than anything. Jan talks about Ben saying he had to face the things he did head on. Marlena confirms that and says Ben had to think about how he hurt people and he had to feel their pain. Marlena asks if she’s ready to do that. Jan says she is but then starts having stomach pains.

EJ and Belle enter the living room where they find Susan, who says she’s just feeling for tooth fairy vibes. Susan tells Belle that she understands she stayed over last night. Belle questions how she knew. Susan reveals that Harold told her. Susan then starts saying she’s sensing something is going on between them. Susan asks if there is something going on between EJ and Belle. Shawn then walks in and says he’d like to know the answer to that as well.

Chad complains to Kate that he should’ve done nothing while his wife went off to confront a violent felon about his role in a criminal conspiracy. Kate says she gets his point. Kate tells Chad that she’s going to need to be assured that Abigail won’t tell a soul. Chad tells her to trust him. Kate wants Abigail to sign a non-disclosure agreement since it’s about Lucas’s freedom and he could go to prison. Chad repeats that Abigail promised not to say anything to anyone.

Abigail goes to see Gwen in prison. Gwen is surprised she came. Abigail says she realized she really wanted to see her and mocks the idea that she missed her. Abigail complains about Gwen’s lies and how she hurt people she cares about. Gwen asks why she came then. Abigail says Gwen said it was important so she thought maybe Gwen was going to finally tell her what actually happened with her grandmother. Gwen asks if that’s still eating away at her. Abigail says it is whether or not Gwen murdered her in cold blood because she has a sense of humanity. Gwen says she’s sorry but this isn’t about Laura, but about someone else that is very important to Abigail that she wouldn’t want to get hurt. Abigail has zero interest in playing games so she asks Gwen why she’s here or she’s gone. Gwen says it’s about Jack. Abigail demands to know what she did to him. Gwen responds that Jack would be hurt if he’s not properly celebrated since tomorrow is his birthday. Gwen complains that she can’t throw him a party or take him out for a nice meal, but she wants Jack to know how much she cares for him and that she wishes she could be with him. Gwen reveals that she made Jack a gift and hopes Abigail could deliver it to him.

Lucas asks Clyde about his beef with EJ. Clyde asks if he said they had a beef. Lucas says he implied they were enemies. Clyde says that’s probably too strong of a word but explains that he brought EJ a very lucrative business proposition but he turned him down cold, so he’s deeply disappointed. Lucas questions Clyde being tight enough with EJ to pitch him business deals. Clyde says they were cellmates in prison for awhile so they got to know each other pretty well. Clyde calls EJ a talker. Lucas bets EJ talked about himself the whole time. Clyde responds that EJ actually talked a lot about Lucas and didn’t have a lot of nice things to say. Lucas asks what about him. Clyde informs him that EJ wouldn’t shut about Sami’s kidnapping, swearing he was innocent and that he shouldn’t be in prison but that Lucas should be, since he’s the one who really did it.

Belle questions what Shawn is doing here. Shawn asks Belle the same since Marlena said she spent the night. Belle tells Shawn that it’s not his concern. Shawn argues that she’s his wife while Belle reminds him that they are legally separated so she’s under no obligation to tell him where she sleeps, especially when he has a psychopath living in their house. Susan questions that so Belle tells her that Jan Spears is pregnant with Shawn’s baby. Shawn says it’s not what she thinks and knows Belle is upset. Belle argues that she was fine until Shawn barged in to interrogate her. Shawn says no one is interrogating her but Susan asked what’s going on with her and EJ. EJ tells Belle that he doesn’t have to answer that. Shawn tells EJ that he’s speaking to his wife. Susan argues that it’s EJ’s house. EJ thanks Susan but says he can handle this. EJ tells Shawn that Belle needed a place to be to feel safe and comfortable and chose to come here and she’s welcome to stay for as long as she likes. EJ adds that they were about to have brunch, so Shawn can see himself out. Shawn declares that he was right about why Belle wanted to get separated. Shawn complains that Belle said this had nothing to do with EJ but five minutes after he signed the papers, she moves in with him. Belle argues that she did not move in, she’s just staying here. Shawn argues that they both know damn well what’s going on here. Belle complains that she’s just trying to find a place to stay where she doesn’t feel betrayed or insulted. Shawn continues to complain about EJ and accuses EJ of succeeding in stealing her from him. Shawn argues that Belle went from working with EJ to living with him and accuses her of now sleeping with him.

Jan continues to complain about her stomach pain and says it’s like nothing she ever felt before. Marlena encourages her to stay calm but Jan reveals that she thinks she’s in labor.

Abigail questions Gwen making Jack a gift and remarks that she thought she was only capable of making trouble and misery. Gwen responds that she worked very hard on the gift and started over three times to get it right. Abigail questions her being serious. Gwen then reveals a mug she made in her art therapy that says “Dad” on it. Abigail busts out laughing and calls it pathetic. Gwen asks if she will give it to Jack or not. Abigail suggests she just mail it. Gwen says that would take months or he might not get it at all. Gwen argues that it was the best she could do and Jack was very kind to her in getting Justin to help reduce her sentence, so she wanted to show her gratitude. Abigail remarks that she could always try not being the biggest bitch to ever live. Gwen argues that Abigail is just trying to punish her by letting Jack think that she forgot his birthday while they all celebrate his birthday at the Horton house. Abigail points out that Jack is in Boston. Gwen asks if she’s not going to fly out to be with him on his birthday. Abigail confirms she thought about flying out to surprise him. Gwen asks her to take her gift then. Gwen knows Abigail hates her but Jack doesn’t and he is all she has left. Gwen says it would mean the world to her if she could just do this one favor for her and give Jack the mug. Abigail agrees to take the mug, so Gwen thanks her. Abigail then picks up the mug and drops it on the floor, smashing it.

Kate questions why Chad didn’t tell her that Abigail promised not to say anything right away. Chad explains that Abigail hates lying but she understands in this case that it’s for the greater good as she doesn’t want to destroy his relationship with EJ or send Lucas to prison since that would destroy Jennifer. Kate calls it an assurance but not a guarantee. Chad says that’s as close as she will get and points out that he didn’t even have to tell Kate. Kate questions why she did but then acknowledges that she’s given Chad a number of reasons not to give a damn about her, but he still does. Chad can relate to this being about Kate’s child so he assures that she does not have to worry about Lucas.

Lucas questions Clyde saying that EJ told him he kidnapped Sami. Clyde says that EJ had no doubt it was a frame job. Lucas argues that EJ can’t live with his own guilt and projects his feelings onto others. Clyde suggests Lucas could always sue him for slander if what he says is not true. Lucas says he’s not taking EJ to court as he doesn’t need that messy court battle and doesn’t need the money right now either. Clyde comments that it must be nice. Clyde says it might be a blessing that EJ turned down his business opportunity because he thinks Lucas would be a much better partner.

Jan continues complaining of her stomach pain and pleads with Marlena to help her.

Belle tells Shawn that she is not sleeping with EJ, she is sleeping by herself in a guest room because she can’t spend another night at Marlena’s. Shawn argues that Belle could have gone to the Salem Inn or any other hotel, but she knew that coming here would send a message. Belle says she was too busy dealing with the shock of being utterly betrayed by her entire family. Shawn argues that everybody is on Belle’s side. Belle asks how when she was already living with her worst nightmare by Jan having her husband’s baby and living in her house and now her mother wants to be Jan’s therapist while Shawn and John just go along with it. Shawn states that Jan needs help and if she doesn’t get it, the innocent baby will suffer. Shawn prays that Marlena succeeds for everyone’s sake. Susan encourages that she will because Marlena can work miracles. Susan then apologizes as it’s not her business. Belle asks if they are just going to live happily ever after if Jan is cured and is no longer a homicidal maniac. Shawn then gets a call from Marlena which Belle mocks. Shawn answers and asks if everything is okay. Shawn says he’s on his way and hangs up, revealing they have gone to the hospital because Jan is in labor.

Clyde tells Lucas that the opportunity he mentioned is very lucrative as he puts a little money in and takes a whole lot out. Clyde asks if Lucas is interested. Lucas guesses there’s no way it’s legal and he’d like to stay out of prison. Clyde says if he changes his mind, he knows where to find him. Clyde adds that if EJ was going around saying he committed a crime that he didn’t, he wouldn’t be too happy about it. Lucas responds that he’s not happy about it but there’s nothing he can do. Clyde remarks that there’s always something he can do and he might just need a little help doing it. Clyde suggests maybe they could help each other. Lucas says maybe, so Clyde tells him to think about it and walks away.

Abigail steps on the remains of Gwen’s mug, smashing it into pieces. Gwen questions what the hell she did that for. Abigail says she put that thing out of it’s misery. Gwen cries that the thing was a gift for their father and she just deliberately destroyed it. Abigail shouts that Gwen destroys everything she touches so she has no right to complain. Gwen asks what is wrong with her. Abigail argues that Gwen tried to ruin her life and then tormented her forever about the death of her grandmother. Gwen yells that Abigail didn’t have to break her gift. Abigail remarks that she’s lucky that’s all she broke. Gwen says she’ll just make another one. Abigail tells her to make a whole set because she will have plenty of time for it. Gwen calls her a selfish bitch and vows to make her pay for this. Abigail then exits the prison.

Belle asks if Shawn just said Jan is in labor. EJ tells Belle that he’s so sorry. Susan decides she will leave now but EJ asks what she has planned for the day. Susan says nothing so EJ invites her to join them for brunch. Susan declines as she doesn’t want to be the third wheel. Susan reminds EJ that Belle is still married and EJ is still married to her sister. Susan knows Sami has moved on, but she doesn’t think EJ has and she’s not convinced that EJ is over Sami. Susan then exits the room.

Shawn goes to the hospital, on the phone explaining that Jan’s ankle monitor went off because she was admitted to the hospital and he will clear everything up with her probation officer. Shawn asks Marlena where Jan is. Marlena directs him to her room up the hall.

Lucas remains at the counter of the Pub, staring at the drink that Clyde left on the bar until Kate walks in and questions what the hell he’s doing.

Belle tells EJ that no matter how hard she tries to wrap her head around it, she can’t believe Jan is at the hospital now about to deliver her husband’s baby. Belle points out that Jan is going in to labor a lot sooner than she was supposed to so the baby will be very premature. EJ then remarks that maybe there’s a bright side and the child won’t survive.

Shawn goes to Jan’s hospital room. Jan thanks him for coming and says it’s too soon so the baby can’t come yet. Shawn encourages that the doctors will take care of her. Jan asks what if something happens. Jan cries that she already loves the baby more than anything in the world and she’s scared. Shawn holds her hand and assures that everything will be alright as he’s there.

Chad and Abigail sit together in the town square. Abigail explains to Chad that Gwen asked her to give Jack a mug but claims she accidentally dropped it. Abigail then admits she smashed it on purpose and Gwen was not too happy about it. Abigail adds that Gwen threatened to make her pay.

Gwen makes a call from prison and says she needs to talk about Abigail. Gwen declares that if she doesn’t get to spend her father’s birthday with him, then neither does Abigail.

Recap written by Christine

After Victor learned that Victoria was planning to move away with Ashland, Victor went and confronted Ashland at his suite. Victor refused to let Ashland take Victoria away. Ashland said Victoria was choosing to come with him, because she knew his mistakes and loved him anyway. Victor said Victoria would soon learn Ashland was the human parasite Victor always suspected he was. Ashland questioned Victor saying he always suspected this. “Don’t you think I checked up on you? Don’t you think I learned about the fact that you assumed your dead friend’s identity and stole a woman’s fortune to build your empire?,” Victor asked. Victor regretted letting Nikki call the ambulance when Ashland had a heart attack at the ranch. Victor wished he’d let Ashland die.

Ashland said Victor could try and control Victoria’s life, but he couldn’t control her heart, and love triumphed over all. Laughing, Victor said Ashland didn’t know what love was. Victor thought that Ashalnd was perpetrating a manipulative sham. Ashland had thought there was nothing left for him in this town after the restraining order, but then Victoria came to him and said she still loved him. Ashland couldn’t take all the credit for winning Victoria back, since her loyalty to the family ran deep. Ashland said Victor drove Victoria away with his iron fist and lack of respect for her independence. Victor said this wasn’t over, and he left.

Victoria was with Billy in his office. He was skeptical of her story that she was leaving town for herself. He was sure Ashland had something to do with this. She admitted Ashland was integral to her decision. He thought she might be leaving town because she was ashamed she’d fallen for Ashland’s scheme. He told her not to let Ashland run her out of town. Victoria told Billy to stop talking. She revealed that she forgave Ashland, and they were leaving together. He asked how she could forgive Ashland after all he’d done. She said she had a lot of practice, since she’d forgiven Billy many times.

Billy didn’t think it was fair to compare him to someone who lied about having cancer for months. Victoria thought Billy would understand, given his podcast about redemption. Billy thought Ashland was all out of second chances once he assumed his friend’s identity and forged a woman’s will. Victoria though forgiveness was possible after true contrition. Billy was disturbed by the hold Ashalnd had on Victoria, that would make her leave her family, company and Johnny and Katie behind. She said the kids didn’t know she’d ever broken up from Ashland, and she’d never leave them behind. He asked where she was going, and she said she’d let him know. Billy said he wasn’t signing off on Johnny and Katie going God-knows-where with Ashland Locke. He didn’t want his kids anywhere near that monster.

Victoria said the kids were at boarding school, so their lives wouldn’t be disrupted. She pointed out that she and Billy had joint custody, so he couldn’t tell her where she could take the kids. Billy said that agreement was based on the two of them living in the same city. Victoria said that divorced parents moved all the time. She’d file the paperwork to have the agreement amended. Billy said he’d fight the motion. He wasn’t letting her take the kids away from Genoa City. She aksed if he really thought she’d do anything to hurt the kids. He never did, so that was why he was having such a hard time understanding her latest move. He was adamant that Ashland was a threat to their kids. Victoria argued that Ashland would never hurt their kids. Billy announced that Summer and Kyle filed a restraining order to keep Ashland from Harrison. Victoria said her father orchestrated the whole thing. Billy said that restraining order was public record. He wished Victoria luck finding a judge that would ignore it. She asked when he became such a fan of her father’s methods. He said he was doing what he had to do to protect his kids. She didn’t come to ask for permission – she was telling him her plans as a courtesy. He wasn’t going to let her take the kids. She guessed she was wrong to think that he wouldn’t put the kids through a tug of war. She began to storm out. He followed and said Ashland would hurt her again. She snapped that she was a grown woman. He yelled back her he wouldn’t let her bad choices affect his children. “I will fight you on this,” he warned. She left.

Lily came in and reported to Billy that everything was going great with the launch. Billy brought Lily up to speed on Victoria and Ashland. Billy didn’t understand this. Lily didn’t either, but she thought Billy had decided to take a step back and let Victoria’s family deal with this kind of thing. Billy said this was different because it affected his kids. He wasn’t okay with Victoria taking his kids out of town to live with Ashland. “Enough is enough,” Lily said. Billy agreed. He said he’d tried to be patient with Victoria’s feelings for Ashland, but he was putting his foot down. He needed to protect his kids from their mother’s bad decision. “I wasn’t talking about Victoria, Billy. I was talking about you,” Lily clarified. She said this was Victoria’s decision, and he couldn’t penalize his kids for it. He said he was protecting the kids because Ashland was dangerous. Lily argued that Billy knew Ashland was not a physical threat to Johnny and Katie and that Victoria would never put their lives at risk. Billy said he used to know that, but Victoria wasn’t thinking clearly anymore. Billy didn’t know how far Ashland would go, and he didn’t want his kids to find out. Lily said this wasn’t about the kids, it was about Billy’s inability to let go of Victoria. She thought he seized any opportunity to be Victoria’s protector. Lily was so fed up with this twisted push and pull routine, and she wasn’t putting up with it any longer.

Victoria went to Ashland’s room with a small bag. She was going to send for the rest of her things once they were settled in NY. He asked if she was sure about this, and she said absolutely. He told her Victor stopped by, and his fury was something to behold. She asked if Victor intimidated him. He said no. Ashland thought it was sad – he’d been emboldened by Victoria’s love, but he also knew what it was like to lose her love. He saw that in Victor’s eyes – fear of losing his beloved daughter. Victoria said Victor was the one who drove her away. Ashland said as angry as Victoria was at her father, her connection to her family ran deep. She said that was why she wanted to leave now, and get away from her father’s reach. He said this would be difficult for her. She knew, and she was ready for it. The only problem she had was Billy wanting to fight her for custody of the kids. She said Billy didn’t have a leg to stand on, and she’d fight him back just as hard. She just hoped it didn’t get too ugly.

Adam jogged in the park, where he stopped to text Victor and asked to meet to talk business. Chelsea came up and commented that he had time to run in the middle of the day, while she got her cardio in between work and taking care of Connor. Adam was happy to have Connor spend more time at the ranch if Chelsea was overwhelmed. She said it was fine; Connor had a half day today, so that made logistics a little more complicated. She pointed Connor out – he was at soccer practice in the park. She turned somber and said she thought Connor loved his new coach because he was similar to Rey. Adam asked if Chelsea was okay since the last time they saw each other. She defensively said she wasn’t going off the deep end. He wasn’t worried about that. He could just tell when she was troubled, and he knew it was a stressful time, since she was working on a new line with Chloe at Fenmore’s. Chelsea called Adam patronizing. She said her job had been a dream, there was no infighting or fear of getting stabbed in the back. “So in other words, unlike your last employer,” Adam said. “Exactly,” Chelsea replied. Adam was glad Chelsea was handling things. He said Rey’s death was a shock, so he worried for her and Connor. She asked if he was implying he didn’t trust her around their son. He wasn’t saying that. He knew she always put Connor first. He just acknowledged this was a tough time for Chelsea and Connor, and he wanted to make sure Chelsea was taking time for herself. Chelsea didn’t believe that was all this was, since she felt that Adam always had an agenda. Kyle walked up on Chelsea snapping at Adam not to worry about her. Adam tried to defuse things, and Kyle got involved and asked if there was a problem.

Adam and Chelsea said there was no problem. Adam divulged that Ashland was leaving town – the restraining order Victor arranged seemed to have worked. Kyle didn’t hear anything about Ashland leaving, and he was skeptical since the details were coming from Adam. Kyle suggested that Adam might want to get back to his run. Chelsea said the nanny would take Connor home after his scrimmage so if Adam wanted to see him, now was the time. Adam went off to see his son. Kyle asked if Chelsea was sure she was okay. She said she was fine – just a couple exes arguing over their kid. She said Adam was a lot, but he was a good dad. Kyle hoped he didn’t overstep by intervening. Chelsea appreciated Kyle stepping in, and she invited him to coffee as thanks. He accepted.

Summer and Sally ran into each other at Crimson Lights. Sally was surprised Summer was able to get away from Marchetti, since it must be a busy time. Summer commented that Sally had a meteoric rise since being fired by Lauren. Summer liked the wedding dress Sally designed for Victoria, but she never imagined that would culminate in Sally becoming COO of Newman Media. Summer called it luck, but Sally said it was ambition – something she and Summer both had a lot of.

Sally didn’t see a reason to get into a blow by blow of their career trajectories. Summer assumed Sally was talking about the time she and Tara conspired to drive Summer out of town and away from Kyle. That was what Sally meant. Summer couldn’t help but wonder if Sally’s career ascension happened because she was sleeping with the boss. Sally thought that the important thing was that Sally and Summer had their dream jobs with their dream guys – Summer in Milan and Sally in Genoa City. Summer knew Sally liked her being on a different continent. Summer said she was destined to work at Marchetti, but she belonged in Genoa City, and now she was back for good.

Summer noticed that Sally didn’t seem happy for her. Sally said she was just surprised. She congratulated Summer and said she deserved it. Summer said she’d have full control of the fashion house, a loving husband, their adorable son and a full life in her hometown, surrounded by friends and family. Kyle and Chelsea walked in, and Sally was suddenly ready to leave. Sally said to let her know if their little fashion house needed a push from the giant media conglomerate she and Adam ran. Sally left. Summer said Kyle and Chelsea rescued her by coming when they did. Chelsea said there was a lot of that going around.

Chelsea told Summer what happened at the park. Summer bet things were tricky with Adam these days. Chelsea said they always were with him. Summer got the sense that Sally was intimidated by Chelsea. Summer guessed Sally did something to blow up Newman Fashion. Chelsea said it wasn’t actually Sally’s fault – it shut down over a corporate decision. Summer was sure that it wasn’t easy to work with Sally, though. Chelsea said it wasn’t all bad. However, Chelsea quickly said Sally was the worst person to work with, because it was all about her, and once she got her claws into Adam, things got very uncomfortable. Summer wasn’t surprised since Sally was a world class opportunist. Chelsea said she didn’t want to badmouth Sally, but she was a lot happier working with Chloe on their own to produce an exclusive line for Fenmore’s.

Summer asked a lot of questions about Chelsea’s work at Fenmore’s. Chelsea felt like this was a job interview. Kyle encouraged Summer to tell Chelsea. Summer told Chelsea about the Marchetti sale. Summer said they were thinking about a collaboration between Marchetti and Fenmore. Kyle said Jabot owned all of Marchetti and almost 50% of Fenmore’s, so it would make sense for greater profit margin. Lauren was on the board of Jabot, so she knew about the sale of Marchetti, but not about the potential for Fenmore’s to be the exclusive distributor. Chelsea loved the idea of working with Summer and Kyle.

Adam and Victor met at Newman Media. Adam thought they should talk, in light of Victoria’s decision to run off with Locke. Adam said the positive was that Ashland was out of the company and out of town. Victor was angry and upset that Victoria was going to leave the company and leave the family. Victor vowed to get Ashland if it was the last thing he did. Adam understood Victor was upset because he spent a lot of time, love and energy grooming Victoria to be his successor, only for her to self-destruct. Adam said Victoria was given every opportunity and she threw it away. Victor said he’d only wanted the best for his children, and he raised them all to be strong self-possessed adults. Adam knew it must be painful to Victor that Victoria lost her way. Adam said that it had always been clear to him and everyone else that Victor viewed Victoria as the heir apparent, so this must be especially hard for Victor. Victor agreed. Adam said he wasn’t saying this to take a jab at Victoria. He said he made the deal with Ashland, so he’d done his part to get rid of Ashland. Adam said he wasn’t sure how the family could reach Victoria. Victor was coming around to Adam’s way of thinking. Adam said Victoria was headstrong, which was usually a gift, but it seemed to be a curse this time. Victor said he couldn’t get Victoria to see that if she remarried Ashland, it would have consequences. Victor asked what if Victoria failed and came back a broken woman. He thought Victoria was doing something that could cause irreparable harm.

Adam said Victoria might not fail. Victor said of course she would – there was no future success where Ashland was involved. Adam stated that the smart and resourceful Victoria could find a way to flourish once she was out from under Victor’s shadow. Adam said maybe the entire family could reset, get out of the roles they’d been in for so long, and become something greater. “Maybe so,” Victor replied.

Jack spotted Diane at Society and went over to her table. He commented that she was in town for the duration. She said she was here as long as Kyle wanted her to be. She invited Jack to sit, and he did. He mused that Society was the best restaurant in town. Diane asked what happened to Gloria’s restaurant, and Jack said Gloworm mercifully burned to the ground. Diane didn’t think she and Jack needed to fill the air with small talk, when they had a son, grandson and history. Jack said most of their history was unpleasant, and they couldn’t walk down memory lane without smashing a boulder or two. Diane brought up how cute Harrison was. He reminded her of Kyle as a boy. Jack shared a story about Harrison’s kindness and generosity, and Diane said that was just like Kyle.

Jack entertained Diane with a story about Harrison trying to sneak a frog into the house in his pocket. Diane was charmed. She couldn’t wait for Harrison to get to know her. She remembered the early part of Kyle’s life so well. She knew it was because she wasn’t there for the later years. Now that she was back, she saw that Kyle inherited Jack’s sense of wonder. She saw it when Kyle played with Harrison, and she used to see it when Jack played with Kyle. She said Jack was built for fatherhood. Jack got joy in watching Kyle with Harrison. Diane said she, Jack and Kyle had fun by the pool, and Phyllis was always lurking making sure Diane didn’t hone in on her territory. Jack sighed.

Jack got up from the table. He thought Diane bringing up Phyllis proved it was a mistake for him to join her. He felt their history was too fraught to have a pleasant conversation. Diane was sorry. She didn’t realize bringing up Phyllis would upset Jack. He said bringing up that portion of their lives would set off emotional fireworks of all kinds. Diane apologized for who she’d been back then and for what she did. She was sorry she took Kyle away, costing Jack quality time during their son’s formative years. She was sorry she abandoned Kyle, making Jack have to raise him alone. She was sorry she wasn’t stronger and braver in how she handled things. Crying, Diane said she had so many regrets and so many amends to make, and Jack was at the top of the list. As she dabbed at her tears, he sat back down.

Jack picked up the check. Diane thanked Jack for that and for having lunch with her. She said she’d been spending a lot of time alone. He guessed it was pretty lonely. She said maybe, but it was honest. She hid her past in LA, and she couldn’t get close to anyone because of that. Here in Genoa City, she was dodging grenades and facing the damage she caused head-on. She said being here with him today, talking about Kyle and Harrison and being honest about her past almost made her feel normal and gave her hope for their future. She had him to thank for that.

Jack: I keep seeing you at all my favorite spots.

Diane: Mm, it’s almost like i live in Genoa City.

Jack: You really are here for the duration, aren’t you?

Diane: I’m here as long as kyle wants me to be, and our son has ** it abundantly clear that I’m welcome. So why don’t * make yourself comfortable? Join me.

Billy: Well, when Ashland Locke stole his best friend’s identity, then falsified a dying woman’s will, I think he
ran out of second chances.

Victoria: Well, you know what? I believe that there is room for forgiveness when someone shows true contrition, which is exactly what Ashland has done.

Billy: I mean, after everything he’s done? I have no idea what that would even look like. But what bothers me more is this hold that he has on you. That you would be willing to leave everything you have, your family,
your company, including Johnny and Katie behind.

Summer: I’m glad that I ran into you. I told Chelsea, but I haven’t gotten a chance to tell you how amazing Mariah and Tessa’s wedding dresses were.

Chloe: Thank you. Though Chelsea should get most of the credit. But, you know, I do consider myself, you know, a genius whisperer.

Summer: [Chuckles] It’s an important skill to have when you work in fashion.

Chloe: I know, right? I mean, but they really need people like you and me to keep their, you know, creative juices flowing.

Summer: It’s my top priority as creative director at Marchetti. Artists can be a handful.

Chloe: Yeah, I know what you’re saying. But, you know, it’s kind of worth it. Well, most of the time.

Chelsea: Is everything okay with you and Chelsea?

Chloe: Mm, yes, could not be better. In fact, I’ve really got to get going. I’m late for a meeting with her.

Adam: Well, one of the worst things about Victoria returning to work and Nikki being installed as Co-CEO is that the streaming deal that I pitched to dad has completely gone by the wayside. He and Nikki are too focused on propping up their little girl that they have let business suffer. It’s a huge missed opportunity.

Sally: Well, maybe there’s a way that Newman Media can salvage at least part of the project.

Adam: Well, what did you have in mind?

Sally: Well, instead of creating a giant streamer, like we planned, to compete with the big guys, we execute a more surgical strike. We launch a niche platform targeted towards a very particular demographic, and we do that specific content better than the big guys and we build an audience that way.

Adam: That could be interesting. I like that you’re always thinking.

Sally: You keep up okay. I know that you’re frustrated that our plan to reunite Victoria and Ashland has been put on hold while Victoria’s off on her little spa holiday with Nikki, but it is just temporary.

Update written by Suzanne

Carly goes to see Drew at the pool; they chat briefly about Nina. Carly has a flashback to getting the test results. Drew is so relieved that Nina is out of Willow’s life, since she’s not really her mother. Michael and Willow arrive. They mentioned that they dropped Wiley off at his swimming lessons, so they decided to take a little break together. She’s graduating soon and then will be very busy. Drew takes Michael away to chat about ELQ. Willow expresses to Carly how angry she still is at Nina for putting her own needs before Wiley’s. She mentions finding her bio mom, but says that after seeing how Nina act, she realizes that she has all the family she needs. Carly is glad to hear it.

Drew has a talk with Michael about merging ELQ and Aurora. They discuss Ned and how to handle him. Talk turns to Sonny. Drew is worried about what Michael has planned for Sonny. It’s clear that Michael plans to make him suffer. Drew notes that merging the two companies is not as easy as they had thought.

Ned and Olivia have bought a horse for Leo for equestian therapy. Leo loves the horse, so they’re very glad to see how happy he is. Olivia and Leo leave to go get some snacks for the horse. Meanwhile, Valentin drops by with some riding gear that Charlotte grew out of, for Leo. He mentions that Charlotte is still in boarding school. He makes it sound like it’s Charlotte’s choice. Valentin asks Ned again to support him for CEO. In exchange, he’ll share power with Ned and give him whatever position he wants, except for CEO. Olivia and Leo return, but Olivia sends Leo back to the house. Valentin leaves. Olivia is wary about whatever Valentin is plotting. Ned and Olivia talk about the ELQ power struggles. She urges him to go back to Michael and Drew to make a deal, which is what he’s good at.

Cassandra gets a text from Chet, which says that he landed. She looks distressed. She’s surprised to see TJ there. He decided to come in to work, even though he asked for time off. She knows that he’s having some family troubles, so she suggests that instead of endangering patients by working when his mind is elsewhere, he should just observe some surgeries. He readily agrees.

Curtis, Stella and Marshall return home. Portia greets them. Portia asks Marshall how he’s feeling. At first he’s a little curt with her, since he thinks she’s asking as a doctor, but then Stella prods him, so he apologizes. Portia says that he’s welcome there, and they’ve made up a room for him. He thanks her. Stella takes him up to show him the room, so that he can get cleaned up and changed. Curtis confides to Portia that he feels guilty for how things have gone with Marshall. He blames himself for how he ended up getting attacked. Portia assures him that it’s not his fault. He has Marshall’s pills from the hospital, so she offers to look at them (to see what they’re for), but Curtis figures that he’s invaded Marshall’s privacy enough. Stella comes back down and apologizes to Portia for how she lied to her before. Portia accepts her apology. Portia leaves for the hospital, so Stella advises Curtis to marry Portia because time goes by too fast. Curtis is committed to Portia but not ready for marriage yet. He tells Stella that he’s still recovering from his divorce from Jordan. Stella looks suddenly stricken (since she stole the divorce papers, and they were never filed).

Marshall returns and tells Curtis that he’s terrified now because he has to answer his questions. They sit down. Marshall makes it clear that it was his idea, not Irene’s (Curtis’s mother), to let the kids think he was dead. He explains that after he returned from Vietnam, he needed a purpose, which he found in protesting the war, civil rights, etc. Because of this, he was able to find his music again. Irene worried that he wasn’t getting enough sleep and was being paranoid. He felt like he was always being watched. He confesses that he had an episode, which was what led to him being arrested. The police put him in the psychiatric ward, where they diagnosed him as having schizophrenia. Curtis looks shocked.

Laura helps Elizabeth settle in at Shadybrook. Laura observes that Elizabeth looks rested. They talk about how she might be feeling, with her sleep medication wearing off. Elizabeth is mad at herself for accidentally taking too many and letting it overtake her life, but Laura points out that she didn’t have an outside perspective. Finn arrives, looking nervous and bearing flowers. Elizabeth is a little annoyed to see him because she’d asked him not to visit her. He looks hurt, so she explains to him that she’s very afraid of hurting him, like she did Chase. Laura says that they all know that she wouldn’t do that. Elizabeth explains that the doctors think she has disassociative fugure. She says she wasn’t ready to move on with him, like she thought she was. She still has to face what’s wrong. She tells him that when she’s with him, she feels like everything is great, but then she won’t be able to fix what’s wrong. Finn leaves but tells her that he’s not giving up on them.

Outside, Laura thanks Finn for coming. She tells him about her own battle in the past with mental illness and mentions that she had suppressed something from her past. He wonders if it’s more than grief that’s causing Elizabeth’s problems. Later, Cassandra sees Finn at GH and asks him if he saw Elizabeth. He explains that she asked him to leave. She is shocked to hear that. When she brings up Elizabeth’s grief, he wonders again if it’s more than that. He wonders if she’s suppressing something else. Cassandra doesn’t know of anything but brings up the fact that Elizabeth is estranged from her parents. Finn agrees to reach out to them to get answers.

Laura goes back in and chats more with Elizabeth, who’s afraid that she might still get arrested or sued for the things she did. Laura tries to reassure her. Laura wonders why the sleeping pills were in Elizabeth’s system for a year before any of the incidents occurred. She asks Elizabeth if anything happened more recently that she might have discussed in therapy. Elizabeth blanches and then abruptly says that she has to go lie down. Laura looks worried.

Valentin goes to the pool bar and trades barbs with Drew and Michael about this game they’re playing with ELQ. Valentin’s banter seems to bother Michael more than Drew. He thinks Valentin is planning something before the next shareholders’ meeting. Michael and Willow leave. Drew asks Carly if Willow is okay. She replies that Nina just got in her head. Drew praises Carly for being such a good friend. He says again how relieved he is that Nina’s not really Willow’s mom. Carly just smiles a forced smile. They joke around a bit about accepting her offer to help with ELQ.

Young & The Restless Update

Recap written by Christine

At Newman Enterprises, Nick told Victoria it was bad enough that she was defending Ashland, but now she was running away with him. Victoria said she wasn’t running away. She told her parents and brothers that she was doing what she needed to do to be happy. Victor contended that Ashland would ruin Victoria’s life. Nikki wanted to know why Victoria, who’d previously maintained that she had feelings for Ashland, but no future with him, had changed her mind. Nick surmised that Ashland played on Victoria’s sympathies with a sob story about losing access to Harrison. He asked how she could fall for this again. Adam suggested they give Victoria a chance to explain. She saw no point since no one would listen, and besides, she didn’t have to defend her decision to forgive Ashland. Furthermore, Ashland wasn’t the only reason she was leaving Genoa City. Victor asked Victoria if she couldn’t see that Ashland was a fraudster who was toying with her.

Nikki wanted everyone to step back and stop saying things they’d regret. Victor wanted to know where Ashland and Victoria intended to go. Victoria said they hadn’t decided, not that she’d tell Victor if she had. Nikki was horrified Victoria would just disappear. Victoria brushed aside Nikki’s concerns. She wished her mother had faith in her ability to take care of herself. Nick told Victoria not to blow off their concerns. He said they stood by her when Ashland put her through hell. He asked her to think about what her family went through when they thought she was flying to Italy to Ashland or the night she got in the car accident. Victoria pointed out that Ashland saved her life. Nick accused Victoria of missing the point. Victoria thought that the family thought she owed them for exposing Ashland’s lies, paying him off, comforting her and punishing him. “You think that you have the right to tell me what to believe and how to live my life,” she contended. She told them that wasn’t going to work for her.

Victor said Victoria was blinded by love. Victoria didn’t see it that way. She knew they thought she was crazy to believe Ashland still loved her, but she didn’t care. Nikki wanted Victoria to give this some time, instead of leaving town now and giving up the career she spent a lifetime building. Victoria declared that life was too short to subject Ashland or herself to this family’s judgment. Nick said that if Ashland really cared about Victoria, eh wouldn’t ask her to give up her job. Victoria reiterated that Ashland wasn’t the only reason she was leaving. She revealed that it was her idea to leave, not Ashland’s. Victor thought Ashland had cleverly convinced Victoria that this was her idea, like he did with the merger. Victoria felt that Victor didn’t think she was capable of coming up with an idea on her own. She said that Ash land had his own doubts about this. Nick suggested that Ashland’s reluctance could be a con. “Oh come on, Nicholas. Do you really think that I’m that gullible?,” Victoria asked. She asked if they really thought they were all so much smarter than her. She reminded them that they all believed Ashland had cancer, just like she did.

Victor claimed he’d been suspicious of Ashland from the day he came into Victoria’s life. That was why he had Ashland investigated. Victoria accused Victor of rewriting history. She reminded him that he’d approved more of Ashland than he had of any other man she’d ever loved. Victor screamed that Ashland was a fraud. Victor had tolerated Ashland’s nonsense for awhile, because he made Victoria happy, but once Ashland miraculously recovered from this terminal illness, Victor knew something was off. Victoria said Victor was right – Ashland did something very terrible, and he regretted it, but he was still the perfect man for her. Victor told Victoria that she couldn’t be more wrong. Frustrated, he called her stubborn. Victoria snapped that this attitude was the reason she was leaving and never coming back. She said he thought she couldn’t survive without him telling her what to do. She was tired of trying to win his approval, and she was done. Victor told Victoria to own her decision and not to blame anyone else in this room. He snarled that he’d done nothing but protect her and promote her to be the CEO of one of the biggest companies in the world. He said if she did this, it’d be the biggest mistake she ever made. Victoria angrily left.

Victor lamented that if Victoria and Nikki had come home from Switzerland a day later, Ashland would’ve been gone for good. Nikki said Victoria was determined to come home when she did. Nick said they all did everything they could to get through to Victoria, but she didn’t want to hear it. Adam wasn’t surprised, but he felt for everyone, and he said to let him know if there was anything he could do. He left. Nikki wondered if Ashland was trying to go after Victoria because he still wanted the company. She suggested that Ashland might leave Victoria now that she’d decided to quit her job. Nick said that if Ashland left Victoria, he’d do it in the cruelest way possible, after she’d alienated herself from the family and left the city. Nikki couldn’t bear the thought of that. Nick worried that Victoria was so stubborn she wouldn’t accept Ashland was bad news until after he tried to destroy her life again. Victor refused to let that happen. He said he wouldn’t give up on Victoria.

Victoria went to Ashland’s suite, and he could tell things with her family didn’t go well. She’d expected it to be this way. He hated that she had to go through this and that he was the cause. She said she tried to get her family to see that this wasn’t about whether she and Ashland were together – it was about whether she got to run her own life. She said that she’d been accused of being blinded by love and ungrateful. It was clear to her that her family had very little respect for her. Ashland thought that her family couldn’t fathom that someone who had so much to offer would settle for someone like him. Victoria said her family understood forgiveness – they just wanted to be the ones to decide who was worthy of it. Ashland said Victor wouldn’t let Victoria go without a fight. He told her they’d have to be prepared for whatever came next.

Victoria thought Victor resented it when one of his kids wanted to strike out on their own. She predicted Victor would direct most of his anger at Ashland. She suggested they leave now before her dad had the chance to do anything. Ashland reminded Victoria that she’d wanted to take things slow. He assured her he could handle whatever Victor threw at him. He didn’t want her to rush into this and regret it. She was sure she wanted to go now, and she was excited. He’d go wherever she wanted. She suggested NY, since he had roots there, and they could create their own unstoppable empire. He was ready to go whenever she was. She just had to pack a quick bag and do one more thing before they left.

Victoria went to Billy’s office and asked to talk. He was busy with the launch party and asked if they could talk later. She told him she was moving. He was shocked. She congratulated him – all the advice he gave her about getting out from under her father’s thumb, and she was finally doing it. He found it hard to believe her epiphany had anything to do with him. He decided to put his work aside and make time to talk to Victoria about this. He wanted to know her reason for leaving. She explained that she was tired of people weighing in on the nature and quality of her decisions. He understood that but he said they were raising children together, so he had a vested interest. She said that was why she was coming to him. She said she was cutting ties and leaving the company and town. Billy asked what Victor did now. She said she just lost hope that Victor would ever stop trying to run her life. She was sure Billy would say this was a couple decades too late. Billy said if this was really about Victoria breaking free and living life on her own terms, he applauded that, but if this had anything to do with Ashland, they were going to have a serious problem.

Back at Newman Enterprises, Victoria wasn’t answering Nikki’s calls, and Nikki was panicked thinking she may have already left. Victor said there was nowhere on earth Ashland could hide from him. Nikki said they had to be careful if they talked to Victoria again because she was taking everything the wrong way. Nikki blamed Ashland for that. Nikki felt that Ashland was playing on Victoria’s insecurities. According to Nikki, Victoria always needed Victor to be proud of her. Victor said he always was proud of Victoria. He adored his girl and put her in charge of his legacy – he’d paid that bastard five hundred million dollars to get away from her. Nikki was worried Ashalnd would convince Victoria to completely cut them out of her life. “The hell he will,” Victor snapped, and he left.

Ashland wasn’t surprised when Victor showed up at the hotel. “So you think it’s gonna be that easy? You’re gonna walk away with everything you want? Think again,” Victor said.

Adam went to his office. Sally came running in asking what was with his cryptic text. He said he told Victor that Victoria was going to go back to Ashland. Victor had told Adam to knock it off with the wishful thinking. Sally worried that Victor knew about Adam and Sally’s plan. Adam was sure Victor didn’t know. Adam said Victoria had just declared her undying love for that creep. Sally was thrilled their plan worked. Adam wasn’t sure it their plan had anything to do with it, but he crowed that they were getting exactly what they wanted. Adam told Sally how Victoria went off on the family. Sally suggested that Victoria was going back to Locke to rebel against her parents. Adam admitted that Victoria’s explosion was pretty badass. Sally asked if Victor lost it. “It was beautiful. I wish you could’ve been there,” Adam said.

Sally and Adam marveled at how things worked out. Yesterday, Adam and Sally had been commiserating because it seemed like their plan to reunite Ashland and Victoria wasn’t going to work, then today, Victoria waltzed into the office and blew up her whole career, saving him the trouble. He thought he should buy a lottery ticket since he was having such a great day. Sally asked if Victor would terminate Victoria’s contract. Adam said Victor wouldn’t have to because Victoria quit. Sally asked who was in charge at Newman now. Adam didn’t know, but for now he was going to sit back and see how this played out.

Tessa and Mariah hugged Sharon at Crimson Lights. Sharon was excited to hear about Paris. Tessa and Mariah had a great time. Tessa had a sore throat that she needed to get over before she went on tour, so Sharon went to make her some tea. Sharon was sorry that everyone wasn’t there to greet Mariah and Tessa. Nick had been there, but he got called away, and Faith was at school, but Noah was on his way. Mariah and Tessa brought Sharon a silk handkerchief from Paris. She loved it. Mariah said Sharon had been on their minds while they were away. She asked how Sharon was. Sharon was okay. She missed Rey, and sometimes she briefly forgot he’d died, but Noah and Nick checked in all the time, and Faith had been so sweet. Faith was going to college soon. University of Michigan. Mariah wondered if Faith had considered GCU. Sharon was okay with Faith going away to college. She didn’t want to feel like Faith was staying in town for her. “But the one thing that always lifts my spirits the most is seeing you kids thrive,” Sharon said. Tessa took Mariah’s hand and said they were doing their part. Sharon agreed.

Sharon admired the photos of Paris, then Mariah and Tessa thanked her for the trip. Sharon said Nick made the arrangements, so she couldn’t take credit. That turned to a discussion on how he was. Sharon confided that he was worried about Victoria, because she and Ashland separated. Tessa and Mariah were shocked. It hadn’t even been a year. Tessa said she sang at the wedding. Sharon said it happened awhile ago, but she didn’t mention it because she didn’t want to bring down Mariah and Tessa ahead of their own wedding. Mariah said it wouldn’t have been possible to bring her and Tessa down about their wedding. Mariah hoped Victoria and Ashland could work things out. Sharon didn’t think that would happen, because Ashland had revealed he couldn’t be trusted, but she was sure Victoria would be fine since she had her family to get her through this.

Noah and Allie ran into each other in the park. She was in a great mood because she just toured the Jabot lab. Most chemistry labs were drab, but the Jabot lab was dazzling. Ashley spent over an hour with Allie, giving her an in depth tour. Allie felt honored. Noah guessed the lab smelled nice, since they made perfumes. Allie had gotten a sample. She extended her wrist to Noah, who leaned in and inhaled the scent. Allie laughed at herself for being such a nerd, geeking out over a lab, but Noah thought it was nice to see Allie so happy. He said her happiness was just a beaker away. He noted that she wasn’t groaning over his joke, like she usually did. She assured him she didn’t mean anything by that. It was her defense mechanism that came out around new people. She said she was surrounded by new people at her grandfather’s house, and it was a lot, but she was getting used to it. He asked if her dad never even gave her a hint about his family. She said he didn’t, and she’d never get the chance to ask why. She wondered if he’d planned on saying something at some point, or if he never wanted her to know about the Abbotts. The latter would be really hard for her, because the Abbotts had been incredibly kind. She liked all her relatives so much; she just wished Keemo had brought them into her life earlier. She kind of felt bad for finding fault in her dad.

A self-depreciating Allie assumed Noah thought she was being melodramatic for worrying about betraying her father by trying to get to know his father. That wasn’t what Noah felt. He said he knew what it was like to have your father and grandfather be on the outs. Nick had even once turned Victor in to the feds for some shady business dealings, and Victor nearly went to prison. Noah said Nick never kept the kids from seeing their grandfather. He suggested that her father would have the same attitude. She wondered if Noah thought her dad would be okay with her coming here. Noah didn’t know her dad, but he thought Keemo would be glad the Abbotts had been so welcoming to Allie. Allie appreciated Noah saying that. Noah mentioned he was going to go see the newlyweds, back from their honeymoon. He invited her to come along, and she accepted. She took his arm as they left the park.

Noah and Allie went to Crimson Lights. He introduced her to Mariah and Tessa as the wedding crasher. Allie playfully smacked Noah and pointed out that Summer invited her. Mariah and Tessa said they were glad Allie was at the wedding. Noah told Allie that Mariah worked at Jabot, but not at the cool part. They talked about the lab. Mariah thought that a tour of the lab would be great for a social media post. Tessa said that just like that, vacation was over, and Mariah was back to work. Noah offered to get everyone drinks. Mariah teased Noah by giving him a very complicated order, and Noah told only-child Allie that this was what it was like having siblings. Mariah wanted to get to know Allie better. Later, Noah showed Allie a photography book, which she enjoyed. The she left for the Abbott’s house. Nick came in. Mariah and Tessa got him a beret. They also got something for Christian. Mariah said she and her wife were going upstairs to rest. Noah had some work to do for New Hope. Nick would be there after he talked to Sharon.

Once they were alone, Sharon wanted to know what happened at the family meeting. Nick brought her up to speed. He said it was like a bizarre reverse intervention where Victoria gathered them together to say she was resuming her addiction. He said Ashland brainwashed Victoria into turning her back on the people who loved her most in the world. Sharon felt bad for Nikki, who must be heartbroken. Nick said Victor was too. Nick said that they were all really scared for Victoria. Nick didn’t understand how a savvy person like Victoria was taken in by the story that her love changed Ashland overnight. Sharon was shocked Victoria was going to quit her job. Sharon recalled that Victoria had been focused on work even when she got stabbed.

Nick asked for Sharon’s advice on how to talk to Victoria without making her more angry. Sharon said that Victoria made her decision and Nick wouldn’t be able to talk her out of it. She also thought that Nick shouldn’t badmouth Ashland to Victoria, even though he deserved it. Sharon thought Nick was justifiably upset, but when someone was digging their heels in, there was seldom anything anyone could do to help. Sharon said Nick should let Victoria know he was there for her if things went wrong and that she didn’t need to be embarrassed to come to him.

Mariah and Tessa were back upstairs. Mariah got Tessa tea for her throat. Tessa didn’t know how she was going to get used to not being around Mariah all the time when they were on tour. Summer: I mean, I get it. He’s your friend. You’re looking out for a friend.

Phyllis: Yeah, I’m looking out for — okay, um…hmm. I mean, Jack and I — Jack and i may be a little more than friends. It just — these days.

Summer: Wait, are you — mom, are you trying to tell me that you’re sleeping with my father-in-law?

*******************

Jack: I’m glad she’s spending some time with Phyllis. Her mother has missed having her close by.

Kyle: Mm, it goes both ways. She worries about her mom being too lonely, and we’re glad you’ve been keeping Phyllis company.

Jack: I’m not the only one. She’s got plenty of friends.

Kyle: Come on. I saw the dynamic between you two at the wedding. And come to think of it, you never did say why you were out so late afterward.

Jack: I think I know where this is headed, and I’m gonna stop you right now, because it’s none of your business.

Kyle: Ah, there it is. All the confirmation I need that you two must have been together.

Chance: Hey, that’s great, and not just for you, but for Jill, too. You know, she can start to enjoy life a little bit more.

Billy: Yeah, speaking of my mother enjoying life, tell me she sent you that ridiculous video of her in Bora Bora learning how to blow out of that conch shell.

Chance: [ Chuckles ] Classic, right?

Billy: Yeah. Well, that’s my mother. But business is good. Merger’s going well. Lily’s cooking up some exciting things with her brother.

*********************

Chance: Oh, you know what? Before I go, I just listened to your podcast, the one on insecurity. It was good, man. Really hit home.

Billy: You know what? Don’t be like that. Don’t be pulling my leg like that.

Chance: [Chuckles] I’m not, man. It was good. I liked it.

Billy: Well, thank you. I appreciate that. What do you know about insecurity anyway? What are you doing listening to a podcast about that? You’re like a superhero. You’re larger than life.

Chance: Well, you know, i haven’t talked to too many people about this, besides Abby, but adjusting to civilian life after Spain wasn’t easy. You know, I’m working through it and I’m all good, but just goes to show you, no one is immune to self-doubt. Keep it up.
