And I want to be supportive to that. But I also know that if I’m in the picture, it could pose a problem for her. She needs to just focus on herself, and I don’t want to mess things up.

It hasn’t been sober for six months. And another thing that they said was that a recovering addict should take at least that amount of time before making any big decisions.

She’s She’s probably going to need some physical therapy from being in a coma for so long, but the one thing I do know for certain Is that she is going to be surrounded with love and attention and that is going to be so so helpful for her recovery Yeah, I agree.

This is definitely a full house I call it a mixed bag of nuts and it’s only gonna get nuttier when Tony and Anna come home from Europe. Oh my god. I love Anna so much. She’s so hysterical. She’s got a heart of gold And it takes a heck of a woman to be with a DiMera man and oh and A karyakis, you know, they often live in the gray area.

But, based on some conversations I had with a couple of sources, That John Doe was in the hospital for over a year. And his release coincides with Everett’s resurgence. Okay. So to an extent, This guy appears to be telling you the truth.

Ever said that he was missing chunks of time before the accident? That the doctor said that it was retrograde amnesia, that, that maybe in time his memories would come back. Well, that doesn’t change the fact that he was married when he was dating you, it just means he doesn’t remember that fact.

We all learned so much from Tom and Alice.

Yeah, I remember when I was a kid. Sandy, I remember Tommy Horton’s daughter. I mean, she and I, we ran rough shots. Through that house, day and night. Oh, what, are you telling me you were a tiny terror? Oh, you bet. And then one day, I knocked over Alice’s new lamp, busted it into a million pieces. Leo Star? What are you doing here? He’s, he’s, he’s not here as Lady Whistleblower. He’s just, um, he wants to learn about the Horton family history. Uh, the Hortons have long been known as the first family of Salem. Would you do me the honor of telling me about them?

My, you look as pretty as a picture sitting there. Aren’t you the sweet talker? No, no, don’t get up. I’m coming. What do we have today? Tommy and Addie have kept me so busy this morning. I had to make one of those new macaroni and cheese meals right out of the box. Now don’t you tell my mother. How did you hide it from her when she came by to babysit?

It wasn’t easy. As you know, she likes to offer her opinions on my cooking and cleaning. Well, don’t change a thing for me. I think your ace is at taking care of our family of four. Actually, our little family of five. Are you? Holy smokes! Oh, it’s wonderful. It better not be twins this time. Three babies will be more than enough to handle.

Three youngsters in a little apartment. Well, now we have to move. And I hear those houses across the street, we’re back in production soon. They’re too expensive, Tom. We don’t need a house. We’ll manage. You’re right, darling Alice. Of course. You’re right.

So, the Horton family history in Salem begins with my grandparents. They were teenage sweethearts. Indeed they were. And they got married March 7th. 1930. Right here in Salem. Yes, darling, he did. Uh, my grandpa Tom was a medical student at the time, uh, at the university. And, uh, it was the Depression. The two of them lived in a tiny little apartment.

They didn’t get this house until they started their family. And the family started with my mother Addie and her brother Tom. Uh, they were twins. Uh, next comes, well Uncle Mickey, who became a very prominent lawyer in Salem. And he was married, first to Laura, and then to our darling Maggie. After that comes Bill.

Now he is the father of Jennifer and Michael and Lucas. And Bill was the one that brought me here to Salem. We met in prison, where I was being held. For being a con man. The plot thickens. Yes, yes. Well, Once he met the Hortons, the leopard changed his spots. Yes, then comes Aunt Marie, and Marie became a nun after she fell in love with a stranger in town who in time turned out to be her her brother, long lost in the Korean War.

The brother, Tommy. Brother and sister? Wow. Very Game of Thrones. Yes, well, I’m sure if we told you all about the Hortons, we would be here until Christmas. Of 2025. So, when do you join the picture? Well, my mother had, my mother Addie, had me and my brother Stephen by my father, Ben Olson. He passed away. Then after that, she was a widow for a while and then my mother remarried.

And she married me. After mother died, well, I’d always been crazy about Doug. And so, here we are. And we’ve been together ever since. The Wharton’s had their share of drama, Leo. They had mental illness, addiction, infidelity. Stranglers, stalkers, even demon possession. Yes. Yes, yes, but we rose above all of that, you see.

I, I think it was because of the, of the legacy of love that was passed on to us by Tom and Alice. Yeah. Tell them about the song. Their, their song. Well, why don’t you just sing a few bars instead? Oh, yes, please do. Oh, please. I’ll be loving. You always win with the love. The true always. Not for just an hour.

Not not just a day. Not for just a year, but.

Let me guess, is it called Always? Yes, by Irving Berlin, yes. This is an amazing story, truly. Would you mind if I wrote something for the Spectator about your family history? Okay, well, all the, uh, appliances will need to be replaced and rewired, but no worries. The insurance will cover it. Um, are Lucas and Thomas, are they still upstairs? They’re gonna be alright. You know. I’m gonna have to lose an abbey, you know what that says. As sad as it is, and as terrified as we all were about the fire, it’s At the day, it’s just things. It’s just material possessions. Yeah. Hey, hey, hey! Look what we found down in the cellar! The ornaments are safe! I was praying that they were These are irreplaceable.

We’re so fortunate, aren’t we, Alice? So many suffering all around us. And I feel bad that I’m not doing my part to help ease that suffering. So, I was thinking that maybe someday, when the kids are all off at school and you’re busy taking care of the sick at the hospital, I could run a center to help people in need.

What a swell idea. And knowing you, I suspect it’ll happen. I appreciate your faith in me. Well, I just know when you set your mind to something, it always happens. And speaking of that, I actually have something I want to show you. I was going to wait until we got home, but you know how impatient I am.

Oh my. Look at those. I had them made for the children too. One for Tommy, and Addie, and Mickey. So, we can make it a tradition. Every Christmas, we’ll put these ornaments on our tree. And, maybe someday, we’ll add ornaments for our grandchildren. And even our great grandchildren. Well then, we’re gonna need a bigger tree.

And a very big house. Oh, oh, are they all in this good condition? Crazy, huh? They look perfect. Without a crack in any of them. Oh boy. Oh, I can’t wait to tell Doug. Where is he? Um, next door. Talking to Dan and Dave, our neighbors. He had to catch up. You know, everything, you know. Julie? Look at these.

God is good. Yes. Tom and I want you and Bo to put this on the tree. It’s for a new great grandchild we’re going to bring another time. I

I got Tommy one of those flying planes. It’s supposed to be crash proof, but I’ll believe it when I see it. And I found that Shirley Temple doll for Addie. Jeez, what a search that was. And Oh. Oh, Tom. The house is sold. You seem disappointed. I am, actually. I admit that secretly, I wish we would live there one day.

Yes, well, sometimes wishes do come true.

Alice, my very generous father in law gave us the down payment. The house, it’s ours. What? The house? The house is ours! Oh, Tom! Oh, Tom, it’s ours! Oh, the house is ours!

Well, I’m dying to know what’s in it. What would Al put the time caps in? Hey, inquiring minds want to know. Well, at this rate, I’m not sure we’ll ever know. Ah, let’s not give up just yet. Get a hammer.

Maggie? You alright? Oh, I was just thinking. I was sitting in this very room when Tom passed away. Alice was in her chair. And Mickey and I were still together. My grandmother. She was the strongest one of all. She still inspires me. Everything she said about their life together, still gets me teary. Yet after everyone was gone, she and I, we were here, alone.

I’ll, uh, clear out these dishes to the kitchen for you, okay? I like it. Thank you. In

every small town, there is a place, a centerpiece, where townspeople gather to laugh, to cry, and to celebrate. In Salem, that place is 545 Sycamore Street, the home of Tom and Alice Horton. Most Salemites are familiar with Tom and Alice. After all, our town square is named after them. As lifelong residents, the Hortons taught their five children the value of community, compassion, resilience, and most of all, love of family and friends.

These principles were passed down to Tom and Alice’s ten grandchildren, their fifteen great grandchildren, and now great great grandchildren, with the legacy ever expanding. So many more of our townsfolk have been blessed to be welcomed into the Horton Fold as extended family. Many of them still visit the Horton House today to bask in the aura that lingers from the days of Tom and Alice.

That is, until some malicious malfeasant tried to incinerate their legacy by setting fire to this historic structure. But today, as I sat with the family in their charred living room, it was clear to me. The arsonist failed in his mission. For it is clear. Theirs is a legacy that can never be destroyed. It lives on in every kind word, every good deed, every heartfelt embrace extended by this family.

Indeed, Tom and Alice’s legacy has only grown stronger as the family unites with a commitment to rebuild and the hope for new beginnings. Tom and Alice Horton, thank you. 545 Sycamore Street. Salem loves you.

There’s nothing in the world I’d rather do than be here beside your Mama. Yeah. I do know that. Well, I’m glad you got a break. When are you going to take one? Well, I don’t know.

I used to do this all the time when I was a little kid.

She’d tell me that this is what mama goats did with their baby goats.

You know, I keep on thinking about all the wisdom that mama and big mama have given me over the years about dealing with tough times. And the thing that just keeps coming back to me is mama telling me Darling, you can’t change the direction of the wind, but you can adjust yourselves to make sure you always reach your destination.

I like that. And another one that I keep thinking of that Mama told me recently was, do not let your pain and your struggle make you a victim. You let your battle make you someone else’s hero. Your mama. Your mama’s my hero.

I’m just trying to tie up some loose ends, making sure a multinational corporation remains solvent.

Just, uh, been dealing with insurance adjusters, talking to, uh, contractors about repairs, and spending whole afternoons listening to that, uh, two hour on hold jingle. It’s wonderful. Anyway, what do you think this meeting’s about? Uh, something about Lucas Horton, that’s all I was told.

Well, um, beyond the, uh, Spectator article, which has turned out to be a bit controversial, I don’t know, uh, I don’t know what point they would have to talk to us. Yeah. No idea. Um, Off the topic of this, um, upcoming interrogation, uh, have you, uh, have you talked to Stephanie lately? No, why? Um, I guess there’s, there’s something that I want you to hear straight from me.

Um, Gentlemen? Gina. Why are we here? Is this about the uh, Lucas Horton article? This is about the attempted murder of Lucas Horton.

Like sand through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives. So

someone tried to kill Lucas? Is he, is he okay? He is fine. Fortunately. The investigation is still in its fact gathering phase. I don’t understand. How did this story not leak? You think you’re the only one who can keep a secret? Well, that’s kind of funny. You can say on PD’s history of leaking information.

What I can tell you is that the shooting occurred the same night that Detective Michaels was hit. Okay, so also the same night as the fire. Yes. The gunman broke into the Brady Pub, opened fire in Harris room, where Lucas was being held. And the reason the two of you are here is because only a very small and selective group of people knew Lucas location.

Harris, Roman, Kate, and the two of you. Which means that one of the aforementioned people gave up Lucas location. And we are determined to find out who that was.

Oh, well, that’s a pretty limited selection of books at the library, if you can call it that. No, no pride in the prejudice. You know, that’s Mama’s favorite. No, just some 20 year old travel guides and some cookbooks. And she’s still asleep, I see. Yeah. Yeah, Kayla said that, um, she may not wake up for a while because of the medication.

You know, I keep thinking that we were so worried about the cancer and now,

you know. Mama has said to me a lot over the years, whenever I’ve done something stupid, she would say, Chanel, you’re gonna give your mama a heart attack.

And I bet she won’t be making that joke anymore. No, I don’t think she will. Oh, Abe, after everything Mama’s gone through, then Yes. That’s been a lot. It’s been a lot. But you know, your mother’s favorite expression, God doesn’t give us any more than we can handle. Right. And Mama can handle anything that’s thrown her way.

Isn’t that right, Mama? You can handle anything. And then some. You’re gonna make it through this.

Holly’s home? Since when? Since late afternoon yesterday, the doctors in Italy were confident that she could handle the flight back home with her mother, of course, and that the best situation for her right now is to be in her own bed, in her own home, under the supervision of her doctors here in Salem, of course.

Right, but, I mean, I’m assuming that since the doctors over there allowed her to fly all the way over here and be in a Non hospital setting, that means she’s on the mend, right? Well, she’s breathing on her own, so yes, that is a good sign. And thank God EJ had a positive experience with those doctors in Italy.

Worked miracles for him and were able to bring Holly to the stage of her recovery. That’s just, I mean, that’s great. So, what are next steps? So, the next step is to remain hopeful that she will Open her eyes and smile that big smile and then immediately ask for her phone so she can check her texts and emails.

Exactly. Well, whatever the case, I’m just, I’m glad you guys are both home. As am I. I’m ecstatic. Um, EJ’s been filling me in on everything, and how did Paulina’s thyroid surgery go? Um, yeah, it was successful. So that’s good. They got all the cancer out. There was no metastasis. However, she did have a heart attack.

What? Yeah. My God. At the end of her But, fortunately, she was already in the hospital, so they were able to treat her quickly. She had an angioplasty to unblock a coronary artery, and I guess they’re saying she’s in stable condition. Thank God for that. Tony, if there’s anything that she needs, or any of you need, please don’t hesitate to ask us, okay?

Yeah, I will. Um Also, I do have some, some other news that happened at the hospital earlier today.

Need we have a stiff drink at the ready for this other news? Um, more like champagne. See, as of now, Chanel and I are, uh, husband and wife. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, what? When, when did this happen and where? It happened at the hospital. Uh, you know, we both knew how important the wedding ceremony was to Paulina, so we just had it at her bedside.

Well, that’s perfect. Paulina must’ve been thrilled. Yes, she was a very happy mother of the bride. Well, how is she doing? She’s resting. You know, just, uh, waiting to see what the next steps are in her recovery. Well, we will be praying for her. And Johnny, I’m so happy for you and Janelle. Thank you. Thank you.

And I am very, very happy for you as well, son. Just a little bit hurt that Nicole and I weren’t invited to the wedding. Yeah, well, look, I know. I am sorry. Okay, it’s just, we knew too much excitement probably wasn’t very good for Paulina, so we wanted to keep it limited to just Abe, Chanel, and me. I understand, and I’m just teasing you.

And look, son, I know that I haven’t been supportive in the past about your relationship with Chanel, but I see how much she improves your life. And that you two, uh, you complement each other. And I love that. You have my blessing. Well, thank you dad, that means a lot. It does. So I assume you and Chanel would like to move into one of the wings of the house?

Oh, or, or, maybe they want to become um, Oh god, what is, what’s that phrase? Digital nomads? You know where they travel the world? Oh yes, yes, I see that thing on the phone. Um, yeah, no. No? No traveling the world. Anytime soon, anyway. I think it’d be a little difficult for Chanel to run the bakery digitally, Shaq.

Oh, true. Yeah, that really wouldn’t work. Mm hmm. And as for our living situation, honestly, we haven’t even had a chance to talk about it. I mean, we’ve been so preoccupied. With Paulina’s health issues. I mean, honestly, Chanel hasn’t even left the hospital since the wedding. Other than a quick shower and she’s gone out to the parking lot to get a breath of fresh air.

Yeah, well, obviously, you, you have a lot going on. And if you two do change your mind about the living situation, even just temporarily, just say the word and we’ll have a space prepared for you. Thank you. I appreciate that. But, I have a feeling we’re gonna want a place of our own. I understand the thought.

Um, now, if it’s okay with you guys, can I go see Holly? Yes, yes, of course. I’m sure she would love a visitor. There’s no way that either one of us would compromise Lucas. First of all, he was Abigail’s uncle. Why would I put my own family at risk? I don’t know, Mr. DiMera. But all I know is that some people don’t view family the way most of us do.

Detective Hunter, surely you can see that it doesn’t make any sense for us to betray Lucas Horton. Especially when he provided us valuable information in the hopes of thwarting the drug trade in Salem. Yeah, I mean, what purpose would it serve? Um, I don’t know, that’s why we’re having this little chat right now.

So let’s go back to the interview, okay? How did you contact Mr. Horton? We didn’t, he called us. Who did he call, specifically? Me.

Okay, well, who was present when you took Mr. Horton’s call? It was only me and, and Everett when we got the call at the office. Who did you tell about the call? Like I said, only Everett. And I only found out who we were going to meet once we were actually leaving for the pub. I can assure you, Detective Hunter, that Everett and I were the only two people that knew about Lucas location.

Let’s get back to the call from Mr. Horton. You say you were in the office, Mr. DiMera? Was anyone else aside from this man in the office with you? Was it possible that maybe somebody overheard you, like a janitor, delivery guy? No. No, everybody had gone home for the night. You sure about that? Mr. Stein? Lynch.

Okay, well forgive me, but your word really doesn’t mean much to me now. Okay, look, I really don’t understand why you’re being so hostile. Here, alright, so, let me repeat. The office was empty when I got the call from Lucas. Except for me, Everett, and some, some, some wheat drip coffee. We left, no one followed us.

No one knew where we were going. We didn’t tell anyone where we were going. Okay, we never compromised the source. It just, it wouldn’t happen. So you say. And yet, right after you saw Lucas at the Brady Pub, you paid Clyde Weston a visit at Statesville. Care to explain?

She’s gonna make a full recovery? Well, there is something that I’d like to talk to the two of you about. Some good news and some not so good news.

Why don’t we start with the good news? That’s what I thought. Well, as you both know, the thyroidectomy was a success. And based on all of the follow up tests and the lab samples, etc., Paulina’s recovery from surgery is progressing just as we had hoped. So, the surgery wasn’t the cause of the heart attack?

No, it was not. And, um, in regards to the heart attack, we are so lucky that your mother was here so that we could do an angioplasty immediately and put the stent in place. But even so, after a heart attack, there is damage to the heart when it has lost its blood supply. And as it heals, it can form scar tissue.

So that’s a bad thing? Well, scar tissue does not constrict or pump blood as efficiently as healthy heart tissue. So, what, what does all that mean? Well, basically it means that Pauline is going to have a long road to recovery. I’m going to set her up with cardiac rehab today. But even so, that, that may not be enough.

What do you mean not enough? Well, why don’t we wait and see how the rehab goes. Given the degree of damage and scar tissue in Paulina’s case, she may need a heart transplant.

What’s going on here?

Hasn’t been the same without you. Personally, I missed the, um, That, uh, mouth watering smell of those macaroons Chef was always making for you. Just, uh, coming in the door. Listen, the only thing that we wanted to do was write a comprehensive article with a diversity of voices and viewpoints. So we went to confirm some facts. Do you really think that I would have the slightest desire to be in the same room as the man who murdered my wife? The only thing I want for that son of a bitch is pain and sorrow. I get that. I understand that your history with Clyde Weston is very tragic. For that, I am sorry that I have to ask. It’s fine.

You’re doing your job, I guess. What about you? What’s your connection to Clyde Weston? Matter of fact, it’s hard to really tell who you have a connection with nowadays. Mr. Stein? The name is Lynch, and no, I don’t have any connection with Clyde Weston, for which I am grateful, given that he is a homicidal maniac.

Yeah, well, see, you spoke with Clyde Weston, and then you visited him. And then afterwards, Lucas Horton’s safe house was compromised. Yes, and as I think we’ve made clear many times, not by us.

Well, as you might guess, your word means absolutely nothing to me. Nothing. So I’m gonna sit here, patiently, calmly, until one of you tells me something that I can actually believe.

I, uh, I hope she heard all that stuff. I was telling her about how much we miss her. I’m sure she did. You know, I read that when you talk to someone you love and touch them when they’re in a coma, it helps their recovery. Yeah. I can’t help but, but think that if I had just talked to her more, before, This happened, you know, or listened better.

I, I mean, I, I knew she had this, this crush that Johnny, Johnny, stop. Listen, what you did or, or did not do, it, it didn’t cause any of this. Of course not. The only one to blame here is Tate Black. Alright, EJ. Please.

Okay, well, screw Clyde, okay? Seriously, Stefan. Why the hell should I worry about how, how Clyde is gonna take Harris coming out of his coma?

You were shocked, and you’ve been in a coma quite some time. Gave us all quite a scare. God, what is

taking so long? Kayla’s probably got a hundred tests she’s gotta run. Yeah, well surely someone could come out and tell us what’s happening. They got protocols. Look, I gotta get going, okay? So why don’t you just text me if you hear anything. Okay, are you kidding? Don’t leave. Yeah, don’t leave. How about if nobody goes anywhere?

Good, your breathing is stabilized. How do you feel? Mostly tired. A little woozy. Definitely better, though. What happened to me? Well, I think you had a panic attack. Have you ever dealt with claustrophobia before? Not that I remember nothing like this, that’s for sure.

You remember when I was in total claustrophobic panic mode? And you told me that you weren’t going anywhere. I’m not. Yeah. You kind of don’t have a choice. It’s true. Yeah, but even if I did have a choice, there’s no place I’d rather be than just wherever you are. Indeed.

Uh, well, Stephanie and I and Grace. We were, we were at the Brady Pub waiting for, um, Jada to arrive. Yeah, and I suggested that we have a double date with Jada and Rafe. So that they could meet Everett. Um, Jada. So that Jada could Anyway, uh, Rafe already had. Well, she was, she was later than, than the three of us.

And, um, when she came in and she saw me, Uh, she just, uh, just totally lost it, you know. Um, she was very angry. Enraged, you might say. Uh, you know, she thought that I was her ex husband. She accused me of lying, um, went on about how I, How I cheated on her and, and nothing that I said could convince her that I, that I wasn’t her ex.

Jada and I, we grew up together. Our parents were all friends. And we just recently started getting close. So she told me about her ex. How she’d been terribly hurt by him. She’d found out that he cheated on her. They got in a really big fight, apparently. And after she served him with divorce papers. He disappeared.

Mm hmm. So when she became so angry, how did you react? When she was very confrontational, as I said, and, of course, you know, I was, I was totally thrown. Um, I was upset. Wow. But it’s funny, as, as she was hurling these insults at me, and, and telling me what a horrible, deceitful person that I was, I couldn’t help but feel sorry for her, you know?

And then, and then she, she showed up. At my, at my door with a, um, A, uh, a fingerprint scanner. Oh. And did that confirm that you were Robert Stein?

I mean, I don’t,

I don’t know how That could be possible, you know, I mean I feel like, uh, I feel like I’m losing my mind. Or maybe I’ve, I’ve already lost it, I don’t know. I swear to you, my name is Everett Lynch, I don’t even know who Robert Stein is.

Stephanie, you said that you and Everett were in a relationship several years ago? Yes, when we were both living in Seattle. And that ended. Why was that?

Everett left one day to go to work and didn’t come back. I thought he’d disappeared on me, ghosted me. But it turns out he was in an accident. I see. A very serious accident, which left him in a coma. I didn’t know that. Until a few months ago, when he came to Salem and found me.

So you have no memory of ever being Bobby Stein? No. Absolutely not. And I don’t ever recall being married. And, uh,

the woman, I don’t ever remember Dr. Evans, how is it possible that Everett remembers some things but not others? He remembers me, and his life as Everett Lynch, but not his ex wife. Well, that is possible in some cases. I mean, it’s possible that Everett had dissociative amnesia. Or traumatic amnesia. Those things happen with PTSD.

What, from the, from the accident? Yes. So it really is possible that, after the accident, Everett’s brain turned off the memories of being Robert Stein? Yes, that’s possible.

I mean, uh, just when I thought I was getting my life back together with the woman that I love. Just when I thought that the nightmare Of that accident of being trapped in an unconscious state for a year, being separated from Stephanie, just when I thought all of that was behind me and I could finally start living the life that I’ve always wanted to live.

Then I find out

Go on. I mean, is it possible? Could it be true that, that, that I’m not who I thought I was? That I’m, that I’m someone who, who cheated on his wife? Who lied to her? Was, was cruel to her? Could it be true that That I Am Bobby Stein?

Well, it’s probably pretty late. I don’t think I’ll be able to go to sleep. What about you? Definitely not. I guess we could swap stories from the past. What kind of stories? Anything. You know, you haven’t really shared that much of your childhood with me. There’s not much to tell. I mean, I, I was, I was born in Hong Kong, as you know.

And then I lived, I lived there for about six years. And then we moved to India for my father’s business. What was that like? Uh, you know, it was a tough adjustment at first. But I grew to love it. I mean, you know, I was a tomboy back then, and I was pretty athletic, and I preferred hanging out with the guys.

Well, you know, we can be pretty fun, us guys. Yeah, I definitely thought so at the time.

And then there was this one guy, Samir. He ended up being my best friend. And when we went rock climbing, and then he taught me how to skateboard. He was an amazing skateboarder. No, I’m serious. Like, he did all sorts of tricks. Like the dolphin flip and the double kickflip. Wow, so was Samir your first crush by chance?

Uh, I was nine, Tripp. Wow, an older man. He was older, yeah, but That was, anyway, that was a long time ago and far away, so Now it’s your turn to tell me more about your childhood. Let me, uh, let me save that for another time. It’s mostly kind of sad, and I think right now we should really stick to the light hearted stuff, you know?

Okay. Um, then how about you tell me a funny story? From like med school days or whatever. Hmm, okay, funny. Okay, med school. Um Okay, I got one. Okay. I was in my second year of med school. I was doing my hospital rotations. Uh huh. And I asked this patient who was complaining about dizziness if she had ever been diagnosed with vertigo.

Her daughter immediately chimed in right away and was like, no, no, no, no, no. She’s a Libra. She was joking, right? No, no, no. She was dead serious. Oh, yeah. Oh, and this, uh, one time This patient came in and she had good news and bad news. Okay. Yeah, and she said, okay. The wonderful medicine that works for my ears, you have no idea.

My ears are clear now. And I said, oh, that’s great. That’s fantastic. Yeah. She said, yeah, but they tasted terrible. Oh, no. Yeah. Oh. She actually swallowed her own eardrops. Yeah, but she felt better, so I mean, whatever. Oh! Oh, and this happened recently, this, uh, uh, I was examining this patient, this sweet, sweet elderly woman who was kind of flirting with me.

Right. And, uh, I lean in to check her eyes. And she looks at me, and she says, very coyly, she says, You look like my third husband. And I said, Wow, third? Okay, well, how many have you had? She said, Two. Wow. Yeah. I love that. I love you. I love you so much. Rafe, um, what’s going on with Harris? Well, he opened his eyes.

And, uh, Kayla’s in there with him now. Okay, look, Ava, I’m sorry, but I really gotta get back to work. Okay, wait, no, no, no. I texted with Elliot. Everything is fine at the bistro. Yeah, I think it’s a good idea that you both stick around, in case Harris has anything to say. Hey. Hey, Caleb. How is he? Well, he’s awake.

But I’m not really succeeding at the moment. I’m scared.

They would have found if you had a brain tumor. Let’s not borrow trouble, okay? Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I’m sorry. I’m really sorry.

I don’t know if, if I can I’ll totally be alone right now.

I think it’s important that we have as much information, psychological again, neurologically, as we can about your case, in order to Give you the best diagnosis. Right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And, in your experience, I know you can’t say definitively, but, uh, when you’ve dealt with this sort of an issue, do you think it’s possible that I’ll remember those parts of my life that my, my brain seems to have completely deleted?

I can’t guarantee that. But of course, it’s what we’re all hoping for, isn’t it?

So this, baking it till you make it, is um, actually working better than I thought it would. And I’m gonna sound like a really nerdy doctor here, but the reason is because when you smile, your brain releases these tiny molecules called neuropeptides, and they, uh, help fight off stress. And then later on, other neurotransmitters like dopamine and endorphins and serotonin, they all come into play later on.

Okay. Okay. So in layman’s terms, smiling can trick you into feeling happier. Right. And on an even happier note, at least we know people are probably looking for us by now. Since I missed my hospital shift. Yeah, and since I’ve missed at least one work day at the police station. Yeah, and our mom is probably going crazy with worry.

She’s probably having my dad work his ass off trying to find us. But how would people know to look for us here? Yeah, that, I, uh, I don’t know. Pretty desolate area. Yeah, the old brewery by the airport. Tripp, it seems the only way we’re going to get out of here is if we find a way out ourselves. I know, but we’ve already tried to escape out of all the obvious ways we’re going to think outside the box.

Yeah, we are. And with big smiles on our faces, right? Right. Because we believe we can do this. Because we are clever, and resourceful, and you Are incredibly strong, and valiant, and fearless, and, and intrepid. How am I doing? You’re doing great, I don’t even think you’re faking it anymore. Actually, I’m not. No, I’m feeling genuinely positive right now.

I know that Kristen had promised to let you see Rachel for Valentine’s Day. Did she follow through with that?

Yes, she did. She did. I went over to the DiMera mausoleum and I brought a teddy bear– big teddy bear– balloons and candy and everything I could think of. But there stood Kristen, and what do you know? We got into one of our box-office, drag-out fights. And it escalated, and Rachel was right there. She witnessed most of it. And she–she screamed at us. She said, stop fighting. Stop screaming, Mom and Dad. Stop. And I’m like, this is my Valentine’s Day. This is my life. I lost Chloe. I–I have a little girl that’s traumatized that I don’t have custody of. And I have a Machiavellian, insane ex-wife. I mean–

[chuckling] I mean, you know… that’s my life.

[sniffles]

I’m sorry this is happening to you.

[sighs]

But Rachel is your daughter, and she loves you, and she will love you no matter– no matter what happens.

The thing is that… no matter what you’re going through with Kristen, you can’t fight in front of her. You just can’t do that.

I know. I know. I know. But damn it–damn it, Marlena. Every time I’m– I am resolved to– to take the high road with Kristen for the sake of my daughter and not expose her to the toxic relationship that is her mother and father, every single time, as soon as I get around that lunatic bitch, I lose it. And I–I–I– my resolve goes away. It just weakens and cracks, and I blow it. I blow it every time! Completely.

That’s not what I meant, and nobody said that, of course. I’m just saying– hey, I’m saying maybe we just need to slow it down a little bit, or slower. It doesn’t mean it’s harmful, OK? Listen, you have a child. You have a son. It’s not even just us.

A child? Come on, Alex. Tate is nearly an adult. Listen, why don’t you try doing one of two things here, OK? You can either tell a lie and just say that you have commitment problems, or tell the truth and just say you don’t want to be with me. So which one is it gonna be, huh?

OK. So there were these letters that Tate wrote to Theresa and me, two separate letters. And in Theresa’s letters, he talked about how much he missed her. My letter was… very cold. It was almost businesslike. And I know it’s because my son resents that I haven’t been in his life. That’s why.

We all know why that is. We all know what happened. Tate knows it too.

And like anyone with a modicum of self-esteem, I think this ring is for me. Alex is gonna propose to me. So I’m walking on air and I’m waiting for this proposal to happen, and it turns out he’s not. He’s not proposing to me. He was never gonna propose to me. And I made it very clear to him that I thought that he was– he was gonna propose to me. And so I was so embarrassed and completely humiliated.

I’m–I’m sorry. Wow. Theresa, I’m actually really surprised. I had no idea that the two of you were even considering marriage.

I went to this meeting for, like, qualifying loved ones of addicts. Everybody in there was sharing their feelings and their stories, and I just shot my hand up. Said hi, I’m Alex. And God, I just got everything off my chest. I talked about Theresa, I talked about her addiction, I talked about how much she meant to me, how much I care for her. And I admitted that I wasn’t sure that I was able to get into a long commitment to somebody who’s dealing with problems like that, just like I admitted to you, too.

Yes, you did.

I also admitted that I might not be too sure about becoming a stepfather quite yet.

Well, Alex, I think you got to be true to yourself. That’s what’s important.

You did the right thing for both of you.

Sloan, you are not seeing things clearly. Look, Eric is not only your partner and your lover, your best friend, he is the father of your baby. You have a family now. So you need to stop focusing on what you’re not getting, and focus on being supportive of Eric’s devotion to Jude. And maybe be a tad more supportive of the little guy yourself. I mean, you are his mother, for heaven’s sake.

By all indications, yes. The lymph nodes were clear. There was no metastases, and we were able to preserve the parathyroid.

Oh, that is such great news.

So what’s the next step in her recovery?

Mainly just a lot of rest. But she may have a little pain in the incision site, but it’s nothing to worry about. And she might have some difficulty speaking.

Difficulty speaking? Well, she’s not going to like that.

Well, it’s just temporary. In the meantime, the hospital will give her a whiteboard and some post-it notes if she wants to say something.

When can she come home?

Well, I’d like to keep her here for a couple of days, keep an eye on her. I can talk to you later about some follow-ups and long-term care. Yeah.

[sighs] You hear that, Mama? You’re going to be OK. You are going to be more than OK.

So, you know, this is cause for celebration.

Well, it was delicious. And I’m sure it was much appreciated by the newest residents of the Kiriakis mansion, Chad and Charlotte, Thomas, Julie, and Doug.

Oh, such a terrible misfortune losing their house in a fire.

Yeah, and it meant so much to them, to all of us. But wasn’t it wonderful, in spite of everything that they’ve gone through, Doug and Julie, they were so spirited tonight, so determinedly upbeat?

You know, in Greece, it is not the tradition to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

–so erudite when it came to Greek mythology. He used to compare our love to Eros and Psyche, me being Psyche, a woman of unmatched beauty, and he’s Eros, an unsightly beast, who was madly in love with Psyche.

That is a lovely and, some might say, a well-worn tale. But did you know that in Greek, Psyche actually means “soul”?

Hmm. I did not know that.

Well, now you do. And speaking of souls, it is a privilege to get to know you better and better, Maggie, and to celebrate your incredible soul.

That’s very kind. Konstantin, though, you have a very generous and gentle heart. I could see that when– I don’t know, when the way you interacted with Thomas and Charlotte earlier.

I admit, I have a soft spot for the little ones.

Konstantin, I’m sorry. I know what it’s like. I know what it’s like to lose a child. The pain, it– it reaches the depths of your being. And even though time lessens the acuteness of it, it’s there. It’s always there, the pain.

Yes, it is. I tried to conjure up memories of her tender smile, the way the– the sun shone off my daughter’s beautiful hair. It is those memories that delivered to me some kind of peace, serenity.

Yes, it’s true. I was in an accident. I got hit by a car, one of those giant pickup trucks. I count my blessings every single day I’m alive.

It was my fault. I asked him to run errands, and he was just crossing the street and–

Steph, please, please. The only person who bears responsibility for that accident is the genius driver, who was, I’m told, playing “Candy Crush” on his phone at the time. Anyway, I’m not sure why we’re telling them this. But anyway, after I was struck down, I was apparently carted off in an ambulance, close to death, and placed into a medically induced coma for a year.

So he disappeared. I thought he ghosted me. I was confused, obviously, heartbroken, until he came back a couple of months ago. And he tracked me down.

I don’t buy it.

Well, speaking for myself, I don’t know what to believe right now. So if it’s OK with you, Everett, I’m going to personally look into this. And hopefully, we’ll get it all straightened out.

Yes, great. I love it; look into it. I have nothing to hide.

OK, fine. I mean, as we all know, you know, people do get amnesia all the time, and they can forget whole chapters of their life. So yes, why don’t you feel free to explore that idea? But I can tell– I can tell by looking in your eyes that you know me, and you know that we were married. And you know that you are still the same lying, cheating son of a bitch.

You are obviously in a world of pain from how you were treated, apparently, by your ex-husband. And that must be the reason that you would throw these kind of insane insults at a man who has never, ever laid eyes on you before. So let me just say this one more time so that you can finally accept it, and we can move on. I’m not your ex-husband. I am not Bobby Stein. My name is Everett Lynch.

So she married a guy who looks like me. There are people in the world who look like each other, look-alikes, you know? And my God, I think I’d know my own name, all right? And it is not Stein. It is Lynch. My name is Everett Lynch. It is– it is on my driver’s license. Do you want to see it?

Is it possible that you don’t remember your past life with Jada because of the accident?

No. It is not possible. In fact, it is impossible. I mean, yes, there are– there are gaps in my memory, OK, you know, like maybe movies that I forgot that I saw or friends’ bachelor parties that I forgot getting bombed at, but not years or entire relationships. I mean, I think I’d remember getting married.

OK. The truth is I bought it a long time ago, before the accident.

I’m going to go to the station right now. I am going to find everything there is about Everett Lynch, no stone unturned.
