Right. So, that feels important to say. Um, but what I do know is that, There is a potential for that. Um, a coma can cause a wide range of cognitive and physical impairments, which can include memory loss. Uh, short term. A long term? Well, that depends on the severity of the brain damage that caused the coma and how long a person’s in a coma.

So her, but her memories could come back. Sarah, my, my, my, my son’s future depends upon Holly remembering what happened the night she OD’d. Right. So. Right, no, I, I understand Brady. And I am. I am so sorry because I can’t even imagine how hard that has to be. Um, you know, like I said, neurology is not my specialty.

But what I do know from my limited experience, once a coma patient regains consciousness, um, their memories could come back quickly, gradually, or sometimes not at all. Yeah, I read that online. Okay, so I’m going to go make a call to get the ball rolling. Mom, I don’t get it. Why do I have to plead guilty when I’m innocent? Tate, it’s to get you out of this mess. It’s a tactic, okay, to get you home sooner. We don’t know if EJ’s gonna drag this out for the long haul. It’s, it’s a guarantee of a light sentence.

But Holly could come around. She could tell the truth when she remembers.

I’ll be meeting with the judge soon to file a formal complaint against EJ. Hopefully I can get him removed from the case due to bias and non objectivity. That would be great. It’s a long shot, but there’s a chance the judge will see it our way. EJ seems to have some really strong pull with the judges.

I’m aware. We’ll know soon enough how the complaint pans out, but in the meantime, I need Tate to stay mentally sharp and focused in case this goes to trial. You two think you’re gonna double cross Clyde Weston? Do you have any idea how insane that is? Steve, how could you even think of risking our son’s safety like this?

I’m doing it for his safety. Look, we’re taking all this risk to break that maniac out of prison. So what if he takes off and he doesn’t give us Tripp back? That is a risk I’m not willing to take. So we’re going to hold Clyde’s feet to the fire for as long as it takes until he coughs up Tripp and Wendy’s location.

I remember all of those things.

And then I’m very grateful for honey.

And I’m also grateful for all the support that I had because if it weren’t for EJ and, and Eric, I don’t know what I would have done.

You know, I can’t believe we’ve never talked about this, but are you religious at all? Uh, what I was taught growing up was to seek enlightenment through meditation. And it was also turned into me that life is beautiful and mysterious.

But it’s also full of suffering and uncertainty. Like right now. Wendy, I’m so sorry. If it weren’t for me, you’d be in China right now with your family. Stop. Okay, enough with the guilt, Tripp. I’m here because we fell in love. Because I love you, Tripp Johnson. And if I had to choose between Living a hundred years, not knowing you.

I can’t believe this is happening. Mama just got through cancer, and, and her surgery was a success. She was supposed to be out of the woods. We were all so happy, and Johnny and I had just gotten married, and, and, and. Mama, she, she was recovering and she was doing fine.

When I was little, my aunt Paulina seemed indestructible. She was a force to be reckoned with. I remember looking at her and thinking she made all the other adults just shake in their boots.

I had no idea she was going through hell. I didn’t know that she was in an abusive marriage. That she was forced to give up her child.

She pushed through the other side. She’s a survivor.

Do you remember when I first found out that she was my biological mother? God, I was, I was so upset at her for keeping it from me. Like, I was awful to her, Chanel. Yeah, but that’s understandable, okay? But I know, I know that she was doing it to protect me. I know that she wanted to keep me away from her. A man that would abuse me and beat me like he did her.

She sacrificed her own happiness for me.

Just like you would for Jules and Carver. But my babies are gonna grow up without their grandmother. They, they won’t remember her. Chanel, they’re too little. Yeah. My kids, they won’t, they won’t know her at all. I’ll never get to hear the sound of her voice or see her face light up whenever she lays eyes on them.

God, Lani, what are we gonna do? Mama is the one person that loves us no matter what.

The most pure and unconditional love is between a mother and her child. No matter how many mistakes we make, our mother still loves us. You know? And how lucky are we?

We are so lucky.

I have, uh, accessed some of your medical records. It says here that you suffered a traumatic brain injury and that you were in a medically induced coma. Uh, that’s right, for a year. Yes, a year. Um, tell me, when you were brought out of the coma, what were some of your first memories? Um,

I, I felt like I was in a fog, you know, um, everything was fuzzy. I remember out of the corner of my eye, there was this nurse in green scrubs going in and out of the room. And, uh, and then this, This doctor came in and, and he, he started asking me questions. I imagined to determine how lucid I was.

And the first question that he asked me

was, what is your name? Yes, uh, I assume that you told him that it was Everett Lynch, correct? Yes, that’s That’s right. Because that’s who I am. Yes, Stephanie, it will take more than a day to restore the house. It’ll take a village, as Hillary loved to say. Well, in that vein, I’ve got to go outside, talk to the carpenters who are giving me an estimate.

And if you would be so good as to go upstairs and just check on the guy that’s cleaning the walls. I will do that. Thank you. Doug wants me to, um, Look through the closet in the back bedroom. That’s where he kept all of his, his music archive. Yeah, the, uh, the scores, the, the sheet music, and his memorabilia from, from all the years when he toured the country singing.

You know, clippings, and photos, and I just pray to God that it made it through the fire unscathed, because those are some of his best memories, and well, they mean the world and all to him. I can only imagine. Stephanie, uh, I hope Everett regains his memory, too. You said Marlena was going to try and help them with that.

She is. And hopefully she will succeed. As much as that scares me.

You understand how, how we’ve been waiting anxiously and desperately for Holly to be able to set the record straight about what happened the night she OD’d? Brady. My son is, my son’s life has been on hold. He’s in a halfway house because he was falsely accused of pushing drugs on your little girl. I’m sorry, Brady, if I didn’t call you right when Holly woke up, okay?

But right now we are focusing on her getting better and her well being, okay? My gosh, you’re almost dying, Brady. I know, I know, I know, yes, I understand that. I’m relieved, of course I’m relieved, but I’m worried about my son, too. Nicole, when are you going to talk to her about the drugs? We’ve already spoken to her about that.

And? And, I’m afraid you’re not going to be happy about what she had to say. Oh, Sarah. so

much for bringing her. Yeah, she was missing her dog. I was too. But, hopefully not for too long. What do you mean? Well, I’ve been waiting to tell you since you came in. But you were so excited to see Victoria. No, tell me what? Harris Michaels is awake. And recovering in the hospital. What? Oh my god, did he Did he say who did it, who shot him?

Everett, can you tell me about Some of your earliest memories Say from the time you were Three, four years old Because those Memories are the earliest that we think of as retrievable. Um, yeah. Earliest memories.

My mother, when I was, uh, maybe three? She, she baked me this, um, birthday cake. Uh, shaped like a Formula One race car, you know. Single seat with the, The candle sticking out of the open cockpit, uh. She loved to bake. She was, uh, beautiful. Kind. She always used to say, I remember this, um, Just be nice, you know.

Everybody’s going through something. That was her mantra.

It looks promising, doesn’t it? I think once, uh, once everything’s laundered, a lot of it should be wearable again. And there’s a lot more upstairs. Yeah, well, we’ll salvage something. Wait. Look at this. Look at this. It’s one of Doug’s albums. Yes. I don’t think a needle has touched it since the 1970s. But it’s intact.

Why won’t I like what Holly said?

Listen, Brady, Holly is still a little foggy about what happened that night. Things are still a little unclear. But she said that the OD’d on, were not hers. She doesn’t know how they got into her system, so we believe that someone must have slipped her those drugs.

Tell me right now that you don’t think it’s my kid.

Well, EJ wonders who else would have motive and opportunity. Okay, EJ, okay, listen, listen. My kid would not do anything like this. My kid would not push drugs on a girl and try to take advantage of her. Regardless of what EJ thinks. My kid does not push drugs. He doesn’t do drugs. As a matter of fact, Nick, he has an aversion to drugs because he’s fully aware of his parents addictive history.

And you know all about it. Yeah. Okay, you’ve told me about it. Quite frankly, I, I, I don’t know what to believe right now. It’s a lot to take in, okay? But I do know that right now, I need to be home with my daughter. Nick, please, please give me, just please. Sorry, give me a minute. You need to understand that my kid went to jail.

Because he found your daughter passed out on the loading docks, okay? And he panicked like any 16 year old kid would. He looked me in the face and said, Dad, those drugs were not mine, I didn’t give them to her. And I believe him. You know why I believe him, Nick? Because he’s a good kid, he’s a good person. I never said he wasn’t.

And Holly, Holly admits she was foggy about what happened. She’s still foggy about it. My kid has been clear from day one, the day it happened. I think I should, I, I, I need to talk to your daughter. I want to talk to Holly, please. No, Brady, I’m sorry, that’s not going to happen.

Why is that not going to happen? Why can’t I talk to Holly? Because, Brady, right now we are focusing on her healing and well being. And we can’t allow anything to disrupt that. Nicole. My kid’s life hangs in the balance here. Do you understand this kind of thing can jeopardize his entire future? Do you understand that?

So jump out and scare the hell out of it. Well, I hope it isn’t anything creepy. We’ve had enough pandemonium and creepy things to last a lifetime. I hope it’s something that just. Brings joy up to the maximum. Hear, hear. Yeah.

Hmm. Obviously you have some positive memories of your mother. Yeah. Yeah, I do. Um, But I admit, I haven’t, I haven’t thought about her in a long time. I mean, but that makes sense, doesn’t it? Because it’s my own middle name, my mother’s surname. Do you have any idea why you chose those names? Uh, none, no. No. What can you tell me about your father?

sorry. Is that, is that because of the brain accident after the A brain injury after the accident? Yes. I would assume so. I mean, really though? I mean, what does, does every war correspondent or every pedestrian in a road accident for that matter just put Forget their father. I mean, Why, why would I just completely obliterate him from my mind?

So do you suppose that Harris hasn’t said who shot him because you didn’t see the person or because he doesn’t remember? He says he doesn’t remember. And in your very wise, doctorly opinion, will he ever remember? Have those memories sunk to the bottom of the ocean, or are they more like messages in a bottle, and they’re just bobbing around, hopefully to one day reach the shore again?

That’s really hard to say. You know. Well, the difference isn’t me. It’s cobbled together over the years. The cards are stacked against me, we know that. Especially now that Harris may never Say that I wasn’t the one on the loading dock that night? Yes, but there’s another way to look at it. He can’t say it was you, either.

My God, do you really think that I would bring my infant daughter to visit a man who I thought had just tried to commit murder? Of course not. Well, actually I’m obsessed. While the family was here checking out the damage, we found a time capsule. Little Thomas was playing in the fireplace with the poker and it just fell out. Time capsule? Yeah. Put together by my grandparents in 1966. Wow. Amazing. Have you opened it? No. That’s the problem. What do you mean?

Did you take it to a locksmith? Of course. He was no help at all. He couldn’t figure out how to open it without forcing it, which might break it and then ruin whatever is inside. You see, my grandfather, Thomas Horton, loved puzzles. And this is not the first time he challenged the family with something like this.

So I want to open it the way my grandfather intended. I get that. But what are you actually doing here? I thought if I looked around quietly by myself, checking everything, I might find a clue or some secret little key that would help me open the darn thing. You want some help? I wonder what mom wanted to talk to Marlena about.

Do you know why she wanted to see her? No, I don’t, I don’t. I’m guessing that she is Worried sick, and she’s hoping that Marlena can offer some, some comfort. You say you like Horton family stories, I’ll tell you a Horton family story. My uncle Tommy, who was my mother’s twin, went off to serve in the Korean War. Did not come home. We all assumed he was dead. Years later He appears in Salem, in the company of my Uncle Bill, and neither one of them knew that they were brothers.

This is what happened. While he was overseas, Uncle Tommy developed amnesia. He was captured, and his face was disfigured when he was a prisoner of war. Somewhere along the way he got plastic surgery after that. Looked completely different. Not to mention he had another name. Dr. Mark Brooks. Wow. But, and, how did he figure out who he really was?

Oh, um, my grandfather, Dr. Tom, and my uncle, Mickey, started an investigation. Precipitated by my grandmother, Alice, standing behind that sofa. And noticing a little tiny birthmark on the back of Tommy’s neck. Are you serious? Very interesting. Yeah, interesting. Heartwarming, in the end. Well, I hope when you find out your story you don’t discover that you and Stephanie are related and then she has to run off to a nunnery.
