Yeah, that metallosis diagnosis is kind of crazy, but I have to admit, I don’t know a whole lot about that condition. There’s a discrepancy in the med storage area. Which is? Simply put, the inventory doesn’t match. It’s short.

This is the first I’m hearing about a discrepancy. Oh, yeah, I see what you’re talking about. Is this something we need to worry about? Um, not yet. It could be a mistake. Sometimes the pharmacy inventory doesn’t update in real time, so that could be the issue. Okay, well, that’s good to know. So to access any company file, each of you will need a new code from maxie every day, while maxie herself will be getting a new code every morning. Wow. Sounds super secure. Sounds super annoying. Well, this much security does require extra steps, but it should prevent intrusion to the company’s patented and proprietary holdings, such as the one that threatened the rights to the deceptor not long ago. Oh, do you mean the one that was created via intellectual property theft? Grandmother. What? It’s what we’re all thinking.

[ Cellphone ringing ] Oh, it’s the rep for belle peau. I have to take this. Excuse me. Well, as I was saying… hi. How’s the photo shoot going? It’s canceled? What do you mean? That’s ridiculous. As you can see, I’m extremely busy. I see you staring at a computer screen, but I don’t see you actually doing anything. ‘Cause I can’t log on, and it is taking forever to get here. Allow me. Why? Because I want you to finish whatever it is that you’re doing so you can focus. And how do you think you’re going to log me on, drew? Telepathically? You don’t work here. You know nothing about

the invader’s system. Yeah, well, you’re sitting at alexis’ desk. I would suggest using her password. No, we’re not… we are not contacting alexis, okay? We don’t e xactly see eye to eye on this new writer that I hired, and I’m trying to post his column before she gets here to derail it. Yeah, well, lucky for you, her password’s on a little sticky note right there, so you might want to try that. Well, I’m eventually going to have to talk to her about that potential security risk after I use it this one time.

And besides, there aren’t many of us webbers left, right? Maybe we should stick together. It’s nice to think that you remember me the way I was. Glad somebody can. What happened? I don’t have long. I’m on my break. The meds I took to treat jason have been flagged in the system as missing. Thank god I didn’t take painkillers, or the police would have already been called. But elizabeth will have to look into it. Is there anything that’ll lead back to you? No, but elizabeth is in charge, so she’s going to have to answer for the discrepancy. Is there any chance they’ll think that maybe it’s a computer glitch or a paperwork error? No, no. Everything that goes out of that pharmacy is scanned electronically. This was not. And I’m glad that jason is getting better, but I can’t see a way out of this situation for us or for him. Yeah, it’s hard to come up with a plan when we’re still in the dark on so much. Belle peau is one of the biggest fashion magazines in the world. Sasha being on the cover would have meant huge exposure for deception. What do you want to bet lucy messed this up somehow? Okay, you know what? It’s not a big deal. You know how fashion people can be. They run hot, they run cold. They probably just wanted to regroup and find a new direction for the photo shoot. So, spinelli, what other systems are we upgrading? Yeah, I’m very glad you asked. I installed the strongest antivirus software available. Wow. The gang is all here. Lucy, what did you do to get the photo shoot canceled? I beg your pardon? Well, we know it was called off, and we also know that you were there, so it must be your fault. It was not lucy’s fault. I don’t know what happened, actually. The shoot just felt off from the start. The belle peau creative director clearly wasn’t happy, but he couldn’t articulate to me why. And the photographer just seemed annoyed that he wasn’t getting the shot. I mean, I feel like I did everything I was asked to do, and still it wasn’t working. I don’t get it. What happened, lucy? Simple problem. Easily fixed. Sasha is just too wholesome.

Just tell me, lucy, what is “too wholesome”? Okay, don’t — don’t take this the wrong way, okay? Okay. Okay, um, it’s just, your photographs are — are too a-approachable, too radiant. They’re just too darn nice. Lucy, what — what are you doing? Sasha, don’t listen to her. You are beautiful. Any woman would kill to look like you. It’s okay, guys. Let — let lucy talk. I mean, this isn’t very nice or polite to say, but we need exposure. We need sasha on those covers of those magazines, and we need that kind of exposure now more than ever, okay? So think about it. You are the face of deception. Beautiful, yes, but we need mystery, unknowability. We need edginess. Do you think you can do that for us? Oh, so relatively small amount. Expensive drugs. No street value. Only known to medical professionals. Okay, I’m going to pull the records of everybody who logged in and out of the pharmacy storage over the past few days, and I will get back to you. Okay, thanks. I can’t let elizabeth take the fall for the meds I stole. I-I don’t know. I don’t know. Okay? I’m — I’m trying to figure this out, just like you. Look, willow, what I do know, though, is that I was sent to prison when I was 17 years old, okay? I was just a kid, and I was — and I was beaten so badly, and I — you know what happened to me. I couldn’t protect myself. I couldn’t stop the hell that I was in, so jason sent himself to prison to protect me. He saved my life. I mean, I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for him, willow. So — so whatever he needs from me now, however I can help him, I’m going to do it. And, willow, please, I’m — I’m asking you to stand with me and help him, too. I thought you could use some caffeine and sugar. Should I have you taste them first? 10 people saw me buy these, so if I was going to poison you, I’d be a lot more discreet. Yeah. So you’ve had some time to think about my question. I have, and I could lie to save my pride, but what’s the point? Do I miss crimson? Ah. She’s my baby, so, yes, I miss her. And I have to say, being editor in chief of crimson did not prepare me for the newspaper business.

The invader is like a jigsaw puzzle with the pieces constantly moving. It’s the peter principle playing out in action. You’ve advanced to your level of incompetence. Oh, please. Can you just spare me your psychoanalysis of my abilities? It’s very simple. You were successful enough at crimson, and you’re flailing at this job because subverting the truth about beauty and fashion, that’s practically why magazines like crimson exist, but when you lie in a newspaper, that’s not good. You’re going to get caught. I see what’s happening here. You’re framing this as if it’s me who’s not able to do her job, but I think it’s the opposite. What, is carly failing at running crimson? I pushed carly into taking that job. She was never the right fit. And you expect me to believe that, at some point during your pillow talk, that carly suggested giving crimson back to me? You know, I know I have a youthful glow, but I wasn’t born yesterday. Carly and crimson have parted ways. I, uh… I fired her.

[ Gasps ] That can’t have gone over well. I mean, she was so happy to watch me get fired. I mean, she was almost giddy when she was able to tell me that she was my replacement. Yeah, after everything that you did to carly, can you blame her, really, for being so happy about that? I mean, carly never wanted that job at crimson, anyway, nina. Okay, so here you are. You guys are both so united in trying to humiliate me, but you’re alone, asking me if I miss crimson.

You cannot hire her for her look and then ask her to change into someone she’s not. Thank you. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with sasha. She radiates warmth. Her smile could light up a city block. Well, I’m not sure. Perhaps in my wild, misspent youth. Why? You almost done? No. Not quite. Not even close. I mean, you had your moment of victory. Now I’m really going to enjoy mine. Mm. There really is nothing uglier than expressing joy at somebody else’s misfortune. I completely agree. I’ve had extensive experience with that, usually as the target, so this is a nice change. Okay, let me guess. Carly ditched you 30 seconds after jason reappeared. No, it wasn’t like that. After you went to prison for her and everything. Carly is not the one that sent me to pentonville. You were. Okay, what do you want, drew? Obviously, you’re still angry with me. I mean, are you really going to give me crimson back? Maybe. Haven’t decided whether I’m going to let it die or whether I’ll give it another chance for success. Magazine is costing me a lot of money right now, which you and I both know I can afford, but I really don’t like my name being associated with failure. Well, if you want to attach carly’s name to that failure instead, I’m good with that. Doesn’t matter how good a doctor is. With surgery, there are always risks. And I’ve — I’ve just been wondering what would happen if I didn’t wake up. Do you ever think about death, laura? Oh, yeah, of course I do. And? Well, after the last few years that I’ve had where I lost luke and I lost bobbie and then spencer, those are people that I never thought I’d have to live without. I know how that feels. I mean, I know that you probably hated esme, but I miss my baby girl, too. I know. I know. And I didn’t hate esme. She was ace’s mother. I treated her like part of the family. Thank you. I hated some of the things she did. I really hate the last thing she did. I get it. I get it. You know, I never — I never used to care about dying. I just thought, well, hey, you know, the world was fine before I was born, so why wouldn’t a world without me just be fine, too? But I can’t stop wondering now if I just made better choices, maybe I-I could have a better life. Laura, you knew me back in the day. Was I always this… wild? You always took a lot of risks, okay? You were never happy with the status quo. And, boy, you always went after whatever you wanted, whether it was men or money or… I don’t think I would have gone about things quite the same way you did. But, laura, was I…this…crazy? No. Hello. Hello.

Yeah, I’ve just been so busy hating heather and — and being afraid of heather that I lost sight of how really sick she is. Or — or maybe was. I mean, what if she wakes up after the surgery, and she’s different? Change is possible, but, in the case of mental illness, even with cobalt poisoning, it’s unrealistic to think it might reverse itself overnight. No, but I mean, in time, she could heal, right, and get back to — well, get close to the person that she used to be. Think of it like this. The cobalt has been poisoning her physically and mentally for a long time, so heather’s skewed way of thinking is now imprinted on her brain. It’s like a bad habit, and we both know that any habit is hard to break even in the best circumstances. Which these are not. No. Then again, I’m not a neurologist, and I’ve never studied the effect of toxic metals on the brain, so anything’s possible. I just can’t help but have some empathy for her, you know? I mean, I’ve had my own issues with mental health, but, you know, I had people around me who loved me and who made sure that I got the help I needed and that I was okay. What if heather had had the same thing? Would they have noticed the cobalt poisoning earlier? And how much did that influence the crazy things that she did? I mean, what if heather is not really responsible — I mean, not in — in the most humane definition of that word for these crimes that she committed? There she is. That’s the nina that we all know and love. When presented with the option to get something that you actually want, or punishing somebody that you hate, I mean, you choose revenge every time. But you’re the one who brought it up. There’s no scenario here where I make carly the fall guy, okay, if crimson goes under. So you can just kind of stop fantasizing about that, nina. Fine, fine. You have your pride. I mean, what would it look like if people knew that you not only lost your heart, but you lost your magazine because you were so blinded by love, you couldn’t see the truth about carly spencer? There’s two things that I feel for you that I could never feel for carly, and those are rage and contempt. Yes, I’ve become familiar with you directing both of those things in my direction lately. But… ooh, there’s a “but” here. …I got to admit, there’s a couple things that you’re pretty good at, too. One of them is crimes of the heart and the other is running crimson. Now, seems to me that you being reinstated as the editor in chief of crimson again, that could be your ticket to people admiring you and giving you respect. Don’t you want that back?

[ Laptop beeps ] Almost there. You want to replace me as the face of deception? No. No, no, no, no. Not replaced, not ever. Just include a-another face. Think of it as addition, not subtraction. This is ridiculous, okay? If you’re suggesting, uh, changing sasha’s position at deception because she’s somehow too approachable and wholesome, this isn’t the kind of company that I want to be involved with, okay? So I’d rather spend the rest of my life picking up after horses than spend another second working for you. You don’t have to fire me, I quit. Okay, hey, you know what? That was so beautiful. Uh, let’s just give him some time to cool off, and then we will have a rational conversation and smooth this over. No, no, I-I know cody pretty well at this point, and I can tell that he’s made up his mind. Oh, god. He won’t come back. Okay. Okay, then, you know, if he wants to quit a great, easy job, then that’s his problem. I am just being honest, okay? This — this whole beauty business is tough. It’s brutal, and we all know that. Come on. Sasha, I hope — I hope you’re not as upset because your perfect gorgeousness has never been in question. No, no, lucy, I’m not offended. This is not my first rodeo. I’ve heard worse. you are not mad. I’m not. I promise. But hearing cody talk about modeling and how he perceives it has really made me think. I mean, he obviously finds it tiresome and pointless, and hearing his words made me realize that I feel the same way. Maybe it’s time that I quit, too.

[ Exhales sharply ] What? No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Sasha, please. Don’t make any rash decisions, okay? Look at what you’ve done. Yes, terry, I can see that all the meds have been accounted for, so can you please call off the bloodhounds? Thank you. I understand there was some discrepancy that the hospital board was supposed to be made aware of? Everything is fine. Um, that message should have never gotten to you until we knew there was an actual problem. But I do have to tell you, our — our reliance on it security has its drawbacks. The computers are so slow to update. It created an alert that suggested there was a theft in the pharmacy storage. If you want to see, everything has been accounted for now. I apologize you got brought down here for nothing. It’s — well, the timing was perfect. You actually rescued me from something that was even more tedious and more pointless. Thanks. Given the number and gravity of her crimes, I can’t see her convictions being overturned. Yeah, I know. You’re probably right. But still, to have a prosthetic implant that’s poisoning you, that’s got to carry some weight in court. It seems reasonable to me, but we have to remember that reason and the law don’t always see eye to eye. Yeah. Why is this weighing on you so much? I thought you’d be happy that heather’s finally paying for what she did. I thought so, too, but I — I’ve known her most of my life, and she just wasn’t this crazy before, kevin. She wasn’T. And I think I’ve also realized that I — I really haven’t been very sympathetic towards her and all the things that she has been through in her life. Life really hasn’t treated her well. Well, it hasn’t exactly been easy for you, either, but you didn’t turn to a life of crime.

[ Exhales sharply ] “There but for the grace of god go I.” Mm. Yeah. I don’t know, maybe it’s the pain of losing spencer is so fresh, and then watching her go through the pain of losing esme. And then I think about little ace and how wonderful it would be for him to grow up without his other grandma being in prison for a string of murders she committed. You really have a heart of gold.

[ Both chuckle ] Even with everything that heather has done, you still manage to find compassion for her. I love you for that. I love you, too. You should be nice to him. Let me tell you, the nerve of some people. Not even people — cops. I mean, not all cops, but… chase? What’s wrong? I’m sorry, what? Wow, I just barged in here like a tsunami. You didn’t even notice. What’s going on? How bad is it? I saw dante today. A few times, actually. How’s he doing? No change. Hi. I’m sorry, I’m sorry. No, cookie, no worries. I had my phone. Time means nothing. Oh, how understanding are you? I am drowning in cases. I know the feeling. I’m sure it’s the one thing about the law you don’t miss. I think I was just so nervous coming in here and everything that I wanted to say to kristina, and of course it didn’t — didn’t even occur to me that her father might be witness to it. I think you’re brave to even show up and, you know, be here just to say that to her. Well, I love my daughter, and I want to support her, and it’s just complicated, you know? Parenting is so complicated.

[ Laughs ] I can relate. By all means. I’ll bite. Why do you owe me a drink? You were right. I’ve been wrong so much lately, I’d be glad to know when I wasn’T. About sonny. That I was taking it easy on him, not seeing him clearly. And now? Now I do.

I should have gone with him. I mean, there were two suspects, and dante went after both of them. I-I never should have let him go. But you followed procedure on dante’s orders. It was all by the book, right? Yes, it was by the book, but that doesn’t change that dante could die or be in a permanent coma. You don’t know what could have happened if you went after him. You could be in that hospital instead, or with him, or you might both be in the ground. Yo u’re right, you’re right, but I — no more buts, okay? You are here with me right now, and dante is in the hospital but he is still breathing. His heart is still beating. And I — did your duty. You followed orders and — and procedures. You did your job. A job that we both fought for you to get back. I don’t know. Maybe… maybe I shouldn’T. Shouldn’t what? Be a cop anymore. Dante is awesome. He used to live in the house where I live now, and he’s cody’s best friend, and now he’s in the hospital. And that’s why cody’s so sad. And that’s why I’m here — to cheer him up. Wow. I have two things to say to that. One is, I think it’s admirable that you’re showing up for cody like that. And it means you’re a really good friend. Thank you. As for your… friend dante, I actually went to see him in the hospital today. Really? I guess I didn’t realize you two were that close. That’s — that’s mighty generous of you. Is dante better?

[ Knocks ] You rang? Valentin. Thank you for coming. Where’s alexis? I assumed she’d be here. Oh, why would alexis be here, in her office, at her job? Oh. Well, it is kind of late. Well, the news doesn’t stop, valentin. I asked her to meet us here, and she blew me off. Said she was “otherwise engaged.” Well, if you need a cassadine so badly, I’m here. What’s the problem? Alexis is trying to force my gossip columnist to quit. Diane is setting things in motion for me to petition to get my law license back. Is she? How? Well, she’s a legal bloodhound, and she found a loophole. One that you hadn’t noticed before. Actually, I don’t think I was really looking before. Um, I lied, and I got caught, and I took my lumps and… well, honestly, I wasn’t in a very good emotional place. On a number of counts, as I recall. Isn’ t it nice that we can beso accurate with each other? So diane found a number of factors that she thinks will play out in my favor. Such as? One, I never filed an appeal. Okay, but don’t you only have 90 days to do that? I never had a hearing, which means that I never had the opportunity to defend myself. What would your defense have been? Well, britt westbourne and julian were my accusers. So, what defense would you recommend? Given their collective criminal records and personal integrity issues… diane thinks that those factors, along with the fact that my alleged perjury happenedt a proceeding before the medical board… that’s enough to get you an appeal? It’s a hail mary at best. Yeah, a bit. Diane filed a petition with the court of appeals that hopefully will allow her to file another petition with the court of appeals which will lead to an appeal. Wow.

[ Chuckles ] Mm… wow. Um, do you have anything else to say besides, “wow”? Don’t do it. To clear heads and open eyes. I’m going to go with the second thing. Fair enough.

[ Inhales sharply, exhales ] So now that we’ve belted one back, care to share? I owe you an apology. An apology and a drink. This is a banner day. I called you out on your attitude towards sonny, implying that you were being unprofessional and making everything personal. Well, to be fair enough, the guy does really get under my skin. When it comes to sonny, I haven’t always stayed professional. I’m not exactly a model of that myself. How so? Oh, “how so?” Really? I’ve only seen sonny the way I wanted to see him. You know, I’ve made excuses for him, rationalized his unacceptable behavior. You mean the crimes. Besides murder, racketeering, and lifetime of felonies, he’s kind of a model citizen. Hmm. And such a good father. Yeah. Anyway, I’m done convincing myself that he is greater than the sum of his parts. I see sonny very clearly now. I know exactly who he is. Your daughter is very talented. I know. Thank you. I’ve seen her perform a few times. It’s not my kind of music, but I-I can see she connects with the audience. She’s — she’s always been like that. The kid is just fearless, like, onstage and off. Um, you know, I think — I think our girls have that in common. Fearlessness. Well, kristina can be a steamroller when she wants to be.

[ Laughs ] And they’re both — they’re both dreamers. Absolutely true. Dangerous combination. Yes, yes. Being a dreamer and being fearless. In the best possible way. I know what you mean. Alison was like a little star in the making from the minute she stepped onstage. But she didn’t have a head for business, so, um, I decided to jump in and be her business manager. And that way I could watch after her accounts and I could watch after her. Smart move. Um, I didn’t do a very — a very good job, though. Um, I had my nose so deep in her books and her accounts that I-I did not see that that monster linc brown was doing to my baby girl. Thanks to brook lynn, we don’t have to worry about him. Do you know brook lynn quartermaine? Yeah. Her mother is my best friend. Again, she shouldn’t have been the one to protect my daughter. I should have been paying closer attention. And then I would have known something was going on, and I should have been the one to protect her. You can’t act on information you don’t have. Well, I could have sensed it and done something to stop it. Is that why you’re controlling blaze now?

I thought you, of all people, would be leading the charge to support me. Mom, you know that I think you are a brilliant attorney. Well, I know you used to think that. I’m just not sure you think that right now. Look, I grew up wanting to be you. I mean, when I was in law school — even now today, in fact, I still study your briefs. When I don’t know what to do with a case. I look to see how you did it. And then I follow your lead. And if this were just about the law or your career, I would say go for it. I would say there’s nobody more deserving than you. Then why are you opposing my trying? Because I like you better sober than when you’re drinking. I landed adrian dewitt. Do you know what a huge get that is? I can see. But, alexis, she never wanted a gossip column in the first place — too lowbrow, which makes no sense. How can a society page detailing the lies of the city’s economic and cultural elite be lowbrow? That is a paradox. It is a proven fact that gossip columns increase circulation. And in a journal that prioritizes negative things every single day, the average reader finds joy and release knowing the rich and famous are suffering too. Never underestimate the schadenfreude of the american people. Mm-hmm, and that’s precisely what alexis is doing. She sabotaged the column by postponing it until friday. Ah, and after two days, even salacious news is old news. You get it. I do. Oh, and — and this. She published — she published an extremely biased article slamming sonny after the shooting. Were there two articles? No. Just one. Why? Because I’m of the opinion that alexis and the invader went too easy on sonny. Now I see where kristina gets her directness. And you haven’t even met her mother yet.

[ Chuckles ] You know… kristina and I, we get along great now, but it wasn’t always like that. When she was a teenager, she was going through some real heavy stuff that I don’t want to get too specific on, but it was bad. Her mother and I, we were way overprotective. And — oh, I see. So instead of being protective, you ended up trying to control her. You can guess what happened. She rebelled. She lashed out. The more we tried to rein her in, the more she spiraled out of control. That had to have been terrifying. So it was clear to me, I have to stop trying to make the decisions for her and just help her stand up so she can make the decisions for herself. What inspired this change of heart? Yeah, well, it’s nothing I can prove. Of course. So what else is new? Let’s just say my eyes have been forced open about sonny and who he really is. I guess who he’s always been. And the level of violence he’s capable of. Well, that’s great. What took you so long? Seriously, why the blind spot for sonny? You know. You said it the other night. Sonny was there for my daughter when stone was dying. And I was nowhere to be found.

[ Chuckles ] Why? Do they think of you as a peer? Well, god help them if they think of me as a role model. So how did this happen? Uh, james was here for his riding lessons. You give riding lessons? Yes. On our horses? Um, I cleared it with monica. Monica owns the stable. The horses — don’t worry. N-no one’s riding your thoroughbred. His hoof’s looking better, by the way, right? Yes, much. Thank you. Um, anyways, uh, about james, yeah, so he was here, uh, for his lesson, and I was calling the hospital to check up on dante. He overheard me, and I don’t know, I must have sounded… concerned? Yeah. Anyway, since then he’s been here pretty much every day, you know, helping me out, just talking. And no one told him to do it. He just kind of decided. James: Help! Okay, here’s what we’re gonna do. First, we are going to keep praying for dante. That’s all I’ve been doing. Me too. And we’re gonna keep doing it, okay? As for whether or not you should be a cop again, well, that’s easy. It is? Yeah. You should quit the force and revive your singing career. What? Think about it. Instant love from the stage. Men wishing they were you. Women longing to be with you even though they can’t be. We’ll pick up right where we left off. We will build your triumphant return to the stage. I’ll even let you pick out what you’re going to wear. Pending approval, of course. What do you say? I know what you’re doing. I don’t know what you’re talking about. Yes, you do. Okay, I do. Is it working? I don’t want to be a singer. I want to be what I am, what I’m supposed to be. A cop. And a damn good one. So I’m going to bring up something that might be painful for you. Well, I’m not feeling much pain at the moment. It’s stone. My brother’s always with me. Speak freely. When he was dying and robin had been diagnosed with hiv, I was nowhere to be found. My teenage daughter is losing the first great love of her life and…may be facing a death sentence of her own, which is what it could be back then. And I was out — I was in the wind, you know? But sonny was there. Sonny was there for her every day by her side. And robin loved him for it.She still does. You know, I hate to admit it. And I’ll never understand it, not fully. But in stone’s eyes, sonny was more a brother to him than I was. Which is one of the many reasons why I hate him. Sorry, I’m making this about me. You were saying? It’s okay. No, it’s just that I, um, allowed myself, my own perception of sonny, to be colored by robin’S. And by gratitude and all that guilt. So for years, I-I just — I convinced myself that he was a better man than he really is. I-I never looked the other way, though. I never colluded on any of those crimes. Oh, no, I know that. But I have relied on him. I’ve relied on sonny sometimes. And given him the benefit of the doubt. But no more. No. You keeping track? Oh. Oh, yeah, yeah. We’re — we’re tied. Yeah, well, the difference is, is I’m already home. So am I. I’m just two floors up. Every cell of me wants to guide and protect my daughter from getting hurt, but now she feels like I’m the one who’s hurting her. And she’s not wrong. You know, I think there’s nothing — there’s nothing more important than making sure that our kids know that we love them no matter who they are or what choices they make. And it’s up to us to make that clear. Especially while they can still hear us. Sorry that took so long. No worries. Your dad and I were just getting to know each other. Well, I’m glad you guys could keep each other company. I have a minute now, so, uh, is there anything else you wanted to talk about? The last time you fell off the wagon was when you were disbarred. I wasn’t sure we were gonna get you back. And you think, if this doesn’t work out, then I’m gonna start drinking again. Your chances of getting this disbarment overturned, I mean, it’s the longest of long shots. I know that. Then why put yourself through it?

You know what? I think it’s great. Which bit? All of it. You seeing saint sonny for the slimebag he is. In fact, I hope you nail him. Surely you want that honor for yourself, don’t you? I give you my solemn promise that if I find any evidence on him, I will pass it along to you. Because my job, little as I like it, is to protect the son of a bitch.

[ Laughs ] Well, I think everyone is entitled to be protected under the law. Some people are more worthy than others. But sonny clearly is a target, and for whatever reason, his life seems to be important enough that somebody has tried to end it several times. And I need to find out why. Even if he gets to benefit by breathing a little longer. Well, you’re a better copthan I am, agent cates. Not today, commissioner devane. Not today. Sonny knows that I am publisher of the invader. He might think that I had something to do with this article. Nina, sonny doesn’t blinkat federal indictments. What makes you think he’s gonna care about a bad review? That’s not the point. The point is, he may jump to the conclusion that I’m trying to use the newspaper to lash out at him. You want to reconcile with him, right? And he knows that. Well, yes, but after this article — if this article is what’s gonna keep that from happening, maybe your marriage isn’t worth fighting for in the first place. You’ve nev er beenfond of sonny. If sonny wants you back or not, that article is not gonna make a bit of difference. Oh, it makes all the difference. How? It’s just… I… I can’T…control what’s going on with this divorce. I thought I could at least control the newspaper. It turns out I can’t control either. Here’s what I want to know. You are a magnificent, brilliant, resilient woman. Why on earth do you continue to torture yourself with sonny? You’re right. There is next to no chance that this will come to anything other than a bitter, bitter disappointment. And I need to prepare for that. Why? Why brace for impact from an oncoming train when you can just step off the tracks? Because when diane came to me with this strategy, I felt a rush. Um, like I had been zapped with a defibrillator and my heart was beating again after it had flatlined for a really long time. And I realized that this part of me, this huge part — the core part of me — I left for dead. Mom… and now I had hope that maybe I could get this essential part of me back. Okay, what if that hope flatlines again? Then I let it go. Oh. That easy? Probably not. But, moll, if there’s a chance that I could go back and do what I love to do the most, the thing that makes me me and that gives me the challenges that I need, and… I could be a role model again? You’re a great role model, mom. I was. And maybe I could be that again. I mean, if — if there is just the smallest, tiniest, most infinitesimal chance that I could be that again, I have to try. You are the best kind of cop, one who actually tries to find the truth instead of just pinning whatever on whoever. You actually try to see justice done. Thank you. In fact, you know, I was thinking about following rules and procedures, and — and I know you felt bad about that. Yeah, I still do. Well, you shouldn’T. You are an officer of the law. And there’s a reason why procedures exist. It’s to protect us, to protect people. Well, that’s the idea, yeah. When some people who are meant to uphold the law fly in the face of procedure to mess with and manipulate people to try to squeeze them for information… are you talking about anyone specific? Special agent cates. He barged past yuri to interrogate danny, who was by himself, no adult present. That is not okay. Damn right it’s not. That just doesn’t seem like agent cates.

It was heavier than I thought, and now I wrecked the horse’s dinner. Hey, hey, bud. No, you didn’T. Horses don’t mind eating oats that have spilled on the floor. They eat dirt and grass. Cates is a snake and a jerk, and I should make good on every one of my threats. Wait. You threatened an fbi agent? Damn right I did. Like, with bodily harm? No! I-I just told him he should be ashamed of interrogating a child without a parent present. Okay. And that I would sue him into oblivion. And take his badge. Oh. Because threatening a federal agent is kind of a federal crime. I came here to mend fences with you, kristina, and — and to enlist your help with alison. But I realize now that that’s — that’s not something I can ask of you. That’s something that we have to work out on our own. But, um, I’m just — I’m really appreciative that you would even take the time to talk with me. Yeah. Mr. Corinthos. Such a pleasure. So that just happened. How you doing? I don’t know. I’m not really sure. I mean, my first impulse is to text allie, obviously, and tell her what just happened. But then, is that really fair to them? I don’t know, I mean, shouldn’t it be between them whether or not they work things out? But then how could I pretend that it’s not about me and that I’m not involved, right? You can’T.

Alright. Do we get all of it? Let me check. Mission accomplished. Nice. May I? It’s called a high five. Do you want me to show you how to do it?

[ Laughs ] No, I know how to do a high five. I just haven’t done one in a while. Well, turns out you are a good boss. Thank you. Does your grandpa mac have any other pearls of wisdom? “To have a friend, you’ve got to be a friend.” That’s a good one. So I am the boss and you are the guest. How about I invite you up to the house for some hot chocolate? Cody too? Yes, of course. Come on. Give me the brush. Is threatening a federal agent a federal crime? Well… so what? Okay? There was no way I was gonna let that jerk intimidate danny. Nor should you. I am 100% on your side. You sure about that? I am. But in the future, instead of threatening to sue or take his badge or anything else you may have said… there were no witnesses. …Perhaps you kindly remind the overeager law enforcement officer that he can’t question a minor without a parent present. And an attorney. If that’s necessary. An army of attorneys. Would protect the rights of the minor without ganging up on a federal agent, right? Fine. I’ll show mercy. That is all I ask. Kind of wish I saw you lay into him a little bit. Me too. Could have been my witness. I love it when you’re all hot and fired up. If that is how you feel about it, then…okay. Okay as in “I’ve said everything I can possibly say and now I’m washing my hands of it” okay? I will fully support you. I’ll have your back every step of the way. I’ll be there for you. And what if it goes belly-up? Well, what if, against all odds, it actually happens? Stranger things have. No. No, they have. But please, please monitor yourself. Okay? Take inventory. Go to meetings. I’ve been doing that all along, and I have no intention of stopping. That’s now. But I’m talking about during the waiting and the decision, okay? You’re going to get frustrated. You’re going to want to skip a meeting every now and again. You might even want to say screw this altogether. But please, please, promise me that you will not, okay, that you’ll stay the course. I promise. And one more thing. If this doesn’t go your way, if the worst thing happens and you don’t get your license back, just please promise me you won’t drink. That’s a promise I can’t make.

[ Exhales sharply ] But I promise to do everything in my power, including calling upon a higher power if I need to, to prevent that from happening, alright? I know. I understand that no recovery is guaranteed. I know that — that there are backslides, and that no promise I ask you to make is gonna keep you from drinking, but… it’s got to be your choice, yeah. Yeah. It’s so selfish. You are not selfish. In fact, be selfish because we’re all really sick and tired of your altruism. With kristina pregnant with our baby, I just — I just really need my mom right now. Never mind the fact that in order for you to fall in love with sonny, he had to literally forget who he was. But he makes you bend over backwards to prove your worth to him. And you bend, nina, and I hate it. It breaks my heart to see you do that. Especially when he’s such a hypocrite. Anyone wrongs him, he just writes them off. He’s not complicated. He’s just erratic. Sonny is not worthy of you. Are you finished? I wish. Okay, okay. When I heard that you and sonny had broken up, that he was looking for a divorce, I could finally breathe. I was that relieved. Why? So I could go back to you? That is lovely. But no. Because I’m not worthy of you either. I was relieved because you could finally forget having to be sonny’s wife, and maybe you could remember who you really are. And who do you think that is? Well, you’re nina reeves. And nina reeves is a marvel, a survivor, a rule breaker. Crimson, your life, everything that you are, you have spun into gold. And it is my greatest hope for you that you remember that. If I text allie and tell her that her mom was here, then I feel like that automatically implies that it’s me and allie against her mom, and I don’t necessarily want that. I think that’s wise. Right? Then if I don’t tell her, I don’t really want to be keeping a secret from her. Also wise. I think what I should do is wait until I see her. And if allie brings it up, then great. And if she doesn’t, then I’ll tell her what happened tonight. I’m curious. What’s your take on natalia? I mean, I definitely did not win her over initially, but I give her credit for reaching out. So do I. I give you a lot more credit. Me? What do you mean, me? Because I told allie how afraid I was to come out to you and how when I did you were like, “what? You think I don’t know gay people? I know gay people.” I would have given anything to see the expression on my own face when you did that, it was like it was no big deal. You know, even looking back, the fact that you didn’t know that I would accept that… it kind of hurts a little bit, even now. Why? Dad, you have always been the only one that I could really turn to. And I will always be. I know. The day I questioned daniel morgan without a parent or guardian present. Oh. That’s not good. Yeah. Luckily, somebody stopped me. This woman just swooped in like she was on fire and lit into me, telling me how ashamed I should be, and all of a sudden I was. Oh, my god. You met tracy quartermaine. Does tracy quartermaine have a brooklyn accent? Oh, no, you met brook lynn.

[ Laughs ] “Brooklyn”? Yes.

[ Laughs ] Her name is — is actually “brooklyn”? Well, anyway, I got to thank her because she forced me to realize I’d crossed the line. Well, at least you realized your mistake. You know, some people cross the line, and they just double down and floor it. Yeah, even so. I was disappointed I went there in the first place. Today was not my finest day as a cop. Yeah. Wasn’t mine either. Here’s to being better tomorrow.

Josslyn. What’s wrong? Oh, god. Is it dante? No. Oh. W– it’s dex. He’s not shot or anything. Oh, god. Okay. Hey, what do you need?

[ Voice breaking] I just need my mom. Oh, come here. You got me. You got me. You’re the one person who truly loves me who doesn’t hide parts of themselves from me. Baby, come on. What’s going on? What happened? Dax and I broke up. For good this time.

[ Sniffles ] Oh, come here.

[ Telephone rings ] Yeah. Uh, what? He’s here now. Me specifically? Oh, yeah. By all means, send him in. Thank you.

[ Knock on door ] Come in. Sonny: Hey, sweetheart. Thank you. The coffee at the hospital will kill you. What? You’ve been with dante all morning? Why didn’t you tell me, dad? I would have switched shifts and come to keep you company. Ava was with me. Oh. Good. Okay. So… no changes. Dante’s still on life support. And there’s no sign that he’s going to wake up.

[ Inhales deeply ]

[ Exhales sharply ] I got you, I got you. Unless you need me, I’m probably going to head out in a few minutes. Um, no, I think we’re good.

[ Elevator bell dings ] Oh. How many times does this make? This is chase’s fourth check on dante today, and he’ll be back later if he takes a dinner break. And if not, he’ll sneak in just before lights out. I wish there was something new we could tell him, tell all of them. Dante hasn’t been alone since he was admitted. His friends and family have been here around the clock. Really says a lot about how much he means to people. Yeah. Sure does. Yeah. Here’s this. Thanks. It’s been hard on everyone at the pcpd. Detective falconeri has a lot of fans down there. You need blood, the entire squadron would be here in half an hour. In fact, you can have mine now. Well, that’s good to know. Thank you. Um, question — who are you? Oh, sorry. John cates, fbi. I’m here investigating the shooting in port charles, and I overheard you talking about detective falconeri. Yes, well, you overheard correctly. Detective falconeri is stable, but he’s still unconscious. Oh, great. I’ll pass that on at the station. Uh, before I do, though, I was wondering if we might speak, nurse baldwin, I have a couple of questions. About what? Jason morgan.

You okay? Yeah. I’m good. Thank you. No problem. Your timing was good. I just got home from school. Is anybody gonna be looking for you? No, they’re used to me taking off early. When I was younger, I always used to love coming here because there’s so much room here compared to home. I remember. You — you do? Sure. You were always asking to stay at grandma monica’S. I have patients I have to check on, agent cates. What is it that you need to know? The bureau and the pcpd are still trying to locate jason morgan. See, we believe he’s responsible for shooting dante falconeri at the warehouse and subsequently jumping from a bridge to escape capture. Yes, I’ve seen the news. Of course you have. It’s probably impossible to avoid. But we have yet to locate a body. And I’m sure I don’t have to tell you what kind of damage a jump from that height would do. No, no, you don’T. And so far, you haven’t needed to tell me any of this. Bottom line, you have a child with jason morgan, and I know you two have a history, so I’m sure you can understand if I have to ask you if you’ve heard from jason since the shooting. Well, I haven’T. If you are lying and if you are harboring a fugitive,

you could be facing federal charges. You know, I just — I just thought high school was gonna be different, new campus, new people, but it’s all the same stuff — sitting around trying not to get caught looking at your phone. When I had a phone. Mom took it ’cause I’m grounded. And now school is more boring than ever. I would have hated every part of that. Yeah. Me too. I mean, there’s parts of me that wish dex lied and just denied everything that nina said. Wait a minute. How was nina involved? She was there. She watched it happen. Nina exposed a side of dex that I didn’t even know existed. And as much as I hate her for it, thank god she did. Now I know. And I still don’t understand how I could love him this much. Okay, it sounds really fresh right now. Maybe you’re gonna have to sit with this for a minute. He was the person that I loved and trusted almost more than anybody else, and he is not the person that I thought he was. All dex had to do was look at me, and I felt loved and safe and respected, and it’s all gone. I don’t even have the illusion of him to hold on to anymore. Josslyn, what happened? What did dex do? Dex was going to kill cyrus because sonny ordered him to. Alright, I’m gonna need you to take some time, and you’re gonna have to get some perspective on this, okay? No amount of perspective changes the fact that dex was going to kill him. Mom, this wasn’t war. This wasn’t self-defense. Cyrus was an old man lying in a hospital room. That is premeditated murder. You know what I keep thinking about? Do you remember that year on christmas eve when dante and I took our skis, we went up to the roof

[Laughing] And we took the skis back and forth like we were trying to make tracks, like — like santa’s sleigh for donna and the kids? Wasn’t that the year that dante twisted his ankle playing hockey? Well, kind of. I mean, that was the — that was the cover story we told you. But really… he slid right off carly’s roof and directly into a pine tree. He had so many pine needles in his hair. Dad, it was crazy. It was like there were thousands. And we — we were just trying to get them out. It took us forever because we couldn’t stop laughing so hard. You know, fix up my own car someday, put a turbocharger on it. What about sports? You like any of them? Football. I was gonna go out for the freshman team, but my mom wouldn’t sign the stupid waiver ’cause she thought I was gonna get brain damage. Y-you had brain damage, right? Uh, yeah, n-not from playing football. I was in a car accident.

[ Door opens ] Danny. School’s been out for a while. You should probably get up to the house before they send out a search party to look for you. Thought of that. Said I had a lot of homework. What if someone decides to help you with it and finds out you’re not in your room? I guess you’re right. See you later. Yeah. Thanks again. No problem. What’s wrong? Dex was in an impossible situation. He was working for me and michael. He was working for sonny. And when sonny gave him the order to go after cyrus, dex didn’t have a lot of options. Dex could have gone to you and michael. He could have told you what sonny wanted. He could have done a lot of things. He could have gone to the police. Oh, come on. That’s not a realistic option, and you know it. Look, the choices that dex had to make, they may have been deal-breakers for you, but don’t be naive about why he made them. Okay, maybe he didn’t have a choice, but I had a choice, and I chose to be with him over and over again. And if I didn’t know what I know now, I would still be with him like some lovesick, blind idiot. Okay. Come on. I’m willing to bet that dex shared more with you than he has with anyone ever. I just never even considered that the sweet, amazing guy I love could kill someone while they’re helpless. How did I not see it? This isn’t a court-martial, dex. You can have a seat. So, walk me through this. Start at the beginning. Um… I was initially hired by michael corinthos to infiltrate sonny’s organization and gather information and evidence that could incriminate him. Michael hired you for this, did he? He felt that sonny’S… choices, um, caused unnecessary pain and risk to the family. So I’m assuming this is after the whole nixon falls/nina situation, yeah? Michael eventually reconsidered, but he — he — he decided that sending his father to prison would rip the family apart. So he changed the terms of my employment, and he brought his mother into the circle of trust. They, uh — they wanted me to monitor sonny and to give them any information if he were ever in any trouble. What kind of trouble? A situation that he couldn’t handle, he was in over his head. But other than that, I was, uh, supposed to continue working for sonny and follow his orders like any of his other personnel. Well… so, um, before carly and michael tasked you with being sonny’s guardian angel, did you ever get anything incriminating? I did. I had evidence that sonny was moving illegal arms for a company called pikeman. I know dante is technically not a kid, but he’s always gonna be my kid, and he’s got so much more to give to the world and his family. And he will. I can count on — on one hand all the good people in my life, and dante was one of them. Nobody would argue that. If I could be half as good as dante, I’d be very happy. You know, I’ve been through a lot in my life, and I’ve done a lot of things that I should have paid for. Not dante. I should be laying in that bed, not him. Alright, that’s it. Listen, dad, I know that you are sad and you’re scared, and — and those aren’t comfortable emotions for you. But I-I’m not gonna sit here and listen to you denigrate the dad I adore. Look, I know I wasn’t planned. It doesn’t matter whether you were planned. Your mom and i always wanted you. You know that. You just proved my point for me. You have always made me feel loved, always. I’m your dad. That’s my job. And you make it easy. Do I, though? The older I get, the more I reflect, and I realize that you are my anchor. As flighty as I might be, and we both know that’s true, you always keep me grounded. A-and there’s not a single thing I would change about you, imperfections and all. You are the best dad there is. And dante would be the first one to tell you that.

Okay. How are you feeling? I’m fine. Michael already warned me. You could be on fire and say, “I’m fine.” This is important, though. Okay? You lost a lot of blood. So you need to drink a lot of fluids. If you don’t, you could go into hypovolemic shock, and your organs could stop working. Okay. Got it. All done.

[ Exhales sharply ]

[ Sighs ] I know you don’t want to be in this boathouse, but please, please, please don’t push yourself right now, okay? You will not make yourself stronger. You will just use up reserves that have already been severely depleted. And you will set your recovery way back. Okay. Take one now and one every eight hours for the next seven days. Don’t forget. It’s an antibiotic. Don’t miss a dose. Where’d you — don’t ask. You okay? Fine. You don’t seem like it. Michael would do anything for you, which is absolutely his right. And I’m okay risking myself. But involving danny is the worst thing you could have done. Okay, I didn’t — I didn’t seek danny out. He found me. Well, it won’t matter to that fbi agent cates, who’s turning over every rock in port charles looking for you. What do you think will happen if he gets proof that danny helped you? Elizabeth: Hey, there. I didn’t know you were coming by today. I tried a new chocolate chip cookie recipe I got off tiktok. And you need a taste tester? Yeah. Okay, well, not that I’m complaining, but why didn’t you ask jake? He won’t exactly talk to me. I’m a little worried about him. Why? What happened? You know how anytime our families get together, dante’s always the first one to get something fun going, like find a game to play that includes everyone? And he always makes you laugh but in a nice way. He never makes fun of anybody. Yeah, everyone loves him. Well, jake’s convinced, like 100% convinced, that his dad shot dante. When I tried to tell him we didn’t know for sure that jason did it, he slammed his bedroom door in my face. Mm. I had no idea. He hasn’t said anything to me about it. He’s not going to, either. He said he doesn’t want to talk to you about it. Why not? Doesn’t want you to defend jason. John: Daniel morgan? Yeah. Hi. John cates, fbi. I was hoping I could ask you a few questions about your dad. If you remember, sonny beat cyrus up pretty bad. Severe enough to put him in hospital. And then when the police questioned cyrus, he said sonny was responsible. Yeah, he couldn’t have been happy with that. No, so when cyrus said he would press charges, sonny decided that if cyrus were put down, any potential charges against him would go down, too. That’s a little shortsighted, don’t you think? Because if cyrus had died and his death was related in any way to the beating that sonny had inflicted on him, then he could have been found guilty of manslaughter or maybe even second-degree murder. That’s exactly what I tried to tell him. But sonny didn’t see it that way. He, uh — he ordered me to take out cyrus while he was still in the hospital. And I was prepared to do it. How? I was going to inject his picc line with fentanyl. But sonny showed up at the last second and stopped me. Do you know why he reconsidered? No. Okay, dex. You do understand that if you swear to this, you will incriminate yourself, as well as sonny. I do. But I did it. And I prepared to pay for it. I hope that I never disappoint you the way I disappointed your brothers. No matter what you’ve done or think you’ve done, michael and dante will always love you a lot. And so will I. There’s nothing that you could ever do that would make me truly disappointed in you. If there’s even a part of that that’s true, I’m a lucky man. Kristina?

honey, agent cates seems laser-focusedon finding you. He even tried to intimidate elizabeth baldwin by dangling the threat of federal charges in front of her. Elizabeth hasn’t done anything. But now danny has. Willow, I-I never wanted anybody to find me, let alone danny. I would never put him in jeopardy. I know you wouldn’T. I’m gonna make sure not one of you gets implicated, okay? Not michael, not you, not danny. All of you helping me, I’m just gonna make it like it never happened. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to startle you. Yuri, I think his name is, he let me in. Yeah, yuri. He’s a — he’s a good guy. Yeah, he seems like it. Listen, I don’t want to keep you, but have you, by any chance, seen your father in the last couple days? No. You haven’t heard from him at all? Like no phone calls or texts or e-mails or… no. You’re sure? ‘Cause it’s really important that I find him. Yeah. I’m sure. See, it’s just that he’s been gone a long time, and now all of a sudden, he’s back, and all you get is radio silence? I mean, you’re his son. Don’t you think that’s weird? Not really.

[ Scoffs ] It’s not like I knew the guy before he was gone. Look, I don’t know why he’s back, but I can tell you it’s not because of me. Brook lynn: Danny, go. Somewhere else. I need to have a word with agent cates. You are a disgrace to your badge. No matter what I say or do, jake gets mad. Okay, he’s not mad at you. He’s mad at the situation. And he doesn’t know what to do with his anger. So it — it just comes out all sideways at you and everyone else he loves. Mostly me. I know, I know, and I’m sorry. I think that you would stick beside him no matter what. And I thought that that’s how I felt about dex. But it’s not. So… when I walked into my daughter’s hotel room and found you in her bed… I was shocked. Well, anybody that would walk into their, you know, kid’s hotel room and find somebody in their bed would be shocked. I understand that you were blindsided. But even more so when she told me that you were her girlfriend. Yeah, that was a big step for her and for us, to be open about dating. Well, I-I wasn’t ready for it. And — and obviously, no matter what I said or what I did, it was wrong. And I — and I even knew that at the time, but I-I couldn’t — I couldn’t stop myself. Well, now you know better. Yuri told me how you barged in here to — to talk to a poor minor child without his parent or guardian present. Well, you can tell yuri that is not illegal. No, it’s just lower than dirt. And I don’t need to school yuri on state or federal law. He’s familiar with them both. You made the wrong assumption and confused his accent for ignorance. I didn’t mean anything by the comment. Just to be clear, I didn’t come here to arrest danny, and I didn’t know he was gonna be alone. Didn’t stop you, though, did it, from talking to a minor child about a father who he hasn’t seen in years, a father he thought was dead. What’s wrong with you? Jason morgan is a suspect in multiple shootings. But you’re right. I went too far. You know what? You should just stop talking and leave before you give me any more reasons to sue. And trust me, I’ve got plenty. And if it were up to me, you’d lose your impressive fbi badge. But since it’s not, I will just have to make sure you got to work real hard to keep it. I am sorry. Truly. If you would, please apologize to danny and yuri on my behalf. It’s okay, danny. You can come out now. Do you have any proof of this attempt on cyrus’s life? No, but, um, cyrus was rightly suspicious when he woke up and I was in his room, so he could be a witness. And — and nina reeves also saw me, and she — no, she’s not gonna testify. Cyrus might be willing to, but then he couldn’t truthfully testify about your intention. So his testimony wouldn’t amount to anything. The most we could get would be conspiracy. And then it would be your word against sonny’S. That’s it? No. Sonny would also have you killed. Dex, this isn’t the first time a situation like this has come up, and I know from experience that I wish I didn’t have… prosecution will go nowhere, and it will cost you your life. I’m willing to risk it. No. I’m not. That is why… this conversation never happened. Look at me. Do you understand? Yeah. Okay. Justice may not have been served this time, but I really appreciate you coming in and trying. Commissioner. If you ever need any help taking sonny down… keep me in mind.

And I know that jake feels awful about what happened to dante. But it’s not his fault just because he’s jason’s son. If jason did, in fact, shoot dante, then he alone is gonna have to carry that guilt. I am not gonna let the weight of jason’s sins crush jake. I respect your decision. You looked at dex with clear eyes, and you saw things you weren’t willing to compromise on. I just never thought that there was anything that would make me not want to be with him. Baby, unless you’re talking about your kids, there’s no such thing as unconditional love. There’s always conditions. And you found yours. Yeah, I guess. I don’t know. Maybe I could have made it work, though. Maybe. And then you would have sacrificed a part of yourself. And then you would have hated yourself, and then you would have resented dex and hated him. So, I mean, as far as I’m concerned, you spared both of you a lot of misery. Yeah. In my gut, it was the right thing to do. Yeah. But even doing the right thing isn’t always easy. Kristina’s always been her own person. Ever since she could talk, she had an opinion, and it was amazing to me how, you know, she was so young, she was so intelligent and interesting. And then when she grew up, I could see pieces of her mother and me in her, and I kind of had an idea what she was gonna be like. Now, there were a couple things that I was right on. We all want certain things for our kids, but we can’t make them be what we want them to be. It’s their life. They have to make their decision to become who they want to be. You’re very fortunate to have this man as your dad. I know. I’ve always known that my dad loves me no matter what. And it’s always made me feel really safe, like I could do anything. And I really wish that allie had that with you.

what do you mean? Dex was there when cyrus was there? That’s right. Cyrus survived the beating from sonny, and he also survived his hospital stay, which I’m guessing was just as dangerous. What were you doing there? He was there in hospital scrubs. Let’s not forget that detail. You’re smart, josslyn. You’ll figure it out.

[ Monitor beeping ] Dante. I know you’re in god’s hands, and I believe that your spirit’s strong enough to come back to us. I know you can’t hear me, but I just want you to know that I’m not giving up on you. And I don’t want… …don’t want you to give up on yourself. If you can hear me, I just want you to know that your father is always gonna be… with you. Ooh! Is dante — is he…okay? There’s no change and he would want you to sleep. You were at the hospital all night. Oh. No word from the hospital. Okay. I think I’m gonna maybe head up and take a nice hot shower. Actually, I just walked past your room and scout and sam are asleep on your bed. Ah. Hot coffee it is. Coming right up. You’re gonna make it? I didn’t think you knew how.

[ Scoffs, laughs ]

[ Laughs ] It was a regulatory body. I was under oath. Well, I know plenty of elected officials who have lied under oath. None of them have been disbarred. Yeah, I know a lot more that should have been disbarred. But how does any of this have anything to do with me? All right, dr. Collins. It’s true. During that time, I was a young black man down on my luck. And yes, I felt a certain kind of way toward the world around me. Angry. Right, pop? Yeah, I was angry. I have to take issue with two things, dr. Collins. We don’t characterize low-income people as “poor.” Being deemed “poor” is not good for one’s self-esteem or state of mind. And that “anger” marshall was feeling was justified. But I understand what you were trying to say. Marshall: Yeah, so — so do I. But given how things were back in the day, my age, my social standing, my blackness, how well-adjusted could I possibly be? That doctor called me schizophrenic. Did I have to be mentally ill to feel the way I felt? Exactly. You’ve just correctly diagnosed your misdiagnosis.

Why did you go to the hospital? I was told to go. By sonny? Yes. To deliver some sort of message? No. Why were you wearing scrubs? Did sonny send you to do something? Yes. To kill him? Yes.

Uh, but she did have to go, so she asked me to look after you. Aww. She said to bring you this and make sure you enjoy every sip. Aww. Damn, that is good coffee. Did you make this? No. You okay? No. Is there any word from the hospital?

[ Breathes deeply ] No. There isn’T. But I can call them if you want to. I just figured they’ll call if they needed anything. You mean like if there’s any change in my son’s condition? Honest to god, I don’t know if I should be relieved or terrified. I know it sounds trite, but you have to give yourself time. You’ll get through this. You just called that painting — what did you call it? What’d you say? It’s “fire”? Right? That’s more than going through the motions, honey. Hi. Um… do you have time to talk? I’ll just — I’ll go take that to the back. Are you okay? What’s going on? No, I’m not okay.

The invader ran this really insensitive story about the shooting on the pier that mentioned sonny. But why are you acting surprised by this? Because I’m the publisher of the invader, and they slipped it by me and published this story. If I would have known, I would have done damage control, or I would have killed it altogether. Well, if you’re worried about sonny, he could not care less about the story. And then I ran into josslyn. I went over to dex’s to see him, and she was there. Why did you go see dex?! Because I can’t see sonny. I can’t even go to the hospital to check on dante. Well, did — did dex say anything? No, he didn’t say anything. And I probably just made everything worse. But I don’t care because I am being pushed aside when my husband needs me the most. Ava, I have to find a way to get to him and I’m running out of options. I need you to help me. Right off the bat, I want to take issue with a couple of things. The charge of perjury against you came well after dr. Byrne’s hearing in front of the medical board in 2020. Right? Yes, yes. And that charge stemmed from julian jerome and britt westbourne, both of whom were known perjurers, both of whom were criminals, both of whom are dead. But neither of them were the ones that brought this to the attention of the bar. Yes, but they had to be deposed. And they’re both liars. Okay. All right. That’s off to the side. What I want to circle back to now is why you never defended yourself. Why you never mounted any sort of filing for yourself. Because it was true. Irrelevant! Let’s just say you, uh — you were never presented the opportunity. No, no, no, we can’t do that. Anyway, anyway, look, this is now just you and I here. You know full well you had the right to mount a defense. So why didn’t you? I guess at the time, I didn’t think I had anything left to fight for. Well, snap out of it. Shake off the “poor me’s” and rack whatever is left of that steel-trap mind. Because you’ve got two things to focus on now. Number one, why working here is not working for you, and, number two, how you plan to get out of it. Have any of you heard of a book called “the youngest science”? I read that, and if I recall correctly, it’s an account about medicine evolving as a science from an influential doctor’s point of view. Yes, it’s a personal historical accounting of 20th-century medicine’s evolution. It’s a fascinating read. Okay, okay. It sounds great. Maybe I’ll pick it up. Why are we talking about it? Only as a reference. Uh, medicine as a science has come a long way, but over a long period of time. Psychiatry is much younger, and as a discipline, it’s made all the same mistakes that all the other disciplines have made. Think of it as how astronomers used to believe that the sun revolved around the earth. The point is, scientists and researchers like to be right, and they often fall into the trap of “proving” what they already believe. Yeah, doc, that happens everywhere. Which brings us to dr. Braddock and his work. He wasn’t alone in his beliefs and practices. And I won’t defend the mistakes that my discipline made when psychiatry was still trying to figure out what the heck mental health even was. The point being, the big question at the time was, what is normal? And does that mean being like everybody else? “Everybody else.” Right. And if you’re a mid-20th-century psychiatrist making that determination, you tend to look at the people that you already know, which are going to be decently educated, employed, churchgoing, and predominantly white. That was the control group. Now, if you didn’t belong to this “normal,” predominantly cultural group, if you don’t share any of those hallmarks, or maybe you’re not as adept at code-switching, well, then you present a problem. Hm. An illness.

What? Sonny gives you that order and you say, “yes, boss”? I can’t believe you’d agree to something like that. No, I didn’T. I tried to talk sonny out of it. Oh. Okay. Yeah, of course. You would never go through with something like that. I mean, it’s just nina stirring up trouble, per usual. Except that’s not how it went down, joss. I was going to do it, but sonny stopped me. Tracy. Hi, sonny. Any news? I’d give you some if there was some. I left, uh… sam and olivia back at the house. They both needed sleep. Oh, I hope you won’t ruin my reputation as being cold and unfeeling. Your secret’s safe with me. I’m sorry. Every time I-I see a hospital bed, it just reminds me of luke lying in it. Well, my friend, perhaps your memory is impaired because, as I recall, you weren’t living your best life at the time. No, I was drinking. Definitely not making good choices. You never even had a proper hearing. I was the one who informed you of the decision by phone. Remember? Rings a bell. You know, there’s also a case to be made for bias. Bias? Why? ‘Cause I’m a woman? No. Because you’re a lawyer. Who does the medical profession hate more than anyone? Lawyers. I hate most lawyers, too. But more than anything in the world right now, I wish I still was one. Decades ago, psychiatrists deemed aggression, anger, or a sense of dislocation from the dominant cultural group as a mental maladjustment. Never mind the societal injustices that existed only because they hadn’t been challenged for centuries. Which was the actual maladjustment to begin with. Right. So defiant, anxious young black men were tagged as schizophrenic, whether the diagnosis was accurate or not, especially when one of the hallmarks of the disease is a misconception of reality, such as an institution or society at large is out to get them. Someone might be obsessed about that, or angry about it. Or desperate. To figure out why his heart is suddenly racing for no reason. Why… why his hands are sweaty and suddenly it’s hard to breathe. Or why people are just looking at him funny. I couldn’t play my horn like that, man. I was mad. And frightened. I thought something was wrong with me, or that somebody was trying to do something to me. So you sought help. And you, like a lot of other young men, were deemed schizophrenic when all you were doing was perceiving the reality around you. On top of that, the medications you were likely prescribed would cause unexplained behaviors, which would only reinforce the misdiagnosis. Lord, have mercy. An entire generation of unhappy women were prescribed valium. It’s a muscle relaxer. Gay, lesbian, and trans people were tranquilized, hospitalized, or, worse, electroshocked into quiescence. And that’s only if they had health insurance, by the way. Did you? For a short time. Once the insurance companies knew I had been institutionalized, I was dropped. Got bounced. Out the door with all the — those others you were talking about, who couldn’t pay. You’d find us on the streets and bars and prisons, worried. Worried we’d pose a danger to the people at home we most loved… or bring shame on them. There’s no shame for you, mr. Ashford. The shame is and will always be ours.

Was it that night that adam was in the hospital? Oh, my god. It was, wasn’t it? And I was in the chapel. And then you came in, and then I fell asleep. And when I woke up, you were in there. And I remember thinking how lucky I was that you were there, and that I could always depend on you. And now you’re… you’re telling me…what? If sonny hadn’t stopped you, you would have just come and sat in the chapel with me? I don’t know what would have happened. All I know is what did. I was in scrubs. I had lifted a vial of fentanyl from the pharmacy storage, and I was going to inject it into cyrus’ picc line when sonny showed up. And if sonny hadn’t stopped you, and he hadn’t walked in right then, you’re telling me you would have done it? Yes. Who are you? You promised that you’d help me try to put my marriage back together. Let’s come up with a strategy, a way to break through sonny’s anger and get him to see that he still needs me. The timing isn’t — isn’t very good for you, nina. I mean, what are you gonna say — “sonny, don’t look at your son who’s hanging on to his life by a thread. Look at me”? No, of course not, ava. No, it’s more like, “sonny, let me be there to support you. Let me love you. Let me be there when you’re going through this incredibly difficult time. Let me be your wife ag– again.” That’s what it’d be. I still don’t quite understand why you were with sonny at the warehouse. But you were there. That means that he trusts you. If you advocate for me, he will listen. Trina: Hey, ava. I just tracked the other packages, and another one should be coming in today. The delivery was pushed up. I have to go out. Are you up to staying here and receiving it? If it comes before I get back, just, um, log it in and — and lock up. Yeah, I got you. Are you all right? Yeah, I’ll be fine. Thank you so much. You remember when my nonna told us that boys were easier to raise than girls? Yeah. She lied.

[ Laughing ] Yeah. She did. Either that or she didn’t know any of the kids that dante grew up with. Oh, I think it was… maybe just our neighborhood, right? I mean, ’cause those boys, they were, like, a step above hooligans. And I mean a tiny step. Yeah. And dante was one of them. I mean, that kid got into so many scraps in that high school, they felt like they had to send him away for counseling. I’m telling you, I was — I was scared to death that there was actually something wrong with him. But it turns out it was just dante being dante. You know, he was always standing up to bullies, defending the weaker kids, and not letting anyone get pushed around. That’s why he’s such a great cop. Yeah. You know? The best kind. The ones that truly know what it means to protect and serve. Dr. Collins, I was a social worker for many years before I became a patient advocate. And the reason I switched is because I saw and experienced the inequities within the medical system firsthand. Those mistakes you spoke of were born of racism, sexism, otherism, plain and simple. And what happened to marshall wasn’t a mistake. It was malpractice signed, sealed, and systemic. I’m sure you’ve seen the stories of how blacks, minorities, and women experience medical bias. It’s all over the news lately, but it’s nothing new. It’s been going on since the jim crow era. And women still aren’t taken seriously by medical professionals. I know because I have patients I have to fight for in this very hospital. Not to mention the ongoing maternal health crisis for women of color. And what burns me up is that we have great, talented medical professionals in this country. There’s no excuse for any of this. I’m sorry. I could go on, but I’m done. I’m done. As you can see, doc, my auntie is a passionate social justice warrior. Yeah, baby, but I’m getting tired of this fight. Why, after all this time, are we still reckoning with things like this? We’re all human. It doesn’t matter, the variety. Biology is biology. You are an advocate in every sense of the word, ms. Henry. I hope you never stop. Yeah. I know, uh, an apology from someone like me at this late date is meaningless. No, no. Not meaningless. Not at all. You — you told the truth. You validated what I’ve been going through most of my life. I… doctor, I just wish I had been able to understand all of this sooner. Not handed over my sanity and my life to some guy with a degree because I thought he was helping me. Curtis: Well, that’s — that’s hard to do, pop, when the person you trusted to help you was attacking you. It’s insidious. I can just wonder — how many other people did he do this to? Oh, there were others. Braddock was a respected, published doctor. Well, we always figured it was something like this. And not only did you confirm it, but you — you shone a light on my life. It’s a lot to process. Kind sir, I am so grateful to you. Well, I’m sure you’re a bit leery of shrinks right about now, but my door’s always open if you ever would like to talk this through. I’ll think about it.

[ Chuckles ] Of course. Thank you, dr. Collins. Mr. Ashford.

Sonny gave me an order. I didn’t have the option to refuse. You’re telling me you would have chosen to kill for sonny? No, no. I didn’t want to. I just didn’t see a way out. But sonny asking me was a test. And either I pass or I’m the one who gets eliminated. I’m just lucky that he changed his mind. Dex, you’re not understanding me, okay? In my head, yeah, you’re working for sonny, but you are also working for my mom and my brother. My own family. I never thought that you would cross this line. I have pictured a life with you that isn’t possible. I was gonna leave everything for you. Now I feel like I don’t even know you. Oh, joss, that is not true. Okay? You do know me, and I know you. I’m glad that it didn’t happen. But I didn’t see the point of getting myself killed for refusing to take out cyrus. This isn’t about cyrus. I hate cyrus. This is different. Neither sonny, nor you, were being shot at. There were no guns out. This was a defenseless old man in a hospital bed. I cannot unsee the image of you going into that room. This is about you being okay with killing someone. Do you understand? I’ve killed before. You’re right. You have. And I have put you on this pedestal in my head and never imagined that this is something you would be okay with. But I’m not. This changes everything. I can’t do this anymore.

Well, apparently I have to file an appeal with the appellate court before I can file an appeal with the appellate court. Oh. See? I’m glad you understood what that means. Maybe you’re remembering how redundant and full of catch-22’s the law actually is. Maybe that steel trap isn’t as rusty as I thought. It’s creaky, but functioning. I suppose it has to be a special pleading… mm-hmm. Since I did lie so that neil wouldn’t lose his medical license. And then he lost it anyway. Yeah, yeah. You threw away your career for him. Why did I do that again? Because you’re a rescuer, alexis. You want to be the heroine in everybody’s life but yours. In fact, in yours, you’re the archvillain, so no punishment is ever enough. And speaking of board, I have a few things I need to run by you. Oh? Yes, but we don’t have to get into it right now. Well, I’m here right now, so let’s get into it right now. Braddock’s name to hell, I can take off. I came here intending to do just that, curtis. To holler and to curse. But I couldn’T. I couldn’t get something your aunt stella said out of my head. She got me when she said, “we’re all human.” Well, I guess at the end of the day, that’s what it all boils down to. Then why… why in blazes can’t we act like it? It’s so wrong. Everybody is — is wrong about most everything they think about. I lost — I lost decades because of how people wanted to see me or not see me. That doctor, he lost a lifelong career because of his misbeliefs. It’s so senseless, man. You’re being very philosophical about this doctor. Me? Not so much. He’s dead. And now I find myself in the position where I got to forgive that man. Because that’s what your mama would want me to do. Irene always said forgiveness isn’t for the other person as much as it is for ourselves.

[ Sighs ] Yeah. Curtis, if I — if I carry around hate for that man, I’m gonna turn into a hateful person. I’ll be just like him. Yeah, well… maybe I’ll just have to work harder on that. But I will. For you. And for myself. I just… I just thought of something. That doctor, he… that disgraced doctor is six feet under. And I am here. I’m here with my family. My beautiful, accomplished, talented family. A family any man would be proud of. Everything I thought was wrong somehow turned out to be right. Or is it just another proof of the existence of god?

Oh, my gosh. What? Joss, what happened? Is it dante? No. I mean, I don’t know how dante’s doing. I hope he’s fine, but… okay, well, I need you to calm down and stop crying because I am two seconds away from joining you. And if I start, I won’t be able to stop. So please take — take a deep breath and tell me what happened. It’s dex. What happened? Is he leaving town again? I hope so. [ Voice breaking ] I hope he never comes back. What? You are the only board member who hasn’t made an appointment for their complimentary annual wellness exam. Oh, it’s not necessary. I’m no longer seeing dr. Finn. You see, his brother is marrying my granddaughter, so it just felt a little too close. There are a lot of doctors in this hospital. And dr. Randolph would be happy to see you. I’ll get around to it. When? When I get around to it. What’s the big deal? Do I look sick to you? No. You look foolish. I just came down off a soapbox talking about the inequities in the medical system and how people are literally dying for proper care. And here you stand the very picture of privilege refusing to get a free annual exam! Lois: Isn’t it a trip, my daughter and your son growing up together, and now she’s about to marry his partner? Oh, life’s funny. Chase is really a sweetheart. Yeah, he is. Very devoted to his job. How is brook lynn handling that?

[ Sighs ] She’s crying her eyes out and hiding it from chase so that she doesn’t worry him. Yeah, that’s her new reality. I honestly don’t even know what to say to her about it. I don’t know how you put up with it all these years. I got to tell you, I’m terrified that my daughter is about to marry a cop. Now, you would think that it would matter that dante was on the right side of the law. A bullet doesn’t care. Sonny didn’t get shot. Dante did. I don’t think I’m still my own nemesis. I’ve had my dark night of the soul. I go to meetings, I do the work. I know that I’m gonna be the only one to champion myself. So you’re out of the rescue business? I may get a cat.

[ Laughs ] Maybe three. But in my personal life, I’ve hung up the cape. But — but impulses die hard. I still root for the underdog. Well, until we get your law license back, the only underdog I want you rooting for is you. Now, I am going to go see how far and how fast I can push this appeals process along. In the meantime, I need two things from you — don’t sleep with any more doctors. As far as I’m concerned, attorneys should only sleep with attorneys. Attorneys. Yeah. Maybe just district attorneys. You know, that way, we narrow down the pool. You know what I mean, right? Yeah. Mm-hmm. The second thing is, get rid of that insipid gossip columnist that came after me.

I thought that nothing could ever change the way that I feel about dex. But I was wrong. I feel like I don’t even know him. I feel like he’s a different person. Or maybe he’s always been this person and I’m just now seeing it, but… what he’s okay with, I’m not okay with. And what he can live with, I can’T. I won’T. I need the police non-emergency number, please. Let’s not make a federal case out of this. I will get my free wellness exam. Good. Shall I set it up now? No! I have to check my calendar. I’ll get back to you. Fine. You do that. I will!

[ Sighs ] Stella? Yes, ms. Quartermaine? I apologize for being rude, and I would like it if you’d call me tracy. Well, tracy, I was a little worked up already, and you’ve been rude to me before.

[ Both chuckle ] I’m surprised they let you in. Nobody stopped me. In fact, they — they told me at the nurses’ station that dante was stable. They’re not really supposed to give out that information. You know, only to the family. Maybe they thought I was nina. Don’t say that name. I just can’T. Right. I’m sorry. I won’t even talk. I’ll just — I’ll just stay and wait with you for a bit.

You can call me back at this number. Well, I guess I was being a little overconfident, thinking we could just drive down to maryland and get answers. This dr. Braddock, he’s hard to find. We’ll track him down eventually, and then we’ll find out why he misdiagnosed you with schizophrenia. Okay, now, go on. What, are you trying to get rid of us now? Well, do you or do you not have physical therapy? I do. All right, well, get to moving. Best not to argue with the lady. No, no, we probably won’t argue. Bye, aunt stella. See you. [ Chuckles ] I just can’t help myself, I guess. No. Good to see you. You, too. I take it there’s something interesting in the report? You could say that. Nina: Un. Believable. Thank you. Oh. You didn’t mean that as a compliment. Far from it, alexis. That follow-up piece you put in today’s paper about the incident on the docks? Yeah. What about it? Well, it was an outrage, that’s “what about it.” Well, like you said, I ran the piece. I didn’t write it. So? So, that’s how it works in local news. I understand how it works, alexis. But it was a smear job on sonny. And — can — can you pay attention? Sonny knows that I am publishing this newspaper, and the last thing I want is to antagonize him. Then quit. Better yet, why don’t you run the paper and stop antagonizing me?

[ Gasps ] I’m gonna break her kneecaps. Whose kneecaps? Did I say that out loud? No.

[ Sighs ] The guy with the — with the aviators. I can’t focus! Don’t you understand? It’s too painful to look at him. All I can see is his brother. I mean, look at this, with all the red marks, the cross-outs, the typos? I mean, please. And why didn’t you electronically submit this? You know something? If you want the edition out by tomorrow, you need to get out of my office. Right now. Out! Whatever. “Whatever.”

[ Sighs ] These are heather’s mri images. Uh, what are we looking at exactly here? Well, this is the reason she isn’t getting discharged today, not in this condition. Okay, while I love a good guessing game, I have a feeling I’m not needed here, so good luck. I think I’m going to need it.[ Chuckles ] Oh, dr. Enoch, thank you so much for making the time. Oh, the co-chief calls, I answer. Can somebody please tell us what’s going on? Um… you can actually speak in front of mayor collins. She holds heather webber’s healthcare proxy. I do? That’s what the paperwork says. Dear god — I suppose I might be the nearest thing she has left to family. Scary thought. Terrifying. Uh, look, um, can we get back to the matter at hand? I have citizens to protect. Ah. See these orbs of brightness? They suggest metallosis, specifically cobalt poisoning. And how do you get that? Fractured or slowly degrading hip replacement hardware. So heather’s hip replacement is poisoning her? Well, to confirm, we’ll need blood tests, a tox screen, and a panel for heavy metals. Already ordered. But that’s the working theory, yes. The syndrome’s accompanied by a spectrum of neuropsychiatric symptoms. To that end, have you noticed any changes, however subtle, in heather’s behavior in recent years?

Physical therapist: Good. Good. As you get stronger, we can increase these exercise weights. This is going to help your quads and hamstrings. And we’re all for that, aren’t we, son? How many reps, doc? Well, as many as you can tolerate, as long as you’re pain level doesn’t go above a three.

[ Grunting ] Okay. I know you have other patients. Do you mind if I stay at it for a minute? Uh, you keep an eye on him? Oh, absolutely. All right, go for it. Thanks. All right. Yeah.

[ Grunts ] There you go. Come on. Thanks for staying, dad. You know, I love it. Watching you work so hard. I’m proud of you, son. Well, I’m proud of you. I mean confronting dr. Braddock when I know you had reservations. Oh. [ Chuckles ] That. Well, have you thought about what you’re going to say to him when you’re finally face to face? Curtis, if he’s the same psychiatrist I remember, it won’t be anything nice. Hey, it’s dr. Finn. Anything on those orders dr. Robinson put through? Great. Thanks. Finn: Heather’s test results should be in. Oh, let me look them up. Okay. Here we go. Mm. My preliminary diagnosis is confirmed. Melatonin?

[ Sighs ] Metallosis. So, what now? Well, the failing hip that’s poisoning the patient needs to be replaced immediately. Well, can’t the federal pen at the women’s division do it? Robert. Well, c-come on. She’s a homicidal maniac. Yes, but now we’re learning that there may be a medical reason for that. She’s always been a bit loony. Yes, loony, right. I mean, she did crazy things, like, I don’t know, once, she tried to give somebody lsd, and she ended up drinking it herself, you know? She’s not a murderer. She is definitely not a serial killer. I mean, that’s just… new. Portia: Look, I’m not a fan of heather webber, but this is about human suffering. I checked with dr. Randolph, and she agrees with me. If we fail to treat heather webber, we could be opening ourselves up for an investigation, possible liability. Oh, we have got to let this go, robert, I mean, especially if it poses a risk to the hospital. Right. To think I missed breakfast in bed because of this.

[ Telephone rings ] Dr. Robinson here. Can you say that again? Thank you for getting back to me. Well, I’m glad to know that we’re still good at that. Did you think we wouldn’t be? No, it just — it’s nice to know, that’s all. I wish we could stay in bed all day. Well, why can’t we?

[ Sighs ] Because I have to pack. You’re still leaving? I have to, joss. Stop saying that. You don’t have to. You’re making a choice to do this. It doesn’t feel like a choice to me, okay? I’ve realized I don’t know sonny as well as I thought I did. Maybe that’s how you feel about jason now that he’s suspected of shooting dante. Jason did not shoot dante, okay? That, I know. What he did do is wrapped that bandage around him and called 911. You know how I know that? Because you two are very similar. You’re both good, decent human beings. Just like I don’t understand how you and jason are so loyal to someone like sonny. I was loyal to sonny, but I’m also afraid of him. Maybe not him so much, but who I’m becoming because of him. And maybe you should be, too. I am so sorry about nina. She doesn’t know. I don’t care what she knows or doesn’t know. She had no right to talk to you that way. It was callous, and it was rude. Maybe. But… as your publisher, nina’s allowed to set standards. And it’s become clear to me today that I’m no longer able to meet them. I disagree. Pretending otherwise does me no favors. Alexis, please allow me my dignity. This will be my last article for the invader.

[ Sighs ] Where are you going with that? Uh, to make the corrections that nina wanted. And then I’ll submit my final copy electronically, just like all your other writers do. Thank you. The pleasure’s been mine.

So, dad, I know how you feel about dr. Braddock now, but what were your impressions of him in the beginning? Dr. Braddock, he was — he was kind, at first. He was compassionate and understanding. Yeah. When I told him, “I feel like everything’s against me,” and I meant that — money. Work. Family obligations. He was sympathetic, and he assured me it wasn’t my fault. A chemical imbalance. The way he put it, son, way he put it was there was a part of my brain that was fighting itself. Right? So that was an explanation. Yeah, don’t ask me how I did it. I won’T. Anything to make me better able to take care of you, your mama, and your brother. But them pills, ooh, man, curtis, those pills, they — they made me rigid. I-I couldn’t play. I could hardly feel my fingers. And — and my mouth was so dry, the reed just stuck to it. Did you tell the doctor? That’s when he offered me those shock treatments, at the bargain price of $800 a pop. Get out of here. I ain’t kidding. So what’d you do? I blew up on him, that’s what I did. I vented my anger, and I vented my frustration. How did dr. Braddock take it? Not well. Metallosis? That sounds like something you get when your tongue freezes to the flagpole. Dr. Enoch believes the condition is what’s causing your symptoms. My symptoms? Yes, both physical and mental. Wait, are you saying that this poison is making me think things a-and do things that I normally wouldn’t? It’s a very real possibility that the metallosis has altered your perception and behavior.

[ Gasps ] No doctor has ever told me anything but that I’m crazy. How long has the pain in your hip been acute? Um, let’s see. Well, I’m not sure, but it feels like an eternity. Well, we would surgically remove the defective apparatus and replace it with a current model. You mean like buying a new car? You just junk the old hip and replace it with this year’s model? As with any surgeries, um, there are significant risks. Oh. A standard hip replacement takes approximately two hours. Yours may be double that. Okay. You will be under anesthesia and carefully monitored. Okay. However, in rare cases, patients experience complications from anesthesia. Complications meaning you never wake up? In very rare cases. But before we do the surgery, we’re going to start you on cobalt chelation therapy, which — yeah, excuse me, but c-could I — could I just have a minute? Thank you.

[ Monitor beeping ] I don’t understand what he’s saying. I mean, I hear the words, but all that “medicalese” just sounds like a lot of white noise. Do you know what he’s talking about? Uh, I-I think I do. Well, can — can you just figure it out for me, then, please? I mean, you’re my guardian now. No, heather, I-I’m not your guardian. It’s just in case you — you can’t make decisions for yourself, I’m in charge of your medical care. Well, as you can see, laura, I mean, I’m having a really hard time with that. You’re having a hard time with what exactly? With making decisions.

Paul braddock? He practiced out of baltimore, but from what I gather, he was fairly well known. You could say that. I had nothing to do with that. Is the invader not your publication? Ah. You seem to have forgotten that I have a new publisher, who has shoved a gossip columnist right down my throat. I haven’t seen anything about that. Well, you might want to start reading it. And I’m assuming that you’re going to print a retraction tomorrow. What do you want me to say? That you’re not a natural redhead?

[ Laughs mockingly ] I have something that you might be happier about. Thrill me. Nina has forbidden us to mention sonny at all. Nada, zip, not a word. So your number-one client is officially off-limits. My god. Does the woman have a single redeeming quality? You say it like I’m going to follow her orders. A lawyer can dream, can’t she? You mean a red-headed mob lawyer.

[ Chuckles, groans ] What if I said I would come with you? I’d say you were lying. To me, but mostly to yourself. Your family is way too important to you, and that’s a good thing. I wish I felt that way about mine. You’re important to me. It’s different. Yes, it’s different. I love my family. But I’m in love with you. And I love you, too. So much. You know I’ve never said that to anyone before. That’s why I want what’s best for you, and that can’t be me. Is it sonny that you’re worried about? Because I might be able to protect you. Gave me all these — these dire warnings about how — how it might progress, how I might hurt myself or my family and the shame it would bring upon them if that happened. Doctor, I was so scared. I was so scared, I left my boys and let my wife and stella here raise them without me. But none of it, none of it was true. You didn’t have what he said you did. What would make a doctor tell me I’m a schizophrenic when I wasn’t? I can’t say for certain. Guess. Dr. Collins, could you please help us out? We need answers. I believe you were misdiagnosed because you were young, male, poor, angry, and black.

[ Both laugh ] Come on, I didn’t bring the ziti over so you could praise my cooking. I — I brought it over to keep your strength up. Is that all? I wanted to check in on you, too. Well, you know, I went to the hospital, sat by dante’s bed. I’m trying to be there for olivia. I’m just terrified that my son’s not going to make it.

[ Monitors beeping ]

[ Tapping ] Hi. How’s it going? Do you want the cheerful and optimistic answer? If you’re feeling cheerful and optimistic. I’m scared. I’m confused. Yeah, I don’t blame you. I would be, too. Especially now that mom said jason is the prime suspect in dante’s shooting. Jason: I’m on pier 55.

A man’s been shot twice

Dante! Hey, dante!

Get the paramedics here now. Yeah? Hey. Hi. Do you have a minute? Sure. Come in. My office wants an update on the dante falconeri shooting and how it relates to the shot that was taken at sonny corinthos earlier that evening. Should the individual face separate charges, or do we make the warehouse and conspiracy charges lesser offenses included in the charge of first degree murder? Well, the individual in question is jason morgan. Uh, but I’m not convinced that he tried to murder anyone. God, I hope you’re right. Drew. Come in. I saw your light was still on. I was, um — I was just hoping to catch michael. Oh, he had to run an errand. I’m not sure how long he’ll be. You might want to text him. Yeah. This isn’t really something that I want to say in a text. Carly and I broke up.

[ Knock on door ] What time is it? Can I come in? Do you have a warrant? No. I just want to speak to you. Come in. Okay, agent cates. What do you want to say to me? I need your help.

[ Grunts ]

[ Sighs ] Hey, it’s me. Wait, no, no, do not try and stand. Willow said you need rest. I’m okay. No, you’re not, but you will be. Okay? Just let us take care of you.

Yeah. Nice. I gotta hand it to mom. She gave me and molly a heads up before the invader ran the story on dante’s shooting. What did she say? Everything that the article said, just more personalized — that jason is still alive and that he’s the prime suspect in dante’s shooting. It was so confusing to me then, and it’s still confusing. I don’t know how you’re holding up. This must be hitting you really hard. Yeah, I’M… still trying to process it all. Okay. “Okay” what? Well, nothing. I just — I expected you to say that this was all a big mistake, and there was no way that jason could do this. Okay, well, if that’s what you want to hear, then go talk to carly. I was just listening to the 911 call, which ids jason’s voice. I’ve heard it. Even without the tech, I knew it was jason. Yeah. Coupled with that, we have the dna evidence from the sweatshirt used to bandage dante. Jason’s blood — appears he was shot while wearing the sweatshirt, then took it off and tied it around dante’s wound. So we know that he tried to save dante. Did he also shoot him? Our preliminary theory is that dante was pursuing jason and a second individual. Jason shot his pursuer, and then upon realizing that it was dante, tried to save him. Well, that certainly fits the evidence we have so far. But you don’t believe it. I don’t want to believe it. That is something else entirely. Olivia says you’ve been a rock. Well, I’m glad she thinks that. Hey. You’re doing something wonderful for her, you know. You’re allowing her to pour all her love and her hope into your son. But you know you have the right to your feelings, too. Olivia may not be in a place to hear them or share them, but — but I can. It’s just not fair. Oh, come on. You know what I mean? I do, I do, but, you know, what’s fair, right? Well — listen. I love you. You know that. God forbid, situations were reversed and it was my child in a hospital bed fighting for her life, you would be the first person I call. So I want you to lean on me. You can tell me anything. You know I’m not going to judge you. If jason was the one who shot dante… I will never forgive him and I will never forgive myself. Why would I help you? You seem convinced jason morgan is innocent. He is. Help me prove it. Look, the last thing I want to do is waste bureau resources by chasing the wrong suspect, so help me out. Tell me why you’re so sure that jason didn’t shoot dante falconeri. Because jason isn’t reckless or stupid. He wouldn’t shoot at someone without knowing who they are. He wouldn’t shoot a cop, any cop, and he would never shoot dante. Why never dante? Because he’s sonny’s son? That’s part of it. But the other part is that dante lives with jason’s ex-wife, and they’re raising jason’s son. You know, for some men, that would be a motive for murder. Can I make you some tea? Or you know what? Forget that. Can I pour you a glass of wine? If you join me. Absolutely. Oh. [ Sighs ] It has been quite a day. How did michael react to the news about jason? Oh, he’S… thrilled that jason’s alive, you know, of course. And convinced he didn’t shoot dante? Yes. Yeah, so was carly. All evidence to the contrary, she’s sure that jason is innocent, and nothing and nobody can shake her faith in him. And that — that’s why we broke up. Willow also says you need to change into clean clothes. Yeah, when did willow get so bossy? Oh, she’s always been bossy. She used to be a teacher, remember? Now she’s a nurse. The secret is she’s — she’s very subtle about it. She’s so sweet and reasonable that you don’t even realize she’s ordering you around. She’s a good nurse. Like your grandmother. Your mom told me about bobbie. I’m sorry. Yeah, it happened on new year’S. She was in amsterdam sorting through, uh, luke’s affairs, and she — she passed away in her sleep. We were — we were all devastated, especially my mom. Man, you know what’s crazy? Um… the first time that I held you, bobbie put you in my arms. She did? Yeah. Yeah. You were, um — you were a little premature, and you had to be in the incubator. And then bobbie, she brought me into the nursery. She gowned me up, she — she sat me in this rocking chair, and she put you in my arms. And she taught me how to hold you, and how to support your head, and then… she let go. That was the scariest moment in my life. Hey, I don’t blame you. I felt that exact same way the first time I held amelia. Jason, I cannot wait for you to meet her. She is so beautiful. She — she looks like willow. Actually —

[Clears throat] Well, she — she wants you to get into clean clothes, so let’s, uh — let’s get on it. Yeah.

[ Groans ] You need help? Yeah. No. I’m good, I’m good.

[ Grunting ] What happened to you?

It’s not like I stopped loving carly. It’s just that I recognize that — that there’s no future there. I’m so sorry. Yeah, so am I. She’s an incredible woman, and she made me very happy, and I hope that I made her happy, too. Obviously, you did, drew. Come on. You’ve been incredible. Generous, supportive, beyond forgiving. Well, not always, not today. I came down pretty hard on her for — for something that I honestly, I don’t know if she can help. Not that she would want to, like… carly’s first loyalty is always to jason. He means more to her than anybody else, other than her kids. And when we all thought that he was dead, she was — she was free to pursue other relationships, but now that he’s back… she’s not. Alright, I’ll burn these. No, no. No, don’T. I need those. Jason, there’s a bullet hole through your shirt. No, when I leave here, I need to be wearing those clothes. There can’t be any evidence that somebody helped me. Definitely nothing that tracks back to you, willow, or danny. Okay. Whatever you say. So when you leave, where are you going? I haven’t figured that out yet. Can you at least tell me where you’ve been? Okay, clearly that line about me helping you help jason was just bs to get in the door, right? No, I’m just pointing out that some men might have a problem when their ex-wife moves on and their kid’s being raised by somebody else. Okay, so now instead of jason shooting dante to avoid arrest, he now lured him to the pier and shot him out of jealousy. It’s just a theory. Well, it’s a ridiculous theory. Well, it’s my job to entertain every possible scenario in the course of an investigation. Really? Because I thought it was your job to keep an open mind, to go where the evidence leads you. Is there any proof at all that jason’s guilty? Because I’m pretty sure there’s evidence that jason tried to help dante. How would you know that? When ava showed me the freeze frame of jason’s face from the drone, I couldn’t believe it. Ava? She went with me to the warehouse, and I knew something was going to happen, so I had spinelli put cameras all over the warehouse. So I went to dante’s, ava went to spinelli’s, she came back, and there was the picture of jason on the roof with another shooter. Sonny, I’m so sorry. That must have been surreal. When I first saw it, I thought it was fake, but it was legit. And, you know, uh, I just — I just couldn’t believe it. Well, it seems impossible. Well, for you, because you have history, but, you know, ava is more objective. So, wait, where is ava right now? She’s dropping off avery at school. Okay. Alright, so let me get this straight. Ava, she shows you the picture, right? You see that it’s jason. Right. And he appears to be working with the sniper. No, he is working with the sniper. Okay, and you realize you’re the target? Yeah. Why is jason trying to kill you? I don’t know, lois, but maybe it’s been so long since we’ve seen each other or anything. Maybe he’s just forgotten what it’s like to be loyal to me.

Multiple conflicts ofinterest when it comes to jason. A few years back, he saved my life. And that’s when I got to know him a little better than I had previously. He is — was — is remarkable. He’s cool under fire and a clear thinker and someone that I instinctively trusted. Then, of course, my daughter loves him. He made a crucial difference in robin’s life. All of which makes me want to believe that he did not shoot dante. But of course, I cannot be in this job wanting to think the things I want to think. I have to remain impartial and assemble the evidence, and trust the system. I think that’s why I’m really here — to see how you do it. Stay impartial. Because I don’t know that I can. Which would mean I’m in the wrong job. It’s not exactly a shock that carly thinks jason is innocent. Don’t tell molly I’m telling you this, but carly told me that jason showed up at her place the night that dante was shot. Well, again, that’s not really a surprise that he would go to carly. But why don’t you want me to tell molly? ‘Cause molly’s an ada, and she would have to notify the cops, and the cops could get a search warrant for carly’s house. And then if they did find any proof that jason had been there, carly could get charged with something like aiding and abetting. Yeah. Right. Hey. Mom would be proud. Daughter of a lawyer. I’ve got to be honest with you. I really can’t stand the sight of carly right now. I mean, I don’t want her to go to prison or anything like that, I just really want her to leave me alone. Did carly say jason said he didn’t shoot dante? Carly told me that jason showed up in her living room, they had a big reunion, the cops showed up, and not a word was mentioned about dante. But, I mean, he’d come from the pier. So even if he didn’t shoot dante, I mean, he was just there and he saw it and he called 911. You’d think that’d be top of mind, right? And that he’d mention it to carly. Yeah, you’d think. Classic jason — never says anything. Sam, you really think he did it? Every minute that goes by, I am afraid that he did it. I’m so sorry, sam. I just — I can’t believe that jason would do that. Especially since he’s wanted in connection to the rifle shooting at the warehouse. My dad has as a rip in his coat that pr– hey, danny morgan, what are you doing here again? I didn’t get killed when the tunnel collapsed on cassadine island. Well, that much is obvious. The tunnel was blocked. I couldn’t — I couldn’t get to britt and the others. So I followed the tunnel out. It led me to the beach, and I was heading toward the main house. But there were two guys there waiting with guns. Who were they? That part I can’t tell you. But they took me prisoner. They flew me out of greece, and, um, eventually I ended up in a room with no windows, talking to a man who wanted me to do a job. And he had the leverage to force me to agree. And you can’t tell me what that leverage was. No. What was the job? I’ve been working as a private military contractor. A mercenary. I’m sorry to disappoint you, but I haven’t seen jason. He didn’t fill me in on his version of events. If you check your records, you will see that one of the people who found dante at the pier was my daughter, josslyn jacks. Yeah, I remember her name from the report. Yeah. And when she and her friend, dex, showed up to the pier, they found dante bandaged with a sweatshirt with a cellphone lying next to him with an open line to 911.

That was jason. And no, not because he told me, but because I know jason. And why the hell aren’t you going with the theory that this other unidentified suspect was the one who shot dante, and jason was the one who saved him? Well, if you know jason so well, then maybe you can tell me why he ran away instead of waiting for the first responders.

I remember when jason started working for you. The quartermaines, oh, they were so upset. Especially alan and monica, but, you know, jason wouldn’t listen to anyone as far as he was concerned, he liked and respected you, and no one was going to stop him from being your friend. There was a point where I didn’t trust anybody more than jason. Or maybe — maybe I trusted him too much. What does that mean? When I was in nixon falls, him and carly got together. Yeah, I heard that they got married. But olivia told me that you showed up on the same day, and then they got it annulled. Right? I thought it was like a friendship thing, that they were helping each other out. That’s what I thought. Um, you know, maybe I thought wrong. Are you saying that you think they were cheating on you — look, I’m not saying they slept together, but they were in love. I was the last one to know. And it — and it — I just felt like it broke some trust. Is that why you divorced carly the last time? I thought it was because of nina. I’m not going to deny I had feelings for nina, but I really wanted to make my marriage work. I tried, I tried, but carly made it impossible. I’m so sorry. No, you know, it doesn’t really matter right now. My son could be dying, and the cops think that jason is the one who shot him. I don’t know why jason ran. Maybe it’s because he didn’t want to be arrested for something he didn’t do or locked up by the fbi, who already has presumed that he’s guilty. And I think it’s because he wanted to remain undetected. I don’t know, you’re going to have to explain that one to me. Well, it is clear that jason and the other suspect didn’t know there were surveillance cameras in the warehouse or a drone hovering the roof. They made no attempt to hide their faces. Which means at the time dante was shot, jason was under the belief that his presence in port charles remained undetected. He had no idea there was footage of his activities on the roof or that his picture was already in the hands of the authorities. Maybe you should be grateful to whoever shot him. If they hadn’t, he’d already be long gone. It’s hard for me to believe that carly would just let you go. I mean, you’ve been through so much together. You went to prison for her. Oh. Well, no, taking the plea deal to protect carly, that was the right thing to do. I would do that again in a heartbeat. I don’t regret that. It’s just that I would never want her to — to stay with me out of — out of obligation. Because at this point, that’s kind of all it would be. Okay, I think you’re really underestimating yourself and carly’s feelings for you. No, I know she loves me. She does, but… not the way that she loves him. And I didn’t want to drag it out, and I didn’t want to have to turn it into a test where she’s constantly having to prove that she’s choosing me over jason, because we both know the second that there’s a crisis, she’s going to run straight to him. I’m sorry. I really am, you know, you — you deserve so much better. I agree with you there. And I intend to find it. Michael: So how long have you been back in port charles? I mean, since yesterday. I was — I was working with a sniper. Hamish — I already told you about him. But when I found out the target was sonny, I made sure hamish missed. And then hamish and I, we were heading to the waterfront to leave by boat, and that’s when dante caught up with us. And you know the rest. So — so if you weren’t sent to shoot sonny, would you have come back at all? I don’t know. And I thought about it every single day. But the job the man gave me in the room with no windows isn’t done. Well, what happens if you don’t finish? Something I can’t live with. I have to finish. I can’t believe you snuck out for a second time. I didn’t sneak out this time. Yuri drove me. What is wrong with him? Doesn’t he realize that you are too young to be ordering him around? I lied and said you wanted to see me. Danny, I do want to see you. I love seeing you. But you have to realize I am going out of my mind with worry right now. And the only thing that is keeping me calm is knowing that you, scout, and rocco are safe at the quartermaines. You know, just a thought, but maybe he’s here because his father, jason, is alive and is a suspect in dante’s shooting.

I’ve got my own conflictsof interest with jason. Sam was married to him. They have a son together. Although it’s ironic, I think sam has more doubts about jason’s innocence than I do. You believe he’s innocent? Look, three years ago, if you’d asked me, I would have known he was, and no amount of evidence could have convinced me otherwise. I mean. I worshiped jason. I just thought he and sam had the most romantic love story ever. And even after they broke up, jason was somebody that sam — that our whole family could count on. You know, jason was an unconventional father, but he loved danny. He was willing to do anything sam thought was best for their child. Plus, he literally saved kristina from a cult. Yeah. So that’s another thing in the bonus column. I mean, why wouldn’t I give jason every benefit of the doubt? We don’t know where jason’s been or what he’s been through. What we do know is there is footage of him acting like a spotter for a sniper, taking aim at sonny. Hence the conspiracy charges. You don’t just accidentally wind up on a rooftop next to a man with a high powered rifle, helping him set up the shot. I mean, if he was willing to participate in sonny’s murder, why wouldn’t he shoot dante? But the anomaly is the 911 call. I keep thinking that dante was shot by the other individual and jason tried to help him. So why wouldn’t he stick around for first responders? All this could be a moot point because there’s been no sign of jason since he jumped from the bridge. Danny, I’m so sorry. I should have sat you down and talked to you. Mom, it’s okay. No, it’s not okay. I have been so focused on dante, I didn’t stop for a second to think that maybe you might have some questions yourself. I am not a little kid anymore. Dante’s been shot, so of course you need to be with him. Besides, it’s not like you can tell me anything about my father. Can you? All I know is what I saw in the invader — that jason is back and he’s a suspect in dante’s shooting. Okay. You’re right. You are not a little kid anymore. And, danny, to be completely honest with you, I have no idea where your father’s been or why he thought it was okay to let us think that he had died. But jason doesn’t think like other people. What do you mean? Your father. He is — he’s drawn to danger. He chases it. Actually, anyone else would have been trying to get home. But not jason. Maybe — maybe he has a reason. Yeah, I’m sure he does. But jason’s reasons aren’t like anyone else’s either. You know, I’ve been quoting your grandmother a lot today. And she’s taught me a lot about law over the years, both of us. But one of the most important things she taught me is that a defendant is innocent until proven guilty. So at the moment, it seems like all the evidence is pointing to jason being the one who shot dante, but he’s not guilty unless and until he is charged, tried, and a jury says so. I know you have a lot of questions, and I don’t know where your dad was or why he stayed away. Your dad is the only one who can really give you those answers. Hi, uh — drew. Michael. Hey. He’s the only one that I could talk to that doesn’t judge me, that believes in me, that helps me, that does everything for me. You want to know what the last thing I said to to him was? Kristina is right, and your father is innocent until proven guilty. We’re just going to have to hope that there is some sort of explanation for all this. And then when dante wakes up, he can tell us what happened. The doctors know when he’s going to wake up? Oh, there’s no way to predict that. It could be today or a while from now. He looked determined, like he knew that he could survive the drop into the river, and I think he did. Have the search parties turned anything up? No. But then, according to the csi, it’s something to do with the currents in the river. Like, if jason were dead, he would have washed ashore by now. And he hasn’T. Ergo, he’s almost certainly still alive. So where is he now? I don’t know. We’re continuing the search, and we’re proceeding with the theory that jason’s injured and holed up somewhere in the area, or maybe just slightly, that he rendezvoused with the other individual and he got out of port charles. Hell, he could have got out of the country by now, for that matter. He could be anywhere. You really think that’s just as likely? Yeah. I mean, I worked for the wsb for years, you know that. And I used to see these sniper teams operate, and they were professional. They get in, they set up, they make the kill, they get out. That does appear to be what was happening on the warehouse roof. In which case, jason is long gone. He could be almost impossible to trace. I mean, I guess I should be relieved. It means I wouldn’t have to prosecute jason. But disappearing is basically an admission of guilt. No? I’m not so sure. And the more I look at the evidence, the less sense it makes to me. Something else is going on here, something that I’m not seeing yet. Come on. You think dante hasn’t said a bunch of things about you in the last few years that he wishes he could take back? But you still love him, right? Always. Always. Yeah. So why don’t you cut yourself some slack? It’s just difficult, lois, because he only went to the warehouse because of me. He was telling me about the cops. If I had listened, he’d still be home. Okay. I’m about to rock your world, sonny. You are not god. You’re not responsible for dante’s choices. Or for jason’s, for that matter. You cannot control the outcome of events. But it doesn’t mean you’re powerless because you’re a parent, and there is nothing stronger than a parent’s love. That is what dante needs right now, and I know that he can feel it. I know it like I know my own name. Well, I’ve known you long enough. I’m not going to argue with you. Oh. That’s good.

[ Laughs ] Um, well, that hadn’t occurred to me until you just told on yourself, so I’m gonna keep a watchful eye out. Well, you do what you have to.

[ Chuckles ] What’s going on? Pop, I have some news that I should share with you sooner than later. Sounds important. I found the doctor that misdiagnosed you all those years ago. Jason is… the one that you turn to when… when you’re afraid and when you’re in trouble. He keeps your secrets. He’S… he’s the one that you count on. He’s never failed me. What about the last two and a half years when he let you think he was dead? That doesn’t count as failing you? I don’t know where jason was or what he was doing, but I know he came back as soon as he could. Do — do you hear yourself right now? Because basically you’re saying, like, wherever he was, whatever he was doing, like, you’ll be okay with it. I mean, he could have been lying in a hammock on a tropical island sipping rum, and — and you wouldn’t care? I hope that’s all that happened to jason. I have a feeling it was something worse. Well, whatever it is, we both know that you’re gonna be there for him, by his side, helping him through it. And carly, I’m not gonna be here to watch. W-wait, wait. Are you saying that we’re done?! Why do you sound surprised? Every relationship you’ve ever had has been trashed because of jason. I have not trashed us, drew. Worried. I stopped by the hospital, and there’s no change in dante’s condition, no sign of him waking up, so… who was with him? Uh, sam. Sam. Yeah, she’s still trying to wrap her head around the news that jason’s alive.

[ Knock on door ] Hey, danny. Is everything okay up at the house? Fine. I’m here because… I need a favor.

[ Alarm ringing ] There they are!

You’re telling me that after all this time, you found that doctor? Dr. Paul braddock. You’re certain? It’s the same doctor, paul braddock, who slapped a label on me and ruined my life? I mean, I can’t be 100% certain, pop, but he checks all the boxes. He was — he was on the hospital staff, working at that hospital in baltimore when you were brought in for treatment after your arrest. And he’s still alive? Yeah, yeah, according to the information I was able to access. Of course, he’s retired. He’s living in some — I don’t know — fancy retirement community in westminster, maryland, just outside of baltimore. Pop, we can take a road trip tomorrow

if that’s something you might want to do. Pop, you okay? What… what are you thinking? Not quite sure. I’d always figured he’d be dead by now. I never thought I’d be able to confront the man who — who convinced me I was a danger to my family, the man who introduced me to the word schizophrenia and — and tore my world apart. Yep. That one word was the reason you cut yourself off from everyone you loved and from everyone who loved you. And it turns out, after all this time, I can still look him in the eye. Maybe I could — I could get some answers about myself and — and maybe… maybe see what kind of man he is. Hey, man, it’s a — it’s a lot to take in. Pop, it’s not too much, is it? Aunt stella and I aren’t pushing you toward a confrontation that you’re not ready for, are we? Two individuals were observed on the roof of the warehouse — jason and an unidentified man. Y-you’re already aware of this because spinelli — he was working for you when he put in surveillance, right? Detective chase says he and dante observed the individuals 200 yards from the warehouse, and then they were moving towards the pier, and that’s when dante went after them. 18 minutes after that, 911 call came in reporting that dante had been shot. And voice id confirmed that jason made that call, so we know that he tried to save dante. We don’t know that he shot him. But you don’t know that he didn’T. I need to speak with the commissioner. I’m sorry, agent cates. She’s in with someone. You’ll have to wait.

[ Police radio chatter ] Detective, how long has the commissioner been in with sonny corinthos? Drew, wait, wait! Wait. Come on. Oh, I wish I could… I wish I could tell you that jason didn’t come first. I’m — I didn’T… know this was gonna happen. I didn’t mean to hurt you. I know, I know. I know you didn’t mean to hurt me, and… it doesn’t matter what you did and you didn’t mean. The second that you found out that jason was alive, we were done. So — so, what? Every… everything good between us, it just ends? We pretend like it didn’t happen? What? No. God, no. It happened. It just — it wasn’t enough.

[ Sighs ] I loved every second that I got to spend with you, carly, I really did. But I am not gonna compete with what you have with jason. I don’t want to. Look… uh… I’m a businessman, and I know when to cut my losses and, like… …speaking of that, I-I can’T. I can’t go to work every day and I can’t — I can’t see you. And I know you did an amazing job at crimson, and I know you were only there for me. I know you didn’t want to be there. I — I’m gonna let you off the hook, and I will find somebody else to run the magazine. You’re firing me? No, carly, come on. Your heart wasn’t in it. You take care, okay?

[ Exhales ]

[ Sighs ]

[ Sighs ] Okay. So, uh, what do you need? It’s, uh — it’s — it’s kind of private, sorry. Oh, no. No worries. I have to take this upstairs anyway. So, um… what can I do for you? It’s hard to explain. I need to show you. Can — can you come with me? Right now? It’s important. Okay. All right, let’s go.

You and stella haven’t beenpushing me to do anything I haven’t been thinking about myself for years. So you can let that worry go. Okay. Just know that, uh, you have our support, whatever you decide or decide not to do. I do know that, son. But ever since stella told me about dr. Braddock, I-I haven’t been able to think about much else. Just the chance to be able to talk to the man himself and maybe — and maybe make sense out of what happened to me fills me with hope that I can know once and for all what, if anything, was actually wrong with me. The — the professionals, I think, they call that closure. And I want that for you, pop, more than anything. I don’t care what they call it or what you label it. You’ve suffered enough. You are a good son, curtis. And I thank you. I thank you for all the hard work you did getting me the answers I need. If dr. Braddock can ease your pain even just a little bit, then why are we still sitting here?

Fortunately, I’m not one of them. I do, however, have business with curtis. Selina, I could have saved you a trip. I’ve told you already many times our business is over. I believe I have something that will change your mind. How many times do you need to hear the man say it? You need to go on and get the hell out of this club. And if you’ve forgotten the way, I’d be happy to show you. I’m not afraid of whatever this is that you dragged in here on the bottom of your shoe. That’s just foolish, mr. Ashford. And you’ve never been a foolish man. Pop, pop, don’t get worked up. Don’t do ’em dirty yet. I can handle this. Ms. Wu, I have nothing to say to you. And I’m quite certain I am not interested in anything you have to say. Even if it’s information leading to the identity of the person who shot you? You have a reason to believe that jason would shoot dante? All I know is you’re searching for jason. Well, we’re searching for both men. We’ve identified jason. We can’t pull a clear image of the other man’s face from the footage. And he’s disappeared. And so has jason. Well, jason didn’t disappear. He jumped off a bridge so he wouldn’t get arrested. Right. If he died in the fall, we would have recovered his body from the river by now, and we haven’t, so therefore, the assumption is that he is still alive and he’s injured. How do you know that he’s injured? There’s a bullet hole in — in the sweatshirt that was used to bandage dante, and forensics pulled two different blood samples from it, dante’s and jason’S. I don’t know how long the commissioner has been in with corinthos, but maybe you can ask her when they’re done. It’s pretty clear she’s not interrogating him. You know, I couldn’t say. I commend your discretion, detective, but doesn’t it bother you just a little that your superior is in close conversation with a known racketeer? Nope. Working out or beating someone up?

[ Laughs ] Little of both. Mm. I know the feeling.

[ Monitor beeping ] Hi. How’s dante? Um, he is, uh… critical but — but stable. Yeah. Have you heard from jason? I’ve seen him.

[ Exhales ] Jason? Hey, michael. Oh, my god. Oh. He was shot. H-how long have you been here? Uh, since last night, early this morning. Danny found me. Uh, he brought me, um, a first-aid kit. But I do not want to ask him for anything else. I don’t mind. I know, I know. But it wasn’t fair for me to bring you into this. Hey, you should — you just sit down. Come on. Oh, man.

[ Sighs ] Can you just — can you take him back up to the house? I think I can find my own way back there. No, I-I know, danny. I know you can… I know you can find your way back. I just want to make sure you stay up there. Why don’t you want my help anymore? Because I’m wanted by the police, and you shouldn’t be anywhere near it. I’m glad that you found me. I am. I shouldn’t be. But I missed you every day when I was gone. What’s gonna happen to you now?

I know you’re feeling helpless. I understand that you want to do something, anything, to make a difference for your son. Pray. Go sit by dante’s side. But do not go off to jason or this other man yourself, because you don’t have all the information and you’re gonna wind up doing more harm than good. Are you saying you got the name of the person who put my son in this wheelchair? Hang on a second, dad. I know this game. And we’re not playing. What game? Because after the fbi and pcpd raid on your warehouse, it would seem that your power base is shaky, at best. That’s quite an exaggeration, but it’s true that my life was threatened at night, and I cannot and will not abide it. You and i have been deceived. That’s why I’m here. Not to bargain, but to give you a warning. I’m listening. It appears that the man who shot you is jason morgan. And we both know that he only acts under sonny’s orders. You’re saying sonny corinthos wanted curtis dead? Where was jason? When did you see him? I saw him last night at my house. So before he jumped from the bridge? Yeah. What did he tell you? So — so the — what I was told, that there was a sweatshirt that was wrapped around dante, used as a bandage, and it had jason’s blood on it, so he was obviously there. Yeah, I mean, it seems like it. Well, he either was or he wasn’t, and he obviously was. Carly, what did jason tell you about the shooting? He didn’t say anything, sam. He didn’t say a word about dante. Please don’t let me interrupt. Sounds like you got some frustrations to work out, too. So, uh, be my guest. I’m just, uh… having second thoughts, that’s all. About? I was dante falconeri’s superior for a few years. I want to be out there searching for the man who shot him. But I’m not a cop anymore. I’m the deputy mayor. And I just remembered the man police are searching for is your brother. I apologize. What are you apologizing for? Because you hope the police will find jason? I hope they do, too. Sam, come here. Look, I told you, jason and I barely had a chance to talk. I mean, when I realized I wasn’t hallucinating and he was really there, I saw that he was injured. So I went to get a first-aid kit, and I was barely able to give him a bandage when the police showed up. By injured, you mean shot? Yes. And he didn’t say who shot him? No. Did it ever occur to you to ask? I already told you, there wasn’t time. Sam, why are you being like this? Oh, I don’t know, carly. Maybe because my ex-husband, who I thought was dead, is alive. And possibly shot the man that I love. Hey. Hey. Is everything okay? Um, all right, look, jason’s in the boathouse. He — he was shot. Danny brought him a first-aid kit, but he needs a nurse. Can you help him? Of course. I’ll, uh, get my medical bag. Wh– what about the kids? Uh, danny’s gonna stay back in case one of them wakes up. Okay. Jason? Willow. Michael says you need a nurse. No. No, no, I don’t — I don’t want you involved. Too late. I-I thought you were taking danny back up to the house. Danny’s at our house with the kids. [ Groans ] The bullet went through.

[ Winces ] It will still need to be cleaned and sutured. Okay. Sonny would not order a hit on his own son, and jason would never target him. So your intel is wack. How well do you know sonny, really? Think about it. Sonny escapes not one, not two, but three attempts on his life and emerges again and again unscathed. That seems statistically unlikely, does it not? Not for someone who’s been on top as long as sonny. The man is surrounded by bodyguards and security. The shooting at the pool, even the events at the warehouse — those could have been staged. As for puerto rico, how can we know what, if anything, actually happened? Were you there? I certainly wasn’T. I’m sorry, selina, but everything you’re saying sounds statistically unlikely. Not if you factor in what I believe to be sonny’s long-term plan. I’m waiting. To annex new territory for which he’d need a trusted enforcer who no one saw coming, which fits in with jason’s sudden death on cassadine island a little more than two years ago. Now you’re the one that sounds paranoid. There are worse things to be right now. Jason works for sonny, always has and always will. And it appears sonny is done with any kind of compromise, and anyone who stands in his way surely won’t be there long. Just a few things to think about. Mr. Ashford. This changes everything. Okay, I’m just gonna ask.

[ Grunts ] Go for it. Your brother’s wanted for shooting a cop, and you want him taken into custody? Absolutely. If he’s innocent, the best thing he can do is turn himself in and prove it. You said “if.” I did. So you admit that there’s a chance that jason shot dante? You would know better than me. I’m sure anna devane has briefed you on the investigation. I’m just saying I would have expected you to insist that jason’s innocent. Based on what? I wasn’t there. I haven’t seen the evidence. And I don’t know jason well enough anymore to know what he would or wouldn’t do.

[ Grunts ] Jason did not shoot dante. And no, I don’t have any proof. But I know that because I know jason. You know jason. He would never do something like that. No, I hope that he didn’T. Carly, I pray that he didn’T. But while jason has been god knows where doing god knows what, dante has been here helping me raise his son. So if jason is the reason why dante is laying in that bed right now, hooked up to those machines, I will never forgive him. Can you tell us what happened?

[ Sighs ] I-I mean, not — you know, not all — ooh — not — not all of it. Dante was chasing me and, um, another guy, hamish. And, uh, he told us to stop.

[ Sighs ] I did. Hamish didn’T. I turned around. Dante recognized me. He lowered his gun, and then hamish shot him. I knew it wasn’t you. I went to check on dante, then hamish took a shot at me. There’s a lot of shooting. Yeah. What happened to hamish? He’s dead. When josslyn and dex got to the pier and they saw dante there, he was — he was alone, so… yeah. Um…

[ Clears throat ] Ooh. Sorry. I did — it’s okay. I did everything I could for dante. I called 911, and I did not leave until I heard the sirens coming. Jason, you saved his life. I’m the reason he got shot in the first place.

You know I want justice for dante. Yeah. Well, let me get it. I can’t even believe we’re having this conversation. I’m telling you to find jason when usually I’m the one hiding jason. But I don’t know jason anymore, especially in the last two and a half years. Or more. Look, biologically, [Chuckles] Jason and I are twins. Right? But that’s where the connection ends. I can’t explain why he does what he does. And the last thing that I want is to matter to someone because I’m jason’s brother. Okay, and by someone, you mean…? Well, it’s a… long list, but, yeah, carly’s at the top. Look, we broke up a few hours ago. I broke up with her. Oh, I’m sorry to hear that. Breakups are never easy. [ Chuckles ] Well, go ahead. Look, I vented to you. Now it’s your turn. Is he gonna be okay? Yeah, I think so. Um, willow was able to dress his wound. She’s just gonna stay with him for a little bit, monitor him, make sure that he doesn’t have a-a fever. Right, right. That’s — that’s good. Yeah. It must have been a pretty big shock for you to find him in there. Bet he was as shocked as I was. Not that you could tell, right? I-I could. As crazy as it was finding him there, it was — it was good to see him. Yeah. He says he didn’t shoot dante. Do you believe him? I do, but the police think he’s guilty, and he ran away. Doesn’t that make him look even guiltier? Jason ran because he had no other choice. Did he tell you that? No, I just know. Look, danny, your — your father is a good man, the best man I have ever known. And he has a reason for everything that he did. And when he can, he will tell us what those reasons are.

[ Cellphone rings ] Oh.

[ Mumbles ] Hey, ned. Yeah, yeah, danny’s — danny’s here. We, uh — we just got caught up, um… caught up playing video games, but, uh, I-I’ll send him up. Okay. Nice job covering. Yeah. Got kind of used to it. Um, you better go. Look, you don’t want them sending yuri to look for you because they might check the boathouse. Right. Okay. Um, will you come by the house in the morning? Yes, I will find you and give you a full update. Thanks. Danny? No one can know about this. I know. Drink this, and I’ll bring you more. Okay. Thank you. Try to rest. It’s very important, okay? I’ll be back with blankets and more fluids. Nah, you don’t — you don’t need to do that. Yes, I do. Like it or not, you’re my patient now.

Pop, don’t tell me you’re buying any of that stuff selina wu was selling. That woman has reasons for doing everything she does, and none of them involve helping anyone except selina wu. I’m aware. She’s not exactly what I would call a subtle woman, but I think you owe it to yourself to chase down any lead on who might have shot you, even if the source of that lead is less than ideal. This is not the time for us to be running down to maryland to make sense of my distant past. Pop, it’s not a distant past. You’re misdiagnosis — it stayed in your heart, every step, every day of your life. I still think you’re dealing with it. Then another couple of days won’t matter.

[ Sighs ] Look, so many people are looking for jason morgan. I don’t need to be one more of them. I don’t know. There’s a lot going on here. Maybe — I think it’s best we stay home for now. I hear you, pop. I hear you. Tell me this. Um… until you find out what led to your misdiagnosis, do you think you’ll ever know one moment of true peace? [ Chuckles ] Ah, ha, ha, see? Pop, that settles it. Okay? We — we — we’re gonna go to the fancy retirement home in westminster, maryland, okay? We’re gonna talk to dr. Braddock, and we’re gonna get the answers that you need so you can live some semblance of a peaceful life. I understand police work,but city government, it’s — it’s like a puzzle where all the pieces keep changing. So quit. I couldn’t do that to laura. Besides, anna’s commissioner now. Okay. Well, you could always go back to being detective — chief of detectives. I’m sure they’d be happy to have you. Yeah, well, I’m not a quitter. Besides, in between all of the meetings, I get glimpses of the bigger picture. Solving cases helps one person, one family at a time. Mm. But a good city government helps everyone in the city. For what it’s worth, I admire you for sticking it out. And I’m also grateful. My headquarters are in port charles, and when the city looks good, so does aurora.
