THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

Uh, I think I finally got our Jude down for the night. Uh huh. You said that ten minutes ago. Yeah, well, if he happens to wake up, then I think I might just take him over to my mom and John’s place and put Uncle Brady to work as godfather. Hmm. I thought you, uh, hadn’t asked Brady yet. Mm, I haven’t. But this might be a good time to offer him the job.

You know, then he can fulfill his duties as godfather. Godfather. Okay. That’s good. Speaking of family, I know how tradition is so important to the Bradys. So what are your thoughts on moving the reception venue back to the pub as we previously discussed? But we already talked about that. No, I know. I know.

I just was I had time to think. I was mulling it over and, you know, I just got worried that your dad might feel. He might feel slighted if he doesn’t have the chance to give his baby grandchild a christening party. Yeah, well, the thing is, Nicole, she’s really excited about hosting at the Demarest. And like I said, Dad, he’ll understand.

Really? You don’t think you’ll be hurt? Is this about keeping Jude’s christening celebration in the family? Or keeping Nicole out of it? I can’t even believe this. John.

See, didn’t He told you that I killed Constantine’s daughter, didn’t he?

John So you’ve known all these years, haven’t you? But when I asked Point blank to my face and you’ve gone behind my back and you told my wife. So my question to you, partner, is were you ever going to tell me? Dammit, Steve!

Part of bed rest, don’t you understand, huh? Come on, sit down. Get off your feet, please. Yeah, sorry it took me so long. Yeah, well, where were you? You had me worried. I just, uh, had some things I needed to take care of.

What’s going on? Oh, uh, Detective Michaels was just here asking for you. And? What did he say? Well, since you failed to neutralize Clyde Weston, who has just Escape from prison. I can safely infer that you are no longer of any use to the good detective. He also told me that you shot him in cold blood and he demanded justice be served for his attempted murder.

Hey, Jay. You’re still gonna help me out, right? You and I, we made a deal. Don’t worry yourself, Stefan. Don’t worry. Since I can’t wait to get rid of you, I am going to help you. In fact, tonight is going to be your last night as a DiMera. So make the most of it.

Cheers. Exciting. Oh, that’s good stuff.

Like sand through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.

Eric, you already know how I feel about Nicole. I frankly don’t understand why you told her she could throw a christening party for a kid that she’d kidnapped not even that long ago. That was only because she was out of her mind in grief. Not to mention she apologized profusely and we accepted, didn’t we?

Yeah, I suppose so, sure. But still Holly is like a daughter to me. And she thinks of Judah as a brother. And that’s why I think it’s important for her to feel a part of this. Yeah. So, Eric, it’s about Holly or Nicole. Hi. Hey,

hey, uh, I hope I’m not interrupting. No, you’re not interrupting anything. Actually, I was just leaving. Have a good night.

It’s ironic, isn’t it? That after all these years, Constantine, of all people, is Is the one who finally told me the truth.

Steve was afraid how you’d react to the truth. The truth? That I Took the life of an innocent young woman. John. I see. How are you supposed to react? John. It might not be the truth at all. Constantine doesn’t know the whole story any more than you or I do. What I do know is this young girl was a real person.

John. She was somebody’s daughter, and I killed her. What’d you have to take care of? Is everything all right? When was the last time you saw or spoke with Stefan? Oh, um, God, I don’t know. Um, my head’s been so focused on Tripp. Um, I guess probably a few days ago when you woke up at the hospital. Why? Well, I just wanted to have a little chat with him about Clyde, but Unfortunately, he’s nowhere to be found.

You’re all set to depart, Stefan. I’ve secured your new passport and transportation out of Salem. Tomorrow morning, you’ll assume your new identity and be on your not so merry way. Oh, man. I didn’t think it would move so fast. It’s break glass time, Stefan. Clyde wanted you to off Harris. Harris wanted you to take out Clyde.

And since you failed so spectacularly on both counts, the only options you have are prison, death, or North Korea. North Korea, that’s it. That’s a joke, right? Dead serious. I told you I’d get you safely to a country that doesn’t hold an extradition treaty with the U. S. You just didn’t tell me which one you’d prefer.

I’m sorry, Jay, this is nuts. You said you would help me, not send me into a frickin war zone. Would you prefer Afghanistan? Wait. I hear Siberia’s weather is fantastic this time of year.

You know, come to think of it, it is odd that I haven’t heard from Stefan. I mean, you don’t think that he had something to do with Clyde’s escape? Do you? I mean, I know Clyde put the screws to Stephan by threatening Gabby, and obviously Stephan is very protective of her. Yeah, I mean, he’s definitely crazy about her.

Yeah, he’s crazy about her. He’s worried about her too, understandably. So, I think You might even be surprised by the lengths that he would go to protect her. No, no, no. This is not what you agreed to? No, I beg to differ. How the hell am I supposed to navigate these places, huh? I don’t speak Russian, okay? I certainly don’t speak Korean, and I definitely don’t speak Sorry?

You mean to tell me you’ve never studied the official language of Afghanistan?

I lost four years of my life thanks to you. Well, only in part, actually. Now, if you want me to hold on to your worldly assets and not send you to a safer location, I mean, I’m free to do that. I can’t believe I’m trusting you with my life. Well, as father always said, starting over builds character.

Look out. What the? Ugh, it’s you. Party a little too hard on St. Patty’s Day? First off, you’re still talking way too loud. And second, whatever perfume you’re wearing is making me want to toss my cookies. Oh. Truth be told, I think Roman Brady was trying to do me in last night. I have a world class katsu jammer.

A little too much Irish whiskey? All of that, and a bunch of green beer. Lesson learned. Never mix the two. I think the real lesson learned here is don’t go drinking on my dime. Uh, it’s my dime now, Ms. Snarky Pants. And you may want to show a little more consideration for someone who’s currently feeling weakness, fatigue, headaches, muscle aches, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, and extreme irritability.

And maybe if you did a little less drinking yourself, my weekly allowance wouldn’t be overdue. Oh, there’s another symptom I’m experiencing. Impatience to the max. So cough it up. Now. Are you sure this is a good time? Because Sloan did not seem very thrilled when I arrived. I’m sorry. She was a bit exhausted.

That’s all. Jude, he was just a little hard getting down today, you know, and he just didn’t sleep well at all last night. Okay. Hey, by the way, we had a little mess up getting the invitation set for, uh, christening and everything. So we were thinking about the day after tomorrow. Yeah, Marlena told me. And I wouldn’t miss it.

You know what, I’m glad you said that. Because I have a big favor to ask of you. Would you do this honor? Being Jude’s godfather? Oh. Wow, um, no, that, that, I’m, I’m, I’m honored that you would ask me. I, But no, no, I can’t do that.

John, don’t torment yourself. Listen to me. Look at me. You’re a wonderful man, a wonderful husband, a wonderful father and friend. Damn fine killing machine. John! I can’t live with myself like this anymore and I won’t. Wait a minute, what are you saying? I’m not, I don’t harm myself, but I am gonna do the one thing that I know I can do.

And it’s turn myself into the authorities.

Come on. Why would Stefan help Clyde? He despises him. Yeah, he’s crazy about his wife, we already established that. Mm hmm. I know he, he cares about you, so maybe you can reach out to him. We already have. I mean, I called him and I left him a text, but he never responded. And Harris, he can’t be running all over town like some action hero.

Come here.

I’m taking you to bed. No arguing.

Why do you put it that way? I definitely won’t argue.

Now, I suggest you take only a few changes of clothes and toothbrush. Nothing more. Oh, man. I was planning on packing an entire trunk full of all my possessions, including guidebooks, language books, and, uh Can’t forget Dari for dummies, right? Don’t be silly. You packed a lot, Stefan. Right. Toothbrush and a couple of outfits.

I’d at least like to say goodbye to my wife. Before I go. Sure. Sure. If you’d like to say goodbye to your life as well. Need I remind you the power Clyde’s network wields at Statesville? You walking there now, you’ll be taken out feet first. But don’t worry, I’ll gladly put the knife through Gabby’s heart on your behalf.

You sadistic son of a bitch. I’d pull back on the name calling, Stefan. Since your very life is in my hands.

What are you going to tell my wife? I’ll tell her that you’re going to start your happily ever after without her. And no worries, I’m sure she’ll do the same at her earliest opportunity, unless she’s already done that.

Yes, please.

Tell her I love her. I don’t care about anything else. Just please tell her I love her. Okay? No. Now, a car will meet you at the end of the tunnel just before dawn. Oh, I can’t remember. You’re not claustrophobic, are you? Well, I hope not. Because it’s probably safest for you to ride in the trunk.

Here. Fantastic! This isn’t going to bounce, is it? Have my checks ever bounced? There’s a first time for everything. Uh huh. Well, this check is covered. Unlike you, I actually know how to stick to a budget. Uh, I know how to stick to a budget, missy. And my being in the red had nothing to do with my St. Paddy’s Day antics.

It’s because of a suit that I bought for a certain someone’s baby christening. Oh my god. What? I wasn’t going to show up in any old schmata. I want to look fabulous to celebrate that adorable child being given his Christian name before all of his family and friends. He and I have a very special connection, born out of my birthing him.

And I can’t wait until he’s old enough to talk so he can tell everyone what a great job Uncle Leo did at bringing him into the world. Well, I have a simple fix for your budget woes, Uncle Leo. Return that suit and get a refund because you will not be coming to Jude’s christening.

So you won’t be Jude’s godfather, Eric. It’s an honor that you asked me. I just don’t think I should be associated with any titles that have the word Father in them. Alright, given the way I’ve screwed up with my own kids. What are you talking about, Brady? You’re a great dad. Am I? Am I? I got one kid in a halfway house.

I got another daughter that pretty much doesn’t care whether she sees me or not. I hardly ever see her. Wait a minute. If Rachel doesn’t care whether she spends time with you or not, it’s only because Chris didn’t mess with her head. Yeah, but the only reason Kristen is able to mess with her head is because I screwed up and made mistakes and I lost custody of my daughter.

And by the way, I don’t know if you, do you know the latest on Tate? He broke out of the halfway house and then broke into the DiMera mansion to see Holly and EJ has slapped a restraining order on the kid. What? I know he’s a kid. I know he’s a teenager. I know he’s impulsive and I know he’s nervous and he’s scared.

He’s also in love. You know, I mean, I would have probably done the same thing if I were. I probably do the same thing right now because it’s genetic. History has shown if there’s a mistake to be made, man, I’m gonna make it. And my kids, they’re just taking after their father.

Turn yourself in and say what? John, listen. We’re talking about something that happened decades ago in another country. I’m sorry. You don’t remember what happened and I didn’t see it. No one did. I tried to convince myself that I was one of the good guys. You are. Look, I knew. I knew that Yeo Lang, he tried to create me in his own image when he trained me to be an assassin.

And of course I knew that I might have killed people as the pawn. And if I had, I just told myself to help. They were probably the bad guys anyway, but

To take the life of an innocent young girl just proves to me that I’m no better than he was. I’m a monster just like he was.

Jay, I can’t do this, I can’t, there’s gotta be another way! Okay, okay, uh, maybe we could bury you under some coats in the backseat. That is not what I meant and you know it! Oh, you think maybe I could offer you a deal? You’re the DA, of course you could. By letting you off of attempted murder when there’s plenty of evidence against you?

No can do, bro. Not if I want to keep my job. Okay, you just Took over the entire Demera Empire. Why the hell do you want a government job anyway? Because amassing power is the Demera’s raison d’etre, and you know that better than I do. Pity you threw it all away when you shot a cop. Yeah, well, if you’d just helped me out when I asked.

Oh, and there you go again, trying to shift blame to me. Ignoring the fact that you made one calamitous decision after another. One of which almost cost my stepdaughter her life. So you better be damn grateful that I’m even helping you right now. Helping me? Helping me? Don’t you mean helping yourself to everything that is rightfully mine?

This was your idea, Stefan.

You know, I’m sure the guy to whom family is speaking. meant everything is flipping in his grave right now. Mortified that one of his sons could betray another so callously, so cavalierly.

You’re so wrong, Stefan. Because I know, and I think you do too, if you were being honest with yourself. That if father was mortified by this current turn of events, it would be because one of his sons has proven himself to be an absolute failure. A complete embarrassment of the Demeeran name, stain on his legacy.

And he would be so proud of me. For making sure that that stain is banished.

Oh. What? You’re warm. Oh, you might have a fever. I don’t. Yeah, well, you know, you’ve been overdoing it. Maybe your wound’s infected. I don’t know. We need to look. No. I’m just hot for you. You’re funny.

Of course I’m going to the christening, Ms. Frau Farbissina. That’s Dr. Evil’s henchwoman from the Austin Powers movies, in case you didn’t know. Eric invited me. Not to mention, that since I delivered that baby, he has a very special place in my heart. As do I in his, because even in his little undeveloped brain, he knows that he wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for me.

So, I think it is a reasonable request, me wanting to be at his christening. Damn it, Leo. Why? Why do you want to be at this christening so bad? I literally just explained it to you. Jude and I have a special connection. Born out of my having birthed him. That and I am his fairy godfather. Oh, yeah. Well, sure.

I bet you his real godfather’s gonna have something to say about that. Brady, come on. Do you want Leo Stark to be Jude’s godfather? Leo Stark? What? It’s a long story. I don’t even fully understand, but he pretty much appointed himself to the job. Well, uh, whoa, that’s, that’s, that’s creepy, to be honest with you.

But listen, you’re gonna, you’re gonna find another willing candidate to, to do the job besides me. With Leo Stark. Brady, Brady, I don’t want anybody else. Come on, man, you’re my brother. I love you, man. I know you would do anything for your kids. Anything, and I know you will do anything for mine.

I’m gonna ask you again.

Will you please do me the honor of being Chute’s godfather?

You put it like that, and then you I know you’re not gonna back down from this, so Yeah, brother, I’d be honored. I’ll do it. Thank you.

John,

I know all too well the guilt that I felt for doing unthinkable, unspeakable things.

I know how difficult it was for me to forgive myself, even though what I had done was out of my own control. What helped me forgive myself Was your kindness And your support And your empathy

And that’s what you need right now Oh my love, the man that you are today would never do anything so So reckless So dangerous, so

Outside the bounds of the law Well, Doc, that’s where you’re wrong. Because just last week I helped Clyde Weston break out of prison.

Look, we had no choice. It was either help Weston escape or let Tripp and Wendy die. We had no intention of just letting him go. And if we hadn’t put our trust in Ava, things wouldn’t have gone south and he wouldn’t be out there running around free.

Sorry, Doc, that I’ve had to burden you with more knowledge about what I did. I’m relieved to know it. What you’ve been through, what you’ve both been through, dear God. And if anyone else gets killed now that wasn’t out there running around, that’s on me too. At the very least, I need to go to Constantine and apologize.

Not just for the pain that I caused him, But for all the accusations I have made against him. Why? The accusations are true. He’s been trying to fleece Maggie. He’s a grieving father and I’m the reason behind that. I’m telling you, partner, if anyone did that to Bill, what I did to his daughter, I would hunt that bastard down and I would kill him.

And I wouldn’t worry about it for two seconds.

So, Sloan thinks Tate should plead guilty. Right. Because there’s no way to prove that the drugs that Holly OD’d on were hers. Unless she admits it. What do you think she remembers more than she’s saying? I talked to Sarah and she said that after a coma, there can be memory loss. But my son says that Holly’s been doing drugs for weeks before she OD’d.

I mean, she’s gotta remember that, right? Yeah, you think. She’s trying to play it both ways. She also said, maybe somebody, you know, put it in her drink, but nobody’s believing that. They’re believing that my son pushed these drugs on her, and unless she comes clean, which it doesn’t look like she’s going to, everyone’s gonna believe that.

My son is gonna He’s gonna keep paying for a crime that he didn’t commit. What do you mean Jude already has a real godfather? Who? Brady, Eric’s brother, he’s asking him tonight. Brady hasn’t even accepted yet, and you’re acting like it’s a fait accompli? And Eric is procrastinating. Waiting until the last minute is a sign of deep seated doubt.

I read that in my self help book, Stop Fetching and Get a Life. Really? Look, the only reason that Eric procrastinated is because he has a demanding newborn at home, a new job, and Brady’s schedule just wasn’t in alignment. Whatever, whatever. Look, when I come to the christening, I will make sure that Jude’s picture ends up in the spectator, okay?

You can brag to all of your friend that your baby is a celebrity. I am sorry, but my son’s christening is not going to be a part of Lady Whistleblower’s column. It’s a pathetic attempt to humanize you. This isn’t about me. It’s about that little tyke being the most precious boy to ever live. What mother wouldn’t want to show him off?

And need I remind you that if it wasn’t for yours truly, that perfect little boy wouldn’t be in your life? Oh, God. Oh, and you go and make Melinda his godmother for helping you get a baby? And what about me? What am I? Chopped liver? Yes, because Melinda actually helped him get that baby out of the goodness of her heart.

She blackmailed me like some sneaky little optimistic Leo Stark. Well, look, just because I have monetized the situation does not mean that I don’t have a special bond with that boy. My God, when, when I heard that Nicole’s baby went to the hospital and died, I was bereft. I shed actual tears. And then to find out he was alive and he was with you is like an actual miracle.

And a real windfall for you. Cynical much? My god, is it so hard to believe that I actually care about the kid? Well, I do. I have been a part of his life since the second he got here. I don’t think it’s too much to ask that I get a ringside seat at one of the most important moments in his life.

And I’m pretty sure that this is not what the doctor meant when he said veterans. No, this is exactly what the doctor ordered. You

know, we never discussed, uh, specifics. Living situation and expenses. You’re a smart man, I’m sure you’ll figure it out. Oh, and I hope you like borscht. I hear it’s very affordable.

Yeah, well, doesn’t matter anyway, since I’ll be miserable wherever I am without Gabby, so. Oh, how romantic. In a morose sort of way. And if it’s any comfort to you, when she gets out of prison, if she ever does, I’ll let her know where you are, so you can wallow together in your joint misery. Now I’d suggest you get back down to those tunnels before someone sees you.

Harris will surely be back to grill the staff by morning. If not before. Bon voyage, brother.

Yes, it is too much to ask. And damn it, Leo. If you show up to that christening uninvited, I swear I will You know what? Throw me out? Thereby forcing me to announce to all in attendance that you stole that soon to be christened child from Nicole DiMera, his real mother, who thinks he died and still grieves his loss every day?

I’ll see you there. I

know you want to believe Tate, and so do I. I know. Maybe, maybe Holly isn’t right. Maybe she’s just confused. No, look, I know, I know you love Holly. I know you think of her as a daughter. And I, I love her too. And I understand why she wouldn’t want her parents to think that she’s using. But, you have to understand my kid’s in custody, Eric.

And she is putting her selfish needs to get approval from her parents ahead of my kid’s freedom.

What? What are you thinking? I talked to Holly the other day. I also felt like she might be hiding something. I just, I didn’t want to push too hard. I’ll talk to her again, I promise. You understand anything that you could do, I mean, I would be very grateful. Brady, this is all about family. I know you’d do the same for Jude.

John. I’m so sorry I didn’t tell you about what happened in Aria with Constantine and that poor girl. But like I told Marlena, I blocked it out myself for a long time.

And I just didn’t know how you’d react.

I think you knew exactly how I would react.

No more talk. About turning yourself in until you’ve had time to really think about it. No, no, no. Promise me. Promise me.

Fine.

I love you. Don’t forget that part. Are

you sure that this is what the doctor ordered? Yes. In fact, I may need a refill on this prescription. Sure. I

missed you. God, I missed you too.

Um, I’m gonna go get you. You have pain meds and you haven’t got it. And I will be right back.

I need to talk to you. I really need your help. This is not a good time. You need to go. Well, what do you know?

My would be assassin. He’s not going anywhere.

Hey Justin, what’s the news? No, I can talk. I’m just, I just finished my rounds. Oh my god! Okay, I’ll be right there.

I still don’t understand what happened, but who cares? This is the best day ever. No transplant list, no surgery, you’re going home soon. It’s a true miracle. Now, having you all here for me, now, that made all the difference too. We wouldn’t have had it any other way. And bonus, we got to see Eli and Lonnie.

Even if it did take you almost dying to get them here. Just seeing Lonnie free, when the twins, they got so big. All the four of them, they’re one big happy family again. Oh, it just warms my heart. Now, I just have to work on getting the FBI headquarters moved here to Salem. So, Eli can work locally. Well, good luck with that.

Abraham Carvel, you wouldn’t be underestimating me now, would you?

I really need to talk to you. I really need your help. This is not a good time. You need to go. Now! Well, what do you know? I would be a sassy.

And you’re not going anywhere. You would be Stefan lured me to the loading dock. Made me believe that I got a text from you. And when I got there, he shot me twice at close range. Just about as close as we are right now. You shot him? Ava, you know Clyde. He didn’t really give me a choice. You bastard! You bastard!
