[ Laughs ] So then my mom launches into this 30-minute, totally inspired speech, free legal advice on concealed weapons. And that was before the cassadine contingent showed up. Wait. So the davis branch of your family… we’re the sane ones. Completely. Yeah. The cassadines? Everything you have heard about them… the truth is so much worse.

[ Laughs ] Wow.

Well, look, the way I see it, knowledge is power, and the more we know, the better shot we have of staying alive and the better shot we have of taking these guys down. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. His name is john brennan. And he was in field ops around the same time as me and forsyth. “Was.” What is he doing now? Is he still around? Oh, yeah. He’s the current director of the wsb. Well, as luck would have it… mm-hmm. Port charles is pretty security-conscious. We’re a major center for commercial shipping, medicine — crime. Yeah. That too. I mean, you’ll have plenty of business to jump on. How about you? What about me? Do you feel safe here? Security-wise? Yeah. Sure. But… what? I don’t live what one would call a typical life. Yeah, I’m not surprised. There’s nothing typical about you. It’s that obvious, huh? Despite the single mother, small business owner exterior, you give off a distinctly unconventional vibe. And I would very much like to get to know you better.

I don’t think you’re giving tracy enough credit. I think she has an adventurous streak. Oh, she definitely has an adventurous streak. I mean, anyone who flees the country as much as she did to avoid prosecution has a sense of adventure. Not to mention she was married to luke spencer. Ah, yes. I read about him in lucy coe’s book. Quite the adventurer himself. Exactly my point. Would tracy jump out of a plane to avoid capture from either the authorities or the underworld? Easily. But would she jump out of a plane for amusement?

[ Exhales heavily ] Oh, well. Only one way to find out, I suppose. Oh, I’m not trying to be a party pooper. I mean, go ahead and ask her. I just don’t want you to get your hopes up because this is a big ask for tracy. It appears to be too big an ask for everyone. No. That’s not true. What about chase? Chase would do it, but brook lynn would age 30 years waiting for him to land. How about finn? Eh, single parent. Violet has to come first. Oh, well. Maybe this will be the one item I won’t be able to check off my bucket list.

So, thank you. Esme… …I needed spencer to know my feelings. To be clear, I didn’t do it for you. Oh, I never assumed that you did. I just — I asked spencer to let go for his own good. I love spencer, and I intend to have a future with him. But he was trying to be a father to ace, not a brother. And it was getting in our way. I figured it was something like that. But even still, you have been patient and even polite to me, which can’t be easy, given everything I did to you. Don’t you mean the old esme? I have come to realize that even if I never remember what happened — all the things that I did to you and to josslyn and to cameron — I have to take responsibility for my actions, past and present. So I wanted to thank you. You do? But also I want to apologize for everything that I put you through. And I know that it is too little, too late, but I really hope that it’s not nothing. And that maybe someday you’ll manage to even forgive me. Who knows? We might even end up as friends. Esme… that will never happen. I’m happy to get to know you as a customer. Ouch. [ Laughs ] Well, whoever this guy is, he doesn’t seem to know how good he’s got it. He does. And so do I. Is this someone you’re seeing, uh, donna’s father. Different someone. Donna’s father and I are divorced. Mm. His loss. Okay. Since you’re gonna be a regular, what can I get you to eat?

Okay, what I know about you — you like to run. Mm. You like burgers. You work in security. Yeah. What else? Well, I can think of at least one more thing that you know about me. What? [ Cellphone ringing ] Ah! Sorry. I have to take this. I’ll see you again soon. Brennan took over as the head of the wsb when frisco was ousted. But when we were part of that failed operation, he was stationed in london, where he provided remote support and logistics for us. Um, forsyth was a field agent. I was basically a courier. It was my job to pose as the defector’s girlfriend and get him across the border, which didn’t happen because he got caught and killed. And then the other part is that the money that was allocated to buy the defector’s cooperation — that just was never recovered. So, what does the bureau think happened to all that money? I think they chalk it up to intelligence failure. I mean, it’s all here, like, the dates and the locations and the agents that were involved. That’s why I kept a copy, just in case somebody decided down the line that they were gonna pin this screw-up on me. So, brennan’s now in charge, forsyth is dead after going to great lengths to try and get his hands on that report. There’s got to be something in it worth hiding. I guess brennan just rose up through the ranks and that would have given him more and more clearance and eventually he would have access to his own records and he would have seen a copy of this report. Right, but now, in his new position, he can’t be implicated in the death of a defector and $10 million gone missing. That’s a lot of money. Yeah. If we’re right about this, then brennan wants to eliminate any and all traces of this report. And anyone who knows about it.

Dante: Hey. Uh, yeah, I got a positive id on that third picture. Guy’s name is john brennan, director of the wsb. Yeah, I don’t know, maybe want to find out general information about him, news releases, that kind of thing, anything that would tell us who he is and who he’s connected to. Thanks, sam. Yeah, you be careful, too. Alright. Okay, so, safe to assume that this guy is in good standing with the other bureaus — fbi, cia. Oh, yeah. Yeah, he was always super slick. Okay, so, who do we give this report to? Brennan wasn’t incriminated, but we know he’s involved somehow. Forsyth was incriminated, and he’s dead. Okay, so, what we need is something that ties brennan to the defector’s assassination. Like, possibly if we could find out anything on that missing money, that would help. We might have that. I found this in the locker with the report. What is it? What do you think those numbers are? It’s 21 digits. Alright, so, that is the exact number needed for a swiss bank account. Maybe that’s where the missing money is. Well, I don’t know that it would be where it is, but it could be where it went. And then that might lead us to whoever the person is that’s responsible for the botched operation. We got to stash this evidence somewhere where brennan can’t get to it. I know someone that we can call. There is too a santa. Yes, violet, of course there is. Leo, why would you say such a thing? Because it’s scientifically impossible for one man to visit every house in the world in a single night. When daddy orders food off his phone, it comes in 30 minutes or less. With technology, anything is possible. But santa didn’t have the internet 100 years ago. And even if santa visited every house in the world for one second, that would still be between one and two billion seconds. Santa would have to bend the space-time continuum to do so. So it’s impossible for there to be a santa claus. Uncle chase, is it true? Is santa impossible? Brook lynn, why don’t you and chase take leo shopping? I got this. Are you sure?

[ Chuckles ] You asked me to trust you as my manager. Can you trust me? Yeah, sure.

[ Chuckles ] Just don’t entice her into a rock-and-roll lifestyle. Oh…

[ Chuckles ] Let’s go. Leo, come on. Let’s go. Alright, violet. Here’s the skinny on santa. The truth is… leo’s right. Essentially, you’re starting from scratch. Realistically, the soonest you can expect successful implantation is six months, and that’s if the surrogate gets pregnant in the first implantation. Is there, um… is — is there anything you can do to expedite things? I’m sorry. As you already know, it’s a painstaking process with strict procedures that need to be followed every step of the way. Yeah. We understand. We just, um… let ourselves get carried away. Hold it. You don’t have to defenestrate your skydiving ambition just yet. I see what you did there. Alexis, the time is coming when I am going to be trapped in my own body, unable to put thoughts into words with my mouth or my hands or at all. Essentially, I’m going to be alone with my thoughts and memories for the rest of a short, difficult life. Now, if that’s the way I’m gonna go, then I want my still-active, still-alert brain to be overflowing with memories and experiences that I shared with people I love, experiences that they can tell my kids and my grandkids about when I can’t, either because I’m unable to or because I’m gone.

very possible. Like santa? Exactly. And here’s how I know. When I was young and learning how to sing, my voice teacher told me it was too hard for me to hit a high C. Said I didn’t have the pipes. But with a little belief in myself and a lot of practice…

now I can sing as high as birds can fly not so impossible after all, huh? I want to learn to sing just like you. Maybe I’ll ask santa for singing lessons. Well, why ask santa when I’m right here? I’m so embarrassed. Molly, you’re hardly the first person to become emotional in this office. I know, but I’m not those people. I’m — I’m me. I don’t do this. [ Exhales sharply ] So, how do you feel? How do you feel about starting over? My first impulse is, you know, full speed ahead. But now that you’ve had a second? This is a long and arduous process. And not just for us. I mean, kristina’s ready to go now. Yeah. She’s going to have to wait, too. And if what happened with andrea happens with kristina… you’re right. We need to both be ready to — to go through all of this again. Not to mention the expense, which is another emotional toll. I was so appreciative of your mom offering to help us the first time, but I am not comfortable asking her again. No. Me neither. So I guess we’re on our own. Can — can — can we even do this? Hey. Hey, we’re gonna figure this out. Even if it means we have to do some budgeting, we’re gonna figure it out. You know, it just kills me. A month ago, our dream was on its way to happening. Now, as soon as I connected anna to falconeri, my people back-traced his movements. Yesterday he visited a bank where he rented a safe deposit box. Hours earlier, he was at a train station locker. Security footage shows him retrieving a small package. So that’s where forsyth stashed the report. Now that falconeri has it… anna does, too.

Right, so, my interpolcontact should be here shortly, and then we’ll give them the evidence. We will make sure the bureau does not get it. And certainly not brennan. Yeah, we make sure we secure that report, and then we go after brennan himself. Yeah. Wherever he is. So, what do you need me to do? Neutralize the cop and retrieve the report, if he has it with him. Then make sure there are no physical or digital copies. What do you want me to do about anna devane? Is that the guy you’re investigating? Yeah. He’s the new head of the wsb. Really? Because he told me he was a security consultant. Wait a minute. Do you know him?

[ Sighs ] I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to unload in your office. Let me get to that article. Don’t worry about the article. We’ll run a horoscope. Don’t we already have one of those? If you’re asking if our brother’s still a suspect, he is. And a winnie-the-pooh for amelia. Yeah, that’s a big list. We got a big family. Yeah, we do. What kind of hat is that? -It’s a cap. That’s not a baseball cap. No, no, it’s a different kind of cap. My dad loved that cap. And after your grandfather died, I kept it. Can I see it? Uh, it’s — it’S… I think it’s lost and I tried looking for it and I even asked your mom if it was in your house, and she said it’s gone.

[ Knock on door ] I’ll bet that’s your brother. Let’s go see. -Hi, michael. -Hey. -Thank you for coming. -Yeah. Of course. I hear we’re doing a little christmas shopping. Yeah, she’s got a big list of people she wants to buy presents for. I’ll text it to you. Aren’t you coming with us, daddy? I wish I could, but I got an important, you know, appointment. But I tell you what. You go with michael. I’ll meet you there. Is that good? -It’s a deal. -Yeah? I really appreciated the grand gesture. I did. Really. But come on, we’re not in school. [ Chuckling ] Yes, you did. And for the record, I only exaggerate in court. Ah. Well, then, let the record show, counselor, that we both enjoyed ourself. You know, cyrus did tell me that you went to go see him. I did. It was a very unsettling meeting. His — his passionate commitment to his family — well, to our family — you found yourself wanting to believe in him. Does that happen to you? More often I care to admit. Our brother’s a very complicated man. He’s ruthless, manipulative, but he is doggedly loyal. I mean, he always goes about it the wrong way, but he’ll never give up on family, ever, which is something he has in common with you I’ve noticed of late. That’s true. I don’t give up on family. But I don’t turn a blind eye, either. I mean, if — if cyrus killed dr. Gatlin-holt, he must be prosecuted. Indeed. Far be it for me to give old cy the benefit of the doubt, but I’ll tell you this. There’s nothing on this earth that he values more than your good opinion. Now, got released from prison. Got himself a chance to prove himself to you. Why would he throw that away? Tj stopped by my office last night to tell me that he and molly are trying for another baby, this time with kristina as the surrogate. I assume you already knew? Yeah, the girls told me about it yesterday. Well, I’ll be honest. I don’t know how I feel about this. Obviously, I’m excited about the possibility of having a grandchild. And I imagine that you are, as well? Oh, ver– very much. But, you know, this just all came a little bit out of the blue for me. I talked to tj about it, so I know how he feels, and I’m sure you know how molly feels. But I’d like to know what you think about this. Okay, you sent me a cryptic text saying you had big news. Then you went completely silent. You didn’t answer any of my texts or calls. Sorry, I should have — I should have answered you. It’s okay. I was just worried something happened to you. No, the day just got away from me. And it’s not something I wanted to share over text or even on the phone, really. Well, I’m here now. You can tell me in person. What’s your big news? I’m going to have a baby. Last chance to identify yourself. Otherwise… I’m going to have to assume that you’re a secret admirer who doesn’t want… …me to know who they are. Or… …you’re one of my many enemies… …and this present is somehow booby trapped and I will be forced to destroy it.

[ Both chuckle ] Alright, you kind of scared me. Knew that would get you out.

[ Sighs ] Well, you may have a secret admirer, but this gift is from me. And, no, it’s not booby trapped. Can I open it now, or do I have to wait till christmas? It’s up to you. You’re coming back to deception? Why? -I have my reasons. -Oh, well, please clue me in. Because the first time you came to work for deception, it was so I could be closer to bailey lou. Thanks for that, by the way. Still super grateful. You’re welcome. And the second time was to spy for tracy. Not really a high point in our friendship, but I’m moving past it. You’re a music manager now, brook lynn, and you love that job. Why come back to deception? So I can gain control of the company and give it to you.

[ Chuckles ] It is pretty ironic that my trip there will be as a photo shoot. Last thing I ever thought I’d be is a model. Oh, don’t sell yourself short. You’re really getting the hang of it. Yeah? Well, you’re the expert, but I think that these rock formations and i will just be backdrop for… your beauty to shine. Thanks for coming. I know it was a very last-minute invitation. Well, I know when you ask to see me that it’s important. I’m not sure it’s a good idea to do it here. Uh, well, I’ve been to your office. It only seems fair that I should welcome you to mine. Yeah, yeah, well, what matters is the public perception of what you do. Yeah, but, sonny, if I’ve learned one thing since becoming the mayor, it’s that people are going to talk about me regardless. Yeah, yeah, I get it. But we both know that I have a reputation in this town. And by you publicly inviting me to your office, it opens you up to allegations of corruption. Yeah, if somebody wants to investigate me for something or any part of my life, I don’t care. I don’t have anything to hide. Please don’t worry about that. I have no intentions of losing my office. But speaking of investigations, that’s why I’ve asked you here. I’d like to talk to you about the austin gatlin-holt murder case. Alright, donna. We should get going. If we’re going to get all the presents on your list, you better get started. [ Chuckles ] I mean, that’s what I’ve heard. What if there are no stars to wish on? Oh, no, there’s always stars. Yeah, you can see them better at night when it’s dark outside, but there’s stars during the daytime, too. Do you have to see a star to wish on it? No no, no. Stars know you made a wish whether you can see them or not. Okay, I’m going to make a wish. Alright, go for it. Star, it’s me, donna corinthos. I can’t see you, but my brother says you’ll know I made this wish I’m wishing on you that I can find grandpa mike’s cap for daddy. I’m very happy at the thought of molly and tj having a baby. We are in agreement on this. Then I started to make a list of everything that could go wrong and how this could potentially end in tragedy. Then I spoke with a friend of mine and he shifted my perspective into a more positive place, tried to calm me down. And, boy, being a parent is challenging, isn’t it? -Mm. [ Chuckles ] -And rewarding. Yeah, it’s been the hardest and best thing I’ve ever done. Same. Proud of my three — three girls and I-I love being a parent and I want molly and tj to have that experience. And kristina wants to give it to them. I agree. I think it’s an amazing gift that kristina’s offering them, but does it have to happen right now? So, molly and — and tj decided they wanted to have a baby, and they were super excited about it. But molly found out she can’t physically carry a child of her own. It was awful, and it completely blindsided her. That’s terrible. Of course it did. So they started looking into all of their options, and they felt really good about surrogacy. And they found this woman that they both really liked. And she got pregnant, but then she lost the baby. It was devastating. I can only imagine. I’m so sorry. I was walking through the park and I saw my sister, my super controlled, type a sister just absolutely bawling in a public place, not caring who was there or who saw. And it just — I mean, it just broke my heart. I’m assuming that you — you might know where I’m going with this. Yeah, I-I do. It just became really clear to me that I — I genuinely, really want to do this. I want to give molly and tj the thing that they want more than anything in this whole world. I can’t really tell what you’re thinking right now. Are you about to tell me that I’m crazy for doing this? Crazy? No, I, um… I think you’re wonderful and generous. And anyone would be lucky to have a sister like you, but… I mean, you’ve talked a lot about being able to give molly what she wants. What about what you want?

Thank you for the perfect gift. I feel terrible that I don’t have something for you. Cody, you already saved my life and my sanity. You’ve given me the best gift I could have ever asked for. Sasha, stop. Don’t say that. I know everything that happened because of me spying for my grandmother put you in a really bad place financially. Okay, I can’t deny that. But tracy forced you to do it, so it wasn’t really your fault. Well, tracy told me that the reason why she got control of deception was to give it to me. And at first, I rejected her offer, but I just told her that I changed my mind. So the plan is, I will start working here again, and I will convince her that I’m grateful for the opportunity. And then — then what? What are you plotting? Well, the next part of the plan is still a work in progress. But I will either convince tracy into signing over control to me, or I will blackmail her into doing it. Either way, I will not stop until deception belongs to you. So what do you think? Oh-ho-ho-ho. Who let the spy back in? Kind of sounds like you’re not so sure I should do this. No, that’s not what I’m saying. But there’s a big difference between wanting to help your sister and wanting to be pregnant for nine months and give birth to a child. I mean, one is seeing molly hurting and generously wanting to help. The second is a huge commitment and life-changing event. Well, I know that no one can for sure know how their body is going to handle a pregnancy, but I just — I’m in great health, and the odds are never going to be higher for me than right now to get pregnant and deliver a healthy baby successfully. And I know it sounds so weird to say this, but even when I’m saying it out loud to you right now, I just — I know in my gut that I’m just — I’m supposed to do this. So, yeah, you’re right. I am doing this for molly and for tj, but… …I’m also doing this for me. How are we going to refer to each other moving forward? What do you mean? Well, when I gossip about last night with alexis — and, fyi, I’m gonna.

[ Chuckles ] Noted. How shall I refer to you? Are you my boyfriend? Well, boyfriend? You know, gray hair, long in the tooth. No, I don’t think anyone’s boyfriend. Okay. That seems to indicate that money may have changed hands somewhere along the line. -[ Laughs ] No, no. Can’t we just say we’re involved? Well, I’d like it to be a little more definitive. Um, alright, how about we’re just dating? Because that’s, after all, what we’re doing. Dating’s good. Good. Good. -Are we dating exclusively? -[ Sighs ] I know you’re aware that dante is assisting the pautuck pd in its investigation of the murder. Yeah, dante and i agreed a long time ago, uh, for the sake of our relationship, not to discuss his work. -Or yours. -Right. We try to avoid any conflict of interest. Except that I do know that you spoke to dante at some point about austin. Why’s that? Well, because I asked dante to give me an update about the murder investigation, and he told me that a reliable and confidential source had informed him that austin and his cousin mason were working for my brother cyrus. Really? Look, your son wouldn’t give up his source, but I know it’s you.

Oh-ho-ho, you have some nerve stepping foot back into deception. You know what? I should have you arrested for industrial espionage. Or maybe intellectual property theft. No, no, no, lucy. It’s okay. Brook lynn is here because — here? Here? Because why? Because you want to sniff around some more to find some more proprietary information to steal from us? It’s not stealing if you have a controlling interest in the company, which my grandmother does. -Oh, your grandmother tracy… -yes. …Doesn’t care about this company. She doesn’t care about deception, but I do, and she needs to keep her filthy hands away from here. And you need to stay away from here, too. It doesn’t matter what you think. Tracy’s 51% says I have more of a right to be here than you. Okay, okay. You don’t need to thank me. I’m happy. I’m happy that, for once, I was able to get out of my own way and do the right thing. Trust me, that isn’t always the case. Cody, I don’t care about what happened in your past. I am just thankful for the man that you are now, and I am so grateful that you were able to come to my rescue. I don’t want your gratitude. Okay. Look, what I mean to say is, sasha, there’s a fine line between being grateful to someone and feeling an obligation towards them. I don’t want you to owe me, I want you to like me. You already know that I do. You heard me say it to maxie. Yeah. And I also heard you say that you’re not ready to move on yet. You’re still grieving over the loss of your husband and your child. The last thing that would be okay for me is for you to rush through that process because you’re trying to give me something that you — you think I want. Well, we got a lot of presents. You ready to take a break? But we don’t have all the presents yet. Well, we got a lot. Don’t you want to save some to buy with your dad? But what about daddy’s presents? What do I give him if my wish doesn’t come true? Well, you see, donna, um, sometimes wishes don’t come true exactly the way you expect because wishes are magic, and magic is, you know, unpredictable. So how about we find a backup gift just in case? Michael, look. Sonny, I didn’t ask you here to put you on the spot. I asked you here because I trust you. I need to know. Did cyrus kill dr. Gatlin-holt? Laura, I think that’s for the police to figure out. Oh, come on. Come on. You’re in a position to know things before other people do. I’m asking you, is my brother a murderer? Your brother cyrus has murdered in the past, and I don’t for one second believe his religious reformation. But… I don’t think cyrus killed austin gatlin-holt. Except that dante said that dr. Gatlin-holt went to see him the night that he was killed, and he was prepared to give up the name of his boss. Did he give up that name? No, he didn’T. He left. Supposedly, he had to go gather proof. So you think that cyrus had austin killed to shut him up? Don’t you? I like my women. I like commitment. -[ Chuckles ] One woman at a time. Okay, well, I’m well aware of that. I’m well aware of your exceptional commitment to the women in your life. I’ve witnessed it firsthand. Any time holly or anna need you, you’re right there. Well, we got a lot of history together. I can’t change that. And they would do the same for me. I get it. However, moving forward, if I’m to be exclusive with you, I need to know that I’m your number-one priority.

I don’t see how cyrus could have known that austin was talking to dante. Cyrus has no money, no manpower to keep austin under surveillance. And I don’t think for a second that dante leaked out the information. -No, no, he wouldn’t do that. -Right. So if cyrus didn’t know, he has no motive to kill austin. As a matter of fact, it’s the opposite, because austin helped him get out of prison. So he sees austin as an asset. That makes sense. And if cyrus thought that austin was a problem, there’s other ways to deal with him. Murder is too risky. With all due respect, I despise your brother… …but he’s not stupid. He just got out of prison, and he’s going to do everything he can not to go back there. Thank you, sonny. It’s really been weighing on me, the kind of man that my brother is.

[ Sighs ] It’s just a huge relief to me to know that you don’t think he killed dr. Gatlin-holt. Listening to you talk about your decision, it’s really inspiring. I don’t know if I’ve ever done anything this selfless, this profound. Making me sound like a saint.

[ Both chuckle ] Billions of women have given birth successfully, and I’m sure it is as big and scary as it seems, but…I don’t know. I just — I feel like I can do this. I’ve got this. You may not feel the same way when you’re in labor. Well, I plan to be in excellent physical condition and to prepare for every scenario. And when I go into labor, I plan to ask for all the drugs.

[ Laughs ] Thank you for being so supportive. I know this is not exactly traditional. I meant what I said. I’m in awe of you for wanting to do this. I really appreciate you being so understanding about this, because I’m really committed to this pregnancy and it’s a big change in my life. And for me and you. I mean, if there is A…me and you. In a perfect world, yes, it would be better for them to wait six months or a year or longer for kristina to become a surrogate. So we’re on the same page, then? Yes, except the timeline is problematic in that we’re assuming kristina is going to get pregnant right away. And you and i both know that doesn’t always happen like that. Mm. True. None of this is a perfect science. Kristina’s very committed to doing this, but it also isn’t fair to ask her to put her life on hold for another year or longer, waiting to get pregnant. I can’t argue with that. The bottom line is, you and i don’t get a vote on this. All three of them are adults. Molly and tj want this baby, and they want this baby as soon as possible. And we just don’t get to tell them to wait. You don’t know half the horrible, horrible things that tracy has done. She has blackmailed so many people, she could fill out an entire punch card. Oh, like you’re so perfect. You’ve been known to scam rich men out of their money. You also secretly plotted to get valentin in control of elq. And — and how many times have you cheated on the loves of your life, huh? Lots. Enjoyed it all. I’ve made mistakes. I never said I didn’T. The fact of the matter is, I created deception, and my vision is what made deception successful. And you almost ran it into the ground, almost bankrupting you and maxie, too. Because of you! No! Because of you! She has been nothing but loyal and hardworking. You shouldn’t be mad at tracy. You should be thanking her for stepping in and saving you and deception. You take as much time as you need. You’re dealing with enough in your life without me putting any pressure on you. And, hey, if all we ever are is just friends and co-models, then that’s good with me, too. -Really? -Yeah. I promise. Okay, well, as your friend, you are obligated to listen to me. -Oh, am I? -Mm-hmm. Absolutely. And you need to stop being so hard on yourself. You’re not nearly as bad as you seem to want to believe. In fact, most of the time, you’re… you’re pretty great.

I will never, ever thank your grandmother tracy for anything. Never thank you. Certainly not. ‘Cause guess what? All that matters is maxie. And you know the big sacrifice I made when I took tracy’s deal to keep deception solvent. I do, and you know I appreciate that. I am so grateful for my job. Well, since tracy owns this company, and my grandmother wants me here, I’m staying. Yippie. Suit yourself. Maxie… this [Clears throat] Is your problem now because I will never, ever, ever deal with someone who flat-out lied to my face and spied on me.

[ Sighs ] Well, I wasn’t expecting that to go well, but I certainly wasn’t expecting, um, that. Yeah, that — that was a lot.

[ Sighs ] It’s okay. I’m a big girl. I can handle it. And you know what? Let lucy go take it up with tracy. We both know my grandmother will flatten her. I don’t understand. Why would you want that? Before lucy came in here, you were — you were telling me you were going to get the company back for us. I’m getting the company back for you, maxie. Only you. Promise me that, when I finally get this done, you will have sole control over the company. Look, I want you to be able to run this company the way that you want. You know, away from all of lucy’s crazy shenanigans. Okay, um, I think we’re getting a little bit ahead of ourselves. Why don’t we get control of the company, and then we’ll figure out how to divide it up? Oh, we’ll get control of this company. You know I’m right. Because when you and i join forces, we are unstoppable. I actually bought you a gift a few weeks ago. It’s the, uh, very first time in my life I’ve ever planned ahead, but when I saw it, I knew I had to get it for you. Well, now I’m intrigued. Oh, as you should be. Yeah, they promised it would be here before christmas, and I’m counting on them to come through. Did I ever tell you that I am very bad at waiting for something I’m excited about? [ Sighs ] Kristina: I like you, and I don’t want this to end. I know this is early. If you want to bow out now before I am the size of a house… -[ Chuckles ] -…Feel free. I think you will look amazing when you’re pregnant. But I always think you look amazing. Including right now. I — I like you, and I like what’s happening between us. And I don’t want to cut it short… …before it has a chance to become something. I… I still am interested in seeing where this goes. I like you, too. And now I’m actually really glad you woke me up early. -Okay, early? -[ Chuckles ] You do realize I’m a musician, and even I’ve been up for hours. Ah, just my luck. I find myself the only singer who’s an early riser.

[ Laughs ] Well, this singer is about to be late for a run-through with her choreographer. Oh. Yeah. But let’s touch base. Maybe we’ll meet up later. I mean, we need to celebrate your decision with some wine before you have to give up alcohol for nine months. Oh, god.

[ Breathes deeply ] The kids are going to be fantastic parents. They’re going to love the hell out of that baby, and that baby’s lucky to have them. I know, and I can’t wait to see them holding my first grandchild. So I will try to adjust my thinking and get on board, like you. If this is what they want, and they are adamant that it is, then I will do my best to support it. Holly came to town largely to save ethan’s life. Now, it would have been remiss of me not to step in and help her. Not to mention honor luke’s memory. I get it. That was a special circumstance. I’ll never appreciate the way she went about it, but she was desperate, I understand. What about anna? Anna and i are connected through robin and the grandkids. I mean, that’s never going to change. They’re family. But it hasn’t stopped me getting closer to you and enjoying every minute of it. I’ve enjoyed every minute of it, too. All of that aside, I just need to know that the next time holly drops into port charles with some emergency or anna calls when you and I are together, things will be different. -Understood. The next time someone — one of my exes needs assistance, I’m going to have to point out that you’re my priority. Then here’s to our well-negotiated, hard-earned agreement, mr. Scorpio. You are worth it. That’s right.

Sonny corinthos was just here, at my invitation, and I asked him straight up if he thought cyrus murdered dr. Gatlin-holt, and he said he didn’t think so. And right at that moment, I could feel the knot in my chest sort of melt away. I don’t know, it was, I guess, surprising for me to realize how much I don’t want him to be guilty. I do want him to turn his life around. Do you think it’s possible? Well, a hell of a lot more possible now that he’s got you to live up to. How is the shopping going? I didn’t shop for your present. I wished for it. Really? Show him, donna. This is for you. This, uh… this is mike’S. Yeah, donna found it. It was sitting right there like someone left it. -Really? -Yeah. -Can’t believe that. -Yeah, neither can I. I mean, we — we asked around to see if anyone lost a hat, but — and when I checked it, it’s actually — it’s mike’s cap. I wonder where it came from. I told you, daddy, I wished for it on a star. [ Both chuckle ] Uh, don’t worry abo–

[ Groans ] It’s fine. I was returning e-mails. Don’t worry. I’ll last through the holidays. Aunt stella. Hey.

[ Sniffs ] Is that what I think it is? Is… chicken and dumplings? It sure is. Have you had your dinner? A while ago, but mind if I join you anyway? Oh, sure, baby. Sit down. Okay. Something on your mind? Sorry, guys. There she is. Hi. What took you so long? Parking. But you look very cute. Hi, daddy. Hi. Mwah! Glad you made it. Glad I got invited. So, are we celebrating something special? Yes. Me. Well, here’s what we’re celebrating. She got a good report card.

[ Gasps ] And what happened is, the teacher in the last quarter said that, uh, she was talking too much to the other kids. Oh. Motor-mouth syndrome. Yeah. I remember it well. Remember I used to get all those comments on my report card all the time. Okay, so, how did you manage to turn things around and score a fancy dinner at the metro court?

[ Whispers ] I talk less. Thanks for waiting. Mm-hmm. Avery’s all settled in and sleeping. I really appreciate you picking her up from dance class. I’ve been so busy with this move, you know? Uh, yeah, I had to drop donna off at sonny’s for dinner, so it wasn’t a problem to grab avery. And I’m glad we stopped by kelly’s, ’cause she was really hungry — and tired. Right. Yeah, that’s a good call. Thank you. Oh, and thank you for the burger. I’ll — I’ll heat that up later.

[ Sighs ] Well, I’m sure glad that — that she was able to stop and get something to eat so she could just pass out when she got home. Home. Here. Again. I anticipated that she’d have some adjustments to make, you know, but so far, she’s been quite a trouper. Well, she’s moved around a lot. What about you? Well, moving is so stressful, right? Even under the best of circumstances. But you’re worried about something. And it has nothing to do with moving back here. Oh! It really feels like christmas when we put out the donation bins. One of my favorite things about the holidays. People take time to be extra generous and kind. Your recommended treatment plan is spot on, doctor. Thank you. [ Sighs ] I’m tired of being the “little sister.” When are you and nina gonna have a baby?

[ Clears throat ] There’s just so much going on. You know, moving out of wyndemere, getting this place organized again. And I have a major gallery opening coming up first of the year, and, of course, the artist hasn’t delivered all the pieces yet. Life of a busy single mom. You know all about that. I do. I also know that you’ll find a way and you’ll make it through. Well, you’re right. You’re right. Thank you, carly. Here’s the thing. You’ve just been rambling on about all the things you’re handling. But you never once mentioned that your boyfriend was murdered. I can’t believe that’s the same sad, little tree that violet picked out at rice plaza. Violet really took our words to heart. Well, your words, right? “Perfection is the enemy of good.” Yes, but you clarified it for her and said that she should look for something special and unique, and so she picked out the saddest-looking tree on the lot. And we took it home and gave it some love, and look at it. It’s — it’s beautiful. It’s transformed. Oh, and everybody looks so happy. Even the tree. The whole family pitched in. Even finn? I find it hard to believe he’d be the beacon of christmas cheer. Well, he is when he’s around violet. I mean, he wasn’t exactly “ho-ho-ho,” but he was radiating joy. And then violet sang a song that she wrote, and chase accompanied her on the guitar. That sounds incredible. Oh, and there’s even more. Got big news. What’s up? Chase and brook lynn are getting married. Well, now you buried the lede.

[ Laughs ] Congratulations. Thank you. Can you believe it? I was so worried that chase would never forgive me for not telling him about my diagnosis or that he’d be so devastated that he couldn’t be around me. And look at us now. We are the literal picture of family unity.

[ Chuckles ] I’m really happy for you. I love them all so much. Finn has violet, and he and elizabeth are… finding their way back to each other. Chase has his true love, brook lynn, by his side. And they’re all so happy. I-I… I couldn’t wish for more. I just got out of the O.R. I grabbed something before I — before I went in.

[ Gasps ] You sure you’re not hungry? Aunt stella, you — you didn’t have to. You… well, I can take it back home. No. No, ma’am, please. Hand that over.

[ Laughs ] Thank you. I know this used to be your favorite. Mmm! It still is. Don’t tell molly, okay? I’m good with the veganism, but this will always be my definition of comfort food. Nobody makes chicken and dumplings like you. Actually, irene made it better than I do. It was our grandma’s recipe, and we had to promise to guard it with our lives.

Amy, amy, amy, this is something that the lawyers need to be figuring out. We shouldn’t even be discussing this. And it certainly shouldn’t be a topic of any sort of hospital gossip. I’m gonna need you to do something for me, please. Just exercise a little discretion. Understood? Thank you.

[ Exhales deeply ] I hate to run, but, uh, monica wants to see me. Oh. Maybe that’s a good thing. Maybe she’s lifting the requirement that you have to have your treatment plans signed off on. Or maybe the hospital’s decided to revoke my privileges altogether.

[ Elevator bell dings ] Wish me luck.

Monica: Come in. Hey. Your assistant said you were expecting me. Yes. Have a seat. Okay.

[ Sighs ] Hi. Wasn’t expecting to see you here. I’m here representing the hospital board. They want a recommendation regarding the lawsuit. Oh. A recommendation. Whether to go through a trial, hoping to disprove the muldoons’ claim of negligence or whether they should make a separate settlement. Ah! Which would make you the sole defendant. That’s quite a question. What brought that on? I’ll explain, but I would like to hear your answer first. Alright. But that’s not the first time this question was brought up. And the answer is still “never.” I never regretted moving in with my sister and the boys.

[ Chuckles ] Don’t get me wrong, now. Of course, I dabbled in the fantasies of “what if.” But they were just fantasies and can’t compare to the life that I’ve lived. And a life I’m proud of. Your grandmother irene and I, we — we shared a deep bond. So, shoot, there’s no question I’d step in and help out. I’m proud. I’m proud to have helped raise thomas and curtis. They’re my nephews, but I love them like my own. Just like I will always love you and will always be your biggest fan and do whatever I can for you… including sneaking you some chicken and dumplings. [Chuckling] Thinking of having a baby? No, no, that’s not — you know, that’s not in the cards for a lot of reasons. I’m very satisfied with the kids that I have. So is nina. So you are my forever young child. But you’re not a baby. Okay, then. But let me tell you something. Being a-a-a young child is — means you’re special. She was the youngest for a while, right, kristina? Yeah. I was the youngest. I was the middle. And being the youngest is definitely the best.

[ Giggles ] Thank you. So, how are things with nina? We’re settling in, except that, you know, she’s buying the christmas gifts, it’s making her crazy.

[ Chuckles ] Aw.Aw, don’t — don’t tell her I said that. But, uh, her and willow are doing — are doing good. Good. Yeah. And what about you and michael? Yeah, we’re doing better. Um, but her and michael are not that great. Sorry. I think things will warm up, though. Any issues going on — it’s probably just, you know, protectiveness and loyalty. by austin’s death. He was murdered. And so violently. I-I pray his killer is soon caught and — and behind bars. I guess I don’t talk about it because it’s so upsetting. And it’s complicated. And, yes, austin and i were seeing each other, but — but it was sort of transitional, carly. I mean, I don’t mean to sound callous, but I really don’t know what to make of how I feel now or how I felt about austin. Have the police questioned you? Why would they? I didn’t kill him. You and austin were involved. You were kidnapped by austin’s cousin. You know how the police think. It makes sense that they would ask you about austin’s involvement with his cousin, right? They would ask you about austin’s mental state, if he had any enemies, if austin was receiving any threats. I mean, come on, ava. You know this is standard police procedure. I don’t intend to get into that with you. Why? You got something to hide? How you doing with that shirley temple? Good. But could I see how they make our dessert? Kristina says they use a flame torch. Uh, trish? Yes, mr. Corinthos? Can I talk to you for a second? Sure. My daughter donna got a great report card, and I promised her a great dinner, but she just wants to talk about dessert and everything. Are you still planning on managing, uh, charlie’s? Yeah, of course I love working there. Yeah, I know you do, but I just don’t want you to do so much that you don’t have time for yourself. I got it handled, dad. Okay. I know you do, but you just seem to be talking a lot about work and not about your personal life. How’s that going?

[ Chuckles ] You weren’t in the office much today. I finished the editorial on the mixed-use, rezoned buildings. I wanted your feedback. Left you a message. I’m sorry. I — the afternoon got derailed. Um, I have some big news, too. Late-breaking story I don’t know about? Nope. This is personal. I’m gonna be a grandmother again. I want your input on the final candidates for the epiphany johnson nursing scholarship.

[ Chuckles ] Maybe before the next meeting. Yes. You got it. I think it was really great of sonny to establish that fund in her name. Mm. And he just underwrote all the christmas activities for the whole hospital. Gifts, food, decorations, everything. Ah. That man can really surprise you. Well, he’s always been really generous with the hospital. Mm. Now, on a not-so-happy note, can you do me a favor and let me know if you hear about any gossip in the hospital regarding finn’s malpractice lawsuit? Amy driscoll just approached me about news of his suit. Oh. Uh…yes. I will, uh, definitely have a chat with her myself. But do you mind if I ask you if you know why monica wants to see finn? Honestly, I-I don’t know. But what I can say is, from my experience, monica is one of the fairest, most impartial administrators that I’ve ever worked with. And we know that finn is one of the most gifted doctors there is. I think we can really hope for the best on this one. Elizabeth. Oh, amy. Amy, why did you talk to dr. Robinson about dr. Finn? I know. I could really use your advice about that. You see, I was one of the nurses who assisted in mr. Muldoon’s treatment. Mm-hmm. So I’m supposed to give a deposition, but I don’t know what to say or do. There’s only one thing you can say. You have to tell the truth. All I can tell you is that I wasn’t negligent. I’ve gone over my notes, and I’ve examined mr. Muldoon’s case from every possible angle. I know I did nothing wrong. Unfortunately, when mr. Muldoon came to see me, he already had late-stage cancer. It had developed over many years, silently, without any noticeable symptoms. His cancer was also being masked by the presence of a tapeworm, which I found and treated with praziquantel. I had asked mr. Muldoon several times to come in and see me for a follow-up, but he was very busy. And it was almost two months before he came back, at which time I ran further blood tests and, more importantly, a colonoscopy, which revealed his colon cancer. You should do what you need to do. I understand. But I stand by my treatment, whether or not G.H. Stands by me.

you’re working at the bar,you’re getting the youth center up and running. So, that’s two full-time jobs. Yep. I want you to have time to have some fun. Oh, I intend to. But right now I just have to focus on some other priorities. But fun will come later. How much later? What — what don’t I know? Dad, I’m gonna be molly and tj’s surrogate. You know, I got to know finn when he and anna were an item. The guy’s a bit stiff.

[ Chuckles ] Hell of a doctor. You really believe he was negligent? Robert, you are also an attorney. So you know full well it doesn’t matter what I believe. It matters what I can prove. And I fully intend to prove that if hamilton finn had more carefully screened mr. Muldoon, more thoroughly tested him, that muldoon’s cancer would have been detected. But hamilton didn’t, it wasn’t, and muldoon died as a result. Agree? Disagree? Hello? Hello? Mm. Oh, I’m sorry. I — [ Chuckles ] I wasn’t listening. Oh. In fact, uh… I wasn’t thinking about the case at all. I was thinking about you. We have managed to coexist and maintain a level of civility for avery and donna’s sake, and I am grateful for that. But that does not mean that I answer to you or that I owe you explanations for anything. What happens to you affects avery, and I love that little girl. I helped raise her. And I’ve stepped in for you when your life has gotten too dangerous or took you elsewhere. You don’t have to remind me. I’m not trying to judge you, okay? I’m just thinking about avery. If she were separated from you for any reason, it would kill her because she loves you. So, if you had anything to do with austin’s death, you don’t have to tell me, but you need to tell sonny. Well, how’d it go? Well, they won’t be lifting the restriction on my treatment plans any time soon. Other than that, I have no idea. As you know, our surrogate miscarried our embryo. She’s opted not to try again. And that’s hit molly pretty hard. I’m sorry to have heard that, but, darling, there’s still hope. Yes, there is, because molly’s sister, kristina, she — she offered to be our surrogate.

[ Gasps ] What a profound gift kristina’s giving her sister. And you! We are both very grateful. Good. Mm-hmm. But something’s worrying you. What is it? As a doctor, I am aware of all the possible risk and health challenges. But what really worries me isn’t medical. It’s having to count on kristina. Congratulations. Are sam and dante — no, no, no, no. Actually, there isn’t really a grandchild. Not yet. You know that molly and tj are — are trying to have a baby via surrogate, right? Yes, you mentioned that to me and that the surrogate miscarried. So, kristina has offered to be the surrogate, and molly has accepted. Well, that’s amazing. Why do you look less than thrilled? Because I have mixed feelings about it. And I am, of course, saying this to you in confidence, all right? Of course. Good, because I — I really have to be able to talk to somebody outside the family. I’m right here. Speak. Okay. So, I told you that molly and kristina were bumping up against each other for a while, right? Well, that was because kristina wanted to be molly’s surrogate and — and molly was reluctant about that. So I-it caused a rift. And just when they were beginning to repair the relationship, the surrogate had a miscarriage. So now kristina suddenly is option number one. And don’t get me wrong. I’m very proud of kristina for wanting to do something so selfless and — and loving for her sister, but I can’t help wonder if the two of them are really going into this with their eyes wide open or they’re just sort of riding the waves of emotion, not being able to foresee that those waves eventually come crashing down.

Apparently the hospital is considering making a separate settlement with the muldoons. If they decide to do that, not only would I be going to trial alone, the fact that the hospital settled — it would imply they believe there was negligence. Finn, no, but they can’t do that to you. Dr. Finn. Hmm? Can we speak privately? Sure. Oof. Protective. She’s just voicing her concern and disappointment, I share both. Finn, you know I consider you a dear friend. But I am not here as your friend. I am here as a member of the hospital board. Thank you for coming in on such short notice. I assume this is regarding the proposed separate settlement with the muldoons. Yes. The hospital needs to clarify its position on the hamilton finn case, the malpractice case. Kristina has her own way of looking at life. And that’s fine. But she’s also impulsive, has been as long as I’ve known her. She — she starts out with the best of intentions, but she doesn’t always follow through. So you’re worried that she’ll flake out on you and molly on something as important and sensitive as this? Honey, I-I can’t really see that happening, can you? Not intentionally. But my fear is that, once kristina confronts the reality of what surrogacy entails — the hormone treatments, the constant monitoring, the doctor’s appointments — it might be… more than what she bargained for. Sometimes it takes two or three tries before an embryo takes. Miscarriage is — it’s a significant reality. Auntie, what if it’s — what if it’s too much and she changes her mind? I can see it. I-I can see her backing out, auntie. And that would… that would break molly’s heart. And mine, too. I thought you and molly had some issues recently. Yeah, well, we — we worked them out. What does alexis think about that? You know, she’s my mom. She’s cautiously optimistic. But in the end, everything’s gonna be fine. And she is gonna get another grandchild to love, so she’s gonna be over the moon about it. So, that’s it? You’re gonna put your social life on hold for the next nine months? What does your, uh, singer friend think about that? Blaze? What? I’m — dad!

[ Chuckles ] No, I’m just saying, in puerto rico, I just felt like there was something between you two. No, we’re just — you know, we’re just getting to know each other, uh, really. So — why? What do you think you noticed? No, I just notice that you lit up when you saw her. And I haven’t seen you light up like that since parker. Well, maybe I was just really well lit. Okay, look, I don’t want to pry, but if the situation changes, I just want you to know… that I would be happy for you. Thanks, dad. I have no doubt that you will make a strong case. I mean, you’re a terror in the courtroom. When I’m not facing off against you, I can’t think of better company. You really know how to turn a girl’s head, robert. Let me return the compliment. Besides, you just listened to me vent about my daughters, which I really appreciate, by the way, ’cause it’s certainly not something I can share with them. “A,” I don’t want to diminish their optimism, and, “b,” it’s none of my business, right? They’ve committed to this, and they don’t need their mother mucking it up. You’ve raised capable young women, alexis. The risk is theirs to take. And whatever consequences may arise, you’ll be there for them. Let’s just hope that the benefits far outweigh the risks.

[ Sighs ] Thank you for your sage perspective. Oh, I’m sage-ier than ever these days.

[ Chuckles ] It’s all about family and connection for me now. That’s — that’s what’s keeping me going, despite my prognosis. Finn, chase, violet. Seeing them happy, knowing they’ll be okay — that’s all that matters. That’s all you want for your daughters, isn’t it? To know that they’ll be okay? Absolutely. That their families will stay connected? You got it. I want so much for molly to have this baby that she wants so much. And I really am grateful that kristina can hopefully make that happen. You know, from what I observed about kristina and molly, they have a bond much like irene and I did. Of course they squabble maybe a little bit more than irene and I, but that’s because of their closeness, and they know what buttons to push. But the difference is, molly is — is like you, the strong one, the rational one. She — she can tough things out. There’s all kind of strengths, tj. It takes guts to throw caution to the wind and lead with your heart. It’s true irene leaned on me. But I leaned on her, too, for advice, support, humor…

[ Chuckles ] …And consolation. Your grandmother and i were sisters. We were a team, and we knew each other better than anybody else. We knew what our successes and happy times meant to each other, just like we knew… the heartbreak of our fears and tragedies. Why do you think kristina offered to be the surrogate? And why do you think molly agreed? Trust the bond. And trust kristina to see it through. Oof, looks like you were hungry after all.

I’m here in a strictly professional capacity. My decision was based on the fact that you are an excellent doctor, you are an asset to this hospital, and we are very lucky to have you. We’ve reviewed dr. Finn’s actions, and we’ve found that he’d done nothing wrong. You’re walking away from a separate settlement? That’s correct. Why don’t we mount a defense that dr. Finn was negligent but acted without the hospital’s knowledge or approval? We concluded that dr. Finn did nothing wrong. So, until you come up with another step we can take, thank you very much for coming in. Dr. Quartermaine, as your legal counsel, I feel compelled to offer you some advice. Rethink your decision carefully. The muldoons have deep pockets, and they are willing to fight. So ask yourself which is more important — backing dr. Finn or securing the future of general hospital?

When I finally did open up the locker, I — there was a package inside. It was wrapped up like it was gonna be mailed, but it didn’t have an address label on it. That’s because the late mr. Forsyth wasn’t able to mail the package. He was in a fatal car accident. Right, so I-I didn’t want to draw attention to anything. So I took the package, I got out of there. Then where’d you go? Straight to the bank. Mr. Brennan, this is my daughter donna. Donna, this is mr. Brennan who got that ball out of the bushes for us. Thank you, mr. Brennan. You are most welcome. What position do you play? Forward. That’s a lot of running. Oh, that’s not a problem for donna, because she’s in constant motion, right?

[ Chuckles ] Speaking of running… uh, my job can be a little high pressure at times, so I run to decompress. Sometimes it even works. Have you been to the running trail over on harbor view? I mean, normally there’s no one here this time of day, and usually the acoustics are actually pretty good. And you notice because you play in here a lot? Yeah, I mean in the afternoon, to just give myself a break from everything. Oh, well, then, don’t let us interrupt you. Come in. Oh. Play something else for us. You don’t have to say that. Um, it’s okay. Oh, well, if you think I’m saying that just to be polite, think again. I am majoring in art, so I’m never dishonest about an artist’s work. What artist? She means you. Well, I’m just goofing around. Well, I would love to hear what you sound like when you’re serious. You don’t really want to hear me play. Yeah, we do.Yeah, we do. I know how you both operate. The last time you sat me down like this, you tried to talk me into getting a puppy.

[ Chuckles ] We’re not trying to talk you into anything. Kristina and I have done a lot of thinking, and we’ve made a decision that will affect both of us. Actually, it kind of affects the whole family. Yeah. We just hope that you can support us. Oh, boy. Okay. Kristina is going to be the surrogate for tj and me.

[ Door opens ] Oh, hey! So, how did the moving g– what happened?

You went to the bank? Well, yeah. I wanted to go somewhere private, secure where I — where I knew I wasn’t being watched or monitored. I also needed a place where I could leave the package that was secure, where I knew someone didn’t have access, so I got a safe deposit box. Okay, that is certainly more secure than leaving it at the train locker. Mm-hmm. What was in it that was worth killing for? That wsb file. Pages yellowed like it had been in that trunk for decades. Thank god the wsb didn’t have it because they would have destroyed it years ago. Mm-hmm. I saw forsyth’s name right away. He was the field agent for that op that went bad. Wrote down some other names that were mentioned, too, including anna’S. Lindsey is one of my clients. Lindsey, this is mr. Corinthos. Nice to meet you, lindsey. Why did you say he was santa claus? Oh. Well, what I meant was, is that mr. Corinthos is like santa claus because they’re both generous and giving. But I got it wrong. Everybody knows that there’s only one santa claus and he’s going to bring you presents at christmas. Mr. Corinthos was offering to help the people at the hospital have a happy christmas. Why are you doing that? Well, you know, I’m a big fan of santa claus, and I always follow his example.

I never thought I wow. You’re really good. Good for a guy on a study break. No, no. She’s right. I mean, you have a real feel for the music. I had no idea you had such a great voice. You really think so? Back me up. She’s right. I mean, it’s not really my kind of music, but even so, I can tell you have a real gift. Thank you. I-I really appreciate that. Anyway, I played longer than I meant to, so I better get back to studying. Uh, well, you need to eat, don’t you? I have some ramen, or I could just order in. It’s fine. Well, why don’t you eat with us instead? Y-y-you know what moving is like. It’s overwhelming, even in the best of circumstances, which these definitely are. But you do — you do realize just how much stuff you have, and no matter how carefully you box it and tape everything up, what you really want is inevitably missing, and so you’re afraid that you’ve — you’ve left it behind. But in the end, after all of that, here I am, back in this penthouse that I love so much, and that’s thanks to you. Well, you’ll be an ideal tenant. And I can’t believe how lucky I am to be leasing it to you.

Know how important it is foryou to have a baby, you and tj, and I have no doubt you’re gonna be amazing parents. Thank you, mom. Um… and, you know, you — what a generous gift it is to offer your sister and your brother-in-law. But you have reservations, or I-I know you did when I first offered to be their surrogate. But, mom, it’s been months now and things have changed. No, no. No question. Yeah. You know, I-it’s just my job as a parent to try to look at every angle of all things everywhere. And, um…I can’t help see some potential pitfalls. Well, we see them, too. Do you remember when you ran into me the other day at the port charles grill? I was meeting with the matching professional? And it made me realize that as badly as I want a child, tj and I were not on the same page about another surrogate, and that hit me really hard. I know, baby. Yeah. I had this whole meltdown in the park and kristina saw me crying. It killed me to see her upset like that, mom. And, you know, after we talked about it, I really… I put a lot of thought into it, and I decided to offer again. And before you say anything, yes, I’ve talked it over with tj at length and at great detail, and the three of us have made the decision to move forward together. Just hope you can be happy for us. Do you think the killer was here in this penthouse? Certainly possible. Between all the movers and my driver and a messenger from the gallery. People were in and out of here all day. It would not have been difficult for somebody to slip that into my bag at some point. Ava, you cannot let this person terrorize you. You have to go to the police. No, nina, no! And you know why I can’t do that. I had ample motive to kill austin, and I have no alibi for when he died. We had a horrible fight that night. He’d known that I was abducted, he — he knew that his cousin, mason, was following cyrus renault’s orders, and he didn’t go to the cops and he didn’t go to sonny. He did exactly what cyrus wanted, and he testified to get him out of prison. All of which seems to indicate that cyrus murdered austin. So why don’t you tell them, the police, all of that? Because these notes. Why would cyrus waste his time toying with me? I’m of no value to him. I-I’m just the opposite, really. H-he knows if he pushes me too far, I’ll go to sonny. And that is trouble that he does not need, so no. As awful as he is, I don’t believe cyrus is responsible. Okay, then who is? Someone with a talent for mind games. Someone with the money to play them. Someone who loves watching me squirm. Someone who hates me and wants revenge. Nikolas. I’m just curious. Why didn’t you take a picture of the report? I-I just got paranoid. I figured if it’s on a phone, then it’s in the cloud. It could be hacked by the wsb and brought back down using whatever technology they have that we don’t even know about. I didn’t want to risk it getting out, so I went low-tech. Well, you have a point there. I mean, that report has escaped notice all these years because anna kept a hard copy in the trunk. Anna kept a lot of documentation. I mean, it wasn’t just that report in that trunk. There were papers, records, other files. Seems like she was pretty thorough. Or maybe extremely guilty. I mean, that’s a lot of insurance to keep — insurance that you’re not gonna need unless you plan on blackmailing someone in a pretty powerful position. Yeah, I just don’t get it. This happened in the ’80s. And yes, anna has made a lot of mistakes, but she has since redeemed herself. Well, that’s what she keeps saying. Maybe that’s what she’s trying to convince herself of. But can you really redeem yourself from all the things you’ve done wrong? I mean, or does enough time pass that you — you don’t think about it anymore? Or maybe you rewrite it in your mind, or maybe you try and convince yourself that it never happened altogether. Hey. Are we talking about anna… or you? I’m talking about everyone. I mean, how accurately can you recall something that happened 10, 20 years ago — a failure, a screw-up, a lie you told? I-I don’t know. To be honest with you, I-I don’t want to know. I don’t think anna does, either. I think she’s rewritten the ’80s to make it easier for her, to make it easier for her to redeem herself. But this report… and everything else that was in that trunk, that says otherwise. Dante, do you trust anna? All right. Be careful with that. Mom, can I go practice more? Sure, but just stay where I can see you, okay? I will. Okay. Like I told you, always in constant motion. Always. Is soccer a special passion, or is she like this about everything? Uh, she’s like this about everything.

[ Laughs ] I mean, she’s all in. I mean, whether it be, um, a flower girl in a wedding or baking cookies. Although donna really does seem to like soccer. She’s fast, and she’s competitive, so I don’t know. I think soccer is a good outlet for her. Yeah, she bears a strong resemblance to you. Really? Yeah.

[ Chuckles ] Everyone says she looks exactly like her father. So, lindsey, what are you hoping to get for christmas? A light-up tracing pad. Are you kidding me? I have a daughter just about your age. She wants the same thing.

[ Stella chuckles ] I’m sorry to interrupt, but I was hoping you could help me with these forms, felicia. Absolutely. Let’s take a look. Come on, lindsey. You know, you have always been generous with this hospital, but making this special gift for just holiday celebrations — that’s above and beyond. What — what inspired you? Friend of yours. Not to brag, I have quite a few friends. But still, I think I know the one you mean. Your father.

Of course I’m happy for you. Darling, I, um… I want you to have everything in this world that you want that’s good for you. And I love being a grandma. I don’t always like being called a grandma.

[ Chuckles ] Welcome another addition to the family is a beautiful thing. And the bond that you two have built… is a beautiful thing. It makes me tear up that you would offer molly this gift and that she would accept it. But… here it comes. …I’m worried that this could be complicated. And, you know, pregnancy is complicated, and there’s a risk physically and emotionally, and there’s no guaranteed outcome. Look, if something goes wrong, I’d be devastated. But I’m not gonna deprive myself or tj of what we want out of fear. We all know I like to be cautious, but if you wait and wait for everything to be perfect… you might miss your chance altogether. Yeah, a-and my ob said I am a great candidate. Molly and tj really want this, and I want this for them. But, selfishly, for me, too. I want to bring my little niece into this world — or nephew. Or nephew. Well, you don’t need my blessing. But you have it.

Kristina, have you really thought this through? Ac cording to laura,nikolas is in europe, so why would he come back here to kill austin? Who knows why nikolas does anything? Maybe austin double-crossed him, too. That seems to have been his pattern. Double-crossed him how? You know, I told you that I mistakenly thought that I killed nikolas. Well, not only did he survive, he made a miraculous recovery. And I think he must have had some medical intervention. From austin. Mm-hmm. And austin lied to me about it the whole time, and he helped mason blackmail me. You know, maybe austin made the mistake of trying to blackmail nikolas as well. Or maybe nikolas just killed him just to torment me. Oh, come on. You don’t really believe that. Nikolas thinks I tried to kill him. Of course he wants revenge. And what better way to get it than to frame me for austin’s murder? Burger and chocolate milkshake. You know, my usual. Mm-hmm. You? Uh, same. Okay. Oh, and table fries. I know. Yes, you do. So, where did you learn to play guitar like that? I — well, I think I was four when I started to play the piano. But I-I didn’t really have a feel for it, you know? And then, uh, when I was about 10, my teacher introduced me to the guitar, and that was — that was it. And you just knew. Yeah, I-I guess I did. But my parents said if I wasn’t going to play the piano, they weren’t gonna pay for music lessons. What do your parents have against you playing guitar? Uh, my dad, uh… he says guitar is low-brow and — but I-I really couldn’t let it go, so since then, I’ve just been self-taught. How do your parents not realize that you’re really gifted? Stella: Mike. He might have started out as my client, but boy, he became so much more. I’ve had dear friends before, but none like him. And the way he faced his alzheimer’S… oh, I admired that. He was scared. Yeah. But it was always his love that came through. And all his encouragement for all of us. And as hard as it was for you to watch what mike was going through… he never saw anything but your love. I miss him every day. Especially this time of year. His last christmas, he was, you know — he was in and out. He was… sometimes he would be his old self, sometimes he’d be just like a stranger. But he always loved christmas. And he knew it was christmas ’cause he loved the trees and the decorations. He was like a — like a — like a kid w-with the feeling of true joy for the season. Oh. I remember.

[ Chuckles ] But it’s tough to get that — that true joy feeling in a hospital. That’s why I want to help. I wasn’t referring to donna’s appearance. It’s more that you two share a certain, uh… lightness of spirit. What do you mean? Your daughter is open and friendly, not shy or withdrawn. She’s interested in things and people around her. And, uh, she’s certainly not bratty or demanding.

[ Chuckles ] No, not donna. But there’s plenty of people who would say I was bratty and demanding.

[ Laughs ] We all have our moments. Yeah. Do they accuse you of being unfairly demanding? I don’t think so. I mean, I-I used to think everything had to be a battle. And then I learned how and when to compromise and when to fight for something I believe in. And I’m not afraid to push when I think something’s important. And how do you decide what’s important?

I understand your impulse to want to help molly, I do. It’s like, whatever I do, whatever I decide to do, you are constantly assuming that I’m being impulsive. That’s not what I meant. That is not what what I meant. It’s — it is what you meant. A-and it’s how you make me feel. Like — like, you can’t credit me for knowing myself, or knowing my own brain for looking at a situation and deciding the best course of action and executing it and following through. And you know what, mom? It — it is a tired narrative. And I’m sick of it because I have — I’ve done my due diligence and — and I know what I’m in for. No, you don’T. You can’t because you’ve never been pregnant. You’ve never brought a child into the world. You don’t know what it’s like physically or emotionally, a-and no amount of research and no amount of due diligence is gonna prepare you for that. In the best of circumstances, if nothing goes wrong for nine months, you’re gonna be carrying this life inside you. Then you’re going to bring it into the world. And I promise you, darling, it will change you. It will. And I know how much you want to give molly and tj what they want. But I’m asking you if you truly considered what you want. Adam just told me that he used to take music classes when he was little, but he started teaching himself guitar. Oh, my gosh, really? That’s incredible. I mean, you play really well. Thank you. Well, maybe it’s an advantage being self-taught. You don’t get locked in and you get to explore and develop your own style. Well, I-I don’t know about all that. It’s — really, it’s just a hobby that helps me decompress from everything. Well, have you thought about playing professionally? Our relationship was so sick and dysfunctional, and I was nearly as addicted to it as he was. You know, as awful as it was, I think — I think nikolas did me a real favor by getting esme pregnant. You know, that’s when my perspective shifted and I was able to see that our relationship was just misery. And I was able to see that if I didn’t get out, nikolas would destroy me. No, I am so sorry. I-I knew that things were bad between you two, but I didn’t know how bad they were. Neither did I until it was almost too late. And by the time I-I stopped playing games and I started pulling back… nikolas was just too invested. He would not let me go. And that’s why he came to wyndemere that night, threatening to take avery, and that’s why I hit him! That’s why all of this is happening now! And if it is nikolas sending those notes… the killer is going to great lengths to torment me. And the only person with a motive to do that is nikolas. This time I intend to beat him at his own game. No, I, uh — I do trust anna. But none of us know how we’re gonna react when the past is dredged up, right? I mean, what’s anna gonna do? Is she gonna cover up what she did? Is she gonna overcompensate out of guilt and make it easier for whoever this is that’s after her to get her? I mean, I want to talk to her, I just don’t I feel like I have enough of a handle on the situation. Okay, well, what do you plan to do? I go back to the bank, read that report more thoroughly. I mean, I skimmed through it enough to know what the mission was. It was all about getting this eastern bloc general to defect and bring his top secret files with him. In exchange, he was getting $10 million in 1987 us dollars. Whoa. Yeah. Okay. Well, no wonder why the wsb wanted him and his files. Mm-hmm. That man didn’t come cheap. Right. But the op went bad. The general was killed, his files went missing. What about the $10 million? Also missing. And forsyth was the field agent, so the last thing he wants is for this report to see the light of day. Okay. What about anna? All right, now, her role was to pretend to be the girlfriend of the general so that they could cross the border together, because it would look less conspicuous than a single guy crossing on his own. Okay, well, what about the other things that were in the files? You said that there are things that didn’t make any sense. Yeah, right. There was like these passport photos that look like they were from the ’80s. One was anna, one was forsyth, and one was someone else who I don’t know, but there was — there was this other thing. That.

Right, let’s just talkabout the physical changes. Are you prepared for them? The — the hormone shifts, the swollen ankles, and you may get morning sickness. Yeah, I might, mom. And — and I don’t know how I’m gonna handle that. I won’t know until it happens, but I… I have faith in myself because I believe in what I’m doing. Yes, this feels big and it feels a little scary. But it also feels right. I’m confident in my decision. And honestly, I-I-I just wish you had a little faith in me. I have faith in you. I do. And your courage and your generous heart. I need to remember that you are a beautifully grown woman, and you’re perfectly capable of making your own decisions and deciding what you want. And now it’s my job to just step back and support you, and I will… support you. And I love you. I love you, too. Are you sure you’re gonna be okay? You know, you can always stay with me. Oh, I know. No, but I-I’m fine. The — the more I think about it, the more convinced I am that nikolas just had somebody put that envelope in my bag. He — he would not risk laura or spencer seeing him in port charles. I’m sure he’s back in europe and harassing me from afar. Honestly, I’m fine. Don’t worry about me. Are you sure? I’m sure. Okay. [ Gasps ] I don’t mean to tell you your business, but my grandfather is a professional musician, and I know how important music is to his soul. No. It’s okay. Look, you’re passionate about it. I get it. Trina’s grandfather plays the clarinet, and he is absolutely incredible. He actually performed at her parents’ wedding reception, and it was beautiful. That’s really cool. D-does he, uh — like, is he successful? Uh, I guess it depends on how you define success. Uh, he doesn’t fill stadiums or concert halls, but he supports himself as an artist, and he puts his art out there for people to experience and reflect on.

[ Sighs ] I can’t imagine what my life would be like if I just spent it making music. Well, you don’t have to imagine it. You can actually find out. Yeah, I mean, you can change your major to music. Or join a band or have a solo career. Yeah, no, that — that can’t happen. Look, I’m gonna be a doctor. Well, that’s great, too. My mom’s a doctor. Um, as long as you know you don’t have to do that. It’s your life. And if music fills your soul, I say you do it. I can’t thank you enough, felicia. Lindsey being here over christmas is already tough enough. But now I don’t have to stress about the paperwork. No, you won’T. If I’m here for christmas, how will santa find me? Oh, that’s easy. General hospital has been working with santa claus for a very long time. We make sure that he can find everyone here, so you don’t have to worry. He got me through some tough times.

[ Chuckles ] He would make me laugh till I was crying. Oh, that man could flirt.

[ Laughs ] Mm. And you were right there, as I recall.

[ Both laugh ] You better believe it. I thought I knew what courage was until I met that man. Set a whole new standard. But the thing I remember most is how much he loved you. Thank you for that. He would ask me to remember our friendship even when he couldn’T. Like it was something I could ever forget.

[ Sighs ] I appreciate that you treated my dad as a person and not just a patient. Mike made it easy. Uh, if something touches my family, that’s important to me. And that includes my business, because that affects my family. And after that? I don’t know. I’m not shy about speaking up if I see an injustice. At the same time, I’m not here to manage other people’s lives. I don’t know. What do you find important? Mom, can I have my hot chocolate? You sure can. It’s right there. Give me this. It’s barely hot anymore. I know. Because it’s freezing and we need to go home.

The bond we shared was broken. You were the one who broke it when you chose to help elizabeth even though her lies contributed to my britta’s death. She was my client. You know, confidentiality — you as a doctor, you know it would have been unethical for me to have told you. And legally and medically, we are both such paragons of ethics. I’m sorry, scott. Truly I am. But our problems are insurmountable. Yeah, but we also had a lot of fun, even though we have these problems. The way I see it, liesl, is that, uh, we march to a different drum beat. I’ve been in relationships where I felt more alone than I did when I was unencumbered. That’s how I know it’s best not to settle. Settle? I mean, you haven’t even been around. Molly’s devastated. It’s awful. I ran into her at rice park, and she was just bawling her eyes out. So I took her back to my apartment. We talked about things, and we decided that I’m going to be molly’s surrogate. And because there was incriminating evidence against him in that report, anna thinks he stole it. What she doesn’t know is that he might have put it in this locker before he was murdered. So anna still doesn’t know about the key. No, and I was going to tell her. What stopped you? The M.E. Get this — forsyth’s body is gone. What do you mean his body is gone? It just disappeared from the morgue? Basically. The wsb had it confiscated.

I don’t have access to it anymore. Okay, so the wsb knows that it was forsyth who burned anna’s house down. Since you’re getting those yankee tickets for wiley, I thought — you know, I was thinking maybe I’ll get him a baseball cap or — or a jersey so he could be outfitted for the game. And for amelia, you know, I saw this really cute lavender snowsuit, so I thought maybe that — it had a really cute fur-lined hood. What? Are those bad ideas? No, they’re great ideas, but it’s just kind of modest. I mean, look, amelia’s a little girl. She’s not gonna know the difference. But wiley, why can’t you get him a little more? Well, he comes from a really big family, okay? He’s probably gonna get a mountain of gifts. I don’t want to overwhelm him. Like my nanny used to say, if you get so many presents, no present is special. Is that it? No. That’s exactly what I thought. What else? I’m trying not to provoke michael. And luckily, luke did give me power of attorney a while back, so I came here to retrieve those documents. You flew halfway across the world so you could get paperwork that we could have just pulled and sent to you? I don’t trust anyone with my personal papers. Huh. “Huh”? What does that mean? [ Chuckles ] You would have had even less use for them than I did. By the time I was 12 or 13, all I wanted was to get out. So that’s why you enlisted. The day I graduated high school. For most people, decorating the christmas tree is something to look forward to. It’s like the official start of the season. But not for you. That tree going up was like a warning flare that things were about to get way more tense. And all the parties — either my dad would go and leave my mom alone, or she would go with him, and they would come home fighting because he was hitting on some other woman. It was this vicious cycle that my mom refused to break, and I — I just couldn’t help resenting her for it. That must have been torture to watch. I’m so sorry. Don’t be. I went out and made my own life, one I’m very grateful for. Especially because you’re in it. Well, I am sorry that your christmas tree brought you dread instead of joy. Sometimes life doesn’t give you time to think things over. You make a snap decision, and then you live with the consequences, right? But we can take a moment to review and re-evaluate. Where are you going with this? Some clichés exist for a reason. You are the smart davis daughter. Sam is the resourceful one. Kristina… is the impetuous one. Lila would be so upset. She would have reginald and the — reggie who? Oh, reggie. He was the butler when ned and I were married. She would have reggie and the entire staff decorating this house by the first of the month. Everything would be out, except for a few things that came out on christmas eve. I’m thinking of a specific train set that alan was very fond of. Train set, huh? Oh, yeah. Yeah. It was, um… it was a family heirloom given to him by his grandfather, who was in railroads. What, like — like an engineer or something like that? No, no, no, no, no. Grandpa — great-grandpa quartermaine, he owned railroads in upstate new york, going into canada, and this particular train set was an exact replica of one of his trains. And alan — oh, alan, he was so proud of it. Well, why wouldn’t he be? Yeah, but by then it was an antique, so it only came out on christmas eve. But everything else, everywhere else, there were wreaths on the doors, there was a garland going all the way down the staircase, everything by december 1st. I cannot believe that you were not more on getting decorations in here. I… your family’s house. Your father’s garage was like a-a christmas wonderland. Your own apartment! I know. Come on! I could tell your room from the street just by walking by and looking up. Lois… I still enjoy christmas decorating. When — early on in my marriage to ned, monica and i sort of, uh… clashed over the christmas decor. She wanted a fresh tree. I had put up something a little more… effusive. Mm. She made it very clear that this was her house, it was her choice, so you know what? I just let it be. Mm-hmm. I let her take the lead on the christmas decorating. Okay, and I appreciate the sensitivity, but we can’t leave this house bare while we’re waiting for monica to come back from a medical conference. Okay, then let’s go for it! Yeah? Yes. Okay. Alright. But if my vote has any weight to it, I’m gonna say… I would appreciate an actual tree as well. I can do natural. Look at my fingernails. Don’t make me… okay, but if we’re gonna do this with the port charles pioneers, we got to get moving. Okay. Let’s go. The tree looked lonely. It wasn’t as pretty as the others. And if I hadn’t picked it, it might not have been picked at all. Yeah, you know what, sweetheart? I think… I think you chose the perfect tree. The whole point is that it’s not perfect. Mm-hmm, but I think it’s perfect for us. Elizabeth: I agree. You’re really getting into the spirit of christmas. And I promise you, we are going to make this tree look spectacular. Mm-hmm. Tj, from the moment we decided we wanted to have a baby, we have faced nothing but setbacks. Sometimes I think the universe is trying to tell us something. Because anytime I think about giving up, accepting that we aren’t meant to have kids, I-I get this pit in my stomach. I mean, that’s why I was crying in the park when kristina found me. The thought of never having a family with you broke me. I’m so sorry, mol. But that’s when everything started to shift. I mean, think about this. I’m never in the park in the middle of the afternoon. I’m in my office or in court. What are the odds that I’d be there and so would kristina? A-about a million to 1. I mean, that’s — that’s got to be fate, right? Like, fate that my sister would find me. Fate that she’d offer to carry our child again. And I have no interest in fighting fate. I can feel it in my heart. This is the right thing to do. And I’m 1,000% sure about kristina. Then so am I. Okay, let’s — let’s do this.

[ Chuckling ] Okay. Molly, tj, hi. Come in. What brings you guys over? This is more of a sister thing, so I’ll let molly explain. Spill it, sister. I am about to officially ask you for a huge favor. One that will dominate your life for the next nine months. Yes, I’ll be your surrogate!

[ Laughing ] Are you sure? Are you kidding me? I have never been more sure of anything in my life. Oh!

[ Both laugh ] Well, charlotte has always denied burning your house, but she lies about a lot of things. She didn’t lie about this. How can you be so sure? Forensics. Csi collected some scraps of fabric from the hedges around my house, and they all tested positive for the accelerant that started the fire. And they lifted some dna, which matched someone that isn’t your daughter. Oh, thank god. Yeah. It’s a relief, yes. I-I didn’t want to think that she’d gone that far. Why didn’t i believe her? Why didn’t I have faith in my own daughter? You said there was a dna match. Who’s the arsonist? I can’t tell you that.

I would imagine that someone, somewhere considers it classified, yes. Well, I’m not talking to them, am I? I’m talking to you. So who burned your house? It’S…need-to-know. You don’t need to know. Why do I not need to know that? I don’t understand. Really? That astonishes me that you fail to understand, because I feel that I made myself quite clear the last time we saw each other. I can’t tell you who burned my house down because I don’t trust you.

[ Dramatic music plays ] Mols, you were so emotional the last time I saw you. I wasn’t sure if maybe upon thinking about it more, you might not want me to be your surrogate. Life’s been a roller coaster since I found out I can’t get pregnant. And when andrea miscarried, tj and I were devastated. I could quote you the medical statistics on the odds of a miscarriage, but… none of that prepared us for when andrea told us that she lost our baby, or having to tell molly. When andrea miscarried, I… I realized that I needed to do some real soul-searching. For the first time in my life, something that I really wanted wasn’t going to come to me because I was smart and prepared and willing to work hard. I felt entitled to being a mom, like whenever tj and I were ready, whenever it fit into our schedules, I’d get pregnant and we’d have a baby nine months later. But when that couldn’t happen

[Voice breaking] Because of me… because I am basically infertile, I just — I jumped right in to finding a solution. Solving the problem — I can do that. So I found andrea to be our surrogate, and she got pregnant, and everything was going according to plan. Until it wasn’T. And it’s only now that I realize that I have to do the thing that scares me the most. I have to accept that I am not in control… and ask for help. Ahh! Ohh! Well, at least we made a start. Yes, I will get the other garlands and the wreaths from the florist, I guess. I’m so glad we got the tree from pc pioneers. Oh, yeah. Me too. So good. It makes you feel so good knowing that you gave back to the community. And those kids in their uniforms — so cute! It makes me think of little dante when he was that age. Was he a pioneer? Uh, no, he was not. But that was not for my lack of trying. I signed him up, I took him to the first meeting, and that kid had jumped out the window and escaped before I even got my car out of the parking lot.

[ Gasps ] No! Yes. Hand to god. I got a call from the troop leader. He was apologetic, beside himself. I said, “calm down.” I went and checked the corner lot, and who was there playing baseball but little dante falconeri?

[ Laughs ] I swear to you, lois, I wanted to grab that kid by the back of his hair and drag him home. Aww! And then I said, “you know what? Who am i to dictate his dream?” You know, if my kid wants to — to play sandlot baseball and dream of a career in the major leagues instead of learn the fundamentals of camping, like, who am I to say? Aww! He’s my kid, and I should support him. So that’s what I did. Oh, vivi. You know what? That has always been one of my favorite things about you. You just take people as they come and you love them for who they are. You never try to make them who you think they should be. Well, it’s a fine line sometimes, you know. With your kids, you — you got to accept them… mm-hmm. …But you also got to provide some guidance, so… mm-hmm. Yeah. It’s like being A… a carpenter and a gardener. That’s the difference. People always say that I’m generous… and humble.

[ Chuckles ] But what I never realized is that the person who’s giving is in charge. Like, they’re deciding when and how much. And hopefully they’re doing good, but they are the one in control. And we all know how much I love to be in control. You’re being way too hard on yourself. Asking for help means giving control to someone else. And that would be hard for me under any circumstances, but it is excruciating when the person I’m asking for help is someone that I treated unfairly. Well, if you mean me, you’re forgiven. Not that there’s anything to forgive. Well, how about the fact that I was a total witch the first time you offered to be our surrogate? I didn’t really think it through. I-I didn’t really understand what was at stake. Molly and I were both pretty raw in those first weeks. Neither one of us made an honest effort to see where you were coming from. Yeah, but especially me. I mean, I-I’ve realized that my reaction back then had a lot less to do with you and a lot more to do with me being messy and irrational. Two things that I try to avoid. It hurt that you can carry a child and I can’t, and that it would be easy for you. It just doubled down on my pain. Which makes no sense, I know. Please. I wrote the book on being messy and irrational. And if you would have taken me up on my original offer, it would have been a huge mistake. We weren’t ready. As painful as it was going through this process, it made us ready. You know, I am ready and I want to do this. Thank you. I’m so lucky to have you as my sister. And as my surrogate.

[ Chuckles ] I am the lucky one. I really do want to be clear about this. You lied to me. And because you lied, I-I had no idea that the intruder in my apartment was your daughter. You’re right. You’re right. I take full responsibility. But you withheld information, too. You’re far too good an agent to shoot at point-blank range without a confirmed target. Oh, man. She got us, though. Detention, and we had to decorate the entire auditorium for christmas all by ourselves. We were there until 3:00 A.M. Well, 3:17, but who’s counting? Oh, and when we came out that morning and our parents were waiting for us… I don’t think I’ve ever seen my mother so angry. But my father, he was disappointed. And somehow, that was so much worse. I know, I got a speech all the way home. I can still hear it. “Your cousin connie would never do anything like this.” Because your cousin connie never stepped a toe out of line. Although, I got to say, I wished I had followed your cousin connie, because I was grounded. I was grounded with a 5:00 P.M. Curfew until the following april. And by the way, you were supposed to be grounded, too. I was grounded, technically. Mm-hmm. Do you remember my bedroom window? It was a joke. I know! You snuck out of that room so easily, it might as well have been on the ground floor. Yes, right out the window and out to the nightclubs in the city all night long. Oh, your poor parents. Honestly, I think back, lois… honestly, I really feel bad for all the worries I gave them. But you know what? At the time… mm? …I really enjoyed myself. Yeah, you did.

[ Both laugh ] Okay, I grabbed the tree, I got some garland. Where do you want them? Well, I am so glad you asked. Flight attendant: Ladies and gentlemen, please bring your seats completely upright and fasten your tray tables. Kindly make sure that your belongings are safely stowed under the seat in front of you. We will be coming through the cabin to do a final check as we prepare for landing. Damn you, luke spencer. I miss you.

I don’t think you’re in any position to tell me what charlotte needs right now. She needs counseling. She was stalking me for months. That is not normal behavior. You saw the letter from victor. You know that her actions were not malicious. Maybe not, but they are unquestionably illegal. She thought she was protecting me. She thought that you were a threat. You’re not doing her any favors by making excuses for her. You’re enabling her. Anna, she was manipulated by a master manipulator. Victor exploited her love for her father, her need for a family. She thought that you were dangerous. And then, of course, when he released your file and the world knew that you had been acting as a double agent — oh, don’t throw that in my face, please. I’m not. But you can’t refute it. It was true. She thought she was protecting me. Think about that. A teenage girl standing against a master spy. So, we can say what we will about my daughter, but she’s not a coward. She did what she thought she had to do. And what, you’re proud of her? I’m appalled at what she did. But I’m proud of her courage. I’m proud of her determination. I’m sickened that victor twisted her for his purposes. Well, he didn’t tell her to write the word “murderer” on my door. Or break into my hotel suite and trash my clothes and write a threatening message on my mirror. Charlotte came up with that all on her own. I can’t believe this is actually gonna happen. Sometimes the universe finds a way. All I know is I’m grateful, ’cause this feels right. Okay, okay. I think it’s high time the expectant parents celebrated up.

[ Both chuckle ] Mama q, could you hand me some wire, please? Yeah. Here you go. Thank you. I have been meaning to ask you, why do you call olivia mama q? Well, she’s dante’s mother. What else would I call her? If you say “zia,” I will murder you right there where you’re standing. I’m just sayin’! What’s a zia?

[ Laughing ] Now that the tree is lit, we can start hanging ornaments. Uh, before we get to the real decorating, brook lynn and i have an announcement to make. Can you announce fast? We need to decorate. Violet! This may be important.

[ Laughs ] Don’t rush them. Uncle chase, brook lynn, I apologize. Please take as much time as you need. Thank you. I think you should do the honors. Okay. Dad, finn, violet, elizabeth… brook lynn has agreed to be my wife, and we are getting married. Ohh! Yay! Oh, what?! Yes! That’s amazing!

[ Laughs ] I still don’t get it. Okay. Zia means “auntie,” right? Which could refer to your mother or your father’s sister. Or — or your sister-in-law. Uh-huh, or it could be a distant cousin or any female relation. But it could also be a term of affection. Or — or someone, a woman that you are close to, but you’re not actually related to. But there is a generational aspect to it. It’s for somebody older. For example, you would never refer to my brookie as zia. Right, but I — I could call you zia?

[ Laughs ] Uh, no. He’s got you there, though. No, but — I don’t mean — okay, hold on one second. Because technically yes, but absolutely no, you cannot. I would prefer it if you continued to call me lois. Totally understand, lois. Aww, honey, this tree looks so beautiful. It does. It’s so nice having you here to help out. Hey, it’s my pleasure.

Charlotte needs limits. Oh, limits… she’ll get them. She needs counseling, and she’ll have that, too. But we have a big problem. Victor convinced charlotte that you were dangerous. And you shot her. So in charlotte’s mind, victor was right. I hope you get through to your daughter and that you get her to understand that victor was never right about anything. Anna, wait. I’m sorry. So am I.

[ Door closes ]

[ Muffled sobs ] That is one gorgeous tree. Mm-hmm. Might be the best tree I’ve ever seen. It certainly is lovely. You were right, brook lynn. When you make a wish on a christmas tree, your wish comes true. Mine already did. What did you wish for, sweetheart? Is it okay to tell? Absolutely. I wished for this to be the best christmas ever.
