He never hustled anybody who wasn’t greedy. Well, the same couldn’t be said for his mother, beatrice leseur. She was a gold-digger — and probably the real source for grandfather’s grudge against jimmy lee. But, you know, none of that matters. Your father was cut out of the will — period. And none of us have the power to cut you back in. Edward did. Edward had the power.

[ Chuckles ] You know, I really wish he had put jimmy lee into the will. Then we wouldn’t be having this conversation. Austin! You won’t accept money. What will you accept? Short of voting shares. I think you’re scared, ned. I think you’re afraid I’m gonna win the lawsuit. Why’s that? Did something change? Did the quartermaines finally discover that edward wanted to revise his will after all? This is basically a deal memo… from the lawyer to my great-grandfather following up on a conversation where they discussed changing his will. My family was worried something like this might exist. How about that? But you know what this isn’t? It’s not a will. And it isn’t signed. I mean, edward might have changed his mind as soon as he got off the phone with the lawyer. But you know what? We’ll never find out, because he’s dead. And the only will that counts is the one that clearly states that jimmy lee holt is cut out — and all of his issue — that means all of his descendants.

[ Sighs ] Don’t tell me. Tell it to a judge in probate court. First of all, where did you find this? You went looking in my great-grandfather’s office, didn’t you? Why? Austin got to you. Why would you help him? If you value my friendship, chase, you will tell me the truth. Okay, fine. I took the document for austin.

What good would that do him? You know, that is a fair point. I mean, it’s not as though cyrus is eliminating witnesses. Getting rid of laura and me does nothing to improve his circumstances. I would speculate his motives are of a more personal nature. He had months to stew about his incarceration and what brought him down… and plenty of time to nurture his resentment against the siblings whose love and acceptance he craved. And who turned against him in the end. I’m sure that’s how he sees it. For my part, I wish my brother never existed. The bottom line is, the two of you are in danger. What can we do about that? I’m right, aren’t I? You found something in edward’s will. There’s nothing specific in the letters. But if grandfather had left a record somewhere intending to change the will in jimmy lee’s favor, well, that might just give austin’s case a leg to stand on. I am just trying to save us all the expense and inconvenience of fighting this out in the courts — a fight you will surely lose. You’re awfully confident. You have no documentation that edward wanted to change his will and put jimmy lee in it. Your whole case is built on a pipe dream. Well, that remains to be seen. Wha– wha– what do you know that I don’t? Why would you throw my family under the bus for austin, with some guy that you barely know? The correspondence between edward quartermaine and his attorney show that edward wanted to add jimmy lee back into his will. And edward must have thought it was important, because he saved it. You know, I’m kind of surprised that monica and ned didn’t take the time to search the office when austin made his intentions known. Yeah, probably because they never thought in a million years that my great-grandfather would change his will over jimmy lee holt — I mean, someone who he specifically went out of his way to disinherit. And you never answered my question. What’s going on between you and austin? Why are you willing to help him? To get back at michael. I hate that I let this whole thing get so out of control. Eh, what does it say about me that I let this go on for so long? Forced all of us to live a lie? Willow. Babe…

[ Sighs ] It says that you were put into an impossible situation where no decision you could have made would have been the right one. Just admit it — I’m a terrible person. And then… the line just went dead. Listen, maxie, if it’s really difficult for you to stay away from louise — and I completely get that — then why don’t you stay in texas a little longer with your family? Nina… I dream about my little girl every night. Louise, georgie, james, and I, we’ll be together — playing a game… singing a song… laughing. And then, I wake up. And I have tears streaming down my cheeks, and my heart feels like it’s breaking into a million pieces. I am so sorry. I have to see her again. But not like before. You know, I’m not gonna make up really lame excuses to stop by the quartermaine house and steal precious moments with my daughter. I have to be stronger. And I’m almost ready, nina. I’m almost there. Okay, so, what will make you fully ready? What can I do to help? Well, I was hoping you’d let me stay in nixon falls with you.

Hmm… you want to get back at michael? Willow went to the gatehouse on wiley’s birthday. I could tell she was upset because her mom just stopped by out of nowhere. And…? I asked austin to help me to the gatehouse. And when I got there, michael’s shirt had been tossed aside, and so had his belt. Hey, maybe wiley spilled something on michael, and willow was just helping him clean up.

[ Clears throat ] When michael and willow left, I went up to willow’s room, and there was no question — they’d been sleeping together. Chase, I’m so sorry. And then, this morning, I heard — I heard willow on the phone talking to michael, saying she wanted to see him. And she sounded so desperate to see him in private. I mean, they lied to me, brook lynn. They lied to me. Michael, he was my friend. I trusted him. And willow… I loved her more than anything in the world. And they lied to me. And austin convinced you that michael has to pay. Except you’re not just hurting michael, chase. You’re hurting the rest of my family, too. Willow, I absolutely believe that chase should know the truth, but I th– I thought we were waiting till he could walk again. I thought so, too. But I can’t — I can’t keep going like this. I haven’t been able to sleep. I’m distracted at the hospital. I… I can’t live with myself anymore. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know how you feel. I hate lying. And chase — chase has been a good friend to me — the closest friend I’ve had since my brother morgan died. And now… he’s gonna think that I betrayed him — that I took away the one person that he — he loves the most. And you know what? He’s not wrong. But he is not right, either. No, michael, all you did was go along with my decision. Yeah, and all you did was try and help chase when he needed you. Look, two things can be true, willow. And the… the one truly wrong thing that we did was let chase go on believing that he has a future with you when he doesn’T. That’s a nice way of saying we lied to him. Yeah, but not out of malice, not with the intent to do harm. We lied to chase for his own good. And I — I might argue that we actually helped him in the beginning. All right? His love for you gave him incentive to recover. I mean, who knows if — if he would have made that progress without you? Okay, maybe. But at this point, the longer I wait, the more chase will be hurt, okay? He has a right to know the truth, and I have to be brave enough to tell him. I just wanted to tell you first. Thank you for backing me. Yeah, of course. Always.

[ Sighs ] Good. Okay. Time to go find chase. Willow, uh, wait. And the fbi has a team in place ready to take you both into protective custody. Protective… what about our families? I mean, cyrus has a history of going after loved ones to get back at his enemies. The pcpd has been alerted, and your families will be under surveillance. But the fbi has informed me that this threat was directed specifically at the two of you. Well, can’t the fbi just move us to a-a-a safe house in port charles? I’m afraid not. They need to take you to an undisclosed location. Not even I will know where you are.

[ Sighs ] When will this happen? Jordan: Immediately. The threat to laura and martin is imminent. Now, wait. Wait a minute. What about my mother? She’ll worry when she can’t see me and — and — and as fond as cyrus claims to be of her, he could change his mind, decide to go after her as well. The fbi will keep an eye on florence at her assisted living facility. No, no, no, no, no. She’ll — she’ll be confused. I need to explain the situation. I’m afraid not. You’re not gonna be able to contact her. Look, I’m sure that martin has cases pending. I have a city to run. How are we gonna be able to work? Can’t you work remotely and just delegate the rest to your deputies? Do I get a choice here? I’m sorry, laura. I know that this is difficult. All right. I’m going with you. Oh, that’s one of a million reasons why I love you so much. But I need you to stay here. Did the caller say where he was? Um, no. Dante had the pcpd tech trace the call, but no luck. You think it was drew cain? Yes, I believe it was drew. Look, you had a brief conversation. It was a bad connection. You obviously want drew to still be alive. Is someone manipulating you? I mean, it’s possible. But to what end? To lure you somewhere. To throw you off an existing investigation. We did think of that as being a possibility, but it still doesn’t tell us who was on the other end of that line. And you think peter’s involved? Sounds to me like something peter could be involved with. Well, we all know that peter arranged for drew’s plane to go down. If drew survived the crash… peter will be desperate to find him… and shut him up for good. You’re my hero, nina. You’ve been through so much, and you always come out on the other side. I feel like I need to stay here so I can soak up some of that strength. Believe me, maxie, I am no hero.

[ Sighs ] I make mistakes all the time. I mean, I’m probably making a mistake right now. Who knows? [ Laughs ] Okay, I know that you regret telling wiley that willow is not his real mom. But instead of moping around after michael said you couldn’t see wiley anymore, you came here and made a new life for yourself. I ran away. You found happiness. And I need to know what that feels like. I need to stay here so you can help me get the courage I need to go home and be at peace with my decision to leave louise with brook lynn.

[ Cellphone chimes ] Uh, sorry. Is, uh, that from your new guy? I’m sorry, maxie… but you have to leave — now.

[ Laughs ] Hey, just keep it dry and, uh, set up a follow-up appointment for next week, please. Oh, I-I-I was just gonna take him to his regular pediatrician. Please don’T. Please bring him to me. It’s very important to me that I finish the things that I start. You and your family want to cling to every penny in the vault. Please. This is not about the money for me. Then what’s it about, brook lynn? I don’t want austin waltzing in here staking claim to elq shares when I had to do a lot to gain control of elq for my father. This is my dad’s legacy — not jimmy lee holt’s, and definitely not austin’S. Not according to edward quartermaine. Before he got sick, he was gonna add jimmy lee back into the will. Okay, but he got sick and didn’t, so the point is moot. Maybe a judge will think otherwise. What happened to you, chase? Are you in that much pain that the only way to relieve it is by hurting michael and the rest of us qs as collateral damage? You can survive the loss of a few shares of elq. Michael invited you to live here. My family opened their hearts to you. Why turn your back on us? Michael only invited me to ease his guilty conscience. You’re better than this, chase. You save people. You don’t betray them. Look, take it from me. I have been where you are — doing dumb things and — and hurting people just out of spite. So I know from experience that hurting michael and willow is not gonna heal your pain. Willow: But what is there to wait for? Every day that passes — every minute — the lie gets worse. I know, and I agree. Chase needs to know the truth. But you’re not doing this alone. We’re in this together. No, I’m the one who married him, okay? I’m the one who took those vows and made those promises. I’m the one who lied. I have to take responsibility. Michael: Willow… look, I was best man at your wedding. I could have objected then. I could have told the truth at any time, but I didn’T. And I also chose to stay close to you, to spend time with you, and t-to keep loving you and building our bond together. I am every bit as responsible for this as you are. Won’t it be even more painful for chase if we tell him together?

[ Sighs ] Well, willow, it’s gonna be painful, no matter what. I know that the first thing that we can do to make this right is to stop playing god with chase’s life and deciding what he can and cannot handle. And, willow, look, I am — I am so incredibly grateful that you — that you chose me. But if things were different — if you would have left me for chase? I– I-I-I-I-I would want him to face me. So, the least I can do is face him. Are you sure you’re not just trying to protect me?

[ Scoffs ] Well, I-I’m always gonna try to protect you, but that’s — that’s not what this is. Now, willow, we love each other for better or worse… and we should do this together. Yeah?

[ Sighs ] I think we have to definitelyentertain the possibility that these two men are still alive — drew and peter. In which case, drew desperately needs our help. Okay, look, I-I know you can’t involve me in a wsb investigation, but if you could possibly, maybe let me see a file, I could find something about the plane crash that was previously overlooked. It would be a — a great place to start. Can you help me? Maxie: You want me to leave? Uh, no. Ye– yes. I mean, no — listen. Nixon falls is a wonderful place, but staying here is not gonna solve your problems.

[ Scoffs ] Didn’t it solve yours? Think about james and georgie. You miss them already. Yeah, I do. But what if I don’t have the strength to stay away from louise? It took a lot of courage for you to give your baby to brook lynn. You’ve already proved that you have strength. Listen…don’t doubt yourself, maxie. You can do anything. And, listen, I don’t want you to use nixon falls as an escape… …the way that I have.

[ Keys clacking ] You do know they’re gonna feed you at the safe house, right? Oh, well, I suspect the fbi’s taste don’t run to croissants. How much longer should we give them? I love you. I love you. I’m so sorry about this. Not your fault. I don’t deserve you.

[ Chuckles ] You got that right.

[ Sighs ] Staying here would just be another version of running away, like texas was. Yes. [ Chuckles ] But, nina, is something wrong? I mean, I kind of feel like you’re regretting your time here. No, of course not. It’s just — it’s really hard to explain. Look, I don’t have to leave right now. I mean, we could grab dinner or something, and you could tell me all about your life in nixon falls — and your guy, mike, of course. Um, I’m sorry, maxie. It’s just, I-I — I c– I can’T. Uh, my friend phyllis, she really needs me. She — she, um, just lost her husband. Oh, my god. I’m so sorry. Yeah, he had health issues, but it was still unexpected. Not like we’re ever prepared to lose people that we love. No, yeah. You should, um, definitely be with your friend. I don’t know, I just missed you, and I guess I wanted to spend as much time with you as I could. Yeah. Maxie… I know that everything you’re doing to protect louise is really difficult for you, but I want you to call me if you ever need to talk things out. And, also, remember this — you left louise with people who can protect her and keep her safe. You’re right — as usual. Valentin and brook lynn are the best protection my daughter has, and that’s a lie worth keeping. Yeah. See? You’ve already taught me how to be strong. Who loves ya? This guy.

[ Laughing ] Ditto.

Nina: It’s so empty in here. Hey, Mike, you were really great yesterday, helping Phyllis with the arrangements at the funeral home. Holding her hand…I don’t know how you did it.

Sonny: Well, she needed it. That’s what people do. Just like you, you– she didn’t want to be alone. Last night, you spent the night with her. At times of crisis, uh, people step up.

Nina: Yeah. It was really great to see all their friends that came out to support Phyllis, and remember Lenny — decorated war veteran and native son of Nixon Falls. People of this town really, really loved him.

Sonny: And he loved this town, and the people in it. That’s really all that matters, right?

Nina: What’s that?

Sonny: Loving others and being loved.

Josslyn: I’m going to Kelly’s. Sutton’s going to take me.

Carly: Hey, hey, hey! What’s the rush?

Josslyn: Well, I want to hear about the rest of Spencer’s party from Trina.

Josslyn: Yeah, well, that’s the only way Spencer does things — big and over the top. But once you realized that Tony was going to drop us off at home, you could not get away fast enough. Why were you in such a hurry, and who were you meeting?

Cameron: Hey. Uh, we left the island so late last night, I figured she’s just sleeping in. So, what did we miss? Did Spencer’s dad have any more crazy surprises besides that knife trick that he pulled? Hey. Are you okay? Did something worse happen last night? Do we need to reach out to Spencer?

Trina: I wouldn’t worry.  Despite what his father did — Spencer is definitely not alone.

Cameron: What do you mean?

Trina: Let’s just say, Spencer has a much bigger support system than any of us realized.

Valentin: I have not “dribbled toothpaste.” This is Bailey’s baby formula. She loves it when Daddy makes silly faces and gets her to finish her bottle.

Brook Lynn: You really are in love with that little girl, aren’t you?

Valentin: Who wouldn’t be?

Michael: …frantically tearing the room apart, looking for his favorite car. And, uh, then I noticed that he stopped crying, so, I, uh…

Michael: Yeah.  Yeah, he, uh, got my phone.

Willow: No! Michael, you promised me…

Michael: Oh, hey, Chase! Uh, sorry, I didn’t know you were here.

Chase: Don’t stop what you’re doing. Not on my account.

Sonny: So quiet.

Nina: Yes, it is quiet. Lenny would hate this.

Sonny: [Laughs] You know, Lenny loved his customers.

Nina: Mm-hmm.

Sonny: He welcomed the strangers, and you know his music. He played that jukebox every morning. His favorite song! [Chuckles]

Nina: Yes! And when he thought – thought – no one was looking, he would dance with a broom.

Sonny: Mm-hmm. [Laughs]

Nina: But his favorite was dancing with his wife. I can still see them over there, dancing their last dance.

Sonny: You know, I use– I used to watch them and think to myself, “I would love to have that one day.”

Nina: You’re right. They were very lucky that they had love, for a very long time.

Sonny: Nothing can change that. Not even death.

Carly: Well, we got back pretty late last night, and then I had a pressing engagement.

Josslyn: With Jason?

Carly: Yes, with Jason. How did you know?

Josslyn: Because you guys are engaged, and it’s not unusual for engaged people to want to hang out. Okay.

Carly: [Laughs]

Josslyn: All right.  On that note, I’m gonna go to Kelly’s now.

Carly: Josslyn, wait. There’s something I need to tell you, and, uh, well, it also involves your brother.

Willow: Chase, are you ready for me to take you out into the yard, so you can work on your physical therapy?

Chase: Oh, I got up early. I already did my morning routine.

Michael: Oh, wow. Sounds like you’re making progress.

Chase: I’m getting stronger every day. Then again, I’ve got great motivation.

[Phone chimes]

Michael: Sorry, one second. Ah, it’s my mom. She wants me to swing by the house. Something important.

Willow: Tell your mom I said hello.

Michael: Yeah, I will. See you, guys.

Chase: Do you want to go with Michael?

Willow: Why would I?

Chase: He said it was important, and I know how much he means to you.

Laura: It’s very sweet of you and your friend to go to all this trouble.

Spencer: It’s the least we can do after you and Kevin took us in last night.

Esmé: I did my research on my cell, and I was thrilled to find an excellent pâtisserie that serves an excellent croissant.

Spencer: Esmé is very resourceful. You have no idea.

Esmé: I wasn’t there long before your stepmom got all frantic, so I followed her from the gallery for the hospital. When I got there, I overheard your father telling Ava that he was faking a trip to Dubai so that he could trick you.

Spencer: And you didn’t think to call, or text, or give me any kind of heads up?

Esmé: Almost. But then I overheard Ava asking your grandmother to head over to Wyndemere, and that’s when I got my beautiful, brilliant brainwave.

Spencer: What brainwave?

Esmé: I set Ava’s car on fire.

Laura: I hope you found the guest room comfortable.

Esmé: Oh, I slept like a baby. But, um, I know the three of you have lots of catching up to do, so, I’m going to explore Spencer’s hometown.

Spencer: Oh.

Esmé: à bientôt.

Kevin: Au revoir.

Spencer: On second thought, maybe I’ll catch up with her and play tour guide.

Laura: You know what? Your friend seems perfectly capable of exploring on her own. I’m just curious — why haven’t you mentioned her before?

Anna: Valentin and I — we have a very long, very complicated history.

Martin: And it’s not all in the past. You recently took a trip to New York together, didn’t you? On the trail of Peter August. I mean, one can only hope you were successful.

Anna: We were following up on some leads, which ultimately didn’t pan out.

Martin: Would you put your relationship with Valentin in that same category?

Anna: What’s it to you, Mr. Grey?

Martin: Oh, please… “Mr. Grey.” Call me Martin. Better yet, call me Marty. All my friends do.

Anna: You consider me a friend?

Martin: I hope we’re moving in that direction. Matter of fact…may I be honest?

Anna: I’m not sure I can stop you.

Martin: I’ve long been fascinated by the mystique of Anna Devane. I’d surely love to get to know you better, and vice versa.

Anna: Marty, are you hitting on me?

Willow: Of course Michael’s important to me. He’s Wiley’s father.

Chase: Right. That’s what you share with Michael – Wiley.

Valentin: Just saying my daughter lights up when I walk into a room.

Brook Lynn: Okay, and I’m telling you, she doesn’t recognize you. She just has gas.

Willow: Boy, do you two ever agree on anything?

Valentin: Just that we both created, a, uh, spectacular baby girl.

Brook Lynn: Sadly, other than that, we don’t agree on much else — least of all, Austin Gatlin-Holt’s bogus claim to ELQ shares.

Valentin: Austin’s lawsuit may be an inconvenience to the Quartermaine family, but that doesn’t mean it’s without merit.

Brook Lynn: Spoken by the guy who’s keeping Austin in play, just by the off-chance that he wins his case and gets ELQ shares. Just so he can potentially be a vote to keep you as CEO.

Chase: Not that anyone asked my opinion, but..I have my point of view.

Brook Lynn: Okay, well… you’re a neutral observer. I, for one, welcome your input.

Chase: I hate to disappoint you, Brook Lynn, but I am far from neutral. It’s true, I’m not a Quartermaine, so I don’t have a vested interest in the outcome. But I will always side with the guy who’s being kept in the dark.

Brook Lynn: We only have Austin’s word to go on that he’s being denied his birthright. Okay, the will that was made by my great-grandfather Edward was very clear: Jimmy Lee Holt was cut out; wouldn’t get a dime. They definitely didn’t want him anywhere near ELQ.

Chase: What if there was proof that Edward Quartermaine changed his mind? That he intended to alter the will to include Austin’s father?

Valentin: Chase, you’re the detective. Do you have proof?

Brook Lynn: No, he doesn’t. Because there isn’t any. If there was, Austin would have already produced it.

Valentin: Well, as it happens, I’m having lunch with Austin, so maybe he’ll produce evidence then.

Brook Lynn: [Sighs]

Chase: I’m–I’m sorry if I spoke out of turn.

Brook Lynn: I’m not angry at you, Chase – especially when you’re speaking from the heart.

[Bailey cries on the monitor]

Brook Lynn: That’s Bailey. Excuse me.

Chase: Look, I know you have class this morning, so you don’t have to stick around on my account.

Willow: I’m leaving soon, but I hope you know that Brook Lynn was right. You do have a big heart.

Chase: Is that why you love me?

Martin: You’ll have to forgive me. We can’t all be as suave and debonair as our friend, Valentin.

Anna: Hmm.

Martin: Come to think of it, his– even his name sounds romantic. But speaking of myself, I’ve never shied away from challenges of the fairer sex. From where I’m sitting, you, Anna Devane, are one of the fairest of them all.

Anna: Says the man who’s had six wives.

Martin: Oh, come on, now. Be fair. That was Henry VIII. I, myself, have only had three. And, we’re all on speaking terms. What does that tell you?

Anna: That you got a good deal on alimony.

Martin: You are disconcertingly perceptive.

Anna: You’re quite charming.

Martin: Does that mean I’m making any headway?

Anna: Your interest is duly noted.

Martin: Well, I’ll take that as a definite maybe.

Laura: Esmé seems like a very nice girl. I’m assuming you met her at school?

Spencer: Yes. At first, I thought she was too cool for me. Uh, it’s not like I’ve had very many girlfriends. But we hit it off.

Laura: Ah.

Kevin: Well, maybe she thought you were cool, too.

Laura: Of course she thought he was cool. He’s my grandson.

Spencer: Bless you, Grandmother, but it’s not like you’re the most objective source.

Laura: [Chuckles] You have your father’s charm. You always have.

Spencer: I hope that’s all I inherited from my father.

Laura: Oh, Spencer, your father does love you very much. I hope you know that.

Spencer: Well, he has a warped way of showing it. Either he’s pretending he’s dead, or he’s pretending to stab me, but either way, I’m done.

Laura: [Sighs] You’re hurt, you’re angry, and with very good reason. It was wrong of him to accuse you of being Ava’s stalker, and it was even more wrong of him to have staged that– that attack. I don’t know what he was trying to do…trying to make you see the error of your ways…? I don’t know.

Kevin: I admit, I was beginning to wonder if Nikolas was right. Your dislike of Avavis pretty well known.

Spencer: I don’t love that you thought that I could be guilty, but I can appreciate that you can admit that you were wrong.

Kevin: Well, it’s not even remotely the same thing, but if you can see your way to forgive me, I wonder if there’s any chance that you can do the same for your father?

Spencer: I don’t mean to be rude, but I do not have the energy, nor the emotional bandwidth to think about my father at the moment. Right now my top priority is figuring out where Esmé and I are going to live.

Laura: Spencer, wait.

Spencer: Yes, Grandmother.

Laura: [Sighs] As I said, Esmé is a lovely girl, and she’s shown very good taste in dating you, but there is no way that you and Esmé are going to live together.

Trina: Last night was weird. Obviously. Beyond weird. And that was before Esmé showed up.

Cameron: Who’s Esmé?

Esmé: Hi, Trina. Good to see you again. Could either one of you direct me to the Museum of Fine Art?

Trina: Around here, we call it The Chuck. And it’s good to see you, too. This is Cameron Webber. Cam, meet Esmé Prince.

Cameron: Hi, Esmé. Um, I don’t know if Spencer mentioned it, but he and are sort of cousins. We share the same grandmother, but we’re not actually related.

Esmé: [Laughs] Oh, you are exactly the way Spence described you, Cameron.

Cameron: I am?

Esmé: Spence and I share everything.

Michael: So, what did I miss?

Josslyn: I don’t know. She wouldn’t tell me until you got here.

Carly: I wanted you to both to hear it at the same time, all right? Last night I had a wakeup call.

Josslyn: Really? Spencer’s party was a wakeup call?

Carly: This has nothing to do with the party. Last night, Jason and I realized we don’t need or want a long engagement. But I wanted you guys to be the first to know: we’re getting married September 17th.

Josslyn: [Gasps] Oh, my God! That is so cool!

Carly: [Chuckles]

Josslyn: Here’s to the future Mrs. Jason Morgan. My God…

Sonny: It’s a beautiful idea, this memorial wall. You know, everything from Lenny’s past life.

Nina: Yeah. Let’s take a look. Wow, look at all this stuff.

Sonny: Oh!

Nina: What is that?

Sonny: Ah!

[Both Laugh]

Sonny: Dog tags! I mean, he was so proud of being a marine, to serve our country.

Nina: Yeah. Let’s leave those out, okay? That’s definitely going on the wall?

Sonny: Yeah. Yeah, sure.

Nina: Oh, wait. Look at this. You know what these are? Down here? These… Oh! These are postcards that he would write Phyllis when he was overseas. Look at this!

Sonny: [Laughs] Ah. Look at this. The wedding. He’s in his uniform and she’s got the white dress on.

Nina: Awww! They look so young. Happy. Mike? What’s wrong? Talk to me. Mike, what’s wrong?

Nina:  Talk to me.

Sonny: No, no, don’t. Uh…For a second, I thought that I– I remembered something. Remember the blonde woman, I told you… she had a wedding bouquet. Maybe it wa–it wasn’t a memory. Maybe it was just a vision of my future.

Nina: Was the vision good or bad?

Sonny: It was good. It was very good. [Chuckles]

Josslyn: Mom! That is so exciting. Why aren’t you jumping up and down like I am?

Michael: [Chuckles] Hey, inside, I’m doing backflips.

[Josslyn and Carly laugh]

Carly: Oh, gosh.

Michael: Congratulations, Mom.

Carly: Aw, thank you.

Josslyn: Okay, um, I have to go tell Cam and Trina. [Laughs]

Carly: Okay, bye!

Michael: You know, uh, you and Jason aren’t giving yourselves much time to plan the wedding.

Carly: Yeah.

Michael: What am I saying? You’re not giving yourself enough time. Jason is going to just show up and do whatever you tell him.

Carly: I’m sure we can pull something together by September 17th.

Michael: Okay.

Carly: Especially if we keep it small.

Michael: Okay. Well, good. Yeah, isn’t the point of getting married to Jason to send a message? Shouldn’t the whole wedding be, you know, a big deal?

Carly: [Sighs]

Spencer: Grandmother, I never thought of you as a puritan before.

Laura: I’m not. I’m far from it. But you cannot go from your high school dormitory to moving in with Esmé.

Kevin: Spencer, last night your father shook the ground underneath you. It’s only natural that you would want to spend time with someone that you can count on.

Spencer: I appreciate the concern – and the counseling – but I assure you that Esmé and I will not be moving in together.

Laura: You’re not?

Spencer: No. I’d planned on offering her a room at Wyndemere…lord knows that there are plenty to choose from. Of course, that’s out the window now. I need to help her find a place here in town.

Laura: For how long? Do her parents know about these plans? And how do you plan to finance this independent lifestyle of yours?

Spencer: I have money.

Laura: No, your father has money. He took control of your trust fund. Now, he may grant you access to it, but would you even want it? Would you take money from your father with one hand, and push him back with the other?

Anna: As honored as I am, I am not in the market for any romantic entanglements.

Martin: Oh,well,  just for my own clariifcation, if I may be so bold. Is it because you’re not interested, or because you’re already romantically entangled?

Anna: You know, do you approach every situation in your life like an attorney? Because I feel like I’m being cross-examined.

Martin: Oh, forgive me. I’m sorry. But I find we all bring a little bit of the professional life into the personal. For instance, you, with your life. With your training in the WSB, are you always more comfortable with your secrets and difflections rather than answering a simple, heartfelt question?

Anna: Uh, touché.  Hmm. There are people who consider my lack of transparency a deal-breaker.

Martin: I’m not one of them. I flatter myself that you and I were made to dance together. Hell, just for the chance, I’d even let you lead.

Anna: [Chuckles]

Brook Lynn: Valentin loves you so much. He so much just wants to be a good daddy to you. Let’s face it, he’s succeeding. Oh, Bailey, what am I going to do when Peter is finally caught and punished, and Maxie gets to bring you home with her forever? How am I ever going to explain that to Valentin? What’s gonna happen to me? [Sighs] Let’s face it, kiddo. You’re all I’ve got right now.

Chase: Our– our marriage began under dire circumstances. You thought I was gonna die. Everybody did. And then when I survived, and I found out that I couldn’t walk–

Willow: Chase, I married you because I wanted to.

Chase: Yeah, and that’s–that’s pretty generous, considering I made you believe that I cheated on you with Sasha.

Willow: Only because you wanted me to be with Wiley, and once I found out the truth, I could only be grateful.

Chase: I never stopped loving you.

Willow: I know.

Chase: Even now. Even when…

Willow: Even when what?

Chase: [Sighs] Um…even when I’m not the man that I was.

Willow: Chase, you are still that man, okay? You are getting better and you will walk again. Okay? I absolutely believe that. So nothing’s changed.

Chase: Really? Nothing?

Anna: Tell you what, the next time I’m in the market for an attorney, I’ll give you a call.

Martin: I hope so. And the next time I need a little help with some cloak and dagger, I’ll make sure to return the favor. Who knows, maybe one day I can bail you out of trouble, and you can turn around and help me get into some.

Anna: Stranger things have happened.

Valentin:  Hey, kids. What am I interrupting?

Martin: We’re not sure, but it was getting interesting.

Anna: I have to go make a call. Marty, will you save my chair?

Martin: Oh, you can count on it.

Anna: Thank you. Valentin.

Martin: That is one amazing woman. The kind you take home to mother.

Valentin:  Not my mother. What are you doing? You’re not getting ideas about Anna Devane, are you?

Martin: If I was, what would that mean to you?

Spencer:  From now on, I’m gonna take care of myself.

Laura: Are you going to ask Cameron to put in a good word for you at Kelly’s so you can join him in busing tables?

Spencer:  I hope you’re joking.

Laura: I’m not.

Kevin:  Well, nothing wrong with an honest day’s work, but I think the point your grandmother is trying to make is that it isn’t healthy to be walking around with all this unresolved anger toward your father.

Spencer:  What’s been left that’s unresolved? After last night, I want nothing to do with my father or his money.

[ Door slams ]

Laura: [ Sighs ] Well, you’re the expert. How can I help him when it’s so clear that he doesn’t want my help? And just like his father, he has no idea how badly he needs it.

Esmé: I’ll take an iced tea when you get a chance.

Josslyn: You guys, I’ve got the most exciting news.

Trina: We have news, too.

Cameron:  Not what, but who.

Trina:  Josslyn jacks, meet Esmé Prince.

Esmé: Nice to meet you. I’ve never met a Josslyn before. Certainly not the way you spell it. You know, “Josslyn” with the two S’s.

Josslyn: Huh. Do I know you?

Esmé: Spence has told me all about you. Everything from your scar from your kidney transplant to your Australian roots to your mad volleyball skills. I even know all about your family’s quote/unquote “coffee business.”

Josslyn: So I, uh, I take it that you went to school with Spencer?

Trina: Oh, more than that. Esmé is Spence’s girlfriend.

Nina: Look at this.

Sonny: Aww.

Nina: A picture of Phyllis, Lenny, you, and me on our way to the firehouse dance.

Sonny: Mm-hmm. It’s sweet. We’re all dressed up, ready to go to the dance. We’re preserved forever.

Nina: Oh, Mike. Nothing lasts forever.

Sonny: You don’t believe in the afterlife? You think this is all there is? You don’t think Lenny is somewhere looking down on us?

Nina: I don’t know.

Sonny: You know what I believe? I believe that our souls and our spirits… they continue on even after we’re gone.

Nina: I’d like to believe that.

Sonny: I found you. And now, you know, I’m not gonna lose you. What we have, what we will have, it’s gonna live on.

Nina: No, I’m sorry. I’m sorry. This is — this is wrong.

Carly: I don’t know what to do. I mean, you’re absolutely right. This wedding is supposed to make a huge statement, right? We’re supposed to prove to the Five Families and the rest of the world that Jason and I are committed. But I would much rather have a small, little gathering with the people I love the most. You know?

Michael: Yeah, well. Look, part of the reason that you and Jason are getting married is to keep Josslyn and her little sister safe.

Carly: Yeah.

Michael: So they get to dress up and go to a party for their two favorite people. And look, it’s not like you and Jason don’t already love each other in your own way. And who knows where this could lead, right? ‘Cause, see, Willow and I, we got married for Wiley’s sake, and then before we knew it, it turned into something real.

Carly: Right. And then Chase got sick, and Willow married him.

Michael: [ Scoffs ]

Carly: Michael? Is there something you want to tell me?

Willow: What’s never going to change is that I want you to be happy.

Chase: You make me happy.

Willow: Do I, Chase?

Chase: You know you make me happy. Even being stuck in this chair, nobody makes me feel like I’m on top of the world like you do.

Willow: That’s a lot of responsibility to put on someone. One slip, and you can go from the top of the world —

Chase: Yeah, I’ve been there. Rock bottom.

Willow: You mean when you and Sasha pretended to have an affair and we broke up?

Chase: What else would I be talking about?

Willow: But see, you survived that. You learned to live again.

Chase: What about you?

Willow: I love my life. I have no regrets, but…

Chase: But what? Come on, Willow. You can tell me anything.

Willow: I have to go to class. And you can do more PT work, okay? [ Sighs ]

Nina: I’m sorry, Mike, I just — I can’t.

Sonny: No, Nina. Nina, I shouldn’t have kissed you. I… I know. We have a responsibility to Phyllis. She’s counting on us. And — you know what I mean.

Nina: Yeah, I know. I know. Thank you for understanding. You really found yourself here. Your true self, haven’t you?

Sonny: You almost sound surprised.

Nina: No, I’m not surprised. I’m just so grateful that I get to share this time with you for however long as I can.

Sonny: I’m not going anywhere.

Michael: I thought we were talking about your future marriage, not my past one.

Carly: Hey, you’re the one that compared the two. I think it’s kind and generous that you invited Chase to stay at the Quartermaines’ while he gets his life back together. But with Willow and Wiley so close, Michael?

Michael: Yeah, we’re making it work.

Carly: You sure? At what cost?

[ Cellphone rings ]

Michael: Willow?

Willow: Michael, I need to see you. But not at the house. Someplace private.

Michael: Well, I’m at my mom’s right now. You can come here.

Willow: I’m on my way.

[ Door opens, closes ]

Josslyn: So, I take it that you’re in town for Spencer’s party. How long are you visiting?

Esmé: It’s so funny to hear you all refer to him as “Spencer.” I mean, no one at school calls him that.

Cameron: And no one in Port Charles calls him “Spence.”

Josslyn: Right, no, especially the people who have known him his entire life.

Esmé: Cool. And that would include you?

Josslyn: Yeah, it sure would.

Esmé: He’s told me so much about you all. I look forward to getting to know you in person.

Josslyn: Mm.

Trina: So you never said how long you’d be visiting.

Esmé: That depends on Spence. Hey, you. Come join us. We’re just getting acquainted.

Valentin: How about we agree that Anna Devane is off-limits?

Martin: Why, Valentin Cassadine, how positively Neanderthal. Why don’t you just mark your territory?

Valentin: I’m just saying, the woman is very complicated.

Martin: Oh, I enjoy complications.

Valentin: As much as you enjoy my retainer?

Martin: Point taken. Perhaps you’re right. Perhaps what Anna needs is someone as complicated as she is.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Martin: Excuse me. Yeah. Hello. Of course. Yeah, of course. No, I — I’ll meet you downstairs immediately.

Anna: Is everything alright?

Martin: Lord, I hope so. Um… to be continued. Or perhaps not.

Anna: What just happened?

Valentin: I don’t know, but it doesn’t look good.

Brook Lynn: Thanks, Yuri! [ Exhales deeply ] Sorry, Chase. I didn’t mean to —

Carly:  Michael, I want you to know that you can tell me anything. I won’t judge you.

Michael:  I know that. There’s nothing to tell. Really.

Carly:  Okay, whatever you say.

Michael:  And look, just so you know, I’m not suggesting that our situations are the same, and I’m not gonna lie and say that I’m happy with where things are right now with Willow. I’m just saying that you and Jason might find that your marriage of convenience might bring you closer to a — a real happy ending. That’s all.

Sonny: Listen, I should probably go.

Nina:  Mm-hmm.

Sonny: Well, I mean, Phyllis, you know, I promised her that I’d come by her house.

Nina:  Oh, yeah. You should go. I’m just gonna stay here and look for more souvenirs, but you tell Phyllis that I will drop everything if she needs me, okay?

Sonny: I’m sure she already knows that, but I’ll remind her. And don’t forget, you know, grief can be very tricky.

[ Both chuckle ]

Nina:  [ Laughs ]

[ Knock on door ]

Nina:  Oh, sorry, we’re closed.

[ Knocking continues ]

Nina:  Don’t you see the sign on the door?! Sorry, we are closed.

Valentin: You and Martin seemed to be getting along like a house on fire.

Anna: Well, he’s certainly a very southern gentleman. Very different to what I’m used to.

Valentin: Well, so are grits and ham, but I don’t believe you’ve given up on the finer things in life, have you, darling?

Laura: Should we go to work?

Kevin:  You go. I’ll clean this up.

[ Both laugh ]

[ Knock on door ]

Kevin:  You got that?

Laura: Yeah.

Martin: Sister, I fear we are in trouble.

Trina: I need to get going to the gallery. Ava’s in no shape to handle things today, not after her stalker torched her car.

Esmé: As an art fan, I look forward to meeting your boss.

Trina: Mm.

Josslyn: Trina, are you okay?

Trina: Why wouldn’t I be?

Josslyn: Um, maybe because Spencer never told us that he had a girlfriend.

Trina: Why does that matter?

Josslyn: Are you kidding? Spencer has been acting all kinds of interested in you, turning on the charm, and you went out of your way to be there for him last night. He should have been honest.

Trina: He’s just a guy. And it’s not like I’m his girlfriend. I need to get going. Ava’s counting on me.

Cameron: Well, it’s not like we already didn’t know that Spencer’s a jerk.

Josslyn: Yeah, well, a jerk who could be in way over his head.

Cameron: do you mean?

Josslyn: I mean, who mentions a kidney transplant five seconds after meeting me?

Cameron: Yeah, Esmé’s a little… extra.

Josslyn: Well, I guess that’s what “Spence” deserves.

Spence: I thought you were spending the day sightseeing.

Esmé: I came in here for directions and ran into your friends. I want to get to know the people who are important to you.

Willow: [ Breathing shakily ]

Michael: What’s going on? What happened?

Willow: I can’t do this anymore.

Chase: Austin, it’s me. I found proof that Edward wanted to add your father to the will. Call me back.

Brook Lynn: Well. It’s nice to see you back on your feet. Now, why don’t you tell me what’s really going on?

how’s josslyn? Nikolas cassadine is a self-absorbed jerk. There’s no question about that. Fortunately, everything at wyndemere was a false alarm. Josslyn’s fine. I’m glad I went, but I’m sorry I missed the meeting. So did you guys come to a conclusion? It’s a good thing you did miss it. It gave me a chance to see exactly where we stand with the five families. Okay, where is that? We’re in trouble. The first time I saw you, I knew you were someone special.

[ Chuckles ] Oh, please. The first time you saw me, I was running into the savoy covered in fake blood. Exactly — I saw you drenched in blood and I thought, “wow, that is someone who I have to get to know better.” Well, how’s that going for you? What I know, I like… and I’d like to know more. I’ve missed that. Amy: So, I’m having this long, involved conversation with pirate, and I’m doing his voice.

[ Light laughter ] You’re talking to your dog? Deanna: She talks for her dog. Oh. Please tell me no one can hear you. Amy: I left the door-cam app open, and the delivery guy heard every word. So, I open the door, and, of course, pirate is standing right next to me. And the guy acts all disappointed and says, “isn’t he a little small to be a pirate? I was expecting a german shepherd.”

[ Laughter ] The families think that we’re isolated and that we’re vulnerable. Are we? We’re definitely isolated. But we’re nowhere near as vulnerable as they want to believe, and we can use that. How? Well, we let them think they’re winning, that we’ll do anything to avoid conflict because we’re not strong enough to keep what’s ours. How do we convince them?

[ Sighs ] We get married. As soon as we can schedule it.

Psst! Psst! All good okay, I understand getting married because of mob politics. That’s why I married sonny the first time. Right, so you couldn’t testify against him. That’s why I married him the fourth time. Although, sonny was lying. He was just trying to stop me from marrying jax. But that’s not the point. Okay, so, what — what’s the point? The point is, I thought we were getting married to show the families that we’re a united front, that they can’t divide and conquer us. And now you’re telling me we’re doing it to make them think that we’re weak?

[ Sighs ] We’re doing it to comply with their ultimatum. Which is? Which is to marry you… …or eliminate you. They ordered you to kill me? I would never let that happen. Why name your dog “pirate”? Amy: He has a dark patch of fur over one eye. Also, it sounds dark and romantic and adventurous, even though he mostly resembles a dust mop.

[ Laughter ] Well, this is definitely the party table.

[ Laughs ] Dr. Westbourne. We’re all off the clock, so “britt’s” fine. Since when? Bobbie. It’s great to have you back on staff. It’s still “nurse spencer.” Right. Well [Sighs] It’s good to see you all letting off some steam.

[ Chuckles ] Relaxation after a hard day at gh is chief of staff approved. We know. Chief terry is the one who suggested this outing. Co-chief terry. You know, it’s really nice having someone in a position of authority treat the staff like people and not flunkies. No one could ever mistake you for a flunky, nurse baldwin. Everything about you screams… competent. I think the word you’re looking for is “gifted.” Well , getting the competentand the gifted together was definitely a great idea. Thanks. I felt we could all use some time where we didn’t have to think about work. I hear you. I have definitely had a day myself.

[ Clears throat ] Epiphany, I haven’t had an opportunity to welcome you back. Was it hard to leave a sandy beach to return to gh?

[ Laughs ] Not as hard as being demoted from head nurse. But I guess you know a little something about how that feels now. Indeed I do. Well, you all enjoy your evening. Amy: What was that? Epiphany: The nerve. Portia, I’m so sorry I snapped at you. I know you’re trying to help. Ava, listen to me. You have nothing to apologize for. You had your car set on fire by some psychopath who planted kiki’s badge there. On top of everything else that you’ve been going through, frankly, I-I think it’s a miracle that you are handling things as well as you are.

[ Sighs ] Which is not at all. I disagree.

[ Knock on door ] Come in. Hi, dr. Collins. Hi — hi, kevin. Ava, I’m glad you’re still here. You okay? Well, my car was set on fire. Yeah, nikolas told me. I spoke to the firemen, and they’re certain that it was done on purpose. Luckily, the car was the only casualty — that and my nerves, of course. What about you and laura? Tell me that you got to wyndemere before nikolas did anything stupid. I am a cassadine, mother. I can’t change that. I’m not talking about your dna. I’m talking about the kind of man you’re becoming. You know, when I think back to the man who raised spencer — my god, you never left his bedside when he was so horribly burned in that fire. That’s the nikolas that I know. That’s — that’s still me. And I want to believe that — I really, really do, but… I’m losing faith in you.

[ Sighs ] I’ve seen little glimmers of that man, but it seems to me every time you take one step forward into the light, you take two giant steps backwards into darkness. I like you, too.

[ Laughs ] Are you sure? Anyway, you’re not as bad as I thought at first… victor. Oh, come on. I have done my penance for that. Walking around with “kick me” in sunscreen on my back.

[ Laughs ] Shouldn’t you rejoin your family? Your grandmother looked really worried about you. Not just yet. Can’t we just stay out here? In a perfect world, we could stay out here all night, but… oh, no, no, no, no, no. No “buts.” Come on, take it back. But I’m not offering you advice, okay? Okay, even if it comes out sounding like that.

[ Sighs ] There was a time where I wasn’t really getting along with my mom and I didn’t want to talk to her. But a friend told me I should at least hear her out. I thought that was ava. Ava said something similar, but my friend said it first. Your friend sounds like a real punk.

[ Chuckles ] Whatever. Well, I’m not here to tell you what to do. I’m not sure many people can. No, nobody tells spencer cassadine what to do. Except his grandmother?

[ Chuckles ] Except his grandmother.

[ Laughs ] Well, I just want you to know… that you’re not alone, and I’m here if you need me. Actually, I was starting to think that… if you go with me, I might actually be able to face my father. Esme: Not so fast. Just where do you think you’re going without me?

It’s that bad, huh? Like I said, why don’t we just focus on you? Ava, you’ve been under severe and persistent stress. And you are managing to bear up under that stress very well. But it’s taking a toll. I’m just — it’s so confusing, you know? For a while, the threat, it — it seemed to have passed. But now… and it isn’t just the car, kevin. They also left this. What kind of monster taunts someone with the memory of their murdered daughter? Oh, my god, your face. So, I guess you two know each other. You might say that. So, spence, who’s your friend? Esme, I’d like — I’d like to introduce you to trina robinson. Trina, meet esme prince. The girlfriend. I’m sure he’s told you all about me. Laura: Ever since you got back to port charles, I’ve been trying to guide you down a better path.

[ Sighs ] But you’re not listening to me. I am. You didn’t listen to me when I told you not to get involved with cyrus renault. I returned his mother. You traded her for what you wanted. Alexis’ safety. My point is, you were willing to use a fragile old woman to your advantage. Because she was better off as carly and jason’s hostage? She was safe there. She was happy. Ah, that’s one hell of a rationalization. What? From a man who pretended to stab his own child — and who apparently doesn’t see anything wrong with it. The fact that you are willing to plot against your own son for any reason makes me think I should stop trying to save you. It’s already too late.

[ Indistinct conversations ] After that warm welcome, I figured you could use another. Oh, a pity shot?

[ Scoffs ] By the way, thanks for having my back back there. What was i supposed to say? What can I get you? Uh, let’s do six german chocolate cake shots for the table, and we’ll have two of what she was having. Uh, anything that I drink goes on my tab. Anything you say.

[ Laughter ] I wonder what terry and britt are talking about. Oh, that would be none of our business, amy. Oh. I respectfully disagree. I mean, terry and britt are co-chiefs. How they handle each other directly affects our — our work environment. Thank you. Look, I will treat dr. Westbourne respectfully when we’re in the hospital. And when we’re not at the hospital? Oh, I won’t be pulling any punches.

[ Laughter ] That’s what I want to hear. Okay, but has anyone told you that while you were gone, cyrus renault tried to have britt killed? And jason morgan saved her life. And in the process, got shot himself, and britt saved his life. Well, I heard something about that, but I figured that, you know, britt’s role had been greatly exaggerated. Well, not according to my daughter. Carly confirmed britt did save jason’s life. Mm, maybe people can change. I gotta say, seeing you like this is really taking the fun out of watching you suffer. Sorry to disappoint. Actually, you should be proud of yourself. You went up to a table full of people you’ve alienated and tried to connect with them. That was a good thing. If you saw me making an effort, why didn’t you invite me to join you? They would have accepted it coming from you. The gh staff is clearly team terry. Because it wasn’t my invitation to extend. You and i are a team now, but I can’t make people like you.

[ Sighs ] Since we found out he was communicating with people outside prison… …I don’t know. But ever since he was diagnosed as a locked-in… then I would say no. No way. But I have to admit that there are similarities between ryan’s mo and what’s happening to you. Well, one thing I do know is that whoever is stalking me, it cannot — it cannot be spencer. That’s another thing this stalker’s good at — turning your lives upside down, making you doubt each other. Please, kevin. Please tell me that whatever nikolas did tonight, he hasn’t ruined his relationship with his son. Trina: Well, your boyfriend spence wasn’t kidding when he said tonight would be full of some big surprises. Nice to meet you, esme. And, no, he has not mentioned you. Well, actually, I’m more surprised than anything, but now that I’ve had a minute to get used to the idea, I’m happy for them.

[ Laughs ] I’m still stuck on “surprised.” I’ve known these two for years, and there was never the slightest indication that they were anything but friends. Yeah, well, you were never involved with jason.

[ Both chuckle ] Guys, jason and i are ancient history. I mean, yes, we have jake together, and we’re just friends. I’m just making an observation. By all means, observe away. Epiphany: Mm-hmm. Carly will always come first in jason’s life. She wouldn’t have it any other way. And honestly, jason wouldn’t either. But it used to make me so frustrated. I’d want him to just stand up to her and — and let her figure out her own disastrous life and stay out of his. Sorry, bobbie. Oh, don’t apologize. There have been so many times in carly’s life when it has been a disaster — by her own making. But, well, whenever she would turn to jason for help, he was there to give it to her. And, in all fairness, she did the same for him. Yeah, that’s true. I mean, carly and i have never been friends, but I’m the first to admit she has always been loyal to jason. Your stint as solo chief of staff wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Far from it. And I’m supposed to apologize for keeping my eye on the bottom line? That’s the job. This isn’t about numbers. You know that. This is about how you deal with people — especially bobbie spencer. I had nothing to do with her or monica getting fired. That was all cyrus. Oh, and taking epiphany off the floor and cutting elizabeth’s hours to almost nothing. Was that cyrus, too? He ordered me to. And when he was gone… did you make it right? You would think so many people who were chummy with sonny corinthos would understand what it’s like to do things you don’t want to do under duress. It’s no secret you don’t get along with epiphany or elizabeth — or pretty much anyone, for that matter. Don’t be disappointed when you dig up what you planted. Fine. I’m awful. And things need to change. But how am I supposed to change things when everyone’s against me? Epiphany looked right through me. Because you went out of your way to humiliate, belittle, and demote her — and several people she cares about — on your first day. Okay. [ Scoffs ] So, this cold-shoulder business, it’s all on me. Yes, it is. Right. So, I guess getting invited to the cool kids’ table is impossible. Nothing’s impossible. But if you want their respect, you’re gonna have to earn it. I can see that you’ve changed, but that doesn’t mean the situation has. You burned some pretty big bridges. It’s gonna take time to rebuild them.

[ Indistinct conversations ] Surprise! I don’t want you to be afraid, okay?

[ Laughs ] The five families are never gonna touch you. But you have a right to know what was said. Which was what, exactly? Their position is, unless or until we get married, you’re a civilian who could flip and give evidence to the feds. I would never do that. I know. I know. It was just an excuse. They made the demand to see how I would react. And you told them what they wanted to hear. I told them that we would get married as soon as we can arrange it. And this just proves that any negotiations — honest negotiations — are a waste of time. The families are not interested in cooperating.

[ Sighs ] They believe sonny’s territory is wide open, and you’re the key, which you are. But threatening you… …is the worst mistake they ever made. And they’re gonna pay.

I mean, we don’t even have towait till the wedding. I can move now. I could probably get to vincent novak tonight, and it would be a relief to get rid of that guy, anyway. But waiting is the smart move. Moving quickly, there’s — there’s always a risk. So yeah. We should set the date, send out the invitations, and give them time to set whatever they’re planning in motion. Okay, well, you know how this works. You’ve obviously thought a lot about it, so we’re gonna do what you said. We’re gonna — we’re gonna set the date, and we’re gonna make them think that they’re winning. [ Sighs ] Um… I’m really sorry for how I treated you. It was self-serving and callous and… and dishonest, conniving, nasty, and low-down. Wow. Don’t hold back.

[ Laughs ] Oh, trust, there’s plenty more where that came from. I was gonna tell my friends all about you. When? Tonight. What stopped you? You know, I definitely sensed some tension. What happened? It’d take too long to get into. What about you? When’d you get here? What have you been up to? Tailing the demon bride. Oh, you were following ava. I got curious about the wicked stepmother, so I went to check her out at her gallery. I wasn’t there long before ava rushed off, frantic, so I followed her from the gallery to the hospital. When I got there, I overheard your father telling ava that he was faking a trip to dubai so he could trick you. And you didn’t think to call or text or give me any kind of heads-up? Almost. But then I overheard ava asking your grandmother to head over to wyndemere, and that’s when I got my beautiful, brilliant brainwave. What brainwave? To set ava’s car on fire. You what?!

[ Sighs ] Nikolas and spencer will need some time to heal from this.

[ Door opens ] Ava? Oh, my gosh. Hey, hi. I was so worried. Aww. Are you okay? Yeah, I’m okay — really. I’m just a little shaken up, that’s all. “Shaken up”? Your car was burned. Mm-hmm. Well, I wasn’t in it at the time, right? So I guess it was just meant to scare me. Scare you?

[ Scoffs ] That is so messed up. I know. I totally agree. So, I heard that there was some drama at wyndemere.

[ Laughs ] Well, nothing exploded. Mr. Cassadine came to spencer’s party determined to teach spencer a lesson but ended up taking things way too far. I don’t know if spencer is ever gonna be able to forgive his father. Like, for the time being? No, like ever. What the hell did nikolas do? I’m sorry, ava. The police officer really needs to take your statement now. Oh. Yeah. Sure, okay. Well, thanks for checking on me — both of you. Please don’t give up on me. Please give me a reason not to. Look, I realize I’ve made terrible choices, but I want to do better. I want to do better by you, by ava, by spencer, by everyone. And I think it’s lovely that you want to do better by me, and I’m sure ava feels the same way, but we’re adults. Spencer is still a kid. He’s not even 20 yet. And you have broken his heart time and again. You literally attacked him. How — how do you make that better? What steps are you willing to take?

[ Sighs ] ‘Cause I’m afraid you’re way past the point where your promises have any meaning. One more terrible choice and you could lose everything — and everyone who’s close to you. I thought you had plans tonight, sweetie. I did. I heard about ava, and I just wanted to check on her. Oh, well, fortunately, she’s gonna be just fine. So, where were you? I was at a party at wyndemere. Wait, you were there? I heard ava ask dr. Collins if he got there “in time.” What in the world happened tonight at wyndemere?

And since I’m still in the throes of my own heartbreak, I wouldn’t wish that upon anyone. Well, since we are sharing… [ Laughs ] Is that what we’re doing? Because if it is, I don’t like it. Look. I may never convince you. But I am not the person I was. At least, I’m trying not to be. You know, when I — when I was in cabo, I heard that you tried to take down renault and that you risked your life for jason morgan, who I consider to be a friend. [ Laughs ]

[ Scoffs ] Something had to happen to ava while you weren’t around to prove that you weren’t involved, even though we both know you’re up to your eyeballs in it. I appreciate that you are trying to cover for me. But torching the woman’s car? I mean, this has gone way too far. Are you sure? Your father pretended he was dead for three years, and then he chose that awful woman over you. Don’t you want ava to pay? Mom, it was so awful. Spencer was so hurt. Well, I think the word you’re looking for is “traumatized.” Poor spencer.

[ Stammers, sighs ] He must have felt so betrayed. Not that I haven’t disappointed my own child. What? Mom, no, no. Just no. What happened between you and curtis, “a,” is none of my business, and “b,” is nothing compared to pretend-stabbing your kid. I don’t even know if there’s a word for that. Yeah, there is a word for it. It’s “assault.” Grabbing someone, hitting them with a blunt object. If anyone says it’s a crime what nikolas cassadine did to his son, they actually mean that literally. Yeah, well, as a parent, you’re doing light years better than he is. Thank you. I appreciate that. Any time. Finish your statement? Yeah. For all the good it did. It just doesn’t make any sense to me. The threats, the stalking. It all stopped when nikolas and i filed for divorce. Why would this person start up again? They’re getting everything they want! Something about all of this feels off. But if we can figure out what that is, it might lead us to whoever’s doing this. You know, nikolas came to visit me at the gallery. Could you have been seen? Yeah, I mean, if I’m under constant surveillance. Which would then mean that I’m not safe anywhere. I’m not safe at my place of business, not where I sleep, not — obviously not in my car, which I don’t even have anymore. And god, kevin, where am I supposed to go? Is there any place left where this psychopath can’t get to me? You’re right. If I’m gonna redeem myself, make amends, I need to start with spencer. Oh, nikolas — I know you said that I should — I should let him come to me, but I need to find my son. Here I am. Ava: Whoever is doing this, they have proven time and time again that they can get to me, that they can get to avery, no matter how many bodyguards, no matter how advanced the security system. I know it seems that way. “Seems that way”? The authorities can protect you, ava. No, no, no. I cannot trust in that. I can’t rely on the authorities. I can’t believe it’s come to this, but I cannot risk avery’s safety. I have to get the hell out of port charles, but I have to do it alone. I’m not expecting hearts and flowers or anything like that — I’m not. I just, um — I mean… [ Sighs ] People are really wishing us well — josslyn, my mom, your mom. Well, your mom’s wishing you well. She just tolerates me. But all these people we love, I mean, they think they’re coming to a joyous celebration. And really, it’s just a show for the five families. Okay, our — our wedding is not just a show. You just saidthat, uh, we — yeah, I said the five families have to be dealt with, yes. But it’s still gonna be us up there getting married. I’m actually really nervous about that. I mean, not about the wedding, really. More about after the ceremony, you know? And what’s it gonna be like when we’re married? I mean, when I married sonny the last time you were gone — but before that, all the way back to my first marriage to aj — I mean, I always knew I had you as my best friend and that you’d always be there for me. I mean, if something went wrong and the marriage ended, you would be there, and you were. And now, this time, the marriage is to you. And, w– you’re — you’re my safety net, and I’m marrying my safety net, and I’m really kind of freaking out here. I’m still gonna be your safety net. And I’m counting on you to be mine.

[ Groans ] In fact, when I tell the boss about your latest attempt, he may finally agree you’re more trouble than you’re worth and let me kill you. So, you’re going to tell your employer how I managed to steal a phone on your watch? He’s gonna fire you and find somebody else to run this hellhole, man. Russ, you gotta look to your future, man. [ Chuckles ] I’m gonna double it. We’re having this conversation right now? The first call I got, I sent it straight to voicemail because I thought it was a telemarketer or something. A little while later, I got another call. That one, I picked up. And when I did, it was a man’s voice on the phone. He called me by my name, and he said that he was drew. He said, “help.” He said that they were coming, and then there was all this commotion and then the line, it just went dead. I had one of dante’s techs run the call, and it came up empty. Wait a minute. Um… so you went to the police? No. No, dante and i happened to be together when I got the call. He thinks it was just a hoax or intended to throw me off of a case. Yeah. That makes sense. Yeah, it would be — I could justify that. I just — I don’t know. Drew’s plane went down over the gulf of aden. There was a thorough search. It turned up nothing. There were no signs of any survivors. I know! But, come on, he was a navy seal. If anyone could survive a plane crash into the ocean, it would be drew. You think dante’s right, don’t you? Um… I think what’s more important is what you think. Do you believe drew is still alive? Jax: Nothing. Well, maybe it’s just out of power. I find phones can become temperamental after a while. Have you updated? No, no, no. This was 98% charged a little bit ago. Believe me, I was hacked. And I’m pretty sure I know who it was. You weren’t kidding about your mood. Sorry. I did try to warn you. I can think of only two things to cause such consternation — a woman or a child. I’m guessing the latter. Is your daughter all right? Well, that is very good, liesl. But, yes, josslyn is fine, for now. Thank you for asking. I just wish that her mother was as concerned as you are for our daughter’s safety. We showed them the creepy writing on the fireplace, and then spencer and trina came in saying spencer had been stabbed. Spencer was stabbed? How badly was he hurt? He wasn’t actually stabbed. Yeah, it was a retractable knife, like a prop in a play. Spencer thought it was ryan chamberlain until nikolas came in and said that he was behind it all. Nikolas stabbed spencer? Mm. He wasn’t actually stabbed, but yes. And my grandmother, she was very upset. Oh, they were headed for a dysfunctional family train wreck. I never thought I’d say these words, but I feel really bad for spencer. What the hell was nikolas thinking? Spencer: You turned against me once again. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. [ Chuckles bitterly ] It’s not the first time that it’s happened. I never should have come back. No, please don’t say that. I never turned against you. You never chose me either. I’m just supposed to live with whatever horrible decisions you make, roll with the punches, and then suck it up in the end. Your neglect was hard enough to deal with. And now you want to dole out the punishment, too? I wanted you to truly understand how damaging your actions had been. But this incident tonight with ava’s car, it proves that you were wrong. And even if you had been right, you took this way too far. You chose to terrorize your own son and — and his friends to teach him a lesson. There’s no excuse. He taught me something, alright. That he will always choose ava over me. No, this wasn’t about choosing ava. Oh, please. You were afraid that I might drive ava away, and you decided to retaliate. No, I never meant — spencer’s not wrong. Your actions are closer to those of a thwarted lover than a concerned father. Was I angry when I thought that you were behind everything? Yeah, I admit it. I was furious. But I was also concerned, and I was disheartened, and that’s why I wanted tonight to end with you seeing the error of your ways so that we could just get it out in the open, and then, hopefully, we could get past it. We could move forward together.

[ Crying ] And you decided to invoke my mother to manipulate me, to tell me to be the man that she would want me to be. I’m sorry. Just because you decided that I’m guilty! I pushed too hard. I was wrong. Please forgive me, son. I love you. Do not call me that. Do not call me that. And don’t claim to love me. Spencer. Laura: Nikolas. You almost had him, you know. Your son was back. He was here at home, but what happened is you — you let your rage blind you. You decided that he was the stalker, that he was the one who took ava from you, and he’s right — you decided to retaliate. I didn’t — you thought your way was the only way! That’s that’s the — the very definition of arrogance. And where has it gotten you? [ Fist slams ] This is progress. I made a phone call. Sam picked up. Of course, sam thinks that I’m dead, but that’s not the first phone call she’s gotten from a dead man.

Despite everything that happened, I don’t think your father hates you. You’re okay with what he did? No, that was seriously messed up, but your father honestly thought you were the stalker, the one who did all those horrible things to him and ava. For a moment, I thought you did, too. [ Cell door opens ]

Or do you really think that sam mccall is gonna come for you? I heard you trying to convince her you were still alive. You better a pray she thinks it was a crank call. If she decides to look for you, she’ll be dead before she leaves the U.S. Okay, let’s not assume anything definite right now. Why don’t we go over this phone call, okay? Why don’t you tell me anything you remember or…

[ Sighs ] …Background noise you might have heard. Okay, okay. The caller said my name a few times. He said his name was drew. The connection was bad. Okay, bad reception. Like maybe a call from overseas. Yes. He asked if I could hear him. Like he knew there might be bad reception. Right. Okay, so, he knew that he was calling with bad reception. He asked if I could hear him. And then there was all this commotion. Well, he asked for help, and then the line went dead. Wait a minute, commotion? Like there was a struggle? Maybe. Okay. Other than the bad reception and the struggle, did you hear anything else in the background? Just static.

[ Sighs ] Okay, so whoever this guy is, he wants you to believe that he’s drew and that he’s on the run from someone or something. You think he could have been running all this time? I don’t know. Why wouldn’t he try and contact me earlier? Well, maybe he’s being held somewhere and this was his one shot to make a call before he was recaptured. Or, at least, that’s what this guy wants you to believe.

[ Sighs ] Do you? Carly, I’m not in the mood right now. Well, too damn bad. I had something really important planned for tonight, and I had to drop everything and race over here because I thought my daughter was in danger, only to show up and find out that you’re playing bogeyman, scaring the hell out of your son and his friends? I’m sorry for the inconvenience, but I-I’m not taking parenting lessons from you, of all people. Or do you want to discuss why josslyn had a bodyguard tonight and every night? Well, thank god she did! You know what? Handle your own family drama and leave us out of it. I have enough on my plate without your asinine decisions making my life more difficult. Kevin, laura, I’m sorry. It’s really okay. It’s been a rough night all around. Well, we’re out of here. Let’s go. Come on. Okay, mom, wait.

[ Door closes ] I can’t leave yet. That sounds like… you just threatened carly. Ms. Wu: This isn’t a club, mr. Morgan. Our alliance is a carefully constructed balance of power, one built on mutually-assured destruction. I know what it is. One of us goes down, we all go down. Yes, and when mrs. Corinthos joined our ranks, she was made privy to information that could compromise every one of us. You can trust her. That hasn’t always been so. There were reports that she threw a valuable shipment of guns into the port charles harbor as a protest against our business. Yeah, it was a different time, different set of circumstances. Yes, I’ve since accepted her word that she’s changed. But here we all are, and she’s nowhere to be found. Oh, perhaps she’s doing something more advantageous to her, like talking to the feds.

[ Scoffs ] That’s ridiculous. Is it? The feds have been circling the corinthos family for a long time. Maybe the good widow decided to cooperate and cut a deal so she could be free of us for good. Buscema: And madam wu could be right. What if your fiancée set you up, too, hoping to bring us all down while she’s in the clear? But I assure you, mr. Morgan, if that’s so, there will be consequences.

Trina: Why are we playing the “what if” game? You didn’t do all those horrible things, so let’s not even go there. I was just wondering, hypothetically, if I had done those things to ava and my father… would you hate me? But you didn’T. Yeah, but what if I had? Would you be able to forgive me? Is this about you and your dad? What? Are you trying to decide if you can forgive him after everything he did tonight? Because that’s not a decision I can make for you. What do you mean? When my dad first deceived me — when he pretended to be dead — I swore I hated him. I never wanted to see him again. Yeah. Been there, done that.

[ Clears throat ] But you got over it, like I did. But it took some time. Yeah, me, too. Years. And now, your dad’s disappointed you again.

[ Scoffs ] This goes so far — so far beyond disappointment. I had to walk away earlier because I actually wanted to punch the guy. I mean, I thought I was gonna die tonight. When this knife came at me, I thought — I thought life was over, done. I mean, what kind of father does that to his son? How am I ever supposed to forgive that? I’m so sorry you’re going through this. That’s it?

[ Chuckles ] That’s all you have to say? Were you expecting something else? You’re not gonna tell me what to do? Ava, I know you’re dealing with a lot right now, but please call me when you have a chance. I need to hear from you.

[ Sighs ] Nikolas: You should have gone with kevin. I already feel terrible. There’s nothing you can say to make me feel worse. I just want you to understand how your thinking led to your actions. I don’t want to lose my son again. Should I go to him? I think you have to give him a little bit of time to cool off. Maybe let him come to you. I might be waiting a long time. Another three years? Maybe forever? Well, what did you think was going to happen when you made the decision to stalk him, to stab him with a fake knife? I mean, how could you possibly think that that’s the right way to deal with your son? I thought he was the stalker, and that angered me, but it also scared me. I-I felt like I had to do something drastic to get through to him. I wanted him to understand on a visceral level, to make him feel the way he made ava feel. So you struck back at him, at your own son, like any good cassadine would. You know, carly and jason’s upcoming marriage has definitely been on my mind. I mean, I just can’t believe that she would associate herself with another mobster now that sonny’s dead. You know, she had a chance to start fresh — to stop putting josslyn and her other kids in danger, yet she chose to double down. Have you tried telling her how you feel? Yeah, I’ve tried talking to her. I went as far as trying to get leverage to force her out of that life. I gather your phone is a casualty of your quest to gain leverage?

[ Chuckles ] Yeah. There is an art to gathering covert evidence, you know. You should have come to a pro for some tips. I’d love to see carly squirm. And jason morgan, even more so. I’m sorry, mom, but we need to talk to spencer. You heard dr. Collins on his way out — spencer ran off somewhere, and trina went with him. He’s probably devastated over what his father did. I’m sure he is, josslyn, but I have to get back to the mainland. Can you please go upstairs and see if trina needs a ride back? What about you? Well, I’m going to stay and talk to my mom. Alone. [ Sighs ] The idea of carly going to the feds is laughable. She’s known everything there is to know for years as sonny’s wife. Sonny’s dead. I’m aware of that. Carly and I will be getting married. “Will be.” But you aren’t now. So carly could be coerced to divulge what she knows about our operations with or without your consent. You just said she already knows everything. You can’t see the risk this poses to all of us? There’s no risk. We’re sitting around speculating about something that’s not going to happen. Blind faith is a bad look for the head of the corinthos organization.

When you are married, mr. Morgan, carly cannot be compelled to testify against her husband. Fiancées don’t share the same legal protection. So you must understand, until you and carly are husband and wife, carly is a liability.

Are you working on any big cases right now, or do you have a — a trial coming up soon? Naomi dreyfus is the biggest thing I’ve got going on right now, and clearing shawn butler’s name, but I-I don’t see how that could be related to drew, though. Yeah. You still haven’t answered my original question. Because I… I didn’t have an answer. Until now. The more I think about it… the way he spoke to me and… his voice, it was just… it sounded real. I think it was drew who was on the phone. Your boss is targeting sam? The boss has a long reach. He plucked you out of the ocean, didn’t he? Because I have to save our daughter from the danger you put her in. My professional opinion deduces that this was a date. Good work, detective. It went down in the gulf of aden. And by the time that search and rescue got to the wreckage, the bodies were long gone. Well, we know peter august caused the crash, right, to keep drew from tying him to shiloh and the original abduction. Do you think it was peter who called me? I don’t — you know, the wsb doesn’t know if peter’s dead or alive. And if he was alive, why — why would he be pretending to be drew? I don’t know. But it just sounded so much like drew’s voice. Okay, well, maybe peter was using voice-altering technology. Why would peter want me to think that drew’s alive? I wasn’t very nice to you when I first met you. I was honestly jealous of your relationship with trina. I was defensive about it. But now… I’m just so happy that she has you in her life. That both of us do. But if not peter, could the call be related to hayden barnes, as a way to distract me from investigating her and have me go off looking for drew? I don’t know. I don’t know that this has anything to do with hayden barnes. But whoever called you, they wanted to distract and upset you. Using the ghost of scout’s father to do it. You think I wanted to take it this far, carly? You don’t think that I went over 100 different scenarios in my head to try to find a way to get you out of sonny’s business and keep our daughter safe? I buried the badge with my daughter because working here meant so much to her. I-it’s a fact. Drew’s body was never recovered. I have to at least consider the possibility that that was his voice on the other end. So you’re considering the unthinkable. Yeah. Maybe drew didn’t die in that plane crash after all.

[ Man breathing heavily ]
