Trina: [ Sighs ] Uh, sorry. Um, I don’t mean to be rude. It’s Spencer. He needs me.

Spencer: Hey.

Alexis: Hey.

Spencer: Thanks for coming.

Alexis: Yeah. You said it was important. What’s up?

Spencer: [ Sighs ] Take your pick. Um, Esme was found, my father has sunk to a new low, and Britt is dead. [ Sniffles ]

Alexis: I’m really sorry about Britt, Spencer.

Spencer: It’s so wrong that she’s gone. And it scares me that there’s someone else out there who may be even more dangerous and unhinged than Esme is.

Jordan: How’d it go?

Dante: Hey, I’m just cueing up the footage now.

Jordan: I understand the position you’re in, but this investigation needs a break. Bennet’s interview with Westbourne was helpful in that we now know The Hook’s wearing a mask, but she’s still on the loose.

Dante: Yeah, I know.

Jordan: If you feel more comfortable, I can take the lead on the questioning.

Dante: No, no, no, no, no, no. It’s all good. It’s all good. We just — we need to get to the bottom of what happened, uh, to Britt Westbourne that night.

Jordan: That we do. And I’m hoping your connection with the witness pays off for all of our sakes.

Drew: And I-I get it. I get it. Nina has made life very difficult for you and Willow.

Michael: Yeah, she’s been hounding us for months. I mean, she took us to court over Wiley, she was claiming that Willow was cheating on me. Nina can’t stay out of our lives, no matter what we do to avoid her.

Josslyn: Something’s come up and I have to go. But I told Michael I’d stay with Willow, and I just feel really bad leaving her.

Sonny: I’ll sit with Willow. You go ahead — go ahead and go. I-I’ll explain it to Michael.

Josslyn: Okay.

Nina: Carly, before you start, if this is about me upsetting Willow again, I did not go over there for that.

Carly: That’s not what this is about. As you know, Willow is sick.

Nina: Yeah. I know that. That’s why Sonny and I were at the chapel. We were praying for Willow.

Carly: Praying is good. But you can do more to save Willow.

Nina: Anything I can do.

Carly: Good. Because you may be the only person on earth who can help.

Portia: Spencer needs you?

Trina: He needs a friend, Mom.

Portia: I didn’t realize you still considered Spencer to be a friend.

Trina: Well, I mean, Esme resurfaced, and Spencer found out that she’s pregnant — by his father — and then he lost Britt, who he was very close to. I mean, it’s — it’s been a lot on him.

Portia: I don’t doubt it. [ Chuckles ] Especially the pregnancy part. I-I’m sure Spencer has a lot to unpack. But what about Josslyn and Cam? Can’t they help him? [ Stammers ]

Curtis: Your mother and I know how amazingly compassionate you are, Trina.

Portia: Of course, we are extremely proud of your instinct to want to help someone that’s in need. But, um… [Sighs] You have a very giving and forgiving heart, and you’re going through a lot right now yourself.

Curtis: Your mother and I want to make sure that you’re supported. There’s just so much to process. Like, how do you feel about Esme being caught?

Trina: Wow, uh, that’s a question. [ Sighs ] And honestly, I’m conflicted. I mean, for months, I wanted Esme to face consequences for filming that video and framing me. She made my life hell.

Portia: Of course. Yes. You would want justice.

Trina: [ Sighs ] Yeah, I-I did, but… …I wanted more than justice. I wanted revenge. And part of me still does.

Alexis: So you’re living here now?

Spencer: I am living here now.

Alexis: Enough about that. I assume you’ve been told that the PCPD is no longer considering Esme as a suspect?

Spencer: Yes, but that doesn’t mean that she’s innocent of anything else. [ Chuckling ] I’ve learned to never underestimate Esme.

Alexis: No. Hard won wisdom.

Spencer: I did speak with her, though.

Alexis: What’d she say? I’m asking as your aunt, not as a — as an editor.

Spencer: That’s cool. Either way, she didn’t know who I was. Either she’s a very convincing fake, or she’s got amnesia.

Alexis: Or maybe it’s possible she committed the crimes and doesn’t remember.

Spencer: [ Scoffs lightly ]

Alexis: I think it’s smart that the PCPD moved on to other suspects.

Spencer: I almost wish that she was guilty just so that I could stop worrying that someone is targeting Trina and our other friends.

Alexis: Britt was incredibly brave.

Spencer: I almost wish that she wasn’t. Yes, she put her life on the line, but if she had just run away like the person who she was protecting, maybe she would have lived to fight another day. I don’t know.

Dante: Joss, hey. Thanks for, uh, coming down here so quickly.

Josslyn: Yeah, well, you said it was important on the phone.

Dante: Yeah, it is. It’s about The Hook Killer.

Josslyn: Did you find her?

Dante: Not yet. But I’m hoping you can help us out with some questions.

Josslyn: Well, I want to do whatever I can to help, but will it take long?

Dante: I don’t know. Why? Do you have someplace to be?

Josslyn: Actually, yes. I was with Willow. What’s this?

Jordan: Come in, Josslyn. Have a seat.

Sonny: You look so fragile.

[ Monitor beeping ]

Sonny: But I know you’re anything but. I’ve seen you take on Shiloh and Nelle to protect… Wiley. Been in a jail cell. [ Whispering ] Hey, you’re a fighter. That’s why I know you’re gonna fight this. You have the best medical care, and Michael’s gonna do everything he can to take care of you.

[ Beeping continues ]

Sonny: I just — I just wish I-I knew how to take care of you both.

Michael: Nina actually came to our house tonight and accused me of jeopardizing Willow’s health. She confused Wiley. She upset Willow. Look, if I have to get a restraining order, I’ll get one. I’ll do everything in my power to keep Nina away from Wiley and Willow.

Drew: Michael, Michael. You do not want to do that, okay? Listen, Carly and I think that Nina could be a bone marrow match for Willow.

Michael: What do you mean? Why? Why? What?

Drew: Well… [ Sighs ] Y-you know how I’ve been searching for Willow’s birth family, right?

Michael: Oh, come on. Don’t tell me that — that Nina’s some distant relative.

Nina: Are you alright? We’re only connected through Wiley, Carly, and that’s only because Nelle was my daughter.

Josslyn: Yes.

Jordan: Dr. Westbourne was nicked trying to defend someone else.

Dante: We’ve been searching for the intended victim — the person that Britt rescued — and we got video footage from security cameras at the docks, and we think we have a lead. You recognize anyone?

Josslyn: Well… it’s grainy.

Dante: Yeah. Uh, look, Joss, that footage was captured on Pier 54 at 11:57 P.M. The night of December 31st, 15 minutes before Britt called the police about the attack on Pier 55.

Josslyn: What’s your question?

Jordan: Josslyn, was it your life that Dr. Britt Westbourne saved the night she died?

Trina: Except… I don’t think I do anymore. A-at least not like I used to. I mean, you should have seen her when she showed up on the deck at The Haunted Star. She looked… pathetic. Soaking wet, shivering, pregnant, and completely vulnerable.

Portia: That night, yeah, maybe. But that doesn’t mean that she’s still not a threat.

Curtis: She drugged Oz Haggerty to the point that he had to be in a medically induced coma. And she’s still a suspect in The Hook killings.

Trina: Look, no doubt that Esme has done some horrible things, but that was the old Esme.

Portia: So — so you believe that Esme doesn’t remember what she’s done?

Trina: I heard that’s what the doctors think. And if they’re right, I mean, is it possible that amnesia changed Esme?

[ Monitor beeping ]

Sonny: My son can’t lose you. For Michael, the sun rises and sets in your eyes.

[ Beeping continues ]

Sonny: You’re the mother of his children. You’re his best friend, his soulmate. And I know you’ve encouraged him to communicate with me, to meet me halfway. You’ve never lost hope. Nina: Well, I had medical attention, Carly. Phyllis was one of my nurses. She took Nelle, they went to Florida, and she gave Nelle to the Bensons.

Carly: Phyllis didn’t know about the second baby. And I’m guessing that was by design, because Madeline wanted to make sure that, if she separated the babies, she could get her hands on your inheritance.

Nina: Okay, I don’t know why you’re doing this, but I-I’ll play along with you. Okay, so if — if Willow was Nelle’s twin, you’re saying that Madeline handed Willow off to — Harmony.

Carly: Your mother gave the baby to Harmony.

Dante: The person in that footage looks a lot like you. And if it is you, Joss, that means you were in the vicinity of the attack and maybe you could help us identify the killer.

Josslyn: Look, I would tell you if I thought it would help.

Robert: There’s no need to be cagey. I mean, you’re in no trouble.

Jordan: We believe you were a victim that night. It’s just curious that you didn’t say anything.

Dante: Joss, we think you were the intended target the night Brando was killed. And if what we suspect is right, then the killer got a second shot at you on New Year’s Eve.

Jordan:  If Britt hadn’t shown up, your family might be planning your funeral.

Robert:  Look, we can’t protect you unless you give us all the information. Talk to us —

[ Police radio chatter in distance ]

Diane: Not one word.

Curtis: Whether or not Esme has amnesia… Trina, you can’t let your guard down. It’s possible that she’s a killer.

Trina: You guys, I hear you. I-I fully believe that Esme’s a psycho. But not a serial killer.

Portia: Look, I-I’m not really clear on the laws dealing with memory loss, but I don’t think it warrants Esme a free pass. She committed crimes. She’s a criminal. She needs to face the consequences of her actions.

Trina: A-and that’s what Spencer said. A-and I don’t disagree. [ Sighs ] Okay. I’m not saying I’ll ever trust Esme again. I’m just not using her as a means for my closure. I am ready to end that chapter of my life and move on.

Portia: And how does letting Spencer back in help you do that?

Alexis: Spencer, you arguably were closest to Esme. She didn’t have any family. True?

Spencer: Um, just adopted siblings. They’re not close. I know that. But in due time, Esme will give birth and contribute directly to her family tree.

Alexis: And ours.

Sonny:  So, here’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to do everything we can to get you well… so you can get back to your kids and my son.

[ Monitor beeping ]

Sonny:  And even if I’m not invited back into the fold, it doesn’t matter. I just want you to be together and happy. [ Whispering ] Open your eyes. Come on. You can do this. Just…

[ Beeping continues ]

Nina: Well, who knows how Harmony got Willow? I mean, that woman was a pathological liar.

Carly: One that tried to kill me and Alexis just to keep this secret safe.

Nina: Well, if she wanted to keep the secret safe, Carly, how did you find out?

Carly: Harmony told me… …the night she died.

Nina: She told you? You suspected that I was Willow’s mother when Harmony died last year?

Carly: And if I would have known that Willow was sick, I would have said something a long time ago.

Nina: Did you tell Willow this?

Carly: No.

Nina: Good! Because, Carly, there is no evidence beyond a troubled woman’s sick confession on her deathbed!

Carly: Nina, no.

Nina: You know what, this is irresponsible of you to just go out and present this as truth! And I can kind of understand it because of what Willow is going through, but I’m going to do you a big favor right now, and I’m going to pretend that this conversation never took place.

Carly: I know for a fact you’re Willow’s biological mother.

Nina: How?

Carly: I have proof.

[ Monitor beeping ]

Michael: [ Sighs ] You know, I could hear your voice in my head… telling me to go after him. [ Breathes deeply ] That life’s too short, and he’s trying. Just please don’t tell me that our life is going to be cut short together. [ Breathes deeply ] I need you. [ Sniffles ] Now, you’re my conscience voice in my head. [ Sniffles ] And I need to hear it. [Sniffles] Out loud… [ Sighs ] …Even if it’s scolding me. [ Sighs ]

Willow: I’ll remind you you said that.

Trina:  Since Rory died, Spencer’s really been there for me.

Portia:  At what cost? I will always be grateful that Spencer did the right thing in the end. But I’ll never forget that he lied and he took Esme’s side.

Trina:  Mom, he was playing her.

Portia:  Not the entire time, he wasn’t. I don’t get it. I don’t get how you can excuse that and let him back in. How is that moving on with your life?

[ Cellphone rings ]

Curtis: [ Scoffs lightly ] I gotta check in on the club.

Portia:  [ Sighs ]

Trina:  Yeah? I understand your concerns, Mom, but my eyes are wide open. I see how Spencer’s matured this last year. Those months in Pentonville, and now losing people he loved… it’s — it’s — it’s changed him, given him purpose. He’s committed to doing better.

Portia:  I am genuinely so sorry for what Spencer is going through. I really am. And the way his father betrayed him, it — it — it — it’s indefensible. I know.

Trina:  Spencer’s crushed. He was really tight with Britt. And his father, the — the only parent he has, keeps letting him down over and over again.

Portia:  And that’s one of the other reasons why I am so uncomfortable with you two reconnecting. The Cassadines are dangerous. Even to themselves. Honey, everyone that gets near them ends up getting burned. Look at me. Everyone gets burned.

Alexis: I take it you’re not that thrilled about having a new sibling?

Spencer: [ Scoffs, sniffles ]

Alexis: Just keep in mind, it’s not the baby’s fault. The baby is innocent.

Spencer: I’m not going to hold a grudge against the baby.

Alexis: I know. I know. You’re a good one. You’re filled with forgiveness and empathy.

Spencer: Thank you. Here’s the issue — is that if Esme finds a way out of this, she’s going to take that baby as far away from Port Charles as she possibly can.

Alexis: Yeah, good luck with that. Esme’s got some real serious legal trouble pending. And even if she finds some way to get over that, your father is resolved.

Spencer: Resolved to what?

Alexis: Oh, he wants full custody of that child.

Dante: Well, I should have known Josslyn was going to call Diane. She’s Carly’s daughter. She taught her probably to never talk to the police without a lawyer present.

Robert: Diane looks to be in fighting form.

Dante: Mm.

Robert: Killer Miller.

Diane: Did I hear my name? My client is ready to make a statement.

Dante: We wanted to keep this informal.

Diane: Did you? So you have her stepbrother call her down here and then ambush her with the District Attorney and The Commissioner? You know the rules. You cannot compel a perceived or potential witness to say anything.

Robert: [ Chuckles ] There’s no need to pull out the heavy artillery. We’re just talking.

Diane: [ Clears throat ] My client is ready to make a statement. The moment this turns into an interrogation, I’m pulling the plug. Josslyn.

Josslyn: [ Sighs ] I was on Pier 55 at midnight on New Year’s. Someone did come at me with a hook. I do not know who it was. She was wearing a mask. I tried to get away, but I was in heels. I fell down, and she was basically on top of me. She was going to stab me, and then Britt came out of nowhere swinging her bag. And she told me to run, and I did.

Jordan: Why didn’t you come forward the moment you heard she had died?

Josslyn: I only found out about Britt a couple of hours ago, and we had a family emergency.

Robert: Well, if what you’re saying is truthful, why did you feel the need to engage counsel?

Diane: Well, first of all, it’s her constitutional right.

Robert: If she was arrested, which she wasn’t.

Diane: It is always a sensible idea to retain counsel. She’s only following her mother’s example, and the example of her Uncle Jason, who, if you will recall, never, ever sat down to a police interview without benefit of counsel. And think about how many “misunderstandings” we avoided over the years. And here we are again — avoiding another one.

Robert: Well, there’s really no comparison. Unless, of course, you’re accusing my office of persecuting victims of crime?

Diane: Not at all, District Attorney. I trust you to act in good faith, just as Josslyn trusts me to ensure that you do. Anything to add?

Josslyn: I did not see anything that night that could help you. I wish that I had.

Dante: Do you by any chance remember if your attacker was pregnant?

Josslyn: Um… I mean, I don’t — I don’t really know. I wasn’t paying much attention. I was kind of focused on the hook and trying to get away.

Diane: I know exactly how you feel. Alright, are we done? Yep?

Jordan: Only if Josslyn has nothing more to add.

Josslyn: No.

Diane: Okay.

Robert: I’ll walk you out.

Diane: Alright.

Dante: Hey, Joss, could I have a minute with you?

Diane: Um, only if this is a family matter and not police business.

Dante: It is a family matter.

Diane: Josslyn?

Josslyn: It’s fine.

Dante: I know. [ Breathes deeply ] Looks like you, uh, outmaneuvered us anyway by calling Diane.

Josslyn: Well, like she said, I learned from the best.

Dante: Oh, yeah, you did. Hey, so, what was the, uh, the family emergency?

Nina: What proof do you have that Willow’s my daughter?

Carly: I ran a DNA test on the two of you.

Nina: You did what?

Carly: After Harmony told me that you were Willow’s mother, I was skeptical, so I took a few strands of hair from Willow’s hairbrush and a glass that you had used at Charlie’s pub.

Nina: You stole my DNA, and then you conducted an illegal DNA test without my knowledge or consent?

Carly: The results were conclusive. With a probability of 99.9%… you and Willow are biologically mother and daughter.

Sonny: Carly’s in the chapel right now with Nina instead of Michael and Willow. Do you know anything about that?

Spencer: My father wants the baby?

Alexis: He plans to sue for custody on the grounds that she’s unfit.

Spencer: Pot, meet kettle.

Alexis: I know. I know. I-I-I don’t know the details. I don’t want to know the details. I just know that he’s serious.

Spencer: And with his considerable resources and no one to vouch for Esme…

Alexis: He stands a good chance.

Spencer: Uh-huh. [ Sniffles ]

Alexis: Okay, so if Esme is not the killer, who is?

Spencer: I wish I could tell you. I really thought it was her.

Alexis: Does Trina have any enemies?

Spencer: No, everyone loves Trina.

Alexis: What about Portia? What about Taggert or Curtis?

Spencer: Her mom? I don’t think so. Her dad and Curtis, they were both in law enforcement, so maybe, but why would they go after Trina instead of going after them directly? Are you looking for a scoop?

Alexis: I’m looking for the truth. I would like the killer caught. I have to go to work. I have a conference call. Please don’t tell your father that I told you about his plans.

Spencer: I won’t. It’s good to see you.

Alexis: And as far as vouching for Esme… is there anyone important to her aside from the sociopath Chamberlain?

Spencer: Um. Yes. There’s a, um — yes. And she’s very devoted to Esme. Maybe even enough to kill for her.

Portia: I’ve tried, Trina. I really tried to be open-minded… about your connection with Spencer. But his father lost me when Nikolas terrorized you kids at Wyndemere because he was trying to teach Spencer a lesson. And now that same man cheated on his wife with Spencer’s girlfriend and got her pregnant. The very same girl that terrorized Ava. And please don’t get me started on Victor Cassadine, because I can’t —

Trina: I know, Mom. I know Spencer’s family is really messed up.

Portia: “Amoral” — I think that’s a better word for it. I don’t want you anywhere near those people, Trina. I don’t.

Trina: Spencer is not his family. He’s his own man.

Portia: He’s a two-time convicted felon, is what he is.

Trina: Growing up, you taught me never to judge people by their worst mistakes. That’s what I’m doing.

Portia: I know. But you also have to look at the patterns that people do, honey.

Trina: Okay. [ Breathes deeply ] I get that you’re looking out for me, Mom. But please, trust my judgment.

Trina: No, but I hope one day you’ll see Spencer the way I do. But ultimately, you don’t have to… because he’s not your friend, Mom. He’s mine.

Willow: You have the strangest expression on your face. What aren’t you telling me?

Michael: Um… look, it’s about — it’s about Nina.

Willow: I never want to hear that woman’s name again.

Carly: Willow is dying! She has stage IV leukemia! She needs healthy blood-forming cells from a relative, and she has one, Nina — she has you!

Spencer: Last Esme mentioned, Maggie is living in London, but, um, Sam could tell you more.

Alexis: My Sam?

Spencer: Yeah. I asked Sam to find Maggie Fitzgerald when I thought that she could be the key to getting Esme to confess that she framed Trina, but then Trina was exonerated, and then I never followed up. Oh, um, in a letter, Maggie had warned Esme against having any contact with her birth father.

Alexis: You said that she didn’t have any family.

Spencer: Not that she knew of. But Esme claims that Maggie knew who her biological parents were, but she never told her.

You’re a naturalat this — this type of work. I hope so. I taught it long enough. Nice to know I can actually put some of the skills I teach into practice. Why have you always taught journalism and not gone out into the field? I mean, your wife was a journalist.

[ Sighs ] It’s just the path I took. I felt the adrenaline rush a couple times helping jackie with her stories, but we were raising chase, and one of us had to have a more grounded job. Right, but that was the past. You’re certainly not raising chase now. Have you thought about giving up the lecture hall and then becoming a reporter? Does it sound exciting? Of course. But I think boots-to-the-ground reporting is more a young person’s job. These days, I’m better suited to watching from the sidelines. I think that’s bull. I do. I-I think you’re being self-deprecating, and I’m not sure you really believe that. And you’re talking to someone who found a second act. I mean, didn’t have any choice. [ Cellphone beeping ] Excuse me. I know that you’re only focused on willow right now, but I’m — I’m here if you need anything or if she needs anything, okay? Willow and the baby are gonna be alright. We have to believe that. Why is terry looking into clinical trials? I thought willow already had a match for a bone-marrow donor. She, uh… she did. We found out at her last appointment that the donor is not healthy enough to go through with the transplant.

i had some problems. Sorry. That — that — was that insensitive? Pretty much. But also weirdly refreshing. I’ve gotten so used to people treating me with kid gloves. It’s kind of nice to know that I won’t fall apart if someone says something off. I don’t know. You look pretty tough to me. I’m guessing you don’t watch the home & heart shopping network. I have never heard of it. I went on it to plug products for deception, but they spontaneously tried to add me to the next segment about a papoose-style baby carrier, and I wound up having a nervous breakdown on live television. I’m guessing that’s where the guardianship came in. Yeah. Originally, it was brando. But when he died, his mother, gladys, took over. Wait, your — your mother-in-law’s name is gladys? Why? Well, it’s just, I-I know a woman named gladys, but she’s — she’s probably not your mother-in-law, though. You would know if you met her. She’s pretty memorable. Your mommy’s gonna love this picture. Why would someone put themselves on a bone-marrow transplant list if you can’t go through with it? They must’ve had a condition they weren’t aware of when they signed up. What does this mean for willow and the baby? Willow needs a bone-marrow transplant, period. All the doctors can do right now is just buy her enough time until — until we can find another match. I got to take a walk. I think I’m gonna go to the chapel, say a prayer for willow. Let’s go. I’ll go with you. We need to put an end to this madness now. I know what I have to do.

[ Sighs ] We got to just concentrate on — on willow. We care about her so much, right? And they’re good together. I ju– I’m just feeling like I d– I don’t know what to do. And as much as they don’t want it… for michael and willow, too. [ Sighs ] Look, when nina and sonny told us the news, yes, my initial reaction was to rush over to the hospital. But is that what’s best for michael and willow? No. It’s already got to be really awkward over there because of the way michael feels about sonny. Not to mention how carly and joss feel about sonny and nina. Do they really want willow’s ex-husband in the mix? I don’t think so. Chase, it’s me you’re talking to, okay? I know how much you care about willow, and you, michael, and — and willow, you’re friends-ish again, right? Yeah, something like that. So your mind just must be going crazy with worry. Go be with them. Both of them. Really. I can take care of wiley by myself, and I can cancel tomorrow’s performance. Won’t linc throw a fit? Let me handle linc, okay? You need to do what you need to do. If I go to G.H., I’m only gonna be in the way. If the best way for me to help michael and willow is to help you keep wiley happy, then that’s what I’m gonna do. Maybe it’s just easier to blame the breakup all on esme. I mean, god knows she played a big role, so it must feel like she is responsible for everything. And it’s — it’s easy to look at one catastrophic event and be like, “yeah, that was it.” Trust me, I’ve been there. But you will only drive yourself crazy if you keep asking yourself, “what if this had never happened?” If esme didn’t make the revenge porn, if trina never went to trial, if none of those things ever happened, I am certain that josslyn and I would still be together.

[ Sighs ] But, cameron, if you — you really think about it, there were other issues, too. Like, didn’t you keep spencer’s secret that he was only pretending to believe esme, and you didn’t tell josslyn? Regardless of the reasoning, that hurt the communication between the two of you. Maybe. Still doesn’t make it hurt any less. I know. I know, I know. She was your first girlfriend. She was your first love. It’s gonna hurt. But I also know that, one day, you’ll be able to look back at the time you had with her and instead of feeling all this pain, you’ll feel grateful for what you did have. Michael. [ Sighs ] Why didn’t you tell us? Well, first of all, because willow didn’t tell me. Oh, michael. Chemo is dangerous for a baby in the first trimester, so she decided to wait.

[ Sighs ] And she didn’t want me to worry, so she didn’t tell me. And by the time she told me, she was safe to start chemo, but the leukemia had already advanced. I’m so sorry. I just… it’s willow’s fight. It’s her fight, so she can do this the way that she — she has to, but…

[ Sighs ] I mean, even after she told me, she — she didn’t want anyone else to know. Why? She thought it was the best way to protect wiley. She didn’t want him to be afraid. And, uh, he’s reaching that age now where he’s more perceptive, so she thought that if you or mom or anyone would’ve looked at her with worry that, you know… that wiley would’ve picked up on it and realized that something was wrong. I guess that makes sense. I mean, he’s a smart little boy.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

[ Sighs ] Cameron? No. Uh, no, it’s someone else. Listen, is there anything I can do? I know that that feels like an empty gesture, but, really, I would do anything. Just, uh… just be here with me. It’s done.

[ Monitor beeping ] Hey. How is she? Her vitals are stable, but we’re not sure when she’s going to wake up. She’d appreciate you being here either way.

Josslyn, I didn’t ask you over here to lecture you about your life. You didn’t? Look, I know michael must be going through a hard time right now. I’m sure that you are, too. I just wanted to see if you can make michael understand that, if him and willow need anything, I’m here. I just — I d– I don’t want his pride to stand in the way if he needs help. Help with what? You remember the visitation hearing, the one you forced us to have? Yeah, the court ruled that you have no right to see wiley. Yes. [ Chuckles ] Everything good between you and gladys? Yeah, everything’s great. Why? So, she’s not pushing you to, uh, sell the garage? I mean, yeah,[Laughing] She’s pushing, but that’s just gladys. You know, technically, she does not even need me to agree, since she’s in charge of my finances. But gladys would never do that. I trust her. Cody: You want this? No, thanks. [ Scoffs ] That makes one of us. I’m sorry. No, don’t be, you know? Chase and I might just be singer and manager right now, but I’m — I’m hopeful things will change. So, he’s still willing to work with you. That’s the kind of guy chase is, you know? He honors his commitments, even when he doesn’t want to. Hmm. What’s that like? Beats me.

[ Laughs ] I, uh — chase and blaze, they have this radio performance tomorrow. I may have concocted a plan to get chase over here tonight. So you can remind him how good you guys are together? Something like that. Chase is huge on honesty, though. I-I can’t use lies to get him back. Says who?[ Crunches ] How dare you. I da– I dare because I am wiley’s grandmother and I have to look out for him, his emotional needs, michael. I…

[ Sighs ] I know that willow has stage iv leukemia.

[ Suspenseful music plays ] How the hell do you know that? Because I read a memo that was mixed up in britt’s paperwork. And I am so sorry. What willow is going through, it’s — it’s horrible, but I — I also know that willow’s an adult and she chose to delay her treatment? Was that in the memo, the memo you shouldn’t have even read? It just wound up in my living room, and I admit I read it. So that is how I know that months passed from the time that she got diagnosed to the time where she received her first chemo treatment, months where her leukemia just progressed and her chance of survival got worse —

months when you and willow put the future of your unborn baby before wiley. His needs, his happiness, his security. And now, that little boy may lose the one and only mother that he has ever known. That you allowed him to know, michael! And that’s selfish! Get the hell out of my house. No! First, you have to explain it to me. Willow found out that she had leukemia in her first trimester. Why didn’t she get chemo immediately? That’s none of your business!

Wiley makes it my business! I appreciate your loyalty, but you’re not — you’re not b-betraying michael’s trust by talking to me. I know — I know what’s going on with willow. And it must be — I mean — it must be very difficult for them with the leukemia and then being pregnant. It’s — hold on, hold on. Leukemia? We just had this whole conversation about lying, and — and you made it seem like everything was solid, and yet… you were still holding back. I’m sorry. I didn’t think it mattered. I — you didn’t think it mattered?! You were — how — how is nina being willow’s mother, how does that not matter?! Because I didn’t know willow had cancer! And that’s a secret you kept from me, by the way! That is not the same thing, and you know it. Willow swore me to secrecy. I’m going to ask you a question, and I can’t — I can’t even believe I’m going to say this, but I need you to be honest with me.

[ Voice breaking ] Of course! Were you ever going to tell willow that nina was her mother? No.

[ Breathes deeply ] Or maybe it is. I don’t know. It’s like I — I was braced for the holidays, you know? I-I knew that they would be hard, so I went into them prepared and all my friends and family were on high alert, too. You had a ton of distractions and a lot of people looking out for you. Yeah. You know, the holidays are over, and it’s just me now. No brando, no liam. And, of course, I knew that. But you we ren’t as preparedas you were before christmas.

[ Down-tempo music plays ]

[ Sighs ]

[ Sighs ] You know, it was —

[Sighs] It was nice having a goal, you know? “Just make it through to new year’s day” — I could handle that. But “make it through the rest of your life”?

[ Sighs ] That sounds daunting. It is.

[ Chuckles ] I know I’ll figure it out, but I’m just… feeling a little adrift right now. I get that. And, for what it’s worth, I think you’re coping really well.

[ Chuckles ] The past few months, I’ve definitely felt a lot stronger, more stable. Maybe gladys won’t have to be your guardian much longer. Maybe. [ Chuckles ] Some days, I am so ready to march in and demand that the judge re-evaluate my case. And other days?

[ Sighs ] Nights are hard. After gladys goes to bed, the apartment is just so quiet.

[ Crying ] I’ll find myself listening for brando’s humming while he’s brushing his teeth. Or I’ll go to bed hoping that I’ll dream about him, so I can touch his face again. So that’s not really facing reality.

[ Sighs ] I think that you are doing what every grieving widow would do. You miss your husband, sasha. You imagine him in the room next to you. Who wouldn’t?

[ Breathes deeply ] I’m just afraid that, if I let myself pretend, I’ll get lost in the fantasy. Like I did when I thought I was holding liam.

[ Dreamy music plays ]

[ Laughing ] Oh! I know all parents say this, but she is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. Our child is perfect. Just like her mother. Oh, stop. You can’t fault me for speaking the truth.

[ Chuckles ] We did it. You did it. You beat cancer and protected our child in the process. I love you so much. I love you, too.

[ Laughs ]

[ Laugh echoes ] Josslyn: Willow has cancer? I’m sorry. I-I didn’t — uh — I thought michael and willow would have said something to the family. Michael hasn’t said anything.

[ Breathes sharply ] How do you know this? It doesn’t matter. Does my mom know? I don’t know. I don’t know.

[ Crying ] No. No. If she knew, she would’ve told me. But then again, I thought michael would’ve, too. Oh, my god.

[ Sniffles ] Wiley.

[ Sniffles ] The baby! You know what? -Does this affect the pregnancy? -No. Um — nina did some research, and, apparently, when you’re pregnant, you can still have chemo. It — it doesn’t hurt the baby. This sounds so scary and complicated. Listen, michael and willow, they’re going to get the best treatment possible. You know that, right?

[ Knock on door ] Everything okay?

[ Crying ] Yeah, she’s just heard some bad news. Listen — I have to — I have to go. I’ll see to it she gets home safe. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Thank you.

[ Door closes ] Are you okay?

[ Sobs ] You hate nina. I do. She’s done awful things to you. She has. And then you get handed this perfect opportunity to get back at her. That’s not what this is about. -No? -No, no.

[ Suspenseful music plays ] This was about willow! By the time I had that dna test ran, willow and nina’s relationship was toxic. Willow couldn’t stand nina. She looked me in the face and told me she didn’t want to find out who her birth mother was because she could turn out to be someone like nina. “I’d rather not know,” I believe, were her exact words, so how do I tell her that this woman that she hates, who she doesn’t want anywhere near her son, was her mother? So you lied? I lied! You’re damn right I lied! Because I knew the truthwould hurt willow, and I wanted to spare her that pain! This is what I don’t understand. If you’re so sure that you were in the right — what?! Why’d you lie to me? Why — why — why’d you lie to me about the dna results? Because I didn’twant to put you… why didn’t you bring me in on it?! …In the position! This is what I think! I think you didn’t tell me because you knew I wouldn’t go along with it because you knew… you’re wrong.

[ Breathes deeply ] Does wiley know that willow is sick, that she m-may die? It’s too soon for that. Yeah, because you don’t want to frighten him until it’s absolutely necessary. Of course we don’T. But if willow would have done the responsible thing and gotten chemo during her first trimester, it wouldn’t have been necessary! You know, what — what gives you the right to judge? I understand. If you lost your little baby, it would’ve been devastating, and you and willow would have grieved. But it’s better for both of you to grieve than a 4-year-old boy grieving for his mother the rest of his life!

[ Footsteps approach ] I can’t hear any more of this. Wiley: Grandma! Oh! Wiley! Come here, buddy! Wiley. Hey.

[ Laughs ] Hi.

[ Sniffles ] Well, I’m guessing by the fact that sonny didn’t take my head off that you didn’t tell him about us. No.

[ Sighs ] I would be in serious trouble if sonny thought we were involved. Yeah, well, sonny has bigger things on his mind right now.

[ Sniffles ] Is that the — the bad news sonny was talking about?

[ Crying ] My family’s falling apart, and I don’t know what I’m going to do about it. Keeping the truth about willow and nina to yourself isn’t sparing me the burden of lying to willow. This is about maintaining control. No, no. If you didn’t tell me, then you don’t risk the possibility of me telling willow. It wasn’t like that. Really? It wasn’T. Because, from where I’m standing, if you are the only one that knew, then you are ensuring that this plays out exactly the way that you want it to. How? You’re talking like I’m some puppet master and I just wanted to carry this secret. You did carry it! You carried it for months! I mean, my god, how long did you know?

Harmony was dying, learning that she wasn’t her birth mother and that harmony was actually killing people to keep that secret. So you understand. Why you didn’t tell willow right away, yes, but you had months to come clean! Months where willow was telling me she didn’t want to know. She didn’t change her mind till the end of november! Which is when you started sabotaging my search. Because I didn’t know why you were searching. I didn’t know that willow was sick! I know that you would never intentionally hurt willow.

[ Breathes deeply ] Shocking that nobody told me, considering my reaction. No. It is scary to find out someone you love is sick. You are allowed to feel however you feel.

[ Down-tempo music plays ] My first serious boyfriend had cancer. And he died. I’m so sorry, joss. What was his name? Oscar. He had a brain tumor. We found out in september, and, eight months later, he was gone. How old? 16. And I know… that, you know, this is different.

[ Sniffles ] Willow’s cancer’s different. Everything’s different, really. I just — I really don’t want this for michael. You two are really close, huh?

[ Sniffles ] If the donor registry hadn’t found a donor for willow, then we wouldn’t have known that nina was a match until it was too late. I know. All of that is terrifying. Thank god it didn’t come to that. No, it didn’T. Do they know if the transplant’s going to affect the baby?

[ Exhales sharply ] I’m not sure. I got to call michael and willow first thing in the morning. I —

Well, in this case, it means that I can’t think of anything better than family time — just the three of us. When my little sister’s born, there’s gonna be four of us. Four! That’s a lot! Carly: Hey! Right on time. Hi. Uh… what’s going on? Is everything okay? I just would, um — I’d feel like an ass if I kissed you and then I ambushed you with a question. Oh. Okay. Ask me the question. Why don’t you want to find willow’s birth mother? Where did these papers come from? Well, aunt liesl, she cleaned out britt’s office, including some G.H. Papers that she shouldn’t have. I was gonna sort through it and return the papers that belong to the h– why? See for yourself.

[ Exhales sharply ] Willow’s getting chemotherapy.

[ Knock on door ] Joss. Can I come in? Of course. I can’t stop thinking about britt. If she hadn’t held off the hook, I would be dead right now! Joss, stop. No, no, no. No! Listen to me. I couldn’t have held her off on my own. And by the time you got to the pier, it would have been too late. Britt got cut saving me. The hook was after me. This all happened because of me! Joss, stop, stop. Take a breath. What you’re feeling is called “survivor’s guilt.” And if you’re not careful, it can really mess you up.

[ Monitor beeping ] Can I ask you a question? I don’t know if I’ll be able to answer it, but sure. Do you think my lawyer is any good? Otherwise, we’ll ask mr. Cassadine to cooperate. I wouldn’t hold your breath on that. When I questioned him this morning, the only thing he would tell me is that he was the father of esme’s baby. Did the lab turn up anything in her personal effects? The only thing that really stood out was the christmas ornament. Are we sure she had it on her? Yeah. Yeah, she definitely did. I asked the doctor. She had it on her. Okay. Can we trace it? It wasn’t mass-produced. Apparently it’s from poland, and it’s been hand-painted. So if we find out who painted it, then we can find out maybe who they sold it to. Apparent ly there was a firein the north tower bedroom. Seems a christmas tree went up in flames. Which begs the question, who would put a christmas tree in an unoccupied bedroom? You want to know

my guess? Same person that put toiletries in the bathroom or clothes in the closet. Oh, nothing fancy — just some sweats and the like, you know, loose-fitting, you know, suitable for a pregnant woman. You’ve been keeping esme prisoner, haven’t you? Right under my nose.

[ Sobbing ] Ever since I told you that I was searching for willow’s birth parents, I just… I’ve felt resistance. Like, w-when I told you I tracked down a source, you questioned their credibility. And then I mentioned that I had some great information, and you were — you were opposed… telling willow. You think I was wrong? Well, at the time, the reason seemed to make sense to me. Once we told her willow that her birth mother was dead, why get her hopes up when we found out that that was a lie? Why stress her out by saying that she might have been kidnapped and stolen from her birth parents? But then… I took a step back. And there was a pattern there, and the pattern became very clear. You don’t want willow’s birth parents to be found. No. I don’T. It is one thing to be grateful to britt. I’m grateful, too. I don’t even want to think about how I would be feeling if you had gotten killed. But there’s only one person who is responsible for britt’s death, and that is the hook. And, look, I am sorrier that I can ever say that I’m not a better shot and I didn’t kill the hook when I had the chance. I’m sorry, too. I mean, the world would be a much safer and… happier place. But even if you had shot the hook, there’s no guarantee that britt would have survived. There was poison in her system. She didn’t even know it. Do you think that it would have made a difference? We took off, and we left britt to cover for us. Does that make us partly responsible for her death? Esme: Mr. Grey seems very competent. He seems like he cares about defending me, but…

[ Monitor beeping ] I’m not paying him. He’s defending me for free. How do I know that I can trust him or his strategy? He says that if I can get an alibi — but I have no idea where I’ve been for the past few months — or my whole life, for that matter. I don’t know how I got here. I don’t know who got me pregnant. You’ll remember. What if I don’t? Traumatic memory loss isn’t uncommon. Permanent memory loss does happen, but it’s extremely rare, so the chances that you’ll remember are good. But to answer your question, mr. Grey is a great attorney. I think you can trust him. Spencer: If esme is the hook, then britt is dead because of me because I brought esme to port charles. No. We have talked about this. You are not responsible for anything that esme does. And if esme is the hook, that hasn’t been proven yet. Look, she’s in her third trimester of her pregnancy. I think it’s highly unlikely that she’d have the physical strength to attack britt with a hook. You do not know esme like I do. She can do a lot of damage when she wants. Alright, but… there isn’t just esme to consider now. There is also her baby. Did you have a plan, an end game, or were you just winging it, keeping her prisoner because, I don’t know, you couldn’t think of anything else to do? Esme turned up alive and pregnant with my child. I had every reason to believe that she was the hook. I couldn’t allow her to harm anyone else. I couldn’t turn her over to the police and risk her giving birth to my unborn child while incarcerated. So you lured her to wyndemere.No, esme was already here. She was stealing money from my safe. I took her to a tower bedroom. I locked her in. I enlisted demetrius to take care of her, and that was my mistake. Esme was able to manipulate demetrius. Esme manipulated you, nikolas! She fooled you into keeping her somewhere she could easily escape from, which she did — very successfully, I might add. She is cunning, creative, and she keeps a cool head. Qualities, my dear nephew, that I’m afraid you sadly lack. Wait a second! I have been protecting you for the sake of this family. Perhaps the cassadines would be better off if they cut their losses.

[ Doorbell rings ] Shouldn’t you answer that?

Long after willow learnedthe truth about harmony, she made the decision not to search for her birth parents. And I have to say, I was relieved. Why? I’m confused. You and I both grew up without our biological family, and — and we both went searching for answers. I mean, unlike me, you found your mother right away. I waited years to connect with the quartermaines. Okay. What’s the point? The point is, is that you and bobbie have a strong, loving relationship. Why wouldn’t you want that for willow? Because willow was afraid that her birth mother would turn out to be someone like nina. And the truth is, not all reunions turn out to be happy. Okay? Some of them are awful. They are. And willow has had so much loss and pain, I just wanted to spare her any more. That wasn’t your call to make! Well, the case notes said that she was originally diagnosed with leukemia in late august, but she didn’t start her first round of chemotherapy until late november. Why the delay? Well, when she was first diagnosed, her leukemia was in stage two. Mm-hmm. By the time she received treatment… it was stage four. Well, t-the doctors must have warned her. I mean, you don’t get diagnosed with leukemia and then wait three months to get treatment. You do if you’re pregnant. Once again, “goodnight moon” does the trick. Bedtime’s best friend.

[ Chuckles ] Hey. What happened? What happened? Chemo isn’t working. And my marrow donor can’t donate. What happened is I can barely be a mother to wiley. I can’t join in the conversation or ask about his day or even eat a damn cookie. Hey, look, willow. Willow. Willow? Wiley’s going to be okay. He’s not okay. He knows something is wrong. He’s scared. And it’s all my fault. This whole thing… is my fault. You were willing to stay and talk to the police. I was the one who asked britt to cover. I didn’t want to explain the gun. So our leaving is on me.

[ Scoffs ] You didn’t drag me. I left with you willingly. And, yeah, britt told us that she had it covered. And there was no reason not to believe her. But… I still feel like I’m alive at her expense. Maybe there’s another way to look at this. Britt saved your life. So don’t you owe it to her to live the best life you can? Nikolas: You know, I already sat through one pointless investigation at the pcpd, so if you want to ask more questions, you can call my lawyer. Nonsense! Please, do come in. Now, how can we be of help? Well, uh, esme prince showed up on the haunted star in the early morning hours of january 1st. She was soaking wet and suffering from hypothermia. Which, nikolas, you’re aware of because you showed up at the hospital with elizabeth. Oh, is it — is it a crime to show concern?

[ Chuckles ] So, the last time she was seen — esme — before that was back in november on pier 55, near the haunted star, which is coincidentally near where the boat from wyndemere docks, yeah? And seeing as she used to live at wyndemere, we’re thinking maybe she was either hiding out somewhere on spoon island or… maybe right here in this house.

That baby is innocent. Britt is gone. There’s nothing you can do to bring her back. But you can do something to make sure that esme’s baby is born safely. What? Don’t confront esme. Okay? Don’t interrogate her about britt or anything else, spencer. What if esme is lying about the…memory loss? Okay, but she is not lying about the pregnancy. And the priority right now should be the health and safety of that baby. And that means allowing esme to rest and recover.

[ Door opens ] Spencer: Is she awake? Awake and alert. I’d like to see her. You can tell commissioner ashford that I’ve okayed this visit. Thank you.

[ Knocking ] Esme: Yes?

[ Monitor beeping ] Do I know you? I think I would know if esme were living in my house. It’s a big house. There must be plenty of rooms that go unused. Esme could have taken refuge in any one of them, and you’d never know. Which is why we’d like to search the premises. Absolutely not. Dante: Come on. Nikolas, we search the house, we find out esme was never here, and we can move on with our investigation, yeah? Well, if you want to search my home, get a warrant. And for that, you’re gonna need to show probable cause, which there isn’t any. Jordan: D.A. Scorpio found plenty of evidence and was able to get judge winters to sign off on a warrant, but I thought I’d spare us all the time and trouble by giving you the option to voluntarily agree to the search. What evidence did the district attorney find? We do appreciate the courtesy, commissioner ashford, but as my nephew made clear, we have nothing to hide, so please feel free to search the house. That would take hours. Then best get started. Why don’t you accompany the detective and his officers, nikolas, so they don’t get lost? The way I give thanks for my life is I live it. Maybe you could try it. Yeah, maybe I could. Well, apparently the danger chemo poses to the fetus is higher during the first trimester because the organs are still, um, developing. It’s safer for the baby to c-chemotherapy in the second or third trimester. It’s safe for the baby, but not for willow. Is that what you’re saying? I have no idea how she is getting through this. To find out that she is pregnant and then to be diagnosed with a life-threatening illness? To have to choose between your own health… and the health of your unborn baby? What’s wrong? It’s not fair to lean on you. Willow, hey. You agreed to marry me. That’s what married people do. They lean on each other. Why aren’t you angry with me? What? When I got diagnosed, I didn’t share it with you. I didn’t include you in my decision-making. I didn’t give you a vote. I-I gambled with my life, with wiley’s security and future, with everything you and I planned together. And now… it looks like I’ve lost. You fight like hell when someone tries to make choices for you, so I-I’m confused. What gives you the right to decide what willow could and couldn’t know about her own family? Because for so long willow didn’t want to know! Yeah, but she reconsidered! She decided that she wants to track down her family. And not only that, she asked me — me — to search for them. I get that, but willow is having a really hard pregnancy, and the last thing she needs is stress. And I thought it was best not to open the door to total strangers with whom she shares biology and nothing else! You denied willow her own family! She has a family! She has michael and wiley, and she has you and me and a whole houseful of quartermaines! Enough! Carly, enough excuses! Enough, okay?! Willow’s biological family can give her things that none of us can!

of my many, manyclashes with michael and willow, I went to track them down, and they were at… the hospital. And I found them in dr. Terry randolph’s office. The chief of staff at general hospital. And an oncologist, sonny. I didn’t think much about it then, but, hey… dr. Terry randolph was treating willow. Hey. Listen. Willow and michael probably wanted to keep it quiet because the family didn’t say anything to me. Yeah. They probably do. And they don’t want to upset wile– you know, willow, by delaying treatment, she’s risking leaving wiley without a mother, the only mother that he has ever known. This must be so difficult for her. You know, I wonder how much influence michael has on her decision to delay this cancer treatment. We know michael. He’s very selfish. Yeah. He’s — he’s very focused. He’s single-minded in getting what he wants. Nina, this family infighting has to stop. We have to pull together for willow. Look, drew. I get it. Willow’s pregnant, and she wants her medical history to be complete as possible for her child’s sake. I understand that, but I felt… that the emotional consideration outweighed that, so, yes… I obstructed your efforts. Pretty considerably. Wha– describe “considerably.” Okay. When you tracked down denise makenzie, the firefighter who was on the colorado commune with harmony? I intercepted her before her meeting with you, and I paid her to back harmony’s original story about getting willow from some mythical “joan.” Then when denise recanted her story, I paid her off for not giving me up. When you went out after denise to “give her her glove back.” And then… most recently… I found the information on the commune leader, josiah, and I took it and I hid it so you couldn’t follow up on him. So the whole time that we were supposed to be working together, you were actually sabotaging me. I understand that you’re disappointed and frustrated. I am, too. Willow, we found one bone-marrow match, right? We can find another. There’s still time. There’s a lot less time than there was when I was first diagnosed, when I made the choice not to tell you, not to include you in my decision to wait. Which is the exact opposite of how you’ve always treated me. You didn’t have to include me in wiley’s life, much less let me adopt him. But you trusted me with your son. You made wiley our son. And now I may be leaving you both. At the very moment when I should have shared with you, I shut you out. Why don’t you hate me for that? How does esme seem to you? If this is your way of asking if she’s faking the memory loss, the answer is, I don’t know.

[ Sighs ] You know, kevin had started to assess her, and then my brother came and threw him out of the room. And he would never violate patient privacy, so he hasn’t said anything, but I have the feeling… that he believes her, you know? And he got to see her in all of her manipulative glory when she was living with us, so I think that he’d know if she was lying. Maybe we’ll get lucky and she’ll never remember. Why would that be a good thing? I’m spencer cassadine. My friend trina robinson and i are the ones who brought you to the hospital. Oh, um, thank you for that. How are you feeling? I, um, see-saw between numb and total panic. They say I could be charged with everything from revenge porn to… attempted murder, which is really scary. I don’t suppose you know where I’ve been hiding out the past few months. Apparently, that’s the only thing that could exonerate me. How much contact did you have with esme prince? I am so sorry for misleading you. For lying to me. I made the choice to protect willow long before we got together. There’s no contract, carly. There’s no “pre-existing condition” clause here. This is about us trusting each other. I let you in on an investigation, and you took advantage of my trust to undermine it. I was protecting willow! Do you understand?! You knew damn well that willow was the one who asked me to do the search. And… I get that willow was initially resistant to finding, to tracking down her birth mother, but then once you know that she reconsidered, didn’t that change your calculations? Yes. I was conflicted. I was conflicted. But then I decided that willow was better off not knowing. God, carly, if you knew the complete information about her health situation, you would’ve acted differently! Why? What are you talking about? What information? Is there something wrong with willow? She’s got leukemia. I could never hate you, willow. Never. And, yes, while I wish you would have shared your diagnosis with me from the start, I understand why you didn’T. I’ll never forget the pain of losing jonah. And I know… I know you won’t, either. You chose to protect the life you were carrying the way that seemed best to you, okay? And I’m — I’m good with that. I was selfish. You are the least selfish person that I know. I did what I wanted, and if I chose wrong, you and wiley will be left alone. That’s not gonna happen. Hey. Willow, we’re not gonna lose you. You can’t promise that. I can promise you this much… I will never regret — regret any — any day that I’ve spent with you. Making you wiley’s mother. I’ll never regret the love that you’ve given him and the place that you have in his life. And even if — even if wiley has to grow up without you — hey, even if wiley has to grow up without you, your love will sustain him. Even if he can’t consciously remember. Because I will remember. Well, if I were esme, I’d want to forget everything, too — all the crimes, all the mistakes. I can almost wish that for my own life. Not really, of course. I would never want to forget my kids or the people I love. But it would be nice to forget all the ways I’ve messed up. Would this have anything to do with, uh, whatever it is that’s going on between you and nikolas? Sorry. I don’t have an alibi for you.

[ Monitor beeping ] I suppose you never laid eyes on me before you and your friend brought me to the hospital. That’s not true.

You know, I treasure you. And not just because you’re the mother of my grandchildren. I have known you for most of your life. And I think of you as another daughter. That means a lot to me. Well, at first, willow was saying that the whole search was for medical history, but I knew there was more to it, and she admitted that… she needs a bone-marrow transplant. And the best chance for a match is from a family member. That’s why I stepped up the search. You don’t need to search. Nina is willow’s birth mother.

Alexis: I know. I won’t be able to, uh, make it back to the office this afternoon. Something came up… …with my family.

Nikolas: I’ll be quick. I just need a few minutes to grab my things. The less time I spend here, the better.

Victor: Spencer, where are you off to?

Sonny: Spencer’s coming home with me.

Victor: [ Scoffs ] Like hell he is.

Sonny: He can make his own decision whether he wants to stay in this pit.

Victor: I’ll be damned if I allow you to put my great-nephew’s future in jeopardy.

Nikolas: I appreciate you looking out for me, Uncle Victor, but the condition of my release was that I was to remain in your care until the date that my original sentence ended. And it’s past that date. So I’m free to do whatever I want.

Victor: Very well, of course you are. But you’ve just lost your friend Dr. Westbourne. I-isn’t this a time to be with family?

Nikolas: I will be with family.

Victor: [ Sighs ] I know you’ve suffered a dreadful loss. I-I’m truly, deeply sorry. So please stay here. Let me help you through this —

Nikolas: If it was just you, Uncle Victor, I would consider it. But the sooner that I get away from my father, the better.

Victor: Yeah, I heard Esme turned up last night. It was all over the news. I know you and Nikolas were always at odds over that troubled woman.

Nikolas: It’s more than that. Esme is pregnant with my father’s baby. So do you really think that he’s the best person to console me in my time of need?

Jordan: There’s no need for theatrics, Mr. Grey. I already spoke to Miss Prince’s neurologist, and he said she was capable of answering questions.

Terry: If her doctor signed off on it, I see no reason to stop the commissioner and Detective Falconeri from questioning Miss Prince.

Martin: No reason? My client is pregnant, fragile, can’t remember a single, solitary thing about her life. What could the police possibly hope to achieve by harassing her?

Terry: Dr. Finn. Can you please double check that Esme Prince is strong enough at the present moment to talk to the police and monitor her while they ask their questions?

Finn: Of course.

Terry: Thank you. If you see any reason for concern, don’t hesitate to contact me.

Finn: Will do. Please follow me.

Elizabeth: Want to talk about it?

Terry: It’s just been one thing after another, and I’m having to catch up on everything that Britt was taking care of. We were at her party last night, you know? She was dancing and singing. How is she just gone?

Nikolas: Thanks for meeting me on such short notice.

Alexis: It was no small feat given today’s news cycle. They found Esme — pregnant, no memory. Britt’s — Britt’s death. How is Spencer handling it?

Nikolas: Uh, Spencer isn’t exactly talking to me these days.

Alexis: He came over at Christmas. He told me about some of your issues.

Nikolas: Not surprised. Actually, I didn’t ask to meet to discuss Spencer. I’m in trouble. I need legal advice.

Alexis: Nikolas, how many times do I have tell you… I just… …I’m not an attorney?

Nikolas: …Need advice, Aunt Alexis, even if in an unofficial capacity.

Alexis: Don’t you have an uncle who’s a lawyer?

Nikolas: Yeah. He’s busy defending Esme on criminal prosecution.

Alexis: Good luck with that. That’s gonna be almost an impossible defense to mount.

Nikolas: All the more reason that she needs a good lawyer.

Alexis: I don’t care about Esme’s legal trouble. What I care about is why you care about it.

Nikolas: I’m the father of her baby. I need your help protecting my unborn child.

Willow: I know Terry will get to us as soon as she can, but it’s hard to wait.

Michael: Well, you know what? At least we’re waiting for good news.

Willow: Exactly. And I will only admit this to you. But… I’m impatient.

Michael: No. You? No, never.

[ Both chuckle ]

Willow: I want to have this transplant as soon as possible. I want to be able to tell your family that I have leukemia. But I have a donor, and my prognosis is good.

Michael: Is that why you haven’t told them to this point?

Willow: Partly. Of course, the main reason is Wiley. I know he’d pick up on everyone’s concern, and I don’t want him to be frightened. But some of it is self-protection… not wanting to see the fear in their eyes not wanting them to have to strain to be normal around me.

Michael: You don’t want to tell them about the problem until the problem’s solved.

Willow: Gee, who does that sound like?

Michael: [ Chuckles ] Yeah. No, I — I-I do that, too. Look, I-if… if keeping your diagnosis a secret from my family helped you, then I’d be all for it. I just don’t want you to think that you have to protect them. My mom, my sisters, the Quartermaines — they all love you. They’re your family, too.

Willow: Even your father?

Nina: Uh, this is just, uh, a — a blank laboratory report. You know, when Aunt Liesl cleaned out Britt’s office she just took a lot of these, um — these sensitive documents, you know? What I’m gonna do is I’m just gonna sort through all this and I’m gonna separate Britt’s personal documents and then return the documents that belong to G.H., but, um…

Ava: Nina, surely you don’t have to do that now.

Nina: Aunt Liesl — she’s a wreck. She won’t eat. She’s — she’s napping in my room. I just want to do whatever I can do, you know, to try to ease her grief.

Ava: Well, I think it’s admirable that you want to help. But losing Britt, it’s –it’s hard on you, too, right? Don’t you want to take at least a minute?

Nina: Yeah. You know, it was really nice reconnecting with Britt when she came back to Port Charles this time. I can’t believe that she’s gone.

Willow: Look, Sonny can be your family if you want. What do you want?

Michael: [ Chuckles ] What I want is for people that I love to stop pressuring me to reconcile with him.

Willow: Ouch.

Michael: No, it’s not just you. It’s — it’s — it’s Dante. It’s Kristina. It’s Olivia. It’s Brook Lynn. And I hate disappointing them. Most importantly, I hate disappointing you, but I’m — like, I’m not — I am not in a position to reconcile with — with Sonny right now.

Willow: Why not?

Michael: Because I would be lying… …faking respect for a man that I don’t have. The man that I grew up with, the man I grew up loving — he never came back from Nixon Falls. This man is a hypocrite. And he can’t stand being around my mom because when she looks at him, she sees him for what he’s not. And so do I.

Willow: That must be really painful for your dad… …to feel he’s not the man he once was, to know that you and your mom, the people he respects the most, don’t respect him. I’m sure that’s why he’s so infatuated with Nina, because she reflects back to him what he wants to see and tells him what he wants to hear.

Michael: Yeah, well, I hope they’re really happy together, then.

Willow: [ Inhales deeply ] Your father won’t be. He needs you, Michael. Sonny needs you to believe that he can be who he was again.

Michael: Sonny is convinced he’s — he’s perfect just the way that he is.

Willow: But you know better. And maybe for the sake of the father you loved, you can have some compassion for the man he’s turned out to be.

Alexis: You slept with Esme? Not only is she crazy, she’s your son’s girlfriend. What the hell’s wrong with you?! Oh, my god, Nikolas.

Nikolas: I know. It was wrong. It was stupid. It was selfish.

Alexis: You think?

Alexis: Does Ava know?

Nikolas: Martin is making sure that Esme is safe from jail and the police during the last few weeks of pregnancy. I’m concerned about after. I want full custody of my child.

Esme: I know — murders and porn.

Jordan: I understand you can’t remember anything, but Detective Falconeri and i were hoping we may be able to jog your memory.

Martin:  However, you do not have to answer their questions.

Esme: It’s okay. I want to.

Elizabeth: I’m really sorry about Britt.

Terry: We made a really good team. The hospital won’t be the same without her.

Elizabeth: God knows, I had my issues with her, but she really stepped up and became a good co-chief of staff.

Terry: Yeah.  Professional respect turned to friendship. I’m really gonna miss Britt, you know?

Elizabeth: I know.

[ Cellphone beeps ]

Elizabeth: I’m here if you need anything.

Terry: Yeah. Gotta go. My next appointment is here.

Elizabeth: Okay.

Terry: Thank you for being a good friend.

Spencer: I already told you that things between me and my father were damaged beyond repair. And Esme being pregnant with his kid makes that even worse. I’m not gonna be in the same house as him. Please, Uncle Victor, I need you to understand.

Victor: [ Sighs ] Get your things.

Victor: [ Sighs ] Sonny, take a seat.

Sonny: No, that’s fine. Thank you, though.

Victor: We both care about Spencer’s future. I think we can help each other.

Sonny: Not even when hell freezes over.

Victor: This is as difficult for me as it is for you. But I’m prepared to put my pride aside for Spencer’s sake. Now, the big question is — are you?

Nina: Well, Britt, you know, she had the kind of light inside of her that you always expect would keep burning. You should have seen her at her party that she threw for her birthday on New Year’s Eve. You never would have guessed that…

Ava: What? Guessed what?

Nina: Well, I guess there’s no harm in telling you now. Britt had Huntington’s Disease.

Ava: That’s a neurological disorder, isn’t it?

Nina: Yeah, it’s a really serious one. It’s genetic. Eventually, it would have killed her.

Ava: I’m so sorry. So that’s — that’s why she had her big party, huh?

Nina: Yeah. It was a goodbye of sorts, wasn’t it?  I just wish I knew so I could have told her how much I loved her. But at least she got the big birthday party that she always wanted, right?

Ava: Yeah.

Nina: And it’s a small consolation that Esme is in police custody.

Ava: Oh, Esme. She’s full of surprises. Turns out that she’s pregnant… with Nikolas’ baby.

Nina: What?

Ava: Mm-hmm.

Nina: Oh… what?! I have no idea how you must be feeling.

Ava: But we’re not — we’re not talking about me. We’re talking about you right now.

Nina: Hey, hey, hey. We’re both going through something right now. This is what we can do for each other. We can support each other.

Ava: The truth is, I am so mad. I am so angry with Nikolas. I don’t even think there’s a word to describe how mad I am.

Nina: Well, what are you gonna do?

Ava: I’m gonna take your advice. I’m gonna get this divorce over with as quickly as possible.

Nina: So you’ve given up this idea of revenge?

Michael: Yeah, so it must be especially hard on you.

Terry: Britt was always focused on her patients. So I know that if she were still here, she’d tell me to get down to business. Let’s start with your recent bloodwork. [ Exhales sharply ] Alright. Unfortunately… your numbers aren’t where we want them. Your blast percentage has increased and your red blood cell count is actually a bit lower than before you began chemo.

Michael: What’s — w-w-what does that mean?

Terry: The chemo has not had the effect we hoped.

Willow: What about the baby?

Terry: I transferred your case to Dr. Navarro. According to your latest labs and ultrasound, your baby’s healthy. Your daughter is strong. But she’ll have to be for what’s next. You all will. Are you ready?

Nina: How does your revenge on Nikolas reward me?

Ava: I’m moving out.

Nina: Why?

Ava: I had a very productive meeting with Victor last night.

Nina: Productive for Victor, I’m sure.

Ava: And it turns out, he can give me exactly what I want.

Nina: Which is what?

Ava: Wyndemere. Spoon Island. The whole enchilada.

Nina: Good for you. You’re gonna take Nikolas’ home?

Ava: Well, it’s my home, too. And after all that loverboy has done, I’m gonna get my pound of flesh, every single acre of it.

Nina: So what makes you think that Victor or Nikolas will agree to that?

Ava: Well, I don’t know what recourse they have, considering my leverage — infidelities and — and children out of wedlock, and…

Nikolas: I, Nikolas Cassadine, of sound mind and body do hereby acknowledge and confess that I, and I alone, am responsible for the disappearance of Esme Prince. I know this because I killed her.

Ava: I am gonna get Wyndemere.

Nina: So you’re leaving?

Ava: Yeah. I thought you’d be happy to get rid of me.

Nina: Yeah.  [ Chuckles ] I’ve sort of gotten used to having you around.

Ava: Nina Reeves. Are you gonna miss me?

Nina: God help me.

Ava: [ Chuckles ]

Nina: I think I am.

Ava: [ Laughs ] Oh, you know something? If someone had told me sometime ago that I would hear you say those words, I would never have believed it. And if they told me that I would feel exactly the same way, I would have slapped them silly. But here we are.

Sonny: This has nothing to do with pride. Only reason I’m here is because of Spencer. So go ahead. You — you need to say something? Say it.

Victor: I came back to Port Charles with one goal — to reunite my family. As a family man yourself, you must understand how important it was for me to strengthen my family against all threats. Now, I’ve done everything I can to bridge this chasm between Nikolas and Spencer, to try to show them how important it is for them to have a good father-son relationship. But…I’m just hoping that where I failed you — you might succeed. Spencer looks up to you. He listens to you. Use your influence with him to convince him that it’s in his best interest to r-repair his relationship with his father.

Sonny: You’re asking me for a favor after what you’ve done, Victor?

Victor: Oh, no, no. I’m not asking you to do me a favor, Sonny. This is for Spencer.

Sonny: Do you think it’s in Spencer’s best interest to be around his father? I don’t know if you know this, but there was a time where I was disappointed in Spencer. He was stalking Ava. But you know what? He was a kid. He was angry. He was hurt. He lashed out. Nikolas does not have an excuse. He has had every opportunity to be a — a father to his son. And he hasn’t done it, Victor!

Victor: I don’t disagree with you. Nikolas seems incapable of — of repairing the trust of his son. But I do know Nikolas loves Spencer. Now, sh– does he deserve to be cut out of his life? Can you honestly endorse that, given the state of affairs between you and your own son?

Sonny: Okay, this is where you — you gotta — you gotta watch yourself, okay? You keep my family out of your mouth. Or that will be the last time you ever say anything.

Alexis: I’m not gonna be a part of taking away a child from its mother. It’s wrong.

Nikolas: You would leave my child at the tender mercies of Esme Prince because of your principles?

Alexis: Okay, I’m gonna tell you the truth. Sam was taken away from me by my father, and I am not about to help another Cassadine take away a child from its mother, no matter who she is.

Nikolas: But Esme isn’t —

Alexis: I know she’s awful. I don’t care. She’s still the mother.

Nikolas: The baby is mine, too. She can’t have any part in raising it.

Alexis: You know, Nikolas, it’s not like you have a record of being a sterling parent.

Nikolas: I know I’m far from perfect. Okay? I failed Spencer on every level, but I know what my mistakes are, and I won’t make them again as long as I don’t have to deal with Esme’s poisonous influence. She can’t have any part in raising our child.

Alexis: This isn’t about protecting an unborn child. This is about you wanting to atone for your mistakes.

Dante: That’s Cameron Webber. That’s Josslyn Jacks. They were the victims of the revenge porn. That’s Trina Robinson. She was framed for the revenge porn. That guy there, that’s Oz Haggerty. He accused you of drugging him. He’s also one of the victims in The Hook attacks.

Esme: I-I don’t recognize any of these people, and I don’t know why I would have done such horrible things. I-I’m not a murderer, at least I don’t think I am. Just — I can’t look at any more photos. Take that away.

Martin:  That’s alright. Just remember, she is a young, pregnant woman with traumatic memory loss. Unless you’re gonna charge her with any of these heinous crimes, I’m afraid I’m gonna have to pull the plug on this interrogation. Right now.

[ Monitor beeping ]

Jordan: Miss Prince, Mr. Grey, we’ll be in touch.

Martin:  Hey. Not to worry. I know how to set you free.

Dante: If she’s faking it, she’s putting on a hell of a performance.

Jordan: And if she’s not?

Dante: It doesn’t really change anything. We still have evidence and witness testimony tying her to the revenge porn and the drugging and attempted murder of Oz Haggerty. Right, just ’cause she doesn’t remember doing it doesn’t mean she’s innocent.

Jordan: And The Hook attacks?

Dante: I don’t think it’s her.

Finn: I was just, uh, picking up a chart.

Elizabeth: I could tell Terry really appreciated you stepping in to help with the Esme situation.

Finn: How are you doing? I can imagine how difficult this is seeing Esme again.

Elizabeth: It was certainly a shock.

Finn: Yeah, especially, since she’s pregnant with, uh, Nik’s baby after you recently miscarried.

Elizabeth: You don’t have to do this.

Finn: Do what?

Elizabeth: Pretend like you care.

Finn: I’m not pretending. I-I would never do that with you. You’ll always be Violet’s aunt, and I’ll always care about you. Just ’cause we didn’t work out, that doesn’t change how I feel.

Elizabeth: Finn, wait. There’s something I have to tell you… about Esme.

Jordan: It’s too soon to drop Esme as a suspect in the hook attacks.

Dante: I-I know, I know, I understand. But — but let’s — you know, it’s getting less and less likely, right? So you have the victims — Ava, Diane, Oz Haggerty — all ties to Trina, right? The two outliers being Brando Corbin and the exotic animal dealer. And Brando was only killed ’cause he followed Josslyn out into the alleyway and he was attacked.

Jordan: Yeah. Well, wrong place, wrong time.

Dante: Right. And then you got the exotic animal dealer probably hooking the killer up with — with the venom.

Jordan: So he was killed to shut him up.

Dante: Right. And Esme in her condition… I mean, do you really think she could have killed that guy and jumped out the window when she heard me coming in the room? I just don’t see it.

Jordan: Well, who else would be targeting the people around Trina Robinson?

Dante: Well, why don’t we look at it a different way? Maybe we can eliminate Esme as a suspect by figuring out where she’s been hiding out the last few months.

Michael: We always knew that the bone marrow transplant was Willow’s best chance, so, um, we’re ready to do whatever it takes to help her beat this.

Terry: The match comes at a good time. Given Willow’s labs, I want to schedule this transplant as soon as possible.

Willow: Isn’t it possible the procedure could harm the baby?

Terry: Complications can arise with bone marrow transplant. Given that you’re eight months pregnant and how healthy the baby is, my preference would be for you to deliver before the procedure.

Willow: But couldn’t a premature birth harm the baby?

Terry: Dr. Navarro will add her opinion, but plenty of babies are born prematurely safely and without complications. I think you have every reason to expect a positive outcome. As soon as you’re ready after delivering… we’ll do the transplant. I’ll give you some time to discuss.

Michael: Okay, alright. So — so the chemo results weren’t exactly what we were hoping for, but we’re blessed to have found a donor.

Willow: I’m not so sure I can go through with it.

Nina: Uh, I don’t have much family, and it seems to be getting smaller every day. Britt and Nelle and J and then… not being able to see Wiley. Didn’t we start to team up when I was on the brink of losing the family that I found with Valentin and Charlotte? We have been through a lot, haven’t we? I’ve really come to depend on you.

Ava: I’ve lost my fair share of family, too, haven’t I? And Nikolas was my family. Oh, that’s why it hurt so much when our marriage fell apart. But you were there for me. Gave me a place to stay… [ Chuckles ] …So I wouldn’t be alone, a place where I had a friend I could confide in. [ Voice breaking ] It means so much to me.

Nina: I hope you get everything you want. You go get ’em. And just so you know… your room’s not going anywhere.

Nikolas: Spencer’s the one that gave up on me. I don’t blame him. I mean, I made mistake after mistake. I-I betrayed him in all of the worst ways.

Alexis: I’ll say. You slept with his girlfriend. [ Sighs ] But you are still his father.

Nikolas: Doesn’t matter. No. Spencer looks at me, he sees a cautionary tale. I’m not the kind of man that he wants to be. In his eyes, the only way to prevent that is to sever all ties. I don’t even think he’s wrong. But I have a responsibility to my unborn child to rectify the mistakes of my past, to give my baby, the unborn baby, the life that I could never give Spencer.

Alexis: What about your responsibility to Spencer? You keep talking and focusing on this unborn baby. Have you just given up your relationship with Spencer, the son you already have?

Finn: Elizabeth, what about Esme?

Elizabeth: [ Sighs ]

Jordan: Nurse Baldwin? A few minutes?

Elizabeth: Uh, can you give me a second?

Jordan: This won’t take long.

Elizabeth: Yes. What do you need?

Jordan: A statement… about you and Esme Prince.

Victor: I, uh, remember the news surrounding a — a rather contentious visitation battle between your son and your… well, Nina Reeves. I also know that you and your father overcame your own differences towards the end of his life, and I’m asking you to use that experience to help give Spencer the same chance with his father as you had with yours.

Sonny: In a relationship… both people have to want it and be willing to work at it. Nikolas doesn’t want to work at it, and I don’t even think Spencer wants it anyway. So if he changes his mind, it’s not gonna be because of me.

Victor: Well, we never have as much time as we want.

Sonny: What does that mean?

Spencer: I’m ready.

Sonny: That’s all you got?

Spencer: Uh, yeah. I bumped into Demetrius on his way up to the north tower. He said he’d be happy to send the rest of my things.

Victor: Well, the north tower’s closed.

Spencer: I guess not anymore. He went right up the stairs after I finished talking to him.

Victor: Ah, well, I’ll make sure the rest of your things are sent out to you.

Spencer: Thank you for understanding, Uncle Victor. I’ll still see you around, I hope.

Victor: [ Chuckles ] Just try to get rid of me.

Spencer: I don’t care what everyone says about you. I’m glad that you’re here.

Victor: So am I.

Elizabeth: I don’t understand. I already gave you my statement after Esme attacked me on the pier.

Dante: Right. Uh, do you remember — do you remember if she was pregnant at all?

Elizabeth: I was actually just about to tell Finn that I was surprised when I found out she was pregnant, so, no, I didn’t notice that night. Sorry I can’t be more helpful.

Dante: No, no, I mean — I mean, all the surviving victims, not one of them have mentioned that their attacker was pregnant, and she would have been showing at the time.

Elizabeth: Yeah, well, it was dark and she was wearing all black. It happened really fast. And I hit my head, things just went…fuzzy. Is she still a prime suspect in the attacks?

Jordan: She’s still a person of interest, but we have reason to think she may not be the killer.  I reviewed the statement Britt Westbourne gave to Detective Bennet. Dr. Westbourne fought with the hook for several minutes, but she was also an OB. It seems likely that she would have noticed if she was pregnant, but she made no mention of it. Still, we can’t rule Esme out as a suspect.

Dante: The real question is, where has Esme been hiding and why?

Finn: I don’t know the why, but I got an idea about the where. You might want to start with Wyndemere.

Nikolas: Spencer’s a grown man. He’s made his decision. Of course, I’m gonna be here for him if he changes his mind and he wants a relationship with me.

Alexis: And meanwhile, you get a do-over with this unborn baby? No, that’s not how it works. And what are you gonna do when the baby grows up and wants to know where his brother is? You’re gonna say, “I gave up on him”? You don’t get to do that. A parent takes care of all of their children. That’s your job. It might be impossible sometimes, but that’s your job, Nikolas.

Nikolas: I hear you. [ Sighs ] But right now, I can’t do anything for Spencer, so I’m gonna do everything I can for my unborn baby. And that includes protecting it from Esme. She’s dangerous. Can you — can you honestly say that it’s in that child’s best interest to have Esme Prince in its life? I love this baby, and I want to do right by it.

Alexis: I will find you another attorney that can handle difficult custody cases.

Nikolas: Thank you.

Alexis: Thank me by taking my advice. Do not give up on Spencer.

Michael: You heard Terry. She wouldn’t have recommended early labor if — if she thought it would harm the baby.

Nina: True. So what are you gonna do on that big pile of rocks all by yourself?

Ava: Well, I have Avery. And I’m assuming that you’re gonna pop in from time to time.

Nina: Yeah, I’ll tag along when Sonny comes to pick up and drop off Avery.  [ Laughs ] What?

Ava: Spencer?

Sonny: He’s going to be living with me for a little while. I just dropped him off at the penthouse.

Nina: How’s he doing?

Sonny: Well, between, you know, losing Britt and cutting ties with his father, he’s not having the greatest day.

Ava: Well, I’m glad he has you.

Sonny: Yeah, well, I-I never thought I’d see the day that you would, you know, feel bad for Spencer.

Ava: You know, he apologized to me. He did. A real sincere apology.

Sonny: Well, good for him. Yeah.

Ava: Yeah. And that’s one less person that I have to evict from Wyndemere. I’m taking it from Nikolas in the divorce.

Sonny: [ Laughs ] Congratulations.

Ava: Mm-hmm. Oh, that reminds me.

Sonny: What?

Ava: I have to call my lawyer. So… excuse me.

Sonny: Alright. So, uh… …how you holding up?

Nina: Not great. Not great. Spencer’s not the only one having a rough time of it.

Sonny: Yeah?

Nina: Yeah.

Sonny: Would you like me to take care you?

Nina: I do want you to take care of me.

Sonny: Okay.

Nina: Hold me. Take care of me. But before we do all that, how about… two hot ciders? I’ve got those cinnamon sticks.

Sonny: Mm. Okay.

Willow: Whatever the news, tells us. We can handle it.

Terry: All bone marrow donors have to undergo a physical exam before donating. Your donor’s doctor didn’t clear her for the procedure.

Nina: As promised, two hot ciders with cinnamon sticks. Hey. Is everything okay? Sonny?

Sonny: No.

Willow: But how can that be?

Terry: Sometimes potential donors have medical conditions that make them unable to donate that they weren’t aware they had before they entered the registry. That’s why we do the physicals.

Michael: Where do we go from here?

Terry:We keep looking for a match.

Michael: I know — I know you’re doing everything you can.

Willow: And I wasn’t sure I wanted to go through early labor.

Terry:Given your lab numbers, I’d like us to prioritize this.

Michael: What — what about, um — what about other treatments?

Terry:We have to consider them, of course. Anything to give us time to find a new donor.

Michael: Okay? Uh, just — just let me know how I can help. Any resources you need, don’t hesitate to ask.  We will do everything in our power to give Willow… the time that she needs. We’re still in this fight.

Terry:Absolutely.

Esme: How can you set me free? The cops seem so sure that I’ve done all of these terrible things.

Martin: Hey. Now, the only evidence that ties you to that revenge porn or drugging the bartender is testimony of a dead man. As for the murders, the police got a theory that links you from a motivational standpoint, but some of the victims don’t fit the pattern. And not to be too indelicate about it, but you are very pregnant and that casts serious doubt on whether or not you would even be capable of attacking somebody like that with a hook.

Esme: Do you know how condescending you sound?

Martin: Yeah. But don’t take it out on me. I’m a feminist. I’m just telling you what I know.

Esme: [ Exhales sharply ] So… what does all of this mean?

Martin: One thing is for sure. If you had an alibi, I might be able to… persuade the PCPD not to charge you. So, it’s vital we figure out before they do where you’ve been hiding all this time.

Esme: Then I would have an alibi?

Martin: Key to your freedom.

Jordan: We searched Wyndemere for Esme once before, after Oz Haggerty’s testimony at Trina’s trial.

inn: Yeah, you know, I just think she’s been hiding out on the island. Maybe not the house, but, you know, every time she’s been seen, it’s been near the pier where the launch departs from, you know, and of all the places in Port Charles where Esme spent time, she spent most of it on Spoon Island. Seems like that’d be the best place to make it difficult for her to be detected, alright? Especially if everybody was focused on Wyndemere.

Dante: They did find her on The Haunted Star soaking wet. Maybe she was going to or from Wyndemere and… fell in the water?

Jordan: It’s certainly worth searching Wyndemere again for evidence of her presence on the island.

[ Sighs ]

[ Horse whinnies softly ] I want to stay with thor. Uh, we’ll go back. We just, uh, need to take a minute. ‘Cause mommy’s tired? No, it’s just — it’s — it’s cold outside. We just need to warm up.

[ Horse whinnies ]

[ Shivering ] I’m not cold. What? You’re freezing. Your nose is about to fall off. It is not! Oh, yeah? Okay. Then, uh, what do you call, uh — what do you call this? That’s your thumb. Are you sure? You better check. When my little sister comes, I’m gonna guard her nose, and she’s gonna guard mine. Oh, is that right? I can’t wait for her to be here.

[ Chuckles ] Neither can we.

[ Horse whinnies ] I understand that clairborne county, colorado, is a very rural area, but I do not understand how, in this digital age, there could be still three josiahs out there that you can’t find addresses for. And she’s pregnant? Yes. Which brings me to my question, um — do you have any tips for how to be a good big brother?

[ Indistinct conversations ]

[ Monitor beeping ] I can’t sleep. Can you give me something stronger?

[ Beeping continues ] Yes, I can arrange that. You’re sure the baby’s okay? I already told you, the baby’s heart pattern looks good. There are no signs of distress. I still can’t believe esme jumped. I mean, it’s a miracle. Right? That she and the baby are okay? Yeah, she’s one lucky girl. I’m glad martin agreed to take her case. I just — I wish I could get in there and talk to esme. Nikolas. What? I’m just saying. That’s not gonna happen. Esme: Who are you?

[ Monitor beeping ] I’m glad you asked, esme. I am a mother whose daughter has been taken from her. And what do you want? My pound of flesh.

Nikolas, listen to me — you need to stay as far away from esme as possible. Listen, if esme is faking her amnesia, I’m gonna know. Why would she? She has all the leverage if she remembers, and seeing you could bring back those memories. Do you — do you want to risk that? Of course not, but if I — then stay out of her room. Hey, you went in there, and she didn’t “remember you.” Well, I’m not the father of her baby, and my face isn’t the last one she saw before she chucked herself off the parapet. I want to see esme myself. Too bad. The longer it takes to remember, the better for us. It buys us time. For what, I have no idea. But I don’t want to think about that right now. Hey. It’s gonna be okay, elizabeth. No, listen to me. As we speak, demetrius is cleaning every trace of evidence that esme was in the north tower, and once he’s done, it is gonna be esme’s word against ours. Great. Until then, stay away from her. Drew: Hey, guys. I just came by to see if I could take comet out for a little ride.

[ Breathes sharply ] Uncle drew, did you meet thor? I did not. In the paddock. Did he bring his hammer? Actually, uh — uh, thor is what wiley named the new foal. Oh, right. Of course. I mean, I saw him out there — I just didn’t know he had a new name. Can I take uncle drew out to meet thor? Please? Wiley’s so excited about the new horse, we can’t keep up with him.

[ Chuckles ] Mommy and daddy are too cold.

[ Laughs ] Well, I would love it if you took me out to introduce me to the one and only thor. Yay!

[ Mouths words ]

[ Horse whinnies ] Come on.

[ Chuckles ] Show me the way. Is he strong? I just need a minute.

[ Door closes ] You got it. Dex. What are you doing here? I-I needed to talk to you. Did you hear about dr. Westbourne? No. What about her? There was another hook attack last night. Oh, god. That’s awful. Why would the hook attack britt? Well, the way I understand it, the hook was after someone else, britt intervened, and the intended victim got away. Well, that’s good. I mean, no one got hurt, right? Britt’s okay, isn’t she?

[ Whispers ] Uh, come here. Come here. No, she’s not. Britt died. But she — britt was fine. She’s fine. Well, according to the invader, britt suffered a scratch. The hook had poison on it, and britt collapsed about an hour later. Was she alone? No, she was with her mom. Oh, my god.

[ Breathes deeply ] I know it’s terrible. It’s awful. It’s — this happened because of me. So, did you know? Esme and your father… I found out right before I went to pentonville. That is rough. I knew that my father had slept with esme, but I did not know that esme was pregnant until last night. A-and your father, how long has he known? No idea. But I definitely got the impression that he knew before last night. Mm, and did esme admit to attacking people with the hook? No. Of course not. Can you imagine esme admitting to anything, ever?

[ Sighs ] She said she can’t remember a thing. Nina. Hi. Hey, thank you for meeting me here. You know, there are reporters all around the metro court hoping to get a quote about britt. I — you know, I had the security try to — what? They’re vultures, okay? Yeah, I hope that they don’t get ahold of aunt liesl ’cause that will not be pretty. Is this all you got here, one box? Yeah. Just one box. That’s all she had. Alright. Frank, can you take this to nina’s car? Yes, sir. Hey. Hey. Yeah? How are you doing otherwise? Well, I’m not great. I’m really worried about aunt liesl. You know, I talked to scott this morning, and she is broken. She’s grieving. She lost a child. There’s no greater pain.

[ Whispers ] Yeah, I know. You know, she doesn’t handle grief well. I mean, who does? But she was supposed to be here. She packed that box. Where do you think she is? Did — did liesl know that esme prince is in this hospital? I d– sonny. No. “A pound of flesh”? Shakespeare, right?

[ Monitor beeping ] Perhaps you’ll recognize another quote from his scottish tragedy in which a certain lady says, “look like th’innocent flower, but be the serpent under’T.” Look, I-I-I-I — I-I don’t know what happened to your daughter, but whatever did, I-I-I-I don’t remember. Is that supposed to invoke my mercy? No, look — that the taking of my daughter’s life was forgettable? Look, I’m sorry. Whatever happened to your daughter, I didn’t do it! How do you know if you don’t remember? You do not deserve the peace I’m about to bestow upon you, but the world does. Now, you owe my daughter an explanation. And you’d better think of one fast because you’re about to see her.

[ Muffled shouting ]

Schweigen! Another peep, and I will make this exquisitely painful. You scratched her with that infernal hook. She died in my arms. Now it’s your turn.

[ Sighs ] On the other hand, she’s got a baby bump out to here, so… for her to be running around stabbing people, it seems unlikely. But if esme isn’t the hook, that means that somebody else is out there targeting trina and the rest of us. But who else besides esme would be targeting trina? I don’t know. But I do think that you and me and trina and josslyn, we should all get together and figure out what’s next. Yeah, you know what? You guys might have to meet without me. Just let me know what you decide. Why are you acting so weird? Is — is this about our parents or…? W– what? I do– I don’t know what you mean. No, um, what is it? What’s going on? Joss and I broke up. [ Breathes sharply ] Britt interfered with me. I got away. What? Josslyn, oh, my god. Are you okay? Yeah, I’m fine. Thanks to britt and dex. Was it esme? I don’t know. I — [ Sobs ] The attacker was wearing a mask. I-I couldn’t see their face. All I saw was this hook swinging around. Why didn’t you wait for the police? I-I was — I was so freaked out. I just — I wanted to get out of there, and I didn’t have anything helpful to tell them. So you left britt alone? Well, she said it was okay.

[ Breathes sharply ] She — she said she was fine. She told us to go. She had it handled. You spoke to britt? Yes. She wasn’t wounded. Nothing was wrong. I didn’t know she was injured. That — that — that’s not what I mean. I don’t think she knew. Josslyn, that’s not what I’m asking. Why did britt tell the police that she didn’t know the identity of the person being attacked? Because of me. Everything seems fine. Yeah, I’m gonna go try to find aunt liesl, okay?

[ Indistinct conversations ] Elizabeth. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to interrupt. Have — have you — have you seen liesl obrecht? No, not since last night.

[ Cellphone beeps ] Sorry… no, that’s okay. Sonny. What do you want? Have you spoken to spencer? Not today. Why? Well, as you recall, he and britt were pretty close. I’m concerned about how he’s taking the news of her death. Why don’t you try talking to him? Because he’s not taking any of my phone calls or texts. What did you do now? Oh, you’re gonna find out soon enough. As you heard, uh, esme is in the hospital. Yeah, she’s right in that room. That’s right. Yeah. Right. Turns out she’s pregnant. Are you telling me that spencer’s gonna be a father? It’s not spencer’s baby. It’s mine.

[ Suspenseful music plays ] You sick —

You and joss broke up? Oh, you think you can’t believe it? But when I got out of pentonville, I asked you, and you said that you guys were good. I thought we were. I guess I was wrong. So the breakup wasn’t mutual, then? Joss said that we have grown apart. Is this because of that jerk, dex? You made my daughter leave the scene of a crime. I want to know why. Dex didn’t make me do anything. It was a mutual decision. And britt agreed. She said she could handle it. And what if the attacker had followed you? Where did you go? The reason we didn’t stick around for the police is because I was carrying. It’s a gun sonny gave me for work. It’s not registered to me. I don’t know where it came from or what would come back if the police ran a trace on it. Well, at least I know why you felt safe going wherever.

[ Sighs ] Alright, you should probably go. It’s okay. Your mom has questions, I’m happy to explain. Thank you, but I can fill her in. I’m gonna walk you out.

[ Door opens ] Look, joss. I… listen, it’s just better if my mom hears everything from me. Everything? Oh, god, no. No, I just want to make sure she understands that you didn’t talk me into anything. And that the decisions I made were mine. Any regrets? Other than leaving britt alone… not one. I feel like I should stay.

[ Horse whinnies in distance ] Okay. Let’s go visit thor. No. Are you sure you’re not — not doing too much? Please, I’m barely doing anything. And I just don’t want you to push yourself too hard. Now that the first round of chemo is out of the way, I’m getting my strength back. This morning, I was actually hungry. Uh, yeah, I noticed, you, uh, you ate a whole piece of toast. And I picked it up all by myself. Mm.

[ Laughs ] I am going to get through this. I’m counting on it.

[ Breathes sharply ] Don’t panic. Melanie lured wiley back into the house with some [Chuckling] Hot chocolate. What about us? We like hot chocolate. Aw. You guys seem like you’re doing better. We’re hanging in there. Yeah. Hey, have you, um — have you heard anything at all from the donor registry? Uh, no match yet, but, you know, hope springs eternal. How is the search going for my birth family?

[ Sighs ] Well, I’m sorry, I don’t have any — any new news, but my reporters, they’re still working on it. Well, hopefully they find a lead soon because obviously a relative is the best bet for a bone marrow donor. Yeah, well, believe me, they know the urgency here. And I’m glad I ran into you guys, because I do have a question. Fire away. Yeah, um… willow, did — did harmony or doug stay in touch with the leader of the commune in colorado? Specifically, did they ever mention a guy by the name of josiah? Yes. Didn’t I tell you? Harmony took me to visit josiah after we left. Aunt liesl.

[ Monitor beeping ]

[ Breathes sharply ] Oh, my god. Did you kill her?! Not yet. That was just a sedative to keep her quiet. Okay, okay. So esme’s fine, baby is fine. There’s no lasting injury. Not yet. No! Not ever. Okay, I-I’ve got to get you out of here. You go. I’ll be just a moment. No! No! Stop it! Give — stop it! Aunt liesl! Listen to me! This is not what britt would have wanted. My britta cannot want anything anymore. She’s dead because of her! Oh. Okay, so you would kill a mother and her baby?

What do you remember about your visit to josiah?

[ Sighs ] Sorry. I don’t remember much of anything. I only know I visited because it was my first time on an airplane. I remember looking out the window at the clouds and harmony giving me a piece of gum so my ears would pop, but…that’s about it. And that’s the only time that you went to visit him? As far as I can recall. Shiloh made harmony cut ties with josiah when we joined dawn of day. Yeah, of course he did. He had to cut off your escape route. Why? Do you think josiah knew who my birth father was? Well… look, my reporters are still searching for other members of the commune, but we do think that, you know, josiah probably would be our best bet. Well… here’s hoping you find him. And soon. In the meantime, it’s so important just to stay positive. Okay? I know. And…I am. Yeah, you are. Good. And if I can ask… if you’ve got time and you have the energy, just to give carly a call, okay? She’s just concerned that with the stress of the pregnancy, any more bad news about the search for your biological family could just be a little overwhelming for you. Well, mom doesn’t know that — that willow’s sick. No. No, willow asked me not to say anything, and — and I haven’T. She’s just — she’s worried. And to be honest, I’m worried, too, just that maybe you’re losing hope. Believe me, I am holding onto hope with both hands. I am determined to be here to see my daughter and wiley grow up.

cody? Are you here? Felicia! Hey. You just missed it. Missed what? Well, I brought in the new year by staying up all night helping a-a struggling filly. She was, uh, trying to give birth. Uh! It reminded me of the time I helped britt with that miracle baby born on christmas eve. You know, if you think about it, I guess every life is a miracle.

[ Chuckles ] Yeah. So, uh, what brings you to the q stables so bright and early? Mac has been trying to reach you. He’s in the middle of an investigation. Otherwise he would have come here to tell you himself. Tell me what? I am so sorry, cody. Britt died last night. Maxie jones, you and britt westbourne were friends and related by marriage, right? Do you have a comment on her tragic death? Can you please have the decency to let us grieve before you hound us with questions? Hey! Hey! Leave her alone! Whoa, whoa, whoa. This is my hotel. Get away from her! If you don’t leave now, I’m calling security. No. Leave! Go!

[ Sighs ] Thank you, nina. I can’t believe this. Any of it. No. Neither can I. Liesl, what are you doing? What does it look like? I’m saving what’s left of my daughter. I need to make a phone call.You already made a phone call. If your lawyer doesn’t want to show up, I don’t know what to tell you. I need to talk to my son. Britt westbourne is dead. She wasn’t just my ex-girlfriend, she was — she was an important part of spencer’s life. And I need to reach him before anyone else tells him about it. But he’s not taking any of my calls. You can do that on your own time. I mean, we got a string of murders we’re trying to solve here, and I need answers. [ Monitor beeping ] Can’t you take these off me? Sorry, the staff’s not allowedto remove the restraints. All I remember is… waking up here with some police detective asking me questions that I couldn’t answer. Are you sure there’s nothing else you remember, esme?

[ Door closes ] Did we have a good night’s sleep last night? And did we make all gone with our breakfast smoothie? Where were you last night? My favorite security guard looked the other way again and covered for me while I slipped out for a little night air. And where’d you go? Oh, you know, this way and that. Did your, uh…walk take you anywhere near the pier? I don’t know what you mean. Word is someone’s sunk a hook into britt westbourne last night. Oh, dear. How is she? She’s dead. I don’t know how I couldn’t have seen it. I mean, I must be blind. It was right in front of my face. What was? Not what. Who. It was you.

Oh. Hi, honey. What are you doing here? Well, um… trina called. Said she’s worried about you. Said you’re having a hard time shaking the news about britt’s death. It’s just so tragic and unbelievable. And [Sighs, chuckles] She wasn’t just my boss. I-I respected her. She was my friend. I know. It is tragic, baby. Look, I want you to know, right here and now, that I will stand by your side. I will hold your hand at britt’s memorial service, okay? I’m here for you. Because… this morning when I woke up, I watched you sleep. And, baby, I was just… I was overcome with gratitude for you and for us. Look, life goes on. Just has to. So, I went to the florist and I said, “help me. Please help me with something that will give us hope for the future.” And… what is that, babe?

[ Chuckles ] That is a calathea. The florist says it symbolizes new beginnings. Well, that gave me hope. Because you and i are a new beginning. Britt got nicked by the hook and — and — and the venom poisoned her. So she died on the night of her first birthday party. It’s tragic. It’s hard to make sense of it. Yep. W-w-why would the hook target her? From what I understand, the attacker was targeting someone else. Britt stepped in and saved one life, only to lose her own. Yeah, but she was a doctor. She was destined to save so many more lives. Her poor mother.

[ Sighs deeply ] Does dr. Obrecht know? Britt died in her mother’s arms. At least she wasn’t alone. This is just so unbelievable. I mean… you know, as smart and as beautiful as britt was, she… life never seemed to give her a break. That sounds like someone else I know. Thank you both for — for meeting me here. Um… I had — I talked to the funeral home and they need something for britt to wear.

[ Sighs ] And aunt liesl, she’s not up to it, of course. And honestly, I’m not sure I am, either. Did anyone talk to the police? Are they okay with us going to her room? Y-yeah. I talked to mac and he said it was fine because britt was not the intended target. She… she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Wrong for her, but she did manage to save someone else’s life. Britt would have loved to hear people talk about her as a hero.

[ Chuckles ] Yeah.

[ Chuckles ] And I could just s-see her lapping it up. Making all the haters eat every nasty word they ever said to her.

[ Exhales deeply ]

[ Voice breaking ] Why isn’t she here? My whole life I was always a loner. I didn’t make many friends, and then to meet your bff in your 30s… how can I live in a world without her?

[ Sobbing ] Hey. Remember the last time we saw her? How hard she pushed for us to become friends? Let’s honor her in that way. And — and let’s spare liesl from having to pick out her last outfit. You’re right. Let’s do this. For britt. Packing up britt’s office is not something that needs to happen right now. Well, on the contrary, it can’t wait. Do you want me to call scott? No, he’s busy taking care of the arrangements, dealing with the press, attending to all the details. The least I can do is collect britta’s things and keep them safe. Even if I couldn’t keep my own daughter safe. Someone had to look out for our daughter. Protect her from all those people out there trying to destroy her. And no offense, lover, but you’re not exactly the man you used to be. Stuck in the chair like that. And you still can’t seem to hook the right fish. I never said I was perfect! And…when you bat .300 in baseball, even if they’re not all home runs, you still get into the hall of fame. That’s me. Besides, I’m gonna make it right this time. How about you make it right, now? She had just thrown herself this huge birthday party. Yeah. Yeah. But why have us plan it and insist that we become friends? When we’re so obviously not. Yeah, but the point is, britt wanted us to be. It was really important to her. It’s almost like she knew we would need each other. Wait. Her will. She said she’d just written one and was leaving everything to me. I mean, who — who does that at her age? And then plans a vacation out of nowhere? Not to mention her giving cody the heave-ho. It’s like she was burning all of her bridges. Yeah, but why? And why couldn’t she share that with me? We were friends. Best friends, but… I guess I never really knew britt at all. Okay. All right. Um, that I learned too late, that all I really wanted was her. For some time, britt knew that she had a ticking bomb inside her. What does that mean? Well, it means that she inherited something from her father. Britt had huntington’s disease. Oh, my god. When I was working at G.H., I saw people with huntington’S. It took a terrible toll on their lives. Well, why didn’t britt tell us? Why — why’d she face this alone? No. Well, she wasn’t alone. She wasn’T. She had her mom, and scott knew. Yeah, but why wouldn’t she tell me o-or brad? Well, she didn’t actually tell me. It was aunt liesl. And aunt liesl told me when she — she was just overwhelmed with everything that britt was facing. She had to talk to someone. Wait a minute. Austin knew, too, didn’t he? The birthday gift he gave her? The photos of her life? That’s why he did it. Yeah. Seeing all the people that she loves gave her courage.

[ Sniffles ] At my worst moment when the baby switch came out, britt didn’t walk away from me, and I never would have walked away from her.

[ Voice breaking ] I didn’t need her to be brave. I just need her in my life. I still do.

[ Exhales sharply ] We all do. Liesl, I’m really sorry that you have to hear this from me. I-I-I begged britt to open up to you, but she just [Sighs] She couldn’t, I guess. I don’t know. I mean, the only reason that I know that she was leaving town for good was I happened to catch her in a particularly vulnerable moment. You don’t understand. I’ve never been prouder of mein britta.

[ Exhales sharply ] You see, my relationship with britta was… complicated, to say the least. There were times she hated me and times that I felt she betrayed me. But somehow, despite all that, we — we found our way back together, not just as mother and daughter, but as good friends.

[ Laughs ] It’s just like her to spare the rest of us and sail off into the sunset alone. But you said she came back for us? Why? What changed her mind? You’re sure you don’t remember my twin brother? He’s kind of hard to forget. Is he as kind as you are, doctor?

[ Chuckles ] Well, I guess you could say he’s being kind at the moment because he has no other choice. You actually used to take care of him. I did. Was I a nurse? Mm. No. You, uh — you had an internship. Elizabeth: The patient is in with dr. Collins. Not for long. Martin? I’m in the middle of counseling a patient. Yeah, well, that’s the problem. [ Sniffles ] I’m not letting you choose some boring dress at wyndham’S. Well, if you think I’m letting you dress her in some fast fashion trash, you’ve got another thing coming.

[ Sighs ] Come on, maxie. She needs something with style and — and impact. Maxie: Style? Yes! I would like to spend some more time observing esme and consult with the neurologist that dr. Ashford brought in. But my initial assessment… is that esme has suffered significant memory loss. Permanent? No way to tell. But if so, we may never know where she’s been or who’s been taking care of her. Well, at seven months pregnant, esme was in no condition to be able to take out an officer or kill britt westbourne on the pier last night. So the more pressing question is, who really is the hook killer? I don’t believe that britt’s murderer will go unpunished. I don’t know if you know this, but the police have a suspect, here in G.H. Under guard 24/7. All I remember is waking up in here. I-I haven’t killed anyone. I couldn’t! You do believe me, don’t you? It’s okay. The best thing you can do for yourself is just rest. Nurse baldwin. Yes? You do believe me, right? Nikolas, my priority is finding lucy. I haven’t got time for this. Hey, you may have been assigned the case pro bono, but I will double your normal fee. The mother of my child, she must be kept safe, not hounded by the police until she gives birth. And then what? Triple your normal fee.

[ Chuckles ] Well, because you know him, you know. Y-you probably know him better than anyone else now. And I just was hoping maybe you could shed some light on why he seems so afraid. What does victor have on my son? Dante: Ms. Prince. Ms. Prince. Hi. I’m detective falconeri. We’ve met before. Can you tell me what happened to you?

[ Monitor beeping ] What happened? Well, you’re being treated for hypothermia. Hypothermia? Why? I was hoping you could tell me. That, and also, uh, where you’ve been hiding out the last six months? [ Grunting ]

[ Screaming ] I wish I could tell you. But as we both know, nikolas does not tell me everything. I’m sorry he hurt you, ava. I mean, what he did — it was unforgivable. But I also remember a time when the two of you shared everything. Yeah, I thought so, too. But now I’m — I’m questioning everything. Even the happy moments. Well, I know for a fact that he regrets his choices. And, well, if I’m being perfectly honest, I have a few regrets, too. Keep your voice down. You think you can keep this a secret? Esme will wake up, and when she does, she is going to blow you out of the water. I don’t know how pregnant she is, but I definitely know that it’s not mine, which leaves you. Does that mean esme is awake? I’ve paged the doctor. He should be in soon. Water. You haven’t been cleared for that yet, I’m sorry. Let’s stop stalling. I’m not stalling. I’m freezing. Dr. Ashford, how’s esme? That’s what I’m about to find out. This is unacceptable. What is the point of being on a board if no one will tell you anything? Come with me. Wow. Yeah, maybe you’re right, but, I don’t know, looking back on it, I, um, I repeatedly encouraged you to work things out with nikolas, and [Sighs] I shouldn’t have done that. W-why not? You couldn’t have known where we’d end up. No, no. Nikolas, and nikolas alone, is at fault for the demise of our marriage. So I don’t want to hear about regrets, okay? Not — not yours, anyway. I don’t usually think of myself as naive, but I guess I had hoped that his relationship with you would make him a better man. I thought so, too. And for a while there, I — I thought it did. I guess we’re both naive, then, huh? Dex: Would you slow down?

[ Sighs ] I can’T. I need to talk to cameron. It’s the middle of the night. I can’t let him go into the new year thinking we’re something we’re not. It’s not fair. Do you regret it? This? [ Weakly ] I was coming back for you. The swelling. Are you in pain? I wanted more time with all of you. You’ll have more time. You’re just having some sort of immune response. I didn’t want to die alone, so I came back. And now I’m close. You’re not making any sense.

[ Smooches ]

[ Scoffs ] 10 minutes out?

[ Sighs ]

[ Shivers ] 10 minutes until I say goodbye to port charles. Maxie: Well, that’s it. Mostly everyone went to go see the fireworks at pier 47. That was a good party, if I do say so myself. No broken glass, broken furniture — maybe a broken nail or two. Since britt waited a lifetime to have a birthday party, at least she had a good one. Yes, maxie. It was a wonderful party. I’m sure britta cherished every moment. Yeah, she seemed to. That’s why I’m kinda surprised she cut out early.

[ Scoffs ] I knew I was late, but I didn’t think I was that late. Now, I’m not complaining, but why are we back out here again? Weren’t you cold before? The more pda, the better, right? Again, I am not complaining.

[ Buoy bell ringing, waves crashing ] We were convincing with our act, weren’t we? Mm-hmm. Do you think people suspect we’re more than friends? Well, maxie certainly does. Did you see how she looked at us?

[ Chuckles ] And I saw a few double takes when we went inside. Me too. And the G.H. Crew was here. And my mom says they love to gossip, so I’m sure somebody will be spilling the tea about trina robinson getting close with the infamous, recently jailed spencer cassadine.

[ Laughs ] Along with that photo that ran in the invader of the two of us with my grandmother. Right. Yeah. The post you made of us from the party. And before you know it, people will think we’re a couple. Well, our interest is in a party of one — esme. This is why esme kept begging for a tree. She didn’t care about christmas. She just wanted a diversion so she could get away. Get away? Yeah. Esme set a fire. When I ran to put it out, she took off. Nikolas, where is she now? I have no idea. Mmm. Still too warm? No, it’s hot. Oh. Hence the name hot cocoa and not warm cocoa. Well, why couldn’t we have just gone back to our place and had warm cocoa in our kitchen?

[ Breathes sharply ] Uh, I could say that we were out of whipped cream or the cocoa packets we have is full of chemicals and really old. Or that, here at kelly’s, the new year’s double chocolate peppermint cocoa is the best. Hm. Um, or I just could be honest and tell you that I didn’t want to ring in the new year doing…dishes. Okay, just so you know, I didn’t want you ringing in the new year doing dishes, either. But I did want a — an excuse to get us back to the house so we could ring in the new year doing…other things. Why didn’t you say so… to begin with? Well, because, I don’t know. Just didn’t wanna — oh, what’s up, man? You got the night off? Happy new year. Same to you guys. How’s the — how’s the job — working for my father?

[ Grunts ]

[ Groans ]

[ Sighs ] Look, dex, I saw your wrists. They healed up? I’m good. Good. So, I know how you got those bruises. And michael was very specific when he told me what happened. Now, when I questioned you about it, you said that sonny wasn’t responsible. I just — do you want to change your story? ‘Cause there is time to do that if you want to. Sorry. Can’t help you. Guess I’ll skip the hot chocolate. Dante. Are you trying to build a case against your father? Oh, no! Man! I missed it.

[ Sighs ] That’s what happens when you show up later than late. I’m sorry. I thought I could kinda sneak in at the end of britt’s party. Looks like a good time was had by all. That it was. You and carly really missed out. Sorry, wh– what was that about carly? Like you, carly also arrived too late for the festivities. I’m surprised you didn’t run into her on the deck with the pier. Oh, yeah, no, I… can’t really speak for carly, but I was working. I was on a call with a couple of reporters trying to track down an important lead. Well, shame on you for working on new year’s eve.

[ Chuckles ] I know. I know. I really did, uh, intend to be here to celebrate britt. I wanted to — I wanted to tell her how much I admire her. She made a crucial difference when we were trying to escape cassadine island.

[ Breathes deeply ] She still here by any chance? She left. She left. Well, I’m sorry I missed her. But you gotta be so proud, liesl. You raised a brave and gallant lady.

[ Fireworks exploding ] Oh! I love fireworks.

[ Chuckles ] But not if they delay my boat.

[ Fireworks exploding ] Liesl: When you falter, I will be there to see that you soar again. That is my promise to you. You will not go through this alone. I will be by your side through everything.

[ Chuckles ] I mean, how could she not? That party was fun. It was right up britt’s alley. It was outrageous. It was over the top. No apologies.

[ Chuckles ] I can see why you guys like each other. Yeah. When my father and britt were engaged, I was thrilled.

[ Fireworks exploding ] Britt seemed to me like the perfect stepmother. She wasn’t motherly by any stretch of the imagination, more like the world’s coolest friend. But she never talked down to me. She got me. She still does.

[ Buoy bell ringing, waves crashing ] Mm. In a way, I guess I’m glad that my father and britt never made it to the altar.

[ Fireworks exploding ] It would have hurt too much when…they inevitably broke up. You never expect anything good to last, do you? How can you have no idea where esme is? Because esme made her way to the turret and she jumped! She jumped? Yeah! She went into the water! And she did this to herself? She just dove off the turret? Elizabeth, I did not push esme. She spread her arms, and she pitched herself backward. She went into the water. I went down to the shore, and I searched. There’s no sign of her. I don’t know if esme drowned. Or — or she may be hiding on the island. Or — or maybe she made her way to the mainland. I don’t see how that’s possible. Well, she’s done it before and survived. Well, she wasn’t in her third trimester, and it wasn’t january. The harbor is freezing. I don’t see how she could possibly survive this.

[ Grunting ]

[ Gasping, panting ] Help! Help! Help!

[ Grunting continues ] Help!

[ Both shouting ] Oh. Oh. Oh!

[ Grunting ]

Hey. Hey. I got your text. Why are we here?

[ Whispers ] And what if someone sees us? No, no, no, we’re safe. Nobody’s around. I couldn’t ring in the new year without seeing you.

[ Breathes sharply ] Seeing you is the perfect way to celebrate. Seeing? Come on, we can do better than that. You know, josslyn wasn’t completely wrong about my father. I know, but joss has her reasons to be angry with sonny. They shouldn’t be your reasons. Right. And they’re not. They’re not. But I-I am struggling with knowing what he did to dex. It’s — it’s put a spotlight on the conflict I have around my father. That’s a fine line. I mean, you’ve been walking it for years. Why would you change your mind now? I-I look at chase, and I see how badly he wants his job back. And I remember being like that. You know? I feel for him. I wanted to be a cop long before I found out sonny was my father. I-I believed in the job. You know, I wanted to help people. I wanted to protect people. And, yeah, sure, there’s all sorts of crimes and criminals and mitigating circumstances and intolerance and injustice. But I — I feel like I’ve — I’ve found a way to use my discretion when I can, as long as it’s within the bounds of the law. I know you do. And that’s one of the reasons why I admire and respect you — because you are solid, dante. You define what it means to be a good cop. You’re strong. You’re fair. You’re compassionate. You’re not a bully with a badge. You just want justice. That’s what I’m wrestling with right now. Like, what does — what does justice look like when it’s applied to my father? It was very kind of drew to stop by. [ Chuckles ] I appreciated the things he said about my britta. He’s a good man and a brave one. He and britta stood up to peter on cassadine island. They saved my life. I try not to think about peter and the time I spent with him. Or all the harm he caused. But he did give me bailey lou. She is a joy and a miracle. And I can’t regret that. I understand. I curse the day I laid eyes on cesar faison. But I can’t regret the children I had with him. Nathan and britta were my saving grace. Thank you for giving my daughter this party. Britt threw herself the party. Brad and I — we just helped. I never realized she longed for a birthday party as a child. I wish I’d made better choices as a mother, found a way to keep nathan with me, given britta the love and support she deserved. I squandered so much time. And now nathan’s gone and britta’S… what about britt?

[ Shouting ]

[ Weakly ] Britt, you saved my life.

[ Gasping ] I couldn’t have gotten away if you hadn’t showed up. She would have killed me. Thank you. You’re welcome. But let’s face it — we’d both be toast if it wasn’t for this guy.

[ Breathing sharply ] Okay, I yelled at you, but I am so grateful. I just wish you would have done the world a favor and put an end to that psycho. It wasn’t a clear shot. I didn’t want to risk hitting you. Well, thanks for that.

[ Sighs ] Guess we should call the cops. Wait. Not so fast. S-sonny’s a-a-a criminal by profession. Yet he walks around with this air of respectability, importing coffee and funding hospital wings, and we all walk around like we don’t know who he really is, which is a mob boss. And it’s not like he’s some desperate criminal who’s gotta rob a store to survive. He chose this life. Yeah, sure, maybe — maybe circumstances kind of threw him into the criminal world in the first place, but — but he’s older, he’s wiser, he could have cut out and — and gone legit years ago, and he chose not to. Okay, it’s not only about greed, power, and ambition. Sonny can’t just resign from organized crime, dante. You know that. And, also, sonny fills some sort of a void. I think he’s a better alternative than anyone who might take his place.

[ Sighs ] And many have tried. And I would go after them and I would take them down just like I was eager to take down sonny when I first got to town. I understand where michael’s coming from right now — I really do, but over the years, you know, getting to know sonny, my father, I’ve come to love him and the — I can’t even fathom the thought — it keeps me up at night — of having to build a case against him one day. But isn’t that injustice? Isn’t that the definition of it — applying the law to some and not others? Isn’t that a betrayal to my oath, to my badge, to everything I supposedly stand for? Britta and I are in a much better place now. But for ye ars, I was –I was harsh and critical. I didn’t make her feel valued for the amazing person she is. We only ge t one childhood,and britta’s could have been…

…should have been better than it was. That’s my great shame. But that’s also in the past. I see the love you two share now. That’s what important, liesl.

[ Breathes deeply ] I’m so glad nathan married you. And I’m thankful my grandson has you as his mother. You’re everything to your children that I wasn’t to mine — warm, supportive, loving. You value them for who they are, not what they can achieve. Maybe it’s because it took me a while to get myself together. Of course I want to give my kids the world… but I want them to figure out how they define success. I want them to feel fulfilled and have purpose in their life. They have to figure out how to do that. All I can do is support them through their successes and failures and love them as they find their own path in life. Nathan would be so proud to hear you say that. I can see why he loved you so much.

[ Buoy bell ringing, waves crashing ] Do you remember where you were a year ago tonight? On the bridge with you. Yeah, I remember.

[ Chuckles ] I don’t think I could ever forget. That’s when — that’s when everything started to turn for me. How so? Well, you know, coming back was harder for me than I thought. Everywhere I looked was just a reminder of what I’d lost, what I couldn’t get back. But then…

[Inhales deeply] I wound up on the bridge, and there you were. Mm. Feeling pretty miserable, if I recall. Mm. For good reason. But talking to you that night — it was just so easy. And it was…so real. And I could… relax, be myself. And when I was looking into those gorgeous blue eyes, I saw that a future was possible. A positive future with hope and with some laughter, and that’s when I stopped being angry and I started looking forward. And then now, a year later, I’m still looking ahead. I still see such a positive future… …in those same beautiful eyes. Elizabeth: This is all our fault. We pushed esme to the brink. I wasn’t gonna kill her. She didn’t know that! I have no idea what you said to her, but obviously she was so desperate to escape, she was willing to risk her own life and the life of her child. Oh, my god, I have no idea all the names of the crimes I’ve committed. There’s kidnapping and false imprisonment and aiding and abetting and assaulting. Elizabeth! Elizabeth, stop. Hey. The crimes don’t matter because no one is ever going to know. I know that I have lived a life of privilege. I have had every material thing just for the asking. So I’m not expecting you to feel sorry for me. Don’t worry. I don’T.

[ Buoy bell ringing, waves crashing ] I’m not making excuses, trina. But my mother died the day I was born, and my father has been inconsistent. People have come and gone from my life, people who I’ve cared about and who I wanted to count on. And the only person who has stayed has been my grandmother, and she has been nothing short of wonderful. But aside from her, nothing good has ever really lasted. Just because it’s been that way up to this point doesn’t mean it’s gonna be that way forever. You could still find something good to hold on to.

[ Breathes sharply ] Well, when you say it… I almost believe it.

[ Door opens ]

[ Woman shivering ]

[ Shivering ]

[ Groans ] Um… she’s freezing, but she has a pulse. Um… yeah, she’s breathing. She’s pregnant! Her lips are blue. I think that she has hypothermia. We need to get her to a hospital. Okay.

[ Grunts ]

[ Groans ] I still love nathan. I do n’t bring him up oftenbecause it hurts so much. But I think about him all the time. Nathan was such a calm presence. [ Sighs ] No, I guess not. Look… there is nothing we can tell the cops that will help them catch the hook. But they will confiscate the gun for which I have no license. And it can’t be traced as far as I know, which is also suspicious. What is that? The shell casing. I’m pretty sure from the trajectory that the bullet either went into the hook or into the water. So, either way, there’s no evidence a gun was ever fired. Nothing that can be tracked back to sonny. Right. You got to protect the boss at all costs.
