Kate: Hey, are those for the hortons?

Roman: They are–couple quarts of chowder and two sandwiches.

Kate: I feel so badly for them, and for chad and thomas and charlotte. There’s just been so much suffering this year.

Roman: You are right about that, which means that we really need some happy news.

Paulina: Did I hear someone say in they’re in the market for some happy news?

Kate: [Laughs] Well, you’re pretty chipper for someone who just got bailed out.

Paulina: Well, why shouldn’t I be? Today is juneteenth, and i can’t think of a better way to celebrate freedom than by marrying the man I love.

Kate: [Laughs] Well, I guess that depends on how you feel about marriage.

Roman: Wait a minute. You and abe are getting married for real?

Paulina: For real, for real this time. We are finally jumping that broom today, and we want you both to be there.

Abe: Mm, all right, check on the cake, get my clothes from the cleaners…

[Laughs] Oh, yes. They got the rings.

Allie: Well, this is perfect timing. I just finished one juneteenth wedding cake– rush order.

Abe: Aw, you are a angel, a angel, allie. Oh, thank you so much. Thank you for doing this on such short notice.

Allie: No problem. It’s not like I was up until 4 A.M. Finishing it. Okay, I was up until 4 A.M. Finishing it.

Abe: Aw, well–[Chuckles] Oh, and chanel helped, I hope.

Allie: Actually, no, but only because she was so busy helping her mom with last-minute wedding prep.

Abe: Yeah, of course, of course. Well, I can’t thank you enough, allie.

Allie: Yeah, of course. It was my pleasure, and I really loved researching all the juneteenth traditions. Um, it’s red velvet with butter cream frosting, just like the kind chanel’s big mama used to make when she was little.

Abe: Yes. I mean, you probably learned from all your research that red foods traditionally have special meaning for descendants of african slaves.

Allie: Yes, I did learn that.

[Both laugh]

Abe: So what is in the box?

Allie: Um, tea cakes. Um, another juneteenth staple, right?

Abe: Yes. My mother used to make tea cakes for me and my siblings, and they were–they were a delight.

Allie: Well, I’m just hoping that paulina and all of your guests like them.

Abe: Well, come and find out for yourself.

Allie: Oh, no, we’re having cake movers deliver everything to the wedding.

Abe: No, I mean as a guest. We would love to have you there.

Allie: Oh, I thought it was family-only.

Abe: And you are family, allie, and I know chanel would love to have you there.

Allie: Well, in that case, I’m in.

[Both laugh]

Abe: Good, all right.

[Both laugh]

Johnny: Well, I’m glad you and aunt belle are keeping the kids busy. How’s uh–how’s uncle chad holding up? Yeah. Well, let me know if there’s anything I can do to help.

[Chuckles] No, I haven’t heard from chanel.

[Door clicks open] Dad, I told you–

[Door clicks shut] Chanel asked me to– um, dad, let me call you back. Something just came up.

[Cell phone beeps] Hi.

Chanel: Hi.

[Dramatic music]

Julie: Ms. Price, I heard so many wonderful things about you.

Olivia: Thank you. Please, call me olivia, or better yet, call me big mama. After all, we’re family.

Julie: [Sighs] Yes, we are family, and our family’s expanding this very day.

Olivia: Yes!

Julie: With the wedding of your daughter–the long-awaited and anticipated wedding to abraham.

Eli: I cannot believe it is finally happening.

Julie: Thank god it is. That’s what we all need– something hopeful to look forward to.

Lani: Damn.

[Sighs] Okay.

[Exhales deeply] Get it together, girl. Get it together.

[Exhales deeply]

[Knocking] Coming.

Tr: Hello, lani.

Tr: You didn’t think you could get rid of me that easily?

[Exhales deeply] Okay, girl. You gotta get it together.

[Knocking] Go away!

Theo: Are–are you okay?

Lani: Okay. Theo?

Theo: Um, what’s goin’ on?

[Sighing]

Olivia: Eli told me about your family’s loss. I’m so very sorry, julie.

Julie: Abigail was a wonderful woman, and…

[Sighs] She was taken far too soon.

Olivia: I’m praying for all of you.

Julie: Thank you. One thing her death has taught me is that no future is guaranteed. You just have to reach out and grab all the happiness that comes your way right now, in the present.

Paulina: Oh, we don’t want anything fancy, just some picnic food–hamburgers, hot dogs, all the fixin’S.

Roman: We can handle that.

Kate: Are you sure?

Roman: Yeah, kate, I can cater a picnic.

Kate: Yeah, oh that’s– I mean you. Are you sure about that? Do you really wanna have hot dogs at your wedding?

Paulina: Well, normally, I would not, of course. But, you know, since, you know, most of salem will already be cooking out for the town’s first annual juneteenth extravaganza, I decided, “go with the flow.”

Roman: Okay. Well then, not only am I honored to provide the food, but kate and I will be thrilled to attend.

Paulina: Oh, that will make abe so very happy.

Roman: Well, you two have been through so much to get here, you deserve a celebration.

Paulina: Amen to that. Speaking of which, you know, I still haven’t found someone to perform the ceremony.

Roman: What about marlena?

Paulina: [Grunts] Yeah, I gave that some thought, but after what happened the last time she officiated, I don’t wanna take any chances.

Roman: Understandable.

Kate: Well, who are you gonna get to marry you at such a late date?

Paulina: Mm, you know…

Eric: What?

[Upbeat music]

Chanel: Doughnuts made fresh this morning.

Johnny: Thanks so much.

Chanel: Johnny, I am so sorry about abigail. I can’t even imagine what your family must be going through.

Johnny: [Sighs] Yeah. Yeah, it’s been really tough, especially on chad and the kids. She was a great person.

Chanel: Yeah.

Johnny: Well, hey, I heard your mom made bail. That’s excellent news.

Chanel: Thanks, and believe it or not, she’s getting married to abe today.

[Both chuckle]

Johnny: Really? Wow, that’s amazing. Tell her I say congrats. Not that she wants to hear that from me.

Chanel: Nah, she’s okay with you these days. Ah, but anyway, I should get going. I still have a ton to do if we’re gonna pull this thing off. So…

Johnny: Oh, what’s, uh– what else is on your list?

Chanel: Oh, what isn’t on my list? I have decorations, music, and mama wants the whole wedding recorded, so I have to find a videographer before I go over to help her get dressed.

Johnny: Uh, hello?

Chanel: Hello.

Johnny: No, no, I mean, what–what about me?

Chanel: You wanna help mama get dressed? Oh! [Laughs] You mean you could video the wedding?

Johnny: Yeah, I mean, “possessed: The marlena evans story” might not be making it to a streaming service near you, but I think I could probably manage to shoot a wedding. That is, if you’re okay with me being there.

Nicole: Aw, abe, I am so happy for you–for both of you.

Abe: Aw, thank you so much. Me too. So what about you?

Nicole: What about me?

Abe: I heard that you and rafe have postponed your wedding.

Nicole: We did.

Abe: Because?

Nicole: Because rafe is swamped with this investigation into abigail’s murder.

Abe: I understand. I did speak to jack and jennifer, by the way. We were wondering if– if this would be a good time to have the wedding. But they gave us their blessing, and they thought it would be– it would be a tribute to abigail’s memory.

Nicole: Yes–would be a lovely way to celebrate. I couldn’t agree more.

Abe: Good. Then that means you will join us in the celebration.

[Both laugh]

Nicole: I wouldn’t miss it.

Abe: Ooh, good, good.

Nicole: Yes.

[Both laugh]

Paulina: Who’s this handsome devil?

Roman: Oh, this is my son, eric. Eric, paulina price.

Eric: Oh, it’s nice to meet you, ms. Price.

Paulina: Oh, wait, wait. Eric? As in father eric brady, the priest?

Kate: Well…

Paulina: Oh, this is perfect! Talk about a sign from the good lord above.

Eric: Am I missing something here, dad?

Eric: [Laughs]

Julie: I have to tell you, ms. Price. Your daughter paulina has been an inspiration to me– well, that she’s going forward with this wedding after everything she was put through with lani by that awful tr coates.

Eli: Grandma, please, let’s– let’s not talk about him today, all right? Today is a good day. It’s a good day.

Julie: Agreed, agreed. And I hope paulina doesn’t lose a second of sleep over that monster.

Olivia: I just wish I had done something sooner to get her out of that situation.

Julie: I’m sure you did the best you could.

Olivia: I just wish paulina would’ve let the police handle ray. Then my baby wouldn’t be facing a prison sentence for murder.

[Dramatic music]

Lani: I can’t believe you got here so quickly.

Theo: Um, gabi sent the dimera jet to johannesburg for me and jj.

Lani: Oh, that was–that was good of her.

Theo: So are we gonna talk about what just happened?

Lani: What do you mean?

Theo: You seemed really freaked out when I knocked on the door. Who’d you think it was?

Tr: Go ahead, lani.

Chanel: Oh, I don’t know if it’s such a good idea for you to film the wedding.

Johnny: Why?

Chanel: You know why, johnny.

Johnny: Look, chanel, I promise this is not about me trying to get you back, okay? I just–I wanna help you and your mom out. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry. I won’t even charge you.

Chanel: This video better be ava duvernay level good.

Johnny: You won’t be sorry.

Eli: Big mama, what were you telling us on the way over here about how you and your family used to celebrate juneteenth back in texas?

Julie: Oh, I’d like to know more about that. I’m afraid that’s a holiday that I’m not as familiar with as I would like to be. Uh, for starters, why is it called “juneteenth?”

Olivia: Well, honey, in june 19, 1865, a union general gave the order to free the slaves in texas.

Eli: Yeah, almost two and a half years after abraham lincoln had issued the emancipation proclamation.

Olivia: Texas slaves were in bondage that whole time, and that’s why for us, juneteenth is as important as the fourth of july.

Eli: It started in texas, but eventually, the descendants of slaves started celebrating everywhere.

Olivia: And my mama made sure to carry on the tradition when we left texas for miami.

Julie: What are some of the traditions?

Olivia: Well, there’s rodeos, cookouts, church services, and honey, let me tell you, the food…

Julie: Sounds like I’ve been missing out.

Olivia: Oh, you have.

Eli: Yes, it’s a good time, grandma.

Olivia: It is. But we’re always mindful of what our ancestors endured and how much more we have to overcome.

Paulina: So they defrocked you for saving your mom and your niece’s mortal souls?

Eric: Mm, pretty much.

Paulina: Oh, under the heading of “no good deed going unpunished.” Oh, I guess I’ll just have to find someone else.

Kate: Hey, eric, you performed this ceremony for rex and sarah, didn’t you? And you weren’t a priest then, right?

Eric: I–I did.

Roman: Well, that means you’re still licensed.

Eric: Well, in the eyes of the state.

Paulina: Oh, well, that’s good enough for me! So can you do it? Can you do it? Can you–can you marry abe and me today?

Eric: Today? Uh, yeah, you know, abe’s like an uncle to me. I’d be honored to.

Paulina: Oh, well! [Laughs] Ooh. Priest or not, you’re a lifesaver.

Eric: My pleasure.

Paulina: [Laughs] And not bad on the eyes either.

Roman: Easy, easy.

Kate: Hey, hey, hey, don’t you think you have a wedding to get ready for?

Paulina: Oh! Oh, yeah, oh, yeah, oh, yeah. Right, right, right, okay. I’ll see you guys later at the park, okay?

[Laughs]

Lani: Um, when you were– you were at the door, I–I thought you were my downstairs neighbor who is always complaining about the twins making too much noise.

Tr: I don’t think he believes you.

Theo: How’s paulina holding up?

Lani: I mean, she’s– she’s getting married today.

Theo: But she’s still facing murder charges.

Lani: Paulina–she did what she did to protect me and dad, and she is confident that justin is gonna get her off.

Tr: But you aren’t, are you? Because you know the truth. Why not tell your fake brother?

Lani: Listen, do you mind hanging here and watching the twins until the babysitter comes? I need to head over to paulina’s and help her get ready.

Theo: Of course. I’ll see you at the park?

Lani: Thank you. I–I…

Paulina: So, ladies, how am I looking?

Chanel: Well, I think that your personal glam squad did a mighty fine job.

Paulina: Mm-hmm, and I am so grateful.

[Laughs] Oh, lani, chanel, my sweet angels, you can’t know what it means to me to have you both here with me.

Chanel: Uh, listen, mama, I know I gave you a lot of grief last time about lani being your matron of honor. But I want you to know that this time, I’m totally cool with it.

Paulina: Oh, well I’m glad to hear that, chanel. But I’ve decided that a wedding this fabulous needs to have both a matron and a maid of honor.

Chanel: Really?

Paulina: Oh, yes!

[Laughs] I want you both to stand up for me when abraham and I are joined in holy matrimony.

Lani: Are you sure?

Paulina: Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, if you’re willing to share.

Chanel: Well, of course I am. I love it. Lani?

Lani: [Chuckles] Sounds great.

[Laughter]

Paulina: Well, yay. Well, group hug.

[Laughter] Aw… mm…mm.

Eli: Well, I’ll be damned. Kid’s in town for a few hours, and he’s already raiding the fridge.

Theo: Busted.

[Both laugh]

Eli: It’s good to see you, man. Here, bring it in.

Theo: Hey, you too.

[Both sigh]

Eli: How you been?

Theo: Uh, well, my dad’s getting married, so no complaints. Oh, um, the babysitter just got here. She’s giving the kids a bath.

Eli: Oh, good. Where’s lani?

Theo: She went over to paulina’s to help her get ready.

Eli: Oh, yeah, that’s right.

Theo: Hey, is she okay?

Eli: What do you mean?

Theo: Well, when I first got here, she was acting really weird.

Eli: Weird, how?

Theo: Like, scared? She said that she’s been hassled by some nosy neighbors, but I don’t know. It felt bigger than that.

Eli: Well, yeah, you know how your sister is. She’s always got the weight of the world on her shoulders. I’m sure she’ll be back to herself soon.

Theo: I hope so.

Eli: Look, I’m gonna go say bye to the twins, and then we’ll be off to get your pops married.

[Dramatic music]

Chanel: And just a little gloss to finish off your makeup.

Paulina: [Laughs] Well, thank you, darling. Do me a favor, would you? Grab me a sparkling water.

Chanel: Uh, be right back.

Paulina: Mm-hmm.

Well, how are you feelin’, baby? Be honest with me.

Lani: Honestly, I’m–I’m having a really hard time being cheery when I know that you’re taking the heat for a crime that I committed. You and dad should be planning your future together instead–

Paulina: Lani, lani, listen to me. This is my wedding day, and the only thing I want for my daughter and matron of honor is for her to keep her mouth shut.

Abe: Well–oh, eric.

Eric: Hey, there he is.

Abe: Thank you for doing this.

Eric: Of course. Yeah, you kidding me? It’s an honor.

Kate: Oh, my gosh. Well, anyway, I’m going to check out and see how roman’s doing with the grill.

Abe: Ah, all right, all right. Um, well, have you met paulina yet?

Eric: She’s a force of nature, that one.

[Both laugh]

Abe: She is. Well, I am going to take my pre-wedding tea cakes, and I will see you at the altar.

Eric: All right, I’ll see you then.

Abe: Thanks a lot.

Johnny: Eric, I didn’t know you were invited.

Eric: Actually, I’m officiating today’s proceedings.

Johnny: Oh, well, then I will be sure to frame you well.

Eric: Frame?

Johnny: I’m also here to do a job.

[Both giggling]

Nicole: [Clears throat]

All: What are you doing here? We hit the bike trails every weekend

Johnny: Chanel needed a videographer, so I offered my services.

Allie: How convenient.

Johnny: I’m just trying to do a nice thing here. What about you? What, she invite you?

Allie: I baked the wedding cake.

Johnny: You just thought you’d put on that fancy dress and come drop it off?

Allie: Actually, abe invited me as a guest.

Johnny: Ah, now that is convenient.

Allie: Excuse me, abe is like family to me.

Johnny: And I suppose you’ll be sitting next to chanel?

Allie: Make sure you get a lot of close-ups.

Johnny: Mm.

Nicole: Um, I didn’t expect to see you here.

Eric: I was a–I was a last-minute addition. Paulina wasn’t too keen on my mother performing the ceremonies.

Nicole: Oh, well, that was nice of you.

Eric: Is this gonna be too hard?

Nicole: Why would it be too hard?

Eric: Well, I mean, with you and rafe, you know, canceling your wedding.

Nicole: We didn’t cancel it. We just postponed it. I told you that.

Eric: Oh, right, that’s what I meant.

Abe: Excuse me, the ladies have arrived, so we’ll be starting the ceremony very soon.

Nicole: Okay.

Eric: Okay, showtime. Um, I’ll see you after the ceremony?

Nicole: Sure.

Allie: Hi. You look amazing.

Allie: Is that a problem?

Chanel: No, no, of course not. Um, I know how close you guys are. Thanks for making the cake. It means a lot to my family.

Allie: Yeah. You know, it’s my pleasure.

Theo: Look at you.

Lani: You look so handsome.

Theo: Thank you.

Eli: Theo mentioned that you seemed a bit jumpy. You said something about a nosy neighbor?

Lani: Oh, baby, you don’t– you don’t need to worry about that right now.

Eli: Well, I am worried. I mean, I know how guilty you’ve been feeling, and now to be here at paulina’s wedding?

Lani: She made it very clear that she wants me to keep it a secret.

Eli: And you agreed?

Tr: [Echoes] I just love a good wedding. Don’t you?

Olivia: [Laughs]

Paulina: Oh, I’m glad you’re here, mama.

Olivia: I’m so happy for you. Now stop talking and go get married.

[Laughter]

Abe: How you take my breath away.

Paulina: Right back at you, mayor carver.

Eric: Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to celebrate the union of abraham carver and paulina price. It’s been brought to my attention that this day was not chosen randomly, for today is not just any day. Today is june 19, 2022. On this day, back in 1865, in galveston, texas, the last of the confederacy’s slaves were proclaimed free. On this meaningful day, abe and paulina tell me that they wanna share a message of faith and freedom and abiding love. I understand that you two wrote your own vows. Abe, would you like to start?

Abe: Yes, I’d love to. Paulina, from the moment you sashayed into my life, I knew nothing was ever going to be the same again, but our road was not an easy one, was it? There was always love, the sacrificial love of a mother for her daughter, the daughter’s love for a family that she had come to know, and there was– there was our love, paulina, a love that simply could not be denied… and we know that because a good friend gave me a swift kick in the behind when–when I almost let it slip away.

Julie: You’re welcome.

[Laughter]

Abe: Paulina price, by the time I met you, I had–I had thought that I had experienced the last great love of my life. But every day, every day you prove that love is not in my past. It’s in my present. And most importantly, it’s in my future. And so I hope to share that love to our children and our grandchildren as long as god blesses me to be by your side.

Eric: Beautifully said, abe. Paulina?

Paulina: What? You expect me to top that?

[Laughter] I mean, the man is a politician. So I won’t even try. I haven’t written some big speech or some fancy speech, but instead, I wanna speak from my heart.

Abe: Well, I would expect nothing less.

Paulina: And what I wanna say is that abraham carver, you were a problem for me.

Abe: A problem?

Paulina: Yes, you were. You were a complication that I didn’t need or didn’t even see coming. I came to salem to sneak some time with my–my niece and her babies. I was so desperate to keep my true relationship to lani a secret, and I would have. I would have if I hadn’t fallen in love with you. But fall, I did. And before I knew it, all my secrets were laid bare, and that’s what I want us to be–honest, raw, real, and in love. From this day on, and for all the days of our lives.

Eric: If there is anyone who has just cause that these two should not wed, speak now or forever hold your peace.

[Suspenseful music]

Olivia: Uh, preacher man, hurry ups, yeah? Before the devil decides to make a return appearance.

Eric: All right, you make a good point, ms. Price.

Olivia: Big mama, please.

Eric: Okay, big mama. All right, here we go. Do you, abraham carver, take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife, to love and cherish in sickness and health, till death do you part?

Abe: I do.

Eric: And do you, paulina price, do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband, to love and cherish in sickness and health, till death do you part?

Paulina: I do.

Eric: Can I have the rings, please? All right, give you a hand. This is yours. There you go. This would be yours. Mm-hmm, okay. Repeat after me: With this ring…

Eric: I thee wed.

[Dramatic music]

[Laughter]

Olivia: Well, you all had better watch out, because I have sharp elbows, and I just might be looking for a sexy senior here in salem. All: Ooh!

Paulina: Okay, you see where I get it from? You see?

[Laughter]

Olivia: Just throw the damn bouquet, okay?

[Laughter]

Paulina: Okay, okay.

Roman: All right.

Kate: Here you go.

Paulina: One, two, three!

[All scream]

All: Oh!

[Applause]

Johnny: So it looks like you’re the next one to get married. Now, all you need is a groom.

Allie: Or a bride.

Paulina: Mmm…mmm…

[Laughter]

Abe: We’ll put that one over here.

Tr: Yeah, let them eat cake now. It won’t be long till paulina’s eating stale bread in prison.

[Dramatic music]

Lani: She’s not going to prison.

Tr: [Laughs] All of y’all are kiddin’ yourselves. You know that, right? They don’t have a future. It’s a mirage, and you know that as well as I do–

Lani: I would like to make a toast to the bride and groom. Um, my father and mother.

Paulina: Oh, thank you, sweetheart.

Lani: I wanna say something about my father, abe carver, the best person I’ve ever known. You came into my life when I was already grown, but I have never received a greater gift. I love you so much, dad.

Abe: I love you so much, sweetheart.

Lani: And to paulina, my mother…

[Sighs] You made so many sacrifices for me, just– just to protect me, and I love you. I love you, mom.

Paulina: I love you too, baby.

Lani: But I–I can’t let you protect me anymore.

Lani: No, I’m sorry, I cannot. I can’t go on like this. You and dad–you deserve to have a future together. You deserve to have your lives together.

Sarah: She was obsessively jealous of her sister. She did all kinds of horrible things to ruin abigail’s life. Not to mention what she did to me, and isn’t she responsible for laura’s death?

Xander: Ah, that was an accident.

Sarah: Xander.

Xander: I’m not defending gwen, sarah. I’m not. But she’s in prison, locked up. I mean, she couldn’t possibly have anything to do with abigail’s death.

Sarah: [Sighs] I guess you’re right.

Ava: I’m usually pretty good at reading people. But I can’t decide whether you’re telling the truth or not.

Gwen: Why would I lie?

Ava: Why indeed. But I certainly don’t want this on my conscience.

Gwen: You once told me that guilt is a waste of time.

Gabi: It was worth it. I managed to close on the oakdale project. Is that what the press release was about?

Li: No, gabi, there’s something you should know.

Gabi: What is it?

[Cell phone chiming] Oh, never mind, I probably got it.

Li: Before you read that, I just need to tell you something.

Gabi: “Board of directors of dimera enterprises is sad to announce the death of abigail dimera”?

Gwen: Dad. I didn’t know you were in town.

[Soft music]

Jack: It was a last-minute trip. I have some bad news about abigail.

Gwen: Yeah, someone already told me. Is it true then? My sister was murdered?

Jack: I’m sorry. I meant to tell you myself. I guess the news is getting out there.

Gwen: Well, I didn’t get all the details. Do they know who’s responsible?

Chad: Kate, how much did you tell lucas? Did you tell him that abby knew he was sami’s kidnapper? Answer me!

Kate: Please, you really have to try to calm down.

Chad: Calm down? My wife is dead! Someone stabbed her to death in our bedroom, and you want me to calm down? If you told lucas that abigail knew his secret, he could be the one.

Jennifer: My sweet girl. She was so kind. So much to live for, especially her precious children. Who would wanna hurt her, lucas? And why?

Lucas: I don’t know, jenn. I just don’t know.

Jennifer: To attack her so, so brutally in her own home. What kind of monster would do that?

Lucas: I should’ve protected her. You were in boston; I was here. I should’ve kept a closer eye on her.

Jennifer: Lucas, no, no. You could not possibly know that some maniac was gonna break into her house and attack her. Oh, honey, lucas, don’t do this to yourself.

Lucas: Stop, I should be the one comforting you, not the other way around.

Jennifer: Oh, listen to me. You listen to me. You loved her.

Lucas: Yeah.

Jennifer: She knew that. You are not to blame for any of this.

Chad: Don’t you get it? If lucas thought that abigail was gonna expose his secret, then he might’ve–he might’ve wanted to kill her to shut her up, okay? He would’ve had motive.

Kate: I didn’t tell him. I didn’t tell him. He didn’t know that abigail knows the truth, chad.

Chad: You didn’t?

Kate: No, I didn’T. But it doesn’t matter. Even if he did know the truth, he would never ever hurt abigail, not in a million years.

Gabi: Is this some kind of sick joke?

Li: Gabi, I double-checked with the salem pd. Abigail’s dead.

Gabi: What–no, are they sure? Because a while back, we thought abigail died in a plane crash, and it turned out that andre was just faking her death. This is probably a trick too.

Li: It’s not. I’m sorry to say this, but abigail was murdered.

Jake: Oh, my. Abigail was murdered?

Steve: Yeah. And chad found her.

Jake: My god.

Steve: Yeah. Someone from your family will probably contact you and fill you in on the details, right?

Jake: Not likely. Abigail was really the only dimera I got along with. Police have any leads?

Steve: Not yet. Listen, I need to get inside. Jennifer’s waiting for me.

Kate: I wish that I could give you the answers that you need, but I can’T. I can’T. I just wish I could. I have no idea why anyone would do this to abigail, but I do know that my heart is broken for you and for your children.

Chad: I’m just grasp–I’m grasping at straws right now, so I’m not thinking straight. I’m so–I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to lash out at you.

Kate: Don’t apologize, okay? Don’t do that. I’m sorry–I’m sorry that I can’t be of more comfort to you.

Chad: Nobody–nobody can be. And nothing…

Kate: I know, I know. Maybe you should get some rest.

Chad: I can’t rest. I can’t rest. Every time I close my eyes, I just–I see her laying there. Covered in blood. I just keep remembering the last thing that she said to me.

Kate: She talked to you? Did she give you any clue of what happened?

Chad: She just said that they had a knife.

Kate: I see.

Chad: I keep racking my brain trying to think about who would do this to my wife. What kind of sick and sadistic person would do something like this? And the only person I can think of is gwen. But she’s in prison, obviously, so she couldn’t have done it.

Jack: The police don’t have any suspects at the moment.

Gwen: Is that why you came here, to ask me if I had something to do with it?

Jack: Of course not. My god, why would you even think that?

Gwen: I mean, it crossed my mind, that’s all, especially because of everything that happened between abigail and I in the past. I just really wish that the last time that I saw her hadn’t ended the way that it did.

Jack: When was the last time that you saw her?

Gwen: Yesterday. She came to visit me.

Jack: She did? Why?

Gwen: I guess you could say that our last encounter sealed both of our fates forever. Are you one of the millions of americans

Ava: So you’re gonna spend the summer with joey and stephanie?

Tripp: You know, it’ll be a little while before my ankle heals and I can get back to work, so I figured I might as well enjoy a little change of scenery until then.

Ava: But you’re coming back, right?

Tripp: Yes. At least I think so. I gotta clear my head, you know? Process everything that’s happened.

Ava: You’re talking about what happened with allie?

Tripp: That among other things, like almost dying, being possessed by the devil. I mean, you can understand why I might need to get away, can’t you?

Ava: Of course I can. What am I gonna do without you, hm?

Jack: I don’t understand. How did abigail’s visit here seal your fates?

Gwen: Well, I just meant that because of how things ended so badly between us, and now that she’s gone… I won’t ever have a chance to reconcile with her. Although, maybe that never would’ve happened anyway.

Jack: I would like to think that you would have eventually, that you both would’ve gotten past the anger and the resentment.

Gwen: Well, I guess now we’ll never know.

Gabi: You probably don’t know this, but abigail and i used to be best friends.

Li: I didn’t know that, no.

Gabi: She was my ride or die. Even after everything blew up, we had this connection. It’s like she could see the real me. She could see what I was hiding, see through my defenses. It was kind of annoying sometimes, but it was also very comforting.

Li: It’s a shame you two had a falling out.

Gabi: Yeah, yes, it is. And we spent a lot of time battling each other, tearing each other down, but every once in a while, we’d find some common ground, like we did with gwen rizczech.

Li: Hm, the infamous nanny?

Gabi: Yeah, abigail and I, we teamed up to bring her down. It didn’t go as planned, but it felt nice to be on the same side again. It’s funny, that was one of the few times that I had to stop abigail from making things worse. Usually, it was the other way around.

Li: It sounds like she was the yin to your yang, as my father would say, complete opposites who balanced each other out. You know, they say, “the shadow cannot exist without the light.”

Gabi: Yeah. Now that light is gone. What are we gonna do without her?

Kate: I know that you want justice for abigail. I do, but you have to let the police find out who did it, okay? You really need to focus on yourself and your children now.

[Soft music]

Chad: Ugh, I haven’t told them yet. I don’t know–i don’t know how I’m going to.

Kate: Charlotte and thomas, they’re strong, okay? And they’re resilient.

Jake: I’m not sure if you remember, but back when I first found out that I was a dimera, abigail had just come home from florida, right? And I fixed her car.

Chad: I remember.

Jake: Anyway, she had this book in the back seat by some writer, something ishiguro.

Chad: Kazuo.

Jake: That’s the one. “Never let me go.” Abigail, she asked me if i wanted to borrow it, and I said, “I’m not much of a reader.” But she insisted. And I ended up liking it. Anyway, the thing is, abigail barely knew me when she insisted that I borrow that book. And I always saw that as her reaching out to me, you know, sharing a part of herself. And that meant a lot. She made a real effort to welcome me into this family.

Chad: Unlike me.

Jake: I didn’t say that.

Chad: You didn’t have to. I don’t know if i ever made this clear. I hate that I made assumptions about your friendship with abby. I was an idiot to fall for gwen’s lies and to betray abby in the worst way possible. I hurt her badly. And I thought I had… I thought I had lost her for good. But we worked things out. We were happy. We were planning to have another baby.

Jake: Hey.

[Soft music]

Tripp: Well, I should probably get going.

Ava: Oh.

Tripp: Dad’s taking me to a farewell lunch before I go to the airport.

Ava: All right. You two have a good time.

Tripp: I’ll admit, I do feel a little guilty leaving right now; I mean, the timing isn’t ideal.

Ava: Why is that?

Tripp: I guess you haven’t heard. My cousin abigail, she died last night.

Ava: What–what happened?

Tripp: Someone broke into her house and stabbed her. Her husband, chad, found her lying there, and he got her to the hospital, but it was too late. It’s such a terrible tragedy. I mean, she’s got two little kids. She was such a wonderful person. I still can’t believe it.

Ava: That’s just horrible for her family. Do they have any suspects?

Tripp: No, not yet.

Gwen: So you and jennifer had to go and view abigail’s body? I mean, that seems rather cruel to make you do that. Couldn’t they have had chad do the necessary identifications?

Jack: Nobody made us do it. We wanted to do it. I wanted to see her. I wanted to tell her so many things that I’d wanted to say before she… anyway, her mother and me, as hard as it is, it’s nothing compared to what’s happening with thomas and charlotte, our grandbabies. They’re gonna grow up without their mother.

[Sobbing]

Gwen: Dad. Dad, listen, abigail knew how much you loved her. She did, she knew. And she knew how lucky she was to have a father as wonderful and caring as you, as am I.

Jack: Thank you. Thank you for saying that.

Gwen: It’s the truth, it is. It’s the truth. I’m so sorry. I’m sorry you’re going through this. I’m so, so sorry.

Jennifer: Okay. That’s the best I can do.

Steve: Well, in that case, why don’t you let me take you home now?

Kate: I tell you, it’s so difficult. It was so difficult. He’s in so much pain. And, out of grief, he accused me of killing abigail.

Tripp: Are you kidding me? This is perfect. I mean, it kind of reminds me of when we first started getting to know each other, bonding over fries with hot sauce.

Jack: Well, obviously, there’s no love lost between her and abigail, but I could tell. Much as she tried to put up a good front, I could tell that abigail’s death shook her more than she was letting on.

Ava: I just heard about abigail. It’s horrible, oh, my god.

Gwen: So you came all this way to give me your condolences?

Ava: No. I came to ask you one thing. Did you do it?

Gabi: I’m so sorry, chad. This is such a terrible tragedy. I just–my heart goes out to you and your children.

Gabi: I know you’re skeptical about my feelings for abigail. Yeah, we had a lot of problems. I loved her. I loved her very much. And it’s just complicated.

Chad: Yeah, that’s one word for it.

Gabi: You know, over the last year, I’d like to think that we’d gotten to an okay place. I hope she thought so too. You know, whoever did this made a huge mistake because nobody but me gets to mess with abigail deveraux dimera, all right? So we’re gonna find the son of a bitch who did this, and we’re gonna make them pay.

Kate: How could you have done something so stupid after working so hard to get sober?

Lucas: Maybe the pressure of keeping my secret finally got to me, all right?

Kate: Oh, god, lucas. So what did you do? So you just start drinking when I left the pub?

Lucas: Yeah, yeah, when you left, I stole a bottle from behind the bar, and i got totally wasted. I woke up with a massive hangover, and I have no memory of what I did after i left the pub.

Lucas: I have no idea. I just woke up with this cut on my hand, which could have been from a knife.

Kayla: She was just here– she was just here for a physical. She was–she was– she was in perfect health. Our sweet, beautiful niece was so full of energy and enthusiasm for life. And she wanted to have a baby. Now– [Groans]

[Soft dramatic music]

I can’t remember anything after I fell off the wagon, but, obviously, I hurt my hand. Please, god, don’t let me have hurt anyone else.

Kayla: We can’t begin to tell you how sorry we are.

Steve: Listen, we’re here for you. Whatever you need, okay?

Chad: I don’t want your sympathy, rafe. I want you to tell me who did this to my wife.

Gwen: Abigail’s dead?

Leo: She was murdered. Someone stabbed her to death in her bedroom.

Gwen: Was it you?

Chad: Who did this to my wife, rafe? I need you to find who did this.

Rafe: And we will. Csu was here all night gathering evidence; that’s why you couldn’t get back in until this morning. Everything is at the lab right now. It’s being tested as we speak.

Chad: Did you find a murder weapon?

Rafe: Not yet.

Chad: Do you have any suspects?

Rafe: Chad, listen to me, we have every available officer out there right now looking, chasing down leads, searching. We don’t have anyone in custody yet.

Chad: Then what are you doing here?

Rafe: Chad, I came here because I wanted to see the crime scene. I had to ask some questions myself.

Chad: Ask them.

Rafe: Okay. I want you to go with me up to the bedroom. Listen, you can take your time. Whenever you’re ready.

Chad: If I go up there, is it gonna help you catch the person who did this to my wife and send them straight to hell?

Rafe: Yes.

Abigail: Harold was looking at us kind of oddly.

Chad: He’s never seen two people kissing before.

Jennifer: [Exhales sharply]

[Breathing shakily]

Jennifer: [Breathing shakily] Can we have a minute alone with her?

Kayla: Take all the time you need.

[Somber music]

Jennifer: [Sobbing]

Leo: Why would you think that I killed abigail?

Gwen: You were in her house last night.

Leo: But you sent me there.

Gwen: I sent you directions to the secret room, where you were obviously lying in wait.

Leo: Um, no, I was drinking mimosas and working out a plan for revenge, which did not include me going all norman bates.

Gwen: Listen, if anyone understands, it is me. I understand the resentment and the rage that you felt when you crept out of that room and into abigail’s bedroom and you got that revenge that you so bloody well deserved.

[Dramatic music]

Rafe: Csu took the bedding for analysis. What’s in this box?

Chad: Some of abigail’s jewelry and some cash.

Rafe: Uh-huh. It looks like the lock’s been tampered with. Was it always that way?

Chad: No.

Rafe: No?

[Mysterious music]

Yeah. Can you give me a list of things that were in there?

Chad: Yeah, and–and, um, I’ll send you some photos that we had taken for insurance purposes too.

Rafe: Okay, great. That would be helpful.

Chad: Do you think this is a robbery gone wrong?

Rafe: It’s hard to say. Some other pricey items were here, like abigail’s laptop, so maybe someone just wanted to make it look like a robbery.

Chad: There was so much blood.

Rafe: Yeah. Well, maybe not all of it was abigail’S. The lab will check to determine if some of it belonged to someone else. We both know that abigail was a fighter, so whoever did this, well, they probably have wounds of their own.

Lucas: Hey, roman. Is my mom here?

Roman: No, she went to see chad.

Lucas: Good. That means I got a little time before she kills me for standing her up last night.

Roman: You haven’t heard?

Lucas: Heard what?

Roman: Lucas, you better have a sit.

Lucas: Please, tell me this has nothing to do with the devil and one of my kids. I can’t take that right now.

Roman: Look, this isn’t easy to say, so I’m just gonna say it. Abigail was murdered last night.

[Tense music]

Jennifer: Abigail johanna, my sweet child, my firstborn. You look so peaceful, like you’re sleeping. You never slept when you were a baby. You insisted on keeping those big, beautiful eyes wide open so you wouldn’t miss a thing. That was you, curious and alert from the moment you came into this world. You were this tiny, tiny little soul, so very fragile, and yet so incredibly strong. And you used that strength to fight. Whatever challenges life threw at you, you faced them. You overcame them with courage and with grace, just like your grandma laura. You always reminded me of her in that way, that strength, that fighting spirit. My extraordinary daughter, nothing I have ever done or will do will make me as proud as I am to be your mother. Take care of her, mom. [Sobbing]

Leo: That is a really nice story, guinevere, but it’s fiction. I did not kill abigail dimera.

Gwen: Really?

Leo: Really.

Gwen: Sorry. I just had to ask since you were in her house last night. So tell me, did you see anything?

Leo: What do you mean?

Gwen: I mean, you said that abigail was attacked in her bedroom. You weren’t up there at all, were you?

[Dramatic music]

Leo: Of course not. Now, if you’re done grilling me, I have a question of my own I’d like to ask.

Gwen: By all means.

Leo: You called me yesterday all hot and bothered because abigail had broken your little arts and crafts project.

Gwen: It was a mug that I made for my father for his birthday.

Leo: You asked abigail to deliver it. Instead, she dropped it on the floor, on purpose, which made you real mad. Mad enough that you told me to, and I quote, “find the nearest sharp object and use it to stab abigail through the heart.”

Gwen: Okay, you said you had a question?

Leo: Oh, right. Those instructions you gave me about the sharp object, any chance you followed through with them yourself?

Gwen: I haven’t a clue what you mean.

Leo: Oh, well, then allow me to rephrase. Did you kill abigail? My asthma felt anything but normal.

Chad: So what’s your take? You think it’s a robbery?

Rafe: Well, like I said, it’s possible. Robbery or no robbery, we will find them. We will follow every lead. We will pore over every shred of evidence. We will not stop until we get justice for abigail. If there’s anything you need, you call me.

[Somber music]

Gwen: How could I possibly have killed abigail?

Leo: From all reports, with a very sharp knife.

Gwen: You do realize that I am here in prison, don’t you? I’m locked up 24 hours a day.

[Mysterious music]

Guard: Hey! Rizczech!

Gwen: Oh. Hi, roy.

Guard: You missed bed check. Where the hell have you been?

Gwen: I have a pass to use the library. You can ask the matron.

Guard: We searched the library.

Gwen: Well, I fell asleep in a corner. I just woke up. Come on, roy. Where else could I have been? This place is surrounded 18-foot walls. There’s razor wire and guards with guns.

Leo: Yes, yes, dear, I know. But of all the ways abigail could have died, it happened exactly the way you wanted it to. And you sure did want it to happen.

Gwen: Okay, I will admit, yes, I did have a motive. But I did not have the means. And as far as opportunity, I mean, look around, matty. It’s just not possible.

Abigail: Come here, my love. Let’s make a baby.

[Somber music]

Chad: We can’T.

Abigail: I thought that’s what you wanted.

Chad: It is. I want that so much. But you’re gone. I need you to tell me what to do. How am I gonna tell the children that we do have that they’re never gonna see their mother again?

Jennifer: Go to her, jack.

Jack: I–I– I don’t want to say goodbye.

Jennifer: You don’t have to. Just say whatever’s in your heart.

[Soft dramatic music]

Jack: Abigail, my dear, sweet, precious girl… I’m sorry. For so many things, I’m sorry. I know you’d tell me not to– not to be, but I can’t help it. I am. I’m sorry for never being the father you deserved, for being selfish, for always falling short. All of it. I– I will always regret that. More than anything, I will regret taking you for granted, for assuming we had all the time in the world. I–I was starting to get the hang of it, you know? Being a good dad. And we were getting closer. And, oh, did you make me proud as a journalist, a mother, a human being. You inspired me. You taught me. In your all-too-short life, you gave me so much. Most of all, you gave me– you gave me hope. You were my light, abigail. In my darkest days, the light of your love kept me going and helped me find my way. And now some– someone cruel and dark has taken your light away. I don’t know if I’ll ever find my way out of this darkness.

[Dramatic music]

Leo: I suppose that’s true. So if you didn’t do it, and I didn’t do it, it would appear that somebody else did our dirty work for us.

Gwen: Hm.

Lucas: [Crying]

Roman: Lucas, I am so sorry. I know how much you loved your niece.

Lucas: Abigail was an angel. What happened to her is unimaginable. It takes me back to losing will. You know, no parent should ever have to feel that pain.

Roman: No, no. Is there anything you need? Anything I can get you? What did you do there?

Lucas: It’s nothing. It’s nothing to worry about. I have a splitting headache right now. I’ll take an aspirin if you’ve got one.

Roman: Sure. Be right back.

Kate: I just had a talk with chad.

Lucas: So what? What’s the big deal?

Kate: So the big deal is that he thought I should know that he told abigail that you’re the one who kidnapped sami.

Lucas: What? Oh, what did I do?

[Doorbell rings]

Kate: Oh, god. I’m so sorry.

Chad: Are you?

[ Screaming ]

Kate: Of course, I’m sorry. I’m heartbroken.

Chad: Shh!

[Tense music]

Kate: Where is this coming from? What did I do wrong?

Chad: You tell me.

Kate: I–I’m lost. I’m lost.

Chad: Really? Remember our–our conversation yesterday where I did you the enormous courtesy of telling you that I had told abigail the truth about lucas, hm? And you completely lost it?

Kate: Chad, I was–I was shocked, I was surprised.

Chad: No! No! No! You lost it! And then you ripped into me for not keeping my mouth shut!

Kate: Because I was concerned about my son, that’s why!

Chad: No, you were scared out of youmind that abigail was gonna share what she knew! Even after I told you that you had nothing to worry about, that she wouldn’t tell anyone! You said that that wasn’t good enough! That you–look at me! That you needed assurances that she wouldn’t tell anyone that lucas was the one that kidnapped sami!

Kate: [Spluttering]

Chad: Oh. Oh, what? Am I–was I–oh, shh. Was that too loud? Did you want me to keep my voice down? Huh? No one is here! Ej is at marlena’s with the kids! Tony and anna are gone! Harold is off! And my wife is dead! Is that good enough for your assurance?

Kate: Oh, my god, you think that I killed abigail to keep her quiet? Is that what you think?

Chad: Look at me. Did you?

Leo: I am so sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Although, you don’t seem that broken up about it.

Gwen: I do feel bad for jack.

Leo: Uh-huh.

Gwen: But you– well, you must be ecstatic with the unexpected assist.

Leo: Perhaps I wasn’t clear earlier. I wanted revenge against abigail badly. But I think what happened to her is horrible. It makes me sick, actually.

Gwen: Excuse me, but this might be just a tad revisionist, given as you were right in this very room just the other day joking about how you wanted to slit abigail’s throat.

Leo: Exactly. I was joking. I have to go.

Gwen: Thank you for filling me in.

Leo: I’m sorry for your loss.

[Mysterious music

Roman: Jennifer, I am so sorry.

Jennifer: Lucas, I’m so glad to see you.

Kate: I can’t begin to imagine the pain you’re going through right now, but I know that you can’t possibly believe that I could have had anything to do with abigail’s death.

Chad: I–I think that after our little talk, I think that you–you couldn’t shake your worry about lucas. So you came over here to have a–a little chat with my wife to impress upon her the importance of staying quiet. And my abby, she was taking offense to that, so I think that things maybe–maybe got out of hand a little bit.

Kate: Okay. I understand. But it doesn’t matter how worried I was, I would never ever–

Chad: Would never what? Never what, kate? Go to extremes to protect your kids?

Kate: I know you’re upset. I know that you’re exhausted. And I know that you’re not thinking straight, okay? I know that. But look at me. Look at me. Chad, look at me! I would never kill abigail to keep her quiet, and neither would lucas, okay?

Chad: Lucas? Why would you mention lucas?

Kate: Because that’s what this whole conversation is about. Because you told abigail that lucas was the one that kidnapped sami.

Chad: Yeah, but lucas didn’t know that. Or did he?

Steve: Hey, baby.

Kayla: Oh, hi.

Steve: Are you leaving?

Kayla: Yeah, I–I have to go back to the hospital. But lucas is in there with jennifer. Where’s jack?

Tripp: Some father you are. I’m over here recuperating from near-death injuries and you won’t let me win one hand.

Steve: Now, son, would you realeel good about yourself if I just let you win?

Tripp: I wouldn’t feel broke.

Steve: Oh, money isn’t everything. Here’s to more than one full pot.

Kayla: Ooh, how’s it going in here?

Tripp: I owe him 32 bucks. And I thought insurance companies were running up hospital bills.

Kayla: Well, if you switch your stuff to gin rummy, I think the tables might turn.

Steve: Oh yeah, good old gin rummy. Kayla: It’s your favorite game. Steve: So, what do you say? When do you think this superhero can get out of here? He’s going a little stir crazy.

Kayla: Oh, well funny you should ask. I just checked your latest scans and how does tomorrow sound?

Tripp: Oh, that sounds great.

Steve: That is great. By tomorrow night you’ll be sleeping in your own beddie bye.

Tripp: Actually, there’s something I wanted to tell you. I’m not coming home with you guys.

Chanel: I cannot believe we pulled this off. Our biggest cupcake order coming in ten minutes after the bakery’s oven goes down.

Allie: What I don’t get is who knows they needs 300 cupcakes early in the morning and places the order at 5:00 P.M. The night before? Like, they had no advance knowledge that they were gonna need 300 cupcakes? Was it, like, a spur of the moment craving?

Chanel: I think it was some weird cupcake emergency. But luckily, sweet bits was up for the job.

Allie: Well, when the going gets tough, the tough get baking.

Chanel: Yeah, well I don’t feel so tough right now. What I feel is bone-tired. I really do appreciate you coming by to help me after hours.

Allie: Well, I really appreciate you giving me my job back after everything.

Chanel: I love how we now call getting serially possessed by the devil “everything.”

Allie: Well, I mean after everything you went through, okay. I wouldn’t blame you if you wanted me to just be someone you used to know.

Chanel: Well, I did get rid of any devil’s food from the menu.

Allie: I noticed. Although I’ve, like, barely had a moment to breathe today. I don’t remember the bakery ever being this busy. Seriously, how did you manage this all on your own for weeks?

Chanel: Honestly? I’m not sure how I did it without you.

Susan: Oh, goody. Oh sweet bits, they are my weakness.

[Gasps] Ooh. Maybe I shouldn’t have said that.

Johnny: Why not? A weakness for sweet bits seems to run in the family.

Marlena: Susan, it was so good of you to invite johnny over to have supper with his grandmothers.

Susan: Well, even if I had to invite you to host it.

Marlena: As long as you cook it.

Susan: Well, you know what? I know how much you two love my gumbo.

Johnny: No one makes it like you do, grandma.

Susan: Well, you know what? I figured that you wouldn’t want to set foot into that creepy dimera house, not with–aren’t these the prettiest cupcakes you’ve ever seen?

[Clears throat] I just didn’t want–i didn’t want to force you two to bear witness to something that you don’t approve of.

Johnny: What? You mean like threats, blackmail, bad decor?

Susan: Well, those too. But, no. What I was speaking of, dr. Marlena evans, is–and you might as well know, I think there’s something going on between my son and your daughter.

Ej: Belle, I just wanted to say how sorry I am for the thoughtless thing I said today. I never should have been so unfeeling about a child’s life. All I have to say for myself is that it was a ham-handed attempt to make you feel better.

Belle: Well, I do so want to.

[Tender music]

Johnny: What, you think that my dad has a thing for aunt belle? And that’s why she moved in with us?

Marlena: No, but you know that shawn and belle were having some problems lately. Shawn thinks he has to be responsible for jan, and belle can’t bear the idea of being under the same roof that she is.

Johnny: Got it. I can’t blame her.

Susan: And the fact–and the fact that–that belle had a very good reason for leaving her husband’s house, and she had another good reason for leaving her parents’ house. It just doesn’t explain why she went to elvis’s house. I mean, she could have went to the salem inn. She could have went on a spiritual retreat. But no, no. She went straight into–

Marlena: The fact that she went to the dimera mansion does not mean there’s something untoward going on. Belle loves shawn.

Susan: Well, I never said that she didn’T. And I didn’t say that she loves elvis. All I am saying, dr. Marlena evans, is that she is not camping out at chez dimera for the ambience.

[Soft dramatic music]

Ej: Belle, you’re upset. I don’t want to take advantage.

Belle: You wouldn’t be. I just want to forget about everything. I want this. I want you. Take me to bed.

Chad: We’re gonna get help, baby, okay.

[Phone beeps]

[Line trilling] Yes, hello? This is chad dimera. I need an ambulance at 430 lakeview drive. No, I don’t know. There’s a lot of blood. I–I don’t know what happened. I don’t–no, I don’t–i don’t see any kind of weapon.

Abigail: A knife. They had a knife.

Marlena: Susan, I think we’re making johnny uncomfortable.

Johnny: No. No. I’m not uncomfortable. I’m scared. If mom ever finds out that aunt belle likes my dad, I’m not sure either one of them is gonna make it to their next birthday.

Susan: Oh, yeah. Nobody has to be psychic to know that sami brady dimera would just flip her lid.

Johnny: And we should change the subject. My grandma marlena’s already worried enough about belle, with jan having her baby tonight, and–well, everything, you know.

Susan: Oh, you know what? You’re right. You’re right. You’re right. You’re right. You know what? Dr. Marlena evans, I have been so insensitive. Can you please just forgive me? I’m sorry.

Marlena: Why don’t we just have some cupcakes?

Susan: Okay. Oh, what–these are just–what’s in this? I mean–oh, you know what i like the most is the chai ones that–that–that chanel does.

Johnny: Yeah, I don’t know. I-I just asked allie to give me an assortment, so…

Susan: Oh, so allie’s back at the bakery?

Johnny: Oh, yeah, yeah. That was super fun. Allie acted pretty cool towards me, but chanel pretended like she didn’t even see me.

Susan: Oh, I’m sorry.

Johnny: You know what, grandma susan? You’re better than a ouija board. So why don’t you tell me who chanel’s gonna end up with? Me or allie?

[Dramatic acoustic music]

Chanel: My god, listen to me. “I don’t know how I made it without you.” I mean, that’s a little over the top, even for me.

Allie: Well, actually, it was nice to hear that you missed me. At the bakery, I mean.

Chanel: I didn’t just miss you at the bakery. I’m–I’m sorry. I-I’m sending mixed signals.

Allie: No. I’m sorry if I read too much into what you said.

Chanel: Okay. Yeah. This–this is–this is awkward.

Allie: Yeah. But we found out that we still work well together. So maybe we can find out that we’re still friends.

Chanel: Yeah. And I hope I didn’t come off too obnoxious yesterday when I said “I choose me.”

Allie: No. No. I totally get it. I mean, you need to be the one to decide if you want to be with me or johnny.

Chanel: Yeah. But I was being a little “captain of my own fate” about it.

Allie: Oh, my god, did you notice johnny “dropping in” during our evening rush? It was like he was little red riding hood getting goodies for his grandma.

Chanel: Yeah. I–I saw him, but I didn’t get a chance to say “hi.”

Allie: I mean, he was totally checking in on us. Like, he was talking to me but the entire time, he was looking over my shoulder, obviously looking for you.

Chanel: I didn’t notice.

Allie: I’m really surprised that he left without trying to say, “hi.”

Chanel: You know what? I-I think he understands that–that I need time and space to figure out what I want.

Allie: I guess.

Chanel: And honestly, horton, you were just ready to marry tripp. I think that maybe you need the same thing.

[Soft dramatic music]

Tripp: I hope you’re not upset with me.

Steve: No. No. I’m not upset. You’re single again. You staying with dad and step-mom, it’s gonna cramp your style, right?

Tripp: Well, the thing is, dad, it’s not that.

Kayla: Then what is it?

Tripp: Well, first of all, you’ve both been amazing, letting me stay with you all this time.

Kayla: Well, you’re our son. So of course, we love having you there.

Steve: And it was no big deal because you’ve been spending most of your nights here in the on-call room instead of in your own bed.

Tripp: Yes. But I won’t be doing that anymore, either. I’m not moving across town to a bachelor pad. I’m leaving salem.

Chad: I am applying pressure, but it’s not–nothing’s working! No, just hurry up, please!

[Dramatic music]

Abigail: [Mumbles softly]

Chad: What?

Chad: I don’t know what happened. I think–I think somebody stabbed her, but they must still be in the house. I don’t know where the kids are. Please find thomas and charlotte, okay? Please find my kids.

Ej: Have–have you called the police?

Chad: Yes, I called them. Just find my kids!

Belle: We will!

Chad: Baby, baby, the kids are gonna be fine, okay. Hey, the kida are gonna be okay. And so are you. I promise, okay? Hey baby, baby, baby, I just need you to hold on, okay? Okay? Hold on, please. Abby, please. Okay, snacks and popcorn are gonna be expensive.

Johnny: So grandma, how does the story end? Does chanel end up with allie or me?

Marlena: I don’t think it’s fair to put susan on the spot.

Susan: It’s okay. It’s all in good fun. If you get the answer you want. Okay. Well, I’m gonna need something personal. I guess this–this will do just fine. Okay?

[Exhales deeply]

[Clears throat]

[Breathes deeply] I’m getting something. Hold on. Hold on. I’m getting something.

Johnny: What?

Susan: Oh, it’s dark chocolate with hazelnut filling.

Johnny: Come on, grandma,

Chanel: I know, but he did almost die for you.

Allie: Yeah, and I will always be grateful for that, but that’s all, and tripp knows that. And now I know exactly who I want to be with.

Chanel: Yeah. So–so you said.

Allie: Hey, how’s your mom, by the way? I should have asked.

Chanel: Um, well, you know her. She’s trying to be brave, but I know deep down she is terrified of going to prison for the rest of her life.

Allie: I’m so sorry she’s going through this. How are you doing?

Chanel: Well, you know, mama has a really big personality, so it’s–it’s really quiet without her here. Empty. Lonely.

Allie: Hey.

Chanel: Until tonight.

Steve: So you’re leaving salem?

Tripp: Not forever. It’s just, you know, it’ll be a couple of months before I’m ready to get back to work, so–

Steve: Yeah. So you need a–you need a break. How about you and i take a little road trip?

Kayla: So, tripp, what are you gonna do? You gonna go to the beach, or you’re gonna work on your tan or what?

Tripp: Actually, I talked to stephanie and joey last night about maybe spending some time with them in seattle this summer.

Steve: Oh.

Kayla: I think that is a great idea. I know they would love to spend time with you and see you and–right?

Steve: Yeah. Yeah. I think–I think it’s a great idea. Yeah. Just caught me by surprise, that’s all.

Tripp: Kind of surprised me too. I think it’s that near-death experience kind of thing.

Kayla: I can understand that.

Tripp: Yeah. It got me thinking, you know, about what really matters. For me, that’s family. I really like steph and joe, but I want to get to know them as my sister and my brother.

Steve: Well, that makes me happy.

Tripp: I’ve been thinking about going out there for a while, you know, but it was always, you know, “later, when I have the time.” You know, lying in this bed has made me realize that you never really know how much time you actually have,things that really before it’s too late.

Abigail: Chad.

Chad: Hey, baby. No, it’s okay. Shhh, I need you to save your energy, okay? The ambulance is gonna be here any minute. I promise you.

Ej: We found the kids. Belle’s taking them to her mother’S.

Chad: Are they okay? Hey by, do you hear that? The ambulance is here.

Ej: I’ll go down, show them up here.

[Siren blaring]

Abigail: Chad.

Chad: Yeah, baby?

Abigail: I’m so cold.

Tripp: I’ll be back.

Kayla: Well, I hope so. Just know that there is a place for you with us and with the hospital. You can come back anytime you want.

Tripp: Thank you for everything. You’ve been amazing.

Kayla: Amazingly selfish. No, really, you are the best intern in your cohort. I mean, you are such an asset to this hospital. You–you just make me look good.

Tripp: Yeah, well, we both know that it was you who made my life easier. I mean, those late night intubation lessons.

Steve: What is it?

Kayla: It’s the er. They’re understaffed, and there’s a stabbing victim coming in. So I’ll see you, okay?

[Soft dramatic music]

Steve: Well, whoever it is, I hope they’re okay.

Chad: They never got her pulse back in the ambulance. So she probably didn’t even know I was there.

Ej: Hey, hey, I’m sure she did.

Kayla: Chad! Chad, are you hurt?

Chad: No, it’s not mine. It’s–it’s abigail’S. Can you please help her?

Steve: So buddy… you sure you want to do this?

Tripp: I know what you’re thinking. That I’m running away.

Johnny: How? I mean, that–that house is supposed to be like–like a fortress. Do we know who did it? How they got in?

Ej: It’s–it’s harold’s night off. Tony and anna are away. Belle and I– we didn’t see anything. The–the police are searching the house for evidence.

Johnny: Okay. So–so–so how bad is it? Does she have to stay– stay overnight?

Ej: Johnny.

Shawn: They’ve given you an iv to slow it down, all right? It should kick in soon, all right?

Jan: Oh, god, what if it doesn’t? Oh. What if the baby comes today? It’s too soon.

Marlena: Oh, hi, sarah.

Marlena: She is. I think she might be in surgery.

Kate: So the big deal is that he thought I should know… that he told abigail that you’re the one who kidnapped sami.

Lucas: [Whispers] What? You got to be kidding me.

Chad: So when you say gwen wasn’t too happy–

Abigail: That I accidentally broke the stupid mug she made for my dad? Ha. It’s an understatement. She also said that she would “make…me…pay.”

Chad: Did she…say how she was…gonna do that?

Abigail: No. No, she was just trying to scare me. Could you not look so worried? The woman’s behind bars. There’s nothing she can do to me.

[Line ringing]

Gwen: It’s gwen. Who else would be bloody phoning you from prison? Look, I need to talk to you about abigail. If I don’t get to spend my father’s birthday with him, then neither does she.

Leo: Don’t you think you’re being a little dramatic?

Gwen: No, leo, I don’T. I asked her for one tiny little simple favor. I just wanted to make sure that my father would receive the gift that I made for him for his birthday. And you know what she did? She smashed it into tiny million pieces.

Leo: That was rude, but–

Gwen: Shh. This is what I want you to do. I want you to find the nearest sharpest object and I want you to stab her in the heart with it.

[Ominous music]

Marlena: What makes you think the antidote is wearing off?

Sarah: Xander and I, uh, went to see my mom to tell her that I had gotten my memory back and that we were together.

Marlena: I know, I was happy to hear that news.

Sarah: Thank you. And while we were there, I– I had a hallucination.

Marlena: What kind of hallucination?

Sarah: I saw kristen…and she had a syringe in her hand. And, marlena, it was so real. And I thought that she was coming after me again and then I realized that it wasn’t kristen, it was victor and he was just holding a pen in his hand.

Marlena: How did they react?

Sarah: They didn’T. They don’t know. I– it happened so fast that they just didn’t catch on, thank god, because I don’t want them to worry, but I– I’m scared to death. Do you know what’s happening to me?

Marlena: The important thing is for you to not to panic.

Sarah: How do I do that? I-I’m seeing things that aren’t there. Am I losing my mind? What did gwen do to me?

Leo: Gwenevere, this sounds a little extreme, even for you.

Gwen: Leo, do you remember our double wedding? You remember that was supposed to be the day that would change our lives forever? And then do you remember being dumped by xander and craig? So here’s the burning question. Why is it that you and i are always the ones who suffer when abigail and chad get to go on living their perfect, happy little lives together?

Leo: I am just infuriated as you are, but–

Gwen: Why is there even a but in this? My god, don’t tell me you’re folding. What happened to the bloke who said he wants to inflict pain on all the ones who hurt him?

Leo: I am that bloke. I told you what I did to sonny and chad.

Gwen: Pfff. Please. Come on, planting sleazy rumors in a tabloid that everybody knows is just chock-full of lies. No, we need to do what they did to us. We need to hurt them the way that they hurt us.

[Beep beep]

Leo: Gwen, I gotta go. My phone is about to die.

Gwen: And hopefully, so is abigail because if she doesn’t–

[Beep] Leo? Leo!

[Huffs]

Abigail: Gwen’s just going to sit around hating my guts like she always does. What’s new?

Chad: Well, while we’re on the subject of people who hate our guts–

Abigail: Oof. Did you talk to kate?

Chad: Yeah, I told her that you know lucas is the one that kidnapped sami.

Abigail: How’d she take it?

Chad: She was not pleased.

Abigail: Well, you told her I was going to keep my mouth shut, right?

Chad: Yep. Pretty much those exact same words.

Lucas: Why the hell would chad do something like that?

Kate: He didn’t have a choice, okay? Abigail got it into her head that she wanted to solve the mystery and she was planning on publishing the article about it in “the spectator.”

Lucas: Oh, my god.

Kate: Yeah, well, she’d already dug up your little friend pete.

Lucas: How? How’d she do that?

Kate: Well, apparently he got himself arrested again, so she was determined to go to wisconsin and interview him.

Lucas: Oh, my god, just what I need. This is great. Perfect.

Kate: Yeah, well, chad tried to talk her out of it, but he couldn’t do it and, you know, he was worried about what could happen to her if she went down to investigate. So…[Sighs] Well, he thought the best way to get out of it was to tell her that it was her beloved uncle lucas who kidnapped sami and frankly, sweetie, I can’t blame him.

Lucas: Well, I can blame him. What if chad or abigail tells ej? What if they tell ej or anyone else for that matter? I’m screwed!

Ej: Didn’t you say that if shawn told you immediately after he slept with jan that you would try and convince her to take the morning after pill?

Belle: Well, yeah, I did say that, but that’s not the same thing. The morning after pill prevents pregnancy–it doesn’t end one. This is a life we’re talking about, okay? And I do not, nor have I ever, wished this baby dead. But it could. It could die. Oh, my god. I am sitting here feeling sorry for myself, and shawn’s probably at the hospital right now freaking out, so I have to go.

Ej: Why would you do that?

Belle: Because whether I like it or not, this is shawn’s baby and this child could– I would never forgive myself if I wasn’t there. The lows of bipolar depression

Marlena: You are not losing your mind.

Sarah: Then why do I think that I saw kristen? The antidote is supposed to reverse the effects of rolf’s drug, right?

Marlena: And it has set aside a lot of the damage you’ve been through. But because of the dosage you have, well, there might… might be flare-ups. I know kayla has prescribed the medication for you.

Sarah: The one that helped abigail.

Marlena: But the dosage may have to be increased.

Sarah: Um… let me ask you something. If we do increase my meds, are these hallucinations something that I’m just going to have live with for the rest of my life?

Marlena: I certainly hope not. But you did have such a large dose, it’s hard to give you any guarantees.

Sarah: Oh, my god.

Marlena: We can… adjust the dosage of your new medication, but…it’s been so effective. You know, I think we have reason to be optimistic.

Sarah: If you say so.

Marlena: I also think you might want to talk to abigail. She’s been through all this.

Sarah: Yeah, that’s a great idea. Thank you so much for talking me down, marlena.

Marlena: Any time at all.

Sarah: [Sniffling]

[Elevator bell dings] Belle, hi, honey, what are you doing here?

Belle: Hi. I was with shawn when you called to say jan was in labor.

Marlena: Yes. Well, she was, uh, admitted a little while ago.

Belle: She can’t have the baby now though, right? It’s so soon.

Marlena: Yeah, it is soon. They’ve have her on some medication to slow down the contractions or even stop them, hopefully.

Shawn: Jan just passed out.

Marlena: Sorry, honey.

[Edgy music]

Ej: I was too direct with belle just now. I thought I was comforting her, but she left deeply offended. You wouldn’t have cared about that, as long as you made your point. I, however, do care. So I suppose I should find a way to…make this right. With no help from you.

[Deep sigh]

Leo: Good lord, I thought he’d never shut up and leave. Seems like everyone around here uses you as some kind of sounding board. So, pops, what do I do about abigail? Or…to her?

Chad: Well, you’re right. Kate and lucas have nothing to worry about. Have I thanked you enough for agreeing not to say anything?

Abigail: I can always stand to hear it again.

Chad: Yeah?

Abigail: Mm-hmm.

Chad: Well, I’m sorry for putting you in that position. I never want to ask you to lie to anyone, especially a member of your own family.

Abigail: Lucas is my mom’s half-brother. I’m not related to sami by blood, not like you and ej.

Chad: Ha ha. Keeping secrets from each other is part of my family’s favorite pastime. Keeping secrets from my wife is not something I’ll ever do again.

Abigail: There’s nothing you can’t tell me. I’m always gonna be on your side.

Abigail: You’re my husband and the father of my children, and I also happen to love you a whole damn lot.

Abigail: Yeah. Uh, speaking of our children, I took my temperature this morning.

Shawn: Hey.

Belle: Hey. How is she?

Shawn: They, uh… they rushed her to the or.

Belle: She’s in surgery?

Shawn: They said that she had something called a placental abruption.

Belle: A woman in my office had that. It’s where the placenta separates from the uterine wall.

Shawn: What happened to her?

Belle: She lost the baby. I’m sorry.

Shawn: No, it’s all right, I…I asked, so–

Belle: Well, what did my mom say?

Shawn: She said that she’d stay with jan. And I tried to go with her, but they wouldn’t let me. They just– they were all so serious when they rushed her out of there. I have no idea what’s gonna happen to her. Or to the baby.

Kate: Okay, look. Chad gave me his word abigail is not going to say anything.

Lucas: And you bought that?

Kate: Yes, I bought it. She’s not going to send her uncle to prison, lucas.

Lucas: Why not? She sent her own sister there.

Kate: Okay, all right. That’s completely different and you know it is. My point is, abigail hates gwen. She loves you. And she would understand that you were so desperate to keep sami from going back to ej, you–

[Sighs] Oh, my god, you did a bone-headed thing.

Lucas: I know that–thank you for addressing that now.

Kate: My point is, she’s not gonna send you to jail just because she feels like it. She’s a good person, lucas.

Lucas: She’s a good person. She’s an editor at a newspaper, and you told me yourself she was working on sami’s kidnapping story. What if she decides to run the story anyway? What happens then?

Kate: Oh, my god, I mean, god, I… maybe you should just…

Lucas: What? What? Spit it out, I know you’re gonna say it anyway, just say it.

Kate: Well, you’re not gonna like it.

Lucas: What’s new?

Kate: Don’t you think it would solve all your problems if you just told sami the truth?

Lucas: Oh, yeah, that would really work out great for me. Nice idea.

Kate: You don’t know! I mean, how many times over the years have the two of you forgiven each other for doing horrible things? Why wouldn’t she eventually understand and forgive you? Lucas, if you’re thinking of marrying sami, you can’t live with this secret between you.

[Distant background chatter]

Gwen: What are you doing here?

Sarah: We haven’t been properly introduced. I’m sarah horton. Oh, come on. My face has to seem a little familiar. Seeing as how you borrowed it to break up with xander as me. Gotta be a little strange for you, huh? It’s like looking into a mirror.

Leo: Hello?

[Distant laughter, chatter]

Chad: He’s never seen two people kissing before.

Abigail: In this house, maybe not.

Chad: Mmm. So is this whole, uh, whole temperature thing, is it real?

Abigail: It’s pretty reliable. I have some other signs too.

Chad: Yeah?

Abigail: Mm-hmm.

Chad: Well, then, let’s seal the deal.

[Intense percussive music]

Gwen: Look, sarah, I-I… I really don’t want to get into this now.

Sarah: Oh, you don’t? That’s too bad. You knew that kristen was holding me prisoner on that island, and you left me there. Stranded. I’d probably still be there if it weren’t for abigail.

Gwen: If it weren’t for abigail, you probably would never have been sent to that bloody island.

Sarah: Oh, yes, please, please tell me–how is it abigail’s fault?

Gwen: That syringe that kristen jabbed you with… she never would’ve gotten her hands on it if abigail hadn’t have left it in the good old dimera secret room. You know she was planning to use it on me.

Sarah: Oh, that’s right. You’re the victim in all of this.

Gwen: I didn’t kidnap you, did I? So why don’t you just go find kristen a-and tell her all your troubles?

Sarah: Oh, I plan to. But I thought I’d start with you first. When they finally got back here, when xander got me the antidote that would end the hell I had been living in, that didn’t work for you. So you made sure I got a double dose of that crazy-making drug.

Gwen: You got the antidote, didn’t you? I mean, look at you. You’re…you’re good as new. You’re perfect. So why are you here bothering me?

[Intense, dark music]

Chad: Do you think today’s the day that we made a baby?

Abigail: I mean, if we didn’t, it wasn’t for lack of trying.

[Giggles] But I feel like we did.

Chad: What? Wow.

Abigail: What are you hoping for? Another girl or another boy?

Chad: Hmm.

[Sucks tongue] Twins.

Abigail: Twins. You realize we’d be seriously outnumbered.

Chad: Even with one more, we’d have to switch to a zone defense. At least thomas and charlotte are old enough to help out.

Abigail: You mean the kids who have clogged literally every single drain in this house with glitter slime?

Chad: Fair. Okay, so maybe another year or two. Our kids are… pretty precocious, aren’t they?

Abigail: That’s what the plumber said. Uh…speaking of our kids, what do you think about taking a little trip with them tonight?

Chad: Tonight?

Abigail: Mm-hmm.

Chad: Where?

Abigail: Well, tomorrow’s my dad’s birthday. I think I’d really like to be with him. So…we could all fly to boston together. What do you think?

Chad: I think that it is a great idea. Seems pretty sudden though. Think that maybe we could maybe leave in the morning? If we leave early enough, we’ll still have plenty of time to celebrate.

Abigail: Mmm… sure. Why not? I mean, what difference does one night make?

Shawn: So what, uh…so what are you doing here anyway?

Belle: I was worried about the baby. And you. You must be scared.

Shawn: Yeah. Yeah, I am.

[Sighs] It’s the baby that I never wanted to happen. And then I started thinking about…’bout whether or not it’s going to be a boy or a girl and…what it would be like to take care of a new baby and–

Belle: Yeah, well, there’s the best doctors here, right? And you said my mom’s with jan. She’ll make sure gets the very best care. She likes her obstetrician, right?

Shawn: You know, this-this thing that… this thing that happened to her, they said that the baby might be-might be deprived of oxygen and nourishment, and that it’s just going to be touch and go and–

Belle: Come here. Come here. You just… you have to keep believing the baby’s going to be okay.

Shawn: I just wonder how long it’s going to be until I hear something.

Belle: No matter how long it takes, I’ll be here with you.

Lucas: Maybe you’re right. Maybe I will tell sami the truth.

Kate: Will you?

Lucas: Of course not! No way. What do you think she’s gonna do when she finds out that i I kidnapped her? What is she gonna say, “let bygones be bygones”?

Kate: Well, no, not right away.

Lucas: No, as soon she finds out that I’m the guy who’s responsible for holding her against her will for months, you know what she’s going to do? She’s not going marry me. She’s gonna send me to prison. And then she’s going to go back to ej. She’s going to go back to ej so fast, our heads will spin.

Kate: Oh, god, tell me about it. So it’s fine. Don’t tell sami. I mean, truthfully, lucas, I just hated seeing all of this eat away at you.

Thomas: What if my loose tooth comes out? Will the tooth fairy find us in boston?

Thomas: It’s a he. And what about “minions”?

Abigail: Uh…what?

Chad: Uh, mommy has had a lot on her mind. Dimera’s doing a special screening of the new “minions” movie, and I said that we could go.

Abigail: Oh, well, what time is the screening?

Chad: It is…in like an hour. We can still make it, right, guys?

Thomas: Can you come too?

Abigail: I would love to–

[Beep beep] But, uh…oh, boy. I still have to approve the layout for the style section. My assistant’s going to send it to me in one hour.

Charlotte: So we can’t go to the movie?

Chad: Well, is it okay if I take you?

Charlotte: Yeah. We’re going to see “minions.”

Chad and abigail: Yes.

Abigail: But first you gotta change your clothes, okay? So I laid some things out on your bed.

Thomas: Cool!

Abigail: Yeah.

Charlotte: Bye, mommy.

Abigail: Excuse me! Hugs. Give me a hug here, you. Get over here, you. Mm-mm-mm-mm! Okay, I love you. Have fun at the movie.

Thomas: Bye.

[Both chuckle]

Sarah: You ask why I’m bothering you? Do I really have to spell it out?

Gwen: You got what you wanted, didn’t you?

Sarah: I had to relive the death of my baby! Do you have any idea what that’s like?

Gwen: Yeah, actually, I do.

Sarah: Try doing it twice. And, yes, I got my memory back. Thank you for asking. But even with that antidote, I still have hallucinations. I thought that victor was kristen, and I nearly attacked him.

Gwen: Oh, wow, wish i could’ve been there to see that.

Sarah: You are a miserable human being.

Gwen: I am paying for it now, aren’t I? I’m here, I’m stuck in this horrible hellhole. I have lost everything. I have lost my family, I have lost my freedom. I lost xander.

Sarah: You did it all to yourself. Xander and I are back together, by the way.

Gwen: That is only because my darling sister stopped the wedding. He loved me. He did. We were going to be married. That’s how much he grieved for you.

Sarah: Yeah, we sorted all that out. We’re very…very happy. So, think about that when they take you back to your cell.

Belle: Ej.

Shawn: What are you doing here?

Ej: I wanted to inquire about the baby.

Shawn: You couldn’t care less about my baby.

Ej: I understand how worried you must be.

Shawn: Yeah, you know what? I am worried, and the last thing I want to deal with is you, so why don’t you get the hell out of here? Well, what are you waiting for, huh?

Belle: Mom.

Shawn: Marlena. What happened in the or? Did they stop the bleeding?

Marlena: Yes. They did. Jan is going to be fine. But they had to deliver the baby.

Shawn: They did?

Marlena: He’s small, but he’s alive.

Shawn: He?

Marlena: Oh, yes, you’ve had a son.

[Emotional music]

Shawn: So the baby, he’s, uh, he’s all right?

Marlena: Yes. They rushed him to the nicu. He’ll be there for quite a while.

Shawn: Can I see him?

Marlena: No, no, they’re still evaluating him.

Shawn: Okay. Uh, a-and what about jan? Where is she?

Marlena: They’ve taken jan back to her room. She wasn’t completely out of the anesthesia yet.

Shawn: Okay. Uh… I should… I should probably be there when she wakes up, I think. Um… look, thank you. Thank you for staying with me.

Marlena: Well, I think I’ll go back to the nicu and see if I can get any information for shawn. Honey.

Ej: That must’ve been a lot to take in. I wish you’d say something.

Belle: Just get me out of here.

Ej: Where would you like to go?

Gwen: It’s gwen. I need your help.

Chad: Are you skipping the brand-new “minions” movie to scroll through your feed?

Abigail: Pfft. Trust me, if I didn’t have to check this page layout, my butt would be right there in the front row right next to you.

Chad: It’s okay. You’re not really well enough informed of whether or not the minions know spongebob.

Abigail: We got great kids, don’t we?

Chad: We sure do.

Abigail: We’re lucky.

Chad: Yes, we are. Oh, uh, what was the whole tooth fairy thing about?

Abigail: You better get the kids rounded up. I’ll tell you when you get back.

Abigail: Hey. I love you.

Lucas: For all I know, abigail could be writing that story right now. By the morning I’d be finished. Will and allie are going to hate me. Sami’s going to hate me for sure, I know that. And I might be headed for prison.

Belle: Even a gourmet dinner can’t erase this day, but the second bottle of wine definitely took the edge off.

Ej: I just wanted to say sorry for the thoughtless thing I said today. I never should’ve been so unfeeling about a child’s life. All I can say for myself is that it was a very ham-handed attempt to make you feel better.

Belle: And I do so want to. Please…make me feel better.

Gwen: Oh. Hi, roy.

You missed bed check. Where the hell have you been?

Gwen: I have a pass to use the library. You can ask the matron.

Kate: You told abigail that lucas was the one who kidnapped sami?

Chad: I did.

Kate: Why did you do that?

Marlena: It was so good to see will. I miss him already.

Lucas: Yeah. Well, he’ll be back soon. It’ll be nice to have the whole family together.

Marlena: , That’s– that’s exactly what he said.

Lucas: Did he?

Marlena: He did.

Lucas: Hm.

Marlena: Yeah, before he left for the airport. And, in fact, he used that exact phrase, “the whole family.”

Lucas: Ah-huh.

Marlena: Uh-huh. And then roman gave you a wry little smile and said something about planning a party?

[Cell phone buzzes] Oh, looks like I have to get to an appointment. So you’re off the hook– for the moment.

Lucas: [Laughs]

[Sneaky music]

Shawn: Is there a problem with the couch?

Jan: It’s okay, I guess.

Shawn: Well, you’ve spent entire days on it before and you haven’t had a problem.

Jan: Today is different. Today, I have my first appointment with marlena.

Shawn: So?

Jan: So normally a patient travels to their therapist’s office, not the other way around. Of course, I can’t do that because of the bed rest and high-risk pregnancy, not to mention this lovely piece of jewelry.

Shawn: Look, if you think I’m taking that thing off of you–

Jan: No, I fully accept that I’m under house arrest. Houseas not designed for a person who’s about to undergo a major psychological breakthrough. With that said, I can make sure that the conditions are as close to perfect as possible.

Shawn: Well, like you said, it’s your first session, so I’d keep my expectations low.

Jan: I know I won’t become mentally healthy overnight. But mark my words, I will get there. I will be the mother our baby deserves.

Belle: I was just returning your robe. I didn’t know you were in here.

Ej: Obviously not.

Susan: Oh! Well, I’ll be. Th-there it is again.

Abigail: There’s what again?

Susan: Abigail, I just got this feeling, you know, this very powerful feeling that there is a foreign presence among us. Yeah, there’s someone here that’s not supposed to be in this house.

Abigail: Huh. Well, maybe it’s the tooth fairy.

Susan: Say what?

Abigail: Well, thomas said he was down in the basement playing hide-and-seek with his sister, and he ran into the tooth fairy.

Susan: [Groans] She and I are not on good terms.

Abigail: You had a falling out with a fairy?

Susan: She owes me a buck fifty for my wisdom teeth. Hmph. Do you think she’s flittering around down there still because, you know what, I’d like to have a word with her.

Abigail: You know, I think I’m gonna go down there and I’m gonna take a look.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Shawn: Thank you for making time to see jan.

Jan: Yes, dr. Evans, thank you so much. I have a really good feeling about this. And I promise I’m gonna be the best patient you’ve ever had.

Marlena: We’ll take it one step at a time and see how it goes.

Shawn: I’m gonna head out. I’m gonna, you know, give you two some privacy, okay?

Jan: Will you be at the police station? I’m not stalking him. I just like to know where he is in case something happens with our baby.

Shawn: Actually, I was gonna head to your place, marlena, see if belle’s there. See if I can get her to reconsider the separation papers that she had me just sign.

Marlena: Um, belle’s not at our place.

Shawn: Where is she?

Belle: I should go, and you should get dressed.

Ej: Did harold send up that breakfast tray? The steak and eggs I can’t wait for you to try.

Belle: Uh, no, actually, it seemed to have disappeared.

Ej: Disappeared?

Belle: Yeah, cook said he prepared the tray, and harold went to go get it, but it wasn’t there.

Ej: How odd.

Belle: Yeah. I don’t know what happened.

Ej: Perhaps a hungry little fairy stole it.

[Both laugh]

Abigail: I’m gonna go see if I can find this tooth fairy.

Susan: In that creepy basement?

Abigail: Yeah, thomas said he ran into someone who made him promise to keep quiet.

Susan: That’s very strange.

Abigail: It is, which is why I’m gonna go and I’m gonna check it out. So will you just let the nanny know where I am?

Susan: You sure you don’t want me to go down there with you? Like I said, I do feel a presence, and it could turn out to be mean, mean, mean.

[Cell phone rings]

[Shrieks] Jeez louise! That thing scared the dickens out of me! Ooh!

Abigail: Ugh. Statesville. Hello? Yeah, I’ll accept the charges.

Gwen: Abigail, I’m so glad you picked up.

Abigail: What do you want?

Gwen: I need to see you.

Abigail: Well, I don’t ever want to see you again.

Gwen: Look, I know that you hate me, but I’m hoping you’ll still come to see me today anyway. Please, it’s extremely important. With relapsing forms of ms,

Lucas: Hey, can I get a refill?

Clyde: Oh, sorry, man, I’m just about to take my lunch break. Care to join me?

Lucas: No. No, I don’t drink. But I thought that was you. I thought I saw you sneaking around the kitchen last night. I said to myself, “no way clyde weston works here, no way.”

Clyde: Well, gainful employment is a condition of my parole, and roman needed a cook.

Lucas: He couldn’t find someone more qualified to fill the position? He had to pick someone who terrorized the whole damn town?

Clyde: Nah, that’s all behind me. I’m a family man now. And from what I can tell, so are you. Saw you in here with your daughter last night.

Lucas: Yeah, that’s right. You can stay the hell away from allie, all right?

Clyde: No, no, I just meant to say that I couldn’t help but overhear part of your conversation. Sounds like you had a little dustup with ej dimera.

Lucas: Yeah, I did. What’s it to you?

Clyde: [Laughs] I ain’t defending the guy. In fact, you might say that any enemy of ej’s is a friend of mine.

Lucas: Really? Why would you say that? You had a problem with ej?

Ej: It seems the morning is quickly getting away from us.

Belle: Yeah, you know, I should get out of your hair. I’m sure you have a busy day.

Ej: Not as busy as I’d like since gabi is still in charge of dimera.

Belle: Ah. Yeah, I can’t believe your sister voted to retain her as ceo.

Ej: And chad and I have no intention of letting that stand, believe me.

Belle: Good. Well, maybe we can strategize about gabi and clyde weston?

Ej: You haven’t told anyone, have you?

Belle: What, that clyde weston had his sidekick shoot you, leave you for dead, and then let everyone believe some random mugger did it? No, I haven’t told anyone.

Ej: Good, because as I’ve told you, turning in clyde isn’t an option.

Belle: I know. I understand.

Ej: But I do have a plan to exact my revenge.

Belle: Yeah, so you say. But I think you should scrap that plan and let me come up with a way to bring clyde to justice legally.

Ej: Of course, of course. Tell you what. Since you’ve missed out on breakfast, perhaps we can scare you up some lunch.

Belle: Or we could call it brunch, and I could try that steak and eggs after all.

Ej: You won’t regret it.

[Soft dramatic music]

Marlena: Belle and I had a bit of a problem last night.

Jan: Oh, dear. Not about me, I hope.

Marlena: Yes, in fact, it was. Belle found out that I was treating her, and she was upset, and she didn’t come home last night.

Shawn: Where did she go, the salem inn?

Marlena: Uh, no. Actually, she spent the night at the dimera mansion.

Shawn: I got to go.

Marlena: Wait, shawn, wait!

Kate: Did we not just have a conversation about this where I said “do not say anything about the kidnapping?” And then you tell your wife?

Chad: I didn’t have a choice.

Kate: Don’t give me that. Don’t give me that. This is all about your guilt over the fact that you let your brother take the blame for a crime he didn’t commit, and then, what, it doesn’t matter at all what happens to lucas?

Chad: It’s not like that.

Kate: Okay, okay. So why don’t you tell me what it’s like then, why you would do something so incredibly stupid?

Chad: Because abby wanted to find out who really kidnapped sami. She wanted to make it her next investigative piece.

Kate: Okay. Why didn’t you just talk her out of it, chad?

Chad: I tried, but she refused to let it go. And then one of her leads panned out, she was able to track down the other henchman that lucas hired to kidnap sami.

Kate: The one who left town?

Chad: Yeah. He was arrested in wisconsin, unrelated charges. Abby had planned to go to milwaukee today to talk to him. I wasn’t gonna let her just leave the state to go find out the truth when I could tell her myself.

Kate: You just don’t know that she was going to find out the truth.

Chad: The guy was gonna talk, kate.

Kate: No. You don’t know that. You don’t know that he would open his mouth. Why did you?

[Scoffs]

Gwen: Abigail, please, I’m begging you. Can you please come out here today? I never would’ve phoned you, I promise. I never would’ve if it wasn’t really urgent.

Susan: Oh.

Gwen: H– hello?

[Sighs]

Susan: You didn’t say goodbye.

Abigail: [Sighing] Hmm. No, I didn’T.

Susan: May I ask who was on the horn?

Abigail: It was my sister, gwen. She wants me to come down and visit her in the prison, says it’s important.

Susan: It’s a good thing you put the kibosh on it. I wasn’t getting a good feeling.

Abigail: No, neither was I, but I never do with her. Damn it.

Susan: What? What’s wrong?

Abigail: She’s just– she’s in my head now, and I can’t help wondering what it is she wanted.

Susan: [Spluttering] You’re not gonna go down there, are you? Remember, curiosity killed the kitty cat.

Abigail: Well, then I guess it’s a good thing I’m not a “kitty cat.”

Susan: Oh, yeah, that’s what they all say.

Marlena: Shall we begin?

Jan: We shall. Can I ask you just a– a very quick question first?

Marlena: Go on.

Jan: Are belle and ej officially together now?

Marlena: Jan, if you’re not gonna be serious about this, I will not be treating you.

Jan: Oh, no, no, I am very serious. I just–it’s what you said before about belle spending the night at the dimera’S. I assumed she’s with ej, and so I was just curious how you felt about it.

Marlena: This conversation is about you, not about me, and certainly not about belle. Do you understand?

Jan: Yes. Forgive me, I’m just a little nervous. I just really need this to work, so I can be a good mother to my baby.

Marlena: Is that the reason you’re doing this?

Jan: Of course. I told you that. I thought you believed me.

Marlena: Well, I’d like to, but a part of me is afraid this might be a performance on your part, that you might be pretending to want therapy in order to appease shawn. And of course using me in the meantime to further that relationship.

Jan: No. I’m doing this for myself and for my baby. That is it. I swear, no other reason.

Marlena: Given your obsession with shawn and your attempts to try to break up shawn and belle, you can understand why I might be a little reluctant to believe you.

Jan: I do. But I can assure you, dr. Evans, that is over.

Marlena: All right. Well, if I see any sign at all that you are up to your old tricks, these sessions will end.

Jan: There will be no signs, I promise. All I want is to get better, just like ben weston did. And he told me that being in therapy with you was what really helped him more than anything.

Marlena: Ben’s worked very hard.

Jan: Right. And he explained to me that in order to get past the terrible things he did, he had to face them head-on.

Marlena: That’s true. And it wasn’t just a matter of ben thinking about what he had done. He had to think about how he’d hurt people. He had to empathize with them. He had to feel their pain. Are you willing to do that?

Jan: Yes. I’m more than willing to–

[Cries out]

Marlena: What is it?

Jan: Oh!

Marlena: What’s wrong? Jan–

Jan: I’m feeling their pain, and mine too. Oh, god! Oh, god!

Ej: [Clears throat] Uh, mother?

Susan: Huh?

Ej: Mother.

Susan: Oh, what? Oh, you don’t–don’t mind me. I’m just–I’m feeling for tooth fairy vibes.

Ej: Naturally.

Susan: Now, belle, I understand that you stayed over last night.

Belle: Uh, yes. I–how did you know that?

Susan: Oh, it wasn’t premonition, I can tell you that, but no, it was harold. Harold told me. Wh–ooh. Hoo. Ah, sheesh. I’m sorry, just getting–

Ej: Now what? Mother, what are you doing?

Susan: I’m sensing something. Just hold on.

Belle: Tooth fairy vibes?

Susan: Oh, no.

[Laughing] A different kind! Whoo!

Ej: And what kind is that?

Susan: The kind that tells me that something is going on between the two of you. Is there something going on between the two of you?

Shawn: You know, I’d like to know the answer to that myself.

Chad: Yeah, you’re right. I should’ve just stood by and done nothing while my wife went off to confront a violent felon about his role in a criminal conspiracy. What was I thinking, putting a stop to that?

Kate: Okay, okay. I get your point.

Chad: Thank you.

Kate: Don’t thank me yet though because I am going to need assurances that she doesn’t tell a soul.

Chad: She won’T.

Kate: All right, I– that’s not enough.

Chad: Kate, I need you to trust me on this.

Kate: Well, I need more then.

Chad: Like what? What, do you want me to have my wife sign a nondisclosure agreement?

Kate: Hm.

Chad: I was joking.

Kate: Well, I’m not joking, because it’s about lucas’ freedom. He could go to prison, chad.

Chad: For the last time, abby is not gonna say anything to anyone.

Kate: How do you know that?

Chad: Because she promised me she wouldn’T.

Gwen: Abigail. You came.

Abigail: Yeah, you know, it was the strangest thing. After I hung up on you, I realized I really did want to see you. I kind of missed you, gwen.

Gwen: Really?

Abigail: Of course not. What could I possibly miss about you? Your vicious lies? The endless number of ways you hurt people that I care about?

Gwen: Then why did you come?

Abigail: Because you said it was important. So I thought maybe you were gonna finally tell me what actually happened with my grandmother.

Gwen: That’s still eating away at you, is it?

Abigail: Whether or not you murdered her in cold blood? Yeah. It is, because I, unlike you, have some sense of humanity and decency.

Gwen: Well, sorry, sis, this isn’t about laura. It’s about somebody else who’s very, very important to you, someone that I’m sure you would not want to get hurt.

Abigail: I have zero interest in playing games, gwen. So tell me why I’m here or I’m gone.

Gwen: It’s about jack.

Abigail: What did you do to my father?

Gwen: Our father.

Abigail: What did you do?

Gwen: Oh, god, relax.

Abigail: Relax? You just– you just said he could get hurt.

Gwen: Yes, well, he can if he’s not properly celebrated.

Abigail: What?

Gwen: If I’m not mistaken, tomorrow is his birthday.

Abigail: And?

Gwen: Well, I can’t exactly throw him a party, can I? Or take him out for a nice meal. But I just–I– I want him to know how much I care for him and that I wish I could be with him and send him my love. So I made him a gift. And I’m hoping that you can deliver it to him.

Lucas: What’s your beef with ej?

Clyde: Did I say we had a beef?

Lucas: You implied you were enemies, so–

Clyde: Well, that’s probably too strong a word. See, I brought him a business proposition a little while ago, a very lucrative one. He turned me down cold, so I guess you could say I’m deeply disappointed.

Lucas: You’re tight enough with ej that you can pitch him business ideas?

Clyde: Well, we were cellmates at statesville for a while, got to know each other pretty well. That boy’s a talker, he is.

Lucas: Oh, I’ll bet. Bet he talked about himself the whole damn time, didn’t he?

Clyde: Actually, he talked a lot about you. He didn’t have a lot of nice things to say either.

Lucas: He talked about me? Why?

Clyde: He had to vent.

Lucas: About what?

Clyde: About your wife’s kidnapping. Wouldn’t shut up about it. Day and night, swore he was innocent. Said he shouldn’t be in prison. But that you should be… since you’re the one who really did it.

Belle: Shawn, what are you doing here?

Shawn: What, me? What are you doing here? Your mom said you stayed the night.

Belle: Well, she shouldn’t have; it’s not your concern.

Shawn: You’re my wife.

Belle: Well, we’re legally separated, so I’m under no obligation to tell you where I sleep, especially when you have a psychopath living in our house.

Susan: A psychopath?

Belle: Oh yeah. Jan spears. Haven’t you heard? She’s pregnant with shawn’s baby.

Shawn: It’s not what you think, okay? Look, belle, I know– I know that you’re upset.

Belle: No, I was fine until you barged in here and started interrogating me.

Shawn: Nobody is interrogating you. But, you know what, susan just asked a very good question. What’s up with you and ej?

Ej: You don’t have to answer him.

Shawn: Do you mind? I’m speaking to my wife here.

Susan: In my son’s house.

Ej: Thank you, mother, but I can handle this. You want to know what’s going on? Well, I’ll tell you. After a series of deeply upsetting events, belle needed a place to be to feel safe and comfortable. She chose to come here. And you’re welcome to stay for as long as you like. Now we were about to have brunch, so you can see yourself out.

Shawn: I was right.

Belle: About what?

Shawn: About why you wanted to get separated. You said that this had nothing to do with you and ej. And then five minutes after I sign those papers, boom, you move in with him.

Belle: I did not move in with him; I’m just staying here.

Shawn: Oh, are you seriously trying to argue semantics, counselor? Belle, you and I both know damn well what’s going on here.

Belle: Nothing is going on here except me trying to find a place I can stay where I don’t feel betrayed and/or insulted!

Shawn: Oh, and you sure figured that out, didn’t you? Oh, or maybe ej figured that out. Oh, and I’m sure that he is so pleased with himself, ’cause I know that he’s been trying to steal you from me for a while now. And you know what? He succeeded.

Belle: Shawn, you are so wrong.

Shawn: No, I–no, I am right on the money. Come on, let’s face it. All right, you go from– from working with him to living with him, and now? And now you’re sleeping with him, aren’t you?

Jan: Ah! Oh, god, it hurts! It really hurts!

Marlena: Can you describe the pain?

Jan: It’s terrible pain. Like nothing I’ve ever felt before. Help me, please.

Marlena: Jan, try to stay calm.

Jan: How can I stay calm? Dr. Evans, I think I’m in labor.

Gwen: I made it in art therapy. Look, it says “dad” right there.

Abigail: [Laughing]

Gwen: Really? Really, you’re laughing?

Abigail: It’s just so pathetic.

Gwen: Will you give it to jack or not?

Abigail: Why don’t you just mail it to him?

Gwen: Mail it to him from here? Really? It would take months if I did that. Or he might not even get it at all.

Abigail: Something tells me he might be okay with that.

Gwen: Look, it might not be a cashmere sweater or a gold watch, but this was the best that I could do, okay? And jack has been very kind to me. He’s gotten justin to help reduce my sentence. So I just–I just want to show him my gratitude.

Abigail: Well, you know, you could always try not committing more crimes or not being the biggest bitch who ever lived.

Gwen: My god, you are doing this all just to punish me, aren’t you? You want our dad to think that I forgot about his birthday while you, what, get to all celebrate together in the horton house?

Abigail: Dad’s in boston.

Gwen: Oh. Well then, you being the perfect, lovely, great daughter of his then aren’t you gonna go fly out there and be with him on his birthday?

Abigail: You know, actually, I was thinking about flying up there to surprise him.

Gwen: Well, that’s great then. You can just put my gift in your carry-on bag, can’t you? Look, I know you hate me. But jack doesn’T. And he’s all I have left. So it would absolutely mean the world to me if you could just please just do this one favor for me. Please give him the mug.

Abigail: Okay. Yeah, fine. I’ll take your mug.

Gwen: Thank you.

[Tense music]

Abigail: Whoops.

Kate: Okay, so abigail promised you that she wouldn’t say anything. Why didn’t you tell me that right away?

Chad: Look, she hates lying. But in this case, she understands that it’s for the greater good. She doesn’t want to destroy my relationship with ej, and she doesn’t want to send her uncle lucas to prison. She knows it would destroy her mother.

Kate: Well, I mean, that’s an assurance, but it’s not a guarantee, right?

Chad: Well, it’s as close as you’re going to get.

Kate: Oh, my god.

Chad: You’re lucky I told you. I didn’t even have to.

Kate: Why did you tell me, chad?

Chad: Why else? Because I’m an amazing guy, heart’s as big as all outdoors.

Kate: Actually, that’s true, you know.

Chad: Yeah, right.

Kate: No, it is. I know that I’ve given you a number of reasons not to give a damn about me and, well, it seems like that you still do.

Chad: Yeah, I do. And I know this involves your child, and I can relate to that, so I want you rest assured you don’t have to worry about lucas. Okay?

Lucas: Ej told you I kidnapped sami, huh?

Clyde: Oh, yeah. Said it was a frame job. No doubt about it in his mind.

Lucas: Well, you know what? I’m not surprised, because when a person can’t live with their own guilt, they project their feelings onto others. So, you know.

Clyde: You could always sue him for slander. That is, if what he says is not true.

Lucas: I’m not taking ej to court. I don’t need that messy court battle. Plus, I don’t need the money right now anyway.

Clyde: Hm. Must be nice. You know that business opportunity I mentioned earlier, might be a blessing that ej turned me down.

Lucas: Why’s that?

Clyde: ‘Cause I think you’d be a much better partner.

Jan: [Groaning] Oh, god! This is the worst. Please help me.

Marlena: Okay, well, just try to stay calm. We’ll figure out what we’re dealing with. That’s good.

Jan: [Groaning]

Belle: I am not sleeping with ej. I’m sleeping by myself in a guest room. And the only reason I am is because I can’t spend another night at my mom’S.

Shawn: Okay, look, I get that you’re upset with marlena. But belle, you could’ve gone to the salem inn. You could’ve gone to any hotel. You knew that coming here would send a message.

Belle: Oh, well, I’m sorry I wasn’t really thinking about messaging. I was too busy dealing with the shock of being utterly betrayed by my entire family!

Shawn: Oh, belle, come on! Everybody is on your side. You’ve got to know that.

Belle: Oh, really? How would I know that? I mean, I was already living my worst nightmare. You know, the woman who has been terrorizing me for decades is having my husband’s baby and living in my house. And now my mom wants to be her therapist. And my husband and my father just go along with it.

Shawn: Jan needs help. She needs it. And if she doesn’t get it, that innocent baby is gonna suffer. Look, as hard as it is, I’m praying–I’m praying that your mom succeeds– for everyone’s sake.

Susan: And she will, she will. Dr. Marlena can work miracles. Okay, I’m sorry. It’s none of my business.

Belle: All right, fine. Let’s look at a fantasy future where jan is all better and isn’t a homicidal maniac anymore. What then? What? We’re all just gonna live happily ever after?

[Cell phone ringing] I’m sure that’s her now.

Shawn: No, it’s actually your mother. When I left the house, they were just starting their first session.

Belle: Oh. Well, maybe she’s calling to say she’s all cured.

Shawn: Marlena, hey. What’s going on? Is everything okay? Yeah. Okay. Yeah, I’m on my way. Okay. All right. I got to go to the hospital.

Belle: What? Why? What’s wrong?

Shawn: Jan’s in labor. We women are in the know about everything.

Clyde: You know that opportunity I mentioned. It’s very lucrative. You put a little money in, you take a whole lot out. You interested?

Lucas: I’d say there’s no way this opportunity is legal. So I’d like to stay out of prison.

Clyde: So far, so good, huh?

Lucas: Sorry, what was that?

Clyde: I’m just saying that if you change your mind, you know where to find me. And I got to say, if ej were going around saying that I’d committed a crime and I didn’t, I wouldn’t be too happy about it.

Lucas: I’m not happy about it either, but there’s nothing I can do.

Clyde: Oh, there’s always something you can do. You might just need a little help doing it. So who knows? Maybe we could help each other.

Lucas: Maybe.

Clyde: You think about it.

Gwen: What the hell did you just do that for?

Abigail: You should be thanking me; I put that thing out of its misery.

Gwen: That thing was a gift for our father, and you just deliberately destroyed it.

Abigail: You destroy everything that you touch! You hardly have a right to complain!

Gwen: What is wrong with you?

Abigail: With me? Are you joking? You tried to ruin my life! And when it didn’t work, you decided to torment me forever about the death of my grandmother! And you have the audacity to ask me for a favor?

Gwen: You didn’t have to bloody break it!

Abigail: Honey, you’re lucky that’s all I broke.

Gwen: It’s okay. I’ll just make another one.

Abigail: Great. Make a whole damn set. Lord knows you’re gonna have plenty of time for it.

Gwen: You selfish bitch! I am going to make you pay for this!

Abigail: Hm. Mm-hmm.

[Laughs]

Belle: Did he just say jan’s in labor?

Ej: I’m so sorry, belle.

Susan: I think I’m gonna shove off now.

Ej: What do you have planned for today, mother?

Susan: Uh, nothing.

Ej: Then you should join us for brunch.

Susan: Uh, no, thank you.

Ej: Not hungry?

Susan: Oh, no, I’m–I’m as hungry as a horse. It’s just I don’t want to be the third wheel on the buggy, if you catch my drift. Oh, elvis, I–I’d like to remind you of something, you know, the same thing that that dreamy detective reminded you of before. Huh? Belle brady– you know, mrs. Belle brady here, is still married, and you are still married to her sister. And I know, I know–I know your samantha has moved on, but I don’t think you have, son. And I am not the teensiest bit convinced that you are over her. So there. So.

[Playful music]

Shawn: Yeah, that’s right, ms. Spears didn’t violate the terms of her arrest. Her ankle monitor went off because she was admitted to the hospital. I’m on my way to see her right now. Yeah. Yes, I will– yes, I’ll clear everything up with her probation officer as soon as possible. All right. Thanks. Where’s jan?

Marlena: She’s just been admitted. She’s in a room up the hall.

Shawn: Okay. Thanks. With depression, you just feel…blah.

Kate: Lucas? What the hell are you doing?

Belle: [Sighs] God. No matter how hard I try to wrap my head around it, I just– I just can’t believe that jan is at the hospital right now about to deliver my husband’s baby.

Ej: It does seem as though you just learned she was pregnant.

Belle: Yeah. I’ve known longer than I’d like. But she went into labor a lot sooner than she was supposed to. This baby’s gonna be very premature.

Ej: Well, then, maybe there’s a bright side. Maybe this child won’t survive.

Jan: Shawn, thank god you came.

Shawn: Yeah. Of course I did.

Jan: It’s too soon. The baby can’t come yet.

Shawn: Look, it’s okay, all right? The doctors are gonna take good care of you.

Jan: And what if something happens? I already love this baby more than anything in the world. And I’m scared. I’m so scared, shawn.

Shawn: Everything’s gonna be all right, all right? I’m here. I’m right here.

Chad: So gwen asked you to bring a mug to your father, and you smashed it to bits?

Abigail: I dropped it. You know me. Butter fingers. It was an accident.

Chad: Really?

Abigail: Nope. Nope, did it on purpose. Gwen was not too happy about it. In fact, I would say she was positively horror-struck.

Chad: I bet. What’d she say?

Abigail: Only that she would, wait for it, “make me pay.”

Gwen: [Breathing heavily] It’s gwen. Who else would be bloody phoning you from prison? Look, I need to talk to you about abigail. If I don’t get to spend my father’s birthday with him, then neither does she.

Leo: Hello, sonny.

Abigail: That’s great. Thank you. Yeah. Thank you so much. Hi, so, um, I just got some great news.

Chad: You’re pregnant?

Abigail: No, no. Not yet. No. We’re gonna have to keep trying.

Chad: Well, it’s better than digging ditches. So what’s the great news?

Abigail: Well, you know, I’ve been working on sami’s kidnapping story, and I finally have a solid lead. I think I’m actually getting close to who’s actually behind it all.

Marlena: Belle, I know you’re upset with me, but please call me. We have to talk about this.

[Knocking on door] Oh! Kate.

Kate: Hey.

Marlena: Hello.

Kate: So sorry just to drop in like this.

Marlena: No. I’m always glad to see you.

Kate: Okay. Did you know that will was going back to arizona today?

Marlena: Well, not that it was today, no. That seems rather sudden.

Kate: I know. Anyway, so roman and I are gonna throw him a little going away breakfast, and we were really hoping that you and john could come over.

Marlena: Oh. Well, john’s working, but– let me think, I–oh. I can make that. I’d be glad to be there.

Kate: Okay. Are you all right? You just don’t seem quite like yourself.

Marlena: Oh. I’m a little worried about belle.

Kate: Yeah. Yeah, I heard that she and shawn are having problems.

Marlena: That’s putting it mildly.

Kate: So is she still staying here with you?

Marlena: Well, she was until last night, and then she got upset with us– she got upset with me, and stormed out and hasn’t come home.

Ej: [Chuckles] There’s that beautiful smile. What are you thinking?

Belle: I am thinking that this is the best I’ve felt in a long time and that–

Ej: That what?

Belle: That for the first time since shawn and i separated, as painful as it was, I feel like it happened for a reason.

Ej: Mm-hmm. So you and I could be together like this. And just so you know, when I said you could stay here last night, I swear I didn’t plan for you to wind up in my bed.

Belle: [Laughing] I didn’t either, but I’m glad I did. I’m really glad I did.

Both: Mm-hmm.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Roman: Hey. What happened to you?

Lucas: [Sighs] Ej dimera.

Belle: I can’t believe sami let you get away.

[Echoing] Ej. Ej?

Ej: Oh. [Grunts]

Belle: I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to wake you.

Ej: Oh, it’s okay. I should have been up an hour ago. Did you sleep okay?

Belle: Yeah. I slept fine. Um, since I didn’t make it to my parents last night, I was wondering if you thought abigail might have some clothes?

Ej: I have a better idea. I’ll lend you a robe to wear down to breakfast, and we’ll have harold send for your things.

Belle: Oh. No. I’ve, um–I’ve already been too much of an imposition.

Ej: Belle, don’t you know you could never be an imposition?

Sonny: Will. Will, are you okay? You drugged him too, didn’t you?

Leo: I didn’t need to drug him. He couldn’t wait to get out of your bed and into mine.

Sonny: But this is my bed.

Leo: Not anymore. Right, pookie?

Will: Yes, pookie.

Sonny: Ah! Oh.

Will: What? What? What’s wrong?

Sonny: Oh, my god.

[Panting] Oh, my god. I just had the most awful dream that I walked in on you and leo having–in bed together.

Will: I’m sorry. Yeah. That qualifies as a nightmare. Sonny, that’s all it was though. It was just a dream, okay? It’s obviously never gonna happen in real life.

Sonny: I know. I just– I never thought that would happen to me again too, so–

Will: He really did a number on you, didn’t he?

Sonny: I don’t know. I’ve been trying to let it go.

Will: Sonny, he drugged you, and he took degrading pictures of you. Of course you can’t just let it go. That’s gonna take time.

Sonny: I know.

Will: But you know, as crappy as it was, it didn’t– it didn’t change things, right? It didn’t change us.

Sonny: Well, I thank god for that. I just– I can’t help but think he’s not done getting revenge.

Will: Yeah. I know. I mean, he said himself that he had other fish to fry. He has a long list of people he blames for craig leaving him.

Sonny: Yeah. Everyone but himself.

Will: He published those pictures of chad, and he did the same to you. I wonder who he’s going after next?

[Cell phone rings]

Leo: Hello? Yes, I’ll accept the call. Guinevere, thank you for checking up on me. Thanks to your directions, I’ve been able to wend my way through these tunnels. I was very robert donat, very “prisoner of zenda.” Ah, you are a film illiterate. Well, it’s not the ritz, but it beats sleeping on a bench in prospect park. Plus, there are some very nice amenities here at chez dimera. And best of all, your sister is right upstairs.

Abigail: So you know how i said I was gonna find sami’s kidnapper by tracking down the other guy, the one who got away?

Chad: Right.

Abigail: Well, I thought it was gonna be like trying to find a needle in a haystack, but turns out the guy just got arrested in wisconsin on completely unrelated charges.

Chad: How in god’s name did you find that out?

Abigail: [Scoffs] I just–I realized that salem pd stopped looking for him as soon as ej was released. And I reached out to this contact I have in milwaukee to help me track wisconsin arrest reports, and– it was a total long shot, and it paid off. This right here, this is where you would say, “hey, great work, abigail.” And then you’d compare me

Chad: No, it’s–it was grt. You–you found him. But was it worth it?

Abigail: Excuse me?

Chad: I mean, abby, do you really think that this guy’s gonna tell you a different story than the other guy, the one who testified that ej was the one that hired him?

Abigail: I don’t know. I guess I’ll find out. I’m going to milwaukee today.

Chad: No you’re– no you’re not. No matter who you are,

Marlena: So when belle heard that I had agreed to treat jan, she became furious, and she took off.

Kate: [Scoffs] Well, do you blame her? I mean jan is pregnant, and belle’s husband is the father of the baby. For years, jan has tried to kill belle. I mean, most recently, she kidnapped her daughter.

Marlena: I know all that. I do know all about all that, but truth of the matter is that, no matter what jan has done, she does deserve to get good mental health care.

Kate: Well, yeah. But it doesn’t mean that you have to be the provider. I mean, I think this would be the perfect time to make a referral to another qualified professional who perhaps doesn’t have personal ties to the fruitcake who’s trying to ruin your daughter’s life.

Marlena: Maybe so, but I am uniquely qualified to treat jan, and maybe if I can do that, maybe I can end this reign of terror she has against my daughter.

Kate: So you want this more than anything.

Marlena: Oh, I do.

Kate: Hm. Good luck. Although I have to say I think moses leading his people into the promised land was probably easier than you trying to lead jan to mental health.

[Cell phone beeps]

Marlena: Oh. It’s from belle.

Kate: Maybe she stayed with shawn last night.

Marlena: No. She’s with ej.

Kate: [Huffs] Really? I mean, I know that’s none of my business, but do you think something’s going on between those two?

Belle: Okay, I just texted my mom to let her know I’m here so she doesn’t worry. Hopefully, they don’t come storming the gates trying to rescue me.

Ej: You’re a grown woman. You’d think they’d respect your wishes.

Belle: Yeah, you’d think they would, but they don’T. Probably because I’ve been such a constant disappointment to them.

Ej: What? Belle, how could you say that? You’re a successful lawyer. You’re a wonderful wife and mother.

Belle: Oh, please. You know that people can look good on paper, but when you learn about how they got where they are and all of the mistakes they made along the way…

Ej: You mean to tell me you’ve made mistakes? Well, I’m shocked.

Belle: Well, you might be if I actually told you about all of them.

Ej: No, I’m sure I would not be, because I know you as an exceptionally smart, caring, and honest person whom I greatly admire and is too hard on yourself.

Belle: Well, thank you for saying that, but from my parents’ perspective, I think that they haven’t really approved of all the decisions that I’ve made. Like, for example, how I handled my daughter’s mental illness.

Ej: You couldn’t have handled it too poorly. Claire’s doing very well now, from what you’ve told me.

Belle: Oh, yeah. No. She is. Thank god. But I don’t give myself credit for that. You know, I was really in denial for a long time, and I think– I think that caused her and a lot of other people a lot of pain. And I think my mom still holds that against me.

Ej: There you go being hard on yourself again. And do you really think your mother holds that against you, that you didn’t have all the answers in a very terribly difficult situation?

Belle: I don’t know, okay? I just worry that she doesn’t think that I’m capable of making good decisions. And that is why I am here looking so sloppy.

Ej: No, you look beautiful as always.

Belle: Well, it’s definitely not how I want to look when I go crawling back to my parents.

Ej: I’ll ask abigail to loan you something.

Belle: Would you? That would be great. Thank you.

Ej: But first, I would like to ask you a question.

Belle: Okay.

Ej: Belle, do you really want to go back to your parents?

Roman: So you and ej got into it? Couldn’t have possibly been about sami, could it?

Lucas: Ej still thinks that I’m the one who kidnapped her. He’s still pushing that big lie, which is ludicrous, because everybody knows he did it.

Roman: Charges against him were dropped.

Lucas: Yeah, ’cause he’s a dimera, and dimeras don’t ever pay for anything they do. You know that. I mean, what I don’t get is, now that he’s gotten away with it, why doesn’t he just let the matter drop?

Roman: If he got away with it.

Lucas: I think he got away with it; he’s a free man.

Roman: Yeah, but I’m not sure it was ej to start with. I still have a lot of unanswered questions about what actually happened.

Leo: Ugh, can you hear my stomach growling out there in statesville? I need some breakfast to go with this fine bottle of champagne. Mm, I don’t know how long I’m gonna be here. I’m still working out my plan. But when I am through, chad will know exactly how I felt when I lost the love of my life.

Abigail: What do you mean, “no, you’re not going?” Please tell me that was not an order. Please tell me you’re not telling me not to do my job.

Chad: Okay. I’m–I’m sorry. That came out the wrong way. How about–look, how about– can we just talk about it, because I’m worried about you?

[Tense music]

Look, I just got you back from kristen, and now you want to track down some guy who kidnaps women for a living, and for what? The story’s old news. Ej’s out of jail. Sami is out of town. Nobody really cares who kidnapped sami, and ej just wants to move past it all.

Abigail: Has it ever occurred to you that if ej’s innocent that sami could still be in danger?

Chad: Lucas found her months ago, and nothing has happened. And like, what, you’re gonna put your life on the line for a chance at, like, maybe–

Abigail: I’m going to a supervised visitation procedure at a police station. It’s hardly putting my life on the line.

Chad: What if the real kidnapper finds out?

Abigail: Okay. Great. We’re in agreement. Whoever hired these goons could be dangerous.

Chad: Oh–you’re relentless.

Abigail: I am. Yes. And besides, don’t you want to clear ej’s name?

Chad: Yeah, but–

Abigail: Okay, look. You’re not gonna talk me out of this; I’m going to milwaukee. I’m going today. I’m gonna find out the truth.

Chad: Wait. St–just– okay, just listen. Okay, look, you don’t have to go anywhere to find out who really kidnapped sami. I know. It was lucas. With relapsing forms of ms,

Will: Okay, so we know leo’s gonna go after brady and chloe, right, and god knows who else. But the good thing is, the more people he goes after, the more likely it is that he’ll get caught.

Sonny: Well, I don’t know about that. I mean the drugs he gave me were completely out of my system by the time I took my blood test. You know, I–gosh. I just–I hate the way he gets away with things. That’s why I think I went so crazy when I found out about craig wesley, you know. I couldn’t stand him doing what he did to me to someone else and just getting away with it.

Will: Well, he didn’t get away with it, right? You saw to that. You rounded up your band of merry men and women, and set out to free craig wesley and, by god, you freed craig wesley.

Sonny: Now I just got to free myself. I got to get this little creep out of my head.

Will: I think I can help with that.

[Tender music]

Leo: [Sighs] I don’t suppose door dart delivers to secret dungeons when they could barely find craig’s room at the salem inn. I guess I’ll have to go hunt down my own breakfast.

Thomas: Who are you? And what are you doing in my house?

Kate: I don’t know. I mean, don’t you think it’s telling that, of all the people belle knows in salem, she went to ej’s last night?

Marlena: No. No. Belle and ej work together.

Kate: Ah. A business sleepover.

Marlena: They’re only friends, kate.

Kate: Mm-hmm. Well, from what I know of ej, he doesn’t have friends. Predators seldom do.

Marlena: No, trust me. I–I do know that. But belle is in no mood for any kind of advice from either one of her parents.

Kate: Ugh. It would be so much more simple if children just did what their parents said.

Marlena: I can’t even imagine how sami would react if she thought that ej was going after her sister.

Kate: Well, why would she even care? I mean, she’s with lucas now, and they’re very happy.

Marlena: Well, yes. I know they’re happy together, but it would still drive her over the edge if she thought that ej was pursuing her sister, even though ej had kidnapped her, and she was afraid for her life.

Kate: Indeed.

Marlena: I will forever be grateful to lucas for rescuing her from those kidnappers and for the friendship they’ve had all these years, through thick and thin, good and bad, up and down, ever since they were teenagers.

Kate: Yeah. Well, onward and upward, right? Let’s get over to the pub. What do you say?

Marlena: Let’s go.

Kate: Okay.

Belle: No. No. I don’t want to go back to my parents, but I also don’t want to hurt them. You know, they’ve been through a lot too. I just think right now I need to take care of myself and preserve my sanity as much as I can.

Ej: Absolutely none of my business, but I think that’s the right way to go.

Belle: Yeah, it’s the only way to go. So I think I’ll just do what everyone else in salem does when their life falls apart, and I’ll go get a room at the salem inn. I hear they have a very good rate for losers.

Ej: You’re not a loser, belle. You’re a strong woman who’s been put in an impossible position. You’re regrouping.

Belle: Ah. Euphemism for “falling apart.”

Ej: Well, given that your marriage has fallen apart, and in a very unexpected and painful way, I see someone who is dealing with an impossible situation with a great deal of dignity, character. You’re a lot stronger than you think.

Belle: Well, I guess I feel a lot stronger when I know you see me that way.

Ej: I always have.

Belle: Well, in spite of that, you definitely don’t need this, you know, some random, heartbroken woman showing up on your doorstep.

Ej: Damn it, belle. You are not some random, heartbroken woman. You are my friend. Now, I can’t change what’s happened to you. I can’t make your husband stand up to that lunatic woman, and I can’t put that lunatic back in the asylum. But what I can offer you is a guest bedroom, privacy, autonomy, and time to think. As much time as you need.

Belle: Okay.

Ej: Then it’s settled. I’ll tell harold to have your things brought here.

Belle: Ej, I–thank you.

Ej: Think nothing of it. And if you ever question the magnitude of what you’re dealing with, let me just say that this is the first time in my entire life that I have ever thought that this madhouse could be anyone’s oasis of calm.

Lucas: Well, what do you mean you have unanswered questions? Like what?

Roman: Well, like who framed ej by planting those phony transactions on dimera computers? And why bother to frame him if he actually was guilty? I mean it’s usually innocent people who get framed.

Lucas: Do you think ej’s innocent?

Roman: He’s not usually, but in this case, the cop part of me says it just doesn’t add up.

Lucas: Well, the guy who held sami captive said that ej hired him, so for me, that’s pretty much all the proof I need. You know, and now that ej’s got a walk, I’m gonna make sure he stays away from sami for good.

Roman: Okay, if you need help with that, let me know. I may not be sure that ej kidnapped sami, but I’m damn sure he is a creep.

Lucas: Well, amen to that. Thank you. So, uh, roman–

Roman: So, uh, lucas?

Lucas: Um, well, sami and I, you know, over the years, you know, through all the weddings and the divorces– I just want to make sure that I get things right from the start this time.

Roman: Uh, good idea.

Lucas: Right, so, um, I’m asking your permission to marry sami.

Abigail: You’re telling me that it was lucas who kidnapped sami? No. No, no, no. Dimeras kidnap people, but not hortons.

Chad: It’s the truth.

Abigail: How can it be? Why would lucas kidnap sami?

Chad: To keep sami from going back to ej.

Abigail: You’re sure?

Chad: I caught him planting fake financial reports on my computer to frame ej. And then he–lucas basically admitted everything and begged me to keep my mouth shut, to let ej take the fall.

Abigail: And you just went along with it?

Chad: Well, I didn’t want lucas to go to prison, and ej wasn’t exactly my favorite person at that time.

Abigail: Wait a–okay. Wait. So that was months ago. You’ve known all this time?

Chad: There were so many times that I wanted to tell you the truth. And I knew that ej could go to prison for years for something that he didn’t do. I was gonna come clean about everything, testify at the trial.

Abigail: But then you thought that he kissed me at the courthouse, so you kept your mouth shut and watched as he was shipped off to prison.

Chad: And then I found out that it wasn’t him, so I was going to come forward again. But then belle got the charges dropped and got him out of prison, and then kate convinced me that lucas wasn’t a threat to sami. But since ej was released, telling the truth wasn’t gonna help anyone, but it would screw up my relationship with ej big time, probably permanently.

Abigail: I can’t believe this.

Chad: I’m sorry. And I know that I have no right to ask you this, but can you please keep this between us?

Ej: Keep what between you?

[Dramatic music]

Lucas: I know. You’re right. You’re right. She would. But this isn’t about you and sami. It’s more about you and me. Um, I was just wondering if it’s okay, you know, if, um, if you think I’m good enough for your daughter. I mean, your opinion matters to me, so.

Roman: Okay.

Lucas: And I know that my history isn’t the best in the world right now, so–

Roman: You mean you’ve screwed up a lot.

Lucas: Yeah. Yeah. You could say that.

Roman: Well, you have. But you’ve also been a great dad to will and allie, and you’ve been a really good friend to sami. And you know, I love sami very much, but you? You’re good for her. I think you understand her in a way that nobody else does. So yes. You do have my blessing.

Lucas: Thank you.

Roman: Just keep her safe, okay?

Lucas: I will.

Roman: And visit often.

Lucas: You got it.

Kate: Are we interrupting something?

Sonny: As much as I hate to leave, I think your family’s expecting us at the pub, like, now.

Leo: Who am I? I think the better question is who are you?

Leo: Well, young thomas, what are you doing down here all by yourself?

Thomas: My sister and I are playing hide-and-seek.

Chad: So belle, what are you doing here?

Ej: I’ve invited her to stay here with us for a while– in the guest room, of course.

Chad: That’s very hospitable of you.

Ej: It’s the least I can do after she helped me get out of prison on those false kidnapping charges.

Chad: Right.

Ej: Yeah, so what were you asking abigail to keep between the two of you?

Chad: It’s a private conversation.

Abigail: Oh, no, chad, I– I think we should tell him. We hit the bike trails every weekend

Roman: Uh, no, you’re not interrupting anything. Just guy talk.

Kate: Oh, yeah. What about those cubs?

Roman: Yeah, along those lines. Marlena, glad you could make it.

Marlena: Thank you for asking me.

Roman: Yeah, I was hoping that you’d bring john and belle along.

Marlena: John’s at work, and belle and I aren’t getting along right now.

Roman: Sorry to hear that.

Marlena: Yeah. Thank you. I’m actually a little bit worried that she and shawn might not be able to get through all this.

Roman: Come on. Look at lucas and sami. If they can get through what they’ve gotten through, then hope for everyone.

Kate: I know that you think you’ve worked everything out with sami, but–

Lucas: Don’t do it, all right. Don’t start in on her.

Kate: Okay, I’m not starting in on her. I’m starting in on you, because I know you think you’re going to just walk off into the sunset with her. And I’m telling you right now, if she finds out from anyone other than you that you’re the one who kidnapped her, there’s no coming back from that.

Lucas: Don’t you think I know that?

Thomas: How could you be the tooth fairy? Fairies are girls.

Leo: [Snorts] You have a lot to learn, kid. But you are a very lucky little boy. Nobody is supposed to see the tooth fairy. So now you get to keep a very big secret. You can’t tell anyone about me, especially not your parents. So can I count on you or not?

Abigail: Chad and I have decided to try to have another baby.

Belle: [Gasps]

Abigail: Yes. He wants to keep it between us. I’m excited to share it. Of course, you know, with any luck, everyone’s gonna know soon enough anyways.

Ej: Oh, that’s wonderful.

Belle: Aw, that’s some baby news I can actually be happy about.

Chad: Yeah.

Abigail: And chad wasn’t able to be present with my other pregnancies from the very beginning, so this is gonna be different. These days we just share everything.

Ej: Congratulations. I’m thrilled for the both of you.

Ej: That’s what it means to be a brother or sister. Hey, three months ago, chad and I wanted to kill each other, but now? We’re like– we’re like brothers.

Belle: It is good to see you two worked it out.

Ej: I don’t think it would be an overstatement to say that I was a real jerk when I came back to salem.

Belle: Yeah, I think chad might be the first to agree with that.

Ej: And now that he’s found some way to get over it, I’m gonna make sure that I don’t screw things up with him anymore.

Chad: Oh, I thought for a minute there that you were gonna tell ej everything.

Abigail: No. I mean, I felt like I had to say something, otherwise he was gonna think we were keeping secrets from him.

Chad: Which we were. I’m sorry for dragging you into this.

Abigail: I hate lying. But I think you’re right. I mean, I don’t want to mess up your relationship with ej. I don’t want lucas to go to prison. My mom would be crushed.

Kate: Okay, well, we’re gonna hold you to that, so.

[Cell phone beeps]

Lucas: What’s wrong?

Kate: Uh, I got to go.

Lucas: Everything okay?

Roman: Well, sorry we didn’t have more time together.

Will: I know. Yeah. I know I kind of blew into town, and now I’m blowing back out, but I promise I’m gonna come back soon.

Marlena: Allie told me that she had a very helpful conversation with you, so thank you for that.

Will: Oh, yeah. I mean, I was just trying to be there for her like you were there for me when I was figuring things out. I love you.

Marlena: Oh, darling.

Sonny: Well, I hate to cut the reunion short, but we should probably get going–

Leo: I was playing hide-and-seek with charlotte, and she never found me.

Jan: Wow. Super healthy. It’s just I was craving one of those fat, greasy burgers from the pub.

Shawn: What, so–what, so instead of folic acid and vitamins, you want grease and salt?

Jan: I’m sorry. I know you’re just looking out for the health of our baby.

Shawn: And I’m looking out for your health too, jan.

Jan: Really? Wonder what belle would think about that.

Ej: Why don’t you stay for dinner? We can talk, share a bottle of wine. Relax. You look like you could really use it.

Belle: Can I have another glass of wine? Actually, you know what, will you just bring the whole bottle over?

Ej: I heard you were back in town. How’s allie?

Johnny: I know I’m right. Which is why allie should bow out gracefully.

Lucas: I guess johnny confided in you about his renewed feelings for chanel.

Ej: Renewed? According to my son, he never stopped loving her.

Lucas: Well, too bad for your son. He dumped her, so chanel went to allie for comfort.

Ej: Do I need to point out that your daughter also broke chanel’s heart?

Lucas: Yeah, yeah. She was under supernatural influence at the time. Yeah.

Ej: Exactly. So as far as I’m concerned, the last half year is a wash. Which means the best thing for everyone would be for allie to step aside and give johnny and chanel a chance to rebuild their relationship.

Lucas: No way in hell that’s gonna happen. You’re delusional. My daughter is not gonna roll over for your son.

John: Hey, tink.

Belle: Dad, what are you doing here?

John: Well, I got your message that you wouldn’t be home for dinner. I just thought maybe you’d like a little company.

Marlena: Yes, I am.

Marlena: I’m afraid I can’t help you, jan.

Ej: So you’re encouraging your daughter to help herself to her brother’s wife?

Lucas: I encourage my daughter to follow her heart.

Ej: I don’t know why I should be surprised. It’s not like you value the sanctity of marriage.

Lucas: What are you talking about–sami and me being together? Because when you guys were together, you were estranged.

Ej: Samantha was my wife! In fact, she still is.

Lucas: Well, johnny and chanel aren’t married anymore.

Ej: So let the best twin win? Is that it?

Lucas: I think we both know who that is, don’t we?

Ej: Mm-hmm. It’s only a matter of time before I prove to samantha and everyone else in this town that you kidnapped her. And when I do that, there won’t be a rock big enough under which you can hide from my wrath.

Allie: I don’t understand your reasoning, johnny–why should I be the one to bow out?

Johnny: I’m sorry. Did you miss the part where I said that chanel was my wife?

Allie: Yeah, “was,” as in past tense. And I don’t know if I need to remind you, but chanel and I had feelings for each other long before she even knew who you were.

Johnny: Not strong enough to keep you from being with tripp.

Allie: Hey, don’t talk about him, okay? This has nothing to do with him!

Chanel: Enough! Will you guys stop talking about me like I’m not standing here and my opinion doesn’t matter?

Marlena: I’m sure you understand that I’m concerned that you’re pretending to want my help when, in fact, you’re just concocting a plan to hurt my daughter.

Jan: No! No, no. I swear that isn’t what’s happening here. I swear that I just want to be a good mom to my baby. I think you could really help.

Ej: I understand you’re standing up for your daughter. But there’s no way that chanel is going to pick a fragile woman-child over my red-blooded virile son.

Lucas: Fragile? Really? My daughter? My daughter has been through more in her young life than you and I could possibly fathom. She has tackled every challenge head on. And you know what, if you ask me, I’d say my daughter is twice as red-blooded and virile as johnny dimera will ever be.

Allie: The ball’s in your court, dupree.

Chanel: Oh, way to put a sister on the spot, horton.

Johnny: That’s not our intention.

Chanel: Oh, are you sure? Because that’s how it feels to me. And let me just say that the two of you “fighting” over me like some spoiled little kids and I’m some expensive-ass toy, it’s–it’s embarrassing, actually. I mean, are we not all grown up here? Are we not?

Allie: Most of us are.

Chanel: Look, I love you both, okay? And the three of us have been through some strange and pretty terrible times. So for you to ask me to choose between the two of you… I’m just not gonna do it.

Chanel: I don’t “have to” do anything, johnny dimera. And if you want to try to force me to make a choice, then I’ll tell you who I choose. I choose me, damn it!

Sarah: Okay. Well, I was gone out of your life for…a long time. And for most of that time, you believed that I had left you and, um, and I wasn’t coming back. I know you’re not a monk, xander, so if you dated other women–

Xander: There was only really…one woman. But we didn’t just date.

Lucas: You elitist jerk. You know what, I’d rather have horton blood coursing through my veins than dimera blood any day. And you know what, I know sami feels the same way. I’m sure of it.

Ej: And where is samantha anyway? Have you kidnapped her again?

Lucas: Not that it’s any of your business, but during our romantic ski getaway, she fell and broke her leg. She’s in the hospital.

Ej: Is she all right?

Lucas: She’s fine. She just can’t leave the italian alps. Doctors won’t let her.

Ej: Mm. Mm, no, of course not, no.

Lucas: What, do you think I’m making this up? You think I’m lying? I wouldn’t hurt her the way you do. I wouldn’t do that.

Ej: I was exonerated in samantha’s kidnapping. Someone framed me. But, of course, you know that, don’t you?

Belle: Yes, I have been spending some time with ej. He is my friend. And he is letting me use office space in his house.

John: So how do you think your sister would react to you getting close to her ex?

Belle: Yeah, well, she wasn’t too concerned about my feelings when she unleashed jan spears on my entire family.

Sarah: Tell me how it happened.

Xander: How what happened?

Sarah: How you fell in love with gwen.

Xander: Why does that matter?

Sarah: I need to know, xander.

Xander: All right. When I lost you, I lost hope. I…I was a drunken mess. If I–if I wasn’t at rock bottom, then I was very close. And jack was the only person who took pity on me. He gave me a place to stay and… gwen was staying there too.

Xander: Yeah. And we couldn’t stand each other at first. She was so impulsive and stubborn and her own worst enemy. And I don’t know, eventually we just came to realize that we were kindred spirits, fellow…pariahs. And jack was the only person in the whole town that believed in either of us.

Sarah: So your feelings for her must have been strong.

Xander: I came to realize, in your absence– and sure that you wanted nothing more to do with me– that gwen was the person I was meant to be with.

Sarah: [Sniffles] Okay, so…you said you were engaged, then, um… what happened? Did one of you call it off or–

Xander: Actually, we made it all the way to the altar.

Sarah: So why didn’t you get married?

Xander: Because I found out what she did. To you.

Chanel: Look, I’m glad you guys are solid, but I still need time to figure out who and what I want for my life.

Allie: I understand.

Johnny: Take your time.

Chanel: All right, I–i should get back to the bakery. I need to close up, so–

Allie: Okay.

Johnny: You’re back in the bakery, which means you’re spending all day with the woman that we’re both crazy about.

Allie: I’m back at the bakery because I love my job.

Allie: I thought we were not gonna let her get between us.

Johnny: And how do you suppose we do that?

Allie: Well, how about we start by heading over to the pub and splitting a plate of fries, all right, like we did when we were kids?

Marlena: Let me be very clear about something. This therapy is only on a trial basis. The moment I have any suspicion that you’re up to your old tricks or that you’re not taking it seriously, the sessions will end.

Jan: Understood. So should we get started?

Shawn: Jan, what are you doing?

Jan: Diving in. So how does this work? Do I just tell you about my childhood?

Marlena: I think we’ll start tomorrow.

John: I’m not worried about offending ej.

Marlena: Well, it seems to me that…

Belle: That would be offensive?

Marlena: Well, I was actually going to agree with you and say that it was pretty insensitive.

John: What do you say we change the subject here? How was your day, dear?

Marlena: Well, it’s been slightly stressful. But after consideration, I have come to the opinion that it is best for everyone, especially for shawn, if I go ahead and treat jan spears.

Sarah: So your fiancée at the time knew what kristen did to me?

Xander: Yes.

Sarah: And then she made sure that I got a double dose of the same drug?

Xander: She did. But then abigail exposed her at the wedding.

Sarah: That must have been quite a scene. And where’s gwen now?

Xander: She pled guilty and they sent her to statesville.

Sarah: Oh. You really know how to pick ’em.

Xander: I’m so sorry, sarah. If I’d known what she was up to… but the important thing is that you and I found our way back to each other, right? That’s what matters.

Belle: How could you, mom? How could you treat the woman who amongst many other horrible offenses just pretended to be me and got knocked up by my husband?

Marlena: All right. The reason that I’m treating jan is because I… I feel party responsible for what she did.

Belle: You did not wake her up from that coma.

John: Just try to see it from her perspective.

Belle: No! I’m so sick of being the reasonable one here when all you care about is sami. And now mom wants to take on jan spears as her new–new rehab-a-psycho pet project.

Marlena: That’s not fair.

Allie: Yeah, well, I’m just happy that we got here before the two of you killed each other. I mean, what was that about anyway?

Lucas: Your mother, of course.

Allie: What about her?

Lucas: Ej thinks that I’m the one who kidnapped your mother. I mean, can you believe that, the nerve of that guy?

Johnny: [Sighs] Uh, hold off on the wedding planning for now.

Ej: Why? Did chanel say she doesn’t want you back?

Johnny: Not exactly, but… she said she needs time to think.

Ej: What’s to think about? You were both in love before the devil got involved.

Johnny: Look, chanel asked allie and me to give her space, and that’s what I’m gonna do.

[Door opens]

Ej: Just be careful, son. Don’t lose out on the woman you want out of some misguided sense of loyalty.

[Laughter on tv]

Shawn: Oh! Ha ha. I see you liked it.

Jan: Not so much, honestly. But wanted to prove how serious I am about taking care of our baby’s body while working on my own body and my soul too.

Shawn: I appreciate that.

Jan: Shawn, I know this is gonna sound pollyanna, but I really think that my therapy with dr. Evans is gonna make me a better person.

Shawn: Well, if anybody can help you, it’s marlena. So I’m gonna take these and put them in the kitchen, and I’m gonna head to bed.

Jan: Okay.

Shawn: All right, let me know if you need anything else, okay?

Jan: I will. Shawn… thank you for everything.

Shawn: Good night, jan.

Jan: You hear that, little one? Your mommy and daddy are getting closer. Once marlena gives me a clean bill of health, well… who knows what can happen?

Marlena: We shouldn’t have let belle go like that. I’m gonna call her.

John: Oh, no, no. What’s the point? She is an inebriated grown woman who obviously is upset with both of us right now.

Marlena: Then I’m going to cancel jan’s sessions.

John: Doc, don’t do that. Please. Just trust your instincts. A sane, healthy jan is better for all of us. And as far as our daughter goes, she’s tough, she’s strong. She’s gonna get through this.

Marlena: I hope you’re right.

Johnny: Uh, I’m gonna head upstairs. I got a friend from ucla that sent me a script he wants me to read, so…

Ej: Good night, son.

Johnny: Good night, dad.

Ej: Mm-hmm.

Johnny: Belle.

Belle: Good night.

Ej: Are you all right?

Belle: Uh, no. I’m not.

Ej: What happened?

Belle: I just had a really big fight with my parents. Um…could I stay here tonight? In one of the guest rooms, I mean.

Ej: Of course you can. I’d love to have you.
