Shawn: Sorry, he’s–you know, he’s a little fussy.

Belle: Oh, no, no need to apologize, I remember when claire was that age. She was up like three or four times a night for the first year. I hope that won’t be the case with shawn christian.

Shawn: Yeah, well, we’re gonna see, I guess. I mean, last time, he only woke up once.

Belle: Oh, well, that’s good. I didn’t have a chance to tell you before, but I’m really gladyou got to bring him home.

Shawn: So am I. Look, thank you. Thank you for coming over.

Belle: Yeah, no problem. What did you want to talk about?

Shawn: I wanted to apologize.

Evan: Dad, the governor’s press conference just ended. It’s official. We’ve been granted pardons.

Orpheus: No thanks to you.

Evan: Look, I know I shouldn’t have told kristen dimera our plan, but it all turned out okay in the end, right? We’re all three getting out of here.

Orpheus: Barely, the governor was none too pleased by kristen’s special requests. That woman nearly tanked the entire deal.

Gwen: What happened to you?

Kristen: [Chuckles] I used the concrete wall as a punching bag. I don’t recommend it.

Gwen: Duly noted. Guess you’re having a bad day.

Kristen: Mm, I was, I was. But things are starting to look up.

Xander: Don’t worry, maggie. It’ll all be straightened out. Sarah will be just fine. I promise. Listen, I’ve got to go. I’ll keep you posted. Oi, commissioner! You need to let sarah out of here immediately. This is all terribly unfair.

Rafe: Oh, calm down, xander. We just need to ask her a few questions, that’s all.

Xander: Oh, and that couldn’t wait until after we finished our wedding? Your newbie detective came crashing in right in the middle of our ceremony and treated my bride like a common criminal. And my god, as if sarah would even ever say a harsh word to her cousin abigail, let alone murder her.

Rafe: Well, right now, sarah is just a person of interest. That’s all.

Xander: Whatever you want to call it, rafe, she shouldn’t be talking to the cops without a lawyer.

Rafe: Well, she insisted she didn’t need one. That decision is hers to make.

Xander: I just hope she doesn’t end up regretting that decision.

Jada: As I told you earlier, an eyewitness placed you at the scene of the dimera estate the night abigail dimera was killed.

Sarah: I know that you couldn’t tell me earlier, but now it’s just the two of us, can you tell me who the witness was?

Jada: It was lucas horton.

Sarah: I see.

Jada: But before we get into the night in question, I wanted to ask you something that you mentioned at your mother’s house.

Sarah: Yeah, sure. I’m happy to cooperate.

Jada: Great, you mentioned you’re on medication. For what?

Sarah: To help control the aftereffects of another drug that I was given.

Jada: And what are these aftereffects?

Sarah: Hallucinations.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Ava: I love you too, sweetheart. And I miss you so much. You too, bye.

Jake: That your secret lover?

Ava: No, dummy, it was my son.

Jake: Uh-huh.

Ava: You know I’ve only got eyes for you.

Jake: Mmm.

Ava: Mm-hmm, how was work?

Jake: Thrilling. Let me tell you, watching gabi and shin’s love fest makes you want to gouge your eyes out.

Ava: Mmm, so things are getting pretty serious with them, huh?

Jake: Looks like it. Anyway, enough about them. How was your day?

Ava: Well, before I was talking with my secret lover, I mean, tripp…

Jake: Uh-huh.

Ava: I was watching a pretty interesting press conference.

Jake: Sounds like a contradiction of terms.

Ava: Oh, so then I take it you haven’t heard the news.

Jake: About?

Ava: The governor issued several pardons just now, including one for your sister kristen.

Jake: Huh.

Kristen: It’s funny. I was pretty much resigned to finishing out my sentence here, with the occasional escape, of course, when this amazing opportunity for a full pardon just fell right into my lap. And I was never one to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Gwen: Well, congratulations. I guess this is goodbye then.

Kristen: Actually, it isn’T. No, see, you are coming with me.

Gwen: What?

Kristen: Yes, what, did you think I’m gonna leave you behind? No, hon–ouch. I got you a full pardon too.

Shawn: I spoke to chloe earlier. And she really helped me understand just how unfair that I’ve been to you since the moment that little shawn was conceived.

Belle: I don’t want to go back there.

Shawn: Belle, please, I just–let me just say this. I was wrong. I was wrong to let you believe that jan and I never had sex. I should have told you. I should have told you the moment that it happened so that you wouldn’t have gotten blindsided by her all those months later with her telling you that she’s pregnant. And I’m sorry. I’m sorry about the decisions that I made that affected the both of us. Letting jan move in, and telling you to keep your distance from her? Look, all I was trying to do was protect my unborn son. But you are my wife, belle. You’re my wife, and I should have involved you in every decision that was made. And I should have made it clear to you and to jan that you and I–that we’re a team.

Belle: Well, I didn’t really make that easy for you. The idea of jan having your baby just drove me crazy, and I shut down, and I shut you down.

Shawn: But I should not have let you. I should have worked with you. I should have worked harder to find a solution, a different solution. Like, to have jan–to have her live someplace else. Okay, but no, I didn’T. I put you in an impossible position. And for that, belle, I am so sorry.

Evan: Governor mitchell didn’t mention kristen’s two other demands when he started his announcement. I was worried he was going to renege on that part of the deal. But he managed to sneak them in at the end.

Orpheus: He was probably embarrassed by what kristen made him do. I can’t say that I blame him. I don’t know what that woman was thinking.

Rolf: I just heard the wonderful news! Ah! Thank you for securing me a pardon from the governor. I am so honored that you would even think of me. Of course, I did help you escape that one time. But you’ve been a little standoffish since they brought you back. I was starting to think you didn’t like me.

Orpheus: I don’T.

Evan: Dr. Rolf, your release was kirsten dimera’s idea, not my dad’S.

Rolf: Ah. I should have known the dimeras would once again come to my rescue.

Evan: I don’t get it. Why are you so loyal to that family?

Rolf: Stefano was the first person to acknowledge and encourage my scientific genius. Apparently, his daughter shares his wisdom and values my considerable talents as well. Ah, that kristen always was the shrewd one.

Gwen: Okay, let me get this straight. So you had evan tell his father that he need to secure a pardon not just for you, but also for dr. Rolf and for me?

Kristen: Yeah, I mean, I have a certain loyalty to dr. Rolf as well. Better yet, he may come in handy for me.

Gwen: Well, I get that, but why for me? Why would you ask for a pardon for me?

Kristen: Oh, silly, I’m a good and loyal friend.

Gwen: I didn’t realize we were friends.

Kristen: Of course we are. I mean, do you think I’ve forgotten how you helped me escape police custody?

Gwen: Because you blackmailed me.

Kristen: Okay, granted, our friendship didn’t exactly start on a level playing field. But you and ava, you know, you came through for me. And I felt I owed you one.

Gwen: I see. Well, this is incredible.

Kristen: Isn’t it? This must be how oprah feels. You get a pardon. You get a pardon. Everybody gets a pardon.

Gwen: Yeah, well, not everybody.

Jake: So my sister kristen’s a free woman now, huh?

Ava: Yep. Along with orpheus and evan.

Jake: Did the governor mention why he issued these pardons?

Ava: Yeah, I don’t know. Tripp called during the middle of the conference; I didn’t get all the juicy details.

Jake: You wouldn’t have anything to do with this, would you?

Ava: With kristen getting pardoned? Why would you even ask me that?

Jake: Because I would imagine that you still have a certain amount of influence over your old mob ties, right? You and kristen were friends. You helped her escape police custody, what, twice?

Ava: I had nothing to do with the governor’s pardon. Although, I kind of like that you think I got that kind of power, that I could pull off something like that.

Jake: Well, I think there’s no limit as to what you could pull off, ava vitali, what with your charm and your brains. You are a woman of many talents.

Ava: Yeah. And don’t you forget it.

Xander: Well, can you at least tell me the name of this supposed eyewitness? Who’s claiming they saw sarah at the dimera estate the night abigail was murdered?

Rafe: Not at liberty to say.

Xander: Was it lucas? Heard some cops talking about some hypnosis session he had with marlena? Sounds totally bogus to me.

Rafe: I just told you I am not revealing the identity of the witness.

Xander: Of course it was lucas; who else could it be? He’s your main suspect, right? And what, he just happens to recall seeing sarah. Come on, it must be painfully obvious even to you that he’s just trying to point the finger at someone else.

Rafe: Okay. Let’s say you’re right. Let’s say it was lucas. Why would he implicate sarah, of all people?

Xander: I don’t know. Maybe it was the first name that popped into his wee head. But we’re talking about sarah, rafe. She’s a doctor. She took an oath to do no harm. Not to mention she’s the kindest person on earth. She would certainly never murder anyone, especially her own cousin.

Jada: Can you tell me some more about the drug that causes these hallucinations?

Sarah: It doesn’t have a name. It’s experimental.

Jada: Is it recreational?

Sarah: I didn’t take it willingly, if that’s what you’re asking. A woman named kristen dimera injected me with it.

Jada: Why would she do that?

Sarah: She was keeping me hostage in the dimera tunnels. I found the syringe on the floor, and I was planning on using it against her to try to escape. She overpowered me and used it on me instead.

Jada: Do you know how a drug-filled syringe would just happen to be on the floor?

Sarah: I did not know it then, but I have since learned that abigail left it behind.

Jada: Abigail dimera?

Sarah: Yes.

Jada: So, in a way, abigail was responsible for your hallucinations. I’m sure that made you very angry with her.

Sarah: No, no, of course not. This is all kristen’s fault. She’s the one that I’m angry with, and I am more than angry. She is a vile human being. She’s a sadistic bitch, and I hate her for what she did to me.

Kristen: What do you mean? I mean, who else was I supposed to get a pardon for? One of those lamebrains we see in the exercise yard every day?

Gwen: How about your bff lani?

Kristen: Yeah. Well, believe me, I would if I could have. But the governor doesn’t have jurisdiction now that she’s serving her sentence out of state.

Gwen: Well, that’s too bad. For her. But you and me, I mean, we’re really going home tonight.

Kristen: Yes, yes, we are!

Gwen: Really?

Kristen: Yes!

Gwen: Oh, my–ah! Oh, my god. Thank you.

Rolf: Well, I must go and gather my things if we are to leave this vile penitentiary tonight. What a delightful turn of events, huzzah!

Orpheus: What a freak show.

Evan: He’s excited. That’s all. He’s got his life back, and so do I, and as soon as I’m out of this hellhole, I’m going straight to shawn brady’s, and I’m gonna claim my child.

Orpheus: Well, if that’s your plan, you’re gonna need this. It’s the original results from jan’s paternity test. It proves that shawn brady is not the father of her baby.

Evan: Thanks. Although, I wish you’d told me the truth a lot sooner.

Orpheus: Right. Because you’re so discreet.

Evan: I get that I let you down. And I’m sorry.

Orpheus: It’s fine. Just go get my grandson. He belongs with us, not with marlena’s dimwitted son-in-law.

Belle: In the beginning, I wanted to lay all the blame on you, but I realize now that I can’T. I made some mistakes as well. I pretty much did what I always do when things are rough between us, and I sought comfort and assurance from someone else, when I should have been trying to work things out with you. Every time we fought, I turned to ej, even though I knew how much it bothered you. And I guess, on some level, that’s probably why I did it.

Shawn: Look, I know that part of you ran to ej to hurt me. But is that all that it was? Like, in the end, did– in the end, did you fall in love with him?

Belle: What–no, no. Ej was there for me, but it was never love. And I want you to know i didn’t file for separation so I could be with ej. I really did feel like we needed that space. But I do admit that having those separation papers helped me rationalize that it was okay to be with him. I told myself that I wasn’t betraying our vows because we were legally separated. But I do know that it was a betrayal. And I am deeply sorry I hurt you.

Shawn: We’ve established that you and I are both sorry. So where does that leave us now?

Jada: Do you still suffer from these hallucinations?

Sarah: I have them less often now that my medicine has been adjusted.

Jada: Can you give me an example of how these hallucinations manifest themselves?

Sarah: I imagined my stepfather was kristen, and she was holding a syringe, but it was just him with a pen.

Jada: I see. Any other incidents?

Sarah: I mistook a woman named nicole walker for kristen. And I attacked her.

Jada: Attacked her how?

Sarah: I grabbed her by the arm to try to get her away from eric brady. Xander stepped in and helped me realize that I was hallucinating, made me snap out of it. Nicole was fine. She wasn’t hurt at all.

Jada: Have you hallucinated that anybody else was kristen dimera?

Sarah: Xander’s ex-wife, chanel dupree.

Jada: And did you attack her the same way you did nicole walker?

Sarah: Sort of.

Jada: Sort of, can you please elaborate on that?

Sarah: I threatened her with a knife.

Xander: Sarah and I should be celebrating our wedding night right now. This very minute, we should be enjoying champagne, and cake, and lots and lots of newlywed sex.

Rafe: Yeah, well, I really don’t need to hear about your honeymoon plans.

Xander: Once again, all our plans have gone to hell. We were kept apart for so long by kristen and then gwen. I really thought this was our chance, finally, our big moment, our happily ever after.

Rafe: Okay, listen. Believe it or not, I am not completely unsympathetic to your feelings, all right, so if you could just put your frustration aside and have a little objectivity, okay? So if it turns out that sarah was at the dimeras the night abigail was murdered…

Xander: Which she wasn’T.

Rafe: Then we need to know everything that happened, right? And if it turns out that sarah is innocent…

Xander: Which she is!

Rafe: She might be able to shed some light on the investigation.

[Phone rings] Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to take this. Hey, abe, what’s up? No, I did not see the press conference. You’ve gotta be kidding me.

Shawn: I guess there isn’t an easy answer.

Belle: No, there isn’T.

[Cell phone beeps]

Shawn: I have to check this. It might be work, okay? What the hell?

Belle: What, what’s wrong?

Shawn: Governor mitchell pardoned five people. And you are not gonna believe who they are.

Ava: So did you figure out why the governor pardoned your sister?

Jake: No, it’s pretty vague about why he was letting her go. But I did come across a related piece of news you might be interested to hear.

Ava: Yeah, what’s that?

Jake: Well, toward the end of the press conference, governor mitchell announced that he was issuing two more pardons, one for dr. Wilhelm rolf, and the other for your own pal, gwen.

Ava: You’re kidding. So the governor pardoned orpheus, kristen dimera, evan frears, gwen rizczech, and dr. Wilhelm rolf. Talk about a rogues’ gallery. And as of tonight, they are all free to do whatever the hell they please. Research shows that people remember ads with young people

Jada: You said at your mother’s house on the night in question that you were planning on visiting abigail dimera.

Sarah: Yeah, dr. Evans suggested that I go speak to my cousin because abigail had had a similar reaction to the same drug.

Jada: So what happened when you went to visit her?

Sarah: I didn’t go, it turns out. I went to statesville to see abigail’s sister gwen rizczech.

Jada: And after your visit to statesville?

Sarah: I went to the salem inn. I needed to lie down. I was just–I was feeling off because my meds hadn’t been adjusted yet.

Jada: So you’re saying that you never went to the dimera estate that night.

Sarah: That’s what I’m saying.

Jada: Well, lucas said he saw you there.

Sarah: That’s impossible. So lucas is lying, or he’s mistaken. I don’t know.

Jada: I’m just telling you what he said he saw. He said he saw you fleeing down the stairs. You had an object in your hand. You dropped it.

Sarah: I couldn’t drop something if I wasn’t there.

Jada: I’m just telling you what lucas said. Even though he didn’t know what you had in your hand, allegedly, I think it was the knife, the same one that killed abigail dimera.

Rolf: Ms. Dimera, please accept my heartfelt thanks for securing my freedom. You have no idea how hard it has been for me to coexist with all those neanderthals in there.

Kristen: You are very welcome, rolf. I know father wouldn’t have wanted me to leave you languishing behind bars. And now you can continue his work.

Rolf: Indeed. And am I correct in thinking you may require my services in the future?

Kristen: Oh, you know me too well. I will get in touch soon. But until then, lie low and stay out of trouble.

Rolf: Understood. I shall await your instructions.

Gwen: So what services of dr. Rolf will you be requiring, ms. Dimera? What exactly do you have planned?

Belle: Well, please be safe. Okay, I love you too. Okay. My mom heard about orpheus, so they’re on the alert.

Shawn: That’s good. That’s good. Did you get ahold of brady?

Belle: Yeah, he knows about kristen.

Shawn: I left word for ben and ciara. Thank god they’re halfway across the world, where evan can’t get to them.

Belle: That’s a relief. All right, so everyone we love is safe.

Shawn: Yeah, and they’re gonna stay that way.

Evan: Sorry to interrupt. Door was open.

Shawn: What the hell are you doing here? If you’re looking for my sister, then–

Evan: I’m not. I’m here to get my son.

Shawn: Your son?

Evan: The one you call shawn christian. I’m sorry to tell you–actually, no, I’m not. I’m proud to say it. He’s not your son. He’s mine. After trying lots of things to manage her

Sarah: Look, abigail was my cousin, and I loved her. She rescued me from kristen. I’m profoundly grateful to her. Why in god’s name would I ever hurt her?

Jada: You obviously wouldn’t in your normal state of mind, but, dr. Horton, you’ve admitted that you’re subject to hallucinations. Isn’t it possible that you thought abigail was kristen dimera and felt that she was a threat? I mean, you’ve admitted to brandishing a knife against ms. Dupree. You could have done the same thing to abigail, except this time, I don’t think that anybody was there to protect her, to stop you from taking your revenge.

Sarah: Am I under arrest?

Jada: No.

Sarah: Then I’d like to leave.

Kristen: Oh, you know me, I always have a plan. But I’m not ready to share the details. Let’s just say I intend to get back everything I lost. And I assume you’ll do the same?

Gwen: Well, I might be able to repair my relationship with my father, but xander and I, we’re a lost cause, especially after what I did to sarah. I don’t think he’ll ever speak to me again, let alone take me back.

Kristen: Hey, you never know. At least you have a fighting chance.

Gwen: Good to know one of us thinks so.

Kristen: Oh, honey, I know so. You are beautiful, and smart, and definitely more interesting than that ditzy sarah horton. I can’t stand that moron xander. I never could. But for some reason, you love him. And we both have been given a second chance at freedom, and I think you and I need to go after what we want and not let anyone stand in our way.

Xander: What’s taking so long? Oh, you okay–what happened?

Sarah: Will you please take me home?

Xander: Of course.

Evan: Is that him? Shawn christian?

Shawn: You take another step towards my son, and I will kill you.

Evan: Look, I didn’t come here to fight with you.

Shawn: Okay, well do yourself a favor, turn around, and get the hell out of my house now.

Evan: I understand why you might not believe me.

Belle: Yeah, maybe because you’re a psychotic murderer.

Evan: But I swear I’m telling the truth. I’m the father of that baby, of jan spears’ baby.

Shawn: How do you even know jan?

Evan: She and I hooked up when she first came to statesville. We met in the infirmary. It got pretty hot pretty fast. I didn’t know at the time, but she wanted me to get her pregnant so she could pass the baby off as yours. I guess it worked out fine.

Shawn: Look, I have a paternity test that proves that I am that baby’s father.

Evan: Yeah, a test that my father helped jan alter.

Shawn: Orpheus? Why would he do that?

Evan: He had his reasons.

Belle: This doesn’t make any sense.

Evan: Look, I have the real results of the paternity test right here. It says that you’re not the father, as you can see.

Shawn: How do we know that that isn’t the fake, huh?

Belle: Yeah, even if these results are real, they don’t prove that you’re the father.

Evan: She named the baby after me. Christian is my birth name.

Belle: She also named the baby after shawn.

Shawn: She named my son after me.

Evan: Look, I’ll take a paternity test if you want to. In fact, bring it on. See, the sooner that we get this all sorted out, the sooner I can be with my son.

Jake: All right, so you remember the dimera board meeting a little while ago. Kristen attended virtually.

Ava: Mm-hmm, yeah, ’cause she was on the run, as usual.

Jake: Right, well, she voted against my brothers, which kept gabi in charge of the company, and in turn kind of saved my job too.

Ava: So in other words, she did you a major favor.

Jake: Right, and she called me afterwards and basically said that in exchange for that major favor, that maybe the two of us could collaborate, that we would do great things together.

Ava: Yeah, like what exactly?

Jake: I don’t really know. To be honest with you, I kind of forgot about it after she got arrested, but now that she’s free, changes everything.

[Knock at door]

Kristen: Hey, jake, open up. It’s your sister. It’s kristen.

Sarah: I can’t believe our wedding was ruined again.

Xander: I’m so sorry, sarah. But it’s all gonna work out.

Sarah: Xander.

Xander: I promise you.

Sarah: How can you say it’s gonna work out? I’m a murder suspect.

Xander: Let’s just–let’s not talk about that right now.

Sarah: How can we not talk talk about it? This could change our whole life. I’m sitting here, and I’m worried about me when my cousin abigail was just… how could this happen? How could someone take her life?

Xander: It’s gonna be all right, okay? It’s gonna be okay.

Sarah: How could this day get any worse?

Gwen: Hello, xander, sarah.

Xander: Gwen? What the hell?

Gwen: Guess you haven’t heard. Yeah, the governor set me free. Full pardon. So I’m free as a bird. Isn’t that just the best news ever? Right, well, see you around.

Rolf: It’s good to see you again, stefano. As I’m sure you’re aware, my experiments were on hold for quite some time. But, thanks to kristen, I can finally get back to my important work. I hope I continue to make you proud.

[Dramatic music]

Jake: Ah, hello, kristen.

Kristen: Evening, jake. Hey, ava. Well, since your jaws aren’t hanging on the floor in shock, I presume you heard my wonderful news.

Ava: Yeah, we were just talking about your release. Congratulations. You must be so relieved.

Kristen: You have no idea.

Jake: So, kristen, I was actually just telling ava that you could be knocking at my door any minute ’cause i sort of owe you a favor.

Kristen: Oh, there’s no “sort of” about it. Matter of fact, since I saved your job, in my calculations, you owe my multiple favors.

Jake: How many is multiple?

Kristen: Well, as my lawyer would say, it depends. In any case, I’m here to call on my first one.

Ava: Which is…

Kristen: Which is, I need a place to stay. Yeah, and though it does fall a bit short of my personal standards, I think this little pied–terre of yours will do me just fine. Thank you.

[Sighs]

Evan: Should we all head over to the hospital now, get the ball rolling on the paternity test?

Shawn: Look, my son is not going anywhere.

Evan: Look, I understand you’re upset. Jan lied to us both. But I am telling the truth, and deep down you know that.

Shawn: What I know is that you need to get the hell out of my sight before I rip you to shreds.

Evan: I’ll go, for now. But I’m coming back with that court order for that paternity test.

Belle: Which we will fight.

Evan: Goodnight, shawn christian. Daddy will be back soon.

Jada: You really don’t need to buy me a beer.

Rafe: What–no, you had a great first day. You earned it. Plus, it’ll give me the chance to get you up to speed on the five felons that the governor pardoned today.

Jada: I read about that announcement.

Rafe: Yeah.

Jada: Why would the governor set so many dangerous criminals free?

Rafe: I–well, what do you know? Here comes one of them now.

Orpheus: Evening, commissioner.

Rafe: Yeah. Listen, I don’t know how you managed to pull this off, but you should know that I’ve got my eye on you. So if you came here looking to cause trouble–

Orpheus: Oh, no, no. Wouldn’t dream of it, no. No, from here on in, I’m gonna be a model citizen.

Rafe: Yeah.

Johnny: I’m not.

Paulina: Oh, ha ha ha! Hi! Abe. Ha ha. Abe the babe. How was your day?

Abe: Well, it’s a lot better now.

[Both laughing] Oh, I see you, uh, put out big mama’s good china, huh? So what’s the occasion? Chanel planning on some celebration?

Paulina: Mm. Chanel isn’t joining us for dinner. We’re having a surprise guest.

Abe: Oh!

Chloe: Hey. I hope this is okay.

Shawn: Yeah. Come on in.

Chloe: I come bearing gifts. Or rather one gift for the baby.

[Both chuckling] Oh, can I hold him?

Shawn: Yeah. Here you go.

[Baby fussing]

Shawn: Let’s open this up. What is this? What–[Laughs]

Kristen: [Huffs] Who else would I be?

Brady: What do you want?

Kristen: Well, you…you said once I got settled in here, you’d think about bringing rachel to see me, and I’m officially settled in. I miss our daughter so much, brady. I really need to see her.

Evan: [Sighs]

Orpheus: Stop pacing. You’re making me dizzy.

Evan: You’re dizzy? My head won’t stop spinning. I already lost one son, dad. Jan trying to make off with my other one? You can’t blame me for being upset. Thank god they stopped her. Evan: But when? You said it could take weeks, months!

Brady: I can’t bring rachel to see you right now.

Kristen: What? Well, why not?

Brady: We went to visit tate and theresa in california. And she was having such a good time hanging with her brother, going to the beach… she begged me to stay a little longer. So I discussed it with theresa and–

Kristen: You left my kid in california in the care of that maniac? You didn’t even think to talk to me first?

Brady: Theresa’s a good mom.

Evan: Really?

Chloe: I know that. But you have to try to understand belle’s side of this.

Shawn: I was the one who was assaulted–me. And then she’s acting like I cheated on her. I mean, come on.

Chloe: Belle understands that what happened between you and jan was not in your control. But what was in your control was letting her know that you’d had sex with jan, and you could have controlled your reaction to finding out that jan was having your baby. But what did you do? You helped her get outta prison. You moved her in here. Belle saw that.

Shawn: Yeah, but belle had already moved out.

Chloe: Well, of course she did, temporarily, to wrap her mind around all this madness. And then jan starts having labor pains and asks you to keep belle away from her, and you did that.

Shawn: Yeah, because jan is carrying my baby. I mean, what am I supposed to do? I was looking out for his health.

Chloe: What about looking out for your marriage?

Belle: I’m sorry, brady. It’s so hard when a child’s involved.

Brady: The only thing that matters right now is what’s best for rachel. She’s getting older. Think she’s developing these little anxieties. Everything petrifies her. Even g-rated movies. She made me stop “snow white” the other day.

Belle: Well, that evil queen is pretty scary.

Brady: I just don’t think statesville prison is the right place for a kid, especially rachel right now. She can’t handle it.

Orpheus: Tip of the iceberg, governor. You might have thought you buried the, uh, the anderson file deep, but I’m afraid it looks like you’re sunk.

Orpheus: Easy there, ed. You might want to consider who you’re talking to. I know everything you did.

Orpheus: There ya go. That is exactly what I wanted to hear. If you’re washing with the bargain brand,

Brady: Look, you are a very good person, and yes, yes, shawn christian is jan’s baby, but it…is also shawn’s baby. And shawn has found a way to step up and be a parent. So you probably can too… especially now that jan is outta the picture. You know, that little boy is gonna need a mother.

Belle: We don’t even know that jan is gone. She’s been gone before.

Chanel: Listen, my first marriage, it lasted a day, and my second one wasn’t much longer. I wanna do it right this time. So, johnny, I’m sorry, but I can’t accept that ring.

Allie: Wait, so are you saying that…you choose me?

Chanel: I’m not choosing either one of you.

Chanel: I said, I will make a decision, but just let me sleep on it. I-I can’t make a decision with both of you staring at me.

Allie: I don’t know how to feel. It’s like one minute my mom and dad are getting married and then the next, he’s arrested for her kidnapping, and then she’s gone.

[Knocking at door] Uh, hey, someone’s at the door. So I have to go, but thank you for checking in on me, tripp, and tell joey and stephanie I say hey.

[Phone beeps] Hi, grandma kate.

Kate: Hi, honey. I just wanted to check on you– see how you’re doing.

Allie: [Sighs] How I’m doing? Um, well I’m just praying that my father isn’t a murderer.

Kate: Well, hopefully, today your prayers will be answered.

Allie: You don’t think he killed abigail?

Kate: No. No, I don’t, and I think maybe we’re going to get proof of that today.

Lucas: I just wish I could remember every single detail from that night.

Marlena: Well, I think the hypnosis got us part of the way there. Maybe we can get some– some more clarity after they interview sarah.

Lucas: [Sighs] What was sarah doing at the dimera mansion when I saw her?

Marlena: Only she has the answer to that.

Lucas: [Sighs] I hope she can prove to me and to rafe and to chad that I didn’t kill abigail.

Rafe: Chad, I just wanted to give you a heads-up. I’m bringing in a person of interest.

Chad: A per–a person of interest, what does that mean?

Rafe: Well, we aren’t sure yet.

Chad: All right, well, I’m comin’ down there.

Rafe: Uh, no. No, you’re not. No way in hell.

Maggie: Who are you?

Jada: Detective jada hunter, salem pd.

Maggie: And you have an objection to this marriage?

Sarah: Do you know her?

Xander: Never seen her before in my life.

Jada: I’m afraid I have to bring you in for questioning.

Maggie: Oh, no, xander. What have you done now?

Jada: Not him–her. I’m here for dr. Sarah horton.

Maggie: Sarah?

Sarah: Me? Why?

Xander: What could you possibly need to question sarah about?

Jada: The murder of abigail dimera.

[Dramatic music]

Chad: Well, I need to know what information this person has. Are they a suspect? Does it mean that lucas didn’t do it?

Rafe: Listen to me, chad. I’m doing everything by the book here, and you’ve shown to me that you can’t restrain yourself.

Chad: This is my wife’s murder we’re talking about.

Rafe: I understand that, chad. But if you go off the handle again, you could jeopardize the entire investigation.

Chad: Rafe, just tell me who it is.

Rafe: I’m sorry. When I know more, I will let you know, but I need you to promise me to stay out of it.

Chad: How–how the hell am I supposed to do that? You want me to find somebody to chain me to a chair?

Sonny: Oh, I could do that if you need me to.

[Cell phone beeps]

Xander: Well, detective hunter, you’ve obviously been given some bad information.

Jada: I don’t think so.

Maggie: How come I’ve never heard of you before?

Jada: I just got hired today.

Xander: [Laughs] That explains it.

Jada: Explains what, mr. Cook?

Xander: You’re anxious to prove yourself on your first day, but I promise you, harassing a couple of upstanding citizens isn’t the way. Go talk to commissioner hernandez about it.

Jada: He’s the one that sent me here.

Maggie: Rafe sent you, why?

Xander: Because he made a big mistake. Sarah doesn’t know anything about the murder of abigail dimera.

Jada: I’d like to hear her say that.

Sarah: I don’T.

Jada: That’s funny, because we have an eyewitness who puts you at the scene of the crime on the night mrs. Dimera was killed.

Migraine attacks?

Allie: What I don’t understand is, at the wedding, my dad admitted to kidnapping my mom, so why is he pleading not guilty?

Kate: Well, because I convinced him to fight the charges.

Allie: Why?

Kate: Because I was afraid that if he confessed to kidnapping your mom, that they would just go ahead and charge him for abigail’s murder.

Allie: Are you sure he didn’t do it?

Kate: Allie, of course he didn’t do it.

Allie: I don’t wanna believe it either, but if my dad was capable of kidnapping my mom, lying about it for months, keeping it from all of us…

Kate: [Sighs] Look, um, there’s something that I have to talk to you about.

Chanel: Johnny. What are you doing here?

Johnny: Uh, waiting for you. Look, I need you, chanel.

Chanel: Well, I’m right here.

Sonny: So you need me to stop you from going to the police station?

Chad: No, I need to go to the police station–

Sonny: I don’t think that’s–

Chad: Stop! I wanna find out who killed my wife!

Sonny: And you will! You will, okay? But in order for rafe to find out who killed her, he needs to be able to focus on the case instead of dealing with you.

Chad: All right, so well then, what do I do then? Just sit here and do nothing while I’m losing my mind?

Sonny: I’ll keep you company, okay? I will help keep your mind off things until we have just a little bit more information.

Chad: And how am I supposed to think about anything else? Because I just keep running the same questions over and over again, which is, could it be true that lucas killed abby and could he be that desperate to protect his secret?

Sonny: I know. I mean, will was asking the same exact questions before he left.

Chad: Where’d he go?

Sonny: Some new project in hollywood. I–I practically had to force him to go.

[Scoffs]

Chad: And does he think that his dad could be the–the one who did it?

Sonny: No. No, and neither do I. It’s just not the lucas that either of us know.

Chad: Why? He kidnapped sami. He’s off the wagon. Who knows what he can do?

Sonny: Okay, fine, but we can’t jump to conclusions.

Chad: Yeah, well, you and will should probably accept the fact it could be him.

Sonny: Okay, and you have to accept the fact that these new pieces of information coming out could totally vindicate him.

Chad: Oh, we’ll see.

Sonny: We all want the same thing, chad. All right? The truth, and it’s rafe’s job to find that. So just let him do his job. Okay?

Rafe: Excuse me.

Marlena: Of course.

Rafe: Sarah is being brought in as we speak. In the meantime, lucas, I’ll need to get a statement from you.

Lucas: All right, I’ll say whatever you need me to say.

Rafe: Yeah, well, just explain everything that happened that night– whatever you remember.

Lucas: All right. I’m ready. I mean, I can do that now.

Rafe: Great. I’ll just grab my recorder.

[Dramatic music]

Lucas: Thank you for helping me remember. I mean, I know it was a lot to ask after everything I did to sami.

Marlena: You know, I can’t begin to understand why you did what you did, and I certainly don’t condone it.

Lucas: I’m so sorry that I hurt her. I’m sorry I hurt you and my kids, and I know I lost sami forever, and I know it’s my own damn fault.

Marlena: I don’t disagree with you there.

Lucas: But now that i remember seeing sarah at the mansion, I can remember more, right? I mean, that’s possible, right?

Marlena: It certainly is possible for memories to come back days, even weeks after hypnosis.

Lucas: Good, ’cause I kind of feel like it’s doing that now. I feel like, you know, the fog’s clearing.

Marlena: That would be good.

Lucas: I hope so. I just hope that sarah can prove that it wasn’t me–that it wasn’t me who hurt abigail.

Xander: Wait, who is this person who claims they saw sarah?

Maggie: And what exactly did they see?

Jada: I can’t give you that information, except to say that the eyewitness placed your daughter at the dimera mansion on the night of the murder.

Xander: Oh, well, I can assure you that sarah was nowhere near the mansion that night, and wouldn’t have even had a reason to go there, right?

Sarah: It’s not true.

Sonny: Chad, come on, buddy. You’re gonna wear a hole in the floor.

Chad: Can’t sit still. I don’t know what to do with all of this anger and guilt.

Sonny: G–guilt about what? You didn’t do anything wrong.

Chad: Guess you have talked to ej.

Sonny: Ej? Why–what would ej have to say?

Chad: He’s bitter that kate let him rot in prison when she knew that lucas was the one that kidnapped sami, and what he didn’t know was that I knew about it too.

Sonny: I’m sorry–wait, what? You knew?

Chad: Yeah, I discovered lucas planting the evidence that incriminated ej in the first place, and I kept quiet.

Sonny: Why?

Chad: ‘Cause he was trying to cut me out of dimera, and he kept–he kept trying to cause trouble with abby and me.

Sonny: So you sent your brother to jail?

Chad: Yeah, I’m a great brother.

Sonny: I’m not saying it’s something you should be proud of, but I mean, I’m sure you had your reasons.

Chad: Yeah, I had my reasons.

Sonny: So what now? Is ej gonna press charges?

Chad: No. Not if I sign over all of my shares of dimera to him.

Sonny: Are you gonna do that?

Allie: This sounds serious, grandma.

Kate: It is serious.

[Sighs] Um, you were talking about your dad and your mom and the kidnapping, and, um–

[Knocking at door]

Allie: Um, hang on.

[Door clicks open] Oh, hi.

Marlena: Hello, sweetheart.

Allie: I have both my grandmas visiting. Well, come in.

Marlena: I didn’t know you were going to be here.

Kate: Yeah, well, I came over to tell allie about lucas’ hypnosis session with you, and maybe you can tell us both now. Were you able to get him to go under?

Marlena: I was.

Kate: So did he remember anything about the night of abigail’s murder?

Marlena: He did. I wasn’t going to discuss it with you, except that lucas has asked me to share whatever he recalled with his family, and yes, he did remember going to the mansion that night.

Kate: Oh, god.

Allie: Did he do it, grandma? Did he kill aunt abigail?

Marlena: Uh, he remembers getting there, and nobody answered the door, so he went around the back through the french doors.

Allie: [Sighs] So he was definitely at the mansion?

Marlena: He was, and he was making himself a drink when the knife he was cutting the lemon with slipped, and he cut himself.

Kate: Oh, my god, so he didn’t use the knife on abigail.

Allie: Did he remember anything else?

Marlena: He did. He said there was somebody else there that night.

[Recorder beeps]

Rafe: So tell me again how you entered the dimera mansion.

Lucas: I let myself in through the living room doors.

Rafe: And what did you do once you were inside?

Lucas: I made myself a drink, and um, I went to cut a lemon, but my hands were shaky and the knife slipped, and it sliced my hand.

Rafe: And what happened next?

Lucas: I walked toward the foyer, and that’s when I saw her.

Rafe: Who did you see?

Lucas: Sarah horton.

Rafe: Did she see you?

Lucas: No. No, she was agitated. She was running towards the door.

Rafe: Agitated?

Lucas: Yeah, I’d say she was in a total panic.

Sarah: Actually, I did have a reason to go to the mansion that night.

Maggie: Sweetheart…

Jada: What was the reason?

Sarah: To see abigail.

Xander: Sarah, you don’t have to do this.

Sarah: I want to.

Jada: Why would you be looking for your cousin?

Sarah: I had a conversation with dr. Marlena evans that day.

Jada: The psychiatrist?

Sarah: Yeah, she’s, um, she’s been treating me.

Jada: I understand you’ve recently been through a trauma.

Maggie: A trauma? She was kidnapped. She was drugged. She was held hostage by a maniac.

Xander: I don’t see what this has to do with anything.

Jada: What was the conversation you had with dr. Evans?

Sarah: We, uh, we talked about adjusting my meds, and she suggested that I go speak to abigail, because she’d been through something similar.

Jada: You think that was a good idea?

Sarah: Yes.

Jada: So you admit you went to see her that night?

[Dramatic music]

Chanel: I’m really sorry your family’s going through this.

Johnny: Thanks. I just want my dad to be okay.

Chanel: Well, he seems like a tough guy, kind of like his son.

Johnny: [Chuckles] Yeah, I don’t always feel that way.

Chanel: Are you kidding me? Look at what you’ve gone through this year. You literally battled the freaking devil for your soul, and you came out on the other side.

Johnny: I still lost you.

Chanel: [Sighs] Things happen, G.

Johnny: Yeah, yeah. Yeah, things happen. I mean, my mom and dad, they could’ve found a way back to each other, but now my mom left town. No one knows if or when she’ll ever come home. My uncle chad just lost my aunt abigail forever, and I don’t want that to happen to us.

Johnny: But I want more than that. Look, I wanna give us another try. Before the devil ruined everything, you and I were so happy. We were so happy. Meeting you, falling in love with you, getting married in italy–that was the best time of my life, and I think that you were pretty happy too.

Marlena: We don’t know. Rafe is sending a detective to talk to her. Maybe she can remember something that could help lucas.

Kate: Yeah, well, assuming she’s not the murderer.

Allie: Why would sarah kill abigail?

Kate: I don’t know. I don’t know, but anything’s possible.

Marlena: Rafe said he would contact me if has any news at all, so if I hear from him, I will let you know.

Kate: Look, I wanna thank you for helping. I know that–I know that you’re upset with me and with lucas, so…

Allie: Wait, what? Grandma kate, why would she be upset with you?

Chad: Ej can have my shares. I don’t care about them. They mean nothing to me.

Sonny: Really? You don’t–you don’t care about them at all?

Chad: No, honestly, I owe him after what I did. This morning, he pointed out my hypocrisy.

Sonny: Hypocrisy? Your hypoc–how are you a hypocrite?

Chad: Well, I went after him for allowing clyde weston to stay free when he was a threat to the family. Meanwhile, I did the exact same thing with lucas.

Sonny: Okay, well, I don’t think it’s fair to compare lucas to clyde weston.

Chad: He kidnapped sami and it may have cost abby her life.

Sonny: Okay, we don’t know that.

Chad: Well, if it is true, and lucas did kill her, then I could’ve prevented it if I told the truth. He would be behind bars, and abby could be alive still.

Sonny: Okay, chad.

Chad: If that is true, I will never forgive myself.

Sarah: I didn’t say that I was at the mansion. I just said that I was planning on speaking to abigail.

Jada: Seems like you’re parsing your words, dr. Horton. Were you there or weren’t you?

Maggie: You have no right to harass my daughter.

Jada: I just want her to answer the question.

Xander: Sarah, don’t say another word.

Jada: Please stay out of it, mr. Cook.

Xander: Listen to me, sarah. You don’t have to answer anything. You don’t have to talk to her at all if you don’t want to.

Jada: He’s right, but it would make me wonder what it is you’re hiding.

Xander: Detective, that’s enough. In case you haven’t noticed, you interrupted our wedding, and I’m gonna have to ask you to leave.

Rafe: You said sarah headed for the door? Did she run off?

Lucas: She stopped in the doorway.

Rafe: Why did she stop?

Lucas: I think she dropped something.

Rafe: Did you see what it was? Was it a knife? After trying lots of things to manage her

Johnny: Look, I wanted to be patient. I tried to give you your space, but I watched my parents’ lives fall apart. I watched my uncle chad have his heart ripped out, and all i could think about was just how– how quickly it can all go away. One minute, you’re starting your new life together; the next–gone, and so it became impossible to wait… because every minute that goes by without me telling you how I feel is a minute wasted, and I’m not gonna do it. I’m not gonna stand back and risk losing you, chanel, because I know that you’re the right person for me, and I’m the right person for you, and I know you might have feelings for my sister, but I believe in my soul that we belong together, and we can’t lose any more time.

Kate: I was about to tell you when um–when marlena knocked on the door. Allie, I just–I don’t know how to say it. I knew that your dad kidnapped your mom.

Allie: What? You knew the whole time?

Kate: No, I didn’T. I didn’t know the whole time. I found out after she had been rescued, because believe me, if–if I had known while she was still missing, I would’ve told someone.

Allie: Yeah, easy to say now. You let me go on and on about what a hero my dad was, and meanwhile, you knew–you knew that he was–I don’t even know what to call him.

Kate: He is still your father, allie.

Allie: No, he’s a kidnapper and maybe worse.

Kate: No, we don’t know that.

Allie: Why didn’t you say anything? You just sat at the wedding with your mouth shut while they– while they exchanged vows, they exchanged rings?

Kate: Yes. Yes, because I believed that they loved each other.

Allie: He kidnapped her! The whole thing was based on a lie. If chad hadn’t burst in, they’d be married right now.

Chad: Great. I mean, as much as I want to find out who the killer is, it’s not gonna change anything. I mean, abby’s still gone. I’m nothing without her.

Sonny: Hey, knock it off, okay? That’s not true. You still have the kids.

Chad: Yeah, I’m about as good a father to them as I am a brother to ej.

Sonny: You are a great father, all right? You love them, and they know that.

Chad: Yeah, I love them with every fiber of my being, but it’s really hard to be a loving dad when you are so filled with…rage and regret.

Sonny: Chad, you’re doing your best.

Chad: Am I? Doesn’t feel that way. You know, when abby used to put them to bed, she would–she would always tell them this long, beautiful story with a new adventure every night. She would do all of the… voices and sing songs, and it was the best part of the day for all three of them and me most nights. It’s all–it’s all I got– just to read a chapter without breaking down in front of them.

Sonny: Okay, fine, but you’re with them, okay? And they feel that. You’re trying, and that’s all that matters.

Chad: Yeah, but what if it’s not enough? What if I’m not enough?

Rafe: So what sarah was looking at on the floor, was it a knife?

Lucas: I don’t know.

Rafe: What does that mean? You know, like, you didn’t see it, or you don’t remember?

Lucas: I do remember. It’s just her back was to me, and I saw her bend down to pick something up, and then she shoved it into her pocket, but i couldn’t make out what it was. Then she ran off. Sorry.

Rafe: Okay. So then what did you do next? Did you go after her?

Lucas: No.

Rafe: Did you go upstairs? Did you see abigail?

Jada: I’m afraid I can’t leave without getting answers to my questions.

Xander: You’ll get your answers, I assure you, but not right now.

Maggie: Please, detective. Give them a chance to get married.

Xander: I promise you, sarah will be in touch. But right now, we have to finish our wedding.

Jada: Is that what you want, dr. Horton?

Sarah: Baby, I’m so sorry. I can’t do this right now.

Xander: Sarah, I know this has been very upsetting, but clearly, the detective has made a big mistake.

Jada: So you’ve said.

Xander: Detective, please. Look, tomorrow, we’ll go down to the police station together, and we’ll straighten all this out. But right now, today, all I wanna do is marry you, to finally make you my wife, and– maggie, help me out here.

Maggie: We were almost up to the vows. It would be five more minutes, and the two of you would be married.

Sarah: Honey, I can’T. I can’T. This is–this is too much. Like, how can I give our wedding my full attention when–

Xander: None of this matters.

Sarah: I wanna cooperate. She’s trying to solve abigail’s murder, and I loved abigail. She rescued me. If it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t be here with you now.

Maggie: I understand. Of course.

Sarah: You understand that I have to do everything I can to help–answer all of her questions? I’ll go with you.

Xander: Sarah, no.

Jada: Good decision.

Sarah: I have nothing to hide. I’ll make a statement. I’ll tell you anything you want.

Xander: Detective, can we– please, can you at least give us a moment alone?

[Dramatic music]

Lucas: I remember now. I remember; it’s all coming back to me. After sarah left, I didn’t go upstairs. I didn’t see abigail.

Rafe: What did you do?

Lucas: My hand–my hand was throbbing, and I looked down, and it was bleeding, and i didn’t wanna bleed all over the place, so–so I went back to the bar to grab another towel. Once I wrapped the towel around my hand, I went back out the way I came in.

Rafe: You left through the french doors?

Lucas: Yes!

Rafe: Okay, so where did you go?

Kate: Allie, if you could just give me a chance to explain–

Allie: There’s nothing to explain. You lied. You protected a criminal.

Kate: I protected my son, because I didn’t want him to go to prison.

Allie: I can’t listen to these excuses. Grandma, I have to get out of here. Can you watch henry?

Kate: I’ll watch henry.

Allie: No, you stay away from him. He’s sleeping; do you mind?

Marlena: No. But I do–but–

Chanel: Johnny, get up, get up!

Chad: That’s right. It happens all the time. I hear a car in the driveway, or someone outside the door, and for a moment, I think that it’s her, and she’s gonna walk into the room and light it up with her smile. Every morning, before I wake up, before I open up my eyes, there’s a–a second or two while I’m still half asleep, and–and I think to myself that when i roll over, she’s gonna be right there next to me.

[Sobbing] But she’s not– but she’s not at the door, and she’s not lying in bed next to me, and she never will be.

Xander: Sarah, this is crazy. There’s no reason for you to answer questions about abigail. You didn’t go over there.

Sarah: What if I did the same thing to abigail? What if I went over there that night, and I thought that I saw kristen and I murdered her?

Xander: Why not? I mean, if kristen hadn’t shipped you off to that godforsaken island, we’d have celebrated our first anniversary by now. I don’t see any reason to wait. Unless you’ve changed your mind?

Sarah: No, no. No, I can’t wait to marry you. But, like–but don’t you want a wedding with all of your family and friends?

Xander: [Snorts] Those are few and far between for me, I’m afraid. My best–my only mate just reminded me there’s no guarantees in this life. You have to seize the day.

Sarah: Carpe diem. We learned that the hard way, didn’t we?

[Chuckles]

Xander: [Sighs] The only thing–the only person I need for a real wedding is my bride, the woman I love with all my heart and soul. So, sarah horton…

Sarah: Mm-hmm?

Xander: Will you marry me, today?

Sarah: [Laughing] Yes!

Xander: [Sighs]

Sarah: Now you can put that ring back on my finger.

Gwen: [Groans] Great. Maybe I should phone up “law & order: Special library unit” to find out the case of the missing bloody pages.

Roy: Rizczech.

Gwen: Roy. What’s up?

Roy: Brought you some company. Meet your new cell mate.

[Dramatic music]

Nancy: [Chuckles] Well, if it isn’t my least favorite…weasel. Hmm, have you heard the news?

Leo: You’re leaving town to join the circus? I always thought you’d make a great lion tamer.

Nancy: [Chuckles] You think you’re so damn funny, don’t you?

Leo: Ugh, what is your news? I don’t have time for schmoozing.

Nancy: Just forget about it. It’s all about my fella, and what’s it to you anyway?

Leo: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Your fella? Clyde weston?

Nancy: Yes. He was exonerated. He has an airtight alibi for the night that abigail was killed.

Leo: Whoa. Color me shocked.

Nancy: I told you all along that he was innocent. The only thing that he’s guilty of is, well, buying a piece of stolen jewelry. The person that he bought it from, that’s the real killer.

Marlena: I want to take you back to june 10th. Do you know where you were?

Lucas: I’m at the pub.

Marlena: Are you alone?

Lucas: No, my mom’s here with me. She just told me that abigail knows the truth. She knows that I’m the one who kidnapped sami.

Marlena: Okay. Tell me what happened next.

Lucas: I’m freaking out. I know that if abigail writes about it, if she–if she tells anybody, if she tells ej, that that’s it for me.

[Breathes shakily] My mom’s trying to tell me that abigail isn’t gonna say anything, but I– I don’t believe her.

Marlena: And then what?

Lucas: She–she left. And I, uh… I’m going around the bar. I’m grabbing a bottle of liquor.

Marlena: What happened next?

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Gwen: You’re my new cellmate?

Kristen: Disappointed?

Gwen: Bit surprised. I mean, how does a mastermind criminal like kristen dimera end up here?

Kristen: [Chuckles] By choice.

Gwen: So in other words, you mean the authorities have finally caught up to you, then?

Kristen: Oh, please. I could have outrun those morons for the rest of my life. But I missed my little girl. I couldn’t bear the thought of never seeing her again.

Gwen: Well, that is just bloody fantastic. Not only am I stuck behind bars, but now I have to bunk with the woman who destroyed my relationship with the love of my life.

Xander: About your ring…

Sarah: You still have it, right? Kristen gave it back to you when she was pretending to be me and called off the wedding.

Xander: She did. But, um…

Sarah: But what?

Xander: I’m no longer in possession of it.

Sarah: Did you throw it away when you thought that I broke your heart?

Xander: Of course not. I wouldn’t do that with something as important as your engagement ring.

Sarah: Oh, thank god.

Xander: No, I sold it.

Sarah: What?

Xander: There was something I really needed to buy.

Sarah: What?

Xander: This.

Sarah: Oh, it’s beautiful. It’s–it’s very different than the other one. Is that the idea behind it? Was it, you just wanted to get me something new? A fresh start?

Xander: I, um– I didn’t buy this ring for you.

Sarah: Mm. Who’d you buy it for?

Xander: Gwen.

Gwen: You sold my ring to buy one for gwen?

Xander: [Sighs] Sarah, you have to understand. At the time, I thought there was no hope for us. I had no idea you were trapped on that island. I thought you’d run off with rex and wanted nothing more to do with me.

Sarah: Mm, and that was before I’d been given a second dose of a mind-altering drug by the woman you were about to marry.

Xander: I’m so sorry, sarah. Look, if I had known what gwen was capable of, the lengths she was gonna go to, I never would have bought this ring.

Sarah: I know. And obviously, I understand why gwen was so desperate to hold on to you. I just wish she would have chosen to do something a little less extreme, like challenge me to a cage fight or a duel or something.

Xander: She put your life in danger with that drug. I’ll–I’ll never forgive her.

Sarah: Then how about we forget her? Hmm? My meds are working. I mean, it’s probable that the hallucinations have just stopped, so–

Xander: I hope so. I know how terrifying they’ve been for you, looking at someone and seeing kristen dimera instead.

Sarah: And wanting to kill them. Xander, I’m– I’m so lucky that there was always a third person there to talk me down. I could’ve really hurt someone.

Kristen: Don’t blame all of this on me.

[Chuckles] You wouldn’t even be with xander if I hadn’t shipped sarah off to that island.

Gwen: Oh. Oh, kristen, darling, I’m so very grateful to you. I mean, look around here. I’m living the dream, thanks to you.

Kristen: Well, I can’t help it if you’re not smart enough to stay out of this joint.

Gwen: Excuse me, I am the one who helped keep you out of prison. You blackmailed me into helping you escape. You said if I didn’t, you would tell xander the truth.

Kristen: And when xander started looking into sarah’s disappearance, I’m the one who gave you the mask.

Gwen: So that I could pose as sarah and go to him and tell him to leave her alone and go back to me, which I did.

Kristen: And did he buy it?

Gwen: Yes, but–

Kristen: But nothing.

[Chuckles] Oh, my god. I gave you everything you needed to walk down that aisle with that stupid ape, and abigail is the one who got in your way. So if you want to blame someone for destroying your relationship, blame your little sister.

Leo: The cops already have someone in custody for abigail’s murder.

Nancy: Already? Who? Lucas horton?

Leo: Mm-hmm.

Nancy: That’s impossible. He’s abigail’s uncle. He loved her.

Leo: I assume he loved his fiancée too, and yet he’s accused of kidnapping her. Sounds like herr horton was on quite a crime spree.

Nancy: This isn’t possible. I’ve known lucas for years. He’s–he’s incapable of murder. It must be the brain tumor.

Leo: He has a brain tumor? The article didn’t mention that.

Nancy: Oh, that’s right. He made it up.

Leo: He lied about having a terminal illness? Even I’ve never sunk that low. Well, I don’t know if he’s lost his marbles or what, but he sure sounds guilty to me.

Nancy: No, lucas has done some terrible things in his life, but he would never have killed abigail. The police are barking up the wrong tree. Psoriatic arthritis,

Clyde: Man, I could lose everything, thanks to you. My job, my girl, my freedom. But I’m gonna get me some payback when I sue you and the rest of the keystone cops for false arrest.

Jada: You could sue, but you’d lose.?

Jada: I’m sure commissioner hernandez explained that he had every right to bring you in. You’d been in possession of stolen property which was linked to a murder.

Clyde: Young lady, I was wronged by the cops, and I’m gonna hold ’em accountable.

Jada: Fine, bring your suit. But just know that if you do, what you did to ej dimera will most likely get dragged into this.

Clyde: How do you know about that?

Jada: Admittedly, it’s his word against yours, but a good prosecutor could really build a strong case against you. And from what I hear, melinda trask is desperate for a win and will do anything to get it. So instead of borrowing trouble, why don’t you back off?

Clyde: Who the hell are you?

Jada: Jada hunter. Pleasure to meet you, mr. Weston.

Clyde: I’m gonna take my break.

Rafe: I have to admit, that was very impressive.

Jada: Does that mean I’m hired?

Sarah: So what are you gonna do with that ring? Do not say give it to me.

Xander: Of course not. I’m gonna trade it in. I bought this at the same pawn shop that I sold yours, so I can just do a simple swap, and then we can get married.

Sarah: Do you think they still have my ring?

Xander: I’m very optimistic.

Sarah: Hmm, okay. Well, then all we need is someone to officiate.

Xander: Your mum can do it.

Sarah: My mother?

Xander: She got ordained online. Yeah, last fall, she married justin and bonnie.

Sarah: Oh, I bet victor loved that.

Xander: Actually, I heard he behaved himself and they had a lovely ceremony. In fact, there’s a rumor going around that bonnie and vic are getting on rather well. And if that’s possible, then pulling off our wedding should be a piece of cake.

Sarah: So we’re really doing this.

Xander: We are really doing this.

Sarah: [Squeals]

Xander: [Chuckles]

Gwen: You want me to blame abigail for my troubles?

Kristen: Well, I guess you can’t blame her that much since she’s dead, but don’t take your frustration out on me.

Gwen: Doesn’t really leave too many people to take them out on, does it? Why are you looking at me like that?

Kristen: Well… it just occurred to me that your sister was viciously murdered, stabbed repeatedly in her own bed. Clearly whoever did that was filled with rage.

Gwen: Or maybe it was a robbery, and abigail was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Kristen: [Chuckles] No, I don’t think so. Mm-mm. See, I think this was personal. See, whoever came at abigail with that knife hated her with a passion. Like you, gwen. See, you despised your sister for exposing you right before you were about to marry the love of your life. You came so close, and she took it all away.

Gwen: So I’m your prime suspect then, am I?

Kristen: Mm.

Gwen: You know what? I think you’ve been reading too many of these.

Kristen: Are you saying that you didn’t have a motive?

Gwen: I had motive, yes. But you see, there’s a tiny little problem there with your theory. I couldn’t have killed abigail. You know why? ‘Cause I was locked up in here.

Kristen: Mm.

Marlena: Lucas, you took a bottle of liquor from behind the bar at the pub. Did you–did you stay there and drink it?

Lucas: No. No, I went to the park.

[Groans] I was beyond upset. I knew if abigail told anyone what I had done, I’d lose sami. I’d lose everything. I just–I just wanted to forget, so I kept drinking. But then…

[Grunts] I left.

Marlena: Where did you go when you left the park?

Lucas: Abigail. Abigail, it’s your uncle lucas. I need to talk to you now.

[Breathing heavily] Oh, my god. Oh, my god, I was there. I went to see abigail.

Nancy: Clyde?

Clyde: Oh, nancy.

Nancy: Clyde… I heard you were released.

Clyde: Yeah. Good to be out. Even better to see you.

Nancy: Mm. I’m glad. So I hear you have an airtight alibi?

[Both sigh] The security footage from the dock.

Clyde: Yeah. Kind of glad big brother caught me fishing.

Nancy: Well, like I said, I’m glad for you. I mean, I know you’ve done some questionable things, but, clyde, I knew there was no way you could have killed that innocent young woman in cold blood.

Clyde: That’s one crime I swear to you I did not commit.

[Sighs] But I have to admit, not all my misdeeds are in the past.

Nancy: What do you mean?

Clyde: I owe you an apology. It was dead wrong of me to give you that stolen bracelet.

Leo: Hey!

Xander: Watch it.

Leo: Oh. [Gasps] My, my, what do we have here?

[Gasps] Xandy. I’ve dreamt about this day. The answer’s yes.

Xander: Just be careful with that.

Leo: What, it’s not for me?

Xander: Course it’s not for you, you idiot. It’s for sarah. We’re getting married today.

Leo: What about gwen? Oh, is she just out of sight, out of mind?

Xander: Gwen destroyed our relationship when she poisoned sarah with that second dose of rolf’s drug.

Leo: Well, if you’re getting married today, she must be okay now.

Xander: Gwen didn’t cause any permanent damage, thank god, but sarah’s been struggling for months. They’ve only just figured out her dose, and she’s finally back in her right mind.

Leo: Are you sure about that? I mean, she’d have to be nuts to marry you with that heinous ring.

Xander: I have a wedding to get to.

Leo: Yeah, for the record, gwen only did what she did because she loved you. And you led her to believe you loved her too, or have you forgotten? It wasn’t that long ago you were putting a ring on her finger.

Kristen: So… you were in prison when abigail was murdered? Huh?

[Chuckles]

Roy: Hey, rizczech.

Gwen: Oh, hi, roy.

Roy: Mm-mm. You missed bed check. Where the hell have you been?

Gwen: That’s right. And thanks to abigail outing me at my wedding, I was already serving my time here for helping you kidnap her.

Kristen: Hmm. And giving sarah another dose of that drug? Yeah, word gets around.

Gwen: So then since I was locked up, it should be obvious to you now I could not have possibly killed my sister.

Kristen: Hmm. Well, I suppose, to the average person, I’d consider that an airtight alibi. But a criminal mastermind like me? There’s plenty of ways of getting in and out of this place if you know what you’re doing.

Gwen: Mm. And if you happen to have a woman that looks exactly like you and who is willing to take your place.

Kristen: Well, they say everyone has a twin.

Gwen: Well, not me. I don’T. No. No twins, no friends, and…no way out.

Kristen: Aww. Well, then I guess you’re right, gwen. Hmm? You do have an alibi.

Maggie: Oh, sarah. Oh, my goodness, are you a sight for sore eyes.

Sarah: Hi, mom. What’s wrong?

Maggie: Oh. [Chuckles] I was just reading about lucas.

Sarah: [Sighs]

Maggie: You know, I am still– I’m trying to process that he’s the one that kidnapped sami.

Sarah: [Sighs] You know, as a kidnap victim myself, I can tell you that some people will just go to extremes for love.

Maggie: [Sighs] Yeah. And as awful as holding sami captive was, I cannot believe that he is the one that murdered abigail.

Sarah: No, I–I don’t– I don’t think so either. But it does sound like he fell off the wagon pretty hard.

Maggie: Yeah. He must have been in a very– a very dark and desperate place. And god knows I know about that myself. Hey, but you know what? The lucas that I know, he’s not capable of that kind of violence.

Sarah: Yeah. I agree, mom.

Maggie: I wish someone would convince the police.

Rafe: Detective hunter, as much as I appreciate the assist with clyde, we still do have to go through the formality of this interview.

Jada: Course, commissioner. Steve johnson let me know that you’re very diligent.

Rafe: Oh, well, he had many good things to say about you as well. In fact, he couldn’t recommend you highly enough.

Jada: Well, that’s very kind of you, but he was one of my father’s oldest friends, so you should probably take it with a grain of salt.

Rafe: Ah, yes. Marcus hunter.

Jada: He was a doctor here in salem for years. He always said that this was a great place to live. So when I heard you were down a couple detectives, I took that as an opportunity to bone up on the abigail dimera case.

Rafe: Clearly.

Jada: So, uh, mr. Weston, his alibi, is it solid?

Rafe: Yeah, rock-solid. Time-stamped security footage. But we do have another suspect in custody.

Jada: Lucas horton. I read about that. But unless there’s something you’re holding back, it doesn’t seem like you have much to hold him on.

Rafe: Well, I don’t have a problem telling you that the evidence we have against him is, well, thin. But we are working on that right now.

Marlena: So you went to the dimera house that night.

Lucas: I was banging on the front door. I was yelling for abigail.

Marlena: Did she answer?

[Knocking at door]

Lucas: Abigail, I know you’re in there; open up. No, no she didn’t answer. I tried the door, but it was locked.

[Dramatic music]

Marlena: Lucas, did you leave?

Lucas: No. I went in through the french doors. Abigail, are you in here? Abigail! She wasn’t there, so I decided to fix myself a drink and wait.

[Lid clatters]

[Burps] I was slicing a lemon, and the knife slipped. Aah! Ow!

[Groaning] Ow! [Groans] Ow.

[Groans]

Marlena: So that’s how you cut your hand? It was on the knife that you used to cut the lemon.

Lucas: Yes.

Marlena: What did you do next? Did you leave?

Lucas: No. No, I started slicing another lemon for my drink, and that’s when I heard a noise from upstairs.

Gwen: There’s just so much that I wish I’d done differently.

Kristen: Regrets are a waste of time, sister.

Gwen: All I have is bloody time. You were right. If I had been more clever, careful, if I hadn’t made so many stupid mistakes, I’d still be with xander.

Kristen: You are better off without him. The guy is a monster who made me think that my baby was dead.

Gwen: That’s only because he couldn’t bear to tell sarah that she’d lost her own.

Kristen: Oh, oh. So…he did it for love, and that makes it okay?

Gwen: No, I didn’t say that.

Kristen: Oh, good, good. Good, because what–what he did was sick and wrong and twisted.

[Sighs] I mean, sarah did give me rachel back. I mean, I did have to chase her all the way to paris.

Gwen: So you don’t blame her, then?

Kristen: No. No, I don’T. She was a grieving mother. And xander made her pain a thousand times worse with his lies.

[Chuckles] So hey, if she wants to be with him, let her have him. You just gotta sit back and relax and just watch their relationship combust on its own.

Gwen: Yeah, like that’s ever gonna happen.

Kristen: [Chuckles] I don’t know. What I’ve seen is, uh, sarah is still a bit…off.

Maggie: Come on. As worried as I am about lucas…

Sarah: Mm-hmm.

Maggie: Right now, I want to hear from you. How are you doing, sweetheart?

Sarah: I’m doing better. Yeah, I, uh–my hallucinations are under control, thanks to my meds. And…I haven’t had a kristen sighting in a couple days, which is good.

Maggie: I’m glad. You know, I was really worried that what gwen did to you would keep you from getting on with your life.

Sarah: Yeah, I don’t think that you have to be worried. I’m, um… I’m hopeful about the future. And I want to seize the day.

Maggie: Okay.

Sarah: So…are you busy?

Maggie: Uh, no. [Chuckles] Why?

Sarah: Xander and I were wondering if you would marry us.

Maggie: Oh, now?

Sarah: Mm-hmm. Yeah, we don’t want to wait. He’s–he’s picking up my ring as we speak, and then we’ll be good to go.

Maggie: [Sighs] Are you sure that’s what you want?

Sarah: More than anything.

Maggie: Well, I know that’s what xander wants.

Sarah: [Chuckles]

Maggie: I saw him while you were gone, and he was a broken man. I mean, all those months, he never–he never got over you.

Sarah: Well, he doesn’t have to. I’m back. And we can finally start our life together.

Jada: Did you find the murder weapon?

Rafe: The knife? Not yet. But there is another person of interest in the mix.

Jada: Oh?

Rafe: Yeah.

Jada: And you’re looking into it?

Rafe: Yeah. But the description that clyde provided has been, well, let’s say less than helpful. So at the moment, uh, lucas is the person of interest that we’re focusing on. Speaking of which, I should get back to the station, see if there’s anything new. You coming?

Jada: Does that mean I got the job?

Rafe: Welcome to salem pd.

Marlena: Lucas, tell me about what you heard.

Lucas: I’m not sure.

Marlena: What did you do next?

Lucas: I walked towards the foyer, and I heard some sort of commotion, so I stopped.

Marlena: And then?

Lucas: I saw someone rushing down the stairs toward the front door.

Marlena: Who was it?

[Suspenseful music]

Lucas: Oh, my god.

Migraine attacks?

Maggie: Sarah, are you almost ready?

[Sighs]

Sarah: [Giggles] Well? What do you think? It’s not bad after months in storage on a tropical island.

Maggie: Sweetheart, you look beautiful.

Sarah: [Chuckles]

Xander: I’ll second that.

Sarah: [Gasps]

Maggie: [Gasps]

Sarah: Oh! You clean up so nice.

Xander: Well, especially since I have this.

Sarah: Is that the sporran I got you?

Xander: It is. I found it with the note that you left me after I thought you’d left me. You were right. No kilt would be complete without it.

Sarah: Just like I’m not complete without you.

Xander: Well, in addition to being very handsome, it’s also quite practical. Look.

Sarah: [Gasps] You got my ring back. They still had it. Thank god.

Xander: If they hadn’t, I’d have gone to the ends of the earth to track it down for you.

Sarah: Hmm. So all we need now are wedding bands.

Xander: Hmm, as I said, very practical.

Sarah: [Chuckles]

Maggie: [Laughs] Well, I believe we have everything now. So come on, let’s get on with this thing. Let’s make you husband and wife.

Clyde: I wish I could tell you how much I’d like to waltz into one of them fancy jewelry stores and just buy the most expensive bracelet they got. But I can’t afford that. So if I’m gonna give you the kind of present you deserve, I gotta cut corners.

Nancy: Clyde, you don’t have to give me fancy gifts to impress me.

Clyde: Well, that’s what you’re used to, isn’t it? I mean, I’m guessing that doctor ex-husband of yours would give you anything that you wanted.

Nancy: [Chuckles] Except for the one thing I wanted most, clyde. A man who loved me.

Clyde: He didn’t love you?

Nancy: No. He di–he does. Clyde, craig was never in love with me.

Clyde: Yeah.

Nancy: He spent years lying to me and to himself.

Clyde: Well, that’s tough.

Nancy: So, um, the best– the most valuable thing that you could ever give me is honesty.

Clyde: Okay. From here on out, it’s nothing but the god’s honest truth. Though I do have to say that even though I lied to you about how I acquired that bracelet, I wasn’t lying about who I got it from.

Nancy: Some guy.

Clyde: Yeah. I just wish I could remember exactly what he looked like.

Rafe: So there are a couple empty desks. You can feel free to take…

Marlena: Rafe…

Rafe: Either one. Yes? And this is dr. Marlena evans, the psychiatrist who hypnotized lucas horton.

Marlena: Nice to meet you.

Jada: Dr. Evans.

Rafe: So how’d it go? Was lucas able to remember anything about the night abigail was murdered?

Marlena: Yes. Absolutely.

Nancy: The police have someone in custody right now.

Clyde: You don’t sound too happy about that.

Nancy: Well, I’ve– I’ve known this person for years, and I don’t think it’s possible for him to have killed abigail. I mean, I– clyde… I want you to take a look at this picture and tell me if this is the person who sold you the bracelet.

Clyde: Well, that’s lucas. Kate’s boy. It wasn’t him.

Nancy: [Sighs]

Clyde: No.

[Scoffs] I wish I could figure out who this weasel was, make him pay for what he did to me.

Nancy: [Chuckles] I just had to deal with my own little weasel. Leo stark. The man that my husband left me for.

Clyde: You ask me, he did you a favor. He did me one too.

Nancy: Thank you. That’s very sweet, clyde, but…

[Sighs] Leo stark is pond scum. He makes whoever sold you that bracelet look like a prince.

Clyde: Well, maybe. But if I find out who it is, little hustler who jammed me up, man, there’s gonna be trouble.

Lucas: What did rafe say?

Marlena: He said don’t worry. He’s on it.

[Phone beeps]

Rafe: Chad, wanted to give you a heads up, I’m bringing in a person of interest.

Maggie: We are gathered here today to join this man and this woman in holy matrimony. If anyone can show just cause as to why these two people should not be joined in marriage– I can’t imagine who that might be, but speak now, or forever hold your peace.

Jada: I can.

Gwen: What do you mean, sarah seems off?

Kristen: Well, before I was transferred here, she came to visit me at the police station in salem. She chewed me out for ruining her life. Told me that she was still having hallucinations. Apparently she sees me everywhere.

Gwen: So I heard.

Kristen: Yeah, it seems like she’s, uh, still feeling that aftereffect of the second jab you gave her. So cheer up, gwennie. If sarah is stuck in crazy town, then maybe she and xander won’t be riding off into the sunset after all.

Maggie: Who are you?

Jada: Detective jada hunter, salem pd.

Maggie: And you have an objection to this marriage?

Sarah: Do you know her?

Xander: Never seen her before in my life.

Jada: I’m afraid I have to bring you in for questioning.

Maggie: Oh, no, xander. What have you done now?

Jada: Not him. Her. I’m here for dr. Sarah horton.

Sonny: Morning.

Will: Morning. Oh, my gosh, it’s so late. Why didn’t you wake me up?

Sonny: You had a late night. I thought you could use the rest. Yesterday was…pretty rough.

Will: Yeah, I was kind of hoping that everything thappened with my dad was just a horrible nightmare.

Sonny: Well, I kind of wish I could tell you it was.

Lucas: Ow.

[Door opens] Jj, listen to me–

Jj: I just came from the courthouse. I heard that you pled not guilty to kidnapping sami. Even after you admitted that you did to a room full of people. Maybe now you want to admit that you killed my sister?

Kate: Roman told you.

Marlena: You’re damn right he did. Do not come back here.

Kate: Okay. I need your help.

Marlena: You know who needed my help? My daughter needed my help. When your son kidnapped her, and terrorized her… and you said nothing? You covered for him.

Kate: Sami is fine.

Marlena: Sami is fine, physically. In every other way, she is a mess.

Kate: Okay, look, I’m sorry.

Marlena: You’re sorry? Really, you’re sorry because you got caught. Look, it’s bad enough that you knew that your son had kidnapped my daughter and you said nothing about it, but then you sat in that church in front of god and everybody and you were about to allow your son to marry my daughter.

Kate: Okay, for the record, when I learned about lucas, what he had done, sami was already free.

Marlena: Well, you know what? Ej wasn’t free.

Ej: Samantha says she’s leaving salem for good. I think she means it. You know, father, you always taught me that there’s nothing more important than family. And look what I’ve done. I’ve lost samantha, disrespected belle, christian’s turned on me, and I’ve alienated my grieving brother. I haven’t seen or heard from chad in days.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Xander: Oh, bummer. You got dressed.

Sarah: Honey, I left you in there about a half an hour ago.

Xander: I was exfoliating. I rinse the mask off too soon, it doesn’t achieve its full effect.

Sarah: Mm-hmm. You do realize that your skincare routine is about 10 times more elaborate than mine?

Xander: That’s because you’re a natural beauty, darling. The rest of us have to work at it.

Sarah: Oh, is that so?

Xander: Mm-hmm.

Sarah: Well, I happen to think that you are irresistible just the way you are. So, now that you are all scrubbed and polished, are you gonna stand around in that towel all day or what?

Xander: If that’s what you want.

Sarah: I’ll show you what I want.

Xander: Mmm. That’s what I want too.

[Sarah giggles]

Kate: Thank you for letting me in.

Marlena: I didn’t want the neighbors to hear my tirade. Kate, I’ve always known that you could be a little selfish, but I never dreamed that you would let an innocent man rot in prison for a crime he did not commit.

Kate: Ej is hardly an innocent man.

Marlena: He did not kidnap sami. And he did not deserve to go to prison for a crime your son committed.

Kate: Oh, what about all the other crimes that he committed that he never paid for?

Marlena: It doesn’t work like that, kate. You can’t take something that ej did in the past and try to make him pay for it instead of what your son needs to pay for.

Kate: Okay, well, you know, I actually did feel badly for ej and that’s why I led belle to the evidence that exonerated him.

Marlena: And what about sami? Did you feel sorry for her? Because she was the victim of a horrendous crime.

Kate: Oh, please. Sami is nobody’s victim.

Chad: I saw sami on my way in. She leaving town?

Ej: She’ll be back. Her parents are here and her children.

Chad: I thought that now that she knows you didn’t kidnap her, I thought maybe the two of you had a shot of getting back together.

Ej: [Small laugh] So did I.

Chad: Look, um… I’m here because I owe you an apology. I was wrong. Not just wrong. It was, um–I– I made a terrible accusation blaming you for abigail’s death. I was angry that you didn’t tell me that clyde weston threatened our family, but I shouldn’t have gone off on you the way that I did. I jumped to the conclusion that clyde was the one that killed abby… and now it’s clear that it’s someone else.

Lucas: You know how much I loved abigail.

Jj: You loved sami too. Didn’t stop you from hurting her.

Lucas: I know you’re in pain, and I’m sorry.

Jj: I don’t want your damn sympathy. I want answers. And I’m not leaving until I get them. So did you do it? Did you kill my sister?

Lucas: I don’t know.

Jj: How can you not know if you stabbed someone to death?

Lucas: Because I don’t remember anything.

Jj: I can imagine you would wanna forget doing something that horrible– the terror in her eyes, her screaming, crying, begging you to stop… all that blood!

Lucas: Yeah, I understand. I wanted to remember everything, but I can’t because I was drunk. I was–I blacked out!

Jj: Then why do you look so damn guilty?

Lucas: Because I’m ashamed. I hate myself for what I did. I hate myself for kidnapping sami, I hate myself for falling off the wagon, and I hate myself for not knowing what I did after!

Jj: Maybe you just need a little help.

Lucas: What?

Jj: You don’t seem to be having much luck on your own. So maybe I could jog your memory. Maybe I just need to beat the truth out of you! Once upon a time, before jill said yes.

Marlena: I’m aware that sami has gone to extremes when it comes to helping her family. That does not excuse lucas.

Kate: Okay. Lucas made a mistake, but he doesn’t deserve to go to prison.

Marlena: He was just arraigned for kidnapping his fiancé. And he’s under suspicion for killing his niece.

Kate: Lucas isn’t capable of killing anyone, marlena.

Marlena: You know, in my profession, there’s a concept we call “denial.”

Kate: Okay, look, I know that you’re angry. You have every right to be angry. But you don’t really believe that lucas killed abigail, do you?

Ej: I’m sorry again about clyde. I should’ve told you right away that he threatened to hurt our family if I told anyone he was responsible for my shooting.

Chad: Yes, you should’ve.

Ej: I thought making a deal with him was the best way to protect everyone. But as soon as I heard that he was arrested in connection with abigail’s murder, I couldn’t keep quiet any longer. So I went to rafe, and it was too little, too late. You were right, chad. I was arrogant and selfish thinking that I had this all under control.

Chad: It’s the dimera way.

Ej: Hmm. As is putting family first. I am going to help you get justice for your wife. Whatever it takes. So, now we know clyde has an air-tight alibi–

Chad: And lucas does not.

Lucas: You want to hit me? Go head.

Jj: Were you in my sister’s house that night? Did you go up to her room?

Lucas: I don’t know.

Jj: Think! Did you ask abigail to keep quiet about what you did to sami? When she refused, you stabbed her? Ended her life? Answer me!

Lucas: I don’t know! I told you, I told everybody I don’t know! I want to remember, but I can’t, all right? I wish to god I could, but I just can’T.

Jj: Then I guess I’ll have to beat it out of you.

Jennifer: [Gasps] Jj, stop!

Xander: Oh, look at you. You’re glowing and you didn’t even have to exfoliate.

Sarah: Yeah, it’s a gift and a curse.

[Giggling] I think what we just did is better than anything you can buy in a store.

Xander: Well, you know what they say– can’t have too much of a good thing.

Sarah: I can’t, I can’t, I can’T. I have to go to the hospital and pick up a refill of my prescription.

Xander: The adjusted dose seems to be working, yeah?

Sarah: Mm-hmm, yeah, yeah, I haven’t had any hallucinations in a few days, which is just so great, but I don’t think it’s enough that we’re out of the woods yet.

Xander: Well, I’m very optimistic.

Sarah: Yeah, I’m just– I’m so grateful that I didn’t hurt anyone all those times that I saw kristen, you know? I would… I’d never be able to forgive myself.

Xander: I’m so sorry you’re still dealing with all this.

Sarah: Yeah. Well, hopefully it’s done and our life can just finally go back to normal.

Xander: I wish I could say the same for my best mate.

Sarah: Yeah. I noticed that you didn’t talk to jack much at abigail’s funeral.

Xander: Oh, you know, he was surrounded by family. I didn’t want to intrude.

Sarah: I bet he’d really like to hear from you. And better in person.

Xander: Yeah, you’re right. I should stop by. Offer my condolences. And to jennifer too, of course.

Sarah: Mm-hmm.

Jennifer: Jj, what are you doing?

Jj: Trying to find out if your brother killed my sister!

Jennifer: No, let him go! Let him go!

Jj: Not till he answers me!

Jennifer: Jj! Jj, please! I need you to listen to me! I need you to look at me, okay? I need you to let go of lucas and I need you to look at me! Look at me!

Jj: Mom.

Jennifer: Sweetheart, I know, I know, I know.

Jj: [Whispers] She’s gone. Abigail’s gone, and I need– I need to understand it. I need it to make sense.

Jennifer: I understand, I know, I know. We all do. And we all want answers, sweetheart. We all want answers, every single one of us. And when we get those answers, and I promise you, I promise you we will get those answers. Your sister being taken from us is never gonna make sense. I’m sorry.

[Exhales] It was wrong of him to put his hands on you.

Lucas: You and jj have every right to be furious with me. You do. You can yell at me, you can hit me, do whatever you want.

Jennifer: Hit you? I wouldn’t hit you.

Lucas: Why not?

Jennifer: Because you’re my brother, and I love you.

Lucas: Stop. I’m not worthy of that, not now.

Jennifer: Don’t say that!

Lucas: It’s the truth. I made a terrible choice. It wasn’t a slip-up, it was a choice. I chose to drink that night. I knew what would happen if I drank–I knew my life would be turned upside-down, but I did it anyway because of me, because of my pain. I wanted to numb my own pain. I didn’t care about the pain I caused other people.

Jennifer: Lucas. You are a good person.

Lucas: No, I’m not! I’m a coward! I didn’t come clean until my back was against the wall! Don’t you understand that? I did this, jen. I lied. I denied. I framed ej. I did that on my own! So if I go to prison, if I go to a psych ward, or if I get the death penalty, I don’t care. I don’t care because I deserve it.

Sonny: Will, I cannot imagine your father killing anyone let alone his own niece.

Will: It’s like I told allie. If you’d asked me a week ago if my dad was capable of killing anyone, I would’ve said no. Crazy. But I just found out he kidnapped mom. He kept her captive for months.

Sonny: That was totally different! He was scared and terrified he was gonna lose the person he loves the most. Both you and I know what that’s like. And it’s a huge jump from kidnapping to murder.

Will: It’s not that huge, if you’re drunk and you’re desperate. He truly thought he was about to lose everything.

Sonny: And he thought that killing abigail was the solution?

Will: He wasn’t thinking, sonny, that’s what I’m saying. He was operating on emotion, on adrenalin, on fear. He like spent months building up this whole house of cards, and it was about to crash down.

Sonny: Will.

Will: He has the motive, he had the means, he had the opportunity–he has this huge gash on his hand.

Sonny: Will. Will.

Will: That looks bad! How do you explain that?

Sonny: Will. Breathe. Okay? Can you really imagine your father stabbing abigail?

Will: I couldn’t imagine us rolling leo stark’s dead body up into a rug, but we did.

Sonny: That’s totally different.

Will: How? It was anger that turned to violence. My dad was angry and scared. It is entirely possible that he got drunk, he went to confront abigail, things got heated, and he did what he thought he had to do to keep from losing my mom.

Sonny: No. No, I don’t think that’s what happened.

Will: I mean, I hope you’re right. This is all speculation anyway. I don’t know what happened. You don’t know what happened. He doesn’t know what happened. He doesn’t remember anything about that night.

Kate: Even after what he did to sami, there is no way that lucas could’ve killed abigail. No way. I don’t care how drunk he was.

Marlena: What are you doing here? What do you want from me?

Kate: I want you to help my son.

Ej: I knew from the start that lucas was responsible for samantha’s kidnapping but no one believed me. And to add insult to injury, according to roman, kate knew he was guilty and said nothing and was perfectly happy for me to take the fall. I mean, kate and I have had our differences, but I never expected that level of treachery from her.

Chad: But what about from me?

Ej: I’m sorry?

Chad: Kate wasn’t the only one who knew lucas was behind the kidnapping. I did too. I knew you were innocent all along. So I said, “yeah you’re saving hundreds

Will: My mom texted me. She’s leaving salem. And she vows to never, ever, ever come back to this. And the rest is… uh, just profanity.

Sonny: Mmm. Well, she’s very upset, very understandably. Okay, but once she calms down, I promise you she’ll come right back to town.

Will: Can you please distract me from all of this?

Sonny: Okay, well, how about…[Imitates drums] A sweet treat from sweet bits? I got you a blueberry scone.

Will: Oh!

Sonny: And an iced coffee.

Will: Oh, my favorite. Thank you.

Sonny: Mm-hmm. Oh my god, you’re like a scone monster. You’re getting crumbs all over the bed.

Will: Maybe you can help me with that?

Sonny: All over your chest.

Will: Mm-hmm. Get it off. Ohh…

Xander: I’m just so sorry about abigail, jack. I wish I had the words.

Jack: Well, sometimes words are overrated. I saw you at the funeral.

Xander: I wanted to approach you, but… I just kept my distance out of respect.

Jack: And fear of julie.

Xander: Yeah, that too.

Jack: I’m glad you were there, xander. It meant a lot to see you there.

Xander: So many people loved your little girl.

Jack: It was A…[Sniffles] Such a lovely service, wasn’t it? I can’t believe we got through it.

Xander: You’re really strong, jack.

Jack: Yeah. I had jennifer there by my side the whole time. Thank god chad had his brother.

Ej: When did you know it was lucas?

Chad: When I caught lucas planting evidence on a dimera computer.

Ej: The evidence that led to my false imprisonment.

Chad: Ej, I know it was wrong, but I was so angry at you that you kept trying to get under my skin. Johnny’s movie, trying to cut me out of dimera.

Ej: And by conspiring with lucas to frame me, you could run the company on your own. You get what you want, he gets what he wants.

[Light laugh] Makes perfect sense.

Chad: I’ll be honest. I was fine with you getting booted from dimera. But as soon as belle told me that you could be sentenced to 10 years, I– I couldn’t go through with it. I planned to come clean at your trial. I was gonna say that I planted all of the evidence, then I saw you, what I thought was you, forcing yourself on my wife at the courthouse.

Ej: When the devil morphed into me.

Chad: You hurt me, and I wanted to punish you.

Ej: I’m the one in the family that everyone says is as ruthless as father. Turns out I’m not alone. You said you were planning to testify that you planted the evidence. What about lucas?

Chad: I promised kate I wouldn’t implicate him.

Ej: [Laughs] Oh, how big of you.

Chad: All I cared about was keeping you out of prison. I figured that lucas would hang himself eventually. I didn’t see the point in bringing him down with me.

Ej: Ah. And I’m sure kate appreciated that very much. Probably why she didn’t throw you under the bus when I confronted her.

Lucas: Why are you here?

Jennifer: To tell you that I know you loved my daughter, and I know you didn’t do this.

Lucas: You can’t say that, jen, you don’t know that.

Jennifer: Why did you keep this to yourself? You were sitting there comforting me over the loss of my daughter, and all that time you were thinking that you were the one that might’ve hurt her? Why didn’t you just tell me?

Lucas: I guess I was scared. I was really scared. I kept thinking about what happened with will and how we almost lost him and it was devastating. It was devastating to think I inflicted that same kind of pain on you, my very own sister.

Jennifer: I wish you would’ve just…told me.

Lucas: I couldn’t have told you then. I didn’t want to put that on you. You were going through too much.

[Crying] But you know what? Every time I looked at this bandage and I every time I looked at that bottle that I drank, I thought of abigail. I thought about how much I loved her. I remember when she was little and she used to sit on my lap and I used to read her those nancy drew books all the time.

[Jennifer laughs] And I remember that one year I gave her that pink typewriter for her 10th birthday I think it was, and I remember she used to type out the salem news all the time. Do you remember that?

Jennifer: Yeah, I do.

[Weepy laugh]

Lucas: She wanted to be a reporter just like her parents. She was doing it, you know? She was on her way, and she turned into a beautiful woman with two beautiful children, a wife to a husband she loved. And now…now they’re gonna have to go on without her. So the reason–the reason I didn’t tell you is because I could barely tell myself. I could barely tell myself that I might be responsible and it might be me that… that I took abigail away.

Chad: Ej. I’m truly sorry for what I did. These past few weeks, you’ve been there for me and for my children. You opened your heart and you were a true brother. And I just hope that you can somehow find a way to forgive me.

Ej: I have to give the matter careful consideration. Your betrayal has cost me a great deal… including what may have been my last chance with samantha.

[Quiet, somber music]

I know you’ve just lost your wife. And I respect you admitting this to me.

Chad: I just really hope that we can find a way to get past this.

Ej: Ironic, isn’t it? You slam me for not reporting clyde weston, yet you did the same with lucas. Kept quiet about his crimes, allowed him to remain free. And that may very well have cost abigail her life. I have moderate to severe plaque psoriasis.

Xander: I’m surprised to hear ej stepped up for chad.

Jack: Well, abigail brought out the best in everyone.

Xander: Except maybe gwen. I’m sorry, mate. It was stupid of me to bring it up.

Jack: Xander, you don’t have to tiptoe around me–I know that you had your issues with abigail as well.

Xander: At first, I… I did blame her for leaving that syringe in the secret room of the dimera house, but… then I realized your daughter wasn’t responsible–she had no way of knowing it’d be used to hurt the woman I love.

Jack: That drug warped abigail’s mind. She felt awful about what happened to her cousin, how much she was suffering.

Xander: Yeah, but in true abigail fashion, she actually did something about it. And she got to the bottom of kristen’s crazy scheme, found sarah on that deserted island, and she risked her own life to bring her home to me.

Sarah: Jj. Hey. I barely had a chance to talk to you at the funeral. I just wanna, um… I want to tell you, I’m so sorry, again. What’s going on?

Jj: I, uh…just came from the police station where I confronted lucas. I asked him if he killed my sister.

Sarah: Oh. What did he say?

Jj: He doesn’t remember.

Sarah: Do you believe him?

Jj: I don’t know what to believe.

Sarah: I know that rafe is going to fight for justice, just like abigail would.

Jj: Yeah. I heard that you were injected with the same drug as abigail. How you doing?

Sarah: Uh… better, you know? But I got a double dose of that drug, so it’s taking a lot longer to get it out of my system. I have hallucinations. I see kristen everywhere. Just…wanting to kill her.

Lucas: I must be losing my mind.

Jennifer: Will you, uh… will you do something for me?

Lucas: Anything.

Jennifer: Will you forget that I’m your sister… and just…just talk to me like I’m a reporter.

Lucas: All right. I’ll tell you whatever you want to know.

Jennifer: Okay. Great. I want to know everything. Let’s start with the kidnapping.

Lucas: I was desperate to get sami back, and I did something insane. I, uh, I kept her locked up where no one could find her. But she was safe. She was safe the whole time.

Jennifer: And, uh, you set ej up, you sent him to prison.

Lucas: Yeah. Yeah, but I mean, it worked out because he was released. And sami thought he was guilty, so I thought I was gonna get everything that I wanted. Then I found out that abigail knew about the kidnapping.

Jennifer: And then what did you do?

Lucas: I panicked because I didn’t know if she was gonna tell anybody, and I knew if she told people, that I would lose sami and she’d go back to ej and I’d end up in prison.

Jennifer: And after you talked to your mother?

Lucas: I knew I was done. I knew I-I had one final night of freedom, so I went crazy and I polished the bottle. I drank myself into oblivion.

Jennifer: And you don’t remember anything you did that night?

Lucas: No! I told jj. I’m telling you now. I’ve wracked my brain. I don’t know anything. I want to remember, I need to remember. Not knowing is killing me.

Kate: I mean, you know from personal experience how painful it is when someone you care about has no memory.

Marlena: Well, if we were talking about somebody that I care about, I might be inclined to help.

Kate: You cared about abigail, didn’t you?

Marlena: Very much.

Kate: Then hate me. Hate lucas. But do it for abigail. Because if you help my son get answers, you’ll help get justice for abigail too. I was on an antidepressant,

Will: Can we stay like this forever?

Sonny: Mm. You mean blissfully in love?

Will: Yes, but, um, I mean literally like this. Just the two of us in bed, shutting out the outside world.

Sonny: Except ari.

Will: Oh yeah. And blueberry scones.

[Both laughing]

Sonny: Sounds like a plan.

[Phone chimes] And so much for shutting out the rest of the world.

Will: Sorry. Oh my god.

Sonny: What?

Will: Looks like my mom might not be the only person leaving salem.

Sarah: Just, uh, picked up a refill of my meds.

Jj: Are they working?

Sarah: Getting there.

Jj: Abigail beat rolf’s drug. I’m sure you can too.

Sarah: You know, um, when i had my first hallucination, I was…I was really scared. And I thought that I would never be cured again. And marlena suggested that I should talk to abigail because she’d been through it. And the night she died, I was going to. Maybe if I had gone, I could’ve stopped the killer.

Jj: Or you would’ve been killed too.

Sarah: I just can’t help but think–

Jj: Yeah, I keep having the same thought, sarah. Same guilt. But I have to keep reminding myself that the only person responsible for taking my sister away from us is the person who murdered her.

Sarah: Do you really think it was lucas?

Jj: I really hope not. But whoever it was… god help them when they face me.

Xander: Well, I hope it’s at least a bit of a comfort for you and jennifer to… to have jj back, I mean.

Jack: Unfortunately, nothing is much of a comfort right now.

Xander: I understand. And as if jennifer isn’t already in enough pain, now her… her brother’s a suspect?

Jack: I’m praying for his sake and ours that he didn’t do it.

Xander: Well, no matter what, I’m here for you, mate. I hope you know that.

Jack: I do. So you– tell me about you and sarah.

Xander: Well, kristen caused a lot of damage. We’re still feeling the effects.

Jack: But still… you got a–you got a chance to start again with the woman that you love.

Xander: I do. And I realize just… just how lucky that makes me.

Lucas: My mother went to talk to marlena, and she thinks that if I get put under hypnosis that it’ll all come back to me. But I don’t know why she’d help me after everything I did to sami.

Jennifer: And I am sure marlena would do whatever it takes to…find out what happened to abigail.

Marlena: She’s right about that. W as ktonowhat happened to theirs. A

[Dramatic music]

Pool floaties are like whooping cough.

Will: Remember that streaming service I wrote the “alamainian peacock” miniseries for?

Sonny: Yeah, you did the movie “a very salem christmas” for them too.

Will: Yes, exactly. So I pitched a bunch of new projects to them, and they want to do one.

Sonny: Oh my god, will! That–that’s incredible. What’s–what’s the project?

Will: Well, it’s top secret, of course, but what I can tell you is that they want me to come to la. Possibly to direct.

Sonny: Oh my god, that’s an amazing opportunity.

Will: I know, it is. But I have to turn it down, ’cause I…I gotta stay here for my dad.

Sonny: Are you ser– will. Your dad wouldn’t want you to put your entire life on hold.

Will: Well…[Sighs] What about you and ari?

Sonny: We’d be fine. She’s on summer vacation. She’s very flexible. Okay? And once she’s back in school, we’ll come visit you out in la, you can come visit here. I mean, it’ll work out perfectly.

Will: Are you sure?

Sonny: Yes, a thousand percent.

Will: Okay. I love you.

Sonny: I love you.

Lucas: I want you to know how incredibly sorry I am about what I did to sami.

Marlena: Your mother asked me if I would hypnotize you… in hopes of helping you remember what happened the night that… abigail was killed.

Lucas: I’m grateful you agreed.

Marlena: I’m not doing this for you. I’m not doing this for kate. I’m doing it for abigail and her family. Rafe is letting me do this with the understanding that nothing discussed here will end up in court. But we all think it’s important to find out the truth about what happened.

Lucas: I need to know if I did this.

Marlena: Then let’s begin.

Kate: Marlena has agreed to hypnotize lucas. Maybe he can remember what happened the night abigail died.

Ej: Oh, kate, I’m glad you’re here.

Kate: Really? I thought that I was your enemy.

Ej: Indeed. And now chad is as well.

Chad: What? I thought that you said that you were gonna take time to think it over.

Ej: Oh, I have. And my first thought was to have you both thrown in prison, but upon further reflection, I believe there’s another way you can make restitution.

Kate: Oh, boy. What’s that?

Ej: If you wish to remain free, you both have to sign over your dimera shares to me.

Xander: Got your meds I see.

Sarah: Mm-hmm. Did you see jack?

Xander: I did. And while he was talking about abigail, I was reminded of something. That we have to make the most of each and every day.

Sarah: I wholeheartedly agree. So, how shall we make the most of today?

Xander: Well, I was thinking that maybe…

Sarah: Yes?

Xander: You and I…

Sarah: Yes?

Xander: Could get married.

Sami: Mom, u don’t have time for a therapy session with me today.

Sami: My other option was to stay in bed and cry into my pillow all day, so…

Marlena: Yeah. What I do know about you is, when you really get hurt, you’re able to build this wall all the way around yourself. You know what amazes me? That you even got up this morning and that you were even able to get yourself dressed.

Sami: I’m fine.

Marlena: I know you are.

Sami: It’s–it’s just…

[Sighs]

Marlena: It’s just that what?

Sami: When I slow down, when I stop and think about it for a second, I think I might cry, and I’m pretty sure if I start crying, I am not gonna be able to stop.

Lucas: You didn’t have to come.

Kate: I know I didn’T.

Lucas: Actually, I don’t want you here. I’ve put you through enough.

Kate: Okay, one of the perks of having a terrible mother is that you don’t have to worry about hurting her feelings.

Lucas: I mean it. I don’t want you to see me like this.

Kate: Okay. Well, I don’t want to see you like this either, and that’s why I have hired the best defense attorney in the midwest. And they are going to get you out of here because you are going to beat this.

Lucas: Not if I plead guilty.

Ej: Johnny’s not here.

Roman: I didn’t come to see him.

Ej: Uh-huh.

Roman: I came to see you.

[Knocking at door]

Brady: Where were you? I’ve been knocking for, like, five minutes.

Chloe: Hey. What are you doing here?

Brady: Well, I’m back in town. I wanted to see my girl.

Chloe: Well, you didn’t call me; I thought you were coming back tomorrow.

Brady: Well, this isn’t a very nice homecoming. You know, there was a time when you used to like…surprises. Chloe, what’s going on? There someone in the bathroom?

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Ej: Would you like a coffee? Juice?

Roman: Oh, no. No, I’m good. Thank you.

Ej: Did you literally mean you came to see me? That usually implies to see and talk.

Roman: [Chuckles] This is not easy for me to say. I owe you an apology.

Ej: [Chuckles] It seems there really is a first time for everything.

Roman: I’m saying sorry. Maybe you could lose the smirk.

Ej: Oh, excuse me. I’m afraid I was a little taken aback. We are on new ground here.

Roman: Yeah, because I have never been wrong about you before, but I was wrong this time. I blamed you for kidnapping sami. And hell, I’m a cop. I should know better than to rush to judgment.

Ej: Samantha’s your daughter. I’m not always impartial about my children either, especially when someone does them harm.

Roman: I misjudged lucas even more than I did you.

Ej: I wouldn’t be too hard on you myself. He fooled everyone.

Roman: Not everyone.

Ej: Someone was on to him?

Roman: His mother.

Kate: This is no time for jokes, and that was in particularly bad taste.

Lucas: I’m not joking. I’m serious.

Kate: Lucas, if you plead guilty, you could go to prison for life.

Lucas: The punishment would fit the crime. I kidnapped sami, and I pinned it on an innocent man.

Kate: Okay, ej is a lot of things. Innocent isn’t one of them.

Lucas: No more, mom. No more.

Kate: What do you mean “no more”? No more what?

Lucas: No more covering for me. No more blaming my victims. No more cleaning up my messes. I did this on my own. I have to face the consequences, okay?

Marlena: Honey, we were all so wrong about lucas.

Sami: And you know what’s really awful? I mean, not just awful like “he kidnapped me” awful, ’cause that’s, you know, hall of fame awful, but also what’s awful is how I spent all night laying there in bed. I was only able to sleep for, like, ten minutes at a time because I was just–because I was just thinking about him.

Marlena: Of course you were.

Sami: And it wasn’t just what he did to me. Mom, I was thinking about all of it. Everything. I was… I was thinking about this one time when he and I–when we taught will how to dance. I was thinking about this other time where I tried to make cookies– and I bake just as well as you do– and he was helping me, and we made this–we made this big mess in my kitchen. And then one time, I got in a fight with the rude parents, these moms, and lucas was right there by my side. He was ready to get in a food fight with me ’cause he was my friend. And so, yeah. Yeah, last year, I was having trouble in my marriage, and I confided in him. I confided in lucas because he was my friend, because of everything that we have been through. And last night, he just– it’s like he blew it all up right in my face, you know? That’s what he did.

Marlena: Yeah. Sami. I know how upset you were, and I know that you came in at bride’s room and you threw your rings across the room and you– and you stormed out, and I’m– I’m wondering where you went.

Sami: I–I went to see ej.

Marlena: Mm. How was that?

Sami: Not great. He was…otherwise engaged.

Chloe: Yeah, brady, there is someone in there. It’s the person that I spent the night with. Do you want to knock down the door and fight them?

Brady: I don’t find this very funny.

Belle: I’m sorry to be such a nuisance.

Brady: Oh.

Belle: Oh, hey, brady.

Brady: Hi.

Chloe: Not even a little bit funny?

Kayla: Hey. You know, we can really hire somebody to put that together.

Steve: Waste of money. I’m almost done.

Kayla: Right.

Shawn: I think that he’s asleep. I don’t know. I don’t know whether or not i should leave him or what, so…

Kayla: Well, you know what? I brought some baby monitors, and that way, you can hear when he cries. And in fact, I put them all over the house, so there’s gonna be no getting away from him.

[Baby crying] Oh, there it is. I’ll go check on your son. Maybe you could help steve put this stroller together.

Steve: I don’t need any help.

Kayla: As he says through clenched teeth.

Steve: [Sighs] It might be easier if the manual wasn’t 1×2 centimeters. I mean, the stroller’s the size of a hummer, and the instructions are, what, smaller than a postage stamp.

Shawn: [Exhales sharply]

Steve: Aw, dude, come on. You got this.

Shawn: No, what I got is, I’ve got you and aunt kayla showing up and, you know, acting like this is normal and, you know, that this baby is a good thing, that he’s not what belle called him–like an obstacle. I can’t tell you how much this means to me.

Steve: Listen to me, buddy. That little baby in there, that’s bo’s grandson. Bo was kayla’s brother and my best friend in the whole world, so that means that little guy is stuck with us for life. And so are you.

Shawn: [Sighs] You want a beer?

Steve: It’s 9:00 in the morning!

Shawn: I mean, guys, they have beers when they put together strollers.

Steve: You make a good point. Like pulsing, electric shocks,

Kate: Okay, well, I’m not going to let you wallow in your guilt, as soothing as you seem to find it.

Lucas: You want me to just shrug off the fact that I kidnapped a woman and held her captive?

Kate: No, what I want you to do is think. Think about it. Focus and think.

Lucas: I am thinking about it. I’m thinking about what I’ve done and what kind of man I am.

Kate: Yeah. No, that’s not thinking. That’s wallowing. So, right now, this morning, I want you to think about someone other than yourself. How about your children?

Lucas: If I plead guilty, my children won’t have to worry about me. They won’t have to go through a horrible trial. They won’t have to read headlines about their loser, drunk father who kidnapped their mother.

Kate: If you plead–if you plead guilty to kidnapping, that will all but make chad’s case, just like that, and you’ll be charged with abigail’s murder. Do you think that’s gonna be good for your children, lucas?

Ej: Kate knew about lucas? How long has she known?

Roman: January 5th.

Ej: Blimey. That is quite early on the game, isn’t it?

Roman: Yep. She kept it all to herself until she found out it was all gonna come out anyway and there was nothing she could do to stop it.

Ej: Ah, and then she was really, really sorry.

Roman: She did say that, and I do believe her.

Ej: Yeah, that just must have been last night. And now, here you are, bright and early.

Roman: Like I said, I wanted to apologize.

Ej: And let it slip about kate.

Roman: No, no. No. No, that was not my intention. Not at all.

Ej: Well, finding out what lucas did to your daughter and that your best girl knew about it and said nothing– you can’t be expected to be discreet. You know, my father said that the bradys were just as fierce about their children as we dimeras are about ours, and anyone who hurt them must pay.

Roman: That’s what the justice system’s for, right?

Ej: Right.

Roman: And I’m trusting you won’t take the law into your own hands.

Ej: Well, roman, you know you can always trust me.

Roman: I mean it, ej. Do not take the law into your own hands with kate. I’ll see you later.

Marlena: That must have been so upsetting. I mean, ej is ej and I’m sure he believed that you were in the process of marrying lucas, so he probably thought it was all right to date someone else.

Sami: He wasn’t just dating someone else, mom. He was sleeping with someone else. And it wasn’t just someone. It was my sister.

Marlena: [Gasps] Oh, god.

Sami: It was belle– your perfect, little belle– and she was pleased as can be about it.

Marlena: I can’t believe that’s true.

Sami: She’s been looking for a moment like this her entire life, waiting for an opportunity to get back at me. She saw that ej was vulnerable, and she took it just to hurt me.

Marlena: No, sami, no.

Sami: Yes.

Marlena: No.

Sami: Yes, mom. She was hiding in the bathroom, but when she heard that I thought it was nicole and I was gonna just leave, that’s when she came out. Your perfect, little girl came out of that bathroom in ej’s robe on purpose so that I would know, so that I would see that it was her. That was the whole point.

Marlena: No.

Sami: Don’t defend her, mother. Please don’t make excuses for her to me right now.

Marlena: No, I– I’m just aching for her, and I’m aching for you. This shouldn’t happen to anybody–anybody– on their wedding day, but please don’t take your anger and your upset out on your sister because you won’t just be hurting her. You’ll be hurting yourself as well.

Sami: Right. That’s what I always do, isn’t it?

[Sighs]

Marlena: Honey, just take it easy. I’ll make us something to eat.

[Tense music]

Chloe: Yeah, that’s right. You got me, brady. When you and rachel were visiting tate, I took it to the next level with your sister.

Brady: Wow. Okay, that’s funny. That’s funny. So things didn’t work out at chez dimera? Was the service bad over there, or…

Chloe: Brady.

Brady: Did you finally realize that ej is an arrogant, selfish jerk?

Chloe: Brady, stop.

Brady: Or that he makes his father look like papa noel? Which? I’m sorry, what’s– hey, what happened?

Chloe: Um…

Brady: Belle.

Chloe: I think she doesn’t want to share with someone who’s being judgmental and self-righteous. Didn’t you just use the word “arrogant”?

Brady: Yeah, I’m sorry. Hey. Tink, I’m sorry. I’m sorry. Just the thought of you being with that jerk pushes all my buttons.

Belle: Yeah, well, you don’t have to worry about that anymore.

Brady: No?

Belle: No. Boy, did I get my comeuppance.

Brady: I didn’t want that.

Belle: Mm-hmm. Yeah, well, I got it when sami found me in bed with ej. My asthma felt anything but normal.

Steve: I understand jan whacked you pretty good, huh? With an oar, right?

Shawn: Yeah, and belle whacked her back pretty good too.

Steve: Any word from search and rescue?

Shawn: No. Uh-huh. You know, jan hitting me wasn’t the worst thing that she did.

Steve: Hand me that wrench there, will you?

Shawn: She, uh– she pretended like she was holding the baby, and it was a sack of oranges, and then she just– she threw them at me.

Steve: Oh, dude.

Shawn: I mean, what kind of a person could do that? What kind of a person could even think of doing something like that? I mean, I know that jan’s crazy, but I mean, I thought that she loved the little guy. Just kind of proves that I don’t think that jan could love anything.

Steve: I’m sorry.

Shawn: No. No, it’s all right. It teaches me a lesson. Teaches me that if jan comes back, all right, she can’t be anywhere near my son. There’s no way I can let that happen. It’s just gonna be me and him.

Kayla: And steve and me. Your son is sleeping like an angel.

Shawn: Oh, thank you.

Kayla: You know, my little two cents in here. You know, when I first found out about tripp–I mean, I know it’s not the same, but it’s like I was kicked in the stomach. I think I was in kind of emotional shock, but over time, my resentment towards him turned into loving him like my own son. And I think, in the beginning, it was really because of my love for steve.

Shawn: Well, I’ve never stopped loving belle.

Kayla: And I don’t think that she stopped loving you.

Shawn: Yeah, I mean, that might be true. I mean, that’s what she says, but I don’t know. I think that she’s moved on.

Belle: So, sami– well, it was quite a tirade.

Brady: Ooh. No surprise there.

Belle: Yeah, but when she first saw that it was me– you know, before her defenses kicked in–she was so hurt. So she left, and then all of a sudden, ej took off after her. And I didn’t really know why, so I followed him, and from what he said to her, it was pretty obvious that he’s still in love with her.

Chloe: You didn’t tell me that part.

Belle: I already knew.

Brady: Well, sis, you might already know this too. She will retaliate. She’s not gonna keep it to herself.

Belle: Oh, my god.

Brady: Yeah.

Belle: Shawn. I owe it to him to tell him myself.

Brady: I hope she’s not too late.

Sami: Oh, there you are! I heard voices. You know you have your front door unlocked? I just came in.

Steve: Hey, sami.

Sami: Hi.

Steve: You all right?

Sami: Oh, you’re talking about my aborted wedding. Yes, well, I decided a little short-term humiliation was better than being married to my kidnapper. I’m sure you know all about it, right? It was in all the newspapers this morning.

Kayla: Sami, have you had any sleep?

Sami: It’s the story of my life. My mom’s a shrink, my aunt’s a doctor. Everybody knows my feelings better than I do.

Kayla: Well, you just seem a bit wired.

Sami: Yeah. Oh, yeah, definitely. You know, I’m sure there’s a big crash coming, which is why I came over here. I want to talk to you, shawn, before, you know, the inevitable meltdown.

Shawn: Me? What do you want to talk to me about?

Sami: Well, I’m guessing I’m the one who’s gonna have to break it to you that– well, your wife is sleeping with my ex-husband.

Kate: Okay, now you’re not going to have a lot of time with your attorney before the arraignment, so just plead not guilty now. Lucas, don’t burn your bridges before you even get started.

Lucas: I think I burned my bridges a long time ago.

Cop: Lucas horton? Time for your arraignment.

Kate: Okay, come on. There’s no need for that.

Lucas: Will you go home?

Kate: Okay, I need to be in the room when you talk to the lawyer.

Lucas: No, I’m gonna do this on my own! I told you that! Go!

Ej: Really, lucas? Is that any way to talk to your mother? After all, she was the one who made you the man you are today.

Lucas: Get me the hell out of here.

Ej: I’ll catch you later, lucas. You and I have a lot to talk about. Kate, what’s the rush? It’s almost as if you’re trying to avoid me.

Kate: He told you, didn’t he? Roman told you.

Ej: He was very upset. He let it slip. Let it slip that you knew your worthless son kidnapped sami. Let it slip that you knew and said nothing as he framed me for it. Let it slip that you knew and said nothing as I went off to prison. Let it slip that you knew and said nothing as sami prepared to marry the little worm. Actually, he didn’t let slip that last part. I just figured that out for myself.

Kate: And you live high in a moral dungeon now, don’t you, having lived such a blameless life?

Ej: Ooh, you’re trapped, so you’ve come out swinging, kind of like butch and sundance. Remember what happened to them?

Kayla: Look, sami, I know that you’ve been through hell, but do you think, once in your life, you could think about somebody other than yourself? Shawn does not need this this morning.

Shawn: No, no, it’s okay.

Kayla: No, it’s not.

Shawn: I can’t unhear what was just said, so I might as well hear more. What happened?

Sami: Well, after my wedding blew up, after lucas confessed to what he had done, I went to see ej.

Kayla: You went to see ej?

Sami: Well, yeah, aunt kayla. He was accused of kidnapping me, so when lucas confessed to committing the crime, I thought he should know about it.

Kayla: Hmm.

Sami: So that’s when I saw him and belle in bed together.

Shawn: Wait, you saw them? You saw belle?

Sami: She was hiding in the bathroom at first, but then she came out because she wanted to make sure I knew it was her. I hate having to tell you this.

Belle: Like hell you do.

Sami: [Chuckles]

Chloe: Well, it’s nice that rachel gets to stay with tate and theresa for a while.

Brady: Mm. Yeah, it is.

Chloe: But it’s also nice that you and theresa are getting along. Look, honey, I know that you’re worried about belle.

Brady: Oh, you think? I am.

[Scoffs]

Chloe: Well, look at how you and theresa have worked things out. That could be belle and shawn in time.

Brady: Chloe, my sister is on her way to tell shawn that she slept with ej dimera. How is he gonna get past that?

Chloe: Brady, your sister is more important than your hate for ej.

Brady: Chloe, I don’t just love my sister. I know my sister, okay? And through all their ups and downs, she has only really ever been happy with shawn. But thanks to jan spears and ej dimera, I think this time, their marriage may be over for good.

Belle: You don’t hate telling shawn about ej and me. You’re having the time of your life.

Sami: Oh, trust me, belle, I am not having the time of my life.

Belle: Oh, yeah, I know what you went through last night. Do you know what shawn went through? Do you care? No, I didn’t think so. Because telling him about ej and me– even though he just went through three circles of hell– that’s the way to inflict the maximum amount of pain on me, and that’s all that matters to you. I will never forgive you for doing this to shawn, not that you care.

Sami: I did this to shawn? He’s going through hell while you’re sleeping with ej, and it’s somehow my fault?

Kayla: You know, sami, that’s enough. Why don’t you just go? You’ve done your damage, you’ve had your moment, so just go, okay?

Sami: Okay, guys.

Kayla: I mean, go.

Sami: I’m going, I’m going. Shawn, good luck.

[Laughs]

[Slams door]

Kayla: You know, steve and i are gonna go and let you two have a moment. If you need anything, call us, all right? Come on, steve.

Shawn: So I guess we have to finally have a talk, right?

Marlena: It must have been quite a hard time for you. First, the wedding, and then having to hear kate’s confession. It must have been a very difficult thing to hear.

Roman: Yeah. Well, the hard part was that kate seemed genuinely miserable, like she was really sorry– and I mean really sorry.

Marlena: I’m sure she was.

Roman: Yeah, but I just couldn’t get past knowing she was only telling me ’cause she knew it was all gonna come out later.

Marlena: Well, that would be our kate. I can imagine how difficult it was for her to tell you, and I can also imagine how difficult it’s going to be for her to tell ej.

Kate: I led belle to those files that got you out of prison.

Ej: But I wouldn’t have been in prison if you hadn’t have once again enabled the pathetic, spineless drunk you spawned.

Kate: What can I say? Protecting my son.

Ej: Hmm, the things we do for love.

Kate: [Sighs] So what are you going to do with me?

Ej: Well, I do have a myriad of options, don’t I? Anything from civil litigation to something more visceral, more hands-on. But the fact is, while I may seem the very model of british decorum, inside– oh, inside–the italian side of me is seething. But my father has always been adamant that revenge is a dish best served cold, so you’re just going to have to wait until I feel rational enough, ruthless enough, to have decided your fate. Chloe: Oh, my goodness. This is lovely.

Brady: You like?

Chloe: Yes, I like.

Brady: With all the drama with my sister, I forgot to let you know how much I missed you, and I wanted to give you that.

Chloe: Aw. Can you help me put it on?

Brady: I’ll try. Thank you. Wow.

Chloe: Hmm?

Brady: You look good.

Chloe: Mm. I missed you too, brady.

Belle: I came here to tell you myself.

Shawn: You came here when you realized that sami wasn’t gonna keep your little secret.

Belle: Okay, can we just leave her out of this?

Shawn: Okay, fine. Sure. Okay, you came here to tell me. Well, thank you for the update. I don’t want to hear any more details, so thank you very much.

Belle: Shawn, listen to me. I am so sorry about how you found out, but you had to know we were headed this way.

Shawn: I wasn’t headed any way. I’m here, okay? I’m the one that’s here, in our house, in our den right now.

Belle: Shawn–

Shawn: No, you’re the one that headed out. You headed out, and you went straight to ej’s bed.

Marlena: Belle, you’ve gotta call me back right away. It’s really important.

[Hangs up] Oh, please, god, don’t let sami be doing what I think she’s doing.

[Doorbell rings] What the hell are you doing here?

Kate: I need your help.

[Tense music]

Ej: You came back. Thank god. This is the sound of better breathing.

[Sultry music]

Brady: Oh! I love it when you take charge like that.

Chloe: I know you do. Welcome home, brady.

Brady: It’s good to be home.

Cop: You know, when you pleaded not guilty back there, you looked like even you knew it was a crock.

Kate: So you gonna let me in?

Marlena: Am I going to let you in? You knew your son kidnapped my daughter, and you said nothing. And you knew they were about to get married, and you still said nothing. So your question is, am I going to let you into my home? Why in god’s name would I do that?

Belle: Shawn, you and I were having problems long before I got involved with ej.

Shawn: Yeah, yeah, we had problems. All right, jan spears and the devil tricked me into getting into bed with her, and then, all of a sudden, you decide that I betrayed you.

Belle: No, I didn’T.

Shawn: Well, you sure as hell played the injured wife perfectly. Belle, something terrible happened to both of us, and from day one, you’ve been acting like it was only you. You’re acting like you’re the victim and that I’m the bad guy here.

Belle: No!

Shawn: Yes! You walked out on me! You walked out on me and our marriage! Look, I was dealing with a psycho that was pregnant with my baby, okay? How am I supposed to protect him without dealing with her?

Belle: It was too much, okay? After everything she did to me and to us, to know that jan spears is having your child? I know that jan tricked you into bed. I never blamed you for that, but you didn’t tell me. For all that time, I had no idea that you slept with her, and then there’s just a baby!

Shawn: And this baby has no choice of how he was brought into this world.

Belle: God, you refuse to understand!

Shawn: Oh. Oh, yeah. Okay, well, you know what, I’m sure that ej understands, right? I’m sure he understands perfectly. Yeah, oh-so perfectly you just run right into his bed.

Belle: I’m leaving.

[Somber music]

Sami: “You’ve come back. Thank god.” Is that what you just said?

Ej: Yes, and I meant it.

Sami: Ej, your arrogance never ceases to amaze me. You think I came back to be with you, don’t you?

Ej: Haven’t you?

Sami: So walk me through your logic here. I was about to marry lucas last night, but that didn’t work out, so I come to see you, and i find you in bed with my sister, and that just brought back all the old feelings, did it? Should we get married? Should I call belle and ask her to be my maid of honor?

Ej: I take it you haven’t come back to me.

Sami: Good guess. I came to say goodbye to johnny.

Ej: Goodbye?

Sami: This is it. I’m leaving salem.

Ej: I see.

Sami: I have been ping-ponging back and forth between you and lucas for the better part of two decades, and I’m sick of it. You’re not worth the powder it would take to blow you up.

Ej: I would like to point out that we’d be together right now if you hadn’t believed his lies.

Sami: You’re right. You are right about that, ej, so thank god. Thank god it happened the way it did so I could learn my lesson, because I can’t even count the different ways you have found to break my heart. So I’m done. Good luck with belle or whoever comes after her. I hope you make each other miserable. This is it. I’ve had it with you, with–with this place, with all of it.

What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be at the police station with lucas?

Lucas: You have to listen to me. I would never take a knife and stab my own niece!

Chad: Yeah? Then what is that?

Sami: Ej, I really need to talk to you.

Ej: [Sighs] What are you doing?

Belle: I can’t let her find me in here.

Sami: Come on, ej. I know you’re in there.

Ej: What are you doing here, samantha? Why aren’t you with lucas?

Sami: Well, I would’ve been, except…

[Scoffs] Ah, look at what we have here. Who does this belong to?

Allie: I was so happy today. I started to cry when dad was reading the vows that he wrote. I thought, wow, imagine having two parents happy at the same time. Mom looked so beautiful till she found out– till we all found out–that dad was the one who kidnapped her.

[Sighs]

Will: Yeah, it was quite the wedding.

Allie: Non-wedding. Will… chad was wrong, wasn’t he? Not about the kidnapping, but dad didn’t kill abigail. That couldn’t have happened. That just can’t be true, right? Will.

Chad: Tell me, how did you get this cut on your hand?

Lucas: I don’t know!

Chad: Well, that seems like a pretty deep cut to remember that kind of pain.

Lucas: Ow! I told you I was–

Chad: What? What, drunk? You were blackout drunk, huh? Okay, let me see if I can help you recover your memory, lucas. Huh? Were you holding a knife too tight when you stabbed my wife to death?

Chad: While she was trying to fight for her life, huh?

Roman: So don’t tell me they let lucas go already.

Kate: Um, no, he’s– he’s at the station still.

Roman: Then why did you come back?

Chad: Rafe’s gonna ask me how I put the pieces together to come up with lucas.

Kate: [Scoffs] So you’re going to tell him that I told lucas that abigail knew, right?

Chad: You better get roman ready for what’s coming.

Kate: Mm-hmm. I need to talk to you about lucas.

Eric: Sami, will you let me know you’re all right? If you don’t want to talk, just text me that you’re okay.

[Hangs up]

Nicole: Eric?

Eric: Nicole.

Nicole: What are you doing here? Hang on, are you okay? Sami just got married, and yet, you seem pretty sad. Why aren’t you at the reception?

Eric: Because there won’t be a reception. Because there wasn’t a wedding.

Sami: So whose is this?

Ej: None of your business, mrs. Horton.

Sami: Never mind. I already know whose it is.

[Sighs]

Allie: Will, this is where you’re supposed to say, “of course not. Dad could never kill anybody,” unless you think he could.

Will: No, I don’t think he could ever kill anyone unless he was drunk.

Allie: Okay, well, he’s sober and he has been for– will, no.

Will: Yeah, he had a slip. He told me this morning. He also told me that after he came to, he called his sponsor. And he’s been going to meetings.

Allie: Okay, well, when was this slip? I mean, it could’ve been months ago. He’s been under so much stress, like with– it wasn’t months ago, was it?

Will: No.

Lucas: I had a slip. I mean, I don’t even know if that’s what you call it these days, you know, when you’re blacked out drunk. But when I came to, my hand– my hand was a mess.

Will: I’m sorry.

Lucas: Yeah, me too.

Will: You’ve been sober for so long. Do you know why this happened? The only reason he told me is because I saw this cut on his hand, and it was recent, ’cause he still had the bandage. And I asked how it happened, and he said he didn’t remember.

Allie: Because he was drunk.

Will: Yeah.

Allie: And when he said that he “came to,” he was blacked out? And you think that he got the cut the same night that abigail died?

Will: [Sighs]

Rafe: You– you have to get out of here. You have to let me do my job. Now you can really screw things up here. Do you want to screw things up? I don’t think you want to screw things up, do you?

Chad: No, I don’T.

Rafe: Then let’s go. Don’t go anywhere. You need to tell me what the hell is going on here. Now listen, johnny told me that lucas admitted to kidnapping sami, but that does not make him a murderer. He had no earthly reason to kill abigail.

Chad: Yes, he did. Abigail knew. Abigail knew what lucas had done.

Sami: I know you’re in there, nicole.

Ej: Samantha, this is none of your business!

Sami: Get off me, ej! Come out, you cheating whore! Let go of me!

Nicole: I can’t believe it. Chad accused lucas of killing abigail?

Eric: At the top of his lungs, in front of the entire church.

Nicole: Oh, poor guy. Chad, I mean. Rafe told me that he had to tell chad he had to let clyde weston go.

Eric: Yeah, well, chad mentioned that. Actually, he screamed it at lucas. But is rafe for sure? Because given weston’s history, we know he’s capable of paying to get an alibi.

Nicole: There’s timestamped evidence accounting for clyde weston’s whereabouts. And are you ready for this?

Eric: What?

Nicole: At the time of the murder, clyde weston was fishing.

Eric: Fishing? With lil’ opie and barney? I mean, sorry, this is not the time to be funny.

Nicole: No, no. I guess when chad found out it wasn’t clyde, he lost it.

Eric: Yeah, you could say that.

Nicole: But still, I mean, why in god’s name would he think it was lucas? Lucas loved abigail, and she was jennifer’s daughter. I…

Eric: Unfortunately, there’s more. It turns out that abigail was aware that lucas is the one who, um–

Nicole: Lucas was the one who what?

[Scoffs] What could lucas have done that he’d kill abigail to cover it up?

Eric: Lucas admitted he was the one who kidnapped sami.

Nicole: Oh.

Will: I don’t know exactly when dad got drunk. He just told me he felt guilty about mom.

Allie: You knew he kidnapped her and you still stood up for him at the wedding?

Will: No, obviously dad didn’t tell me he kidnapped mom. He had some sob story about how he should’ve stopped her from skiing, and because he didn’t, she broke her leg, and then, months after the fact, that that drove him to drink.

Allie: Great, so he’s lying again, too.

Will: I think I kind of knew it was a lie when he said it. You know, I could feel something was really wrong.

Allie: That it was his cover story. I mean, I can understand why he wouldn’t want to share with you that he kidnapped our mother.

Will: Yeah, it’s clearly eating him up.

Allie: I hope so. I mean, did you see what he put her through?

Will: I think the part he dreaded the most, even more than going to prison, was that mom might know that he did it, right? And so, when he found out that abigail knew that he did it…

Allie: He killed her to keep her quiet. No, no, I don’t believe that even dead drunk, dad would ever do anything like that.

Rafe: Look, let me get this straight. You knew that lucas had kidnapped sami. But you didn’t come to the police even though you knew your brother was serving time for something that he didn’t do? No, no, you just told your wife.

Chad: Okay, whatever. Lock me up then, but do not let him get away with murder.

Rafe: Okay, you know what, chad, let me tell you something. There is a step missing here, okay? Unless he knew that she knew what he had done.

Chad: Yeah, he did, and I found that out today.

Rafe: And how did he know that?

Chad: Kate told him.

Roman: Look, kate, I– I really don’t know what there is to say about lucas. He kidnapped sami. He put her through hell.

Kate: I know.

Roman: And as much as I want to beat the crap out of him for what he did to sami, I just hope to god he didn’t have anything to do with what happened to abigail for your sake.

Kate: Roman, I am so, so sorry.

Roman: For what? I mean, what did you do? You’re not responsible for what lucas did.

Kate: I’m responsible for what I did.

[Sighs]

[Sniffles] I knew what lucas had done, and I didn’t tell you.

Ej: Damn it, sami, I don’t want to throw you out on your ass, but I will!

Sami: Come on out, nicole! It took you less time to cheat on rafe than it did on eric!

Ej: Okay, that’s it.

Sami: Oh, ow! All right, stay in the bathroom. I’m gonna go tell rafe! You’re such a coward, nicole!

Belle: Wait, wait. You know what, you’re wrong as usual. It’s not nicole.

Ej: You have nothing to say about this.

Sami: The hell I don’t!

Ej: You divorced me. I’m not your husband anymore.

Sami: She’s still my sister. I cannot believe how disgusting this is. But you know, don’t you, because that’s why you were hiding in the bathroom!

Belle: No, I went into the bathroom because I could not stomach another one of your self-indulgent tantrums, and I came out of the bathroom to spare rafe and nicole from having to deal with you.

Sami: Oh, stop it with your moral high ground, your high-handedness. You are unbelievable! I mean, here you two are, lying, sneaking around town, telling people, “oh, I’m just friend with belle. She’s just my lawyer.” You two had to take your clothes off to go over some torts?

Belle: No, that’s not why we took our clothes off. But the fact that we kept our private life private doesn’t mean we’re sneaking around or lying. We’re not doing anything wrong.

Sami: Well, you are cheating on your husband.

Belle: No, shawn and i are separated.

Sami: Aw, you’re on a break?

Belle: Oh, my god. Why do you even care? And like ej said, why are you even here, sami? Aren’t you supposed to be getting married to lucas tonight? Ej: Maybe his mummy grounded him.

Sami: You know what, fine. Enjoy yourselves. Just remember, he’s only sleeping with you to get back at me.

Ej: Okay, that’s it. You’re coming with me.

Sami: Ha, told you so.

[Tense music]

Rafe: So kate told lucas that abigail knew he kidnapped sami?

Chad: That’s right.

Rafe: Okay. And how did you know that?

Chad: Kate told me.

Rafe: So once again, you decided to take matters into your own hands? Instead of coming here to the police, you went to the church.

Chad: Like I said, arrest me for disturbing the peace or obstruction of justice, but do not let lucas get away with murder.

Rafe: I won’T. That is, if he did it. But kidnapping sami is a far cry from brutally murdering his own niece. I’m sorry, I just don’t think that lucas is capable of that.

Chad: No, if he was sober, but he wasn’T.

Roman: So what do you mean you knew what lucas had done?

Kate: I knew that lucas was the one who had sami kidnapped.

Roman: Okay, let me get this straight. Okay, you knew this, you didn’t tell anyone? My daughter spent months not knowing where she was, what the hell was gonna happen to her, not knowing whether she’d ever see her children again.

Kate: I didn’t know that then, I knew that after.

Roman: Oh, after what, lucas rescued her?

Kate: Roman, if I had known she was in danger, I would tell you.

Roman: Well, she kind of was in danger, kate. She went on this grand tour to europe with the sociopath who kidnapped her. She was gonna marry the sociopath who kidnapped her.

Kate: That’s my son, okay? I had already lost philip, and I didn’t want to lose lucas.

Roman: Oh, philip. Right, right, right. Okay, on new year’s eve, all right, when you told me the truth about him, you said to me that you didn’t want there to be any secrets between us. That meant a lot to me, kate, and now, it turns out to be just another one of your lies.

Nicole: It was lucas who kidnapped sami?

Eric: Well, he was denying it, and then later he admitted it.

Nicole: Wow, this is crazy. I mean, I feel sorry for everyone involved. I feel sorry for sami.

Eric: It was awful all the way around.

Nicole: Wait a minute, that means ej was innocent this whole time.

Eric: Yeah.

Nicole: How’s sami?

Eric: I don’t know. I don’t know where she is. She won’t talk to me.

Nicole: Well, don’t worry too much, okay? Sami always lands on her feet.

Sami: I swear, damn all of them. I’m going, ej. I’m just going.

Ej: No, don’t!

Sami: What?

Ej: Don’t!

Sami: Listen, okay? I meant everything I said. Have at it with belle. Sleep with anyone you want to, okay? Tell belle tell you all the horrible stories about everything I’ve done to her my entire life.

Ej: You know, you were so bloody horrible just now, so bloody irritating…

Sami: I don’t need this.

Ej: But I didn’t stop to realize… that you wouldn’t have come here tonight if something wasn’t terribly wrong.

Sami: What? No, nothing’s wrong. Just came to share some wedding cake with you–

Ej: Damn it, samantha. Tell me what happened. Why aren’t you with lucas at your wedding?

Sami: There was no wedding. I didn’t marry lucas.

Ej: Well, um, good. But why?

Sami: Because you were right.

[Sighs] So I came here to– to tell you the big news that… lucas is the one who kidnapped me. My moderate to severe plaque psoriasis…

Allie: No. Even if dad was drunk, there’s no way that he would hurt abigail. He would never hurt anybody, I mean, you know how much the horton family means to him. Okay, obviously, you’re not saying what you’re thinking. Don’t you think at least you and I can be honest with each other?

Will: Look what he did to her. Right? Dad loves mom, but he kept her prisoner for months.

Allie: Okay, to protect her from ej. I know. No, you’re right. That was just an excuse. It was horrible what he did.

Will: And if he doesn’t remember cutting his hand, what else does he not remember? I mean, allie, if you told me earlier today, is dad capable of kidnapping mom, I would’ve said no way. But he did to keep her away from ej. He did something so horrible, so desperate to keep from losing her, and when she agreed to marry him, the stakes just got even higher.

Allie: And once again, he had to do something crazy and desperate so that he didn’t lose her.

Will: I think he might have.

Nicole: So sami found out she was going to marry a kidnapper.

[Sighs] Would’ve loved to have seen that.

Eric: I thought you felt sorry for her.

Nicole: I–I mean, I do, as a woman and as a human being, but as sami brady, after everything she’s done to me– oh, you’ve gotta grant me a little schadenfreude.

Eric: Nicole, I know there’s no loss between the two of you, but can you just kinda bury the hatchet, at least for today?

Nicole: Well, maybe you could’ve told her that because she was such a bitch to me a few hours ago.

Sami: If anyone’s making a really big mistake in their life, it’s rafe. Marrying you? When are you gonna start slutting around behind his back the way you did with eric?

Kate: On–on new year’s eve, I didn’t know about what lucas had done.

Roman: When did you find out?

Kate: January 5th.

Roman: Wow. Kudos, kate. So our no secrets agreement lasted a total of five days, and then there was, you know, another secret.

Kate: Roman… I was scared for lucas. I was afraid of losing lucas.

Roman: Yeah, you didn’t want lucas locked up, but it was fine for my daughter.

Kate: No. Because sami was free, and not that I condone what he did, because I don’t, but it was over.

Roman: Kate, damn it, it wasn’t over. He was the same dangerous, unbalanced man that kidnapped her. Do you think the kidnapping was just a slip? How many times does lucas get to slip? Over, and over, and over.

Kate: Roman–

Roman: And you forgive him, and excuse him, and cover for him over and over and over.

Kate: I’m sorry, roman.

Roman: No, no, I get it. You’re afraid of losing him. But even so, don’t you think sami deserves some kind of heads up, kate, before she went around the world with this guy? Like, “sami,” you know, “watch your step.” You know, “don’t get on lucas’ bad side, he just may have a little slip, and you may end up in a quaint little dungeon in europe.

Kate: Okay, please don’t do that. Lucas loves sami.

Roman: Oh, yeah.

Kate: Lucas would never hurt sami.

Roman: Like philip loves chloe? Kate, did you ever stop to notice that people get hurt when your boys start to like women? Okay, there’s a lot of collateral damage, and yes, lucas is fragile, and he needs his mother’s motherly love, so ej, why don’t you go off to prison for what he did? Kate, you think I’m mad? What the hell do you think ej’s gonna do when he finds out about this? I wouldn’t wanna be in your shoes, and I sure as hell wouldn’t wanna be in lucas’.

Ej: Lucas had you kidnapped. Are you sure?

Sami: He admitted it. He also admitted that he’s the one who planted the evidence against you. He–he is the one who put the evidence on the dimera computers.

[Dramatic music]

All this time, I was travelling the world with my kidnapper. So what are you waiting for? Go ahead, gloat. I deserve it.

Ej: No. No. What lucas did was… unspeakable.

Sami: Well, that’s certainly an understatement, I mean, he put you in prison for a crime he committed.

Ej: That wasn’t the worst thing that he did to me. He kidnapped you to split us up. And when you came back… we were going to start over. You were ready to get past what happened between nicole and me. When rafe turned up and arrested me… if lucas hadn’t framed me… we would’ve gotten back together.

Sami: [Sighs] Now that can never happen.

Ej: No?

Sami: I thought sleeping with nicole was the worst thing you could ever do. Well, I was wrong. Sleeping with my sister is worse. Time. It’s life’s most precious commodity,

Will: [Sighs] I’m sorry. I–I mean, I hope I’m wrong.

Allie: Yeah, but maybe you’re right. I mean, we now know that he did something crazy when he was sober, so who knows what he did when he was drunk? Okay, but I can’t think about him right now because I’m really worried about mom, and i don’t think she should be alone.

Will: Okay. You gonna go to her?

Allie: Yeah. You wanna come?

Will: No, I, um– I think I’m gonna go check on dad.

Rafe: So will told you that lucas was drinking again?

Chad: So much so that he blacked out. And he doesn’t remember how he got that cut on his hand. And I don’t think cutting his hand is the only thing he doesn’t remember from that night.

Eric: So what did sami give you a hard time about?

Nicole: [Sighs] You know, the same old, same old.

Eric: [Chuckles] Well, she was riding high before the wedding. Look, I don’t know how she’s gonna get over this. She almost married the man who kidnapped her and who might be a murderer.

Nicole: Eric, do you really think it’s possible that lucas killed abigail? I mean, even if he was drunk, I still don’t think he’s capable of it.

Eric: Either did I. But I also didn’t think that lucas was capable of kidnapping my sister.

Ej: Samantha, please. Until you showed up tonight, I thought I’d lost you forever. But things are different now.

Sami: No, they aren’T. They aren’t different. They are exactly the same.

Ej: Samantha–

Roman: So you were comfortable with letting ej sit in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. Wow. You know, I’m not a big fan of ej’s, not at all, but I even gotta say, that is pretty low.

Kate: Roman, I felt terrible about it.

Roman: Yeah, but not terrible enough to do something.

Kate: It wasn’t that simple.

Roman: It was exactly that simple.

Kate: No, it wasn’T. Because chad was involved, and I had to protect him. And I didn’t let ej just rot in prison, because I was the one who lead belle to the evidence that got him out.

Roman: Oh, why didn’t you say so? So now we definitely have to give you a gold star.

Kate: [Sighs]

Roman: Kate–

Kate: [Sighs]

Roman: None of this changes the fact that you were fine with trading sami’s safety for your son’S.

Kate: She was safe, roman.

Roman: Yeah, just like abigail was.

Kate: Oh, god, don’t say that, don’t say that. Lucas did not do that. Lucas could not have done that, okay, that was–that was chad. He was just digging his grave.

Roman: Okay, all right. Look, I apologize. I shouldn’t have said that. I’m sorry.

Kate: No, it’s okay. Really, it’s okay. You know. You’re right, I was wrong. What I did was wrong. I know that, and I think I’m– part of me knew that the entire time, you know, that I was just–I was in it so deep, roman, and it went on so long. I was just really afraid that if you found out the truth… I would lose you.

Roman: You were right about that.

Kate: What do you mean?

Roman: The two of us… we’re done.

Kate: [Sighs, sniffles] What happens to your body language

Rafe: Well, thanks for bringing me up to speed.

Chad: You’re gonna get him to confess, right?

Rafe: Chad, you’ve gotta let me handle this.

Chad: You looking for your father? He’s in there. With rafe. He’s questioning him. About what he did to my wife.

Lucas: What did chad tell you?

Rafe: Forget about chad. I need to ask you some questions.

Ej: What are you doing?

Belle: What does it look like I’m doing? I’m leaving.

Allie: Mom.

Sami: What are you doing here?

Allie: I was looking for you. Are you okay?

Sami: No.

Allie: Oh, mom.

Sami: No, I’m not okay.

[Sobbing] I was on an antidepressant,

Chad: I wanted you to hear it from me that… I told rave that you told me about your father’s drinking.

Will: Not surprising. You told a church full of people that he kidnapped my mom.

Chad: Well, you told me in confidence. But it’s evidence, so I had to tell rafe.

Will: Yeah, no, I– you gotta do what you gotta do. And I gotta stand by my dad. Were you about to leave?

Chad: Yeah.

Will: Then why don’t you get going? Looks like I’m gonna be here for a while.

Rafe: The night abigail was murdered, were you drinking?

Lucas: Yes.

Rafe: Did you kill her?

Lucas: Come on, rafe.

Rafe: Just answer the question. Did you kill abigail dimera?

Lucas: I do not remember. I don’t remember anything from that night.

Kate: Roman… you don’t mean that. I mean, I know that what I did was terrible. Please, I know we can work it out.

Roman: No. I want you to leave.

Kate: Okay, okay.

Roman: No.

[Sighs] Get your stuff. I want you out of here.

Kate: [Scoffs] Roman.

Roman: Goodbye, kate.

Eric: I ‘m really sorry, but I need to go find sami.

Nicole: Okay, maybe you should check with ej.

Eric: What–what is that supposed to mean?

Nicole: It means that the sami I know always goes running back to him.

Ej: Belle, look, I know that must’ve been painful, but she’s gone now.

Belle: Oh, okay. So, what? We just get back into bed and act like nothing ever happened?

Ej: No, no, I’m not saying that, I’m just saying you don’t have to go.

Belle: Oh, my god, ej, of course I have to go. It can’t work between us. I thought for a brief time that maybe it could, but now i know I was just deluding myself.

Ej: Is this because of samantha? Stupid question, how could it not be?

Belle: No.

Ej: I’m sorry.

Belle: It’s not a stupid question. I actually thought that I could be happy with you, in spite of knowing how much that was gonna hurt my sister, but, you know, even as much as I resent her, and, I mean, sometimes, I despise her, she is my sister. And when she’s in pain like that it just hurts me.

Ej: I understand that.

Belle: I know you do. And even if I didn’t know that you still had feelings for her, I would just… I’d feel her presence in my mind’s eye, just watching and judging everything, and, god, relationships are hard enough without adding that kind of complication.

Ej: Hm. So… are you going back to shawn?

Belle: I don’t know what’s gonna happen with shawn. That’s complicated, too, obviously. I think I just need to keep things simple for a while, even if that just means being alone. You were there for me when i really needed you, and I will always be grateful for that.

Ej: And I’ll be grateful, too. For everything you’ve done for me. And for all the good times that we’ve had together.

Sami: Oh, sweetheart, I’m sorry. [Sobs] I’m so sorry. This is really embarrassing.

Allie: No, no, no, no. I think–hey, I think it’s human, and look, I know how tough you are. You’re so strong. But I think that tonight… it’s okay if you fall apart. Okay?

Belle: I think my last 24 hours have been bad enough without adding sami to the mix.

Ej: [Clears throat] Well, at the very least, and I do mean the least, we should drink to the happy couple.

Eric: You two have exchanged vows. Now it’s my turn. Do you, lucas desmond horton, take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife, to love and cherish in sickness and health till death do you part?

Lucas: I do.

Eric: Do you, samantha gene brady, take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband, to love, to cherish, in sickness and health till death do you part?

Sami: I definitely do.

Belle: Oh, mm-mm. What is that stuff?

Belle: Well, it definitely packs a punch.

Belle: So what is all this? Is this because of the wedding?

Ej: Are you saying I should take this in stride? You didn’t even make an appearance.

Belle: After the last 24 hours I’ve had?

Ej: Okay.

Belle: Besides, sami has a built-in sensor that can detect any woman who’s ever slept with you, so…

Ej: Ah, your mistake is assuming that she cares. Samantha is probably married to mr. Excitement by now, starting a wife with a human doorstop.

Belle: Well, yeah, you should have another drink because you have not taken off that bitter edge just yet.

Ej: Can’t you see that I’ve been set free by this? No more jealousy, no more self-pity. Samantha is marrying lucas to spite me, and they deserve each other. I wonder if lucas is going to introduce bondage to the wedding night festivities.

Belle: Oh, stop.

Ej: No, you’re right. You’re right. He’s not like that. I think I’ll send him a bottle of champagne with a letter of thanks for taking samantha off my hands. You are looking at a free man. I’m free.

Chad: I’m grieving, but I’m not making this up. Am I?

Lucas: You don’t know what you’re talking about.

Sami: No, you’re just spouting ej’s lies, ej’s story. Your brother is the one who kidnapped me.

Johnny: Mom, it’s not always about dad, okay? At least hear chad out.

Allie: No, my father would never do something like that.

Sami: She’s right. He wouldn’t, and I’m sorry that this is happening. Listen, you were not there when ej demanded the divorce, the look of hatred for me he had in his eyes. He didn’t want to just divorce me. He wanted to destroy me. That’s why he kidnapped me! And lucas is the one who found me. He rescued me and brought me home. And now you come in trying to ruin our special day spouting ej’s phony stories?

Chad: Sami, if you go through with this, you will regret this day for the rest of your life.

Sami: No, you are the one telling ej’s lies that he sold you–

Chad: Ej didn’t sell me a thing. I wouldn’t listen to a word that he says. All of this evidence I found myself. I have evidence to back up everything that I am saying.

Lucas: That’s enough, chad! Enough! This is the sound of better breathing.

Kate: Chad, you don’t know what you’re talking about, and that’s understandable, but if you don’t leave, I’m going to have to call the police.

Chad: This isn’t grief talking, kate.

Marlena: Chad, let’s go somewhere and talk about it. You can tell me the whole story.

Chad: Thanks, marlena, but I think I’ll stay right here. You’ll be relieved to know that I’ve said my piece. Now, it’s lucas’ turn, and believe me, he has got a hell of a story. Well, come on, we both know where this is going. You can tell it better than I can. Okay, I’ll get you started. I caught you right after you got onto the dimera computer, remember? You said you used your mom’s password. You said you planted fake documents to make it look like ej was the one that kidnapped sami. Judge bought it, ej went to prison. You sent him to statesville in your place.

Lucas: I sent him to statesville all by myself? You sure about that? Watch what you say.

Chad: It was you, because you wanted sami and you hated the idea of ever losing her to ej again. So go ahead; you can deny it. Dig that hole a little deeper, but there is no way out of it anymore.

Kate: Lucas, say something.

Roman: What’s he gonna say?

Lucas: Okay. All right.

Chad: All right what?

Lucas: All right, I admit it. I did it. I framed ej, and I’m not sorry about it.

Marlena: Oh, my gosh.

Sami: Um… what?

Belle: Why are you so quiet?

Ej: Do you think they wrote their own vows?

Belle: Why are you doing this?

Ej: All that’s left is the wedding night, samantha staring up at the ceiling while lucas snores soundly and happily beside her.

Belle: So much for not dwelling on it.

Ej: [Sighs] You’re absolutely right.

[Sighs] You seem somewhat revived after your ordeal.

Belle: Well, there’s nowhere to go but up. I can’t even imagine what I looked like this morning. I felt like I had been flattened by a steamroller.

Ej: You were only able to tell me about it in broad strokes.

Belle: Mm, you’re lucky that’s all you know.

Ej: I’m more than happy to hear some more if it would help you to talk about it.

Belle: All right. You asked for it. So you know how I told you that jan is missing and presumed dead, “presumed” being the operative word because, of course, nothing is definite. Have you ever heard the term “do or die”?

Ej: I’m familiar with the concept.

Belle: Okay, well, that’s basically what this was. Jan lured shawn down to the docks by disappearing with that poor, premature, little baby because she knew that would get him down there, and of course it did.

Ej: She actually believed that shawn would get on ben and ciara’s ship and sail off with them and the baby and jan?

Belle: No, no, no, no. Listen, jan is insane, but she is not stupid. She knew she was gonna have to knock shawn out until they were far away from the shore. Anyway, I got there, and it was just total chaos. Shawn was already knocked out, and I couldn’t find the baby anywhere, and jan is, like, raving, not even trying to cover up her craziness. And then, she starts swinging this oar at me like she’s gonna kill me.

Ej: Why would a cabin cruiser have oars?

Belle: I don’t know. You’re losing the thread here.

Ej: Oh, sorry, sorry.

Belle: Anyway, so I knew at that moment it was gonna be her or me.

Ej: And deranged or not, jan was clearly no match for you.

Belle: Well, I got lucky. It really could’ve gone either way. And, I mean, I still don’t even know if it’s over or not. Jan could be at the bottom of the river, but she could also be staging the comeback of the year. And even if she is gone, there’s still…

Ej: There’s the baby.

Belle: Yes, her son, hers and shawn’S. And I am so glad that that baby came through all of this unscathed, I am…

Ej: But?

Belle: But he need parenting– stable, loving parenting– and so, I talked to shawn before I came here. I’d like to say that I was the bigger person and said I would step up and be the mother that this baby needed.

Ej: So you would have to go back to shawn.

Belle: But how could I be a good mother to this kid? Every time I looked at him, I would see jan. So I know it sounds heartless, but I told shawn I just don’t think I can live like that.

[Clamoring]

Sami: Okay, you know what, everyone? Just be quiet for a second, please. Look, lucas framed ej for kidnapping me. That’s all this is, and we can all be appropriately shocked by it, but the bottom line is, lucas and ej have always hated each other and it has nothing to do with this wedding, all right? I mean, the truth is, ej would’ve framed lucas for kidnapping me if he had thought of it first, but he didn’T. So we’re all just gonna move on, okay? Lucas found me; he rescued me. Ej probably is the one who kidnapped me, or maybe it was someone else, but I know it wasn’t lucas because he’s looked me in the eye. I know how much he loves me. I know he’s incapable of doing something like that. That isn’t who he is.

Eric: Chad, this is not the time to start this.

Chad: I think it’s the perfect time. Sami, I’m trying to rescue you here.

Sami: [Scoffs] Well, I appreciate it, chad, but I’ve actually already been rescued by my fiancé. So eric, all you have to do is pronounce us man and wife, right?

Eric: Yeah, right.

Sami: Okay, so let’s do it.

Chad: No, not yet. I’m not nearly done, but lucas is. You know that, don’t you? I mean, sami’s right. Trying to hang the kidnapping on ej isn’t nearly enough to blow up the day. I didn’t just catch you planting evidence. You didn’t just want to set ej up. You also wanted to cover up what you did to sami. And I’m not making this up. You admitted it, didn’t you? And me? Yeah, I was pissed off at ej, so I let you get away with it, but that’s over. It’s time to man up and own what you did.

Sami: Okay, you know what? Nothing lucas will say is gonna satisfy you, chad, and I personally don’t need any sort of confessions or admissions. This is over right now. Chad, you’re welcome to have a seat and stay, or you can go, but right now, eric, come on over here. We’re gonna wrap this up. Let’s get married. Come on. My asthma felt anything but normal.

Lucas: Sami. I, um… I did it for us.

Marlena: Oh, my gosh.

Roman: What did you do, lucas?

Allie: No, you couldn’t have.

Johnny: You kept him locked up? Let me go!

Will: Johnny.

Sami: Oh, my god. Oh, my god.

[Sighs] Lucas.

Ej: Samantha chose lucas over me, and now she’s out of my life.

Belle: Mm, after how many years?

Ej: It doesn’t matter. It’s fine. And you have no idea what your future holds with shawn.

Belle: After how many years?

Ej: I’m sorry. I truly am. Let me give you some advice. One of your many fine qualities is that you’re compassionate. And you’re also a very wise woman. Unlike samantha, you take after your mother. Give yourself the gift of having confidence that you’ll know what you need and make the right decision.

Belle: Why, ej dimera, you have such unsuspected depth. That was a surprisingly unselfish thing for you to say.

Ej: Well, it’s the liquor talking. But look at the two of us. Dragged through the worst of what love and life can throw at us, and yet, here we are, still standing.

Belle: Well, technically, we’re still sitting, but…

Ej: Don’t be so literal. I’m on a roll here. I was just about to say how lucky we are to have found each other in all this madness. Hiring you as my attorney was one of my better decisions.

Belle: What was that toast you made when I came in?

Ej: “Good times.”

Belle: Yes. Well, I have a better one. Misery loves company.

Ej: I’ll drink to that.

[Tender music]

Johnny: Let me go!

Eric: Not now, johnny!

Allie: Grandma, this is the worst.

Marlena: I’m shocked at lucas. I don’t even know what to say.

Allie: Will, shouldn’t you do something?

Will: Like what, for god’s sake?

Sami: I just want to hear all of it. I just want to know why.

Lucas: Everything I did, i did because I love you so much.

Roman: That’s your idea of love?

Sami: Dad, please. Keep talking.

Lucas: I never wanted ej to find out about us, but he did, and the way he treated you after that–after everything you did for him–it drove me crazy.

Chad: Why don’t you stick to what you did?

Lucas: I thought we were gonna be together. I thought we were finally gonna have our chance, but you weren’t ready. You were just thinking about ej the whole time. You weren’t ready to move on from him. All you could think about was him. All you could think about was talking to gabi so you could get permission to move back into the dimera mansion just so you could be with him.

Sami: That’s how I ended up with the rag soaked in chloroform jammed over my face?

Lucas: I never hurt you. I never hurt you. I knew you were gonna be safe the whole time. I made sure of it.

Sami: So who were those goons? Where did you find them?

Lucas: They were guys that I knew from prison.

Chad: Where all the best people meet.

Lucas: They were professionals. They knew what they were doing. They weren’t gonna make a mistake. You were never in danger. I made sure of that. I gave them strict orders.

Sami: Wow, that’s really comforting. I’m so grateful to know that you had real, professional criminals babysitting me. What was the plan? They were just gonna keep me there until I got over ej? Is that it?

Lucas: Well, I didn’t think it was gonna be that long. Ej and nicole were going at it. They were getting hot and heavy. I know you hate nicole more than anybody in the whole world, and ej never looked at you twice. He never looked back. But you know what? As soon as everyone found out about nicole and ej, and I made sure you knew, I was gonna rescue you. I was fighting for us. Everything I did, I did for us.

Sami: You kidnapped me for us?

Lucas: [Sobbing] Sometimes you gotta play dirty to get what you want. I learned that from you.

Sami: [Scoffs]

[Chuckles] No, you’re right. You’re so right about that. I definitely know how to play dirty to get what I want, especially when I– when I want love, but this somehow feels a little different, lucas, because there I was, trapped in that horrible room, while you went home every night, crawled into your warm bed, you laid your head down on your pillow, and you were able to sleep knowing– knowing what was happening to me and how scared I was. That doesn’t sound like love. That sounds like you were making me pay for loving ej.

Lucas: No, that is not what happened. I wasn’t doing that.

Sami: I don’t believe you.

From prom dresses exactly? Did they give you updates? I mean, did you know what my days were like?

Lucas: I never meant to hurt you.

Sami: You know how horrible that room was? Well, of course you know, right? Oh, you chose it! I mean, it was really bad. It was this tiny room, and there was this busted-up cot. There was one window I could look through, but it had a bunch of bars in front of it. And then, those guys that he hired were not exactly the warm and fuzzy type, so every time I heard the key in the lock, I didn’t know. Am I getting another meal, or is this the day that they’re gonna kill me?

Lucas: That was never gonna happen.

Sami: Well, I didn’t know that, did I?

Lucas: No.

Sami: No. Did they tell you how I begged them to just explain it to me, tell me why I was there? They said they couldn’T. They said it was up to their boss, but their boss was you! Did they tell you that I cried myself to sleep every night? I was worried I was never gonna see my kids again. Did they tell you that? Did they tell you how sad I was? That I–that I missed them? I missed them so much! I missed my parents. And I was so worried that they thought I was dead. I… and you’re just walking around town? How did you look them in the eye every day? I just can’t even understand it. And then–and then you agreed to let my brother walk us through our vows. You stood there and looked me in the face as I told you that I thought you were my hero for rescuing me.

[Sobbing] I–I just realized it. I actually rescued myself. I did, didn’t I? You didn’t plan for me to get that phone. I did that! If I hadn’t called allie, would I still be locked up in that cage?

[Scoffs] Lucas, this is the worst thing you have ever done, and you did it for nothing.

Lucas: I love you, sami.

Sami: Well, I don’t love you.

[Tense music]

Chad: Yeah, you’re not going anywhere. See, sami was wrong about one thing. Kidnapping her wasn’t the worst thing you ever did. The worst thing you ever did was murdering my wife.

[Tender music]

Ej: Why don’t we take this upstairs?

Sami: [Sobbing]

Marlena: Oh, sami. Sami, you shouldn’t be putting yourself through this.

Sami: I’m so stupid. I’m just so stupid, mom. What is wrong with me?

Marlena: Nothing is wrong with you, and you are not stupid. This is on lucas. This is all about lucas. What he did to you…

Sami: Mom, it’s just that someone knew. It’s that someone tried to tell me, tried to warn me, and I wouldn’t listen. I wouldn’t listen. He tried to tell me over and over. Ej knew, and I just– I just wouldn’t listen!

[Steamy music]

As someone living with type 2 diabetes, I was just gonna forget why I came here today?

Lucas: You’re talking crazy, chad. I didn’t kill abigail! It was clyde weston!

Chad: No, he didn’t!

Lucas: The hell he didn’t!

Chad: Rafe called. Clyde’s alibi checks out, so you can’t count on him to take the fall anymore.

Lucas: What are you talking about? I would never hurt my niece. I loved her! Don’t you understand that?

Chad: Yeah, 20 minutes ago, nobody thought you kidnapped sami, and yet, here we are.

Kate: Okay, lucas, don’t even listen to him. He’s out of his mind.

Roman: He sounds pretty sane to me.

Johnny: Yeah, I’d like to hear this.

Lucas: Hear what? How did we do this? How did we go from sami to abigail, huh?

Chad: Because one thing led to another, all right? Before anyone knew who took sami, abby decided to look into it for “the spectator.” And abby, she’s a pretty good reporter, so it didn’t take her long to track down the people that you hired to kidnap sami. She was making plans to interview the guy, so I had no choice but to tell her I knew who kidnapped sami, that it was her uncle lucas. And then, that night, my wife was stabbed to death because you found out I told her what you did.

Lucas: You’re wrong, man.

Allie: Chad, please, he would not do that to abigail.

Will: Chad. Chad, she’s right. This doesn’t make any sense.

Chad: You don’t think so, will? Remember our conversation earlier?

Will: My dad didn’t tell me when he fell off the wagon, but it must’ve been recently since he still had the bandage on his hand.

Chad: He hurt himself while he was on his bender?

Will: Yeah, and by the size of the bandage, I don’t know, man, I’d say it was bad. But he was so far gone, he didn’t even remember how it happened. Chad, you’re putting the pieces together wrong.

Chad: I don’t think so. Seems to me the missing pieces are falling right into place.

Lucas: Chad, listen to me.

Chad: Listen to you? We just listened to you try to convince sami that kidnapping her was an act of love. And we all saw how desperate you were not to lose her, so desperate that you didn’t just kidnap her, you didn’t just frame ej. You sent him to statesville, and you breathed a sigh of relief.

Lucas: And you were so mad at him that you lied to a judge just to clear me.

Chad: Yes, I did, and I’ll have to live with that for the rest of my life, but my point is is you thought you had all your ducks in a row, that you had finally gotten sami back, you were finally gonna marry her. And then you found out that abby knew what you did, and all abby had to do was open her mouth and blow your dream to hell.

Lucas: I would never do that to my sister’s kid.

Roman: I’ve heard enough.

Kate: What are you doing?

Roman: Police should be here. Don’t you think?

Lucas: You don’t have to do that, roman. I’ll go down to the station, I’ll give a statement, and they’ll clear me.

Johnny: Oh, you’re not going to the police alone. I’m coming with you.

Chad: So am I.

Roman: He’s your son. You should be there too.

Kate: Um, yeah, you’re right. You’re right.

Roman: Kate, I love you.

Kate: I love you too.

[Tense music]

Allie: Oh, my god. Oh, my god, poor mom.

Sami: I just can’t stop hearing his vows in my head, that “I wanna be a better man for you, sami. I haven’t always given you my best self.” Talk about an understatement. I mean, he’s practically confessing, and I didn’t even hear it.

Marlena: Sami, you’ve had a terrible shock. Your world has been turned upside down by this.

Sami: I just can’T. I can’T. “I want to be your hero.” He said that.

Marlena: Honey.

Sami: I just can’t do this anymore! That is what I think of you and your stupid promises, lucas, and your vows.

[Sighs] What are you doing, mom?

Marlena: I’m getting the rings, and I’m gonna take you back to the house.

Sami: No, no, no. Please, no. I can’T.

Marlena: What are you doing?

Sami: No, I just have to get out of here; I can’T.

Marlena: Sami, where are you going? Sami!

Ej: [Sighs] What were you saying about misery?

Belle: [Chuckles] I’m anything but miserable right now.

Both: [Chuckle]

Belle: I’m actually grateful.

Ej: For what exactly?

Belle: For you making me forget.

Both: [Chuckle]

Ej: Well, we’re even then. You’ve done the same thing for me.

[Tender music]

Okay, this is a freezer, not a time capsule. Okay, yeah, call me if she comes back to your place. Okay.

[Hangs up] Your mother said that sami took off.

Eric: Without saying where she was going?

Roman: Yeah.

Both: [Sigh]

Eric: You okay? I mean, that’s a lot to take in.

Roman: He came to see me.

Eric: Lucas?

Roman: Mm-hmm, for my blessing. The whole bit. So proper, so respectful. Can you believe that? What kind of respect did he show sami when he kidnapped her, huh? And when he had to finally admit it, it felt like my head was gonna explode! If we hadn’t been in a church, he’d be in a hospital right now.

Eric: What about the other things that chad said? I mean, do you think there’s any possibility?

Roman: Well, at this point, I don’t think you could rule it out.

Eric: Guess not.

Roman: No, chad was right. Lucas would’ve done anything to keep that secret from coming out. What I don’t understand is how he was able to keep it going for so long.

Kate: I still think that you should have an attorney present.

Lucas: I don’t need an attorney. I’m innocent.

Chad: Tell that to rafe. He’s on his way here. He wants you to wait in there.

Kate: Okay, now just stop it, all right? I know that you’re hurting, but you have no idea what happened.

Chad: I don’t? That’s news to me.

Johnny: You know, it’s bad enough, you framing my dad. If you did this too…

Lucas: I didn’t, all right? I couldn’t have.

Kate: Okay, look, I think the reason that rafe wants you to wait in that room is so you won’t have to talk before you know what you want to say.

Lucas: Right, right. Fine.

Chad: I want you to go wait outside for rafe. I don’t want him getting waylaid on his way here.

Johnny: Sure.

Chad: Rafe is gonna ask me how I put the pieces together to come up with lucas.

Kate: So you’re going to tell him that I told lucas that abigail knew, right?

Chad: You better get roman ready for what’s coming.

Kate: Mm, thanks, chad.

[Tense music]

[Door opens]

Lucas: What are you doing here?

Chad: [Sighs] I sent your mom and johnny away, and rafe’s not here yet, so it’s just you and me. You got drunk, and my wife was a threat to you and sami.

Lucas: You don’t know what I thought; you weren’t there.

Chad: We both know what happened next.

Marlena: I heard chad say when he came into the church, “you killed my wife.” I thought he didn’t know what he was talking about.

Will: He’s convinced dad killed abigail to keep her quiet.

Marlena: Well, keep her quiet about what?

Allie: The day she was killed, abigail found out that dad kidnapped sami.

Marlena: [Exhales sharply] I can’t believe it. I can’t believe that lucas is capable of that.

Allie: Neither can we.

Ej: [Panting]

[Groans]

[Moans]

Belle: [Chuckles]

Ej: What if I ring harold and get him to bring– bring up a bottle of champagne?

Belle: What are we celebrating?

Both: [Chuckle]

Ej: The fact that this day has taken a decided turn for the better.

Sami: [Knocks at door] Ej, are you in there? We need to talk.

Ej: Oh, my.

Belle: What the hell is she doing here?

Marlena: Um, I’m just remembering that sami came by the house this morning. She was so happy, so excited about the future.

Allie: Yeah, I saw dad. He was happy too.

Marlena: Yeah, I imagine he was; he thought he had gotten away with it. By the time I got to the parking lot, your mom was gone, but we have got to find her.

Will: Yeah. Well, shouldn’t somebody stay here in case she comes back?

Marlena: Why would she come back here?

Will: Looking for allie and me maybe?

Marlena: Oh, darlings, I’m so sorry you had to find out about it this way. It’s awful.

Allie: Yeah, it’s the worst.

Marlena: Well, we’ve got to find her. Yeah, I will stay close. Stay close.

Allie: Mom’s rings. I can’t– I can’t take this in, will. I don’t understand any of it.

Will: That’s because it’s a nightmare.

Allie: [Sobbing]

Eric: We should try to find sami.

Roman: You do that. I’ll stay in case she comes back here.

Eric: Okay, good idea. I can see her deciding she needs you now.

Roman: Yeah. Okay.

[Pensive music]

What are you doing here? Should you be at the police station with lucas?

Lucas: You have to listen to me. I would never take a knife and stab my own niece!

Chad: Yeah? Then what is that?

Sami: [Knocks at door] Ej, I really need to talk to you.

Ej: What are you doing?

Belle: I can’t let her find me in here!

Sami: Come on, ej. I know you’re in there.

Ej: What are you doing here, samantha? Why aren’t you with lucas?

Sami: Well, I would’ve been except… ah, look at what we have here. Who does this belong to?
