Kyle: No, but I’m sure she’s around here somewhere. House arrest humor.

Jack: Not funny. And don’t let your mother hear you joking like that.

Kyle: Have you seen summer this morning by chance?

Jack: No. Have you tried texting her?

Kyle: I was hoping I wouldn’t have to. Last night, it felt like we were reconnecting. She apologized for being distant and pulling away, but she’s left without a word to me. Again, I wish it didn’t get to me, but it does.

Jack: Well, we’re all under a pressure cooker. There’s no telling how anyone’s going to react.

Diane: Oh, the conquering hero has returned.

Jack: Well, I don’t know about hero, but I got a book.

Diane: Yes, from a bookstore. So, you spoke to people. Thank you.

Jack: When you are a free woman, I will take you anywhere you want to go.

[ Diane exhaling ]

Diane: You know what? Let’s just go now, okay? Come with me, jack. Let’s just get out of here.

Michael: There she is, my favorite district attorney. Beautiful morning, isn’t it? I assume, since you picked the restaurant, I’m gonna pay.

Christine: Always a pleasure, michael.

Michael: Oh, oh, and you’re gonna offer, um, an insulting plea bargain, I’m gonna let you know right now that my client will most assuredly decline it, in the light of the fact that her supposed victim is, um, wait for it, still alive. Boom.

Christine: No deal.

Michael: And if I’m not paying, then why are you wasting my time?

Christine: There’s been a development.

[ Summer sighing ]

Summer: Getting coffee?

Daniel: No. I’m picking up something for lucy.

Summer: Let me guess, cinnamon bun?

Daniel: How do you know that?

Summer: We’re a family of cinnamon lovers.

Daniel: Must’ve skipped me.

Summer: Like so many other traits.

Daniel: Hm?

Summer: Let’s just skip it.

Daniel: Good idea. How are you doing?

Summer: I don’t know. My mom is in exile, jack and kyle just want to drag her back so she can be arrested and diane is dying to be my bestie, so I’m pretty much living a nightmare.

Daniel: Well, I know one thing that can make all your worries just disappear.

Summer: Magic?

Daniel: Mom comes home. No matter the consequences. Just like that.

Summer: Just like that? I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

Daniel: You know, when I talked this through with lily earlier, she made a lot of good points about accepting responsibility and earning forgiveness.

Summer: You told lily? All of it? Wow. Daniel, are you seriously incapable in keeping a secret? What’s wrong with you?

Daniel: I’m sorry, because I want our mother to come home? Yes, how dare I?

Summer: She’s not home if she’s in a prison cell. That part doesn’t seem to bother you at all, does it? But, there’s still time. Our special guest hasn’t arrived yet.

Nick: I’m gonna stop by later. I’m, uh, really calling about cameron. Have you talked to chance? Does he know anything about cameron’s location?

Sharon: Not yet. But on the bright side, I haven’t received anymore creepy postcards or bloody souvenirs.

Nick: Well, let’s hope it stays that way.

Sharon: You know, maybe this is all a misunderstanding and cameron’s still in prison. The twisted gifts are the last desperate acts of a man who’s locked away from society.

Nick: But why reach out now? You know, after all this time?

Sharon: I’m trying to set this aside for today.

Nick: Yeah, I hear you, sharon, but until we hear from chance though, we have to err on the side of caution. If cameron has been released, you have to protect yourself and you can’t do that until you know for sure.

Nikki: Nicholas?

Nick: I gotta run. Call me if you learn anything, okay?

Sharon: I will. Bye.

[ Footsteps ] Hello?

Faith: That’s how you welcome your daughter? What are you doing?

Sharon: Um, I’m cleaning up. Come in. You’re here. You’re home. You made it.

Faith: Oh, mom. It’s so good to see you.

Sharon: Let me look at you, my sweet girl.

Faith: Wait. I brought someone home from school. He didn’t have anywhere to go. I really hope you don’t mind.

Nick: We should be ready to close that deal once we get the paperwork back from legal.

Nikki: To hell with the paperwork. Cameron’s been released? Where is that monster now?

[ Cameron sighing ]

Cameron: Ah.

Nick: We don’t know if cameron’s been released. It’s just speculation at this point.

Nikki: Well, how did this issue even come up?

Nick: It’s just curiosity. Nothing more.

Nikki: Because if he has been released–

Nick: Mom, we will be all over it. I promise you, if anything changes, I will tell you.

Nikki: Please do. Because we can’t have a repeat of that situation. How’s everything else?

Nick: Well, I’m glad you asked. We need to talk.

Nikki: Okay, if it’s about the abu dhabi deal–

Nick: It’s not. It’s about vic and nate. What’s your opinion about that? Actually, let me give you mine first. It is a disaster waiting to happen.

Summer: Do you even… do you even know what loyalty is? Or– or how to keep a secret?

Daniel: Yeah, you might be used to this level of chaos and deception. I am not.

Summer: Right. Your life is perfect and righteous. I forgot.

Daniel: Yeah, I needed one person to talk to. Someone who wasn’t going to condemn me. Someone who could maybe see my side of things. That person happened to be lily and you just can’t accept it. You gotta turn it into this huge betrayal.

Summer: Fine. Have a friend, but you better hope that she is better at keeping a secret than you are. I’m so stupid. Like, why did I even tell you any of this?

Daniel: It doesn’t matter. Mom called me too. She may not have spoken on the phone, but I knew it was her. So, I would’ve figured it out eventually.

Summer: You know what, daniel? You need to be careful. Because if other people start finding out about this. I don’t know, people who… own media companies, then you are putting our mom in serious danger.

Daniel: You seem to be the one with all the knowledge. So, what do you suggest we do?

Summer: She stays hidden. Until we can prove that the situation she was in was kill or be killed. I don’t know, maybe we– we try to find the emt. Stark must’ve paid him off to do what he did.

Daniel: That’s a good point.

Summer: So, we find him, we get him to corroborate mom’s story–

Daniel: We can’t put all our trust in one guy though. Especially when his whereabouts are unknown.

Summer: Well, what else are we gonna do? We can’t just do nothing.

Daniel: What about kyle?

Summer: What about kyle?

Daniel: You know that this is upsetting him. You know he doesn’t like seeing his mother suffer like this.

Summer: Yeah, living in the lap of luxury, surrounded by her family. Poor diane.

Daniel: Mom started this. She’s the one who chose this path.

Summer: People make mistakes, daniel. Chance. Hi.

Chance: Hey.

Daniel: What’s up, man?

Chance: A lot, actually. I have some news.

Summer: How bad is it?

Chance: Depends on how you look at it.

Kyle: Uh, can I get you anything?

Diane: Yeah, yeah. A night at the movies. A day at the park. Feeding the ducks at the pond with harrison.

Jack: We will have all of that if we just show patience and a little bit of faith.

Diane: I’m trying.

Jack: I know.

Kyle: I was worried you were gonna bolt. Set off the alarm bells.

Diane: No. I’m not running anywhere. I have too much to stay for. But phyllis, on the other hand, she’s probably off on some island, sunning herself.

Jack: I know it’s frustrating, but we’re not giving up, are we?

Kyle: Someone will find her, the charges will be dropped, and we’ll all go back to our normal lives.

Diane: But time is running out.

Jack: Wait, why do you say that?

Diane: Because the longer it takes to find her, the farther away she can get. She can change her name. She can meet all the right people who will help her do all the wrong things. Trust me, trust me. I know how easy it is for a motivated person to disappear.

Kyle: They are going to find her.

Diane: I don’t know. By then, I may be rotting away in some prison cell. I think– I think we all just need to come to terms with it. It is what it is.

[ Doorbell ringing ]

Kyle: Hi. Um, come in.

Christine: Sorry to barge in like this.

Michael: But this is one of those times where you, um, don’t wanna kill the messenger.

Jack: Has something happened?

Michael: I wanna see the look on diane’s face when she gets the news.

Christine: We’re dropping the charges.

Diane: What?

Kyle: Yes! I knew it.

Jack: Some prayers are answered. Wow.

Diane: Wait. It– it’s true? This is real? It’s over?

Christine: It’s really over.

Diane: Oh, god. Kayaking is my thing.

Sharon: You– you brought a friend home?

Faith: I hope it’s not a big deal. I told him it wouldn’t be.

Sharon: Well, it’s not moses, is it?

Faith: No, but moses loves him too. I’ll be right back.

Sharon: You know, if you’d told me that you were bringing someone, I would’ve straightened up the guest room.

Faith: He can fall asleep anywhere. You’ll love him. Everybody does. Mom, borgnine. Borgnine, mom. He’s a cat.

Sharon: Yeah. Well, welcome borgnine. As long as you’re here, you’re family.

Faith: Speaking of family, when do I get to meet my new niece? I can’t wait to cuddle something that doesn’t shed on me.

Tessa: Did we hear someone asking about a niece?

Sharon: Hey! Come on in. Come in. Ah, I love having a full house. Everybody please, take a seat.

Mariah: What is going on here?

Sharon: Um, this is a cat.

Mariah: Oh.

Sharon: Who is staying in faith’s room, right now. Just a sec.

Mariah: Wow.

Faith: Is this our bundle of love?

Mariah: Oh, yes. Aria, I’m so glad you’re awake because you are about to meet somebody very important.

Tessa: See, this beautiful young woman is your aunt faith.

Faith: Hello, aria. I’m so happy to finally meet you. I have waited for this moment for such a long time. Normally, I would tell you that I’ll be the one to take you for your first tattoo or concert, but since your moms came pre-loaded with that stuff, I’m pretty sure it won’t be a problem.

Tessa: Well, that will be a long way off.

Mariah: Thank you.

[ Mariah and faith laughing ]

[ Faith sighing ]

Faith: She’s so beautiful. I love her already. Welcome to the family, aria.

Nikki: Well, it’s a shame that elena had to be hurt in this. She’s a lovely young woman. But victoria seems very happy.

Nick: Oh yeah, she was real happy about ashton too. And we know how that turned out.

Nikki: Yes. But, there was no way she could have known that he was the monster he turned out to be and anyway, we all welcomed him into the family.

Nick: No, not all of us.

Nikki: All right. The thing is, victoria does not need a chaperone.

Nick: We’ll agree to disagree on that.

Nikki: What do you have against nate? I mean, we’ve known him forever.

Nick: He was different then. Now, I don’t know. It’s like he can’t operate, so now he’s just stabbing everybody in the back. This isn’t gonna end well. Not for any of us.

Nate: Latte delivery.

Audra: You’re a mind reader. Thanks. Come in. Tell me everything I need to know.

Nate: What? About the streaming deal?

Audra: You said that you had some updated numbers that we can plug in.

Nate: Ah, yes. I meant to bring that printout, but I got distracted by something else.

Audra: Something… important?

Nate: Breakfast with victor.

Audra: What did he want? And how bad did it get?

Nate: Oh, it was going great. And then, we started talking about his daughter. And my future.

Diane: No murder charge? No– no trial? It’s all just wiped away?

Christine: The lead detective found evidence that phyllis was alive at the time of her memorial.

Michael: No body, no murder, no crime.

Diane: This is unbelievable.

Kyle: But how?

Christine: Well, chance followed up on the strand of hair that you found at the motel, which led him to finding a program from phyllis’ memorial.

Michael: Yeah. The lab examined the evidence, they found phyllis’ fingerprints as well as her dna, which proved that she was very much alive after she was declared dead.

Jack: There it is. What did I tell you? The proof we’ve been hoping for.

Kyle: You made it, mom. You’re free.

Christine: So, on behalf of the prosecutor’s office, and myself, I just, want to apologize. These were extraordinary circumstances.

Diane: So, what happens now? Now that you know that phyllis is alive? What happens to phyllis?

Chance: So, the lab ran some tests on evidence I found and they just called me back with the results.

Daniel: Is it a match to our mom?

Chance: You were right to believe your brother. Phyllis is alive. And you did see her, like you said.

Summer: So everything daniel said is true.

Daniel: I would imagine that this means D.A. Will drop the charges against diane.

Chance: Yeah. They’re telling her right now.

Summer: Oh, she must be thrilled. I’m sure you are too, right? Is this what you hoped? Diane is free. But what about my mom? What’s gonna happen to her?

Chance: Look, it’s out of my hands at this point. All I know is that when we find phyllis, she will be facing charges.

Summer: If you find her.

Chance: Oh, we’ll find her. Christine is not gonna let her get away with this. I guarantee, she’ll call a press conference and have a perp walk when we find her.

Summer: Christine has always had a grudge against my mom.

Chance: Well, after the money, the man hours, and the embarrassment, phyllis is now the poster girl for what happens to the rich and powerful when they bend the law. Christine wants her to pay.

[ Summer exhaling ] I won’t let me moderate to severe plaque psoriasis

Faith: Is it possible that aria’s even cuter when she’s asleep?

Tessa: No, that’s what I’ve been saying.

Faith: You can wake her up and do a comparison.

Tessa: Don’t you dare.

Mariah: I will kill you.

Faith: I’m kidding. I would never.

Mariah: We have house rules.

Tessa: You wake her up, you put her back.

[ Faith laughing ]

Faith: I want to know everything. Every time that mom calls, she’s always too busy to asking me about myself to tell me what I’m missing.

Sharon: Well, some things you need to hear about in person.

Mariah: I mean, you know about the gala. And phyllis.

Faith: It’s awful. Poor summer. I’ve called and texted but she never answers.

Sharon: Don’t take that personally. She needs time.

Faith: How’s dad?

Sharon: You will see for yourself soon.

Faith: And how about new motherhood to the world’s cutest baby?

Tessa: It’s the hardest job we’ll ever love.

Faith: I love that. Anything else I’m missing?

Sharon: Um, I’m just happy to have all my ladies here with me. Other than that, um, nothing unusual.

Cameron: Money doesn’t have much of a conscience.

Sharon: Yeah. Well, what about you, mr. Kirsten?

Cameron: Well, my conscience is, um, is kind of like my lawyer, my accountant. I can consult it, but, uh I don’t always follow its advice.

Sharon: If you ever, ever, mention to my husband having met me before, I will make sure that the whole world knows what a sicko you are.

Cameron: Don’t threaten me. Because you know what? I got nothing to hide. Now you, on the other hand, you seem to feel you have quite a bit to lose.

Sharon: My children are young, okay? They need me. Now, what possible pleasure could you get out of harming them? Well, that was a stupid question, wasn’t it?

Cameron: Not at all. I like that you came looking for me. So, we can discuss this privately.

Sharon: Please tell nicholas that you can’t make this dinner.

Cameron: Let me ask you something. Do I get a, uh, a little something in return?

[ Cameron sighing ]

Christine: At the very least, phyllis is guilty of fraud and obstruction of justice. On the other end of the spectrum, we have the murder of jeremy stark.

Michael: Which was reportedly self-defense.

Diane: Yeah.

Christine: Once they can track down how the ambulance crash was staged and how the bodies were switched out, that list is gonna get longer and longer.

Jack: It finally happened. Kyle, what do you think?

Kyle: It’s great. I mean, we can pick back up where we left off, wherever that was.

[ Laughing ] I need to find summer. She has to hear this from me.

Daniel: I’m just glad that diane can be back with her family, for good. We both are.

Summer: Right. Yeah. Of course.

Daniel: I just wish we could do the same for mom.

Chance: Well, look. Everything’s up in the air until we get a statement. I gotta run, but I’ll be in touch with any updates.

Summer: Wait, chance. That can’t be it. You must’ve found something else in the motel. Evidence to prove that it was self-defense?

Chance: The room wasn’t even preserved a crime scene. I was lucky to find what I did. Any sign of struggle, it was long gone somewhere.

Summer: Well, how am I supposed to help my mom?

Chance: You know I can’t advise you on that.

Summer: But she is innocent until proven guilty, right? All I’m asking for is that she’s able to come home without an extended prison stay. Look, any guidance that you can give me.

Chance: I’ll do what I can. Within the bounds of the law, okay?

Summer: Of course. I wouldn’t expect anything else.

Chance: First of all, phyllis needs to come home and she needs to make a statement. We all need to hear this from her lips. (Wheezing)

Audra: You went toe-to-toe with victor newman himself and lived to talk about it.

Nate: It wasn’t toe-to-toe. It was a friendly conversation.

Audra: Does victor do friendly? He was trying to get a read on you, which basically determines your entire future. So, tell me all the details.

Nate: Well first, we started talking about my past as a physician. All the while, I’m trying to figure out what this meeting was about. Then, he brought up victoria.

Audra: Nothing like a little fatherly interference.

Nate: That’s when I knew that the only way out was being totally honest.

Audra: And that’s when you lost your job.

Nate: Will you please let me finish the story? He mentioned a time I did him a favor, that almost led to me losing my job. I was his personal physician for a while, and it almost cost me my medical license. Boy, was I furious, for a while. But, I understand him and his family better now.

Audra: I mean, it sounds like he trusts you. That’s worth a lot to men like him. You impressed an actual legend. That’s pretty huge. And now you’re seeing his daughter, and it sounds like you have his blessing.

Nate: But there’s this one problem.

Audra: Name it.

Nate: Nick.

[ Girls laughing ]

Mariah: Hey.

Nick: There she is.

Faith: Hello.

Nick: Look at that. We sent away a little girl, they sent back a scholar.

Faith: Oh, it’s so good to be home.

Nick: Hey, don’t stay away so long next time. I mean, noah got tired of waiting and he just took off.

Faith: Untrue.

Nick: Okay, that’s probably right.

Faith: It is so not my fault. He opened up a glam club in the uk.

Sharon: He’s back in his old stomping grounds.

Mariah: And it’s safe to travel there now because his ex lives here.

Faith: And allie’s learning the ropes at the jabot lab in paris?

Sharon: Oh, did he tell you? It is the sweetest thing. Each weekend, one of them takes the train to visit the other. Or, they both spend a few days in some other country in europe.

Faith: Poor kids. Their lives are so empty.

Nick: Yeah, their passports are probably junked up with a bunch of stamps from exotic locations.

Tessa: Yeah. Like, why couldn’t they just do something romantic instead?

Mariah: Like come babysit.

Tessa: Yeah.

Faith: As gorgeous and time consuming as aria is, it’s no excuse to put your music on hold, tessa. Next on my road to building my business portfolio? I think I should start guiding your music career.

Tessa: Can we bring the baby on tour?

Mariah: I mean, I can work remotely for jabot.

[ Doorbell ringing ]

Nick: Are you expecting anyone else?

Diane: Right now, I am thinking about the one person who can give me what I want.

Michael: Don’t look at me, I’ve done all the tricks I know.

Christine: Oh, I think I know who she’s looking for. Oh.

Michael: Ah.

Christine: Right on cue.

Chance: Morning.

Diane: Good morning.

Christine: And on that note, my work is done here.

Jack: Christine. Thank you.

Diane: Yes, thank you so much.

Christine: All right, she’s all yours.

Chance: All right.

Diane: And I cannot wait another second.

Chance: It’ll be quick. I promise.

Kyle: Chance, we owe you our thanks, and probably a few apologies.

Jack: Absolutely. I wasn’t always my best self in all of this and I know that.

Chance: Well, work usually starts with the worst day of someone’s life, so I get it. No apologies needed. All right. You are free to go. Or stay here because you live here.

Diane: I am free to come and go.

Kyle: You can live your life again. How do you feel?

Diane: I feel fantastic. Thank you. Thank all of you for everything. You’ve– you’ve given me my life back.

Daniel: I just hope that wherever mom is, she is staying safe.

Summer: You’re the one that put her in danger. Now, you’re worried about her? That’s really rich.

Daniel: I know, it’s all my fault. You did nothing wrong. She did nothing wrong.

Summer: Daniel, I told you that she was alive in confidence. And look at what you’ve done?

Daniel: God, I am so sorry that I have a conscience.

Summer: There’s a full-blown manhunt for our mom.

Daniel: I know.

Summer: All she wanted was to get her ducks in a row. Was that really too much to ask?

Daniel: Diane might disagree.

Summer: Yeah, well diane has her own family that is worried about her. Mom is supposed to be our family. I mean, you heard chance. Christine is out for blood.

Daniel: Do you wanna keep going off on me? Or do you wanna actually try and maybe work together and figure out a way that we can help mom.

[ Summer exhaling ] Okay, look, have you left anymore messages for her on that number that she called you from?

Summer: No.

Daniel: Maybe we need to change tactics. Maybe, I should call her, I leave her a message, tell her that the police are looking for her, beg her to come home.

Summer: Absolutely not. You do that and she’s gonna run and she’s never gonna look back. Not for her own sake, but for us. All she cares about right now is protecting us.

Daniel: Why does it sound like you have inside information? Like you know what’s going on inside mom’s head?

Summer: Because we think alike.

Daniel: Have you been in touch? Have you seen her again? Summer, do you know where she is? We’re done.

Audra: How is nick a problem for you?

Nate: He’s had it out for me at least since victoria gave me sally spectra’s job. And now, he sees I have the chops for this job he didn’t think I deserved. I’ve watched him over the years.

Audra: What’s your read?

Nate: Tenacious. And that’s when he doesn’t even give a damn. But this is about me and his sister. He didn’t trust ashland and he was right to do so, but now he thinks he’s victoria’s noble protector. And he’s not giving up.

Audra: What will you do?

Nate: Handle the problem.

Audra: Well, he’s a newman. Handling him is going to be a delicate operation.

Nate: And that’s where you come in.

Nick: Did that wake up the baby?

Tessa: No, I don’t think so.

Nick: I thought I heard her fussing a little.

Faith: I didn’t hear anything.

Nick: Well, that’s because you don’t have supersonic parent hearing like we do, faith. I mean, even while she’s asleep, she’s adorable.

Tessa: I just could not agree more.

Mariah: I mean, sometimes we’ll just look at her at home for hours and hours. It’s very, very hypnotizing.

Nick: What about you, faith? Are you hypnotized by your niece?

Faith: She’s great. But when will she start doing… stuff?

Mariah: Well faith, that is a very good question. You know the child development books say that around six months, she starts doing stuff.

Faith: I didn’t mean it like that.

Mariah: Is my child boring to you? She’s boring you.

Faith: No. I love her. I could just use some feedback.

Mariah: Oh, I’ll give you some feedback, college girl.

Faith: Oh, what’s in the box?

Mariah: I wish it was pizza.

Tessa: In the morning?

Mariah: What? I’m hungry.

Faith: I thought it might be cat food for borgnine. I placed an order before I came home.

Nick: What? You have a cat?

Faith: Yeah.

Nick: A live one?

Faith: Yeah.

Tessa: Cute.

Nick: Where is it?

Mariah: It’s in her room.

Tessa: When do we get to see him?

Faith: I know. I have to show you.

Jack: It feels like christmas.

Diane: We have so much celebrating to do.

Jack: Kyle said this day would come.

Kyle: Yeah, I just wish summer was here.

Jack: You know this isn’t gonna be easy for her. Great that phyllis is alive, but–

Kyle: She’s gotta wonder where she is, worry about what’s next for her legally. Not to mention all the guilt. Knowing her mother was so hell-bent on revenge, she was willing to go to–

Diane: Nothing from summer yet?

Kyle: She’s not answering my texts.

Diane: Oh, I saw her this morning. She was taking a big bag of things to the clothing drive at the women’s center.

Kyle: She didn’t mention anything about that to me. I’ll see if I can catch up with her. Let you two get reacquainted.

Diane: But before you go. Kyle I– I don’t know what I would’ve done without your love and your faith in me.

Jack: Hey, he wasn’t alone.

[ Diane laughing ]

Diane: Okay. Both of you. No, seriously, I will never forget what you did for me and um, I will spend the rest of forever showing you how much you mean to me.

Jack: Get over here.

Kyle: Aw.

Summer: I know what mom’s thinking because I know how she thinks.

Daniel: If you know where she is and you’re not telling me–

Summer: Then I’d have a very good reason, wouldn’t I?

Daniel: Oh, come on, summer. Is she okay? Will you at least tell me that? I mean, I deserve to know that. Is there something that I can do to help?

Summer: Our mom is a survivor. She can take care of herself.

Daniel: Yeah. Yeah, you’re right, summer. You and mom, you are just two of a kind. But you know, as tough as you are, sometimes you need some help. You can’t just fix this on your own.

Summer: You’ve done enough already. So thanks, but no thanks.

Daniel: If you wanna blame me, fine, blame me, but at least give me the chance to help turn things around and help with this. We need each other right now whether you want to admit it or not. Mom knows that too.

Summer: I know where she is.

Daniel: How is she?

Daniel: Is it that obvious?

Lily: Well, only to the trained eye.

Daniel: Do you want a cup?

Lily: Um, no, I’m good. I’m gonna be charged and centered.

Daniel: Yoga?

Lily: Yeah. You wanna join me?

[ Daniel chuckling ] No? Okay.

[ Lily laughing ] You know you can always call me, right? Even if it’s the middle of the night. I really wish there was something I could do to help you.

Daniel: Would you, um, would you actually come up to my room for a minute? I gotta tell you something.

Phyllis: Every slug leaves a trail. Where’s your trail, stark? And will it help clear my name?

[ Phyllis sighing ]

Diane: Summer, where are you sneaking off to and what’s in all the bags?

Victor: Good morning, detective.

Chance: Morning.

Victor: How are you?

Chance: I’m all right. How’re you doing?

Victor: All right. You know, I often thought about our last few conversations and I now have a deep understanding of what happened between you and abby. So, if I said things to you that were hurtful, I apologize. You got every reason to raise a fist against me.

Chance: At you? I’d be foolish to try.

[ Victor chuckling ]

Victor: Anyway, I think you’re a good man. You do well. All right?

Chance: I appreciate that.

Victor: Okay. Before you go, let me ask you something else. The accusations against diane jenkins regarding the murder of phyllis summers, are they true?

Chance: I know this is not what you wanna hear, victor, but I am not at liberty to divulge any information about an open investigation.

Victor: So, this is your polite way of saying you won’t keep me in the loop?

Chance: It’s exactly what I’m saying.

Victor: All right. Have a good day.

Billy: I hadn’t even gotten there yet, vic.

Victoria: Well, what happened to all of your support? The “way to go, victoria?” Am I about to get a ticket from the billy abbott morality police?

Summer: Oh, um, I was just getting donations together for the clothing drive at the women’s center.

Diane: Oh, how charitable of you? I– I wish I would’ve known. I’m sure there’s a few things I could have added.

Summer: Well, they do it a few times a year, so. Uh, and this one actually is just for kids’ clothes, so.

Diane: Oh, I see.

Summer: I’ll let you know next time.

Diane: Oh, please do. You know, I wish I could go with you and help out. I’m going crazy stuck in this house.

Summer: It’s just as well, because I– I think I’m gonna go for a long drive afterwards to clear my head, you know.

Diane: Of course. Summer, I don’t mean to keep you.

Summer: What’s up?

Diane: I’m sorry. I’m sure you’re wondering what I’m apologizing for, but I’m sorry that my situation is causing so much stress between you and kyle.

Summer: Kyle and I are gonna be fine.

Diane: Well, just know that I want this case resolved as much as you do. More even.

Summer: I’m sure that you do, diane.

Diane: Yeah. And while I have my own issues with your mother and the horrible position that she’s put us all in, especially you, I want you to know that I– I do still care for you. And I am here for you and kyle, whatever you need, just let me know.

Daniel: Thank you for giving me a minute. I don’t even know how to say this.

Lily: That’s okay. Is it about lucy?

Daniel: No, she couldn’t be better.

Lily: Okay. Good. Is it work? And I’m– I’m asking as your friend, not your boss.

Daniel: We are on schedule and under budget.

Lily: Okay. Good. I love hearing that.

[ Lily laughing ] It’s about your mom?

Daniel: That’s the one. Yeah. That whole general area right there.

Lily: Yeah. What’s going on?

Daniel: Did you notice that I haven’t been grieving as much as I was when we first heard about what happened?

Lily: Well, I mean, everyone grieves differently. That’s natural.

Daniel: No, there is nothing natural about it and that’s the whole point. There are things that have happened that I had no control over, but I did not do something and I regret it.

Lily: What did you not do?

Daniel: I did not tell you the truth. And it’s only because I was sworn to secrecy and I don’t know. The whole thing is just driving me crazy.

Lily: Okay, daniel, what’s going on? What happened?

Daniel: My mother is alive.

Daniel: So that’s, um, that’s the whole story for now. Can you say something please?

[ Lily exhaling ]

Lily: I– I don’t think I can, ’cause I think if I do, you’re gonna end up hating me.

Daniel: No, never.

Lily: Daniel, like what? Like what– what world does your mother think it’s okay to fake her own death?

Daniel: I mean, in her defense–

Lily: Are you– are you being serious right now?

Daniel: She wanted to end the charade, but stark stopped her. I mean, he tried to kill her, so she had to stop him first.

Lily: Sorry. Stop him how?

Daniel: It was self-defense.

Lily: Wait, are you telling me that she killed jeremy stark?

Daniel: He attacked her first. He attacked her first.

Lily: I– I– I– I– I don’t even know what to say. Nope. Not gonna say anything. It’s your mother. You thought she was gone and you’re happy she’s back and that’s your priority.

Daniel: Listen, I brought you here because I wanna hear what you have to say.

Lily: Daniel, this is not what a mother does. A mother protects her children and behaves in a way to show her children how to behave in the world, whether you’re an adult or a child. She let you think that she was dead. She let you grieve and then she kills jeremy’s stark? She frames diane. She won’t come home to clear diane until she’s sure that she’s off scot-free. I am sorry, but your mother is selfish and she’s a coward.

Victor: Now, this is not a grilling, it’s a friendly catch up. It’s been a while.

Nate: It has.

Victor: You’ve seen our family go through ups and downs. We have known you for a while.

Nate: Things were, uh, complicated then.

Victor: Yeah, that’s putting it mildly. So, you’ve learned how our family operates.

Nate: I’m gonna take a stab in the dark. I’m here because nick is opposed to me on every level. Not only does he want me out of newman media because of sally, now, he’s questioning my character.

Victor: I form my own opinion about people, nate.

Nate: I appreciate that about you.

Victor: So, it’s no secret that your relationship with my daughter, victoria, has gone beyond the professional.

Nate: This is true.

Victor: But as her father, you can imagine that I would like to know a bit more about you personally. What do you think?

Nate: I like that very much.

Billy: So, I’m a hypocrite for having an opinion about nate?

Victoria: Oh, having it is one thing, but sharing it with me, that’s another thing.

Billy: Okay, fair enough. The view from my glasshouse is legendary. So, how about this? I’ll put down my sticks and stones if you do the same thing. No talk of romance or relationships or any of that. We’ll talk about the kids. How about them kids, huh?

Victoria: Let’s talk about the kids, yeah. You know, johnny, he, um, he’s been going on and on about this big family dinner that you had the other night.

Billy: Yeah. Crazy times.

Victoria: Yeah. You wanna remind me of that eclectic guest list again? It was your ex and her current and your girlfriend and johnny and connor and daniel’s daughter.

Billy: All came out of the blue.

Victoria: Yeah. Well, I can’t see anybody wanting to plan that on purpose.

Billy: It was the spur of the moment and we went with it.

Victoria: That’s nice.

Billy: You actually sound like you mean that.

Victoria: I do. I’ve heard lucy’s name mentioned around the house a few times, so i guess she’s made a real impression on our son.

Billy: Yeah. Felt like there was a little something in the air. How about that? We’re all following our hearts, as it should be. ‘Cause you never know who life is gonna throw your way.

Victoria: Yeah, that’s true. God knows I didn’t– I didn’t see this coming–

Billy: Careful. This is a risky conversation. But since you brought it up, are you happy?

Victoria: I’m very happy.

Billy: Then, I’m happy for you.

Victoria: Thank you. Because at this point I would hate to have to hide anything in my life. And work and family and personal, it just– it keeps getting better and better.

Chance: What’s new in the lab? Please tell me you’re calling about that miracle I asked you to work? Yeah. What do you got? Walk me through it. Okay. Yeah. What do you know? Okay. Yeah. Thank you. I, uh, I owe you big time. Dinner it is. Absolutely. Yeah. You’re the best. We’ll see you.

Phyllis: Everybody leaves breadcrumbs, stark. Everyone. There’s gotta be some sketchy search or some email you forgot to encrypt. Something that gives me proof that I did the right thing by defending myself. I’ll find it.

[ Door knob jiggling ] Oh, it’s you. Good, good, good. Oh, my gosh. I missed you. Not just because I’m starting to talk to myself and I am really starting to talk to myself, just so you know. Are you okay?

Summer: Yeah, I’ve been better.

Phyllis: Oh, all right. Good. I’m glad you’re okay. So, so…

[ Summer exhaling ] Did anyone see you in the lobby?

Summer: No, I took the stairs.

Phyllis: Okay, good.

Summer: What have you found out?

Phyllis: Um, I’m trying to find out something about that emt guy.

Summer: The one that stark paid off?

Phyllis: Yeah, his name is carson.

Summer: Oh, I’m sure that stark paid really well. He’s probably living on a tropical island by now.

Phyllis: Well, I mean, it’s not a lost cause. We can still find some proof.

[ Laughs ] So, um, talk to me about, you know, your monster in-law. I mean, is she just in all her glory wrecking me over the coals because she knows I’m alive?

Summer: She restrains herself.

Phyllis: Hm. Does she? There are other ways to be awful. Trust me. What about christine? She still doesn’t buy daniel’s story that I’m alive?

Summer: Oh, my god, daniel. I–

Phyllis: Oh, my god, daniel what?

Summer: I don’t wanna talk about him, okay? He opened his big mouth to the wrong people.

Phyllis: Okay. Well, I mean, I understand what you’re saying and I have a problem with him doing that too. I mean, I would’ve loved to have more time to come up with a plaN.

Summer: What we needed was an ironclad justification for what you did. That was supposed to be step one.

Phyllis: Let’s look at things from daniel’s perspective, okay? Let’s just–

Summer: No. I don’t wanna look at it from daniel’s perspective. I don’t– I don’t understand his perspective and I’m never going to. Ultomiris is for adults with generalized myasthenia gravis

Phyllis: All right. Sorry. I don’t wanna tell you how to think or feel. You’re an adult. I just hate it that my kids are at odds, that’s all.

Summer: I just don’t– I don’t understand why he’s so infuriating. I– I literally asked him to do the simplest thing.

Phyllis: Well, it’s because he’s danny’s son. And danny has a moral compass that’s just stuck at do the right thing.

Summer: What does that say about ours?

Phyllis: Well, our moral compass is sort of like, uh, you know, do what you have to do. Do what’s necessary to get the job done. Listen, if you both had been raised by me, daniel would be, you know, more like us. You know, more shoot from the hip, more flexible.

Summer: Didn’t turn out that way, did it?

Phyllis: No. But you know what? We’re a family. We are a family, summer. And sometimes we disagree and we fight and we do the wrong thing, but we make up. I mean, look at me. I came back from the dead. Anything can happen, so.

Summer: Mom, I sincerely hope that you have a backup plan.

Phyllis: Obviously, I have a backup plan.

Summer: One that doesn’t involve you disappearing if things don’t go your way?

Phyllis: Yeah. You know what I wanna do? I wanna repair what’s been broken. I did this. I ruined the relationship between you and your brother, okay? I wanna repair that. I mean, I cannot believe that I’ve put you guys in this position, all right?

Summer: Mom, what you need to do is focus on clearing your name so that you can come back to us for real. My relationship with him, it’s not a priority.

Lily: Look, I’m sorry. That came out a lot harsher than I meant it to.

Daniel: No. No. I mean, if we can’t be honest with each other, why even bother, right?

Lily: Look, I understand your mom’s instinct to wanna run away from what’s coming for her, but at some point, you have to face your fears. And what she’s doing is she’s taking the easy way out.

Daniel: She’s not gonna stay gone forever.

Lily: No. Just until she faces zero consequences.

Daniel: She’s coming back one way or the other.

Lily: Really? Are you sure?

Daniel: Yeah. I have to be sure because, you know, the alternative is… it’s unthinkable.

Lily: God, I– I hate what her choices are doing to you.

Daniel: What was it like for you? After the accident with hilary. Going to prison.

Lily: It was awful, you know. I didn’t wanna go, but I knew that I wouldn’t be able to look at myself or look devon in the eyes again if I didn’t pay for what I did. Like someone died because of my actions. There has to be consequences to that.

Daniel: Prison must have been brutal.

Lily: Yeah, of course, but, you know, there’s a silver lining to everything. And I met a lot of amazing women. You know, I got to help a few and– and I came out stronger for it.

Daniel: Not many people would’ve done what you did.

Lily: I don’t think that’s true, daniel.

Daniel: Look at my mother. I mean, she’s willing to frame an innocent woman and let her go to prison for murder, and summer, summer’s not much better. She’s following right behind mom in her footsteps.

Lily: Absolutely. I agree with you. And I do not respect their choices, but I support you and I know that you love them.

Daniel: Yeah, I do love them, but I don’t know if that’s enough anymore. I mean, how the heck are we supposed to ever be a family again?

Victor: If I hadn’t seen that with my own eyes, I wouldn’t have believed it.

Nate: That is an incredible story.

Victor: I know, right? Another example of how life can surprise you when you least expect it, you know?

Nate: Truer words were never spoken.

Victor: That’s right.

Nate: You know, um, I know you’ve heard this a thousand times, but you’re the reason I enrolled in business courses in college.

Victor: You serious?

Nate: Yes. I– I picked up a copy of your biography, man and myth.

Victor: That was from another lifetime.

Nate: I wanted to learn more about the company and the man that meant so much to neil.

Victor: Yeah, well, neil was one of the few men I trusted, you know?

Nate: Yeah.

Victor: He was a good friend.

Nate: Yeah. Deeply missed. And, uh, as I got deeper and learned more about your life, what struck me was how you managed to create so much, build so many companies from practically nothing

Victor: Got lucky.

Nate: [ Laughs ] I’d say it’s more than that. But I admire your modesty, as well as the way you’ve nurtured and raised your daughter.

Victor: So, just cut to the chase, nate. What are your plans for my daughter?

Christine: Hey, I got your message. You said you had news?

Chance: I just got off the phone with the lab.

Christine: So, the results are in? Okay. Break it to me gently. How bad is it?

Nate: I know a few ceos and even fewer surgeons who are shrinking violets. I think what led me to medicine was my mother. I wanted to follow the example she set, so when I learned I couldn’t operate anymore, um, I felt I needed a new outlet.

Victor: Ah. Let me ask you, doing surgery must be incredibly stressful.

Nate: Indeed, it was. Yeah. But I– I lost that gift and found I had another in business.

Victor: Uh-huh.

Nate: And victoria has been a big part of that. Her support, her faith in me. She accepts me for who I am and where I am. It’s been, um, it’s been a hard road lately. I’m not sure how much you’ve heard.

Victor: Some.

Nate: Mm-hmm. When your family turns their backs on you, when they revile you, say you’re bringing shame to the name that you’re different.

Victor: And you feel less than appreciated.

Nate: [ Laughs ] Exactly. So, it’s reassuring to be appreciated so fearlessly.

Victor: Mm-hmm.

Nate: I need people like her in my life.

Victor: Now, you know what she had to endure during her marriage with ashland locke.

Nate: Oh, I would never undermine her or the company in any way. Hell, she’d never allow it, neither would you.

Lily: Forget about my feelings about phyllis and summer and what they did, okay? What matters is you helping your sister get your mom back here to clear diane, okay? Do it for diane. Do it for yourselves. It’s the only way to move forward.

Daniel: Yeah. What mom did–

Lily: Let a judge and jury decide what should happen.

Daniel: There’s no way summer or mom are gonna let that happen.

Lily: Well, you know what? You’re not responsible for their choices. You’re responsible for your own. And that includes you mending things with your sister.

Daniel: Summer doesn’t want anything to do with me.

Lily: Why not?

Daniel: Because I opened the vault. I told everyone that mom was alive.

Lily: Yeah. You were just doing what you thought was best for your mom.

Daniel: Exactly. I mean, I thought michael could come up with a solid self-defense case while diane was being cleared of the charges against her.

Lily: Okay. Look, just let michael deal with the legal stuff. All that matters right now is you fixing things between the three of you. You will never regret giving someone forgiveness and grace because that’s who you are.

Summer: You know what? There’s a lot that I would do for you, a lot. Because you’re my mom and I love you, but I’m– I’m sorry you don’t get to dictate how I feel about your other child.

Phyllis: My other child? Seriously? You won’t even say his name? Summer, what is this? This is not nothing.

Summer: What we need to focus on right now is this mess that you’ve created.

Phyllis: That jeremy stark created. I was manipulated.

Summer: Yeah. Your husband.

Phyllis: Summer, I made a mistake.

Summer: Mom, this mistake– this mistake is gonna land you in prison if we don’t get this right.

Phyllis: That laptop right there, that’s gonna bolster my case.

Summer: Okay. Well, I would hope that you’d be doing more than online shopping on this thing, so it’s good.

Phyllis: I got that at a pawn shop.

[ Chuckles ] Ask me about the wisconsin penal code. I know it by heart, by the way.

Summer: Is there anything in there that would help you?

Phyllis: Well, I haven’t come up with anything yet, but I’m doing research on, you know, jeremy stark’s emails. I’m doing a deep dive.

Summer: Okay. Anything there that would prove your case?

Phyllis: To support my claim of self-defense? That’s what you mean, right?

Summer: Yes.

Phyllis: No, I haven’t found anything yet. Summer, I will. Summer, you gotta trust me. And we gotta think smarter. You know why?

Summer: Tell me.

Phyllis: Because the two of us together are way smarter than jeremy stark ever was. And there is something out there that will get me off the hook for this. I know it and we will find it.

Chance: The program from phyllis’s memorial was covered in prints. And miracle of all miracles, we managed to get dna results from the tear stains.

Christine: And what did they tell you?

Chance: Everything is a match for the deceased.

Billy: Well, how do we make that happen? Because if you don’t rise up out of this as a free woman, it could very well destroy my brother and quite possibly my entire family.

Victor: Well, nate, this has been edifying. Thank you for your candor.

Nate: It’s been my pleasure. I always enjoy spending time with you, victor, with the icon and with the man.

Victor: I’m sure we’ll see each other soon again?

Victor: All right.

Victoria: What did I miss?

Victor: What do you mean? What did– were you spying on us? You could have joined us.

Victoria: No, I wasn’T. I was walking back to the office and I saw the two of you talking. I didn’t wanna intrude. It looked important.

Victor: It was.

Victoria: Well, are you gonna tell me anything else about the results of your grilling?

Victor: Why do you always assume that I grill people? Can’t I just have a normal conversation with someone?

Victoria: [ Laughs ] No, not that I know of. So?

Victor: He’s all right. He’s a good guy.

Victoria: Yeah, he’s driven. He’s very ambitious.

Victor: Well, now those are qualities that I really appreciate, unlike your brother.

Victoria: But do you approve of us, daddy?

Victor: You don’t need my approval. Yes, I do.

Chance: So, they matched the dna from the tear stains to the blood sample that was recovered from the crash. And as for the prints–

Christine: Yeah. Well, for all the time she’s been brought up on charges, her fingerprints are definitely in the system.

Chance: A match.

Christine: So, what’s the rest of the bad news?

Chance: Since the programs from the memorial were printed after her death–

Christine: It can only mean one thing. Phyllis is alive. Oh, how I would love to get my hands on phyllis summers. Don’t you quote me on that.

Chance: Didn’t hear a thing.

Christine: I– I’m glad she’s alive, but I’ve never wanted to kill someone as much as I wanna murder her right now.

Chance: It was a lot simpler when she was dead. This is off the record, by the way.

Christine: Damn it, phyllis. This was supposed to be my great return to the prosecutor’s office, and she engineered this whole thing. What in the hell was she thinking? And now you’re telling me she did actually show up at her memorial? Think about that. She watched her family grieve and give their eulogies and cried. I mean, what kind of narcissistic, self-absorbed, twisted personality does such a thing?

Chance: She could have got the programs from stark.

Christine: Oh, and cried afterwards? Why? Because she was so moved by the type setting?

Chance: Maybe her conscience was getting to her after she thought about what she did.

Christine: I mean, think about it. She did all of this, all of it to make one woman suffer. It was vindictive. It was vicious. And if she went to all this trouble to fake her death, you can be damn sure she went to that memorial. She watched it play out. God, I wish I had thought and believed that phyllis was alive.

Chance: And the plan was for me to keep eyes on the suspect. I didn’t know I was supposed to watch out for the victim too.

Christine: You know what really gets me? All these big fish in the small pond, bending the law to fit their needs, they want us to protect them and give them resources when a crime is committed against them, but when they’re the ones that cross the line, no, they want us to look the other way. Well, forget it. I am gonna make sure they all get the justice they deserve.

Daniel: There is, uh, something that we haven’t discussed.

Lily: What is it?

Daniel: How good are you at keeping secrets?

Lily: Daniel, I’m not gonna say anything to anyone. I promise you.

Daniel: You have this quality that makes me wanna tell you things. I’m just wondering if I should ignore that voice in the back of my head.

Lily: Look, I am here to support you, but from what you told me, I’m not the only one who knows about this. So when it goes public, there will be fallout.

Daniel: Yeah, I know. I thought about that. No one’s gonna come out at this looking good, including me.

Lily: Look, I’m here for you, okay? I know who you are.

Phyllis: This is all extraordinary. All of these snacks.

[ Phyllis laughing ]

Summer: Guess everything tastes better when you’re in hiding.

Phyllis: Well, you know what? I was right when I called you my secret weapon. You are. You know all the foods that I love, even the products I love.

Summer: Mom, those are your products that you left at the grand phoenix when, you know.

Phyllis: Oh, when diane poisoned me and I died? Okay. Listen, I’m not trying to make a joke. I’m sorry. I’m sorry for what I did. And I want you to know I’m going to spend the rest of my very long life trying to make it up to you and your brother.

Summer: Focus on clearing your name so you actually can come back to life, okay? I didn’t do all of this just so you could go to prison.

Phyllis: All right. I’ll do my best.

[ Summer sighing ]

Summer: But for the time being, this room, this is your prison cell, okay? Until further notice. I– I’m serious, mom. Don’t leave this room for any reason.

Phyllis: You don’t trust me?

Summer: No. Stay put.

Diane: She who laughs last laughs loudest. Just wait and see.

Billy: Do you have a judge in your pocket?

Diane: Better. I have truth on my side.

Billy: I’m sure half of the people in prison say the same thing, so… what is it? Do you know something that your lawyers don’t?

Diane: Just this, I have no intention of going to prison for phyllis’s murder. They’ll clear my name. They have to. My future with jack depends on it.

Christine: Phyllis and stark did all of this. They fabricated and planted the evidence that directed us right to diane.

Chance: Yeah, a lot of work went into this plan.

Christine: They had the entire town grieving. They exploited the services of the emergency medical team. And don’t even get me started on the storm they created at the morgue. It’s reprehensible and chance, it’s just the beginning.

Chance: Does this mean you’re buying the evidence?

Christine: I can’t ignore the obvious. Phyllis is alive and she has no idea what she’s unleashed.

Sally: Yeah.

Chloe: But we’re so good.

Sally: I know. I know.

Chloe: I mean, I got all beautiful for this.

Sally: Hey, a busy woman is a beautiful woman and that is the face that we have to put out to the world.

Chloe: Fake it ’til you make it.

Sally: Yes, employed or not, we have to stay in circulation and be seen by the people who are making things happen. Keep them wondering what we’re up to.

Chloe: Right. Yeah. I saw that hot design team out at the athletic club the other night.

Sally: Yeah, they must be celebrating getting a new client.

Chloe: Right, so we’re just practicing for success.

Sally: Yes, exactly. It is only a matter of time. In fact, you know what? Sparkling cider is on me.

Chloe: Smile.

Lily: Hello, ladies.

Devon: Hey.

Chloe: Lily, devon, hi.

Devon: It’s good to see you two.

Nick: I, uh, only know what my daughter tells me. When I think about what happened to her mom…

Christine: You mean the murder?

Nick: I mean, she was one of a kind. It’s gonna be a long time before we get over losing her.

Summer: You must feel better now that you’ve had some food.

Phyllis: Yeah, I do. What would I do without you?

Summer: Let’s not even go there.

Phyllis: I mean it, summer. It’s like you’re my own personal emergency kit, and you’re on it. Seriously, you know how I feel and you can turn on a dime and you’re one step ahead of anyone who tries to best us.

Summer: Got lucky, I guess.

Phyllis: Well, I don’t know if I’m lucky, but you are my secret weapon, so that’s– that’s luck. Look at you, you’re a C.E.O. And a mom, a wife. Oh, and you are stronger and more fierce than you ever were, aren’t you?

Summer: Turns out helping your dead mother stay one step ahead of the police counts as cardio.

Phyllis: Okay. You’ve been through a lot the last few months.

Summer: Ever since italy, it feels like I’ve been to hell and back.

Phyllis: I know, I’m sorry. You– you didn’t even get a chance to sort of work it out and move on, did you? And here I come back with this whole new mess. Oh, I should’ve stayed away. This was wrong.

Summer: No, mom. Don’t– don’t– don’t say that. Don’t– don’t think like that. I– I’m so happy that you’re here.

Phyllis: Yeah, I, yes I can see that.

Summer: Mom, I don’t know what to do. I don’t know how to act. I mean, yes, you’re alive, but I’ve got to keep it a secret. You can’t even leave this hotel room without being caught and prosecuted. There’s so many people out there that are still mourning your loss. I mean, you’ve turned our whole lives upside down.

Phyllis: I know, that’s what I do. I kind of turn lives upside down, don’t I? Listen, my heart goes out to every single person who I have affected by this. Mainly you and your brother. Please believe me when I say that I’m gonna spend every single day to try to make it up to you, but I came back because I saw how much pain you were in at that celebration of life and which wasn’t actually much of a celebration at all, was it?

Summer: You did what?

Phyllis: I was there. I mean, to hear yourself eulogized… oh, wow. It really puts things in perspective.

Sally: Lily and devon aren’t responsible for jill’s decision to put a pause on our plans with chancellor-winters. And she got word from victor not to give us that job the first time around.

Chloe: Yeah. I mean, your little bundle of joy’s good old granddad, he’s always sticking his nose in everyone else’s business. Better get used to that.

Sally: Okay. Focus with me on our future.

Chloe: Mm, do we have one?

Sally: Okay. We might not be on anyone’s top ten list yet, but we keep pitching ideas and putting ourselves out there, right?

Chloe: Yeah, out there, is right. We’ve been pitching to some pretty weird places, you’ve got to admit.

Sally: Okay. Well, that’s how we make a name for ourselves. Going where other designers fear to tread.

Chloe: Right. Beautifying one space at a time. I mean, even the unconventional.

Sally: Hey, especially those. What we could have done to that car repair waiting room, transformative.

Chloe: And don’t tell me our plans for the dental practice wasn’t next level.

Sally: Hey, a boutique clientele deserves high-end style.

Chloe: Yeah, but that’s the problem. No one can afford us.

Sally: I am not lowering my standards just to–

Chloe: What? Make a client happy or get our foot in the door so we can get this job going?

Sally: Are you saying I’m rigid?

Chloe: Would it have killed you to just accept nick’s offer to back our business?

[ Sally sighing ]

Nick: It doesn’t matter how old you are when you lose a parent, it changes you forever. When I look at what daniel and summer are going through, I just can’t help but wish they had more time with their mom.

Christine: Well, you’re a good dad, nick. I’m sure summer knows that you’re there for her.

Nick: I sure hope so.

Christine: Um, you know, I see a chance. I have to talk to him.

Nick: Oh, yeah. No worries.

Christine: If I can just leave you with one thing, I… just know, justice will be served.

Nick: I believe you. It’s good seeing you.

Christine: Yeah, take care.

Nick: What’s up, man?

Sharon: How you doing?

Nick: Hanging in. How about you?

Sharon: Good. Well, better. I know you felt guilty about bringing up that wine stain on that bottle of champagne that showed up out of nowhere.

Nick: Yeah. Saying that it looked like blood, sorry.

Sharon: Yeah, it’s okay. We both know that was silly.

Nick: Well, I’m just glad you got rid of it.

Sharon: Yeah, I can buy my own champagne.

Nick: Of course, you can.

Christine: The message you left about finding new evidence.

Chance: It could be proof that phyllis is alive.

Christine: What kind of evidence are we talking about? Partial response: the first one to sit down hereighting with you like that.

Lily: What do you think dad would say if he were here right now?

Devon: Oh, he would say, “what took you so long? Let’s celebrate.”

[ Lily laughing ]

Lily: I hope you know, I really hated fighting with you like that.

Devon: Oh, yeah, I hated fighting with you too. We got through it though. And I know neil would be the first one to sit down here and say that he was the reason we got through it too.

[ Lily laughing ]

Lily: Oh, my god, he so would. And now look at us, we can do this. After the dinner I survived.

Devon: Um, who did you have dinner with?

Lily: Hm. Uh, daniel, lucy, chelsea, billy, johnny, connor.

Devon: Oh, that sounds fun. Dinner with your ex and his date and their kids.

Lily: Yep.

Devon: And daniel.

Lily: Yep.

Devon: How are you? What’s– what’s going on with the two of you these days? Is there anything I should know about?

Lily: No, no, no, not now. I mean, we could have maybe had something, but I think the timing is off.

Devon: I’m sure. I mean, losing a parent throws your whole world off.

Lily: And she was a powerhouse.

Devon: Yeah, I still can’t believe she’s gone.

Christine: So, nick newman is completely unaware that some of phyllis’s nearest and dearest are claiming that she’s still alive.

Chance: That’s interesting.

Christine: I mean, isn’t that information you tell your father? That phyllis still walks among us?

Chance: They got some complicated family dynamics at play right now. And after trauma like that, there is no normal, not for a while anyways.

Christine: So, what’s the latest?

Chance: So, I went to stark’s last known residence, a motel room where he was using an alias.

Christine: Oh, wait, please say that he left something in that room that we can use in court.

Chance: Nothing. I couldn’t get confirmation that the shower curtain was missing. A lot of the cleaning crew turn over there, but the shower curtains they have are the same type, same brand that stark’s body was wrapped in.

Christine: So really nothing.

Chance: Not exactly. I did find a program from phyllis’s memorial outside the room.

Christine: And that would interest me why?

Chance: This one was stained with what appears to be mascara-tinted tears.

Summer: You did what? You were– you were there. You– you saw what losing you did to us.

Phyllis: I needed to know.

Summer: You needed to know what? That your plan to make us suffer was a success?

Phyllis: No. No, I needed to see how my children felt about me. I needed to know that, summer. And I saw how much pain you were in. But I knew you had something up your sleeve because you had it at the jazz lounge. So, I knew you were working something and you were fierce. You were amazing. And you had diane on a hook and you kept on pushing and you didn’t let her go. And you pushed her to the breaking point.

Summer: Yeah. Well, I thought that she’d killed you.

Phyllis: Yeah. And finally, I won. But I lost my kids and I saw how much you guys were suffering. So, did I really win? You know, you needed your mother.

Summer: Of course we did.

Phyllis: So, I didn’t win, did I? And I was so vindictive and I was wrong. I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry for what I did to our family. I’m so sorry.

Sally: I could have accepted nick’s offer.

Chloe: We’d be in business right now.

Sally: But I wanted to do this on our own.

Chloe: It’s just seed money. A few thousand to sprinkle around, help us grow. Branch out. Money is opportunity and protection. It’s a shield.

Sally: Yeah, you’re right. All across the board. And– and I would have loved to have taken the hand out.

Chloe: Okay, great. Well, then all you have to do is pick up the phone.

Sally: Okay, chloe, look at me. And please just try and see me like a newman would. All trust was gone after summer went to milan. And they choose to forget that I designed the most amazing wedding dress ever created for victoria. And then, I had the nerve to attempt a relationship with adam. And even though I put newman media on the path to success, now that I am pregnant with the newest newman, they’ve probably decided that I’m just going to use her as my meal ticket.

Chloe: Yeah, but it’s not like he’s going to invest in the company and then go tell his family that he did. I mean, they would never know.

Sally: But I would.

Chloe: He wants to give you this money because you’re good and because he believes in you.

Sally: I just don’t want to take advantage of my relationship with nick.

Chloe: Because of the baby?

Sally: Well, yes. Yeah. Yeah, because of the baby, but also because nick has a case of the l word.

Chloe: Love?

Sally: Nick told me that he is in love with me.

Chloe: Oh, that is so sweet and romantic and annoying because this explains the business decision. Um, well, congratulations. Really.

Nick: I’m just saying, the learning curve for somebody like sally is gonna be a lot steeper. She doesn’t have any family in town. I mean, she’s got chloe, but chloe’s got her own kids and is raising her own family. I don’t know. Who’s gonna teach her all the baby stuff? Sharon? What’s wrong? With moderate to severe plaque psoriasis,

Chloe: I can’t believe you didn’t lead with this. I mean, this is the good stuff. This is the stuff that we should be celebrating.

Sally: He turned my suite into a romantic oasis.

Chloe: Ah, no.

Chloe: I’m kidding. I mean, well kind of, I am. I look, I am so happy that one of you geniuses finally figured it out and spoke up the truth.

Sally: Oh, has it just been awful?

Chloe: Yeah, it’s been brutal. I mean, I’ve just been, like sitting there quietly just rooting for you guys. I mean, the amount of hours that I have spent talking to kevin about you and how I could just make love happen.

Sally: You’re a very dedicated partner and a loyal friend. So there’s only one way that I can pay you back.

Chloe: A raise?

Sally: Your freedom.

Sally: Look, you have been so good to me and you’ve held on through the ups and the downs and the sideways and any time that I wanted to give up, you were there to–

Sally: Look, I love you too much to just keep disappointing you.

Chloe: Wait– wait, are you saying this because we’ve been let down yet again? I mean, come on, I’m not just gonna scurry off because of that. I’m sorry, but I am made of much sterner stuff than that my friend.

Sally: So you’re still in?

Chloe: We’re a team.

Sally: Even though I won’t take nick’s offer.

Chloe: We don’t need it. We have something way more valuable than nick newman’s money.

Sally: Well, I’m dying to hear what this is.

Chloe: We have talent, tenacity, and a brilliant business plan. Jill loved it. I mean, that was before her budget came up and bit her on the bottom line.

Sally: So, our mission is to find someone who is visionary enough to hire us even though we have no track record?

Chloe: Fall in love with us, sight unseen.

Sally: Or we give an old option something new to see.

Lily: Hm. I have something in my car for you for my favorite nephew.

Devon: Oh, my gosh. Stop buying him stuff. You’re spoiling him.

Lily: What are you talking– you did the same thing with maddie and charlie. Oh, how’s the co-parenting thing going, by the way, with chance?

Chance: So, the single strand of red hair that jack and kyle find, we both know a judge could easily discount that. Hair travels. The wind, animals, clothing, you name it. We don’t know when it got there, how it got there, or how long it was there before jack and kyle found it. But how the hell could tears from the deceased show up on a program that was printed after her death?

Christine: We still don’t know that those tears are phyllis’S.

Chance: Testing for dna and checking for prints as we speak.

Christine: How soon ’til we get those results?

Chance: I called in a few favors.

Christine: I owe you.

Christine: Oh, god. Going to her own memorial? It’s exactly the kind of outlandish thing phyllis would do.

Sharon: It’s the same handwriting that was on the note that came with the champagne bottle.

Sharon: This is just another instrument of torture, don’t you see? Denver, colorado, where we met? The champagne bottle that I used when I hit him? The blood?

Sharon: I didn’t want to speak the words out loud, but now…

And then other people tried to help me, but I just saw all of their help as judgmental and that they were trying to correct me and– and I didn’t know what to do, you know. So, I just felt– I felt like everyone abandoned me and no one was helping me, for sure. And they– and they certainly weren’t gonna stop diane.

Summer: That’s when stark stepped in.

Phyllis: Yeah. And he saw how vulnerable I was and he weaponized me. I was alone and he understood and he seemed to care and he pushed my buttons. He knew exactly what to say to me. He came up with a plan and how could I say no?

Summer: He convinced you to fake your own death and frame diane.

Phyllis: So finally, everybody would see how dangerous diane is. But I brought this hellishness into our family.

Summer: I can’t let you do this. I can’t let you take all the blame.

Christine: So, let me know the minute those results come in.

Chance: I’m on it

Christine: And chance, thank you. Really, for all your hard work. This is my first case back as D.A. All eyes are gonna be on us.

[ Sally laughing ]

Summer: There is more than enough blame to go around. You know, you needed my love and support. You needed somebody in your corner that was gonna say, “you know what? Diane is not trustworthy.” And she’s never gonna be my favorite person and she’s not even gonna ever be a decent mom.

Phyllis: Not a decent mom like me?

Summer: No, she could never be like you. I pushed you away when I should have kept you close, mom. You’d already lost so much. And I just– I couldn’t see it at the time and I’m just, I’m sorry.

Phyllis: No, it’s not your job to take care of me.

Summer: Yes, it is.

Phyllis: No, it’s not.

Summer: Yes, it is. We’re family. We’re a team, right? You’ve always had my back. I didn’t have your back and I mean, look at what happened, look at this mess. I– I should have done more.

Phyllis: Hey, I’m glad I have you now, okay?

Summer: Mom, you never lost me.

Phyllis: Yeah, but I’ll never be the kind of mom that I was before, you know, I was forced to…

Summer: Mom, you did what you had to do to stay alive.

Phyllis: I killed jeremy.

Summer: He was trying to kill you. It was self-defense.

Phyllis: It doesn’t matter. I killed him and by the way, the authorities, they won’t see it like that. They’ll think that I tried to cover it up after I faked my own death.

Summer: Shady, maybe, but I don’t know how illegal that is. I mean, look, you– you faked your death at his urging, right? With his assistance.

Phyllis: Oh, my goodness. Look what I’m doing to you. I’m putting you in the position where you’re aiding and abetting. No, I can’t do this. Oh, my gosh, I can’t do this.

Summer: Mom, I want to help you.

Phyllis: I know– I know you want to help me. See, I know that. This is how you’re gonna help. You’re gonna leave here, you’re gonna go home and you’re gonna take care of your family, all right? I don’t want to get you involved.

Summer: It’s a little late for that.

Phyllis: Okay, what do you want me to do? You want me to hide out in the room and run from the police and just so you can maybe visit me in jail? Or you get charged for aiding and abetting and they’re– we’re in the same prison, maybe and–

Summer: Okay, please stop talking like this, please.

Phyllis: If you want to help, go home and take care of your family. Take care of daniel, please. And I will keep watching you from afar. And I will never stop loving you and your brother, ever. But I have to stay away. I have to, I have to, summer.

Summer: No, mom. I’m sorry, but you don’t get to tell me how to handle this. Walking away now, it’s not an option.

Nick: If this psycho is contacting you–

Sharon: Well, we don’t really know that it’s from him.

Nick: Sharon, you just said–

Sharon: I know. I said that both items came from cameron, but that was just a knee-jerk response. You know, a traumatic experience like that, it never really goes away, so some of the old fears cropped up again for a second. But who knows? This could just be some sort of coincidence.

Nick: I trust your instincts and you should too. If something about this feels off, then it probably is.

Sharon: You’re right. But we need more to go on than just gut instinct. We need facts.

Nick: I think it’s time we bring chance in on this.

Sharon: Yes. Good.

Nick: Hey, uh, when you get a minute.

Chance: Yeah, absolutely. I used to pre-rinse dishes cause my old detergent

Sally: I can’t tell you how excited we are to be working with chancellor-winters on this project. And I promise, you will not be disappointed.

Lily: I know, we expect nothing less than your best.

Sally: Well, count on us to deliver.

Lily: And speaking of deliveries, where are we in terms of completion?

Sally: Well, I haven’t had a chance to look at our calendars yet, but rest assured, this baby will not delay us.

[ Lily chuckling ]

Lily: Oh, you’re being serious?

Sally: Yeah, I’ve always been a hard worker, committed and focused.

Lily: And no baby is gonna change that, right? Look, I’m not– I’m not trying to scare you. I mean, the changes are amazing and it is so worth it. But, you know, it’s– it’s a lot.

Sally: Yeah, I’ve– I’ve just been so focused on being pregnant, I guess I haven’t really gotten into how to be a mom yet.

Lily: I know. Well, everyone’s gonna tell you that it’s magical and it’s intense, which is true. It is. Right, ’cause all of a sudden you have this human that you’re responsible for. To keep them happy and healthy, but you will also experience a love that you couldn’t imagine. And all you want to do is just protect them from the world because you know what it’s like out there. But then you have to trust that you brought them up to be strong and you have to let them go, and you do.

Sally: You miss them, don’t you?

Lily: Yeah, of course, I do. They’re a part of me. You know, when they have joy, I have joy, when they hurt…

Sally: You hurt.

Lily: Yes. But it is worth it, every second.

Sally: And what about your work? Your career?

Lily: You’ll be fine. You’ll figure it out. There’s a balance, right? You– you’ll know what to do. But also, you have to ask for help. You do. Yes, you do. So repeat after me, I will ask–

Sally: Ask for help whenever I need it.

Lily: Yes, you’re gonna do great. Don’t let me down.

Sally: I will not.

Lily: Okay.

[ Sally sighing ]

Summer: Look, I– I know that I haven’t always been there for you, but I am here now, okay? For us.

Phyllis: This is us now.

Summer: Yes. Whatever happens to you, it happens to me. I think I forgot that for a second. But mom, whatever you need from me, support, evidence, unconditional love, snacks, whatever it is, I am here for you and I am not going anywhere.

Chance: What’s going on? Is everything okay?

Sharon: You don’t need to know all the awful details, but years ago, a man went to prison for some things that he did to me and some others.

Chance: Well, I’m sorry to hear that.

Sharon: Well, I’ve got the feeling that he might be trying to get back in touch.

Chance: Would you like me to look into it?

Sharon: Please.

Nick: Anything you can find.

Chance: Just give me a name.

Summer: You have ruined everything for mom. If the police take this seriously, then they’re gonna look for her and if they find her, they’re gonna throw her in prison before she has a chance to clear herself.

Daniel: But on the flip side, diane will be out from underneath a murder wrap and she’ll be free to live her life again.

Summer: It’s not a fair trade.

Daniel: Is it fair for us to keep sitting on this secret? Is it fair to keep lying to kyle?

Summer: I don’t know. I wish that I had all the answers, but I don’T. I have been trying to get in touch with mom on the number that she used to set up that meeting with me. I’ve left her messages, I get no response. I’m worried that she already knows that you’ve told half of genoa city and you’ve scared her away.

Daniel: I have told the people that need to know in order to get her the help she needs to come home.

Summer: You keep telling yourself that. I’m gonna live in reality where you have just made everything worse.

Lily: Hey, stranger.

Daniel: Hey, when did you get back?

Lily: I just got back from the airport right now. Come here.

Lucy: Oh, welcome back, lily. Dad must’ve missed you.

Devon: Uh, it was nice of the nanny to be able to stay late so we can have some time together.

Abby: Yeah, I agree.

Devon: Uh-oh. I recognize that look and that tone of yours. What’s wrong with you?

[ Abby sighing ]

Abby: I’m looking forward to a relaxing evening, but something is bothering me, a lot.

Devon: What’s bothering you a lot?

Abby: It’s about my mom and your dad.

Devon: Okay. I know you’ve been worried about them for a while now.

Abby: But now, I’m worried that she’s thinking about marrying him.

Tucker: Sorry to put you on the spot like that.

Ashley: You’re not. I mean, you kind of are, but that’s okay.

Tucker: Well, you did proclaim your love for me in front of jack and diane, rather loudly in fact. And then you informed them of our engagement without warning me first. So, I thought I played along rather brilliantly.

Ashley: You were good.

Tucker: If I must say so myself.

Ashley: You were terrific.

Tucker: And I– I know for you it’s just an act, but are any of the emotions behind it real? Because I– I think I deserve to know where things stand.

Ashley: You’re right, you do. You deserve to know how I feel.

Christine: Hey, I just wrapped up in court when I got your text. Do you have good news for me?

Chance: These days, I don’t really know the difference between good news and bad news.

Christine: Okay. Well, let me rephrase the question. Do you have anything to bolster my case against diane?

Chance: The evidence I’ve seen actually points in the opposite direction.

Christine: Evidence? From jack? Well, I guess his phone call really got to you the other day.

Chance: I heard him out.

Christine: And?

Chance: Well, what he found isn’t enough to close the case, but it did confirm my hunch that there could be more to this.

Christine: As in phyllis is still alive, watching diane twist in the wind?

Chance: Look, christine, if there is something going on, I want to find it. Either way, we should put our doubts to rest, don’t you think? Or are you gonna convince me not to investigate?

Summer: Hi there.

Sharon: Hi, you. It’s good to see you. I’ve been thinking about you. How’s everything going?

Summer: Oh, you know, some good days, some bad days.

Sharon: Well, that’s to be expected. As long as you know that you have a very large and caring support group. There’s a lot of people who love you, summer.

Summer: I do know that, it’s the only way that I’m gonna get through any of this.

Sharon: Good. It’s important to remember. What can I get you?

Summer: Um, two large coffees and like a bag full of carbs, please.

[ Summer sighing ] What is it?

Sharon: Just the way you said a bag of carbs just now reminded me of phyllis. And that’s– it’s a good thing. You know, it may not seem like it yet, but eventually you’ll get to the place where you’re very grateful for all the ways that you’ve learned how to keep her memory alive.

Summer: Yeah, I know my mom isn’t fading away any time soon.

Phyllis: Okay, supergirl, your mom needs you.

Daniel: Uh, no, actually the kid here and I, we already have plans.

Lucy: Wait, you should totally come with us.

Lily: Okay. Where am I going?

[ Lucy and daniel laughing ]

Daniel: I promise you, you’re gonna remember that you already have plans when I tell you what it is.

Lily: Oh, is it that bad?

Daniel: It’s dinner at society with johnny, connor, chelsea, and billy.

Lily: Um, that’s random. How did that happen?

Daniel: That is a very good question.

Lucy: Wait, what am I missing here?

Daniel: I promise the three of us will all go to dinner real soon.

Lucy: Oh, dad, come on.

Lily: I would be honored to come.

Daniel: Well, that doesn’t sound like sarcasm.

Lily: Well, no, it’s not. I– I’ll go, I mean, we can all be adults, right? It’s fine.

Lucy: Wait, be adults about what? Someone tell the kid what’s going on.

Lily: It’s fine. I will fill you in when we are on our way there. Let’s go.

Christine: So this strand of long red hair that jack found, how are we supposed to know it came from stark’s motel room? Is there security footage to back him up?

Chance: No.

Christine: Cell phone video? Anything? Are we just supposed to take jack’s word for it?

Chance: I poked the same holes in jack’s story, but something’s not sitting right with me. I want to follow up on it. I want to check out the motel room myself.

[ Christine sighing ]

Christine: Well, look, chance I can’t tell you to walk away from this because you’re not my direct report. And, I’m not gonna try and talk you out of it because I know how you are.

Chance: What’s that? Pigheaded?

Christine: Uh, tenacious. But I do trust your instincts. Look, the new chief won’t be too pleased if he thinks you’re taking time away from other cases.

Chance: It’s not gonna happen. I’m not even on duty right now.

Christine: Okay. Yeah, I don’t need to know how you’re gonna go about it, just tell me whatever I need to know, if anything comes up.

Chance: You’ll be the first.

Ashley: Must have been very strange and very confusing to hear me speaking so passionately and loudly about our love and our bond. I’m sorry about that. And I’m sorry that I can’t tell you what you want to hear.

Tucker: I see.

[ Tucker sighing ] So, we’re still in the friend zone then?

Ashley: Well, obviously we’re more than friends.

Tucker: How much more?

Ashley: Well, I’m attracted to you. What? Well… I like spending time with you.

Tucker: That’s sweet. Is there anything else?

Ashley: Every day, I trust you a little bit more. Every day, I feel like my heart is opening up a little bit wider. But as far as telling you, I love you the way a wife should tell her husband that she loves him, I– I– you’re asking too much of me.

Abby: My uncle jack was already in a sour mood when I got there, and then I asked to see my mom and he told me that she was out with tucker and that they have some big news to share.

Devon: What kind of big news?

Abby: I don’t know. Maybe it has something to do with this fake engagement. That would explain my uncle jack’s irritation.

Devon: Yeah, I still don’t know what to make of that. It’s weird.

Abby: I do, it’s insane. She’s clearly lost her mind.

Devon: I don’t know if I’d go that far. Your mom’s one of the sharpest people I know. But if she’s starting to trust tucker, maybe he’s giving her a reason to.

Abby: Or maybe he has her fooled. Look, I want to think that he is a changed man, that he’s evolved. Not only for our sake, but especially for our son’S.

Devon: But you’re worried if we let him in our life–

Abby: That he’s gonna disappoint us again. And when he skips town, like he always does, dominic is gonna lose his grandfather.

Devon: Right. No, I thought about that a lot too. And honestly, I don’t know if I believe his retirement story.

Abby: What do you mean?

Devon: I don’t think he can do it.

Abby: Well, I mean, he doesn’t have to work. He has enough money after selling mccall.

Devon: It’s not about the money. I don’t know if he’s able to actually live life without having action in it. I don’t know if he’s capable of that. Like hell, he could have some corporate scheme going on right now that we don’t see coming. And your mom’s the key to it. With moderate to severe plaque psoriasis,

Chance: I’m trying to make some progress today. If anything solid develops, we’ll talk.

Summer: What do you mean, by progress?

Chance: I’m turning over every stone. So, trust me.

Summer: Okay. So, I’ll just wait to hear from you.

Sharon: My heart really goes out to her. She and phyllis were so close. But what can I get for you?

Chance: I’ll just do the usual. Make it a large though.

Sharon: Sure. Um, but first, do I by any chance owe you a thank you?

Billy: This is perfect. I’ll sit over here by chels and then you two– you can put that away, huh. Thank you very much.

Daniel: Hey, hey, look who I found wandering the streets,

Chelsea: Lily, hi.

Lily: Hi, how are you?

Chelsea: I’m doing well. How are you?

Lily: I’m good. Got back from new york, but happy to be home. So, you don’t mind that I’m crashing your party, do you?

Billy: No, no, not at all. Happy for you to join.

Lily: Okay, good, ’cause I’m starving.

Chelsea: We’ll just get you another place setting.

Lily: Okay.

Billy: Yeah, that’ll be a lot of bodies around this table, but uh…

Daniel: Do you want to just push two of them together?

Billy: Yeah, let’s do that.

Johnny: Or we can have two separate tables, adults here, kids there.

Lucy: I love it.

Connor: Okay by me.

Billy: Okay then.

Lily: Okay, well, this is fun, right?

Abby: So this so-called engagement, you think it’s part of tucker’s plan?

Devon: I think that we should wait and see if they’re actually engaged because we’re just speculating at this point.

Abby: They live together. He’s already proposed. It doesn’t sound speculative to me.

Devon: I guess not.

Abby: So what if my mom accepts? Whether it’s to mess with diane or if it’s actually real. And then what? They get remarried and he’s in the perfect position to hurt her again?

Devon: I just– I– I don’t think she’s gonna let that happen, abby. And I thought that you were warming up to tucker after you guys danced together the other night.

Abby: I probably was. But hell, maybe that’s a part of this whole scheme. He’s charming. He gets you to let your guard down and that, that is when he strikes.

Devon: Right. Well, the only thing we’re gonna be able to do is wait and see what happens.

Abby: And wait, back to this whole retirement thing.

Devon: What?

Abby: I mean, you’re right, a guy like tucker, he doesn’t just sell his company and then walk away. What if he is gonna go after jabot again?

Devon: I mean, that sounds like something the old tucker would’ve done.

Abby: Exactly, yes. He has gone after jabot before and if that is what he is going after again, I am not gonna let that happen. I will crush him first.

Tucker: You really are my better angel, you know that?

Ashley: Please don’t go that far.

Tucker: No, I am going that far.

Ashley: Stop it.

Tucker: Don’T. I’m never gonna give up on you, on us, ever. I just wish that… I wish you could love me for who I am instead of what I could be.

Phyllis: Hey.

Summer: Oh, my goodness!

Phyllis: Baby girl, there you are.

[ Phyllis laughing ] My a1c was up here; now, it’s down with rybelsus.

Johnny: And they’re paying.

[ Kids laughing ]

Lily: Ooh, they have that parmesan crusted halibut that I like, I’m gonna get that.

Daniel: I am trying to decide between the steak frites and the paella.

Lily: Um, do the steak frites and then you can have your fries.

Daniel: Done. What about an appetizer? Should we, um, should we get an artichoke dip? Split it for the table?

Billy: I don’t know. What looks good?

Chelsea: Everything.

Billy: I know the feeling.

Lily: Oh, come on. You’re gonna get your favorite, the crab enchiladas.

Chelsea: That’s your favorite?

Billy: Yeah, it used to be.

Johnny: Okay. Three burgers, tots, onion rings, bucket.

Connor: Love it.

Lucy: Love it.

Chelsea: Oh, sorry. It took me so long to decide.

Lily: That’s okay.

Daniel: It’s fine.

Billy: So, how’s charlie in new york?

Lily: Um, he’s good. He’s really good.

Billy: That’s terrific.

Chelsea: Did you do any shopping while you were there?

Lily: I didn’T. I had meetings and, you know, hung out with charlie, so that’s it.

Billy: You see any shows?

Lily: No, it was a pretty quick, in-and-out trip.

Daniel: Well, that’s a shame. I heard they’re reviving sweeney todd. It’s always fun.

Lily: Oh, sounds fun.

Billy: Yeah. Maybe not for lily. She doesn’t like musicals much.

Lily: Well, I don’t know. I could make an exception for sondheim.

Daniel: Lady has taste.

[ Lily chuckling ]

Lucy: So lily gave me the lowdown on the way here, but I feel like I only got half the story.

Johnny: Okay. Well, um, so connor and I are brothers but our mom’s only raising him.

Lucy: And that’s chelsea?

Johnny: And I have a different mom who was married to billy, my dad, but then they got divorced. And now I live with her and my sister, katie.

Connor: His dad and lily were a couple, but now he’s dating my mom. Plus, I’m getting a new baby sister. My dad, adam, and his ex-girlfriend, sally, who’s now a couple with my uncle nick, which is messed up, but after a while, it’s like whatever.

Lucy: Most families I know are like this, all blended and mixed up. It’s kind of the way things are now.

Johnny: Facts.

Lucy: My bio mom was pretty messed up, so dad didn’t stay with her for too long, thank god. So, dad and heather raised me, but then they broke up and she and I live in portugal. So, I don’t get to see my dad all too often. See, we’re all kind of in this weird messed-up club.

Connor: That’s cool. So can you speak portuguese?

[ Lucy laughing ]

Chance: I’m not sure I understand. Uh, thank you for what?

Sharon: Well, I received this bottle of champagne. Um, kind of a cryptic note. No signature.

Chance: Oh, okay. That’s odd.

Sharon: Nick advised me to just get rid of it, but first I wanted to see if you had sent it, but it sounds like you did not.

Chance: No, I’m so sorry. I wish I could take credit for that. I’ll tell you though, once things cool down at work, I’ll send you five champagne bottles. We can toast with that, okay?

Sharon: I like that.

Chance: It is kind of creepy though, getting a gift anonymously like that. You want me to look into it? I am a detective.

Sharon: No, no, no, no, it’s, um, it’s fine. I’m sure it’s fine.

Chance: Okay. Well, I’ll tell you what, if anything else comes up that troubles you, you let me know and I’ll handle it. Right now though, I got to take off. I gotta follow up on this investigation.

Sharon: Understood. Um, don’t let me keep you. I’ll see you later?

Chance: Count on it.

Phyllis: Did anybody see you come up here?

Summer: No, I was very careful. Nobody followed me.

Phyllis: Okay.

Summer: How has nobody followed you?

Phyllis: Well, I mean, did you know it was me when I slipped the key card in your pocket?

Summer: When did you do that, by the way?

Phyllis: I followed you for blocks and then you stopped and you looked at those shoes in the window at memoirs. That’s when I did it.

Summer: I brought you food.

Phyllis: Oh, good.

Summer: I didn’t know if you had been hiding in an alley or eating out of a dumpster–

Phyllis: Eating out of a dumpster? My goodness, your mother is more resourceful than that. Plus, um, jeremy made sure that I was financially set up to– to go anywhere. You know, far away if I wanted.

Summer: Well, still… you know, mom, this is really risky. You being in genoa city like this with all the charges that you could be facing.

Phyllis: I know that. I can’t run. I can’t be away from you. I saw how much pain you were in. I can’t do that to you. Right. I mean, what kind of mother can leave her children?

Summer: It would be okay, you know. I really just want you to be safe, even if that meant that you had to disappear for a long time.

Phyllis: No, I’m not gonna do that. You know, you’re much more brave than I am. You know that? It killed me to be away from you and your brother. And let me tell you something, I will never ever abandon you two again.

Ashley: But for now, maybe we should just focus on our fake engagement. Yeah. I mean, I think we need to be convincing, right? Because clearly jack and diane are a little skeptical and I probably shouldn’t have blurted it out, but I got caught up in the moment. But now we have to prove that we’re serious and I have some thoughts.

Tucker: Such as?

Ashley: I think we should start some extravagant wedding planning, right? And talk about all of our plans ad nauseam in front of jack and diane, right? We can make little goo-goo eyes at each other and just, you know, do that whole thing.

Tucker: So what’s your definition of extravagant? Just so we’re on the same page.

Ashley: Want to get married in a castle? Right? That could be fun. We could just arrive in a horse-drawn carriage. You could be black tie, I’ll be in an elaborate wedding gown, some horrible gown. That’s it really. Because then we can also talk about our fantastic honeymoon. You want to go to copenhagen, the countryside, see the northern lights maybe?

Tucker: I wanna do anything you want to do. Really, I’m open to anything.

Ashley: You seem a little smug.

Tucker: No, I’m riveted.

Ashley: What are you riveted by?

Tucker: Riveted by you. You just put so much thought into it already. I know that you’re not– you’re not there in the, uh, in the love department yet. It just seems like there’s at least a part of you that wants it to be real.

Abby: I swear to god, if that man comes near my family’s company–

Devon: Babe, babe, don’t stress about something that hasn’t happened yet. I didn’t mean to get you all riled up about this. I really didn’T. Even though I love seeing your feisty side, along with all your other sides.

Abby: Nice try, but you’re not gonna flirt me out of worrying about my mother. If tucker is winning her over, if your instincts are correct, we have to do something to protect her, fast.

Devon: Okay. Well, I might just have a way to do that.

Summer: Mom, this feels so good. It’s so good to just catch up with you.

Phyllis: Yeah, it’s amazing.

[ Summer sighing ]

Summer: I have a lot that I need to tell you. It’s not good.

Phyllis: All right, let’s hear it.

[ Summer sighing ]

Summer: I told daniel the truth. I felt like I had to.

Phyllis: I know you did. I called him. I had to hear his voice.

Summer: He knew that that was you.

Phyllis: Yeah, he knew it was me. Um, he just kept on pleading with me not to be mad at you for telling him and, summer, how could I be mad at you? I put you in an impossible situation. But I needed to hear his voice. How is daniel? I miss him. I’m missing him. I just want to tell him I love him. That’s all.

Summer: I know, mom, but I guarantee you you’re not gonna like what he’s done.

Phyllis: Okay. What has he done?

Summer: You were right to be wary of confiding in him. He…

Phyllis: He told people I’m alive.

Summer: Yeah. He told jack, michael, kyle. Jack told christine. Christine told chance, diane knows, lucy knows. Mom, it’s out of control.

Phyllis: Christine and chance. Do they believe that I’m alive?

[ Chance kissing his teeth ]

Chelsea: With all the troubled kids and teens out there, a game like this seems like a natural fit.

Lily: Yeah. And I think we do a teen version at first, but then maybe have a module where there’s parental controls to make it for younger kids.

Billy: Well, all this shop talk has got me craving sugar. Who’s up for dessert?

Johnny: Imagine having an entire video game based on you. That is so cool.

Lucy: My dad was kind of in a slump, as an artist. So, I’m really glad he was able to pivot to this.

Johnny: My mom says pivot a lot.

Connor: So does mine. Is that something adults do? They just pivot all the time?

Johnny: Basically.

Lucy: For me, it was my boarding school teacher. It was pivot this, pivot that, all day long.

Johnny: Until your eyes glazed over.

Lucy: Totally.

Chelsea: Lucy is so charming. I’m sure it’s comforting having her here during such a difficult time.

Daniel: It’s always nice having her around, even without a death in the family.

Chelsea: Yeah. No, I– I– I imagine it would be.

Billy: Yeah, selfishly. I don’t like it when johnny and katie are far away, you know. It doesn’t feel right.

[ Kids laughing ]

Lily: Well, they seem to know what they’re doing. Maybe we should follow their lead?

Chelsea: Actually having fun?

Lily: Yeah, worth a try, right?

[ Kids laughing ]

Billy: Well, let’s get some dessert, huh? Nothing more fun than a slab of chocolate cake and four forks.

Daniel: I love cake, I’m in.

Lucy: My boarding school’s okay. I made some friends there, but for the most part, it’s kind of lame.

Connor: Mine had a gazillions of rules, who can remember them all?

Lucy: Did you get in trouble a lot?

Connor: Some, I was glad to come home.

Lucy: I’m sure.

Connor: Although, I got sent there because my parents needed me out the way.

Johnny: Same. They say it’s for continuity and stability. I mean, they’re not really wrong ’cause stuff at home can change every five minutes.

Lucy: You and katie went to boarding school too?

Johnny: Hasn’t everyone? But recently, my parents have been more interested in sending me to my grandparents’ house, so.

Connor: Mine too. I can always tell when they’re having issues based on how often I get dropped at the ranch.

Summer: That’s your only question? Mom, I thought that you were gonna be furious.

Phyllis: Well, I’m upset that daniel blabbed. Of course, I am, but what’s done is done. I mean, that’s why I didn’t tell daniel, by the way. Let me ask you something. Is there a full-blown manhunt for me?

Summer: Christine doesn’t believe that you’re actually alive.

Phyllis: Of course, she doesn’t because she’s overjoyed at the idea that I might be dead. Why look for me? I guess all the years of pain and hell that I put that bug through paid off.

Summer: But jack, kyle, and michael, they’re still determined to prove that you are alive.

Phyllis: Of course they are because for them, it’s not about me. It’s about her.

Summer: Yeah, if you’re alive then diane’s free.

[ Phyllis scoffing ] And what kind of milk?

Chelsea: It sounds like you were having fun.

Johnny: Oh, yeah, definitely.

Lucy: It was really great meeting you, johnny, connor.

Connor: You too. It was great.

Lily: We’ll have to do it again sometime.

Connor: That’d be awesome.

Chelsea: Sounds like a plan.

Johnny: Oh, can i have your phone so that we’ll have each other’s numbers?

Lucy: Yeah, totally.

Johnny: Great. Thank you. And it is done. Oh, we have to hang out while you’re still in town.

Billy: You ready to get going? School night, we should get back to mom. You, uh, you okay? You need a ride home.

Chelsea: Oh, thanks, but no, we’re good. It’s such a nice night, I think we’re gonna walk.

Billy: That sounds nice. Okay, I will talk to you later.

Lily: I have to meet devon at the lounge, but, um, thank you guys for letting me tag along.

Billy: Yeah, it was really nice to see you.

Johnny: Okay, we will be out front.

Lucy: Yeah. Good night everybody.

Lily: Good night.

Daniel: We’ll talk tomorrow.

Chelsea: Sounds like a plan.

Billy: See you later.

Chelsea: Okay, bye. Are you okay? It seemed like you were having fun. Did something happen?

Connor: It was fine. Can we go home now?

Billy: Nice to see you both.

Lily: Yeah, you too.

Daniel: This was a nice distraction.

Billy: I’m glad you have lily’s friendship, especially now during your time of loss. Okay. Good night.

Lily: Good night.

Daniel: Night.

Ashley: Well, clearly there’s a difference between fantasizing about a wedding and fantasizing about a wedding to you.

[ Tucker chuckling ]

Tucker: I see. So all these– these specific ideas you’ve envisioned, don’t include me standing next to you at the altar?

Ashley: I asked you to move in with me because I wanted things to work out. I think they’re kind of working out, don’t you? So it’s not outside the realm of possibility that the– the rest of it could work out.

Abby: So, what are you thinking? How do we get out in front of this?

Devon: I’m thinking that I simply get closer to tucker. And I build up our relationship because I know he’s been dying to have this father-son bond with me and maybe if we have it, he might slip and say something and I can figure out what’s really going on.

Abby: You would do that for me?

Devon: I’d do anything for you.

Abby: Hm. We really are family. You’re even worried about my mom.

Devon: She’s family, of course, I am. And I also, I’m worried about you. I don’t want to see you stressed like you’ve been. So, if there’s anything I can do to help, I’m gonna do it. And if it turns out that he is playing your mom or if he’s going after jabot, I can crush him and you won’t have to do anything.

Chance: Hey, it’s chancellor. Give me forensics. Hi, maggie, it’s chance. How you doing? Yeah. Good, good, good. I got a question for you. I know we can get fingerprints off of a paper, but what if the paper’s been sitting around in the garbage for a few weeks? Okay. Let me ask you something else. Can we get dna off of a tear stain? Really? Even if there’s mascara in it? Okay. I’ll see you in a bit.

Phyllis: Okay, so if the D.A. Doesn’t believe I’m alive, that buys me time.

Summer: Daniel did me one favor.

Phyllis: What’s that?

Summer: When he confessed everything, he kept my name out of it. He said that you contacted him, not me.

Phyllis: Oh, well, I’m sure that’s a relief for you because if your husband finds out that you’re protecting your own mother over his mother–

Summer: Yeah, I know, mom. I know. I know how bad that would be, but daniel, he’s boxed me in with another lie and he’s put you even more at risk.

Phyllis: Listen, that’s why I didn’t tell him. I knew what he would do. I’m not gonna hold it against him.

Summer: What are you saying?

Phyllis: Uh, I want to see daniel. I want to give him a hug. You know, I want to see my son.

Summer: Mom, if daniel knows where you are, he’s gonna go straight to the police. He has convinced himself that that is the only solution to any of this, so no, daniel doesn’t get to see you. Not until we know that you are gonna be just as free as diane

Phyllis: Summer.

Summer: No, mom! We are doing this my way. You have already made my life complicated enough, okay? Just please listen to me on this and stay away from daniel. Don’t fight me, please.
