Nikki: Victor, I’d like you to meet my new assistant, claire grace.

Claire: Mr. Newman, it’s an honor.

Victor: So, you’re the young lady I’ve heard so much about. My goodness. Welcome to the company.

Claire: Thank you, sir.

Victor: Uh, my wife speaks very highly of you. She rarely does that, you know.

Nikki: Now.

Victor: And you are aware of the importance of the job that you’re about to take on?

Claire: Very much so, sir. I am honored to be entrusted with the responsibility. And I plan to give miss newman my all.

Victor: I expect no less.

Claire: I know how lucky I am to be part of such an exciting young business like newman media. And to be given this opportunity to learn from the best. I couldn’t have hoped for better.

Sally: So, now that the financing is in place and I have a network of suppliers lined up, I think it is time to bring in some clients.

Nick: Right, clients.

Sally: You know, I think the key is to generate word of mouth and get some jobs under my belt before we bring in a marketing team. Get some photos out there, maybe some media content. People love before and afters. What do you think about hiring me to design your offices for your new company with sharon?

Nick: Hundred percent.

Sally: We could feature the empty space and then the concept stage and then the final product. Offer interviews for everyone and it’ll be really good for your company and mine.

Nick: Yep.

Sally: Should I go would you prefer hot pink?

Nick: Yes.

Sally: You’re not actually hearing any of the words I’m saying, are you?

Nick: What do you mean?

Sally: Have you been listening to anything I’ve said?

Nick: Yeah, you were, uh, talking about, um, something pink.

Sally: Nick.

Nick: You’re right. I’m sorry. I’m trying to concentrate, uh, but I can’t stop thinking about something else.

Sally: I bet I can guess. What happened between me and adam? You haven’t been the same since you found out about the kiss.

Adam: Nate.

Nate: Adam.

Adam: I, um, I was nearby. I was running those errands that you asked me to do and I thought I would stop in, give you a report. See if there’s anything else I can grab for you on the way back to the office.

Victoria: It seems like the sort of thing that could have been a text.

Nate: It’s okay. It’s okay. Let’s hear it, adam.

Adam: Uh, well, I, um, dropped off your shirts at the dry cleaner, uh, picked up your suit alterations at fenmore’S. I went ahead and confirmed tomorrow’s breakfast, and then the presentation binders for, uh, this afternoon’s team meeting, got those. And the research you asked for is gonna be on your desk by the end of the day.

Nate: Wow, you’ve accomplished quite a bit in one morning. I’m impressed.

Adam: Well, my sister’s obviously not.

Victoria: Bravo for doing your job.

Adam: Okay, yes, that is the spirit.

Victoria: And my question is why are you working so hard?

Adam: I mean, isn’t that the idea? Work hard, get the job done.

Nate: Which is what you seem to be doing.

Adam: And there’s something wrong with that?

Victoria: Uh, just a little suspicious, that’s all.

Adam: How so?

Victoria: It’s a clear sign that you’re up to something. – “Best thing I’ve ever done.”

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by… -you got this buddy.

-During an asthma attack,

Adam: Help me out, victoria. You know this is a double bind for me. If I slack off, I’m an ingrate who thinks this is beneath him. And if I work hard, I’m plotting.

Victoria: That’s about it. Yeah.

Adam: Do– do you know what my dream is?

Victoria: I have no clue. And I’m really not that interested.

Adam: That one day, you will accept what I say to you at face value.

Victoria: Well, I don’t imagine that that day is coming any time soon. You know what they say about dreams? You eventually wake up.

Adam: What do I have to do to convince you that this reformation is real?

Nate: We are both giving you the benefit of the doubt for now, adam.

Adam: Well, I hope that’s true and I hope it lasts. You know, I can do this swimming upstream if I have to, but a little faith and trust would make it a lot easier.

Victoria: And why exactly should it be easier?

Adam: Because this would be better for everybody. We would all benefit if this works out.

Nate: So far, so good.

Adam: Thank you.

Victoria: My jury’s still out.

Adam: Of course it is and I can’t wait for the verdict. Now, if you don’t have anything new for my to do list, I’m gonna head back to work. I’ll see you at the office.

Victoria: I thought that you and I were both immune to adam’s tricks. Please tell me that you’re not falling for his con.

Nick: Trying really hard to forget about that kiss and I hate seeming like I’m paranoid or that I’m dragging up old emotions for you.

Sally: You have no reason to be paranoid.

Nick: Yeah. You and adam, you’re just friends. Even if adam doesn’t believe it, but that’s what you told me.

Sally: And that’s what I meant.

Nick: Then, I believe you. But then you also told me that you were torn up inside and that your feelings were all over the place. And then you turned around and saw how upset I was. You said something to try and make me feel better.

Sally: What are you talking about?

Nick: Sally you went from, I’m not ready to be in love to I’m falling in love with you in no time flat.

Sally: Okay. That’s a bit of an exaggeration.

Nick: You can’t deny the shift was pretty quick. Because then you told me about the kiss and then, you know, you’re just trying to make me feel better.

Sally: Well, yeah, of course, I don’t want you to be upset. And I don’t want you questioning my wanting to be with you. And I also would not admit to feeling something if it wasn’t true.

Nick: Yeah, but the timing, it can’t be a coincidence.

Sally: What are you really saying?

Nick: You don’t see some cause and effect there?

Sally: Look, what difference does it make how I got to where I am or– or when? Me being open about my feelings is the important part.

Nick: Sally, it’s, I just need you to know that you can always be honest with me.

Sally: Of course, I know that, okay? And I am being honest. Yeah, I’m– my emotions are a little tangled up and that hasn’t changed. Adam got to me.

Nick: Which is exactly what he wanted.

Sally: Maybe.

Nick: Sally, come on.

Sally: Look, I don’t know that for sure.

Nick: How can you not know that?

Sally: Okay, look, I don’t care about his reasoning, okay? I care about us. I would really like to think that– that I’m always in control of my emotions and that I can handle anything that’s thrown at me and most of the time, that’s true. But adam, I mean, you know how he is.

Nick: Yeah, I do.

Sally: He’s relentless.

Nick: He always is.

Sally: And he knows what buttons to push.

Nick: Yeah. Every single one of them. Can I ask you something?

Sally: Of course.

Nick: Do you think adam would have been able to push all those buttons if there wasn’t some part of you that was still in love with him?

Nikki: You made a very good first impression on my husband and trust me, that is no easfe.

Claire: I hope I didn’t come across like a complete idiot. We studied newman enterprises in business school, so to meet the man in person was intimidating. I wrote a paper about a series of acquisitions he made in the late 90s, and now I just shook his hand.

Nikki: Well, I’m sure he would love to read your paper.

Claire: Maybe down the road, a long time from now. I hope I came off as a professional.

Nikki: Oh, you did just fine.

Audra: I’m sorry to interrupt, nikki, but I just got off a call with the podcast network we want to acquire.

Nikki: Where are we on the purchase price?

Audra: Still too far apart. You know, they’re holding to an outrageous figure. You know, I think they just fear they’ve boxed themselves in and are trying to save face.

Nikki: Well, let’s give them some more time. Or, claire. Your thoughts?

Claire: Me?

Nikki: Why not?

Claire: I– I don’t know any of the details, obviously, I’m so new.

Nikki: I’m sure you learned a lot about negotiations in your business training. So, what are your instincts?

Claire: Give them a way out. Let the fee stand, but recoup it in some other aspect of the deal. Something worthwhile to you. That way you’re happy and they feel like they’ve won.

Nikki: Very astute.

Claire: Thank you.

Audra: Yes, definitely interting approach, but I’m not sure what else they have that we want, for the price they’re asking.

Nikki: Well, we could tie it to the advertising platform. Bigger percentage for us.

Audra: That works.

Nikki: Great. So, are we good?

Audra: We are excellent.

Nikki: Terrific. Uh, if you need me to jump in, just let me know.

Audra: Thank you so much for your insight, claire. deliciously flavored at the turn of a dial, with zero sugar and zero calories. And cirkul has over 40 flavors, so your water can be as unique as you are. Try cirkul. Your water, your way. Now with even more flavors. Available at walmart or drinkcirkul.Com. We’re traveling all across america,

Nikki: I am not sure I want to go up against you in a negotiation.

Claire: Just some things I’ve studied. And my great-aunt always said I was a born negotiator. I had a very good success rate with getting later bedtime.

Nikki: Oh, really? I think I had that same young girl in my house.

Claire: Your daughter, victoria.

Nikki: Absolutely. She was always very strong-minded and it could be exhausting. Now, there are some things I want to make clear.

Claire: Uh, of course, mrs. Newman. I will take notes.

Nikki: Oh, you don’t have to do that. Uh, you can if you want to. It’s not necessary. First, I would like for you to call me nikki.

Claire: Okay. Done.

Nikki: And I am a demanding boss, as my husband alluded to, but I try to make my expectations known, so you will know exactly what I want from you. I am tough, but fair. And sometimes, it is imperative that I move on something very quickly. You might feel like I’m barking orders at you, but trust me, it’s nothing personal.

Claire: Of course, mrs.– Nikki. I think you’ll find I have a pretty thick skin. I’ve taught myself not to take criticism or brusqueness personally. Most things aren’t personal. They’re more about what the other person is going through than something you did.

Nikki: Hm. You’re a bit of an old soul, aren’t you?

Claire: I don’t know about that, but I did grow up in a very strict household, so I was taught to follow the rules. Do what you’re told. Behave appropriately.

Nikki: Oh, your great aunt laid down the law, did she?

Claire: I love my great aunt, but she didn’t always see eye to eye with all of my friend’s parents about what a young girl should be allowed to do.

Nikki: And you don’t have any siblings, is that right? I lost my parents at a fairly young age. Thank god for my older sister. Did you have anybody aside from your great aunt that you… I’m starting to sense that you prefer not to talk about the past.

Claire: I’d rather focus on the future.

Sally: I don’t love adam. That’s over. Just like your other loves are in the past, okay? So can we not? Because I would much rather talk about us and our future. Our relationship and the company that– that you’re helping me build and your belief in me that means everything. Look, adam and I are friends. We went through a horrible ordeal together. And so yeah, I guess I– I feel affection for him. As a friend. Empathy.

Nick: Losing ava bonded you.

Sally: Yeah, of course it did. And I think you would understand that because you went through the pain yourself. It doesn’t just leave you. But sharing that with one person doesn’t discount how you feel about someone else. I am falling in love with you. I wouldn’t lie about that. Can you please believe me?

Nate: Me tolerating adam isn’t the same as trusting him. I’m just as skeptical of his turnaround as you are.

Victoria: Really? Well, it didn’t seem like that a minute ago. You were praising at him like you were gonna hand him a trophy or something.

Nate: As opposed to what? Provoking him to be on his guard? That’s not gonna help us. Remember what you told me. We need to sit back, wait for adam to make a move that benefits him and damages the company. Lull him into a false sense of security. He won’t be able to help showing his hand. That’s when your father will finally be able to see that all adam’s talk about humbling himself and starting over is the bs we already know it to be.

Victoria: Okay. Well, I can start complimenting him and telling him that he’s doing a good job. He would see right through that.

Nate: Okay. That’s fine. Nothing overboard that he could clock, but we are on the same page about building adam’s confidence, right? To then knock him down when he shows his hand.

Victoria: Yes.

Nate: Then we have to let him think that we bought his act. That we firmly believe he is cool with being the world’s best assistant.

Victoria: All right. All right. I’ll– I’ll have a more positive attitude then.

Nate: Good.

Victoria: It’s not gonna be easy though.

Nate: I know.

Victoria: Because being nice to adam does not address the bigger issue.

Nate: Which is?

Victoria: My father. Ma, ma, ma-

Nate: Victoria, I thought you’d let that go and accepted the changes at newman. You said you’d go along with what your father wants.

Victoria: I said that I would go along with what my father wanted for now because it was the only feasible choice ’cause the only thing to do in the moment is to keep an eye on adam and wait for him to screw up.

Nate: That’s still the objective.

Victoria: I’m sorry. But you know what? It’s just harder than I thought it would be to wait this all out. I’m not a particularly patient person, nate.

Nate: You’re not? I had no idea.

Victoria: And to hear my father say that he was gonna whip us all into shape. I mean, that kind of paternalistic stance. Yeah, adam, sure, of course. And nicholas maybe, but me? I have been leading this company and I have been leading it well, so for him to include me in his– in his cleanup plan, it–

Nate: I know you’re hurt.

Victoria: No, I’m not hurt. I’m not. I’m insulted.

Nate: But taking it out on your father, saying he’s the problem–

Victoria: Is there anything that you can agree with me on? Is everything that I do wrong?

Nate: Victoria, look, let’s not turn this into an argument. I was simply pointing out that we agreed on a strategy. We said we’d sit back, see how things unfolded with your father at the helm and we’d watch adam very closely.

Victoria: Okay. Great, great, but that’s not working for me. I can’t just sit by and do nothing. It just makes me feel more isolated than I already am.

Nate: Isolated how?

Victoria: I– I had an entire company. My father threw me out of the ceo chair. Nicholas refuses to come back to newman to offer me his support and adam is worming his way back into people’s lives. I’m sorry, but I don’t believe that it’s genuine. And it’s just the first step in god knows what and you think my reaction is inappropriate for some reason. I feel like I’m out here on my own. I feel like no one’s on my side.

Nate: I did not say that. You have to know I support you 100%.

Victoria: Do you?

Nate: Of course. I said it before and I will say it again. I am only suggesting you keep the peace with your father because I believe it is the best way forward for you. I don’t want victor hurting you any more than he already has. I don’t want everything that you’ve accomplished at your family’s company to be undermined by adam. Can’t you see that I’m just trying to protect you?

Nick: Is it possible that you just think you’re in love with me or that you wish you were? Because you know it’s safe.

Sally: That’s not fair. Because my feelings for you are real and they’re huge and for you to just dismiss them like that–

Nick: I’m not trying to do that, okay? I just don’t want you to feel like you’re trapped. If you’re confused, I get it, all right? If you need some time, then please just take it.

Sally: Look, I never said that’s what I needed.

Nick: I absolutely hate it that adam is manipulating you. That he’s manipulating us. And it just proves yet again that all that talk from him about wanting to be a better person was just that. It’s just talk. It’s just adam. He’s always going to be him and it’s clearly affecting you.

Sally: It seems like you’re the one that he’s affecting because it’s not me. Not in any way that matters anyway.

Nick: Look, I can’t go through this again. I don’t want to.

Sally: What are you saying? If you’re taking an antidepressant

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue. At the home depot, you’ll find top-brand kitchen appliances

Nick: I guess what I’m saying is I can’t be in a relationship where both sides aren’t 100% committed. I’m all in sally and you gotta be too.

Sally: I am all in.

Nick: No, you’re not. Every instinct I have is telling me you’re not.

Sally: So what? It’s just my word against your instincts?

Nick: Yeah, pretty much.

[ Sally scoffing ] Look, I’ve been fighting this feeling for a long time that adam is the one you really want to be with and that’s never not going to be true. Even if we’re together, if adam’s with someone else, there is this pull between the two of you and it is always there. Yeah, I was in the middle of it for a while. It worked. We were happy. At least, I thought we were.

Sally: We were, we are.

Nick: But then all hell broke loose. You lost ava and I was fighting to save my daughter’s life and that means I couldn’t be there for you when you needed me most. But adam was. And after you got done blaming him for ava, it’s like the two of you were two broken pieces that got glued back together. And there wasn’t anything that was gonna tear you apart. Not even my love for you, sally, which is so obvious to me now.

Sally: But I choose you.

Nick: Do you? For how long? Are you just delaying the inevitable?

Sally: It’s like I’m– I’m saying the words and you’re not hearing them. Like you’re just listening to the version that you made up instead.

Nick: I think that kiss tapped into some emotional truth for you.

Sally: No, nick, you’re wrong.

Nick: Listen to me, I’m not wrong. You just refuse to see it right now. And until you do, I can’t be with you.

Victoria: I don’t need to be protected, nate.

Nate: Of course. That didn’t come out right. I am well aware that you are more than capable of handling whatever comes your way. I just meant that I’m here for you, okay? I’m your second in command, your partner, your sounding board. Whatever you need me to be. And a difference of opinion doesn’t make that any less true. Are we good? Look, I need to head back to the office for a conference call. Ride with me.

Victoria: No, you go ahead. I’ll see you later.

Nate: Okay. I’ll see you later.

Claire: I’ll take care of this right away.

Nikki: Excellent.

Audra: I am pleased to report that the tactic worked. Our negotiation with the podcast network is moving forward.

Nikki: Well done. And to you too, claire.

Claire: Oh, I just threw out a suggestion, audra made it work. And I’m sure it’s not anything you didn’t already know.

Audra: We all need a reminder sometimes.

Nikki: Well, I have a meeting with the finance team, so I will see you ladies later.

Claire: I hope you don’t think I crossed a line.

Audra: Of course not.

Claire: It’s just nikki asked me, so–

Audra: Claire, it’s fine. We’re te and I believe, uh, good ideas can come from anywhere. You know, if no one listened to me when I started, I wouldn’t be where I am. So, first day… how do you think it’s going?

Claire: This is my dream job. I just– I hope I can prove myself. Meet nikki’s expectations. And yours, of course.

Audra: Yeah, I’m sure you will. We’re all very happy to have you here.

Claire: Thank you. That means a lot. Just keep up the good work. I think this will be a very exciting time for all of us.

Adam: Pops.

Victor: Hey, son.

Adam: How’s your day going so far?

Victor: Yeah, all right. Are you comfortable in your new job?

Adam: Uh, not by a long shot. I’m not used to being someone’s assistant, obviously. But you did give me the bottom of the ladder because I asked for it, so I’m working hard trying to anticipate nate’s every move.

Victor: You know, I gotta be honest with you. I– I didn’t think you could pull it off.

Adam: Well, how you like me now?

Victor: Well–

Adam: Am I passing your test?

Victor: That’s too soon to judge, you know. Give it a little time.

Adam: Yeah, I guess it is early days for that. I will say, it is an interesting exercise though. Being on the, uh, background doing the grunt work. It’s a lesson on how to treat my own assistant if I climb up the ladder again.

Victor: Anything specific?

Adam: Well, how about this? I’ll have my dry cleaning delivered instead of telling my assistant to pick it up.

Victor: Well now, that’s a hell of a lesson to have learned, okay?

Adam: Yeah, like you said though, it’s a little too early to tell if I’m gonna make it to the other side of this.

Victor: Definitely.

Adam: There’s still time for me to fail. Start lashing out again.

Victor: Son, I just hope that you won’t, you know, indulge in your slash-and-burn habits again. I mean, I’d be very disappointed to know that I’d wasted my time. Some luxury creams just sit on top of skin.

Claire: Oh, audra. Is there anything I can do for you while I’m waiting for nikki to come back?

Audra: Oh, no thanks. I’m fine for now.

Claire: All right. Well, I’ll be at my desk. Don’t hesitate to let me know if you think of something.

Audra: Of course.

Nate: Adam, there you are. Hello, victor.

Victor: Hey, nate. You need something?

Nate: I do. Uh, my assistant. I’d like you to sit in on a conference call.

Adam: Well, you got it, boss.

Victor: Well, all right. And nicholas do a good job.

Adam: That’s funny.

Victor: What?

Adam: Is that a joke? Now that I’m falling in line, just like my brother.

Victor: What are you talking about? You have a good day, guys.

Victoria: Well, let’s see. He set up nick and sharon and adam with their own business, and then he changed the rules on them before they even had a chance to get it off the ground. He let adam’s blackmail scheme go unpunished and then later, he fired him. And then, he went forward with the merger plan that he told adam was a no-go two weeks earlier. He offered sally this great job at a new division at newman enterprises and then he ripped the rug out from underneath her five minutes later.

Nikki: Okay. You know what I think? I think that you are taking some of your father’s decisions out of context. It is his company. He’s allowed to change his mind and do whatever he wants to with it.

Victoria: Of course, but he’s doing it so erratically. Can you not see that? There’s no rhyme, no reason to some of the choices that he’s made. No sound business sense whatsoever. It’s like these decisions are more about him flexing his corporate muscle just to show that he can. And putting people in their place, sometimes just to be vindictive. I’m saying that our father’s behavior is not normal. I mean, you– you’ve even agreed with me. You said that he’s not acting like himself. He’s usually so strong and decisive, not all of this back and forth and constantly changing his mind. And yes, I’m sure adam is partly to blame. When isn’t he? But there’s more to it.

Nick: Are you really that concerned with dad’s decision-making right now? Or are you just using this as an excuse to get your job back?

Victoria: Really, nick? Really? Do you think that I would use my concern for our father as some sort of a power play? Have you forgotten about his past medical issues? I mean, yeah, sure, he can– he can pound on a punching bag all day long, but this is about more than just his physical strength. This is about his mind too.

Nick: Look, whether your concern for dad is genuine or not, dad’s gonna see it as sour grapes. It’s the way it’s gonna be. He’s gonna see this as some ploy to get your job back. Can you imagine the fury that is going to rain down upon you if you ever suggest to our father he’s incapable of running the company that he built?

Victoria: Then what should I do about it?

Nick: You need to let mom deal with it, right? And just accept the fact that you’re not in the top spot right now. And be cool to him. Keep that father-daughter peace if you ever hope to get your position back someday.

[ Victoria exhaling ]

Victoria: Oh, hey.

Nick: Hey.

Victoria: Um, do you have a– a few minutes?

Nick: Sure. Everything okay?

Victoria: I was just wondering if you have had any time to spend with dad since we last talked.

Nick: No. Why do you ask?

Victoria: Well, I was hoping that you finally had the chance to notice what’s really obvious to me, that dad is just off his game.

Nick: Look, vic, I’ve told you. You’re imagining things that simply aren’t there. Dad came back to newman and he took your job.

Victoria: No, you’re wrong. He’s not himself.

Nick: You’re just bitter, vic.

Victoria: No, I’m not. I’m– I’m on an island. I’m alone. I– I– I feel like I’m isolated in an office full of people. Some of whom are my own family, one of whom I’m dating.

Nick: What do you mean by that?

Victoria: Look, um, nate and I just aren’t seeing eye to eye right now. He agrees with you that I shouldn’t be concerned with dad. And mom has gone off to newman media. She was my right hand. I mean, I miss working with her very much. One brother has left me in the lurch and the other’s just– you’re right, okay? You’re right. What dad did hurt, but that doesn’t mean that I’m imagining that dad is not the leader that he used to be.

Nick: Okay. Uh, what can I do?

Victoria: Reconsider. Come back to newman.

Nick: Vic, come on.

Victoria: Is working with sharon really that much better than working with me?

Nick: All right. That’s not fair and you know it.

Victoria: Okay. Well, then what are you doing? Are you trying to prove a point to dad and to all of us that you can walk away from newman whenever you want? I mean, if that’s all this is, then I think you’ve made that point already. Please, nicholas, I need you. I don’t trust adam, obviously. And I’m– I really am scared for our father. Would you please come back home?

Remember

the things you loved…

Adam: Well, that was weird.

Nate: Has that ever happened before? I know that parents with multiple children sometimes say one name when they mean another, but–

Adam: He’s never called me anything but adam. Or “my boy” or “son.” Or some kind of derogatory term I’m probably blocking out, but he has never called me nicholas before.

Nate: So, he was distracted and got mixed up. Victoria thinks stress–

Adam: No, he wasn’t mixed up. I mean, come on victor newman.Th was some kind of dig.

Nate: Or just a slip of the tongue. We all do it.

Nikki: What was a slip of the tongue?

Adam: Victor, he just, uh, confused me with nick.

Nick: Look, vic, I am always in your corner, all right? You can count on me, no matter what. I hope you know that. But it’s gonna have to be from outside newman towers.

Victoria: Okay. Will you at least think about it? Even if the c-suite is a no-go, I understand. But will you at least spend some time with dad so you can see what I’m talking about? I’m genuinely worried about him, nick.

Nick: All right, I’ll check it out. I’ll do what I can.

Victoria: All right. Thank you.

Nick: I love you.

Victoria: I love you too.

Nick: Listen to me. I’m not wrong. You just refuse to see it right now. And until you do, I can’t be with you.

[ Sally sighing ]

[ Phone chiming ]

Nikki: Is everything all right, darling?

Victor: Hi, sweetheart. Why do you ask?

Nikki: Well, I ran into adam outside and he said that you called him by the wrong name.

Victor: Yeah, I called him nicholas.

Nikki: So, you knew you did it?

Victor: Yeah, it was intentional.

Nikki: Intentional? Why on earth would you do such a thing?

[ Kyle groaning ] Oh, damn it.

Audra: Morning, sleepy head.

Kyle: Morning. Why’d you let me sleep so late?

Audra: You looked so peaceful. I didn’t wanna disturb you.

Kyle: I was out like a rock. I haven’t slept that well in a while.

Audra: Oh. Well, maybe you should stay over more often.

Kyle: Oh. Um, I’ve never done that before, have I?

Audra: First time for everything.

Kyle: Glad to see you first thing in the morning.

Audra: Yeah. It’s a– it’s a nice change of pace.

Kyle: Yeah. Happy we reconnected?

Audra: Definitely.

Kyle: But, it’s not great I wasn’t home when my son woke up. He’s had enough disruption. He needs to know I’ll always be there.

Audra: You live with your entire family. You know, it’s a house full of people. I’m sure he’s fine.

Kyle: I hope so.

Audra: Hey, now you have your own life too, okay? It happens. It’s not the end of the world.

Lily: Hey, you okay? You seem a little off this morning.

Daniel: Yeah. Just a little on edge.

Lily: Let me guess. Your mom?

Daniel: Mm-hmm. Today’s a big day. She officially starts work at omegasphere.

Lily: Well, are you worried? ‘Cause I mean, you’re the one who hired her.

Daniel: I know. I know.

[ Daniel laughing ] Trust me, I want things to work out for her, but with my mother, you just never know how things are gonna play out.

Lily: Well, remember, your intentions were good, right? You’re giving her a fresh start. Something to focus on.

Daniel: Best laid plans.

Lily: Yeah. True. I was just being optimistic for your sake.

Daniel: Well, I’ll give you points for optimism, but I’m pretty sure that skepticism is warranted here.

Lily: Do you still feel like you can’t trust her?

Daniel: I don’t know. I know that she wants to be this honest and sincere person that summer and I can rely on, but… you know, at the end of the day, she’s still phyllis summers, so anything can happen.

Diane: Is it too soon to start planning our next wedding reception?

Jack: I don’t know. Do you think people will find it over the top for us to be married three times in as many months?

Diane: Do we care?

Jack: It’s a good point.

Diane: [ Laughing ] No, we should probably be patient. Maybe we can have a big party for our one year anniversary. How does that sound?

Jack: I’m not sure I can wait that long. We may have to just celebrate our love on our own every hour of every day.

Diane: Mm. You’re such a romantic. What’s up?

Jack: I– I thought I’d hear from phyllis by now.

Diane: After you asked her to help us figure out what tucker’s up to.

Jack: Well, right now she appears to be our best bet.

Diane: Yeah. Well, I thought we were gonna stop worrying about tucker until we have definitive proof that he’s up to something. That his peace offering is a smokescreen.

Jack: Well, that’s how we keep from worrying. We remain vigilant and proactive and we collect as much information as we can just in case.

Diane: Sounds an awful lot like worrying.

Jack: Tucker is a risk taker. That means he’s gonna do everything he has to to get what he wants.

Diane: I know. Agreed. But we don’t even know what, if anything, he does want. Is he coming after jabot? Does he– does he want revenge on the family or neither of the above?

Jack: Well, I would like to be sure of that. And I’m hoping phyllis decides to do the right thing and help us out.

Diane: That’s a lot to expect from the woman who sent me to jail.

Jack: She claims she wants to make amends.

Diane: [ Laughing ] That’s lovely. That’s a lovely sentiment. Clearly, I believe in second chances, but we’re talking about phyllis. And you and I both know that the only side she’s ever really on is her own.

Tucker: Oh, phyllis, phyllis, phyllis. Will you ever learn?

Phyllis: Oh, my goodness. Wow. Wow.

Danny: Phyllis?

Phyllis: Hey, danny.

Danny: Everything okay? You didn’t live this strong,

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Devon: Here it is. Boy loves to just run around this park, doesn’t he?

Abby: He sure does. And mommy loves when he falls asleep because he’s so worn out.

Devon: Aw! That’s why mommy doesn’t wanna play another game of hot potato.

Abby: No, no, no, no. Mommy wants some time with daddy. Like a date night.

Devon: Ooh.

Abby: Yeah. I loved going to the wedding with you. Getting all dressed up and spending time together.

Devon: I love getting dressed up with you too. You looked beautiful that night.

Abby: Thank you.

Devon: Beautiful right now.

Abby: Mm.

Devon: We got lucky nothing crazy happened that day.

Abby: Yeah. You know, as much as I want my mom to be here and be in town, I think it’s best that she wasn’t here for the wedding. Yeah. I know that she smoothed things over with my uncle jack, but I think seeing diane that happy, her head might’ve exploded.

Devon: How is she doing?

Abby: She’s good. She’s good. You know, she’s in paris. She’s working remotely for jabot. Yeah, but she even admitted that it’s best that she wasn’t there for the party.

Devon: That’s good that she knows her limits.

Abby: Yeah. But I do think that she’s softened a bit towards diane since diane saved her life.

Devon: Do you think that’s gonna last?

Abby: I don’t know. I’m not sure. She’s been through so much lately. I think she’s just trying to regain her footing and I know that she’s really nervous about coming home.

Devon: ‘Cause of tucker.

Abby: Yeah. She doesn’t wanna stir him up again.

Devon: Yeah. Yeah. I don’t really know how he would react if they came face to face. ‘Cause he claims that he’s over her, but I don’t know.

Abby: I think they both hurt each other a lot and now, those wounds are not even close to healing.

Devon: They just seemed so happy together, you know?

Abby: Yeah.

Devon: And tucker was such a better version of himself when he was with her. I hate to think that that part of him is just gone.

Abby: Yeah. I did tell my mom about tucker’s gift to my uncle jack and diane.

Devon: Yeah.

Abby: That bonsai tree. How it was supposed to be a gesture of peace and harmony.

Devon: It was very tucker.

Abby: Yeah. And then I told her how he told uncle jack that he overreacted when he came back from paris, and that any sort of revenge he was plotting was just done and over.

Devon: Well, did your mom buy that though?

Abby: She wasn’t sure. She admitted that when it comes to tucker, she doesn’t know what to think anymore.

Phyllis: Hey, danny. Good to see you.

Danny: Yeah, you too. So, uh, what are you up to?

Phyllis: I was just doing a little research. A little research. Um, my first day working at omegasphere for daniel.

[ Phyllis chuckling ]

Danny: That is great. I’m so glad you’re seeing this through.

Phyllis: Well, you know, he gave me a great opportunity. I’m thrilled to take it.

Danny: Well, he has faith in you. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have offered you the position.

Phyllis: Yeah, that’s right. I just wanna prove myself, you know, to my kids, to daniel and summer.

Danny: And I believe you will.

Phyllis: I wanted to extend some gratitude to you as well.

Danny: Uh, me? I’m sorry. What did I do?

Phyllis: Well, that conversation we had yesterday.

Danny: Oh.

Phyllis: Yeah. You really helped me. You really helped me change my perspective on things.

Danny: Wow. I didn’t realize I had that effect on you.

Phyllis: [ Laughing ] You do. Thank you for believing in me after everything I’ve done. All of our history.

Danny: I think that we’ve gotten past our history.

[ Phyllis laughing ]

Phyllis: Really? I mean, ’cause people say that, but you know, then there is history sometimes it’s hard to get past.

Danny: We’re good, phyllis. I hear you when you say you wanna change. I do.

Phyllis: Thank you. ‘Cause I do wanna change. I really do.

Danny: And seeing you take the initiative to wanna be a better person makes me believe that you’re sincere and I imagine daniel feels the same way.

Phyllis: Yeah. I just wanna do right by my kids.

Danny: Not saying that it won’t be challenging. You know, the straight and narrow path, it’s a delicate one. But you can do anything you want when you’re determined. You’re that kinda person.

Jack: Oh, I got a response.

Diane: What did she say?

Jack: Phyllis has something on tucker.

Diane: Already? What is it?

Jack: No details.

Diane: So, it could be nothing.

Jack: Or it could be something. She’s just being careful. Wouldn’t it be something if phyllis is the one who came through for us?

Diane: Well, good for her if she has.

Jack: Well, I gotta meet her at crimson lights. Hopefully, she will have some inkling as to what tucker is really up to.

Diane: Or maybe she just wants you to believe that she’s willing to help you.

Jack: Hey, are you uncomfortable with my doing this with phyllis? I haven’t asked.

Diane: Of course, I am. Why would I trust her intentions? Jack, I just– I just don’t want her to hurt us.

Jack: She can’T.

Diane: Phyllis is tenacious. I’m sure she wants your forgiveness. Likes your attention. She likes to pull people over to her side, no matter what the cost.

Jack: Listen– listen to me. It’s one meeting. I’m keeping my eyes wide open. I am going in with a glass is half-full approach. Look, if she’s sincere about wanting to make amends, this is a good step in that direction.

Diane: Then, I’ll just cross my fingers.

Jack: I’ll see you at the office.

Diane: Okay. Some luxury creams just sit on top of skin.

Abby: Well, I also told my mom about your suspicion that tucker’s behind mamie’s return to town and her investment in chancellor-winters.

Devon: Oh, yeah. That seems like a pretty convenient coincidence if you ask me. But then tucker claims that there’s nothing to it.

Abby: Well, my mom was not surprised. She said that anything is possible when it comes to tucker. And well, especially now that he doesn’t have her to keep him in line.

Devon: Sure doesn’T.

Abby: Do you think that he’s telling the truth? I mean, should we give him the benefit of the doubt?

Devon: I don’t know. I– I honestly don’t know what to believe anymore ’cause he can deny it all he wants, but I know that I felt the vibe between him and mamie at the abbott house. He was standing right there. It was like they had been in contact before.

Abby: Okay, but would mamie really get involved with someone like tucker? It seems unlikely. And mamie loves my mom and uncle jack and traci like they’re her own. And would she really want to be involved with someone who would hurt one of them?

Devon: I wouldn’t think that she’d do something like that. No, but at the same time, she’s been extremely secretive about this whole investment.

Abby: I don’t know. Maybe she’s telling the truth. I mean, maybe she really just wants to be a part of the family company and she wants to get closer to you and lily.

Devon: I hope so. I do. But I also agree with your mom. Anything is possible when it comes to tucker.

Abby: Well, how do you wanna proceed with your father?

Devon: That’s a great question. I would like to think the best of him and to give him a chance, but it is getting harder and harder to do that.

Lily: Well, listen, I really hope that things work out with phyllis at omegasphere and that she behaves herself.

Daniel: Hm. Works hard? Yes. Behaves?

Lily: [ Laughing ] Well, she knows how amazing you are. Maybe she’ll go easy on you.

Daniel: Oh, yes. My greatness, no matter how well known across the land, has unfortunately never stopped her before. I– I just, you know, I keep telling myself that I gotta be optimistic.

Lily: Cautiously optimistic.

Daniel: Correct. What about you? Did you ever find out what’s going on with mamie? Did you figure out why she made that investment in– in chancellor-winters?

Lily: Uh, no. Not yet. But I really hope it’s as simple as she’s saying and that she just wants to spend time with family.

Daniel: Well, you and devon don’t need any more business chaos.

Lily: No. And jill will have a lot of opinions on the subject, so I’m just trying not to fixate on it.

Daniel: It’s good to, um, to be hopeful though. You know, it doesn’t hurt.

Lily: Yep. Good reminder for both of us. Anyway, I have to go. But, um, what are you doing for lunch later?

Daniel: Spending it with you, if I’m lucky.

Lily: Okay. Sounds good. I’ll see you later then.

Daniel: Yeah. Well, I look forward to it.

[ Lily laughing ]

Lily: Okay, you know, if I’m late, it’s your fault.

Daniel: What? Totally worth it.

Lily: I have to go. Okay. I have to go. Bye-bye.

Daniel: Bye.

[ Phone chiming ]

Danny: Hey, listen. Um, I just heard from daniel this morning that heather’s back in town.

Phyllis: Oh, interesting. She’s back in town.

Danny: Yeah.

Phyllis: She left suddenly to portugal. I’m so excited to see lucy. She is so special.

Danny: Well, actually heather’s here alone. Lucy stayed in lisbon with paul and christine. Yeah.

Phyllis: Wow. If that bug says one negative thing about me to my granddaughter–

Danny: Uh, you can use her name, you know. And christine’s not gonna say anything to lucy. Come on. You know her better than that.

Phyllis: Do I?

Danny: You don’t have to like her, but you two are good people, okay? When it comes right down to it.

Phyllis: Oh, wait a second.

[ Chuckling ] Wait a second. Wait, does christine still hold a special place in your heart, even now?

Danny: Of course, she does. As do you. We are all part of the past together. The good and the bad.

Phyllis: Wait a second. I– I thought you said you were with somebody new. That’s what you said around the holidays, that you were with someone new.

Danny: Yeah, I– I did, but that, um, yeah, that didn’t work out.

Phyllis: Are– are you– are you holding out hope that you could be with christine if she doesn’t work things out with paul? What?

Danny: I see you haven’t lost your inherent ability to find drama everywhere.

Phyllis: I– I’m not being dramatic. I’m just asking a question. It’s no big deal.

Danny: Sure.

Phyllis: Are you interested in the bug?

Danny: I want her to be happy. As I want you to be happy.

Phyllis: Oh, my god. Uh, that’s vague. I can’t– wow. I can’t believe this is happening.

Danny: Look–

Phyllis: [ Laughing ] No.

Danny: Hey, hey. Listen, whatever happens, I want us to move forward, okay? Let’s see what happens in the– the next chapter of each one of our lives together. Free from the past.

Phyllis: Right. I’m on board.

[ Daniel sighing ] 1 down, 9 to go.

Kyle: Hey, mom.

Diane: Kyle!

Kyle: Have you seen harrison this morning?

Diane: Uh, yes. I helped him get dressed. He had breakfast and then linda took him to school. He was, um, he was asking about you. He wondered where his daddy was.

Kyle: Damn it. I set my alarm and I slept right through it. I raced home as fast as I could when I woke up.

Diane: Where’d you spend the night?

Kyle: Um, I went out with a friend after the reception. I crashed at their place.

Diane: Oh, I see.

Kyle: Anyway, thank you for looking after harrison. I’m gonna head upstairs and shower.

Diane: Uh, kyle. Look, I know you’ve been having a hard time lately, but this– this isn’t like you. You don’t just neglect your son.

Kyle: Oh, it was just one mistake, mom. I’ll make it up to harrison, but please don’t make me feel worse than I already do.

Diane: All right. Well, let’s not talk about just this morning. I’m– I’m talking about the big picture.

Kyle: Please just stop. You’re blowing this outta proportion.

Diane: No, I’m not. Look, I– I– I get it that you’re struggling to figure things out. Your marriage ended, your career is in flux. Honey, no one would blame you for being off balance. Please, just– just talk to me. Let me help.

Lily: Oh, my god. He is so cute. He’s getting so big.

Devon: I know.

Lily: You have a little man. Like a little man.

Devon: That’s my man.

Lily: Aw. I love that he fell asleep with his little race car in his hand. That’s so cute.

Abby: The red one is his favorite. Like, he puts it under his pillow at night so they can sleep together.

Lily: Oh, my god. It’s like it’s cuteness overload. I don’t know how you guys do it.

Devon: Well, he is lucky to have his aunt lily to dote over him constantly.

Lily: Yeah. That’s my job. I take it very seriously.

[ Lily laughing ] Oh, by the way, I talked to jill.

Devon: Oh, yeah? Didn’t she head out this morning?

Lily: Yeah. She’s going to detroit to look into lbb and aunt mamie.

Devon: Oh, boy.

Lily: Mm-hmm. She’s convinced that there’s more to mamie’s investment than what she’s claiming.

Devon: We were just talking about that.

Lily: Yeah. But, um, what do you think? Do you think mamie might have a connection to tucker?

Phyllis: Well, danny, thank you for your support.

Danny: Always.

Phyllis: I’m gonna go. I don’t wanna be late. It’s my first day at omegasphere, so.

Danny: Hey, phyllis, best of luck today. I’m gonna be rooting for you.

Phyllis: Thank you. It means a lot. Talk to you later.

Danny: Knock ’em dead.

[ Phyllis laughing ]

Phyllis: [ Sighing ] Can I, uh, have a refill and take it to go?

Tucker: You’ve been a busy woman.

Phyllis: What does that mean?

Tucker: I think you know. Putting your skills to work on a new venture, perhaps helping jack turn the tables on me.

Phyllis: Hm. Why would you say that?

Tucker: You should know by now, phyllis. I have eyes and ears all over this town. At humana, we believe your healthcare should evolve with you, and part of that evolution means choosing the right medicare plan for you. Humana can help. Hi, my name is sam davis and I’m going to tell you about medicare advantage prescription drug plans that can provide more coverage than original medicare, including prescription drug coverage, all wrapped up into one convenient plan. With original medicare you’re covered for hospital stays and doctor office visits, but you have to meet a deductible for each. And then you’re still responsible for 20% of the cost. Next, let’s look at medicare supplement plans. If a service is covered under original medicare, then a medicare supplement plan pays for some or all of your medicare deductibles and the 20% coinsurance. But they may have higher monthly premiums and no prescription drug coverage. Humana medicare advantage prescription drug plans include medical coverage, plus prescription drug coverage. As well as dental coverage that includes two free cleanings a year, plus a yearly exam. Vision coverage includes vision exams and a yearly allowance toward eyewear such as lenses or contacts. And hearing benefits include routine hearing exams and coverage toward hearing aids. You’re covered for preventive services like annual mammograms and prostate exams. There’s a zero-dollar copay for routine vaccines and telehealth visits. And you get worldwide coverage for emergencies when you travel. You get all of this in one convenient plan. Plus, there’s a cap on your out-of-pocket costs! So, call or go online today to see if there’s a humana plan in your area, to find out if your doctor is in one of our networks, and to get our free decision guide. There’s no obligation, just good information. Humana – a more human way to healthcare.

When the murrays discovered

gain scent beads,

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue. E, mom, you don’t have

Kyle: I have told you before, mom, you don’t have to worry about me. I am fine.

Diane: Kyle, you’re my son and I love you and you just haven’t seemed like yourself lately, so yes, I am worried about you.

Kyle: You shouldn’t be ’cause I’m okay. Moving on.

Diane: I saw a glimpse of the kyle I know at the reception yesterday when you so beautifully officiated for your father and me as we renewed our vows.

Kyle: I was glad I could be there this time to see you both looking so happy.

Diane: You were the old kyle. You were confident, you were centered and you and summer seem to be getting along. And it looks like the two of you have found a balance.

Kyle: Yeah, we have. Things between us have leveled off.

Diane: Mm-hmm. And then audra showed up and I could literally see the change in your demeanor. It’s like you became a different person.

Kyle: Yes, mom. I know how you feel about audra.

Diane: Look, I can’t tell you what to do, but I can only hope that the friend you referred to, the one whose place you stayed at last night wasn’t her.

Kyle: You don’t need to be concerned about that. And I’m not struggling to find a new path. I am very clear about that now. I know what I want.

Diane: What is that?

Kyle: I want my old job back as co-ceo of jabot. I’m going to replace billy and I’m convinced that will happen.

Devon: I actually witnessed a moment between tucker and aunt mamie at jack and diane’s wedding reception.

Lily: What do you mean “a moment?”

Devon: She walked in the room and they looked at each other like they had been in communication or in contact before. I don’t know how else to describe it.

Lily: Well, did you ask them about it?

Devon: I didn’t bring it up to mamie, but I asked tucker about it and he said that there’s nothing to it.

Lily: But you don’t believe that’s true?

Devon: Not really. Not when he’s tied to so much drama these days. He’s got what happened with your mom in paris. Jack and billy think that he’s going after jabot. And now he might be tied to this chancellor-winters investor.

Abby: And I tend to believe my family’s assessment of tucker. That he’s bad news. I know it’s just a hypothetical and we don’t have all the facts.

Devon: And since he’s come to town, he’s claimed to wanna do right by me as a father and be a grandfather to dominic.

Abby: And he has been, for the most part.

Lily: Yeah. But there’s always the possibility that he’s doing something underhanded.

Devon: Yeah. And that’s the problem. He’s like a damn magnet to trouble. And it’s just been one thing after another since he’s come back to town.

Abby: He just doesn’t know when to stop.

Devon: Well, maybe I need to know when to stop and sever ties with him. Just make a clean break all together.

Phyllis: Hi, jack. Have a great day, jack.

Tucker: Hey, jack. Did you and diane get a chance to open my present?

Jack: We did.

Tucker: I hope you liked it.

Jack: A bonsai tree would be a thoughtful gesture if it were sincere.

Tucker: Do you know the significance of a bonsai tree?

Jack: As a matter of fact, I do. Just having a hard time with trusting that you’re wishing us harmony and balance and…

Tucker: Patience.

Jack: Patience.

Tucker: Well, at least you read the card. A lot of people chuck the card and just go straight for the goods.

Jack: As I said to my brother, billy, I think this gesture was all smoke and mirrors. Did you really think diane and I were that gullible?

Tucker: So much for second chances.

Jack: Oh, I think you’ve had enough second and third chances for a lifetime. We don’t for one minute buy your truce.

Tucker: I– I guess I just don’t understand why. At this point, you have no reason to doubt me.

Jack: Let’s just stop being coy. We know what you put phyllis up to.

Tucker: Phyllis? Why would I involve myself with phyllis?

Jack: For her technical savvy. You had her hack into one of jabot’s accounts, transfer the funds to billy’s account, his personal account, so it looked like he was the one responsible for the breach.

Tucker: Sounds fascinating and elaborate.

Jack: I just want you to know it didn’t work. We are onto you. That money has now been returned to jabot.

Tucker: That’s good news, but it had nothing to do with me or any plan I had.

Jack: The next time you think of doing something against jabot, I suggest you think twice.

Tucker: You’re not gonna order any coffee?

Jack: Seeing you soured me on the idea.

Looking for a bladder leak pad

that keeps you dry?

Phyllis: Hey. So, were you followed?

Jack: No. I thought tucker would do just that, so I took him on a wild goose chase. I lost him.

Phyllis: Great. Great.

Jack: What is this about?

Phyllis: Um… I hacked into tucker’s computer like you wanted me to.

Jack: And?

Phyllis: And I found out that he recently purchased a listening device with an accompanying phone app. So, um, it’s very interesting, uh, when I saw him at the coffee house, he said he had eyes and ears all over genoa city.

Jack: It’s all starting to make sense. Thank you. I appreciate the help.

Phyllis: Oh, that was a honest thank you. Did that hurt?

Jack: Not as much as I thought.

Phyllis: So, we’re square?

Jack: No, we’re on our way.

Phyllis: Well, what’s left?

Jack: Well, it might help if you admit that you did in fact help tucker hack into jabot.

Phyllis: I did not do that.

Jack: You can just say it, phyllis.

Phyllis: I had nothing to do with that.

Jack: It’s me. I still know when you are lying. You know that, right?

Phyllis: You asked me to do you a favor. You said that it would help me redeem myself.

Jack: Yeah.

Phyllis: But– but I did what you asked. Are you going back on your word?

Jack: No. This is just one step. You and I are not on solid ground.

Phyllis: Okay. Well, I think we’ll get there. You know better than to underestimate me.

Jack: Thank you again.

Phyllis: Hey, what are you doing here?

Danny: So, uh, what are you up to, phyllis?

Lily: Devon, are you serious?

Abby: You really wanna give up on your father?

Devon: No, I don’T. But, what am I supposed to do at this point? I can’t keep ignoring what’s right in front of me.

Abby: That’s a big step and not an easy one.

Lily: Well, I know that you were hoping tucker wouldn’t let you down.

Devon: Honestly, I don’t think I ever really had high expectations for our relationship, given our history.

Lily: Well, now he’s part of your life again and dominic’S.

Devon: Oh, tell me about it. He’s a damn regular at dominic’s music classes.

Abby: He’s even made friends with all the other parents in the class. He’s taken so many videos of dominic playing the drums.

Devon: And it seems like he’s really loves embracing that role and like he’s trying to turn his life around.

Lily: So, what do you think changed?

Devon: I really believe that whatever happened with your mom in paris did something to him or undid all the progress he’s been making. I think that he really loved ashley and when that fell apart–

Abby: So did he.

Devon: As much as I don’t wanna think that he’s going backwards in life, the signs are everywhere. And maybe it’s on me now to change the way I respond to him.

Abby: We’ll support you no matter what you decide.

Lily: Yeah, absolutely. We have your back.

Devon: Well, thank you. I appreciate you saying that. But I just– I can’t shake the feeling that he is up to something. And I’m not gonna let our family or our company be affected by whatever it is. I will not let that happen.

Diane: Do you mean that? You wanna come back to jabot?

Kyle: I do. I think it’s the right move. I just have to figure out how to make it happen. Dad, hey.

Diane: How was the meeting?

Kyle: What’s going on?

Diane: Jack?

Kyle: Uh, care to explain? Before my doctor and I chose breztri for my copd, getting this? Water doesn’t have to be boring. With over 40 delicious flavors, cirkul starts a party for your tastebuds. Phyllis: Oh, I was. I decided to make a stop.

Danny: I keep seeing you and jack together and lots of tension. Um, why is that?

Phyllis: Yeah, there’s tension. Well, he can’t seem to forgive me for what I did. And, um, it’s just uncomfortable.

Danny: And that’s all that it is?

Phyllis: Yep, that’s all. What else would it be?

Danny: I– I don’t know.

Phyllis: Okay. Why are you asking? Why do you care? It seems like you followed me here.

Danny: I saw your exchange with jack and tucker at crimson lights and it seemed a little, I don’t know, weird. A little suspicious maybe?

Phyllis: [ Laughing ] Yeah. Tucker’s weird. He can’t even order a cup of coffee in a normal way. I mean, it’s like he’s part of some battle plan.

Danny: I know there’s a lot of animosity between tucker and jack and I just hope that, you know, somehow you’re not caught in the middle of it.

Phyllis: Thank you. I’m not caught in the middle. You sound paranoid.

Daniel: Paranoid about what?

Danny: Hey.

Audra: Hm. Well, good morning to you.

Tucker: Speak for yourself.

Audra: What’s wrong?

Tucker: It’s jack. Trying to get phyllis to play double agent.

Audra: Against you?

Tucker: No. I can’t figure out if she’s onto anything yet.

Audra: Well, you know, phyllis is unpredictable. Hard to read.

Tucker: Mm. I just don’t– I don’t see jack teaming up with her though. Why would he even trust her at this point?

Audra: Well, they have a very public, extremely volatile history that can really blur the line between allies and enemies.

Tucker: Yeah, that’s putting it mildly.

Audra: You know, phyllis is desperate for forgiveness, so maybe she’s willing to work overtime in order to get it.

Tucker: Yeah. Jack already figured out that she helped me break into jabot’s financials though, so I don’t know why he would give her the benefit of the doubt.

Audra: Well, that’s his problem.

Tucker: Could be mine too. I gotta stay ahead of this.

Audra: And you will, okay? Because you won’t let us down. You told me to have faith in you, remember?

Tucker: Mm-hmm. What about you? How are things on your end? Were you able to reignite the flame with kyle?

Audra: Yeah, it was pretty easy and most enjoyable.

Tucker: You’re glowing. You have nice little chipper attitude.

Audra: I haven’t even told you the best part. Kyle is after billy’s job.

Tucker: You don’t say? Hm. I seem to recall that kyle had the co-ceo position before. Makes sense to me that he’d want it back.

Audra: You don’t seem surprised.

Tucker: I’m not.

Audra: So, that’s what this was about. You want billy out of the picture at jabot and kyle is the way to do it.

Diane: So, what’s going on?

Jack: I had my meeting with phyllis. She hacked into tucker’s computer and discovered he recently purchased a listening device and the app to go with it.

Diane: The bonsai tree.

Jack: Tucker’s little gift of harmony had his hidden surprise.

Kyle: Ah, that son of a bitch!

Diane: Peace, love, and forgiveness my ass. And I– I was hoping we wouldn’t have to worry, I’m sorry.

Jack: No, you have nothing to apologize for. You have a generous spirit. I’m a little more jaded.

Diane: And phyllis discovered this and just gave you the information no strings attached?

Jack: Yes, phyllis gave it to me, but phyllis was phyllis. I tried to get her to admit she helped tucker to frame billy and she wouldn’t have any of that.

Diane: Of course not.

Kyle: This is a bold move on tucker’s part.

Jack: That is tucker to his core.

Kyle: So, why not just destroy it?

Jack: I thought about that. I changed my mind.

Diane: Why?

Jack: This could be useful. If tucker isn’t on to us, we can use this to our advantage.

Daniel: Okay, here’s one. Three bedrooms, two and a half baths. That will give me an office and a guest room. Don’t really know if I need all that space, but I guess we’ll figure it out.

[ Knocking on door ]

[ Daniel sighing ] Heather. When did you get here? Um, come on in. Sorry.

Heather: Yeah. I– I got in this afternoon, actually.

Daniel: Is lucy with you?

Heather: No. Uh, she’s in lisbon with paul and christine. I just came back to wrap up the last of those pro bono cases that I handled over the summer. Two more days in court.

Daniel: Okay. It’s great to see you.

Heather: Yeah, you too.

Daniel: Is everything all right?

Heather: Yeah, everything’s fine.

Daniel: Are you sure? Because you– you seem a little flustered.

Heather: Just busy. I have a lot, you know.

Daniel: Yeah, but it’s more than that, isn’t it?

Heather: I don’t know, daniel, it’s, um, it’s, uh…

[ Heather exhaling ] This–

Daniel: Whoa, whoa, okay. Okay. What is it? Look, it’s– it’s me. You can talk to me. What’s going on?

Diane: Thank you for today. It was a perfect, beautiful afternoon. Well, almost perfect.

Jack: No, no, no, don’t even go there. I am going to pretend that, that interruption from tucker never even happened. Nothing is going to spoil this moment. And I am standing here alone with my beautiful wife, telling her how much I love her.

Kyle: Thank you.

Audra: I’m guessing you want me to reconnect with kyle so I can use him. You expect me to manipulate him into doing something that benefits you.

Tucker: You know the plan.

Audra: Kyle was never part of the plan.

Tucker: Hey, you keep your eye on the prize. Jabot. We’re gonna take over that company and you are gonna step in and you are gonna run it. Don’t worry about kyle. He’s a means to an end. Unless, of course, he means more to you than you let on.

Audra: Wow, kyle. Twice in one night. You know, I think the universe might be trying to tell us something.

Kyle: Hello, audra.

Audra: Hi, how are you doing? We didn’t really get a chance to talk at the reception.

Kyle: Is that why you followed me here? Or did you have something else on your mind?

Traci: Jack and diane seem so happy, don’t they, billy?

Billy: Yeah. No, it was a very lovely ceremony.

Traci: Yeah. And for kyle to be the one to pronounce them husband and wife is just, I mean, how awesome is that? Billy. Billy!

Billy: What? Yeah.

Traci: Do you figure if you stare at that long enough you’re gonna– you’re gonna be able to tell what’s inside?

Billy: I’m not just staring at it. I mean, are you not curious about what’s inside here?

Traci: No, I don’t care one little bit what sick idea of a wedding gift tucker mccall has given them. And jack doesn’t care either, which is why he’s told us to ignore it and throw it out. So, what are we waiting for?

Audra: So, even if ashley gave you a sign, you’d still go after jabot?

Tucker: Absolutely. She showed me who she really is in paris. And so, now I’m left to believe that everything that came before is just a game. A ploy to pull me back in.

Audra: But why?

Tucker: God knows. Probably some long ago resentment she can’t let go of.

Audra: I think you’re wrong. No, I think she did fall back in love with you. She just found it harder to break away from her family than she thought.

Tucker: I think you missed your calling. Sadly, therapists don’t make the kind of money you’d be interested in though.

Audra: I know what I saw.

Tucker: Not from personal experience, I assume?

Audra: I’ve never been in love in that way.

Tucker: Well, take it from me, it’s highly overrated.

Audra: Well, at least you’ve been there. And I think you still are.

Tucker: In love with ashley?

Audra: Yes. And I also believe that if you gave yourself permission, you know, to go back to that place, you’d give her another chance and call off this attack.

Tucker: Let me be perfectly clear about something, audra. There is nothing that will stop me from dismantling the abbotts and taking everything they hold dear. Nothing.

Both: Hey.

Tucker: What a nice surprise. Sit down. Let me buy you a drink.

Devon: How about, uh, first, you tell me how sincere you really were about making peace with jack earlier. This isn’t charmin!

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by… -you got this buddy.

-During an asthma attack,

Tucker: My best wishes to jack and diane were absolutely sincere.

Devon: Since when? What’s changed?

Tucker: Me. My attitude about things. Ashley broke my heart, so I was determined to have her family suffer the way I had suffered. I was driven to have my revenge on them until I realized I can’t hold the abbotts accountable for what she does. Any more than you should be held accountable for something I might do.

Devon: Well, that sounds reasonable.

Tucker: It was as much for me as it was for them. Let me tell you, vengeance can be exhausting.

Devon: I can imagine.

Tucker: Something tells me you’re not quite believing me though.

Devon: I would like to believe you.

Tucker: But?

Devon: But you don’t make it easy all the time. At all. I got conflicting stories that I’m hearing about you. People contacting me worried about what you’re gonna do. I know you came to town going after the abbotts and wanting to make them pay for whatever bad things you thought they did to you.

Tucker: Yeah, it’s all true.

Devon: So, you can understand then why your sudden shift in attitude might surprise some people.

Tucker: Including you?

Devon: Especially me.

Tucker: Well, I can’t think of any other way to prove it to you than the actions I take going forward. I realize that I have disappointed you quite a bit in the past, but I’m telling you right here now, I have no ulterior motive. I feel like my demons have been silenced. I just don’t want any more chaos in my life. Just peace and quiet.

Devon: Well, I hope that’s true.

Tucker: You can count on it.

Devon: I have another question for you. What’s your connection to aunt mamie?

Daniel: Can I, uh, get you something to drink? You want a water or anything?

Heather: No, I’m fine, thanks.

Daniel: So, what’s– what’s– what’s going on? What’s this all about?

Heather: I don’t even know where to start. Um…

Daniel: Well, why don’t you… just tell me what you’re feeling?

Heather: Abject terror?

Daniel: Seriously?

Heather: Uh, no. It’s not that dire. I’m sorry, I didn’t– I didn’t mean for it to come out like that. It’s just that ever since I left genoa city, I– I– I’ve been feeling a little off balance. And, um, it– it– it was like something felt unresolved and I– I don’t– I don’t know what or why.

Daniel: So, this wasn’t just about wrapping up a case?

Heather: No, but it did seem like a good reason to come back and try and figure it all out. It actually started with that conversation with phyllis, when she asked me if I ever thought about returning to the states to live. I mean, that definitely took me by surprise, but it did get me to thinking that– that maybe this feeling of restlessness that I’ve had isn’t just a passing thing. Because ever since I left, the longing to come back home is so strong. I… I can’t ignore it anymore.

Daniel: Well, look, I am all for you guys being closer so I can spend more time with lucy.

Heather: That’s what I came back here to tell you. I’ve decided to wrap up my law practice in europe and move back home.

Daniel: Are– are you serious? I– I don’t– I don’t know what to say. Heather, that’s– that’s fantastic. I mean, I’m– I’m happy. I’m happy for me. I’m happy for you. What– what are you thinking? Are you thinking of going back to uh, savannah?

Heather: No. We’re moving here. Genoa city. I want lucy to be close to her dad.

Audra: I’m not gonna deny it. I did follow you here.

Kyle: Why?

Audra: To talk to you.

Kyle: Oh, the last time we talked, you fired me and then you made it very clear you wanted nothing to do with me, or with us.

Audra: Well, the truth is I missed us.

Kyle: What are you angling for audra?

Audra: I’m not angling for anything. You know, I just regret that things cooled between us. That’s all. You know, I went to the party to tell you that, but you were so occupied all the time, I didn’t really have the chance.

Kyle: You could have tapped me on the shoulder. I was around.

Audra: Yeah, but with nikki and diane glaring at me all night, I kind of lost my nerve.

Kyle: Hm. Because you’re the self-conscious type?

Audra: In some instances, I actually am.

Kyle: Okay. Sure. Well, here we are. So, what now?

Audra: I guess that’s kind of up to you.

[ Kyle chuckling ]

Kyle: Did you really just say that to me? I wasn’t the one who put the brakes on us. That was you. Because you were scared of being fired. I was fine with doing our little thing in private without nikki knowing about it, but then she forced you to ditch me and you lost my number. So, forgive me if I’m not feeling very generous towards you right now.

Audra: Look, everything you’re saying is true. All of the above. But what I’m telling you is, look, I made a mistake and I will do anything I can to try and make it up to you. (Buzz) we’re such great friends we should have a nickname,

Jack: You know what I’ve been thinking?

Diane: What?

Jack: We never danced.

Diane: We didn’t?

Jack: Nope.

Diane: Well, you know, the whole afternoon was such a blur, but you’re right, we didn’T.

Jack: Don’t you think we should?

Diane: Oh, I’m sorry, jack, but the band went home.

Jack: Oh, who needs a band?

Diane: What?

Jack: May I have this dance, mrs. Abbott?

Diane: Of course, mr. Abbott. Aw.

Jack: Hm. We did it. We proved them all wrong. We stood up before god and family and the citizens of genoa city and declared our love for all to see. And they can’t doubt us now. Even nikki was supportive.

Diane: Yeah. And who could’ve imagined that?

Jack: I am just so proud of us. We have shown the world what love and commitment can do. And they have no choice but to accept it, to embrace it, or just turn and walk away. What more could we want?

Diane: Hm. I can think of something.

Jack: Oh, what?

Diane: That this night would last forever. Hm.

[ Door slamming ]

Billy: You know, we could be squandering a real opportunity here.

Traci: I don’t follow you.

Billy: Well, uh, this wedding gift, whatever this is, could be insight into what tucker’s thinking. Right? I mean, [ Sighs ] He loves to believe that he’s more clever than everyone else. Like a riddle from the riddler.

Traci: Or it could be just some– something hateful and despicable that he’s aiming at ashley and the abbotts specifically.

Billy: Uh-huh.

Traci: Or it could be a blender.

[ Laughs ] Oh, I don’t care. Why are you obsessing about this, billy? Come on. Let’s just take it to the trash, open up the lid and put it in there.

Billy: Hm. Okay. Fine.

[ Billy exhaling ] To hell with it.

Traci: Oh, billy, what are you doing?

Billy: No, I’m just satisfying my curiosity.

Traci: Come on, jack said that–

Billy: I know what jack said. He said, get rid of it and I will. I just want to see what’s inside first and we’ll start with the card. “May this symbol of harmony, balance, and patience bring those elements to your new life as husband and wife.” That’s very sweet. It rhymes. Okay.

[ Traci sighing ]

Traci: Hm. I guess that’s it, huh?

Billy: Hm.

Traci: No evil dolls or exploding clocks.

[ Traci laughing ] I hope you’re satisfied.

Tucker: What makes you think there’s some connection between me and your aunt mamie? I hardly know her.

Devon: Well, why did you look at her like that?

Tucker: Like what?

Devon: Like you did. The look you gave each other was clearly more than two people that barely knew each other.

Tucker: I’m sorry, I don’t know what look you’re referring to. Um, if there was a look, you’re misreading it. I mean, seriously, what connection could there possibly be between us? Are you guys watching? This is my favorite part.

Devon: Actually, you know what? Let me back up for you. Um, recently, mamie just made an investment into chancellor-winters and it came completely out of the blue. She didn’t tell me or lily beforehand that she was gonna do it. And her reasoning behind that, I don’t really buy.

Tucker: That’s very interesting, but what does that have to do with me?

Devon: I don’t know what it has to do with you. That’s why I’m asking. Trying to connect the dots. Because when you came to town, you were going after jabot and then you planted audra in my company because you were interested in it. Then, you just recently lost your chance at a new venture with ashley and now you’re claiming that you’re not interested in jabot anymore. And then, suddenly, mamie shows up and she buys a stake in chancellor-winters. So, what should I make of it?

Tucker: It sounds like a series of random, unconnected events to me.

Devon: Really?

Tucker: Yeah.

Devon: I know what I saw between you and mamie. You can sit here and deny it all you want.

[ Indistinct ] You might as well just tell me what the connection is.

[ Both exhaling ]

Audra: God, I missed that.

Kyle: Uh-huh.

[ Audra sighing ] So, what now?

Audra: Now, we continue to see each other.

Kyle: Really?

Audra: Yes, really.

[ Kyle scoffing ] I want that.

Kyle: What changed?

Audra: Nothing.

Kyle: Hm.

Audra: I just decided you’re worth the risk.

Kyle: Hm. Well, I’m flattered, but nikki has her antennas up. So, even if we’re careful, she’s bound to find out eventually.

Audra: Then, let her.

Kyle: I’m serious.

Audra: So am I. You know, I’m no longer concerned with what nikki thinks or does. And if she’s gonna fire me over having a private life, so be it.

Kyle: Wow. That’s a switch. It’s almost like you have a backup plan.

Audra: Hm. Maybe I do.

Heather: What do you think about us moving back here?

[ Daniel scoffing ]

Daniel: I’m thrilled.

Heather: Really? Oh. Sorry. Thank god.

Daniel: I– I’m sorry, but did you think that I wouldn’t be?

Heather: I wasn’t sure how you’d react. I was, um, I was practicing what I would say to you in my room like I was going over arguments for court. I was really nervous.

Daniel: I– I just want to know why though. I mean, you know that I wanted to spend more time with lucy. I– I just– I thought after everything that I put the both of you through that you never wanted to ever be close to me ever again.

Heather: That was a really bad time. You hurt us deeply. Both of us. You destroyed our family.

Daniel: Yeah. No, I’m– I’m aware. Thank you. Um, and you know, that’s something that I’ve struggled with. I struggled, wondering if you would ever be able to forgive me. And I mean, really forgive me. And I think it’s a miracle that lucy and I have been able to get so close again, but… well, for you to say that you wanna come back here. I don’t know what to say. I mean, that’s beyond my wildest dreams.

Heather: I do forgive you, daniel. I have seen such growth, such humility. I mean, you are finally becoming the man I always knew that you could be. So yes, I completely forgive you. Try killing bugs the worry-free way.

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

Daniel: You have no idea how much that means to me to hear you say that.

Heather: I had to let all that go, daniel. I mean, as much for my own sake as yours. The anger and the resentment was weighing me down. And then, I saw how you changed. How you were with lucy. How much she loves you. How she forgave you and it just went away.

Daniel: [ Exhales ] Well, um, I, for one, am glad that you did not give up on me.

Heather: So am I.

Daniel: And I’m not gonna lie. I kinda love the idea of the two of you moving here. You know, I can see the both of you every single day and I don’t know, we can just be a family again.

Heather: That’s all I needed to hear.

Kyle: So, what’s this backup plan of yours?

Audra: Hm?

Kyle: Well, you don’t seem to be scared of nikki’s wrath anymore. So, what are you cooking up?

Audra: I just missed you. Isn’t that enough?

Kyle: I am flattered audra, but I know you. So, what else are you doing?

Audra: I never said I had a backup plan, okay? Just that, you know, there’s a few possibilities out there. That’s all.

Kyle: And you aren’t gonna tell me what they are?

Audra: Well, I don’t wanna jinx it, kyle. Not until I actually know what’s gonna happen for sure. Anyway, I’d much rather talk about you.

[ Kyle sighing ]

Kyle: What about me?

Audra: Hm. Well, it’s been a while since, you know, you left newman media. I’m sure you have a few irons in the fire.

Kyle: Oh, since you fired me?

Audra: After nikki forced me to fire you, okay? I regret caving into her. I do. And, you know, I– I made a mistake. And didn’t I just prove to you how I really feel about you? So, can we please just drop it?

Kyle: Mm. Well, consider it dropped.

Audra: Thank you.

Kyle: Well, yes, I do have a few possibilities of my own.

Audra: I mean, if you don’t want to tell me that’s fine. It’s– it’s only fair.

Kyle: No, I’m not scared of jinxes. So, there are rumblings at jabot that my dad is, surprise, surprised, not too happy with billy’s performance. So, there may be an opening there soon.

Audra: Oh.

Kyle: That’s an underwhelming response.

Audra: Well, I’m sorry, kyle, but even if that were true, do you really think jack would give that position to you?

Diane: I’m so glad that kyle agreed to officiate.

Jack: Seems to me the least he could do for his parents, don’t you think?

Diane: That’s true. I loved it.

Jack: It was lovely. I liked it a lot too.

Diane: I saw it as a sign that he is fully on board with our marriage. And you know what else I saw as a positive sign? That he didn’t bring a date to the wedding.

Jack: Need I remind you audra showed up?

Diane: Yeah, but kyle barely even acknowledged her. And he and summer seem to be getting along, so I don’t know, maybe there’s hope for their little family.

Jack: Maybe.

Diane: You don’t seem very optimistic.

Jack: Oh, I don’t know. If it happens, it happens. The one thing I do know is nothing good will come of us pushing him. And audra did show up and as I saw it, she was pretty interested in rekindling things.

Diane: Yeah. But it takes two people on board to make that happen. And kyle definitely seemed not to be.

Tucker: Yes, I know mamie as someone to say hello to, but that’s as far as it goes. I don’t know how you go from there to– to me using her to get my hooks into chancellor-winters?

Devon: So, the look you gave her was just–

Tucker: It was just a look. It was a glance, recognition. Oh, look, there’s mamie. Frankly, I’m afraid you’re buying into the town’s collective suspicion of me. If you saw something in that look, maybe mamie has an ulterior motive, but it’s got nothing to do with me.

Devon: Okay.

Tucker: Is that okay, yes I believe you? Or, okay, I still have my doubts?

Devon: That an okay, that I’m choosing to believe you.

Tucker: It still doesn’t solve your problem though, does it?

Devon: What do you mean?

Tucker: Well, you’re concerned there’s something going on with your investor. What is it? Maybe I can help? You know that feeling of having to rewash dishes

Jack: Is that what I think it is?

Billy: Yes. I opened up tucker’s wedding gift.

Traci: Honestly, jack, I tried.

Jack: I’m sure you did.

Billy: And so, what?

Jack: So what? Once again, you have completely ignored what I asked you to do.

Billy: I was curious, jack.

Jack: Oh. And your curiosity led you to this plant? I’m sure there was a great payoff for that. Huh?

Billy: No, no. What do you think?

Jack: You don’t want to know what I think?

Diane: You know what? I’m glad that billy opened it.

Jack: Why?

Diane: Why? Because it takes its power away. If we would have just thrown it away and never discovered what it was, we’d always be wondering and talking about tucker’s gift. You know, is it a message or a warning or an olive branch?

Jack: Frankly, I don’t give a damn.

Diane: Really, jack? Are you that much more evolved than the rest of us?

Jack: I didn’t say that.

Billy: Well, you sure implied a whole hell of a lot.

Jack: You’re both completely missing my point. The reason I want that thing thrown away is I don’t want tucker mccall in any way, shape, or form intruding on what is one of the happiest days of my life. Here we are talking about tucker, speculating about tucker. I have had it up to here. I want this over and done with.

Diane: All right. Well, I would like to think that this gift is tucker’s way of expressing the same thing. That– that he’s done being at war with the abbotts and he wants peace.

Jack: I wish I shared your optimism. Nothing that man has ever done should be taken at face value. I know you see this as a harmless gift, but tucker isn’t done.

Tucker: Tell me what’s going on. Why are you worried about mamie buying a piece of chancellor-winters?

Devon: It’s– it’s just a feeling I get.

Tucker: That’s all good. I can work with that.

Devon: Uh, I didn’t know it was this late. I need to get back home.

Tucker: Okay, some other time then?

Devon: Sure. Some other time.

Tucker: Um, devon.

Devon: Yeah.

Tucker: Are we good? Do you still suspect that I’m involved in some kind of conspiracy? Whatever it might be.

Devon: Tucker. Honestly, if you meant what you said earlier, then I’m happy and relieved.

Tucker: But you still have your doubts? I just hope someday that, uh, we come to a point where suspicion of me is not your first instinct.

Devon: I mean, that’s really up to you, right?

Tucker: Indeed it is.

Devon: I’ll see you later.

Tucker: See you.

Heather: One of the good things– thank you. That my dad taught me was that life is too short to not go after the things that are important to you. So, I did it when I moved to portugal, even if it was to escape a bad situation, and I guess I’m doing it again. Deciding to leave a successful law practice over there to start all over again in a new place.

Daniel: Oh, well, you know, I wouldn’t say you’re starting all over again. And, you know, there’s no doubt in my mind that you’ll be just as successful here in genoa city.

Heather: Thank you. I appreciate your support.

Daniel: Yeah. And, you know, you have options too. If you want to stay in private practice, you can do that. If– if you want, I can talk to devon and lily, see if maybe there’s something they can set you up with over at chancellor-winters.

Heather: I don’t want any favors.

Daniel: This would be doing them a favor. Trust me. Um, when are you planning on making this move? What’s the timeline look like?

Heather: Immediately? If you’re taking an antidepressant So, you know, she doesn’t

Heather: The reason why I wanted to come back right away is to get lucy situated in school. So, you know, she doesn’t miss too much of the year.

Daniel: That makes sense and I can take care of that while you get everything packed up.

Heather: That’s great. Thank you.

Daniel: Yeah. Look, if there’s anything that you can think of that you want or need, just ask and I’ll get it done.

Heather: I will.

Daniel: This is really happening, huh?

Heather: It’s crazy, huh? You know, life just surprises you and takes you to places you never thought you’d ever go.

Daniel: Or come back to you.

Heather: You made this really, really easy, daniel. Thank you. This went so much better than I thought it would or however I feared it would go.

Daniel: I’m a little surprised that you thought it could go poorly because I gotta tell you, I am 100% on board here. I– I cannot be happier.

Heather: I’m about to grab a bite. You want to join?

Daniel: Uh, I– I would– I would love to, but I actually have a dinner appointment that I’m already late for. So, um, what about a drink tomorrow?

Heather: Yeah. I’d love that.

Daniel: This is– this is gonna be great.

Heather: Yeah, I think so too.

Daniel: So tomorrow.

Heather: Tomorrow.

Daniel: I’ll call you.

Heather: I’ll look forward to it.

Kyle: Why do you think my dad wouldn’t offer me the top job at jabot? I’ve had it once before.

Audra: Yes. But he’s always figured out a way to push you aside whenever it suited him.

Kyle: I was responsible for some of that too.

Audra: I mean, I think it’s great that you’re taking some ownership, but, you know, even if billy is pushed out the door, wouldn’t logical wisdom make diane next in line?

Kyle: Mm-mm. I don’t think so.

Audra: Why not?

Kyle: I love my mother, but between you and me, she’s not ready for a high-level position like that. She hasn’t been there before and on some level, my dad knows that too.

Audra: Hm. Okay. So, what happens if jack doesn’t get rid of billy?

Kyle: Then, I’ll just have to help things along.

Diane: I’m not saying tucker is as zen as he claims to be. He’s still a snake. But now we have some leverage with that snake and maybe that’s why he’s giving up the war.

Traci: I suppose it’s possible.

Billy: Uh.

Jack: I don’t know.

Diane: We’re so used to being on guard with everything that tucker does or says or even thinks. We need a new perspective. Jack, we were just outside and you were saying how nice it was to be together and not worry about the world and all its problems. We just renewed our wedding vows. It is time for a fresh start. We shouldn’t waste our time or our lives waiting for tucker mccall to drop another shoe.

Nate: How does it feel to be back here?

Mamie: A lot of memories. Some of them, I will always cherish. Others… but today, we are here to celebrate.

Traci: Mamie! Oh, mamie. Hi. Hi, nate. I am so glad that you could be here today.

Mamie: So am I. Our jackie certainly looks happy.

Traci: Yes, he does. I think he has finally found what he’s been searching for.

Mamie: Well, if that’s true, then it is indeed a glorious day.

Jack: Could I have your attention, please?

Traci: Oh, excuse me.

Jack: Diane and I would like to thank you all for coming to this celebration of our recent marriage, but before the festivities really begin, we’d like to do something a little special, uh, with the help of our son. I love this woman so much, I wanna marry her all over again. Right here, right now, with all of you as witnesses.

Abby: Oh, yay!

[ Attendees clapping ]

Nikki: Oh, how fun.

[ Attendees clapping ]

Tucker: Hey.

Audra: You want me to, uh, reignite the fire with kyle? And then what? You can’t just send me a text like that without some explanation.

Tucker: I didn’t think I would need to provide detailed instructions on how to go about it.

Audra: I’m more curious about the why part.

Tucker: Just trust me.

Audra: Okay, that’s gonna be a little difficult without more intel, okay? And wherever this is going, I’m not sure I like it.

Tucker: You seemed to be liking it quite a bit when I walked in on the two of you a while back.

Audra: Oh, my god.

Tucker: How hard could it be to recapture that? And why wouldn’t you want to?

Audra: Okay, let’s forget for a second what would be in it for me because I know you couldn’t care less. What’s in it for you?

Jack: You ready?

Kyle: Oh, I’m a licensed professional of the internet variety. Are you ready?

Jack: You bet.

Diane: All right. Let’s do this.

Kyle: All right. Dearly beloved, we are gathered here in the sight of god and all of our family and friends and any wedding crashers to celebrate this couple, my parents, as they renew their vows. That’s your queue.

Jack: Oh. I feel so lucky, so blessed that we found our way back to each other. I never thought I could feel this kind of joy again. And it’s all because of you. I thank god for it every day. For you, for the way you love me. I promise to always be worthy of that love. I promise to be your partner in all things. Your friend, your confidant, your home. With all my heart, I love you. Now and always.

Diane: Jack, you are such a– a kind, patient, compassionate man. You’ve changed my life. I’m grateful every day for how much you love me and you don’t just– you don’t just say the words. You– you show me what it means to be a true partner in– in everything you do. So, I promise before god and everyone here that I will always be there for you. To love and support you, to– to comfort you. To fight for you. To be your home. Every day, every moment. As long as you will have me.

Kyle: You know, I– I can’t think of a better place for you to be making this commitment to each other. I mean, it’s our family home. A place that holds so many memories, so much love. So dad, do you take this woman to be your wife? Do you promise to love her and cherish her, and protect her, and stand by her side, no matter what life throws at you, from this day forward?

Jack: I do.

Kyle: And mom, do you take this man to be your husband? Do you promise to love him and cherish him, and protect him, and stand by his side, no matter what life throws at you, from this day forward?

Diane: I do.

Kyle: Well then. By the power vested in me and the internet, and the state of wisconsin, I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the groom and vice versa.

[ Attendees cheering ]

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Audra: I’m guessing you want me to reconnect with kyle so I can use him. You expect me to manipulate him into doing something that benefits you.

Tucker: Not just me, us. We have a common goal, remember? Just do what I ask, we’ll all benefit.

Audra: I don’t like taking orders about my personal life.

Tucker: I’m not giving you orders. I’m encouraging you to follow your bliss.

Audra: Oh, my bliss? Yeah. Where does that lead me? Us?

Tucker: You know the plan.

Audra: Kyle was never part of the plan.

Tucker: Maybe kyle was always part of my plan.

Audra: Oh my god, this is infuriating.

Tucker: All shall be revealed in good time, my dear. Meanwhile, you help move things along. Have a little fun in the process. Hey, you keep your eye on the prize, jabot. We’re gonna take over that company and you are gonna step in and you are gonna run it. And I’m gonna be on the sidelines. I’m gonna cheer you on. I’m gonna advise you. Kyle, he’s just a tool, man. Don’t worry about kyle. He’s a means to an end. Unless of course, he means more to you than you let on.

Audra: It’s not kyle I’m worried about.

Tucker: What then?

Audra: You know this, it’s all starting to feel like a desperate act than a plan B. Which makes it all seem less and less likely you can actually pull this off.

Jack: Thank you, sharon.

Sharon: Congratulations.

Traci: Well, you look ridiculously happy.

Jack: I think I am ridiculously happy.

Traci: Congratulations.

Diane: Aw, thank you, traci.

Nikki: That’s traci abbott, jack’s sister.

Claire: The author.

Nikki: Mm-hmm.

Claire: She’s a fantastic writer.

Nikki: And an even better human being.

Mamie: Jack, what a wonderful surprise. An impromptu wedding?

Jack: Made all the more lovely by you being here.

Mamie: Why, you look quite dashing. Almost as handsome as his father.

Diane: Oh, I have to disagree. I think my husband is the most handsome man in the world.

Mamie: Oh, I can see that. And you, I can see that same twinkle in your eye that you used to have when you had to have things your way.

Jack: I can’t help it, mamie. I am on top of the world.

Mamie: May you both be as happy as you are now all the days that you’re together.

Nikki: That’s mamie johnson. She worked for the abbotts for years and became an integral part of the family. She recently acquired a stake in chancellor-winters, but not a lot of people were happy with that.

Nate: Jack, diane. Congratulations.

Jack: Thank you, nate.

Nate: I am honored to have been a part of this special occasion.

Diane: Oh, we’re happy you’re here.

Nikki: Nate hastings, son of mamie’s niece, olivia. He is currently the coo of newman enterprises.

Devon: Jack. Congratulations to both of you. If I’d have known there’s gonna be a wedding, I’d have come better prepared.

Jack: Well, that’s why we made it impromptu.

Diane: Yes, we wanted it to be simply about us and our happiness, and share it with all of you.

Devon: Oh, thank you.

Nikki: Devon winters, the winters half of chancellor-winters.

Nate: Jack is clearly thrilled you’re here today. After all, you were a surrogate mother to him and his sisters growing up.

Mamie: Well, it was hard on them when dina left.

Nate: Then you have us, your other family, all in the same place. How does that feel?

Mamie: Like I’ve been blessed with a really rich and fulfilling life and with the capacity to hold all of that love in my heart. I’m not feeling any tension, if that’s what you’re asking.

Nate: Maybe not about your personal relationship to those in attendance.

Mamie: I was wondering when you were gonna get around to asking me about my investment in chancellor-winters.

Nate: What is really going on with that?

Abby: This was such a beautiful idea. Congratulations, you guys.

Jack: Thank you. Thank you.

Diane: And thank you for being so supportive of our relationship, even though I know it puts you in a difficult position with your mother.

Abby: You make him happy. And that’s what I want, for both of you. I’m just sad that this whole blow-up between my mom and tucker kept her from being here.

Diane: Yeah, I’m happy things are better between jack and ashley, but I really doubt she would have come back to celebrate the two of us getting married. I think– I think the best I can hope for with her is that she’ll tolerate me.

Abby: Well, I hope that she proves you wrong, that she’s capable of more.

Jack: I hope so too.

Summer: Thank you.

Kyle: Okay. Hey, I just checked on harrison. His fever’s down, but he’s out like a light.

Summer: He was so excited about today. Poor thing. I mean, the tears when he realized that he was sick. Sleep is the best thing for him right now.

Kyle: Agreed. Well, this is going well.

Summer: Yeah, you are really getting the hang of this whole marrying people thing. I think it could turn into a solid side hustle for you.

Kyle: Yeah. The moonlighting minister. I’ll keep that in my back pocket. But it was nice to be involved in that way.

Summer: Yeah. They seem really happy, in love.

Kyle: They do.

Summer: Ah, I’ll check on harrison in a bit.

Kyle: Okay. Hey, you look great.

Summer: Thanks. You do too. Wayfair has nice prices, so you can have nice things.

Summer: So, when do you officially start as chief of police?

Chance: Tomorrow’s my first day. They want me to do a presser with the mayor.

Summer: Oh, okay. You’re gonna be doing a lot of that from now on. The face of the G.C.P.D.

Chance: That’s the worst part. I hate all the publicity. I just want to do the job.

Summer: But you’re excited.

Chance: Yeah, I am. I am. I wouldn’t let myself believe that this would happen. Now, it’s here. So, reality’s kicking in.

Summer: Paul wanted you to step in because he knew that you would be great at it.

Chance: I just keep asking myself if this is the right job for me.

Summer: Are you serious right now? You have literally been chasing bad guys your entire life. You’re a natural leader.

Chance: Well, if being a leader means sitting behind a desk and not being out in the field, doing what I was trained to do, I don’t know, summer. I told myself I would never let this happen. It’s got me wondering, second-guessing myself.

Summer: Could I offer an unsolicited opinion?

Chance: You know what? After dumping all that on you, sure, why not?

Summer: Hey, that’s what friends are for.

Chance: Okay. So, I– I owe you one now.

Summer: That’s not how it works, but, okay. Uh, good to know.

Chance: What’s your opinion?

Summer: I kind of like the idea of you doing less of the actual chasing the bad guys. I really wouldn’t want anything to happen to my new friend.

Nikki: Chance chancellor, decorated soldier. Former government agent.

Claire: Wow.

Nikki: Yeah, he is a genuine hero. Never had any interest in the family business.

Claire: And his girlfriend?

Nikki: Oh, that’s not his girlfriend. That’s my granddaughter, summer. Kyle’s wife. Well, estranged wife. Sadly, they have filed for divorce.

Claire: Well, that’S… I’m sorry.

Nikki: Well, they’ve had their ups and downs, but I still think there’s hope for them. It– it just can’t be the end.

Claire: Why mrs. Newman, you sound like a romantic.

Abby: Things are good?

Sharon: Yeah. Yes. Um, things are falling into place with the new business.

Abby: And you and chance?

Sharon: Um, we’re having a lot of fun together. I– I’m– I’m really excited for him, you know, in his new job. He starts tomorrow as chief of police.

Abby: Yeah. Yeah, that’s a huge deal.

Chance: Yeah, I know.

Sharon: Um, will you excuse me?

Abby: Sure.

Chance: I do what I can.

Sharon: Hi, summer.

Summer: Hi.

Sharon: Oh, this is so much fun.

Nikki: Well, that was a lovely little ceremony. Victor sends his regrets.

Diane: Mm. I didn’t expect him to make an appearance. I’m kind of surprised you did.

Nikki: I need to get used to the fact that you and jack are together. I’ve accepted it.

Diane: Yes. Your friendship is very important to him.

Nikki: It is just as important to me. If you do anything to hurt jack, I will make your life a living hell. And there are many others who will help me.

Diane: Well, that goes without saying and I’d expect nothing less. You know, I’m happy that there are so many people who are so concerned about jack’s well-being, but you don’t need to worry, nikki, because what you fear is not going to happen.

Nikki: I hope that’s true, for jack’s sake and yours.

Tucker: I’m hurt by your lack of faith in me.

Audra: I haven’t lost faith in you. I’m just kind of losing faith in your plan. It has a feel of a losing proposition.

Tucker: Why? Because I had a minor setback? That was out of my hands. Adam defied daddy and didn’t destroy the evidence.

Audra: No. No, he gave it to the abbotts. I’d say that’s one gigantic fly in the ointment or wrench in the works.

Tucker: Ah, I’m not worried.

Audra: Not even a little bit? You know, the abbotts now have information about a singer on your payroll whose crimes were covered up until his tour was finished. That’s information that could bury you. Okay, now, it’s in the hands of the very people you’re going against.

Tucker: Let’s not forget, you and I are inextricably linked in this, right? My problem is your problem.

Audra: Which is why I don’t want to go in any deeper.

Tucker: Now, don’t go all cowardly on me.

Audra: I’m not being a coward. I’m being smart. It’s time to cut your losses, okay? Just admit that adam got the better of you and just make a deal with the abbotts. Which yes, it means you’re gonna have to give up this scheme and leave them alone. But it also means they’re gonna leave you alone and me, your inextricably linked partner. (Announcer) an important message for americans age 50 to 85.

Tucker: Are you turning down my offer to run jabot?

Audra: You don’t own jabot.

Tucker: Not yet. It’s just a matter of time.

Audra: So you keep saying.

Tucker: I’m gonna make it happen, but I don’t need it, you do. We both know you’re hanging on by a thread at newman. Hell, I’m surprised you’ve lasted this long given what nikki feels about you.

Audra: Maybe I’m just that good.

[ Tucker scoffing ]

Tucker: Don’t forget, it’s the newmans. It’s not a meritocracy.

Audra: And I am a survivor.

Tucker: But you need allies right now. You have none. Nate’s looking after himself now that victor’s back in control. Can we stop this game now? You’re gonna do what I ask you to do. You know why?

Audra: Why?

Tucker: Because you’re a survivor. Because helping me helps you. All right? Now that you’ve got that out of your system, you need to go get ready for a garden party.

Audra: At the abbotts.

Tucker: Yeah. Think about it, audra. You and kyle in that incredibly romantic setting. It gives me the warm and fuzzies. Absolutely magical.

Audra: And, uh, what even makes you think they’re gonna let me in?

Tucker: You’re just that good.

Audra: The place is gonna be crawling with security. They’re not gonna let me near the celebration.

Tucker: You’re telling me you’ve lost your sense of adventure too? Audra, you can do this. Huh? Kyle, oof. You want to do it. Stop wasting time and go knock kyle off his feet.

Jack: Thank you for coming through for us today.

Diane: Yes. What you said was lovely.

Kyle: I meant it. I was so happy and I was thrilled to officiate, especially since I missed your first wedding.

Diane: So, I saw you talking to summer earlier. Things looked pleasant. That’s good.

Kyle: Mom, that was us co-parenting. I was just updating her on harrison.

Diane: Well, it’s nice to see the two of you getting along.

Kyle: Don’t read too much into it.

Mamie: You know, it’s one thing for jill to be suspicious of me. And I’ll admit, I rather enjoy it. But I hope that you and lily don’t really feel that way.

Devon: No. No, not at all. We don’T. You just– it caught us by surprise to find out that you were the one that bought victor’s stake in the company because you’ve kept it such a secret from us.

Nate: I think it’s a good thing mamie has a stake. I mean, weren’t you the one talking about how you wanted chancellor-winters to be a family business?

Devon: I used to want that. Yeah.

Nate: I just don’t see why you have a problem with it. Is it because you wanted control of the situation?

Devon: No, I don’t have a problem with it at all, actually. I think it’s fantastic. And I think it’s great you’re gonna be in town more often. ‘Cause lily and I can spend time with you. And my son will get to know his aunt mamie.

Mamie: And that’s the most important part of all of this for me. Family.

Nate: That is something I think we can all agree on.

Mamie: I am determined. I’m gonna help you get past all of this animosity. I’m gonna make sure that the two of you and lily come back together again. You know, life is short and this has gone on long enough.

Nate: I agree. I’m not just accomplished.

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

Traci: Kyle, will you?

Kyle: Oh, sure, sure.

Traci: Thank you. Everyone, jack, diane. Thank you so much for this inspired surprise. And kyle, thank you too, honey. Well done. Um, you were talking earlier about this house and how much love it holds and it brought back so many amazing memories and many of them were made with so many of you that are here this afternoon. And some of them with those who are no longer with us. And I, um, felt mother and daddy here all afternoon with us, for this very beautiful occasion. So here’s to you both and your incredible love. May it fill this house to overflowing. Cheers.

All: Cheers. Hear, hear.

Abby: My turn.

[ Abby laughing ] So, as I was listening to your beautiful vows, I was just looking at the both of you and thinking, you didn’t even have to say one word to each other. It was all there in your eyes. The way that you were looking at each other, how connected you are and just how much you love each other. And I am so happy for you both. Congratulations. Cheers.

All: Cheers.

Devon: That was really good.

Mamie: Diane and my dear jack. I’m not sure that I believe that people are destined to be together, but I do know that when love is real and strong, it will find its way. As has yours. I wish you many, many years of happiness.

All: Cheers.

Kyle: Anyone else?

Nikki: Yes. Sometimes, it takes more than one try to make it work. I know that from experience. But there is a reason why two people keep finding their way back to each other. It could be that one of them is trying to escape a mess they’ve gotten themselves into–

Jack: Nikki…

Nikki: I’m talking about love. The kind of love that defies logic. That perseveres in the face of great odds. And despite interference from well-meaning individuals. Jack, diane. My sincerest congratulations.

All: Cheers.

Jack: I’ll be right back.

Guard: He insists he was invited, but he’s not on the guest list.

Jack: You handled it just perfectly. Thank you very much. I’ll take it from here. Well, you’ve got a lot of gall.

Tucker: I– I know how this looks and I can understand why you might be mad.

Jack: I am not mad. I am disgusted, but I’ll be just fine after you leave.

>>Tucker: Could we could just pretend for the moment that we’re on good terms?

Billy: Oh, you gotta be kidding me.

Tucker: Hey, billy, I was just telling jack–

Jack: You know what? I want you to leave, now.

Billy: Jack, can I have the honors, please?

Tucker: Guys, please? Please, please, relax. I come in peace and bearing gifts or gift for the happy couple.

Kyle: No, audra, I don’t blame you for firing me. That’s what nikki ordered you to do. What choice did you have?

Audra: None at all. And what’s with this sudden edge I’m hearing in your voice? Okay, I’ve heard you direct that at other people, but never at me and frankly, I don’t appreciate it.

Kyle: I’m surprised, that’s all.

Audra: At what?

Kyle: At how quickly you were able to turn off your feelings. We went from your hotel suite to distant acquaintances in the blink of an eye.

Audra: Well, I mean, you talk like we had some sort of storybook romance.

Kyle: I thought it meant something.

Audra: Yes, it did. Two consenting adults who were attracted to each other. You know, we had fun. The sex was great and now, we move on with our lives.

Kyle: I see.

Audra: Don’t look so wounded. Your pride might have taken a hit, but your heart, it’s just fine. Look, we both know the truth here. You’re not the love of my life and I’m not the love of yours. That would be summer.

Kyle: Okay. How many times do I have to say it? It is over between me and summer. There’s no hope of us finding our way back to each other.

Audra: Well, if that’s true, you know, which I doubt. I’m very sorry for you.

Kyle: Don’t be.

Audra: Look, kyle. Look, I know that this, okay, was just about you trying to forget how much summer means to you. But if you dig deep and take a long, hard, honest look, I think you’ll discover that you miss her and you still love her. Much more than you’re willing to admit. Nikki: Traci, this is claire grace, my new assistant at newman media.

Traci: Oh, claire. It’s very nice to meet you and congratulations on your new job.

Claire: Thank you. It’s so wonderful to meet you.

Nikki: Claire is a fan.

[ Traci laughing ]

Claire: Echoes of the past is one of my favorite books. I just– I love your work.

Traci: Oh, my gosh. That’s so sweet. Thank you. And we’re really glad that you could join us today.

Claire: Glad to be here.

Nate: Devon. So, aunt mamie was right. Life is too short. We’re family.

Devon: Yeah. And you know, it hurts a lot more when you get betrayed by your own family.

Nate: I apologize for what I did. I own my mistakes.

Devon: I know you did. And I– I forgive you. That doesn’t mean I have to forget, right?

Nate: Abby?

Abby: This is for the two of you to work out or not. I can’t tell devon how to feel about this.

Nate: Look, there’s gotta be some part of you that appreciates what aunt mamie’s trying to do. Wanting to bring the family together.

Devon: Yeah, she’s not talking about you and me fixing our personal issues. She just wants us to work together.

Nate: Her heart is in the right place. But I agree with you, that’s not gonna happen. I am happy where I am at newman.

Devon: Good.

Nate: And it’s not as if aunt mamie had the power to offer me a job if I did want to come over.

Devon: Yeah. I know.

Tucker: Please accept it.

Jack: I’m not interested in your gift.

Billy: Is it ticking, tucker? Because this is either a bomb or a joke?

Tucker: No, it’s just that I’ve been contemplating the situation I find myself in. And meditating about it and searching my heart, and all this–

Billy: This is nauseating, to be honest.

Jack: Please just leave.

Tucker: It’s exhausting. These feelings of– of anger and negativity, they’re really preventing me from letting go and moving on with my life.

Billy: Well, that’s very sweet, very sweet. Appreciate the catharsis. Can we move on?

Abby: Uncle jack.

Billy: Are you getting out town?

Tucker: Hello, son.

Devon: What are you doing here?

Tucker: I’m glad you asked. Even when I was with the people I love,

Mamie: I really want this to be all jack is hoping for.

Diane: Well, your blessing means the world to him.

Mamie: He’s like a son to me.

Diane: And he sure loves you.

Nate: Diane, you look radiant.

Diane: Oh, thank you.

Nate: This has been a wonderful afternoon. Aunt mamie, there is someone I’d like to introduce you to.

Mamie: Well, that will have to wait. I have to go and powder my nose. To be continued.

Diane: I look forward to it.

Nikki: I wasn’t expecting to see you here. I would have thought you had better judgment. Were you even invited?

Audra: By kyle. You know, I was surprised to get the invitation. You know, it seems you were right. He is having a hard time letting go.

Nikki: Well, you wouldn’t have come if you weren’t having a hard time letting go as well.

Audra: You’re right. I don’t want to. You know, I like being with kyle and if you can’t accept that, then we have a problem.

Tucker: I am here to apologize and make peace.

Devon: Well, I don’t think it’s the time or place to do that.

Tucker: I disagree. Uh, jack and diane are celebrating their marriage and the beginning of their new life together–

Jack: And your marriage just blew up.

Tucker: Yes. Yes. And I was filled with hurt and anger when I got back from paris, but I realized that was just causing me more hurt and anger and I don’t want to live that way. What can I do to prove to you that I’m sincere?

Billy: Why don’t you start by admitting you tried to frame me for embezzling money from my family company?

Tucker: Billy, I know nothing about that.

Jack: Then, we have nothing left to talk about. I’ll say one last time. Get the hell out of my house!

Recap written by Terry

Jack and Diane got married – again, by their son Kyle, who was certified via the internet to perform the wedding. Nikki pointed out the key players in town to her assistant, Claire. Nikki toasted Jack and Diane with a bit of thinly veiled distain, but wished them well with just enough sincerity to convince Jack she was sincere.

Tucker and Audra showed up uninvited. Nikki spotted her as she eyeballed Kyle. Audra lied that Kyle invited her and defiantly told Nikki that she likes being with Kyle and if Nikki cannot accept that, they had a problem. Until Tucker told her to resume her pursuit of Kyle, Audra was going along with Nikki’s order to break it off if Audra wanted to keep her job.

Tucker, with wedding gift in hand, claimed he wanted to make peace with the Abbotts, but Jack and Billy balked. Jack told him to get out and take his unwanted wedding gift with him. Billy wanted to know if the gift box was ticking.

Before Tucker and Audra arrived at the wedding reception, they spoke about Tucker’s plot to get Jabot. While Audra wanted no part of Tucker’s scheme, he told her that his problem was also her problem. He referred to Audra’s part in concealing information that an entertainer employed by Tucker’s record label had illegally cavorted with underaged girls while on tour.

Tucker told Audra his goal was to gain control of Jabot and Audra would run the company. He told her Kyle was a means to that end. Audra was skeptical of Tucker’s plan and his ability to pull it off, but co-operated.

Summer flirted with Chance at the reception, which Sharon spotted and put an end to it when she joined them and lightheartedly praised the party as fun.

Mamie attended the wedding reception, and told Nate and Devon she wanted to help them get past the animosity in the family. She said life is short and the family’s fueding had gone on long enough.

Recap written by Eva

Daniel is thrilled when Heather tells him she is moving back to Genoa City so Lucy can be close to him.

Billy disobeys Jack and opens Tucker’s wedding present to him and Diane. The present turns out to be a plant which Diane puts on the coffee table. Tucker sits at the Jazz Lounge listening to the Abbott family’s conversation using an app on his phone because the plant has a listening device inside the pot.

Devon asks Tucker if he worked with Mamie to buy a stake in Chancellor-Winters because he saw a look pass between them at Mamie’s family dinner. Tucker tells Devon he hardly knows Mamie and didn’t work with her to buy a stake in Chancellor-Winters, but Devon is skeptical of Tucker.

Audra and Kyle get back together and, after they have sex, Kyle tells Audra that he thinks Jack is going to fire Billy. Aura wonders what will happen if Jack doesn’t fire Billy. Kyle tells Audra if Jack doesn’t fire Billy, he will have to do something to make sure Billy is fired so he can get back his old job.

Billy: Thank you very much. Well, well, what are you still doing here?

Tucker: Why would I leave?

Billy: I just thought you would have left town by now.

Tucker: Yeah, that’s what I’m saying. Why?

Billy: Well, uh, I have proof that you and Audra did a disgusting thing. Covered up the evidence for a statutory rapist. That’s not a good look. You also failed miserably when you tried to make it look like I embezzled money from my family company. I paid all that money back to Jabot, by the way.

Tucker: Good boy.

Billy: And I can count on half a hand the amount of people that can actually stand the sight of your face, so i thought you would have took off.

Tucker: You probably forgot that I have a son and a grandson here in town who can stand the sight of me. And– and I’m not about to leave ’em again. And if you’re worried that I’m sticking around to exact revenge on you or the Abbotts or Jabot…

[ Scoffs ] I’m a lot of things, Billy, but I’m not an idiot. You’re holding a bomb over my head. So you win. Congratulations. You’ve pretty much forced me to back off.

Billy: Backing off isn’t the same as abandoning, tucker.

Tucker: Oh, god, forgive me. Abandoned. Is that better?

Billy: Not even a little.

Tucker: Yeah, I don’t know what I could do to prove to you that it’s over for me. That I’m just done with you and the Abbotts and your precious little company.

Traci: So, the florist has just finished setting up and that is done.

Jack: Thank god you changed that order. By the way, how did you remember that Abby is allergic to lilies?

Traci: Abby is my niece and I am Traci Abbott. It’s what I do. [ Laughs ]

Jack: And I don’t know what I would do without you in my life.

Traci: Well, you will die wondering

Lily: What exactly are your intentions at chancellor-winters?

Jill: Yeah, actually, I’m pretty curious about that myself.

[ Mamie laughs ]

Mamie: Jill, Jill, Jill. Who but you would show up at a private party to which you were not invited? Well, I can’t really say that I’m that surprised, but, oh, how rude.

Jill: You see, it just– it all seemed a little wonky, this secret investor thing the way it played out, so I just had to come and see firsthand if it was indeed you, Mamie, who bought into my company. And if so, why?

Mamie: Well, when this investment opportunity came to my attention, I just couldn’t refuse. Oh, come on, Jill, it’s wonderful, isn’t it? To be able to support a successful business and to reconnect with my family?

***************

Mamie: Jill, why is it that you only see shadows and secrets? I suppose that’s just how your mind thinks. But that’s not how the rest of us live our lives. This is my family that you’re in business with. You see the bottom line. I see love and togetherness. This is just not about you, honey.

Jill: Oh, lord, forgive me, Mamie, but I know who you really are and I find it very hard not to doubt your motives.

Mamie: [ Laughs ] Okay. So, Devon is correct. I didn’t have to make an investment in chancellor-winters in order to spend time with the people that I care about, but why not take advantage of a good business move at the same time?

Jill: Good choice of words. Boy, you really know about taking advantage, don’t you?

Mamie: Oh, no, you don’t wanna go down that road. I sit alongside John Abbott all those years that he was building his business empire. I took good care of the Abbott children.

Jill: You just stood alongside him? Sorry, honey, that wasn’t you.

TV Interview!

Interview with Sharon Case of “The Young and The Restless” on CBS by Suzanne 10/5/23

I so enjoyed speaking with Sharon! I’m a fan of hers, and of the show (which you’ll see below). It was great to meet her on Zoom, and it was really sweet of her to answer so many of our questions. We had a good time and laughed a lot.

Suzanne: Well, thanks for talking to me today.

Sharon: Yeah. Thanks for having me, Suzanne.

Suzanne: Yeah. You’ve been on Y&R next year for 30 years. How does that feel?

Sharon: It feels amazing. It’s wild. I guess you round off numbers when you speak about it. So for probably a few years now, I’d just round it off and say, Oh, you know, I’ve been here 30 years or, you know, so it’s not brand new, a brand new idea to me, but it will finally be official.

Suzanne: Yeah, that’s great. Do they give you a cake and things like that?

Sharon: I don’t know if they’re going to come up with a cake. Probably, they’ll offer a cake party. I think usually our anniversaries, we have a lot of anniversaries, a lot of casts have been here a long time. They usually do a cake party, yeah.

Suzanne: Okay, that’s cool.  I’ve been watching “The Young and The Restless” since 1986, and “General Hospital” since 1984. So I saw you on there as Dawn before you [played] Sharon.

Sharon: Right. I played Dawn, Monica Quartermaine’s daughter.

Suzanne: Yeah, no, that was great. I really liked Dawn, even though there were like five different actresses that played her.

Sharon: There were a lot of actresses that played Dawn. There were three who played Sharon.

Suzanne: Yeah, that’s right. That’s right. I forgot about that. And I was so upset when they, when they killed Dawn off. She was such a great character. But I’m glad that you got to go on and become Sharon for so long.

Sharon: But you know, dead is never dead in the soap either.

Suzanne: Yeah, but it was a long time ago. I don’t think she’s coming back now.

Sharon: Who knows? You know, she could.

Suzanne: That would be great, but… Has Sharon — I was trying to remember — has Sharon ever been dead or thought to be dead?

Sharon: She, well, let’s see, she fell off the cliff with Drusilla and she almost died. They thought maybe she was going to make it, but she made it. Okay, now I don’t think…Oh, and then when Sharon broke out of prison and went on the run, and she stayed with, Sam on the farm. Everyone in Genoa City thought Sharon was dead, they even had a funeral for her. And so, right, Sharon was meanwhile, living on a farm with Sam.

Suzanne: Yeah.

Sharon: She was thought to be dead then, too. Yeah, that, but not, not in the way that we were talking about somehow. Some characters do die — “die” — and they come back. It’s always fun to have to play that scene when a character comes back to life and you’re shocked. Like Diane recently.

Suzanne: Yeah, that’s right.

Sharon: It’s the best scene when your character runs into them, and you’re like, “Oh, my God!” What expression do you have from back from the dead, what would be the right expression? What is that?

[Both laughing]

Suzanne: I’m not so dead after all! That’s funny. Yeah. Yeah.

Suzanne: Well, it seems like Sharon has been through a lot on those 30 years, and [done] just about everything that a soap heroine can possibly do. I mean…

Sharon: Yeah, I’ve done a lot of really fun stuff…

Suzanne: Burning down Victor’s house, marrying Victor….That was weird!

Sharon: That was, yeah. Marrying. Yeah. But you know, that turned into some very good things that, I’ve been seeing a lot of, recently, people are tweeting or whatever, scenes where Sharon was having Victor’s funeral.

Suzanne: Mm-Hmm.  I remember that.

Sharon: It was the fake funeral. And that was just hilarious. And she was trying to marry Tucker at the same time. Those were some of the funniest scenes. And I had so much fun shooting them. And that was all part of the Sharon married Victor story.

Suzanne: Right.

Sharon: She then, you know, covered up his fake death, pretended he was dead, tried to take over Newman. It was a lot of fun.

Suzanne: Yeah, I’ll bet. And I remember a long time ago when Sharon was shoplifting.

Sharon: Yeah, that was great fun.

Suzanne: Yeah?

Sharon: That was the very beginning of her, kind of, her bipolar, I guess, is what they decided that was part of that, as well. I think her would-be behavior. yeah, it was really fun. And, I joke with Joshua Morrow sometimes when we’re just sitting in the Newman living room, doing scenes, you know, passing time when, you know, we have a lot of time sitting there in between scenes, and I say, I’m going to steal the coasters, Joshua. I’m going to have Sharon zip over first and steal the coasters. And I’ll just be doing that in the background while these people are talking. That would be hilarious. We always laugh about that. He laughs… He thinks, he’d like to start having his character only wear golf clothes all the time, to the office, everywhere, he’s just always in golf clothes.

Suzanne: He seems like he would be a lot of fun.

Sharon: He’s so much fun. I think that’s a genius idea.

Suzanne: Yeah, I remember, that was when, when, Sharon was stealing– shoplifting. That was when your character’s mom was still around.

Sharon: Yeah, we haven’t seen Sharon’s mom in a while. We still, we don’t know where her dad is yet.  So, there’s still things we have to find out.

Suzanne: Yeah, that’s great that they still have that story out there they could pull out anytime. And I’m glad to see that you’re doing something again, other than just pouring coffee and being a sounding board for your children and anyone else.

Sharon: Yeah…

Suzanne: After Rey died, then they didn’t do anything with Sharon for a very long time, besides that.

Sharon: I know, she had a very long mourning period. She had a long mourning. She really loved him. So she was paused for a while… but now she’s got this Kirsten Company, thanks to Cameron Kirsten. And, now she’s gonna go out on her own and build it into a great company, and, you know, take over the world.

Suzanne: Mm-hmm.  Yeah. That’s great. Judging from what I’ve seen on the show lately, it seems like Nick and Sharon may be headed back together. I know they don’t tell you much ahead of time, and you can’t really say spoilers, but would you be happy about that kind of reunion?

Sharon: Of course! I’m always happy when they reunite.  I– I love working with Joshua. Good news is, though, even when we’re not reunited, I get to work with him a lot anyway. We share children together. So, I mean, we always are doing scenes together in any case, either way.

Suzanne: Yeah, yeah. And do you think that they’re the next Victor and Nikki?

Sharon: Well, it seems so. I can see how people can compare the two.  They’ve been a couple on and off for, you know, like we just said, three decades now.

Suzanne: Yeah.

Sharon: And that does seem to parallel Victor and Nikki.

Suzanne: Right. And when you found out that Sharon was going to be running Cameron’s former company, what was your reaction to that?

Sharon: Oh, I was really happy. You know, to see Sharon back in the business world again is fun.  She did worka t Jabot and Newman back in the day for a while. And that’s fun because, you know, she gets to interact with a lot of other people while she’s at work.

Suzanne: Mm-hmm.

Sharon: Brad work there then, you know

Suzanne: Mm-hmm. I remember…

Sharon: That’s just fun. So I– I hope that Sharon being back in the business world again… that will give her cause to be at Jabot, or Newman or maybe employ several people at her office space.

Suzanne: Right. She was a psychologist, but they’ve kind of dropped that now, or….?

Sharon: Yeah, I think we’re getting less and less…going less and less with the psychology. And we did that for a few years.

Suzanne: Yeah.

Sharon: Well, you know, she’s changing careers, and going back to what she used to do.

Suzanne: Right, right, right. And, is there anything that Sharon hasn’t done on the show that you wish she would do?

Sharon: Let’s see…um…I don’t know, let’s see… I would like her to, uh…I can’t really think of anything, but you know, it would be fun if she were like a… I’ll come up with something.

Suzanne: Okay. You could be a stripper like Nikki!  I don’t know…

Sharon: Be a stripper like Nikki? No…. [Laughs]

Suzanne: Maybe she could get a split personality and become a stripper.

Sharon: Split personality would be phenomenal. I loved playing bipolar, that’s not quite the same, but a split personality would be a lot of fun, or a crazy twin sister.

Suzanne: I was gonna say evil twin would be the next thing.

Sharon: That would be great.

Suzanne: Well, and we know twins run in her family, so she had twins, so…

Sharon: That’s right, she did. She had Mariah and Cassie, and they were great.

Suzanne: Yeah, so she could have an evil twin out there she doesn’t even know about.

Sharon: That’s right.

Suzanne: And it would be a good way to bring her mom back, too.

Sharon: Yeah, or bring her mom back or her dad. Maybe she meets her dad, and her dad shows up in town with this child. This– well, not child anymore. You know. And Sharon is looking right at herself, she feels. It’s because it’s her twin sister.

Suzanne: Yeah, that would be great. You’d get to play evil for a while. That would be fun.

Sharon: Yeah, that would be good.

Suzanne: Yeah, or a vixen, what they used to call a vixen.

Sharon: Yeah, and she could be a real good vixen and real bad girl. She would do all kinds of bad things.

Suzanne: I could see– I could see that with Adam.

Sharon: Doing bad things?

Suzanne: Yeah. The twin– the evil twin with Adam.

Sharon: Oh, yeah, I see. Yeah. Yeah. I can see it, too.

Suzanne: So, I asked on Twitter and Facebook– Oh, (here’s a question I forgot to ask first) I know it’s not 2020 anymore, but are you still following a lot of COVID protocols on the set?

Sharon: You know, we do sometimes. Not, as regularly as we were… sometimes we’re masking, it’s sort of optional, and, the testing, we’re not doing it every single week, but we are still, at various intervals, doing testing.

Suzanne: Okay, did they ever have the thing that they had on GH for a while, where everyone had to get vaccinated?

Sharon: I think, no, I mean, they, they offered vaxxess here and they always have, not every year I guess, but there’s been a lot of years they’ve offered vaxxes here… flu vaxxess and things like that.

Suzanne: Right. But it wasn’t mandated or anything.

Sharon: Right.

Suzanne: Oh, okay. and so I went on Twitter and Facebook and asked fans if they had questions for you.

Sharon: Oh good! I hope they do!

Suzanne: They, oh yeah, there’s a lot. More than I can tell you in the time that we have. But, let’s see. Christine on Twitter, wanted to know who you would like to work with that you haven’t. A couple of other people asked the same thing.

Sharon: That I haven’t, um..

Suzanne: Or not much.

Sharon: You know, I haven’t a lot with, Trevor St. John, and we had a few coffee house scenes together. One day, that was it. It was so fun. I was hoping that we would– our characters would do more together.

Suzanne: Right, because you were kind of married for a while.

Sharon: We were kind of married for a while! Different actor, but I– you know, so it really works that this is someone from Sharon’s past. I find it, you know, interesting to play those scenes with that character because of that. And you know, working with Trevor is terrific.

Suzanne: I’m sure. Yeah. And, everybody hates him, so… his character (I mean), so that would be fun to see whether Sharon still didn’t like him, or liked him, felt that bad for him, or whatever. Yeah.

Sharon: You know, it’s a love-hate thing. I think, when you run into your ex-husband years ago, you get a zing from that.

Suzanne: Yeah. So, Heather wanted to know what your favorite storyline of all time was?

Sharon: Oh, my gosh. I have loved so many of  ’em. You know, the one we just mentioned: Sharon, posting Victor’s funeral. That was a really fun, if you haven’t seen that, hold that up somewhere on Twitter or on, I don’t know where else you can get it, but it

Suzanne: YouTube? YouTube, maybe?

Sharon: maybe. Yeah. On YouTube. Yeah. I’ve seen it on Twitter recently. That’s why I said that. But on YouTube, that is a really fun. And, you know, I have a lot of others [that] I’ve said many times are my favorites, like going into the sewer with Nikki and the rats, and Cassie’s death story. But I really want to start adding to it. I think my favorite scene was Sharon hosting Victor’s funeral.

Suzanne: And a different person named Christine, this one on Facebook, wanted to know your funniest blooper, either one you did or somebody else did.

Sharon: Oh, my gosh, there’s bloopers every day. There’s so many [scene ones?]. I just had a funny, almost-blooper, with Brytni [Sarpy] today, who plays Elena. We were doing a funny scene. She was supposed to exit and be gone. And then there’s the tag on Sharon watching a different character. And we were joking that Elena would, at the end, peek around the corner as if she has her eye on Sharon. And we just did a riff on this ridiculous that, Sharon and Elena, you know, she’s got her eye on her for some reason. And, we joked about it in rehearsal, so we did that in rehearsal. It’s not a blooper, necessarily. But it kind of is because it started out with Brytni actually making a mistake in her blocking!

Suzanne: Oh!

Sharon: That got us all laughing about this. There’s so many bloopers every day, you know?  Oh, I had one where I was– recently, I was in Society, and… I’m supposed to just put my purse, um, set it on my chair as I’m seated at Society, and the purse just kept falling.

Suzanne: Oh!

Sharon: Well, I’m trying to have a conversation in the scene, and I’m constantly fidgeting with my purse. I finally got that thing to stay. And, they didn’t have… they didn’t edit that into the show, so you won’t see that because it’s a blooper.

Suzanne: Ah.

Sharon: Another blooper is that when I finally got up to leave, I got up to grab the purse and go, and it was stuck. I couldn’t pull it out of the chair again. And I do wish that they would include these in the show.

Suzanne: Yeah, or [have] like a special blooper reel or something, or post it online… anything. Fans woul love to see those.

Sharon: Yeah, sure. I would love to see them, too. It’s fun.

Suzanne: Marilyn wants to know, what do you admire about your character? And what do you not admire about your character?

Sharon: You know what, I admire how brave she is, and what a go-getter she is now… You know, how positively she looks at life itself, and her life.  After everything she’s been through, she just keeps going, and has this positive energy and attitude that tomorrow’s another day, and she’s going to reinvent herself and become a businesswoman now, again, and a great mom, or she’s going to go crazy, but that’s okay. She’ll recover. She’s just got a great attitude.

Suzanne: Well, yeah, what’s great about being on the soap, especially for so long, it seems like you get to experience all these different things you don’t necessarily do in your real life.

Sharon: Right.

Suzanne: You get to go wild and crazy. You get to have kids, you know, married many times, all these different…

Sharon: You get to do a lot of fun stuff, but you know, she’s, I like her.. I don’t know, her optimism.

Suzanne: And is there anything you don’t admire about Sharon? You wish that she didn’t do?

Sharon: Let’s see. Hmm. I don’t think so. I think I’ve, I’ve pretty much really liked everything she’s done. Yeah.

Suzanne: Okay. And Faith says, “I really love some of the clothes and accessories you wear. Do you get a chance to decide what to wear and do you get a chance to purchase the clothing or accessories?”

Sharon: Well, that’s a good question. Wardrobe is very fun and very important. This, what I’m wearing right now is, from Sharon’s closet. I love Sharon’s clothes. I do get a say-so, somewhat, in what she’s going to wear. The costume department will buy a bunch of clothes, or they take them out from the store on, you know, I don’t know, they get to take them out temporarily.  Usually they give us the clothes for two or three days to try on so we have time to try these on. What they bring I try on, and I decide what I like, what I didn’t. And they do as well. They may have bought me some things from the store that once they see them on me, they don’t like them or anything. It’s just not right for the scene.  So we both decide, but yes, I do have a say-so as well, and if everything we don’t like gets sent back, and the things that we decide to keep, then the costumers decide which show, which episode, each costume might be right for.

Suzanne: Okay, and she said, do you get a chance to buy any of the clothes or accessories?

Sharon: Oh, no, no, no, I don’t get to buy them. I get to borrow them.

Suzanne: Oh.

Sharon: Yeah, they are… I don’t know why we just don’t really have a thing where we buy the clothes.. [from] CBS on some… We all borrow them and wear them to a function, you know, the anniversary party or, you know, like today I’m doing this interview, so I’m wearing Sharon’s clothes.

Suzanne: Nice. And, Teresa wanted to know if you’ve ever vacationed in Nashville. I assume she lives there.

Sharon: Oh, my gosh, I don’t think I have. I’ve been so many places. I have so many friends going to Nashville all the time, so I see a lot of it in photos. I don’t think that I have been in Nashville, but I’m gonna make it there one day, for sure.

Suzanne: You should. It’s a lot of fun. It’s a lot of fun.

Sharon: Seems like it.

Suzanne: And, Lori wants to know if you’re still designing your POMP jewelry.

Sharon: It was called pump, p-u-m-p, pump.

Suzanne: Oh, okay. Pump.

Sharon: P-O-M-P. Now I forgot that. While it’s been a while, it’s been a very long time. When did we close that? We closed it. I don’t– years ago, so no, we’re not still doing that.  It was me and my friend, Ella, who used to be the head of the costuming department here at Young and The Restless.

Suzanne: Okay.

Sharon: We’re good friends also in real life, so we designed and made this jewelry company together, but we closed it up quite a while ago. I’m not still doing it. I have some leftover spare pieces that I just kept that I like, that I wear. And, I think… you know, we have thought about bringing back just, not a whole line, but maybe like one or two pieces that were very popular. We’ll see.

Suzanne: Okay, and Marilyn again wants to know what made you want to be an actress.

Sharon: Gosh, I don’t think I did want to be one. I fell into it, and it ended up working out, and I eventually came to like it, so I stuck with it.  But I didn’t really plan to be. I was a dancer… I was a ballerina when I was a little girl, and I just thought I was always going to be a ballerina. But I started booking jobs as an actress because of that.

Suzanne: Oh, okay.

Sharon: Once I started working as a dancer, you start working as a model.  You start, you know, you just start branching out and getting… get offered a variety of things.

Suzanne: Mm-hmm.

Sharon: I’ve done hosting jobs for various shows in the past. You know,  I guess it’s just as a performer, you do a lot of different kinds of things, but I never did plan to be an actor. When I was in school, I didn’t go to acting school. I wasn’t in the drama class. I was in the play production class. I liked learning how to produce. And, I kind of thought, well, maybe I would do something in that regard.

Suzanne: Interesting. Do you have any pictures of yourself as a ballerina? If so, you should post them on Instagram.

Sharon: I know, I should. I do. I think I have some really, really bad ones. I did say, I just saved the ones that are most embarrassing. I have to take those out. I left them at my parents house.

Suzanne: Oh, those would be fun to see, though. I think everybody would enjoy seeing those.

Sharon: I know, it would be a good laugh, right?

Suzanne: Aw, no, because you’re probably, you think they’re terrible, but we’d probably go, Oh, look how cute she looks.

Sharon: I’m probably universal, universally terrible. But we’ve all seen that before, you know, pictures of us when we’re young and in a silly costume. But that was fun. That’s what kids do.

Suzanne: So you didn’t like being an actress when you first started? Is that what you kind of said there?

Sharon: I didn’t really. You know, I wasn’t trained at first as an actress, so I didn’t really know what I was doing.  I found it difficult and, you know, it’s hard to enjoy doing something that you don’t feel you’re good at or you’re nervous about. But then I eventually did go to acting school. I, you know, I thought, wow, if I’m going to keep doing this and booking jobs, doing this, I’m, I better go to school for this, get training.  Maybe that’ll make a difference. And I think it did.

Suzanne: Okay, great. And, so, those are all my questions, but is there anything else… are you allowed to tell us anything, about the upcoming weeks or episodes?

Sharon: Well, I can’t give away story, you know, because I’m– I don’t know why they make us…

Suzanne: Spoilers.

Sharon: I wish we could. Yeah, that’s frowned on around here. Very unpopular.

Suzanne: Yeah.

Sharon: I can’t do that. But there is, you know, the stuff that’s aired already keeps going. We know that Sharon has this company, Kirsten, and that keeps rolling, as far as I know, for the time being. And Sharon and Chance and Summer are, you know, doing whatever they’re doing.  I will see what direction that heads in. But that is something that Sharon has going. And then also, Sharon is helpful and supportive with Mariah and Tessa and their baby and her medical situation with her hearing. So that that’s coming up here and there, too.

Suzanne: Okay, and, you mentioned Chance. Now, your characters had random sex back in July.

Sharon: I know!

Suzanne: And then that was kind of the end of it, right?

Sharon: And now we don’t have sex anymore, I guess. Well, at least not on camera. Right?

Suzanne: Yeah. At least as far as we know.

Sharon: We assume they must be doing that.

Suzanne: Yeah, I thought maybe they were putting him and Summer together…?

Sharon: Maybe, I don’t know.

Suzanne: Slowly. But now I’m thinking you and Nick, so I don’t know. Maybe it’s a quadrangle. I don’t know. .

Sharon: Well, that would be interesting. But, you know, that would be going, out, you know, into the future too far where I don’t even know… I haven’t asked.

Suzanne: Ah.

Sharon: And so I don’t know ultimately what’s gonna happen. Sharon and Chance, Sharon and Nick, or Summer and Chance. I, I don’t know. But  it’s been fun working with all of them.

Suzanne: Yeah, I’m sure.

Sharon: I’m having a nice time.

Suzanne: Yeah. Anything else you’d like to tell your fans?

Sharon: Let’s see. Well, thank you all so much for tuning in and staying with us all these years and for all of your comments, and thank you for asking me questions for this interview today.

Suzanne: Oh, my pleasure.

Sharon: The fans asked questions. You too, Suzanne. Thank you.

[Both laugh]

Suzanne: We’re all happy. We’re all fans, and we’re all happy to talk to you.

Sharon: I love when I get asked questions from the fans and they post a question for my interview. It means a lot to me that people were paying attention or wanted to participate or hear something from me.  It means a lot. Thank you all.

Suzanne: All right. Well, thanks so much for talking to me today. I really appreciate it. And I look forward to seeing what else Sharon gets up to, and I hope they give you one of those special standalone episodes for your 30th anniversary, like they’ve done before with Michael. And I don’t remember who else… Victor.

Sharon: That’s a great idea.  Yeah. We haven’t done one of those in a while. Yeah, that would be fun. That would be a lot of work, too.

Suzanne: Yeah. All right. Thank you so much.

Sharon: Thank you. All right. Bye.

Suzanne: Bye. Bye.

Jack: Mamie, do you know how happy it makes me to see you like this?

Mamie: Like what? Energized? Strong? A woman on top of the world?

Jack: Yeah, that about covers it. You forgot to mention beautiful as ever.

Mamie: Oh, no, I didn’t. I just paused so you could say it.

*******************

Mamie: Okay. I’ll tell you, but only because I remember how you used to pout whenever you thought people were keeping secrets from you.

Jack: Wait. I didn’t pout.

Mamie: Yeah, you keep on telling yourself that. I bought out a private investor and I now have a major stake in chancellor-winters.

Nick: I highly doubt my brother regretted anything. He took advantage of the fact that I was gone.

Sally: No, no.

Nick: Hey, nick’s out of town. Let me real quick try and seduce sally and see if I can convince her to dump him and get back with me.

Sally: No, nick, that’s not what happened.

Nick: That is exactly what happened. This is how my brother operates. It’s who he is.

Sally: He really did seem to feel bad afterward.

Nick: I highly doubt that. So what? He kissed you, then what?

Sally: What? What– what do you mean?

Nick: What did he say? Did he say anything else? Like uh, that he still loved you or he thought the two of you still belonged together?

****************************

Victor: I assume you’re implying that I should be worried about your sister?

Adam: Yes. I mean, that was– that was quite an act she put on earlier. Suddenly pleasant and rational. No issues at all. I mean, you saw right through that, right?

Victor: You know I’m not worried about anyone. Not your sister, not Nate, not you.

Adam: Well, then you are not looking closely enough.

Victor: I run this damn place. If any problem should raise its ugly head, I’ll excise it.

Adam: Gonna nip it?

Victor: Anyone who is disloyal to me or to Newman enterprises.

Adam: Good morning, boss. I, uh, took the liberty of ordering you some coffee. Should be out soon.

Nate: Adam, thank you for coming.

Adam: Mm-hmm. Uh, I pride myself on being on time. Early even. And as your new assistant, I await your command.

Nate: Hm, I thought it best we discuss how this is going to work moving forward.

Adam: Sure thing, you’re in charge. Um, now how do you take your coffee? Cream, sugar? And is there a paper that you read first thing in the morning?

Nate: The attitude isn’t necessary. And it’s not gonna work with me.

[ Adam clears throat ] I asked you here because I’d like to set some ground rules and expectations, so there are no misunderstandings later.

Adam: Mm.

[ Adam chuckles ] You must be in heaven.

Nate: I’m not sure what you mean.

Adam: Having this much power over me. It’s thrilling, isn’t it?

*************

Nick: Here’s a thought. Why don’t we just give up all these dreams and plans we have for all these other businesses and just do nothing? Seriously, we just hang out with each other. Live off love and, uh, spoil each other rotten.

Sally: Well, we might wear each other out pretty quickly.

Nick: Are you questioning my stamina?

[ Sally chuckles ]

Sally: Never. Mm-mm. No, I’m just saying that we both have to work. I mean, I don’t think either of us would last more than a week without a sense of purpose.

Nick: So, our connection isn’t purpose enough? Wow. Okay, well, it is for me.

Sally: What has gotten into you?

Nick: I don’t know. I just– I woke up this morning and I was just really, really grateful that I get to wake up next to you. I really missed you.

Billy: I can tell you exactly what you can do. You can leave genoa city for good and not turn back.

Traci: Well, you will die wondering.

[ Both laughing ]

Jack: Everything all right?

Diane: Uh, not really. It’s noon and my dress for this afternoon should be here by now. At my alterations, I– I had very little to do, so I really don’t know what the hold up is.

Jack: Okay. It will be here, I promise. No one is more responsible than lauren.

Traci: Wait, you got your dress from lauren? Not one of the marchetti designers?

Diane: Yes, I saw it and I fell in love. I wasn’t thinking about the fact that phyllis happens to be lauren’s best friend.

Traci: Oh, that’s why you’re so nervous. You’re afraid that phyllis is going to sabotage your wedding celebration.

[ Both sighing ]

Lauren: Can I please have a latte? Just a splash of vanilla? Thank you.

Phyllis: I wanted you here because you are a crucial part of me being in this place, so.

Lauren: Me? How?

Phyllis: Because you were there for me and you supported me. You never gave up, even though I put you through a lot.

[ Lauren sighs ]

Lauren: Well, I love you more than I could ever be mad at you. And michael as well.

Phyllis: You’re an incredible friend. You stood by me when I never thought I was gonna get out of this mess. And you put your arms around me and you kept on telling me, “it’s gonna be okay.” And michael too. Ah, you two– you two are the best friends in every sense of the word.

Lauren: We always will be.

[ Phyllis chuckles ]

Phyllis: Champagne.

Lauren: Yes.

[ Both chuckling ]

Phyllis: Hey. [ Chuckles ]

Lauren: Oh.

Phyllis: Oh, wow. Please don’t tell me that’s what I think it is.

[ Phyllis scoffs ]

Sometimes, the lows

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Lauren: Oh, thank you. If you think this is diane’s dress for her and jack’s wedding reception, you’re right.

Phyllis: Wow. This is unbelievable. You’re one of my best friends, lauren, and you are dressing diane in something from fenmore’s collection? I mean, just stick a knife in my back.

Lauren: All right, before you nail me to the wall anymore, you know I would never do anything for diane. You know me better than that. But jack called, he asked for a favor. What was I supposed to do? I– I love you both.

Phyllis: Okay. Well, what did you give jack? The dunce cap?

[ Lauren sighs ]

Lauren: You know, I have an idea for you. If you are selling this brand new me quest to your friends and family, why don’t you try and let go of this jack and diane thing?

Phyllis: Diane, no chance.

[ Lairen sighs ]

Lauren: Well, unfortunately, for better or worse, she’s who he wants to be with.

Phyllis: Okay, great. Listen, everybody thinks I’m a bad person. I get it, I get it, I get it, I get it, okay. It doesn’t make diane any less horrible. And by you doing this, I mean, you’re just cheering them on. “Hey, jack, I’ll dress up your bride to look like a princess while you walk down the path of misery.” I mean–

Lauren: You have no idea how hard this was for me.

Phyllis: Oh, really. They shouldn’t be getting married at all. You know that.

Lauren: You’re not planning on blowing up this reception, are you? Are you?

Traci: Oh, diane. Look, we all know that phyllis is phyllis and right now, she’s phyllis on probation. So, one false move and she finds herself behind bars. Look, after all she has been through, and after all she’s put her children through, she is not going to sabotage anything.

Diane: I’m sure she can find a way to ruin things without technically breaking any laws, if she puts her mind to it.

Jack: Only she won’T. She knows she’s already in trouble with the abbotts after this scheming with tucker. She’s not gonna pour gasoline on the fire.

Diane: Except she’s a walking fire hazard.

Jack: She’s not going to risk our telling daniel and summer what she’s been up to with tucker.

Traci: Besides, friend or no friend, lauren would never let that happen.

Jack: Exactly.

Diane: All right. Those are all valid points, but still–

[ Traci sighs ]

Traci: Relax, diane, please. I promise you, the dress will be here any minute. And it will be perfection. And you and jack will have a beautiful afternoon surrounded by people who care about you.

Jack: Hey, I don’t know where you’re off to, but please make sure you’re back in time for the reception.

Kyle: Yeah. Yeah, right. Um, that’s today?

Jack: Please tell me you’re joking.

Kyle: I am. But I do have a question.

Diane: What is it?

Kyle: Can I bring a date?

Tucker: I didn’t think it was possible, but you might even be more mercenary than I thought.

Billy: Might be offended by that if I actually care what you think, but just for fun, huh? Why don’t you tell me what you mean by that?

Tucker: Well, we both know that you would have thrown jack to the wolves if it meant taking over jabot yourself. And yet here you are working side by side with him to drive me out of town. If you don’t like mercenary, how about opportunistic, self-serving?

Billy: Hm. Not that I have to explain myself to you, but I’m just going to be very clear. I have only one objective, one objective, only, tucker.

Tucker: World peace?

Billy: It’s the same objective I’ve always had. Then, now, and in the future. That’s to protect my family and my father’s legacy. It’s not that complicated.

Tucker: Yeah. You sound just like ashley. I swear to god, sometimes I wonder what you abbotts really are. A family or a cult? Did you guys remember career day last year?

Traci: Um, sorry. Uh-oh. Uh-oh. Minor napkin emergency. Please excuse me while I handle this.

Jack: Thanks you, sis.

Diane: Um, kyle, when you say bring a date, are you thinking of inviting audra?

Kyle: No, no, mom. You know, audra’s not an option. Things have cooled off between us.

Jack: Well, that’s probably for the best, right?

Kyle: And why is that?

Jack: Well, you and I both know that was leading nowhere. It was a tryst to avoid the pain of your breakup with summer. I’m not judging. I’m just saying it happens.

Kyle: And so you keep saying, and for the 1000th time, you were wrong. Look, audra and I were having fun, which I definitely needed. Was it an escape from reality? Sure. Did I enjoy that there was some kind of clandestine element to it? Absolutely. But I really wish you would stop looking at it as some misguided tortured meltdown.

Jack: Okay. I’m sorry. I– I will try not to bring it up again.

Diane: Yes. Actually, your father and I were hoping that you and summer would give the appearance of attending together for harrison’s sake. That way he could at least see you pretending to get along.

Kyle: Believe it or not, we wouldn’t have to pretend, we really have been lately.

Jack: Well, good for you both.

Diane: Yeah. That’s a good first step.

Kyle: Mom, it’s not a first step. It is the only step. And nothing has changed. Summer and I are not getting back together, okay?

Phyllis: How could I blow up jack and diane’s party? I’m not even gonna be there.

Lauren: So, that’s a no?

Phyllis: I’d spend the whole time dry-heaving at the sight of diane.

Lauren: Oh, that’s a lovely visual. Look, I really hope you mean it because I’m not gonna be able to be there to supervise you. I’ve got to go to chicago on an emergency business trip.

Phyllis: You want me to deliver the dress?

Lauren: Oh, that’s so lovely, honey. Yes, and I’m gonna give you some matches and some lighter fluid. No, I’m not gonna let you deliver diane’s dress. Chloe’s gonna get here, hopefully soon, and do it for me. All right. So, besides this reception drama, how are you? When do you start working with daniel?

Phyllis: Oh, mm. It’s not finalized.

Lauren: But you’re happy about it? And you don’t wish you were still working with nick and sharon, do you?

Phyllis: Well, I don’t know. My son made it– um, he just said that I would be under the microscope the whole time I was working at omegasphere, so.

Lauren: Do you blame him? I mean, you’ve got a long way to go with him, honey.

Phyllis: I know. I know. I just can’t help but think that him offering me the job is sort of a pity gesture.

Lauren: Pity?

Phyllis: Mm-hmm.

Lauren: He’s throwing you a life raft. You should be grateful that he’s throwing you one at all after everything that you put him and summer through. Oh, thank god you’re here. Diane’s probably wondering where her dress is and is about to have a panic attack.

Phyllis: That’d be horrible.

Lauren: Uh, okay. I have a plane to catch. Thank you. Um, keep the garment bag away from her and–

Chloe: You know, you can count on me.

Lauren: Thank you. You promised, no trouble. No fireworks, please.

Phyllis: Yeah, no problem. See you later.

Lauren: Okay. Yes, you will. All right. Talk to you later.

Chloe: Bye. Later, phyllis. You know that feeling of having to rewash dishes

Billy: Well, it’s been real, and just so you know, don’t even think about crashing the festivities this afternoon.

Tucker: Are there festivities? Oh, I love a good party. Where and what time do you want me there?

Billy: This party’s off-limits to you. And I’ll be keeping an eye out and I’ll be monitoring the airspace because we both know you like a little helicopter landing. You know, tucker, you think you’re smarter than, oh, everyone on this planet, but only a fool would think that.

[ Tucker sighs ]

[ Piano music playing ]

Danny: Hey.

Phyllis: Hi. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt. Keep on playing. It’s beautiful.

Danny: Thanks.

[ Piano music playing ]

[ Diane sighs ]

Diane: Okay, kyle. I am not going to bother you about your personal life anymore. All right? I just– I just want you to be happy. I just want you to wake up with a sense of purpose and– and have a reason to get out of bed each morning.

Jack: I second that.

Kyle: Thank you. I know you both mean that, I really do.

Jack: And I am just curious, um, when you said you wanted to bring a date and you said audra was not a possibility, were you thinking of someone else?

Kyle: Uh, you know what, forget about it. It’s too early to introduce harrison to a stranger, especially at a family celebration.

Jack: Well, I’m glad you feel that way because your mother and I were hoping we could keep you a little busier at this reception than perhaps you planned. We have a favor to ask.

Kyle: Sure. What is it?

Diane: Well, jack came up with the idea at dinner last night that since all of our family and friends will be here today, that we would, um, renew our vows.

Jack: And we would be honored if you would agree to officiate. My late father-in-law lit up a room,

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

Kyle: You’d be honored for me to officiate your vow renewal? I– I’m honored you would even ask me, I mean, yes, yes, of course.

Diane: Oh, good. Thank you. Oh, thank you.

Kyle: Oh, I’ll get it.

[ Door clicks open ] Hi.

Chloe: Hi. So, lauren had an emergency. She had to head over to fenmore’s in chicago. She is so sorry, she is sending along her apologies, she– she’s really sorry that she couldn’t make it.

Jack: Oh, we’re sorry she won’t make it, but believe me, we understand.

Chloe: And I am so sorry that I am extremely late.

[ Laughs ] You know, kids. Um, actually, it wasn’t the kids, it was me, I feel like I shouldn’t blame them.

Diane: No, no, no, no apologies necessary. I have to admit, I was getting a little crazy imagining all kinds of scenarios, but yes, that’s my dress, and it’s still stunning. Ugh! I really appreciate you bringing it by.

Chloe: I was happy to do it.

Diane: Yeah, and all things considered, it was really generous of lauren to let me, of all people, wear one of her designs.

Chloe: Oh, of all people?

Diane: Well, given that she and phyllis are so close, I’m sure I’m not at the top of lauren’s “let’s be friends” list.

Chloe: Oh, well, you know who is at the top of that list? This guy. Jack is basically one of her favorite people in the whole world and she was not going to pass up the chance to make his day extra special.

Jack: Lauren also knows how happy you make me. And as long as that’s the case, as long as you don’t get tired of me, she is always going to be in full support of us being a family again.

[ Piano playing ]

[ Danny chuckles ]

Danny: All right, you know what, that’s it. I have been working on this bridge for hours. I can’t get it right. I gotta take a break.

Phyllis: Uh, I didn’t mean to interrupt, although, my timing’s perfect. Can I buy you a drink? A glass of your driest rose, please. Oh, thank you. What would you like, danny?

Danny: Oh, no, thanks. I’m good.

Phyllis: Are you sure?

Danny: Yeah, I better not. I’m meeting daniel for a late lunch.

Phyllis: Ah. Hey, um, be honest with me. How much does daniel hate me?

Danny: Well, I think “hate” is a pretty strong word. He will always love you, phyllis, always.

Phyllis: You sure about that?

Danny: Absolutely, he just doesn’t trust you.

Phyllis: Okay. [ Laughs ] That’s understandable.

Danny: Yep, and he’s definitely disappointed.

Phyllis: Does he understand how hard I’m working at turning things around? Does he get it? Thank you.

Danny: I think he does, and he really hopes you can. But I really see him struggling to be civil with you because of what you put him and summer through, and it’s a real shame, you know? It makes him sad. Hell, it makes me sad.

Phyllis: You know what makes me sad? Is how much I am judged… and hated by people in this town. People who claimed they loved me. Everybody in this town has made mistakes. But, for some reason, nobody’s willing to give me the benefit of the doubt. That makes me sad.

Jack: Hey.

Billy: There’s the man of the hour. I hope everything went smoothly this morning.

Jack: As a matter of fact, believe it or not, it has gone smoothly. I assume your brunch with the new head of r&d went well?

Billy: It did, she’s great. Super talented. I think she’s gonna be a great asset for us. In fact, I had a wonderful morning, and then I ran into tucker.

Jack: Why is he still in town?

Billy: I don’t know, but he made it very clear that he’s not going anywhere anytime soon. By the way, I’m going to forward you an email.

Jack: What is it?

Billy: Confirmation that I returned all the funds into jabot’s account after supposedly embezzling them.

Jack: I don’t need to see that, I trust you.

Billy: Either way, it’s there, but thank you for that.

Jack: It is such a classic tucker mccall scheme, I’m surprised we didn’t see it coming. And him pulling phyllis into it, as vulnerable as she is these days, couldn’t have been too much of a challenge.

Billy: I don’t think that was a challenge at all.

Jack: Billy, I hope you know, I didn’t doubt you, not for a second, when those jabot funds disappeared. I– I hope you know that.

Billy: Jack, those funds went into my personal account, okay? It’s only natural to assume I had something to do with it.

Jack: Not anymore.

Phyllis: It’s like everybody in this town sees me as this person that I’m not. Do you know what I mean? Well, that I’m not anymore. You know, they see me as the she-devil that… chews men up and spits them out. Devour souls and ruins lives.

Danny: Do you have any idea how many people would love nothing more than to trust you and give you the benefit of the doubt? Yeah. They could’ve walked away, but they didn’t, they’re still here. They’re still pulling for you. Even me.

Phyllis: Even you? After everything I did to you? The lies, seduction… drugs… sex. You should feel flattered.

[ Danny laughs ]

Danny: Wait, f– flattered?

Phyllis: Yeah.

Danny: I’m sorry, how do you figure?

Phyllis: I don’t know.

[ Laughs ] Because– I don’t know, there are four billion men on this planet and you’re the one that I decided to do that to. So, you should be flattered.

Danny: That– that’s right. Yeah, absolutely, no. Thank you for the compliment, really.

[ Phyllis laughs ]

Phyllis: I’m kidding. I mean, you’re welcome, but I’m kidding.

[ Danny chuckles ]

Danny: But you see what I mean? I’m still here. Daniel’s still here. Summer’s still here. There’s so many people that are still here that haven’t given up on you.

[ Phyllis sighs ]

Phyllis: They’ve come close.

Danny: Close doesn’t count. Now, all we need is some proof that we can trust you rather than having to take your word for it and find out later. “Nope wrong, sorry, maybe, next time.”

Phyllis: That sounds lovely. I just– I don’t know where to start, where do I start?

Danny: With you, phyllis. With presenting a positive attitude, okay? Instead of this “woe is me” posture that you’ve been carrying around for as long as I’ve known you. Making you happy isn’t anyone else’s job. This is your job and you know what? Happiness doesn’t come from somewhere out there, it comes from right here.

Phyllis: Oh, my god. You really are sunshine and roses. So, you’re saying that it’s that simple? In life, I just find a silver lining.

Danny: That’s how it works.

Phyllis: That’s how it works.

Danny: Mm-hmm.

Phyllis: That sounds exhausting. [ Laughs ]

Danny: You know, you say things like that because it’s clever and witty. But it’s just distracting from what’s really going on with you. You scoff at any suggestion anyone makes that just might help you turn this thing around.

Phyllis: All right, so you say that I should just go through life and pretend that everything’s great? And I could just take on any challenge that comes along because I’m phyllis summers? And I choose my own happiness? Is that your advice?

Danny: I don’t want you to pretend it, I want you to feel it. And not for daniel, for summer, me or anyone else. You have to do this for you. Stop looking for someone else to fix this. Feel good about yourself. Start believing in yourself and you’d be amazed how quickly people start believing in you too.

Jack: I suppose it’s too much to ask that when you saw tucker, he was checking out the athletic club and heading to the airport.

Billy: No such luck. He did say that he was going to back off of his plan to come after jabot and I was very clear when I said backing off is not abandoning.

Jack: Even if he had said “abandoning–”

Billy: Which I pointed out.

Jack: Yeah, but I still don’t trust him. In the unlikely event he does give up on jabot, why would he stay in genoa city?

Billy: He didn’t want to turn his back on dom and devon, his beloved son and grandson. Whatever.

Jack: Wow. How touching.

Billy: Which is exactly why I think we should have kept working to turn devon against tucker in the first place.

Jack: We have already been through this, that was the wrong move.

Billy: No, it was one we disagreed on.

Jack: And we still do.

Billy: Enough said.

Jack: End of discussion.

Billy: Mm-hmm. End of discussion.

Jack: Thank you. Now, all we have to worry about is keeping tucker from blowing up this celebration.

Billy: He claimed to know nothing about it.

Jack: You believe him?

Billy: Hell no.

Jack: Good.

Billy: Believe me, I’m gonna keep my eye on him.

Jack: Mm– I don’t want you doing this.

Billy: No, I want to do that.

Jack: I want you being part of this celebration. Enjoying everyone together.

Billy: Jack, I’m gonna enjoy keeping him on the outside. Trust me, and with his flair for dramatic, I’m gonna have to watch out for helicopters, swat team, plague of locusts.

Jack: Let tucker mccall be the security team’s problem. I am sick and tired of this man and his drama invading my thoughts and my family life.

Billy: Believe me, I’m sick of him in general.

Jack: He does not deserve another moment of time or energy or thought. Today is about love and romance and celebrating together. I want it to be perf– perfect.

Is it menopause

or something else?

Jack: You look like an angel.

Diane: I feel like a queen.

Phyllis: So, are you gonna finish that song or what?

Danny: [ Chuckles ] Yeah. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Come on. Yeah. Come on. Have a seat.

Phyllis: Yeah?

Danny: Yeah. Have a seat. All right. Let’s give it a go.

[ Piano melody playing ]

Phyllis: Yay.

Danny: That’s it. That is the bridge that I’ve been struggling with all morning. So seriously, what do you think?

Phyllis: Oh, I think it’s amazing, I love it.

Danny: I like it too. Hey, thanks for the inspiration.

Phyllis: You’re welcome. Thank you… for being so empathetic and compassionate with me.

Danny: Well, I figured when you find someone who’s down and they sincerely want to stand back up, you don’t kick them, you offer them a hand.

[ Both chuckling ]

Tucker: We have a bigger problem anyway, and you will need to help me solve it.

Audra: Will I? What are you talking about?

Tucker: The damn singer. The evidence that adam got his hands on, the pr team’s cover-up, or our cover-up, or their cover-up.

Audra: Wait. How can that be? Adam was supposed to destroy those incriminating emails.

Tucker: Apparently, he decided to go a different route.

Audra: What did he do?

Tucker: He sold it to the abbotts.

Audra: Interesting.

Tucker: Yeah, it’s not the word I would use, but…

Audra: Well, big picture aside, and I guess adam has ruined your plans to go after jabot. What are you gonna do now?

[ Tucker sighs ]

Kyle: But it’ll be fun.

Traci: And wait, so you’re gonna officiate, today?

Kyle: Yeah.

Traci: That’s so romantic.

Kyle: A little last minute, but I can pull it off.

Traci: I love that, that’s fantastic.

Kyle: I have a few tricks up my sleeve, let’s step over here, come on.

[ Traci chuckling ] Summer, has harrison settled down yet?

Summer: Uh, not a chance. The nanny’s gonna take him to the park to see if that helps, he’s– he’s a little overexcited.

Traci: Yes, I noticed that and I can’t imagine where that came from.

Kyle: Neither can I. I was a very laid-back child.

Traci: [ Laughing ] You’re not buying any of this, are you?

Summer: Not for a second.

Traci: Good. Good.

[ All laughing ]

Kyle: But seriously, thank you for checking in on them.

Summer: It’s my pleasure. You know that. Uh, excuse me, I’m gonna go get a glass of champagne.

Chance: Thank you.

Sharon: Cheers.

Jack: Could I please have your attention? First of all, welcome. And thank you for being part of this celebration of love and family and friends. As a side note for any naysayers still among us, my bride and i ask that you look into our eyes this afternoon and see for yourself just how genuine, how strong, how powerful our love story is.

[ All cheering, applauding ]

Announcer: Next week on the young and the restless…

Phyllis: Wait, does christine still hold a special place in your heart, even now?

Danny: Of course, she does.

Heather: I’ve decided to wrap up my law practice in europe and move back home.

Daniel: Are you thinking of going back to savannah?

Heather: No, we’re moving here, genoa city.

Nick: I absolutely hate it that adam is manipulating you. It’s just adam. He’s always going to be him and it’s clearly affecting you. I can’t go through this again.

Sally: What are you saying?

Tucker: I just don’t want any more chaos in my life. Just peace and quiet.

Devon: Well, I hope that’s true.

Tucker: You can count on it.

Devon: I have another question for you. What’s your connection to aunt mamie?

Jack: Wow. You are a vision. How did I get so lucky?

Diane: You look at me like that and I start to blush. Wow, you’ve really outdone yourself, I can’t– I can’t wait to see what’s next.

Jill: Yeah, it’s just fabulous.

Mamie: Oh, it is. Look, I have an opportunity to be a strong presence in the life of my family again. Which is what I was just about to tell them when you flew in here.

Lily: Jill, I know that you two haven’t always gotten along, but we have missed aunt mamie so much.

Nate: It has been away too long since we’ve had her here. Video chats aren’t enough.

Mamie: Oh, my honeys. I’m really so happy to be able to connect with you too, being able to see you here, in person. Oh, come on, jill. Life is so fragile. I want to be with my family. I want to cheer them on, wanna watch them grow. We have to make up for the lost time, yeah?

[ All laughs ]

Jill: This is such a crock. There is something else going on underneath all this and I want to know what the hell it is.

Jill: Let’s be very clear here, mamie. There was no opportunity for you to invest in chancellor-winters. We weren’t looking for investors, you know. We were very happy as we are, right, devon, lily? Am I missing something here? Did we invite anyone in?

Devon: No, we did not.

Jill: So, it seems that this was a back alley deal. Something we should have been made aware of beforehand. And victor, god love victor. He was a silent, minority partner, who to my knowledge, had no desire at all to sell his stake to others and he certainly didn’t need the cash, so why? Why would he put up his stake for grabs?

[ Mamie chuckles ] Did you have any involvement in this?

Victoria: What? No. Absolutely not, I didn’t know until recently that my father was even interested in chancellor-winters. But that transaction wasn’t under my purview.

Abby: Me? No, no, no. I mean, everyone knows that I am totally out of the loop with everything happening at newman or any decision that my dad makes. It’s better that way, I think it makes life easier most of the time.

Jill: So why, mamie? Why all the secrecy, huh? Why the hand grenade disguised as a happy surprise?

Mamie: Oh, jill, you really love making something out of nothing. Like I made some kind of back alley deal.

Lily: Well, aunt mamie, you kind of have to admit, it was out of the blue. I mean, you were just here for the bicentennial gala. Why didn’t you tell us then that you had an interest in chancellor-winters or even right after that?

Mamie: Oh, sweetheart, I love it when you, all of you call me aunt mamie. I really miss being a regular part of your lives. I mean, isn’t that enough right there to explain all of this?

Devon: Sure, but you didn’t have to invest in the company to spend more time with us.

Nate: No one’s upset, aunt mamie. We’re all just surprised, but I think things are coming out a bit harsher than anyone means, right? It’s a loving gesture, you wanting to make the family close again. I think we can all appreciate that. We’ve been through a lot together this past year.

Devon: Yeah, we certainly have, and I can definitely appreciate you wanting to get the family together like this, but you need to know that he is not a part of chancellor-winters. He speaks for himself. He doesn’t speak for me and lily.

Lily: Yeah, devon is right. Because of nate, we are very wary of family making secret moves when it comes to the company.

Mamie: And that is exactly why I’m here. I want to make sure that we can put all of this animosity behind us. That is what drucilla and neil would want too. Life is just so short and it’s really precious. You know, love and family matter above all else. So, that’s why I’m here. Perhaps, I can help you to remember that.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Diane: Thank you for this. This special moment, just the two of us.

Jack: I asked abby if I could pay to close the place tonight for a private party. I waited ’til she said yes before I told her it was a private party for two. The place is all ours.

Diane: It’s amazing. You’re amazing.

[ Soft jazz music playing ]

Jack: May I have this dance?

Diane: I would love to dance with you. I can’t believe I’m– I’m a little nervous about tomorrow.

Jack: Nervous? Really?

Diane: Yeah, I know it’s just the icing on the wedding cake, but still, I’ve got pre-wedding nerves even though we’ve been married months.

Jack: You know what? I think that’s a good thing.

Diane: Yeah.

Jack: Anticipation and nervousness and eagerness. I mean, I think it’s a great thing after everything we’ve been through.

Diane: Yeah.

Jack: And we have been through a lot, you and I.

Diane: Mm, I think back to those days when my life was so empty, and now, my days have purpose. But loving you feels like the most natural thing in the world, but I don’t know if I’ll ever get used to feeling so lucky. I mean, for– for so long, I– I don’t know, I felt like I didn’t deserve happiness. And now, this.

Jack: And now this.

Diane: And now this.

Jack: So, I’ve been thinking, what if we took it a step farther. What if we found someone to officiate our marriage at the beginning of the celebration? We could say our vows all over again.

Diane: Ah, jack, we don’t need to do that.

Jack: In front of our family and friends. I want them to know how committed we are. I want them to know this is for keeps.

Diane: Yeah, but the people who don’t support us might never be convinced.

Jack: So, you’re turning me down?

Diane: Never.

Jack: Okay. We will seize the day. We will share our love with everyone that’s gathered there.

Diane: All right. I’m on board, let’s do it.

[ Jack chuckles ]

Mamie: We have both grown and moved on since our time together at the abbott house. I think that john and mrs. Chancellor and your son, billy, would want us to have peace, not conflict. What do you think, victoria?

Victoria: Well, I– I know that the element of surprise might be unsettling, but ultimately, you are a part of the winters family and this is chancellor-winters.

Jill: Forgive me, victoria, but you have no skin in this game and I have a lifetime.

Mamie: And you want to spend the rest of what we have of our lifetimes bickering?

Jill: You never miss an opportunity to throw my words back at me. Some things never change.

Mamie: Some things never do. Like you thinking that your feelings are the only ones that count. Well, they aren’T.

[ Mamie sighs ] When I was here a few months back, I could see that lily and devon’s relationship had frayed. What do I do, do I lean in, do I help them, do I become the elder that they need to help them build the family legacy? Do what john would do.

Jill: Why do you keep bringing john into this? Oh, I get it. She does that to make me out to be the shrew who didn’t deserve him. This is not about john. It’s not about me, and spare me your heartfelt explanations. Start telling the truth, mamie, for god’s sake. Why? Why did you take over victor’s investment in chancellor-winters?

Mamie: Early on, victor told me about the threat of the company going public. I didn’t want to see that happen, particularly not when the family was so disconnected.

Lily: Well, we definitely appreciate that, but this recent development has caught us off guard.

Mamie: Whether I approached victor or he approached me, it doesn’t really matter.

Jill: The hell it doesn’T. You went to him. That means you were playing an angle. That means you have a goal in mind.

Mamie: And what goal would that be?

Jill: I have no idea. Maybe just to piss me off. Okay, let’s get down to brass tacks, okay? How much is it gonna take to buy you out?

[ Mamie chuckles ] Wowwww… boring. With over 40 delicious flavors, cirkul starts a party for your taste buds. No sugar, no calories, and no artificial flavors. Cirkul. It’s your water, your way. Now with even more flavors. Available at walmart or drinkcirkul.Com.

Mamie: My stake is not for sale, jill. It’s a sound investment.

Jill: Really? So, there’s no number that you would accept?

Mamie: No, actually, there isn’T. I have faith that lily and devon can take things to the next level at chancellor-winters.

Jill: Oh, well, I do too. We’re in agreement on that.

Mamie: I just want to further support their efforts and if that includes you, well then, so be it.

Jill: Wait a minute. Includes me? Includes me? I am the chancellor in chancellor-winters.

Mamie: Can we please stop talking about business tonight?

Abby: Yes, please. I am all for that.

Mamie: This evening is supposed to be a lovely reunion in a room that has meaning for all of us.

Lily: I agree. I think that dad would want us to enjoy being together and not let business get in the way.

Mamie: Amen, so let’s raise a glass and toast. To family, friends, and togetherness.

Nate: Hear, hear. Cheers.

Mamie: Thank you, nate.

Devon: Here’s the family.

Abby: Family.

Mamie: Jill, you are welcome to stay for the festivities, but you have got to stop going on about my intentions.

Lily: Jill, please stay. We have so much to be thankful for.

Jill: Wow, none of you really knows what’s going on here, do you?

Victoria: Uh, well, it certainly is a room full of big personalities.

Devon: And regardless, I am happy that we’re still a private company and we don’t have to answer to wall street or shareholders.

Lily: I’m just happy that we can all be together in person, especially with everything going on.

Jill: You know, I will stay because I have a very strong feeling that we’ve only heard part of the story.

[ Mamie sighs, laughs ]

Diane: I could stay like this all night.

Jack: Yeah?

Diane: Yeah.

Jack: We have to eat sometime and I did arrange for a pretty special, uh, pre-celebration dinner.

Diane: Hm. You take such good care of me, jack abbott.

Jack: You are my greatest source of joy.

Diane: To our love and to our family. So, do you think kyle will stand up with you tomorrow as your best man? He didn’t even bother to show up at our civil ceremony.

Jack: Oh, I think he was blindsided when we asked him on our way to the courthouse.

Diane: Well, tomorrow will be a surprise too, but I– I do want him next to you.

Jack: Well, I think he struggled with the concept then. Life was a little more complicated in those days.

Diane: Yeah, he was heartbroken about summer.

Jack: And he blamed me for his ouster from marchetti.

Diane: Well, you and I are making up for some past hurts. Do you think we can do the same with kyle?

Jack: Are we talking about healing his heart or are we talking about giving him back his old job?

Diane: We can’t heal his heart.

Jack: It’s not that easy, sweetheart. I can’t just cut billy loose to put kyle in his place. It would be mending one relationship by destroying another.

Looking for a bladder leak pad

that keeps you dry?

Diane: I’m not asking you to choose between our son and your brother.

Jack: I know that was never your intention, but it is kind of the reality of the situation. Look, I love our son. I want to work with him. I want him involved in every abbott family enterprise as a third-generation abbott. But billy is also part of that abbott family legacy and it would be a big mistake to cut him loose for personal reasons right now.

Diane: But is it really just personal? Billy has done some questionable things in the past behind your back, things that have compromised the integrity of jabot and the family as a whole.

Jack: He has admitted to us that he was tempted by tucker’s offer that he run jabot on his own. But he didn’t give in. He did not get drawn into that. He held firm. Look, he’s made mistakes in the past, no question about it, but in the here and now, he is not to blame.

Diane: I know you’re loyal to your brother, but how strong is that loyalty to you? You just said that he considered looking out for his own best interests.

Jack: I’m not saying it wasn’t a possibility. I’m saying he didn’t cross that line.

[ Diane sighs ] Hey… this isn’t easy for me. I have to think this through.

Diane: How so?

Jack: Well, if I cut billy loose right now, there are serious ramifications. Not just inside the family or inside jabot, but from the outside world. The appearance of upheaval in the c-suite, the appearance that there is unsteady leadership. Honey, I have worked very hard on my relationship with billy. I think this has been good for us as brothers, good for billy and his self-image and good for his stability.

Diane: What do you mean “his stability?”

Jack: When billy feels isolated and abandoned, he goes to some pretty dark places.

Diane: Is he really that fragile?

Jack: No, not anymore. But I don’t want him thinking I lost faith in him.

Diane: But what about how much our son values your faith in him? You know how much your approval means to kyle?

Jack: I do. It’s a very delicate balance. And I use all of the values and principles that my father instilled in all of us to keep the abbott family legacy alive. Jabot has already been through a lot. We’ve had too many captains steering the jabot ship, not just dad and me, but jill and victor and…

Diane: Jill. [ Laughs ] She’s had a colorful past with the family and jabot.

Jack: And to be sure. And with mamie back in town, that past is all too present.

Diane: Mm-hmm. The two of them do have history.

Jack: Whatever issues the two of them had, well, most of them were settled years ago. I just pray they are able to let go of things now. How– how did– how did this happen? How– how did we make this pivot away from talking about us?

Diane: Yeah.

Jack: Our future together, our love. If our love and commitment are solid, we can conquer anything. I truly believe that. Let’s drink to that.

Jill: Hey.

Devon: Hm?

Jill: What do you two make of this mamie thing? And I promise you, I promise you, if you knew her like I knew her, you would be suspicious too.

Devon: Well, that’s the thing, jill, is we don’t really know her. Or I don’t know her as well as you do. So, it’s hard for me to have an opinion. I just don’t understand why she’s been so damn secretive.

Lily: Look, I get where you’re both coming from, but let’s not make tonight about that. I mean, we’re here, together, in person. The company is strong, it’s growing. Let’s just focus on that.

Devon: That’s fine with me. As long as we’re not at risk of an ipl, then I’m good.

Jill: But there are other issues though.

Lily: Jill, can you please try? Please? Let mamie feel like she’s a part of something bigger with her family and not a threat. I mean, she’s successful, she’s family and she’s not backing down. So, let’s just welcome her.

Jill: Okay, lily, but devon is right. You do not know the history, but okay. All right. I will just hold my tongue unless she comes after me. And then, you know–

Lily: I know. We know. We know.

Mamie: Victoria, I’m pleased to see that you and nate are working together. That’s a brilliant mind you have sitting next to you.

Nate: Oh, mamie. [ Laughs ]

Victoria: Oh, nate is a very impressive man.

Mamie: Mm-hmm. Growing up to follow in medicine like his mother and then branching out to start a path of his own. It takes a lot of grit. I’m proud of you.

Nate: [ Chuckles ] Thank you. That means a lot coming from you.

Mamie: And you may not be his son… but there’s a lot of neil that I see in you.

Victoria: Well, there is absolutely no question that his presence was felt here today.

Nate: That is for sure.

Victoria: Do you know my father adored neil? He was a fixture at the ranch and at newman enterprises and I– I have no doubt that he is very proud of your success at the company.

[ Phone ringing ]

[ Sighs ] I have to take this. Excuse me.

[ Nate sighs ]

Mamie: Well, I can see now that there’s more than a working relationship with your boss. It’s more than you told me when we had our last phone chat.

Nate: Okay, you can stop now, aunt mamie.

Mamie: Why would I do that?

Nate: [ Laughs ] Because I’m a grown man.

Abby: You know what? Um, I am gonna go so the two of you can chat.

Mamie: So, whatever happened to that doctor lady that I– you know, I got really good vibes from that young lady.

Nate: It didn’t work out.

Mamie: Uh-huh. And why didn’t it work out?

Nate: We weren’t growing in the same direction.

Mamie: Oh, and so– but you were growing in the direction of victoria.

Nate: Careful, aunt mamie.

Mamie: Uh-huh. And did this new direction happen after you broke up or was victoria the reason? What was that doctor’s name?

Nate: Elena.

Mamie: Was victoria the reason why you and elena parted ways? Even when I was with the people I love,

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

Nate: How victoria and i got involved is a story for another day, maybe, if you just listen and don’t pass judgment.

Mamie: Oh, you ask so much of me.

[ Nate laughs ]

Nate: It really is so good to have you back in genoa city. As you know, I don’t get to see my mom very often, so this is significant and meaningful to me, and all of us here.

Mamie: Mm. I think I hear a but coming on.

Nate: You always had great intuition. I do remember that as a kid.

Mamie: Thank you.

Nate: But yes, please try your best not to pry into our personal lives or cast judgment on any of us. Do you think you can stop yourself from crossing that boundary?

Mamie: Well, I apologize if I came off that way. I certainly don’t want to be seen or perceived of as a busybody. I just wanted to make sure that all of you are happy.

Nate: Well, I can only speak for myself, but I haven’t been this happy in a very long time.

Mamie: Oh, well, then I’m thrilled.

[ Nate chuckles ]

Devon: Hey.

Abby: Hey.

Devon: Sorry if I made you feel like I’ve abandoned you.

Abby: Ah, don’t be silly. This is a huge deal for your family. I know all about the dynamics and the drama.

Devon: Oh, thank you. I just still don’t understand why aunt mamie had to be so secretive about everything.

Abby: Hm. That’s fair.

Devon: It’s just like, especially if she just wanted to get the family together, why didn’t she call us? Tell us?

Abby: Oh, maybe she just wanted it to be a surprise. Is that so hard to believe? Does there have to be an ulterior motive?

Devon: Well, no, it doesn’T. But she could have just said, “hey, this is what I’m gonna do. What do you guys think?”

Abby: I think mamie is doing that tonight here. In her own way.

Jill: Mamie, I’ve really gotta hand it to you. You’ve come a long way from the abbott house.

Mamie: Um, well, thank you for the compliment. Although, I have a feeling that a sucker punch is coming.

Jill: No, not this evening. I mean, I know I’m right. I know you’re up to something because my radar has served me very well over the years, but I’ve decided to put my reservations aside and offer you congratulations.

Mamie: Well, now, that’s rather unheard of.

Jill: I know, but you have come a long way. I mean, you’ve managed to pull this whole thing off without any of us seeing it coming. And that takes some real smarts.

Mamie: I’ve always been smart and capable, jill. You just never liked me very much and so you couldn’t see it or accept it.

Jill: That is probably true.

[ Both laughing ] So, I don’t suppose it’s worth it if I ask you, just what is it you ultimately want?

Mamie: Never show your hand, jill, until it’s time. (Vo) you were diagnosed with thyroid eye disease At humana, we believe your healthcare should evolve with you, and part of that evolution means choosing the right medicare plan for you.

Daniel: Considering the fireworks that could have gone off, it sounds like it was actually a pretty peaceful and enjoyable evening.

Lily: Yeah. I mean, I’m really happy that aunt mamie found this new phase in her life and that her investments are doing well. I’m just– I’m so curious as to what led her here.

Daniel: Are you worried that jill’s right? That mamie has a hidden agenda?

Lily: I don’t want to be worried. [ Chuckles ]

Daniel: You know, as an outsider, it seems like jill’s making a bigger deal of this than it is.

Lily: Well, I mean, the mamie-jill rivalry goes pretty far back and I’m in the middle because mamie’s my family but I work for jill.

Daniel: But you don’t think there’s some secret hostile takeover going on, right? It– it’s a minor financial investment, which seems like that’s what mamie does these days.

Lily: Yeah. I don’t know. I guess so.

Daniel: Hey, come here.

Lily: Oh.

Daniel: Yeah. [ Sighs ] Oh, gosh, that feels nice. Mm. It’s my specialty.

[ Lily chuckles ]

Lily: Well, one of them.

Daniel: Yeah? What’s the other one? Oh.

Victoria: Well, that was– that was quite the family gathering.

Nate: And you took it all in stride. Thank you for that.

Victoria: You’re welcome. I’m used to family drama. All kinds.

[ Nate clears throat ]

Nate: I’m worried jill and aunt mamie aren’t gonna be able to find common ground. And that aunt mamie seems intent on sticking around and getting involved.

Victoria: Yeah. You know, her connecting with my dad was curious but… I’m more concerned about you.

Nate: Me? [ Laughs ] Why? I have no horse in that race. If aunt mamie and jill want to duke it out, I can’t stop them.

Victoria: I mean– I mean, were you tempted by mamie’s suggestion that you return to chancellor-winters?

Nate: Not for a second. First, I am certain I am right where I belong.

Victoria: Well, that’s good to hear.

Nate: Second, we both know devon and lily would never agree to that. And even if they did, I’m sure it would be as miserable as the last time, maybe even worse.

Victoria: Some things heal with time and some don’T.

Nate: Why? Are you trying to get rid of me?

Victoria: Not a chance, sir.

[ Diane sighs ]

Diane: Thank you for a delicious dinner and a wonderful evening.

Jack: It was my absolute pleasure.

Diane: It was magical.

Jack: Well, I would expect nothing less on the last night before we renew our vows as mr. And mrs. Jack abbott in front of all our family and friends.

Diane: I can’t wait for our next chapter.

Jack: Together we can handle anything, whether it’s billy’s unpredictability or kyle’s confused defiance or tucker’s endless onslaught. We can handle anything together, as a team.

Diane: We are quite the force of nature together, aren’t we?

Jack: And I could never love anyone as much as I love you right now. Mm.

[ Diane chuckles ] ( )

Jill: Oh, what a night.

Devon: I know. Feels good to be home.

Abby: Uh, absolutely. I am gonna go check on dominic.

Jill: Abby, I was so glad to be able to spend time with you today. And how is your mom doing? I mean, I heard what happened with tucker. Not that we were surprised.

Abby: Yeah, we were and we weren’T.

Jill: I guess. Anyway, give her my best.

Abby: Thank you.

Jill: And kiss dominic for me, okay?

Abby: Will do.

Jill: Boy, I’m really glad that you and abby are settling in here. I’m very relieved that this home is in such good hands. Thank you.

Devon: Uh-huh. Well, thank you for saying that. It means a lot to hear you say that. And I’m just happy that dominic gets to grow up in such a cool place like this.

Jill: I know. There she is. Whenever I’m here, oh, god, do I feel her presence. I hear that voice echoing in the halls. I spent a lot of my youth here, you know. The difficult times and love and laughter and quite a few fights. One of them involving a cake.

[ Devon laughs ]

Devon: What’s really on your mind, jill?

Jill: Well, you think you’re pretty perceptive, don’t you?

[ Devon clears throat ] It’s just that when seeing mamie it– it kind of opened a lot of chapters from old wounds, I guess you’d say with the abbots, you know. And things that you think have gone away, but they haven’T.

Devon: Well, so much of your family and your career is centered around the abbotts.

Jill: Yeah. And I had some pretty wonderful memories of john, I’ll tell you that. But not so much mamie. No offense to the extended winters family.

Devon: None taken at all.

Jill: Perhaps you can understand my skepticism about her, even if you don’t agree with it.

Devon: Of course, I can. Yeah.

Jill: So, would you give me your honest take on this whole mamie thing?

Devon: Oh, my honest take was that I was surprised. Surprised just like you were. And like I told abby, I wish that she would have said something beforehand instead of making this a big mystery game.

Jill: Mm-hmm.

Devon: But, you know, again, I don’t know her very well, so maybe she gets a kick out of stuff like this.

Jill: Oh, she got a kick out of that today, I’ll tell you that. And how could there not be an ulterior motive with her?

Devon: I don’t know. But honestly, you know her a lot better than me.

Jill: Oh, I sure do. And so I know that there is a surprise behind the surprise.

[ Mamie sighs ]

[ Mamie laughs ] Oh. Ah. Oh. Ah. Cheers to me and a perfect evening.

[ Mamie chuckles ] Mm.

[ Phone ringing ] Hello. Yeah. Yeah, I just got back to my suite.

[ Laughs ] Well, it went off without a hitch. They don’t have a clue. But they’re all as curious as hell. [ Laughs ] Yeah, it just went perfect. [ Laughs ]

Nick: Thank you.

Sharon: Thank you.

Nick: So, I heard you knocked it out of the park with the west coast kirsten divisions.

Sharon: Well, you were such a superstar with the east coast divisions, I could hardly let you show me up.

Nick: Well, what can I say? It’s probably just the dimples. Can I grab a muffin?

Sharon: Sure. So, you wanna tell me what’s going on?

Nick: Um, well, let’s see. Our attorneys have scheduled a conference call for next week.

Sharon: No, I mean, with you, nick. What’s going on with you?

Nick: It’s nothing. I’m good. All right, I’m not that good, but I will be. Don’t– don’t worry about it.

Sharon: See, when you tell me not to worry about something, that makes me worry even more and you know that. Especially when I can tell that you want to punch a hole through a wall right now. So, can you just maybe narrow down what it is I’m not supposed to worry about? And then I won’t start making things up.

Nick: Look, I came here so we could compare updates on our kirsten trips, okay? Let’s not get bogged down with any personal stuff. We are business partners.

Sharon: We were also married, nick, and we raised children. And we still managed to remain friends, good friends. And we’re going to remain friends for the rest of our lives, whether this business together works out in the end or not. So, that’s not an either or thing. Tell me what’s going on. What happened?

Adam: Sally. Sally! Will you please wait? I need to know what happened in the park.

Sally: I don’t care what you need and I don’t want to talk about it so just leave it alone.

Adam: Okay, I’m sorry, but I can’t do that.

Sally: Well, try.

Adam: My brother almost ripped my head off in the park. I would like to know what brought that on.

Sally: Isn’t that a normal state for the two of you?

Adam: Okay. This was different.

Sally: Okay, just give him some space, okay? Leave him alone. He’ll cool off.

Adam: Sally, cool off from what? Please, would you just tell me? It’s important for me to know where my brother and I stand, okay? Look, did you tell him that I kissed you? Is that what set him off?

Abby: Oh, look at you. Looking good. I love you in a suit. I mean, I like you better without the suit on, but you look good both ways.

Devon: Ooh, thank you.

Abby: Wait, you have a late meeting or something?

Devon: Uh, actually we have a late meeting, if you care to join me?

Abby: We do? What are we doing?

Devon: Uh, mamie invited us and the rest of the family to get drinks at the jazz lounge.

Abby: Okay. What’s the occasion?

Devon: Uh, hopefully, she’s gonna tell us she’s the mystery investor in chancellor-winters. Maybe explain why she’s kept it a secret this whole time.

Abby: Well, in that case, let me go change. Got the perfect outfit.

Devon: Yeah?

Abby: Mm-hmm.

Lily: Hi.

Daniel: Hi. I came as soon as I could. What’s up?

Lily: Well, I have a favor to ask you and I could have texted you, but I thought I could be more persuasive in person.

Daniel: You were right. What do you want?

Lily: Um, well, aunt mamie invited us to the club and I want you to be my date.

Daniel: Really?

Lily: Why are you saying it like it’s a bad idea?

Daniel: Well, I’m assuming that she’s gonna announce her new involvement in chancellor-winters, right?

Lily: Yeah, I would assume so.

Daniel: And you want me tagging along for that?

Lily: You’re not tagging along, you’re a part of chancellor-winters. You should be there. And besides, with the guest list, it’s kind of like a family thing and I want to show aunt mamie how happy you make me.

Daniel: Yeah. Yeah. I mean, as fun as that sounds, I’ve got that meeting with my creative team that I’ve already canceled three times.

Lily: Oh, yes. That’s right.

Daniel: Yeah.

Lily: Okay.

Daniel: No. Look, I’ll tell you what, you go tonight, without me. You have an amazing time. And sometime in the near future, let’s get together with your aunt and show her just how happy you really are.

Lily: Okay.

Daniel: Okay.

[ Knocking on door ]

Nate: All right. Pencil down. It’s quitting time.

Victoria: Says who?

Nate: Says me. You and I are off to the neil winter’s lounge for cocktails.

Victoria: We are?

Nate: Yes. Aunt mamie organized a family get together and I would love for you to accompany me.

Victoria: Oh, wait a minute. Did you say family get-together? Does that include devon and lily?

Nate: Apparently.

Victoria: Are you trying to go to war with them again?

Jack: Mamie, do you know how happy it makes me to see you like this?

Mamie: Like what? Energized? Strong? A woman on top of the world?

Jack: Yeah, that about covers it. You forgot to mention beautiful as ever.

Mamie: Oh, no, I didn’T. I just paused so you could say it.

[ Both laughing ]

Jack: I don’t suppose you’re gonna fill me in on what you’re up to this evening, are you?

Mamie: Jackie, I am the luckiest woman in the world. I have two families and one of them is the abbotts. And I will cherish that bond forever. And now, I have to work on building a relationship with nate and lily and devon. And that’s why I put together this special evening. And why I have to take certain steps to truly reconnect–

Jack: See, there you go again. Certain steps. You are gonna drive me crazy with this mystery, mamie. Come on. Hey… it’s me! Your dry skin!

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by… eggland’s best.

Victoria: Come on, nate. You can’t possibly think it’s a good idea for me to– to come with you to a family gathering.

Nate: I happen to think it’s an excellent idea.

Victoria: Well, your cousins are not exactly my biggest fans. I mean, devon and lily still blame me for what you tried to do to them at chancellor-winters. So, how’s it gonna look if you and I walk in together? Like we’re, I don’t know– like we’re trying to rub something in their faces.

Nate: Lily and devon have too much respect for aunt mamie to cause a scene.

Victoria: Well, then maybe they’ll just walk out. And then your poor aunt’s family gathering will be over before it’s started.

Nate: I promise you that is not going to happen. Everyone who’s invited will come and they will stay, which gives me another chance to try to mend the fences with my cousins.

Victoria: I know you want that. I want that for you too. I really do.

Nate: Okay, so come with me.

Victoria: Are you sure?

Nate: Victoria, you and I are in a relationship and I am not about to apologize to anyone for what you and I have. Besides, I’ve become pretty involved with your family.

Victoria: Well, you can certainly say that’s true.

Nate: Well, I think it’s high time you become part of mine.

Jack: Mamie, that is giant news.

Mamie: It sure is. And if everything works out, this is just the beginning.

Jack: Wow. You have really made the most of your investments over the years, haven’t you?

Mamie: Well, being around john abbott for decades certainly didn’t hurt. No. Your father was a brilliant businessman.

Jack: Well, you’ll get no argument there. There’s a reason he’s a legend in the corporate world.

Mamie: You see, jackie, I always had a plan to take care of all of you until you could stand on your own two feet. And then…

Jack: And then you would start your new life as…

Both: An entrepreneur.

Mamie: That’s right.

Jack: And it’s all led you full circle back to genoa city.

Mamie: When the idea of being in business with my niece and nephew hit me, I was willing to move heaven and earth. Even victor newman, just to make it happen.

Jack: Wait, what does victor– he’s the private investor? Mamie, I am so happy for all of you. For, well, all of you except–

Mamie: I know exactly what you’re going to say, jack.

Jack: This is great news for you, for devon, for lily, for chancellor-winters. I just hope you’re prepared for the unavoidable roadblock that you’re about to run up against.

Mamie: Yeah, well. I know it’s not gonna be easy, but I will do whatever it takes to make this happen. Come on, let’s face it. Who can prepare for jill?

Nick: Okay, friend. If you must know, while I was out of town, adam and sally happened to run into each other at the athletic club and they decided to have dinner together.

Sharon: Dinner. Okay, well, that’s not that big of a deal, nick. The two of them went through a terrible loss together, so for them to be able to find some level of peace…

Nick: Oh, there’s more to it than that. After dinner, adam decided to walk sally to her room.

Sharon: Okay?

Nick: Then, he kissed her.

Sharon: Oh, adam.

Nick: I mean, it’s typical adam, you know? He refuses to accept that he’s lost anything, especially to me, and he wants to just get it back, no matter what it is, however he can, whether he deserves it or not and I’m sick of it.

Sharon: Well, I can’t say that I blame you. But what are you gonna do about it? And don’t tell me that you’re gonna confront adam.

Nick: No, not right now. ‘Cause I’m sure I’ll do something I’ll regret. Like rip off one of his arms. I’m sure if you do something like that though, you get some prison time. So– so I wanted to come here. Just focus on my work and not think about him or what he did because when I do, all I can think about is how bad I want that son of a bitch gone for good and out of everyone’s life.

Sally: What difference does it make if I told nick about the kiss? You said that you were sorry, end of story. That’s the truth, right? I mean, unless you want to stir up some more trouble. Is chaos the only thing that makes your life worth living?

Adam: No, sally. That is not what I want.

Sally: Okay, then stop asking questions and just leave it alone.

Adam: Okay. I– I would love to do that, but if you told him, I need to know, not to cause more chaos. I have to know where nick and I stand because I’m trying to rectify my relationship with him and the rest of my family.

Sally: Okay, come on, adam. You and I both know that is a complete lie. I have moderate to severe crohn’s disease.

Adam: What do you mean that it’s a lie?

Sally: Because you’re you, adam. In spite of everything that you have said, everything that you’ve done over the last several months proves that you can never change. You can’t let me go. You can’t let go of newman media. You can’t let go of the anger at your father and the rest of your family for not treating you like you deserve the world. You say that you want to fix things, but they’re just words that you repeat, over and over again. Your actions are what matters and you refuse to stop blowing things up.

Sharon: Well, obviously you did the right thing by coming here instead of confronting adam, especially when you’re this angry and I’m not condoning what he did. We’ve all had to learn the hard way that love is love and we can’t just turn it off, no matter how much we would like to sometimes.

Nick: Adam does not love sally, all right? She’s just a trophy to him. Same as everything else in his life. He doesn’t love. He covets. His entire life is– is based on greed and jealousy and self-pity.

Sharon: There is nothing healthy about adam’s behavior. I agree with that. But when you say that he can’t love, I don’t know. I mean, he’s taken this long struggling to get over sally. Look, the only way that that kiss matters is if it somehow emotionally affected her. Did it?

Jack: How does anyone prepare for jill? That’s a good question. She doesn’t like to be tricked and god knows the animosity between the two of you goes back decades.

Mamie: Just wait until she finds out just how successful I’ve been since she paid me off to leave genoa city. Oh, this is gonna take her over the top.

Jack: Oh, not half as much as finding out you are the new mystery investor.

Mamie: But all I’m doing is replacing an investor. Jill shouldn’t be upset about any of that. I mean, money is green, honey. My money’s as good as victor newman’S.

Jack: That’s all perfectly logical. Logic doesn’t always apply with jill. Go ahead and give it a try. Listen, when you said you invested in chancellor-winters, it was only the beginning. Any chance you’d tell me what else you got up your sleeve? Come on, it’s me. It’s jackie. You can tell me.

Mamie: Oh, look, my guests are arriving. Sorry, jackie.

[ Jack sighing ] Having triplets is…

Lily: Well, it was good to see you, jack.

Jack: Good to see you. I have to be heading home. I’m sorry to do that.

Mamie: No, we’ll miss you.

Jack: Well, I will miss you too. All of you, but, uh, diane and I have to finish planning our wedding celebration tomorrow.

Mamie: Oh, jackie. I’m just so glad to see that you finally found real love and happiness. Although I have to admit, I was a bit worried when I discovered that diane was back and living in your house no less. But I have to admit, she– she really has turned her life around.

Jack: She has done that and so much more, mamie, I promise.

Mamie: I believe you. And I’m looking at that twinkle of joy in your eye. I’m really looking forward to celebrating it.

Jack: Have fun tonight, mamie. Lots of fun. Good evening.

Victoria: Jack.

Nate: Aunt mamie.

Mamie: Hello, victoria. Wow, you’re as lovely as I thought you might be when I was watching you grow up.

Victoria: Oh, thank you. That’s very sweet of you to say that.

Mamie: Oh, you know what? You have to come and see this snapshot of nate that I found when he was a baby. Come on over.

Nate: Oh, no.

Victoria: Oh, I would love to see that.

Mamie: I’ve got it on my phone.

Victoria: Oh my goodness. He’s so chubby.

Lily: Honestly, I’m surprised that you’re even enamored with victoria. Or is it just that she’s useful to you?

Nate: You’re never gonna give me a chance, are you?

Lily: Honestly, nate, this is me trying.

Nate: Then, let’s clear the air once and for all. My feelings for victoria are very real. You don’t have to like her, but you do have to respect my decision. Otherwise, there’s no point in us talking about being a family.

Lily: How do you not realize that you dating victoria throws everything that you two did to devon and me in our faces? Do you really think that we’re just gonna forget that?

Nate: Lily, did you forget that devon tried to take you to court? Or did you forget that devon and abby cheated on amanda and chance? Got caught red-handed, humiliated them, but they’re treated like the happy new couple in town. Everyone’s moved on. I am just as happy with victoria, but all you and everyone else can see is the past. I admitted I crossed a line. And I am sorry I hurt elena, but the truth is I’ve never been more comfortable in my own skin than I am now. With victoria.

Lily: Yeah, nate, that’s what’s scary. It’s terrifying because elena was your conscience and victoria can’t give you that. I mean, she’s pushing you to be bigger and better and collateral damage be damned.

Nate: For the record, I made the effort tonight.

Lily: Yeah, okay.

Nate: But this is over. Enjoy the wine.

Sharon: You’ve gone quiet.

Nick: Yeah. I hate to admit it, but I think the kiss affected sally more than she’s willing to admit. Even more than she’s aware of.

Sharon: And what makes you suspect that?

Nick: I don’t know, but I don’t want to talk about it. I came here to cool down and get some work done.

Sharon: Okay. How do you think we’re doing with that?

Nick: Not great. I’m pretty useless right now. But you did help.

Sharon: I did? How?

Nick: By being the rational person in the room, talking me down. Thank you. I appreciate it.

Sharon: I’m always happy to help a friend keep from dismembering his brother.

Nick: It’s one of the qualities that first attracted me to you.

Adam: I know what nick thinks of me, but I thought you and I, we were in a better place.

Sally: Better than what? Yeah, my heart was broken when we lost our little girl and I was filled with grief and rage, directed at you and the universe. We are in a better place from that, yeah. As friends. As two people working through a shared trauma, but then you had to go and ruin it by kissing me.

Adam: And I apologized for that. I told you that it was a mistake.

Sally: Yeah. But you also said that it was a mistake that you didn’t regret.

Adam: And you know what? I still don’T. Okay? It was a moment. It was an impulsive moment just between us.

Sally: No, it was a lot more than that, adam. Look, I’m just getting my whole life, my whole world balanced and back in order and now thanks to you and this impulsive moment, it’s all teetering again.

Adam: I mean, you’re– you’re not even talking about nick’s reaction to that kiss, are you? You’re– you’re talking about yours. When it comes to your hair, ingredients matter. at humana, we believe your healthcare should evolve with you, and part of that evolution means choosing the right medicare plan for you.

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

Sally: You say that you want to rebuild relationships, but you don’T. You just want to make them what you want. And if the truth doesn’t work for you, then you rearrange it. You twist it into knots and you will only ever think what you want, but listen to me, there is no us, okay? And– and– and just let me give you a serious piece of advice. Stay away from nick for the time being. And me, okay? Because yes, I did tell nick about the kiss and yes, it upset him.

Adam: Okay. That’s all I needed to know. But take my word for it, um, I know my brother very well and I promise you, me kissing you did not upset him. It’s more than that.

Sally: Okay. Why does it have to be more than that? You crossed a line with your brother and your so-called friend.

Adam: Sally, he would only be that upset if that kiss triggered some emotional response in you.

Sally: Oh, my god enough. Please don’t you dare try and make this into more than it is, okay? Just stay out of my way and out of my life. And for the love of god, stay out of my head.

Mamie: Well, thank you all so much for coming tonight. Wow, I feel as if I’m in a dream. Standing here in genoa city, my home for so many years. In the neil winters jazz lounge, my brilliant nephew-in-law. Surrounded by my beautiful– my beautiful family. Sorry, I’ve missed you all so much. It won’t surprise any of you who know me that I have not stopped keeping tabs on you from the sidelines. And so, I’m aware of many of the ups and downs that you’ve all been through. I also know about some of the anger and animosity that’s been happening between you as well. I don’t mind telling you how much it breaks my heart and know that it breaks olivia’s heart too. And don’t think for one minute that neil and drucilla are not looking down and they’re having their hearts broken too. Which is exactly why I have asked you to be here tonight. To let you know that it is my intention to return to genoa city to whip you all in shape and to make this family the strong powerhouse that it was before and that it shall be again. (Vo) when it comes to nature valley, which camp are you in?

[ Sally sighing ]

Nick: Adam has a hold on you. Maybe he always will.

Sally: Look, nick, please. Okay? We are in such a good place and I really love what we have together. I don’t want to feel this way, okay? I– I– I don’t want to feel confused and– and mixed up. If– if I could straighten out my jumbled-up emotions right now, I would. But you asked me and this is where I’m at. But it doesn’t mean that I care about you any less. Just please tell me I haven’t screwed this up.

[ Sally sighing ]

[ Phone ringing ]

Nick: Yeah, I like that one too. It’s sally.

Sharon: Oh, okay. You should take that.

Nick: Hey.

Sally: Hey, how are you?

Nick: Just, uh, here with sharon, working?

[ Sally sighing ]

Sally: You are not okay. I can hear it in your voice. Neither am I.

Nick: Has adam bothered you again?

Sally: Look, can we please talk this out?

Nick: Sally, I told you I’m–

Sally: Working. Yes, I– I know. I’m amazed that you can actually concentrate right now.

Nick: Well, sharon’s pretty good at grounding me when I need it.

Sally: Remind me to thank her. Nick, please. I– I completely steered things in the wrong direction this afternoon.

Nick: Yeah, they did go south pretty quickly.

Sally: Yeah, I know. I’m sorry.

Nick: Then adam showing up didn’t help. You know what? You’re right. We need to talk. I’m on my way.

[ Sally sighing ]

[ Sally exhaling ]

Mamie: Now, just to be clear, I have no illusions about being able to unify this family from a distance, which is why I intend to do this work from the inside. I have purchased a substantial investment in chancellor-winters from a very influential, very cooperative, secret investor.

Devon: Well, I don’t think it’s a secret because we know that the investor is victor newman.

Mamie: So, now you know. And I hope that you’re as excited as I am to know that I’m gonna be strongly connected to the future that lily and devon are building. In memory of two of our most extraordinary family members, kathleen chancellor and neil winters.

Devon: Yes.

All: Hear, hear. Cheers.

Mamie: And now, nate, as for you. And we all know that you’re in knee-deep over at newman enterprises. And good for you. Good for you. But I just want you to know upfront, it will give me great pleasure to lure you away to rejoin us at chancellor-winters.

Lily: Uh, sorry, did you just say rejoin us?

Sally: Nick, don’t make too much out of this, okay? It didn’t mean anything to me–

Nick: But it meant everything to him.

Sally: Okay. He kissed me. I didn’t–

Nick: How did you feel afterward? Sally, there’s no judgment here, okay? I’m not mad at you, I promise, but I need to know everything. No matter what, just be honest. I need to know how you felt because it’s obvious adam’s never gonna let this go, no matter what he says.

Sally: I had a mixed reaction, I guess. I– I don’t know how I felt. No question, the kiss was out of line. And– and I really do feel like he was sincere when he said he was sorry and…

Nick: And what?

Sally: I don’t know. It’s hard to just see how much pain he’s in, still being in love with me and knowing that I’m with you.

Nick: So, there is a part of you that is still in love with him?

Nick: Adam.

Adam: Nick. Look, um, I was gonna call you later, okay? I have something that I wanna say to you and–

Nick: I’ll go first. You need to stop this. You need to leave her alone. For sally’s benefit, mine, and definitely yours. You know me, my patience has a limit.

Adam: You– you’re absolutely right, okay? I’m sorry, I crossed the line. What I did was wrong on every level and I want to apologize sincerely to you and to sally. Holy cannoli. [ Nick sighing ]

Nick: I just saw adam downstairs.

Sally: Oh, no, please tell me you didn’T.

Nick: I didn’t lay a hand on him. I didn’t even raise my voice.

Sally: What did you do?

Nick: I warned him that he is gonna leave you alone because I’ve run out of patience.

Sally: I’m sure he didn’t take that well.

Nick: Actually, he did. He says he knows he screwed up. That he was wrong and that he apologized to both of us.

Sally: Well, that’s a relief, right?

Nick: If it were coming from anyone other than my brother, yeah. It’s just another adam newman mind game, but I’m at my breaking point with him.

Sally: Well, I mean, do you really think that’s what he’s up to?

Nick: There is no way in hell I believe he’s gonna leave you alone, sally. He’s just trying to get me to let my guard down.

Sally: Okay. Well, you know what? I– at the end of the day, it– it doesn’t really matter. Adam’s gonna do whatever adam is gonna do and we can deal with it if and when it comes to it. But honestly, frankly, it is the last thing on my mind right now ’cause the one thing that I care about, the only thing that I care about is the reason that I wanted to see you.

Nick: And what’s that?

Sally: I just really want to know if we’re okay.

Nick: I don’t know. I don’t know. That depends on you and what’s in your heart. I want to know the truth. No more deflecting. No more denial. I want the truth. No matter what it is.

Sally: The truth is that I’m falling in love with you too. I am.

Adam: Sharon.

Sharon: Oh, we’re closed, adam.

Adam: Yeah. I– I– I know you are. But the, uh, the lights were still on and your car was still in the parking lot, so I thought I would stop in and say hi. Is– is there anything that I can help you with?

Sharon: Um, as a matter of fact, there is. Could you tell me why you feel that you have to mess things up for everyone who you believe has harmed you?

Adam: Oh, I take it you spoke to nick.

Sharon: I have.

Adam: Oh, I can only imagine how he spun things. But then again, I guess he didn’t need to because, um, I’m guilty as charged. I crossed the line, okay? So, nick has every reason to be upset with me.

Sharon: Well, I agree with that. I feel badly for him.

Adam: Yeah. Yeah, so do I.

Sharon: I doubt that.

Adam: No, no, I– I really, I mean it, I do. Because what nick doesn’t see and what became clear as a bell to me today is that he is fooling himself.

Sharon: Meaning?

Adam: Sharon, sally’s not in love with nick. Sally’s still in love with me.

Mamie: You heard me perfectly, lily. I know that nate left chancellor-winters under less-than-ideal circumstances, but I’m hoping that we can take all of that anger and that sense of betrayal and leave it in the past where it belongs. And that we can invite nate back to rejoin us in our family’s company.

Lily: Yeah. I don’t know if that’s possible, but it’s the word “us” that’s confusing me because you bought an interest in the company from victor, but yet you’re making it sound like you’re gonna be an integral part of it. So, I mean, what exactly are your intentions at chancellor-winters?

Jill: Yeah. Actually, I’m pretty curious about that myself.

Audra: You know, I actually think she was impressed, I stood my ground. She even offered to be my mentor.

Tucker: That’s rich.

Audra: Yes, it is.

Tucker: I’d stay away from that.

Audra: Um, I– I think she meant it.

Tucker: No, she didn’t mean it. What she meant to do was flatter you and therefore, control you. Now, you would do well to maintain a respectable distance from Nikki’s mentorship. The good news, however, is that you wouldn’t have to worry about either pleasing or upsetting her if you are still interested in, uh, changing trains and joining me on the jabot express.

*************************

Audra: You know, I have to hand it to you, Tucker. Only you would actually believe you could take jabot away from the Abbotts and make it sound easy.

Tucker: It’s more than a belief. It’s a certainty.

Audra: Hm. How so, evil genius?

Tucker: Yeah, you mock. I’m serious as a rattlesnake.

Audra: It was a compliment.

Tucker: Ah, thank you. So, I have put in motion a plan to raise suspicion that Billy Abbott has been embezzling from Jabot.

Audra: How did you manage that?

Tucker: Uh, details are boring.

Audra: Jack and Billy aren’t that stupid, okay? They’re gonna know right away that you’re behind this.

Tucker: Good. Let’ em. That’s exactly what I want ’em to think.

Billy: Look, Phyllis… I think you’re scared. You owe a lot of money and your usual sources are all dried up, and when your back’s against the wall, you start to get desperate and you make bad choices.

Phyllis: Oh.

Billy: Like getting involved with tucker McCall.

Phyllis: Mm. Wow. Listen to you. All of that from one itty bit of a phone call you overheard. Wow, you should be a fortune teller. I hear there’s a carnival leaving town.

Billy: You haven’t answered my question.

Phyllis: What’s the question?

Billy: You and tucker.

Phyllis: But why would you think I’d be involved with tucker McCall again?

Billy: I’ve seen the two of you together more than a few times. The vibe I get is that the two of you are cooking something up that’s a little south of legal.

Phyllis: Ooh, maybe we’re having an affair.

Billy: You have a better taste than that.

***********************

Phyllis: Uh, yeah, we’re finished here, there’s nothing more to discuss.

Tucker: Not even your daughter?

Phyllis: My daughter has no part in this.

Tucker: Well, in this, that’s right, that’s right. But she is eventually, going to need a job, is she not?

Phyllis: She has a job.

Tucker: What do you mean? Marchetti? Here’s the thing about that. Uh… [ Clears throat ] When I take over jabot, and I will take over jabot, make no mistake, I’m gonna streamline it, I’m gonna get back to basics, you know. The cosmetics and scents and all that crap. I just don’t see a place for fashion.

Phyllis: You’re not gonna do that.

Tucker: Watch me.

Phyllis: I’m gonna warn jack. I’m gonna tell him everything you’ve done.

Tucker: No, you won’t, ’cause you know all the dominoes that would fall if you did. You know your role in this little operation. If I go down, you go down. And considering your recent history with the law, your downfall might be a little more permanent.

Phyllis: Wow. You think you have it all worked out, don’t you?

Tucker: You’re good at the game Phyllis, but I’m better. You watch your step from now on. And I would not make any threats you can’t back up. And by the way, the money I transferred will not include your 20% aggravation fee. You should consider yourself lucky I’m not charging you the same fee, for all the aggravation you’ve caused me.

Jack: Mamie, I could not be happier to have you back in town. Why didn’t you tell us you were coming?

Mamie: Oh, and deprive myself of the joy that I get from seeing that look of surprise on your face, Jackie? No, no. You have the best reactions of anyone that I know.

Jack: Oh, Mamie

[ Mamie laughs ]

Mamie: And it never gets old. Your father and I used to just have so much fun just watching you open the presents. Either it be on Christmas, on your birthday, just genuine delight. And awe. And now, I get to see that look on your face every time I show up at your door. Oh, I just love it! I love it.

Traci: But if you told us, we could have got your room ready, and we could have planned a– a special dinner party, maybe, um, invited over your grand niece and nephew.

Mamie: No, see, no, that’s exactly why I like to show up unexpectedly. I don’t like all this fuss.

Jack: Mamie.

Mamie: Well, look, I’m so happy that I was able to surprise you. I’m glad that we’ve had this time together, but truth be told, this reunion is not really the only reason why I’m in town.

****************

Adam: Dad, when– when I said I wanna start from the bottom and I wanna earn my way to a higher position, this is not what I had in mind.

Victor: Son, I don’t think you and I agreed that you could choose your own starting point.

Adam: Dad, I– I thought we would be working together. You know, father and son.

Victor: Didn’t you tell me that you wanted to learn the ropes?

Adam: Yeah, not from someone who’s been in business less time than I was in business school.

Victor: This entire rebirth notion is yours. You said you wanted a chance to prove that you could change. You get your chance now.

Adam: It’s another test. That’s what this is?

Victor: Everything is a test. Every minute of every day is a test.
