Say what you will about Judge Bartlett, but she works fast, but slow. I know things didn’t go the way you’d hoped today, but it could be worse. How? My brother was just sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Oh yeah. What’s wrong? I just left the courthouse. Colin, um, he’s going to prison. For 20 years. You know what, I can’t say I’m sorry about that. Yeah, no, no, me neither. Then why are you so upset? Because when the hearing was over, and they were taking him away, he looked me straight in the eyes with so much hate and anger.

And, and then he said, Said, said what? I should be going to prison too. Because I’m just as guilty as he is.

And he’s right.

Dad. Hey, I didn’t know you were back. Hey, buddy. Hey, hey. Yeah, John and I got back from L. A. Where you nabbed the guy who helped that nurse fake Abe’s death. Mm. Definitely a worthwhile trip. You know, I worked with Whitley King. She always seemed perfectly normal. But this entire time, she was holding Abe hostage at her apartment, pretending to be his wife.

That is just… Insane. I know. But, Abe is alive. He’s safe. That’s what matters. Yeah, so, what’s the latest? How’s he doing? I’m happy to report Abe was discharged today. That’s fantastic. It’s a miracle. After everything that man’s been through, he’s healthy as a horse. Except, he can’t remember anything about his life.

Try to stay positive. I mean, that could start coming back to him at any time. Yeah. Well, Paulina should be getting him home just about now. Hopefully, It’ll start coming back to him as soon as he goes through that door.

So now that Ave is home with his wife surrounded by reminders of their life together, it could definitely trigger something. It could hopefully sooner rather than later, or their living situation could get a bit awkward. To say the least. Speaking of, How’s it been living with Wendy? Right, uh, I’ve actually been meaning to tell you.

Wendy and I, we’re uh, We’re together now. What? Last time I talked to you, you told me you were sure it was over between you two. You said that she asked you to leave the apartment so she could be alone with Johnny. She did. She did. She wanted some privacy to let him know that it wasn’t happening. So you’re telling me…

She was, uh, irritating and pushy and not very bright and didn’t stop talking. Ever. When she started telling me about the time she dressed up as a whoopee cushion for Halloween, I had to call it.

Man, you are 0 for 2. I think you need a new matchmaker. Maybe not. I think she may have gotten it right the first time.

I know Colin’s sentence hits you hard. Um, it’s one thing to lose a case. It’s another when it’s your own family. No, I, I knew there was no chance of acquittal. I just had hoped that I could convince the judge to show him some leniency. Bartlett’s notoriously tough. She threw the damn book at him. 20 years.

With the possibility of parole. Which I know is not much comfort. But, you’ll get through this. And I’d offer to take you for another drink. Non alcoholic, of course. But I have plans. Another date? Yes, ma’am. Oh, so I guess this matchmaker you hired did better the second time around. Ugh, hardly. Uh, the guy wouldn’t shut up about his ex.

I’d try to steer the conversation in another direction. He’d just steer it right back. It’s like he just couldn’t forget about her.

Sloan said she ran into you. Oh, yes, I was there to pick up the results of the genetic test that EJ had done, and it looks like that there’s no risk to the baby. Someone said you got good news. Yeah. It’s nice to hear that from you. I just still don’t understand how… She got my test results. What? Someone got your test results?

So you’re on a first date and this loser cannot shut up about his ex. Jeez, that must have been… awful. You haven’t had the pleasure? I mean, before Eric, I wasn’t, you know, really dating high, but I totally realized how it would suck to be sitting across from a guy and then realize he’s hung up on someone else.

Yeah, especially this guy. It was Alex Kyriakos. Oh, this just got good. Please, let me just take a shot in the dark here. He wouldn’t shut up about Stephanie Johnson. Bingo! And, you know, but at least he hired a matchmaker. He’s trying to get over her. So I take it there’s not going to be a second date? God, no.

We just happened to run into each other at the same bar where we were meeting our next matches. And I use that term, loosely. Well, did you see her date? Yeah, it was, um, Alex Kiriakis. You two haven’t, uh… What? No. Never. But let’s just say I’ve heard he’s matched up with a lot of women. So I highly doubt he could choose just one. Wendy chose you. So happy for you, son. After both our dates went south, Melinda and I ended up commiserating over a bottle of wine. We actually had a nice time. So, who knows? Maybe it’s a good thing the matchmaker picked such terrible second dates for us. Or, maybe that matchmaker knew exactly what she was doing. Meaning what? Meaning, she still thinks you and Melinda pair up well.

But since your first date went so badly, she knew she couldn’t convince you to give it another shot, so… She created another shot for you. You mean she sent us both out on second dates she knew ahead of time wouldn’t go well? What, you think it’s a coincidence that both your dates happened at the same place, same time?

I don’t. I think she was creating a rematch. I

s I suppose it’s a possibility. The way I hope it works out. By the look on your face, I’m guessing you don’t think it will. I’m just not sure you can trust someone who’s already burned you before.

Colin was not right. My God, you are not just as guilty as he is. I did everything that he asked me to. I broke into your mom’s office. I sent those threatening messages. I spiked those biscuits. You did some terrible things that you need to make up for. There is no question about that. But there’s a reason why you were sentenced to community service and not prison.

You were in an emotionally abusive relationship with a very sick and dangerous man who manipulated you into doing his dirty work. I just wish that I would have been strong enough to have said no. Well, you were plenty strong up on that roof. He was about to kill me and then my mother, but you, you, you risked your own life to stop him.

I still feel like a coward. You know what a coward is? A coward is the person who was going to make my mother watch while he shot me to death. The person who cracked an innocent man in the head with a rolling pin and then left him on the floor to die. That is a coward and a monster and that, that is not you.

Thank you for saying that. I’m saying it because it’s true. Unlike what Colin said to you in that courtroom today. Even on his way to prison, he is still trying to get inside of your head. Trying to make you feel just as bad about yourself as he does. Don’t let him tell ya. You just keep going forward with your therapy, with your life, and leave him in the dust.

Yeah. Speaking of living life, I heard the news about your stepfather. So this whole time that we thought he was dead, he was being held hostage by a crazy nurse? I still can’t believe it. You know, when I was handing out the missing person flyer, I actually went to that woman’s door. If I would have known that he was inside There’s no way that you could have.

Well, I know you’re happy that he’s alive. And I’m so happy for you and your mom. Thanks. Yeah, yeah, Abe, he, he’s doing really well. You know, he’s got a clean bill of health. Now, now he just needs to get his memory back.

Right. I know that. But I’m just saying, for argument’s sake, it’s possible that she didn’t give up after the first try. And she’s, you know, playing the long game. You mean this is some kind of ploy? The woman’s nothing if not relentless. Okay, so what if she set this up with a matchmaker to make sure she’d end up alone with you again?

Then she uses the time to, I don’t know, Soften you up. You did say there was wine involved. So she keeps pouring. You keep talking. And eventually, she tries again to get you to confess to what she’s convinced you did. But since I didn’t do what she’s convinced I did, there’ll be no confession. Right, I know that.

But do you really want to get involved with someone who’s just trying to trick you? Even if that were the case, since I’m innocent, I have nothing to worry about, right?

So, sounds like Lee is really killing the mood over there, huh? Yeah, you could say that. How do I feel for the guy? I mean, his life’s been kind of a hot mess lately. Yeah, but having him live there with you and Wendy is not exactly conducive to romance. No, it is not. Well, the nurse gave Sloan my test results by mistake, so she knew my good news because she opened them before I did. Yeah, Sloan didn’t mention that part. I just assumed that you told her. No, no I didn’t. I guess that must have been the mix up. Look, all I care about is that I’m having a healthy baby and there’s no genetic…

Abnormalities on either EJ’s side or mine, which is a huge relief. Nicole, I’m really happy for you. So, here’s hoping that Sloane and I get the same great news about our baby.

I just wanted to make sure our baby was okay. And when the nurse handed me the envelope, I assumed it was mine, and I opened it up.

Not a genetic match. Dear God. The baby’s not EJ’s. It’s Eric’s.

You know, you told me you wanted to talk to me. This doesn’t feel like talking. It feels like you’re giving me a third degree. I was just curious.

Sorry. I, I’m just upset about my brother. It’s, it’s okay. I’m sorry. You know what? I shouldn’t have brought it up. It was very insensitive of me. Listen, I care about you.

She replaced his world with a world full of lies. And worst of all, she might have cost Abe the chance to ever remember who he is.

Didn’t the doctor say it was going to take a few days? Yes, and the results weren’t ready, but… Just, I’m feeling a lot better now. You are? Yeah. See, I, I ran into Nicole while I was there. So yeah, I decided I was um, done with the constant hookups and the meaningless sex and got myself some much needed therapy. Try and find out why I was so afraid of commitment. Well, good for you Alex. You really, you give me hope for the rest of your gender.

Eric’s wanted to be a father for a long time and it was just recently he thought he was the father of Nicole’s baby. But he isn’t. Nope, no he isn’t. BJ is the father of Nicole’s baby.

So let me guess, um, you got pregnant. To give Eric the baby that he didn’t have with Nicole.

I am not doing this just to make Eric happy. Having someone’s baby is a pretty serious favor. It’s nice of you to offer. I’m not being nice. I want this baby. Very bad. Both my parents are dead and Colin’s going away to prison. I just looked around and kind of had an a ha moment and realized I don’t have any family around.

Melinda Trask tried to trick you into a confession? While she was recording us, yeah. Did her damnedest to try to get me to admit that I was behind the plot to kill Stefan DiMera. Isn’t that my contractment? It would have been, if I’d done anything wrong. I’m completely innocent. As you know. Wow, you were right about that being a bad date.

Yeah. The odd part is that, before I figured out what she was up to, I mean, we were actually hitting it off. Bonding over the, the food and the wine, our shared issues with Stefan and Gabby. Sounds like you have a fair amount in common, then. Yeah, um, I suppose so. So maybe you should give her another chance.

So, you and Sloane are having a baby together. Congratulations, man. Thank you. I’m really excited about it. You know, actually, I’m more excited than I thought I would be. Is she, am I supposed to have her go to the police and say she was lying when she actually wasn’t? What kind of father would, would, would make his kid do that? Father? What kind of father are you in prison? Eric, even if I ask her to change the statement, I’m really not sure that she would do it. She’s under Kristen’s control that much?

Seems so, yeah. Maybe she called the police on you. I know she had no idea what she was setting into motion and how they’re basing her statement by arresting you? Come on! It’s not just her statement, Eric. It’s also the fact that Kristen backed it up. Of course she did.

Okay, so what to do? Belle’s talking to Kristen right now. And I’m hoping to God she gets through to her. I’ll give you one thing. You got guts. But I asked you last night to salvage Brady and my… shared custody agreement, and you turned me down flat. And now you want me to help you get him out of this? Okay, I was angry on Brady’s behalf when I turned you down.

Okay, well, guess what? I’m angry on my behalf because I thought Brady and I had a deal. And then he pulled a gun on me. Brady was out of his mind with worry about Rachel when he turned you down. And you know what? You would have done the same thing if the tables were turned. You know what? Probably, Belle.

Probably. But it wasn’t me. It was him. So tell me this, Kristen. What exactly do you get by sending Brady to prison?

You want to examine me? In a manner of speaking. I’m just trying to get a full picture of your child’s health, which means we have to consider several factors. Ah, yes, I understand. Of course, of course, whatever you need. Which probably doesn’t involve jumping up in the stirrups, right doc? No, it doesn’t. I just need a sample of your DNA, Mr.

So you think Brady might actually be prosecuted? Attempted murder might not be a serious charge in DiMera land, but it is to the law. Come on, Kristen. Because that would be having both parents a part of her life.

Right? Mm hmm. So, what do you want me to do, Belle? Why don’t you just come out and say it? I want you to recant your statement to Detective Hunter, and not send the father of your child to prison.

Listen, I didn’t realize how bad things had gotten between you and Kristen. I just, I wish there was some way I could help. Look, man, I got myself into this. Well, I love her too. So while you were on a date with this guy, you tried to record him confessing that he wants Stefan to be our dad?

Yep. Wow, and I thought I was ballsy. Well, it’s not something that I planned to do. I didn’t even know Lee was the man I was meeting until he showed up here. I’m sorry, I don’t follow. Uh, we were set up by a matchmaker and he and I were actually getting along in spite of the fact that I tried to send him to prison.

Wow, and that wasn’t, I don’t know, like an obstacle? No, it was when we first realized we were each other’s date. But, you know, we had so much in common and I found myself opening up to him and I was having fun. And I think he was too. And I think there was chemistry between us. And then I… And then you saw an opportunity to get a confession and jumped on it.

Yeah. And he caught on. Really quickly. And he ran out of here. I should have known trying to trap him was going to blow up in my face.

So if you were having fun and there was chemistry between the two of you guys, I mean, why’d you do it?

I’m sorry, did you just say I should give Melinda another chance? Okay, look, she shouldn’t have recorded you. Okay, that was obviously not a cool move. But, maybe she was just making an impulsive decision. You know, one that she regrets. And she’s been through a lot in the last few years. Been through what?

She had a daughter who was a nurse at the hospital. She had died in a freak accident. My God, that’s so sad. Yeah. And her name was Haley. She was a good friend of mine. She was, uh, She was smart, kind, and hopeful. But, she got her life cut short in a horrible way.

Losing a child must be the worst pain in the world. But that doesn’t change how I feel about last night. If I never see Melinda Trask again, it’ll be too soon.

You want my DNA? It’s nothing invasive, as I said. A simple cheek swab, that’s all. Um, but we already… We already did the paternity testing, so what more do you need to know? Uh, it says here that the hospital has DNA test results from Eric Brady, but nothing from Mr. DiMera. Why is that?

There is something that I didn’t tell you. Dr. Sorensen, when I found out I was pregnant, I was 99% sure that EJ was the father. But there was a slight chance that it could have been Eric Brady. I see. But once we ruled out that chance, we knew that… EJ was the father, obviously. Right, but I’d still like a DNA analysis on him.

Uh, why would you need that? I’d be looking for things like genetic markers for inherited diseases that you don’t have but could pass on to a child of yours. It would help me to know if an intervention would be necessary while the baby’s in utero. Now the goal of our appointment today is to ensure you…

Have a healthy baby. Well, we can’t argue with that, can we?

Yeah, I was taken aback when someone said she wanted to have our baby. Which goes to show you, people can change. They definitely can. Well, maybe Kristen will surprise you. I doubt that. But, I am happy for you. I know how long you have wanted this. And judging from the way your nieces and nephews feel about you, I think you are going to be one hell of a good dad.

Great. And you really think that he’s going to sign? I think Brady’s gonna be very appreciative of what you’re doing for him, so yes, I think he’ll be more than willing to agree to the terms.

I don’t know what made me decide to record Lee. Instinct, maybe? I smelled blood and I just, I went for it. Yeah, I’ve been there a time or two. There’s just this part of me that just always needs to win, no matter what. And in this case, it overpowered my want to have a real human connection. I have to admit that when Lee stormed out of here, I was eating that lukewarm salmon alone.

Look. I know Lee Shin might not be the most morally upstanding person. But, he sure is handsome. And he’s really rich. And as you saw last night, he can be pretty shrewd when he needs to be. Thank you again for coming back to Salem on such short notice. I had to put up with having a gourmet lunch served to me on your private jet. Poor me. Does that mean you could do me another favor? Depends what it is. It’s just Nicole. Who doesn’t want to know the sex of the baby, but frankly, I do. Rafe and Jada just left and hopefully they will end this nightmare once and for all. She’s, she’s had daddy all this time and when I found out I, I went straight to her apartment but she drugged me as soon as I got there and, and before I could get him out of there.
