[ Monitor beeping ]

[ Curtis sighs ] What do you feel, uncle curtis? I don’t feel a thing. I can’t feel anything. None of you seem surprised that I can’t feel my legs. [ Normal voice ]

[ Door opens, closes ]

Hi. Hi. I… I know I promised that I wouldn’t come so soon. I am so glad you did. I really tried to keep my promise, I did. I know you wanted to feel more settled, but I had to see you. I miss you. The bullet fragments I removed were lodged very close to your spine. You were under heavy sedation during the procedure. Every patient’s body reacts differently when that wears off. So the anesthesia is why I can’t feel my legs.

[ Sighs ] That’s one of the possibilities, mr. Ashford. Curtis, okay? Curtis. Now, please, cut it to me straight, doc.

[ Sighs ] What are the other possibilities? I still need to look at some of the test results and scans that we took after the surgery, and then I’ll be able to better answer your questions, curtis. I’ll leave you with your family now.

[ Door opens, closes ] Oh. [ Sniffles ] Did you hear what dr. Barnsdall said? Very few people would have even survived that surgery, uncle.

[ Sniffles ] If aunt stella was here, I-I think she would call it a miracle, right? Mm-hmm.

[ Exhales sharply ] A miracle. I am here to see my client, sasha gilmore. And, yes, I know that sasha was formerly represented by martin grey, but he asked me to take over when he was called away. Isn’t he back? He is, but maxie felt that sasha needed… a killer shark. …Compassion and complete dedication. I will take care of everything, and I know why you’re here. And, no, you may not interrogate my client in her current state. My daughter-in-law is not a criminal. You — you — you saw how gentle she was. So, um, let me try and put your mind at ease. I haven’t spent a lot of time with avery, but the little time that I have spent with her, she’s lovely. And I-I-I think that she looks at me and sees me as not just her mom’s friend, but maybe her friend a little, as well. Avery sees the good in everybody. That’s wonderful. She get that from you?

[ Chuckles lightly ] Is that a trait she’s inherited from you, sonny? I always give people a chance. Just the one? What happens if people disappoint you? What happens when you lose a patient? Well, I think I can speak for every doctor in the world when I say that it’s, uh… it’s very hard to lose a patient. You just got to move forward. It’s sad, but some people are beyond helping. You just got to move on.

[ Sighs ] I am lucky to be alive. And I’m grateful for everything that everyone here at the hospital has done for me.

[ Sighs ] But I want to walk out of this hospital on my own, and if that’s not going to happen — that’s not what dr. Barnsdall said, uncle curtis. Yet. No one can walk right after spinal surgery. Portia’s right.

[ Sniffles ] Patients going through the same kind of surgery can take weeks before they’re able to walk. Mm-hmm. How long ’til they felt their legs again?

[ Door opens, closes ]

[ Exhales deeply ] It’s gonna be okay. Yes, it will. Once I get my life back. All of it. Look, I take no pleasure in sasha’s current predicament, but cody bell’s the real victim here. Oh, come on, robert. We both know there was no intent. Sasha never meant to hurt the guy. She stabbed him with a paring knife. It’s well documented that sasha has not, shall we say, been herself ever since losing her baby and her husband. And might I point out that heather webber, who actually killed sasha’s husband, came perilously close to killing yours truly, so I would think you would have a little more…

[ Stammers ] I’m not here to persecute your client, diane. Good. Why are you here? Well, after maxie spoke to you, she then called her uncle robert. Ah. So maxie asked you to look out for sasha to make sure that she was treated fairly. Who’d have thunk it, you and I on the same team? Ha, ha, ha, ha.

[ Elevator dings ] Shall we? Yep.

[ Clears throat ] Sasha. I can’t get this off. Don’t worry about that. We’ll take care of that later. Now… tell me what you remember. There was a pool. Yes, yes. What happened at the pool? [ Breathing shakily ] I don’t understand. Cyrus is a murderer. I just assumed you would be separated from people like him. Where did you run into him? He found me. You do. We don’t know what kind of sick game cyrus is playing. You gotta stay away from him. You do not want to get on his bad side. Carly, you don’t have to worry about me. Were you able to review all of curtis’ latest test results? Yes, and the final scans we took after his surgery. And? Will my uncle ever be able to walk again?

So sonny has people watching your back, huh? You don’t sound completely surprised by that. Vintage sonny. To protect me? Sonny knows that you’re a good guy, and deep down, he knows you’re good for me. Sonny and I will always be family, and at the end of the day, nothing’s more important to sonny than family. Huh. So is this his way of welcoming me into the family?

[ Laughs ] I wouldn’t go that far. Hmm. But I don’t care, I’m glad he’s doing it. Well, I’m glad he’s doing it, too, if it keeps you from worrying. I’m still gonna worry. I just want you to come home. Nothing’s more important. I’m working on that. So, what else is going on? Uh, willow came home. Really? Yeah. That’s great. It is great. And the only reason she’s okay, because you rescued liesl. The only reason willow’s okay is because of you. Well, that doesn’t ma– I’m just happy that she’s home where she belongs. She said, “you never have enough time with the people you love.” And she was right. And I realized how much time I was wasting, and I came to find you. No. No, I-I’m not sorry that I went to the pool looking for you. I’m only sorry that I never got to say what I went to say. No, unh-unh. No. My daughter-in-law is in no condition to be hounded by lawyers right now. You might be sasha’s guardian, but you’re not her gatekeeper, gladys. I’m assuming she’s in there? She’s getting the treatment she needs from her shrink. I’ll handle this. Okay, I’m sure you mean well, but she is in really bad shape, and if you make her more upset, I swear I’ll — you’ll do what? Cyrus was gonna hurt gladys like he hurt me, and I couldn’t let that happen, so I-I saw the knife, and I picked it up — sasha, stop right there. Not one more word.

[ Door closes ] And you. Turn off that recording device right now. Austin and i have only had a few dates. Of course you don’t see us as a couple. Well, on the plus side, he’s nothing like nikolas. Yeah, well, that’s for sure. He is very — alive? What? Well, don’t get me wrong, you and nikolas, you had some connection and chemistry and… but nikolas always seemed like he was brooding and he was always serious all the time to me. At least austin — I don’t know, he’s mysteriously expressive.

[ Chuckles ] Yes, well, he’s — he’s definitely more alive. Well, he’s very attentive to his patients, because that guy earlier, gordon, was hostile, and he — you know, austin could’ve blown him off, but he took the time to, you know, deal with the problem. Well, what happened when you went out after him? I’m pretty sure… that his patient… understands the situation.

[ Door opens ] Uh, okay.

[ Laughter ] What did I miss? Oh, uh, sonny was just complimenting your bedside manner, but I’d say I’m a much better gauge of that.

[ Cellphone rings ] Gladys, I’m in the middle of something. No, sonny, it’s sasha. She’s been arrested. What the hell for? She’s getting a psych evaluation at G.H. Right now. [ Stammers ]

[ Grunts ] Alright, I’ll be right there. Wait, what’s going on? Uh, sasha’s in trouble. I gotta go to G.H. Well, I’m going with you. I, uh — I’m so sorry. No, no, no. Go. Please go. Yeah, I hope everything’s alright. Okay, we’ll talk about moving on with the nanny and all that. Uh-huh, yeah.

[ Sighs ]

[ Door closes ] Well… disaster averted. For now. It’s my turn.

[ Cellphone ringing ] Don’t answer.

[ Scoffs ] You know I have to. Boss. I know it’s your day off, but something came up. What do you need? Surveillance. Port charles grill. Austin gatlin-holt.

I love the sentiment. I really, really do. But are you saying that if you hadn’t spoken to sam, you wouldn’t — it’s — you know what? It’s done. We’re here. And what I want you to know right now is, no matter what happens, my feelings for you won’t change. And once I’m back on my feet… and you will be. You will be. But I need you to listen to your doctors. And your wife.

[ Breathing heavily ] As you can see, doctor, we were successful in removing the bullet and every fragment. You always do good work, dr. Barnsdall. But was it enough? There’s really nothing for you to worry about. Something is going on. It’s the financial penalty from the sec, isn’t it, carly? I can handle it, alright? I don’t want you even thinking about it. I don’t want

you thinking about it. That was a huge fine. I don’t want this weighing you down on top of everything else. Look, it’s really simple. I can sell aurora. No, you can’T. No, you can’t, because diane made it crystal clear that I can’t accept anything from you, michael, or sonny. I could be hit with even a bigger fine, or worse.

[ Sighs ] Well, diane knows what she’s talking about. Yeah. Did she come up with a plan b? Anything? She did — she did, but she said it’s gonna take a while, and it doesn’t matter because I-I have resources, okay? Tell me you’re not selling the house. The house is too big for me. It’s not just a house, carly. That’s — that’s your home. It was a home I had with sonny. I mean, come on, yeah, I have a lot of great memories of the kids growing up there, but those memories aren’t gonna go away just because I sell the house. I want to focus on the future and getting you out of here and sharing that future with you, and no piece of real estate’s going to change that. There’s nothing I can say to change your mind, is there? I have to do this. I mean, come on. Life is too fragile to wait around. You think you have everything under control, you think the people you love are safe, and then just like that… what? What happened? Do you really have to go? I think you already know the answer. Yeah, I-I saw her a few weeks ago, and I told her that she was ready to be on her own — to end your guardianship. What changed, gladys? What changed? Ms. Miller. Police brought ms. Gilmore in for a psych evaluation. As her lawyer, I’m sure you understand what that entails and what my responsibilities are. I’m sorry, but at this point, my hands are tied. I just got off a call with judge palmer. And? Robert, please. Let me tell them. Sasha needs help. She’s being sent to ferncliff hospital for the criminally insane. I need to make something very clear, okay? What’s that? We are not a couple, and we — and we’re definitely not “lovers.” What happened at wyndemere makes us exactly lovers. Makes nothing. Makes us nothing. We’re nothing. I ju– I had A… I had a little moment of weakness, you know? I’ve — I’ve regretted it ever since. I’ve only regretted that we haven’t done it again since.

[ Groans ] You know, you have an inflated opinion… of your sexual prowess. And I assume, as a doctor, you have a need for that hand that’s creeping up my thigh? You wouldn’T. I’m assuming that you sang my praises when I was away from the table.

[ Chuckles ] Your willingness to help bury dead husbands? I told sonny as little as possible about you, and then only what I thought he would actually believe. Then how come he didn’t buy it? Carly, what happened? Curtis was shot. What?! Is — no, no. He’s in the hospital. How bad is it? It was touch and go. I heard this morning he’s out of surgery, he’s in recovery, but I don’t know his condition. Who shot him? They don’t know. It was at the metro court pool. Was anybody else hurt? No. No, luckily. Thank god. I don’t get it. I mean, who would want to kill curtis? The pcpd isn’t sure he was the target.

[ Grunts ]

[ Breathing heavily ]

[ Exhales deeply ] Morning. I told you I wouldn’t be long. Glad you’re back.

[ Chuckles ] Could you, uh, make sure they schedule for me that therapy session as soon as possible? Sweetheart, it’s way too soon for something like that, okay? Oh, it’s never too soon. Look, I am not going to sit in this bed and wait around for another miracle. I know it’s gonna take hard work, but I am here for it. Because no matter what it takes, I am going to walk and stand up on my own two legs. And who knows? You know, someday, I can take you in my arms, and we can dance the night away again. What do you think about that?

[ Voice breaking ] I absolutely love it. Yeah. There’s something that — that I-I want to tell you. Okay, what’s — what’s wrong?

[ Sniffles ] Dr. Barnsdall, he got the latest tests and scans back, and he consulted with three other surgeons… …and none of them think that you’ll be able to walk again.

I’m so sorry. I promise you, as soon as I know anything about curtis, I will get that information to you. Thank you. You said that — that portia was with him. Do you know who else was out there? Uh, your attorney — zeke, jordan ashford, dante, anna, and sonny. Well, um… curtis is such a good man. They’d better find out who did this. Yeah. Time’s up. I will come back as soon as I can. [ Exhales deeply ] Doctors have been wrong before. And this isn’t a death sentence. You know, we almost lost you. We almost lost you for good. And dr. Barnsdall said that there’s no reason that you can’t live an absolutely normal — portia, stop. Stop. Just stop. But we all love you, honey, no matter what.

[ Sobs quietly ] I need some time. Of course. Of course you do, yeah. Alone. I understand.

[ Sniffles, sobs ]

[ Sighs ]

[ Cellphone rings ] Hello? This is josslyn jacks. Who’s this? Excuse me? Wha– what are you talking about? You need to understand, sonny — he rarely makes snap judgments, but when he does, look out. So you don’t think that he’s judged me yet? No, probably not. But I-I think I managed to convince him that he has nothing to worry about with you spending time around avery. Hmm. Well, he’s not the only one that can read people, and I get the distinct feeling that he’s on to us. Nina:

[ Whimpers ]

[ Breathing heavily ] I was — I was a patient at ferncliff. It’s horrible. I promise you, I will fight this tooth and nail. She’s going to a good place, right? It’s exactly where your daughter-in-law should be. She’ll get all the help she needs. Isn’t that what we all want?

And just so you know, our attraction to one another may just end up saving our lives. Nina: Are you two sure you want a double date?

[ Beeping continues ] Mom will tie you to this bed herself if you try to help with the investigation.

[ Chuckles ] Portia. Where’s portia? Tj: How’s uncle curtis? His vitals are stable. Okay. Trina and marshall are in there with him right now. The nurse said two people at a time. Right. Has dr. Barnsdall seen him since he regained consciousness? He’s been paged. Okay. You were in the operating room with curtis. You know that there were complications. What if there are residual effects? Who ava spends time with is her business. Who avery spends time with is my business. [ Inhales deeply ] I was so thrilled when they told me that you wanted to see me. You look beautiful. Motherhood becomes you. That ace is so big now,

[ Chuckles ] I can’t believe that I’m actually here. I swore to myself that… I would never let you see me again or meet ace. Yeah, I understand. You know, I made a couple of mistakes [Chuckles] But I am so glad that you’re giving me a second chance. No, that’s not why I’m here. I still think you’re the same vile, reprehensible person. [Chuckles] Right? Yeah. Interrupting us like that. Yeah, well, I guess we’re both involved with men who are in high demand. Huh. [ Chuckles ] Well, you — you always come first with me ’cause we got no secrets. What about you, ava, and austin? Any secrets?

[ Police radio chatter ] You’re being charged with assault with a deadly weapon. You better hope he makes it. I would never hurt cody. Gladys: Okay, okay. Detective. Look, she doesn’t belong in jail. You can see she’s not well. Ms. Jones, I know you were married to a good cop. So you can see how convenient this act is. No, wait. I-it’s not an act.

[ Radio chatter continues ] Look. See? She’s on antidepressants. You know the effect they can have on people. It’s true. Sasha gilmore has a very well-documented history of mental breaks following the death of her infant son. And you know this because…? I was interviewing her earlier for crimson about her recovery.

[ Sighs ] You lost your baby, miss gilmore? Liam… he left us. Then brando. Who’s brando? My son. Her…husband. Her dead husband.

What the hell was that, man? You — you can’t do that. You can’t just confront me in a restaurant. You take it up with your cousin. He gave me no choice. What’s mason done now? It’s what he hasn’t done. He hasn’t paid for my services. So you and nina have no secrets, huh? Well, that’s got to be a first for you, sonny. Well, austin — I — we, um…like a little mystery. So that means you don’t know much about the guy —

[ Stammers ] That is not what ava said. No, I — I just want to know if he can handle himself. And because, look, that gordon guy, he seemed a-a bit hostile, so… austin knows what he’s doing. Well, didn’t he face down the quartermaines? Yes. Austin demanded his birthright. The quartermaines strong-armed him, and he just decided it wasn’t worth the fight to be a part of that particular clan. Their sense of entitlement has no limits. I mean, michael isn’t that way, though.

[ Clears throat ] I’ll be right back.

[ Exhales deeply ]

[ Sighs ] This is going great. What was she like? Tough. But loving. It felt like home. I bet she was still beautiful.

[ Monitor beeping ] You said you were — you — you were there with tommy, too? Yeah, but I didn’t see him. I could feel him. I’m still trying to process, pop.

[ Breathes deeply ] But it felt — it felt realer than a dream. There are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of, son. I miss her, too, pop. You were happy there, weren’t you?

[ Sighs ]

[ Beeping continues ]

care for trina the way that you say that you do and you are stuck with esme, I mean, wouldn’t the selfless, mature thing to do be to just let trina go? Uh, we were talking ab out putting family first. Mm. Yeah. Yeah. That’s definitely something that your mom does, huh?

[ Sighs ] She’s a fighter. There’s nothing she wouldn’t do to protect the people she loves. Sweetheart, from the very first moment that you were born, I loved you so much. But I’d already made some mistakes in my life that would have so complicated things for you, and I just wanted you to have the best life possible. That’s what a mother wants for her baby. Even if it means that she’s got to make the ultimate sacrifice to make that happen. You really believe that, don’t you? It’s true. It was all worth it to protect you. Oh, no, no, no, no. Going around town and murdering people with a hook does not qualify as an act of love. Look, I-I might have been a little overzealous, but I saw those people as a threat to my daughter. I had to protect you the way that you would protect ace. Oh, no, I am raising ace. You abandoned me. No. I made a sacrifice for you. And now, y-you’re doing what you have to do for your baby. No, I am nothing like you.

[ Softly ] Sweetheart. That’s why you’re here, isn’t it? You finally realized just how much we have in common. I never meant for you to overhear me talking about being your surrogate. And it’s possible that I may have been a bit too impulsive that night. That night?

[ Chuckles ] Alright. Most nights. But you know that about me. Okay, so you should also know that I would never think that just because I can have a baby naturally and you…can’t that that makes me some kind of hero. I just thought if I could give my sister, my little sister what she so desperately wants, then I want to do that. But you didn’t even ask me… if that’s what I wanted. Fair. And I know you meant to help me, but I-I should have been the first person you talked to about it. I know you have a big heart, krissy, but… but I also have a big mouth. And sometimes when I get excited about something, I have a tendency to… word vomit. Yeah. The kids at the shelter are so lucky. They’re so lucky to have you. But I’m your sister. I’m — I’m not some stranger you’re trying to get off the street. Someone to see you, mr. Bell. Hey. Thank you. Ouch. Did you set a new record for stitches? The procedure has become all too familiar. [ Sighs ] How much trouble are you in this time?

[ Exhales deeply ] For once, I’m not in any trouble. But sasha is.

Detective bennett: We need to do a psych evaluation. I’ll call ahead. They’ll be waiting for you at G.H. Cuff her. Wait, wait. Are — are handcuffs really necessary? Yeah.

[ Police radio chatter ] Everything’s going to be okay, sasha. I-I-I-I’ll come with you. You can’t ride in the car with her. Mirandize her on the way.

[ Sighs ] You should probably clean up before you head to the hospital.

[ Radio chatter continues ] Sasha stabbed you? That doesn’t make any sense. You’re telling me. She would never hurt anyone.

[ Slurps ] I thought exactly the same thing until she stuck a bar knife into my side at the pool, called me cyrus. Cyrus — cyrus renault? He terrorized her a couple years ago. Do I look like the guy? No, not — not remotely. And besides, he’s been in pentonville for a while now.

[ Sighs ] I could see in her eyes something was off. And right before that, she got accused of — of shoplifting. Oh, wow. I guess her recovery has hit a setback.

[ Monitor beeping ] I’m sorry that you’ve had so much to deal with lately. I know that greenland wasn’t exactly a picnic… spencer. …A-and since you’ve gotten back, you’ve had to — spencer. I’m fine. I just feel like I keep letting you down. I just need to know. Do I make your life better or… just harder?

[ Monitor beeping ] You scared me.

[ Sighs ] I thought I was going to lose you.

[ Door closes ] Thought I was going to lose you.

[ Beeping continues ] Nothing matters now but you getting better.

[ Weakly ] Yeah. Dr. Nephew.

[ Laughs ] See, dr. Barnsdall. He even has his bad sense of humor back. Dr. Barnsdall: You look and sound good, mr. Ashford. But I’d still like to do a few routine tests.

[ Beeping continues ] What kind of tests? You are my little sister. But you have always had your life so much more put together than mine. Y-you just have this ability to work hard, figure things out, and accomplish it. Y-you never — you never needed me.

[ Chuckles softly ] That’s not true. Yeah, it is true. And it’s okay. You have comforted me and counseled me more times than I can count. And… I just thought that finally I might be able to help you. Maybe you actually needed me this time… and I could really help you in a meaningful way. All I ever need… is for you to be my big sister. Maybe the old esme who came to port charles was a bit like you. But I am not that person anymore. And I would never hurt anyone. And I would never abandon my child the way that you abandoned me. No. I knew that if ryan and I raised you, there was no way you could flourish. Ah, well, I didn’t exactly “flourish” with the prince family, so… they were stable and they had money. They gave you the traditional upbringing you deserved. Well, then, why did I tell everyone that they were cold and withheld any emotion they might have had for me? Well, that’s what you remember? N-no, but I — that’s what spencer cassadine’s been telling you, isn’t it? He has been good to me. Spencer loves ace —

[ Scoffs ] Ace is his half-brother, and he’s half cassadine. That’s all that spencer cares about! And he’s willing to just ignore the rest of ace’s bloodline. Hey, bloodline does not determine who we turn out to be. Sweetheart…

[ Breathes deeply ] …I know that ryan and i had our faults, but maybe what we gave you, what the princes gave you… helped you to become the wonderful woman that you are today. Ace is never going to know anything about my parents, real or adoptive. Spencer and I have decided that we will co-parent him and raise ace to be his own person.

[ Scoffs ]

[ Laughs ] You and ace and that pampered punk as a fairy tale family. Hey, well, any family is better than mine, so… yeah, and how does that fairy tale end

[Scoffs] When spencer finds out exactly what happened to your adoptive parents? I’m the last guy on earth that would ever defend my cousin. I know mason. I-I know exactly who that guy is. But he pays his debts. Oh, he did pay me for the service I did at general hospital, but I did some extra — no, no, no, stop. The bottom line is, he’s ducking me, and I want my money now! Well, then, talk to my cousin, ’cause it’s got nothing to do with me. It has everything to do with you because you’re in on it with him. I know that… and you know that. We’re done here. [ Chuckles ] So, patients don’t always understand that doctors — we’re just people. We’re just human beings. We can’t — we can’t help everybody with everything, and so sometimes they get angry and they act out. I didn’t know the medical profession was so hazardous. Well, you know, I mean, I made it this far, so I guess I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing. You want to go back to the ladies? Yeah, definitely. My adoptive parents died in an accident. Yeah, well, accidents “happen.” Same way that that bartender oz haggerty’s overdose “happened.” Are you saying that I had something to do with my parents’ deaths?

[ Sighs ] Look, never mind. Th– th– that’s all in the past. I shouldn’t have brought that up. You know, no. I’m sorry — you are just trying to get in my head, and it was obviously a mistake to come here, so… no. The mistake is caring what people think about you. You don’t need spencer’s family. Yeah, except I do. I do. If I want any chance of living down the things that people have said I’ve done. Honey. I promise you, the people in port charles don’t forget, and they don’t forgive. Do you know why I named you esme? Because it means “to love.” And I love you. And I accept you exactly how you are. Yeah, for whatever that’s worth. [ Sighs ] …From now on, no matter how good I think my intentions are, I’m not going to assume anything. I will wait for people to tell me what they need. okay, sasha, I spoke with the crimson journalist who’s going to be interviewing you about the tone of the piece. Elyse happens to be a good friend of mine, and she’s very sympathetic to your situation. Not to mention, she loves a sob story with someone coming back from being down and out. Not that you’re a sob story. Nope. I am just a thief. No, you’re not that, either. You’ve just had a rough last couple of years. And in the interest of transparency, you want to tell your side of the story about what happened at logan’S. Right. I am coming forward on my own volition to take responsibility for my actions and to speak about my recent mental health issues. Um…maybe say “journey,” unless you think that’s too woo-woo? I like it. Okay, then maybe not. I’m gonna say this one last time — you do not have to do this interview. The story that broke was a blind piece about a model shoplifting. Nobody knows it was you. Well, not yet, anyway. Sasha, I trust your impulse to get ahead of the story

But now, I’m — I’m wrestling with something difficult and painful and maybe even life-changing, except what — what is our family doing again? Right, we’re all tiptoeing around kristina’s feelings. Molly, I never really thought of it that way. Yeah, because none of us do. Because kristina has to make everything about her. Except this time, I’m the one with the health condition, not kristina. Yet, what are we all talking about, hmm? We’re all talking about kristina wanting to be the surrogate for me and tj. Molly. Molly, molly, molly. Stop. Look, I-I know you are upset, and I really want to be there for you, but maybe it’s not kristina that you have a problem with. In what world is kristina not my problem? Because you’re talking about a family dynamic that has obviously been bothering you for a really long time, so maybe your issue isn’t with kristina, and maybe it’s more with me and mom because we take you for granted and we spend more time focused on kristina. Any chance that that’s what’s making you so upset? She hinted that there’s something going on with you… “she hinted.” …It’s your story to tell, and that she doesn’t want to betray your confidence. Did she or did she not ask you to come and talk to me? Alexis suggested that we have a conversation. There’s no harm in that. No, of course. It’s just — it’s so obvious that no one trusts me to make decisions about my own life. This year has been so, so crazy, and I just don’t think I’ve been making enough time for you. Well, it’s kind of hard to make time for your dad when you’re being held hostage in greenland by some maniac. But ever since I got home, I-I just feel like all of my energy has been focused on figuring out my relationship with curtis, and I just feel like we haven’t been connecting the same way. Not since we got those dna test results back. It’s a fair statement. But we promised each other before we got those results that nothing was going to change between us, and I think we just need to be honest. We’re struggling with this, aren’t we? I know that trina has been here since curtis was shot. And I know that I should have been here to support her. I really do wish that I could have… visited more. Yes, I-I mean, I haven’t seen much of you. I wanted to respect trina’s boundaries. Not to mention your extremely complicated home life. You know, it was one thing for you to be living with esme while laura and kevin were supervising, but now that they’re gone looking for nikolas… it’s not just me and esme. And the only reason that I’m living there is so that I can help take care of my little brother ace. And that’s got to be a lot of responsibility. Oh, yes. More than I ever could have imagined. But I’m very lucky because trina has been incredibly patient and supportive of me. Yeah, that sounds like my daughter.

[ Chuckles ] Yeah? I mean, she’s always been one to see the best in anyone. That’s right. Even the people who don’t deserve it, like me. But I can promise you, dr. Robinson, that no matter what happens with my little brother, I could never hurt trina because she is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Really? Yes, without a doubt. Well, then, can you answer me this? Can you honestly say that you’re the best thing that’s happened to trina?

I hope you know that. Yeah, well, you might be the only one. You got to help me out, okay? Because if — if this is not about the foundation, if this is some personal issue, I’m flying blind here. You got to give me some details and tell me what — what’s going on. It’s — let’s just say I… had an idea to make — make an offer to help molly. Help how? What do you mean? They said that molly wouldn’t want me to interfere and I didn’t think this through and I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Did you know what you were getting into? No. But I would have figured it out. I mean, I would have. And that’s not even the problem. The problem is, molly found out what I wanted to do, and it turns out mom and sam were right because for whatever reason, me offering to help molly, that was the worst thing that i have ever done in my whole life. This isn’t about you and mom. It’s about kristina. From her warped perspective, all she has to do is offer to be my surrogate, and all my problems are solved. It’s like she’s saying, “oh, let me have a baby for you and tj, and everyone will congratulate me for being the savior to this poor, barren couple.” And then once again, kristina is the center of attention! No. You need to take a step back because that is not at all the way kristina presented her idea of being a surrogate for you and tj. She was just really focused on wanting the two of you to be parents. Was it an impulsive idea? Yeah, probably 100%, yes, but not for a second — I don’t — I don’t doubt that she had good intentions. You’re taking her side?! No, I am not taking her side! You’re both my sisters. I’m just trying to understand. But no way would kristina ever want to hurt you. She might not have wanted to hurt me, but she really did. Okay, but you weren’t there for the entire conversation, molly. By the end of that conversation, kristina had agreed to wait to see if you and tj wanted to decide to explore surrogacy or not. And if you didn’t want to do that, then kristina would have been totally fine with that. You don’t think it would have become something about me rejecting her, me not trusting her? Come on. I don’t know, molly. I-I can’t predict the future, but I’ve got to say, I am really surprised by your attitude right now. Oh, you’re surprised that I’m angry? No, I’m not surprised that you’re angry. It doesn’t make sense that you’re directing all your anger at kristina. Because having a kid isn’t a big deal to her! She doesn’t even want a kid! But I do, and I can’t have one. But she can. As I’m sure sasha was just explaining, um, there were a few misunderstandings about what happened at logan’s that we all want to clear up. Uh, see, we recently adjusted the details in the loaning contract between logan’s and deception, and sasha’s been out for a while, so she wasn’t quite caught up. So actually, this whole thing is just some big non-story. [ Chuckling ] Sasha’s just a little confused, that’s all. Sasha just wasn’t clear on the terms of the agreement, that’s all. Makes sense to me. But, you know, I was really hoping that sasha would speak for herself. Not just about what happened at logan’s, but about how you’re coping with the return to the spotlight. Sasha, you have been through so much. Loss of your husband, the loss of your child, and you had a very public breakdown on the home & heart shopping channel. With all that pain, our readers really want to know, how do you keep going? I wouldn’t say we’re struggling. Okay, yeah. I’ve been holding back a bit. You know, I knew you had a lot going on. I didn’t want to be a burden. But you’re not a burden. When I was angry at mom for lying to me when I was trying to sift through my feelings with curtis, I just… I assumed that she would always be there for me. Because that’s the truth. There’s nothing you could say or do that would change how I feel about you. Besides, you know, it’s that time in your life where you’re going through that spending less time with your parents, it’s natural. You’re growing up, you’re finding your way in the world. Tough time for a parent, but, you know, even though we know it’s gonna happen eventually. But this is different with us. I’m not growing up, right? I’m — I’m — I’m trying to understand where I came from and who I am. Well… the person to help you do that is curtis. Honestly, I don’t know if I’m the best thing that’s ever happened to trina. You’d have to ask her. But I certainly know that I’m not the worst thing. Really? Because from what I recall, some of the worst moments that were in my daughter’s life, they all have one common denominator, and they all happened because of you. Where are you going?

[ Chuckles ] My daughter was arrested for creating revenge porn of her best friends, josslyn and cam. And who was the real guilty party? It was esme. Who brought esme to port charles? It was you. Trina was almost kicked out of pcu. She was put on trial, and if she was convicted, that would have haunted her for the rest of her life. I’m not disagreeing with anything that you’re saying. But trina and I, we’ve made a real effort to work past those things. Really? Y-you’ve worked past those things? Or has trina simply overlooked them? What about the fact of her following you on that boat and — and being trapped by your insane great uncle? And the only reason trina is alive is because curtis saved her, not you. Trina should probably run as far away from me as she possibly can. But what is so amazing is that she hasn’T. She’s chosen not to. Despite everything that has happened, your daughter has stood beside me. And I think that we’re good for each other. And I think that I make her happy. How can you even say that with a straight face? After everything that you’ve put my daughter through, you still chose to move in with esme, the person who caused my daughter all that pain, so no, spencer, no, absolutely not. I don’t think you make trina happy at all. Curtis is tough. He’s gonna pull through. I hope you’re right, because I don’t know what I’d do if I lost the chance to get to know him.

I wish I could. I wish it were that simple. I wish we could just say “weapons down” and have a sister heart-to-heart. But that’s not gonna happen. I know the way they see me, dad. To molly and tj, it’s like doctor and lawyer versus the college dropout. That’s just the way it is. They think that I’m irresponsible and I’m self-serving and that I just fundamentally cannot be trusted. I don’t know. Maybe they’re right. Okay, you know what? You’re beating yourself up. I’m gonna go ahead and leave just because I don’t want to pile on — I don’t want you to pile on. That’s not what I’m asking. I just don’t know what to do! Well, you know what? You said it — it was an impulsive decision to help molly. You need to figure out why you’re so willing to help her. Because I wanted to help! There’s — there’s no other reason? What about the foundation? You said you — you, uh — you know, you wanted to make a difference in port charles, huh? Right? But then you wanted to be in charge of something. You said you wanted some flexibility, and then you wanted something creative. You see what I’m saying? It wasn’t totally self-sacrificing, but doesn’t mean that your heart wasn’t in the right place, so what you need to do is figure out why it’s so important to do that. And have a conversation. You know why? Because you two love each other. It’s too important, and I don’t want anything to come in between the two of you. I keep going because, um… because I have to. I have friends and family. They’re supportive, and they give me the strength to keep putting one foot in front of the other. You know, it’s really important to have access to… what is cody still doing here? But if you really care for trina the way that you say that you do and you are stuck with esme, wouldn’t you want to spare trina from having to continually see her? I mean, wouldn’t the selfless, mature thing to do be to just let trina go?

[ Gasps ] Oh! Look, all I am asking is for you to have a little heart. I mean, you’re — you’re a cassadine, right? So you know what it’s like to be judged by your relatives even though you’ve done nothing wrong, and I am just trying to explain — I’m gonna stop you right there. That comparison is not only inappropriate and false, it’s really irritating. I am a cassadine, and my family is very complicated, which is why I did the work to confront my past. I worked really hard to establish myself as my own person, apart from my family. So a cassadine doesn’t define me, nor — nor I them. But you… on the other hand, you claim that you don’t remember your past. I-I don’T. Which doesn’t mean that you don’t have one. You do. And you have done nothing to earn that clean slate, which is why I’m sure the stories about your biological mother and father frighten you. Esme, I have worked really hard to try to be civil to you. But I don’t trust you, and nor does anyone else. Now, if you want to change that, I suggest that you take a really good, long, hard look at yourself, your past, and face what you did. Whereas if you try to kill me in my own home, I’m 100% obviously the target. Right, but I like the idea of heightened security in here, because you never can be too careful. No, no, I completely disagree. The point is for us to make the enemy believe that they can get to me. Do you see? Right.

Well, molly’s text messages have been silenced. Because she doesn’t want to hear from anybody. You know, this is not exactly staying out of it. Well, y-you are staying out of it. I’m low-key offering support here. Kristina is replying. Look, I didn’t want to come here in the first place. Chase talked me into it. So if I’m not welcome here, I don’t see any reason why I should stay. No, no, no. Wait, wait. No, no. We — we, um — we do want you here. No, no. Not if he’s gonna just turn around and walk out again. He cannot keep dropping in and out of leo’s life. It is too confusing. Well, brook lynn texted me and said that leo got hurt riding comet. That’s why eddie and I are here. Right. How’s the kid doing? Is he okay? His leg is gonna heal just fine. But like I said, he is confused, and eddie showing up like this is just gonna make things worse. Well, then we agree. I should leave. I only agreed to come because chase convinced me that I might be able to help this kid understand the situation better. I really don’t see how that’s possible when I don’t even understand it myself. Yeah, I was worried about him, too, but then, charges were dropped. He’s in the clear. I’m, uh — I’m not so sure about that. Oh. Before the charges were dropped, spinelli and i tried to help cody prove that gladys wasn’t a victim. According to cody, she tried to set him up for another crime. Wait, was it you and spinelli? You guys are the ones that — that found the waiter that got cody exonerated? No, um — no, but I’m pretty sure I-I know who did it, and it is shady times a thousand. Oh. Well, who? Selina wu. Jackson montgomery. I never thought I’d hear your voice again. Well, me neither, but I must say, it’s a very pleasant surprise, anna. Listen, I did tell lucy that I knew you, but i in no way suggested we had any kind of personal or professional relationship. And there you have it. Well, lucy doesn’t really pay attention to the finer details. She’s more of a big-picture girl.

[ Laughs ] Yeah, so I’ve found out. But what’s going on with her? I mean, I know she runs a successful cosmetics company. So what is she doing here running a scam on me? And is felicia scorpio

really the wife of the port charles police commissioner? Yes, that last part is true, and she does work as a P.I. Ah, I see. Well, that explains that. What’s lucy’s excuse? Do you mind telling me the middle part again? Sure, lucy came in claiming she was recently widowed and, uh, felicia was her sister. Mac: You said

you were sisters? Yeah, felicia said we were sisters, and she even said our last name was “martin.” And then hummingbird cake got mentioned, and that sort of really blew my cover.

Hummingbird cake? Hummingbird cake? Yes, hummingbird cake, because the restaurant we went to happened to serve hummingbird cake, which is really odd, because most restaurants don’T. But he said, jackson said, “I don’t like hummingbird cake,” which made me really mad, because that’s martin’s

favorite food. And so then I said, “you would like hummingbird cake if you ever had the proper recipe.” But apparently he had had hummingbird cake, because he knew martin’s family recipe. Believe it or not, one of my most contentious divorce cases involved a recipe for hummingbird cake. The wife was my client, and she was threatening to divulge the recipe to little debbie’s for mass production. And I bet the husband in that case was martin grey, and he didn’t like that idea. Well, I’ll put it to you this way. The husband just hated the idea so much that I knew I could get sole custody for my client of the couple’s beach house in miami if I could just get her to sign an nda saying she’d never divulge the recipe. And martin’s mother guards that hummingbird cake recipe like it was gold in fort knox. And let me guess, once jack connected lucy to martin, it was all over. I’m sorry you couldn’t get through to your son earlier. Wow! You do always eavesdrop on private conversations. I-I couldn’t help but hear it. Y-you were both speaking very loudly. Yeah, well, not loud enough to get through to my son. You certainly did all you could. And what? I should just give up? Oh, gee, my son doesn’t remember his family. Maybe he will someday. Why would selina wu want to help cody? I-I don’t know. But do you know that the pcpd has been running surveillance at the savoy? Well, yeah, I know, but how do you know? I ran into mac earlier, and mac knows about selina’s high-stake illegal poker game in the back room. Okay, well, that explains it then. If there is a poker game, cody’s gonna sniff it out. I mean, that’s what happened to him last year when he got beat up. He was supposed to take the bus out of town. He missed his bus, and that was because of a poker game. Okay, well, do you think it was selina’s? He didn’t say whose game it was, but it could very well have been selina’s game. See? I told you this was shady. I don’t like it. I think it’s pretty highly likely that it was selina’s guys that beat up cody when he first came into town, so it’s troubling to think that cody is more connected to her now. Ohh, cody bell, what are you up to now, man? I would like to apologize for my friends. I am so, so sorry that you got caught in the middle of all of this, but at the end of the day, you know, was there any real harm done? Anna, did you not hear me say that felicia was going through my confidential client files? Okay, let me throw that name out there again — martin grey. She wasn’t going through any other files, was she? Well, not that I can tell, but who the hell knows what she saw? Well, I can vouch for my friend. If she was there with lucy, she was only looking at martin’s files. Yeah, okay. I’m — I’m gonna need a little bit more. Like, what’s the interest in martin grey? Well… lucy’s dating him. They have 10 limbs — 8 arms and 2 tentacles. The biggest squid is 60 feet and the biggest octopus is only about 30 feet. Wow. I always thought that octopi were bigger. Mama q, leo’s got this. I was so happy when you walked through that door. Does this mean you’re still talking to me? You mean after I figured out that tracy was pulling strings with the ccrb? Yeah. Look, I know that I’m a by-the-book guy, and maybe that sounds good on paper, but in real life, I need to learn to be more accepting that life is complicated and it’s messy, and that is okay. No, brook lynn, what you did was gutsy and it was brave and it was pretty magnificent. A plan that complicated and messy wouldn’t have occurred to me in a million years, and that is why I think our differences make us such a good team. And that’s what I’m trying to say, brook lynn. I don’t want you to feel like I am constantly judging you. Because I love you, brook lynn, exactly the way that you are. I love you, too, mr. By-the-book. You have no right to judge me. I mean, normally you got to have results in three, four weeks if you want to keep something like that going. Well, I think mac doesn’t want cody to get arrested before he takes down selina’s illegal poker game. So mac’s trying to protect cody. As much as he can. Hmm. Mac said it was because he loved dominique and cody is her son, but I think there’s more to it. I think that mac was disappointed when the paternity test came back and it revealed that mac was not cody’s dad. Did you know the brown-throated three-toed sloth naps up to 16 hours a day and its arms are twice as long as its legs? I did not know that. You sure do know a lot. I know all animals and I love them all, even though cody likes horses best. Hey, I do love my horses, but I like other animals, too. Just not beetles. Ugh. No, never beetles. Never.

[ Laughs ] My mom likes feeding me.

So he wants you to try to get cody to stop playing in selina’s poker games.

Going against sonny is risky enough. But I draw a hard line at letting a stranger I know nothing about into my daughter’s life. I can’T. Ryan’s bar is where my mother, delia, works. I have no idea how mason could have found her. She gave me up… for adoption. I mean, there aren’t even any public records tying us together. I’m so sorry. That’s a real low blow. But, you know, mason and — and everyone that he deals with, they play dirty. That’s why we don’t have a choice. We have to do what they say.

I-I’m not very fond of it. You don’t like hummingbird cake? Are you kidding? Oh, my gosh. It– it’s so sweet. And it’s reliable and dependable… most of the time. I didn’t know you were so passionate about it. I’m sorry. Uh, no, no. I’m — I’m not. Um, no. It’s just my, um, my aunt charlene. Uh, she loves, loves hummingbird cake. In fact, she has her favorite secret recipe she loves. Oh, well, I am sure I would love, love your aunt charlene’S. You would. It’s amazing. I mean — wait. Listen. It has toasted almonds, and then she takes the nutmeg that enhances kind of the cinnamon… mmm. …And then this kind of tahitian vanilla. I don’t know what it does, but it brings out tropical flavors. And then the very best part. My favorite part is when she puts in — bourbon. Bourbon.

[ Chuckles softly ] How did you know? I really appreciate your offer of help. I-I really do. Well, good. Then say yes. No. You keep pointing out how dangerous this is. Right. Yeah. So the best chance you have of staying safe is — is for us to work together. You have a family. This isn’t just about physical safety. I saw how hard it was for you to overcome your ptsd and that you really struggled with that for a long time. And I don’t think I could live with myself if I felt responsible for you going through anything like that again. Okay? Well, I appreciate that, anna. I do. But, uh… I’m a grown man. And I take responsibility for all my choices. And, yeah, I went through hell and back with everything and — and the ptsd. And there were some days where I didn’t think I was gonna make it, but I did. And everything I went through then and since then… …has shown me how strong I am and what I’m capable of. And I’d be betraying the man I’ve become if I let you put yourself in harm’s way and I didn’t help you.

I know you don’t trust pilar at the moment. And, you know, I’m not thrilled with pilar right now. You know, she lost avery, and I can’t stop you from hiring who you want to hire to look after avery. But whoever you hire, I need to approve who’s in my daughter’s life. Everything okay? Yeah. Yeah. Well, that’s up to ava. Ava: Of course everything’s okay. Yes. Yes.
