[ Chuckles ] Wow. I love hearing all this good news. Well, she wasn’t my favorite person when she was little and bullying aiden, but she’s grown up a lot, and I-I think she might actually be good for jake. In what ways? Well, you know, my boy is so shy and reserved, and charlotte is very confident, and it seems to be rubbing off on him. Hmm. It’s the first time since franco’s death that jake doesn’t seem down all the time. I’m really glad to hear that. And charlotte is the most popular girl in their class, so dating her has really boosted his self-esteem. [ Chuckles ] That’s great. You know I love jake. I love him like he was my own son. [ Monitor beeping ] You know, you mean a lot to all of us.

[ Door opens ] Cain… your transfer paperwork has been approved. I’ll be taking you back to pentonville. My mit did change her. [ Chuckling ] Well, yeah, but you’re my grandma. I know. It’s not the same. I don’t know, I just don’t have someone to hang out with. And papa’s never around. He’s always busy. Yeah. He spends an awful lot of time with anna, doesn’t he? I’m not goin g to imposthat is just too much to ask. I don’t think any of them would feel it was an imposition. And mac and jordan have law enforcement training. If whoever is targeting you is… the solution is not for me to hole up with my friends and bring danger to their door. The solution is for me to go after whoever is trying to dismantle my life and shut them down. There’s really no need for people to keep reminding me that I’m not ace’s father. I get that, okay? But ace’s father, who’s also my father, is missing in action because — I don’t know — he doesn’t care that he has two sons. Spencer. You don’t know what’s going on in nikolas’s head any more than I do. A benefit of the doubt is always the healthiest approach until you know the facts. Come on, kevin. Kevin! My grandmother, who is the sweetest, kindest, most determined person on the planet, has had to finally admit to herself that my father is not coming back. And someone has to fill that void. A subtle warning to judge kim about a potentially embarrassing career decision, and then he gets the chance to clean it up before the dam breaks. And then an early, quiet release for drew. Nothing said overtly, all implied. This is how deals are done every day. But I had to go for the jugular. I had to grandstand. And you know why I did that? I believe you’re about to tell me. Because that’s what lawyers do. And I’m a lawyer, or I want to be one, and I-I miss it. I wanted to win, and I lost big. Not for me, but for drew. You know, maybe there’s a way we can delay this. Elizabeth. Dr. Ashford is on duty. I can talk to him, and he can say that there are more tests that need to be done tomorrow. Then you can stay here an extra night. There’s no point in delaying the inevitable. Honestly, it probably would make it more torturous. Hey, we both know I’m gonna end up in prison eventually. Okay, then let me call carly for you. The point is, is that I went after judge kim because I wanted to, and it was stupid and unprofessional.

what a nice surprise. Thank you for bringing breakfast. Yeah. I wanted to see you, and I figured, you ran out of the house without eating this morning, so I decided to bring breakfast to you. I’ve missed spending time with you. Oh, I’ve neglected you and the kids. Mom, first, we understand. And second, you have not neglected us. I didn’t realize how much there was to learn about this position. Don’t get me wrong, I love it. But I feel like I’m back in college studying for finals. Well, it’s all going to be worth it. I mean, you’re taking on a totally new career where you get to help people at the most vulnerable time in their lives. We are so proud of you. Thanks. [ Sighs ] There’s really nothing like it when you are in a courtroom and you have the jury in your hands. And when I did my closing statements, I would look each one of them in the eyes until I was sure we had a connection. And then when the judge rules in your favor, it’S… not this.

[ Chuckles ] Interviewing an ambitious judge is certainly not the same thing. I’m sure you’ll be just as passionate as you were in the courtroom. I hope so. Well, judge kim handed down a sentence that was harsh and biased. And I have no doubt, with your skills, you’ll get drew out of prison. That’s the plan. And if this is going to work, I need your help. So, you ready for battle? Oh, my gosh! This is — this is huge! Your dad’s alive! But they just don’t know where he is. Yeah. Wait a minute. So… he just doesn’t want to see you? Yeah. But he knows about ace, right? Yeah. Okay, what is with these one-word answers? Aren’t you upset that he’s not coming home? And please don’t say “yeah.” Trina, I don’t mean to be glib. It’s just that, if my father were to come home right now, that would ruin things. How? Because esme and ace and I, we’re… we’ve kind of gotten into a routine, and it’s nice because I can spend a lot of time with ace this way, and now that my grandmother and kevin are home, they can help out when they need to. And me and esme can take a break. And I think that if my father were to come home right now, that would throw everything off. So I’m kind of glad that he’s stayed away. Don’t you think ace needs his father? No. Because he has me. This is all my fault. I’m her father. I am supposed to protect her. And I have completely failed her. I was so obsessed with victor and anna and tracking down nikolas that I — I totally lost touch with my teenage daughter. Okay, listen, I can’t help you if you don’t tell me what it is, all right? So, did something happen to charlotte? Yeah. Okay. When I got back from russia, I was staying with anna while charlotte was at camp, and, one night, I was out, and anna went for a run. And that was the night that anna’s townhouse burned down. Oh, yes, I did hear about that. I-I am so sorry to hear. It must have been very hard on anna. But thank god no one was in the house at the time. Do they know what started it? Oh, it was arson. It was intentional. Arson? Yeah. We were… pretty shaken up. Yeah. So we sent charlotte to sam and dante’s for a while. That’s a good idea. She’d definitely be protected there. Yeah, we didn’t realize that we would need protection from her, though. I-I don’t understand. Laura, a couple of weeks later, we were staying at the metro court hotel. We were just getting back from dinner, and we discovered our hotel suite had been trashed, and there was a threatening message written on the hotel mirror. It was charlotte.

[ Exhales deeply ] Thank you. Sorry for the inconvenience. It’s not a problem. Hey, just ’cause I’m paranoid doesn’t mean someone’s

not after me, right? Anna, it’s perfectly understandable to feel on edge. First, your house burned down. Then there was the incident at your hotel suite. Pcpd made any progress? Unfortunately, no. But it is an ongoing investigation, so, hopefully, they’ll come up with some leads. Oh.

[ Sighs ] Feel so anxious lately. You know, like… like a sitting duck. Have there been any more incidents? No. It doesn’t stop me looking over my shoulder or jumping at my shadow. Which is exactly what the wsb wants. Mm. So, you’re convinced they’re somehow connected to this? I don’t know. I mean, I can’t prove it. Everything that’s happened, you know, is right out of their playbook. Toying with me. I mean, they won’t make another attempt until their target, me, relaxes into a false sense of security, which I have absolutely no intention of doing. Is there anything I can do? I mean, I have my own bodyguard now, full time, courtesy of sonny. So whenever my enemy, whoever they are, makes another move… …I’ll be ready. Look, I know you have a lot going on with the boys being back in school, but this offer just kind of fell in my lap. What offer? I have this friend, dan. Good guy, you know? And he’s got this amazing cabin in the mountains. It’s nothing fancy, but, I mean, it’s beautiful. The lake and the trees. And it’s just kind of a magical place to recharge after a long week here. Look, I know it’s short notice, and so if you can’t make it, I… I totally understand. Wait. Or we can do it some other time. What is it that I’ve been telling you up on the roof? All right. Tha t we shouldtake advantage of every moment? Okay, yes. Let’s — let’s do this. I will call my gram and see if she can watch the boys. Okay, and I’m sure chase and my dad could look after violet. So, are we doing this? We’re doing this.

[ Laughs ]

[ Cellphone beeping ] Yeah — oh. Yeah. I’m needed in surgery. But, um… I’m really glad you can go. I can’t wait. You want me in the room? Of course I want you in the room. That’s part of the strategy, that I’m going to be the lead or take the lead, and then, occasionally, I’ll toss it to you, right?

[ Sighs ] And that’s when you’re going to butter him up. You’re going to make him think that this puff piece is going to build his reputation. You’re going to play to his ego. And then when we have him relaxed, that’s when we go in for the kill and blindside him with the documents that we’ve uncovered. I don’t know, alexis. My contribution was strictly research. I-I had no intention of being in the spotlight. You don’t need me. I do too need you. You’re my co-counsel.

[ Sighs ] What do you say? I’m in. Spencer, every child needs their parent, and it’s important for a boy to grow up with his father. No. Not when that father is nikolas cassadine. That man is rotten to his core, trina. Okay, I’m — I’m confused, because a few days ago, we talked about your dad. And you said that you and ace are better off without him, and you were all fired up. But then I reminded you of sweet moments that you shared with me — stories from your childhood where you bonded with your dad and looked up to him — and then you admitted that you still loved him and hope that he’s okay. And now you just don’t want him back in your life? It was just a moment of vulnerability. I got caught up in false sentiment, and I realized that just because I had a few sweet moments with him from my childhood, it doesn’t mean that my father isn’t the same cruel person that he always has been, and I think that ace is better off without his influence. So you’re fine with esme’s influence? How I feel about esme is irrelevant. She’s ace’s mother, and she’s — that’s never going to change, trina. So, you can’t just forget about the awful things the old esme did. That person might still be under the surface just waiting to come out. I have no misconceptions about who esme is, and I can’t believe that I’m going to say this — she’s been a good mother to ace.

[ Scoffs ] Okay, so just like with your dad, your opinion has seemed to change, because not only did you want to take ace away from esme, but you were the one who said that we should hold on to the false evidence that victor left you! Yes. Yes. Because I am cautious. And that evidence acts as an insurance policy should esme revert back to her old ways. It’s future leverage, trina. So you don’t really trust her? Yes and no. I’m never going to forgive her for what she did to you and joss and cam. But at the same time, the new and improved version of her seems to be at least somewhat sincere. Oh. I don’t care what type of mother esme is to ace. That is the same woman who not only drugged me, but framed me for violating my best friend. And I think she’s still motivated by jealousy and wants to be with you. Oh, come — no. Trina! Come on. She doesn’t want that. Spencer! Snap out of it. This fantasy that you and esme have of playing house is a dream come true for her. I’m so happy with the new house. You know, at first, I thought it was going to be really weird since it was lulu’S. We spent so much time there, laughing, crying. Lulu would love the idea of you being there. The house is filled with life again. Yeah. And georgie and james both have their own rooms, so I don’t have to referee the two of them. It’s a win-win. Oh, I wish I could see them more. James was telling me he found the perfect tree to climb in the backyard. Yeah. Ooh, maybe mac and I could come over on sunday, and I could cook. Oh, okay. You’ll have to barbecue. [ Murmuring indistinctly ] I hear congrats are in order. Oh. Ah! Co-chief of staff? That’s great. Thank you. I wasn’t sure at first, but now I’m happy that I made the decision. It’s not an easy job. No, it’s not. There’s a lot of challenges around here, but I have confidence in my co-chief, terry. Dr. Randolph’s made great and significant changes around here. I really hope to be a part of that. I hate to bring up bad news on your first official day. That’s okay. I can handle it. That’s what this job is all about. Well, it’s not a problem with G.H. Huh? Someone was here last night, and it’s your right to know. It was cyrus renault. He was released from prison. There’s got to besome kind of a mistake. Charlotte? How can you be so sure? Security footage. I saw her… breaking into our room while we were out.

[ Scoffs ] Couldn’t that be somebody else? I mean, come on. Anna’s built up an awful lot of enemies over the years. My god, we don’t even know yet whether or not anna is the real target at the metro court pool shooting. The only one in the footage was charlotte. I — it’s just so hard for me to believe that my sweet, little granddaughter could do something like that. Yeah, well, it makes me sick. But I saw the footage, and I saw the room. Furniture overturned, anna’s clothes all over the place, covered with red ink. What was the message on the mirror? “You think you got away with it? You didn’T. You think you’re safe? You’re not.” Oh, my god. Have you confronted charlotte about any of this? No. I asked her where she was, gave her a chance to come clean. And I’m guessing she didn’t? No, she lied right to my face. Oh, my gosh. Oh, boy. This — this is a lot for me to digest. It just, uh… okay, look, we’re — we’re going to figure it out. We are going to figure it out. And we’re going to find a way to help charlotte. I don’t know if that’s possible. Because it’s worse than you realize.

[ Chuckles ] Well, you know, I never thought of this job as more than a temporary thing, but I have to admit, I’ve enjoyed being deputy mayor. [ Chuckles ] Part of me thinks I could better serve port charles working in the mayor’s office, but I gotta say, there’s — there’s nothing like getting your hands dirty on a case.

[ Elevator hums ] Jordan. Why wouldn’t you at least warn me? At least warn me that cyrus renault was released? Trina, you have nothing to worry about. Esme is not a threat to us. I don’t think she’s actively trying to drive us apart, but I think nothing would make her happier than having you all to herself. I would never let that happen. But she already knows that you’re committed to ace. And I think she loves the fact that you’re a father figure to him. Yes, and I don’t see anything wrong with me filling that role for my brother. That’s just it. That is just it. He is your brother, not your son. He’s not your responsibility. Your father needs to be taking care of him. No matter what you think of nikolas, he did a good job with you. He raised the man that I fell in love with. So he can’t be all bad. Okay, so what would you suggest, trina? That I just have no active role in ace’s life or…? No.

[ Chuckles sarcastically ] I’m not suggesting that you abandon him. But I need you to start thinking about your future. Our future — yours and mine. I think charlotte burned anna’s house. No. No. Charlotte didn’t do that. I didn’t think she could trash a hotel room, but she did. But arson? I mean, come on. That’s a whole lot worse. Besides, it’s not possible. Didn’t you just tell me that she was away at camp? Camp’s an hour away. She could have taken a rideshare. I think that’s a lot of planning for a 15-year-old kid. Laura, I think she waited outside until the house was empty, because she didn’t want to hurt anybody, but she wanted to cause mass destruction. And she did. She succeeded. But this is all speculation now, right? It is. You don’t have proof. Do you? No. But I believe she burned anna’s house, and I believe she’s disturbed. And I can’t get through to her. But I’m praying that you can. Thank you so much, gram. I realize it’s last minute, so I really appreciate it. The boys will be excited to see you, too. Oh, and aiden has a new recipe he wants to try out on you.

You know, with everything going on, I could just… I could use getting away for a couple days. I’m really looking forward to it, bro.

[ Telephone rings ] Yep. Okay, I’ll be right down. The judge has arrived. I am going to go down and greet him, and then I’ll escort him up. Show time! You better be here when I get back. (Woman) what if my type 2 diabetes takes over?I don’t believe — I don’t believe charlotte’s capable of burning down anna’s house. And I wouldn’t believe she was capable of trashing a hotel suite, but she did. It’s not that inconceivable. Yes, but you have proof of that. By the way, can I see that footage? The footage no longer exists. Okay, look. The best way for us to help charlotte is to try to understand what’s driving this behavior. Well, I don’t have a clue, because she used to like anna. She’s clearly targeting her. I mean, maybe she resents her over all the time that anna and I spent together in the safe house working against victor. She’s jealous that I chose anna over her. I don’T… that’s it. That’s it! It’s victor. Well, you better give me some answers. I should have been notified before renault’s release, and his victims deserve to know, as well. Find out who dropped the ball and call me back.

[ Sighs ] This is unbelievable. How? How could something like this possibly happen? It seems renault was given a hardship release. He suffered a major heart attack a few months ago, and a doctor testified that he’s physically debilitated.

[ Scoffs ] It doesn’t take a lot of strength to hold a gun. Apparently, warden garten also gave a statement to the parole board. She claims cyrus was a model prisoner. She claims he’s reformed and not a threat to anyone. This maniac threatened to kill me. He threatened to kill my daughter. He held me hostage in my own home with his sister. How? H-how is he not a threat?

[ Sighs ] Portia, I know this is difficult. There has to be a way to get this reversed. To get him sent back to prison, where he belongs. Anna: Oh, god. Portia. No, I’m sorry. That’s not possible. Lucy just announced to the entire office that she was taking tracy’s deal, and they dropped the lawsuit. Isn’t that a good thing? Well, none of our options were good. But now tracy has 51% of the company, and we can market the deceptor again. Isn’t that your most successful product? Yes, it is. But, unfortunately, lucy wants to rework the entire ad campaign, which means replacing sasha as the face of deception. Oh, that poor girl. She’s been through so much. I know. And I wanted to tell her in person, so I went over to her apartment, and I found her there packing to move to texas. Well, she must have family there. I mean, I can understand her wanting to be with them at a time like this. No, mom, that’s the weird thing. She does not have family in texas. She said she just wants a fresh start. It seemed so important to her, I didn’t have the heart to tell her she’s being replaced at deception. Maybe she just needs to make a clean break. Was she going to leave without saying goodbye? Yes. And my heart breaks for how much pain she’s in.

[ Sighs ] I’m so sorry for sasha. And for you. You’re losing a good friend. Hey, uh, tj. Can I talk to you a minute about that consultation? What’s up? And I think it’s time we talk about what lies ahead for us. So you — you want to know about my future? Yeah. I do. I mean, where do you see yourself in five years?

[ Scoffs ] Well, thank you for seeing me today, ms. Robinson. I… my future? I don’t know. Uh…

[ Inhales sharply ] Having fun? Spending time with my friends and family? Being with the love of my life, you, ms. Robinson? Spencer, don’t do that. I’m being serious. Okay. Okay. I’m sorry. [ Sighs ] Although brook lynn ruined it before sasha even left. Still can’t believe she betrayed us. You were so close to brook lynn. Yeah, and now that friendship is over. But it doesn’t have to be. I don’t know what your diagnosis is, doctor, but your symptoms lately are happiness, high spirits, bordering on downright cheerful. I mean, I don’t know what the cause is, but, hopefully, there’s no cure.

[ Chuckles ] Well, you know, this friend told me that we — we have to hold on to the small moments in life, you know? If something good presents itself, don’t let go. Do what makes you happy. And I guess that’s what I’m trying to do. It sounds like you have a very wise friend. Yeah. How about you? How’s the surrogacy going? It’s been a struggle to get here, but now everything’s on track. Pregnancy is going well, and molly and I, we’re so excited for our first ultrasound. Congratulations, tj.

[ Chuckles ] See? Looks like you’re in a good moment, too. Trina, I love you. But my — my brother’s always going to be a part of my life. And I get that. I would never ask you to walk away from him. But it seems like you want to be more than just his brother. No, I’m well aware that he’s not my son. But it doesn’t mean that I can’t be there for him. And I want to make sure that he feels loved and safe. You and esme already give him a safe and stable home. Yeah, and I’m going to make sure that he stays there and that he’s never shipped off to a boarding school, like I was, because I don’t think that my father ever realized how difficult that was for me. It was very isolating. And lonely. Well, unfortunately, loneliness is a part of life. For some more than others. Well, it’s not going to be a part of ace’S. Not as long as I have something to say about it. And what about his mother? Does her say matter? Alexis: Come on in. All right. Um, judge kim, may I introduce you to professor gregory chase? He’s a senior member of our editorial board. And this is the honorable judge albert kim. Pleasure to meet you. You, as well. Gregory has an extensive background in journalism, and he’s written several pieces on the supreme court and the federal judiciary. I’ve enjoyed reviewing your decisions. You’re a very impressive jurist. I’m flattered, but that’s the first time I’ve heard the word “enjoy” associated with my decrees.

[ Laughs ] I find some of your cases very interesting. Even chapman V. Young? Uh, yes. Your adjudication in that case set a precedent for cyberbullying. Clearly, the professor has done his homework. He has. I want to thank you very much for agreeing to this interview. So, um, why don’t we begin? Make yourself comfortable. Have a seat here, if you don’t mind. So, I thought we’d begin with just some general questions. What drew you to a career in law? Victor had charlotte at that boarding school in switzerland for almost a year. We don’t know how many times he could have visited her there or — or what lies he could have fed her. According to charlotte, he never visited her there. But who knows? That doesn’T… there was also that time that we all went to dinner at the metro court, and charlotte wanted to wash her hands before we sat down at the table. I felt like she was gone a little too long, so I went to look for her, and I found her in the alcove with victor. Yeah, I-I sent her back to the table, and I gave him a very strong warning. You’ve never told me that before. Well, it just didn’t really mean much of anything before. But now I’m starting to think that maybe — maybe he was always right there, influencing her. Victor always hated anna. He blamed her. For what? For turning me against him. Okay. This is starting to make sense. So this is revenge. He’s weaponized charlotte, and he’s pointed her directly at anna.

Try new mirafiber gummies. Clearly, brook lynn made a huge mistake helping tracy, but I’m sure she was forced into it. Blackmailing family members comes easy for tracy. Brook lynn should have come to me first. We could have figured out a way around tracy, out-maneuver her or something. But by the time brook lynn fessed up…

[ Scoffs ] …It was too late. Surely you understand someone resorting to extreme measures when being backed into a corner. Okay, okay. I’ve made a few mistakes in my past, told a few lies. Planned a few schemes. Point taken. Guess I’m really in no position to judge brook lynn. Exactly. So just be honest with her. Tell her that you forgive her. Tell sasha you don’t want her to leave. How did I end up with such a smart mother? You’re just lucky, I guess.

[ Laughs ] I don’t see ace and esme living with you and laura forever. Do you? Well, we haven’t discussed it yet, but esme knows that she can stay there for as long as she likes. She has everything that she needs there. You know, as ace gets older, esme will make decisions that will affect his future. Where he lives, who he sees will be her choice, not yours. Well, we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it, but I don’t see anything changing for a while.

[ Sighs ] Well, this idyllic situation, it can’t last forever. And, eventually, esme and ace, they’ll be on their own. And there’s nothingyou can do about it. Why? Why can’t we get this man put behind bars, where he belongs? Yeah, well, unfortunately, this is a legal provision intended to show mercy for elderly and infirm prisoners. But this is insane. I know. This is insane. He’s exploiting the justice system. That’s what he’s doing. Jordan: You’re right. But our hands are tied. I know this isn’t too much comfort, but there is no way renault will go near you or trina again. No, yeah, you don’t know that. This maniac is playing the feeble-old-man card. And some judge out there, some judge actually bought it. Look, I despise cyrus, but he’s smart and calculating. He had to have called in a lot of favors to get released. And there’s no way he’s going to do anything to jeopardize it. And don’t forget, there’s laura, as well. I’m sure cyrus is going to want to reconcile with his sister. So he’ll be on his best behavior. I can’t believe I entrusted my daughter to that monster.

[ Sighs ] He was your father. You never would have thought that charlotte would be at risk with him. Listen, you can’t blame yourself for this. I mean, she was far from him, at school, and he still got his claws into her. So, what? He gets her to commit arson, and she’s going to have to pay the price for it? Listen, I am not convinced that it was charlotte who burnt down anna’s house. I know that your father isn’t above manipulating his own granddaughter, but I think it would be more likely that he would encourage her to taunt anna in some way. And I think that would actually explain the hotel room incident. Okay, so what do we do now?

[ Sighs ] Well, now that we know what’s driving her behavior, we can help her. We got her out of that school. Now we just have to get her out from under victor’s influence. Well, after law school, I secured a position as the assistant district attorney for the state of new york. Oh, my daughter works in the da’s office. It’s challenging, but — but she finds it rewarding. It gave me a solid base for understanding the legal system. But I get a greater satisfaction from presiding on the federal bench, especially on cases dealing with constitutional matters. I’ve read your opinions, and you consider yourself an originalist, correct? Yes, I believe the meaning of the constitution doesn’t change over time. I was just reading an article about asher alexander, and apparently you both share that view. Isn’t that the billionaire investment banker? Mm-hmm. Yes, I’ve certainly heard of him. But I wouldn’t know if he agrees with any of my judicial opinions. I’ve never met the man. Really? Then that’s interesting. You flew to st. Thomas on this man’s private jet to go deep-sea fishing, yet you’ve never met him?

[ Chuckles ] Why would I go home? This is my suspect. I need to question him. It’s my case. Not anymore. Wa– look, I don’t mean any disrespect, but — but you are not the commissioner anymore. And I thought — I thought, “okay, well, this is it. He’s gonna bring me home. He’s gonna let me go.” What changed his mind? I have no idea. But all of a sudden, he just — he just snapped. And he shut the car off, and he grabbed me out of the back seat. A-and you know the rest. Josslyn: Looks like you need this. Oh. Thank you. Oh. Thank you both, really, for everything.
