Recap written by Christine

Michael had Lauren meet him at Society. When he arrived, he gave her a kiss and told her he won in court today. She ordered champagne to celebrate, and she told him that he was at the pinnacle of his career. He’d been thinking the same thing, and it made him wonder if he should quit while he was ahead. He’d felt fortunate to practice every type of law that piqued his interests, and he thought maybe he should leave on a high note. Lauren noted that this wasn’t the first time Michael talked about leaving after a brutal case. She suggested a break, but he said it was about taking his life in a different direction. He felt proud and content, and that was how everyone wanted to feel when they were ready to retire.

Christine was getting takeout, and she overheard Michael, so she joined him and Lauren. Christine thought that if Michael left the profession, it’d be the end of an era in this town. Michael said no one understood that as well as Christine did. He told Lauren that he gave Christine her first job at the law firm. There was a flashback to a young Michael and Christine. He’d welcomed her to Whitman Walker and Wilson. In the present, Christine said she felt lucky to be Michael’s protege. He assumed her opinion changed when she saw the other side of him – the egomaniac. Michael admitted that he excelled at mind games and power plays back then. He said he underestimated her, and when he crossed the line with her, she fought back, dragged him to court, exposed his abhorrent behavior and won. He acknowledged that, instead of being humbled, he was outraged about losing his job and reputation and he sought revenge. A clip played of Michael using a sledgehammer to put a hole in a wall as part of his plot to make Christine suffer. Michael said he wasn’t in his right mind back then – he’d been obsessed, violent, furious, and though he didn’t know it at the time, going to prison for a few years was one of the best things to ever happen to him. Christine had been skeptical when Michael came to her and said he had an epiphany. Michael had asked Christine to give him another chance and speak on his behalf to the Wisconsin Bar.

Michael was grateful Christine restored his career and agreed to come work with him again. They remembered when they had a law office together, Baldwin, Williams and Associates. Christine said she came into her own as a lawyer, and she and Michael became friends and colleagues. Lauren recalled that Paul was chagrined. Michael noted that Paul took a little longer to trust him again, which was understandable. Michael said Christine was patient and kind and cut him an unending amount of slack. Lauren asked what Christine thought about Michael retiring. Christine said only Michael would know when he was ready to wind down his legal career. Lauren thought Michael was multi-talented. She’d seen his sketches, she thought he could be an artist. He wasn’t sure what he might want to do, and Christine said he just had to do more soul searching. Christine didn’t regret leaving the DA’s office, she loved pro bono work, and it gave her more time with her husband.

Victor arrived, and Christine hugged him before taking her order and leaving. Michael brought Victor up to speed. Victor thought that Michael would get too bored to retire. Michael said he could spend more time with Lauren, Fen, and Kevin’s kids. Victor invited Michael to come work for him at Newman Media. Michael wasn’t really interested in being on call 24/7 or ending up in murky ethical situations. Victor noted that Michael was really good at it. Michael admitted he’d once loved finding the perfect loop holes and seeing how far he could push things without getting caught, but for every time he and Victor were in sync, there were other, far less pleasant times. There was a flashback to Victor firing Michael.

In the present, Victor said Michael could set his own hours and he’d be compensated very well. Michael said it wasn’t really about the money. Victor said he and Michael had a long history, and they’d learned to trust each other. There was a flashback to Michael trying to take the fall for something Victor did. Victor insisted on taking responsibility for his own actions. After the flashback ended, Michael said he’d never respected Victor more than he did that day. Victor left. Michael chuckled that he hadn’t left his job, and there was already another one waiting for him. Michael just needed to get a handle on his options. Lauren had made some calls to help Michael out.

Gloria, Kevin and Chloe arrived. Lauren thought Michael’s family could help him get perspective. “Have you met my family?,” he asked her. Lauren said Michael wanted to look at this from all angles, and what better way than to do that with the family who knew and loved him best. Lauren had invited Michael’s best friend, but she couldn’t make it. Michael was sure that Phyllis would be on his side. Gloria asked if that meant some people weren’t on his side. Michael didn’t mean to offend Gloria. Gloria thought it was wonderful that they’d come together. Kevin said they were a regular family now. Gloria didn’t want to rehash the past, when her kids couldn’t depend on her.

Michael flashed back to a moment with Gloria. She said he wouldn’t forgive her for being a rotten mother when he was young. Michael had pointed out that Gloria wasn’t telling her husband that Michael and Kevin were her sons. Michael blasted Gloria for her lies and manipulations. In the present, Gloria was in tears. She admitted it took her awhile, but she thought they had to agree that she’d grown into her role as a fabulous, if unconventional maternal figure. They remembered the time Gloria burst out of a box wrapped as a Christmas present and surprised Michael and Lauren. After the flashback, Michael said he couldn’t throw stones, because he’d made his mistakes. None more egregious than failing Kevin when they were young. Kevin said Michael made up for that. Michael remembered the time Kevin was in the hospital, bandaged and bruised. Michael apologized for not being a good brother. Michael had been focused on getting out of the hellhole they grew up in, and he’d left Kevin behind. Michael vowed to do better.

Kevin wanted to focus on some positivity. Kevin and Michael remembered connecting as brothers in the past. Kevin was going to be Michael’s best man. Lauren thought the reminiscing was lovely, but she said she called them here because Michael was at a crossroads. Chloe thought Michael should retire, and Kevin didn’t. Chloe said Michael was the best of the best, and now it was time to kick back and relax. Kevin thought Michael would be bored and that he’d drive the rest of the family crazy by popping over with unsolicited advice. Gloria agreed with Kevin. Gloria said she was much too young to be the mother of a retiree, so Michael would have to get some kind of job. Chloe said that it was Michael’s life, so they supported him no matter what he decided. Kevin, Chloe and Gloria left. Michael realized he didn’t need anyone’s opinion but Lauren’s. They took a trip down memory lane. There were flashbacks to their first kiss, their wedding and finding out Lauren was pregnant with Fenmore. Michael had been afraid of that his child would inherit his darkness. Lauren assured him that he wasn’t the man he once was. Michael was happy too. He loved Lauren and promised to do his best to be a great father.

Michael told Lauren that she was the best part of his life and that their family was his greatest legacy. She was grateful every day for their strong marriage. He thought they were stronger because of the challenges. She said she almost destroyed what they built, and it was miracle they made it through. He kissed her hand and said it took a lot of hard work, but they made it because they were meant to be as husband and wife and mother and father. They flashed back to Fen giving them a compass to thank them for their loving support and guidance.

Lauren felt that she and Michael were at a place where they’d be okay no matter what. She also thought Michael would be okay no matter what path he chose. He asked what he should do with the rest of his life. She knew he wanted something direct, but she thought he should do what made him happy. He thought it was clear that he needed to retire because spending more time with her would make him the happiest. Music played, and they danced. There were more flashbacks to their romance.

Recap written by Christine

Chance dozed on his couch while Dominic played in the bassinet. Chance had a nightmare and woke up yelling, which scared Dominic and made him cry. Abby ran in and picked up the baby then asked what happened. Chance explained about the dream, but he claimed he didn’t remember what it was about. He just felt bad he scared Dominic. She said the baby was fine, just tired. She put him back in his basket. Chance thought Abby was great with the baby. Abby thought Chance was too and that he just didn’t know it yet. She was worried about the nightmares though. She said he tossed and turned all night and woke up screaming sometimes. She suggested therapy, but he said it wasn’t necessary. He thought that being here with her and Dom would get him through this. He said it’d take time for him to adjust, and he told her not to worry about him. He called her hot, and she thought he was trying to distract her. He said if he wanted to do that, he’d kiss her, then he did. He had some errands to run, but since the baby was asleep, Abby suggested they take advantage of this time. They went upstairs. Later, Chance came down and looked at Dominic, who was awake in the bassinet. Chance left the house.

Devon read a legal document that Amanda prepared for him. Seemingly overwhelmed, he said it felt different seeing it laid out like this. She asked if he still wanted to move forward. He wanted to have a bigger role in Dominic’s life, and he thought having legal rights was the best way to go about it. Amanda agreed. Devon loved Dom and wanted to do what was right by him. He knew Chance needed time to recover. Devon didn’t think Chance was ready to be a parent. Devon just wanted to help, and he wished it didn’t have to come to this. He never wanted to have to be forced to attack Chance and Abby’s parenting skills. Amanda said that Devon would have to make the argument that Chance was incapable of giving Dominic the love and support he needed. She warned him that it would be painful. She was ready to fight to get him the relationship Dominic deserved, but she said this wasn’t about her. Amanda said custody battles were brutal, and if Devon was going to do this, he had to be ready to do what it took to win.

Devon wanted to do this with as little insult as possible. Amanda said they could do that. Devon didn’t want this to be an attack. Amanda warned Devon that might not be possible. She wasn’t sure he and Abby would be close after this. Devon understood that. He hoped that if Abby and Chance saw the lengths he was willing to go, they might settle. Amanda said it was equally possible that Chance and Abby would be so hurt that they’d instruct their lawyers to go into battle. Devon only wanted him, Chance and Abby to be on the same page when it came to Dom. Amanda said that if Devon lost, Abby and Chance might not let him see Dominic anymore. Devon said there was no way Abby would do that. Amanda didn’t think Devon would lose. There had been some specific cases, similar to Devon’s, where donors were awarded rights. She said he’d been a constant presence in Dom’s life.

Devon said he had to do right by Dominic. He hoped things didn’t get ugly in court. He wanted to handle things civilly, and if things didn’t work out that way, he still wanted to move forward. Amanda wanted Devon to take a step back and let her and Abby and Chance’s lawyers handle this from here on out. Devon didn’t agree. He thought that he needed to go to Abby and tell her about this.

Rey and Sharon flirted at Crimson Lights, and she kissed him. Rey was about to tell Sharon about a proposal when Mariah and Tessa walked in, and Sharon focused her attention on them. Sharon thought Mariah and Tessa looked ridiculously happy. Tessa said they’d had a lot of excitement, but she wished they could pace it out a little. Mariah said they missed Rey at the party. Rey wished he could’ve been there. The ladies started laughing about Nick and the party, and Rey looked a bit left out. Rey said he’d be sure to be at the next big celebration, for Nick or anyone else.

Mariah and Tessa were going to Fenmore’s, then to Chance and Abby’s. They had a surprise planned. After they left, Sharon told Rey he had her full attention, but yet again, there was an interruption, this time in Chance’s arrival. Sharon went to get Chance’s order while he talked with Rey. Rey looked forward to his partner coming back to the force. Chance said he was taking an indefinite leave. He missed the beginning of Dominic’s life, and Abby and Devon spent more time with Dom than Chance did. Rey thought the important thing was that Chance was here now, and it wouldn’t be long before Dominic knew how lucky he was to have Chance as a father.

Sharon and Rey were alone again, and she promised nothing else would stop their conversation. He wanted to talk about spending more time alone with her. He wanted to wine and dine her. She thought that sounded nice. He suggested they go to dinner and the museum, and he wanted to go right now. She agreed, but she had to wrap up some things in the office first. She said he was the best.

Mariah and Tessa went to Abby’s house with gifts. One year ago today, Abby and Chance asked Mariah to be the surrogate. Abby thought she should be giving the gifts for this, but she opened the package, and inside were outfits for Dominic. Abby wondered why Mariah and Tessa seemed extra happy. Mariah said they decided to adopt a child. Abby was thrilled, and she was especially pleased for Mariah, because she seemed back to her old self. Mariah said this was the happiest she’d been in a long time. Mariah thanked Abby for being so understanding and supportive. They shared a group hug. Mariah thought it’d be bliss from here on out. Abby asked if Mariah had spoken to Devon recently.

Abby explained that Devon wanted more time with Dominic. This was a critical time, Abby said, because Chance was back, and they were trying to figure out how to be a family. Mariah understood. Abby hadn’t heard from Devon since she told him that she and Chance wouldn’t agree to change the arrangement. She wondered if he needed some space. Mariah guessed she could try reaching out to Devon, since he was such a good friend when she was struggling. Abby didn’t want Mariah to feel pressured into doing it.

After Mariah and Tessa left, Amanda and Devon went to Abby’s. Devon was sorry to just show up, but Abby said that Devon was welcome any time. Devon asked if Chance was here, and Abby asked if she should call him. Devon said it wasn’t necessary. Devon wanted to talk about Dominic. Abby wanted to put this conversation off until her husband was home. Devon reiterated that it wasn’t necessary, but Abby didn’t agree. She noted that he had Amanda, his girlfriend and lawyer. Devon relented.

Mariah and Tessa went to Society. Mariah was worried about Devon and Abby. She loved them both so much. Tessa said Devon and Abby would figure it out. Mariah couldn’t ignore the irony. She’d taken a healthy step back from Dominic, and Devon was holding on tighter. Tessa felt so bad for Devon, Abby and Chance. Mariah said this situation was more complicated than anyone expected. She thought she wanted to reach out to Devon.

Adam and Chelsea went to Society. She thought he wanted to open up about what Victor did, but he said there was no point in dwelling on it. The thought of packing up the penthouse was overwhelming to her. He knew she had something else to discuss besides the house. She admitted she did want to say something. He suspected she wanted to talk about getting back together, and he made it clear there was no future between them. Chelsea said she lost Adam more than once, and he came back and promised they could rebuild what they had. Now she wanted to make those promises to him. He said that their relationship always fell apart in the past. She knew it was hard to put your heart in the hand of the person you needed the most, because that was the person who could break your heart. She was adamant that it was worth the risk. She believed they could have a deep love again. She took his hand and said they should try again.

Adam recognized that Chelsea had given this a lot of thought. She knew he looked at things systemically, but not everything in the universe was logical. “Some things just feel right,” she said. “We are not one of those things,” he countered. He knew with every fiber of his being that a reunion would be a terrible mistake. He said he drove her to put a man in the hospital – she could’ve killed Rey. Chelsea reminded Adam that she wasn’t in her right mind because of her brain injury. He pointed out that he was responsible for the brain injury. He asked her to think about how toxic their love was to drive her to that point. She tried to argue her position, and he asked her to stop. He wanted to be gentle, and he didn’t want to hurt her, but he said that if she couldn’t let this go, he didn’t think they could continue to work together. He didn’t want to let her go from Newman Media, but if their proximity was a problem, he wouldn’t hesitate to do so. She thought that was cold, but he felt that this was the most compassionate and caring thing he could do for her. He wanted her to have a rich full life and be the best mother she could be, but she had to let go of the idea that they would get back together.

Chance and Chelsea bumped into each other at Crimson Lights on the patio. She heard about Spain, and he’d heard about her situation. He was surprised she was back in Genoa City. She said she didn’t have much choice, since she needed to be with Connor, and Adam wouldn’t let her take him far. Chance said Chelsea could’ve fought. Chelsea said Adam was an amazing father, and she didn’t want to keep him from Connor. They started chatting about Adam, and she shared her disappointment that they weren’t getting back together. Chance thought Chelsea knew that Adam was complicated. Chelsea grumbled that she didn’t know Adam as well as Sharon did. Chelsea apologized for bringing the mood down. She thought they should be rejoicing because Chance was alive. She asked to see a picture of Dominic, and he pulled out his phone, only to realize he didn’t have any pictures of his son. Chelsea brushed it off, saying Chance hadn’t been home for long.

Chelsea said that the first six months to a year were hard on everyone, but it got easier once the kid learned to talk. Chance noted that Chelsea really loved being a parent. Chelsea realized she never ordered her coffee. Adam showed up, and Chelsea said bye to Chance and went inside. Chance told Adam that Chelsea didn’t say much, but Chance got the gist of what was going on with Adam. Adam was sorry Chelsea was hurting, but he hoped they could move on and put the past behind them.

Rey offered to pour Chelsea a coffee. She asked him to make it to go, because she had to get out of here. He asked if she was okay, and she said she was fine. He noticed Adam outside.

Abby texted Chance to come home, so he wrapped up his conversation. Chance told Adam that life was short and unpredictable, and Chelsea and Adam had been through hell and back, plus they were connected through Connor. Chance asked if Adam had any of that old love left for her. They didn’t notice Chelsea standing by the patio door. Adam said he didn’t have any love left. Chelsea rushed out of the building.

Adam went to his office and poured a drink.

Chelsea went home. She had tears in her eyes, due to what she’d just overheard. She also poured a drink for herself. She swallowed the alcohol, then she hurled the glass at the wall.

Chance got home and asked what was going on. Devon said this wasn’t going to be easy to hear, but he hoped they’d understand his position. Devon had given a lot of thought to what Chance shared with him the last time they spoke. Devon didn’t want to take this next step, but he was doing what he though was right for Dominic and for Devon. Devon was taking legal action to get shared custody. Amanda was going to contact Christine and file the necessary paperwork. “How could you do this to us?,” Abby demanded.

Recap written by Christine

Outside Society, Sally tried to convince Adam to come to NY with her. She promised it’d be fun. He was tempted, but there was a lot going on at work right now. She said NYC was the media capital of the world, so half the people he had to meet with were probably based there, and the other half had phones. She said they could paint the town after work. She used to live in New York City, so she could show him around. Chelsea came out and said Sally must be freezing, since she was a California girl. Sally told Adam they could discuss it later. Adam had an answer now – he appreciated the offer, but the timing wasn’t great. Sally gave Adam his jacket, and he left. Chelsea wanted to know what Sally offered Adam. Sally tried to go inside. Chelsea wanted to know why Sally wouldn’t be up front with her. Chelsea wanted to believe Sally was being truthful when she said things with Adam were strictly professional. Sally pretended she was just discussing the few business ideas that Chelsea approved. Sally claimed that Adam didn’t seem interested in the details. Chelsea said she and Adam had plans tonight, and she’d fill him in for Sally. Chelsea and Sally spoke to each other in fake cheerful tones. Chloe came out, and Chelsea wished Sally a productive trip to NY. Sally went back inside to get her stuff.

Chloe asked Chelsea if everything was okay. Chelsea got the impression that Sally made another move on Adam. Chelsea was in good spirits because Adam shot Sally down right in front of Chelsea. Chelsea thought Sally must be humiliated. Chelsea went back to work, and Chloe went back inside. Chloe questioned Sally about flirting with Adam outside. Sally said it was a work talk, and she pointed out that Adam was the one who called her outside to talk. Chloe thought Sally was lucky to be going to NY. Sally hoped this was a real trip and not something Chloe and Chelsea cooked up to get rid of her. Chloe said that nobody wanted to get rid of Sally. Chloe hoped Sally and Chelsea could work through their tension once they had some space. Sally thought Chelsea convinced herself that Sally was standing in the way of Chelsea reuniting with Adam. Sally thought once she was out of town, Chelsea might have to face the sad reality that Adam wasn’t interested in her, whether Sally was around or not.

Ashland and Lily continued their conversation at Crimson Lights. Ashland wasn’t sure Billy was sincere about wanting to make peace. In Tuscany, when Billy erased the video Gaines sent, Ashland and Victoria thought they could trust Billy. Then the next thing they knew, Billy was trying to blackmail Ashland. Lily wasn’t interested in rehashing what happened with Gaines. She said Ashland knew Billy had no intention of releasing that article, and Billy even acknowledged it was wrong to threaten to do so. She stated that Billy paid the price. Lily asked Ashland to accept he won and leave Billy alone. Ashland was mystified about why strong intelligent women felt compelled to rush to Billy’s defense. Lily said when Victor put a target on your back, you needed all the support you could get. She warned Ashland that he might not always be on Victor’s good side. Ashland didn’t feel sorry for Billy, because he’d been warned not to disrupt the wedding, and he flew Gaines to Tuscany anyway. Lily said that Victor didn’t go after Billy because of the wedding or out of loyalty to Ashland. Lily said Victor hated Billy for years. Ashland was aware that the bad blood between Billy and Victor went back a long way and that Tuscany was the final straw. Lily said there was no final straw where Victor was concerned.

Ashland knew Lily had a daughter. He asked how charitable she’d feel if someone repeatedly broke Matilda’s heart the way Billy did with Victoria. Lily didn’t think that justified continuing this war into infinity. Lily asked what it was about hounding Billy that gave Ashland so much satisfaction. Ashland said not much, now that Billy didn’t have much to lose – he’d already trashed his career. Lily said that Billy was coming to work for her as her COO, and he’d redeem himself as long as Ashland, Victor and Adam didn’t interfere. Ashland thought Lily was riled up because she wanted to know how this would affect Chancellor. He thought she was smart to keep Billy close so she could keep an eye on him, otherwise Billy would create his own drama. Lily wasn’t interested in management advice. Ashland said he wasn’t interested in feuding with Billy. He shared that his cancer treatment was going well. Lily was happy to hear that. He thought she’d appreciate what he was going through, since she was a cancer survivor. Ashland had a new lease on life, and he didn’t want to expend it on Billy. As long as Billy stuck to his word and moved on, Ashland wouldn’t bother him. Lily was happy and she wished Ashland well. He wished the same to her and Billy, then he left.

Lily went home and called the Chancellor receptionist in Chicago. After they discussed some work issues, Lily asked if Billy was in with Jill. He was, and it appeared to be going well. Lily ended the call. Later, a courier dropped off flowers from Billy. The note said he was proud of her and that he’d be home before her first day.

At the main house, Victor stated that Adam told him Billy came after Newman Media, but Billy failed. Victoria asked if Adam told Victor why. All Victor knew was that Billy dropped the plan for some reason. Victoria said she was the reason. She said that she found out Billy was planning to sue Newman Media and force them to admit the story about Ashland was true. “I demanded that [Billy] back down or else I would come straight to you and Adam,” Victoria lied. “If it weren’t for me, Newman Media would be in a huge mess right now,” Victoria stated. Victor thought that meant Victoria and Adam were even now. Victoria said she didn’t do this to protect Adam. She thought Adam should’ve been protecting Newman Media. Victor didn’t want Victoria using this to go after Adam.

Victoria said she wasn’t attacking Adam. Victoria wasn’t falling for Billy’s claim that he’d dropped the feud with Adam. Victor thought Victoria was right to be skeptical of Billy Victoria contended that Victor should admit he’d given Adam too much responsibility. Victoria knew Victor gave Adam the company to run out of love. Victor refused to rip that out from under Adam by selling Newman Media to Victoria. Victoria said that if Victor felt Adam needed propping, he could use the proceeds of Newman Media to buy Adam a new company. She also thought he should supervise Adam more. She asked him to imagine ChancComm combined with Newman Media and Newman/Locke – they’d be the dominant force in the industry. She asked how he could pass on that.

Victor asked that it wasn’t enough that Victoria beat Newman Media at getting ChancComm. She reminded him that he’d just said she was his daughter. He said she just had a major triumph. She wanted Newman Media too, and she thought it’d be a breeze. He warned her about overconfidence. She pointed out that Cyaxares used to be Ashland’s, so it’d be simple to reintegrate it into Newman/Locke. He asked if Ashland regretted selling Newman Media to him and Adam. Victoria said Ashland was focused on his health, but they had discussed what it would mean to combine the companies. Victoria said Ashland liked her ambition the most. Victor liked Victoria’s ambition too, but he didn’t want to sell her his company. He wanted to give her brother more time to prove himself as CEO. He wasn’t going to yank the company out from under Adam just because Victoria saw through Billy’s scheme before Adam did. Victoria took it in stride. She said that it wouldn’t be long before Adam ran the company into the ground and she could pick it up cheap. Victor didn’t see that happening.

Victoria went to work and talked to Nikki. Nikki was glad that Jill accepted their bid for ChancComm, and she was was pleased Billy didn’t have a media company to weaponize against the Newmans anymore. She said they never could trust his judgment, even when Victoria was with Billy. Victoria agreed. Nikki was also glad that Victor was just fine with Victoria besting Adam. Victoria said she just saw Victor, and he congratulated her. Nikki was delighted that a business issue didn’t cause any family strife. Nikki gave Victoria a gift. Red bottomed shoes to celebrate her victory. Traditionally, people celebrated business deals with champagne, but Nikki didn’t drink, or cigars, but Victoria didn’t like those. Nikki assumed Ashland would get Victoria flowers. Victoria wished she’d been wearing the shoes when she met Victor, since one of her business moves didn’t go over well.

Ashland walked in as Nikki learned that Victoria wanted Newman Media. Nikki thought it sounded like Victoria wanted to own the world. Ashland said Nikki said it like it was a bad thing. Victoria didn’t want to own the world. She said ChancComm used to belong to Newman Enterprises and Newman Media used to belong to Locke Communications group. She just wanted to bring everything back under the same umbrella where it belonged. Nikki wondered if Victoria just wanted to stick it to Adam. Victoria had far more important things to do in her life. She asked when Nikki became so invested in Adam’s welfare. Nikki wasn’t concerned about Adam; she just wanted the family to be peaceful. Victoria said Victor felt the same way because he turned down her offer to keep Adam employed and protect his delicate feelings. Victoria thought that Nikki should look for more shoes, in case Victor came around. Victoria told Ashland about the new tradition. Ashland joked to Nikki that he wore a size 11. Nikki thought Victoria should get rid of the idea of a turf war with Adam. Victoria suggested that Victor could buy Adam another company to play with. Victoria was bugged by the idea of a company with her name on it that wasn’t part of her empire. Nikki looked at Ashland, who smiled.

Victoria was in her office alone. She laid down the law with someone on the phone. Ashland returned and said he liked that she was steering the company with a firm hand. He gave her some coffee, and they took a break. She was happy because he was full of energy. He was surprised Nikki didn’t get behind the idea of Victoria pursuing Newman Media. Victoria didn’t hold that against her mom. She knew Nikki’s instinct was to reduce family tension. Ashland said that Victoria was spot on about Victor’s reaction – it was like Victor was proud Victoria had the guts to snake ChancComm out from under him. Victoria didn’t always understand her father the way she did now. She used to think he favored his sons over his daughters, especially Adam, because he was ruthless. Now she realized Victor just liked winners. It played to her advantage, since she’d been on a roll, coincidentally ever since she fell in love with Ashland. Ashland didn’t want to bring down the mood, but he noted that Victor broke Victoria’s winning streak when he refused to sell Newman Media. Victoria said Victor left the door open.

Victoria said Victor wanted to know what Ashland thought of her wanting to buy Newman Media. Ashland hoped Victoria said he supported her 100%. She did. She sensed that Victor thought Ashland was the one who wanted Cyaxares back and that Victoria offered to buy it for him, though. “Just when I thought he was done underestimating you,” Ashland said. Victoria added that Victor was overestimating Adam. Ashland asked if there was any truth to what Nikki said – was any part of Victoria trying to punish Adam for his past crimes. Victoria said it wasn’t a punishment – she wasn’t vindictive. She said it was about acknowledging Adam never earned his position. She knew people assumed she was where she was out of nepotism, and she fought that assumption every day. Which made it all the more frustrating that Adam was handed a company by their father. “What Victor giveth, he can taketh away,” Ashland said. Victoria vowed to make sure that happened, and Ashland raised his coffee cup to toast to that.

Victor went to Adam’s office and said he wanted to discuss Billy’s scheme. Adam said Billy realized the plan wasn’t going to work, so he waved the white flag. Victor said Victoria found out about Billy’s plan, and she put a stop to it. Adam said that Billy’s plan never would’ve worked anyway. He asked how Victoria found out, but Victor didn’t think that mattered. Adam said the last time he saw Victoria, she made a point of telling him how upset she was about Billy’s behavior, so Billy had her fooled too for awhile. “Victoria saw the whole picture and you didn’t. And you should have,” Victor stated. Adam stated that, as the mother of Billy’s children, Victoria had more opportunities to catch him in a lie than Adam did. Adam asked why Victoria waited for Billy to confess before she went to Victor. Victor said Adam was quibbling with Victoria’s timing instead of acknowledging what almost happened to the company. “Nothing almost happened,” Adam said. He was adamant that he would’ve figured out what Billy was up to, with or without Victoria’s help. Adam said he wasn’t ever going to use the videos of Billy drinking and gambling. Victor thought that was tantamount to Billy saying he wasn’t going to use the dirt on Ashland. Adam disagreed, and he said he was nothing like Billy. “I was only gonna use the videos if we needed to challenge [Billy’s] credibility,” Adam said. Victor thought that Billy would’ve pushed Adam to use them. Victor wanted to know what was up with Sally recording the videos. He asked if she was in on Billy’s scheme. Adam said of course Sally wasn’t involved; she was shocked Billy was faking. Adam understood why Victoria was so worked up – she wanted to protect her husband and business reputation, but he promised Newman Media was never in peril. Adam was more than willing to wash his hands on Billy and focus on the job. Victor decided to take a more active role around here. Adam said that wasn’t necessary, but Victor said this wasn’t up for debate. Victor left.

Adam paced around. He flashed back to a moment with Victor that took place in that very office. Victor said he’d always had faith Adam would overcome his tough past and become the sort of man he was today. Victor said he’d made it clear to everyone in the family that he’d never turn his back on Adam. Adam had promised to prove Victor was right to believe in him. Chelsea arrived, pulling Adam out of his memory. She wanted to set up a time and place for their meeting later. He said he had to cancel. She offered to just bring him takeout later. Adam was short with Chelsea as he asked what she wanted to say. She called him a jerk. He said he was annoyed with someone else, and he shouldn’t take it out on her. He apologized, and she accepted. She asked what happened. He said he was just reminded that when you were a Newman, there was no such thing as independence. Chelsea surmised that Victor was back to being Victor again. She was sure Adam had to see this coming. He said it didn’t make it less irritating. Chelsea lost count of how many times Victor pushed Adam aside or patronized him. She said Adam always came out ahead in the end. He didn’t know why he let Victor get to him. Chelsea said it was because Adam loved Victor, and Victor loved him too. Adam thanked Chelsea. It helped having someone around who knew his history. She said it was her history too. She was there if he ever needed to talk. She suggested they go for drinks and talk now. He agreed, and they left the office.

Nikki went home and found Victor at his chess board. Nikki knew what dilemma Victor was wrestling with. She just heard Victoria had her sights set on Newman Media. Victor asked if Victoria consulted Nikki on that. “Why would she? I’m only her COO,” Nikki sighed. Victor asked what Nikki thought of Victoria’s idea. Nikki thought Victor should discuss it with Victoria. Nikki said she was sure Victoria would have a compelling offer, should Victor be willing to entertain it. Victor noted that Nikki wasn’t willing to give him her opinion. She asked if he told Adam about Victoria’s offer.

Nikki sat with Victor at the chess board. He said this was an unforgiving game, and if you took your eyes off the board for a second, it all fell apart. Nikki wasn’t sure who this analogy was about. She asked who was in danger of making a mistake like that – Victor, Victoria or Adam? Victor had been happy with how things were going with the Newmans – Abby had her family, Nick was talking to him, and Adam had turned his life around. Nikki added that Ashland’s health was improving, and Victoria was optimistic about their life. Victor said he and Nikki had never been stronger. She said that the equilibrium seemed precarious. He agreed that he was waiting for the other shoe to drop, and he thought it might cause a major shift in the family. She said the fact that he was so worried made her worry. He told her not to. He said he adored her.

Recap written by Christine

Ashland visited Victoria at her office, and she was in a great mood because Jill called and wanted to hammer out the details for selling ChancComm to Newman/Locke. He asked if she was smiling because she got ChancComm or because she beat Victor and Adam. It was a little of both, and she was glad to have Newman’s old division back. He assumed her father and brother were seething. She’d talked to Victor, and she got the feeling that he was okay with this, but she knew Adam wouldn’t be. If she got her way, ChancComm wasn’t the only company Adam would lose. While Ashland thought consolidating media companies was a smart move, he wanted Victoria to be sure this was a battle she wanted to fight. He was still an outsider when it came to the constant one-upmanship in this family. He said Victor defended him when everyone else turned their back, so he was wondering if Victoria was going to unnecessarily poke the bear by going after Newman Media. Victoria agreed that Ashland was still an outsider in the family. She said he didn’t understand that a good business battle earned Victor’s respect, not his ire. She said if they acquired these companies, they’d dominate in the field. He loved it when she dominated like this, and he knew what it was like to want more and more and more. They kissed, and she said they made a great team. He recognized that she knew how to play things with her father, but Adam was a wild card. She said she knew how to handle Adam.

Lily went to Adam’s office to ask what he meant by that cryptic text. He asked her to remind her what it said. It said best of luck at Chancellor. Adam didn’t think that seemed cryptic. Lily didn’t believe Adam was sincerely wishing her well. She said that he’d known for some time that she got was promoted at CEO, but he didn’t send her the text until after Billy declared a truce with him. Adam asked if it was that hard to believe that, regardless of what was going on with him and Billy, he respected her and wanted her to do well. Lily didn’t trust Adam. She thought the text was a veiled threat. She wanted to believe the feud with him and Billy was over, but she knew how Adam liked having the last word. He said Billy had a lot of last words yesterday. She thought that he sent the text as a counter-punch because Billy got the best of him. He said he didn’t lose sleep over Billy’s tantrum, and his text was sincere. Lily reiterated that a truce had been declared – Billy left ChancComm even though he did nothing wrong, and he set his ego aside about clearing his name, so he proved he was the bigger man. Adam asked what Lily wanted, because he was sick of hearing about how Billy’s growth was better than anyone else’s. “Ah, there it is. You still haven’t let it go, have you?” Lily replied.

Adam truly wished Lily good luck. He asked why he’d alienate the CEO of Chancellor while he was still trying to acquire ChancComm. He asked if Jill made a decision, and Lily said he knew she couldn’t give him that information. He wanted to be on her good side, since she had influence over Jill. She said best of luck to him. He asked what that meant. And she pointedly said her intentions were sincere and asked if he couldn’t trust her. “I see what you did there,” Adam acknowledged. She said they’d just have to trust what the other said. She added that, in spite of his attempts to destroy Billy’s career, he was coming to work for her as COO. Victor walked in as Lily asked Adam to put the animosity toward Billy behind him, so they could all move on with their lives.

After Lily left, Adam revealed that Billy had only pretended to spiral out of control as a revenge plot. Adam said Billy had been planning to threaten to sue them, just like they threatened to sue him over Ashland. Victor thought it was pathetic that Billy couldn’t come up with his own plot and had just borrowed theirs. Adam said Billy came clean, and according to Lily, he was trying to be a better person. Victor didn’t think Billy would ever be a better person, but he told Adam to leave Billy alone. Victor reasoned that they’d knocked Billy down, and he wouldn’t get back up. Adam thought that was unusually merciful on Victor’s part. Victor said they had more important things to worry about. Jill called and said she was selling ChancComm to Newman/Locke. Adam was shocked and upset. He thought that Lily and Billy must’ve persuaded Jill to do this. Adam wanted to call Jill, but Victor told him to accept the loss. Victor was going to go congratulate Victoria, and he wanted Adam to do the same.

Victoria and Victor met at the main house. Victor assumed Victoria was here to gloat. She said she wasn’t, but he told her that getting Jill to sell her ChancComm was a hell of an accomplishment, and it was fine to gloat. He saw nothing wrong with doing a happy-dance in front of a defeated foe. She said she’d never do that to him, but maybe she would to Adam. Victor always disagreed with Victoria selling Newman’s media division to Billy and Chancellor. She felt it was the right decision at the time. He thought that ChancComm was back where it belonged. He was happy for her, but a little disappointed for Adam. She said that Ashland would be glad because he was a little concerned about Victor’s reaction. Victoria had told Ashland that Victor appreciated a bold business move. He confirmed that he did. She hoped he’d like this then – she offered to buy Newman Media.

Victor asked why Victoria didn’t come to both him and Adam with this proposal. She doubted Adam would entertain the offer. She thought Adam was probably spinning out after losing ChancComm to her, even though he’d done everything he could to weaken the company. Victor asked if this was a business move or if Victoria was trying to avenge Billy. Victoria said it was a business strategy, not a personal vendetta. Victor asked if it was personal for Ashland. Victoria said that Newman Media used to be Ashland’s and there would be some poetic justice in it coming back to him, but that wasn’t why she made her decision. She wanted to have a real stake in the media world, and if she had both these companies, Newman/Locke would be a powerhouse. She asked if he’d sell. “You’re my daughter. You’re Victor Newman’s daughter,” Victor proudly stated.

Victor didn’t see how it was in his and Adam’s advantage to sell Newman Media. He felt that Adam had been doing good things with the business. Victoria asked if Victor was sure about that. Victor thought Newman Media was a powerhouse, and Victoria said that was because Ashland made it that way. She hadn’t seen any innovation since the acquisition. He said that the fashion platform was a success, but she thought that was Sally and Chloe’s doing. Victoria said Adam was just writing the checks, while Victoria had proven her business acumen. Victor refused to compare his kids’ business skills. She thought he should sell Newman Media to her and Ashland before Adam did irreparable damage. He thought she was exaggerating. She said that Adam almost let Billy destroy the company.

At Crimson Lights on the patio, Nate asked Devon what happened with his request for shared custody of Dominic. Devon revealed that Abby and Chance said no. Nate felt bad for pushing Devon to ask. Devon said not to. He noted that Nate gave him the same advice Amanda did. Devon valued Nate’s opinion. He mentioned that Nate coached him through bringing Dominic into the world. Devon felt that the conversation with Abby and Chance was necessary, and it had pushed him to take action.

Devon had decided to file for shared custody. He never expected or wanted this to happen, but Abby and Chance made it clear they were against him having a bigger role in Dom’s life, and Devon was still concerned about Chance’s ability to parent. He knew he was a positive influence in Dom’s life, and he wanted to fight to protect it. Nate asked if this was the best way to handle it. Devon thought it was his only option. Nate worried about what happened when lawyers got involved. Devon didn’t want things to get messy, and he hoped they could get through it as painlessly as possible. Nate wished Devon luck.

Devon asked how living with Elena was. Nate said it was pretty great. He and Elena were concerned initially, because they worked together, but they rarely saw each other at the hospital, now that he was in an administrative role, so it was nice to see her when he got home. Devon was glad to hear it. He said ever since Nate and Elena got back from Victoria’s wedding, they’d been acting like newlyweds. Lily happened to come by, and Nate said he was just about to leave. He said he and Elena were going shopping for the house. Devon asked if they were lamp shopping because Elena threw away his ugly ones. Nate joked that he didn’t want to discuss it. He went inside to grab a drink for Elena.

Nate ran into Ashland, who said his cancer treatment was still doing well. The cancer wasn’t in remission, but it was abating. He hadn’t felt this good in ages. He hoped he’d get more years to build a life and business with Victoria.

Devon told Lily that he was pursuing full custody. Lily shared that Billy was going to be her COO. Deon asked if that meant Billy’s feud with Victor and Adam was over. Devon accepted that Billy made Lily happy, but he still had some concerns. Devon acknowledged Billy came a long way in his personal life, and Devon gave Lily a lot of credit for influencing Billy. However, Devon thought Billy was struggling professionally – look what happened at ChancComm. Lily said that wasn’t Billy’s fault. Devon said that Billy struggled so much to control himself that Victor and Adam were able to exploit that. Devon was worried Billy would be a professional liability for Lily.

Lily finished a call with Billy, then she went inside. She was surprised to see Nate was still there. Ashland said he intercepted Nate for a talk. Nate left. Ashland told Lily that Newman/Locke was officially in talks to buy ChancComm. She knew, and she’d be involved in those talks, as the new CEO. He hoped the negotiations would be pleasant and productive. He started to leave, but she had something to say. Lily had no interest in making excuses for Billy, and she had no interest in whether Ashland was part of the conspiracy to knock Billy off his perch. She also didn’t care if Ashland was actually guilty. She said that it was in the past, and Billy was walking away. Lily asked if Ashland could do the same.

Sally was at Society. She flashed back to Chloe ordering her to smooth things over with Chelsea so that they could work together as a team. Sally then flashed back to Adam brusquely telling her to stop spying on Billy and trying to score points with the boss. Sally called Chelsea and said they needed to figure out this working relationship. Chelsea arrived, but she said she didn’t know what this was all about since Sally already apologized and said she respected Chelsea and wanted to learn from her. “Let’s be real – you didn’t buy any of that. In fact, I didn’t even believe it as it was coming out of my mouth,” Sally replied. Sally had decided to stop spouting platitudes and really try to work together. Sally had some ideas, and she was prepared for Chelsea to reject them all, but Sally wanted Chelsea to provide constructive criticism instead of just saying her ideas were bad. Chloe arrived for the meeting. Sally said she wanted to figure this out, right here and right now.

Sally listed twenty ideas. Chelsea approved of two of them, and there was one she didn’t hate. Sally was dissappointed that so many of her ideas got shot down, but Chelsea said that she accepted 10%. Chloe thought those were pretty good numbers. Sally admitted she’d learned why some of her ideas weren’t as good as she thought, but she also thought Chelsea was biased against her. Chelsea said she was biased against bad ideas. Chelsea thought Sally should do some editing, because when she heard a bad idea from someone, she assumed their next idea would be bad too. She also thought that Sally should’ve picked her top five ideas instead of making them sit through a list of twenty suggestions. “Is that constructive enough for you?,” Chelsea asked. Sally said it was helpful. Chloe thought they’d made a great start. Adam came in and glowered as he looked around. He headed to the bar, and Chelsea rushed to him.

Adam wasn’t in the mood. Chelsea just wanted to say thanks for the talk they had with Connor. She said Connor was becoming okay with the sale of the penthouse, but he wanted her to move into the ranch. He hoped she was working hard to convince Connor that wasn’t the way to go. She said she was. She didn’t want to live that close to Victor. He said he was trying to give his father a wide berth right now too.

Adam was going to look for his own place to live eventually. He left the penthouse for the same reason as Chelsea. Being at the ranch was convenient because Connor could be around family. Chelsea said Connor didn’t need to be at the ranch now that she was back. Adam agreed. Chelsea asked Adam to coffee so they could discuss something important. He said they could grab a drink after work. Chelsea was here to listen to what happened with Victor. Adam said it was just business, and he was learning to rise above Victor pushing his buttons. Chelsea said Adam had really changed.

Back at the table, Chloe thought they should go back to the office because this wasn’t a productive work environment. Sally didn’t agree. She also thought she deserved an Oscar for sitting there with a smile on her face as Chelsea shut down all her ideas. Chloe thought Sally said she was learning a lot. Sally said she was learning to swallow her pride and fake a pleasant demeanor. Chloe sighed, but Sally said she was kidding. Sally said the other part of gaining Chelsea’s trust involved convincing her that she wasn’t interested in Adam, so running out of her would be the wrong move. Sally thought she needed to stay and maintain an air of calm and disinterest.

Chloe thought Sally was interested in Adam, and she said not to try and deny it. If Chloe could see it, she was sure Chelsea would too. Sally thought it sounded like Chloe was taking Chelsea’s side. Chloe said they were all on the same team. Chloe said Chelsea was her best friend, and she brought Sally on because she had a lot to offer. “But we’re not friends, so too bad for me,” Sally said. Chloe insisted that they were friends too, in their own way. Chloe was disappointed in Sally and Chelsea. Sally wanted to prove she was a team player. Chloe wanted Sally to take care of some business in NY. Sally thought the timing was off, and she asked if this was Chloe’s idea or Chelsea’s. Chloe said Sally didn’t get to question her assignments. Chloe thought it was best for Sally and Chelsea to separate for awhile. Chloe said Sally was the face of the brand, so she should go and completing these assignments would show Chelsea how valuable Sally was.

Chelsea returned to the table and said she and Adam were discussing Connor. With a smirk, Chelsea turned to Sally and added that Chelsea and Adam were really in sync as parents. Sally said that was good, since Connor was great and he deserved the best. Adam came over and said “Do you have a minute.” Chelsea leapt up, but Adam was talking to Sally. Adam and Sally went outside. Chloe let Chelsea know that Sally was going to NY. Chelsea thought Sally should get fired, but sending her out of town was the next best thing. Chloe was dismayed because she thought that Chelsea was glad she’d have Adam’s full attention while Sally was gone. Chloe was sure this was going to end in disaster. Chelsea said that she accept it if Adam didn’t see a future for them, but she at least had to try, even Connor said she and Adam had to put in a little effort. Chelsea said Chloe was only working with Adam because he changed. Chelsea also saw the change, and she thought things could be different this time. “The only thing in my way was Sally, and you just took care of that so thank you,” Chelsea said. Chloe groaned.

Outside, Adam apologized for being dismissive yesterday. He said he wasn’t on his best behavior after his run in with Billy. Sally didn’t take it personally. Sally was shivering, so Adam gave her his coat. Sally asked if Adam had business in NY. She had to go there, and it’d be great to have some company.

Update written by Joseph

Eli gives Lani a foot massage at home. They talk about Lani being on her feet and chasing perps. Eli assures Lani that she will be off her feet for the rest of the day as he will take care of her and the kids. Eli and Lani kiss until there’s a knock at the door. Eli says he will tell them it’s a bad time. Eli gets up to answer the door and it’s Paulina, who says she hopes this isn’t a bad time.

Anna and Tony enter the living room of the DiMera Mansion. Anna sees the decorations and assumes they are throwing them a party to welcome them home from Europe. Tony points out that the decorations say “Congratulations” so it’s not for them. They talk about their flight back. EJ walks in and welcomes them back. Anna asks about the party. EJ reveals it’s a wedding reception for his son and his wife. Tony is surprised Johnny got married and asks who the lucky girl is. EJ responds that she’s a gold digger and he predicts Johnny will have to pay a small fortune to get rid of this one.

Chanel lays in bed in Johnny’s room. She grabs her phone and calls Allie to inform her that Paulina is throwing her and Johnny a wedding reception at the DiMera Mansion in a couple hours, so she hoped Allie and Tripp could come. Allie jokes about it being last minute. Johnny comes out of the shower and asks Chanel if she’s ready for another round.

Marlena sits at home on the phone with John. Marlena tells him that he doesn’t have to keep calling and assures that she’s fine. Marlena encourages John to enjoy his poker game with Abe and Roman while she is just going to finish her tea and relax. Marlena tells John that she loves him and hangs up. Susan Banks then shows up at the door with a cross, believing that Marlena is still possessed by the Devil.

Paulina asks if it’s okay if she comes in. Lani responds that they were just settling in for a quiet evening. Paulina says she just wanted to come by in person to tell Lani that she’s throwing a wedding reception for Chanel tonight. Paulina adds that it would mean the world to her and Chanel if she could attend. Lani thanks her for including them but says she only gets a few hours a day with the twins. Paulina encourages Lani to just come for a few hours but Lani says no. Eli appreciates the invite but says Lani had a tough day so they are going to sit this one out. Paulina suggests they get the family together soon for a celebratory dinner. Eli says that sounds great and sends Chanel their love. Paulina tells them to have a nice evening as she exits. Lani questions Eli saying it sounds great. Eli says he’s just trying to be nice. Lani argues that he can’t say things like that to Paulina because if you give her an inch, she’ll take a mile.

Anna tells EJ that this is happy news, so he needs to stop being so cynical. Tony agrees and says Johnny must love Chanel. Tony encourages EJ to be happy and support their union by giving his blessing. EJ remarks that he thinks it’s a match made in Hell.

Chanel hangs up her phone as Johnny suggests they make love again. Chanel points out that just this morning, he was completely wiped out and now it’s like he’s unstoppable. Johnny thinks back to becoming possessed by the Devil. Chanel notes that he suddenly seems so far away and asks if everything is okay. Johnny says he was just trying to figure out how he went from being so out of it this morning to feeling like he can take over the world. Johnny guesses it’s because he’s crazy in love with his wife. Chanel reminds him that a bunch of people will be there soon to celebrate their love so they need to get ready. Johnny and Chanel then kiss.

Allie informs Tripp about the party and says it’s last minute but Chanel really wants them both there. Tripp says it sounds fun but he is on call tonight. Tripp agrees to still go to the party even though he might get called back to the hospital. Allie hopes they get lucky because she really wants him there with her. Tripp asks if she wants him there for moral support because she’s still on the fence about the marriage or to celebrate because she’s really on board with it now. Allie assures that she’s celebrating and feels really bad about the way she reacted at first. Tripp reminds her that Johnny and Chanel accepted her apology. Allie says that they claimed to but she said some really hurtful things. Tripp understands she was caught off guard and had reason to be worried. Allie remarks that Johnny may have been a serious player back in the day but she thinks he might be really in love for the first time, just like she is in love with Tripp. Allie suggests they go shower so they’re not late.

Marlena assures Susan that The Devil is gone. Susan wants to believe her but remains uncertain so she throws holy water on Marlena. Marlena pleads with her to stop and promises that it really is her. Susan decides she believes her so Marlena thanks her. Susan says she can keep the holy water just in case. Marlena understands her being afraid after all she’s been through. Susan thanks her for understanding. Marlena mentions that John told her what she did to her and says she’s so sorry. Susan assures that she doesn’t blame her because it wasn’t her. Susan jokes that being a cat wasn’t too bad but being Kristen was another story. Marlena points out how the Devil wanted her to seduce John. Susan assures that was never going to happen. Marlena says even in her darkest hour, she never stopped believing in John and their love.

Eli knows how Lani feels about Paulina but he doesn’t see the harm in going to the family dinner or the party. Lani argues that’s not how Paulina operates as if they say yes to her once then it will be every week. Lani complains about how Paulina barged in with no respect for boundaries or care for what they want as it’s all about what Paulina wants. Eli points out that right now it’s all about Chanel. Lani wants to do something nice for Chanel but remarks that Paulina bought her entire registry. Eli feels the best gift that she can give Chanel is to be there for her. Lani says she wants to be with the kids. Eli points out that they just put them down so they are out for the rest of the night. Lani questions where they will find a babysitter this late. Eli suggests himself while Lani goes to the party by herself but Lani says hell no. Eli knows she’s angry with Paulina but Chanel didn’t do anything wrong and she’d be very hurt if Lani is not there. Lani accepts that Eli is always right. Eli encourages her to go get dressed and be there for Chanel. Lani thanks him as they kiss and she then goes to get ready.

Allie and Tripp get dressed and ready to go to the party. They kiss until Tripp gets a call from the hospital. Tripp says he’s on his way. Tripp hopes it won’t take too long and says as soon as he’s done, he will meet her at the party. Tripp kisses her and then exits.

Johnny and Chanel continue kissing in bed. Johnny tells her that he loves her so much and that’s why he’s so excited for the party, so both of their families can see that. Chanel brings up that they think they moved way too fast. Johnny says they know that they made the right decision. Johnny declares that their rings mean they belong to each other because they’re in love and they want the whole world to see that which is what tonight’s about. Johnny says they will show everybody that they are proud of their decision and that they couldn’t be more excited about their incredible life together as husband and wife. Chanel says they should get ready to go see their families. Johnny declares they will torch any doubts in their minds.

Tony questions EJ calling Johnny and Chanel a match made in Hell. EJ insists that Johnny is being taken for a ride by a con artist. Anna argues that Tony has met Chanel and thinks she’s lovely. Tony adds that Johnny is obviously in love with her, so he’s willing to give her a chance. EJ asks what if that chance costs them millions of dollars. Anna tells him to stop being suspicious as not everyone is after the DiMera fortune. EJ brings up Chanel marrying Xander when she thought he was wealthy but then found out he wasn’t and it lasted one day. Tony argues that they don’t know the whole story and that was some time ago. Tony adds that Chanel has her own successful business and she’s already an heiress as Paulina is very wealthy. EJ complains about Paulina’s taste in decorations for the party. Paulina then walks in and questions him.

Susan talks about how much she admires Marlena. Susan brings up the party at the DiMera Mansion to celebrate Johnny getting married. Susan explains that Paulina put it together real last minute. Susan suggests Marlena come as Johnny’s grandmother but Marlena says she can’t do that. Susan questions why not. Marlena informs her that she’s not the only person she hurt when she wasn’t herself. Marlena reveals that she destroyed Paulina’s wedding, so she doesn’t think she would want her there to celebrate her daughter’s wedding.

Paulina asks what EJ was saying about her taste. EJ calls it festive. Anna introduces herself and Tony to Paulina. Paulina says it’s a pleasure to meet them both. Anna says they are over the moon that Chanel and Johnny found each other. Anna adds that she can’t wait to meet Chanel as she’s heard such nice things about her. EJ then calls Tony to help him with the champagne. Anna encourages Paulina to ignore EJ as he’s in a bad mood most of the time. Paulina points out that EJ isn’t as enthusiastic about Chanel becoming a DiMera like she is. Anna doesn’t think EJ is upset about Chanel but more because he just got booted out of the family company and might go to prison. Anna praises Paulina’s decorations and assures that she’s staying for the party as she loves celebrating love.

Chanel comes downstairs and prepares to head in to the living room when Allie arrives at the front door. Chanel tells her that she looks beautiful while Allie says she takes her breath away as they hug.

Devil Johnny gets dressed in his room. The Devil urges Johnny to stop fighting him so they can set the whole town on fire.

Chanel asks Allie about Tripp. Allie explains that he’s on call tonight but said he might come over later if it’s not too late when he’s done. Chanel tells Allie that she’s really glad she’s there.

Tony asks EJ when Chad and Abigail are arriving. EJ responds that they aren’t coming as he didn’t invite them. EJ complains that it’s bad enough that his home is being turned in to a Vegas wedding chapel, but if he also had to look at Chad’s smug face all evening, he might give the authorities a real reason to lock him up. Tony argues that this is a party but EJ says it’s not one that he wanted to have. Paulina tells Anna about the catering she got. Chanel and Allie come in and greet them. Paulina introduces Chanel to Anna. Anna tells Allie and Chanel that they both look gorgeous and calls them adorable. Anna continues by saying they look like they have something special going on and they just look so right together. Paulina says they are best friends, business associates, and now sisters in law. Paulina says they can’t get the party started without the groom, so she asks where Johnny is.

Johnny tells himself that this can’t be happening. The Devil says it is and he knows Johnny can feel his power coursing through his veins. The Devil urges him to stop fighting and just give in to it.

A loud crack of thunder startles Susan, who then begins shaking. Marlena notes that she’s pale as a ghost and asks if she’s alright. Susan then vomits onto Marlena’s shoes. Marlena offers to take Susan to the hospital but Susan is worried about the party. Marlena tells her she can’t go but Susan insists that she has to. Marlena says the only place she’s going is the hospital. Marlena wants to call EJ to let him know but Susan asks her not to scare EJ. Marlena says she won’t as she then calls EJ to tell him that Susan has an upset stomach and won’t be able to make it to the party. EJ asks if there’s anything he can do. Marlena says she will keep an eye on her. EJ sends his love as they hang up. Marlena tells Susan that they are now going to the hospital.

Chanel wants to go see what’s keeping Johnny. Paulina steps aside with Chanel and informs her that she invited Lani but she can’t make it. Chanel asks if Lani can’t or doesn’t want to. Paulina explains that Lani doesn’t want to be around her and it has nothing to do with Chanel. Lani then arrives and says she’s sorry that she’s late as she hugs Chanel, surprising Paulina. Lani says they couldn’t find a babysitter so Eli is staying with the kids. Lani congratulates Chanel and says she’s just happy to be here for her. Chanel says she’s so happy that she is there. EJ then announces he just got word that Susan won’t be able to make it, so everyone’s there except Johnny. EJ asks if there’s any idea where he is. Johnny then appears in the doorway, proclaiming “here’s Johnny”. Johnny joins Paulina and Chanel and then Allie as they talk about his entrance. Chanel thinks he freaked everyone out while Johnny says it was just a joke. Chanel talks about Johnny going from zero energy this morning to this. Chanel worries about Johnny running on fumes. Johnny assures that he’s fine and feels like a million bucks. Paulina calls to get this party started. Johnny apologizes for being late and says it’s going to be a great party. Paulina has Johnny call her mama and says they are family now. Anna calls for everyone’s attention as EJ has some words to say. EJ thanks everyone for joining them to celebrate the marriage of Johnny and Chanel. EJ talks about relationships between fathers and sons in the DiMera family. EJ acknowledges that he and Johnny don’t always see eye to eye and he doesn’t always agree with his choices, but Johnny is a grown man now fully capable of making his own decisions. EJ declares that he will always love him with all his heart and he wants nothing more than for him to be happy. EJ adds that it’s very clear that Chanel makes Johnny very happy. EJ welcomes Chanel to the family to end his toast. EJ introduces Paulina to speak next. Paulina talks about seeing her baby get married. Paulina says she’s proud of her career accomplishments but she’s most proud of her family. Paulina adds that all she ever wanted in life is for her daughters to be happy and it looks like they are now. Paulina talks about having confidence in Chanel. Paulina tells Johnny to keep Chanel happy or else he’ll have to answer to her. Paulina asks if Chanel and Johnny would like to speak next but Allie says there is something she’d like to say first. Allie admits she wasn’t exactly supportive when Chanel and Johnny first announced their marriage and says she apologized but she knows it hurt badly. Allie says she’s here to apologize again in public and let them all know how overjoyed she is that her brother and her best friend have found true love with each other. Allie says she’s so lucky to have both of them in her life. Allie hopes they are happy together forever. Lani speaks next and wishes Chanel and Johnny a wonderful life together. Lani says she couldn’t be happier to have Chanel as a sister.

Eli tries to sit down to watch TV but the babies wake up crying, so he goes to check on them.

Lani adds that she’s very happy to have Johnny as a brother in law. Johnny jokes that he’s lucky to have such a hot sister in law. Chanel thanks Lani and everyone for being there and for their beautiful words. Chanel appreciates EJ letting them know that he respects their decision even though he doesn’t agree with it. Chanel thanks Paulina for the amazing party and for her love and support. Chanel tells Allie that she’s already the best friend she could ever ask for and now they are sisters. Chanel thanks the whole DiMera family for opening up their home and hearts to her. Chanel says she’s so grateful and can’t wait to know them all better. Chanel toasts to Johnny, who she is head over heels in love with. Anna tells Johnny to go on and kiss the bride, so he kisses Chanel.

Marlena has Tripp check on Susan in the hospital. Susan talks about feeling fine earlier but reveals she did have one of her visions this morning. Marlena says that’s why she contacted her. Tripp asks if having a vision is unusual. Susan says she has them all the time but this one was completely different and she’s never experienced anything like it in her life. Susan has no idea what it was but it literally made her sick.

Johnny declares that it’s now his turn and he wants to start by paying homage to Stefano DiMera, who he loved, revered, and misses to this day. Johnny talks about Stefano giving him everything a kid could want and that he taught him nothing was more important than family. Johnny says that Stefano let him know without question that he was his favorite. Johnny thought Stefano was the greatest but when he got older, he realized some people thought Stefano was a terrible person or evil but he never saw it that way. Johnny saw Stefano as a man who knew what he wanted and didn’t let anything stand in his way. Johnny doesn’t consider that evil, he thinks it’s smart and something to be admired. Johnny says it’s taken him awhile to figure out what he wants but he finally has. Johnny then tells Chanel that he’s come to realize it’s not her. Johnny announces he’s sorry but he doesn’t want to be married to her anymore, leaving everyone in the room in shock.

John takes care of Marlena at home. Marlena assures that she’s fine. There’s a knock at the door. Marlena promises John that the nightmare is behind them and The Devil is not coming back. Marlena then answers the door to see Johnny.

Gwen asks what Jennifer wants to say. Jennifer states that she’s so glad Gwen and Jack worked things out because Jack loves all three of his children and she knows how much it means to him to have Gwen in his life. Gwen says it means a lot to her too. Jennifer knows it might not be easy but she hoped Gwen could stay on good terms with Abigail. Gwen agrees to try. Jennifer suggests it could be easier if she and Gwen got to know each other and says they never really got to work through what Laura did to Gwen all those years ago and what happened in Laura’s room on the day she died. Gwen argues that Jennifer was just setting her up and that she just wants to know if she killed Laura.

EJ questions if Chad will enlighten him but guesses not since he told Kate to remain silent, so Kate will have to spill the beans. Kate responds that she will tell him and that it’s about Lucas.

Marlena tells Johnny it’s good to see him and invites him inside, asking what they owe the pleasure to. Johnny says he had to see how Marlena was doing. John says everyone wants to know how she’s doing. Marlena doesn’t think she has seen him since Christmas. Johnny notes that it wasn’t exactly a fun day. John encourages that it’s a new year and that horrible ordeal is behind them now. Johnny thinks back to the Devil possessing him. Marlena asks if something is wrong.

Xander understands Abigail not liking the idea of him and Gwen being together. Abigail says she doesn’t give a damn about that as his personal life isn’t her business. Xander questions her saying that him helping her find Sarah is a bad idea then. Xander asks what she’s not telling him. Abigail informs him that she just came from her parents’ house and Gwen was there when she mentioned looking in to Sarah’s disappearance. Abigail informs Xander that Gwen accused her of trying to create trouble for them instead of being concerned for her cousin

Jack assures Gwen that Jennifer is not accusing her of doing anything to cause Laura’s death. Gwen says she told the police everything that happened that day. Jennifer points out that Gwen never told her. Jennifer says she didn’t mean to put her on the defensive, she just wants to hear what she told the police. Gwen admits she was in quite a state when she found out that Laura paid off her mother to disappear as that decision completely changed the course of her life. Gwen adds that she was quite displeased when Laura showed up at her door and they did argue quite a bit, but swears that Laura getting hurt and killed was an accident as she never intended any harm on her. Gwen hopes that Jennifer can believe her.

Marlena asks if Johnny is alright. Johnny claims he’s fine and just been a little off since getting back from Italy. Marlena doesn’t think recovering from jet lag should take that long. John asks about Johnny taking that trip with his girlfriend. Johnny reveals to John and Marlena that he and Chanel got married. John thinks it’s kind of sudden. Johnny says they really love each other and it seemed romantic to tie the knot in Italy. Marlena congratulates him. John mentions that Allie keeps telling them what a fantastic person Chanel is. Johnny says he’s very lucky to have found her. Marlena hugs Johnny and says she’s so happy for him. Marlena wishes them a lifetime of happiness. Johnny thanks them for being great about this. John asks why they wouldn’t be. Johnny informs them that his parents didn’t exactly have the same reaction.

Chanel tells Paulina that she doesn’t have to throw her and Johnny a party. Paulina insists on celebrating her marriage. Chanel feels she’s already been so generous. Paulina points out that she wasn’t at the wedding so she wants to give the reception. Paulina suggests doing it tonight and wants to call Sami but Chanel informs her that Sami left town with Allie’s dad. Paulina still doesn’t understand Johnny’s family tree. Paulina decides she’ll call EJ but Chanel says he already has a lot on his plate. Paulina questions what could be more important than celebrating his son’s marriage to a beautiful woman. Chanel then reveals that EJ is facing kidnapping charges.

EJ questions this being about Lucas. Kate says that EJ is not going to like it. EJ responds that he already knows from Nicole, which Kate and Chad question. EJ clarifies that Allie told Nicole that Lucas and Sami left town together. Kate claims that Chad was just trying to delay the inevitable. EJ questions Chad thinking he’d find that news upsetting. Chad asks if he was wrong. EJ admits he was not amused to find out that his wife skipped town with her ex-husband but he’s perplexed as to why Chad didn’t want him to find out. EJ says not to tell him that he’s trying to spare his feelings.

Xander explains to Abigail that she’s not the one that Gwen is upset with, it’s him as she’s unhappy that he’s trying to figure out what happened to Sarah even though he assured that it’s over between he and Sarah. Xander says he just wants to know that Sarah is alright for Maggie’s sake since Maggie already lost one daughter this past year. Xander claims that’s the only reason he’s looking for Sarah. Abigail asks if he’s sure. Xander confirms that he’s with Gwen now and he’s going to make her see it. Abigail says he has his work cut out for him. Xander says that’s his problem. Xander asks if Abigail is going to let him help her. Abigail admits she could use someone doing the leg work since she has a paper to run. Xander asks how to start. Abigail says that she wants to know how Sarah left and where she went since Maggie said Sarah’s car is still parked in the Kiriakis garage. Xander brings up that Sarah did have frequent flyer miles at three different airports since they were planning a honeymoon. Abigali suggests looking at her trip history if they had her username and passwords. Xander reveals that he has them on his phone.

Gwen remarks that Jennifer’s silence speaks volumes. Jennifer stops Gwen and says she just needed a minute because it’s hard to hear about the end of her mother’s life. Jennifer tells Gwen that she does believe her. Gwen thanks her. Gwen says regardless of how she felt about Laura, Jennifer loved her, and she knows that must have been a hideous way to lose her. Jennifer acknowledges that Laura wasn’t perfect as she struggled with mental illness when she was young. Jennifer adds that her and Jack’s marriage was on shaky ground when Gwen’s mother showed up which was really upsetting for Laura. Jennifer states that Laura told her that she lied to Gwen’s mother because she wanted her and Jack to be happy. Jennifer assures that Gwen is not to blame for that and it’s no excuse for how she treated her, so she is so sorry for that.

Chad claims to EJ that he had a very good reason to keep him from finding out about Sami and Lucas. EJ thinks he would revel in his unhappiness. Chad says he’ll always do what’s best for the company since last time Sami cheated on him with Lucas, he kidnapped her, so God knows what he’ll do next. EJ swears that he did not have Sami kidnapped and informs him that the person who did is Lucas. Kate questions where the hell that comes from. EJ admits he doesn’t have any proof yet but he knows Lucas kidnapped Sami and framed him for it. EJ adds that Chad is taking advantage of that to remain in charge of the company. EJ reminds Kate that he gave her job to her here and asks how long it will be before Chad sacks everyone he hired. EJ advises Kate not let Chad get away with that.

Marlena asks Johnny about telling Sami about his elopement. John guesses Sami wasn’t real happy about it. Johnny hopes Sami and Lucas stay gone long enough for Sami to cool off. Johnny adds that he still has to deal with EJ. Marlena guesses that EJ didn’t congratulate him and welcome his wife in to the family. Johnny says after what EJ did to Sami, he could care less what he thinks. Marlena asks if he thinks EJ kidnapped Sami. Johnny questions if Marlena doesn’t think so. Marlena admits it looks bad. Johnny insists that he did it. John points out that EJ will go to prison if he’s found guilty. Johnny says that’s good as he doesn’t want anything to do with EJ or his money. Johnny adds that he’s giving back everything EJ sunk in to his movie so he will have nothing to do with that either. John questions Johnny still thinking about making that movie. Johnny flashes back to being possessed by the Devil.

Xander and Abigail check Sarah’s frequent flyer miles but find nothing. Abigail concludes that Sarah did not fly from the Salem airport while Xander says all they really know is that she didn’t use her frequent flyer miles to purchase the ticket. Abigail suggests she could’ve taken an airport bus but if she paid cash, there’s no way to track her. Abigail wonders if Sarah rented a car. Xander suggests getting a passenger list for the day but Abigail doesn’t think she could make a case for getting one. Abigail asks Xander if there was anything off about Sarah the day before their wedding. Xander says she was as happy as he was and he wishes he hadn’t let her talk him in to sleeping at the Salem Inn that night. Xander says Sarah was superstitious about him not seeing the wedding dress, then the next morning it was like she was another person. Abigail says she’s at a loss. Abigail brings up another way to track her if she chartered a private plane but that doesn’t sound like Sarah. Xander agrees but repeats that she was another person that day.

Jennifer talks to Gwen about when Gwen’s mom came here and she wonders what would’ve happened if she answered the door instead of Laura. Gwen questions if she would’ve invited Jack’s bastard child in to her home. Jennifer can’t say for sure but she’d like to believe that she would have thought about it rationally and realized that regardless of Jack’s behavior, Gwen was not to blame for any of it, so she’d like to think they would have talked and made Gwen part of their lives. Gwen says it’s pretty to think so. Jennifer says what she couldn’t do, she can do now. Jennifer tells Gwen that when they come back, she is always welcome in this house. Gwen thanks her. Jack assures that Jennifer doesn’t say what she doesn’t mean. Jennifer tells Gwen to let them know if she needs anything while they are in Boston. Gwen thanks her for what she said. Jack hugs Gwen goodbye

EJ argues that Kate must have some loyalty to him and brings up how he ousted Jake from the company after he broke her heart. Kate points out that he ousted him by one vote which was her vote. EJ argues that he rewarded Kate with a position that allowed her to demonstrate her worth to the company. EJ says that if Kate can prove that Lucas framed him, he can convince Mr. Shin to put him back in charge and Kate’s position will be more secure than it is now. Chad says that’s not true as he and Kate go way back. Chad declares that as long as he’s here, Kate will have a job here. Kate tells EJ that she’s sorry but she knows her son and Lucas is not capable of kidnapping the mother of his children and keeping her imprisoned for months. Kate adds that Chad has no reason to do it, so that leaves the only person capable of doing that as EJ.

Paulina tells Chanel that she saw the headlines about EJ getting arrested but figured it was a white collar crime or something. Chanel calls it DiMera payback. Paulina asks what Chanel thinks about that. Chanel remarks that her in-laws aren’t the only dysfunctional family in Salem. Paulina feels both families need to host this party. Paulina points out that EJ is out on bail. Chanel reminds her that EJ didn’t exactly open her into his family with open arms. Paulina declares that she’ll get EJ straight as it’s clear how Johnny feels about her, so EJ better get on board if he doesn’t want to lose his son.

John questions if Johnny is still planning on making that movie. Johnny says no and claims there is no way he would make it now. Marlena asks how far he had gone with. Johnny says it was just in the planning stages and he had a deal with a studio to distribute it but he’ll just tell them that he’s shelving the project. Johnny brings up that he said he wouldn’t make the movie without Marlena’s blessing and when she gave it to him, she wasn’t exactly her. Marlena hates to see him have to give up on his dreams. Johnny says he’ll just find another story to tell. Johnny declares that the demonic possession story is officially dead and buried…

Abigail tells Xander that if Sarah did charter a private plane, it would make her harder to find but maybe that’s what she wanted. Xander adds that she did lie to Maggie about where she was for a year. Xander brings up the airfield where Victor keeps the company jet and says there’s a bunch of private hangars there. Abigail points out that DiMera uses the same airfield so she could interview both crews. Xander wonders about some of those pilots taking you where ever you wanna go, no questions asked. Abigail decides to head to DiMera to talk to the travel departments and to see what information she can get. Xander knows he’s not her favorite person and that she’s only doing this to help Maggie and Sarah, not him, but he still wants to thank her. Abigail tells Xander that all he has to do is help her find Sarah.

After Gwen leaves, Jennifer tells Jack that it was really good they cleared the air before they leave. Jack says Jennifer deserved to hear Gwen’s version of what happened to Laura and that she was incredibly decent about it. Jennifer mentions Laura’s death being ruled an accident but only Laura and Gwen know the truth, so she just has to trust that Gwen isn’t hiding something from her. Jack points out that it’s getting late and they have one more stop to make. Jennifer cries that she’s dreading that already.

Paulina tells Chanel not to worry as by the time she’s through with EJ, he will be as excited about the reception she is. Paulina encourages Chanel to go put on her prettiest dress. Chanel argues that she knows EJ better than she does and he hates the idea of them being married. Chanel adds that EJ is used to getting his way. Paulina remarks that she is too and she’s tangled with the Devil, so compared to him, EJ is a pussycat. Paulina offers Chanel a ride home. Chanel says that Johnny is picking her up but Paulina insists because she’s itching to talk to EJ face to face.

EJ is disappointed with Kate as he doesn’t know if she’s being a mercenary or just stupid. EJ warns that he won’t forget this betrayal anytime soon. Chad questions what EJ is doing here and threatens to call security. EJ says he has a right to remove his personal possessions. Chad informs EJ that they have been boxed up and are waiting for him at the front desk. Chad then hands EJ his CEO title from the desk. EJ warns Chad to enjoy it while he can, because he’ll be back behind that desk before he knows it. EJ then exits the office. Kate tells Chad that it could’ve been worse. Chad admits he worried that Kate was going to tell EJ the truth for a minute. Kate admits she considered it but then thought about what EJ would do if he found out that Chad and Lucas conspired to frame him. Chad assures that Kate did the right thing. Kate doesn’t know about that but says somewhere out there in the universe, Stefano is looking down at Chad and saying “that’s my boy.” Kate then exits the office.

Jack and Jennifer leave Julie’s Place after saying goodbye to Doug and Julie. Jack says it’s been a hell of a day for Jennifer. Jennifer admits she lost track of how much she loves this town and every person in it. Jack encourages that this isn’t forever as they will get the paper up and running and come right back. Jack adds that it’s just a three hour flight away. Jennifer cries that this is her home and it’s always so hard to say goodbye.

Marlena tells Johnny that she’s lucky to have such an understanding grandson. Johnny says he’s the lucky one and he’s really glad she’s feeling better. Johnny gets a text from Chanel that she is on her way home, so he has to go. Johnny talks about liking calling Chanel his wife. Johnny thanks John and Marlena for being happy for him. Johnny hugs Marlena. Marlena wants him to promise to see a doctor if he doesn’t start feeling better. Johnny insists that he’s just a little tired. John tells Johnny to get some rest as he exits.

Xander returns to his hotel room where Gwen is. Xander asks about her going out. Gwen says she went to Jack’s house as he wanted to straighten things out before he left town. Xander mentions bumping in to Jack and Jennifer at Steve’s house and says he put in a good word. Gwen asks if Steve is going to look for Sarah. Xander informs her that he can’t as he already took on another big case. Gwen says she’s sorry and asks what he will do now. Xander says it turns out there’s another person who wants to find Sarah just as much as he does. Gwen guesses that’s Abigail.

Abigail calls to have all of the contact information for DiMera pilots and asks if they have to clear flying someone from outside the company. Abigail says she will be down in awhile to pick up whatever they have. Abigail hangs up and then heads in to the office to see Chad. Chad calls it a nice surprise as Abigail said she wanted to see how his first day without EJ was going. Chad informs her that EJ showed up to get his stuff. Abigail jokes about Chad not missing having someone to share the workload with. Chad responds that it turns out he might be able to count on Kate.

Kate finds Jack and Jennifer outside in tears and asks who died. Jennifer explains that they are heading to the airport to run a local newspaper in Boston. Kate says it’s too bad she didn’t get here earlier so they could get caught up over coffee. Jennifer remarks that she’s sorry she missed that. Kate asks if Jennifer is still angry over the little fling she and Jack had. Jennifer asks how she could be angry over something so insignificant. Kate tells them to have a nice flight and heads on in to Julie’s Place. Jennifer tells Jack that she couldn’t help herself as they walk away.

EJ goes home to the DiMera Mansion and tells the portrait of Stefano that he’s sure Chad got to Kate and they are all conspiring against him. EJ remarks that it seems he has no other choice but to take them all down. Paulina walks in and asks if she’s interrupting. EJ says not at all and that it’s lovely to see her again. EJ remarks that he was just talking to his father. Paulina comments that it looks like he’s giving him the silent treatment. Paulina is sorry to cut his conversation short but they have work to do on throwing a wedding reception since Johnny and Chanel never had one. EJ asks if she has a venue in mind. Paulina declares they are going to have it right here in the DiMera Mansion.

Johnny looks in the mirror in his room. The Devil tells Johnny to stop fighting him as they have so much to do together. The Devil tells Johnny to give in to him and he’ll make him a star like he wants. The Devil declares that this will be so much fun as Chanel then enters his room.

John brings Marlena more tea and comments that it was nice of Johnny to stop by. Marlena brings up Johnny being a married man and says he just didn’t seem like himself today.

Chanel asks if Johnny is okay. Johnny claims he’s fine. Chanel hopes he means it because Paulina has decided to throw them a wedding reception tonight. Chanel knows Johnny hasn’t been feeling great. Johnny says he’s feeling much better and thinks a party in their honor sounds like all the fun in the world.

Days of Our Lives Update

Update written by Joseph

Nicole sits at work with Duke the teddy bear, saying this never should’ve happened to him. Nicole thanks Duke for always being there. EJ arrives and says they need to talk but Nicole says now is not a good time because she’s mourning the death of a friend. EJ thought he tossed Duke months ago. Nicole responds that he did but it turns out that EJ is the one who should have been tossed.

In the town square, Ava questions Rafe thinking it was her that cut the head off of Duke. Rafe asks if it was. Ava thinks back to doing that but then asks Rafe why she would do that to something that means so much to Rafe and Nicole.

Xander and Rex bump in to each other outside the Brady Pub. Rex apologizes while Xander offers to buy him a beer.

Gwen questions Abigail writing a story about Sarah Horton. Abigail explains that she just decided because Maggie hasn’t been able to reach Sarah and she’s starting to think something might really be wrong since her phone is out of service. Jennifer realizes that’s why Xander stopped by to see Steve when they were there. Jack notes that Steve just took another case so he probably won’t be able to help find Sarah. Abigail guesses it’s up to her to find Sarah. Gwen questions why on earth she would do that.

Kate goes to the DiMera office and tells Chad that she’s seen power change hands here once or twice so she advises Chad not to be too cocky. Chad argues that EJ is the one who was cocky. Chad says he won’t feel guilty for enjoying EJ’s downfall when he brought it on himself. Kate questions Chad believing that EJ arranged Sami’s kidnapping. Chad remarks that it sure looks that way based on the evidence. Kate brings up Chad bringing that evidence to Mr. Shin. Chad feels it would’ve been negligent not to since EJ was using company funds for a personal vendetta. Kate says it just seems so incredibly stupid and easily traceable so she’s surprised that the discovery was so conveniently timed. Chad questions if Kate is accusing him of cooking the books to get EJ.

EJ guesses that Nicole is still angry with him. Nicole asks why she would be angry just because he unceremoniously dumped her behind her back. Nicole doesn’t want to get in to it and repeats that it’s not a good time. EJ questions her mourning a stuffed animal. Nicole says at least Duke has sentimental value. EJ questions her fishing Duke out of the trash. Nicole asks who the hell EJ is to throw away something that belongs to her. EJ complains that the bear was a connection between her and Rafe which she said she wanted to break, so he thought she meant it. Nicole argues that she thought EJ meant it when he said he was done with Sami but he took her back in even though she cheated on him. Nicole calls Sami obnoxious and self absorbed. Nicole accuses Sami of cutting Duke’s head off. EJ questions her thinking Sami is responsible. Nicole asks who else would do something so loony and warns that Sami is starting to scare the Hell out of her.

Ava doesn’t know why Rafe would think she would destroy a cute little bear that never did anything to her. Rafe argues that it’s what Duke represents as she’s made it clear that his friendship with Nicole bothers her. Ava says that they keep telling her there’s nothing to worry about, so she believes them. Ava asks if something has changed and if she has a reason to be jealous.

Rex questions why Xander would want to buy him a beer. Xander says the last time they ran in to each other, they didn’t finish their conversation. Rex feels they did. Xander still doesn’t understand what happened with Rex and Sarah. Xander asks what could be the harm in one beer.

Abigail tells Gwen that Sarah is her cousin and she’s family so she questions why she shouldn’t help find her. Gwen argues that Abigail is a reporter, not a private detective. Abigail feels she can draw attention to the fact that no one knows where Sarah is. Gwen argues that Sarah wanted time to herself. Abigail points out that was almost a year ago. Gwen asks why imagine the worst. Abigail says she promised Maggie that she would try to find out where Sarah is. Gwen accuses Abigail of just trying to get back at her.

Rafe assures Ava that she has nothing to worry about as he and Nicole are just old friends. Ava questions why corner her about the bear then. Rafe brings up that Ava said she was going to Basic Black the other day to see Nicole. Ava claims that was to invite her over for New Year’s Eve, but she was out, so she left without laying a hand on the bear. Rafe apologizes and says he’s just a cop while Ava had means and opportunity. Ava claims she had no motive since Nicole has been a really good friend to her and Rafe is the man she loves. Ava remarks that she would never do anything to hurt either one of them and she knows neither of them would hurt her.

EJ tells Nicole that he knows Sami can be vindictive but he can’t imagine her taking revenge on a stuffed animal. Nicole feels Sami doesn’t want her to forget how much she hates her. Nicole tells EJ not to come crying to her when he finds a horse’s head in his bed. EJ states that if Nicole really thinks Sami did this, he will just ask her when they are on speaking terms again. Nicole remarks that it won’t be for awhile because Sami left town which shocks EJ. Nicole informs EJ that Sami packed off and rode in to the sunset with Lucas by her side.

Kate tells Chad that EJ is a lot of things but he’s very rarely careless so she finds it hard to believe that he would lead a paper trail for Chad to follow. Chad argues that there was a fair amount of digging involved. Kate questions what prompted that digging. Chad says that the kidnapper told the cops that EJ was the mastermind, so he decided to find out if it was true because he wasn’t going to let EJ take them all down with him. Kate says that makes sense but she doesn’t believe it. Kate asks Chad for the truth and guesses that he planted the evidence.

Abigail tells Gwen that she wants to find her cousin and this has nothing to do with her. Gwen argues that it has everything to do with Xander, who is the man she loves. Gwen says that Xander was hurt terribly by Sarah so all of this will stir up those memories. Jack questions if Gwen is saying that Abigail should forget that Sarah is missing and make no effort to locate her because it will make it easier on Xander. Gwen argues that there is no story here as Sarah decided not to marry Xander at the last minute. Abigail remarks that is the reason Xander is with Gwen now. Gwen accuses Abigail of being out to get her. Gwen shouts that she will not let Abigail succeed.

Rex and Xander sit together at the Brady Pub where Rex goes over how Sarah dumped him before they went to the airport. Xander asks if he remembers her exact words. Rex says that Sarah said she realized she was not prepared to spend her life with any man and needed time to figure out what she did want. Xander argues that it doesn’t make any sense. Xander brings up the night that he left Sarah before the wedding, they were so happy and couldn’t wait to get married, then she torpedoed that to get with Rex and then she had another 180. Rex says that Sarah had her mind made up and basically warned him not to come looking for her. Xander calls it bizarre, especially when you factor in the Susan/Kristen bit which Rex questions.

Rafe suggests he and Ava just go home. Ava says he owes her an apology first, because she’s offended that he thinks she would do something so deranged. Rafe agrees and apologizes for being suspicious of her. Rafe adds that for what it’s worth, Nicole thinks Sami did it and she’s probably right. Ava mentions seeing a blonde getting on the elevator as she was leaving, so it could’ve been Sami. Rafe asks if she remembers what time it was so that he can check the security cameras.

EJ questions Nicole about Sami leaving with Lucas and says she must be joking. Nicole informs him that Rafe heard it from Allie, who said that Sami decided to be with Lucas so they left town to be alone together. EJ can’t believe this as he knew Sami was upset with him but not to go running back to Lucas. Nicole compares it to their situation as EJ ran back to Sami, but she doesn’t care and is relieved to be rid of him. EJ calls it insane that Sami went back to Lucas when he’s the one who had her kidnapped. Nicole reminds him that according to the police, that was EJ. EJ argues that she believed him. Nicole says she also believed EJ was done with Sami and wanted to be with her. EJ argues that he did not have Sami kidnapped and insists that Lucas set him up. Nicole asks if he has any proof. EJ admits he does not. Nicole guesses the evidence is piling up and the DiMera board thinks so too since EJ is out of a job. EJ argues that the evidence is a pack of lies manufactured by Chad.

Chad tells Kate that he had no reason to plant the evidence. Chad questions Kate thinking he’s that vindictive. Kate knows he was very bothered by EJ being able to worm his way in to Johnny’s movie which meant he would have had sex scenes with Abigail. Kate feels framing EJ would be perfect payback. Chad agrees that he’d be completely justified but he didn’t do it. Chad suggests this conversation just be over then. Kate warns Chad that this is a very dangerous game he’s playing. Chad insists that he didn’t do it. Kate wants Chad to swear on his father’s grave that he’s telling the truth. Chad can’t do it so Kate says she knew it. Chad then reveals to Kate that the evidence was planted, but it was by her son, Lucas.

Jack asks Gwen to calm down and says that Abigail is not trying to come between her and Xander. Gwen complains that Jack is taking Abigail’s side. Jack says this is a bad situation and they are very worried that something terrible might have happened to Sarah. Abigail swears that she’s only looking in to this because she’s genuinely worried about Sarah. Gwen thinks back to talking to Ava about this. Abigail decides she should go now. Abigail tells Jack and Jennifer that the Boston paper is lucky to be getting them and reminds them that they both promised to come back soon. Abigail adds that she will bring the kids to see them when they get settled. They tell Abigail they love her. Jennifer decides to walk Abigail out. Jack goes over to Gwen and questions what’s really going on here and why she’s so afraid that she’s going to lose Xander.

Xander explains to Rex that Kristen was pretending to be Susan when she tipped him off about Rex and Sarah being in bed together. Xander says he didn’t realize it was Kristen until Susan told him a few weeks ago, so he went to confront Kristen at the police station but Kristen said she just wanted to break the bad news to him. Xander can’t believe he fell for the act. Rex calls Kristen creative and brings up that the DiMeras have a secret, deserted island they use to get rid of people permanently. Rex adds that Kristen planned to ship Kate there. Rex reveals to Xander that Kristen had a mask that made her look exactly like Kate. Rex calls it a nifty way to get rid of someone and remarks that Xander’s lucky it didn’t happen to him.

Kate tells Chad that Lucas wouldn’t do that even to EJ. Chad assures her that he walked in and found Lucas on the computer. Kate argues that Lucas doesn’t have a password. Chad reveals that Lucas had Kate’s. Chad says that Lucas made it look like EJ was using company funds to pay off Sami’s kidnapper. Kate asks if he’s sure. Chad confirms that he confronted Lucas, who said it was in both of their best interests if they let EJ take the fall. Kate realizes Lucas wanted EJ out of the way, so he could have a chance with Sami. Kate adds that it actually worked since Sami turned her back on EJ and left Salem with Lucas this morning. Kate doesn’t get why Lucas would go through all the trouble of framing EJ when they already had pressed charges against EJ. Chad reveals that EJ was charged, but he doesn’t think EJ is guilty as he’s pretty sure the kidnapper was Lucas.

Nicole questions EJ saying Chad framed him. EJ insists that he would never be sloppy enough to leave a paper trail and that Chad concocted those payments to Sami’s kidnapper to put the final nail in his coffin because Chad’s always wanted to run the company on his own but he knew Mr. Shin would never get rid of him. Nicole questions EJ saying that Lucas kidnapped Sami and asks why the hired goon pointed the finger at EJ. EJ says it was on Lucas’s orders. Nicole asks if Chad made up evidence to make him look more guilty and calls it some conspiracy theory. EJ insists that he’s innocent as he did not have Sami kidnapped, so he’d have no reason to make those payments. Nicole doesn’t care because it’s over between them, personally and professionally. Nicole says now that he’s out of DiMera, she suggests he leaves before she has him thrown out. EJ says not until he does what he came to do. EJ says he has to tell her how sorry he is for hurting her. EJ prays that Nicole finds it in her heart to forgive him.

Ava tells Rafe that she was rushing around and has no idea what time she left Nicole’s office. Rafe says all he has to do is check the camera for the last 24 hours. Ava questions him going through all that trouble over a stuffed bear. Rafe argues that it could’ve been someone sending a message to Nicole. Ava asks what he’s going to do if it was Sami. Rafe says he won’t do anything because Sami left town this morning. Ava mocks the idea of Sami being a stuffed bear killer. Rafe calls cutting up the bear juvenile and petty even for Sami. Ava argues that Nicole slept with Sami’s husband. Rafe points out they were estranged. Ava remarks that Nicole is lucky that Sami didn’t do much worse.

Rex informs Xander that he is going back to Chicago. Xander thanks him for taking the time to talk to him and says it wasn’t that bad. Rex jokes that beer makes him easier to take. Xander asks Rex to let him know if he hears from Sarah. Rex agrees and asks Xander to do the same, which he agrees to. Rex hopes Xander finds Sarah as he deserves some answers. Rex then heads upstairs at the Pub while Xander exits.

Gwen tells Jack that she knows she was awful to Abigail which Jack agrees with. Gwen says it’s just that she’s never loved anyone the way she loves Xander and no one has ever had her back the way that he does. Gwen says that she’s so scared of losing him. Jack asks why that is when they have a really good thing going. Gwen brings up how much Xander loved Sarah and worries about her coming back in to the picture. Jack reminds her that Sarah dumped Xander on the day of their wedding because she said she realized she could never forgive Xander for switching her baby with Kristen’s. Jack tells Gwen that even if Sarah came back, that’s not a story you can just forget. Jack suggests Gwen just calm down and believe that everything will work out just fine. Jack assures that she has nothing to worry about.

Kate questions Chad thinking that Lucas had Sami kidnapped. Chad confirms that Lucas basically admitted it. Kate asks why. Chad says it was to keep Sami away from EJ and that love makes you do crazy stuff. Kate refuses to believe it. Chad knows it’s hard, especially after what happened with Philip. Kate asks what he means. Chad states that one of her sons went missing and the other kidnapped his ex-wife so it must be hard for her. Kate confirms that it is because this means she failed two sons. Chad assures Kate that he’s not going to tell anyone so the truth never has to come out. Kate responds that maybe it should.

Nicole thanks EJ for his apology but as far as forgiving him, that will be a hard no. EJ knows he made a mistake. Nicole complains that he humiliated her in front of Sami and let her gloat that he chose her again. EJ claims everything was just happening fast. Nicole brings up that Sami said EJ ripped up the divorce papers before he was arrested, which he admits. Nicole reminds EJ how she came to see him in jail on Christmas Day. Nicole questions EJ not bothering to tell her that he wasn’t going to get a divorce. EJ claims he was focused on proving his innocence. Nicole complains that he couldn’t stop thinking about himself long enough to tell her that he was going to work it out with his wife. EJ realizes now that was wrong of him. Nicole says she knows EJ kept his mouth shut about Sami just in case she dumped him. Nicole points out that she did and now EJ has come crawling back to her, but she will not be his consolation prize.

Jack reminds Gwen that Xander found Sarah in bed with Rex on their wedding day, so he questions why Xander would want Sarah back now when he cares deeply for Gwen. Jack brings up Xander covering for Gwen with the whole drug running. Gwen feels he did that for Jack. Jack argues that Xander was willing to go to prison for Gwen and he wouldn’t do that for a woman he doesn’t care about. Jack knows how much Xander loves Gwen and declares that nothing in the world is going to change that.

Rafe returns to Ava in the town square with an “I’m Sorry” cake. Ava points out that he already apologized. Rafe just wants her to know that he’s really sorry for jumping all over her and making her feel like he didn’t trust her. Ava remarks that most people don’t trust her so she’s used to it. Rafe says someone breaking in to destroy Nicole’s personal property just made him uneasy. Ava suggests he not worry about Nicole much as she is one woman who knows how to take care of herself.

EJ admits he should’ve told Nicole that he was thinking about reconciling with Sami as it was disrespectful and dishonest. Nicole calls it cowardly as well. EJ calls the whole thing a major lapse in judgment and says he never should’ve torn up the divorce papers or even entertained the thought of getting back together. EJ points out that it did make him realize that Nicole is the one he truly wants. Nicole argues that’s because Sami dumped him for Lucas. EJ insists that he wants Nicole but she yells at him to stop. Nicole says EJ wants her now but ultimately, he will choose Sami. Nicole compares it to Eric choosing God and Rafe choosing Ava. Nicole is sick and tired of men wanting it both ways and asks when someone is going to put her first. Nicole tells EJ to leave. EJ thinks they should talk about it but Nicole doesn’t want to. Nicole threatens to call security but EJ asks her not to. Nicole tells EJ he can stay then and she will leave as she then walks out of the office.

Kate tells Chad that she doesn’t want to betray Lucas, but questions framing EJ when he didn’t do this. Chad argues that Lucas finally has everything he wanted for so long so if Kate takes that away from him, he will never ever forgive her and she’ll probably be sending him to prison or Bayview. Chad asks if she would really do that to her own son. Kate says of course not and questions if they are going to send EJ to prison for something he didn’t do since he doesn’t deserve that. Chad admits that EJ may not have kidnapped Sami but he’s not some noble, wonderful guy. Chad argues that EJ has caused a lot of pain to a lot of people. Chad says Lucas may have gone off the rails with this kidnapping but he did it for love. Chad calls Lucas a loving father and devoted son. Chad asks Kate to keep what he told her a secret.

Rafe asks if they can get past this and if Ava can forgive him for acting like a jerk. Ava imagines shoving the cake back in Rafe’s face. Rafe asks Ava again if she forgives him. Ava thinks back to seeing Rafe and Nicole kissing. Ava then tells Rafe that she does forgive him and hugs him. Nicole then appears in the town square and sees them.

Jennifer comes back in and asks if everything is okay. Gwen says she just wanted to say she’s sorry for how she treated Abigail as she knows today has been a very difficult day for the three of them and she made it harder. Jack asks if Gwen needs anything and offers to get off the plane to Boston. Gwen says he doesn’t need to do that and promises to stay out of Abigail’s way. Jack tells Gwen to call if she needs anything and adds that she can call him dad. Gwen thanks him and calls him dad as they hug. Jack reminds Gwen that Sarah chose to leave Xander on her own free will and he knows that.

Xander goes to the DiMera Mansion to see Abigail. Xander mentions Maggie saying that Abigail is going to look in to what happened to Sarah. Xander says he wants to help. Abigail says she was going to call him about everything he remembers from the day Sarah left town. Xander mentions that he was just talking to Rex, who was probably the last person to see her. Abigail asks Xander to tell her everything he knows.

Kate tells Chad that if she keeps Lucas’s secret and Roman finds out that she let Sami leave town with her kidnapper, Roman will never forgive her. Chad argues that Lucas would never hurt Sami as he’s crazy about her. Chad questions Kate choosing her own happiness over her son’s. Kate calls that not fair and says she’s thinking of Lucas too. Kate says Lucas kidnapped Sami and held her prisoner and that’s not like him, so he might need professional help. Chad feels Lucas didn’t seem unbalanced at all. Chad argues that Sami was in a sick relationship with EJ, so he thinks Lucas did what it took to break EJ’s hold on Sami because he loves her so much. Chad says if Roman finds out, just tell him that. Chad insists that the best thing she can do for Lucas is to pretend they never had this conversation. Kate doesn’t think she can keep quiet about this. EJ then walks in and questions keeping quiet about what. EJ says he’d be very interested to know.

Nicole goes to work at Basic Black and is shocked to find her and Rafe’s teddy bear Duke with it’s head cut off.

Ava pours coffee at home and wonders aloud how long Rafe and Nicole have been making a fool out of her. Rafe then enters the room.

Jack and Jennifer sit at home together. Jennifer notes that Jack isn’t talking much and asks if he’s having second thoughts. Jack responds that he’s been thinking and has decided that their baby will be in goods with their other baby. Jennifer agrees and hugs him.

Abigail goes to the Kiriakis Mansion and wishes Maggie a Happy New Year. Maggie asks what she wanted to talk to her about since she sounded pretty urgent on the phone. Abigail says she just wanted to let her know about a story they are working on that’s a little sensitive as it’s about Philip’s disappearance since the paper decided to focus on that, so she wanted to give Maggie and Victor a heads up. Maggie is glad she told her. Abigail adds that if they do find anything out that could upset Victor, she will let Maggie know so that he doesn’t have to read about it in the paper. Maggie then asks Abigail to help her find Sarah while she’s out looking for Philip.

Gwen has a nightmare about Xander being furious with her for not telling him where Sarah was and then leaving her over it. Gwen then wakes up in a panic in bed with Xander. She hugs him and is relieved that he’s still there. Xander questions her saying not to leave her in her dream.

Rafe asks Ava if everything is okay as she seemed upset when he came in. Ava mentions being out of espresso. Rafe offers to go get more at the store but Ava reminds him that it’s a holiday. Rafe feels the look on her face seemed more intense, so he asks if she’s sure it’s not something else. Ava says she just overreacts to most things. Ava asks Rafe what they are going to do today and if they are going to do something with Gabi and Jake. Rafe questions her volunteering to do something with Gabi. Ava says it’s the holidays so they are supposed to spend time with family. Ava suggests they could invite over Tripp and Allie with Henry or Nicole with Holly. Rafe says he actually hoped they could just spend time together alone for once. Ava decides that sounds wonderful. Rafe then gets a call from Nicole. Rafe says he’ll call her back later but Ava says he should get it since it’s a holiday and she wouldn’t call if it wasn’t important. Rafe then answers the call. Nicole says she needs him to come to Basic Black as it’s an emergency. Rafe says he will be right there and hangs up. Rafe informs Ava that Nicole said it’s an emergency so Ava says he better go. Rafe asks if she’s sure. Ava says they can catch up later, so Rafe kisses her goodbye and exits. Ava finishes her coffee and then smashes her mug against the wall.

Maggie informs Abigail that Xander told her that Rex and Sarah left Salem, but they haven’t been together since they left, and now her phone is out of service. Abigail asks if she’s gone to the police. Maggie confirms that she went to Shawn, but he said that since Sarah left on her own free will and she has contacted her, it’d be hard to classify her as a missing person. Abigail imagines the police is pretty swamped which Maggie says is why she is turning to her. Maggie says she’s beyond worried and frustrated that something is very wrong so she asks Abigail and the paper to help find Sarah. Abigail agrees to do everything she can. Maggie asks if there’s any way she can help in the search. Abigail asks Maggie when she last actually heard from Sarah.

Gwen tells Xander that she was dreaming of when she was little but then she wakes up next to him and knows that’s all in the past and she won’t be alone again as they kiss. Xander then informs her that he has to go see Steve, because he’s going to hire him to find Sarah.

Steve packs his bag at home and tells Kayla that he’s sorry as this is not the way he wanted to start the New Year. Kayla asks if he can’t put it off for a couple days. Steve is afraid that Kristen might already have too much of a head start. Kayla tells him that it’s been hammered home that there is nothing Kristen wouldn’t stoop to, but she thinks in a sick weird way, she really loves Brady and he is Rachel’s father so she has a hard time thinking that Kristen would frame Brady for Philip’s murder. Steve suggests Kristen could have some twisted reason they are not aware of. Steve brings up how Stefano always went on about chess and says maybe Kristen is making some kind of chess move. Jack and Jennifer then show up at the door and greet them, wishing a Happy New Year. Jennifer hopes they weren’t too early but Steve says they are just in time as he was leaving on a work trip. Jack calls that a coincidence as he announces that they are leaving Salem too.

Rafe goes to Basic Black and tells Nicole this better be good as he asks what happened. Nicole then shows him what happened to Duke, shocking Rafe.

Ava cleans up the mug she smashed and mocks Nicole and Rafe. Ava bets they are on the conference table as they speak. Gwen then shows up at the door and questions who Ava was talking to. Ava asks what she’s doing here as they can’t be seen together. Gwen responds that she had to come as Ava is the only one who can help her.

Maggie shows Abigail the last text she got from Sarah and says she’s left messages since but got nothing in return. Maggie doesn’t understand why Sarah told her that she left town with Rex if she didn’t. Maggie notes that Sarah has always told her almost everything as they are very close. Abigail decides she will try to get Sarah’s phone records to see who else she has been in contact with. Maggie asks if she will also still keep looking for Philip because she’s also terribly worried about Victor. Abigail says it’s so Maggie to be worried about Victor too. Maggie says that Victor just isn’t as strong as she is. Abigail doesn’t think many people are as she hugs her. Abigail hopes she has a little bit of Maggie’s strength as she’s going to need it because she’s running the whole paper now. Maggie encourages that she will do a great job but asks what about Jack. Abigail informs Maggie that Jack and Jennifer have other plans.

Jennifer informs Kayla about how she was reading this Boston newspaper while she was there working on Laura’s estate and the paper is going under if they don’t take it over. Jennifer talks about how they are going to keep it all the same but it’s going to be complicated for sure. Jack calls it a challenge and figured they’d let Abigail take over the Spectator while they have a new mission. Kayla questions if they are moving then. Jennifer says it’s not permanent as they are going to come right back as soon as they get the paper going. Kayla says they will all miss them so much, but she is impressed by what they are doing. Xander then shows up at the door. Jack is surprised and asks how Xander knew he was there. Xander reveals he wasn’t looking for Jack as he needs to talk to Steve.

Maggie tells Abigail that she will miss Jack and Jennifer but she knows the paper is in good hands. Maggie adds that she understands if Abigail can’t look for Sarah but Abigail assures that she will make time. Abigail says she will also talk to Xander. Maggie mentions that Xander came to her because he’s very worried about Sarah, but he has moved on with someone else. Abigail knows that he’s with Gwen. Maggie notes that he seems pretty serious about her. Abigail says if that’s true, God help him.

Xander apologizes for interrupting but asks if he can talk to Steve alone for a minute. Jennifer says they were just heading out as they are going to meet Abigail at the house before going to the airport. Xander questions them going on a trip. Jack informs him that they bought a newspaper in Boston and they will be there for awhile. Xander realizes Gwen doesn’t know Jack is leaving town and asks if he wants him to tell her for him. Jack says no. Xander asks if this is just have a nice life. Jack hopes things work out for him. Jennifer says that Gwen hasn’t made it easy for Jack to have a relationship with her, so he’s not the villain here. Xander tells Jack that he will never forget that he was his mate when he really needed one. Xander and Jack hug. Jennifer jokes that she’s going to start crying as she hugs Steve and Kayla goodbye. Jack and Jennifer then exit. Xander apologizes to Steve and says it’s bad timing so he’ll come back. Steve points out that that he’s here already, so he wants to know what the hell he wants. Xander responds that he wants Steve to help him find Sarah.

Gwen tells Ava that she wasn’t thinking and asks if anyone is home. Ava assures her that Rafe’s bitch of a sister isn’t around and Rafe has been summoned by his sidepiece which Gwen questions. Ava repeats that they are probably on the conference table as they speak. Gwen questions Rafe having an affair. Ava confirms that he is and says today she has provided him with his cover story, because Nicole called him about the dead body she left in her office..

Rafe sees what happened to Duke and calls it sick, asking who the hell would do this. Nicole responds that they both know exactly who did this. Nicole says it’s obviously Sami and that it reeks of her because it’s vindictive and vicious. Nicole says it checks all the boxes. Rafe remains unsure but Nicole thinks Sami is paying her back for breaking up her marriage to EJ. Rafe thinks she should be grateful for that. Nicole insists that it was Sami and asks who else hates her this much.

Ava informs Gwen that she decapitated a stuffed animal and claims she didn’t have a choice. Ava asks Gwen again what the hell she is doing here. Gwen tells her that Xander is not going to give up until he finds Sarah. Ava tells her to calm down and says Kristen is really good at making people disappear, so where ever she has Sarah, she’s going to stay there. Ava adds that if it wasn’t for them, Kristen would be in prison now so she won’t double cross them. Gwen argues that she helped Kristen escape because if she didn’t, Kristen would tell Xander where Sarah is. Ava insists that no one is going to find Sarah so she doesn’t need to worry. Gwen then informs Ava that Xander wants to hire Steve to find her. Ava admits that Steve is good, so she does have to worry.

Kayla tells Xander that she thought Sarah was working with Rex at Doctors Without Borders. Xander explains that Rex was alone and had no idea that everyone here thought Sarah was with him. Kayla asks if Maggie knows about this. Xander confirms that he told her and they both just want to know if Sarah is alright. Steve suggests it’s possible that Sarah just decided to move on from their relationship. Xander questions it being that sudden on their wedding day. Xander says he may have talked himself in to thinking that’s what happened, but now that he knows she’s not with Rex, he thinks something is very wrong. Steve is sorry that Xander and Maggie are so worried because he’s do anything for Maggie, but he’s on another case and on his way out of town. Steve suggests talking to his partner. Kayla brings up everything John went through with Marlena. Xander decides he will ask anyway because he has to know what happened to Sarah.

Maggie informs Abigail that she called Melissa, Nathan, and Melanie and no one has heard from Sarah so they are all worried. Abigail promises that they will find her. Abigail says she has to go since Jack and Jennifer are leaving for the airport. Abigail tells Maggie that she’ll be in touch. Maggie sends her love to Jack and Jennifer. Maggie says she loves her and wishes a Happy New Year as Abigail then exits. Maggie picks up an old photo album and prays for Mickey to bring their girl back home.

Jack and Jennifer go home. Jennifer is glad that Jack had a chance to talk to Xander and clear the air before they leave. Jennifer remarks that Xander’s just a friend, not family, while Gwen is his daughter so he has to say goodbye to her. Jack can’t believe Jennifer is worried about Gwen. Jennifer clarifies that she’s worried about him. Jennifer tells Jack not to leave like this as it will tear him up inside. Jack brings up what Gwen did to Jennifer and Abigail. Jennifer repeats that Gwen is his child so she demands that he call her.

Xander calls John, but is told that John is not taking any cases until he’s sure that Marlena is alright. Xander guesses he will have to find Sarah by himself.

Ava tells Gwen that she can see why she’s worried because if anyone can find Sarah, it is Steve. Ava adds that it could work out for her because if Steve finds Sarah without any involvement from Kristen then no one will know that Gwen knew anything about what happened. Gwen complains that Xander will still ride off in to the sunset with Sarah, so either way she still loses him. Ava argues that Xander could choose her. Gwen calls that very unlikely. Ava asks why she’s selling herself short and what’s so special about Sarah. Gwen says Sarah has brains and class and she’s a good person unlike her. Ava argues that if Xander can’t see what he’s got then to hell with him. Gwen asks if they are still talking about Xander or Rafe. Ava says it’s both of them. Gwen gets a text from Jack, saying he wants to see her so she has to go. Gwen thanks Ava for listening and apologizes about Rafe. Gwen then exits. Ava remarks that she’s not as sorry as Rafe’s going to be.

Rafe finishes a call with Allie and informs Nicole that Sami left town with Lucas. Nicole argues that Sami could have done this before she left. Rafe doesn’t think so but agrees to check it out. Nicole thanks Rafe for coming. Rafe asks if that’s it. Nicole asks what else there is since Rafe is on the case now and she came here to work. Rafe points out that Nicole is upset. Nicole adds that it’s a holiday so he should be with Ava. Rafe says he will keep her posted and wishes Nicole a Happy New Year as he then exits the office. Nicole picks up Duke’s head and comments that the New Year is off to a hell of a start.

Steve tells Kayla that he has to get going. Kayla then comes out with her bag packed and announces she’s going with him. Steve says no but Kayla argues that John can’t be his backup, so she will be. Steve declares that he’s going to find Kristen and he doesn’t want her anywhere near her. Kayla doesn’t want him near her either but that’s not going to stop him. Steve argues that it’s his job. Kayla points out that she’s helped him out before and saved him on several occasions. Kayla says they could debate or he could just concede that she’s right and they can happily go on the trip. Steve decides to ask her to come with him which she accepts.

Xander goes to the Kiriakis Mansion and tells Maggie that he wishes he had better news but Steve has another job and John won’t leave Marlena. Maggie says that’s too bad but she did find someone to help. Maggie informs him that Abigail is going to look in to it. Xander points out that Abigail is a reporter, not a private investigator. Maggie encourages that Abigail is great and tenacious just like Jack and Jennifer. Xander mentions just seeing Jack and Jennifer and that they are leaving town. Maggie says that Abigail told her. Maggie asks how it was seeing Jack. Xander says it ended up good as they buried the hatchet. Xander adds that he tried to get Jack to talk to Gwen but it looks like he’ll have to be the one to tell Gwen that Jack is gone.

Gwen goes to the Horton house to see Jack. Jennifer decides to leave them alone and exits. Gwen tells Jack that she got his text. Jack thanks her for coming. Gwen asks what he wants. Jack says he wanted to tell her that he loves her. Gwen starts to cry and says that’s not what she expected. Gwen argues that it can’t be true after what she’s done. Jack states that Gwen is his kid, so he can get mad at her or be disgusted by what she did, but he cannot stop loving her. Jack admits he tried, but he can’t. Jack repeats that Gwen is his kid as he then embraces her.

Rafe walks through the town square. He stops and thinks back to kissing Nicole. Rafe questions what he’s doing when he’s with Ava.

Nicole remains at Basic Black and thinks back to having sex with Rafe. Nicole tells herself to focus.

Ava thinks back to cutting Duke’s head off and declares that is the least those two deserve.

Recap written by Christine

Sally entered Adam’s darkened and empty office with a suitcase.

At the penthouse, Chelsea said she didn’t understand how she and Adam lost the beautiful relationship they had. He didn’t think it was beneficial for either of them to revisit their breakup. He owned his mistakes and admitted he was toxic for her. She said that was noble of him, but they both knew her actions were what broke them. “I know there is still something between us. Can you honestly tell me there is no chance we can recapture the love and connection we once had?,” she asked. He reminded her that they talked about this – they’d always share a connection, but they were in a different place, and he thought it was a great one. He said getting back together, even if they had lingering feelings between them, would be a mistake. “This can’t be the end of our story, Adam,” Chelsea insisted. He asked if this was really about rekindling their relationship or about proving to herself that she’d healed emotionally. She asked why it couldn’t be both. She was adamant that they owed it to themselves to see if it was possible to be together. She was so happy at Christmas, and she thought he felt the same way. He did enjoy Christmas, and he’d liked seeing Connor so happy. She said that their son was proof they could make something beautiful. He told her that wasn’t enough. She said when Connor looked at them, he saw love, and she wanted to be optimistic like their boy. She asked if they could go back to the time they believed in each other and nobody else did.

Adam said they couldn’t go back. Chelsea said that was fine, because she wanted to move forward with him. He said every time they reunited, they hurt each other. He thought they could’ve spared each other a lot of pain if they’d parted ways for good a long time ago. Last New Year’s Eve, he came home and found her unconscious on the floor, a result of a head injury that he was responsible for. She said she made it through, and now they could start over. He was glad she was in a good place, and he would help her at work and as a co-parent, bu that had to be enough, because if they tried for something romantic, they’d hurt each other and Connor. He got a text from Sally saying there was an office emergency, and he told Chelsea that he had to go, because something was up at work. She questioned who’d be at work at this time of the night, on New Year’s Eve. He did not say the text was from Sally. He was sorry tonight didn’t turn out how Chelsea hoped.

Abby was at Society acting as hostess. She showed Rey and Sharon to their table. Rey was surprised Abby was there. Abby wanted to see to her special guests before she went home. She left the table. Rey took Sharon’s hand, and they wished each other a happy anniversary. It was hard for her to believe it had been a year. It was a magical night for her. He agreed and said their love grew stronger by the day. She wanted to spend more time with him in 2022. They planned for a trip to Miami and somewhere in Europe. She was glad her kids were in a good place – Faith was better, Mariah and Tessa were starting a family, and they’d make great parents. Rey thought it was nice Noah was back. Sharon said Noah wasn’t ready to talk about London, but he seemed to be doing better. Rey thought it was good for Noah to be back around Sharon, Nick and everyone who cared about him. Sharon said Nick was struggling. Rey was sure Nick would figure it out, given that Sharon and the kids gave him strength. Sharon said Nick valued Rey’s friendship, and that’s why he was best man at their wedding. Rey said they were family, and they could get through anything. Sharon said Rey had a way of making her feel like things would be okay. Rey was optimistic for the new year.

At his home, Chance planned a special evening for Abby with strawberries and champagne. He looked at the baby monitor and hoped Dominic would sleep through the night. Abby came home and was impressed with all Chance did in the short time she was gone. She saw the Baby’s first Christmas ornament on the couch. He said he couldn’t just throw it in a box in the attic. It was her favorite. She remembered when he gave it to her, it had seemed like a distant dream, and now they had a new beginning with the baby. Later, they had dinner. Chance didn’t cook it, but he bought it and heated it in the oven, and Abby gave him credit for that. Abby was very effusive with her praise about what a good man Chance was, and it made him question whether she was compensating for something. She said she just wanted to have a good night with her amazing husband. He told her she could be honest with him. She admitted she was concerned about what was going on with him.

Abby saw how distressed Chance was earlier when he couldn’t get Dominic to stop crying. Chance was still down on himself about it, and Abby tried to assure him that it took time to learn how to soothe babies. She wanted to know how he was feeling. He felt blessed to have her and their family and friends, but sometimes he felt disconnected. She thought it was natural for it to take time for him to get used to things. She asked if he felt distant from her too. He said she was the one thing he was certain about. It killed him what he put her through. He was the one who wanted to rush into marriage, and he was the one who wanted the baby, then he left her here alone for months. She said he was here now, and they had everything he talked about. He aid he was here, but he wasn’t the man she and Dominic deserved. He felt like he was failing as a father. She told him not to say that, but he wanted to get this off his chest. He felt that there was a void where his paternal instinct should be, unlike with Devon, who knew exactly what Dominic needed. Chance was constantly asking himself what to do, and he wasn’t sure if it was because he missed Dominic’s birth or if it went further than that. “My father left us when I was little because he couldn’t handle being a dad,” Chance said. Abby was adamant that it wasn’t the same. She said Phillip was a teenager when Chance was born, and he wasn’t ready for a baby, and he had issues to deal with. Abby said Phillip came back and built a relationship with Chance. Chance said he was an adult when Phillip came back. Chance didn’t blame Phillip. Chance was trying to figure out what was missing. He loved Dominic, but he didn’t think he had what it took to be a good father. He was sorry their fun and sexy night turned into a therapy session. She was glad he opened up to her. He said it was almost midnight, and he killed the mood. She said all that mattered was that she ended 2021 with the man she loved. She vowed to help him overcome his fears so they could get through this together. They kissed.

Chelsea went to Society. Sharon talked with her and invited her to join them. Chelsea was hesitant. She didn’t want to intrude, but when Rey also extended the invitation, Chelsea accepted. They talked about how Connor and Noah played hockey. Chelsea mentioned that Connor kept getting fired up about different sports, and Sharon said Noah used to be the same way. Chelsea asked if Rey was like that as a boy, and he said that soccer was always his first love, but now it was second to Sharon. Rey and Sharon started getting lovey-dovey and Chelsea excused herself. She thanked Sharon for the kind invitation and headed out. Chelsea glanced back at the table and saw Sharon and Rey holding hands.

After Chelsea was gone, the waiter brought out dessert. It was something Sharon arranged ahead of time, but she didn’t want them to bring it out while Chelsea was here. Rey thought Sharon had been very compassionate and generous. Sharon said it was hard to be alone on the holidays. They lifted the lids on their plates, and it was slices of their wedding cake. It was good luck to eat a piece on your first anniversary, so she had it frozen. They fed each other a piece, and it tasted like the freezer, but he liked the tradition. The favorite part of his wedding day wasn’t the cake. He said he’d show her what it was, and he asked her to dance with him. She did, and they shared a New Year’s kiss.

Adam went to his office. Sally had put up decorations for every holiday except New Year’s. She also had several Hitchcock movies, and all of them starred Cary Grant. Adam caught the pattern, and Sally said Cary Grant was sublime. He chose North by Northwest. He was impressed by the measures she took to ensure this wasn’t a date. He was also kind of grateful she’d interrupted what he was doing and summoned him to the office. She felt that this was the right venue, since her apartment wasn’t the right choice for a non-date, and they couldn’t go to the ranch because of Victor and Nikki.

Sally paused the video because she wanted to refill her drink and talk about the fashion in the movie. They were sitting close to each other on the couch, and he didn’t understand why. She said it was because they were watching it on her laptop. She offered to set it up on the conference room screen if he was uncomfortable. He said this was fine. Chelsea walked up and saw Adam and Sally in what looked like a romantic moment. Her mouth fell open, and she left without being noticed. When it was New Year’s day, Sally and Adam looked deep into each other’s eyes, but they both sipped their drink instead of kissing.

Chelsea rushed home, and she was upset. She poured herself a drink.

Devon and Amanda were at The Grand Phoenix for New Year’s Eve. He wanted to put aside everything else and spend the night focused on themselves. The party was in the ballroom, and he said they’d dance, and he’d show her how much he loved her. They kissed. Later, after dancing, they went to the lounge because her new shoes were hurting her. She could tell something was on his mind, and she pulled the information out of him, even though he didn’t want to take away from the moment. He couldn’t help but wonder how Abby and Chance were spending New Year’s Eve with Dominic.

Amanda didn’t want Devon to feel bad for thinking about Dominic. He was thinking about it because he hadn’t gotten a response from Abby and Chance, but he thought he needed to let it go. He said he shouldn’t be worried about something he couldn’t control tonight, or the fact that him wanting more time with Dominic put Abby on edge. Amanda loved that he cared so much about Dominic, and that was one of the reasons she loved him. He appreciated her support, and he knew not everyone else would be. When she saw him with Dom, it reminded her of her own father, and the way he never stopped searching for her and wanting to be her dad. Sometimes she felt like this got a little too personal for her. He thought her experienAdam went to his office. Sally had put up decorations for every holiday except New Year’s. ce gave her amazing experience when it came to him and Dominic. She said Dominic’s situation wasn’t like hers – he was loved and cherished, but every child deserved all the love in the world. “You are a better father than I have ever known, so I want to help you on this journey,” Amanda said. Devon said he wasn’t the father, but Amanda disagreed. She said he had been Dominic’s father from the day he was born. Amanda felt that children deserved their father’s love, which meant Chance’s and Devon’s.

Devon wanted to go home for a private celebration. At the penthouse, Amanda kicked off her shoes, and danced barefoot with Devon. He told her she was brilliant, beautiful and strong. She kissed him they began to disrobe. When they saw that it was time, they shared a deep New Year’s kiss.

Recap written by Christine

At her office, Victoria told Ashland she was worried that Billy was waffling on the plan, because he wasn’t answering any of her messages. Ashland thought it was always risky to rely on Billy something so important, but Victoria didn’t think Billy was a problem yet. Ashland said there were more powerful ways to undermine Adam and force Newman Media to sell. He thought Billy was unpredictable, but she wasn’t ready to cut him loose just yet. She relished the idea of Adam realizing Newman/Locke took over Newman Media. Ashland wondered why Victoria was going after Adam, since they hadn’t had any huge issues lately. She said this was just business, and it had nothing to do with sibling rivalry. It seemed to Ashland that Lily was trying to protect Billy.

Victoria said she had no desire to control Billy. She added that it was Billy’s demand to be put in charge of Newman Media. Ashland said there was no denying that this would put Billy back in Victoria’s orbit. Victoria was sure that wasn’t Billy’s motive. Victoria said she had no intention of putting Billy in charge. She called Billy a useful tool with a plan that was already in motion. Ashland thought this plan was more likely to fail than succeed. Victoria knew her working with Billy was a sore point for Ashland, but she said he could trust her. Ashland wasn’t going to tell Victoria what to do, but he thought she was making a foolish move that he didn’t understand.

At their place, Billy tried to get Lily not to quit the plan. She didn’t want to be part of it now that Victoria had taken over. Lily thought that Billy was worried he couldn’t pull this off without her. That wasn’t how he felt; he just wanted to work together, because that’s when they were strongest. Lily agreed that they were strongest together, but not when Victoria was in the mix. Lily felt that the stakes had changed, but Billy said this was still about getting back at Victor and Adam. Lily countered that the original goal was about Billy repairing his reputation, not building Victoria’s empire. He said if he got his hands on Adam’s company, he could prove he was capable of running a business. Lily pointed out that there was no way to know Victoria would uphold her end of the bargain, and if she did, that would mean Billy was working for Victoria instead of with Lily. Lily thought Billy and Victoria were falling back into their old patterns, and she wanted no part of it. She ended the debate by leaving the house.

Moses and Faith were at Crimson Lights, and he was wearing the sweater she got him for Christmas. He apologized about his gift for her, because it wasn’t romantic. Nate got a book for Elena, and Moses had followed his cousin’s lead and done the same for Faith. Faith said she loved the book. Adam arrived and said hi. Every time Moses saw Adam, he thought of Adam saving Faith’s life. Adam continued on to the counter. Moses was embarrassed about the lame thing he said, but Faith thought that it was sweet. Faith said the situation with Adam was weird, he was either a great guy who did horrible things, or a horrible guy who did good things. Moses was just glad, for Faith’s sake, that Adam did something good to her. Adam glanced back over at the teens.

Elena arrived, and Moses went over and talked to her. He returned to the table and said he’d be back later. Faith asked if Moses was leaving with Elena. He said no, but he and Elena walked out together, and Faith saw it. Noah arrived, and Faith told him what was going on. She didn’t understand why Moses lied. She knew their relationship was solid, she and Moses liked all the same things, and he made everything better, but she was still worried. “People hold back the truth. I mean, think about our parents,” Faith said. Noah told Faith that she had to be strong enough to roll with the punches, and when things fell apart, you had to suck it up. Faith started to think Moses wasn’t coming back. Noah said to just text him instead of jumping to conclusions. Just then, Moses and Elena returned. She went to the patio, and Moses came inside. Noah joined Elena. Moses had another gift for Faith. Elena and Noah smiled as they watched from the patio. The gift was a charm bracelet with chess pieces, a reminder of the game they played at the hospital. She loved it, but she wondered if Elena picked it out. He said it was all his idea, but he needed Elena’s help finding a jewelry store.

Elena and Noah thought the teens were adorable. Elena said she and Noah met at one romantic event – the Tuscan wedding, and now they were witnessing another. Noah wouldn’t go that far – Moses and Faith were cute, but they were just kids. Elena didn’t think they should knock young love – it was just as important even if it didn’t last forever. Noah said sometimes adults couldn’t make it work either.

Billy went to the dive bar, and the objections to his plan from Lily and Jack echoed in his head. Sally showed up in her blonde disguise. Billy told her that the jig was up. Sally pretended to be someone else, so Billy pulled the hat off Sally’s head and told her that she was embarrassing herself. He said to get up because they were going to see her boss.

Billy and Sally went to Adam’s office. Adam said he didn’t have time for this. “Save it Adam. You’re not a good enough actor to pretend you don’t want to hear what I have to say. Especially after all the work you went through to get 00-nothing to spy on me,” Billy said. Adam pretended Billy was just being paranoid. Billy knew that this all started when Sally saw him having a drink in the middle of the day at Society. Sally said she’d been concerned. Billy asked if she was so concerned that she recorded him talking to Victoria about the kids going to boarding school and his fight with Lily and gambling at the Empty Glass. Adam was surprised Billy remembered those moments, given how drunk he was. Billy revealed that he didn’t have any drinks. Adam scoffed. Billy pulled out receipts from the bar and threw them at Adam. It proved he only bought apple juice. He also had a recording from his friends at the Empty Glass when he said he said he wasn’t gambling tonight, but he’d buy them a round of drinks. Billy said he never went on a bender, and Adam had only witnessed what he’d wanted to witness. Adam asked Sally to leave. Sally said she was genuinely glad Billy was okay, and she left.

Adam asked what the point of the supposed grand charade was. He didn’t understand why Billy was gloating about publicly humiliating himself. Billy said that Adam had been played, and he was so desperate and stupid that he took the bait. Billy revealed that he’d planned to sue Newman Media when they inevitably published an article about his downward spiral. Billy was going to offer Adam mercy if he’d come clean about what he, Victor and Ashland did to Billy and his company. Adam admitted it wasn’t a completely terrible plan, but he said Billy shot himself in the foot by revealing his hand too early. Billy changed his mind about the plan. Adam thought it was on brand for Billy to quit before he accomplished anything. Billy realized that Adam wasn’t worth anything to anyone. “You will always be the runner up Newman. The epic failure,” Billy said. Billy reasoned that he couldn’t bring Adam down further than Adam had already brought himself. Billy had a life to live. “Not much of one anymore,” Adam said. “I’m gonna get over what you did to me, and I will redeem myself on my own. And you will continue to sit there wallowing in the truth of who you really are. Knowing that I could’ve taken you down. And that’s gonna haunt you more than if I actually did,” Billy stated. He left.

Sally returned to apologize about getting busted by Billy. She had no idea Billy was just acting. Adam didn’t blame Sally, since the act was pretty convincing. Sally recalled Adam saying he took no satisfaction in seeing Billy relapse, so she assumed this was good news. Adam didn’t respond to that. He shifted gears and said he thought she’d said she was finished spying on Billy. She didn’t remember saying that specifically, because based on their last conversation, she thought Adam wanted plausible deniability. He said the spying was done, and she should stop trying to score points with the boss and focus on the job she was paid to do. She left.

Billy went to Victoria’s office. She was glad he finally decided to respond to her messages, but she said it didn’t require an in-person visit. Billy said that he did need to do this in person. He announced that he told Adam everything, minus Victoria’s involvement. It felt good to tell Adam that he was walking away. Victoria mockingly clapped and said Billy had a mini moment to gloat. Victoria thought that Billy abandoned the plan because he was mad Victoria commandeered his plot. He said she was giving herself too much credit. She stated that she knew him too well. She was sure this was just another one of his knee jerk reactions. “It’s symptomatic of a long history of inconsistencies, and I will tell you – this is why you will never have what it takes to play in the big leagues,” she stated. He sarcastically thanked her for supporting his emotional development.

Ashland returned, and Victoria said he was right – she was foolish to count on Billy. Ashland was relieved Billy pulled out of the plan. Victoria said that she realized it would be a mistake to put someone so unreliable in charge of Newman Media. Billy stated that the people who actually cared about him were worried about this plan, given his history, and they had his best interest at heart, and not the business’s. Billy said that Victoria’s priorities were selfish, and he was sorry to say that her father would be extremely proud. Later, Billy was gone. Ashland hoped Victoria didn’t let Billy’s words get to her. She said she refused to waste more time on Billy. She wanted to find another way to get Newman Media. Ashland said they’d have to contend with Victor and Adam. Victoria thought she had a way to get Victor on their side.

Billy went home and told Lily everything. He said he felt like a massive weight had been lifted off his shoulders. She was proud of him. He gave her the lion’s share of the credit. He was so grateful she always had the courage to tell him the truth, even when he didn’t want to hear it, and the patience to hope it’d sink in. he loved her so much and he was so happy she was in his life. She loved him too. She knew it was a huge step for him and their relationship, and she wasn’t worried. She knew he’d find a new career path. He wanted to work with her at Chancellor and be there to support her as her wingman. She kissed him.

Devon and Amanda were at home. He turned down her offer to make him breakfast. She’d noticed that he slipped out of bed last night and didn’t return, and she was concerned that he wasn’t eating or sleeping because of Dominic. He appreciated her concern, but he said it wasn’t necessary. He helped her into her coat, but she said she could have Imani cover all the new client meetings and stay here with him. He didn’t want her to miss out on meeting her first clients at her new law firm. He wished her good luck, and she left. Amanda ran into Lily in the hallway, and they said hi as they parted ways.

Lily brought pastries, and she was there to check on Devon. Nate told her Devon was thinking of asking about revisiting the custody agreement. Devon said he already asked, and they shot him down. Devon had been told he could see Dominic whenever he wanted, just on Abby and Chance’s terms. Lily asked what more Devon wanted. Devon wanted more than occasional visits, and he was worried about Dom’s well being. Devon said Chance needed time to heal, and it was taking away from his ability to parent. Lily felt for everyone involved. Devon didn’t blame Chance, but he felt the need to protect Dominic from the emotional turmoil. He didn’t know how to show Abby that he was trying to do what was best for Dominic and what was fair to Devon. He thought Lily might feel differently because Mackenzie carried the twins. Lily actually thought Devon had the right to be a protective presence in Dom’s life.

At their home, Abby found Chance reading on his tablet, and she thought he was reading about a case, but he was actually reading some parenting articles. He acknowledged that he’d gotten excited about a case yesterday, and he guessed that annoyed her. Abby wasn’t annoyed, just disheartened by it. Chance was sorry; he just felt a rush of adrenaline after he talked about the case. After he came down off the high, he recalled that Abby wasn’t crazy about the idea of him returning to the force. He decided to talk to the chief about extending his leave indefinitely. She was relieved, but she didn’t want him to feel like she was pressuring him into it.

Chance said he made this decision all on his own, but Abby did play a big part. He heard what she said the other day, and he wanted to focus all his energy on her and Dom. He felt healthy enough to go back to work, but the pull toward the force would only emotionally take him further from her and Dom, and he didn’t want that. Abby wanted to make sure that this was what Chance wanted. He was certain, and he said with her by his side, he could conquer fatherhood. She called him strong and brave. She didn’t have all the answers to parenting, and they’d struggle, but they were in it together, and that was all that mattered. They hugged. Abby and Chance took Dominic to Society. She praised him for getting Dominic out of his car seat without making the baby whine, which was something she still struggled to do. She went to the back. Devon arrived and saw Chance playing with Dominic and making him laugh. Devon left without being noticed.

Amanda dropped by the house to pick something up. Devon said he saw Chance and Dominic, and he’d made up his mind. He wanted to pursue legal rights to be with his son. Meanwhile, Chance and Abby were at the restaurant marveling at the baby and unaware of what was to come.

Recap written by Christine

Elena and Nate were online rug shopping at Society when Imani approached to say hello. Elena was cool toward Imani. Imani was unfazed and immediately began complimenting Nate’s appearance. Nate thanked her. Elena made it a point to mention that she and Nate moved in together. That put a damper on Imani’s good mood. She adopted a strained smile as she congratulated the couple. Nate said he and Elena were very happy. “I know billable hours are important to lawyers so we wouldn’t want to get in the way of your work,” Elena said. Imani saw her takeout order was ready. She mentioned again that Nate’s shirt looked good on him, then she left the table. Nate said Elena brought the claws out. “Just reminding her of our relationship status so she can stop flirting with you,” Elena said, raising her voice enough for Imani to hear her. Imani left. Nate thought Elena did a good deed.

Nate got a call from the hospital. One of the board members was upset Nate took Elena as his date to a hospital fundraiser. Roland, the board member, thought it was inappropriate for a department head to date a first year attending physician. Nate couldn’t believe Roland had the nerve to call him and criticize him about his personal life. It made Nate wonder if being chief of surgery was worth the hassle. Elena asked if Nate wanted to quit. He didn’t, but he also didn’t realize how much politics this job involved. Elena thought Nate was doing great things for the patients in that role. He knew, that was why he was determined to make it work. He also liked working with her, even though it made some peons uncomfortable.

Amanda and Phyllis were together at The Grand Phoenix. Amanda was in the middle of telling Phyllis how great things were going at her new law firm when a courier came up and served Phyllis. Amanda looked through the paperwork. Someone was suing Phyllis for fraud and mental distress because they didn’t enjoy their Escape Club experience. Phyllis looked over the paper and remembered the girl and said she was a freak. The woman was still bitter over a bad break up, and she’d written a fictionalized account of the split so that she could get closure. She’d wanted people at the hotel to act out the script. Phyllis had to explain to this person that The Grand Phoenix employees weren’t actors. Amanda wanted to see the script. It was so crazy that Phyllis saved it. She emailed it to Amanda.

Phyllis and Amanda took turns reading the script, which was about a woman confronting her cheating boyfriend. At the end of the script, the ex was supposed to get hit by a bus. Amanda understood why Phyllis couldn’t provide that experience. Phyllis said she never promised this woman she’d hit her ex with a bus. Amanda noted that people got vengeful after breakups. Phyllis could relate – she’d been so filled with rage and jealousy that she had to hit someone with her car. “You mean fantasize about it,” Amanda assumed. “Sure,” Phyllis responded. Phyllis shifted gears and said she stood Jack up on Christmas Eve, and now he was out of town, and they weren’t talking. She felt like she relied on him too much. Amanda said it was okay to rely on a friend, especially when they relied on you. Phyllis knew she was selfish though, and she’d taken more from him than she’d given to him. Amanda thought it was good that Phyllis was trying to be a better friend. Phyllis changed the subject to the lawsuit. Amanda promised to take care of it, but Phyllis wanted to handle it in her own way outside the legal system. Amanda was apprehensive until Phyllis said she was going to give Beck a free year of membership at the escape club. Amanda thought that was a good idea.

Phyllis called Becky and de-escalated things. Imani showed up and asked why Amanda didn’t tell her Nate and Elena were living together. Amanda didn’t think Imani needed to know. Imani said it could’ve saved her an awkward and disappointing conversation. Amanda introduced Imani and Phyllis and said Imani had been openly thirsting after Nate for awhile. Both ladies had heard a lot about each other, through Amanda. Imani said she’d heard Phyllis was a great friend and a bit of a hell raiser, which made Imani think they’d get along great. “Well, we just might,” Phyllis said, sounding uncertain. Once Phyllis was alone, she called Jack, and it went to voice mail. She said she just wanted to say hi. She hoped the call went to voice mail because he was busy and not because he declined her call.

Chelsea found Sally pacing around outside Adam’s office and asked why she was loitering. Sally explained that she just met with Adam. Chelsea tried to get Sally to go back to her own office, and Sally, in turn, tried to stop Chelsea from going into Adam’s office. Chelsea stated that this was about their son, but Sally warned Chelsea that it wasn’t a good time to talk to Adam. Chelsea went in anyway.

Adam was brusque, thinking it was Sally, but Chelsea yelled “It’s me.” He looked up at her and complained that nobody knocked anymore. Chelsea wanted to know what happened, and Adam said it was nothing, but Chelsea said to save that for someone who didn’t know him. He groused that Billy came in here acting like he won the lottery, even though everyone knew he was an utter failure and always would be. Chelsea thought Adam had everything going for him, so she didn’t understand why he couldn’t let this battle with Billy end.

Adam said there was no battle with him and Billy – in his warped way, Billy called a truce. Adam said Billy concocted a scheme that fell apart, so Billy failed once again. Chelsea wondered why Adam looked like he lost, and he said it was complicated. Chelsea thought Adam should celebrate his business success and forget about Billy. He declared that it was forgotten. Chelsea was here for help, because Connor was having trouble adjusting to selling the penthouse. Adam thought Connor was having trouble with the memories at the penthouse, just like Chelsea. Chelsea said he was until he truly understood they were leaving the house for good. Connor cried. Adam thought that was odd, since Connor rarely cried anymore. Chelsea said that was how badly it was affecting their son. Chelsea needed Adam to help her make this okay for Connor. He said he’d do anything he could.

Chelsea and Adam went to the ranch and talked with Connor. They tried to put a positive spin on the changes in Connor’s life. Connor didn’t want any more changes. He wanted the penthouse to remain Chelsea’s. Last Adam recalled, Connor was struggling with the memories there. Connor said they made new good memories, like when they were all together on Christmas, and they could do that again. Adam stated that he and Chelsea weren’t together anymore. Chelsea said she and Connor could be happy anywhere – they could have a yard, or they could move into a place with a game room. Connor wanted Chelsea to move to the ranch. Adam thought Connor was smart enough to know that couldn’t happen.

Connor just wanted to be a family again. Adam said he and Chelsea were friends, but they weren’t going to live together again. Connor said that if they wanted him to be happy, they should try living together again. Adam tried to explain that, while they wanted him to be happy, he was going to have to accept this change. Connor had an outburst and stomped to the other side of the room. Chelsea told him that they didn’t have to live in the same house to be a family. Connor just wanted them to spend time together. Chelsea promised they’d spend a lot of time together, but she still had to find a new place to live. She asked him to help, and he agreed. They hugged.

Sally met with Chloe at Society. Chloe said they had to re-evaulate what was going on with Sally and Chelsea. Sally contended that Chelsea felt threatened by her, personally and professionally. Sally thought that Chelsea was the one with the problem and that if anyone left, it should be Chelsea. Chloe said that Sally’s negative attitude was impacting the platform Chloe created. “it’s messing with my dreams which makes it my problem. So, you work for me, which makes it an even bigger problem for you. Do we understand each other?,” Chloe asked.

Sally didn’t think it was a big deal that she hung out with Adam on New Year’s Eve. Chloe said it was affecting their jobs, which meant it was an enormous deal. Sally said she didn’t force Adam to hang out with her, but Chloe said that wasn’t the point. Sally thought the problem was that Chelsea wouldn’t let Adam go, even though he wasn’t interested in her. Sally called Chelsea angry and vindictive. Chloe said Chelsea was her best friend, a spectacular designer, and Sally’s boss, so it was dumb for Sally to say all this about her. Chloe thought Sally and Chelsea were talented ambitious women, but they wouldn’t be able to work together if Sally continued on her current path. “So fix it,” Chloe ordered. Sally protested, and Chloe said it wasn’t a suggestion. Chloe left.

Sally went back to Adam’s office just as he and Chelsea were returning. Sally wanted Adam to look over some paperwork, but he said it wasn’t a good time. He went into the office. Chelsea said not to take it personally and that Adam’s main priority would always be his family. Sally said she understood. After talking with Chloe, Sally had to get something off her chest. Sally hoped she didn’t give Chelsea the impression that she was after Adam. Sally just saw Adam as a boss. All she wanted was to work with Chelsea. “For me,” Chelsea corrected. Sally also wanted to learn from Chelsea. Chelsea was happy to hear that, and she said she and Sally both wanted the fashion platform to be a success.

Billy and Lily were at home basking in the afterglow after celebrating him abandoning the plan to go after Newman Media. He said if this was his reward, he’d ditch his plans more often. She asked if he was sure he wanted to work with her at Chancellor. He told her people would kill to be her COO. He promised no one would be more devoted to her as he was. He couldn’t be more proud to help her take over the world. He thanked her for helping him see that it wasn’t a good idea to try and get to run Newman Media. Lily said Victoria was using Billy. Billy didn’t want to be anchored to the soul-sucking anger that fueled Adam’s existence. It felt good to tell Adam that he wasn’t worth it. Billy realized Adam had taken up too much valuable real estate in his life and mind. He deserved better, and he thought Lily deserved a better him. She said she couldn’t love him more or be more proud.

Billy and Lily put their clothes on, and he said he had to go make amends with his mother. Jill was in Chicago this week, and Billy was going to go apologize in person. Lily offered to go too, but he thought he needed to do this alone. Billy invited Traci over and let her know that he’d abandoned the plan. He said that he realized the plan wasn’t healthy for him, and he appreciated Traci and Lily for showing him the light. Traci was relieved, and she knew Jack would be too. Traci admitted she’d confronted Victoria about the plan. Billy tensed up about Traci interfering and asked if she didn’t think he could handle things on his own. Now that Billy had put an end to the plot, Traci realized he could handle things himself. Billy just wished Traci would stop treating him like a wayward child.

Traci knew Billy was as an adult, which was why she held him accountable for his actions. He asked if she ever felt the need to go to Victor and tell him to leave Jack alone. Traci didn’t, but she’d called Jack out on his behavior countless times, because that ridiculous feud did devastating things to their family. It made her sad and angry that he was holding Jack and Victor’s feud up as an excuse for his behavior. Lily said it was better for Billy to have someone who cared too much for him than too little. Billy apologized, and Traci started crying. She hoped he’d call Jack with this good news. She also suggested that he go back to Jabot, which would’ve made their father happy. He said he was going to work with Lily, and that made Traci very happy. She was proud of her brother, and she knew things would go just great for him. He said he loved her, and he’d see her soon. He went upstairs to pack. Traci asked Lily if Billy was doing as well as he said he was.

Lily assured Traci that Billy was fine. He was doing great until Victor and Adam cut him off at the knees, she said. Lily thought the plan was outrageous, but she supported it because she knew Billy needed to regain what he lost. Lily loved Billy, and she knew he needed someone to believe in him. Everything was going great until Victoria had to insert herself into it. Lily had worried Billy would revert to his destructive behavior, but he didn’t. Lily thought Traci could start to trust Billy and let go. Traci did trust him. She was grateful Lily was in Billy’s life and that she could protect him in a way he didn’t resent. Lily said she and Billy got each other, maybe because they were friends for so long before they got together. Traci looked at Lily and it made her think about what Colleen might be like at her age. Lily had been thinking a lot about Colleen too, lately. Lily and Traci reminisced about the time Colleen and Lily got tattoos and nose piercings, as teens. Lily said neither of them could’ve guessed Lily would become Chancellor CEO. Traci knew her daughter would be proud of her friend. Ever since Lily was little, Traci could tell that Lily was capable of great things. Traci thought Billy was fortunate to have Lily.

Later, Traci was gone, and Billy was all packed. She offered to go to Chicago again, but he knew she needed to stay and prepare for her new job. He promised he’d be back before her first day. They kissed and said their goodbyes, then he left for his flight.

Back at Newman Media, Billy’s insults rang in Adam’s head. He remembered Billy calling him worthless a runner up Newman. Adam grabbed his phone.

After Billy left, Lily got a text from Adam wishing her luck at Chancellor.

Recap written by Christine

Abby put Dominic down for a nap after he had playtime with Chance. Abby tried to assure Chance that it was natural to be unsure about parenting. She said most of the time she was faking it. She told him he was doing well with the baby and that his connection with his son would continue to grow. He didn’t seem convinced, but he appreciated her faith in him. He shifted gears and said they had to make a decision about Devon’s request to have a bigger role in Dominic’s life. Abby recalled Devon saying this was a bad idea, and she thought he may have changed his mind about wanting to amend the agreement. Chance, however, didn’t think Devon was planning to let it go. Chance said that Devon probably meant that it was a bad idea to have the discussion at Crimson Lights.

Chance and Abby acknowledged all Devon had done for Dominic. Abby noted that Mariah got very attached to Dominic, and when Mariah took some time away, it brought her some peace. Abby thought the same thing might happen to Devon, but if it didn’t, they had to do what was best for Dominic. Abby felt that they needed to be together as a family, so Chance could be the best father he could be, and their family time shouldn’t be disrupted. She didn’t want Dominic to be confused about where he lived and who his parents were. Chance said Devon could visit whenever he wanted. Abby agreed, but she was adamant that shared custody was out of the question. Chance said Devon would be disappointed. Abby was sorry about that, but she felt that this was best for their son and their family.

Devon was at home with Amanda. He stared at the framed copy of Dominic’s footprints. He couldn’t get over how Abby and Chance treated him for asking for more time with Dominic. He said they acted like he was attacking their parenting skills. Amanda thought Abby and Chance were in shock. She said it was a complicated situation. He said that Abby and Chance got defensive. Amanda noted that Abby and Chance also knew that Devon was the one who stepped up as a donor and helped track down the man who kidnapped Mariah, and he was there for the baby’s birth. “[Dominic] has a life because of you. [Abby and Chance] know that,” Amanda stated. He was giving Abby and Chance time to process things, because he didn’t want to push and jeopardize the friendship or his chances with Dominic. He wasn’t sure what to do though, and he wanted Amanda’s opinion. Amanda thought Devon’s request was reasonable, and she told him not to let it go.

Devon was kicking himself for not taking Amanda’s advice when she was originally drawing up the agreement. She said the baby was just an idea back then, and he’d had no idea his feelings would change. He said she knew. She hated seeing him hurt like this. He didn’t think he should push Abby anymore, given how upset she got. He thought it was amazing how one little life changed everyone. Amanda didn’t think Dominic changed Devon, she felt that the baby amplified the love, compassion and strength Devon already possessed. She hugged him and said there was nothing wrong with his request. Amanda offered to cook for Devon, and he said it was like she was trying to distract him with food. He wanted a distraction, so they began to kiss, but Abby showed up. Amanda left.

Devon apologized for how intense everything got. Abby apologized for her reaction. Abby said Devon was more than a friend, and she was eternally grateful to him. He said he’d do anything for Dominic. She knew, but she and Chance decided not to change the visitation agreement. “Dominic has a home with his mother and his father,” she stated. Devon wanted it to be clear he wasn’t trying to take Chance’s place as Dominic’s dad. Abby assured Devon that Dominic was adored by his parents, and he’d have a supportive family for the rest of his life. She said Devon was always welcome in their home, but they didn’t want to confuse Dominic, especially since Chance was trying to make up for the time he lost with his son. Devon didn’t want to get in the way of that. Abby reminded Devon that when they talked about creating a child, they all sat down and created boundaries. As the parents, she and Chance thought it was important to adhere to those boundaries. Devon said when they started this journey, they had no idea what path they’d end up on. Abby conceded that she’d thought Chance would be around for most of the pregnancy. She was thankful that Devon was there to help when she thought Chance died, but now her family was intact. She said that Dominic’s father had been through hell, and he needed time to bond with the baby. “And I refuse to let a single thing disrupt that. I hope you understand,” she stated.

Abby knew that wasn’t what Devon wanted to hear, but she asked him to say something; anything, good or bad, because she could take it. He didn’t think there was anything left to say. She was willing to help if she could. She knew Mariah needed some space, and she said she’d understand if he needed that too. He said he wasn’t going anywhere. She was glad. She said that he was always welcome at the Chancellor house. She invited him by today, but he declined. Abby left.

Amanda returned, and Devon brought her up to speed. Amanda scoffed at the notion that it’d be confusing for Dominic to spend time with his godfather. “I’ll tell you what’s confusing. Having his mother run away to a foreign country without telling anyone where she’s going or why,” Amanda griped. Devon said, according to Abby, his request was unnecessary because Dominic already had a mom and dad. Amanda stated that Devon had every right to be angry and disappointed, and he also had options. He was curious about that, and she said he could take legal action.

Devon didn’t want to take Abby and Chance to court. Amanda said this wasn’t a typical donor situation. She noted that Abby and Devon had been friends for years. Amanda thought that the fact that Abby entrusted Devon with Dominic when she left town showed that she considered Devon the de facto father. Amanda said Devon dropped everything and rearranged his life to take care of Dominic while Abby was gone. Devon wanted to know how a court case would go, hypothetically. Amanda said that, as the biological father, Devon could petition for visitation, just like many grandparents successfully did. Amanda said Chance wasn’t there when Devon signed the original contract. Devon asked if that helped or hurt his position. Amanda stated that it complicated things, but it meant Devon’s agreement was with Abby and not Chance. Devon wasn’t sure if there was a deeper reason Abby was fighting him on this. He didn’t know if she was trying to protect Chance or if she felt threatened. He said if he took Abby and Chance to court, it’d affect everyone, including Dominic.

Amanda wasn’t going to tell Devon what to do. He wanted her take, though, so she said it concerned her that Abby and Chance were drawing a line in the sand. It made her wonder what their next move would be. Devon didn’t think Abby and Chance would retaliate – Abby promised he’d always have a place in Dom’s life. Devon acknowledged that he chose to father the child without any stipulations on visitation. Back then, all he’d wanted was to help Chance and Abby start a family. Amanda noted that Chance and Abby had promised Devon he’d be part of that family. He said he needed to be there for Dominic however he could be.

Sharon and Rey flirted at Crimson Lights until Nick came in with gifts for them from Italy. He hoped Christian wasn’t too much trouble. Sharon and Rey loved watching him. Nick’s trip was amazing, and it was the best present he ever gave himself. The change of scenery helped Nick figure some things out. Summer was doing great and she and Kyle were building a great life there with Harrison. Chance came, and Rey went to the patio to talk with him. Sharon noticed that Nick was more relaxed. He took a look at Summer’s life and saw that the distance from the family gave her a chance to grow and challenge herself. It made him realize being a Newman shouldn’t define any part of who he was.

Nick knew he had this awakening about his family before, but they kept pulling him back in. It felt different this time. Sharon was proud of Nick. Nick admitted he hadn’t been completely honest with Sharon about his dream from Christmas Eve. He said Cassie was in it. Sharon hadn’t dreamed about Cassie in so long. She was curious to know what Cassie had been like in the dream. Nick said Cassie had been beautiful, radiant and content. Cassie said an un-examined life wasn’t worth living. Sharon stated that Cassie was always an old soul. Sharon wanted to think the dream was a message from Cassie. Nick said that Noah and Faith were in the dream too, and they encouraged him to follow his heart and get back to his roots. He thought they were talking about the roots he planted. He said his family would keep him grounded – Noah, Faith, Summer, Christian, and Sharon. He’d been drifting for so long, but he finally thought he found what he was looking for.

On the patio, Chance was ready to go back to work, even though the plan had been for him to take it slow. The chief had been a little reluctant to take Chance back soon, so Chance wanted Rey to put in a good word for him. Rey asked what about Abby and the baby. Chance said Abby was supportive, then he changed the subject and asked what case Rey was working on. Rey walked Chance through a missing person’s case. Chance immediately became invested in solving the case, so he took notes on it.

Sharon asked what role she was going to play in Nick’s plan for his life. He told her that she’d always be a big part of his life. Nick was going to recommit to his family and put his children first. Sharon said Nick always did that. Nick’s new plan was going to go further, and it involved Noah. Chance and Rey returned, and Chance and Nick said hi as he left. Nick left too. Sharon told Rey about Nick’s holiday epiphany.

Abby ran into Dominic and his nanny at the park, and she brought her baby home. She told Dominic that he and his dad made everything better. She wondered where Chance was, and her calls went to voicemail. Dominic cried out, and Abby said that was how she felt when she had to talk to his godfather. She wasn’t sure they’d see Devon anytime soon, but she said she’d done the right thing. She thought it was amazing that his dad was home and safe. Chance came home and greeted Abby, and she told him to say hi to the baby too. After Chance cooed at the baby for a bit, Abby said that she’d been worried when she got home, and Chance wasn’t there. Chance said he was with Rey. His eyes lit up when he began to tell Abby about the case. She asked if he’d already gone back to work without telling her. Chance hadn’t put the badge back on. He was just getting the lay of the land at the station, so he’d be caught up when he did go back. He promised he’d never go back to work without talking to her. He admitted it was nice to get his feet wet again. He brought up the case again, and he was very enthusiastic about it. She said she hadn’t seen him this excited in a long time. That seemed to bother her.

Chelsea did some deep breathing at Society to relax. Noah approached her, and she said it had been a day. She mentioned work stress, and he said he wasn’t surprised about that, since she worked for Adam and with Sally. When Noah mentioned that Sally and Adam seemed close in Tuscany, Chelsea had to do her breathing exercise again. Noah was second guessing his decision to work at Newman Media, partially because of Adam, and partially because he’d once thought he needed to escape from the family business. Chelsea asked what made Noah return. He said maybe he wanted to figure out if he was running from Genoa City for the wrong reasons. Things in London didn’t turn out how he thought, and he considered that it might be karma’s way of saying he shouldn’t have run away. He said maybe he should jump into the viper’s nest at Newman Media. She hoped he didn’t see her as a viper. They smiled. While Chelsea thought it was brave of Noah to try and prove something to himself, she said they both knew what kind of damage the Newmans could cause. He agreed. Her advice was not to make himself miserable. Nick showed up, and he told Chelsea she looked fantastic. He asked about her working at Newman Media, and she said she and Adam were working it out day by day. Chelsea left for work. Nick asked Noah to come work for him.

Chelsea was working on the Crimson Lights patio when Rey joined her. She said her job wasn’t going the way she imagined. Rey was interested in hearing about it. Chelsea thought it was a miracle Rey was even talking to her after she poisoned him. She said he was a really good guy. Rey said he wasn’t such a great guy and that there were people behind bars who’d disagree with her. He was curious what made her decide to work at Crimson Lights. She said what was bothering her didn’t really matter, since there was nothing she could do to change it, but she appreciated him asking. She didn’t have many people to talk to these days, so she wasn’t going to repay his kindness by boring him with her issues. He said he’d let her get back to work. Rey went inside, back to Sharon. She kissed him on the cheek and said he really was a good guy.
