Ben: Uh. You know, here I was thinking that when we got done with this, maybe we’d actually be able to celebrate valentine’s day. But at this rate, I guess we could just do that tomorrow.

Ciara: Okay, you know what?

Ben: What?

Ciara: I think the painting is perfect.

Nicole: Ms. Vitali, as always, did a pretty good job of covering her tracks. But not good enough to get past me. She’s going down, mr. Hutchins. So you can either cut a deal and testify against her, or she’s gonna take you down with her because that’s the kind of person she is. So are you gonna walk in that courtroom and perjure yourself? Or are you gonna take advantage of your last chance to save yourself and admit that ava vitali put you up to this?

Ava: I hope you believe me, allie.

Allie: I know you wouldn’t swear on tripp’s life if you didn’t mean it.

Ava: Absolutely not. I love him with all of my heart. As I know you do. And for tripp’s sake, I just– I can’t have you thinking badly of me, especially not tonight, when he’s about to–

Tripp: Thanks. I really want it to be special. She deserves that. I just–I’ve never met anyone like her. Not only is she beautiful, but she’s funny, honest. I’m telling you what you already know.

Chanel: Yeah. I hope that didn’t sound like i was rubbing it in, though, after everything you’ve been through with johnny.

Chanel: No, no. I–I know how much you love allie. And it’s not your fault her brother was an ass. Allie did keep warning me about him.

Tripp: Yeah, but I think even allie underestimated how big of an ass he is. I mean, not only did he just treat you like crap, but, I mean, after what happened between you and allie…

Chanel: What happened between me and allie was that… we kissed a couple of times a long time ago. And since then, she has made it totally clear that you’re the one she loves. And johnny’s the one I… the one I thought I loved.

Johnny: It’s true. I might want to be the ceo of dimera one day, but gabi has convinced me that you’re the right man for the job– in this moment. She can be very persuasive, you know.

Jake: I do know that.

Gabi: I told johnny that you’ve done this job before, so you could be up to speed day one. Also that shin has always been on your side.

Johnny: And besides, I’m so busy with this movie, I don’t have time for another job. Tell you to truth, I kinda wish my producer wasn’t holding me to my contract.

Jake: Hmm, that’s funny, johnny, I thought you were dying to do this movie.

Johnny: Yeah. But I’m just feeling like I’M… in a deal with the devil to tell the devil’s story.

Julie: Perhaps it’s coincidence. But the devil did come to salem to claim your unborn baby. So doug and I got the cross– the one thing that we thought would protect our new great-grandchild.

Ben: Have some water.

Julie: Thank you.

Ciara: Grandma, it’s okay. We can fix it. We will try again and again and again.

Julie: Sweetheart, I know you think I’m overreacting, that I’m just a superstitious old woman. But let me tell you, the last time I saw an upside-down cross, the devil was standing in the middle of my living room.

Ben: And that was horrible, but marlena is not possessed by the devil anymore.

Ciara: Yeah. The exorcism worked, and the entire family was there to witness it.

Julie: Good. I know when the devil passed from doug to marlena… now it’s passed out of marlena. How do we know the devil has left salem?

[Eerie music]

Ahh it’s the birthday girl!

Nicole: I’ve covered a lot of cases like this. Now, I’m not telling you what to do, but I do think it’s wise to take the exit ramp while you still have the chance.

Hutchins: The last time a former associate of ms. Vitali crossed her, he wound up dead with a steak knife in his chest.

Nicole: Are you saying you’re a former associate of ms. Vitali?

Hutchins: I never said that.

Melinda: Mr. Hutchins, there’s been a change in the schedule. What the hell is going on here?

[Tense music]

Ava: [Chuckles] That’s quite a leap there, allie.

Allie: Is it? Because I ran into tripp the other day with my grandfather at the pub, and they said they were talking about uncle steve and aunt kayla, but… tripp is so old fashioned, I bet he was asking for my hand in marriage because my parents aren’t around.

Ava: Okay, now that’s an even bigger leap.

Allie: But is it true?

Ava: Okay, I’m not gonna lie to you. Yeah, it is.

Allie: Oh, my god.

Ava: Okay, now please, please do not say anything to tripp, because he is so excited and I cannot be the one who ruined it for him. It would just kill me if you said no because of me.

Tripp: Thank you for being happy for us.

Chanel: Of course I’m happy. Horton’s just about my favorite person in the world, and… I guess I’m gonna have to get used to calling her johnson now.

Tripp: Doesn’t have quite the same ring to it. But speaking of rings, I was thinking about putting it at the bottom of her champagne glass.

Chanel: Well, I mean, if she happens to swallow it, you’re a doctor, so you can do that heimlich thing on her.

Tripp: You think it’s cheesy, don’t you?

Chanel: No, it’s not that. It’s just, um… you know, horton’s not really a big fan of champagne.

Tripp: That’s right. She likes cosmos. But I’ve never made a cosmo before in my life.

Chanel: I got you. I will write down the recipe for you.

Tripp: Oh, thank you.

Chanel: I know just how she likes it.

[Sentimental music]

Johnny: So we all on the same page?

Jake: Yeah. I say we strike while the iron’s hot.

Johnny: Gosh, uncle jake, you sure can turn a phrase. I’m gonna call shin and tell him that we want to convene a board meeting as soon as possible. So if you’ll excuse me.

[Tense music]

Jake: That arrogant son of a bitch.

[Exhales] Again? Sorry to interrupt whatever that was going on here when I walked in.

Gabi: Nothing was going on.

Jake: Looked pretty cozy to me, gabs.

Gabi: We need his votes to get what we want, okay? I know what I’m doing. Would you please trust me?

[Eerie tone]

[Phone beeps] Oh, funny. Maggie kiriakis wants to see you.

Jake: Hmm.

Gabi: What’s that about?

Ciara: Do you think that the devil possessed grandpa doug again?

Julie: Oh, god forbid. But something very strange happened just a couple of nights ago. A fire broke out on top of the stove. The stove was not even on.

Ciara: Are you sure it wasn’t?

Julie: I’m sure, darling. The repair person looked it over, said everything was fine, had to be user error.

Ben: Hmm. And you think maybe that it could have been the devil that did it?

Julie: The fire broke out just as I was leaving to bring you that cross.

Ciara: Yes, and johnny brought it over.

Julie: Yeah, johnny. Johnny showed up. Wanted to talk to doug about this awful movie that he plans to make. Well, I told him what i thought of that.

Ben: Well, he told us that you were busy–

Ciara: “Putting out fires.” He said you were putting out fires, but he said it in a very joking kind of way.

Julie: Well, it wasn’t any joke. The flames were this high, there was absolutely no reason for them, and…

[Sighs] God. Oh, god, this cannot be happening again.

Allie: Ava, it means so much to me that we have a good relationship because of henry and tripp. But even if we didn’t, my feelings for you would never, ever affect how I answer tripp.

Allie: Oh, no worries there.

Chanel: All right. And serve in a chilled cocktail glass.

Chanel: Well, we might wanna rethink that. When I asked you, I didn’t know that you were just about to become johnny’s brother-in-law.

Tripp: Well, he’ll be my brother-in-law only if allie says “yes.”

Chanel: Well, if she does say “yes,” then just make sure it’s cool with her for you to testify.

Tripp: I’m sure it will be. I mean, she feels the same about johnny as I do. She’s even taken to calling him the evil twin.

[Ominous music]

Jake: I swear, I have no idea what maggie wants.

[Phone beeps]

Gabi: Well, she says it’s urgent.

Jake: It’s gotta have something to do with victor and the titan stuff. Better get going.

Gabi: Well, let me know what she says.

Jake: You know I will. But just fair warning, I don’t plan on doing much business talk.

[Ominous music]

[Eerie tone]

Ciara: Has grandpa doug been okay lately?

Julie: He hasn’t locked me in the freezer again, if that’s what you’re asking.

Ciara: Oh, god. I–I don’t know exactly what I’m asking. I just… has he been acting out of character?

Julie: No. No, he’s back to being the most wonderful husband in the world again. And you know I’m watching him like a hawk after everything we’ve been through.

Ciara: Yeah, well, sure. Of course. I can imagine.

Julie: Come to think of it… when the devil left doug, went into marlena, she was present in the room. I mean, she was physically there with him. Now, doug was not at that exorcism. So there’s no way that the devil could have gone back to possess him.

Ben: Is that how these things work?

Julie: That’s what I’m told.

Ben: All right.

Julie: Okay, uh, I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry if I’ve disturbed you people.

Ben: No, no, no.

Julie: I didn’t mean to. I guess I am getting…

[Sighs] Crazy.

Ben: No, no.

Julie: I just want you to be well and, oh, my god, I want you to be safe, darling. And consider yourselves lucky that you don’t have a gas stove.

[Both chuckle] Have a wonderful, wonderful valentine’s day together.

Ben: Thank you.

Ciara: We will. And tell grandpa doug that i love him and give him all my hugs and kisses.

Julie: I’ll be glad to do.

Ciara: Okay.

Julie: Bye-bye.

Ciara: Bye.

Ben: Bye, julie.

Ciara: [Sighs] Okay, she really just gave me a scare. Ben?

Ben: It just doesn’t make any damn sense, ciara. There’s nothing wrong with the nail. The cross wasn’t top-heavy.

Ciara: Okay, now you’re scaring me.

Ben: Okay, hey. Let’s go inside.

[Sighs]

[Tense music]

Ciara: Ben, what are you thinking?

Ben: I’m thinking that maybe she was right. That there’s no way that the devil could have gone back into doug.

Ciara: But?

Ben: But maybe… it could have jumped into somebody else.

[Tense music]

Hutchins: This lady says she’s a reporter, that she wanted to talk to me about–

Melinda: This is not a lady or a reporter. This is a witness tamperer. Get out, miss walker, before I have the bailiff throw you out. And I suggest you call a lawyer unless you wanna join your boyfriend in statesville.

[Phone beeps]

[Line ringing]

[Phone rings, beeps]

Ava: Hey, honey.

Tripp: Hey, mom. I just wanted to say thank you for helping me get ready for tonight.

Ava: Yeah, of course. How you doing?

Tripp: I wish I could fast-forward to dinner. But hey, can I ask you to pick up a few extra things for me? I’m gonna need some cranberry juice and some limes.

Ava: Cosmos, huh? Sounds like everything’s a go.

Tripp: Yeah. Yeah, she’s gonna be so surprised.

Chanel: Hey, horton. You look like you’re contemplating the meaning of life.

Allie: I kind of am. I just found out from tripp’s mom that he’s going to propose to me tonight.

Chanel: I know. He told me.

Allie: He told you?

Chanel: Well, only because he wanted my opinion of the ring. You’ll love it. It’s gorge.

Allie: I bet I will.

Chanel: So I know he wanted it to be a surprise, but since you know, what are you gonna say?

[Chilling music]

Jack: [Grunts]

Gabi: What’s wrong?

Jack: Damn it.

[Vocalizes] I don’t know. A weird shock feeling.

Gabi: It’s been really dry out; I’m literally an electroshock machine. Are you okay?

Jake: [Vocalizes] Yeah. I’ll be fine. I’ll see you later.

Gabi: Yeah.

Jake: Oh, and, uh, I hope you’re hungry, because I got a bit of a surprise for you when I get back from maggie’S. See you, johnny.

Gabi: He’s got a surprise for me. He’s still plotting with maggie practically out in the open.

Johnny: Well, you’ve got an even bigger surprise for him. You know what they say: Pride goeth before the fall.

Ciara: So if the devil is still after our baby…

Ben: It had to have been somebody at the exorcism.

Ciara: All right, well, belle told me who was there. Marlena, of course. John, eric, brady, sami, allie, and johnny. Johnny. The one who brought us the cross.

Nicole: Oh, drop the act, ava.

Rafe: Nicole–

Nicole: It is so obvious that you found out rafe and i made love, and you wanted revenge.

Ava: You–you and rafe?

[Suspenseful music]

You slept with my best friend? Rafe?

Rafe: I’m sorry.

Ava: When? When?

Rafe: What difference does it make?

Ava: Because I want to know.

Rafe: It was halloween, okay?

Ava: So you’ve been lying to me for months. Both of you.

Rafe: Ava–

Ava: [Inaudible] How many times? Did it happen more than once?

Rafe: No, it was– it was a one-time thing.

Ava: Oh, is that the truth? Is that the truth now?

Rafe: Yes. The whole truth is I’ve had feelings for nicole for a while now.

Ava: We talked about this, rafe. You denied it more than once. You looked me in the eyes, how many times have you told me that you were committed to me?

Rafe: I lied, okay? I lied to you. I lied to myself. I’m so sorry. You deserve better.

Ava: You made me believe that what we had was real.

[Chuckles] It’s just all a lie, huh?

Nicole: I asked rafe to keep it a secret because I didn’t want to come between you.

Ava: Oh, what a good friend you are.

Rafe: This is not–

Ava: So concerned about my feelings.

Rafe: Ava–

Ava: What?

Rafe: It’s not on nicole, okay? This is on me. I owed it to you to tell you the truth, and–

Rafe: I did–I did far from that, okay?

Ava: Yeah, you sure did. Right, okay, so–so you sleep with my best friend. Yes, nicole, you slept with him, right? And then–and then you tell him to lie. She asks you to lie, you do it, and then you stand up for her?

Nicole: We made a mistake. But I am not surprised that you acted like the vindictive bitch that you have always been, and framed him–

Ava: Oh, my god, I am not the same woman I used to be.

Nicole: The hell you’re not.

Rafe: Okay, ava, I– ava, I understand that you are angry. I get that, okay? You’re upset. I am so sorry. And I understand that you feel betrayed for what I have done. But I have to ask you, did you do this? Did you? Did you frame me? ‘Cause right now, we can still get the charges dropped before it’s too late.

Marlena: When you first came in here, you talked a lot about craig. And then you said, “what’s wrong with me? What did I do wrong?” Are you thinking this is your fault?

Nancy: It is, I mean, not totally, I’m just– I’m just thinking that maybe if I–if I had tried really hard to be–to be–

Marlena: What? To be what?

Nancy: Marlena, to be what he needed. I mean, I know I’m stubborn, and–and I’m argumentative, and I talk way too much, I just keep going on–

Marlena: Stop it. Stop right there. Your husband is gay. That isn’t your fault. Your husband kept a very big secret from you. And–and his sexual orientation isn’t really a choice. But he made a choice to keep that from you. And that’s what I think is causing you so much pain.

Nancy: But marlena, he’s destroyed my marriage. I mean, what–what do I do now?

[Sobs]

Chloe: I get how difficult this must be for you, dad. And I–I do appreciate you opening up to me. And of course I want you to be happy. And I know after everything you’ve been through, you need love and support too, and just know that I’m here for you too.

Craig: Well, I won’t say no to my daughter.

Chloe: So you–you said you’re in love?

Craig: I am. And I want you to meet him, if that’s not too hard for you.

Chloe: Uh…meet him.

Craig: Yeah, he’s coming to salem. Tonight.

Johnny: “Anna, you are my everything. All my love, tony.” Nauseating. Much more interesting. You’re the naughty one, anna, so that one’s for you. Ugh. No. Too damn sweet. Well, what’s valentine’s day without a little bit of bitterness?

Gabi: I hate him.

Johnny: That’s more like it.

[Dramatic music]

Gabi: What do you think? Jake. He tried to feed me a chocolate candy.

Johnny: The nerve.

Gabi: And then there was flower petals everywhere, he woke me up with a rose.

Johnny: Is the, uh– the poor guy still breathing?

Gabi: I wanted to slug the son of a bitch, but you know what? I didn’T. I listened to your advice. I didn’t let on that I know he wants to backstab me.

Johnny: Well-played.

Gabi: But he was so sweet and romantic. I don’t know, is it possible that I somehow misunderstood when he was talking to maggie about cutting me out of the deal?

Johnny: I wish that were true, gabriella, because I can see how much you love my uncle. But I’m afraid his conversation with victor’s wife was no misunderstanding.

Gabi: How do you know that? You weren’t there.

Johnny: Maybe not, but I am sorry to say that I have found some indisputable proof that jake is planning to betray you.

Ava: Confess? To framing you?

Rafe: Ava. I know that you’re upset, but if you ever cared for me–

Ava: Oh, I did care for you. I loved you. And you cheated on me with that whore. So, no, I got–I got nothing to confess. In fact, I’d say you are guilty as sin. Good luck in court, rafe, ’cause you’re gonna need it.

Rafe: Ava–

Ava: Oh, and too bad you’re gonna be buried behind bars. Don’t worry, I’m sure nicole will wait for you.

[Tense music]

John: That’s gotta be rough, having all these feelings that you can’t act on.

Brady: Yeah, that’s something I have a little experience with.

John: You talking about chloe?

Brady: Yep.

John: So how’s that going, kid?

Brady: I’ve made no secret that I have feelings for her.

John: Mm-hmm.

Brady: But the fact that philip is still missing kind of puts everything on hold, dad. But that’s not what–[Sighs] That’s not what matters. What matters is chloe needs to know that she’s not alone in this. And I’m gonna be there for her every step of the way.

Chloe: You just said that you were worried about hurting mom, but you’re gonna bring your new boyfriend to salem?

Craig: I didn’t know he was coming till this morning. We spoke last night. After we hung up, he–

[Sighs] He booked a flight. Just–he doesn’t want any drama, he just wants to support me. If you can’t do this, I understand, but– it would mean the world to me if you could meet him, see how happy he makes me. Would you think about it? Please?

Chloe: Okay, I will.

Craig: Thanks.

[Emotional music]

Marlena: Nancy, you and craig have had so many happy years together. A family that you love– the breakup of a marriage, it’s–it’s a loss.

Nancy: It feels like a death.

Marlena: I know. And you’re grieving, and–

[Exhales] There’s no pill that I can give you, there’s no easy fix here. It is just going to take time.

Nancy: I was a afraid you were gonna say that.

Marlena: You’re not alone in this, you know? You got lots of people that are here to help you, that care about you. And if you need even more help, I’ll be here for you.

Nancy: Thank you, marlena. And thank you for giving me some perspective. Craig used to do things like that for me on valentine’s day. I guess not this year. Thank you.

Marlena: [Sighs] Life’s been hard enough.

Chloe: Hey.

Brady: Hi.

Chloe: Hey, do you have a minute?

Brady: For you, always. Come in.

Chloe: Thanks.

Brady: What’s going on?

Chloe: Oh, I–I just– I just saw my dad, and he wants me to meet his new boyfriend.

Brady: When?

Chloe: He’s on his way to salem right now. He booked his own flight, it wasn’t my dad’s idea.

Brady: [Sighs] Uh, what are you gonna do?

Chloe: That’s the thing, I don’t know. There’s–there’s a part of me that feels like I’m betraying my mom, but at the same time, I–I want to be there for my dad. I know he’s in pain and I want to support him.

Brady: Right, right. Your dad–I mean, that’s not an easy decision, chloe.

Chloe: No, it’s not easy. And I was hoping maybe it would be easier if you agreed to come with me?

[Knock at door]

John: Hey, gorgeous.

[Gasps] Ohh. Ohh. Somebody really loves you. And that somebody is here.

[Laughter]

Marlena: Happy valentine’s day.

John: Right back at you, sweetheart.

Marlena: I didn’t think that I would see you until this evening.

John: Oh, I just couldn’t stay away from my beautiful bride. And I had an interesting conversation with brady. He, um– he just told me that craig wesley’s in town, and he has left nancy for a man.

Marlena: I know. I know, um–nancy was the person who came in when I was talking to you on the phone.

John: That was her? Ooh. So how’s she doing?

Marlena: Well, I can’t really talk about it, but you can imagine she’s having a very hard time.

[Dramatic music]

[Phone ringing]

Jake: You guys seen gabi? Said she’d be here. You know, moral support and all.

Nicole: Uh, I haven’t seen her.

Jake: Must have just missed her then, huh?

Rafe: Gabi was never here.

Gabi: You have proof? What proof?

Johnny: When you came to me, with what you heard between maggie and jake, I realized I couldn’t trust my uncle jake, so I decided to do a little digging. I reached out to a contact that I have in the dimera legal department. She shared this with me.

Gabi: What is this?

Johnny: This is a formal petition to transfer stefan O. Dimera’s shares.

Gabi: My shares?

Johnny: Your shares to jake.

Gabi: He can’t do that.

Johnny: Well, jake makes the argument that you’re not blood-related, and that as stefan’s twin, he’s the rightful heir.

Gabi: No, he wouldn’t do that to me. You’re lying.

Johnny: I wish.

[Sighs] But… is this jake’s signature?

[Dramatic music]

Gabi: That bastard.

As a struggling actor,

John: I’m glad that nancy has found her way to you, because there is not a better person who can give her the kind of support she’s gonna need.

Marlena: Oh. You know, every time I talk to somebody whose marriage is in trouble, makes me appreciate how precious ours is.

John: Oh, you’ve got that right, doc.

Craig: [Sighs] Nancy– I’m so sorry I hurt you, I– I hope you know that. And I–I want you to know that no matter what happens, I’m still your friend.

Nancy: [Laughs] You are not my friend. And you’re not going to be my husband much longer, because I want a divorce.

[Melancholy music]

Brady: You–okay, you want me to go to dinner with you, and your dad, and his boyfriend? Tonight?

Chloe: Oh. Oh, my god. I’m sorry, I–I forgot it’s–it’s valentine’s day.

Brady: Yeah, it is, it is.

Chloe: You–you probably have other plans?

Brady: I don’T. So yes, I would love to go to dinner with you. I mean, what are friends for, right?

Nicole: Rafe, I am so sorry I lost it on ava.

Rafe: It’s okay. It is okay. You know, I’m actually kind of relieved.

Nicole: How could you say that?

Rafe: Because now it’s finally all out in the open, and there’s no reason we can’t be together. But I will totally understand if you don’t want to spend the next however many years talking through a wall of glass to a guy in a jumpsuit.

Nicole: I am not gonna let that happen. I am not giving up. I am going to find a way to prove that ava framed you.

Jake: Gabi, gabi, gabi. Said you’d be with your brother, and you’re not. Where the hell are you?

Gabi: Okay, that’s it, I’m out of here.

Johnny: Whoa, where are you going?

Gabi: To kill jake. Where do you think I’m going?

Johnny: Look, I can be a bit of a hothead myself, but I think we both know, cooler heads will win the game.

Gabi: I’d rather kill him.

Johnny: Hey, hey, hey. We talked about this, okay? We can use this. Besides, won’t it be fun to see jake’s face when we burn him to the ground?

Gabi: Well, you know, when you put it like that, fine. But we need a plan. What is the plan?

Johnny: Oh, it’s simple. We screw jake, before he screws you.

[Phone rings]

Gabi: Oh, it’s jake!

Johnny: Cooler heads…

Gabi: How could he do this to me?

Johnny: How about a valentine’s chocolate to take your mind of him, huh?

Abigail: Okay. All right. I’ll play your little game here. Is it rex?

Kristen: Ugh.

Abigail: Eric?

Kristen: Oh, please. She and the good father never stood a chance.

Abigail: You probably pumped sarah so full of drugs, I mean, her new heartthrob could be harry truman.

Kristen: Oh, my god. I wouldn’t have shot her full of anything if someone hadn’t left a full syringen the dimera dungeon.

Abigail: Look, all right, I already get that it’s my damn fault, thank you very much. But unlike you who has no conscience, I already feel terrible enough about it without you continuously waving it in my face.

Kristen: Ooh, I’m just stating the facts.

Abigail: [Exhales] If it’s not rex and it’s not eric, then who would– it’s chad, isn’t it? You saw to it that sarah was fixated on my husband.

Kristen: No. It’s even better than that. I’ve seen to it that she is fixated on a dimera of seniority.

Abigail: Tony?

Kristen: Ahh, good girl.

[Laughs]

Steve: So you’re in love with tony dimera?

Sarah: Don’t sound so skeptical. I mean, we’ve had our ups and downs, but tony’s the love of my life.

Steve: Maybe she thinks she’s anna.

Sarah: Anna fredericks? How could you possibly confuse me with that scheming bitch?

Kayla: Well, then who are you?

Sarah: I am the one and only renee dumonde.

Kayla: That can’t be. You cannot be renee.

Sarah: Of course I can.

Kayla: No, it’s not possible because renee dumonde is dead.

Lani: Okay, tr coates, let’s see what you’ve been up to since you fathered me. “Hollywood heavyweight to produce biopic on small town shrink possessed by satan.” Hollywood heavyweight?

[Sighs]

[Door clicks] Hi.

Eli: Hi.

[Both laugh]

Lani: Welcome home.

Eli: Mm.

Lani: You made really good time getting here from the airport.

Eli: Yes.

Lani: How was it visiting your mom?

Eli: It was good, but I am glad to be back home.

Lani: You have no idea how glad I am to have you home.

Eli: Twins were a handful?

Lani: It wasn’t just that.

Eli: Uh-oh.

Lani: Mm-hmm.

Eli: What happened?

Paulina: I know my name is not on the lease. But your tenants, eli and lani grant, they’re members of my family. All I’m asking is that you make sure that a man named tr coates doesn’t get into that building again.

[Scoffs] Well, let’s talk money. How much do you want? Hello? Hello? Talk to me! Oh, he hung up on me?

[Phone beeps]

[Doorbell rings] Ahh, lani. Uh– you.

Tr: Lani’s dear old dad.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Tr: [Grunts] Paulina. This is ridiculous. I just wanna talk to you.

Paulina: Oh, yeah, yeah, “I just wanna talk to you.” I know I’ll end up with a black eye or a big lip or worse.

Tr: I told you, I’ve changed. Do you really want your neighbors to be hearing all our business?

Abigail: [Scoffs] You expect me to believe that sarah is moping around this island because of tony dimera? She barely knows him.

Kristen: Oh, well, she knows him intimately now.

Abigail: What did you do? Did you put on a tony mask and romance her?

Kristen: Don’t you think that’s a little far-fetched?

Abigail: Not for you, no. I mean, how else is sarah gonna fall for tony?

Kristen: Well, I mean, sarah didn’t actually fall for tony. Renee did.

Abigail: Oh, god. I give up. Who the hell is renee?

Sarah: Kayla, you’re starting to worry me. As you can see, renee dumonde is alive and well. If you don’t know the difference between the living and the dead, you might wanna rethink that nursing career.

Steve: Uh, kayla’s a doctor. And so are you.

Sarah: Me? A doctor? No, I don’t like the sight of blood. I’ll leave that to neil curtis, thank you.

Kayla: You mean your father?

Sarah: Okay. I think that she needs some rest. A few minutes ago, she was saying I was mickey and maggie horton’s daughter, which we both know that sarah is a toddler. And now I’m neil’s child?

Kayla: It’s complicated.

Sarah: Well, it’s not to me. You don’t know what you’re talking about. I know I’m renee dumonde.

Steve: Uh, sweetness? Could you bring me up to speed on who this renee dumonde character is?

Kayla: Yeah, I think I better. Looks like we’re stuck with her. We hit the bike trails every weekend

Abigail: Okay, so you’ve got sarah believing she is stefano’s dead illegitimate daughter who is in love with tony and murdered by a serial killer?

Kristen: Ooh, go to the head of the class. I’m gonna give you a blue ribbon and another night here in almost paradise.

Abigail: So how’d you do it? How did you make sarah believe that she was renee?

Kristen: Well, it wasn’t really hard. When she first got here, she had lost her grip.

Abigail: I understand that. She made the trip in a suitcase.

Kristen: Mm-hmm. But see, she was a bit of a challenge ’cause one moment, she thought I was xander and the next, a coconut. Like that. And I thought if I kept her focused and kept her out of my hair, it would work out. So I just gave her a bunch of books to read.

Abigail: Out of the dimera library?

[Scoffs] I can imagine.

Kristen: Okay, but one of those books just happened to be the diary of my late sister, renee. And sarah pored over that tortured memoir at warp speed. And then when she was finished, voil. She was convinced she was renee dumonde. And there is nothing I could do to change that.

Kayla: And it turned out she was murdered by the salem slasher.

Steve: Aka andre dimera.

Kayla: Yeah.

Steve: So what’s your best guess why she thinks that she’s renee?

Kayla: I don’t know. Maybe kristen brainwashed her or maybe she just snapped.

Steve: After what kristen put her through, it’s possible. So what do we do?

Kayla: At the moment, I think we just humor her.

Sarah: What are you two whispering about?

Kayla: Um, nothing. We were just discussing how much we want to get out of this place.

Sarah: As do I. I miss my tony so much. I have to get home to him.

Steve: Well, we’re gonna need these if we’re gonna break out of this place.

Sarah: Oh, good. We can get to the kayak. But we have to make sure that we look it over thoroughly just in case anyone drilled a hole in it below the water line.

Steve: Why would you say that?

Sarah: Because that’s what i did to the boat that anna was on. What? Was she a friend of yours?

Anna: So you think someone paid ned to kidnap abigail?

Tony: That’s our theory, yes.

Anna: Oh, my goodness. Well, how soon do you have to leave?

Tony: Well, chad’s at the airfield now checking out the jet. I have to pack a bag and meet him there. Chad is hoping that I can convince ned to tell us where he took abigail.

Anna: Okay, I can go with you.

Tony: No, no, no, no, no. We don’t know what we’re walking into.

Anna: Well, ned would never hurt me.

Tony: Probably not. But I think it’s best that chad and I go it alone.

Eli: So this ray dude just showed up here with no warning?

Lani: Yeah. Scared me to death.

Eli: Why didn’t you call me?

Lani: I didn’t wanna break it to you over the phone.

Eli: [Sighs] Wait, how did he know how to find you?

Lani: He’s in town on business.

Eli: Well, what kind of business?

Lani: Film production. He’s producing johnny dimera’s film about marlena.

Eli: So I guess he’ll be here for a while, then.

Lani: Mm-hmm. He has a room at the salem inn.

Eli: You should have called me. I would have cut my trip short.

Lani: Nothing happened. He was minding his manners. I met my biological father for the first time. Other than that, it wasn’t a big deal.

Eli: Are you sure about that? You seem a little shaky.

Paulina: Oh, no. You sit over there.

Tr: I wanna talk about lani.

Paulina: Haven’t I told you to keep my daughter’s name out of your mouth?

Tr: She’s my daughter too.

Paulina: You gave up any rights that you had to my child when you started knocking me around.

Tr: I would never hurt lani. I told you, I’m a different man now. I have a right to know my daughter and my grandchildren.

Paulina: [Scoffs] You have no rights.

[Stammers] You–[Chuckles] Get out of here. Get out of here right now before I call the cops.

Tr: Okay, okay, okay. I’ll go. But we will be seeing each other again.

[Phone beeps]

[Line ringing]

Paulina: Hello. Hi. It’s me. I need to see you right away. It’s an emergency. Life’s been hard enough.

Steve: You drilled a hole in the boat that anna was on?

Sarah: Well, I didn’t know that tony was on it too. He could have drowned. But luckily, david got there just in time.

Steve: David who?

Kayla: David banning. Julie’s son, eli’s father.

Steve: Oh, right. That david. So david saved tony and anna’s lives?

Sarah: He did. Unfortunately, the baby that anna was carrying wasn’t as lucky.

Tony: I’ll call you as soon as we land.

Anna: Well, I guess that will have to be enough.

Tony: Mm. Would you keep an eye on charlotte and thomas? They know something’s up with their mum.

Anna: Of course I will. But darling, please, please be careful.

> Tony: [Laughs] Yes. Okay.

Anna: Oh.

Tony: Goodbye.

[Doorbell rings]

Anna: Oh. Hi. May I help you?

Tr: I certainly hope so.

Abe: Ooh. [Chuckles]

Paulina: Oh, whew. Thanks. Thanks for coming over.

Abe: You said it was an emergency. I didn’t realize you were preparing to bash somebody’s head in.

Paulina: I thought it might be him.

Abe: Who? What’s going on, paulina?

Paulina: This is about– it’s about lani.

Abe: Is she all right?

Paulina: She’s okay for now.

Abe: Well, what does that mean?

Paulina: That her bastard of a biological father is here in salem.

Tr: I’m here to see johnny dimera.

Anna: Oh, I’m sorry, but he’s out right now. May I give him a message?

Tr: My name is tr coates. I’m producing his film.

Anna: The one about marlena?

Tr: That’s the one.

Anna: Well, then please come in, mr. Coates.

Tr: Thank you.

Anna: The living room is right through there. Please, have a seat. Johnny is my nephew. My husband tony and I, well, we almost invested in the movie.

Tr: What stopped you?

Anna: My husband’s brother, johnny’s father. He didn’t think it was such a good idea. May I offer you something, mr. Coates? A glass of wine or a drink?

Tr: I’m fine, thank– and you can call me tr.

Anna: [Laughs] Okay, tr. You know, I’m really very excited about this movie. I think tony should play himself. Although actually, it was his deranged cousin andre who was pretending to be tony.

Tr: You know, maybe I will take that drink. Club soda?

Anna: Coming right up. And you know… I think I have the perfect casting choice to play andre’s wife, who, by the way, was also his adopted sister, kristen.

[Chuckles]

Tr: And, um, who would this perfect actress be?

Anna: Oh, me, of course.

Kristen: This was your fault, you know.

Abigail: Excuse me? Look, I might have left that syringe in the basement, but you? You are the one who injected sarah and decided to kidnap her in a suitcase. You’ve kept this woman prisoner here for months, and you didn’t think we were gonna realize that she was missing? Just so you know, I’m not gonna give up until I can take her home to her family.

Kristen: I mean, why don’t you ask sarah, or the woman you call sarah, which family she wants to be taken home to, hmm? Is it gonna be the hortons or the dimeras? Honestly, I thought I was getting my floors cleaned.

Abe: Ray? That son of a bitch is here? In my town?

Paulina: He calls himself tr. And he’s not just here, he came in style. Oh, he’s a hollywood big shot now. Teamed up with johnny dimera to produce that little weasel’s movie.

Abe: All right. How do we keep him away from lani?

Paulina: You think ray waited for a proper introduction?

Abe: You don’t mean that he–

Paulina: Yes, it’s too late, abe. They’ve already met.

Eli: I should have been here. You shouldn’t have had to deal with tr alone.

Lani: I didn’t have to. Paulina was right behind him, and she was in straight up mama lioness mode. I mean, she got rid of him before I could even begin to process what I was feeling.

Eli: So much for that.

Lani: I just… not that I didn’t know that he had been abusive to her, but paulina was going on and on about the kind of things that he had done to her and in detail. And now I have a way better understanding of why paulina was so afraid of tr that she didn’t even tell him that I existed. And why she gave me to her sister to keep me safe from him.

Eli: Makes me feel sorry for paulina.

Lani: Yeah, me too. But now that I know the truth, I have to admit I am curious about ray coates. I did a search on him. That’s him.

Eli: Wow. Does it make you feel guilty wanting to know more about him?

Lani: [Sighs] After what he did to paulina, yeah.

Eli: Well, listen, if anyone understands, it’s me. I grew up wanting to know everything about my dad. Left a hole in my heart that never healed.

Lani: But david banning didn’t abuse your mother. Tr coates, he– he beat my mom on a regular basis, and now he wants to be a part of my life. What am I supposed to do?

Tr: You do know the movie takes place 25 years ago.

Anna: Uh-huh.

Tr: Allie horton is set to play her own mother.

Anna: Ah.

Tr: Allie is in her 20s.

Anna: Oh, well, you know, you can just use one of those filter things. You know, put petroleum jelly on the lens or something. I mean, who better than tony’s real wife to play tony’s “real wife”?

[Laughs] You see what I did there?

Tr: Oh, yeah. I saw.

[Both laugh] But I actually have another actress in mind for the part.

Anna: Oh.

Tr: You know what? I will keep you in mind for some of my other projects.

Anna: You have other projects?

Tr: I produce two or three films a year.

Anna: Oh, then we definitely need to talk. You know, once you wrap “possessed,” you could do a sequel about the epic romance between tony and me. You can call it, “bewitched: The anna dimera story.” It’s got everything. Passion, action, more than one presumed death, and the best movie villain since darth vader.

Tr: Stefano dimera?

Anna: Oh, no. No. I was thinking more of his psychotic baby-killing bitch of a bastard daughter. Renee dumonde tried to ruin my life.

Sarah: Tony has always been my one true love. Tragically, we were forced apart when I found out that stefano was my birth father. But then we found out that stefano wasn’t tony’s birth father, so you see? We really are meant to be together.

Kayla: There’s a problem with that, though. Tony’s already married.

Sarah: Married? To who?

Steve: You’re not gonna like this. It’s anna.

Sarah: Again? Get me off of this island so i can tear her limb from limb. Gordan ramsey

Sarah: Well, tony will just have to annul his sham of a marriage. And then we can have an enormous wedding at st. Luke’s and have a reception at the dimera estate. What are you two doing? We have to get a move on if we’re gonna get out of here.

Steve: Look, renee, kayla and I wanna get back to salem just as bad as you do. But we have to deal with kristen first.

Sarah: Kristen’s never gonna let me leave. She said there’s a serial killer in salem.

Kayla: Wouldn’t be the first time.

Sarah: You’re telling me. The salem strangler tried to kill me more than once. I still can’t believe that poor jake kositchek was killing all those women.

Kayla: Uh–later, later.

Steve: Listen, renee. You have my word. I won’t let kristen stop us from leaving this island.

Sarah: You promise?

Steve: Promise.

Kristen: See, once sarah decided that she was renee, things became a lot easier for the both of us. And she was so obsessed with the details of her life, it made her docile. And then I could come and go as I wanted, and– I mean, for a while at least. Because now? Now all she thinks about is getting back to her beloved tony.

Abigail: Hmm. But you don’t know where she is.

Kristen: Oh, I’ll find her. I mean, she’s probably out building a boat out of banana leaves or something equally as asinine. No, I have to find her because I need to make sure she doesn’t hurt herself.

[Mutters indistinctly] This will keep you occupied. Hmm? It’s the life and times of renee dumonde. It’s a real page-turner.

Anna: So after all those years of believing I was a widow, my tony finally came back to me. Talk about a happy ending. He and I were destined to be together, no matter what renee dumonde wanted.

Tr: Well, it sounds like an interesting story.

Anna: Oh, I told you so. So what’s our next step?

Tr: Um… why don’t you write me up a treatment, and then we’ll talk?

Anna: Okay. That sounds like a good idea. I can start with when I first came to salem.

Tr: That’s perfect. Now, if you don’t–

Anna: It was just me and my little girl.

Tr: You didn’t mention you had a daughter.

Anna: Oh, her name is carrie. She’s so beautiful. People tell us all the time we look like sisters. Do you have any children, tr?

Tr: Actually, I just found out that I have a daughter.

Anna: Well, that’s wonderful.

Tr: Well, it would be, but… her mother’s done everything she can to keep us apart.

Anna: Oh, you can’t stand for that. You need to fight like a tiger to be in your daughter’s life.

Lani: I can’t help but hope that ray actually came to his senses and got the help that he needed. And not just for my sake, but for jules and carver. I mean, they share the man’s dna. What if one of them inherits his temper?

Eli: Whoa. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Genetics is just one factor in how a person turns out. Babe, if we raise our kids with love, kindness, and respect, I’m sure they’ll treat others the same.

Lani: You’re right. You are absolutely right. But after coming face-to-face with him and hearing everything that paulina went through with him… I can for sure as hell tell you who doesn’t believe that ray has changed, and that’s paulina.

Abe: I remember when you told me what ray did to you. After all these years, why did you tell him about lani?

Paulina: I didn’t! It was chanel.

Abe: What?

Paulina: She didn’t know who she was talking to. Ray went over there to talk to her about that damn movie and he mentioned that he knew me.

Abe: Is that all he said?

Paulina: Oh, yeah. He’s cagey.

[Chuckles] He told her that he met her cousin lani. And she told him that she was lani’s sister. He put it all together by himself and he never let on to her.

Abe: I’m gonna go check on lani and see how she’s doing.

Paulina: It’ll do her good to be with you.

Abe: Uh… what about you? Are you gonna be okay here?

Paulina: Well, you know us price women. We’re survivors. You go check on our girl.

[Sighs] Looking to get back in your type 2 diabetes zone?

Anna: Well, I’m ashamed to admit it, but I kept my daughter a secret from her father for the first four years of her life, and it’s o of my biggest regrets.

Tr: Did carrie and her dad ever get close?

> Anna: Oh, yes. Like they were never apart. Roman, my ex, he wouldn’t let me or anyone else keep him from being a father to carrie. And a wonderful one. So don’t you let anyone stand between you and your little girl.

Both: Hey.

Eli: How you doing, man?

Abe: Good, yeah. How’s valerie doing?

Eli: Superwoman as always. She sends her love.

Abe: That’s wonderful. And you, sweetheart.

Lani: Hi, dad.

Abe: How you doing?

Lani: I’m good. Just, you know, a little shaken up.

Eli: Well, now that you’re in good hands, I, um–I’m gonna go say hi to doug and julie.

Lani: Okay. Give them my love.

Eli: I will. I’ll see you. Take care of her, all right?

Abe: Good to see you too, man. Well, now that your overprotective husband is gone, your overprotective father wants the tea.

Lani: The tea?

Abe: Mm-hmm.

Lani: [Laughs] Look at you. Talking like a kid.

Abe: You know, I keep my hand in.

Lani: [Laughs]

Abe: So how you doing, sweetheart?

Abigail: “Dear diary, emily keeps telling me to stay away from tony, but I just can’T. He’s so handsome and he has that posh accent. Manly too. Like one of those jane austen heroes who rides up on his horse and makes the girls swoon. What’s wrong with my sister? Why is she so against tony and me getting closer?” Damn, this is kind of a page-turner.

Steve: Kristen!

Kayla: Might as well show your face. We’re gonna find you.

Sarah: Do you have to sound so angry? I mean, I get the threat of pirates, but my sister would never hurt us.

Kristen: What is all the ruckus? Oh, hey, sweetie. I see you met renee. Isn’t she special, hmm?

Ever notice how stiff clothes can feel rough on your skin?

Kayla: What did you give sarah? Why is she acting like this?

Sarah: Are we back to the sarah business again?

Kayla: Did you brainwash her? Did you deprive her until she dissociated?

Steve: Answer her.

Kristen: Wow, you two have always been so pushy. And your niece is exactly like you.

Steve: Abigail? She’s here?

Kayla: What have you done with her?

Kristen: Well, at the moment she’s curled up with a good book.

Abigail: “Everything’s awful. Stefano’s will was read this morning, and it says tony and i have to live in the dimera house with anna and david. I’d refuse, but then I lose my inheritance, and so would tony. I can’t believe my father’s torturing us from the grave. I don’t wanna be married to david anymore. He’s such a heel. And seeing tony every day with that trashy anna, I just– I can’t stand thinking about it. I have to do something. I have to find a way to get anna out of tony’s life… permanently.”

[Sighs] Poor anna. Renee really hated her guts.

Anna: Okay.

[Exhales] How do I even start? I don’t know what a treatment is except when doctors do it. Oh, I know, I’ll just pretend I’m nora ephron starting another masterpiece. Okay. Here goes. “Exterior.” That’s how they all start, right? Except this scene is inside. Hmm. “Interior. Tony’s penthouse. Daytime.” Okay, good. Now I’m rolling.

[Laughs]

[Gasps] “Anna is having it out with tony.” No, that’s not quite right. “The ravishing anna is having it out with cold, unfeeling tony because he refuses to accept her apology for sleeping with sinister andre by mistake because she thought he was tony.” What was it he said to me? Oh, how could I forget? Tony says… “oh, anna. How could you make love with that monster? Tell me, anna, did you look at him the way you look at me?” Anna says, “but tony, I told you, I thought he was you.”

[Inhales sharply] I’m going to make myself cry.

[Laughs] This screenplay writing thing is a snap once you get the hang of it. I wonder what I should wear to the oscars? Ha.

Tr: [Chuckles] Anna dimera may be a little eccentric, but… she’s right. I can’t stop trying to get through to lani.

[Knock at door]

Eli: Salem pd, open up.

Tr: Cops? What did paulina do now?

[Exhales deeply] Can I help you, officer?

Eli: Detective. Detective grant.

Tr: Oh, you must be lani’s husband. Come on in.

[Chuckles] So I guess this makes you my son-in-law.

Eli: Abe carver is my father-in-law. He’s one of the most decent men I’ve ever met.

Tr: I hope you think as well of me once we get to know each other.

Eli: Well, I don’t like what I know so far.

Tr: Well, I’m sure paulina has painted an ugly picture of me.

Eli: You didn’t help yourself too much by coming over to my home trying to barge in my door.

Tr: That’s not what happened.

Eli: Right. I guess you didn’t beat up paulina either. You didn’t scare her so much that she had to keep lani a secret from you?

Tr: Sounds like you’ve already made up your mind about me.

[Sighs] Are you planning to help paulina poison my daughter against me?

Eli: Lani is a strong, strong, smart woman and a damn good cop. She doesn’t need me or her mother to tell her how to feel. I just wanted to come by and let you know I have her back. You mess with any other price woman, you’ll have to answer to me, you understand?

Tr: Perfectly.

Eli: Bet.

[Tense music]

Lani: Having ray show up at my door, it knocked me for a loop.

Abe: You know, if… if you wanna know more about mr. Coates, I understand. But I am not crazy about the idea, given what he did to paulina. So just be careful, okay?

Lani: I may be curious about ray, but that’s all it is. You are my dad, and you always will be. And I know that now.

[Emotional music]

Chad: So just before abby went missing listening, she tracked down this former dimera pilot who claimed he flew sarah out of town last year.

Kate: Yeah, she told me about that.

Chad: So the night abby disappeared, that same pilot flew out of a private airfield.

Kate: And that’s where you think abigail was headed, to confront sarah, whoever she is.

Chad: Can’t be a coincidence.

Kate: So what are you thinking?

Chad: I think abigail stumbled on to something with the whole sarah mystery. I think that pilot helped get rid of her.

Kate: Okay, so he must’ve filed a flight plan. Where did he go? Do you know where he went?

Kristen: Well, wherever sarah is, it’s not like she’s gonna go very far.

Abigail: So you admit you’ve been holding my cousin prisoner here on this island the whole time?

Kristen: Gold star for ms. Know-it-all. What the hell? You drugged me. I can’t believe you did that.

Abigail: What do you expect? You think because you give me tropical drinks with little umbrellas, I’m just gonna forget I’m a prisoner?

Kristen: Oh, my god. In all the time sarah’s been here, I mean, she never tried to drug me.

Abigail: Well, I’m sure it’s because she’s very grateful you kidnapped her and you brought her here against her will.

Kristen: See, sarah came willingly. In fact, she climbed into that suitcase.

Abigail: Why the hell would she do that?

Sarah: I still can’t believe my eyes. You really are here. Maybe I am dreaming.

Kayla: No, no, you’re not.

Sarah: Thank god ’cause I’ve been so lonely.

Kayla: I can’t even imagine what you’ve been through. Are you all right?

Sarah: Oh, I’m perfectly fine.

Kayla: Kristen didn’t hurt you?

Sarah: No.

Kayla: You can’t imagine how relieved I am to see you and that you’re looking so well.

Steve: You know what? I hate to break up this sweet reunion, but I think we need to get out of here before kristen gets back.

Sarah: And who might you be? This is the sound of nature breathing.

Steve: You don’t know who I am?

Sarah: No, should I?

Steve: I’m steve johnson. I’m kayla’s husband.

Sarah: You two are married?

Kayla: Yes.

Sarah: Well, that’s fantastic news, congratulations. When did this happen?

Steve: Well, we’ve been married a few times, but our most recent trip down the aisle was last year.

Kayla: You were my maid of honor.

Sarah: No, I wasn’T.

Steve: It’s true. You were in our wedding.

Sarah: Mm, I don’t think so. If I was in your wedding, I’d definitely remember that.

Abigail: Why would sarah willingly leave salem with you, hm? Were you trying to blackmail her? Tried to trick her somehow?

Kristen: Why does it matter?

Abigail: Fine. I’ll just go find sarah and see what she has to say.

Kristen: Wait. You want the scoop, lois lane? I’ll give it to you.

Gwen: Abigail’s disappearance? What are you talking about?

Jack: Abigail is missing.

Xander: Still? Chad came by here the other day looking for her. I just assumed they got their wires crossed or something.

Gwen: Yeah, this is the first time I’m hearing about it. I had no idea that abigail was missing.

Jack: Are you sure about that?

Chad: Unfortunately, the pilot didn’t file a flight plan so we have no record of where he could have gone.

Kate: Okay, well, did you check out the security cameras? That would give you a better idea of what happened.

Chad: Shawn looked into it. There’s no footage, so either the cameras weren’t working–

Kate: Yeah, or they erased the evidence.

Chad: All shawn’s got is that an airfield employee ided the pilot, but he says that he was alone. I’m positive though. He’s the key to finding abby.

Kate: Okay, so I assume that shawn is trying to track him down?

Chad: Now it’s just a waiting game.

Kate: Okay. Chad, look, I know that you are really horribly worried about abigail, and now is not the greatest time, I’m sorry, but since it’s about your brother–

Chad: Kate, don’T.

Kate: “Kate, don’t”? What does that mean? You don’t give a damn about the fact that you’re letting your brother go to prison for a crime he didn’t commit?

Clyde: Well, I was wondering when you might show up.

Ej: You’ve been keeping tabs on me, I’m flattered.

Clyde: Your trial was big news around here. Read all about how you kidnapped your wife and held her prisoner for months. I got to tell you, even by my standard, that’s pretty twisted.

Ej: I’m innocent.

Clyde: The judge didn’t seem to think so.

Ej: I was set up.

Clyde: Sure you were.

Ej: It’s the truth.

Clyde: Listen, first thing you gotta know is I ain’t no snitch, okay? So you can level with me, especially since you and I were one-time business associates, right?

Ej: I was your boss. And that was a long time ago. I never should have gotten mixed up in running drugs.

Clyde: No, it didn’t turn out too well for you, did it?

Ej: [Chuckles] Bit of an understatement considering it led to my supposed death

Clyde: Yet here you are, alive and well.

Ej: Mm-hmm, and you know one of my biggest regrets is that I never got to confront the son of a bitch who shot me. Migraine attacks?

Clyde: Sounds like you still hold a grudge.

Ej: Why wouldn’t I? I lost everything that night.

[Tense music]

Clyde: Exactly how much do you remember about that night, ej, about your shooting?

Chad: It’s so hard to keep up with you, kate. You know, one minute, you’re trying to talk me out of exonerating ej, and the next, you’re feeling guilty about about letting him take the fall.

Kate: Well, now that I know he’s staring at a ten-year sentence, I’ve landed squarely on feeling guilty.

Chad: Okay, then you know what, why don’t you go to the police and tell them that the real kidnapper is your son lucas? Yeah, I didn’t think so.

Kate: You know, you have a son, all right? Surely you understand me wanting to protect mine.

Chad: Up to a point, sure.

Kate: Oh, up to a point? Okay, so what point would you throw thomas under the bus? At what point would you divulge information that could ruin his life?

Chad: I hope I never have to make that decision.

Kate: Okay, so that’s not an answer.

Chad: I don’t foresee myself ever having to make that decision.

Kate: Oh, you don’t, huh? Oh, why, because your children are going to be perfect? They’re gonna be honest, honorable model citizens?

Chad: I sure as hell hope so, yeah.

Kate: You know something? We all hope so when they’re little. But then they become adults, and it’s a constantly lowering set of expectations because you can give them all the love in the world, and they are still gonna find a way to screw your life.

Chad: Okay, okay, I get it.

Kate: No, you don’t get it. You don’t get it. But somebody you will because someday, they’ll be adults, and they’ll make horrific mistakes, and there won’t be a damn thing you can do about it.

Chad: Right, and when I do or when abigail and I do, I should say, then you’ll be there to advise us, right? To make sure that first and foremost, we let our children get away with all these horrible mistakes that you’ve alluded to.

Kate: Oh, so that was really subtle, really subtle.

Chad: Okay, fine, you know what, I’m sorry. I’m sorry. That was uncalled for. It’s just, my wife is missing and I’m just a little bit on edge right now, okay?

Kate: Okay, I know, of course you are. And I’m sorry because I shouldn’t have been going on about all of this actually ’cause clearly you are worried. So just listen to me for a moment. You can continue with your plan claiming that you planted the evidence against ej. Just leave lucas out of it.

Chad: No, because then I will be charged with perjury, okay? And there’s no way in hell I’m gonna implicate myself to save ej after he forced himself on my wife.

Kate: I just think it’s wrong to make him suffer that much.

Chad: You know what? Hey, why don’t you think of the positive? Your guilty as hell son gets to gallivant around the world with the woman that he loves. Okay. I’m sorry. That was the last time. I won’t do it again. And you know what? My consciousness has been raised, and you’re right. If it were my son, I would protect him the exact same way you are protecting yours.

Kate: Well, thank you. I appreciate that. I do. I just wish I thought that roman would, you know.

Chad: He’s not up to it?

Kate: Not up to it. If he knew that I let sami gallivant around the world with her kidnapper, he’d never forgive me.

Chad: Well, you don’t want your son to go to prison, and I get that you don’T. You’re just gonna have to learn to live with it.

Tony: Live with what?

Xander: Jack, why are you suspicious of gwen? She just told you that she doesn’t know anything about this.

Jack: I spoke with chad. He told me that abigail was investigating sarah’s disappearance, and now abigail is missing as well. He’s convinced that the two things are connected.

Xander: What does that have to do with gwen though?

Jack: Chad said that abigail suspected that gwen was pretending to be sarah.

Xander: Well, did he also tell you that it’s a totally bogus accusation proven by the fact that when sarah was talking to abigail in the square, gwen ran into them, isn’t that right, love?

Gwen: Yes, that’s right. It was actually quite alarming ’cause abigail had this really strong grip on sarah. She was trying to rip off a mask, apparently trying to expose me. And so when she saw me standing there, she apologized to sarah and just walked off.

Xander: So abigail clearly had it wrong. Jack, I’m sorry abigail is missing, but whatever happened to her had nothing to do with gwen.

Abigail: So what, just like that, you’re just gonna tell me what happened with sarah?

Kristen: Why not? Who you going to blab it to? It’s not like you’re going ”

Steve: She remembers you, and abe, the hortons. She doesn’t know who I am or who she is.

Kayla: I know. It’s so strange, but who knows what kristen did her this year.

Steve: Maybe when we get her back to salem, it’ll trigger the rest of her memories.

Kayla: Possibly, but we just need to get off this island prison.

Ej: How long have you been here in statesville?

Clyde: Eight long years. Though I have managed to sneak in a few unofficial breaks here and there.

Ej: So you must be pretty keyed in to the inner workings of this place. Can I rely on you to show me the ropes?

Clyde: Least I could do for my old boss.

Ej: Who would’ve thought that after all these years, you and i would be sharing a cell.

Clyde: Talk about your strange bedfellow, huh?

Ej: Mm-hmm. Since you staked out the top bunk, I guess the bottom’s all mine.

Clyde: Holy cow. That poor bastard honest-to-god doesn’t remember how i double-crossed him. Hope it stays that way for his sake. The world is full of make or break moments.

Jack: Thank you, thank you. It means a lot to me, like I said. Wait a minute, look at that rock. Is there something you two aren’t telling me?

Gwen: Yes. Actually, we are engaged. Xander just gave me the ring before you arrived.

Jack: Oh. And I put a big damper on the whole celebration. I’m so sorry.

Jack: It’s clear you two are very much in love. And I’m glad that my daughter has you to look after her.

Chad: What do you know about ned grainger?

Tony: Well, whenever anna and I used the corporate jet, we always requested ned ’cause he was a professional, congenial man. Actually, we got to know each other quite well.

Chad: Do you know how to find him?

Tony: I know he had a little bungalow down in key west.

Chad: Tell me you have that address.

Tony: Not exactly, but I do–well, I’m familiar with the vicinity.

Kate: Would you recognize the house if you saw it?

Tony: Yeah, yes. Because he actually had us over for dinner during a layover one night. Cooked lobster for us.

Chad: Okay, you and i need to go down to key west as soon as possible.

Kate: You should call shawn first.

Chad: I’ll give him a heads-up, but I’m not leaving this up to the cops, not when abigail’s life depends on it.

Kristen: Well, let’s just say sarah was high enough after she was injected that she thought I was xander.

Abigail: That happened to me, too. My mind kept mixing people up. I mean, I actually thought chad was ben at one point.

Kristen: I mean, her hallucination actually worked to my advantage. See as xander, I was able to get her into the suitcase, tell her that we were escaping kristen and that we were gonna get married on a deserted island.

Abigail: So that’s what you meant when you said she went with you willingly.

Kristen: Mm-hmm. And she couldn’t get in there fast enough.

Abigail: I gotta say I just–I would not be okay if it weren’t for the fact that I had intensive therapy and took medication. If sarah hasn’t seen a professional, she’s gotta be a mess.

Kristen: Actually, she’s doing quite well now.

Sarah: Look what I found.

Steve: Wow, this is great.

Sarah: I’ve dreamed of this day for so long, and it could really be happening. If we go out far enough that we can flag down a ship, then I can finally get back to the man that I love. I’ve missed him beyond all reason.

Kayla: Well, he’s been so worried about you, too.

Sarah: You’ve seen him?

Steve: Well, before we left salem, he tried to hire my agency to come search for you.

Sarah: So he hasn’t forgotten me?

Steve: Of course not.

Sarah: There’s not a day, not an hour has gone by that I don’t think of him. His dark hair and his soulful eyes and that voice. I do love his deep sexy voice.

Kayla: Well, you’re clearly still in love with xander.

Sarah: Who’s xander? This is the sound of nature breathing.

Ej: Far cry from the sheets back home.

Clyde: Hey, just a tip. Don’t talk about your extravagant lifestyle out in gen pop. They’re not gonna find it so endearing.

Ej: Got it. I do hope I can trust you, clyde, because I’m going to need someone to have my back around here.

Clyde: Oh, you have no idea.

Kayla: You don’t remember xander either?

Sarah: I don’t think so. Is it with a z or an x?

Steve: Xander was your fiancé. You almost married him.

Jack: Have you set a date for the wedding?

Gwen: Might have to catch my breath.

Xander: But soon, I hope, and we’re counting on you, and jennifer, and abigail being there. I have no doubt in my mind abigail will be found by then, mate.

Jack: Right, right, well, I better give jennifer a call and give her an update, let her know what’s going on.

Gwen: Keep us posted.

Jack: Oh, I will, I will.

Gwen: Okay.

Jack: Trust me, okay. Congratulations, you two, again.

Gwen: Dad, I do hope that you find abigail soon.

Jack: We will, and when I find out who did this, I swear to you, I swear to god, I will make them pay.

Abigail: Does sarah still thinks she’s married to xander? Does she think she’s living happily ever after with him on this island?

Kristen: Ah, well, no. I mean, sarah has moved past that phase.

Abigail: What do you mean?

Kristen: Well, let’s just say that she’s not hung up on xander anymore.

Sarah: I don’t know what’s going on here, but I can assure you I’ve never been engaged to a xander.

Kayla: But what about the dark hair and the soulful eyes?

Steve: Sexy voice?

Sarah: I was talking about tony.

Steve: You’re in love with tony?

Kayla: Dimera?

Sarah: Is there another?

Tony: I must say these are hardly the circumstances under which i imagined seeing ned again.

Chad: Let’s get to the airfield.

Kate: No, no, wait, you just can’t go off and confront this man; he could be dangerous.

Chad: I’m not waiting for the cops and their protocols.

Tony: I’m with chad on this. And I think it will help because I’m friendly with ned. I think I can get him to cooperate.

Chad: And if tony can’t convince him, I will. I’ll call the jet and have them fuel it up.

Tony: We’re gonna find abigail. We’re gonna bring her home to you and to your children.

Steve: You’re in love with tony dimera?

Sarah: Don’t sound surprised. I mean, I know we’ve had our ups and downs, but tony’s the love of my life.

Steve: Maybe she thinks she’s anna.

Sarah: Anna fredricks? How could you possibly confuse me with that scheming bitch?

Gwen: Uh-huh, bling?

Xander: Mean, you’re on the right track.

Gwen: Ding?

Xander: In a sense.

Gwen: Oh, my god. Ring, ring. You’re gonna get me an engagement ring.

Xander: Ding, ding, ding, ding. Well, to be precise, I’m gonna begin the process of window shopping for an engagement ring. So yeah, if you have any hints you wanna drop, now would be the appropriate time.

Gwen: Oh, my god, xander. You are so, so sweet and so utterly charming, but we don’t have any money for a really nice ring. I swear I don’t need anything fancy.

Xander: You deserve it. You deserve the fanciest ring on the planet.

Gwen: Okay. I won’t fight you on it.

Xander: I won’t be long. Try and stay of trouble while I’m gone.

Ej: Ironic, isn’t it? That of all the crimes I’ve committed in my life, here I am about to be locked up for the one I did not.

Belle: Well, I’ve already filed the papers to get the appeal rolling.

Ej: At least now I understand why chad changed his mind about testifying on my behalf. But what I don’t understand is why he so certain he saw me kissing abigail at the courthouse when I never went near her.

Belle: Doesn’t make sense.

Ej: If only I could just see him and then explain–

Belle: Oh no, no, no. You don’t wanna do that. He’s got a lot going on with abigail right now.

Ej: What do you mean?

Belle: Well, shawn got a call from chad last night. He got a text–ostensibly from abigail–saying she went to boston to visit her parents.

Ej: And?

Belle: And someone else must have sent that because abigail never went to boston. And now she’s vanished without a trace.

Chad: It’s like finding a needle in a 300-mile haystack. You could be anywhere, but I’m not giving up, abby. I will find you, whatever it takes.

[Soft music]

[Crash]

Kayla: Oh!

Steve: What the hell was that?

Kayla: I think someone slammed the door. Were you sleeping, too?

Steve: Sorry, baby. I shouldn’t have dosed off like that.

Kayla: It’s understandable. You were clobbered on the head, and kristen drugged you.

Steve: And I can’t tell if it’s day or night.

Kayla: Was this here before?

Steve: What? No, maybe she snuck in here while we were sleeping.

Kayla: Well, at least she brought us some provisions.

Steve: And a few other things.

[Cell phone rings]

Kristen: Hello?

[Cell phone rings] Damn it, abigail was right. The cops are closing in.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Shawn: Hey, uncle steve, it’s me. I know brady hired you to look for kristen; I’m sure you’re hot on her trail.

Kristen: Very hot.

Shawn: I’m calling because abigail went missing yesterday, and we have reason to believe kristen is involved. But brady says he hasn’t heard from you lately, so please give me a call when you get this.

Abigail: I told you they’d be looking for me.

[Cell phone beeps]

[Soft music]

Gwen: Here we go.

[Cell phone beeps] “Kristen or whoever you are, I know you have my wife, and you’ve disabled tracking on her phone. Please have some compassion. She’s a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister. I’m begging you. I’ll do anything you want. Just please, let her come home to her family.”

Xander: Stop being so sentimental. Sarah is never coming back to you. And the only way you can afford to buy gwen an engagement ring is to sell this one.

[Tense music]

Sarah: Why can’t the man I love whisk me away on the back of a stallion? Or at least a raft.

Belle: Chad thinks that kristen might have had something to do with abigail’s disappearance.

Ej: Why would my sister kidnap abigail?

Belle: Well, apparently abigail was on the trail of what happened to sarah, and that led her to kristen. I mean, honestly I stopped trying to figure out kristen’s motivations.

Ej: Well, if she did have something to do with abigail’s disappearance, chad should find some comfort.

Belle: Why do you say that?

Ej: Because abigail is a dimera. Family first and all that. Kristen won’t hurt her. We may stab one another in the back figuratively, but never literally.

Belle: Never?

Ej: Well, there was that one time with poor benjy. And renee. But both those incidents were andre’s fault.

Belle: Well, I do hope that kristen has abigail because shawn said that steve and kayla were on her trail. And if anyone can find kristen dimera, it’s them.

Kayla: Let’s see, you know, when it comes to kidnapping, kristen sure provides a1 service.

Steve: She’s had experience.

Kayla: Look at this, three different options for sweetener for our coffee.

Steve: So thoughtful of her.

Kayla: And look at this, our driver’s licenses.

Steve: Yeah, too bad there’s no place to drive to.

Kayla: Excellent point.

Steve: I can tell you right now, she didn’t return my phone.

Kayla: Well, you probably wouldn’t have cell service here, anyway.

Steve: Oh, whoa, whoa. What are you doing? You can’t eat that.

Kayla: Why not? It looks fresh.

Steve: It could have drugs or poison in it.

Kayla: I’m starving. The last time I ate anything was one of the communion wafers that I snuck at the convent. And that was days ago. I mean, aren’t you hungry?

Steve: Yeah, but not hungry enough to risk being poisoned.

Kayla: You know, I’m willing to take the chance. Thank you.

Abigail: Must be stressful feeling those walls just closing in on you. Like I said, just a matter of time.

Kristen: And like I said, if anyone comes looking for you, my house has plenty of rooms.

Abigail: Is that really what you want? You want a house full of kidnapping victims?

Kristen: No, I want to be left alone. I mean, if people would just mind their own damn business, none of this would be happening.

Abigail: So I found a whole wing of the house that’s locked off. What’s in there, sarah? My aunt kayla and uncle steve?

Kristen: No, my bedroom. And I have the only key. No offense, abigail, but I didn’t wanna wake up in the middle of the night with you looming over me.

Abigail: You can’t keep us here forever, you know?

Kristen: I wouldn’t be so sure about that.

[Tense music]

Chad: “I’m sorry, but I can’t help you.” That’s it. That’s it? I’m sorry? “Whoever you are, if you harm one hair on my wife’s head, I will find you. And I will kill you. I do not care if you are family.” Send.

Shawn: Whoa, what’s going on?

Gwen: Sorry, chad, but I can’t do anything to help abigail now. So bugger off.

Chad: What, too strong?

Shawn: I don’t think it’s very helpful.

Chad: Well, I need whoever it is to know that they’re not getting away with this.

Shawn: You should have let the police be the one to reach out to abigail’s kidnappers.

Chad: What does it matter? They’re not gonna tell me where abby is anyway.

Shawn: We’ve been trained to handle situations like this. We could have worked out a strategy.

Chad: Strategy, okay. Tell me what your strategy is to bringing my wife home.

Shawn: I went back to the airstrip, and I interviewed all personnel that were working yesterday, and also I tried get a look at the security footage.

Chad: And?

Shawn: And it’s gone. Somebody was covering their tracks.

Chad: Why am I not surprised?

Shawn: I left a message for my uncle steve. Brady hired him to try to track down kristen, hoping that maybe she’ll have some information on philip’s disappearance.

Chad: Okay, what else?

Shawn: I’m still waiting to hear back from him.

Chad: So then what do we do now besides wait?

Shawn: Well, can you think of anyone else who might know where to find kristen?

Chad: Actually, maybe I can.

[Knocking on door]

Gwen: Oh, my god. Coming, coming. Get in there, get in there, get in there. Oh. Coming, I’m coming.

[Tense music]

Maggie: Gwen, is everything all right?

Gwen: Maggie. Yes, everything’s fine.

Maggie: I thought I heard some pounding.

Gwen: Pounding? No, no, I was just trying to call the housekeeping, and the bloody line just doesn’t work. So if you are here to see xander, you’ve actually just–you’ve missed him. But I can take a message for you.

Maggie: Oh no. Actually, I just wanted to see how he was doing after…

Gwen: After sarah turned up and kicked him to the curb again.

Maggie: Well, yes, it must have been very painful for him.

Gwen: Actually, I’m very happy to report that he is doing very well.

Maggie: Really?

Gwen: Really. Turns out that him running into sarah could have been the best thing that could have happened to him.

Maggie: Why would you say that?

Gwen: Because he has finally put sarah in his rear view mirror, and he has decided to move on. In fact, he’s just proposed to me.

[Soft music]

Xander: I’m on my knees, unemployed, apparently unengaged, I’m not really in a cake kind of place–

Sarah: Can you just open the damn box?

Xander: Well, this is really weird.

Sarah: Well, will you? Oh, my god. The most romantic thing I’ve ever read.

Kristen: You barely touched anything I’ve given you since you’ve been here. What, are you on a hunger strike?

Abigail: No, I just don’t really care to be poisoned again, thank you very much.

Kristen: Abigail, I’m not gonna drug you.

Abigail: Why would I trust anything that you say?

Kristen: Well, because the alternative is to starve.

Abigail: No, the alternative is for you to let me go.

Kristen: Can I just make a point? See, if you would have minded your own business, you would be home with my brother and your two beautiful children right now.

Abigail: You are blaming me for getting abducted, okay.

Kristen: All right, see, I see you looking at the phone. Oh, my god, abigail, you can’t help yourself.

Abigail: What are you doing?

Kristen: Well, you can’t be too safe, hm?

Abigail: Look, what was I supposed to do? Sarah’s my cousin, okay? And reporting’s not just my job, it’s in my blood, sort of like kidnapping seems to be in yours.

Kristen: I was adopted, and you know that.

Abigail: Okay, so you were raised to be a kidnapper.

Abigail: Well, I just–i went out exploring the property, the part you let me see, anyway, and I found some old sleeping pills in a medicine cabinet, and I am very happy to see they’re not expired.

Abigail: Yep, yeah. And let me just say, I wouldn’t slip a foreign substance into just anyone’s drink, given my own personal, unfortunate circumstance. But you, you, I felt deserved a little taste of your own medicine, so to speak.

Kristen: So you put it in there and then–

Abigail: Yeah, yeah, and i wasn’t sure how much I’d be able to get you to consume, so I put enough in there to tranquilize a horse. Quite frankly I’m surprised you’re still upright.

Abigail: That’s more like it.

Maggie: Well, my daughter has flaws, we all do. But she’s a very kind and caring person. And despite everything that happened between her and xander, I know how much xander meant to her. But for her to behave like that toward him, it was just–it was out of character, to say the least.

Gwen: Well, perhaps she’s changed since she left salem.

Maggie: Yes. Yes, honestly, she hasn’t been acting like herself since the day she took off.

Xander: Gwen, you’re dressed. That’s a shame. Maggie, hello. What are you doing here?

Maggie: Victor has very strong reservations about putting an outsider, someone out of the family, in charge of his company. I’m–I’m afraid making gabi ceo of titan just may be off the table. Is that a dealbreaker?

Gabi: Sure as hell is.

Johnny as jake: Absolutely not.

Maggie: Really?

Johnny as jake: Mm-hmm.

Maggie: I thought making gabi ceo of titan was one of your conditions.

Johnny as jake: It was, but I wouldn’t want something like that to sour the deal. As long as I’m made ceo of dimera enterprises, I got everything I want.

[Unsettling music]

Ava: Not fast enough, but it’ll do.

Jake: What are you so happy about?

Nicole: What time are you talking to the lawyer? Great. Hopefully she has a strategy that to get the charges thrown out. Ava: Yeah, I did say that I suspected they might be more than friends.

Tripp: Mm-hmm, but the way you went on about it, you know, I wasn’t sure if you were talking about me and allie, or you and rafe.

Ava: I know you asked me that question, and the truth is, you were probably right. Rafe and I were going through some stuff, and I should not have projected it onto you.

Tripp: What kind of stuff? Were you afraid that he has feeling for someone else?

Ava: It doesn’t matter. I figured out a way to work through it. And I think allie is a great girl. I am always gonna be an overprotective mama, but I see that she makes you happy, and that’s all I could ever hope for. I want nothing but the best for you.

Tripp: Same, mom. Same.

Jake: Gabi? Johnny?

[Sighs] Where the hell are they?

[Sighs]

Johnny: Gabi? Hey, are you okay?

Gabi: Do I look okay?

Johnny: You look upset.

Gabi: Oh, why would i be upset? Oh, maybe because the man that I’ve been with for almost a year, the man who claims to love me, just threw me outta the bus.

Johnny: What did jake do?

Gabi: What did he do? He just put a knife between my shoulder blades. That’s what he did.

Johnny: Just tell– tell me everything. What happened?

Gabi: I went over to see maggie. He was already there, so I hung back to listen. He didn’t know I was listening. And, you know, he was talking about the plan on how we’re gonna get victor on the board at dimera.

Johnny: Yeah. That’s part of the plan, right? Soften victor up for the kill.

Gabi: That was the plan. But then, maggie said that victor could not have me be the ceo of titan. And jake, you know what he said? He said that would be no problem, that it was not a dealbreaker.

Johnny: Are you serious? He said that?

Gabi: Yeah, he said that as long as he got what he wanted, he had no trouble handling me.

Johnny: That double-dealing bastard.

Paulina: You spoke to tr coates? When?

Chanel: This morning. He stopped by the bakery. He told allie and me that he’s holding us to our contracts.

Paulina: And my name came up?

Chanel: Yeah, he was saying how he knows you from back in the day.

Paulina: Oh, yeah? What else did he say?

Chanel: Uh, that he bumped into you yesterday. Oh, and that he met lani too.

Paulina: What about her?

Chanel: I don’t know what she told him, but he thought that she was my cousin.

Paulina: And what did you say to that?

Chanel: I told him that he was mixed up and that she’s my sister.

Paulina: Oh, no.

Chanel: Mama, what is it?

Lani: You’re ray? Hmm. Paulina’s told me all about you.

Tr: Listen, lani–

Lani: You need to get away from me. Do you hear me?

Tr: I know from what you’ve heard, you have every reason to be afraid–

Lani: You need to leave this apartment, now.

Tr: I’m sure paulina has said all kind of terrible things about me.

Tripp: Yeah, so I was gonna ask allie’s parents in person for their blessing, but they’re out of town and I can’t get ahold of them.

Ava: Well, you will.

Tripp: But I figured that asking her grandfather was the next best thing.

Ava: And what did roman have to say?

Tripp: He said he was thrilled for us, and he wholeheartedly gave his blessing.

Ava: Of course he did because he knows that he could not ask for a better grandson-in-law. You are caring and a very loving man. And you’re a doctor. You’re gonna be a wonderful, wonderful father to henry.

Tripp: I really hope so. I– I love that little guy so much.

Ava: Having you in his life, I know he’s gonna grow to be an incredible man.

Tripp: Thank you for saying that.

Ava: Yeah. So when are you gonna pop up the question?

Tripp: Oh, well, was thinking about valentine’s day.

Ava: That’s very romantic.

Tripp: Yes, but not if i can’t find the right ring.

Ava: You haven’t bought one yet?

Tripp: Not yet. No, as a brand-new doctor, you know, I barely take home enough to make my loan payments. So I’m still trying to figure out what I can afford.

Johnny: It’s no wonder you’re so upset. And it’s one thing to be betrayed by your business partner, but when you’re sleeping with him too…

Gabi: He told me he loved me. How could he? I never thought he could do something like this.

Johnny: Beyond his type, I never fully trusted the guy.

Gabi: I did. You know what ironic? This morning, he told me he was worried about you.

Johnny: A second-rate dimera, so busy trying to prove himself that he can’t appreciate everything you bring to the table. Your business acumen. Your intellect. Not to mention your complete willingness to go for the throat. Jake is lucky to have you as a business partner. And if he can’t see that, then he doesn’t deserve you.

Gabi: You know what, you’re right. Yes. Yes. He does not deserve me, that backstabbing creep. I’m gonna tell him right now.

Johnny: No, gabi. Wait, wait. Hey. Maybe you shouldn’T.

Paulina: You told tr coates that lani’s your sister?

Chanel: Yeah. What is the big deal? It’s all out in the open now, isn’t it?

Chanel: But what? I mean, what does it matter if some random stranger knows the truth? Mama?

Paulina: Go home right now.

Paulina: You heard me. Go home right now and pack your bag.

Lani: Why would I want anything to do with you?

Lani: No. All these years, I didn’t know paulina was my mother. They told me she was my aunt. Her sister raised me as her own.

Lani: Because of you! Because she was so afraid of you, afraid that if you even found out that I existed, that you would never leave her alone– that you would keep threatening her, abusing her. And her worst fear was that if you found out that I was your daughter, that you would do the same thing to me. And then you come waltzing in here, telling me about all the self-help work you’ve done on yourself. And what? What? You just expect me to run into your arms? Call you daddy? Huh?

Tr: Please, lani. I realize I’m a stranger to you and everything you’ve been told makes you want to turn and run the other way, but I swear to you, I’m a changed man. And I just want to get to know my daughter. We’re eating and drinking foods and beverages

Jake: Gabi? Johnny?

[Sighs] Where are they?

Gabi: Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t confront that bastard right now?

Johnny: Look, you can do what you want, but if it were me, I wouldn’t be so quick to throw away my advantage.

Gabi: My advantage?

Johnny: You saw jake for who he really is. And I can’t imagine how much it must have hurt to hear him talking that way, but maybe honestly, it’s good that you did, ’cause now, you have the upper hand.

Gabi: So you think I should keep acting as dumb as jake thinks I am?

Johnny: Exactly. Let him think he’s the only one playing both sides. He does still have his shares, doesn’t he?

Gabi: For now.

Johnny: So why don’t we work behind his back to relieve him of them?

Gabi: Turnabout is fair play.

Johnny: You have the element of surprise. And you have something he doesn’t: Me. I think we could do great things together, gabi. Run this town. Maybe even shake up the whole world.

Gabi: All right, let’s do it. Let’s take everything.

Johnny: Yeah. Let’S.

Gabi: I will be in touch.

Ava: Knew I was saving this for a reason.

[Tender music]

Tripp: Mom, this is– this is beautiful.

Ava: Mm. It was my grandmother’S. And she gave it to me when I was a little girl, right before she died. My grandfather gave it to her when he proposed to her. Look at what the inscription says.

Tripp: “Amore mio.”

Ava: Mm. That’s what allie is. She’s your amore.

Tripp: Mom, this is amazing, but I–I can’t take this.

Ava: Why not? It is a family heirloom. That was your great-grandmother’S. Come on, it’s not like I’ve got a daughter I’m gonna pass it down to.

Tripp: Are you sure?

Ava: Of course. Nothing would make me happier than to see my future daughter-in-law with that on her finger.

Tripp: I–I can’t wait to give it to her. Thank you so much, mom.

Ava: Aw, baby, you don’t have to thank me. I am just–I’m so happy that you found someone who loves you as much as I do.

Allie: Hey.

Chanel: Hey.

Allie: I brought some extra chowder.

Chanel: Oh, I’m not hungry, but thank you.

Allie: You okay?

Chanel: I don’t know. Can we talk?

Allie: Yeah. Yeah, of course. Come on. What’s going on?

Chanel: Well, I might need you to cover me at the bakery for a while.

Allie: How come?

Chanel: My mom was just here, and she wants me to go to miami with her.

Allie: What? When?

Chanel: Now. Like–like right now.

Allie: Really? Are you gonna go?

Chanel: At first, I didn’t want to, but now I’m thinking it might be a good idea to get away and put some distance between me and this whole terrible situation with johnny and the divorce and…other things.

Allie: Other things. Like sleeping with me?

Tr: Lani, I know how complicated this situation is.

Lani: No, it’s not complicated at all. You are not my father. I already have a father, and he is the best man that I know.

Tr: Look, I am happy to hear that, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t get to know each other. We can take the first steps now, today.

Paulina: Get the hell away from her! Avoiding triggers, but can’t keep migraine attacks away?

Paulina: You heard me. Stay the hell away from my daughter!

Tr: Oh, so you’re admitting she is your daughter.

Paulina: Did I not make myself clear? Get outta here now!

Paulina: She is nothing to you, and she never will be!

Tr: All right. I know I missed a lot of years and I will never be able to get those back, but I’m gonna do whatever I have to do to be a father to you now. That’s a promise.

Jake: Oh, well I stopped by ben’s new place to see him. I stopped back at home, ran into ava. You weren’t there. Like I said, been looking for you.

Jake: Well, I’m here now.

Gabi: Hmm, busy day.

Jake: Yeah.

Tripp: Are you sure you’re okay with me taking this ring? I mean, what if you want it for yourself?

Ava: Oh, you don’t have to worry about that.

Tripp: Yeah, but I mean, a cop salary can’t be much more than a new doctor, so I mean–

Ava: Okay, I said you don’t have to worry about that.

Tripp: Are you okay?

Ava: Listen.

[Chuckles dryly] My love life has been spotty, to say the least, and I’ve been hurt more times than I can even count, but I still believe in happily ever after. I love you.

[Sighs] We could have had our happily ever after, but you threw it all away. And now, you’ll have to pay for that.

Chanel: I wasn’t talking about what happened between us, horton.

Allie: Are you sure?

Chanel: I am. Yeah. Yeah, I just meant between my divorce and this movie, and I really need to get away from johnny. But I promise you, that this isn’t about us sleeping together.

Tripp: Well, you know, I only do it for the doughnuts. It’s got nothing to do with spending a little extra time with you or anything.

Allie: Oh, no. My illusions are shattered.

Tripp: That’s good, ’cause you’re gonna be hearing it for the rest of your life.

Allie: That’s fine by me.

Tr: Salem has a certain amount of charm. I’m ginning to think we can shoot the whole movie on location, interiors and everything. Maybe I can even get the real marlena evans to do an unbilled cameo. Oh, I’m absolutely serious. We’re calling the movie “possessed: The marlena evans story,” right? So what could be better than shooting it where it actually happened? Oh, you assume correctly. I won’t be leaving this town anytime soon.

Paulina: You cannot blow this. You’ve been working your whole life to make sure that lani doesn’t go anywhere near ray coates. Now, here he is, in salem. You go in there. You do whatever it takes to make sure he never finds out he has a daughter.

Lani: Ah, a-ha, okay. I just need to get them into their snowsuits, their scarves, their hats. That should take about an hour and a half. Okay.

[Knocking on door] Paulina.

Paulina: Pack your bags, baby. We are done freezing our behinds off. We’re going south for the winter.

Jake: You’re really quiet this morning.

Gabi: I’m worried about rafe.

Jake: Rafe is one of the most honest guys I know. These charges? They’re not gonna stick.

Gabi: I hope you’re right.

[Cell phone beeps]

Jake: That phone. It’s blowing up this morning. Who is that?

Gabi: Johnny dimera. Who do you think?

Jake: Well, little twerp’s persistent.

Gabi: He wants me to go over to his place. He thinks we need to talk.

Johnny: About to work out. Why don’t you join me? We can do some heavy breathing together.

[Cell phone beeps]

[Knocking on door] Oh, did you come here to beg me to take you back?

Chanel: I wouldn’t lower myself to do a thing like that.

Johnny: Then what do you want?

Chanel: I brought you something.

Johnny: Aw, you shouldn’t have.

Chanel: Oh, it’s my pleasure.

[Tense music]

Johnny: Are these divorce papers?

Chanel: Beat you to it, didn’t I? My lawyer said I didn’t have to give them to you myself, but I wanted the satisfaction of saying, john roman dimera, you have just been served.

Johnny: You think you’re gonna get this much money from me?

Chanel: It’s called spousal support, and yeah. I do.

Johnny: We were married for, like, two days.

Chanel: So? You have dimera enterprises, and I have a bakery. And you were so hot to get married that you didn’t make me sign a prenup, so my lawyer says I can take you for a lot.

Johnny: You know, my dad was right about you. You just married me for my money.

Chanel: I married you for love, and you know it. And then you treated me like dirt, so you had your fun, but now, it’s gonna cost you.

Jake: Let me see your phone. There are no secrets between us, right?

Chanel: Right.

Jake: [Laughs] I thought the dude was supposed to have some sort of fancy education. There’s hardly any words here. It’s all emojis and smileys, the little devil guy.

Gabi: That’s how people his age communicate.

Jake: Well, I especially like this last one about how you two should get sweaty together. The big man talking about his workout.

Gabi: See you later.

Jake: Where are you going?

Gabi: Where do you think I’m going? I’m gonna go close the deal with that little devil. Doesn’t mean what he thinks it means.

Jake: So wait a minute. If johnny gets what he wants, he’s gonna get you in a bed, and you’re gonna be running titan. And with ej in jail, all he’s gotta do is freeze chad out, and he can run dimera enterprises himself. And where does that leave me, huh? Here with nothing.

Gabi: Stop pouting, jake. Johnny is not gonna get his way, okay?

Tripp: I can’t wait to get off work, so we can pick up where we left off.

Allie: I can’t wait either, and, tripp, I’ve been thinking. You know what, never mind.

Tripp: Come on, come on. What were you gonna say?

Allie: Just that I’ve been feeling a little guilty lately, like I’ve been distracted sometimes, when we’re together I mean. I just haven’t been connecting with you as much as usual.

Tripp: I haven’t noticed that.

Allie: Really?

Tripp: I mean, I guess sometimes I sense that you’ve got your mind on work or what happened between chanel and johnny, but I don’t expect you to be focused on me all the time.

Allie: I know, I know that, and I don’t expect that of you either. Just, I feel like, even if you’re not focused on me all the time, you’re still there for me 100% and for henry.

Tripp: Well you and henry, you’re the most important people in my life.

Allie: You’re important to me, too, tripp, and henry, but I’m sure you know that, ’cause you must notice how he lights up every time you walk in the room and how you make him laugh.

Tripp: Yeah, except when he wanted to play with my phone, and I had to take it away from him, and he screamed his head off.

Allie: Okay, but then you calmed him down in what, like ten seconds? And he was smiling again.

Tripp: Making him smile. That is my favorite pastime. Allie, what are you thinking about?

Allie: Just that you are the kindest, most caring person I’ve ever known. I’m really grateful to have you in my life.

Tripp: I am beyond grateful to have you in mine, and although I’m obviously not henry’s dad, I love him so much. I really look forward to, you know, throwing a ball with him, maybe coach his little league team one day.

Allie: You would make an amazing coach, not to mention a great dad, which you already kind of are, to henry I mean.

Tripp: I do hope that he thinks of me that way.

Allie: I know he does, and now I know you need to go, so henry and I will be waiting for you.

Tripp: I’m a lucky guy. See you later.

Tr: Excuse me.

Allie: Oh, hi.

Tr: I need to talk to chanel dupree. It’s important.

Lani: You always make these big announcements, and I have no idea what you’re talking about.

Paulina: Well, this is my first winter up north in a long time, and I’m just sick to death of it. And I was watching the weather report this morning, and they said some groundhog saw his shadow, and we’re in for six more weeks of this garbage.

Lani: Yes, I know. I have two toddlers who get very cranky, if they don’t go to the park every day.

Paulina: So why stay here when I have this big, huge, and fabulous house sitting empty in miami? You don’t even have to pack little jules and carver’s things. I’ve already bought enough. Everything they–

Lani: What, you’ve already brought them clothes?

Paulina: Mm-hmm, what’s wrong with that? They’re my grandbabies.

Lani: Okay. I know what you’re doing.

Paulina: I’m not sure I know what you mean.

Lani: Don’t play dumb with me. You and I, we had a moment.

Paulina: I’ll never forget it. That chandelier started to fall on me, and you screamed out, “mom!” Oh, you saved my life.

Lani: And here you are trying to get us all to go to florida with you.

Paulina: What’s wrong with that?

Paulina: Well, he’s visiting valerie.

Paulina: Oh, we can figure that all out.

Allie: Chanel’s usually here by now actually. I don’t know what’s keeping her, but I work here with her, and I’m her best friend. Is there anything I can help you with?

Tr: This isn’t about the bakery.

Chanel: I just got back from seeing your pig of a brother.

Chanel: Me, why?

Tr: My name is tr coates. So you’re chanel dupree.

Chanel: That’s right, and how can I help you, mr. Coates?

Tr: Well, you can start by calling me tr.

Tr: I’m here to talk to you about your role in “possessed.”

Chanel: Why?

Tr: Because I’m the guy who’s producing it. I made the deal with johnny dimera.

Ben: What’s going on?

Jake: Your know, your cross is hanging upside-down.

Ben: Oh, what the hell? It keeps doing that. It must be, like, top heavy or something. Anyway, come on in.

Jake: Guess you can’t be too careful. The devil was after your baby.

Ben: Yeah, thank god that’s all over now.

Gabi: I know I’m not supposed to be eavesdropping, but were you two talking about me? Life’s been hard enough.

Gabi: So this was your workout, chatting it up with your dead grandfather?

Johnny: Did you know him well?

Gabi: We crossed paths a few times.

Gabi: He didn’t give off a warm and fuzzy vibe, at least not around me, but I did admire the way he sold himself as a businessman. I mean, when I knew he had the heart of a mob boss.

Johnny: Well, I’m sure that if he were still around, he would return the admiration.

Gabi: I doubt it.

Johnny: I assume you’re here to talk about my dimera shares.

Gabi: I have news. Maggie is representing victor in all of this, and jake and I have a deal with her.

Johnny: What are the terms?

Gabi: We vote victor onto the board of dimera, and then he makes me ceo of titan.

Johnny: Well, I see what you get. I see what victor gets. What I don’t see is, well, what’s in it for me?

Jake: Nice new digs. It’s an improvement from that place over the garage.

Ben: We got a baby coming.

Jake: Yeah.

Ben: Can’t have the kid breathing in fumes all day long, right? Not to mention this is a bigger space, so we got the room now for a nursery.

Jake: That’s good. Well, you need help painting or fixing the place up, say the word.

Ben: I was already counting on that.

Jake: All right.

Ben: So what’s going on? Are you gonna tell me who this creep is you think that’s going after gabi?

Jake: Johnny dimera.

Ben: Him?

Jake: Yeah, you know him?

Ben: Yeah. I just met him yesterday. He was the one who dropped the cross off from julie. You think he’s going after gabi?

Jake: I know he is. Dude already dumped his wife.

Chanel: Yeah, I don’t think johnny still wants me in his movie.

Allie: Yeah, and why would chanel want to be in a movie made by some soulless cretin?

Tr: Come on. Do you even know johnny?

Tr: You’re playing your mother when she was your age.

Chanel: And what pitch is that?

Tr: That you’re both under contract to my production company. If you don’t fulfill your contractual obligations, I will sue you and win.

Allie: Okay, go for it, ’cause there’s no way in hell–

Chanel: That either of us is gonna do that damn movie.

Tripp: Mr. Brady.

Roman: Tripp, how you doing?

Tripp: I’m fine, I’m fine. I was wondering if you had heard from allie’s folks.

Roman: Not a word, but wouldn’t expect to.

Tripp: They’re together, right?

Roman: Yeah, yeah. After what sami went through, I think they’re lying low. Is there a problem?

Tripp: No, no, not a problem. You know, just kind of like to do things by the book.

Roman: Okay, good for you.

Tripp: Yeah, and I’m also a little scared of allie’s mom.

Roman: Well, sami does have that effect on a lot of people.

Tripp: Yes, and she doesn’t like to be left out of things.

Roman: Uh-huh. You mind telling me what things you’re talking about?

Tripp: Well, I, uh… I love allie, sir, and I’m gonna ask her to marry me. Like pulsing, electric shocks,

Roman: Oh, okay. This is–I’m surprised.

Tripp: Not me. No. I think I fell in love with her the first time I ever saw her at that club in london. You know, she was a little too wasted to really see me, but I brought her home, put her to bed, and left her my phone number. And I hoped that we can start something good that next day, but then she never called, and we both know why.

Roman: Right.

Tripp: You know, but we came through all of that, and, you know, getting to the bottom of it, I never stopped loving her. And I love henry, too, you know. I come home from work, and, like, he just breaks out in this big grin, and I mean there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for them, mr. Brady. I want to take care of allie and henry for the rest of my life.

Roman: Okay, all right. Well, you know what, tripp? You’ve told me a lot about how you feel, but how does allie feel?

Tripp: She says she loves me. She acts like she does.

Roman: Be sure about that before you start talking marriage. I just don’t want to see you two make a big mistake.

Tr: I understand johnny broke your heart.

Chanel: Was that what he told you?

Tr: No. I heard that from your mother.

Chanel: And how do you know her?

Tr: Paulina and i go way back. I knew your mama when you were just a twinkle in her big, brown eyes. I’m very sorry about your father.

Chanel: You knew him, too?

Tr: No, sadly, I never had the pleasure.

Chanel: I miss him.

Tr: I’m sure you do, but i did meet your cousin though.

Chanel: What cousin?

Tr: Lani grant.

Chanel: Oh, no. You got the wrong information. Lani’s not my cousin. She’s my sister.

Lani: Excuse me? Are you telling me what to do?

Paulina: No. It’s not about me. It’s about big mama.

Lani: What, is she okay?

Paulina: I know she didn’t want me to tell you, but she hasn’t been feeling well.

Lani: Is it serious?

Paulina: No. I think she’s just lonely, but she would love to see you and the babies, but I don’t want her coming up here where it’s so cold. So I told her I’d do whatever it takes to get you and the kids down there, just for a couple of weeks, and perfect timing, eli’s–since he’s away.

Lani: No, I can’T. Look, I cannot leave town right now. I made a promise to someone that I would be here for her.

Paulina: And who’s that?

Lani: Chanel. Her heart is broken, and she needs someone to talk to until she can put her life back together. And that someone is going to be me.

Ben: Johnny dimera had a wife?

Jake: Well, he did, for about two days, and then he kicked her to the curb, started sniffing around gabi.

Ben: How did that happen?

Jake: All right, so after I got booted out of dimera, I took a job with titan with gabi. She and I both got fired from titan, and we got sick of sitting on the sidelines.

Ben: What does that have to do with johnny?

Jake: I’m getting there. So gabi still thinks that she has some pull with victor, ’cause he wants to hang onto her company, right? Victor also wants a seat on the dimera board, so we’re hoping that we have enough votes to put him there.

Ben: You want to put victor kiriakis on the board of dimera enterprises? Isn’t that like putting the fox on the board of the henhouse?

Jake: Well, gabi seems to think that it would benefit both of us, right, because here. The plan is for gabi to be in charge of titan, and I’m back in charge of dimera.

Ben: But you don’t have enough votes to get victor on the board.

Jake: Unless we get johnny to vote our way, right, so johnny’s got his shares. He’s also got ej’s shares now.

Ben: Mm-hmm, and I heard ej’s doing a little bit at statesville.

Jake: Right, so johnny has what gabi needs, and he’s made it very clear what he wants in return.

Ben: So what’s gabi gonna do?

Jake: Well, she’s convinced that she can use that to make him do what we want.

Ben: How about you? Convinced?

Gabi: Uh-uh. Not in front of him.

Johnny: Well, there’s no pictures upstairs.

Gabi: I thought you were smart enough to play the long game.

Johnny: I’ll play any game you want.

Gabi: Come on, just stop it. I don’t like to be pressured into doing things I don’t want to do.

Johnny: Is that really the case though? ‘Cause it kind of feels like you’re keeping you from doing things that you do want to do.

Gabi: I told you, jake and I, we are exclusive.

Johnny: Why? ‘Cause I was raised by my grandfather and my father to take over dimera enterprises. Jake was raised to be a grease monkey. He’s dead weight, you know it.

Gabi: And what does that make me?

Johnny: Well, what you lack in pedigree you make up for with brains, drive. What do you and I need jake for? For rob, it took years to find out

Jake: Gabi’s over at the dimera house talking with johnny right now.

Ben: Alone?

Jake: Yeah, he keeps calling her over there to talk business.

Ben: Without you?

Jake: I don’t like this plan of hers.

Ben: I wouldn’t like it either, brother.

Jake: You know, gabi and I, we worked so hard, together, to get everything we have, but this plan of hers? I don’t trust johnny dimera as far as I can throw a grand piano.

Ben: Hey, screw johnny. All that matters is that you can trust gabi, right?

Gabi: Jake’s not a poor relation. He has his own shares.

Johnny: Then leverage your many assets. Get him to turn ’em over to you.

Gabi: If you think this whole divide and conquer thing is gonna work–

Johnny: This whole scheme was jake’s idea, wasn’t it? See, he can’t stop obsessing about being booted out of a family he was never good enough to be a part of. He doesn’t care about titan. He probably doesn’t care about you.

Gabi: Don’t you dare say that.

Johnny: Come on. The guy has a singular goal of trying to worm his way back into dimera, so he can take a bite out of the apple. He’s using you to do that, and once he’s done, he’s not gonna need you anymore.

Gabi: You’re just too spoiled to understand what jake and I have, okay? We’re not entitled like you are. We know what it feels like to come from nothing, and we have a future. And he would never–

Johnny: I’m not the only one who wants to screw you. You better start watching your back.

Tripp: Sir, I would never push allie into marrying me.

Roman: I’m not saying that. No. You know how you said about seeing allie in the bar and how drunk she was? Well, allie, and johnny, and sydney, they were on their own way too soon because sami was devoting herself to ej. Now, johnny thought he wanted to get married, too, and you saw what he ended up doing to poor chanel.

Tripp: I’m not like johnny.

Roman: I know that. I’m just saying it’s never a good idea to rush into anything.

Tr: Lani? She’s your sister?

Chanel: My half-sister.

Tr: You had the same father?

Chanel: The same mother.

Tr: Paulina is lani’s mother. Huh, I had no idea.

Chanel: Yeah, I just found out myself.

Paulina: For the record, I had chanel years after we split with my husband george.

Tr: Is she your one and only?

Paulina: Yes, she is.

Allie: Excuse me, but what does this have to do with whether or not we do the movie?

Lani: I promised chanel that she could come over every night while eli is away. She’s gonna help me with jules and carver. Then we’ll watch tv, drink some wine, and just talk.

Paulina: It means so much to me that you want to be a real sister to chanel.

Lani: So you understand why I cannot go to miami with you.

Paulina: Well, you know, chanel, she’s doing a lot better. Right now, she’s fixing to give the devil his due. Young johnny dimera, oh, he is going to pay for all the pain and suffering that he caused her, and she knows I have her back.

Lani: I just can’t leave her here all alone.

Paulina: Then why leave her here?

Lani: What?

Paulina: I’ll go and talk to her. Get allie to run that bakery for a while. We’ll take her with us. You, me, and big mama, we’ll all see to chanel. Come on, what do you say?

Lani: I guess I can ask for the time off.

Paulina: So you’re going?

Lani: If I get the time.

Paulina: Oh! Oh, you don’t know how much this will mean to big mama.

Lani: I might be crazy. The last time I let you drag me down there, I almost got shot.

Paulina: Well, you’ll be safer there than you are here.

Lani: What does that mean?

Paulina: Well, you know big mama. She’ll get even if she doesn’t get what she wants. Look, you go, and you get yourself packed, and get the twins packed and everything, and then I’ll go tell chanel the plan. And then we’ll all be headed off to the airport. By the time we get back, ray coates will be gone, and lani never has to know anything about him.

Allie: Excuse me? Mr. Coates, I asked you a question.

Tr: I just misunderstood what your mother told me. That’s all. I have another appointment.

Allie: I just want to make sure you understand. You can sue us or whatever, but there’s no way that we’re doing that movie.

Tr: I’m sure we’ll be able to work something out.

Allie: Did that seem as weird to you as it seemed to me?

Chanel: Yeah. He was ready to sue us–

Allie: And then he just dropped it like a hot rock.

Chanel: Thanks for backing me up.

Allie: Dupree, you know I always will.

Tripp: Mr. Brady, I’m not your grandson.

Roman: Meaning I can’t tell you what to do?

Tripp: Meaning I would never treat allie the way johnny would treat chanel.

Roman: I know that. It’s just that, you know, allie already has a baby she didn’t ask for.

Tripp: That is working out, okay, she’s a fantastic mom.

Roman: Yes she is, but if she is not ready for marriage, you need to respect that.

Tripp: I will. Sir, I give you my word. I will never hurt allie in any way. And she’s learned to trust me, and she’s given me her heart, and I’ve trusted her with mine. I mean, isn’t that what love’s all about?

Jake: Yeah, yeah. Of course I trust gabi. I mean what we have goes way beyond this deal, but what I will say is sometimes gabi has a tendency to underestimate people, you know?

Ben: Yeah. Ciara says johnny’s a player. Gabi is way out of his league, brother, right?

Jake: Yeah. Still, man, something about johnny bugs me. You know, back when I ran with the mob, right, I could look a guy in the eye, and I could see that his evil, most of the time, came from weakness, right? Came from having a rough childhood like you and I had, and you know, a series of other bad breaks along the way, right? So they had to toughen up because they were afraid of losing what they had worked so freaking hard to get.

Ben: Mm-hmm.

Jake: But then there were the other guys. The guys who were just flat-out mean, evil, right? They would play like they had nothing to lose. Those were the guys that scared me, and I think johnny’s one of those guys.

Ben: He is a dimera.

Jake: Dude, so am I.

Ben: As long as you and gabi stick together, you’re gonna come out on top, all right?

Gabi: I trust jake. I believe in him.

Johnny: Well, I think, any day now, jake is gonna give you a good reason to question your trust in him.

Gabi: You’re just talking. You don’t know–

Johnny: I know you, gabriella, and I think you and I are at the beginning of a very exciting partnership. And as a sign of good faith, I promise to vote my shares and my father’s shares in favor of giving victor kiriakis a seat on the board.

Gabi: That is great. That is great!

Johnny: Who are you calling?

Gabi: Your uncle jake, of course–can you give that back to me?

Johnny: Why would you want to call jake?

Gabi: I don’t think right now is a good time to have your uncle questioning my loyalty to him, do you?

Johnny: No.

Gabi: Great, thank you. This thing is dead. I charged it this morning.

Johnny: Maybe it can’t hold a charge. Guess you’ll have to catch up with jake later.

Gabi: Yes. I guess I’ll do that after i share the news with maggie. You’re not gonna regret this, johnny, I promise.

Johnny: Oh, I know I won’t, but you and uncle jake on the other hand, different story. I guess I better go change. Oh, sometimes I love my life. Avoiding triggers, but can’t keep migraine attacks away?

Roman: Well, tripp, look. I can’t speak for allie’s parents, but for what it’s worth, you two have my blessing.

Tripp: It’s worth a lot, sir.

Roman: All right, you’re a good man, tripp johnson. The apple did not fall too far from the tree.

Allie: I thought you had to be at work early.

Tripp: Hey, well, I just remembered that I needed to ask your granddad if he had heard anything from dad or kayla. What are you doing here?

Allie: I’m just grabbing an early lunch.

Tripp: Oh, okay, well, I’ll see you at home tonight?

Allie: Yeah, I’ll see you. Bye. What was that all about?

Roman: Well, he told you. He wanted to talk about steve and kayla, so usual?

Allie: Sure.

Roman: Okay.

Chanel: Hi, mama.

Paulina: Oh. Oh, I see that smile. Oh, well, what’s that about?

Chanel: Me serving johnny with divorce papers. Going after his money.

Paulina: Yeah, that’s good. That’s real good. I need to talk to you about something.

Chanel: Wait until you try these butterscotch oatmeal cookies that I came up with. They are to die for.

Paulina: Oh, yeah, well, I’ll take a dozen of ’em. Then you pack ’em up for me, and then go pack a suitcase.

Chanel: Wait, what?

Paulina: I’m serious. You, me, your sister, your little niece and nephew, we are all getting out of town today.

[Knocking on door]

Lani: You back already? Mr. Coates. What are you doing here?

Jake: Thanks for listening, bro.

Ben: Of course, man. Of course. I hate what chad and ej did to you, brother. It’s not fair, and I really do hope you’re gonna end up getting back exactly what’s yours.

Jake: Hope so, man. Hey, at least I’m not going it alone though, you know?

Ben: Yeah.

Jake: I get to do this with somebody I love and care about. Gabi and me? We make a good team.

Ben: Yeah, you do. Take care, man.

Jake: You too. When I come back to help you fix the place up, I’m hanging that damn thing up right. Hell, it’s upside-down again.

[Tense music]

Johnny as jake: Gabi and i are very close to securing victor a seat on the dimera board. Gabi’s with johnny right now. She’s nailing down his votes.

Maggie: Ooh, victor will be very pleased to hear that.

Johnny as jake: And just one more thing, if you wouldn’t mind talking to victor about it. I would like a guarantee, in writing, that I will be elected ceo of dimera after we take over.

Maggie: Well, I will talk to him about that.

Johnny as jake: And now, let’s talk about titan.

Maggie: Yes, victor has very serious reservations about putting someone outside of the family in charge of his company. I’m afraid making gabi ceo of titan, it may be off the table. Is that a dealbreaker?

Gabi: It sure as hell is.

Johnny as jake: Absolutely not.

Julie: Who are you? And what are you doing in my house?

Craig: Nancy, we need to go someplace where I can talk privately.

Nancy: I have nothing to say to you–you know what, why don’t you just call your little floozy and ask her to pop open the champagne, because you have finally gotten rid of the old ball and chain?

Chloe: Dad, you said you’d tell her.

Craig: I tried to, but she dumped a bowl of clam chowder on my lap and stormed off before I could get it all out.

Nancy: Get all what out? My husband is cheating, my marriage is over–what else could there possibly be? Obviously you two know something I don’T. Now, which one of you is gonna tell me about it?

Kristen: I thought you might like some dessert. Would you like some peach pie?

Abigail: You can choke on your pie, kristen.

Kristen: [Laughs] Well, you don’t have to get snippy about it. I would let go if I were you.

Abigail: No. Not until you tell me what you did to my uncle steve and aunt kayla.

Kristen: What do you think I did to them? Earlier you were droning on about being a dimera. And how do dimeras eliminate problems?

Abigail: Oh my god. You killed them.

Ciara: Home? Baby, I know what our home looks like, and this is not our home.

Ben: Well, I should have said our new home. Because I’ve been looking at apartments for a while now, and this is the best one yet.

Ciara: You’ve been looking for an apartment without me?

Ben: Well, I wanted to surprise you. Looking at apartments can be stressful, and I think you’ve had enough of that going on already, so I narrowed it down to my top three favorites, and then I asked julie to come take a look at them, and we decided together that this is the best one.

Ciara: Yeah, but ben, I love our apartment.

Ben: But we got a baby coming.

Ciara: Really? Hmm, well, I must have just forgotten about that part then, huh?

Ben: You know what I mean. We’re gonna need more room. I mean, think about it. I mean, maybe we could squeeze in a crib at most, but what about everything else? What about all the other baby paraphernalia–the diapers and the toy boxes and… the diapers.

Ciara: The diapers.

Ben: The diapers.

Ciara: Okay, listen, our baby isn’t gonna need all that fancy stuff–just the essentials.

Ben: Ciara.

Ciara: Mm-hmm.

Ben: You’re a brady and a horton.

Ciara: You’re right.

Ben: I am right. And we are not buying all that stuff. Your family is buying all that stuff.

Ciara: Oh my god, we’re not gonna need a bigger apartment, ben, we’re gonna need a warehouse.

Ben: Mm-hmm. So then maybe I can show you around a bit. Because in the words of our real estate agent, the second bedroom over here is crying out to be a nursery.

Johnny: You don’t recognize me?

Julie: Stay back!

Johnny: Julie, it’s me. Johnny dimera.

Julie: Oh. So it is.

Johnny: So…what’s with the broomstick?

Julie: You broke into my house.

Johnny: I’ve scared you. I’m so sorry. I didn’t–

Julie: I’m sure being raised a dimera, you were told that you do not have to obey the common decency laws of behavior, but you were misled. You do not just walk into somebody’s house.

Johnny: You’re right. It’s a-it’s a real problem of mine. You know, when-when I get obsessed about these ideas, I start turning them around in my head, and all of a sudden I just forget what I’m doing. I really am really sorry.

Julie: Really? When these obsessions are going around and around in your head, do you go into any random building? Do you have a reason for walking into this house?

Johnny: [Chuckles] Actually, I did have a reason. I was, uh, I was wanting to talk to doug.

Julie: Talk to doug about what?

Johnny: Well, I wanted to talk to someone else who knows what it’s like to have the devil inside him.

Craig: Nancy, we need to talk privately. Can we please just go back to our room?

Nancy: It’s my room, buster!

Chloe: Mom, please just calm down.

Nancy: I do not need to calm down! And I do not need to go back to our room and talk privately. Looks like you know what’s going on, and he knows what’s going on. And you know what, I dumped clam chowder in your father’s lap at the pub, so if salem is still salem, in about 20 minutes, the entire town is going to know… that you broke our marriage vows. So, what is there to talk privately about? Wait, did you shag my best friend? Ooh, maybe it was the tramp at the reunion. You know, you need to stop, craig, with that “we need to talk in private” and just be straight with me!

Craig: I will, but not with an audience. I’m going back to the room.

Chloe: Mom, please, he’s trying to do the right thing. Just go be with him.

Nancy: What in the name of god did I do to deserve this?

Kristen: No, I didn’t kill them. I simply…neutralized them. See, they didn’t give me a choice. They were sticking their noses into my business.

Abigail: You know, there are people who think the right to privacy doesn’t extend to kidnapping.

Kristen: And they were humiliating themselves in the process, and, pfft, the two of them were galivanting around rome dressed as a priest and a nun, and they were thought they were play acting, but ironically they really are now living a celibate and cloistered life.

Abigail: Meaning?

Kristen: I mean, I always thought they were skittish. Maybe they found some peace.

Abigail: Are they here on this island?

Kristen: Oh my god, dear, dear abigail, you really need to curb your journalistic impulses. I mean, honey, you don’t wanna meet the same fate they did.

Kayla: What the hell have you done now, kristen?

Nancy: Just… just yesterday, craig, we were in that bed together, and I thought I was the happiest woman in the world. No, I was the happiest woman in the world. Because I didn’t know who you were or what you had done. I was just a happy, ignorant fool.

Craig: I’m sorry, nancy. I’m so sorry that I hurt you. You’re the most wonderful woman in the world. I would–

Nancy: Just stop it, craig. Just stop. I do not want to hear how wonderful I am, and I especially don’t want to hear about how much pain you’re going through or how much this hurts you, and how hard it is on you.

Craig: You’re right. You’re right. Of course.

[Small laugh] I’ve been such a coward.

Nancy: Oh my god. I think I wanted–I think I know why you wanted me to come back here and be alone with me. Oh, craig, you want to tell me that it was all a big mistake, right? That you really don’t love her. That you want my forgiveness. And that you’re never gonna see her again, right? Isn’t that what you want to tell me, craig?

Julie: What are you saying to me?

Johnny: Well, it turns out that the movie I was planning to make is back on, and since now doug has gone through the same thing my grandma marlena went through–

Julie: You know, johnny, it was really nice of you to visit with us when you got back from italy and lovely when you dropped by at christmas. And doug is so appreciative of the flowers and the cards you sent when he was in the hospital.

Johnny: I, uh–

Julie: Right, you never did any of those things. You’ve never bothered with us at all. And now you want to talk to my husband, who’s been through hell… to find out what hell is like. I suppose to make money off of his suffering, off your grandmother’s suffering.

Johnny: Well, I talked to her and she’s fine with it.

Julie: Well, god bless marlena, and good luck to her. I’m not fine with it. You’re really turning out to be sami’s little boy, aren’t you? Combining your father’s arrogance with your mother’s towering insensitivity!

Johnny: Oh my god, I… I offended you. I didn’t mean to. I mean, you’re right about me. I am all those things you said. I’m sorry, really sorry. I…I do everything wrong. I am like them.

Julie: You’re just young and stupid. I was in the same place myself, as I dimly recall.

Johnny: Look, can I… can I just step back outside, knock on the door again, and start over, and this time not act like a jerk?

Julie: Another-another time, johnny. I’m really on my way out now. I’m busy. I am going to take a housewarming gift to ben and ciara.

Johnny: Really? They’re, uh, they’re moving?

Julie: Yeah. Well, they have a new baby on the way. Of course, with everything that has been happening, I want them to be sure they have this, and to put it right outside their new home.

Johnny: I’m sorry, do you smell smoke?

Julie: No. No, nothing’s on.

[Rapid beeping]

Johnny: Sounds like it’s coming from the kitchen.

Julie: My god, you’re right! My god!

[Beeping continues]

Johnny: [Sighs]

[Beeping stops] Oh. This must have set her back 4, 5 bucks.

Ben: So, we could make the room that’s next to the nursery into a home office, if you decided that you wanted to work from home.

Ciara: Okay, but aren’t we jumping the gun a little bit here? I mean, why pay rent for a more expensive place before we even need it?

Ben: Because you are in your second trimester, and this baby is gonna be here before we know it. So, at least if we move in now, give us a little time, fix some things up, and we won’t be under so much pressure.

Ciara: I guess.

Ben: Hmm. But we do need to act fast, because we’re not the only ones interested in this place.

Ciara: Oh, okay.

Ben: Look at this place.

Ciara: What did you just tell me about “no pressure”?

Ben: Good point.

Ciara: Yeah.

Ben: I love this place. I do. But we are not moving in here unless you love it too. So what do you say?

Abigail: What fate did they meet? You still haven’t told me.

Kristen: I told you everything you need to know. I did not kill them.

Abigail: So you said. But where are they? What did you do to them? Because I found steve’s eye patch and their driver’s licenses stashed over there in that drawer, so they’ve got to be somewhere here on the island.

Kayla: You killed him? You killed him? You–you bitch!

Kristen: Let go of me, you lunatic!

[Gunshot]

[Clattering]

[Both shouting] Damn it, kayla! The nuns are gonna be here any second. Oh god, what the hell am I gonna do with you?

Kayla: Steve. Did kristen really kill you? Where are you?

Kristen: You do know that your evidence doesn’t prove that they’re here. So, if you’re not gonna take my word for it, then go look for yourself, hmm?

Ciara: Well… I do like the layout. And it would be kind of fun fixing this place up.

Ciara: Yeah. When–when would we sign the lease?

Ben: I already did.

Ben: Baby, it’s the first of the month–I had to move quick. Other people wanted this place. I didn’t want to lose it. What? Look, I made the landlady agree that she would tear up that damn lease if my wife didn’t absolutely love it. But since you do, legally, we could spend the night here.

[Both giggling] If we really wanted to. So, what do you think, mrs. Weston?

Ciara: Oh god. I say yes.

Ben: [Whispers] She said yes.

Julie: There was a fire on top of my stove!

Johnny: Whew! Well, thank god for the smoke alarm.

Julie: Yeah, well, thank god for my trusty fire extinguisher. But it doesn’t make any sense. I mean, I never turned that stove on.

Johnny: Ooh, that means it’s malfunctioning. Now, I don’t mean to be an alarmist, but you want someone to look at that right away. I mean, imagine if it happened again in the middle of the night, say.

Julie: Suppose you’re right. But I really think I need to get that cross over to ben and ciara.

Johnny: Why don’t you let me take it over to them? I’d like to do something to get back in your good graces.

Julie: You wouldn’t mind?

Johnny: Nah, wouldn’t mind at all. All I need is their new address.

Craig: I can’t ask you to forgive me.

Steve: Can’t believe you’re here.

Kayla: I was so scared. What happened?

Steve: [Mutters] Kristen. She showed up at our hotel room in rome. She had a gun. She said you were fine, but I didn’t know what she’d done to you.

Kayla: I don’t even know what happened. I don’t even know where we are. She drugged me, I guess. I just woke up a few minutes ago.

Steve: So did I. Last thing I remember, I was trying to get the gun away from kristen, and she must have knocked me out and drugged me somehow. I-I-I woke up, I was in that trunk.

Kayla: What is this place?

Steve: Let’s see. There are supplies. There’s bottled water, flashlights, emergency kit. Some kind of an alarm on that wall over there. Here we go.

Kayla: Look at this. There’s lanterns and there’s-there’s hurricane safety pamphlets.

Steve: This must be some kind of storm shelter. I bet we’re on an island.

Kayla: I’ll bet you it’s not bali ha’I.

Abigail: You’re trying to scare me.

Kristen: No, abigail, I’m just giving you fair warning. It is a jungle out there. I love saying that, because it’s literally true. But you saw for yourself when you left before.

Abigail: Cameras?

Kristen: Well, yeah. I mean, I don’t want the servants to pinch the silver. Oh, wait, there are no servants. There’s no one out there to help you. See, we are on an island in the middle of an ocean. I mean, you can go out there and play robinson crusoe, make a raft, paddle away. But you’re not the first to try. See, most die in the jungle before they ever see the water. And the ones that do get that far, well, I mean, they just are dashed up on the rocks. You see, abigail, this really isn’t a beach of your dreams.

Craig: I can’t expect you to understand.

Nancy: I understand perfectly. You married me, craig, knowing you were attracted to men. I married you because I loved you. It never occurred to me to ask, “is there anything that you’re keeping from me, hon? Like you’re gay?”

Johnny: Yeah, uh… julie sent a hammer and nails with me, so I think she wants this thing up asap outside.

Johnny: And I think that this baby is going to have one protective father.

Kristen: Well, I’m not smug. I’m self-assured.

Abigail: Let me ask you this. Did you happen to send chad a text saying “don’t worry about me, I’m fine”? Thought so. So, turns out, on the very same day that you decided I needed a little sea air here, I told chad everything that you had done to kate, and mentioned you’d done the exact same thing to sarah. So, how long do you think it’ll be before he figures out that I didn’t just voluntarily leave him and my children?

Kristen: Oh, he’ll figure it out eventually.

Abigail: He will. He won’t stop until he finds me.

Kristen: Oh, well, this is finally property. He’s welcome at any time. So, abigail, darling, why don’t you just sit, relax, rest, and let me get you a drink.

Abigail: No.

Kristen: Okay, fine. Fine. So, nighty-night, and don’t let the bedbugs or tarantulas bite.

Steve: You know, kristen thought that xander had hired me to look for sarah horton. But when I told her it was about philip, she tried to cover, but she looked relieved. And xander was convinced that sarah didn’t leave salem on her own volition.

Steve: Maybe. I’d like to know just how many salemites are on this island.

Chloe: Brady.

Brady: Yeah.

Craig: A few months.

Nancy: And after a few months, you know you’re in love with him? Craig, how can that be?

Craig: Because he’S… he’s changed everything for me, nancy. He’s helped me face things that I’ve-I’ve spent my entire life trying not to face. And for the first time in my life, I know who I am, nancy. And I can’t go back to living the way I was. I just can’T. And that’s why… you’re the most–

Nancy: Just stop! Just stop it right there. I do not want to hear another word out of your mouth. Because now it’s my turn. Avoiding triggers, but can’t keep migraine attacks away?

Craig: Nancy, I’m sorry. I’m sorry.

Nancy: I don’t care how sorry you are! You know what, I can’t really stand to look at you anymore. I want you to leave, because our marriage is over. It’s dead. And craig, you are dead to me too. Now, get out of here–I can’t look at you one more second.

Craig: Nancy.

[Sobbing]

Abigail: I’m not gonna just sit around here and do nothing. I’m gonna find uncle steve and aunt kayla. And when I do, we are all getting the hell out of here.

Kayla: So, you think sarah’s here too?

Steve: I don’t know for sure. But I have a feeling we’re not alone on this island. We need to get out of this place and find out who else is here.

Kayla: I’m ready if you are.

Ben: Whoa, wait a second.

Ciara: What? What’s wrong?

Ben: Nothing. Just…this.

[Eerie off-key notes]

Demon johnny: “Oh, just this.” [Scoffs] And they talk about the banality of evil.

Ciara: Oh, I am gonna have to call grandma julie first thing in the morning and thank her.

Ben: It was so nice of her.

Ciara: Yeah. And so like her. To want to bless our baby, bless us, bless our home, and keep us all safe.

Chad: Jennifer, that doesn’t make any sense. Abigail texted me last night and said that she was headed to boston because there was an emergency with the newspaper, and you and jack needed her help to sort it out. So there’s no emergency?

[Tense music]

Abigail: Come on, kristen, I know that sarah’s here. That’s what you meant when you said that this place is still serving its purpose. You stash all of your kidnapping victims here.

Kristen: Has anyone ever told you that you’re quite annoying? You’re like a mosquito with a press pass.

Abigail: Just tell me where sarah is. People back home are worried sick about her, especially xander.

Gwen: Where are you going?

Xander: [Sighs] Gwen rizczech.

Gwen: What are you doing?

Xander: Gwen, I know I don’t deserve a woman like you, someone so strong, and loyal, and so beautiful. But would you take pity on this poor, pathetic, completely naked scoundrel and grant me the honor of becoming my wife?

Gwen: Don’t you talk about yourself like that.

Xander: Could you please just answer the question?

Gwen: No.

Abigail: You had sarah shipped here after she figured out that you were pretending to be susan banks. And you’ve kept her here ever since, why?

Kristen: Well, aren’t you clever, hm? Wasn’t it euripides who said, “cleverness is not wisdom”?

Abigail: Compared to everything else you’ve done, imitating susan banks is like jaywalking. I mean, you are going to prison no matter what. Sarah never did anything to hurt you; she doesn’t deserve this.

Kristen: Oh, my god! I’m gonna ask you nicely to just shut up, god! You are getting on my nerves. Oh, you know what, abigail, I need you to just mind your own damn business.

[Phone ringing]

Abigail: Aren’t you gonna get that?

[Phone ringing]

[Line trilling]

Brady: Come on, steve, pick up. Please tell me you found kristen.

Craig: Ah, great. Liquid courage.

Chloe: You can do this, dad. You have to do this.

Craig: I don’t think i can, chloe.

Chloe: Well, it certainly can’t come from me. Dad, you have to tell mom you’re gay.

[Soft orchestration]

Craig: It’s not accurate.

Chloe: Not accurate? What does that mean?

Craig: Chloe, I never said I was gay.

Chloe: You said that you’re in love with a man. The terminology doesn’t matter. Mom has to know. She has a right to know. And it has to come from you.

Nancy: Ah, there you two are. Oh, you both look so serious. Is everything okay?

Chloe: Yeah, actually, I was just about to go.

Nancy: No, no, look, honey, I know that I came here because of a terrible, terrible reason, but I think a higher power wanted me here.

Chloe: Why do you think that?

Nancy: Well, after that debacle with philip kiriakis, I knew you were in crisis. Honey, he can stay missing for the rest of life quite frankly, but your father and I are here because we were meant to be to help you get back together with brady.

Chloe: Mom, listen, this is not the–

Nancy: No, no. I’m gonna call brady and tell him to meet us for dinner tonight at the pub. And nothing too la-di-da, I think. Maybe we can just have that tomorrow night, you know, a little candlelight and–

Chloe: Mom, mom, just stop, please. I will call brady, okay? And you two go to dinner, and brady and I will meet you there for coffee and desserts.

Nancy: Okay, I know. We’re gonna just give you a little alone time.

Chloe: Well, I was thinking of giving you two some alone time. Dad has something he needs to talk to you about.

Nancy: He does?

Craig: Yeah, I do, I do. And it’s important.

Nancy: Oh, I know what it is. I know what it is. You’re finally gonna take me on that cruise to iceland. Oh, before everything melts. You know, it’s gonna be so fabulous. Come on, craig, let’s go.

Craig: Okay. Here goes everything.

Chloe: Good luck, dad.

Craig: Luck has nothing to do with this. I need a lot more.

[Soft music]

Roman: You look pretty intense.

Kate: Ej was just sentenced to ten years in statesville.

Roman: Good. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.

Kate: I guess.

Roman: You guess? He kidnapped sami. He deserves 20 years.

Kate: I know what lucas did was misguided, but you can’t say anything.

Chad: Misguided? He locked up sami for three months. Now she’s traveling the world with her kidnapper. I think that deserves a word a little stronger than misguided. Criminal, sociopathic?

Kate: Okay, just stop. All right, stop. Ej and I were close once.

Roman: Don’t remind me. As far as I’m concerned, you and sami are both a lot better off out of that nest of dimera vipers. And now sami and lucas are together and so are we. And I hope ej’s new cellmate has been lonely for a long time.

Kate: Okay, well, I’m gonna get going. I’m going to go see to see how chad’s doing.

Roman: What’s gotten into her?

Gwen: Don’t be upset, okay?

Xander: Don’t be upset? You just turned me down flat.

Gwen: Xander, I can’t marry you, and you really don’t want to marry me.

Xander: Of course I want to marry you; why else would I get down on one knee, naked as a jaybird? It’s you who doesn’t want to marry me. It’s because of sarah, isn’t it?

[Phone ringing]

Abigail: Don’t you think it’s a little rude after everything that ava’s done for you to just not answer her call? Or maybe it’s not ava.

Kristen: No.

Abigail: Maybe it was the dimera pilot calling, asking for more money because he knows xander and i are onto him. Maybe he was calling to tell you just how much of victor’s money maggie is willing to pay to find out where he flew you and sarah.

Kristen: All right, you know what, abigail? You realize I do have a gun.

Abigail: How much time do you think you have, kristen? Wasn’t it also euripides who said, “do not use the same plot over, and over, and over, and over again. Folks are gonna catch on”?

Kristen: Oh, my god! Don’t push your luck with all these questions.

Abigail: Where is sarah?

[Dramatic music]

Kate: What’s going on with abigail now?

Chad: She’s gone missing.

Abigail: I want to know what you’ve done with sarah.

Kristen: If you don’t shut up on your own, I do have the means to do it for you.

Abigail: Have you forgotten that my last name is also dimera?

Kristen: You married a dimera, abigail. That doesn’t mean you are one.

Abigail: It does to chad. If you lay so much as a finger on me, he will hunt you to the ends of the earth, not to mention how brady would feel about that.

Brady: Hey, hey. Why are we meeting here? I thought we were gonna meet at the club for a dinner with your folks.

Chloe: Well, I wanted to give them some time alone to talk.

Brady: About what?

Chloe: My dad is having an affair.

[Sighs]

Brady: Chloe, I thought it was a misunderstanding.

Chloe: Nope. He’s been cheating on her. But that’s not the whole story.

Nancy: Thank you, sweetheart. I’m telling you, craig, this place is like it’s stuck in time. You know, this morning at breakfast, I could swear that, at any moment, caroline brady was gonna come out of that kitchen.

Craig: Hm?

Nancy: Are you okay? You look awful.

Craig: Yeah, um, you know, can we maybe go somewhere else, some place just a little more private?

Nancy: Oh, no, honey, no. We told chloe that we were gonna meet her and brady here.

Roman: All right. Specials are on the left, but I’m sorry, we’re out of the cod.

Nancy: Wait, roman! It’s nancy and craig.

Craig: You don’t need to tell him that.

Nancy: Oh, roman. I hope you’re not still holding a grudge, are you?

Roman: Let’s just say I don’t feel real warm towards people who use my daughter like you two did just to get ahead at work.

Craig: Okay. Maybe we should go.

Nancy: No, no. Roman, we are sorry about that. But I do understand if you can’t let it go. My kids mean the world to me, too. How is carrie? Is she happy?

Roman: She and austin are very happy.

Nancy: I’m glad, and sami?

Roman: Sami’s good, too.

Nancy: Great, you know, as parents, we are only as happy as our unhappiest child. And well, we know how you feel. We’re here to support chloe too because, well, brady is trying to put her back together again. I mean, she has been through the wringer this year.

Roman: Yes, yes, she has.

Nancy: But brady and chloe are joining us for dessert a little later. We want her to have, like, a normal family life, like the first day of the rest of her life, and–I know that sounds dumb.

Roman: No, no, it doesn’T. I’m sure chloe will love it. So welcome back. And dessert’s on the house.

Nancy: Oh, thank you, roman. Wait, honey. Do you still have that fabulous clam chowder?

Roman: Of course we do.

Nancy: We’ll have two orders, please.

Roman: Okay, you got it.

Craig: Thanks.

Nancy: You know, craig, under that rough exterior, roman really is a sweet guy. I mean, in a weird sort of way, he kind of reminds me of you.

Craig: Really?

Nancy: Okay, honey, he’s not as handsome as you, but, you know, he’s sweet, but he’s tough, and he’s strong, and he shoots from the hip. But he’s still a sweet man. He loves his kids. He loves his family. And well, he’s a real man. You know what I mean? Like you. Life’s been hard enough.

Kate: So the dimera pilot said someone called sarah horton paid him to fly her and an enormous suitcase out of salem. And then last month, kristen somehow finds out that abigail and xander are searching for sarah, and she conjures up a sarah, fake sarah, so they’ll call off the hunt.

Chad: That was abigail’s theory.

Kate: I think it’s true because it sounds just like kristen. I mean, and there are parallels. I mean, it happened to me. She kidnapped me, she put on a kate mask, she breaks up with jake. And then if what abigail says is true, she kidnapped sarah, and she put on a sarah mask, and then she broke up with xander and then ends up at the airport with a body-sized suitcase.

Chad: God, I’m so stupid. I sat in this room, and I listened to abigail tell me what happened to you. And I just went and read the kids a story. I’m an idiot.

Kate: Stop, stop. Don’t beat yourself up.

Chad: Don’t beat myself up? Abigail told me she didn’t think the person that her, maggie, and xander talked to was sarah, that fake sarah went to the airport. I’m just like, “hey, don’t worry about it, let’s have dinner.” Like abigail’s gonna sit at home and do nothing when she thinks kristen kidnapped sarah. No, of course, she’s gonna go to the airport. Why didn’t I go with her?

Kate: Because the whole thing just sounds preposterous. That’s why. I mean, it happened to me, chad, and I still don’t believe it. All right? I’m sorry.

Chad: If kristen hurts abigail–

Kate: Don’t go there. Don’t even go there.

Chad: Where is she? And where the hell is sarah?

Sarah: I can’t read anymore. I’ve read so much, my eyes are gonna bleed. How many hours have I stared out that damn window at the damn ocean? I got to get home. I have to get back to the man I love.

Gwen: Yes. Of course, it’s about sarah. You’ve just spent the last bloody month trying to track her down, xander.

Xander: ‘Cause I was trying to make sure she was okay. And now I know she’s okay, and we can have our lives back.

Gwen: ‘Cause she dumped you again.

Xander: Hey, it doesn’t matter that she dumped me, just like it wouldn’t matter if she wanted me back. I love you, gwen. I want to be with you.

Gwen: Come on. How in god’s name do you actually expect me to believe that?

Xander: Because it’s the truth.

Kristen: Sweet, sweet abigail, hm? See, I don’t need to worry about how chad or brady are gonna feel about this because they’re not gonna know about this, huh? Now I want you to take some time, and I want you to reflect and ultimately absorb the fact that you don’t have any power. I am in absolute control. And you’re just gonna have to make peace with that. Try to eat something. Maybe it’s low blood sugar that’s making you so disagreeable.

[Soft music]

Brady: You overheard him on the phone?

Chloe: Yeah. About five minutes after my mom was going on about what an honest, loyal husband my father is.

Brady: Oh, god. Chlo, I’m so sorry. You shouldn’t have had to hear that.

Chloe: I just don’t know what this is gonna do to my mom.

Brady: Well, he’s not the first husband who has cheated on his wife. But I mean, this girlfriend, do you know who she is, or–

Chloe: It’s not a her, him.

Brady: Him?

Chloe: Yeah. My dad’s been cheating on my mom with a man.

Brady: Are you trying to tell me that your father is gay?

Nancy: Craig, I keep seeing people that I think I used to know.

Craig: Nancy, could you please focus? Just for a moment. I–there’s something I need to tell you.

Nancy: Okay. Are you all right?

Craig: Yes.

Roman: All right. There you go, two chowders. Enjoy.

Craig: Thanks, roman. Oh, god.

Nancy: Craig, what is it? Are you sick? Is that what you’ve been hiding from me?

Craig: No, nancy, that’s not it.

Nancy: But, craig, you are hiding something from me, right? For god’s sake, just tell me what it is.

Craig: Nancy. You were right before. I am seeing somebody else. Rob did his best to manage his constipation

Brady: So craig is gay?

Chloe: I don’t know.

Brady: You don’t know? You just said that–

Chloe: He said that he’s seeing another man. We didn’t exactly discuss the specifics of how he identifies.

Brady: Okay, right.

Chloe: Brady, he’s in so much pain. But he says he loves my mom, but then he also says–

Brady: Says what?

Chloe: He says that he’s in love with this other guy. I don’t know. I mean, I get this sense that maybe he’s been in denial this entire time, but it just feels like it’s really new to him.

Brady: Yeah.

Chloe: But at the same time, I don’t really give a damn about his pain because of what this will do to my mom.

Brady: Yeah. It’s okay, I get it.

Chad: She said that gwen had entered as if on cue. Like the whole thing was staged.

Kate: Like an elaborate, nefarious scheme. Like you’re still here, my love. And gwen, gwen’s involved, too?

Chad: I remember something that abby had said to me. She said that gwen was there when she told her parents that she was looking for sarah, that gwen had freaked out. At the time, she thought that gwen was just trying to keep xander from going back to sarah. But… what if she knew that kristen had sarah and… no, that’s too much of a stretch.

Kate: No, I don’t think so. We both know that kristen is capable of coercing someone into helping her. Gwen, I mean, gwen would be open to temptation. She’d be open to blackmail.

Chad: Yeah, but I just don’t see any connection between gwen and kristen.

Xander: Then what is it? Why are you behaving this way? What more do I have to do to prove to you that even if sarah horton walked through that door right now and begged to have me back, I would still choose you?
