Xander: Laying out your sunday best?

Sarah: [Laughs] Uh, I have decided to make an appointment with my old department head at the hospital. Hoping to get reinstated there.

Xander: You should be. You didn’t do anything wrong.

Sarah: Well, let’s hope that he and the board feel that way. I have to convince them that everything that I went through didn’t change what kind of doctor I am. Just gonna start getting my old life back.

Xander: Well, if what you want is your old life back, we could finally get married.

Sarah: Mm, you just let me know what day, and I will be there.

Xander: Well, how does today sound?

Jennifer: Jack, I didn’t hear you come in.

Jack: I know. Is something wrong?

Chad: What do you think you’re doing?

Melinda: Looking for paperwork on a case that I’m prosecuting, not that it’s any of your business.

Chad: I’m sorry, the man who murdered my wife and stabbed my best friend is walking around free, and you’re looking through papers?

Melinda: Okay, believe me, I share your frustration, mr. Dimera, but commissioner hernandez is on this case personally.

Chad: He is?

Melinda: That’s right, and i just found out that he knows where leo stark is hiding out.

Chad: For real?

Melinda: He should be putting mr. Stark in handcuffs as we speak.

Rafe: I checked the parking lot and the entire building. Leo was gone long before we got her.

Sloan: I don’t understand. He promised he’d wait for me.

Rafe: Did he? Because I’m guessing that he knew I was coming, and that’s why he left in such a hurry.

Sloan: I don’t know how he would know that. It’s not like I tipped him off.

Rafe: Stop lying to me. Stop lying, because you were the only one who knew. You double-crossed me, counselor.

Sloan: What? No, I didn’T. I–I wouldn’T.

Rafe: Stop lying. Now where the hell is leo?

[Machines beeping]

[Dramatic music]

Sonny: Are you a nurse?

Leo: Bitch, please. It’s me.

Sonny: Leo?

Leo: Thank you.

Sonny: Why are you dressed like a nurse?

Leo: It’s not a fashion statement, I’ll tell you that. It was the only way I could get in here to see you.

Sonny: What is–what am i doing here? What happened?

Leo: You don’t remember somebody stabbing you in the back?

Sonny: Oh, my god.

Leo: Think, sonny, I’m counting on you. I need you to tell me who did this to you.

Sonny: It was…

Leo: Come on, out with it.

Sonny: It was you.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Leo: No, no, no! You are confused, and for once, it’s semi forgivable. Just take some deep breaths and think hard.

Sonny: You snuck in here so you could finish me off.

Leo: Sonny, I did not stab you, and I am not here to hurt you.

Sonny: [Groans] But you were there.

Leo: Yes, yes I came to your office saying that I wanted to declare a truce between us, and you agreed, sort of, and then I left. I only came back because I needed my parking ticket validated. It is criminal what titan charges for parking.

Sonny: More criminal than trying to kill me?

Leo: Sweetheart, when I came back, you were on the floor with a knife in your back. Somebody came in after I left the first time, and that someone stabbed you. Please, sonny, my life is on the line here. Don’t tell me you don’t remember who that someone was.

Melinda: There is no doubt in my mind that leo stark murdered your wife, and then he made an attempt on sonny kiriakis’ life too. So you can be confident that his prosecution begins the moment commissioner hernandez brings mr. Stark in here in handcuffs.

Chad: Can I hang around? I’d like to see that with my own two eyes.

Melinda: Yeah, I don’t have a problem with that.

Chad: If it is leo, what happens to gwen rizczech, his partner in crime.

Melinda: Rest easy. She’s still in custody.

Gwen: Not anymore.

[Dramatic music]

Xander: Come on, we’d be an old married couple by now if it wasn’t for gwen.

Sarah: Mm, I still can’t believe that she tried to make it seem like I killed abigail. She’s still obsessed with you. I hope you know that.

Xander: Yeah, well, let’s prove to her and whole rest of the world that she can’t keep us apart anymore. I mean, after everything we’ve been through, I don’t want to wait another minute.

Sarah: Mm.

Xander: And it’s not like gwen can get in our way now. She’s locked up.

Sarah: Would be a shame to waste such an opportunity.

Xander: Right?

Sarah: Mm-hmm.

Xander: So is that a yes? Can I get your mom on the phone?

Sarah: Could we maybe put it off for a little longer?

Xander: Why?

Sarah: Mm, I was just kind of hoping we could get a jump on the wedding thing.

Xander: Oh.

Sarah: Mm.

[Tender music]

This is the sound of nature breathing.

Jennifer: A lot of things are wrong, jack. You know it as well as I do.

Jack: I’m talking about those pills in your hand.

Jennifer: I’m glad you didn’t see me going through doug and julie’s medicine cabinet trying to find the empty one. I had to lie through my teeth to get the pharmacist to refill it.

[Sighs] These? I’ve been having headaches. Kayla gave me prescription-strength ibuprofen.

Jack: You didn’t tell me about the headaches.

Jennifer: Well, you’ve had enough going on.

Jack: Well, I’ll just get you some water so you can take one of those.

Jennifer: Oh, no, you don’t have to. Just seeing you makes me feel much better.

Jack: Mm.

Jennifer: I don’t need a pill.

Jack: [Sighs] Ah. Jennifer, there’s something I have to tell you.

Jennifer: Well, from the look on your face, I’d say it’s not good. What now?

Jack: I hired a lawyer to represent gwen.

Melinda: I don’t know how you’ve managed this, but don’t go anywhere.

[Phone beeps]

Chad: How’d you get out of your cell?

Melinda: There’s not a single officer in the squad room, and a prisoner has escaped.

Gwen: I did not escape.

Chad: Yeah, then how’d you get here?

Gwen: Sonny kiriakis was stabbed last night, and I was locked up, so my lawyer convinced the judge that there is evidence of a connection between abigail’s death and sonny’s stabbing and that what leo said to the police was just to frame me for something that he did. You let leo go to go after sonny. Well done. You know, you might want to advise the kiriakis family to sue the da’s office.

Melinda: Mr. Stark’s guilt does not prove your innocence, so don’t leave town.

Chad: Where are you going?

Melinda: To get answers from a more reliable source than her, and then I’m gonna fire the ada that blew this hearing this morning.

Chad: You must be feeling very pleased with yourself.

Gwen: I’m free because I’m innocent, and leo will be arrested, and then you will see that he was lying about me.

Rafe: How did you signal leo that I was coming with you?

Sloan: You heard my end of the phone call. I didn’t say a word about you. He must have figured it out on his own. You’re wasting your time doing that.

Rafe: Do you remember when i told you if you didn’t help me find leo, I was gonna charge you as an accessory? You are about two minutes from being in handcuffs.

Sloan: Oh, go for it. It’s a bogus charge, and it’s never gonna stick.

Rafe: It’s never gonna stick? You’re about to find out how sticky I can make things for you.

Sonny: Well, if you’re not trying to kill me, why are you still holding on to the call button?

Leo: Try being accused of murder sometime. It makes a person very cautious.

[Sighs] Look, sonny, I knew what I was risking by coming here, but i basically can’t trust anyone right now, not even my lawyer. You are the only one who can get me out of this jam

Sonny: You can’t make me say what you want to hear.

Leo: Remember that truce I mentioned? Go back to that conversation. Use your second most precious muscle and concentrate.

Sonny: I said we’d never be friends… but we’d leave each other alone. Something like that.

Leo: And then what?

Sonny: And then you left.

Leo: What ese?

Sonny: Then I sat down at my desk. A few minutes later, I had to get something from a filing cabinet, and my back was to the door, and then I heard a noise. I went to turn around, but then something hit me in the back, and I had, like, this… searing pain. And then that’s it. It just goes black.

Leo: You didn’t get a look, not even a little peek?

Sonny: I can’t clear you, leo. It could’ve been you.

Leo: Who it was is the person who is trying to frame me. If I did this, you think I would’ve left my list behind for the cops to find?

Sonny: Sorry, what list?

Leo: Oh. Okay, don’t take this the wrong way, but I made an enemies list.

Sonny: Oh, my god.

Leo: You were at the top, you and abigail and brady and chloe and everyone who put in the time and trouble to bust up craig and me.

Sonny: You had to make a list? You couldn’t just keep it in your head?

Leo: It was satisfying, all right? But somebody found that list, and they brought it to your office. Then they stabbed you, left it on your desk, and they crossed off your name and abigail’s name. I did not do that. Well, I did cross off abigail’S.

Sonny: You killed abigail?

Leo: Not because I killed her. Because she was dead, which does make a person less of a threat, and that’s not the point.

Sonny: Then what is your fricking point?

Leo: Somebody is trying to make me look like I’m a fricking serial killer! My asthma felt anything but normal.

Jennifer: So you hired a lawyer for gwen without talking to me first?

Jack: It was a kneejerk reaction. I’m so sorry. God knows you’d never do anything so major without telling me. But gwen couldn’t have stabbed sonny, so maybe she’s not lying when she said she didn’t kill abigail, and I couldn’t let her go back to prison for something that she didn’t do.

Jennifer: I guess not.

Jack: Jennifer… I made gwen a part of our lives. I asked you and abigail to accept her, and you both did. When I believed that gwen killed abigail… I didn’t even know how to face you. But you were understanding then, and I’m asking you to be understanding now.

Jennifer: So you feel that leo only pointed the finger at gwen to divert attention from himself?

Jack: He set her up, and I bought it. Everybody did. Look, she’s no saint, obviously, but she’s– she deserves a whole lot better than she got from me.

Jennifer: And you feel the need to make up for it.

Jack: That’s why I did what I did today. Please, jennifer, tell me that it’s okay. The last thing I want to do is make all of this harder for you than it already is.

Gwen: You must be wishing that my father left me in jail.

Chad: Something like that.

Gwen: I told you the truth when you came to see me. I didn’t kill abigail. Leo set me up.

Chad: Now don’t play the martyr. You can’t pull it off. I wouldn’t put it past you and leo to point the finger at each other just to muddy the case against either one of you.

Gwen: Okay, you believe that at your peril.

Chad: What peril?

Gwen: Do you remember, I told you that leo had made a list of all of his enemies. Now abigail is dead, sonny is in intensive care, and they were both on that list, and so are you. The da has put leo out on the streets at my expense. What if leo decides to come after you next?

Leo: I have been cutting you some slack because of the condition you’re in, but I don’t have all the time in the world. Are you gonna tell the cops I did this to you?

[Phone rings]

[Phone beeps]

Leo: I have laid this out for you in a very logical way, and you’re looking at this call button like it’s a lifeline.

Sonny: Gee, I wonder why. I regain consciousness, and the first thing I see is you dressed like a nurse from an R.L. Stine book. How do I know you don’t have a weapon in that padded bra?

Leo: If you remember last night, you remember that you and I kind of had a moment. Your big brother alex had just threatened to kill me, and I was scared. I begged you to tell him that you and I were okay. I practically got down on my knees, and I don’t do that for just anybody. Well, actually, I do, but not for apologies. Why would I put myself through all that and then bump you off? I would’ve cut to the chase and saved myself a lot of humiliation. Please, sonny, please tell me you get what I’m saying here.

[Door clicks]

Nurse: Mr. Kiriakis, you’re awake. No matter who you are,

Nurse: I have to let your doctor know that you’re making such good progress.

Leo: No need, hon. I’ve already done that. Doctor is on his way. Right, mr. Kiriakis?

Sloan: Straight to voicemail. Anything else I can do to prove that leo and i aren’t in cahoots.

Rafe: Okay, fine. Maybe he got spooked like you said, and maybe you set me up. All I know is that I was wrong to trust you because now leo stark is back on the streets, and my investigation is back to square one!

[Line trilling] Yeah, any word on the apb? Damn. No, I lost stark. Listen, set up a quadrant search using my location as a starting point. Okay. No, I’ll alert the da.

Melinda: [Sighs] Here, your personal affects. Everything you signed a receipt for is in there. Oh, except for the sarah mask. We’re keeping that as a souvenir.

Gwen: Oh, you have to let me go because you took the word of a born liar. You know what? Do me a favor, darling. How about you do a decent job this time? Get justice for this man and for his children. Nobody should have to suffer the way that they did.

[Soft dramatic music]

Gwen: [Sighs] Thank god this bloody nightmare is finally over for me.

Chad: Talk about a get out of jail free card.

Gwen: I see this as a sign to take hold of a new lease on life. But right now, there’s somebody that I need to thank.

Jennifer: I guess I understand why you’d do this for gwen. In your shoes, I’d probably do the same thing.

Jack: Thank you. Thank you.

[Doorbell rings] I– um…

Xander: Um, may we come in?

Jack: Yes, of course. Of course, please. Uh, jennifer, look who’s here.

Sarah: I hope we’re not intruding.

Jennifer: Oh, no, of course you’re not.

Xander: Obviously we know how bad things are for you right now. We just–I don’t know. That’s kind of why we were here. We thought maybe we could pick up your day a bit.

Jennifer: Oh, well, that would be wonderful.

Jack: So what’s up?

Xander: Jack, we’re finally doing it. We’re getting married today.

Jack: Today?

Jennifer: Oh!

Xander: We were hoping that the two of you might be our witnesses.

Jack: Well–

Jennifer: Oh.

Jack: That–we’d be honored.

Jennifer: We definitely would, oh!

Sarah: Really?

Jack: Yes.

Jennifer: It’s so wonderful to see people getting their lives back on track.

Jack: Thank you, sarah. So when and where?

Sarah: My mom is meeting us at city hall.

Xander: Yeah, we didn’t feel right asking her to use her house because everything with sonny.

Jennifer: Oh, why don’t you get married here?

Sarah: Really?

Jennifer: Yes. This is your family home.

Xander: Oh, well, we wouldn’t want to put you out.

Jack: You’re not, you’re not.

Jennifer: You’re definitely not. It would be a blessing to have a cause for celebration again.

Sarah: Okay, yeah, let’s do it.

Jack: All right!

Jennifer: Yay!

[Laughs] Wonderful.

Jack: Wonderful, yes.

Jennifer: I cannot believe this. You look so beautiful. Oh, you look so handsome. Oh, my gosh. Some days, it felt like asthma was holding me back.

Sonny: Nurse leona here is right. Uh, he called– she called my doctor, and he is on his way.

Nurse: Then it looks like you’re in good hands.

Sonny: Very.

[Soft dramatic music]

Leo: You believe me, don’t you?

Sonny: I better not regret this.

Leo: If you believe I didn’t do this to you, then you also believe I’m being framed.

Sonny: I do. And whoever it is, they seem to hate both of us.

Sloan: Did the da chew you out?

Rafe: Oh, yeah.

Sloan: Good.

Rafe: Okay, so leo took off about 45 minutes ago. He probably took oak street because it has the lightest traffic. Oh, my god, I’m such a moron.

Sloan: Wow, finally you say something I agree with.

Rafe: You know what else is on oak street? University hospital. Sonny’s in the icu there.

Sloan: Hernandez! Ugh. You still have my keys!

Maggie: Oh, let’s hope the third time is the charm. This wedding is long overdue.

Xander: Couldn’t agree more.

Maggie: So where is sarah?

Xander: Well, she said she needed to freshen up. I mean, I thought she looked perfect as she was.

Maggie: Well, maybe she wants to make a bit of an entrance. That’s the bride’s right, mm.

Jennifer: Aren’t these beautiful? We can put them all around.

Maggie: Okay, well, let me help you.

Jennifer: Oh, great.

Jack: I haven’t seen jennifer smile in a long time. Thanks for making us a part of this day.

Xander: Oh, you’re my mate. Wouldn’t be right without you here. I wanted to ask you the last time we tried to do this, but, you know, it was too soon.

[Sighs] What a bad day that turned out to be.

Jack: The only reason sarah was arrested was because of gwen. I am so sorry for all of that.

Xander: Hey, that wasn’t any of your doing, jack.

Jack: About gwen, um…

Xander: What about her?

Jack: [Sighs] Never mind. It can wait.

Maggie: Well, I wasn’t expecting to see you again today. How’s it going?

Jennifer: Uh, I feel much better. Thank you so much for talking with me.

Maggie: Oh, anytime. You’re the one who had the strength to throw out those pills. That was a very big deal. What did jack say when you told him?

Jennifer: I haven’t had the chance to talk with him about it yet. There’s been so much going on.

Maggie: Huh. So what? What’s been going on?

Jennifer: Huh?

Maggie: Oh, hi.

Jennifer: Look at you!

Maggie: You look lovely and so happy.

Sarah: Well, for a while there, I didn’t think that this kind of happiness was possible for me anymore.

Jennifer: We made you a bouquet. Are you ready?

Sarah: Yes. Xan, my baby. What do you say? You want to get married?

Xander: I say yes.

[Tender music]

Maggie: Oh. Yes, yes, yes, yes.

[Muffled speech and laughter]

[Dramatic music]

Maggie: [Laughs]

Xander: All right.

Jennifer: Yay! Oh, my goodness.

Gwen: What’s going on?

Sarah: Yes, good.

Gwen: Maybe I should just go.

Xander: Yes.

Maggie: Oh, wonderful. Dearly beloved, we are gathered today to join xander and sarah in marriage. Marriage is an honorable state, one that should not be–

Xander: Maggie, um, would you mind if we just skip straight to the good bits, and if we could avoid the whole “does anyone object?” Part, that’d be great.

Maggie: Gotcha. Okay, you and sarah, um, have prepared your vows a year ago. Well, now you get a chance to say them out loud. Why don’t you start?

Xander: I…

Sarah: What?

Xander: I can’t remember my speech. I went over it and over it and over it, and I just– my mind has gone completely blank.

[Laughter]

Maggie: Well, then, you know, why don’t you just say what’s in your heart right now?

Xander: Right. Your just… you are the best thing that has ever happened to me.

[Sighs] Being loved by someone like you, I… it’s more than i ever dreamed of. And when I thought I’d lost you, I… it was like nothing mattered anymore. And I did the sort of things that I used to do before I knew you because i decided that, well, happiness must not be on the cards for me because you are my happiness, sarah, and then a miracle happened because of abigail. You came back to me, and now I’m gonna spend the rest of my life taking care of you and being so very grateful for that miracle.

Sarah: [Laughs]

[Chuckles] I feel like I’ve been entrusted with this wonderful secret ’cause I know the real you, the xander you were born to be before life made you bitter and angry, before I knew that I loved you, you became my friend, my crude, pushy, unfailingly loyal friend, and I found myself just wanting to get to know you better, and something told me that if I did, it would be the gift of a lifetime, and it was. The night before our first wedding, I remember thinking that I had gotten everything I’d ever wanted. What an awful journey we went after that, right?

[Laughs] I thought that I lost you forever, but here we are, and I get to spend the rest of my life with the love of my life, my husband. That’s you.

[Chuckles]

Maggie: Oh, that is so beautiful, both of you. And now do you, xander cook, take sarah horton to be your wedded wife, to cherish her in love and in friendship, in strength and in weakness, in success and in disappointment, and will you love her faithfully today, tomorrow, and as long as the two of you shall live?

Xander: I do.

Maggie: And do you, sarah horton, take xander cook to be your wedded husband, to cherish him in love and in friendship, in strength and in weakness, in success and in disappointment, and will you love him faithfully today, tomorrow, and for as long as the two of you shall live?

Sarah: I do.

Maggie: Tell me you have the rings.

Xander: Oh, no, I do. I do. I do. I definitely do.

Sarah: Oh.

Xander: I’ll give you this one.

Sarah: [Laughs]

Xander: Okay.

[Tender music]

[Laughter]

Maggie: Well, now I’m overjoyed to finally pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride!

[Applause]

Sonny: Oh, my god, I hope I’m not making a huge mistake trusting you.

Leo: You think I’m lying? Still?

Leo: Well, gwen’s in jail. Who else would’ve done this to me

Leo: Girl, if I knew the answer to that, you think I’d be here? I’d be spilling my guts to salem’s finest.

[Phone rings] Ugh, I have to take this.

Sonny: You know more than you’re telling me.

Leo: Hey, sloany.

Sloan: I am stuck at this dive motel, and you’re not here.

Leo: Sorry, I can’t trust anyone anymore. I thought it was a trap.

Leo: That’s exactly what it was. The police commissioner said he’d arrest me if I didn’t help him out.

Leo: Traitor! Ever hear of a malpractice suit?

Sloan: Shut up and listen to me.

Leo: Why?

Sloan: I better not get disbarred for this. Where are you?

Leo: Why would I tell you anything about my location?

Sarah: Because commissioner hernandez thinks you’re at the hospital to finish off sonny kiriakis. Do not go anywhere near that place. He’s headed there now.

Leo: What? When did he leave?

Sarah: He should be there any minute.

Jennifer: [Laughs]

Sarah: [Giggles]

Xander: What the bloody hell are you doing here?

Gwen: I’m sorry. I’m sorry, I– I didn’t mean to intrude. I–

Xander: What did you mean to do?

Gwen: [Sighs] If I’d have known that this was going on–

Xander: No, no, why aren’t you in jail?

Gwen: My new lawyer convinced the judge to release me. They’re looking for leo now. I– I’m sorry. I really didn’t mean to ruin your wedding. I can see now that you both are meant to be together.

Xander: No thanks to you.

Gwen: I–I just wanted to come here and say thank you for having my back yet again. God knows I’ve done nothing to deserve it. Right, I’m gonna leave now. Just go back to your celebrations. I had no intention of hurting abigail that night. It was just my desperate attempt to get sarah away from xander. And one more thing. I didn’t kill laura. Her death really was an accident, and I told abigail that, too, and she believed me. I hope you will too.

Jennifer: I’ll have to think about it.

Gwen: [Sighs] I wish you a world of happiness.

[Soft dramatic music]

Sarah: Well, at least she didn’t show up in time to object.

Xander: She’s gone now, hopefully for good.

Flo, you’re here.

[Soft dramatic music]

Gwen: What the hell is this? What’s happened here?

Gwen: [Sighs] Thank god it’s still here.

Xander: Well, so gwen told us to enjoy this moment, and that’s exactly what i intend to do. This is the first day of my life with the missus, and I intend to celebrate the hell out of it.

Maggie: Oh, I like that.

Jack: That sounds really good.

Xander: Okay.

Sarah: My goodness.

Jennifer: Oh, here he is.

Sarah: Thank you.

Jack: And you. For you.

Maggie: Ah, thank you, sir.

Jack: For you, my darling.

Jennifer: Thank you.

Maggie: Okay.

Jack: All right, it’s time for a toast. To mr. And mrs. Xander cook.

Maggie: Here, here!

Jennifer: Cheers!

Sarah: Cheers, cheers.

[Chuckles]

Xander: [Sighs]

Maggie: Oh, look at him!

[Laughs] He needs more.

[Laughter]

Gwen: [Sighs]

[Elevator chimes]

Rafe: Excuse me, I need an update on sonny kiriakis.

Nurse: He’s regained consciousness.

Rafe: Oh, that’s great. When was the last time someone checked in on him?

Nurse: There’s another nurse with him right now.

Rafe: Okay, what’s her name?

Nurse: I think mr. Kiriakis called her leona.

Rafe: And how well do you know her?

Nurse: I don’T. I’ve never seen her before.

Rafe: Oh, my god.

[Dramatic music]

Rafe: Hey, leo was here?

Sonny: Yeah, you just missed him.

Rafe: Oh, my god.

Nurse: Nurse leona, the commissioner of police would like to talk to you.

[Elevator chimes]

Leo: Sorry, doll. I’m on my break.

Jennifer: I can’t believe someone did that to sonny.

Maggie: Thank you, sweetie.

Jennifer: Did you sleep at all last night?

Maggie: Oh. A while, finally.

Jennifer: How’s victor taking it?

Maggie: Well, he’s doing his best to be strong, you know, for justin’s sake, but I’m really worried about him.

Victor: Young man in his prime gets stabbed in the back and the only thing this rag can worry about is money. Leo stark ought to be eradicated from the planet. Should’ve done it myself a long time ago.

Alex: This is on me, uncle vic.

Victor: Alex. What are you talking about?

Alex: I had the chance to take care of stark last night and I didn’t do it. If sonny doesn’t make it out of this, I’ll never forgive myself.

[Phone rings]

Sloan: I don’t appreciate being summoned.

Rafe: You know what I don’t appreciate? Deranged killers freely roaming my streets, so why don’t you tell me where leo stark is?

Sloan: [Sighs]

[Knock on door]

Leo: Nobody’s supposed to know I’m here.

Chad: Stark. Open the door.

Leo: Chad? Oh, god. What do I do?

Chad: Open the door, or I’m gonna kick it in!

Leo: I’m coming. Chad, you don’t understand!

Chad: I understand plenty. You murdered my wife and my best friend. And now, it’s your turn to die.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Chad: You recognize this? You used it on abigail and sonny. I went through a lot of trouble to steal this from the police evidence room and it was worth it because now, I’m gonna use it to rid the world of you.

Leo: Please don’t do that. I’m begging you.

Chad: Begging, begging. Did my wife beg you before you stuck this into her? Did she beg you to think about our kids?

Leo: I didn’t kill abigail, I swear to god!

Chad: See, sonny, sonny, sonny didn’t even have a chance to beg. You just snuck up on him and now, he’s dead.

Leo: He’s dead?

Chad: You stabbed him in the back like the coward you are.

Leo: I am. I am a total coward. That’s why I couldn’t have stabbed anybody. I pass out if I see blood. I didn’t do any of this!

Chad: Shh. You think that I am gonna believe a word that you say?

[Flesh squelches]

Leo: [Groans]

[Dramatic music]

Chad: [Sighs]

Leo: [Gasps]

[Panting]

[Elevator bell dings]

Chad: No, no, no, don’t tell me that sonny–

Justin: No, no, no, no, no. He’s alive.

Chad: [Sighs]

Justin: He’s just in the icu.

Chad: Okay, he made it through the night. That’s a good sign.

Justin: Yes, yes, but the knife did a lot of damage. His surgeon said that he’s still critical, but stable.

Chad: Thank, god. I thought when I saw the two of you talking, I–

Mr. Kiriakis.

Justin: Yes. How’s sonny?

He’s still holding his own, but the doctor said you could see him now.

Justin: Oh, thank you.

Chad: I can’t believe this.

Stephanie: Sonny’s tough. He gets it from the johnson side. We don’t mention that to victor.

Chad: [Chuckles]

Stephanie: He has so much to live for. He’ll pull through.

Chad: Yeah, he has to. I don’t think I can handle losing anyone else I love right now.

Sloan: You already had to drop the charges against leo, now you want to pull him in?

Rafe: Oh, yeah.

Sloan: Why?

Rafe: Hmm. This.

Sloan: [Chuckles] So? That’s a steak knife. Look, I’ve got somewhere to be, so could you just get to the point?

Rafe: Last night, chad dimera went to sonny kiriakis’ office and he found sonny lying on the floor with this knife stuck in his back and leo stark standing over him. So could we knock off the games now? Some days, it felt like asthma was holding me back.

Rafe: Your client and sonny hate each other.

Sloan: Did chad see leo stab sonny?

Rafe: No.

Sloan: Did anybody else?

Rafe: Not that I’m aware of.

Sloan: So no witnesses. Isn’t it possible that chad walked in just as leo was trying to administer first aid to mr. Kiriakis?

Rafe: Not with their history.

Sloan: What history?

Rafe: Well, leo blames sonny for ruining his romance with his last mark and you know, he used to work for sonny at titan, so he knew how to talk his way through security. And his fingerprints are all over the handle of that knife– means, motive, and opportunity.

Sloan: Maybe leo was trying to pull the knife out. Some people panic, you know? They do stupid stuff.

Rafe: Oh, you got an explanation for everything, don’t you? You know, maybe you can use those talents to explain why the coroner also believes that that knife was used in another murder of one of leo’s enemies, abigail dimera.

Victor: The only person to blame for what got done to sonny is leo stark.

Alex: I know that, but–

Victor: No buts. Don’t go trying to make this your personal tragedy. And as far as leo stark is concerned, that little weasel’s gonna rue the day he ever laid a finger on a kiriakis.

Leo: [Groans] I’ve been on hold forever. Was I cut off by that? Yeah. Yo. This is sonny kiriakis’ brother, alex, just calling to find out how my kid brother’s doing. Oh, that’s wonderful. I mean, awesome. Yeah, thanks a lot.

[Cell phone beeps]

[Sighs] Sonny’s still alive, which means I can’t be framed for another murder. Which means all I have to do is figure out the name of the rat who is setting me up.

[Sighs]

Stephanie: I hear you found sonny.

Chad: [Clears throat]

Stephanie: Did you get any sleep at all? I don’t suppose you’ve had any breakfast. I need to make myself useful, so I’m gonna go down to the cafeteria and get you whatever doesn’t look disgusting.

Chad: Oh, I can’t eat. Not until I know sonny’s okay.

Stephanie: Well, it may be a while before we know that. I don’t want you passing out from low blood sugar.

[Elevator bell dings]

Chad: Will.

Will: Where’s sonny?

Stephanie: He’s in the icu. I’ll show you where it is.

[Tense music]

[Monitor beeping]

Justin: You were always a good sleeper, even when you were a baby. And when you did wake up in the middle of the night, you never cried. Your mom and I would just hear you babbling to yourself in your crib and one of us would go in. Your mom used to sing a song. The same song.

[Cries] I’d give anything to hear her sing that again.

[Crying] I love you, sonny. Please, you have to come back to us. I can’t lose you too.

Will: Justin.

Justin: Will. Will, you made it. Thank, god.

Will: When did he get out of surgery?

Justin: Not till the middle of the night. They didn’t want to reverse the anesthesia, so we have to just wait for him to come out.

Will: Is it okay?

Justin: Oh, yeah. Please.

Will: Hey. Hey, sonny, it’s me. I’m here. I’m here.

It’s started. Somewhere between a cuddle

Jennifer: And now, I’m going to fix you something to eat.

Maggie: No, you’re not. Please, come and sit down.

Jennifer: [Sighs]

Maggie: Tell me, jenn, how are you getting through these days?

Jennifer: Oh, well, jack really took a nosedive when gwen was charged. He’s a wreck. She put abigail through so much, but he never thought that she’d go this far.

Maggie: Sweetheart, I asked how you are, and you told me how jack is.

Jennifer: Well, it’s harder for him because of gwen.

Maggie: It’s just as hard for you. I know how it feels to lose a daughter, and I wasn’t as close to summer as you were to abigail. But she was your firstborn. She was your baby. Your friend.

Jennifer: I– believe me, aunt maggie, I know, but listen, people grieve differently. I mean, I’m okay. I have to be. Jack and chad and the kids, they’re…

[Sighs] They need me. Thomas and charlotte are having to go through life without a mother, and their father is really struggling. Someone has to be strong.

Maggie: You know what? I worry there’s no one to be strong for you.

Jennifer: [Sighs]

[Cell phone ringing] Oh. Oh, it’s the ad sales department at the paper.

Maggie: At a time like this?

Jennifer: Yes. I’m so sorry. I have to take it. Hello? Hi. Yes, it’s me. What’s up?

[Soft dramatic music]

Maggie: Pain killers. Oh, jennifer.

Alex: My brother’s fighting for his life. You want me to focus on business.

Victor: You’re damn right I do. When sonny gets better, and he will, I want him to come back to a company that’s thriving. That’s where you come in.

Alex: How? What are you talking about?

Victor: Do I have to draw you a picture? I want you to take over as interim ceo of titan.

Will: Are the doctors saying he’ll make a full recovery?

Justin: All they’re saying is that he’s holding his own, but that he’s not out of the woods.

Will: What does that mean?

Justin: They’re hopeful, but they’re monitoring his condition very closely.

Will: Okay. I mean, ’cause I can’t lose him.

Justin: I know. Sonny doesn’t want to lose you either. He’s not going to leave us now. He’ll pull through.

Will: Yeah, he has to.

[Monitor beeping]

[Elevator bell dings]

Stephanie: Chad. Here.

Chad: What’s in here?

Stephanie: A bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich. Have breakfast then go home and get some sleep.

Chad: I already told you. I’m not leaving sonny.

Stephanie: Sonny’s got his husband and his dad with him. You’re gonna need to spell him in a few hours, and you can’t do that if you’re exhausted.

Chad: The person that killed my wife and almost killed my best friend is on the loose, and you want me to go home and sleep?

[Cell phone beeps]

Sloan: The 911 log says that it was leo who called in for the ambulance.

Rafe: ‘Cause chad told him to.

Sloan: Already had to drop the charges against leo for abigail dimera. It sounds to me like you’re gonna have to do the same thing here. Your case is entirely circumstantial.

Rafe: Mm-hmm. Do you know actually, there is one piece of evidence that I haven’t told you about yet. You see, leo made a list of all the people that he was out to get.

Stephanie: How do you know that?

Rafe: We found this at the crime scene. Two names crossed off. Abigail and sonny.

Stephanie: More circumstantial evidence.

Rafe: I am not charging leo– yet, but I sure as hell am gonna talk to him and I am pretty sure you know where he’s at. So either you help me bring him in, or I’m gonna charge you as an accessory.

Stephanie: You can’t do that.

Rafe: Watch me.

Migraine attacks?

Victor: Well?

Alex: Why are they going after titan? My brother didn’t ask to get himself stabbed. This is just clickbait.

Victor: This is not a tabloid, alex.

Alex: No, I understand that. I get it. It’s a respectable publication. They’re threatening to lose confidence in titan.

Victor: Which I cannot have.

Alex: You want me to take over?

Victor: And I want stephanie johnson working full-time to get this pr crisis in control.

Alex: And you’re sure you want me working with stephanie? Wasn’t it just the other day, you told me that if it were up to you, you wouldn’t have steve johnson’s daughter wipe the floors at titan.

Victor: Yes, and I meant it, but sonny hired her and I think it’s about time she started to earn her keep.

Stephanie: Oh.

Chad: How is he? Did he know you were there?

Justin: I don’t know. Will’s with him now. He’s probably the best medicine for him.

Stephanie: [Sighs] Will looked scared to death.

Justin: We all are. Look, I’m gonna be in the chapel if anybody’s looking for me.

[Soft dramatic music]

Chad: I’m gonna go check on will.

Stephanie: Sure. I’ll wait for you here.

[Cell phone ringing]

[Cell phone beeps] This is stephanie.

Alex: Hey, it’s alex. I need to see you right away. Kiriakis study. Be there in ten.

Stephanie: But I’m–

Alex: But nothing.

[Cell phone beeps]

Stephanie: [Sighs]

Jennifer: Sorry about that. They had to have an okay on a big ad buy.

Maggie: I accidentally knocked this over.

Jennifer: Oh. I should’ve latched it.

Maggie: When I was picking up what I spilled, I– I found this.

Jennifer: Oh. Oh, those are doug’s pain meds. Julie asked me to fill it.

Maggie: Doug’s in pain?

Jennifer: That old racquetball injury.

Maggie: But doug hasn’t been playing racquetball in a long time.

Jennifer: Maybe it was something else.

Maggie: Hmm.

Jennifer: Maybe he had a fall and julie doesn’t want anybody to know about it. You know how proud they both are.

Maggie: Jennifer. You know you can tell me the truth.

Leo: Someone hates me enough to frame me for a murder and an almost murder, and I can’t figure out who it is. The people who hate me most are the same people who love sonny and abigail. It doesn’t make any sense.

[Cell phone ringing]

[Cell phone beeps] Hey, girl.

Sloan: Where are you, leo?

Leo: Look, this has been real and all, but your services are no longer needed.

Sloan: And what does that mean?

Leo: It means I’ll see you on the flip side. I’m out. Good bye.

Sloan: Wait a minute, leo. Don’t hang up. I can still help you.

Leo: And how are you gonna do that? Someone is trying to pin not one, but two crimes on me. Are you saying you can make those charges go the way of dvds and spiral perms?

Sloan: I want you to tell me exactly what happened in sonny kiriakis’ office.

Leo: What difference does it make? The cops already think I did it, so does chad.

Sloan: Did anyone see you do it?

Leo: No, because I didn’t!

Sloan: Then I can still help you.

Leo: Sonny had already been stabbed when I got back to his office. I’m the one who found him. You tell that to the cops and see how fast they change their opinion about me. I’ll wait. On second thought, I won’T.

Sloan: I believe you, leo.

Leo: You do?

Sloan: Yes. I know you didn’t murder abigail dimera and I know you’re too smart to try to kill sonny kiriakis. Someone is trying to set you up, and I want a chance to prove it. Just tell me where you’re at and I’ll come to you.

Leo: Sorry, girlfriend, it’s too late for that.

Sloan: I know it looks bad right now, but trust me. It will look even worse if you try to run. Leo. Are you still there? Leo, listen to me. I’m on your side.

[Sighs]

[Monitor beeping]

Will: [Sighs] Ari made it very clear to me that she’s not happy I was in la for so long. I’m really sorry I wasn’t here. Oh, gabi’s taking ari shopping today and I have a feeling that…

[Sighs] Ari’s gonna be the only elementary school student in designer clothes. And this is when you would say, “will, gabi is ari’s mother and she’s gonna spoil her every once in a while.” And that’s why I need you to wake up. To remind me not to sweat the small stuff.

Chad: And it’s all small stuff.

Will: [Chuckles] How long have you been here?

Chad: Long enough to know that gabi and ari are about to do some damage at the mall. Does arianna know?

Will: No. Gabi wanted to keep it from her until, you know, sonny gets better and I don’t know. I didn’t know what to do, so I just went along with it.

Chad: Well, it’s in the news.

Will: Yeah. Fortunately, ari’s not big on “the spectator.” Gabi’s gonna keep her off social media.

Chad: Okay. Well, I–I just wanted to get a look at him. I’ll leave you guys alone.

Will: Chad. Don’t go yet. Time. It’s life’s most precious commodity,

[Monitor beeping]

Chad: What’s up?

Will: [Sighs] I… I just can’t stop thinking that this is my fault.

Chad: Why?

Will: Sonny was obsessed with breaking up leo and chloe’s dad. And I had, you know, I had a lot of opportunities to get him to back off and I–

Chad: Wouldn’t have worked.

[Sighs] I’ve known sonny for almost as long as you have, and there was no way that he was gonna stand back and let leo scam craig the way he scammed you two.

Will: Yeah, I guess.

Chad: Face it. It’s just the guy you married.

Will: Yes, it is. And I love that guy so much.

[Dramatic music]

Stephanie: I was at the hospital. I haven’t even gotten a chance to see sonny yet. This had damned well better be important.

Victor: How’s sonny doing?

Stephanie: The doctors told justin he’s not out of the woods yet, but he’s stable.

Alex: Well, that’s great. That’s really great.

Stephanie: Will got there right before I left.

Victor: Managed to tear himself away from the city of angels, did he?

Alex: Come on, uncle vic.

Stephanie: So what am i doing here?

Victor: The doctors can take care of sonny. You two can see to it that he doesn’t come back to a company that’s tanked in his absence.

Stephanie: What’s the problem?

Alex: He’s talking about this.

Stephanie: [Gasps] Wow. They didn’t waste any time.

Victor: Wow? That’s all you have to say? You’re being paid a great deal of money to see to this sort of thing.

Stephanie: And I will.

Victor: But not alone. I want a kiriakis to supervise.

Stephanie: Which kiriakis?

Victor: Alex. I want you to put your heads together and work nonstop to salvage the reputation of my company. Is that clear? Is there something going on here that I’m not aware of? Some problem?

Stephanie: No. No problem at all. Alex and I are on it, right?

Alex: You bet.

Victor: Then why are you standing here? Get over to headquarters and get busy.

Maggie: How many of these have you taken?

Jennifer: [Sighs] None. I swear. They give doug 30 at a time. Count them.

Maggie: No, I don’t have to. I believe you.

Jennifer: I was thinking about taking them. I’m glad you didn’t see me going through doug and julie’s medicine cabinet trying to find the empty one. I had to lie through my teeth to get the pharmacist to refill it.

Maggie: How long have you been struggling with this?

Jennifer: God. Honestly, I… ever since I lost my mom.

Maggie: Oh, jennifer. And why didn’t you come and talk to me?

Jennifer: I don’t know. I guess I thought I was handling it. Then all of this happened with abigail.

Maggie: And you ran out of coping skills. Oh, sweetheart, I am so sorry that you’ve been struggling with this. I should have figured out that something was wrong.

Jennifer: I’ve been white-knuckling it, trying to hide the fact that I can barely make it through the day.

[Sniffles] Jack doesn’t have a clue.

[Chuckles]

Maggie: Jack isn’t an addict in recovery. I am, and I should’ve seen the signs. So how long has it been since you’ve gone to a meeting?

Jennifer: Oh, too long.

[Chuckles] I thought about it though. Just the thought though of… having to go and talk about abigail and admit that it made me want to use, just made me feel like such a failure.

Maggie: [Sighs] That’s the disease talking. It makes us feel bad about ourselves for needing help. I’ve been there before. You know you’ve found strength in admitting that you have a weakness.

Jennifer: Well, knowing and believing are clearly two different things.

Maggie: Mm. You were honest with me. That’s the first step.

Jennifer: Well…

Maggie: You know, there’s a meeting at the hospital every day at noon, and if we leave right now, we can just about make it. So what are you gonna do with those?

Jennifer: [Sniffles] Oh.

[Sighs]

Maggie: Second thoughts?

Jennifer: Yeah. But I know this is the right thing to do.

Maggie: Oh, I’m so proud of you.

Jennifer: [Sighs]

Maggie: Okay. Okay, let’s get to that meeting.

Jennifer: Okay.

Maggie: Okay.

Jennifer: [Chuckles]

Sloan: Leo, just tell me where you are. You need somebody by your side– somebody you can trust. Isn’t that why you hired me?

Leo: Chad walked in on me looking at sonny with a knife in his back. I am in major trouble here, sloan, and no offense, but johnnie cochran you are not.

Sloan: You haven’t given me a chance. Just tell me where you are. I’ll be right there. We’re gonna figure this out together.

Leo: Oh. I guess I don’t have a choice. I’m at the white dove motel, room 201. I’ll be under the bed.

Sloan: I’m on my way.

[Cell phone beeps]

Rafe: Well, hold on. Not so fast. Where is he?

Sloan: You want leo stark, well, then you’ll have to give me something that I want. My moderate to severe plaque psoriasis…

Rafe: I’m not bartering with you. We already have a deal in place. You got the information and now, I handle this.

Sloan: I’d never make that deal.

Rafe: What are you trying to pull?

Sloan: Nothing. When I see leo, I’ll recommend that we come in here and he give you a statement.

Rafe: Oh, and I’m supposed to just believe that?

Sloan: I’m not gonna sell out my client.

Rafe: Your client may have already committed one murder and attempted another.

Sloan: “May have” being the operative words. As far as I know, you’re still innocent in this country until proven guilty.

Rafe: You know, I already have enough to bring leo in on suspicion of attempted murder and you damn well know it. Now, you either tell me where he is or you’re gonna spend the night in a holding cell.

Sloan: Okay, but I’m coming with you.

Rafe: Forget it.

Sloan: No, mr. Stark has the right to have his attorney present while you question him and you damned well know that.

Rafe: All right. All right.

Sloan: But if we show up in a squad car, leo’s gonna be gone like the wind.

Rafe: Fine. We’ll take yours. But I’ll drive.

Sloan: [Scoffs]

[Dramatic music]

Leo: [Sighs] Oh, you better make it fast, sloanikins. A sister doesn’t have all day. Announcer: Type 2 diabetes?

Maggie: Hi, darling.

Victor: Oh, good. You’re back.

Maggie: [Sighs] Is there any news on sonny?

Victor: Well, he’s stable, but they have to keep him in the icu. Will’s with him now.

Maggie: So there’s hope. Oh, that’s wonderful, honey.

Victor: Where have you been?

Maggie: Oh, I’m sorry I was so long. I just thought I should stop by and see how jennifer’s doing.

Victor: And?

Maggie: Well, I’m glad I went by. She’s having a really hard time.

Victor: Well, in her situation, who wouldn’t be having a hard time?

Maggie: Exactly. But I think she’s feeling a little bit better now.

Victor: You seem to have that effect on people.

[Soft dramatic music]

Jennifer: [Sighs]

Alex: I just got a text from my dad. He said sonny’s vital signs are still holding steady.

Stephanie: Oh, that’s great.

Alex: Yeah, I guess his condition really improved after will got there to be with him.

Stephanie: Mm, well, I’ll bet so. Those two have something really special going.

Alex: Yeah, they do. I hope I have what they do someday. What are you working on?

Stephanie: The press release announcing you as interim ceo.

Alex: Huh.

Stephanie: Since you’re supervising everything I do, I assume you want to read it.

Alex: Come on. Give me a break.

[Sighs] That is pretty good.

Stephanie: [Scoffs] Pretty good? I made you sound like warren buffett.

Alex: Well, I’m sorry. Why, ms. Johnson, this press release is absolutely amazing.

Stephanie: That’s more like it.

Alex: Hmm. Just like you. Amazing.

Stephanie: Watch it.

Alex: I know. Boundaries.

Stephanie: Exactly.

Alex: I do have to say though, I am quite impressed the way you made my “vast experience cultivating an atmosphere of corporate inclusivity” and my “adeptness at vertical integration” sound almost sexy.

Stephanie: [Scoffs] What can I say? I’m really good at what I do.

Alex: You are not gonna get an argument from me.

[Smacks lips, sighs]

[Knocking on door]

Sloan: Leo. Open up. It’s me. Sloan. Leo, let me in.

Rafe: Let me try.

[Banging on door] Hey, stark! We know you’re in there! Open up the damn door!

[Dramatic music]

Sloan: Oh! Do you have to act like such a neanderthal?

[Scoffs]

[Sighs]

Rafe: All right, what the hell is going on?

Sloan: I don’t know. He told me he’d be here.

Rafe: Okay, well, obviously he lied to you. You still think he’s innocent?

Justin: A picnic. I started to set it up on the patio, but I nearly got eaten alive by mosquitos. So I hope this is okay.

Bonnie: To my thoughtful husband. And here I thought we were gonna have takeout from buddy’s burger barn. And you went and dialed up that romance, cowboy.

Justin: I’ll admit that I may have been influenced by alex. I tell you, my son really seems to know how to impress the ladies.

Stephanie: I should get going, first day on a new job tomorrow.

Alex: You could be late. I’ll write you a note.

Stephanie: [Sighs] Would you just give up? I’m not just gonna fall into your arms because you’re handsome. Maybe that works on other women, but not me.

Alex: She thinks I’m handsome. Yes! Still in the game, baby.

Chloe: What word has an a and an n, but doesn’t end in t?

[Knock on door] Oh, hey, nicole. Glad you’re here. This game drives me crazy. What word starts with an a–

Nicole: Sex.

Rafe: Jada? Hey, thought your shift ended hours ago.

Jada: It did. I’m just taking another look at the suspects in the abigail dimera case.

Rafe: Well, we now have gwen rizczech in custody. Leo stark told us that she confessed to him.

Jada: I know, but I don’t trust that guy.

Leo: Oh, sonny? I forgot to ask, do you validate? The parking rates here–sonny? My hit list. How did this get here? And what is that on it? Blood? Oh, my god, sonny! Sonny! Sonny, can you hear me?

[Panting] He’s dead.

Nicole: So I knock on eric’s door, and jada answers– in a towel.

Chloe: Okay.

Nicole: So she gives me some song and dance about how she’s just taking a shower there because the air conditioning is broken, but what does an a/c being broken have to do–

Chloe: Okay, okay, can we just fast forward to the sex part?

Nicole: Yeah. Yeah, fine. Okay, so I tell her that I was relieved that she was just taking a shower, because when she answered eric’s door in just that towel, I was worried that maybe they slept together.

Chloe: Wait. You didn’t say that, did you?

Nicole: Yeah. Why wouldn’t I?

Chloe: Oh, my god.

Nicole: I was thrown off guard.

Chloe: Nicole, don’t you see how totally inappropriate that is?

Nicole: No, actually, I don’T.

Chloe: Telling the woman that you’re worried that she and eric had slept together? What are you, her mother?

Nicole: Can we drop the sarcasm, please?

Chloe: I just can’t believe you said that to a woman that you hardly know. Whoever she sleeps with, that’s none of your concern.

Nicole: Well, it is my concern who she sleeps with if I care about that person. A person who has been a good friend and I have a long history with.

Chloe: Okay, I don’t care if you’ve known eric since forever. This is a private matter between two people who are or are not having sex.

Chloe: There’s more?

Nicole: Yeah, there’s more. She proceeds to tell me that they did sleep together.

Chloe: Probably ’cause you put her on the spot.

Nicole: You’re missing the point.

Chloe: The point being?

Nicole: That she and eric had sex.

Chloe: Well, good for them.

Nicole: That’s it? That’s all you’re gonna say?

Chloe: What do you want me to say? I’m so glad that jada confided in you, and you now finally know what eric’s and her relationship is, so that you can continue to obsess even more than you’ve been obsessing over this. I’m so happy for you.

Nicole: I am not obsessing. Why are you acting like I’m some kind of head case, and like I’m getting on your last nerve? This is important to me, chloe.

Chloe: I know it’s important. That’s why I’m worried about you. That you’re so freaked out that eric is with someone who isn’t you. And frankly, I don’t know how you’re not embarrassed that you interrogated that woman about her sex life. I’m a little embarrassed just hearing about it.

Nicole: Oh. Wow. Okay, well, forget I brought it up then. I’ll be on my way.

Chloe: Oh, for god’s sakes, don’t leave.

Nicole: Well, I don’t want to embarrass you, so I should go.

Chloe: Oh, fine, I am over my embarrassment. I just have a couple questions. What if eric and jada did have sex?

Nicole: What do you mean “what if” they had sex?

Chloe: What I mean is you should be reacting the same way I am, which is I could care less if they did. You should care less because, like I keep reminding you, you are a married woman.

Nicole: [Scoffs]

Rafe: Well, you are right not to trust leo. The guy would do just about anything to keep himself out of trouble.

Jada: Like point the finger at his best friend.

Rafe: Yeah. I mean, he turned on gwen last time when he gave us the mask. I’m sure that he thought that was gonna be enough to get himself off the hook.

Jada: But trask decided to just charge them both with murder.

Rafe: And suddenly, leo swears that gwen told him that she murdered abigail. Seems a little convenient, wouldn’t you say?

Jada: Yeah, I would. So you agree that you think leo’s making up this confession?

Rafe: Well, it’s certainly possible.

Jada: So then that would mean that gwen could be innocent.

Rafe: Well, I took gwen’s statement myself, and my gut tells me that she was telling the truth, that when she left abigail’s room, abigail was still alive.

Jada: Gwen said she threatened her sister with a syringe, not a knife?

Rafe: That’s right.

Jada: So we know abigail was stabbed to death. And if gwen is telling the truth, then what happened to this knife?

Rafe: That’s a good question.

Leo: Oh, sonny.

Sonny: [Groans]

Leo: [Gasps] You’re alive. Oh, thank god. Now what do I do? I’m gonna help you, that’s what I’m gonna do. Oh, ooh, I can’t, ’cause then they’re gonna think I did it. Ah. Ugh. Stephanie: I know. It feels like I’m playing catch-up with everyone.

Eric: Yeah, well, you missed a lot of what’s going on in salem, right? Not necessarily a bad thing.

Stephanie: Yeah, so I gather. Speaking of, I was really sorry to hear that you and nicole split up.

Nicole: I know that I’m married, chloe. That hasn’t escaped me. But does that mean that I can’t be concerned about eric?

Chloe: Mm, it kind of does.

Nicole: Why? We’re good friends. And we have a long history together.

Chloe: As you keep saying. But that history, nicole, is what’s making your concern fraught.

Nicole: Fraught? Why?

Chloe: Come on, don’t you see what this is? This is dangerous territory. Honey, you are wondering about your ex-husband’s sex life?

Nicole: Well, I’m wondering because he’s in a very vulnerable place right now. I mean, he just left the priesthood.

Chloe: So what?

Nicole: So he’s not ready for anything serious.

Chloe: [Sighs] What are you, his shrink?

Nicole: Did I not already ask you to drop the sarcasm?

Chloe: Okay, what if this is not serious? What if it’s just sex?

Nicole: No, no, it’s– it’s not. It’s never just sex with someone like eric.

Chloe: Ah, here we go.

Nicole: Wh–what do you mean “here we go”? When this first came up, even you said that eric wouldn’t just jump into bed with someone. He wouldn’t do that unless feelings were involved.

Chloe: Well, maybe feelings are involved.

Nicole: That’s why I’m worried. Oh. Nice. First sarcasm and now an eyeroll? Wonderful. Thank you.

Chloe: Nicole, if you were thinking about any of this rationally, which you definitely are not, you would see that your worries and your concerns and your curiosity are wacko given that eric is a grown man, and given that you are a married woman– a newlywed, in fact.

Nicole: Do you know how annoying that is to have that constantly pointed out to me like I’m oblivious to the fact? This has nothing to do with me being married or eric being a grown man. This is about a friend who has made a huge and disorienting change in his life and is involved with a virtual stranger.

Chloe: Well, she’s clearly not a stranger to eric if he’s having sex with her.

Nicole: It’s not “if,” chloe. He is… which is why I think we should hire someone to do a background check on her.

Chloe: On jada?

Nicole: Mm-hmm.

Chloe: Okay, you have lost your mind.

Jada: Finding that murder weapon would answer a lot of questions.

Rafe: Yeah. Yeah, it would. You know, forensics thinks it was a steak knife, one that went missing from the dimera place the night that abigail was murdered.

Jada: Well, if it doesn’t get found, trask is gonna have a really tough time getting a conviction.

Rafe: Oh, yeah, well trask already thinks that she’s gonna be able to get the conviction, especially now that she’s got leo’s testimony in her pocket.

Jada: At best, his testimony is hearsay. At worst, a lie. And all the evidence surrounding gwen is all circumstantial.

Rafe: And I told trask that I believe gwen. It doesn’t matter. She’s on a warpath. She wants a conviction, like, yesterday.

Jada: Even if it’s the wrong person?

Rafe: Yeah. I hear you. And we’re not gonna get justice by rushing through this and convicting the wrong person.

Jada: Well, let’s keep digging.

Rafe: Oh, yeah, we will. It’s just, um, we have to do it carefully.

Jada: Meaning?

Rafe: Meaning we need trask to believe that we are gathering evidence to convict gwen.

Jada: Meanwhile, leo stark is out running around free doing god knows what.

Rafe: Yeah.

Chad: You killed him?

Leo: No! No! He’s still alive!

Leo: I don’t know! I walked in and found him like this.

Jada: That I’m dating your wife’s ex-husband. I mean, I don’t know, that doesn’t seem a little, like, incestuous?

Rafe: Well, in this town, you kind of get used to it.

Jada: Like underground tunnels and secret rooms. In salem, it’s all normal.

Rafe: Mm-hmm. Yeah. For better or worse, it kind of is. You know, in fact, my wife was once married to a guy–twice–who was married to a gal–twice– who I was married to once.

Jada: Okay, I have to wait for my head to stop spinning.

[Laughter] So you don’t see any potential problems here?

Rafe: You mean, as far as nicole’s concerned? Why would there be a problem?

Nicole: So you slept with eric, huh? That’s kind of fast, isn’t it?

Jada: Actually, mrs. Hernandez, it’s been a couple weeks.

Nicole: Don’t you remember I asked you to call me nicole? And yes, I know it’s been a couple of weeks, but as far as I know, you and eric have only been out on one date? Unless, of course, I’m mistaken about that.

Jada: I’m sorry, nicole, but how is this any of your business?

Rafe: Nicole’s not interested in eric’s love life. Why would she be? I mean, yes, right, nicole and eric, obviously, they have a history, but– jada, what is it? There’s something you’re not telling me.

Jada: You know what, I– I think I’m gonna go ahead and call it a night.

Rafe: No, no, no, no. No. ‘Cause you looked worried there for a second. Did eric say something to you?

Jada: It’s all good, boss. Enjoy your evening.

Chloe: Wait, so you want to do a background check on the woman that your ex-husband is dating?

Nicole: Why is that so weird? Like I said, nobody knows anything about jada.

Chloe: We know plenty. Her dad was a respected doctor here in salem. He’s one of steve johnson’s oldest friends.

Nicole: But what about her? Who knows what she could be hiding?

Chloe: Oh, my goodness, do you even hear yourself?

Nicole: Think about it, chloe. How many people have showed up in this town over the years and lied about who they really are and had this dark side that they didn’t want anyone to know about?

Chloe: Ooh. Well, I’m pretty sure that, you know, your husband, the police commissioner, who hired jada–I’m guessing that he probably did a background check to make sure she doesn’t have a secret past of being a serial killer. Come on.

Nicole: I’m not saying she’s a serial killer, okay? I’m just saying that–

Chloe: What? What? What are you saying?

Nicole: I don’t know, okay? I don’t–I don’t know! I don’t know.

Stephanie: I really am sorry it didn’t work out with you and nicole. Must be very painful.

Eric: It was rough at first, you know? But we’ve moved on. I mean, she’s with rafe now. And, you know, I’m dating.

Stephanie: Glad to hear that. And it’s going well?

Eric: It is. You know. What about you? Anyone special?

Stephanie: There was someone last summer, but as soon as september came, he totally ghosted me.

Eric: I’m sorry. But that was a year ago. Maybe it’s time for you to get back out there.

Stephanie: I don’t know. I’ve been mostly focused on work right now. Besides, the only guy who’s shown any real interest in me lately is a total jackass.

Alex: Dad, I’m telling you, stephanie is incredible. She’s like this goddess, yet she’s down-to-earth. And she’s–she’s– she’s cool, and she’s funny, and she’s smart. She’s everything I’ve ever looked for in a woman. I’m telling you, she is the one. I know it.

Justin: Really? I’m a little surprised to hear you say that. I don’t think you’ve ever talked like that about anyone.

Alex: Well, that’s because I’ve never met anybody like stephanie before. Just one problem.

Justin: What’s that?

Alex: Sonny won’t let me anywhere near her.

Bonnie: I thought he bats for the other team.

Alex: No, it’s this work thing. He hired stephanie to do pr for titan, so he’s insisting that I keep it strictly business. So here I am, completely in love, head over heels with this girl, and he’s telling me to back off. Talk about a killjoy.

Chad: What are you doing just standing there? Call an ambulance!

Leo: All right, sorry. I need an ambulance to titan headquarters! Sonny kiriakis was stabbed.

Chad: 12th floor, executive suite. The security will direct them.

Leo: Did you get that? Okay, thank you. They’re on their way. Is he gonna be okay?

Chad: You better hope so. ‘Cause if he dies, you die. -Hi, dr. Rick. It’s julie. -[ Gasps ] That’s me.

Chad: That’s it, sonny, all right, I just need you to hold on, okay? Where is that ambulance?

Leo: It’s on the way.

Chad: Did you really even call one?

Leo: What?

Chad: Well, this is what you wanted, right? Sonny bleeding out on the floor?

Leo: No! No! Chad, I didn’t do this. I showed up and he was like this. I–I came here to apologize!

Chad: Liar! After you lost craig, you made it very clear that you wanted revenge. Gwen told us you were gonna pick us off one by one. Well, you’ve done it.

Leo: No! No! No!

Chad: You killed abby. You stabbed sonny. You are gonna spend the rest of your life in a cage. Better yet, you’ll get the needle and go straight to hell! Where is the ambulance?

Leo: I’m gonna go check!

[Suspenseful music]

Justin: Sonny is being a smart ceo. It’s his job to protect titan.

Alex: And to support his big bro. Shouldn’t he want to see me with the woman of my dreams?

Justin: I’m sure he does. But you weren’t around when leo stark served sonny with a bogus sexual harassment lawsuit.

Alex: I heard all about that.

Justin: Yeah, well, sonny was innocent, obviously, and ultimately cleared, but the experience was devastating. So your brother just wants to keep you from going through the same hell that he did.

Alex: Dad, you really think stephanie would sue me?

Justin: I’d rather not find out.

Alex: Come on, dad, I mean–

Justin: Look, if she didn’t work for titan, I would say woo her to her heart’s content. But as long as she’s an employee of the company, the wisest course of action is to not get involved with her.

Alex: Have I told you how much I love having a lawyer for a father?

Justin: I hope so. Because I can help save you from these landmines that will blow up your life.

Alex: Dad, but–

Justin: I know. I know. I know. I know. I know. But really, my strong advice for you is to stay clear of stephanie.

Bonnie: Okay, with all due respect, I think that’s a load of crap.

Eric: Jackass, huh? What happened?

Stephanie: It’s no big deal. Let’s just–let’s just say the guy can’t take a hint.

Stephanie: No. He’s not a predator or anything like that. He’s just relentless. He asked me to drinks. He asked me to dinner. He practically asked me to marry him. But I completely blew him off. It’s so not worth talking about. I want to hear about the woman you’re dating.

Eric: [Laughs] It’s new. It’s getting to know you kind of thing, you know, so far, so good, and so– actually, she’s right there. Um, stephanie, this is detective jada hunter, and jada, this is my cousin, stephanie johnson.

Stephanie: Nice to meet you. Wait, aren’t you marcus hunter’s daughter?

Jada: That’s right.

Stephanie: Steve and kayla johnson are my parents. I was at your eighth birthday part.

Jada: Uh, well, we really didn’t get a chance to talk this morning, since it was obvious that you needed to have a private conversation with your ex-wife.

Chloe: Nicole, I am not trying to be hard on you. I promise. I just think that you are overreacting.

Nicole: Yeah. So you keep telling me.

Chloe: Yeah, well, it’s not really registering with you.

Nicole: Chloe, I– I told you, I’m–I’m–

Chloe: You have concerns, concerns, I know. I keep hearing that. You are concerned when eric and jada went upstairs after their first date, and you called me a few days later concerned because you can’t stop thinking about eric.

Nicole: Yeah, I had a sex dream. Excuse me if I wanted to share it with someone I trust.

Chloe: Well, I’m glad that you did, but you also felt the need to share that with eric, over my very strong objections. I mean, come on, did you even see him?

Nicole: Yes. He came up the stairs with his toolbox while I was talking to jada.

Chloe: And?

Nicole: And, you know, she went back to her room to–to get dressed.

Chloe: Then what?

Nicole: Well, then– then eric asked me what I was doing there, and I told him I had a dream about him this morning.

Chloe: Oh. Oh, no, no, no.

Nicole: All right, relax. Relax. I chickened out. I chickened out about the sex part. Okay, and I told him that, in the dream, he came over to my house to make sloppy joes.

Chloe: Oh, wow, that might be even worse. Did he buy any of that?

Nicole: I don’t know. I think he did. But then–but then, he mentioned to me that he had a dream also. And in the dream, I knocked on his door to deliver a singing telegram. Oh–oh, my god.

Chloe: What?

Nicole: Well, if I lied about my dream, what if eric lied about his? What if he had a sex dream too? My asthma felt anything but normal.

Nicole: I mean, what if eric did what I did? What if he had a sex dream and lied about it?

Chloe: Well, I guess it’s possible. But that would be a huge coincidence.

Nicole: Oh. What, a bigger coincidence than us dreaming about each other on the same morning?

Chloe: Definitely. I mean, I dream about the people in my life all the time.

Nicole: Okay, so then it’s more likely for eric to dream of me delivering him a singing telegram than me giving him–

Nicole: Right? It’s not so much of a stretch. It makes sense.

Chloe: Okay, well, I guess there’s really only one way to settle this.

Nicole: Okay, what’s that?

Chloe: Uh, get your phone and call him right now.

Eric: I’m sorry about this morning. I mean, I had no idea nicole was gonna stop by.

Jada: What was she doing here anyway?

Eric: She stopped by to pick up some takeout, you know? And she was here, and so she wanted to just see how I was doing.

Eric: It was just a friendly visit.

Jada: You sure about that?

Eric: I am. But obviously, you’re not.

Jada: No, I’m not. Uh, it’S… you know what, it’s none of my business, but let’s just drop it.

Eric: No, no, no. Let’s not. Please, if there’s something you need to tell me, just say it.

Jada: You know I told nicole that you and I slept together, right? Well, she just seemed a little too interested in that fact. And, I mean, especially since she is married to someone else.

Rafe: Stephanie?

Stephanie: Oh, that was a very nice, appropriate hug.

Stephanie: I was just remembering the time that your lookalike, “fake rafe,” got a little handsy.

Bonnie: I’m sorry, but you’re dead wrong on this one, hon.

Bonnie: Oh, please. People these days are so afraid to take a chance that they are losing that one chance at real love. Who cares if someone sues you for sexual harassment?

Justin: How can you say that after what happened with harrison?

Bonnie: That was a completely different situation, justin. And so is what happened to sonny. Alex is not a creep. He’s not a con. He’s a good man with a good heart. And he thinks he found the person he belongs with.

Alex: I don’t even just think it. I know it.

Bonnie: See? There you have it. And if you are lucky enough to find that one person in this world that you belong with, well, you can’t just let that person go. You gotta hang on. What if I didn’t take that chance and kiss you that day? Aren’t you glad I did?

Justin: Of course. But you and I don’t work together. Plus, there’s a big difference between taking a chance and ignoring what stephanie wants.

Bonnie: Well, obviously if it’s a no-go, alex backs off. Look, all I’m saying is, I laid it all on the line, and my reward is I got the best thing that ever happened to me. Who are we to say that your son shouldn’t do the same, hm?

Alex: Have I also told you how much I love having bonnie as a stepmother? Oh, my god.

[Cell phone ringing]

Justin: You can enlighten me after I take this call. Hey, chad. What’s up?

Chad: Justin. I’m sorry. I have bad news.

Rafe: So how long are you in town for?

[Cell phone ringing] Oh, my–I’m sorry. I–yep, I have to take this. Hernandez. What? Yeah, I’ll be right there.

Stephanie: Bad news?

Rafe: Yeah, you could say that. Your cousin, sonny, has been stabbed.

Justin: Thanks, chad. We’ll be right there.

Bonnie: Justin, you’re white as a sheet. What’s wrong?

Justin: Sonny’s been stabbed.

Bonnie: What? Oh, my god, honey!

Alex: Is he okay?

Justin: I don’t know. Chad found him in the office. The paramedics are taking him to the hospital right now.

Alex: I’m gonna grab the car.

Nicole: I am not calling eric.

Chloe: I know. I was just saying that to make a point, namely that you need to get a grip.

Nicole: Well, thank you, chloe, for all your understanding and support.

Chloe: I’m just trying to make you see that you’re acting like a crazy person.

Nicole: You know what, maybe I–maybe I shouldn’t have come here.

Chloe: No, look, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that to you. I know that having jada in the picture has been really difficult for you. But you have to see what you’re doing. I mean, have you thought of what could happen if jada goes to rafe and tells him how overly interested you are in eric?

Nicole: That is not gonna happen.

Chloe: How do you know that? She came right out and told you that they’d slept together, so she’s clearly very direct. Nicole, I love you. You are my best friend. But I have to be honest with you. Rafe is your husband. Now, I’m not saying that you have to stay in that marriage. But you have to make a decision. You either end your marriage, or you work on it. But whatever choice you make, you have to decide. And you can’t keep obsessing about eric.

Eric: So what did nicole say?

Jada: Nothing. It was–it was just a little awkward.

Eric: Yeah, I can imagine. Listen, we were supposed to have breakfast this morning, but that didn’t happen. And I’d like to make up for that. Have you had dinner yet?

Jada: I haven’t, actually.

Eric: Well, I do have some connections, and I can whip up a grilled cheese, some fries, maybe a milkshake?

Jada: Mmm, that sounds–

[Cell phone ringing] Oh, hold that thought. Hunter. I’ll be right there. Listen, gonna have to take a raincheck on dinner. I gotta get back to work.

[Dramatic music]

Rafe: How’s sonny?

Chad: They just took him to the hospital. I should probably get there.

Rafe: I have a few questions. Promise it’ll just take a minute. Sonny was in the office when you found him?

Chad: Yeah, when I walked in, he was lying right there with a knife in his back.

Rafe: Anyone else here?

Chad: Yeah, someone standing over him.

Rafe: Who?

Chad: Leo stark.

Leo: How could this have happened again? Oh, my god, sonny! Wait. The knife. Holy–it was the same knife!

Rafe: Well, it looks like you were right.

Rafe: About leo stark. Chad dimera found him standing here over sonny kiriakis, who had a knife in his back.

Jada: A knife?

Rafe: Yeah. And it looks like we might have found the murder weapon in the abigail dimera case.

Leo: It was the same knife. My hit list. How did this get here? And how did my list get there?

Rafe: And there’s this too.

Jada: What is it?

Rafe: Leo’s hit list. Gwen said that leo kept a list of all the people he wanted to get back at. Looks like he just checked off another one.

Leo: This doesn’t make any sense. I never crossed off sonny’s name. Oh, my god! I’m being framed!

Orpheus: Good evening, gentlemen. Let the games begin. As you know, I have marlena, kayla, and kate hidden. Somewhere. But, generous soul that I am, I’m gonna give you three a chance to save them. To do so, you’ll have to solve a series of puzzles, which will give you clues you’ll need to discover the location. You’ll have to work quickly, though, because if you fail to achieve your mission within… one hour, well, then something very, very unfortunate will befall the women you love.

Steve: What the hell does that mean?

John: We’re on a time limit, men. Because he’s telling us he’s got a bomb.

Roman: Do you guys notice anything in that room that gives away their location?

Steve: Not a thing.

John: And he just made sure that we won’t see anything. All right, guys, we don’t have a choice here. Let’s roll our sleeves up and play his lousy game.

Kayla: What I don’t get is why are you here?

Kate: [Huffs] Because I was at the pub today when orpheus showed up. He must have realized that roman and I were back together again.

Marlena: You are?

Kate: Yes, we are.

Marlena: Hmm.

Kate: And since orpheus holds roman responsible for his wife’s death, he’s probably using me to punish roman.

Kate: I had just left roman’s birthday party to pick him up a cake, and someone comes up behind me and shoves a cloth over my mouth.

Kate: Okay. The point is I made amends to the community. And…and to roman. So why don’t you tell your friend here that she should forgive me?

Even after I yelled again, “identify yourself or I will shoot,” nothing. I said it again, louder. “Identify yourself right now, or I will shoot”–nothing. So I fired in the direction of the noise. You know the rest. So, I’m telling you, the year he wants is 1979.

John: This lockbox here– four-digit combination. What do you want to do? You want to take a stab at 1979?

Steve: Whoa, what if we’re wrong? Will we get another shot?

Roman: Three women’s lives are hanging in the balance here, and he’s playing this like it’s an escape room. Put 1979 in there in that lock, see if it opens.

John: All right, we’re on it. Brace yourself. Nice! Good job, roman, all right.

Steve: That’s good, because we still don’t know where our wives are or what kind of bomb we’re dealing with, and we’ve only got an hour.

Roman: Less than that now. Alright, the reason your dishes

John: “Because of you three, I lost valuable time with the people I love most in the world. So you can count on the same thing happening to you if you fail to…decipher this puzzle. All roads lead back to those broken bonds.”

Steve: Okay, we know the people he’s talking about are his wife rebecca, his kids evan and zoey. We just need to figure out what to do with that information.

John: Yeah, well, we don’t have anything else to go on. There’s no more lockboxes here, and all we got is a tin snips, probably to diffuse the bomb.

Steve: What now, mr. Escape room?

Roman: I think the key word is “count,” as in we need to convert the letters of his loved ones’ names into numbers.

John: You know, I think you’re right. “Count.” Because he uses the word “decipher,” as in cipher.

Steve: Okay, how much time do we have?

John: Less than half an hour.

Steve: We gotta work fast. Okay.

John: Work your magic, patch. Come on.

Steve: Evan. Zoey.

Kate: What the hell, kayla? Well, what difference does it make? I mean, it’s up to marlena anyway. You know, kayla’s never liked me. But I thought that you and I had a relationship. We were friends. At least I thought we were.

Now, if they succeed in solving it, it will lead them here, which gives your white knights a fighting chance at saving you…before the bomb goes off.

Orpheus: The one in the electrical panel to your right. I gave them a time limit and, sadly, they aren’t here yet. And time is growing short. I don’t think they’re gonna make it, ladies. So, I wanted to wish you all a fond farewell. It was fun while it lasted.

Chloe: Oh, honey, I’m sorry, I didn’t see you there.

Rachel: You didn’t want me to hear what you just said, but I did. She’s trying to keep me away from mommy.

Brady: No, no. No, no, no, sweetie, she’s not. She’s not trying to keep you away from mommy.

Rachel: I heard her. You’re lying to me.

Brady: Baby, no. I would not lie to you, okay? You will–you will get to see mommy.

Rachel: Promise?

Brady: I promise.

Rachel: Then call her right now.

[Upbeat music]

Belle: Shawn.

Shawn: [Grunts]

Belle: Hey, shawn.

Shawn: Sorry. I didn’t hear you come in.

Belle: Didn’t you go to the gym this morning?

Shawn: I felt like doing more.

Belle: Okay, I’ll go make dinner while you finish.

Shawn: Look, wait. There was– there was a phone call for you on the landline. It was ej.

Belle: Oh?

Shawn: Yeah. Apparently, there’s some, I don’t know, urgent dimera shareholder meeting, and he needs your– he needs your input. So I don’t know. You’re gonna have to call him back because I didn’t take any notes.

Belle: Wait.

Shawn: Wait. Aren’t you supposed to be making a phone call?

Belle: I don’t want to talk to ej. I want to talk to you.

[Soft dramatic music]

Ej: I’d like to move that ava vitali–

Ava: Ava dimera.

Ej: Ava vitali be disqualified as a shareholder and removed from this meeting.

Ava: Disqualified? What are you talking about?

Gabi: Yeah, ej, what exactly are you trying to pull?

Ej: I’m not trying to pull anything. I’m trying to protect the future of this company.

Kristen: [Sighs] And voter suppression is so effective.

Wei: With all due respect, ej, the bylaws are very clear in regards to this kind of situation. As jake dimera’s widow, she’s entitled to this shares and vote. Why should she be disqualified?

Ej: Because she sees dead people.

[Dramatic music]

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Brady: Rachel, I’m not gonna call mommy right now.

Rachel: You promised.

Brady: Sweetie, I promised that I would never lie to you, and I won’T. The truth is that your mommy, she did something that she shouldn’t have done. And I know this is very hard for you to understand, but when you go to court and you have to testify, you have to take this oath. An oath is like a–it’s like a pinky swear. You have to swear to tell the truth, and chloe–chloe has to do that.

Rachel: But if she says something bad about mommy, they’ll send her away again. Daddy, don’t let her do this!

[Soft dramatic music]

Ava: I can’t believe this. Oh no, no, actually, I can. And I do. This emergency shareholders meeting was all orchestrated by you, wasn’t it, ej?

Ej: Ava, I can’t tell you how sorry I am, but I have no choice. Everyone at this meeting needs to know what’s been going on. Everyone, I regret to have to tell you that ava’s been hallucinating. She’s been seeing her dead husband.

Wei: Is this true?

Ej: She claims that he rang our doorbell last night, and she touched him and he was real, and when I suggested that she was suffering some post-traumatic stress, she admitted I was right.

Ava: You bastard.

Ej: Ava, you need help.

Ava: Oh, what I need is a tire iron.

Ej: Threatening me only confirms what I’ve been saying, ava. You’re not in control.

Ava: No, I’m mad.

Ej: Your words, not mine. Now, of course, none of this is her fault. We can all see how traumatized she is. We as a family will do everything we can to help her find her way back, but we can’t in good conscious allow this woman to make decisions on the future of the company.

Ava: Right, ’cause it’s a matter of conscious.

Ej: So, mr. Shin, as chairman of the board, you need to make the determination to disqualify her from voting. We cannot have a hallucinating, emotionally unstable woman voting her dead husband’s shares.

Tony: But I wonder, is there someone here that can take her place?

Rolf: I am taking you on a journey back in time, and at the end of the journey, you will loathe gabi hernandez, which is the only rational reaction to the woman. And so I want you to remember the last time you saw her, when you were deeply in love with your wife.

Stefan: Oh, my god, my mother’s text couldn’t have come at a worse time. I am sorry to leave you like this.

Gabi: It’s okay. Go deal with vivian and just hurry back, okay, so we can start the rest of our lives.

Stefan: Okay, just promise me you’re gonna keep this bed warm for me.

Gabi: Yes, please be careful.

Stefan: I will. I love you, gabi.

[Eerie music]

Rolf: I will assume you just had an oh-so-sweet memory. Let’s see what we can do about that.

Gabi: You’re enjoying this, aren’t you?

Ej: Far from it. It’s my duty, but a sad one.

Kristen: Really, ej? This is too much.

Tony: Now, that’s rich coming from you.

Kristen: She just lost her husband. I mean, she’s grieving. That doesn’t make her incompetent.

Ej: She’s seeing people that aren’t there. What if she starts investing in companies that aren’t there?

Kristen: She’s seeing people who aren’t there, according to you. And unless you have a psychiatrist who’s examined her waiting out there in the outer office to corroborate your assertions, it seems to me to be a naked power play, based on totally unsubstantiated accusations.

Wei: What do you have to say to that, mr. Dimera? Do you have any evidence to back up the claim?

Ava: No, there isn’t any because the son of a bitch is lying through his teeth.

Ej: Well, let’s just see about that, shall we? Moderate to severe eczema still disrupts my skin.

Brady: Mommy’s not going anywhere, okay?

Chloe: Rachel, listen, I don’t want to hurt you, and I don’t have to go to court.

Rachel: I hate you! Make her go away now!

[Soft dramatic music]

Shawn: Thought you said you were gonna start dinner, hmm?

Belle: Shawn, I know you. You’re not working out. You’re working out your anger.

Shawn: What anger?

Belle: Oh, come on. We both know that ej never calls the landline. He just did that to goad you.

Shawn: What, you mean treating me like I’m your personal secretary? Hey, belle, it’s totally fine, right? I’m fine with it, all right?

Belle: Stop it!

Shawn: Okay, stop what? Stop what? Huh? What?

Belle: It means the world to me that you let me move back in here, and that we’re under the same roof, and we’re having dinner together, but I hate all of this tiptoeing around each other and making small talk when there is so much we’re not saying. And then every night, we go to bed, we say goodnight, and you go off to our bedroom– well, your bedroom– and I go to claire’s bedroom.

Shawn: Okay, what do you want to do? You want to switch bedrooms? We can switch rooms.

Belle: No, I want you to scream at me! I want you to throw me out! But don’t do this.

[Sighs] I slept with ej, and there is nothing I can do to take that back, and the fact that he called the landline here instead of my cell makes me want to shove that phone down his throat, so I can only imagine how it made you feel. But I did not move back in here to be your roommate. You said that you thought that you could get past what happened, and, I don’t know, maybe you can’T. Maybe it was just too much to ask.

Ava: I don’t think anyone in this room would be surprised to hear that ej dimera is a liar. I mean, ask his sister. He’d say anything to get what he wants.

Kristen: It’s a family trait.

Ava: He only called this meeting here today because he wants to take away my vote because I made it very clear to him that I would not be his rubber stamp.

Ej: [Chuckles] Okay, now that’s a lie.

Ava: Okay, let me make something clear to all of you. I never hallucinated. I live with the ever-present knowledge that my dear jake is dead, and he’s not coming back. Ej made up this little ghost story, but he doesn’t have, as his sister said, one shred of evidence.

Ej: None? How about another eyewitness?

Wei: Someone else saw this?

Ej: Mm-hmm. Your son, and your ceo, ms. Gabi hernandez.

Gabi: Mrs. Gabi dimera.

Rolf: Moving right along. Now, let’s go back to the nauseating moment when you first decided you were in love with the wench.

Stefan: Did I hate you? Sure, but I saw underneath that, that there was more, and that everything about you, all the deviousness, the passion, the treachery, the genius–all those qualities are exactly what caused me to fall for you.

Gabi: You fell for me?

Stefan: Yes. I should have admitted it before now, but my pride, my ego wouldn’t let me do it. But I’m done with all that now. If we never get out of here, I’m not leaving anything unfinished. That’s why I’m laying it all out on the line. I care for you, gabi hernandez, and I’m done pretending I don’T.

Gabi: Oh, my god, oh, my god. I am going to hate myself for this so much more than I hate you. You’re right, okay? You’re right. I can’t keep pretending. Dammit, stefan, I feel the same way that you do.

Stefan: [Chuckles]

Rolf: It will be a pleasure to annihilate that particular memory.

[Machine beeping rapidly]

[Dramatic music]

Ej: So, you see, mr. Shin, your son and your ceo were both there when it happened. They saw everything, so you don’t need to take my word for it.

Wei: Is it true, mrs. Dimera? Were you there when ava thought she saw her late husband?

Gabi: I don’t even know how to answer that.

Ej: Oh, I don’t know. How about the truth?

Gabi: I mean, “was I there when ava imagined her late husband?” Is so loaded. I was there last night, but I didn’t see ava hallucinate. Maybe it was ej that was hallucinating. Maybe he came up with this crap because he wants to force me out as ceo. What am I saying? He would never do something so underhanded.

Wei: Son, were you there last night? Did you see anything?

[Soft dramatic music]

Stefan: [Gasps] Oh.

Son, I need an answer now.

Wei: And?

Li: I can state categorically that ej is lying.

Ej: [Chuckles] He’s just backing her up. They’re both lying.

Wei: At this point, we have three major shareholders who insist that your allegations are false. Now, everyone including i understand your ambitions. It’s no secret that you want to be the ceo again.

Tony: No!

Ej: Mr. Shin, just for clarification’s sake, the three major shareholders who say that I’m lying are ava dimera, gabi dimera, and your son, li shin.

Kristen: Did that just go over your head, ej?

Ej: Oh, I just want it in the record before I play this.

Johnny: Yeah. Yeah, she told me she saw jake.

Ej: And what exactly did she say?

Johnny: Just that it felt real. You know, she touched his face. She was sure it was him. But she couldn’t explain what was happening. She thought she must have been maybe hallucinating.

Ej: So, you see, I’m not the only one. Ava herself admitted it to my son johnny.

Johnny: You recorded me.

Ej: I had a feeling that ava might deny what happened. I apologize to you both, but I didn’t have a choice.

[Dramatic music]

Brady: Hey. Everything is gonna be okay. You gotta believe me, everyone, including chloe, just wants what’s best for you. You have my word on that, okay?

Rachel: Okay.

Brady: I know you’re upset. I know. Do you want me to go tell nora jane’s mom that you want to do a playdate another day?

Rachel: No, I want to go.

Brady: Want to go? Okay, well, it looks like they’re getting ready to leave, so do you want to go say your goodbyes, and I’ll be right there, okay?

Brady: I’m sorry. I’m really sorry about that.

Chloe: I’m sorry too. It’s fine. Just go.

Brady: Looks like I’m going to–I’m gonna have to talk to belle. All right, I’ll be back as soon as I can.

Shawn: Look, I don’t–look, I don’t know what to say. You know, I just, I heard his voice, and I just–I couldn’t stop thinking about his hands on you.

Belle: I am so sorry.

Shawn: Look, even–even if he didn’t call, belle, I–look, I can’t just– I can’t just get over this, okay? I…I know that this isn’t what you’re gonna want to hear, but I just… I just need more time.

Belle: No.

Shawn: No, what?

Belle: No. I don’t think that’s true.

Rolf: So time to alter your emotional makeup just a bit. Instead of lusting for gabi hernandez, you will be repulsed by her. This may hurt a little bit.

Gabi: You think that I want you?

Stefan: It’s obvious.

Gabi: You destroyed my life. You framed me for murder, kidnapped me, put a hot poker in my face.

Stefan: None of that changes the fact that you want me. I’m not sure this is such a good idea.

Gabi: Yeah, probably not. I don’t really know what I was thinking. Even though sometimes you do show another side, you still are an arrogant jackass.

Stefan: And you–see, I may be an arrogant jackass, but I am way too much of a gentleman to tell you what you are.

Gabi: You know what, maybe it was just sex, and maybe it wasn’t terrible, but you still don’t get to treat me like some random dimera whore.

Stefan: Pity that all you have to offer is sex.

Gabi: It’s a pity you didn’t have more to offer.

Stefan: You are such a clever girl, gabi. Such fire in your eyes. That mouth on you? It’s really a shame that all you’ve got is dust around that shell of a heart of yours.

Gabi: You are unbelievable. Stefan?

Stefan: Yeah.

Gabi: Don’t insult me again!

Stefan: Yeah? What are you gonna do about it?

[Dramatic music]

Wei: You lied to me.

Ej: He’s been spending a lot of time with gabi.

Wei: Mr. Dimera, I think you’ve said enough. And I’ve heard enough to make a decision. It’s pretty clear after hearing the recording that what ej said is true, but I am not removing you from this meeting. It would be too disruptive, but I will be prohibiting you from voting your shares until a determination can be made of your mental state.

Tony: Checkmate.

Shawn: Whoa, whoa. What are you doing?

Belle: Shawn, no matter when this happens, it’s gonna be awkward, and I don’t think we should just sit around and wait for the perfect time. Okay, let’s go upstairs and make love.

Shawn: Oh, that’s your solution to everything, isn’t it, huh?

Belle: What? That’s not fair.

Shawn: Okay, you know what? You should be careful when you use that word. Just like it wasn’t fair when you went off and you crawled into bed with ej. Oh, god.

Brady: Sorry. I actually did knock. You obviously didn’t hear me, but belle, could you just call me when you get a chance?

Shawn: No, no. Brady, don’t–don’t go, all right? Look, I was just trying to work out, but you know what, I think I’m gonna go on a run instead, so. Good to see you.

Brady: You too.

[Soft dramatic music]

Rolf: The marriage wasn’t a love match at the beginning, but judging by how you went flying to see the woman when you escaped, it grew into one, but today is the last day of your love story.

[Chuckles]

Dum, dum, de dum what god hath joined together, let dr. Rolf zap asunder.

Gabi: Yes. I do.

[Eerie music]

Ej: I move that we remove ms. Gabi hernandez–dimera– as ceo and install me in her place.

Kristen: Those are two separate and distinct motions.

Ej: Why waste time? Everyone here knows that the vote is merely just a formality. The last vote on this matter was a six-six tie, which allowed gabi to remain on as ceo, but her side just lost a vote, which means the majority is no longer in her favor. She will have to step down, and we need to install her replacement as quickly as possible. So, to that end, we need to vote immediately.

Johnny: You might not want to do that, dad. The vote, I don’t know, might not go the way you planned it.

Tony: Another county heard from.

[Dramatic music]

Announcer: Type 2 diabetes?

Chloe: Hey, shawn.

Shawn: Hey, chloe.

Chloe: Hey. I know that brady was just on his way to go see belle. Do you know if she’s at home?

Shawn: Yeah. No, he’s there talking to her now.

Chloe: Oh, okay, good. I know that you two are trying to work things out, and he wouldn’t interrupt unless it was really important.

Shawn: Yeah, no, he didn’t interrupt. The truth is we aren’t working anything out.

Belle: Well, I guess it was pretty naive to think I could just move back in here and everything would fall back into place.

Brady: I was hoping it would.

Belle: Yeah, the truth is I just think that, you know, the marriage is a lost cause. He just can’t get over the fact that I slept with ej. But you did not come here to talk about my problems. I’m sorry, what’s–what’s up?

Brady: It’s–it’s kristen. Belle, she has-she has filed for full custody. I just got served.

Kristen: I think johnny has something to say, ej.

Johnny: I do. See, you just said, as if it were a given, that the vote would be six-five in your favor, but, well, how do you know without the vote?

Kristen: Someone counted their chickens before they hatched?

Johnny: Let me save you some time by telling you that I’m switching my vote. I’m voting for gabi.

Ej: No.

Johnny: Oh, yes. See, I think what you did to ava just now was disgusting. She’s suffering. She’s in real pain, and you saw that as a liability, as a means to an end, just like when your own son confided in you, you thought to yourself, “hmm, let’s get this on tape. Might come in handy.” So let’s cut to the chase, mr. Shin. I know that your time is valuable, and I know that you’ve traveled a long way for this meeting, so I would like to state for the record I vote against the motion. That’s gabi, kristen, shin, their two proxies, and me. Six votes to your five gabi stays.

Gabi: Thank you, johnny. I know it stuck in your craw last time I won because it was a tie. This time, it’s a majority. I won, and you–you lost after you wasted a great deal of all of our time.

Ej: [Chuckles] I won’t forget this.

[Chuckles]

[Soft dramatic music]

Time. It’s life’s most precious commodity,

Belle: So kristen hired sloan petersen as her attorney. She’s a shark. And we can’t use any of kristen’s past crimes against her because she’s been pardoned.

Brady: Past. That would–that would be before the pardon.

Belle: That’s right.

Brady: Well, just so happens that kristen threatened to stab chloe with a letter opener just a couple days ago. That was after the pardon.

Belle: Well, that’s great. I mean, not great, but that’s gonna make compelling testimony.

Brady: Well, there’s another problem with that. You see, my daughter rachel overheard chloe and me talking about her testifying against kristen, and it made rachel very upset, and now chloe is nervous that if she testifies against kristen, rachel’s just gonna hate her.

Belle: Yeah.

Brady: Yeah.

Belle: Knowing kristen, that’s probably why she did that. You know, she’s just trying to cause tension and make chloe the bad guy, but brady, just because she’s filed for full custody does not mean she’s gonna get it. Worst-case scenario, you share custody. And you’re okay with that, right?

Brady: [Chuckles] As long as it means I don’t lose rachel altogether, sure.

Belle: No judge is ever gonna give kristen full custody. Don’t worry. Everything’s gonna work out for you.

Brady: And everything’s gonna work out for you and shawn too.

Chloe: Listen, shawn, I’ve been on both sides of this kind of situation, and I know it sucks, but you have to ask yourself, are you really trying to work things out with belle, or are you just trying to punish her? I mean, if you didn’t think you were capable of forgiving her, then was it a good idea to ask her to move back in?

Shawn: You’re right.

Chloe: I mean, belle has said and done everything she can. The ball, as they say, is in your court. So you have to make a decision, one way or the other.

Tony: [Sighs] Well, you tried.

Ej: I’m not done. This is not over.

Ava: Well, I guess it was my own damn fault forgetting that you aren’t human, forgetting that you can never be trusted, forgetting that you will happily use the most horrible thing that has ever happened to a person to bring them to their knees.

Ej: Pack your things and get the hell out of my house.

Ava: What?

Ej: You’re no longer of any use to me. Get out.

Johnny: Just so you know, pops, if she does, I do too.

[Soft dramatic music]

Gabi: Thank you so much for your support.

Kristen: Mm, remember, you’re still only one vote away from ej taking over again.

Gabi: Yeah, trust me, ej’s not gonna let me forget that. Excuse me. I gotta do some damage control.

Kristen: Me too.

Wei: I will never forget that you lied to my face.

Gabi: So did I.

Wei: You didn’t have to remind me.

Li: Doesn’t it matter why we lied? Ej was using ava’s grief to seize power. Is that the kind of person you want running this company?

Wei: Think about the person that founded this company. A high moral character was never a requirement for this job. You’re not above reproach.

Li: But she’s doing an incredible job.

Wei: I’ll make up my own mind about that. Let me remind you that you didn’t get your shares or position of ceo because of merit. You got them because your husband died. Don’t forget that.

[Eerie music]

Rolf: And now, deeper into your past, it’s time for you to remember the voluptuous chloe lane in all her splendor.

Ej: There’s no reason for her to be here. This is our family home.

Ej: Who has sponged off us while poisoning my own son against me.

Johnny: Look, I didn’t say you have to let her stay here. I just said, if she goes, so do I. It’s completely up to you.

Tony: Count to ten, ej. You don’t want to lose your son over this.

Ej: Fine. She can stay.

Ava: Oh, that sounds lovely, but I think I’d like to freshen up first.

Ej: [Screams]

Ava: Oh, thank you. Thank you for standing up for me back there. I do not think I could handle having to look for another place to live right now.

Johnny: Now you don’t have to.

Ava: That’s quite a risk you took. You could have been out on your ass too.

Johnny: Well, it wasn’t completely unselfish. I like having you around.

Li: I’m sorry. My father shouldn’t speak to you like that.

Gabi: It’s okay. I’ve got a tough skin when it comes to business. I just–I don’t want him to be angry with you.

Li: Oh, it’ll blow over.

Gabi: Thank you. And thank you for backing me up. I know it wasn’t easy to lie to your father.

Li: Don’t you know by now? I’d do anything for you.

[Tender music]

Kristen: So how did it go?

Rolf: It’s working. When he comes to, he won’t want anything to do with gabi hernandez ever again. He’ll only have eyes for chloe lane.

Chloe: Oh, hey.

Brady: Hi. So, I talked to belle. According to her, we don’t need you to testify.

Chloe: Oh.

Brady: Yeah.

Chloe: Okay, well, I just hate that you’re going through this.

Brady: I hate it, too, obviously, but I figure the worst-case scenario is that I have to share custody with kristen. I mean, I guess I could live with that, but it’s probably the best thing for rachel, anyway.

Chloe: Mm, I hope you’re right.

Brady: I hope I’m right too. Hey, there’s no reason to worry. There is nothing that kristen can do to come between us.

[Soft dramatic music]

Belle: Hey, listen, I’m so glad you came back. I’ve been thinking, and I’m really sorry. I tried to force the issue, and I pushed too hard.

Shawn: No, no, don’t, don’t, don’T. Don’t apologize. You were right. I– this–this isn’t working.

Belle: Oh.

Shawn: I mean, it’s, like, you know, like, us. Like, living–living together again, like this. It just–oh, my god, why? Look, I don’t know how to say this.

Belle: But you think it was a bad idea–

Shawn: Because, yeah, damn it, like, it’s, like–like–oh, my gosh, why am–why am I having so much trouble trying to find these words right now? I just–

Belle: You know what, I think you should just go take a shower, and we’ll still have dinner. We’ll talk about the cubs, and in the morning, I will go pack my stuff and–

Ej: Oh, you weren’t worried that might be a waste of time?

Tony: What does that mean?

Ej: Didn’t you hear? Our dearly departed brother is still alive.

[Suspenseful music]

Ava: You’re alive? You’re really alive? Oh, my god.

[Door clicks open] Jake?

[Machinery beeping]

[Cell phone rings]

Rolf: Yes, mr. Shin?

Shin: Why haven’t you been answering your phone, rolf? I’ve been calling since last night.

Rolf: Yes, well, I’ve been otherwise occupied. Stefan’s currently blissfully unconscious, but it’s been quite an effort to keep him that way.

Shin: Well, you better do what it takes. That was a close call at the mansion. Thanks god it was ava who answered the door and not someone else.

Rolf: Yes, that’s a pure stroke of luck that she mistook stefan for jake, or our undead friend’s escape would have been catastrophic!

Shin: I’m not cleaning up your mess again, rolf. Next time stefan wakes up, he better be completely over his feelings for gabi.

Gabi: What about me?

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Kristen: Did I just hear you say that my brother escaped your custody?

Rolf: Li, I have to go.

[Cell phone beeps]

Kristen: I have put my whole future in your hands, and you can’t keep tabs on a half-dead man?

Rolf: As you can see, he’s right here.

Kristen: Yeah, but he wasn’t, was he? And you didn’t tell me.

Rolf: Li and I had the situation well in hand.

Kristen: Ah, ooh! Please just tell me that you have managed to make progress on getting stefan to forget his feelings for gabi. Is he feeling romantic towards chloe lane?

Rolf: I’m afraid there may be a small problem on that front.

Shin: Gabi, hi.

Gabi: Did I just hear my name?

Shin: Oh, uh, yes. I was speaking to my father. He wanted a status update.

Gabi: On what?

Shin: Everything. Me, the company, us.

Gabi: Us? Wait, but what did you tell him?

Shin: The truth, that I’m head over heels for you.

Gabi: I hope he approves.

Shin: He wasn’t thrilled at first. He was worried that our relationship would get in the way of business. But he can’t argue with success. Company’s doing better than ever when it comes to product releases, stock prices way up.

Gabi: Yeah, I mean, if you don’t count basic black. Nobody there’s happy since kristen forced me to put her in charge.

Shin: Is she still making chloe’s life a living hell?

Gabi: Every single day. You know, I wish there was something I could do, but kristen stood up for me at the shareholders’ meeting, so I gotta keep her happy. Unfortunately, we do have the matter of ava vitali.

Shin: Mm.

[Door shuts]

Ava: Oh, it’s you.

Johnny: Wow, uh, never seen that much disappointment on a woman’s face, geez.

Ava: I’m sorry. Sorry, I just, um, I wasn’t expecting you.

Johnny: Yeah, I was just– I was out for a run on the grounds when I saw the door of the crypt open– freaked me out a little bit. No disrespect to the dead or anything, it’s just, uh, last time I was in here, satan was hanging out right over there by that sarcophagus, so…

Ava: Yeah, well, I haven’t seen him here today.

Johnny: What–what are you doing out here?

Ava: Your family just put up the plaque for jake, and so even though we’re waiting on the medical examiner for his ashes and he hasn’t been interred yet, I feel close to him in here.

Johnny: Yeah. I understand.

Ava: Mm.

Johnny: Uh, ava, when I walked in just now, I heard you say his name.

Ava: Yeah, um, you’d probably think I’m crazy, but for a second there, I thought that–

Johnny: You–you thought I was jake?

Ava: Yeah. I mean, especially after last night.

Johnny: What happened last night?

Ava: No one told you?

[Chuckles] I thought it was gonna be the talk of the house.

Johnny: Ah, I wasn’t around, so…

Ava: Oh, okay, well, I was meeting with gabi, and someone was at the door, and when I went to open it, jake was standing there.

Johnny: What?

Ava: Well, I thought– I thought jake was standing there. I mean, he was so real. He was standing there in his hospital gown, the one he died in. I touched him. I felt him.

Johnny: All right, but how– ava, how is that possible?

Ava: [Sighs] I don’t know. I d– [Sighs] I don’t know, but– I don’t know; I got so overwhelmed, I just passed out, and then when I came to, li was standing there, and he told me that it was him that I saw at the door.

Johnny: You sound like you don’t believe that.

Ava: Oh, I know very well what jake looks like. He’s who I saw. I would swear to it.

Tony: What do you mean that brother jake is alive?

Ej: In ava’s mind, anyway.

Tony: I’m afraid I’m not following.

Ej: I’m surprised you didn’t hear about the commotion yesterday. Gabi found ava passed out in the foyer. When she came to, ava insisted that she saw jake at the front door.

Tony: But he wasn’t, of course?

Ej: Not unless you believe in ghosts.

Tony: So what do you think actually happened?

Ej: Apparently, it was li at the door. Ave was obviously hallucinating. I’m afraid that poor woman has gone round the bend. I’m worried for her.

Tony: Oh, are you really?

Ej: Yes, she suffered a terrible loss and is clearly not dealing with it well.

Tony: Ah.

[Chuckles] You’re saying all the right things. But I can see that look in your eye. What are you up to?

Chloe: Kristen can’t honestly think that she will get full custody of rachel.

Brady: I told you, since her pardon, she is feeling invincible. Maybe she is.

Chloe: I don’t know, I mean, even if her record’s been wiped clean, every person in this town could testify that she is a dangerous criminal.

Brady: Chloe, you–you’ve– you’ve been through a custody battle. The judge is usually gonna side with the biological mother, right?

Chloe: Well, not when the said mother is kristen dimera.

Brady: Officially, kristen dimera is this fine, upstanding citizen. In the eyes of the law, hell, she–she didn’t even commit the crimes; they don’t exist.

Chloe: Mm. Well, um, what if she’s committed a crime since she’s been pardoned?

Kristen: What do you mean “there’s a problem”?

Rolf: Stefan’s feelings for gabi are proving more powerful than I anticipated.

Kristen: So?

Rolf: So I was attempting to stimulate his brain last night and inadvertently roused him.

Kristen: Okay, what do you mean “roused”?

Rolf: He leapt out of bed, desperate to get to gabi. I couldn’t stop him!

Kristen: Okay, so you let him go?

Rolf: There was nothing I could do!

Kristen: Oh, my god, did gabi see him?

Rolf: Thankfully, li and i were able to get to him before he could reveal himself to her.

Kristen: Okay. So nobody saw him? Rolf…

Rolf: Unfortunately, ava vitali did see him.

Kristen: You’re serious?

Rolf: Yes, but it’s all under control.

[Chuckling] She was believing that she was hallucinating her dead husband, jake.

[Laughs]

Kristen: Are you sure?

Rolf: Yes.

Kristen: Okay, then we dodged a bullet, unlike jake. So you will fix this, right?

Rolf: I knew this would be a challenge. But the man’s been dead for four years and woke up with one singular thought– getting back to his wife.

Kristen: How touching.

Rolf: It’s a powerful love, kristen, more powerful than I knew. To be honest, I don’t know whether it can be overcome.

Gabi: I was gonna throw ava a bone; give her a meaningless job title, and, you know, make her happy.

Shin: While ignoring her more outrageous demands.

Gabi: Yeah, but during our job interview, she answered the door and imagined her dead husband.

Shin: Mm, that certainly was unfortunate. The look on her face before she passed out, it was like her brain had short-circuited from the trauma. Imagine mistaking me for jake.

Gabi: Yeah, I just hope she takes the title, takes the salary, gets out of the way, and just rests.

Shin: I hope so too. You seem a little stressed out.

Gabi: Yeah.

Shin: You doing okay?

Gabi: I’m hanging in there, li, okay? Blackmail, secrets, lies; it’s a lot.

Shin: I hear ya.

Johnny: Are you saying you don’t think jake’s dead?

Ava: No, I mean– [Sighs] Honestly, I don’t know what I’m saying. I mean, I was there at the hospital when he died. I said goodbye.

Johnny: And there–there’s no doubt that he’s gone, right?

Ava: No, but… then I started having these waking dreams, where jake would come to me and we would– we would talk.

Johnny: So couldn’t last night have been a dream too?

Ava: No, no, it–it–it felt too real. Like I told you, I touched him. I felt his breath. You know, I guess last night could’ve been some sort of flashback or ptsd or something. I don’t know.

[Chuckles] Maybe I’m just crazy.

Johnny: Ah, my, uh, my grandma marlena would tell you that she doesn’t believe in that word, and also you’re talking to a guy that was possessed by the devil, so–

Ava: Yeah.

Johnny: Nothing sounds crazy to me anymore.

Ej: What makes you think I’m up to something?

Tony: [Chuckles] First of all, you’re you.

Ej: Fair point.

Tony: Yeah, well, let’s face it, ej. Ever since you found out that ava was married to jake–

Ej: Allegedly married to jake.

Tony: Yes. You’ve been trying to get your hands on her dimera shares.

Ej: Have I?

Tony: Why else did you move her in here?

Ej: She’s family, and she needed help.

Tony: Oh, please. You just used the word “allegedly” to describe her marriage. Now you want me to believe that you think of her as family?

Ej: Okay, so maybe I did have a plan.

Tony: Oh, what was that, win her over with your many charms?

[Chuckles] Oh, please don’t tell me that your plan is to seduce your brother’s widow.

Ej: It doesn’t matter what I was planning. The situation changed and it resulted in some tension between ava and me.

Tony: Ah, romantic tension?

Ej: I have no desire to build a relationship with a lunatic.

Tony: Oh, that hasn’t stopped you before.

[Chuckling]

Ej: But you have to admit her delusions are concerning.

Tony: Mm-hmm. Then are you concerned about her?

Ej: I’m concerned about this family and the company. Even if ava’s vote was legitimate, and I still have my doubts, how can we trust such an unstable shareholder to faithfully uphold her responsibilities?

Tony: Oh, please. By that standard, you’d have to oust half the shareholders.

Ej: Perhaps, but today, I only need to oust one.

[Dramatic music]

After trying lots of things to manage her

Brady: As far as I know, since she’s been pardoned, kristen has been on her best behavior.

Chloe: You mean, other than literally trying to kill me at the office yesterday?

Brady: What?

Chloe: I–I didn’t wanna say anything to you, ’cause I didn’t wanna worry you.

Brady: No, well, okay– too late; now I’m worried. What–what the hell happened?

Chloe: To be honest, I’m not even sure how serious she was about stabbing me.

Brady: Hold on, she tried– she tried to stab you? What?

Chloe: She threatened to stab me with a letter opener.

Brady: Oh, god! What?

Chloe: Yeah, she picked it up, and she said she was gonna plunge it through my heart.

Brady: Chloe, oh–

Chloe: I told you she was not gonna be satisfied just torturing me with the passive-aggressive powerpoint critiques.

Brady: No, no, no, no this– I’m not gonna let her get away with this.

Chloe: I didn’t say this– I don’t want you to get worked up.

Brady: Well, I’m worked up! This woman is unhinged, obviously. I’m not gonna let her around my daughter. She’s not gonna get full custody. She’s not gonna get any custody!

Kristen: You promised you could get stefan to fall out of love with gabi and in love with chloe.

Rolf: I know what I said.

Kristen: And as you know, I need stefan to come between brady and chloe so that I can get my family back.

Rolf: I will do my very best, but even if I’m successful–

Kristen: When! When you’re successful.

Rolf: I cannot promise to make chloe return stefan’s feelings!

Kristen: Well, then do the same procedure on her! I don’t care; whatever it takes! Rolf, I need–I need this to happen.

Rolf: You seem agitated– more than usual.

Kristen: Agitated? Agitated? Do you know how long they kept me from my daughter? I got to–I got to see her yesterday, and she is so big, so grown up.

[Sighs] Oh, my god. Just being with her just melted my heart, and brady, he ripped her away from me without letting me say goodbye.

Rolf: That’s not right.

Kristen: You’re sh–amn straight it’s not right!

[Sighs] I need to be with rachel. I need us to be a family again.

Rolf: I want that too. But happens if I can’t come through for you?

Kristen: You will! You will come through for me, rolf. I am–I’m gonna be with brady and rachel, and stefan is gonna be with chloe, and everyone is gonna live happily ever after.

Rolf: Everyone except for gabi hernandez.

Gabi: [Sighs] I’m sorry you got dragged into this whole ava thing. I mean, you did say you wanted to know everything.

Shin: I’m glad you told me that her marriage to jake wasn’t real. We’re in this together, gabi.

Gabi: Yeah, and we do make a hell of a team, don’t we?

Shin: We sure do. Like I said, stock prices are at an all-time high, profits are way up.

Gabi: Are they? This kind of talk is making me a little hot.

Shin: Oh, I haven’t even started talking about revenue…

Gabi: Mmm…

Shin: Mmm…

Gabi: But don’t stop.

Shin: Cash flow…

Gabi: [Giggles]

Shin: Mmm. Long-term projections.

Gabi: Mmm. Long-term projections?

[Sultry music]

Tony: So you relieve ava of her shares, and then you call in another vote of the board to install you in gabi’s stead. Do I have that right?

Ej: In a nutshell. I’d have six votes in total– mine plus kate and chad’S. I also have johnny and theo’s proxy, and of course, yours.

Tony: Of course.

Ej: And in the event of a tie vote, status quo prevails, which is how gabi was able to retain her position when kristen sided with her at the last meeting. However, without ava’s vote, it’s 6-5 in my favor.

Tony: Oh, well, I hate to be the naysayer here, but how do you plan to disqualify ava’s vote? Li makes those decisions.

Ej: Yes, and from the arcane rules of the dimera board, he also has his own vote too.

Tony: By that standard, he’s gabi’s lover and confidant, and even if ava was waltzing in here singing a duet with jake, well, li’s not likely to disturb the current power structure.

Ej: You’re absolutely right, tony, which is why I had to go over li’s head.

[Both chuckle]

[Suspenseful music]

Wei: What is the meaning of this?

Shin: Father! I was taking my antidepressant daily,

Ava: Thanks for being so cool about this.

Johnny: I just want you to be okay.

Ava: Mm, you know, I shouldn’t be surprised because you have been so nice to me ever since I moved in here.

Johnny: Eh, you’re my friend, and you’re part of the family now, so nobody gives you crap and gets away with it.

Ava: Oh– [Chuckles]

Johnny: What?

Ava: Oh, no, it’s just that sounded very vitali-esque of you right there.

Johnny: Ah, maybe the vitalis and dimeras aren’t so different.

Ava: You know, I was so eager to put my past behind me and just forget about my old life. You know, pretend it never happened. And then I ran into jake here in salem, and all of a sudden, it–it was a comfort to have that shared past, you know? An understanding between the two of us. Then it turned into something more. You never know where life’s gonna take you.

Johnny: No, no, no you don’T. Ava, I’m so sorry for your loss, and I didn’t mean to interrupt this, you know, private moment you were having.

Ava: No, no, no, I appreciate it. I appreciate everything that you said. Thank you.

Johnny: Yeah, any time. Um, I will let you be with jake.

[Dramatic music]

Tony: So you went over li’s head to his father?

Ej: I put in a friendly call to wei, told him there were a few matters that required his urgent attention here in salem.

Tony: So what did he say?

Ej: He’s calling a shareholders’ meeting here shortly.

[Sighs] Soon the company will be restored to the dimera family as it rightfully should’ve been all along.

Johnny: Uncle tony.

Tony: Ah.

Johnny: Dad. What’s goin’ on?

Shin: Father. Uh, wh– what are you doing here?

Wei: I wanted to discuss some important matters such as this workplace relationship.

Shin: I told you gabi and i were involved, and you gave us your blessing.

Wei: That was before I found you fornicating on company property!

Gabi: Mr. Shin, listen–

Wei: A little grace would involve locking the door.

Gabi: Yeah, we’ll definitely do that next time.

Wei: Next time?

Shin: She was just joking, father.

Gabi: I’m–I’m so sorry. This is all my fault, mr. Shin.

Shin: No, no, it was mine. I got carried away. It won’t happen again.

Wei: It certainly won’T. If you’ll excuse me, it was a long flight. I need to freshen up.

Shin: [Sighs] I’m so sorry that happened. I know that must be mortifying.

Gabi: You told me you just got off the phone with your dad. Why didn’t you tell me he was in salem?

[Cell phone ringing]

[Cell phone beeps]

Kristen: [Sighs] I assume you’re calling because you got served.

Brady: Full custody? Really, kristen?

Kristen: Maybe if you didn’t yank rachel away without letting me say goodbye to her yesterday, I would’ve settled for joint custody, but obviously, brady, you don’t wanna play fair.

Brady: Oh, and what is fair, this–this emotional blackmail you’re trying with rachel, telling her that we’re gonna be a family again?

Kristen: [Sighs] Well, it’s obvious that you don’t wanna be co-parents now or in the future, so I think that you’ve had full custody for long enough. Now it’s my turn.

Brady: It will never be your turn. Chloe told me how you nearly stabbed her at the office yesterday.

Kristen: So dramatic. If I wanted to kill chloe, she’d be dead.

Brady: You threatened her with a letter opener?

Kristen: That’s what she said; her words against mine, and if you put her on the witness stand, we will make her look like the desperate home-wrecker she is.

Brady: Kristen, I didn’t wanna go to war with you.

Kristen: You could’ve fooled me.

Brady: But you’ve gone too far once again. I tried to work it out with you, so here’s the deal. You are never getting rachel back–ever!

[Cell phone beeps]

Johnny: You were talking about the family business, about how something will be restored as it should’ve been all along?

Ej: Restored? Oh, yes, yes! Yes, of course. I was thinking of having father’s portrait touched up a bit. There’s always been something about the eyes that’s just not quite right.

Johnny: Looks fine to me. That’s exactly how I remember nonno looking.

Tony: That’s a perfect likeness.

Ej: All right, we’ll leave it, then. Ava’s not here, by the way, so no need to continue to parade around half-naked.

Johnny: I was on a run. It’s hot out, and I know that ava’s not at the house, ’cause i just ran into her at the crypt.

Ej: Popular destination today. What, pray tell, were you doing there?

Johnny: I saw the door open. I just–I wanted to make sure everything was okay.

Ej: Ava was inside?

Johnny: Yeah, yeah, I’m pretty sure I freaked her out when I walked in.

Ej: Mm, did she tell you that she saw your uncle jake’s ghost or whatever he was?

Johnny: Yeah. Yeah, she told me she saw jake.

Ej: And what exactly did she say?

Johnny: Just that it felt real, you know? She touched his face. She was sure it was him. But she–she–she couldn’t explain what was happening. She thought she must’ve been maybe hallucinating, seeing her dead husband standing there when it was actually li.

Ej: Poor woman.

Johnny: She said you were comforting. I know you two have had your issues, so I’m glad you were kind to her when she needed a friend.

[Suspenseful music]

Ava: Oh, jake. I know you’re not here. I know you’re not gonna walk through that door. I guess I just wanted it so badly that my brain made it happen. And I know–I know that our marriage wasn’t real, but my love for you was and always will be. And I hope– [Chuckles] I hope you don’t mind what I did–you know, that I’m lying to your family. I will admit that I became a dimera partly out of selfishness and–but mostly babe, I did it for you, because I am gonna do all the things that you never had the chance to. This is for you, jake.

[Machinery beeping]

Kristen: Brady wants to keep me from rachel. He can’T. He won’T. You need to speed this up.

Rolf: [Scoffs] I can’t just snap my fingers and reprogram stefan’s brain. It’s a process.

Kristen: Well, process faster.

Rolf: It doesn’t work that way. I have to use subliminal associations to reinforce positive memories of the early days of his budding romance with chloe. Similarly, negative associations will be paired with his memories of gabi.

Kristen: And then what?

Rolf: Then stefan’s brain will do the rest of the work. New neural pathways will evolve, and he will be in love with chloe and disgusted by gabi.

Kristen: You’re gonna test it before you let him out again?

Rolf: Of course. He will not step foot out of this room until his heart and mind are fully reprogrammed.

[Cell phone beeps]

[Sighs] I have to go.

Rolf: What’s wrong?

Kristen: Uh, I have been summoned by wei shin for a meeting at dimera. I wonder what this is about.

[Suspenseful music]

Shin: Yes, I spoke to my father earlier. He must’ve been at the airport, but he never mentioned to me that he was in salem.

Gabi: Why would he keep that from you?

Shin: I know it sounds strange, but this is how he operates. He’s been doing it since I was a kid. He’d show up at my school, make sure I was working hard enough. Even at university, he’d appear unannounced to see who I was spending time with, confirm that I wasn’t doing anything to displease him or dishonor the family.

Gabi: Sounds like he’s got major trust issues.

Shin: Big ones. And he likes to catch me off-guard.

Gabi: Well, he succeeded at that. I just hope there aren’t any consequences from this.

Shin: I guess we’ll have to find out. Father, again, I deeply apologize for what you just witnessed.

Wei: Well, it certainly could have been worse. Now, call the custodian staff and get someone to scrub that table.

Gabi: I will handle that.

Wei: Well, you better hurry. I just summoned a meeting of the dimera shareholders.

Gabi: For what– for what purpose?

Wei: You’ll see. Announcer: Type 2 diabetes?

Ava: Am I interrupting?

Ej: No, no, we were actually just talking about you.

Ava: Really, what about?

Ej: I was going to suggest that we hold a small service for jake as soon as we’re able to inter his ashes–a chance to honor our brother’s memory, assuming it’s all right with you as his widow.

Ava: That would be, um, nice. Thank you.

[Cell phone beeps]

Ej: Oh, this is strange.

Johnny: What is it?

Ej: It appears wei shin is in town.

Tony: [Gasps] Is he?

Ej: Mm. He’s the chairman of the board of dimera.

Ava: I’m aware.

Ej: He’d like us to go to dimera for a shareholders meeting. He wants us there asap.

Ava: A sudden shareholders meeting? Is this a common occurrence?

Ej: Hardly.

Ava: So you have any idea what this is about?

Ej: Not at all.

[Dramatic music]

Shin: You’re not gonna do that; we pay people for this.

Gabi: [Sighs] I’m not afraid to get my hands a little dirty. I just–I don’t want your father to have any excuses to try to depose me from power.

Shin: He can’t even if he wanted to. I have a vote; he doesn’T.

Gabi: He still has a lot of influence here.

Shin: Not enough to change things, especially when you’re doing so well.

Gabi: Well, then why is he here? Why did he call this meeting?

Shin: I don’t think it has anything to do with us. Jake died, and his shares wound up in the hands of a former crime boss. Plus, kristen’s out of prison and making waves.

Gabi: That’s a lot of uncertainty.

Chanel: And what is this klutzy dream woman’s name?

Alex: [Sighs] Stephanie. How beautiful is that? Stephanie johnson. The woman that changed the direction of my life.

Sonny: I gotta say, I’m a– I’m a little taken aback. I figured you would have jumped at the chance to work for me. I know I can pay you more than anyone else.

Stephanie: I know. And I’d love to do pr for you.

Sonny: Okay, then what’s the problem? Is it–is it alex?

Stephanie: Sonny, if you hire me, he wants to be the point man. I’d have to report to him.

Steve: I interviewed everyone within a 10-block radius of my house. Apparently, no one saw or heard anything last night.

John: What the hell is going on here? I checked out every one of orpheus’ old hideouts. He hasn’t used any of them.

Steve: He’s had our wives for a full day now. It scares the hell out of me to think what they could be going through right now.

Marlena: Kayla. Kayla! Wake up. Kayla. Are you all right?

Kayla: [Groans] I got such a headache.

Allie: Stephanie johnson? She’s my cousin.

Chanel: Her too? It seems like everybody in this town is your cousin.

Allie: Well, we are a complicated family.

Alex: Wait, this is great! You could put in a good word for me.

Allie: Oh, come on, you don’t need help from me.

Alex: Actually, I do. I asked stephanie out and she turned me down. Flat. Kind of caught me off-guard.

Chanel: Is that a new experience for you? Getting turned down by a woman?

Alex: Yeah.

Allie: Uh, I mean, didn’t gabi do the same thing?

Chanel: And the two of us.

Alex: Yeah, but that was different.

Allie: How?

Alex: That was bs.

Chanel: Uh, excuse me, bs?

Alex: Bs, “before stephanie.” So here I was, laying on the ground. Hey, look, right here. I’m looking up. She’s standing above me. I’m looking up at her. My whole world changed. That was it.

Chanel: Yeah, that sounds like bs all right.

Alex: All right, good, this is funny, right? You girls aren’t taking me seriously, but that’s okay, because you will see, I am not letting stephanie get away.

Allie: Alex, it kind of sounds like she already got away.

Alex: That’s so funny, right? Yeah, it’s not gonna last. She’s gonna see what I see. Trust me. She’s gonna see that we are meant to be together. We’re soulmates.

Stephanie: No. There’s another reason. I came back to salem to take on a big job with a new client who lives here. We just had our first meeting last night, and I found out just how demanding she is.

Stephanie: You don’t know this lady. She may be more than I can handle.

Paulina: You’re orpheus? I had the living daylights scared out of me yesterday because of you? Getting grabbed by john black? ‘Cause he thought I was you?

Orpheus: Yeah. Yeah, the black patch team tends to–tends to compensate for its ineptitude with overzealousness.

Roman: So, what the hell did you do now?

Orpheus: Oh, no, no. No, poor steve got it in his head that I was going after his daughter stephanie. But after all these years, you’d think he’d know that my interests have always lain elsewhere.

Kayla: Help! Help! There are two women tied up in here! Call the police! Help!

Marlena: Kayla. Kayla. Don’t exhaust yourself. He’s made sure nobody can hear us.

Kayla: Well, steve and john have to know that we’re missing by now, so– so they’re gonna find us.

Marlena: Of course they will. But until they do, we’ve gotta take care of ourselves. Orpheus will be back. We’ve gotta figure out what we’re going to do.

Steve: I know his note said we can’t contact the police or tell anybody. But I’ll tell you what, if we can’t do everything we need to do, we should get ahold of shane, on the down low. Nobody knows orpheus better than shane donovan.

John: We can’t risk that, man. Orpheus worked inside the isa for so many years. You know he still has spies on the inside.

Steve: You’re right.

John: It’s up to us, partner. We have to find kayla and marlena, and we’re gonna do this on our own. My asthma felt anything but normal.

Sonny: Okay, so you landed an account that was bigger than you thought. What’s the big deal? You’re not a one-man operation. You have a full staff. You can have more than just one big client.

Stephanie: I can name ten firms in chicago who would love to handle titan.

Sonny: I don’t–I don’t want another firm. All right? I want you.

Stephanie: I get the feeling that kiriakis men do not take well to the word “no.”

Sonny: See? So this is about alex.

Stephanie: He is so not my type, and he never will be. And I don’t want him cornering me every time I turn around.

Sonny: I’ve been observing my brother for a very long time. When it comes to women, very small attention span.

Alex: From now on, my whole focus is gonna be stephanie.

Alex: I’m serious. I have never, ever felt like this about anybody. We’re meant to be together.

Chanel: And how do you know that?

Alex: Because we ran into each other twice in the same day. You gonna tell me that means nothing?

Allie: I mean, maybe in tokyo or london, but that happens all the time here. And, I mean, is stephanie even into you? Or is this just all, like–

Alex: Why am I even talking about this standing here with you girls? I need to get back to the office, because she might still be there.

Allie: Okay, hey, just– before you go, little– little reminder. No means no.

Alex: Yeah. I get that. I do. All right, I’m not gonna pressure stephanie into anything. I’m gonna play it cool.

Chanel: I’d like to be there when you do that.

Alex: Well… I have waited my entire life to meet a woman like this. I’m not gonna blow it by coming on too strong.

[Both giggle]

Steve: Yeah. Got a text from stephanie this morning. “Mom and I were supposed to “have breakfast this morning, “and she didn’t show up. You know where she is?”

John: You come up with a story to tell her?

Steve: Not yet. I hate lying to her.

John: Doesn’t sound like she’s too upset yet.

Steve: Yeah. Well, that won’t last. Then what do I say? “Orpheus was able to kidnap “your mother and marlena “because your idiot father walked right into his trap”?

John: Hey, come on.

Steve: You know, at the very least, I should have followed stephanie alone and left you at the house with kayla and marlena.

John: If I thought you weren’t doing the right thing, partner, I wouldn’t have come with you.

Steve: Listen, man, our wives were sitting ducks because I made a stupid mistake.

John: Whoa, whoa, whoa, leave the “stupid” out, okay? Come on.

Steve: I should have neutralized that son of a bitch the moment he showed up and threatened my kids.

Abe: You were lucky enough to get a pardon. Why don’t you take up golf or fishing, and leave decent people alone?

Orpheus: Mr. Mayor, I’m just hear in salem to make a fresh start.

Roman: [Chuckles] Yeah, that would be you.

Orpheus: I see john and steve have had your ear.

Roman: After what you’ve done to their families, do you blame them for being suspicious of your every move?

Orpheus: [Chuckles] My old isa partner here needs to come down off his high horse. ‘Cause if anybody has a right to be angry about what was done to his loved ones, it’d be me. You’re new in town, so you probably don’t know. Birthday boy shot and killed my wife. The mother of our two small children.

Roman: Yeah, and you used her death as a license to live out your sadistic fantasies on the people of my town.

Orpheus: Perhaps it would be best if we didn’t dredge up the past.

Roman: You’re the one who started this death march down memory lane.

Orpheus: Me? No, I’m just here for the chowder.

Abe: This is a private party. I want you out of here. Now, move. Or you’re gonna find this place surrounded by squad cars.

Paulina: Well, I don’t need to wait for no cops. I can just kick your little skinny ass down to the curb myself.

Abe: Paulina. Don’T. Don’T.

Orpheus: No, no, no, no, it’s okay. It’s all good. Don’t get your feathers in a ruffle. I’m leaving. But I– I’m sure I’ll be seeing all of you. Around town. In the near future.

Kayla: You know what? You are absolutely right. We just gotta–we just gotta keep it together and stay on the offensive. So, how do you suppose we do that?

Marlena: We don’t know– we don’t know what orpheus has in mind for us, so what do we know?

Kayla: How about that he and his henchmen took us from my place, blindfolded us, and threw us in his car.

Marlena: And then drove us around for hours.

Kayla: Right. He went north for a while, then went east, and then made a u-turn.

Marlena: How do you know that? You were blindfolded.

Kayla: I have a very keen sense of direction.

Marlena: Okay, so he made a u-turn, which means he wants us to think that we are farther from salem than we are.

Kayla: Wouldn’t that be great?

Marlena: I remember hearing bells.

Kayla: While we were in the car?

Marlena: Yeah. Yeah, it wasn’t–it wasn’t the–the courthouse bells. It was something else.

Kayla: You know, and I swear that I heard a power saw or something.

Marlena: A construction area?

Kayla: Yeah, maybe. You think those bells could have been church bells? Because–because they’re restoring st. Luke’S.

Marlena: You’re right. They are. And you know what? The docks are near st. Luke’S. And there are warehouses on the docks.

Kayla: Warehouses are just right up his alley, huh? You know, we’re pretty good at this.

Marlena: It makes me think that you and I can do more than just sit around and wait to be rescued.

Marlena: You know my favorite thing about you? You always look on the bright side of things. I wonder what game he’s playing this time.

Kayla: Right. Because there’s always a game.

Marlena: Yeah, he just gets such a kick out of seeing us go through all the steps, doesn’t he?

Kayla: Yeah. Wouldn’t it be great if that smug bastard came in here and we were gone?

Marlena: Does that mean that you’re making some progress on the ropes?

John: Hey, doc and kayla, they are smart. And they’re tough. We both saw what kind of a fight they put up last night.

Steve: Yeah. But he’s still got them.

John: But the fact is, we know those two ladies are not gonna give up.

Roman: Missed my opportunity, man. I shouldn’t have let him walk out of here. I should have busted him in the mouth and thrown him out.

Kate: No, come on. Don’t let that creep ruin this birthday celebration.

Paulina: That’s right. He is creepy, though.

Roman: What was that about you getting the daylights scared out of you yesterday?

Paulina: Oh, yeah, that. Well, I arranged a meeting with steve’s daughter, and I asked her not to tell anybody about it, so, you know, she wouldn’t, you know, tell her daddy where she was going.

Abe: You see, steve thought that orpheus had set up the meeting and stephanie was walking into a trap.

Paulina: It was very dark in that room. I couldn’t see much. Stephanie came in, and the next thing I knew, john black lunged at me, thinking I was that creepy man. We got it all straightened out, though.

Roman: Okay, why was this– why was this meeting so secret?

Abe: Politics. Paulina had hired stephanie to do the pr for my campaign.

Kate: Ah. And I for one am so glad you decided to run.

Roman: Yes, the state could use a man like you in the governor’s mansion.

Abe: Well, I tell you one campaign promise I will make. Guys like orpheus, they will be locked up and they will stay locked up.

Kate: Oh, people, please, this is a birthday celebration! Let’s stop talking about orpheus and let’s start talking about cake.

Paulina: I’ll drink to that.

Roman: And you want cake.

Kate: Of course I want cake!

Roman: Well, we got champagne.

Kate: Roman, it’s a birthday celebration. At a birthday celebration, you have birthday cake.

Paulina: It so happens that I know of a bakery right here on the square that makes delicious cake. Called sweet bits? You know, I could just run– run over there and get–

Kate: No, no, no, no, no. You stay right where you are. This is on me.

Sonny: And just this morning, I walk into the study and find alex half-naked on a couch with some woman.

Stephanie: In the study?

Sonny: Mm-hmm.

Stephanie: Are you kidding me?

Sonny: Yeah. I wish I was. The whole time, I could just think of what my mom would have said.

Stephanie: I can hear aunt adrienne now. “Alexander kiriakis, “you’ve got ten seconds to get that woman out of this house.”

Sonny: “And you, young lady, have some self-respect. “Never undress where his mother may find you.”

Stephanie: Yeah! [Laughs] Aww, I miss her. I can only imagine how you feel.

Sonny: That–that’s why I wanna work together. We love the same people. We have the same history. And I bet you money alex has already moved on to someone else.

Stephanie: You sure?

Sonny: Yes. Please don’t make me beg.

Stephanie: Okay.

Sonny: Okay?

Stephanie: Okay. I’ll take on titan as a client.

Sonny: Oh! Yes! Thank you!

Stephanie: On the condition that you talk to alex and make sure he understands boundaries.

Sonny: Yes, of course. The first– alex? What are you– what are you doing here?

Alex: Well, I didn’t come here to see you. These are for you, gorgeous.

[Quirky music]

-Hi, dr. Rick. It’s julie. -[ Gasps ] That’s me.

Sonny: Hey, alex. That’s a big bouquet, buddy. Could be in, like, the rose parade.

Stephanie: [Sighs] I’ll let you two talk.

Sonny: Thanks.

Alex: I think she’s really warming up to me.

Sonny: You do?

Alex: Yeah. Did you get her to accept the job?

Sonny: Yes. Yes–

Alex: That’s fantastic! Are you kidding me? Do you know how many ideas I have about just the rebrand and the new imagine–

Sonny: But there were a few conditions, the main of which–

Alex: I will let you cross all the t’s and dot the I’S.

Sonny: What are you doing?

Alex: I’m gonna go find stephanie so we can start brainstorming.

Sonny: I am stopping you from making a huge mistake.

Alex: [Scoffs]

Allie: Well, I guess if alex is in love, he’ll give up on that threesome idea.

Chanel: Yeah, probably.

Allie: You know, I have to admit, it was– it was pretty sweet to see him like that.

Chanel: He reminded me of this stray dog that followed me home from school when I was in the third grade.

Kate: Hey. Sorry to interrupt. Um, I was wondering if you might have a cake. I was hoping you would have a cake for grandpa roman’s birthday celebration.

Allie: We already sold all the cakes.

Kate: I see.

Chanel: But I’m sure we can find something for grandpa roman’s party.

Allie: You’re celebrating grandpa’s birthday with him?

Kate: Yeah, I am.

Allie: I thought he was done with you.

Kate: Well, he was. But he forgave me. And I’m hoping that you’ll forgive me as well.

Paulina: I’m glad you came around and took kate back. I like her.

Abe: So do I.

Paulina: You know how the saying goes. “To err is human. “To forgive is…sometimes in your best interest.”

Roman: Oh, is that how that saying goes?

Abe: All right. All right, you two. It is picture time, so–

Roman: [Grumbles]

Abe: Come on, buddy. You’re not smiling.

Roman: [Chuckles]

John: Pretty quiet over there, partner. What are you thinking about?

Steve: I think I should go back to my place and make sure we didn’t miss anything that could tell us where he took them.

John: All right. Listen, while you’re there, get a shower and grab something to eat here. Gonna have to have clear heads if we’re gonna find them today.

Steve: All right. I’ll see you.

John: Yeah.

[Phone rings]

John: Hey, abraham.

Abe: Hey, buddy, I just called marlena and kayla, but neither one of them answered.

John: Yeah, um… they’re both at a medical conference in chicago. What’s up?

Abe: Well, we are having a birthday party for roman at the pub.

John: Mm. Boy, I’d sure like to make that, but I’m a little tied up right now.

Abe: Look, we could really use some friendly faces.

John: Yeah, why?

Abe: Orpheus showed up, and it got nasty. And roman’s not in a party mood anymore.

John: I’ll be right there.

Marlena: Oh, wait, wait, wait, wait, my right wrist is getting loosened up.

Kayla: I got it. Got it, got it, got it.

Marlena: Well done.

Kayla: [Sighs]

Orpheus: Oh! It looks like I stayed away a bit too long. You miss me, ladies?

Orpheus: Get a little cranky when you’re hungry? I know that feeling. I tried to get takeout at the pub, but the service is terrible and the staff has a bad attitude. So I just went by the drive-through.

Marlena: How do you expect us to eat wearing handcuffs?

Orpheus: Hmm. Yeah, that is a problem. Well, I guess you’ll just have to derive some vicarious satisfaction out of watching me eat. Mmm. You just can’t beat a buddy burger. Mmm.

John: Hey.

Roman: John! Thanks for coming, man.

John: Wouldn’t miss it. Wouldn’t miss it. Hey, I heard that orpheus paid you all a visit? What the hell was that about?

Marlena: Will you please tell us what you plan to do with us?

Orpheus: Marlena, you need to learn to have patience. All your questions will be answered in due time. But right now, there is something I need to attend to. So…sit back and enjoy the evening, ladies. This party’s just getting started.

Kayla: What do you suppose that means?

Marlena: I don’t know, but god help us.

Allie: I think it’s nice that you’re having a birthday party for grandpa. But I don’t think you and I have anything to say to each other.

Kate: Allie, I pled guilty.

Allie: To what?

Kate: To being an accessory after the fact in the kidnapping of sami, your mother.

Allie: What’s going to happen to you?

Kate: Well, actually, I was lucky. I got probation. I got a fine. A really big fine. 200 hours of community service, so don’t be surprised if you see me walking around salem picking up trash, wearing a very, very unattractive vest.

Allie: Well, that’s– that’s something.

Kate: Yeah. Look, I know what happened to your mother was hideous, and it was unfair.

Allie: You didn’t see her when dad brought her back from the place he had her. She was a wreck.

Kate: I know. All I could think about was protecting your dad. You know, I did not stop and think about sami. I didn’t think about you. I didn’t think about will. I didn’t think about roman. You know? It’s just something that I’m going to regret for the rest of my life. Allie, I am so, so sorry about my part in this whole thing.

Allie: Grandma.

Kate: Oh, honey, I love you. So, do you think I can see henry now?

Allie: Yeah. Sure you can.

Kate: Okay, great. And after that, I’m taking you shopping, and that is absolutely not a bribe.

Allie: I’d like that. Okay, well let me go see what is taking chanel so long. She might be making the cake from scratch, so I’m gonna go help her.

Alex: Yeah, I don’t know what you’re trying to do here, but it’s not gonna work.

Sonny: Ooh.

Alex: You have no idea what’s going on here, sonny.

Sonny: Oh, actually, I do. I have been watching you for a very long time. Stephanie is young, she’s beautiful, and she has a pulse, which means she’s exactly your type.

Alex: Stephanie happened.

Sonny: Stephanie– all that happened was you bumped into her in the square.

Alex: Yeah, and that’s all that it took. Sonny, I fell down, I looked up into these beautiful eyes, and that was it for me. It’s exactly like what you said this morning. You did this. You told me I was gonna meet her, that special woman.

Sonny: Stephanie?

Alex: She’s for me. She’s the one.

Steve: I can’t believe I let that bastard take you. Where are you, sweetness?

Stephanie: Papa?

[Dramatic music]

Sonny: Okay, yes, I know I told you that eventually you would find that special someone. But I didn’t mean today.

Alex: Yeah, me neither.

Sonny: Okay, are you sure that I didn’t just put this little idea in your head, like a little subliminal message or something?

Alex: Sonny, you weren’t there. You don’t know what it was like. Look, I can’t explain it. I don’t know what to tell you, sonny, it’s true. I am attracted to a lot of women. Sue me.

Alex: This is different.

Sonny: Yes. It is. In a very, very big way.

Alex: What are you getting at?

Sonny: I just hired stephanie. Stephanie works for titan. Titan has a very strict no dating policy, which means you can’t date her. You can’t even take her out for coffee.

Sonny: Yeah. I know. I had to find out the hard way.

Alex: Leo stark was your assistant. Stephanie is a consultant. She’s not even an employee.

Sonny: Okay, okay. Dating the head of the pr department, do you really think that’s a good idea for the company?

Steve: Oh, man. I was supposed to tell you. She forgot she was going to a medical conference today with marlena.

Stephanie: I see. Well, I guess that’s why marlena didn’t keep her appointment with chad.

Steve: Oh, how’s he doing?

Stephanie: He’s hanging in for the kids’ sake. But I don’t think he’s gonna be over this for a long time. If ever.

Steve: How’s he supposed to get over losing the love of his life?

[Soft somber music]

Roman: [Sighs] Well, that son of a bitch just dropped by for the fun of giving everybody a hard time.

Paulina: We gave it right back to him.

John: Yeah, I bet. So, did he touch anything while he was here?

Abe: You know, he does have this annoying habit of leaving bombs behind.

Paulina: Bombs? Please, tell me that’s metaphor.

Roman: I watched him like a hawk. He didn’t take anything and he didn’t leave anything behind.

Abe: These games of his have always landed him back in a prison cell. But you know, he’s been out for a while, and he hasn’t made a move against anybody. And it makes me think that maybe the man is finally seeing reality.

Marlena: I wonder how long we have before he comes back.

Kayla: Well, if we can’t get out of these cuffs, what does it matter?

Marlena: Well, we’re not chained to the wall. Maybe we could just back our chairs together and try to figure some way out of these cuffs. My asthma felt anything but normal.

Alex: Yeah, I don’t get this. Stephanie and i bump into each other, I fall to the ground, we say a few words to each other, and now you’re telling me she doesn’t want any part of me?

Sonny: Come on, man. How can you be so crazy about a girl you’ve literally just met?

Alex: I don’t know, sonny! This has never happened to me before. So maybe you can help me out, mr. Doctor love.

Sonny: I can’T. One of stephanie’s main conditions to saying yes was that you would back off.

Alex: It’s day one. So she’s not into me. Yet.

Sonny: Okay, alex, I am asking you, as my brother, and telling you, as your boss, respect her wishes.

Alex: She’s gonna come around. She’s gonna like me. You’ll see.

Sonny: He’s gonna see another woman, and he’s gonna forget all about stephanie. Oh, my god, I hope I’m right.

Stephanie: I’m sorry I was so hard on you for last night.

Steve: Oh, no, baby. John and I busted into your important meeting like the avengers. I overreacted, and I was wrong.

Stephanie: You were looking out for me. I know that. You always just want to keep us all safe. And you do a really good job of it.

Abe: Hey, buddy. Is there something you’re not telling us?

John: No. Everything’s just fine.

Chanel: I know that took a long time, but you said your grandma would wait.

Allie: Yeah, that’s what she said. She was right here. I don’t understand.

Paulina: Kate must have decided to eat that cake all by herself. I want to get this party started!

[Phone ringing]

Roman: It’s kate. Hey, sweetheart.

Orpheus: I just realized I didn’t wish you a happy birthday, roman. Oh, and I’m afraid some of your guests aren’t gonna be able to make it. Kayla, marlena, and kate all send their regrets.

Allie: [Yawns] Oh, the stars must be aligned. The first morning we have someone else open the bakery, and henry, bless his soul, sleeps in. I’m a lucky, lucky woman.

Chanel: Yes, hiring some extra help for the morning shift at the bakery was definitely a brilliant idea. Whose idea was that, by the way?

Allie: You know, I think it was yours, dupree.

Chanel: I think you’re right. Hm, someone is blowing up my phone, yours too.

Allie: Is there a problem at the bakery?

Chanel: Not unless alex is moonlighting at the shop.

Allie: Oh, god, alex as in, “let’s all get together and feel all right” alex?

Chanel: They’re all from him.

Allie: Yeah, wow. And they all say the same thing. He wants to take us out for drinks. God, he is like a dog with a bone.

Sonny: Someday, you’re gonna meet some woman who knocks you off your feet, and you’re gonna fall just as hard and fast as the rest of us.

Sonny: Yeah, but actually, now that you mention it, I mean, I have been looking to–a new pr firm. I mean, with all the recent upheaval, which is, like, the pr way of saying disaster after disaster, you know, titan could use some rebranding. Which is the pr way of saying we all look like a bunch of idiots.

Chad: Well, I’m sure stephanie would be up for the challenge. I actually have her card.

Eric: Look who it is. Happy birthday, dad.

Roman: Hey, keep that to yourself, all right? I don’t want everybody making a big deal of it.

Eric: That’s out of your hands; you’re a brady. You’re gonna have third-cousins call wishing you a long life and a wet mouth.

Chanel: Okay, and now we have someone to open up the bakery for us, so I think it’s time that we get back to having some sort of a social life.

Allie: I agree.

Chanel: Okay, so I’ll text him right now, and I’ll ask him where he wants to meet.

Roman: Any other units broken? Well, you know, I’m just saying, the a/c in my room is fine, and it’s nice and cool down here in the pub.

Eric: Yeah.

Eric: No, mine’s fine.

Roman: Okay, then, why are you so flushed and sweaty?

Jada: Eric should be back shortly, if you want to wait. He’s fixing my a/c, so he said I could use his shower in the meantime.

Nicole: Oh, you’re hear using eric’s shower?

Nicole: No, no, no. It’s just that, you know, I see you here standing in his room, wrapped in that towel, and I–you know, I just assumed that you two slept together.

Alex: Well, let me explain to you. Gladwell argues that we have the capacity as people to sift huge amounts of information, and isolate telling details, and come to astonishingly rapid conclusions all within the first two seconds that we see something. Or meet someone. It’s what we call the mental process of intuition.

Stephanie: Mm, fascinating.

Alex: Mm-hmm.

Stephanie: Well, my intuition tells me that I am extremely weirded out by all this intensity coming from a total stranger, so bye.

Alex: Really, so I’m not even gonna get to introduce myself? Allow me, I’m alex. And usually in our culture, it’s customary to then tell somebody your name when they told you theirs.

Stephanie: In my culture, it’s customary to say sorry when you slam into someone.

Alex: Stephanie? Well, that is a beautiful name. And now that we’re on a first-name basis, tonight, i know this incredible, incredible french spot in chicago.

Stephanie: Oh, my god, okay. Okay, remember when I said no a whole lot of times? And in spite of your rambling on about malcolm gladwell, and intuition, and whatever the hell else was your takeaway from that book, I told you that I was extremely weirded out by all of this insane intensity coming from someone who I don’t know, who doesn’t know me.

Alex: Okay, hey, I get it. I came on too strong, so allow me to apologize over a nice bottle of wine.

Stephanie: Oh, my god, alex.

Alex: What?

Stephanie: Okay, I’m gonna be really blunt here, so maybe you’ll actually get it. I’m not interested. I am too busy to date someone that I’m attracted to, let alone you.

Stephanie: I run my own business. It takes up all of my time.

Sonny: Hey. Stephanie, it’s sonny.

Sonny: I’m good, I’m good. Listen, chad just told me you’re in town, and i know you’re in pr. I think I might have a bit of a business proposition for you if you’re interested.

Roman: What’s that?

Kate: Oh, that is known as a birthday present. Customary for someone on their birthday. Many happy returns of the day.

Roman: Well, thank you. And I’m sure whatever’s in there is very nice, but I would have preferred that you kept your word.

Kate: And what makes you think I didn’t?

Roman: Well, the fact you’re still out and about. You told me you were gonna turn yourself in.

Kate: Well, actually, I did. I went to the police station, and I told them, while I didn’t know that lucas was the kidnapper while sami was captive, not shortly after, i did, and I didn’t come forward.

Roman: And?

Kate: And they have charged me as an accessory after the fact.

Allie: You know, I was thinking, maybe we need another shower.

[Knock at door] Or maybe we should get the door. Hi.

Abe: Hello. I hope this isn’t too early.

Paulina: Of course not. They’re bakers. Up with the birds.

Chanel: Not when we don’t have to, you know, bake.

Paulina: Oh, you were always miss grumps in the morning? God only knows why you decided to open a bakery. I used to have to drag you out of bed for lunch.

Chanel: Mama, why are you here?

Paulina: To tell you the wonderful news. You want to tell them? Should I?

Paulina: Abe’s gonna run for governor.

Chanel: Oh!

Allie: Wow.

Abe: Well, I guess I won’t have to look for a spokesperson, will I?

Paulina: Apparently, the way to reach the voters is through their stomachs. So you two, you’re going to make thousands of cookies that say “vote for abe.” That is, if you think you can handle, you know, the order.

Chanel: Oh no, we can definitely handle the order. But it depends on one thing.

Chanel: You need to apologize to allie first.

Sonny: Hey, come on in.

Stephanie: Whoa! Pretty nice digs you have here.

Sonny: Right, yeah, uncle vic likes things lavish, so– it’s so good to see you.

Sonny: Yeah, chad told me you were in town, and i was so happy. He said you have some big new client out here in salem. I really hope I’m not pulling you away from anything.

Stephanie: No, no, not at all. In fact, you saved me.

Sonny: I saved you?

Stephanie: I just bumped into this guy in the square, literally, and he decided it was the perfect opportunity to try to pick me up. And you should have heard this guy’s lines. He was a total cheeseball.

Alex: Sonny boy, you are not gonna believe this. I met the… oh, my god, it’s you. Pool floaties are like whooping cough.

Stephanie: What the hell? Did you follow me?

Alex: No.

Stephanie: This is stalking. Sonny, can you call your security and have him thrown out?

Alex: Stephanie, I work here. But the fact that you’re here, that’s kismet.

Alex: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Sonny here is my half-brother. His mother, adrienne, is your dad’s sister, and my mother is anjelica devereux, which means there isn’t a single impediment in our way.

Stephanie: Yes, there is. There is one colossal impediment–the fact that you are you.

Allie: Chanel. You really don’t need to apologize.

Chanel: Yes, she does. I told you about her teaming up with johnny to try to break us up. Because she wanted me to be with him. Emphasis on the him.

Allie: Chanel, really, it’s fine.

Chanel: No, it’s not. You were really upset about what she said, and rightfully so.

Paulina: Chanel is right, you know. I was wrong. And there’s no excuse for it. Except to say, I was just holding on to some old-fashioned idea of what I wanted for my daughter.

Allie: I understand.

Paulina: Now, let me tell you, when chanel found out what I was up to, oh, she took me to church on how out of line I was. And I’m glad. I’m glad she did because, you know, in the end, all that really matters to me is my baby’s happiness. And it’s plain to see how happy you make her.

Roman: Well, okay. I’m glad you accepted responsibly for what you did.

Kate: Yeah. Well, obviously, it was a rather novel experience for me.

Roman: Don’t joke. Couldn’t have been easy, especially under the circumstances. And I appreciate it.

Kate: Well, thank you.

Roman: But kidnapping is a felony. And if you have been charged as an accessory, that could be a prison sentence of up to three years.

Kate: I’m aware of that.

Roman: Does this mean you’re going to prison?

Eric: What are you doing here?

Nicole: Well, I came to see you, and jada answered the door.

Jada: I should probably get back to my room now.

Eric: I was just on my way to fix your a/C.

Paulina: I’ll get my pr woman on it. What are you waiting for? You need to get over to that bakery, make sure that you have everything that you need ’cause when we hit that campaign trail, there’s no turning back.

Chanel: Okay, okay, but before we get started, don’t you want to, like, check out a sample so that you can make sure you like the taste, check out the font on the lettering?

Paulina: Honey, honey, honey, nobody has time for that. Come on, we need those cookies yesterday!

Chanel: All right, well, we’re on it.

Allie: Yeah. And we’re so happy to help you with your campaign, abe.

Abe: Thank you. I’m grateful to you.

Chanel: What have we gotten ourselves into?

Sonny: Stephanie owns her own pr firm, and I thought that titan could use a bit of rebranding.

Alex: I couldn’t agree more. And I know how busy you are, sonny, so I’ll run point on this one. I think stephanie and i will do an amazing job.

Sonny: No, mm-mm, okay, actually, we still have a few things, details, to work out. So how about I just call you when we’re finished, okay?

Alex: Fair enough, I’m gonna head down to the office now. Where the hell are my keys?

Sonny: Look, I’ll have maintenance let you in. Just please.

Alex: You know what, I must have dropped them when you and I bumped into each other.

Stephanie: When you ran into me.

Alex: I’ll be right back. It has been a very eventful morning.

Sonny: Mm-hmm.

Alex: She literally knocked me off my feet.

Sonny: So you have met alex now. Makes a big first impression, doesn’t he?

Kate: No, I am not going to prison.

Roman: So does this mean you’re on the lam?

Kate: No, it meant that I came forward voluntarily, so trask knocked the charges down to a misdemeanor, and I will be paying a fine.

Roman: That’s it?

Kate: And 200 hours of community service. You know, I mean, do you think I could waitress here for free, and that would count?

Roman: I doubt it.

Kate: So disappointed that I’m not doing time?

Roman: No, I’m not. Obviously, I was upset that you covered for lucas, and I do believe that actions have consequences. But I also care about you. So no, I don’t want you to go to prison.

Kate: Do you really mean that?

Roman: I do.

Kate: Okay. So is there any chance that we could get back to, say, what we had?

Eric: I guess you were surprised to see jada here.

Nicole: To say the least.

Eric: Well, her air conditioner was busted, so I told her she could shower here.

Nicole: It’s okay, eric. Jada told me that you two slept together.

Eric: That’s very forthcoming of her–why did you stop by to see me again?

[Knock at door]

Hey, nicole. I’m sorry, it’s just– I can’t stop thinking about you.

Nicole: But I’m married. And what about jada?

Eric: Jada who?

Nicole: Well, I came by to tell you that I had a dream about you this morning.

Eric: Because I had a dream about you too. Woman tc: My a1c stayed here, it needed to be here.

Alex: Aha. This really is my lucky day.

Chanel: But we haven’t even said yes yet.

Paulina: Oh!

Abe: Wow.

Paulina: Oh, so does that pda mean what I think it means?

Kate: Yes.

Abe: Great, great.

Kate: Roman forgave me, and we’re going to give it another go.

Abe: Fantastic, that’s great.

Paulina: Oh, this is more than great. This is a reason to celebrate! Oh, this calls for a toast!

Abe: Oh, oh, by the way, happy birthday, buddy.

Paulina: It’s your birthday?

Roman: No big deal, okay?

Paulina: Oh, well, now, okay, I will decide that, and I have decided that, well, it calls for champagne on me.

Roman: Paulina, you do not have to do that.

Abe: Oh, well, you know, whenever my wife decides to celebrate, we are going to celebrate. There’s no choice about it.

Eric: So tell me about your dream.

Nicole: I dreamt that you came over to my house. And you were making sloppy joes. And the slow cooker exploded, and the kitchen was covered in meat and, you know, pasta sauce. And I don’t know, I just thought it was totally funny, and I wanted to share it with you.

Eric: And culinary.

Nicole: So I told you about my dream. What was your dream?

[Knock at door]

[Soft music]

Eric: Nicole.

Nicole: Eric. I can’t stop thinking about you.

Eric: You’re a married woman. Nicole, what about rafe?

Nicole: Rafe who?

Alex: That’s right. I sent you guys those texts.

Allie: Are we still on?

Alex: Sure. Unless I have to work late.

Chanel: Work late? Your brother’s the ceo. Since when do you have to work late?

Sonny: Seriously, I’m really looking forward to working with you. Is something wrong?

Stephanie: Sonny, I don’t think this is such a good idea.

Eric: What was my dream about?

Jada: Hey, so I gotta get to work, but I left my door open if you can still take a look at my a/C.

Eric: Yeah, not a problem. I totally will.

Jada: Okay, thanks.

Nicole: So your dream?

Eric: My dream. You showed up at my door with a singing telegram.

Nicole: Oh, I was singing? Oh, that wasn’t a dream. That was a nightmare.

Eric: No, no, my dream, you had a beautiful voice.

Nicole: Oh, well, that’s nice. So both of us had dreams about each other on the same day.

Eric: Yeah.

Nicole: That’s weird, huh? Like you said?

Paulina: I told you!

Kate: I know.

Paulina: I told you, roman would come around. Just like abe did.

Kate: I know.

Paulina: And now you two, you’re back together, and abraham and I, we’re married. And he’s running for governor.

Kate: Really, oh, my god, that is so great. That’s great!

Roman: All right, abe told me you talked him into running for governor.

Paulina: Uh-huh.

Kate: This has turned out to just be a great day in all ways. To roman, happy birthday.

Paulina: And to abe, the next governor of the state.

Roman: Oh, yes.

Abe: Oh, and to a wonderful year for the four of us.

Paulina: That’s right. ‘Cause nothing can stop us now.
