Xander: I think we should think about getting out of bed.

Gwen: What? Do you have somewhere to go?

Xander: In fact, I do.

Gwen: Where might that be?

Xander: It’s a surprise.

Gwen: Well, can I at least have a hint?

Xander: Sure. It rhymes with sing.

Gwen: Uh-huh, bling?

Xander: Mean, you’re on the right track.

Gwen: Ding?

Xander: In a sense.

Gwen: Oh, my god. Ring, ring. You’re gonna get me an engagement ring.

Xander: Ding, ding, ding, ding. Well, to be precise, I’m gonna begin the process of window shopping for an engagement ring. So yeah, if you have any hints you wanna drop, now would be the appropriate time.

Gwen: Oh, my god, xander. You are so, so sweet and so utterly charming, but we don’t have any money for a really nice ring. I swear I don’t need anything fancy.

Xander: You deserve it. You deserve the fanciest ring on the planet.

Gwen: Okay. I won’t fight you on it.

Xander: I won’t be long. Try and stay of trouble while I’m gone.

Gwen: I’ll do my best.

Ej: Ironic, isn’t it? That of all the crimes I’ve committed in my life, here I am about to be locked up for the one I did not.

Belle: Well, I’ve already filed the papers to get the appeal rolling.

Ej: At least now I understand why chad changed his mind about testifying on my behalf. But what I don’t understand is why he so certain he saw me kissing abigail at the courthouse when I never went near her.

Belle: Doesn’t make sense.

Ej: If only I could just see him and then explain–

Belle: Oh no, no, no. You don’t wanna do that. He’s got a lot going on with abigail right now.

Ej: What do you mean?

Belle: Well, shawn got a call from chad last night. He got a text–ostensibly from abigail–saying she went to boston to visit her parents.

Ej: And?

Belle: And someone else must have sent that because abigail never went to boston. And now she’s vanished without a trace.

Chad: It’s like finding a needle in a 300-mile haystack. You could be anywhere, but I’m not giving up, abby. I will find you, whatever it takes.

[Soft music]

[Crash]

Kayla: Oh!

Steve: What the hell was that?

Kayla: I think someone slammed the door. Were you sleeping, too?

Steve: Sorry, baby. I shouldn’t have dosed off like that.

Kayla: It’s understandable. You were clobbered on the head, and kristen drugged you.

Steve: And I can’t tell if it’s day or night.

Kayla: Was this here before?

Steve: What? No, maybe she snuck in here while we were sleeping.

Kayla: Well, at least she brought us some provisions.

Steve: And a few other things.

[Cell phone rings]

Kristen: Hello?

[Cell phone rings] Damn it, abigail was right. The cops are closing in.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Shawn: Hey, uncle steve, it’s me. I know brady hired you to look for kristen; I’m sure you’re hot on her trail.

Kristen: Very hot.

Shawn: I’m calling because abigail went missing yesterday, and we have reason to believe kristen is involved. But brady says he hasn’t heard from you lately, so please give me a call when you get this.

Abigail: I told you they’d be looking for me.

[Cell phone beeps]

[Soft music]

Gwen: Here we go.

[Cell phone beeps] “Kristen or whoever you are, I know you have my wife, and you’ve disabled tracking on her phone. Please have some compassion. She’s a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister. I’m begging you. I’ll do anything you want. Just please, let her come home to her family.”

Xander: Stop being so sentimental. Sarah is never coming back to you. And the only way you can afford to buy gwen an engagement ring is to sell this one.

[Tense music]

Sarah: Why can’t the man I love whisk me away on the back of a stallion? Or at least a raft.

Belle: Chad thinks that kristen might have had something to do with abigail’s disappearance.

Ej: Why would my sister kidnap abigail?

Belle: Well, apparently abigail was on the trail of what happened to sarah, and that led her to kristen. I mean, honestly I stopped trying to figure out kristen’s motivations.

Ej: Well, if she did have something to do with abigail’s disappearance, chad should find some comfort.

Belle: Why do you say that?

Ej: Because abigail is a dimera. Family first and all that. Kristen won’t hurt her. We may stab one another in the back figuratively, but never literally.

Belle: Never?

Ej: Well, there was that one time with poor benjy. And renee. But both those incidents were andre’s fault.

Belle: Well, I do hope that kristen has abigail because shawn said that steve and kayla were on her trail. And if anyone can find kristen dimera, it’s them.

Kayla: Let’s see, you know, when it comes to kidnapping, kristen sure provides a1 service.

Steve: She’s had experience.

Kayla: Look at this, three different options for sweetener for our coffee.

Steve: So thoughtful of her.

Kayla: And look at this, our driver’s licenses.

Steve: Yeah, too bad there’s no place to drive to.

Kayla: Excellent point.

Steve: I can tell you right now, she didn’t return my phone.

Kayla: Well, you probably wouldn’t have cell service here, anyway.

Steve: Oh, whoa, whoa. What are you doing? You can’t eat that.

Kayla: Why not? It looks fresh.

Steve: It could have drugs or poison in it.

Kayla: I’m starving. The last time I ate anything was one of the communion wafers that I snuck at the convent. And that was days ago. I mean, aren’t you hungry?

Steve: Yeah, but not hungry enough to risk being poisoned.

Kayla: You know, I’m willing to take the chance. Thank you.

Abigail: Must be stressful feeling those walls just closing in on you. Like I said, just a matter of time.

Kristen: And like I said, if anyone comes looking for you, my house has plenty of rooms.

Abigail: Is that really what you want? You want a house full of kidnapping victims?

Kristen: No, I want to be left alone. I mean, if people would just mind their own damn business, none of this would be happening.

Abigail: So I found a whole wing of the house that’s locked off. What’s in there, sarah? My aunt kayla and uncle steve?

Kristen: No, my bedroom. And I have the only key. No offense, abigail, but I didn’t wanna wake up in the middle of the night with you looming over me.

Abigail: You can’t keep us here forever, you know?

Kristen: I wouldn’t be so sure about that.

[Tense music]

Chad: “I’m sorry, but I can’t help you.” That’s it. That’s it? I’m sorry? “Whoever you are, if you harm one hair on my wife’s head, I will find you. And I will kill you. I do not care if you are family.” Send.

Shawn: Whoa, what’s going on?

Gwen: Sorry, chad, but I can’t do anything to help abigail now. So bugger off.

Alice loves the scent of gain so much,

Shawn: “I will find you, and I will kill you?”

Chad: What, too strong?

Shawn: I don’t think it’s very helpful.

Chad: Well, I need whoever it is to know that they’re not getting away with this.

Shawn: You should have let the police be the one to reach out to abigail’s kidnappers.

Chad: What does it matter? They’re not gonna tell me where abby is anyway.

Shawn: We’ve been trained to handle situations like this. We could have worked out a strategy.

Chad: Strategy, okay. Tell me what your strategy is to bringing my wife home.

Shawn: I went back to the airstrip, and I interviewed all personnel that were working yesterday, and also I tried get a look at the security footage.

Chad: And?

Shawn: And it’s gone. Somebody was covering their tracks.

Chad: Why am I not surprised?

Shawn: I left a message for my uncle steve. Brady hired him to try to track down kristen, hoping that maybe she’ll have some information on philip’s disappearance.

Chad: Okay, what else?

Shawn: I’m still waiting to hear back from him.

Chad: So then what do we do now besides wait?

Shawn: Well, can you think of anyone else who might know where to find kristen?

Chad: Actually, maybe I can.

[Knocking on door]

Gwen: Oh, my god. Coming, coming. Get in there, get in there, get in there. Oh. Coming, I’m coming.

[Tense music]

Maggie: Gwen, is everything all right?

Gwen: Maggie. Yes, everything’s fine.

Maggie: I thought I heard some pounding.

Gwen: Pounding? No, no, I was just trying to call the housekeeping, and the bloody line just doesn’t work. So if you are here to see xander, you’ve actually just–you’ve missed him. But I can take a message for you.

Maggie: Oh no. Actually, I just wanted to see how he was doing after…

Gwen: After sarah turned up and kicked him to the curb again.

Maggie: Well, yes, it must have been very painful for him.

Gwen: Actually, I’m very happy to report that he is doing very well.

Maggie: Really?

Gwen: Really. Turns out that him running into sarah could have been the best thing that could have happened to him.

Maggie: Why would you say that?

Gwen: Because he has finally put sarah in his rear view mirror, and he has decided to move on. In fact, he’s just proposed to me.

[Soft music]

Xander: I’m on my knees, unemployed, apparently unengaged, I’m not really in a cake kind of place–

Sarah: Can you just open the damn box?

Xander: Well, this is really weird.

Sarah: Well, will you? Oh, my god. The most romantic thing I’ve ever read.

Kristen: You barely touched anything I’ve given you since you’ve been here. What, are you on a hunger strike?

Abigail: No, I just don’t really care to be poisoned again, thank you very much.

Kristen: Abigail, I’m not gonna drug you.

Abigail: Why would I trust anything that you say?

Kristen: Well, because the alternative is to starve.

Abigail: No, the alternative is for you to let me go.

Kristen: Can I just make a point? See, if you would have minded your own business, you would be home with my brother and your two beautiful children right now.

Abigail: You are blaming me for getting abducted, okay.

Kristen: All right, see, I see you looking at the phone. Oh, my god, abigail, you can’t help yourself.

Abigail: What are you doing?

Kristen: Well, you can’t be too safe, hm?

Abigail: Look, what was I supposed to do? Sarah’s my cousin, okay? And reporting’s not just my job, it’s in my blood, sort of like kidnapping seems to be in yours.

Kristen: I was adopted, and you know that.

Abigail: Okay, so you were raised to be a kidnapper.

Kristen: Wow. I’m not a monster. I don’t wanna hurt anyone. Look, I’ve made you comfortable here.

Abigail: I would be slightly more comfortable if I were at home with my husband and my kids.

Kristen: I understand. But your father will tell you that I took very good care of him in nashville.

Abigail: Yeah. Apart from the fact that you kept him locked in a warehouse and let his family think he was dead for years.

Kristen: He is alive today because of me.

Abigail: Look, I know you pride yourself on being a non-homicidal type of criminal–well, except for the whole thing with my brother’s girlfriend, but–

Kristen: Okay, you know that I didn’t mean to do that.

Abigail: And maybe you don’t mean to kill me either. But if I starve to death, that’s on your head.

Kristen: Oh, my god. For god’s sakes, you know what? If it’s gonna stop this pointless conversation, I’m gonna prove to you right now that I’m not poisoning any of this, not your corn flakes or your drink. Wanna see? I’ll prove it to you right now. Hm?

[Soft music]

You satisfied now?

[Tense music]

Abigail: Very satisfied. Do you struggle with occasional nerve aches

Maggie: Xander proposed to you?

Gwen: Yeah, sorry if it hurts you to hear that. I know that you were very invested in xander and your daughter’s relationship.

Maggie: I’m just surprised. I didn’t see a ring, so…

Gwen: Well, yes, well, it was quite spur-of-the-moment. Actually, he’s out shopping for a ring as we speak.

Maggie: Is that right?

Gwen: Listen, maggie, I know that xander was very dear to you. And I know that you don’t approve.

Maggie: Gwen, I didn’t say that.

Gwen: You didn’t have to. But if you are holding onto any sort of hope that xander and sarah are going to get back together one day, don’T. Because he has said he is not waiting for sarah to come back to him. In fact, sarah has made it very clear, yet again, she does not want him.

Maggie: I know, I was there.

Gwen: Then what’s the problem?

Maggie: The problem is something was off with sarah’s visit.

Gwen: Like what?

Maggie: I don’t know, call it a mother’s instinct, intuition. I don’t know. But she just didn’t seem like the sarah that I know and love.

[Tense music]

Belle: Before I forget, I brought you a little something to help you get acclimated. This one is for the commissary. Buy yourself something nice. And that one’s for the phone.

Ej: Do you always provide these services for your incarcerated clients?

Belle: My clients don’t usually end up in prison.

Ej: Oof, lucky me.

Belle: Ej–

Ej: I’m kidding. I’m very grateful for everything you’ve done and to have you on my side. But you could probably hold onto the phone card because I have no one to call anyway.

Belle: You can call me for anything really, anytime.

Ej: Thank you, belle.

Chad: Ej.

Ej: The hell are you doing here?

Chad: I need to talk to you.

Ej: Belle just told me that abigail is missing. I’m very sorry.

Chad: Yeah, I bet.

Ej: Look, I don’t know anything about what happened to her, if that’s why you are here.

Chad: Maybe you don’t, but I’m almost certain our sister does, and I know you’ve been in contact with kristen. Where is she?

Abigail: Surely you understand how much I miss my kids. I mean, I’m sure you miss rachel.

Kristen: More than you know. Have you seen her?

Abigail: I have.

Kristen: How is she?

Abigail: She’s getting big. Yeah, I saw her at the mall with brady and chloe a few weeks–

Kristen: Okay, just shut up! Just stop it!

Abigail: I thought you wanted to know what you were missing.

Kristen: I did. I did, but the idea of chloe being–she… being she—oh my.

Abigail: Something wrong?

Kristen: Um… yeah, my head is–it’s just spinning.

Abigail: Well, it’s about damn time.

Kristen: What? What did you do?

Abigail: Well, I just–i went out exploring the property, the part you let me see, anyway, and I found some old sleeping pills in a medicine cabinet, and I am very happy to see they’re not expired.

Kristen: No.

Abigail: Yep, yeah. And let me just say, I wouldn’t slip a foreign substance into just anyone’s drink, given my own personal, unfortunate circumstance. But you, you, I felt deserved a little taste of your own medicine, so to speak.

Kristen: So you put it in there and then–

Abigail: Yeah, yeah, and i wasn’t sure how much I’d be able to get you to consume, so I put enough in there to tranquilize a horse. Quite frankly I’m surprised you’re still upright.

Kristen: Oh!

Abigail: That’s more like it.

Is now a good time

for a flare-up?

Gwen: What do you mean it didn’t seem like sarah?

Maggie: Well, my daughter has flaws, we all do. But she’s a very kind and caring person. And despite everything that happened between her and xander, I know how much xander meant to her. But for her to behave like that toward him, it was just–it was out of character, to say the least.

Gwen: Well, perhaps she’s changed since she left salem.

Maggie: Yes. Yes, honestly, she hasn’t been acting like herself since the day she took off.

Xander: Gwen, you’re dressed. That’s a shame. Maggie, hello. What are you doing here?

Maggie: Hello, xander. I just–I stopped by to see how you were holding up.

Xander: Well, I’m doing well, thank you.

Maggie: I heard. Excuse me, forgive me. Congratulations are in order. Gwen told me that the two of you are engaged.

Xander: Indeed we are. Thanks, maggie.

Maggie: I will always be sorry that things didn’t work out between you and sarah, but if gwen makes you happy, then I wish you both all the best.

Xander: I appreciate it.

Gwen: That’s very kind of you, thank you.

Maggie: Well, you two have a good day.

[Soft music]

Gwen: Something tells me she did not mean that.

Sarah: No one’s coming to rescue me. If I want to get out of here, I have to do it myself.

Steve: You’re not gonna believe this, baby.

Kayla: Wow, flare guns. Where’d you find those?

Steve: I was nosing around, and I noticed something in that grill over there. Gave it a yank, and it popped right off.

Kayla: If we could just get that door open.

Steve: Wait a minute.

Kayla: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, I’m not finished.

Steve: Oh, baby, listen. When we get back to salem, I’ll buy you a beautiful dinner. I promise. But this and these flare guns could be our ticket out of here.

Abigail: If I were a key, I’d be… right here.

[Tense music]

Ej: Let’s say I did know where kristen was. Why the hell would I tell you anything after you falsely accused me of forcing myself on your wife?

Chad: Falsely accused? I saw it with my own eyes.

Ej: I have no idea who or what you thought you saw–

Chad: You can try to explain this away all you want, but–

Belle: Stop it, stop it. None of this matters now. All right? We all care about abigail, and we all want to bring her home. Now, ej, if you can help chad find her, you will do that, won’t you? Wondering what actually goes into your multi-vitamin.

Ej: I do care about abigail as a sister-in-law and a friend, of course.

Chad: Of course.

Belle: Then you’ll help.

Ej: I’m sorry. Ever since kristen escaped town, I’ve tried to keep tabs on her, but I haven’t heard from her in months.

Belle: Are you sure?

Ej: Yes. I have no idea where she is, and that’s the god’s honest truth.

Chad: What about the dimera secret holdings? Have you checked any of those properties?

Ej: You have more information at your fingertips than I do. You hold the keys to the dimera kingdom after you railroaded me out of my job.

Chad: Stop playing the victim. Abigail’s the victim here.

Ej: Let’s not forget we both know that I don’t belong here.

Chad: You’re a criminal, ej, a sociopath; this is exactly where you belong.

Belle: All right. None of this–

Chad: Hopefully you stay locked up forever.

Belle: Chad, none of this is helpful.

Chad: Just being honest.

Ej: Oh, honest, like when you and lucas set me up, when you lied on the stand?

Belle: Listen, you should know that we’re filing an appeal, and we are gonna win because I know you know that ej is innocent.

Chad: Yeah, innocent is the last thing that he is.

Ej: You see, he couldn’t care less that I was wrongly convicted.

Chad: Justice has been served. The world is a better place with you behind bars. And if you never get out, there is nobody on the outside that is ever gonna miss you, least of all me. Belle.

[Tense music]

Xander: Was that awkward with maggie?

Gwen: A little.

Xander: I’m sorry.

Gwen: It’s okay. I understand that this is probably going to be a part of our lives now moving forward.

Xander: What do you mean?

Gwen: You were set to marry the lovely and beautiful sarah horton, the caring doctor from salem’s family that everybody loves–

Xander: Gwen.

Gwen: And instead you are settling for me, the town pariah who tried to destroy her sister’s life.

Xander: Gwen, look at me. Hey, look, I don’t care what anyone else thinks, even maggie. You’re everything I could ever want. I know we belong together.

Gwen: Are you sure about that?

Xander: Very sure. If you still don’t believe me, then please allow me to prove it.

[Soft music]

Kayla: Oh, try not to stab yourself.

Steve: I know what I’m doing.

Kayla: Uh-huh, I can’t begin to tell you how many people I have stitched up in the er for injuring themselves with utensils.

Steve: Picking locks?

Kayla: Among other things, yes.

Steve: Ooh, sorry I asked.

Kayla: Come on. Be careful, all right?

Steve: I know what I’m doing. Just don’t worry about me. Ow, oh, ow.

Kayla: That looks like it hurt, but I’m not gonna say I told you so.

Steve: You just did.

Kayla: Let me see your hand.

Belle: I’m sorry for what chad said to you.

Ej: I suppose I deserve some of it.

Belle: You don’t deserve to go to prison for a crime you didn’t commit. I’ll be back to discuss the appeal after you’ve had some time to settle in.

Ej: Thank you for being my lifeline.

Belle: Well, you hang in there. And I hope your cellmate is–

Ej: Is not a murderer, or somebody that hates all dimeras?

Belle: Well, neither would be very fun for you.

Ej: Although I hear that rafe hernandez could be an inmate soon. Now, that would be my worst nightmare.

Belle: Well, fingers crossed.

Ej: Thanks. I’m sure I’ll be fine.

[Cell phone rings]

Chad: Hey.

Shawn: Were you able to see ej?

Chad: Yeah, thanks for getting me in there. Belle was there, too.

Shawn: She was?

Chad: Yeah, working on his appeal.

Shawn: Right, right. Any luck?

Chad: Ej claims to know nothing about kristen.

Shawn: Do you believe him?

Chad: Hard to tell, but I think it’s a dead end. I guess we’re back to square one.

Shawn: Not necessarily. I may have a lead.

Gwen: Oh, my god. I thought you were just going window shopping.

Xander: Yeah, I decided to upgrade to actual shopping.

Gwen: Xander, how much did that cost? I hope you didn’t have to hock some precious possession or something.

Xander: I sold sarah’s engagement ring.

Gwen: Oh, xander.

Xander: No, it was silly that I’d held onto it as long as I had, just glad I got one last use for it, and very glad to finally put that part of my life behind me.

Gwen: It’s stunning.

Xander: So are you. Hold out your hand.

Gwen: Oh, my god. You’ve already done this once, you know.

Xander: Well, if it’ll make it stick, I’ll propose to you every day of our lives. Gwen rizczech, soon-to-be cook, will you marry me?

Gwen: Yes. A second time, yes. A thousand times, yes! Yes, yes, I will marry you.

Xander: I hope it fits.

Gwen: God, look at that. Xander, that is truly–that is so perfect. It’s beautiful. I love it. I love it so much. I love you. I love you so much. Thank you for making me the happiest woman in all the world.

[Tense music]

Kristen: Abigail, you have been very naughty. No.

Abigail: This is sarah’s room, isn’t it? Where is she?

Kayla: Okay, okay, okay. Stay still, all right?

Steve: Patching up patch. Just like the old days, huh, baby?

Kayla: How does it feel?

Steve: Well, kinda like a rare piece of beef.

Kayla: You are a rare piece of beef.

Steve: Am I now?

Kayla: Yes.

Steve: Okay, that’s good. But I think I’m gonna need a kiss to make it really feel better.

Kayla: Okay.

Steve: No, not there. Right here.

[Tense music]

Ej: Definitely not the ritz. Hello, mate. Sorry to disturb your rest. It looks like we’ll be sharing a cell, so I guess we’ll be spending quite a bit of time together.

Johnny as jake: I would like a guarantee in writing that i will be made ceo of dimera after we take over.

Maggie: Yeah. Well, I’ll see what he says.

Johnny as jake: And now, let’s talk about titan.

Maggie: Victor has very strong reservations about putting an outsider, someone out of the family, in charge of his company. I’m–I’m afraid making gabi ceo of titan just may be off the table. Is that a dealbreaker?

Gabi: Sure as hell is.

Johnny as jake: Absolutely not.

Maggie: Really?

Johnny as jake: Mm-hmm.

Maggie: I thought making gabi ceo of titan was one of your conditions.

Johnny as jake: It was, but I wouldn’t want something like that to sour the deal. As long as I’m made ceo of dimera enterprises, I got everything I want.

[Unsettling music]

Ava: Not fast enough, but it’ll do.

Jake: What are you so happy about?

Nicole: What time are you talking to the lawyer? Great. Hopefully she has a strategy that to get the charges thrown out. In the meantime, I will try to find a way to prove that ava is the one who is setting you up. Don’t worry, rafe. We are going to clear your name, one way or another. Hey, just call me after you talk to the lawyer. Okay? Good luck.

Allie: Hey. Sorry. I didn’t mean to interrupt.

Nicole: No, that’s okay. I–I thought you were working today.

Allie: I am. I was just grabbing an early lunch. Were you talking to rafe?

Nicole: Yeah.

Allie: How’s he doing?

Nicole: Not great. Even when the criminals accused him of planting evidence, I didn’t actually think they would arrest him. I mean, this is a nightmare.

Allie: I’m so sorry. But I mean, if he’s not guilty, then the cops are going to figure that out, right?

Nicole: [Scoffs] I’m not so sure about that.

Chanel: Mama, what’s going on?

Paulina: Nothing. I just thought it would be nice to take a family trip to miami. Get out of this cold weather. Well, hurry up and pack up some things.

Chanel: I’m not going anywhere. Now that I’ve served johnny with those divorce papers, it’s finally heating up around here.

[Knocks on door]

Lani: You back already? Mr. Coates, uh, what are you doing here?

Tr: But I did meet your cousin, though.

Chanel: What cousin?

Tr: Lani grant.

Chanel: Oh, no, you got the wrong information. Lani’s not my cousin. She’s my sister.

Lani: Mr. Coates?

Tr: I’m sorry to show up unannounced, lani, but there’s something important I have to discuss with you. And it can’t wait.

Lani: Tr, I know you are in business with chanel’s husband, johnny, but if you’ve come here to try to talk me into asking her not to sue him–

Tr: That’s not why I came to see you.

Lani: Good, because I don’t have anything to do with chanel’s marriage or her divorce.

Tr: I can’t imagine she wouldn’t value your opinion.

Lani: [Scoffs] You don’t know chanel. Her opinion is the only one that she values.

Tr: Mm, like her mother before.

Lani: Okay. The point is even, if I wanted to influence her, which I don’t, I can guarantee you that I would have no effect.

Tr: But she is your sister, right?

Allie: Everyone at salem pd knows that rafe is a good cop. I mean, they have to realize that they made a mistake.

Nicole: Not just a mistake. Someone is framing him.

Allie: Who would do that to him?

Nicole: I can’t say for sure. Not yet anyway, but I’m working on finding some proof.

Allie: Okay, well, you don’t have to do it alone. There are so many people who care about rafe, and everyone will help you clear his name. I mean, you have me and ava.

Nicole: Well…

Allie: What?

Nicole: Honestly, allie, I don’t think ava’s gonna be much help.

Ava: Oh, just reading a silly article in the health section. “Ten ways to drive your lover crazy.”

Jake: Ha, is that good crazy or bad crazy?

Ava: A little of both.

Jake: Lucky rafe.

Ava: Lucky rafe. What are you doing home in the middle of the afternoon?

Jake: Unemployed, remember?

Ava: [Chuckles] So shouldn’t you be out pounding the pavement? Looking for a job so you can move you and your girlfriend outta here?

Jake: That might happen sooner than you think.

Ava: Oh, music to my ears.

Jake: You know, see, gabi and I, we got a plan. So as much as I’m loving these random run-ins between the two of us, you’re probably not gonna see us around here much longer.

Maggie: Well, I’m sure victor will be happy to learn that he doesn’t have to hand over titan to an outsider.

Johnny as jake: Well, I aim to keep everyone happy.

Maggie: Aren’t you forgetting someone?

Gabi: Thank you, maggie.

Johnny as jake: Am I?

Maggie: I thought gabi helped engineer this deal. Now, isn’t she gonna be upset when she learns that she’s not getting the titan job?

Johnny as jake: Don’t worry. I can handle gabi. The world is full of make or break moments.

Allie: But ava is rafe’s girlfriend.

Nicole: She is.

Allie: Okay, so why wouldn’t she help us in figuring out who’s framing him?

Nicole: Let’s just say, ava and rafe’s relationship is complicated.

Allie: Wait, are you saying–

Nicole: I’m–I’m not saying anything.

Allie: But you’re suggesting that tripp’s mother could be the one who’s framing him for this?

Nicole: Like I said, I don’t have any proof.

Allie: Okay, but that’s what you think.

Nicole: It’s just a hunch.

Allie: There has to be a reason. Why would rafe’s own girlfriend wanna frame him for a crime?

Nicole: Well, allie, just lately, I’ve been getting a sense that ava is just having some anger issues.

Allie: At rafe?

Nicole: And me.

Allie: What? Why would ava– why would ava be mad at you? I mean, it’s not like there’s anything going on you and rafe. Oh…

Jake: No more coffee?

Ava: Rafe was the one who’d usually put on a second pot.

Jake: Gotcha. Listen, I’m sorry about everything that’s going on with him. Didn’t see that coming.

Ava: Well, neither did he.

Jake: You know, if anybody was gonna get nailed for corruption, I would’ve thought–

Ava: It would’ve been me?

Jake: Eh…

Ava: Eh. Yeah. That’s what you were gonna say. I know it, and you would’ve a fair point. But you and gabi, you’re not as pure as the driven snow either. If you remember, you and i were in the same business.

Jake: Emphasis on “were.”

Ava: And gabi?

Jake: What about her?

Ava: Well, she may not have been convicted of most of her crimes, but her rap sheet is almost as long as mine. Your girlfriend’s a killer with a nice wardrobe.

Maggie: I thought that you and gabi were equal partners.

Johnny as jake: Some partners are more equal than others. Trust me, I got gabi under control.

Maggie: Well, now that we have that straightened out, do we have anything else to discuss?

Johnny as jake: I think that pretty much covers it all.

Maggie: Great. Well, let me walk you out.

Johnny as jake: Oh, no, I– I know my own way out.

Maggie: All right. Well then, I’ll let victor know what we discussed.

Johnny as jake: I appreciate it. And…pleasure doing business with you.

[Sinister music]

Johnny: Well, now, if that doesn’t drive jake and gabi apart, I don’t know what will.

Paulina: Baby, what–what do you mean that things are just starting to heat up? I mean, you actually want to deal with the fallout from serving johnny the divorce papers?

Chanel: I mean, I’d obviously rather not, but I’m not gonna run from it either. I need to be able to keep an eye on him.

Paulina: Baby, that’s what lawyers are for. Oh, and if you ask me, what you need is something to take your mind off your snake-in-the-grass soon-to-be ex-husband. Like a little fun in the sun with your family.

Chanel: I don’t know. It just feels wrong to leave.

Paulina: Oh. Oh. Oh, I get it. Oh, you need to be in control, just like your mama.

[Laughs] Darling, if you need to micromanage your attorneys, you’re only a phone call away.

Chanel: No, it’s not just that. Even if I wanted to leave town, I’m obligated to stay contractually.

Lani: What am I missing here?

Tr: When I bumped into paulina, your mother, she told me that chanel was her only child, which obviously isn’t true.

Lani: Obviously, you have financial interest in chanel’s lawsuit because of your stake in johnny’s movie. Paulina probably just didn’t want you trying to get to chanel through me.

Tr: That’s not why she lied.

Gabi: How could jake double-cross me like this? After everything that we’ve been through, he just sells me out? Like–like I don’t matter? Like we don’t matter?

[Cell phone rings] The heck! This thing was dead. Johnny?

Johnny: Gabi, hey. I was just calling to find out how your visit with maggie went.

Gabi: [Sighs] It didn’T.

Johnny: What do you mean? I thought you said you went over there to talk to her.

Gabi: I did go to see her.

Johnny: But you didn’t tell her about my shares?

Gabi: No, that two-faced son of a bitch beat me to the punch!

Johnny: Gabi, did something happen?

Gabi: Oh, if you call somebody stabbing you in the back “something happening.”

Johnny: Where are you? I’ll be right there.

Allie: You and rafe?

Nicole: It was just one time. We are not having an affair. It’s just–I was scared. Rafe was there. He was comforting me. And one thing led to another.

Allie: I understand. But are you sure it’s just a one-time thing? Because, you know, sometimes you say it’s over, but the feelings are still there.

Nicole: Well, we were just discussing that right before he was arrested, but we are not going to have an affair behind ava’s back. We don’t even know if she knows what happened between us. But if she does, then she’s lashing out at rafe for betraying her with me, and I feel responsible to help.

Allie: You are a good person.

Nicole: Oh, I don’t–I don’t feel like it right now, but thank you. Allie, like I said, this is just a theory, so I have to ask: Can you please not say anything to anyone about this?

Allie: You mean, not even tripp?

Ava: Oh, what a surprise. Oh, my son, who is a full-fledged doctor is still going to make house calls.

Tripp: Oh, for you, always. But wait, you’re not sick, though, right?

Ava: No, not at all. And with you here, I couldn’t feel any better.

Tripp: I’m glad to hear it. I wasn’t sure you’d be home. I figured you’d be down at the station visiting rafe.

Tripp: I hope that goes well.

Ava: Yeah. Me too. So, dr. Johnson, to what do I owe the pleasure of this visit?

Tripp: Well, I’ve kind of made a really big life decision, and I just wanted you to be the first to know. , Well, among the first.

Tripp: I’m gonna ask allie to marry me.

Ava: Really?

Tripp: Really.

Ava: [Sighs contentedly] Honey, that is wonderful. Oh, my goodness! I am so happy for you!

Tripp: Oh. Do you really mean that?

Paulina: You’re contractually obligated to stay in salem?

Chanel: That’s what they tell me.

Paulina: Honey, I’m pretty sure allie can’t make you run the bakery against your will.

Chanel: No, it’s not about the bakery. It’s the movie.

Paulina: Johnny’s movie? Well, I thought that was– what’s the expression– I thought it was “in turnaround.”

Chanel: Yeah. Well, I guess now it’s out, and he’s making it again.

Paulina: [Scoffs] So your soon-to-be-ex, that miserable dog who just threw away the best thing that ever happened to him, he still wants you to be in it?

Chanel: Yeah, I don’t know if johnny still does, but the studio definitely does. The guy who came me made that very clear.

Paulina: What guy?

Chanel: Oh, he actually said he knows you.

Paulina: Oh, yeah?

Chanel: Uh-huh. Yeah, he said the two of you go way back. His name was tr coates.

Lani: You know why my mother lied to you?

Tr: I knew your mother a long time ago. Over 30 years ago, to be exact, we had a relationship. So when chanel told me that you were paulina’s daughter, I did the math, and I realized that I could be your father.

Lani: [Scoffs] Mr. Coates– um, tr, I think you’re confused. You may have had a relationship with my mother, but my father is some guy named ray.

Tr: Ray coates.

Lani: Uh-huh. Tr.

Tr: That’s me, lani. I’m terrell raymond coates. When tough pain hits,

Nicole: I know this is a lot to ask. Ava is tripp’s mother, and I’m sure you don’t like hiding things from tripp.

Allie: I hate it.

Nicole: I’m sorry. I’m sorry. The last thing I wanna do is make you lie to your boyfriend, even if it’s a lie of omission. But please, allie, I’m– can you please do this for me?

Ava: Why wouldn’t I be happy that my son is gonna propose to his girlfriend?

Tripp: Because a few weeks ago, you said that you thought there was a little more than friendship going on between allie and chanel. And you thought that she was gonna break my heart.

Ava: Yeah, I did say that I suspected they might be more than friends.

Tripp: Mm-hmm, but the way you went on about it, you know, I wasn’t sure if you were talking about me and allie, or you and rafe.

Ava: I know you asked me that question, and the truth is, you were probably right. Rafe and I were going through some stuff, and I should not have projected it onto you.

Tripp: What kind of stuff? Were you afraid that he has feeling for someone else?

Ava: It doesn’t matter. I figured out a way to work through it. And I think allie is a great girl. I am always gonna be an overprotective mama, but I see that she makes you happy, and that’s all I could ever hope for. I want nothing but the best for you.

Tripp: Same, mom. Same.

Jake: Gabi? Johnny?

[Sighs] Where the hell are they?

[Sighs]

Johnny: Gabi? Hey, are you okay?

Gabi: Do I look okay?

Johnny: You look upset.

Gabi: Oh, why would i be upset? Oh, maybe because the man that I’ve been with for almost a year, the man who claims to love me, just threw me outta the bus.

Johnny: What did jake do?

Gabi: What did he do? He just put a knife between my shoulder blades. That’s what he did.

Johnny: Just tell– tell me everything. What happened?

Gabi: I went over to see maggie. He was already there, so I hung back to listen. He didn’t know I was listening. And, you know, he was talking about the plan on how we’re gonna get victor on the board at dimera.

Johnny: Yeah. That’s part of the plan, right? Soften victor up for the kill.

Gabi: That was the plan. But then, maggie said that victor could not have me be the ceo of titan. And jake, you know what he said? He said that would be no problem, that it was not a dealbreaker.

Johnny: Are you serious? He said that?

Gabi: Yeah, he said that as long as he got what he wanted, he had no trouble handling me.

Johnny: That double-dealing bastard.

Paulina: You spoke to tr coates? When?

Chanel: This morning. He stopped by the bakery. He told allie and me that he’s holding us to our contracts.

Paulina: And my name came up?

Chanel: Yeah, he was saying how he knows you from back in the day.

Paulina: Oh, yeah? What else did he say?

Chanel: Uh, that he bumped into you yesterday. Oh, and that he met lani too.

Paulina: What about her?

Chanel: I don’t know what she told him, but he thought that she was my cousin.

Paulina: And what did you say to that?

Chanel: I told him that he was mixed up and that she’s my sister.

Paulina: Oh, no.

Chanel: Mama, what is it?

Lani: You’re ray? Hmm. Paulina’s told me all about you.

Tr: Listen, lani–

Lani: You need to get away from me. Do you hear me?

Tr: I know from what you’ve heard, you have every reason to be afraid–

Lani: You need to leave this apartment, now.

Tr: I’m sure paulina has said all kind of terrible things about me.

Lani: I said, get out! Do not make me get my gun!

Tr: Please, lani. I just want you to know that I am not the same man that I was when I was with your mother. I gave up the drugs. I got sober. I can’t tell you how much therapy I’ve been through. I promise you, I’m a different man now. One that you could be proud to call your father.

Nicole: I’m trying. I am, but it’s not like I can just go over to rafe’s and start looking through ava’s things, because if I show up there, she’s gonna know that I’m onto her.

Allie: Right. And I mean, she’s already suspicious of you.

Nicole: Yeah, exactly.

Allie: Well, what about me?

Nicole: What? No, allie you cannot go through ava’s things. You would never betray tripp like that.

Tripp: Yeah, so I was gonna ask allie’s parents in person for their blessing, but they’re out of town and I can’t get ahold of them.

Ava: Well, you will.

Tripp: But I figured that asking her grandfather was the next best thing.

Ava: And what did roman have to say?

Tripp: He said he was thrilled for us, and he wholeheartedly gave his blessing.

Ava: Of course he did because he knows that he could not ask for a better grandson-in-law. You are caring and a very loving man. And you’re a doctor. You’re gonna be a wonderful, wonderful father to henry.

Tripp: I really hope so. I– I love that little guy so much.

Ava: Having you in his life, I know he’s gonna grow to be an incredible man.

Tripp: Thank you for saying that.

Ava: Yeah. So when are you gonna pop up the question?

Tripp: Oh, well, was thinking about valentine’s day.

Ava: That’s very romantic.

Tripp: Yes, but not if i can’t find the right ring.

Ava: You haven’t bought one yet?

Tripp: Not yet. No, as a brand-new doctor, you know, I barely take home enough to make my loan payments. So I’m still trying to figure out what I can afford.

Ava: Hold that thought.

Johnny: It’s no wonder you’re so upset. And it’s one thing to be betrayed by your business partner, but when you’re sleeping with him too…

Gabi: He told me he loved me. How could he? I never thought he could do something like this.

Johnny: Beyond his type, I never fully trusted the guy.

Gabi: I did. You know what ironic? This morning, he told me he was worried about you.

Johnny: Me?

Gabi: That we would be spending time together and he–that would leave him the odd man out.

Johnny: Well, I think that’s what you call projecting.

Gabi: I call it lying.

Johnny: Look, I’m sorry that he hurts you like this, but at least now, you can see jake for who he really is.

Gabi: A dimera?

Johnny: A second-rate dimera, so busy trying to prove himself that he can’t appreciate everything you bring to the table. Your business acumen. Your intellect. Not to mention your complete willingness to go for the throat. Jake is lucky to have you as a business partner. And if he can’t see that, then he doesn’t deserve you.

Gabi: You know what, you’re right. Yes. Yes. He does not deserve me, that backstabbing creep. I’m gonna tell him right now.

Johnny: No, gabi. Wait, wait. Hey. Maybe you shouldn’T.

Paulina: You told tr coates that lani’s your sister?

Chanel: Yeah. What is the big deal? It’s all out in the open now, isn’t it?

Paulina: Ye–yes. Well–oh, but–

Chanel: But what? I mean, what does it matter if some random stranger knows the truth? Mama?

Paulina: Go home right now.

Chanel: Wait, what?

Paulina: You heard me. Go home right now and pack your bag.

Chanel: What is the hurry?

Paulina: Just do it and be ready to go to the airport as soon as I get back.

Paulina: To pick up lani. Oh.

Lani: Why would I want anything to do with you?

Lani: No. All these years, I didn’t know paulina was my mother. They told me she was my aunt. Her sister raised me as her own.

Lani: My own mother gave her child away. And you wanna know why?

Lani: Because of you! Because she was so afraid of you, afraid that if you even found out that I existed, that you would never leave her alone– that you would keep threatening her, abusing her. And her worst fear was that if you found out that I was your daughter, that you would do the same thing to me. And then you come waltzing in here, telling me about all the self-help work you’ve done on yourself. And what? What? You just expect me to run into your arms? Call you daddy? Huh?

Tr: Please, lani. I realize I’m a stranger to you and everything you’ve been told makes you want to turn and run the other way, but I swear to you, I’m a changed man. And I just want to get to know my daughter. We’re eating and drinking foods and beverages

Jake: Gabi? Johnny?

[Sighs] Where are they?

Gabi: Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t confront that bastard right now?

Johnny: Look, you can do what you want, but if it were me, I wouldn’t be so quick to throw away my advantage.

Gabi: My advantage?

Johnny: You saw jake for who he really is. And I can’t imagine how much it must have hurt to hear him talking that way, but maybe honestly, it’s good that you did, ’cause now, you have the upper hand.

Gabi: So you think I should keep acting as dumb as jake thinks I am?

Johnny: Exactly. Let him think he’s the only one playing both sides. He does still have his shares, doesn’t he?

Gabi: For now.

Johnny: So why don’t we work behind his back to relieve him of them?

Gabi: Turnabout is fair play.

Johnny: You have the element of surprise. And you have something he doesn’t: Me. I think we could do great things together, gabi. Run this town. Maybe even shake up the whole world.

Gabi: All right, let’s do it. Let’s take everything.

Johnny: Yeah. Let’S.

[Laughs]

Ava: Knew I was saving this for a reason.

[Tender music]

Tripp: Mom, this is– this is beautiful.

Ava: Mm. It was my grandmother’S. And she gave it to me when I was a little girl, right before she died. My grandfather gave it to her when he proposed to her. Look at what the inscription says.

Tripp: “Amore mio.”

Ava: Mm. That’s what allie is. She’s your amore.

Tripp: Mom, this is amazing, but I–I can’t take this.

Ava: Why not? It is a family heirloom. That was your great-grandmother’S. Come on, it’s not like I’ve got a daughter I’m gonna pass it down to.

Tripp: Are you sure?

Ava: Of course. Nothing would make me happier than to see my future daughter-in-law with that on her finger.

Tripp: I–I can’t wait to give it to her. Thank you so much, mom.

Ava: Aw, baby, you don’t have to thank me. I am just–I’m so happy that you found someone who loves you as much as I do.

Allie: Hey.

Chanel: Hey.

Allie: I brought some extra chowder.

Chanel: Oh, I’m not hungry, but thank you.

Chanel: I don’t know. Can we talk?

Chanel: Well, I might need you to cover me at the bakery for a while.

Chanel: My mom was just here, and she wants me to go to miami with her.

Chanel: At first, I didn’t want to, but now I’m thinking it might be a good idea to get away and put some distance between me and this whole terrible situation with johnny and the divorce and…other things.

Allie: Other things. Like sleeping with me?

Tr: Lani, I know how complicated this situation is.

Lani: No, it’s not complicated at all. You are not my father. I already have a father, and he is the best man that I know.

Tr: Look, I am happy to hear that, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t get to know each other. We can take the first steps now, today.

Paulina: Get the hell away from her! Avoiding triggers, but can’t keep migraine attacks away?

Paulina: You heard me. Stay the hell away from my daughter!

Tr: Oh, so you’re admitting she is your daughter.

Paulina: Did I not make myself clear? Get outta here now!

Tr: All right. You can kick me outta here, but that does not change the fact that lani is also my daughter.

Paulina: She is nothing to you, and she never will be!

Tr: All right. I know I missed a lot of years and I will never be able to get those back, but I’m gonna do whatever I have to do to be a father to you now. That’s a promise.

Paulina: Oh, baby. Oh, baby.

Gabi: [Sighs] Oh, got them.

Gabi: Hi.

Jake: Hi. I’ve been looking everywhere for you.

Gabi: Have you?

Jake: Yeah. I stopped by the dimeras’. You and johnny weren’t there.

Gabi: Oh, you must have, uh, missed us. So what have you been up to?

Jake: Oh, well I stopped by ben’s new place to see him. I stopped back at home, ran into ava. You weren’t there. Like I said, been looking for you.

Jake: Well, I’m here now.

Gabi: Hmm, busy day.

Jake: Yeah.

Tripp: Are you sure you’re okay with me taking this ring? I mean, what if you want it for yourself?

Ava: Oh, you don’t have to worry about that.

Tripp: Yeah, but I mean, a cop salary can’t be much more than a new doctor, so I mean–

Ava: Okay, I said you don’t have to worry about that.

Tripp: Are you okay?

Ava: Listen.

[Chuckles dryly] My love life has been spotty, to say the least, and I’ve been hurt more times than I can even count, but I still believe in happily ever after. I love you.

[Sighs] We could have had our happily ever after, but you threw it all away. And now, you’ll have to pay for that.

Chanel: I wasn’t talking about what happened between us, horton.

Allie: Are you sure?

Chanel: I am. Yeah. Yeah, I just meant between my divorce and this movie, and I really need to get away from johnny. But I promise you, that this isn’t about us sleeping together.

Tripp: Well, you know, I only do it for the doughnuts. It’s got nothing to do with spending a little extra time with you or anything.

Allie: Oh, no. My illusions are shattered.

Tripp: That’s good, ’cause you’re gonna be hearing it for the rest of your life.

Allie: That’s fine by me.

Tr: Salem has a certain amount of charm. I’m ginning to think we can shoot the whole movie on location, interiors and everything. Maybe I can even get the real marlena evans to do an unbilled cameo. Oh, I’m absolutely serious. We’re calling the movie “possessed: The marlena evans story,” right? So what could be better than shooting it where it actually happened? Oh, you assume correctly. I won’t be leaving this town anytime soon.

Paulina: You cannot blow this. You’ve been working your whole life to make sure that lani doesn’t go anywhere near ray coates. Now, here he is, in salem. You go in there. You do whatever it takes to make sure he never finds out he has a daughter.

Lani: Ah, a-ha, okay. I just need to get them into their snowsuits, their scarves, their hats. That should take about an hour and a half. Okay.

[Knocking on door] Paulina.

Paulina: Pack your bags, baby. We are done freezing our behinds off. We’re going south for the winter.

Jake: You’re really quiet this morning.

Gabi: I’m worried about rafe.

Jake: Rafe is one of the most honest guys I know. These charges? They’re not gonna stick.

[Cell phone beeps]

Jake: That phone. It’s blowing up this morning. Who is that?

Jake: Well, little twerp’s persistent.

Gabi: He wants me to go over to his place. He thinks we need to talk.

[Cell phone beeps]

[Knocking on door] Oh, did you come here to beg me to take you back?

Chanel: I wouldn’t lower myself to do a thing like that.

Johnny: Then what do you want?

Chanel: I brought you something.

Johnny: Aw, you shouldn’t have.

Johnny: You think you’re gonna get this much money from me?

Chanel: It’s called spousal support, and yeah. I do.

Johnny: We were married for, like, two days.

Chanel: So? You have dimera enterprises, and I have a bakery. And you were so hot to get married that you didn’t make me sign a prenup, so my lawyer says I can take you for a lot.

Johnny: You know, my dad was right about you. You just married me for my money.

Jake: Let me see your phone. There are no secrets between us, right?

Chanel: Right.

Jake: [Laughs] I thought the dude was supposed to have some sort of fancy education. There’s hardly any words here. It’s all emojis and smileys, the little devil guy.

Gabi: That’s how people his age communicate.

Jake: Well, I especially like this last one about how you two should get sweaty together. The big man talking about his workout.

Gabi: See you later.

Jake: Where are you going?

Gabi: Where do you think I’m going? I’m gonna go close the deal with that little devil. Doesn’t mean what he thinks it means.

Jake: So wait a minute. If johnny gets what he wants, he’s gonna get you in a bed, and you’re gonna be running titan. And with ej in jail, all he’s gotta do is freeze chad out, and he can run dimera enterprises himself. And where does that leave me, huh? Here with nothing.

Gabi: Stop pouting, jake. Johnny is not gonna get his way, okay?

Tripp: I can’t wait to get off work, so we can pick up where we left off.

Allie: I can’t wait either, and, tripp, I’ve been thinking. You know what, never mind.

Tripp: Come on, come on. What were you gonna say?

Allie: Just that I’ve been feeling a little guilty lately, like I’ve been distracted sometimes, when we’re together I mean. I just haven’t been connecting with you as much as usual.

Tripp: I haven’t noticed that.

Allie: Really?

Tripp: I mean, I guess sometimes I sense that you’ve got your mind on work or what happened between chanel and johnny, but I don’t expect you to be focused on me all the time.

Allie: I know, I know that, and I don’t expect that of you either. Just, I feel like, even if you’re not focused on me all the time, you’re still there for me 100% and for henry.

Tripp: Well you and henry, you’re the most important people in my life.

Allie: You’re important to me, too, tripp, and henry, but I’m sure you know that, ’cause you must notice how he lights up every time you walk in the room and how you make him laugh.

Tripp: Yeah, except when he wanted to play with my phone, and I had to take it away from him, and he screamed his head off.

Allie: Okay, but then you calmed him down in what, like ten seconds? And he was smiling again.

Tripp: Making him smile. That is my favorite pastime. Allie, what are you thinking about?

Allie: Just that you are the kindest, most caring person I’ve ever known. I’m really grateful to have you in my life.

Tripp: I am beyond grateful to have you in mine, and although I’m obviously not henry’s dad, I love him so much. I really look forward to, you know, throwing a ball with him, maybe coach his little league team one day.

Allie: You would make an amazing coach, not to mention a great dad, which you already kind of are, to henry I mean.

Tripp: I do hope that he thinks of me that way.

Allie: I know he does, and now I know you need to go, so henry and I will be waiting for you.

Tr: Excuse me.

Allie: Oh, hi.

Tr: I need to talk to chanel dupree. It’s important.

Lani: You always make these big announcements, and I have no idea what you’re talking about.

Paulina: Well, this is my first winter up north in a long time, and I’m just sick to death of it. And I was watching the weather report this morning, and they said some groundhog saw his shadow, and we’re in for six more weeks of this garbage.

Lani: Yes, I know. I have two toddlers who get very cranky, if they don’t go to the park every day.

Paulina: So why stay here when I have this big, huge, and fabulous house sitting empty in miami? You don’t even have to pack little jules and carver’s things. I’ve already bought enough. Everything they–

Lani: What, you’ve already brought them clothes?

Paulina: Mm-hmm, what’s wrong with that? They’re my grandbabies.

Lani: Okay. I know what you’re doing.

Paulina: I’m not sure I know what you mean.

Lani: Don’t play dumb with me. You and I, we had a moment.

Paulina: I’ll never forget it. That chandelier started to fall on me, and you screamed out, “mom!” Oh, you saved my life.

Lani: And here you are trying to get us all to go to florida with you.

Paulina: What’s wrong with that?

Lani: What about eli?

Paulina: Well, he’s visiting valerie.

Lani: And my job?

Paulina: Oh, we can figure that all out.

Lani: Okay, no, no. It’s too soon. If you and I are gonna have a relationship, a real one, there has to be less style and a lot more substance.

Paulina: What does that mean?

Lani: It means that you need to be patient and present.

Paulina: You’re right.

Lani: Okay, so we agree.

Paulina: Yes. I want to do whatever it takes to be a good mother to you.

Lani: And I am open to giving you that chance, so I do appreciate your offer, but no, we’re not going to florida with you.

Allie: Chanel’s usually here by now actually. I don’t know what’s keeping her, but I work here with her, and I’m her best friend. Is there anything I can help you with?

Tr: This isn’t about the bakery.

Chanel: I just got back from seeing your pig of a brother.

Allie: Hey, and this man is here to see you.

Chanel: Me, why?

Tr: My name is tr coates. So you’re chanel dupree.

Chanel: That’s right, and how can I help you, mr. Coates?

Tr: Well, you can start by calling me tr.

Chanel: And why would I do that? I don’t even know you.

Tr: I’m here to talk to you about your role in “possessed.”

Chanel: Why?

Tr: Because I’m the guy who’s producing it. I made the deal with johnny dimera.

Ben: Hey.

Jake: Yo.

Ben: Good to see you, man.

Jake: You too, man.

Ben: What’s going on?

Jake: Your know, your cross is hanging upside-down.

Ben: Oh, what the hell? It keeps doing that. It must be, like, top heavy or something. Anyway, come on in.

Jake: Didn’t know you and ciara were religious.

Ben: It was a housewarming gift from her grandma.

Jake: Guess you can’t be too careful. The devil was after your baby.

Ben: Yeah, thank god that’s all over now.

Jake: Yeah. How’s ciara doing?

Ben: She’s good, she’s good. The morning sickness is all over, and she says she feels great. Baby’s doing well, so…

Jake: That’s good. You two deserve some happiness.

Ben: Thanks, man.

Jake: Yeah.

Ben: How are things with you?

Jake: Eh, could be better. This pushy little creep is after gabi.

Johnny: You were married, like, a million times. How much alimony were you paying? I guess we’re alike when it comes to beautiful women. We just can’t say no. Right, nonno?

Gabi: I know I’m not supposed to be eavesdropping, but were you two talking about me? Life’s been hard enough.

Gabi: So this was your workout, chatting it up with your dead grandfather?

Johnny: Did you know him well?

Gabi: We crossed paths a few times.

Johnny: That’s all?

Gabi: He didn’t give off a warm and fuzzy vibe, at least not around me, but I did admire the way he sold himself as a businessman. I mean, when I knew he had the heart of a mob boss.

Johnny: Well, I’m sure that if he were still around, he would return the admiration.

Gabi: I doubt it.

Johnny: I assume you’re here to talk about my dimera shares.

Gabi: I have news. Maggie is representing victor in all of this, and jake and I have a deal with her.

Johnny: What are the terms?

Gabi: We vote victor onto the board of dimera, and then he makes me ceo of titan.

Johnny: Well, I see what you get. I see what victor gets. What I don’t see is, well, what’s in it for me?

Jake: Nice new digs. It’s an improvement from that place over the garage.

Ben: We got a baby coming.

Jake: Yeah.

Ben: Can’t have the kid breathing in fumes all day long, right? Not to mention this is a bigger space, so we got the room now for a nursery.

Jake: That’s good. Well, you need help painting or fixing the place up, say the word.

Ben: I was already counting on that.

Jake: All right.

Ben: So what’s going on? Are you gonna tell me who this creep is you think that’s going after gabi?

Jake: Johnny dimera.

Ben: Him?

Jake: Yeah, you know him?

Ben: Yeah. I just met him yesterday. He was the one who dropped the cross off from julie. You think he’s going after gabi?

Jake: I know he is. Dude already dumped his wife.

Chanel: Yeah, I don’t think johnny still wants me in his movie.

Allie: Yeah, and why would chanel want to be in a movie made by some soulless cretin?

Tr: Come on. Do you even know johnny?

Allie: Yeah. Only since the womb. He’s my twin brother.

Tr: Ah, so you must be allie horton.

Allie: That’s right.

Tr: You’re playing your mother when she was your age.

Allie: Not anymore.

Tr: Well, it’s good you’re here; saves me from making the same pitch twice.

Chanel: And what pitch is that?

Tr: That you’re both under contract to my production company. If you don’t fulfill your contractual obligations, I will sue you and win.

Allie: Okay, go for it, ’cause there’s no way in hell–

Chanel: That either of us is gonna do that damn movie.

Tripp: Mr. Brady.

Roman: Tripp, how you doing?

Tripp: I’m fine, I’m fine. I was wondering if you had heard from allie’s folks.

Roman: Not a word, but wouldn’t expect to.

Tripp: They’re together, right?

Roman: Yeah, yeah. After what sami went through, I think they’re lying low. Is there a problem?

Tripp: No, no, not a problem. You know, just kind of like to do things by the book.

Roman: Okay, good for you.

Tripp: Yeah, and I’m also a little scared of allie’s mom.

Roman: Well, sami does have that effect on a lot of people.

Tripp: Yes, and she doesn’t like to be left out of things.

Roman: Uh-huh. You mind telling me what things you’re talking about?

Tripp: Well, I, uh… I love allie, sir, and I’m gonna ask her to marry me. Like pulsing, electric shocks,

Roman: Oh, okay. This is–I’m surprised.

Tripp: Not me. No. I think I fell in love with her the first time I ever saw her at that club in london. You know, she was a little too wasted to really see me, but I brought her home, put her to bed, and left her my phone number. And I hoped that we can start something good that next day, but then she never called, and we both know why.

Roman: Right.

Tripp: You know, but we came through all of that, and, you know, getting to the bottom of it, I never stopped loving her. And I love henry, too, you know. I come home from work, and, like, he just breaks out in this big grin, and I mean there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for them, mr. Brady. I want to take care of allie and henry for the rest of my life.

Roman: Okay, all right. Well, you know what, tripp? You’ve told me a lot about how you feel, but how does allie feel?

Tripp: She says she loves me. She acts like she does.

Roman: Be sure about that before you start talking marriage. I just don’t want to see you two make a big mistake.

Tr: I understand johnny broke your heart.

Chanel: Was that what he told you?

Tr: No. I heard that from your mother.

Chanel: And how do you know her?

Tr: Paulina and i go way back. I knew your mama when you were just a twinkle in her big, brown eyes. I’m very sorry about your father.

Chanel: You knew him, too?

Tr: No, sadly, I never had the pleasure.

Chanel: I miss him.

Tr: I’m sure you do, but i did meet your cousin though.

Chanel: What cousin?

Tr: Lani grant.

Chanel: Oh, no. You got the wrong information. Lani’s not my cousin. She’s my sister.

Lani: Excuse me? Are you telling me what to do?

Paulina: No. It’s not about me. It’s about big mama.

Lani: What, is she okay?

Paulina: I know she didn’t want me to tell you, but she hasn’t been feeling well.

Lani: Is it serious?

Paulina: No. I think she’s just lonely, but she would love to see you and the babies, but I don’t want her coming up here where it’s so cold. So I told her I’d do whatever it takes to get you and the kids down there, just for a couple of weeks, and perfect timing, eli’s–since he’s away.

Lani: No, I can’T. Look, I cannot leave town right now. I made a promise to someone that I would be here for her.

Paulina: And who’s that?

Lani: Chanel. Her heart is broken, and she needs someone to talk to until she can put her life back together. And that someone is going to be me.

Ben: Johnny dimera had a wife?

Jake: Well, he did, for about two days, and then he kicked her to the curb, started sniffing around gabi.

Ben: How did that happen?

Jake: All right, so after I got booted out of dimera, I took a job with titan with gabi. She and I both got fired from titan, and we got sick of sitting on the sidelines.

Ben: What does that have to do with johnny?

Jake: I’m getting there. So gabi still thinks that she has some pull with victor, ’cause he wants to hang onto her company, right? Victor also wants a seat on the dimera board, so we’re hoping that we have enough votes to put him there.

Ben: You want to put victor kiriakis on the board of dimera enterprises? Isn’t that like putting the fox on the board of the henhouse?

Jake: Well, gabi seems to think that it would benefit both of us, right, because here. The plan is for gabi to be in charge of titan, and I’m back in charge of dimera.

Ben: But you don’t have enough votes to get victor on the board.

Jake: Unless we get johnny to vote our way, right, so johnny’s got his shares. He’s also got ej’s shares now.

Ben: Mm-hmm, and I heard ej’s doing a little bit at statesville.

Jake: Right, so johnny has what gabi needs, and he’s made it very clear what he wants in return.

Ben: So what’s gabi gonna do?

Jake: Well, she’s convinced that she can use that to make him do what we want.

Ben: How about you? Convinced?

Gabi: Uh-uh. Not in front of him.

Johnny: Well, there’s no pictures upstairs.

Gabi: I thought you were smart enough to play the long game.

Johnny: I’ll play any game you want.

Gabi: Come on, just stop it. I don’t like to be pressured into doing things I don’t want to do.

Johnny: Is that really the case though? ‘Cause it kind of feels like you’re keeping you from doing things that you do want to do.

Gabi: I told you, jake and I, we are exclusive.

Johnny: Why? ‘Cause I was raised by my grandfather and my father to take over dimera enterprises. Jake was raised to be a grease monkey. He’s dead weight, you know it.

Gabi: And what does that make me?

Johnny: Well, what you lack in pedigree you make up for with brains, drive. What do you and I need jake for? For rob, it took years to find out

Jake: Gabi’s over at the dimera house talking with johnny right now.

Ben: Alone?

Jake: Yeah, he keeps calling her over there to talk business.

Ben: Without you?

Jake: I don’t like this plan of hers.

Ben: I wouldn’t like it either, brother.

Jake: You know, gabi and I, we worked so hard, together, to get everything we have, but this plan of hers? I don’t trust johnny dimera as far as I can throw a grand piano.

Ben: Hey, screw johnny. All that matters is that you can trust gabi, right?

Gabi: Jake’s not a poor relation. He has his own shares.

Johnny: Then leverage your many assets. Get him to turn ’em over to you.

Gabi: If you think this whole divide and conquer thing is gonna work–

Johnny: This whole scheme was jake’s idea, wasn’t it? See, he can’t stop obsessing about being booted out of a family he was never good enough to be a part of. He doesn’t care about titan. He probably doesn’t care about you.

Gabi: Don’t you dare say that.

Johnny: Come on. The guy has a singular goal of trying to worm his way back into dimera, so he can take a bite out of the apple. He’s using you to do that, and once he’s done, he’s not gonna need you anymore.

Gabi: You’re just too spoiled to understand what jake and I have, okay? We’re not entitled like you are. We know what it feels like to come from nothing, and we have a future. And he would never–

Johnny: I’m not the only one who wants to screw you. You better start watching your back.

Tripp: Sir, I would never push allie into marrying me.

Roman: I’m not saying that. No. You know how you said about seeing allie in the bar and how drunk she was? Well, allie, and johnny, and sydney, they were on their own way too soon because sami was devoting herself to ej. Now, johnny thought he wanted to get married, too, and you saw what he ended up doing to poor chanel.

Tripp: I’m not like johnny.

Roman: I know that. I’m just saying it’s never a good idea to rush into anything.

Tr: Lani? She’s your sister?

Chanel: My half-sister.

Tr: You had the same father?

Chanel: The same mother.

Tr: Paulina is lani’s mother. Huh, I had no idea.

Chanel: Yeah, I just found out myself.

Paulina: For the record, I had chanel years after we split with my husband george.

Tr: Is she your one and only?

Paulina: Yes, she is.

Allie: Excuse me, but what does this have to do with whether or not we do the movie?

Lani: I promised chanel that she could come over every night while eli is away. She’s gonna help me with jules and carver. Then we’ll watch tv, drink some wine, and just talk.

Paulina: It means so much to me that you want to be a real sister to chanel.

Lani: So you understand why I cannot go to miami with you.

Paulina: Well, you know, chanel, she’s doing a lot better. Right now, she’s fixing to give the devil his due. Young johnny dimera, oh, he is going to pay for all the pain and suffering that he caused her, and she knows I have her back.

Lani: I just can’t leave her here all alone.

Paulina: Then why leave her here?

Lani: What?

Paulina: I’ll go and talk to her. Get allie to run that bakery for a while. We’ll take her with us. You, me, and big mama, we’ll all see to chanel. Come on, what do you say?

Lani: I guess I can ask for the time off.

Paulina: So you’re going?

Lani: If I get the time.

Paulina: Oh! Oh, you don’t know how much this will mean to big mama.

Lani: I might be crazy. The last time I let you drag me down there, I almost got shot.

Paulina: Well, you’ll be safer there than you are here.

Lani: What does that mean?

Paulina: Well, you know big mama. She’ll get even if she doesn’t get what she wants. Look, you go, and you get yourself packed, and get the twins packed and everything, and then I’ll go tell chanel the plan. And then we’ll all be headed off to the airport. By the time we get back, ray coates will be gone, and lani never has to know anything about him.

Allie: Excuse me? Mr. Coates, I asked you a question.

Tr: I just misunderstood what your mother told me. That’s all. I have another appointment.

Allie: I just want to make sure you understand. You can sue us or whatever, but there’s no way that we’re doing that movie.

Tr: I’m sure we’ll be able to work something out.

Allie: Did that seem as weird to you as it seemed to me?

Chanel: Yeah. He was ready to sue us–

Allie: And then he just dropped it like a hot rock.

Chanel: Thanks for backing me up.

Allie: Dupree, you know I always will.

Tripp: Mr. Brady, I’m not your grandson.

Roman: Meaning I can’t tell you what to do?

Tripp: Meaning I would never treat allie the way johnny would treat chanel.

Roman: I know that. It’s just that, you know, allie already has a baby she didn’t ask for.

Tripp: That is working out, okay, she’s a fantastic mom.

Roman: Yes she is, but if she is not ready for marriage, you need to respect that.

Tripp: I will. Sir, I give you my word. I will never hurt allie in any way. And she’s learned to trust me, and she’s given me her heart, and I’ve trusted her with mine. I mean, isn’t that what love’s all about?

Jake: Yeah, yeah. Of course I trust gabi. I mean what we have goes way beyond this deal, but what I will say is sometimes gabi has a tendency to underestimate people, you know?

Ben: Yeah. Ciara says johnny’s a player. Gabi is way out of his league, brother, right?

Jake: Yeah. Still, man, something about johnny bugs me. You know, back when I ran with the mob, right, I could look a guy in the eye, and I could see that his evil, most of the time, came from weakness, right? Came from having a rough childhood like you and I had, and you know, a series of other bad breaks along the way, right? So they had to toughen up because they were afraid of losing what they had worked so freaking hard to get.

Ben: Mm-hmm.

Jake: But then there were the other guys. The guys who were just flat-out mean, evil, right? They would play like they had nothing to lose. Those were the guys that scared me, and I think johnny’s one of those guys.

Ben: He is a dimera.

Jake: Dude, so am I.

Ben: As long as you and gabi stick together, you’re gonna come out on top, all right?

Gabi: I trust jake. I believe in him.

Johnny: Well, I think, any day now, jake is gonna give you a good reason to question your trust in him.

Gabi: You’re just talking. You don’t know–

Johnny: I know you, gabriella, and I think you and I are at the beginning of a very exciting partnership. And as a sign of good faith, I promise to vote my shares and my father’s shares in favor of giving victor kiriakis a seat on the board.

Gabi: That is great. That is great!

Johnny: Who are you calling?

Gabi: Your uncle jake, of course–can you give that back to me?

Johnny: Why would you want to call jake?

Gabi: I don’t think right now is a good time to have your uncle questioning my loyalty to him, do you?

Johnny: No.

Gabi: Great, thank you. This thing is dead. I charged it this morning.

Johnny: Maybe it can’t hold a charge. Guess you’ll have to catch up with jake later.

Gabi: Yes. I guess I’ll do that after i share the news with maggie. You’re not gonna regret this, johnny, I promise.

Johnny: Oh, I know I won’t, but you and uncle jake on the other hand, different story. I guess I better go change. Oh, sometimes I love my life. Avoiding triggers, but can’t keep migraine attacks away?

Roman: Well, tripp, look. I can’t speak for allie’s parents, but for what it’s worth, you two have my blessing.

Tripp: It’s worth a lot, sir.

Roman: All right, you’re a good man, tripp johnson. The apple did not fall too far from the tree.

Allie: I thought you had to be at work early.

Tripp: Hey, well, I just remembered that I needed to ask your granddad if he had heard anything from dad or kayla. What are you doing here?

Allie: I’m just grabbing an early lunch.

Tripp: Oh, okay, well, I’ll see you at home tonight?

Allie: Yeah, I’ll see you. Bye. What was that all about?

Roman: Well, he told you. He wanted to talk about steve and kayla, so usual?

Allie: Sure.

Roman: Okay.

Chanel: Hi, mama.

Paulina: Oh. Oh, I see that smile. Oh, well, what’s that about?

Chanel: Me serving johnny with divorce papers. Going after his money.

Paulina: Yeah, that’s good. That’s real good. I need to talk to you about something.

Chanel: Wait until you try these butterscotch oatmeal cookies that I came up with. They are to die for.

Paulina: Oh, yeah, well, I’ll take a dozen of ’em. Then you pack ’em up for me, and then go pack a suitcase.

Chanel: Wait, what?

Paulina: I’m serious. You, me, your sister, your little niece and nephew, we are all getting out of town today.

[Knocking on door]

Lani: You back already? Mr. Coates. What are you doing here?

Jake: Thanks for listening, bro.

Ben: Of course, man. Of course. I hate what chad and ej did to you, brother. It’s not fair, and I really do hope you’re gonna end up getting back exactly what’s yours.

Jake: Hope so, man. Hey, at least I’m not going it alone though, you know?

Ben: Yeah.

Jake: I get to do this with somebody I love and care about. Gabi and me? We make a good team.

Ben: Yeah, you do. Take care, man.

Jake: You too. When I come back to help you fix the place up, I’m hanging that damn thing up right. Hell, it’s upside-down again.

[Tense music]

Johnny as jake: Gabi and i are very close to securing victor a seat on the dimera board. Gabi’s with johnny right now. She’s nailing down his votes.

Maggie: Ooh, victor will be very pleased to hear that.

Johnny as jake: And just one more thing, if you wouldn’t mind talking to victor about it. I would like a guarantee, in writing, that I will be elected ceo of dimera after we take over.

Maggie: Well, I will talk to him about that.

Johnny as jake: And now, let’s talk about titan.

Maggie: Yes, victor has very serious reservations about putting someone outside of the family in charge of his company. I’m afraid making gabi ceo of titan, it may be off the table. Is that a dealbreaker?

Gabi: It sure as hell is.

Johnny as jake: Absolutely not.

Julie: Who are you? And what are you doing in my house?

Craig: Nancy, we need to go someplace where I can talk privately.

Nancy: I have nothing to say to you–you know what, why don’t you just call your little floozy and ask her to pop open the champagne, because you have finally gotten rid of the old ball and chain?

Chloe: Dad, you said you’d tell her.

Craig: I tried to, but she dumped a bowl of clam chowder on my lap and stormed off before I could get it all out.

Nancy: Get all what out? My husband is cheating, my marriage is over–what else could there possibly be? Obviously you two know something I don’T. Now, which one of you is gonna tell me about it?

Kristen: I thought you might like some dessert. Would you like some peach pie?

Abigail: You can choke on your pie, kristen.

Kristen: [Laughs] Well, you don’t have to get snippy about it. I would let go if I were you.

Abigail: No. Not until you tell me what you did to my uncle steve and aunt kayla.

Kristen: What do you think I did to them? Earlier you were droning on about being a dimera. And how do dimeras eliminate problems?

Abigail: Oh my god. You killed them.

Ciara: Home? Baby, I know what our home looks like, and this is not our home.

Ben: Well, I should have said our new home. Because I’ve been looking at apartments for a while now, and this is the best one yet.

Ciara: You’ve been looking for an apartment without me?

Ben: Well, I wanted to surprise you. Looking at apartments can be stressful, and I think you’ve had enough of that going on already, so I narrowed it down to my top three favorites, and then I asked julie to come take a look at them, and we decided together that this is the best one.

Ciara: Yeah, but ben, I love our apartment.

Ben: But we got a baby coming.

Ben: Mm-hmm. So then maybe I can show you around a bit. Because in the words of our real estate agent, the second bedroom over here is crying out to be a nursery.

Chloe: Mom, please just calm down.

Nancy: I do not need to calm down! And I do not need to go back to our room and talk privately. Looks like you know what’s going on, and he knows what’s going on. And you know what, I dumped clam chowder in your father’s lap at the pub, so if salem is still salem, in about 20 minutes, the entire town is going to know… that you broke our marriage vows. Nancy: Just… just yesterday, craig, we were in that bed together, and I thought I was the happiest woman in the world. No, I was the happiest woman in the world. Because I didn’t know who you were or what you had done. I was just a happy, ignorant fool.

Ben: So, we could make the room that’s next to the nursery into a home office, if you decided that you wanted to work from home.

Ciara: Okay, but aren’t we jumping the gun a little bit here? I mean, why pay rent for a more expensive place before we even need it?

Ben: Because you are in your second trimester, and this baby is gonna be here before we know it. So, at least if we move in now, give us a little time, fix some things up, and we won’t be under so much pressure.

Ciara: I guess.

Ben: Hmm. But we do need to act fast, because we’re not the only ones interested in this place.

Ciara: Oh, okay.

Ben: Look at this place.

Ciara: What did you just tell me about “no pressure”?

Ben: Good point.

Ciara: Yeah.

Ben: I love this place. I do. But we are not moving in here unless you love it too. So what do you say?

Abigail: So you said. But where are they? What did you do to them? Because I found steve’s eye patch and their driver’s licenses stashed over there in that drawer, so they’ve got to be somewhere here on the island.

Johnny: Ooh, that means it’s malfunctioning. Now, I don’t mean to be an alarmist, but you want someone to look at that right away. I mean, imagine if it happened again in the middle of the night, say.

Julie: Suppose you’re right. But I really think I need to get that cross over to ben and ciara.

Johnny: Why don’t you let me take it over to them? I’d like to do something to get back in your good graces.

Steve: Can’t believe you’re here.

Kayla: I was so scared. What happened?

Steve: [Mutters] Kristen. She showed up at our hotel room in rome. She had a gun. She said you were fine, but I didn’t know what she’d done to you.

Kayla: I don’t even know what happened. I don’t even know where we are. She drugged me, I guess. I just woke up a few minutes ago.

Steve: So did I. Last thing I remember, I was trying to get the gun away from kristen, and she must have knocked me out and drugged me somehow. I-I-I woke up, I was in that trunk.

Kayla: What is this place?

Steve: Let’s see. There are supplies. There’s bottled water, flashlights, emergency kit. Some kind of an alarm on that wall over there. Here we go.

Kayla: Look at this. There’s lanterns and there’s-there’s hurricane safety pamphlets.

Steve: This must be some kind of storm shelter. I bet we’re on an island.

Kayla: I’ll bet you it’s not bali ha’I.

Abigail: You’re trying to scare me.

Kristen: No, abigail, I’m just giving you fair warning. It is a jungle out there. I love saying that, because it’s literally true. But you saw for yourself when you left before.

Abigail: Cameras?

Kristen: Well, yeah. I mean, I don’t want the servants to pinch the silver. Oh, wait, there are no servants. There’s no one out there to help you. See, we are on an island in the middle of an ocean. I mean, you can go out there and play robinson crusoe, make a raft, paddle away. But you’re not the first to try. See, most die in the jungle before they ever see the water. And the ones that do get that far, well, I mean, they just are dashed up on the rocks. You see, abigail, this really isn’t a beach of your dreams.

Craig: I can’t expect you to understand.

Nancy: I understand perfectly. You married me, craig, knowing you were attracted to men. I married you because I loved you. It never occurred to me to ask, “is there anything that you’re keeping from me, hon? Like you’re gay?”

Johnny: And I think that this baby is going to have one protective father.

So, turns out, on the very same day that you decided I needed a little sea air here, I told chad everything that you had done to kate, and mentioned you’d done the exact same thing to sarah. So, how long do you think it’ll be before he figures out that I didn’t just voluntarily leave him and my children?

Kristen: Oh, he’ll figure it out eventually.

Abigail: He will. He won’t stop until he finds me.

Kristen: Oh, well, this is finally property. He’s welcome at any time. So, abigail, darling, why don’t you just sit, relax, rest, and let me get you a drink.

Steve: I don’t know for sure. But I have a feeling we’re not alone on this island. We need to get out of this place and find out who else is here.

Ben: Whoa, wait a second.

[Eerie off-key notes]

Demon johnny: “Oh, just this.” [Scoffs] And they talk about the banality of evil.

Ciara: Oh, I am gonna have to call grandma julie first thing in the morning and thank her.

Ben: It was so nice of her.

Ciara: Yeah. And so like her. To want to bless our baby, bless us, bless our home, and keep us all safe.

Abigail: Come on, kristen, I know that sarah’s here. That’s what you meant when you said that this place is still serving its purpose. You stash all of your kidnapping victims here.

Kristen: Has anyone ever told you that you’re quite annoying? You’re like a mosquito with a press pass.

Abigail: Just tell me where sarah is. People back home are worried sick about her, especially xander.

Gwen: Where are you going?

Xander: [Sighs] Gwen rizczech.

Gwen: What are you doing?

Xander: Gwen, I know I don’t deserve a woman like you, someone so strong, and loyal, and so beautiful. But would you take pity on this poor, pathetic, completely naked scoundrel and grant me the honor of becoming my wife?

Abigail: Don’t you think it’s a little rude after everything that ava’s done for you to just not answer her call? Or maybe it’s not ava.

Abigail: Maybe it was the dimera pilot calling, asking for more money because he knows xander and i are onto him. Maybe he was calling to tell you just how much of victor’s money maggie is willing to pay to find out where he flew you and sarah.

Kristen: All right, you know what, abigail? You realize I do have a gun.

Abigail: How much time do you think you have, kristen? Wasn’t it also euripides who said, “do not use the same plot over, and over, and over, and over again. Folks are gonna catch on”?

Craig: Yeah, um, you know, can we maybe go somewhere else, some place just a little more private?

Nancy: Oh, no, honey, no. We told chloe that we were gonna meet her and brady here.

Roman: All right. Specials are on the left, but I’m sorry, we’re out of the cod.

Nancy: Wait, roman! It’s nancy and craig.

Craig: You don’t need to tell him that.

Nancy: Oh, roman. I hope you’re not still holding a grudge, are you?

Roman: Let’s just say I don’t feel real warm towards people who use my daughter like you two did just to get ahead at work.

Craig: Okay. Maybe we should go.

Nancy: No, no. Roman, we are sorry about that. But I do understand if you can’t let it go. My kids mean the world to me, too. How is carrie? Is she happy?

Roman: She and austin are very happy.

Nancy: I’m glad, and sami?

Roman: Sami’s good, too.

Nancy: Great, you know, as parents, we are only as happy as our unhappiest child. And well, we know how you feel. We’re here to support chloe too because, well, brady is trying to put her back together again. I mean, she has been through the wringer this year.

Roman: Yes, yes, she has.

Nancy: But brady and chloe are joining us for dessert a little later. We want her to have, like, a normal family life, like the first day of the rest of her life, and–I know that sounds dumb.

Roman: No, no, it doesn’T. I’m sure chloe will love it. So welcome back. And dessert’s on the house.

Nancy: Oh, thank you, roman. Wait, honey. Do you still have that fabulous clam chowder?

Roman: Of course we do.

Nancy: We’ll have two orders, please.

Roman: Okay, you got it.

Craig: Thanks.

Nancy: You know, craig, under that rough exterior, roman really is a sweet guy. I mean, in a weird sort of way, he kind of reminds me of you.

Craig: Really?

Nancy: Okay, honey, he’s not as handsome as you, but, you know, he’s sweet, but he’s tough, and he’s strong, and he shoots from the hip. But he’s still a sweet man. He loves his kids. He loves his family. And well, he’s a real man. You know what I mean? Like you. Life’s been hard enough.

Kate: So the dimera pilot said someone called sarah horton paid him to fly her and an enormous suitcase out of salem. And then last month, kristen somehow finds out that abigail and xander are searching for sarah, and she conjures up a sarah, fake sarah, so they’ll call off the hunt.

Chad: That was abigail’s theory.

Kate: I think it’s true because it sounds just like kristen. I mean, and there are parallels. I mean, it happened to me. She kidnapped me, she put on a kate mask, she breaks up with jake. And then if what abigail says is true, she kidnapped sarah, and she put on a sarah mask, and then she broke up with xander and then ends up at the airport with a body-sized suitcase.

Chad: God, I’m so stupid. I sat in this room, and I listened to abigail tell me what happened to you. And I just went and read the kids a story. I’m an idiot.

Kate: Stop, stop. Don’t beat yourself up.

Chad: Don’t beat myself up? Abigail told me she didn’t think the person that her, maggie, and xander talked to was sarah, that fake sarah went to the airport. I’m just like, “hey, don’t worry about it, let’s have dinner.” Like abigail’s gonna sit at home and do nothing when she thinks kristen kidnapped sarah. No, of course, she’s gonna go to the airport. Why didn’t I go with her?

Kate: Because the whole thing just sounds preposterous. That’s why. I mean, it happened to me, chad, and I still don’t believe it. All right? I’m sorry.

Chad: If kristen hurts abigail–

Kate: Don’t go there. Don’t even go there.

Chad: Where is she? And where the hell is sarah?

Sarah: I can’t read anymore. I’ve read so much, my eyes are gonna bleed. How many hours have I stared out that damn window at the damn ocean? I got to get home. I have to get back to the man I love.

Gwen: Yes. Of course, it’s about sarah. You’ve just spent the last bloody month trying to track her down, xander.

Xander: ‘Cause I was trying to make sure she was okay. And now I know she’s okay, and we can have our lives back.

Gwen: ‘Cause she dumped you again.

Xander: Hey, it doesn’t matter that she dumped me, just like it wouldn’t matter if she wanted me back. I love you, gwen. I want to be with you.

Gwen: Come on. How in god’s name do you actually expect me to believe that?

Xander: Because it’s the truth.

Kristen: Sweet, sweet abigail, hm? See, I don’t need to worry about how chad or brady are gonna feel about this because they’re not gonna know about this, huh? Now I want you to take some time, and I want you to reflect and ultimately absorb the fact that you don’t have any power. I am in absolute control. And you’re just gonna have to make peace with that. Try to eat something. Maybe it’s low blood sugar that’s making you so disagreeable.

[Soft music]

Brady: You overheard him on the phone?

Chloe: Yeah. About five minutes after my mom was going on about what an honest, loyal husband my father is.

Brady: Oh, god. Chlo, I’m so sorry. You shouldn’t have had to hear that.

Chloe: I just don’t know what this is gonna do to my mom.

Brady: Well, he’s not the first husband who has cheated on his wife. But I mean, this girlfriend, do you know who she is, or–

Chloe: It’s not a her, him.

Brady: Him?

Chloe: Yeah. My dad’s been cheating on my mom with a man.

Brady: Are you trying to tell me that your father is gay?

Nancy: Craig, I keep seeing people that I think I used to know.

Craig: Nancy, could you please focus? Just for a moment. I–there’s something I need to tell you.

Nancy: Okay. Are you all right?

Craig: Yes.

Roman: All right. There you go, two chowders. Enjoy.

Nancy: Craig, what is it? Are you sick? Is that what you’ve been hiding from me?

Craig: No, nancy, that’s not it.

Chloe: He said that he’s seeing another man. We didn’t exactly discuss the specifics of how he identifies.

Brady: Okay, right.

Chloe: Brady, he’s in so much pain. But he says he loves my mom, but then he also says–

Chloe: He says that he’s in love with this other guy. I don’t know. I mean, I get this sense that maybe he’s been in denial this entire time, but it just feels like it’s really new to him.

Brady: Yeah.

Chloe: But at the same time, I don’t really give a damn about his pain because of what this will do to my mom.

Brady: Yeah. It’s okay, I get it.

Chloe: It’s just–I told him he’s got to tell her the truth. She deserves to know the truth. Brady, I think it’s gonna be bad.

Nancy: I knew it! I knew it all the time.

Craig: Nancy, there’s something else I need to tell you.

Nancy: No, no, no, no. Just spare me the details. I don’t want to find out that it just happened, or that she completes you, or other load of crap.

Roman: Hey, hey, hey, hey. Can we keep our voices down?

Nancy: You mean me? You want me to keep my voice down because I’m the one being loud while he just sits there like the sleazy little wimp that he is!

Craig: Nancy, let’s go.

Nancy: I’m not going anywhere with you, you son of a bitch!

Craig: Oh!

Abigail: She probably poisoned the apple. That’s what witches do. What the hell did she give me? How the hell do I get out of here?

Kate: I don’t know. I don’t think that phone call proves that it wasn’t kristen in the mask. I mean, we know that she has the technology to be me, to be nicole, she can be joan of arc for all we know. I mean, certainly she could fake a phone call.

Chad: She said that gwen had entered as if on cue. Like the whole thing was staged.

Kate: Like an elaborate, nefarious scheme. Like you’re still here, my love. And gwen, gwen’s involved, too?

Chad: I remember something that abby had said to me. She said that gwen was there when she told her parents that she was looking for sarah, that gwen had freaked out. At the time, she thought that gwen was just trying to keep xander from going back to sarah. But… what if she knew that kristen had sarah and… no, that’s too much of a stretch.

Kate: No, I don’t think so. We both know that kristen is capable of coercing someone into helping her. Gwen, I mean, gwen would be open to temptation. She’d be open to blackmail.

Chad: Yeah, but I just don’t see any connection between gwen and kristen.

Kate: What? They’re exactly alike. I mean, they’re both amoral, vicious, vindictive.

Chad: Gwen’s–

Kate: Gwen’s what? Gwen’s changed? Do you realize how many times we’ve said that about kristen? I think abigail is close to the truth. Dangerously close to the truth.

[Soft music]

Xander: Say it again. Say, “no, we don’t love each other.” You can’t, can you? You and I have both kissed a lot of people we didn’t love. But that kiss was different, wasn’t it? Xander: Then what is it? Why are you behaving this way? What more do I have to do to prove to you that even if sarah horton walked through that door right now and begged to have me back, I would still choose you?

Chad: You know, one thing that we have to hold on to is that kristen is a dimera.

Kristen: Hmm, I thought you might like some dessert. Would you like some peach pie?

Abigail: You can choke on your pie, kristen.

Demon johnny: I know I’m not supposed to contact you directly, judge barnes, especially on the day of my father’s sentencing, but between you and me, I think you made the right decision. What he did completely traumatized my mother, and I’m glad you found him guilty. My hope is that you’ll put him behind bars for a very long time. Yes. Thank you for listening.

Chad: Who was this guy?

Johnny: His name’s tr coates. He’s a big power player in the industry. Not someone you want to cross.

Chad: Right. It sounds like he’s playing hardball.

Johnny: Yeah.

Lani: I’m lani price-grant.

TR: Price, so you’re–

Paulina: She’s my niece.

TR: Ah, yeah. I can see the resemblance. And these little munchkins are–

Gwen: Yeah, I just texted chad. I’ve still got him convinced that abigail is in boston. Ava, I know that he’s going to figure it out eventually. I’m just trying to buy us some time, so I can figure out what to do next. I didn’t exactly plan for her to see you in that sarah mask, did I? No, ava, I’m not blaming you. We’re just lucky that that pilot has agreed to deliver her to kristen. I have to go. Bye.

Xander: Hmm, well… I was out shopping for a gift. For you.

Xander: This is a bag. A bag that contains a box. A box that houses the gift I bought for you.

Lani: Actually, you were the aggressive one. I mean, why did you flip out on him like that, anyway?

Paulina: You gotta stand your ground with men like tr coates. I put him on blast. Any–any friend of johnny dimera is an enemy of mine.

Lani: I know you have your issues with johnny after what he did to chanel, but are you sure it’s not more than that?

Paulina: What else would there be?

Lani: I mean when tr asked who I was, you told him I was your niece. Why wouldn’t you want him to know I was your daughter?

Johnny: I don’t blame tr for wanting me to make the movie. It’s a great script, and I signed a contract.

Chad: Sure, but that was before the devil came back to salem.

Johnny: But he wasn’t here for that, and plus, he does really seem genuinely excited about the movie. He even said he sees it as a trilogy.

Chad: Whoa, wait. He wants to make three movies about marlena? What are the sequels gonna be about?

Johnny: Well, part two would be about my grandmother’s most recent possession.

Chad: And the third?

Johnny: We’ll figure something out.

Chad: Look, I don’T… I don’t think this is a great idea, but I am happy for you and your career.

Johnny: Thank you. That’s nice of you to say.

Chad: It sounds like you’re not gonna have a whole lot of time for dimera going forward. If you want, I could talk to our lawyers and see about them transferring yours and your father’s shares to me.

Johnny: That won’t be necessary. I still plan to be involved with dimera enterprises.

Chad: You sure? Making a movie is a– it’s a lot of work, you know? And I know you want to give it your full attention.

Johnny: I can do both.

Chad: This is your big break, johnny. I don’t want you to leave anything on the field.

Johnny: I promise you I can handle being a business mogul and a movie mogul at the same time.

Chad: Very ambitious of you.

Belle: How are you holding up?

Paulina: That was among family. This man, he’s a complete stranger.

Paulina: So he doesn’t need to know our business.

Lani: I don’t see what difference it would make. I mean it’s not like we’re hiding anything anymore.

Paulina: Well, like I said, this person, tr? Well, he’s doing this movie with johnny, and with my help, chanel, she’s planning on taking her soon-to-be-ex to the cleaner’S.

Lani: What does the divorce have anything to do with tr?

Paulina: How do you think he’s gonna feel with chanel making half the movie profits? Things, they get sour. Tr, he blames me and chanel, then he comes after us.

Lani: For what exactly?

Paulina: [Stammering] It doesn’t matter. This man–men like that– they they destroy everything they touch. Trust me. It’s just better that he doesn’t know that I have another daughter.

Lani: I don’t know. It feels like a stretch.

Paulina: I’m being cautious. I’ll admit it.

Lani: Are you being cautious, or are you just not telling me the whole story?

Gwen: You don’t have to apologize.

Xander: Yes, I do. I was incredibly unfair. You had to give up spending the holidays in london, just so I could run around playing detective.

Gwen: You thought sarah was in danger. I know that she was very important to you and you were worried about her.

Xander: Yeah, but she wasn’t in danger. She just really, truly wanted to get away from me, and I guess I… still didn’t want to accept that.

Gwen: I know how hard it is to realize when someone you really care about doesn’t feel the same way.

Xander: I didn’t realize how much she hated me until I saw her again. You should have been there.

Xander: Well, maggie cares about you deeply. You lied to her about where you were.

Sarah: I wanted to be left alone and I was afraid that she would tell you where I was. I was trying to avoid this.

Xander: Oh, so you hate me now.

Sarah: Yes. You put another woman’s baby in my arms and told me that it was mine. You let me fall in love with her, and then you watched as she was taken away from me. How could I not hate you?

Xander: I mean you would not believe how angry she was.

Gwen: I can only imagine.

Kristen: It’s an old dimera property on a deserted island. Hasn’t been kept up as well as it should, but it does serve its purpose.

Kristen: Are you sure? After your flight, I would assume you’d be dehydrated.

Abigail: Flight?

Kristen: Mm-hmm. And this will flush out all the sedatives that you were given.

Abigail: I’m getting the hell out of here.

Kristen: Did you not hear the part about being on a deserted island? Where the hell are you gonna go, abigail?

Abigail: Give it a shot, anyway.

Kristen: Oh, all right. Well, if I can’t make you stay, maybe this will, hmm?

Johnny: So aunt abigail’s still game to play my grandma, right? I know she’s busy with the newspaper.

Chad: I don’t know. You’ll have to ask her when she gets back to town.

Chad: I don’t know if I’d call it fun, but I’m sure abby’s up for the challenge.

Johnny: He kidnapped my mother, held her prisoner for months. Whatever happens, he did to himself.

Johnny: Look, I know I’m supposed to feel sympathetic, because we share the same dna, but honestly, what I feel is relief. Justice was served. Now we can all move on.

Kristen: [Chuckles] I mean, if I have to.

Abigail: Did you put her up to it? ‘Cause I know the two of you are friends.

Kristen: Mm-hmm. Well, I mean it’s true, we go way back. But what happened at the airfield when you figured all this out?

Abigail: Well, I was about to call rafe, only someone came up, hit me from behind, and I think I know who it was.

Xander: I know you said you forgive me, but I hope you really do.

Gwen: [Sighs] For acting like an insecure child, doubting you, doubting what we have together.

Gwen: I do. I– I completely overreacted. You see, I–I– I saw you obsessing about sarah, and I just–I panicked. The truth is, xander, you– you’re all I’ve got. Abigail: You mean I was getting too close to the truth about what actually happened to sarah.

Abigail: Sarah didn’t just decide to leave salem on her own last year. You did something to her, didn’t you?

Gwen: Why is it every time I’m with you, everything just… feels so much better? Like all my problems just sort of float away.

Xander: Well, I hope I can always do that for you. I hope–

Gwen: What? What? You seem like you want to tell me something. What is it?

Xander: Look, I know this isn’t the ideal time to bring up her name again, but I do have one last thing I want to say about sarah.

Gwen: Okay.

Xander: Before she left, she gave me some really good advice. She told me to stop obsessing about our breakup, get on with my life, focus on you.

Xander: Yes, she did, so that’s what I’m gonna do from now on. No more looking back. I only want to look to the future, and my future is with you.

Gwen: You really mean that?

Xander: I know exactly how to prove it. For rob, it took years to find out

Nancy: This is wonderful.

Brady: Well, the pub always has the best food.

Nancy: It’s true. That’s not what I meant. Yesterday. Yesterday, brady, I would have been absolutely convinced that, well, craig was lying to me about that being a work call. But today, today I’m perfectly calm because I know that my–my husband, my loving, wonderful husband, has gone out of his way to show me how much he loves me. And even though I came to salem for being terribly upset, then needing my daughter to talk me off the ledge, I’m really happy to be here, to be here with both of you.

Brady: It was wonderful to spend time with you and craig.

Nancy: Even though we sort of surprised you and disrupted your entire lives.

Brady: No, you didn’T. No disruption at all.

Nancy: You know, as happy as I am, there’s only one thing that would make me happier.

Brady: What would that be?

Nancy: Getting you and chloe back together again.

Rafe: Yeah. The thing is, I’m not out there in the street making collars. I’m usually here, I’m behind the desk. So for these guys to come out of the woodwork saying what they said. It doesn’t look good.

Shawn: Yeah. Well, it’s obvious you’re being framed. I mean, I–I spent hours trying to–to find a connection between these losers, but I know I’ve got nothing. Except maybe…

Rafe: What?

Shawn: The last time we spoke, you said that you think that ava might be behind this. You still think that she’s the one that set you up?

Abe: At least things are better between you and paulina, aren’t they? I mean, you saved her life. Those are her words.

Lani: She is so dramatic. But, yes. I mean, I will probably always have my guard up with paulina, but we are on better terms. And I do hope that happens for you, too, someday.

Abe: I-I don’t think that’s possible. Not when she wants me to… do something I can’t do for her.

Lani: What do you mean?

Abe: Well, I-I don’t– I don’t think I’d ever be able to trust her again, especially after letting me think that I was your real father. And she always knew otherwise.

Tr: You got some fight in you now, I see.

Chloe: I brought your coat. Mom thought you’d be cold. But you sounded like you were pretty hot to me. For rob, it took years to find out

Brady: Chloe and I already told you, we’re just friends.

Nancy: Uh-huh.

Brady: Mm-hmm.

Nancy: Brady, ever since the two of you were singing duets in the park way back when, I’ve known that you are the only man for my daughter.

Brady: Well, she didn’t know that, obviously.

Nancy: And it’s not obvious to me. And in my opinion, the only reason that she went back to philip this time was because you were entangled with kristen dimera.

Brady: Nancy, she and philip were together when he disappeared. And we don’t know if he’s–he’s alive or dead, so there is no way that I can pursue something with chloe right now.

Nancy: But you do have feelings for her?

Brady: Yes, I do.

Nancy: So brady, then you’re–you’re basically in limbo.

Brady: That’s a good way of putting it.

Nancy: But what–but what if we never find out what happened to philip? Are you okay wallowing in limbo forever?

Brady: That might be the way it has to be, nancy, yeah.

Nancy: No, no, it’s not. Not the way I see it.

Craig: I don’t know what you’re talking about, chloe.

Chloe: Come on, dad. I just heard you. “Baby, I miss you”? I hope you don’t talk that way to your co-workers, or someone’s going to slap you with a sexual harassment suit.

Chloe: It’s exactly what I think. And mom’s “ridiculous meltdown” when she first came to salem makes total sense. You lied to her, and you lied to me. You are cheating on her, aren’t you?

Craig: Yeah. Yeah, I am.

[Melancholy music]

Rafe: Like I said, I’ve got no proof that ava’s behind this. It’s just my gut. And what happened with duke?

Shawn: The teddy bear that got the–

Rafe: Yeah. That’s right. First, that happens. And then right after that, these guys come forward, and here I am.

Shawn: Yeah. Well, it wouldn’t be difficult for ava to orchestrate a frame-up, you know, given her mob ties.

Rafe: Well, exactly. Yeah. I’m right there with you. Well, she was just so damn proud of leaving her old life behind.

Shawn: And what about the dead mobster you found on your kitchen floor not that long ago? I mean, that shows that her life isn’t that far behind her, but I still don’t get motive. Or you mentioned that ava’s got an issue with yours and nicole’s friendship, but you also mentioned that you and ava have been solid for months.

Rafe: Yeah. That’s not exactly true.

Ava: Nicole, please, come–come on in.

Nicole: Thanks. So you were thinking about me, huh? Why?

Ava: Well, the eggplant parm. You know, I should’ve sent you home with some last night, but I was just too upset to even think straight after rafe was arrested.

Nicole: Well, it is safe to say that neither one of us had an appetite after that.

Ava: My stomach’s just– it’s full of knots. Anyway, I’m–I’m surprised to see you back here so soon. What’s up?

Nicole: Don’t you think you’re being a little paranoid here thinking that ava is setting you up? I came to check on you. How are you doing?

Ava: You know, you really are the sweetest. You–you–you are–you are–you are the best friend. Well, you know, I mean, I couldn’t really sleep a wink last night, right? I just–I kept thinking about what’s going to happen if rafe is convicted and he ends up in prison. It was enough to keep me up all night.

Nicole: Well, I have complete faith that that’s not going to happen because rafe is innocent. And you know that better than anyone, don’t you?

Lani: Please. When you say things like that–

Abe: Like what?

Lani: That paulina let you think that you were my “real father.” You are my “real father” in every way that matters.

Abe: I should’ve chosen my words more carefully. What I meant was that you have a biological father out there. And ever since you found out, I’ve barely heard you mention him. Look, lani, I understand, and believe me, I appreciate that you think that I would be threatened by you seeking out information on him, but you are connected biologically. And I would think that you would be somewhat curious about him.

Tr: I have business here in salem.

Paulina: What kind of business would that be? Waste management?

Tr: Actually, I’m a movie producer now.

Paulina: Movie producer? I can only imagine what kind of movies you make.

Tr: It’s all totally legit.

Paulina: You don’t even know the meaning of that word.

Tr: But apparently, I have a talent knowing what the public likes. And one of the filmmakers I’m working with just happens to live right here in town. He’s a young man from a fine, upstanding family. Perhaps you’ve heard of him. Johnny dimera?

Paulina: Johnny– johnny dimera? That’s the son of a bitch that broke my daughter’s heart.

Tr: You have a daughter? Life’s been hard enough.

Tr: I had no idea you had children, paulina.

Paulina: Well, my family is–is none of your damn business. My daughter has nothing to do with you.

Tr: I didn’t say she did.

Paulina: For the record, I had–I had chanel years after we split, with my husband george.

Tr: Is she your one and only?

Paulina: Yes, she is.

Tr: Well, she is a very lucky young woman to have a woman such as yourself for her mama. And george is a very lucky man.

Shawn: So you and nicole slept together. But ava doesn’t know about this, right?

Rafe: Well, I don’t think so. And ava, she’s–she’s been so sweet and loving and extra thoughtful, really, and not just to me. To nicole too. She’s always inviting her over to dinner and to just hang out. But I have seen this act before.

Shawn: I don’t follow.

Rafe: A few months back, gabi and ava were at each other’s throats, and I mean bad, right? And then all of a sudden, out of nowhere, ava is super sweet. I tell you, it turns out that that was one hell of an act, because while she was smiling to gabi’s face, she was stabbing her in the back. She was trying to screw her out of gabi chic.

Shawn: Okay, so you– so you think that maybe ava does know about you and nicole.

Rafe: And that destroying my career is her revenge.

Ava: What is that supposed to mean? That I would “know better than anyone” that rafe is innocent?

Nicole: Well, because you’re the closest person to him. You know what a great guy he is, how honest he is, how seriously he takes his work.

Ava: Yeah. Rafe is nothing if not honest.

Nicole: So then you know he’s being set up.

Ava: I very much want to believe that.

Nicole: Why wouldn’t you?

Ava: Well, for one thing, the police would not arrest one of their own–the commissioner, nonetheless– without a mountain of evidence.

Nicole: But it’s fake, ava. And I’m sure that’s something else you know.

Ava: What I know is that when I needed rafe to believe in my innocence, he didn’T. So why would i automatically believe in his?

Nancy: Brady, I’ve seen the way chloe looks at you. She loves you too. Now all I have to do is convince her to admit that to herself.

Brady: Nancy, it’s sweet of you to want to try to help, but I-I think chloe and i should handle this on our own.

Nancy: Brady black, do you want to be with my daughter or not?

Chloe: You stood in my office and you swore to mom that she’s the only woman for you.

Craig: She is, chloe.

Chloe: How can you possibly say that when you just admitted to having an affair? Who is she? Do I–do I know her? Does mom know her?

Craig: There is no other woman.

Chloe: Damn it, dad, just tell me the truth.

Craig: I am.

Chloe: You’re not making any sense. You just admitted to cheating on mom, but you deny there’s another woman–

Craig: Because it’s a man, chloe. I’m cheating on your mom with a man.

Brady: Look, nancy, it’s not that simple.

Nancy: Of course it is. You love chloe; she loves you. Now, you just have to man up and put it out there.

Brady: You know, sometimes “manning up” means taking a little step back.

Nancy: You know, that kind of thinking is going to get us absolutely nowhere. Now, are you going to let me help you make this happen or not?

Brady: Well, it’s going to be a little hard considering you and craig have to leave today.

Nancy: Nope.

Brady: Nope?

Nancy: Nope. I’m going to stay right here until I make sure that you and chloe are on the road to happily ever after, just like craig and me.

Chloe: A man? You’re–you’re sleeping with a man? But you–you and mom have been married for so long. I just–I don’t–I don’t understand.

Craig: I don’t either, chloe. Oh honey, come here. I’m sorry. I-I didn’t want you to find out this way.

Chloe: Well, anyway. You don’t want me to find out any way, obviously. I mean, my–my god, dad. I knew that you and mom had problems, but all couples do from time to time, right? I guess I always just thought that maybe mom was just a little bit crazier about you than you were about her. And I just sort of assumed it’s because she’s a more demonstrative person than you are, but… dad, are you–are you trying to tell me that you’re gay?

Lani: I know everything that I need to know about paulina’s ex. Apparently, he was abusive, controlling, cruel. So yeah, I did wonder about who my father was when I was growing up. But now that I know the truth, I have zero interest in meeting him.

Abe: Well, you might have other relatives out there you’d like to know.

Lani: Zero interest in meeting them, if they even exist. Look, I’m convinced that biology is overrated. You are the father that I have always dreamed of when I was a little girl. So why would I want to have anyone else as a dad when I have you?

[Warm music]

Paulina: Don’t you try to sweet talk me. That might have worked when I was an innocent young girl–

Tr: Paulina, you were never an innocent girl. But I didn’t mean to be inappropriate. I know you’re taken.

Paulina: A woman is never “taken,” ray. You know what? That is not a concept I expect you to understand.

Tr: Again, I didn’t mean to offend. Is he with you? Your husband?

Paulina: My george is dead, god rest his soul.

Tr: Oh, I didn’t realize. My condolences, paulina.

Paulina: I’d rather be in a grave right beside him than anywhere near you.

Tr: Look, I don’t blame you for feeling that way. The way I treated you, it–it was unforgivable. And I’m truly sorry.

Paulina: You’re what?

Tr: You heard me. But I don’t expect you to forgive me. And I know this might just sound like words to you, but I’m not that man anymore.

Paulina: So you’re trying to tell me you’ve changed? You got the lord, and you got sober?

Tr: Both.

Paulina: Well, it’s going to take more than a miracle for that. A man like you doesn’t change, ray coates. And never will.

Brady: Look, nancy. I appreciate your enthusiasm. I really do, but I mean, you have to get back to new york, right?

Nancy: For what? Parker’s in boarding school, joy’s in grad school–

Brady: What about craig’s job?

Nancy: Well, he’s been in so many medical conventions. He’s got about a bazillion days of vacation. So, oh, it would be so fun to be able to stay here and visit with my girl. I mean, we could–we could do things like we used to. Get our nails done. Go shopping. It would be so much fun. Oh, please, brady. Come on. I can’t wait to see her face when I tell her.

Brady: Me neither.

Nancy: Oh. Though it’s taken an awful long time for her to get craig his jacket. I wonder what could be keeping them.

Craig: Chloe, I–I love your mother very much, very much. I had two beautiful children with her.

Chloe: I–I’m aware of that. You didn’t respond to my question.

Craig: If I’m attracted to men. Well, yes, it seems that I am. If that makes me gay, then I’m gay.

Chloe: Okay. Well, have you had these feelings forever, and just never acted on them, or what?

Craig: I don’t know. I just–I met this guy. We had great chemistry together. Both of us.

Chloe: Okay. I don’t want to hear.

Craig: Chloe, you have to believe me. I never–I never meant to hurt your mom.

Chloe: Well–well… well, then, you need to call this guy back, whoever he is, and tell him that you’re not rushing back to see him. You have to end this, dad.

Craig: I can’T.

Chloe: Why not?

Craig: Because I’m in love with him.

Rafe: Truth is, I fell into this relationship with ava, and then I convinced myself that it was real. But the whole damn time, I’ve been thinking about nicole.

Shawn: All right. So why didn’t you break it off with ava a long time ago?

Rafe: You know, nicole, she–she didn’t want a rebound relationship after what happened with eric. And then she started dating ej. I was living with ava, you know. I was living with her. She was–she was making me home-cooked meals, and she was being so sweet, and I didn’t want to hurt her. Then I–I just kept telling myself what we had was real.

Shawn: I understand. So now that nicole and ej are over…

Rafe: I realized that I want to be with nicole, that I’ve always wanted to be with nicole, and… I told nicole that I was going to tell ava, that I was going to break things off with her, but I didn’t get the chance because that’s when you showed up and arrested me.

Shawn: Well, I’m sorry for my characteristically lousy timing.

Rafe: It’s not your fault.

Shawn: So what are you going to do now?

Nicole: What do you mean innocence? What did you do?

Ava: Well, I was innocent. Which means I didn’t do anything, boy, but did rafe think that I was guilty as hell.

Nicole: What are you talking about?

Ava: Your precious plushie. Rafe was convicted that I went into your office and chopped its head off. Can you believe that? I mean, what possible reason would I have to go and do something like that to my best friend? Or the man that I love. Who wouldn’t hurt me any more than I would hurt them.

[Eerie music]

Shawn: Right. Well, give me orders. I mean, you’re still my boss. What’d you need?

Rafe: [Laughs] Yeah, right. Not for long. No, I can’t imagine abe’s gonna leave me in this position, at least until I clear my name.

Shawn: And I’m going to do my best to make sure that that happens. So do you want me to–you want me to dive deep into–into ava’s priors and, you know, figure out the link between these clowns that are accusing you and her?

Rafe: Oh, I still do think that’s the best way to get to the bottom of this. But be careful.

Shawn: Yeah. Always.

Rafe: Shawn, I’m serious. I’m damn serious. I mean, if ava is using her connections–her mob connections, to make this all happen, there’s no telling what she’ll do.

Nicole: Of course I would never hurt you, and neither would rafe.

Ava: No? I did wonder there for a while.

Nicole: Wonder what?

Ava: About the two of you. And sharing custody of that silly little bear. And I will admit, I–I was a little jealous at first. And the old me might’ve gone in there and chopped the poor guy’s head off. Hell, the old me would have aimed for some other body part if he’d have been anatomically correct. The old me. You know, the one who sabotaged steve’s plane and kidnapped kayla. Might have thought about framing rafe. Hell… I may have even thought about how good it would feel to bring him down. The old me might’ve thought once I can’t have him when he’s rotting in prison, then neither can you. You have to admit, it would’ve been perfect revenge.

Nicole: Yeah, it would have been.

Ava: But, of course, I am not the old me. I’m the new and improved ava vitali. Yes, I am perfectly sane. I am a law-abiding citizen who would never believe that her best friend and the man she loves would go behind her back and hook up.

Nicole: Of course not. Listen, I have to go. But please tell rafe I said hi. How’s he doing?

Ava: I have no idea. I mean, I–of course, I would love to see him, but I just think that it’s probably best if stay away right now because I wouldn’t want my… past connections to make anything worse for him. You know what I mean.

Nicole: I think I know exactly what you mean.

Abe: Mmm. Hey, can I help?

Lani: This? One of the perks of being a mom. I am glad I’m not on duty today. The idea of melinda trask on one of her self-serving crusades and had rafe arrested for charges that everyone know are bogus? If I saw the woman, I’m afraid of what I might say to her.

Abe: You know, I completely believe that rafe is innocent. But until he’s exonerated, I still have to find someone to run the department. I don’t suppose you’d be interested.

Lani: Thanks, but I’ve got my hands full.

Abe: Yes. Indeed you do. You know what? I–I’ve got to get down to the pd.

Lani: I’m sorry carver and jules stayed asleep through your visit. But now I just hope that they will stay asleep through me getting them into the stroller.

Abe: Well, good luck with that and I’ll make sure I come see them when they’re awake.

Lani: Come back anytime you want, dad.

Abe: You know, it means a lot you still call me that.

Lani: Well, that is what you are to me, dad, always.

Abe: Aww.

Tr: I understand your doubts, paulina. But I bet I can prove to you that I’ve changed.

Paulina: I seriously doubt that. And I–honestly, I don’t give a damn.

Tr: At least let me take you out to dinner. I mean, for old time’s sake. I mean, I know that I can’t begin to make things up to you. But at least let me help you see that we were happy in the beginning–

Paulina: I don’t want to have dinner with you, ray. I don’t want to have another conversation with you. Now just–just–just get the hell out of my way and get out of dodge.

Nancy: You know, I better take chloe her coat. She is probably freezing out there.

Brady: Do you want me to come with you?

Nancy: Oh no, hon. I am sure everything’s okay. I just bet you anything that they went to the cart in the square to get a hot chocolate. Craig cannot resist temptation.

Chloe: So you’re in love with some guy you just met?

Craig: It’s been a few months.

Chloe: And it’s love.

Craig: I’ve never felt this way before, chloe.

Chloe: But you–you said you–you love mom. Are you still in love with her?

Craig: I never meant to hurt her.

Chloe: Are you still in love with her? Oh, my god. Oh my god, dad. Wow. So you’re–you’re not willing to break off things with this man?

Craig: I won’T. I can’T.

Chloe: Okay, well then at least respect mom enough to tell her the truth.

Shawn: All right, I’m on it, rafe. I’ll report back to you as soon as I know anything.

Rafe: Hey, thanks, man. I owe you.

Shawn: Listen, we’re going to get you out of here.

Rafe: Yeah.

Nicole: Hi.

Rafe: Nicole.

Nicole: I don’t suppose I could talk to rafe.

Shawn: No. Perfect timing. I will leave the two of you alone.

Nicole: Thanks.

Abe: Oh, hey, shawn. How’s rafe doing?

Shawn: About as well as expected. I’m doing my best to try to, you know, keep him out of population. Hoping he’s out from under these charges soon.

Abe: You and me both. But until these charges go away, I need to find someone to step in as acting commissioner. Now, with eli out of town, would you be willing to take on the most thankless job in salem?

Shawn: Do I have a choice?

Abe: Well, you know, if you’re worried about rafe’s feelings, I think he would be grateful to know that the department’s in the hands of someone he trusts.

Shawn: You know, I’ll do it. But when you talk to rafe, I want you to tell him that I can’t wait for him to have his job back.

Nicole: You look pale.

Rafe: It’s only been one night. I’m fine.

Nicole: Well, if it’s any consolation, I don’t think you’ll be in here much longer. I went to see ava this morning–

Rafe: Well, you didn’t say anything to her, did you?

Nicole: No. No, of course not. I played it cool. And so did she. And she didn’t admit to anything, not in so many words, but she didn’t leave a doubt in my mind that she is guilty as hell.

Ava: You’re lucky I didn’t chop off your unmentionables, rafe. Maybe someone will take care of that for me when you’re in statesville.

Chloe: I mean it, dad. You have to tell mom that you’re in love with someone else.

Nancy: There you two are. Is everything okay?

Craig: Yeah. Everything is fine. Everything.

Chloe: Yeah. Mom, dad has something he needs to tell you.

Nancy: Oh.

Craig: Nancy, the phone call.

Nancy: No. No, no. I hope they didn’t call you to ask you to come home.

Craig: Why not?

Nancy: Because we’re staying in salem.

Paulina: Why are you still standing here?

Tr: Well, last time I checked, you didn’t own this town. Although someday you might, knowing you. But in the meantime, I still have business with johnny dimera, and I’m not going anywhere until it’s settled.

Paulina: Well–well, fine. Fine. But you–you–you stay out of my way. And if you go anywhere near my family, I swear– I swear I’ll–

Nancy: Have you been awake long, craig?

Craig: No. Just a few minutes.

Nancy: Craig, you were so sweet and loving last night. I–I’ve missed that.

Craig: I missed it too.

Nancy: I’ve missed you. And this.

Johnny as the devil: My, my. You’re a big one, aren’t you?

[Foil whips] It’s all about seizing the offensive and of course, thrust.

[Eerie music]

[Line ringing]

[Voicemail beeps]

Johnny: Gabriella, it’s johnny. I was just about to do a little fencing. Why don’t you blow off my boring old uncle jake and stop by the mansion? I’ll even let you play with my foil, if you ask nice.

[Doorbell rings] Guess she was already on her way.

Paulina: Do I need to say it again? Johnny dimera ripped out my little girl’s heart, so if he wants a divorce so damn bad then I want that nasty little piece of work drained of every trust fund cent he has. Now, are you lawyer enough for this job? Do I need to find someone else?

[Doorbell rings] Call you back. Speak of the devil.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

Marlena: I hope you’ll accept these as a small peace offering.

Paulina: You really think waving a bouquet in my face is the wisest choice after what you did?

Marlena: Yeah. I’m so sorry for what happened at your wedding. I-I-I just–I wasn’t myself and-and I-I can’t tell you how terribly sorry I am for what I did.

Paulina: So that exorcism, it really took?

Marlena: Yeah, it did.

Paulina: That’s what they thought after the first one.

Marlena: But I’m whole now. I–I’m really whole, and I’m– I’m just so terribly sorry for what I’ve put you through. Paulina, may I come in?

Paulina: You can’t blame me for being cautious. When you were breaking bad as a beelzebub, you– you gave me a look that could kill, threatened my life, then blew it to hell.

Johnny: That’s the good thing about playing with bad girls. They never make you wait. W-what the hell are you doing here? For rob, it took years to find out

Nancy: What’s wrong?

Craig: Nothing. You wore me out last night. I’m tired.

Nancy: Oh, I-I understand. It’s okay. It’s just that… I love having you close to me again and feeling that you– I love you, craig wesley.

Craig: I love you, nancy.

Allie: Hey, hey. Where do you think you’re going?

Tripp: Oh, I’m sorry. I was trying not to wake you. I guess I’m losing my touch.

Allie: You’re definitely not losing your touch. But you used to be so much better at sneaking out at all hours of the night.

Tripp: You sound like I’m sneaking around.

Allie: Um, well, those days are behind us because you’re no longer a med student with crazy-ass hours.

Tripp: Yes, I do not miss that.

Allie: I know it’s been official for a couple of weeks, but we never got to celebrate. So…

Tripp: What?

Allie: Congratulations, dr. Johnson.

Abe: Hello, chanel.

Chanel: Hi.

Abe: Oh, you know, I-I was just on my way to your bakery. Get some almond croissants. I hear–I hear they’re out of this world.

Chanel: They are very popular.

Abe: I’m sure. Well, you take care, okay?

Chanel: Abe? I’m really glad I ran into you. I know you’re angry with me for ruining your wedding to my mom and I wanna apologize.

Marlena: I heard what happened at your wedding. And as a mother, I can’t imagine how much it hurt to have your daughter speak to you that way.

Paulina: The way my secret came out at my wedding was on that horned fool, but keeping the truth from abe and lying about it, that is on me. No doubt, oh, the devil– devil did me wrong, but I was the one who lost my mr. Right.

Johnny: Uh, mr. Coates, I’m-I’m-I’m sorry. Please, come in. It’s just that you are the last person I expected to see in salem.

Tr: Call me tr. Mr. Coates was my father. Nice place you have here.

Johnny: Thanks…tr. I-I like to call it “the house that nonno built.”

Tr: And nonno would be?

Johnny: My late grandfather. He was one of a kind.

Tr: Hmm, god rest his soul.

Johnny: I don’t think that he and god were on very good terms.

Tr: I’m more concerned about our terms, johnny.

Johnny: Our terms?

Tr: You and I had a deal and I’m here to see that you keep your end of our bargain. Because no matter how interesting your nonno might be, the only family lore I’m interested in is, “possessed: The marlena evans story.”

Tr: These last months, I was on location down under. It was summer and it was hotter than hades. And I was off the grid and unreachable. Hmm. So you can imagine my surprise when I got back to civilization, and one of my assistants told me that you left a message that you were shelving the film.

Johnny: I can explain–

Tr: No, I don’t want your explanation. I want my movie.

Johnny: And I understand that, but you see the thing is I kinda promised my grandmother that I wouldn’t tell the story about what happened with her and the devil.

Marlena: Paulina, I am so sorry that you lost abe. I-I saw the– I saw the love between you. The strength of it. Do you suppose that in time, the two of you could hope to find your way back together?

Paulina: I opened up to you once before about my love life and now I’m a very single lady.

Marlena: Again, I’m sorry. I will never forgive myself for the– the way that I betrayed your confidence.

Paulina: Well, it wasn’t you, was it? But I will say this, I know that man still loves me seven ways to sunday and I go to bed every night, I wake up every morning, hoping he’ll remember that, but he has made it crystal clear he’ll never trust me again.

Abe: Look, what happened with your mother and me, it’s not your fault. All you did was tell the truth, which is something paulina should’ve done a long time ago.

Chanel: Maybe, but it was her truth to tell, not mine.

Abe: You had no choice in the matter.

Chanel: Even if the devil made me do it, I saw how happy you and mama both were that day. And I see how unhappy you both are now. And well–

Abe: Well what?

Chanel: I think all that bad karma came back around and bit me.

Abe: What do you mean?

Chanel: Don’t tell me you haven’t heard that my husband dumped me out of the blue? That my marriage crashed and burned.

Tripp: A caduceus. Wow, this is awesome.

Allie: Yeah, I thought– I don’t know–I thought maybe you could pin it to your jacket since it’s an ancient symbol of medicine.

Tripp: Actually, it’s– it’s not.

Allie: What do you mean?

Tripp: Well, even though the caduceus has come to be the symbol of medicine in modern times, the ancient symbol is actually the rod of asclepius. Not sure if I’m pronouncing that right but it’s not important.

Allie: Hey, sure it is.

Tripp: No, no, it’s not. No, what is important is that you got me this very sweet gift and I love it.

Allie: Tripp, tell me what the caduceus– tell me what it actually means.

Tripp: Well, with the two snakes in ancient times, it’s associated with alchemy and thieves, and liars.

Allie: You are the smartest, fiercest, most beautiful woman I know. Anybody would be lucky to be with you.

Chanel: Do you really mean that?

Allie: Yeah, I do.

Tripp: Allie, are you okay?

Brady: I’m really glad that your parents are back on track. I know you’ve been stressed about phillip’s disappearance, so this is one less thing you have to worry about, right?

Chloe: Yeah, it is. And since you’ve been so supportive, I wanted to know if you wanted to join my parents and me for breakfast? They-they’re leaving town but they wanna meet at the pub.

Brady: Yeah, sure. No, I’d love to come.

Chloe: Okay, cool. And can you do me a little favor? Can you not mention my mom’s meltdown when she first got back to salem? You know, the awful misunderstanding with my dad?

Brady: Yes, chloe, I have no intention of bringing that up.

Chloe: Okay, thank you. I think it’s better if we just all pretend like it never happened, you know, just be happy for them.

Brady: Agreed. Let’s go eat.

Chloe: Okay.

[Soft music]

Nancy: Craig…

Craig: Hmm?

Nancy: I’m so sorry that I doubted you.

Craig: Nancy, no apologizing.

Nancy: But I have to. Sweetheart, look, I’m ashamed of the way I-I ran at chloe. I-I confronted you angrily. I should have trusted you. I should have trusted us. And I fear that– no, no, I am not gonna talk about my insecurities anymore, except maybe to my therapist.

Craig: Okay, okay. Listen to me. There is no reason for you to feel insecure, okay? You, you’re a wonderful person, darling. You got a great, kind heart, and you make me laugh. That wicked sense of humor of yours which, you know, is one of the reasons why I love you most.

Nancy: I love hearing that, craig, but there’s– there’s still a part of me that needs to feel like you’re still attracted to me.

Craig: Oh, okay. If–if you’ve been feeling that lately, that one’s on me. All right? Nancy, I love you, and I’m truly sorry.

Nancy: I’m just so happy we can talk so openly about this, but now, as much as I’d like to stay here in bed with you all day, we need to get dressed so we can go have breakfast with our daughter.

Craig: Yes, we do.

Nancy: Craig?

Craig: Mm-hmm.

Nancy: You just make me so happy. And honey, I just feel so guilty.

Tripp: No, no, I’m–I’m–I’m sorry. I’m sorry. You–you gave me this awesome gift. And I just go all nerd on you with useless trivia. I’m–I’m sorry. I’m sorry you’re stuck with such a geek for a boyfriend.

Allie: Hey, no, there’s– there’s no one that I’d rather be stuck with.

[Tender music]

Chanel: I don’t understand it, abe. It–it wasn’t like it was just some fling. We talked about our future, what we wanted. We–we both wanted the same things. We had real plans. Right before the reception, johnny told me how much he loved me, and then he just totally humiliated me. Like everything we shared was a lie.

Abe: Well, you know, I can’t imagine how that felt how that must feels now.

Chloe: Like hell. That’s how it feels. And that’s why mama thinks we should bleed johnny for every penny that he has.

Abe: Is that what you want?

Marlena: Paulina, I can’t tell you how grateful I am to at least try to make amends.

Paulina: Well, I think I have a vase those might fit in.

Marlena: For what it’s worth, I know how happy you made abe.

Paulina: Did he say that?

Marlena: No. Um-um, no, sorry. I haven’t–I haven’t spoken to him. I mean, after what I put the two of you through, I’ve just kept my distance. It’s also why I didn’t go to the party for johnny and chanel.

Paulina: Whoo-hoo, and what a party it was. I’m sure you heard.

Marlena: No, heard what?

Paulina: Instead of a celebration, it turned into one big nightmare… for me and my daughter, anyway.

Marlena: What happened?

Paulina: I won’t go into the gory details. Let’s just say your grandson broke my little girl’s heart.

Tr: You promised your grandmother you wouldn’t make the movie?

Johnny: I did.

Tr: Now that’s disappointing. And I hate being disappointed. So I suggest you rectify the situation.

Johnny: There’s not much I can do. Things got a little crazy when the devil came back and possessed my grandma again.

Tr: Again? That’s even more reason to do the film. You’ve got a built-in sequel. Hell, it practically writes itself. And if we put our heads together, I’m sure that we can come up with “possessed part three” without too much trouble.

Johnny: I do have some thoughts.

Tr: So what are you doing about it? Sitting around in your pajamas all day will not gonna make you rich and famous. You gotta get up off your ass and think big, son.

Johnny: Oh, don’t worry. I have plenty of ideas.

Tr: It takes more than ideas. It takes some guts and energy, which is what I thought you had the day you knocked on my door to pitch your project.

Johnny: Well, no guts, no glory. Isn’t that what they say?

Tr: I told you when we met that you needed to be motivated, to stay motivated, that the film business was cutthroat.

Johnny: And I told you that cutting throats wouldn’t be a problem for me.

[Eerie music]

Tripp: Oh, now that was the best possible way to spend the morning, and i won’t even be late for work. Although it would be totally worth it.

Allie: Go, go save the world with your mad doctor skills.

Tripp: Well… could you?

Allie: Yeah.

[Gentle music]

Tripp: Now, you know, I have a couple of minutes, so if you want, I can wait for you to get ready and drop you off at the bakery.

Allie: Oh, I’m actually spending the day home with henry. Nicole had some work emergency, and the babysitter is sick.

Tripp: Is chanel gonna be okay?

Allie: Yeah, I texted her earlier. She said she’s got it.

Tripp: I mean–I actually meant, you know, what happened with johnny.

Allie: Oh, yeah. God, tripp, he–he really screwed her up. So sweet of you to ask.

Tripp: Pree’s your best friend, right? And you love her. So that means she’s important to me, too.

[Delicate music]

Chanel: At–at first, I–I didn’t want johnny to pay, but then allie told me she saw him kissing some girl. I mean, already? God, it’s just–it’s all so horrible and complicated.

Abe: Yeah. Hey, come here. Come here. Yeah, it’s okay, it’s okay.

Chanel: Oh, god. I’m sorry. I hate falling apart like this.

Abe: Don’t be sorry. You know, the way johnny treated you, nobody should be treated that way, but remember, you’re not alone in this. You have your mom. You have your friends, and your family. I know how much allie loves you. And I am so glad that you have such a good friend to help you through this.

Chanel: Yeah, I’m very grateful.

Abe: You know, lani and i are– well, we are closer than ever, and I hope you and i can stay close, too. If that’s what you want.

Chanel: It’s definitely what I want.

Abe: [Chuckles]

Marlena: I don’t understand this. You know, when–when johnny came home from italy, he–he told us how–how much he loved chanel, how happy he was to be married to her. Oh, I’m so sorry.

Paulina: Not as sorry as that fickle young man’s gonna be once I get through with him because–now don’t get offended, ’cause I know he’s your grandson, but I’m gonna make that boy pay for what he did to my daughter.

Brady: I hope it’s okay that I join you for breakfast here.

Nancy: Of course. I was telling chloe that I hoped you would be here too.

Brady: Thank you. That’s kind of you.

Craig: It’s great to see you, brady.

Nancy: You two were privy yesterday to my meltdown. And I–I wanted to say that I’m ashamed if I was–if I was any way accusatory of my–my good and honest husband. And, I also wanna say to my daughter, which is very close to what you said to me, brady, when I got to salem and was sort of out of control, like I said, and that is, sweetheart, don’t ever make accusations against the person that you love unless you have strong evidence that you’re–you’re not imagining that they betrayed you. I guess what I’m trying to say in all of this is, don’t ever be like your mom. Don’t let your insecurities take over and–and doubt the devotion of the person that loves you.

Chloe: Okay, thanks. Got it, mom.

Nancy: I know, sweetheart, that you’re not insecure like me. I mean, you’re beautiful, and you’re smart–

Chloe: Stop it. So are you.

Nancy: But I don’t always feel that way. And I impose too much on your dad to–to reassure me.

Craig: Nancy, you don’t impose on me ever. I obviously have been deficient as of late, especially in making you feel secure about our love for each other. Our marriage. But I love you, and… I’m deeply, deeply, sorry that I hurt your feelings.

Nancy: You’re the best man that I know, craig wesley, and I love you so much.

Craig: I love you with all my heart, nancy wesley. All my heart.

[Warm music]

Craig: Well, this looks delicious.

Nancy: Oh, it does, doesn’t it?

Craig: Mm-hmm.

[Cell phone beeps] Oh. Oh. [Sighs] I–you know what? This is about a patient I have to call in. I’m gonna step outside for a second, okay? Um–

Nancy: Of course.

Craig: Honey, I’ll be right back. Please start eating. Don’t let this get cold, right? I’ll be right back.

Nancy: Hurry back, sweetheart, please.

Chloe: Mom, I’m so happy for you and for dad.

Brady: Me too, nancy. It’s great to see you’re working it out.

Nancy: Me too, and I’m so glad also. In fact, I’m over the moon, and I really have the two of you to thank for all your support, especially you, darling, for always being there for me.

[Eerie music]

Tr: So what’s it gonna be, johnny? You willing to pay the price to get what you want? Or are you gonna lay around on your daddy’s money?

Johnny: Maybe you’re right. Maybe I gave up too soon. Subject matter was brilliant, if I do say so myself. But what do you suggest I tell my grandmother?

Tr: Well, I’m sure your dear old granny thinks you’re a good boy. So if it’ll make things easier for you, I’ll be the bad guy. It’s not like I don’t have experience in breaking promises to little old ladies or anybody else who doesn’t understand my dream.

Johnny: Whatever it takes, huh?

Tr: Gotta crack a few eggs, johnny. Not that I would be anything but a gentleman to your grandmother. What’s the worst that’s gonna happen anyway? She skip church bingo so she can crack a cane over your head?

Johnny: You, sir, do not know marlena evans like I do. The woman’s got plenty of fire, trust me.

Tr: Oh, I don’t doubt that she’s a tough old bird. After all, she did outsmart the devil twice.

[Laughs] But now she’s got to deal with me, and this is how it’s gonna go down. You gonna tell granny marlena that you can’t get out of this deal and that if you even try to screw me over on this film, I will ruin you.

Johnny: You’d really do that? You’d ruin me?

Tr: I am capable of many things. But hell, no, man, I ain’t gonna ruin you. I need you. But that’s what you’re gonna tell your grandma.

Johnny: Oh, you had me worried there for a second.

Tr: Nothing to worry about. We’re a team. I take care of my own so long as you don’t disappoint me. What do you say?

[Uneasy music]

Johnny: Man, I feel like I’m making a deal with the devil.

Tr: I may act like a badass, johnny, but I’m actually a very gentle soul unless I’m crossed.

Paulina: Oh, oh.

Abe: Paulina.

Paulina: Hello. I–I was just headed into the bakery to see chanel.

Abe: Oh, wait, wait, you just missed her. She–she wasn’t feeling well, and she headed home.

Chanel: Oh, what are you doing, dupree? Stop it.

[Knock at door] Tripp, what are you doing here?

Tripp: I hope you don’t mind me dropping in like this, but there’s just something I’m wanted to tell you. My asthma felt anything but normal.

Chloe: Dad’s phone call is certainly taking a long time, right?

Brady: Mm-hmm.

Nancy: That’s the way it usually is. They call with one question, turns into a hundred.

Brady: Well, it’s a shame his eggs are getting cold.

Nancy: Not just his eggs. The man forgot his jacket. He’s gonna get a chill.

Chloe: You know what? I’ll bring him his jacket after I keep eating his eggs. I’ll be right back.

Nancy: Thank you, sweetheart. This is wonderful.

Brady: I know. The pub has the best food.

Nancy: That’s so true. That’s not what I meant. Yesterday, brady, I would have been absolutely positive that craig was lying to me about that being a work call, but today, I’m perfectly calm. Because my loving wonderful husband has gone out of his way to show me how much he loves me.

Craig: I know, I know, honey. I miss you too. I do–I do.

[Melancholy music]

Chanel: What did you wanna talk about?

Tripp: I didn’t just wanna say this over the phone. I wanted to talk to you about in person.

Chanel: Okay.

Tripp: Allie and I– we’re both here for you, okay? And what her brother did to you was the worst. And I just wanted you to know that you deserve a hell of a lot better than johnny dimera, okay?

[Soft music]

Johnny: What can I tell you, grandma? I got caught up in the romance of italy being with a beautiful woman. One minute, I was eating gelato with chanel, the next minute, I was proposing. And by the time we got back home, I realized that I had made a huge mistake.

Marlena: Well, it’s–it’s one thing to acknowledge a mistake, but johnny, you were cruel.

Johnny: Not my finest hour, I admit. And I’m sorry for that, for hurting chanel. But I’m even sorrier that I’m gonna hurt you, grandma.

Marlena: Me?

Johnny: By breaking a promise that I made.

Marlena: By breaking what promise?

Johnny: The one about my movie.

Paulina: Did chanel tell you that she and that no-good dimera boy are getting a divorce?

Abe: Yeah, she did. I’m sorry.

Paulina: Phony little creep. He gave me his word that he would make my little girl happy. Well, I guess a man’s word isn’t–isn’t what it used to be. At least for some men.

Abe: Well, right, right. But, you know, I–I–i did do my best to give chanel some comfort.

Paulina: Well, if you tried, I’m sure that you did. My baby–she thinks the world of you.

Abe: As I do of her. Hey, I, you know, heard about your near miss with the dimera chandelier. I’m–I’m glad to see your ankle is okay.

Paulina: Well, lani– she’s just too modest to admit it, but she saved my life.

Abe: Yes, I–I heard that, too. Well, I should go, and have a nice day, okay?

Paulina: You too, abe.

Tr: Paulina?

Paulina: Oh, my god. Ray?
