Recap written by Christine

Sally and Victoria were at Society. Victoria hoped Sally didn’t take it personally, but she wasn’t in the mood for conversation. Sally understood that Victoria would need time to unwind after suffering one blow after another. Sally admired Victoria’s tenacity and found her strength and resilience inspiring. Victoria appreciated the compliment, and she didn’t expect it. She imagined Sally and Adam were disappointed that she and Adam lost their temporary titles when Victoria took over the reigns at Newman again. Sally said she was satisfied with being COO of Newman Media, and she and Adam were excited about their plans going forward. Victoria recalled Adam saying something similar earlier. Sally said the only one who lost was Ashland.

Victoria said Ashland was several hundreds of millions of dollars richer, thanks to Adam. Sally doubted the money made him any happier, since he gave half of it away. Victoria asked how Sally knew about that. Sally explained that she overheard Ashland talking to Nick. After Ashland made the transfer, he didn’t look happy. Sally said Ashland had a brief conversation with Adam afterward, and it was obvious to her that Ashland was broken up over losing Victoria. Victoria said that either Sally misread the situation, or Ashland was playing her and Adam, the way Billy did when he pretended to be falling apart. Sally said Ashland couldn’t fool her. Victoria tensed. “Not that I’m a better judge of character than you,” Sally hastily added. Sally said she’d been where Ashland was, so she could read him. Victoria wanted to hear more, so she invited Sally to sit.

Sally revealed that she too, pretended to be terminally ill to win someone’s love. Victoria didn’t realize there were two people on the planet who could stoop so low. Victoria understood why Adam liked Sally so much – they were two of a kind. Sally knew that wasn’t a compliment but she decided to take it as one. Victoria asked if Sally scammed some poor man into marriage. Sally said it didn’t get that far, and now Wyatt was so hurt, he cut her out of his life completely, just like Victoria was doing with Ashland. Sally knew Ashland’s pain and shame were real, because she’d been there. She never had the option of paying half a billion dollars for redemption, but if she did, she would’ve, because that was how horrible it felt to know you hit rock bottom and hurt the one person you loved more than anything. Victoria looked uncomfortable. Sally said she kind of felt sorry for Ashland.

Victoria said Sally’s sympathy was misplaced, and she was projecting. Victoria said Sally was trying to hold onto someone she loved, while Ashland was just using Victoria to get what he really wanted, which was full control of Newman Locke. Sally said Ashland lost all hope of gaining that, and he was still here, so he may have realized there was something more important than that. Victoria said Ashland hated to lose, and he enjoyed manipulating people, so she didn’t care what his intentions were. Sally said Victoria had every right to feel that way. Sally was at the wedding, and she saw Ashland make this amazing declaration of love, so it was hard for her to believe at least some of that wasn’t genuine. She said it didn’t matter though, because it was too late. She guessed Ashland should move on, like she did, and try to do better with the next woman in his life. Victoria agreed. Sally knew what she had with Adam was healthy and strong because she learned from her mistakes. Sally didn’t think it was fair that some other woman would benefit from all the time Victoria spent teaching Ashland how to be another man. She said Ashland would probably be haunted by the way he treated Victoria for the rest of his life, but he had no one to blame but himself. Sally hoped things got better for Victoria, and she left.

Victor and Michael met at The Grand Phoenix. Michael wanted to make sure Victor knew Diane was back. Victor wanted Diane to leave, and he said he was going to make sure she knew that everyone in the town wasn’t going to let bygones be bygones. Victor wanted to talk business, but Michael shifted gears and said Lauren had stepped up her efforts to get him to quit his job. “What the hell does this have to do with your wife? You’re my lawyer. Do I need to hire someone else?,” Victor said. Michael said no, so Victor changed the subject back to business. Victor said Ashland was still in town, and Victor wanted Michael to get rid of that SOB, permanently.

Michael wanted to know exactly what Victor had in mind. Victor assured Michael that his life wouldn’t be at risk. Victor wouldn’t stand for Ashland making Victoria’s life hell. Michael asked if Ashland did anything they could take to a judge. Victor said Ashland was just hovering and trying to impress Victoria with his undying love. Michael asked if Ashland was sincere. Victor’s point was that Ashland was becoming frustrated – Victoria was being cold to Ashland, and once he realized his tactics weren’t working, he gave half of his buyout to New Hope in Rey’s name. Victor said that of course Ashland’s tactics weren’t working.

Victor said Victoria had finally wised up, and she knew she couldn’t trust a word that came out of that SOB’s mouth. Michael knew that must be painful for Victoria. He wondered if Victoria was tempted to believe her love redeemed Ashland. Victor said no – Ashland fooled Victoria once, but he wouldn’t fool her again. Ashland wasn’t used to losing. Victor was worried about what Ashland would do in the face of Victoria’s continual rejection. Victor wanted to come up with a plan to protect Victoria.

Nikki went to Crimson Lights, and Ashland was there. She asked if he was lying in wait, hoping Victoria would come by again. He assumed Victoria told her that they spoke earlier about his donation to New Hope. He was gratified that Victoria didn’t object. Nikki thought Ashland also found it gratifying to see how much it hurt Victoria to see him. He said he didn’t want to hurt Victoria – every move he was making now was to ease her pain. Nikki said all Ashland did was lie. She told him that if he loved Victoria, he should leave her alone.

Ashland followed Nikki over to the condiment bar to continue the conversation. He didn’t want to upset her, but he couldn’t leave things the way they just did. He hated to think she was telling Victoria he never cared for her, because nothing could be further from the truth. Nikki was tired of hearing Ashland saying this. He admitted it was cruel to deceive Victoria, but he said he eventually realized what a treasure his wife was. He was trying to help Victoria understand that and maybe win her forgiveness. Nikki thought that would be even more cruel than what Ashland had already done. She said he was toxic, a narcissist incapable of putting people’s needs ahead of his own. She thought everything was a game to him – just another move on a chessboard. Her daughter deserved better. Victoria walked in and asked what was going on.

Nikki said she was telling Ashland what she thought of him and how selfish he was to keep inflicting himself on Victoria. Ashland apologized and said he should’ve realized that a mother as protective as Nikki wouldn’t want to her his apology, no matter how heartfelt. Nikki scoffed. Victoria said it wasn’t worth getting into it with Ashland. She didn’t care what Ashland did or where he went. Victoria continued to the counter to place an order. Nikki said she didn’t share her daughter’s indifference. Nikki said she and Victor didn’t go after Ashland before because it had been more important to get Victoria out of the marriage, but now they’d done that. Nikki said that if Ashland didn’t stay away from Victoria, Nikki and Victor would come up with their own way of solving the problem.

Victoria and Nikki went back to work. Victoria was tired, and Nikki suggested they go away to a European spa. Victoria thought Nikki wanted to get her away from Ashland. “Ashland who?,” Nikki replied. Victoria said they had too much to do right now, like officially changing the name of the company etc. Nikki understood that, but she thought Victoria needed a break, since she hadn’t had any downtime since she found out what Ashland was up to. Victoria appreciated the concern, but she wasn’t on the verge of a nervous breakdown – she was going to get through this.

Sally noticed Ashland drowning his sorrows at the Society bar. She went over and told him that Victoria had been sitting on that same stool earlier and in that same mood, only she’d hidden it a little better. Ashland asked if Sally found it entertaining. She said she found it sad – two people who missed each other – one too proud to admit it and one too proud to keep up the fight. He asked why she cared. She said she was a sucker for romance. She left. He looked pensive.

At the cottage, Sharon made some phone calls regarding deliveries for the wedding. Faith came home with the dry cleaning, and she tried to keep Sharon from seeing it. Sharon saw what Faith was hiding – a shirt Sharon had purchased for Rey when they honeymooned in Miami. Faith was sorry. She knew Sharon wanted to focus on the wedding today. When Sharon said that, she didn’t mean she didn’t want to talk about Rey at all. Rey was on Sharon’s mind all the time. That was true for Faith, too. According to Faith, the dry cleaner mentioned that Rey never picked up the shirt, and she’d asked Faith to say hi to him for her. Faith tearfully stated that she didn’t know what to say when she realized the woman hadn’t heard Rey died. It didn’t seem real. Every time the door opened, Faith thought Rey would be coming home. Sharon felt like that too. Faith said Rey had been there for them through all the scariest moments – like Sharon’s cancer, Faith’s transplant and Mariah’s kidnapping, and now that they were okay, he didn’t get to be here for it. It was so messed up. Faith and Sharon hugged.

Faith apologized because she’d been trying to stay positive around Sharon. Sharon didn’t want Faith to hide her feelings. It helped Sharon that people saw how special Rey was and they missed him too. Sharon mentioned that an anonymous benefactor made a large donation in Rey’s name to New Hope. The money would go to provide affordable housing and to fund things for at risk kids – causes that were important to Rey. Sharon said it was a beautiful way to make sure Rey’s kindness and compassion were never forgotten.

Tessa and Mariah were at home. It was still the day before the wedding. Mariah was on edge, expecting something to go wrong. Tessa brightly said she’d been the worrywart earlier, and now they’d switched places. Mariah asked how Tessa stopped worrying. Tessa just decided to be optimistic. That made Mariah even more worried that things would be jinxed. Tessa said that the wedding coming together had nothing to do with luck and everything to do with Mariah’s family coming through for them. Mariah said that her mom needed something happy and joyous in her life right now. Tessa was glad her and Mariah’s love could give Sharon that. There was a knock on the door, and Mariah worried there was something about to go wrong. It was Crystal, here to surprise her sister. Tessa and Crystal hugged.

If Tessa had known Crystal was flying in tonight, she would’ve met her at the airport with balloons and a maid of honor tiara. Crystal knew Tessa would be frantic with all that last minute stuff, so she found her own ride. Mariah and Crystal hugged, and Mariah commented that Crystal looked confident and strong, like a whole new person. Crystal said she’d grown up a lot in the time she was gone. She missed Tessa like crazy. Crystal was glad she got to be here for the big day. Tessa said that it was all Rey’s doing. Crystal asked how Sharon was. Tessa and Mariah talked while Crystal was in the shower. Mariah was going over to the cottage the night before the wedding. They were gleeful because the next time they saw each other, they’d be walking down the aisle. They kissed.

Faith loved the gift bags Sharon made, and she said she saw where Noah got his artistic talents. Sharon said they weren’t perfect. Faith thought that was fine because they were handmade, not mass produced. Faith likened the bags to Tessa and Mariah’s relationship – they accepted each other as they were and didn’t hide their flaws. Mariah came to the cottage for the sleepover. Sharon asked if Mariah was superstitious that it’d be bad luck to see her bride before the ceremony. Mariah said maybe a little, but it was mainly that she and Tessa liked some of the old traditions. Mariah mentioned that Crystal was here – Rey gave them an incredible gift. Sharon said he was still there with them.

Faith asked what Mariah was looking forward to most tomorrow. Mariah was most looking forward to marrying the love of her life. Faith was looking forward to dancing. Sharon mentioned that Faith would have to be in line for the bouquet toss. Faith said she wasn’t going to go nuts trying to catch it because she didn’t want to freak Moses out. Sharon was looking forward to every part of the day. She’d missed out on so many important moments in Mariah’s life, and she wanted to soak this up.

Later, Sharon was downstairs alone twisting her wedding ring. Mariah came downstairs for some tea to help her sleep. Mariah said for so long she was watching people pairing up, starting families and building futures. That was all she wanted too, but she was afraid it would pass her by. Mariah apologized for her insensitivity – saying that when Sharon just lost the person she thought she’d spend the rest of her life with. Sharon said that no part of Mariah’s happiness hurt her. Sharon thought that when Mariah had kids, she’d understand. Sharon thought the love Mariah found with Tessa was amazing. It was everything Sharon wanted for Mariah, and she didn’t want her to feel guilty even for a second. They hugged, and Sharon smiled as she held her daughter and looked over her shoulder at the wedding photo of her and Rey.

Back at the apartment, Crystal looked at the “stunning” portrait Noah painted of Mariah and Tessa. Crystal said that Noah must be over how this all started. Tessa said it was awkward at first, but they moved on. Crystal asked how the relationship between Tessa and Sharon was now. Crystal recalled that Sharon had issues with Tessa. Tessa admitted Sharon had good reason to, but they’d moved on and grown close. Tessa said she and Sharon had to lean on each other when Mariah went missing, and Rey was so supportive. Crystal couldn’t believe she was finally out from under those charges, thanks to Rey, someone she never even met. Things were better than okay in Canada, but she’d gotten used to feeling like she’d never be safe. Now she could go wherever she wanted. She wished she had the chance to thank Rey. Tessa said Crystal would’ve loved Rey. Crystal thought the whole family sounded great, and now Tessa would be one of them.

Tessa thought it was pretty wild that she was about to join this big boisterous loving family. Especially after the way she and Crystal grew up – in a chaotic and unpredictable home. Tessa had been thinking a lot about it because she and Mariah were going to have kids. Tessa wondered if that was crazy. Crystal said Tessa had the biggest heart of anyone she knew, and she’d practically raised Crystal. Tessa said it was Mariah’s idea. It took awhile, then Tessa realized adoption was the best thing for them. Crystal thought it would be perfect for Tessa to give a loving home to a kid in a bad situation and save them from growing up the way she and Tessa did. Tessa said she and Mariah both had bad childhoods, and Mariah’s was even worse – she grew up in a literal cult.

Tessa said she and Mariah decided they needed to know they had what it took to be good spouses and parents. Crystal asked what made the difference. Tessa said she and Mariah just decided they weren’t going to let this relationship fail – they almost did many times, but they always found a way to come back to each other and make things right. Crystal thought Tessa was talking about trust. Crystal had never experienced that. Tessa said if it happened for her, it could definitely happen for Crystal. Crystal though they were getting way too deep, when tonight was supposed to be about fun. Crystal decided to do Tessa’s hair.

Recap written by Christine

Nick gave Sharon a ride home from the airport, and she got a big hug from Faith. Sharon was in good spirits after her trip to Miami for Rey’s memorial. Faith wished she’d gone with Sharon, but Sharon said that it was the right decision to go alone. Sharon would tell Faith all about the memorial later, but now she wanted to talk about the wedding, which was tomorrow. Faith and Nick exchanged a look. Sharon assured them that she was okay, and she said they had to turn their attention to the wedding. Nick wanted to talk to Sharon alone, so Faith went upstairs.

Sharon was bowled over when Nick told her that someone wanted to donate 250 million dollars to New Hope in Rey’s name. She asked who the donor was, and Nick said it was Ashland. He assured her the donation would be anonymous. He’d been struggling with this. He couldn’t stand that creep, and he knew Ashland was only doing it to get Victoria’s forgiveness. “Just take the money, Nick” Sharon quickly urged. She knew he hated Ashland, and she did too, but Rey would want to see something bad turned into something good. She thought this was poetic justice.

Mariah and Tessa were at home, and they were looking forward to their big day. They went through a mental checklist – everything was all set. Mariah said she had to practice saying their vows without dissolving into tears. Mariah panicked because she never confirmed with Kyle that he’d officiate the wedding. Tessa was sure Devon would do it. Mariah loved Devon, but she had her heart set on Kyle. Noah showed up, and then they all left for the Top of the Tower to see how he’d set things up for the wedding. Mariah, Tessa and Noah returned to the apartment. The couple was very impressed with what Noah had done to Top of the Tower. They said it Noah asked if they didn’t trust him to make something special. Mariah said of course they did, but this was beyond. Tessa asked how they could ever thank Noah. Noah joked that their undying gratitude was more than enough.

Kyle showed up wanting to talk, so Tessa and Noah went downstairs to Crimson Lights. Mariah knew Kyle had a lot on his plate, but she pleaded with him not to say he was going to disappoint her. He’d planned to go to Milan tonight. He really wanted to get back to Summer and talk to her about Diane. He’d been so distracted, he forgot about the wedding until he started packing. Mariah thought Kyle would miss the ceremony, and she was disappointed, but she understood. Kyle said he talked to Summer, and she convinced him to stay for the wedding. She’d cleared her schedule, and she was flying to Genoa City to support him with his mom. Excited, Mariah said that this meant Summer was coming to the wedding and that Kyle could officiate it.

Kyle wasn’t thinking clearly right now, so he wasn’t sure he was in the right head space to conduct a wedding ceremony. He was worried he’d mess up. Mariah appreciated Kyle’s candor. She said he could never do anything to disappoint her. He said he’d never intentionally do that, but… Mariah said no buts. She thought that tomorrow would be a perfect wait to clear his head of some of the turmoil he was in. she said he’d be launching them into this amazing journey of, bonding, family, motherhood… She apologized for saying motherhood, but he didn’t mind. He thought Mariah and Tessa would make amazing moms. She said that none of this would be possible without him. She’d never forget what he did for them – pushing them into that first date. She said it would be like the magical completion of the circle, and magic was way too rare to say no to. Kyle agreed to do it. He was honored to be asked, and he didn’t want the fact that he’d had to be pushed into it to make it seem like he wasn’t thrilled to be involved. He promised he’d get ordained and be ready for tomorrow. She said it would just be a few clicks on the internet, and they had a script for him. He said he might want to say a few words too, and she was fine with that. She added that she had his back while he was dealing with his mom.

Downstairs, Tessa wondered if Mariah would be able to get Kyle to officiate. Tessa was going to have her sister at the wedding, and she wanted Mariah to have everything she wanted. Noah commented on how Tessa and Mariah always wanted the best for each other. Tessa first knew she was falling in love when she wanted something for someone else more than she wanted anything for herself. He hoped this was the most extraordinary wedding ever. She said the Top of the Tower looked magical. She was glad they got past the awkwardness. He was glad too, and he gave her credit for being so open and honest with him and Mariah. He’d always love Tessa as a friend and as the woman who made his sister so happy. She said his friendship meant so much to her, and soon they’d be family.

Later, Sharon, Tessa, Faith and Noah came upstairs. Kyle was already gone. Everyone was concerned because Sharon was up and about instead of resting. She wanted them to stop worrying about her. She wondered if it’d help if she told them about Rey’s service. She said it was lovely, and it helped to have that time with Celeste, Lola, Arturo and their extended family and friends. Everyone at the Miami service understood why Sharon came alone, and they all had nice things to say about Rey. Mariah asked how Lola was. She was excited about the wedding and sorry she couldn’t be there. Sharon said no more sorrys and sadness – all that mattered was pulling off the perfect wedding for their beautiful brides – Rey would want nothing less. Tessa was excited when Mariah said Kyle would officiate. Faith suggested they give Sharon a job to do. They put her on gift bag assembly, and she was happy to do it. Sharon brought a basket of things for Tessa and Mariah to use to pamper themselves – face masks, tea, nail polish etc. they both appreciated it. Sharon wanted the brides-to-be to relax and accept that everything would be taken care of. The guests left to take care of the last minute issues. Mariah and Tessa marveled that tomorrow they’d be bonding their lives together forever.

Victoria approached Ashland at Crimson Lights. She said Nick told her about his offer to donate half his buyout to New Hope to be used for work done in Rey’s name. He was meeting with Nick later, to hear his decision, and he hoped Nick would take the money. Victoria agreed – that money could do a lot of good in the right hands. It pained him that she no longer thought of his hands as the right ones. She appreciated his generous gesture, but after everything he’d done, she was sure he could understand how hard it was for her to believe he didn’t have an ulterior motive.

Ashland didn’t blame Victoria for being suspicious. He said his motivation was guilt. He felt he had to pay back the wrong he did to her and to her family and for Rey’s death. He knew it was an accident, but none of them would’ve been on the road that night if not for the pain he caused Victoria. Victoria revealed that Rey died of a heart attack, and that was what caused the accident, so Ashland didn’t need to feel guilty, at least not about that. He thanked her for telling him that, when she could’ve just let him blame himself. She reasoned that he had enough to feel guilty about. She wondered if he’d want to withdraw his offer to Nick, but he said Rey was a good man who deserved to be honored.

Victoria went back to work. Nikki dropped into the office for the coffee Victoria was supposed to bring her from Crimson Lights. Victoria admitted she forgot to buy it, because she got distracted by Ashland. Victoria brought Nikki up to speed on her talk with Ashland. Nikki sensed Victoria was haunted by her feelings for Ashland. Victoria said she’d pushed her feelings for him away. Nikki suspected that Victoria had just pushed them down, not away, which would only make the emotional turmoil worse later. Nikki thought Victoria should deal with her feelings now before they ate her up inside.

Victoria admitted part of her still loved Ashland. That mortified her. The worst part was that she kept wondering what if Ashland was actually telling the truth for the first time in his life. What if falling in love with her changed him and he regretted what he’d done? Those questions made Victoria feel week and humiliated. Nikki thought it was perfectly reasonable for Victoria to feel that way. Nikki said Victor had to show her a lot of proof before she could believe Ashland had actually done all these things, because his love for Victoria seemed so sincere. Nikki said Ashland’s love for Victoria might be the only true thing about him, but if that was the case, was it worth complete forgiveness? Victoria said of course not – nothing could undo the wrong Ashland did to all of them. “What about saving your life?,” Nikki asked.

Ashland and Nick met at Society. Nick accepted the money on the condition that the donation remain anonymous. He said that if Ashland was truly doing this out of the goodness of whatever heart he claimed to have, and not to repair his disgraced reputation, that shouldn’t be a problem. Ashland always intended to keep the donation anonymous, so he was fine with the stipulation. Nick said this didn’t change how he felt about Ashland. Ashland wasn’t surprised. Nick knew Ashland was only doing this to make himself look better in Victoria’s eyes. Ashland said Nick was making assumptions. Nick thought that if Ashland truly loved Victoria, he’d leave forever and give Victoria a chance to rebuild her life. Ashland refused to leave town. He said Harrison was here, and he planned to spend as much time with him as possible. Ashland wasn’t going to hurt Victoria any more than he already had. He was focused on improving himself, and this donation was a small first step toward making amends. Nick didn’t buy it or trust Ashland. He and he family weren’t going to let Ashland maneuver his way back into Victoria’s life. Ashland stated that he wasn’t intimidated by Nick. He said that the Newmans already closed ranks around Victoria and tried to run him out of town, and it didn’t work. Nick said next time, they’d get more creative and more extreme.

Sally dropped into Adam’s office. She wanted to discuss the budget, unless he’d decided to leave the company. He decided he couldn’t walk away from his family or the chance at ever running Newman Enterprises. It frustrated him that Victor couldn’t see that Victoria didn’t deserve the position after everything that went on with Ashland, but he felt that if he quit, she would win. Adam wanted to be the sole CEO of Newman Enterprises. Sally recalled Adam saying he had that job before, and it didn’t stick, so she said failure wasn’t an option this time. She asked how she could help him pull this off. He had the perfect plan, and Ashland was the key.

Sally wanted details. Adam initially thought that getting Ashland out would make him a hero in his dad’s eyes. That didn’t happen, unfortunately. Adam said that even after everything Ashland did, Victoria still seemed conflicted. Sally thought that was understandable, since you couldn’t just turn off your feelings. Adam said Ashland saved Victoria’s life when he pulled her out of a burning car. He didn’t think Ashland orchestrated that, but he thought Ashland would use it to try and win Victoria back. Sally suggested that Ashland’s love for Victoria was real, since betraying someone and loving them weren’t mutually exclusive. Adam thought it was more about ego and being rejected than love. Regardless, if Ashland won Victoria’s love and trust, either he’d take her as far away from Victor and all things Newman as possible, or Victor would be so angry with Victoria for taking Ashland back that he’d question her ability to run the company. Then the door would be open for Adam. Sally said all this was predicated on Ashland winning Victoria back. Adam suggested he and Sally help reignite Ashland and Victoria’s romance.

Sally was intrigued by the plan, but she was worried because Victor would turn on Adam if he found out about the scheme, and there would be no coming back. Adam said they’d have to be subtle, and they certainly couldn’t collude with Ashland. Sally agreed, since they knew Ashland couldn’t be trusted. Adam said the genius of the plan was they didn’t have to do anything overt to pull this off, and no one would ever know it was them.

Sally and Adam went to Society, and took a table near the bar, which was where Nick and Ashland were sitting. Ashland wondered if this had something to do with Nick’s warning that the Newmans were going to get more extreme. Nick wanted to get moving on the donation. Ashland made a call and transferred the money to New Hope. Nick thanked Ashland for the donation and said at least one good thing would come out of his lies. Nick left. Adam overheard everything. Adam said Ashland’s donation was a clever power play, but it didn’t mean Victoria would take him back. Ashland said this was none of Adam’s damn business. Adam thought that was rude to say, since he was the reason Ashland had a half a billion dollars.

Ashland regretted taking the money, since it wasn’t worth giving up the woman he loved. Adam didn’t buy that, he noted that Ashland wasn’t upholding his end of the bargain. Ashland pointed out that he agreed to leave the company and have his marriage annulled. Ashland asked what the problem was. Adam said that the problem was that Victoria fell for Ashland and she didn’t drive him out of town after she found out what he’d done. He said it was like Victoria was still holding onto the fantasy of the guy she thought she fell in love with. Ashland left. Sally could tell Ashland was affected by the hint that Victoria still had feelings for him. Sally said the best part was the fact that Adam made it look like an insult. Adam was going to go plant another seed. He said he’d see Sally at the office.

Victoria and Nikki continued their discussion at Newman Enterprises, and they didn’t notice Adam walk in. Victoria said that she was still trying to figure out what it meant – Ashland rescuing her. They finally noticed Adam. He said he couldn’t get over the lack of gratitude for getting Ashland out of her life and out of the company. Victoria told Adam that he’d never thrive in business if he didn’t get past his continual need for positive reinforcement. He said he’d come to tell her that he wouldn’t fight her on not naming him co-CEO, and he wouldn’t try and get Victor to change his mind. He congratulated Nikki and said he looked forward to working with them both. He left. Nikki asked what the hell that was about. Victoria had no idea, but she could use a break from all things Newman. She left to get fresh air.

Victoria wasn’t using her cane anymore, but she still had a limp as she entered Society and took a seat at the bar. Sally made a beeline to her and asked how she was doing since the accident. Victoria said she was healing, then she turned away from Sally. Sally persevered and continued to try and strike up a conversation. Sally was impressed Victoria was back to work. Sally assumed Victoria was here to escape the office intrigue. She wanted to talk with Victoria and offered to buy her a drink.

Nick and Sharon met at her place, and he told her about taking the money, even though he hated being near Ashland. She thought he did the right thing. She couldn’t wait to go to the first ribbon cutting ceremony. She knew Rey would be smiling down at them. He asked what she was doing today. She told him about the gift bags she was going to make. Faith was out getting the supplies. Nick wanted to know how Sharon was really doing. Sharon said it was hard in Miami at first, seeing how deeply other people missed Rey. She bonded with Rey’s family over their grief. Lola was excited about the wedding. Arturo’s little boy was too young to understand why everyone was together; he just knew he was surrounded by people he loved. Sharon said that was a reminder that they had to celebrate all they had right now, because life went on. That was why she was putting all her energy into making sure Mariah and Tessa had an amazing day. He was proud of her and her strength. Sharon said she and Nick had been through hell more than once, and they always made it through – what other choice was there? She thought this wedding – this joyous life-affirming event couldn’t happen at a better time.

Recap written by Christine

Jack told the weeping Allie that he didn’t mean to upset her when he said the Abbotts were her family. She assured him he didn’t do anything wrong. She appreciated him saying that. She tried to say more, but she broke down sobbing. Jack had sensed from the moment Allie got here that something was weighing on her. He wouldn’t have left earlier if not for there being another family issue, with Kyle. He assured her he was here now, and she had his full attention. Allie was so embarrassed. She didn’t usually lose control and cry in front of someone she didn’t know that long. He said he wasn’t a stranger – he was her grandfather. He said she always had a soft spot to land here. He made a lot of mistakes with her father, and he didn’t want to repeat them. Allie said her mother came back to LA after Jack and Phyllis left. Allie had hoped her mom came to spend time with her, but that wasn’t the case. Her mother came to sign some legal papers related to Keemo’s estate. Allie wished she could’ve talked to her mom about the Abbotts, but she never got the chance.

Allie’s mom came to LA, got a hotel for one night, signed the papers and left at the crack of dawn the next day. As a parent, Jack found that unconscionable. Allie said it would’ve been better if she’d never seen her mother at all, because seeing her like that just ripped the wound open. The lack of relationship with her mom made her miss her dad even more. “He was all that I had and now he’s gone,” she cried. Jack knew the loss of a parent was hard. Allie had felt empty and lonely, and she’d felt compelled, without even thinking about it, to come see Jack. He pulled her close and she cried on his shoulder. Once Allie had composed herself, Jack offered some sympathetic thoughts about parent/child relationships. Jack was sure there was more to the story with Allie and her mom, and he wasn’t going to pressure her to say more. He was happy, proud and grateful she came to him. He wanted her to think of this as her home.

In The Grand Phoenix lobby, Diane just learned that Kyle was going back to Italy. She assumed that he’d decided he didn’t want anything to do with her. She took it well, but she was clearly disappointed. Kyle and Diane went upstairs to talk in private, where he explained he was leaving town because he wanted to be with his wife. He still hadn’t made a decision about Diane. He needed to hear what Summer thought. She was curious what the Abbotts said about her after she left. He said it wasn’t his place to repeat what his family said. She understood. She asked what she could do to get another chance with him.

Diane was willing to do whatever it took. She’d take another grilling from the Abbotts, and she’d face the Newmans too. She wanted to show him she was worthy of another chance. He wasn’t sure there was one thing to do to make everything okay. She thought they could just open the door and take it from there. He said it was a dangerous door for him to open, because once he did, it would be hard to close it. He had to decide what to do. He hadn’t given up on her, but he had to figure out if that was because he still had a void created by her death. He also had to think of how this would affect Summer and Harrison. Diane smiled and said that was her grandson. Kyle said Harrison had already been through so much upheaval, and he refused to put his son through more. Diane was proud of the father Kyle became. He said he’d always put his son first. Diane said she tried to do the same, but she fell short. She guessed that if he was leaving, she should probably go back to LA. He said that was up to her whether she wanted to go back to her new life or mend other fences in Genoa City. Diane asked if there was someone specific Kyle wanted her to make amends to. She admitted she’d wronged a lot of people. He wasn’t talking about anyone in particular – that wasn’t his place. He also wasn’t making that a requirement for his forgiveness. He said he’d be in touch in a few days. He turned to go, but she asked if she could have a hug. They both had tears in their eyes. He nodded, and they embraced.

Kyle went back to the Abbott house. Allie told him she had no idea that Taylor – Diane was his mom. She thought Diane was just a random person buying her dad’s house. Kyle knew. Jack said they all knew that it was Diane’s machinations that put it all in motion. Jack invited Kyle to join him and Allie at Society. Kyle appreciated that, but he didn’t think it was possible. He’d love to get to know Allie better, but he was going to be taking Harrison home to Milan. Jack asked if something happened at the hotel. Kyle said he and Diane had a pleasant conversation. He just needed to get home to talk to Summer. Jack hated that Kyle and Harrison were leaving so soon. Kyle promised they’d come back soon. Jack hoped it wouldn’t be so dramatic next time. Kyle couldn’t promise that.

Lauren and Michael were at Society. They’d just returned from a vacation in France. They stayed at an airBnB run by a cute couple, and Lauren said that could be her and Michael some day. He asked if she wanted to run an inn. She thought running a winery would suit them better, but she did dream of retiring to France. She was hoping he’d rethink working for Victor, so they could ensure he didn’t end up with another experience like he had when he’d been thrown in a Peruvian prison. “You don’t like my work husband,” Michael said, laughing. Lauren never said she didn’t like Victor, and she wanted Michael to stop mocking her feelings. He said he wasn’t. He noted that Victor lent them a private jet to take to France. She thought that was the least Victor could do. Michael reasoned that his work would be less stressful now that Ashland had been purged from the company and his marriage to Victoria was being annulled. He hoped things would be quieter. She didn’t think things would ever be quieter with the Newmans. She fantasized about a life in the south of France. He said they could only have that life if she retired too. He asked if she was willing to do what she was asking of him and walk away from Fenmore’s.

Lauren thought Michael was being disingenuous. She said she could work remotely, which Victor would never tolerate. She said he chose to come out of retirement from the DA’s office and work for Victor, and he ended up in a prison cell. He blamed Ashland, but she maintained that Victor set it in motion. She asked what kind of hold Victor had on Michael that made him constantly defend him. Michael felt no need to defend his position. He said he helped Victor expose that treacherous snake. There was no telling what Ashland planned to do to Victoria if he got control of the company. “I help put a stop to that,” Michael stated. Lauren thought that was a good thing, but beside the point. Michael said that Lauren couldn’t run the company remotely while maintaining her high standards for it. He said the only way they could live a stress free life is if she let the company be run by someone else. She didn’t reply, and he said that meant her answer was no.

Michael wasn’t upset Lauren didn’t want to retire. He found her drive sexy. He just wished she could love his job. He promised they’d travel to every locale she wanted to, and eventually they’d retire somewhere, but not now while they were in their prime. She agreed that they were in their prime. He suggested that they continue to thrive in their respective careers, live their lives to the fullest, and when it was time, they’d walk off into the sunset hand-in-hand. She smiled and said he had a good point, but she added that her job was relatively safe. No one was going to put her behind bars because she declared pink the color of the season. He thought things with Victor would settle down, but if things became an issue, they’d revisit the topic. She wanted him to compare their wonderful trip to the time he spent behind bars.

Michael went to the Grand Phoenix bar, and unknowingly took the spot next to Diane. He saw her out of the corner of his eye, and she smiled. “No,” he said. “Yes. It’s me. I’m back,” she replied. Groaning, he noted that she was dead. “And now I’m not,” she replied. She said it was a blessing and a curse – she came back a changed woman, but no one would believe her. He asked if she ever thought anyone would. She’d hoped. She told him to give him her worst. She said she’d spent days explaining herself to people who didn’t believe her, and she was mentally and physically exhausted. She told him to go ahead and call her evil or a crazy bitch or whatever else he could think of. He warned her that he had a pretty good imagination. She’d thought it was possible to get a fresh start in Genoa City, but she was realizing that was increasingly unlikely. She told him to go ahead and insult her and storm off, so she could finish her drink in peace. He clarified that he actually thought it was pretty good to see her.

Diane wondered if Michael was happy to see her because he wanted to see her finally suffer for her crimes or because the town needed a new punching bag. “At least you have two kidneys,” he replied. He was genuinely glad she wasn’t dead. She wasn’t sure whether or not to believe him. He suggested that the new improved not-dead-Diane should be a smidge more trusting. She decided he was right. Phyllis exited the elevator and saw Diane and Michael clink glasses.

At the cottage, Sharon came downstairs in her black dress for the memorial service. Nick and Faith thought she looked beautiful. He’d talked to Chance and Abby, and they were going to meet them at the church. Chance had told Sharon that the GCPD was going to hold their own memorial service for Rey. Noah came downstairs and said he put together a slide show of photos for the service. Mariah and Tessa came in with food for after the service. Sharon was grateful everyone was here. Chelsea showed up. She’d heard about the memorial service, and she wanted to attend, but she understood if this was family only. Mariah gently explained that this was just for the family and Rey’s partner, but Sharon spoke up and said Chelsea could come. Sharon knew Chelsea and Rey were close friends, and she hoped Chelsea didn’t blame herself for his death. Sharon said Rey had a heart attack, and he didn’t die because he was on the road getting the tickets.

The service happened off screen. Everyone, minus Chance and Abby, returned to the cottage for refreshments. Chance had to work, and Abby went home to the baby. Chelsea declined the food, because she didn’t have an appetite. Sharon thanked everyone for coming. She loved the song Tessa sang and Noah’s photo montage. She’d always remember Chance’s lovely eulogy. She thought Rey would be proud of the memorial. Nick said Rey was determined to turn him into a soccer fan. He reminisced about their little arguments over whether soccer or American football was better.

Noah said Rey was easy to be around and treated him like a buddy, not his wife’s son. Noah said he went to the coffee shop after a date that went well, and Rey noticed Noah missed a button on his shirt. Noah was glad Rey pointed it out before Sharon or anyone else saw it. Sharon wondered who this woman that Noah was with. Faith hoped Rey knew what a part of the family he was. Sharon said everyone’s memories today proved that he did. Sharon asked if Chelsea wanted to share anything. Chelsea appreciated how wonderful Rey was with Connor. She got choked up and couldn’t say more.

Tessa appreciated Rey working behind the scenes to help her sister. She’d never be able to thank him. It made Mariah wonder how many people Rey helped that htey’d never know about. Sharon had received a lot of emails and notes from people Rey helped out. Some of the things Rey told her about, but he’d downplayed them, and other things she never heard about, because Rey wasn’t in it to get accolades.

Noah said he’d take Sharon to the airport, or fly with her if she wanted. She appreciated it, but she didn’t want him to take time off work. Chelsea asked where Sharon was going. Sharon said she was taking Rey to Miami, so he could be buried there, as his mother wanted. Mariah wanted to go to Miami too, but Sharon thought she should stay and work on the wedding. Nick also offered to go. Sharon said it wasn’t necessary, and he might have to deal with Diane. She appreciated everyone’s offers, but this was the last trip she’d ever take with Rey, and she’d prefer it if it was just the two of them. Everyone understood. Sharon was going to go rest before her trip to the airport. She thanked everyone again for their support and said she loved them all. This memorial was just what she needed.

Tessa and Mariah went home. Mariah thought Sharon was going to be okay, and she was a little less worried about her now. It made Mariah feel less guilty about going forward with the wedding planning. It was nice to have something to look forward to. They couldn’t wait to be each other’s wives. They kissed.

Chelsea went home to her suite. She said Rey was good to her son, and good to her too. So kind and generous. She thought that what they shared was a genuine bond that was stronger than friendship. She felt guilty saying that, but it was true. She wasn’t sure if it would’ve developed into something more. Chelsea would’ve felt bad if it had, since Sharon was a good woman who truly loved Rey, and Chelsea already put Sharon through a lot of pain. Chelsea said none of this mattered because Rey was gone. She felt angry and sad because she’d lost a potential future with a man that she could’ve loved. Once again, her happiness had been ripped away. She wondered when she’d get to win.

Sharon was in her living room by herself. She picked up a photo of herself and Rey, and she held it to her heart.

Allie: Meet my family?

Jack: They’re all here. Come on in.

Kyle: You’re not seriously suggesting I decide something this important with a flip of a coin, billy.

Billy: All I’m saying is that it’s your decision.

Ashley: You know my stance on diane.

Traci: Whatever you decide, we will support you.

Abby: Absolutely, kyle. You can count on us.

Jack: Everyone, I would love for you to meet allie nguyen. This is keemo’s daughter and my granddaughter.

Allie: Hi, everyone. How are you? It’s great to meet you guys. I’m so sorry. I feel like I have interrupted something.

Traci: No, no, please, please, don’t feel that way. We’re just so glad to finally meet you.

Jack: We were just talking about diane jenkins — or taylor jenson as you knew her. She was just here.

Allie: She’s in town, too?

Kyle: Yes, she is.

Allie: You must be kyle.

Kyle: I am. It’s nice to meet you, allie.

Allie: It’s good to meet you. It’s weird because, you know, you are the reason that taylor — or diane — brought jack and me together. I’m still trying to get my head around all of it.

Kyle: Me too. Look, I’m sorry, allie. We’re all in this awkward, emotional state right now, and it’s —

Abby: Welcome to genoa city.

[ Laughter ]

Billy: It’s not usually this intense.

Allie: I can’t imagine what you’re going through, all of you guys. I know this must be incredibly difficult. You know what? I think, um, this isn’t such a good time. I should probably —

Jack: No, no, not at all. Everyone’s been looking forward to meeting you.

Traci: We have.

Jack: You see? You can’t leave now.

Nate: We could alleviate that problem with a more efficient centralized distribution center.

Devon: Mm. Well, I love the sound of that. I do. These are really great ideas you have, man. I made the right choice picking you to be coo. I can tell this is more than just a job to you.

Nate: That’s right. It’s a whole new direction for me. I’m inspired. And I want you to know i appreciate your confidence in me. I know we’ve been through a lot these last few years, but I’m glad we were able to salvage our relationship.

Devon: Yeah, so am I, man. I really am. I think that all of us working together is proof that family and forgiveness is more important than anything.

Lily: Amen to that.

Sharon: Thank you so much for making this possible. We know that the short notice makes it difficult, and we just really appreciate it. Alright, we’ll see you soon.

Nick: Was that the church?

Sharon: Yep, everything is set up for the memorial service this afternoon.

Nick: Good.

Sharon: I’m really glad that I was able to pull this together so quickly so that we can say goodbye to rey here in his other home before his funeral in miami.

Nick: Yeah. I’m sorry I had to take off earlier and I wasn’t around to help.

Sharon: No, no apology necessary. I’m the one that told you you should go and talk to locke. And besides, noah, tessa, and mariah, they pitched in planning. What did locke say?

Nick: Don’t worry about it. Not gonna waste one more second thinking about him. There’s too much to do, so what’s left? What can I do to help?

Sharon: Um…well, I really want to keep this small and family-oriented, so I didn’t make any public announcement or anything. I just think if the event got too big, it would be difficult for me.

Nick: Well, I’m glad you’re being honest about what you need this day to mean to you. And I will do anything I can to ensure that your wishes are respected. But I’m really hoping there is one thing you’ll reconsider. (Dana)it’s very difficult for the family

Sharon: You want me to reconsider something about rey’s funeral?

Nick: Yeah. But not today’s service.

Sharon: What then?

Nick: Miami. I really think that you should take someone with you. You know, take one of the kids or I could go with you. I just don’t think you should be alone.

Sharon: Well, I appreciate that, but, um, I’m fine traveling by myself, and once the plane lands, I’m really not going to be alone. I’ll be with celeste and arturo, lola — all of rey’s family. They’re gonna be there with me. We’re gonna get each other through this. It won’t be easy, but I’m gonna be in good hands. You don’t have to worry about me.

Nick: Okay. If you change your mind or you get uncomfortable, then just say the word and I’ll get on that flight with you.

Sharon: I doubt I’ll change my mind.

Nick: Okay. Well, if while you’re down there, you decide you need me, then just call me. I’ll get on the first flight and get there as fast as I can.

Sharon: Thank you. It really means the world to me that you would do that.

Nick: Well, you know I mean it, 100%. I will do anything for you.

Sharon: Thank you so much, nick.

Lily: Yeah, I mean, this all sounds great, so I think we can run with a couple of these ideas and see what happens.

Nate: Thank you, lily.

Devon: Have we settled on how we want to launch the new company?

Lily: Well, I mean, I still think, you know, having a big party with a big media push is the way to go. I know that you were unenthusiastic about it, so have you changed your mind?

Devon: Yeah, I think I have. I think I’ve — I’ve come around to the idea. We’re gonna have a big party, it should be, you know, noisy and flashy and we should get as much attention as possible.

Lily: Wow, very unlike you.

Devon: Well, no, I understand what you mean by this being a big opportunity to show the world how important chancellor-winters is gonna be. So if we’re gonna compete with the big dogs, we need to go big. Right?

Nate: So we’re all in sync.

Lily: Yeah, look at that. It’s all coming together.

Nate: [ Chuckles ] Let’s hope we can agree on more important issues than “we should throw a party.”

[ Laughs ]

Lily: No, we will, we will. This is just the beginning.

Devon: Should billy be here for these discussions? ‘Cause he’s on the team, right?

Lily: He’s at an abbott family gathering, so I’ll fill him in later.

Devon: Was he okay during the last meeting we had?

Lily: Yeah, why?

Devon: He just seemed a little out of it.

Lily: What do you mean?

Devon: I don’t know, it was when you started talking about, like, legacies and families and chancellor-winters and just what it meant to us — he kind of checked out.

Nate: Yeah, I picked up on that, too. You think he’s uncomfortable being the non-family member at the top of a family company?

Allie: Well, it seems like you guys are going through a lot, and I — I really don’t want to add to any more distress.

Kyle: Allie, you being here means a lot to all of us, and I’m sorry, but we’re not gonna let you go. Whatever stress we’re dealing with right now, we’ll get through it. We just want you to feel welcome here.

Traci: I second that.

Allie: Thank you.

Abby: You’re not imposing. Please don’t think that.

Ashley: We were wondering when we would get to meet you.

Billy: And your timing is actually very efficient. You get to meet us all in one shot.

Abby: Although I’m sure that must be a bit overwhelming.

Allie: Yeah, yeah, it’s kind of a lot.

[ Laughter ] But, you know, you guys have all been so kind, and I really appreciate that.

Jack: Does that mean you’re staying?

Allie: Yes. Yes, I will.

Jack: Good! Okay, you can meet everybody. You’ve met kyle already. Let’s see, this is my sister ashley.

Allie: The chemist.

Ashley: That’s right.

Jack: My sister traci.

Allie: The writer.

Jack: This is my sister ashley’s daughter and my niece abby.

Allie: The restaurateur.

Jack: And this is my brother billy.

Allie: The —

Billy: Oh, you go ahead and say it — the good-looking one.

[ Laughter ]

Traci: Allie, we’re just so glad that you’re here. And on behalf of the whole family, we wanted to say how very sorry we were to hear about your father.

Allie: Thank you.

Ashley: I worked with keemo, and I got to know him quite well. What a talented, such a gifted chemist. And more importantly, what an amazing human being.

Allie: He was all of those things. And the best father I could’ve ever hoped for.

Billy: You know, allie, we’ve all gone through that kind of loss, so you have our condolences. Jack said that you were pretty tied up with your father’s estate and finishing up grad school. We weren’t sure when we were gonna be able to meet you. So what happened with your schedule that you were able to come out here to genoa city? Hi, I’m karen.

Lily: No, billy’s not uncomfortable working with us or in any situation. I mean, that’s his superpower.

Devon: I didn’t mean to make a big deal about it. It’s just something that i noticed.

Nate: Ditto.

Devon: Do you think that there’s any part of him that would rather be working with his family at jabot?

Lily: No, I mean, he left jabot because he was ready to get out of there, and he’s never looked back.

Devon: Okay. Yeah, I mean, you guys — you guys did some amazing work at chanccomm.

Lily: Yeah, we did. And look, I mean, you know, he’s excited about the merger. I know that. And maybe his name isn’t winters or chancellor or hamilton, but he’s 100% committed to the company.

Devon: That’s good to hear. And I’m not questioning his commitment at all. I just want to make sure that everything’s okay with him.

Lily: Yeah, everything’s fine.

Devon: Good.

Lily: So, um…are we good here?

Devon: Yeah, I think so. I think that’s it. I do have a meeting I need to get to, though.

Elena: Oh, hey.

Devon: Hey.

Lily: Hello.

Elena: So this is where the party’s at. You guys can just pretend I’m not here.

Nate: Well, that’s impossible. You’re the center of attention in any room you walk into.

Elena: Yeah? Even after a 12-hour shift at the hospital?

Nate: That’s when you’re the most gorgeous.

Lily: Well, that’s okay. We’re gonna leave so that you guys can keep talking about how gorgeous you both are.

Devon: I’ll walk you out.

Elena: Bye.

Devon: See ya.

Nate: Bye.

Elena: So? How did the meeting go? Did they like your idea?

Nate: Doesn’t even matter.

Elena: It doesn’t?

Nate: No, because all I care about is you right now.

Elena: [ Chuckles ]

Allie: Well, I’m not always the most spontaneous person, but jack told me the door was always open.

Jack: And I meant it.

Allie: And so I’ve been thinking a lot about your invitation. I had finished the semester. It was all really stressful. I had papers, finals, presentations, and so I just decided that I needed a break. And so I found a cheap flight, and, well, here I am.

Traci: Well, we’re so glad you got on that plane.

Allie: Thank you, traci.

Abby: You brought some luggage, so you must be planning on staying awhile. How long are you gonna be here?

Allie: Uh, well, at least overnight, and then I guess we’ll take it from there. Can anyone recommend a good hotel for me to go?

Traci: Oh, no, no, no, you have to stay here. We have so much room. And mrs. Martinez will take really good care of you.

Ashley: And we’re not always here like this at the same time. This is actually a rarity, so you’ll definitely have some privacy.

Allie: Thank you so much, but I really don’t want to impose on you guys.

Jack: No, you are not imposing. You are an abbott. This is the abbott house. You have to stay here.

Allie: That’s very generous of you. Thank you.

Traci: Good. Okay. Let’s get your things, and we’ll take you upstairs and find a room. And you can freshen up and I’ll show you around.

Allie: Thanks, traci.

Jack: Allie, I have to take off for a minute. I will be right back.

Allie: Okay.

Jack: One other thing.

Allie: Yes?

Jack: I’m real glad you’re here.

Allie: Thanks, jack.

Nick: Thank you.

Sharon: I just have a few things I need to wrap up here before I can leave town.

Nick: Okay, I’m just texting everyone, letting them know we’re gonna meet at the house before we go to the church.

Sharon: Okay, great. Thanks. I won’t be too long.

Nick: Okay.

Diane: Nick newman.

Nick: Sorry, hold on one second here. Alright, there —

Diane: Hello.

Nick: What is this? Who are you?

Diane: I can assure you I’m not a doppelganger and your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you.

Nick: Diane?

Diane: Yeah, it’s me.

Nick: No. No. No, no, no. It’s not — I mean, you’re —

Diane: Dead? Nope, I’m very much alive. And I’m back. I brought in ensure max protein,

Nick: This is impossible.

Diane: Oh, come on, stranger things have happened in genoa city.

Nick: What kind of game are you playing?

Diane: Relax, this has nothing to do with you.

Nick: Where have you been?

Diane: Um, I’ll give you the highlights. I wanted a fresh start, faked my death, moved to california, and now I am back and I want to make amends to my son.

Nick: [ Scoffs ] You devastated kyle. There’s no making amends for that.

Diane: I’m trying, nick. I know it’s going to be hard, but I’m not giving up.

Nick: What you did to your son, what you did to the entire abbott family —

Diane: I know, I just saw the whole family. It was not a warm and fuzzy reunion.

Nick: And that doesn’t include what you did to my family. My mother was charged with your murder — a murder that obviously didn’t happen.

Diane: Okay, okay. I mean, I’ve heard this from everyone since I got back. I was a terrible person. But I’ve changed.

Nick: You think anybody’s gonna believe that?

Diane: All that matters is that kyle believes it. I — I want a relationship with my son. We’ve had a couple of face-to-face meetings.

Nick: Kyle is in genoa city?

Diane: Yes, he’s here from italy. I’m sure he would’ve reached out, but, you know, he’s obviously been kind of busy. He had some things on his mind. I’m sure you understand.

Nick: I don’t understand any of this.

Diane: I told kyle that I am ready to prove that I am worthy of being his mother, of being in his life.

Nick: Oh, and how did he respond to that?

Diane: He’s considering it.

Nick: Well, if he was smart, he would stay as far away from you as possible. And, diane, let me tell you something, you’re gonna stay away from summer. Does she know about any of this?

Diane: I’m sure kyle has told her. Several people in town know, including your mother and father. I’m surprised they didn’t tell you.

Nick: Well, they know I have bigger issues going on right now, actual life-and-death issues, not just somebody who’s pretending to be dead.

Diane: Or maybe they’re hoping I’ll just leave quickly, never to be heard from again.

Nick: Well, if you were smart, that is exactly what you would do.

Diane: Is that a threat, nick?

Billy: [ Sighs ] Well, busy day at the abbott house.

Ashley: Mm-hmm.

Billy: First a woman who’s been dead for a handful of years shows up, and when she leaves, there’s a knock on the door and it’s jack’s long, lost granddaughter.

Ashley: I just hope kyle’s okay. He seems to have disappeared.

Billy: Yeah, I’m sure he needed some space from the crowd. I’m assuming that’s where jack went, because that’s the only reason he would leave with allie upstairs.

Abby: Well, aunt traci’s talking allie’s ear off. What a day.

Ashley: We were just saying that.

Abby: Yeah, it must be the universe’s way of balancing things out. Yes, everyone’s happy to meet allie, but first we had to endure the worst person in the world.

Ashley: I don’t think everybody feels diane is the worst person in the world.

Billy: Oh, are you talking about me?

Ashley: Yeah, because you told kyle he should give his mother the benefit of the doubt. What were you thinking?

Billy: I was thinking that, unlike you, I think people are capable of change.

Ashley: That’s not fair. I think people can change, and i understand why the concept is something close to your heart because of the great strides you’ve made in your own life. However, diane is in another league, billy, and I worry about kyle opening himself up to her.

Billy: Ashley, I think your heart’s in the right place and you’re entitled to your own opinion about diane, but her staying in town is up to one person only, and that is kyle. It’s not our decision.

Ashley: True, but kyle did ask for everybody’s perspective, including mine.

Billy: Yeah, he did, and we gave it to him. And I think that he listened to us, but at the end of the day, that is his mother. It’s not our vote, okay? And we need to be okay with the fact that it’s out of our hands. It’s kyle’s decision.

Jack: Kyle.

Kyle: What are you doing here?

Jack: Well, I saw you leave. I had a feeling you’d come here. I was concerned.

Kyle: There’s no reason to be. I’m sorry I snuck out like that. I’m still in my own head. I didn’t want to make allie’s arrival about me.

Jack: And you want to see your mother.

Kyle: I wanted to see how she was doing after being grilled by the abbotts.

Jack: You’re worried about her. I can assure you she can take care of herself. She always has.

Kyle: I know. That was pretty harsh back there.

Jack: She’s made a real impression on you, hasn’t she?

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Kyle: I’m still working through all this, dad. I’m just taking it one moment at a time.

Jack: I just want to help in any way I can.

Kyle: I know you do, and you’ve been very supportive, but I think I need to do this on my own.

Jack: Okay.

Kyle: Besides, you should be back at the house. It’s amazing that allie showed up, and she seemed kind of overwhelmed.

Jack: Yeah, I think that’s meeting the whole family all at once.

Kyle: I could tell you were happy she was here.

Jack: Yeah, I can’t deny, I’m thrilled.

Kyle: I hope she sticks around for a while.

Jack: Well, I think she’s at least for a couple of days. She’s staying at the house. That’ll give me some quality time with her. I have a feeling she came to town for a specific reason.

Kyle: You don’t think she just wanted to meet the family?

Jack: No, I think it’s more than that. But she’ll open up to me once the time is right.

Kyle: For what it’s worth, she seemed really sweet. I look forward to getting to know her.

Jack: Good. Allie’s in good hands right now. I’m concerned about you. Look, I want to be a moral support if I can. I won’t interfere in anything you and diane say to each other. I —

Kyle: Dad, I’m fine. Really. And honestly, I think I need to talk to my mother on my own. There are some things she deserves to hear from me in private.

Jack: Say no more. I’ll see you back home afterward?

Kyle: Definitely.

Nick: It’s not a threat, diane. I’m just letting you know there is nothing for you in genoa city anymore.

Diane: Don’t be so sure about that.

Nick: You left a wake of destruction, but we all managed to move on and repair the damage that you caused. You were gone. You should’ve stayed gone.

Diane: And if it weren’t for kyle, I would have. But after years of missing my son and working hard to become the kind of mother he deserved, I was finally ready to reach out. You know, kyle’s is the only opinion that matters to me. The rest of you can just think whatever you want.

Sharon: Okay, I’m ready. What is going on here? Diane?

Diane: Hello, sharon. You’re looking terrific. And, no, I’m not a ghost. I’m — I’m very real.

Sharon: But how?

Diane: Oh, and I heard about your loss the last time I was here, and I’m so sorry.

Nick: Okay, you don’t need this, sharon. Everyone’s waiting for you at the house. I’ll take you home.

Sharon: Yeah, we have to go, but still —

Nick: I’ll fill you in on the way. Let’s go.

Diane: I honestly didn’t come back to cause anyone pain.

Elena: Oh, that feels really good.

Nate: Tough day at work?

Elena: [ Sighs ] Tough day, tough night. Plus, it’s not the same anymore.

Nate: What do you mean?

Elena: You’re not there.

Nate: Mm.

Elena: So now I have to wait until I get home to fill you in on everything.

Nate: Well, other than that, has the vibe changed between you and the rest of the staff?

Elena: Yeah. I’m not getting that subtle judgment about dating the chief of surgery anymore.

Nate: Good. You don’t deserve any of that attitude.

Elena: [ Chuckles ]

Nate: Besides, your ability speaks for itself. You are a surgical warrior.

Elena: Mm, well, right now i feel a lot less like a warrior and more like a marshmallow thanks to your magical hands.

Nate: Are you headed upstairs for a nap?

Elena: I am certainly headed upstairs. And you’re coming with me.

Nate: Am I?

Elena: Yes, I just got a burst of energy.

Nate: Okay, what do you have in mind?

Elena: Well, I was thinking i would start with a bubble bath.

Billy: Hi.

Lily: Hey. Hello. Nice to be back, right?

Billy: Yeah, sure.

Lily: Just so happy the construction next door is done, so that way we don’t have to work out of the apartment anymore.

Billy: Well, working out of the apartment had its benefits. I liked the commute. I didn’t have to always wear pants. But, yeah, it’s good to be back. We’ve had a lot of success here.

Lily: You seem off. Something happen at the family meeting?

Billy: [ Exhales sharply ] It’s not enough that diane jenkins is alive, she’s in town.

Lily: What?

Billy: Yeah, she came by the abbott house at kyle’s request. I don’t know, I guess to plead her case to the abbotts. We were able to ask her whatever we wanted.

Lily: Wow, so I guess that’s why jack wanted you there. How did it go?

Billy: Well, she gave us her song and dance about how she’s a changed person. She made a pretty compelling case as to why she should be allowed back in kyle’s life. I told him that if I was in his shoes, that I would give her a second chance.

Lily: You did?

Billy: Yes, I did. Ashley had a different opinion.

Lily: Well, I mean, everyone’s gonna have a different opinion, but at the end of the day, it’s up to kyle.

Billy: I agree. That’s what I told him. It’s his decision. And then, after diane left —

Lily: Oh, wait, there’s more?

Billy: There’s more. Jack’s long, lost granddaughter showed up.

Lily: So you met her?

Billy: I did. She’s very nice. She seemed like a very kind person. I was mostly just happy for jack. You know, he was very surprised and over-the-moon.

Lily: Wow, well, that’s a lot to happen in one day. I’m exhausted just hearing about it.

Billy: How’d it go with nate and devon?

Lily: It was actually really good. Yeah, nate is fully invested, pitching ideas. You know, things are coming along. And devon’s even open now to the big launch party.

Billy: Oh, that’s great. Happy to hear that.

Lily: Yeah, so not as much drama as the day that you had, but…

Billy: Well, speaking of drama, um…there’s something else I need to tell you. Want more from your vitamin brand?

Billy: You were right about victoria’s reaction to my “grinning soul” podcast.

[ Sighs ] I ran into her on the way to the abbott house, and she questioned me. Of course I denied it, but she knows it’s me.

Lily: Right, of course she does.

Billy: And she knew that i was talking about ashland.

Lily: [ Sighs ] Well, you let your anger cloud your judgment.

Billy: And now you get to say “I told you so.”

Lily: No, I’m not gonna do that. I — I love that you have the “grinning soul” persona to kind of share things without using your name. You know, I think it’s a good way for you to express yourself. But you have to be careful. I don’t think that your stories should hit close to home.

Billy: I hear what you’re saying, but what is the point in having a free-wheeling, speak-truth-to-power platform if I’m not actually trying to make an impact on the world that we live in?

Lily: It’s about finding the right balance, finding that median point to where it’s both personal and universal.

Billy: You are so smart.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Billy: And I promise you that I will make more of an effort to do that moving forward.

Lily: Good.

Billy: But right now there’s something else on my mind.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

[ Knock on door ] It’s kyle. Hello?

[ Knock on door ]

Ashley: Hey. Did you go after kyle? I mean, that’s the only reason you left so abruptly, isn’t it?

Jack: Yeah, you’re right. I went to check on him. He’s fine. Where — where’d everybody go?

Ashley: Billy just took off.

Traci: Allie and abby are in the kitchen getting a bite to eat, and I think they’re hitting it off.

Jack: And did you get a chance to talk to allie for a little bit?

Traci: I did. She’s lovely.

Jack: And did you give her the whole abbott family history?

Traci: No. Just volumes one and two.

Jack: [ Laughs ]

Ashley: Jack, I like her. I mean, I know I had my reservations, but now that I’ve met her, I’d like to get to know her a little bit better.

Jack: Good, I’m glad to hear that.

Traci: Although I did get the sense that something is weighing on her.

Jack: Yeah, I got the same sense, but you know what? I’m not gonna push. I’m gonna wait till she’s ready to tell me.

Ashley: Well, whatever is going on with your granddaughter, traci and I were talking and we’re gonna leave the two of you alone so you can catch up.

Jack: Well, that’s very generous, thank you.

Traci: Oh, just one little word of advice before we go.

Jack: Okay.

Traci: [ Chuckles ] Jack, I know that you decided that you’re not going to push her for answers, but what if she’s feeling that she can’t burden you with her problems?

Jack: No, I’ve already told her. She can talk to me about anything, anytime.

Traci: Yes, but she’s young and just getting to know you, and maybe she feels like she can’t open up. I was just thinking, maybe she came here for you to lend her a shoulder to lean on without her having to ask. And tonight’s winning number, 43

Billy: [ Sighs ] There have been some questions about whether I am talking about someone or something specific. What I can say is that my musings — or my ramblings, as some people would call them — are of a universal nature. However, they are from my experiences as I try to share some thoughts to give you one person’s perspective on the world at large. It’s not always going to be pretty. In fact, at times, it will be downright ugly. I will change the names to protect the innocent.

[ Sighs ] But then again, who among us is innocent? I know I am not. And in saying that, I will be hard on myself. But I will be very hard on the ones that mean to take advantage of others. On the ones that mean harm to others. On the ones that have evil in their hearts, I promise you I will show them no mercy.

Nate: Poured you a glass of chardonnay.

Elena: Thank you.

Nate: It should help you relax.

Elena: Oh, I’m plenty relaxed, believe me.

Nate: Mm.

Elena: And yet, energetic. I guess you have that effect on me.

Nate: [ Chuckles ] I feel the same way. I was so excited about work and my meetings with devon and lily, then you walked in. I couldn’t focus on anything but you and these beautiful eyes.

Elena: Mm. Yeah, I could tell you had a great meeting because your energy was infectious.

Nate: It was great.

[ Chuckles ] I didn’t think I could get that worked up about business. It’s inspiring.

Elena: [ Chuckles ] Well, it helps when you’re working with the right people.

Nate: That’s true. There’s something magical about a family coming together to share a dream.

Sharon: I don’t understand how it’s even possible that diane is alive.

Nick: I don’t know the details, but I cannot believe she could show her face around here after everything she’s done to this family. But let’s not — let’s not worry about diane, alright? We’ve got far more important things to consider today.

Sharon: I know. I don’t have the bandwidth right now to give her another moment of my time, but…

Nick: But what?

Sharon: But I’m wondering how her sudden reappearance is affecting you. I mean, I’m rattled by seeing her. And you were a lot closer than I was. How are you doing?

Nick: Look, I’m fine. Let’s not worry about diane, alright? My only focus today is on you. Is there anything you need me to do for rey’s service?

Sharon: I know you’re worried about me and you want to do your part to help, but honestly, nick, just being here is enough. It’s everything. Thank you. I don’t know how I would get through this without you and the kids.

Nick: Well, we’re gonna be there for you today, every day after today. For whatever you need.

Diane: Kyle, what are you doing here?

Kyle: Um, waiting for you. Where have you been?

Diane: Just around town, visiting some of my old stomping grounds, trying to reconnect with genoa city.

Kyle: How’d that go?

Diane: Oh, it was — it was difficult. It’s going to be a long, hard process, but that’s to be expected. I — I feel better just seeing you, though. I’m glad you waited for me.

Kyle: Yeah, I didn’t know how’d you react. I wasn’t sure if you felt like i ambushed you back at the house. But, um…I’d understand if you’re angry with me.

Diane: Not at all. I know why you wanted me to face the family.

[ Chuckles ] I was able to explain myself to everybody at once, and they were able to respond and everything’s out in the open. It was — it was positive.

Kyle: I’m glad you see it like that.

Diane: Yeah, I can imagine there was a colorful conversation after I left.

Kyle: Yeah. That’s — that’s a fair description.

Diane: Yeah. So I guess there’s just one question now.

Kyle: What’s that?

Diane: Where does that leave the two of us? Is that what you came to tell me?

Kyle: This may be hard for you to hear. But I came to tell you…I’m going back to milan tonight.

Allie: You’re back.

Jack: Hey. Everyone’s been treating you well?

Allie: Everyone’s been great.

Jack: Well, you made a good first impression with the abbotts. Everyone is raving.

Abby: Where’s my mom and aunt traci?

Jack: Oh, they just stepped out for a second.

Abby: Well, I am really glad that you’re back, uncle jack, because I have to get going and I didn’t want to leave allie here all by herself. Allie, it was really nice to meet you. If you need anything at all, just give me a call.

Allie: Thanks, abby, for everything.

Jack: Thanks, abby. You’re the best.

Abby: Bye.

Jack: So did you get all settled in upstairs?

Allie: I did. Traci was a big help. Everyone has been really great, jack. Just like you said.

Jack: And your room is okay?

Allie: Yeah, the room is lovely. I mean, the house is just beautiful, so…

Jack: I know this is all a bit overwhelming, but everyone is genuinely happy to meet you, and they all want you to feel at home here.

Allie: [ Sighs ] Your family has been nothing but kind and warm and generous to me.

Jack: They’re your family, too, allie.

Allie: [ Crying ]

Victor: Well, I’m delighted to hear that victoria intends to restore the company’s original name.

Nikki: Yes, newman enterprises. Has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?

Victor: Hmm? Now, do you want me to speed that process along? I can do it from the pr side of things.

Nikki: I’ll mention it to my co-ceo.

Victor: Okay.

Nikki: There’s something else we need to discuss with victoria and the rest of the family, too, soon.

Victor: You mean diane jenkins?

Nikki: Jack has managed to keep it quiet up to now, but who knows how long that will last?

Victor: I told diane jenkins if she knows what’s good for her, she’ll get out of town as quickly as she can, because she’s not welcome here.

Nikki: Well, let’s hope that she listened enough to stay away from our family. Lord knows victoria has enough to deal with right now.

Victor: Yeah. My god, yes.

[ Sighs ]

Billy: Hey! You here for an afternoon caffeine fix?

Victoria: Yeah, you got it. You care to join me?

Billy: I would love to, but jack summoned us to the abbott family house for a meeting.

Victoria: Are you the designated treat bearer?

Billy: [ Chuckles ] No, not exactly. This is my apology. I’m gonna be late ’cause I had a meeting at chancellor.

Victoria: Well, any excuse for an afternoon sugar fix, i guess.

Billy: That’s right. You know me well.

Victoria: Well, we’ll talk another time, then.

Billy: Is there something in particular you wanted to talk about? Are the kids alright?

Victoria: Oh, johnny and katie are fine.

Billy: So what’s up?

Victoria: Oh, it’s nothing. I — I just heard this very interesting podcast that was produced by your company.

Billy: Oh, good. Well, that’s great. We got a bunch of new series coming out. There was that one that they talk about fermenting your own food. It’s got an unbelievable number of unique listens.

Victoria: No, actually, it wasn’t a how-to. It was more personal. It had the strangest name — “the grinning soul.”

Billy: Right, yeah. Yeah, I talked to that guy after we signed him. I think he’s out of california. He’s got an interesting take on the world.

Victoria: He had an even more interesting take on my soon-to-be ex-husband.

Jack: Can I get you some water, diane? You’re looking rather pale.

Diane: Oh, no, I’m fine. Just caught off guard.

Kyle: Yeah, maybe I should’ve warned you about what I had in mind before I asked you here.

Diane: Oh, no, I-I-i understand why you didn’t, and it’s okay. I knew I was going to have to face your family at some point when I came back to genoa city. I just hadn’t imagined doing it all at once with everyone here. But it’s certainly efficient this way.

Kyle: Okay. Let’s get to it.

Diane: So, ladies, I’ve kept track of your many accomplishments over the years, enough to know that you’re leading happy and successful lives.

Abby: No thanks to you.

Ashley: If you had your way, we’d be in prison right now, serving time for a murder that you faked.

Diane: I wouldn’t have allowed that to happen.

Ashley: Oh, really? You would’ve come to our rescue. Before your “death,” you were blackmailing my daughter and me, threatening to have us arrested.

Traci: Um…I’m sure that diane knows how we all feel about the terrible things she did in the past. But that’s not why kyle brought us here today, to re-litigate it all.

Diane: Thank you, traci. As I understand it, I’m here to answer and all questions about why I ran away, what I’ve been doing since then, and what my intentions are now. And that is perfectly alright with me.

Abby: So you’re looking forward to this.

Diane: Yes, if it’ll convince you that I really have changed. Absolutely. I’m strong enough to handle anything you dish out. So don’t hold back. Fire away.

Ashley: I have a question. Why should we believe one word that comes out of your mouth?

provided by…

Billy: I listened to the first podcast of “the grinning soul.” To me, it sounded like a generic diatribe on the abuse of power.

Victoria: There was a detailed description of a power broker in particular. A greedy mogul with no moral compass who betrayed the woman that he loved by lying to her about being sick. Gee, I wonder who that could be.

Billy: Oh, come on, victoria. Let’s be honest, that could be any number of people besides ashland. Maybe he was talking about a tech giant in silicon valley.

Victoria: Give me a break, billy. You can change your voice, but i know how you talk. I know the cadence of your speech. I know those phrases that you use. You’re the host. Admit it.

Billy: [ Laughs ] Oh, come on, that’s just — that’s hilarious.

Victoria: It’s not meant to be a joke.

Billy: Why would I do that? I already have a podcast. I’m already standing on a soapbox. I don’t need to come up with some silly name like “the grinning soul.”

Victoria: It’s very much you, actually.

Billy: Really?

Victoria: “Soul” promises a certain level of depth and introspection, and “grinning” undercuts that with sarcasm and self-deprecation.

Billy: And here I thought it would look good on a t-shirt.

Victoria: Look, when are you gonna stop sticking your nose where it doesn’t belong? I’m serious, billy. When are you gonna leave me in peace?

Billy: Okay, victoria —

Victoria: No, the last time this happened, you lost chanccomm. When are you gonna learn your lesson?

Billy: Okay —

Victoria: What is it gonna take?

Billy: Hold on a second. Alright? Let’s just stop and take a look at the big picture for one second.

Victoria: And what is that in your mind?

Billy: If this “grinning soul” person was actually talking about your ex, would you have a problem with that?

Victor: Diane jenkins better not harass victoria in any way. Otherwise, she’s gonna have to deal with me.

Nikki: Oh, I didn’t mean to imply that. Diane has no reason to contact her. And victoria doesn’t get out much these days anyway. She basically goes from home to the office and back, so I don’t think there’s much chance of her running into diane.

Victor: That reminds me, i have to tell adam not to mention anything about this to his sister.

Nikki: How did he find out?

Victor: I told him. I wanted to warn him. He and diane jenkins were co-conspirators in the day.

Nikki: Have you told anybody else? Nicholas, abby?

Victor: No, no. They’ll all have the same reaction. They’ll be stunned that she’s back in town. She wouldn’t get a warm welcome from anyone.

Kyle: I can see how upset you are, and I’m sorry. Look, I know you said you were okay with this, but it’s obviously difficult for you to see my mother again, so if you just want to forget the whole thing —

Diane: Kyle, I really hope you won’t do that, for your sake. I mean, surely they must see how much you need this.

Abby: Are you serious? After everything you put kyle through, you’re trying to be his protector? We are his family. We have been there for him. Where do you get off telling him what he needs?

Jack: It seems to me you have the most to benefit from this little exercise.

Diane: Good point. But more than anything, I want to prove to my son that I’m sincere, and this is the opportunity he’s given me to do that. It — it might be the only one I have. So if you need to lash out at me or go over my sordid history point by point, then that’s what we’ll do. It might even be helpful for you.

Ashley: Kyle, I hope you’re taking notes and realizing what she’s doing. Diane here is trying to set the agenda. She’s trying to manage us. Nice choice. That little quiver in your voice — you know, how brave you are to be facing us all when actually you know you don’t have any other choice. I mean, you could turn and walk out the door, but you would never do that because you’ve got too much riding on this.

Diane: I am not manipulating my son. I’ve been completely open with him. I don’t want anything from kyle, except his forgiveness.

Ashley: Not yet, you don’T.

Diane: [ Scoffs ]

Traci: I think we should hear diane out, like we told kyle we would.

Abby: What?

Traci: Oh, abby, don’t get me wrong. I am as skeptical as you are about all of this, but isn’t that the point? We told kyle we would listen to diane’s story, and if it doesn’t ring true, we will know it and we can call her out then.

Kyle: It’s up to you. I want you to be okay with this.

Ashley: By all means.

Jack: Alright, diane, you have the floor. Give it your best shot. With golo, I’ve lost 13 inches in my waist.

Nikki: I assume the abbotts will let abby know about diane’s return, although for her sake, i wish she’d never have to know. And we’re also going to have to tell nicholas so he’s not blind-sided. I know it would bother him if he heard about diane from someone else, especially since you told adam.

Victor: That’s different.

Nikki: How is that different?

Victor: Sweetheart, adam was involved with her as a co-conspirator. I warned him to stay the hell away from that woman, okay? Nicholas can’t stand her. He couldn’t stand her ever since he learned how much damage she’s done to our family, especially to you.

Nikki: There was nothing she wouldn’t stoop to. Just when you thought she was at her lowest, she would find a way.

Victor: Somehow, I doubt that has changed.

Diane: Before I get into the details of my life in la, I just want to say something.

Ashley: Okay, so you’re gonna tell us your story, and now you’re stalling.

Diane: I just want you to know that I understand why you’re suspicious. I used to see myself the same way, as someone who was vindictive and self-obsessed and incapable of change. I had — I had sunk too low. I was too set in my ways.

Abby: Hmm. And then a miracle happened, some sort of great epiphany?

Diane: [ Scoffs ] No, nothing so dramatic. It just gradually became clear that I was lying to myself, that this whole notion that i couldn’t change was just an excuse, it was permission I was giving myself not to do the hard work that it would take to become a better person, a decent human being.

Ashley: That’s a pretty low bar.

Traci: Well, you have to start somewhere.

Diane: That’s right. It’s kind of pathetic. Then I realized that that attitude was what was costing me any chance of reuniting with kyle. And I realized that I had to at least redeem myself, that I had to try to earn some scrap of self-respect, something that i had never had.

Abby: Interesting, because, as I recall, you’ve always had a very high opinion of yourself.

Ashley: True. Your needs always took higher priority over anybody else’S.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Jack: An woe be unto anyone who got in your way.

Diane: Hmm, that was arrogance, self-entitlement, not self-respect. It took me years to learn the difference.

Traci: So these revelations, did you come to them all by yourself?

Diane: [ Scoffs ] Oh, no, no, no, no. I had plenty of help. Um…after a few false starts, i found an amazing therapist. Actually, a bad-ass truth-teller who made me face what an utter disaster my life had become. She forced me to be realistic about what it would take for me to turn things around for myself.

Kyle: This therapist, was she in favor of you coming back to genoa city?

Diane: Well, there were risks involved, which we discussed at length.

Ashley: That would be a no.

Jack: Hard to imagine any reputable therapist would go along with your plan to anonymously lure me to la, use my granddaughter as a means to get to me.

Diane: Jack, I explained my intentions.

Ashley: We’ve heard all your explanations. We’re not buying them.

Abby: Mom’s right. How do we know that you’re not lying through your teeth about going to therapy? And that you’re just telling kyle what you think he needs to hear?

Victoria: [ Sighs ] I thought you had a meeting to get to with your family.

Billy: Well, I see, I ask you a question, you don’t want to talk anymore? No, go ahead, victoria. I will make some time. I would love to hear your answer. What do you care if some random podcaster is talking about ashland? Because he is a monster, he did abuse power. He committed fraud by trying to get his hands on newman enterprises, but he won’t face any legal consequences because he didn’t really break the law. But don’t you think it’s fair for the public to actually hear all that, to hear his name being called out?

Victoria: Please don’t pretend like you’re doing this for my sake. I am a private person and you are exploiting my private pain for your overblown ego.

Billy: Oh —

Victoria: So much for your promises to be there for me. Now I know how much those are worth.

Trelegy for copd.

Victor: Thank you. Very kind of you. Well, my baby, I paid the check.

Nikki: Thank you, darling. What’s in the bag?

Victor: I’ll tell you. It’s your favorite dessert for later.

Nikki: Oh, so I can get the sour taste of diane jenkins out of my mouth?

Victor: I thought you had put her out of your mind already.

Nikki: Well, actually, I had. I was thinking about ashland and his not-so-subtle attempt to impress victoria. Offering to donate half of what you paid him off to new hope. I mean, talk about dramatic gesture.

Victor: $250 million? You serious? He’s gonna pay that to nick as his charity? That boy can do a lot of good with that. You know why he’s doing it, right?

Nikki: Of course.

Victor: He’s trying to buy victoria’s forgiveness.

Nikki: Well, she swears that it will not sway her, but what concerns me is he’s obviously not giving up on the idea of getting her back. And no good can come from that.

Victor: [ Exhales sharply ] To be honest with you, I’m concerned. Hopefully victoria will make it clear to him that she is through with him, wants nothing to do with him. I want that bastard to get out of town.

Nikki: We should be so lucky.

Billy: I had a run-in today with a man who shall remain nameless, a mogul who seemingly has everything and yet he still wants more and more. And he lies and manipulates to get it. This guy takes and takes until he sucks everyone around him dry, as if it’s gonna make him feel more powerful. I mean, if you ask me, it’s like he doesn’t trust his own business acumen so he has to lie and deceive to get his upper hand, causing pain to everyone close to him.

Abby: Exactly how long have you been in therapy, diane? When did you start?

Traci: I would like to know that, too.

Ashley: Are you still seeing this psychologist, social worker?

Diane: Psychologist. And, no, not since I left la to travel here, but…

Abby: I would love to see her credentials. Is she licensed?

Diane: Of course.

Ashley: What’s wrong with phone sessions or video sessions? I mean, you don’t have to stop seeing a shrink just because you’re on the road.

Abby: Yeah, especially since she’s helped you out so much.

Ashley: Mm-hmm.

Jack: That is a fair point.

Kyle: Are you gonna keep seeing her once things settle down for you?

Diane: Oh, absolutely.

Traci: I don’t remember hearing you answer abby’s last couple of questions. How long have you been seeing the psychologist, diane?

Diane: Uh, six years, give or take.

Abby: Which is it, “give” or “take”?

Diane: I mean, if you want exact dates —

Ashley: And when did it go from you arguing with this person to you realizing you needed real help?

Diane: Well, things really got rolling with my psychologist about four and a half years ago.

Abby: [ Laughs ] Okay, so you expect us to believe that you went from this evil manipulator, someone who got off on making her enemies’ lives miserable, to some totally healed, ethical grown-up with no sociopathic tendencies…

Ashley: In four and a half years?

Abby: That’s record time.

Jack: It does sound like a bit of a stretch.

Diane: You asked, I answered. I can’t give you an exact timeline for when my perspective changed. As I said, it was a gradual process.

Ashley: I’d like to see your bank statements.

Diane: [ Chuckles ]

Ashley: I think that would put everything into focus.

Diane: Okay. You’re welcome to take a look at my finances. Um, I’m not wealthy, but I can take care of myself. I just bought a home in la.

Jack: Oh, yes, keemo’s house.

Ashley: A pretext for getting close to allie.

Diane: Alright, well, the point is that I’m self-sufficient. I have a career, friends, a life in california. I didn’t come here out of desperation. I came here because I’m finally strong enough to face the backlash that I knew would be waiting for me. And…because after all these years, I — I finally feel that I have something worthwhile to offer my son.

[ Door opens ]

Billy: Hey, sorry I’m late. I got caught up at work, and then I stopped to get some — whoa.

Diane: Hello, billy. You’re looking well.

Billy: And you’re looking alive.

Diane: Thanks, I think.

Kyle: We’re giving her a chance to make her case as to why she should be allowed back into our lives.

Billy: And this is the jury, huh? Tough crowd.

Traci: Diane was just telling us how she’s rehabilitated herself in los angeles.

Billy: Well, I’m sorry i missed that part of the discussion. You’ll have to fill me in, trace. Please, sorry to interrupt. Carry on.

Diane: I — I don’t know how much more there is to say. I mean, at a certain point, you are all going to have to decide whether or not you believe redemption is possible. Not just for me, but for anyone.

[ Exhales sharply ] Billy, I would think you do, based on the podcast that I’ve heard you do and how you’ve made changes in your life.

Billy: Look at that, I’ve doubled my audience. There’s now you and traci. That’s good, right?

Diane: And the two of you, you’ve both found it in your hearts to forgive victor and phyllis — people who have hurt you deeply. And — and, traci, I mean, the characters in your novels have all learned and grown from their mistakes, so surely you must think that people are capable of that. And you, you’re a new mother to a little boy. I can promise you that I feel the same profound love for kyle that you do for dominic. Have I failed him? Yes. Horribly. And all I want is a chance to try to make that up to him, to be the mother that he deserves. I mean, why would any of you stand in the way of me doing that?

Itchy?

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

I’ve got moderate to severe

plaque psoriasis.

Traci: I am just curious, how do you see this going forward, this second chance with kyle? How does that look to you in your mind?

Diane: Well, I’m — I’m in no position to make any demands. I would just take what I can get. No, no, I didn’t mean it — I’m not talking about things. I just mean that I would welcome any of kyle’s time and attention that he could spare. You know, if it’s just the occasional phone call to catch up every so often or — or a christmas card once a year, it’s — it’s up to him. I would follow his lead.

Jack: You really expect us to believe you would settle for that?

Diane: I’ve gone so many years without any contact with my son at all. That just being able to look him in the eye and tell him how much I love him and miss him… anything else would be a gift.

Billy: Well, so far, it sounds like you’re telling us what you would settle for, but we haven’t heard what you actually want. In your heart of hearts, what do you — what do you want?

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Kyle: She already told me that. She wants to be a part of my life.

Abby: Are you talking about following kyle to italy?

Diane: Well, if kyle were comfortable with that, that would be amazing.

Ashley: Here we go.

Diane: My italian’s kind of rusty, but harrison and I could practice together.

Ashley: And what if kyle and summer decide to move back to genoa city?

Diane: Then I would plan accordingly.

Ashley: Have you really thought this through? Are you aware that the newmans hate you? Literally every single one of them hates you.

Diane: It doesn’t have to be an issue. I would simply avoid them. I’ve gotten used to living a quiet life.

Abby: Okay, now that I don’t believe.

Diane: Well, it’s true, abby. Like I said, I’m a different person. Just like you’re not going around naked on horseback anymore. Anyway, there’s always been tension between the abbotts and the newmans. That’s just the way it is.

Abby: Not so much anymore.

Billy: Yeah, fyi, the landscape has changed a little bit since you were last here. With the exception of me and victor and adam and myself and at times victoria and myself — other than that, everyone else gets along pretty well.

Traci: And I give abby a lot of credit for that. She worked very hard to bring the two families back together.

Billy: Yeah, my kids are part of both families. Kyle and summer are married. It’s not the two feuding camps anymore.

Ashley: Which means you wouldn’t have the opportunity to pit the families against each other, which used to be obviously one of your favorite tactics.

Diane: I have no desire to cause any problems. If the newmans give me a hard time, I will deal with it. It’d be worth it. And besides, this is all hypothetical, because kyle lives in italy and he hasn’t even agreed to anything.

[ Exhales sharply ] I hope you know, kyle, that i would face anything and I would make whatever sacrifices were necessary just to be close to you again. Just being in the same room with you has given me joy. I think I’ve said enough for now. I am gonna give you time to mull over what I’ve said. Thank you for giving me this chance.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] So…what do you think?

Victoria: Run it by the analysts and then get back to me. Thank you. Hi.

Nikki: Hey.

Victoria: How was lunch?

Nikki: Very nice.

Victoria: That’s great.

Victor: Well, I’m sorry to keep your co-ceo away for so long.

Victoria: Oh, no, it’s not a problem. We all have to eat, right? Why don’t you sit down? Join me.

Nikki: So what did you do for lunch?

Victoria: Oh, I haven’t really quite gotten around to it yet, but I did stop off and get some coffee earlier.

Victor: We could have brought you some lunch, you know, or you could have joined us.

Victoria: You wouldn’t have wanted me at lunch. Then you wouldn’t have been able to spend the entire meal discussing your concerns for me.

Nikki: Oh, now. Your name might have come up.

Victor: Only briefly.

Victoria: Uh-huh.

Victor: Mm-hmm.

Nikki: Well, our other children’s names as well, and some of the grandchildren. We can’t help it if our family is our favorite topic of…

Victoria: Favorite topic of what?

Nikki: Conversation. I just noticed that you took your necklace off. Good for you.

Victor: What did I miss? What’s the #1 retinol brand

Nikki: Ashland gave her a necklace for valentine’s day in the shape of a “v” for victoria. Do you remember that? She was wearing it earlier, and now she’s not.

Victoria: [ Sighs ]

Victor: Sweetheart, if that is a gift from that fraud, then why the hell are you wearing it?

Victoria: Daddy, please don’t read too much into it. It’s just a piece of jewelry, nothing more.

Nikki: I thought it might be because of ashland’s blatant attempt to buy your forgiveness by donating money to new hope.

Victoria: He hasn’t even gotten in touch with me about that yet, which is a good thing because it would be a waste of time for both of us. Speaking of gifts, daddy, i wanted to say thank you very much for replacing my portrait. That was very sweet of you.

Victor: I’m glad you like it.

Victoria: I love it. I will treasure it always. And also, I want to thank you for being so positive and supportive of me appointing mom as co-ceo.

Victor: Well, I think you and your mother will make a hell of a team, you know.

Victoria: I think so, too. I’m aware that you thought i would come around on the idea of promoting adam.

Victor: Well, my sweetheart, I still am hoping that you and adam will get along better. I think he has a lot to contribute. But it would’ve been premature to appoint him as co-ceo of the company now.

Victoria: I’m very glad you recognize that.

Victor: And I want to thank you for making the company what it is today. You’ve made it bigger and stronger than it was a year ago, in spite of that bastard locke.

Nikki: Amen.

Victor: And having said that, I think that you and your mother will make, as I said, a hell of a team. And the sky’s the limit.

Ashley: Kyle, I’m really sorry, honey, but I think your instincts were right earlier when you said you weren’t sure if diane’s motives were clear and if maybe she was just giving you a bunch of rehearsed lines. I think that’s exactly what we saw — a performance. It was an excellent performance because she’s had so much time to hone her craft, but not a bit sincere.

Traci: Oh, I think that might be going just a little bit far, because every time she looked at you and every time she talked about how overjoyed she would be to be a part of your life again, I really think she meant it.

Jack: Traci, you’re talking about something that hasn’t changed. Diane has always loved kyle. That’s not the issue.

Kyle: Dad’s right. I need help figuring out whether I can trust the rest of what she says. I mean, she came across as mature and calm, someone who’s grown as a person.

Abby: But what if you’re wrong?

Kyle: Is that what you think?

Abby: Honestly, I — I can’t be objective. I mean, just the sound of her voice…

Ashley: I know, it’s like nails on a chalkboard.

Abby: And the one thing that was a big red flag to me was that she brought up dominic. Seemed very calculated, like the old diane.

Ashley: True. What about you, billy? You’ve been very quiet.

Billy: Just didn’t think that you needed me to weigh in since I wasn’t here for the first part of the interrogation.

Kyle: I’d still like to hear what you have to say.

Billy: Why is that? You think I have some special insight because I’m a reformed screw-up?

Kyle: Something like that.

Billy: Look…

[ Sighs ] She sounded convincing to me. Like she knew where she went wrong and she’s really trying to make a change. I think I would probably give her another chance. Then again, I’m the king of second, third, 25th chances, so maybe I’m a little biased.

Kyle: I mean, aside from what you said before, traci, about my mother loving me, did she sound credible to you?

Traci: [ Sighs ] Do you mean do I think you can trust her implicitly?

Abby: God, no.

Traci: I think that you need to be really wary about her claim that she’s completely rehabilitated. I mean, diane may believe that herself, but there’s no way we can prove it. There’s no way we can know for sure.

Ashley: Only by observing her carefully over an extended period of time. I think we should avoid her altogether. That is my vote.

Kyle: Okay. So we have two who are opposed and two who slightly think it’s worth the risk. That leaves you, dad. Where do you stand? With depression, you just feel…blah.

Victoria: I believe that we have a 3:00 meeting.

Nikki: Yes, we do, with pr to talk about the timetable for restoring the corporate id “newman enterprises.”

Victor: Listen, killing newman/locke can’t happen soon enough.

Victoria: And I have just enough time to grab a quick bite before that meeting.

Nikki: Oh, honey, you go. I’ll meet you there.

Victoria: Alright, I’ll see you alter. I love you.

Victor: I love you, okay? She seems happy.

Nikki: Yes, she does.

Victor: I mean, considering what she has gone through, i think it’s amazing.

Nikki: Did you think she would fall apart?

Victor: Well, if she had, i wouldn’t have blamed her. But she handled it very well so far.

Nikki: Yes, she has.

Victor: You know, our girl is much stronger than I realized.

Nikki: Well, having your support has really helped her. That and knowing that the family stands behind her, and really, I mean, during the day, she can lose herself while she’s at work, anyway.

Victor: Do you think it’s the same when she goes home alone at night to that big, empty house?

Nikki: I don’t know. I do know that whether she lets us see it or not, she is heartbroken. She adored ashland — at least the man she thought he was before we found out what a complete fraud he is.

Victor: That’s putting it mildly.

Nikki: Victoria may try to convince us and herself that she’s moved on, but she’s still grieving that loss.

Victor: [ Sighs ]

Jack: Pretty much everything that diane said I have heard before. Her story is consistent, which either means, as ashley suspects, it’s well-rehearsed or it’s the truth. And traci’s right — there’s no way of knowing, at least not right now.

Kyle: But you do have an opinion, though. But it’s like you’ve been saying all along, you don’t want to influence my decision.

Jack: You just hit on the key. It is your decision. You’re gonna have to weight everything that you’ve heard and decide just how much you can live with. And I will support whatever decision you make.

Traci: And there’s no rush. You take as much time as you need.

Ashley: Please don’t let diane make you feel guilty and do not let her run the show.

Abby: I second that. And at the end of the day, you have to be comfortable with whatever you decide.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] I’m still not sure what I’m gonna do.

Billy: You could always flip a coin.

Traci: [ Sighs ]

[ Doorbell rings ]

Jack: I’ll get that. Wow, what a surprise.

Allie: Sorry to just show up like this. I didn’t call ahead because i thought — well, I thought i might chicken out before i actually got here. Is it a problem? Bad timing?

Jack: No, your timing is excellent. Come in and meet your family.

Y&R Article: Should Characters Be Brought Back From the Dead?

Young and the Restless Opinion Article

Susan Walters plays Diane on "Young and The Restless" on CBS

Article by Suzanne 5/10/22

The biggest news lately on the show is the return of Diane Jenkins, Jack’s ex-wife and father of Kyle, who was thought to be dead.  At first, the story seemed to be about Jack finding his long-lost son, Keemo, and then Keemo’s daughter, Allie.  They sure surprised us by having that springboard into the DIANE’S ALIVE! story. (See what they did there?)

Of course, on soaps (as the saying goes) no one is really dead. It’s a cliché, really, so it’s hardly a big surprise when anyone comes back. However, having Diane return fixes one of the mistakes they made back in 2012 when Nikki and Deacon both confessed to murdering Diane. They bashed her head in many times, and her body was found. The writers seemed to be saying, “Yes, she’s really dead! Dead, dead, dead!”

Deacon went to jail for awhile for that. He’s over on B&B now, so maybe someone will mention to him that she’s alive, and they can stop calling him an ex-con!  At any rate, it’s usually a bad idea to kill off a major character, even one like Diane who seems to have few redeeming qualities. She was a trouble-maker, but not evil, like, for instance, David Kimble. He deserved to die, and no one was unhappy to see him go.

Diane spent most of her time on Y&R sleeping around, stealing husbands and trying to get money and fame from Jack and Victor, among others. Susan Walters is an amazing actress who managed to play Diane well, to make her seem more human than the writing reflected. It’s great to have her back.  When her character was “murdered,” she was played by Maura West, who had previously played Carly on “As The World Turns” and now plays Ava on “General Hospital“.  She’s another fabulous actress.

Now we’re supposed to believe that Diane faked her death and has been alive all this time. Also, she has supposedly changed and gotten therapy. If they’re going to make her into a better person now, that would be boring, so I hope it’s not true.

Of course, like a lot of stories in Soapland, it makes little sense. She not only died, but there was a body.  Whose body was that if not Diane’s? Y&R is not like GH or “Days of Our Lives“. There’s no Helena Cassadine or Dr. Rolf there to give people magical drugs to make them seem dead, so it strains credulity. I wonder if they will even address this point?  This is why it’s a bad idea to kill off major characters because later on you have to really jump through illogical hoops to bring them back. Leaving town or going to jail is a much better way to get rid of them, IMHO. I’m sure the writers would argue that killing off a character makes for great drama and gives them more story to work with. However, it’s happened so often now that it’s no longer such great story. It’s not even very surprising.  Kill off someone who’s been there for 30 or 40 years (Nikki, Victor, Jack, Lauren et al.) and maybe then it would be surprising. Diane died after pissing everyone off, and everyone threatened her, so it was pretty obvious that she would die.

I was not very happy when they killed off Cassie on Y&R because it was just too sad (and had already been done with better effect on GH).  Although I love the actress who played her, bringing her back as Cassie’s twin sister Mariah later on was pretty ridiculous. This is why soaps get such a bad rap. Stories like this would rarely fly on primetime or in movies, unless it happened in a comedy or scifi. I hate when people say, “It’s just a soap.” Stories like this are why they say that.  Then people wonder why the poor soaps actors are unable to further their careers (or have to start all over again) when they’re trying to get roles elsewhere. It’s really unfair because the acting is usually really good on soaps (aside from a few newbies).   It’s really the writers and producers who should have trouble getting more work outside soaps if you ask me. They just keep throwing up the same crap on our screens over and over. I’m sure the Y&R writers thought that bringing Diane back was a brilliant idea.

I hope that they turn Diane’s return into more than just the usual story about how she’s just coming back to cause more trouble. It would be nice to see something unusual and interesting happen for her, Jack and Kyle (and Summer, who’s returning). As I said, nobody wants to see her be a goody-two-shoes, either.

How about some original and unusual ideas? The idea to have lesbians on Y&R was a great one. The writing of the two characters has been hit-and-miss, but the idea was great.  I hope the writers do drag more of the show into the 21st century.  I’m not really in favor of having Kevin suddenly becoming gay because I hate when they change history, but if it will keep the actor happy, maybe they should. Then he won’t keep running over to Days.  Or if you must use a soap trope, how about having Kevin learn that he has a twin gay brother? Maybe this Diane is not the real Diane, but the mother of the twins.  Now that would be exciting!

Y&R Update Tuesday May 10 2022

Young & The Restless Update

Y&R logo

Recap written by Christine

Allie looked a bit nervous after Jack told her to come in and meet her family. He told her everyone was here, and with a reassuring smile, he motioned her into the house. The rest of the Abbotts didn’t notice they had company, so their emotional discussion continued. Kyle scoffed at Billy was suggesting he make such a serious choice using a coin flip. All Billy meant was that it was Kyle’s decision. “You know my stance on Diane,” Ashley added. Traci and Abby made it clear that they’d support Kyle no matter what he chose. Jack introduced everyone to Allie, Keemo’s daughter and his granddaughter. Allie apologized for interrupting something. They assured her it was fine. Traci said they were happy to meet Allie. Jack explained that they were discussing Diane, or Taylor, as Allie knew her. Allie spoke to Kyle and said it was weird because he was the reason Diane brought Allie and Jack together.

Kyle apologized to Allie because she was meeting them when they were in an emotionally charged state. Billy promised it wasn’t usually this intense. Allie couldn’t imagine what they were all going through, and she was sure it must be difficult. She decided this wasn’t a good time for a visit, but Jack said they’d all been looking forward to meeting her, so she couldn’t leave now. Allie didn’t want to add to all their stress. Kyle gently said that Allie being here meant a lot to them, and he was sorry, but they weren’t going to let her go. Everyone echoed the sentiment. Abby assumed it must be overwhelming for Allie to meet them all in one shot. She agreed, but she said they’d all been so kind. Jack introduced Allie to everyone one by one, and she listed off all their jobs, as she met them (the chemist, the author, the restaurateur). She didn’t know how to sum Billy up, and he told her she could say it – he was the good looking one.

Traci told Allie that they were all sorry about her father. Ashley said she’d worked with Keemo, and he was a gifted chemist and an amazing human being. Allie said Keemo was all those things and the best father she could’ve hoped for. Billy said they’d all been through that kind of loss, and she had their condolences. Billy knew Allie had been busy with her father’s estate and grad school, so he was curious how she was able to fit a trip into her schedule. Allie said that the semester was over, and after her stressful finals, she needed a break, so since Jack said the door was always open, she got a cheap flight.

At some point, Kyle left. Abby asked Allie how long she’d be staying. She planned to at least stay overnight, then they’d take it from there. She asked for a hotel recommendation. Traci insisted that Allie stay here – there was plenty of room, and Mrs. Martinez would take good care of her. Allie didn’t want to impose. Jack said Allie was an Abbott and this was the Abbott house, so she had to stay. Allie accepted. Traci said she’d show Allie up to a room. Jack had to take off for a bit, and he told Allie he was really glad she was here.

Billy and Ashley talked about the eventful day. She hoped Kyle was okay. He did too. He figured that Jack must’ve gone after Kyle, because that was the only reason Jack would leave with Allie upstairs. Abby came back downstairs and said Traci was talking Allie’s ear off. Abby figured the universe balanced things out – they got to meet Allie, but first they had to reunite with the worst person in the world. Ashley wanted to know what Billy was thinking when he told Kyle to give his mother the benefit of the doubt. Billy said, unlike Ashley, he thought people could change. Ashley didn’t think Billy was being fair to her. She also thought people could change, and she was aware of the strides Billy made in his life, however, Diane was in another league, and Ashley was worried about Kyle. Billy thought Ashley’s heart was in the right place, but this was up to Kyle. Ashley conceded that point, but she said Kyle asked for their perspectives. Billy said that at the end of the day, that was Kyle’s mother, and they all had to accept the fact that this was Kyle’s decision.

Jack found Kyle on his way up to Diane’s hotel room. Kyle was sorry for sneaking out like that. He didn’t want to make Allie’s arrival about him. Jack also knew that Kyle had wanted to see his mother. Kyle wanted to see how Diane was after being grilled by the Abbotts. Jack said that Diane could take care of herself – she always had. Kyle knew, but things had been pretty harsh at the house. Jack noted that Diane made an impression on Kyle. Kyle was still working through this. Jack just wanted to help any way he could. Kyle appreciated that, but he thought he needed to do this on his own. He said Jack should be back at the house with Allie. Allie said he was going to have some quality time with Allie, since she was staying a couple days. He had a feeling that Allie had some unspoken reason for coming, and he was confident that she’d open up to him. Kyle thought Allie seemed sweet, and he looked forward to getting to know her. Jack said Allie was in good hands, and he was concerned about Kyle. Kyle wanted to talk to his mom alone – there were things she deserved to hear in private. Jack accepted this. They agreed to meet at the house later, and Jack left. Kyle knocked on Diane’s door, and she wasn’t there.

Jack returned to the house and talked with Traci and Ashley. Ashley knew she’d had her reservations, but she liked Allie and wanted to know her better. Traci sensed something was weighing on Allie. Jack had the same feeling, but he wasn’t going to pry. Traci and Ashley decided to leave so Jack and Allie could have some time. Traci said Allie was young, and she might feel like she couldn’t burden Jack. Traci thought Jack should make it clear that Allie could open up to him, instead of waiting for her to ask. Later, Allie and Abby came downstairs. Abby had to get going, so she left, and Jack and Allie were alone. He asked how she was settling in. Things were going fine. He said everyone wanted her to feel at home. She said his family had been nothing but warm and kind and generous. He told her they were her family too, and she suddenly burst into tears.

Devon and Nate talked business at Nate’s penthouse. Devon was impressed with Nate’s ideas and felt that he’d made the right choice making Nate COO. Devon could tell this wasn’t just a job for Nate. Nate said he felt inspired by this new direction, and he appreciated Devon’s confidence in him. He was glad they were able to salvage their relationship. Devon agreed, and he said family and forgiveness was more important than anything. Lily walked in and agreed with that. Devon had come around to Nate and Lily’s desire to have a big flashy launch party instead of a quiet affair. Devon asked if Billy should be here. Lily said that he was at an Abbott gathering, and she’d fill him in later. Devon and Nate noticed that Billy had seemed kind of checked out at the last meeting when Lily talked about the family legacy. Nate asked if Billy was uncomfortable being a non family member at the top of a family company. Lily was caught off guard. She thought Billy was comfortable working anywhere – it was his superpower.

Devon asked if Billy would rather be working with his family at Jabot. Lily said Billy left Jabot because he was ready to get out of there, and he never looked back. She said Billy was excited about the merger, and his name might not be Hamilton, Chancellor or Winters, but he was 100% committed to the company. Devon didn’t question Billy’s commitment; he just wanted to make sure Billy was okay. Lily said he was fine. They were wrapping up their meeting when Elena arrived after a 12 hour shift at the hospital. Nate kissed her, and the others left.

Elena asked Nate how the meeting went – did they like his idea? Nate said it didn’t matter – all that mattered to him was her. He gave her a massage. She had a tough day and night. Things had changed for her because he wasn’t at the hospital anymore, and she had to wait until she got home to fill him in. He asked if things had changed between her and the staff. She said she didn’t get subtly judged for dating the chief of staff anymore. He thought that was good. Elena got a burst of energy, and she wanted to take things upstairs. She thought a bubble bath sounded good. Later, Elena and Nate had chardonnay and flirted. Then they talked about how his business meeting had energized him. He said that there was something magical about family coming together on a shared dream.

Billy and Lily were back in their old office again after working from home for awhile. She said he seemed off and she asked if something happened in the family meeting. He said Diane was in town, and they all met with her. Billy told Lily his opinion and Ashley’s dissenting opinion on Diane. Billy said Jack’s long lost granddaughter showed up, and she was very nice. He asked how her meeting went. She said it went really well. He told her that he ran into Victoria, and she questioned him about the Grinning Soul podcast. He said he denied it, but Victoria knew it was him. Lily said Billy let his anger cloud his judgment. He said she could say “I told you so.” She wasn’t going to do that. She thought that it was good that he had an anonymous podcast where he could express himself, but she thought his commentary should be more of a balance of universal and personal. He said she was so smart. He promised to make more of an effort moving forward. Right now, he had something else in mind – he kissed her.

Later, Billy did a podcast. He said people questioned if his talks were about something or someone specific. He said his thoughts were of a universal nature, and they were about his perspective. He said things would be ugly sometimes, and he’d change the names to protect the innocent – but who among them was innocent? He knew he wasn’t. He said he’d be hard on himself, and he’d be very hard on the ones who took advantage of others and harmed others. He’d show no mercy.

Sharon and Nick were at Crimson Lights. Everything was set for the memorial service this afternoon. Nick was sorry he wasn’t there to help plan. Sharon said she was the one who told Nick to go talk to Ashland. She wondered how that went, but he didn’t want to spend one more second talking about Locke. Sharon wanted the memorial service to be small and family oriented – if it got too big, things would be difficult for her. He promised do to anything he could to make sure her wishes were respected, but he hoped she’d reconsider flying to Miami alone. She said she was fine traveling by herself, and once the plane landed, she’d be with Rey’s family. Nick accepted it, but he said that if Sharon changed her mind, he’d be go with her. If Sharon changed her mind once she already got to Miami, Nick would fly down separately. She appreciated that. Sharon left to take care of some stuff before she left town.

Nick was on his phone texting people plans about the memorial, when heard someone say his name. He was in disbelief when he looked up and saw Diane. He asked who she was. She said she was no doppelganger, and his eyes weren’t deceiving him. He didn’t believe it. She invited herself to join him. “I am very much alive, and I’m back,” she replied. He thought it was impossible, but she stated that stranger things had happened in Genoa City. He asked what kind of game she was playing. She said to relax, because this had nothing to do with him. He wanted an explanation. She said she faked her death and now she was back to try and make amends to her son. Nick didn’t think that was possible, since Diane had devastated Kyle. Diane knew it would be hard, but she wasn’t giving up. Nick was angry about what Diane did to her son, to the entire Abbott family, and to the entire Newman family. He noted that his mother had been charged with Diane’s murder. Diane said she’d been hearing this from everyone since she got back. She knew she’d been a terrible person, but she changed. He didn’t think anyone would believe it. All that mattered to her was that Kyle believed it – she’d met her son a couple of times. Nick didn’t realize Kyle was in town.

Diane said Kyle was considering letting her into his life. Nick thought Kyle would be smart to stay as far away from her as possible. Nick ordered Diane to stay away from Summer. He wondered if his daughter knew about this. Diane was sure Kyle told her. She added that several people knew, including Nick’s parents. She was surprised Nikki and Victor didn’t tell Nick. Nick looked annoyed, but he said his family knew he had actual life and death issues going on right now, not just someone pretending to be dead. He thought that Diane would be smart to leave town. She asked if that was a threat. It wasn’t. He just thought there was nothing for her here anymore. She didn’t agree. He said the town moved on and repaired the destruction she caused. He thought she should’ve stayed gone. She said she would’ve if it weren’t for Kyle.

Diane didn’t care what anyone but Kyle thought. At that moment, Sharon returned, and her jaw dropped when she saw Diane. Diane greeted Sharon and told her she looked terrific. Sharon asked how this could be. Diane began to give her condolences, and Nick stepped in and told Sharon he’d take her home. Sharon knew they had to leave, but she was still in shock. He said he’d fill her in on the way. Diane said she didn’t come back to cause anyone pain. Nick guided Sharon out of the coffeehouse.

Sharon couldn’t believe Diane was alive. She and Nick were at the cottage. Sharon didn’t have the emotional bandwidth for Diane, but she was wondering how it was affecting Nick, who’d been close to Diane. He said he was fine, and he was going to focus on Sharon. He asked if there was anything she needed him to do for Rey’s service. She said just being here meant everything. She didn’t know how she’d get through this without him and the kids. He said they’d be there for her today and every day.

Diane went back to the hotel and found Kyle in the lobby. He asked where she was. She said she’d been reacquainting herself with Genoa City. He wasn’t sure if she was mad at him or feel like he ambushed her back at the house. She wasn’t mad; she understood why he brought her together with all the Abbotts. She thought it was good that she talked to everyone and got it all out in the open. She asked where things stood between the two of them. Kyle was going back to Milan tonight.

Recap written by Christine

Victor was at Society with Nikki. He was delighted that Victoria intended to restore the company’s original name – Newman Enterprises. He asked Nikki if she wanted him to speed the process along by going to HR. She said she’d mention it to her co-CEO. She shifted gears and said they had to discuss Diane’s return with Victoria and the rest of the family. He said he told Diane that she wasn’t welcome here. Nikki hoped Diane would stay the hell away from the Newmans, since Victoria had enough to deal with right now.

Victor said Diane would have to deal with him if she harassed Victoria. Nikki didn’t think there was much chance of that, since Victoria didn’t get out much these days, and basically went from home to the office and back. Victor said he’d have to tell Adam not to mention Diane to his sister. Nikki asked how Adam found out. Victor said he warned Adam because Adam and Diane were once co-conspirators. Nikki assumed the Abbotts would let Abby know about Diane’s return. She said they’d have to tell Nick, so he wasn’t blindsided. She knew Nick would be bothered if he found out from someone else, especially since Victor told Adam. Victor said that it was different – Adam and Diane were co-conspirators, but Nick couldn’t stand Diane ever since he found out what she did to their family, and especially Nikki. Nikki said there was nothing Diane didn’t stoop to, back then. Victor doubted that changed.

Victor got a takeout order of Nikki’s favorite dessert for later. She brought up Ashland’s attempt to impress Victoria by offering to donate half the money he got from Victor to New Hope. Victor said that Nick could to a lot of good with the money, but Ashland was trying to buy Victoria’s forgiveness. Nikki said Victoria swore it wouldn’t sway her. Nikki was concerned because it was obvious that Ashland wasn’t giving up on the idea of getting Victoria back. Victor hoped Victoria made it clear she was through with Ashland. He wanted that bastard out of town.

Victoria and Billy ran into each other at Crimson Lights. She invited him to join her for coffee, but he said he was there to pick up dessert to apologize for being late to the Abbott family meeting. He lingered and asked if there was something she wanted to discuss. She’d heard the podcast, the Grinning Soul. Billy pretended that the podcaster was someone based in California, but Victoria knew he was lying and that her soon to be ex husband was the subject of the latest episode.

Billy said he listened to the podcast, and it sounded to him like a generic diatribe on the abuse of power. Victoria said the podcast was about a greedy mogul who betrayed the woman he loved by lying to her about being sick. “Gee, I wonder who that could be,” Victoria said. Billy stuck to his story that the podcast could be about anyone. Victoria said Billy could change his voice, but she knew the cadence of his speech and the phrases he used. She told him to admit he was the host. He scoffed and said he already had a podcast. She thought the name fit him – soul implied depth, while grinning undercut it with sarcasm and self-deprecation. She asked when he was going to stop sticking his nose where it belonged and leave her in peace. She noted that the last time this happened, he lost ChancComm. He said that if the Grinning Soul was actually talking about Ashland, would he have a problem with that?

Victoria thought Billy had a family meeting. He suspected she was trying to dodge the question, so he repeated it. He said Ashland was a monster who wouldn’t face legal consequences, because he didn’t really break the law. He suggested it was fair for the public to hear Ashland get called out. Victoria said she was a private person, and Billy was exploiting her pain for his overblown ego. She thought that he’d broken his promise to be there for her.

Victoria went to work and stared at her new portrait, commissioned by her father. She then took off the necklace that was a gift from Ashland and looked at it. She remembered what Billy said in his podcast – that there was a mogul who had everything and still wanted more – a liar and manipulative person who took and took until he sucked everyone around him dry. The person caused pain by everyone around him. Nikki and Victor arrived and learned Victoria didn’t have lunch. They said she could’ve joined them. She was sure they wouldn’t have wanted her there, because they wouldn’t have been able to talk about her over their meal. Nikki said they’d discussed all the kids and some of the grandchildren – their family was their favorite subject.

Nikki praised Victoria for taking off the Valentine’s necklace from Ashland. Victor wanted to know why Victoria had been wearing the necklace in the first place. She said it was just jewelry. Nikki had been concerned Victoria was wearing it earlier because Ashland tried to buy her forgiveness. Victoria said Ashland hadn’t gotten in touch with her about that, which was good because it would be a waste of their time. She thanked Victor for the portrait and for supporting her hiring Nikki as co-CEO. He thought Victoria and Nikki would make a hell of a team. She knew he’d wanted her to come around on Adam. He still hoped she would, and he thought Adam had a lot to contribute, but it would be premature to appoint Adam co-CEO now. Victoria was glad Victor recognized that. Victor was thankful Victoria made the company bigger and stronger than it was a year ago, in spite of that bastard, Locke. He reiterated that she and Nikki would make a hell of a team.

Nikki and Victoria had a meeting with PR about changing the company name coming up. Victor said killing Newman Locke couldn’t happen soon enough. Victoria hugged her father and quickly left go grab some food before the meeting. Victor thought it was amazing that Victoria was so happy after everything that happened. He wouldn’t have blamed Victoria for falling apart – she was stronger than he realized. Nikki thought that having Victor’s support really helped Victoria. During the day, Victoria could lose herself at work, Nikki said. Victor wondered how Victoria was doing when she went home to a big empty house. Nikki didn’t know. She said that Victoria was heartbroken – she’d adored Ashland, and she was still grieving that loss.

All the Abbotts stared at Diane. Jack offered her water, since she looked a bit pale. She smiled and said she was fine, just a bit caught off guard. Kyle admitted he probably should’ve warned her what he’d had in mind. She said it was okay. She knew she’d have to face Kyle’s family at some point, but she didn’t imagine having to do it all at once. Diane had kept track of Traci Abby and Ashley over the years, and she knew they were living successful lives. “No thanks to you,” Abby shot back. Ashley added that if Diane had her way, Ashley and Abby would be in prison for a murder they didn’t commit. Diane said she wouldn’t have let that happen. Ashley didn’t think Diane would’ve come to their rescue. She noted that, before Diane’s death, she had been blackmailing Ashley and Abby. Traci shifted gears and said she was sure Diane knew how they felt about the terrible things she did in the past, but Kyle didn’t bring her here to re-litigate it all.

Diane thanked Traci. Diane knew she was here to answer any questions about why she ran away, what she’d been doing since then and what her intentions were now. That was alright with her. She was looking forward to this, if it helped convince them she’d changed. Ashley asked why they should believe Diane. Kyle apologized to his paternal family and said it would be okay if they wanted to forget the whole thing. Diane didn’t think Kyle should do this. She was sure the Abbotts must see that Kyle needed this. Abby was annoyed that Diane was trying to be Kyle’s protector, when she’d left and the Abbotts were the one who’d been there for Kyle. Jack thought Diane had the most to benefit from this. Diane agreed, but she said that more than anything, she wanted to prove to her son that she’d changed, and this might be the only opportunity he’d give her to do that. She could take it if they needed to lash out at her or go over her sordid history.

Ashley told Kyle that Diane was trying to set the agenda and manage the Abbotts and make it seem like she was so brave to be facing them. Ashley said the reality was that Diane had no choice but to face them, because she had a lot riding on this. Diane was adamant that she wasn’t manipulating her son, and she didn’t need anything from him but forgiveness. Ashley was sure that would change. While Traci was as skeptical as everyone else, she thought they should hear Diane out, like they told Kyle they would. Kyle told Ashley that it was up to her, and she decided to stay.

Diane understood why everyone was suspicious. She also used to see herself as someone vindictive and incapable of change. She gradually realized she was lying to herself and saying she couldn’t change as an excuse not to do the hard work of becoming a better person. It was pathetic, Diane sad, and it was costing her a chance to reunite with Kyle. She realized she had to redeem herself and earn some scrap of self respect – something she never had. As Abby recalled, Diane always had a high opinion of herself. Ashley agreed that Diane put her needs above everyone else’s. Jack said woe to anyone who got in Diane’s way. Diane said that was arrogance and self-entitlement, not self-respect, and it took her years to learn the difference. Traci asked if Diane had these revelations on her own. Diane found a great therapist who forced her to take a look at her life. Kyle asked if the therapist was in favor of Diane returning to Genoa City. Diane said she and the therapist discussed the risks at length. Ashley thought that meant no. Jack didn’t think a reputable therapist would support Diane luring him to LA and using his granddaughter. Diane noted that she’d already explained her intentions. Ashley said they didn’t buy Diane’s explanations. Abby asked how they knew Diane wasn’t lying about going to therapy because she thought that was what Kyle wanted to hear.

Abby and Ashley asked Diane more questions about her treatment, and she answered. The therapist was a psychologist, and Diane hadn’t had a session since she left LA. Abby asked how long Diane had been in therapy. Ashley asked why Diane didn’t have phone or video sessions. Jack thought that was a fair point. Kyle asked if Diane was going to have more sessions once things settled, and she said yes. Traci repeated Abby’s question. Diane said she’d been in therapy for about six years, give or take. Abby asked which was it – give or take. Ashley asked when Diane stopped arguing with this psychologist and realized she needed real help. Diane said things really started rolling about 4.5 years ago. Abby was skeptical that it only took four and a half years for Diane to shed her sociopathic tendencies. Diane said she couldn’t give an exact timeline – it was a gradual process. Ashley wanted to see Diane’s bank statements. Diane said they were welcome to – she wasn’t wealthy, but she could take care of herself – she just bought a home in LA.

Jack noted that Diane bought Keemo’s house, and Ashley added that it was a pretext for getting close to Allie. Diane said the point was she was self-sufficient. She had a life, friends and a career in California. She didn’t come out of desperation – she came because she was finally strong enough to ace the backlash, and she finally felt like she had something to offer her son.

Billy walked in and was taken aback to see Diane. She noted that he looked well, and he replied that she looked alive. Traci brought Billy up to speed, and he told Diane to carry on. She wasn’t sure what else to say. She said at some point, they would have to decide whether or not anyone was capable of redemption. Diane assumed Billy did, based on the podcast she’d heard him do, and based on the changes he’d made in his life. Diane noted that Jack and Ashley had forgiven Victor and Phyllis, and the characters in Traci’s novels grew and learned from their mistakes. Diane knew that Abby had a little boy. Diane promised that she felt the same love for Kyle that Abby did for Dominic. Diane acknowledged that she failed Kyle horribly, but now she wanted a chance to make it up to him and be the mother he deserved. She asked why any of them would stand in the way of her doing that.

Traci was curious how Diane pictured a second chance with Kyle going. Diane said she’d welcome any of Kyle’s time and attention that he could spare – a phone call, a Christmas card. Jack didn’t believe Diane would settle for that. Diane said she’d gone so many years without being around her son, so just being able to look him in the eye and tell him she loved him would be a gift. Billy noted that Diane was telling them what she’d settle for, not what she wanted. Kyle said Diane already told him that – she wanted to be part of his life. Abby asked if Diane was talking about following Kyle to Italy. Diane said that if Kyle were comfortable with it, it would be amazing. “Here we go,” Ashley grumbled. Diane said her Italian was rusty, but she could practice with Harrison. Ashley asked what if Kyle and Summer moved back to Genoa City. Diane said she’d plan accordingly. Ashley asked if Diane was aware that literally every Newman hated her. Diane would just avoid them – she’d gotten used to living a quiet life. Abby was skeptical. Diane said she changed, just like Abby wasn’t going around riding naked on horseback anymore.

Diane said that there was always tension between the Abbotts and the Newmans, but Abby said that it wasn’t like that anymore. Billy agreed and said that things were calm, with the exception of him and Victor and him and Adam, and occasionally him and Victoria. Traci gave Abby a lot of credit in bringing the family together. Billy said that his kids were part of both families, and Kyle and Summer were married, so it wasn’t two feuding camps anymore. Ashley said Diane wouldn’t have the opportunity to pit the two families against each other, which used to be one of her favorite tactics. Diane had no desire to cause problems – if the Newmans gave her a hard time, she’d deal with it – it would be worth it. She said this was hypothetical because Kyle hadn’t agreed to anything. Diane said she’d make any sacrifice to be close to him again. Just being in the same room with him gave her joy. She decided to go and let them mull over what she’d said.

Kyle asked his family what they thought. Ashley was sorry, but she thought Kyle’s instincts were right when he said he wasn’t sure if Diane was giving him a bunch of rehearsed lines. Ashley thought they’d just watched a performance – an excellent one, but not sincere. Traci thought Diane sincerely loved Kyle and wanted to be part of his life again. Jack said Diane always loved Kyle – that wasn’t the issue. Kyle said that he needed help figuring out if he could trust the rest of what she said. He thought Diane came across as someone who’d grown as a person. Abby couldn’t be objective. Abby thought that Diane bringing up Dominic was calculated, and it felt like something the old Diane would do. Ashley asked what Billy thought. He wasn’t sure they needed his input since he wasn’t here for the whole interrogation. Kyle still wanted Billy’s take. Billy asked why – because he was a reformed screw up? Kyle smiled and said something like that. Billy thought Diane sounded convincing, and he’d probably give her another chance, but he was the king of second and third chances.

Kyle asked if Traci thought his mom sounded credible. Traci thought Kyle should be very wary of Diane’s claim that she was completely rehabilitated. Traci conceded that Diane might truly believe that was the case, but there was no way they could prove she really had changed. Ashley said the only way to know was to observe Diane over an extended period of time. Ashley didn’t think they should actually do that though – she said they should avoid Diane all together. Kyle noted that there were two people who were opposed, and two who slightly thought they should give her another chance. He asked Jack what he thought.

Jack said that this was Kyle’s decision – he had to weigh everything he heard. Jack would support Kyle either way. Traci encouraged Kyle to take as much time as he needed. Ashley added that Kyle shouldn’t let Diane make him feel guilty or let her run the show. Abby seconded that. Kyle wasn’t sure what to do. Billy said Kyle could flip a coin. The doorbell rang, and Jack answered. It was Allie. She was sorry to just show up. She didn’t call ahead because she wasn’t sure if she’d chicken out of visiting. She asked if her timing was bad. Jack beamed. He told her that her timing was excellent, and he said to come inside and meet her family.

Adam: Diane. Welcome to the resurrection club. First rule of resurrection club is we don’t talk about the resurrection club.

Diane: Hello, Adam. You’re not as shocked to see me as I would’ve expected.

Adam: Well, my father spoiled the surprise.

Diane: Oh, I should’ve known.

Adam: Mm.

Diane: Mm.

Adam: Mm. You know, back when it really did look like you had bought the farm, I wanted to send you a “bite me” card for leaving things in a way that I would be implicated in your death, but i couldn’t find a forwarding address to hell.

Diane: I regret many things about that time.

Adam: How could you even stand to look at yourself in the mirror?

Diane: Well, I justified my actions by telling myself how resourceful you were, not that it’s any excuse.

Adam: Got to do what you got to do, right? I mean, half the people wanted you dead, and you did not disappoint. Everyone thought you were pushing up daisies. Really, it was impressive. But as someone who knows firsthand — and this is the second rule of resurrection club — once you’ve escaped, it’s the best idea not to come back.

Diane: Oh.

[Chuckles] I see what this is.

Ashley: You have no idea. Welcome back, bitch.

Diane: Ashley.

Ashley: You look pretty good for a dead person.

Diane: Thank you.

Ashland: Guess Victoria shot us both down, huh? I mean, we — we look a little pathetic, don’t you think? A couple of lap dogs hoping Victoria will throw us a bone, give us what we think we deserve.

Adam: [Chuckles] I really don’t know what you are talking about.

Ashland: Yeah? I’m just assuming that you think you still deserve to be co-CEO or temporary CEO of Newman/Locke or whatever fake title it is you — you’re willing to grovel for. But from what I just witnessed, Victoria doesn’t seem to be giving you the time of day.

Adam: And clearly you are out of the loop on the latest at your former company. The name Locke has been jettisoned, much like you’ve been. It’s all Newman now.

Ashland: Well, not all Newman. You seem to be having a little trouble holding onto your piece of the pie. Now, I may be out contractually, but I think I know Victoria well enough to know that she is not going to let you retain any title or power in her company.

Adam: Aww, apparently, you don’t realize how out of the loop you are. Have you heard who she is replacing you with as new co- CEO?

Ashland: Oh, she’s found someone already.

Adam: Yes. Nikki. So, looks like we both got screwed out of that coveted title. But at least I’m still head of the newly expanded Newman Media, which includes one of your other former companies. Whereas you just have my father’s money to keep you warm.

************************

Sharon: Rey. Rey.

[Sighs] I miss you so much. I feel you everywhere in our home. Your spirit still lives in every room here. You know, when I come home and i come to the door, I — I expect to find you here waiting for me, and when I hear a noise upstairs, I think it’s you, moving around. I think you’re there getting ready for work, and then… and then I remember. And then it hits me all over again. Everything here reminds me of you. Your coffee cup is still sitting by the kitchen sink where you left it the last morning you were here, and I…I can’t bring myself to put it away. I hope you didn’t suffer. I hope you weren’t in any pain. And I hope you know how loved you were.

Are. Always. And I know your spirit’s always gonna be with me…protecting me. You know, I can just see you smiling at how happy Tessa was about Crystal. And now I know why you were so disinterested in my obsession with finding the perfect wedding gift, because you already had something in the works. And I can’t believe you didn’t breathe a word of that to me.

[Sighs] You know, I should be mad at you for keeping that secret. But I can’t. I mean, I can never be mad at you again.

[Sighs] “Stop it — stop it, Sharon. Stop it.”

[Sighs] At least that’s what you would tell me. You gave me so many pep talks when I was sick. Who am I gonna turn to now? I don’t know how I’m gonna manage without you.

[Sniffles] My precious husband. Somehow I’m gonna find a way.

Diane: Jack, kyle, what’s — what’s the problem?

Jack: You.

Diane: Wh– police?

Kyle: This is her.

Diane: [ Scoffs ] Wait, what have I done?

Ready to press charges?

Kyle: I have waited my entire life.

Diane: Charges?

Jack: We’re charging you with abandonment.

Diane: [ Scoffs ] No. No, you don’t understand.

Jack: Oh, I understand. I understand plenty well. You’re a liar. You’re a coward. You said you wanted to have a child more than anything in the world. You didn’t have the patience to raise him. You couldn’t wait to get out of town to avoid the pandemonium you created.

Diane: No, no, it wasn’t like that. Besides, I’m a good person now.

Jack: You turned your back on your own child.

Diane: [ Exhales sharply ]

Jack: You know, when you have a little kid, you assume they’re gonna go along with pretty much everything you say, the way you think. And then they grow up and have opinions of their own.

Kyle: Mm. The nerve.

Jack: Not the easiest thing in the world, encourage your son to chart his own path and — and watch him make decisions that make you a little nervous.

Kyle: I know harrison will eventually get there. I’m already dreading it.

Jack: Have you been in touch with your mother since you told her you were gonna give her a chance to prove herself?

Kyle: Nope.

Jack: Having second thoughts?

Kyle: Big time.

Billy: Hi.

Lily: Hi.

Billy: Did you order for me?

Lily: I did.

Billy: You did? Great. Did you get me a cute little teapot with a cute little cup? I need to keep my vocal cords all nice and smooth for my podcast.

Lily: Oh, “the grinning soul.”

Billy: You heard it. Am I in the doghouse?

Lily: I am concerned.

Billy: Okay, but have you seen the numbers? Because it’s doing pretty well for a brand-new series.

Lily: Billy —

Billy: I did all the things that we talked about doing. I altered my voice. I made all the names and locations anonymous to protect the guilty.

Lily: It doesn’t matter. It’s gonna take two seconds for anyone close to the situation to know that you’re talking about ashland.

Billy: Well, if the sociopathic shoe fits…

Adam: So first victoria says she doesn’t need a partner, then, suddenly, out of nowhere, she appoints nikki as co-ceo. That spot should’ve been mine.

Sally: [ Sighs ] Did victor back her up?

Adam: [ Sighs ] She said it was a unilateral decision, that she didn’t need our father’s approval, which is untrue. He would have to sign off on something like that, which means he did. And word is already spreading to the company of nikki’s appointment, and did anybody bother warning me about it? Just another one of my dad’s mind games, another game of musical chairs, when once again I’m standing here being left out in the cold.

Sally: [ Sighs ] So victoria lets ashland get his hooks into the company, and then once he’s out, she just goes back to business like nothing happened, like she wasn’t the cause of all this chaos.

Adam: [ Sighs ] I don’t know why I waste my time hoping that they’ll give me a chance. It’s never gonna happen. I mean, this is our pattern.

Sally: I hate seeing them put you through the wringer, especially since it is clear to me that you don’t need any of them.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Any suggestions on what I should do about it?

Sally: Strike out on your own. Cut ties with the newmans altogether. So what’s going on?

Adam: Cutting ties? I have done that. More than once. I’m not sure I want to do it again.

Sally: Why not? Maybe your mistake was returning to the newman family fold.

Adam: Look, here’s the thing, my dad has this seemingly blind acceptance of victoria’s leadership abilities no matter how many times she screws up. And as long as she is in charge, she’s gonna cut me out, so if i walk away, it just feels like I’m conceding, like I’m letting her win.

Sally: Would that really be the worst thing in the world?

Adam: Um…I’m the one that came up with the idea to get locke out for good. I am the one that should be rewarded for that. She is still in my way, and she still refuses to acknowledge that I’m the one that saved her. So why should I give her what she wants?

Sally: You said it yourself — victor could’ve stepped in and vetoed victoria’s decision to promote nikki. But he didn’t, he let it stand in a transparent ploy to block you from what you deserve, what you earned. You have come way too far and you have done way too much to prove yourself to your family, and it is never enough.

Adam: Well, thanks for rubbing in in.

Sally: No, my point is if they are not gonna show you the respect that you have been looking for, then why stick around? You don’t need them. You’re talented and inspired and capable of making brilliant moves on your own.

Adam: Okay, so let’s say i did what you’re proposing and i cut all ties and I walked away from all things newman, including running newman media, and I left you here on your own to deal with my family. Would you really be okay with that?

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Jack: You abandoned kyle.

Diane: No, I walked away because that’s what was best.

Jack: For you!

Diane: No, for kyle! Please, I love my son.

Jack: Lies.

Diane: No! I do!

Jack: She walked away and never looked back.

Diane: Why are you doing this? It was the hardest decision of my life.

Kyle: She’s a complete fraud. Can’t be trusted. Don’t buy a word of it.

Jack: Never looked back.

Diane: There was an empty, broken place in my heart without you, and it started to heal when you said you’d give me a second chance. Please don’t take this away from me, kyle.

>>A mother letting her kid think she’s dead — that’s as low as it gets.

Diane: I didn’t want to abandon him. I wanted to come back.

Jack: You know how you can tell she’s lying? She’s moving her mouth.

Kyle: Mm.

Diane: I wanted you with me every day, kyle, but you deserved better. You deserved a stable, safe place where you could have the best that life had to offer.

You have the right to remain silent.

Diane: [ Exhales sharply ]

Kyle: She’s a prodigious liar so that’s not gonna happen.

And the right to an attorney.

Kyle: She’ll never find one to take this case.

Jack: Defending a woman who left her boy motherless?

Diane: Please, please. No! No, you don’t understand.

Jack: Have some dignity. Do the right thing for once. Go!

Diane: No!

[ Sighs ]

Jack: Ooh, stealing harrison’s cookies.

Kyle: Mm, I won’t tell if you don’T.

Jack: I’ll pass.

Kyle: Not that I ever want to keep things from my son. I like to think I haven’t inherited my mother’s bad habits.

Jack: I can see this is really weighing on you.

Kyle: Can’t sleep. Every time I close my eyes, i think about the awful things she’s done. How she’s hurt people I love, and how am I supposed to reconcile that woman, the one who walked away when I was so young, to the woman that she says she is now?

Jack: Believe, I understand how complicated your situation is.

Kyle: And she says that she turned her life around. That she recreated herself, and the last time I saw her, before she sent me away, before she changed my name, she promised that she was going to join me, but then she chose to vanish from my life.

[ Stammers ] Pretend she was dead.

Jack: Did she maybe share with you her reasoning in making those decisions?

Kyle: Yeah, they — they all sounded plausible. And — and potentially rehearsed. I… like she had been waiting for the chance to say them all to my face.

Jack: And that’s what’s keeping you awake at night.

Kyle: Yeah.

Jack: So what are you gonna do about it?

Kyle: I don’t know. We’ve heard all the facts, what mom did, what she said. I need to know how you feel about all this. What — what’s your gut telling you?

Jack: Kyle, I made a promise to myself not to interfere, not to try to influence how you felt about your mother and her story.

Kyle: Yeah, and I appreciate that you’ve managed to put your own personal feelings aside and encourage me to walk into this with an open mind, but now that I’ve heard her out, I need to unravel whether I believe she’s changed into a good, trustworthy person, or if it’s the little kid in me that’s wishing it were true.

Jack: And you want to be objective.

Kyle: And I don’t think I can be.

Jack: So you’ve come to me for that.

Kyle: Dads have all the answers. At least that’s what harrison says.

Jack: Yeah, I remember that. Cherish that.

Kyle: I do.

Jack: Kyle, for the last few days, I have puzzled over the same questions that have bedeviled you. Why did diane come back now of all times to reveal that she’s still alive? Can we still believe her?

Kyle: Bingo.

Jack: I have asked for the benefit of the doubt more times than I can count, so I put myself in diane’s shoes when she made that horrible decision all those years ago, tried to explain to myself why I would leave my child behind.

Kyle: Given that the original plan, the one she worked out with adam, was so that she could fake her own death so she could leave with me.

Jack: Diane claims she changed her mind, that she didn’t want that future for you, living on the run. She didn’t believe I would ever give up on trying to find either of you. And she’s 100% right about that.

Kyle: But if she had just come to me from the beginning and tried to explain, we could —

Jack: Kyle, listen to me. You were very young. Would you have understood? And would it have been any better, knowing that she’s out there somewhere without you? You’d have spent your life asking questions that would have made you a completely different man, and I happen to love the man you have become. So maybe, just maybe, this one time, diane made the right choice in leaving the way she did.

Sally: Have I told you how much I hate hypotheticals?

Adam: You’ve never imagined it?

Sally: What I would do if you noped out of newman and left me here alone?

Adam: Would you stay or would you go?

Sally: I would keep my job and do my best to win your entire family over.

Adam: Why?

Sally: Because, aside from the fact that I love my job and that I have absolute faith that we will be phenomenally successful wherever we choose to be, do you know how rare this is? To find someone who thinks the way that you do, who believes in you, who makes you laugh, who wants what you want? Have you ever met anyone like that?

Adam: Yeah. Once.

Sally: For the first time, i actually feel like I’m meeting someone on my level. That is why we work, because we take each other exactly how we are. I don’t need you to be the good or the bad version of yourself or what everyone else expects you to be.

Adam: What — what do you want?

Sally: Just you. All of you.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Look, knowing that you are willing to brave my family, it should make the decision to walk away easier. But it just — it feels different this time. I don’t know if — if I’m older and wiser or it’s knowing that someone has my back. But now I just — it feels like walking away, I would be giving up instead of doing something on my own terms. On the other hand, despite my best efforts, I could just be falling for my dad’s games, craving the look of approval in his eyes.

Sally: Yeah. His opinion will always mean something to you, no matter what.

Adam: I just don’t think that I can ignore the challenge that victoria threw down by hiring nikki over me.

Sally: You shouldn’t have to battle for recognition, especially after everything you’ve done for your family. But if you choose to stay and fight, I will still be here. And if you want to just walk away and turn your back on all of them, then I will stand by you. Either way, I will support you. I’ll weigh in with my advice and do my best to make sure that we are both successful.

Adam: So I guess the only thing now is to consider what is best for me right now.

Sally: But I will continue to tell you that you deserve better. And then I will kiss you to drive the point home.

Billy: The whole point of recording a second voice-altered podcast was so I could talk about the issues that billy abbott needs to publicly distance himself from.

Lily: Look, if you try to convince me that two billys are better than one —

Billy: Well, just hear me out for a second, because the way i see it, billy one is your right-hand man. Billy two is untamed, a rebel that answers to no one.

Lily: Look, you know I love the idea of the anonymous podcast where you can talk about what you want without there being any blowback to the company.

Billy: I love your ability to say “but” without actually saying “but.”

Lily: You have a confrontation with ashland, then you turn right around and vent about it on a podcast?

Billy: I didn’t mention our names.

Lily: It doesn’t matter. Anyone can connect the dots.

Billy: I think you’re worried about it because you know the players. So think about it for a second without picturing the snake that we all know very, very well. I could’ve been talking about any other mogul who has used manipulation and deceit to rise to power. And that is what the average listener is going to hear.

Lily: Yeah, and I really hope that you’re right. And look, I agree with the message that you sent, but be prepared if certain people — like victoria — see beyond this “grinning soul” persona and know that it’s you putting it out there. I brought in ensure max protein,

Billy: Wasn’t it you that requested we not talk about victoria at least for one day? So here’s the deal. Did she need protecting? Yes, I believe she did. Before she found out the kind of man that ashland locke was. But now that she knows, the truth is out there, then I don’t see the harm.

Lily: If anyone figures out that these stories are about ashland, how do you think that’s gonna make victoria look?

Billy: Like a sympathetic figure. Like a loving partner that was deceived from the most heinous of men, and I hope that she appreciates the fact that I’m not personally getting involved in her problems, because you were right — that would be a bad idea.

Lily: Have you thought about what would happen if it’s ashland that figures out that you’re behind this?

Billy: I hope he does. I really do. I hope he puts together the math, and I would pay to see the look on his face when he realizes that he is the monster underneath the bed and that everyone listening out there is putting together the story. Recoiling from horror at all the lies that he’s perpetrated his entire life, because ashland locke needs to realize that actions have consequences.

Jack: Kyle, to be clear, I am not condoning anything else that diane has done or offering any opinions about who she is as a person.

Kyle: Noted.

Jack: She hurt a lot of people in a lot of ways, and I — I just —

Kyle: What is it? I asked you to be completely honest with me.

Jack: Kyle, if diane had stuck to her original plan, taking you with her and disappeared, would I ever see you again? I mean, if she evaded every effort I made to track you two down… I hate to even think what that would have been to us. And I can’t think about your situation without thinking about my mother. I was absolutely gutted when she left our family, when she — when she left me behind. I was angry for so many years, and when she walked back into our lives, I wanted to slam the door in her face. It is nothing short of a miracle that before she died, we were able to reconcile, that I found some understanding and some forgiveness. It’s one of the greatest gifts of my life. Do I want that for you? Absolutely, more than anything. Maybe this once diane did the right thing. I’m not saying she’s changed. I’m not saying I accept everything she’s telling us on faith. I’m just saying I believe the decision to leave you behind is the toughest decision she ever made in her life.

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

Jack: Kyle, I know that’s not the simple answer you were hoping to get from me. But there’s nothing simple about this.

Kyle: You’re right. It’d be cool if we could just run a sim.

Jack: Come again?

Kyle: A simulation. What a future with my mother in it would look like.

Jack: And how exactly would we pull that off?

Kyle: We put her to the full abbott test.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Jack: Thank you, kyle. I’ll take care of the rest.

Meet ron.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Lily: Look, even the thought of someone possibly having cancer can turn their life upside down, so the fact that ashland used a lie like that to make a profit, I mean, it makes me angry that he’s walking around here with no care in the world. So, yes, you know, this has a very personal thing thing for me.

Billy: 100%, and it sounds like we agree, so why are you upset about the podcast?

Lily: Because I don’t like the idea of you possibly losing this amazing platform because you’re not being careful with when and how to, you know, put this information out there.

Billy: I get it, I do. But I really don’t think that this is going to be a blip on victoria’s radar. She’s got more important things to keep her mind on rather than the anonymous musings of “the grinning soul.”

Lily: Well, I really hope you’re right.

Billy: I am right. You don’t want me to be right, because then I would pile up the other side of all the other times I’ve been right, and then it’ll be off-balance.

Lily: Oh, my god, give me a break.

Billy: Oh, saved by a phone call.

Lily: Then answer it. I don’t care.

Billy: Jack.

Jack: Drop whatever you’re doing and come to the abbott house. I’m calling a family meeting.

Billy: Okay, but what if I’m in the middle of something important?

Jack: Nothing’s more important than supporting kyle right now. Ashley, traci, abby are all on their way. Hopefully I can count on you, too.

Billy: Yeah, of course, I’ll be there as soon as I can.

Lily: What’s going on?

Billy: Jack is calling a family meeting because it sounds like kyle is back in town, and, you know, diane is not dead anymore, so sounds like a fun occasion.

Lily: Well, unlike the chancellor-winters meeting you’ll be missing.

Billy: Uh, yeah, can I get a pass on that?

Lily: Uh, I really need my coo there.

Billy: Yeah, you’re right. Wouldn’t be the first time that I show up late to a family gathering. I’ll just go when I’m done.

Lily: You sure?

Billy: 100%. You and chancellor-winters are my top priorities.

Sally: Sneaking upstairs to a suite here never gets old.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Oh, my god.

Sally: Adam?

Sally: Hello. I’m sally. Sally spectra. Adam and I work together.

Diane: Oh, I gather things have progressed beyond that, since it appears you were headed upstairs.

Sally: [ Chuckles ]

Adam: You have more nerve than I thought, coming back to town, staying in phyllis’ hotel. It’s a death wish. Some things never change.

Diane: Everything’s changed. As I told victor, I’m not here to cause trouble or have anything to do with your family. I’m here for one reason only — kyle.

Adam: Your son that you abandoned, even though you and i had made a plan for you to be able to join him and start a new life together. Hey, but plans change, right?

Diane: I won’t make excuses or try to justify what I did.

Adam: Smart.

Diane: Yes, I don’t like who I was back then, and I’m not proud of the things I did. Something I think you can understand.

Adam: [ Exhales sharply ] Well, I guess the new-and-improved diane isn’t above taking potshots at her former co-conspirator.

Diane: No, that’s not what i was doing. I’ve managed to keep up with what’s going on in genoa city. I know that you’ve worked hard to turn over a new leaf and make a different life for yourself.

Adam: What is your point?

Diane: I just want the same thing that everyone gave you. A second chance.

Adam: I hope that is true. I don’t have the same kind of beef with you that the rest do, so good luck, I guess.

Diane: Thank you, adam. Nice to meet you, sally.

Sally: You too.

Abby: Kyle!

Ashley: Good to see you, kyle. How are you?

Kyle: Hanging in there.

Traci: I have been thinking about you nonstop since our chat, and I’m hoping so much that you were able to find a little clarity.

Jack: Billy should be here any minute. I know we all have a lot of questions, but we’re kind of running out of time.

Abby: Why? What’s going on? I thought this was a family meeting.

Kyle: We’re having a special visitor arrive soon.

Traci: Not —

Jack: Yes, her.

Ashley: Diane jenkins is coming here?

Kyle: She is.

Ashley: I can’t believe she would have the nerve to come back to genoa city, let alone this house.

Kyle: Actually, she’s already been here. This won’t be my first time seeing her.

Ashley: Well, it will be your last, if I have anything to say about it.

Abby: If someone had told me that diane was gonna be at —

Jack: It’s why I didn’t tell you, abby.

Kyle: She claims she’s changed.

Ashley: Into what, exactly?

Jack: Would you let him finish his thought, please?

Kyle: She says that she spent her time away getting her life together.

Abby: [ Scoffs ] Okay, should we be amused or afraid? Why is she back in genoa city?

Kyle: For me, to explain herself and ask for forgiveness.

Ashley: But you’re not actually considering forgiving her, right? Because even if she has spent the last few years polishing her halo through charity and good works, you know that it’s — it’s just an act, right?

Abby: Kyle, I mean, how do you feel about all this? It can’t be easy finding out that your mother’s alive and that she wants to reconnect with you.

Ashley: Use you. Let’s not forget who we’re talking about.

Kyle: I’m not sure what to think.

Abby: After all of these years, maybe she wants to do the right thing?

Jack: Diane has made a very compelling case for herself.

Ashley: Oh, please. You don’t actually believe that she’s had some kind of miraculous transformation.

Jack: I am just as skeptical as you are, just as wary of her motives, but we three know what it is to be estranged from the woman who brought us —

Ashley: Don’t you dare go there, jack. I know our mother was a piece of work, but she’s nothing compared to diane.

Traci: Okay, okay, please, please. Sorry, kyle. We know that this is a very — an exceedingly difficult situation.

Abby: Kyle, look, all we want to do is support you. We want to be here for you, no matter what you choose. Right?

Jack: Abby’s right. That’s been my approach to this whole fiasco.

Ashley: Okay. I’m sorry. And please tell us, how do you feel now that you’ve actually spoken with your mother?

Kyle: I don’t know. I’ve been going back and forth trying to figure out if she’s lying or if she’s telling the truth, which is why I’ve called all of you here today.

Jack: It is one thing for diane to feed kyle a lot of well-rehearsed regrets and promises to do better.

Kyle: And something else completely to have to face me and my family. See how she handles herself in front of people who have seen her at her worst. That’s how I figure out if she’s telling the truth and if she’s sincere about being a changed person. What do you say?

Abby: I think we should.

Traci: Might as well.

Jack: Ashley, what do you think?

Ashley: Hell yes. Bring it on.

Sally: [ Chuckles ] The lows of bipolar depression

Ashley: So what time is diane’s broom scheduled to get here?

Kyle: Five minutes ago.

Abby: Maybe she got cold feet.

Traci: Look, if — if this is going to work, if it’s gonna get results, we have to all stick to the plan, okay?

Ashley: And maybe if we’re lucky, she got herself kicked out of town already.

Jack: Be nice, ash.

Ashley: This is me being nice, jack.

Kyle: Don’t bother bombarding her with old grievances. That’s not going to get us anywhere.

Abby: I loathe her as much as anyone, but the reason why we’re all here is to help kyle discover the truth.

Traci: Right, and to understand what’s on diane’s mind and in her heart.

Ashley: And to help kyle with the outcome when he realizes his mother actually has no heart.

Abby: Mom.

Ashley: No, I have seen into her soul. It’s a deep, dark abyss. I do not believe that she’s had some kind of miraculous transformation.

Adam: How are you so perfect? No, I mean it. And I’m not talking about your face, which is a thing of beauty. Or your body and the things that you can do with it. You didn’t bombard me with questions two seconds after we saw diane.

Sally: I knew that you would tell me when the time was right. And that was definitely not the time.

Adam: Okay. You ready?

Sally: Yes! Yes, I have been dying to hear all about this woman since i first heard her name, and now that I’ve seen her in the flesh, I’m like 1,000 times more pcurious.

Adam: Diane is driven. She’s obsessed. She will stop at nothing to get what she wants. And not in a good way, like you. And I wouldn’t hesitate helping her when it would work to my advantage.

Sally: In what way?

Adam: We worked together to make it look like victor was dead to drive down the price of the newman stock.

Sally: You didn’T.

Adam: Made a pretty sizable profit, too. That was the kind of relationship that we had. I agreed that I would help her escape the mess that she had made of her life, evade jack, and start a new life with her son. And that is that.

Sally: Wow.

Adam: Yeah, I did a lot of things back then that I wasn’t proud of, but I’d like to think that that scheme at least was semi-noble.

Sally: Well, diane’s right, you definitely have changed. You’ve grown.

Adam: Well, what can I say? I’m a work in progress. No, but all kidding aside, I’m glad that you’re in my corner. It’s nice being with someone who is “meeting me on my level.”

Sally: [ Chuckles ] Yes, it’s a rare thing. So what are you gonna do about your family’s latest move?

Adam: I’m not sure.

Sally: Well, I will take this ride with you wherever it goes.

Kyle: Thanks for coming.

Diane: Yeah, I was so excited when I got your text.

Kyle: Right this way.

Diane: Oh.

[ Chuckles ] I see what this is.

Ashley: You have no idea. Welcome back, bitch.

Diane: Ashley.

Ashley: You look pretty good for a dead person.

Diane: Thank you.

Traci: It’s been a long time, diane.

Diane: Lovely to see you, traci. You too, abby.

Kyle: I felt it was important that, if we’re going to take the next step, that you meet with all of us. If I’m going to allow you back in my life — and that’s still a big if — it not only affects my life, but the lives of my entire family. All of us you have a history with.

Jack: Each of us is affected one way or the other.

Diane: I have no desire to cause any problems for the abbotts.

Kyle: Nonetheless, it’s something you will have to understand and accept — your presence affects us all. Just like we will have to decide if we accept your claim that you are a different person now.

Next week on “the young and the restless”…

Adam: I have already made my decision. I want newman enterprises — every single bit of it.

Jack: I would love for you to meet allie nguyen. This is keemo’s daughter and my granddaughter.

Allie: Hi, everyone. How are you?

Michael: You were dead.

Diane: And now I’m not.

Michael: It’s pretty good to see you.

Nick: Hey. Do you want some breakfast?

Sharon: Um, I’m really not all that hungry.

Nick: Well, it’s too late, i already started my famous chocolate chip pancakes. I know you can’t resist those.

Noah: Hey!

Mariah: Hi. Sorry.

Noah: [ Sighs ]

Mariah: How is — how’s mom doing this morning?

Noah: She was still in bed when I left the house. Dad had just gotten there, though, to make her some breakfast. Who knows if she’s actually gonna eat anything, though.

Mariah: Well, did she at least have dinner last night?

Noah: I tried to get her to have something, but I didn’t have much luck. I ran into faith this morning before she went to school, and she, uh — she said she could hear her restlessly wandering around the house again last night.

Mariah: Well, I’m not surprised that she isn’t sleeping, considering everything she’s been through. And this has been hard on all of us, but I guess if — if anyone can get her to eat, it’s nick.

Noah: [ Chuckles ] Yeah, dad has his charms. What are you working on?

Mariah: Oh, I am working on a playlist for the wedding. And you think it would be easy, but it’s actually incredibly difficult. There’s just so many songs that we love.

Noah: Sounds like you could use some help. Should hit up mom to work on it with you. She could use the distraction.

Mariah: I — I doubt that’ll work, but I’ll think about it.

Tessa: Hi. Are you guys ready for some good news?

Mariah: Uh, are we ever.

Tessa: So I just got a call from my sister, and crystal can come to the wedding.

Ashland: Is it okay if I ask you how you’re feeling today?

Victoria: Stronger every day.

[ Sighs ] You know, the human capacity for resilience is nothing short of astounding. You think you’re not gonna make it through something, and then here you are, pouring milk into coffee like nothing ever happened.

Ashland: Well, I know I’m just one of many things that you’re recovering from…the person that hurt you so much. But your fortitude played a large part in my falling in love with you in the first place. I’m just sorry that I’m the reason you have to rely on it so much now. Yeah, don’t — don’t worry about it. I’m actually recovering quite nicely.

Victoria: Oh, yes, I know. You have a knack for miraculous recoveries. What are you still doing here anyway? Don’t tell me you’re planning on staying in town and please don’t tell me you’re harboring some delusion that I’m gonna forgive you.

Ashland: It’s hard for me to let go of that. Almost as hard as pretending the love I still feel for you doesn’t exist.

[ Sighs ] How am I supposed to let that go, huh?

Chloe: [ Sighs ]

Chelsea: Sorry I’m late. I —

[ Sighs ] I was up half the night. Eventually, I drifted off, and then I slept through my alarm. Thank you for getting me my coffee.

Chloe: Yeah, just as requested — an extra shot of espresso.

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] Boy, did I need this. It’s the only way to get through the day, considering everything we have on our agenda.

[ Sighs ]

Chloe: This is about rey, isn’t it? His death is clearly hitting you harder than you want to admit.

Mariah: Crystal’s coming to the wedding?

Tessa: Isn’t it exciting?

Mariah: Yeah, I mean, I know how much you want your sister to be there, but you’re the one who helped her flee to canada in the first place. I thought you didn’t want her to take the risk.

Tessa: All the charges against crystal have been dropped. And zack’s last known associate in the sex-trafficking ring has been locked up and arrested. Crystal can come and go as she pleases. We don’t have to worry anymore.

Mariah: Is this for real? How did this even happen?

Tessa: Well, not only is crystal safe now, but the way it happened is even more amazing. Want more restful sleep?

Victoria: I’m sure you’ll be able to find a way to let go. It’s what you do best. You’re — you’re the master of reinvention. And now, thanks to my father, you have a tidy little sum of cash so you can facilitate your latest do-over.

Ashland: I don’t have the will or the strength to reinvent myself again.

Victoria: Just stop. Stop. Stop making this so hard on both of us. If you really loved me, then just take your blood money and — and leave town.

Adam: Hey, I can see why you’re making a speedy exit. But we need to talk. Can we meet back at the office?

Victoria: I’m sorry, I don’t have time in my schedule today.

Adam: Okay, surely you can spare a few minutes for me, so just let me know when.

Victoria: If this is about newman, I’ve already made up my mind. I’m appointing my mother as co-ceo and there’s nothing that you can say to change that.

Adam: Really? We can’t even have a conversation about this?

Victoria: I think it would be a waste of time for both of us.

Adam: Well, I wonder what our dad would have to say about this decision.

Victoria: Does it matter what our dad has to say? It’s my decision to make, period.

Chelsea: Of course rey’s death is affecting me. We’ve already discussed this. He had become one of my very close friends.

Chloe: I understand that. I just — I think you need to pull yourself together. Not just for your sake, but for connor’S.

Chelsea: Well, that’s what has me so worried. My son still feels guilt about what happened. And adam and I, we’ve been trying to convince him, you know, “this accident was not your fault, connor.” Rey — I mean, his heart stopped. It would’ve happened no matter where he was.

Chloe: I know. It’s so sad. Nothing would’ve changed the outcome.

Chelsea: You know, in a little boy’s mind, it’s too hard to grasp all that. I think — I think he’s having trouble isolating the guilt he feels from the grief.

Chloe: Oh, poor connor.

Chelsea: I know. I mean, it doesn’t seem rational, but in his mind, you know, all of those events will forever be connected.

Chloe: So how is it affecting his behavior?

Chelsea: Well, he’s not playing hockey anymore. And he used to love it. I think he feels like he doesn’t deserve to play anymore.

Chloe: [ Sighs ] You know, my heart really goes out to the little guy. Kids’ feelings can get so confusing, but maybe this is just him figuring out how to deal with the grieving process.

Chelsea: [ Sighing ] Yeah. I asked noah if he would take him to play at the local rink, you know, try to connect him to the fun again, you know? Remind him rey — rey would want him to play again. He would want him to enjoy the game as a way to — to honor their friendship.

Chloe: Yeah, I think that’s a great idea, and maybe he can figure out how to deal with his own guilt. But how are you dealing with your guilt? Your own sense of loss? I know that you and rey were friends, but your reaction just seems much deeper than that. I mean, how close had you and rey grown before he died?

Nick: You know you’re not fooling me, right? You barely touched your food. You just kind of moved it around the plate. So I’ll make you a deal. If you have just a few more bites, then I’ll clean up that giant mess I made in the kitchen myself.

Sharon: Nick, you don’t have to treat me like I’m one of the kids.

Mariah: Hey. Hi, mom.

Sharon: Hey, you guys. What are the three of you doing here all together? Um, you have strange looks on your faces. Is something wrong?

Noah: No, it’s nothing bad, mom, trust me.

Tessa: No, it’s actually the opposite. I have wonderful news.

Sharon: Well, we could certainly use some of that.

Tessa: Crystal can be the maid of honor at our wedding. She no longer has to worry about the charges against her because they were dropped.

Sharon: Wow, that is fantastic. I mean, that’s great for your sakes and for crystal’S. And what timing. But how?

Tessa: Well, that’s the thing that makes this entire thing a miracle. It was rey. He was instrumental in making it happen. I’m amber, I’ve lost 128 pounds with golo,

Sharon: Wait, what do you mean? How was rey involved?

Tessa: Well, according to crystal, he found her case when he was going through cold case files, and then he went to michael and he convinced him that there wasn’t enough evidence for a conviction. And then michael went to the da and got him to drop the charges.

Sharon: That’s amazing. But what about that dangerous group that zack was involved in? Might they still be a threat?

Tessa: That’s the best part. Rey found him and got him arrested, so he’s no threat to crystal and she’s in no danger.

Noah: Did you know rey was working on this, mom?

Mariah: I can tell by your expression that he — he didn’t tell you.

Sharon: No. He didn’T. I had no idea.

Tessa: Maybe he wanted it to be a surprise.

Nick: Or maybe he didn’t say anything ’cause he didn’t want to get everyone’s hopes up in case it didn’t work out.

Sharon: Yeah, that sounds like rey. He was always very protective and cautious about other people’s feelings.

Tessa: But it did work. And now crystal can come out of hiding and be my maid of honor.

Sharon: Even now, rey is here, helping. Looking out for us and protecting us. Tessa, I’m so happy for you. And rey’s last gesture just proves even more profoundly what an amazing man he was.

Ashland: Guess victoria shot us both down, huh? I mean, we — we look a little pathetic, don’t you think? A couple of lap dogs hoping victoria will throw us a bone, give us what we think we deserve.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] I really don’t know what you are talking about.

Have you heard who she is replacing you with as new co-ceo?

Ashland: Oh, she’s found someone already.

Adam: Yes. Nikki. So looks like we both got screwed out of that coveted title. But at least I’m still head of the newly expanded newman media, which includes one of your other former companies. Whereas you just have my father’s money to keep you warm.

Nikki: Hello.

Victoria: Do you know anything about this?

Nikki: Your father commissioned it and put a rush on it.

Victoria: Really?

Nikki: Really. We understand why you destroyed the one that ashland had made for you, but we felt that it needed to be replaced. And, darling, he may have broken your heart, but he certainly hasn’t destroyed your spirit or your strength of leadership. And that is exactly what that portrait represents.

Chelsea: Rey and I were just friends. I haven’t tried to hide that, so whatever you’re trying to insinuate is wrong. I mean, of course this affects me deeply. Of course it’s painful. Are you trying to tell me that I’m wrong for feeling that way?

Chloe: No, no, not — not at all. Look, I am — I am not suspicious or judging you in any way. I am just trying to understand your very deep response to all of this. I didn’t realize that you and rey were that close.

Chelsea: Rey was supportive and open-hearted, during a time where he should have hated me. He accompanied me and connor to my mom’s house after I got out of the hospital. When — when I got back to genoa city, he would seek me out just to check in on me. We had deep conversations that encouraged me, inspired me. He bonded with connor. He convinced me that I could turn my life around, that things were gonna get better. He told me I was a good mom, even after all the terrible things I did. Rey…he, um — he gave me hope that I would be accepted again.

Chloe: You should hold on to that.

Chelsea: How can I? His heart attack, this car crash, this one horrible night, this one horrible moment, it just — it rips all of that hope away.

Chloe: I know that — that you keep telling yourself that it was just friendship, but i know you too well. You were falling in love with rey, weren’t you? Life… doesn’t stop for diabetes.

Sharon: Everybody, sit down. Take a seat. I’m really glad that you’re all here because this news about crystal, it just makes something that I’ve been mulling over even more relevant, but I would need all of your help to pull it off.

Nick: Well, we are here for whatever you need.

Noah: Yeah, just name it.

Sharon: Well, I want to hold a memorial service here in genoa city for rey.

Mariah: Yeah, I mean, we can certainly pull something together.

Noah: Yeah, I can work on invitations.

Sharon: Well, I don’t think we’d need anything that formal. I was thinking of just doing something kind of small.

Nick: Sure. When?

Sharon: Well, I would like to do it before I accompany rey to miami.

Mariah: Isn’t — isn’t that tomorrow?

Sharon: That’s why I was hesitant to ask. I’d like to do it today.

Nick: Are you sure you don’t want to wait until after the service in miami?

Sharon: It’s why I couldn’t sleep last night. I was thinking about it the whole time, and don’t get me wrong, I totally understand celeste’s request to bring rey home and I’m absolutely fine with honoring that. But don’t you think that rey’s family here in genoa city should pull together and pay tribute to him as well? Before I have to bring him to his other home? Before I have to bury my husband?

Noah: Mom, are you sure you’re up for this right now?

Sharon: I want to say goodbye in my own way with rey’s friends and family here. I know it’s a lot to ask, but i hope we can pull it off today.

Nick: Absolutely. I think this’ll be good for you and for all of us.

Chelsea: I wasn’t in love with rey. Why would you even think that? He was quite happily married to sharon. In fact, it was his loyalty and dedication that made him such a trustworthy and safe friend.

Chloe: I said “falling in love.” I meant feelings, not actions, and I wasn’t accusing you of anything.

Chelsea: Well, it feels like you’re reading into the motives behind my grief, and quite frankly, I don’t want to talk about this anymore.

Chloe: Okay, okay, let’s — let’s change the subject. This was supposed to be a breakfast meeting anyway.

Chelsea: Yeah, and we need to work on these projections if we’re gonna show them to lauren.

[ Sighs ] I mean, the good thing about me not getting any sleep is I was able to come up with a few more sketches. So what do you think about this?

Chloe: Yeah, that’s — that’s different. Love the neckline.

Victoria: The portrait is — it’s lovely, mom, but I’m surprised that dad would do something like this for me after he was so determined to shove adam down my throat as co-ceo. Basically saying that he had lost confidence in me after what happened with ashland.

Nikki: That is not true. Actually, he has accepted the idea of my taking the position.

Victoria: Really?

Nikki: Yes. I mean, he’s still disappointed that the antagonism between you and adam still exists, but he made it very clear that he would support your decision.

Victoria: I — I didn’t expect that. I made it perfectly clear to adam that it was my decision to make, but [Exhales sharply] I expected some kind of pushback.

Nikki: Darling, you have been through so much lately. Your father wanting you to bring in a co-ceo has nothing to do with a lack of confidence. It has to do with giving you the time and space to heal from everything that has happened. Believe me, your father has not lost faith in you at all.

Ashland: I stand by my original comparison. Victoria rejected us both.

Adam: Don’t try to compare us. You broke her spirit.

Ashland: By signing a deal you brought to me behind her back.

Adam: Look, you are never gonna cleanse your actions in her mind and her heart. So you should just give up trying.

Nick: What the hell?

Sharon: Is there a problem?

Nick: Uh, I just got a text from ashland. I can’t imagine why he would want to see me, and I’m not particularly interested in finding out.

Sharon: Well, maybe you should find out, at least for victoria’s sake.

Nick: No, planning rey’s memorial is far more important than anything this guy has to say. Plus, I don’t even know why he’s still in town or why he would reach out to anyone in the newman family.

Sharon: I think you should find out what he wants. And I’d rather you just go and get it over with so that you can come back here and be with us and you won’t have this question gnawing at you.

Tessa: We got this. We can get it all organized.

Sharon: You were such a big help to me this morning, and i have the kids here with me now. I’m fine. Nope

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Chloe: Okay, I’ll put these numbers together and the projected schedule for a meeting with lauren.

Chelsea: Look at him. Alive and well while a good man like rey is gone.

Chloe: You cannot blame him and victoria for what happened that night.

Chelsea: But I can’t help but wonder — did he even try to go back for rey? You know, the news reports make him sound like a hero for pulling victoria from the burning car. Did he even try to help rey? Maybe he could’ve done cpr. Maybe he could’ve saved his life.

Chloe: Stop it, chelsea. Stop it. You are fixating on what happened that night.

Chelsea: You’re making it sound like I’m obsessing over this.

Ashland: Hello, nick. Thank you for getting here so quickly.

Nick: Well, I’m here in case there’s anything else I need to do to protect my sister or family from you.

Ashland: You really expect the worst of me, don’t you?

Nick: Actually, I think I’d prefer it if you dealt with me from now on instead of upsetting my sister more than you already have.

Ashland: Well, I can assure you there’s no reason for you to be so defensive. What I have to offer is of great importance and benefit to you, no strings attached.

Chloe: Relax, chelsea. I wasn’t trying to diagnose your behavior, but I — I do recognize the warning signs of when you’re starting to go over the edge.

Chelsea: You think I’m losing it?

Chloe: Everything that you’re experiencing is completely natural, considering how overtired you are and — and the grief that you’re having. Look, I’m just simply trying to point it out and interrupt the unhealthy cycle of blame before it goes any further.

Chelsea: You’re right. You’re right. I’ve been functioning on way too little sleep lately.

[ Sighs ] I think, if you don’t mind, i might go back to my room and try to get some rest. I want to be at my best when we present to lauren later.

Chloe: I think that’s a really good idea.

Chelsea: Okay.

Ashland: I would like to make a donation to new hope. One half of the money I received from your father from the agreement. You can use it to build houses or help centers. Whatever else you think the community needs.

Nick: So you are offering me $250 million with no strings attached. Can you understand why that would be difficult to believe?

Ashland: It is a real offer for a real donation.

Nick: You think this buys you some kind of absolution? You can go straight to hell. New hope doesn’t need your blood money.

Ashland: [ Chuckles ] Are you really so stubborn, so proud that you would turn your back on a quarter of a billion dollars? Just think about all the good that new hope can do with that kind of money. I am offering it to you and asking nothing in return. Only one caveat.

Nick: Here we go.

Ashland: I would ask that all the work be done in the name of detective rey rosales. I’m ready to transfer the money to the new hope account right now. You just give me the word.

It’s the most wonderful

time of the year

Nick: You don’t know me. I don’t respond well to bribery and I certainly don’t like dealing with people like you.

Ashland: You shouldn’t say no out of animosity toward me. At the very least, think about the offer.

Nick: See, whether you admit it or not, you’re hoping for some kind of redemption out of this, and I just don’t think the trade-off is worth the risk.

Ashland: So you would prioritize your hatred of me over the needs of your own organization?

Nick: [ Sighs ] You’re good. See, you know that if I turn this down, this community of need badly misses out, but if i accept it, then I’m complicit in your attempts to absolve yourself. It’s clever.

Ashland: Again, think about it.

Mariah: Thanks.

Sharon: The church is available to host a small service this afternoon.

Mariah: That’s perfect, and it even gives us time to get some refreshments, you know, to have here afterward.

Tessa: Yeah, mariah and I can take care of that.

Sharon: Um, I need to let faith know. I don’t want her to be thrown when she comes home from school.

Noah: I already texted her. She thinks it’s a great idea.

Sharon: And I think we should let chance and abby know.

Mariah: I can make up a simple program, so what kind of service do you think you want to have?

Sharon: Um…well, I’ve been thinking about what rey would want. Just something casual and loving, celebrating his wonderful life. Nothing formal or sad, just quietly joyful and, you know, that was the kind of man he was, after all. I want to do something that captures his spirit.

Mariah: We can absolutely make that happen.

Sharon: Tessa, would you sing one of rey’s favorite songs?

Tessa: I would be delighted.

Noah: And I could put together some family photos for a slide show.

Sharon: Yes, that would be lovely.

Mariah: And, mom, how do you feel — do you feel like you want to say a few words?

Sharon: Um…I don’t know if I’m ready to speak publicly about rey yet. Is that terrible? Maybe this is too soon.

Mariah: Mom, mom, it’s fine. You don’t have to.

Noah: Mom, no one is expecting anything of you, okay? One time I went to this service, and they set aside a time for quiet contemplation. If anyone was feeling compelled to speak, then they could. So there’s no pressure. You can share a spontaneous memory, good times, or, you know, just reflect on who that person was.

Sharon: That’s really beautiful. I love that, noah. And rey would really love that, too.

[ Sighs ] I’m so lucky that I have all of you here to support me when i need you the most, and I know that I am blessed to have such a strong and loving and talented family to support me at every turn.

Nikki: Nicholas, what brings you by?

Nick: You’re never gonna believe this one.

Victoria: What? What’s happened?

Nick: Ashland has gotten so desperate, he is trying to buy back his forgiveness by donating half of the money dad gave him.

Victoria: Donate? Where?

Nick: To new hope. And he said the money comes without any strings attached. But honestly, who’s gonna believe a world-class liar like him?

Victoria: Well, I mean, that’s a surprising move. What are the details?

Nick: Well, on the surface, it’s pretty simple. He is allegedly going to wire $250 million into a new hope account, which we can then use to build housing or support programs.

Nikki: Don’t tell me he wants to put his name on those buildings. That would be the most self-serving thing I’ve ever heard.

Nick: Well, here’s the ultimate chess move — he wants it done in the name of rey rosales.

Nikki: Oh, my god. How dare he take advantage of rey’s death to try to clear his name.

Nick: Which is why I want to walk away from this and tell him no. Ashland needs to see that he cannot just buy his way back into everyone’s good graces.

Nikki: Victoria, you’re awfully quiet. What do you think of this?

Victoria: I think it’s obvious. Nick needs to take every penny of that money. Facing expensive vitamin c creams with dull results?

Nick: Vick, come on. Don’t tell me you’re falling for this. He’s just trying to chip away at your resolve. Now he’s trying to seem compassionate? It’s a joke.

Victoria: Of course it is. But why not? Why not let ashland try to buy his absolution? Why not use some of that money and put it towards something good?

Nick: Everything he’s doing is to try and win back your forgiveness.

Victoria: Exactly. So let him try, because it’s never gonna happen. Not in a million years.

Nikki: Victoria, are you sure about that?

Victoria: I am more certain about that than I am about anything.

Nick: I mean, new hope’s mission is to help others, to try and change their lives. I can’t take his dirty money.

Victoria: Then think about the end game. Ignore ashland’s motives. Think about the good that that money will do in rey’s name. Isn’t that worth it?

Tessa: I still can’t believe that he’s gone.

Mariah: I know. I know, I’m just still trying to embrace the idea that we’re moving forward with this wedding when we’re still so devastated about losing rey.

Tessa: I am grateful that we get to be there for sharon during this awful time and that she asked for our help and told us what she needed.

Mariah: Yeah, at least we’re not standing around, feeling helpless. My mom said that this memorial is her way of saying goodbye and starting the process of letting go.

Tessa: I think we should take her at her word.

[ Rustling ]

Sharon: Rey. Rey.

[ Sighs ] I miss you so much.

[ Sighs ] You know, I should be mad at you for keeping that secret. But I can’T. I mean, I can never be mad at you again.

[ Sighs ] “Stop it — stop it, sharon. Stop it.”

[ Sighs ] At least that’s what you would tell me. You gave me so many pep talks when I was sick. Who am I gonna turn to now? I don’t know how I’m gonna manage without you.

[ Sniffles ] My precious husband. Somehow I’m gonna find a way.

Ashland: You really would never make a good poker player, would you? I mean, you just lay all your cards on the table for everybody to see.

Billy: Meaning?

Ashland: It’s abundantly clear that you’re still in love with Victoria. And it’s surprising to me that someone as smart as Lily hasn’t figured that out yet, but then again, maybe she has. Maybe she resents the fact that you keep barging in to protect your ex.

Billy: Lily and I are just fine. Thank you for your concern. And as far as Victoria, I am not worried about her ability to deal with you. She’s already proven that she can handle herself. My warning was directly to you for your own sake because you are playing with fire.

Ashland: You will never understand my relationship with Victoria. She’s not nearly as angry at me as you think she is.

Billy: Yeah, what about your ex-father-in-law? You know the one that stood there, watched you gasp for air while you were having a heart attack. And that was before he knew that you were lying about having cancer, screwing over his daughter. I’m pretty sure that you are on the top of his hit list right now, Ashland. And believe, it’s not a fun place to be.

*************************

Sally: Have you considered calling Victoria’s bluff? Because I find it hard to believe that she would give up on her dream job just because she has to share it with her smart, capable brother.

Adam: Have you met my sister?

Sally: Why is sneaking away to a hotel in the middle of the day so sexy?

Adam: Well, I think it is the juxtaposition of normal, mundane midday tasks with something amazing.

Sally: Mm-hmm, that was more of a rhetorical question, but thank you.

**********************

Billy: You’re up and around. That’s good to see.

Victoria: I’m walking, hooray.

Billy: Are you in pain?

Victoria: No, I — I am — I’m feeling okay. Guess I’m pretty lucky, all things considered.

Billy: Yeah. It’s tragic about Rey.

Victoria: I wish I hadn’t been out there driving on that road. Maybe things would’ve turned out differently.

Billy: You can’t think that way, Vick. It was an accident. It wasn’t your fault.

Victoria: Right. Many people have assured me of that.

Billy: Why were you out there on that road? That’s not your usual way home.

Victoria: I thought you said that you didn’t blame me, and now you’re asking me how I got myself into this predicament.

Young & The Restless Transcript

Transcript provided by Suzanne

Adam: Diane is alive? After all these years? Are you sure? Have you seen her?

Victor: Unfortunately, yes.

Adam: How in the hell did she pull this off? And where has she been all these years?

Victor: I don’t know the full story.

[ Knock on door ]

Adam: Why would she come back here?

Victor: She claims she wants to reunite with kyle. Who knows what her true motives are?

Sally: Um, hi. Is everything okay?

Adam: Someone we thought was dead a long time ago has just turned up alive and well.

Sally: I take it neither of you are fond of her?

Victor: Complicates matters. Since kyle now has married into my family.

Sally: Wow, so who exactly has risen from the dead?

Adam: Diane jenkins. Kyle’s mother.

Jack: Hey, how you doing?

Kyle: Seeing harrison always makes me feel better. He’s upstairs having a ball with his new bff traci.

Jack: Oh, I’ll bet he is. Traci has that effect on a lot of people.

Kyle: Such a relief knowing that he’s safe and sound and taken care of. Thank you and phyllis for spending time with him, too, while I’ve been getting my bearings.

Jack: Well, if I can speak for everyone else, it was our pleasure. We all love harrison and we all know how difficult it is for you to be face-to-face with your mother.

Kyle: I’m still no closer to making a decision about how to move forward.

Jack: Don’t rush that decision. Diane took years contemplating all of her possibilities before she sprung this on you. You take all the time you need.

[ Door opens ]

Nikki: Got your message. I assume you want to talk about my meeting with the logistics team.

Victoria: I actually want to talk about a different project — my father.

Nikki: Uh-oh. What happened after I left?

Victoria: Dad was trying to suggest that adam take ashland’s position as co-ceo. Of course, he framed the suggestion as a response to my supposedly fragile emotional state, which was infuriating.

Nikki: [ Sighs ] Sometimes your father isn’t the most tactful.

Victoria: It’s insulting.

Nikki: I agree. But maybe your anger should be directed at ashland.

Victoria: Well, at least ashland is no longer a threat, but you know who is — adam.

Nikki: I know you’re not gonna like hearing this, but adam is a big reason why ashland is no longer with the company.

Victoria: Yes, he used a half a billion dollars of dad’s money to make that happen, and even if it did work, that doesn’t entitle him to the co-ceo position.

Nikki: Well, none of us are happy about the lengths we had to go to to get rid of him. But the important thing is that our family is still a strong unit, and I want it to stay that way.

Victoria: You know what? Maybe you ought to save that speech for dad, since I left the ceo decision up to him.

Nikki: You did?

Victoria: I did. I told him that he could appoint as co-ceo if he wants to, but if he does, I’m out.

Billy: So I take it you’re staying here because victoria threw you out.

Ashland: Brilliant powers of deduction.

Billy: Why are you here at all? I mean, you’ve kicked to the curb at newman/locke, your marriage to victoria is being annulled. What’s the point?

Ashland: I have my reasons, none of which have anything to do with you.

Billy: Well, you better tell& me they don’t have anything to do with victoria.

Ashland: Again, none of your business.

Billy: I’m gonna need to insist that you stay the hell away from her.

Your mission:

My warning was directly to you for your own sake, because you are playing with fire.

Sally: So if this diane person is kyle’s mom, were she and jack married?

Adam: It never got there. She was married to my dad, though, twice.

Victor: Son, let’s not get into that, alright?

Sally: Well, it sounds interesting to me.

Adam: Well, she also dated nick.

Victor: Enough. Diane jenkins always was and always will be a dangerous person. And I wanted you to know that she’s in town and I wanted to warn you to stay away from her as far as you can. Lest she remind you of your connection with her and tries to wrangle something from you.

Sally: Wait, adam had a connection with her, too?

Adam: Not really. Look, I don’t want to have any contact with diane, so why don’t we drop that and we get back to your conversation with victoria?

[ Clears throat ] She didn’t seem very happy when she left here, so is there any chance that you were discussing me?

Victor: She’s not very fond of you, son.

Adam: I am aware.

Victoria: My brother is a snake, and from the moment that he agreed to come and work for me, he’s been looking for ways to undermine me. So appointing him co-ceo is just gonna make things worse.

Nikki: Your father sees things differently.

Victoria: [ Scoffs ] Yes. I know that, because he’s always had a soft spot for adam — or should I say a blind spot.

Nikki: Well, victor did take a risk setting adam up at newman media when nobody else thought it was a good idea. I have to admit that adam has been successful running that division and seems to have proven that he can be a reliable family member.

Victoria: Whenever it suits his purpose. Mom, are you making an argument for adam becoming co-ceo?

Nikki: Oh, no, not at all. I’m just stating the facts.

Victoria: Oh, gosh. I guess it’s pointless. I know dad is never gonna see adam the way that I see him. It’s never gonna happen. But…

Nikki: But what?

Victoria: But what if i agreed that I could use a co-ceo and then I hire someone that dad would have to concede is a far better choice?

Nikki: Good luck finding that person.

Victoria: I think I already have. I’m looking at her.

Jack: You know, if you need someone to run all of this by, I’m happy to be a sounding board.

Kyle: Appreciate that. And I will take you up on it at some point, but I’ve spent a lot of time talking about it today.

Jack: Wait, with whom?

Kyle: First traci, then mariah. Look, I ran into her while I was out, and I wasn’t planning on telling her what was going on, but then we started talking and I ended up spilling my guts.

Jack: I’m sure she’s as shocked as the rest of us are.

Kyle: Of course. It’s just so bizarre.

[ Exhales sharply ]

Jack: All the more reason for you to take your time. You have to get past your own shock in order to make a decision that could impact the rest of your life.

Kyle: I still have so many questions.

Jack: I know you do, son.

Kyle: Problem is, there’s really only one person who can answer them.

Jack: Would you like me to go with you?

Kyle: Mnh-mnh. I think my mother will be more forthcoming if it’s a one-on-one talk.

Jack: I agree. Good luck.

[ Cellphone rings ] Hello?

Ashland: Jack, it’s ashland. Can we meet? I have something important I’d like to discuss with you. I was on an antidepressant,

Adam: I don’t know why victoria continues to see me as a threat to her.

Victor: You don’t think you bear some responsibility for that? When you had the brilliant idea of paying ashland locke $500 million for him to get the hell out of our lives? It bought us some time, you know? But you did all that without consulting any of us. You did it behind victoria’s back, as well. And that she didn’t like.

Sally: Well, if adam had gone to her, she never would’ve gone along with it.

Victor: Probably not.

Adam: Okay, but in the end, we all worked together to neutralize ashland, right? Shouldn’t we continue to do that? Isn’t that what you want — a big, happy family working together?

Victor: You’re absolutely right, okay? Now, I encouraged her to assign you as co-ceo of the company.

Adam: Oh, I can only imagine how that went over.

Victor: She refused to entertain that idea. She said she’d rather resign than have you be co-ceo of newman/locke.

Nikki: I don’t know how to respond to your offer.

Victoria: Well, I hope that you will accept it. I mean, you are quite literally the only person that I trust to be on equal footing with me.

Nikki: Normally, I would be very flattered, but I don’t know how I feel about being a pawn in your game with your father. He’s gonna know what you’re up to.

Victoria: And that’s okay with me. I’m not trying to hide the fact that I want to thwart his plan to promote adam. And the brilliance of you becoming co-ceo is that, you know, dad will have to agree that you are the most qualified and the most experienced candidate. I mean, you’ve been my coo from the very beginning. You understand my vision. You support it. And most importantly, especially for dad, as far he’s concerned, you’re family.

Nikki: [ Sighs ] I was just saying I don’t want to see anymore strife among us. I certainly don’t want to be in the middle of it.

Victoria: You’re not really going to turn down my offer, are you?

Diane: Kyle. Please come in.

Kyle: Are you leaving?

Diane: Oh, I wasn’t planning to, but after our conversation, I thought it might be a while until I hear from you again, so I wanted to give you space.

Kyle: Mm.

Diane: Unless, of course, you’ve had a change of heart.

Kyle: I wouldn’t say that. And don’t read too much into this. I’m not here to declare my forgiveness or anything, but i have some questions. A lot of them.

Diane: Okay. I’m ready to answer any and all of them.

Kyle: They really all boil down to one. How can I know you’ve really changed?

Jack: Hey, there. I don’t have a lot of time. Dealing with a bit of a family situation at home. If my phone should ring, I may have to run.

Ashland: I appreciate you making the time at all.

Jack: I assume this is about harrison. You want to spend more time with him while he and kyle are in town.

Ashland: Sort of, yes. I take it you haven’t spoken to your brother or heard the news?

Jack: About what? Wait, don’t tell me your medical condition has taken a turn for the worse.

Ashland: No, no, that’s not the case. Um…uh, there will be some news surfacing about me soon, i think. Um…I have done some reprehensible things. They’ve come back to bite me. Nothing I don’t deserve, but i want to make sure that harrison is impacted as little as possible.

Jack: Why don’t we stop dancing around the subject and you just tell me what it is you’ve done?

Ashland: [ Sighs ]

Want a worry-free

way to kill bugs?

Victoria: Now, before you say no, just try to envision yourself as co-ceo, because, oh, you would be brilliant. We already work well together, so that transition would be perfectly seamless. And you know what? You are always telling me that i take on too much and I work too many hours, so what better way for me to ease up than for you to just jump right in and take some of this work off of my plate.

Nikki: Honey, I know you would be happy to do that, but would you let me? Because I get the feeling that this would be a promotion in name only, just to fend off adam.

Victoria: No. Mother, this is a sincere offer. I would be so excited to partner with you. We would have so much fun.

Nikki: Well, I don’t know how much fun it’ll be once your father finds out.

Victoria: I think it is the greatest idea. And you know what? Dad is gonna kick himself that he didn’t think of it.

Nikki: Alright, okay. Before we even entertain this idea, we have to think about the possible repercussions.

Victoria: I have already done that. I have, and they’re all positive. Mom, it would only strengthen the company.

Nikki: Adam’s not gonna be happy. He thinks he deserves more responsibility, and your father agrees. So do we really want to create more family drama just as the news about ashland is about to break?

Victoria: I am not going to let adam’s potential hurt feelings dictate my decisions. My hope is that we can keep the reason for ashland’s departure from becoming public knowledge.

Nikki: Well, we’ve been able to keep it quiet so far, but very soon, it’s gonna get out. So shouldn’t we prepare for that by presenting a united front to the world?

Victoria: Yes, and that is exactly what we would be doing. Our partnership would be a partnership that would have longevity. Look, if I cave in and I agree to work with adam, mom, how long do you think that’s gonna last, really? He’s gonna be continually trying to sabotage me and I will be playing defense, and then the entire family will have to choose sides. And then it will create this warfare. It will be an absolute disaster for the family and for the business. You know I’m right, don’t you?

Sally: Have you considered calling victoria’s bluff? Because I find it hard to believe that she would give up on her dream job just because she has to share it with her smart, capable brother.

Adam: Have you met my sister?

Victor: The last thing we need right now is a public conflict over control of the company.

Adam: So what does that mean for me? That there’s no chance of advancement and all these ideas that I have to further the company’s success are just gonna die?

Victor: Son, think this through for a minute. Victoria was ceo of newman/locke when she brought you on board, alright? She still is. Nothing has changed. What you have to show her now is that you are loyal to her, that she can trust you, that you will work with her. You have to convince her of your ideas — your very good ideas.

Adam: Well, it looks like i have my work cut out for me.

Victor: You do.

Ashland: I lied to victoria and to everyone about my cancer diagnosis. I was never sick. I never had cancer.

Jack: What? Why would you —

Ashland: To speed things along. The newman/locke merger, my marriage to victoria.

Jack: That is horrifying.

Ashland: Yes, it is. And when I think back on my recklessness and my…my cruelty, I am disgusted with myself.

Jack: I couldn’t care less how you feel. What about victoria? She opened her heart to you. She let you into her family. She thought you were going to die. I have lived through the death of a spouse. I have some idea of the anguish, of all she was preparing for. For your sake. Only to find out this was a hoax?

Ashland: It wasn’t entirely a hoax. I genuinely fell in love with victoria.

Jack: I don’t want to hear this. I’m sure victoria doesn’t either.

Ashland: I have agreed to have my marriage annulled. I have agreed to walk away from the company. I’m doing everything I can to make this as easy on her as possible. I — [ Sighs ] Even though I know it’s too little, too late.

Jack: Boy, there is a colossal understatement. I hope you’re going back to new york or wherever, and stay out of her life forever.

Ashland: That’s part of why i wanted to talk to you. I didn’t want to leave town without seeing harrison, and I’m worried about how kyle and summer might react when they hear the news.

Jack: You damn well should be.

Diane: I don’t expect you to trust me or believe me — not now, maybe never. And if that’s the case, I’ll have to accept it because i brought it on myself. Kyle, I — I deceived you when you were growing up with what in my mind were good intentions. I just — I wanted you to see the kind and loving version of myself, the one that made you the center of my universe.

Kyle: It worked. I thought you were the best mom ever.

Diane: Yeah, and that’s why i was so angry with phyllis when you read that exposé she had written detailing my exploits.

Kyle: Yeah, to be honest, I’ve never been able to reconcile the two versions of you. This sweet, sensitive, incredible mom that I knew and the version of you that I read and heard about. Who blackmailed people, committed arson, and destroyed relationships and never seemed to care.

Diane: You are seeing both sides of me now — the good and the very, very bad. So go ahead, I’m — I’m an open book. Ask me anything. If you have type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Billy: The majority of my listeners will never cross paths with the so-called elite of the business world. Well, consider yourself lucky. I had a run-in today with a man who shall remain nameless, a mogul who seemingly has everything and yet he still wants more and more. And he lies and manipulates to get it. I mean…this guy takes and takes until he sucks everyone around him dry, as if it’s gonna make him feel more powerful. I mean, if you ask me, it’s like he doesn’t trust his own business acumen so he has to lie and deceive to get his upper hand, causing pain to everyone close to him. And he thinks he’s gonna get away with it. And who knows, maybe he will. But if he does, if wealth and power offers a person blanket immunity, is that not an indictment on all of us?

Adam: Well, that diane thing kind of threw me.

Sally: Yeah, it was pretty crazy. But nothing you haven’t heard before, right? Or experienced? You and diane have that in common, the whole used-to-be-dead thing.

Adam: Well, there were quite a few similarities between diane and the man that I used to be.

Sally: Do tell.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Another time. Right now I’m more focused on what dad told us about victoria. I miscalculated. I thought dad was gonna be ready to throw her in the penalty box for the mess that she created with ashland.

Sally: Yeah, but instead, victor feels protective of her. Though it does make sense to me after the accident. He almost lost her.

Adam: Yeah, well, that hit him pretty hard.

Sally: But on the bright side, victor seems to have your back. He was championing you to victoria, and winning him over was definitely not a given. That is a huge accomplishment in and of itself, so now you only have to win your sister over.

Adam: Sure, no problem. Victoria is very stubborn. It’s a newman trait.

Sally: Well, you are very charming and persuasive. So those must be newman traits, too.

Adam: Well, I’ll see how far they can take me. Wish me luck.

Sally: You won’t need it.

Ashland: Look, I — I know what you must think of me. My behavior has been abhorrent. Except in one area — I have been a good father to harrison.

Jack: Oh, have you? You lied to that little boy about being sick.

Ashland: Jack, there are two people in this world I love, period. Harrison and victoria. Now, my wife may never forgive me, but I can’t lose my son. I will do whatever it takes to keep that boy in my life.

Jack: And you want me to advocate on your behalf to kyle. Why would you think I would want to do that?

Kyle: What kind of work did you do on yourself in la? When we talked before, you mentioned therapy.

Diane: Oh, I got a whole bunch of it. Along with everything else under the sun. Oh, but I — I finally found a psychologist who called me out on my crap. She really forced me to look at myself, and she had zero patience for my excuses.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] How’d that go?

Diane: [ Chuckles ] Well, uh, terribly at first. I was offended and indignant, and that first year, I stormed out of my sessions in a huff more often than not. But somewhere inside of me, i knew that what she was saying was true. You know, I wasn’t a victim. I was a narcissist. I made everything about myself. And through a lot of self-realization, I realized that that had gotten me nowhere. I mean, none of the things that I was so desperate to get — money and power and attention and affection — had ever come to me. You know, instead, my behavior had left me…broke and anonymous, invisible, and, um… alone. And worst of all, it cost me the one pure unselfish joy I had ever known — my life with you. My beautiful son. It was crushing. But it was also the first step on a long, hard road that eventually brought me back here to you, to ask you for your forgiveness.

Kyle: I can appreciate what you’re saying and understand how difficult it is to admit. But what if all the work you did still doesn’t get you what you want? What if I say no? She’s feeling the power of listerine.

Ashland: Jack, you and I are both at an age where we’ve seen a lot of life. We are both mature enough to recognize that people are complicated. We can do admirable things in one aspect of our lives and despicable things in another. Nothing is black and white.

Jack: I have heard enough of this sick, twisted reasoning lately. I’m done with it. You find somebody else to make your case.

Ashland: Okay. I understand. I will talk to kyle directly.

Jack: No, no, no, I would recommend you not do that, trust me. Now is not a good time to go to kyle seeking forgiveness.

Diane: Nothing’s going to happen if you turn me down. I’ll go back to la and I’ll leave you alone.

Kyle: Really? After all the effort you made to reunite with me?

Diane: You matter to me more than anything. But I’ve learned what a mistake it is to try and force people to give me things I didn’t deserve. And it never worked anyway. So you don’t owe me a thing. I’m grateful that you were open enough to hear me out. And would I love it if you were willing to forgive me and I had a place in your life? Of course I would. And I would also love the chance to try to make up for some of the hurt and damage that i caused.

Kyle: I just don’t know if that’s possible.

Diane: I know.

Kyle: I-I-it’s not that i don’t want what you say you want. I do. You’re my mother. I’ve never stopped loving you, and I’ve missed you every day since you’ve been gone, but I’m still trying to figure out if the version of you that i remember ever actually existed or if it was just an act you were putting on because you needed adoration from someone who was too young to know better.

Diane: Kyle, you have to know that my love for you was never an act. It was the only good part of myself.

Kyle: I think…I’m willing to leave the door open wide enough to give you a chance to prove you are who you say you are.

Diane: Really?

Kyle: Yes. Please don’t go back to la.

Diane: Oh, kyle.

[ Knock on door ]

Adam: Hey. I don’t mean to intrude, but i was hoping that you had a minute to talk.

Victoria: For you, I’ll make the time.

Adam: [ Clears throat ] Um…dad filled me in on your conversation. So I wanted to come by and clear the air. First of all, I want you to know that I was surprised to learn that he asked you to promote me as co-ceo.

Victoria: Mm-hmm.

Adam: If I had known, i would’ve asked him to hold off until you and I could have a conversation.

Victoria: And what conversation would that me?

Adam: The one where we hash out if we can work together. One where I could convince you that I could make a good partner.

Victoria: Are you going to offer me $500 million of someone else’s money to give you the promotion?

Adam: [ Scoffs ] Look, what I want to say is the company has almost doubled in size since the acquisition with ashland’s business holdings, and your workload is gonna increase by that much. You’re gonna need some help. I know that we’ve never been close. I know that you don’t trust me. No matter how much I try to support you and the family. There is just a whole lot of history in the way. I’m here to see what I can do to change that. And to show you that us working together could be a positive thing.

Nikki: I just had a very surprising conversation with victoria.

Victor: Oh. Surprising? Amazing how she keeps us always on the edge, doesn’t she?

Nikki: She does. Brace yourself, because you will find this very surprising as well.

Victor: What?

Nikki: She offered me a promotion.

Victor: Wait a minute, there’s only — only one title ahead of the one you have right now.

Nikki: That’s right. She offered me the co-ceo job. And I accepted.

Victor: Really? From the very first touch.

Victoria: You know, it doesn’t really matter how or when dad pitched me the idea of promoting you. I — I was never going to agree to it. However, I did listen to what you had to say, and you are right. My workload is going to increase. I actually might need some help now that ashland’s out of the picture.

Adam: Well, if the title thing is tripping you up, i don’t — I don’t need it, at least not now. I’m just happy to pitch in and look at this as an opportunity to see how well we could work together if we tried.

Victoria: Oh, I’m sorry if i gave you the wrong idea. I didn’t mean to imply that i needed your help. I’ve decided to take on a partner. Someone that I can trust.

Adam: You’re going to hire someone new as your co-ceo?

Victoria: Yes. In fact, I already have.

Adam: Who?

Victoria: Well, the only logical choice. My mother.

Nikki: I know you wanted adam for the job, but just think about it for a minute before you respond. My stepping into the position makes a lot of sense.

Victor: Mm-hmm. Very smart move on victoria’s part.

Nikki: Of course, you and i both know that it was the strategic move to keep adam out, but I will do an excellent job.

Victor: Yes, my baby, I’m sure you will. And you will lend this company the stability that it needs right now, desperately.

Nikki: So you won’t fight victoria on this?

Victor: No. If I impose my will on her, she will be very upset, and if i prefer adam over her, I’ll never hear the end of it.

Nikki: I’m happy you can see that.

Victor: Madame ceo.

Nikki: [ Chuckles ]

Victor: This makes me very happy. My beautiful wife running the company. Oh, boy.

Nikki: [ Chuckles ] I don’t think you have to worry.

Victor: I’m not.

Nikki: [ Chuckles ]

Victor: Because I’ll keep on looking over your shoulder. You know that.

Nikki: Like always.

Victor: Always.

Jack: How did it go? How was your talk with your mom?

Kyle: I’m not sure. I’m still conflicted. I threw a lot of questions at her, and she gave me what seemed to be honest answers.& It was intense. Um, dad…I told her I would give her a chance to prove herself to me.
