Traci: I can see that the fantastic weather was too much for either one of us to resist.

Diane: Yes, much too nice to stay cooped up inside. Actually, I was hoping that kyle and summer might feel the same way. I ran into them here yesterday with harrison. I thought I might get lucky again.

Traci: Well, I’m sorry to disappoint you, but harrison’s gonna be busy elsewhere today. Summer found a children’s musical activity she thought he would just love.

Summer: No, I mean, we didn’t buy it for a second. It’s kind of hard to believe that diane just happened to be at the park when kyle and I were there with harrison.

Phyllis: Yeah, right. Well, good for you. Don’t believe anything she says. She’s a liar. I hope you told jack.

Summer: Of course we did.

Phyllis: Good. Good. Because her, you know, showing up at the park and showing up at the wedding, those are all red flags. He needs to keep his guard up.

Summer: Okay, how did this suddenly become about jack?

Phyllis: Because jack needs to protect his family and his grandson, harrison. He needs to protect everyone. He needs to stay vigilant. I mean, this woman, she just cuts through all boundaries. Just —

Summer: And you want to protect jack.

Phyllis: Yeah, of course i want to protect jack.

Summer: I mean, I get it. He’s your friend. You’re looking out for a friend.

Phyllis: Yeah, I’m looking out for — okay, um…hmm. I mean, jack and I — jack and i may be a little more than friends. It just — these days.

Summer: Wait, are you — mom, are you trying to tell me that you’re sleeping with my father-in-law?

Phyllis: Shh.

[ Door opens ]

Kyle: Hey.

Jack: Hey, I was wondering where you and summer were.

Kyle: She dropped harrison and the nanny off at a kids’ thing, and then went to see her mom.

Jack: I’m glad she’s spending some time with phyllis. Her mother has missed having her close by.

Kyle: Mm, it goes both ways. She worries about her mom being too lonely, and we’re glad you’ve been keeping phyllis company.

Jack: I’m not the only one. She’s got plenty of friends.

Kyle: Come on. I saw the dynamic between you two at the wedding. And come to think of it, you never did say why you were out so late afterward.

Jack: I think I know where this is headed, and I’m gonna stop you right now, because it’s none of your business.

Kyle: Ah, there it is. All the confirmation I need that you two must have been together.

Nikki: So, mr. Chairman of the board, you don’t have to worry about your co-ceos being out of the country.

Victoria: That’s right. We’ll be in frequent communication with the executive team. The minneapolis deal will be finalized, and the real-estate negotiations will continue as well.

Victor: Well, you didn’t have to go into all that detail. I trust that both of you will handle things.

Victoria: I just want to make sure that you’re very clear that we have everything under control so that if the thought that you might need to bring adam in as temporary ceo —

Nikki: Darling, I don’t think that even occurred to your father. He’s very supportive of us getting away for a few days.

Victor: I think it’s a hell of a good idea for both of you to get away. Especially you, my darling. Get out from under that dark cloud of ashland locke.

Nikki: [ Sighs ]

Ashland: Well, actually, i was hoping to have a word with victor.

Victor: I paid you a hell of a lot of money to never have to look at you again. Yet here you are.

Victoria: Ashland, would you please just leave us alone?

Nikki: Actually, it’s time for victoria and me to get going anyway. We still have quite a bit of packing to do for our trip.

Ashland: Well, how long are you going to be gone?

Victoria: We haven’t decided yet, but that shouldn’t make a difference to you.

Victor: Hope you realize there’s no longer any need for you to throw your dark — your bad shadow over this town.

Diane: It was so moving seeing kyle with his family yesterday. My little boy all grown up, a husband and a father himself. It was amazing. And summer was so good with harrison. You would never guess he wasn’t her child.

Traci: Well, yes, they have a very deep bond. Harrison was really close to his biological mother, and I’m sure that it was quite bewildering for him when she left so abruptly. Fortunately, he was way too young to realize she was being arrested, but [Sighs] I’m sure that it’s been really hard for his little mind to comprehend.

Diane: Yeah, he must miss her desperately.

Traci: But summer has really stepped up. She filled the void in his heart. She and kyle have given him all the love and security he so desperately needed. I — it’s obvious. Otherwise, he’d be a very different child today.

Diane: I don’t need to be reminded how much it hurt kyle when I left. I live with that pain every day.

Phyllis: You’re not upset that I’m spending time with jack, are you?

Summer: Uh…I’m just kidding, mom. I mean, it’s pretty obvious that jack is way more to you than just my father-in-law. I mean, you guys go way back, long before I was even born. Plus, jack is the best. I mean, he’s kind and wonderful. And I know that he’ll be careful with your heart.

Phyllis: Yeah. Yeah, he will. We’re taking it slow. I mean, it’s very, very new. Um…you know, we haven’t told the general public about this, by the way.

Summer: Is that because you’re worried about people judging you and dredging up your painful history?

Phyllis: Uh-huh, yeah. But, you know, summer, I’m — I’m a different woman now. You know, I’m a new woman. You know, I’m a woman that’s — that’s good for jack now. You know? And jack trusts me.

Summer: Good.

Phyllis: Yeah.

Summer: I mean, you deserve this, mom.

Phyllis: Okay.

Summer: You really do. You both do.

Phyllis: Oh, thank you. Thanks, babe. Oh!

Kyle: Come on, dad, there’s no reason in holding back. Summer’s with her mom right now, and you know she’ll return with all the details, anyway.

Jack: Okay, fine. Phyllis and I are merely testing the waters.

Kyle: Oh. Is that what the kids are calling it these days?

[ Laughs ] Alright, alright, I’ll stop giving you a hard time. I actually think it’s great news. Summer and I have thought for a while now that you and phyllis still had a connection. It’s about time you guys went for it.

Jack: Please don’t read too much into this. Who knows where this is going? For copd,

Traci: Diane, I am not making comparisons between you and harrison’s biological mother. That might be your conscience talking. But I would never want to make you feel worse than you already do. I believe you that you’re sincere, you have regrets about choices you made in your past. I would never pile anything else on.

Diane: I apologize. I just — I just jumped to conclusions. I…

[ Sighs ] Lately, everywhere I turn, i face hostility, and I know i deserve every bit of it and I — I thought I was prepared to face it, but just the constant incoming fire has me — just has me feeling a little defensive.

Traci: Okay. I understand that this is a very difficult situation. But, diane, you have literally had years to reconcile the past and put everything in perspective, and the people that you’re dealing with now, they’re just — they’re just trying to organize the idea that you really exist. They’re trying to wrap their minds around the fact that you faked your own death.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Traci: I mean, you’ve opened up some old wounds. You might want to pace yourself.

Diane: You’re not the first person to advise me to be patient.

[ Sighs ] I keep reminding myself that i am not entitled to anyone’s forgiveness, that it’s something I have to earn if I want to be accepted again.

Traci: Exactly, and it’s not gonna be easy.

Diane: No, and it’s not going to take overnight, considering all that I have to make up for.

[ Sighs ] But seeing kyle with his family, I could just envision myself being part of it. You know? That’s — that’s all i want. I just want to be there for him now the way I should’ve been all along.

Jack: So you and summer are moving back home? I’m almost afraid to hope.

Kyle: No, no, no, no. You don’t get to change the subject that easily. Something’s off here.

Jack: What does that mean?

Kyle: You and phyllis have been growing closer for months. At mariah and tessa’s wedding, you two were dancing and smiling like you were the newlyweds.

Jack: I wouldn’t go that far.

Kyle: And now that you’ve taken things to the next level, you’re kind of downplaying the whole thing. What’s up with that?

Jack: What do you expect, gene kelly dancing in the rain?

Kyle: Don’t tell me there are problems already.

Jack: No, no. No, I am delighted with the way things are going. We just don’t know where they’re going yet.

Kyle: See, there it is again. Why do you keep anticipating that everything could go off the rails? Usually, someone in a new-again relationship is optimistic and anticipating nothing but happy days ahead.

Jack: When you get to this stage in life, you know better than to get ahead of yourself. I am going to enjoy this — whatever “this” may be.

Kyle: Okay. If there were to be a problem, what do you think it would be?

Phyllis: Okay, enough about me and jack, enough about that. So let’s get back to diane. So, at the park, how’d she act? I mean, did she get — did she get in front of harrison and say, “hi, I’m your grandma”? Did she do that?

Summer: No, I mean, diane was on her best behavior, and it really moved kyle. He couldn’t help it. It reminded him of how she was with him when he was harrison’s age.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. Right. I see what she’s doing. She’s doing the sweet act. That’s what she’s doing.

Summer: [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: She knows to take someone’s vulnerabilities and to exploit them, and you know what? She’s gonna do the same thing with jack.

Summer: How?

Phyllis: She knows that jack adores his grandson, so she’s gonna use harrison. It’s their common bond. “We have a grandson, jack. That’s what we share together.”

Summer: Okay, you’re not worried that diane’s a threat to your relationship with jack, are you?

Phyllis: Of course not.

Summer: Okay, good, because there’s no chance in hell that that would ever happen.

Ashland: I’m sure you’re not interested in hearing me out, but I’m hoping you will, because I owe you an apology.

Victor: Should be entertaining. Hope you have a good story. Sit down.

Ashland: I doubt you’ll trust anything I have to say, but i feel compelled to say it anyway out loud and for the record.

Victor: Hmm. That’s a hell of a preamble. Proceed.

Ashland: What I did to victoria was despicable. It was horrible, and I’ll regret it to my dying day.

Victor: You mean till the day that you actually die, is that it?

Ashland: Your daughter is the best thing that ever happened to me. And I should have treasured her. I did, in fact, but unfortunately, that realization came too late. And now because of my own greed and my own arrogance, I may have lost her.

Victor: Not “may.” You did lose her, ashland locke. What you did was unforgivable. And she will never forgive you. What can I du with less asthma?

Phyllis: I’m not concerned about diane. I know how to handle diane.

Summer: Well, you know that jack is only tolerating her for kyle’s sake, because he believes that he has a right to make his own decision about her.

Phyllis: Yeah, but guess what? I’m the one who told jack to do that in the first place, by the way.

Summer: But, I mean, given her horrible track record and all of the underhanded things she’s pulled, you’ve got to know that she holds no appeal to him.

Phyllis: No, I get it, but you know what? Jack, he, when he found out that she was alive, wanted to cut her out of the family completely.

Summer: Well, that ought to tell you everything you need to know.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] I know this woman, summer. I have history with this woman. She is a horrible human being. Horrible. But she is a genius at psychological warfare.

Summer: Mom, you are pretty good at that yourself.

Phyllis: Thank you. So you already said that she’s making inroads with kyle, right? You said that just now. That’s what she does. She takes any little soft spot, any little weakness, and she exploits it, and she’s gonna do the same with jack.

Summer: But jack already knows how devious she can be.

Phyllis: No, he is doubting his instincts, summer. He’s already doubting his instincts. I was talking to him the other day, and he was saying, “oh, maybe we should consider that diane has really changed.” I mean, no, I can’t do that. This is really concerning me.

Summer: Mom —

Phyllis: I can’t go through this again.

[ Sighs ]

Summer: Mom, look at yourself. You’re getting so wound up. I mean, you may think that constantly on edge is the best way to protect your relationship with jack, but it is not. It’s self-sabotage.

Jack: I’m not suggesting things could fall apart for phyllis and me. Far from it. If that were the case, I would never have let it get this far. I’m just done trying to predict the future. And that’s not a bad thing. It has left me open to some pretty fabulous surprises. Among them, what happened the other night.

Kyle: Wait, that was a surprise? Really?

Jack: I know you and summer are busy patting yourselves on the back for seeing all of this coming, but it could just as easily have gone the other way. In fact, we came very close to deciding it wasn’t worth the risk, that we were gonna just try to save our friendship, and until very recently, phyllis was more likely to err on the side of caution.

Kyle: Okay. What’s different now?

Jack: Honestly, I keep asking myself the same question. Why the sudden change of heart. Is it just a coincidence that it all seemed to happen when diane walked back into our lives?

Diane: [ Sighs ] Traci, by any chance, have you spoken to kyle or summer about me? I mean, have they given you any idea which way they’re leaning? May– maybe they’re open to forgiving me or not?

Traci: [ Sighs ] I am so sorry. I know that this is a very difficult situation for everyone. And I feel for you, but I don’t want to mislead you in any way.

Diane: Oh, no, I understand. I’m — I’m not asking you to betray any confidences. I just wondered if there was anything at all you could tell me.

Traci: The only thing I can say is what kyle has told you himself. He’s torn, and he’s gonna need some time to process his feelings. And this is not a decision he would ever make lightly.

Diane: No, that’s the sense I’ve been getting from him as well. My son is a very serious and thoughtful young man. I’m sure he’s going to consider all the ramifications before he makes up his mind.

Traci: That’s my nephew.

Diane: Yes, I think if it was just the two of us, he might’ve already decided to give me a second chance, but with his wife and son, he — he needs to take everything into account.

Traci: Diane, rather than worry about all of this stuff, I wish you could take solace in the amazing young man your son has grown up to be. He is someone that you can be so proud of. And whatever decision he ultimately makes, it will be because he has thought it out, thought it through, and knows in his heart it’s the right one for himself and for everyone he loves.

Diane: And I promise, whichever way he goes, I will respect it.

Traci: And the abbotts will, too. Now, I really do have to get going.

Diane: Oh, traci, thank you for taking the time to talk with me. It really means a lot, especially since there are so few people in this town that have anything to say to me at all.

Traci: Diane, you said it yourself — you have a lot to make up for.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Victor: That’s a hell of an apology.

[ Chuckles ] Pathetic. You better get out of town because no one here wants anything to do with you, least of all victoria. She’s sick and tired of your glib apologies, your glib promises.

Ashland: You know, in the past, we talked about what we have in common. Our backgrounds, our outlook on life.

Victor: Has it ever occurred to you that I might have suspected that you did that to manipulate me into feeling sympathetic with you, to gain my confidence?

Ashland: You’re wrong. I freely admit I lied about the cancer, I lied about the treatment, but the rest of it — the abusive father, starting out with less than nothing — that was all true.

Victor: Have you ever listened to yourself? You lied about your cancer. That comes across your lips like nothing. Who does that? Who lies about cancer? And now you’re using your miserable childhood as an excuse?

Ashland: No. Men like us don’t hide behind excuses. We own up to our mistakes. In fact, you wouldn’t be where you are in your life today if it hadn’t been for your wife and your children forgiving you for some pretty ugly sins of your own.

Victor: Do me a favor. Stop comparing yourself with me. Is that an attempt to win some points with victoria? She’ll laugh at you.

Ashland: You seem to be forgetting something — victoria loves me.

Victor: Oh. She trusted you, she loved you — past tense. You lied to her! I will never forgive you for that. You broke her heart. You broke my daughter’s heart. Now you get the hell out of town, or else.

Ashland: That sounds like a threat.

Victor: That’s not a threat, that’s a guarantee. I will do anything in my power to protect my family. One piece of advice for you — don’t you push me to that point.

Kyle: Why would there be a connection between my mother coming back and you and phyllis getting together?

Jack: I’m just struck by the timing, and keep in mind, there is a lot of contentious history between the two of them.

Kyle: Okay, are you saying they’re at it again?

Jack: No, I’m saying phyllis wants her out of town, and she has told her as much, adamantly insisting it happen soon. I just can’t help but wonder if, maybe subconsciously, she’s trying to tell diane that there is nothing for her here if she decides to stick around.

Kyle: Does she think my mother came back hoping to make something happen with you? Wait, do you think that?

Jack: No, there’s no hint that that’s where diane’s thinking is these days, but, even if that were the case, it wouldn’t matter. It’s not gonna happen in 1,000 years. And…the two of them are just naturally competitive with each other.

Kyle: But you don’t think that’s why phyllis spent the night with you?

Jack: No. No, of — no, don’t get me wrong. I’m very clear on how phyllis feels about me. She’s — she’s made it quite clear.

Kyle: You’re veering dangerously close to the tmi land.

Jack: Then let’s change the subject. What’s going on with you and your mother?

Kyle: [ Sighs ] Every day, there’s a little moment or incident that makes me think she might really be sincere. But I can’t help wondering if I’m just seeing what I want to see.

Jack: Sounds like you’re trying to justify actually giving her another chance.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] Sorry, dad. I know that’s not what you and definitely not phyllis want to hear, but that’s honestly where I am.

Phyllis: Self-sabotage — seriously? Summer, really? That’s not what I’m doing, by the way. I’m keeping a watchful eye on diane.

Summer: And on jack. I mean, you’ve already admitted that you’re monitoring his reactions to her. You’re worried about her tugging on his heartstrings. And you’re looking out for any sign that her old tricks are working on him. I mean, it kind of sounds like… oh.

Phyllis: “Oh,” what?

Summer: Is that why you dove back into this romance with jack? Was it a jealousy thing?

Phyllis: Are you serious right now? Really? I mean, why does everybody think that? Why does everybody think that i would be with jack because of diane, that viper? I mean, amanda, she insinuated the same thing, and by the way, no is the answer. No, you’re both wrong.

Summer: Okay. I mean, if you say so.

Phyllis: Okay? Thank you. I would never do something like that. I would never use jack just to get back at diane. Oh, my gosh, is that what you think of me?

Summer: Look, all I know is that you do have a tendency to obsess and then overreact.

Phyllis: Okay, I’m not doing that. I’m not overreacting right now. Okay? My relationship with jack is built on — on honesty and — and trust. You know, it has nothing to do with diane. Nothing to do with her.

Summer: Okay. I’m glad to hear it.

Phyllis: Good. Good. I don’t — I don’t want to talk about this. This is — this — this whole conversation is screwing up my mother-daughter time with you. Let’s talk about something else, please.

Summer: Okay, what would you like to discuss?

Phyllis: Marchetti. Let’s talk about marchetti.

Summer: Okay. Well, I don’t know, let’s just say that maybe it was a good thing that you didn’t accept my offer to come out to milan.

Phyllis: Oh, really? Why?

Summer: I don’t really want to talk about it right now, but just know that, one way or another, I’m gonna figure it out.

Phyllis: Alright. I believe in you.

[ Chuckles ] So what about harrison? I mean, can we talk about harrison? Is he a safe subject?

[ Both laugh ] Is he enjoying his grandpa jack?

Summer: Oh, my gosh, yes, he is. I mean, grandpa jack spoils him so much, I can’t even believe it. And somehow, somehow, he seems blissfully unaware of all the turmoil that’s going on around him, but I just don’t know how we’re gonna explain this whole ashland thing to him.

Phyllis: Oh, ashland thing? Oh, wow, I thought something was going on between ashland and victoria, because he’s staying here.

Summer: Wait, are you kidding right now? You don’t know about this?

Phyllis: No. About what? Wait, I’m totally out of the loop.

Summer: [ Scoffs ] Apparently, ashland lied about having cancer. It was all a hoax.

Diane: Thank you.

Nikki: You’re still in town, despite everyone’s advice and warnings. What’s the hold-up? Is your broomstick in for repairs?

Diane: [ Scoffs ] “Advice”? “Warnings”? I think the word you’re looking for is threats. And, yes, I’ve ignored every one of them because the only opinion that matters to me is my son’S.

Nikki: Oh, really? Well, I highly doubt it’s kyle’s opinion that matters to you, as opposed to his bank account. Hey, it’s me…your skin.

Phyllis: This is rich. I could’ve called this one. Seriously. The locke ness monster — what a horrible person he is, using cancer.

Summer: [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: Using cancer to trick victoria into marrying him so he could take over the company. Amazing.

Summer: It’s beyond heartless.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. It’s beyond. How’s victoria? Is she okay?

Summer: Mm, well, we ran into her at the park right after we laid down the law with ashland, and she covered pretty well, but she must be in a state of shock underneath it all.

Phyllis: I mean, I bet she’s thinking of all those times billy and nick tried to talk her out of marrying him. You know? Telling her repeatedly, “don’t trust him.” I bet this is keeping her up at night.

Summer: Mom, I hope that there’s not even a tiny part of you that is enjoying this.

Phyllis: No. Of course not. This is horrible. I would never wish this upon my worst enemy. I mean, victoria and I, we’re not friends, but this has got to be so painful. How’s nick taking it?

Summer: We haven’t really had a chance to discuss it yet. I mean, it’s not like he was gonna bring it up at mariah and tessa’s wedding reception, and before that, he probably didn’t want to upset me when I was thousands of miles away.

Phyllis: Yeah, I mean, there’s nothing you can do about it.

Summer: But obviously this affects harrison, too. I mean, kyle and I are going to have to do everything we can to protect him from this man who clearly has zero compassion or ethics.

Phyllis: This is a lot for you to deal with, babe. It is. It’s a lot.

Summer: Yeah.

Phyllis: Fending off diane and ashland at the same time.

Summer: Don’t worry, mom. We’ve got this.

Phyllis: You might think you’ve got this. You don’t know who you’re dealing with.

Kyle: I guess I should be grateful that ashland allowed harrison to leave the country while he tried to get his greedy claws into newman enterprises, but it just disgusts me. It’s proof he never cared about harrison like he claimed. And that’s so sad for my son. At least now I don’t have to feel guilty about keeping them apart.

Jack: Oh, I think he’s still gonna put up quite a fight.

Kyle: Why would he? He no longer has to pretend harrison is important to him.

Jack: I’m sure the newmans are hoping he will slink off in defeat, but from my conversation with him, I don’t think that’s gonna happen. No, he wants to re-establish himself in harrison’s life. In fact, I think he looks at that boy as the only good thing that’s left in his life.

Kyle: Oh, so harrison is his back-up family now that he’s destroyed everything and his life has fallen apart? Well, I won’t stand for that.

Diane: I understand why you’re still angry. I know I have a long way to go to make up for the truly horrible things I’ve done.

Nikki: Well, guess what. I don’t want anything from you. All I want is for you to disappear. I mean, that is your specialty, right? Maybe this time you can manage to do it without stealing a corpse and framing half the people in this town for murder.

Diane: [ Scoffs ]

Nikki: Oh, I’m so sorry, am i embarrassing you? Oh, well, no, that can’t be because you and I both know that you have no shame. Otherwise, you would be long gone. Instead, you’re here, hanging around, hoping that the son you abandoned will take pity on you.

Diane: Please leave kyle out of this.

Nikki: Why should I? He’s the only one who can rescue you from the mess you’ve made of your life.

Diane: I don’t need rescuing. I rescued myself. I came back because I’m strong enough to handle —

Nikki: Okay, you know what, diane? Don’t bother with any more of your lies. We all know why you’re here. You are a professional gold-digger.

Diane: That’s not true.

Nikki: Oh, yes, it is true. Your new life didn’t work out the way you wanted it. Now you’re broke, so here you are throwing yourself at kyle’s feet, hoping you can con your way into the abbott fortune.

Diane: This has nothing to do with money.

Nikki: I suppose you can keep preying on his emotions if you like. But kyle is a very smart, savvy young man. He’s gonna see right through you. In fact, he’ll probably tell you to your face that he was better off when you were dead.

Diane: [ Gasps ]

Nikki: Ah!

Diane: Oh! Of course you’ve seen underwear that fits like this…

Phyllis: Summer, I don’t think you get this. I don’t think you realize how vicious and conniving diane can be. I mean, need I remind you that she tried to frame me for multiple felonies?

Summer: Mom, I am not underestimating her. If anything, she is the one that’s underestimating me. She is the one that doesn’t know who she’s dealing with. Because I inherited that protective gene from both sides of my family. So if she does come after us, she’s got a double dose of trouble just waiting for her.

Phyllis: I mean, I like to see this. I like to see this mama bear coming out.

Summer: Yeah, there is absolutely no way that I’m going to let that total narcissist hurt my little boy like she hurt my husband.

Phyllis: Okay, good, good. I mean, I hope she takes my subtle encouragement to leave and go back to la so you don’t have to deal with your mother-in-law anymore.

Summer: I’m dying to know what you said to her to encourage her to leave.

Phyllis: Well, don’t worry about that. You can thank me later if it works.

Kyle: So all of our divisions are back operating in the black.

Jack: After all the trouble locke put us through, we fought our way back.

Kyle: Might be a good time to think about an expansion project.

Jack: Hello.

Traci: Oh, good, you’re both here.

Jack: How was your walk?

Kyle: What was she doing there?

Traci: Well, she was hoping for another chance encounter with you and harrison.

Jack: Well, I guess that’s better than her showing up here unannounced.

Kyle: I can’t believe my mother was just hanging out, hoping we’d pass by. What did she have to say?

Traci: It meant a lot to her to meet her grandson. Apparently, harrison has stolen her heart. But I also think that it has hit home in a whole new way how much she’s missed. So I told her that kyle needed a little more time to work through his decision.

Jack: Michael baldwin and i both gave her the same advice the other night after the wedding. Maybe I should’ve been more firm.

Kyle: Maybe it means i shouldn’t leave her hanging. It must feel like a defendant waiting for the jury to come back with a verdict.

Jack: Wait, none of this is your fault. She put herself in this situation.

Kyle: Yeah, that’s no excuse for me to drag this out.

Jack: Kyle, if you hear yourself putting her needs, her feelings ahead of your family’s, I hope alarm bells go off in your head. Keep in mind, she is an expert at focusing everyone’s attention on her.

Nikki: Don’t you ever raise your hand to me again.

Diane: Like this?

[ Both shouting indistinctly ]

Victoria: Mother! Stop it. Stop. What is going on? What? Diane? Oh, my god. How is this possible?

Diane: Oh, I thought everybody in town knew that i was alive and well. I’m surprised your parents didn’t tell you.

Nikki: I didn’t want to burden you with the pain of knowing that that bitch is not six feet under.

Diane: Oh, and congratulations on all your success. I followed your career from afar.

Victoria: Seriously? I come in here, you’re attacking my mother? You can spare your phony praise.

Adam: For my hard-working coo? Take a few. What’s going on? Looks serious.

Sally: [ Sighs ] It is.

Adam: Well, this is why we make such a good team, because we understand each other.

Sally: You think you can read my mind?

Adam: [ Sighs ] Hmm. You are concerned with matters of the heart because you know if we get victoria and ashland back together, my father will never see her the same way, and he will have no choice but to remove her from newman enterprises.

Sally: Not even close.

Adam: You got another fire for us to put out?

Sally: This is about an entirely different family business — chancellor-winters. They’re gonna be major competition for us, and I’m just wondering if there’s enough room in this town for both of us.

Lily: Okay, we have to do more than just come up with a playlist for the party.

Billy: Whoa, whoa, I’m sorry. This is not just a playlist.

Devon: No, not at all. This is the soundtrack for the entire event. It’s like one of the most important elements of the night.

Billy: And a major part of our branding. People are gonna hear this and they’re gonna think, “chancellor-winters.”

Devon: Yeah, and then all of a sudden, they’ll be dancing.

Billy: Ooh, they’re dancing. And balloons and confetti coming from the ceiling. We have a vendor for that, right?

Lily: We do, yes.

Billy: Okay, that’s right. Where are we dancing again?

Lily: Grand phoenix ballroom.

Devon: Hey, now.

Billy: A fantastic place for a party.

Devon: That’s right. We got a great guest list, don’t we?

Lily: Yeah, we do — best and brightest, big power players in business, media, the boards of philanthropic organizations we work with.

Billy: All people we want to work with in the future.

Devon: That’s right. How about press kits? Do we have that?

Billy: Yeah.

Lily: We do. I have it covered.

Billy: Have we thought about for the people that aren’t gonna be able to make it?

Devon: Well, we can stream it live on a couple of our platforms. We can show all the interviews, talk about the history of both companies, katherine and neil.

Billy: I mean, that sounds like a slam dunk to me.

Devon: Yeah, then we just launch this company into the stratosphere and let the world know that chancellor-winters has arrived.

Lily: Man, oh, man. Gentlemen, this is the beginning of a new era.

[ Chuckles ] For all of us.

Devon: That’s right.

Sharon: Oh, you took the best photos of the wedding, noah. Oh, look at that one. Mariah and tessa look so in love and so beautiful.

Adam: Hello, dad. Uh…yes, I understand. Well, thank you for letting me know.

Billy: Okay, so I think it’s time to focus on some more important matters.

Lily: Okay, what do you have in mind?

Billy: Well, we need to get clear on our messaging. We need to make sure that all our divisions are in one place and they know what they’re doing, and most importantly, we need to land on our logo.

Devon: Mm.

Billy: It’s gonna be everywhere. It’s gonna represent us, and it needs to be good.

Devon: Absolutely. I think that it should represent family unity, right? We’re a new company, but we’re also familiar to people. Brother and sister.

Lily: Yep, forging a new legacy.

Devon: Yeah, I love that.

Lily: This is really gonna work, huh?

Devon: Hell, yeah. I can see katherine and neil looking at us right now.

Lily: Oh, yeah, they’re probably just wondering what took us so long. But I know they are loving this.

Devon: Yeah.

Imani: You were so wonderful, helping us find a doctor to help care for our mother.

Amanda: Yeah, but she called us today and informed us that she’s having more frequent heart palpitations.

Imani: And I’m worried that this could be an indication of a more serious heart problem, which would put her at a higher risk for a stroke.

Amanda: But I am trying to warn imani not to jump to the worst possible conclusion.

Imani: I’m sorry we all can’t be stoic about this.

Amanda: Just because I don’t burst into tears at the mere mention of —

Imani: I’m scared, okay? And I am not gonna apologize for how I feel.

Amanda: I’m just saying that we should wait and see what her doctor has to say.

Nate: Have you scheduled an appointment?

Amanda: No, not yet, but naya did give him permission to contact us, and he’s gonna share any information that he learns from her latest evaluation.

Nate: And how’s she doing otherwise?

Imani: According to mom, she’s been taking her medication religiously and keeping a careful record of her symptoms.

Nate: And there’s no previous indication of heart disease or any other serious condition?

Amanda: No, no.

Nate: Then it bears repeating that thousands of patients live with a-fib and it’s completely treatable.

Amanda: Which means no need to panic.

Imani: It’s always nice to hear it from a doctor’s mouth.

Nate: Okay. Don’t panic.

Imani: Thanks.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Amanda: Oh, it’s — it’s mom’s doctor.

Nate: Take it.

Amanda: I’ll be right back. Hello? Yes, this is amanda sinclair.

Nate: Did you want that to be a three-way call?

Imani: No, amanda’s the right one for this. She’s better at keeping her heart out of the matter. When it comes to me and my mother, I get so emotional.

Nate: Yeah, I understand. I’m close to my mother as well.

Imani: Amanda cares for her very deeply, but it’s different for me. That woman raised me. She taught me everything I know. She’s been a part of my life since I took my first breath. And since my grandfather went to prison, we’ve gotten even closer.

Nate: Makes sense. There’s no one around to control you. You’re free to have a different, freer kind of relationship.

Imani: Mom’s afraid. I know it. I can feel it. And I believe you when you say that her condition might not be dire, but I just can’t stand the thought of losing my mother now. My moderate to severe plaque psoriasis…

Nick: Yeah, I’m gonna make beverages in the festive variety for all of us.

Nate: Are you feeling better now?

Imani: Thank you so much.

Elena: Hi. I thought you had a meeting at chancellor tonight. I decided to pick up dinner for us on my way back from the hospital.

Nate: Wow, great minds think alike. I was gonna grab you some dinner, then steal a kiss or two, then head back to my meeting.

Elena: Oh, well, that’s so sweet of you. Thank you. So did imani volunteer to carry your takeout bags or…?

Nate: [ Chuckles ] She is here with amanda. Their mother got some troubling news about her health.

Elena: Oh, I’m sorry to hear that.

Nate: I did my best to try to convince her that everything should be okay. Thank you. Why don’t I drive you home so you can dig into your food?

Elena: No, no, no. You get back to your meeting. I’ll stay and offer my doctorly advice in case they have any questions.

Amanda: Elena, hi.

Imani: What did the doctor say?

Amanda: Well, he said that there is no cause for concern because there is no evidence of any serious underlying condition.

Nate: Does he want you to schedule additional check-ups?

Amanda: Yeah, just to monitor the situation. And mom has to call if she has any other episodes.

Imani: So she’ll be alright?

Amanda: If she follows her doctor’s orders, she will be fine.

Imani: [ Sighs ] Thank god.

Elena: That’s great news.

Nate: Did you want me to give devon an update?

Amanda: No. I just — I didn’t get a chance to tell him about this, and i wanted to wait until I had more information. And he has so much on his mind right now. I just —

Nate: Okay, I’ll leave that up to you, then.

Amanda: Thank you.

Nate: I’ll see you later tonight.

Elena: Yeah.

Amanda: Night, nate.

Nate: Night.

Elena: You ladies mind if i join you for a drink?

Amanda: No, no, absolutely not. Please.

Adam: Victoria and nikki are going out of town so victoria can “clear her head.”

Sally: She’s going on vacation?

Adam: It must have been terribly stressful for her to realize that she almost handed over the company to her con artist husband, and then was saved by yours truly. I mean, the poor woman, she deserves a little downtime at a european spa.

Sally: The self-care rituals of the rich and powerful.

Adam: Why can’t dad see that she’s unfit to run newman?

Sally: It’s up to us to open his eyes.

Adam: Well, victoria and ashland are never gonna find their way back to each other if she’s on a different continent.

Sally: Yeah, but how long does a spa trip take, a week, two?

Adam: She can’t come back soon enough.

Sally: You really want this to happen fast.

Adam: Victoria and ashland are clearly interested in reuniting, so I just would appreciate if they would stop avoiding the inevitable and move it along.

Sally: Okay, let’s just take a minute and consider another option. Perhaps this trip isn’t actually an obstacle in our path. What if it’s a blessing in disguise?

Sally: From the looks of things, ashland isn’t going anywhere. We’ve only started laying the groundwork to convince him not to give up on victoria and victoria to forgive him.

Adam: So how does my sister’s stay at a european spa help us achieve our goal?

Sally: Distance makes the heart grow fonder, and all of that. The more distance victoria puts between them, the more she misses him.

Adam: Do you really believe that? Or are you just trying to talk me down?

Sally: [ Sighs ] We have to be patient. We knew from the beginning this was going to be a slow and challenging scheme.

Adam: Well, the more time that passes, the less predictable things are gonna become. We cannot fail.

Sally: Because if we do, you will not become the ceo of newman enterprises.

Adam: And you will lose you shot at becoming ceo of newman media. I know how much you’ve enjoyed your brief tenure in that chair.

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Adam: Can you really live being stuck in second place when you know how good it feels to be number one?

Nick: [ Sighs ]

Noah: That mocha was —

Sharon: Surprisingly delicious.

Nick: Why are you shocked? I was an owner of this place, too, at one point.

Sharon: No, I’m just saying.

Nick: You think it was a fluke? Fine, I’ll make you another.

Sharon: No, no more caffeine. I will not be able to sleep tonight.

Nick: Okay, I’ll skip the caffeine and go right to just a tower of whipped cream. Chocolate shavings, little cherry on top?

Noah: Oh, it is your favorite part of any drink.

Sharon: It is not.

Nick: It most certainly is. We have many photos proving that you love whipped cream. Lots of memories. You love all things frothy, sharon.

Sharon: Okay, fine, guilty as charged. But no more drinks.

Nick: Alright. But you could do some chocolate.

Sharon: Now you’re talking.

Both: Double fudge brownie.

Noah: Coming right up. And by that, I mean dad will go get one for you and for me, ’cause we both know how much you hate eating brownies alone.

Nick: I live to serve.

Noah: And make sure that’s floating on top of a giant cloud of whipped cream, okay?

Sharon: With a cherry on top.

Noah: And there’s an extra little tip in it for you if you dance it out to the table.

Nick: Oh.

Imani: I hate this feeling of helplessness, like there’s nothing we can do for mom.

Elena: That’s not true at all. There’s plenty you can do. You can go with her to all of her appointments.

Amanda: And I will check in on her more often, I promise.

Imani: At least we have friends like nate and you, of course, elena, to hold our hands through all of this.

Elena: It’s difficult being called on to care for our elders when we’re used to being the ones who are cared for. I moved in with my uncle jett when he got sick, until he was back on his feet, and I remember feeling really scared, not knowing what was gonna happen next. But in the end, he recovered. And luckily, I ended up starting a whole new life here in genoa city.

Imani: Are you saying you originally came to town for your uncle?

Elena: Yeah, yeah, a few years ago now. That’s actually how I met devon. His sister ana is my uncle jett’s daughter.

Imani: And you and devon were together for quite some time.

Elena: I don’t know if I’d say all that.

Imani: Ah, and then you started dating nate. But, you know, I never heard the juicy part in the middle of the story. Like, why did you and devon call it quits? I mean, if you don’t mind sharing.

Elena: [ Chuckles ]

Devon: I was about to send out a search-and-rescue team for you.

Nate: I’m sorry that took longer than expected.

Billy: No harm, no foul as long as it’s as good as it smells.

Nate: I hope you managed to nail down some details while i was gone.

Devon: Yeah, we were actually able to accomplish a lot.

Billy: Yeah, I’ll e-mail you a bunch of notes that I took.

Nate: Thanks. You know, I’ve been thinking a lot about this, not just the launch, but some of the ideas we discussed about the company moving forward.

Lily: Yeah, let’s hear it.

Nate: Well, this merger’s gonna generate a lot of attention, and I think you need to promote the company not just as a family business whose combined entities will continue to make an impact on a regional and national level, but one that’s going to —

Lily: Prepare for global domination?

Nate: Yes, absolutely. Go big.

Devon: Big? You sound like a real risk-taker, man.

Nate: [ Chuckles ] Why not?

Devon: Well, I mean, we’ve always known you as a guy to be really more like a “follow the rules” type of dude, you know?

Lily: I know. Who knew that nate was this business phenom just waiting to be unleashed?

Devon: Been suppressing all this pent-up frustration or something?

Nate: No, no, I wouldn’t say I was frustrated before. It’s more like I’m filled with an aspiration I never knew existed until now, you know?

Lily: Wow.

Nate: So please raise your expectation.

Lily: Wow, okay, you hired him.

Devon: I — no, that was you, actually.

Nate: It was a group decision. You brought me into the fold, and I intend to make the two of you and neil very proud.

Lily: Aww. [ Chuckles ] For people who are a little intense about hydration.

Imani: I didn’t realize it was top secret.

Amanda: Maybe you didn’t realize, but my sister has a really hard time knowing when to stop.

Imani: No, we’re all friends. What you say will not be used against you.

Amanda: Why don’t we just change the subject?

Elena: Okay, hey, hey, hey. It’s fine. I don’t mind talking about it.

Imani: Oh, okay, good. Tell me all the details and don’t leave anything out. What? She said she doesn’t mind.

Elena: Okay. Unfortunately, as much as devon and I loved each other, I think we were growing apart.

Amanda: That is elena’s polite way of saying that it is all my fault.

Elena: That is not true.

Amanda: Okay, 65%. My job brought me to town, and little did I know, I looked exactly like devon’s deceased wife.

Imani: Mm, hilary.

Amanda: Yes.

Elena: Her twin. But none of us knew that at the time.

Amanda: If it wasn’t for nate pushing me to get that dna test…

Imani: So you were dating nate and you were dating devon. How did everything end?

Elena: Nate and I worked together. We spent a lot of hours in the clinic together. And he was just really kind and supportive when it felt like devon was pulling away from me. And one night, we gave in to our attraction.

Imani: No. No, you didn’T.

Amanda: Imani, just —

Imani: No, I’m just saying neither you nor nate seem like —

Elena: The type of people who would do something like that. Yeah, we didn’t think so either. But I guess there’s just something undeniable between us.

Imani: That must have been a very painful time for everyone involved.

Elena: It was. For amanda, as well, since she was seeing nate at the time.

Amanda: Yeah, but we weren’t serious.

Elena: Still, it was a betrayal.

Imani: So how did devon find out?

Elena: I told him everything.

Imani: He must have been furious.

Elena: Yeah, and rightfully so. He ended things with me and he got in a huge fight with nate. Permanently injuring his hand. That’s actually the reason why nate can’t perform surgery anymore. And it’s one of the reasons why he’s chosen to change his career path.

Imani: Which brings us to now. Amanda and devon, you and nate. That’s incredible. After all the people who got hurt and the lives that were forever changed, you guys are all so close again. That says a lot.

Amanda: So do you, imani. Too much.

Imani: [ Chuckles ] Well, it’s good to know that time really can heal some wounds.

Elena: Yeah, time and a lot of hard work to earn forgiveness. But I think everything worked out how it was meant to.

Imani: Hmm.

Elena: And not only are we neighbors, but we are also friends.

Amanda: To good friends who have already been through the worst.

Elena: Yes, so the best is yet to come.

[ Laughter ]

Nate: We burned through more than half the items on our list.

Devon: We sure did, and i suggest that we leave the rest of the decisions for tomorrow. Tackle them in the morning.

Lily: Oh, come on, really? We just got our second wind. You’re gonna leave?

Nate: You and billy work together and live together. You’re not constantly trying to carve out some time for your partner the way I am.

Lily: Okay, fine, whatever. Get out. Go home.

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Billy: Alright, thanks, guys. We’ll see you tomorrow.

Devon: Night.

Lily: Bye. Good night. Well, that was a productive meeting.

Billy: Yeah, it was good.

Lily: Anything else you want to say about it?

Billy: No, I think everybody’s on the same page.

Lily: Are we, though?

Billy: What exactly do you mean by that?

Lily: Well, it just seemed like after nate got here, you were kind of in a mood.

Billy: I was in a mood? Why would I be in a mood? No.

Lily: Well, I mean, the other day, devon mentioned that you might be uncomfortable because you’re the only person in the c-suite who’s not family and was wondering if you feel awkward about it.

Billy: And now you’re wondering the same thing.

Lily: Well, I mean, it was in the back of my mind, and now it is in the front of my mind when I saw how quiet you got when we were all chatting. So are you really okay with this merger?

Billy: I am so excited to be a part of this team. I really am. Just as much today as I was when we first started, okay? But the truth?

Lily: Always.

Billy: It’s a little bit difficult sometimes. You know, when you and your family, you and your brother, batting it around a little and you’re baiting each other, it’s great, I love it, you know? I think it’s wonderful, but it’s just a reminder every time, when you start talking about neil, that I’m not part of the family. And maybe that means my position here at the company is not quite as important, you know? The passion that you have, it comes from a different place.

Lily: Yeah, but your contributions are just as important to me as nate’s and devon’S.

Billy: Well, thank you. I appreciate you saying that. Look, this is just something i need to figure out on my own. You know, I need to find my place in this new structure, that’s all.

Lily: Anything I can do to help?

Billy: No, you’re good. I’m gonna do it on my own, but thank you.

Lily: Okay. Well, take all the time that you need.

Sally: Let me give it to you straight.

Adam: I expect no less.

Sally: I didn’t just enjoy my all-too-temporary reign as ceo of newman media. I loved it, every minute of it.

Adam: I am aware.

Sally: Because I love working and creating and seeing a vision through, and, yes, I won’t deny, I enjoy the power. So if having that again is off the table, then I will have to tell you that I’m out. I’m gone, and I will strike out on my own. But I can’t say that, because I’m not going anywhere.

Adam: Well, then I guess i better make sure that I show you how much I appreciate you sticking around.

Sally: You took a leap of faith on me, hiring me as your coo. And it is my absolute pleasure to be your right-hand woman. Staying here at newman media with you is my top priority.

Adam: It’s good to know that I have you in my corner.

Sally: You’ve got me wherever you want me. So no more talk of possible failure. Only positive thoughts and plans.

Adam: Well, you are the expert at seeing five moves ahead. What do we now?

Sally: This. Of course you’ve seen underwear that fits like this…

Billy: What is the nature of insecurity? You know, that feeling that you’re not enough — where does that come from? Maybe it’s a — a rational awareness about your own inabilities. Maybe it’s a little self-pity. Could probably be a little bit of ego in there. You know, not enough people telling you just how great you are. And, look, maybe that is too harsh and maybe that is too cynical. This could simply be a byproduct of the human experience. Whatever it is, I imagine most people want to feel the ground underneath their feet. They want to know that they’re in the right place at the right time, doing the right thing. And that’s the challenging part because there is no one that is going to be able to tell you if you are. That truth…

[ Sighs ] That truth lies with you. Which brings you right back around to insecurity and the wonder — where is your place in this world?

Sharon: That was so fun.

Nick: Well, I know it’s not paris, but…

Sharon: But you got me laughing and I got to see you dance again.

Nick: Well, consider yourself lucky. Not many people get to see that twice in one week.

Sharon: Thank you. It was nice spending time with family. I wish faith could’ve been here, but she’s off with moses.

Nick: You mentioned an empty nest earlier. It’s gonna be hard on you when she leaves, right?

Amanda: But nate and naya’s doctor, they both say there’s nothing to worry about, at least not yet.

Amanda: Well, that’s — that’s actually because I asked him not to. I wanted to be the one to tell you. I wanted to wait till you were done with all of your business for the day. I didn’t want to distract you.

Devon: You’re never a distraction to me. Don’t ever think that, please. When something happens to you, it happens to me, too.

Amanda: Well, I don’t want you to drop everything for every minor emergency.

Devon: It’s not about me dropping everything. It’s about you not holding back if you have something to share. People can cover for me if things get rough. Lily’s there. She can cover. It’s fine. If you have something to talk about, talk to me.

Amanda: I know, but —

Devon: Do you? I’m serious. I want to be there for you, alright? Never doubt that for a second.

Billy: When is insecurity just a passing phase and when does it become a chronic flaw? What’s it take to get yourself out of that place you find yourself in? You feel alone, I get it. Most importantly, I feel that way, too.

Sharon: I know I won’t really be alone when faith goes off to college. I’ll have mariah.

Nick: And what about noah? You just have to think about dinner and he shows up.

Nick: No. See? Baby bird’s never leaving the nest, no matter how badly we want to kick him out. Plus, you’re forgetting about someone.

Nick: Me. I’m not going anywhere. And if you get lonely and you want to hear the pitter-patter of little feet, you can always come over and hang out with christian.

Sharon: Does he still like to have his bedtime stories read to him?

Nick: He can be convinced. Especially if it’s you.

Adam: Well, that was quite the diversion.

Sally: [ Chuckles ] Now we can talk about what our next move is to get ashland and victoria back together.

Adam: While making sure dad doesn’t know what we’re up to.

Adam: He’s having ashland watched, so we could get caught up in that surveillance.

Sally: Well, then we will just have to be very, very careful. Stay off of victor’s radar.

Adam: His goal is to get ashland as far away from genoa city as possible.

Sally: Can’t any of your dad’s hobbies keep him busy, like a golf tournament or a boxing camp?

Adam: A crisis — a crisis that would take his focus off of ashland and force it elsewhere.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] I don’t think harrison even noticed us asking ashland to leave. He’s easily distracted by the ducks.

Summer: But if we stay in genoa city, it’s going to be difficult to keep him sheltered from disagreements like that. There aren’t enough ducks to keep him distracted forever.

Kyle: Yeah, well, maybe we’ll catch a break and locke will leave town on his own accord.

Summer: But we can’t count on that. Who knows what ashland’s going to do next? And living in milan makes it easier to protect him from unwanted interference.

Diane: Hello, you two. What a coincidence running into you here.

Kyle: I doubt it’s a coincidence at all.

Esther: Oh, the man who messaged me on the dating app lives here in genoa city.

Chloe: What does he do?

Esther: Mm, he’s in marketing.

Chloe: Hmm, that’s vague. What’s his name?

Esther: Dwight. Oh, he looks quite handsome in his profile photo.

Victor: I think the trip will be wonderful for both of you. Get away from this mess here for a while. Things will look different when you come back.

Ashland: Well, actually, i was here for breakfast, and i somehow left my credit card here, so I dropped by to pick it up.

Michael: Oh. If only I had known, I would’ve gotten here earlier and claimed it for myself.

Ashland: Mm.

Michael: That would’ve been quite a shopping spree. Oh, the things I would’ve bought.

Ashland: If you’re hurting for money, I would suggest you talk to your employer.

Michael: Oh, I’m not short of cash. I just think it’s fun to imagine what I could purchase if I were a billionaire like ashland locke. I mean, could I go to south america and buy testimony from doctors? Or entire towns’ police departments?

Ashland: Are you accusing me of these things?

Michael: Maybe. Or maybe I just have a rich fantasy life. You know, I had a lot of time to imagine scenarios when I was stuck in a peruvian jail for weeks.

Ashland: Right, you mentioned you had a rough time down there.

Michael: That’s a wild understatement.

Ashland: Well, if there’s anything I can do to help you put those memories behind you.

Michael: There is, actually. Leave victoria alone. In fact, leave town. Because if you don’t, I’ll be forced to take a series of, you know, unfortunate legal actions against you on victor’s behalf, and I am so trying to avoid that extra work.

Victor: All I was suggesting is that for your mother and you to get away for a while from all this madness around here might be good. You know, you come back with a different perspective.

Victoria: No, I don’t think that’s what you meant. I think that you’re still eager to punish ashland.

Victor: And why does that concern you?

Victoria: Look, we’re just gonna have to accept the fact that he’s going to be staying in town indefinitely. I’ve already ran into him a few times, and I have no desire, none at all, to lock myself in newman tower to avoid him. We’re just gonna have to find a way to co-exist in the same city.

Victor: He’s trying to win you back.

Victoria: No, daddy, that’s not why he’s still here. It’s because of harrison.

Victor: Now, that’s patently absurd. Harrison lives with kyle and summer in milan. They’re only here temporarily. If ashland locke isn’t leaving, then it is not because of the boy.

Victoria: Well, whatever reason, we have to assume that he’s here for the immediate future.

Victor: I will not tolerate that. The man has done too much damage around here.

Victoria: I am not going to debate ashland or his theoretical plans. He’s out of the company. My annulment is almost final. He can’t do our family any more harm.

Victor: Sweetheart, if you still have feelings for that man, he can do a lot of harm.

Victoria: Mom, what did you tell dad?

Ashland: Victor and the rest of the newmans keep trying to scare me into leaving town. It’s not working.

Michael: Clearly. You’re still here.

Ashland: Well, I have my reasons for being here. My son is here, and no one’s gonna keep me from him. Listen, I suggest you tell your boss to save the ridiculous legal fees I’m sure he’s paying you and just…let it go. Live and let live, that kind of thing.

Michael: Sure. I will tell victor newman to turn the other cheek. I think the last guy who told him that is actually missing his cheek. You should know who you’re dealing with by now.

Ashland: I’m not looking for a fight, michael.

Michael: It’s a little too late for that, don’t you think?

Ashland: I have no plans to interfere with victor or any of the newmans.

Michael: Even victoria?

Ashland: [ Sighs ] Okay, I deeply regret the pain i caused victoria. Listen, I know you’re not gonna believe a single word that I say right now, but I’m gonna say it anyway. I absolutely do not want to be the source of any further hardship for victoria, okay? She’s made up her mind about me, and I can’t change it. And I’m done trying.

Michael: I wish I could believe you.

Ashland: I was just explaining to michael how deeply I regret some of my actions that may have hurt victoria and others.

Ashland: And I am willing to make amends to anyone who will listen, including the two of you.

Lauren: I’m sure there’s some simpleton who would actually believe that. But I can’t imagine that victoria would be falling for it. I’m certainly not falling for it. I know what kind of man you are.

Ashland: Right. Michael, I apologize for what you went through and I apologize for how you were worried about him.

Lauren: Save the apology, unless, of course, it’s coming at the end of a written confession.

Ashland: That’s not gonna happen.

Lauren: I didn’t think so either. So, you know, I helped send your ex-wife, tara, to prison. And I’m gonna try my best to do the same for you.

Michael: [ Chuckles ] That was more fired up than I’ve seen you in ages.

Lauren: What’s going on here? Why are you even talking to him?

Michael: I had something to say to him, just like you.

Lauren: You’re not gonna stop working for victor, are you?

Nikki: Victoria, I have not betrayed your confidence. What we discussed remains private.

Victoria: Well, then why did you say that?

Nikki: Because your father knows you well enough to sense what you’re going through.

Victor: I suspected you still have feelings for that S.O.B. Your reaction confirms it now.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Yes, okay? He still has a place in my heart. And I’m just finding it hard to let that go. But I will. I will, dad. Every — every time I run into him, I’m — I’m fighting off these feelings. And, no, that doesn’t mean that I’m gonna fall prey to his manipulations. My anger far outweighs any affection that I still have for him, but I am just — I don’t want to spend all this energy being angry at ashland and despising him. In fact, I don’t want to feel any emotion for him at all. I want to exorcise him from my brain and from my heart. Which is exactly why we’re going to switzerland. I think a little time away will do just that.

Kyle: Hey, buddy, there’s someone I want you to meet. This is diane. I knew her when I was a little boy like you.

Diane: [ Sighs ] Hello, harrison. You remind me so much of your daddy when he was your age. Your smile is just like his. You know, I like that leaf. It’s big. But where I come from in california, we have palm trees, and those leaves are as big as me.

Summer: Kyle, we should go. We need to get back.

Michael: My approach is all boring legalese. It’s a ton of paperwork. I’m gonna bury the man in legal procedure, and — and this time, it’s not gonna be anymore dangerous than filing a motion.

Lauren: Nothing risky at all?

Michael: No, no, and if there’s any hint that it even approaches a line, I’ll quit, I’ll walk away.

Lauren: Is that right?

Michael: Yes. Now, can we enjoy some of the quality time I promised you by ordering brunch?

Kyle: Well, all things considered, I think it went about as well as we could’ve expected.

Kyle: Mm, I think I need some sugar in my coffee. Harrison, we’re gonna step over here and fix our coffees. Do you need anything? Cool. Here’s the thing — yes, it threw me when my mother showed up, but it wasn’t that bad, was it? I thought she respected my boundaries.

Summer: Maybe her turning up at the park was a coincidence, but I think we need a game plan for if she orchestrates more meetings like that in the future.

Kyle: Okay, you’re right. We need to establish rules and guidelines.

Summer: You have such a big heart. You want things to work out with diane so badly. I’m just — I’m afraid that she’s gonna take advantage of that. That she’ll push for more access to harrison. Unless…you want to give her more access?

Victoria: Yes, yes, we are. Ashland. I don’t want to hear about him or your plans. In fact, all I want to focus on right now is our trip to switzerland.

Michael: Oh, lauren and i just came back from france. It was rejuvenating. I mean, it gave us a total shift in perspective. I needed to have some time off to put some recent unpleasant… activities behind me. That trip really gave me some clarity.

Victoria: I’m glad to hear that. I’m hoping for a similar reset. But if we’re gonna go, I should get home and start packing for our trip. Mom, will you come with me?

Nikki: Of course. We’ll talk later.

Victor: Bye, sweetheart. What have you come up with?

Michael: Oh, I think I found a solution for getting ashland out of town. Entresto is the number one heart failure brand

Michael: I think we hit ashland with a barrage of legal actions — civil suits exposing his fraud.

Victor: Unh-unh. I don’t think we should expose his fraud. That would reflect badly on victoria. Make the company look weak.

Michael: But it will never get to that. It won’t go public. He’s too terrified of what we could find in the discovery phase. No, we’re gonna make things so uncomfortable for ashland that he is gonna give in and he’s gonna agree to leave town. In fact, I ran into him and suggested that we would hit him with legal action if he didn’t get out of genoa city.

Victor: How did that go over?

Michael: Well, he seemed determined to stay, so I think we should begin the process immediately. We’re gonna bury that man in legalities. He is going to spend a good chunk of your good-riddance money on lawyers. We’re gonna make this so expensive, time-consuming, and painful for him that’s he’s gonna surrender and we will force him to leave town as part of the settlement.

Victor: That’s your plan? I don’t believe it.

Michael: What don’t you believe?

Victor: You’re playing it safe. And I think I know why.

Ashland: [ Sighs ]

Diane: Are you okay?

Ashland: Um, I’m fine. Why do you ask?

Diane: Oh, you just look how I feel.

[ Chuckles ]

Ashland: Well, normally i have a pretty good poker face, but you caught me off guard.

Diane: You must have a lot on your mind.

Ashland: I do.

Diane: Me too. But I get it. Sometimes it’s just too hard to hide behind a fake smile.

Ashland: I couldn’t agree more.

Kyle: You want to explain what you were up to with chelsea?

Summer: What do you mean? She offered to take connor and harrison for ice cream. I didn’t do anything.

Kyle: Not that. I’m talking about the fashion stuff. You had a lot of questions.

Summer: I was gathering information. I don’t know what I’m gonna do with it yet, but it’s good to have. I mean, if jabot did bail out marchetti, then we would lose some people. We would need new designers, production experts, vendors.

Kyle: I see.

Summer: And that is a big “if,” especially after today, running into diane and ashland. I said I loved being around family, but I wasn’t including them.

Kyle: I know.

Summer: How are you feeling about potentially moving back here?

Kyle: I have no idea.

Summer: I understand. I mean, if it was just us, i would say let’s do it, but my instinct is to protect harrison from those two.

Kyle: Yeah, I can’t even wrap my head around ashland yet. I’m still torn about whether i should give my mother a second chance, and after seeing her in the park with harrison today…

Summer: It triggered some memories for you?

Kyle: Yeah, she was good with him. Like she was with me. She was a warm, loving mother. Those memories, they’re real. I spent years locking them away because I was dealing with the grief of her death. And also because I heard the terrible stories about the things she did.

Summer: She’s confirmed that those stories are true.

Kyle: I know. But after seeing her in the park with my son today, those good memories are true, too.

Summer: I’m glad that she adhered to your boundaries today. She didn’t run up screaming, “I’m your grandma, harrison,” but that’s not to say that she’ll adhere to them tomorrow.

Kyle: I think it says she’ll follow my lead with harrison and take things slow.

Summer: But you can take things slow, too. Remember that. You don’t have to make a decision about diane right now. And you can always change your mind.

Chloe: How did it go? Tell me everything.

Esther: Well, I am quite taken with dwight. He knows so much about cleaning supplies.

Chloe: I’m sure. All the good ones do.

Esther: I’m really glad that the app put us together, but give me face-to-face conversation any time.

Chloe: I’m really happy for you, mom, but please take this slow.

Esther: Don’t worry, honey. I’m not gonna pin all my hopes on this one man. It was a lovely afternoon, exactly what I needed. Thank you so much for your help.

Chloe: I know I almost ruined it by spying on you, and i should trust you. And I’m sure if you think he’s a good guy, I’m sure he is. But please no wedding bells any time soon. I can’t handle that.

Esther: “Men aren’t necessary, but it’s nice to have them around in case you need something heavy lifted.”

Chloe: [ Chuckles ] That sounds more like katherine than you.

Esther: Yeah, well, yes, it is from her book. But it’s true. You know, I’m quite content with my life, honey. But it makes me really happy to do all I do for miles and bella. It’s a blessing.

Chloe: Well, it is so lovely to hear that, and it makes me happy knowing that you’re happy.

Esther: Thanks, sweetie. You know, we should go. I have cookies to bake.

Chloe: [ Chuckles ]

[ Cellphone chimes ] Oh.

[ Gasps ] Oh, well, will you look at that? Mr. Cleaning supplies wants another date.

Esther: Really?

Kyle: I think that unless i cut off my mother entirely right now, harrison will eventually find out who she is.

Summer: Probably.

Kyle: And once that happens, we can’t suddenly remove her from his life.

Summer: I understand. There are no easy answers. But if you let diane back into your life, do it for you. Don’t do it for harrison or for diane or anyone else. You are the one that she abandoned as a child, and I know that letting her back into your life may seem like a way to heal, but I’m not so sure. You need to do what’s healthiest for you.

Kyle: Thank you. I needed to hear that. But I can tell you don’t want me to reconnect with her.

Summer: It scares me.

Kyle: But you’re not forcing your opinions on me.

Summer: I will respect whatever you decide, but…

Kyle: But what?

Summer: If diane hurts you or harrison in any way, believe me, I will make her regret it.

Ashland: Have a seat.

Ashland: Ashland.

Diane: Oh. You’re harrison’s other father.

Ashland: Well, there was a time when I was his only father.

Diane: Is that the reason you look so down?

Ashland: There are too many reasons to get into, but, yes, having him pushed out of my life is one of them. How do you know about harrison?

Diane: I’m his grandmother.

Ashland: You’re kyle’s mother?

Diane: That’s right.

Diane: I — I know. But like you said, there are too many reasons to get into. Anyway, I had the pleasure of meeting harrison for the first time today. He’s adorable.

Ashland: Yes, he is. This is — this is interesting. Maybe we have more in common than just having a bad day.

Victor: I know you promised lauren you’d have more free time and that I would no longer give you any dangerous assignments, right?

Michael: That’s right.

Victor: That’s why you came up with this idea of inundating ashland locke with lawsuits. You’re forgetting the fact that he has had hundreds of lawsuits against him. He has enough financial resources to fight them off. We’ll never get rid of that son of a bitch.

Michael: You got a better idea?

Victor: We got to rethink this. I don’t think that harrison — that boy is the reason that ashland locke is still staying in town. You know that kyle and summer are about to take him back to milan.

Michael: Maybe.

Victor: What do you mean maybe?

Michael: I’ve heard that summer and kyle are delaying their return, that they’re sticking around for a while.

Victor: Huh.

Michael: So maybe harrison is the reason ashland’s still here.

Phyllis: Oh, it sure was.

Amanda: It was such a beautiful wedding.

Phyllis: It was beautiful.

Amanda: It really was, but i do wish I had more time to catch up with you at the reception.

Phyllis: I know. We missed our time together, right? But I like this one-on-one time. I like this, you know, without lookie-loos, you know, wondering what we’re talking about and want to be part of our group.

Ashley: Pardon me for interrupting.

[ Sighs ] What are you trying to pull?

Phyllis: Uh, excuse me?

Ashley: I know what you’ve done. And given your history, how could you let this happen?

Kyle: Morning. You rarely sleep this late.

Jack: Yeah, it was a late night.

Kyle: What time did you finally get in?

Jack: Um…

Summer: I should probably warn you guys that harrison has already licked the icing off of a cinnamon roll or two, so he’s gonna have some energy to spare. We should probably head to the park soon.

Kyle: Yeah, let’s do it. But should we talk to dad first?

Jack: About what?

Summer: We had some news that we wanted to run by you.

Kyle: We, um, may have found of way to stay in genoa city.

Victoria: Hello.

Ashland: Hi.

Victoria: You having a little breakfast?

Ashland: Yeah.

Victoria: Well, I’ll leave you to it, then.

Ashland: No, no, actually, uh, I-I think I’m done, so, uh, I was just leaving anyway.

Victoria: Ashland, wait.

Chloe: You have to stop.

Esther: Stop what? Being a doting grandma to bella? I don’t understand what I did wrong.

Chloe: That’s the problem. You’ve done everything right. You do too much for the kids. You’re always baking them cookies and doing bella’s homework.

Esther: Oh, well, I just gave her some hints. Some of that stuff is not easy.

Chloe: But being a grandma shouldn’t be a full-time job. I am so grateful that you are such a huge presence in the kids’ lives. They love you so much, and i love you, too. But, for example, you baked enough cookies for the entire school district. I mean, you must have been up all night.

Esther: Well, the kids like them, and I have fun doing that kind of thing.

Chloe: I’m just saying that you’ve worked so hard your whole life, and I think you deserve to kick back. After all these years, it’s esther time.

Victoria: You probably shouldn’t be carrying anything too heavy, putting too much weight on your ankle.

Ashland: Oh, yeah, well, there’s some, uh, residual pain, but I can handle it. Is your knee any better?

Victoria: It’s okay. However, I won’t be playing soccer anytime soon.

Ashland: [ Chuckles ] Well, I’m hoping to kick the ball around a little bit with harrison myself soon.

Victoria: I heard that he and kyle and summer are here.

Ashland: Yeah, yeah, I’ve already had some time with them. It’s wonderful. J-just so you know, I don’t see any reason to leave town while harrison is here.

Victoria: I understand.

Ashland: Okay, um, I guess, uh, I should be going, then.

Victoria: Okay. Bye.

Ashland: Bye.

[ Clears throat ]

Esther: Oh, thanks, honey. You know, I’ve never been good at sitting back, relaxing, and focusing on myself.

Chloe: Exactly. You already do so much for everyone, and there are only so many times that you can clean the knobs on the oven. At some point, you need to put down the feather duster. Remember mrs. C’s book, “I’m going to live till I die”?

Esther: Oh, of course.

Chloe: You need to live.

Esther: I do live.

Chloe: I just mean, isn’t there something that you want to do for yourself? Like, you could go back to community theater or start a wellness or food blog. I mean, you learned so much, whipping up all those smoothies for mrs. C. And making those heart-healthy meals for jill. I just think that you have so much knowledge to pass on.

Esther: Oh, I don’t know. I mean, I-I like to cook, but i just want to do it for people that I care about. And you know how I feel about the theater. I mean, I adore it. But I’ll never top my role in “streetcar.” It was the pinnacle of my acting career. And I — I just want to remember it that way and go out on the top. You know?

Chloe: Understood.

Esther: But… I might have, uh, one idea.

Chloe: Yeah? Great. Spill it.

Phyllis: I don’t know how you found out about this, but, honestly, it’s none of your business.

Ashland: It affects everybody in my family, phyllis.

Phyllis: Okay, I know you abbotts are tight-knit, but don’t you think that’s an exaggeration?

Ashley: Okay, don’t dismiss me, please. Why are you letting diane stay at your hotel?

Phyllis: Oh. Oh, diane. Oh, okay. Listen, I mean, I get why you’re upset, but aren’t you exaggerating? I mean, isn’t this an overreaction?

Amanda: Okay, I’m sorry to interrupt, but I feel a little out of the loop. Who is diane?

Phyllis: Diane is the worst person in the world.

Ashley: And yet you’re rolling out the red carpet for her. Is business really that bad?

Phyllis: First of all, business is great here. And second, I was providing a safe harbor.

Ashley: Mm, what are you doing?

Phyllis: Diane is here so i can keep an eye on her. Okay? She has a tendency to want to gallivant all over the city. You know, I wanted to keep her here before jack had a chance to tell kyle she was alive. I had to escort her to her room twice. But now everybody knows. Cat’s out of the bag. So I asked her to leave the hotel. Hopefully, she’ll be leaving the city, as well.

Ashley: So happy to hear it. Sooner she’s out of our lives, the better. We both know my brother has a bad habit of forgiving women that he shouldn’T.

Phyllis: Okay, when it comes to diane, we’re on the same side, ashley. Let’s just keep it at that. I’m steve, I lost 138 pounds in nine months on golo

Chloe: Really? Now, mom, you want your first project to be a man?

Esther: Don’t act so surprised. It’s never too late to find love.

Chloe: Agreed. But, you know, there are a lot of sketchy guys out there.

Esther: Ah, yeah, well, I’ve seen my fair share through mrs. C. And jill’s torturous love affairs. And my own dating past is…

Chloe: Checkered, at best.

Esther: Yeah, well, jill would always say that my bad taste in men is legendary.

Katherine: Brock was asking about tiny earlier.

[ Soft, dramatic music plays ]

Esther: Don’t mention that name to me.

Katherine: Uh, then you’ve had no further conversation with him?

Esther: Of course not. He doesn’t care about me or the baby.

Katherine: Yes, I realize it looks that way.

Esther: It is that way!

Katherine: Well, brock has gone to see him, though, dear, for the last time.

Esther: It won’t do any good.

Katherine: Esther, please, i mean, we can hope for maybe positive results.

Esther: Wishing — wishing won’t make it happen. I’ve given up on that.

Katherine: But brock has a wonderful way with people. Don’t you understand? Possibly he can get through to this man.

Esther: [ Sighing ] Oh. I just hope — I hope the baby’s a girl. I don’t want anything to remind me of tiny!

Katherine: Whether it is a boy or a girl, he is still the child’s father. Now, that’s a fact, esther — an undeniable fact.

Esther: You know that woman on television that leanna loves? Oh, boy, she is so right. Men — men are just no good!

[ Thunder crashes ] I hate them, too!

Jill: Esther, where have you been? Why haven’t you returned my phone calls?

Esther: Oh, roger made it worthwhile to leave everything on vibrate.

Jill: [ Sighs ] You are gonna regret every moment you’ve spent with that con man.

Esther: Nothing you say will make me doubt my husband.

Jill: Your husb– you did it? You married him?

Esther: Yes, and it was so romantic.

Jill: God. Well, I don’t doubt it. He’s had a lot of practice.

Esther: Oh, god. What does that mean?

Jill: It means that roger says “I do” for a living, esther. He’s a bigamist.

Katherine: Come on, dear. There’s no need to cry over broken dishes. So sit down, sit down.

Esther: You don’t understand, mrs. C. This is the only job that i have.

Katherine: Well, you’re right. I really don’t understand. Not for a minute.

Esther: This is the only place in town that would hire me.

Katherine: Well, why were you even looking, esther? You have money. You know that.

Esther: Gone.

Katherine: What?

Esther: You see, I met this man.

Katherine: Oh, my god, esther.

Esther: Oh, he was unbelievable. He was so thoughtful, he was so caring.

Katherine: Mm-hmm.

Esther: We spent lots of time together. So, when he suggested that we go to vegas, I thought he meant get married.

Katherine: And did he?

Esther: I don’t know. It wasn’t the only reason. That’s for sure. Because, when we got there, he started playing the slot machines, and then he started gambling at the tables, losing money left and right. He said that his luck would change, but… then it was gone. Poof, just like that.

Katherine: He lost all of your money?

Esther: And then he just disappeared. Oh, well, there are bad men out there, but there are some good ones, too.

Chloe: I appreciate your optimism, but dating is very different these days. I mean, do you even know how people go about it now?

Esther: Dating apps? Yeah, I — yeah, I’ve been on them for a while.

Chloe: [ Chuckles ] You have?

Esther: Yeah, I told you. Don’t you remember?

Chloe: Uh, no, you haven’t mentioned dating in a while.

Esther: Well, that’s because I haven’t found anyone special. But I came across this new app that’s geared toward seniors. I haven’t had many responses, but I think my, uh, profile needs work.

Chloe: I can help you rewrite it. I mean, it’s kind of right up my alley. Show me what you got.

Esther: Okay. Well, I, um — I started out with my work history, uh, “keeping the grand katherine chancellor’s home in order.” Um, isn’t that what the kids called a humblebrag.

Chloe: And I think it’s what they called a mistake. We need to go bigger. Much bigger.

Ashley: It’s kind of strange, isn’t it? You and I being allies?

Phyllis: Well, you know what they say. “My enemy’s enemy is my friend.”

Ashley: Right. So, you’re saying that diane being here is actually uniting us in some weird way?

Phyllis: I mean, yeah?

Ashley: Hmm.

Phyllis: I was having a conversation with my actual friend. Sorry, amanda.

Amanda: Oh, no, it’s okay.

Phyllis: You know, I don’t know if I have room for another bff, honestly. But, um, I will tell you that diane being back in town has made me reexamine some of my feelings.

Ashley: Hmm, yeah, I admit, my brain has gone to some pretty dark places that I haven’t been in a while.

Phyllis: Yeah, me too. But we have a common goal, to protect jack, right?

Ashley: And kyle.

Phyllis: And kyle, of course. My daughter. I don’t want them all getting sucked in to diane’s web.

Ashley: Yeah, kyle is very vulnerable. He needs us to protect him.

Phyllis: Definitely, and I’ll do that. So you don’t mind if I get, you know, sort of close to members of your family, do you?

Ashley: Honestly… I think I could handle just about anything if it gets diane out of our lives. Really. As a matter of fact, if she gives you any problems getting out of here, just call me. I will help you roust her.

Phyllis: Great.

Ashley: Mm-hmm.

Phyllis: We have a deal.

Ashley: Okay. I’m sorry again for interrupting.

Amanda: No, it’s fine.

Ashley: Bye.

Phyllis: Bye.

Amanda: Bye. Okay, now you have me dying of curiosity. You need to tell me about diane.

Kyle: Ashland doesn’t have cancer?! He — he sat harrison down! He told him he was sick!

Jack: I-I know.

Summer: It’s so evil. It’s disgusting. I mean, how long have you known? I can’t believe no one in my family told me.

Jack: I’m sure they planned to tell you. Their original purpose was to keep ashland from creating any more havoc.

Summer: I can’t even imagine how victoria must feel. I mean, to be emotionally manipulated like that? She loved him so much.

Jack: That’s got to be quite a blow. The marriage has been annulled. Ashland is no longer involved with newman-locke, and in fact, the company is now going by its old name.

Summer: Okay, I’m happy to hear that, at least, but still, the way that he used victoria. I mean, and all of us.

Kyle: Yeah, he preyed on our sympathies. And he pretended to be noble about harrison, when, really, he just wanted him out of town so he could exploit his fake illness to make a move on newman. That — that’s beyond twisted! And when I think about us reassuring harrison about his terminally ill father, and he was never even sick, I mean, who does that to their own son!

[ Sighs ] My mother. She did almost the same thing to me.

[ Sighs ] When you really need to sleep.

Phyllis: Um, I was accused of murdering diane once. This time, I may just follow through.

Amanda: Phyllis, I don’t think that we should joke about something like that.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. We shouldn’t joke.

Amanda: Phyllis?

Phyllis: I’m just gonna say, last time, the whodunit list was so long because every single person in town wanted that bitch gone. Now I’m really nervous because she’s completely obsessed with kyle, and now she set her sights on jack. I mean, it’s like she believes that she deserves jack and kyle back in her life because she’s reformed, which is a lie. She wants them tied up in a tiny little bow as a gift to her.

Amanda: I think that we both know that jack is smart enough to see through whatever diane is doing. So is there some other reason why you’re so worked up?

Phyllis: Let me tell you something. My relationship with jack has progressed.

Amanda: So, you’re no longer his wedding plus-one?

Phyllis: No, I mean, it’s progressed. Not a little, a lot, last night, and it was amazing.

Amanda: Oh, wow, that’s so great. I mean, phyllis, I really thought that that ship had sailed.

Phyllis: No, that ship is right where it needs to be.

Jack: There you are. I was wondering where you were.

Allie: Yeah, I just went out for a run. There’s been a lot of bustle with a little kid around.

Jack: I hope all the chaos hasn’t driven you crazy.

Allie: Oh, no, no, no, no. I didn’t mean it like that. I actually went out for a celebration run.

Jack: Oh? What are we celebrating?

Allie: Well, I just got my final grades back, and I did way better than I thought.

Jack: Oh, that is fantastic. You know, you’re giving me lots of fodder to do more family bragging that I’m apparently famous for.

Allie: [ Laughs ] Listen, uh, jack, I have been thinking. I don’t have school to go back to now, and [Inhales deeply], Well, my plans have kind of changed since my father passed away. I was wondering, would it be okay if I stayed for a couple more days?

Jack: It would be more than okay. You can stay as long as you like. We would love to have you here.

Allie: Thank you.

[ Chuckles ]

Jack: How can I make you feel more comfortable? I was thinking we could have a little social something — a cocktail party, a dinner party, invite some people more your age.

Allie: I appreciate that. I really do appreciate that, but I’m okay. I am used to burying myself all day in a lab, so…

Ashley: Now, that sounds like me.

[ Laughter ]

Kyle: Why don’t you go play with the ducks, and we’ll be right there?

[ Sighs ] So glad everything going on doesn’t seem to be affecting him.

Summer: He seems as happy as can be.

Kyle: I hope it stays that way.

Summer: It will, because we will make sure that it does. You and I are going to protect him.

Kyle: One thing he needs protecting from is the situation with my mother. Have you thought any more about it?

Summer: I just can’t forget the look in her eyes when she faced off with my mom at the wedding — a wedding she crashed, by the way.

Kyle: Hmm. Your mom has made no bones about wanting my mother to disappear from all of our lives.

Summer: I’m worried that she wants more from you than just your forgiveness. I think you need to be careful. I know how much you miss your mom, and I think that she knows it, too. She shouldn’t take advantage of that.

Kyle: Mm-hmm, I hear you, and I’m on guard emotionally. I’m not about to let my defenses down when it comes to her. But I still need time.

Summer: Hmm. We have a lot to consider, big decisions to make. And we’ll just —

Amanda: You know, after everything you just told me, i think, instead of throwing diane off of a bridge, maybe you should think about thanking her.

Phyllis: No, it didn’T. Getting together with jack has absolutely nothing to do with diane. It’s based on our bond and our feelings for each other, born from, you know, mutual respect and — and admiration. I mean, it’s nice to have somebody who gets you, you know, and somebody who will tell you that you’re out of line.

Amanda: Okay, well, I’m on board. You know that I am. So if this is what you want — and it sounds like it is — then hold on to it. Don’t let anyone or anything take it away from you.

Ashley: So, tell me, what does it entail to get a degree in chemical engineering these days?

Allie: Well, you have nine engineering courses, four math courses, two physics, a general chem, general bio, and then, oh, orgo — organic chemistry.

Ashley: Oh, my god.

Jack: Wow.

Allie: That’s a little bit.

Ashley: Okay, that’s really impressive. You should be so proud of yourself.

Allie: Thank you.

Jack: And she just got her grades back, and they were terrific.

Ashley: Wow. Sounds like you’ve got a great foundation.

Jack: So, before you came in, I was talking to her about the fact that her studies are over now, and I’m a little worried she might get bored.

Ashley: Wait a second. Are you saying that me talking about chemistry is actually boring to you today.

Allie: It is not, to me.

[ Laughter ]

Jack: I would love to do something for you socially, though, really.

Allie: Jack, thank you. I appreciate that, but i honestly just don’t need any more attention centered around me. Last night, I met plenty of wonderful people at the wedding.

Ashley: Who did you meet?

Allie: Mariah and tessa, of course.

Ashley: Don’t they just seem like they’re made for each other?

Allie: They do. And then I met summer. She was the one who talked me into going to the wedding. She’s fantastic. And then I met some of her family — faith, nick, and then — oh, and then I met noah at both the wedding and the coffeehouse.

Ashley: Alright, now, noah — I heard that he’s working with nick, right?

Jack: Yeah, he is.

Allie: He told me that he’s an artist.

Jack: Uh, yeah, he’s a bit of a rolling stone. I don’t know how long he’s gonna be in genoa city this time, even if he says he’s here for good. Uh, oh, gee, I got to get out of here, ladies. There’s someplace I need to be. Everybody good here?

Ashley: I think we’re okay, jack.

Jack: Good.

Ashley: [ Chuckles ]

Ashland: I am so glad that i ran into all of you.

[ Chuckles ] Uh, d-do you think that I could, uh, take over for a bit, maybe have a little father-son time with harrison?

Summer: That is not going to happen.

Kyle: Uh, hey, buddy, I think those kids over there might want to play. Why don’t you go over there, and we’ll watch you? Yeah? We know what you did, and it changes everything. We don’t want you anywhere near harrison.

Chloe: First of all, I’m ixnaying the whole job description.

Esther: Yeah, but I was a housekeeper for many years. It’s a big part of who I am.

Chloe: You were so much more than a maid to kay and jill. If anything, you should call yourself A… high-level peacekeeper, because that’s what you really were in the chancellor house.

Esther: Hmm.

[ Sighs ]

[ Dramatic music plays ] Well, good morning. Are we all in our places with sunshiny faces?

Jill and katherine: Shut up, esther.

Esther: Oh, yeah, well, it wasn’t the most serene workplace environment, but I’m not gonna exaggerate for effect.

Chloe: If anything, we’re underplaying it.

Esther: You know, I know that you’ve had issues in the past about my job. I mean, I’ve had insecurities about it myself. I-I once pretended to be wealthy to impress a man, but I’m never doing that again. I-I worked for mrs. C. For a very long time, and I’m proud of it. I-I was proud to be needed.

Chloe: All I’m saying is that it doesn’t hurt to fluff things up a bit. Everyone’s doing it.

Esther: So, you’re still disappointed, what I did for a living.

Chloe: [ Inhales deeply ]

Esther: I like being a maid. I live in a beautiful home. Jill’s a pain, but I could never leave mrs. Chancellor.

Chloe: Why not?

Esther: She needs me. And she’s been very good to both of us, letting you live there when you were a baby.

Chloe: And shipping me off to a boarding school.

Esther: How could you be so ungrateful. That school was outrageously expensive. If it wasn’t for mrs. C., You wouldn’t have gotten such an incredible education. Instead of being a stylist, you might have wound up cleaning toilets, too.

Chloe: But don’t you want more, mom?

Esther: I’m happy with my life. I like what I do. Might not be glamorous, but —

Chloe: It’s pathetic. And if you want to live the rest of your life like a loser, then go ahead. I’m not doing it. I refuse to. I have zero issues with your career choice, and I’m embarrassed about how I spoke to you that way. I’d like to think that we’ve come a long way since then.

Esther: We have. And whatever differences we’ve had in the past, it doesn’t change how much I love you and what the woman katherine tina valentine has become.

Chloe: Aww.

Esther: I love you, honey.

Chloe: I love you so much, mom. Want more from your vitamin brand?

Ashley: So, what are your plans? What are you gonna do with your degree?

Allie: I am not totally sure.

Ashley: Listen, I completely understand. I know from experience that your 20s can be a little tricky.

Allie: Yeah, yeah. Um, I got to make some decisions, too, though. Usually, I like to have plans and then stick to them.

Ashley: That’s exactly like me, too.

Allie: Really?

Ashley: Yes, I like everything to be set in stone and then just laid out.

Allie: Yes, exactly.

Ashley: But what’s that saying, “man makes plans, and god laughs”? Life just gets in the way sotitimememememe

Allie: I am learning that thehehehehe hard way.

Ashley: Aww. You must be dealing with so, so much. All these new relatives that you’re meeting, and… I mean, I understand that you’re still dealing, you know, with the death of your dad. And I know, fomememymemememememememe waalwawawawawawawaggtgggggggg cheerleader and always helped methrough things.

Allie: Yeah. Me too. Sorry. Um, I’m actually gonna go take a shower.

Ashley: Oh, okay.

Allie: Excuse me.

Ashley: Sure.

Jack: Hey, red.

Phyllis: Hey! How are you this morning?

Jack: Oh, it’s a pretty glorious morning.

Phyllis: It is.

Jack: Sun is shining, the birds are chirping.

Phyllis: I have a really great idea. Um, would you like me… to make a cup of coffee, and we can sit here and watch diane check out and know that she’s never gonna darken our doorstep ever again?

Ashland: I made a huge mistake. Uh, in fact, I made several mistakes, and I deeply regret my actions. But nothing I’ve done changes my relationship with my son. So if I —

Summer: To be clear, he is not your son. Tara lied about that, just like you have lied about so many things.

Ashland: I’m trying to make amends. But for today, I just want to spend a little bit of time with harrison.

Kyle: Listen —

Ashland: Please, I’m —

Kyle: We already said no. So don’t make this a scene. You should go. Now.

Ashland: Hey, uh, kiddo! Your old man, he’s gotta… get to a meeting, so we’ll have to spend time together later. Another time. I’ll see you soon, though. I love you.

Kyle: That could’ve gone a lot worse.

Summer: I’m just glad that it didn’t get ugly in front of harrison. Aunt victoria.

Victoria: Hi.

Summer: Oh, my gosh.

Victoria: Good to see you.

Summer: We just heard about what ashland did. I am so sorry that you even had to lay eyes on him just now.

Victoria: I can handle seeing him.

Summer: I know nobody is stronger than you. I just — I wish somebody would’ve told me.

Kyle: Victor must be furious.

Summer: And the rest of my family? I mean, I would be scared of grandma if I were ashland. Why is he even still in town? Can’t he do one decent thing and just leave us all alone for good? Nicorette knows, quitting smoking is freaking hard.

Chloe: So here is your new profile. You see, I called you a “house manager.”

Esther: Oh. I’m good with that.

Chloe: Yeah. And these are your photos. What do you think?

Esther: I think they’re good. I mean, they look like me, right?

Chloe: Yeah.

Esther: The last thing i would want is for someone to be disappointed when they see me in person.

Chloe: Yeah, no, I think they look like you. And by that, I mean beautiful.

Esther: Thank you. Okay. Let’s post it.

Esther: It’s out there now!

Esther: And as far as the app goes, I don’t have any unrealistic expectations. I’m not expecting a prince or even someone that would be interested. I-I’m just gonna go with the flow.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Esther: Well, is that —

Esther: Oh, my. Oh, no. Oh, my gosh.

Jack: I am truly sorry that diane has been such a disruption in all of our lives.

Phyllis: Well, I mean, listen, if it’s any consolation, diane led me to having as close as a bonding experience as I’m ever gonna have with your sister ashley.

Jack: What?

Phyllis: Yeah, she came tearing in here, accusing me of going soft on diane. I assured her I’m still a hater.

Jack: Well, I guess it’s good to know the two of you can agree on something.

Phyllis: Yeah. Listen, jack, we just need to get diane the hell out of our lives. We really do. I mean, part of me is relieved that kyle and summer and harrison are going back to italy. I mean, I want them as far away from that woman as possible.

Summer: That little boy is just the cutest.

Kyle: Well, it doesn’t look like he picked up on any of the earlier tension with ashland.Summer: But we are going to have to deal with it eventually. As much as we could hope that ashland will do the right thing and leave town, we can’t count on it. And didn’t sound like he was ready to go anywhere.

Kyle: Mm. If he won’t walk away from harrison, we’ll have to keep our guard up with both him and my mother. The prospect of staying in genoa city just got much more complicated with those two in the equation.

Victoria: I don’t ever want to leave the palazzo, let alone tuscany.

Ashland: Well, that doesn’t sound at all like the beautiful, talented workaholic I just married.

[ Both chuckle ]

Victoria: Well, it is our wedding night.

Ashland: Mm, yes, it is. But as perfect as this night is, if we stayed here, we would be missing out on the extraordinary life we’re gonna have back home. Working side by side. Power couple by day, passionate at night, that kind of thing.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ]

Ashland: I’m gonna spend every day from now on showing you how much I love you. And you know, I was thinking. Part of me wishes we’d met years ago. But maybe we had to wait until this moment so we would both understand how lucky we are. You have no idea how deeply i regret the lies… I felt I had to tell. But I’m gonna spend the rest of my life making it up to you. That’s a promise.

Victoria: Mom, it’s me. I’ve changed my mind. I think we should take that trip together after all.

Tessa: Oh, it was such a lovely surprise. It was so sweet of her.

Mariah: Yeah, she’s a romantic.

Mariah: I know. Right?

Tessa: Yes.

[ Both chuckle ] I mean, it feels unreal, but…

Mariah: Strangely, casual. Like, totally normal.

Tessa: Very natural, yeah.

Mariah: I mean, we were already committed to each other forever, but then we just said it aloud in front of all the people that we know.

[ Both chuckle ]

Tessa: With kyle officiating. The person who saw our connection before anyone else. It was perfect. The wedding, the music.

Mariah: Yeah.

Tessa: The party.

[ Both laugh ]

Mariah: The food was fantastic. And noah’s vision — oh, my god.

Tessa: Totally out of control. Oh. And, uh, it was so nice having crystal there.

Mariah: Having our families together was — it was amazing. And knowing that rey was the one who made that possible, it just meant so much to my mom.

Phyllis: I mean, there’s a lot going on with the wedding and all those emotions, you know, flying around. That’s probably why it happened.

Michael: Thank you.

[ Sighs ] Thank… well, hello, there.

Taylor: Michael, hi. Good to see you again.

Michael: Good to see you, too.

Taylor: [ Chuckles ]

Michael: I-I still can’t get over the fact that you’re really here.

Taylor: [ Chuckles ] I can’t tell you what it means to have someone say that and kind of sound glad about it.

[ Chuckles ]

Michael: I take that to mean that you’re on your own this evening.

Taylor: Oh, story of my life. I assume lauren’s on her way.

Michael: Oh, my lovely wife had to go out of town on a last-minute business trip, leaving me all by my lonesome.

Taylor: Oh.

Michael: Um… why don’t you join me?

Taylor: Really?

Michael: Yeah, have a seat. Come. Yeah.

Taylor: Oh. Well, thanks. I would love to.

Michael: [ Chuckles ]

Taylor: This is so kind of you. I’m really grateful for the offer, and for the chance to catch up with you.

Michael: [ Sighs ] Well, uh, the — the seafood is to die for. Very fresh. And you really can’t go wrong with any of the caribbean dishes.

Taylor: [ Chuckles ] Oh, how’s the grilled snapper?

Michael: Unbelievable.

[ Chuckles ]

Taylor: Done.

Michael: So… how are things going?

Taylor: Uh… well, there’s been some positive momentum with kyle. He’s extended his visit.

Michael: Really? That’s wonderful.

Taylor: Yes and no. While I’m thrilled that my son is close by, he has made it clear that he did not stay for me. He officiated mariah’s wedding.

Michael: Hmm. Has young master kyle become a man of the cloth?

Taylor: [ Laughs ] Of the internet variety.

Michael: Yeah.

Taylor: But he was a natural. He was so poised and warm, generous, and funny.

Michael: It sounds like you were there as a guest.

Taylor: [ Sighs ]

Michael: You crashed tessa and mariah’s wedding.

Taylor: “Crashed” makes it sound so —

Michael: That you weren’t invited?

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

Summer: Well, harrison’s totally zonked. He looks so adorable. I took a picture of him. Look.

Kyle: [ Chuckling ] Oh.

Summer: [ Chuckles ] I missed him so much. How is that even possible, to become so crazy about a little boy in such a short amount of time?

Kyle: Harrison is just that amazing.

Summer: You think you’re joking, but it’s true. Sweetest kid ever.

Kyle: Well, his stepmom is pretty sweet, too.

Summer: Mmm. He makes it easy. He really does.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] I tried so hard to be good, just like he does, you know, with my mom, as a kid. It was me and her against the world, and yet she still decided… never mind. I shouldn’t go there.

Summer: [ Sighs ] I resent the way that diane showed up tonight, uninvited, and the way that she basically forced you to bring me over to her.

Kyle: Oh, uh, [Sighs] She — she didn’t force me.

Summer: It was manipulative. She knew that you couldn’t say no. Then, the way that she acted like a martyr when she was asked to leave and acted as if you were her protector. That’s why I say I couldn’t trust her. I can see that you’re still struggling with this. You’re caught between the woman who deserted you as a child and the woman who’s now shown up again, overflowing with apologies, wanting a place back in your life.

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: Yeah. You know me so well. You know, in fact, I’m gonna put that to the test. Um, what am I thinking right now?

Jack: Okay, okay, let me give this a try.

Phyllis: Yeah? Do your best.

Jack: Yeah.

Phyllis: I bet you cannot guess, I bet.

Jack: You spent all your time at the wedding mingling and dancing and not eating, and you are famished.

Phyllis: How did you know that?

Jack: Well, you have to ask?

Phyllis: You do know me well.

Phyllis: Okay.

Jack: Let me guess what you would order from room service.

Phyllis: Um, you know what? I sort of have a craving for society’s late-night menu. What do you think?

Jack: Are you kicking me out?

Phyllis: No, no, I just want to continue the celebration. It’s been such a festive, festive day.

[ Chuckles ]

Kyle: Yeah, I don’t know if i can forgive my mother. Or if I even should.

Summer: It’s totally understandable why you would feel that way. I can see how torn-up you are about this, how badly you want to believe that diana is sincere, but [Sighs] I just haven’t seen any proof of that, and I don’t want you to get hurt.

Kyle: Part of me wants to give this more time, wait and see what she really does, but there’s also a part of me that doesn’t want to live in this limbo, feeling like I’m judging her every move. She’s my mother. I hate having to feel like I’m so guarded around her.

Summer: It’s your choice how this plays out. And whatever you decide, you can change your mind. If you need more time, then diane needs to accept that. And then there’s harrison to consider. It’s up to you, of course, but if I get a vote, I’d like to leave harrison out of this for as long as possible — at least, until you have a better handle of the situation and we know if diana is trustworthy or not.

Kyle: Yeah, we’re on the same page with that.

Summer: [ Sighs ] Good.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] But tonight I want to set it aside and focus on you, my strong, gorgeous, pragmatic wife, who takes my breath away every time I look at her. I’m here now, and I’ve missed you like crazy. With golo, I’ve lost 13 inches in my waist.

Noah: Uh, that’s ’cause it kinda is. My mom owns it, so I have an in.

Allie: Oh. Hmm.

Noah: Looks like you and i had the same idea. Weren’t quite ready to call it quits after the wedding, huh?

Allie: Oh, no, actually i am — I did go back to jack’s place. It was just, I had trouble falling asleep, and then I came back out, and here I am.

Noah: Oh, okay, well, whatever you came here to get, i can make for you. And then I guess we can just ignore each other.

Allie: Okay. That sounds good. Regular coffee is great. Thanks.

Taylor: Alright, yes, I snuck into the wedding to watch kyle officiate. But I hid in the back. I was discreet.

Michael: A wedding to which you weren’t invited, where your presence could have resulted in a — an unwelcome scene.

Taylor: Michael, I’m a much better person now. But I’m still human. I’m still me… which will always make me suspect in certain people’s eyes.

Michael: Oh, please, remember who you’re talking to. I am the guy who advised you while you and jack were battling for custody of young kyle. I’m also the person who eventually had to step in and take over the case.

Taylor: You’re the reason I got custody, in large part because of how you grilled phyllis.

Michael: I’m also the…

[ Whispering ] I’m also the person who organized your memorial service… because I didn’t want kyle to think that everybody hated his mom. I wanted him to know that there were others who shared in his sadness.

[ Sighs ]

Taylor: I — I didn’t know that. Wow.

[ Sighs ] Thank you, michael. Years late, but… no less appreciated.

Michael: You’re welcome.

Taylor: It reminds me all over again what I put poor kyle through.

Michael: Oh, you know what? I didn’t say those things to make you feel any more guilty than you already do. I believe you’ve made a sincere attempt to change, that you — that you want to make amends and heal your relationship with your son. All admirable goals that I think you can achieve.

[ Sighs ] As someone who has also felt the need to make amends. You may recall that I was no saint, either.

Taylor: [ Chuckles ] Yes, but look at you now. I admire you so much. I mean, how I wish I could have what you have. You have a place that you can truly call home, with people who love and — and respect you.

Michael: I’ve been fortunate, there’s no question. But you’re not completely alone. You have to know that there are people who care about what happens to you.

Taylor: Case in point.

Michael: As you said, you’re still you. And diane jenkins is a formidable woman. And right now, that means keeping your head held high and not taking any more impulsive moves… like showing up at events that you weren’t invited to, no matter how great the momentary satisfaction.

Taylor: Michael, don’t scold me.

Michael: No, no, I am being the friend you need now, trying to get through to you. If you ever want to have a real relationship with kyle, you’re going to have to be prepared to wait and suffer some of the wrath of genoa city.

Taylor: [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: Wow, look at these two. And every time I see them together, they’re like best buds.

Jack: Ignore them.

Phyllis: Okay, I’ll — I will do that for you. One prilosec otc in the morning

Tessa: Uh, well, it was just a slip of the tongue. I got a little ahead of myself, there. We were just talking about the future, and imagining kids, plural. But you know… maybe just one.

Mariah: No, it’s fine. I — I would love more than one.

Tessa: Yeah? I think it would be really special. And who knows? Maybe one of us will want to carry a child after adopting one. But we still have decided that this is the best thing for where we are in our lives.

Mariah: It is. Feels really right.

Tessa: [ Chuckles ]

[ Laughs ]

Phyllis: Well, this has been an amazing day. Amazing. The wedding was fun, wasn’t it?

Jack: Yeah, it was. I don’t know who was more shocked by my catching the bouquet — everyone else at the reception or me.

Phyllis: [ Chuckles ] It must have been hilarious. I wish I was there.

Taylor: You know why she’s doing that, don’t you?

Michael: Why who is doing what?

Taylor: Oh, phyllis, fawning all over jack. It’s totally for my benefit.

Michael: [ Sighs ] I’ll take your word for it.

Phyllis: [ Laughing ]

Taylor: Dinner was delightful, but I think it’s time for me to get back to my suite.

Michael: Oh, come on, you haven’t even touched dessert. Don’t let phyllis chase you away.

Taylor: Oh, [Scoffs] I deal with phyllis and her bad attitude on a daily basis. She never misses a chance to make me feel unwelcome in her establishment. Although she won’t have the pleasure much longer.

Michael: I assume you’re gonna find someplace else to stay, and I certainly don’t fault you for that.

Taylor: Yes, at first, she wanted me in her hotel so she could keep her eye on me and police my every move. But now that people know I’m back, she’s made it clear she wants me gone.

Michael: Oh. I’m sorry you feel mistreated.

Taylor: [ Sighs ] No, it’s okay. I’m sure wherever I land will be better. Anyway, I-I really do need to get going. What do I owe you for dinner?

Michael: Nothing. It’s on me.

Taylor: Michael. No.

Michael: Hey, I enjoyed your company, and even if I hadn’t, you saved me from eating alone, which is my least favorite activity.

Taylor: I just wanted to wish you both a good evening.

Jack: Good evening.

Phyllis: I-I see you’re making an early night of it so you can go pack so you can leave first thing in the morning.

Taylor: You’ve been very clear on that subject, phyllis. I just needed to finalize my plans.

Phyllis: I don’t want to keep you. Go ahead, go ahead.

Taylor: Good night.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ]

Jack: You think she’ll actually go back to L.A.?

Phyllis: Yeah. I mean, we’ve all made it abundantly clear that she is not welcome here. She’s not wanted here. And I’m gonna do whatever I can to drive that point home.

[ Sighs ] But your eyes are so blue. You know, sometimes when you look at me, it takes my breath away.

Jack: Oh, sorry about that.

Phyllis: [ Chuckles ] No.

Jack: I could try to get a handle on it.

Phyllis: Don’t be sorry. I like it.

Kyle: I’m so glad you’re here with me.

Summer: Me too.

Kyle: I love our life in milan. But it’s — it’s taken some getting used to. Sometimes I get homesick.

Summer: I know you do. And there is something special about being back here in genoa city. I miss this town more than i realized.

Kyle: Well, we should come home more often. Whenever you can get away from marchetti. And I know you’ve worked hard to make a name for yourself, but there’s something to be said about life balance, even after you’ve landed your dream job.

Summer: I actually have to talk to you about that. When you really need to sleep.

Phyllis: Not nearly enough. That’s what I say.

Michael: If you were to find yourself in a similar situation, I would —

Phyllis: Don’t compare me to diane.

Michael: Your propensity to do things that have consequences that you didn’t plan on, thus alienating great swaths of people, in which case — in which case, as your friend, I would stand by you in the same way, so suck it up. Look, you seemed perfectly happy with jack a moment ago. Why don’t you go enjoy yourself, alright?

Phyllis: [ Scoffs ]

Phyllis: Thank you.

Jack: Feel better now?

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] Damn you and those blue eyes.

Noah: [ Sighs ] So, what brought you here, huh? Why aren’t you at jack’s?

Allie: So many people. Oh, that didn’t come out right.

Noah: It, uh, sounded honest.

Allie: Yeah, but it could be misconstrued as rude. The abbotts have been lovely and welcoming, but for many years, it was just my father and me.

Noah: It’s a big change for you.

Allie: Yeah, there is a lot of energy, and it all directed at me. It’s well-meaning energy. It’s just… we’re all kind of strangers, still. So…it’s awkward.

Noah: Hey, I get it. I do. I have a big family. The newmans — they’re, uh… how do I put this? Um, they’re an assertive bunch. They’re all smart, all have an idea. I mean, I left town to avoid family drama more than once. Last time, I left the whole continent.

Allie: [ Chuckling ] Wow.

Noah: Yeah, and it took me a long time to realize this. There’s far more good in being a part of it than there is bad. It’s something to think about.

Mariah: You know, even if you didn’t know whether I wanted another kid or not, you wouldn’t have to keep that from me. We share everything. Okay?

Tessa: Yeah. You’re right. It’s the best of who we are and who we’ll continue to be. My beautiful wife.

Allie: I’m glad you figured out how to get along with your family well enough to not flee the country.

Noah: It’s a talent.

[ Chuckles ] Alright, well, I’ll get back to ignoring you now, but one last little pearl of wisdom. You really can take it at your own pace here. And jack, he’s one of the best guys I know, so you have nothing to worry about there. You know, he actually was my stepfather at one point.

Allie: So, one of his many marriages was to your mom?

Noah: Yep. Yeah, that’s right. And they’re still friends. And you already met my sister summer. I’m sure you got an idea about how open and cool she is.

Allie: Yeah. Yeah, she was the one who talked me into going to the wedding. She seems great.

Noah: And her husband, kyle, he’s the same. Now, they’re all kind and generous people who will take you on your own terms, so if you’re ever feeling like you need a little space, just ask for it, and they’ll still be there when you’re ready.

Kyle: So, what’s going on?

Summer: Well, I discovered certain things about marchetti’s finances that angelina’s been keeping from me. And when I went to her with questions, she claimed that it was nothing for me to worry about. She didn’t want to distract me from the work that I was doing.

Kyle: So she brushed you off?

Summer: More or less. I mean, she wasn’t rude about it or anything. In fact, she couldn’t have been nicer. But I could tell that something was off, so I did a deep dive into the company’s books.

Kyle: Hmm. How bad is it?

Summer: Worse than I could have ever imagined.

Kyle: Oh, boy. [ Sighs ]

Summer: Yeah. I realize now why angelina was so interested in my marketing experience. I mean, my vision for the brand did help increase revenue, which has improved the company’s financial footing. But they are deep in the hole, and it worries me.

Kyle: Did you bring your concerns to her?

Summer: [ Sighs ] Yeah. But she’s in denial. And she’s too afraid to do what it takes to shore things up.

Kyle: So… are you thinking about walking away?

Summer: No. I love my work there, and i really believe in angelina’s design talent.

[ Sighs ] I’ve been trying to think of a solution, but it’s gonna take something really big to keep them afloat.

Kyle: Well, you have an idea?

[ Chuckles ] Let’s hear it.

Summer: [ Chuckles ]

Phyllis: Uh, I’m gonna say good night here.

Jack: Yeah, you’re probably right. Kids are at my place. I would be conspicuous in my absence. Don’t want to start any questions that are, frankly, none of their business.

Phyllis: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: The way things have evolved between us, they will continue to evolve, but only as we want them to.

We will decide.

Phyllis: I couldn’t have said it better myself. I hope to see you tomorrow.

Phyllis: [ Chuckles ]

Summer: What if… jabot bought marchetti?

Kyle: Wow. That is… definitely big and out of the box.

Summer: Jabot has been in and out of the fashion business. It wouldn’t take much to ramp back up. And then, with the partnership with fenmore’S…

Kyle: It makes it a natural fit.

[ Both sigh ] It’s interesting. I just got to think about how it could work.

Summer: I was thinking that we could move operations over here. We give angelina the option of relocating or working remotely in italy. It means that we could move back home permanently, which, talking to you now, clearly appeals to both of us. Then again, there might be other aspects that don’t work for you on a personal level. I mean, with diane coming back into your life again after all of these years, would you even want to come back under those circumstances?

Jack: Well, you seem to be taking full advantage of the hotel amenities before you move on.

Taylor: Oh, well, now that phyllis no longer sees a need to play watchdog, she’s eager for me to go.

Jack: Well, that’s understandable.

Taylor: Of course, given all of our history. Although she did seem to be enjoying her daily opportunity to take pot shots at me, remind me how universally hated I am in this town. Well, almost universally.

Jack: So, you decided to go to a wedding that you were neither invited to nor welcome at.

Taylor: To see my son, knowing that I had to be content to hide in shadows and watch from a distance.

[ Sighs ] Michael counseled me that if i want a relationship with kyle, I need to be patient, which I am more than willing to do, even if it means constantly turning the other cheek with phyllis, because then I’ll have more moments like I did at the wedding, where kyle agreed to reintroduce me to summer. You know, just to feel like a part of his life, even for a few minutes.

Jack: Sounds like michael gave you some good advice. If I were you, I’d take it.

Taylor: Well, have you talked to kyle? Uh, was — was he okay?

Jack: I am not going to be a go-between. You and kyle are both adults. I have done my part. I will support kyle in whatever decision he makes about how things move forward.

Taylor: As you should.

Jack: You need to give him time and space. Diane, you were gone for years. He deserves some time to make this decision without any pressure. Do you understand that?

Taylor: Yes, jack, I — i accept what you’re saying.

Jack: Good.

Taylor: So, you and phyllis?

Jack: What about us?

Taylor: Well, you seem to be moving things along.

Sharon: [ Chuckles ] Um, I helped out a little. No, the best thing about tonight is mariah and tessa.

Nick: They look so happy. Uh…I don’t know. Do you, uh — you want to dance?

Sharon: Um…thank you, but, you know, you mentioned that rey really loved to dance, and chance had suggested that to me, too, but I don’t know.

Nick: Yeah. I get it.

Sharon: Um, but you should get out there. You don’t want to put this great outfit to waste.

Nick: I mean, I am really crushing this outfit. I know.

Sharon: Sure.

[ Both laugh ] Um, you know what? Hey, you should ask summer. She looks like she might want to dance with her dad.

Nick: Yeah. I shouldn’t pass up an opportunity to embarrass all of my children tonight.

Sharon: I absolutely agree. Do it.

Nick: So, you sure?

Kyle: Summer…my mother.

Summer: Hi. It’s been a long time.

Diane: Yes, it has. But I’ve been able to follow you and your career a bit over the years, and I’m — I’m so impressed with what a successful and lovely woman you’ve become. Oh, and congratulations on your own wedding. Clearly, you make my son very happy.

Summer: I do my best. He makes me extremely happy, as well.

Diane: That’s wonderful. Love is hard to find and even harder to keep. Uh, so, um, now that kyle and i have reconnected, I was hoping that maybe you and I could get re-acquainted, as well. Well, I-I’m not saying that we’re all of a sudden going to become best friends, but I was hoping that slowly, over time, we could forge some kind of relationship. I mean, I — I am your mother-in-law. Although I promise I won’t be the typical, annoying kind.

Summer: Nothing about this is typical.

Jack: [ Groans ] Oh, that looks like trouble.

Phyllis: Hell no. Look what she’s trying to do. I see it. She’s trying to insinuate herself into my daughter’s life. That’s not gonna happen. I’m gonna put a stop to that right —

Jack: No, no, no, don’t go.

Phyllis: Why not?

Jack: Because, as you said yourself, if you go over there, it will only escalate things. This is tessa and mariah’s big day. Let’s be fair to them.

Kevin: Hey, that toast you gave was so beautiful. It bordered on being intimidating. I’m glad you went after me ’cause it would have been too hard to follow that tear-jerker.

Crystal: Are you kidding? I was a wreck having to follow you. Yours was so poignant and true.

Mariah: Guys, it’s not a contest.

[ Laughter ]

Tessa: Both toasts were amazing.

Mariah: Yep.

Tessa: But I still cannot believe that you’re here.

Crystal: Sometimes it doesn’t even feel real.

Tessa: But it is.

Crystal: I’m hoping I can thank your brother for everything he did to help get the charges against me dropped so that I could come back to town.

Kevin: Yeah, I’m sure that can be arranged.

Crystal: Yeah.

Kevin: How long are you here for?

Crystal: I’m not sure.

Tessa: If it were up to me, she would stay forever, but tonight is good for starters.

Mariah: Well, why don’t we raise a toast to crystal?

Crystal: Ah.

Mariah: Welcome back.

Kevin: Yes.

Crystal: Thank you.

Tessa: And now can we talk about your dresses? I mean, incredible.

Chloe: I know. Chelsea did such an amazing job. I’m sorry that she couldn’t be here.

Mariah: Oh, yeah, she was fantastic, you know? She incorporated all of our very, very specific ideas. She was creative, collaborative. It was fantastic.

Tessa: Yes, they’re so original and tailored to us.

Chloe: Well, I will pass along the message. I’m sure she will love to hear it.

Mariah: I still can’t believe that we had our dream wedding without a hitch. I mean, there are so many things that could have gone wrong, right?

Kevin: Nothing would dare go wrong on friday the 13th. It’d be too on the nose.

Allie: So, I heard that you are responsible for the themes and decor of this wedding. Is that true?

Noah: Yeah, I had a little bit of input.

Allie: Ah. Well, it’s quite…fanciful.

Noah: “Fanciful.” That’s a — that’s an interesting word choice.

Allie: Well, I like to be specific with my words. I feel like saying you love something these days is really meaningless. Don’t you think?

Noah: Yeah. Yeah, I feel the same way. Alright. Fanciful. I’ll take it as a compliment.

Allie: Good. It was meant as one. So, abby said you’re an artist?

Noah: I was an artist.

Allie: Does anyone stop being an artist once they are one?

Noah: It’s complicated.

Allie: Yeah, well, most things are.

Noah: Yeah.

Allie: So, what kind of art do you do?

Noah: I’ve made a couple installations around the world for the past few years. I was based in london for a while. Obviously not there anymore. And I no longer do that kind of work.

Allie: What made you stop?

Noah: I just got burnt out. And I felt like I needed a change. I wanted to come back home. So, what do you think of genoa city so far?

Abby: Hmm.

Chance: [ Sighs ]

Abby: Well, it looks like they’re getting along better than they did at crimson lights.

Chance: Yeah, well, at least he’s a familiar face. I mean, this has to be overwhelming for allie, meeting all these new people.

Abby: Yeah, especially since some of them are family members that she never knew existed.

Chance: Well, I hope everyone’s been as welcoming as you have.

Abby: Yes. I mean, I feel, as a abbott-newman-chancellor, the more family members, the merrier, right? I am worried about my uncle jack. It’s got to be hard on him. Finding out that keemo died. Then he has a granddaughter that he never met and she’s all grown up. I mean, and diane coming back from the dead.

Chance: Have you got a chance to talk to him one-on-one yet?

Abby: No, not since our family interrogation of diane the other day.

Summer: Diane, I’m not sure how much “get to know you” time we’re gonna have while we’re here.

Diane: [ Chuckles ] Can I just say something? I haven’t always been an honest person, but I have worked really hard to become one. That’s how kyle and I have been dealing with each other, with brutal honesty at times. So, you don’t have to beat around the bush or be overly polite. You can be frank. You can tell me how you feel.

Summer: Okay. Well… I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around your return. And what you did to kyle as a boy — I think it’s awful. But you aren’t my mother. So I’m taking my husband’s lead. I care about what he’s feeling first and foremost, and I’m going to love and support him while he sorts through all of this.

Diane: I appreciate that. I admire it. And I agree that what I did was horrible. And I’m just praying that kyle will eventually find a way to forgive me.

Summer: I’m not gonna make a scene, okay? I’m not gonna do that. I’m just gonna go over there and tell diane in no uncertain terms that she’s not wanted here without anyone noticing.

Jack: Okay, don’t take this the wrong way. I’m just having a little trouble believing that.

Phyllis: I own a hotel. I throw people out on their butt every day very discreetly.

Jack: Okay.

Phyllis: Okay what? What does that mean — “okay”?

Jack: I’m just saying, if somebody is going to tell diane she has to leave, it should be me. What, you think I’m giving her too much slack?

Phyllis: [ Clears throat ] I think you’re in a bad position. I think you have a big heart and you want to do right by your son. I understand that. You want to make him happy. You don’t want to butt in and upset him or aggravate diane. I get it.

Jack: I admit I am frustrated, yes.

Phyllis: See, but I’m not you. I don’t have a big heart. She’s trying to insinuate herself into my daughter’s life. That — you know what? Go dance with allie, alright? I’m gonna go talk to her. No one will notice. I promise you.

Jack: Okay. Okay. I’m saying okay, but please don’t do anything that’s gonna cause a big scene.

Phyllis: I’m not gonna cause a big scene. I’m gonna stop one from happening. Okay? I’m amber, I’ve lost 128 pounds with golo,

Phyllis: Hey, diane. Well, this is a private event. Time for you to go.

Summer: We were just finishing up here.

Kyle: Phyllis, my mother just wanted to say hello to summer, and then she promised she would leave.

Phyllis: Oh, well, she’s still here.

Diane: [ Scoffs ] You know, thank you for looking out for me, kyle, but phyllis is right. I just came by to watch you officiate the wedding, but I — I should go. It was a pleasure to see you again.

Kyle: I’ll walk you out, make sure you get a cab. I’ll be back.

Phyllis: That bitch is trying to worm her way into our lives, summer. Who knows what kind of damage she’s thinking of causing.

Summer: I was wondering the exact same thing.

Phyllis: [ Breathes deeply ]

Allie: Genoa city is different than los angeles.

Noah: In a good way or bad way?

Allie: Mm, I don’t make quality judgments like that. Things are what they are. They’re not better or worse.

Noah: Okay, so, you’re analytical, you know, not subjective, kind of the opposite of the artistic mind.

Allie: [ Scoffs ] Whoa. How do you know that I’m not artistic?

Noah: I’m — I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to offend you.

Allie: Yeah, well, really, you have.

Noah: Okay.

Allie: Just kidding.

Noah: Oh, okay, so she does have a sense of humor.

[ Laughs ]

Jack: May I steal allie away? I’d like to introduce her to someone.

Allie: Oh, god. There couldn’t be any more abbotts, could there? Sorry. I’m joking.

Noah: Well, apparently we are making bad jokes.

Abby: I know losing rey has been a shock, something you’ll be processing for a while.

Noah: I guess I have to, to catch up with my sister nowadays. Seems like we only see each other at weddings — victoria’s, this one.

Summer: Mm. When I saw you in tuscany, you were thinking about coming to genoa city for a quick visit, and now it seems like you’ve grown roots.

Noah: I guess I’m enjoying the slower pace.

Summer: Well, it looks like you found ways to flex your artistic side. This place looks great.

Noah: Wow, was — was that an actual compliment?

Summer: Uh, don’t get used to it. You’re still annoying.

Summer: Dad can’t stop gushing about working with you. It’s kind of sickening.

Summer: Kyle’s putting her in a taxi right now to make sure that can’t happen. She said she just wanted to come and see him officiate the ceremony and to see me, which I found odd. And I think it’s shaken kyle up.

Nick: Hey, kids. Uh, just wanted to let you know we’re taking off.

Sharon: Your dad’s driving me home.

Faith: Oh, I’ll go with you.

Sharon: No, no. You stay here. You can’t ditch your date.

Faith: Are you sure?

Sharon: Absolutely. I’ll see you at home later. Have fun.

Nick: Not too much fun.

Moses: [ Chuckles ] Your dad was joking, right?

Faith: Yeah, I think so.

Moses: It’s cool that your mom let you stay. You think she’s doing better?

Faith: She’s still grieving. I think she will be for a long time. I’m really grateful that she talks to me so honestly about it. She’s so strong, such a good role model.

Moses: It’s nice that you have someone like that in your life.

Faith: Yeah. You have devon and nate.

Moses: Yeah. I’m really lucky to have such awesome people in my life. And most of all, you.

Faith: [ Chuckles ] Ooh.

Moses: I’m really excited that we’re going to the same college.

Faith: I am, too.

Devon: Hey.

Amanda: It looks like your baby brother is head over heels! Look at that.

Devon: Yeah. I see it.

Devon: I am happy. I’m gonna probably have a talk with him soon, though.

Devon: No, it’s not gonna be a buzzkill. I’m just gonna warn him about being in love at such a young age, you know? They’re both about to go to college. It’s gonna be a new environment, around new people, have new experiences. And feelings can change even when you don’t expect them to.

Amanda: Well, I agree with you in theory, but I have a feeling that those warnings are gonna go through one ear and out the other because you just — you can’t tell young love a damn thing.

Devon: No?

Nick: Well, I’m sure you’re tired, but if you’d like, i could, uh, hang out for a bit. I’ll even make the tea.

Sharon: Okay. Thank you. Although that seems like a pretty tame way to end the evening for someone as glam-tastically dressed as you.

[ Laughs ]

Diane: Ugh. Why am I not surprised? You must have rushed out of there to follow me home.

Phyllis: This is not your home, diane.

Diane: Are you stalking me now?

Phyllis: No, but you seem to be stalking kyle.

Diane: Oh, please. I wanted to catch a glimpse of my son officiating a wedding. That’s all. And you shouldn’t be calling me a party crasher when that’s exactly what you did.

Phyllis: Well, how do you figure that?

Diane: Uh, you went as jack’s plus-one, so I’m sure no one was sad to see you leave, either.

Phyllis: Okay, first of all — oh, no, no, no. You’re not me, okay? You’re not me. And nobody wants you around.

Diane: That’s not necessarily true. Kyle defended me when you were so ungraciously trying to kick me out.

Phyllis: You are misreading kyle’s actions. He doesn’t know what to say. He doesn’t know what he wants right now. But — but I have confidence that, with summer’s urging, he’ll figure out that letting you back in his life was a huge mistake.

Diane: God, this is really getting tedious. Are you done?

Phyllis: No, I’m not done! You are a cancer! You are a cancer here! I want you out! I want you gone!

Tessa: Okay, ready?

Mariah: Yeah. Hey, guys? Uh, hello? Uh, we — we just wanted to, uh — to say som–

Sharon: I hope that for the rest of their lives they’ll always be happy and healthy and in love. But I hate that life has taught me that that’s not always possible.

Nick: Sharon, I know life can be, uh, tough and very cruel at times. But mariah and tessa — no matter what they face in the future, they know they will always have a very loving and supporting family that they can count on.

Sharon: Thanks for always being here when I need you. Especially these last few weeks. I don’t think I could have gotten through them without you.

Diane: I’d offer you a drink, but I don’t want to.

Phyllis: Oh, that’s okay. I don’t want one. Um, so, I’m going to talk to you as, uh, the owner of this hotel. Um, I let you stay here because you wanted to talk to kyle and — what? — Make peace. I also wanted to keep an eye on you. But, see, you’ve talked to kyle, and now it’s in his hands. You keep on teasing us, saying you’re leaving — “I’m leaving” — but you’re still here. So, I’m gonna make it real easy on you. Get the hell out of my hotel, diane.

Diane: You can order me out of your hotel, but you can’t make me leave town, and I am staying right here until kyle decides one way or another. I believe that kyle is capable of forgiving me. And maybe jack, too.

Phyllis: Oh, my… you are delusional.

Kyle: Mmm. I’ve missed you so much.

Summer: I can’t imagine how difficult this has been for you. It was so painful when I wasn’t sure who my father was. I — just the confusion of not knowing my place or my identity. It might be a bit like what you’re going through.

Kyle: It’s hard for me to figure out exactly how to feel. I’m happy you’re here. And I don’t expect you to have an opinion or anything.

Summer: Oh, but I do.

Kyle: Really? ‘Cause you just met my mother. Or re-met her.

Jack: Good night, allie. So, what is going on? You disappeared from the reception.

Phyllis: Yeah, because I went to the hotel to confront diane.

Jack: Phyllis —

Phyllis: No, I didn’t make a scene. It was no big deal. But, um, she will be leaving town now.

Jack: Wait. What makes you think that?

Phyllis: Uh…I kicked her out of my hotel.

Jack: Okay. Well, there wasn’t a big scene at the wedding.

Phyllis: No, and I also told her no one wants here here. That’s it. Listen. Do you have problem a with my doing this? I mean, I thought you would be a little bit more appreciative. Are you still on the fence about having diane here?

Jack: I want kyle to get some closure, and I don’t think he’s gotten it yet. And your putting your foot on the scale probably doesn’t help. If she feels forced out, it could backfire on us, and as much as I hate the idea, kyle still needs time with his mother.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] Alright. I just let my own hatred for diane get the best of me, i guess. Sorry. I apologize.

Jack: No, no, don’t — don’t apol– don’t apologize. You were being you, and I happen to like you.

Phyllis: Thank you. It was a lovely night otherwise.

Jack: It was, wasn’t it?

Phyllis: Yeah. Thank you for asking me to be your date.

Kyle: Welcome to the wedding of mariah copeland and tessa porter. Weddings are generally solemn occasions. Two people proclaiming their love and commitment to each other in a very public forum requires some seriousness, after all. And while tessa and mariah take their commitment to each other very seriously, this wedding will be…”the funkiest, grooviest, most bad-ass wedding you’ve ever been to.”

[ Laughter ]

[ Cheers and applause ]

Kyle: Tessa and mariah have written their own vows to each other that they would like to share with us at this time. Tessa.

Tessa: [ Sighs ] I knew today would be the happiest day of my life, because it was the day that we begin our married life together. I’m not gonna lie, I — I never thought I would be here, because I had given up on love and everything that comes with it. But you broke down all my walls. You saw all of me.

[ Chuckles ] The best of me, the worst.

[ Both laugh ] And you embraced me entirely. Our connection is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. It fills my soul and inspires me. Every lyric and every note of every song is about you and the love that we share together, because everything that I’ve learned about love is because of you. I have many more songs to write, so I can’t wait for our future together. And I can’t wait to see what lessons we learn along our beautiful adventure. I promise to be your partner through all of it. Your best friend, your champion, and your shoulder to lean on, now and always.

Mariah: Wow.

[ Both laugh ] You got me all teary.

[ Sighs ] Even though I have wanted this for so long, I cannot believe that we are actually here. Growing up, wishes like this just didn’t come true for me. And I never had much. And then a miracle happened — the first miracle of the two great miracles of my life. I found my mom.

[ Sniffles ] And sharon has taught me so much. I’ve learned so much from her. I learned how to love, and i learned how important it is, so I was ready for you when you came along. Even though I didn’t exactly know what was happening at first.

[ Laughs ] I just thought…I had met an amazing person who was gonna become my friend. And I soon realized that it was, you know, a bit more than friendship. And the date — our first date that kyle set up — when you held my hand, it just felt right. And looking around now, it all feels so right. Tessa, I am so grateful that you are in my life.

[ Chuckles ] And I swear you are magic.

[ Both laugh ] You are like an alchemist — everything you touch turns to gold. And so here we are, committing our lives to each other, about to start our own family, and i know that that’s gonna be golden, too. Allie: Yes, even billy. He’s been great. You know, I actually met your mom while I was out in la.

Allie: She’s one of the big reasons that I’m here. She’s been really supportive of jack and I to spend time together.

Summer: Hmm, well, if she was encouraging you to come out here, you must have passed her test. She can be supportive, but she’s also super protective of jack, of anyone she loves, really.

Allie: Oh, yeah, yeah, I have seen that side of her, too. When she heard that kyle’s mom was alive and had orchestrated the whole thing, oh, man, she was not happy about that.

Summer: Rightfully so. This whole thing has been so crazy. It’s been really hard on kyle.

Allie: He’ll be really glad that you’re here.

Summer: Well, he won’t be thrilled that I’m late, which wasn’t my fault, by the way. My flight was delayed. But I do need to get to the wedding, so we better get dressed and ready.

Allie: Wait, we?

Summer: Yeah. You’re coming with me, right?

Kyle: Tessa, will you take mariah to be your wife? Will you love, honor, and cherish mariah and remain faithful to her as long as you both shall live?

Tessa: I will.

Tessa: [ Exhales sharply ]

Allie: Wait, you want me to go to the wedding?

Allie: Which I really appreciate. Jack did invite me, it’s just that I am not comfortable going.

Summer: But you’ll know people there — I mean, me, jack, kyle, my mom.

Allie: Yes, but I’ve never even met the happy couple.

Summer: Oh, don’t even worry about those two. They have a “more the merrier” mentality. I mean, if mariah wants me there, I’m sure she would welcome a stranger like you with open arms.

Allie: You two don’t get along?

Summer: Hmm, not since the first time we met.

Allie: [ Chuckles ]

Summer: But as big of a pain as she can be, she’s kyle’s best friend, and tessa’s pretty cool.

Allie: Yeah, yeah, I am a big fan of her music.

Summer: Well, then think of this as an opportunity to meet her in person. It’s gonna be a fun wedding. And we’re late, so we’re missing all the boring parts. It’ll just be a big party.

Allie: Yeah, thing is, I am not really a big party person.

Summer: Oh, did I say a big party? No, I meant a small, delightful gathering of pleasant and friendly individuals.

Allie: Oh, right, right, right. Somehow I don’t think I should be trusting you.

Summer: Hmm, probably not, but I don’t think that you should stay in this enormous old house by yourself. It’s probably haunted.

Allie: Really? Really, you’re gonna scare me into going with you?

Summer: [ Scoffs ] Come to the wedding, allie. I promise you, you’re gonna have a good time. And if you don’t, you can come back here and never take my word for anything ever again. Deal?

Allie: Okay, okay, I will go.

Summer: Yes! You won’t regret this.

Allie: Yeah, but the problem is I don’t have anything to wear.

Summer: That’s not a problem at all. See, I just got off the plane from milan, the fashion capital of the world, with all of these enormous suitcases, so we’ve got plenty of options. We’ll find you the perfect outfit. Now let’s get ready.

Allie: [ Sighs ]

Faith: Ladies and gentlemen, please join me in welcoming mariah and tessa as they share their first dance as a married couple.

[ Cheers and applause ]

Tessa: We did it.

Mariah: Yes, we did. Got dressed up in fancy dresses and got our hair did and in front of all of these people said, “I love this woman and i want her to be my wife.”

Tessa: We did. And you look amazing.

Mariah: You look more amazing.

Tessa: Do you think that’s why everyone’s staring at us? Because we looking amazing?

Mariah: I think that’s exactly why.

Nick: I know what you’re thinking.

Sharon: Yeah? What?

Nick: Rey would’ve loved this.

Sharon: That’s exactly it. I know he would have said this is the most beautiful wedding he’s ever seen, since ours.

Nick: He’s here. He’s with us. So is cassie.

Kevin: I am so proud of them. You know, there was a time i didn’t think their relationship would survive. But all the obstacles, all the pain they caused each other, it didn’t tear them apart. You know why? I will tell you why — because the love is always there. Just goes to show you, the power of love can conquer all. Ow. What was that for?

Chloe: You know what. Our relationship should’ve taught you that. Everything that we have been through ought to have proved that if two people are meant to be, then they are meant to be.

Kevin: Well, of course, but, you know, with mariah and tessa, it was shaky. Things were touch-and-go for a while. We didn’t know that they were gonna have a happy ending. But with you and me, babe, baby bird, it was written in the stars. There was never any doubting our love.

Chloe: Oh, nice save, fisher.

Kevin: Thank you.

[ Chuckles ]

Chloe: You know what I think is so amazing about this wedding?

Kevin: What’s that?

Chloe: Just a few years ago, this never would have happened. It wasn’t legal. And now, no one would even question it. Two people should be able to marry whoever they want, and that is the real power of love.

Phyllis: Hey.

Amanda: I didn’t expect to see you here.

Amanda: [ Scoffs ] It means that every time I talk to you, you say that you two are just friends, but I don’t know, I don’t think that a friend invites their buddy to a wedding.

Kyle: Yeah, me too, but we had no idea what was in store for me. After we leave here, we’ll go back to the house and sit down and I’ll tell you everything about what’s been going on.

Jack: She’s over talking to tessa. Apparently, she’s a big fan of tessa’s music.

Jack: It’s just been lovely. Not just a romantic wedding, but it’s been a welcome respite from all the crises in our lives.

Phyllis: Yeah, that’s true, that’s true.

Jack: Didn’t actually know i needed a break.

Jack: Just one night without thinking about diane. Is that too much to ask?

Noah: I’ve only been back in town a couple months myself.

Crystal: So how was london?

Noah: Parts of it were good. Other parts of it were a little rough.

Abby: I haven’t had a chance to say hi to you yet. I’m just so happy to see you.

Tessa: Same.

Abby: I just heard what rey did, and I shouldn’t be surprised because, well, he was such a good guy. But I’m so happy that he had all the charges against you dropped. It was a terrible situation, and I can’t imagine what you’ve been through the past few years.

Crystal: It’s all behind me now. I’m focused on the future, and I haven’t felt this good in a really long time.

Abby: I’m so glad to hear that. And, please, if you need anything, anything at all, while you’re in town, let me know. I’m happy to help.

Crystal: That’s so sweet. I really appreciate it. Everyone’s been so nice.

Noah: I think we’re all just relieved to see you doing so well.

Crystal: Thank you. And I heard from tessa that you’re doing really well, too — a husband and a baby.

Abby: It’s true. I have never been happier.

Chance: Congratulations, mother of the bride.

Sharon: Oh, thanks, chance.

Chance: This is — it’s very beautiful. Must be proud.

Sharon: I’m overwhelmed with joy.

Chance: And yet I’ve seen you standing here by yourself for most of the night.

Chance: Thinking about rey?

Sharon: Someone told me that he’s here with us, probably on the dance floor.

Chance: I’ll tell you, he’s out there, and he is tearing up that dance floor. I am sure of it. But you need to go celebrate yourself. You know, have some fun, enjoy it. You should be dancing, too.

Phyllis: Glad you’re happy. Keep that. I need to tell you something.

Jack: Okay, tell me. Tell me.

Phyllis: Don’t worry about it. I have it under control. Diane is here.

Jack: What?

Phyllis: Yeah. She’s here. That was my initial reaction. Don’t worry, I got it. I just didn’t want to rush her, ’cause I didn’t want to ruin tessa and mariah’s evening.

Jack: I cannot believe she — what am I saying? Of course I can believe it. It’s diane. What, she wants to let the whole world know that she’s alive?

Phyllis: I don’t think she’s gonna do that. She would’ve already done it by now. I think she just wants to watch kyle.

Jack: She better not make a scene here.

Phyllis: Oh, she’s not going to, trust me. I have it under control.

Summer: Congratulations!

Mariah: Summer! Do you really mean that?

Summer: I do. I believe that everyone deserves a chance at love and happiness, even you, mariah. Hey, tessa, congratulations.

Tessa: Oh, thank you, summer. Thank you for coming.

Mariah: Oh, no, I do–

[ Chuckles ] I don’t want to wrinkle my dress.

Summer: So I was just going to say that you two look terrific. Those dresses are perfect. So much nicer than what you usually wear.

Summer: I was — I was joking. I actually have changed a lot. Motherhood and marriage will do that to you. My perspective has shifted, and I’m really, really happy. I know you’ll experience the same thing when you start a family. It’s going to be awesome, and you deserve it.

Mariah: Mm-hmm. And?

Summer: And…nothing.

Mariah: There’s no little jab or clever little put-down.

Summer: No. I mean it. I wish you and tessa nothing but happiness.

Kyle: You can do it.

Kyle: [ Chuckles ] See? Was that so hard?

Mariah: Yes, it was excruciating.

Summer: [ Chuckles ]

Kyle: Uh…excuse me. I need to go take care of something. What are you doing here?

Diane: I came to see you.

Kyle: No, first you show up at the house unannounced, and now you’re here. What are you up to? You love rich, delicious ice cream.

Diane: I’m not up to anything. I came here to watch you officiate the wedding. It was such a kind and generous thing to do.

Kyle: You know, I could’ve told you all about it after the fact. You didn’t need to show up here. And the ceremony’s been over for a while, so what are you still doing here?

Diane: [ Scoffs ] It’s not like I’m going to make a grand announcement or anything that I’ve returned.

Kyle: Okay, that’s not the point. I don’t want this event to suddenly become about you instead of the happy couple. And if someone sees you, that could happen. So I’d appreciate it if you left.

Diane: Okay, okay. But I’d just like to do one thing first before I go. Could I just say hello to summer?

Kyle: Now?

Diane: It’s been years.

Kyle: I think you can wait.

Diane: She’s your wife, my daughter-in-law. Please, kyle. It would mean so much to me.

Kevin: May I have your attention? It is now time for toasts. Please grab a drink and join me as we salute our favorite couple.

[ Whooping, cheering ] Today has been so great. The ceremony was 100% mariah and tessa. It was fun, colorful, full of love. It completely captured the essence of this couple that we all admire and adore.

[ Cheering ] I know that it has been a long road for the two of you to get here. There were twists, turns, bumps along the way. But I am so happy that you made it. Everyone here is, and you can feel it. Everyone in this room is out of their minds crazy about the two of you.

[ Cheering ] I mean, listen to that. Traditionally, there is not a lot of whooping and hollering at weddings. But your exuberance is so infectious. You make us all want to be joyful, happy, in love. We have all been rooting for you two for years.

[ Shouts of agreement ] So the theme of the day is “love conquers all.” And you two have conquered every obstacle that has come your way. Your happiness is our happiness. Your joy is our joy.

[ Sighs ] And your love is our love. To mariah and tessa!

[ Cheering ]

Mariah: Oh. Okay. [ Laughs ] Thank you. Kevin, thank you.

Tessa: We just wanted to say thank you all for coming today.

Mariah: Yeah, even summer.

[ Laughter ]

Tessa: We can’t tell you how much it means to us that you are all here to celebrate with us.

Mariah: I think the celebration has been a little tame…

Mariah: …Up until now. Don’t you think?

Tessa: And then kevin gave his speech that made mariah weepy again.

Faith: Thank you.

Sharon: And one mimosa for the absolutely beautiful bride.

Mariah: Oh, thank you. This is exactly what I need.

Sharon: Mm-hmm.

Faith: I know that everyone will be toasting you all night, so allow me to be the first.

Mariah: By all means. Go ahead.

Faith: You are the best sister that a girl could ever have. And please don’t tell summer that.

Mariah: Got it, I will put it in the vault.

Faith: You always have my back, and today, I have yours. To the bride.

Sharon: To the bride. Yeah! Cheers.

Sharon: Mmm.

Faith: Okay, now that that is out of the way, I just want to let you know that I am on top of this wedding. All you have to do is relax and enjoy your day.

Mariah: Where did we get this fantastic project manager?

[ Laughs ]

Faith: Last night, as I was falling asleep, I had a realization. This is what I was born to do — to make this day unforgettable for you. So if there’s anything that you need, let me know.

[ Laughs ]

Sharon: If you will excuse me, something has got my attention.

Faith: Anything I can help you with?

Sharon: No, no, I’m fine. Really, I got this.

Faith: She’s fine. As if.

Mariah: How do you really think she’s doing?

Faith: [ Sighs ] Pretty good, considering. She really needed a happy distraction.

Mariah: Well, I get a wedding, and she gets something to take her mind off of rey. It’s a win-win.

Faith: Okay, staying on schedule. Should I call kevin so he can come over and get ready with the rest of us? I mean, he is your man-of-honor.

Mariah: As seriously as kevin takes his responsibilities as my most trusted dude, I don’t think he wants to be here when we’re arguing over curling irons.

Faith: Yeah, I guess you’re right.

Mariah: Oh, wow. So if this is the fourth course of that incredible brunch that you made me this morning, I’m good.

[ Chuckles ]

Sharon: I think you’ll enjoy this even more.

Mariah: Oh, what the heck?

Sharon: Something old, something new.

Mariah: Wow. I guess this really is my wedding day.

[ Sighs ]

Tessa: Oh, my goodness. Crystal, I cannot remember the last time I stayed up all night talking.

Crystal: We had a lot of catching up to do.

[ Laughs ]

Tessa: Yes, we did, and I am so glad. I cannot wait to show you off to all my new friends and all the usual suspects. They’re not even gonna recognize you.

Crystal: We can do all that later. You’ll have way more important things on your mind. Everybody will be focused on my rock star sister and her stunning bride.

Tessa: Oh. I can’t wait to see mariah. We’ve managed to keep what we’re wearing a secret from each other so far, but I just — I really hope she likes it.

Crystal: I’d love to see it.

Tessa: Me too.

Crystal: Hmm?

Tessa: I don’t actually have the dress in my possession right now, but I will.

Crystal: When?

Tessa: Uh, yeah, it’s gonna be plenty of time.

Crystal: Oh. Okay.

Tessa: Uh…yeah, the designer’s gonna drop it off any minute.

Noah: Okay, seriously, give me your honest opinion and please do not be afraid to hurt my feelings.

Nick: I mean, artists — you’re so needy.

Noah: Dad —

Nick: What is it you have to hear?

Noah: I am a bottomless pit of need when it comes to praise, okay? I think it has something to do with the way I was raised. Maybe not enough attention when I was a kid or something.

Nick: Okay. What you did at the top of the tower — transcendent.

Noah: Okay, smart guy. Yeah.

Nick: Hey, you asked, so I’m telling you. I’m actually extremely proud of you. It’s awesome. I also know what an incredible thing it is you’re doing for your sister and the woman she’s planning to marry, because i know how you still feel about tessa.

Noah: [ Sighs ]

Jack: Hey, there. Nice threads, kyle.

Kyle: Ooh, that’s “reverend kyle” to you. You are looking at a freshly licensed and ordained minister.

Jack: Well, cufflinks — here.

Kyle: Want to help?

Jack: So what’s the first order of business?

Kyle: Well, first and probably last, I will be officiating mariah and tessa’s wedding later.

Jack: That is fantastic. Congratulations to all of you. I’m sure mariah is thrilled. She’s a good friend.

Kyle: Yeah, the best. I’m glad she talked me into this.

Jack: Look, for what it’s worth, I understand your initial decision to skip the wedding ’cause of all you’re dealing with with your mother.

Kyle: Hey, the secret to today is compartmentalization. I’m taking all of my conflicting emotions about my mother and her place in my life, and I am putting them in a little box until I finish my job officiating this wedding.

Jack: Great idea, mister.

Kyle: And it’s not just mariah and tessa having a big day. If it weren’t for me setting up their first date, they might not even be together.

Jack: Your modesty is astounding.

Kyle: It’s a good feeling.

Jack: I’ll bet it is.

Kyle: Oh, and I have some more good news. Summer convinced her people at marchetti they can survive some time without her.

Jack: Wait, summer is coming home?

Kyle: She’ll be touching down soon.

Jack: Oh, that is wonderful. I am so happy for you. I know how much you’ve missed her, dealing with all these complicated issues with your mother.

Kyle: Hey.

Jack: Not today, though.

Kyle: Today is about mariah and tessa.

Jack: Who knows? Maybe diane is already on her way back to los angeles.

Diane: Oh. Are you this attentive to all your guests?

Phyllis: I have a better question for you. What are you still doing here? I mean, I love watching a train wreck, but this is excruciating, even for me.

Diane: Well, I’m so sorry to be such a distraction. By all means, avert your eyes.

Phyllis: I mean, I know how the abbotts reacted to you being in town, but I got to think that the newmans want you dead and buried again, permanently this time.

Diane: I do still have a son in town.

Phyllis: Diane, if you’re waiting for him to forgive you, you’re be gonna waiting a really long time.

Diane: Well, I refuse to give up hope, and I’m aware that it will take time to prove that I’ve changed.

Phyllis: Try forever.

Diane: Alright, if that’s what it takes. I want to make amends. I want to be part of kyle’s life. I’ve changed. And jack is beginning to see that, too. I do believe I’m winning him over to my side.

Sharon: That’s so great.

Mariah: So we can always find our way back to the beginning. Faith, I love it.

Sharon: Alright, something borrowed. But I get this one back.

Mariah: Of course.

Sharon: This handkerchief belonged to rey’s grandmother. And she carried it with her on her wedding day, and rey gave it to me on ours.

Mariah: Wow. It’s so beautiful. Like, the embroidery, it’s so intricate. I love it. You know, rey is the reason that crystal is here. That was his gift to us. He knew how much family meant to us, and that’s what he gave us. One more person to love and to witness our happiness.

[ Chuckles ]

Sharon: Okay, well, time for something blue.

Faith: Me again. This stone is kind of like you. Hear me out. It’s supposed to have all these healing and protective qualities, but I just like the way it feels in my hand. It calms me down when I start to get stressed out. I have carried it with me during some — let’s call them challenging times. When mom was sick, when I was in the hospital, even on my first date with moses.

Mariah: It’s beautiful.

Faith: I feel like it’s got some really good juju, you know? And maybe a little bit of magic.

Mariah: [ Sighs ] I never thought that I would be the girl that gets any of this, and, you know, look at me now. I’m somebody’s bride.

[ Laughs ]

Faith: No, not “somebody.” Tessa is the person that you were meant for, and she is meant for you.

Mariah: I am the luckiest girl in the world to have you both in my life.

[ Laughs ] Sharing this day with the both of you, it’s like a dream come true.

[ Chuckles ]

Noah: If you’re worried that I’m gonna stand up and object during the ceremony, don’t be. I have officially moved past my feelings for tessa.

Nick: Alright, I mean, you’re saying and doing all the right things, but deep down, you know, can you honestly say you’re completely over her?

Noah: Now that I’ve had some time and distance, I realize that the feelings I was having were more about my breakup back in london, and now I knew nothing was ever gonna happen with tessa, so it felt safe, if that makes sense.

Nick: Yeah, I get it. Look, you know, I’m sorry about what happened in london. But, son, love is rarely easy.

Noah: Well, damn, you couldn’t have told me that a couple years ago?

Nick: Well, that’s why when you have moments like this, you celebrate it, you know? When it’s found. And trust me, love is gonna happen for you, too.

Noah: Honestly, I am not looking for it. No, if it comes to me, that’s great, but for now, I am done feeling sorry for myself. Now, I came back home ’cause i felt like I needed to put an ocean between me and my ex, and it felt like I was sacrificing something in doing so, but, dad, I am happy. I am happy for the first time in a long time, so I’m just gonna sit back and enjoy my life.

Nick: Well, then you are a fully actualized, completely enlightened human being. My work is done here.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Nick: Now it’s off to my other children.

Noah: Yeah.

Nick: Seriously, though, I’m proud of you.

Noah: Finally. Finally! First time today, I didn’t have to beg someone for validation.

Noah: So now that we have fully explored all of my heartache and scars…

Noah: This can’t be easy for you either, walking cassie’s twin down the aisle.

Nick: Um…[ Chuckles ] Honestly, there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about cassie. You know, what could’ve been.

[ Sighs ] What should’ve been. This wedding has brought up all those emotions.

Noah: Feeling all the feels?

Nick: Yeah. I’m trying to focus on the good ones, you know? ‘Cause I get to walk cassie’s sister down the aisle, and i know in my heart that she’s looking down and she’s very, very happy that her sister gets this incredible day.

Diane: Oh, my, that was extreme, even for you.

Phyllis: You want to win jack to your side? Nothing about you has changed. You’re still playing your games. You’re trying to worm yourself in to people’s lives, aren’t you?

Diane: No, no, no. It was the mention of jack that set you off, which makes me wonder about the state of your relationship. You know, at first, I thought you two were a couple again. But now I think I must’ve been mistaken, because after all the hurt and betrayal and trauma, i just can’t imagine there’s anything romantic left between the two of you.

Phyllis: I can’t imagine that you would think that you had a shot in hell with jack.

Diane: You neither confirmed nor denied.

Phyllis: What is your plan? What do you think you’re gonna obtain? Seriously, I shouldn’t be in shock because you faked your own death for so long. This should not surprise me at all.

Jack: I thought you decided to return to los angeles when you heard kyle was headed back to milan.

Diane: Yes, but his plans have changed, so I changed mine, just in case.

Diane: Well, I’m not assuming anything. He has been in touch with me. He’s not shutting me out.

Jack: Not shutting you out is not the same as an open invitation to insinuate yourself into his life. Give him time and space to deal with all of that. It’s the least he deserves.

Phyllis: If we want to talk about what people deserve —

Jack: Diane, don’t let us keep you.

Diane: [ Scoffs ]

Crystal: I can’t believe my sister is now a famous singer-songwriter who gets her clothes straight from the designer.

Tessa: Oh, well, maybe famous-ish.

Crystal: Where we came from, nobody winds up famous. Infamous, maybe.

Tessa: I did get really lucky, didn’t I?

Crystal: And you’ve got talent. Went from busking for change to going on tour — I mean, your first album just dropped. I’m so proud of you, tessa. You did it. You made your dreams come true, and now you’re like this guitar-playing, morphing-butterfly goddess.

Tessa: Oh. I love you so much.

Faith: Where’s my list? I need to make sure we’re still on schedule.

Sharon: You are doing such a great job.

Mariah: You know, between this and the killer engagement party that you threw me, I think that you could set up shop as an event planner.

Faith: You mean you think i could earn money from this?

Mariah: Yeah, a fortune.

Sharon: I’d pay you in hugs and kisses.

Faith: [ Chuckles ] Thanks, mom.

Crystal: We didn’t grow up with too much love around us, so this is good for my heart, seeing that it’s possible. Heck, maybe there’s someone out there for me.

Tessa: Yeah, of course there is. Mariah isn’t just my love. She’s my life. I don’t know where I would be without her. She refuses to let me self-destruct and she is willing to do everything for me. She would put anything on the line for me.

Crystal: Sign me up, girl. But first, let’s get you ready to marry that extraordinary woman.

Noah: Okay, so she didn’t warn you about us. Well, we newmans are genetically inclined to making awkward jokes. You should see my father. Anyway, you know, there’s actually an app now for you abbotts that warns you whenever a newman’s within 500 feet, so might want to look into that. Uh…

Allie: I’m sorry?

Noah: I, um — abby, do your job, come on.

Abby: Well, I am so sorry that I can’t help you with your sad sense of humor. What my nephew is trying to say and failing miserably at is that there is a history between the families. It’s been shakespearean at times.

Allie: Got it.

Noah: Yeah, that about covers it.

Abby: But noah is a visual artist. He communicates better with pictures, not his words.

Noah: Yeah, I am an acquired taste.

Allie: [ Chuckles ]

Kyle: I’m going to my best friend’s wedding. I’m officiating.

Diane: [ Exhales sharply ] My son the minister.

Kyle: The online variety.

Diane: Well, I just love weddings. You’re going to have a wonderful time. You know, this is what I wanted for you — the life I dreamed you’d live once I stepped out of it. Friends, family, a community. I couldn’t be prouder.

Kyle: Well, I’m running late.

Diane: Oh, don’t let me keep you.

Phyllis: What is she up to? We need to find out.

Jack: I appreciate and understand your instinct. She is never going to be forthcoming.

Phyllis: Well, of course not. She’s not gonna admit anything. I have a very, very bad feeling, jack. We can’t let our guard down.

Jack: Phyllis, I know what this is really about.

Phyllis: You do?

Jack: Yes, because I know you, red. This is about what you think this is going to do to summer.

Phyllis: Yeah, yeah, it is about that.

Jack: I assume you’ve heard the latest there.

Phyllis: Yes, I heard that she — she’ll be at the wedding. I’m really excited.

Jack: Yeah, it’s great news. So let’s stop spending our energy worrying about what diane is going to do. Ms. Summers, would you do me the honor of accompanying me to what promises to be the greatest wedding of the year?

Phyllis: There is nothing i would like more than to accompany you to this wedding, mr. Abbott.

Tessa: And the pice de résistance.

Crystal: [ Gasps ] Wow. Oh. I look so badass.

[ Chuckles ]

Tessa: You were born in the wrong decade.

Crystal: This is too wild, right? Being here in genoa city, being able to go to your wedding.

Tessa: I know, right? Did I tell you that there were two separate proposals?

Crystal: [ Chuckles ]

Tessa: I proposed to her and then she proposed to me.

Crystal: Why am I not surprised?

Tessa: Well, I was so blissed out when she said yes, and then we started making plans and her family was so supportive and thrilled for us. I couldn’t help but think what it would be like at our wedding alone, with no parents and you — you couldn’t risk it.

Crystal: Rey rosales will always have a special place in our hearts.

Tessa: Forever and always, because having you here is just so incredible.

Sharon: Our very talented son put all of this together. We have a lot to be proud of today.

Abby: I cannot believe that my nephew put all this together out of nothing.

Sharon: He did a fantastic job.

Kevin: Maybe we can get him to leave it up for a few days. This seems like an amazing place to have some after-school play-dates.

Abby: Oh, yes, I love that idea. I think mariah and tessa would, too.

Kevin: They are an amazing couple.

Abby: Yeah.

Kevin: And that is one proud dad right there.

Sharon: [ Chuckles ]

Abby: He’s the best.

Sharon: Oh, um…excuse me for a moment. Crystal. It’s sharon.

Crystal: Oh, my god, it’s so great to see you again.

Crystal: I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I said I wouldn’t do this.

Sharon: No, that’s okay.

Crystal: It isn’T. You did so much for me when i was mixed up in that nightmare with zack, and I know the reason that I’m here is because of your husband, rey, and I’m so sorry for your loss.

Sharon: Thank you. Mariah said that this is rey’s wedding gift — removing the obstacles so that you could be here to enjoy this amazing occasion.

Crystal: I’m sorry to bring him up on such a happy day.

Sharon: No, no need to apologize. Rey is the reason that we can be happy after so much heartache. I’m just so glad that tessa’s able to have some family with her today, and that’s what I’m gonna focus on.

Kyle: Hi, sharon. I heard about rey. I’m so sorry for your loss.

Sharon: Thank you. Thanks for saying that, kyle. And thanks for changing your plans so that you could be here for mariah and do this for her. I know that it means a lot to her.

Kyle: Me too. And sorry for interrupting.

Sharon: No, not at all. This is crystal, tessa’s sister.

Kyle: Ah, it’s so good to meet you. Tessa’s a good friend of mine. I’m kyle.

[ Clears throat ]

Reverend kyle.

Crystal: Are you the minister?

Kyle: I was just ordained online, but don’t let it scare you that this is my first time. Tessa and mariah are in very caring and capable hands. And in case you don’t know, I’m the reason they got together in the first place, but I’ll save the details for the toast.

Jack: Hey, there. Are we late?

Phyllis: Congratulations, sharon.

Sharon: Oh, thank you, phyllis.

Jack: Congratulations.

Sharon: Thank you.

Kyle: Not at all. You’re right on time.

Phyllis: Where are the brides? Are they here?

Kyle: Yes, but they haven’t seen each other, and I’m happy to report I have never seen two people more ready to get married. Looking to get back in your type 2 diabetes zone?

Phyllis: So where’s summer?

Kyle: Her flight was delayed, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that she gets here soon. But if you’ll excuse me, I need to make sure that I’m standing in the right place to perform my officiating duties. So who’s running this show?

Faith: That would be me.

Kyle: Impressive.

Faith: Everyone, please take a seat so we can celebrate our super-funky couple and lift them up with the power of our love. Kyle.
