believe I was dead to regain control of the cassadine legacy. And you want the satisfaction of taking all of that away.

[ Chuckles ] I can’t believe you’re gonna try to position yourself as the victim here. Your son opened his eyes and saw you for who you really are — the bastard who let me go to prison for six years for a crime I didn’t commit. Now, you sent someone to kill hayden, but you let me take the fall. Now, you might not want to own the truth, oh, but your son has. For all of spencer’s faults, he is 10 times the man you will ever be.

I stick my neck out for him and hire him, even though he has no experience and a lousy attitude, and he bails on me day one. What’s wrong with the guy? Oh. Good. You guys are here. No sign of ava or spence’s dad. I can’t tell you what a relief it is to be among friends. Where? What friends?

[ Sighs ]

so, nikolas, my nephew… mm-hmm. I always thought he might be a good cassadine ’cause he had a nice mother. And he was good for a while. And in about 10 years or so, he went bad, went to the dark side, became a real cassadine. And then there’s his son, spencer, who, um, went to france, boarding school, came home, graduated, back in port charles, decided that he couldn’t stand his — his father’s wife, ava, and he set out to break them up. Mm. How bad did it get? He stalked her. Oh. You know, at first, he started out just sending her creepy gifts, and then it sort of accelerated into full-blown stalking until finally, he torched her car. You know, the cassadines don’t sound so strange to me. Really? Yeah. Not compared to shiloh and dawn of day. Mm. I spent years under the spell of a man who demanded unwavering loyalty from his family in exchange for betrayal and abuse. So, you know… at least no matter how misguided spencer’s actions were, they were motivated by love. I suppose that’S… one way to look at it.

[ Sighs ] I mean, the poor kid, he idolized his father. And if he had just seen his flaws and recognized them instead of becoming like him… mm-hmm. You’re not really speaking about spencer, are you? You know, you may have made a good therapist had you gone that route.

[ Chuckles ] No, I’m not. ‘Cause the same holds true for nikolas. I just had so much hope that he would become that young man that I knew and loved so much. But, alas, he didn’t, and I was dead wrong. Spare me the “holier than thou” attitude. You don’t give a damn about spencer. You were just trying to use him to wring a confession out of me. I did spencer a favor and opened his eyes.

[ Scoffs ] So now maybe your son doesn’t have to turn himself inside out, making everyone else miserable trying to earn your respect. I don’t suppose that you explained to spencer why you pled guilty to shooting hayden, did you? Yeah. I didn’t think so. You thought you actually shot hayden. Because you were at that garage on sonny’s orders to kill someone! Or are you gonna stand there and claim that your hands are clean? I paid for my mistakes, just like I paid for yours. But there’s still one debt left outstanding. What’s that? The one you’ve owed hayden ever since you tried to have her killed. She’s entitled to justice, and you’re gonna give it to her. Spencer, what are you doing here? I took a chance you’d be here. Is ava around? No. But I could get her here. In minutes. Or the police. Please don’t do that — either call. Haven’t seen you since you were arrested. A lot’s happened since then. Joss told me dr. Collins paid for your bail. She also said that cam got you a job at kelly’S. Isn’t this your first day?

[ Chuckles ] Yeah, it was. What happened? I burned myself trying to pull an espresso shot. Hm. At least that’ll heal. Spencer, if you have troubles, you have a girlfriend. Talk to esme. She’s busy. She started her internship at spring ridge. Besides, you’re really the person I wanted to talk to. Why? Because. I needed a friend. A real friend. I think that you and i define the word “friend” very differently. Okay. I know that you guys are more spence’s friends than mine, and I realize we’ve had some differences, but at the end of the day, like at spence’s arraignment, we’re on the same page. Now he’s free on bail, and thanks to his good friend cam, he has his first real job. What did I miss? And, um, where’s spence? Well, your guess is as good as ours. You mean he’s not here? Mnh-mnh. Yeah, he actually walked out without saying goodbye. I had to cover for him. Spence quit? And he didn’t even tell you? I’M…so sorry, cam. Chalk it up to that dysfunctional family of his. Spence’s dad and ava showed up here and expected spence to wait on him. I mean, he hadn’t even figured out the ropes of how to do his job well yet, and he was embarrassed. He didn’t say anything, but I knew it really upset him. Josslyn: Yeah. No matter how hard spencer tries, he just can’t escape the influence of the cassadines. I swear to you, mother. I didn’t mean to hurt you. Didn’t you, britta? If you wanted me dead… you made your point!

[ Laughs ] Ohh! Stop. This is not a time for mom jokes, okay? Lie still. I need to examine you. Okay. Thankfully, the spear only pierced your side. It missed all your vital organs. There are some people who would say I have no heart to hit. But they’re wrong. Because if I die… I want it to be in your arms. Listen to me. You’re not gonna die. Okay? [ Grunts ]

She just threw acid on my hand and left right before you got here.

[ Radio crackles ] Guard: Mr. August.

[ Sighs ] This’ll have to do for now.

[ Groans ] Where is he? “He” who? You don’t think I infiltrated cassadine island alone, do you? Jason morg an came with me.He’s gone searching for you. Ahh! I knew it! Jason came to his senses, jilted carly, and came running to your side. Congratulations on your victory, tochter. Do you remember why hayden first came to port charles? When drew cain was struggling with memory issues, ric lansing hired her to come to town and claim to be his wife. Yeah, so what? T-that entitles you to have her killed? All right. Obviously, you were monitoring my conversation with my son tonight.

[ Sighs ] So what? There was no confession. There’s no proverbial smoking gun. I mean, the police haven’t shown interest in this case for years. All my lawyers have to dois remind the court that these claims are being brought by a former hitman for the mob. You’ll be laughed out of court. You’ve got nothing. But you are no innocent, nikolas. Everyone knows you’re shady and can’t be trusted. And somehow hayden is more trustworthy? Why do you keep talking about her like she’s mother teresa?! Hayden barnes is a grifter. Look, hayden may not be a saint, but she’s still a human being who was shot. And she still deserves justice. You think you are on some noble mission. But the truth is… hayden already knows. Hayden has always known. I hear the tone of your voice, and you sound sincere, but there are alarm bells going off in my head telling me to run, not walk, to the nearest exit. I’d never hurt you, trina, and I’m really sorry about what I did to ava, but I did it all for my father because I truly believed that ava was bad for him and I wanted to free him of her influence. I knew that the stalking was wrong, that it was a risk if I got caught, but I thought he was worth it. And now I realize that my father’s not the man that I thought that he was. It’s almost like I never knew him at all.

[ Cellphone rings ] It’s joss.

[ Ringing stops ] Why didn’t you answer? I see how badly you’re hurting. And I want to believe you. But part of me can’t help asking… is this another one of your lies? Hey, trina. It’s me. I was just wondering if you’d seen spencer tonight. Just text me back. If trina had helped to convince ava to drop the charges, we wouldn’t be in this mess. No. No. Your boyfriend got himself into this mess the day he decided to stalk his stepmother. Now he left me shorthanded. I have to cover his shift when I got plenty of homework that needs doing. Typical spencer. Thinks of no one but himself. Cameron, wait. I understand that spence let you down, but you guys have to understand that this is all new to him.

[ Scoffs ] I mean, he’s never had a job before, much less one waiting tables. He’s not used to those kinds of responsibilities. Spence is spoiled. He’s an only child. He’s never had a mother. And he’s facing criminal charges. Spencer’s been c harged withsomething he actually did, and kevin bailed him out. He’s not even on house arrest. So, please. But… I know. He feels isolated and all alone. He needs to be around people he cares about who also care for him. So I was thinking if we could just get him out of port charles, just for a day or so.

[ Scoffs ] What? Like a road trip? Cam! What a great idea! The four of us on our own. What better way for us to bond? Can we wait until we’re off this godforsaken island before we discuss my love life, which, for the record, is nonexistent? So you’re not back together with jason? We came here to rescue you. Isn’t that enough? No! If the man is willing to risk life and limb to help you rescue me, when he despises me for past transgressions, that should indicate

some interest on his part. No. Mother, he didn’t jilt carly, okay? He married her, and they would still be on their honeymoon if sonny hadn’t come back. Carly’s husband returned? Yeah. Yes.

[ Groans ] And the marriage is invalid. So jason was free to help me rescue you. Which is nice. I’ll give you that. But he’s a nice guy. He’s a lethal killer. Who really, really wants peter dead, so we are collaborating. There is nothing romantic. Are you certain? Did you miss the part where jason was fully prepared to marry someone else?! He chose carly. He will always choose carly. But her husband is back. That doesn’t matter. She will always come first in jason’s life, and I refuse to come second. Good for you, tochter. Demand the respect you are due and stick to your guns, no matter how tempted you may be to relent. I am not tempted! Yet. But danger and gratitude are powerful aphrodisiacs. And if jason succeeds in delivering us from this wretched island… you may find yourself wavering.

[ Chuckles, groans ]

Nd your, um,disappointment in your nephew, but in all fairness, nikolas is the same person who defied cyrus and made sure that you were safe in pentonville. I know firsthand what it’s like to go up against cyrus renault, and your nephew had to be very brave to do that. Well, he’s a very complicated guy. With one hand, he takes what he wants for himself, and with the other hand, he offers me something no one else can. How so? He’s friends with the governor and can arrange to give me a full pardon. You can go free? All I have to do is say yes. You make it sound like it’s a problem. What’s stopping you? Hayden t old me she had hersuspicions, but she didn’t say. That was five years ago. You’re a little behind the times. So, listen to me. Hayden knew, and hayden being hayden, she used it to her advantage. Or did no one tell you? She and I came back to port charles together to reclaim the cassadine estate from valentin and return it to me. I knew hayden was working with you. I assumed because she didn’t know you already tried to kill her once. Oh, hayden stood to profit from my return. She was willing to let bygones be bygones in order to line her own pocket. So, if you thought you were doing right by hayden, I’m sorry, shawn. She’s over it. I can’t help you. But… if this is about you moving forward, putting the past behind, then you’ve come to the right man. Spencer: I guess I deserve your suspicion, but I swear to you, I’m not lying. And I know this is true because your nose isn’t growing? Because you know me. I thought I knew victor. But he turned out to be a fake and a fraud. He used me. Used our friendship to do something cruel to someone who’s been nothing but kind to me. Ava is not who you think. Someday you’ll learn the truth about her. Just like I learned the truth about you? I’m sorry, spencer, but if you thought you’d find a shoulder to cry on, you came to the wrong place. I just don’t trust you. Any more than I trust my own feelings about you. There are all kinds of cool cabins to rent on this website, you know, where they look rustic but have all the major conveniences. Here’s one with a fireplace in every room with a california-king-size bed. It’s perfect. Spence and I could stay in one cabin, and the two of you can stay in another. Uh, that sounds really nice, but I can’t really afford to take any time off of work, so… was it something I said? No. He has work obligations, and I’m going to the library. I’m not trying to be nosy, but how long have you guys been dating? And you still haven’t had sex yet? Don’t worry, things didn’t happen overnight for spence and me, either. For all his sophistication, spence was really shy and inexperienced. But we figured it out. You and cam will, too. I don’t care what you and spencer do or don’t do when you’re alone. And you don’t know anything about cam and me. You don’t have to be uptight around me. I would never judge my friends.

[ Scoffs ] Except we’re not friends. And you know that. Get inside. You’re the boss. Nice of you to join us. Say hello to your brother.

Can’t reveal thedetails of what nikolas wants in exchange for my release. It’s complicated. Because he wants something in exchange? I mean, isn’t that — isn’t that how the world works? Wow. I thought i was cynical. No. No, not cynical. Just realistic. Once you’ve survived the likes of shiloh and cyrus, you just kind of tend to put aside the rose-colored glasses. I stopped holding out hope for goodness and virtue to triumph because, in my experience, they, uh, they rarely do. So what are you waiting for? You’re sober. You’re making it up to the people that you hurt. There’s no reason for you not to take your nephew’s offer, unless… unless what? Unless you’d rather stay here. You didn’t go straight to the cops with this theory, which tells me you know your case is weak. Hey, there’s no shame in that. You took your best shot. Now it’s time to bargain. So put your cards on the table. There must be something you want. All the time you stole from me… …no amount of money can buy that. I understand why you feel that way. And I hope you feel better now that you got that off your chest. But let’s get real. I can’t give you the time back. Hayden’s over the situation. So instead of focusing on the time that you lost with T.J., Focus on enjoying the time with him now. I’m opening negotiations. Name a figure that would enable you to leave the past in the past and allow us to both move on. Then you haven’t given up on me. I didn’t make you hate me? I don’t hate you. I just can’t let myself believe in you or anything you say. I know that I need to win back your trust. I-I didn’t come here tonight for you to hold my hand and say, “there, there.” Really? Because it seems like that’s what you wanted. I wanted someone to be honest with me, to talk to me the way that nobody had ever talked to me until I met you, trina. Place is a hell of a lotbetter than pentonville. We both know that. But why the hell would anyone want to stay here if they didn’t have to? Lots of reasons. Because you’re safe here, because almost every decision is made for you, because you know who you are in here.

[ Chuckles ] You’re pretty good. Yeah, I know what to expect here. Every day when I wake up, I know what chores I-I’ll do. I know that drinking won’t be an option. And, you know, when I leave here, it’ll be totally unknown. Because I won’t have a job to go to or a special someone to go home to. I should have a lot of free time on my hands. You know, and there will be a lot of alcohol everywhere, you know, in every bar, in every restaurant, or I can just order it and have it delivered at home, like I used to. You know, it’s okay to be scared of life on the outside. There’s a whole lot of unknowns, to worry that maybe you haven’t actually hit your rock bottom.

[ Laughs ] Oh. I used to pride myself on having my own mind and making my own decisions, and now I’m terrified

[Laughs] Of my decisions.

[ Sighs ] And all the temptations that I don’t have access to here I’ll — I will have access to when I’m — I’m — I’m out there. So, you know, it’s easy to be strong when you don’t have the option to be weak. Yeah. So what are you gonna do? Are you just gonna stay in here, hiding? You know, life is — it’s full of prisons, and I’m not talking about this one, with the locks on the doors, with the fence around the perimeter. I’m talking about the prisons that we create for ourselves in our own minds. Trust me, I’ve been there.

[ Sighs ] So before you — you turn down an offer to go free, you got to ask yourself something. “Can I do more good in here or out there in the world?” There’s no price tag on the years you spent in prison. But like I said, this isn’t about your past. It’s about your future. My opening offer is $500,000. Nah. I’m not like you, nikolas. People aren’t a commodity to me. Without a confession, you have nothing. Without hayden, you have less than nothing. Yeah. You made sure of that, I know. Hayden’s gone. She chose to leave her old life behind. Now it’s your turn. You need a new life. That costs money. I can make that happen. Spencer: Help me out, trina. Tell me what I can do to repair things. I can’t tell you what to do, but what I do know is you need to stop looking at other people to define you. Isn’t that what you were doing with your dad? Isn’t that what you’re doing with — with your girlfriend? I just want you to respect me. I want you to be proud to be my friend. I really value your opinion, trina. You want to earn my respect? It’s not gonna happen overnight. It starts by honoring your commitments. Go back to that job you hate. Stick with it and learn to do it well. And maybe you’ll become someone your friends can count on. And maybe that starts by choosing better people to associate with. Trina, what if I can’t escape it? What if, no matter how hard I try, I turn into my father? That’s B.S., And you know it. I don’t believe in fate or destiny. Those are just excuses for laziness or selfishness. You don’t want to turn out like your father? Then don’T. This is on you, spencer. Just you.

[ Sighs ] I wish things didn’t have to be like this with us, but it is what it is. Sorry I tried to have an adult conversation with you. I won’t make that mistake again. All righty. Kitchen crisis handled. What did I miss? No one important. Kill him, jason. Kill him! Your brother has that navy seal training — take no prisoners. Listen, don’t worry about me, okay? [ Sighs ] Can we talk about anything else? Cam, I am really sorry about taking off before. Something came up. It was a family emergency. I am so sorry. And that justifies you walking off the job? [ Cellphone rings ] Joss, what’s up? Hi. What are you doing tonight? I’m supposed to be working on a project, but I had an unexpected visitor. Huh. Let me guess — it was spencer. Yep. Are you okay? I’ll live. You? Well, I just had a run-in with esme. She’s a piece of work. Sounds like we both need to talk. Meet you at kelly’s? No. Cam’s not done working. I’ll come to you. Spencer: You want to fire me? Go ahead. But let me make this clear — I didn’t quit. I had a family emergency with my father. Was he hurt? No, it wasn’t that kind of emergency. I had something really important to ask him. And the way that he answered told me everything, and I’m done with him. So I came back here because I really need this stupid job. And I’m not saying that I like it, but I need it. And I think that I really could have been good at this job, but I guess now we’ll never know. Spencer, wait. Take it. Now get back to work. This offer is good for a limited time. You’ll never get a better one, not from the pcpd or the da’s office, that’s for sure. Definitely not from hayden. So, what do you say? Can you leave the past behind to invest in your future? Hey, I get why this is difficult for you. You know, once you leave these locked doors, there’s a whole bunch of unknowns out there, as well as all the people that have disappointed you. Not to mention all the times and ways that I’ve disappointed myself. Mm-hmm. Yeah. You have any idea what you’re gonna do? Well, I know what I’m not gonna do. I’m not going against my conscience to gain my freedom. I don’t want any part of my nephew or his dirty offer. Come on, jason, you’re an excellent shot. You can take out drew right now and leave britt unharmed, just like you shot my father when he took carly hostage. Your only other alternative is to kill me and hope drew doesn’t hurt britt. I’m okay with that, jason. I’ll take my chances. Just kill this bastard! No, britta! Drew will kill her, jason. It’s his mission. If you don’t believe me, ask liesl. Peter’s right. While the conditioning is active, nothing will stop drew from completing whatever mission he’s given. So there you have it. It all boils down to one simple question, jason — do you want your brother’s blood on your hands?

[ Gun thuds ]

[ Laughs ] Take it.

[ Grunts ] I just saved your life, sis. If you had tried to shoot me, drew would have killed you and jason for trying to save you in the meantime. So now look at it this way — we all get to live a little bit longer… for now.

romance and then here in my restaurant today. And then I had what seems like a million hotel distractions to deal with. But now, you — you, my amazing husband, you get my undivided attention. Uh, there’s a call I think you should know about. Okay, a call from who? Cyrus renault. He wants me to visit him in prison. Hey, sonny, carly. Hey. Oh, hey. I cannot believe you are alive. Good to see you. Great to see you. So, you guys just got back? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, we just, uh, got back last night. Oh, you were… traveling together?

[ Sighs ] Yes. Oh.

[ Sighs ] Thanks for doing this, spinelli. Oh, uh, your assistance with jason’s escape was greatly appreciated, so I’m happy to return the favor. Um, any success in sowing seeds of doubt in young spencer’s mind? I’m not sure. Spencer was noncommittal. If anything, he was defensive on his father’s behalf. Okay, w-well, I’ve — I’ve tracked nikolas to the pier, and I’m using a-a directional mic, so it should pick up any conversation there. Yeah. I just hope what I told spencer encourages him to talk to his dad and ask the big questions. Eureka. Spencer’s with his father now. Good. Okay. Why do you want to talk about hayden? She left port charles almost two years ago. And years before that, she was my stepmother. She was clueless about how to handle children, and that endeared her to me a great deal. There was a food fight, and hayden got caught in the crossfire. Why are you bringing that up? That’s ancient history. The bottom line is, is that I liked hayden a hell of a lot more than I like ava. And to this day, I still have no idea, after all these years, why anyone would want hayden dead. Well, if you wanted to get my attention, you’ve certainly gotten it. Can you get this bear out of my face? Oh, I thought it would make you smile, but have it your way. You said you had knowledge of something. I certainly do. And does this knowledge concern me? Only in the most important way. Austin, did — did you just say that gladys is heading to visit valentin? I sure did. Is that a problem for you, brook lynn? Brook lynn, what is going on? Is everything okay? No. What was that all about?

[ Obrecht grunts quietly ] Ohh.

[ Sighs ] Are you feeling better, liesl? I’ll feel better when you’re dead.

Whatever do you mean, darling? It’s clear that you know more about your uncle victor than you’re letting on. If I could see that, then so could anna. So I — I must ask. Whatever this is, is it gonna come back to bite us? Nah, if victor had given me up, I’d be in custody undergoing f-formal questioning right now. If victor had given you up? For what?!

[ Sighs ] When valentin shot me and he almost killed me… yes, I remember very well. I was there. …Victor found me and he nursed me back to health. Why did he want in return, then, for saving your life? We struck a deal. I kept his anonymity. He kept mine. And I promised once I reclaimed the cassadine estate from valentin… that I would give him a home base and I would continue to keep his secret. And what does this have to do with peter? How deep are you in with him? I had no clue that victor was up to anything with peter. And can you trust that your uncle will keep you out of it? I think so. Yeah, my — my uncle’s an opportunist. He needs me where I am. Unless he’s found a way to leverage you for his own freedom. Because you know as well as I do… betrayal comes most often from those closest to us. When you say that my father was responsible for hayden’s shooting, what do you mean? Are you saying that he shot her? No. No. We believe he hired someone to do the job for him.

[ Chuckles ] Yeah. That, too. And look how she repaid you — insulting everybody, helping herself to the corporate card. Gladys honestly thought that she had brook lynn’s blessing somehow. How? I mean, I don’t know brook lynn that well, but, I mean, she doesn’t seem like the type that’s gonna treat my mother to a spa day. She isn’T. Which is why I need to get to the bottom of this. Or you could just fire her. I mean, obviously, it’s not working out. Let me talk to maxie and brook lynn and figure out what’s going on. As for gladys, she still has a job. For now. That charmaine of yours is a real beauty. Charlotte.

[ Chuckling ] Oh, right. Like the web. Like the web. Oh. Both of my daughters are rare beauties. I’m sure. And, um, where is that precious bundle of brook lynn’s? At home. Yeah. [ Giggles, sighs ] I don’t want to be rude, but I really should rest now. Of course. You poor thing. You must be exhausted.

[ Breathes deeply ] So…did you know I work for brook lynn? I know brook lynn is not your favorite person right now, and I can sympathize. There was a time when she and I hated each other. What changed? ‘Cause she’s still superficial and caustic and entitled and opportunistic. All I can say is she and I have been through a lot together, and I can’t just forget the good things. Well, I can’t forget the promise that I made to my father.

[ Groans ] Have you at least been reinstated? I got an informal notice that brook lynn has issued a retraction, but I’m still waiting for them to make it official so that I can see my patients again. Okay. Well, that’s good. That means this whole thing is effectively over.

[ Chuckles ] No. It’s just not over.

[ Sighs ] Not by a long shot.

S a difficult subject,and I’m only asking for violet. She wants to see the picture again. She’s asked a couple times where the photo of her grandpa jeff is, and I looked, but I — I couldn’t find it. Do you maybe know what happened to it? I have no idea. I have an idea or two about how to reach gladys. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hey, hey. Are you — are you sure? I mean, ’cause my mother — you know how she is. The more someone tries to manage her, the more she doubles down on causing trouble. Brando, I’ve got this. You can leave gladys to me. I’ve been calling you and texting you since last night! Why haven’t you gotten back to me?! Something is wrong with my phone. I wasn’t receiving any texts or phone calls, and they suddenly just came in a few minutes ago. Okay. What is going on? We need to talk. You know, before you two have this little tte–tte, mrs. Quartermaine, I have done everything that you have asked me to do, and yet somehow, miraculously, I have not been officially cleared to see my patients. That sounds like a “you” problem. But the problem is for my patients because I don’t get to see them. I did my part. I’m sorry if the administrative wheels of this hospital grind slowly. Now, I am sorry, but I have bigger fish to fry. Like valentin?

[ Sighs ] Like my assistant. Something has to be done about gladys. Oh, I caught her using your corporate card and I had to order her to go back to work. Are you two talking about gladys corbin? How do you know gladys? Oh, well, I don’t know her well. I mean, we just met. But she was looking for valentin. Yeah, I’m brook lynn’s assistant, but I’m treated much more like an indentured servant. I mean, I don’t understand how a classy guy like you got mixed up with a bossy bridge-and-tunnel princess like that. Gladys, why are you here? I mean, you were so understanding the few times we kept each other company. You listened. You accepted me for who I am. And do you know what that is? A force of nature?

[ Chuckles ] Not what I was gonna say, but I like that even better. Now, let me tell you, val. It’s okay to call you “val,” right?

[ Brea thes sharply ] If knowledge is power… then anyone who crosses me better take cover. Ava: Oh, anna! Oh. Hi. I thought you two had left. Yeah. I-I’m on my way out. I, um — I just wanted to reiterate to you that if you need anything from me or from nikolas, just let us know, okay? Peter’s reign of terror has to end. Oh, yeah. I couldn’t agree more. It was nice to see you with nikolas, together. I’m so glad that whole stalker nightmare is over for you. Hm. [ Chuckles ] Spencer is facing the music, and nikolas and I are ready for our happily ever after. I certainly hope that’s the case.

[ Chuckling ] It sounds like — do you — do you have doubts or…? I-I just — I’m not sure if — if it’s even possible, a “happily ever after” with a cassadine. You picked up his tail? Great. I’m on my way.

[ Both chuckle ] Sorry.

[ Chuckles ] Morning. Hi. So, it’s, uh, re-negotiation time for the broadcast station retransmission fees, and it always goes down to the wire. So, uh, what’s your day looking like? Oh, same old, same old. Nothing as important or powerful as yours. You, uh — you were pretty quiet last night. You didn’t say a word before we went to bed. I’ve got a lot on my mind. Does any of it have to do with what happened to nina? Well, that was fast.

[ Sighs ] An overnight extradition to pennsylvania, and now here you are. You’re back, looking no worse for the wear. Well, looks can be deceiving. I’m exhausted.

[ Sighs ] Gutsy move, you know, showing your face here. Well, I can’t very well stay away from my own business. I thought I would just get a quick caffeine fix and then head in the office and see how many fires my arrest caused. Hmm. I’m so impressed that scott’s strategy worked, that they let you leave the state, although I did tell you that he can be fiendishly clever. Yes, you did tell me that, and I’m impressed, too. All I had to do was give them my passport. I’d say you got off pretty easy. Oh, ava, far from it. Sonny: Okay, here we go, darling. Cinnamon pancakes as you love cinnamon pancakes, right? Yes. Alright. You can put a little syrup, but don’t put too much, because lookit. Kristina’s taking you and donna out for trick-or-treating tonight, right? You’re gonna get a little sugar rush. [ Carly laughs ]

[ Molly clears throat ] Be right with you. Now, is that any way to talk to a customer? Can we get some service, or am I gonna have to speak to a manager? Molly!

[ Both laugh ] Hi. Hi. So good to see you. Alexis. Hey. I came as soon as I could. Is everything okay? I need to talk to you. I have some news for you, too, but you go first. What’s this about? Hayden barnes.

Well, dad, thank you for breakfast, and I hate to eat and run, but I have to meet trina at kelly’s for a study session. Wait, don’t the two of you live together? And since when did kelly’s become a study hall? Oh, cameron — cameron works there. That’s right. I forgot. Dad, please. A ton of people study at kelly’S. And change is good. We both have a very big exam next week. Mm-hmm. Getting an early start, huh? And I do mean early. Have you forgotten what halloween is like in college? We need our evenings free. Have you forgotten that I went to university in australia, and, um, halloween was considered an american influence that our culture was trying to battle? Oh, yet here you are, a venture capitalist having drip coffee with your american daughter. So I wonder who won that battle. Touché. You know, I’m glad that you’re not letting this whole thing with your mom and sonny get to you, especially after everything that went down last night. Well, I learned to compartmentalize early. I wasn’t gonna bring it up, but since you did, how are you doing with everything? I mean, I think nina got what she deserved, but…still, watching her be arrested last night, it must have been hard on you. So, have you heard anything more from the corinthos clan? I cannot believe that sonny stood by and let michael do that to you. I’m tempted to go and tell him what he can do with his offer to buy charlie’S. I’ll tell you that. Hey, hey. That is not necessary, but I appreciate the support. You let sonny buy charlie’s, okay? I have no choice but to let this play out.

[ Sighs ] Well, so much for our hope that the two of you could learn to coexist in peace. Willow: Having nina extradited to pennsylvania is part of it, but mostly, it’s about our breakdown in communication. B-breakdown in communication? That’s a — that’s a pretty big statement, don’t you think?

[ Sighs ] I just mean I thought we had a good talk the other night about nina. I went away thinking we were on the same page, but clearly, we’re not. Okay, well, we — we agreed not to do anything about nina and wiley while tensions were high, so I didn’T. You convinced the D.A. Of llantano county to have nina arrested. Wait, hold on a second. I’m — I’m confused here. Didn’t — didn’t you agree that what nina did was wrong? Yes! 100%! Especially after you told me the confusion it’s caused for avery and donna. I’m not opposed to pursuing legal action against nina. If that’s what the family decides, I’d support it. So…what’s the problem? The problem is you weren’t honest with me, michael. I’m sorry if I startled you. I’m just as bad as those kids who walk and text or — or tweet. I’m sorry.

[ Chuckles ] It’s quite — quite alright. Uh, I suppose I’m a little jumpy, in the spirit of the holiday.

[ Laughs ] Right. Is that a map you have? Yes, it is. Mm.

[ Chuckles ] In fact, I probably look like one of those throwback tourists, don’t I?

[ Both laugh ] Maybe I could pretend this is my costume in, uh, what did you say — in the spirit of the holiday.

[ Chuckles ] Are you from, uh, out of town? Yeah, yeah. I’m just, uh — just checking up on family. You know, I was looking for the chuck. Is it nearby? It is, actually, but I happen to know that it’s closed today. Oh. I’m a member, so… wow.Are you an art lover? Yes. Yes, I am. Mm. And, you know, in fact, I appreciate all forms of art. I just read about a relatively new music venue. It’s called the — the — what —

[ Snaps fingers ] The savoy. Do you know it? You lost someone? I’m sorry. That’s got to be hard. Terrible choice of words. I meant that guy that vanished from the exam room the other night. So, I asked around the hospital. The volunteer meeting he said he was there for wasn’t real. I think I spooked him when I asked him to provide identification. I think I freaked him out. Tj, no, man, look. There could have been a number of reasons why he took off. Hell, I don’t know. Maybe he was undocumented, or maybe he was just trying to get a prescription for some drugs. Yeah, I-I thought about that, but it just — it wasn’t the vibe I got. Something about that encounter felt almost personal.

[ Sighs ] That’s because you’re an empathetic doctor. It is your superpower.

[ Sighs ] No, I’m serious, man. So, on the positive side — thank you. Yeah. On the positive side, you get two days off to just let it go. And, uh, correct me if I’m wrong, but two consecutive days off, that’s like luxury for a first-year intern, right? Oh, it definitely is. And I do plan to live my best life. As a matter of fact, what are you doing tonight and tomorrow?

[ Laughs ] Tj. Uh, you’re off. I’m not. But forget about me. What about molly? I’m sure she would appreciate seeing more of you now that you have time off. Molly’s fine. She’s catching up with shawn right now. Shawn. Huh, okay. So is that what all this was about? Oh, my gosh. It’s been too long. I know. Well, hey, you are the one who’s been in town for months and didn’t bother reaching out to your cousin. Well, molly, they have this new thing. It’s called texting, and it totally works both ways. Wow. Okay, true. I’ve been super busy. From what I’ve heard, you have, too. Guess we’ll leave it at that. You remember shawn butler? Of course. Of course. Hey, how are ya? I’m well. And look at you, all grown up. Yeah. And a working man, I see. Yeah, you know, I’ve come a long way from the son who could get his father to do anything for him. Um, god, it’s been years since I’ve seen you. I — you know, I’ve been away, and you’ve been away. Yeah. Well, you know what I mean. I’m — we’re both back now, so that’s good. From what I’ve heard, you should be focused on your own legal issues. Right. You’re at the D.A.’S office. Yes. And I have had to recuse myself from your case. Gotcha. Well, no hard feelings. Oh, duty calls. Alright, guys. Hey, uh, go grab a seat, and, uh, I’ll be right over, okay? Okay. Thank you. Okay, cool. Yeah, no problem. Hayden barnes? I-I know you and shawn were looking into what happened to her, but why do you think I can help? You and I are close, right? And — and despite the last few years, I am hopeful that the nikolas that I love and that I trust and know is still operating in there somewhere. So I need you to tell me the truth. No lying, no dodging. Just be honest with me. Think long and hard before you go any further with this. True or false. You hired the hit man that shot hayden barnes.

I had a feeling this is where you were going, especially after that tense moment with shawn the other day. I hoped that I was wrong, that it was all in my head. But here we are. That’s not a denial, nikolas. Yeah, and it’s not an admission, either. And I’m insulted that you would think so little of me. That’s even less of a denial. I’ve known you since you were born. I know you better than almost anybody. And I said to myself, if I look you in the eye, I will know if you are telling me the truth. Please tell me that you did not allow a man to be locked up for six years of his life for a crime that you committed. Hope you don’t mind I roped you into breakfast. Oh, not a bit. I barely see you and tj at home. I enjoy spending time with my daughter-in-law of sorts. Now, that an okay term to use for domestic partners? Oh, sure. Yeah, especially the “in-law” part. Hey, say it with pride — assistant district attorney.

[ Chuckles ] Yeah. It’s a far cry from writing romance novels. Hey, don’t knock it. Hey, “love in maine” had chops. Now, I guess I can admit it to you now, but the notes you used to ask tj for were actually suggestions from me. Wha– he let you read my manuscript early? Ah, I used to volunteer writing articles for the armed forces newsletter. Now, I thought I was trying to help, but you didn’t need it. I mean, one read, and I found out we had a prodigy on our hands. A future best-selling author. Oh, that’s sweet. I mean, as much as I loved writing, I ended up finding a new way of expressing myself — trying to improve the justice system from the inside. But, you know, I am not the only one with, um, an appreciation for righteousness, am I? Aren’t you looking to make a difference, too? Michael: How was I dishonest? You agreed not to challenge nina about visiting wiley, because the whole time, you knew you were going to get the llantano D.A. To file criminal charges against her.

[ Sighs ] One has nothing to do with the other. No, willow, willow, the whole — the whole point of — of charging nina with identity fraud was — was so that it wouldn’t involve wiley. It solely has to do with what she did to my father. Okay, this is what I mean by dishonesty. Yeah, I’m sure you’re right about the legal tactic. But I’m also sure that you didn’t loop me in because you thought I wouldn’t approve. You didn’t ask me or the rest of the family. You took it on yourself to deal with nina, and you handled it. You’re right. I did. Sonny: What? What’d I tell you?

[ Carly laughs ] You got a lot of candy ahead of you, girl.

[ Both laugh ] But mama carly said I can’t have it until tomorrow. No, that’s not true. You can have a piece for how old you are, so you get six pieces. There you go. But the kit kats always disappear. Huh. I know where the kit kats go. You know what? Halloween is a magical night. Who knows where the kit kats go? It’s kind of like the socks in the laundry.

[ Chuckles ] So, you’re in a good mood, huh? Yeah. Well, it’s halloween. Right. And thanks to michael, I don’t have to run into nina at every turn. I accepted sonny’s offer before his family had you arrested. I’d be happy to hear a counteroffer. Oh, no, no. What’s done is done. Besides, I don’t want you turning the sale of charlie’s into a battleground. And you know what? If I want to make amends to phyllis, I can’t buy her forgiveness, can I? You cannot pay for absolution.

[ Sighs ] Oh, nina, take it easy on yourself, okay? And remember that there are always plenty of people in this world who will give you hell for your mistakes. I’m not one of them, though. Jax: Nina?

Just came in to get a quick, uh, cup of coffee. Why are you here? You were arrested last night and extradited to pennsylvania. Yes, I was. I made bail, and I was allowed to come home until the trial. That’s it? You stole sonny’s life for nine months and took him away from his family, and you’re finally arrested, but you don’t even have to spend the night in jail. Didn’t you say you had some studying to do with trina? And then you show up at my mother’s hotel acting like nothing’s happened? Joss. Fine. Um, jax, you don’t have to feel like you have to protect me from your daughter. She’s made it crystal-clear how she feels about me. Well, she’s her mother’s daughter. Yeah, she is. What can I say? Yeah. You know I can take it from carly. But josslyn, she broke my heart. I’m sorry. You know, we haven’t talked since the night of the fire, and we couldn’t really talk in the hearing room. Well, I’ve been keeping my distance, you know, especially since I figured out that you were keeping your, uh, true relationship with “mike” or sonny a secret. Well, sonny is not the man that I fell in love with. And he’s not the man that fell in love with me. It’s like you were honoring the letter of our conversation, but not the spirit. Yeah, yeah. I know. I just, I — I realized that I-I was doing that while you were saying it, and, uh, yeah, that wasn’t right.

[ Sighs ] I-I’m not thrilled by your strategy. But I’ll admit it’s effective. The D.A. Obviously thinks he can win the case, and the fact is, nina did commit the crime. If you had told me from the start, I would have had your back. But you didn’t even give me the chance. You just made a preemptive decision and went around me. No, you’re right. You’re right. Everyt– everything you’re saying is valid, and, uh, I’m sorry. No, I think — I think, uh, the last few relationships I’ve been in have made me more, uh, guarded than I realized. I should have looped you in. But at the same time, willow, I-I stand behind my actions. Nina needs to be held accountable — not for anything to do with wiley, but because of what she did to my family. I thought I was your family, too. Portia: Ah, the savoy. Yes, that is great.

[ Both chuckle ]If I do say so myself, I feel a little bit responsible for it coming into being. Really?

[ Laughs ] The owner is — he’s a good friend. Wow. A good friend? Really? Uh-huh. Really? Wow. You know, tell me this. I read that the owner never ran a club before. Is that true? I don’t remember there being any profiles on curtis when the club opened. Uh, where’d you read that? Uh, somewhere online, maybe. I don’t know. You know how that goes. Anyway, I’m just curious what made him jump into the — I mean, the — the nightclub business? You seem more interested in the club owner than the venue.

[ Both laugh ] Me? Nah. Nah, I’m just a — I’m just a people person. Okay. Um…you know, it’s been so nice speaking with you, but I do have to get going. Oh, yeah. Yeah, of course. [ Laughs ] Yeah. Thank you. Uncle, it’s okay if you’re too busy to hang. No, it’s, um — it’s not that. But I have noticed that all this extra time that we’ve been spending together, as much as I love it, I notice that it all started when shawn got released, came back to town. I don’t see what one has to do with the other. Well, tj, um, for six years, it’s been you, me, and your mother, and we were a family. And now your biological father’s in the picture. And I’m okay with that. But you don’t have to demonstrate that our relationship is now different. I’m not insecure in any way about your relationship with your father. In fact, I think it’s important, so I encourage that. And I know you and me, we’re rock solid. Always have been and always will be. We’re family. Nothing’s ever, ever gonna change that. Come here. You’ve been living with tj and me at my mom’s house for a few months now, and I always hear you talking to tj about wanting to find out what your next step in life should be. But when you and I talk, it’s — it’s nonstop news and current events and social justice issues. I mean, it — it’s clear that you’re passionate about these things, right? Maybe there’s a path in the social sphere that you should explore, somewhere where you can raise awareness to the issues that you care about. Like what, a-a podcast?

[ Chuckles ] I have no idea how to pod or cast. And I doubt my criminal record would support any kind of bid to become a public official. Not until I clear my name, anyway. How’s that going? Actually, there is a new lead to follow, but… it could send me down a path that’ll start a lot of trouble. Well, hey, whatever you decide, I am behind you. I trust you. Hmm.

[ Quietly ] Shawn butler is far from an innocent man. At the end of the day, he showed up to that location to kill drew cain. Do you remember drew? He’s the father of your granddaughter, scout. It’s only thanks to bad luck and worse aim that drew wasn’t hit by shawn. The salient point is that shawn didn’t shoot hayden. A hit man did, or a hit woman. But only you would know that, right? Because you hired that person. You had hayden shot, didn’t you? Alexis, don’T. If you keep pulling this thread, you are gonna make helping you impossible, especially now that I have secured your release.

The governor and i have gotten quite close ever since I dated his daughter, and I wanted to play this card at just the right time. Right time presented itself last night at a fundraiser we both attended, and I spent most of the evening championing your cause with him. What a fortuitous coincidence. I don’t suppose that had anything to do with our conversation the other night, did it? I reminded him of your role in exposing the corrupt judge carson, and I suggested that the state… show its appreciation by offering you a pardon. It’s incredible, right? The governor plans to issue you a complete pardon for your attack on detective falconeri, which is a little dicey for him — you stabbing a cop and all. But the governor, he’s prepared to take the hit as a personal favor to me. It’s just… look, after our conversation about taking things slowly and that you’d be more comfortable with — with boundaries, I guess I just… look, we’re already living together. We were talking about life, family. Well, tj, you’ll find that working at the hospital, you’re gonna meet all kinds of people. He even asked a bunch of questions about you, uncle curtis. Me? Wait, w-what did this patient of yours look like? So nikolas wouldn’t even post bail? I thought he adored spencer and vice versa. Yeah, well, a lot has happened with those two since you’ve been around, starting with nikolas pretending to be dead for three years and ending with him marrying ava. Spencer feels ava double-crossed him when he was trying to get justice for nikolas, who, as it turned out, wasn’t actually dead. It’s a damn shame. Yeah, well, it all worked itself out. But the funny thing is, all spencer needs to do to make things right is apologize. I mean, like a real, sincere apology where he holds himself accountable. You know, nikolas has been so guilty about staying away, he would be putty in spencer’s hands. That easy, huh? Well, maybe that’s a slight exaggeration. But, yeah, I-I mean, it would be a good start. Nikolas has that cassadine ruthlessness and a seemingly cold heart. But that heart melts when it comes to his son. Spencer’s always been his achilles’ heel. So we have quid pro quo, huh, that if shawn and i drop the investigation and forget that you initiated that hit on hayden, then you will facilitate my pardon. My silence buys my freedom. I never said anything of the sort. Did you even think that I would be tempted by this blatant attempt at extortion? Again, I have no idea what you’re talking about. But for argument’s sake… I contend everyone has a price. So the question is, what’s yours? We may not be on the same page right now. But it doesn’t change how I feel about you. Well, he claimed that he was “touring” port charles, visiting places of interest, and he asked about the savoy. And of course, you know, I-I gave it a glowing review.

[ Chuckles ] But as the conversation went on, it became less and less about the club and more about you. So it struck me that this man fits the general description of tj’s patient that disappeared. So the same guy approached both you and tj,

[Sighs heavily] Asking questions about me. Sorry, I…

[ Laughs ] I know you ordered espresso, but I’m telling people that the machine is broken. ‘Cause…? Because I already scalded myself once, and I’m not going to risk further injury.

Acting like nothing happened after you watched my daughter die.

Just need to stay classic. Father and ava are here, pretending that they just wandered in. Kelly’s is close by the pier. Maybe they just got off the launch and decided to stop for breakfast. When the staff at wyndemere can make them anything they want? When they can afford the caviar omelette at the metro court? No, I don’t think so. They planned this. At least father seems like he cares a little bit. Ava is just enjoying my humiliation. Then forget her. Just focus on your father. Spence, this is the perfect opportunity to start mending fences. I mean, he’s obviously regretting what happened. Just give him a chance to take you back.

But I feel like I’m still learning how to trust you I wonder how spencer will take to the food service industry after being waited on all his life.

You, who’s so proud to be a mother, who uses it to justify everything that you do? Guess what, carly — I’m also a mother. Nelle was my child. Well, there’s no doubt about that. There’s not much of a physical resemblance, but it’s scary how much the two of you are alike. In her own mind, nelle was always the victim. Murder, extortion, switching her baby — none of that was ever her fault. Somebody else, usually me, was always to blame. You are to blame for letting her die, and you will always be to blame for that. So live with it. Oh, so to pay me back, you basically kidnap sonny? Because in your mind, you’re the victim. “Poor, poor nina. She shouldn’t have been arrested. That’s a vindictive attack.” You’re delusional. And you know what? That could work in your favor. Just plead insanity and be done with it. I love you, michael corinthos. I’m in love with you. Please tell me you know that. Yeah, I do. And I intend to spend the rest of my life with you, for better, for worse, in sickness and in health — all of it. Okay, then, why not make it official? Fine then, l-let’s say our vows. [Breathes deeply] She was…smart, so articulate. She’s a talented lawyer, but also a warm and caring aunt… …a voice of sanity in my insane family. Yeah. Well, that’s why you were going to talk to the governor about a pardon, right? Well, unfortunately, it may not work out. You know the conditions — for father to take me back, I have to accept his marriage to ava. I have to accept that woman as my stepmother. He’s already put her in control of my trust fund. I’ll have to grovel to her for every dime that I want to spend. I’m not going to do that, esme. Then — then you’re letting her win. Brick by brick, ava’s building a wall between you and your father. He called me — he came to see me at school, said that we could work together to get him free of ava. Now she’s turned him against me. She’s latched on to him, and she’s never going to let him go. Spence, it’s obvious that your father doesn’t want this separation. You’ve just got to give him room to change his mind. How? [ Scoffs ] Ava never leaves his side. I might be able to help with that. Ava: I can understand why the governor would be concerned about it — excuse me. I’m so sorry to interrupt. Ava, could I speak to you for a moment outside?

[ Sighs ] I can’t be certain if it was the same man. But did you get a bad vibe from him? He was perfectly pleasant. But there was something about him that did seem… just off. I don’t know. I don’t know. Maybe I’m making too big a deal out of this. No, no, no. Trust your instincts. People often get a bad feeling about someone presenting as ordinary and then tries to ultimately harm them. It’d be a mistake to ignore that feeling.

[ Sighs ] Well, in that case, I was walking outside kelly’s, and I thought I heard footsteps behind me. No one was there. And I turned around to keep going, and I walked right into this man. I was startled. He apologized. He had a map of port charles and asked me for directions to the chuck.

[ Breathes sharply ] And I told him that the chuck was closed today. And that’s when he brought up the savoy. See, I mentioned that I knew the owner, and he was all over it. He claimed that he read somewhere that you had never owned a club before. Where would he get that? Exactly. I don’t remember reading that in any promotional materials I read. And I asked him — I asked himabout his interest in you, but he just brushed it off and claimed he was a “people person”…

[ Sighs ] …Liked to talk to anybody. It seemed reasonable enough, so I excused myself and I left. But in retrospect… maybe it wasn’t so innocent. I agree. What are the odds that two men, same age, same description, would approach two very important people in my life, asking questions about me? Why the hell would I visit you? Well, a lot happened while you were away. I can fill in the blanks — details that your wife and mr. Morgan either weren’t privy to or — or chose not to tell you. Pass. Don’t be too hasty. Buscema and novak are gone, their territories are up for grabs — I might have information about who wants to take their place. You know what, cyrus? Enjoy flatland. Make yourself comfortable, ’cause, from what I hear… you’re going to spend the rest of your life there.

[ Chuckles ]

Nikolas is the one who had hayden shot. That’s your belief — he didn’t actually say the words. No, he didn’t actually say the words. I’ve known him his whole life, and it was very clear to me by what he didn’t say that he was the one who tried to have hayden killed. I’m sorry. You’re sorry? What are you sorry for? You’re the one who — who — who spent 6 years locked in a cage for something he did and you didn’T. I’m sorry for what this is costing you…

[ Sighs ] …For the pain I see in your eyes. I just thought he was better than that.

[ Sighs ] And he was. I’m telling you, he was. You know, up — up until just a few years ago, he wa– he was good. He was thoughtful. He was noble and empathetic. And that is all gone now. He is self-serving. He doesn’t even care about his own son. And he uses people. He used — used you. Oh, he can show remorse if you confront him. But it’s just a show. He doesn’t mean it. He’s gone bad, I’m telling you, and he will take no responsibility for anything that he’s done. None.

You open your own doors may I take your order? What are your specials? I don’t remember, and you don’t care, so just order eggs florentine like always. You won’t get many tips with that attitude. I wasn’t counting on one from you, anyway. You know, we still haven’t got our coffee. Right, I’ll get on that. Spencer… what are you doing? Did you not just nag me for coffee? You know that’s not what I mean. Actually, father, I have no idea what you “mean.” I’ve lost any ability that I ever had to read you or understand your motives. You are working at a diner, awaiting trial for criminal charges. This is not the life you were meant to have. Thanks to you and your wife, it is the life that I have now.

Nobody ever asks you why or for… when we saw each other at the courthouse, I was so focused on helping spence, so worried how the hearing would go, that… I didn’t get the chance to properly express

[Voice breaking] How truly sorry I am for my part in what happened to you. “What happened” is that I was stalked and terrorized to the point of filing for divorce and distancing myself from my only surviving child. What spence did was horribly wrong. And instead of helping him, I should have tried to talk him out of it. Why didn’t you? I can’t imagine my life without you, michael. When I tried, even on a temporary basis, it was a disaster. I don’t just love you, I need and depend on you as my best friend, someone I can confide in and trust. And you can always trust me. I know. But I’ve also realized that you don’t always do things for one reason. Remember when shiloh took me to court to try and force me to disclose what happened to my baby? You were so smart about all of that. You blew me away, running through tactics and potential strategies. It was the same way when we were fighting for custody of wiley. It’s — it’s crazy how your mind works, michael. How you can set up the dominoes to fall the way you want. Which is a nice way of saying I’m calculating. No, michael.

[ Breathes sharply ] It’s not a bad thing. It’s amazing. But it shouldn’t be the reason you proposed. Willow.

[ Breathes sharply ] Look, I hate that we argued, and I do want to make it better, but that — that’s not the reason I asked you to marry me. Could this mystery man, if it is the same man, be someone that you investigated when you were a cop? Someone that you put away? If so, why come looking for me now? I’m sorry. Portia? Hi. Welcome back. Thank you, man. How are you? Good. Trina told me that you were home. Yeah, it’s, uh — it’s been a real adjustment. I’m sure. And — and I heard josslyn — well, josslyn told me that she’s doing great in pcu? Yeah, yeah. Her and trina are really embracing the college experience.

[ Chuckles ] Yeah, I’m happy for them. Yeah. It’s a great time in their lives. Um, curtis, you got a minute to talk about cyrus renault? I won’t have to use the insanity defense. Well, you’re going to need something because the charges are not going away.

[ Scoffs ] This is laughable coming from you. Oh, yeah, you’re really happy to skate when the handcuffs are on you, carly. You know, hiding behind your high-powered attorney, letting her pretzel the law. But when I post legitimate bail, here you are — you’re outraged and you’re screaming for justice. I don’t have to scream. Justice is coming for you. Oh — yeah, you’re gonna be tried and convicted because there’s no excuse for what you did. I think my attorney can make a damn good argument that I was actually protecting sonny. That his life in port charles was dangerous and destructive, and that sonny was actually better off living in nixon falls.

You have to admit the timing is a little suspect. A little. And maybe our disagreement didn’t cause you to propose, but it might have

contributed to it. Maybe. Because you are — you’re a fixer, michael. Your first instinct will always be to try to make things better, and I love that about you. You came into my life, you — you gave me your support, you shared your son with me, and you didn’t try to fix me, but you made it possible for me to fix myself. And now that we’ve disagreed, you want to “fix” that, too, to make that go away, but you don’t have to. We can disagree and still love each other.

[ Chuckles ] Yeah, if, uh, anyone knows that, it’s me. When spence and i met at school, we just… clicked. At first, it was a surface level — we liked a lot of the same things — you know, skiing, riding, theater. From the beginning, it’s like… we could both sense something deeper. This bond we shared.

[ Water lapping gently ]

[ Seagulls squawking ] I’m not close with my family, so when… …spence told me about the situation with his father, you know, thinking his father died, and when nikolas came back, he got involved with you, how badly that hurt spence — I totally empathized. I was so completely focused on spence that I never stopped to realize that I was only hearing his version. Do you feel that justifies your actions? No, no, o-of course not. I realize now that spence was angry — h-he was lashing out, and I was so focused on helping him that… I never stopped to see you as a person. To think about what you were going through. What i was helping to put you through. All those times, I was following spence’s instructions. And those things that I did… I would give anything to take them back. I know what it means to go too far, spencer, alright? For actions to have unpredictable consequences. Would you just talk to me, father and son, like we used to, and just tell me how things got so out of control? Things got a little tough when you “died,” father, and they didn’t get a whole lot better when you turned up alive, either — in fact, they got worse. I can’t change what I did, but I can fix what’s happening now. I can help you get your life back on track. This again? You’re going to provide guidance to your poor, troubled son — that’s what you want? No, I want you to stop punishing me before you wreck your own life. I should have known that nikolas wasn’t going to tell me the truth. I’m absolutely naive.

[ Sighs ] And all I’ve done is give him a heads-up that we’re on to him. You know, that could work to our advantage. Nikolas spent the past 6 years thinking he was in the clear. Maybe he got confident, let things slide. Now, if he started scrambling, trying to cover his tracks, he could give something away. Nikolas isn’t scrambling. He’s already got a bribe lined up. The pardon you mentioned. Mm-hmm. Yeah, he — he said that if I drop the subject of hayden, that he and his friend the governor would consider a pardon. And then when I didn’t jump at that opportunity, then it became a warning — either I back off or the pardon disappears. There’s only one thing to do. I know. Take the deal. What?! As far as I know, cyrus renault’s ass is rotting away in a federal prison somewhere in the midwest. Flatland. The operator mentioned it when cyrus called me collect. He called — wait a minute. What did he want? Oh, he was trying to dangle, you know, s-some information that he may or may not have. See, that’s how cyrus operates. It’s all mind games with him. Yep. Yep. Now, you guys were there when he finally went down. Anything you can give me on — on what happened that night? I can tell you that cyrus renault is a brutal, dangerous man. He was waiting for me when I got home and forced me to patch him up at gunpoint. You just… you just can’t stand it, can you, carly? That sonny lived 9 months of his life and you know nothing about it. That he was perfectly happy without you — maybe even a little happier — and now you want revenge, and you’re using your own son to get it for you.

Curtis: I didn’t know what he was going to do next. Cyrus was unraveling. He was — he was screaming at laura. He was waving his gun around. That guy was about two seconds from shooting laura, so I dropped my gun, and he shot me instead. Which gave jordan the opening she needed to enter the house and shoot renault. Laura is a friend, very special to me. I want to thank you for saving her life. Glad I could be there. So am I. I appreciate you guys talking to me. It means a lot. You’re not staying for — for a workout? Oh, you know what?

[ Chuckling ] I haven’t boxed in so long. But I got — I got to check on someone. Alright.

[ Sighs ] I thought we heard the last of cyrus renault. I guess we’re not that lucky. Think about wh ere you weresupposed to be, spencer — taking a gap year, touring the world. And you threw all of that away to get back at me. I’m curious — are you happy with the results? What can I say? The amalfi coast is overrated. I want you to stop sabotaging yourself. Why won’t you listen to me? I will. As soon as you listen to me and cut ava out of your life.

She will always keep… I don’t expect you to forgive me… but if there’s ever anything I can do — any way to make amends, I would appreciate the chance. Well, esme, you’re not the first young woman to get wrapped up in a man and do things she regrets, and I’m willing to put what’s happened behind us and start fresh.

[ Chuckling ] Oh, my god! T-that wasn’t — hmm. Thank you so, so much. You’re welcome. It’s my hope that you can be a good influence on spencer, and hopefully, someday, help him accept his new reality. I think he will. Deep down, spence loves his father. [ Sighs ] I-I-I’m serving my sentence. It’s my responsibility. It’s my debt to society that I need to — pay your debt on the outside. Right? Use your talents to help people. Volunteer at a legal clinic.

[ Sighs ] Do you want me to just ignore that my nephew is an attempted murderer? I mean, how am I going to look myself in the mirror, let alone maintain my sobriety? No. You want to do what’s best for me? You help me bring my nephew to justice. You, uh, may have noticed that the quartermaines are argumentative. Yes, I’ve picked up on that. But they’re nothing compared to my mom and dad. We always talk about how they were married five times. That means there was four break-ups. Well, I mean, realistically, 8 or 10, and I’m not talking about, like, it’s a disagreement and somebody leaves. I mean, there was — there was yelling, screaming, throwing glass. You know, court battles. My brother morgan and i taken to puerto rico in the middle of the night so we wouldn’t have to see it. And there are times my parents could not stand to be in the same room as each other. But I always knew that they — they were still in love with each other, no matter what. Because even at their worst, whenever one was in trouble, the other one had their back. And that’s how I feel about you, willow. I mean, I can’t imagine any of that kind of fighting, you know — throwing barware, screaming, yelling — all of that kind of stuff, but, you know, even if — even if we did… if you told me to leave and that you hated me and you never wanted to see me again, I’d — I’d leave. And the next day, you call me and you tell me that you need me? I’d be there, no questions asked. I know. Nina: Michael’s just your puppet. Which shows you know nothing about my son or how deep the hole you dug by lying to him to steal time with wiley. Well, I know michael enough to know he wouldn’t do this on his own.

[ Scoffs ] You’re the one pulling us through the ugliness of a trial. And why? Carly, it’s not going to change anything. You’re not going to get those 9 months back. And by targeting me and potentially hurting others, you may find that you also hurt yourself. And how would I do that? What’s going on?

[ Clears throat ] Got it. Oh, and spencer — the coffee. I know. God, I cannot stand that woman. Spence… she has got my father completely under her spell. He needs a wake-up call. You never even considered taking the deal? Of course I have. I hate it here. It’s a hell of a lot better than pentonville, but — but I’m still locked in it. I can’t wait to get out, and I’ll be glad when I get out, but I’m not getting out until my sentence is served. I admire your commitment and your willpower. Ah, maybe it just boils down to stubbornness.

[ Sighs ] I am not going to let my nephew use his money and his influence in order to escape a consequence that he needs to face.

[ Clears throat ] I just don’t know how I’m going to get him to tell the truth. Spencer: Hey, how are ya? I’m well. And look at you, all grown up. Yeah. And a working man, I see. Yeah, you know, I’ve come a long way from the son who could get his father to do anything for him. I think I know a way. Even before my mom found shiloh, we were always moving around, so I didn’t have friends I could count on growing up. People I could call in the middle of the night. Even my dad — he loved me, but he wasn’t strong enough to stand up to my mom. So, meeting you, falling in love with you… it’s like… finding a safe place. Knowing you won’t back down, knowing you won’t bail. That you’re wonderful and kind and generous, and underneath all that, you are pure steel. You won’t let anyone hurt wiley or me. No, I won’T. You’ve given me security, michael. Made me feel safe enough to disagree with you. Safe enough to tell you that I love you and I want to marry you someday, just not right now.

[ Breathes sharply ] I can wait for “someday.” I can wait forever, if I have to. I promise it won’t be that long. Sonny seems to be getting right back into the swing of his “business.”

[ Indistinct conversations in distance ] Does that worry you? Given that trina’s so close with joss? I’ve had a few anxious moments when trina first started going over to sonny’s house, but I’ve seen how careful he is to protect his family and to keep them away from anything questionable. So for the most part, I just try not to dwell on it. Makes sense.

[ Sighs ] Although it’s quite unsettling to hear that renault reached out to sonny. Yeah, I’ve been thinking about that. So renault reaches out to sonny out of the blue. At the same time, “mystery man” shows up in town asking questions about me. Do you think that that man could be working for cyrus? Nina was just explaining to me that, if she goes to trial, it’s all my fault. Excuse me. I’m late for work. I knew she’d get off bail, but I didn’t know it was going to be this soon. Yeah, me neither, but I walked in and there she was. I thought you were going to avoid her. This is my restaurant. Yeah, she shouldn’t be here. No, she shouldn’t be here. I tried it your way, but she’s in my face, and there’s no way in hell I’m backing down. So from now on, it’s between me and nina.
