Well, like it’s a dream come true. As if my own son were getting married. Oh, Victor, would you be my best man?

Now, Tustin, I would have thought you’d want one of your friends. You my friend? I mean somebody your own age, a contemporary. Well, Victor, there’s no man that I consider a better friend to me than you’ve been. And, uh, there’s no man’s friendship that I want more than yours. truly was like a father to me. He’s the only father that I really had most of my life. God, I’m really gonna miss him. His humor, his wit, his passion for life. For the people who loved him. And the people he loved.

The impossible demands, the ultimatums. I mean, my God, if you didn’t do exactly what that man told you to do and how to do it, you would find yourself fired. You would find yourself kicked out of the mansion. You would find yourself disowned. Sometimes all three. Did this come from Ciara? It’s her crazy theory that I’m trying to destroy the company to get back at you.

Are you? Trust me, Titan is in very good hands. Sierra is just upset because I denied some of her business proposals, that’s all. So she ran to Grandpa with a silly accusation just because I didn’t give her a gold star. Sierra never said a word to me. I’m monitoring your business decisions, Peggy. Not only are they unsound, they’re reckless.

Based on what? Well, for starter, you substantially overpaid for a company that couldn’t possibly be integrated into Titan. No, that’s your opinion. No, that’s fact.

Also, you got your revenge against Xander when I handed you the company. That wasn’t enough for you. You had to get revenge against me as well. By imploding the company that I built from the ground up. God, was there ever a man that was… More enthralled with his own power. He pitted us all against each other.

Because he thought that that was bringing out our competitive spirit. Instincts. To make us better at business. Make us tougher. Make us more ruthless. We all hated it. But we all fell in line. Because… All we really wanted to do was please that man. Because…

We loved him.

Brady definitely didn’t take it well when he found out that Xander proposed. Xander

proposed to you? You’re not wearing a ring. Yeah, um, I told him I needed some time to think about it. Because of your feelings for Brady. Well, that’s part of it. But Xander only proposed after he found out that Gwen is marrying Dimitri and that Sarah is back with Rex. What? Rex never mentioned to me that they were involved again.

Oh, well, apparently they are, but my point is I’m just trying to get a handle on Xander’s feelings and mine. Oh, my relationship with Brady ended so abruptly, and, and honestly, there’s Philip. Philip? Yeah. He and I had gotten so close before he died, and then, hearing about Victor’s passing, it just, it brought back a flood of memories.

All the good times that he and I had together, and how, you know, we truly loved each other once. Kate, I can’t imagine how much you miss him. And the thought of losing a child, I, I just could not imagine that.

Why would Philip fake his own death? And he also framed Brady for the murder. But trust me, Victor, he was not in his right mind when he did it. She was a trollop, Chloe Lane. She, she, she drove him to this. I mean, he believes it. Everything he’s done he’s failed at. He believes that no one loves him. I’m afraid he really thinks that life is not worth living.

He needs help.

And then my assignment was to bring him the pawn. Who turned out to be John. A human being. That Victor won in some demented competition. And the poor dude was covered in bandages. He had no memory. Makes me sick to think about what I did back then. You were just a kid. No baby, I was old enough to make my own choices.

And I chose to take orders and money from a crime boss. That made me a criminal too. Victor Kiriakis was a very powerful man. He was intimidating, frightening. Also, the whole thing was seductive. Yeah. Boy, was I in deep. But I finally realized I had to get out, no matter what it cost me. You give me some proof.

That is not the reason that I don’t want to tell Philip. And he’s not that bad. anymore. And why? Because if he finds out that his father’s dead, he’s going to come back to Salem. And then he’ll end up under arrest.

Look, I understand that you want to hold people accountable to the law, but, uh, this department, I mean, our resources are limited here, so don’t you think that we should focus on something higher priorities? I’m the victim of a crime. That’s not a priority for you, Commissioner? Um, it’s a personal matter, and it’s one that I don’t think the police should be involved with.

Apparently, Abe Carver isn’t the only one with memory issues around here. You do remember who put you in this chair. And I told you that I couldn’t accept the job, but then you said… That I would be unemployed if I didn’t. And now you serve at the pleasure of the mayor.

It’s acting, mayor. And, yes, that is true, sir. But, um, I’m not your lackey. Excuse me? Okay, if you, if you put me in this chair thinking that I’m going to jump every time you snap your fingers, you’re going to be sorely disappointed. Because, you know what? I don’t owe you anything. I took an oath to serve and protect the people of Salem, and that’s what I intend to do. There’s no talking you out of this, is there? Afraid not. I mean, legally, there’s nothing preventing Abe from resuming his duties as mayor. But I’m sure you know that a guy like Rawlings isn’t going to give up the office quietly. If you give him the boot, he’s going kicking and screaming. Yeah, well, let him have his tantrum. It’s not like there’s anything else he can do.

Unfortunately, there is. I mean, you’ve already seen how he’s used the media as a weapon, and… I think he could use the video from the press conference to stir up support and maybe showcase Abe’s memory loss and make him look unfit for office. To what end? He could organize a recall, but the general election’s less than two months away, so he’s probably just gonna run against you to try to get the power back that way, but either way he’s gonna make your life very difficult, and Abe’s already been through so much.

I just don’t want to see you get hurt again. Neither do I. Your health has to be the priority. Once you start to remember, we can reconsider our options. Well, who knows when that will ever happen. Well, we do know engaging in any kind of very nasty, very public fight with that creep won’t help. Well, I can’t just sit back while Rawlings tramples all over my constituents rights.

I have to try to do something. Well, not if it means putting your reputation and your recovery at risk. You know, I think that there might be a way to stop Rollings without doing that.

Look, Philip fate, his death, and then he framed Brady for it, okay? If he had stayed in Salem, he would’ve either ended up in Statesville or Bayview in either one. He would not have survived it. So, You and Victor sent him to a private psychiatric facility overseas to get him the help he needs. And to avoid arrest.

I mean, frankly, he was there avoiding police just as much as he was healing. Roman, if he comes back here, he’s going to be facing a serious prison term. He could beat those charges. Plead not guilty by reason of mental illness.

Even if he’s not locked up, I’m going to have to worry about Brady. I would have to, I would be worrying that Brady wouldn’t try to kill him for what he did to him. Brady is not going to murder anyone. Oh really? Don’t be so sure. Two weeks ago he lost custody of Rachel because he pulled a gun on Kristen.

Look, you are gonna have, well, Phillip, sometime you can’t hide this from him forever. I mean, Victor’s death is international news. Well, actually I have an arrangement, a facility, and they will keep him insulate. Sooner or later he is gonna find out, kid how? I mean now that that victor’s dead. Only you and I know.

And Rex and Lucas and, well, I did confide in Paulina. So you did say that Phillip is stronger now? Yes, but that’s just the problem. If he finds out that Victor’s dead, he’s going to insist on being with this fella. Not if you explain to him why he can’t. What? You can’t be serious. Okay, I’ve got two things planned for us today. First thing is we are going to go on a hike in the Eldron Lava Fields. And then after that… A soak in the hot springs. Uh, hopefully we don’t mix those two up. Yeah, that would be quite problematic, wouldn’t it? Um, right, so anyway, it’s um, now quite high tourist season, so we best get a move on.

The concierge has gotten us tickets, but I think it’s best to just get ahead of the crowds.

Dmitri? Why don’t you look? All that excited. Is something wrong?

When Chanel and I were married in Italy, That was real. And then it all just… Ended so abruptly and horribly. I know.

But Grandma, before it did, it was amazing. You know, the way that Chanel and I looked at each other at San Carlo, the Four Fountains, that was like we just, we, we, we walked right into a movie. You know, but it also felt real. More real than any moment I’ve ever had in my life.

But that’s over. And as we all are eager to hear what might be your agenda, I have an announcement to make. As of this moment, I am returning to my full duties as mayor of Salem. And my first official act will be to reopen my stepdaughter’s bakery.

I don’t know, I guess the reason I haven’t told Chanel how I feel yet is because I just, I, I, I… I don’t know if it’s the right time right now for that. And why is that? Grandma, she’s been through so much already. And now she’s dealing with the bakery being closed again. Not to mention I just made a pretty serious play for Wendy Shen.

And lost. I might not look very good if I just move on to someone else so quickly, you know? And then there’s my sister. I just went to New Zealand to visit her and things were great between us. But she and I were, you know, at each other’s throats for quite a while over Chanel. And even though she’s moved on and happy with someone else, I just, I don’t, I don’t know if I want to put Chanel between the two of us again.

Well, it sounds to me like you’re concerned about other people having feelings, having thoughts about it. It doesn’t matter. All that matters is how you feel about it, how you think about it. I am perfectly, mentally, and physically capable of performing this job as mayor of this town. Um, Mr. Carver, uh, can you name all the members of the city council? Or any of the members of the city council? Not one? Anybody, Mr. Carver? Um, how about the aldermen or other commissioners? How about your own daughter?

I should be on my honeymoon, definitely, but it’s kind of difficult to enjoy my newly wedded bliss when the man who tried to kill me is roaming free. So the question is, Melinda… When are you and the newly appointed police commissioner going to do something about it?

So, did Rafe and Jada give you a hard time about being the new commissioner? No, no they didn’t. They actually, they um, need a quick exit upstairs. Anyway, what did Kristen have to say? Oh, well, she was concerned that Rachel and Brady were M. I. A. But, my brother finally arrived and dropped Rachel off at that incident, of course.

Mm, stud. It boggles my mind how he lost custody of her. He must be going out of his mind. Yeah, he is. My dad called too. He’s really worried about Brady’s reaction and just hoping to hell he doesn’t do something rash.

Air traffic control is checking the radar. So far, nothing. No sign of them. How can that be? How can that possi possibly be?

That was Megan Drop the act, Lee. Stefan and I both know that you were involved. And sometime in the not so distant future, we are gonna prove it.

Seven, you know damned well I did my best to put Lee Shin behind bars. But Harris Michaels pointed the finger at Megan DiMera. He says he remembers her and Rolf plotting your death, but not Lee. As far as Michaels is concerned, Lee had zero part in it. Right, except we both know that that is not true. Lee was acting very suspiciously that night.

Kept insisting that his sister Wendy not go to the party because he knew something was going to happen. But where is the proof? Proof? What proof? Everything he did was proof! Stefan, I need a smoking gun. Without it, my hands are tied. Right. Okay, I get that. I do. It’s just…

And he’s so remorseful. And he’s a changed man. Ugh. Not to mention, she also said that whether or not she accepts his proposal, that if I want to keep being her friend, I have to accept that Xander is a part of her life. Look, I’m sorry, I’m sorry. Hey, I wasn’t thinking. I just feel the pull between us all the time and I And what, Brady?

We are not together anymore. I know. I’m with Xander. I know, I know you’re with Xander. I ran into Xander and he told me that he proposed to you. He did, yes. He also told me that you haven’t answered him yet, which means to me, there’s still a possibility that I can talk you out of marrying that creep.

Maggie, we shouldn’t jump to conclusions. Look, that’s right. Maybe the plan’s just delayed. You know, for all we know, he could be on his way home as we speak. Well, why can’t they contact the plane? Or he, or locate it? Well, the whole thing’s a little tricky, seeing as Uncle Vic never filed a flight plan. Why?

Why didn’t he? Because he went to visit Bo in an undisclosed location, and he didn’t want to leave a paper trail. In case Megan DeMera was keeping tabs on him. Do you know where Moe is? No, he didn’t say. And, in fact, he didn’t even call me the whole time he was gone. Just to be on the safe side, he said. You know what, uh, I know this is a long shot, but maybe, maybe he’ll pick up.

I have to say, that’s disappointing to hear. I was hoping that since now you’re happily married, we could let bygones be bygones. Maybe even be friends. Friends? Like, people who tag each other in photos, who meet up for Sunday brunch? Are you kidding me? Why would I trust you? Well, for one thing, you got married and I didn’t try to stop the wedding.

Or murder the groom. That’s a start. I don’t know what kind of game you’re playing, but I’m having a hard time believing the Mr. Nice Guy act, so you can shove that olive branch where the sun don’t shine and leave me and my husband alone. Oh, I got the message loud and clear when you showed up at my home and proceeded to point a gun in my face.

Oh, I’m glad you finally got the message! Honestly, Gabby, the last thing I want to do is interfere with your happiness. Yeah? Well, the only way I’ll know for sure that you won’t try is when you wake up every single morning to the sound of a nightstick rattling across the bars of your lonely little cell.

I can assure you, that’s not going to happen. Oh, yeah? Why is that? Is it because you’re screwing the DA? How did you know I was seeing Lee? Are you spying on me? No, no. No, I took the more economical route, and I picked up the latest issue of The Spectator, and I read Lady Whistleblower’s Column. Apparently, you and Lee have been seen canoodling all around town.

Oh, I would hardly call it canoodling. I mean, we were set up on a blind date, and believe me, neither one of us were thrilled. That first date was a dumpster fire. Really? What happened? You know what? None of, none of my business. No, no, no, it’s okay. I don’t mind telling you that I tried to trick him into Confessing on tape and we figured it out.

He stormed off Wow so You mentioned a second ago first date. Does that mean there’s a second? Unintentionally, yes, and to my surprise that turned out pretty well So well, in fact, that we planned another. But he skedaddled on me before that even began. And I haven’t heard from him since. Hmm. Believe me when I tell you, you are much better off.

I suppose so. Although, I have to say it was rather nice having my feelings returned for once. Melinda, you know, I think the world of you. Please, spare me. I am in no mood for a pity party. And to answer your not in the least bit inappropriate question from before, no, I am not letting Lee off the hook because, uh, he likes Scandinavian crime dramas as much as I do.

Believe me, there’s no conflict of interest. Great. Then let’s talk about how you’re going to put that psychopath behind bars.

Okay, I’m sorry, but that was way out of line. Xander is not a creep. No, he’s not. You’re right. He’s a man of integrity and extreme character, but he’s also a guy who left you in the clutches of a dangerous drug lord. He also shot me and left me to die. He also shot Marlena at her wedding. I don’t think creep actually describes him.

Okay, okay, I get it. Xander has done some terrible things in the past. He has, but… Guess what? So have I. And so have you, for that matter. What he did to Bonnie and Susan, that doesn’t even categorize as the past, Chloe. And he is filled with regret about that. I’m sure he tosses and turns every night about it.

I have felt his regret firsthand, and trust me, it is genuine. Well, look, I know that he can be stubborn, and arrogant, and impulsive. But I’ve also gotten to know a man who is kind and gentle and who listens. Are you in love with him? I don’t want to be having this conversation with you, Brady. No, it’s a simple question, and the fact that you can’t give me a straight answer means, to me, that whatever you think you have with Xander, it can’t hold a candle to what we once had.

What we once had, it crashed and burned in a pretty spectacular fashion. No, no, no, no, not for me. Not for me. And our chemistry is still there. I feel it. It is palpable. And I know you feel it too. Brady, I can, I can… And even when we just kissed, it was still there. You felt it. It’s always there. It’s always gonna be there.

I’m pretty sure you love me too, so all that’s left to do is for you to tell this guy who has conned his way into making you believe that he has changed and doesn’t deserve one more tender moment with you, much less a lifetime. Okay, first of all, it’s kind of ironic having a guy who plots murder calling someone crass for asking about their sex life.

Second of all, according to Lady Whistleblower, you’re at the very least canoodling with her. Who uses the word canoodle anymore? Okay, well, are you not romancing the district attorney? Why am I even surprised? Do you think that you’re so good in the sack that she’s just gonna forget to prosecute you? Is that what it is?

You know, that’s not the worst idea. I mean… You never filed any complaints in that department. I was being polite. I didn’t want to bruise your ego. I know that’s not true. But in all seriousness, Gabby, my relationship with Melinda Trask has nothing to do with you or Stefan. I’m just a heartbroken guy trying to move on.

I mean, the whole reason I got a matchmaker in the first place was so that you and I, we don’t have to do this sort of contentious thing anymore. I’m only trying to Okay, spare me your TED talk on your emotional resilience or whatever. I don’t care about your life, so stay the hell out of mine!

You know, this is not how I envisioned this night going. It was supposed to be a joyful reunion with all of our family. But I was so hopeful. Well, I would have been sorely disappointed if Uncle Vic didn’t call me an idiot at least a couple more times before it was all over. Same here. I was kinda hoping maybe he’d picked up a few new barbs across the pond, you know? I’ve actually come to enjoy his insults. Kind of makes me feel part of the family.

Well, rest assured that there will be plenty of insults to go around once Uncle Vic returns. Especially when he finds out how worried we were for absolutely no reason. It’s alright. It’s true. It is possible. He probably made a stop somewhere. Well, he probably found a Scotch and a crafts table in Monaco. Even so, wouldn’t he let Maggie know? I mean, I, I understand Victor being tight lipped about Poe’s location with good reason. But if he were flying somewhere, wouldn’t he at least put a quarter in a payphone and give Maggie a head heads?

I’m sorry. I’m making everyone just worry more. I’m… Lonnie. Actually, I couldn’t be more worried than I am right now. It is getting more and more strange, isn’t it? I know what I’ll do. I’ll call Shane at the ISA. Maybe he can find us some answers.

So let me get this straight. Victor left your mom three days ago. Did he say he was coming straight home? I mean, she just assumed that was the case. She said that he was, he was being vague about his plans. And did she say anything else? Anything that would indicate where Victor might have been going? No, no.

She just, she said that he… That he was very, he seemed very distracted. It’s like something was, something was weighing on him. And did she ask him about it? No, no. She said that she, she didn’t want to pry. Interesting. Well, it makes me wonder then, if maybe that had something to do with his disappearance.

Shane said he’ll look into it, but not to expect any answers anytime soon. Well, I guess then there’s no sense in everyone hanging around here. I got it. Mind staying? Keeping you company? I’m the one that knows what her best interests are. I’m the one that knows what to do when she wakes up in the middle of the night. I know what to do when she’s scared and when she’s alone. I’m the one that knows how to soothe her, you know? No one tells how much you love your daughter. Except that judge.

She made a terrible mistake. Yeah, well, you know what? I made a mistake, too. Because I went over there with a gun, and I stuck it in Kristen’s face. And I gave the court every reason that they needed to give Rachel to Kristen. I know that you’re blaming yourself right now, but still, it’s just not fair. Dad, you’re, you’re, yeah.

Yeah, it’s not fair. How can anyone in the world think that Kristen’s influence would be good for any kid? And now there’s nothing I can… Do about it. They’ve backed you into a corner, and I’m sure that you would do almost anything to fix it, right? That’s right. Like, maybe buy a car online with an out of state registry so you can whisk your daughter out of town under the cover of darkness?

That’s a solid plan, Dad. I wish I’d thought of that one. Like you did. In fact, you’re going to put that plan in motion within an hour’s time. Wait, hold on, hold on. You think because I… No, I know this because you made a mistake and used the Wi Fi in this house to buy that car. What? What the hell are you even know, I should have warned you beforehand.

Because of my work with Blackpatch, this joint is wired with sophisticated software most people don’t even know about. Spyware and it’s programmed to send me an alert when there’s unusual activity. I’m buying a car in Texas and shipping it to Salem is unusual activity. Dad, you’re spying on me. I’m unintentionally not.

Okay, um, I admit I was surprised when I found out that Rawlings gave Sean my job, but no one wants to hear me complain about it. You’re allowed to vent. You’re allowed to be upset. Vent? What am I going to vent about? I broke the rules. And Sean didn’t? His situation was totally different than mine. Well, except he is the reason why Rawlings even knew about you and I in the first place.

Yeah, but he didn’t do it intentionally. But still, he’s gotta hurt that he’s the one that got your job. Huh. Okay. Are you trying to make me snap right now? No, no, no, no. And I hate it. But, they were, I mean it was gonna suck, no matter who they gave my job to, they were always gonna give it to somebody. Yeah, but, why Sean? Well, who else should they have given it to? I don’t know. How about me?

I came back to work today because my suspension was up, and, uh, next thing you know, I’ve got the acting mayor wanting me to take over for Rafe. And you just said yes? No, no, of course not. No, I, I, no, I turned him down. I even said that I think that Rafe is still the right man for the job.

Then he made it very clear that that’s never gonna happen, and then I suggested that Jada be the commissioner. And what did Rawlings say to that? He said that Jada was implicated just like Rafe was. And then he said if I don’t take the job, that he wouldn’t let me come back as detective. So, it’s either this or nothing.

Wait, do you think I should have walked away?

There is my favorite niece and nephew. They can’t be your favorites, they’re my favorites. They can be both of your favorites.

And, and I’m not saying that Sean is not a great detective, and I’m not saying that he doesn’t have seniority over me.

But, but what I’m saying is that… I mean, the guy just got busted for drinking on the job. Yeah. Well, not to mention the fact that you’ve been in the center of our major investigations over the last six months. Exactly. And, and, and Sean just comes in and, and, and comes into his first new day on the job and where does he get?

He gets a shiny new job in a shiny new office. Looks like I’m not the one who needed to vent. Okay, I’ll stop. I sound bitter. I sound petty. No. No. You’re neither of those things.

It’s just… Did I tell you? Did I tell you how this happened at my last job? What, that you got passed up for a promotion? You know, they’ve never had a person of color in the higher echelon. And you know, that record is still intact. That is wrong in so many damn ways.

I mean, you know, it’s not Sean’s fault. It’s not, you know, I don’t blame him. He did actually decline the job and he even recommended me. But still, I just, I can’t help but just feel a bit upset that he, he comes in and he’s at the right place, the right time, the right skin tone.

I send it. Rafe was a really popular commissioner. Everyone really loved him. Yeah, he was a great boss. But, you didn’t answer my question. Do you think I should have turned it down? I think that even if Rafe wasn’t a part of this, that I would have some reservations about you taking this on. Why? Because, Sean, you’re still in a really fragile place, you know?

You’ve really been struggling with everything since what happened with your dad. Yeah, of course I’ve been struggling. I almost killed my own father. Okay, but you’re making great progress with my mom. But even you would have to admit there’s still a ways to go. So you think the job is too much for me? I think that you can handle anything that the world throws at you.

And I also think that you’re the strongest person I’ve ever met. I don’t want you to think that I’m doubting you. Listen, I get it, Belle. You’re afraid that I’m going to relapse. You’re afraid that I’m going to start drinking again. Yeah, I am. Well, I mean, I am too. But, but come on, I mean, isn’t that a good thing?

That means that I’m, I’m never gonna let my guard down. Not even for a second. Look, I understand the responsibilities that come with this job. I’ve had three family members serve in this office honorably. And they’re all going to be very proud of you. I know I am. But you have your doubts. And that is understandable.

I mean, believe me, I’ve, I’ve got mine too. Yeah, but what if this challenge is what I need to, to, to finally heal and to, to start believing in myself again?

Listen, you do not need to prove yourself to me. I hope you know that. I believe in you more than anyone else. Does that mean that you’re on board? I think that if you want to do this, you are going to be the best Commissioner Brady there ever was.

Son, I have a feeling that if I were to try to stop you, I would wind up unconscious on the floor here, and you would still take off with your daughter. Well, then it seems you understand how determined I am to protect my little girl. And I understand that there is only one person who can stop you from doing this on that issue.

You think I’m making a big mistake? Let me tell you how this works. You know, in the eyes of the cops here, You’re going to be a kidnapper, so they’re going to throw out an Amber Alert and all that kind of stuff. But what I’m most worried about is Kristen. You think she’s going to let you take off with her daughter?

She has unlimited resources. That means you will never not be on the run. I understand that. Do you really? Do you? Do you understand it’s going to be you and Rachel constantly looking over your shoulder or you won’t be able to settle down anywhere? That’s got to be better than doing nothing, Dad. I got to do something.

I got to, I got to act. Okay, so you’re backed into a corner. Think about the corner you’re gonna back Rachel into. She’ll never be able to see her friends again. She’ll never be able to see her family again. Dad, don’t, don’t, don’t! There’s no life for a little girl! What, you think she’s gonna thank you for that?

I’m telling you, son, her day’s gonna come… when she’s gonna hate you for

that. Dad, listen to me. Believe me. I’ve, I’ve, I’ve, I’ve thought about all of this. I’ve gone through every scenario in my head. It’s not going to be easy to be on the run. It is going to be a challenge to make Rachel understand. But think about the alternative, okay? I don’t like her living in that house any more than you do.

It’s not the house, Dad. It’s the fact that Kristen’s going to be poisoning her head every day. And she’s going to turn her against me, you, Marlena, everyone else. She’s smart. She knows that we love her. But how long is that going to last with Kristen being able to turn her against us every second of every day?

Dad, she needs me. Running isn’t the only option here. What you do is you stay here and you fight. I could lose. I don’t want to lose. You keep fighting. You fight until you get that judgment overturned. Listen, the time’s going to come. You’re going to be able to prove that you’re the better person, that you’re the better parent.

Yeah, but in the meantime, Kristen is just going to be pulling Rachel closer, and she’s going to be driving her away from me. I know this is hard, but if you take off running here, you defy that court order, it is all over. You’re never gonna be safe. Not from the law, not from Kristen, because when they find you, you’re gonna lose your daughter forever.

And Kristen is gonna win.

Rawlings wanted us closed for good after Biscuit Gate, but he thinks that I got preferential treatment because Abe was the mayor. Abe was elected. The people didn’t choose Rawlings. And this person is not going to let him bully my daughter out of business. What are you gonna do? Mm mm, don’t you worry, baby girl.

My son, Charlie, had, uh, issues. Mainly with me. Um, but ironically, back then when I was just fine, he wanted to have me committed to a mental hospital. So he kidnapped me. And he, uh, drugged my food, which started me having hallucinations. That’s awful. Yeah. But my son Tripp, he found me. Um, but I thought he was Charlie.

I was seeing blood everywhere. I was screaming. I just basically lost my grip on reality. So, uh, I ended up in the hospital. It happened again. Yeah, I thought that I saw Charlie trying to stab Tripp. Anyway, they, uh, flushed the drugs out of my system, and then just when I was starting to feel better,

the real Charlie showed up to try and kill me. My God. Yeah,

well, luckily, I’m very lucky that some, some people showed up, and they stopped Charlie. And then someone stopped him for good. Because right after I was let go from the hospital, Charlie was shot to death. Ava, I’m so sorry. Yeah. Anyway, hallucinations…

They stopped for a while And I was doing really really really great for a bit but then And I was having a rough time a couple of months ago. And they started up again. You know, Charlie, he was there, you know, and he was talking, he was just whispering in my ear and he was telling me to do terrible, terrible things.

And I

did.

I had a full on psychotic break and that’s how I ended up here. Dr. Evans said that she thought you were improving. Yeah, I was. I mean, I had been. You know, between the meds and the therapy, I thought the visions were gone.

Apparently not.

Anyway, I am sure you didn’t want to hear all of that. I just, um… I really wanted to come up to you and apologize for, you know, attacking you earlier. There’s nothing personal. Yeah, of course.

Okay, here’s. Man of few words. I, um, You seem like a really nice person. And, um, I just want you to rest assured that I am going to do my very best to make sure that nothing like that happens again. I’m going to get right on it with Mitrick. I have

never been attracted to women before. And I have, like, no experience in this. In dating, you mean? No, I mean, I’ve only really been in one real relationship in my whole entire life. And the guy turned out to be a lunatic. So it just makes me wonder if… You wonder what? Okay, um, I did a psych rotation in med school.

So I know all about, like, transference and avoidance. And I can’t help but think that my interest in women is, I don’t know, because of what one terrible man did to me. Is that what you think is happening? I don’t know. I mean, after everything that happened with Colin, it’s just like, I don’t trust my judgment anymore.

So, it’s entirely possible that my feelings for Chanel… Aren’t real.

Hey, what the hell? You know, that sign says you’re shut down. We are. Again. By Salem’s acting mayor. Why? Because I failed to display the City of Salem sticker in the window. A sticker that the City of Salem never sent me. Well then, how are you supposed to display it? Exactly. That’s it. This whole thing is totally bogus.

I don’t see any stickers around here. Yet, somehow, my business is the only one that Rawlings hit with a surprise inspection from the health department. He is out to get me, and it’s… He pretty much admitted as much. How come? Did he, uh, eat one of your… Spiked biscuits and spontaneously proposed to somebody?

Not funny, G. You’re right. It’s not funny. So… What is this guy’s problem? Why is he targeting you? I have no idea. But at this point, what difference does it make? Well… I mean, he can’t just shut you down because he has a personal beef with you. If he admitted that that’s what he did, then you gotta fight back.

You know, Mama agrees with you, and she has some idea how to go about it, but she won’t tell me what it is. She just stormed off, and Lord knows what she’s up to.

And I’m guessing that didn’t happen. Love? No. Not now, but another kid. But, you know, when they placed newborn Charlie in my arms, I felt nothing.

And I couldn’t even look at him. Because when I did, he just, he reminded me of everything that I’d lost. You know, Steve. Tripp.

There was no way that I could raise him, right? So I gave him, I gave him to his father, Jimmy. He’s a nice guy. But whenever he’d bring little Charlie around, I’d just…

God, the little boy, he just, he tried anything, anything he could to get my attention, you know. Get me to smile at him, give him a hug, and… Guess what I gave him. Nothing. Yeah. Yeah, Allie said sorry for, you know, leaving the way she did. But I get it. You know, she just needed to get out, start fresh. And she seems, you know, like she’s doing really well now that she, um… Now that she’s seeing someone else. Johnny, it’s fine. I heard about it months ago. And I was a little rattled at first, but I’m fine now, really.

So, what’s he like? What’s, um, honestly, he’s just, he’s a total tool. I mean, zero. Personality, and between you and me, he’s, he’s ugly. God, he’s so ugly. Oh, yeah, nice try. But to be honest, he doesn’t hold a candle to you. Chanel, nobody does.

What are you talking about? The acting mayor, Clint Rawlings, has gotten way too big for his bridges. He used the health department to shut down Chanel’s bakery again. Again? Um, well, it’s a long story, but the point is it’s not fair, it’s not right, and you’re the only one who can fix it. Well, how am I supposed to do that?

You were elected mayor of this town. Rawlings only stepped in when you were presumed dead. That’s your job, Abraham. You need to go take it back and kick that power trippin poser to the curb. If this was some random person, I wouldn’t even dream of asking, but it’s Chanel and you think of her as your own.

She poured her heart and soul into that bakery, which she was only able to open because of you. Me? Mm hmm. A couple of years ago, you launched an initiative to incentivize people of color to open businesses in the town square. You were so impressed with Chanel’s application that you passed it on to the city council and they approved it.

She went from being this… This lost girl to a thriving, independent woman, and oh, Abraham, if you just remembered all that, no, I just know you will do everything in your power to make sure that she knows Bakerie’s up and running again, so please, please, Abraham, please, just help my daughter before it’s too late.

Okay, well, it sounds like you were brainwashed into doing what you did. I mean, that is not your fault. And just, like, having mental illnesses and nerves. It doesn’t, it doesn’t fit with who I am.

Or who I thought I was. You know, the physical warfare, the psychological warfare, SEALs are trained to withstand it all, and I couldn’t resist orders to kill two innocent people. And then a few weeks ago it happened again. I was gonna kill a guy I didn’t even know.

I just do not understand why I’m so vulnerable to be controlled this way. I just had to make sure it didn’t happen again. That’s why I asked Dr. Evans to have me committed.

And I always, always thought of myself as

this elite warrior.

Invincible, you know? And nobody’s invincible.

And nobody likes being controlled.

Yeah. Well, all I know now is… I’m done. I’m done walking around worrying that any moment I can become somebody else’s pawn.

So how long’s it been since you talked to your son, Tripp? Oh, well, that’s been a while. Because the last time he came to visit a few months ago, I, um, shockingly thought he was Charlie. And I attacked him. So the doctors told him to stay away. Uh, they were afraid that seeing him would trigger me. It must be really hard.

Honestly, I was relieved. Yeah, I just, I can’t keep putting him through that. You know, I didn’t, I didn’t want to do that again to him, but… Recently the doctor said that I could see him again if I wanted to. But I keep saying no because I do not want to snap on him again. You know, I just, I, I can’t, I can’t keep dragging him through my own nightmare.
