I mean, this is almost too good to be true, right?   I mean, all this good news?   First, we find out that our unborn child   is healthy and strong, which is by far the best news of all.

Yes, definitely.

And I get to pursue my dream of becoming a filmmaker.   And I’m lucky enough to have my beautiful wife   and best friend by my side.  Well, I am so excited.   And I am so, so proud of you.  So where do you think we should look for a new place?   I know my college roommate and his fiancé,   they live by the beach, but I also know that-  I guess you’d call ’em the more artsy crowd- Okay, okay, Johnny.   Hold on, hold on. All right?   Before we, you know, set sail into the sunset   there is just one, uh, rather significant hurdle   that we have to face, or should I say I have to face? And what is that? I have to figure out how I am going  to break the news to my mom.  [intriguing music]I can’t believe the governor would have the hubris to do something like that. You know he shouldn’t have been there in the first place. Paulina?  Paulina, are you there?

Yeah.  I’m here, I’m here.  I just–I just, uh- Abraham, I found the website  for the so-called Concerned Citizens of Salem.  Oh, they photoshopped all these pictures of me  where I’m–I’m glowing.  And my head, it’s- it’s in the shape of a damn avocado.  Oh, Abraham, these trolls are gonna go and get me recalled.  I could lose my job, Abe.

I’m not gonna let that happen.  In fact, I am going to put a stop  to this insanity tonight. And how on earth are you gonna do that? Well, I’ll tell you when I get home.  In the meantime, get offline immediately. [gasps]  You’re a wise man, Abraham.  I love you.

Oh, EJ.  Thank you for agreeing to meet me.

No worries.  Uh, may I ask what this is about? Yes, well, I thought we could discuss  this organization called Concerned Citizens of Salem.  They’re planning to recall Paulina. Are they? Yes.  They seem hell-bent on ousting her.  And, um, something interesting came up when we looked into  this so-called Concerned Citizens organization.

Oh.  And, uh, what did you find? Well, it seems that the primary  so-called concerned citizen is you.

Rafe is gone already? Yeah, yeah. He can’t do anything.  Said he’s unwilling to make a deal with Weston.  So I’ll tell you what.  I’m willing to shelve this whole idea  of busting Gabi out of prison for now  if you help me find more evidence. Sorry, change of plans.  I’m not gonna be helping you anymore. You’re not gonna–  what the hell are you talking about?  You do realize that unless you help me clear Gabi,  I’m not backing you as CEO at DiMera?

Darling, I’ve been so concerned  ever since you went to the station.  Did you see Clyde? Did he- did he say anything more about Abigail?

He told me to check out a safe deposit box  at a bank in Chicago.  Inside of it is supposedly proof that Abby’s alive.  [intriguing music]

[sighs]  Oh.  Abraham is right.  Who cares what those idiots think–those internet trolls,  goblins, whatever.  Oh.  Who am I kidding?  I care.  Oh. Oh.  Ooh. [knocking on door]  Oh. Oh! [laughing]  What a lovely surprise.  Oh, what are you doing here, baby girl? Can I come in? Of course, of course.  Oh. Can I get you anything? Oh, no. I’m fine.  I just wanted to let you know  that Johnny and I saw the doctor today. Ah. Well, uh, is everything all right?  Is the baby okay? We’re still waiting on the results  from some of the exams, but they went really well.  And Dr. Greene says  that the baby’s heartbeat is really strong. [gasps] Oh, praise the Lord.  Oh. Whew.  Oh, that’s wonderful news. Yeah. Yeah, it is.  And, um, I have some other news  that you may not think is quite so wonderful. You’re the one spearheading this movement,  aren’t you,  to recall Paulina? I respect you enormously, Abe,  so I’m gonna tell you the truth.  Yes, I am the one leading the charge on this issue.  I created the Concerned Citizens of Salem  to remove your wife from office. I see. Is there anything else? Yeah, there is, actually.  I want you to stop this nonsense now.  [tense music]I’m sorry. I-I-I don’t understand.  Last I checked, EJ was still acting CEO. Mm. Oh dear. [laughs]  I guess you haven’t checked your spam folder.  See, the board, um, they met in private.  And after exchanging in a few pleasantries,  stock tips, et cetera,  they decided to offer me the job. Really?Mm-hmm. Without my support? The board felt it was high time  that another woman was at the helm. Hmm. And I think it also helped  that I sent them a presentation deck  regarding my vision of the company.  And apparently they were very impressed. Good for you.Mm.  Can you imagine strolling through the airport  and, you know, you stop off to get some candy,  a bottle of water, and there I am  on the cover of “Forbes Magazine”–  headlined “The CEO in Stilettos”? Just because you’re CEO  doesn’t mean you can’t still help me with Gabi.  In fact, you can now use DiMera resources  to help me find new evidence. Sorry, Stefan.  I can’t do that.  [knocking on door]Hey, Grandma. Hi, honey.  So how’s everything? Uh, everything is okay.  In fact, it’s better than okay,  which is why I wanted to come and thank you  for your advice earlier. Oh.  You spoke to Chanel?I did, yeah.  I, uh–I told her about the job in LA. And what did she say? Uh, at first she was, you know,  a little upset that I kept it from her,  but, um, yeah,  once she got past that, she was actually really supportive. Oh, honey, that’s wonderful.  So did you– I did. Yes, I accepted the job offer. You’re moving to Los Angeles? I know, I know it seems very sudden. Yeah, well, when we last spoke,  you did mention that you needed some space.  I just didn’t think you meant , miles of it. No, Mama, it has nothing to do with that.  Johnny was offered a job, a dream job, in California. Oh, well.  Well, what about-what about Sweet Bits?  I mean, Chanel, baby–  I mean, you–you know, you can’t forget  that you do have your own career to think of. Yes, and I am thinking of it, and so is Johnny,  which is why I will be starting a Sweet Bits in LA.

Well, that’s, you know, easier said than done,  starting a business.  Chanel, have you thought this through?  I mean, it seems a little impulsive. Mm, who do you think I get that from? What’s that supposed to mean? It means that you’re the one  who has a habit of acting without thinking. I’m sorry, Abraham, I can’t do that.  It’s nothing personal. I’m just- I’m just trying to do the right thing here. By attacking my wife?  Tarnishing her good name?  She made one- one impulsive decision.  And aside from that,  she has been an outstanding mayor. Ooh, I’ll have to disagree with you there.  Now, I’m not questioning her intellect or her stamina.  It’s her judgment that gives me pause. Why?  Because she fired you as DA?  That’s what this is all about, isn’t it?  Retribution. Nothing to do with that.  Now, I’ll admit initially I wasn’t happy  that I’d been sacked, but who would be?  But it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. What do you mean? Well, now that I’ve learned that Jude is  in fact my son,  I’ve had much more time to spend with him,  be a hands-on dad.  Not to mention, I can now devote more attention  to my role as acting CEO of DiMera.  Although, between you and me,  it won’t be long before that role is officially  and permanently mine. [laughs] So I get it.  You finally get everything you want–the corner office,  the assistant who follows you around…  [clicking tongue] Like a little Chihuahua.  You get lunch dates in Brussels with Bezos.  You get all that, and all of a sudden  you lose the desire to help your brother in need. Stefan, I am not the monster.  I am sympathetic to you, to Gabi,  and I would help if I could.  But Shin, he would kick me to the curb  if he found out that I was trying to free the woman  that murdered his beloved son. But she didn’t!I believe you too.  But Shin doesn’t,  and I cannot risk alienating him.  So I am so sorry, little brother,  but my hands are tied. Well, if Clyde said there’s a safety deposit box somewhere  in a bank in Chicago and that has information about Abigail,  what are we doing here?  We’re going to Chicago. At this hour? The banks are closed. Of course.  We’re going tomorrow morning. What do you mean, we? You can’t go alone, darling.  It could be a trap, it could be an ambush. Yeah, which is why I don’t want you involved.  This could be dangerous. You think I’ve never faced a dangerous situation  before in my life? Yeah, not like this.Yes, exactly like this.  I haven’t spent all my years pouring tea  and babysitting, sweetheart.  And my grandmother Alice saved Bo and Hope,  helped them escape from criminals years ago.  Now, if she can do that, I can go to a bank  in Chicago with you in broad daylight. [laughs] All right, but listen.  All right, Clyde could be playing mind games, all right?  This could just be one giant wild goose chase. Still, we have to go. Yeah, we do.  I mean, even if there’s a one in a million chance  that Abigail is still alive,  we gotta-we gotta take that shot. Daddy?  [intriguing music]

Thank you. And now that you’ve signed… Yes. Tell me about the movie.[laughs]  Well, I can’t say too much yet,  but I can promise you it has absolutely nothing  to do with devil possession. Oh.[chuckles] I’m gonna miss you teasing me. Well, I can always tease you over a video call, right? No, but it’s–  it’s not the same as in person. No. And as happy as I am for you  and for your wife and your family,  I am gonna miss having you here with me in Salem. I don’t think Paulina’s gonna like it very much either.  I doubt that she will handle the news as well as you have.

I’m sorry. I-I really am.  I didn’t mean to question your judgment.  I’m just so sad to see you leave. I know.  But, Mama, it’s only gonna be a plane ride away.  And it’s not like we haven’t lived apart before. True, true.  But, I mean, well,  maybe you won’t miss me so much as you did in the past. Oh, Mama, why would you say that? Because, well, even though we, you know,  we got close again when you moved to Salem,  all that’s changed because of what I did.  I’ve ruined everything, didn’t I?  [melancholic music]

You have a lot on your plate, EJ. You could say that again. Then why not drop this recall business?  Rescind the petition. No, it’s too late for that.  The petition is already in the hands of the city council. Then you could disavow it. [clicks tongue] I’m afraid I can’t do that.  The people of Salem have spoken.  And I can’t let them down over some personal disagreement. You don’t give a damn about the people of Salem, EJ.  The only thing you’re interested in is stroking your  ego. [inhales deeply]  With all due respect, Abraham,  I think that is a terribly unfair assessment. Well, I think it’s right on the money.  If your sister Lexie was sitting  where I’m sitting right now…  well–EJ,  Lexie may be gone,  but you and I, we’re still family.  So let me ask you on a personal level  to stop this attack on Paulina.  [tense music]

What the hell am I supposed to do now, huh? Well, maybe you don’t have to do anything. Oh.  You know what? You’re right.  Because maybe if I just close my eyes  and think happy thoughts,  Gabi’ll walk through her prison bars  and out of the prison gates! I meant maybe Clyde will give up some information  that proves that his little associate murdered Li. Except he’s not gonna do that  without getting something major in return.  Rafe has already made it clear he is not making a deal,  not with Weston! Yeah, well, there’s always the Melinda angle. No, no, no, no, no.  I have made that abundantly clear to you.  I am not going to sleep with the DA.  You see this?Mm. Yeah, I do.  It’s already lost its shine. Okay, I resent that.  There is nothing more important to me in this life  than my marriage to Gabi. All right, Stefan.  I am sorry that you are going through this,  but this is the best I’ve got.

There’s only one other choice.

And that is?

Go back to plan B, busting Gabi out of prison. [scoffs] We have been over this. Breaking Gabi outta prison  is a terrible idea.  [sighs]  Look, I have spent more of my life on the run  than I care to imagine.  And trust me, it is no way to live.

Mm.  My wife is locked in prison  for a crime that she didn’t commit, thinking  that we are gonna spend the rest of our lives apart.  That is no way to live.  Look at me.  I need my wife to be free.  I will do anything and everything I can  to make sure that happens, even if that means  I am a fugitive for the rest of my life.

Well…  I guess all I can do is offer you my guidance.

Wow. All you can do, really?  That seems to lie somewhere in between thoughts and prayers  and liking a post on Facebook. Quit your bitching. My God.  Just listen to me, all right?  [sighs]  Now, you said that you had someone working  on getting Gabi out, correct? Mm-hmm. A’ight.  And now you need to focus on what happens after. What the hell does that even mean? It means I have a grab-and-go kit  in the safe in case of emergencies. Okay, well, given your history,  I guess that tracks. Among other things,  there is a lot of money in there.  It’s yours for the taking.  More importantly, there is a manila envelope  with a contact sheet.  Now, it has names and numbers  of individuals who will help you- the both of you disappear without a trace.  [mysterious music] Just consider it a parting gift  for you and your beloved, hmm?

Wow. I…  Thank you.  It means the world to me. I wanted to go with Chanel, you know,  to provide some moral support.  But she thought she’d better talk to her mom,  just the two of ’em. Oh.  Are things still strained between the two of them? They are, yes.  Um…  look, Chanel and I, we understand  that Paulina was concerned for her daughter’s safety.  On the other hand, it was a completely reckless decision  to leave the hospital knowing that her condition  could put other people in danger. I understand.  But as a mother, I–  I also understand the desire to protect your child. Yeah, well, the irony is,  she not only put her own child’s life at risk,  but also her unborn grandchild’s. Yeah.  Very sad.  And I hope the two of them find their way back together. Mama, you didn’t ruin everything. Sure I did.  And I just hate the idea of you leaving  and things between us going so unresolved.  And I worry, Chanel, that the distance  will only drive us further apart. No, no, no, no. That is not gonna happen. But you don’t know that.  And, Chanel, my girl, I just–  I’m just so, so sorry.  And I know, I know, I know I keep saying that.  And I know–but, you know, words can’t change the fact  that I put other people’s health in jeopardy,  including yours and Johnny’s and that of that precious child  that you’re carrying.  Oh, if I could just turn back time,  I just should’ve made a different choice,  believe me, I would. And what, Mama? Huh?[sighs] If you hadn’t come to my rescue, then, yeah,  you know, maybe I would have been found and saved.  But, well, maybe not. [sniffles]I could be dead right now,  which means that my baby would be too. Yeah. Huh.  Well, I suppose that that–  well, that makes some sense.

So why not look at it from that angle?  Huh?  Is it possible that maybe  you made the right choice after all? Do you really mean that? Well, the doctor did say that at this stage  my baby is, uh- is looking–looking healthy.  And, um, well, while it’s still a little too early  to know for sure that nothing is wrong,  I have a really good feeling.  And–so I think that it is time  that you just stop beating yourself up.  And I also think that it’s time that I forgive you. Really? Really.[gasps]  Oh, my precious girl!  Oh, my darling girl.  [sobs]  [sweet music]I don’t–I don’t- I didn’t say Mommy is alive. Yes, you did.  I heard you. I-I-I think I know what Daddy meant.  Even though we know Abigail is in heaven, sweetheart,  she’s part of our lives every single day.  Because her memory is alive in our hearts.

Yeah, I guess so.

A little bedtime reading and he’s sound asleep. He is a wonderful boy, but inquisitive. Yeah, gets that from his mother.  I can’t believe it’s the anniversary of her death. Oh, honey.I know, it’s been two years. I can’t believe that. I know.  I miss her so much,  every minute of every day.  And, you know, if I’m honest, just that little spark  of hope that she might be alive has,  you know, grown into this giant flame.  And I don’t know what I’m gonna do  if this all turns out not to be true, Julie. Okay, okay.  I think I’ve reached my sentimentality quota  for the day. [laughs] Well, I haven’t, so I just need you to know that this…  I am eternally grateful to you, Kristen. As well as you should be.  Well, I am off to the office  to start kicking ass and taking names.  [laughs] So I guess this is goodbye. I guess it is, yeah.  I–I’m gonna miss having a ally in this house. We haven’t always been allies. Yeah.  You’re right about that.  I remember when I first met you. [laughs]Yeah.  I was running from the law, and I came to this house,  and, uh, I needed a place to hide.  And you didn’t know me from Adam,  and you still took me in because I was family. Until I eventually sold you out to Sami. [laughs] Yeah.  Double-crossing, backstabbing, it is the DiMera way. [chuckles] Well, it’s nice to have you on my side again. You can thank EJ for that. Oh, yeah.  Speaking of our charming brother,  he is gonna have a conniption when he finds out  who is replacing him at the company.  I imagine I’ll be hearing a lot  of new British expletives. [laughs] I’m sorry I’m gonna miss that. Oh, he is gonna be absolutely dreadful  for a while, angry and vindictive.  But I think in the end, when the dust clears, he’ll–  he’ll get that it was all for the best.  [gentle music]

Now I wouldn’t characterize this as an attack on Paulina.  I see this as the taxpaying citizens of Salem,  myself included, holding a public servant accountable.  So I’m sorry, Abraham, I can not honor your request. I should have known that appealing to your sense  of family loyalty wouldn’t work.  Let me leave you–  let me leave you with this one thing, EJ–  for you to try to get rid of an outstanding mayor  and human being out of spite…  Shows exactly what kind of man you are.

So Dr. Greene reassured you?

He did. Yeah, yeah.  He said that, uh, the baby’s heartbeat is very strong. [sighs]  I’m so happy for everybody. Yeah, yeah. It’s great.  Um…  you know, I gotta say, Grandma, if I’m being honest,  when we first found out there might be problems,  you know, that–that our baby could be born  with certain abnormalities,  I wasn’t sure if we should go through with the pregnancy.  But after today, I know that we made the right decision. I’m so glad to hear that.  And I am so excited about having a new grandbaby. Well, he or she is going to be very lucky  to have the best great-grandma anyone could ever ask for. Thanks. That’s very sweet.  And I will be here for you and for Chanel  and for this new baby.

Yeah, sure.  I understand that, of course, and I, you know,  I’m not gonna put any pressure on you to stay.  You know, you got your own life,  you know, and I want that.  I want that for you, yes.  But–well, please, well, you know,  you got to–can ask you one favor?

Yeah, of course. What is it?

Well, before you and Johnny hop on that plane, um,  could you- you got to let your mama throw you a going-away party.  You know, no, no, no, nothing crazy,  just a gathering of all the people in Salem who love you,  you know, so you can–you can always remember where home is. Mama, I can never forget that because my heart,  well, a part of it will always be right here with you.  [gentle music]

[cries] I swear I could throttle Clyde Weston  with my bare hands  for what he’s put you through emotionally.  It’s so cruel. Well, it’ll all be over soon. [sighs] Tomorrow we will go to Chicago.  We will walk into that bank  and we will open that safety deposit box.  And we will know, without a shadow of a doubt,  if our Abby is still alive.  [tense music]

She, uh–what,  she didn’t try to convince you to stay or– Oh, well, you know she did.  I mean, obviously, she’s sad that we’re leaving.  But she understands that it is what’s best for us. Yeah.  [light ambient music]

Well, I’m home.  Something wrong?  You’re not back on that- that damn website, are you? No, no, no, no, no, no, no.  It’s nothing like that, no.  [sighs]  Chanel dropped by.  And she and I, Abe, we had this amazing talk.  We made a breakthrough.  She forgave me.  [both laugh] That is wonderful.  I am so happy for you. And, wait, and that’s not all.  Abe, she told me she and Johnny are moving to Los Angeles. What? Why?

Johnny got a great job offer out there to work on a movie. Oh, wow.  I see, I see.  Well, you know what?  We can–we can always go out there to visit.  And they’ll be back here, I’m sure. Yeah, yeah, yeah.  And the important thing to remember is that she- she doesn’t hate me anymore, yeah. [laughs]

Anyway, yeah.  We’re back to being close again.

That is definitely the important thing.

Yeah.  So, oh, so you want to tell me what you were up to tonight?  [enigmatic music]I was, uh…  I was trying to get EJ to back off. Oh. We met.  We talked for a while.

And?

Sorry, Paulina.  EJ refuses to-to stop the recall.

Oh, that vindictive  silver spoon in the mouth,  son of a- [inhales deeply] Whoo.  But, you know–ooh, you know, I-I hope–no, no.  I know karma is gonna bite that man right  in the derriere.

Ah. EJ.  I’m glad I ran into you.  Listen, I know that you must be upset  that things didn’t go your way.  And I hope that there’s no hard feelings.  After all, we are family  and, uh, we should, uh, support one another. What in God’s name are you nattering on about? Oh.  Mr. Shin didn’t call you? About what? Oh dear.  Well, it appears that I’m the one  who’s gonna break the news.  [laughs]  Well… [clears throat]  Apparently you’re gonna need to update your résumé.

Wait.   You want to leave Salem and go where?

OK.   You know how I’ve been sending out my résumé for film jobs?

Yeah.  Well, I wasn’t expecting to hear anything back-  you know, my résumé being what it is.   And I certainly wasn’t expecting   to be offered a first AD job on a Peyton Russo movie.  What?Yeah.  Peyton Russo?   That’s only, like, your favorite director.  Yeah, one of my favorites, yeah.  Oh my god.   That’s amazing.  Yeah.  That’s, like, your dream job.  The only catch is I have to give   them an answer by tomorrow, and the job is in LA. Whoa.  Uh, I see.  Hmm.  They didn’t give you much time to think about it, did they? Actually, I’ve known about it for a couple of weeks. What?  And you’re just telling me now?  [tense music]

Yep.  Here I am. I got great news.  Got a new tenant for that vacant room upstairs. Oh. Who? Eric.  He was just here.  He agreed that he needs to move out  of that apartment he shared with Sloan and, uh, Jude.

That’s really good.  It is.  I know that you were still worried. Yeah.  And I know you’re still worried about Lucas.  Any word? My god.  I mean, I just don’t get it, because he contacted me.  He said he was with Harris out in the hinterlands,  searching for Clyde- [sighs] and then nothing, dead silence, which is  a really bad choice of words.

Hey, look.  I’m sure he is just-You’re sure he’s what, having brunch  with a-with an escaped felon?  [sighs] I-he told me not to worry, OK?  He said it was fine.  But I can’t help thinking that something  terrible has happened and I might never see him again.

Or he could walk through that door right now.

Mm.  Well, there’s something we agree on.  So- the FBI’s field office in Helena  has decided that Salem PD is going  to get the first crack at you. [scoffs] Lucky me. [chuckles]  Actually, you’ve run out of luck  because, uh, state-well, it’s adding a whole host  of new charges, like, um, drug dealing,  attempted murder, breaking out of Statesville.  And then once we’ve figured all that out,  we’re going to send you off to solitary confinement  in supermax, where you can finish up your already  exhaustively long sentence.  But first, I got a few questions for you,  starting with, um, what do you know about Li Shin’s murder?

What?  What was your plan up until right this second?  Were you just going to wait until you got on a flight  to LA and then tell me then? [sighs] Or-or were you going to turn the job  down and not tell me at all? Yeah, maybe. John Roman DiMera, do you think  you know what’s best for me?  For us? No!  That’s not it at all, OK?  There was just already so much going on, right?  With-with the baby, and everything with your mom,  all right?  I just-I didn’t want to add to your stress. No.  I’m sorry, Johnny, but that is a load of crap,  and you know it.

Oh my god.  [laughs] Oh, I was so worried about you.  You never answered my phone calls. Well, I was on a plane, you know.  And I was a little busy trying to capture  Clyde Weston and his henchwoman,  who’s in police custody, by the way, so… OK.  Well, that’s great.  I mean, that is just wonderful news.  I just wish that you had let me know, you know, with a message  or a text or something, because I kept on picturing  you dead in a ditch. I’m sorry you had to picture that, Mom,  but I had no choice.  The FBI wouldn’t let us do anything.  We had to keep everything on the DL  until Clyde was back here being processed in Salem. OK.  Well, come on, though.  It’s not like you were going to announce it on social media  or anything like that.  I mean, I’m your mother.  I think I deserve to know. Kate, he’s safe now. Yeah, there it is. The voice of reason.  My man. Thanks. OK. All right.  You’re right.  I’m going to just stay totally positive with this  because the truth is, you helped  Harris capture Clyde, which you said you were going to do.  So per the terms of the deal they offered you,  you’re now a free man, right? [sighs] Li Shin?  Li Shin.  No, that’s not ringing any bells. Oh, come on, Clyde.  You know damn well who Li is.  Gabi’s ex.  She was convicted for his murder.  Come on.  Acting like this is news to you.  You had the goons break my sister’s leg in prison.  Yeah.  Then you threatened her to within an inch of her life,  so you could persuade Stefan to do your damn bidding. Well, that’s quite a tale you’ve spun for  yourself, Commissioner.  What I heard is that she slipped in the shower.  That’s how she broke her leg.  And damn if I haven’t told those guards  times,  fix those slippery tiles.  I can picture it now–  you know, your sister in the shower.

[laughs] So you’re going to orchestrate  a prison break for Gabi, huh? That’s what I wanted you to help me  with in the first place, as you well know.  But you thought it would be easier to prove  that Gabi is innocent.Yeah.  Well, it should have been.OK.  As you also well know, DA Trask thinks that little black book  that we found, that we thought would be  enough evidence to exonerate Gabi-well,  she thinks that it isn’t.  And Rafe could string me along forever.  So I said, you know what? To hell with it all. OK. Hold on, hold on.  I thought Rafe said if-if Clyde Weston was captured,  that he might be able to corroborate  that his man Gil killed Li. Yeah.  Well, you know what?  That’s a pipe dream, Kristen.  Because even if Clyde is caught,  which is a big if, and even if he knows something about Li’s  murder, another big if, what makes you think he would  lift a finger to help me?  If he’s captured, I’m the reason he gets convicted.  So why all of a sudden would he decide  to have a change of heart and help Gabi get out of prison? So what, then?  You’re just going to tunnel her out? Figuratively speaking, yeah. Yeah?  And when is this great escape supposed to take place, hmm? It’s already in the works.  My guy says it could be done imminently.  And then Gabi and I will ride off into the sunset,  never to be seen or heard from again. Huh.  Yeah, right.  No, Stefan, I am afraid I can’t let this happen.  [tense music]

Chad, what did Clyde say? OK.  So I accused him of going to the mansion  that night with the sole purpose of killing Abigail.  He didn’t deny it. Oh.  [sighs] Well, we suspected it.  Now we know.There’s more. More? So he may have gone to the mansion that night  to kill Abigail.  But then in the end– But then what?

That’s-that’s really sweet, Johnny.  But if you wanted to turn the job down,  you would have done it already. [sighs] Yeah.  And part of me does want to turn it down. But? Part of me doesn’t.  I’m obviously conflicted, which is why you  need to make this decision.

I don’t know. You assume it’s a lie? Well, Lucas thinks so, yeah. Well, what the hell do you think? I don’t-I, um–  you know, I think that it probably is.  I do.  Oh, but, Julie, there’s a small part of me that–  that hopes that, um–  that it’s true.  Yeah. Darling. Yeah. [sighs] I didn’t even know your sister’s ex.  How should I know who killed him? Well, Li’s blood was found on your little black book. [chuckles] Well, surely you’re not  accusing me of murder.  I was incarcerated in November, as I’m sure you recall. Oh, right.  Yeah.  But your associate Gil, his bloody fingerprint  was also found on that little black book,  which was hidden at the Bistro,  where he ran your drug operation. Yeah.  But you see, Gil is dead.  Ava Vitali killed him.  Are you not keeping up on the crimes  committed in your jurisdiction, Commissioner? Oh, I am well aware of them.  Thank you.  But since I can’t talk to a dead man,  I figured I’d go right to the top–  to the boss.  So what did Gil tell you about the night  Li was murdered, hmm?  Any chance that, uh, you could corroborate his guilt? [sighs] Well,  let’s just say I could.  What’s in it for me?  [tense music]

You want me to make the decision for you  on your job offer?  Johnny, I just got through telling you we’re a team. Yeah, but I’d be uprooting you  from your life for my dream. [sighs] I mean, what if you’re miserable because of me? What, so I’m supposed to crush your dreams?  What if you’re miserable because of me?  [gentle music]  Look, Johnny.  I can bake cookies anywhere, OK?  They have flour and milk and chocolate chips in California  too, I assume.  And I mean, Sweet Bits LA, it sounds kind of nice,  don’t you think? Yeah, but– But nothing, OK?  And you know, getting a little further away from Mama  might not be such a bad thing.  So I say if you want the job, I think you should take it. Yeah.  The problem is, I don’t know if I want to take it  for reasons I can’t quite articulate. OK.  Well, try. You know, my-my whole life,  I wanted to be the next Fellini,  which sounds grandiose,  I know.  And it totally is, because I mean,  what have I actually ever done, you know?  A couple of Super  movies when I was a kid, some demo reels. OK.  So what?  Every great director started out as a dorky kid  with a little camera. Yeah, I know.  But when I actually tried to put something together  as an adult, my grandma’s life story, I mean,  the whole project went to hell, literally. Well, you know, maybe that’s what sets you apart.  I mean, how many directors can say  that the actual devil interfered  with the production? Yeah, I don’t know.  It-it honestly felt more like a sign, you know,  like I was dabbling in something  I wasn’t supposed to be. Oh, come on, Johnny. And what if I can’t cut it?  You know, Hollywood is cutthroat.  What if I’m just some spoiled rich kid  with some inflated notion of himself,  completely delusional and pathetic? Where is all this self-doubt coming from? I don’t know.  It’s just-how’d all this happen so fast, you know?  What if I’m not ready?  And now I have you and the baby to think about.  And it’s just, failing on my own, that’s one thing.  But I cannot drag you across the country  and fail all three of us.

I’m not going back to the monastery. OK.  Well, you just said that– You know what?  Clyde’s going to supermax.  He’s not going to Statesville.  So I’ll be safe if I have to go back to, you know– What, to-to prison?  Because at least the monastery isn’t– It’s not what, prison?  It’s pretty much the same thing, Mom.  I can’t stand that place, all right?  Just an old building with a bunch of guys in old uniforms.  And I’m not going to do it. They cut my hair.  Forget it.  It’s the same thing as being stuck in Statesville.

Oh, really?  How many murderers do you think are in the monastery, Lucas? I don’t know.  Brother Solomon, he seemed to be pretty shifty, that guy.

So you know, I am absolutely not laughing at that.

I have one year left on my sentence.  I might as well go back to Statesville,  like I was supposed to in the first place,  and just do my time, you know?  Might as well pay full price for what I did to Sami. [sighs] The thing is, is Abby- Abby came back to me once before, you know?  And then there’s Stefan.  I mean, his heart is beating in your chest,  and-and yet he’s alive and well, walking around.

Well, do you think it’s possible Dr. Rolf  saved Abigail? I don’t know.  I don’t know what to think, OK?  I just know that I can’t sit around here and wonder,  you know, what if?  It’s going to-it’s going to drive me crazy.  [sighs] I need to go to the station,  and I need to talk to Clyde.  And I need to figure out if there’s more.

OK.  But I need you to do me a favor.  Please don’t bring this up to Jack or Jennifer, OK?  I don’t want to get their hopes up if it’s-if it’s nothing,  you know?Of course.  I won’t say a word, darling.  I won’t. OK. Oh my god.  [exhales] You do remember cheating on your wife, don’t you? That was one time.  And I was very drunk.Oh.  Oh, drunk, OK.  Well, I guess it’s no big deal, then.  I’m sure that Gabi will be very forgiving  when she finds out that, uh,  you and Ava had been tying one on.  [tense music] Damn it, Kristen.  You said you would keep my secret. Well, yeah.  But that was then, and this is now.  And peacetime promises, well, they can be tenuous at best. Mm.  So are you declaring war? With you?  Mm.  No, of course not.  I’m at war with EJ.  Yeah, a cold war that is simmering to a boil.  So you need to decide which side you are on.  And let me just say this.  If, um, Gabi does find out what happened between you  and the ex-mafia princess, I am sure that she’d  prefer a Statesville cot to your marital bed.  So I think you really need to rethink your plan, brother.

I mean, you know I can’t make charges  like these just go away after everything you’ve done. Then why should I help you?Oh.  So you do know something. I didn’t say that–  not explicitly.  [tense music]  Tell me, why isn’t a bloody fingerprint on the book  enough to overturn Gabi’s conviction? That’s a good question. Well, that’s a damn shame.  Let’s just say Gil did tell me something.  Now, just to be clear, there would  have to be something in it for me in order for me  to testify to that.  And just so you know, I would graciously  accept anything you could do for me, even  outside the confines of the law.

OK. All right.  Well, thank you for the warning. And there’s-there’s also, what, Malibu,  Rodeo Drive, endless summer.  What’s not to love about LA?  Not to mention all those movie theaters with old-ass movies  and long, eight-hour cuts that nobody’s ever seen of movies  nobody’s ever heard of- and even longer Q&As afterwards.

Bottom line is, Harris Michaels promised results.  Lucas did his part, and I think it would be wrong  if Harris left him out to dry.

Chad gave me the impression that you  helped the police find Clyde.  Does that have something to do with  your special dispensation? I probably shouldn’t say too much, you know?

This reminds me of a  little yapping dog running  in circles around a predator. How could it be possible that my wife is still alive, Clyde?  Because that night  I found her in our bed  bleeding out,  barely able to whisper my name.

Aunt Marie, I’m just so worried about Maggie.  Well, I told her.  I told her not to trust that guy, but she wouldn’t listen.  [sighs] Yeah, the whole family could use some good news.  How true.  No.  No, I haven’t.  And I cannot understand how my grandparents could have put  together this time capsule and never  said a word about it to a single member of the family.  Yeah.  Well, let alone what’s inside.  [chuckles] No.  No, I’m determined.  Yes, I’m going to find out what’s in the time capsule  if it’s the last thing I do.  [laughs] [sighs] Well, I said my goodbyes to Julie.  So if you guys have an out-of-the-way place  for me to stay while I wait to hear from Harris,  I’d appreciate it. You don’t have to do that.  I pulled some strings with my ISA pals, tracked him down.  So I get to be the one to officially tell you both,  Harris just finalized the terms of your deal.  So, Lucas, for you being part of the capture  of the fugitive Clyde Weston, the remainder of your sentence  has been officially commuted.

Oh my god.  So that means–

Lucas, you’re a free man.

Oh, yes!

Oh my god.

Yes, yes, yes!  Finally. [laughs] Oh.  Oh. Look, Stefan.  I’m sorry, but my hands are tied here. Really?  So that’s it?  You’re just going to pack it in?  You’re not going to move heaven and Earth to help your sister? Look, I cannot do this, OK?  I cannot give up anything to Clyde Weston, OK?  I would be sacrificing the safety of everyone  in this town and beyond.  But maybe if you had an idea- [suspenseful music] What does that mean?

Several weeks after Mayor Price left the hospital   while undergoing radiation treatment, questions remain  about the health of those she exposed  on her ill-timed joyride. [gasps]  And now some members of the public  are beginning to ask questions about her fitness for office.  Questions indeed, Jude.  Well, your father knows the answer.  Paulina Price needs to step down as mayor,  or better yet, be forcibly removed.  [baby cooing]

Oh.  Oh.  Ooh. Paulina?  What–what is it? Oh, Abe.  Oh, I–  oh, I had a terrible nightmare.  Oh.

Sweetheart, do you want to talk about it? Was the radiation.  It turned me into this -foot-tall woman,  and I was just rampaging through the streets of Salem.  People were just running away and screaming  like I was this horrible monster.  And I tore the roof off of Sweet Bits  and poured Chanel’s whole inventory down my gullet.

Oh, my.

And the worst part of it,  that wasn’t the first time I had the dream.

Well, how many times have you had it? Oh, just about every night since I left the hospital.  And now it’s happening in the daytime too. Well, big problems call for big solutions.  This sounds like a job for Dr. Marlena Evans.

So I mean, this producer basically offered me  a job at his company.  Only, if I take it– You’d have to move to Los Angeles. Yeah. Like, now. Wow.  I–I didn’t even know you were considering this. Yeah, that’s the thing. Chanel doesn’t know either.

You haven’t told her? Not yet. May I ask why? It–it’s just–  that would be asking Chanel to leave her business,  OK, her family, her home.  It just doesn’t seem like a fair thing to ask somebody. Are you considering turning down the job  without even discussing it with her? Look, as great as this whole thing sounds, it’s just, I–  I don’t want Chanel to feel like I’m asking her  to make this sacrifice for me.  And–and with the baby on the way and all the health issues  she’s–she’s just dealt with, it’s just–  it’s a–it’s a lot. Mm-hmm.  How do you think she’s going to feel  if she finds out you turned down the job  and never mentioned it?

But maybe–maybe she wouldn’t think of it as a sacrifice.  Maybe–maybe she might even want  to make a sacrifice like that. Yeah.  Yeah, you’re right. Yeah.  It was shocking to see EJ just lying there after Sloan  hit him in the back of the head. Yeah, under normal circumstances,  that would be a welcome sight. Not this time. No, I still can’t believe it.  That Sloan just helped herself to EJ and Nicole’s baby.  I mean, how do you come up with something that insane? Desperate people do desperate things. Yeah. Again, son, I’m so sorry.  I–I know how much you love that little guy. Dad, he was my son.  And I lost him.  Dad, I’ve never felt pain like this. Hello, Chanel.  I was just reading some of the day’s news to my son. Yeah, and getting a huge kick out of it.  Apparently, you feel the same way about my mom  as “The Spectator” does. It’s true.  I want your mother out as Salem’s mayor,  but only because I am outraged on your behalf. My behalf? You’re my daughter-in-law.  And Paulina recklessly exposed you and my unborn grandchild  to dangerous levels of radiation.  Aren’t you furious yourself? OK, well, I’m not exactly happy about it.  But at the same time, I don’t completely  blame my mother for it. Who else would you blame? She didn’t even know that I was pregnant.  And when she left the hospital, she did it because  she was trying to save my life.  My mother would never do anything  to intentionally harm me, or my baby,  or put us in danger. While I admire your mother’s resolve,  I believe it showed a serious lack of judgment.  And her dangerous actions need to be answered for. She needs to answer for what she did to me  or for what she did to you? Me. She fired you as DA.  So is this really about protecting your grandchild  or is this about you trying to get payback?

All right, there you go. Oh.  You know I’m always happy to talk to Marlena,  but I’ll pass for now. So you don’t want me to schedule something? I mean, you don’t exactly have to be Dr. Freud  or even Dr. Evans to figure out why I’m dreaming about  destroying the whole town. You’re feeling guilty. Heck yes I’m feeling guilty.  I exposed my pregnant daughter to radiation,  and Julie and Johnny too. Well, you didn’t want to do that. Tell that to them. You know, after their tests, including Chanel and the baby,  it–it came back fine. For now.  But that doesn’t stop me from worrying.  Oh, what–what if it takes time to show up?  And what if-what if it gets worse  and there’s something really wrong? Kayla didn’t say that she was worried about that, did she? No, but there’s always a possibility.  I radiated my daughter.  And on top of that, Chanel and I aren’t in the best place  right now. Well, you two have been through rough patches before.

We have.  But if it turns out that something happened  to her and her baby because of me,  I don’t know if I could ever forgive myself. What happened between your mother and me  was just business. And you didn’t take it personally? My only concern is you and the child. Well, me and the baby are doing just fine. Are you sure? Johnny and I have a follow-up appointment today,  and according to my latest test results, everything is fine.  And the radiation hasn’t affected the baby. Well, I certainly hope that’s true.  Because if there is any cause for concern,  there are still options at this stage. Yes, I am well aware of the options, OK?  But I am having this baby.  It is what Johnny and I both want. Well, I’m glad to hear that. Are you? Of course.  I couldn’t be more excited with this addition to the family.  And this little guy cannot wait to become an uncle.  Eh? Uncle Jude, huh? [laughs] Yes, well, that’s the name Eric gave him. Are you thinking about changing it? It’s certainly within my rights.

I hope I wasn’t too defensive with Chanel  about being your father.  [baby cooing]  But I just want the world to know that you are mine  now and forever.  However, there is such a thing as protesting too much.  [baby cooing]  But I have nothing to prove.  With Sloan gone and Melinda Trask sworn to secrecy,  no one will ever know the truth about your paternity,  especially Nicole.  Because if she or Eric found out,  I would certainly lose you.  And I would surely lose Nicole to Eric.

I’m handsome.  I’m tall.  OK, I’m on the shorter side, but I have a nice physique.  I’m very smart.  Although my math SATs, that was embarrassing.  But look, my point is, I have a lot going for me, right? Yes, you do.  [soft music]

Um…  Well, the last time I went to see my mother in Statesville,  she offered me a cigarette and then berated me  for not being a smoker.  Then she told me I was a worthless human being  who she was embarrassed to call her son. Diana Colville is a very disturbed woman.  And if that’s the woman that raised you,  then I can understand that you have  a certain lack of self-esteem. [scoffs] Lack of self-esteem?  Dr. Evans, have you met me?  I am one of the most, if not the most  fabulous person I know.  I love me some Leo. Well, I–  maybe I’m insecure about what other people think about me,  not what I think about myself, if that makes any sense.  Like, I’m worried I’m going to make a bad impression.

Mm.  I guess I’m feeling confused because you just declared  that you are fabulous, and- and in kind of a, you know, a bragging sort of way.  And that sounds to me like a defense mechanism. Defense mechanism.Yeah. Yeah, I read about that in my favorite self-help book  “Stop Kvetching and Get A Life.” I haven’t read that.It’s out of print.  I got it on eBay.Oh. So are you saying that  I’m not as fabulous as I think I am? I’m saying that I think  you don’t think you’re as fabulous as you say you are. Oh.  Oh. It’s only–only a thought. Wow.  You are good, doc.Don’t call me doc. Right. OK. Dr. Evans.  I have to admit, I find you somewhat intimidating,  but also very self-assured and drop dead gorgeous.  And you have incredible posture.  Also, I think it’s safe to say  you are a world-class shrink with a very big heart  and a great sense of humor. Leo, I think you have a very big heart.  And I think you’re very funny. [laughs] Really?  You think I’m funny? I think you are hilarious. [laughs] Well, thank you.  That is–that is very flattering.  I’m also tortured  and miserable, like, % of the time.  [somber music]  Do you think there’s any help for me?

Wait, publication divorce. I’ve never heard of that. It’s a means to securing a divorce  where one of the parties can’t be located.  We simply put a notice in “The Spectator” once a week.  If after a few weeks Sloan doesn’t respond,  we can go ahead with the legal proceedings. That’s all there is to it, just a notice in the paper? We’ll have to make sure you have put in  a good faith effort to find her  using whatever is within your means.  But since the police already put out an APB,  I say that’ll cover our bases. So a few weeks?Mm-hmm.  In a few weeks, we’ll go to court,  and your marriage will be over.

Didn’t realize it would be this simple.  Thank you.

Oh, don’t thank me yet.  You haven’t seen my bill.

I haven’t figured that out yet.

There is one caveat.  If I’m willing to help you,  you have to be willing to do the work. Oh, I hate work. You’ll have to get over that part.  Because if you don’t put the work in on this,  you won’t make any progress.  That means you’ll be wasting your time,  and you’ll be wasting my time.  And I do not like people wasting my time. I’ll bet in this crazy town, you’ve got a line of nuts  around the block waiting for your services. We don’t say crazy, or nuts. What about mashugana?Or that. Got it. Oh, I assume you’re here about Everett.  [sighs] I’m wondering how he’s doing.   Have you heard from him?  Well, actually, I was just with him.  Oh, so great.   That means the intervention worked.   At least it got him here, anyway.   How is he?   [dramatic music]   [country music playing]  You know, it was so strange to see   Everett morph into Bobby right before my eyes.   To be perfectly honest, I have never seen that in real life,   only on TV.  Yeah, listen, I get it,   but DID is a real mental illness.   In fact, our niece Abigail suffered from it,   and so did my sister Kimberly.Mm. She even wrote a book,  “Becoming One: My Journey to Wholeness.” Hmm.  I may need to read that. Well, it’s out of print now, but I’m sure I have a copy  that I could loan you. Thank you. No, I understand.  I just– You just what? I feel so guilty. Why would you feel guilty? Well, because when I first found out  about Everett’s double life, I was–  I was so angry with him.  And now that I know none of it was his fault,  all I want to do is help him. You have helped him.  Jada has too.  You did the intervention. I’m–I’m-I’m beginning to think  that we made things worse. Why would you think that?

Well, you said it before.  Bobby could just keep in control for good. [sighs]  Listen.  When your cousin Abigail went through this,  things got very bleak for her, and- and then at one point, I don’t know,  the personalities integrated  and she was back to being herself again. Right, well, Abigail had Chad by her side.  Everett has no one. That’s not true.  He’s got you. [elevator bell dings]  He’s got Jada. Hey, Doc.John, what in the world-Our plan to bring down Konstantin  didn’t go as we had hoped here.  Things got a little bit sideways.  Honey, your father was a part of this,  and I’m afraid that he was injured. What? Oh, my God. What-No, no, he wasn’t- he was shot in the side.  No major organs were hit.  Sarah was right there for immediate attention.  I rode with him in the ambulance,  and he made bad dad jokes the whole way here. Where is he now? He’s in four, trauma room four.  [tense music]

Steve’s been transported.  John went with him.  I just–I want to hear your voice  and know that you’re all right.  I checked on Victoria, and luckily she’s fast asleep,  but I know that she’s gonna want to see her daddy  when she wakes up.  [sighs] [sighs] Well, we should probably let everyone know  that Theresa’s OK. [sighs]  No reason to stay here any longer,  and sending this lavvy heid to his reward  has given me a bit of an appetite.  Hope no one finished all the crab rangoon.  [sighs] Sarah called me.  She must be worried. I better go. I’m afraid I need everyone to stick around for a moment,  especially if that’s what I think it is.

Tell me everything from the beginning.

Someone?  Anyone? OK, hey,  here’s the story.  Maggie told Konstantin that she would marry him  in order for him to stay in the country,  but that was before she knew his true intentions.  The fact is, this is a very bad man.  He was going to kill Maggie.  He also sabotaged my grandfather’s plane.

You’re telling me that Meleounis killed Victor? That’s what he admitted to, yeah. All the guests can attest to his confession. And then he attempted to escape  by using Theresa as a hostage. He opened fire on our way out,  and he shot my Uncle Steve. I managed to catch up with them over here.  So did Brady with his dad’s gun,  which is right there. Yeah, let’s just…  cut to the chase, shall we?  Sarah’s waiting.  There was a standoff when I arrived.  I sized up the situation, grabbed the gun off Brady,  used it to shoot Konstantin,  who had just confessed to killing my uncle  and kidnapping my child.  And when I pulled the trigger,  he was strangling her, so I had to shoot. Except…  moments before Xander shot the gun,  he showed little or no regard for Theresa’s safety. Brady is right.  I tried to point out the fact  that he was putting Theresa’s life in danger,  and his exact words were, “I don’t care.”

You ungrateful twits!  I just saved Theresa’s life, and instead of being grateful,  you’re trying to get me arrested? We’re trying to set the record straight. Theresa, will you please tell Detective Hunter  what really happened?  [tense music] It’s true.  He–Konstantin did choke me. Thank you. But it’s also true that Xander  refused to put down the gun  even though Konstantin doubled down  on his threat to kill me. I was all you had.  These two were busy trying to prove  who could be more useless,  and Konstantin was bluffing anyway. You don’t know that. [phone beeps] Yes, I did.No, you don’t. Yes, I did!No, you don’t! OK, enough. It’s my father.  I’m gonna let him know that Theresa’s OK. Yeah, be sure to tell him it’s all thanks to me, yeah?

Brady says that Theresa’s safe. Good.  And did Konstantin get away? He’s dead.  Xander shot him. Oh.  Well, I–I can’t say that I’m upset about that.  I mean, he was the one that brought down Victor’s plane. Yeah, and Maggie would have been the next victim  if he had gotten his way. It’s just all so ghastly.  At least he can’t hurt anybody anymore,  and his reign of terror is now over.  [mysterious music] Not quite, Doc.

[sighs] So Maggie’s groom,  he’s the one who shot you? Konstantin, yeah.  He knew the jig was up,  so he started firing wildly, trying to get away. Yet you’re the only one who got hit. I was too slow.  Maybe I shouldn’t have skipped that second cup of coffee  this morning. Well, you always suspected that he had ulterior motives. Yeah, and I hate to say this,  but he was planning to kill Maggie  so that he could inherit her half of Victor’s fortune. Oh, my God.  Is she OK? Yeah, physically, she’s fine.  Emotionally, I don’t-I don’t know. You know, can we just wait a second?  Can you just back it up and tell me what happened? [sighs]  [dramatic music]  It was pretty bad,  worse than any of us thought.  Not only was Konstantin willing to kill Maggie  so he could get her money,  but he confessed to sabotaging Victor’s plane in Greece.  He’s the reason Victor’s dead. Oh, dear God.  Poor Maggie. Does Alex know? Yeah, he was–he was there  when Konstantin confessed to it. Where is Konstantin now? [phone beeps] Oh, sorry, sorry, sorry. [sighs] Oh, it’s a text from Jada.  She said, “Don’t worry. Theresa’s OK.” Oh, that’s good. Good. Why wouldn’t she be?  What happened to her?

I was getting to that.  When everything blew up, Konstantin took her hostage. What? Yeah, we–we–we thought  we had everything under control,  but unfortunately,  our plan just went off the rails. And what plan was that?

I think I’ve got everything I need.  Coroner’s on the way.

Can we go back to the house now? I sure would like some distance from…  that dead body. It’s fine. You can go. About damn time. I meant the others.  I need you to come with me to the station. Why?

You killed a man.

Were you not listening?  It was totally justified. Oh, you could have just shot him in the arm, the leg. I panicked. Whatever the case, I need you to come with me.  I got to take an official statement from you.  Let’s go. [sighs]  Thanks for backing me up.

Stephanie, would you mind giving  your father and me a moment?[sighs] Whatever’s going on here, can’t it wait? You know, Little Sweetness,  I think I owe your mom an explanation.  So…  hey, maybe you can go down to the cafeteria  and get me one of those double fudge brownies,  the one with nuts? Sure. OK. Mom, please go easy on him. I make no promises. Here you go. Oh.In case things get dicey. Yeah, well, I don’t think this is gonna  do me any good because, you know,  all those nurses out there, they’re in your mom’s pocket. Oh.If I press this button,  I’m just asking for more trouble. Well, guess you’re on your own, then. Yeah.[chuckles] Thanks, baby girl.  [sighs]  Now, listen.[sighs] You knew there was something I was keeping from you  concerning Maggie. Which I was not happy about, as you well know.  And you also promised that everything would work out.  You didn’t say that people’s lives would be at stake. Wasn’t supposed to go down like this. Oh, what, gunshots  and my niece being taken hostage?  Well, I should hope not.  So why don’t you tell me,  how was it supposed to go down?  [dramatic music] Konstantin…  held up this card and ordered me to shoot Steve,  but it didn’t have any effect on me.  I was able to resist his suggestion completely. Then our deep programming is working. Well, yes and no…  [tense music]  Because after all the chaos, there was a moment when I–

I looked over and I saw this card on the floor,  and I was–  I was drawn to it, and all I could hear  was Konstantin’s orders  pounding in my ears all over again.

And then I picked up Steve’s gun.

And?I pointed it at him. [gasps] Sarah was busy. She was tending to his wound.  She really needed me.  But that damn voice, it was fighting me for control. Dear God. But luckily Kayla called Steve,  and there must have been something  about the ringing of that phone  that just snapped me out of it.  But what if it hadn’t?

Well, you weren’t completely blacked out.  John, you never would hurt Steve.  But we do have to work on getting you out  from under Konstantin’s spell. Oh, Doc, you know that I trust you %,  but what if it’s not enough?  What if–  what if I’m still just a ticking time bomb?

Hey, are you sure you’re OK?Yeah. I can take you to the hospital,  maybe get you checked out if you want. No, no.  Honestly, I’m fine.  My neck’s just a little sore.

Yeah.  Lift your hair. [sighs] It’s cold. Ready? Ah. Is that better? Yeah.  [both sigh]  I’m surprised you’re being so nice to me  after this morning.

Oh, yeah.  You’re talking about when you practically  kicked me out of bed  just to make room for Alex about a minute later, right?  Yeah.

Brady, I know I was insensitive.  I’m so sorry if I hurt you. Theresa, thank you, but…  [dramatic music]  You’re the mother of my boy,  and although you make me crazy- you really do sometimes- I’m still gonna care about you.

[sighs] Maggie’s still sleeping,  but I told Bonnie and my–  Justin what happened.  Did I miss anything? No, Brady was just getting me all settled. Nice.  Well, now that I’m back here…  [groans] I can take over. [sighs] In other words, beat it.

OK, I’ll get this typed up for you to sign. And then I can go, right? These things take time.  I still have to run all of this by the DA.  [door clicks open] Baby, hey, I just got your message.  I came as soon as I could. I’ll let you two catch up. Hey, where’s Victoria? She’s with Bonnie.Mm. Is it true?  Did you shoot Konstantin? Yeah, and the bastard’s dead.  Don’t have to worry about that dirtbag anymore, Sarah. The police aren’t gonna press charges, are they? Well, that remains to be seen.  [sighs]  There’s a question as to whether I shot Konstantin  to protect Theresa or out of…  revenge.

[dramatic music] When I arrived on the scene,  there wasn’t any time to think.  There was so much tension and chaos.  And when Konstantin started strangling Theresa,  I just…reacted.  I mean, honestly, I can’t even tell you  what was going through my head at the time.  But I can tell you this now:  I’m not at all sorry that I shot the bastard.  After what he did to Victoria, to Maggie, to Uncle Vic,  he got what he deserved.

I just wish you didn’t have to be the one  to pull the trigger. Well, I’ll face any consequences  that come my way.  I do have one regret, though. What is it? Well, Konstantin kicked the bucket  before he could tell me who helped him  kidnap Victoria that day.  Whoever that was, they need to pay as well.

Alex, Brady was-he was just– No, no, it’s all right.  It’s OK.  Alex, I know you’re in a committed relationship  with Theresa, but she’s not your personal property.

No, she is not my property.  But I am her boyfriend,  and I do know how to take care of her.

I would not admit this to Xander,  but I think he did…  us all a favor by ridding the world  of Konstantin Meleounis.  In some ways, I wish I was the one who killed him…  and not just for what he did by taking you hostage  but for what he did to my father. He was an evil man.

So the plan was to frame Konstantin for embezzling? Yeah, and no one was supposed to get hurt. Oh, come on, you had to have known  that this guy wasn’t gonna go easily,  especially if he was just technically innocent. Well…  I think the monkey wrench was that–that confession,  because it shocked everyone.  He took advantage of that. So you and John put Maggie in danger. She was already in danger.  And for what it’s worth, it was her idea. OK, OK, OK, you know what?  I just wish you would have given me the heads-up  to know that you were walking into a high-risk situation. You mean like a Bat-Signal type of thing? [sighs]  ‘Cause you just left me in the dark again. So no Bat-Signal? You know, just an FYI that your charms  don’t always work out for you the way you think they do, OK? Baby, I just didn’t want you involved. But you said that John told Marlena. Well, that was his choice. [sighs]And I’m sorry.  I’m sorry that you’re upset, but I just felt  it was better to keep you out of it. We just had that argument,  how you make decisions for us without consulting me,  like when you were gonna go to Montana to catch Clyde  or when you and John broke him out of Statesville.  We are supposed to be partners,  but you don’t treat me like a partner.  And you know what?  That has got to change,  because I cannot tolerate being kept in the dark  about what’s going on with you, no matter what the hell it is.  Do you understand me?
