Chanel: That was quite a kiss.

Johnny: Well, that was my way of saying thank you for convincing my sister to do the movie.

Chanel: Allie and i are best friends. So she usually takes my advice.

Johnny: Which was a big help for me in this case. Can I ask you for one more thing?

Chanel: Well, it depends on what that thing is.

Johnny: I’ve got a lot more parts to cast. How would you feel about playing one of them?

John: “Possessed: The marlena evans story”? Did you know about this?

Roman: No, I didn’T. I put my money in this thing because your brother told me he wanted to make a movie about your mom. Now it’s all about marlena’s possession?

Allie: I’m sorry, grandpa. I just assume johnny told you.

John: I can’t even believe this.

Allie: He thought that this movie would make more of a– you know…

Roman: Yeah, moneymaker.

Allie: I mean, you have to admit it it’s pretty exciting. It’s not every day that somebody gets possessed by the devil.

Marlena: What are you talking about? What kind of plans do you have for ben’s baby?

Demon marlena: I don’t wanna spoil the surprise. Let’s just say it is imperative that ben weston and ciara brady conceive a child.

Marlena: Well, he doesn’t agree, and I’m not sure that I convinced him to change his mind.

Demon marlena: Don’t underestimate yourself, dr. Evans. Ben weston always listens to you. He takes your words to heart. And soon I’m going to get what I’ve been wanting for so long.

Ciara: How did it go with marlena? Did you talk to her about us starting a family?

Ben: Actually, yes, I did.

Ciara: You did? Well, did it make you feel any better?

Ben: It did.

Ciara: Wait, it did?

Ben: Mm-hmm.

Ciara: So does that mean–

Ben: If you wanna have this baby, let’s have a baby.

Ciara: Are you serious?

Ben: I know how important this is to you, and that makes it important to me. So let’s do this. Let’s make a baby.

Ciara: Oh, my god.

Chanel: So you really want me to be in your movie?

Johnny: Yeah, I do. I have a feeling that the camera would love you.

Chanel: Well, I have been told I take a great picture.

Johnny: Is that a yes?

Ciara: And I’ve always thought acting sounded like fun.

Johnny: Oh, so it is a yes.

Ciara: When I was little, I used to pretend to be those twins on “sister, sister,” and I would make my mama be the mom. She recorded a bunch of videos. She probably still has them.

Johnny: Well, if she does, I would love to see them.

Ciara: So if I did say yes to being in your movie, what role would I play? And if you say the devil I’m punching you in the face.

Johnny: No, you’re not the devil. I actually think I have the perfect role for you.

John: [Scoffs] No way this is gonna happen. He’s not gonna make this movie. Kiddo, did I not ask you to talk to your brother? Did I not practically beg you to convince him to stay away from this part of your grandmother’s life?

Allie: I did talk to him. I swear. But he is stubborn and he says that this is the movie he has to make. I mean, I don’t think anything is gonna stop him.

John: No, I just thought of one thing that can.

Marlena: I don’t understand. What makes ben and ciara’s child so special to you?

Demon marlena: Do I really have to spell it out? The child would inherit the genetics of a serial killer, a man who murdered three women. Young weston was right to be worried about passing on his dark, twisted legacy to his child. That’s where I need you.

Marlena: There’s no such thing as a serial killer gene.

Demon marlena: But as a psychiatrist, you must know that certain genes if nurtured in the proper environment, can result in psychopathic behavior. Weston himself had a sadistic father and a weak mother.

Marlena: Ben and ciara are not those parents.

Demon marlena: Just leave that part to me. That child could turn into the perfect instrument of evil.

Marlena: You don’t know ben the way I know him. He despises what he’s done. And he is not inherently evil.

Demon marlena: But the capacity for evil still resides in him as it would in his child.

Ciara: Oh, my god, I can’t believe this. Ben, you really want us to have a baby? You want that now?

Ben: I do.

Ciara: Oh, my god. Oh, my god, ben this is just– god, you made me so happy.

Ben: Oh, my god. I can see that.

Ciara: What did marlena say to change your mind?

Ben: Well, first of all, she said that half of our baby’s gene pool will be from your side, thank god. And since you are the best, strongest, most beautiful person I’ve ever met, I can’t be afraid of what’s happening on my side of things. And it’s not–I can’t let it stop us from having a baby. Like I said, it is important to me too for us to be parents. I wanna have a baby with you.

Ciara: Really?

Ben: Really.

Ciara: Oh, my god. Oh, my god, ben, I love you so much.

Abigail: Love-making has never really been an issue for us.

Chad: No, it hasn’T.

Abigail: However, you still have a lot of issues to work out, and I don’t wanna cloud that by being intimate too soon.

Chad: This–this kiss. It’s just–it’s pretend. It’s john and marlena kissing. Doesn’t have to mean a thing to–to chad and abigail.

Abigail: Oh, well, thank you very much for explaining that, mr. Stanislavsky.

Chad: I’m being– I’m being serious. Look, you don’t have to worry about me turning this into something that it’s– it’s– it’s not, all right? We’ll kiss, and then we’ll go upstairs. Well–we’ll sleep in separate bedrooms. That is unless you–you find me too–too irresistible.

Abigail: Suddenly, I don’t think that’s gonna to be very much of an issue.

Chad: No?

Abigail: No. Where were we?

Chad: Okay, all right. Okay. Do you really want me to go, doc?

Ej: Well, well. What have we here?

Johnny: So I was thinking you could play celeste perrault.

Chanel: Oh, interesting name. Tell me about her.

Johnny: She was my grandfather’s henchwoman.

Chanel: Oh, so she did his dirty work.

Johnny: Some of it, yeah. She was also his lover.

Chanel: And how does she fit into the story?

Johnny: Well, she was a psychic too. She was the first person who sensed that the devil was in salem.

Chanel: Oh, so she’s like the hero of the movie?

Johnny: She should be, yeah. But when she tried to warn everyone, nobody believed her.

Chanel: Why is that?

Johnny: Oh, you know how some people are about psychics.

Chanel: So what makes you think that I’d be the perfect celeste? Wait, is she black?

Johnny: Uh, well, yeah, yeah. Now that I–I guess she is. Now that I think about it, yeah.

Chanel: You–you guess?

Johnny: No, I mean she–she was–she is, yes, but that’s not why I thought of you. I mean, she’s–she’s strong, you know. She’s–she’s a woman doing a man’s job. She’s wise.

Chanel: Uh-huh.

Johnny: She’s beautiful.

Chanel: Uh-huh.

Johnny: And you have a connection to her.

Chanel: What connection?

Johnny: She–celeste is the mother of my aunt lexie, who is the mother of theo. Theo carver, the guy you dated.

Chanel: Wait, so let me get this straight. You want me to play my old boyfriend’s big mama?

Allie: How can you stop johnny?

John: Easy. You see your brother never bothered to get the rights to marlena’s story.

Allie: But he said that she encouraged him to make the movie.

Roman: Well, I’m sure she said that, because she didn’t know the movie was about her. Same as me.

John: Yeah, I’ll just talk to marlena, and I’m sure she will stop johnny from doing this.

Roman: Yeah, if she wants to shut it down, I do believe the law is on her side.

John: That’s a fact. I’m gonna head over to her office right now. She has one appointment with ben weston. But I’m sure she’s alone.

Ciara: Here you go.

Ben: Thank you, love.

Ciara: So this dream you told marlena about.

Ben: I had it in new orleans. I dreamed that we had a son. We came home, and we discovered that he killed his babysitter with a necktie.

Ciara: And you didn’t think to tell me about this?

Ben: Baby, we were on our honeymoon.

Ciara: Yeah, but, baby, i would have reassured you that it was all good.

Ben: I did not want you to have to reassure me. I didn’t wanna burden you. Like I said, we were on our honeymoon, and dr. Evans reassured me today. She’s not even sure if the illness that I had is actually hereditary. You know, and if god forbid there’s the chance that our kid does inherit that, there’s treatment.

Ciara: Mm-hmm, like you had.

Ben: Right.

Ciara: Right.

Ben: It doesn’t mean that we can’t not look for signs, you know. We can’t kid ourselves, but–

Ciara: No, we will not.

Ben: No.

Ciara: No.

Ben: And I’m still not a 100% gung ho, but I know that I can certainly live with my fears, especially if it means that you and i can start a family together.

Ciara: Sounds like marlena gave you some really good advice.

Ben: She did give me good advice.

Ciara: Mm-hmm.

Ben: She was a little different, though.

Ciara: How so?

Ben: Usually, she doesn’t tell me what to do. She lets me make my own decisions for myself, but today she made it seem like I would be making this huge mistake if I decided to never have kids. Like, she really wanted me to listen to her. It was almost like…

Ciara: Almost like what?

Ben: Like she had a personal stake in us having a baby.

Ciara: Hmm.

Marlena: Even if ben and ciara’s child were predisposed to evil behavior, it doesn’t mean that behavior would ever surface.

Demon marlena: Must you be such a doomsayer?

Marlena: Look, ben and ciara would be kind and loving parents, and–and they would–they would raise their child in a loving and safe environment.

Demon marlena: But there are cases where biology is destiny. Ben weston was conditioned by clyde weston to become the necktie killer. Even though that need in him was dormant for years and years, he couldn’t escape the evil that clyde had planted inside him. And clyde himself is the product of generations of evildoers. I chose ben very carefully.

Marlena: But ciara would be the mother, and she is a product of–of two loving and caring families, the bradys and the hortons.

Demon marlena: I never said it wouldn’t be a struggle but the struggle is what makes this all so perfect.

Abigail: Actually, chad was just helping me run lines for a scene from your son’s movie. We were–we were pretending to be john and marlena.

Ej: Hmm, it’s not enough to provide funding for johnny’s little project?

Chad: I was helping my wife with her lines. It’s called being a supportive husband.

Abigail: Yeah, and since the role of john hasn’t really been cast yet…

Chad: Oh, no. You know what? That’s right. Maybe I should audition for it. It’d be a–a real kick to act with my wife in my nephew’s movie.

Johnny: Chanel, listen to me.

Chanel: I’ve heard enough. You want me to play theo’s granny?

Johnny: Whoa, you’d be playing her as a young woman, not as a granny. I mean, if–if you have a problem with it, you could always play the part of her daughter. It’s a smaller role, but aunt lexie was the doctor who took care of my grandmother in the hospital.

Chanel: So my only options are to play theo’s mama or his big mama.

Johnny: Allie’s playing our mother. I mean, it’s not that strange.

Chanel: I’m pretty sure theo carver would think it was strange.

Johnny: So you’re turning me down.

Chanel: I’m gonna have to think about it.

Ciara: Baby, I know it wasn’t easy for you to change your mind, and I know you did it mostly for me. So I have to ask you if you’re sure that this is what you really want, because as much as I want to have a baby with you, I–I don’t want you to do this if you think you have to because you owe me or something.

Ben: Do you know how much I love you?

Ciara: Yes.

Ben: If I wasn’t scared of what my genes might do to our baby, I would have been on board with this from the start. I’m not doing it because you want it or just because you want it. Dr. Evans made me feel a whole lot better about this whole idea. I cannot wait to make a baby with you.

Ciara: I can’t wait either. So should we take the first step? Because I’m not gonna be needing these anymore.

Ben: Go for it.

Demon marlena: Don’t you see? Ben and ciara’s bloodlines are the perfect combination. Their progeny will have enormous potential for evil and also a pure and innocent soul, one that could be easily corrupted. It’s going to be wonderful. It’s exactly what I have been wanting for so long.

Marlena: What does that mean?

Demon marlena: You don’t need to trouble yourself with that–

Marlena: But I do. You forced me to persuade ben to have this child. Now you’re telling me that you’ve had plans for this child right along?

Demon marlena: When you risked your professional reputation to have ben released from the sanitarium, and of all the psychiatrists in the world he became your patient, it was as if the stars suddenly aligned. It was glorious.

Marlena: I will not allow you to use ben.

Demon marlena: What are you doing?

Marlena: What I have to do. I’m gonna warn him.

Demon marlena: You will do no such thing.

Marlena: You try and stop me.

[Knock at door]

John: Doc, you busy?

Marlena: Come in.

John: Whoa. You’re alone. I could have sworn I heard another voice. Now, we all know progressive offers 24/7 protection,

Ej: It’s your favorite pastime, isn’t it, getting under my skin?

Chad: Okay. You–you think that everything is about you? Look, I mean, playing a married couple with problems could be good for us.

Abigail: I never thought of it that way.

Ej: And when will you do your job, the one where you run an international corporation?

Chad: I can do both.

Ej: Oh, really? We’re supposed to be sharing the position of ceo. But the only one working long hours is me. Chad: I can’t help if I’m better at time management than you are.

Ej: That’s your assessment. Mine is that you are simply not pulling your weight. And once I express that concern to shin, I think he will agree with me.

Johnny: Chanel, please. I really want you to play the part of celeste. You’d really be great.

Chanel: Well, then you should stop playing director for a little while and do some more of that wooing.

Johnny: I left my guitar back in my bedroom, but we could go back there and I don’t know.

Chanel: Is that where you keep your casting couch?

Johnny: You are really giving me a hard time tonight.

Chanel: Yeah, it’s good for you. You’ll thank me later. But I wouldn’t be opposed to you taking me to dinner.

Johnny: Well, my father has cut me off financially, as you know, but we could go to the pub. I’m sure I could talk my grandpa into giving us a free meal.

Chanel: You really think you can just charm your way through this world, don’t you?

Johnny: Well, yeah. ‘Cause I usually can. You coming?

John: Thought you still might be in your session with ben. Were you talking with him on the phone?

Marlena: No, I–I recorded our session, and I was listening to it.

John: And how did it go?

Marlena: Well, for some reason I–I think I might have led him down the wrong path. So, I–I think I–I need to talk to him.

John: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Now?

Marlena: Yeah, I think this shouldn’t wait.

John: No, I–I–I don’t think that’s a good idea. Because you are paler now than you were when left the house. Something’s going on that’s got you upset.

Marlena: It was a very emo–it was a very emotional session, and–and I think ben still needs me.

John: Sweetheart, I know how committed you are to your patients, and I respect that, but right now tonight you’re gonna shut it down. I’m gonna take you home. You talk to ben tomorrow.

Marlena: John, this is not–

John: I’m not taking no for an answer, sweetheart. Let’s go. Let’s go. Now.

John: Come on.

Ben: How soon after you stop taking the pill can you get pregnant?

Ciara: I don’t know. Let me check.

Ciara: Okay, so it says here that I can get pregnant immediately.

Ciara: Or it can take up to a year.

Ben: It doesn’t really narrow it down. Does it?

Ciara: Uh-uh. It also says that if I stop taking the pill in the middle of my pack, which I am doing, I can get pregnant right away. It’s rare, but it does happen.

Ben: Ooh, well, then what better time than the present, huh? Am I wrong?

Ciara: No.

Ben: I didn’t think so. On the outside, I looked fine.

Chad: You know, I’d–I’d like to work hard, ej, but the truth is you’ve been inching me out of the process since the moment we took over those jobs. And you damn well know it.

Ej: I entered into our agreement in good faith. I wanted it to work.

Chad: No, you didn’T. You’ve been planning this from the get-go. I’m backing johnny so you’re making your move.

Ej: I have a hard time trusting people who betray me.

Chad: I believe in johnny, I’m supporting him. And this is your way of paying me back. Just be a man and call it what it is.

Ej: Don’t tell me, you’re serious about running dimera. I just heard you talking about acting in a student movie. You don’t have time for side jobs.

Abigail: Okay, look. You took time to act as xander cook’s attorney. What was that? Pro bono work?

Ej: What I do is none of your business.

Chad: Okay.

Abigail: You know darn well that he has all the time in the world to be in johnny’s movie in his spare time and still put in a full day at dimera.

Ej: No, I don’t think shin will concur. As a matter of fact, I’ll call him now, sound him out about chad’s new gig.

Chad: I mean, I don’t–I don’t even–i don’t even have the part, and you just drooling over the thought of dumping me.

Ej: You never should have undermined me with my son.

Johnny: So you closed the bakery and came here, huh?

Allie: Yeah, I did. You have a problem with that?

Johnny: I just thought you were going home to learn your lines.

Allie: Well, I called nicole, and she said henry was already asleep, so i figured I’d come see grandpa and get some dinner.

Johnny: So grandpa’s still here?

Allie: Yeah, he’s in the back.

Johnny: Oh, good. I need to talk to him.

Allie: Before you do, you should know that grandpa john was here, and he saw my script. He knows the movie’s about grandma marlena now, and he’s flipping out.

Johnny: Oh, man. He was–he was really pissed?

Allie: Yeah. He’s gonna tell grandma that she shouldn’t give you the right to make the movie.

Johnny: But I will convince her that she should, that I can tell her story.

Roman: It won’t make much difference.

Johnny: What do you mean?

Roman: Look, I saw it john, saw his reaction when he looked at your script, and it got me thinking. And, johnny, I can’t in good conscience invest in your movie anymore.

John: All right, now, doctor, I want you to try to get some sleep, and I’m sure you’re gonna feel a lot better in the morning. Okay?

Marlena: Yeah. I’m just still so worried about ben.

John: Have you figured out why yet?

Marlena: No, just a–just a gut feeling.

John: Well, I think I might know what’s going on here.

Marlena: Well, I wish I did.

John: I think that you were just obsessed with ben, because you tried so damn hard to help doug, and you couldn’T.

Marlena: Yeah, I-I try so hard. I-I-I just wanted to get through to doug. I want–and then I–I feel awful about trying to convince julie to let me commit him to bayview.

John: Hey, after what he did to her, you didn’t have a choice. Now, I know you, sweetheart, and I know that you–you always want to try to help everybody, especially those people you love, and–and then, you know, you’ve done a really good job with ben, but you don’t need to talk to him tonight. Tonight you just need to take care of yourself. Okay?

Marlena: Yeah.

John: Okay.

Marlena: Okay, yeah, I’m– I’m–I’m sure ben will be fine. It can wait till tomorrow.

Ciara: What do you think?

Ben: I think we should have been making babies a long time ago. I’ve lost count of how many asthma attacks I’ve had.

Chad: So should we try the scene again?

Abigail: Aren’t you worried about ej getting to shin?

Chad: Ej, no. I don’t care what ej says. I’ve been killing it at the office. And I don’t see shin making any changes. Not–not with the way profits are. So should we take it from the top?

Abigail: I’m tired. I think I’ve rehearsed enough for today.

Chad: What? What are you talking about? We’re just–we’re just getting to the good part.

Abigail: Uh-huh. I just wanna go upstairs. I’m gonna check on the kids, and I’m going to take a very long, hot bath.

Chad: Well, why don’t we– why don’t we check on the kids together. And then I can–I can escort you to your room because I wouldn’t want you running into any–any dangerous creatures in the hallway, especially ones with plummy british accents.

Abigail: Hmm. You’re very protective.

Chad: Yeah.

Abigail: But that sounds nice.

Johnny: Oh, come on, grandpa. You can’t do this to me. I’m counting on you.

Roman: Yeah, I know. Look, I feel bad about breaking my word, okay? But admit it, you pulled a bait and switch on me. And it’s not fair, and it’s not right. And this new story of yours, I don’t think you get what a really bad idea this is.

Johnny: Oh, man.

Roman: Johnny, you can’t just be about what you want. This movie can mess people’s lives up, people you love, people you care about.

Johnny: Thank you for trying to help me.

Roman: All right, listen. I gotta run. Make sure nobody robs the place.

Allie: We’ll keep an eye out.

Roman: See you later.

Chanel: I am so sorry, G.

Johnny: I mean what the hell am I supposed to do now? I’ve tapped every investor I can think of.

Allie: Any way you could crowd source the rest of the money?

Johnny: That could take forever. Damn it.

Chanel: Hey, why don’t we just order some food and then we can brainstorm over dinner.

Johnny: I’m not hungry anymore. You mind if we take a rain check? I–I just need to think this thing through on my own. I’m really sorry.

Chanel: I understand. We’re gonna figure this out.

Johnny: I hope so. See ya.

Chanel: Poor guy. I’ve never seen him like that.

Allie: I have. But we were little kids.

Marlena: Ooh, goodness. Do feel kind of worn out. Maybe I could turn off those thoughts that keep going through my head.

John: Thoughts? What kinda–what kinda thoughts?

Marlena: Just thoughts– thoughts about my patients.

John: Hey, hey, hey. Maybe this gizmo over here will help. Want me to turn it on?

Marlena: What–what is that?

John: Why, this is called a white sound machine. Comes highly recommended by abraham carver. Paulina brought one up from miami; it puts abe to sleep just like that.

Marlena: Well, okay. Let’s hope it works.

John: Yeah, that and maybe a cup of hot chamomile tea?

Marlena: Aw, that’d be nice. Thank you.

John: All right, now you just close your eyes, and I will be right back. Okay.

[Eerie music]

Demon marlena: Listen to your husband, marlena. Forget all about ben weston.

 

Johnny: [Scoffs]

Ej: Something wrong?

Johnny: Oh, you’ll love this, yeah. Grandpa roman doesn’t wanna put money in the movie anymore. So my dream project is over before it ever even got started.

Ej: If you’re expecting me to gloat, it’s not going to happen. What if I offered to cover roman’s investment?

Johnny: Okay, but what’s the catch? ‘Cause I know there is one.

Ej: You’re right.

Chad: Can we do this every night? Check on thomas and charlotte together?

Abigail: I would love that. Yeah. Were you really serious about wanting to play john? Or you just trying to get in ej’s face?

Chad: Maybe a little bit of both. But what I wanna–when I started to talk about the two of us doing it together, I started to really like the idea.

Abigail: Why?

Chad: It just seems like it would be a fun adventure for us to go through together. And I wouldn’t have to worry about you doing some sex scenes with some random guy.

Johnny: I’m not going to work at dimera enterprises. I would rather wait tables at the pub.

Ej: That’s not my condition. You’ve made yourself clear.

Johnny: Stop playing games, dad. What do you want?

Ej: What I want is to play john black.

John: Yeah, hold on a second. Hey, roman.

Roman: Hey, hey, sorry for coming by so late without calling first, but I wanted to let you know. I told johnny I won’t help fund his film.

John: Nice. Thanks, roman. I know that it wasn’t easy.

Roman: No it wasn’t, but your right. The last thing we want is for marlena to have to relive that time.

Marlena: Ben, have to warn ben.

[Wind whooshing]

Demon marlena: Let it go, marlena. Leave ben to me. Stop fighting. Give in to me.

Ciara: Was that just me or did that feel different? Like extra special?

Ben: It was definitely not just you.

Ciara: I didn’t think it was.

Ben: Mm-mm.

Ciara: And that kinda has me wondering.

Ben: Oh, yeah? What are you wondering, my love?

Ciara: I’m wondering if we just made a baby.

Allie: And a half. I can’t believe we sold out everything in the bakery.

Chanel: I feel like I barely even had a chance to breathe. I didn’t even get a chance to ask you how your date was.

Allie: It was fine, but how about you? What did you end up doing last night?

Chanel: You know, it turns out it was good I didn’t go out with you guys, because I was involved in a surprise engagement.

Allie: What? You and my brother got engaged?

Johnny: Hey, just the person I was looking for.

Abigail: Oh, really? Good reason or bad reason?

Johnny: Good.

Abigail: Okay. Another script.

Johnny: You can tear up the old one. That is the rewrite. Hot off the press.

Abigail: Okay, and so you said this one focuses mainly on your grandmother being possessed by the–

Johnny: It’s okay. You can say it. You’re gonna have to live it when you play her in the movie.

Abigail: You wrote another script that fast?

Johnny: Yeah. I was working on it all night, but I gotta tell you that thing practically wrote itself. I guess you could say the devil was my muse.

Abigail: Hmm.

Kayla: [Laughs] How did you know that’s what I needed?

Roman: Lucky guess. Nothing does the trick like mom’s cure-all.

Kayla: I wish it could cure everything.

Roman: What’s going on?

Kayla: I just came from committing doug to bayview for evaluation.

Roman: How’d that go?

Kayla: He was extremely upset and was insisting that he didn’t belong there. And he just kept asking for julie, over and over again.

Ciara: I think that I’m more ready to start a family than ben is.

Julie: He doesn’t want children?

Ciara: Oh, he does. It’s just he has his own issues to work through, before he can fully commit.

Julie: Considering his family history and his own, that makes sense.

Ciara: Yeah, he’s actually at a session with marlena right now, mm-hmm. Hopefully, she can help him work through those feelings. There is no one I trust more than marlena.

Julie: As do I. I know she’s going to help my doug and help your ben too. I have complete faith in marlena. And you should too.

Marlena: I’m sorry, ben.

Ben: It’s okay, and thank you again for making the time to see me.

Devil: Don’t let him go, marlena. You need to convince ben weston that he and his wife must have this baby. Don’t let me down, marlena, or there will be a steep price to pay.

[Echoing] Pay, pay.

[Soft orchestration]

 

Allie: Why didn’t you tell me you were engaged? I mean, where’s the ring?

Chanel: [Laughs] Relax, horton. I am not engaged to your brother after three dates.

Allie: Oh, okay, well, you said you were involved in a surprise engagement, so what’s the engagement?

Chanel: Abe proposed to my mom last night.

Allie: Oh! Well, that’s great.

Chanel: And the best part is she said yes.

Allie: Well, lucky uncle abe. Your mom is a total catch.

Chanel: Hell yeah she is, and it was a really romantic night all around.

Allie: Okay, well, if you’re talking about my brother now, I don’t really need the gory details.

Chanel: It would only be gory if he was a lousy singer.

Allie: No, please do not tell me that my brother brought out his guitar and “serenaded” you.

Chanel: Yeah, he sure did.

Allie: Oh, my god.

Chanel: He was “wooing” me. His words.

Allie: I told you he was a player.

Chanel: Well, if he is, then so far he’s playing it exactly right.

Abigail: You changed the name of the movie, I see.

Johnny: I had to. It’s not the sami brady story any more.

Abigail: Did you tell your mom? ‘Cause she’s not gonna be happy.

Johnny: She is not even returning my texts or my calls, so she doesn’t get a say. But you do, and so does chad. I want you both to read over this. Please let me know if you have any questions, if any of the dialogue feels unnatural. I want you to be brutally honest, okay?

Abigail: You’re sure about that?

Johnny: Of course. It’s a collaborative film, and I appreciate you guys believing in my vision.

Abigail: Aww. Thank you. I really appreciate the opportunity.

Johnny: So you’re excited?

Abigail: I am, yeah. After these last few crazy months, I can’t believe how much I’m looking forward to it.

Johnny: Well, I will leave you to it, and maybe… read it with the lights on.

Abigail: “Possessed: The marlena evans story.”

[Eerie music]

 

Devil: Are you listening to me, marlena? You need to stop him. Now.

Ben: Dr. Evans, you all right?

Marlena: You didn’t hear that?

Ben: Hear what?

Devil: Ben can’t hear me, doc. I have a direct line right into your head. And more importantly, your soul.

Ben: Dr. Evans, what did you hear?

[Eerie music]

 

Marlena: A sound. Outside. It must have been something outside. Nothing–it’s nothing.

Ben: What did it sound like?

Devil: You need to change his mind, marlena. Tell him right now. Tell him to have this baby. If you don’t, I’ll have to pay a visit to poor, vulnerable doug.

Marlena: Well, I don’t–

Ben: Dr. Evans, are you sure you’re all right?

Marlena: Um… no, actually I’m not feeling very well at all.

Ben: You know, maybe you should head home. Get some rest. Yeah? You’ll feel better, okay?

Marlena: Wait. You can’t leave. Your mission:

Allie: Please tell me that you recorded my brother singing to you.

Chanel: I did not.

Allie: Damn it. I could have used it for blackmail.

Chanel: It was a very lovely, private moment.

Allie: A lovely, private, cringey moment. I’m sure my brother couldn’t be cheesier if he tried.

Johnny: I bet I can.

Chanel: Hey, you.

Johnny: Hey.

Allie: Heart-shaped chocolates? You know she’s a baker, right?

Johnny: They’re chocolate-covered mixed nuts.

Chanel: My favorite. You’re good. He’s good.

Abigail: Oh!

Chad: Sorry, sorry, sorry.

Abigail: [Laughs] Oh, my gosh. I did not…

Chad: Sorry.

Abigail: Hear you come in. I was so caught up in the script.

Chad: How many times you read that thing?

Abigail: This is a totally new version. Johnny practically started over. He wants us to read it and give him some feedback.

Chad: Okay. It sounds like a nice diversion from the day at the office that I had.

Abigail: You weren’t confronted by the devil, were you?

Chad: Not quite. Ej’s not speaking to me.

Abigail: Because of the movie stuff?

Chad: He’ll only communicate to me through our assistants. He’s furious that I’m financing a story about sami’s past.

Abigail: Well, you can’t pull out now. Not only would it break johnny’s heart. I think it’d kind of break mine.

Roman: [Sighs] Damn. It breaks my heart. I mean, I know he was having trouble. Mixing up names. I mean, he did that when he came in the pub, a while back, but damn. It sounds like it’s really getting a lot worse.

Kayla: Well, I think we know better than most that dementia is a degenerative illness. And in doug’s case, it just seems like it’s progressing with alarming rapidity.

Roman: Well, we did get a miracle for mom.

Kayla: Well, it’s gonna take at least that, if not more, for doug to recover.

Julie: You just got married. Your whole life is before you. There’s no rush to have a baby, is there?

Ciara: I guess not. Plenty of people decide not to have kids, right? And good for them. It’s just–I don’t know. I never thought that I would have to make that decision.

Julie: What about adoption? I mean, if ben is so concerned about passing on his genes.

Ciara: Yeah, allie actually asked me about that, but I mean I don’t think we’re the perfect candidates, given ben’s history.

Julie: I understand.

Ciara: And besides, I don’t even think that would address all of his concerns. I think he’s not only afraid of passing down his genes. I think he’s afraid of the kind of parent he’s gonna end up becoming. I think he’s afraid that he’ll turn into clyde.

Ben: Why can’t I leave? Aren’t we finished with our session?

Marlena: We are, but…

Devil: Pull yourself together, marlena. You can do it. You have to do it.

Marlena: I don’t want you going home to ciara and telling her that you can’t have a child.

Ben: Why not?

Marlena: Because–

Devil: Say it, marlena. Say it.

Marlena: Because that would be a terrible mistake. This is the sound of an asthma attack…

Julie: Oh, my darling girl. I hope all your hopes and dreams come true.

Ciara: Thank you, grandma, but right now, I am worried about grandpa and you. I’m just so sorry for what you guys are going through.

Julie: We’ve had a long and exciting life together. I never took a day of it for granted. I have no regrets.

Ciara: But still, I mean you never really think that something like this would happen.

Julie: No. No, you don’T. You can prepare yourself for illness. You can even prepare yourself for that day when one of you has to say goodbye. But I never expected that my darling would want to hurt me or stop loving me.

Ciara: No. He would never stop loving you. No matter how sick he gets, he still loves you, deep down in his soul with all of his heart. And that is one thing that I know for certain. He always will love you.

Kayla: [Sighs] Thank you for the chowder.

Roman: Any time, sis.

Kayla: All right, I’m gonna head over to the hortons and check on julie.

Roman: Okay. Give ’em my love.

Kayla: I will do that. I love you.

Roman: I love you.

Kayla: Hey, john.

John: Hey, kay.

Kayla: How’s marlena feeling?

John: Better. Nowhere near 100%. I tried talking her out of going to work.

Kayla: She went to the hospital?

John: You know doc. Always putting everybody else’s needs first.

Kayla: That she does.

John: Keep an eye on her for me, will you?

Kayla: Of course.

John: Thanks. Appreciate that. Yeah.

Kayla: Take care.

Roman: Hey, john. What can I get for you?

John: Just a couple minutes of your time.

Roman: Always on the menu. What’s up?

John: Johnny tells me that you are thinking about investing in his film.

Roman: Doing more than thinking about it. Told him I would.

John: Well, I’m here to talk you out of it.

Chad: You’re really psyched about doing this movie, huh?

Abigail: I am, yeah. It feels like a new challenge. An opportunity to maybe learn something about salem’s history. And aren’t you excited to be a part of it?

Chad: Yeah. I wouldn’t be investing in it if I didn’t believe in it.

Abigail: So you’re not gonna let ej’s temper tantrum change your mind?

Chad: No, not a chance.

Abigail: Good, because chad–this story–it’s insane. I mean, my part. The things that I get to do. I just hope that I can do justice to everything that marlena went through, really.

Chad: Well, I mean, you–look at me. You have succeeded at everything you’ve ever done, okay? You are gonna be great.

Abigail: Thank you. I think I’m gonna read the words out loud. You know, just to kind of make sure everything flows.

Chad: Yeah, well…

Abigail: You know?

Chad: Why don’t we read it together? I’ll be your scene partner.

Abigail: Really?

Chad: Yeah. Look, I am–I mean I’m no professional.

Abigail: God.

Chad: Okay? But I’m game. You can call me… john black.

Abigail: It’S… father john black. You ready?

Chad: Let’s do it.

Abigail: [Clears throat]

Chad: Fade in.

Chanel: Mmm. I wonder if we can make a cookie that tastes like this. Cashews and dark chocolate.

Allie: No. It’s almost dinnertime.

Johnny: You just cannot admit that I bought something nice for chanel. You know, I’m actually a pretty good boyfriend.

Allie: Okay, well, if you’re here to do more wooing, I’m gonna get going.

Johnny: Ah, hang on. I’m here to woo you too.

Allie: Oh, another script.

Johnny: I know you haven’t committed to the project yet, but there is no way you’ll turn me down after you read this draft. I promise.

Allie: Sorry, buddy, but I’m turning you down right now.

Ben: You’re telling me that it would be a mistake not to bring a baby into this world? Fully knowing that it could possibly be sick, like I was?

Marlena: Ben, you were ill. You’re not ill anymore.

Ben: I understand that, but I also know that it could come back. And I face that possibility every single day, and I know my child could go through that same thing.

Marlena: But the odds are so low.

Ben: They’re not zero.

Marlena: No. No, nothing is really zero. Look, god forbid–

Devil: Don’t bring him into this.

Marlena: Ben… we all have traits we don’t want to pass on to our children. I mean, that’s just part of parenting. It’s part of being human. Look, if your child were to become ill, well, you’d get medical attention. Mental health is the same thing.

Ben: Yeah, but when I was ill it didn’t just make me sick. It caused me to kill people.

Marlena: We didn’t catch it soon enough, but you will be so vigilant with your own child.

Ben: Dr. Evans, there isn’t an amount of vigilance in this world to head off evil. I’m sorry. I-I can’t– I can’t do that.

Devil: Stop him now. You have to.

Marlena: Why?

Ben: What do you mean, “why?” I’m a ganiac, ganiac, check my drawers

Johnny: Allie, come on, please. I need you to play mom.

Allie: Why? The story’s about grandma now.

Johnny: And mom is her daughter. She was about our age when grandma was possessed.

Chanel: Oh, there’s a sentence.

Johnny: Look, mom has some really pivotal scenes. Wait till you read about the moment that she walked in on grandma and grandpa john on top of the titan conference…

Allie: Okay.

Johnny: Table.

Allie: One, ew, and, two, what does it have to do with the possession?

Johnny: The fallout from that affair is the event that pushed mom over the edge. I mean, that’s why she changed aunt belle’s paternity test results, why she kidnapped her. A lot of people say that that was the birth of sami brady as we know her.

Chanel: Your mom did all of that?

Allie: It’s literally just the beginning.

Chanel: So what happened with your grandma, after your mom caught her?

Allie: Well, the truth got out about the affair, and my grandpa roman divorced her.

Johnny: Leaving marlena all alone, vulnerable, and full of shame. And that’s how the devil found his way in.

Roman: Okay. Well, john, I gotta tell you I am not gonna go back on my word to my grandchild.

John: Roman, you know what this film’s about.

Roman: Yeah. Sami’s life.

John: All of our lives. And from what I understand, it’s gonna include the moment that doc and I–

Roman: Cheated on me.

John: Yep.

Roman: John, I came to terms with that a long time ago. Stefano upended all our lives. Marlena fell in love with you when she thought you were me, and after that, as hard as you two tried, you couldn’t stay apart.

Marlena: John. I didn’t think I’d see you tonight.

John: I didn’t expect to see you here, either, especially alone.

Marlena: I’m not. Roman is coming.

John: You know, doc, you couldn’t lie to me when we were married, and you still can’T. God, you look beautiful tonight. Wait please.

Marlena: Don’t do this.

John: Just a minute.

Marlena: Don’T. If you care about me at all, don’t touch me. Not now. Not ever…

Both: Again.

Chad: I guess john didn’t listen.

Abigail: No editorializing. Keep going.

Chad: Sorry.

[Clears throat]

[As john] I talked to carrie, after you left. She felt as though you may be coming down with a little something.

Abigail as marlena: Oh, well, she was wrong.

Chad: Are you sure?

Abigail: Yes, I feel fine.

Chad: All right. Then why aren’t you upstairs at the party with everyone else?

Abigail: I just needed some time by myself.

Chad: Why? Why? I mean, if you’re not ill, why are you here? What are you running away from? If, um–

Abigail: You know, I think maybe that’s enough for one day.

Chad: It’s a little close to home, huh?

Ciara: There we go.

Julie: Enough of this. Cheer me up.

Ciara: Okay.

Julie: Yes. Tell me about your honeymoon. It was in new orleans?

Ciara: Yes, it was.

Julie: So tell me all about the food.

Ciara: Oh, the food! Well, where do I even start? The crawfish. The muffuletta sandwiches. The beignets. Oh, and we even visited oak alley.

Julie: Oh, it’s beautiful, isn’t it? Your mother and father made some wonderful memories there.

Ciara: Yeah, it is beautiful, but it’s changed a lot. The plantation’s had to reckon with its past. Yeah, enslaved workers built the house, planted the oaks, and that is all a part of its legacy.

Julie: It’s important to reexamine the sins of the past. Hard as that is.

Ciara: Yeah. It actually made ben think about how he had to reckon with his own sins.

Julie: This is why he has doubts about having children?

Ciara: Whatever happens, whether we have kids or not, I will respect his decision. I would never want to pressure him into doing something that he doesn’t want to do.

Ben: You’re asking me why I don’t want to risk bringing a bad seed into this world? Dr. Evans, isn’t that answer kind of obvious?

Marlena: I know about your fears, but I’m telling you it’s very, very unlikely.

Ben: But you said earlier–

Marlena: Yes. That it’s possible. Anything is possible. But there’s a very big difference between healthy fear and unhealthy avoidance.

Ben: And you think that’s what this is?

Marlena: I think any child you have is going to grow up in a wonderful and loving home– something you never had. And ciara, she loves you so much. She wants to have a family with you.

Ben: I know that.

Marlena: And if you deny her the chance to be a mother, she’ll accept that… on the surface.

Ben: Well, what do you mean, “on the surface”?

Marlena: Well, when one half of a couple makes a decision that affects them both, there can be a level of resentment.

Ben: So you think ciara would resent me for not wanting to have a kid?

Marlena: I certainly have seen that in my practice. And you know, when there’s that level of resentment it really can damage a marriage.

Ben: So you’re saying?

Marlena: I’m saying go home. Make love to your wife, and see if you can make a baby together. Clerk: Hello, how can I?

Allie: Johnny, I’m not an actress.

Johnny: Neither is abigail, but you have the life experience to play these parts. Nobody knows mom like you do. You know how she acts. You know how she thinks.

Chanel: You do look like her.

Johnny: You would kill this.

Allie: All right, as much as I enjoy you kissing up to me, I just don’t have time. I mean, I’m so busy with the bakery and henry.

Chanel: And tripp.

Johnny: It wouldn’t take that much time. Look, you’re not the star of the movie. We would shoot around your schedule. You make a little money. I’d owe you forever.

Chanel: How can you say “no” to that?

Allie: I thought you were against the movie?

Chanel: Well, I’m just saying it could come in handy to have your twin owe you forever.

Johnny: Think about how much you would enjoy holding that over me.

Chanel: And besides, how can you turn down that face?

Allie: All right, fine. Fine. I will play mom in your movie. I just hope that this does not come back to haunt us.

Roman: John?

John: Hey.

Roman: Where did you just go?

John: Sorry, I just kind of drifted off reminiscing. What do you know about zen?

Marlena: About what?

John: About zen. As in buddhism. It’s very complicated, yet it’s very simple, at the same time. Like the story of the man who wanted to know who buddha was. So he asked him, “are you a god?” And buddha said, “no.” So he asked him, “are you an angel?” And once again, buddha said, “no.” So he said, “you must be a saint.” And for the third time, buddha replied, “no.” So the man said, “what are you?” And buddha looked at him and said, “I am awake.” Well, that’s what the word “buddha” means. Awake. It’s how the whole thing started: With one man who woke up.

Abigail: And you’re right. You know, I was running away from you and my feelings, and just like john said of marlena in the script. But… I’m not doing that anymore.

Chad: If this is too much–

Abigail: No. No, you can keep going.

Chad: Are you sure?

Abigail: Yeah, yeah. Let’s go ahead.

Chad: [Clears throat]

[As john] What do you know about zen?

Abigail as marlena: About what?

Chad: About zen. As in buddhism. It’s very simple, yet very complicated, at the same time.

Julie: Well, ben must be finished with marlena by now, and you should be heading home.

Ciara: Are you sure? I just–I don’t know if you should be alone right now.

Julie: I can be alone, sweetheart. I don’t want you to waste one minute with your precious husband. You’ve lost too much time as it is.

Ciara: All right, as long as you’re sure you’re gonna be okay.

Julie: You know me.

Ciara: Toughest woman I know.

Julie: Runs in the family.

Ciara: Yes, it does. I will be praying for grandpa.

Julie: Thank you, sweetheart.

Ciara: Please let me know when I can visit him.

Julie: Of course.

Ciara: Okay.

Julie: Of course

Ciara: Okay.

Julie: And I hope everything works out for you and ben, and I wish you all the luck in the world, and, oh, you so deserve to be happy. And so does he.

Marlena: What are you waiting for? Go on home.

Ben: This does not sound like you.

Marlena: What do you mean?

Ben: I mean you never tell me what to do. You ask me questions, but then you leave me room to make my own decisions.

Marlena: Yes. I just don’t want you going down the wrong road, you know? Want to stay on the path. I mean you’ve worked so hard to end up with ciara.

Ben: Yeah.

Marlena: So does that clarify everything?

Ben: Yeah. Yeah. Actually, it does, so thank you. Once again, thank you.

Marlena: Yes.

Ben: Get some rest.

Marlena: Yes. You take care.

Ben: Thanks. You too.

[Tense music]

 

Devil: Good job, marlena. I knew you could do it. On the outside, I looked fine.

Johnny: You don’t have to commit right now, okay? You can go home. Read the script. The scene in the titan conference room is at the very beginning. You don’t even have any lines. You just have to look horrified when you walk in on grandma and grandpa john having sex.

Allie: Yeah, well, that shouldn’t be too hard.

Johnny: I’ll need to see how deeply it hurts: The shock, betrayal. This was a moment that broke mom. Changed her forever, and in this story, it was the inciting incident.

Chanel: The what now?

Johnny: The event that sets everything into motion. It was that carnal sin which invited the devil into salem. There wouldn’t be a story without it.

Abigail as marlena: Why are you telling me that story?

Chad as john: Because that’s how I feel when I’m with you. And no one on this earth and nothing else–

John: Nothing and nobody on this earth makes me feel that way.

Marlena: Don’t do this to me.

John: Oh, god. I know you want to go, and I’m not gonna stop you, but please, there is one thing I need to say, all right? You know what I was going through when isabella died. How I was walking around like a zombie. I was dead inside, until that night on the plane when you and I made love. You gave me life again, doc. And if nothing more comes out of this, I just want to say thank you. One fateful night changed everything. For me. For you. Sami. Marlena. Now here we are, having that part of our lives recreated on the big screen?

Roman: And you’re worried that it’s all gonna bring it rushing back?

John: Well, aren’t you? Come on, man. We’ve worked so hard to put all this behind us here. We don’t know what’s gonna happen, if we open that door.

Roman: Well… you know what? Could be a good thing. Final catharsis. If I’m okay with it, why shouldn’t you be?

John: It’s not about the affair, roman. It’s about marlena being possessed by the devil.

Devil: Brilliantly played, marlena. Using ben’s own love for ciara as a weapon against him? You did me proud.

[Recorder beeps] You think you can get rid of me by shutting off the recorder? After all these years, you should know you can never get rid of me. My nunormal?

Johnny: Thank you for helping me convince allie to do the movie.

Chanel: You did the heavy lifting.

Johnny: Hey, I thought you were terrified of this story?

Chanel: Well, I’m still properly afraid of the devil, like any good girl should be, but I see how passionate you are about this story. I know you’re not gonna give up, and I kinda wanted to move the conversation along.

Johnny: Oh? Why is that?

Chanel: So I could be alone with you.

Johnny: And I could demonstrate my passion in a different way?

Chanel: Exactly.

Chad as john: You want me to leave… I’ll walk out that door right now. And as hard as it may be, I’ll stay out of your life, if that’s what you want.

[In normal voice] Abby, what’s wrong?

Abigail: It says they kiss.

Chad: Yeah, I know.

Julie: You have seen doug?

Kayla: Yeah. I have, and I’m afraid that there’s no change. He’s still very upset and confused.

Julie: But I get to visit him tomorrow, right?

Kayla: Well, I think that we should wait till after the first 24 hours. We need to make sure that the doctors think that he’s not a danger to you anymore.

Julie: I hate this, kayla. I feel so helpless. I’m not there to jog his memory. I’m not there to hold his hand. I’m not there to tell him I love him.

Kayla: I know, but hopefully, soon.

Julie: Well, is there anything I can do?

Kayla: Well, you know me. I’m a doctor, but I believe very strongly in the power of prayer.

Julie: So do I, and I’m gonna keep on praying for my husband till my last breath.

John: I tried to convince johnny, “just leave the possession part out of the script.”

Roman: Okay. What is it you’re worried about?

John: Oh, come on, man. Do I even have to say it?

Roman: That it could happen again? That we’re inviting the devil back into our lives.

John: Why take the risk?

Roman: All right, john. Tell you what. Let me talk with johnny, okay? As big a moment as that was in all our lives, sami’s had a lot of big moments. I think johnny can make the movie without that.

John: Thanks.

Allie: Hey, look. It’s a meeting of the grandpas.

Roman: Hey, look who’s here. How’s it going?

Allie: Not great.

John: No? Why not? What’s wrong?

Allie: Well, I can’t believe it, but I just let johnny talk me into playing mom in his stupid movie.

Roman: Wait a minute. Are we looking at the star of the sami brady story?

Allie: No, I am just a supporting character now.

John: How is that even possible?

Allie: Well, johnny totally rewrote the script. It’s a horror movie now. He even changed the title.

Roman: What’s it called now?

Allie: “Possessed: The marlena evans story.”

[Dramatic eerie music]

 

Marlena: I don’t understand. Why are you doing this?

Devil: Marlena, I told you we had a lot of work to do.

Marlena: What does any of this have to do with ben?

Ben: Well, I am glad that you at least got to be there for julie.

Ciara: Well, I tried. So how did it go with marlena? Did you talk to her about us starting a family?

Ben: Actually, yes, I did.

Ciara: You did? Well, did it make you feel any better?

Ben: It did.

Ciara: Wait, it did?

Ben: Mm-hmm.

Ciara: So does that mean…

Ben: If you want to have a baby… let’s have a baby.

Devil: Do you want to know what this has to do with ben? What do you think, marlena? I have big plans for ben weston’s baby. Big plans.

[Cackling]

Jake: What?

Gabi: Yeah, for spying on him, and now, he’s trying to get me to give up gabi chic and threatening to send you to prison for murder. But that cannot happen, unless all of this is true, so I am gonna ask you again, jake. Did you kill this guy jed back in philly?

Jake: Not here. Not in public. Let’s talk at home.

Gabi: Fine. Be lucky if we run into that bitch ava.

Jake: You mean she’s behind this?

Gabi: Where else would philip have gotten this information?

Brady: I value our friendship. Always have. And I wouldn’t want to do anything to jeopardize it, so… I accept that you have chosen philip, and I hope it works out, chloe. I hope that you’re happy together.

Chloe: Thank you, brady. That means a lot to me.

Devil voice: It’s laughable how easy it was for the two of us to dispense with that old fool. Just look at what you and I can accomplish together, marlena, when you let me in. I let you cast me out, but it’s only a matter of time before you and I are one again.

Marlena: No.

Devil voice: You won’t let me back in right now? Let me in, marlena. It’s so much simpler not to fight it.

Marlena: No!

John: Doc, what’s wrong? What’s going on in here?

Brady: I hope philip appreciates how amazing you are.

Chloe: Well, thank you, and I don’t think philip appreciating me is the problem. I kind of feel like he appreciates me a little too much.

Brady: Think you’re right about that. I just–I hope he gets past all the jealousy stuff.

Chloe: Yeah, I think he finally has. I think he’s over it, and you know, buying this tree and us planting it together is a sign of our new beginning. You know, a sign that we are committed to each other.

Brady: Well, I wish you luck. You deserve only the best, chloe.

Chloe: You too.

Brady: I’m gonna go get my girl. I’ll take you home, okay?

Chloe: Okay.

[Tense music]

 

Philip: I know I can’t erase the mistakes of the past, but I’m hoping that it can be the start of a new, better beginning for us. Serena: It’s my 3:10

Maggie: I couldn’t believe it when I got back this morning and I heard the news.

Julie: Well, darling, you have had heartbreak of your own with summer. Again, I am so very sorry.

Maggie: Thank you. At least I was there to take care of her until the end.

Julie: I’m sure it meant the world to her, maggie.

Maggie: So when did all this trouble with doug start?

Julie: Oh, a few weeks ago. It’s all happened so fast. I mean, doug was himself. He was telling stories always, you know, about the people in our lives. And sometimes I remember it, and sometimes I didn’T. And then one afternoon, at our restaurant, while we’re setting up for the dinner crowd, he locked me in the walk-in freezer.

Maggie: [Scoffs] Well, that had to have been an accident.

Julie: I thought it was, at first. He told marlena it wasn’t, and then he began to confuse names, and he began to forget people. And then the inappropriate behavior.

Maggie: Oh, I can’t imagine.

Julie: It’s been awful.

Maggie: Yeah.

Julie: Went to the hospital for tests.

Maggie: Mm-hmm.

Julie: Once he’s there, he became even more confused and very agitated. And that’s when they tell me he hit me over the head with a tray.

Maggie: Dear god. You must have been so traumatized.

Julie: Well, I don’t actually remember it.

Maggie: Oh.

Julie: But marlena was in the room, and she told me what happened.

Marlena: The tablet…

John: Is it this article that’s got you so upset?

Marlena: The article.

John: About doug?

Marlena: Yes, I saw the article, and that upset me.

John: Of course it did, sweetheart. I mean, you were right there when he assaulted julie, and you had to make the painful judgment to commit him to bayview.

Marlena: I feel awful about that. About all of it.

John: Well, you know, unfortunately, doug’s become a danger to himself and others. And you know doug. He would never forgive himself if he ever really hurt julie or anybody else, so, honey, you only did what you had to do, in order to not only protect doug, but everyone that he loves.

Gabi: Where is that she-devil?

Jake: Doesn’t seem like she’s home.

Gabi: Lucky her.

Jake: I don’t get it. I was just talking to her, and she was acting all sweet, like this perfect little angel, saying all she wanted to do was make peace with you and move on.

Gabi: Well, that’s what she does, like when she acts all innocent in front of rafe.

Jake: Yeah, and the whole time, she was plotting with philip to take us both down.

Gabi: Ava vitali is a lot of things, but innocent is not one of them. I should have known when I smelled that aftershave the other day. Of course it was philip’S.

Jake: She blackmailed him. He almost died because of her.

Gabi: Yeah, but now, they have a mutual enemy, so of course mafia princess ava gives him the dirt on you.

Jake: What’d phil say?

Gabi: Claims that there’s an eyewitness against you.

Jake: Give you a name?

Gabi: According to the file, some guy named carmine supposedly saw you commit the murder.

Jake: [Scoffs] Carmine merlino?

Gabi: So it is true? This is the sound of an asthma attack…

Ciara: [Sighs] Whatever comes from your talk with marlena, we will deal with it. But ignoring the discussion isn’t gonna make your problem go away, ben.

Ben: You’re right. Marlena does always help.

[Sighs]

[Sighs]

[Cell phone beeps]

[Line trills]

[Cell phone rings]

[Cell phone beeps]

Marlena: Hello, ben. Is everything all right?

Ben: Well, actually, I was hoping to maybe schedule an appointment to see you. I’m just in the process of working my way through some feelings right now.

Marlena: Okay. How about right now?

Ben: Are you sure?

Marlena: I’m always here for you. Why don’t we meet at my office?

Ben: Okay, great. Yeah. Thank you. See you soon.

[Cell phone beeps] She can see me right now.

Ciara: That’s great.

Ben: Yeah.

Ciara: Do you want me to come with you?

Ben: You know what, baby? Thank you, but I think I have to figure this out on my own. Dr. Evans somehow always finds a way to help me see things a little bit more clearly.

Ciara: Call me as soon as you’re done, okay?

Ben: I will.

Ciara: I love you.

Ben: I love you.

[Sighs]

Ben: Mm.

Ciara: Bye.

[Cell phone rings]

[Cell phone beeps] Hello? Hey, shawn. What’s up? Wait, what? What happened to grandpa doug?

Julie: I was at a loss. I did not know how to deal with what was happening to doug, and then marlena recommended he be committed to bayview. They talked me into signing the papers, and they took him away.

Maggie: Oh, julie, that had to be so painful for you.

Julie: Pretty much the hardest thing I ever did in my life.

Maggie: Yeah.

Julie: ‘Cause as he’s going away, he looked back at me with such desperation and such fear. And I realized, what if it’s me? What if it’s me that he needs, and I’m turning him over to strangers?

Maggie: Oh, honey.

John: Come on, doc. What are you doing?

Marlena: I have an appointment with ben.

John: Whoa, whoa, whoa. But now? Come on.

Marlena: He needs me. Look, I couldn’t–I couldn’t do anything for poor doug, and now, maybe I can help ben.

John: Okay. I suppose you know what’s best.

Marlena: I do. I won’t be long.

John: Be careful.

Marlena: Yeah.

Gabi: I asked you the other day if you killed anybody, and you didn’t give me an answer. Is that because–

Jake: I didn’t kill jed zanetti.

Gabi: I knew it, and I swear I told philip. I told him that you were innocent.

Jake: Far from innocent, gabi.

Gabi: What?

Jake: [Sighs] It’s a lot more complicated than that.

Gabi: Jake, what do you mean, “complicated”? Either you killed that man, or you didn’T.

Jake: I shouldn’t even be talking about this. It’s not good for either of us.

Gabi: I need to know what happened, jake. All of it. I need to know exactly what we are dealing with here, so that we can figure out a way to fight philip.

Philip: My father doesn’t pay you to ask questions, henderson. Just have the gardener bring me a saw!

[Cell phone beeps] Oh, this one’s gonna be a lot easier to cut down.

Chloe: Hey, you’re home from work early.

Philip: So are you. What a nice coincidence.

Chloe: Yeah, you look like you were headed out.

Philip: I was.

Chloe: Okay. Where are you going?

Philip: I was just gonna take a drive down to the river to water our tree. You want to come? Don’t settle. Start your day with secret.

Jake: Never even wanted to think about this again.

Gabi: Hey, I can see how hard this is for you, but whatever it is, you already know that I love you.

Jake: So like I said before, the vitalis, we would make arrangements with the local businesses, right?

Gabi: Yeah, yeah, you offered them protection.

Jake: Yeah, and it was my job to enforce those arrangements. To apply pressure if there was any pushback. And there hardly ever was, but this one time… went too far. Remember the guy we were just talking about?

Gabi: Carmine merlino. The witness?

Jake: Yeah. No, no, no. Carmine was not a witness. Carmine and I worked together, and I would go out and collect the pizzo.

Gabi: Pizzo?

Jake: Yeah, yeah, that’s the protection money we collected from the local businesses, and there was this local bar owner, jed zanetti.

[Sighs] Crap. He was behind on his payments, and so the boss–our boss– ordered us to scare him. A little bit.

Gabi: What did you do?

Jake: Got in his face. Roughed him up a little bit. Carmine wouldn’t stop. Before I knew it, jed was coughing up blood.

Gabi: Oh, god.

Jake: Yeah. I tried. I tried to pull him off him, but he wouldn’t stop. It was too late. It’s too damn late.

Gabi: Jed died.

Jake: [Sighs] Right in front of me.

Gabi: Jake.

Jake: What?

Gabi: Philip says that carmine is willing to testify you were the man that beat him to death.

Jake: Okay, gabi, I didn’t do it, okay? I was there, but I tried to stop it.

Gabi: I believe you. I believe you, jake. It must have been awful.

Jake: Worst day of my life.

Philip: Why does it seem like you don’t want to go with me to our tree? Is there something I should know?

Chloe: No. Of course not. I would love to go with you. It would be nice to spend some time there.

Philip: Couldn’t agree more. And I don’t have to tell you, if you don’t nurture these things, they can wither and die.

Chloe: We won’t let that happen.

Philip: Of course, you can always overwater a tree too.

Chloe: Overwater?

Philip: Yeah, if you’re not careful, you can drown the roots. Kill the tree. Do you think that’s something we need to worry about?

Chloe: Philip–

Philip: Let me save you the trouble of lying. I saw you at our tree in brady’s arms.

Brady: Rachel’s in her room designing scary faces for us to carve.

John: Well, I hope it doesn’t give her nightmares. Enough of those going around these days.

Brady: How is everything? How’s marlena feeling?

John: Well, better, she says. She went to work.

Brady: All right. That’s good, right?

John: Yeah. I suppose. Still pretty upset about doug though.

Brady: Yeah I heard about that. Dad, did doug really attack julie?

John: Yeah, it looks that way. Although he keeps denying it. Says someone else did.

Brady: Who?

John: Doug says that marlena was the one who assaulted julie.

Ben: Thank you for seeing me on such short notice.

Marlena: Of course. I’m glad to see you. Always happy to help.

Ben: Means a lot to me.

Marlena: Do you mind if i record the session?

Ben: No, no.

[Recorder beeps]

[Static crackles]

[Demonic growling]

Devil voice: Dear marlena, did you really need to play this tape? I’m so hurt that you’ve already forgotten our little reunion.

Ben: Dr. Evans? Is something wrong?

Ciara: I just heard about grandpa doug. Hey. Are you all right? Stupid question. How could you be?

Julie: Well, I’m very glad to see you, ciara. And maggie’s back. Isn’t that wonderful?

Ciara: Yes. Oh, it is. Welcome home! So good to see you.

Maggie: Thank you, sweetheart, thank you.

Ciara: Does mom know?

Julie: I spoke with her, and of course, she immediately wanted to come rushing back. And I told her there was no point, because her father is not allowed visitors.

Ciara: We can’t see him?

Julie: He has been declared a danger to himself and to others. He is in isolation, until he is further evaluated.

Maggie: That’ll change soon.

Julie: I hope so.

Ciara: I just–I really can’t believe that grandpa doug would try to hurt you.

Julie: He wouldn’t, and he didn’T.

Maggie: What are you saying, julie?

Julie: I’m saying that the person that hit me over the head with a tray is not my doug. The airport can be a real challenge for new homeowners

Ciara: Who else could have hit you with that tray?

Maggie: I mean, you said the only one in his room was marlena.

Julie: That’s right.

Ciara: You don’t think that marlena–

Julie: No! No. Of course I don’T. What I meant was, the person who wanted to hurt me could not possibly have been doug.

Maggie: Oh, honey. You’re right. You’re right about that.

Julie: I’ve loved him so long. Most of my life, and he has such a magnificent heart, and I didn’t want to believe that he had dementia. But now it’s becoming clear that my darling is… is losing touch with reality.

Maggie: Well, that may be so, but julie, the one thing that he’ll never lose is you. That’s not gonna happen, and you’ve gotta try to hold onto that, okay?

Julie: I will. I will.

Maggie: Okay. Okay. All right. Well, then I’m gonna go and let the two of you talk. I promise you I’ll light a candle for doug this sunday at church.

Julie: He would appreciate it.

Maggie: And if you need me, you call me, anytime.

Julie: Mm-hmm.

Maggie: Okay?

Julie: I will.

Maggie: Day or night.

Julie: Thank you, maggie.

Maggie: Okay.

Julie: Baby.

[Sighs]

Ben: Dr. Evans?

Marlena: Hmm? Oh, I’m fine, ben.

Ben: You seem distracted.

Marlena: No. Not at all.

Ben: Okay.

Marlena: Why don’t you tell me what’s on your mind?

Ben: Okay, well, ciara and I, we just got back from our honeymoon, and we have been having a talk about having a baby.

Marlena: Wow. That’s a big step.

Ben: Yeah. Yeah, it is a big step. And given all the horrible things that I have done in my past, I’m worried it might be a big mistake. I’m already responsible for enough pain.

Gabi: So you may not believe me, but I understand how you feel.

Jake: Gabi, you couldn’t possibly understand.

Gabi: Of course. Of course I could understand. The exact same thing happened to me.

Jake: What do you mean?

Gabi: Well, a long time ago, I was married to this guy named mick. He’s julie’s cousin. And after we split, he tried to rape me, so I hit him over the head with a rock. Kate and sami convinced me to cover it up. They helped me dump his body in the river, only he wasn’t dead. He came back.

Jake: Came back?

Gabi: Yeah, and he wouldn’t stop trying to hurt me. So I shot him, and this time, he did not come back.

Jake: Gabi, I’m so sorry.

Gabi: When someone is that obsessed with trying to control you, they will destroy your life if you let them.

Philip: I mean, what happened after I left? Did you and brady have sex on the fresh ground right in front of the tree that we planted?

Chloe: Oh, my god. Do you hear yourself? No. Rachel was with us.

Philip: I didn’t see rachel.

Chloe: Brady asked me to join them at the pumpkin patch.

Philip: Oh, like a nice, sweet family thing, huh?

Chloe: Will you let me talk, please? I’m the one who asked to stop at our tree to water it after the pumpkin patch. When we got there, rachel asked me what our story was. How you and I fell in love. It was after that that brady finally realized what I’ve been talking about all along.

Philip: Which is what?

Chloe: That I’m with you, and that I’m not interested in being with him.

Philip: And he just suddenly accepted that?

Chloe: Yes. He said he would back off and let us be together.

Philip: I don’t believe that.

Chloe: Oh, my god, but it’s the truth. And he agreed to it because he thought you’d gotten over your crazy jealousy. And I can see now that this dangerous obsession of yours has gotten worse. We’re for those who love to discover.

Gabi: This is not your fault, jake. Philip says he’s gonna use carmine’s story to send you to prison, but it’s his word against yours.

Jake: Okay, well, sure, carmine’s a lowlife, but gabi, I got a rap sheet, okay? It’s not like it’s gonna be easy–I can sit there and convince some judge or jury that I’m a choirboy.

Gabi: You think that they could convict you after all these years?

Jake: Yeah, worst-case scenario, I take the fall for a murder I didn’t commit.

Gabi: And best?

Jake: Guilty for being an accessory after the fact. All right, so… what’s phil want you to do?

Gabi: He wants me to choose between my company and you.

Jake: Hmm.

Gabi: But I’ve already made my decision. There is no way in hell that I am losing you.

Philip: What was I supposed to do when I saw you and brady together?

Chloe: How about ask me? How about giving me the benefit of the doubt for once?

Philip: I trust you. I just–

Chloe: “Don’t trust brady.” Blah, blah. I know. I’ve heard that a million times. I thought that you were fine with the fact that brady and i are friends and we work together.

Philip: I am.

Chloe: Then what the hell was that?

Philip: I mean, come on, chloe. I didn’t find you at basic black at a marketing meeting.

Chloe: Yeah, no, you were spying on me at the tree. Our tree! That’s supposed to symbolize the hope for our future!

Philip: Am I supposed to think that you in brady’s arms was just innocent?

Chloe: Yes, I expect you not to be a jealous ass!

Maggie: What is going on here?

Ciara: I do know what it’s like to look at someone you love and not know what’s going on in their brain. To be afraid that they might hurt you.

Julie: Oh, darling. You and ben, that’s different.

Ciara: I know. I know it is. But I also know how lucky of a man grandfather is to have someone like you fighting for them.

Julie: Well, you know, you marry a man for better or for worse.

[Both laugh] And in nearly 50 years of marriage, I can say that the betters always outweigh the worse.

Ciara: Well, you are both so lucky then.

Julie: I thank god for it all the time. Yep. Doug and I hit the lottery every day of our lives.

Ciara: And I know there will be better days to come.

Julie: Thank you for saying that, darling. Now, you tell me about you and ben.

Ciara: Well, what about me and ben? I mean we are finally together again. We are so happy.

Julie: And you’re back from your honeymoon. So what’s next?

Marlena: Do you want to have children with ciara?

Ben: I love her more than anything in this world, and the idea of starting a family with her is everything I could possibly hope for. But I have battled my demons my entire life. My father is troubled. My sister jordan was, too, and I know tripp is just a medical student, but he also confirmed that my condition could be hereditary.

Marlena: He’s right. It could be. Have you discussed this with ciara?

Ben: Yeah, and she’s willing to deal with whatever comes of it, and–

Marlena: You’re not?

Ben: I was really getting myself there, but then I had this dream, and it just shook me.

Marlena: Tell me about the dream.

Ben: It was in the future, and ciara and I had this young son. And he…

[Sighs]

Marlena: Go on.

Ben: Our son, he had one of my neckties, and he used it to hurt somebody.

Marlena: I understand how disturbing that dream must have been.

Ben: I’ve done some evil things in my life. And I have learned to accept it in order to try to get better. And I try every day to try to make up for what I did, but I truly don’t know if I can risk bringing another soul into this world that might be capable of doing more evil.

Brady: Doug really accused marlena of attacking julie?

John: Oh, he was adamant about it.

Brady: Dad, that’s just evidence of his mental decline then, right? Symptom of dementia?

John: Maybe.

Brady: “Maybe”? What other explanation is there? Why would marlena hit julie?

John: Well, according to doug, marlena attacked him too.

Brady: What?

John: And more to the point, doug said that marlena tried to kill him. When I heard about the science behind the new

Gabi: I’m just gonna tell philip I’m gonna take the deal.

Jake: No, no, no, gabi, wait, please.

Gabi: Wait for what? I’ve already made my decision. I choose you.

Jake: Okay, I know we’ve been doing a lot of joking about who’s gonna be ceo if we take over titan.

Gabi: When we take over titan.

Jake: Okay. What I’m trying to say is, gabi, you’re incredible. You impress me every day with your strength. Your determination. Your lady boss badassery. I mean, you built gabi chic from nothing.

Gabi: And if it goes away, this time, I won’t have nothing. I will have you.

Jake: Hey, look, I appreciate you trying to protect me. It means everything. But I’m not gonna let anybody take your company away from you. So we’re gonna have to find another way to stop philip.

Chloe: What’s going on here is, your stepson is trying to destroy any chance of our relationship working out.

Philip: But I’m the one fighting for it.

Chloe: You know what? I’m done now. I am sick of your obsession, and I’m sick of you not trusting me!

Philip: No, I never said I didn’t trust you.

Maggie: Well, it kind of seemed like–

Philip: Chloe’s right. I was being a world-class jerk, and she doesn’t deserve that. But I’m not gonna sit still while brady steals her away from me again.

Brady: Doug believes marlena tried to kill him.

John: You know, son, it just could be that doug is feeling guilty that he attacked julie, and it’s easier for him just to blame marlena.

Brady: Wow. I can’t even imagine how julie is feeling about all this.

John: You think? Having the one person you love more than anybody in this world be a threat to you?

Ciara: We don’t have to talk about ben and me right now.

Julie: I want to. I want to. It would be a distraction from all the misery and confusion.

Ciara: Okay. Well, in that case, ben and I have been discussing what it would feel like to have a baby.

Julie: Oh, wonderful.

Ciara: Yeah, it is. It’s just–it seems like I’m a little more ready to have a family than ben is.

Julie: Ben doesn’t want to have children?

Ciara: No. He does. He just has some of his own issues that he needs to work out before he can commit.

Julie: Understandable.

Ciara: Yeah.

Julie: Considering his family’s history and his own.

Ciara: Yeah. Well, he is in a session right now with marlena, so hopefully she can help him work through some of his feelings. There’s no one I trust more than marlena.

Ben: Am I just being too cautious? Am I being paranoid?

Marlena: I think your fears are very understandable, and having a child is just about the most important decision a couple can make. It is a lifelong commitment, you know. And I think that every child has the right to be loved and wanted without reservation.

Ben: Without reservation. I know how much ciara wants to have a baby with me, but the more you and I sit here and talk about this, the more convinced I am that it is just not the right thing to do.

Marlena: Are you sure?

Ben: I know how much pain I’ve caused. And even though I found a way to process it, the guilt and the shame, it’s never gonna fully leave me. I can’t chance my child suffering that same fate or me being responsible for more suffering or death. I’m worried that I’m gonna spend my days standing over his or her crib watching and waiting for signs of something bad to happen. I can’t go through with that. I can’t do that to ciara, and I will not do that to my child.

Marlena: I’m so sorry, ben.

Ben: Thank you, and thank you for taking the time to see me.

Marlena: Mm.

[Static crackles]

Devil voice: Don’t let him go, marlena. You need to convince ben weston that he and his wife must have this baby.

Gwen: And as soon as justin plays my recording in his chambers, he will realize that if he does not let you and bonnie go, he’s finished.

Xander: [Exhales] I really hope our plan works. I just hate putting my cousin in this position.

Gwen: Why? Thanks to us, he’s going to have a future with his fiancéE.

Xander: Justin has more morality in his little finger than the rest of the kiriakis men combined. Blackmailing a judge? That will not come easy for him.

[Solemn music]

 

[Beep]

Gwen: I am very sorry to do this, but you–you understand my situation. And I need to be clear, because I know that you and I can have a really good time together. I will sleep with you if you promise to let xander go. I believe that they call that a quid pro quo. Agreed?

Smails: Agreed.

[Beep] You’re in league with xander cook’s girlfriend?

Justin: Yes, I am, and to be clear, you won’t be having sex with her. You also won’t just be dropping the charges against xander cook but also dropping the charges against bonnie lockhart.

Smails: She’s accused of murdering two people.

Justin: Yes, and committing larceny. I’m her lawyer. I’m aware. Now, your honor, I need you to make it all just go away, for lack of evidence or whatever you think will fly.

Smails: And if I refuse?

Justin: Oh, well, then this little recording will, uh, be given to my brother-in-law, jack deveraux at “the spectator,” who will share it with the world, destroying your reputation and effectively ending your career.

Brady: You know, on second thought, maybe I should have justin talk to grandfather, have him convince vic that the idea of me stealing you away from philip is ridiculous.

Chloe: Do you think that would really work? I mean, you literally just told him that you wouldn’t do that, and not only did he blow you off, he went and told maggie that we’re back together again.

Brady: That’s just because he has zero respect for me.

[Scoffs] He has more respect for justin, I believe.

Chloe: Oh, I don’t know, i think his opinion on justin has probably slightly changed now that he’s involved with and engaged to bonnie lockhart.

[Phone rings]

Brady: Hm. Uh…hey, dad, what’s up? Sorry to hear that. Um, is marlena going to be okay?

Jake: I don’t blame gabi for being suspicious. You laid it on pretty thick this morning.

Ava: I didn’t realize that freshly baked muffins would be such an offense.

Jake: The two of you have been at each other’s throats since you moved in with her brother. Why all of a sudden would you be acting all sweet and adorable?

Ava: Well, ’cause I realized things don’t have to be this way. I can use my power.

Jake: To do what?

Ava: Change the dynamic between gabi and me.

Gabi: So, let me get this straight, if I don’t sign gabi chic over to you, you’re going to send jake to prison for murder?

Philip: Correct.

Gabi: That is–that is ridiculous. I will never give you my company, and you will never try to take it away from me by making up some story about my boyfriend. Jake has never killed anyone.

Xander: [Exhales] I wish I could see the look on smails’s face when justin sticks it to him. Ej too, when he finds out I’m free.

Gwen: Mm-hmm, and once the judge stops the charges against bonnie, you know that $1 million that she stole is no longer going to be evidence, is it? The police are going to have to give it back.

Xander: About damn time. I’m going to enjoy spending every penny of that.

Gwen: No, xander, darling, you cannot spend that money. You need to give it back to ej, and he’s going to hire you at basic black.

Xander: Why would I do that? Why would I wanna work for that guy after the way he treated me?

Gwen: You know what, you’re right. Screw ej, he doesn’t deserve to have you working for him.

Xander: Exactly. I mean, I could maybe see rewarding justin with some of that cash, although he’s such a good guy, he probably wouldn’t take it anyway.

Gwen: Yeah, he’s loaded anyway. His reward will be getting bonnie back.

Xander: You know, I’ve never understood the attraction there, but he must really love her if he’s agreed to fight this dirty.

Justin: So, do we have a deal?

Smails: Mr. Kiriakis, justin, we’ve encountered each other in the courtroom many times over the years, and you’ve always impressed me with your command of the law.

Justin: What’s your point?

Smails: I’m surprised and, frankly, dismayed that you of all people would blackmail me.

Justin: Well, you can imagine my dismay when I learned that you had reinstated the charges against xander cook right after he was unceremoniously dropped as a client by ej dimera, so i am losing patience, your honor. Do we have a deal?

Smails: You don’t wanna do this.

Justin: You’re right, i don’T. In fact it makes me sick to even be having this conversation with you, because I happen to believe in playing by the rules. But I also believe in justice, and in the cases of bonnie lockhart and xander cook, there will be no justice unless they’re set free. So, are you going to dismiss the cases against them, or will I be forced to use this recording to have you thrown off the bench?

Brady: Yeah, dad, please don’t worry about it. No, yeah, I’m sure, I’m sure I’ll figure something out. Just please keep me posted if there’s anything I can do, okay? All right, I love you, bye.

Chloe: What’s wrong with marlena?

Brady: [Sighs] She’s not feeling well. My dad thinks she may be overworked. She’s just worn out.

Chloe: And you said you need to figure something out? Is everything okay?

Brady: Yeah, they were–they were supposed to take rachel to the pumpkin patch today. You know, hayrides, corn mazes, the whole thing. But my schedule’s wide open, so I can just take her. It’s not a problem.

Chloe: Aww, she’ll love that. What a little cutie pie. Please send me some pictures.

Brady: I have a better idea. Why don’t you come with us?

Jake: So, what are you saying, you want a truce with gabi?

Ava: I told you, the muffins were a peace offering.

Jake: Eh, kumbaya ain’t your style.

Ava: Yeah, maybe not, but rafe doesn’t wanna live in a war zone, neither do I.

Jake: Do you think gabi does?

Ava: Well, it sure seems like it. From the minute I moved in, she’s been so nasty to me, and I’ve done absolutely nothing to deserve it.

Jake: Hm.

Ava: Look, I know you love her, jake, but, I mean, it’s gotta be so frustrating. She spends all her time fighting with me instead of just being happy with you. I mean, don’t you want it to stop?

Jake: Of course I do. I hate it. I also hate that rafe and I are caught in the middle of it.

Ava: Okay, you want the same thing I do–to make peace.

Jake: I want to believe you right now, I do, but gabi would call me a fool to trust you.

Philip: How well do you really know jake?

Gabi: Well enough to know he’s not a killer.

Philip: But he was in the mob.

Gabi: He got out. He–he wanted to earn an honest living, a normal, safe life.

Philip: In salem?

Gabi: That’s because his ex-girlfriend took–you know what, it doesn’t even matter, because he’s here now, and unlike you, he’s a decent man.

Philip: You admitted you put that spyware on my computer. Are you saying that he wasn’t involved in that?

Gabi: I admitted that? I–I don’t remember. And you have no proof.

Philip: I have proof that jake isn’t the man you think he is.

Gabi: What the hell are you talking about?

Philip: The proof is all right there…that your decent boyfriend was a hit man. As a dj, I know all about customization.

Xander: Look, I know exactly what we should do with at least some of that $1 million. I’m taking you, gwen rizczech, on a tropical vacation.

Gwen: Really? Well, I’ve never been anywhere remotely warm in my entire life.

Xander: Oh, well, get ready for sand, surf, and loads of sunshine.

Gwen: Oh, my. Well, that sounds lovely. As long as you don’t mind me protecting my delicate skin under an umbrella.

Xander: Of course not. No, it will be my pleasure to slather your entire body with sunscreen.

Gwen: [Laughs] Okay. So, tell me then, where would we go? What sort of posh, fancy resort are you thinking about?

Xander: I’m talking about the kinda place that’s so exclusive that you wouldn’t even see another person, unless of course they were coming over to our bungalow to give us a couples massage or serve us dinner under the stars.

Gwen: Wow, well, that does sound magical.

Xander: I just really wanna get away, just go somewhere far away where we can be all alone and finally start getting to know one another properly.

Gwen: I really, really want that too, xander. I mean, it’s crazy, we’ve been so busy putting out all these fires, but we haven’t really had the chance to just focus on you and me.

Xander: Exactly. An island getaway is just what we need. Looking at sunsets, sipping mai tais, maybe some sex on the beach.

Gwen: Ooh, yum, yes, I love that cocktail.

Xander: I wasn’t talking about the cocktail.

Gwen: You naughty boy.

Philip: Take it.

Gabi: No, whatever’s in there is all lies.

Philip: You ever heard of the name jed zanetti?

Gabi: No.

Philip: Well, he owned a bar in philly. Apparently, he made a habit of stiffing the vitalis whenever it came time to collect, so jake was sent in to rough him up a little. He ended up beating poor jed to death and dumping his body somewhere off the jersey shore.

Gabi: That is such bull.

Philip: It’s all right here in the folder.

Gabi: Jake never killed anybody. I don’t believe a word of this.

Philip: I had a feeling you wouldn’T. Turns out there was an eyewitness.

Gabi: What?

Philip: He saw everything up close and personal. And he’s prepared to testify in a court of law that the man you love is a stone-cold killer.

Ava: Honestly, I’m at a loss as to what I can do to win gabi’s trust.

Jake: I don’t think baked goods are going to do the trick.

Ava: How do I get her to stop seeing me as the enemy?

Jake: That’s a tough one. I mean, I so much as say your name, smoke starts coming out of her ears. You know what this reminds me of?

Ava: Hm?

Jake: The time the vitalis and the ligambis were fighting over control of the docks.

Ava: Exactly.

Jake: Yeah.

Ava: The two families were so focused on taking each other out, we both almost lost the waterfront.

Jake: Hm, and if we’re not careful, it’s going to happen again. We gotta find a way to peacefully co-exist.

Chloe: [Sighs] Well, as much as I would love to go and pick out some pumpkins with you and rachel, I actually have a job to do.

Brady: Yeah, but you also have an in with your boss. Your boss, uh, believes in keeping his employees very happy, and let me tell you something right now, there’s nothing happier than a hayride.

Chloe: Brady…

Brady: It’s fun. “Look at me, I’m chloe! I’m having fun on the hayride!” Come on, there’s nothing to do at the office, literally.

Chloe: Nothing urgent, no, but I would feel really bad about playing hooky. You know, I would feel very unprofessional.

Brady: Mm-hm. Is this really about you not wanting to miss work, or are you worried how philip is going to react? Yeah, yeah, yeah

Chloe: Why are you making this about philip when I’m just trying to show you that I’m a good employee?

Brady: It was just a question, that’s all.

Chloe: I admit philip has overreacted in the past to you and I spending time together, but he’s over that now. He knows that we’re friends and colleagues. He’s fine with it.

Brady: Okay, if you say so.

Chloe: [Sighs] Why do you keep doing this?

Brady: What am I doing? What?

Chloe: You know how hard philip’s been working at getting past his jealousy and leaving behind all that old petty nonsense, but you–you keep dragging us back into it. You keep provoking us every chance that you get. All I’m trying to do right now is prove to you that I’m loyal to your company.

Brady: I–I appreciate your loyalty to the company, and i know you are a responsible employee, but, chloe, still that doesn’t change the fact that rachel and I would love the chance to be with you today and hang out with you.

Chloe: Well, why didn’t you just say that and not make it about philip?

Brady: Because old habits die hard, and I’m sorry, I’m just trying–okay, sorry, I’m–I’m gonna do this over again, okay? Chloe, would you do me the honor of accompanying my daughter and I to our adventure in pumpkinland? If it helps you with your decision, it would be very, very good for rachel, who obviously misses her mom a lot, and I’m doing the best I can, chloe, but I’m gonna be honest with you, she could probably use some female energy. Marlena’s been supportive, but she’s got a lot on her plate. And I’m sorry, I’m pouring this on. You’re–you’re obviously not eager to go. I–I don’t wanna pressure you. Just, uh, we’ll be fine, and, uh, you won’t have to worry about upsetting philip. I’m sorry.

Chloe: Well, look, if you think it’s good for rachel, and philip getting upset aside, i don’t think he would object to us trying to take her to have some fun. Oh, besides, uh, the pumpkin patch is really close to where philip and I planted that tree, so I could water it on our way back.

Brady: Okay, that’s great.

Gabi: You know, clearly this carmine person is lying.

Philip: I might agree if he didn’t provide so many specifics, like how he and jake shoved zanetti up against the wall, then there was some punches thrown, and it escalated into him coughing up blood.

Gabi: That never happened.

Philip: Carmine even described the moment that they realized he was dead. He said he and jake were standing there blaming each other for taking it too far. Then jake said something like, uh, “you gotta shut your beak and get rid of the body.” That’s a hell of a lot of detail to make up.

Gabi: Maybe carmine’s seen a lot of movies. I know that jake is not a killer.

Philip: He never kept a secret from you? You really trust him that much?

Gabi: Yes, I do. The person I don’t trust is you. You’re so desperate to get leverage over me, so you can steal gabi chic. Where did you get all this inside information on the mob anyway, huh? Oh, my god, it was ava.

Ava: I agree. Rafe’s house cannot continue to be a battleground between the two couples.

Jake: Yeah, it really is exhausting.

Ava: It’s ridiculous. I mean, I can’t believe we are at the point where gabi thought that I would poison the muffins.

Jake: [Chuckles] Do you remember when the two families had a sit-down to work out their problems on the docks?

Ava: I wasn’t there, but i did hear about it. Everyone thought it was gonna be a big waste of time and that it would only make things worse.

Jake: Yeah, well, I was there, and I can tell ya, firsthand it did not start off well.

Ava: What happened?

Jake: All right, so, your cousin, he bought a bottle of grappa, right? And he set it down on the table, poured a shot for everybody, only the ligambis refused to drink, until cousin angelo drank first.

Ava: Oh.

[Laughter] I’m sure he loved that.

Jake: Oh, yeah, he was furious. Are you kidding me? But–but he stuck with it, because he knew what was at stake, right? So, cousin angelo drank first, and did not drop dead. And before you knew it, everybody was having a great time. We finished off the entire bottle, and found a solution to the problem with the docks. See, that, that is what we need now, a good old-fashioned sit-down between the warring parties to figure out a way to make the peace.

Ava: That, my friend, is a fabulous idea.

Jake: Heh.

Ava: Hm.

[Dark ambient music]

 

Gwen: So, this island is so secluded that you can only get to it by seaplane or boat.

[Chuckles] I mean, look at that, right? White sand, turquoise water. It’s absolute paradise.

Xander: What are you waiting for? Just book it.

Gwen: Okay.

[Door opens]

Xander: Did you play the tape for the slimy judge?

Justin: I did.

Gwen: Right, so, I assume that this means that xander and bonnie are now off the hook?

Justin: Not exactly.

Xander: Well, why? Gwen got him on tape agreeing to trade my freedom for sex. I mean, if that comes out, he’ll be ruined–wha–what happened?

Melinda: What happened is mr. Kiriakis was busted for blackmailing a judge.

[Music intensifies]

Melinda: Judge smails understandably was unsettled when ms. Rizczech made her offer, so he contacted me and followed my advice and was ready with his own recording device.

[Device beeps]

Justin: You also won’t just be dropping the charges against xander cook, but also dropping the charges against bonnie lockhart.

Smails: She’s accused of murdering two people.

Justin: Yes, and committing larceny. I’m her lawyer. I’m aware. Now, your honor, I need you to make it all just go away, for lack of evidence or whatever you think will fly.

Smails: And if I refuse?

Justin: Oh, well, then this little recording will, uh, be given to my brother-in-law, jack deveraux at “the spectator,” who will share it with the world, destroying your reputation and effectively ending your career.

Melinda: [Scoffs]

[Device beeps] Not only is this recording evidence of blackmail on mr. Kiriakis’s part, but it also proves that ms. Rizczech solicited judge smails, and she will be charged accordingly.

Gwen: I wasn’t actually going to bloody sleep with him.

Melinda: But you were trying to entrap him–that’s enough to charge you with.

Xander: Oh, that’s a load of crap!

Melinda: Actually, it’s the law.

[Scoffs] What a rogues’ gallery we have here. Mr. Cook will be going down for drug trafficking, mr. Kiriakis for blackmail, and ms. Rizczech for solicitation. The only person missing here is ms. Lockhart, who, of course, will be going down for murder.

[Solemn music]

 

Jake: So, here’s the plan, we tell gabi and rafe we’re going to have a sit-down.

Ava: Oh, maybe we don’t use that word.

Jake: [Chuckles] Okay, okay. That we’re going to have a dinner, right? And we eat, we drink. Once everybody’s good and loosened up, we put all of our cards out on the table.

Ava: I make the case to gabi that rafe and I care very deeply for one another.

Jake: Right, and you acknowledge to gabi you know she loves her brother. In other words, you show her respect.

Ava: You’re so right, because if I can convince gabi that I’m all about respecting her, which I am, then she won’t feel so threatened by me.

Jake: There you go.

Ava: I mean, honestly I don’t understand why she feels threatened by me now. I mean, it’s not like I could do anything to hurt her.

Gabi: Ava’s a freakin’ mafia princess. Of course you got the dirt on jake from her, which, all of it is lies.

Philip: Ava forced me to launder money for her. Why would I go to her for anything?

Gabi: Then where’d you get it?

Philip: A background check that titan runs on its new employees. Initially our investigative team didn’t find any major red flags, but as they dug deeper…

Gabi: They found a ludicrous story about jake beating a guy to death in a bar?

Philip: I know you don’t want to believe it.

Gabi: I don’t believe it at all, period.

Philip: Unfortunately that doesn’t change the fact that it happened, and now we have to decide what to do.

Gabi: There’s nothing to decide–you fired me, so now I regain control of gabi chic. That was part of my deal.

Philip: Ah, but the deal’s changed, gabi, non-negotiable. So, listen up–if you sign your company over to me, I won’t take this information to the police. If you refuse, I will. I’m pretty sure, with the eyewitness testimony, the authorities in philly have a pretty solid case against jake. He could go to prison for life.

Gabi: So, you’re blackmailing me?

Philip: I’m asking you to make a choice. Your company or your boyfriend– which one are you gonna lose?

[Light laughter]

Brady: I think we got three of the best pumpkins in the patch.

Chloe: We sure did. Hey, rachel, what kind of face do you want your daddy to help you carve into your pumpkin?

Rachel: A scary one!

Brady: Whoa. [Laughs]

Chloe: Oh, I think that’s a great idea. You know what you should do? You should go home and draw a bunch of scary faces on a piece of paper, and then pick your favorite one for your pumpkin.

Rachel: Will you help me?

Chloe: Of course I will.

Brady: That was too cute. Okay, let’s, uh–let’s go home.

Chloe: Uh, okay, well, wait, first, um–uh, we have to water this special tree that philip and I planted together.

Brady: [Grunts]

[Softly] Okay. Here we are again.

Ava: I like this sit-down idea. But like you said, gabi sees red whenever you mention me, so, how are you gonna bring her to the table?

Jake: Leave that to me.

Ava: I just wanna know what the strategy is that you’re gonna use with the most stubborn person on the planet.

Jake: Ha. I’m gonna convince her that, for rafe’s sake and for the sake of our relationship, the fighting has to stop. Nobody wins in a situation like this.

Ava: Sounds good.

Jake: Will you talk to rafe?

Ava: Once you talk to gabi and she’s on board, you let me know, and then I will. So, where’s gabi today?

Jake: Oh, she had an unexpected meeting with philip.

Ava: Unexpected?

Jake: Yeah.

Ava: Well, I hope everything’s okay.

Gabi: You really are scum.

Philip: I hired you, and you betrayed me.

Gabi: Wrong. I saved you. When I decided to relaunch gabi chic at titan, you were hanging on by a professional thread.

Philip: I wouldn’t go that far.

Gabi: Oh, I would. The only reason that you’re ceo is because your daddy took pity on you, ’cause you almost destroyed your entire family, destroyed his company, and–and xander quit out of disgust.

Philip: And now he has complete confidence in me, because I’m doing an outstanding job.

Gabi: Because of the profits that gabi chic is generating, which are going to double when i release that fragrance and jewelry line.

[Sniffing]

Philip: What the hell are you doing?

Gabi: That aftershave. That–I smelled that in my house yesterday. You were there, weren’t you? Oh, no, you didn’t–you didn’t get that dirt on–on jake from a background check. You and ava are teaming up to take me down.

Chloe: That’s great, rachel. Make sure you fill the water to the top.

[Clears throat]

Brady: Did we really have to do this now?

Chloe: Uh, we were right here.

Brady: Chloe, it’s supposed to rain tomorrow.

Chloe: Yeah, but I would rather be safe than sorry. Why are you annoyed by this? I told you I wanted to do this before we left.

Brady: I–look, I know, I know, I’m sorry. Fine, whatever. It’s fine. Hey.

Chloe: Oh, thank you. Oh, that’s kinda heavy.

Rachel: Why is this a special tree?

Chloe: Well, it’s special because your great-uncle philip and I, when we were in high school together, we were sweethearts, and we carved our initials into a tree that was originally right over there.

Brady: But then your uncle, he kinda chopped it down, because he was acting like a spoiled brat.

Chloe: He realized he made a mistake, and he fixed it, so he went and bought us this new one to symbolize a new beginning, and we planted it here together. Wasn’t that so sweet of him?

Brady: Yeah, it’s very sweet. He’s–he’s a–he’s a prince.

[Soft solemn music]

 

Justin: Melinda, melinda, before you arrest us, please just hear me out.

Melinda: I can’t tell you how disappointed I am, counselor. I really thought you were one of the good guys.

Xander: He is!

Melinda: Not anymore, clearly. I am truly shocked that you would get involved with these two. She likes to brawl and bash people’s heads in, and xander cook? Where do you even being with him? How could you let them talk you into being a part of this horrendous scheme?

Justin: ‘Cause I am certain judge smails is in ej dimera’s pocket.

Melinda: Then you should have tried to prove it through legal means. My office could’ve launched an investigation to determine whether or not any crime was committed. Instead, “the spectator” is gonna run a front-page story about your arrest and your your probable disbarment. If you’ll excuse me, I’ll see about you two getting booked.

[Door opens, closes]

Xander: I really am so sorry, mate. Shingles? Oh… you mean bill.

Xander: This is all my fault, for forcing you to go along with our plan.

Justin: No one forced me to do anything. I knew how risky it was to approach judge smails. I knew that if he was threatened, he would find a way to retaliate.

Xander: But you couldn’t have known he’d record you.

Justin: It might have occurred to me if I’d been on my game, if I’d been thinking clearly, sensibly, but I wasn’T. I was operating out of fear.

Gwen: Of what?

Justin: That I wouldn’t be able to find a legal way to keep bonnie from going back to prison. As you pointed out, the odds are stacked against her. I mean, it’d be very difficult to get an acquittal under the best of circumstances. Facing a crooked judge? Trying to get a jury to see past bonnie’s record and damning evidence? I couldn’t take the chance. I had to protect her.

Gwen: You did it for love. That’s beautiful.

Justin: Hm. Except now bonnie and I will be prison pen pals instead of husband and wife.

Xander: We will find a way out of this.

Justin: How? I’m about to be charged with a felony.

Melinda: Come with me, please. I’ll come back for you.

Xander: Poor guy. God, I wish to hell I kept him out of this, I feel awful.

Gwen: Don’T. This was all my stupid idea.

Chloe: Well, thank you, rachel. You helped me do such a fantastic job.

Rachel: Can I go and water some more trees?

Brady: Yes, you can. Just make sure you stay close, so I can see you at all times, okay?

Rachel: Okay.

Brady: Okay. Have fun.

[Clears throat]

Chloe: [Sighs] Was it really necessary to tell her that philip chopped down our original tree, ’cause he was being a brat?

Brady: I could’ve said “jealous lunatic.” I’m sorry. I’m–hey, I’m–I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said that, you’re right.

Chloe: Then why did you? And please don’t tell me, “old habits.”

Brady: Chloe, come on. You know why. I’m just having a–I’m having a hard time accepting the fact that I lost you to philip. Okay?

Chloe: I–I appreciate your honesty, but please try harder, or our friendship is gonna suffer.

Brady: Look, you know, i don’t like to give philip credit for anything, but, uh, I think the guy’s actually beating me on this front. It was gracious of him to invite me to dinner, and it was his idea to plant this tree. That was thoughtful. Maybe the guy has finally changed his ways, and for your sake, I hope he has.

Philip: You’re convinced I’m conspiring with ava, because you think you smelled my aftershave inside of your home? You’re losing it, lady.

Gabi: Admit it, ava gave you that dirt on jake.

Philip: Your boyfriend committed a murder. It doesn’t matter how I found out.

Gabi: It matters to me, because if that information came from that skank, then I’m positive that it is fake. She probably twisted some arms, broke some legs, probably even paid that carmine person to lie, because she hates me, and she wants to ruin my life.

Philip: I knew this was going to be tough for you, but i figured you loved jake more than your company.

Gabi: Oh, just, what, sign on the dotted line, hand over my life’s work, my daughter’s legacy, all because you waved a folder in my face?

Philip: Take this, show it to jake. Show him exactly what carmine is willing to say on the stand, and then you need to decide what you wanna do. If I don’t hear from you soon, I’m going to take a copy of that information to the police, who will charge jake with murder.

Ava: Despite a bumpy start to the day, I’m glad that I ran into you. Good to talk things through.

Jake: Yeah, and look, if the vitalis and the ligambis can make peace, we sure as hell can figure out a way to do it.

Ava: Absolutely. Oh, you know what, angelo always said you were a very smart guy. I’m surprised he let you go.

Jake: Mm. Well, he knew my heart wasn’t in it anymore. I was no good to him.

Ava: Well, you’re turning out to be very valuable to me. Let me know how things go with gabi.

you and I, we were–we were going to be together. For the first time in my life, I–I was actually feeling positive about my future, but, I don’t know, I–I feel like I’m going to lose everything. We’re going to lose everything.

Xander: Hey, we’ve both been down before, and we always find a way to get back up. This time’s no different. Trust me on that.

[Doors open]

Melinda: You’re up, ms. Rizczech.

Gwen: [Clears throat]

Chloe: Wait a minute, did i hear you correctly? Did you actually say something nice about philip?

Brady: Did I? He wants to be worthy of your love. I can’t think of a stronger motivator to turn over a new leaf, no pun intended. I value our friendship more than you know. I would never wanna do anything to jeopardize it, so, yes, I– I accept the fact that you have chosen him, and, chloe, I hope it works out, I really do, and i hope you’re happy together.

Chloe: Thank you, brady. That means a lot to me.

[Tense dynamic music]

Jake: Guessing it didn’t go too well with philip. What did he want?

Gabi: Answer my question first. Did you kill jed zanetti?

Xander: Well, it is. It kind of is. Yeah. You remember what gwen and i talked to you about yesterday?

Justin: Vividly.

Xander: So you remember that we were thinking about maybe getting something on the judge, you know, to prove that he’s corrupt, so he’ll drop my case.

Justin: I do remember. I do remember.

Xander: Fantastic. Well, after you–

Justin: I didn’t agree to go along with it. Let me tell you what your lawyer would tell you, if you had one. What you’re talking about is blackmail, okay? It could blow up in your face. And gwen’S. And you could end up in even bigger trouble than you’re already in.

Xander: It could help you out with bonnie’s case.

Justin: Don’t push it, cook. I’m an officer of the court, okay? I have an ethical duty to tell judges the truth.

Xander: Isn’t what we told you privileged?

Justin: No. Because I am not your attorney. But let me give you some free advice. Don’t even think about going ahead with this little plan, because it’s not only illegal, it’s stupid.

Xander: Problem is, gwen’s already on her way to see him.

Gwen: Well, I’m a friend of xander cook.

Smails: Then get out.

Gwen: No, judge smails, please.

Smails: Young lady, I am not about to have an ex parte conversation with the friend of someone who’s appearing in my court. If you want to communicate with him, you’ll have to go through his lawyer.

Gwen: I understand. But it’s just that, well, xander’s not just a friend. He’s actually probably the best thing that’s ever happened to me. And if you do not hear me out, he might go to prison for something that he has not done. Judge, I just cannot allow that to happen.

Chloe: Brady, what are you doing here?

Brady: Oh, you texted me and said you were gonna be late to work.

Xander: I know that! That’s-that’s why I told her not to confront him with the evidence herself. I told her to bring the tape back to me.

Justin: Whoa, what am I missing? What are you gonna do with the tape? Invite the judge to your cell for a little chat?

Xander: No. I’m not going to confront the judge with the tape. You are. Shingles? Oh… you mean bill.

Justin: Have you heard a word I said? I am not going to have any part in this.

Xander: You might not have a choice.

Justin: And just what is that supposed to mean?

Xander: I just think that, to an outside observer, or a cop, it might look like you have already taken part in it. Think about it. You came to visit the police station yesterday, and you talked to gwen and me all alone in this room for quite a while. And then this morning, you show up here first thing, at the exact time gwen showed up at the judge’s office. From the outside, it really does look like you are part of this. And what would happen if gwen and I said that it was all actually your idea–in fact, you came to us?

Justin: Are you threatening me?

Xander: I really don’t want to. I want to persuade you. And everything that I said yesterday, that still holds true today. You can use the tape to get the charges against bonnie dropped too. And as you said, as an officer of the court, smails will know, if you have the tape, it won’t be so easy to make it disappear.

Justin: Huh. Wow. You are a true kiriakis.

Xander: I’m not trying to screw you over, justin. I swear I’m not. But this could work out for both of us.

Justin: You don’t give a damn about me.

Xander: But you give a damn about bonnie. And the last I heard, she just got denied bail again. Now she’s got to sit all alone in that cell, waiting for a trial where she’s charged with two murders, defended by the man she was about to marry, until he found a dead body in his bed.

Justin: Shut up!

Xander: Can I just ask you just a quick legal question, justin, if I may? Don’t you think the da is going to want to call you to the stand to testify not just about that dead body, but about what bonnie did to your first wife. I mean, aren’t prior bad acts also admissible?

Justin: I said shut up.

Xander: Gwen and I came up with a stupid plan, a crap plan. But it still has a hell of a lot better chance of helping bonnie than anything else you’ve got.

Maggie: I’m sorry you were worried about me. But you know, when summer died, as awful as it was, it was also a relief that she wasn’t in any more pain. When I went to la and I scattered her ashes over the ocean, it was this sense, I don’t know, of calm that washed over me, ’cause I knew she was finally– she was finally at peace.

Brady: I’m really glad you were with her at the end.

Lani: Good. Sorry I was gone so long. I really wanted to help you put them down, but my dad called and said he needed more time.

Eli: Is he still planning on popping the question?

Lani: That is the plan. Just hope it all goes smoothly.

Abe: And for dessert, the pice de résistance, mwah, homemade key lime pie.

Paulina: Key lime pie? Did you say key lime pie?

Abe: I did.

Paulina: Who told you it was my favorite?

Abe: It’s not?

Paulina: I hate key lime pie.

Abe: Well, chanel specifically said that your favorite pie was key lime pie.

Chanel: Since when do you not love key lime pie?

Paulina: Since the day I was born. I’m sorry abe, chanel got it dead wrong.

Chad: Hmm. What? You think you’re gonna finance your film by playing for pocket change in the square?

Johnny: Actually, I was trying to impress a girl.

Chad: Aww, did it work?

Abigail: Sounds like a win.

Johnny: So, is this how you and the wife spent an evening at home?

Chad: Oh, only when abigail can’t tear herself away from what she’s reading.

Johnny: Ohh, which is the script I see. Does this mean you’ve agreed to play marlena?

Rafe: Oh, business must be good as you’re out celebrating.

Ej: Business? This is pure pleasure.

Ej: As a matter of fact, we are.

[Nicole chuckles]

Eli: So you still cool with your dad and aunt paulina being a married couple?

Lani: I think they’re great for each other. Although yes, it will be a little weird that aunt paulina is gonna be my aunt and my stepmom.

Eli: Yeah, well what if she wants you to start calling her mama?

[Lani chuckles]

Chanel: Mama, I have seen you put away a whole key lime pie after a bad day.

Paulina: If I was to eat a whole pie by myself, which has never happened, it would be a florida lime pie. There’s a world of difference.

Chanel: Like what?

Paulina: Well, like for starters, florida lime pie doesn’t have that nasty graham cracker crust. I hate graham crackers, they’re for kids. And I’m all grown up.

Abe: Well, there is pecan pie.

Paulina: Pecan pie. Oh, I’m sorry, abe, I hate that too. Oh, now tammy, if she was here, she’d be all over it. And I keep telling her, “tammy, now that pie, that’s a heart attack waiting to happen.” Oh, I feel so bad that you worked so hard making me pies I don’t like. Oh, but don’t worry about a thing, I’ll just skip dessert. But, ooh, if you two will excuse me, these heels are killing me.

[Grunts]

Chanel: Oops.

Rafe: Is he for real? You two are actually on a date?

Ej: Why is that so difficult to understand? We used to be married, twice in fact.

Rafe: That’s exactly my point. Yeah, I thought you had figured this guy out.

Ej: You know what they say, old man, third time’s a charm.

Nicole: Hold your horses there, old man.

[Ej chuckles]

[Sighs] This is just a date, marriage is not on the table. It’s been a long time, a lot has happened. We’re just catching up.

Rafe: Good to know.

Ej: Hm, may I assume this is now settled?

Rafe: Do you know, I would love to invite you to join us, but you might actually say yes. So if you’ll excuse us.

Ava: Enjoy your dinner.

Chanel: I am so sorry, abe. I didn’t know there was any such thing as florida lime pie.

Abe: Well, don’t worry about it. I mean, your mother’s right, we just won’t serve dessert.

Chanel: You’re–[Quietly] You’re proposing tonight, everything has to be perfect.

Abe: Yeah, we’re still gonna have a delicious meal.

Chanel: No, no. You know what? This one is on me. I am getting you a florida lime pie.

Abe: No, no, we just don’t have–

Lani: How come you got all quiet all of a sudden?

Eli: I was thinking about my grandma. I talked to her while you were out.

Lani: How’s julie doing?

Eli: Doug hit her with something, she was out cold.

Lani: Oh, my god. Babe, that’s horrible. Is she okay?

Eli: Yeah, but it’s clear that she can’t be around doug alone anymore.

Lani: So what is she gonna do?

Eli: Marlena admitted him into bayview sanitarium for his own good.

Lani: Oh, my god. I felt terrible for them both.

Eli: Yeah, me too.

Lani: I’m so sorry that I wasn’t here when you heard all of this.

Eli: It’s okay, you’re here now. So how was shopping with paulina?

Lani: Well, it gave us a chance to talk. We talked about the whole paris trip that didn’t happen.

Eli: Did she explain why she ghosted you like that?

Lani: Well, there was no business trip and it was all my mother.

Eli: Wait, what?

Lani: Mm-hmm. She talked aunt paulina out of taking me to paris, said she didn’t want her spoiling me.

Eli: She let you think that aunt paulina dumped you and she didn’t tell you that she was the one that canceled the whole thing?

Lani: Nope. And neither did paulina. I guess she didn’t want me to turn against my mom.

Eli: Yeah, I guess. Sounds like there’s more to the story than what paulina is telling you though.

Johnny: So you gonna do it? She gonna do it?

Chad: Um, she’s on the fence. Is that right?

Abigail: I think it sounds like fun, but I–

Johnny: But what?

Chad: Like, she’s just–she’s nervous because she’s never really acted before–sorry, professionally acted before.

Johnny: But I don’t want professionals. I want this to feel like it’s happening in real time with real people.

Abigail: A story about demonic possession.

Johnny: Look, the performances if they’re right, are gonna be what grounds the material, okay? You’ve known grandma marlena your whole life, and you’re really smart. You’d be great as her.

Abigail: I hope so. I mean, I do, I have experience with mental illness more than once so I do know what it feels like to have something you don’t understand take over your mind.

Ej: Why are we even talking about rafe? Why does he care who I’m seeing? He’s here with ava vitali.

Rafe: I can’t believe nicole’s actually out on a date with that guy. He’s treated her like trash.

Ava: Well, people do change rafe, I am living proof of that.

Rafe: Yeah. But not ej. Guy was born on third base, he thinks he’s hit a triple. Look at nicole, she’s totally falling for his act.

Ava: You don’t know that, it’s just a date. Like the one we’re supposed to be on.

Eli: I don’t understand.

Paulina: Oh, it’s so sweet of you to make dinner.

Abe: Well, you know, I could not have done it without input from your mother and chanel. Would you like some wine, may I pour it for you?

Paulina: Yes, you may.

Paulina: So where is that daughter of mine?

Abe: You know, I don’t know. She said she had an errand.

Paulina: [Laughs] Probably an errand named giovanni.

Abe: Ooh, is that the boy she’s seeing?

Paulina: His real name’s johnny. He made up the giovanni part.

Abe: Ah. You know, actually, his grandfather used to call him that.

Paulina: How do you know?

Abe: If his last name is dimera then he was my late wife’s nephew, and mine.

Paulina: Ohh, then you know all about him. Well, I only know what I see. He’s a real cutie patootie and he knows it. I only hope he’s good enough for my chanel.

Abe: Well, he was a great little kid, but if he takes after either one of his parents, chanel is going to have her hands full.

Paulina: Oh dear.

Abe: Well, chanel can take care of herself, she gets it from her mother.

[Both chuckling] To you my love.

Paulina: Aww.

Chad: Look, the only reason I work for dimera is because tony insisted. So if I piss off ej and he tries for another power grab then I’m out on my ass.

Johnny: So that’s the only thing keeping you from investing in your favorite nephew?

Chad: I would say it’s a pretty big thing. Who said you’re my favorite nephew?

Johnny: Come on, man, I’m your good luck charm. I was there when you met aunt abigail.

Chad: What?

Abigail: Yes. Yes, he’s right. It was java cafe, I thought you were johnny’s father.

Johnny: See?

Chad: Oh, sure.

Johnny: Yeah, i am responsible for putting you two kids together.

Chad: Uh-huh. Yeah, I remember you said you didn’t like her.

Abigail: Oh, excuse me.

Johnny: Hey, hey. Come on, I was just a dumb little prepubescent kid, how the hell did I know she was gonna be the love of your life and the star of my movie. A movie that’s not gonna happen if you don’t invest.

Johnny: There’s not gonna be a movie to put her in if I don’t have the money for it. And my dad’s pretty much made sure that I don’t have any other family members to hit up.

Chad: Mm-hmm. Okay, so I either piss off ej or I deprive my beautiful wife of doing what she wants to do? Thanks a lot, pal.

Ej: Would you please stop that?

Nicole: Stop what?

Ej: Mooning over rafe.

Nicole: I’m looking at the menu.

Nicole: I always do that. You know, they say it’s a good brain exercise.

Ej: No one says that.

Nicole: Yeah. Well–whatever.

Ej: I thought the stated purpose of this evening was to help you put rafe out of your mind. But since this isn’t working, why don’t we go back to my place? I’m sure cook will be more than happy to whip up dinner for miss nicole.

Nicole: But the waiter just opened a $300 bottle of wine. You really want it to go to waste?

Ej: No I don’t, and it won’T.

Rafe: What’s this?

Ej: A very lovely and expensive parting gift. You two have a great night.

Ava: Thank you.

Ej: Shall we?

Rafe: [Exhales] Okay. Turns out deb’s constipation with belly pain

Eli: I don’t get why pie is so important.

Chanel: I just thought it would be cool if abe could present the ring on top of the piece of the pie. And also because I just really want this night to be perfect. I feel like I’m the one who screwed it up and I need to fix it. For mama.

Lani: That’s really sweet of you. You know, you and your mom have really come a long way since you two just blew into town.

Chanel: Yeah, I guess we have.

Paulina: These are the best short ribs I’ve ever tasted. The potatoes are to die for.

Abe: Oh, I’m glad it’s to your liking. And I know you have had a long day.

Paulina: Mm-hmm. But I had such a nice time being with lani.

Abe: Hmm, I’m glad.

Paulina: Mm-hmm. But she kept going on and on about this trip that she’s planning for her and eli. It was almost as if she was–

Abe: She’s not really planning a trip.

Paulina: She was stalling, right?

Abe: I called her and i told her that I needed more time to get dinner ready and she was–she was great about it. And I’ll tell you that I am so blessed to have your niece in my life.

Paulina: Well, lani, she is a very special young woman.

Abe: I am so grateful that we have the rest of our lives to catch up on all those years that we lost. You know, being her dad, it’s one of the most precious gifts god’s ever given to me.

Rafe: No, no, you can’t drink his wine.

Ava: Why not?

Rafe: Because he could have drugged it, that’s why.

Ava: Ugh, rafe.

Rafe: Okay. Suit yourself. I’m gonna order a beer. Oh, my god, where is the damn waiter?

Ava: Boy, ej sure did get under your skin.

Rafe: No, it’s the guy is such a damn phony, you know. Of all the guys that nicole could have chosen to go out with. What?

Ava: What what?

Rafe: I know what you’re thinking. You think that I’m jealous because ej is out with nicole. That’s what.

Ava: Oh. Well, now that you bring it up, are you?

Abigail: You know, I think this is gonna be between you and johnny. Why don’t you just take me out of the equation?

Abigail: Because, you know, it sounds like a really fun challenge to be in a movie, one I never thought I was gonna get to have. But if it doesn’t happen I’m not gonna be heartbroken about it.

Chad: Okay. But maybe a really fun challenge is exactly what you need right now.

Johnny: Right?

Abigail: I don’t wanna alienate ej.

Johnny: Look, I told my dad whether or not I get to make my movie, I’m not going to work at dimera so he’s not getting his way no matter what happens.

Chad: Well, in that case, okay.

Chad: I’ll fund the rest of your movie.

Lani: I cannot believe that your mom and my dad are actually getting married.

Eli: How is that going?

Chanel: It’s going great. Allie and I are making money and we’re having fun doing it.

Lani: And it hasn’t been awkward or anything between you two?

Chanel: She didn’t like it at all. She said johnny’s a real player. And I didn’t wanna be in the middle so I told the two of them to duke it out and I went home.

Eli: Yeah, good move.

Chanel: Yeah, it was because it’s all worked out now.

[Timer buzzes] Oh, finally. I just hope I’m not too late.

Paulina: Oh, abe. I know we talked about this, but I didn’t expect a proposal so soon.

Abe: Well, it’s supposed to be done with a little more finesse. Would you be good enough to give me an answer? I don’t wanna break a hip down here.

Paulina: Oh my, my answer is yes, yes. Yes.

Abe: Well, here, let me have your hand.

In fact, she was so scared of him when she was carrying his baby she didn’t even want him to know that he was the father, I had to pretend to be the father. Rafe: Okay.

Ava: I do not. Okay. But nicole is a grown woman and she has the right to make her own decisions. And there’s nothing we can really do about it. At least not tonight.

Rafe: Yes, start by getting rid of this damn bottle of wine.

Rafe: But I’m still not drinking the wine.

Johnny: So, uh, really sorry about that. I hope you haven’t changed your mind about investing in the movie.

Ej: This is unbelievable. My own brother is undermining me with my son.

Nicole: Okay. Ej, I get it, you’re madder than hell, but if you don’t calm down, I feel like you’re gonna have a stroke.

Ej: That’s ridiculous.

Nicole: [Sighs] Ej… sit with me. This is supposed to be a date, right? Humor me.

[Eli exhales sharply] Just take a deep breath.

Ej: [Exhales] I don’t understand why everyone’s against me.

Nicole: Well, all that time you were fighting for your life, they were going on with theirs. But chad is not your kid brother anymore. He’s a man with a wife and kids. And johnny’s growing up too and he wants to be his own man and make his own mistakes.

Ej: I wasn’t there for so long. I’m just trying to be a father to my son again.

Nicole: By forcing him to work at dimera enterprises? Come on, he’s not gonna stand for that. He’s got too much sami in him.

[Eli groans softly] Is that what this is about? Sami?

Chad: Don’t worry, nothing can make me back out.

Chad: [Chuckles] Okay.

Abigail: [Laughing] Oh god, you made his night.

Chad: Forget me, what about you?

Chad: I mean, when you–when you told ej to back off, I could–I could have, could have grabbed you, I could have kissed you. I mean, I still could. We could grab a bottle of champagne and go upstairs celebrate being in the movie business together. What do you say? As a dj, I know all about customization.

Abe: Well, to finding love again when I least expected.

Paulina: Oh, and to us and to all the fun that we’re gonna have together.

[Both laugh]

Chanel: Sorry I’m late. This is a homemade, for real, florida lime pie. I made it for you, mama.

Paulina: Oh, baby, that’s so sweet. And that pie, that looks good.

Chanel: Abe, if you would just join me in the kitchen, you can help me serve the pie.

Abe: Oh, you know, that won’t be necessary.

Paulina: Your mama’s getting married.

Ava: Oh. I don’t wanna tell you so I’ll show you. Let’s get the hell outta here. Oh, yeah.

Ej: I don’t know what samantha has to do with any of this.

Nicole: Well, sami cheated on you with lucas, and you feel like you’ve lost control of your life. So now you’re trying to regain that control by telling your son and your brother and everyone else what to do. Ej, you’ve been down this road before. You know, if you try to control people, you’re just gonna push them away. So maybe… maybe if you just back off a little bit, you won’t end up alone.

Ej: I’ll take your advice into consideration. In return, I will make you dinner myself.

Ej: Since someone told me I make a mean omelet.

Lani: Good, auntie p and i are finally done shopping and now we’re both about to head home.

Abe: Already? No, no, you can’t let paulina come home yet.

Lani: What? Dad?

Abe: No, no, please, please. You have to stall her! Now look, lani, you promised, remember?

Lani: All right. Yes, I did promise you. And since it’s important, I will take care of it.

Abe: Thank you.

Lani: No problem, just text me when you’re ready.

Abe: I will.

Lani: Bye, dad.

Paulina: Lani, honey? Everything okay?

[Phone beeps]

Nicole: But am I ready?

Rafe: Nicole.

Nicole: Rafe, um, hi. Uh, I–I was just going.

Rafe: Really? ‘Cause it looked like you were coming in.

Nicole: Uh, that’s what I meant. I’m assuming you’re just leaving?

Rafe: Yeah, I am. So we cannot even say hello to each other anymore?

Marlena: I need to figure this out. Figure out what’s wrong.

John: You know, I was also thinking if your memory’s a little fuzzy, you recorded your session with me, is there any way you might’ve recorded your session with doug?

Marlena: [Gasps] I did record it. I did. I’ve gotta go listen to it.

John: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Right now?

Marlena: Yes. Yes. If I’m gonna be able to help doug, I’ve gotta go do it right now.

Julie: Water coming up.

[Water running]

[Metallic slam]

Demon marlena: Nothing personal, julie. But I’ve gotta do something about that pesky husband of yours. And you are going to be the one that helps me shut him up. I just can’t have him out there telling the whole world about me.

Chanel: Oh, hey, abe.

Abe: Oh, chanel.

Chanel: Beautiful flowers and since you’re in an apron and…[Sniffs] Mmm, something smells wonderful. I assume you’re making dinner for mama?

Abe: I am, yes.

Chanel: And that’s probably what you wanted to talk to me about at the bakery so I will make myself scarce.

Abe: Oh, chanel, wait, wait, wait. I did stop by the bakery because I wanted to tell you that I’m proposing to your mother tonight.

Lani: Just a little misunderstanding.

Paulina: Oh, not with eli, I hope.

Lani: No, no, he’s taking care of the kids. So I can spend more to time with you.

Paulina: Oh, that’s so sweet of you, but honey, I cannot take one second longer in these heels. So I’m going home, taking a load off, and having a glass of wine.

Lani: Wait, but, auntie p–

Paulina: Here are the kids’ present here, here you go. I love you, darling. Love you. See you, love you.

John: Hey.

Kayla: I thought I might find you here. I heard you were looking for me.

John: Yeah, I am. I’m looking for doc also. She came to the hospital to listen to this recording.

Kayla: Um, what is it?

John: It’s her session with doug. She was somewhat hazy on what happened right before he collapsed. She thought maybe she could listen to this and refresh her memory.

Kayla: Well, you know that that tape is protected under doctor-patient confidentiality. I mean, you weren’t gonna listen to that, were you?

John: Well, I was tempted. So damn concerned about doug. You know, that’s actually why I was trying to find you. I just came from him and julie, and doug’s saying some pretty crazy stuff.

Kayla: Like what?

John: Well, he told julie and me that marlena tried to kill him.

[Eerie music]

 

[Button beeps]

Rafe: Oh, hey.

Ava: Hey.

Rafe: Hello.

Ava: Hope I’m not disturbing you.

Rafe: No, no, not at all. No, I was just–just thinking.

Ava: About what?

[Knocking on door]

Ej: How is it possible you look so gorgeous after putting in a 12 hour day?

Nicole: Well, it’s more like 11 hours and 45 minutes but who’s counting. You look pretty spiffy yourself.

Ej: [Sighs] Really? The bear?

Nicole: What about him?

Ej: Well, considering his backstory and the fact he’s now perched on your desk, it makes me wonder if you’re still pining over rafe hernandez.

Nicole: [Sighs] I’m not pining for him, no.

Ej: Well, I’m glad to hear it since the whole purpose of this date is for the two of us to move on.

Lani: Please, just stay for a little while longer. There’s something that I really need to talk to you about.

Paulina: Well, well, okay, then I’ll just kick off my heels right here then. Oh. Oh, so, uh, what’s on your mind, darling?

Lani: Well, I’m thinking about surprising eli with a trip as–as a christmas present. And, uh, I know christmas is a few months away, but if i wanna get us decent airfares–

Paulina: Mm-hmm, you gotta do it well in advance. That is the way to go. Oh, that sounds like a wonderful gift. So what kind of trip? Where to?

Lani: I’m not sure. And of course, we need to schedule time off that week for the both of us and then there’s the babies–

Paulina: You want me to take them? Done. No notice necessary.

Lani: Okay, great. Also, I don’t know where to go. So wanted to get your advice on where we should go.

Paulina: Oh, well, let me see. There’s so many amazing places to visit. Greece is one of my favorite countries. You can go to the islands. Or italy. I have a special affection for tuscany. Oh, such gorgeous scenery and such great food. But it’s hard to find anything but great food in for all of italy.

Lani: You know, I think eli would prefer more of a city.

Paulina: No brainer. Paris. Everybody loves paris.

Lani: Ah, I’ve um, I’ve never been.

Paulina: Of course, you haven’t–oh. It’s all because of me.

Chanel: You’re proposing to my mom?

Abe: Well, that’s what I wanted to discuss with you this morning. But you know, I’m gonna do, uh, I’m going to make this brief since your mother may– may be here any minute. Look, chanel, your mother and i have gotten very close lately. And at this point in our lives why–why wait to make a firm commitment? So I wanna ask her to be my wife, which means that I will be your stepfather. And I wanna know what you think.

Chanel: What I think is you’re the best thing that’s happened to mama in forever. You’re one of those guys who when you say everything’s going to turn out all right, it actually does. So… I know you’ll make mama happy.

Abe: Oh, that’s so, so nice to hear, chanel. And, and, and what about the part about me being your stepfather?

Chanel: As you know, my own dad died when I was real young. So, uh… I don’t really remember what it was like having a dad, but I’m guessing it’ll be nice having a step one like you.

Abe: Thank you for that, chanel. And I guess it would be wonderful having a stepdaughter like you. So do I have your blessing to marry your mother?

Chanel: Yes, you do. Definitely.

Abe: Oh, thank you, chanel.

Kayla: Doug thinks that marlena tried to kill him?

John: Well, it’s obvious that he’s not in his right mind, right?

Kayla: That poor man– to believe such a terrifying thing. Oh, wait, sorry. Excuse me.

John: Yeah.

Kayla: Dr. Johnson. Oh. Oh, okay, I’m on my way. Somebody just pushed the call button from doug’s room.

Doug: Stop! Leave julie alone.

Demon marlena: You can barely walk, old man.

Doug: Don’t you dare touch my wife.

Demon marlena: Let go. Get back, get back!

Doug: I won’t let you hurt her.

Kayla: Oh, my god.

John: Doc, what’s going on in here?

Woo! You are busy…

Rafe: Oh, I was just thinking about A…work thing. What brings you by?

Ava: Well, gabby and jake, they’re at the house and they’ve commandeered the kitchen. So I thought that maybe I could take you out to dinner.

Rafe: Are you asking me out on a date, ms. Vitali?

Ava: Mm-hmm, I am.

Rafe: Oh.

Ava: And, you know, maybe we’ll go to the brady pub. You obviously like their coffee.

Ej: Do you know the first thing I did right after samantha left?

Nicole: I’m scared to guess.

Ej: I removed every single trace of her from our home. It was quite cathartic.

Nicole: Oh, well, I’m sensing there’s an object lesson somewhere.

Ej: You say you want to move on from rafe. Getting rid of this silly reminder might do the same for you.

Nicole: Well, it’s not like I can give it back to him.

Ej: Since you’re avoiding each other.

Nicole: Oh, we’re not avoiding each other. We’re just maintaining a certain distance.

Ej: Right. Well, however you characterize it, since giving the bear back to rafe isn’t feasible right now, how about finding duke a new home altogether?

Chanel: So what’s on the menu for tonight?

Abe: Well, I– I called your grandmother in florida and I got her to send me the recipes for all of paulina’s favorites. So I have them cooking in the oven until paulina gets here so they’re ready when she gets here. And lani is stalling her while I’m cooking.

Chanel: Pecan pie?

Abe: Oh, well, I– I did that earlier, so it’s cooling already.

Chanel: I hate to tell you this, but big mama screwed up. Mama hates pecan pie.

Paulina: Oh, there I go, putting my foot in it again. Nothing new there, right? Oh, oh, I’m so sorry, lani.

Lani: Auntie p, it’s okay.

Paulina: No, it’s not okay. Going to paris was your dream when you were a little girl and that, that trip I promised, it never happened. How did I not even think of that when I opened my fool mouth?

Lani: Auntie p, it’s okay. Really, okay? And I’m sorry that it made you so upset.

Paulina: You’re sorry it made me upset? Honey, I’m sorry that I broke your little heart when you were all of eight years old. What kind of a– person does that to a child? Lani, darling. I think it’s high time that we talk about what happened back then.

John: Hey! Hey, you should be in bed. Come on, doug.

Doug: But you don’t understand.

Kayla: Julie, can you hear me? Julie. Julie, wake up. Oh, there you go. Can you sit up?

John: No, no, no, no. You stay right here. You’re doing great. It’s all right, we’re gonna take care of everything.

Julie: Oh! [Winces]

[Exhales slowly] Oh, I guess so.

Kayla: We’ll get that looked at. Do you remember what happened?

Julie: I don’t know.

Doug: It was–

Marlena: It was a blow to the head.

John: That doesn’t make any sense.

Marlena: I hate to say it, but it was doug. Feeling stressed in your skin?

Abe: I don’t understand. Olivia said she was sure that pecan pie was her favorite.

Chanel: Mm-mm. Big mama’s confused, that’s my aunt tamara’s favorite. Mama’s favorite is key lime.

Abe: Well, I guess I have to make a key lime pie.

Chanel: Well, maybe there’s some ice cream in the freezer.

Abe: Oh no, no, no, no. That won’t do. I mean, this is a special evening and I want everything to be perfect. Please, please tell me you have some limes?

Chanel: Uh, I’ll check. I’m pretty sure we do.

Abe: All right. Then I’ll go look up a recipe.

Chanel: Oh, you know what? Let’s make it together. We can have this thing in the oven in 20 minutes.

Abe: Aw. You are the best.

[Both chuckle] All right, I’m gonna call lani now. I’ll text her.

Lani: It’s all right, auntie p, it was a really long time ago.

Paulina: But pain I–I never meant to cause you. I know it’s still there. So now that it’s– it’s out in the open, I just wanna clear the air.

[Phone beeps]

Lani: Well, um… maybe we can do it another time. I think we both should go home. I know you’re tired and–

Paulina: No, no.

Lani: I really wanna be there for eli to put the kids down.

Paulina: Please, please. Please, not yet, not yet. Let me just– let me just get this out here once and for all.

Lani: Okay. Sure.

Paulina: All those years ago, every time I used to pop in and see you and your mom, your nose was in a madeleine book. Nothing made you smile more than when you dreamed about paris. I wanted to be a part of that dream. So I promised you that summer trip and I dreamed that dream right along with you. But all those letters I– I sent you…

Lani: We were gonna eat homard, visit the louvre, and ride les bateaux.

Paulina: You remember?

Lani: I’ve read those letters until they fell apart.

Paulina: And then I broke your little heart. Never showed up, never apologized, never said a word about it.

Lani: Oh, well, you had an important business trip.

Paulina: Said your mama, who lied. And I was the coward who let her tell that lie.

Lani: You both lied to me? Why? Huh? What is the real reason you didn’t take me?

Ej: Is there a problem?

Nicole: No, not at all. I don’t even know why I held onto him that long, but I do know that I am starving, so–

Ej: Allow me.

Nicole: Oh, thank you.

Ej: Shall we?

Nicole: Yes. Purse– oh, you know what? I–I forgot my phone. Uh, it’s on my desk. I’ll be right back.

[Whispering] Sorry, duke.

[Clears throat]

Ej: Find it?

Nicole: Right where I left it. Must’ve been low blood sugar.

Ej: We can remedy that with a feast at julie’s place.

Nicole: Oh, great.

Kayla: Doug attacked julie?

Julie: No!

Marlena: Well, I–I came in to check on doug and when I walked in, that’s when I saw doug hit julie over the head with this. So, of course, I–i grabbed it away and then that was when you came in.

Doug: Oh, no, no. That is not what happened.

John: Take it easy, buddy. Just try to relax.

Kayla: Get in the chair? Are you able to do that?

Julie: I guess.

Marlena: Here, let me help.

Doug: Do not touch my wife.

John: Don’t get all worked up, here, doc’s only trying to help, doug.

Kayla: Do you remember what happened?

Julie: Not much. I was getting doug a drink of water. I turned my back for a second and something hard hit me and– and it all went black.

Marlena: That was what I saw. Doug hit her over the head.

Julie: No, he wouldn’t do that. Darling, I know you would never do that.

Marlena: I–I know how hard this is to accept, but doug just hasn’t– hasn’t been himself.

Doug: I am myself. You are not. She did it. Marlena did it!

[Dramatic music]

The airport can be a real challenge for new homeowners

Marlena: Wait a minute. I hit julie? What earthly reason would I have to do that? Do you need any more proof that he is confused?

Doug: I am not confused. She did it. She tried to kill my julie.

John: You just gotta try to take it easy, buddy.

Doug: I have to protect julie. I have to, john, ’cause I love her. She’s my wife. You cannot keep me away from my wife.

Marlena: Oh, for heaven’s sake, now this needs to stop. Listen, kayla, I think we’ve got to sedate him.

Julie: Oh, it can’t be that bad.

Doug: I know who you are. I know what you did.

Kayla: I’m sorry, but marlena’s right. It’s for doug’s own good.

Doug: What?

Julie: Don’t! Oh, please don’t!

Doug: Don’t, kayla, please.

Kayla: I’m sorry, doug. I’m really sorry.

Doug: Don’t–[Cries] I love you, julie. I love you, my beautiful girl.

[Sobs]

Ej: My favorite wine. Favorite vintage.

[Inhales and sighs] There it is, nape of wild animal neck. Just a hint.

Nicole: Mm, delicious.

Ej: To moving on.

Nicole: To moving on.

[Glasses clink] I don’t know about wild animal neck but this is heaven. And it is the most expensive wine on the list.

Ej: I’ve always enjoyed the finer things in life. As I recall, so do you.

Nicole: When it’s affordable.

Ej: Well, it’s a good thing you’re not with rafe. I assume he’s more of a beer and pretzels kind of a guy. So what do you say, chateaubriand for two?

Rafe: Yeah, no, I, I will have the report on the da’s desk in the morning. Okay. Yeah, I’ll let you know. Okay, thank you. I’m sorry about that.

Ava: No problem. So?

Rafe: So.

Ava: Ready to go to the pub? What ya thinkin’? A burger, some chowder?

Rafe: Yeah, I’m thinking I was actually at the pub for breakfast and for lunch so maybe we could do something different, like, um– I don’t know. Oh, what about julie’s place? Yeah, you could check on your job application.

Ava: Yeah, julie’s place sounds great.

Rafe: Okay.

Ava: But I have rethinking my career goals as of late. You know, why limit myself to the kitchen when there’s so many opportunities out there?

Rafe: Oh, right, yeah. Like working for phillip.

Ava: That’s one, yes. But I also have been putting the word out everywhere that I can think of to see who’s hiring.

Rafe: Okay. Well maybe you can tell me all about it over dinner.

Ava: Mm.

Rafe: Okay?

Ava: Yes, but you know what?

Rafe: Hm?

Ava: Don’t really–[Laughs] Don’t wanna bore you, you know?

Rafe: You never could. Okay.

Ava: Okay?

Rafe: Okay.

Ava: Dinner? [Chuckles] Thanks.

Paulina: The real reason that trip never happened, I was being selfish when I made that promise of seeing paris together.

Lani: How were you being selfish?

Paulina: It was all about me. I wanted to be the one to give you your heart’s desire, to do something special, just the two of us. I cut your mama out when I made it our little secret and that was just, that was just plain unfair. I had no right.

Lani: Why not?

Paulina: There are two secrets. Abe is not lani’s father and tammy is not her mother.

Marlena: How can that be? Tamara raised her.

Paulina: Yes, she did. But I gave birth to her. I am lani’s mother. Serena: It’s my 3:10

Lani: Auntie, what is it?

Paulina: I couldn’t take you on that trip because when I told my sister about my big plans and how I’d sworn you to secrecy, she shut me down. Hard. She was right.

Lani: She thought you were being too extravagant. Like when you got me the pony or sent me all those gifts that she made me send back. She thought you were trying to spoil me.

Paulina: Tammy was right. She raised you with a firm hand. Look, look how you turned out. You’re a strong, wise, independent young woman. And if she’d let me spoil you the way I really wanted to, who knows.

Lani: Or your heart was in the right place.

Paulina: But I broke your little heart into a million little pieces and I don’t blame you if you never, ever forgive me.

Lani: Auntie p, I already have forgiven you.

Paulina: You have?

Lani: Yes. Please, please do not ever worry about this again. Okay? I love you so much.

Paulina: Oh, you just don’t know how much this means to me.

[Sobs]

Lani: Come here. I come from a long line of huggers.

[Both chuckle]

[Phone beeps]

Paulina: Oh, let me guess, your man wants you home.

Lani: Something like that. And I think you earned that glass of wine.

Paulina: Oh, hoo, oh. Oh, yes.

Abe: Oh, you have some mad baking skills, my dear. I mean, you know what? I can’t believe you made a pie that fast.

[Chuckles] Oh, you know what? This table is not ready. Candles, I need candles and, oh, music–

Chanel: On it.

Abe: Oh, no, no, no. You gotta be exhausted. Let me–

Chanel: No way, I’m into it now. Your job is to get the romantic playlist going.

Abe: Okay, thank you.

Chanel: Oh, but there is one thing.

Abe: Sure, name it.

Chanel: If you don’t mind, I’d like to hang out for a little bit so I can see the look on mama’s face when she gets here.

Abe: Well, there’s nothing I’d like more.

Ej: Mm, you have to admit this beats a growler of locally brewed swill, doesn’t it?

Nicole: Really? Rafe again. I thought that defeated the whole purpose of this dinner.

Ej: You’re quite right. We did agree to put rafe and samantha in the review mirror and so we shall.

Ava: [Chuckles]

Rafe: Ah.

Nicole: [Sighs]

Julie: Doug would never hurt me.

Kayla: Julie…

Julie: Well, it doesn’t make any sense, kayla. I was getting a drink of water, I just turned away for a second. The man is so weak, he can barely walk. How did he leap up, grab a tray, hit me so hard on the head that I passed out?

Kayla: You know, when tripp and I were taking care of him after he collapsed, he woke up and suddenly, almost violently grabbed tripp’s arm. We were amazed at his strength. You know, sometimes in cases like this–

Julie: He’s not a case. He’s my husband. And he doesn’t have dementia and he didn’t do this.

Kayla: There was no one else in the room.

Marlena: Except marlena.

Marlena: You know, as a professional, I’m–I’m trained to be objective but… when it comes to our sweet doug, oh, I find this heartbreaking.

John: I’m sure it is. So you wanna tell me what happened?

Marlena: I did, I told you.

John: I mean, why did you leave your office and go to doug’s room? You said you wanted to go to your office because you were fuzzy on the details. You wanted to listen to the recording of the session to see if it would jog your memory. Did it?

Marlena: It did.

John: Okay, what is it? What did you learn?

Marlena: I learned that doug is more of a threat to julie than I had thought.

John: More of a threat? In what way?

Marlena: He said he wanted to kill her. On the outside, I looked fine.

Nicole: Well, fancy meeting you here. Hi.

Rafe: Yeah. Yeah, we were gonna go to the pub–

Ej: Mm, nothing like a good burger and beer, hm?

Ava: Ej dimera, you remember me?

Ej: How could I forget? One of my most notorious clients. You’re looking well. Still very beautiful.

Ava: I heard that you were in pretty bad shape for quite a while. Looks like you’ve made a full recovery.

Ej: I am much better now.

Rafe: So you two are out celebrating, huh? Business must be good.

Ej: Business? This is pure pleasure.

Paulina: Ooh, walking in high heels should be an olympic sport. Oh! [Chuckles] Well what’s this– mmm, something smells delicious. So what’s the occasion?

Abe: Well, I got inspired and thought it would fun to make all your favorite dishes. We have braised short ribs with red wine sauce, oven roasted potatoes, sauteed wild mushrooms. For dessert, the piece de resistance, homemade key lime pie.

Paulina: Key lime pie. Did you say key lime pie?

Abe: Yeah, I did.

Paulina: Who told you that was my favorite?

Abe: It’s not?

Pauline: I hate key lime pie.

Marlena: That’s why I went racing to doug’s room. And if I hadn’t gotten there when I did–

John: You really think doug would’ve killed julie? This is hard to process.

Marlena: I know. I believe that doug has lost his mind.

John: Mm.

Marlena: I think he’s gone around the bend.

John: Oh, baby. Doug also told me something that upset me as well.

Marlena: Oh, what was that?

John: Earlier he said that– that you had tried to kill him.

Marlena: Why would he say such a thing? He–he’s tried to kill julie. Poor julie, she’s spent her whole life loving this man and it’s come to this. It’s just–it’s tragic.

John: Hey.

Kayla: Well, doug is finally resting. I’m gonna take julie for an x-ray just to make sure everything’s all right.

Julie: I don’t need an x-ray. I’m just so worried about doug.

Marlena: We all are.

Julie: Marlena, I know what you thought you saw, but you are wrong. And I will shout it from the, from the rooftops. My darling would never attack me.

Doug: No, it was not me. I did not hurt julie. It was him. Please, god. Please, don’t let him hurt julie anymore. Please, please, god.

Marlena: Julie, I know how difficult this is to accept.

Julie: Because he didn’t do it and you keep accusing him over and over again when he told you he was innocent. You’re all frightening him, all of you. How can you? How can you?

Marlena: Julie, I’m so sorry, but you need to face the truth. I know how painful this is for you. How painful it is for all us who love doug so much. But in my professional opinion, doug has become a danger to himself and to others. And so it, it needs to be my recommendation that doug– that doug be committed to bayview.

Ben: We really shouldn’t have bought this much stuff in new orleans, babe. I’d have carried you across the threshold but I think I threw my back out coming up the stairs.

Ciara: Well, how many chances do you have to get canned jambalaya and mardi gras beads? And besides that whole threshold business, that’s just a silly tradition. We are home. We are here in our own place. We’re married. We’re married babe. And we have tons of cool memories of our first trip together. That is all that I really want.

Ben: Welcome home, mrs. Weston.

Ciara: Same to you, mr. Weston.

Ben: Here we are, what do we do first? Do we unpack? Or–

Ciara: Well, you know what I want.

Both: Cheeseburgers.

Ciara: Yes.

Chanel: [Ahem] Come on, you two. Get a room.

Johnny: So what do you say? You sound like you’re interested and like I said, you would be perfect for it.

Tripp: Sorry about that.

Allie: Yeah, didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable.

Chanel: Hey, it’s okay. I was joking, but you two might wanna tone down the pda in front of the bakery. We do have our professional reputation to think of.

Tripp: I wouldn’t worry about it, I mean your free samples went like hotcakes.

Chanel: Hot enough for people to pay money for them?

Allie: Oh, definitely.

Tripp: And it is also quitting time. So how about we have a little happy hour to celebrate?

Allie: Yeah, I mean, I have my nanny for another hour. Guess one glass of wine wouldn’t make me an unfit mother, right?

Tripp: Definitely not. Chanel?

Chanel: I– I don’t know.

Allie: Come on. You know what? We can see if the bartender will make us jean michel’s signature aperitif.

Allie: Well, an aperitif is what the french call a cocktail that you have before dinner.

Allie: Yeah, just for the weekend–anyway this drink was so good that we made him like show us his secret formula. You know, I bet we could get the bartender at our new place to make it.

Chanel: Thanks, but I’m not used to being on my feet all day. I’m gonna close up and go home, watch something on my tablet and get to bed early.

Allie: Come on. It’s the weekend.

Chanel: I don’t know about you horton, but these 4:00 A.M. Wake-up calls are kicking my ass.

Devil voice: It’s been so long since our spectacular collaboration. I wasn’t sure if we would ever recreate that glory. Luckily, I found the key that opened a path to you in that vulnerable old man. He was the perfect vessel to entice you.

Marlena: He doesn’t deserve this.

Tripp: So you think that’s gonna live up to jean michel’s signature whatever that is?

Allie: Yeah, this place has a great happy hour. You guys should join us. If that’s okay with you?

Ciara: Yeah.

Ben: Allie, what are you drinking over there?

Allie: It is jean michel’s signature aperitif.

Ben: A what, huh?

Tripp: I have gin and tonic

Ben: Okay

Ciara: My personal favorite.

Tripp: I honestly couldn’t tell you what’s in allie’s drink.

Allie: Yeah, we just got them–I think they’re a little short-staffed tonight.

Tripp: Well, you know what, here. Why don’t you take my drink since it’s your favorite.

Ciara: Aww, thank you.

Tripp: And ben and I can go to the bar and grab some more.

Ben: That sounds like a plan.

Allie: So how was the honeymoon?

Ciara: The honeymoon was absolutely perfect.

Allie: Details, details. I wanna hear everything.

Chad: So you want abby to be your grandma?

Johnny: Well, not in real life, but…

Chad: Oh, right. So like it’s a–like a–a film director role play little thingy.

Johnny: In–in a way. Yeah.

Abigail: Stop teasing him.

Chad: What?

Abigail: Johnny wants to make a movie about demonic possession and he wants me to play marlena.

Chad: Really?

Johnny: She’d be great. She’s a natural actress.

Chad: Okay, when did–when did, “the sami brady story” become about demonic possession?

Johnny: Well, since I realized the audiences like a good horror movie and still a “sami brady story” but grandma’s a big part of mom’s story.

Chad: Uh-huh. And like you said, a whole genre is gonna be easier to sell so better investments?

Johnny: You must’ve read my mind. Grandpa roman and lucas have already agreed to put money into my movie. And you’ve been really supportive of this project, so I was thinking maybe–

Chad: Yup, I would love to hear your pitch.

Johnny: Great. I’m still working on getting some storyboards together, but they won’t show what abby can do as an actress.

Chad: No pressure or anything. Well, what do you think about all this?

Abigail: I am not sure.

Johnny: Look, I can see that you guys still need some time to talk. Make up your minds. But I have a working draft of the script if you wanna take a look at it.

Chad: Yup.

Johnny: Great. I have marked the parts that I really want you to read. If you could read it sooner rather than later, I would really appreciate it. I know you’re not gonna be able to turn me down. Now, if you’ll excuse me there’s something I have to do.

Devil voice: Thanks to the cursed power of john’s prayer, you and I were torn apart. You had so graciously invited me in. I was tucked up, warm and cozy. Then that so-called priest had to go and invoke god.

[Intense music]

 

John: Doug, hey, hey, hey, buddy. Hey, hey, hey, take it easy–take it easy. Getting worked up like this isn’t gonna do you any good.

Doug: I have to convince you. You have to believe me, marlena really wants me dead.

John: Doug, listen to me. Listen to me doug, I want you to–are you listening to me?

Doug: Yeah.

John: Okay, everything’s gonna be okay. Marlena and I, we both love you. We’re really worried about you right now. We’re gonna figure this out. Now, what I’m gonna do right now–listen to me– I’m gonna go get kayla and I’m gonna have her come back here and she’s gonna give you a little something to calm you down.

Allie: So new orleans is a good place to honeymoon?

Ciara: Oh my god, it’s the best. And my mom and dad really loved it there, so that made it all the more special. Oh my god, allie, it was everything i could’ve wanted in a honeymoon. Except…

Allie: What happened?

Ciara: Nothing. Nothing happened. It’s–okay, so ben and I were camping and we were having the most romantic morning, and I sort of blurted out that I wanted to have a baby.

Allie: What was ben’s reaction?

Ciara: Well, it pretty much killed the romantic mood.

Allie: So he wasn’t super into the idea, huh?

Ciara: To put it mildly, no.

Allie: Well, honestly, I kinda get it. Especially now. I mean, don’t get me wrong. I love henry with all my heart, but people are not kidding when they say having a kid changes your entire life. After everything you and ben have been through, I think you guys deserve to have time to just be newlyweds. You know, be free to do whatever you want. Like, are you gonna wanna keep your motorcycle when you have a baby to think of?

Ciara: Yeah, that’s what ben said.

Allie: See, he just wants you all to himself for a little while.

Ciara: Yeah, that’s true. But allie, that’s not all he said.

Ben: So you really don’t even know what’s in allie’s drink, huh?

Tripp: She told me a few ingredients, but I forget now. And I–I think we’re safer with two drafts.

Ben: Gotcha. Cheers.

Tripp: Yeah, let’s go join the girls.

Ben: Hey, tripp, hang on a second. You’re like a real doctor now right?

Tripp: Med student.

Ben: But you treat patients?

Tripp: Yeah.

Ben: Just wondering if maybe you’d be able to answer a little medical question for me?

Tripp: Okay are you–are you sick?

Ben: No, no, no. I mean, not the way you’re thinking. Anyway, the question is, say somebody committed a horrible crime more than once. Is it possible to then pass that evil onto their own child?

Devil voice: As soon as you let me in, I feel you fighting me. But I was certain that in time, you would succumb to my desires. Be my willing instrument once more. Our first effort? Getting rid of that old man. You were a vision holding that pillow over his head. But then john had to say that prayer. Tell that old cronie how much he loved you, and I could feel my grip loosening. And that damned detective had to walk in. Before I could stop it, I’d been cast out. Once again reduced to the outsider looking in, but no more. It’s time for you to let me back in, marlena. I will not allow you to leave me, not when we have so much work to do.

John: Hey, julie.

Julie: You’re not with doug?

John: Well, I just stepped out to find kayla. Doug woke up a few minutes ago, but he’s saying some very strange things.

Julie: Strange? How strange? Just tell me john.

John: He said–he said marlena is trying to kill him.

Julie: What?

John: Yeah.

Julie: Oh my– are you sure?

John: I–I know it doesn’t make any sense, but yes julie. I’m–I’m sure that’s exactly what he said.

Abigail: What?

Chad: Script must be a real page turner, huh?

Abigail: I get to be a panther.

Chad: Well, I’m guessing they’ll probably just sub a real panther for that, right?

Abigail: Hmm.

Chad: I guess unless–unless johnny doesn’t wanna use cgi.

Abigail: Yeah, and you’re probably right. But I’ve–the scene before, it shows marlena harnessing her panther energy.

Chad: Panther energy?

Abigail: I know this all sounds really out there, but it is my job to make it all sound believable.

Chad: Your–it’s your job? You’re not seriously thinking about doing this. Are you?

Julie: It has to be the medication. It’s making him paranoid. Once the drugs wear off, he’ll know that isn’t true. He’ll know–he knows marlena loves him.

John: I reminded him of that.

Julie: And what did he say?

John: Julie, he just got really upset that I didn’t believe him–that’s why I’m trying to find marlena just to take a look at him.

Julie: Thank you, john. Good. I’ll–I’ll go sit with him.

John: All right, I just hope he’s calmed down a little bit.

Johnny: That was right before I wanted to be a filmmaker and right after I gave up on being an fbi agent.

Chanel: Oh-oh, you just keep reinventing yourself, huh? You sound like me.

Chanel: Although, I don’t know how good you’d be at being a g-man.

Johnny: You kidding me? I would be the best.

Allie: Ben thinks that he’s going to pass his genes on to your child? Like the ones that made him mentally ill.

Ciara: Yeah, but he doesn’t just think it, he’s convinced of it. And he wasn’t just mentally ill, allie. He killed three people.

Allie: But, ciara, that doesn’t mean that your child is going to do that. I mean, look at henry’s father. And I don’t think that henry is gonna turn out like that. You know, rapist.

Ciara: No, and you shouldn’t be worried because you are an amazing mother and henry is so loved by so many people. And I’ve tried convincing ben that his problem was a father who beat him. Not that he has evil in his genes. I told him that she would be an amazing dad, but what if I can’t convince him? What if he never changes his mind? What if he doesn’t ever wanna have kids with me?

Tripp: So you’re asking me that if you and ciara had a baby–

Ben: Would our kid potentially be mentally ill like I was? I mean, could he end up homicidal?

Tripp: Ben, there’s not a homicidal gene, okay? You can’t pass something like that on to your children. But–but if you committed those crimes when you’re in a psychotic state–

Ben: I was. I’m still taking the medicine to control it.

Tripp: Psychosis can be genetically inherited. Which means your kid would have what they call a genetic predisposition toward having it too.

Ben: So I’m right?

Abigail: Trust me. I was just as surprised as you are that johnny asked me to play the part, but for argument’s sake, what’s so crazy about it?

Chad: Well, I mean, you just got back from–from boston. So maybe it’s–maybe it’s a little bit too soon to be jumping into something that you know absolutely nothing about.

Abigail: I know all kinds of things about it. I’ve seen movies.

Chad: Okay, okay. I’m–I’m gonna say this in–in the nicest way possible. No disrespect, but babe, you can’t act.

Abigail: I can so. I was the lead in, “stop that pancake” in second grade.

Chad: All right, and that prepared you to play a psychiatrist possessed by the devil?

Abigail: Look, johnny doesn’t wanna use real actors. And he thinks I can do it so, thomas and charlotte are gonna be at school. I’ve got time on my hands.

Chad: Well, what about your job at the “spectator”?

Abigail: And like you said, I’ve already been on leave of absence for four months. It’s run smoothly without me. I think it would continue to do so for a little while longer.

Chad: Wow, you’re serious about this aren’t you?

Doug: Oh, julie, thank god. Thank god.

Doug: Where’s john?

Julie: John went to get kayla ’cause kayla’s gonna know what to do.

Devil voice: There may be another way to get him out of the picture. But only if you back me up. You have a choice to make, marlena. Is it him or me? Shingles?

Allie: I’m so sorry you’re going through all of this and that ben is so worried about passing along his genes.

Ciara: It never even occurred to me that he would.

Allie: What if…

Ciara: What if what?

Allie: I’m just thinking that if ben is so worried about passing his genes along, you guys can adopt.

Ciara: No, yeah, no, we can’t go down that route.

Allie: Why not?

Ciara: Well, think about it. We would have to find an adoption agency that doesn’t mind that the adoptive father used to be a serial killer.

Allie: No, you don’t have to go through an agency. Just hire a lawyer. Yeah, when I was pregnant with henry, I was going to do an open adoption. So I would know everything about the adoptive parents. I mean, you and ben could do the same thing. You could probably even find someone in town and then they would know that ben is not that person anymore. And you would know everything about the birth parents and ben wouldn’t have to worry about his genes at all.

Ciara: You know, that never occurred to me. I know that ben and i would love any baby. No matter if it was biologically ours or not. I just, allie, I hate that he thinks that he’s cursed somehow. It really just breaks my heart, you know?

Allie: I know.

Ben: So you’re telling me, that if ciara and I have a kid, he could potentially end up just like me?

Tripp: He or she could inherit your mental illness, yeah. But it’s also entirely possible they wouldn’T.

Ben: There’s something else you might not know. My sister, she wasn’t right either.

Tripp: There is still no way to predict, okay? Like, look I’m sorry, man. I wish I could tell you something to make you feel better.

Tripp: Hey.

Ciara: Hey, so what were you guys talking about?

Tripp: Actually, we were trying to figure out what was in this french dude’s special drink.

Chanel: So any other careers you considered?

Johnny: Well, I went through an astronaut phase and when I was a kid, I wanted to be spongebob.

Chanel: I wanted to be the little mermaid.

Johnny: No way.

Chanel: What? Are you saying I couldn’t be ariel?

Johnny: No, I’m saying your legs are way too good to be covered up in half a fish costume.

Chanel: You are–you’re pretty good at this wooing thing.

Johnny: Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.

Chanel: [Yawn] Sorry.

Abigail: I guess I am serious. You know, I think I would really like to do something outside of my comfort zone. Something that’s just not so me. It would get me out of my head and get me to stop focusing on my problems so much, and I think maybe it would help me get over what happened with the play.

Chad: What play?

Abigail: Yeah. Oh, but it feels like it was yesterday. And I know it seems silly, but I was–I was the lead. I was the pancake, you know, and we were all there. It’s dress rehearsal and I kept forgetting my lines. I just, I could not remember. And mrs. Langer, she recast me, like right then, and right there, you know, in front of the whole class and I just–i just remember feeling like, “oh my gosh, I have to go home.” And my whole family is planning to come, I have to go and tell them that I’m not going to be in the play at all. Oh, my gosh. I’m crying. This is so silly. But I just remember the look on my mom’s face and she was just so disappointed in me and–

Chad: Abby, I’m s–sorry. I–I–I honestly, I had no idea that– that actually happened. Ms. Langer sounds like a–a real bitch.

[Henry cries]

Ciara: You know, I am really glad that we ran into tripp and allie at the bar. That was really fun.

Ben: Yeah, it was.

Ciara: So what did you and tripp really talk about? Babe, I’m the daughter of two cops. You really think I was gonna buy that secret ingredient story?

Ben: It was nothing.

Ciara: Look, I know that you and tripp haven’t always had the best history, but–

Ben: It wasn’t that. I was just asking him his medical opinion, whether or not he thought our baby could end up with my psycho genes.

Ciara: Okay, whoa, first of all, you don’t have psycho genes. And second of all, no one can predict what kind of baby we’ll have, not even a doctor. And I’m sure tripp told you that.

Ben: Well, he did say it was possible that mental illness could be genetic, but you’re right, he couldn’t exactly answer my question.

Ciara: But I think I know who can. Marlena.

Ben: Dr. Evans. I thought you just said, no doctor can tell us how our baby would turn out.

Ciara: Yeah, but maybe she can give you some advice, tell you who to talk to. She’s a therapist, ben, and you guys have a really great relationship. And when it comes to helping people, she always knows exactly what to do.

Julie: Would you like some water sweetheart? I’ll get you a drink. Be right back.

John: Hey, doc, have you seen kay…la? Where–where the hell has she gone?

Julie: Water coming up.
