Tripp: Well, you know, I only do it for the doughnuts. It’s got nothing to do with spending a little extra time with you or anything.

Allie: Oh, no. My illusions are shattered.

Tripp: I love you.

Allie: I love it when you say that.

Tripp: That’s good, ’cause you’re gonna be hearing it for the rest of your life.

Allie: That’s fine by me.

Tr: Salem has a certain amount of charm. I’m ginning to think we can shoot the whole movie on location, interiors and everything. Maybe I can even get the real marlena evans to do an unbilled cameo. Oh, I’m absolutely serious. We’re calling the movie “possessed: The marlena evans story,” right? So what could be better than shooting it where it actually happened? Oh, you assume correctly. I won’t be leaving this town anytime soon.

Paulina: You cannot blow this. You’ve been working your whole life to make sure that lani doesn’t go anywhere near ray coates. Now, here he is, in salem. You go in there. You do whatever it takes to make sure he never finds out he has a daughter.

Lani: Ah, a-ha, okay. I just need to get them into their snowsuits, their scarves, their hats. That should take about an hour and a half. Okay.

[Knocking on door] Paulina.

Paulina: Pack your bags, baby. We are done freezing our behinds off. We’re going south for the winter.

Jake: You’re really quiet this morning.

Gabi: I’m worried about rafe.

Jake: Rafe is one of the most honest guys I know. These charges? They’re not gonna stick.

Gabi: I hope you’re right.

[Cell phone beeps]

Jake: That phone. It’s blowing up this morning. Who is that?

Gabi: Johnny dimera. Who do you think?

Jake: Well, little twerp’s persistent.

Gabi: He wants me to go over to his place. He thinks we need to talk.

Johnny: About to work out. Why don’t you join me? We can do some heavy breathing together.

[Cell phone beeps]

[Knocking on door] Oh, did you come here to beg me to take you back?

Chanel: I wouldn’t lower myself to do a thing like that.

Johnny: Then what do you want?

Chanel: I brought you something.

Johnny: Aw, you shouldn’t have.

Chanel: Oh, it’s my pleasure.

[Tense music]

Johnny: Are these divorce papers?

Chanel: Beat you to it, didn’t I? My lawyer said I didn’t have to give them to you myself, but I wanted the satisfaction of saying, john roman dimera, you have just been served.

Johnny: You think you’re gonna get this much money from me?

Chanel: It’s called spousal support, and yeah. I do.

Johnny: We were married for, like, two days.

Chanel: So? You have dimera enterprises, and I have a bakery. And you were so hot to get married that you didn’t make me sign a prenup, so my lawyer says I can take you for a lot.

Johnny: You know, my dad was right about you. You just married me for my money.

Chanel: I married you for love, and you know it. And then you treated me like dirt, so you had your fun, but now, it’s gonna cost you.

Jake: Let me see your phone. There are no secrets between us, right?

Chanel: Right.

Jake: [Laughs] I thought the dude was supposed to have some sort of fancy education. There’s hardly any words here. It’s all emojis and smileys, the little devil guy.

Gabi: That’s how people his age communicate.

Jake: Well, I especially like this last one about how you two should get sweaty together. The big man talking about his workout.

Gabi: See you later.

Jake: Where are you going?

Gabi: Where do you think I’m going? I’m gonna go close the deal with that little devil. Doesn’t mean what he thinks it means.

Jake: So wait a minute. If johnny gets what he wants, he’s gonna get you in a bed, and you’re gonna be running titan. And with ej in jail, all he’s gotta do is freeze chad out, and he can run dimera enterprises himself. And where does that leave me, huh? Here with nothing.

Gabi: Stop pouting, jake. Johnny is not gonna get his way, okay?

Tripp: I can’t wait to get off work, so we can pick up where we left off.

Allie: I can’t wait either, and, tripp, I’ve been thinking. You know what, never mind.

Tripp: Come on, come on. What were you gonna say?

Allie: Just that I’ve been feeling a little guilty lately, like I’ve been distracted sometimes, when we’re together I mean. I just haven’t been connecting with you as much as usual.

Tripp: I haven’t noticed that.

Allie: Really?

Tripp: I mean, I guess sometimes I sense that you’ve got your mind on work or what happened between chanel and johnny, but I don’t expect you to be focused on me all the time.

Allie: I know, I know that, and I don’t expect that of you either. Just, I feel like, even if you’re not focused on me all the time, you’re still there for me 100% and for henry.

Tripp: Well you and henry, you’re the most important people in my life.

Allie: You’re important to me, too, tripp, and henry, but I’m sure you know that, ’cause you must notice how he lights up every time you walk in the room and how you make him laugh.

Tripp: Yeah, except when he wanted to play with my phone, and I had to take it away from him, and he screamed his head off.

Allie: Okay, but then you calmed him down in what, like ten seconds? And he was smiling again.

Tripp: Making him smile. That is my favorite pastime. Allie, what are you thinking about?

Allie: Just that you are the kindest, most caring person I’ve ever known. I’m really grateful to have you in my life.

Tripp: I am beyond grateful to have you in mine, and although I’m obviously not henry’s dad, I love him so much. I really look forward to, you know, throwing a ball with him, maybe coach his little league team one day.

Allie: You would make an amazing coach, not to mention a great dad, which you already kind of are, to henry I mean.

Tripp: I do hope that he thinks of me that way.

Allie: I know he does, and now I know you need to go, so henry and I will be waiting for you.

Tripp: I’m a lucky guy. See you later.

Allie: Bye.

Tr: Excuse me.

Allie: Oh, hi.

Tr: I need to talk to chanel dupree. It’s important.

Lani: You always make these big announcements, and I have no idea what you’re talking about.

Paulina: Well, this is my first winter up north in a long time, and I’m just sick to death of it. And I was watching the weather report this morning, and they said some groundhog saw his shadow, and we’re in for six more weeks of this garbage.

Lani: Yes, I know. I have two toddlers who get very cranky, if they don’t go to the park every day.

Paulina: So why stay here when I have this big, huge, and fabulous house sitting empty in miami? You don’t even have to pack little jules and carver’s things. I’ve already bought enough. Everything they–

Lani: What, you’ve already brought them clothes?

Paulina: Mm-hmm, what’s wrong with that? They’re my grandbabies.

Lani: Okay. I know what you’re doing.

Paulina: I’m not sure I know what you mean.

Lani: Don’t play dumb with me. You and I, we had a moment.

Paulina: I’ll never forget it. That chandelier started to fall on me, and you screamed out, “mom!” Oh, you saved my life.

Lani: And here you are trying to get us all to go to florida with you.

Paulina: What’s wrong with that?

Lani: What about eli?

Paulina: Well, he’s visiting valerie.

Lani: And my job?

Paulina: Oh, we can figure that all out.

Lani: Okay, no, no. It’s too soon. If you and I are gonna have a relationship, a real one, there has to be less style and a lot more substance.

Paulina: What does that mean?

Lani: It means that you need to be patient and present.

Paulina: You’re right.

Lani: Okay, so we agree.

Paulina: Yes. I want to do whatever it takes to be a good mother to you.

Lani: And I am open to giving you that chance, so I do appreciate your offer, but no, we’re not going to florida with you.

Paulina: Oh, yes, you are.

Allie: Chanel’s usually here by now actually. I don’t know what’s keeping her, but I work here with her, and I’m her best friend. Is there anything I can help you with?

Tr: This isn’t about the bakery.

Chanel: I just got back from seeing your pig of a brother.

Allie: Hey, and this man is here to see you.

Chanel: Me, why?

Tr: My name is tr coates. So you’re chanel dupree.

Chanel: That’s right, and how can I help you, mr. Coates?

Tr: Well, you can start by calling me tr.

Chanel: And why would I do that? I don’t even know you.

Tr: I’m here to talk to you about your role in “possessed.”

Chanel: Why?

Tr: Because I’m the guy who’s producing it. I made the deal with johnny dimera.

Ben: Hey.

Jake: Yo.

Ben: Good to see you, man.

Jake: You too, man.

Ben: What’s going on?

Jake: Your know, your cross is hanging upside-down.

Ben: Oh, what the hell? It keeps doing that. It must be, like, top heavy or something. Anyway, come on in.

Jake: Didn’t know you and ciara were religious.

Ben: It was a housewarming gift from her grandma.

Jake: Guess you can’t be too careful. The devil was after your baby.

Ben: Yeah, thank god that’s all over now.

Jake: Yeah. How’s ciara doing?

Ben: She’s good, she’s good. The morning sickness is all over, and she says she feels great. Baby’s doing well, so…

Jake: That’s good. You two deserve some happiness.

Ben: Thanks, man.

Jake: Yeah.

Ben: How are things with you?

Jake: Eh, could be better. This pushy little creep is after gabi.

Johnny: You were married, like, a million times. How much alimony were you paying? I guess we’re alike when it comes to beautiful women. We just can’t say no. Right, nonno?

Gabi: I know I’m not supposed to be eavesdropping, but were you two talking about me? Life’s been hard enough.

Gabi: So this was your workout, chatting it up with your dead grandfather?

Johnny: Did you know him well?

Gabi: We crossed paths a few times.

Johnny: That’s all?

Gabi: He didn’t give off a warm and fuzzy vibe, at least not around me, but I did admire the way he sold himself as a businessman. I mean, when I knew he had the heart of a mob boss.

Johnny: Well, I’m sure that if he were still around, he would return the admiration.

Gabi: I doubt it.

Johnny: I assume you’re here to talk about my dimera shares.

Gabi: I have news. Maggie is representing victor in all of this, and jake and I have a deal with her.

Johnny: What are the terms?

Gabi: We vote victor onto the board of dimera, and then he makes me ceo of titan.

Johnny: Well, I see what you get. I see what victor gets. What I don’t see is, well, what’s in it for me?

Jake: Nice new digs. It’s an improvement from that place over the garage.

Ben: We got a baby coming.

Jake: Yeah.

Ben: Can’t have the kid breathing in fumes all day long, right? Not to mention this is a bigger space, so we got the room now for a nursery.

Jake: That’s good. Well, you need help painting or fixing the place up, say the word.

Ben: I was already counting on that.

Jake: All right.

Ben: So what’s going on? Are you gonna tell me who this creep is you think that’s going after gabi?

Jake: Johnny dimera.

Ben: Him?

Jake: Yeah, you know him?

Ben: Yeah. I just met him yesterday. He was the one who dropped the cross off from julie. You think he’s going after gabi?

Jake: I know he is. Dude already dumped his wife.

Chanel: Yeah, I don’t think johnny still wants me in his movie.

Allie: Yeah, and why would chanel want to be in a movie made by some soulless cretin?

Tr: Come on. Do you even know johnny?

Allie: Yeah. Only since the womb. He’s my twin brother.

Tr: Ah, so you must be allie horton.

Allie: That’s right.

Tr: You’re playing your mother when she was your age.

Allie: Not anymore.

Tr: Well, it’s good you’re here; saves me from making the same pitch twice.

Chanel: And what pitch is that?

Tr: That you’re both under contract to my production company. If you don’t fulfill your contractual obligations, I will sue you and win.

Allie: Okay, go for it, ’cause there’s no way in hell–

Chanel: That either of us is gonna do that damn movie.

Tripp: Mr. Brady.

Roman: Tripp, how you doing?

Tripp: I’m fine, I’m fine. I was wondering if you had heard from allie’s folks.

Roman: Not a word, but wouldn’t expect to.

Tripp: They’re together, right?

Roman: Yeah, yeah. After what sami went through, I think they’re lying low. Is there a problem?

Tripp: No, no, not a problem. You know, just kind of like to do things by the book.

Roman: Okay, good for you.

Tripp: Yeah, and I’m also a little scared of allie’s mom.

Roman: Well, sami does have that effect on a lot of people.

Tripp: Yes, and she doesn’t like to be left out of things.

Roman: Uh-huh. You mind telling me what things you’re talking about?

Tripp: Well, I, uh… I love allie, sir, and I’m gonna ask her to marry me. Like pulsing, electric shocks,

Roman: Oh, okay. This is–I’m surprised.

Tripp: Not me. No. I think I fell in love with her the first time I ever saw her at that club in london. You know, she was a little too wasted to really see me, but I brought her home, put her to bed, and left her my phone number. And I hoped that we can start something good that next day, but then she never called, and we both know why.

Roman: Right.

Tripp: You know, but we came through all of that, and, you know, getting to the bottom of it, I never stopped loving her. And I love henry, too, you know. I come home from work, and, like, he just breaks out in this big grin, and I mean there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for them, mr. Brady. I want to take care of allie and henry for the rest of my life.

Roman: Okay, all right. Well, you know what, tripp? You’ve told me a lot about how you feel, but how does allie feel?

Tripp: She says she loves me. She acts like she does.

Roman: Be sure about that before you start talking marriage. I just don’t want to see you two make a big mistake.

Tr: I understand johnny broke your heart.

Chanel: Was that what he told you?

Tr: No. I heard that from your mother.

Chanel: And how do you know her?

Tr: Paulina and i go way back. I knew your mama when you were just a twinkle in her big, brown eyes. I’m very sorry about your father.

Chanel: You knew him, too?

Tr: No, sadly, I never had the pleasure.

Chanel: I miss him.

Tr: I’m sure you do, but i did meet your cousin though.

Chanel: What cousin?

Tr: Lani grant.

Chanel: Oh, no. You got the wrong information. Lani’s not my cousin. She’s my sister.

Lani: Excuse me? Are you telling me what to do?

Paulina: No. It’s not about me. It’s about big mama.

Lani: What, is she okay?

Paulina: I know she didn’t want me to tell you, but she hasn’t been feeling well.

Lani: Is it serious?

Paulina: No. I think she’s just lonely, but she would love to see you and the babies, but I don’t want her coming up here where it’s so cold. So I told her I’d do whatever it takes to get you and the kids down there, just for a couple of weeks, and perfect timing, eli’s–since he’s away.

Lani: No, I can’T. Look, I cannot leave town right now. I made a promise to someone that I would be here for her.

Paulina: And who’s that?

Lani: Chanel. Her heart is broken, and she needs someone to talk to until she can put her life back together. And that someone is going to be me.

Ben: Johnny dimera had a wife?

Jake: Well, he did, for about two days, and then he kicked her to the curb, started sniffing around gabi.

Ben: How did that happen?

Jake: All right, so after I got booted out of dimera, I took a job with titan with gabi. She and I both got fired from titan, and we got sick of sitting on the sidelines.

Ben: What does that have to do with johnny?

Jake: I’m getting there. So gabi still thinks that she has some pull with victor, ’cause he wants to hang onto her company, right? Victor also wants a seat on the dimera board, so we’re hoping that we have enough votes to put him there.

Ben: You want to put victor kiriakis on the board of dimera enterprises? Isn’t that like putting the fox on the board of the henhouse?

Jake: Well, gabi seems to think that it would benefit both of us, right, because here. The plan is for gabi to be in charge of titan, and I’m back in charge of dimera.

Ben: But you don’t have enough votes to get victor on the board.

Jake: Unless we get johnny to vote our way, right, so johnny’s got his shares. He’s also got ej’s shares now.

Ben: Mm-hmm, and I heard ej’s doing a little bit at statesville.

Jake: Right, so johnny has what gabi needs, and he’s made it very clear what he wants in return.

Ben: So what’s gabi gonna do?

Jake: Well, she’s convinced that she can use that to make him do what we want.

Ben: How about you? Convinced?

Gabi: Uh-uh. Not in front of him.

Johnny: Well, there’s no pictures upstairs.

Gabi: I thought you were smart enough to play the long game.

Johnny: I’ll play any game you want.

Gabi: Come on, just stop it. I don’t like to be pressured into doing things I don’t want to do.

Johnny: Is that really the case though? ‘Cause it kind of feels like you’re keeping you from doing things that you do want to do.

Gabi: I told you, jake and I, we are exclusive.

Johnny: Why? ‘Cause I was raised by my grandfather and my father to take over dimera enterprises. Jake was raised to be a grease monkey. He’s dead weight, you know it.

Gabi: And what does that make me?

Johnny: Well, what you lack in pedigree you make up for with brains, drive. What do you and I need jake for? For rob, it took years to find out

Jake: Gabi’s over at the dimera house talking with johnny right now.

Ben: Alone?

Jake: Yeah, he keeps calling her over there to talk business.

Ben: Without you?

Jake: I don’t like this plan of hers.

Ben: I wouldn’t like it either, brother.

Jake: You know, gabi and I, we worked so hard, together, to get everything we have, but this plan of hers? I don’t trust johnny dimera as far as I can throw a grand piano.

Ben: Hey, screw johnny. All that matters is that you can trust gabi, right?

Gabi: Jake’s not a poor relation. He has his own shares.

Johnny: Then leverage your many assets. Get him to turn ’em over to you.

Gabi: If you think this whole divide and conquer thing is gonna work–

Johnny: This whole scheme was jake’s idea, wasn’t it? See, he can’t stop obsessing about being booted out of a family he was never good enough to be a part of. He doesn’t care about titan. He probably doesn’t care about you.

Gabi: Don’t you dare say that.

Johnny: Come on. The guy has a singular goal of trying to worm his way back into dimera, so he can take a bite out of the apple. He’s using you to do that, and once he’s done, he’s not gonna need you anymore.

Gabi: You’re just too spoiled to understand what jake and I have, okay? We’re not entitled like you are. We know what it feels like to come from nothing, and we have a future. And he would never–

Johnny: I’m not the only one who wants to screw you. You better start watching your back.

Tripp: Sir, I would never push allie into marrying me.

Roman: I’m not saying that. No. You know how you said about seeing allie in the bar and how drunk she was? Well, allie, and johnny, and sydney, they were on their own way too soon because sami was devoting herself to ej. Now, johnny thought he wanted to get married, too, and you saw what he ended up doing to poor chanel.

Tripp: I’m not like johnny.

Roman: I know that. I’m just saying it’s never a good idea to rush into anything.

Tr: Lani? She’s your sister?

Chanel: My half-sister.

Tr: You had the same father?

Chanel: The same mother.

Tr: Paulina is lani’s mother. Huh, I had no idea.

Chanel: Yeah, I just found out myself.

Paulina: For the record, I had chanel years after we split with my husband george.

Tr: Is she your one and only?

Paulina: Yes, she is.

Allie: Excuse me, but what does this have to do with whether or not we do the movie?

Lani: I promised chanel that she could come over every night while eli is away. She’s gonna help me with jules and carver. Then we’ll watch tv, drink some wine, and just talk.

Paulina: It means so much to me that you want to be a real sister to chanel.

Lani: So you understand why I cannot go to miami with you.

Paulina: Well, you know, chanel, she’s doing a lot better. Right now, she’s fixing to give the devil his due. Young johnny dimera, oh, he is going to pay for all the pain and suffering that he caused her, and she knows I have her back.

Lani: I just can’t leave her here all alone.

Paulina: Then why leave her here?

Lani: What?

Paulina: I’ll go and talk to her. Get allie to run that bakery for a while. We’ll take her with us. You, me, and big mama, we’ll all see to chanel. Come on, what do you say?

Lani: I guess I can ask for the time off.

Paulina: So you’re going?

Lani: If I get the time.

Paulina: Oh! Oh, you don’t know how much this will mean to big mama.

Lani: I might be crazy. The last time I let you drag me down there, I almost got shot.

Paulina: Well, you’ll be safer there than you are here.

Lani: What does that mean?

Paulina: Well, you know big mama. She’ll get even if she doesn’t get what she wants. Look, you go, and you get yourself packed, and get the twins packed and everything, and then I’ll go tell chanel the plan. And then we’ll all be headed off to the airport. By the time we get back, ray coates will be gone, and lani never has to know anything about him.

Allie: Excuse me? Mr. Coates, I asked you a question.

Tr: I just misunderstood what your mother told me. That’s all. I have another appointment.

Allie: I just want to make sure you understand. You can sue us or whatever, but there’s no way that we’re doing that movie.

Tr: I’m sure we’ll be able to work something out.

Allie: Did that seem as weird to you as it seemed to me?

Chanel: Yeah. He was ready to sue us–

Allie: And then he just dropped it like a hot rock.

Chanel: Thanks for backing me up.

Allie: Dupree, you know I always will.

Tripp: Mr. Brady, I’m not your grandson.

Roman: Meaning I can’t tell you what to do?

Tripp: Meaning I would never treat allie the way johnny would treat chanel.

Roman: I know that. It’s just that, you know, allie already has a baby she didn’t ask for.

Tripp: That is working out, okay, she’s a fantastic mom.

Roman: Yes she is, but if she is not ready for marriage, you need to respect that.

Tripp: I will. Sir, I give you my word. I will never hurt allie in any way. And she’s learned to trust me, and she’s given me her heart, and I’ve trusted her with mine. I mean, isn’t that what love’s all about?

Jake: Yeah, yeah. Of course I trust gabi. I mean what we have goes way beyond this deal, but what I will say is sometimes gabi has a tendency to underestimate people, you know?

Ben: Yeah. Ciara says johnny’s a player. Gabi is way out of his league, brother, right?

Jake: Yeah. Still, man, something about johnny bugs me. You know, back when I ran with the mob, right, I could look a guy in the eye, and I could see that his evil, most of the time, came from weakness, right? Came from having a rough childhood like you and I had, and you know, a series of other bad breaks along the way, right? So they had to toughen up because they were afraid of losing what they had worked so freaking hard to get.

Ben: Mm-hmm.

Jake: But then there were the other guys. The guys who were just flat-out mean, evil, right? They would play like they had nothing to lose. Those were the guys that scared me, and I think johnny’s one of those guys.

Ben: He is a dimera.

Jake: Dude, so am I.

Ben: As long as you and gabi stick together, you’re gonna come out on top, all right?

Gabi: I trust jake. I believe in him.

Johnny: Well, I think, any day now, jake is gonna give you a good reason to question your trust in him.

Gabi: You’re just talking. You don’t know–

Johnny: I know you, gabriella, and I think you and I are at the beginning of a very exciting partnership. And as a sign of good faith, I promise to vote my shares and my father’s shares in favor of giving victor kiriakis a seat on the board.

Gabi: That is great. That is great!

Johnny: Who are you calling?

Gabi: Your uncle jake, of course–can you give that back to me?

Johnny: Why would you want to call jake?

Gabi: I don’t think right now is a good time to have your uncle questioning my loyalty to him, do you?

Johnny: No.

Gabi: Great, thank you. This thing is dead. I charged it this morning.

Johnny: Maybe it can’t hold a charge. Guess you’ll have to catch up with jake later.

Gabi: Yes. I guess I’ll do that after i share the news with maggie. You’re not gonna regret this, johnny, I promise.

Johnny: Oh, I know I won’t, but you and uncle jake on the other hand, different story. I guess I better go change. Oh, sometimes I love my life. Avoiding triggers, but can’t keep migraine attacks away?

Roman: Well, tripp, look. I can’t speak for allie’s parents, but for what it’s worth, you two have my blessing.

Tripp: It’s worth a lot, sir.

Roman: All right, you’re a good man, tripp johnson. The apple did not fall too far from the tree.

Allie: I thought you had to be at work early.

Tripp: Hey, well, I just remembered that I needed to ask your granddad if he had heard anything from dad or kayla. What are you doing here?

Allie: I’m just grabbing an early lunch.

Tripp: Oh, okay, well, I’ll see you at home tonight?

Allie: Yeah, I’ll see you. Bye. What was that all about?

Roman: Well, he told you. He wanted to talk about steve and kayla, so usual?

Allie: Sure.

Roman: Okay.

Chanel: Hi, mama.

Paulina: Oh. Oh, I see that smile. Oh, well, what’s that about?

Chanel: Me serving johnny with divorce papers. Going after his money.

Paulina: Yeah, that’s good. That’s real good. I need to talk to you about something.

Chanel: Wait until you try these butterscotch oatmeal cookies that I came up with. They are to die for.

Paulina: Oh, yeah, well, I’ll take a dozen of ’em. Then you pack ’em up for me, and then go pack a suitcase.

Chanel: Wait, what?

Paulina: I’m serious. You, me, your sister, your little niece and nephew, we are all getting out of town today.

[Knocking on door]

Lani: You back already? Mr. Coates. What are you doing here?

Jake: Thanks for listening, bro.

Ben: Of course, man. Of course. I hate what chad and ej did to you, brother. It’s not fair, and I really do hope you’re gonna end up getting back exactly what’s yours.

Jake: Hope so, man. Hey, at least I’m not going it alone though, you know?

Ben: Yeah.

Jake: I get to do this with somebody I love and care about. Gabi and me? We make a good team.

Ben: Yeah, you do. Take care, man.

Ben: No, I am not going to tell you. I’m gonna show you.

Ciara: Okay. Ha. Where are we?

Ben: Home.

[Eerie off-key notes]

Julie: Who are you? And what are you doing in my house?

Craig: Nancy, we need to go someplace where I can talk privately.

Nancy: I have nothing to say to you–you know what, why don’t you just call your little floozy and ask her to pop open the champagne, because you have finally gotten rid of the old ball and chain?

Chloe: Dad, you said you’d tell her.

Craig: I tried to, but she dumped a bowl of clam chowder on my lap and stormed off before I could get it all out.

Nancy: Get all what out? My husband is cheating, my marriage is over–what else could there possibly be? Obviously you two know something I don’T. Now, which one of you is gonna tell me about it?

Kristen: I thought you might like some dessert. Would you like some peach pie?

Abigail: You can choke on your pie, kristen.

Kristen: [Laughs] Well, you don’t have to get snippy about it. I would let go if I were you.

Abigail: No. Not until you tell me what you did to my uncle steve and aunt kayla.

Kristen: What do you think I did to them? Earlier you were droning on about being a dimera. And how do dimeras eliminate problems?

Abigail: Oh my god. You killed them.

[Soft orchestration]

Ciara: Home? Baby, I know what our home looks like, and this is not our home.

Ben: Well, I should have said our new home. Because I’ve been looking at apartments for a while now, and this is the best one yet.

Ciara: You’ve been looking for an apartment without me?

Ben: Well, I wanted to surprise you. Looking at apartments can be stressful, and I think you’ve had enough of that going on already, so I narrowed it down to my top three favorites, and then I asked julie to come take a look at them, and we decided together that this is the best one.

Ciara: Yeah, but ben, I love our apartment.

Ben: But we got a baby coming.

Ciara: Really? Hmm, well, I must have just forgotten about that part then, huh?

Ben: You know what I mean. We’re gonna need more room. I mean, think about it. I mean, maybe we could squeeze in a crib at most, but what about everything else? What about all the other baby paraphernalia–the diapers and the toy boxes and… the diapers.

Ciara: The diapers.

Ben: The diapers.

Ciara: Okay, listen, our baby isn’t gonna need all that fancy stuff–just the essentials.

Ben: Ciara.

Ciara: Mm-hmm.

Ben: You’re a brady and a horton.

Ciara: You’re right.

Ben: I am right. And we are not buying all that stuff. Your family is buying all that stuff.

Ciara: Oh my god, we’re not gonna need a bigger apartment, ben, we’re gonna need a warehouse.

Ben: Mm-hmm. So then maybe I can show you around a bit. Because in the words of our real estate agent, the second bedroom over here is crying out to be a nursery.

Johnny: You don’t recognize me?

Julie: Stay back!

Johnny: Julie, it’s me. Johnny dimera.

Julie: Oh. So it is.

Johnny: So…what’s with the broomstick?

Julie: You broke into my house.

Johnny: I’ve scared you. I’m so sorry. I didn’t–

Julie: I’m sure being raised a dimera, you were told that you do not have to obey the common decency laws of behavior, but you were misled. You do not just walk into somebody’s house.

Johnny: You’re right. It’s a-it’s a real problem of mine. You know, when-when I get obsessed about these ideas, I start turning them around in my head, and all of a sudden I just forget what I’m doing. I really am really sorry.

Julie: Really? When these obsessions are going around and around in your head, do you go into any random building? Do you have a reason for walking into this house?

Johnny: [Chuckles] Actually, I did have a reason. I was, uh, I was wanting to talk to doug.

Julie: Talk to doug about what?

Johnny: Well, I wanted to talk to someone else who knows what it’s like to have the devil inside him.

Craig: Nancy, we need to talk privately. Can we please just go back to our room?

Nancy: It’s my room, buster!

Chloe: Mom, please just calm down.

Nancy: I do not need to calm down! And I do not need to go back to our room and talk privately. Looks like you know what’s going on, and he knows what’s going on. And you know what, I dumped clam chowder in your father’s lap at the pub, so if salem is still salem, in about 20 minutes, the entire town is going to know… that you broke our marriage vows. So, what is there to talk privately about? Wait, did you shag my best friend? Ooh, maybe it was the tramp at the reunion. You know, you need to stop, craig, with that “we need to talk in private” and just be straight with me!

Craig: I will, but not with an audience. I’m going back to the room.

Chloe: Mom, please, he’s trying to do the right thing. Just go be with him.

Nancy: What in the name of god did I do to deserve this?

Kristen: No, I didn’t kill them. I simply…neutralized them. See, they didn’t give me a choice. They were sticking their noses into my business.

Abigail: You know, there are people who think the right to privacy doesn’t extend to kidnapping.

Kristen: And they were humiliating themselves in the process, and, pfft, the two of them were galivanting around rome dressed as a priest and a nun, and they were thought they were play acting, but ironically they really are now living a celibate and cloistered life.

Abigail: Meaning?

Kristen: I mean, I always thought they were skittish. Maybe they found some peace.

Abigail: Are they here on this island?

Kristen: Oh my god, dear, dear abigail, you really need to curb your journalistic impulses. I mean, honey, you don’t wanna meet the same fate they did.

Kayla: What the hell have you done now, kristen?

Nancy: Just… just yesterday, craig, we were in that bed together, and I thought I was the happiest woman in the world. No, I was the happiest woman in the world. Because I didn’t know who you were or what you had done. I was just a happy, ignorant fool.

Craig: I’m sorry, nancy. I’m so sorry that I hurt you. You’re the most wonderful woman in the world. I would–

Nancy: Just stop it, craig. Just stop. I do not want to hear how wonderful I am, and I especially don’t want to hear about how much pain you’re going through or how much this hurts you, and how hard it is on you.

Craig: You’re right. You’re right. Of course.

[Small laugh] I’ve been such a coward.

Nancy: Oh my god. I think I wanted–I think I know why you wanted me to come back here and be alone with me. Oh, craig, you want to tell me that it was all a big mistake, right? That you really don’t love her. That you want my forgiveness. And that you’re never gonna see her again, right? Isn’t that what you want to tell me, craig?

Julie: What are you saying to me?

Johnny: Well, it turns out that the movie I was planning to make is back on, and since now doug has gone through the same thing my grandma marlena went through–

Julie: You know, johnny, it was really nice of you to visit with us when you got back from italy and lovely when you dropped by at christmas. And doug is so appreciative of the flowers and the cards you sent when he was in the hospital.

Johnny: I, uh–

Julie: Right, you never did any of those things. You’ve never bothered with us at all. And now you want to talk to my husband, who’s been through hell… to find out what hell is like. I suppose to make money off of his suffering, off your grandmother’s suffering.

Johnny: Well, I talked to her and she’s fine with it.

Julie: Well, god bless marlena, and good luck to her. I’m not fine with it. You’re really turning out to be sami’s little boy, aren’t you? Combining your father’s arrogance with your mother’s towering insensitivity!

Johnny: Oh my god, I… I offended you. I didn’t mean to. I mean, you’re right about me. I am all those things you said. I’m sorry, really sorry. I…I do everything wrong. I am like them.

Julie: You’re just young and stupid. I was in the same place myself, as I dimly recall.

Johnny: Look, can I… can I just step back outside, knock on the door again, and start over, and this time not act like a jerk?

Julie: Another-another time, johnny. I’m really on my way out now. I’m busy. I am going to take a housewarming gift to ben and ciara.

Johnny: Really? They’re, uh, they’re moving?

Julie: Yeah. Well, they have a new baby on the way. Of course, with everything that has been happening, I want them to be sure they have this, and to put it right outside their new home.

Johnny: I’m sorry, do you smell smoke?

Julie: No. No, nothing’s on.

[Rapid beeping]

Johnny: Sounds like it’s coming from the kitchen.

Julie: My god, you’re right! My god!

[Beeping continues]

Johnny: [Sighs]

[Beeping stops] Oh. This must have set her back 4, 5 bucks.

Ben: So, we could make the room that’s next to the nursery into a home office, if you decided that you wanted to work from home.

Ciara: Okay, but aren’t we jumping the gun a little bit here? I mean, why pay rent for a more expensive place before we even need it?

Ben: Because you are in your second trimester, and this baby is gonna be here before we know it. So, at least if we move in now, give us a little time, fix some things up, and we won’t be under so much pressure.

Ciara: I guess.

Ben: Hmm. But we do need to act fast, because we’re not the only ones interested in this place.

Ciara: Oh, okay.

Ben: Look at this place.

Ciara: What did you just tell me about “no pressure”?

Ben: Good point.

Ciara: Yeah.

Ben: I love this place. I do. But we are not moving in here unless you love it too. So what do you say?

Abigail: What fate did they meet? You still haven’t told me.

Kristen: I told you everything you need to know. I did not kill them.

Abigail: So you said. But where are they? What did you do to them? Because I found steve’s eye patch and their driver’s licenses stashed over there in that drawer, so they’ve got to be somewhere here on the island.

Kayla: You killed him? You killed him? You–you bitch!

Kristen: Let go of me, you lunatic!

[Gunshot]

[Clattering]

[Both shouting] Damn it, kayla! The nuns are gonna be here any second. Oh god, what the hell am I gonna do with you?

Kayla: Steve. Did kristen really kill you? Where are you?

[Thumping]

Steve: [Coughs] Oh…oh, my god.

Kayla: Oh my god. (Man 1 vo) I’m living with cll

Kayla: Oh, thank god, she said she killed you.

Kristen: You do know that your evidence doesn’t prove that they’re here. So, if you’re not gonna take my word for it, then go look for yourself, hmm?

Abigail: You’re kidding, right?

Kristen: Oh, abigail, you’re not a prisoner here.

Abigail: That’s exactly what I am.

Kristen: Well, guess what, the warden just granted you a yard pass, hmm? Would you like a magnifying glass or a deerstalker cap? Or maybe a snakebite kit, hmm?

Ben: So, what do you think of this place?

Ciara: Well… I do like the layout. And it would be kind of fun fixing this place up.

Ben: Ah!

Ciara: Yeah. When–when would we sign the lease?

Ben: I already did.

Ben: Mm-hmm.

Ben: Baby, it’s the first of the month–I had to move quick. Other people wanted this place. I didn’t want to lose it. What? Look, I made the landlady agree that she would tear up that damn lease if my wife didn’t absolutely love it. But since you do, legally, we could spend the night here.

[Both giggling] If we really wanted to. So, what do you think, mrs. Weston?

Ciara: Oh god. I say yes.

Ben: [Whispers] She said yes.

Julie: There was a fire on top of my stove!

Johnny: Whew! Well, thank god for the smoke alarm.

Julie: Yeah, well, thank god for my trusty fire extinguisher. But it doesn’t make any sense. I mean, I never turned that stove on.

Johnny: Ooh, that means it’s malfunctioning. Now, I don’t mean to be an alarmist, but you want someone to look at that right away. I mean, imagine if it happened again in the middle of the night, say.

Julie: Suppose you’re right. But I really think I need to get that cross over to ben and ciara.

Johnny: Why don’t you let me take it over to them? I’d like to do something to get back in your good graces.

Julie: You wouldn’t mind?

Johnny: Nah, wouldn’t mind at all. All I need is their new address.

Craig: I can’t ask you to forgive me.

Nancy: Why not? Craig, we’re not the first couple going through this. I mean, we can get by it. Sure, I’m still mad as hell at you, but… but, hon, if you still love me and I love you, we can get past all of it. All you have to do is promise me that this will never happen again, and–

Chloe: I know, but I just don’t know how my mom’s gonna take it, you know? Craig is her whole life.

Brady: No, you are underestimating your mom. She’s tough. She is a formidable woman.

Chloe: I know. I mean, I know that she’ll survive, but will she be the same?

Nancy: [Sobs] So, after all these years, I’m just a cover story? I mean, you’re sleeping with me, but you’re dreaming of men?

Craig: No, nancy, I love you.

Nancy: No! No. Just as a friend, right? But you never bothered to tell me how you were feeling!

Craig: That’s because I never knew how I was really feeling!

Nancy: Are you telling me that this is the first person–man–that you’ve ever slept with?

Craig: No. No. When I was younger, I knew I was attracted to men, back when I was in college. We weren’t married then.

Nancy: But you were sleeping with men.

Craig: Yeah. Yeah, I was. I was, and then… I realized that that’s not what I wanted. That’s not the life I wanted to live. So I put those feelings aside, nancy, and I-and I married you.

Nancy: Ha ha ha ha! Woo-hoo! Lucky me! But craig, I have feelings too.

Craig: Nancy, nancy, I did love you. I wanted to build a life with you. I never cheated on you.

Nancy: Until now. Okay, craig, you didn’t just say you slept with this man, you said you loved him. And you know, you say that you love me. Are you bisexual? Come on, craig, after all these years, you owe it to me to tell me the truth!

Ben: In the hopes that that would be your answer, I planned ahead. So, mrs. Weston, there are some of your favorites– marshmallow-infused hot cocoa right over there. But that’s for later. Because for right now, I think, maybe, we should just christen this place a little bit. If you know what I mean.

Ciara: I think I do know what you mean. I saw that you made the bed up. You planned ahead.

Ben: You did see that?

Ciara: My baby’s little planner.

Ben: Oh my god. I just wanted tonight to be perfect… and it’s gonna be.

[Ciara laughs]

[Knock on door] Oh, what?

Ciara: Who on earth could that be? It’s a brand-new apartment. How do they know we’re here?

Ben: You know, it’s probably julie, but I’m gonna tell her there was an emergency. Can I help you? Rob did his best to manage his constipation

Steve: Can’t believe you’re here.

Kayla: I was so scared. What happened?

Steve: [Mutters] Kristen. She showed up at our hotel room in rome. She had a gun. She said you were fine, but I didn’t know what she’d done to you.

Kayla: I don’t even know what happened. I don’t even know where we are. She drugged me, I guess. I just woke up a few minutes ago.

Steve: So did I. Last thing I remember, I was trying to get the gun away from kristen, and she must have knocked me out and drugged me somehow. I-I-I woke up, I was in that trunk.

Kayla: What is this place?

Steve: Let’s see. There are supplies. There’s bottled water, flashlights, emergency kit. Some kind of an alarm on that wall over there. Here we go.

Kayla: Look at this. There’s lanterns and there’s-there’s hurricane safety pamphlets.

Steve: This must be some kind of storm shelter. I bet we’re on an island.

Kayla: I’ll bet you it’s not bali ha’I.

Abigail: You’re trying to scare me.

Kristen: No, abigail, I’m just giving you fair warning. It is a jungle out there. I love saying that, because it’s literally true. But you saw for yourself when you left before.

Abigail: Cameras?

Kristen: Well, yeah. I mean, I don’t want the servants to pinch the silver. Oh, wait, there are no servants. There’s no one out there to help you. See, we are on an island in the middle of an ocean. I mean, you can go out there and play robinson crusoe, make a raft, paddle away. But you’re not the first to try. See, most die in the jungle before they ever see the water. And the ones that do get that far, well, I mean, they just are dashed up on the rocks. You see, abigail, this really isn’t a beach of your dreams.

Craig: I can’t expect you to understand.

Nancy: I understand perfectly. You married me, craig, knowing you were attracted to men. I married you because I loved you. It never occurred to me to ask, “is there anything that you’re keeping from me, hon? Like you’re gay?”

Craig: I didn’t tell you because I managed to control those feelings, nancy. You and I had a good marriage. We had beautiful children.

Nancy: We have a good marriage and beautiful children based on lies. Come on, craig, why now? I mean, why him? Whoever he is?

Craig: It’s different now. I’m in love. And now that I know the way I feel about this man, and that it’s him… I’m sorry, nancy, there’s just…there’s just no turning back.

Ciara: Johnny! Hi!

Johnny: She had some fires to put out, but she wanted you guys to have this right away. Didn’t want you spending another night here without it to protect you. She wants you to hang it outside.

Ciara: Wow. That’s-that’s beautiful. But why… why does she think that we need protection?

Johnny: I presumed it was because the devil’s after your baby.

Johnny: Ah, that’s right. You’re devoted to her. She was the person who helped you after you, uh… well, ben, you’re not the only person who’s not thrilled with the idea of this movie. But the truth is, my grandma’s fine with it.

Ciara: Thank you for bringing this over.

Johnny: Yeah, uh… julie sent a hammer and nails with me, so I think she wants this thing up asap outside.

Ben: That’s a great idea, actually. Thank you for bringing this by, johnny. Appreciate that. Nice, uh, nice seeing you.

Johnny: Right. Well, it was great seeing you.

Ciara: So good seeing you.

Johnny: And I think that this baby is going to have one protective father.

Ciara: Yeah.

[Ben hammering]

Abigail: I wouldn’t be so smug if I were you. Your house of cards is crumbling.

Kristen: Well, I’m not smug. I’m self-assured.

Abigail: Let me ask you this. Did you happen to send chad a text saying “don’t worry about me, I’m fine”? Thought so. So, turns out, on the very same day that you decided I needed a little sea air here, I told chad everything that you had done to kate, and mentioned you’d done the exact same thing to sarah. So, how long do you think it’ll be before he figures out that I didn’t just voluntarily leave him and my children?

Kristen: Oh, he’ll figure it out eventually.

Abigail: He will. He won’t stop until he finds me.

Kristen: Oh, well, this is finally property. He’s welcome at any time. So, abigail, darling, why don’t you just sit, relax, rest, and let me get you a drink.

Abigail: No.

Kristen: Okay, fine. Fine. So, nighty-night, and don’t let the bedbugs or tarantulas bite.

Abigail: You’ve overplayed your hand, kristen. This is all unraveling.

Steve: You know, kristen thought that xander had hired me to look for sarah horton. But when I told her it was about philip, she tried to cover, but she looked relieved. And xander was convinced that sarah didn’t leave salem on her own volition.

Kayla: Kristen?

Steve: Maybe. I’d like to know just how many salemites are on this island.

Chloe: Brady.

Brady: Yeah.

Chloe: I’m really mad at him. I mean, he’s my father. I love him, and I know that he’s in so much pain, but I’m really, really mad at him.

Brady: It’s okay. It’s okay. I’d be worried if you weren’T.

Chloe: He must have told her by now. Oh god, help her get through this.

Nancy: How long have you known this guy?

Craig: A few months.

Nancy: And after a few months, you know you’re in love with him? Craig, how can that be?

Craig: Because he’S… he’s changed everything for me, nancy. He’s helped me face things that I’ve-I’ve spent my entire life trying not to face. And for the first time in my life, I know who I am, nancy. And I can’t go back to living the way I was. I just can’T. And that’s why… you’re the most–

Nancy: Just stop! Just stop it right there. I do not want to hear another word out of your mouth. Because now it’s my turn. Avoiding triggers, but can’t keep migraine attacks away?

Chloe: Thank you, for being here.

Brady: Yeah, well, that’s what friends are for, right? No matter what, we are friends.

Nancy: You are not gonna be the one to say it’s over, craig. It’s gonna be me. Because I cannot be with a man who could just throw our lives away after all of this because he just realized something he should have been honest about years ago. Craig, you should have told me, before I was your wife.

Craig: Nancy, I’m sorry. I’m sorry.

Nancy: I don’t care how sorry you are! You know what, I can’t really stand to look at you anymore. I want you to leave, because our marriage is over. It’s dead. And craig, you are dead to me too. Now, get out of here–I can’t look at you one more second.

Craig: Nancy.

Nancy: Get out of this– my room. Get out of my room, now. Go, craig! I–just–

[Sobbing]

Abigail: I’m not gonna just sit around here and do nothing. I’m gonna find uncle steve and aunt kayla. And when I do, we are all getting the hell out of here.

Kayla: So, you think sarah’s here too?

Steve: I don’t know for sure. But I have a feeling we’re not alone on this island. We need to get out of this place and find out who else is here.

Kayla: I’m ready if you are.

Ben: Whoa, wait a second.

Ciara: What? What’s wrong?

Ben: Nothing. Just…this.

[Eerie off-key notes]

Demon johnny: “Oh, just this.” [Scoffs] And they talk about the banality of evil.

Ciara: Oh, I am gonna have to call grandma julie first thing in the morning and thank her.

Ben: It was so nice of her.

Ciara: Yeah. And so like her. To want to bless our baby, bless us, bless our home, and keep us all safe.

[Intense, eerie music]

Abigail: Come on, kristen, I know that sarah’s here. That’s what you meant when you said that this place is still serving its purpose. You stash all of your kidnapping victims here.

Kristen: Has anyone ever told you that you’re quite annoying? You’re like a mosquito with a press pass.

Abigail: Just tell me where sarah is. People back home are worried sick about her, especially xander.

Gwen: Where are you going?

Xander: [Sighs] Gwen rizczech.

Gwen: What are you doing?

Xander: Gwen, I know I don’t deserve a woman like you, someone so strong, and loyal, and so beautiful. But would you take pity on this poor, pathetic, completely naked scoundrel and grant me the honor of becoming my wife?

Roman: Don’t remind me. As far as I’m concerned, you and sami are both a lot better off out of that nest of dimera vipers. And now sami and lucas are together and so are we. And I hope ej’s new cellmate has been lonely for a long time.

Kate: Okay, well, I’m gonna get going. I’m going to go see to see how chad’s doing.

Roman: What’s gotten into her?

Abigail: Don’t you think it’s a little rude after everything that ava’s done for you to just not answer her call? Or maybe it’s not ava.

Abigail: Maybe it was the dimera pilot calling, asking for more money because he knows xander and i are onto him. Maybe he was calling to tell you just how much of victor’s money maggie is willing to pay to find out where he flew you and sarah.

Kristen: All right, you know what, abigail? You realize I do have a gun.

Nancy: But brady and chloe are joining us for dessert a little later. We want her to have, like, a normal family life, like the first day of the rest of her life, and–I know that sounds dumb.

Nancy: Oh, thank you, roman. Wait, honey. Do you still have that fabulous clam chowder?

Nancy: You know, craig, under that rough exterior, roman really is a sweet guy. I mean, in a weird sort of way, he kind of reminds me of you.

Craig: Really?

Nancy: Okay, honey, he’s not as handsome as you, but, you know, he’s sweet, but he’s tough, and he’s strong, and he shoots from the hip. But he’s still a sweet man. He loves his kids. He loves his family. And well, he’s a real man. You know what I mean? Like you. Life’s been hard enough.

Kate: So the dimera pilot said someone called sarah horton paid him to fly her and an enormous suitcase out of salem. And then last month, kristen somehow finds out that abigail and xander are searching for sarah, and she conjures up a sarah, fake sarah, so they’ll call off the hunt.

Chad: That was abigail’s theory.

Kate: I think it’s true because it sounds just like kristen. I mean, and there are parallels. I mean, it happened to me. She kidnapped me, she put on a kate mask, she breaks up with jake. And then if what abigail says is true, she kidnapped sarah, and she put on a sarah mask, and then she broke up with xander and then ends up at the airport with a body-sized suitcase.

Chad: God, I’m so stupid. I sat in this room, and I listened to abigail tell me what happened to you. And I just went and read the kids a story. I’m an idiot.

Kate: Stop, stop. Don’t beat yourself up.

Chad: Don’t beat myself up? Abigail told me she didn’t think the person that her, maggie, and xander talked to was sarah, that fake sarah went to the airport. I’m just like, “hey, don’t worry about it, let’s have dinner.” Like abigail’s gonna sit at home and do nothing when she thinks kristen kidnapped sarah. No, of course, she’s gonna go to the airport. Why didn’t I go with her?

Kate: Because the whole thing just sounds preposterous. That’s why. I mean, it happened to me, chad, and I still don’t believe it. All right? I’m sorry.

Chad: If kristen hurts abigail–

Kate: Don’t go there. Don’t even go there.

Chad: Where is she? And where the hell is sarah?

Sarah: I can’t read anymore. I’ve read so much, my eyes are gonna bleed. How many hours have I stared out that damn window at the damn ocean? I got to get home. I have to get back to the man I love.

Gwen: Yes. Of course, it’s about sarah. You’ve just spent the last bloody month trying to track her down, xander.

Xander: ‘Cause I was trying to make sure she was okay. And now I know she’s okay, and we can have our lives back.

Gwen: ‘Cause she dumped you again.

Xander: Hey, it doesn’t matter that she dumped me, just like it wouldn’t matter if she wanted me back. I love you, gwen. I want to be with you.

Gwen: Come on. How in god’s name do you actually expect me to believe that?

Xander: Because it’s the truth.

Kristen: Sweet, sweet abigail, hm? See, I don’t need to worry about how chad or brady are gonna feel about this because they’re not gonna know about this, huh? Now I want you to take some time, and I want you to reflect and ultimately absorb the fact that you don’t have any power. I am in absolute control. And you’re just gonna have to make peace with that. Try to eat something. Maybe it’s low blood sugar that’s making you so disagreeable.

[Soft music]

Brady: You overheard him on the phone?

Chloe: Yeah. About five minutes after my mom was going on about what an honest, loyal husband my father is.

Brady: Oh, god. Chlo, I’m so sorry. You shouldn’t have had to hear that.

Chloe: I just don’t know what this is gonna do to my mom.

Brady: Well, he’s not the first husband who has cheated on his wife. But I mean, this girlfriend, do you know who she is, or–

Chloe: It’s not a her, him.

Brady: Him?

Chloe: Yeah. My dad’s been cheating on my mom with a man.

Brady: Are you trying to tell me that your father is gay?

Nancy: Craig, I keep seeing people that I think I used to know.

Chloe: Brady, he’s in so much pain. But he says he loves my mom, but then he also says–

Chloe: He says that he’s in love with this other guy. I don’t know. I mean, I get this sense that maybe he’s been in denial this entire time, but it just feels like it’s really new to him.

Brady: Yeah.

Chloe: But at the same time, I don’t really give a damn about his pain because of what this will do to my mom.

Brady: Yeah. It’s okay, I get it.

Chloe: It’s just–I told him he’s got to tell her the truth. She deserves to know the truth. Brady, I think it’s gonna be bad.

Nancy: I knew it! I knew it all the time.

Craig: Nancy, there’s something else I need to tell you.

Nancy: No, no, no, no. Just spare me the details. I don’t want to find out that it just happened, or that she completes you, or other load of crap.

Roman: Hey, hey, hey, hey. Can we keep our voices down?

Nancy: You mean me? You want me to keep my voice down because I’m the one being loud while he just sits there like the sleazy little wimp that he is!

Craig: Nancy, let’s go.

Nancy: I’m not going anywhere with you, you son of a bitch!

Craig: Oh!

Abigail: She probably poisoned the apple. That’s what witches do. What the hell did she give me? How the hell do I get out of here?

Kate: I don’t know. I don’t think that phone call proves that it wasn’t kristen in the mask. I mean, we know that she has the technology to be me, to be nicole, she can be joan of arc for all we know. I mean, certainly she could fake a phone call.

Chad: She said that gwen had entered as if on cue. Like the whole thing was staged.

Kate: Like an elaborate, nefarious scheme. Like you’re still here, my love. And gwen, gwen’s involved, too?

Chad: I remember something that abby had said to me. She said that gwen was there when she told her parents that she was looking for sarah, that gwen had freaked out. At the time, she thought that gwen was just trying to keep xander from going back to sarah. But… what if she knew that kristen had sarah and… no, that’s too much of a stretch.

Kate: No, I don’t think so. We both know that kristen is capable of coercing someone into helping her. Gwen, I mean, gwen would be open to temptation. She’d be open to blackmail.

Chad: Yeah, but I just don’t see any connection between gwen and kristen.

Kate: What? They’re exactly alike. I mean, they’re both amoral, vicious, vindictive.

Chad: Gwen’s–

Kate: Gwen’s what? Gwen’s changed? Do you realize how many times we’ve said that about kristen? I think abigail is close to the truth. Dangerously close to the truth.

Lani: I know you have your issues with johnny after what he did to chanel, but are you sure it’s not more than that?

Paulina: What else would there be?

Lani: I mean when tr asked who I was, you told him I was your niece. Why wouldn’t you want him to know I was your daughter?

Johnny: I don’t blame tr for wanting me to make the movie. It’s a great script, and I signed a contract.

Chad: Sure, but that was before the devil came back to salem.

Johnny: But he wasn’t here for that, and plus, he does really seem genuinely excited about the movie. He even said he sees it as a trilogy.

Chad: Whoa, wait. He wants to make three movies about marlena? What are the sequels gonna be about?

Johnny: Well, part two would be about my grandmother’s most recent possession.

Chad: And the third?

Johnny: We’ll figure something out.

Chad: Look, I don’T… I don’t think this is a great idea, but I am happy for you and your career.

Johnny: Thank you. That’s nice of you to say.

Chad: It sounds like you’re not gonna have a whole lot of time for dimera going forward. If you want, I could talk to our lawyers and see about them transferring yours and your father’s shares to me.

Johnny: That won’t be necessary. I still plan to be involved with dimera enterprises.

Chad: You sure? Making a movie is a– it’s a lot of work, you know? And I know you want to give it your full attention.

Johnny: I can do both.

Chad: This is your big break, johnny. I don’t want you to leave anything on the field.

Johnny: I promise you I can handle being a business mogul and a movie mogul at the same time.

Chad: Very ambitious of you.

Johnny: Well, trust me. I’m up for the challenge. I’m ready to make my mark on the world.

Belle: How are you holding up?

Paulina: How do you think he’s gonna feel with chanel making half the movie profits? Things, they get sour. Tr, he blames me and chanel, then he comes after us.

Lani: For what exactly?

Paulina: [Stammering] It doesn’t matter. This man–men like that– they they destroy everything they touch. Trust me. It’s just better that he doesn’t know that I have another daughter.

Lani: I don’t know. It feels like a stretch.

Paulina: I’m being cautious. I’ll admit it.

Lani: Are you being cautious, or are you just not telling me the whole story?

Gwen: You don’t have to apologize.

Xander: Yes, I do. I was incredibly unfair. You had to give up spending the holidays in london, just so I could run around playing detective.

Gwen: You thought sarah was in danger. I know that she was very important to you and you were worried about her.

Xander: Yeah, but she wasn’t in danger. She just really, truly wanted to get away from me, and I guess I… still didn’t want to accept that.

Gwen: I know how hard it is to realize when someone you really care about doesn’t feel the same way.

Xander: I didn’t realize how much she hated me until I saw her again. You should have been there.

Xander: Well, maggie cares about you deeply. You lied to her about where you were.

Sarah: I wanted to be left alone and I was afraid that she would tell you where I was. I was trying to avoid this.

Xander: Oh, so you hate me now.

Sarah: Yes. You put another woman’s baby in my arms and told me that it was mine. You let me fall in love with her, and then you watched as she was taken away from me. How could I not hate you?

Xander: I mean you would not believe how angry she was.

Kristen: Are you sure? After your flight, I would assume you’d be dehydrated.

Abigail: Flight?

Kristen: Mm-hmm. And this will flush out all the sedatives that you were given.

Abigail: I’m getting the hell out of here.

Kristen: Did you not hear the part about being on a deserted island? Where the hell are you gonna go, abigail?

Abigail: Give it a shot, anyway.

Kristen: Oh, all right. Well, if I can’t make you stay, maybe this will, hmm?

Johnny: So aunt abigail’s still game to play my grandma, right? I know she’s busy with the newspaper.

Chad: I don’t know. You’ll have to ask her when she gets back to town.

Johnny: I have a feeling she’ll say yes. I know how excited she was about playing the part, and who can blame her? I mean, what’s more fun than acting like you have the devil in you?

Chad: I don’t know if I’d call it fun, but I’m sure abby’s up for the challenge.

Johnny: Of course, now that my dad’s gonna be going away, I’ll need to find a new leading man. You still interested in playing john black?

Chad: Me?

Johnny: Well, you pitched the idea before. Ddi you change your mind?

Chad: Yeah, I just have a lot more on my plate now, so– but I’ll think about it.

Belle: Before you go out there, I’m sure the news of your sentencing has already hit the press.

Belle: There is going to be a swarm of reporters out there, so I’m gonna go coordinate with the courthouse and see if we can sneak you out the back way to the prison van.

Johnny: Oh, come on, don’t tell me you’re actually feeling sorry for my father.

Johnny: He kidnapped my mother, held her prisoner for months. Whatever happens, he did to himself.

Chad: Right.

Johnny: Look, I know I’m supposed to feel sympathetic, because we share the same dna, but honestly, what I feel is relief. Justice was served. Now we can all move on.

Kristen: All you need to know, ms. Abigail, the reason you’re here is because you were sticking your nose where it didn’t belong.

Abigail: You mean I was getting too close to the truth about what actually happened to sarah.

Abigail: Sarah didn’t just decide to leave salem on her own last year. You did something to her, didn’t you?

Xander: Look, I know this isn’t the ideal time to bring up her name again, but I do have one last thing I want to say about sarah.

Xander: Before she left, she gave me some really good advice. She told me to stop obsessing about our breakup, get on with my life, focus on you.

Xander: Yes, she did, so that’s what I’m gonna do from now on. No more looking back. I only want to look to the future, and my future is with you.

Gwen: You really mean that?

Xander: I know exactly how to prove it. For rob, it took years to find out

Nancy: This is wonderful.

Brady: Well, the pub always has the best food.

Nancy: It’s true. That’s not what I meant. Yesterday. Yesterday, brady, I would have been absolutely convinced that, well, craig was lying to me about that being a work call. But today, today I’m perfectly calm because I know that my–my husband, my loving, wonderful husband, has gone out of his way to show me how much he loves me. And even though I came to salem for being terribly upset, then needing my daughter to talk me off the ledge, I’m really happy to be here, to be here with both of you.

Brady: It was wonderful to spend time with you and craig.

Nancy: Even though we sort of surprised you and disrupted your entire lives.

Brady: No, you didn’T. No disruption at all.

Nancy: You know, as happy as I am, there’s only one thing that would make me happier.

Nancy: Brady, ever since the two of you were singing duets in the park way back when, I’ve known that you are the only man for my daughter.

Brady: Well, she didn’t know that, obviously.

Nancy: And it’s not obvious to me. And in my opinion, the only reason that she went back to philip this time was because you were entangled with kristen dimera.

Brady: Nancy, she and philip were together when he disappeared. And we don’t know if he’s–he’s alive or dead, so there is no way that I can pursue something with chloe right now.

Nancy: But you do have feelings for her?

Brady: Yes, I do.

Nancy: So brady, then you’re–you’re basically in limbo.

Brady: That’s a good way of putting it.

Nancy: But what–but what if we never find out what happened to philip? Are you okay wallowing in limbo forever?

Brady: That might be the way it has to be, nancy, yeah.

Nancy: No, no, it’s not. Not the way I see it.

Craig: I don’t know what you’re talking about, chloe.

Chloe: Come on, dad. I just heard you. “Baby, I miss you”? I hope you don’t talk that way to your co-workers, or someone’s going to slap you with a sexual harassment suit.

Craig: Okay. It’s not what you think–

Chloe: It’s exactly what I think. And mom’s “ridiculous meltdown” when she first came to salem makes total sense. You lied to her, and you lied to me. You are cheating on her, aren’t you?

Craig: Yeah. Yeah, I am.

[Melancholy music]

Rafe: Like I said, I’ve got no proof that ava’s behind this. It’s just my gut. And what happened with duke?

Shawn: The teddy bear that got the–

Rafe: Yeah. That’s right. First, that happens. And then right after that, these guys come forward, and here I am.

Shawn: Yeah. Well, it wouldn’t be difficult for ava to orchestrate a frame-up, you know, given her mob ties.

Rafe: Well, exactly. Yeah. I’m right there with you. Well, she was just so damn proud of leaving her old life behind.

Shawn: And what about the dead mobster you found on your kitchen floor not that long ago? I mean, that shows that her life isn’t that far behind her, but I still don’t get motive. Or you mentioned that ava’s got an issue with yours and nicole’s friendship, but you also mentioned that you and ava have been solid for months.

Rafe: Yeah. That’s not exactly true.

Ava: Nicole, please, come–come on in.

Nicole: Thanks. So you were thinking about me, huh? Why?

Ava: Well, the eggplant parm. You know, I should’ve sent you home with some last night, but I was just too upset to even think straight after rafe was arrested.

Nicole: Well, it is safe to say that neither one of us had an appetite after that.

Ava: My stomach’s just– it’s full of knots. Anyway, I’m–I’m surprised to see you back here so soon. What’s up?

Nicole: Don’t you think you’re being a little paranoid here thinking that ava is setting you up? I came to check on you. How are you doing?

Ava: You know, you really are the sweetest. You–you–you are–you are–you are the best friend. Well, you know, I mean, I couldn’t really sleep a wink last night, right? I just–I kept thinking about what’s going to happen if rafe is convicted and he ends up in prison. It was enough to keep me up all night.

Nicole: Well, I have complete faith that that’s not going to happen because rafe is innocent. And you know that better than anyone, don’t you?

Lani: Please. When you say things like that–

Abe: Like what?

Lani: That paulina let you think that you were my “real father.” You are my “real father” in every way that matters.

Abe: I should’ve chosen my words more carefully. What I meant was that you have a biological father out there. And ever since you found out, I’ve barely heard you mention him. Look, lani, I understand, and believe me, I appreciate that you think that I would be threatened by you seeking out information on him, but you are connected biologically. And I would think that you would be somewhat curious about him.

Tr: I have business here in salem.

Paulina: What kind of business would that be? Waste management?

Tr: Actually, I’m a movie producer now.

Paulina: Movie producer? I can only imagine what kind of movies you make.

Tr: It’s all totally legit.

Paulina: You don’t even know the meaning of that word.

Tr: But apparently, I have a talent knowing what the public likes. And one of the filmmakers I’m working with just happens to live right here in town. He’s a young man from a fine, upstanding family. Perhaps you’ve heard of him. Johnny dimera?

Paulina: Johnny– johnny dimera? That’s the son of a bitch that broke my daughter’s heart.

Tr: You have a daughter? Life’s been hard enough.

Tr: I had no idea you had children, paulina.

Paulina: Well, my family is–is none of your damn business. My daughter has nothing to do with you.

Tr: I didn’t say she did.

Paulina: For the record, I had–I had chanel years after we split, with my husband george.

Tr: Is she your one and only?

Paulina: Yes, she is.

Tr: Well, she is a very lucky young woman to have a woman such as yourself for her mama. And george is a very lucky man.

Shawn: So you and nicole slept together. But ava doesn’t know about this, right?

Rafe: Well, I don’t think so. And ava, she’s–she’s been so sweet and loving and extra thoughtful, really, and not just to me. To nicole too. She’s always inviting her over to dinner and to just hang out. But I have seen this act before.

Shawn: I don’t follow.

Rafe: A few months back, gabi and ava were at each other’s throats, and I mean bad, right? And then all of a sudden, out of nowhere, ava is super sweet. I tell you, it turns out that that was one hell of an act, because while she was smiling to gabi’s face, she was stabbing her in the back. She was trying to screw her out of gabi chic.

Shawn: Okay, so you– so you think that maybe ava does know about you and nicole.

Rafe: And that destroying my career is her revenge.

Ava: What is that supposed to mean? That I would “know better than anyone” that rafe is innocent?

Nicole: Well, because you’re the closest person to him. You know what a great guy he is, how honest he is, how seriously he takes his work.

Ava: Yeah. Rafe is nothing if not honest.

Nicole: So then you know he’s being set up.

Ava: I very much want to believe that.

Nicole: Why wouldn’t you?

Ava: Well, for one thing, the police would not arrest one of their own–the commissioner, nonetheless– without a mountain of evidence.

Nicole: But it’s fake, ava. And I’m sure that’s something else you know.

Ava: What I know is that when I needed rafe to believe in my innocence, he didn’T. So why would i automatically believe in his?

Nancy: Brady, I’ve seen the way chloe looks at you. She loves you too. Now all I have to do is convince her to admit that to herself.

Brady: Nancy, it’s sweet of you to want to try to help, but I-I think chloe and i should handle this on our own.

Nancy: Brady black, do you want to be with my daughter or not?

Chloe: You stood in my office and you swore to mom that she’s the only woman for you.

Craig: She is, chloe.

Chloe: How can you possibly say that when you just admitted to having an affair? Who is she? Do I–do I know her? Does mom know her?

Craig: There is no other woman.

Chloe: Damn it, dad, just tell me the truth.

Craig: I am.

Chloe: You’re not making any sense. You just admitted to cheating on mom, but you deny there’s another woman–

Craig: Because it’s a man, chloe. I’m cheating on your mom with a man.

Brady: Look, nancy, it’s not that simple.

Nancy: Of course it is. You love chloe; she loves you. Now, you just have to man up and put it out there.

Brady: You know, sometimes “manning up” means taking a little step back.

Nancy: You know, that kind of thinking is going to get us absolutely nowhere. Now, are you going to let me help you make this happen or not?

Brady: Well, it’s going to be a little hard considering you and craig have to leave today.

Nancy: Nope.

Brady: Nope?

Nancy: Nope. I’m going to stay right here until I make sure that you and chloe are on the road to happily ever after, just like craig and me.

Chloe: A man? You’re–you’re sleeping with a man? But you–you and mom have been married for so long. I just–I don’t–I don’t understand.

Craig: I don’t either, chloe. Oh honey, come here. I’m sorry. I-I didn’t want you to find out this way.

Chloe: Well, anyway. You don’t want me to find out any way, obviously. I mean, my–my god, dad. I knew that you and mom had problems, but all couples do from time to time, right? I guess I always just thought that maybe mom was just a little bit crazier about you than you were about her. And I just sort of assumed it’s because she’s a more demonstrative person than you are, but… dad, are you–are you trying to tell me that you’re gay?

Lani: I know everything that I need to know about paulina’s ex. Apparently, he was abusive, controlling, cruel. So yeah, I did wonder about who my father was when I was growing up. But now that I know the truth, I have zero interest in meeting him.

Abe: Well, you might have other relatives out there you’d like to know.

Lani: Zero interest in meeting them, if they even exist. Look, I’m convinced that biology is overrated. You are the father that I have always dreamed of when I was a little girl. So why would I want to have anyone else as a dad when I have you?

[Warm music]

Paulina: Don’t you try to sweet talk me. That might have worked when I was an innocent young girl–

Tr: Paulina, you were never an innocent girl. But I didn’t mean to be inappropriate. I know you’re taken.

Paulina: A woman is never “taken,” ray. You know what? That is not a concept I expect you to understand.

Tr: Again, I didn’t mean to offend. Is he with you? Your husband?

Paulina: My george is dead, god rest his soul.

Tr: Oh, I didn’t realize. My condolences, paulina.

Paulina: I’d rather be in a grave right beside him than anywhere near you.

Tr: Look, I don’t blame you for feeling that way. The way I treated you, it–it was unforgivable. And I’m truly sorry.

Paulina: You’re what?

Tr: You heard me. But I don’t expect you to forgive me. And I know this might just sound like words to you, but I’m not that man anymore.

Paulina: So you’re trying to tell me you’ve changed? You got the lord, and you got sober?

Tr: Both.

Paulina: Well, it’s going to take more than a miracle for that. A man like you doesn’t change, ray coates. And never will.

Brady: Look, nancy. I appreciate your enthusiasm. I really do, but I mean, you have to get back to new york, right?

Nancy: For what? Parker’s in boarding school, joy’s in grad school–

Brady: What about craig’s job?

Nancy: Well, he’s been in so many medical conventions. He’s got about a bazillion days of vacation. So, oh, it would be so fun to be able to stay here and visit with my girl. I mean, we could–we could do things like we used to. Get our nails done. Go shopping. It would be so much fun. Oh, please, brady. Come on. I can’t wait to see her face when I tell her.

Brady: Me neither.

Nancy: Oh. Though it’s taken an awful long time for her to get craig his jacket. I wonder what could be keeping them.

Craig: Chloe, I–I love your mother very much, very much. I had two beautiful children with her.

Chloe: I–I’m aware of that. You didn’t respond to my question.

Craig: If I’m attracted to men. Well, yes, it seems that I am. If that makes me gay, then I’m gay.

Chloe: Okay. Well, have you had these feelings forever, and just never acted on them, or what?

Craig: I don’t know. I just–I met this guy. We had great chemistry together. Both of us.

Chloe: Okay. I don’t want to hear.

Craig: Chloe, you have to believe me. I never–I never meant to hurt your mom.

Chloe: Well–well… well, then, you need to call this guy back, whoever he is, and tell him that you’re not rushing back to see him. You have to end this, dad.

Craig: I can’T.

Chloe: Why not?

Craig: Because I’m in love with him.

Rafe: Truth is, I fell into this relationship with ava, and then I convinced myself that it was real. But the whole damn time, I’ve been thinking about nicole.

Shawn: All right. So why didn’t you break it off with ava a long time ago?

Rafe: You know, nicole, she–she didn’t want a rebound relationship after what happened with eric. And then she started dating ej. I was living with ava, you know. I was living with her. She was–she was making me home-cooked meals, and she was being so sweet, and I didn’t want to hurt her. Then I–I just kept telling myself what we had was real.

Shawn: I understand. So now that nicole and ej are over…

Rafe: I realized that I want to be with nicole, that I’ve always wanted to be with nicole, and… I told nicole that I was going to tell ava, that I was going to break things off with her, but I didn’t get the chance because that’s when you showed up and arrested me.

Shawn: Well, I’m sorry for my characteristically lousy timing.

Rafe: It’s not your fault.

Shawn: So what are you going to do now?

Nicole: What do you mean innocence? What did you do?

Ava: Well, I was innocent. Which means I didn’t do anything, boy, but did rafe think that I was guilty as hell.

Nicole: What are you talking about?

Ava: Your precious plushie. Rafe was convicted that I went into your office and chopped its head off. Can you believe that? I mean, what possible reason would I have to go and do something like that to my best friend? Or the man that I love. Who wouldn’t hurt me any more than I would hurt them.

[Eerie music]

Shawn: Right. Well, give me orders. I mean, you’re still my boss. What’d you need?

Rafe: [Laughs] Yeah, right. Not for long. No, I can’t imagine abe’s gonna leave me in this position, at least until I clear my name.

Shawn: And I’m going to do my best to make sure that that happens. So do you want me to–you want me to dive deep into–into ava’s priors and, you know, figure out the link between these clowns that are accusing you and her?

Rafe: Oh, I still do think that’s the best way to get to the bottom of this. But be careful.

Shawn: Yeah. Always.

Rafe: Shawn, I’m serious. I’m damn serious. I mean, if ava is using her connections–her mob connections, to make this all happen, there’s no telling what she’ll do.

Nicole: Of course I would never hurt you, and neither would rafe.

Ava: No? I did wonder there for a while.

Nicole: Wonder what?

Ava: About the two of you. And sharing custody of that silly little bear. And I will admit, I–I was a little jealous at first. And the old me might’ve gone in there and chopped the poor guy’s head off. Hell, the old me would have aimed for some other body part if he’d have been anatomically correct. The old me. You know, the one who sabotaged steve’s plane and kidnapped kayla. Might have thought about framing rafe. Hell… I may have even thought about how good it would feel to bring him down. The old me might’ve thought once I can’t have him when he’s rotting in prison, then neither can you. You have to admit, it would’ve been perfect revenge.

Nicole: Yeah, it would have been.

Ava: But, of course, I am not the old me. I’m the new and improved ava vitali. Yes, I am perfectly sane. I am a law-abiding citizen who would never believe that her best friend and the man she loves would go behind her back and hook up.

Nicole: Of course not. Listen, I have to go. But please tell rafe I said hi. How’s he doing?

Ava: I have no idea. I mean, I–of course, I would love to see him, but I just think that it’s probably best if stay away right now because I wouldn’t want my… past connections to make anything worse for him. You know what I mean.

Nicole: I think I know exactly what you mean.

Abe: Mmm. Hey, can I help?

Lani: This? One of the perks of being a mom. I am glad I’m not on duty today. The idea of melinda trask on one of her self-serving crusades and had rafe arrested for charges that everyone know are bogus? If I saw the woman, I’m afraid of what I might say to her.

Abe: You know, I completely believe that rafe is innocent. But until he’s exonerated, I still have to find someone to run the department. I don’t suppose you’d be interested.

Lani: Thanks, but I’ve got my hands full.

Abe: Yes. Indeed you do. You know what? I–I’ve got to get down to the pd.

Lani: I’m sorry carver and jules stayed asleep through your visit. But now I just hope that they will stay asleep through me getting them into the stroller.

Abe: Well, good luck with that and I’ll make sure I come see them when they’re awake.

Lani: Come back anytime you want, dad.

Abe: You know, it means a lot you still call me that.

Lani: Well, that is what you are to me, dad, always.

Abe: Aww.

Tr: I understand your doubts, paulina. But I bet I can prove to you that I’ve changed.

Paulina: I seriously doubt that. And I–honestly, I don’t give a damn.

Tr: At least let me take you out to dinner. I mean, for old time’s sake. I mean, I know that I can’t begin to make things up to you. But at least let me help you see that we were happy in the beginning–

Paulina: I don’t want to have dinner with you, ray. I don’t want to have another conversation with you. Now just–just–just get the hell out of my way and get out of dodge.

Nancy: You know, I better take chloe her coat. She is probably freezing out there.

Brady: Do you want me to come with you?

Nancy: Oh no, hon. I am sure everything’s okay. I just bet you anything that they went to the cart in the square to get a hot chocolate. Craig cannot resist temptation.

Chloe: So you’re in love with some guy you just met?

Craig: It’s been a few months.

Chloe: And it’s love.

Craig: I’ve never felt this way before, chloe.

Chloe: But you–you said you–you love mom. Are you still in love with her?

Craig: I never meant to hurt her.

Chloe: Are you still in love with her? Oh, my god. Oh my god, dad. Wow. So you’re–you’re not willing to break off things with this man?

Craig: I won’T. I can’T.

Chloe: Okay, well then at least respect mom enough to tell her the truth.

Shawn: All right, I’m on it, rafe. I’ll report back to you as soon as I know anything.

Rafe: Hey, thanks, man. I owe you.

Shawn: Listen, we’re going to get you out of here.

Rafe: Yeah.

Nicole: Hi.

Rafe: Nicole.

Nicole: I don’t suppose I could talk to rafe.

Shawn: No. Perfect timing. I will leave the two of you alone.

Nicole: Thanks.

Abe: Oh, hey, shawn. How’s rafe doing?

Shawn: About as well as expected. I’m doing my best to try to, you know, keep him out of population. Hoping he’s out from under these charges soon.

Abe: You and me both. But until these charges go away, I need to find someone to step in as acting commissioner. Now, with eli out of town, would you be willing to take on the most thankless job in salem?

Shawn: Do I have a choice?

Abe: Well, you know, if you’re worried about rafe’s feelings, I think he would be grateful to know that the department’s in the hands of someone he trusts.

Shawn: You know, I’ll do it. But when you talk to rafe, I want you to tell him that I can’t wait for him to have his job back.

Nicole: You look pale.

Rafe: It’s only been one night. I’m fine.

Nicole: Well, if it’s any consolation, I don’t think you’ll be in here much longer. I went to see ava this morning–

Rafe: Well, you didn’t say anything to her, did you?

Nicole: No. No, of course not. I played it cool. And so did she. And she didn’t admit to anything, not in so many words, but she didn’t leave a doubt in my mind that she is guilty as hell.

Ava: You’re lucky I didn’t chop off your unmentionables, rafe. Maybe someone will take care of that for me when you’re in statesville.

Chloe: I mean it, dad. You have to tell mom that you’re in love with someone else.

Nancy: There you two are. Is everything okay?

Craig: Yeah. Everything is fine. Everything.

Chloe: Yeah. Mom, dad has something he needs to tell you.

Nancy: Oh.

Craig: Nancy, the phone call.

Nancy: No. No, no. I hope they didn’t call you to ask you to come home.

Craig: Why not?

Nancy: Because we’re staying in salem.

Paulina: Why are you still standing here?

Tr: Well, last time I checked, you didn’t own this town. Although someday you might, knowing you. But in the meantime, I still have business with johnny dimera, and I’m not going anywhere until it’s settled.

Paulina: Well–well, fine. Fine. But you–you–you stay out of my way. And if you go anywhere near my family, I swear– I swear I’ll–

[Foil whips] It’s all about seizing the offensive and of course, thrust.

[Voicemail beeps]

Johnny: Gabriella, it’s johnny. I was just about to do a little fencing. Why don’t you blow off my boring old uncle jake and stop by the mansion? I’ll even let you play with my foil, if you ask nice.

[Doorbell rings] Guess she was already on her way.

Paulina: Do I need to say it again? Johnny dimera ripped out my little girl’s heart, so if he wants a divorce so damn bad then I want that nasty little piece of work drained of every trust fund cent he has. Now, are you lawyer enough for this job? Do I need to find someone else?

[Doorbell rings] Call you back. Speak of the devil.

Marlena: Yeah, it did.

Johnny: That’s the good thing about playing with bad girls. They never make you wait. W-what the hell are you doing here? For rob, it took years to find out

Nancy: What’s wrong?

Craig: Nothing. You wore me out last night. I’m tired.

Nancy: Oh, I-I understand. It’s okay. It’s just that… I love having you close to me again and feeling that you– I love you, craig wesley.

Abe: Oh, you know, I-I was just on my way to your bakery. Get some almond croissants. I hear–I hear they’re out of this world.

Chanel: They are very popular.

Abe: I’m sure. Well, you take care, okay?

Chanel: Abe? I’m really glad I ran into you. I know you’re angry with me for ruining your wedding to my mom and I wanna apologize.

Marlena: I heard what happened at your wedding. And as a mother, I can’t imagine how much it hurt to have your daughter speak to you that way.

Paulina: The way my secret came out at my wedding was on that horned fool, but keeping the truth from abe and lying about it, that is on me. No doubt, oh, the devil– devil did me wrong, but I was the one who lost my mr. Right.

Johnny: Uh, mr. Coates, I’m-I’m-I’m sorry. Please, come in. It’s just that you are the last person I expected to see in salem.

Tr: Call me tr. Mr. Coates was my father. Nice place you have here.

Tr: And nonno would be?

Tr: These last months, I was on location down under. It was summer and it was hotter than hades. And I was off the grid and unreachable. Hmm. So you can imagine my surprise when I got back to civilization, and one of my assistants told me that you left a message that you were shelving the film.

Tr: No, I don’t want your explanation. I want my movie.

Johnny: And I understand that, but you see the thing is I kinda promised my grandmother that I wouldn’t tell the story about what happened with her and the devil.

Marlena: Paulina, I am so sorry that you lost abe. I-I saw the– I saw the love between you. The strength of it. Do you suppose that in time, the two of you could hope to find your way back together?

Paulina: I opened up to you once before about my love life and now I’m a very single lady.

Marlena: Again, I’m sorry. I will never forgive myself for the– the way that I betrayed your confidence.

Paulina: Well, it wasn’t you, was it? But I will say this, I know that man still loves me seven ways to sunday and I go to bed every night, I wake up every morning, hoping he’ll remember that, but he has made it crystal clear he’ll never trust me again.

Abe: Look, what happened with your mother and me, it’s not your fault. All you did was tell the truth, which is something paulina should’ve done a long time ago.

Chanel: Maybe, but it was her truth to tell, not mine.

Abe: You had no choice in the matter.

Chanel: Even if the devil made me do it, I saw how happy you and mama both were that day. And I see how unhappy you both are now. And well–

Chanel: I think all that bad karma came back around and bit me.

Allie: Yeah, I thought– I don’t know–I thought maybe you could pin it to your jacket since it’s an ancient symbol of medicine.

Tripp: Actually, it’s– it’s not.

Brady: I’m really glad that your parents are back on track. I know you’ve been stressed about phillip’s disappearance, so this is one less thing you have to worry about, right?

Chloe: Yeah, it is. And since you’ve been so supportive, I wanted to know if you wanted to join my parents and me for breakfast? They-they’re leaving town but they wanna meet at the pub.

Brady: Yeah, sure. No, I’d love to come.

Chloe: Okay, cool. And can you do me a little favor? Can you not mention my mom’s meltdown when she first got back to salem? You know, the awful misunderstanding with my dad?

Brady: Yes, chloe, I have no intention of bringing that up.

Chloe: Okay, thank you. I think it’s better if we just all pretend like it never happened, you know, just be happy for them.

Nancy: Craig…

Craig: Hmm?

Nancy: I’m so sorry that I doubted you.

Craig: Nancy, no apologizing.

Chanel: I don’t understand it, abe. It–it wasn’t like it was just some fling. We talked about our future, what we wanted. We–we both wanted the same things. We had real plans. Right before the reception, johnny told me how much he loved me, and then he just totally humiliated me. Like everything we shared was a lie.

Abe: Well, you know, I can’t imagine how that felt how that must feels now.

Chloe: Like hell. That’s how it feels. And that’s why mama thinks we should bleed johnny for every penny that he has.

Marlena: Paulina, I can’t tell you how grateful I am to at least try to make amends.

Tr: Now that’s disappointing. And I hate being disappointed. So I suggest you rectify the situation.

Johnny: There’s not much I can do. Things got a little crazy when the devil came back and possessed my grandma again.

Tr: Again? That’s even more reason to do the film. You’ve got a built-in sequel. Hell, it practically writes itself. And if we put our heads together, I’m sure that we can come up with “possessed part three” without too much trouble.

Johnny: I do have some thoughts.

Tr: So what are you doing about it? Sitting around in your pajamas all day will not gonna make you rich and famous. You gotta get up off your ass and think big, son.

Johnny: Oh, don’t worry. I have plenty of ideas.

Tr: It takes more than ideas. It takes some guts and energy, which is what I thought you had the day you knocked on my door to pitch your project.

Tr: I told you when we met that you needed to be motivated, to stay motivated, that the film business was cutthroat.

Johnny: And I told you that cutting throats wouldn’t be a problem for me.

Tripp: Is chanel gonna be okay?

Allie: Yeah, I texted her earlier. She said she’s got it.

Tripp: I mean–I actually meant, you know, what happened with johnny.

Allie: Oh, yeah. God, tripp, he–he really screwed her up. So sweet of you to ask.

Tripp: Pree’s your best friend, right? And you love her. So that means she’s important to me, too.

[Delicate music]

Chanel: At–at first, I–I didn’t want johnny to pay, but then allie told me she saw him kissing some girl. I mean, already? God, it’s just–it’s all so horrible and complicated.

Chanel: Oh, god. I’m sorry. I hate falling apart like this.

Abe: Don’t be sorry. You know, the way johnny treated you, nobody should be treated that way, but remember, you’re not alone in this. You have your mom. You have your friends, and your family. Marlena: I don’t understand this. You know, when–when johnny came home from italy, he–he told us how–how much he loved chanel, how happy he was to be married to her. Oh, I’m so sorry.

Paulina: Not as sorry as that fickle young man’s gonna be once I get through with him because–now don’t get offended, ’cause I know he’s your grandson, but I’m gonna make that boy pay for what he did to my daughter.

Brady: I hope it’s okay that I join you for breakfast here.

Nancy: Of course. I was telling chloe that I hoped you would be here too.

Nancy: You two were privy yesterday to my meltdown. And I–I wanted to say that I’m ashamed if I was–if I was any way accusatory of my–my good and honest husband. And, I also wanna say to my daughter, which is very close to what you said to me, brady, when I got to salem and was sort of out of control, like I said, and that is, sweetheart, don’t ever make accusations against the person that you love unless you have strong evidence that you’re–you’re not imagining that they betrayed you. I guess what I’m trying to say in all of this is, don’t ever be like your mom. Don’t let your insecurities take over and–and doubt the devotion of the person that loves you.

Chloe: Okay, thanks. Got it, mom.

Nancy: I know, sweetheart, that you’re not insecure like me. I mean, you’re beautiful, and you’re smart–

Abe: Oh, wait, wait, you just missed her. She–she wasn’t feeling well, and she headed home.

[Knock at door] Tripp, what are you doing here?

Tripp: I hope you don’t mind me dropping in like this, but there’s just something I’m wanted to tell you. My asthma felt anything but normal.

Chloe: Dad’s phone call is certainly taking a long time, right?

Brady: Mm-hmm.

Nancy: That’s the way it usually is. They call with one question, turns into a hundred.

Brady: Well, it’s a shame his eggs are getting cold.

Nancy: Not just his eggs. The man forgot his jacket. He’s gonna get a chill.

Chloe: You know what? I’ll bring him his jacket after I keep eating his eggs. I’ll be right back.

Brady: I know. The pub has the best food.

Nancy: That’s so true. That’s not what I meant. Yesterday, brady, I would have been absolutely positive that craig was lying to me about that being a work call, but today, I’m perfectly calm. Because my loving wonderful husband has gone out of his way to show me how much he loves me.

Craig: I know, I know, honey. I miss you too. I do–I do.

[Melancholy music]

Chanel: What did you wanna talk about?

Tripp: I didn’t just wanna say this over the phone. I wanted to talk to you about in person.

Tripp: Allie and I– we’re both here for you, okay? And what her brother did to you was the worst. And I just wanted you to know that you deserve a hell of a lot better than johnny dimera, okay?

[Soft music]

Johnny: What can I tell you, grandma? I got caught up in the romance of italy being with a beautiful woman. One minute, I was eating gelato with chanel, the next minute, I was proposing. And by the time we got back home, I realized that I had made a huge mistake.

Marlena: Well, it’s–it’s one thing to acknowledge a mistake, but johnny, you were cruel.

Johnny: Not my finest hour, I admit. And I’m sorry for that, for hurting chanel. But I’m even sorrier that I’m gonna hurt you, grandma.

Ned: How’d your meeting go? Oh. By the looks of things, not too well.

Xander: I’m sorry; did you want something?

Ned: Obviously. I want my money.

[Phone beeps]

Chad: Abby, what’s going on? Where are you? Johnny said–

[Doorbell rings] Belle.

Belle: Hey. I’m sorry to just show up without calling, but I wanted to pick up some toiletries for ej.

Chad: Oh, what, the shampoo in the lockup isn’t good enough for my brother?

Belle: I thought he would appreciate having some of his own things. Would you mind getting it for me?

Chad: Yeah, no, I’m not doing anything to help ej, not after what he did to my wife.

Belle: What did he do to abigail?

Abigail: I knew it! I knew it was… you? Ava vitali? What the hell?

Belle: Ej did what?

Chad: He forced himself on my wife.

Belle: Are you sure?

Chad: Uh, yes, I’m sure. I saw him with my own eyes.

Belle: Where did this happen?

Chad: At the courthouse during the recess that the judge gave because of that coughing fit or whatever the hell it was. You remember–I ran into you in the hallway? We were about to walk inside, and then I had realized that i forgot my phone in the witness room, so I went to go get it, and there’s ej, attacking my wife.

Belle: What did he say when you walked in?

Chad: Well, after abigail slapped him across the face, I asked him what the hell he thought he was doing, and he wasn’t even the least bit apologetic. Just sat there, staring at me, smug as ever.

Belle: Oh, my god. I–I just can’t believe he would do something so disgusting.

Chad: I was gonna kill him. Abby asked me not to.

Belle: You know what? It really doesn’t make sense, though, because, I mean, you were about to get back on the stand, and you made it pretty clear that we would be pleased with your testimony, so why would ej sabotage himself like that?

Chad: Because ej is an arrogant bastard who thinks he can do whatever he wants, not to mention an entitled pig that thinks he can help himself to whatever he wants. Do you know what he said to my wife? He said that he was gonna take her on the conference table. Take her.

Belle: Ugh.

Chad: I mean, who knows what would’ve happened if I hadn’t shown up when I did?

Belle: God, well, no wonder you were so mad when you came back from that recess.

Chad: Yeah, well, he’s gonna be spending the next decade in prison, so maybe he’ll learn to keep his hands to himself.

Belle: I am so, so sorry for what abigail had to go through. I mean, there is no excuse for ej’s behavior. But he is still my client, and so if you could just point me to the bathroom, I’ll grab the stuff and go.

Melinda: Ah, mr. Dimera. We meet again. You’re looking a little bit, um, defeated.

Shawn: Look, we’d love to stay and chat, da trask, but ej’s got somewhere he needs to be.

Melinda: Oh, the only place he should be is downstairs, awaiting sentencing.

Shawn: He’s meeting with his lawyer.

Melinda: I hope not to discuss an appeal.

Ej: That’s between me and my attorney.

Ned: Yeah, that’s where you’re headed, right? After the meeting I had with you and abigail dimera earlier today? You went to procure payment for our little exchange? You remember? Xander: Yeah, right. Hi, ted.

Xander: I’m not sure what you mean.

Ned: So let’s have it. She did give it to you, didn’t she?

Xander: Actually, I didn’t get a chance to ask.

Ned: Well, I sure hope you have some other means of funds, because I’m not gonna tell you squat unless I get paid.

Xander: I don’t need you to tell me where you took sarah. I already found her myself.

Abigail: You’re the person who’s been wearing this mask? I–I mean, I knew it wasn’t really sarah, but I just thought the person masquerading as her was kristen or gwen. I never would’ve guessed that it was you.

Abigail: This just doesn’t make sense. I mean, do you even know who sarah is? What reason do you have to be impersonating her? What are you doing, ava? Why are you doing this?

Belle: Thanks for the input.

Melinda: He was found guilty, all right? And considering all the damning testimony against him, I don’t see how you’ll convince a judge to come to any other conclusion.

Belle: Why don’t you let me worry about that?

Melinda: Ooh, you must really be kicking yourself, huh, for letting him take the stand like that?

Belle: [Scoffs] Excuse me?

Melinda: Any first-year law student knows that a defense attorney never lets their client testify unless it’s absolutely necessary. I mean, whoo, when you opened that door for me, I was thrilled… but I was also shocked, because someone with your experience to make a rookie mistake like that? You must be mortified.

Shawn: Oh, let me guess. Our esteemed da is doing a little preening.

Belle: Oh, no, she’s just showing me all her insecurities. She’s a little nervous that I’m meeting with ej.

Nicole: I know. No, but maybe–maybe I’m being paranoid too.

Rafe: Uh-huh, yeah? Okay, what about tonight, huh? What about that? She insists that we all have dinner? She’s not even here.

Rafe: Yeah. So I guess I got tired of waiting for the other shoe to drop and took action. Let the chips fall where they may.

Rafe: I don’t like being tested. And I don’t like playing games.

Shawn: Come on. There’s no way that you can believe that rafe is corrupt.

Melinda: My opinion is irrelevant. But when these allegations are made, I have no choice but to investigate.

Shawn: And you’re gonna come up empty-handed, ’cause rafe’s record is spotless. What, all a sudden, what, he’s a dirty cop now? Why would he do that?

Melinda: My guess: Pressure. Under his leadership, this department has become a complete laughingstock.

Shawn: Oh, all right, you know what? I would not go that far. We’ve hit a few speed bumps here and there, but that’s about it.

Melinda: I read about it every day, how crime is up because salem pd won’t do anything to put the bad guys away. I think rafe needed to turn the heat down by any means necessary.

Shawn: He would not manufacture convictions. There’s no way that he would do this, because he’s a good cop, and he’s a good man.

Rafe: You’re right. Ava might be innocent in all of this. She might not be setting me up to look like a crooked cop. But what I’ve come to realize is… it doesn’t matter.

Nicole: You don’t care if ava’s trying to ruin your career?

Rafe: No, of course I do. Yeah, it’s just, whether she is innocent or not, it doesn’t change the way I feel about you. I can’t get you out of my head or my heart. I’m just thinking I need to– I need to end things with ava.

Nicole: Are you sure that’s something you really wanna do?

Rafe: Yes. Yes, because whether she is innocent or not, it doesn’t really matter. It’s not working. I mean… we can’t go on like this.

Nicole: Rafe, I don’T… I–I don’t think this is the best time to make a big decision like this. I think maybe you should wait until things settle down and the investigation is over.

Rafe: Okay, just hear me out. Either ava knows what’s going on, and she is trying to punish us, in which case, obviously, I can’t stay with her…

Xander: I found her. I just came from uncle vic’S. Sarah turned up there. She went to see maggie… and made it very clear that she’s done with me for good.

Chad: Yeah, can’t say that i blame her.

Xander: Oh, well, this will make you happy. Abigail was investigating sarah’s disappearance for the “spectator,” and I was assisting, but now that sarah’s been found, my partnership with your wife is over. Wait, didn’t she tell you all this?

Chad: Yes, of course she did, but I thought she might’ve come here to see gwen.

Xander: Why?

Chad: Because she thinks that she doesn’t have the whole story yet. Look, she’s convinced that the woman you found with maggie isn’t the real sarah.

Ava: Gwen, how did you…

Gwen: I heard abigail attacking you over the phone. I figured you might need backup.

Ava: Thanks. Timing was perfect.

Gwen: Yeah, I can see that. So I suppose the jig is up.

Ava: Yeah, your little sis ripped that mask right off my face.

Gwen: Ah, damn it! I thought we’d thrown her off of sarah’s scent for good. What happened?

Ava: Oh, she goes talking about how something kept bothering her, how she knew that I wasn’t really sarah.

Belle: It is. I just talked to chad. He told me what you did to abigail.

Xander: So let me get this straight. Abigail thought it wasn’t really sarah that I saw at uncle vic’s? It was someone in a sarah mask.

Chad: Yes. At first, abigail thought it was kristen because she had done the exact same thing to kate.

Xander: Right, right, that makes sense. Wait, what does this have to do with gwen?

Chad: Well, it wasn’t kristen, so abigail thought it was gwen.

Xander: I–I don’t get it. Why exactly?

Chad: Who has a motive to pose as sarah, right? Hey, think about it, xander. You’re in a relationship with gwen. Now, what happens to that relationship if you find out what really happened to the woman who was your fiancée, the woman who you love very much? So sarah–sorry, fake sarah– shows up, tells you she wants nothing to do with you, and that effectively ends you searching for her.

Xander: So abigail thinks that the woman I saw, the woman who broke my heart for a second time, was actually gwen?

Gwen: Put her down? You C… come on. You can’t be serious.

Ava: It would solve our problems.

Gwen: And it would create loads more for me– no, I’ve already been suspected of two murders in less than a year. I’m not gonna add another one to the list. Plus, she’s my sister!

Ava: Half-sister.

Gwen: That is not the point. Look, yes, I hate that she’s trying to get payback because i slept with her husband, and i hate that she’s trying to break up xander and I, but I don’t want her dead.

Ava: Okay, but you know we need to think of something, because she was about to call the cops when you knocked her out.

Gwen: Okay, how about, when she points the finger at us, we’ll just say she’s having another one of her delusions?

Ava: No, no, rafe’s never gonna believe that.

Gwen: Well, we’re not gonna know unless we try.

Ava: No. Okay? He thinks I’ve gone legit, and we need to keep it that way. I’ve set all these plans in motion against him, and I’m seeing them through. He needs to pay for cheating on me, sleeping with that slut nicole.

Gwen: Okay, what do you suggest that we do, then?

Ava: No… we could leave her here. No, maybe she won’t remember anything when she wakes up. I mean, you did hit her pretty hard.

Gwen: She’s already seen you in the sarah mask. I’d say that that’s quite difficult to forget, wouldn’t you?

Ava: [Sighs] Okay, then let’s figure out a plan later. Right now, we need to get her out of here.

Rafe: Okay. All right, so just to be clear, it’s not that we’re not together because we don’t wanna be, it’s because I’m with someone else.

Ej: [Laughs] That’s insane.

Belle: He said he saw it with his own eyes.

Ej: When? Where?

Belle: At the courthouse, after he had that coughing fit. He said he walked into the witness room and saw you forcing yourself on his wife.

Ej: That’s impossible.

Belle: Well, something happened during the recess that made him furious with you.

Ej: It certainly wasn’t that I hit on abigail.

Belle: Then why the 180? Why would chad suddenly decide not to give testimony that would help us after he just implied that he would?

Ej: Maybe he was never intending to help us. He could’ve been toying with us the whole time.

Belle: No way. That’s not chad.

Ej: I’m telling you, I never left that courtroom.

Belle: You sure about that?

Ej: Absolutely. During that recess, I was with johnny, signing that agreement you advised me against. You were there.

Belle: No, actually, i wasn’T. Johnny asked me to give you some privacy, so I was out in the corridor, trying to find out when we would reconvene.

Ej: Oh. You didn’t see me leave, did you?

Belle: There are other exits. If you left a different way, how would I–

Ej: I didn’t! The only time I left my seat was when you called me up to the witness stand. If you don’t believe me, then ask my son.

Xander: So after abigail realized sarah wasn’t kristen in a mask, she thought she was gwen in a mask?

Chad: Right. Well, until gwen showed up.

Xander: What? Why didn’t you say that in the first place? Obviously, gwen wasn’t impersonating sarah!

Chad: I don’t know! I’m sorry! I–I don’t know what the hell is going on, either. I’m just trying to find my wife.

Xander: Well, did you try calling her?

Chad: Yes, of course I tried calling her. She’s not answering her phone, so I thought she came here following up on something.

Xander: But if abigail knows that gwen wasn’t impersonating sarah, ’cause she just saw them together, why would she come here to follow up?

Chad: Because she is not convinced that it was sarah.

Xander: Even though she’d just seen the proof right in front of her eyes?

Chad: My wife–she’s a reporter, right? She gets these instincts. Right now, she has an instinct that somebody’s running around salem in a mask.

Xander: Are we sure it’s the journalistic instincts talking and not the voices in her head?

Xander: Watch it.

Xander: Mate, look. The mystery is solved. Think you need to tell abigail to let it go.

Chad: I did. We were at home, having a relaxing night. I went to go check on dinner and came back, and she was gone. Johnny said that she flew out of the house, so I assumed she came here.

Xander: Well, she didn’T.

Chad: Great. Let me know if you see her, will you?

Xander: Yeah, sure thing, mate.

Ned: Now this is what I call serendipity.

Ava: Yeah? What are you talking about?

Ned: I overheard your dilemma. Here you are, trying to get rid of this woman, and here I am, about to fly my bird out of dodge.

Gwen: And you’d be willing to take her with you?

Belle: If you say you never left the courtroom, then why is chad so sure he saw you kissing abigail?

Ej: Isn’t it obvious? He’s lying.

Belle: Why? Why would he do that?

Ej: He’s out to get me, or did you not see him testify to a room full of people that i orchestrated my wife’s kidnapping?

Belle: Ej, before you made a pass at his wife, he was ready to exonerate you.

Ej: For the last time, I did not make a pass at his wife.

Belle: Okay, well, then, for the last time, why would chad say you did, then?

Ej: If you ask me, he’s being eaten alive by guilt.

Belle: Guilt?

Ej: For sending me away for something that I didn’t do. Chad knows full well that i wasn’t behind samantha’s kidnapping. He’s conspiring with that moron, lucas horton, to frame me. But if that ever got out, he would be fired from dimera, publicly disgraced, and end up going to prison himself, correct?

Belle: Possibly.

Ej: That reality must’ve set in during the recess, and so he decided that he would make sure that the truth would never come to light by giving false testimony that would guarantee i would end up in statesville. And the only way he could live with what he did was to somehow convince himself that I deserve it.

Belle: Hmm. By making up the story that you came on to his wife.

Ej: Chad has been so paranoid for so long about his brothers lusting after abigail, he may have found a reason to see things that aren’t really there.

Belle: Oh, so you’re saying he’s delusional?

Ej: I’m saying he committed a betrayal of the highest order. He doesn’t have the constitution for it, so he found a way to cope. He’s probably not even conscious that he did it.

Belle: Oh, my–now you sound like my mother.

Ej: He came up with something believable, didn’t he? I did take that role in johnny’s movie that involves sex scenes with abigail. It’s not a stretch that I would make a play for her.

Belle: But you didn’T.

Ej: Of course not. But if chad believed I did, then for the next decade, he could tell himself that I’m a low-life and he’s a good guy for doing the right thing.

Ej: Wow, that is very machiavellian of you.

Ej: Have you met my family?

Belle: Okay, well, listen. I seriously doubt that chad subconsciously is trying to alleviate his guilt, but let’s just say he is. Why would abigail go along with that, let him tell everyone that you were forcing yourself on her if it wasn’t true?

Ej: He’s her husband. She’s going to support him, no matter what.

Belle: Oh, god. Listen, ej, I know you’re upset, but what you’re saying is insane.

Ej: It’s the only plausible explanation, because I swear to god, I never laid a finger on abigail.

Ava: How much to fly her out of here?

Ned: I’m afraid I can’t offer much of a discount.

Gwen: Why not?

Ned: Well, I happen to know that’s abigail dimera, and i have to imagine that her very well-connected family is gonna wonder what happened to her.

Ava: Yeah. So what?

Ned: So that makes this a premium job.

Gwen: Meaning what?

Ned: I can’t just dump her in a field the next state over. The resources those people have? They’ll trace it back to me in a heartbeat. To make this lady disappear, really disappear, it takes some effort. It’s gonna cost you. Come on, wheels up in ten minutes, ladies. What’s it gonna be? You want me to fly your problem up, up, and away?

[Suspenseful percussive music]

Shawn: I’m sorry to interrupt your evening.

Nicole: It’s okay. Don’t–don’t worry about it.

Rafe: Uh, come on in, man. What’s up?

Shawn: Well, it’s trask. Right, she asked me to look into some recent arrests.

Rafe: Oh, which ones?

Shawn: All the ones that you signed off on.

Rafe: Okay, great. So let me guess: She wants to go over some cases and see if i have planted evidence.

Nicole: Oh, my god. This–this is ridiculous. Rafe didn’t do anything wrong. He’s c–this is so obvious that he’s being set up.

Shawn: I’m assuming that you two have discussed this.

Rafe: Mm-hmm.

Nicole: Yes, and this investigation is outrageous.

Shawn: I completely agree with you.

Nicole: So can’t you just go back and tell trask to–

Rafe: Nicole… it’s okay. Mm-hmm? I understand. She wants someone to go over all the cases, and, well, I’m just glad that it’s you.

Shawn: See, I told her that i think that you are completely innocent.

Rafe: Yes, and I am ready to prove my innocence, so whatever it is that you need to do.

Shawn: I spoke to a guy who was arrested last night.

Rafe: Wait, the b&e at the pawn shop down by the docks? Yeah, I signed off on that arrest. It was totally clean.

Shawn: Actually, he’s claiming that the evidence was planted, rafe.

Rafe: What?

Shawn: Yes, he’s claiming that, whatever the cops found at the scene it wasn’t his, he’s never seen it before, and it was planted there to make him look guilty.

Rafe: Okay, well, it’s a lie, right? I mean, obviously, this is all part of the frame-up. I mean, listen, trask knows that, right?

Shawn: I’m sorry, rafe, but trask actually sent me here to place you under arrest.

Nicole: Oh. Life’s been hard enough.

Melinda: Oh. Where’s your attorney?

Ej: My meeting’s over. I’m waiting for someone to escort me back to holding.

Melinda: Oh, don’t look so glum, mr. Dimera. You’re about to get some company.

Rafe: You’re here to arrest me?

Nicole: Shawn, you can’t do this.

Shawn: Listen, believe me, i do not want to, but I don’t have a choice.

Rafe: Oh, my god.

Ava: Oh, I am so sorry I’m late, but I brought desserts. What’s going on?

Shawn: You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford one, one will be provided for you. Do you understand the rights as I’ve read them to you?

Xander: Oh, I was wondering where you went.

Gwen: Yeah, I just, um… popped out for some window shopping. What have you been up to?

Xander: Chad dimera was just here, telling me this crazy story about a mask. Honestly, I had a hard time believing it.

Gwen: A mask, eh? Tell me all about it.

Chad: Abby, where are you? Why aren’t you picking up?

[Doorbell rings] Abby, hey, look, I’m getting worried. Call me when you get this, okay?

Belle: Hey. I’m sorry to bother you again. Listen, I just saw ej, and i wanted you to know, he adamantly denied making any kind of pass at abigail.

Chad: That’s great. Anyway, belle, I don’t have time for this right now, okay?

Belle: Why? What’s going on?

Chad: I can’t find abigail.

Ned: So glad those ladies coughed up the cash, ’cause this is a lot of work, mrs. Dimera.

Allie: You look upset. What’s going on?

Chanel: [Sighs] My mother saw us together.

Allie: What do you mean together?

Chanel: I mean together in bed.

[Soft dramatic music]

Paulina: Ugh. Stay out of it. Stay out of it, paulina. No, no, oh. None of your damn business. It doesn’t concern you at all.

Tripp: Okay, great. Patient talking to herself. Please tell me you’re not gearing up to tell me off.

Rafe: Fine, I’d be more than happy to talk to internal affairs. The sooner the better.

[Knock at door] You’re not– you’re not listening, ms. Trask. I want them to investigate because if they investigate, they will see that i have been set up. Come in already! Yeah, and then they will find that I have nothing to feel guilty about.

Ava as sarah: Let go of me!

Johnny: [Chuckles] I love talking to you. I just love it. And since my sister so rudely interrupted us earlier, I decided to follow you here. I hope you don’t mind.

Gabi: I guess what I am is flattered.

Allie: Your mom saw us in bed together? Okay, okay, well, well, we’re best friends, and you had just been publicly humiliated, and you didn’t want to sleep alone, so I slept over.

Chanel: When she saw us, we weren’t sleeping.

Allie: You mean she saw us?

Chanel: Yeah.

Allie: [Sighs] Oh, my god, okay. I don’t feel so good. What, does she have, like, a spy cam in your room or something?

Chanel: Apparently, when she opened the door, neither of us saw her. We were busy.

Allie: Well, I need to talk to her. Is she here?

Chanel: No, no, she went to the hospital. She had a doctor’s appointment.

Ava as sarah: That’s right. Abigail’s cousin.

Gwen: Yes, I’ve seen you in photographs. I’m gwen rizczech.

Ava as sarah: Oh, that’s right. You’re xander’s new girlfriend. Yeah, my mom told me about you.

Gwen: Right, um, well–

Ava as sarah: Look, no, we don’t need to say it’s nice to meet you. It probably isn’T. But don’t worry. I only came back to salem so that I can show everyone that I’m fine. Also you should know that I told xander in no uncertain terms that it is over between us.

Gwen: Oh.

Ava as sarah: Yeah. So you are welcome to him. I just want the past to stay in the past.

Gwen: Well, thank you for telling me that.

Ava as sarah: And now one more thing. My mom knew who I was. The man that I lived with for over a year knew who I was, so now I’m hoping that you know that it is really me, sarah, and I am not wearing a mask. Right?

[Dramatic music]

Rafe: Mm, thank you.

Nicole: Rafe, listen, I can’t stop thinking about what you said earlier. Do you really think that ava is the one who set you up? Oh, my god. Oh, my god, me and my big mouth.

Rafe: No, no, it’s okay she’s not even here.

Nicole: What do you mean she’s not here? She came to my office two hours ago and demanded that I show up here for dinner, and she’s not here?

Rafe: Yeah, I know.

Nicole: What? Well, what, is she playing games with us? Where is she?

Rafe: See, that’s the fun part. I have no idea.

Ava as sarah: Abigail, use your head. Do you really think that I’m gwen wearing a mask when she’s standing right there?

Abigail: [Sighs] No, I guess not.

Ava as sarah: Good.

Gwen: But no apology, right? No “sorry for assaulting you and grabbing your arm really hard and clawing at your face”?

Abigail: I– I am sorry, sarah, but I just–I– kristen tried to do the same thing to kate.

Gwen: Kristen? Kristen dimera? What does she have to do with this?

Ava as sarah: Gwen.

Gwen: I mean, really, you’ve lost your mind, abigail.

Ava as sarah: Gwen, let’s all–let’s all just calm down ’cause I’ve put my family through a lot of stress and worrying about me unnecessarily. Okay? I do have to go, but I really don’t want to leave with any bad feelings between us.

Abigail: Right, yeah, no, I’m sorry. I–I’ll let you go.

Ava as sarah: Okay. Abigail, you get some help. Okay.

[Soft dramatic music]

Gwen: Satisfied?

Abigail: Guess I have to be.

Gwen: Got that right.

Ava as sarah: That was close.

Gwen: Really, really close, but thank god you pulled that out of your hat, ava.

Allie: Tripp’s on duty. I mean, what if she sees him?

Chanel: It doesn’t matter. Mama wouldn’t say anything to anybody, especially not to tripp.

Allie: God, I hope that you’re right. It would just kill tripp if he found out.

Chanel: Yeah, I mean, that’s exactly what I was trying to tell you. I’m glad you finally figured it out for yourself.

Allie: I was face-to-face with him earlier, and…

[Sighs] The way he was looking at me, I mean, he was worried about me. He’s such a good guy. I really don’t deserve him.

Chanel: Oh, that is not true.

Allie: I just couldn’t hurt him. And yes, I did finally realize for myself that he cannot find out, especially because you know what happened between us is never ever going to happen again, right?

Tripp: Why would you want another doctor?

Paulina: Oh, it’s nothing personal

Tripp: Well, it kind of is. I mean, did you have a problem with the way I treated your ankle before?

Paulina: No, no, you did a great job.

Tripp: Okay, then why would you want to be seen by someone else?

Paulina: Actually, I don’T. I apologize–just go ahead. Go ahead, treat me. Go on, go on, doc. Whew. I’ll just sit here. I’ll sit here. I’ll just keep my big mouth shut.

Gabi: I don’t see why we can’t continue our conversation here.

Johnny: Well, we could. It’s just kind of loud in here. I want to make sure I don’t miss a word.

Gabi: [Chuckles]

Johnny: [Chuckles] Actually, it’s not that loud in here. Okay, I know. I just wanted to be alone with you.

Gabi: That sounds provocative. You want to show me your etchings?

Johnny: I don’t have any, but I do have a very sizeable block of dimera shares. I think that could be really useful to you.

Gabi: You want to be alone with me to talk business?

Johnny: Among other things. My sister interrupted us before, so why take the chance of someone else interrupting us?

Jake: Ah, you mean someone like me?

Chad: Hey, better late than never.

Abigail: Sorry.

Chad: You want a drink before dinner? What can I get you?

Abigail: [Sighs] I’m fine.

Chad: You don’t sound fine.

Abigail: [Sighs] Sorry, it’s just something happened.

Chad: Okay. Are you all right?

Abigail: No, I’m fine, but something’s off, like, really off. I mean, I was proven wrong and everything, gwen was there. And then it wasn’t kristen because kristen called me, but then I just– I can’t figure–

Chad: Hold on, wait a second. So kristen called you? And you saw gwen? I’m sorry. I think I’m missing something here.

Abigail: No, it’s because I don’t even know what happened, but I just–I found sarah.

Chad: You found sarah? That’s fantastic.

Abigail: I mean, I didn’t find her. She came to town on her own just because she wanted to tell maggie not to worry about her?

Chad: Okay, so then that’s great, right? That’s good for maggie.

Abigail: I don’t know. I’m just not sure because I talked to sarah myself, and I’m not really sure that it’s her.

Gwen: So let me ask you this. How did abigail get the idea that it was me under that mask?

Ava: Well, she didn’t start there. At first, she thought that I was kristen. Then she wanted this whole song and dance about how I kidnapped kate, and then I wore a mask to break up with jake so jake wouldn’t follow her, and then she decided it was you with a sarah mask doing the same thing so xander wouldn’t follow sarah.

Gwen: Wow. Well, she got pretty bloody close to the truth, didn’t she?

Ava: Sure did.

Gwen: So then tell me. How did she… how did she go from thinking it was kristen to thinking it was me?

Ava: Oh. Well, kristen called right in the middle of her tirade.

[Chuckles] So it was clear that sarah was not kristen. And I tried to make her realize she was being absolutely ridiculous thinking that you were sarah, but she did correctly deduce that you are the one with the motive.

Gwen: [Sighs] Well, thank god you and i switched places after I was sarah, and I kicked xander in the teeth for the final time. Otherwise, this whole thing could’ve been an absolute disaster.

Tripp: Okay, so the swelling has gone down, but you should still ice it if it bothers you.

Paulina: Will do.

Tripp: Good news is that you won’t need the cane anymore.

Paulina: Oh! And she threw down her cane and walked! Hallelujah!

Tripp: Well, take it easy. Take it easy, all right. First, no 5ks or anything. All right?

Paulina: Oh, darn it.

Tripp: I’m sorry.

Paulina: Well, at least I’ll be able to make it from the living room to the kitchen. Chanel, she’ll be ecstatic. Won’t have to hear my clomping around in the morning.

Tripp: Yeah, how is chanel doing?

Paulina: Well, she was devastated at first, you know, johnny dumping her. Miserable little creep. But she’s doing a lot better thanks to allie.

Chanel: Of course, right. Never again. What happened between us, we agreed on it. I was just in really bad shape, and you comforted me. That’s all because you’re such a great friend. I just feel bad that I… that I made things weird between you and tripp.

Allie: It’s fine. Just don’t worry about it.

Chanel: Uh, so you never told me why you came by in the first place.

Allie: Oh, right, um… I tried to talk to johnny.

Chanel: Oh, and how did that go?

Allie: Not so great.

Chanel: What did he say?

Allie: It’s not– it’s not really what he said. Uh, look, I don’t know if I should be telling you this.

Chanel: Well, now you have to.

Allie: Okay. When I went over to that stupid mansion, I walked in on johnny kissing another woman.

Johnny: Uncle jake, how nice to see you. Gabi and I were just discussing a potential alliance. I still think we could be quite useful to each other.

Jake: Huh, you come up with any other ideas?

Johnny: One or two, but we got interrupted. That’s why I came here, to pick up where we left off at the mansion.

Jake: Mm, and what exactly were you talking about at the mansion?

Johnny: I wouldn’t mind starting with you.

Jake: So one of you gonna tell me?

Johnny: Sure.

Gabi: No, uh, let me.

[Jazz music]

Tripp: I’m glad allie was able to help chanel.

Paulina: Yeah, she was wonderful. She was wonderful. You know, made sure she got home, she got her in bed. Then she left right away. Uh-huh, that’s just what she did, she left right away. Oh, allie, she’s such a good friend, uh-huh, and chanel, she needs a good friend. That’s what she needs. That’s all she needs right now.

Tripp: Paulina, you seem a little nervous.

Paulina: Do I?

Tripp: And I think I know why.

Chanel: Oh, johnny didn’t waste any time, did he?

Allie: No, he didn’T.

Chanel: [Sighs] Who was it?

Allie: It doesn’t matter.

Chanel: Who was it, horton?

Allie: It was gabi hernandez. She lives with his uncle, jake.

Chanel: He was making moves on his uncle’s girlfriend?

Allie: I know. It’s gross. But I swear, when I tried to talk to him, too, it’s like he’s hit some new personal low.

Chanel: As always, my mother was right.

Allie: That johnny’s a jerk?

Chanel: A real jerk. Never loved me. God, lied to me.

Allie: Hey, good riddance to him, chanel, okay? He’s bad news.

Chanel: Then why does it hurt so much?

Allie: Hey.

Chanel: [Sobs softly]

Gabi: Well, johnny and i didn’t get to talk very much because his sister interrupted us at the mansion.

Johnny: Yeah, she’s mad at me for divorcing her best friend.

Jake: Mm, well, that’s unfair seeing as you, what, gave it your best for a week or two?

Johnny: Act in haste, repent at leisure.

Jake: Huh.

Gabi: Jake, why don’t you get us some drinks, and then we can tell johnny here all of our ideas and how we can all work together?

Johnny: Ooh, that sounds super fun.

Jake: Sure. Get you a beer?

Johnny: Actually, I will have a hot toddy.

Jake: Can I get you a shawl with that, johnny?

Johnny: [Chuckles]

Jake: Gabi?

Gabi: I’m fine.

Jake: You good?

Gabi: Mm-hmm.

Johnny: I noticed you didn’t tell your boyfriend that I kissed you. I take that to mean you’d like to keep that our little secret? And that you wouldn’t mind if it happened again.

Chad: So first you thought it was kristen, and then you thought it was gwen.

Abigail: Until kristen called me, and gwen walked out of the inn.

Chad: Sure, so doesn’t that mean that it was actually sarah?

Abigail: I know it seems that way, but I–

Chad: But what?

Abigail: I just can’t stop thinking about how kristen abducted kate, then wore a kate mask and went and broke up with jake. It just all feels so similar to what’s going on with sarah and xander.

Chad: Yeah, it is weird. I mean, first sarah dumped xander, and now xander is with gwen.

Abigail: It’s awkward. I mean, I just feel like– I felt like I was in some kind of a bad play.

Ava: I know that I got upset when you asked me to take over and put on that stupid mask again, but…

[Chuckles] Did it turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

Gwen: Literally.

Ava: Whoa. What do you mean, you want me to play sarah again? You already got maggie to buy that her precious sarah is safe, and you dumped xander. Hard part’s done.

Gwen: No, no, I–I am done. I tell you, I almost had a complete freak out wearing this bloody mask. It is absolute bloody hell, and I’ve got abigail breathing down my neck.

Ava: What, so you want me to do it? You know, it’s not exactly my problem. I think I’ve already gone above and beyond here.

Gwen: I’m sorry, I can’T. I can’t do it. I walked in the room, and I saw her drinking tea.

Ava: Who, maggie?

Gwen: And then she saw me– no, she saw sarah. She saw her daughter, and she flew across the room, and she hugged me.

[Soft dramatic music]

In my entire life, my mother has never looked at me the way that she– the way that she looked at me.

[Sighs] And I tried to keep it together, but xander, when I could see it, he still–he still–

Ava: Okay, you need a drink.

Gwen: I need you. I need you– I need you to help me. Please, if I go out there as sarah, and I run into somebody who knew her, who loved her… I could lose it. And then all of this is gonna be for nothing.

[Sighs] I can’t do it. I can’T.

Ava: Well, lucky for you, I am such a nice person.

Gwen: I owe you. I do know how much I owe you.

Ava: Big time. But… you need to get going because sarah needs to get to the airstrip.

Gwen: No, couldn’t– couldn’t you do it please?

Ava: Uh-uh, I’m gonna have to say no this time, sweetheart. I’m having the dinner with rafe and nicole.

Gwen: You’re having dinner with them? You hate them.

Ava: Yeah, I know that. You know that. They don’T. Well, not yet.

Nicole: Well, this is fun. You must come to dinner. I won’t take no for an answer. It’ll just be the three of us, only I won’t be there.

Rafe: Oh, sit down. Have some wine.

Nicole: Rafe, you are the one who came to me and said you think ava got the perps to say that you were the one that planted evidence on them.

Rafe: Yeah, I know.

Nicole: And you think ava’s the one who cut poor duke’s head off.

Rafe: I thought, yeah, maybe.

Nicole: And she came to my office not just once, but twice to set up this dinner, and now she’s not here.

Rafe: You see, that’s why I shouldn’t have told you any of this because you’re all worked up.

Nicole: No, no, look, I already felt a little weird before you told me anything. All her friendliness. Oh, you and rafe are friends. You shouldn’t not see each other because of me. It just seemed forced. But now that I think about it, it’s not just forced. It’s calculated. Okay, rafe, this is your cue to jump in and tell me that I’m overreacting and my guilt has me paranoid.

Rafe: Yeah. Yeah, just I don’t know that you are.

[Dramatic music]

Honestly, I thought my floors were clean.

Gabi: I didn’t tell jake that you kissed me because I didn’t want him to beat the crap out of you.

Johnny: You know, gabi, I advise you to rethink your relationship with him. I mean, that kind of behavior doesn’t indicate mutual trust.

Gabi: [Chuckles] Yeah, johnny, keep on giving me relationship tips. How’s chanel these days?

Jake: Here’s your toddy, johnny. Hopefully the bartender didn’t get too trigger happy with the cinnamon sticks. So… let’s finally get down to business, huh?

[Jazz music]

Chad: Don’t you think maybe you just want this to be true?

Abigail: No, I want the person that I talked to to actually be sarah. I want sarah to be safe, and I want her to be making her own decisions. That’s what I want. I mean, think about it. What if this were kate? Okay, if kate had not gotten away from christian…

Chad: Mm-hmm.

Abigail: What does that look like? How does that play out, okay? We get periodic text messages that say, “hi, don’t worry about me, I’m fine.” Et cetera, and then her phone loses a connection, and we never see or hear from her ever again just like the text messages that maggie got and just how sarah’s phone got disconnected.

Chad: I see parallels.

Abigail: [Sighs] I am just worried that sarah is still in trouble or worse, and this is all some big charade to make us stop looking for her.

Chad: Well, kristen of the masks isn’t here, so it’s not kristen in the mask.

Abigail: And it wasn’t gwen. But I barely got off the phone with kristen, and then gwen comes out of the inn. It just all felt so staged.

Chad: Well, if it is, then there’s another actor involved.

Abigail: Maybe it was a fake call. Maybe it was gwen in a sarah mask, and then kristen calls me from the inn and then walks out in a gwen mask? Oh. My head hurts.

Chad: [Chuckles] I can see why.

Abigail: I’m really scared for sarah. Whoever the person is that I talked to, that sarah was on their way to the airstrip, so just means tonight is my last chance to get to the bottom of this.

Gwen: Oh, come on, you hate rafe and nicole so much. You’re throwing them a dinner party? Let me guess, you’re making penne out of strychnine?

Ava: I cannot let them know that I’m onto them. Not yet.

Gwen: Look, I just– just phone them or something and tell them that you’re running late. I–I can’t– I can’t take the chance of anyone seeing me as sarah. I–I’m not gonna be able to pull it off, and you’re– you’re really, really good at this, you are. You’re so good. Please. Please come. I won’t ever ask you for anything ever again.

[Soft dramatic music]

Nicole: I feel like I’m in “fatal attraction,” only, this time, the wife is glenn close.

Rafe: [Sighs] I’m sorry. I am. You know, maybe– maybe we’re just being paranoid.

[Phone rings] It’s her.

[Phone rings] Ava, are you all right?

Ava: Yeah, look, I’m so sorry. Something’s come up, but the salad is already made, so just put the eggplant parm in the oven at 350 for 30 minutes.

Rafe: Oh, no, that’s okay. We’ll wait for you.

Ava: No, no, no, don’T. Um, I don’t know how long I’m gonna be.

Rafe: Ava, what’s going on? Is something wrong? Ava? She hung up.

Nicole: Well, did she say where she was or when she’s coming back?

Rafe: No.

Nicole: [Sighs] Oh, my god, rafe, do you think she left us here alone on purpose? People everywhere living with

Chad: Okay, abby, there are some weird parallels. But let’s think about this here. Maggie and xander both talked to this woman, yeah? Did either one of them express suspicions?

Abigail: Maggie did not, and I haven’t spoken to xander since he saw her.

Chad: Okay, he probably would’ve called you, though, if there were. I mean, you two have been working on this thing together. He knows as much as you do, and he thinks that’s sarah.

Abigail: I guess.

Chad: Okay, look, look, just–hey, just relax, okay? I’m gonna go read the kids a book, and then we can do dinner. Then, when I get back, pew, pew, pew. I’m gonna do everything in my power to take your mind off of this sarah.

[Soft dramatic music]

Paulina: Oh, oh, oh.

Tripp: Look, and I know that there was a point in time that chanel and allie were a little bit more than just friends.

Paulina: So you know about that?

Tripp: Yeah, allie doesn’t keep secrets from me.

Paulina: Is that right?

Tripp: And I know that they kissed a couple of times in the past and that it’s over. Allie loves me.

Paulina: Mm

Tripp: And that she and chanel are just really good friends.

Paulina: And the check is in the mail.

Tripp: I’m sorry. I didn’t catch that.

Paulina: Oh, no, I was– I said, “I’m so happy for you, dr. Johnson.”

Tripp: Oh, please, tripp.

Paulina: No, here in the hospital, you’re dr. Johnson. Here, oh, get my cane. Give it to somebody who can use it. Well, I’ll see you later. Oh.

Tripp: Well, you can kind of see where chanel came from.

[Chuckles]

Allie: I’m sorry. Ugh, I shouldn’t have just blurted that out. I just–I just thought you should know. That’s all.

Chanel: No, I– I’m glad you told me. It’s not your fault. I needed to know.

Allie: Just please don’t cry, okay? He’s so not worth it.

Chanel: Oh, you’ve been telling me that from the beginning, and I wouldn’t listen.

Allie: I didn’t want to be right, but I mean, the brother that I grew up with, my ally, my friend, he’s gone. I mean, I don’t know what happened, but he’s gone.

Chanel: Yeah, apparently.

Allie: Hey, want to talk about it?

Chanel: I will, but just not right now. Okay?

Allie: I got it. Okay, well, call me if you need anything, okay?

[Soft dramatic music]

Chanel: [Sighs]

[Sobs]

[Sighs]

Jake: So we’re thinking we pool our shares, and we work on getting a heavy-hitter on the board at dimera.

Johnny: Who do you have in mind?

Jake: I don’t know. Somebody like victor kiriakis.

Johnny: The competition?

Johnny: Why not? Think about it. We get him thinking we’re interested in an alliance, right? We bring him onboard, sic him on chad and ej, and when we get rid of them, we get rid of him.

Johnny: You know, I like the way you think, but I’m not sure that’s the move.

Jake: I don’t know. It could pay off big-time.

Johnny: And it could blow up in our faces. I need some time to think about this. Something or someone would really have to persuade me into thinking this is a good idea.

[Jazz music]

Jake: So… what are you not telling me, gabs? Like pulsing, electric shocks,

Rafe: You thi

Rafe: You think ava planned this?

Nicole: Maybe. Maybe she’s testing us. Or maybe she’s putting her money where her mouth is. She says she trusts us, and leaving us here just proves it.

Rafe: Or maybe she’s playing some sort of sick game. The more I think about that, the more it makes sense. Maybe nothing come up. Maybe she was just planning on walking in here in the hopes of seeing–

Nicole: Seeing what?

Rafe: This.

[Line trilling]

[Phone ringing]

Gwen: You’re there already?

Ava as sarah: Yeah, i just got here.

Gwen: Yes, and?

Ava as sarah: And I made sure that a couple people got a good look at me on the way. I’ll make sure that the security camera has a clear shot of me, and then I’ll get out of camera range and take off this damn mask and get home.

Gwen: [Sighs] I really can’t thank you enough.

Ava as sarah: Just remember that. You owe me.

Jake: He kissed you? That fricking snake.

Gabi: Relax. I slapped him across the face.

Jake: Doesn’t seem to have put him off much.

Gabi: Well, I didn’t want it to. The more I push him away, put him down, he tells himself I’m protesting too much. That inflated ego of his is putty in my hands.

Jake: I don’t like it.

Gabi: Well, you’re gonna love it once he puts victor on the board, and I know he will.

Jake: He doesn’t give you the creeps? Guy creeps the hell out of me.

Gabi: Okay, yes, fine, but women know how to compartmentalize their feelings, and now that he’s gone, I get to concentrate on you.

[Jazz music]

Allie: Hi.

Tripp: Hey, what are you doing here?

Allie: Well, I brought you chowder from the pub, and a slice of chanel’s pecan pie.

Tripp: Oh, my favorites. Thank you so much.

Allie: I didn’t want you to have to eat hospital food, and also mainly I missed you.

Tripp: I missed you too.

[Tender music]

Paulina: Hmm. No more cane!

[Laughs] And good riddance.

Chanel: Mama, that’s great. That’s really great.

[Soft dramatic music]

Paulina: Out with it, baby. What’s wrong?

Chanel: I’ve– I’ve been thinking about what you said before. You were right.

Paulina: Of course I am. About what?

Chanel: Johnny. Why should he be living the high life while i have to wake up at the crack of dawn to make a living? And mostly because of what he did to me, you said I should go after a divorce settlement, and that is exactly what I’m going to do. I’m going to take that little worm for everything that he’s worth.

Paulina: It’s always good to have goals in life.

Johnny: [Deep voice] Oh, gabi. You think you’re so smart, but you have no idea who you’re actually up against.

[Indistinct eerie whisper]

Chad: What are you doing here?

Johnny: [Voice normalizes] Not thrilled to see me?

Chad: Nah, it’s just that abi–abigail was just here. Where is she?

Johnny: She was just leaving as I got here. Drove off like a bat out of hell.

[Eerie dramatic music]

Abigail: I knew it. Oh, oh. I knew it wasn’t– I knew it was… you?
