Phyllis: Okay. Well, this is the first meeting of the disappear Diane Club, or the Jettison Jenkins Foundation.

Nikki: Phyllis, I understand you need to inject a little humor here, but the reality is, this is a dire situation. We have got to get Diane out of town before she does some real harm to people we love.

Phyllis: Oh, no one agrees with you more than I on that.

Ashley: So, let’s get down to business. How do we make it happen?

******************

Adam: What happened to you? Have you been on a bender?

Ashland: I’ve been in jail. Not that it’s any of your business.

Adam: Well, I guess that explains why you haven’t answered my calls. But what could you have done to land you in jail? You tried to see Harrison, didn’t you? You defied the restraining order.

Ashland: I thought I found an ally in Diane.

Adam: If you would’ve asked me, I would have warned you against that.

Ashland: Mm.

Adam: No one has ever trusted her without living to regret it. Including me.

Ashland: Well, I thought she, more than anyone, would understand what it feels like to be separated from your own son. She’d taken Harrison to the park… let me spend a little time with him, and then…

Adam: Well, you knew it. The cops were swarming. Yeah, she figured she could use you to score some points with the Newmans.

Ashland: I’m pretty sure Victor was behind it from the beginning.

Adam: Mm. Well, that does sound like dear old dad. But, uh, I guess the question now is, what do you intend to do about it?

Ashley: She did it, didn’t she?

Jack: What? What are you saying?

Ashley: Phyllis pulled a Phyllis.

Jack: I don’t even know what that means.

Ashley: Jack, you know exactly what it means. What did she do? Listen, I’m done settling. Because this is my secret.

*************

Noah: Oh, no, she can’t.

Phyllis: Why not?

Noah: Uh, we — we have that thing that we’re going to, and we don’t want to be late to that because…

Allie: He’s great. I’m so sorry, but I’m sure you understand.

Noah: Busy woman like Phyllis, better believe she does. Matter of fact, we have taken up way too much time as it is, so we should probably go on.

Allie: I’m sure we’ll catch up soon. I’ll talk to you later, Phyllis. Okay. Bye.

Diane: Wow. You can really clear a room.

Sally: [ Sniffles ] I am leaving now, so if you want to go through my things to make sure I’m not taking off with any office supplies, be my guest. Go ahead.

Nick: That won’t be necessary.

Sally: Okay. Well, I guess this is goodbye.

Nick: I mean, if you want it to be.

Sally: What?

Nick: We talked about it.

Victoria: And, uh, we have decided to keep you on, at least in the short term.

Sally: Okay. What’s the catch?

[ Door opens, closes ]

Jack: Uh, bad timing. I apologize.

Noah: No worries. I mean, this is your house, right?

Allie: Yeah. We — we apologize.

Jack: Well, now that we’ve all apologized…

Noah: I was just dropping allie off.

Allie: Yeah, we — we had a great day at the gcac rooftop pool with mariah and tessa, and then went to the coffeehouse.

Jack: Well, that sounds like great fun. You know, you’re always welcome to use our pool. You can invite all your friends over anytime you like.

Noah: Oh. Thank you, jack. That’s — that’s very generous of you.

Jack: Okay, well, I’ll, uh, see you later.

Noah: Are you okay?

Allie: Oh, my god! That was so awkward.

Noah: Come on. It was not that bad.

Allie: Okay. That was my grandfather. What if victor walked in on us?

Noah: Okay. Good point. But, hey, moments pass. I’m sure jack’s already forgotten all about it, so there’s nothing to worry about.

Ashley: So let’s get down to business. How do we make it happen?

[ Knock on door ]

Adam: Ashland, you in there?

[ Knock on door ]

[ Knock on door ] Excuse me. Uh, I was wondering if you could help me. My friend is staying here, and I’m worried about him. He has a heart condition, and he’s not answering his phone or the door. So I was just wondering if you could let me in.

I’m not supposed to do that.

Adam: But, um, what if something happened to him? I mean, he could be hurt or worse. You know, I could never live with myself if something happened to him, and now I’ve asked you to help, so, unfortunately, I’ve brought you into this dilemma, too. Thank you.

[ Lock clicks ] Thank you. Ashland? Ash–

What a mess.

Nick: Vick and I talked about it, and we agreed that some of your ideas that you mentioned during your — what’d you call it? — An outpouring?

Victoria: As emotional as it was.

Nick: Have real potential. And we would like to give you the chance to see them through.

Sally: So you want me to stay on at newman media?

Victoria: We’ll consider you an interim ceo for a period of time. I think 90 days is reasonable. And then, we’ll evaluate your performance, and if you can meet or hopefully exceed our expectations, we’ll keep you on. However, I want to make it very clear that I fully expect newman media to play a key role in moving the entire company forward, and if you cannot demonstrate the leadership to do that, then, well, we’ll have no choice but to replace you with someone who can.

Sally: No pressure. Yes. Yes, I’m up for the challenge.

Nick: We realize we’re asking a lot of someone to run a company of this size, like you — no offense — but adam obviously had a lot of faith in you, but I’m sure he thought he’d be around to help guide you through it.

Sally: I can do this without his help.

Victoria: I suggest that you think about this very carefully before taking it on. There’s a lot more riding on this than just your pride. Millions of dollars worth of revenue, people’s livelihoods, their professional reputations, so if you can’t say with complete certainty that you can do the job, you should let me know now. I would be more than happy to give you a robust severance package and a positive recommendation for wherever you may want to go. The choice is yours.

Sally: I am exactly the right person to be running this company. I promise you will not regret this decision.

Victoria: Okay. Good. I look forward to working with you.

[ Door closes ]

Adam: He’s not in there.

Your friend must be a troublemaker.

Adam: Oh, you don’t know the half of it.

Ashland: Why are you here?

Adam: Uh, I came to check on you. You were M.I.A. I was worried about you. And what happened here? Were you robbed? Maybe we should call the police.

Ashley: So I think it’s obvious that kyle is the only one who has any influence with diane, right? I mean, he invited her to stay here, and he was putting her up the gcac.

Nikki: And he hired her at marchetti. We have to make him realize that that woman is not to be trusted.

Ashley: Could you speak to summer? Get her to open kyle’s eyes?

Phyllis: I’ve already spoken to summer about this like a million times. She just wants to support kyle. I’m not the best messenger when it comes to kyle and summer. I get very emotional when it comes to diane, and they both have decided that I’ve lost perspective.

Ashley: Is that because of what happened with you and jack?

Nikki: What are you talking about?

Phyllis: I’m sorry. What do you know?

Ashley: Um… I mean, jack just gave me the gist of it. And for the record, I don’t blame you for what you did, and I told him so.

Nikki: Alright, just a minute. What did phyllis do?

Noah: You know, I don’t have to leave right away. We could use the pool, like jack said.

Allie: But we already went swimming today.

Noah: Okay. Well, maybe i just want to spend more time with you.

Allie: Or maybe you are just trying to procrastinate from telling your dad.

Noah: Yes, I am procrastinating a little bit, but that does not negate the fact that I want to see you again. Maybe we can go back to the rooftop. It’s really fun at night. They got music, dancing…

Allie: I don’t know. I-I’m starting my jabot internship tomorrow, and I don’t want jack to think I’m not taking it seriously, you know? Like, how would it look if I was out partying all night?

Noah: We don’t have to stay that late. Unless this is your very nice way of telling me you’d rather not go.

Allie: No. No, it’s — it’s not that. I just — I don’t want jack to get the wrong idea.

Noah: Jack or — or me? If you have age-related macular degeneration,

Ashland: I, uh — I’m sorry about the mess. I will, uh… clean it up myself. I promise.

Victoria: I think your first move should be hiring a coo with experience. Someone who’s been in the media business for years, who knows all the players, who could be a good resource for you. You know, there are several candidates within the company that we could promote.

Nick: What about darren? He’s got decades of experience.

Victoria: You know, I heard he was retiring, but maybe we could talk him out of it.

Nick: It’s worth a shot.

Sally: It won’t be necessary to recruit any new candidates.

Victoria: Why not?

Sally: Because I have already offered the job to someone, and they have accepted.

Victoria: Who?

Sally: Chloe mitchell.

Victoria: I thought the idea was to hire someone who could make up for your lack of experience.

Sally: It’s true that chloe has mostly worked in fashion, like me, but we worked really well together before. And she’s a smart and savvy creative thinker, and those are things that can’t be taught. She can learn the rest just like I did, just like adam did whenever victor put him in charge of newman media. He had absolutely no background in media and turned out to be very successful.

Victoria: Okay. Well, I will look at this as your first big decision. A test of your judgment. You and chloe can rise or fall together.

Noah: I hope that you’d let me know if anything that’s happened has made you uncomfortable. If you’d rather just stay friends, we can.

Allie: That’s not what I’m saying. And I know jack doesn’t have a problem with you. In fact, he goes on and on about how great you are.

Noah: I do have excellent references, but it really only matters what you think.

Allie: I guess I just still feel a bit blown away by how fast my life is changing. I mean, new home, job, family. And now this.

Noah: We’ll slow it down, then. We don’t have to go to the rooftop.

Allie: No, no, it sounds fun, and I don’t want to put it off.

Noah: Alright. I’ll see you there, then.

Allie: And maybe, when I show up, you can tell me how it went with your dad.

Noah: Right. Right, yeah. I might need a sympathetic ear by the end of the night.

Phyllis: Um… I was trying to send a message to diane, and jack felt used. I feel bad, but what’s done is done.

Nikki: Well, this may surprise you, but I agree with ashley. I mean, the impulse to fend off diane is sometimes overwhelming because she is a predator.

Phyllis: Yes, she is a predator. That’s my point. So when I try to talk to summer and kyle about diane, I’m very emotional. And they just see it like I’m trying to justify my behavior and I go nowhere.

Nikki: Yeah, I’ve tried talking to summer, too, with very little success. I don’t know. Maybe jack would be more receptive to what we have to say. I mean, not — not what you would say but what ashley and i would tell him.

Phyllis: Yeah, that’s great. I’m all for that. I mean, jack will listen to you. Definitely. And then kyle will listen to jack, for sure.

Ashley: I’m not that positive, actually, that jack would hear what we have to say, nikki, and I’m afraid that if we push too hard, it might backfire.

Phyllis: Wait a second. Why are you saying that?

Ashley: I think his feelings for diane are very complicated.

Phyllis: Oh. Wh– ashley, what’s that supposed to mean? (Kid 1) where’s lucky?

Nick: Do not hesitate to reach out to either one of us if you need advice or just someone to bounce ideas off of. We are here for you anytime you need.

Sally: Okay.

Victoria: We want to help you in any way that we can.

Sally: Is that a diplomatic way of saying that you want to keep tabs on me?

Victoria: No, not at all.

Nick: Think of it as us wanting to take a very active role in supporting you.

Sally: Uh-huh.

Victoria: I’m guessing that adam has probably said some negative things about us and warned you not to trust us, but I’m hoping by now that you’ll see that you can’t take everything that he says at face value.

Sally: Well, I do recall him telling me that I would regret getting involved with him. That much was true.

Victoria: Look, this is probably the last thing that you want to hear, but you’re better off without him. Adam has a way of turning on everyone eventually. And you have this opportunity now that he left you, in all honesty, that wouldn’t have happened if you were still together.

Sally: Well, this job is one hell of a silver lining, and I intend to make the most of it.

Nick: We are very eager to see what you can do with the role.

Sally: I appreciate that. You can count on me to come through for you.

Sally: [ Breathes deeply ]

Ashland: You know, it’s been a long day. I have to clean up this room, so why don’t you just… leave? Hmm?

Adam: Okay. I’ll go. But then what? I mean, you can’t let this latest provocation go unanswered. You have to know that my family is going to go public with the news that you were arrested and you were thrown in jail. Right? They’re gonna leak it to the press or to that podcaster. They’re determined to destroy whatever is left of your reputation.

Ashland: And that breaks your heart, does it?

Adam: Look, it could have just as easily been me in the crosshairs. They’re probably gonna come after me when they’re done destroying you.

Ashland: You don’t think your family has any loyalty toward you?

Adam: Unfortunately, no. Okay. My dad only uses me, and my brother and sister make me think I can earn their loyalty and trust, but it isn’t true. It’s just one big rigged carnival game, like it always is.

Ashland: So now you’re rooting for me to tear them all to shreds?

Adam: Well, you did a pretty good job on this room. Or was that enough for you? You get it all out of your system? Or was a couple hours in jail to cool your heels enough to convince you to give up?

Ashland: I think you know me better than that.

Jack: Noah’s gone. Next time I see his car outside, I’ll come in the back.

Allie: That is not necessary. This is your house, and I should have been more aware of myself.

Jack: I was kidding, I was kidding. There’s no reason for you to be embarrassed. I told you, I like the idea of you spending time with noah. You’re getting out. You’re living your life. You’re having a ball. You deserve it.

Allie: I did have a really good time at the gcac rooftop pool. In fact, noah has asked me to come back and see it at night with him.

Jack: Well, I think you should do that. It sounds like fun. Or not. I don’t want to be nosy. Is there a problem?

Ashley: I don’t know exactly what is going on.

Phyllis: When you say “going on,” what does that mean?

Ashley: It’s nothing romantic. Oh, my. God forbid.

Nikki: Jack would have more sense than that.

Ashley: Well, I did speak with him earlier, and I got the impression he thinks that she deserves a second chance.

Phyllis: Oh, my — I can’T. I can’t even believe this. I can’t even believe this. I mean, this is precisely what I was talking to you about the other day. You guys have got to talk to jack. He cannot let his guard down even a little bit.

Ashley: I’m not sure what you expect us to do.

Phyllis: Then talk to him! Convince him!

Ashley: Shh!

Phyllis: Or else diane will ruin his life and my daughter’s like she has all of ours.

Ashley: Okay, phyllis, listen to me, okay? There are limitations to what my influence can actually be in this situation.

Phyllis: No, no! There are only the limitations that you have in your own mind, ashley.

Ashley: Are you okay? Are you okay? Seriously. Because we can’t be partners in this if nikki and I have to constantly worry about you going off the deep end and doing something stupid.

Phyllis: I’m not gonna do something stupid. I am focused. I am focused on bringing this woman down.

Ashley: I get it, but you can’t be irrational about it.

Nikki: Everybody — shh! — Stop. This is not productive. We need to keep our eyes on the prize… to get rid of diane. Kids, one year they want all dinosaurs stuff

“The young and the restless”

will continue. Need a cleanser that does more?

Allie: You don’t have anything to worry about, jack. Nothing is wrong. In fact, everything has gone so great that it feels overwhelming at times. Anyways, it’s a good problem to have.

Jack: I’m sure if you wanted to slow things down, noah would understand.

Allie: He’s already said that. And he’s been very sweet. He’s been kind and thoughtful of my feelings. And… and I really like him, if that’s not obvious.

Jack: Yeah, I kind of sensed that.

Allie: [ Chuckles ] God, I don’t know why I’m acting like a confused teenager.

Jack: Because love does that to people. Doesn’t matter how old you are. I’m not suggesting that you and noah are in the love phase. If you are, of course, that’s great. But, look, all I’m trying to say is, it’s none of my business. I just care that you’re happy. If you’re happy, I’m happy for you.

Allie: Thank you.

Ashley: So I think we have to face the facts here that jack, kyle, and summer don’t want to hear anything negative about diane. They are too invested in this incredible transformation that she’s apparently made. If we’re going to get them to change their minds, we’re going to have to give them evidence and not just suspicions.

Phyllis: Right. Right. Nikki, what about this investigation you have into diane’s past in los angeles? Any leads?

Nikki: Not yet, I’m sorry to say. “Taylor jensen” had a very low profile down there, but I’m not giving up.

Ashley: I’m so happy to hear that because I refuse to believe that diane was able to keep her hands clean for all those years. There has to be somebody who was a witness or a victim of one of her scams, right?

Nikki: That’s right.

Phyllis: Yeah. Allie is the only one she’s targeted from los angeles. By the way, I wanted to tell you, um, before you entered the coffeehouse, I had a conversation with diane, and she saw me talking to allie. I guess she overheard what we were saying, and she accused me of trying to use allie to get back into jack’s life.

Ashley: I can’t believe that. What a hypocrite after how she used allie.

Phyllis: I know. And you know what? It was a really light chat that allie and I were having. I mean, there was no ulterior motive.

Nikki: Sounds like diane was projecting.

Phyllis: Yeah.

Nikki: I mean, maybe she’s the one who wants to maintain a relationship with jack’s granddaughter. I’m sure she would love to have an ally in the house.

Ashley: Oh, I don’t like hearing that at all. Allie’s a lovely girl, but she’s nowhere near equipped to handle somebody as devious as diane. There’s just no way.

Phyllis: I know. When I was in california, I tried to warn allie about diane. She took it to heart. But I don’t know if she really understood it.

Ashley: Well, the subject has never come up between the two of us, but it’s going to have to now.

Ashland: Why don’t you just tell me why you’re here. I’m pretty sure it’s not because you’re concerned about my well-being.

Adam: Well, you’re right. I do have selfish reasons.

Ashland: Shocking. Can we please just cut to the chase?

Adam: Well, it’s not what you think. Okay? I just… I need someone to talk to. I need an ally, however tenuous. There’s not a whole lot of people in my life that I can be open about my anger towards my family. What about miss spectra? Why don’t you go cry on her shoulder?

Adam: It’s over.

Ashland: Really?

Adam: She couldn’t keep working at newman and stay in a relationship with me. It’s one or the other.

Ashland: And she chose to break up with you. That must have been a real blow to your ego.

Adam: Which puts us in the same position, with very little left to lose.

Ashland: Maybe. But one could also say that you’re in the same position as diane, needing to win points with victor in order to get back into his good graces. In fact, maybe that’s why you’re here right now. Maybe once you leave, you’ll go back to daddy dearest and… tell him about my whereabouts, my intentions.

Adam: Locke, I get why you would be skeptical, okay? Victoria lied to you more than once. Diane was someone you thought you could trust, and then they both turned on you. But I am done trying to impress my father. Anything that has to do with the newmans, I am out.

Ashland: That is exactly what victoria said right before she took $250 million of my money and transferred it into her own account. So, adam… I really don’t know what to make of you right now. I don’t know what to make of your proposal that we pair up.

Adam: Well, need I remind you that you were the one who made the case that we’re natural allies. And you’re right. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Right?

Ashland: Okay. How’s this? Since we’re so simpatico, why don’t you answer this question? If you were in my shoes, what would you do?

Adam: That’s easy. I would wreck everything. I would burn it all down to the ground. -Fixed. -That’s my son.

Nikki: I will keep you ladies posted on anything my investigation turns up.

Ashley: Okay, I’m gonna go talk to allie and see if diane’s trying to make any inroads with her.

Phyllis: Yeah, and I’m gonna stay out of diane’s path, because anything I do, she just twists around and she uses it against me, so…

Victoria: I don’t like the looks of this.

Nick: Agreed. It’s a little scary.

Victoria: Hello. Quite the trio.

Nikki: Hi.

Victoria: What’s going on?

Nikki: Oh, we’re just working on a project together.

Nick: Is it a charity thing?

Victoria: Before you answer yes, you might want to remember you’ve used that excuse before.

Nick: Yeah, last time you said you were doing something like that, you were trying to figure out a way to hide a body.

Phyllis: Oh. No body. That’s crazy. No. No bodies involved. No, we’re just working on a beautification project for the city. A way to make genoa city more beautiful and happier.

Nick: Okay.

Ashley: I have to go.

Phyllis: Duty calls.

Ashley: Bye.

Victoria: Bye.

Nikki: It’s really nothing to worry about, and I don’t care to discuss it any further.

Nick: Alright, well, whatever it is, I really hope it doesn’t get you into trouble.

Nikki: So how did it go with sally? Was she upset when you let her go?

Nick: There was a turn when we went to see her. She had a pretty persuasive defense about the work she’s done so far and an impressive argument about why she should stay in the job going forward.

Victoria: So we ended up changing our minds, and we are gonna give her a chance to prove herself.

Nikki: Really? What about her relationship with adam?

Nick: Adam actually did what he said he was gonna do. He ended things with her, so there’s no longer a conflict of interest.

Victoria: Sally’s put a lot of thought into where she wants to take newman media, and I think they’re surprisingly good ideas.

Nikki: Well, okay. I’ll trust your judgment. I want to hear more about her plans. Right now, though, I have a meeting. I’ve got to get back to the office, so I’ll catch you two later.

Nick: Love you.

Nikki: Love you.

Nick: Why do we really think the three of them were together?

Victoria: I have no idea what conspiracy they might be cooking up, but honestly, I’m happy to not be a part of it.

Nick: Yeah, well, we know mom can handle herself.

Victoria: Actually, I am more concerned about adam right now.

Nick: Why?

Victoria: Because if he really did break things off with sally, he’s gonna be even more emotionally unstable than he was before. It might push him to lash out in some way.

Ashland: Burn it all down — that’s very dramatic. But I’m gonna need you to be more specific. What exactly would you do?

Adam: Isn’t it obvious? You want to take revenge on my father, you have to hit him where it hurts — the business, his life’s work, his legacy. Okay, someone with your history and your reputation, you are prepared to pull this off perfectly. You have dismantled dozens of corporations, and you sent their founders spiraling into bankruptcy for things that were nothing compared to what victor put you through.

Ashland: That was business. This is personal. So I’m gonna go in a different direction.

Adam: Well, what do you have in mind?

Ashland: I’m gonna do you a favor. I’m gonna leave you with plausible deniability, and that way, later, when they ask you, you can honestly say you had no idea what was coming.

Adam: Well, I can be helpful with whatever it is that you’re planning. I can get inside my father’s head. I can anticipate his every move.

Ashland: Yeah, well, you don’t have to get too far inside victor’s head to understand that the company is not actually the most important thing to him. Just look at the extremes he’s gone to to protect his precious eldest daughter. If you want to hit him where it hurts…

Adam: You’re gonna go after victoria.

Ashland: I seem to have left you with the mistaken impression that we’re gonna be working together. We are not going to be working together. We’re on different tracks. So from here on in, I’m gonna go my own way.

Adam: You know, maybe we should talk this through. Like the —

Ashland: Yeah, you know what? The time for that has passed. I need to take a shower, get a hot meal. So, if you don’t mind…

Adam: [ Clears throat ] Your mission: Stand up to moderate

Noah: Hey, is dad around?

Sharon: I haven’t seen him today. Why, are you supposed to meet him here?

Noah: No, I just thought maybe I’d run into him.

Sharon: Why would you think that?

Noah: No reason. I just — I promised myself if I saw him today, I would talk to him about the whole new hope thing.

Sharon: Why don’t you just call or text him? Set up a time to meet instead of just leaving it to chance.

Noah: Yeah, I know, I know. I told allie that I’d talk to him about it today. I don’t know why I keep putting it off. I know he’s gonna be disappointed, but that’s no excuse.

Sharon: I understand it’s gonna to be hard, but I think you’ll feel relieved once you get it over with.

Noah: Yeah, I think you’re right. Thank you for the nudge. I think I needed that. Maybe that’s why I wound up here.

Sharon: Well, if it’s any consolation, I’m glad you’re here. It’s always nice to see your smiling face. But more importantly, the espresso machine is acting up again.

Noah: I’ll take care of it.

Sharon: Hey, you’re pretty cheerful for a guy who’s dreading having a difficult conversation.

Noah: That’s not the only thing I got going on.

Sharon: Really? What else is happening? Something good, I hope.

Noah: Something great.

Nick: I cannot wait to see how summer reacts when she finds out we gave sally a second chance.

Victoria: They’re still rivals after everything that’s happened?

Nick: Summer is never gonna forgive sally. I mean, she’s very much like phyllis when it comes to grudges. But you know what? I really think we made the right decision. Sally’s creative. She’s fiery. She really wants to prove herself on her own merits. That’s exactly the kind of person we need in that job. And I think she’s gonna give it her all.

Victoria: If only to show adam that he made a mistake in dumping her.

Nick: Yeah, still have some questions about that. Starting to feel like adam did that just so sally could keep her job.

Victoria: Are you saying that adam did something noble and unselfish?

Nick: Wouldn’t be the first time.

[ Knock on door ]

Adam: Victoria?

[ Sighs ]

[ Cellphone rings ]

Sally: We need to talk. I meant what I said. If you only broke up with me so I could keep my ceo title, I don’t want the job. I want the truth. We need to talk. I meant what I said. If you only broke up with me so I could keep my ceo title, I don’t want the job.

Victoria: I think we should have press conferences every day. I’ve forgotten how much fun they can be when they’re for a good reason.

Nikki: Oh, she’s addicted to the buzz.

Nick: Because they’re all about her.

Victoria: That is not true. There is a lot of excitement surrounding your return to the company.

Nikki: Yes, everybody loves a comeback.

Victoria: However, I did notice that someone was conspicuously silent on the matter. Adam.

Nick: He said he was gonna walk away.

Victoria: Well, I guess he meant at this time.

Nikki: Well, then what you said earlier is true. We will make sure that newman media is our first order of business.

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Adam: In answer to your first question, I am here.

Sally: Oh, my god, thank goodness. I thought something happened to you or that you were ghosting me.

Adam: Yeah, I’m al in one piece, unharmed. See?

Sally: So you were avoiding me.

Noah: Coffee’s on me, so order whatever you like.

Allie: Wow, that’s rather magnanimous of you for a guy who’s never paid for a cup of coffee here in his life because his mom owns the place.

Noah: Do you want one or not?

Allie: Iced with the works.

Noah: Okay. Whipped cream?

Allie: Sure. Why not? I feel like I’ve been good today.

Noah: Oh, you have been exactly what I needed for much longer than that. You stuck around to listen while I figured out the whole new hope thing.

Allie: And what to do with your life.

Noah: And most people would’ve told me to shut up and get on with it already.

Allie: Noah, hey, listen, it’s a big decision. You’re about to go seriously disappoint your father, and these things have to be handled very carefully.

Noah: Okay, you did not just say that.

Allie: I know it sounds harsh, but I promise you that I am helping.

Noah: How exactly are you helping?

Allie: By giving you reminders of what the worst will happen, it’ll build up your immunity to it.

Noah: Hmm. Okay. Well, maybe you can help me come up with some ways to not feel like a total jerk for leaving my dad’s charity.

Allie: I’m just being realistic. Look, your father is kind and understanding and laid back, but this isn’t gonna be an easy conversation.

Noah: Yeah. Hey, you know what I should do? I should just bring you along with me. That way, you can blurt out the bad news before I get a chance to say anything.

Allie: You mean like I just did with your sister and her wife?

Noah: Mm-hmm. It’s good to know you can keep a secret.

Allie: That’s not true. Most of the time, I am a vault. I don’t know what happened earlier.

Noah: Maybe I just make you nervous. Is it my devilish good looks, or perhaps it’s my unique brand of humor?

Allie: What you might have seen there was me being afraid that you were gonna make a joke and I would have to scrape up a pity laugh. I’m so sorry, though, for telling mariah and tessa.

Noah: It’s okay. I wanted their opinion almost as much as I wanted yours.

Allie: Don’t give me credit for that. You made this decision on your own.

Noah: You know, you really got to quit it with this excessive of modesty thing. Sometimes you just got to take the compliment. You know, live in the moment.

Phyllis: Hey, allie, noah. Look at you two. You’re so adorable together.

Ashley: And I’m telling you, your granddaughter was the absolute star at jabot today. She asked all the right questions. She knew all the right answers at the orientation.

Jack: You already have the reviews from chemists in the lab.

Ashley: They love her.

Jack: I knew they would.

Ashley: She’s familiar with the equipment already, jack. She’s making herself at home. She’s gonna run the joint pretty soon.

Jack: She is keemo’s daughter.

Ashley: She’s so smart. She’s so intuitive. Just like her father.

Jack: You know what, I missed such important time with him, but having her here, helping nurture her skills in the family business is a dream come true.

Ashley: Proud grandpa speaking here.

Jack: Yeah. Hey, make no mistake. No special favors. She sinks or swims 100% on her own.

Ashley: She’s made it clear she wants nothing special just because she’s an abbott.

Jack: I think this is gonna work out. I hope it does.

Ashley: You hope it does, huh? Of course it will. She’s happy. And how’s jack? Is jack happy?

Jack: No complaints.

Ashley: Well, I was thinking about asking about your love life.

Jack: No, don’t do that.

Ashley: Haven’t seen phyllis around lately.

Jack: Yeah, we’re both very busy people.

Ashley: Not that long ago, you were joined at the hip.

Jack: Well, that’s kind of an exaggeration, isn’t it?

Ashley: She did it, didn’t she?

Jack: What? What are you saying?

Ashley: Phyllis pulled a phyllis.

Jack: I don’t even know what that means.

Ashley: Jack, you know exactly what it means. What did she do? Listen, I’m done settling. Because this is my secret.

Adam: I never went to chicago.

Sally: Okay. Well… what did you do instead?

Adam: I went over this latest mind game that my father played, how I responded. I looked at every move and countermove that we’ve made since this whole thing started.

Sally: Okay, why didn’t you just tell me that or, better yet, use me as your sounding board?

Adam: Well, I just needed some time to be alone. I needed to understand why I allowed myself to be manipulated into thinking that he believed in me. I mean, he dangled the ceo position in front of me, and I — I fell for it. Twice.

Sally: Well, yeah, I mean, what your father did was inexcusable, but you shouldn’t beat yourself up for trusting him.

Adam: Well, trusting him was a huge mistake. And it’s just… it’s made me question everything that I’ve done since I came back to this town. Everything that I’ve done to infuriate him, undermine his trust, question my ability, my fitness for the job, which is why you were the last person that I need as a sounding board right now.

Sally: Why would you say that?

Adam: Because I realized you are the reason I am on the outside. You are standing between me and everything that I want.

Phyllis: Hey, your internship at jabot is starting soon, right?

Allie: Wow. You remembered.

Phyllis: Of course. Of course. It’s a really big deal. You know, those chemists, they — they churn out dozens of new product year after year. And when a bright new chemist enters, I mean, it’s a game changer.

Allie: You know, in chemistry, you call that a catalyst.

Phyllis: Ah.

Allie: I actually just had my orientation.

Phyllis: That’s great. Congratulations.

Allie: Thank you.

Phyllis: Did jack happen to tell you that I was once ceo at jabot?

Allie: I’m not really sure.

Phyllis: Yeah.

Allie: Yeah.

Phyllis: Well, I mean, if you ever want to talk, I can give you some insight as to how everything’s run there. In fact, why don’t I get some drinks and some pastries and we could talk now?

Jack: There are certain aspects of my life I am not comfortable sharing with my sister.

Ashley: Oh, shush, you can share everything with me. You know that by now. So what happened?

Jack: Phyllis lured me into a romantic assignation in her hotel, and then contrived to have diane see what I foolishly thought was an intimate moment between the two of us.

Ashley: Hmm. How childish of her.

Jack: Yeah, what I thought was a giant step in my relationship with phyllis, she thought of as an opportunity to send diane a message. And don’t let this fuel your ongoing animosity toward phyllis.

Ashley: Why couldn’t it be both?

Jack: Meaning what?

Ashley: Why couldn’t this be a big step in your relationship, but also, why can’t phyllis be making a point with diane?

Jack: Why, ashley, it almost sounds like you are defending phyllis’ actions.

Ashley: No, listen. Okay, phyllis is still not my favorite person, but this is diane jenkins we’re talking about, and we both know what she’s capable of. So if you look at the situation from that perspective, it makes sense that phyllis would want to set some boundaries proactively. And this is phyllis we’re talking about, so if you were expecting subtlety, well, shame on you.

Jack: You’re saying I should forgive phyllis. How did olay top expensive creams?

Phyllis: Well, I didn’t clear a room. You’re still here.

Diane: [ Scoffs ] We both know that noah and allie didn’t have a thing to go to. They’re trying to get away from you.

Phyllis: You don’t know what you’re talking about.

Diane: You know, maybe she’s onto you. Maybe she’s picked up on the fact that you were trying to make her your bestie so she’ll go back to jack and tell him how nice you are. And then he’ll change his mind, and then he’ll have you back in his life.

Phyllis: Okay, that’s not what I’m doing.

Diane: Yes, you are. I know it, allie knows it, and jack will know it, too. You’re using his granddaughter. It’s not a good look.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Before I make a final decision about the fate of sally spectra, I’d like to hear from the other valued members of my executive team.

Nikki: I agree with your previous assessment. Newman media needs a qualified leader, someone who is used to making deals and being in the front of the pack. It is impossible to ignore that sally has zero experience leading a media entity. There’s also the adam thing. We all know he’ll be pulling her strings, even though he said he’s walking away from the company and her.

Nikki: What? They’re breaking up? Well, that’s interesting timing.

Victoria: I’d love to hear your take.

Nikki: I wouldn’t be surprised if adam is just pretending to break up with her so that we will keep her on as ceo of the media division.

Victoria: Nick said the same thing. Well, you know my thinking on the matter, and since we’re all in agreement and we’ve had total transparency, I think we need to handle this as soon as possible.

Nikki: I have a meeting with the real-estate division, so I will leave the two of you to let sally know that her services are no longer required.

Sally: It’s natural for you to be curious and looking for someone to blame. Your sister put the entire company at risk, and then your father reinstated her so fast it broke speed records. And your brother, who turned his back on the entire business, handed a job in the c-suite. They’re the ones that deserve your anger. But blaming me makes absolutely no sense because I’ve been the one that stood by you and believed in you, and that’s never changed.

Adam: Sally, you were the one who sabotaged victor’s granddaughter. Okay, you’re universally despised by his inner circle, and you nearly sabotaged the newman media launch. Okay? I made you a fixture in my life, and you’ve just become a huge liability.

Sally: Victor may hate the things that I’ve done, but the fact that I’m still here proves that he’s come to look at me differently. He’s accepted me and maybe even respects me a little.

Adam: But it’s made him stop respecting me. This isn’t about your talent, it’s not about your intellect. It’s because I chose to keep you in my life. And it’s cost me everything that I have ever wanted, okay? You’re the reason that I’m even in this position.

Sally: Why are you being so cruel?

Adam: I’m not being cruel. I’m being honest.

Sally: Do you hear yourself right now? How crazy you sound?

Adam: The really crazy thing is making the choice to be with you at all.

Adam: I should have listened to my father. I should have taken him seriously when he said you were bad news. He had a lot more concerns than I let on.

Sally: Why would you hide that from me?

Adam: I wanted to spare your feelings. And in time, he stopped letting his displeasures be known, but he found another way to get his message through loud and clear.

Sally: How?

Adam: By refusing to consider me as someone who could be the rightful heir of newman enterprises. Okay, he dangled the prize right in front of me, first by making me ceo and then installing me in the job to lure victoria back. I mean, I deluded myself into thinking that I could use those opportunities to prove that I am worthy to him. But you see, his mind, it was already made up. “Stay with this woman, and I will never respect you.”

Sally: I am not buying any of this. You don’t give a damn what your father thinks about me.

Adam: Okay. Well, I care about the consequences.

Sally: Stop acting like this.

Adam: This is who I am. Don’t you know that? Okay, billy laid out my history in graphic detail, sally. You came into this thing with your eyes wide open.

Sally: You told me you loved me. And you showed me in ways that are impossible to fake.

Adam: I’m not saying that I didn’t love you. I’M…just saying I didn’t love you enough.

Sally: You told me that I was what you always needed. And you meant it. I know you did. So how can you just stand there and pretend like you don’t care?

[ Chuckles ] Wait a second, un– unless that is why you’re doing it. Because you told me that you were gonna find a solution that works for everyone. You — you were gonna do whatever it took to keep me in that chair.

Adam: No, I said a lot of things that I didn’t mean.

Sally: If this is some insane attempt to protect me against victor and victoria, if you are distancing yourself from me so I can keep my job, I don’t want it. I don’t want it. Not like this. You mean more to me. So you can just drop this cruel and, frankly, pointless act and tell me that you are just doing all of this to protect me… and I will forgive you.

Ashley: I am the last person that would defend what phyllis did to you. And I’m sure it was very hurtful when you realized that she had cheapened the time that you had together. How’s that for dancing around the issue?

Jack: Oh, you’re a regular ginger rogers.

Ashley: Oh, good, because the point is, when you got back from L.A., I saw a light in your eye that I hadn’t seen for a long time.

Jack: Yes, I learned I had a brilliant and beautiful granddaughter.

Ashley: Big part of it, but there was something else. Are you gonna make me say it? Do I really have to say it?

Jack: What?

Ashley: [ Sighs ] I got the feeling that you were falling back in love with phyllis. And it made you happy, so it made me happy.

Jack: You’re not wrong. That’s what made her betrayal all the more painful.

Ashley: I get it. I get it. And under any other circumstances, I would agree with you 1,000%. I really would. But I think that she deserves a second chance this time.

Jack: Why are you cutting her so much slack?

Ashley: Because when it comes to fighting diane jenkins, all bets are off, and you used to know that. So my question for you is, if things were so great with you and phyllis, why did she feel that she had the need to let diane know where things stood with you?

Jack: I can’t begin to fathom what makes phyllis do what phyllis —

Ashley: That’s not true. You know how she works. Right? She acts out when she feels wronged. So what set her off?

Jack: Can we just drop this, please?

Ashley: No, we can’T. You are clearly forging a path of forgiveness for diane, for all the horrendous and horrible things that she’s done. And yet you won’t forgive phyllis for doing something out of love. I agree it was twisted, but she did it to protect her relationship with you. I think that you have a lot more complicated feelings for diane than you’re willing to admit.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: I just said hi to allie. Of course, you, of all people, would think I had ulterior motives.

Diane: If I had dug myself into a hole as deep as you had, I’d be doing anything I could to get out of it.

Phyllis: Ugh, diane, you’re not gonna provoke me. I’m not playing your game.

Diane: Oh, funny how you’re accusing me of playing games when you were the one who toyed with jack in order to make a point to me.

Phyllis: Those are fighting words.

Diane: Oh. Are you accusing me of breaking our peace treaty?

Phyllis: No, I’m not because you would never do that out in public, in front of everyone.

Diane: It’s not the case at all. I’m quite happy with our detente. I wouldn’t do anything to wreck it.

Phyllis: You know, it takes a really paranoid mind to believe that a simple conversation between two women has some nefarious plot connected to it.

Diane: Phyllis, you were trying to wheedle your way back into jack’s life and getting into his good graces by using his grandchild. I actually feel sorry for you.

Phyllis: Alright.

Diane: No, no, I’m serious. It is such a shame that you have managed to screw up a romance that is so important to you. Meanwhile, I am rebuilding my relationship with kyle and enjoying time with my grandson.

Phyllis: Oh, spare me.

Diane: You know, I accept that some people don’t believe I’ve changed.

Phyllis: Because you haven’T.

Diane: So I’m going to focus on those whose opinions matter to me. The people who are giving me a chance to prove myself, both professionally and personally. I am so looking forward to working with my son and your daughter and jack, of course, now that we’re all part of the big jabot family.

Phyllis: What’s your point?

Diane: I guess it’s that my life is in such a good place right now that the last thing I want is for things to be adversarial between the two of us.

Phyllis: Okay, you know what? I’m not buying this miraculous transformation that you’re peddling all over town.

Diane: Phyllis, you need to accept that I’m a permanent fixture here.

Phyllis: Do I?

Diane: Yeah.

Phyllis: Oh. Well, things don’t last forever, diane.

Diane: Is that a threat?

Phyllis: An observation.

Nikki: Did she say permanent fixture?

Phyllis: Yes, she did.

Nikki: Oh, god, she’s delusional.

Diane: I feel so special. Bringing together two women who despise each other.

Nikki: I’m glad that diane is becoming more confident.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. She’ll let her guard down.

Nikki: Mm.

[Sfx: Stomach gurgling]

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Adam: Forgiveness? Right, that would mean that there’s a future out there for us and I want to smooth things over so we can start again.

Sally: Why can’t we?

Adam: Because that’s not who I am, sally.

Sally: You said —

Adam: I said a lot of things, and now I’m telling you that I don’t want you in my life anymore. Okay? This is my priority. It’s reclaiming my place. Regaining my father’s respect. Hell, regaining respect for myself.

Sally: You’re not making any sense.

Adam: I hate what being with you has cost me, but even more, I hate what it’s turned me into. I’m somebody who’s griping that his daddy mistreats him, who isn’t appreciated enough or given enough. I mean, how did I expect someone, much less my father, to take me seriously? Okay, I need to get away from you, and I need to get back to regaining credibility in his eyes. And I need to get back to being the kind of man that takes what he wants, like I always have.

Sally: So suddenly, you care more about kissing up to victor than you do about me and about us?

Adam: Look, whatever momentary glee I got from rubbing you in everyone’s face, whatever pleasure that I derived from being with you, it wasn’t worth it. We’re done. Was that clear enough for you?

Sally: Everyone really was right about you… from the beginning. You are a self-serving bastard.

Adam: Well, at least you got a ceo job out of the deal. If you can hang on to it.

Sally: Go to hell.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Um, it’s done. Okay, I’m out of here. I’m out of sally’s life. I’m out of your life. But one more thing — don’t be fooled by her tough exterior. She’s having a pretty tough time accepting things are over between us. The worst mistake she could have made is getting involved with me, so I would hate to see her lose her job on top of everything. She’s a hard worker. She has a lot of fresh ideas. She’s loyal and dedicated. She deserves to be here. Give her a chance and you’ll see that.

Sally: [ Sighs ]

[ Knock on door ]

[ Exhales sharply ] Come in.

Nick: Hi, sally.

Sally: Hi.

Victoria: I hope you have a few minutes.

Sally: Yes, whatever you need. Make yourselves comfortable. Can I get you guys a drink?

Nick: Uh, no, we’re okay. Thank you.

Sally: Okay. Glad to hear it. Why waste time on niceties when I have to go wallow in the pity of my freshly broken heart?

[ Sighs ] Okay, look, I’ve done this so many times. I know it word for word. This is the part where you tell me it’s just not working, right? Because forget about what actually is working or what I can actually accomplish here, or what I am currently accomplishing. Because all you care about is playing the game, right?

Allie: So I thought of something that you are actually good at.

Noah: I’m dying to hear it.

Allie: You got me out of that conversation with phyllis. That is a very, very special skill.

Noah: Yeah. What was that all about?

Allie: She’s trying to use me, I think, as a way to get more information about the abbotts, about jack specifically. I don’t know. I think there’s some kind of drama going on between them.

Noah: With phyllis, it’s almost guaranteed.

Jack: Whatever is going on between phyllis and me has nothing to do with diane.

Ashley: You cannot possibly be that dumb. You don’t really believe that, do you? Because I don’t even spend that much time with you, and I can see that you’ve got complicated feelings for diane.

Jack: Ash —

Ashley: You do. Maybe compassion because of kyle and harrison.

Jack: I am just trying to be fair.

Ashley: But if I notice it, can you imagine how it must make phyllis feel to see you bending over backwards, being kind to somebody that she despises, that has done really horrible things to her?

Jack: I don’t know.

Ashley: It’s making her crazy because, frankly, it’s making me crazy. And I cannot imagine the impulses that phyllis is having to stifle every single day of her life.

Jack: Everything I am doing, I am doing for kyle. He is invested in trying to reestablish a relationship with his mother. And diane deserves to know her son, given how she has handled everything that’s been thrown at her since she came back to town.

Ashley: Diane is not your friend. Don’t buy her act, jack. Nothing good can come of it.

Jack: Diane is not the issue. My issue with phyllis is her penchant for self-sabotage, her inability to embrace what is good. I have given her many chances in the past. I cannot go through this again. We are better off as friends. Let’s drop this, please, now. Oh, you’ve got to have the last word. Go ahead.

Ashley: Things are never as simple as they seem with diane.

Jack: I’m going to go check on adam, see what’s going on there.

Ashley: Are you kidding me? Do you have to befriend every single pariah in town? You are way too forgiving. Except when it comes to phyllis.

Jack: Buy you a cup of coffee?

Adam: [ Sighs ] I’m not in the mood for company.

Jack: Which is exactly why I’m joining you. I know that look. I perfected that look, and I know what it means.

From prom dresses

Jack: I saw the press conference. Victoria reinstated as ceo.

Adam: Yeah. Whole family’s up there. Dad’s dream come true.

Jack: Your absence was conspicuous.

Adam: Well, hey, that’s my middle name, jack.

Jack: The press was told you were moving on to pursue other ventures. I hope that’s the case.

Adam: Let’s just say I — I get it now. I mean, all those years that you were at war with my father, I mean, he is relentless. You think he’s doing one thing, and in reality, he’s doing something completely different. And by the time you catch up, he’s just changed the rules.

Jack: Congratulations. You caught on.

Adam: Yeah. Well, you’d think he’d learn there’s only so much you can push a man past his limits before he pushes back.

Jack: Adam, this isn’t the first time your father has done something like this to you.

Adam: No. But this time is different. This time there is no going back.

Sally: You guys have been so busy swapping out nameplates in the executive suite that I’m sure you’re unaware of what I’ve actually accomplished here. But I believe that I’ve earned the right to be judged based on my own achievements, regardless of my personal relationship with adam.

Victoria: I see.

Sally: What you haven’t seen is that I have been working night and day studying, researching, and learning the history of this company and reimagining its future. I have established a clear mission statement and I am building connections that matter, and it is having an impact. Not that any of you newmans are paying attention. We are bringing in fresh, new perspectives. We are becoming more inclusive. Yes, sure, content is still king because we still have to feed the masses, but we are also prioritizing connectivity. The world is changing, and we need to be the ones that people turn to for services to help them engage and stay informed and connect with the world. Not that I have been able to apply that amount of energy to my personal life.

[ Sighs ] But I just want you guys to know that this has been one of the greatest opportunities of my life, and I’m really gonna miss the view from this office. Among other things. So honestly, if you could just get this over with, I will pack up my things and get out of your hair and we can all just go back to our day.

Nick: Can I talk to you outside for a minute?

[ Hits desk ]

Diane: Some women feel threatened when they hear people talking about them, but I kind of enjoy being the center of attention.

Nikki: Yes, we’re acutely aware of that.

Ashley: So is this a private party or can anybody join?

Diane: Hello, ashley.

Phyllis: We’re just talking about how diane is strolling around town without a care in the world.

Nikki: Savoring all those wonderful memories.

Phyllis: Gainfully employed, pretending to be a doting grandmother.

Diane: Dee dee. That’s harrison’s pet name for me.

Ashley: Until he grows up and finds out who you really are and then becomes the object of your machinations, just like kyle.

Nikki: Yes, then he’ll have all kinds of choice words for you.

Phyllis: It’s only a matter of time, diane.

Diane: Wow, you ladies are a hoot. What a fun way to pass the afternoon, but, oh, look at the time. I have a job to return to and a life. So I will give your love to summer and kyle and jack.

Nikki: Something has to be done about that woman.

Phyllis: I mean, at least the three of us can agree on that, right?

Ashley: Oh, yes, we can. Better skin from your body wash?

Noah: Best description of phyllis…

[ Sighs ] Hmm. Force of nature? Like an earthquake or forest fire. But she doesn’t understand boundaries, so if she crosses one, you got to say something.

Allie: Okay. Got it.

Noah: On the other hand, I think she has a good heart and she means well and she would move mountains for the ones she loves, like summer.

Allie: She seems so different from summer.

Noah: That’s ’cause summer takes after my dad. He is the steady presence in the middle of the hurricane. He balances everything out.

Allie: Then maybe it’s time for you to have that honest conversation with him. Hey, tell him how you feel about stepping away from new hope. Hey. It’s not gonna be easy. And I know you’re gonna feel like you’re letting him down. But remember, nick is a good dad and good dads want more than anything for their kids to be happy. Trust me, I know from experience.

Noah: Thank you, allie, for saying that, for a great day at the pool. For everything.

Phyllis: Will someone please explain to me why this woman gets a do-over? I don’t get it.

Ashley: I am not giving her a free pass.

Phyllis: But everybody in town seems to be doing that. I mean, not just kyle, but michael, too.

Ashley: And jack.

Nikki: Yeah, even jack.

Phyllis: Jack. Yes, he is. You know, jack just said that he would go along with whatever kyle decided.

Ashley: Diane is capitalizing on that. She’s playing it perfectly.

Phyllis: Yeah, and she’s using kyle again to get to jack, just like she did when he was little.

Nikki: Because this is what she does.

Ashley: She framed you for arson.

Phyllis: Well, she slept with your fiancé, right? And she blackmailed you.

Nikki: She left me to be blamed for her murder. I win. Now, something has to be done about her.

Ashley: You know what? It would be a public service.

Phyllis: Could we do something? I mean, the three of us?

Nikki: Why not?

Phyllis: Well, I mean, we can’t stand to be in the same room with each other.

Nikki: Ah, but the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Ashley: Right. I mean, at least temporarily.

Nikki: If we all pooled our talents…

Ashley: Maybe we can get diane out of our lives.

Phyllis: Yeah. Forever this time.

Nick: You got to admit, what sally said in there was extremely impressive.

Victoria: She was scrambling to keep her job.

Nick: When people’s backs are against the wall, you’ll find out what means most of them, what they’re made of, and how far they’re willing to go to keep what’s important. That job means everything to her.

Victoria: But does she have what it takes?

Nick: I think she does. She has a clear plan, one she’s ready to start implementing. No matter how you feel about her, she’s got good ideas, and her vision for newman media is exactly what we’re looking for. You do realize that, right?

Sally: [ Exhales sharply ]

[ Exhales sharply ]

Jack: This is what I’m worried about, adam. You’re hurt and you want to lash out. Do not give over to your worst impulses. That is exactly what victor is expecting of you.

Adam: Oh, I’m well aware of that. It would be pointless for me to go after my father. I am the last person that he needs to worry about.

Recap written by Christine

As Sally packed up her office, she paused to look at a picture of her and Adam, posing cheek to cheek. Victoria and Nick returned, and Sally said they could look through her box and make sure she wasn’t stealing. Victoria and Nick revealed that they’d decided to keep Sally on, at least short term. Sally asked what the catch was. Nick said that some of the ideas Sally mentioned in her outpouring had potential. Victoria said Sally would be interim CEO for 90 days and if she met or exceeded expectations, she could stay. Victoria said that Newman Media was going to play an integral role in moving the entire company forward and if Sally couldn’t do that, they’d have no choice but to replace her. Sally said she was up for the job. Nick knew they were asking a lot of Sally, but Adam clearly had a lot of faith in her. He was sure Sally had assumed she’d have Adam’s guidance. Sally said she could do it without him. Victoria impressed upon Sally the importance of this role – millions of dollars, and people’s livelihoods and reputations were on the line, so Sally shouldn’t take the job if she wasn’t sure she was up for it. Victoria said she’d give Sally a robust severance package and a good recommendation if she left. Sally looked down at the picture of her and Adam, and then she said she was the right person to run the company.

Victoria thought Sally should hire an experienced COO who had years of media experience and knew all the players. Nick had some ideas. Sally said she already hired Chloe Mitchell – while Chloe had mostly worked in fashion, they worked really well together, and she was a smart creative thinker, which couldn’t be taught. Sally thought Chloe could learn the rest, like she did. She noted that Adam had no media experience when Victor put him in charge, but he was very successful. Victoria said this would be Sally’s first test, and she and Chloe could rise and fall together.

Nick and Victoria told Sally that they were there for her if she needed help or someone to bounce ideas off of. Sally asked if this was a diplomatic way of saying they wanted to keep tabs on her. They said they wanted to take an active role in supporting her. Sally seemed wary. Victoria was sure Adam warned Sally not to trust them. She hoped Sally saw that you couldn’t take everything Adam said at face value. Sally recalled Adam saying she’d regret getting involved with him, and that was true. Victoria said Sally was better off without Adam, because he turned on everyone eventually. Victoria also noted that Sally wouldn’t have been allowed to keep this job if she and Adam were still together. Sally said her job was a silver lining, and she intended to make the most of it. Victoria and Nick left.

Noah and Allie kissed at the Abbott mansion. They flew apart when they heard the door open. Jack apologized for interrupting. Allie thought she and Noah should apologize. Allie mentioned that they went to the rooftop pool at the GCAC, and Jack told her that she and her friends were welcome to use the pool here at the house. Jack left. Allie was embarrassed, and Noah told her that he bet Jack forgot all about it. Noah suggested he and Allie go back to Dive Bar tonight. She thought he was just trying to stall talking to his dad. She said she had her internship tomorrow, and she didn’t think Jack would approve of her going out partying the night before work. Noah wondered if Allie was trying to let him down easy because she just wanted to be friends. Allie said she just felt blown away by how fast her life was changing, but she did want to go to Dive Bar tonight. She said when they met up, he could tell her how things went with his dad. As Noah was leaving, Allie pulled him into another kiss.

After Noah left, Jack reappeared. Allie was still embarrassed, and Jack said there was no reason to be. He liked the idea of her spending time with Noah. He felt she deserved to live her life and have a good time. Allie bashfully said Noah invited her back to the pool at night. Jack sensed Allie didn’t want to go. Allie wanted to go, but things were going so well that she felt overwhelmed at times. Jack was sure Noah would understand if Allie wanted to slow things down. Allie replied that Noah said the same thing, and he was kind and sweet and thoughtful toward her. She really liked Noah, and she wasn’t sure why she was acting like a confused teen. Jack said love did that to you, and he wasn’t saying she was in love Noah, though it was great if she was. He just wanted her to be happy. She thanked him. When Allie was alone, she flashed back to the kiss.

Noah went to Crimson Lights and asked his mom if his dad was around. He wasn’t. Noah said he figured that if he ran into Nick, he’d have a talk with him about New Hope. Sharon got Noah to fix the espresso machine, and she noticed he seemed cheerful. He said something great happened.

Nikki, Phyllis and Ashley met at Society to talk about Diane. Phyllis called this the Disappear Diane Club, or the Jettison Jenkins Foundation. Nikki understood Phyllis’ need to inject humor into this, but the reality was that this situation was dire – they had to get Diane out of here before she hurt the people they loved. Ashley and Nikki agreed that Kyle was the only one who had influence over Diane. Ashley asked if Phyllis could get Summer to open Kyle’s eyes. Phyllis already tried that a million times. She said she wasn’t the best person to talk to Kyle and Summer about Diane, because she tended to get emotional, and Kyle and Summer thought she’d lost perspective. Ashley asked if that was because of what happened between Jack and Phyllis. Nikki asked what happened. Phyllis asked what Ashley knew. Ashley got the jist of it from Jack, and she told him she didn’t blame Phyllis.

Again, Nikki asked what happened. Phyllis said she was trying to send a message to Diane, and Jack felt used. Phyllis felt bad. Nikki agreed with Ashley. She said the impulse to fend off Diane was sometimes overwhelming, because she was a predator. Phyllis said that when she tried to talk to Summer and Kyle about Diane, she got emotional, and they saw it like she was trying to justify her behavior. Nikki wasn’t successful at swaying Summer either. She wondered if she and Ashley could get through to Jack. Phyllis was sure that Jack would listen to them and that Kyle would listen to Jack. Ashley wasn’t convinced Jack would be receptive to what they had to say.

Phyllis and Nikki were alarmed when Ashley said that Jack had complicated feelings for Diane. Ashley clarified that it was nothing romantic. Nikki said Jack would have more sense than that. Ashley said that she got the sense Jack thought Diane deserved another chance. That prompted Nikki to respond with disapproving groans, and Phyllis had an outburst. Phyllis insisted that Nikki and Ashley talk to Jack and convince him before Diane ruined Jack and Summer. Ashley said that Phyllis couldn’t be part of this team if she was going to go off the deep end and do something stupid. Phyllis said she was focused on bringing this woman down. Ashley said they couldn’t be irrational. Nikki said they all had to calm down and keep their eyes on the prize – getting rid of Diane.

Ashley said they had to accept that Jack, Kyle and Summer didn’t want to hear anything negative about Diane. She felt that the key would be providing them with evidence about Diane, not suspicions. Phyllis asked Nikki how the investigation into Diane’s past in LA. Nikki’s investigators hadn’t found anything yet, but she wasn’t giving up. Ashley didn’t believe Diane lived a clean life as Taylor Jenkins – there had to be a witness or victim to one of her scams. Phyllis said Allie was the only one Diane targeted from LA. Phyllis said that the other day, Diane saw her talking to Allie and accused her of trying to use Allie to get back into Jack’s life. Ashley called Diane a hypocrite. Phyllis said she’d only been having a light chat with Allie, with no ulterior motive. Nikki thought it sounded like Diane was projecting. “Maybe she’s the one who wants to maintain a relationship with Jack’s granddaughter. I’m sure she would love to have an Allie in the house,” Nikki said. Ashley didn’t like the sound of that, because the lovely Allie was not equipped to handle someone as devious as Diane. Phyllis said when they were in California, she tried to warn Allie about Diane. Allie took it to heart, but Phyllis wasn’t sure Allie really understood. Ashley decided she needed to talk to Allie.

Nikki said she’d keep the ladies posted on her investigation. Ashley said she’d talk to Allie. Phyllis said she’d steer clear of Diane, because Diane kept twisting everything Phyllis did and using it against her. Nick and Victoria arrived, and they were both wary when they saw their mother spending time with Ashley and Phyllis.

Victoria and Nick and asked what was going on. Nikki said she, Phyllis and Ashley were just working on a project. Nick asked if it was a charity thing, and Victoria reminded Nikki that she’d already used that excuse in the past. Nick added that the last time they’d said something like that, they were trying to hide a body. Phyllis said they were just working on a beautification project for the city. Ashley and Phyllis exited. Nick hoped that whatever Nikki was doing didn’t get her in trouble. Nikki shifted gears and asked how things went with firing Sally. They brought her up to speed on the decision to let Sally stay. Nikki left for the office. Nick wondered what Nikki, Phyllis and Ashley were really up to. Victoria had no idea, and she was just glad she wasn’t involved. Victoria was more concerned about Adam, because if he really broke things off with Sally, he was going to be even more emotionally unstable, and he might lash out.

Nick couldn’t wait to see how Summer reacted to them giving Sally a second chance. Victoria didn’t realize they were still rivals. Nick said Summer would never forgive Sally. He thought Summer was a lot like Phyllis when it came to holding grudges. He felt Sally was creative and fiery, and that was the kind of person they needed in the job. He was starting to think Adam broke up with Sally so she could keep the job. Victoria asked if Adam was doing something noble. Nick said it wouldn’t be the first time.

Adam went to the GCAC looking for Ashland. Adam’s knocking went unanswered. He talked a housekeeper to let him into the room by explaining that Ashland had a heart condition. They found the room trashed. The housekeeper began to clean, and she said Ashland must be a troublemaker. Ashland came home and demanded to know why they were in his suite. Adam said he was worried after Ashland dropped out of contact. Referencing the state of the room, Adam asked if Ashland had been robbed and if they should call the police.

Ashland sent the housekeeper away with a tip and a promise to clean things up himself. Adam asked if Ashland went on a bender. Ashland said he’d been in jail, not that it was any of Adam’s business. Adam realized that was why Ashland stopped answering his calls. He assumed Ashland went to jail for violating the restraining order and seeing Harrison. Ashland explained that he’d mistakenly thought he had an ally in Diane. Adam said he could’ve warned Ashland that everyone who trusted Diane lived to regret it. Ashland said that Diane took Harrison to the park, let him spend time with his son, then the cops came. Adam said Diane decided to use Ashland to score points with the Newmans. Ashland was pretty sure Victor arranged the whole thing. Adam thought that sounded like his dad. He asked what Ashland was going to do about it.

Adam helped Ashland set a couch upright and put the cushions in place. Ashland wanted Adam to leave. Adam said that his family was going to leak Ashland’s arrest to the press. Ashland found it hard to believe that Adam cared about him. Adam said it could’ve just as easily been him in the family’s crosshairs. In fact, Adam figured the family would probably target him when they were finished destroying Ashland. Adam said his dad only used him, and his brother and sister made him think he could earn their loyalty and trust, but it wasn’t true.

Ashland knew Adam wasn’t concerned for his well being. He wondered why Adam really came. Adam said he needed an ally, however tenuous. There weren’t a lot of people he could be open with about his anger toward his family. Ashland told Adam to go cry on Sally’s shoulder. Adam said that their relationship was over, because Sally couldn’t stay in a relationship with him and keep her job at Newman Media. Ashland mistakenly thought Sally broke up with Adam to keep her job, and Adam didn’t correct him. Adam said he and Ashland were in the same position, with little left to lose. Ashland said that people could say Adam was in the same position as Diane – hoping to score points with Victor to get back into his good graces. Adam understood why Ashland would be skeptical after Victoria and Diane turned on him, but he said he was done with the Newmans. Ashland recalled Victoria saying that exact same thing, right before she took 250 million dollars from him. Adam pointed out that Ashland was the one who said they’d be natural allies. Adam repeated the old saying that the enemy of his enemy was his friend. Ashland asked what Adam would do in his shoes. “That’s easy. I would wreck everything. I would burn it all down,” Adam replied.

Ashland wanted exact details on what Adam would do. Adam thought it was obvious: to really hit Victor where it hurt you had to go after the company – his life’s work. Adam noted that Ashland had experience dismantled companies and sending their founders spiraling into bankruptcy for things that were nothing compared to what Victor put him through. Since this was a personal matter, Ashland planned to go in a different direction. Adam asked what Ashland was going to do. Ashland was going to do Adam a favor and give him plausible deniability, so when his family later asked if he knew what was going to happen, he honestly could say no. adam said he could help by getting into Victor’s head. Ashland said that you didn’t have to get too far inside Victor’s head to see that the company was not the most important thing to him. He stated that Victor had gone to extremes to protect his precious oldest daughter. Adam assumed realized Ashland was going after Victoria. Ashland said he and Adam weren’t going to be working together. Adam suggested they should talk this through. Ashland wasn’t interested. He showed Adam the door.

After Adam found out Ashland was going target Victoria, he went to her office, but she wasn’t there. He thought about calling her, but he didn’t do it. Meanwhile, Sally called him and left a message saying that if he only broke up with her so she could keep the job, she didn’t want the job. Adam listened to his voicemail and heard the message.

Recap written by Christine

Victoria, Nick and Nikki were at the Newman office talking about the successful press conference. They touched on Adam’s absence, and Victoria said she guessed he was serious about walking away from the company. They talked about Newman Media. Nick thought, as Victoria previously said, that the company needed strong leadership. He said Sally didn’t have experience, and Adam would be pulling her strings, even though he said they broke up. Nikki didn’t hear about the breakup. She theorized that Adam just pretended to break up with Sally so they’d keep her on as CEO of the division. Victoria wanted to handle this as soon as possible. Nikki had a meeting to get to, so she left with the expectation that Nick and Victoria would be firing Sally.

Sally was relieved when Adam walked into her office. She tried to hug him, but he pushed her away. He revealed that he never went to Chicago. Instead he’d spent time thinking about the latest mind game Victor pulled on him, and he went over every move and counter-move they’d made. Sally asked why Adam didn’t tell her that or use her as a sounding board. He said he needed to be alone and he needed time to understand why he allowed himself to be manipulated into believing Victor believed in him. “He dangled the CEO position in front of me. I fell for it. Twice,” Adam said. Sally didn’t think Adam should beat himself up for trusting Victor. Adam was questioning everything he’d done since he came back to this town – everything he’d done to infuriate Victor, undermine his trust and question Adam’s fitness for the job. “I realized you are the reason I am on the outside. You are standing between me and everything that I want,” Adam stated.

Sally contended that Adam should blame his family, not her. She said she stood by him and believed in him. He said she sabotaged Victor’s granddaughter, she was despised by Victor’s inner circle, and she nearly sabotaged the Newman Media launch. She argued that Victor had accepted her and maybe even respected her a little – if he didn’t, she wouldn’t still have a job here. Adam said this made Victor stop respecting him. Adam didn’t deny Sally’s talent, but he said that having her as a fixture in his life cost him everything. She was near tears and asked why he was being so cruel. He said he was being honest. She thought he sounded crazy. He countered that the crazy thing was that he’d ever made the choice to be with her at all.

Adam sighed that he should’ve listened to his father and taken him seriously when he said Sally was bad news. Adam stated that Victor had a lot more concerns than Adam had let on. Sally asked why Adam hid this from her. He said he did it to spare her feelings. Adam said in time, Victor stopped raising objections, but he’d found another way to make his feelings known – by refusing to consider Adam a potential rightful heir of Newman Enterprises. Adam said he’d deluded himself into thinking he could prove himself worthy to Victor, but Victor’s mind was already made up, because Adam was with Sally. Sally didn’t buy any of this. “You don’t give a damn what your father thinks about me,” she argued. He told her that he cared about the consequences. He said this was who he was. He knew Sally had come into this with her eyes wide open, since she read Billy’s expose on Adam.

Sally said Adam told her he loved her and showed his love in ways that were impossible to fake. “I’m not saying that I didn’t love you. I’m just saying that I didn’t love you enough,” he replied. Wiping a tear, Sally reminded Adam he’d told her she was what he always needed, and she knew he was telling the truth. She asked how he could pretend he didn’t care. Sally theorized that Adam was embarking on an insane attempt to protect her from Victor and Victoria. “If you are distancing yourself from me so I can keep my job, I don’t want it. I don’t want it, not like this. You mean more to me,” she said. She told him that he could drop the act, and she’d forgive him.

Adam wasn’t interested in forgiveness, because there was no future for him and Sally. He said he didn’t want her in his life anymore. His priority was to regain his father’s respect and regaining respect for himself. He said he hated what his relationship with her cost him, and more than that, he hated what it turned him into. He said he’d become someone who griped that his daddy mistreated him. He wondered how he expected anyone to take him seriously like that. He said he had to get away from her and get back to being the kind of man who took what he wanted. He said whatever momentary pleasure he got from rubbing her in everyone’s face and whatever glee he derived from being with her, it wasn’t worth it. She said everyone was right about him – he was a self-serving bastard. He said she got a CEO job out of the deal, if she could hang onto it. She told him to go to hell. Adam left, and in the hallway, he looked upset. Victoria and Nick ran into Adam in the hallway. He said Sally was having a hard time accepting that they were through, and he’d hate to see her lose her job on top of everything. He said she was a loyal hard worker, and they should give her a chance.

Sally dried her tears when she heard the knock on the door. She showed Nick and Victoria in. she said she’d heard this so many times – this was the part where they told her it wasn’t working. She thought they were going to cast aside her potential and what she was currently accomplishing, because they just wanted to play the game. She thought they were so busy swapping out nameplates in the executive suite that they were unaware of what she’d accomplished here. She felt she’d earned the right to be judged on her own achievements regardless of her relationship with Adam. She said she’d worked night and day studying the history of the company and reimagining its future. She’d established a clear mission statement and she was building contacts that mattered, and it was having an impact, not that any of the Newmans were paying attention. She continued her passionate speech about the changes she’d made and her future ideas for the company. While fighting tears and referencing her personal life, she said this had this had been one of the greatest opportunities of her life, and she’d really miss the office, among other things. She asked them to get this over with so she could pack up her things and get out of their hair. Nick pulled Victoria aside for a private talk in the hallway.

Nick was impressed with Sally. Victoria said Sally was scrambling to keep her job. Nick thought that you could see what a person was really made of when their back was against the wall. He said the job meant everything to Sally. He also felt that Sally had good ideas and her vision was what they were looking for. Back inside he office, Sally picked up her nameplate and cried.

Jack and Ashley were at Society. She said his granddaughter was a star in the lab. A proud Jack said Allie was Keemo’s daughter. Ashley said Allie was smart and intuitive like her father. Jack missed out with Keemo, and having Allie here was a dream come true. Jack said no special favors for Allie though. Ashley said Allie had made it clear that she didn’t want special treatment because she was an Abbott. Ashley wanted to know why Jack and Phyllis weren’t joined at the hip anymore. She was convinced Phyllis did something.

Jack said Phyllis lured him into a romantic assignation at her hotel, then she contrived to have Diane see what Jack foolishly thought was an intimate moment. Jack said what he thought was a giant step in his relationship with Phyllis, she saw as an opportunity to send Diane a message. He didn’t want Ashley to let this fuel her animosity toward Phyllis. Ashley asked why Phyllis couldn’t have seen that event as a giant step in the relationship and an opportunity to send Diane a message. Phyllis was not Ashley’s favorite person, but they all knew what Diane was capable of, so it made sense that Phyllis would want to set some boundaries.

Jack thought Ashley was telling him to forgive Phyllis. Ashley said she was the last person who’d defend what Phyllis did to him. However, when Jack got back from LA, she saw a light in his eye that she hadn’t seen in a long time. He said it was because he found out about Allie. She was sure that was part of it, but she also got the feeling that he’d been falling back in love with Phyllis while they were in LA. He said Ashley was right, and that made Phyllis’ betrayal more painful. Ashley understood that, and in any other circumstance, she’d agree, but she thought Phyllis deserved another chance. She said that when it came to fighting Diane, all bets were off, and she reminded him that he used to know that.

If things were so great with you and Phyllis why did she feel that she had the need to let Diane know where things stood with you?,” Ashley asked. Jack said he couldn’t fathom why Phyllis did the things she did, but Ashley said that wasn’t true. She said he knew Phyllis acted out when she felt wronged. He wanted to drop this, and she said no. ashley said Jack was clearly on the road to forgiving Diane, after all the horrible things she’d done, yet he wouldn’t forgive Phyllis. Ashley conceded that Phyllis did something twisted, but she said Phyllis did it to protect her relationship with Jack. Ashley thought Jack’s feelings for Diane were a lot more complicated than he was letting on.

Jack contended that what was going on between him and Phyllis had nothing to do with Diane. “You cannot possibly be that dumb,” Ashley replied. She didn’t spend much time with Jack, but she could see he had complicated feelings for Diane. She suggested it was compassion because of Kyle and Harrison. Jack said he was just trying to be fair. Ashley told Jack to imagine how Phyllis felt seeing Jack bend over backward for someone she despised and did horrible things to her. Jack said he was doing this for Kyle. He felt that Diane deserved to know her son, given how she handled everything that had been thrown at her since she returned. Ashley was adamant that Diane was not Jack’s friend. Jack said that Phyllis had a penchant for self-sabotage. He’d given Phyllis many chances, and he couldn’t go through this again. He insisted that Ashley drop this. He saw that she needed the last word, so he told her to go ahead. She said that things with Diane were never as simple as they seemed. He saw a dejected Adam walk in and decided to go check on him. Ashley grumbled about Jack’s need to befriend every pariah in town. She said he was way too forgiving, except when it came to Phyllis.

Ashley left. Jack joined Adam, who said he wasn’t in the mood for company. Jack said that was why he was staying. He knew that look on Adam’s face, and he’d been there himself. Jack saw the press conference. He hoped that Victoria was right about Adam moving on to other ventures. Adam said he understood Jack’s feud with Victor – Victor was relentless. “You think he’s doing one thing and in reality he’s doing something completely different. By the time you catch up, he’s just changed the rules,” Adam said. Jack congratulated Adam for catching on. Adam said you’d think Victor would learn there was only so far you could push a man before he pushed back. Jack noted that this wasn’t the first time Victor did something like this. Adam said it was different this time, and there was no going back. Jack didn’t want Adam to give in to his worst impulses, like Victor would expect him to. Ashland was shown stewing in his jail cell, while Adam’s voice over said it would be pointless for him to go after his father. “I am the last person that he needs to worry about,” Adam said.

Allie and Noah were at Crimson Lights. He said she’d been exactly what she needed, and she stuck around and listened while he figured out the New Hope thing. He was sure most people would’ve told him to shut up. Allie said Noah was about to seriously disappoint his father, and those things had to be handled carefully. He was bothered that she said that, but she felt she was helping him. She said that by pointing out the worst thing that could happen, it would build his immunity to it. She said his father was kind, understanding and laid back, but this wouldn’t be an easy conversation. He joked that he could bring her along and let her blurt out the secret. She said most of the time she was a vault. She wasn’t sure why she blurted out the secret to his sister and her wife earlier. He suggested that he made her nervous, due to his devilish good looks or his unique humor. She joked that she was afraid he’d make a joke, and she’d have to laugh in pity.

Allie was sorry for telling Mariah and Tessa. He said it was fine, since he wanted Mariah and Tessa’s opinion almost as much as he wanted hers. She didn’t think she should get credit for that, since he made the decision on his own. He told her to take the compliment and live in the moment. Phyllis approached and told Allie and Noah how cute they were. Phyllis then gushed over Allie getting a job at Jabot. Phyllis said she was once CEO of Jabot, and she could give Allie some insight into how things run over there. Phyllis wanted to chat right now, but Noah made up a flimsy excuse about he and Allie having a “thing” they had to get to. Allie went with it and they walked off. Diane walked up and commented that Phyllis could really clear a room.

We both know that Noah and Allie didn’t have a thing to go to. They’re trying to get away from you,” Diane said. She theorized that Allie picked up on Phyllis’s plan to befriend her in hopes that Allie would talk her up to Jack. Phyllis denied doing that. Diane said it wasn’t a good look for Phyllis to use Jack’s granddaughter. Phyllis said she just said hi to Allie. Diane said Phyllis dug a hole for herself. Phyllis refused to play Diane’s game. Diane said Phyllis toyed with Jack to make a point to Diane. Phyllis considered those fighting words. Diane asked if Phyllis was accusing her of breaking their peace treaty. Phyllis sarcastically said Diane would never do that. Phyllis thought Diane was being paranoid to accuse her of plotting by talking to Allie. Diane said it was a shame Phyllis screwed up the relationship with Jack that was so important to her. Diane crowed about getting closer to Kyle and Harrison. She mentioned her job and said she, Kyle, Jack and Summer were part of the big Jabot family.

Diane said her life was in such a good place that she didn’t want things to be adversarial with her and Phyllis. Diane said that Phyllis needed to accept that she was a permanent fixture. Phyllis countered that things didn’t last forever. Nikki walked up and called Diane delusional for thinking she was a permanent fixture. Diane was pleased she could bring together two women who despised each other. Nikki and Phyllis agreed that Diane’s confidence was going to cause her to let her guard down. Diane said she enjoyed being the center of attention.

Ashley walked up and joined Phyllis and Nikki in sniping about Diane. Phyllis said Diane pretended to be a doting grandmother. Diane smiled and said Harrison called her Dee Dee. Ashley predicted that when Harrison grew up and learned who Diane really was, he’d become the object of her machinations, just like Kyle. All three were convinced Diane would ruin her relationship with Harrison. Diane had to go, but she said she’d give their love to Kyle, Summer and Jack. After Diane left, the three remaining ladies agreed that something needed to be done about Diane. They lamented that Diane was getting a free pass by Kyle, Michael and Jack. They all felt that Diane was using Kyle to get to Jack. They rattled off Diane’s misdeeds – she framed Phyllis for arson, and she slept with Ashley’s fiance then blackmailed her, and she framed Nikki for murder. Phyllis wondered if the three of them ould do something about Diane. Phyllis wasn’t sure since they couldn’t stand to be in the same room with each other. “The enemy of my enemy is my friend,” Nikki replied. “At least temporarily,” Ashley said. They decided to pool their talents and get Diane out of their lives forever.

Allie and Noah went to the Abbott house. She was grateful he got her out of the conversation with Phyllis. She said Phyllis was trying to use her to get more information about Jack and the other Abbotts. She thought there was some kind of drama going on. He thought that was guaranteed if Phyllis was involved. He likened Phyllis to a force of nature, like an earthquake or forest fire. He said Phyllis didn’t understand boundaries, so if she crossed one, Allie would have to tell her. On the other hand, he said Phyllis had a good heart and she’d move mountains for the people she loved, like Summer. Allie said Summer and Phyllis seemed so different. Noah seemed Summer took after their dad – the steady presence in the hurricane that balanced everything out. Allie encouraged Noah to tell Nick about stepping away from New Hope. She knew it wouldn’t be easy, but Nick was a good dad, and good dads wanted their kids to be happy. She knew from experience. He thanked her for that and for everything, then he kissed her.

Phyllis: Hey. Why are you still here? I thought Victoria scraped you off of the bottom of her shoe.

Ashland: Beat it, Phyllis.

Phyllis: Not beating it. I can be here.

Ashland: Yeah. Okay, fine. I admit I am not the guy who decides who comes and goes in this park. In fact, I don’t decide much of anything these days.

Phyllis: It must suck reaping what you sow.

Ashland: Boy, you really are enjoying gloating over my downfall, aren’t you?

Phyllis: I am.

Ashland: Oh.

Phyllis: I actually am. Yeah. What are you doing here? Honestly, I thought Victoria got rid of you. And I’m really impressed with her. Maybe I’ll give her a party at the Grand Phoenix for getting rid of you professionally and personally.

Ashland: That is a fantastic idea. You should get on that right now

**********************

Ashland: My gosh, just look at you. Is it possible you’ve grown like a foot since the last time I saw you?

Harrison: Maybe.

Ashland: Oh, then that means I’ve been away for way too long. I-I — I’m so sorry that we haven’t been able to spend more time together.

Harrison: I miss you, father.

Ashland: I miss you too, son. I’ve just been… I’ve been traveling. I’ve been very busy.

Harrison: With work?

Ashland: Yeah. Yeah. And I may have to leave again soon, so I’m really glad that I’m seeing you right now.

Ashland: You’re looking for harrison?

Kyle: Where is he?

Ashland: Relax. You didn’t have to bring the cavalry.

Kyle: Where is my son?

Ashland: He’s fine. He’s right down there by the pond with your mother.

Michael: I see them.

Kyle: I’m gonna go get him.

Summer: No, you stay here and keep an eye on ashland. I’ll go check on harrison.

Ashland: [ Sighs ] So what’s the plan? You’re gonna keep me here until the cops arrive?

Michael: They’ll be here any second. So don’t even think about fleeing. There’s no way out. Too many witnesses here have seen you with harrison in direct violation of the restraining order.

Kyle: What the hell were you thinking?

Ashland: I was trying to reassure that little child that I haven’t abandoned him. That yet another person hasn’t walked out of his life. That’s my crime, and you want to have me arrested for it? For — for showing compassion and kindness to that child? Kyle, this is madness. I just wanted to have a moment with him, to hold him, to look him in the eye and to say goodbye. Are you all so cold that you actually think I’m a threat to him?

Nikki: You’re a threat to everyone you come in contact with. And now you’re finally going where you belong — a jail cell.

Ashland: [ Sighs ]

Victoria: Everything is set for the press conference. We just have a few last things that we need to cover.

Victor: But, sweetheart, we only three of us here. Where’s your mother? And by the way, perhaps adam as well. How did your conversation with him go?

Nick: Yeah, I’d like to hear what adam has to say for himself.

Victoria: It went exactly as I predicted. He made a pitch for me to keep sally on as head of newman media. He went all out. But there was a surprising twist to his appeal. He said that he wouldn’t interfere in sally’s decision because they’ve broken up.

Sally: I love you, but in the interest of being a good partner, you need to call me back and let me know what is going on. You’re driving me absolutely crazy with this disappearing act and not in a good way.

[ Sighs ]

Chloe: Is everything okay?

Sally: Yeah. Everything is super, especially since I love uncertainty and being ignored.

Chloe: What’s going on?

Sally: I haven’t heard from adam since yesterday. He sent a brief text saying that he was going to chicago for the night and not to worry, but now he’s not responding, so I can’t help but worry.

Noah: Here we are, two mock mojitos.

Mariah: Thank you.

Noah: Thanks for agreeing to come out with me today. Wouldn’t have been much fun by myself.

Mariah: Well, then I’m glad you called us, because that’s one thing that tessa and I can do — bring the fun.

Tessa: It’s true. We’re a nonstop traveling carnival.

Noah: Oh, don’t I know it. I thought to myself, “who can light up a room the second they walk through the door?”

Mariah: Yeah, I’d say that’s us.

Noah: And apparently you bring swimwear to work, so that’s a plus.

Mariah: Well, we — we weren’t at work.

Noah: Oh, where were you?

Tessa: Um… at the doctor’S. I was getting a second opinion about my vocal nodes.

Noah: How’d it go?

Tessa: Not great.

Ashland: So the cops who are on their way, I assume they’re also on victor’s payroll, just like the judge who came up with this ridiculous restraining order?

Michael: I have no idea what you’re talking about. Everything here is on the up and up. Not everybody needs to be paid off to enforce the law.

Diane: Harrison’s fine. Summer’s with him now. They’re just looking at the ducks.

Kyle: Thank you.

Ashland: Yes, thank you so much, diane, for looking out for harrison’s best interests. You are a saint.

Diane: Just trying to protect my grandson.

Ashland: Really? From me? That’s why you set this up? This was your handiwork, wasn’t it?

Michael: You don’t have anyone to blame but yourself, locke.

Ashland: The hell I don’T.

Officer roberts: We received a report of a restraining order violation.

Nikki: Yes. That man right there.

Ashland: [ Sighs ] Okay, okay, look, officer, this is an innocent mistake. I just happened to be here going for a walk in the park. Harrison saw mE. He came running to me. I couldn’t turn my back on him. That would have been devastating for him. You must understand that. Do you have children?

Officer roberts: I’m just here to enforce the law, sir.

Ashland: Okay, okay. Can — can we just not make this a big thing, please? I don’t think harrison should see me getting arrested.

Kyle: I’ll go distract him right now.

Officer roberts: Are you coming voluntarily or do I need these?

Ashland: I’m not gonna fight this.

Michael: [ Chuckles ] That’s a relief. Good work, diane. Diane did the right thing, didn’t she, nikki? Michael: My tip is, the worst lies

provided by…

Nikki: Yes, diane did the right thing in telling us that ashland was here in violation of his restraining order.

Summer: Is he gone? Did they arrest him?

Michael: They did, thanks to diane.

Summer: I-is that true?

Nikki: It is. Diane is the one who alerted us while keeping harrison safe.

Diane: Well, I was in the right place at the right time, and I was happy to help. I hope this shows you that I’m one of the good guys, nikki.

Nikki: One decent move does not erase a lifetime of destruction.

Diane: It’s a start. But anyway, your opinion of me wasn’t my main concern. I did it for kyle and summer and my sweet little grandson.

Tessa: The doctor today had the same diagnosis as the first.

Noah: So what does that mean?

Mariah: Surgery.

Noah: [ Sighs ] When?

Tessa: Tomorrow.

Noah: That’s soon.

Tessa: Yeah, well, I already had it scheduled. I was hoping that the second opinion would be different from the first. But no luck.

Mariah: We are going to be very, very, very, very, very, very positive. Got it?

Noah: That’s a lot of positivity.

Mariah: Yes. It’s just the perfect amount, right?

Tessa: Yes. And that’s why we are so glad that you called so we could hang out by the pool and relax and not think about tomorrow.

Noah: Hey, I’m sure everything’s gonna be fine. The surgery will go well. You’ll be back on stage in no time.

Tessa: That’s what I’m hoping for.

Allie: Hey, you guys.

Mariah: Hey!

Noah: Hey. Please, take a seat.

Allie: Thanks.

Noah: It’s actually ali’s relaxation day today, too. She starts her first day at jabot tomorrow.

Tessa: [ Gasps ]

Mariah: Oh, my gosh. So fun. Yeah. I mean, we can have lunch at the jabot cafeteria. Or we could have lunch here. I mean…

Allie: Sorry. I was just admiring this place. It’s very cool. It reminds of the L.A. Rooftop bars.

Noah: Except this one’s only open during the summer. That’s wisconsin weather for you.

Tessa: [ Chuckles ]

Noah: Mm.

[ Cellphone chimes ] Oh, official new hope business.

Allie: So you didn’t talk to your dad yet about your plans?

Mariah: Plans? What plans?

Sally: Don’t you think it’s odd that adam left town without having a conversation with me about it?

Chloe: Of all of the things i find odd about adam, I wouldn’t even rank that in the top 100. Were you two arguing about something?

Sally: No. I mean, things were great. We were happy. In fact, we’d actually just snuck away to our little secret getaway suite for some private time, and I felt so connected to him.

Chloe: Okay, okay, yeah, yeah. I just — I don’t need any more details. Maybe he was pulled away for work, some kind of emergency.

Sally: [ Sighs ] It’s not really a possibility since he has officially walked away from newman.

Chloe: You know, I was wondering how that was gonna play out when victoria came back.

Sally: Yeah, well, it played out exactly like she wanted. She is back in charge and he is out in the cold.

Chloe: Uh-oh. Hmm. You know, I know adam’s instinct is always to get payback. So do we all have to take cover?

Sally: He went on a rampage at first, but he has calmed down and he promised me that he wasn’t gonna get into any trouble.

Chloe: Oh, adam newman made a promise. Yeah, we’ve — we’ve got nothing to worry about.

Sally: It’s not like that, chloe. When he says something to me, he means it.

Chloe: Okay, look, I’ve been down this road before, and if you think that adam is going to keep his word, then you are in for the rudest of awakenings.

Sally: Okay. I suppose it’s possible that he changed his mind about getting payback for what his family did to him. Or, yes, maybe he just flat out lied to me. But either way, he could be out there right now exacting some kind of revenge on victor and victoria as we speak.

Victoria: Adam said that it was his decision to end things with sally. He claimed that it just wasn’t working.

Nick: Why’d he tell you?

Victoria: He thought I would hold it against sally that she was in a relationship with him.

Nick: I don’t know. The last few times I’ve seen them together, they seemed fine. Maybe this is all part of a calculated plan.

Victoria: I have no idea. But this supposed breakup could be a big bluff by adam. A way to keep sally in her current position. We’re just gonna have to wait and see what happens.

Nick: So what are you gonna do? Are you going to give sally a chance to show us what she can do before you make any changes?

Victoria: [ Sighs ] The media division has become a very important part of this company, and I don’t want to see it in potentially dangerous hands. I’m gonna have to make a decision about sally sooner rather than later.

Victor: Listen, be that all as it may, I’m more interested in what adam’s plans are. Is he coming back or not?

Victoria: Daddy, I know it’s not the answer that you want to hear, but adam hasn’t changed his mind. He has no intention of coming back to work here.

Victor: I see.

Nick: So what’s he gonna do? He must have some move in mind.

Victoria: I don’t know. He hasn’t shared his plans with me.

Nick: Well, look at that, once again, adam is the wild card.

Michael: We got lucky. Diane really came through.

Nikki: Well, as she said, she was in the right spot at the right time. She usually is.

Michael: What do you mean?

Nikki: No matter the situation, things always seem to work out for her.

Michael: Nikki, she did something good.

Nikki: No, no. She was trying to improve her image to convince people that she has changed when she has not. She never does anything selflessly.

Michael: Selfless or not, she protected harrison.

Nikki: Michael, one can never disregard her motives.

Michael: And I think you should give her the benefit of the doubt every now and then.

Nikki: Okay, well, the important thing is that ashland is finally facing legal consequences for his actions.

Michael: Well, don’t get your hopes up too high. He’ll probably be out later today.

Nikki: What, are you kidding me?

Michael: It’s a misdemeanor. He’ll make bail.

Nikki: Well, that’s maddening.

[ Sighs ] Well, at least we sent a strong message.

Michael: Oh, absolutely. He now knows we’re not playing games. He’d be smart to leave town for good.

Nikki: It’s a step in the right direction.

Victor: Well, to be honest with you, I had hoped that i would have been able to announce adam’s return to the company. It would have been nice to talk about all the corporate accomplishments, you know, and mention the fact that we’ve all come together as a family under the newman umbrella.

Victoria: Yes, daddy. It would have been a lovely photo op, but if adam came back, it would have inevitably led to more conflict.

Victor: Be that as it may, I’m still disappointed, okay? I was willing to mediate. We could have worked this out.

Victoria: Well, I’m sorry. You’re just going to have to accept the fact that adam did not want to be my subordinate,

Victor: But I told him it wouldn’t be that way. You know, I told him he would have autonomy of his division.

Victoria: He made it clear that it was a nonstarter.

Victor: Did you do anything to attempt to change his mind?

Victoria: No, I didn’t, because I think his decision was the best one for the company.

Victor: [ Sighs ] The only one who could have changed his mind would have been sally. She didn’t take my advice. I told her explicitly the best move would be to convince adam to come back and take the reins from her.

Victoria: Well, even if she tried to make that case, she failed. And if they really did break up, I doubt that she would give up her promotion for her ex.

Victor: Well, if she is no longer the key to adam coming back to the company, then what the hell use is she? As far as I’m concerned, she can disappear. Don’t need her.

Victoria: [ Sighs ]

Nick: What do you want to do, vick?

Victoria: I don’t have a lot of faith in sally running a media division day in and day out. And if she and adam really have broken up, he’s not gonna be around to help guide her.

Nick: She could be overwhelmed.

Victoria: The biggest argument I have for keeping her around is that I don’t have a replacement. I’ll give it some more thought, but I need to make a decision about sally by the end of today.

Chloe: Maybe you are right. Maybe adam was telling you the truth when you said he wasn’t interested in payback. It a little out of character, but stranger things have happened. I’m sorry that you are experiencing this kind of uncertainty, but…

Sally: But I should expect it being in a relationship with adam. I genuinely am sorry for you, though.

Sally: Thank you.

Chloe: So I assume with everything up in the air, things are on hold as far as my potential role is concerned?

Sally: I’ve been assured that my job is safe, so the offer still stands.

Chloe: And who assured you that your job is safe?

Sally: Adam.

Chloe: Oh, okay. From the guy who’s gone missing and that we haven’t heard from. Great.

Sally: I will stay in charge unless and until they drag me out of this office. And I’m confident that I can prove myself to victoria and everyone else. But I need a second-in-command.

Chloe: Well, I’m definitely interested.

Sally: Do you think chelsea’s gonna take it badly if you come work here?

Chloe: Well, chelsea has decided to dissolve our partnership. She needs time to figure things out, and I respect that, but, you know, it does leave me without a job. So this timing is actually perfect. And I think that we work really well together. At least — at least we did when we first started the fashion platform.

Sally: Yeah, I couldn’t agree more. I don’t know what chelsea is thinking, but I’m glad that it frees you up because I really think we can do big things.

Chloe: Me too. So where do we start?

Sally: By reviewing everything. Seeing what we want to keep and what we want to change, and making our mark on this company.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

[ Sighs ] We should probably hold off on all of this because our jobs might not exist much longer.

Chloe: [ Scoffs ]

Sally: [ Sighs ] Announcer: Type 2 diabetes?

Allie: I am so sorry. I didn’t mean to say anything about your big decision. Just slipped out.

Mariah: Wait, wait, we started at plans, and now we’re at big decision? What’s going on?

Noah: It’s okay, allie. If it’s gonna slip out, I’m glad it’s in front of them. I was actually gonna ask them about it anyway. They’re pretty good with advice.

Mariah: We are awesome at giving advice.

Allie: I feel like you guys are awesome at most things.

Mariah: That is so true.

Tessa: Mm. So what’s the deal?

Noah: I am thinking about leaving new hope, but I don’t know if it’s the right time, considering my dad just went back to newman.

Mariah: What? The family business, for real?

Tessa: Wow. I never thought I’d see him there again.

Noah: Surprised me, too. But he thinks that he can make a difference over there, help things run smoothly, and he expects me to take over at new hope. He said that’s the only reason he felt comfortable leaving.

Mariah: Ah, so that’s why you don’t want to tell him.

Tessa: But you never really fit in there, did you?

Noah: No, not especially. I mean, they do admirable work, but it’s just not really my thing.

Mariah: Well, yeah, I mean, because you’re not an admirable guy.

Noah: Thank you so much for that.

Mariah: [ Laughs ]

Noah: She’s kidding.

Tessa: No, no, it’s not that you’re not a caring and generous person. You’re just not really the office type. I mean, I’m honestly surprised it lasted this long.

Allie: Yeah, you just — you need to find your bliss.

Noah: Okay, I hear what you’re all saying, but it doesn’t change the fact that I feel guilty about leaving my dad and new hope high and dry.

Mariah: So you’re just gonna suck it up and stay at a job that you don’t want?

Noah: [ Sighs ]

Victoria: In addition to the personnel announcements, I think it’s important that we make sure it’s reported that revenues are up across all sectors.

Victor: Yep, I agree.

Nikki: I’m here.

Nick: Just in time.

Nikki: I know I’m late. I’m sorry.

Victor: Where have you been, sweetheart?

Nikki: Well, I have been at the park watching ashland get arrested.

Victoria: What?

Nikki: He violated his restraining order. He was in the park with harrison, so michael had the police arrest him.

Nick: Is harrison okay?

Nikki: Oh, he’s fine. He wasn’t aware of anything when they let ashland away.

Victoria: Thank god. Ashland’s gone too far this time.

Nick: Well, harrison’s alright. That is by far the most important part.

Victoria: Daddy.

Victor: Mm-hmm?

Victoria: You don’t seem surprised by this news. Did you have a hand in it?

Victor: I reminded michael baldwin that ashland locke would probably go see his son, harrison. I told him to be vigilant, which he obviously was. Job well done.

Nikki: Well, he had some help this time.

Nick: What do you mean?

Nikki: Diane was there. She’s the one that tipped off michael.

Victor: Well, I’ll be damned. Ashland locke is even too despicable for the likes of diane jenkins.

Nick: Well, she’s his grandmother. She was probably concerned about him.

Nikki: No, that’s what she wants you to think. She is trying to convince us that she’s now a decent human being so that we will let our guard down. Just because michael bought it, don’t you.

Victoria: Oh, don’t worry. After everything that’s happened to me, what ashland did, I’m not gonna give anyone the benefit of the doubt ever again.

Nick: That’s awfully cynical, vick.

Nikki: Yes, I would hate for you to adopt that attitude regarding humanity as a whole. But when it comes to diane, feel free.

Victor: Listen. Doesn’t make a difference how this all happened. Most important thing is that ashland locke is paying the consequences for his actions.

Ashland: This is a textbook case of harassment. I mean, it’s laughable. In fact, once everything is said and done, after I’ve sued the genoa city police department for millions of dollars, this case will be in an actual textbook at the police academy under the heading of “how to not treat a responsible citizen.” I’ll be out of here before you know it.

Officer roberts: Okay, big shot. I’ll tell you when your lawyer arrives.

Ashland: [ Sighs ]

Sally: Okay. Let’s watch, see if we can get any answers. Though it’s probably not a good sign that they didn’t tell me about this press conference, is it?

Chloe: Well, not especially, no. But maybe it was just an oversight.

Sally: [ Sighs ] Come on. Surely newman media should be covering a newman event. Of course, maybe victoria just picked her favorite reporter to cover it and went over my head. Which doesn’t speak too highly of her view of me either.

Chloe: Let’s just hope for the best until we know for sure what’s happening. Look, they’re starting.

Victor: Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for coming. I’m happy to announce that my daughter victoria has come back from a short sabbatical and resumed the position of ceo of newman enterprises. She’ll be joined by my wife, nikki, as co-ceo and my son nicholas as chief operating officer. Now, without further ado, my daughter victoria.

Victoria: With my father’s guidance, we are looking forward to this brand-new era for newman enterprises.

Sally: [ Sighs ]

With age comes more…

“The young and the restless”

will continue. I know there’s conflicting information

Diane: [ Sighs ] How’s harrison?

Summer: He’s fine. He’s having some grapes and animal crackers in the kitchen.

Diane: Do you think he saw what happened with ashland?

Summer: [ Sighs ] I don’t think so. I don’t even think that he knew that there was a police officer in the park. He was so focused on those ducks.

Diane: [ Chuckles ] Well, that’s a relief.

Summer: He actually seemed happy to see ashland. But luckily, I don’t think that locke got a chance to fill his head with any new lies.

Diane: Well, I’m glad to hear that. I was just so thrown by the whole incident.

Kyle: Yeah, I get it. I’ve got to shake off my own fears now.

Summer: [ Sighs ]

Kyle: It wouldn’t have taken much for ashland to race away with harrison, and he still might have enough money to whisk them away on a private jet to who knows where and vanish for good.

Diane: He wouldn’t dare.

Summer: Let’s just be grateful that harrison is home safe and sound.

Kyle: Agreed. Everything okay?

Diane: Yeah, I’m just thinking about the park. It was — it was a close call.

Kyle: Everything’s alright. You can relax now.

Diane: Well, I know that harrison’s okay, but what about me? Are you angry with me, kyle? Because you have every right to be.

[ All chuckling ]

Noah: There we are.

Allie: Thank you.

Noah: Not a problem. Did it out of the kindness of my heart, not because the three of you were ganging up on me.

Mariah: Oh, I’m so sorry. Did we hurt your “wittle” feelings?

Noah: I have learned that quality advice can sometimes hurt your feelings, but I am gonna figure out a way to tell my dad I’m leaving new hope.

Tessa: When?

Noah: I’m gonna wait until he gets a little bit more settled at newman, so please, until then, do not tell anybody.

Tessa: Oh, of course not.

Mariah: I mean, you don’t have to worry about me. I’ve already forgotten everything we talked about.

Tessa: [ Chuckles ]

Noah: Allie?

Allie: I will do my best to make sure it doesn’t slip out again.

Tessa: So what’s next on the noah newman agenda? Are you back to art?

Noah: Since I’ve been back from london, I’m kind of burnt out on the whole art scene. But I was thinking, since I’ve been here, what is the thing that has got me the most enthused? What’s the thing that’s got me the most excited that I’ve worked on?

Mariah: Tessa’s album art?

Noah: That’s definitely up there, but what I was referring to actually involves both of you.

Tessa: Oh, are you saying that us hanging out by the pool has just convinced you to be a lifeguard?

Noah: That’s not a bad idea, but I was actually talking about your wedding. I had a great time turning the top of the tower into a funky, cool club.

Tessa: You did a spectacular job.

Allie: You did. It was the most interesting wedding I’ve been to.

Mariah: And people are still talking about it.

Tessa: Oh, yeah. I see posts on my social media pages all the time about how spectacular it looked. I mean, our wedding was the hippest, funnest club in town.

Noah: So why not keep the party going?

Victoria: We’d like to open it up for questions now.

Where does adam newman fit in with all these changes?

Victoria: That actually is a very good question. My brother filled in admirably for me while I was gone, and I sincerely appreciate all of his hard work. He really stepped up for the family. But since my return, adam has decided to move on into other things outside of newman enterprises.

Sally: Because you kicked him in the teeth.

Nikki: We would all like to wish adam success in his next endeavor.

Sally: Yeah, until you need to use him as a tool to keep victoria and nick in line.

Chloe: Okay, you know, you’re just talking to the screen. You can just dial it back.

Sally: Sorry.

If adam’s gone, where does that leave newman media? Is sally spectra still in charge?

Sally: [ Sighs ] Moderate to severe eczema still disrupts my skin.

Mariah: I’m confused. What do you mean by “keep the party going”? Are you suggesting that tessa and I get married at the top of the tower on a regular basis? I mean, that’s a little weird, but if so, I’m not opposed to it. What about you?

Tessa: No, I’m in.

Noah: No, I’m talking about turning it into a club. Look, once I tell my dad how I feel, I’m gonna ask grandpa to let me lease it.

Mariah: [ Chuckles ] You want victor newman as a landlord?

Noah: Hey, he is nice to his grandkids, and I think I can probably get a good deal. I want to deck it out how it was for your wedding.

Tessa: It’s not a bad idea.

Noah: I can combine my experience in the art world and working at the underground and just, you know, really just make something that’s my own. It could be the coolest place in town.

Allie: Well, I love it.

Mariah: Yeah, so do I.

Tessa: I’m just excited to see you so happy about something. And I’m even happier that it’s this idea.

Noah: Hey, maybe you could even perform there sometime.

Tessa: Oh, noah, you can’t afford me.

[ Laughter ]

Mariah: Well, you know what? This calls for a round of celebratory drinks. I will go get them.

Allie: I will help.

Tessa: So what’s going on with allie? Is there potential?

Mariah: So how are things going at the abbott house? Are you getting along with everybody?

Allie: Yeah, it’s been great. Everyone’s making me feel like I’m part of the family, although sometimes it can be a little daunting. It can be hard to talk certain people out of their own agendas.

Mariah: I feel like you’re talking about the extended family. Kyle’s mom, right?

Allie: Yeah.

Mariah: What, has she moved into the house yet?

Allie: No. [ Chuckles ] But, you know, I wouldn’t put it past her to try. She’s been perfectly nice to me, but I just get the sense that she sees me as a useful tool. You know, she used me to reintroduce herself to the abbotts, and now she’s being really nice to me in case she needs me for one of her future plays.

Mariah: My advice, if you want it — just stick to the core abbotts. They’ll have your back no matter what. And noah, too. You know, he’s one of the good guys, and I love seeing him so happy.

Allie: Yeah. Me, too.

Noah: I really like hanging out with allie. I don’t know where it’s headed, but we had a first date, and it went well.

Tessa: Ooh, give me details.

Noah: We had dinner.

Tessa: Whoa, slow down. Too much information.

Noah: Okay, we had fun, and I feel good when I’m with her. That’s what matters, right?

Tessa: Absolutely. I’m so thrilled for you, noah.

Kyle: What are you talking about? Why would I be angry with you?

Diane: Because I was with harrison at the park. I was responsible for him.

Kyle: Yeah, but you didn’t do anything wrong.

Summer: It’s not like you colluded with ashland. Did you?

Kyle: Summer.

Diane: No, no, it’s alright. You have every right to ask that. You know, when it comes to the safety of your son, we don’t need to worry about being polite. But, no, no, I didn’t collude with ashland. I know he thought of me as an ally, but I wasn’t about to take his side.

Kyle: Of course not.

Diane: But, kyle, I let him get close to harrison. I mean, it was — it was only for a couple of moments, and I thought it would be okay. And I don’t think he said or did anything damaging, but he could have. I should have thought through it.

Kyle: Don’t beat yourself up. Nothing happened. Harrison’s fine, and ashland’s been put on notice, thanks to you.

Diane: But maybe I should have texted you instead of michael. But in the moment, I just thought he would know exactly what to do from a legal standpoint.

Kyle: Reaching out to the lawyer who set up the restraining order was smart. And you didn’t alert ashland or provoke him.

Summer: Most importantly, harrison has walked away from this unscathed, without a care in the world. Diane, you handled it correctly.

Kyle: Yeah. I’m not angry with you at all. You did the right thing, and I’m so, so grateful. You know, you really came through for us today. Thank you.

Diane: Okay.

Victoria: We were actually just discussing our plans for newman media.

Sally: Without keeping the division’s ceo in the loop.

Victoria: We have the highest hopes for newman media. In fact, we believe that it will outperform all of the analyst’s expectations. But as far as leadership goes, any possible staff realignments are still under consideration. So thank you all for coming and we appreciate it. Thank you for taking time out of your busy day.

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Chloe: Possible staff reassignments. What the hell does that mean?

Sally: [ Sighs ] I don’t know, but it doesn’t sound good.

Trelegy for copd.

Allie: Thank you.

Noah: To friendship.

Mariah: To tessa’s surgery going well tomorrow.

Allie: To noah’s very exciting nightclub plans.

Tessa: To first dates.

Mariah: Cheers.

Allie: Cheers.

Mariah: [ Laughs ]

Nick: Vick, you were awesome. Absolutely crushed it. Very much in command.

Victoria: Thank you.

Nikki: Oh, yes, you were terrific. And the message was so clear. Your steady hand is steering the ship again. That ought to bring confidence back to the business community.

Victoria: I really think we hit the idea that we’re moving forward and that we’re out from under the dark cloud of ashland locke and we’re stronger than ever. Anything is possible.

Nikki: Are you talking about the business or yourself?

Victoria: I don’t know. Maybe a little bit of both. But I am glad that I’m moving forward with the two of you by my side. And I’m so grateful for your support over the last few months. I really am.

Nick: I’m glad I was there for you. But I’m even happier you turned a corner. It’s nothing but blue skies ahead.

Nikki: The question is, where is your advisor?

Victoria: Dad? He didn’t tell me he was leaving.

Nikki: He’s not here now. Where did he go?

Officer roberts: You have a visitor.

Ashland: [ Sighs ] Well, it’s about time. I’ve been here since…

Victor: Nice to see you. This is where you belong, you know. Like a caged animal.

Ashland: My lawyers will have me out of here any second.

Victor: Your lawyers won’t do a damn thing. This is where you’ll end up if you take another close step to that boy.

Ashland: You’re using that boy like a pawn. Punishing him to keep kicking me while I’m down. It’s despicable.

Victor: You’re one of the most despicable human beings I’ve ever met. Don’t stand there in that hypocritical righteousness, as if you are the offended party. You deserve everything that you’ve gotten.

Ashland: I don’t deserve this. You’re the one who deserves to suffer loss.

Victor: Is that a threat?

Ashland: You can take it however you’d like.

Victor: I don’t like it. Okay? I don’t like it. No one — no one breaks my daughter’s heart and gets away with it. No one! Watch it. I’ll follow you wherever that you go.

Recap written by Christine

At Chancellor Park, Kyle demanded to know where Harrison was. Ashland pointed him out – he was at the pond with Diane. Kyle was going to go get his son, but Summer said she’d get him while Kyle kept an eye on Ashland. Ashland commented that they were planning to keep him here until the cops arrived. Michael told Ashland not to try to run, because there were too many witnesses who saw him violating the restraining order. Kyle demanded to know what Ashland was thinking. Ashland said his crime was reassuring Harrison that he hadn’t been abandoned and that yet another person hadn’t walked out of his life. Ashland maintained that this was madness. He’d just wanted to have a moment to hold Harrison and say goodbye. He asked if they were all so cold as to think he was a threat to Harrison. Nikki contended that Ashland was a threat to everyone he came into contact with, and now he was going to jail, where he belonged.

Ashland asked if the cops who were on their way were on Victor’s payroll, just like the judge who signed the restraining order. Michael claimed he had no idea what Ashland was talking about. He said not everyone needed to be paid off to enforce the law. Diane approached and said Summer took Harrison to look at the ducks. Ashland sarcastically thanked Diane. She said she was just trying to protect her grandson. He accused her of setting this up. A cop came, and Nikki pointed out Ashland. Ashland claimed this was all an innocent mistake – he just happened to be at the park when Harrison ran to him, and he couldn’t bring himself to ignore the child. The cop was unmoved. Ashland didn’t want Harrison to see him get arrested, so Kyle went to distract him. Ashland wasn’t cuffed; he went with the cop peacefully.

Michael pointedly told Nikki that Diane did the right thing. Nikki grudgingly agreed. Summer returned and asked if Ashland was gone, and Michael said yes, thanks to Diane. Nikki also gave Diane credit. Diane hoped this showed Nikki that she was one of the good guys. Nikki said one right move didn’t erase a lifetime of destruction. Diane said that Nikki’s opinion wasn’t her main concern. She did this for Kyle, Summer and Harrison.

Later, Nikki and Michael were alone, he said they got lucky because Diane really came through. Nikki said Diane was in the right spot at the right time, as usual. He asked what that meant. She said that, no matter the situation, things always seemed to work out for Diane. He contended that Diane tried to do something good, but Nikki said Diane was trying to improve her image. He painted Diane in a good light, while Nikki argued that Diane never did anything selfless. Michael stated that, selfless or not, Diane protected Harrison. Nikki shifted gears and said the important thing was Ashland was finally facing legal consequences. Michael said Ashland would probably be out later today, since it was a misdemeanor, and he’d make bail. She said at least they sent a strong message. Michael thought it would be smart of Ashland to leave town for good.

Victoria walked into her office, where Victor and Nick were waiting. Victor was behind the desk. Victoria said that everything was set for the press conference. Victor protested that there were only three of them, and Nikki and Adam were missing. Victor and Nick wanted to hear how Victoria’s talk with Adam went. She said Adam tried to convince her not to fire Sally, and he said he and Sally broke up. Nick was skeptical, because the last few times he saw Sally and Adam together, they seemed fine. Victoria had no idea what was going on – she said Adam could be bluffing to keep Sally in her position. Victoria said the media division had become a very important part of the company, and she didn’t want to see it in potentially dangerous hands. She had to make a decision about Sally soon. Victor asked if Adam was coming back to Newman Media. Victoria knew it wasn’t what Victor wanted to hear, but Adam had no intention of going back. Nick was sure Adam had a plan. He said once again, Adam was the wildcard.

Victor admitted he’d hoped to announce at the press conference that Adam had returned to the company and that they were working together as a family. Victoria said that would’ve been a lovely photo op that would’ve lead to more conflict. He was still disappointed. She said that Adam didn’t want to be her subordinate. Victor asked if Victoria made any attempt to change Adam’s mind. She said no, because she thought Adam’s decision was best for the company. Victor thought Sally was the only one who could save his mind. Victoria said that if Sally tried, she failed, and if the breakup was real, Sally likely wouldn’t give up her promotion for her ex. “Well if she is no longer the key to Adam coming back to the company then what the hell use is she?,” Victor said. Victoria said she didn’t have a lot of faith in Sally running the business day to day, and if this breakup was real, Adam wouldn’t be around to guide Sally. However, Victoria didn’t have a real replacement. She vowed to make a decision about Sally by the end of the day.

Nikki went to work and told her family about Ashland’s arrest. Victoria thought Ashland had gone too far. Nick felt that the important thing was that Harrison was okay. Victoria noticed Victor didn’t seem surprised. Victor said he’d instructed Michael to be vigilant because Ashland would likely try to see his son. Nikki revealed that Diane was the one who tipped off Michael. Victor said Ashland was too despicable for Diane, but Nick thought that Diane was probably just looking out for her grandson. Nikki was adamant that Diane was trying to get people to let their guards down. She didn’t want Nick falling for it like Michael had. Victoria swore she’d never give anyone the benefit of the doubt again after what Ashland did. Nick thought that was cynical. Nikki didn’t want Victoria to adopt that attitude toward people as a whole, but she thought it was fine to treat Diane that way. Victor said the important thing was that Ashland was paying.

Ashland was lead to a holding cell, ranting all the way and vowing to sue the police department. The officer sarcastically called him a big shot and said she’d tell him when his lawyer arrived.

Sally was at Newman Media. She called Adam and left a message saying she loved him, but she needed to know what was going on. Chloe walked in, and a worried Sally said she hadn’t heard from Adam since last night, when he sent her a short text saying he was taking a trip to Chicago for the night. Sally thought it was weird, but Chloe said that of all the things she found odd about Adam, she wouldn’t rank that in the top 100. chloe asked if Sally and Adam argued before this. Sally said they were happy, and they’d just snuck off to their secret getaway suite for some private time. Chloe didn’t want the details. She suggested a work emergency. Sally revealed that Adam quit Newman – Victoria was back in charge, and Adam was out in the cold. Chloe asked if they should all duck for cover while Adam got payback. Sally said Adam promised her that he wouldn’t get into any trouble. “When he says something to me, he means it,” Sally said. Chloe said she’d been down this road before, and Sally was in for a rude awakening if she thought Adam was going to keep his word. Sally said maybe Adam changed his mind about not getting payback, or maybe he just lied to her, but either way, he could be exacting revenge on Victor and Victoria right now.

Chloe said maybe Sally was right, and Adam was telling the truth. Chloe was sorry Sally was experiencing this kind of uncertainty, but… Sally knew Chloe thought she should’ve expected this when she got into a relationship with Adam. Chloe assumed the job offer was on hold, now that everything was up in the air. Sally said she’d been assured that her job was safe. Chloe asked who assured Sally. Sally said Adam did. She vowed to stay in charge unless someone dragged her out of this office. Sally was confident she could prove herself, but she needed a second in command. Chloe was interested. Sally asked how Chelsea would take it. Chloe said Chelsea dissolved the partnership, and now she was out of a job, so this offer was perfectly timed.

Sally heard about the press conference and it made her think that her job might be about to disappear. She didn’t think it was a good sign that Newman Enterprises was doing a press conference and she was left out of the loop. Chloe wanted to stay positive. Sally and Chloe watched the press conference.

At the press conference, Victor said Victoria was back from sabbatical and would resume the position of CEO of Newman Enterprises, with Nikki as co-CEO and Nick as COO. Victoria said, with Victor’s guidance, they looked forward to a brand new era for Newman Enterprises. A reporter asked where Adam fit into this. Victoria said her brother filled in admirably while she was gone, and she appreciated that, but since her return, he’d decided to move on to something outside Newman. Back at Newman Media, Sally grumbled to the screen that the family mistreated Adam and used him. A reporter asked if Sally was still in charge at Newman Media. Victoria said possible staff realignments were still under consideration. Sally didn’t think that sounded good.

Back at Newman, Victoria, Nikki and Nick returned to the office after the press conference. Nikki thought the business community would feel confident now that Victoria’s steady hand was at the helm again. Victoria thought they sent the message hat they were out from under the dark cloud of Ashland Locke and that they were stronger than ever and anything was possible. Nikki asked if Victoria was talking about the business or herself. Victoria guessed it was a bit of both. She was glad Nikki and Nick were by her side. Nick predicted nothing but blue skies ahead. Nikki wondered where Victor was.

Ashland heard the cop yell that he had a visitor. He thought it was his lawyer, and he began to grumble about how long they took – a complaint that was cut short when Victor appeared. Victor told Ashland he belonged there, like a caged animal. Ashland said that his lawyers would have him out in no time. Victor didn’t agree. He said Ashland would go back to jail if he approached the boy again. Ashland said Victor was using the boy like a pawn and punishing him to kick Ashland while he was down. Victor said Ashland had this coming. Ashland didn’t agree, and he said Victor was the one who deserved to suffer. Victor reached through the bars and grabbed Ashland. “No one breaks my daughter’s heart and gets away with it. No one!,” Victor snarled. He vowed to follow Ashland wherever he went. Victor left.

At the Abbott house, Diane looked at the family photos. Summer walked in, and Diane asked how Harrison was. He was fine and having a snack. Summer said Harrison seemed happy to see Ashland, and luckily, it didn’t seem like Locke had a chance to fill Harrison’s head with any more lies. Diane said she was thrown by the whole incident. Kyle joined the group and said he was shaken because Ashland could’ve run off with Harrison and vanish for good. Summer thought they should just be grateful Harrison was home safe and sound. Diane worried Kyle was angry with her.

Kyle asked why he’d be angry with Diane, when she didn’t do anything wrong. “It’s not like you colluded with Ashland? Did you?,” Summer replied. The question made Kyle bristle, but Diane thought Summer had every right to ask. She said she didn’t collude with Ashland. She said she let Ashland get close to Harrison for a few moments, and she didn’t think Ashland said anything out of line, but he could’ve. She blamed herself for not thinking things through. He didn’t want her to blame herself. She said maybe she should’ve texted Kyle instead of Michael, but in the moment, she thought he’d know what to do from a legal standpoint. Kyle thought Diane was smart to reach out to the lawyer who set up the restraining order. Summer said Harrison was unscathed, and Diane handled it correctly. Kyle thanked Diane and said he was grateful.

Noah, Tessa and Mariah were at Dive Bar on top of the Athletic Club. He’d invited them out. Tessa had just gotten a second opinion on her vocal nodes, and it wasn’t good. Tessa was going in for surgery tomorrow. Mariah said they were going to be very very very very positive. Noah quipped that this was a lot of positivity. He also shared an optimistic message for Tessa. Allie came up, and Noah said tomorrow was her first day of work at Jabot. Noah got a text about New Hope, and Allie blurted out that he never talked to his dad about his plans.

Allie was so sorry – she didn’t mean to let that slip. Noah said it was okay, since he’d planned to get Mariah and Tessa’s advice on this anyway. He said he was thinking about leaving New Hope, but he wasn’t sure it was the right time, since his dad just went back to Newman. Tessa said Noah wasn’t the office type, so she was surprised he’d stayed at New Hope this long. Allie said Noah had to find his bliss. Noah still felt guilty leaving his dad and New Hope high and dry. Mariah asked if Noah was just going to stay at a job he didn’t want.

Noah said he was going to wait until Nick was more settled at Newman then tell him that he was leaving New Hope. Tessa asked if Noah was going back to art. He said he’d been bummed out on the art scene since London. Noah really enjoyed planning Tessa and Mariah’s wedding and decking out The Top of the Tower to look like a club. He was going to ask Victor if he could lease Top of the Tower and turn it into a permanent club. He said he could combine his experience in the art world and at The Underground and make something that was his own. He said maybe Tessa could perform there sometime. She said he couldn’t afford her, and everyone laughed. Mariah took Allie to the bar for drinks, and Tessa asked Noah how things were going with Allie. He really liked Allie. He didn’t know where it would go, but their first date was fun.

Mariah asked how things were going with Allie at the Abbott house. She said everyone had been really welcoming, but she got the feeling Diane was being nice in case she needed Allie in the future. Mariah advised sticking with the core Abbotts, and Noah too. Later, the foursome toasted.

Nikki: Well. Anything interesting going on in the world?

Michael: Always. Are you meeting someone?

Nikki: No, I just came by for some coffee on the way to the office. I happened to see you sitting here all by your lonesome.

Michael: Join me.

Nikki: I guess I have a few minutes.

Michael: So what’s new?

Nikki: Funny you should ask.

Michael: Mm.

Nikki: Just last night, victor told me that ashland is back in town. Apparently, he showed up at victoria’s office while victor was there, and he tried to convince him to lift the restraining order so that he could see harrison. Obviously, my husband denied that request.

Michael: Yeah, victor texted me about it. It sounded like ashland was in rare form.

Nikki: Honestly, the sheer gall of that man.

Michael: That’s one word for it.

Nikki: Well, I suppose after everything he’s done, we shouldn’t assume that he has a sense of right or wrong when it comes to that child. I mean, all ashland cares about is himself.

Michael: It’s called narcissism.

Nikki: Yeah, I sure am glad, though, that you and victor were able to convince kyle and summer to get that order. Just the thought of that monster being with that child makes me crazy.

Michael: I’m afraid I have to disagree.

Nikki: What do you mean?

Michael: About the monster part. For everybody’s sake, I’m hoping ashland defies the order.

Ashland: [ Sighs ]

You should get on that right now.

Phyllis: I will.

Ashland: Mm-hmm.

Phyllis: Are you waiting for someone? You’re waiting for someone.

Ashland: [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: You’re — you’re looking for harrison? Is that what you’re doing? Wow. Kyle and summer have a restraining order on you. You’re not thinking of violating it, are you?

[ Knock on door ]

Nate: Morning, lily.

Lily: Hey, how’s it going?

Nate: Can’t complain. And you?

Lily: I’m good. Oh. How’s elena doing in hawaii?

Nate: Oh, you know what? Her talk was a big hit, and she seems to be fitting in some r&R.

Lily: Oh, good, I’m glad. She’s so hardworking. She really deserves it.

Nate: Let me show you. Here’s some proof.

[ Chuckles ]

Lily: Oh, my god. Is that her snorkeling?

Nate: Yeah, testing out the limits of her waterproof smartphone.

Lily: Wow. She’s way braver than I am.

[ Chuckles ]

Nate: And here she is at dawn at the top of haleakala.

Lily: Wow, that is so beautiful.

Imani: Lily, hey, were you able to — oh, I am so sorry. I hope I’m not interrupting.

Lily: No, no, he’s just showing me pictures of elena in hawaii. We’re very jealous right now.

Imani: Oh, may I see?

Nate: Yeah, sure. I was just telling lily elena has been getting in some sightseeing.

Imani: Wow.

Nate: Oh, and apparently a couple of the panelists got together and went to a luau in lahaina.

Imani: Hmm. Looks like elena is having so much fun. Not a care in the world.

Lily: Well, I’m sure she misses you, nate. And I’m really sorry that you had to miss the trip because of work. I know you miss her, too.

Nate: Big time.

Imani: Well, I, for one, am glad he stayed. He was a huge help to me last night.

Lily: Oh. What happened last night?

Chelsea: Hey. Thank you both for coming to meet me.

Summer: Of course.

Kyle: I assume you want to discuss our proposal to have you design at marchetti.

Summer: I hope that we can sort out the details quickly because I cannot wait to dive into the creative with you.

Chelsea: Just slow down one second, because I have to get this out. I am — I am so grateful for the opportunity and for the fact that you both have faith in me.

Summer: That’s not sounding good.

Chelsea: I’ve already spoken to lauren about walking away from fenmore’s and designing, so I had to let you know… I’m afraid I won’t be able to take you up on your incredible offer. Listen, I’m done settling. Because this is my secret.

provided by… my blood pressure is borderline.

Summer: Is there anything we can do to change your mind? I mean, if this is about money or creative freedom, I’m sure that we can work out something to make it more appealing to you.

Chelsea: It’s not about either one of those things. I am taking a sabbatical from my career for personal reasons.

Kyle: I hope everything’s okay.

Chelsea: The truth is, I’ve come to realize and accept that I jumped into a way too stressful environment way too quickly. You know, after everything I’ve been through, it’s one thing to go back to work at a, you know, fashion platform that was up and running. But the truth of the matter is, it was with adam, you know? So then suddenly he’s my boss, he’s my ex, we were co-parenting. It was — it was just too much.

Summer: I thought that that was part of the reason you were happy at fenmore’S. No adam drama.

Chelsea: Well, that definitely helped. Yeah, but chloe and I had committed to doing a new line and delivering it in record time. I thought that would be a great challenge for me, you know, a good distraction. But the truth is, the chaos and the pace of the job really caught up to me. And I started ignoring issues I was having personally, issues that I had to deal with that were not going to go away on their own.

Summer: That sounds like a major epiphany.

Chelsea: It was. And I’m just glad I had it before I destroyed my friendship with chloe. Bottom line, I wasn’t ready to jump back into my career as quickly as I thought I was. It was just too much, too soon.

Kyle: Well, I can’t say I’m not disappointed.

Summer: Yeah, me too. I was really looking forward to a strong collaboration with you. But, I mean, we understand if you need to take some time to yourself.

Kyle: Definitely.

Summer: Just know that the offer still stands if and when you ever want to jump back in.

Chelsea: Thank you, summer. I really appreciate that. It’s very generous.

Summer: In the meantime, if there’s anything at all that we can do to help, just let us know.

Chelsea: Actually, I already have something that’s gonna keep me busy.

Nikki: Why on earth would you want ashland to defy his restraining order?

Michael: It is part of the contingency plan victor and i came up with to deal with the man. We assume that he’s going to act true to form and try to see harrison, and when he does, we’ll have him arrested on the spot.

Nikki: Hmm. How are you gonna make that happen? Sounds like there’s a lot of moving parts there.

Michael: I asked diane to help with the setup.

Nikki: Are you kidding me? That is a terrible idea.

Michael: Why? Because you don’t like her?

Nikki: Well, there is that. But more importantly, she’s not trustworthy. How can you put that child at risk?

Michael: Diane is harrison’s grandmother. She would never do anything to put him in any kind of jeopardy, which makes her the perfect person to recruit for this. Diane will protect her grandson at all costs.

Nikki: You have lost all perspective if you think diane has one protective bone in her body.

Ashland: Who appointed you the town police? I’m not up to anything. I’m just the guy taking a walk in the park. You said it yourself. This is a public park. And like you, I have every right to be here.

Phyllis: But everybody hates you, so why are you here still? Why? I know about your cancer charade, by the way. Anyone who listens to “the grinning soul” knows about it. How low do you have to go to execute a plan like that? I just want to know.

Ashland: I find it ironic that so many people in this town with sordid pasts feel they have the right to judge me. This — this is a town chock full of hypocrites. So what if I want to catch a glimpse of my son from a distance? Why is that a terrible thing?

Phyllis: Because you have a restraining order, and I will call harrison’s parents so quickly and the police, if you violate it.

Ashland: You’re all heart, phyllis.

Phyllis: You know, some people cross so many lines from which they can never return. You know that? I put you in that category and I also put diane jenkins, harrison’s grandma, in that category.

Ashland: You people have no mercy. Diane and I simply want the opportunity to have a relationship with that sweet young kid. Why is that a heinous crime?

Phyllis: First of all, I’m not going to discuss diane’s villainy with you. And look at you, you’re spinning out. You’re like a caged animal, ashland. I know how dangerous that is. Trust me.

Harrison: Father!

Ashland: Harrison. Come here. Come here. Oh. I have missed you so much.

[ Chuckles ]

Michael: This is all academic anyway. When I asked diane to help out with the ashland situation, she turned me down flat. The last thing she wants is to alienate kyle.

Nikki: Really? Hmm, she’s thinking with her head for a change. Will wonders never cease.

Michael: Nikki.

Nikki: Frankly, I would prefer that ashland and diane each decide to leave town on their own. But clearly, they need a little push. Maybe my new investigator will come up with something on diane very soon.

Michael: [ Chuckles ] I still haven’t forgiven you for firing me.

Nikki: Well, you have victor to thank for that. He’s the one that convinced me that you would not be suitable.

Michael: No. Victor loves me.

Nikki: And then there is that minor matter of a conflict of interest, seeing as you befriended that woman for some bizarre reason.

Michael: Even though you booted me off the investigation into her past, the pr firm i hired in los angeles did uncover something about diane before I could call them off the case. Care to know what they learned?

Nate: Imani and I was supposed to have dinner with sally spectra. We were hoping to discuss a way to get elena out of her contract with newman media so she can join us here at chancellor, for our own medical podcast.

Lily: Yeah, I really hope that we can make that work, because aside from needing more podcasts, to have the former face of askmdnow back here would be a huge win. But I assumed amanda could get anyone out of a contract. So is there a problem?

Imani: Well, I’ve been handling it since amanda’s been caught up with our mother since her stroke. But I assure you, I am more than capable of covering this legal negotiation.

Nate: Sally backed out at the last minute, so we weren’t able to broach the subject.

Lily: Okay, so what happened last night? How were you hopeful?

Imani: Well, I was freaking out because I just found out my mom had a seizure, and nate was kind enough to stay and peel me off the ceiling, even though our business meeting was canceled.

Nate: Mostly, I lent a sympathetic ear.

Imani: Sympathetic and compassionate. You eased my concerns more than you know. I stayed up all night researching that rehab center you told me about that’s in virginia, and I think it’s exactly what my mom needs. Now, if I could convince my dad and amanda to consider it, that would be great.

Diane: Why on earth wouldn’t you want me to keep harrison away from ashland?

Michael: For one very good reason — if you were to accidentally slip up and allow ashland to go ahead and visit with harrison, we could catch him violating the restraining order. He may even see time in jail.

Diane: Whose idea was this?! Victor’s? Because it sounds like something he’d think up. Michael, I think it’s unconscionable that you would use that man’s love for his child against him.

Michael: Well, it’s a preemptive move to keep him away from victoria. The family would appreciate your cooperation.

Diane: Oh, please.

Michael: And nikki might even be prevailed upon to drop her investigation into your past.

Ashland: Listen, listen. How about if we go over there and I’m going to buy you an italian ice from that cart? How would that be? I think they might have raspberry, which I happen to know is your favorite flavor. And then I want to hear about all the fantastic things that have been happening in your life since the last time we saw each other, okay? I mean, assuming, of course, we have time.

Diane: Well, why don’t — why don’t I go by the italian ice and you can sit on the bench and talk?

Ashland: Are you sure?

Diane: Positive.

Ashland: Thank you, diane. I really appreciate it.

Diane: Enjoy your time with your son. Harrison, harrison, listen, I’m gonna be right over there at that cart, so I will be watching you the whole time. Be good, okay? I won’t let you out of my sight for a second. Okay? Want your clothes to smell freshly

Nikki: Michael, of course I want to know what your investigator found, so stop being coy.

Michael: Very well. As I myself predicted before I was so unceremoniously dumped from the case, the pr firm couldn’t find so much as a traffic ticket for diane jenkins or taylor jenson as she called herself there. Her record is pristine for the entire time she lived in los angeles.

Nikki: Hmm. Well, you forgot to add “so there.”

Michael: It’ll be on my bill.

[ Chuckles ]

Nikki: [ Sighs ] Of course I’m disappointed to hear that, but rather disturbed at how gleeful you are in passing that information on. Frankly, I think you’re gloating too soon.

Michael: Really?

Nikki: The fact that your investigators didn’t find anything in the short amount of time they looked doesn’t mean there’s nothing there. Knowing diane, it’s buried deep.

Michael: [ Chuckles ] So deep it doesn’t exist.

Nikki: Oh, my god. I was so right to dismiss you, since you were not willing to put the tenacity into finding the truth. I am telling you, diane is a master of covering her tracks. I mean, really, michael, for a man as savvy as you, how can you be taken in like this?

Michael: Do you mean to sit there and claim that in your entire life, you have never once needed forgiveness for anything?

Nikki: I have never don anything that sunk to the level of evil of what diane has wrought on my family and me.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Michael: Hold that thought. Ha.

Nikki: What? What is it?

Michael: It looks as if diane has made one step towards rectifying some of her so-called evil.

[ Chuckles ]

Ashland: Look at how perfect that — look at that. You know, I really wish I could spend more time with you. I really do, but I also know how much fun you’re having in that big, giant abbott house there and how much your father and your stepmom love you.

Harrison: And dee dee.

Ashland: Yes, and dee dee. She loves you, too. In fact, one of the things that makes it easier for me to be away from you so much is knowing that you’re around people who love you and will play with you and take care of you. Like dee dee

[ Cellphone chimes ]

[ Laughs ] Ooh, you got a big one that time. Let’s see. You think so?

Harrison: It’s dark. The light ones are easy. The dark ones are hard.

Ashland: Yeah.

Harrison: But if they’re really light, they’re really hard to see.

Chelsea: Do you want to tell them the news or should I?

Billy: Go ahead.

Chelsea: Billy has asked me to consult on his podcast.

Summer: Wow. That’s — that’s not what I was expecting you to say.

Chelsea: It’s a real kicker, right? It’s totally out of the ordinary, yet still creative. I mean, you couldn’t get further away from the fashion world.

Billy: Are you calling me unfashionable?

Chelsea: No.

Kyle: It’s definitely a twist. We were just getting used to the idea that billy had become a podcast host.

Billy: Yeah, I know. I’m the last person you’d expect to be a self-help guru. I get it. Listen, before I forget, congratulations on making it home and bringing marchetti with you under the jabot umbrella. Fantastic work. I know jack is thrilled to have you and harrison back on home turf.

Kyle: Those two, it’s cute. I’ll come down for breakfast, and they’ve been up for an hour playing games and making pancakes.

Summer: [ Laughs ]

Chelsea: Really adorable.

Billy: Yeah, well, he was missing his grandson like crazy. I’m sure it’s the same with phyllis. She’s happy to have you home from italy.

Summer: For sure. She’s all smiles.

Kyle: Yeah, she’s happy we’re here. Not so much that my mother’s in our lives.

Billy: I can imagine that. But you know me, I’m pulling for diane. As someone who’s had a handful of second chances, I hope that she redeems herself. It’s not going to be easy in this town. She’s got a lot of enemies.

Kyle: They’re judgmental, alright. They have long memories.

Billy: On the flip side, probably not easy for phyllis either. Diane put her through the ringer back in the day. And now you two are stuck in the middle of your two mothers. Not so fun. Believe me, I get it. I have some experience with a mother who’s got a reputation for being difficult.

Summer: I’m impressed. You’re able to see it from all sides and empathize with everyone.

Billy: Yeah, it’s very mature of me, isn’t it?

Kyle: Yeah, it really is.

Billy: Well, sure took me long enough.

Chelsea: [ Chuckles ]

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Kyle: We got to go.

Billy: Is everything okay?

Chelsea: Is something wrong?

Kyle: Sure as hell hope not. If you have age-related macular degeneration,

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Lily: In-patient rehab is a big step. So, I mean, what’s the plan now?

Imani: The plan was for her to have in-home care when she was released from the hospital. That’s what we thought she would want, but now it appears she may need a lot more highly skilled therapy than we realized. Nate helped me to understand this is going to be a long process.

Lily: Wow. I’m really sorry.

Imani: Yeah, and once they realized how serious of a setback this is, amanda and devon ended up spending the night.

Lily: Oh, okay. When was last time you talked to them?

Imani: Well, my dad called this morning, and I had him put amanda on the phone to tell them about the rehab center in virginia and try to get them to at least consider it.

Lily: Think they will?

Imani: It’s hard to say. Amanda’s worried that mom won’t like the idea, and my dad believes that she’ll be more comfortable at home.

Nate: In the short-term, perhaps, but if she wants any reasonable hope of getting her life back…

Imani: Yeah, and after reading up on the place and everything they do, I think she could really benefit from a stay there. She’s going to have to relearn a lot of basics, I’m afraid.

Nate: In all likelihood, she’s going to need intense physical therapy, speech therapy.

Imani: And an aide coming to the house a few days a week, that’s just not going to cut it. But my mom can be stubborn at times, and this place, they have a very strict schedule for the rehab patients, so that could be a conflict.

Lily: I’m really sorry. I know these decisions are really hard and complicated to make.

Imani: Thank you.

Nate: Hey, I offered a suggestion, but everyone has to be on board with it, starting with the patient.

Imani: Well, I feel in my heart this is what’s right for her. Maybe this is my role — to help my dad and amanda see that. I gave them the paperwork, and I’m going to let them review it and I’ll talk to them later about it.

Nate: If they have any questions, I’ll be more than happy to try and answer them.

Imani: That is so lovely of you, nate. Thank you.

Nate: You’re welcome.

Imani: And even if this facility is something we can agree on, just having you there to talk to last night, that really lifted me up.

Nate: Glad I can be useful. Well, the day is young and I have a full inbox. I will see you ladies later.

Imani: Oh, you know what? I should head out, too.

Lily: Oh, imani, actually, can we chat for a second?

Chelsea: Well, I am so excited about this. I could hardly sleep last night. I have so many fun ideas for your podcast.

Billy: Okay, stop right there. It is not my podcast. It is our podcast. You are the co-host.

Chelsea: Okay.

Billy: And enough about this whole consulting thing, alright? Because the only way this works is if we don’t pull any punches. Got it?

Chelsea: Thank you for clarifying.

Billy: Good.

Chelsea: Gosh, it’s just so energizing. You know, it’s such a drastic change of direction for me.

Billy: I hope by drastic, you mean that in a good way.

Chelsea: Of course. No, my instincts are telling me this is exactly what I need.

Billy: And so giving me grief about my take on the world is life affirming for you. Good to know. The choices I’ve been making. You know, I thought I was going in the right direction creatively with my designs, but really I’m just treading water, you know? No wonder chloe was so worried about me. I was so focused on just being back, bringing my a-game, that suddenly it became more about quantity versus quality.

Billy: That’s never a good thing.

Chelsea: I was stuck, you know? I was doing the same thing over and over. Nothing new, nothing fresh was coming to me. So I started procrastinating and I started missing deadlines. Chloe started going bonkers. It really took a strain on our friendship.

Billy: I’m sorry to hear that.

Chelsea: But you know what? Now that I’ve realized all this, it’s been like an awakening. You know, you don’t realize how& good it feels just to let go. To say to the universe, “I surrender.” To just be honest with myself and the world about what it takes to plot a new course.

Billy: I’m very happy to hear you say that, because I had a very similar moment when I decided to go forward with this podcast.

Chelsea: So what are we waiting for? When do we start?

Imani: What did you want to discuss?

Lily: Well, I just wanted to apologize for making you feel pressured about elena’s contract. I don’t want you to think it has to be resolved by some, you know, arbitrary deadline. I mean, we have staff attorneys that can deal with that. So I know that you and amanda are going through a lot right now, and I just want to make sure that chancellor-winters always puts family first.

Imani: Well, there’s no need to apologize, lily. I assure you, I can handle both the workload and my mom’s situation. There’s bound to be ups and downs after my mom’s stroke. And nate caught me at a down moment, and he helped me come to grips with that. I’m so grateful for his kindness.

Lily: Well, good. Well, look, I mean, if you need time off to go be with your family, please do it, honestly, because sometimes these things are easier to work out in person than over the phone.

Imani: I appreciate that. Given the circumstances, I think it’s better for us to divide and conquer right now. Let amanda handle things in person while I take care of things from a distance and pick up the slack here at work, because, quite frankly, all the tension is causing some stress between my sister and me. There are times, I wonder…

Billy: Okay, so this is it. Pretty straightforward. Two chairs, two microphones, and a computer.

Chelsea: I’ll have to learn this equipment.

Billy: Oh, you’re gonna be fine. Why don’t you go ahead and sit there? I’ll sit here just in case i need to do any of the controls.

Chelsea: Sounds good.

Billy: So what do you think? What’s going on? Any thoughts, any ideas come to mind?

Chelsea: Actually, yes. What really struck me last night was this idea.

Billy: Let’s hear it.

Chelsea: Comparing my past to yours.

Billy: Okay.

Chelsea: The con artist and the gambler. Who wouldn’t be intrigued by the story of a long con or a high-stakes poker game?

Billy: Okay, so you want our listeners to be able to live vicariously through our scandalous pasts?

Chelsea: Oh, well, yeah, i mean, a little bit of that, but it’s more about getting past the layer of salaciousness, you know, no superficial entertainment layer, something deeper. The notion that we are all just human beings living a competitive world. You know, sometimes bluffing our way to the top, and sometimes that takes risks. It takes cheating. Both are about winning. Just not fair and square.

Billy: And so a life of addiction and crime is actually easier to get ahead.

Chelsea: No, that’s not what I’m saying. That’s my whole point. I just think of myself back in the day, you know, I had the mindset of identifying someone else’s weaknesses and preying on them. You know, people think that that’s going to make it easier to get to the top, but, really, that’s just a mirage. They think they’ll only have to do half the work, but really it just makes them spiral into a pit. They just dig themselves deeper and deeper into misery and despair.

Billy: So you think we can use our stories, our past to — to find a deeper truth?

Chelsea: Absolutely. Absolutely. But we have to be honest about our past, what we’ve done, and how we’ve grown, how we’ve changed. I think the key is — and you mentioned this earlier — we can’t let each other off the hook. You know, we can’t let each other gloss over any missteps or make excuses. We have to call each other out. Because who better to know when a con artist or a gambler is cheating —

Billy: Than a former gambler and con artist. Yeah, no, I get that.

Chelsea: Seems like you’re still skeptical.

Billy: No, it’s good. I’m just wrapping my head around it. I think what I hear you saying is it takes one to know one. Is that the vibe?

Chelsea: Exactly. Because think about it — no one has a crazier history than the two of us. The listeners are going to eat it up.

Imani: I am so relieved you and my dad were able to mom to go. This is the best possible choice for her, you know? Yeah, I’m glad we could agree on this, amanda. No, how about we check in about work later? Yeah, everything’s okay. I got this. In fact, lily said you could take whatever time you need to help mom make the transition. Okay. Alright. I’ll talk to you later. Give mom and my dad my love. Okay. Alright, bye.

[ Sighs ]

Nate: Hey, imani. I’m sorry. I couldn’t help overhearing. Was — was that amanda?

Imani: Yeah.

Nate: Is everything okay?

Imani: It’s better than okay. We’ve all decided that mom, she goes to the rehab place in virginia.

Nate: Okay. I hope I didn’t push you in a direction you weren’t comfortable with. With the facility out of state, it’s — it’s got to be a tough call.

Imani: Not in this case. I feel strongly that this is what’s right for her. I gave them the information and some time to process it all, and they came up with their own conclusion that this is what’s best for her.

Nate: Yeah, it’ll benefit naya to have full-time care from professionals who specialize in stroke recovery. You did your family a good service right here.

Imani: Thank you for saying that. This whole situation is just — it’s tough. I know I should feel relieved, but I’m just so scared.

Nate: Hey, none of this is easy, okay? It’s gonna be okay. With depression, you just feel…blah.

Ashland: That sounds like the most fantastic race car I’ve ever heard of. Did you say it was yellow? Oh, man. And do you have a track for that car? Is there, like, little houses and little buildings and — and roads and bridges and —

Nikki: Oh, my god, what is he doing with him?

Michael: Nikki, the police will be here any minute.

Ashland: Man, you’re lucky.

Chelsea: I’m sensing some ambivalence. You don’t like my idea?

Billy: No, I love the idea. I do. It’s just —

Chelsea: Uh-oh.

Billy: No, it’s not a bad thing. I think I just have to remind you that people are going to hear this, you know, and you might not want everyone to hear it. For instance, connor. I thought long and hard about johnny and katie, and I went over this extensively with lily before I even put out the first episode.

Chelsea: Well, I have thought about it, and the truth of the matter is, everyone in this town already knows my history. And as far as connor goes, I’ve told him everything. I had no choice. I had to because we went to see anita.

Billy: Oh, my gosh. Are you kidding me? What, was she reliving the old days?

Chelsea: Yeah. Every chance she got.

Billy: In front of your son?

Chelsea: Oh, the woman has no shame. She spent hours regaling to my child every story of every scam.

Billy: That sounds lovely.

Chelsea: It was horrifying. It really was. Anita kept telling me that I was being an “uptight goody two shoes,” pand I needed to lighten up a little bit.

Billy: No cooperation there.

Chelsea: Oh, zero. But — but I decided to turn the situation around and use it as a teaching moment for myself.

Billy: Okay. How so?

Chelsea: Well, I just told connor. I was like, you know, “people have skeletons in their closet. It does not define them for the rest of their lives. You can turn things around and you can be a good person and make better choices.” And I also made sure I didn’t glamorize the things I did with anita. I told him I hurt people. I caused people pain. And I’m not proud of that.

Billy: Good job. Way to go.

Chelsea: That’s kind of what I’m hoping we can say to the world with our podcast.

Billy: In a fun, exciting, non-dour way, of course.

Chelsea: Exactly.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Billy: Let me take this real quick.

Chelsea: Of course. Please.

Billy: Hey, babe.

Lily: Hey. Where are you?

Billy: I am in the studio with chelsea, just spitballing some ideas.

Lily: Oh, nice. How’s it going?

Billy: It’s going fantastic. Thank you.

Lily: Good, I’m glad. Look, don’t forget to schedule that meeting with the vp of purchasing at amalgamated. You said that you would take that off my plate.

Billy: Got it. No worries.

Lily: Okay. Thank you.

Billy: Alright, we’re wrapping up. I love you.

Lily: Love you, too. Oh, actually, before I forget, I just want to — billy?

Chelsea: So? My concept is go?

Billy: I think we’re a go. Yeah, I think it’s great.

Chelsea: Yes. I’m so excited. I’m even more excited than before. I didn’t know that was possible.

Billy: That’s good. Good. Energy, excitement, sincerity — those are things that you cannot fake. Scratch that. You can fake them. But an astute audience is going to know the difference and they will disengage, which is the kiss of death when you’re podcasting.

Chelsea: Good to know. Okay, well, I should let you go. You have another job, right? As a coo.

Billy: I got time and we’re on a roll. I don’t want to lose any momentum.

Chelsea: What do you propose?

Billy: Let’s put one down. Let’s see what we got.

Ashland: Harrison, I have to go. I’m sorry. But dee dee has your italian ice. Can you give me one last hug? Come on. One big hug. Giant hug. Oh-ee! Ah.

Diane: Come on, harrison.

Ashland: You almost broke me in half there.

Diane: Come with me. Come on.

Ashland: Oh.

Kyle: Hey, where the hell do you think you’re going? And where’s my son?

Next week on “the young and the restless”…

Adam: You are standing between me and everything that I want.

Nikki: If we all pooled our talents.

Ashley: Maybe we can get diane out of our lives.

Phyllis: Forever this time.

Victor: No one breaks my daughter’s heart and gets away with it. No one!

Allie: Hi.

Noah: Oh, there she is, Jabot’s number-one new intern.

Allie: Oh, stop. I just started. It is too soon to say that.

Noah: Well, I got confidence in you. How was your first day?

Allie: Oh, my gosh, it was so fantastic. I loved, loved, loved orientation. They were so thorough.

[ Sighs ] I can’t wait to start working on the projects in the lab.

Noah: Yeah, I mean, sounds exciting. Chemicals and beakers and all that stuff.

Allie: You have not done chemistry since high school, have you?

Noah: No, no, I have not, but I’m trying my best to act like i know what I’m talking about, so if you can just play along, that would be great.

Allie: Okay, okay, well, I am super excited to get practical experience with everything i learned in school. So I’m interested in discovering how science is done in an academic setting versus how it’s done in…

[ Sighs ] I’m sorry.

Noah: What, why are you sorry?

Allie: Here I am going on and on about my fun new internship, and I know you’re not really feeling fulfilled with your career at the moment, so…

Noah: That’s true, but there’s no need to apologize. You know, it’s good that you’re so excited about your new job. That’s what we all want, right? Matter of fact, I think we should celebrate. Would you want to go to dinner with me?

Allie: Oh, sure, yeah, but we could just get something here. I really need a muffin —

Noah: No, Allie, I — I mean like a real dinner.

Allie: Noah Newman, are you asking me out on a date?

Noah: I mean, we — we don’t have to put a label on it if you don’t want to call it that. I just think that we should commemorate your success, and i want to thank you for listening to me about my dilemma with my dad. Talking it out really helped.

Allie: Good, I’m glad. Have you come to a decision? Are you still thinking about leaving New Hope?

**********************

Ashland: You know, in all my years of experience, I’ve found the man who was stripped of everything is the most dangerous.

Victoria: Is that a threat?

Ashland: It’s an observation.

Victoria: You walked in here so calm and deferential ’cause you wanted us to grant you a favor, but now that my father’s refused you, you’re baring your teeth?

Ashland: I’m just saying, if you kick a dog enough times, eventually he will bite back.

Victor: If anyone in my family is bitten by your damn dog, I will kill you myself. Now get out of my sight.

Summer: I know a little boy who cannot stop talking about wanting to spend more time with you. Hope your new job doesn’t keep you too busy for playdates with Harrison.

Diane: Oh, that all depends on my bosses

Traci: Hey, Allie. Listen, it’s such a beautiful day out, I think I’m gonna go out in the garden and do some writing. Would you care to join me? Allie?

Allie: Oh, hey, Traci. Sorry. I didn’t know you were here.

Traci: Wow. You were a million miles away.

Allie: Yeah. I get into this hyperfocus mode when I read. I’m sorry.

Traci: Oh, don’t apologize. That’s a fantastic quality in a person. In fact, I owe my entire career to good readers. So, tell me, what has your attention?

Allie: Well, my internship at Jabot starts this afternoon. It’s just orientation, but I wanted to prepare.

Traci: So, you have already started doing research. Wow. At that rate, you’re going to be on the board of directors by next week.

Victoria: You’re not welcome here.

Ashland: I figured that. Regardless, I have some things to say.

Victoria: This is one of your stunts. You’re trying to shake me up, rattle me. It’s not gonna work. You know, I really would’ve hoped by now you would’ve learned not to underestimate me.

Ashland: No, believe me, i will never make that mistake again. But I do feel you owe it to me to at least hear me out.

Victor: We don’t owe you a damn thing, ashland locke. I don’t think you have anything ofnterest to say to either me or victoria.

Victoria: Actually, I’m intrigued. There’s nothing left for you in genoa city, so I want to know why did you come back?

Adam: Look, I’m not gonna stand by and allow you to be used as a pawn in another round of the newman power plays.

Sally: Well, I appreciate that, but I’m a little troubled by what you just said, that you’re gonna find a solution and I don’t know want to know how. I — I don’t like the way that sounds.

Adam: Well, I didn’t mean to alarm you. You know, I just got a little worked up. Using hyperbole to prove a point, that’s all.

Sally: Are you sure? ‘Cause you were just talking about getting revenge on your family. I’m just really concerned where that could lead you.

Adam: You have nothing to worry about. Okay? My temper just got the best of me today, that’s all. I have no plans to get myself in troublE.

Sally: Does that mean you plan on getting someone else in trouble?

Adam: I just want you to focus on being ceo of newman media.

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Adam: You’re gonna have to trust me that I’m gonna do what’s right. I’m gonna find a solution that works for everybody.

Sally: I do trust you. I’m just having a little trouble envisioning what that solution could be because victor and victoria have never considered me a valuable part of newman media. They have only tolerated me because you want me here, and nick and nikki aren’t allies. So there’s gonna be nobody in the executive suite clamoring for me to stay on as ceo. It just doesn’t look good.

Adam: I know the value you bring to this company, okay? You belong in that chair, and i am gonna do whatever it takes to keep you in that chair. It’s where you belong.

Sally: What about where you belong?

Allie: Hi.

Noah: Oh, there she is, jabot’s number-one new intern.

Allie: Oh, stop. I just started. It is too soon to say that.

Ashland: Well, I came back here to genoa city to collect my things, the personal items i believe you had boxed up.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] Seriously?

Ashland: Yeah. They have enormous sentimental value to me. I cherish them.

Victoria: I had those things moved into a storage unit. I’ll just text you theinformation so that you can retrieve them.

Ashland: I would appreciate that.

Victoria: And once you do, you can take your little knickknacks and you can leave town.

Ashland: Oh, believe me, i plan to.

Victor: Ashland, you didn’t come here to pick up a damn box. Why are you really here?

Ashland: I want you both to hear what I have to say.

Victor: I’m listening.

Ashland: Well, first of all, I want you both to know that i understand there’s no coming back from what happened. And I want to commend you both. After all these years, you managed to achieve something that many have tried to do and failed — you took me on and you beat me at my own game. Want your clothes to smell freshly

Noah: I’ve given it a lot of thought, and I think leaving new hope is the best move for me. Now I just have to figure out how to talk to my dad about it.

Allie: Well, you two are so close. I’ve got to believe that he’s gonna understand.

Noah: Yeah, I think he will, but it’s complicated.

Allie: I get it. He has no idea this is coming, so… what are you gonna do?

Noah: I think I’ll stay on at new hope for now, until he gets settled in at the new job or until I find a quality replacement. I don’t want to undermine his decision to go back to newman enterprises. It was a pretty big deal for him.

Allie: That’s really considerate of you.

Noah: And I also don’t want to give my parents another reason to worry, because they will. I can already hear, “oh, he left new hope, he’s directionless, he’s lost.” I’m getting kind of tired of all that. I mean, I could be 50 years old, on top of the world, and they’d still be like, “noah, we’re really not sure about your life choices.”

Allie: You know they only do that because they love you so much, right?

Noah: Yeah, yeah, you’re right. I’m lucky to have them. But you have got off-topic.

Allie: Oh?

Noah: Yeah, you distracted me with all this conversation of new hope, my parents, my poor life choices. All I really wanted to know was if you’d go to dinner with me.

Allie: Right, about that…

Noah: No pressure. I just want to know what you think.

Allie: I would love to go to dinner with you, noah.

Adam: You forgot that i actually excel at creating new opportunities for myself.

Sally: I know. But what could you possibly do that would be more meaningful? You created newman media. This is your baby, much more than it is mine. Look at everything you’ve accomplished. Think of all the possibilities the future holds.

Adam: And that is why you are the one that deserves to run this company. You have such enthusiasm. Still embracing all that potential that we created, despite whatever challenges are gonna come your way.

Sally: Yeah, I mean, I’ve never been one to let chaos stop me from going after what I want. Something we have in common.

Adam: Yes. But I don’t want to run this company, okay? Things are different now that I’ve been kicked out of the top spot of the empire yet again. It’s more about just succeeding at business. I can’t go back to being under victor’s thumb, answering to victoria. She’ll never trust me.

Sally: And you think she’ll trust me to run her media division?

Adam: I will convince her.

Sally: How?

Adam: You said you believed in me.

Sally: Absolutely. But I wouldn’t mind a detail or two.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Okay, look, you may have committed some sins in your past, but right now you’re guilty by association, and that is not fair. So I’m gonna convince victoria that I’m no longer any part of this.

Sally: I’m still not sure what that means.

Adam: Just know that I am gonna do everything to persuade victoria that you should be judged solely on your merits, of which there are many. You are extraordinary in every way. Do you believe me now?

Sally: [ Chuckles ] I think we should get out of here so I can show you just how much I love you.

Victoria: I have to say, i didn’t really expect you to admit defeat like that. It’s not like you have another move. You’ve lost.

Ashland: As anyone who’s listened to the most recent “grinning soul” podcast already knows. I assume you were the source who told him about my cancer.

Victor: You mean your make-believe cancer, right?

Victoria: Well, as you know, the truth usually has a way of revealing itself.

Ashland: Yes, it does. I just didn’t expect this truth to come out in this way. I assumed you would hang onto this chip to keep me at bay.

Victoria: Well, initially, i thought that was the best strategy, but after hearing the podcast, I was actually glad that information was out there so that the whole world knows exactly who you are. You have no more power. And if you were even thinking about going on the attack, i would forget it if I were you.

Ashland: I didn’t come here for revenge.

Victor: Really?

Ashland: Yes, I mean that.

Victor: Hmm.

Ashland: In fact, I came here hoping that you would show me a bit of mercy before I leave genoa city.

Victoria: What could we possibly do for you?

Ashland: I would like to have one last visit and a final goodbye to my son.

Victor: You mean kyle’s son.

Ashland: Yes, I won’t fight you on that, but you know how much he means to me. It would mean everything if i could just see him one more time.

Victoria: Your relationship with harrison is not my concern anymore, ashland.

Ashland: I understand that. But we all know that victor orchestrated the restraining order. And so, victor, you are the only one who could lift it. Two phone calls. One to the judge, one to kyle. Please. You’ve taken everything else away from me. Can’t you just give me this? Here’s liz, whose bladder leaks drop in uninvited.

Victor: Look, ashland locke, after all the damage you have done to our family, the pain you have caused my daughter, the heartache, the deceit, you belong behind bars.

Ashland: I’m asking father-to-father, victor.

Victor: Oh, don’t give me that nonsense. Why the hell would I allow you to be anywhere near that boy? You’re a monster.

Ashland: I came in peace. I will go quietly. You’ll never see me again.

[ Sighs ]

Noah: So what time do you want to eat?

Allie: Okay, I have to be honest, I did not eat anything today.

Noah: Could you not find the cafeteria?

Allie: No, I could find the cafeteria. I was just so nervous and excited for my first day that i could barely eat anything. The point is, I’m really hungry.

Noah: Okay, so sooner rather than later — I can do that.

Allie: Okay, so I will go home and change and then I’ll meet you there.

Noah: I mean, I’d rather do the gentlemanly thing and pick you up at the abbott house.

Allie: Okay. That works. Okay, so then give me a little bit of time, and then I will see you soon.

Noah: Okay.

Allie: Okay. Okay.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Sharon: Oh, I was just coming to see if you and allie wanted something to eat.

Noah: Oh, she had to run home.

Sharon: Do you want something?

Noah: No, I’m good. I’m actually about to head out myself.

Sharon: You got plans?

Noah: As a matter of fact, i do. Allie and I are going to dinner.

Sharon: Mm, well, that explains that smile.

Noah: [ Chuckles ] Celebrating her first day at jabot.

Sharon: Oh, I didn’t know she worked there.

Noah: Yeah, in the lab, putting that chemistry degree to work.

Sharon: Oh, well, she must be thrilled, and you two will have a lot to talk about now that you have an expanded role at new hope.

Noah: [ Chuckles ] You overheard us, didn’t you?

Sharon: Yes, I did. I didn’t mean to, but, yes. Noah, I heard you talking about leaving new hope.

Noah: And, what, now you’re worried I’m going in the wrong direction. -Fixed. -That’s my son.

Sharon: I’m not judging your decision to leave new hope. I just — I’m trying to understand.

Noah: I haven’t made a final decision yet.

Sharon: But you are leaning in that direction, right?

Noah: Yeah.

Sharon: Hmm. Well, when I saw the look on your face when your dad was talking to you, I couldn’t tell if you were apprehensive or you were just disinterested in taking on a bigger role, but I’m surprised that you want to leave new hope altogether. I thought you liked it there.

Noah: I do, but I love all the work the organization accomplishes. It was really nice to be a part of that.

Sharon: But?

Noah: I feel like an outsider there. It’s dad’s passion project. It’s not mine, but he’s counting on me and I don’t want to disappoint him.

Sharon: I think that he’s gonna be thrown to hear that you don’t want to work there anymore, but I — the only way you would ever disappoint him is if you continue to bottle up your feelings. There’s no way he would want you to stay on there out of some obligation to him. In that kind of work, to be successful, you really have to have your heart in it.

Noah: I agree, but unfortunately, that doesn’t make me feel any less guilty. Dad, he needs me to take over. And if I left now, there’d be twice as much work. So I’ll stay on now until he gets comfortable at the new job or until I find a quality replacement.

Sharon: Everything is gonna work out and new hope will go on, no matter what.

Noah: Thank you for saying that. But if you can, please keep this between the two of us, at least for now.

Sharon: Of course. I just want you to be happy. What do you think would get you there? What are you looking for?

Noah: I don’t know. I’m trying. There’s something out there for me, I know it.

Sharon: Something out there. Would you leave genoa city again?

Noah: No. I’ve got way too many reasons to stick around.

Allie: Hi, traci.

Traci: Hey. Wait, wait, wait! I’m dying to hear how your first day went.

Allie: Oh, uh… it was so amazing. But it was just orientation. And, you know, there’s not much to tell about it.

Traci: Oh, well, I-I get the feeling that you’re trying to rush upstairs.

Allie: Oh. Sorry. Um… noah asked me out to dinner, and I just have to get ready before he gets here.

Traci: I see.

Allie: I have to goet ready.

[ Both laugh ]

Traci: Okay. That’s why you’re more cited than just about jabot. And I’m so glad that you’ve been able to find this lovely friend in noah.

Allie: Thanks, traci. This is, uh — this is pretty fancy for us. We usually just hang out, so…

Traci: Oh. Sounds kind of like a proper date. I see. Okay. That’s how it is. All right. No, we can talk about jabot just any timE. You go on upstairs and get ready for your date. Go on.

[ Chuckles ]

Nick: You got a lot of nerve returning to town, let alone this office. If you were smart, you’d walk out that door and never come back.

Ashland: Nice to see you, too, nick. And you’re right. Coming here was clearly a mistake.

Nick: I knew he’d show up here. What did he want?

Victoria: Everything’s fine.

Nick: That’s not an answer.

Victor: The bastard expected us to help him.

Nick: What did he want?

Victoria: He wanted to arrange a visit with harrison.

Nick: Why would he show up here asking for that?

Victoria: Look, I told you already. I don’t want to waste any more energy on ashland, okay?

Nick: Vic, I still have questions.

Victoria: Well, dad can fill you in later. Right now, and more importantly, I nt to know how your recon mission went with sally.

Nick: [ Sighs ] Not like I expected.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Traci: Mm.

Allie: Traci.

Traci: Yeah.

Allie: Does this look all right?

Traci: Oh, my goodness. It’s perfect. You look just beautiful.

Allie: This is one of the dresses that summer foisted on me. I don’t usually dress like this.

[ Both laugh ]

Traci: Well, you wouldn’t know it to look at you. It looks perfectly natural.

Allie: Thanks, traci. You always know what to say.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Noah: Wow. You, uh… you look great.

Allie: Yeah. So do you. C-come in.

Noah: Yeah.

Allie: Yeah.

Traci: Hey, noah.

Noah: Hey, traci. It’s good to see you.

Traci: Thank you. You too. And you guys look so cute. I should be, like, taking photos or something.

Allie: Oh, please don’T.

Noah: Starting to feel like prom.

Traci: Yeah. Hey, are you sure that you want to go to dinner now?

Noah: Early-bird special for this one.

Allie: I’m really hungry.

Traci: Okay. Don’t let me get in your way. Come on. You guys go, go, go and have a really, really great time. Have fun, honey.

[ Chuckles ]

Victor: Why did you see sally spectra?

Nick: I went to see sally to get information about adam, to see if he was serious about leaving newman.

Victor: I see.

Nick: I never actually spoke to sally, though, because I ran into adam first. He didn’t offer up anything, but honestly, he seemed far more interested in sally’s fate. He really wants her to keep her job.

Victoria: And you told him that I didn’t see a future for her at newman media, didn’t you?

Nick: He was being up front with me. I saw no reason to keep that information from him.

Victor: Well, now, victoria and I disagree on that. I think allowing sally spectra to stay on will ensure the fact that adam would come back, right? Where’d you leave things with him?

Nick: Adam wants to speak to victoria directly. He seems to believe that you two can come to some sort of arrangement.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Victoria: That’s him. He wants to meet.

Victor: I bet that means that he’s willing to come back as ceo of newman media, provided that sally stays on as coo.

Victoria: Well, it’s just as likely that he wants to meet to tell me that I should keep sally as ceo.

Victor: Well, let’s find out. , No matter what type of dog you have…

Sharon: Hi, traci. Good to see you.

Traci: Hi, sharon. How are you? You know, I know how difficult these last few months have been for you.

Sharon: Yeah. It gets a little better each day, but I really appreciate you checking in with me any time I see you. You know, things move so fast around here, it’s really nice when somebody remembers rey, so thank you.

Traci: Of course, I think of you. In fact, I just saw noah.@@ He came by the house to pick up allie.

Sharon: I think the two of them actually have their first official date tonight.

Traci: They are so adorable. It’s just ridiculous. You know, she’s — she’s really shy and quiet, and that all goes away when she’s around noah. I think they really have a connection.

Sharon: I agree with you. I noticed he’s genuinely happy every time I see him with her. And that’s all I want is for him to be happy.

Traci: [ Chuckles ]

Sharon: Do you want your usual order?

Traci: Yes, please.

Sharon: Okay.

Traci: Sharon, you sure you’re okay?

Sharon: Yeah, I’m fine. I just — I’m worried about noah. Not his personal life. I think allie’s wonderful.

Traci: Okay. What’s left to be concerned about?

Sharon: Well, when noah came back from london, he was so lost. But he really managed to turn things around and I thought he had finally settled into a career path and found his way. But now I’m not so sure.

Allie: [ Sighs ]

Noah: Oh, okay. Cool. My dad and grandfather are here. That is the perfect atmosphere for a date.

Allie: Well, abby does own the place, so I guess neither of us should be surprised to see family here.

Noah: Yeah, I guess not.

Allie: You want to go somewhere else?

Noah: No, no, it’ll be fine. We’ll just get a table very, very far away.

[ Chuckles ] We should go say hi first, though.

Allie: Okay. Sure, definitely.

[ Indistinct conversation ]

Noah: So they’ll just let anyone into this place now, huh?

Victor: Noah, my goodness. How are you, old boy?

Nick: Allie, how are you doing?

Allie: Great to see you, nick.

Noah: Grandpa, this is allie nguyen.

Victor: A, yes. Are you jack abbott’s granddaughter?

Allie: Yes, I am.

[ Chuckles ]

Victor: Well, I won’t hold that against you.

Allie: I’ve heard stories about the abbotts versus the newmans.

Victor: Some of them actually true. Would you like to join us for dinner?

Noah: Oh, that’s very kind, grandpa, but I —

Nick: Yeah, dad, I’m sure the last thing he wants to do is hang out with his old man and his grandpa tonight.

Noah: Thank you for the invitation, but I think we’re gonna get our own table.

Nick: Hey, before you go and order dinner, pretend like we’re not here…

Noah: What’s that?

Nick: We haven’t told your grandfather the big news yet.

Victor: Which is?

Nick: Since I’m coming back to newman, noah is gonna be taking on more of a leadership role at new hope.

Victor: Oh, well, that’ll be a good experience for you.

Nick: Speaking of which, I have some things I need to forward to you that need to be handled A.S.A.P.

Noah: Yeah. Okay, I’ll make sure it gets handled.

Nick: Everything alright?

Noah: Yeah. Yeah. We’ll talk later, okay? We just want to go grab our table.

Victor: Noah, you know your grandfather’s a big spender, so dinner’s on me.

Noah: Thank you, grandpa.

Victor: Nice meeting you.

Allie: Lovely meeting you guys.

Victor: Alright.

[ Knock on door ]

Adam: You got a minute?

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Not much more than that. I’ve been playing catch up these days, so if you can get right to the point, it would be much appreciated.

Adam: Sure.

Victoria: Let me guess. You’re here because you’ve changed your mind and you want to go back to running newman media.

Adam: [ Sighs ] That ship has sailed. I’m here because I know you want to fire sally.

Victoria: Well, she wasn’t exactly qualified to be coo. I think as ceo, she’ll be a little out of her depth.

Adam: Well, that’s actually not true. She more than proved herself as my partner. We ran newman media, and I have all the confidence in the world that she could lead that division to new heights. And no one will work harder than her.

Victoria: Well, as talented as she may be, there are bigger issues at play.

Adam: You mean my relationship with her?

Victoria: You and I both know that it would delight you for things to go wrong at the company. And clearly, sally wants to make you happy. I mean, it would certainly be an incentive for her to do a less than great job as ceo.

Adam: Victoria. Look, I know that you view me as a threat and you have to look at sally the same way. But I would argue you should give her more credit than that. She’s her own person. She’s not an extension of me, and she has no interest in tanking newman media. She’s actually eager and building a good reputation in the business world.

Victoria: Are you sure about that? I did my due diligence. I looked into that fashion house that she ran in los angeles. You know, she pulled a lot of stunts that gave her a terrible, terrible reputation.

Adam: Yeah, well, she’s matured and changed. She wants to put that behind her.

Victoria: That’s so funny, because people used to say the exact same thing about you and — and look at you now. So you can’t blame me for being skeptical.

Adam: Sally is not a hardened cynic like me. Her transformation is genuine. So this fear of her is misplaced, victoria.

Victoria: Scared? I’m not scared of sally. I simply want people that I can rely on in key roles in this corporation. People that I know that I can trust.

Adam: Look, sally is very conscientious, and she’s hard working and, yes, reliable. I’m telling you, you give her a chance, she will surprise you.

Victoria: How am I supposed to do that when her primary loyalty is to you?

Adam: Victoria, you don’t have to worry about that. You don’t have to worry about my influence on sally anymore.

This is john. Heart, and I don’t think his

Sharon: I know he’s an adult,

Sharon: I know he’s an adult, but I still worry about noah.

Traci: Well, you’re his mother. Of course you do. That’s kind of what you’re supposed to do.

Sharon: Yeah, I just feel like he needs some guidance.

Traci: Yeah, I understand. You know, noah is an artist at heart, and I don’t think his path is ever going to be straight and clear, like a lot of his peers, including his family. I know a little about that. Take a look at me. I mean, I figured out that i could write when I was in school, but how long did it take me to realize I could make a career doing that? I think noah may have to just sort of explore a few things, you know, until he finds that perfect thing that makes him the happiest. He is such a smart and talented young man. He is going to find his way.

Allie: Can I ask you something?

Noah: Oh, about the menu? Crab enchiladas is the way to go.

Allie: No, not about the food. When your dad brought up that new hope business, you didn’t hesitate to say that you’d take care of it. Noah, are you having second thoughts about stepping away?

Noah: No. It’s just… I don’t want to talk about that. Tonight is about you. I just want to celebrate your exciting new internship at jabot and not worry about anything else.

Victoria: So you’re saying that you no longer have any influence over sally, your partner?

Adam: That’s right.

Victoria: You know, I just don’t know why I would believe that she would prioritize newman’s interests and my expectations over her feelings for you.

Adam: Well, you should believe it, because there is no sally and adam anymore. It’s not working out, so I’m breaking it off. It’s over.

Sally: Adam? Are you here?

[ Sighs ]

Nick: Any word from adam or victoria?

Victor: No.

Nick: I really hope they can come to some understanding. But the thing that concerns me the most is whatever it is ashland’s up to right now because he cannot be trusted.

Victor: You know he’s out for revenge. You know that. The question is, how long will he stay in genoa city?

Nick: He should already be gone.

Victor: He shouldn’t have been back here in the first place.

Nick: Well, we need to tell kyle and summer that he’s back in town. They need to be on the alert.

Victor: I couldn’t agree with you more. Who knows what that son of a bitch is up to next? We got to stay vigilant.

Ashland: [ Sighs ]

[ Sighs ]

[ Exhales sharply ]

Victoria: The symbol on the ring is a crest of a scottish lord named roger loch. I know it’s not your given name, but I think that it represents who you are now.

Ashland: You — you researched the name and then tracked this down?

[ Sighs ]

Victoria: Hmm.

Ashland: [ Chuckles ] I will cherish this forever. There are a dozen reasons that i don’t deserve your love, but i thank god every day that you came into my life.

[ Crying ]

[ Sniffles ] Ahh! Ahh! Ahh! Ah! Ah! Ahhhh!

[ Breathing heavily ] Ah!

[ Grunts ] Ah! Ahhh.

[ Grunts ] Ah! Ah!

[ Breathing heavily ]

Recap written by Christine

Phyllis caught Ashland as he skulked around Chancellor Park, and she asked why he was still in town. He told her to beat it, and she refused, since she was allowed to be here. He conceded he didn’t get to decide who came to the park or much of anything else these days. Phyllis said she might throw Victoria a party to celebrate her getting rid of Ashland. Phyllis realized Ashland must be here waiting for Harrison. She asked if he was planning to violate Kyle and Summer’s restraining order. He asked who appointed her the town police – he was just walking in a park and he had every right to be here. She listened to the Grinning Soul, and she was appalled by his cancer scam. He found it ironic that so many people with sordid pasts thought they had the right to judge him. He didn’t see why it was so terrible that he wanted to catch a glimpse of his son at a distance. She said she’d call Harrison’s parents if he violated the restraining order. She felt he and Diane had crossed a line they could never come back from. “You people have no mercy!,” he yelled. He didn’t see why it was so bad that he and Diane wanted to have a relationship with that sweet child. Phyllis accused Ashland of spinning out like a caged animal. She knew how dangerous that was. She left. He sank onto the bench and put his head in his hands. “Father!,” an excited Harrison yelled as he and Diane arrived.

Diane watched from a distance. She looked troubled, but made no attempt to intervene when Harrison ran to Ashland, or when Ashland scooped the boy up into his arms. Ashland told a white lie that he didn’t visit Harrison because he’d been busy with work. Ashland said he might have to leave again soon, so he was glad he was seeing Harrison right now. Diane flashed back to Michael asking her to let Ashland visit Harrison so they could catch him breaking the restraining order. Diane had balked about using Ashland’s love for his son against him. Michael said it was a preemptive move to keep Ashland away from Victoria. He told Diane that the Newmans would appreciate her cooperation, and Nikki might even be prevailed upon to drop the investigation into Diane’s past. In the present, Ashland wanted to buy Harrison an Italian ice from a nearby cart. Diane walked up and said she’d buy it while Ashland and Harrison talked. Ashland tearfully thanked Diane, and she told him to enjoy his time with his son. Diane told Harrison that she’d be watching him the whole time, so he should be good. He nodded.

Nikki grabbed coffee to go at Society, and she ran into Michael, who invited her to join him. She told him Ashland was back and that he came to Victoria’s office and asked Victor to lift the restraining order for Harrison. Michael already knew, because Victor texted him about it. Nikki didn’t like the idea of Ashland being around Harrison. Michael was hoping Ashland defied the restraining order. Nikki demanded an explanation. Michael said this was part of a contingency plan he and Victor came up with to have Ashland arrested for violating the order. Michael had asked Diane to help. Nikki thought that was a terrible idea, because Diane wasn’t trustworthy. “How can you put that child at risk?,” Nikki asked. Michael said Diane was Harrison’s grandmother, and she’d never put him at risk. Nikki didn’t think Diane had a protective bone in her body.

Michael said Diane refused to help, because she didn’t want to alienate Kyle. Nikki said Diane was thinking with her head for a change. Nikki hoped her investigator would help her find something on Diane that would drive her out of town. Michael said he hadn’t forgiven Nikki for firing him. She said Victor convinced her Michael wans’t suitable for the job. “No, Victor loves me,” Michael replied. Nikki added that there was a conflict of interest since Michael had befriended that woman for some bizarre reason. Michael said the PI firm in LA that he hired discovered something about Diane before he pulled them off the case.

Nikki said of course she wanted to know. Michael said, as he predicted, the PI firm found that Diane, or Taylor Jenkins, had a pristine record. Nothing so much as a parking ticket. Nikki was disturbed at how gleeful Michael was. She said that just because his firm didn’t find anything in the short time they searched didn’t mean anything wasn’t there. She didn’t understand how a man as savvy as him could be taken in like this. He asked if she’d never once needed forgiveness. She said she’d never done anything as evil as what Diane had done to Nikki and her family. Diane texted Michael that Harrison and Ashland were together at the park. Michael triumphantly told Nikki that Diane had made a step toward rectifying some of her so-called evil.

Back at the park, Ashland said that while he wished he could spend more time with Harrison, he knew Harrison was having fun at the Abbott house and that his father and stepmom loved him. Harrison added that Dee Dee loved him too. Diane overheard Harrison and smiled. Michael texted back that he’d alerted the police. He told Diane to keep Ashland there.

Nate was in Lily’s office. He showed her pictures of Elena sightseeing in Hawaii after a successful presentation at the conference. Imani entered, then apologized for interrupting. She heard about the pictures and asked to see, so Nate showed her. Imani said it looked like Elena didn’t have a care in the world. Lily was sure Elena missed Nate. Lily was sorry Nate had to miss the trip because of work. Imani was glad Nate stayed because he was a huge help to her last night. Lily asked how. Nate explained that they were going to meet with Sally to try and get Elena out of her contract with Newman so she could do a medical podcast for Chancellor Winters. Lily hoped they could make that work because they needed more podcasts and having the face of AskMDNow back would be a huge win. Lily thought Amanda would be able to get anyone out of a contract. Imani said she hadn’t discussed it with Amanda, because she was busy dealing with their mom’s health issues. Nate continued that Sally backed out of the meeting. Imani said she freaked out last night over her mom’s seizure, and Nate peeled her off the ceiling and eased her concerns. She spent all night researching that rehab facility he told her about in Virginia. Now she just needed to convince her dad and Amanda to go along with it.

According to Imani, Amanda and Devon spent the night where Naya was. Last night, Nate had made Imani see that Naya had a long road to recovery and that an inpatient rehab was for the best. Imani talked to her family last night, and her father thought her mom would be more comfortable at home, and Amanda didn’t think Naya would like the idea of going to rehab in Virginia. Nate said that the rehab would increase Naya’s chances of getting her life back. Nate thought Naya would likely need intense physical and speech therapy. Imani said an aide coming to the house a few days a week wouldn’t cut it. Imani had learned the facility kept a strict schedule, and since Naya was stubborn, that could be a conflict. Lily was sorry – she knew how difficult this could be. Nate said the whole family had to be on board, starting with the patient. Imani was going to try and talk everyone into it, and even if that didn’t work, she appreciated having Nate there last night to lift her up. Lily seemed to observe the way Imani talked about Nate.

Nate decided to leave, and Imani was going to head out too, but Lily kept her behind for a chat. Lily was sorry if she pressured Imani about Elena’s contract. This company put family first, Lily said. Imani said there was no need to apologize. She was sure she could handle the workload and her mom’s situation. She said Nate helped her. Lily offered Imani time off with her mom. Imani thought it might be best to let Amanda handle things in person while Imani handled stuff from a distance and picked up the slack at work. Imani said the tension was causing some stress between her and her sister.

Imani went to Crimson Lights and talked to Amanda by phone. She thanked Amanda for convincing their mom to go to rehab. Amanda asked about work, and Imani said it was under control. Nate arrived, and Imani filled him in. he hoped he didn’t push her too far by suggesting a facility out of state. She thought this was just what Naya needed. He said Imani did her family a good service by convincing them to send Naya there. She was near tears, and she admitted she was scared. He held her and said it would be okay.

Chelsea met Kyle and Summer at Dive Bar. She broke the news that she wouldn’t be able to accept their job offer. Summer said that if this was about money or creative control, they could work something out. Chelsea said she realized she’d jumped into a stressful environment way too quickly. She said it was one thing to go back to a fashion platform that was already up and running, but it was with Adam, so he was her boss, her ex, they were co-parenting – it was too much. Summer thought that was part of the reason Chelsea was happy at Fenmore’s without Adam. Chelsea said she was, but she and Chloe had to deliver a whole new line in record time, and the chaos and pace caught up to her, and she had personal issues she had to deal with. She was glad she recognized it before she destroyed her friendship with Chloe. Summer and Kyle were understanding. They assured Chelsea that the offer was on the table if she ever wanted it and that they’d help if she needed it. Chelsea saw Billy show up. She said she already had something that would keep her busy.

Billy joined the group, and Chelsea said he asked her to consult on his podcast. That wasn’t what Summer was expecting. Chelsea said it couldn’t be further from the podcast world, yet it was still creative. Billy congratulated Kyle and Summer on making it home and bringing Marchetti with them. He was sure Jack and Phyllis were happy. Kyle added that Phyllis wasn’t happy Diane was back. Billy was pulling for Diane and hoped she’d redeem herself, which wouldn’t be easy in this town with all her enemies. Kyle said people were judgmental. Billy said it probably wasn’t easy for Phyllis either, because Diane put her through the wringer back in the day. Billy knew it must be hard for Kyle and Summer to be stuck between their mothers. He had some experience with that, as he had a mother with a reputation for being difficult too. Summer was impressed Billy was able to empathize with everyone. He replied that it took him long enough to mature. Michael texted Kyle about Harrison and Ashland being together. Kyle told Summer they had to go, and they rushed out.

Nikki and Michael showed up at the park, and he had to stop her from running to separate Ashland and Harrison. At that point, Diane returned with the Italian ice. Ashland tensed up when he saw that he was caught. Ashland got one last hug from Harrison and handed him off to his grandmother. Diane took Harrison out of the area. He tried to leave, but Nikki and Michael walked over, and Kyle and Summer approached from the other direction. Kyle demanded to know where his son was.

Chelsea had so many fun ideas for Billy’s podcast. He said it was their podcast. Her instincts told her this was what she needed. “So giving me grief about my take on the world is life-affirming for you. Good to know,” he quipped. She said it actually was, because by critiquing his self-analysis, it forced her to reflect on herself. She’d thought she was going in the right direction with her designs, but she was actually just treading water. No wonder Chloe was so worried, Chelsea said. Chelsea had been so focused on staying on her A game that it suddenly became more about quantity vs quality. She said she was stuck doing the same thing over and over, and nothing new was coming to her, and she started procrastinating and missing deadlines which drove Chloe bonkers and strained their friendship. Realizing all that felt like an awakening to Chelsea. He was glad to hear her say that because he had a similar moment when he decided to go forward with the podcast.

Billy took Chelsea to the recording studio. She thought their listeners would be intrigued if she and Billy told shared their past as a gambler and con artist. She said it would be about getting past the layer of salaciousness and exploring the notion that they were all just humans living in a competitive world. She said they’d have to be honest in what they’d done and how they changed, and the key was that they had to call each other out and they couldn’t let each other off the hook.

Chelsea sensed ambivalence in Billy. He said he loved the idea, but he wanted to remind her that Connor would hear this. He’d thought long and hard about Johnny and Katie and he went over it extensively with Lily before he put out the first episode. Chelsea already told Connor about it. She said she had no choice but to tell him because they went to see Anita. Anita had spent hours regaling Connor with stories of every scam. Chelsea was mortified and her mother kept telling her to lighten up. Chelsea had turned things around and used it as a teaching moment for Connor. Lily called Billy, and he told her he was in the studio with Chelsea. Lily told Billy not to forget about a meeting he was attending in her place. He said he’d handle it, then he said he loved her. Lily had something else to say, but Billy had already hung up.

Nick: Yeah, that’s more like it.

Victoria: But I like it very much that she’s interested in the family business. I’d love to see the next generation getting involved and coming up through the ranks. If I’ve learned anything this past year it’s that the leadership of this company needs to stay in Newman hands.

Recap written by Christine

At the Newman Media office, Adam told Sally that he wouldn’t let her be a pawn in the Newman power play. She appreciated that, but she was troubled by him saying she didn’t want to know what his solution was. He said he was just being hyperbolic. She was still worried because he’d just talked about getting revenge on his family, and she was concerned about what would happen to him. He promised he he had no plans to get himself in trouble. She asked if that meant he planned to get someone else in trouble. He wanted her to focus on being CEO and trust him to find a solution that worked for everyone. She did trust him, but she didn’t understand what the solution would be, since no one in the Newman Enterprises executive suite was on her side. He held her and emphatically stated that she belonged in that chair, and he’d do whatever it took to keep here there. She asked what about where he belonged.

Adam said he excelled at creating opportunities for himself. Sally knew, but she wasn’t sure what would be more fulfilling than running Newman Media, which was his baby, more than it was hers. She saw so much potential in the division. He said she had such enthusiasm for the company, and that was why she deserved to run it. He didn’t want to run the company anymore – things were different now that he’d been kicked out of the top spot of the empire. He couldn’t go back to being under Victor’s thumb and answering to Victoria, who’d never trust him. Sally was sure Victoria would never trust her to run the media division. He said he’d convince Victoria. She wanted to know how. He reminded her that she said she believed in him. She did, but she wanted some details. He said that Sally committed some sins in her life, but right now, she was guilty by association, and that wasn’t fair. He was going to do everything to persuade Victoria to judge Sally solely on her merits, because she was extraordinary in every way. He kissed her and asked if she believed him now. She wanted to go somewhere else, then show him how much she loved him. Sally and Adam got a room at The Grand Phoenix, and they had a love scene. Afterward, she was asleep, and he stroked her hair and stared off into the distance, then he got out of bed.

At the Newman CEO office, Victoria told Ashland he wasn’t welcome. He claimed to have something to say. She thought this was an attempt to rattle her, and she told him he should know not to underestimate her. He said he’d never make that mistake again. He felt that they owed it to him to hear him out. Victor said he and Victoria didn’t owe Ashland a thing, but, Victoria admitted she was intrigued. Ashland said he was here to pick up his personal items. She seemed skeptical, but she said she’d text him the location of the storage unit, then he could take his knic knacks and leave town. Victor was sure that Ashland wasn’t here to pick up a damned box. Ashland wanted to say he knew there was no coming back from what happened, and he also wanted to commend Victor and Victoria for doing what many had tried and failed to do – they took him on and beat him.

Victoria wasn’t expecting Ashland to just admit defeat like that. She said he didn’t have another move, and he lost. He said everyone who heard The Grinning Soul knew that. He assumed she was the source of the details about his cancer. Victor corrected Ashland that the cancer was fake. Victoria said the truth usually had a way to reveal itself. Ashland had thought that Victoria would hold onto that information to keep him at bay. She said while that was her initial plan, after she heard the podcast, she was glad the information was out there. She told him to forget about going on the attack, if that was his plan. He said he didn’t come here for revenge. He was hoping they’d show mercy and get him one last visit and final goodbye to his son. Victor said it was Kyle’s son. Ashland didn’t argue the point, but the boy meant everything to him. Victoria said Ashland’s relationship with Harrison wasn’t her concern anymore. Ashland knew that, but he said Victor orchestrated this, and all he’d have to do was call the judge and Kyle. “Please. You’ve taken everything else away from me,” Ashland said. Victor felt that Ashland belonged in prison after all his lies and deceit and the pain he caused Victoria. Ashland said he was asking father to father. Victor contended that Ashland was a monster. “Why the hell would I allow you to be anywhere near that boy?” Ashland said, in his experience, the man who was stripped of everything was the most dangerous. Victoria said Ashland walked in so calm and deferential, and now he was baring his teeth. Ashland was just saying that if a dog was kicked enough times, eventually it would bite. “If anyone in my family is bitten by your damn dog, I will kill you myself,” Victor warned. Ashland said he’d leave quietly and he wouldn’t come back. Nick arrived.

Nick told Ashland that the smart thing to do would be to leave and never come back. Ashland agreed that it was a mistake to come. He left. Nick slammed the door, and he wanted to know why Ashland came. Victor caught Nick up. Nick had more to say, but Victoria didn’t want to discuss it anymore. She wanted to know how his recon mission went with Sally. Victor asked why Nick went to see Sally. He said he went to get information about Adam. Nick never saw Sally, because he ran into Adam, and he was eager for Sally to keep her job. Victoria asked if Nick told Adam that she didn’t see a future for Sally at the company. Nick had been upfront with Adam, since Adam was being upfront with him. Victor thought that allowing Sally to stay on would ensure Adam’s return. Nick said Adam wanted to talk to Victoria. At that moment, Victoria got a text from Adam. Victor thought that meant Adam was willing to be CEO of Newman Media, while Sally stayed on as COO. Victoria said it was just as likely that Adam wanted her to keep Sally on as CEO. Victor was ready to find out.

Adam showed up at Victoria’s office. She was alone, and she said she was busy, so she asked him to get right to the point. She assumed he wanted to go back to running Newman Media. He said that ship sailed. He was there because he knew she wanted to fire Sally. Victoria thought Sally was unqualified to be COO and that she’d be out of her depth to be CEO. Adam said Sally proved herself as his partner, and no one would work harder than her. Victoria said as talented as Sally might be, there were bigger issues at play. Victoria thought that Adam would be delighted if things went wrong at Newman Enterprises and since Sally wanted to make him happy, she had the incentive to do a bad job at Newman Media. Adam said Sally was her own person, and she had no interest in tanking Newman Media – she wanted to build a good reputation in the business world. Victoria had looked into the fashion house Sally used to run in LA, and she’d learned that Sally had pulled a lot of stunts that gave her a terrible reputation. Adam said Sally matured and changed. Victoria recalled people used to say the same thing about Adam, but look at him now. Adam said Sally wasn’t a hardened cynic like him; her transformation was genuine. He said Victoria’s fear of Sally was misplaced. She said she wasn’t afraid of Sally; she just wanted people she knew she could trust. He said sally was contentious, hardworking and reliable. He wanted her to give Sally a chance. She asked how she was supposed to do that when Sally’s primary loyalty was to Adam. He said he no longer had any influence over Sally. “There is no Sally and Adam anymore. It’s not working out so I am breaking it off,” Adam said. Back at the hotel, Sally woke up and reached for Adam and found an empty mattress. She called out for him.

Allie met Noah at Crimson Lights on the patio after her first day at the Jabot internship. Today was orientation, and she just loved it. She was bubbling over with excitement, then she apologized because she was going on and on about her internship when he wasn’t fulfilled with his job. He said there was no reason to apologize. He asked her to dinner to celebrate. She said they could just eat here, but he clarified that he meant a real dinner. She asked if he was asking her on a date. He didn’t think they needed to label it. He just wanted to commemorate her success and thank her for listening to him talk about his dilemma with his dad. Sharon was just outside the patio door, cleaning a table. She overheard Noah tell Allie that he’d decided to leave New Hope. Sharon walked away.

Back on the patio, Noah was sure Nick would understand, but this was complicated. Noah thought he’d stay on at New Hope until he found a quality replacement or until Nick was settled at his new job. Noah didn’t want to undermine Nick’s decision to go back to Newman. Allie thought Noah was being considerate. Noah also didn’t want to give his parents another reason to worry that he was lost or directionless. He said he could be 50 years old, on top of the world, and they’d still worry. She said his parents did that out of love. He agreed and said he was lucky to have them. He said she got him off the topic of whether she’d go to dinner with him. No pressure. She said she’d love to.

Allie had been too excited about work to eat earlier, so she was really hungry. She said she’d go change, then meet him. He offered to be a gentleman and pick her up, and she accepted. Right after Allie left, Sharon came out. She and Noah started chatting about Allie and the dinner and jobs, and it soon came out that she overheard his conversation with Allie. She said she didn’t listen on on purpose, but she heard him say he was leaving New Hope. He thought she was worried he was going in the wrong direction. She wasn’t judging, she just wanted to understand. He said he hadn’t made up his mind, but he was leaning toward leaving. She noticed that he didn’t seem enthusiastic when Nick was talking to him earlier about taking on a bigger role, but she was surprised he wanted to leave New Hope altogether. She thought he liked it there. He did like it there, but he felt like an outsider there, because it was his dad’s passion project, not his. He didn’t want to disappoint his dad. Sharon thought Nick would be thrown by Noah’s decision, but he wouldn’t be disappointed unless Noah bottled up his feelings. She was sure Nick wouldn’t want Noah to stay out of obligation. She said you had to have your heart in this work to be successful. Noah reiterated his plan to stay on until Nick was comfortable at his new job or until Noah found a quality replacement. He asked his mom to keep this between them. She said of course. She just wanted him to be happy, and she asked what he thought would get him there. He wasn’t sure, but there was something out there for him. She asked if he’d leave town. He said he had too many reasons to stay in town.

Allie went home and Traci wanted to talk about the internship. Allie explained she was in a rush because Noah asked her out to dinner. She smiled when Traci said it sounded like a date. Allie came downstairs in one of the dresses Summer had given her to wear earlier. She asked Traci if she looked alright, and she noted that she didn’t always dress like this. Traci gave Allie her seal of approval. Noah showed up, and Traci said they both looked cute.

Traci went to Crimson Lights and asked Sharon how she was – she knew the last few months had been difficult. Sharon said things had been a little easier each day. She appreciated Traci checking in with her every time they saw each other. It was nice to have someone remember Rey. They segued into a conversation about Noah and Allie’s date. Traci said that Allie was quiet and shy, and it went away when she saw Noah. Sharon said that Noah seemed genuinely happy when he was with Allie. They thought Noah and Allie had a connection. Sharon got quiet because she was worried about Noah. She’d thought he settled into a career path and found his way, but now she wasn’t so sure.

Sharon and Traci got a table. She said she knew Noah was an adult, but she still worried about him. Traci thought that was what a mother was supposed to do. Traci said Noah was an artist at heart, so his path might not ever be straight and clear. She said she figured out she could write when she was in school, but it took longer to realize she could make it her career. She thought Noah might need time to explore things, and he was such a smart and talented young man that he was going to find his way.

Noah and Allie went to Society. He was a little deflated because his dad and grandfather were there, and that would put a damper on the date atmosphere. Allie said they could leave. Noah said they’d just get a table far away from his relatives, but first they’d go say hi. Noah introduced Victor and Allie. Victor smiled and said he wouldn’t hold Allie being Jack’s granddaughter against her. She laughed and said she’d heard the stories of the feud. Victor invited Noah and Allie to join them, but Nick knew that Noah and Allie would want their own table. Nick shared the news that Noah was going to take over New Hope. Victor thought that would be good for Noah. Nick had some New Hope business to forward to Noah. Noah said he’d handle it. Noah was kind of quiet, and Nick asked if everything was okay. He said he and Allie just wanted to get to their table. Victor said he’d cover dinner for Noah and Allie, and Noah said thanks.

At their table, Allie noticed that Noah didn’t hesitate to promise to take care of the New Hope business. She asked if he was having second thoughts about stepping away. He looked over at his family and said he didn’t want to talk about it. He wanted to focus on celebrating her tonight.

Nick told Victor that Ashland couldn’t be trusted. Victor knew Ashland was out for revenge. The question was how long Ashland would stay in Genoa City. Nick said they needed to tell Kyle and Summer Ashland was back. Victor agreed and said they had to stay vigilant.

Ashland was in his suite at the Athletic Club. He had a drink, then he went through the belongings Victoria had packed up for him. He found the ring she gave him for Valentine’s day, then he flashed back to the moment she gave it to him. He’d promised to cherish the ring forever. In the present, Ashland wept, then he threw the ring across the room. He proceeded to trash the room, screaming as he hurled things into walls.

Lauren: Ooh! I can’t wait to be wowed by your latest designs. Do not keep you waiting another second.

Chelsea: Okay. Um… I don’t want to burst your bubble, but there aren’t any designs.

Lauren: [ Laughs ] Wait. Are you joking? But there are deadlines to be met. There are wheels in motion. Everyone is waiting for your designs for your line.

Chelsea: I’m sorry, truly, but I have to take a sabbatical from designing. I dove back in too deep, too fast. And I have to put my mental health before my job.

Billy: Whether it’s a business, a friendship, or a romantic relationship, to me, the key to a successful partnership is compromise and balance — supporting the other person while being honest about each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Now, let me be very clear. I’ve had a few partners who were not shy about pointing out my numerous flaws, and it’s not fun in the moment at all. But ultimately, I do believe that it is a good thing.

[ Button clicks ] What do you think?

Lily: I mean, I love it. I think it’s great.

Nate: Yeah. I won’t be bringing up elena’s weaknesses anytime soon.

Devon: Do you do that with lily?

Billy: No, of course not. Look at her — she’s perfect.

Lily: Hello.

Devon: Yeah. I love it. I really liked it. It’s a good episode. It had good energy, and it was funny.

Billy: Well, I’m glad you’re saying that, because there’s something else I want to play for you here. Elsea and I accidentally kept recording, and I want you to hear that.

Chelsea: Partnersp, huh? Well, you were talking about me.

Billy: No, I was not.

Chelsea: You clearly were.

Billy: Look, not everything is about you.

Chelsea: Oh, okay, okay. So now you’re criticizing me for being self-centered?

Billy: It’s not always easy inhe moment, is it? But you got to believe it’s a good thing.

Chelsea: Well, I’m not sure yet, because I’m still in the moment.

[ Button clicks ]

Nate: That’s just more evidence that honesty isn’t always the best policy.

Lily: No, I disagree. I think it’s crucial.

Devon: Well, I mean, it sparks debate. It does. But why did you — why’d you play us that last part?

Billy: I think there’s something there. The camaraderie, the back-and-forth, the give-and-take — that’s what engages with audiences.

Lily: Wait. Are you suggesting that you and chelsea do the podcast together?

Imani: Hi. Yes, this is imani benedict. I wanted to confirm a dinner reservation for tonight. For two. Great. Thank you.

[ Knock on door ] Oh. Hey.

Amanda: Hey, I missed you at the office, so I brought up some contracts that we really need to review. Oh, I’m sorry. Is this a bad time? Are you going out?

Imani: Oh, um, yeah, but not out out.

Amanda: Okay. What does that mean?

Imani: I’m going to a dinner. A work dinner, actually. Nate and I are meeting with sally spectra at society to discuss getting elena out of her newman contract.

Amanda: Huh. Well, this is the first time that I’m hearing about this. Did you take this upon yourself to set this up?

Nick: Kids were surprised I decided to come back to work here.

Victoria: In a good way, I hope.

Nick: Oh, yeah. Faith told me that as soon as she graduates college, she’s gonna be coming after my job.

Nick: Well, with ashland gone, it’s a new era.

Victoria: Yes. And I don’t think we ever have to worry about him being in the position where he can attack the business again. His credibility is shot.

Nick: Did you hear the podcast exposing ashland for lying about having cancer?

Victoria: I have.

Nick: The grinning soul really went after the jugular.

Victoria: In my opinion, they didn’t go far enough.

Nick: I’m concerned about how ashland is going to react. You know, if he hasn’t heard the podcast yet, he certainly will. And I’m sure he’s going to think you’re responsible.

Victoria: I’m not really worried about that nicholas. He’s ruined. And the more that story gets out there, the more the whole world is gonna know what a lying monster he really is.

Nick: You don’t think you can bounce back from this?

Victoria: No, he’s dead in the business world — and to anyone with any scruples.

Nick: If I were you, I wouldn’t be so cavalier about it. Ashland is not the kind of person who’s just gonna fade out of the picture.

Victoria: Nicholas, why are you still so worried about him?

Nick: Dad thinks ashland is discreetly making his way back to genoa city.

Billy: The man lied about having cancer to his own family, to his wife, to his young son. Ashland locke let his son believe that he was going to die. And for what? A business deal.

[ Knock on door ]

Adam: Open it up, ashland.

Ashland: How did you find me?

Adam: Well, give me a little credit. I may be going to war with victor, but I’m still my father’s son.

Ashland: Meaning you know how to get things done.

Adam: Look, you may be wanting to keep a low profile, but you’re not gonna be able to hide in genoa city for long. My father will soon find out where you are, if he hasn’t already.

Ashland: What do you want?

Adam: Well, the question on everyone’s mind is, what do you want?

Sally: New developments here. Call me. Mr. Newman.

Victor: Ms. Spectra, please have a seat.

Sally: What brings you by?

Victor: You and I need to clear up a few things. Well, now, let me see this. Hmm. (Denise) my husband has lung cancer

provided by… my blood pressure is borderline.

Nick: Dad has michael baldwin keeping close tabs on ashland. He found out that ashland booked a charter out of new york into chicago just after you walked out on him.

Victoria: Dad already told me. Ashland is free to go wherever he wants. If he wants to slither back into town, I don’t care. There’s nothing that ashland can do to hurt me again.

Nick: I wouldn’t be so sure about that. You should have a security detail just in case.

Ashland: You already asked me why I was back in town when we ran into each other at the coffee house.

Adam: Well, I feel like i didn’t get the real answer, ’cause there’s no way you came back to town just to get your belongings from victoria’s place. You could have sent for someone to do that. And you still have a restraining order against you regarding harrison.

Ashland: Which is completely unjust, thanks to your father’s vendetta against me.

Adam: Mm-hmm. He is relentless about going after his enemies. So you would be a fool to break that. So I expect you are back for payback, which you alluded to during our last encounter.

Ashland: You’re making an awful lot of assumptions.

Adam: I also don’t think it was a coincidence we ran into each other. I think you sought me out.

Ashland: Really? At crimson lights. I mean, how on earth could I possibly have known the moment that you would decide to get a cup of coffee?

Adam: Oh, I’m sure you have your ways, just like I have mine.

Ashland: And why the hell would I want to spend any time with you?

Adam: Because you wanted to let me know that we were of like minds when it comes to victoria. And I have to say, after our chat, I was a little intrigued.

Ashland: Oh, so you’re after something similar, as I suspected. You must still be smarting from the humiliation of losing that ceo position so quickly before you even had a chance to close a deal or — or file a quarterly report.

Adam: You know, before i knocked on that door, I could have swore I heard you listening to the grinning soul podcast. I mean, that probably upped your wrath a few notches.

Ashland: Yeah, I’m pretty sure victoria was behind that.

Adam: Yeah, that’s probably a good guess.

Ashland: You still haven’t answered my question. Why do you care so much about what I’m feeling? And don’t tell me it’s because you want to protect your sister. I highly doubt that’s the case.

Adam: Okay. Seems like we’re being candid here, so I will be straight with you. I hated what you did to my family back when I cared about being part of my family. And since then, they have made it crystal clear that I am dispensable, and I’m sick and tired of being pushed aside and used. So I’m finally done with every single one of them.

Victor: You know what my son is planning as his next move?

Sally: I don’T.

Victor: I suggest you not lie to me.

Sally: Mr. Newman, I am not lying.

Victor: Are you aware that i asked him to stay on at the helm of newman media?

Sally: Yes.

Victor: Are you also aware that he turned me down?

Sally: He filled me in on that development.

Victor: You know, of course, that he and I created newman media and that he made it the entity it is now, a force to be reckoned with. You know that, no?

Sally: Yes.

Victor: And are you also aware that, of course, you have no experience in this field at all? None. Nothing in your background suggests that you know what you’re doing.

Sally: With all due respect, lots of people make career jumps. The truth is, the skill set it takes to be successful in fashion and run a fashion house, which I’ve done, is translatable. I’m the ceo of newman media not because I’m adam’s girlfriend but because he believed in my talent and my ability. And I am willing to prove that to you and anyone else that has doubts.

Victor: You want to prove yourself to me? You convince adam to return to his rightful position as ceo of this company. How did olay top expensive creams?

Chelsea: I wasn emotionally or psychologically ready to start designing again. And I think it’s catching up with me.

Lauren: And where’s chloe in all this?

Chelsea: We’re dissolving our partnership. Lauren, it was my idea, so it was very important to me. I wanted to be the one to tell you.

Lauren: Well, I don’t want to seem harsh or uncaring, and I’m sorry that you’re struggling. But I took a chance on you, despite our past differences. And fenmore’s has been awaiting your full winter line in the next couple weeks.

Chelsea: I know. And I hate that I couldn’t live up to my end of the bargain. Trust me, I hate it. But I do have a solution pending. I have a designer friend in new york. He’s willing to step in for me and finish the winter line.

Lauren: Who?

Chelsea: Mark paulsen.

Lauren: Oh. Yeah, I — I know him. I guess that could work, not that you’re giving me much choice.

Lauren: Your permission pending, I have caught him up to speed. He knows everything about the line, and he’d be able to step in for me. I think he’d be able to do a really good job.

Lauren: Well, I guess we can try it. And I hope this transition is as easy as you’re making it sound.

Chelsea: I really think it will be.

Lauren: Well. I know you’re doing this for your emotional well-being, and that’s something that I would always support.

Chelsea: Thank you.

Lauren: Is there anything I can do for you?

Chelsea: Thank you. I really appreciate the offer, but — [ Breathes deeply ] — This time, I think I have to learn to heal by myself.

Lily: Wait. I thought chelsea was gonna give off-camera feedback. Now she wants to be on-air talent?

Billy: Well, I haven’t run it by her yet. I wanted to touch base with everyone here, but I think that there’s something there. And, you know, that was us not trying. I’m hoping that if we actually tried, it would be even better.

Devon: Well, I’d like to hear specifics on how you think it would work.

Billy: Okay. In my estimation, I think it’s still my podcast, but I have someone there to hold me accountable, you know? To call me out on my stuff. And the truth is, chelsea and i have both messed up in life, but it’s made us resilient, and we bounce back. And, you know, I think we can keep it fun. We can keep it light and not so dour.

Lily: Oh, god, I’m never gonna live that down.

Billy: No, it’s a good thing. I think it’s a good thing because, you know, the truth is, it was hard to hear, but there’s a problem, and now I’m trying to solve it.

Devon: What did she say? Did she say your podcast was depressing?

Billy: Oh, yeah. In not so many words.

Devon: Well, thank god.

Lily: Oh, “thank god” — you hear that? See?

Billy: What?

Lily: See?

Nate: I’m glad someone finally said it.

Billy: E you kidding me? Why would you guys not say anything? Okay, look, forget that. It’s not easy to hear in the moment, but it’s a good thing. That’s what I’m sticking with.

Devon: It is. No, it really is. I like this chelsea ea.

Nate: Podcasts with multiple hosts usually outperform podcasts with single hosts.

Billy: There you go.

Nate: What do you think, lily?

Lily: I mean, I think it’s interesting. I guess let’s, uh, give it a trial run.

Billy: Okay, good. I think that’s good. Now I just have to try and convince my partner. My co-host.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Imani: I meant to tell you, but it just happened so quickly. Nate asked if I could help to bring elena on board at chancellor-winters, and it was your turn to visit mom at the time. I didn’t think it was a big enough deal to bother you.

Amanda: Okay. Well, I don’t have any plans tonight, so why don’t I join you?

Imani: Oh, that’s really not necessary. It’ll be a no-brainer thing. I think nate will do most, if not all, the talking with sally, and I’ll just take a back seat

it doesn’t feel like we’re ganging up on her. I’ll really just be there to point out any potential legal ramifications. Seriously, not a big deal.

Amanda: Are we really back to this?

Imani: Back to what?

Amanda: Back to you, finding every excuse to spend time with nate, especially when elena’s out of town.

Adam: Well, I guess we’re in a similar boat after all. I mean, we may not have gotten there the same way, but I know far too well the frustration that you’re feeling. I know what it’s like to be pushed aside. Not good enough for the newmans. I mean, victoria told you in no uncertain terms that she will never forgive you. I know how much that must hurt.

Ashland: You have no idea what I’m feeling.

Adam: Hey, come on. You got to give me a little credit. I actually believed you loved my sister, which makes me the only person on the planet that believes you actually felt remorse. I mean, in your own way, but what did it get you? Your remorse got you nothing, like me and my family loyalty got me nothing. Because my family holds themself to one standard and us another.

Ashland: They’re a bunch of hypocrites.

Adam: So?

Ashland: So… you do want the same thing I do.

Adam: To see our enemies taken down? Where do we start?

Victoria: Look, nicholas, I really do appreciate your concern for my well-being, but you do understand that dad has that under control, don’t you?

Nick: Of course he does.

Victoria: In fact, I think I saw two guys from his private security team following me earlier.

Nick: Well, it might seem creepy to you, but it’s actually a huge relief to me.

Victoria: I really don’t know how it makes me feel other than I’m tired of thinking of ashland. So can we please move on? Now that you’re back at newman enterprises, the two of us, along with mom and dad, we’re gonna accomplish some amazing things. To that end, I would really like to concentrate more on our streaming platforms. Oh, and folding chanccomm into newman media in a more cohesive way. Sally and adam kind of left too many aspects of that up in the air.

Nick: Yeah, I’ll put that at the top of the agenda.

Victoria: Good. But I think we also need to take a proactive measure, and now that adam has chosen to move on, I think it’s time that ms. Spectra follows suit.

Nick: You want to fire sally? This is john.

Victoria: Firing sally is a perfectly reasonable option. She was never qualified to be coo, and now we want to trust her to run newman media all on her own? And on top of her lack of experience, she’s proven from her past actions that she can’t be trusted.

Nick: I can understand why you want to let sally go. But I don’t know. So soon after adam’s unceremonious exit, it might be a harsh one-two punch.

Victoria: I’ll offer her an impressive severance package to cushion the blow. Look, nicholas, to be frank with you, I want to surround myself with people that I can rely on, people that are loyal to me. And sally and adam do not fit that description. I know dad is still holding out hope that adam will stay on board, but I have decided that no matter what adam chooses to do, I do not want him here at newman.

Nick: Well, I don’t disagree with you on the trust factor. How about this? Why don’t I go to sally? Kind of feel her out. You know, get some reconnaissance about our brother. See if he is really, truly walking away, because then you won’t have to step in unless necessary.

Victoria: That would be very helpful and savvy. Thank you. I’m glad we’re on the same team working together.

Nick: Me too.

Sally: Mr. Newman, adam chose to walk away. Why can’t you accept his decision?

Victor: Ms. Spectra… I know you have influence over my son, okay? So you convince him to come back here and assume his proper role as ceo of newman media. Okay?

Sally: I have a feeling this is something I shouldn’t refuse?

Victor: You have a nice day.

Sally: Adam, it’s me. I just had a visit from your father.

[ Sighs ] Call me back. We need to tk.Al

Ashland: I get that you’re angry at your family, but are you really ready to commit to this?

Adam: I want them to be sorry the way that they turned their backs on me. I want them to regret the way that they’ve treated me. So the easiest way for me to achieve that is for you and I to help each other. Because I have something that you need. Someone who understands the newman mindset. Somebody that is on the inside.

Ashland: But you’re not on the inside. You said so yourself. You’re dispensable. So how could you possibly help me if you’ve been pushed out?

Adam: Because I know how the family operates. Years of combat has taught me how to wound them. You see, I know the pressure points to work on my father and my sister. So you can do whatever you want with that information. But if you’re smart, you will use it to take down victoria and hurt my father. So if that’s your plan, I’m in 100%. Meet febreze’s miracle spray: Febreze fabric refresher.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Imani: Enough, amanda. You actually think that I would put the moves on nate in the middle of an important business dinner with the head of a rival company? That is crazy. So please stop telling me how to behave and trying to control me.

Amanda: That is not what I am doing.

Imani: Maybe you’re trying to make up for the years you lost being a big sister, but I’m telling you, this is not the way to do it.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Amanda: Is everything okay?

Imani: It’s from my dad. It’s about mom.

Amanda: What happened?

Imani: She had a minor seizure and she wants to see you. You should go, okay? Go tonight.

Amanda: No, no, I just — I just got back. You should go, if you —

Imani: Amanda, she’s asking for you.

Lily: Okay. So I think we should go over the budgets for each division this week, and then I will work on the chancellor side.

Devon: Okay. Nate and I will get our numbers together.

Nate: I will jump into it tomorrow morning. I’ve got to run to a dinner meeting with imani and sally spectra in a few. Hopefully we’ll be able to get elena a release from her newman media contract.

Devon: Good, good. Before we take off, though, i want to bring up one more thing. Lily, do you think that it’s the best idea for billy to be focusing on these podcasts when our newly merged company is just finding its footing?

Lily: I thought you were on board with billy’s ideas.

Devon: Yeah, no, I am on board. But he rushed out of here before the meeting was over, and I’m worried about how much energy it’s taking up and what it’s taking away from.

Nate: He was just excited. That’s what makes the podcast worth listening to.

Devon: Yeah, it’s — it’s not his enthusiasm that’s a problem. I’m glad that he has that because we need content since we promised to release dozens of new series. I just don’t want the podcast to get in the way of him being your coo.

Lily: I mean, I don’t — i don’t think that they are. Actually, today’s episode set record numbers.

Devon: I don’t think that’s accurate.

Lily: Well, not that podcast, his other podcast. Now that we’ve merged companies, you’re gonna find out soon enough, so I’ll just tell you. Billy is “the grinning soul.”

Devon: So the attack on ashland that’s getting all that traction is billy?

Lily: Yeah. So I’d actually argue that he’s doing as much as we are to contribute to the success of chancellor-winters.

Lauren: Oh, hey, billy. I heard your latest podcast.

Billy: Oh, okay. Well, just before you finish that thought, let me just tell you that I’m working on a few things. It’s a work-in-progress, you know, always evolving.

Lauren: Aren’t we all, honey?

Billy: Yeah.

Lauren: Nice to see you.

Billy: Good to see you, too. Hi. Thank you so much for sticking around. I hope this is okay.

Chelsea: What’s up? Ready to try out another podcast on me?

Billy: Well, funny you should say that, because I want to run something by you.

Chelsea: I’m all ears.

Billy: Okay, so you know yesterday how we ended up continuing recording the podcast? Accidentally, of course. Well, it was so interesting to me that I ran it by the powers-that-be at chancellor-winters.

Chelsea: I don’t remember what I said. Did I step on some toes?

Billy: Well, you did, but they were mine and it was entertaining. And so this is what I’m thinking. You are at a crossroads in your life, and my self-help podcast needs a little self-help. So I’m wondering if there’s an intersection where those two worlds can come together.

Chelsea: What are you saying?

Billy: What do you think about becoming my co-host?

Adam: So does it feel good? You know, stepping in to replace me? Coming back to the corporate world you supposedly hated?

Nick: Believe it or not, adam, my career change has got nothing to do with you. But it was your choice, right? Unless you’re having second thoughts about that.

Adam: I’m more interested in why you’re here. You are not looking for me, obviously. Do you have some business with sally? Is there a problem? Because if there is, I would really like to know because I care about sally and this job means the world to her.

Nick: I have a feeling if you don’t come back to newman media, vick’s gonna fire sally. After years on the battlefield

Victoria: Thank you, robin. I appreciate you making the changes. I’m signing off on it right now. Okay. Thank you.

Victor: Well, now, I, for one, am not going to get tired of watching you work any time soon.

Victoria: Well, I have to say, it feels good. Feels like I picked up right where I left off. And you don’t have to worry. Newman is in good hands.

Victor: I know.

Victoria: I’ve already made some very important decisions, and I am hoping to set everything right again, starting with sally spectra. She needs to go.

Victor: Oh, well, not so fast, okay? I think she is essential for a while.

Look, I know victoria would not like me back at the company in any capacity, but it’s really — it’s not fair to fire sally just because she is romantically involved with me.

Nick: Vick doesn’t feel like she’s the right fit for the job.

Adam: Despite the stellar work that she’s been doing?

Nick: Adam, I don’t know anything about her track record, but I’ll bet you, youif came back to newman media, nobody would have a problem if sally slid right back into her coo role.

Adam: Okay, well — well, i would have a problem with it.

Nick: Would it be that awful to work with the family?

Adam: [ Sighs ] Look, I have a thought. What if I come back to the company as coo of newman media? That way, sally can stay where she is.

Nick: Won’t fly with vick. She wants someone more experienced.

Adam: Hmm. And who isn’t sleeping with me.

Nick: She didn’t say that.

Adam: Yeah, but we both know that is the issue for her. Look, before you say anything to sally, will you just let me talk to victoria first? Will you just give me that?

Nick: Alright, adam, done. I’ll make sure nobody talks to sally until the morning.

Sally: I thought I heard you out there. Who were you talking to?

Devon: Well, I can’t argue with the metrics of “the grinning soul.”

Lily: Yeah, I mean, the ashland locke episode’s on track to be our biggest one yet.

Devon: Oh.

Amanda: Hi. I’m so glad that you’re still here.

Lily: Oh, speaking of which, thank you so much for clearing up all those legal issues of the ashland episode.

Amanda: Yeah, that — that was not a problem, but that’s not why I’m here.

Devon: What’s wrong? Did something happen?

Amanda: My mom just had a seizure, and I need to go. I need to just be there.

L my — I’m so sryry. Yeah, whatever you need. Honestly, we’ll hold it down here. Take as much time as you want.

Amanda: Okay, thank you. I really appreciate that.

Don d d d dll gho g g g gh you.

Amanda: Okay.

Devon: Alright? I’ll see you.

Lily: Okay.

Devon: Hey.

Amanda: Hey.

Devon: Come here.

Amanda: [ Shs ] S s s s s s

Devon: You okay?

Amanda: I will be, thanks to this hug.

Devon: Listen, I want to be a bigger help than just this, so I’m gonna go with you to see naya.

Amanda: Really?

Devon: Absolutely.

Amanda: Oh.

Nate: Hey.

Imani: Oh, hey.

Nate: Well, it looks like we beat sally here, which is probably a good thing. It’ll give us a minute to go over our approach.

Imani: Don’t think we’ll need that minute. I just got a message from sally that she had to reschedule our meeting.

Nate: What?

Imani: Mm-hmm.

Nate: [ Sighs ] Well, that’s too bad. I was really hoping we could get the ball rolling to free up elena by the time she gets back from her conference.

Imani: Well, I’m afraid the battle’s not over yet, but I am still determined to make this happen for you.

Nate: Thank you.

Imani: Mm-hmm.

Nate: Well, I guess I’ll order some takeout and you can have your night back to yourself.

Imani: Um, actually, is there any way you could stay tonight? I could really use someone to talk to.

Billy: You were right a few days ago when you pointed out how you could potentially help my podcast, because you do know the different sides of me and you are not afraid to tell me what you think.

Chelsea: So my lack of diplomacy makes you think I should work with you?

Billy: Well, not exactly, but yes. Look, something happened when we kept recording yesterday. Ere was a little piece of magic in there. It was free, it was easy. And we do have a connection. And I think together we can find the right tone for a fantastic podcast. And we can bring guests on. We can talk about entertainment. We can give advice. We can still dig deep on the things that matter, but it just won’t be as boring for the audience.

Chelsea: Are you done?

Billy: Yeah, I’m done. What do you think?

Chelsea: I think it would be genuinely healing and a whole lot of fun.

Imani: The seizure was relatively minor, but still upsetting. Amanda’s going to be with our mom.

Nate: Usually the after-effects of a seizure like that are manageable.

Imani: Really? You’re not just saying that to make me feel better?

Nate: No, I wouldn’t give you any false hope. From everything you and amanda have told me, she is getting the best care possible. And I’m sure having family around helps with her mental state.

Imani: Yeah, I think so. Thank you for being so encouraging. I’d be lying if I said this was easy. The toughest part is that when my mom was finally able to say something well enough to be understood, it was amanda’s name. I know I shouldn’t care about something like that right now, but I… I just feel so conflicted.

Nate: No, it’s perfectly normal and human to have those feelings. Listen, I’m glad you talked to me about this. It’s times like this you need to lean on your friends.

Adam: I was just saying goodbye to an employee that already heard that I was leaving. But more importantly, how are you? What happened with dad?

Sally: Victor wants me to convince you to come back to newman media as ceo. And he implied that my days are numbered if I don’t comply. Victor did say that he had no problem with me staying on as coo, so I don’t know, maybe he does care about your well-being.

Adam: Yeah, well, I wish that were true, but this is nothing more than just a game on my father’s behalf, okay? And now he’s dragging you into it. My father’s problem is I’m not playing anymore. And he has made it perfectly clear where I stand in the family hierarchy, that I’m just a tool for nick and victoria to keep them in line. And I am sick of it. You’re not going anywhere. You’re not leaving newman media. I’m gonna take care of everything.

Sally: How are you gonna do that?

Adam: You don’t want to know.

Victoria: You do not expect me to believe that sally spectra is crucial to this company. Come on, daddy. I know better than that. Besides, I thought you said that I get to decide what happens with her.

Victor: I’m having second thoughts about her. Sally spectra could possibly lure adam back to running newman media.

Victoria: Well, I wouldn’t pin my hopes on adam coming back. He’s made his position very clear. You saw the anger in his eyes. Why do we not make a clean sweep and put someone new and fresh in that division?

Ashland: Oh, good. You’re both here. I have some things I have to say.

Victoria: Oh, my goodness. They’re gorgeous! Thank you, Nicholas.

Nick: You got it.

Victoria: They really do brighten up the room.

Nick: Just like that big smile of yours. You’re back where you belong, Vic. And just so you know, I’ve almost forgiven you for letting us think that you chose Ashland over the family.

Victoria: Well, I really do appreciate your understanding. And I will be happy to make it up to you in the form of corporate perks, if and when you agree to accept my job offer.

Nick: Yeah… um… about that.

Victoria: Oh, no. Please don’t tell me that these flowers are your way of letting me down easy.

Diane: When your daddy was your age, ice cream was his absolute favorite food. He could eat it till it was coming out of his ears.

Harrison: Really?

Diane: No, not — not really. That’s just an expression that means that he loved it — a lot. I think he would have had ice cream at every meal if I let him.

Harrison: Me too.

Diane: [Laughs] Me three
