Steve: Stephanie?

Stephanie: Yes, it’s me. And would you put that thing away and come give your daughter a hug?

Kayla: So, what happened?

Chad: I broke a glass in my hand.

Kayla: How’d you manage to do that?

Chad: Found out who killed my wife. And I lost it. It was leo stark.

Leo: Problem, counselor?

Sloan: You think?

Leo: You’re the lawyer. I’m just the eye candy around here.

Sloan: Well, it was all that I could do to convince those salivating cops–

Leo: I’m listening.

Sloan: To give me a moment alone with my client after that little outburst. So, let’s get one thing straight, mr. Stark.

Leo: Please, ms. Petersen, call me leo; all my friends do. Well, actually, some of them call me matty. Probably best not to remind the fuzz of the whole double-identity sitch.

Sloan: Fine, leo. But just to remind you, I’m only taking this case on for the publicity and any possible profits from the book sales of your sordid little story. Nonetheless, if you want me to defend you against these very serious charges, you cannot go off half-cocked making promises to the salem pd that you cannot deliver on. Do you understand?

Leo: First of all, “half-cocked”? Please. And who says I can’t deliver what I’m offering? I said I know who killed abigail dimera, and I do.

Xander: Sarah! I figured it out in the shower!

Sarah: What did you figure out, baby?

Xander: How we’re going to force ava vitali to admit what she did, that she helped gwen break out of prison so she could kill abigail.

Ava: What, is the air-conditioning on the fritz in this mausoleum? Oh, no, no, wait, let me guess. You were hunting poor people for sport on the secluded part of the grounds.

Ej: The legendary vitali wit.

Ava: Ooh, how about this? You were being chased through the moors all night by a werewolf only to be saved by the sunrise.

Ej: Ah, a british one. How clever, but no.

Ava: Oh! You are the werewolf?

Ej: Oh, sorry, but I don’t think there was a full moon last night. So, you’re safe for now. Actually, I just topped off an invigorating fencing workout.

Ava: Mm, fencing. Fencing, yes. I should’ve known.

Ej: Yes, indeed. Anyway, as I was saying, I just topped that off with 20 minutes in the sauna. It was quite refreshing. Perhaps next time you and your sharp wit should join me.

Ava: Are you seriously comin’ on to your late brother’s grieving widow?

Ej: Au contraire, I was merely promoting the well-documented health benefits of a nice sauna bath. You know, studies show not only does it provide much-needed relaxation, but it also aids in detoxifying the body and reducing vascular diseases.

Ava: Hmm. Well, looks like someone’s in the pocket of big sauna. Thank you for the health lesson, dr. House.

Ej: Ooh, there’s that wit again, but really if you must liken me to a fictional physician, I’d much prefer that mcsteamy chap.

Ava: Maybe leave the wit to the professionals.

Ej: All kidding aside, I apologize if my invitation seemed untoward. I know how much your short but sweet marriage to my brother, jake, still means to you.

[Dramatic music]

Xander: And then we’ll sneak into the dimera mansion dressed as plumbers–

Sarah: Baby.

Xander: I’m gonna wear a fake mustache. I don’t think you could pull that off, but maybe like a wig or–how about a scar? Anyway, once we’re in, we’ll infiltrate ava’s bedroom–

Sarah: Xander.

Xander: And I will I plant a bug underneath her humidifier and I agree, escaping is probably gonna be a little difficult, but I believe there’s a series of air ducts there and we can probably like john mcclane our way–

Sarah: Xander.

Xander: Darling, I think this is gonna work.

Sarah: Yes, maybe, if gwen was the one that did kill abigail, but–

Xander: But what?

Sarah: [Sighs] Not if it was someone else.

Sloan: So you’re telling me that you’ve known this whole time who killed abigail dimera, and you’re just now coming forward with the information? Even if I manage to prevent you from going away for murder, the da will have a damn good case against you for obstruction of justice.

Leo: Did I say I knew the whole time?

Sloan: Well, you can bet that melinda trask will argue that you should’ve proffered this information the second you knew the killer’s identity, and she’ll be right!

Leo: What if i was just trying to protect someone I care about?

Sloan: You are facing a first-degree murder charge! This is not the time for dale carnegie’s “how to win friends and influence people.”

Leo: Never read it. Now, “the joys of gay sex”? That one I highly recommend.

Sloan: I need you to focus, leo. I need you to tell me who killed abigail dimera, and I need you to tell me now.

Kayla: So how did leo get into the tunnels in the first place?

Chad: Gwen.

Kayla: Sorry.

Chad: It just never ends with her. You know, those two go way back, both birthed from the bowels of hell together.

Kayla: So you really think that she was involved?

Chad: She’s been obsessed with my wife since she came to salem. She blames abigail for being the daughter who got it all. You know, she got to grow up with jack as her father while she was raised by some dysfunctional, screwy mother, as if abby had it all. You know, from what I heard, jack wouldn’t have won any father of the year awards while abigail and jj were growing up.

Kayla: It’s a bit harsh, isn’t it, chad? I mean, do you think that jack deserves that? He just lost his daughter.

Chad: Yeah, I do. And more. He was at the hotel room when I confronted her. Stood by her the whole time, and she said she didn’t know anything about any of this and he just backed her all the way.

Kayla: That must’ve been hard to hear.

Chad: Yeah, and then the daughter that he knew and loved his whole life was cut down in her prime and he still defends the bad seed.

Kayla: Chad, you’re a father. Surely, you could understand jack not wanting to believe that gwen had anything to do with abigail’s death. I mean, it’s horrible enough to lose one daughter, but to think that another child is responsible?

Stephanie: You scared the hell out of me, dad.

Steve: That makes two of us. But I sure am happy to see you. I have missed you so much.

Stephanie: I’ve missed you too. So why’d you come in here, gun literally blazing?

Steve: Well, I got an alert that the security alarm went off. And I wonder how that happened.

Stephanie: Guilty. Took me a minute to remember the code– emily & gideon 4eva. I thought mom stopped setting the house alarm because there was, like, a glitch or something.

Steve: She did. I asked her to start using it again.

Stephanie: Why?

Steve: I’m sorry to have to tell you this, baby girl, but orpheus is back, and he’s targeting our family again.

Xander: [Sighs] That sick, sadistic bastard. Pretending to be a magical sprite. But betraying a child’s sense of wonder and belief in the fantastic, all the while, laying in wait to kill the lad’s mother.

Sarah: Mm-hmm.

Xander: God, it’s like something straight out of “dateline nbc.”

Sarah: Yeah. I guess our theory about gwen and ava being involved in abigail’s murder just kind of goes out the window now.

Xander: Not so fast, my love. I wouldn’t go issuing any get out of jail free cards for that gruesome twosome just yet.

[Doorbell ringing]

Ava: Where is that damn butler when you need him? Don’t worry, harold, I’ll get it–wouldn’t want to inconvenience you. What the hell are you doing here?

Gwen: Is that any way to greet a friend?

Ava: Come on in, why don’t you? Have to say, I wasn’t expecting a visit from you.

Gwen: Since when do you and I stand on ceremony? Oh, I see how it is. Now that you’re a bona fide dimera wife living the high life in the big, grand mansion, you’re just too posh to receive a visit from a lowly peon like me, unannounced no less, is that it?

Ava: Yes, well, we high society types do prefer that our visitors call ahead. But don’t worry, I’ll still consort with a select few peons from time to time.

Gwen: Oh, well, how very benevolent of you. Far be it from me to waste your precious time. Just thought I’d pop in and put your mind at ease now that the news is out.

Ava: What news?

Gwen: You haven’t heard? Leo stark is in custody. They think that he killed my sister.

Leo: This isn’t easy for me, okay? This particular friend and I go way back.

Sloan: How touching. Is the rhoda to your mary gonna be there to hold your hand when the state decides to give you the needle?

Leo: Please don’t say that. I hate needles. One spring break, I was supposed to get a tramp stamp to match my spiritual twin, britney spears, but I passed out at the tattoo parlor before they could prick me. I guess there is a first time for everything.

Sloan: As fascinating and revelatory as your stories full of skeevy double entendres may be, could we possibly get back to the matter at hand? Namely, keeping you from going down for a murder rap?

Leo: Fine, fine, be that way.

Sloan: So what about this proof you say you have, that your friend killed mrs. Dimera? Does it really exist?

Leo: Oh, it exists all right.

Kayla: Sorry, I know it hurts.

Chad: It’s fine.

Kayla: You really did quite a number on yourself here.

Chad: It’s really not that big of a deal.

Kayla: I’m not so sure about that. Shingles.

Stephanie: Thanks.

Steve: You’re welcome.

Stephanie: [Sighs] Dad, I hate to see you this shook up. I mean, okay, so orpheus is out of statesville.

Steve: Which is a travesty to begin with.

Stephanie: And yes, he did send mom some flowers.

Steve: Yellow freakin’ roses.

Stephanie: But still.

Steve: But still what?

Stephanie: The steven earl johnson I know, my big, strong protective papa, that guy wouldn’t have blinked at all that. He would’ve already found a way to neutralize the threat, and with time to spare for a round of poker with the boys, and he would’ve cleaned up too. He would’ve emptied the pockets of john, abe, and roman.

Steve: Don’t you doubt it, baby. Remember, I am still your big, strong, protective papa, and I’ve already found a way to neutralize orpheus.

Stephanie: So what are you waiting for? What’s the problem?

Steve: The problem is, little sweetness, mama sweetness won’t let me eliminate the son of a bitch.

Kayla: You know, I’m not worried about this injury, chad. It’s not serious, thankfully. I’m worried about you hurting yourself again.

Chad: It was just an accident. Like I said, I just lost my temper. But I’m not acting out or anything, kayla. My problem isn’t that I’m suicidal. My problem is that I am homicidal.

Kayla: Don’t say that.

Chad: That’s the truth. You know what I wish for? I wish that rafe would leave me alone with stark, turn a blind eye for five minutes with none of the police station cameras, no guards, no lawyers, just me and him– five precious minutes, me and him and justice– justice for my abigail.

Kayla: Do you really think that killing leo is going to end your pain?

Chad: What makes you think I want my pain to stop?

Kayla: Why wouldn’t you want that?

Chad: Because it’s all I have, and if that goes away, then I have nothing. So I can’t do that. I can’t let her go. I will not let her go.

Sloan: Okay, I think we can work with that, and do you really have this evidence?

Leo: It’s right where I told you.

Rafe: Well, well, well, if it isn’t sloan petersen.

Sloan: Hello, rafe. It’s been a long time.

Rafe: Yeah, not long enough.

Leo: Rude! I like it.

Sloan: So, I see that detectives hunter and brady realized they were out of their depth and decided to call in the big gun.

Leo: Just how big is that gun, mr. Commissioner?

Rafe: My detectives got called in on another case, so I’m just stepping in, but they did warn me that you are representing the talented mr. Stark here.

Leo: Talented? You make me blush.

Sloan: They warned you? Should I take offense?

Rafe: I didn’t realize you were so easily insulted. I would’ve thought that salem’s most prolific ambulance chaser would have a thicker skin, after all.

Leo: Um, commish, if I may? How thick is your skin?

Sloan: Thick enough apparently to withstand being the most bumbling commissioner in the history of the salem police department. So did I hear right, rafe, that your girlfriend’s successfully managed to frame you for being a dirty cop after she found out you were cheating on her?

Rafe: I’ve been exonerated. Yeah, and that’s “ex-girlfriend.” See, now, I’m a happily married man.

Sloan: Well, I’ll send my condolences to the not-so-lucky lady.

Leo: Ooh! It is getting hot in here! Is it not? All this cross talk, I feel just like rosalind russell.

Rafe: All right! Enough of the nonsense. Detectives brady and hunter have already told me about leo’s bogus claims.

Sloan: I can assure you there’s nothing bogus about them. My client knows who killed abigail dimera, and he has proof.

Rafe: Oh yeah? Well, out with it.

Leo: Yes, sir.

Sloan: Leo will tell you everything, as soon as he gets immunity.

Sarah: So ava used her mob connections to bust gwen out of prison.

Xander: Then leo helped gwen sneak into the dimera mansion where she finally got her ultimate revenge, violently murdering her most detested half-sister.

Sarah: And then leo took off with abigail’s priceless jewelry. I guess it’s possible they were all in cahoots. Which if that is what happened, the three of them are so much depraved than I could’ve imagined.

Ava: So the police think leo stark killed abigail?

Gwen: Apparently so.

Ava: Hmm.

Gwen: What?

Ava: Mm, I don’t know. I’m just– I’m not so sure I buy it. I mean, you knew leo the best. You think he’s capable of murder?

Gwen: Leo was furious with chad and abigail for the part that they played in ruining his happiness.

Ava: Yeah, yeah, I know. I know they broke up his marriage to dr. Moneybags, but still, I mean, stabbing someone to death? It just doesn’t seem like his style.

Gwen: Well, you and i both know that vengeance can drive somebody to do unspeakable things.

Ava: Yeah, that is very, very true. Ooh, it’s kind of like when you asked me to break you out of prison on the same night that abigail died. Tell me, gwen. Were you being driven by vengeance that night?

[Dramatic music]

Gwen: And here I thought that leo’s arrest would’ve put your suspicions of me to bed.

Ava: Well, you can’t blame a girl for being curious, gwen. I mean, I did bust you out of prison on the very night that abigail met her maker, and we both know how much you hated her– much more than leo, I would wager.

Gwen: I didn’t hate abigail. I was merely–

[Sighs] I was merely very jealous of the life that she lived, the life that I was deprived of. Deep down, I–I actually did– I did care for her and her children, my niece and nephew. I could never live with the responsibility of having taken their mother from them.

Ava: Yeah, whatever gets you through the night, toots.

Ej: Oh, hello, ladies! I’m experiencing a little bit of déj vu. Once again, I enter my living room to find the two of you with your heads together. How curious. I do hope you’re feeling better, gwen.

Gwen: Beg your pardon?

Ej: You were under the weather? Isn’t that why you missed dinner with ava and me?

Gwen: Oh–[Clears throat] Yes, yes, of course. Yes, I’m still not quite myself actually. Uh, do accept my apologies, and I’ve just received some rather disturbing news. My friend is in jail, leo, being questioned about abigail’s murder.

Ej: Mm, yes, leo stark. I heard all about that while I was getting dressed. My brother, chad, and I, we’re not on the best of terms as of late, and abigail was a cherished member of the family, wonderful mother and devoted daughter and friend to many, and she died here in this house, under my roof. It’s– it’s unspeakable. I do hope the authorities nail leo stark and anyone else who may be responsible for my sister-in-law’s death, to the wall.

[Dramatic music]

Sloan: So why don’t you trot on over to trask’s office and get my client that immunity deal? And then leo will sing like a canary.

Leo: I do have a beautiful voice.

Rafe: Ah, yes. Well, sorry, counselor, but no deal. You see, I already have a suspect in custody who had means, motive, and opportunity, and those are just the facts.

Sloan: Your facts are flimsy at best.

Rafe: Mm-hmm. See, you may call two identifying witnesses flimsy, but I doubt a jury of his peers will see it that way.

Leo: Peers? Honey, I’m in a class by myself.

Sloan: A little boy who still believes in the tooth fairy and a repeat ex-convict don’t exactly make for star witnesses.

Rafe: We already know your client accessed the dimera family home. We don’t have to take little thomas’ word for it, because we found leo’s fingerprints on the silverware in the wine cellar where he was squatting.

Leo: Ugh, “squatting.” It’s such a gauche term. I prefer “subletting.”

Sloan: Shut up, leo. The commissioner and I are negotiating.

Rafe: No, actually, we are not negotiating, because you have nothing to negotiate with, and I am losing my patience. Now, you can either choose to come up with this proof that you so claim to have, or I am going to request that da trask indicts you for the murder of abigail dimera.

Kayla: Chad, I cannot presume to know what you’re feeling. Everybody grieves differently, and I know it’s not a fair comparison because I got steve back. But I’m sorry if what I say seems insensitive to what you’re going through.

Chad: Kayla, you can say whatever’s on your mind.

Kayla: I know almost better than anybody, the rage that goes with grief when you lose somebody that you love to violence. When I thought that I had lost steve, I was consumed with wanting revenge. I wanted lawrence alamain, the man that I was led to believe was responsible for steve’s death– I wanted him to pay, and it took me a really long time to let go of that desire for revenge. But I had to. Not just for me, but for stephanie. My daughter needed me to be whole, just like thomas and charlotte need you.

Chad: Yeah, I– I get that, but like you said, it’s not the same. Steve came home to you.

Kayla: And I thank god every day for that. Chad, I know that your loss is unspeakably tragic and painful for you and your children, but you– you’ve got to find a way to deal with the anger about how it happened or who you think might be responsible for it, and figure out how you can try to let it go.

Stephanie: Whoa. When I said I thought you’d quickly neutralize orpheus, I didn’t mean permanently. Dad, come on, you can’t just kill a man for no reason.

Steve: No reason? That evil bastard has been terrorizing the people I love since reagan was in office. I think that’s reason enough.

Stephanie: [Sighs] You really are worried.

Steve: I don’t know what I’d do if anything happened to you or your mom or your brothers, and I don’t intend to find out.

Stephanie: And I bet seeing what’s going on with aunt jennifer and uncle jack doesn’t help.

[Sighs] I still can’t believe abigail is gone.

Steve: Me neither. My heart goes out to everyone who lost abigail, and poor chad and those kids.

Stephanie: [Sighs] I really should go see them. Everyone’s still staying over at doug and julie’S.

Steve: Yeah, that’s right, but you’re not going anywhere except back to seattle.

Stephanie: [Scoffs] Why would I go back to seattle? I just got here.

Steve: I need you and your brothers to lie low in seattle until orpheus can be dealt with.

Stephanie: You may be willing to put your entire life on hold for orpheus, but I’m not.

Steve: I’m not asking you to put your life on hold.

Stephanie: Yes, you are.

[Chuckles] A prospective client here in salem is considering hiring stephanie johnson public relations for some big project. Dad, this could be huge for sjpr–for me. That’s why I’m here, not just to pay my respects for abigail.

Steve: Who’s the client?

Stephanie: They haven’t disclosed their name yet.

Steve: [Scoffs]

Stephanie: It’s top secret. They want to wait until we meet in-person tonight.

Steve: Oh, baby. Don’t you see? There is no client. It’s orpheus.

Stephanie: [Sighs] Moderate to severe eczema still disrupts my skin.

Stephanie: [Sighs] You think my prospective client is orpheus?

Steve: Of course it’s orpheus. It’s a trap. Why else would they keep their identity a secret?

Stephanie: I don’t know, like a million different reasons. They could be a celebrity or a politician. They could be a company who’s looking for a new firm.

Steve: Or it could be a psychopath named orpheus.

Stephanie: Enough. Dad, enough. You need to stop with this orpheus paranoia! My meeting was set up by a trusted colleague. I’ve worked with them countless times, and don’t you forget I’m no babe in the woods. My father taught me how to take care of myself.

Steve: Steph, I know that you can handle yourself, but all the pepper spray in the world is not going to protect you from a madman like orpheus. I really wish you and your stubborn mother would realize what a threat he is to us.

Stephanie: Where is mom?

Steve: She’s at the hospital.

Stephanie: Well, let’s stop arguing and go see her. I have just enough time to surprise her at work before I definitely go to my important meeting.

Steve: What was the word I just used to describe your mother? It starts with an S.

Stephanie: Sweetness?

Steve: Okay. We’ll go surprise your mom, and then I will definitely accompany you to your very private, secret meeting.

Stephanie: Dad.

Steve: Don’t “dad” me. If you’re determined to go to this meeting, I’m determined to have your back. Don’t you forget, your papa can be just as stubborn as you and your mom. Let’s go.

[Dramatic music]

Kayla: Chad, have you considered therapy?

Chad: Sonny mentioned that too.

Kayla: Well, I’m sure that marlena could find you a grief support group.

Chad: And what is that? Sit around with a bunch of– a bunch of other sad sacks feeling sorry for myself?

Kayla: No, you would learn how to deal with your anger, and maybe not let it eat away at you. Maybe you can stop hurting yourself and getting drunk and yelling at your kids.

Chad: Who told you that?

Kayla: Jennifer. Because she’s concerned about you. She loves you, chad. We all do. You went to marriage counseling, right? Abigail told me that.

Chad: Yeah, that was different.

Kayla: But you know that it helped heal your marriage. Now, I don’t know how long it’s going to take to heal your heart, but maybe you can learn to be kinder to yourself and be more present for your children.

Sarah: Have you given any thought to how we’re going to prove ava and gwen are in cahoots with leo?

Xander: Yeah, I just thought we’d stick to my original, brilliant plan and break into ava’s room at the dimera mansion and planting a bug. I’ll get my fake mustache!

Sarah: Or! Or, and now hear me out, I’m just spit balling here, we could go to the police with everything we know.

Xander: I mean, yeah, I suppose that would work too.

Gwen: Right, well then, I really must be off. So you take care, ej. Ava, I’ll talk to you soon.

Ej: Oof, she seemed upset.

Ava: Wouldn’t you be? She just found out her best friend may’ve offed her kid sister.

Ej: Oh, funny. I would imagine that latest development would make gwen feel quite relieved.

Ava: Why on earth would you think that?

Ej: Well, now that leo stark is the number one suspect in abigail’s murder and currently in custody, the police are that much further from realizing that gwen is just as likely to have done the deed with your help.

Sarah:

Sarah: Gwen. What a coincidence. We were just talking about you.

Gwen: Mm, in a very warm way, I’m sure.

Xander: We read the article in “the intruder” about your good friend leo, arrested for murder.

Gwen: Yes, as you can imagine, I’m quite devastated.

Sarah: So you think that leo’s guilty?

Gwen: Well, the salem police seem to think so. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have brought him in for questioning.

Xander: Well, that works out really well for you, doesn’t it, gwen? I mean, sure, you lose your best friend, but I’d say that’s a small price to pay for getting away with murder.

Leo: All right, I’ll give up the killer and the proof. No need to strip me naked and torture me under harsh lights. That is, unless you think that’s totally necessary, commissioner.

Sloan: Handing over crucial evidence and the culprit has to net us something, hernandez.

Rafe: Yeah, sure. And once I see who and what leo has to offer, I will talk to trask and we will consider what it’s worth. And that is the best I have to offer.

Sloan: I think it’s your best bet.

Leo: Maybe I should hold out for the strip search.

Rafe: Forget it.

Leo: Okay, fine, fine, fine, wait. All right, mr. Big gun, when are we going to get this evidence?

Rafe: No, no, no, no. You’re not going anywhere. You’re staying here. Ms. Petersen is gonna take me to it.

[Dramatic music]

Kayla: Well, your tetanus is up to date, that’s good. I called in a prescription for you down at the pharmacy, and you could change that bandage later today, and come see me in a week, and I will make sure that the whole thing is healing properly.

Chad: Thank you.

Kayla: Mm-hmm. And when you go down to the pharmacy to pick up your prescription, you could just pop into marlena’s office. I mean, you could always cancel the appointment if you change your mind.

Chad: Okay, you win.

Kayla: Thank you.

Chad: Thank you.

[Elevator dings] Ah, hey, you! How are you? Did you figure out why our alarm was going off at the house?

Steve: I sure did.

Stephanie: Hey, mom.

Ava: You must be loopy from spending all that time in the sauna if you think I helped gwen do anything to abigail.

Ej: “The lady doth protest too much, methinks.” That’s from “hamlet,” in case you were wondering.

Ava: Oh, I know my shakespeare, you pretentious ass.

Ej: I heard you, ava. I heard you admit to breaking the wretched ms. Gwen rizczech out of prison the night abigail was killed.

Ava: Ah, so you were eavesdropping?

Ej: I happen to live here. And how was I to know one of my guests would be openly discussing her latest criminal exploits in my parlor room?

Ava: I’m not sure what you think you heard, ej, but you’re barking up the wrong tree.

Sloan: Oh, sorry; I finished it off. I need, like, three cups just to get my day started. You know, if you’d like, I can have hendo bring you up some more.

Sonny: Hendo? Okay. Let me guess; you’re alex’s friend?

Alex: Somebody say my name?

Sloan: Oh.

[Knocking at door]

Gwen: Dad. What are you doing here?

Jack: I came to update you on your sister’s murder investigation, unless you’ve already seen the news.

Gwen: No, I only just got up. What’s happened?

Jack: The police have a new suspect in custody.

Gwen: Really? Who?

Jack: Your friend, leo stark.

[Door clicks open]

Leo: Oh, finally–and now, I am leaving.

Shawn: Nope, guess again.

Leo: What? You already held me here all night for no reason.

Shawn: We held you here, ’cause you’re the main suspect in the abigail dimera murder case.

Leo: [Sighs]

Shawn: We have some more questions we need you to answer.

Leo: No, I am not dating anyone, and yes, I put out on the first date.

Shawn: You may not know this, but abigail was my cousin, and I’m taking this very seriously, and I think you should too.

Leo: Oh, I am. I plan to sue you, the commissioner, and the entire department for unlawful detention. In the meantime, you cannot and will not prevent me from employing humor as a way of surviving this interminable confinement.

Shawn: Oh, you want me to speed this up? Want me to speed it up, huh? I’ll make you a deal, all right? I’ll tell the D.A. To go light on your sentence if you confess to the murder of abigail.

Jada: Chad, I know it probably isn’t easy being back here at this house. If you prefer, I can do the search myself, and you can wait outside.

Jada: Your son said he ran into leo stark in the basement. How do we get down there?

Chad: Entrance is over here.

Jada: Seriously?

Chad: What, you don’t have secret tunnels in your house? I’ll lead the way.

Leo: For the last time, I did not kill abigail dimera!

Shawn: Well, we have a witness that puts you in the house the night of the murder.

Leo: Oh, please, are you talking about that mentally ill little boy who thinks I’m the tooth fairy? Have you questioned santa claus and the easter bunny as well?

Shawn: Well, we questioned clyde weston. Yeah, he said that you were in possession of a bag of jewelry that was stolen from abigail’s bedroom the night that she was murdered, all right? If you were never there, how did you get that jewelry?

Jack: Based on the information that clyde and thomas gave to the police, leo is now at the center of your sister’s murder investigation.

Gwen: But nothing that they said proves that he did it.

Jack: Leo was hiding out in abigail’s basement. He had her jewelry. If he’s innocent, how do you explain that?

Gwen: I suppose I can’T.

Jack: Gwen, you were close with leo. Did he say or do anything that would lead you to believe that he could’ve killed abigail?

Leo: Why would you think that I killed abigail?

Gwen: You were in her house last night.

Leo: You sent me there.

Gwen: I sent you directions to the secret room where you were obviously lying in wait.

Leo: Obv–no, I was drinking mimosas and working out a plan for revenge, which did not include me going all norman bates.

Gwen: Listen, if anyone understands, it is me. I understand the resentment and the rage that you felt when you crept out of that room and into abigail’s bedroom, and you got that revenge that you so bloody-well deserved.

No, dad. Honestly, I’m just as shocked to hear about this as you are.

Leo: Listen up, chiseled-cheeks. I have no idea what clyde weston is talking about. I’ve never even met the guy.

Shawn: That’s interesting, because he says that you two were partners in a fencing operation.

Leo: I’m sorry; fencing? You mean, like, sword play?

Shawn: No, as in the crime of buying and reselling stolen merchandise. He said that you were in possession of a bag of jewelry that you were just looking to unload–jewelry that belonged to abigail.

Leo: As I said, I’ve never even met the guy, let alone conspired with him to sell stolen goods.

Shawn: Okay, why would he lie?

Leo: I don’t know! He’s–he’s out on parole. Maybe he doesn’t wanna spend the rest of his life in prison.

Shawn: Oh, clyde’s got an air-tight alibi.

Leo: Well then, maybe he’s afraid you could still find a way to pin this on him.

Shawn: Okay, so maybe that’s true. Let’s just say that it is. Can you tell me why is it that he would want to pin this on you? Why you?

Leo: [Sighs] His girlfriend put him up to it.

Shawn: Nancy?

Leo: Yes! That pathetic woman hates me for stealing her husband.

Shawn: That’s not the way that I heard it. I heard it was an epic fail on your part.

Leo: Well, that’s only because the losers in this town wouldn’t mind their own business. But my breakup with craig aside, nancy still wants revenge against me; she blames me for breaking up her family.

Shawn: I hear that she and clyde are very happy together.

Leo: Oh, I’m so happy they found each other. But it doesn’t change the fact that you’re holding me here, when all you have is the word of a spoiled brat and a career criminal whose bae despises me. You have no real evidence to back up these insane accusations.

Shawn: Not yet. But we’re working on it.

Jada: These tunnels, are they only underneath the house?

Chad: No, they go on for miles.

Jada: So there are access points beyond your property?

Chad: Yes, several, all over salem.

Jada: Could there be a way that leo used them to get down here?

Chad: I mean, they’re all locked and hidden, but yeah, I guess it’s possible.

Jada: What is this one used for?

Chad: Storing wine, mostly, and some other stuff, like, holding people against their will.

Jada: Ever consider just sealing it off?

Chad: Where would we store our wine? Son of– thomas was right. Leo was under our noses the whole time.

Sonny: I didn’t think I gave you a look.

Alex: Yeah.

[Scoffs] What is that, like, immoral, sonny? Was I supposed to pledge my troth to her before I–I don’t know, how do they say it in the olden days? Made whoopee?

[Laughs] It’s the 21st century, for god’s sake.

Sonny: I know it’s the 21st century, alex. But I just–I guess I’m not as cavalier about using people as you are.

Alex: How did I use her? That woman never for one minute indicated that she wanted anything more from me than sex.

Sonny: Everyone wants more than just sex, alex.

Alex: Really? Everyone?

Sonny: Yeah.

Alex: Now, how do you know that, sonny? Did you take the “everyone wants more than sex” survey?

Sonny: No, I–I didn’t take a survey, alex. But you know, I’ve come across a lot of normal people with normal hearts and souls, and they do want relationships, and yes, that does include sex, but also a lot of other things, like, caring for someone else and sharing a life together. I mean, everyone deserves to be loved.

Alex: Oh, I agree with you. You know why? Because I am feeling very loved. I have a father who loves me. I got a brother who really loves me, and I got friends. I got a lot of friends, and I know you and will are very domesticated, and that’s a beautiful thing. It’s just not for me. It’s not my style–

Alex: It’s not what I’m looking for.

Alex: But hey, you do you.

Sonny: But that way, you don’t get to experience, like, the real hard stuff, the scary stuff, the stuff that actually takes courage, you know? Like, commitment and sacrifice and a lot of other things.

Alex: Mm. Well, see, the scary the stuff that you’re talking about actually just sounds boring– but not just boring, but suffocating–but if you’re into that–

Sonny: No, do you know what I’m into, alex? I’m into loving another person, and not just the person that I have sex with, but the person that is my best friend and my family and my partner–and you know what? If that means I have to make some sacrifices along the way, so be it, because I think that loving someone and having them love you back is the most beautiful thing in the world.

Sonny: They look great. You know what? Fine, okay, you know what? Let’s just move on. Let’s pretend we never had this conversation, because clearly, you’re dead set in this shallow lifestyle, and I’m not gonna change your mind, and it’s your life, so–

Jada: You mentioned earlier that some of the tunnel entrances are hidden. Any idea how leo could’ve found them?

Chad: I’m not sure. I–I didn’t even think he knew about the tunnels.

Jada: Is there anyone you can think of that might’ve told him?

Chad: Yeah, one person comes to mind.

Gwen: Oh, I have known leo a very, very long time, back before when he was matty cooper, and yes, he is–he’s capable of doing many things, but murder is not one of them.

Jack: Gwen, I know you don’t wanna think about your friend being able to do something like this, but he did have a motive. He was furious with abigail and chad for their part in ruining his future with craig. It’s no secret that he wanted revenge.

Gwen: Yeah, but he already did that, didn’t he, when he sent in that rubbish story about him and chad to “the intruder”?

Jack: Which left abigail.

Gwen: Look, it doesn’t matter how angry leo might have gotten. He would never go this far, stabbing a mother of two children to death. No, there’s just no way. Well, if it wasn’t leo or lucas or sarah or clyde, then who? Who could’ve done something so horrible to my daughter?

Kayla: You don’t really think that orpheus put a bomb in there?

Steve: Well, explosives are his weapon of choice.

[Sighs] Okay, no bomb.

Kayla: Obviously, orpheus’ apology was insincere. But I would hardly call a few flowers a threat.

Steve: It’s a message, kayla–his way of saying he can get to you any time he wants. I’m gonna deliver a message of my own.

Steve: I’m gonna track that son of a bitch down, and I’m gonna kill him.

Kayla: Look, I know that orpheus is dangerous. But you and the salem pd are gonna watch him like a hawk.

Steve: Oh, yeah, that’s what john said–said, “just keep eyes on him. Tail him 24/7.”

Kayla: Well, there you go.

Steve: No, it’s not enough. I told john we have to be proactive. We have to eliminate the threat.

Kayla: So you already talked to john about killing orpheus?

Steve: That’s right, and when we were talking, orpheus strolled up and mentioned he just paid a visit to marlena.

Kayla: Okay, that’s awful and scary. Okay, okay. But I am almost positive that john did not agree to go vigilante with you. Am I right?

Steve: Yeah.

Kayla: Well, at least one of you is thinking clearly.

Steve: I’m tellin you, kayla. Orpheus is planning something, something big. If we don’t stop him now–

Kayla: Listen to me. Listen. I want that animal back in a cage as much as you do. But you cannot take matters into your own hands. Steve, please. Tell me that you will not do anything crazy.

Sonny: My god, that’s leo stark.

Alex: I thought he looked familiar. That’s the guy who accused you of sexual harassment–

Sonny: Falsely accused. This–this is unbelievable.

Alex: I mean, harassment to murder? That’s a pretty big leap.

Sonny: But if leo killed abigail, then– oh, my god, it’s kind of my fault.

Alex: What do you mean it’s your fault?

Sonny: Leo hated chad and abigail because they helped me break up his relationship with his fiancé. But the only reason they did that was because I asked them to.

Alex: I don’t understand, sonny. What are you talking–

Sonny: Besides being a huge creep, leo is also a huge con man. I dealt with him before, so it was important for me not to let him hurt anyone else, and this new target of his, this fiancé, had a lot of connections to everyone in salem, so busting him was a bit of a group effort.

Alex: That included chad and abigail?

Sonny: Yes, and I put a target on their back.

[Sighs]

Alex: Sonny boy, you cannot blame yourself. Look at me, hey. There is no way that you could’ve known that guy was capable of doing anything like that.

Sonny: I should call chad.

Alex: Right.

Sonny: Make sure he’s okay.

[Phone beeps]

[Phone ringing] Straight to voicemail.

[Voicemail beeps] Hey, chad, it’s sonny. Um, look I don’t know if you saw the news about leo, but just give me a call when you get this.

Gwen: I’m so sorry, dad. I– I know all of this uncertainty must be absolute torture for you.

Jack: I just want justice for my little girl.

Gwen: I know. I wish I could help you.

[Knocking at door]

Jack: Who’s that?

Gwen: I don’t know. Chad.

Chad: I need to talk to you.

Jack: What’s going on?

Chad: Detective hunter and i were searching the basement in my house, and we found evidence that someone had been hiding out in the secret room.

Jack: What did you find?

Chad: Blankets, silverware. Police are doing all the tests for prints and dna, but i already know that it was leo stark.

Jack: Are you sure?

Chad: Thomas said that he ran into him the day that abby was murdered, in the tunnels. I believe him. So it’s only a matter of time before I can prove that it was him. What do you think about that, gwen?

Gwen: Well, as I said to jack, I’m stunned that leo’s involved.

Chad: Really?

Gwen: What does that mean?

Chad: How did he get into my house, gwen?

Gwen: How would I know?

Chad: Well, he found his way into the tunnels, not using an access point on the property. See, the thing about those entrances is they are very well-hidden. So leo wouldn’t have been able to find it unless he was helped.

Gwen: So you think it was me? You think that I helped him break into your home?

Chad: That is exactly what I think.

Gwen: Why would I do that?

Chad: Because he told you he was planning to kill my wife, and you–you vindictive, sadistic, little psycho helped him do it.

[Dramatic music]

Shawn: Well, let’s see. He flirted with me, and then he acted out some bizarre courtroom drama, in which, of course, he was the victim. He’s just been stonewalling me the entire time.

Jada: Actually, I think I might’ve cracked this case wide open. I was on an antidepressant,

Kayla: I need you to promise me.

Sonny: Sounds like they actually have a pretty solid case against leo.

Alex: He was really that angry that his relationship blew up?

Sonny: Yes. I mean, he thought he was set for life, and then at the last second, it was all taken away from him. So yeah, he was pretty pissed off, and he swore revenge against all of us.

Alex: Including you?

Sonny: Okay, um, I asked dad not to tell you and joe and vic. A couple months ago, leo drugged me, and–

Alex: Oh. He took pictures of us in bed, and then he sold them to a tabloid.

Alex: He sexually assaulted you?

Sonny: No. He made it look like we slept together, okay? In order to–I don’t know– humiliate me or ruin my reputation or break up my marriage, whatever.

Alex: Please tell me that you pressed charges.

Sonny: I tried! I tried, but by the time I took a blood test, the drugs were out of my system, and I couldn’t prove a thing.

Alex: Why didn’t you tell us?

Sonny: Because I– I was embarrassed.

Alex: Nobody’s drugging my little brother and getting away with it. Wait until I get my hands on this little weasel–

Chad: Yeah, and maybe as payback for that and destroying your future with xander and sending you to prison, you put leo in a position to kill her.

Jack: Calm down! You’re jumping to conclusions!

Gwen: And those tunnels, I mean, they’re not salem’s best kept secret, are they?

Chad: Well, maybe you didn’t know about leo’s plan, but you told him about those tunnels, because you are a vengeful, jealous psycho.

Alex: You ready to head to the office?

Sonny: No, I just–I just got the weirdest email.

Alex: About what?

Sonny: Okay, do you remember that little company out in london I wanted to buy, and then at the last second, it just, like, fell through?

Alex: Yeah, the llc swooped in and snatched it, right?

Sonny: Yeah, well, that same llc just emailed me, and they’re offering to sell to titan.

Alex: That’s great!

Sonny: But it doesn’t make– I mean, they’re selling it at the exact same price they bought it for. They would be, you know, not even making a profit.

Alex: Sounds like a steal. You might wanna jump on that before they change their mind.

Sonny: No, I don’t like it. I mean, something’s up here.

[Keyboard keys clicking]

Chad: [Sighs] Okay.

[Ice clittering]

[Sighs] Pull it together.

Shawn: Sloan petersen, isn’t it your day off?

Sloan: I think you have me confused with somebody else.

Leo: Can we focus on me, please? So what do you think?

Sloan: I think you were smart to call me. The police have nothing.

Shawn: I wouldn’t call two witnesses nothing.

Sonny: No. No, I don’t think so. I think either they dug up dirt on the owner, or they found out he was cookin’ the books. But to give up something this quickly? I mean, it stinks, all right? And I think I’m gonna pass.

Alex: What do you mean you’re gonna pass? Sonny, that’s a huge mistake.

Sonny: No, at first, I was really bummed I didn’t get this deal. But now I don’t know, it kind of seems like a blessing in disguise.

Alex: Sonny boy, this is the perfect acquisition for titan. It’s terrific. You gotta pull the trigger. Uncle vic’s gonna be psyched. Everybody’s gonna be psyched. You’re not gonna get burned.

Sonny: I’m not taking any chances, all right? We’re gonna be late for the conference call. I’ll meet you in the car.

Alex: [Sighs] Damn, bro. I’m trying to help you out here.

[Suspenseful music]

Steve: Freeze!

Stephanie: [Gasps]

Kayla: No word from steve. I hope everything’s all right. Oh, chad. What happened? Are you all right?

Gwen: Chad is completely off-base. If matty is responsible for what happened to my sister, I swear to you, I–I knew nothing about it.

Jack: Chad is just upset. When he calms down, he’s gonna see that he’s wrong. With any luck, this nightmare will soon be over.

Gwen: Yes. God willing. And we’ll know once and for all what happened to my sister.

Jack: [Sighs]

Gwen: Dad, thank you so much for defending me. You don’t know how much it means to me.

[Sighs]

Sloan: So what is this new evidence you supposedly found?

Jada: A fork with your client’s fingerprints on it. We found it on a tray in the basement of the dimera house.

Sloan: And you have confirmation on these prints?

Jada: Got the lab report right here. It backs up thomas’ story, and it proves that leo was hiding out in that secret room.

Sloan: It proves nothing. This is circumstantial.

Shawn: Well, it’s enough to place him under arrest, and I’m gonna check with the D.A. About filing murder charges, and knowing trask–well, she’s gonna move this along really quickly.

Leo: I did not kill abigail. But–but I know who did. I can prove it.

Allie: You want to get a closer look? Gabi. Hey, hey, come join us.

Chanel: Really?

Alex: Of course she knows her.

Gabi: Hey, allie.

Allie: Long time, no see.

Alex: Allie, you didn’t tell me you were friends with a goddess.

Gabi: Goddess, that’s a new one.

Chanel: I’ve never met her.

Allie: Oh, okay, sorry, um, chanel, alex, this is–

Alex: Wait a minute. I know you from somewhere.

[Smooth jazz music]

Roman: Uh, sorry, kids. I just closed the kitchen.

Paulina: Oh, that’s okay. We already ate at the bistro.

Abe: Yeah, but paulina wanted to stop in for a nightcap, but, you know, if you need to close up shop…

Roman: No, no, actually, I’m babysitting henry. Uh, yeah, well, glad to have the company.

Paulina: [Chuckles] Sounds like you did a good job getting him to sleep.

Roman: For now, for now, but eric’s down the hallway anyway, so what can I get you two?

Abe: All right, look, you’re not gonna get any of those fruity umbrella drinks here. This is a pub.

Paulina: I can down a beer when I need to, but to tell you the truth, um, I had an ulterior motive when I chose this place.

Abe: Uh-oh.

Paulina: Oh, relax, abraham. I just want to have a little chat with roman.

Kate: Lucas, I don’t know why you didn’t return my calls, but we need to strategize before your trial tomorrow.

Lucas: All right, mom, listen to me, all right

Kate: Okay, so what I’m thinking, what I believe is that you have to tell your attorney that you’re going to claim temporary insanity.

Lucas: It’s a little late for that.

Kate: Oh, come on. That’s not funny, okay? It’s not too late. I’m paying that man an exorbitant fee, so he can stay up all night if he has to.

Lucas: That’s not what I meant.

Kate: Lucas, come on. You and I both know you weren’t in your right mind when you kidnapped sami.

Lucas: Right, I acted on emotion. I’ll give you that, but i knew what I was doing. It was selfish and shortsighted, and i didn’t realize the emotional harm I was putting sami through, and it’s because of that, last night I decided to change my plea to guilty.

[Soft dramatic music]

Chloe: Oh, thank you for the good news, mom. Okay, I love you. I’ll talk to you soon.

Brady: What’s going on with nancy?

Chloe: She’s down at the police station with clyde, and as luck would have it, leo is there as well. They brought him in for questioning on some other matter.

Brady: [Chuckles] Of course they did. What did leo do now?

Chloe: I don’t know. Something about the tooth fairy? I wasn’t really following, but clyde id’d leo, and now the police have detained him.

Brady: Ah, that’s good. Maybe they’ll finally nail that weasel to the wall.

Chloe: Yeah, I hope so. I mean, he’s a creep and a gold digger, but do you really think he could be a cold-blooded murderer? Brady, hello? Earth to brady.

Brady: Hi, sorry, hi. Sorry, I’M… I was just thinking of kristen.

Kristen: Rolf? Rolf, are you here?

Li shin. What the hell are you doing here?

Abe: You didn’t mention to me that you wanted to talk to roman.

Paulina: Didn’t I?

Abe: No, and it makes me wonder why.

Paulina: I simply wanted to get his opinion on an important matter.

Abe: Ah, you’re trying to get backup.

Roman: Okay, all right, what am I missing here?

Paulina: Abraham and i have been having an ongoing conversation about whether he should launch a gubernatorial run.

Roman: Oh, so you’re still thinking about running for governor?

Abe: Not really.

Paulina: Yes, really.

[Chuckles] No one would make a better governor of this great state than abraham carver.

Roman: Hey, no arguments here, okay, but I am sensing some hesitation on the part of the candidate.

Paulina: [Sighs] Well, when I first pitched the idea, he was fully on board, but since then, he’s had second thoughts.

Abe: And third and fourth and fifth.

Paulina: I thought his best friend could help me persuade him to stay the course.

Roman: [Laughs] Okay, um, well, look, obviously I think abe would make a great governor or senator, president for that matter, but don’t you think it should be his decision?

Abe: Ooh, yes, yes.

Paulina: And that’s a very sensible answer, roman. Very sensible.

Abe: [Chuckles] So does this mean that you are going to drop this?

Paulina:[Sighs] For the moment. Hm, well, and now that we’ve established that roman is a man of good sense, when are you gonna have the good sense to forgive kate?

Kate: You did what?

Lucas: I changed my plea to guilty.

Kate: Okay, I–I heard what you said. Are you out of your mind?

Lucas: Well, you encouraged me to say I was insane.

Kate: Okay, so, you know, that’s not funny, and it’s also not funny that I haven’t heard from your lawyer who is on my payroll and hasn’t spoken to me in over 24 hours.

Lucas: I’m his client. I asked him not to.

Kate: Lucas, what’s going on with you? We totally agreed that you should fight the charges. What made you change your mind?

Lucas: Allie.

Allie: Oh, gabi, come sit. Uh, the reason that this goddess may seem so familiar to you is she is your niece arianna’s mother.

Alex: Gabi hernandez.

Gabi: Your niece?

Alex: Alex kiriakis.

Gabi: Oh, my god, that’s right, yeah, that’s right.

Alex: Gabi, I’m just gonna say this. Your pictures do not do you justice. And how the hell have we never crossed paths?

Alex: Okay, so my brother was hiding you from me.

Gabi: He said you were always busy.

Alex: Well, if I was working, then I had my priorities all messed up.

Alex: That is the best news I’ve heard all day.

Alex: What is a woman like you doing out on the town all alone?

Allie: All right, easy, pal. Before you get any ideas, she got a boyfriend.

Kate: Why would allie make you plead guilty?

Lucas: I don’t want her to hate me for the rest of her life.

Kate: Lucas, she doesn’t hate you.

Lucas: You should see the way she looks at me. She’s disgusted, okay? If I want to earn her respect back, I have to own up to what I did.

Kate: Oh, all right, so you actually think that allie wants to see her father behind bars?

Lucas: She wants accountability, all right? She wants me to take responsibility for what I’ve done. If I do that, maybe in the future, the door will be left open for her to trust me again.

Kate: Ugh, god. So what are you gonna do? Accept the consequences whatever those are?

Lucas: Yeah, it’s the only way to move forward.

Kate: Lucas. When is the sentencing?

Kate: Don’t even bother trying to talk me out of this, mom. It’s done. It’s a done deal.

Kate: What does that mean, “it’s a done deal”?

Lucas: I’ve already been sentenced. I’m headed to statesville.

Chloe: Ah, well, kristen’s only been out of statesville for a few days, and I swear we talk about her more than anything.

Brady: I know, and hey, I’m sorry. I’m sorry.

Chloe: What did she do now?

Brady: If I told you she came to see me earlier, and I tried to push her out of basic black.

Chloe: And that didn’t work.

Brady: No. What I didn’t tell you is that she threatened to go after custody of rachel.

Chloe: Oh, god, I’m sorry.

Brady: I know kristen’s dangerous, but I also know, chloe, that she loves her little girl, and I know rachel loves her mom. I don’t want to be the dad to keep rachel’s mom from her completely.

Chloe: So are you saying that you’re open to sharing custody?

Brady: It would be hard, but in theory, yeah.

Chloe: Do you think that’ll be enough for kristen?

Brady: I don’t know. And I wouldn’t put it past her to go after full custody. Hell, she might even try to take rachel and run. Either way, I could lose my little girl forever.

[Dramatic music]

Kristen: [Grunting]

[Devices beep] Okay, come on, stefan. Come on!

[Droning tone]

Roman: All right, so this is the real reason you’re here, to ambush me?

Paulina: To ambush you? I’m just being a friend here, a friend who wants what’s best for you, and that’s what abe wants too. Right, abe?

Abe: Oh, I do. I do. I just don’t think it’s our place to interfere.

Paulina: Roman, I’ve talked to kate, and she feels terrible that she didn’t come forward sooner.

Roman: Yeah, well, her feeling terrible, it’s not an excuse for what she did. She lied to me about lucas kidnapping my daughter.

Kate: She was a desperate mother trying to keep her son from prison. Be honest, now, roman, don’t you think if you were in her shoes, you might have done the same thing?

Roman: As a matter of fact, I was in her shoes.

Kate: So you’re going to prison?

Lucas: Yeah, I cut a deal with the da. I plead guilty to second-degree kidnapping.

Kate: [Sighs] What’s the sentence? The term?

Lucas: Charge like that usually carries a five-year sentence, but I talked him into a three-year sentence. Maybe I’ll have parole and maybe some time off with good behavior. Three years, it’s done?

Lucas: Yeah, it’s done. There’s no going back now.

Kate: You called me here why?

Lucas: To say goodbye.

Kate: Lucas.

[Sighs]

[Soft dramatic music]

Alex: This boyfriend, whoever he is, is a pretty lucky guy.

Gabi: I’m pretty lucky myself.

Chanel: Wait, I feel out of the loop here. Who is this guy?

Allie: You’re seeing li, right?

Gabi: Yeah, for a couple months now.

Alex: Is li exclusive?

Gabi: Yes.

Chanel: You really don’t give up, do you?

Alex: Never hurts to ask, chanel, remember that. So li, he’s the head of the dimera board, right?

Gabi: Yeah, he is. You know him?

Alex: Uh, I know about him. And you work for dimera too, huh?

Gabi: I do.

Alex: Working together, playing together. That’s tricky business.

Gabi: So far, so good.

Allie: Yeah, it’s so crazy. You know, some guys are actually confident enough to let their girlfriend have freedom.

Alex: Absolutely, and some guys just really appreciate what they have.

Gabi: He had to work. He had some unfinished business to do in our room.

Chanel: Oh, you hear that? Our room.

Alex: You heard that too? Must be pretty important.

Gabi: He’s in a conference call with his dad. He works hard. His dedication is one of the things I like the most about him.

Shin: What are you doing?

Kristen: Calling the police.

Shin: We both know you’re not gonna call the cops. How are you gonna explain all this? Your dead brother suddenly alive in a hidden lab.

Kristen: Well, I’m certainly not gonna let you try and kill him.

Shin: Is it even possible to kill a guy after he’s been dead four years?

Kristen: Oh, oh, my god, you’re the reason rolf was reluctant to wake him up. You wanted him to stay dead.

Shin: I’m the one who’s been funding rolf’s research here. I’m the reason your brother is still alive.

Kristen: And yet you didn’t tell a soul.

Shin: Rolf didn’t want to get the family’s hopes up until he was sure he could bring stefan back. When he was incarcerated, the whole experiment wa

Kristen: All right, mr. Shin, you’re done. I’m in charge of my brother’s care now, and I am gonna call up rolf, and I’m gonna have him wake him up right now.

[Dramatic music]

Roman: It was a very different situation, but I do know what it feels like to have a child facing a prison sentence.

Paulina: Well, if you’re talking about sami, I hear that’s practically an annual event.

Roman: I’m talking about my son eric.

Paulina: The ex-priest?

Roman: Eric was involved in a dui accident where a man was killed.

Paulina: [Gasps] Oh, how terrible.

Roman: Yeah, eric insisted on pleading guilty. Wanted to pay his debt to society. I could’ve bent the rules and made his path easier, but he didn’t want special treatment, so I didn’t give him any.

Paulina: He went to prison?

Roman: Yes, he did, and he served his time willingly, and he’s a better man for it today. So I do understand kate’s instinct to protect her son.

Abe: We all do.

Roman: Yeah, but if she goes out now and pays some hotshot lawyer to get these charges thrown out, lucas will never learn that lesson. He will never change his ways.

Paulina: Ah, oh, my. Why are men always so stubborn?

Abe: Ooh. Well, now it’s all men.

Paulina: Mm-hmm, just about. Oh, roman, you know, I’m not saying you don’t have the right to be mad at kate, but, well, life is short. None of us are getting any younger. Big mama always said, “when you find love, don’t cut off your nose to spite your face.”

Lucas: Mom, it’s gonna be okay, all right?

Kate: Okay.

[Sighs] First philip, now you.

Lucas: Well, you got philip the help he needed, and I’m doing what I have to do.

Kate: Prison isn’t mental health care, lucas.

Lucas: I know that, but I’m not sick, all right? I was stupid, I was lonely, I was impulsive, and I kept making bad decision after bad decision. I didn’t think about what it was doing to my children. I didn’t think about what it was doing to sami. I took her freedom, mom. And in order for me to atone for that, I have to give up my own freedom at least for a while.

Kate: Lucas.

Lucas: It’s really not the time for arguing.

Kate: I’m not gonna argue. I just want you to know that I am more proud of you than I have ever been.

Lucas: You’re proud to have a screwup for a son?

Kate: [Sighs] I am proud of you with all of my heart.

[Tender music]

Chloe: There’s no way that kristen’s gonna try to kidnap rachel again.

Brady: [Chuckles] No way? Really? Seriously?

Chloe: Well, rachel’s older now, and she barely knows her mother. It would terrify her.

Brady: Mm, you really think that’s gonna stop kristen?

Chloe: Look, I’m the last person to defend kristen dimera, but I do think she’s kind of a decent mom. I don’t think she would intentionally traumatize her daughter.

Brady: I hope you’re right about that.

Chloe: [Sighs] And do you really want to know why I know she won’t kidnap rachel and run?

Brady: [Chuckles] Why?

Chloe: Because she doesn’t only want her daughter back. She wants you back, brady. And kristen’s not going anywhere unless you’re following her.

[Soft dramatic music]

Shin: If you wake up stefan right now, how will that benefit you?

Kristen: Oh, I don’t know. My brother would be alive?

Kristen: You barely knew this man, and you certainly can’t count on his support at dimera. If he teams up with gabi, they’ll rule the roost, and you’ll be odd woman out.

Kristen: Yeah, well, I don’t want to run dimera.

Shin: So that’s your brilliant plan? Torture chloe through arduous documentation, endless nitpicking of her work product? And what’s the ultimate goal? To drive her out?

Kristen: Yeah, drive her out and away from brady.

Shin: Mm. Well, I’m thinking there might be a more efficient way of accomplishing that goal.

Kristen: All right, why don’t you tell me what it is?

Allie: Yeah, and she usually wins.

Alex: I don’t doubt it. You know, sonny told me that he thought you might have tried to poach a company that he was trying to acquire.

Gabi: I didn’t do that, and I told him, and he believed me.

Alex: Well, I believe you.

Gabi: Why? Anyone you ask will tell you I’m famously untrustworthy.

Alex: I don’t know about that. I get a good vibe from you, gabi, and I happen to be an outstanding judge of character.

Gabi: [Chuckles softly]

Paulina: You know, kate hated my guts when I first came to town.

Roman: I remember.

Paulina: Ah, she had her reasons, some of them valid.

Abe: Some?

Paulina: But eventually, we realized that we belong to a club no one wants to be a part of.

Roman: What club is that?

Paulina: We each spent years living in fear of men who tormented us.

Roman: That’s right. I am sorry about that.

Abe: You don’t have to relive this if you don’t want to.

Paulina: Oh, no, no, it’s okay. It’s really okay, abe. I want to say this. I relate to kate’s situation. My chanel is a lot like her lucas. I spoiled her rotten to make up for what I couldn’t do for lani.

Roman: Well, it seems to me like chanel is doing just fine. She started her own business. She’s taking responsibility for her life.

Paulina: Yeah, it took a while to get there.

Roman: Because you forced her to. You made her take responsibility. Kate doesn’t see that her kids need that. Hell, lucas is a grandfather. He doesn’t need to be coddled like a little kid, and if that doesn’t change, I don’t see anything changing between me and kate.

[Soft dramatic music]

Lucas: And thank you for understanding. And now it’s time to tell allie that I kept my promise to her.

Kate: [Sighs] Hey, uh, you think you could put in a good word for me with allie?

Lucas: She’s gonna forgive you. It’s me she’s mad at.

Shin: As you’ll recall, chloe caught your brother’s eye before he had an interest in gabi.

Kristen: Yeah, but then he moved on.

Shin: Nonetheless, he was quite taken with her. Maybe they could recapture that old spark.

Kristen: Hmm, stefan and chloe.

Shin: Dr. Rolf is a wizard with the human brain. That torch your brother carried for chloe, perhaps its dying embers could be revived and new life breathed into it.

[Soft dramatic music]

Kristen: Let’s say stefan is somehow brainwashed into being interested in chloe. That doesn’t mean that chloe is gonna be interested in him. She loves brady.

Shin: Good. Rolf’s already given him one change of heart. How hard would it be to give him another?

Alex: So did you have a favorite?

Gabi: This last one was pretty smooth.

Allie: Oh, yeah, I’d love that, and–right, alex, I mean, you were saying how you wanted to meet new people in town.

Alex: Yeah, definitely, the more the merrier. Bring, uh, guy.

Chanel: And you promised us a five-star dinner.

Allie: Mm.

Alex: Is there any five-star restaurant in salem that I don’t know about?

Chanel: We’ll settle for four.

Allie: Actually, I’m really glad that we came here. It was very entertaining.

Gabi: Yeah, it was. You know, actually, I’m gonna head out.

Chanel: It was really nice to meet you.

Roman: [Sighs] What is it, kate?

Kate: Um, I thought that you should know that lucas changed his plea to guilty, and he’s going to prison.

Roman: Wow. I’m sorry.

Kate: Are you?

Roman: Yes, I am. I’m sorry for you. That’s gotta be a tough pill to swallow, but I am glad that lucas finally did the right thing.

Kate: Well, there’s more.

Paulina: Oh, goodie, there’s more.

Kate: I realized that I need to make things right, so I talked to my lawyer, and i told him that I intend to plead guilty to accessory after the fact.

Roman: What, what? Why would you do that?

Kate: It’s never too late to do the right thing, roman.

Gabi: Li.

Shin: Oh, hi.

Gabi: Hi. I thought you’d still be on your conference call.

Shin: Um, it ended a few minutes ago. I was just down at the business center sending a fax.

Gabi: Fax? What century are we in?

Shin: My father’s old fashioned.

Gabi: How’d the meeting go?

Shin: There was a promising exchange of ideas. We’ll just have to wait and see if they come to fruition.

Brady: Mm. See, I told you. Told you there was nothing that kristen could do to come between us.

Chloe: Okay, shh, shh. Just shh.

Maggie: The young lady that I found you entertaining in your bedroom?

Alex: Oh, right, right, right, no, not her.

Maggie: Okay. So who’s the lucky girl?

Alex: Well, actually, it’s two lucky girls.

[Knocks]

Chanel: Allie! Sorry I’m late, but we gotta get a move on if we wanna make it to the bar.

Allie: Wow, you look amazing.

Chanel: I got this back when I was in south beach, but I think it still works. And I take it you agree?

Allie: Yeah, I definitely have to borrow it.

Chanel: Speaking of which, um, why aren’t you dressed yet? Time’s a flyin’, horton.

Allie: What do you mean? I’m wearing this.

Ej: Hmm, and after harold went to all this trouble to make a gourmet meal for three. But the upside is, now that it’s just the two of us, it’ll give me a chance to get to know you a lot better.

Johnny: Ahh, dinner, great. What are we having? I’m starved.

Kristen: [Sighs] Well, stefan, it looks like the rumors of your demise have been greatly exaggerated.

Li: So, rolf, did you have any trouble convincing kristen stefan suffered a setback on his road to recovery? I’m glad to hear it. Because the last thing I need is stefan O. Dimera returning to the land of the living.

Li: Gabi just walked in. I’ll have to speak to you later.

Gabi: Did you forget something?

Gabi: To your mother. I’m assuming that was her on the phone?

Li: Oh, uh, no. That was just business.

Li: So how was your day?

Gabi: It was long. And, uh, it’s not over yet. I need to discuss some dimera business with you.

Li: What sort of business?

Gabi: Just some stuff that came up today, including the job that I promised ava.

Ej: Actually, son, this place was for ava’s friend, gwen.

Ava: But she had to leave. It–it’s okay if–if johnny joins us, right? I mean, harold went to all this trouble to make dinner for three. I’d hate to see any of it go to waste.

Ej: Of course. Please, johnny, join us.

Johnny: Don’t mind if I do. I’m surprised we’re eating in here instead of the, uh, dining room, though.

Ava: Oh, that was my idea, actually. I thought we could keep it casual for tonight.

Johnny: Ah. We certainly can. It’s nice to have a, uh, change every once in a while.

Ej: Oh, forgive me, son. I didn’t get a chance to tell you, but ava is going to be living with us. Since your uncle jake died, I thought the least I could do was allow his widow to stay in our family home.

Johnny: Yeah, I’m sure her dimera shares had nothing to do with it.

Ej: What was that?

Johnny: Hmm? Oh, no, I just, uh, I just said that I already knew she had moved in. In fact, auntie ava and I have seen quite a lot of each other.

Maggie: Did you just say that you have a date with two girls?

Alex: That’s right. I met them this afternoon, and we hit it off immediately.

Maggie: And they agreed to go out with you together? Huh, how modern of them.

Alex: Relax, auntie. It’s not a date-date. However, I wouldn’t have a problem with it if it were.

Maggie: [Sighs]

Alex: Look, you’re not gonna have to worry about finding either of these girls in my bed. Trust me, they only have eyes for each other.

Chanel: That’s what you’re wearing?

Allie: Yeah. Why? What’s wrong with it?

Allie: But?

Allie: So? You’re worried I won’t make a good impression?

Allie: Okay, good. ‘Cause honestly, after working at sweet bits all day, like, the last thing I wanna do is put on a pair of heels.

Allie: Okay, yeah, probably not.

Chanel: Exactly. I see you all day, every day, when we’re both covered in sweat and flour and our makeup is sweated off. Tony: Kristen. I hope we’re not disturbing your evening.

Anna: Well, it was tony’s idea to come here.

Kristen: And I’m sure you objected to it.

Anna: Well, I’m here, am I not?

Kristen: Anna, what exactly is your problem with me?

Anna: [Laughs] Oh, where do I begin? Aside from the fact that you kidnapped abigail, who happened to be my favorite sister-in-law, you married tony when you were posing as nicole, and then you wouldn’t give him a divorce.

Kristen: Okay, sorry I asked.

Anna: Not to mention the fact that you were responsible for making tony kill that poor ted person, and then you took your sweet time getting him off the hook.

Kristen: Okay, okay, okay, I get the idea. All right, um, but assuming you didn’t come just to have anna recite the litany of my crimes, why are you here?

Ej: What are all these looks between the two of you? Is there a private joke I’m not privy to?

Johnny: No, just, like–like I said, I-I already knew that ava had moved in.

Ej: And that’s amusing, for some reason?

Johnny: Uh, well, there’s more to it, but I’ll leave it at that.

Ava: Oh, no, it’s okay. You can explain.

Johnny: Oh, okay, well, since it’s okay with you, ava. Uh, earlier this afternoon, I was looking for uncle chad, and so I stopped by what I thought was his bedroom, and then I walked in on ava naked.

Ej: Oh, I’m so sorry, ava. Please allow me to apologize on my son’s behalf.

Ava: There’s no need, considering that i saw johnny naked too.

[Jazz music]

Li: This is ava vitali we’re talking about here?

Gabi: I told you about the deal I had to make with her, how she demanded a job or she wouldn’t agree to pretend to be married to jake.

Li: She was clearly determined to get her money’s worth out of the bargain.

Gabi: You don’t know the half of it. She demanded a seat on the board, but don’t worry, I put the kibosh on that one.

Li: Why do you have to give her a job at all?

Gabi: I told you, she insisted.

Li: Oh, I-I understand the agreement, but why do you have to honor it? Ava’s only leverage is that she can expose your fraudulent claim that she and jake were married, but if she exposes you–

Gabi: She’ll be exposing herself as well.

Li: Either way, ava ends up with nothing.

Gabi: You’re right. I-I do hold all the cards.

Li: No doubt about it.

Gabi: But, you know, ava’s a very shrewd woman, okay? She was the head of the vitali crime family. I mean, she’s living under ej’s roof, which I’m sure she’s gonna use as some sort of advantage.

Li: I see what you mean. Who knows what they could be planning over there?

Gabi: Besides, the whole point of this was to keep control of jake’s shares. If I blow ava out of the water, then there’s a possibility ej could have them, and the–then I’d be really screwed. Even though I don’t want to, I may just have to give ava a job, or maybe just string her along long enough to take control of the shares.

Li: Why do I have the feeling that that’s something you’re particularly good at?

Gabi: It’s because you know I’m a woman of many talents.

Li: Indeed, you are. And I have no doubt that you will outsmart ava vitali. She may be shrewd, but she’s no match for you.

Tony: Yes, well, it seems that our dear brother has gotten a bit power mad in the wake of jake’s death.

Kristen: Ahh. So you understand the position I’m in. With the balance of power so precarious, one person’s shares represents a lot of control. And I am not willing to give that up.

Ej: Putting aside the discussion of your mutual nudity–

Ava: No need to change the topic on my behalf.

Ej: Johnny, is there any word on the chanel front? I know waiting in this limbo is very trying, but, while allie is a lovely girl, I have no doubt that she is going to choose you in the end.

Johnny: Dad, listen–

Ej: Look, I know–I know you don’t want to tempt fate by appearing too confident, which is admirable, certainly, especially after everything you’ve gone through these past few months. But having seen you and chanel before things went awry, I could tell that the woman was head over heels in love with you, which is why I have no doubt that she–

Allie: Well, actually, I-I took–I took a little while to figure out, to admit, I guess, but I definitely felt something that night, and then everything changed for me.

Ej: Chanel chose allie? Johnny, I’m so sorry. And how could you know about all this before I did?

Johnny: Allie stopped by earlier and, uh, she started going off on me. Ava was witness to that.

Ej: I don’t get it. Why would she be mad at you?

Johnny: Uh, I may have spoken with paulina to, um, you know, try and get chanel back.

Ej: After she proved herself unworthy of you? I assume this was paulina’s idea, eager to get her paws in your pockets again.

Johnny: No, it was my idea. But that’s beside the point. Anyway, ava overheard me with allie, and she defended me.

Ej: Apparently, you two know each other better than I thought.

Ava: Well, we’re all living under the same roof now.

Ej: Mmm, true. Thanks to the sad fact that we lost another dimera. I would like to make a toast. To jake, your husband, your uncle, and my brother. I just wish we got to know him a lot better, to know the man that you fell in love with, ava. He must have been very special to sweep you off your feet so quickly that you were ready to marry him after only a few short weeks together.

Ava: Months.

Ej: Hmm. Johnny, I expect you to do your part as well.

Johnny: M-me? Wh–what am I supposed to do?

Ej: Well, now that my brother is no longer here, it is our duty as a dimera to stand in his stead and support ava through her grief. Allie: Uh, well, you could say there were a few twists and–and turns.

Alex: Like what?

Chanel: Like I married her twin brother first.

Ej: Don’t you dare try to shut me up, johnny.

Johnny: Somebody had to. Could you not see you’re upsetting her?

Ava: It’s okay, johnny.

Johnny: No, it’s not.

Ej: Stay out of this, damn it. I am sorry, ava. I had no intention of causing you any more pain.

Johnny: I wonder then, what–what did you think you were doing? Going on about how her husband just died? He just died. You’re talking about how–how tragic of a loss it is, like she doesn’t already know that or feel that.

Ej: I was simply conveying to ava that I understood the magnitude of her loss.

Ava: And I got that, ej. I did. It’s just that, um, I’m feeling a little bit vulnerable right now.

[Soft dramatic music]

Ava: It’s okay, johnny. Really, it is. I know that your father didn’t mean any harm.

Tony: Perhaps I can talk to ej on your behalf.

Kristen: Oh, no, don’t trouble yourself, tony.

Tony: No, no, no, it’s no trouble at all. After all, he moved ava vitali into the mansion without demanding that she hand over jake’s shares.

Kristen: Yeah, but give him time.

Tony: Kristen, listen. I understand your desire to hold on to your position in the family power structure, but surely, you can’t be comfortable here.

Anna: Darling, I think you underestimate your sister’s ability to adapt to any circumstance. And who are we to interrupt her in her adventure?

Tony: Surely, there must be other accommodations that you could find that you could comfortable in.

Kristen: No, I-I’m–actually, I’m quite comfortable here, in the home my brother made before he died. Makes me feel, uh, close to him.

Anna: Well, is that why you’re reading his obituary? To feel warm and comfortable?

Kristen: Give that to me.

Anna: Wait a minute. Wait a minute. This isn’t jake’s obituary. This is stefan’S.

Gabi: I–I did love jake. Don’t get me wrong. I just didn’t love him the way I loved stefan.

Li: From everything you’ve told me, he was the love of your life.

Gabi: He was.

Li: He was very lucky to have you.

Gabi: I did love stefan with all my heart, but he’s gone now, and he’s not a threat to us. And I–I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to love somebody the same way again, but I-I hope so. I hope it’s a deep, passionate love.

Li: I’m glad to know that door’s still open.

Gabi: It is. And when I’m ready to walk through it with somebody, I’ll take this ring off. I just–it’s just been a lot harder to, um, I guess, let go of stefan’s heart.

Li: A fact that julie williams knows all too well.

Gabi: Mmm, that old bat got what she deserved. It’s not like I wasn’t punished for it. I mean, you, you helped chad oust me from dimera over it.

Li: Which I will forever regret. If it’s any consolation, I didn’t know you then the way I do now.

Gabi: So it’s okay that I still wear this?

Li: [Chuckles] Of course. As you said, stefan’s no threat to us, since he’s dead. Time. It’s life’s most precious commodity,

Alex: So, chanel, after you divorced allie’s brother?

Chanel: I decided I’d rather be with allie after all.

Alex: Wow.

Allie: Yeah. So that’s basically the cliffnotes version.

Chanel: Yeah, but that’s pretty much it.

Alex: Wow, it’s gonna make for some interesting thanksgiving conversation.

Allie: Oh, yeah, you don’t even know the half of it. Johnny actually already enlisted chanel’s mother to break us up.

Alex: Oh, the plot thickens.

Chanel: Yeah, no. But that’s not gonna happen. I already told my mother to back the hell off, that nobody, not johnny, not anyone, is gonna come between allie and me.

Alex: Whew.

Allie: You really said that?

Chanel: Yeah. Nobody can.

[Jazz music]

Alex: Wow. So in love. So hot.

Ej: If you’ll excuse me, I’ll go see what’s keeping our next course.

Ava: Well.

Johnny: [Chuckles] Why do I get the feeling harold is about to get raked across the coals? What could possibly be the reason for this interminable delay?

Ava: [Chuckles] Well, your father certainly runs a tight ship.

Johnny: Oh, yeah.

Ava: Controlling much?

Johnny: Well, controlling always. He can also be pretty insensitive at times. I’m sorry about him going on about jake before.

Ava: Nah, don’t worry about it. Thanks for having my back.

Johnny: That seemed only fair. After all, you had mine with allie.

Ava: Well, like I said, we’re all living under the same roof now, and in my book, that means we take care of each other.

Johnny: Especially since we’re all dimeras.

Ava: Oh, most certainly.

[Soft dramatic music]

Anna: Kristen?

[Chuckles] Why are you reading stefan’s obituary?

Kristen: Uh, well, anna, it’s a natural instinct, isn’t it? Since jake and stefan were twins, when jake died, I couldn’t help but think about stefan and the tragic way his life ended.

Anna: Yes, stefan’s death certainly was tragic, but I’m surprised you’d wanna relive it, especially since your good friend, lani, is the one who killed him.

Kristen: Okay, that was an accident. Lani didn’t mean to shoot stefan. If it was anyone’s fault, it was vivian’S. Stefan was a fool to jump in front of that bullet to sacrifice himself for that wretched woman.

Tony: Yeah, it really is something, though, to have two brothers cut down in their prime and leaving two widows behind. I recall how devastated gabi was when she found out that stefan had died. And–and I recall how she was imploring dr. Rolf to bring him back to us, but there are certain circumstances that even dr. Rolf can’t circumvent.

Anna: Well, as lovely as this has all been, uh, we should be going.

Tony: Well, yeah, yeah, let’s go. Yeah, you take care. But listen. Um, we’ve all had a bit of a checkered past, but we’re all family, so I’m gonna do my best to see if I can get ej to, convince him, allow you back into the mansion.

Kristen: Well, I won’t hold my breath, but thank you. Oh. Bye, anna.

Tony: Take care.

Li: Is there a problem?

Gabi: Only that i am starving. How ’bout we go get, um, fortified and then come right back to what we just started?

Li: Oh, actually, I promised my father I’d call him tonight, give him an update about dimera. I–I’m afraid it might take a while.

Gabi: It’s okay. I don’t mind going solo.

Li: You sure?

Gabi: As long as I get to see you later.

Li: Only see me?

Gabi: We’ll start there.

Chanel: Mm-hmm. That way, you can do your own kissing instead of staring at us.

Allie: I don’t know. I don’t–I don’t know if I wanna subject anyone that we know to, um, you.

Chanel: I don’t know, maybe. I mean, some of our friends are pretty hard up.

Tony: You know, with any luck, maybe I can change ej’s mind about kristen. Can you imagine as many dimeras as possible under one roof? Oh, but they’re scattered to the four winds, and–um, you have no comment?

Anna: Have I not made myself clear, tony, how I feel? The last thing any of us needs is kristen hanging around in this house making trouble. But god forbid you should listen to me.

Tony: I realize she’s made our lives difficult on a few–

Anna: Well, yes, except for the present, you know, the here and now. And if you weren’t so oblivious and so determined to be loyal to your horrible sister, who’s loyal only to her nasty, amoral self, who’s meaner than a junkyard dog–

Anna: Do you, tony? Do you? Do you realize that that woman is hiding something?

Tony: Like what?

Anna: Well, how would I know? I just know that she was acting very suspiciously to me.

Tony: Well, maybe she was just kristen being kristen.

Anna: Oh, come on, tony. Your brother, stefan, died years ago. And now suddenly, she decides to read his obituary?

Tony: But she explained that. She was thinking how stefan had died so similarly to jake. I thought it made sense.

Anna: Well, yes, maybe it does make sense. And maybe it would make sense if she was a normal, sane human being, but this is kristen dimera we’re talking about. And I don’t know what it is, tony, but I’m darn sure she’s up to something.

Kristen: Rolf? Rolf, are you here?

Eric: Well, I saw a book I recommended for mom, so I picked it up, and I thought I’d bring it over.

Belle: Aw, that’s really sweet. Um, she just went to dinner with a colleague, though. But I bet if you text her she’d like to meet you for dessert or coffee or something after.

Eric: Yeah, well, I’ll text her later. What’s up with the bags? You going somewhere on business?

Belle: Uh, actually, no. It’s more of a personal trip. I’m moving back home.

[Both chuckle]

[Phone rings]

Shawn: What’s up, partner? You look a little rattled.

Jada: [Sighs] I just met with da trask.

Shawn: Oh, yeah. She’s a ray of sunshine, isn’t she?

Jada: She read me the whole riot act on why we haven’t closed the abigail dimera case yet.

Shawn: Yeah, I got an earful from her earlier as well. And, uh–yeah. Was she on the, uh– then lucas horton kick or was she on the sarah horton kick?

Jada: Both. And I got a nice long rant about clyde weston. She’s furious that we released him.

Shawn: The guy had an airtight alibi.

Jada: I reminded her of that. But she’s stuck on the fact that he was in possession of the victim’s stolen bracelet.

Shawn: Honestly, so am I.

Jada: Who’s this “guy” that weston claims to have bought it from?

Shawn: I don’t know. But we need to find out.

Nancy: So you saw the guy who–who sold you the bracelet?

Clyde: Yeah, he was here two minutes ago, threw a drink in my face, and ran out the door.

Brady: But you got a good look at him, right?

Clyde: Oh, you bet I did.

Chloe: Well, that’s great. You can identify him now, right?

Brady: And help the police finally bring abigail’s murderer to justice.

Thomas: Look, there he is!

Chad: You saw that man at our house?

Thomas: He’s not a man. He’s a fairy.

Chad: When? When was this?

Thomas: The day mommy went to heaven.

Chad: I want you to stay right here. Daddy’s gonna go talk to the tooth fairy, okay?

Thomas: Can I come?

Chad: No. Listen, thomas? I want you to stay right here. Do you promise me?

Thomas: I promise.

[Phone rings]

Jada: Medium height, brown hair, average weight. You know, I wish clyde would have given us a better description.

Shawn: Well, maybe we should bring him in tomorrow and meet with a sketch artist.

Jada: Good idea. So how did things go with your wife earlier?

Shawn: Actually, it went– it went pretty well. She’s–she’s moving back home tonight.

Jada: Shawn, that’s great! Do you want to leave early? I can cover for you.

Shawn: No, no, no, no. Thank you, though. No, we’re meeting up later.

Jada: Good luck. I know how it feels, hoping for reconciliation. I went through it with my ex-husband.

Shawn: I–I didn’t know you’re divorced.

Jada: [Sighs] It was a stupid thing for me to bring up.

Shawn: No, it’s okay.

Jada: Obviously, my marriage didn’t last, but I’m sure you and belle will work things out. Please, forget I said anything.

Shawn: Come one, jada. Seriously, it’s fine. All right? And if you don’t mind me asking, was the divorce recent? I mean, is that the reason why you moved to salem? You know, to, uh…I don’t know, get a change of scenery?

Jada: Uh, it’s been a while, actually.

Shawn: Oh. Well… are you, uh–are you okay?

Jada: [Sighs] You know, when you–when you get married, you don’t– you don’t think it’s gonna fall apart. So when things do fall apart, you feel like a failure. You know what I mean? I mean, at least I did. But as more time goes on and I can move past that, I–I feel like I can forgive myself. Yeah. In fact, I had a date today.

Shawn: Wait, how–how did– wait, how did you squeeze that in?

Jada: On my lunch break.

Shawn: Oh. That’s what you meant when you were like, “oh, I got somewhere to be.” Was it good?

Jada: Uh, it was.

Shawn: Was he nice?

Jada: Very. Uh, actually, you know him. It’s your brother-in-law, eric.

Eric: Belle, that’s fanta– oh, my god, that’s great news.

Belle: Thanks.

Both: Yeah.

Eric: You want to tell me about it? I mean, you don’t have to.

Belle: No, of course. I’ll tell you about it. Well, you know that evan took the baby back from shawn.

Both: Yeah.

Belle: And, obviously, shawn’s very, very heartbroken about it, and I just want to be there for him. And I thought if I move back in, maybe we could work on our marriage, too.

Eric: Yeah, well, helping him through after losing a baby, that’s very big of you.

Belle: Mm, well, don’t give me too much credit. If that baby had been shawn’s with jan, I don’t know if I would be moving back in.

Eric: Well, that’s not a concern now.

Belle: [Sighs] You know the baby wasn’t the source of all of our problems. There is still the fact that I slept with ej when shawn and I were separated. And that’s not something he can just get over. I know sami never will.

Eric: And shawn? Is he willing to try?

Belle: Yeah, he is. You know? I think we both know that fixing this, fixing us, is gonna take some time. But I think moving back in is a good first step.

Brady: This guy has to be the one that killed abigail.

Nancy: That’s what I’ve been saying all along.

Brady: Clyde, you need to tell the police what you just told us. That–that you just ran into the guy that gave you abigail’s bracelet and he’s on the loose.

Nancy: Yes, now that you’ve seen him again, you can give them a better description.

Brady: Yeah, yeah. Know what? I’m gonna give rafe a call.

Clyde: Not so fast.

Chad: Hey, leo, going somewhere?

Leo: Oh, chad, I didn’t see you.

Chad: Yeah, I think you did.

Leo: Something I can do for you?

Chad: Yeah. You want to tell me what you were doing in my basement the day my wife was murdered? Migraine hits hard, so u hit back with ubrelvy

Shawn: What, you went on a– you went on a date with eric?

Jada: Are you– are you not okay with that?

Shawn: No, I’m– I’m fine with it. I’m actually– I’m actually more than fine with it.

Jada: Okay. Because I–you know, I don’t want to step on any toes or create any weirdness.

Shawn: How would you do that?

Jada: I mean, you gotta admit, the situation’s a little complicated. Eric was married to nicole, and now she’s married to our boss.

Shawn: Happily married, jada. I don’t think you need to worry about anything, all right? I think everybody’s over it. They’ve moved on. I mean, obviously eric has. And nicole and rafe, they’re still in the middle of newlywed bliss.

Rafe: Knock, knock. [Knocks]

Nicole: [Gasps] Oh, what a surprise. To what do I owe this pleasure?

Rafe: Well, you came by yesterday, hoping to go to dinner, and I couldn’t go. So…I’m here to make it up to you. To take out my beautiful wife.

Nicole: Aw. Well, my handsome husband, I would love that.

Rafe: Yeah?

Nicole: Yeah.

Rafe: You sure you can knock off?

Nicole: Well, brady and chloe left for the day, so why can’t I?

Rafe: Oh, why? Oh, looks– look at that.

Nicole: [Chuckles]

Rafe: Wow. Upgrade the crutches for a cane, huh?

Nicole: Yes. Yes, I did.

Rafe: I got a better idea.

[Cane clatters] Here.

Nicole: Aw.

Rafe: How’s that?

Nicole: It’s perfect.

Rafe: [Indistinct]

Nicole: Yeah.

Rafe: You’re perfect.

Nicole: [Chuckles] Oh, stop.

[Chuckling]

Brady: You won’t speak to rafe?

Chloe: Yeah, what’s going on, clyde?

Clyde: I just can’T.

Nancy: Of course you can. If you tell the police what he looks like, then they’ll find him. And–and then they’ll lock him up. And then you’ll be a hero.

Clyde: No, I ain’t no hero.

Nancy: What do you mean?

Clyde: Nancy, when I told you that I knew it was stolen when I gave you the bracelet, it wasn’t the whole story. Nancy, I’m sorry. I have a confession to make.

Chad: The hell were you doing in my house, leo?

Leo: Uh, nothing, because I wasn’t there.

Chad: Hmm. See that little boy over there? That’s my son, thomas. He pointed at you, and you took off.

Leo: As I said before, I didn’t see you. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m late for an appointment.

Chad: Yeah, he told me that he met you in the basement the day my wife was murdered. See, now all of the sudden a bunch of things that didn’t make sense are starting to make perfect sense.

Leo: Like what?

Chad: Like the day I saw you at the park. The day of abby’s funeral. You said your heart went out to my children.

Leo: That was sincere.

Chad: You also said that thomas was a sweet child.

Chad: I asked you how you knew him, you said you didn’T. Said that you heard it from gwen. See, I think you– I think you did know him. I think you met him when you were hiding in our basement. You told him you were the tooth fairy.

Leo: [Scoffs] Now I’ve heard everything. Obviously, he’s making it up.

Chad: Are you telling me my son’s lying?

Leo: Or he’s mistaken. He’s got me confused with some other fairy. Now, like I said before, I’m in a hurry.

Chad: You are not going anywhere but the police station.

Sonny: Hey, chad, it’s sonny. Look, I was just thinking about our conversation earlier, about you taking a job at titan. I know you said you’re fine with alex taking the vp position, but if there’s any part of you that’s interested, I know that there are plenty of positions that you would be more than qualified for. I just–I think you would be a huge asset to titan. And, selfishly, I think it would be a blast to work together. So… also, I gotta say, I’m still pretty pissed off at uncle vic for hiring alex without telling me, but– just…give me a call back.

[Phone beeps] As long as you’re not pissed off at your brother. Flo, you’re here.

Alexander: [Sighs] Man, am I exhausted.

Sonny: From what? I didn’t even see you working all day.

Alexander: Yeah, because i was in hr all day, filling out all that damn paperwork. It was endless, seriously. You’re not, though, right?

Sonny: I’m not what?

Alexander: Mad as hell at me for taking over the exec vp job?

Sonny: No, alex. Look, I already told you, okay? Uncle vic is the one who went behind my back. You were just offered a job and you took it.

Alexander: Without lobbying for it. I swear to god to you, sonny, I–when uncle vic offered me the job, I was incredulous. You know? I knew it was not cool that you weren’t part of that discussion, and I told uncle vic that sonny should be here, too.

Sonny: And then he said, “who’s sonny?”

Alexander: Would you stop? You are uncle victor’s favorite kiriakis brother and you know that.

Sonny: No, actually, I don’T.

Alexander: [Scoffs]

Sonny: I don’t at all. At least not in a business sense. Do you know the amount of times he’s told me that I will never be as successful as he is because I don’t have, like, a killer instinct or whatever?

Alexander: Yeah, sonny. That’s because unlike uncle vic, you actually have blood running through your veins. Not that I don’t love the old guy, but I don’t think either of us should try to emulate him.

Sonny: No matter how hard I tried, I don’t think I could emulate uncle vic.

Alexander: Well, that’s a good thing.

Sonny: [Sighs] Yeah. I guess I just– look, I’m–I’m totally okay with you taking the job. The one thing I’m not okay with is being disrespected. You know, uncle vic, he pushed so hard for me to be ceo. And I took all this time away from will. And, really, I made these big changes in my life. And then he makes this huge business decision behind my back. It’s just–

Alexander: Hey, he knows we’re brothers, that you worship me. Oh, yeah, when we were kids, you worshipped me.

Sonny: Well, in case you haven’t noticed, we’re not kids anymore, so– least not physically.

Alexander: Okay, seriously? I think uncle vic thought, since this is a family business and we are family, that maybe you wouldn’t mind working closely with me.

Sonny: Right, that’S… probably what he thought.

Alexander: But was he wrong? Sonny, you got an issue working with me?

Sonny: [Sighs]

Nicole: Aw.

Rafe: Here we go.

Both: Yay.

Nicole: Thank you. [Chuckles]

Rafe: All right, there.

[Chuckles and smooches] How is the ankle?

Nicole: It is almost 100%. Thank you. And, uh, thank you for letting me lean on you.

Rafe: Always.

Nicole: This is so nice. Dining al fresco on a beautiful summer night. And I am so glad you were able to get out. ‘Cause I know how much pressure you’ve been feeling at work.

Rafe: Yeah. Well, actually, it has eased up a bit, since shawn’s come back from paternity leave, and jada hunter has joined the team, so–

Nicole: Wow, she’s been doing some job, huh? I know she was with you when you tracked down the guy who robbed me. I mean, that had to be really intense.

Rafe: Yeah, yeah. Yeah. [Chuckles] That was. No, um, jake was–was there lying on the ground, fatally wounded, as it– as it turned out. And, um, the guy was ready to shoot ava.

Nicole: And jada saved her life.

Rafe: Yeah. And a lot of cops would have frozen or freaked out in that situation, but… she did the right thing. But she was definitely a little shaken up afterward.

Nicole: I can imagine.

Rafe: Yeah. She killed someone in the line of duty. It was a clean shoot. She knows that. I know that. But she’s still struggling with it. But–[Sighs] That tells me that she’s not only a good detective but a good person with a good conscience.

Nicole: It sounds like she’s working out great.

Rafe: Yes, she is. Uh, she’s great. And, uh, I actually made her partners with shawn, and he really likes her.

Nicole: Oh. So does eric.

Rafe: Eric?

Nicole: Oh. Oh, you haven’t heard. He and jada are dating.

Eric: I have a very good feeling about you and shawn. Especially after I heard you went to see him at the station today.

Belle: How’d you hear that?

Eric: Jada told me.

Belle: Wait, jada hunter, shawn’s new partner?

Eric: Yeah, that’s the one.

Belle: How do you know her?

Eric: Well, uncle stevie introduced me to her when she got to salem. Said that she was looking for a place to live. And I told her that my dad, you know, he rents out rooms over the pub. And, uh, she actually ended up taking one.

Belle: Well, I only met her in passing, but she seemed really great. Shawn seems to like her a lot already. And I’m sure you noticed that she’s very attractive.

Eric: Stop.

Belle: You should ask her out.

Nancy: There’s more to the story? You mean about the bracelet you gave me?

Clyde: Yeah. And it’s time I told you.

Chloe: Okay, well, let’s hear it. All of it.

Clyde: [Sighs] When I met the guy in the pub, he said he had some items that he was looking to sell, specifically some jewelry. He gave me some song and dance about them belonging to a dearly departed aunt, but I knew from the beginning the stuff was hot.

Brady: And?

Clyde: And I offered to fence it for him. And I just–I wanted to give you something special to let you know how much I care about you.

Brady: Nothing says “I love you” like stolen jewelry from a murder victim.

Clyde: Hey, man, I had no idea where he got the jewelry, much less that he killed anybody to get it.

Brady: But you partnered with him. You offered to fence the stolen goods. That’s why you don’t want to talk to the police.

Clyde: Nancy… obviously what I did is a violation of my parole. If the cops find out, they’re gonna send me back to prison.

Leo: Get your hands off of me, chad.

Shawn: Whoa, what the hell’s going on here?

Leo: Chad won’t leave me alone. I mean, I know he’s obsessed with me, but–

Chad: Shut up. When my son and were at the square–

Shawn: Is thomas okay?

Chad: No, thomas is fine. He’s with detective hunter. She’s keeping an eye on him.

Shawn: So what’s leo doing here?

Chad: Long story short, he killed my wife. My asthma felt anything but normal.

Brady: What the hell? Are you really gonna refuse to cooperate with the police when it could lead to abigail’s killer?

Nancy: Look, I know the two of you are upset–

Chloe: We’re upse– you should be upset! You should be outraged, mom. This man has done nothing but lie to you. Now he’s obstructing justice?

Nancy: Stop it. I am upset. And I hear you. But, please, can I just have a moment to speak with him about this?

Chloe: I–I don’t see the point, but fine.

Nancy: Clyde, you promised me that you wouldn’t lie to me again. “The god’s honest truth.” That’s what you said.

Clyde: I know. And I hate what I did. But I can’t go back to prison.

Nancy: We don’t know for sure that you would.

Clyde: Nancy, fencing is a crime.

Chloe: Yeah, but if you tell rafe the truth, then, you know, you could help him catch a killer. And they might go easier on you.

Clyde: Well, even if I do give him a description, there’s no guarantee they’re gonna catch him. He’s probably long gone by now.

Nancy: Well… did he give you–or did he talk anything about himself? Did he–did he give you any clues as to who he is?

Clyde: No. All I know is he’s a wine-swilling twerp in a floral-print suit.

Both: Leo.

Shawn: You think leo killed abigail?

Leo: Based on some absurd story his kid told him. The whole thing is ridiculous.

Chad: Thomas told me that the day abby died, he ran into leo in our basement.

Leo: He also told you that I claimed to be the tooth fairy.

Shawn: The tooth fairy?

Leo: As I said, absurd.

Chad: When we were in the square, thomas pointed at leo and leo took off. Why would he do that if he wasn’t guilty?

Leo: [Groans] Like I told chad, after he chased me down in a paranoid rage, I was late to an appointment. I didn’t see him or his kid. Yet he dragged me down here against my will, and now I’m forced to defend myself against these insane accusations!

Chad: Leo had motive, all right? He hated abigail because she helped me break up his relationship with craig wesley.

Leo: Oh, please.

Chad: You swore revenge on sonny, brady, chloe, me, and abby was on that hit list.

Shawn: Were you in chad’s basement or not, leo?

Leo: Have you been to the dimera mansion? That place is a fortress. How would I even know how to get in there?

Chad: Oh, clever little rodent like you, you’d figure out a way down to the tunnels.

Leo: Guinevere. Thank you for checking up on me. Thanks to your directions, I’m able to wend my way through these tunnels. I was very robert donat, very “prisoner of zenda.”

[Chuckles] Ugh, you are a film illiterate. Well, it’s not the ritz, but it beats sleeping on a bench in prospect park. Plus, there are some very nice amenities here at chez dimera. And best of all, your sister is right upstairs. Tunnels? What tunnels? I have no idea what you’re talking about.

Chad: You know what? You are not gonna get away with this, you understand me? If the cops will not make make you pay, I will!

Leo: Get your hands off of me! Did you hear that? He just threatened my life!

Shawn: You need to calm down, okay? Calm down.

Leo: You need to put him in a cage.

Shawn: One step at a time.

Chad: He murdered my wife!

Chad: You need to step outside with your son and detective hunter, okay? I’ll be with you in a second. Chad, I’ll be with you in a second.

Leo: About those charges–

Shawn: Sit! Stay, all right?

Leo: Where are you going?

Shawn: I’m gonna get the full story from thomas. And–and I’m gonna have a guard watching you every second, so if you even think about leaving, bad idea.

[Door closes]

Eric: [Chuckles] You are always trying to play matchmaker.

Belle: Well, I just want my brother to be happy. So yes, maybe I am. Please don’t tell me you’re not ready, though. Because I love you dearly, but it’s time.

Eric: I know.

Belle: Nicole is happily married to rafe now.

Eric: This has nothing to do with nicole.

Belle: Mm-hmm. Then why don’t you ask jada out?

Eric: Because we already went to lunch today. And for the record, she was the one who invited me.

Rafe: Well, that’s, uh–

[Chuckles] I had no idea that eric and jada were seeing each other. Wait, how do you know?

Nicole: Well, when I went to the station yesterday, I overheard her asking eric to lunch. And then when chloe and I were at the pub earlier, they– we saw them together on a date.

Rafe: Oh, okay. Well, you know what? That’s terrific. Actually, I think they’ll be a great couple.

Nicole: Hmm.

Rafe: Hmm? You don’t agree? We really had our hands full with our two-year-old.

Rafe: So you don’t believe that eric and jada will be good together?

Nicole: Well, I– I don’t know, obviously, and neither do you. But I just hope for both their sakes that, you know, it doesn’t get awkward down the line.

Rafe: Right. Why would it be awkward? Well, because when they came to say hello to us, eric mentioned that jada would be renting a room above the pub.

Rafe: So?

Nicole: So they’ll be right down the hall from each other.

Rafe: Mm-hmm. What’s the problem?

Nicole: Well, I mean, if it– if it doesn’t work out, you know, it might be uncomfortable for both of them.

Rafe: But hopefully it will work out, right?

Nicole: Yes. Hopefully.

Belle: So jada asked you out. I like that. How’d it go?

Eric: It was good.

Belle: [Chuckles]

Eric: We laughed a lot, you know? And we had a lot in common.

Belle: Such as?

Eric: We both like running and dogs. And we’ve both been divorced.

Belle: Ah.

Eric: Well, we were respectful to our pasts, and we tried to stick to the lighter stuff like what our favorite movie was.

Belle: Mm-hmm.

Eric: Favorite foods. And she likes sushi. So do I.

Belle: Oh, good. Well, that’ll make planning your next date a breeze.

[Both chuckle]

Belle: I’m so glad you’re getting back out there. And also I’m sorry about what I said earlier.

Eric: What did you say?

Belle: Well, I just assumed you didn’t ask jada out because you were still hung up on nicole. And I won’t do that anymore. I won’t jump to conclusions about how you feel, ’cause I so hate it when people do that to me. But I am glad you’re moving on.

Eric: Yeah. Well, I’m glad you’re moving home.

Belle: [Chuckles]

Eric: It’s where you belong.

Belle: Oh, gosh. I better get going. ‘Cause shawn is gonna make me dinner.

Eric: Oh, well, let me help with your bags.

Belle: Okay.

Chloe: Leo came by the office earlier.

Brady: Yeah, he tried to– he tried to get me to hire him. He was wearing a floral suit.

Brady: As a matter of fact, you know what I have?

Chloe: [Gasps]

Clyde: What’s that?

Brady: This is leo’s lookbook. It’s got a bunch of pictures of him in hideous outfits.

Clyde: That’s him. That’s the guy.

Chad: Jada told me how much you’ve been helping the police. And I’m her partner. It’s good to see you, thomas.

Thomas: You too, cousin shawn.

Chad: Hey, now that cousin shawn and I are here, you want to tell us what you remember about the man you saw in our basement?

Thomas: Like what?

Chad: Like anything you can remember.

Jada: Thomas, why don’t you tell your dad what you told me earlier? About what you and your sister were doing that day.

Thomas: We were playing hide and seek. So that’s why I went down in that tunnel.

Jada: And what did you see in the tunnels?

Thomas: I saw a man. And I asked him what he was doing. He was kind of scary. He said he was gonna lock me up. But then he said he was the tooth fairy. So I stopped being scared.

Chad: Hey, what’s wrong?

Thomas: Is the tooth fairy in trouble?

Jada: What do you mean?

Thomas: Is he mad at me ’cause I wasn’t supposed to tell?

Shawn: What is it that you weren’t supposed to tell, thomas?

Thomas: That I saw him. He said it was a secret. And I broke my promise.

Jada: It’s okay, thomas. You didn’t do anything wrong.

Thomas: But he said not to tell anybody, especially my parents or I wouldn’t get any tooth fairy money for the rest of my life.

Jada: Did he say anything else?

Thomas: He asked me to get him breakfast, so I did.

Jada: And that was it? He didn’t say anything else after you brought him breakfast?

Thomas: I don’t think so. I’m not sure.

Chad: It’s okay, thomas. You’ve told us a lot. You’ve been very helpful.

Thomas: But I broke my promise. Then I told mom–mommy, then I told you. And then the police. I don’t want him to be in trouble, and I don’t want to be in trouble either.

Jada: No one’s in trouble. Like your dad said, you’re doing the right thing.

Chad: You did exactly what mommy and I taught you. All right? You told the truth. Mommy would be very proud. Are we done?

Shawn: Yeah. Yeah, we’re set.

Jada: Great job, thomas. You did a good job.

Chad: All right, buddy. Now, it’s time for you to get home and get to bed. I’m gonna call grandma jennifer and have her pick you up.

Thomas: What about you, daddy? You’ll come home soon, right?

Chad: Yes, I will. I will be home in time to tuck you in. I promise. All right, but first, daddy has to talk to the tooth fairy again.

Thomas: If he’s not too mad at me, please tell him he owes me $50.

Chad: He owes you a lot more than that. Come here.

[Sighs]

Sonny: Okay, I want to word this right, because I do care about you. It’s not that I have an issue working with you, per se, you know–

Alexander: Okay, okay, okay. No, no, no. Say no more. I get it. Sonny boy, I totally get it.

Sonny: Ale–you– you totally get it? Even though I haven’t even answered the question yet?

Alexander: Well, I shouldn’t have had to even ask the damn question, but there’s obviously going to be an issue. I’m an assertive, confident person in most ways. And that can be intimidating.

Sonny: I am not intimidated by you, alex, okay? First of all, you are my brother, so I have no problem telling you when you’re acting like a total jerk, okay? And second of all, you know, you’re acting like I’m not assertive and confident. But, you know, I’m the ceo of the company, which kind of makes me the boss.

Alexander: Okay, okay, okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I misspoke. I shouldn’t have used the word “intimidated.” I just know how you can get a little sensitive about being condescended to especially by me, huh?

Sonny: I’m not sensitive. You make me sound like a little weenie, man.

Alexander: Oh.

Sonny: Come on. You know? And you know why I don’t have a problem being condescended to by you? It’s ’cause I’m used to it. So is everyone else you’ve ever interacted with.

Alexander: Okay. All right, you know what? Can we just stop for a second? Let’s not fight. Let me be honest with you. Let me explain myself, please? Thank you. Sonny, I want us to be compatible in every way possible. Not just at work, in general. You’re my brother. I love you, man. I– I’m letting you know right now that in no uncertain terms am I ever, ever going to steamroll you in this role. Period. You are the boss. I am deferring to you. No comment?

Sonny: I j–I think you’re gonna have a hard time with that. Deferring to me? Having me call the shots, make the big decisions? Yeah, I’m gonna be honest, I– I don’t think you can handle that. I was taking my antidepressant daily,

Alexander: Wow. That is really disappointing.

Sonny: What is?

Alexander: Your whole attitude about this whole thing, sonny. We’ve worked together before in the past and it was great. We got along famously, as I recall.

Sonny: Alex, that was totally different.

Alexander: Sonny boy, I have no problem deferring to you. I know that you are more than capable of doing this. And like I said, I love you. You’re my brother. And I am looking at this as the chance to actually make us a little bit closer. To truly bond.

Sonny: You mean it?

Alexander: ‘Course I mean it. Sonny, you’re not just capable, you’re one of the kindest people I’ve ever met in my life. Not to mention funny as hell. Nobody cracks me up the way you do.

Sonny: I hope I don’t make you laugh in the office too much.

Alexander: See, I actually hope you do make me laugh too much in the office. We need that, man. We need that. Even with the most serious, important jobs, we gotta find the humor in it.

Sonny: I guess there’s nothing wrong with a little humor from time to time.

Alexander: No. I’m looking forward it. And I’m also gonna have to fly.

Sonny: You want to– you want to stay for dinner? I mean, the chef is making his famous osso buco tonight.

Alexander: Tonight’s osso buco night?

Sonny: Yeah.

Alexander: Mm, uh… no, I got plans. Do you want to come with me?

Sonny: Oh, um–osso buco. Dinner? And then I got some work I gotta do.

Alexander: I got you. Are we good?

Sonny: Yeah, we’re good.

Alexander: I love you, bro.

Sonny: I love you too.

Alexander: Boss.

Sonny: Don’t ever call me that.

Alexander: Captain.

Sonny: That’s better. I like that. Have a good time!

Brady: Are you sure that this is the guy?

Clyde: Yeah. No doubt in my mind.

Chloe: Oh, my god.

Nancy: [Gasps] Clyde, do you know who that is?

Clyde: Who?

Nancy: It’s leo stark. He’s the little weasel my husband left me for. He’s the con artist craig almost married.

Clyde: You mean–

Nancy: [Giggles] Yes. Your weasel and my weasel are the same damn weasel.

[Giggles]

Chad: I want leo arrested. Now.

Chad: Chad, we need to follow procedure.

Chad: What does that mean?

Shawn: If we get what we need we can place leo under arrest.

Chad: You heard what my son just said. He–he saw leo in our basement, and leo told him to keep it a secret. What more do you need?

Shawn: We need to bring rafe up to speed, is what we need.

Chad: So then get him.

Rafe: He’s gone for the day.

Chad: Okay, after my wife was murdered, I stood in that room, the room where my wife was stabbed, over, and over, and over again. And rafe looked me in the eye and told me he wouldn’t stop until the killer was found. Well, we found him. So rafe is gonna get the hell back here now.

[Phone beeps]

Rafe: What are you thinking?

Nicole: The dover sole sounds good.

[Phone rings]

Rafe: It’s chad. I should probably take this.

[Phone beeps] Hey, chad, what’s up?

Chad: I’m at the station with abigail’s killer.

Rafe: What?

Chad: Just get down here.

Rafe: All right, I’m on my way.

Nicole: Is everything okay?

Rafe: Well, it appears as though there’s a development in abigail’s case.

Nicole: Oh, gosh.

Rafe: Yeah, I gotta go.

Nicole: Okay. Yes, of course. Go.

Rafe: I’d say I’ll be back–

Nicole: Oh, honey, I’m fine. I’ll get something and I’ll see you at home.

Rafe: Okay. [Smooches] Love you.

Nicole: I love you too.

Leo: Ah, finally. I assume you’re here to release me with your sincere apologies?

Shawn: Nope. You’re gonna be here a while.

Leo: Don’t tell me this is about what that screwed up little dimera kid said? You don’t actually believe any of that, do you? The tooth fairy in the basement? Come on.

Jada: I suggest you sit down.

Leo: Okay, look, look. I won’t press any charges against chad for threatening me or demand that that obnoxious little boy retract his lies. We can chalk this up to a misunderstanding and I’ll be on my way.

Shawn: No, you’re gonna sit the hell down, all right? Rafe’s on his way.

Leo: What? Why?

Shawn: ‘Cause detective hunter and I are gonna brief him. And he’s gonna ask you some questions. And you’re not going anywhere until you answer them. This is the sound of better breathing.

Jada: Eric.

Eric: [Chuckles]

Jada: We have to stop meeting like this.

Eric: Oh, I guess that’s gonna happen a lot now that you’re moving in upstairs.

Jada: Well, I don’t think I mind it.

Eric: You just coming from work?

Jada: Yeah, I did. And I think we just caught a big break in the abigail dimera case.

Eric: That’s great.

Jada: I would tell you more, but–

Eric: I get you can’t discuss an ongoing investigation. So we can talk about something else. Hey, how about dinner? If that’s okay.

Jada: Two dates in one day?

Eric: Is that a yes?

Jada: It is.

Eric: Good.

[Jada chuckles]

Belle: I hope I’m not late.

Shawn: No, no, no, no. You’re actually right on time. Grill’s all fired up, steaks are ready to go. I figure while I cook, I don’t know, you can, you know, check out your garden.

Belle: That sounds really nice.

Shawn: Welcome home.

Belle: It’s good to be home.

Chloe: Of all the people that could’ve murdered abigail–

Brady: Leo stark.

Chloe: Yeah, I mean, I know he’s awful, and he’s con artist, a crook, self-absorbed, probably the most narcissistic person I’ve ever met, but is he really a murderer?

Brady: The thought never occurred to me. But come to think of it, I mean, he blamed abigail just as much as he blamed us for ruining his relationship with your dad. He was furious at her.

Chloe: Yeah, but furious enough to murder her?

Brady: I guess we’ll see.

[Phone rings]

Rafe: My detectives have brought me up to speed. It appears that thomas dimera–

Leo: Is a child with a very active imagination.

Chad: Call my kid a liar one more time.

Leo: Why is he here?

Chad: To make sure the animal that killed my wife is put down.

Rafe: Chad, please. Now, thomas says that he saw you in the dimera basement?

Leo: No, he says he saw the tooth fairy in the dimera basement. Maybe he was down there with a pack of wild unicorns as well.

Rafe: You think this is funny?

Leo: No, I think it’s outrageous. I have been harassed, detained, and slandered. And I don’t have to take it anymore. I’m so out of here.

Chad: Read him his rights.

Rafe: Afraid I can’t do that.

Chad: Why the hell not?

Rafe: I don’t have enough to hold him here, let alone arrest him.

Leo: Thank you.

Chad: Rafe, you can’t just let him go.

Leo: He can and he will, because unlike you, the police commissioner knows the law.

Rafe: I don’t want to hold him here unless I have enough to make future charges stick. That could end up blowing up in our faces later.

Chad: Okay, if you let him go, he’ll disappear. We’ll never see him again.

Rafe: Chad, without anyone or anything to back up what thomas says, I can’t keep him here. Believe me, chad, I want this case solved as much as you do. But I don’t have enough to implicate leo. And I don’t have the testimony from a corroborating witness.

Clyde: Oh, yes you do.

[Dramatic music]

Clyde: Yeah, that’s me. My shift’s almost over. Why don’t you pick out a table and we’ll grab some dinner?

Nancy: Um, I have a better idea.

Clyde: What’s that?

Nancy: Why don’t you and i have dinner with chloe and brady? Unless there’s a reason you don’t think we should?

Clyde: Well, I got one pretty good reason. Your daughter hates my guts.

[Sentimental country music]

Chloe: Hey.

Brady: Chloe, you’ve been staring at that screen all morning. You’re gonna get eyestrain.

Chloe: I know, but I have to get this proposal in by tomorrow morning, and it has to be perfect. I’m not gonna give kristen another reason to write me up.

Brady: I saw your first draft this morning, and it was good.

Chloe: Well, good is not good enough in this situation. Any minute, that petty bitch could come walking in through that door.

Leo: Who are you calling petty?

[Tense music]

Xander: So, we agree that ava and gwen must be working together, right?

Sarah: Absolutely. So what do we do now?

Xander: Well, we have to get ava to admit that she helped gwen escape from statesville, and that she did it on the night that abigail was murdered. Oh, right, and that she knew gwen was gonna kill abigail and frame you for it.

Sarah: Is that all? That’ll be a piece of cake.

Xander: Hey, it might not be that difficult. I mean, gwen and ava, they’re business partners, not chums. Ava already rolled on her partner once before. I can make her throw gwen under the bus one last time.

Gwen: No, of course I didn’t kill abigail. But I had motive, and if the cops find out I had opportunity, well, that’s not gonna look good for either one of us.

Ava: Oh, are you threatening me? After I went out of my way to help do you a favor?

Gwen: No. I’m just pointing out that it would be in our best mutual interest to keep our mouths shut.

Ava: Well, don’t worry. Your secret’s safe with me.

[Tense music]

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Ej: Sorry, am I interrupting?

Ava: No, not at all. I mean, it is your house. This is my friend gwen. Gwen, this is ej, my brother-in-law.

Gwen: Mm. I know, we’ve met.

Ej: I don’t remember that.

Gwen: Oh, yeah, I’m not surprised.

[Clears throat] It was quite a long time ago. You barely even recognized that I was in the room. You were very focused on getting your million dollars back from xander cook.

[Tense music]

Sarah: Where are you going?

Xander: Gonna have a word with ava.

Sarah: Now?

Xander: Why not? I heard the grieving widow just moved into the dimera place.

Sarah: Yeah, but you have to be prepared if you’re gonna go talk to ava. She’s not stupid. She’s just gonna deny everything.

Xander: Well if she does, I’ll show her the copies we made of the visitor logs and the phone records. We can prove that… ava was in contact with gwen before and after abigail was murdered.

Sarah: Yeah, but we don’t know what they talked about.

Xander: What, you think they were exchanging recipes?

Sarah: All we have is a theory.

Xander: I’ll lean on her. She’ll fold.

Sarah: Mm. I admire your confidence. But ava is as tough as nails. You have to have proof.

Xander: Yeah, you’re right.

Sarah: And we know that ava isn’t the only person that gwen spoke to that day. There’s also her good friend leo stark.

Brady: Mm, what are you doing here, leo?

Leo: It’s a social call. I thought I’d save your asses by saving your company.

Brady: Ooh. He’s gonna save our company. How you gonna do that?

Leo: With this.

[Tense music]

Clyde: Nancy, I know you want chloe and her boyfriend to like me, but… we’ve been going out for a while now, and absolutely nothing has changed.

Nancy: Something has changed, clyde. You and I are living together now. And even though I don’t listen to them, that doesn’t mean that I’m going to stop trying to change their minds about you.

Clyde: Yeah, but you know, whatever you say won’t change the fact that I got a prison record. Now, we’re living together ’cause I need a place to stay here or else I’m violating my parole, and you graciously offered to put a roof over my head when ben and his family left town.

Nancy: I didn’t do it to be nice. I was happy to do it.

Clyde: And that means more to me than you know.

Nancy: You know, I– I think we’re pretty compatible in many ways, even as roomies.

Clyde: Yeah, even as roomies. But you know, you’ve been a really great friend to me. More than anyone else has ever been. Seems like you always got my back. Even when I’m accused of murder.

Jennifer: You ate your whole salad! How about I take you to the square for a treat?

Thomas: I don’t want to go there.

Jennifer: Not even to that place where they serve toffee on the frozen yogurt?

Thomas: I’m afraid to eat toffee now.

Jennifer: Why?

Thomas: My tooth is really loose. See?

Jennifer: That’s the problem.

Thomas: But I can still eat plain frozen yogurt, though.

Chad: I could go for some froyo myself. Thomas. Thomas, don’t run away from me.

[Somber music]

Jennifer: What just happened?

Chad: My kid hates me. It’s my own fault.

This is the sound of better breathing.

Jennifer: Chad, you know thomas doesn’t hate you.

Chad: I wouldn’t blame him if he did. I lost my temper with him yesterday.

Jennifer: Well, all parents do that.

Chad: Not under these circumstances. What? What are you thinking?

Jennifer: Well, I don’t want to upset you further.

Chad: Jennifer, just tell me.

Jennifer: Last night, thomas was worried when you didn’t come home.

Chad: He was?

Jennifer: Yes.

Chad: I should have called.

Jennifer: Jack and i were worried, too.

Chad: Yeah, I’m sorry. I just, I got–I got a little drunk last night and I crashed at sonny’s house.

Jennifer: I know. Sonny texted me, and I told thomas, but he was still scared.

Chad: Why?

Jennifer: Chad. Your son is afraid you’re gonna leave him, the way his mother did.

[Somber music]

[Soft country music]

Nancy: Clyde, I told you the night that we met that I believe everybody deserves a second chance.

Clyde: That meant the world to me.

Nancy: I just–I just wanted you to stop being so hard on yourself. You did the time. And you paid your debt. That’s why, when you were arrested, I felt so bad for you.

Clyde: Well, it was rough, but, you know, it all worked out. And now, here I am with you, and I couldn’t be more grateful.

Sarah: So gwen called leo stark on the day of the murder as well.

Xander: Yeah, I haven’t forgotten about him. I just don’t see leo killing anyone, you know? And lucas didn’t say anything about seeing drag sarah horton running down those stairs.

Sarah: So, you do think it was gwen.

Xander: Leo’s just a conman, but gwen, I mean, clearly, she’ll do whatever it takes to get what she wants. Can’t believe she convinced me she’d changed. What a dummy I was.

Sarah: Hey, no, you have to stop beating yourself up. How could you have known?

Xander: There were signs. I just chose to ignore them.

Sarah: Yeah, but you had been hurt so badly. By me. You know, you just needed to believe in love again.

Xander: I wasn’t hurt by you, I was hurt by that monster kristen dimera. All you’ve ever done is just make me so much happier than I ever deserved to be.

Sarah: No, stop that. You deserve to be happy. And to be loved. And you need to give yourself a little bit more credit. You saw through gwen eventually.

Xander: Yeah, only after she made your life hell. I mean, we both know she wouldn’t have gone anywhere near you if I hadn’t been so stupid.

Gwen: Yeah, well, xander and I aren’t together anymore.

Ej: Oh, well that’s a point in your favor. But any friend of my late brother’s wife is welcome in this house. I’m sure you’re a great comfort to ava.

Gwen: I certainly try to be.

Ej: Why don’t you stay for drinks and dinner?

Ava: That’s very generous of you, ej, but isn’t it a little late to add another person to the table?

Ej: Oh, we’re very adaptable. So will you stay?

Gwen: Sure. Why not?

Ej: Great. I’ll go shower and change, and then we can get to know each other a little better. Perhaps we’ll even get around to discussing that secret that ava seems to be keeping for you.

[Tense music]

It’s started. Somewhere between a cuddle

Chad: He thought I left him for good?

Jennifer: He was panicky.

[Somber music]

I reassured him, of course, but it was a rough night for him.

Chad: Poor little guy. I’m–I’m sorry.

Jennifer: I didn’t want to tell you, but I thought you needed to know.

Chad: Oh yeah, I did need to know.

Jennifer: Yes, I suppose you did, but I– look, I hate to cause you more pain.

Chad: Jen, I’m not really worried about my pain right now, all right? This is my son we’re talking about. And he thought his dad died last night because he didn’t turn up and he didn’t call. I mean, it’s no wonder he was scared. Him and charlotte kissed their mother goodbye and then went to do see a movie with me, and then when we came back… I mean, my son just wants his mom back, and his dad has no clue what to say to him. I mean, how do I make this okay?

Jennifer: You can’T. None of us can. But the one thing that you can do, we can all do, is we can–we can go through this together. As a parent, I have learned that you cannot always be wise and wonderful for your kids, but you can be there.

Chad: Yeah. I mean, it’s no secret that I’m a mess right now. I got loaded last night because I wanted to feel nothing. Honestly, I am filled with nothing but rage.

Jennifer: I understand that. I do.

Chad: And the truth is I was just too ashamed to face thomas or charlotte last night. The last thing they need is their drunken father staggering around. Not so wise and wonderful, you said? I’m far from that. Yeah, I’m doing my best… to keep it together. And the truth is…

Clyde: Or we could get some takeout from that chinese place that ben likes, you know, stay home, watch some lady wrestling.

Nancy: Do I have to put you in a hammerlock to get my way? Once you spend time with chloe and brady, they’re gonna learn to love you like I do.

Clyde: Nancy miller, did i just hear you say you love me?

Nancy: I don’t know what I said.

Clyde: [Chuckles]

Nancy: Yes, you do. [Laughs] Okay. Oh, wait, I think you should just go home and shower and put on that new shirt that I bought you.

Clyde: All right. Where will you be?

Nancy: I’m going to pick up chloe and brady, and then– then we’ll text you to let you know where to meet us for dinner.

Chloe: You told my mother that I was on some sort of list of yours, and she knew that you weren’t talking about your christmas card list, so why would brady and I be dumb enough to hire you after that?

Leo: Well, I only said that because she made me so mad.

Chloe: Well, you’re still mad! If we hired you, you’d run this company into the ground.

Leo: Why would I do a thing like that?

Brady: You made it clear that you intend to get even with anyone who came in between you and craig.

Leo: True. But I changed my mind. I decided to be the bigger person and let all that go. If I’m willing to get bygones be bygones, shouldn’t you be?

Chloe: Why would you even want to work here?

Leo: Girl’s gotta eat, right?

Brady: [Laughs] You are unbelievable.

Leo: I like to think of myself as unique, a true original, which is what my designs for basic black would be. Should we talk salary?

Chloe: Get out.

Leo: You two are so tiresome. Well, I guess I’ll just have to start my own brand and bury you. I assure you, it’s nothing personal.

[Mysterious jazz music]

Xander: Gwen killed her own sister and tried to frame you for it, and you know why.

Sarah: Because she hated abigail. And she wanted me out of the way so she could have a shot with you.

Xander: Right. That’s why I’m gonna be the one to make sure her plan blows up in her face.

Sarah: You know, gwen does seem to be a psychiatrist’s worst nightmare, but there is something about her that I do understand.

Xander: What’s that?

Sarah: Risking everything to be with you.

Xander: Ah, get on with you.

Sarah: No, I mean it. I thought I was losing my mind, but now…

Xander: You’re the sarah I know. The sarah I love.

Ava: Oh, I don’t know. Maybe it’s because I just inherited jake’s shares of dimera enterprises.

Gwen: [Sighs] So he’s gonna want some answers when he gets back.

Ava: Right. So, we need to come up with another big secret. And fast.

Chad: Hey, pal.

Thomas: Hi.

Chad: I’m sorry I– I’m sorry I didn’t come home last night. I’m sorry about a lot of stuff. I– I yelled at you, and that was wrong.

Thomas: It’s okay.

Chad: No, it isn’T. But I didn’t yell at you because I was mad.

Thomas: It sounded like you were.

Chad: I wasn’T.

[Sentimental music]

I’m just so mad at the world.

Thomas: Me too.

Chad: Yeah. We’re both mad… and we’re both sad… because mommy’s gone, and we both miss her very much, and we would do anything for her to come back. I know… your mom was always– she was always so great at coming up with ways to make you feel better. Taking you to the aquarium, just the two of you. I know how much you loved that. And you remember when she let you and charlotte roast those marshmallows on that fancy fireplace?

Chad: Yeah. I know. You know, I was just looking at pictures that she took of you guys that night. I can show them to you.

I want to be… I want to be good… at coming up with great ideas like she was. But I just, I– I don’t think I have it in me right now. I just– actually, I can’T.

But maybe– maybe if you have… you know, an idea or think of anything.

Thomas: Maybe…

Thomas: I could make you feel better, then you can make me feel better.

Chad: [Sobs] I think that… that might be the best idea that I have ever heard. You know how much you remind me of your mom? You and your sister, both of you. And anytime that I want to see your mom, all I have to do is look at you guys. I love you. Think you could give me a hug?

Brady: Can you believe that guy? Just waltzing in here, expecting a job.

Chloe: Yeah, well now that he’s gone, I have to admit some of these designs are actually really good.

Brady: Chloe, seriously? Did you see the suit that he was wearing? The only thing missing was a boutonniere that squirts water.

Chloe: No, I know leo does have his own personal style. But this? This is actually kind of different. I like it.

Nancy: Why are you looking at pictures of that horrible man?

[Tense music]

Leo: Chloe lane and brady black wouldn’t know good design if it hit them right in the face.

Leo: Eww. Since our last association was mutually beneficial, I’m gonna forget you said that. How about a buy you a drink? I’m drinking pinot grigio myself; it’s a modest wine, but I think you’ll be amused as its presumption.

Clyde: Never touch the stuff.

Leo: Hmm. Yours is moonshine in a dirty glass? Hey, hey, hey you’re wrinkling my suit.

Clyde: I almost took a murder rap ’cause of you. They had me in for the murder of abigail dimera. Lucky for me, I had an alibi. But I get the feeling you’re not gonna be half as lucky as I was.

Chad: So, what was– what was the frozen yogurt you and grandma were talking about?

Jennifer: Well, I have a good idea. Why don’t the two of you go get it together?

Jennifer: No, another time. For now, I think you two guys need a boys’ night out.

Nancy: [Sighs] Okay. Now that you’ve explained about talking to that horrible man, let’s not mention his name again, because it just makes me queasy.

Brady: Agreed. As a matter of fact, I was gonna try to convince chloe to get out of here and go get some dinner. You’re welcome to join us if you’d like.

Nancy: Oh, well, funny thing about that, I came here to ask you and chloe to join clyde and i for dinner tonight. Come on, please say yes. I mean, whether you like him or not, clyde weston is the new man in my life. Chloe, he makes me happy. And I just want to share that with the people that I love.

Brady: I hear that he’s living with you now?

Nancy: Yes. I didn’t think I needed to ask your permission.

Chloe: No, you don’T. If he’s the man in your life, then I will gladly go to dinner with–with you guys. And I’ll try to focus on the fact that he makes you happy.

Nancy: Thank you, sweetheart. Brady?

Brady: Well, if you’re good with it, then who am I to argue? I’m in.

Nancy: Great. Okay, let’s go.

[Tense music]

Xander: Here is that mousse you were craving.

Sarah: Mmm, finally. Took long enough to get here.

Xander: Well, you know, takes a minute. I’ve got to find and hunt and kill a moose and whip it up into a creamy dessert.

Sarah: You have a very wry wit, mr. Cook. Mmm. You know what?

Xander: What?

Sarah: That mousse took so long to get here that I developed an appetite for something else entirely different. One that doesn’t require a spoon.

Xander: You know, that’s funny. Because I was getting a bit peckish myself.

Sarah: Hmm.

Xander: But not for mousse.

[Sultry music]

Ava: Why in the world would gwen have any secret that involves abigail?

Ej: Can you answer that, ms. Rizczech?

Gwen: Ah. I see you’ve figured me out then, have you?

Ej: I didn’t put it together until after I had left you. You’re the daughter jack deveraux didn’t know he fathered. The one who returned to salem with a desire to get even.

Gwen: That was a long time ago.

Ej: Must have been. I wasn’t in salem when you seduced my brother and tried to ruin his marriage.

Gwen: Guilty as charged. You see, I was a very angry woman back then. But luckily, I was able to see all the harm that I had caused, and I made peace with abigail, long before she died. My heart goes out to chad. I know how devastated he is over the loss of his wife.

[Tense music]

Chad: Mmm. I don’t care what anybody says, I think that vanilla is the best frozen yogurt.

Thomas: I think chocolate’s better.

Chad: Yeah? What? Are you okay? Is this your tooth? Oh, my gosh, we’ve been waiting forever for this to come out!

Thomas: Will you keep it for me so I can put it under my pillow?

Chad: Will you trust me with something this important?

Thomas: Mom used to do it. You’re gonna have to do some of the stuff mom did.

Chad: I would be happy to. I am gonna guard this with my life.

Thomas: Does the tooth fairy know we’re at grandma’s house?

Chad: Yeah, the tooth fairy’s very smart. She knows where all the kids live, so she’ll find you.

Thomas: Okay, good. But the tooth fairy’s a he.

Leo: You’re looking at me like you think I killed abigail dimera.

Clyde: Tell it to the cops.

Leo: Do we need to involve the cops in this? You’re on parole after a fairly colorful past, and I’ve spent a certain amount of time on the wrong side of the law myself.

Clyde: I told you I’ve been cleared.

Leo: Do the cops know that you fenced the stolen jewelry of a murder victim?

Clyde: [Sighs] I’ll take my chances.

Leo: Well, at least let me finish my wine. I missed happy hour by two minutes and they made me pay full price.

Clyde: Well, drink up, my friend. I’m pretty sure they won’t be serving no pinot grigio where you’re going.

Leo: Well, here’s to the boys in cell block B. Bottoms up.

Gwen: It’s true. Yeah. Uh… I thought it was a lost cause, but now that lucas has said that he saw sarah in this house on the very day that abigail was murdered, well, I don’t know, maybe we still have a chance.

Ej: I see you haven’t heard.

Gwen: Heard what?

Ej: It appears that sarah might have an alibi.

Gwen: But lucas said that–

Ej: Lucas and I have a long history. He’s a sot and liar. Soon as I heard he’d implicated sarah, I knew she hadn’t done it. Someone else killed abigail.

I think I might go check on dinner.

Gwen: I cannot believe you told him I’m pining after xander.

Ava: Well, we had to tell ej something, and the best lies have a grain of truth to them.

Gwen: Are you sure it’s a good idea to be living in the same house with the very man who’s out to get you?

Ava: Don’t worry about it. I know how to handle ej dimera.

Nancy: Look who I brought with me. What happened to your shirt?

Clyde: Oh, you wouldn’t believe it. I just ran into the dude that gave me abigail’s bracelet.

Nancy: Really?

Brady: Where the hell is he?

Clyde: He knew I was on to him, threw a drink in my face, and ran out.

Chad: You saw the tooth fairy in the basement of our old house?

Thomas: And it was a man.

Chad: Right. Okay. Look, I want you to promise me that you’re not gonna go down there again, okay, big guy? Those tunnels aren’t the safest place for a little kid, especially by themselves.

Thomas: But I wasn’t by myself. The tooth fairy was there. I told mommy about it. And if you don’t believe me, ask him yourself! Look! There he is!

Gwen: Ava! Ava, are you in there? I need to talk to you. It’s really important. Kristen, what the hell are you doing here?

[Door opens]

Warden: Can I help you?

Xander: [Irish accent] Hello. I’m father callum o’brien, and I was hoping I could help you.

[Soft orchestration]

Xander: Now, I’m sure you’re a busy lass, but I’ll only be taking a minute of your time. You see, our parish is very interested in helping with your literacy program. Fine, fine work you’re doing–

[Phone rings]

Warden: Excuse me.

Xander: No problem.

Warden: Yes, what is it? Damn it, I’ll be right there. I’m sorry, father, there’s an emergency. If you’ll have a seat, I’ll be back shortly.

Xander: Of course, of course. Take all the time in the world.

Sarah: The warden is on her way to a non-existent prisoner altercation in block C. We have ten minutes to download everything we need.

Xander: And may the holy father be blessing the efforts of this poor child to escape taking the rap for a heinous crime she did not commit.

Sarah: Good god, I’m breaking into prison records with the lucky charms leprechaun.

Xander: Hey, that was liam neeson; it was perfect.

Sarah: You’re right, it totally was. And this could all just be a wild goose chase. I mean, who is stupid enough to keep records of when they just happened to lose track of a prisoner? The warden of statesville.

Xander: Yeah.

Kristen: Well, my brother and ava let me crash here when I was released. Being here is bittersweet. I was looking forward to knowing jake a bit better.

Gwen: So sorry for your loss.

Xander: Language, my child. Ugh, this bloody collar’s choking me.

Alex: Fair enough. I was on my way to hr. Apparently, there’s a mountain of paperwork for me to fill out. So see you at the office?

Alex: Chad, nice to meet you, man.

Chad: [Groans]

Chad: Really reminds me of someone. I can’t think of who, though.

Sonny: Drawing a blank.

Xander: Warden, I can only imagine how that must have looked to you.

Warden: Who is that woman?

Xander: This would be mary frances mchugh, the president of our sodality.

Warden: Doesn’t it make that little episode even more inappropriate?

Ava: Okay, calm down. Didn’t marry your uncle chad.

Ava: I married your uncle jake.

Sarah: I just pray to god we downloaded everything before the warden came back.

Xander: I’m just glad that we got out of there before she remembered that I was a guest of the state at one point. So what have you got?

Sarah: Mm, visitor logs, call logs, disciplinary records.

Xander: That is a lot of dress code violations.

Sarah: Oh, my god. Look at this. Abigail was killed on june 10th. This shows that gwen went missing from bed check on june 10th. Unaccounted for for several hours. Which means no one knew where gwen was when abigail was murdered. -Well, I’m not 100% sold yet. -Okay, have you considered —

Sarah: So now the question is, is this enough to take to the cops?

Xander: We still don’t have enough evidence. We can’t prove that gwen left the prison that night.

Sarah: No. But we do know that lucas swore that he saw me at the mansion that night. And I can prove that that wasn’t me. We could go to the cops and tell them that we found that damn mask in gwen’s suitcase and that she took off with it and tried to get rid of it. And now we can prove that she went off the radar that night.

Xander: But–

Sarah: But we don’t have the mask. And we can’t prove that she left statesville that night.

Xander: And that new lady detective ain’t exactly open to hearing what we have to say.

Sarah: Hmm. But we know that gwen did it, so now we just have to figure how.

Xander: Maybe she bribed a guard.

Sarah: Yeah, but then why would it be reported? Wouldn’t a guard want to cover their tracks? Could it be somebody from the outside?

Xander: Let’s check the visitor logs.

Sarah: Wait. Abigail visited gwen that day.

Xander: Well, that is very interesting, but I don’t see abigail helping gwen get out.

Sarah: Mm-mm. And the only other person that visited gwen that day was me. I went to tell her the good news about us getting back together.

Xander: I’m sure she was thrilled for us.

Sarah: I really did enjoy rubbing that particular salt in her wounds.

Xander: Oh, look, so the next day, she sees leo stark and… ava vitali?

Sarah: Ava? That’s strange.

Xander: Right. I mean, ava sold gwen down the river to get immunity. Why would she be visiting her?

Xander: Right. Also, ava has those mob connections. I mean, she’s probably the one person besides the governor who has the pull that you would need to get gwen out of statesville.

Sarah: Looks like we need to go have a talk with ms. Vitali.

Johnny: So if you need anything, just let me know.

Gwen: I’m just pointing out that it would be in our mutual interest for both of us to keep our mouths shut.

Xander: So it sounds like ava could be the key.

Sarah: Yeah, she has to be. If we can figure out how ava got gwen out of prison, then we can prove that gwen is the one that killed abigail.

Shawn: Right. I hope that it’s all right that I referred to you as my wife.

Belle: Of course. I mean, technically, we are still married. And it was really nice to hear. I missed it.

Nicole: It is better. And I am ready to ditch these things soon.

Eric: I’m sure you will.

Nicole: Yeah.

Kristen: I just came from the basic black office, and much to my surprise, it was deserted. And then I find the two of you here, together. Oh, I can’t wait to hear the excuse you cooked up for abandoning work.

Brady: Well, we could say the same thing about you. You’ve been awol for about a day and a half. Where have you been?

Li: It’s funny. When I first uncovered the slush fund for this secret lab, I had all these wild ideas what it might be for. Nuclear weapons, a cure for cancer. Or, knowing this family, something far more sinister. But then I came here and found stefan dimera being kept alive by a mechanical heart. And I must admit, it was far more fantastical, and quite frankly, creepier than anything I’d imagined. And I dare say I did see opportunity… the possibility to leverage some power in the family. After all, this is stefano’s son, his namesake. That has to be worth something, right? So, yes, I continue to fund this operation and awaited your release from prison.

Rolf: You did the right thing.

Li: Did I? So you’re saying it was a good idea that I placed all of this trust in you, only to find out you’ve been holding out on me?

Rolf: I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Li: Oh, no? Then I assume you were just about to tell me. You put jake’s heart in stefan’s body.

[Dramatic music]

It was that I watched as you and kristen wheeled in jake’s lifeless body and I watched as you wheeled him back out again later, a nasty scar running down his chest.

Rolf: And I was just about to tell you–

Li: I can’t wait to hear this.

Rolf: But I– I didn’t think it was prudent to inform you until I was certain that the procedure was a success. Until then, I thought it best to keep it just between myself and kristen. No one else knows, I assure you. Not even stefan’s brothers.

Li: For future reference, rolf, don’t ever keep me out of the loop, you hear me? As far as you’re concerned, I am the loop.

Rolf: Yes, sir.

Li: I would hate for your funding to suddenly dry up, for all of your work to just disappear.

Li: Good. Well, now that we’ve got that cleared up, was it a success?

Li: How much time are you talking about? When do you get to have your dr. Frankenstein moment?

Li: Impressive. It’s very impressive. But I’m afraid that doesn’t work for me.

Gabi: What is up with all the romantic advice? Are you some sort of expert now that you’re married? You growing cupid wings back there?

Rafe: Happy enough.

Gabi: [Laughs] Cupid’s got jokes now. Great. No, but you know what? You’re right. Maybe li and I will get serious. I mean, we do have a great time when we’re together. The sex is off the charts.

Rafe: No. No, no. Please. I do not–I do not need to hear about that, okay?

Gabi: You were the one poking around in my love life.

Rafe: Okay, that’s all good, but I do not need to–

Gabi: I will say, my one complaint is that he’s a little hard to read. You know, I’m not sure if he’s just guarded or if he has something to hide.

Rafe: Oh, cupid doesn’t like that.

Gabi: I mean, it’s probably nothing, it’s just, you know me. We’re talking about me here. I tend to read far too much into things and–

Gabi: Okay, exhibit a, I overheard him saying “I love you” to somebody on the phone, and I jumped to secret girlfriend.

Rafe: Not a far leap.

Gabi: It was his mother.

Rafe: Definitely a smaller leap.

Gabi: Suffice to say, I am the evel knievel of jumping to conclusions.

Rafe: Yeah, well, you’re not alone.

Eric: So how did you know…

Nicole: I’m stalking you. It’s just a bad joke. I’m kidding. No, I went to the station yesterday to visit rafe, and I overheard you and the detective making plans, so…

Eric: Why didn’t you say hello?

Nicole: Oh, yeah, the key ingredient when setting up a date with a new person, the ex-wife. Mm-hmm. I don’t think jada would’ve been thrilled. Or maybe she would’ve. I don’t know. Can you imagine anything more awkward?

Eric: I suppose you’re right.

Nicole: Yeah.

Jada: Hi, eric.

Eric: Hi.

Jada: Mrs. Hernandez.

Nicole: Oh, goodness, please call me nicole.

Jada: Nicole.

Nicole: Yeah.

Jada: Sorry I’m early, but I was trapped in an awkward position at the station, and I needed to get the hell up out of there.

Nicole: Yeah, I know the feeling.

Shawn: So… what brings you here?

Belle: Well, I knew it was your first day back, and I wanted to see how you were doing.

Shawn: Well, to be honest, I had a rough night. You know, I woke up in the middle of the night to imaginary cries. I ran down to the crib, and I was half-asleep, only to realize that–

Belle: Right. Shawn, I’m so sorry.

Shawn: You know, I’m glad to be back at work. So it’s good. It’ll take my mind off of it. So how was your morning?

Belle: Oh, well, it was kind of crazy, actually. We had to resolve a lot of legal issues around jake dimera’s death.

Kristen: Well, in case you haven’t heard, my brother was shot in broad daylight, and I wasn’t aware that I needed an employee’s permission to take time out to mourn him.

Chloe: I’m really sorry about what happened with jake, but I didn’t think you two were particularly close.

Kristen: I’m not talking to you. In fact, I came to talk to brady in private. Now, if you don’t mind–

Brady: Don’t treat chloe like that.

Kristen: Well, now that I’m overseeing your company, I can treat chloe any way I’d like while she’s on the clock. Now, chloe, I need to see the merino deal. So if you could send me the file right away…

Chloe: Are you serious?

Kristen: I would hate to write you up again.

Brady: Kristen.

Chloe: No, it’s okay, brady. I would be more than happy to send you that file.

[Uneasy music]

Brady: Was that necessary?

Kristen: Necessary? No. Fun?

[Laughs] You bet your ass.

Brady: Kristen, well, we’re in private now, so what is it? What is it you want to talk about?

Kristen: Us. Shingles.

Shawn: So jake dimera married ava vitali right before he died?

Belle: Apparently. And he didn’t leave a will, so she inherited all of his dimera stock.

Shawn: Fun.

Belle: That’s not really the word that I would use. And needless to say, ej wasn’t pleased, so–

Shawn: Right. So, you know, how are things with you and ej?

Belle: Awkward, but cordial. It was the first time we’d seen each other since I ended things.

Shawn: I see.

Belle: He did ask if you and I were getting back together.

Shawn: And?

Belle: And I told him the truth, that I don’t know. But I do know that I love you, and, well, if it’s all right with you, I’d like to move home.

Jada: There was this weird tension when shawn introduced me to his wife.

Eric: Belle.

Jada: You know her?

Eric: Belle’s my sister. Shawn’s my brother-in-law. Unfortunately, they are separated.

Jada: Ah. So that’s what shawn meant when he said the marriage was complicated.

Eric: Yeah. You have no idea. But shawn, you know what? You’re gonna love working with him. He’s a good guy.

Jada: Yeah, he seems like it.

Eric: Well, now that you’ve got your work situation together, why don’t we work on helping your living situation?

Jada: Absolutely.

Eric: You want to see the room?

Jada: Oh, yes.

Eric: Good.

Jada: Business first, and then after that, we can get started with our lunch date?

Eric: Yeah, let me just grab the key behind the bar.

Jada: Okay.

Chloe: Nicole, hey!

Nicole: Oh, gosh!

Chloe: I’m so glad I ran into you. I’m sorry, did I scare you?

Nicole: No, it’s okay.

Chloe: What are you doing?

Nicole: Nothing. No, I was just fixing my makeup.

Chloe: Oh, well, you look fabulous to me.

Nicole: Thanks. So what’s up?

Chloe: Well, brady and i just had a run-in with guess-who. I left brady with kristen, but in the meantime, I need to send her the files to the merino project. Do you have the latest version?

Nicole: I do, right here in my laptop.

Chloe: Okay, great. Is there any way you can email them to me right now so I can go save brady from her?

Nicole: Sure. Yeah. Hey, you know what? Why don’t we go inside? I’ll pull up the files and get you all set.

Chloe: Oh, great. Thank you.

Nicole: Mm-hmm.

Chloe: Do you need any help?

Nicole: Oh, well, I got three legs at the moment. Ready to get rid of these things.

[Soft music playing]

Rafe: And when I saw nicole in eric’s arms, I kind of lost it. He had just rescued her from a life-threatening situation, and all I could think was “get your damn hands off of her.”

Gabi: But now you know.

Rafe: Yeah, well, to be honest, my jealousy didn’t end there. You know, because now I had to go after the guy who had just attacked nicole, and that’s when eric volunteered to take nicole to the hospital and make sure her ankle was checked out and– yeah, I did not like seeing them together like that. Yeah, so just– I mean, just please tell me I’m just being an insecure fool.

Gabi: Not necessarily.

Rolf: I thought you and i were on the same page, that we must do everything possible to revive stefano’s namesake.

Li: Yes, I was totally on board, at first. But since then, I’ve become personally involved with stefan’s widow.

Rolf: You and gabi hernandez?

Li: We’ve become pretty close over the past few months. And if she suddenly finds her long-lost love alive and well and strolling through the square, then she’ll go running back into his arms in an instant, and I’ll be left in the cold. I’m not about to let that happen.

Rolf: So? What are you suggesting?

Li: I need our patient to have an unexpected setback.

Rolf: Are you asking me to pull the plug on stefan?

Eric: All right, here we are. Like I said, it’s nothing too fancy, but the rent is reasonable. And there’s nothing better than waking up to the smell of bacon and coffee from the kitchen downstairs. You know what? I’ll even throw in the family discount.

Jada: You got a brady guarantee?

Eric: My name’s not on the sign for nothing.

Jada: So which room has your name on it?

Eric: I’m literally right down the hall. You can just holler if you need anything.

Jada: You don’t think that’ll be an issue? I mean, what if our date is a complete disaster?

Eric: We’re gonna be fine.

Jada: Okay, mr. Confident. Well, in that case, I have two questions.

Eric: Shoot.

Jada: One, can I change the artwork? It’s a little too holiday inn for me.

Eric: I painted those.

Jada: You did not.

Eric: No, I didn’T. Of course. Of course you can redecorate however you like. And the second question?

Jada: How soon can I move in?

[Uneasy music]

Chloe: You good?

Nicole: Yeah, thanks. I can’t believe this.

Chloe: I know. Kristen is being so unreasonable, and I don’t see any light at the end of this tunnel.

Nicole: Yeah, that’s awful too. I was talking about eric.

Chloe: Oh, what about him?

Nicole: Well, he’s on a date. That new detective, jada hunter.

Chloe: Oh, I was wondering who that was. So what’s the problem?

Nicole: Um, hello? They just went upstairs? I mean, they’re on their first date. They just went right past lunch and straight for dessert.

Chloe: So you think they’re having sex?

Nicole: Well, I doubt they’re playing checkers.

Chloe: Come on, it’s eric. He’s not the type of guy who’ll jump into bed with someone he just met.

Nicole: I mean, he did just get out of the priesthood.

Chloe: Okay, okay, say that you’re right, say they’re hooking up. What’s it to you? I mean, you are married to rafe, right?

Gabi: I’m not saying you have anything to worry about. I’m just saying it’s only natural to feel a little threatened by eric. I mean, nicole and eric were each other’s first loves, and obviously, they have a bond, a strong bond that could never be broken.

Rafe: Well, okay, great. Excuse me while I throw myself out that window.

Gabi: However, they had their shot at happily ever after, and it ended in divorce. Will told me they couldn’t make it work because they were too completely different people, and that has not changed.

Rafe: You know, I would just feel so much better if eric was still a priest and living halfway around the world.

Gabi: Excuse me, do not sell yourself short, cupid. You are a catch too. Okay, any woman would be lucky to have such a great guy like you. Nicole made a very smart choice. Don’t you forget that. Come here. Get over here.

Rafe: Okay.

Rolf: This is stefano dimera’s son, and I refuse to take his life, and I won’t allow you to do it either! I’m a man of science, but I have to resort to fisticuffs, huh, I will.

Li: Relax, rolf. You can put your dukes down. I’m no killer.

Rolf: But you said–

Li: I’m merely asking you to slow down stefan’s recovery. You can bring him back to life eventually, just not today. I need more time to strategize about how to deal with his return, both personally and professionally.

Rolf: What about kristen? I told her to expect stefan’s resurrection in a couple of hours.

Li: Well, science is tricky, especially that of the “mad” persuasion. Tell her you made a slight miscalculation.

Rolf: I’m not mad. And I never miscalculate.

Li: Look, I don’t care what you tell her. But until I say otherwise, stefan dimera remains on ice.

Brady: There is no us. See, that was easy. Conversation’s over.

Kristen: Whether you like it or not, brady, there will always be an us. We share a child. And I have waited long enough to see her. It’s time you bring her back from california.

Brady: She’s having a really good time in california with tate and theresa.

Kristen: Oh, wow, yeah, and knowing theresa, she probably has our daughter addicted to drugs by now.

Brady: Stop! That’s not fair.

Kristen: Oh, no, you wanna know what’s not fair? What’s not fair is that I am free, I’m finally free, and I still don’t get to see my daughter. Brady, I miss my little girl. And I know she misses me too.

Brady: Fine. Fine, I’ll bring her home. But I’m not about to start taking demands from you about her. She is our daughter, but I have full custody. Don’t forget that.

Kristen: How could I?

Brady: However, you’ve always been a good mother to her. I know that. So I may be willing to reexamine our custody arrangement under one condition, kristen.

Kristen: And what’s that?

Brady: I’ll give you shared custody, but if and only if you resign from basic black and you leave chloe and me the hell alone.

Shawn: You want to move back home?

Belle: Well, I know that you’re hurting and, well, I want to be there for you. And I thought, you know, we could work on our marriage. And just so you know, I’m not expecting things to just go back to the way they were. I thought, you know, I could sleep in claire’s room at first.

Shawn: So, yeah, I’m– separate rooms at first, but you’re gonna be home. And we’re gonna be under the same roof again, so–

Belle: I thought it’d be a good place to start. So what do you think?

Shawn: I think I’d like that very much.

Nicole: Just because I’m not married to eric anymore, I– look, I still care about him, okay? I don’t want to see him get hurt.

Chloe: You’re afraid he’s gonna throw out his back or something?

Nicole: Ha-ha. It’s not funny. You know what I mean.

Chloe: Oh, come on, he just met this woman. You think she’s gonna break his heart already?

Nicole: Or–I don’t know. He barely knows her, so…

Chloe: Oh, my god. You’re right. You know what? I think she’s probably a serial killer, and she’s looking to kill an ex-priest.

Nicole: You are not helping at all.

Chloe: Oh, there they are. So she didn’t kill him. That must mean that they were– well, it was pretty quick. Eric must be out of practice.

Nicole: Quiet. They’re coming over here.

Eric: Hi.

Nicole: Hi.

Chloe: Hey, hi. Eric, hey, how are you?

Eric: Good, chloe. It’s nice to see you.

Chloe: Nice to see you. Who’s your friend?

Eric: This is jada hunter. This is chloe lane. She’s dating my brother.

Jada: Oh.

Chloe: Nice to meet you, jada.

Jada: You too.

Chloe: Haven’t I seen you around the salem inn?

Jada: Yes, I’ve been staying there since I got to town.

Eric: Yeah, she’ll be renting a room upstairs. I just finished giving her the tour.

Chloe: Oh. That’s nice. Well, it was nice to meet you.

Jada: Likewise. And I hope I can see you somewhere besides the salem inn.

Chloe: I’m sure we will.

Eric: Good to see you all. We’ll be going.

Chloe: Okay, goodbye, guys.

Nicole: Bye.

Chloe: She seems lovely, for a serial killer. Oh, come on. At least they weren’t having sex.

Nicole: Oh, no, they’re just living together.

Rolf: Exactly how long do you want me to keep him sedated?

Li: We’ll have to play it by ear for now. Things at dimera have been a little chaotic over the past few years, to say the least. I want to make sure stefan’s return has the desired impact. It’s supposed to be good for the company, and me. Not to mention my relationship with gabi.

Rolf: I never liked that woman.

Li: I’m aware. You nearly got her thrown in prison a few years ago, for purposefully giving her the wrong drug for jake.

Rolf: I did enjoy playing mind games with that annoying shrew.

Li: Easy, dr. Rolf.

Rolf: Yes, of course, sir. But I can’t honestly can’t comprehend what stefan saw in her. She wasn’t right for him.

Li: On that, we agree. All the more reason to go along with my plan. After I solidify my relationship with gabi, she’ll want nothing to do with stefan. Sound good?

Rolf: Keeping stefan sedated will give him more time to heal. That I have no problem with. However, I’m not the one pushing for immediacy. And I don’t like the idea of lying to kristen. To be perfectly frank, that woman scares me.

Li: Yes. She’s a wild card. But I can assure you, rolf, I’m the one you should be afraid of.

Kristen: Wow. You’re seriously using our daughter as leverage against me?

Brady: You forced my hand. Kristen, I don’t want to be negotiating with you like this, but you’re the one that decided to insinuate yourself into my workplace.

Kristen: Yeah, well, a woman’s got to make a living.

Brady: Oh, stop. All you want to do is torment chloe and me. And I have a news flash for you. I’m not gonna sit around and let you harass the woman that I happen to love. So if you want custody of your daughter, you’ll quit!

Kristen: Wow, I have to admit, I’m impressed, brady. I mean, that was a gutsy move. Something that I would do. I have to respect that.

Brady: Hmm. So we have a deal, right?

Kristen: No. You can take your deal and shove it. We women are in the know about everything.

Shawn: I’m–I’m really happy that you’re coming back home, belle. And I think you’re right. I think it’s best that we– you know, we take this slowly.

Belle: Well, I’m glad we’re on the same page. There is one other thing I want to say just to clear the air–

Shawn: No, you don’t have to do–

Belle: Shawn, listen. For months, I thought that jan’s baby was the source of all our problems, and I’ll admit that there were times that I wished that he wasn’t a part of our lives, but I never, ever wanted you to lose him like that.

Shawn: Thank you. I appreciate that.

[Tender music]

[Knock at door]

Rafe: Yeah, come in.

Nicole: Hi.

Rafe: Oh, well, this is a nice surprise. What are you doing here?

Nicole: Well, I was missing my husband, and I thought I’d hobble over here and say hi.

Rafe: Well, I’m glad you did. Hey. Can I take these?

Nicole: Well, sure.

Rafe: I got you. There we go.

Nicole: Thank you, honey.

Rafe: Aww.

Nicole: Okay.

Rafe: There we go. Hi.

Nicole: Hi. Oh, by the way, I met gabi’s new man, li shin. You work with him, don’t you?

Nicole: Yes, he’s attended a few basic black meetings. Seems like a good guy.

Rafe: Yeah. So I hope you’re not upset, but I did invite them over for dinner sometime soon.

Nicole: Yeah, okay, sounds good.

Rafe: Great. Good, good. So how’s your morning going?

Nicole: It’s pretty good. Yeah. Nothing unusual.

Jada: It’s nice you and your ex-wife get along so well. When me and my ex are together, it’s still major drama.

Eric: So you were married?

Jada: For several years.

Eric: May I ask what happened?

Jada: We were both very career-driven people, and we just saw each other less and less. When we did find time to be together, all we did was argue. If I was hot, he was cold. If I wanted a dog, he wanted a cat.

Eric: I’m more of a dog person, myself.

Jada: I knew I liked you.

Brady: I can’t believe that you were willing to give up custody of your daughter out of sheer pettiness.

Kristen: Who says I’m willing to give up custody? See, now that I’ve got a full pardon from the governor, I intended to open up our current arrangement anyway. See, any decent lawyer should be able to get me shared custody now that my record is wiped clean.

Brady: I will fight it.

Kristen: You’ll lose. So, no, brady, I’m not quitting my job, especially now that I need to provide for rachel.

Brady: Okay. Then I guess I’ll see you in court.

Kristen: I’m looking forward to it. Let me know when rachel’s back in town.

[Tense music]

This is the sound of better breathing.

Belle: If it’s all right with you, I’ll bring my things over after work.

Shawn: Yeah, that works for me. I’ll make dinner. You know, I can grill some steaks.

Belle: Oh, yes, let’s sit outside and eat. I missed my garden.

Shawn: Perfect.

Belle: Good. I’ll see you tonight.

[Tender music]

Eric: I would like to propose a toast. To better artwork and warmer temperatures and furry little friends. Oh, last but not least, new beginnings.

Jada: I’ll drink to that.

[Soft woodwind music]

Chloe: Hey. So how did things go with kristen?

Brady: I tried to get her to quit. She didn’t go for it.

Chloe: Things are never gonna be easy with her, are they?

Brady: I may’ve lost this round, but I promise you, I’m never going to let her come between us. Okay?

Kristen: Are you ready to wake stefan up?

Rolf: Actually, I’ve been monitoring his vitals, and the numbers aren’t what I would like them to be. I think we should wait.

Kristen: What? For how long?

Rolf: That’s hard to say. Could be a while.

Kristen: I don’t like what I’m hearing, rolf.

Rolf: Don’t worry, this phoenix will still rise from the ashes, but only when the time is right.

[Eerie music]

Li: Someone’s making herself at home.

Gabi: You like it?

Li: I love it. I’m glad I got to meet your brother today. Sorry I had to run.

Gabi: Oh, he understood. But he’s very serious about having dinner with him and his wife.

Li: Hmm. Are you okay taking that step? Me breaking bread with your family?

Gabi: Why wouldn’t I be?

Li: Well, I’ve told you I’m all in, but I wasn’t sure if you were.

Gabi: Actually, I’ve given this a lot of thought, and I want to see where this relationship can go.

Li: You have no idea how happy I am to hear that.
